0:02:40 > 0:02:43It's a kaleidoscope of sporting talent.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45That's your line-up, these are the rules.

0:02:45 > 0:02:47Eight men, eight women, eight events.

0:02:47 > 0:02:50We pull each athlete out of two events, but they all have to suffer

0:02:50 > 0:02:54the Superstars gym tests, and they're all in the starting line-up

0:02:54 > 0:02:57for the 100 metres, and that is your curtain raiser.

0:02:57 > 0:03:01So, welcome to the sports village at the University of Bath

0:03:01 > 0:03:05and a rainy welcome to our athletics expert, Denise Lewis.

0:03:05 > 0:03:08Denise, we're starting with the blue riband event, the 100 metres.

0:03:08 > 0:03:10What are we looking for here?

0:03:10 > 0:03:12Well, I'm really excited about this event.

0:03:12 > 0:03:15I mean, we've got some athletes that haven't done this 100m

0:03:15 > 0:03:17since they've been at school.

0:03:17 > 0:03:18But it promises to be a good one,

0:03:18 > 0:03:20full of drama.

0:03:20 > 0:03:22But it's actually quite surprisingly a technical event, isn't it?

0:03:22 > 0:03:24You can break it up in three parts,

0:03:24 > 0:03:26and that start's going to be interesting

0:03:26 > 0:03:27because they're using blocks.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29Starting blocks for the first time, a lot of them.

0:03:29 > 0:03:32The start is crucial. That can really make your race.

0:03:32 > 0:03:36And then we look at the pick-up phase, the acceleration.

0:03:36 > 0:03:40And this is where we'll see a lot of the power coming through, hopefully.

0:03:40 > 0:03:43And then it's holding that form all the way to the line,

0:03:43 > 0:03:46keeping that tension out of the shoulders and just going for it.

0:03:46 > 0:03:48And I guess getting rid of any nerves,

0:03:48 > 0:03:50any tension, as you mentioned,

0:03:50 > 0:03:52that they may have about the event as a whole.

0:03:52 > 0:03:55So let's get down to our roving reporter, Iwan Thomas.

0:03:55 > 0:03:58Boys, come round a minute.

0:03:58 > 0:03:59They don't need any help there, sir.

0:03:59 > 0:04:00Yeah, we do.

0:04:00 > 0:04:02Now, listen, Mo.

0:04:02 > 0:04:05You three are obviously the runners, the endurance base.

0:04:05 > 0:04:08Start with you, Mo. You're the golden boy of British sport.

0:04:08 > 0:04:09A lot of people are out here to watch,

0:04:09 > 0:04:12people at home are watching this and expecting you to run fast.

0:04:12 > 0:04:14I know it's only 100m, but those little legs, come on.

0:04:14 > 0:04:16They need to start moving fast, all of us.

0:04:16 > 0:04:20We're used to like, what, running 62 seconds a lap, and these guys,

0:04:20 > 0:04:22it's a little bit slower, they're 10k,

0:04:22 > 0:04:24so we've got to try to move faster today.

0:04:24 > 0:04:27But it's all having fun, and we'll see what we can do, I guess.

0:04:27 > 0:04:30But, Alistair, technique-wise, you're a good runner, aren't you,

0:04:30 > 0:04:32so once you're up to speed, surely you'll be all right?

0:04:32 > 0:04:34I think so, but I get up to speed at about 110m, I think,

0:04:34 > 0:04:36so it's not much good for that.

0:04:36 > 0:04:38This whole competition's going to be tight and tough,

0:04:38 > 0:04:41but little brother here, you've got to get one over on him?

0:04:41 > 0:04:43Absolutely, yeah. I'm going to do everything to try to beat him today.

0:04:43 > 0:04:46Jonny, when you chatted yesterday, you said to me,

0:04:46 > 0:04:48'I don't mind if I'm seventh, as long as he's eighth'.

0:04:48 > 0:04:51- It's all about beating your brother, isn't it?- Definitely.

0:04:51 > 0:04:52I thought we'd be next to each other

0:04:52 > 0:04:54and I'm a gutted we're apart so I can't play mind games.

0:04:54 > 0:04:57But it's going to be interesting to see who can sprint the fastest,

0:04:57 > 0:05:00but I don't think it'll be any of us three who's going to win today.

0:05:00 > 0:05:02There'll be some fast twitch out there.

0:05:02 > 0:05:05So, the heavyweight boys, I'm jumping to be the same height.

0:05:05 > 0:05:07Anthony, start with you. You're a powerful man.

0:05:07 > 0:05:09It's got to suit you, the 100m, surely?

0:05:09 > 0:05:10It's perfect for me. I'm feeling good.

0:05:10 > 0:05:12I've got my main two rivals on the side of me.

0:05:12 > 0:05:15Apparently Pete's been in Dubai at a training camp for this!

0:05:15 > 0:05:17So he's been telling me.

0:05:17 > 0:05:18Pete, come on.

0:05:18 > 0:05:20That is a lie. That is a huge lie. Don't listen to him.

0:05:20 > 0:05:22You're a liar. No, I am terrified.

0:05:22 > 0:05:25You're used to standing still, aren't you, a bit of rotation.

0:05:25 > 0:05:26What's this all about?

0:05:26 > 0:05:30My sport is perfected standing still, as still as possible.

0:05:30 > 0:05:33So this is alien, and as I said, yeah, I am petrified.

0:05:45 > 0:05:49All of our Superstars have obviously got to take part in this event.

0:05:50 > 0:05:53They're going to be sent on their way by the number one

0:05:53 > 0:05:55track and field starter in the world, Alan Bell.

0:05:55 > 0:05:57Set!

0:05:57 > 0:05:58STARTING GUN FIRES

0:05:58 > 0:06:01Little twitch on the blocks there by Robbie Grabarz,

0:06:01 > 0:06:02he gets away well, though.

0:06:02 > 0:06:05The Olympic bronze medallist in the high jump is flying.

0:06:05 > 0:06:07But look at Anthony Joshua coming through.

0:06:07 > 0:06:09His long legs bringing him victory.

0:06:09 > 0:06:13Anthony Joshua, Robbie Grabarz, then Mo Farah.

0:06:13 > 0:06:15Oh, wow, and poor old Andy Triggs Hodge there,

0:06:15 > 0:06:18way, way back in eighth place.

0:06:18 > 0:06:21But delight for the big man.

0:06:21 > 0:06:22Ten big points in the first event.

0:06:24 > 0:06:26All eyes at this moment were on Mo Farah,

0:06:26 > 0:06:285,000 and 10,000 metre gold medallist.

0:06:31 > 0:06:34But all the action was happening nearer the main stand

0:06:34 > 0:06:37where Anthony Joshua just dipped ahead of Robbie Grabarz to take it.

0:06:38 > 0:06:40Good victory and smiles all round

0:06:40 > 0:06:42for our Olympic super-heavyweight boxer.

0:06:44 > 0:06:45There's the result.

0:06:55 > 0:06:59Anthony, big unit that you are. You steamed it.

0:06:59 > 0:07:02I didn't steam it. That's my competition, he spurred me on.

0:07:02 > 0:07:04Number two spurred me on.

0:07:04 > 0:07:07He's great, and, you know, I might've found a new career in running.

0:07:07 > 0:07:10Nice little smile through the line. You had that, you knew you'd won it.

0:07:10 > 0:07:13It's that feeling when you put in the last bit. I dug deep, man.

0:07:13 > 0:07:15He's a good runner. He pushed me,

0:07:15 > 0:07:17so you always need to have that last bit in the tank,

0:07:17 > 0:07:18you know what I mean, to give some.

0:07:18 > 0:07:20And how does it feel? First event out the way.

0:07:20 > 0:07:22Nerves have gone. Maximum points on the board.

0:07:22 > 0:07:24You're the man to shoot at now.

0:07:24 > 0:07:26Consistency, that's what it is. Keep on coming first.

0:07:26 > 0:07:28It's an all-round tournament, and I really want to win it.

0:07:28 > 0:07:30- Do you reckon you can do it?- Yes.

0:07:30 > 0:07:32I'm not arguing with you. Good luck.

0:07:32 > 0:07:33Thank you.

0:07:33 > 0:07:35We're not going to beat about the bush.

0:07:35 > 0:07:38These aren't conditions for record-breaking 100m running.

0:07:38 > 0:07:40But Anthony Joshua, with dry conditions,

0:07:40 > 0:07:42where could he have gone?

0:07:42 > 0:07:4411.53. How explosive was that start?

0:07:44 > 0:07:46He was brilliant, and I think in the right conditions

0:07:46 > 0:07:49he would have gone sub-11 seconds for sure.

0:07:49 > 0:07:52I mean, that event plays to his strengths.

0:07:52 > 0:07:56Power, acceleration. I think once he was into his running

0:07:56 > 0:07:59it was going to be difficult for anyone to catch him, even Mo Farah.

0:07:59 > 0:08:03The first event of superstars. Nerves?

0:08:03 > 0:08:06Yeah, very nervous and very cold.

0:08:06 > 0:08:08And what about the 100m? Have you done it before?

0:08:08 > 0:08:11No, and I'm thinking, "Why did I say yes to this?" right now?

0:08:11 > 0:08:13Really? But you're a powerful rower.

0:08:13 > 0:08:16I'm not quick. Well, we'll find out, we'll find out.

0:08:16 > 0:08:19And what about any judo technique? Can it help you here?

0:08:19 > 0:08:20Fast twitch fibres?

0:08:20 > 0:08:22I wish I'd done a bit more running in my career,

0:08:22 > 0:08:24but we'll have to see what I can do.

0:08:24 > 0:08:27But you're all fit, and the reason I'm coming to you last is,

0:08:27 > 0:08:28talking about fit and ready.

0:08:28 > 0:08:30Spikes, madam?

0:08:30 > 0:08:32Even Christine over there isn't wearing spikes.

0:08:32 > 0:08:33Does this mean you're good?

0:08:34 > 0:08:37Oh, yeah! No. We'll soon find out won't we?

0:08:37 > 0:08:38She's been giving it chat all morning.

0:08:38 > 0:08:41But, jokes aside, you're all getting on well, but it is serious, yeah?

0:08:41 > 0:08:44When that gun goes, I want to see some fierce battles, yeah?

0:08:44 > 0:08:45It's going to be ruthless.

0:08:45 > 0:08:46OK. Good luck ladies.

0:08:46 > 0:08:47Christine, you're smiling,

0:08:47 > 0:08:49but you're blatantly the favourite for this.

0:08:49 > 0:08:52Yeah, I mean, favourite but I've still got to run.

0:08:52 > 0:08:55I'm treating this as a, as a competition.

0:08:55 > 0:08:57But you've been so nice. You've been helping all your rivals.

0:08:57 > 0:09:00I've watched you, helping them set their blocks up.

0:09:00 > 0:09:02What's all that about?

0:09:02 > 0:09:05No, I think they've... It's quite, it looks quite daunting

0:09:05 > 0:09:08having to use blocks so just to get them started.

0:09:08 > 0:09:11And I gave them some tips on how to run, but, I mean, it's all...

0:09:11 > 0:09:14Hopefully they'll help me on something that I need help on.

0:09:14 > 0:09:15I don't think they will!

0:09:15 > 0:09:20Well, Christine will get serious in just a moment. There's the line-up.

0:09:29 > 0:09:32Well, showing all the experience of the former Olympic 400m title

0:09:32 > 0:09:35that she took so brilliantly,

0:09:35 > 0:09:38Christine Ohuruogu just settling into her blocks.

0:09:38 > 0:09:41Starts here as the favourite for this first women's event.

0:09:43 > 0:09:44Terrible conditions.

0:09:45 > 0:09:47STARTING GUN FIRES

0:09:47 > 0:09:48And they're all away cleanly,

0:09:48 > 0:09:52and Christine Ohuruogu's long legs just carrying her out there

0:09:52 > 0:09:54into an easy lead.

