:00:00. > :00:08.This is a BBC News special programme on the third US Presidential debate.

:00:09. > :00:14.The debate in Las Vegas continued the campaign's bitter tone,

:00:15. > :00:17.with less than three weeks to go before Election Day.

:00:18. > :00:21.The candidates began by addressing issues such as jobs,

:00:22. > :00:27.gun control and abortion rights, but soon started trading insults.

:00:28. > :00:40.When it came to relations with the Russian President. From everything I

:00:41. > :00:42.see... He would rather have a puppet as President of the United States.

:00:43. > :00:50.In exchanges marked by shouting and interruption...

:00:51. > :00:53.Each questioned the other's fitness to stand for office.

:00:54. > :00:55.She should have never been allowed to stand

:00:56. > :01:06.My social security contribution will go up, as will his,

:01:07. > :01:09.assuming he cannot figure out how to get out of it.

:01:10. > :01:12.But the key moment came when Mr Trump refused to commit

:01:13. > :01:14.to accepting the election result if he loses.

:01:15. > :01:23.What I've seen is so bad. First of all, the media is so dishonest and

:01:24. > :01:28.so corrupt, I think the voters are seeing through it, I think they can

:01:29. > :01:32.see through it. We will find out on November the 8th. Every time Donald

:01:33. > :01:33.thinks things are going in his direction, he claims whatever it it

:01:34. > :01:47.is rigged against him. Good morning and welcome to a BBC

:01:48. > :01:51.News Special Programme about the US There are just 18 days to go before

:01:52. > :02:03.Americans go to the polls, after one of the most divisive US presidential

:02:04. > :02:09.campaigns in history. The candidates traded insults

:02:10. > :02:14.and they were openly hostile. Last night, my colleague Katty Kay

:02:15. > :02:16.was watching the debate Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump

:02:17. > :02:19.have had their final debate of this long,

:02:20. > :02:21.contentious election campaign. It will have been seen by millions

:02:22. > :02:23.of American viewers, as they try to make up their minds

:02:24. > :02:26.who to vote for. The two candidates came

:02:27. > :02:29.onto the stage, they did not shake hands, breaking with tradition

:02:30. > :02:31.here in debate format. The debate was moderated

:02:32. > :02:37.by Fox News's Chris Wallace. Secretary Clinton,

:02:38. > :02:41.Mr Trump, welcome. The first topic

:02:42. > :02:46.is the Supreme Court. You both talked briefly

:02:47. > :02:49.about the Court in the last debate, but I want to drill down on this

:02:50. > :02:52.because the next President will almost certainly have at least

:02:53. > :02:55.one appointment and likely, or possibly, two or three

:02:56. > :02:57.appointments, which means that you will in effect determine

:02:58. > :02:59.the balance of the Court for what could be the next

:03:00. > :03:04.quarter of a century. First of all, where do

:03:05. > :03:06.you want to see the Court And secondly, what's your view

:03:07. > :03:10.on how the Constitution Do the Founders' words mean

:03:11. > :03:18.what they say, or is it a living document, to be applied flexibly,

:03:19. > :03:24.according to changing circumstances? In this segment, Secretary

:03:25. > :03:26.Clinton, you go first. You know, I think when we talk

:03:27. > :03:36.about the Supreme Court, it really raises the central

:03:37. > :03:38.issue in this election. Namely, what kind of country

:03:39. > :03:42.are we are going to be? What kind of opportunities

:03:43. > :03:45.will we provide for our citizens? What kind of rights

:03:46. > :03:48.will Americans have? And I feel strongly

:03:49. > :03:52.that the Supreme Court needs to stand on the side of the American

:03:53. > :03:55.people, not on the side of the powerful corporations

:03:56. > :04:01.and the wealthy. For me, that means that we need

:04:02. > :04:04.a Supreme Court that will stand up On behalf of the rights

:04:05. > :04:11.of the LGBT community. That will stand up and say no

:04:12. > :04:16.to Citizens United, a decision that has undermined the election system

:04:17. > :04:20.in our country because of the way it permits dark, unaccountable money

:04:21. > :04:28.to come into our electoral system. I have major disagreements

:04:29. > :04:30.with my opponent about these issues and others that will be

:04:31. > :04:36.before the Supreme Court. But I feel that at this point

:04:37. > :04:41.in our country's history, it is important that we not reverse

:04:42. > :04:48.marriage equality, that we not reverse Roe v.

:04:49. > :04:51.Wade, that we stand up we stand up for the rights

:04:52. > :04:56.of people in the workplace, that we stand up and basically say,

:04:57. > :04:59.the Supreme Court should And the kind of people that

:05:00. > :05:04.I would be looking to nominate to the Court would be

:05:05. > :05:09.in the great tradition Standing up on behalf

:05:10. > :05:14.of our rights as Americans. And I look forward to

:05:15. > :05:18.having that opportunity. I would hope that the Senate

:05:19. > :05:21.would do its job and confirm the nominee that President Obama has

:05:22. > :05:25.sent to them. That's the way the Constitution

:05:26. > :05:28.fundamentally should operate. The President nominates and then

:05:29. > :05:31.the Senate advises and consents, or not, but they go

:05:32. > :05:34.forward with the process. Mr Trump, same question,

:05:35. > :05:40.where do you want to see the Court take the country and how do

:05:41. > :05:43.you believe the Constitution Well, first of all, it's great to be

:05:44. > :05:47.with you and thank you, everybody. The Supreme Court, it's

:05:48. > :05:49.what it's all about. It's just so imperative

:05:50. > :05:58.that we have the right Justices. Something happened recently

:05:59. > :05:59.where Justice Ginsburg made some very, very inappropriate

:06:00. > :06:02.statements towards me and towards a tremendous

:06:03. > :06:07.number of people. Many, many millions

:06:08. > :06:11.of people that I represent, But these were statements that

:06:12. > :06:17.should never, ever have been made. We need a Supreme Court that,

:06:18. > :06:20.in my opinion, is going to uphold the Second Amendment

:06:21. > :06:21.and all amendments, Which is under absolute siege,

:06:22. > :06:30.I believe, if my opponent should win this race,

:06:31. > :06:34.which I truly don't think will happen, we will

:06:35. > :06:36.have a Second Amendment which will be a very,

:06:37. > :06:39.very small replica of But I feel that it's absolutely

:06:40. > :06:45.important that we uphold I feel that the Justices that I am

:06:46. > :06:52.going to appoint - and I've named 20 of them -

:06:53. > :06:55.the Justices that I'm going to appoint will be pro-life,

:06:56. > :06:58.they will have a conservative bent, they will be protecting

:06:59. > :07:01.the Second Amendment, they are great scholars

:07:02. > :07:04.in all cases, and they are people They will interpret the Constitution

:07:05. > :07:15.the way the Founders wanted it interpreted and I believe that's

:07:16. > :07:22.very, very important. I don't think we should have

:07:23. > :07:24.Justices appointed that decide It's all about the

:07:25. > :07:30.Constitution of... And so important, the Constitution

:07:31. > :07:34.the way it was meant to be. And those are the people that

:07:35. > :07:39.I will appoint. But I want to ask you specifically -

:07:40. > :07:44.do you want the Court, including the Justices that

:07:45. > :07:47.you will name, to overturn Roe v. Wade, which includes -

:07:48. > :07:49.in fact, states - Well, if that would happen,

:07:50. > :07:55.because I am pro-life and I will be appointing pro-life judges,

:07:56. > :07:57.I would think that that would go But I'm asking you specifically,

:07:58. > :08:01.would you like to... If they overturned it,

:08:02. > :08:05.it'll go back to the States. But what I'm asking you, sir, is, do

:08:06. > :08:08.you want to see the Court overturn? You just said you want to see

:08:09. > :08:11.the Court protect the Second Amendment, do you want to see

:08:12. > :08:14.the Court overturn Roe v. Well, if we put another two

:08:15. > :08:17.or perhaps three Justices on, that's really what's

:08:18. > :08:20.going to happen, that will happen. And that'll happen automatically,

:08:21. > :08:22.in my opinion, because I am putting I will say this, it will go back

:08:23. > :08:27.to the states and the states Well, I strongly support Roe v.

