0:00:09 > 0:00:11Hello there.
0:00:13 > 0:00:16I'm all right. What's your name? I'm Justin.
0:00:16 > 0:00:19'Starting somewhere new is always a bizarre experience.
0:00:19 > 0:00:24'There's so much to get used to, and things come at you at such a pace.
0:00:24 > 0:00:27'It's been a huge year of contrasts.'
0:00:27 > 0:00:30It's had some incredible high points,
0:00:30 > 0:00:33one of them being the baptism of Prince George.
0:00:33 > 0:00:36And...to be honest, I had to pinch myself
0:00:36 > 0:00:39to think I was actually there.
0:00:39 > 0:00:44'And another one was my installation at Canterbury Cathedral.
0:00:44 > 0:00:48'A wonderful service in a packed cathedral, very exciting
0:00:48 > 0:00:52'and a weight of history coming down on one's shoulders.'
0:00:53 > 0:00:56And then there's been other real high points,
0:00:56 > 0:00:57and one of them is today,
0:00:57 > 0:01:01'coming here to this Church Urban Fund supported centre,
0:01:01 > 0:01:02'The Ace of Clubs.'
0:01:02 > 0:01:05She's one of our students from the education course
0:01:05 > 0:01:08and has been really enjoying that. Are you? What are you doing?
0:01:08 > 0:01:10I do computing.
0:01:10 > 0:01:13I remember the first time I had to deal with a computer,
0:01:13 > 0:01:14I was absolutely terrified.
0:01:14 > 0:01:16No, no, no, no, no!
0:01:18 > 0:01:22'They care for people on the very edge.'
0:01:22 > 0:01:25They enable people to find their way back
0:01:25 > 0:01:28into the mainstream of life when they want to.
0:01:28 > 0:01:30You are amazing.
0:01:30 > 0:01:34'And that's one of the greatest excitements of this job,'
0:01:34 > 0:01:38being part of an organisation that is, in many places,
0:01:38 > 0:01:41the glue that's holding the whole of society together.
0:01:44 > 0:01:48'Whenever Christians speak out on issues of poverty
0:01:48 > 0:01:52'or social issues of all kinds, we always get letters saying,
0:01:52 > 0:01:55' "Why don't you just talk about God
0:01:55 > 0:01:58' "and stop getting muddled up in other subjects?" '
0:01:59 > 0:02:02When I go to my Bible and think,
0:02:02 > 0:02:07"OK, what's God saying and how do I talk more
0:02:07 > 0:02:10"about God and get closer to God and encourage other people to get closer
0:02:10 > 0:02:15"to God?", the thing I find is that God says,
0:02:15 > 0:02:19"Love me and show you love me by loving your neighbour."
0:02:19 > 0:02:22And if you love your neighbour, you're going to be deeply concerned
0:02:22 > 0:02:24in the things that trouble them,
0:02:24 > 0:02:28'whether it's about heating bills, whether it's about insecurity
0:02:28 > 0:02:31'in families and the need for good community life.
0:02:31 > 0:02:33'And the Church is involved in those,
0:02:33 > 0:02:38'because we want to demonstrate that we have freely received
0:02:38 > 0:02:42'the love of God and we want to share that with others.'
0:02:42 > 0:02:43It's not about politics -
0:02:43 > 0:02:45it's about love.
0:02:47 > 0:02:51I know it's the New Year and I don't want to sound like Scrooge,
0:02:51 > 0:02:54but I never make New Year resolutions.
0:02:54 > 0:02:56I'm just hopeless at them.
0:02:56 > 0:02:59It's not that they aren't a very good thing,
0:02:59 > 0:03:01it's just that I know I'm not going to keep them
0:03:01 > 0:03:05and I have this vague sense that there's no point in doing them,
0:03:05 > 0:03:08except there's one I want to think about this year.
0:03:08 > 0:03:11'I want to suggest this year that each of us
0:03:11 > 0:03:16'makes a resolution to try and change the world a bit where we are.
0:03:16 > 0:03:20'Nelson Mandela said that dealing with poverty
0:03:20 > 0:03:25'is not an act of charity, it's an act of justice.'
0:03:25 > 0:03:30He said every generation has the chance to be a great generation,
0:03:30 > 0:03:32and we can be that great generation.
0:03:34 > 0:03:37'I look around and I see many signs of hope,
0:03:37 > 0:03:41'but also there are many communities,
0:03:41 > 0:03:43'many families, many individuals struggling.'
0:03:48 > 0:03:53Perhaps our New Year's resolution is therefore not just...
0:03:53 > 0:03:56to do something slightly differently,
0:03:56 > 0:04:01but to set our eyes on changing the world around us.
0:04:01 > 0:04:06That would really change our country in the most amazing way.