0:09:54 > 0:09:56Laura Bechtolsheimer's going well in second place,

0:09:56 > 0:09:59but Christine Ohuruogu it is

0:09:59 > 0:10:03that tears up the track and brings it home in first place.

0:10:03 > 0:10:06Jade Jones, it was, who took third place, just behind Laura.

0:10:10 > 0:10:13Well, she is such an elegant, yet deceptively powerful athlete.

0:10:15 > 0:10:16Nicola Adams there in the yellow

0:10:16 > 0:10:19just fading a little bit towards the end.

0:10:19 > 0:10:22But there's our 100m champion.

0:10:22 > 0:10:25Smiles all round for Christine Ohuruogu.

0:10:25 > 0:10:26Absolutely brilliant.

0:10:26 > 0:10:28And all the places and times confirmed.

0:10:37 > 0:10:40Christine, that was like a stride. I've known you a long time.

0:10:40 > 0:10:42You were just relaxing.

0:10:42 > 0:10:44I didn't want to have too much of a distance.

0:10:44 > 0:10:46Was it all right? You felt good?

0:10:46 > 0:10:47It was fine, it was fine.

0:10:47 > 0:10:49Are you ready for the next event, though?

0:10:49 > 0:10:51Has it taken too much out of you for your archery?

0:10:51 > 0:10:53No, I'm good to go. Always good to go.

0:10:53 > 0:10:56So we are under way. What a 100m to get us started.

0:10:56 > 0:10:58Those ladies did themselves proud.

0:10:58 > 0:11:01No surprise Christine Ohuruogu coming in first, looking easy.

0:11:01 > 0:11:05But second place, running under 14 seconds, Laura Bechtolsheimer.

0:11:05 > 0:11:06Where did that come from?

0:11:06 > 0:11:09Wasn't she good? She got out well and just kept relaxed,

0:11:09 > 0:11:12so she clearly has been doing some training, I think.

0:11:12 > 0:11:14Well, I had a little chat with her last night.

0:11:14 > 0:11:16She was being very, very modest

0:11:16 > 0:11:17but I think she could be an all-rounder.

0:11:17 > 0:11:19As I think will Jade Jones be.

0:11:19 > 0:11:22Coming in third there, looking confident, looking strong.

0:11:22 > 0:11:23Could be one to watch out for in the 800m.

0:11:23 > 0:11:25Could be one to watch out for.

0:11:25 > 0:11:28Again, you'd think that she's done some endurance work,

0:11:28 > 0:11:31but these girls are keeping their cards very close to their chests,

0:11:31 > 0:11:35so I don't know what's going to happen, but what a great start.

0:11:35 > 0:11:38So, Anthony Joshua and Christine Ohuruogu the early leaders

0:11:38 > 0:11:41with maximum points after the 100m.

0:11:41 > 0:11:45But it's time now to switch from pace and power to pure precision.

0:11:45 > 0:11:47It's time for the archery.

0:11:47 > 0:11:50Nicola, one event out of the way. Nice little 100m dash.

0:11:50 > 0:11:53This is different, though. Look at this set. That's nerve-racking.

0:11:53 > 0:11:56Ah, this looks pretty cool, actually. I'm looking forward to this one.

0:11:56 > 0:11:58No nerves at all?

0:11:58 > 0:12:00Everyone's watching, the spotlight's going to be on you.

0:12:00 > 0:12:02No, I'm feeling confident.

0:12:02 > 0:12:04I did pretty good in practice, so, you know,

0:12:04 > 0:12:06I'm feeling pretty good about this one.

0:12:08 > 0:12:10Well, Nicola certainly looks very relaxed,

0:12:10 > 0:12:13and she's going to get a good reception from the crowd here.

0:12:15 > 0:12:19Totally different thing, just lining yourself up

0:12:19 > 0:12:20in front of that target

0:12:20 > 0:12:23and competing in front of so many thousands of people

0:12:23 > 0:12:24in the Olympic Games where, of course,

0:12:24 > 0:12:28she won the women's boxing title.

0:12:28 > 0:12:31The very first women's Olympic boxing champion in history.

0:12:32 > 0:12:35Not a bad start. Steady. That scores 7.

0:12:38 > 0:12:40All the other competitors waiting.

0:12:40 > 0:12:44There's Christine Ohuruogu, winner of the 100m, in the background.

0:12:44 > 0:12:46A little better.

0:12:48 > 0:12:50Creeping closer and closer to the gold.

0:12:54 > 0:12:58I think she likes these pressure situations, does Nicola.

0:12:58 > 0:12:59What a great shot there!

0:13:06 > 0:13:07Looks relaxed.

0:13:10 > 0:13:12Oh, went a little bit astray on that one.

0:13:12 > 0:13:16Just scores seven, but nevertheless, this is good scoring.

0:13:16 > 0:13:18It certainly looks as though Nicola's

0:13:18 > 0:13:21going to rack up a good total here.

0:13:23 > 0:13:25So she goes into the lead.

0:13:25 > 0:13:2741 points, that is going to be tough to beat.

0:13:27 > 0:13:31Well, Lizzie Armitstead has sprayed her arrows all over the target

0:13:31 > 0:13:34coming into her last shot.

0:13:34 > 0:13:36And 32, her points total.

0:13:37 > 0:13:39Gemma Gibbons, of course, who scored highly in the 100m.

0:13:41 > 0:13:45She was on 28 going into the last arrow, and scored quite well,

0:13:45 > 0:13:49moving up to 36 points and second place overall.

0:13:51 > 0:13:53So here goes Christine Ohuruogu.

0:13:55 > 0:13:57What a career she's had.

0:13:57 > 0:14:00Olympic champion, World champion and this time, of course,

0:14:00 > 0:14:02an Olympic silver medal.

0:14:02 > 0:14:05That was a bit wild but scores 5.

0:14:05 > 0:14:07Nicola Adams, of course, clearly in the lead

0:14:07 > 0:14:09with that good total of 41 points.

0:14:12 > 0:14:15Christine just having a little bit of trouble there

0:14:15 > 0:14:17getting the arrow in the right position.

0:14:17 > 0:14:18Looks a bit tense.

0:14:19 > 0:14:22It's always interesting putting these athletes outside

0:14:22 > 0:14:25of their comfort zone, being watched by the great Mo Farah.

0:14:25 > 0:14:26That was better.

0:14:29 > 0:14:31You can almost feel the tension in the hall here.

0:14:33 > 0:14:35Christine on 13 points.

0:14:35 > 0:14:36Three arrows to go.

0:14:41 > 0:14:44Well, she is not wasting any time loosing that arrow.

0:14:46 > 0:14:48Coming onto 4 now, 21 points,

0:14:48 > 0:14:51needs two bull's-eyes if she's going to equal Nicola.

0:14:51 > 0:14:53Oh, look at that!

0:14:55 > 0:14:58That scores 9, so she can't win it

0:14:58 > 0:15:00but she could move into second place.

0:15:01 > 0:15:0430 points in total with one arrow to go.

0:15:04 > 0:15:06Oh, my goodness!

0:15:08 > 0:15:10That was on its way down to Bristol, I think!

0:15:12 > 0:15:14But at least we know who our winner is.

0:15:14 > 0:15:17Christine Ohuruogu scores 30 points altogether.

0:15:17 > 0:15:19Nicola Adams, certainly number one in the archery.

0:15:19 > 0:15:21Gemma Gibbons in second place,

0:15:21 > 0:15:23and Lizzie Armitstead, she got third.

0:15:25 > 0:15:28Oh, Christine, that last one!

0:15:28 > 0:15:31I know. That really stung because I really thought

0:15:31 > 0:15:33that I could've got a good score.

0:15:33 > 0:15:36Well, you only had to get a seven to get second place.

0:15:36 > 0:15:39I know, I know, not very happy with that.

0:15:39 > 0:15:42Well, you're doing all right, consistently all right. Don't worry.

0:15:42 > 0:15:43I know, but...

0:15:43 > 0:15:44Two events out of the way.

0:15:44 > 0:15:46You've won one and come fourth in the other.

0:15:46 > 0:15:47Last!

0:15:47 > 0:15:49All right, last. Wasn't quite enough.

0:15:49 > 0:15:53Nicola, it was enough for you, though. Fantastic, maximum points.

0:15:53 > 0:15:55Yeah, yeah. I had to win something.

0:15:55 > 0:15:57You think that's the only event you'll win?

0:15:57 > 0:16:00You've not got something in your locker for later on?

0:16:00 > 0:16:02Um, yeah, maybe. Possibly the gym test.

0:16:02 > 0:16:05I think I should be pretty good at that, but you never know, do you?

0:16:05 > 0:16:07Well, well done. That's a great result.

0:16:07 > 0:16:08Thank you.

0:16:17 > 0:16:19So we pull our athletes out of two events each,

0:16:19 > 0:16:22including the event that's either their own or the one closest to it,

0:16:22 > 0:16:25which means, Pete Wilson, no archery for you today.

0:16:25 > 0:16:27The ladies' competition, though,

0:16:27 > 0:16:29something of a surprise to quite a lot of people around here

0:16:29 > 0:16:32that Nicola Adams had so much focus, so much precision.

0:16:32 > 0:16:34Yeah, she was absolutely fantastic.

0:16:34 > 0:16:36Absolutely amazing considering she had such little practice

0:16:36 > 0:16:38coming into this, so well done to her.

0:16:38 > 0:16:41Is it easier then to pick out which sports are going to be good,

0:16:41 > 0:16:43because she's got such a dynamic sport,

0:16:43 > 0:16:46that, you know, it's so high octane, one necessarily wouldn't think

0:16:46 > 0:16:48that would make you a good archery expert.

0:16:48 > 0:16:51I think everyone here is such incredible athletes across the board.

0:16:51 > 0:16:54I mean, look at Anthony Joshua, he blitzed the 100m

0:16:54 > 0:16:56and that was incredible, absolutely incredible.

0:16:56 > 0:16:58You want to talk about the 100m?

0:16:58 > 0:17:01I would love to talk about the 100m. I am so chuffed, so chuffed.

0:17:01 > 0:17:03You didn't come last, you didn't come second to last.

0:17:03 > 0:17:05You beat Alistair Brownlee.

0:17:05 > 0:17:08I came third last, which I am so pleased about.

0:17:08 > 0:17:10I am just, I'm so stoked.

0:17:10 > 0:17:12Now, listen, the guys taking part in the archery,

0:17:12 > 0:17:13looking at them now,

0:17:13 > 0:17:17who would you say is going to finish top of the tree?

0:17:17 > 0:17:20It's so difficult. They've had such little time to practice, as I said.

0:17:20 > 0:17:22And it is a mental game.

0:17:22 > 0:17:24I would put it down as...

0:17:24 > 0:17:26I'm going to put it down as Mo Farah.

0:17:26 > 0:17:28I'm going to put it down as Mo.

0:17:28 > 0:17:30I've changed from earlier, having talked about it with you briefly

0:17:30 > 0:17:33and that's just because, I haven't seen him compete,

0:17:33 > 0:17:35but someone said to me earlier that he was fairly good.

0:17:35 > 0:17:37He was fairly handy with a bow.

0:17:37 > 0:17:39I think he was a bit destroyed coming third in the 100m, as well.

0:17:39 > 0:17:42I don't think he was too happy about that. So I think he might be

0:17:42 > 0:17:45a bit of a devil. I think we could see quite an interesting line-up.

0:17:45 > 0:17:47Let's see. Iwan Thomas is with the chaps now.

0:17:47 > 0:17:50Thanks, Gabby. Right, Mo, I don't know if you heard that

0:17:50 > 0:17:54but Pete up there has singled you out as the man for this archery.

0:17:54 > 0:17:55I'm not sure about that, mate.

0:17:55 > 0:17:58It's all good in practice, but you've got to put it in here,

0:17:58 > 0:18:01so I reckon the Brownlee boys have got a good shout, too.

0:18:01 > 0:18:03I mean, you're all here because you're amazing athletes,

0:18:03 > 0:18:06but you have something good up there, you can control the nerves.