:08:28. > :08:35.Wade, which guarantees to make the most intimate,

:08:36. > :08:40.most difficult - in many cases - decisions about her health care that

:08:41. > :08:45.one can imagine. And in this case, it's

:08:46. > :08:48.not only about Roe v. Wade, it is about what's happening

:08:49. > :08:51.right now in America. So many states are putting very

:08:52. > :08:53.stringent regulations on women that block them

:08:54. > :09:02.from exercising that choice. To the extent that they are

:09:03. > :09:04.defunding Planned Parenthood, which of course provides all kinds

:09:05. > :09:07.of cancer screenings and other Donald has said he's in favour

:09:08. > :09:14.of defunding Planned Parenthood. He even supported shutting

:09:15. > :09:16.the government down to defund I will defend

:09:17. > :09:23.Planned Parenthood. I will defend

:09:24. > :09:25.Roe v. Wade. And I will defend women's

:09:26. > :09:27.rights to make their own And we have come too far to have

:09:28. > :09:33.that turned back now. Indeed, he said women should be

:09:34. > :09:36.punished, that there should be some form of punishment for women

:09:37. > :09:38.who obtain abortions, and I could just not be more opposed

:09:39. > :09:44.to that kind of thinking. I'm going to give you a chance

:09:45. > :09:48.to respond, but I want to ask you, Secretary Clinton, I want to explore

:09:49. > :09:51.how far you believe the right You have been quoted

:09:52. > :09:54.as saying that the foetus has You also voted against a ban

:09:55. > :10:03.on late-term, partial Because Roe v.

:10:04. > :10:11.Wade very clearly sets out that there can be

:10:12. > :10:14.regulations on abortion, so long as the life

:10:15. > :10:16.and the health of the mother And when I voted as a Senator,

:10:17. > :10:23.I did not think that The kinds of cases that fall

:10:24. > :10:29.at the end of pregnancy are often the most heartbreaking,

:10:30. > :10:31.painful decisions I have met with women who,

:10:32. > :10:36.towards the end of their pregnancy, get the worst news

:10:37. > :10:38.that one could get - that their health is in jeopardy

:10:39. > :10:43.if they continue to carry to term. Or that something terrible has

:10:44. > :10:46.happened, or just been discovered I do not think the United States

:10:47. > :10:52.Government should be stepping in and making those most

:10:53. > :10:59.personal of decisions. So you can regulate if you are doing

:11:00. > :11:02.so with the life and the health And particularly on this

:11:03. > :11:13.issue of late-term, If you go with what

:11:14. > :11:23.Hillary is saying. In the ninth month, you can take

:11:24. > :11:27.the baby and rip the baby out of the womb of the mother,

:11:28. > :11:30.just prior to the birth of the baby. Now, you can say that that's OK

:11:31. > :11:33.and Hillary can say that that's OK, Because based on what she's saying

:11:34. > :11:37.and based on where's she's going and where she's been,

:11:38. > :11:40.you can take the baby and rip the baby out of the womb -

:11:41. > :11:43.in the ninth month, on the final day -

:11:44. > :11:45.and that's not acceptable. Well, that is not what happens

:11:46. > :11:48.in these cases, and using that kind of scare rhetoric is just

:11:49. > :11:51.terribly unfortunate. You should meet with some

:11:52. > :11:54.of the women that I've met with. Women I've known over the course

:11:55. > :11:56.of my life. This is one of the worst possible

:11:57. > :11:59.choices that any woman And I do not believe the government

:12:00. > :12:05.should be making it. You know, I've had the great honour

:12:06. > :12:08.of travelling across the world I've been to countries

:12:09. > :12:11.where governments either force women to have abortions,

:12:12. > :12:14.like they used to do in China, or forced women to bear children,

:12:15. > :12:18.like they used to do in Romania. And I can tell you the government

:12:19. > :12:22.has no business in the decisions that women make with their families,

:12:23. > :12:24.in accordance with their faith, with medical advice,

:12:25. > :12:31.and I will stand up for that right. All right, just briefly,

:12:32. > :12:36.I'm going to move on... Honestly, nobody has business doing

:12:37. > :12:40.what I just said, doing that, as late as one or two or three

:12:41. > :12:43.or four days prior to birth. All right, let's move

:12:44. > :12:55.on to the subject of immigration. And there is almost no issue that

:12:56. > :12:59.separates the two of you more Actually, there are a lot of issues

:13:00. > :13:03.that separate the two of you! Secretary Clinton, you have offered

:13:04. > :13:08.no specific plan for how you want Mr Trump, you are calling

:13:09. > :13:11.for major deportations. Secretary Clinton, you say that

:13:12. > :13:13.within your first 100 days as President, you are going to offer

:13:14. > :13:16.a package that includes The question really

:13:17. > :13:19.is, why are you right Mr Trump, you go first

:13:20. > :13:22.on this segment. Well, first of all,

:13:23. > :13:25.she wants to give amnesty, And very unfair to all

:13:26. > :13:30.of the people that wait in line In the audience tonight,

:13:31. > :13:35.we have four mothers of... I mean, these are unbelievable

:13:36. > :13:38.people that I've gotten to know over a period of years whose

:13:39. > :13:43.children have been killed, brutally killed by people that came

:13:44. > :13:46.into the country illegally. You have thousands of mothers

:13:47. > :13:48.and fathers and relatives Drugs are pouring in

:13:49. > :13:54.through the border. We have no country if we have no

:13:55. > :13:56.border. As you know, the Border

:13:57. > :14:18.Patrol Agency, plus ICE More than they've ever

:14:19. > :14:21.endorsed a candidate. But they know what's going on,

:14:22. > :14:25.they know it better than anybody. They want strong borders, they feel

