:11:43. > :11:46.
:11:46. > :11:51.the group. Yuki Takamiya is number 24. Back to the women. It is a
:11:51. > :11:59.mixed field and they have the advantage of working off the men.
:11:59. > :12:09.For some of the men, it is great fun to run alongside these elite

:12:21. > :12:28.as they make their way through this area of Glasgow and onto the
:12:28. > :12:35.Kingston Bridge. It looks like a bit of a break. Joseph Birech is
:12:35. > :12:41.putting the brakes on. The first of the Japanese running, as you can
:12:41. > :12:47.see, the closer route. A little glance from John Kelai. That is
:12:47. > :12:52.Yuki Takamiya, who is happy to get in there. There is a gap opening up
:12:52. > :13:00.as Joseph Birech and John Kelai start to move away from the rest of
:13:00. > :13:06.the field. You can see what -- what they climb it is. It is one of the
:13:06. > :13:12.best bits of the route in terms of taking in the views of the city. It
:13:12. > :13:17.is a stretch of Scotland's busiest motorway. There looks to be a gap
:13:17. > :13:23.between the leading group and the second group - the trading group -
:13:23. > :13:33.of about 20 metres or so. Nothing significant. You have got Joseph
:13:33. > :13:43.
:13:43. > :13:53.Birech leading along with John he's the man he is trying to stay
:13:53. > :14:02.
:14:02. > :14:06.in touch with the two Kenyans. That won the you know well, Brian.
:14:06. > :14:13.a race that has been dominated by the Kenyans in the men and women's
:14:13. > :14:23.races. Always a big Japanese contingent here, but they have
:14:23. > :14:23.
:14:23. > :14:33.never really figured. This is a mixture of the elite women and some
:14:33. > :14:38.
:14:38. > :14:42.of the stronger men. The Japanese athletes in the blue on the left,
:14:42. > :14:49.she was 20th in the world junior cross-country championship a few
:14:49. > :14:54.years ago. She is very good in the country and on the roads now.
:14:54. > :14:59.of these Japanese athletes don't raise much outside Japan, but
:14:59. > :15:04.always could have been welcoming in Glasgow. Sohta Hoshi is now a
:15:04. > :15:10.leading the training group. So, three Japanese and one Spaniard in
:15:10. > :15:20.that group. We will get so it's a view on how far the leaders are
:15:20. > :15:25.
:15:25. > :15:34.ahead in a moment. That is one at the refreshment stops. Sohta Hoshi
:15:34. > :15:40.is a good 5000 metre man. That is the gap. That gap really has
:15:40. > :15:45.increased since the game of the Briedge. They just came past
:15:46. > :15:52.Scotland Street School, designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh. This is
:15:52. > :15:57.almost at tourist trail around Glasgow's city centre. That gives
:15:57. > :16:07.you some indication, at that point we were making about the
:16:07. > :16:10.
:16:10. > :16:20.undulations in the course. Destine help pieces quite striking. -- that
:16:20. > :16:22.
:16:22. > :16:32.Hale is quite striking. Farrell, the wheelchair racer, he is working
:16:32. > :16:33.
:16:33. > :16:39.hard at the back of Back group. -- that group. This looks like a
:16:39. > :16:46.significant move away now. This sort of speed that this woman is
:16:46. > :16:51.putting in, that means she is sub 70, there is no question about that.
:16:51. > :16:59.This is early to make this break. We are not even at the four mile
:16:59. > :17:04.mark. Scotland Street School is just ahead of the three mile marker.
:17:04. > :17:13.Back to the leading men. I was just wondering if Yuki Takamiya of Japan
:17:13. > :17:20.could hold on with the Kenyans, and I think that is the answer. Joseph
:17:20. > :17:30.Birech, on the left, looks quite happy. His best time ever was
:17:30. > :17:35.recorded in Alicante last year. Joseph Birech really wants this. He
:17:35. > :17:43.has been very much a part of the race weekend, inspiring the
:17:43. > :17:50.thousands of juniors who came along for the junior races on Saturday.