0:18:06 > 0:18:07- You reckon?- Yeah, I know you.

0:18:07 > 0:18:11I'm very laid-back, so I don't know if that will help but we'll see.

0:18:11 > 0:18:14He's a steely competitor, as well.

0:18:14 > 0:18:16Alistair Brownlee scored pretty well,

0:18:16 > 0:18:19moving up to 42 points with his last arrow which scored eight.

0:18:22 > 0:18:25Then his brother, Jonny Brownlee, was some way behind.

0:18:25 > 0:18:28He could only score four with his last arrow

0:18:28 > 0:18:29so that was only 35 points.

0:18:31 > 0:18:35Huge reception for the double Olympic champion.

0:18:36 > 0:18:39And as soon as the competition starts,

0:18:39 > 0:18:42all the joking and laughing just finishes and...

0:18:44 > 0:18:45Mo just having a bit of a problem there,

0:18:45 > 0:18:49just as Christine Ohuruogu did when she started warming up.

0:18:51 > 0:18:52First arrow for Mo.

0:18:53 > 0:18:54Not bad, eight points.

0:18:56 > 0:18:59Knows he needs to do a little bit better.

0:18:59 > 0:19:02Alistair Brownlee it is who's still in the lead with 42.

0:19:03 > 0:19:06But nine there, just squeezed into the nine.

0:19:08 > 0:19:09Arrow number three for Mo.

0:19:11 > 0:19:12Just a little bit wide.

0:19:15 > 0:19:17Needs to get some in close to the gold.

0:19:20 > 0:19:22Fourth attempt for Mo Farah, straight into the middle!

0:19:24 > 0:19:26Archers know that is called the spider.

0:19:27 > 0:19:29Dead centre.

0:19:29 > 0:19:33Last arrow, needs a 9 to go into lead and just gets it.

0:19:33 > 0:19:35He goes into the lead by one, 43 points.

0:19:38 > 0:19:40Michael Jamieson now.

0:19:40 > 0:19:44What a score he's got to beat, 43 points by Mo Farah.

0:19:44 > 0:19:47Alistair Brownlee, 42 in second place.

0:19:48 > 0:19:50Those guys really did compete well.

0:19:51 > 0:19:53So, Michael, first arrow.

0:19:57 > 0:19:58Hard it goes, drives into the target.

0:19:58 > 0:20:01That is a 9 to start with.

0:20:01 > 0:20:03A little confident smile there from Michael Jamieson.

0:20:05 > 0:20:08Draws the bow back slowly. Good release.

0:20:08 > 0:20:11Nine points again, two nines in a row.

0:20:13 > 0:20:15Well, he's certainly getting his eye in.

0:20:17 > 0:20:21If he keeps on at this sort of rate he's going to go into the lead.

0:20:23 > 0:20:24Oh, he's getting better.

0:20:27 > 0:20:29That is a ten, right in the heart of the gold.

0:20:32 > 0:20:35So nine, nine and a ten so far with his first three arrows.

0:20:40 > 0:20:44And another one, almost matching Mo Farah with his fourth arrow.

0:20:47 > 0:20:48So 38 points already.

0:20:48 > 0:20:50Just needs six to go into the lead

0:20:50 > 0:20:54and at this rate he's going to amass a big total here.

0:20:59 > 0:21:0046 points altogether.

0:21:00 > 0:21:02That was his lowest-scoring arrow,

0:21:04 > 0:21:07but Michael Jamieson wins the archery comfortably.

0:21:12 > 0:21:14Well, you're in yellow, but clearly it should be green.

0:21:14 > 0:21:16A right Robin Hood. 46!

0:21:16 > 0:21:18Yeah, I think there was a bit of beginner's luck there.

0:21:18 > 0:21:22Definitely wasn't producing that sort of form on the warm-up arena, so...

0:21:22 > 0:21:25Yeah, a bit different doing it down here. A bit more pressure

0:21:25 > 0:21:27and I was shaking like a leaf up there

0:21:27 > 0:21:29so I'm not sure where that came from.

0:21:29 > 0:21:31Well, I can tell you. Not only did you win that event,

0:21:31 > 0:21:34you've actually equalled the Superstars record which was

0:21:34 > 0:21:37Tony Underwood back in the day, so awesome.

0:21:37 > 0:21:39Ah, nice one. Yeah, happy about that.

0:21:39 > 0:21:40This was a bit of a bonus event.

0:21:40 > 0:21:44I didn't expect to pick up any points here, but no, all good fun.

0:21:44 > 0:21:47And the rest of the guys were all pretty good beforehand,

0:21:47 > 0:21:50so definitely beginner's luck there.

0:22:01 > 0:22:03Still to come on Superstars 2012,

0:22:03 > 0:22:05someone gets a soaking in the kayak.

0:22:07 > 0:22:10The Brownlees renew their sibling rivalry on the track

0:22:10 > 0:22:12over 800 metres.

0:22:14 > 0:22:16And there's some serious sinew straining

0:22:16 > 0:22:18in the dreaded Superstars gym tests.

0:22:23 > 0:22:25Time for the kayak now,

0:22:25 > 0:22:27and there's a bit of a twist in the tail in this event.

0:22:27 > 0:22:29Denise, what's the story?

0:22:29 > 0:22:30For this year's kayak event,

0:22:30 > 0:22:33we've decided to add a little bit more jeopardy.

0:22:33 > 0:22:36Well, after all, it is an Olympic year.

0:22:36 > 0:22:39Our Superstars will have to make their way around the two buoys

0:22:39 > 0:22:42making a figure of eight and then head back down

0:22:42 > 0:22:44towards the finishing line.

0:22:44 > 0:22:48The fastest two times will make it through to the final.

0:22:48 > 0:22:50This is not only about speed, but it's about rhythm.

0:22:50 > 0:22:52Well, it's almost time for the men

0:22:52 > 0:22:54to start paddling their little hearts out.

0:22:54 > 0:22:57We've got another of our gold medal winning rowers here

0:22:57 > 0:23:00who's not going to count but you are taking part.

0:23:00 > 0:23:02Explain, Andrew Triggs Hodge.

0:23:02 > 0:23:05So, yeah, Jonny doesn't have a competitor in this race,

0:23:05 > 0:23:07so I've been asked to step forward

0:23:07 > 0:23:10and play the role of that rabbit that he's going to aim to catch.

0:23:10 > 0:23:13So hopefully I can fulfil that role and stay in front of him,

0:23:13 > 0:23:15but he's been pretty fast in training so we'll see what he can do.

0:23:23 > 0:23:26And Alan Bell getting proceedings under way.

0:23:27 > 0:23:29And as this first heat started,

0:23:29 > 0:23:32all the competitors knew it was the fastest time that would take them

0:23:32 > 0:23:34through to the final.

0:23:34 > 0:23:39And Alistair Brownlee it was, who showed first and Michael Jamieson,

0:23:39 > 0:23:42as he tried to make that first turn, capsized,

0:23:42 > 0:23:44so that was the end of his challenge.

0:23:44 > 0:23:46Disappointment for the current leader.

0:23:47 > 0:23:50And Alistair Brownlee it was,

0:23:50 > 0:23:52who's coming away in a superb time of 54.71.

0:23:54 > 0:23:58Next up it was Jonny Brownlee who is up against Andy Triggs Hodge

0:23:58 > 0:23:59who would act as his hare.

0:24:01 > 0:24:03And in the end it was Jonny Brownlee

0:24:03 > 0:24:07who was comfortably round that first turn in first place.

0:24:07 > 0:24:11Andy Triggs Hodge, of course, excluded from this event.

0:24:11 > 0:24:13Determined to make the final alongside his brother

0:24:13 > 0:24:18who'd already set the standard with 54.71 seconds.

0:24:18 > 0:24:20It certainly looked as if Jonny Brownlee was headed

0:24:20 > 0:24:22for the final two.

0:24:22 > 0:24:2359 seconds dead.

0:24:24 > 0:24:27Andy Triggs Hodge taking a bath.

0:24:27 > 0:24:28Guys, you are the last heat.

0:24:28 > 0:24:30I'm buzzing for you because I can tell you,

0:24:30 > 0:24:32if you can go under a minute, then you'll make that final.

0:24:32 > 0:24:33Is it possible?

0:24:33 > 0:24:36Everything is possible. This man's going down, I'm telling you.

0:24:36 > 0:24:38Well, you may say that, but listen,

0:24:38 > 0:24:40already today you've taken a scalp in a running event

0:24:40 > 0:24:41of an Olympic champion.

0:24:41 > 0:24:43You took one of the Brownlee brothers.

0:24:43 > 0:24:44You schooled him on that 100m.

0:24:44 > 0:24:46Can you take out Mo in the water?

0:24:46 > 0:24:48I'm ready for you, Mo. I'm ready for you.

0:24:48 > 0:24:50We're going to do this. Let's get this on like Donkey Kong, my friend.

0:24:52 > 0:24:55Well, there was certainly a good bit of banter there right at the start

0:24:55 > 0:24:57for Peter Wilson and Mo Farah.

0:24:57 > 0:25:03Mo Farah got away to a dreadful start, going round in circles.

0:25:03 > 0:25:06He couldn't really make it over the start line.

0:25:06 > 0:25:08Peter Wilson must have been safe in the knowledge that

0:25:08 > 0:25:11providing he kept going at a reasonable pace,

0:25:11 > 0:25:13he had a chance of qualifying for the final.

0:25:16 > 0:25:17The crowd were loving this.

0:25:17 > 0:25:21Poor old Mo Farah was still going round in circles.

0:25:21 > 0:25:24Peter Wilson went right off course

0:25:24 > 0:25:26as he was heading towards the last turn.

0:25:26 > 0:25:29Trying to get on dry land, I'm not sure that was in the rules.

0:25:32 > 0:25:36And Peter by now knew his chance of qualifying for the final

0:25:36 > 0:25:38had gone totally.

0:25:38 > 0:25:43But the Mobot was what everybody was watching at this point.

0:25:43 > 0:25:47Peter Wilson back on course, winning this heat but not doing enough.

0:25:48 > 0:25:511.33 was his time, well outside qualifying.

0:25:53 > 0:25:55Meanwhile, the Mo Farah saga continued.

0:25:57 > 0:25:59Still having problems with getting that boat to go

0:25:59 > 0:26:01in the right direction.

0:26:02 > 0:26:04Everybody was cheering the great runner.

0:26:05 > 0:26:08And Mo himself was having a bit of a laugh.

0:26:08 > 0:26:11He did finish eventually, well outside three minutes.

0:26:12 > 0:26:15But you got the impression there was a little private battle going on

0:26:15 > 0:26:19as well between Peter Wilson and Mo Farah.

0:26:30 > 0:26:32And so it was over to the women.

0:26:32 > 0:26:36Our first heat featured Jade Jones up against Christine Ohuruogu.

0:26:38 > 0:26:42And when Alan Bell got them under way it was Christine Ohuruogu

0:26:42 > 0:26:44who didn't get away to a particularly good start.

0:26:44 > 0:26:47Jade Jones was a little bit faster.

0:26:50 > 0:26:53And Christine Ohuruogu eventually getting things on track

0:26:53 > 0:26:55as Jade Jones made the first turn.

0:26:57 > 0:27:00And Jade, at this point, was comfortably ahead.

0:27:00 > 0:27:03Christine Ohuruogu laughing all the way,

0:27:03 > 0:27:06as are her fellow team-mates from the sidelines.

0:27:07 > 0:27:10Just wishing that she finishes without taking a ducking

0:27:10 > 0:27:13and are glad that it's not them in there.

0:27:13 > 0:27:16And Jade Jones it was, who came away towards the finish line,

0:27:16 > 0:27:19eventually finishing in 1.35.63.

0:27:21 > 0:27:25And Christine Ohuruogu was all over the place at this point.

0:27:25 > 0:27:28But Jade Jones heading towards the great 400m runner,

0:27:28 > 0:27:30almost ramming her.