:14:26. > :14:28.we have to have strong borders. I was up in New Hampshire

:14:29. > :14:30.the other day. The biggest complaint they have -

:14:31. > :14:32.with all the problems going on in the world,

:14:33. > :14:35.many of the problems caused by Hillary Clinton

:14:36. > :14:37.and by Barack Obama - all of the problems,

:14:38. > :14:39.the single biggest problem is heroin that pours

:14:40. > :14:41.across our Southern borders. Just pouring, and

:14:42. > :14:42.destroying their youth. It's poisoning the blood

:14:43. > :14:44.of their youth and plenty We have to keep the drugs

:14:45. > :14:49.out of our country. Right now, we're getting the drugs,

:14:50. > :14:51.they're getting the cash. We need strong borders,

:14:52. > :14:53.we need absolute... The Border Patrol, ICE,

:14:54. > :14:59.they all want the wall. We stop the drugs, we shore

:15:00. > :15:01.up the border. One of my first acts will be to get

:15:02. > :15:04.all of the drug lords, We have some bad, bad people in this

:15:05. > :15:09.country that have to go out. And once the border is secured,

:15:10. > :15:20.at a later date, we'll make But we have some bad

:15:21. > :15:24.hombres here and we're The same question to you,

:15:25. > :15:28.Secretary Clinton. Basically, why are you right

:15:29. > :15:30.and Mr Trump is wrong? Well, as he was talking,

:15:31. > :15:33.I was thinking about a young girl I met here in Las Vegas, Carla,

:15:34. > :15:36.who was very worried that her parents might be deported

:15:37. > :15:38.because she was born in this They work hard, they do everything

:15:39. > :15:46.they can to give her a good life. And you're right, I don't

:15:47. > :15:48.want to rip families apart. I don't want to be sending

:15:49. > :15:51.parents away from children. I don't want to see the deportation

:15:52. > :15:53.force that Donald has talked We have 11 million

:15:54. > :15:59.undocumented people. They have four million

:16:00. > :16:01.American citizen children. He said as recently as a few weeks

:16:02. > :16:08.ago in Phoenix that every undocumented person would be

:16:09. > :16:09.subject to deportation. It means you would have

:16:10. > :16:15.to have a massive law enforcement presence,

:16:16. > :16:18.where law enforcement officers would be going school

:16:19. > :16:20.to school, home to home, business to business,

:16:21. > :16:22.rounding up people And we would then have to put them

:16:23. > :16:28.on trains, on buses, I think that is an idea that is not

:16:29. > :16:35.in keeping with who I think it's an idea that

:16:36. > :16:40.would rip our country apart. I have been a fan of border

:16:41. > :16:43.security for years. I voted for border security

:16:44. > :16:45.in the United States Senate. And my comprehensive immigration

:16:46. > :16:47.reform plan of course But I want to put our resources

:16:48. > :16:54.where I think they are most needed, Anybody who should be deported,

:16:55. > :17:05.we should deport them. When it comes to the wall that

:17:06. > :17:07.Donald talks about building, he went to Mexico, he had a meeting

:17:08. > :17:10.with the Mexican president, didn't even raise it,

:17:11. > :17:13.he choked and then got into a Twitter war because

:17:14. > :17:15.the Mexican president said, So I think we are both a nation

:17:16. > :17:26.of immigrants and we are a nation of laws and we can act accordingly

:17:27. > :17:29.and that is why I'm introducing comprehensive immigration reform

:17:30. > :17:31.within the first hundred days First of all I had a very good

:17:32. > :17:39.meeting with the President of Mexico, very nice man,

:17:40. > :17:43.we will be doing very much better with Mexico on trade

:17:44. > :17:46.deals, believe me. The Nafta deal signed by her husband

:17:47. > :17:49.is one of the worst deals ever made of any kind,

:17:50. > :17:52.signed by anybody, it's a disaster. Hillary Clinton fought for the wall

:17:53. > :18:00.in 2006, or thereabouts. Now, she never gets anything done

:18:01. > :18:03.so naturally the wall was not built, I would like to hear from Secretary

:18:04. > :18:15.Clinton. I voted for border

:18:16. > :18:17.security and... And there are some limited places

:18:18. > :18:24.where that was appropriate and there is also necessarily

:18:25. > :18:27.going to be new technology and how But it is clear, when you look

:18:28. > :18:32.at what Donald has been proposing, he started his campaign bashing

:18:33. > :18:35.immigrants, calling Mexican immigrants rapists and criminals

:18:36. > :18:40.and drug dealers, that he has a very different view of what we should do

:18:41. > :18:46.to deal with immigrants. What I am also arguing is that

:18:47. > :18:51.bringing undocumented immigrants out from the shadows,

:18:52. > :18:56.putting them into the formal economy, will be good because then

:18:57. > :18:58.employers cannot exploit them And Donald knows a lot about this,

:18:59. > :19:02.he used undocumented labour He underpaid undocumented workers

:19:03. > :19:08.and when they complained, he basically said what a lot

:19:09. > :19:11.of employers do - you complain, I want to get everybody out

:19:12. > :19:16.of the shadows, get the economy working and not let employers

:19:17. > :19:19.like Donald exploit undocumented workers which hurts

:19:20. > :19:21.them but also hurts President Obama has moved

:19:22. > :19:26.millions of people out, nobody knows about it,

:19:27. > :19:29.nobody talks about it, but under Obama millions of people

:19:30. > :19:32.have been moved out of this country, She doesn't want to say that

:19:33. > :19:36.but that is what has happened and that is what has

:19:37. > :19:38.happened big league. As far as moving these people out,

:19:39. > :19:41.we either have a Now, you can come back

:19:42. > :19:50.in and you can become a citizen We have millions of people that did

:19:51. > :19:55.it the right way, they are online We are going to speed up

:19:56. > :19:58.the process big league But they are online and they are

:19:59. > :20:02.waiting to become citizens. Very unfair that somebody runs

:20:03. > :20:03.across the border, Under her plan you have open

:20:04. > :20:07.borders, you would have a disaster on trade and you will have

:20:08. > :20:10.a disaster on your open borders. What she doesn't say is that

:20:11. > :20:13.President Obama has deported millions and millions of people

:20:14. > :20:19.just that way. We will not have open borders,

:20:20. > :20:24.that is a rank mischaracterisation. We will have secure borders

:20:25. > :20:28.but we will also have reform. Ronald Reagan was the last president

:20:29. > :20:35.to sign immigration reform and George W Bush supported

:20:36. > :20:38.it as well. Secretary Clinton, I want to clear

:20:39. > :20:42.up your position on this issue because, in a speech you gave

:20:43. > :20:45.to a Brazilian bank for which you were paid $225,000,

:20:46. > :20:48.we have learned from WikiLeaks, "My dream is a hemispheric common

:20:49. > :20:54.market with open trade If you went on to read

:20:55. > :21:06.the rest of the sentence, We trade more energy

:21:07. > :21:13.with our neighbours than we trade with the rest of the world combined

:21:14. > :21:17.and I do want us to have an electric grid, an energy system

:21:18. > :21:20.that crosses borders. I think that would be

:21:21. > :21:25.a great benefit to us. But you are very clearly quoting

:21:26. > :21:28.from WikiLeaks and what is really important about WikiLeaks

:21:29. > :21:30.is that the Russian government has engaged in espionage

:21:31. > :21:36.against Americans. They have hacked American websites,

:21:37. > :21:41.American accounts of private Then they have given that

:21:42. > :21:47.information to WikiLeaks for the purpose of putting it

:21:48. > :21:51.on the Internet. This has come from the highest

:21:52. > :21:56.levels of the Russian government, clearly from Putin himself,

:21:57. > :21:58.in an effort, as 17 of our intelligence

:21:59. > :22:00.agencies have confirmed, So I actually think the most

:22:01. > :22:08.important question of this evening, Chris, is finally will Donald Trump