:17:50. > :18:00.Along with John Kelai, he wants to be the first man for a long time to
:18:00. > :18:02.
:18:02. > :18:12.win the race to times in a row. you can see the Japanese here
:18:12. > :18:25.
:18:25. > :18:31.pitting the Kenyan under pressure. a picture big enough to show us the
:18:31. > :18:35.gap that has been built up. It seems to get bigger and bigger. She
:18:35. > :18:42.doesn't have any of the men around her. She is not looking bothered by
:18:42. > :18:51.being out on her room. She made her marathon debut in 2003, indeed due
:18:51. > :18:58.by marathon. She took second place. It was one of the fastest times as
:18:58. > :19:03.a debutante, so she is a real talent. Let's see what the men are
:19:03. > :19:08.doing. Let's see if anything else has happened. It looks as though
:19:08. > :19:12.there is a bit of a break up there. It looks as if there is a gap
:19:12. > :19:18.between John Kelai in second place, and it looks like Joseph Birech has
:19:18. > :19:25.got a bit of a gap. This could be the most significant break for him.
:19:25. > :19:31.The rest are all out of shot at the moment. You can tell this is a man
:19:31. > :19:41.who has been talking it up, and he is pitting the action along to the
:19:41. > :19:55.
:19:55. > :20:03.words. It seems that both that men and women are being very impatient.
:20:03. > :20:09.Look at that, no expression, very relaxed. She is clearly on route.
:20:09. > :20:19.It looks like she could be on route for 69 in have, or something like
:20:19. > :20:40.
:20:40. > :20:46.in 2000. Bellahouston Park and this is a significant lead. Joseph
:20:46. > :20:56.Birech the defending champion has made his lead. John Kelai could not
:20:56. > :20:57.
:20:57. > :21:01.respond to that. At the moment anyway. Here are the women
:21:01. > :21:05.approaching. The National Masters cross country champion is a
:21:06. > :21:14.tempting to pace the leader of the women's race. Bellahouston Park
:21:14. > :21:24.Park has been host to a two Popes. To date it is home to this Great
:21:24. > :21:34.
:21:34. > :21:42.Scottish Run. -- today. Yuki just thought that John Kelai might
:21:42. > :21:47.have been able to hold on to Joseph Birech. He looks to be in good form.
:21:47. > :21:53.You have bad a good patches in races. He is desperately trying to
:21:53. > :22:01.make up some of the lost ground. It is a big lead he has at the moment
:22:01. > :22:08.in this race. John Kelai has some work to do. He is coming to
:22:08. > :22:14.Mosspark Boulevard. There is a big gap. Joseph Birech is making his
:22:14. > :22:20.way to the second of the two parks. This could be tricky. So far they
:22:20. > :22:30.have been running on flat roads. This is way you get a few twists
:22:30. > :22:42.
:22:42. > :22:47.made a bit of a move. Here is your leader, beat Bo Qiu. She is so far
:22:47. > :22:55.gone. She is on course for for finishing the race and under 70
:22:55. > :23:04.minutes. It is a long way to go for our leader in the women's race. It
:23:04. > :23:08.is a surprise that Aya Nagata has gone ahead Scotby David Boudia. Did
:23:09. > :23:12.difference in their personal bests is about three minutes! Beat David
:23:12. > :23:22.Boudia on paper is certainly a lot faster, but it doesn't look that
:23:22. > :23:24.
:23:24. > :23:34.way. So, here is be Oleksandr Bondar. He is on about 63 minutes
:23:34. > :23:44.
:23:44. > :23:50.the field, that he doesn't need to pursue it. Imagine if you are a
:23:50. > :23:56.runner who lives in Glasgow, having this huge country estate just off
:23:56. > :24:06.the main motorway, gifted to the City back in the 1960s, a great
:24:06. > :24:16.place to go and train. The Bo Qiu, her best time of the year was set
:24:16. > :24:23.
:24:23. > :24:28.in the April, but she will be well helped by running along with some
:24:28. > :24:38.of the domestic men. She doesn't worry about that, she has left them
:24:38. > :24:40.