0:27:30 > 0:27:32And at this point, Christine Ohuruogu thinking

0:27:32 > 0:27:36dry land is definitely the best place for me.

0:27:38 > 0:27:40Jade, I'll be honest, that wasn't pretty. It was tough, wasn't it?

0:27:40 > 0:27:42Yeah, it was really tough.

0:27:42 > 0:27:44It's harder than it looks and hard to, like, coordinate yourself

0:27:44 > 0:27:46and it was really hard, wasn't it?

0:27:46 > 0:27:48The good news is you had crossed the line

0:27:48 > 0:27:51- before you kind of capsized, so.. - Did I?

0:27:51 > 0:27:53Yeah, so it's all good, it's all good.

0:28:00 > 0:28:04After the start, it was very close to the first turn.

0:28:04 > 0:28:05Nicola Adams was just in the lead,

0:28:05 > 0:28:10but finding steering a little bit difficult.

0:28:10 > 0:28:13Gemma Gibbons eventually got back on track too,

0:28:13 > 0:28:15but she almost came a cropper.

0:28:16 > 0:28:19And eventually Nicola Adams made the turn first,

0:28:19 > 0:28:23trying to beat the time of Jade Jones, 1.35.63.

0:28:25 > 0:28:26In the end,

0:28:26 > 0:28:29she was just outside of that with a time of round about 1.40.

0:28:31 > 0:28:34Almost crossing the line backwards, there.

0:28:42 > 0:28:47So, Lizzie Armitstead nearest the camera,

0:28:47 > 0:28:51neck and neck with Laura and all to go for,

0:28:51 > 0:28:55the leading time so far, 1.35.63,

0:28:55 > 0:28:58still held by Jade Jones from that first heat.

0:28:58 > 0:29:01But by the time both competitors made the last turn,

0:29:01 > 0:29:05two things were certain. It was very fast, especially for Laura

0:29:05 > 0:29:08who crossed the line first, but also Lizzie might

0:29:08 > 0:29:10have gone round the course the wrong way.

0:29:10 > 0:29:13There would be an enquiry.

0:29:13 > 0:29:15So I've just had an official word from our referee

0:29:15 > 0:29:18here at Superstars and unfortunately it's not great news.

0:29:18 > 0:29:21Lizzie, you went the wrong way round the buoy.

0:29:21 > 0:29:23- You're joking me. - You've been disqualified.

0:29:23 > 0:29:24Which buoy did I go round wrong?

0:29:24 > 0:29:28Um, it was the final buoy, I believe. You turned the wrong way.

0:29:28 > 0:29:30Devastated. I can't believe it.

0:29:30 > 0:29:32I'm really sorry to be the one to bring you that bad news.

0:29:45 > 0:29:47And Laura going into the final up against Jade

0:29:47 > 0:29:51with by far and away the best time we've seen so far.

0:29:52 > 0:29:55So Laura gets it under way nearest the camera.

0:29:58 > 0:30:02She was the only athlete getting close to the one minute barrier

0:30:03 > 0:30:05and already, Jade Jones going awry.

0:30:07 > 0:30:10So Laura making that first turn, still looking a little bit nervous.

0:30:12 > 0:30:14They've had a little while in these paddle boats now

0:30:14 > 0:30:18to get used to them, to get used to the course, as well.

0:30:18 > 0:30:22But, for some reason, Jade Jones is all over the place

0:30:22 > 0:30:27and Laura, coming away to what could be a maximum ten points for her.

0:30:29 > 0:30:31And as Laura makes no mistake with that last turn,

0:30:34 > 0:30:37she's headed towards ten points and victory

0:30:37 > 0:30:39and certainly enjoying herself in the water,

0:30:39 > 0:30:41getting better and better as time went on.

0:30:41 > 0:30:43Lovely moment.

0:30:44 > 0:30:47And there we are, second place for Jade Jones,

0:30:47 > 0:30:50and a big, big smile as always. Well done.

0:31:00 > 0:31:03You said before that was the one event, you could win it

0:31:03 > 0:31:04and you've done it.

0:31:04 > 0:31:05I had no idea before I got in the kayak

0:31:05 > 0:31:08that this was going to be my event, but thank God for kayaking.

0:31:08 > 0:31:11But both in the heats and the final you were very consistent.

0:31:11 > 0:31:12You were really good.

0:31:12 > 0:31:14It must be sort of balance from riding or something,

0:31:14 > 0:31:16I don't know, but yes, ten points.

0:31:16 > 0:31:18It's going to be the only one I get ten points in, so...

0:31:18 > 0:31:21Well, well done. You have done very well. Very well indeed.

0:31:22 > 0:31:25Well, how's this for a match up in the final of the men's competition?

0:31:25 > 0:31:28Alistair Brownlee up against his brother Jonny.

0:31:28 > 0:31:30Alistair nearest the camera.

0:31:32 > 0:31:37Olympic champion up against World champion in triathlon.

0:31:37 > 0:31:38What a pairing they are.

0:31:40 > 0:31:42Certainly, when it comes to competition,

0:31:42 > 0:31:44they each want to beat each other

0:31:44 > 0:31:48and they support each other so, so well, too, during training

0:31:48 > 0:31:51and competition on the road, on the bike and in the swimming pool.

0:31:53 > 0:31:55But Alistair really blasting down this lane,

0:31:55 > 0:31:57Jonny desperately trying to stay in touch.

0:31:59 > 0:32:01One more turn to make.

0:32:01 > 0:32:04Alistair there, just adjusting which way he goes round that final buoy.

0:32:05 > 0:32:08Maybe a problem on the far side for Jonny.

0:32:08 > 0:32:10Ah, he's stuck, and he's under!

0:32:10 > 0:32:12That will mean disqualification,

0:32:12 > 0:32:16and that means maximum points for Alistair Brownlee.

0:32:16 > 0:32:19He knows it. That really has put one over on his brother.

0:32:21 > 0:32:25Not only did you beat your little brother, he got a soaking as well.

0:32:25 > 0:32:27I know. I think I messed up coming back here

0:32:27 > 0:32:30and I thought I screwed it all up, and then I heard the massive cheering

0:32:30 > 0:32:32and looked round and saw he'd fallen in, so...

0:32:32 > 0:32:35Jonny, without stirring it up, the grin on his face

0:32:35 > 0:32:37when you went in the water, that's out of order, surely.

0:32:37 > 0:32:40That is a bit out of order. I'd have done the same, though.

0:32:40 > 0:32:42But, yeah, I messed up that buoy a little bit.

0:32:42 > 0:32:45I went round the wrong side of it and there's no going back then.

0:32:54 > 0:32:58Well, just proving that we are filming this in England,

0:32:58 > 0:33:01the weather is absolutely teeming, it's horrid,

0:33:01 > 0:33:03and the 800m is horrible anyway.

0:33:03 > 0:33:06You used to run it, of course, at the end of the heptathlon.

0:33:06 > 0:33:09It always looked like an absolute pain.

0:33:09 > 0:33:12You've summed it up nicely, Gabby. It was awful.

0:33:12 > 0:33:15You know, it's more like a long distance sprint.

0:33:15 > 0:33:18You know, you've got to go out confidently,

0:33:18 > 0:33:21but the important thing is really to leave something in the tank

0:33:21 > 0:33:25that you can actually bring it home and not really suffer too much.

0:33:25 > 0:33:27But it's going to be tough in these conditions.

0:33:27 > 0:33:29Well, it is, because they don't really know do they,

0:33:29 > 0:33:31these non-runners,

0:33:31 > 0:33:33how to gauge themselves and what is pacing for an 800m.

0:33:33 > 0:33:35Would you advise them to stick close,

0:33:35 > 0:33:37stick on each others' shoulders?

0:33:37 > 0:33:39I think definitely the girls, because it's so hard to call

0:33:39 > 0:33:42who might actually have the edge.

0:33:42 > 0:33:44I think their best bet is to run as a pack,

0:33:44 > 0:33:49and then 200m from home maybe just go for it.

0:33:49 > 0:33:51Now we saw, of course, Laura surprise us all in the 100m.

0:33:51 > 0:33:53Do you think she's got it for the 800?

0:33:53 > 0:33:56See, I really do fancy Laura for this.

0:33:56 > 0:33:58She seems to be quite confident.

0:33:58 > 0:34:00She's keeping her cards really close to her chest,

0:34:00 > 0:34:02but I do think she might have something in the tank.

0:34:02 > 0:34:05Um, I think the events that tend to lend themselves

0:34:05 > 0:34:09to running a decent 800 are the ones with a bit of endurance,

0:34:09 > 0:34:12but also a cross-over with a bit of speed as well.

0:34:12 > 0:34:14OK, let's see. Iwan is with them now.

0:34:14 > 0:34:17So Laura, another running event and you surprised a few people

0:34:17 > 0:34:20in that 100m, so the 800... Your stamina good?

0:34:20 > 0:34:22Sadly not as much, but I was hoping to do,

0:34:22 > 0:34:25secretly hoping to do quite well in the 100m,

0:34:25 > 0:34:26because I did a bit of that

0:34:26 > 0:34:30when I was younger, but 800 is not so much fun, I don't think.

0:34:30 > 0:34:32So what's your tactic in this?

0:34:32 > 0:34:34Um, good question.

0:34:34 > 0:34:36Er, run as fast as I can for as long as I can

0:34:36 > 0:34:38and then try not to throw up at the end.

0:34:38 > 0:34:41Just dream you've got your horse with you when it starts to hurt

0:34:41 > 0:34:43and just take yourself somewhere nice.

0:34:43 > 0:34:45Now, someone who needs to go somewhere nice,

0:34:45 > 0:34:47sorry to remind you, Katherine, but no points as of yet.

0:34:47 > 0:34:50Are you suggesting somewhere nice as in leave the country?

0:34:50 > 0:34:51Is that what you're saying?

0:34:51 > 0:34:53I want to see you on that leaderboard.

0:34:53 > 0:34:55I would love to be on it.

0:34:55 > 0:34:56You've scored nothing.

0:34:56 > 0:34:57Well, I've tried to get a point,

0:34:57 > 0:34:59but the track's not been my friend so far.

0:34:59 > 0:35:02You never know, maybe the 800 will become my distance.

0:35:03 > 0:35:05The conditions are going to be absolutely brutal.

0:35:05 > 0:35:07There's the line-up.

0:35:17 > 0:35:21There are six very nervous athletes under way now.

0:35:21 > 0:35:23Katherine Grainger right on the inside.

0:35:23 > 0:35:27The first 100m or so have got to be run in lanes,

0:35:27 > 0:35:28then they break for the inside.

0:35:33 > 0:35:36And already, Jade Jones way ahead of everybody else,

0:35:36 > 0:35:38Nicola Adams right in the centre.

0:35:40 > 0:35:44Helen Glover it is who's chasing Jade Jones at the moment,

0:35:44 > 0:35:45and they've set off at quite a pace.

0:35:47 > 0:35:50These two are certainly stretching away through the first 200m.

0:35:51 > 0:35:54Nicola Adams just in third place at the moment.

0:35:56 > 0:35:59But there's about a 5 metre gap between second and third.

0:36:01 > 0:36:05Katherine Grainger, the tall figure there in the blue.

0:36:09 > 0:36:12And as they come through to take the bell, Jade Jones it is...

0:36:14 > 0:36:16..the tae kwon do specialist...

0:36:16 > 0:36:20looking very bouncy on her toes and looking comfortable, too.

0:36:20 > 0:36:23They've gone through in around 74 seconds.

0:36:23 > 0:36:24This is good.

0:36:24 > 0:36:27All the men, they will have their chance in just a minute.

0:36:27 > 0:36:29Christine Ohuruogu is there too,

0:36:29 > 0:36:33who, of course, has been prevented from competing in this event.

0:36:33 > 0:36:35And Helen Glover for the first time takes the lead.

0:36:35 > 0:36:37She strode past Jade Jones.

0:36:39 > 0:36:42Adjusting her vest there but she looks full of running,

0:36:42 > 0:36:43does Helen Glover.