:22:09. > :22:13.admit and condemn that the Russians are doing this and make it clear

:22:14. > :22:17.that he will not have the help of Putin in this election,

:22:18. > :22:20.that he rejects Russian espionage against Americans,

:22:21. > :22:23.which he actually Those are the questions

:22:24. > :22:30.we need answering. We have never had anything

:22:31. > :22:32.like this happen in any That was a great pivot off the fact

:22:33. > :22:39.that she wants open borders, OK. Hold on, folks, because this

:22:40. > :22:44.is going to end up Let's try to keep it

:22:45. > :22:48.quiet for the candidates Just to finish on the borders,

:22:49. > :22:53.she wants open borders, people are going to pour

:22:54. > :22:55.into our country, people She wants 550% more people

:22:56. > :23:02.than Barack Obama and he has thousands and thousands of people,

:23:03. > :23:05.they have no idea where And you see, we are going

:23:06. > :23:09.to stop radical Islamic She won't even mention the words

:23:10. > :23:15.and neither will President Obama. So I just want to tell you,

:23:16. > :23:18.she wants open borders. I don't know Putin, he said nice

:23:19. > :23:22.things about me. If we got along well,

:23:23. > :23:24.that would be good. If Russia and the United States got

:23:25. > :23:27.along well and went after Isis, He has no respect for her,

:23:28. > :23:34.he has no respect for our president and I'll tell you what,

:23:35. > :23:39.we are in very serious trouble. Because we have a country

:23:40. > :23:41.with tremendous numbers of nuclear warheads, 1800 by the way,

:23:42. > :23:44.where they expanded and we didn't. 1800 nuclear warheads

:23:45. > :23:50.and she is playing chicken. Look, Putin, from everything I say,

:23:51. > :23:59.has no respect for this person. Well that's because he would rather

:24:00. > :24:01.have a puppet as president That the Russians have

:24:02. > :24:11.engaged in cyber attacks against the United States

:24:12. > :24:14.of America, that you encouraged espionage against our people,

:24:15. > :24:17.that you are willing to spout the Putin line,

:24:18. > :24:20.sign up for his wish list, break up Nato, do whatever he wants

:24:21. > :24:26.to do, and that you continue to get help from him because he has a very

:24:27. > :24:32.clear favourite in this race. So I think that this is such

:24:33. > :24:36.an unprecedented situation, we have never had a foreign

:24:37. > :24:38.government trying to We have 17, 17 intelligence

:24:39. > :24:48.agencies, civilian and military, who all concluded that these

:24:49. > :24:52.espionage attacks, these cyber attacks come from the highest levels

:24:53. > :24:55.of the Kremlin and they are designed I find it deeply

:24:56. > :25:03.disturbing and I think... She has no idea whether it's Russia,

:25:04. > :25:06.China or anybody else. He would rather believe

:25:07. > :25:21.Vladimir Putin than the military and civilian intelligence

:25:22. > :25:22.professionals who are sworn She doesn't like Putin because Putin

:25:23. > :25:30.has outsmarted her at every step Putin has outsmarted her in Syria,

:25:31. > :25:38.every step of the way. And I would like to ask

:25:39. > :25:45.you this direct question. The top national security officials

:25:46. > :25:47.of this country do believe that Even if you don't know for sure

:25:48. > :25:54.whether they are, do you condemn any interference by Russia

:25:55. > :25:56.in the American election? I don't know Putin, I never met

:25:57. > :26:07.Putin, this is not my best friend. But if the United States got along

:26:08. > :26:11.with Russia, it wouldn't be so bad. Let me tell you, Putin has

:26:12. > :26:21.outsmarted her and Obama at every single step of the way,

:26:22. > :26:24.whether it is Syria, Take a look at the

:26:25. > :26:27.start-up they signed. The Russians have said,

:26:28. > :26:29.according to many, many reports, I can't believe

:26:30. > :26:31.they allowed us to do this. She has been outsmarted by Putin

:26:32. > :26:37.and all you have to do We have spent $6 trillion, they have

:26:38. > :26:42.taken over the Middle East. She has been outsmarted

:26:43. > :26:44.and outplayed worse than anybody I have ever seen in any

:26:45. > :26:48.government whatsoever. We are a long way away

:26:49. > :26:51.from immigration but I'm going to let you finish this

:26:52. > :26:55.topic, 45 seconds. I find it ironic that he is

:26:56. > :27:04.raising nuclear weapons. This is a person who has been very

:27:05. > :27:07.cavalier, even casual, He has advocated more

:27:08. > :27:10.countries getting them - He has said, if we have them,

:27:11. > :27:16.why don't we use them, The bottom line on nuclear weapons

:27:17. > :27:22.is that when the president gives There is about four minutes

:27:23. > :27:29.between the order being given and the people responsible for

:27:30. > :27:37.launching nuclear weapons to do so. And that is why ten people who have

:27:38. > :27:40.had that awesome responsibility have come out and, in an unprecedented

:27:41. > :27:43.way, they said that they would not trust Donald Trump with the nuclear

:27:44. > :27:46.codes or to have his finger I have 200 generals and admirals, 21

:27:47. > :27:54.endorsing me, 21 Congressional Medal As far as Japan and other countries,

:27:55. > :28:02.we are being ripped off by everybody, we are defending other

:28:03. > :28:05.countries, we are spending They have the bargain

:28:06. > :28:09.of the century. All I said is that we have

:28:10. > :28:12.to renegotiate these agreements because our country cannot afford

:28:13. > :28:16.to defend Saudi Arabia, Japan, Germany, South Korea

:28:17. > :28:19.and many other places. She took that as saying

:28:20. > :28:24.nuclear weapons. Look, she has been proven to be

:28:25. > :28:28.a liar on so many different ways. There's no quote, you're not

:28:29. > :28:39.going to find a quote from me. Nuclear competition in Asia,

:28:40. > :28:41.you said, go ahead, The United States has kept the peace

:28:42. > :28:55.through our alliances. Donald wants to tear

:28:56. > :28:57.up our alliances. I think it makes the world safer

:28:58. > :29:00.and frankly it makes I would work with our allies

:29:01. > :29:06.in Asia, in Europe, That is the only way

:29:07. > :29:10.we are going to get peace. We are going to move

:29:11. > :29:12.on to the next topic. Mr Trump, at the last debate,

:29:13. > :29:15.you said your talk about grabbing And that you had never

:29:16. > :29:21.actually done it. And since then, as we all know,

:29:22. > :29:24.nine women have come forward and said that you either

:29:25. > :29:27.groped them or kissed them Why would so many different women

:29:28. > :29:33.from so many different circumstances over so many different years,

:29:34. > :29:36.why would they all in this last couple of weeks make up,

:29:37. > :29:39.you deny this, why would they make And since this is a question

:29:40. > :29:43.for both of you, Secretary Clinton, Mr Trump says what your husband did,

:29:44. > :29:46.and you defend it, was even worse. First of all, those stories have