:24:40. > :24:50.all behind! I just got a glimpse there of Sohta Hoshi. He has come
:24:50. > :24:51.
:24:51. > :24:54.right on the heels of John Kelai! John Kelai must have gone through
:24:54. > :25:00.her really bad patch to allowed the Japanese to come back. You have to
:25:00. > :25:06.give a lot of credit to Sohta Hoshi. He is going really well. His speed
:25:06. > :25:15.is good, the way in which she is running the race is good. He looks
:25:15. > :25:21.keeping concentration. John Kelai is the one who looks worried. It
:25:21. > :25:31.looks like he now needs to put his foot down but it looks like the
:25:31. > :25:42.
:25:42. > :25:47.Japanese athlete, Sohta Hoshi, is women, Aya Nagata. We sold the
:25:47. > :25:57.leader go through the Bo Qiu going through some time ago. There is
:25:57. > :26:02.Grace Momanyi. Not much has happened since we last saw them.
:26:02. > :26:10.Simon Jones, the Welsh ten-mile road champion is just tuck into
:26:10. > :26:15.that group of the women as well. You can see why Glasgow is pleased
:26:15. > :26:22.to call itself the green place. looks like Sohta Hoshi has gone
:26:22. > :26:32.away from John Kelai! You can see the unduly Asian here. That gap has
:26:32. > :26:41.certainly increased. There is Scotland's Commonwealth Games
:26:41. > :26:51.marathon champion, currently sitting in fit Dorset place. -- in
:26:51. > :26:58.
:26:58. > :27:03.He looks very easy, doesn't he? He is not going out for fast times, he
:27:03. > :27:09.is doing what he needs to do to defend his title. The undulations
:27:09. > :27:19.of the course have been pretty obvious to see. The gap has
:27:19. > :27:21.
:27:21. > :27:29.increased between him and John Kelai, that's for sure. Aya Nagata
:27:29. > :27:35.looking strong. The men are at the 10 mile mark. The women will soon
:27:35. > :27:40.be there. This is a big, big surprise. It is a long time since
:27:40. > :27:46.the Japanese women have featured on the podium here in Glasgow. They
:27:46. > :27:52.are a big part of this race. There is always a big Japanese team that
:27:52. > :27:58.comes here for this. They have performed outside themselves today.
:27:58. > :28:05.Reflecting on Aya Nagata, she is on the sort of schedule to make her
:28:05. > :28:10.personal best. Joseph Birech looks so comfortable, like his out for a
:28:10. > :28:15.Sunday morning jog! He did the business earlier on. He will not
:28:15. > :28:25.know that Sohta Hoshi is now in second place. I doubt if it would
:28:25. > :28:26.
:28:26. > :28:36.worry him, because the gap is very, very big indeed. The Bo Qiu -- the

:30:20. > :30:26.Bekele looks the same. She is relaxed and a beautiful athlete.
:30:26. > :30:33.do not think we will see fast times. For most of this race, the leaders
:30:33. > :30:39.had been out there on that own. The final section is quick. The River
:30:39. > :30:45.Clyde is on one side. The main bit of Glasgow Green is on the other
:30:45. > :30:50.side. They can hear the finish line. They know it is almost in sight.
:30:50. > :31:00.The encouragement is coming. The cameras are clicking. These moments
:31:00. > :31:06.
:31:06. > :31:11.are recorded. The man en-route to defending his title. My first of
:31:11. > :31:17.this accomplished men's line-up approaches the finish. The
:31:17. > :31:24.defending champion is coming home just outside 63, to take the title
:31:24. > :31:29.once again and defend his title. He allows himself a little celebration.
:31:29. > :31:36.Joseph Birech wins the Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run For the

:32:03. > :32:09.Just outside 64 minutes. Will John Kelai hold on? He is coming through
:32:09. > :32:14.into third place. He has recovered a little bit. I do not think the
:32:14. > :32:22.gap was as great as it was at one stage of the race. He comes through