0:36:43 > 0:36:49Jade Jones keeping good pace ahead of the third place athlete.

0:36:49 > 0:36:50Lizzie Armitstead in fourth place.

0:36:50 > 0:36:52Katherine Grainger back in fifth.

0:36:55 > 0:36:59And poor old Laura is really struggling at the back of the field.

0:36:59 > 0:37:00It hurts.

0:37:00 > 0:37:02But not for Helen Glover.

0:37:04 > 0:37:06She's stretched away from Jade Jones now

0:37:06 > 0:37:09and Lizzie Armitstead has moved through into third place,

0:37:09 > 0:37:12so good points for Lizzie Armitstead,

0:37:12 > 0:37:15but Helen Glover will come through to take victory,

0:37:15 > 0:37:19and the time, 2:24:77.

0:37:19 > 0:37:22Helen Glover, the best 800m runner on display.

0:37:22 > 0:37:24Jade Jones is in second place.

0:37:26 > 0:37:28Good points for her, too.

0:37:28 > 0:37:30And then Lizzie Armitstead comes through.

0:37:30 > 0:37:34Katherine Grainger, her best result so far, ahead of Nicola Adams.

0:37:36 > 0:37:41Very good points for Helen Glover, and there is Laura Bechtolsheimer

0:37:44 > 0:37:47really suffering back in sixth place. That was hard.

0:37:50 > 0:37:53Well, Helen Glover took the lead with 300m to go and she looked

0:37:53 > 0:37:57absolutely superb for the remainder of that lap.

0:37:57 > 0:37:59Maximum points, her first victory in Superstars.

0:38:09 > 0:38:12Now, I've read up on you. You were a good runner as a junior, so...

0:38:12 > 0:38:15Yeah, I did, when I was really young,

0:38:15 > 0:38:16some national cross country's,

0:38:16 > 0:38:18but I haven't run for a really long time

0:38:18 > 0:38:20so I really enjoyed that.

0:38:20 > 0:38:22I can't remember the last time I actually went running, you know,

0:38:22 > 0:38:23so it was really nice.

0:38:23 > 0:38:25Tactically, you were really good.

0:38:25 > 0:38:27You sat on Jade's shoulder, you bided your time

0:38:27 > 0:38:30and then down the back straight your stride length just opened up

0:38:30 > 0:38:32and you looked like a proper, proper runner.

0:38:32 > 0:38:34It's because I had no idea how to pace the first lap

0:38:34 > 0:38:36because I hadn't done it before so I was like,

0:38:36 > 0:38:39"Oh, Jade's gone out fast so I'll try to jog along behind,"

0:38:39 > 0:38:42and I thought, "Yeah, I may as well just kind of go early."

0:38:52 > 0:38:55Helen Glover in that 800m left the field standing.

0:38:55 > 0:38:59She was brilliant, and I said this race was going to be about tactics,

0:38:59 > 0:39:02about confidence, and Helen had the package.

0:39:02 > 0:39:07She set out, set her stall, and literally kept her form going.

0:39:07 > 0:39:09You could've run it one of two ways.

0:39:09 > 0:39:12You could've stayed in the pack and just gone for that big sprint finish.

0:39:12 > 0:39:13But not Helen.

0:39:13 > 0:39:16She was confident, determined and great form.

0:39:16 > 0:39:18Your other pick, Laura B.

0:39:18 > 0:39:22How does somebody run 100m as she did and then the 800m not so?

0:39:23 > 0:39:26I think she needed a horse. Don't you reckon?

0:39:26 > 0:39:30She clearly wasn't up for that. She wasn't feeling it and wow.

0:39:30 > 0:39:32Just shows you the difference with the endurance,

0:39:32 > 0:39:35and speaking of which, it's the men's race next. No Mo Farah,

0:39:35 > 0:39:38but, of course, it is Brownlee versus Brownlee.

0:39:38 > 0:39:39Thanks, Gabby.

0:39:39 > 0:39:40Well, I'm with the brothers right now.

0:39:40 > 0:39:43You're the two men who are going to be chased.

0:39:43 > 0:39:45Jonny, this is your ball game, isn't it, the 800m?

0:39:45 > 0:39:46It's slightly more favourable to us.

0:39:46 > 0:39:49It's a bit more of an endurance event. I'm looking forward to it.

0:39:49 > 0:39:52It's a long time since I've run an 800m, but it's cold out here

0:39:52 > 0:39:53and we've got good support.

0:39:53 > 0:39:56Should be good, but, yeah, everyone keeps surprising me.

0:39:56 > 0:39:58Michael surprised me in the archery so we'll see.

0:39:58 > 0:40:00What about the crowd? Do you hear that? "Give us a wave!"

0:40:00 > 0:40:02They love you. What's it like, that support?

0:40:02 > 0:40:05It's brilliant having all these people here.

0:40:05 > 0:40:07It's an absolutely terrible day here in Bath

0:40:07 > 0:40:10and it's fantastic to see so many people out

0:40:10 > 0:40:12to watch us run an 800m terribly.

0:40:12 > 0:40:15The terraces are absolutely packed for this 800m.

0:40:15 > 0:40:16There's the line-up -

0:40:16 > 0:40:19Jamieson, Triggs Hodge, then the two Brownlee brothers,

0:40:19 > 0:40:22Joshua, Grabarz and finally Peter Wilson.

0:40:22 > 0:40:23On your marks!

0:40:25 > 0:40:28There certainly is a good atmosphere here.

0:40:28 > 0:40:29STARTING GUN FIRES

0:40:29 > 0:40:30Away we go.

0:40:31 > 0:40:35Well, the two Brownlee brothers have gone off very quickly indeed.

0:40:35 > 0:40:38- Mo, who's your money on? - Definitely the Brownlee brothers -

0:40:38 > 0:40:41they've more experience and everything else.

0:40:41 > 0:40:43As long as they pace themselves,

0:40:43 > 0:40:45they're definitely one and two for sure.

0:40:45 > 0:40:47But it just depends who's going to finish first.

0:40:47 > 0:40:51Already, in the first sort of 120m, they're already out.

0:40:51 > 0:40:54Oh, yeah, they've taken that as you can see.

0:40:54 > 0:40:56Single file, really.

0:40:56 > 0:40:59Well, it's Jonny Brownlee who's making the pace at the moment.

0:40:59 > 0:41:01followed very, very closely by Alistair.

0:41:01 > 0:41:04Anthony Joshua has moved into third place,

0:41:04 > 0:41:05just ahead of Robbie Grabarz.

0:41:05 > 0:41:08But these two are a class apart.

0:41:08 > 0:41:11Wonderful triathletes, good on the track,

0:41:11 > 0:41:14and Jonny Brownlee it is who's showing everybody

0:41:14 > 0:41:15what 800m running is all about.

0:41:15 > 0:41:20Anthony Joshua labouring a little bit in third place.

0:41:20 > 0:41:22Come on, boys.

0:41:22 > 0:41:24They're digging in. They look easy.

0:41:24 > 0:41:27I know. Jonathan's... Jonathan just in the lead there

0:41:27 > 0:41:29but do you think Alistair's going to let him win this one?

0:41:29 > 0:41:32I don't know. Alistair doesn't like losing,

0:41:32 > 0:41:33so Alistair's just sitting on him.

0:41:33 > 0:41:35It's easy if you're sitting on someone

0:41:35 > 0:41:38and it comes down to 200m to go - you can go past them.

0:41:38 > 0:41:40Well, we'll have to wait and see.

0:41:40 > 0:41:45Alistair is in the perfect position to strike here if he wants to.

0:41:45 > 0:41:47But Jonny has gone off at such a pace,

0:41:47 > 0:41:49you just wonder how much Alistair's got left.

0:41:49 > 0:41:54Still Jonny Brownlee in the lead, Alistair poised -

0:41:54 > 0:41:56what has he got left?

0:41:56 > 0:41:59Anthony Joshua way, way back in third place.

0:41:59 > 0:42:02And now this is going to be very tough indeed.

0:42:02 > 0:42:04The last 150.

0:42:04 > 0:42:06And Alistair's still not quite there yet, is he?

0:42:06 > 0:42:10I think he's going to kick again with the last 100m to go.

0:42:10 > 0:42:12- All to go for. - Yeah, yeah, here he is. I told you.

0:42:12 > 0:42:16He's coming, he's coming. Go on, boys! It's a close one!

0:42:16 > 0:42:19Well, Mo Farah read that race perfectly.

0:42:19 > 0:42:23Alistair Brownlee just ahead of his brother, Jonny.

0:42:23 > 0:42:27It's a procession of the Brownlee brothers across the line.

0:42:27 > 0:42:31Congratulations to both of them. They put on a superb display.

0:42:31 > 0:42:34Anthony Joshua obviously likes this track.

0:42:34 > 0:42:37He won the 100m comfortably ahead of Robbie Grabarz,

0:42:37 > 0:42:41who's just fading away from fourth place.

0:42:41 > 0:42:46Joshua gets third place and Grabarz just manages to find something

0:42:46 > 0:42:50to finish in fourth ahead of Michael Jamieson.

0:42:50 > 0:42:51That was hard.

0:42:51 > 0:42:55Andy Triggs Hodge, nursing a quadriceps injury,

0:42:55 > 0:42:56finishes in sixth.

0:42:59 > 0:43:01And there goes Peter Wilson,

0:43:01 > 0:43:05valiantly finishing his two laps, finishing outside of three minutes

0:43:05 > 0:43:07but gets a huge cheer from the crowd.

0:43:08 > 0:43:12I'm not sure how he's got the energy to smile but he has finished.

0:43:12 > 0:43:13But there is our winner.

0:43:14 > 0:43:17Just a fraction of a second covering the first two.

0:43:17 > 0:43:20What a great display of 800m running.

0:43:22 > 0:43:23The Brownlees in the points once more -

0:43:23 > 0:43:26Alistair winning it, Jonathan in second

0:43:26 > 0:43:29and Anthony Joshua a very good third place.

0:43:31 > 0:43:32He sat on me the whole way.

0:43:32 > 0:43:35It's normally the opposite - I normally sit on him.

0:43:35 > 0:43:38But he out-kicked me there at the end and well done.

0:43:38 > 0:43:40You let him do all the work and you stole the glory.

0:43:40 > 0:43:42I did, I knew really that was my only chance

0:43:42 > 0:43:43but he went out really hard.

0:43:43 > 0:43:46I mean, I would've taken it on as well but he was going so hard

0:43:46 > 0:43:48there's not really a lot I could do about it.

0:43:48 > 0:43:50My fitness isn't what I'd like it to be,

0:43:50 > 0:43:52but it's not bad to run, like, 2.03, is it?

0:43:52 > 0:43:54Mo, you've got to admit, that was serious, wasn't it?

0:43:54 > 0:43:57That was serious race, serious. Came so close between them.

0:43:57 > 0:43:58And they were miles ahead.

0:43:58 > 0:44:00There was two different races, as you saw.

0:44:00 > 0:44:04But these boys, they looked good as well, good form, and it was close.

0:44:04 > 0:44:07Being honest, I bet you're pleased you weren't out there, aren't you?

0:44:07 > 0:44:10No, they'd definitely give me a hard race for sure

0:44:10 > 0:44:12but, you know, it's all good.

0:44:12 > 0:44:15Halfway through the men's competition and we have a new leader

0:44:15 > 0:44:18as Alistair and Jonathan pull ahead of Michael in third.

0:44:21 > 0:44:24What a finish to the men's 800m.

0:44:24 > 0:44:27Those Brownlee brothers, SO competitive.

0:44:27 > 0:44:30To the end. I mean, it was the race that we'd hoped for.

0:44:30 > 0:44:31It didn't disappoint.

0:44:31 > 0:44:34It was nip and tuck all the way but didn't Alistair do well?

0:44:34 > 0:44:36- He did.- Got it at the end.

0:44:36 > 0:44:37Sat on his shoulder and got it at the end.

0:44:37 > 0:44:40Another great run from Anthony Joshua as well.