:29:47. > :29:57.been largely debunked. Those people, I don't

:29:58. > :30:02.know those people. I have a feeling how they came,

:30:03. > :30:05.I believed it was her campaign that did it, just like,

:30:06. > :30:08.if you look at what came out today, the clips, where I was wondering

:30:09. > :30:11.what happened with my rally in Chicago and other rallies

:30:12. > :30:17.where we had such violence. She is the one, and Obama,

:30:18. > :30:22.that caused the violence. They paid them $1500

:30:23. > :30:27.and they are on tape saying, be violent, cause

:30:28. > :30:29.fights, do bad things. I would say the only way,

:30:30. > :30:31.because those stories are all totally false,

:30:32. > :30:33.I have to say that. And I didn't even apologise to my

:30:34. > :30:36.wife, who is sitting right here, I didn't know any of these women,

:30:37. > :30:42.I didn't see any of these women. These women, the woman on the plane,

:30:43. > :30:45.I think they want either fame Because what I saw, what they did -

:30:46. > :31:02.which is a criminal where they are telling people to go

:31:03. > :31:06.out and start fistfights and start violence, I will tell you what,

:31:07. > :31:09.in particular in Chicago, people were hurt and people

:31:10. > :31:12.could have been killed in that riot. And that was now all on tape,

:31:13. > :31:14.started by her. I believe, Chris, that she got these

:31:15. > :31:17.people to step forward. If it wasn't, they get

:31:18. > :31:19.their ten minutes of fame. But it was all fiction,

:31:20. > :31:22.it was lies and it was fiction. At the last debate, we heard Donald

:31:23. > :31:26.talking about what he did to women. And after that, a number

:31:27. > :31:29.of women have come forward, saying that is exactly

:31:30. > :31:31.what he did to them. Well, he held a number of big

:31:32. > :31:38.rallies, where he said that he could not possibly have done

:31:39. > :31:41.those things to those women because they were not

:31:42. > :31:45.attractive enough... He went on to say, look at her,

:31:46. > :32:04.I don't think so, He said, that wouldn't

:32:05. > :32:08.be my first choice. He attacked the woman

:32:09. > :32:13.reporter writing the story, calling her 'disgusting',

:32:14. > :32:16.as he has called a number of women Donald thinks belittling women

:32:17. > :32:20.makes him bigger. He goes after their dignity,

:32:21. > :32:23.their self-worth, and I don't think there is a woman anywhere who does

:32:24. > :32:41.not know what that feels like. So we now know who Donald is and how

:32:42. > :32:46.he acts towards women. I think it's really up to all of us

:32:47. > :32:51.to demonstrate who we are, and who our country is,

:32:52. > :32:54.and to stand up and be very clear about what we expect

:32:55. > :32:55.from our next President, how we want to bring our country

:32:56. > :33:07.together, where we don't want to have the kind of pitting

:33:08. > :33:11.of people, one against the nother, where instead,

:33:12. > :33:13.we celebrate our diversity. And we make our

:33:14. > :33:15.country even greater. America is great because America

:33:16. > :33:18.is good, and it really is up to all of us to make that true,

:33:19. > :33:21.now and in the future, and particularly for our children

:33:22. > :33:23.and our grandchildren. Nobody has more respect

:33:24. > :33:36.for women than I do, nobody. And frankly, those stories have

:33:37. > :33:40.been largely debunked. And I want to just talk

:33:41. > :33:45.about something slightly different. She mentions this, which is all

:33:46. > :33:48.fiction, all fictionalised, probably or possibly started

:33:49. > :33:57.by her and her very sleazy campaign. But I will tell you, what isn't

:33:58. > :34:03.fictionalised are her e-mails where she destroyed,

:34:04. > :34:05.33,000 e-mails, criminally, criminally, after getting a subpoena

:34:06. > :34:08.from the United States Congress. We have a great General,

:34:09. > :34:14.four-star General, today, you read it in all the papers,

:34:15. > :34:17.going to potentially serve five She has lied hundreds of times -

:34:18. > :34:27.to the people, to Congress, And she gets away with it,

:34:28. > :34:38.and she can run for the presidency That's really what you should be

:34:39. > :34:43.talking about, not fiction where somebody wants fame,

:34:44. > :34:45.or where they come out Well, every time Donald

:34:46. > :34:51.is pushed on something, which is obviously uncomfortable,

:34:52. > :34:55.like what these women are saying, he immediately goes

:34:56. > :35:04.to denying responsibility. He never apologises or says

:35:05. > :35:11.he's sorry for anything. So we know what he has said

:35:12. > :35:14.and what he has done to women, but he also went after a disabled

:35:15. > :35:17.reporter, mocked and mimicked him on

:35:18. > :35:18.national television. He went after Mr and Mrs Khan,

:35:19. > :35:24.the parents of a young man who died serving our country,

:35:25. > :35:25.a gold-star family, He went after John McCain,

:35:26. > :35:35.a prisoner of war. Said he prefers

:35:36. > :35:38.people who aren't captured. He went after a federal judge,

:35:39. > :35:41.born in Indiana, but who Donald said couldn't be trusted to try the fraud

:35:42. > :35:43.and racketeering case against Trump University

:35:44. > :35:49.because his parents were Mexican. So it's not one thing, this is

:35:50. > :35:53.a pattern. A pattern

:35:54. > :35:55.of divisiveness, of a very dark Where he incites violence,

:35:56. > :36:04.where he applauds people who are pushing and pulling

:36:05. > :36:06.and punching at his rallies. And I hope that, as we move

:36:07. > :36:18.in the last weeks of this campaign, more and more people will understand

:36:19. > :36:21.what is at stake in this election. It really does come down

:36:22. > :36:24.to what kind of country So sad when she talks

:36:25. > :36:29.about violence at my rallies, about getting rid of Isis

:36:30. > :36:40.and I would love to talk But those other charges,

:36:41. > :36:46.as she knows, are false. In this talk about fitness to be

:36:47. > :36:50.president, there has been a lot of developments over the last ten

:36:51. > :36:52.days since the last debate. I would like to ask you about them,

:36:53. > :36:55.these are questions Secretary Clinton, during your 2009

:36:56. > :36:58.Senate confirmation hearing, you promised to avoid even

:36:59. > :37:01.the appearance of a conflict of interest with your dealing

:37:02. > :37:05.with the Clinton Foundation while you were Secretary of State,

:37:06. > :37:09.but e-mails show that donors got relief were considered separately

:37:10. > :37:21.from non-donors and some of those donors got government

:37:22. > :37:24.contracts, taxpayer money. Can you really say that

:37:25. > :37:31.you kept your pledge to that Senate committee and why isn't

:37:32. > :37:33.what happened and what went on between you and the Clinton

:37:34. > :37:36.Foundation, why isn't it Well, everything I did as Secretary

:37:37. > :37:40.of State was in furtherance of our country's interests

:37:41. > :37:42.and our values. The State Department has

:37:43. > :37:44.said that and I think But I'm happy - in fact,

:37:45. > :37:53.I'm thrilled - to talk about the Clinton Foundation,

:37:54. > :37:55.because it is a world-renowned charity and I'm so proud

:37:56. > :37:58.of the work that it does. I could talk for the rest

:37:59. > :38:01.of the debate, I know I don't Foundation made it possible

:38:02. > :38:06.for 11 million people around the world with HIV AIDS

:38:07. > :38:08.to afford treatment, and that is about half

:38:09. > :38:11.of all the people in the world In partnership with the American

:38:12. > :38:16.Health Association, we have made environments in schools

:38:17. > :38:19.healthier for children. Secretary Clinton, respectfully,

:38:20. > :38:21.this is an open discussion and the specific question about pay

:38:22. > :38:25.to play, do you want... Saudi Arabia giving $25 million,

:38:26. > :38:43.Qatar, all of these countries. You talk about women

:38:44. > :38:48.and women's rights? So these are people that push gays

:38:49. > :38:50.off business, off buildings. These are people that kill women

:38:51. > :38:53.and treat women horribly, So I would like to ask you right

:38:54. > :38:58.now, why don't you give back the money that you have taken

:38:59. > :39:01.from certain countries that treat certain groups of

:39:02. > :39:02.people so horribly? Because she takes a tremendous

:39:03. > :39:09.amount of money, and you take a look I was in Little Haiti the other day,

:39:10. > :39:15.in Florida, and I want to tell you, Because what has happened in Haiti

:39:16. > :39:19.with the Clinton Foundation And you know it, and they know it,

:39:20. > :39:26.and everybody knows it. Very quickly, we at the Clinton

:39:27. > :39:30.Foundation spend 90%, 90% of all the money that is donated

:39:31. > :39:33.on behalf of programmes for people around the world

:39:34. > :39:35.and in our own country. We have the highest rating

:39:36. > :39:41.from the watchdogs that follow And I would be happy

:39:42. > :39:47.to compare what we do with the Trump Foundation,

:39:48. > :39:50.which took money from other people and bought a six-foot

:39:51. > :39:52.portrait of Donald. When it comes to Haiti,

:39:53. > :40:01.Haiti is the poorest country The earthquake and the hurricanes

:40:02. > :40:06.have devastated Haiti. Bill and I have been involved

:40:07. > :40:09.in trying to help The Clinton Foundation raised

:40:10. > :40:12.$30 million to help Haiti after the catastrophic earthquake

:40:13. > :40:14.and all the terrible problems We have done things

:40:15. > :40:17.to help small businesses, And we are going to keep

:40:18. > :40:21.working to help Haiti because it is an important part

:40:22. > :40:29.of the American experience. They don't want them

:40:30. > :40:33.to help them any more. The Trump Foundation,

:40:34. > :40:39.small foundation, people contribute, I contribute, the money goes 100%,

:40:40. > :40:42.100% goes to different charities I don't get anything,

:40:43. > :40:47.I don't buy boats, Wasn't some of the money used

:40:48. > :40:54.to settle your lawsuit, sir? No, we put up the American flag

:40:55. > :40:57.and that's it. We fought for the right

:40:58. > :41:01.in Palm Beach to put There was a penalty that was imposed

:41:02. > :41:04.by the Palm Beach County that the money came

:41:05. > :41:08.from your foundation. There was, and the money

:41:09. > :41:10.went to Fisher House, The money you are talking

:41:11. > :41:18.about went to Fisher House, where they build houses for veterans

:41:19. > :41:24.and disabled people. Of course, there is no way

:41:25. > :41:27.we can know whether any of that is true because he hasn't

:41:28. > :41:30.released his tax returns. He is the first candidate ever

:41:31. > :41:34.to run for President in the last 40 plus years who has not

:41:35. > :41:36.released his tax returns so everything he says

:41:37. > :41:39.about charity or anything else, You can look at our tax returns,

:41:40. > :41:43.we have got them all out there. But what is really troubling

:41:44. > :41:46.is that we learned in the last debate, he has not paid a penny

:41:47. > :41:48.in federal income tax. We were talking about immigrants

:41:49. > :41:51.a few minutes ago, Chris. You know, half of all immigrants,

:41:52. > :41:54.undocumented immigrants in our country, actually

:41:55. > :41:55.pay federal income tax. So we have undocumented immigrants

:41:56. > :41:58.in America who are paying more federal income tax

:41:59. > :42:00.than a billionaire. We are entitled, because of the laws

:42:01. > :42:05.that people like her pass, to take massive amount

:42:06. > :42:07.of depreciation on other And all of her donors,

:42:08. > :42:15.just about all of them. I know Buffett took hundreds

:42:16. > :42:17.of millions of dollars, Soros, George Soros took hundreds

:42:18. > :42:21.of millions of dollars. Let me just explain,

:42:22. > :42:24.most of her donors have done Hillary, what you should have done,

:42:25. > :42:29.you should have changed the law when you were a United States

:42:30. > :42:35.Senator. Because your donors and your special

:42:36. > :42:37.interests are doing the same thing as I do,

:42:38. > :42:40.except even more so. You won't change the law

:42:41. > :42:45.because you take in so much money. I sat in my apartment today,

:42:46. > :42:48.in a very beautiful hotel down I sat there watching

:42:49. > :43:00.ad after ad after ad, all paid for by your friends

:43:01. > :43:03.on Wall Street that gave so much money because they know

:43:04. > :43:05.you are going to protect them. And frankly, you should

:43:06. > :43:07.have changed the laws, if you don't like what I did,

:43:08. > :43:11.you should have changed the laws. Mr Trump, I want to ask you one last

:43:12. > :43:16.question in this topic. You have been warning at rallies

:43:17. > :43:19.recently that this election is rigged and that Hillary Clinton

:43:20. > :43:22.is in the process of trying to steal Your running mate, Governor Pence,

:43:23. > :43:26.pledged on Sunday that he and you, his words, will absolutely accept

:43:27. > :43:29.the results of this election. Today, your daughter Ivanka

:43:30. > :43:35.said the same thing. I want to ask you here

:43:36. > :43:38.on this stage tonight, do you make the same commitment that

:43:39. > :43:40.you will absolutely, Sir, that you will absolutely accept

:43:41. > :43:46.the result of this election? I'm not looking at anything now,

:43:47. > :43:51.I will look at it at the time. First of all, the media

:43:52. > :43:56.is so dishonest and so corrupt The New York Times actually wrote

:43:57. > :44:00.an article about it, It's so dishonest, and they have

:44:01. > :44:05.poisoned the minds of the voters but unfortunately for them, I think

:44:06. > :44:09.the voters are seeing through it. I think they're going

:44:10. > :44:13.to see through it. We'll find out on November 8th,

:44:14. > :44:16.but I think they are If you look at your voter rolls,

:44:17. > :44:24.you will see millions of people that are registered to vote, millions,

:44:25. > :44:28.this isn't coming from me, this is coming from Puel report

:44:29. > :44:30.and other places. Millions of people that

:44:31. > :44:32.are registered to vote that So, let me just give

:44:33. > :44:36.you one other thing. I talk about the corrupt media,

:44:37. > :44:39.I talk about the millions of people. I'll tell you one other thing,