0:44:40 > 0:44:43See, that guy is full of all the skills. He really is.

0:44:43 > 0:44:46Speed, and clearly he's got enough endurance as well.

0:44:46 > 0:44:48But that comes from the boxing training.

0:44:48 > 0:44:52But he's also fiercely competitive, which we're starting to see -

0:44:52 > 0:44:56the true Anthony Joshua come out, right here at Superstars.

0:44:56 > 0:44:57Our celebrity swimmers

0:44:57 > 0:44:59have been getting advice of the highest calibre.

0:44:59 > 0:45:01They've been lucky enough to get top tips

0:45:01 > 0:45:04from none other than Rebecca Adlington.

0:45:04 > 0:45:06Basically, I want you guys to just get in

0:45:06 > 0:45:09and swim to halfway and back, just so I can what your ability is.

0:45:09 > 0:45:10How bad we are.

0:45:10 > 0:45:12Is it like that?

0:45:12 > 0:45:15- So I need to...?- Yeah.

0:45:15 > 0:45:17Just show me what you can do and then I can...

0:45:17 > 0:45:19Wah-hey!

0:45:19 > 0:45:21I need to see you swim!

0:45:21 > 0:45:23Oh!

0:45:23 > 0:45:26You just dive in, kick, kick, kick, and then start freestyle.

0:45:27 > 0:45:30- That was really good! - That was all right.

0:45:30 > 0:45:31That was actually really good.

0:45:35 > 0:45:38REBECCA LAUGHS What was that!?

0:45:39 > 0:45:41Yeah, you need them that tight.

0:45:44 > 0:45:46The boys are better than the girls, I'd say.

0:45:46 > 0:45:49Laura's got a good swim but not such a good start,

0:45:49 > 0:45:51and Katherine had a good start.

0:45:51 > 0:45:54So it's a big welcome to Rebecca to Superstars.

0:45:54 > 0:45:55Thank you. Thank you very much.

0:45:55 > 0:45:57What kind of tips have you been giving our water babies?

0:45:57 > 0:46:00It's been hard, in such a short space of time,

0:46:00 > 0:46:03to kind of pass all my knowledge from the past 12 years on to them.

0:46:03 > 0:46:05Just trying to get their dive, I think -

0:46:05 > 0:46:07most of them can swim pretty well, actually,

0:46:07 > 0:46:08but it's just about correcting the dive.

0:46:08 > 0:46:11Here they have the wedge box which is a bit different

0:46:11 > 0:46:12for us swimmers so just giving them

0:46:12 > 0:46:14a few tips and pointers here and there,

0:46:14 > 0:46:17and telling them not to breathe in the last five metres.

0:46:17 > 0:46:18I guess breathing is the key -

0:46:18 > 0:46:21I was speaking to Anthony Joshua and deciding how many breaths

0:46:21 > 0:46:24- you'll take, how many strokes before you breathe.- Yeah.

0:46:24 > 0:46:27The minimum the better, I think, especially as it's over 50.

0:46:27 > 0:46:30I breathe quite a lot when I'm doing 800 - I've got loads of laps to do.

0:46:30 > 0:46:32So for this the minimum breathing the better

0:46:32 > 0:46:35and the last five metres, put your head down

0:46:35 > 0:46:36and get to the wall before the next person.

0:46:36 > 0:46:39I know you normally do 800 but we thought,

0:46:39 > 0:46:41having you here, in this fabulous pool,

0:46:41 > 0:46:43it would be such a waste if we couldn't get you in the pool

0:46:43 > 0:46:47and then Michael, come in, obviously he's been pulled out of this event.

0:46:47 > 0:46:49And we had this brilliant idea.

0:46:49 > 0:46:52You do the freestyle, you do breaststroke, have a little race.

0:46:52 > 0:46:54Yeah, yeah, it should be good.

0:46:54 > 0:46:56It should be quite close as well, I think,

0:46:56 > 0:46:58so, yeah, looking forward to it.

0:46:58 > 0:47:01As long as he's doing breaststroke and I'm doing free, it's OK.

0:47:01 > 0:47:04And then we thought, "Well, two seems quite lonely,"

0:47:04 > 0:47:07so I hope you don't mind but we thought this man might join you.

0:47:07 > 0:47:10- What is he wearing? - I'm ready. That's what I'm wearing.

0:47:10 > 0:47:13That is not fair. That is totally not fair with me in a costume.

0:47:13 > 0:47:14They're illegal, they're banned.

0:47:14 > 0:47:18I'm not a swimmer. I'm an old, has-been runner. I'm ready for you.

0:47:18 > 0:47:19- They're banned!- What do you mean?

0:47:19 > 0:47:22- They're illegal! - Not in my local bath.

0:47:22 > 0:47:24Iwan, have you decided on your stroke?

0:47:24 > 0:47:26Er, just...just make it from here to there.

0:47:26 > 0:47:28And I'm going to try to do freestyle all the way.

0:47:28 > 0:47:32I'll have to breathe quite a lot and it'll be a bit of fun, I hope.

0:47:32 > 0:47:33On your marks! BUZZER

0:47:33 > 0:47:37Celebrity starter Denise Lewis gets them under way.

0:47:38 > 0:47:41Lovely start as always from Rebecca Adlington.

0:47:41 > 0:47:44And look at Michael Jamieson on the far side.

0:47:44 > 0:47:46Iwan Thomas got off to a cracking start

0:47:46 > 0:47:48but is beginning to fade just a little bit,

0:47:48 > 0:47:51and Rebecca is coming back.

0:47:51 > 0:47:52CROWD CHEERS AND CLAPS

0:47:52 > 0:47:56Adlington has got the endurance factor, that's for sure.

0:47:56 > 0:47:59Iwan Thomas is going to finish in third place,

0:47:59 > 0:48:00but who's going to win it?

0:48:00 > 0:48:04Michael Jamieson just taking a little look across there.

0:48:04 > 0:48:06Adlington wins, Jamieson second,

0:48:06 > 0:48:08and Iwan Thomas finishing in third place.

0:48:10 > 0:48:12Fun it might have been, but that was serious swimming.

0:48:12 > 0:48:14Rebecca, you did it.

0:48:14 > 0:48:16Yes! I'm so proud. The girl won.

0:48:16 > 0:48:17Yay!

0:48:17 > 0:48:20How hard was that? You haven't swum for ages.

0:48:20 > 0:48:22I know. I've not trained for about four months.

0:48:22 > 0:48:25So it was very, very difficult but I had such a good time.

0:48:25 > 0:48:27- These guys were actually amazing. - Come over here, Iwan.

0:48:27 > 0:48:30You deserve a bit of acknowledgement for that.

0:48:30 > 0:48:31I'm so out of breath! That was so hard.

0:48:31 > 0:48:34But I am in an illegal suit so I had a bit of an advantage,

0:48:34 > 0:48:36but it was an honour to swim against these guys.

0:48:36 > 0:48:39That will never happen again for me, so it was good.

0:48:39 > 0:48:41Michael, beaten by a girl.

0:48:41 > 0:48:44Yeah, I know, I'm gutted. Just touched out, but...

0:48:44 > 0:48:49No, good fun. It was great fun and good to see Iwan getting in as well.

0:48:49 > 0:48:50I loved it!

0:48:50 > 0:48:52He did have to do breaststroke, to be fair to him.

0:48:52 > 0:48:55To say you did breaststroke that was pretty, pretty awesome.

0:48:55 > 0:48:58- Can I get back to my real job now? - Yeah, off you go.- Thanks.

0:48:58 > 0:49:00Well, Iwan Thomas is a born competitor.

0:49:00 > 0:49:02There's the line-up for the women's event -

0:49:02 > 0:49:04Jade Jones followed by Helen Glover,

0:49:04 > 0:49:07Katherine Grainger, and Laura Bechtolsheimer in lane six.

0:49:07 > 0:49:10- ANNOUNCER:- Ladies and gentlemen, Jade Jones!

0:49:10 > 0:49:11CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:49:11 > 0:49:15Jade Jones has certainly had a good Superstars so far,

0:49:15 > 0:49:17as has Helen Glover.

0:49:17 > 0:49:18Katherine Grainger!

0:49:18 > 0:49:21Katherine Grainger yet to get in the big points.

0:49:21 > 0:49:22Is this her time?

0:49:22 > 0:49:24Laura Bechtolsheimer!

0:49:24 > 0:49:27And Laura Bechtolsheimer smiling.

0:49:30 > 0:49:33Well, we saw some very strange start methods

0:49:33 > 0:49:35when the girls were training.

0:49:35 > 0:49:36What can they do this time?

0:49:36 > 0:49:38BUZZER

0:49:38 > 0:49:39Away we go.

0:49:42 > 0:49:46And certainly Helen Glover has got away to the best start -

0:49:46 > 0:49:48my goodness, she's absolutely flying!

0:49:49 > 0:49:52A very impressive display from Helen Glover,

0:49:52 > 0:49:56heading towards her second victory in a row in Superstars.

0:49:56 > 0:50:00There's clear water between the leader and everyone else.

0:50:00 > 0:50:03Helen's got to be careful not to bump into that lane line.

0:50:03 > 0:50:05And coming through into second

0:50:05 > 0:50:08is Laura Bechtolsheimer,

0:50:08 > 0:50:10just ahead of Katherine Grainger.

0:50:10 > 0:50:12Jade Jones in fourth place,

0:50:12 > 0:50:13but a great victory

0:50:13 > 0:50:14for Helen Glover.

0:50:14 > 0:50:15Laura finishes second.

0:50:15 > 0:50:19Katherine Grainger, her best position so far in Superstars

0:50:19 > 0:50:21and Jade Jones bringing up the rear,

0:50:21 > 0:50:22just finishing now.

0:50:24 > 0:50:26But Helen Glover,

0:50:26 > 0:50:29the star in the swimming pool.

0:50:29 > 0:50:31A little bit of an untidy dive in,

0:50:31 > 0:50:34but she had such power coming down the pool.

0:50:38 > 0:50:40Good swimming all the way

0:50:40 > 0:50:43and a second big ten points for Helen Glover.

0:50:45 > 0:50:49It was a fantastic time as well - 32.26.

0:50:49 > 0:50:51That will take a bit of beating, even by the men.

0:50:51 > 0:50:54Laura got second, Katherine third and Jade Jones in fourth.

0:50:57 > 0:50:58- How amazing was that?- Oh, yeah.

0:50:58 > 0:51:01I didn't have a clue where I was till I pushed...

0:51:01 > 0:51:03Were you telling fibs? Are you a secret swimmer?

0:51:03 > 0:51:05- Cos that technically was brilliant. - No, really?- Really!

0:51:05 > 0:51:08- I haven't swum for years, so... - 32.02.

0:51:08 > 0:51:10- That means nothing to me. - Well, it's quick.- Is it?

0:51:10 > 0:51:12- Honestly, that was fantastic. - I don't have a clue.

0:51:12 > 0:51:15- You've ended today on a high note. - Cool, thanks.

0:51:15 > 0:51:17But, Laura, talking about ending today on a high note,

0:51:17 > 0:51:21- you are going into tomorrow the leader overall of Superstars. - Shut up.- Yes, you are.

0:51:21 > 0:51:22You are winning. Did you expect that?

0:51:22 > 0:51:25No, no.

0:51:25 > 0:51:28- You must be buzzing.- I don't want to cycle, don't make me cycle.

0:51:28 > 0:51:31Well, you have to. You can't drop out. You're in front.

0:51:31 > 0:51:34- OK. I'm all over it.- Get a good night's sleep. Get some good dinner.

0:51:34 > 0:51:36- Come back fast tomorrow.- Yes.

0:51:37 > 0:51:40So just three men contesting their swimming event,

0:51:40 > 0:51:43Robbie Grabarz, Andrew Triggs Hodge and Anthony Joshua.

0:51:46 > 0:51:48TANNOY: Robbie Grabarz!

0:51:48 > 0:51:50So only three men, but it is an intriguing line-up.