:44:40. > :44:42.she shouldn't be allowed to run. She's guilty of a very,

:44:43. > :44:44.very serious crime. And just in that respect,

:44:45. > :44:54.I say it is rigged. Chris, she should never have been

:44:55. > :44:57.allowed to run for the presidency based on what she did with e-mails

:44:58. > :45:02.and so many other things. There is a tradition in

:45:03. > :45:08.this country. In fact, one

:45:09. > :45:12.of the prides of this country, it's the peaceful

:45:13. > :45:14.transition of power, no matter how hard-fought a campaign

:45:15. > :45:18.is, that at the end of the campaign, Not necessarily saying

:45:19. > :45:23.you are going to be the loser concedes to the winner

:45:24. > :45:27.and that the country comes together Are you saying you are not prepared

:45:28. > :45:32.to accept that principle? What I'm saying is that

:45:33. > :45:35.I will tell you at the time, Chris, let me respond to that

:45:36. > :45:40.because that is horrifying. Every time Donald thinks things

:45:41. > :45:43.are not going in his direction, he claims whatever it is

:45:44. > :45:45.is rigged against him. The FBI conducted a year-long

:45:46. > :45:47.investigation into my e-mails. He lost the Iowa caucus,

:45:48. > :45:56.he lost the Wisconsin primary, he said the Republican primary

:45:57. > :45:59.was rigged against him. Then Trump University gets sued

:46:00. > :46:02.for fraud and racketeering, he claims the court system

:46:03. > :46:04.and the federal judge There was even a time when he didn't

:46:05. > :46:13.get an Emmy for his TV programme three years in a row and he started

:46:14. > :46:16.tweeting that the Emmys were rigged. This is a mindset, this is how

:46:17. > :46:23.Donald thinks. And it's funny but it's

:46:24. > :46:27.also really troubling. That is not the way

:46:28. > :46:30.our democracy works. We have had free and fair elections,

:46:31. > :46:37.we have accepted the outcomes That is what must be expected

:46:38. > :46:44.of anyone standing on a debate stage President Obama said the other day,

:46:45. > :46:50.when you are whining before the game is even finished,

:46:51. > :46:52.it shows you are not Let's be clear about what he is

:46:53. > :47:01.saying and what that means. He is denigrating, he is talking

:47:02. > :47:05.down our democracy and I, for one, am appalled that somebody

:47:06. > :47:09.who is the nominee of one of our two major parties would take that

:47:10. > :47:13.kind of position. I think what the FBI did and what

:47:14. > :47:16.the Department of Justice did - including meeting with her husband,

:47:17. > :47:20.the Attorney General, on the back of an aeroplane,

:47:21. > :47:23.on the tarmac in Arizona - I think we've never had a situation

:47:24. > :47:29.so bad in this country. This is the final time -

:47:30. > :47:34.probably to both of your delight - that you're going to be on stage

:47:35. > :47:36.together this campaign. I would like to end it

:47:37. > :47:41.on a positive note. You had not agreed to closing

:47:42. > :47:43.statements, but it seems to me in a funny way,

:47:44. > :47:46.that might make it more interesting because you haven't prepared

:47:47. > :47:47.closing statements. A minute is the final question,

:47:48. > :47:55.in the final debate, to tell the American people why

:47:56. > :47:58.they should elect you to be the next Secretary Clinton, it's

:47:59. > :48:04.your turn to go first. Well, I would like to say

:48:05. > :48:07.to everyone watching tonight that I'm reaching out to all Americans -

:48:08. > :48:10.Democrats, Republicans and Independents -

:48:11. > :48:13.because we need everybody to help To grow the economy,

:48:14. > :48:18.to make it fairer, to make it We need your talents,

:48:19. > :48:23.your skills, your commitment, You know, I've been privileged

:48:24. > :48:30.to see the presidency up close and I know the awesome

:48:31. > :48:32.responsibility of protecting our country and the incredible

:48:33. > :48:35.opportunity of working to try to make life

:48:36. > :48:39.better for all of you. I have made the cause of children

:48:40. > :48:44.and families really my life's work. That's what my mission

:48:45. > :48:47.will be in the presidency. I will stand up for families

:48:48. > :48:49.against powerful interests, I will do everything

:48:50. > :48:54.that I can to make sure that you have good jobs,

:48:55. > :48:58.with rising incomes, that your kids have good educations,

:48:59. > :49:00.from preschool through college. I hope you will give me a chance

:49:01. > :49:04.to serve as your President. She's raising the money from

:49:05. > :49:10.the people she wants to control. But when I started this campaign,

:49:11. > :49:15.I started very it strongly. It's called Make

:49:16. > :49:17.America Great Again. It has to be helped,

:49:18. > :49:23.it has to be fixed. We have the greatest people

:49:24. > :49:26.on Earth in our military. We take care of illegal

:49:27. > :49:30.immigrants, people that come Better than we take

:49:31. > :49:39.care of our vets. Our policemen and women

:49:40. > :49:41.are disrespected. We need law and order,

:49:42. > :49:43.but we need justice too. You get shot walking to the store,

:49:44. > :49:47.they have no education, I will do more for African-Americans

:49:48. > :49:51.and Latinos than she can ever All she's done is talk

:49:52. > :49:55.to the African-Americans But they get the vote,

:49:56. > :50:00.then they come back, they say, We are going to make America strong

:50:01. > :50:05.again and we are going to make America great again,

:50:06. > :50:07.and it has to start now. We cannot take four more

:50:08. > :50:10.years of Barack Obama, and that's what you get

:50:11. > :50:13.when you get her. Secretary Clinton, Mr Trump,

:50:14. > :50:21.I want to thank you both for participating in all three

:50:22. > :50:24.of these debates. That brings to an end

:50:25. > :50:26.this year's debates, sponsored by the Commission

:50:27. > :50:29.on Presidential Debates. We want to thank the University

:50:30. > :50:31.of Nevada, Las Vegas, While millions have already voted,

:50:32. > :50:40.Election Day, November 8th, is just 20 days away, one thing

:50:41. > :50:43.everyone here can agree on - It is one of the honours

:50:44. > :50:48.and obligations of living So this was a debate that touched

:50:49. > :51:00.a whole range of issues. It was more substantive in many ways

:51:01. > :51:03.than the previous two debates. But it will have been dominated

:51:04. > :51:06.by the headline that Donald Trump has not guaranteed

:51:07. > :51:09.that he will accept the result That is what everyone

:51:10. > :51:12.here in Las Vegas has been talking about and it is something that

:51:13. > :51:15.Donald Trump and his campaign will have to tidy up over the course

:51:16. > :51:20.of the next couple of days. We'll have more analysis in just

:51:21. > :51:26.a moment but if you have just tuned in and missed the highlights form

:51:27. > :51:29.the debate, we'll be showing it Reaction to the debate

:51:30. > :51:37.was predictably polarised. Donald Trump's campaign manager,

:51:38. > :51:39.Kellyanne Conway, thinks her candidate has a message that

:51:40. > :51:41.will resonate with Americans, and was keen to push Mr Trump's

:51:42. > :51:44.socially conservative Everything he has been talking

:51:45. > :51:52.about was all stirred up tonight Defending the sanctity

:51:53. > :51:55.of life was a great one. I know a lot of Republican

:51:56. > :51:58.candidates who say they are pro-life and can't really articulate it

:51:59. > :52:01.the way he did where he took the case directly

:52:02. > :52:02.to Hillary Clinton. Basically, she supports abortion

:52:03. > :52:05.in the ninth month and most However, while Trump may

:52:06. > :52:13.have wished to focus on his anti-abortion stance,

:52:14. > :52:15.many of today's headlines home in on his unwillingness to guarantee

:52:16. > :52:18.that he will accept the result His opponents were quick

:52:19. > :52:21.to pick up on this. The Interim Chair of

:52:22. > :52:24.the Democratic National Committee, Donna Brazile, suggested Mr Trump

:52:25. > :52:26.was falling short of the standards expected of a presidential

:52:27. > :52:30.candidate. I've gone all over this country,

:52:31. > :52:33.the world, to talk about how We are an example for the world,

:52:34. > :52:39.and to have a leading presidential candidate undermine our democracy

:52:40. > :52:51.I think is shameful. Our US correspondent,

:52:52. > :53:08.Laura Bicker, is in Washington. How has America reacted to this

:53:09. > :53:13.final debate? As you heard, the main reaction has been to the Donald

:53:14. > :53:17.Trump answer about whether or not he would concede this election and

:53:18. > :53:23.whether he would keep us all in suspense. Why is this such a big

:53:24. > :53:28.issue when there was 90 minutes of debate and this only took up a

:53:29. > :53:31.couple? This go to the very heart of American democracy, that there are

:53:32. > :53:36.elections are free and fair and there is this smooth transition, a

:53:37. > :53:41.peaceful transition of power. This narrative that he has been talking

:53:42. > :53:45.about on his campaign speeches and again tonight, that the election is

:53:46. > :53:50.rigged and he may have to look at the result before he concedes, I

:53:51. > :53:56.think many of his Republican base are now trying to distance

:53:57. > :53:59.themselves from that. If you look at the leading Republicans, already

:54:00. > :54:03.they have said that they will respect the outcome of the debate,

:54:04. > :54:07.his own daughter said before the debate that they would respect the

:54:08. > :54:11.outcome. His running mate, Mike Pence, said they would respect it.

:54:12. > :54:15.The only person who is saying right now that they will keep us in

:54:16. > :54:20.suspense is the candidate, Donald Trump. It makes him look separate

:54:21. > :54:25.from the party, again, but also sets him up once more among his base as

:54:26. > :54:30.this and the establishment candidate. He is saying he's the man

:54:31. > :54:34.to clean up Washington and if he is going along that line, maybe among

:54:35. > :54:37.his supporters they might think that Washington does need cleaning up,

:54:38. > :54:40.including the electoral process but there is no evidence that the

:54:41. > :54:46.election has been rigged -- antiestablishment. Is there any

:54:47. > :54:52.common ground between them? That's a good question! When it comes to

:54:53. > :54:57.tonight, for the first 35 minutes you saw what divided them and very

:54:58. > :55:04.clearly, and for the first time, for the last two debates from the outset

:55:05. > :55:07.it has been insulted after insult but tonight we got 35 minutes of

:55:08. > :55:13.policy, would you believe it. They talked about abortion and gun

:55:14. > :55:16.control and who they would a point in the Supreme Court. There might

:55:17. > :55:19.have been a lot of Americans who were looking for answers to these

:55:20. > :55:24.questions and could see a clear division between them. And it stuck

:55:25. > :55:30.to party lines. And then you heard Donald Trump veering off, calling

:55:31. > :55:37.her a liar, saying she was and asked the woman. There is very little that

:55:38. > :55:40.these candidates have in common. I think in the last debate there was

:55:41. > :55:44.the question asked, what you respect about them both and certainly Donald

:55:45. > :55:48.Trump said he respected the fact that Hillary Clinton does not give

:55:49. > :55:54.up. Perhaps people would say the same about him so they have that in

:55:55. > :55:56.common. Thank you very much. Laura has been keeping an eye on the final

:55:57. > :55:57.presidential debate. And there's more on the US

:55:58. > :56:00.Presidential debate on our website. For highlights, reaction and

:56:01. > :56:06.analysis head to bbc.co.uk/us2016. And we'll also have another special

:56:07. > :56:17.highlights programme at 8pm tonight. The headlines are coming up

:56:18. > :56:20.on the BBC News Channel. In a moment we say goodbye

:56:21. > :56:24.to viewers on BBC Two. First we leave you with

:56:25. > :56:38.a look at the weather. It is pretty quiet for much of the

:56:39. > :56:43.UK. This is the satellite sequence, in fact this is the radar shows a

:56:44. > :56:47.scattering of showers coming in on the breeze to the east of the UK and

:56:48. > :56:52.one or two further to the west but a lot of dry whether to be had. Quite

:56:53. > :56:57.a breeze on the east of the UK and with that and the showers it is on

:56:58. > :57:00.the chilly side on that Norfolk and Lincolnshire coast, maybe only 11 or

:57:01. > :57:03.12 degrees but further north and west we have some good spells of

:57:04. > :57:09.sunshine through the afternoon. Not overly warm, 11 or 12 again and

:57:10. > :57:13.about 12 in Northern Ireland where it has been fine and right so far

:57:14. > :57:17.today. That will continue this afternoon and with light winds so

:57:18. > :57:21.pleasant enough. Many western areas into a decent day but the eastern

:57:22. > :57:27.side has that breeds and those showers but even here there is some

:57:28. > :57:33.sunshine -- breeze. 30 or 40 degrees in the West and not particularly

:57:34. > :57:36.windy. But -- 13 or 14. A few showers around the coast this

:57:37. > :57:42.evening and a bit of rain in the north-west but mostly fine and dry,

:57:43. > :57:46.quite chilly in the major towns and cities with six or 7 degrees but

:57:47. > :57:52.freezing in a few rural places with a touch of frost and maybe some fog.

:57:53. > :57:56.A pretty fresh start to Friday but a lot of dry weather at the end of the

:57:57. > :58:01.week. Some light rain in the Western Isles, edging into western Scotland

:58:02. > :58:04.and maybe a few light showers in the south-eastern corner but inland most

:58:05. > :58:10.places are doing well. Lighter winds and good spells of sunshine and the

:58:11. > :58:16.template is will be about 11, 12, 13 degrees. -- temperatures. We have

:58:17. > :58:21.this area of low pressure to the east and there is quite a breeze

:58:22. > :58:26.coming in during Saturday. That will bring a fair bit of cloud and some

:58:27. > :58:31.light rain showers on the east but the further west you go, it should

:58:32. > :58:34.be fine and dry. Temperatures just about in double figures for most

:58:35. > :58:40.places. Sunday into Monday, a few showers coming in on the east of the

:58:41. > :58:44.UK but that should be some good spells of dry whether, particularly

:58:45. > :58:50.for the West. A bit more cloud and that might thicken up in Plymouth by

:58:51. > :58:53.Monday to bring some rain, accompanied by a noticeable breeze.

:58:54. > :58:57.That is the next few days. Maybe you are off on holiday and you can take

:58:58. > :58:59.a look at the forecast for where you are going on the BBC weather website

:59:00. > :59:01.but for now,