0:51:50 > 0:51:52Robbie Grabarz hoping to score big points.

0:51:52 > 0:51:54TANNOY: Triggs Hodge!

0:51:54 > 0:51:56Andy Triggs Hodge, hopefully recovered from the injury

0:51:56 > 0:51:58he sustained in the 100 metres.

0:51:58 > 0:52:02And up against the winner of that event, Anthony Joshua.

0:52:06 > 0:52:07Well, Anthony Joshua,

0:52:07 > 0:52:10head and shoulders just about ahead of these guys.

0:52:10 > 0:52:13Such a big, big man.

0:52:13 > 0:52:14BUZZER

0:52:14 > 0:52:15Away we go.

0:52:15 > 0:52:20Nearest the camera there, Robbie Grabarz, the Olympic high jump star.

0:52:20 > 0:52:23Finished off his year with an absolutely brilliant jump,

0:52:23 > 0:52:25equalling the British record.

0:52:25 > 0:52:28Going head to head with Anthony Joshua at the moment.

0:52:28 > 0:52:30This is so, so close.

0:52:32 > 0:52:33Rebecca Adlington there intrigued.

0:52:33 > 0:52:36She can't even tell who's going to get this one.

0:52:36 > 0:52:39Anthony Joshua perhaps just a whisker ahead at the moment.

0:52:41 > 0:52:42Ten metres to go.

0:52:42 > 0:52:45Robbie Grabarz has got to try to find something here.

0:52:45 > 0:52:46Who's got it?

0:52:46 > 0:52:48Robbie Grabarz or Anthony Joshua?

0:52:48 > 0:52:49I don't know.

0:52:51 > 0:52:54Andy Triggs Hodge finishing in third place, that was so, so close.

0:52:56 > 0:53:00Well, the victory has been given to Robbie Grabarz.

0:53:00 > 0:53:04Maximum points for him for the first time in Superstars.

0:53:04 > 0:53:07Anthony Joshua just missing out on the touch.

0:53:07 > 0:53:10Watch it here, he reaches, couldn't quite make it,

0:53:10 > 0:53:12had to take another stroke.

0:53:13 > 0:53:15Nevertheless, it was a very good victory indeed

0:53:15 > 0:53:17for Robbie Grabarz, 32.74.

0:53:17 > 0:53:21Almost half a second slower than Helen Glover in the women's event.

0:53:23 > 0:53:28Robbie, I think your reaction says it all. Great swim.

0:53:28 > 0:53:31- Do you know, do you know how close it was?- No.

0:53:31 > 0:53:33That was all on the push.

0:53:33 > 0:53:35Oh! I can't believe it.

0:53:35 > 0:53:38- You needed that, you needed that, points-wise.- I needed that. Wow.

0:53:38 > 0:53:40So Laura's leading the field

0:53:40 > 0:53:41after five events,

0:53:41 > 0:53:42but she's only two points ahead

0:53:42 > 0:53:45of Helen, who has an event in hand.

0:53:45 > 0:53:46In the men's competition,

0:53:46 > 0:53:48Alistair holds on to his lead,

0:53:48 > 0:53:49but both Anthony and Robbie

0:53:49 > 0:53:51have leapfrogged Jonathan

0:53:51 > 0:53:53and are closing fast.

0:53:53 > 0:53:57What a day we've had. Despair, joy, agony, ecstasy.

0:53:57 > 0:53:59Lots of rain as well.

0:53:59 > 0:54:00But let's just sum it up.

0:54:00 > 0:54:03For the girls first, who has surprised you in a good way

0:54:03 > 0:54:05and delighted you with their performances?

0:54:05 > 0:54:08It's been a mixed bag but I think Helen Glover has stood out.

0:54:08 > 0:54:12Her 800 metres was sublime, total dominance in that.

0:54:12 > 0:54:15And then again, in her swim, completely faultless,

0:54:15 > 0:54:16so she's done a good job.

0:54:16 > 0:54:19- Who have you been delighted by? - I think apart from the kayak,

0:54:19 > 0:54:22where he's going to be devastated he fell in, but Michael Jamieson.

0:54:22 > 0:54:24I think, before this competition I thought,

0:54:24 > 0:54:26"Yeah, he's a good athlete, but is he an all-round athlete?"

0:54:26 > 0:54:28And I think he surprised a few people.

0:54:28 > 0:54:31He's definitely a dark horse. But it's so close.

0:54:31 > 0:54:33For the guys, I honestly think it could come down

0:54:33 > 0:54:35to the dreaded gym tests. I hope so.

0:54:35 > 0:54:36Tomorrow's another day.

0:54:36 > 0:54:38Shall we go to bed, get some rest,

0:54:38 > 0:54:41and get ready for the final day of Superstars?

0:54:44 > 0:54:47So, three events left and we start day two here,

0:54:47 > 0:54:50at the American Museum, in Bath, for the bike race.

0:54:50 > 0:54:51Bit of history in this event.

0:54:51 > 0:54:56The year 1976, the man in question, Mr Kevin Keegan.

0:54:56 > 0:54:57STARTING GUN FIRES

0:54:57 > 0:54:58Keegan on the inside.

0:54:58 > 0:55:00Van Binst, the soccer player.

0:55:00 > 0:55:02And Keegan wobbling a bit there at the start.

0:55:02 > 0:55:06Trying to put a lot of pressure on. He's wobbling all over the track.

0:55:06 > 0:55:08Van Binst is just about a half a wheel up at the moment

0:55:08 > 0:55:09and Keegan still wobbling.

0:55:09 > 0:55:11Coming to the first bend and Van Binst comes across.

0:55:11 > 0:55:14And Keegan's gone! Keegan touched the back wheel

0:55:14 > 0:55:16and he's gone across the track on his back.

0:55:16 > 0:55:19Covered in dust, that is a terrible crash.

0:55:19 > 0:55:21Right across the track on his back.

0:55:21 > 0:55:23Keegan off, and that's an awful crash.

0:55:23 > 0:55:26Probably looked worse than it was, but I just lay still for a minute

0:55:26 > 0:55:29trying to feel what was broken or something but I'm fine.

0:55:29 > 0:55:32- Nothing broken?- Well, a bit grazed but no harm done.

0:55:32 > 0:55:33It was just a complete accident.

0:55:33 > 0:55:37Ouch! No long-lasting damage, though, for Mr Keegan.

0:55:37 > 0:55:40Let's hope there's no road rash in our road race today.

0:55:40 > 0:55:43Now, our course is about a kilometre long.

0:55:43 > 0:55:45The bad news for our riders - it's mainly uphill.

0:55:45 > 0:55:48The good news - there's a nice flat section at the end

0:55:48 > 0:55:49for that all-important sprint finish.

0:55:49 > 0:55:51Let's get to Denise at the start line.

0:55:51 > 0:55:54So, Laura, you had a good day yesterday.

0:55:54 > 0:55:57Have you seen the course and what do you think of it?

0:55:57 > 0:56:00I've seen the course and I'm, um, excited?

0:56:00 > 0:56:01SHE LAUGHS

0:56:01 > 0:56:02Excited?

0:56:02 > 0:56:06It's not quite the word I was expecting, but that's good news.

0:56:06 > 0:56:08No, yeah, it's quite steep. I...

0:56:08 > 0:56:11If I get up the hill without having to get off and push,

0:56:11 > 0:56:13then, I'll be pretty pleased with myself.

0:56:13 > 0:56:14On your marks.

0:56:16 > 0:56:17STARTING GUN FIRES

0:56:17 > 0:56:19Well, blue skies above for the start

0:56:19 > 0:56:23and that certainly will please a lot of the competitors.

0:56:24 > 0:56:27Nicola Adams there into the lead along with Katherine Grainger.

0:56:27 > 0:56:30Gemma Gibbons there having a bit of a slow start,

0:56:30 > 0:56:32she's going to have to get a move on.

0:56:32 > 0:56:35And Nicola has gone off absolutely beautifully here.

0:56:35 > 0:56:38Just rocking and rolling a little bit,

0:56:38 > 0:56:40Katherine Grainger alongside her.

0:56:40 > 0:56:43She's so strong and powerful, Katherine Grainger.

0:56:45 > 0:56:48So many people delighted, of course, when she won her gold medal,

0:56:48 > 0:56:51her precious gold medal in the Olympic competition

0:56:51 > 0:56:54after three consecutive silvers.

0:56:54 > 0:56:56What an athlete she is.

0:56:58 > 0:57:02And there is a winner from the two previous events, Helen Glover,

0:57:02 > 0:57:04who's beginning to make a move now.

0:57:06 > 0:57:09Helen overtaking Nicola Adams so, so easily

0:57:09 > 0:57:12and Nicola Adams, all of a sudden, has totally lost it.

0:57:12 > 0:57:16As they head towards this vicious hill.

0:57:16 > 0:57:20There is Helen Glover alongside Katherine Grainger.

0:57:20 > 0:57:24Nicola Adams still hanging on into third place.

0:57:24 > 0:57:26And look at this.

0:57:26 > 0:57:30Katherine Grainger has gone from first place to second place

0:57:30 > 0:57:34and quite a long way back in the space of about 50-100 metres.

0:57:35 > 0:57:37Helen Glover looking behind her.

0:57:37 > 0:57:41Surely, she must think now, "I've got this third victory in the bag."

0:57:41 > 0:57:44And she's beginning to pull away again.

0:57:44 > 0:57:46Little anxious look once more,

0:57:46 > 0:57:51because you can't write off an athlete like Katherine Grainger.

0:57:51 > 0:57:55And Helen Glover again looking behind,

0:57:55 > 0:57:57but she's heading towards the finish now.

0:57:57 > 0:58:00One last turn, slows down,

0:58:00 > 0:58:04just makes sure she doesn't crash into anything or come off the bike.

0:58:04 > 0:58:07It's still wet on the course,

0:58:07 > 0:58:10but now she can look forward to victory number three.

0:58:10 > 0:58:12Another ten points for Helen Glover.

0:58:12 > 0:58:17Katherine Grainger gets her best points in Superstars so far,

0:58:17 > 0:58:19she's getting better and better as time goes on.

0:58:21 > 0:58:25And finally, Nicola Adams coming through very strongly

0:58:25 > 0:58:27but she's being chased

0:58:27 > 0:58:30and Nicola Adams looks as though she's safe for third place.

0:58:30 > 0:58:34And Gemma Gibbons after that disastrous start,

0:58:34 > 0:58:36looking comfortable in fourth.

0:58:36 > 0:58:39And the overall leader, Laura Bechtolsheimer,

0:58:39 > 0:58:41coming in fifth there.

0:58:42 > 0:58:45There's Nicola crossing the line absolutely delighted.

0:58:45 > 0:58:49We understand Gemma Gibbons had problems getting into the toe-hold.

0:58:51 > 0:58:53Gemma finishes in fourth place, then Laura

0:58:53 > 0:58:55and finally, Christine Ohuruogu.

0:58:57 > 0:58:59Great result once again, though, for Helen Glover,

0:58:59 > 0:59:01no doubt about her victory.

0:59:01 > 0:59:03Katherine Grainger, seven big points for her,

0:59:03 > 0:59:05and then Nicola got third place.

0:59:08 > 0:59:10So, Helen, a bit panicky. Bad start, was it?

0:59:10 > 0:59:13I couldn't get my feet in the baskets like I wanted to,

0:59:13 > 0:59:15so I was coasting along, I wasn't pedalling and I looked up

0:59:15 > 0:59:19and I was, "Katherine's at the bottom of the hill, she's started climbing."

0:59:19 > 0:59:21So I was like, "Sprint!" But I mean, I've been back at training...

0:59:21 > 0:59:27Rowers are good at cycling and I've been back at training a little longer than Katherine, so I think...

0:59:27 > 0:59:32She's a demon on stuff like this, so I definitely had a head start, in the fact that, you know,

0:59:32 > 0:59:35I've been out on the bike a little bit lately.

0:59:35 > 0:59:37So Helen takes the lead in the women's event,

0:59:37 > 0:59:39five points clear of Laura

0:59:39 > 0:59:40with Nicola another five points

0:59:40 > 0:59:42adrift in third place.

0:59:44 > 0:59:46So nobody's done a Keegan so far.

0:59:46 > 0:59:49Let's hope our men can stay upright too.

0:59:49 > 0:59:51The dreaded bike ride. Peter, how are you feeling?

0:59:51 > 0:59:55I'm utterly terrified but if I can just about beat Mo here,

0:59:55 > 0:59:57I'll be pretty happy.

0:59:57 > 0:59:59What do you think of that, Mo? Come on.

0:59:59 > 1:00:01You're going to hold it together for the athletes?

1:00:01 > 1:00:03I've got to get him back, haven't I?

1:00:03 > 1:00:05After the kayaking, ah, man, that was a disgrace.

1:00:05 > 1:00:07So I'm hoping to do something better here.

1:00:07 > 1:00:08On your marks.

1:00:10 > 1:00:11STARTING GUN FIRES

1:00:13 > 1:00:17Well, Anthony Joshua in around third place in the light blue there,

1:00:17 > 1:00:20he's certainly the powerhouse amongst these guys.

1:00:20 > 1:00:24And Mo Farah having problems getting his toes in the grips as well.

1:00:25 > 1:00:28But Anthony Joshua, I wonder how he's going to fare

1:00:28 > 1:00:29over a kilometre of distance.

1:00:29 > 1:00:32Does a lot of road work of course for his boxing

1:00:32 > 1:00:34but this is slightly different.

1:00:34 > 1:00:37Peter Wilson there looks comfortable in second place.

1:00:37 > 1:00:40Robbie Grabarz coming alongside Anthony Joshua,

1:00:40 > 1:00:43just as he was in the 100 metres

1:00:43 > 1:00:45for about 60 or 70 metres.

1:00:45 > 1:00:48Then Anthony Joshua pulled away.

1:00:48 > 1:00:50This really is an intriguing line-up

1:00:50 > 1:00:53and it's Anthony Joshua who's taken this event

1:00:53 > 1:00:54by the scruff of the neck.

1:00:54 > 1:00:58Robbie Grabarz it is in second place, goes past the giant boxer.

1:01:01 > 1:01:04Robbie Grabarz really out of his saddle now, head down,

1:01:04 > 1:01:06legs pumping, this is going to hurt.

1:01:08 > 1:01:10Now, Robbie Grabarz is being cheered on

1:01:10 > 1:01:12with everybody else by the Brownlee brothers there.

1:01:12 > 1:01:17They've been prevented from taking part in this cycling contest.

1:01:17 > 1:01:20Mo Farah in fifth place and then Peter Wilson.

1:01:21 > 1:01:25But Michael Jamieson is up on the shoulder of Anthony Joshua,

1:01:25 > 1:01:28who's taken over the lead once again.

1:01:28 > 1:01:31This is a fascinating contest.

1:01:31 > 1:01:33Anthony Joshua, we know he can sprint,

1:01:33 > 1:01:37but there was always a question mark about his endurance as well.

1:01:37 > 1:01:41Andy Triggs Hodge on the far side there, wearing the purple top,

1:01:41 > 1:01:43all of a sudden has come into contention.

1:01:43 > 1:01:46Robbie Grabarz has lost about 25 metres.

1:01:48 > 1:01:51We're coming into the last couple of hundred metres of the course.

1:01:51 > 1:01:56This turn, this sharp right hand turn into the finish area

1:01:56 > 1:01:57could be a real test.

1:01:57 > 1:02:01Anthony Joshua tentatively round Andy Triggs Hodge there,

1:02:01 > 1:02:04just took a bit of a bump on the road.

1:02:04 > 1:02:07Anthony Joshua looking around coming through,

1:02:07 > 1:02:09victorious Tour De France style.

1:02:09 > 1:02:12Andy Triggs Hodge just in second, ahead of Michael Jamieson.

1:02:12 > 1:02:13Wow, that was close!

1:02:13 > 1:02:15Did you get him on the line?

1:02:15 > 1:02:17HE PANTS

1:02:17 > 1:02:20Anthony, you were show boating there. Did you get it? Did you get it?

1:02:20 > 1:02:23That's what it's about. I know I got it.

1:02:23 > 1:02:26Now, you're a massive man, yeah, big legs.

1:02:26 > 1:02:29There must be some lactic in them bad boys. Does that hurt?

1:02:29 > 1:02:31- It does hurt.- Well, there's another man over there

1:02:31 > 1:02:32who's in serious pain.

1:02:32 > 1:02:34- Come on, hang on to me.- Arrrgh.

1:02:34 > 1:02:36How bad was that?

1:02:36 > 1:02:39That was cool, man. There was some great action up the hill there.

1:02:39 > 1:02:42People throwing it all at it and then on the top,

1:02:42 > 1:02:43just riding it out, trying to spin.

1:02:43 > 1:02:47I tried to go up a gear but my legs, my quads are just completely gone.

1:02:47 > 1:02:50Anthony gave it a little bit of show boating towards the line

1:02:50 > 1:02:51and I thought you were going to pip him.

1:02:51 > 1:02:54- Oh, God, that would've been beautiful.- Whoo!

1:02:54 > 1:02:57No, Anthony deserves that, he's a great guy. He brought a lot into that.

1:02:57 > 1:02:59I'm looking forward to seeing him in the dips test as well

1:02:59 > 1:03:02- cos he's going to rule.- Well, you've got a couple of events to go.

1:03:02 > 1:03:07- You've just got to keep digging in. You're nearly there.- Keep going. Exactly, last few.

1:03:07 > 1:03:11That was so, so close but it's victory for Anthony Joshua.

1:03:11 > 1:03:13Andy Triggs Hodge, his best result so far.

1:03:13 > 1:03:15Michael Jamieson in third.

1:03:17 > 1:03:20That win for Anthony means he's the new leader,

1:03:20 > 1:03:21six points clear of Alistair,

1:03:21 > 1:03:24but Robbie and Michael are hot on his heels.

1:03:27 > 1:03:30Time now for our only Superstars field event

1:03:30 > 1:03:32and we're focusing on throwing.

1:03:34 > 1:03:36Indeed we are. It's the javelin.

1:03:36 > 1:03:38They've had a bit of practice

1:03:38 > 1:03:42under the guidance of former British international and now prominent coach Ken Holmes,

1:03:42 > 1:03:47who was watching that the athletes didn't step over the line

1:03:47 > 1:03:51but Lizzie Armitstead got her first throw out to 13.57.

1:03:51 > 1:03:55Then came Katherine Grainger, strong and powerful,

1:03:55 > 1:03:58way over 20 metres,

1:03:58 > 1:04:0022.49, that took the lead.

1:04:01 > 1:04:03Well, this was the first round of three

1:04:03 > 1:04:06and the best outright throw, of course, wins.

1:04:06 > 1:04:07Gemma Gibbon's first throw,

1:04:07 > 1:04:11also over 21 metres, 21.92.

1:04:11 > 1:04:14And then to the former Olympic 400-metre champion,

1:04:14 > 1:04:15Christine Ohuruogu,

1:04:15 > 1:04:18who found this event difficult.

1:04:18 > 1:04:20Her first throw, 13.59.

1:04:22 > 1:04:24Jade Jones,

1:04:24 > 1:04:28she went a little further - 19.73 metres.

1:04:28 > 1:04:30All the men would get their chance very shortly.

1:04:32 > 1:04:36And finally, Helen Glover drew the first round to a close,

1:04:36 > 1:04:38being cheered all the way.

1:04:39 > 1:04:41Didn't make a huge amount of difference.

1:04:41 > 1:04:4315.57 metres for Helen.

1:04:45 > 1:04:48By the time we finished round two,

1:04:48 > 1:04:50Katherine Grainger was still in the lead,

1:04:50 > 1:04:52but didn't make any improvement with that second round.

1:04:52 > 1:04:56The big mover, though, was Lizzie Armitstead, 18.25,

1:04:56 > 1:04:58moved into fourth place.

1:04:58 > 1:05:02Our last throw for Lizzie Armitstead

1:05:02 > 1:05:05after that brilliant second-round throw for her.

1:05:05 > 1:05:08Little bit of a muted cheer there from everybody.

1:05:08 > 1:05:12Lizzie's final throw, 14.98 metres.

1:05:12 > 1:05:18So now, we see the overall leader in the javelin, Katherine Grainger.

1:05:18 > 1:05:22Could this be her first victory in this year's Superstars?

1:05:22 > 1:05:26Hits it hard, it's not bad, it floats out there.

1:05:26 > 1:05:29And that is a superb throw.

1:05:30 > 1:05:3624.93 metres, by far and away the longest throw that we've seen.

1:05:37 > 1:05:38Appreciated by the crowd

1:05:38 > 1:05:41but it won't be appreciated by the rest of the competitors,

1:05:41 > 1:05:42that's for sure.

1:05:44 > 1:05:48Well, Gemma Gibbons, her best throw so far 21.92 metres,

1:05:48 > 1:05:50that came in the first round.

1:05:50 > 1:05:52Had a foul last time.

1:05:54 > 1:05:57Smiling all the way but hits it hard.

1:05:57 > 1:05:59That could be good and I tell you what,

1:05:59 > 1:06:01that could challenge Katherine Grainger's best throw.

1:06:01 > 1:06:06Katherine's 24.93 leads the way at the moment,

1:06:06 > 1:06:10so those are the figures everybody will be listing to.

1:06:10 > 1:06:1224.49.

1:06:12 > 1:06:14Oh, my goodness!

1:06:14 > 1:06:1724.49. She's in second place.

1:06:18 > 1:06:21Now, can Christine Ohuruogu move up the leaderboard?

1:06:23 > 1:06:25Her best so far, 15.66.

1:06:25 > 1:06:26It's got to go further.

1:06:28 > 1:06:29Went a little bit sideways,

1:06:29 > 1:06:32just inside that sector line.

1:06:32 > 1:06:34If it had hit the sector line or gone outside,

1:06:34 > 1:06:36that would have been a foul.

1:06:36 > 1:06:39So 18.09, Christine Ohuruogu improves too.

1:06:41 > 1:06:46Jade Jones, 19.73, her best effort so far.

1:06:46 > 1:06:48Ah, just topped it.

1:06:50 > 1:06:52Well, that won't improve her position,

1:06:52 > 1:06:5417.40 it's been measured at.

1:06:54 > 1:06:56Well, Christine just had a massive throw.

1:06:56 > 1:06:59It means the pressure's on, cos you're in last place now.

1:06:59 > 1:07:02Yeah, that's so annoying. I was counting on Christine to stay behind me.

1:07:02 > 1:07:04You're not an Olympic champion for nothing, so get out there...

1:07:04 > 1:07:08- I need my game face on.- Do yourself proud, get out there, come on. - Come on!

1:07:08 > 1:07:12So bit of psyching up by Iwan Thomas for Helen Glover.

1:07:12 > 1:07:16And this is her weakest event so far,

1:07:16 > 1:07:19and who knows what she can do in the last round?

1:07:19 > 1:07:2215.57 and then 15.90...

1:07:22 > 1:07:24That's going to land tail first,

1:07:24 > 1:07:27so that is a foul for Helen Glover.

1:07:27 > 1:07:30Great result for Katherine Grainger, though.

1:07:30 > 1:07:32Gemma Gibbons in second.

1:07:32 > 1:07:34And the tiny Jade Jones gets third.

1:07:34 > 1:07:36That was very good indeed.

1:07:38 > 1:07:39Well, Denise Lewis,

1:07:39 > 1:07:42it turns out that Katherine Grainger may have a new sport.

1:07:42 > 1:07:44She's got some hidden talent.

1:07:44 > 1:07:47But I'm glad she managed to pull it out in the javelin.

1:07:47 > 1:07:49She was really good.

1:07:49 > 1:07:52Yeah, she had a great bike as well so she's having a strong day today.

1:07:52 > 1:07:55And Gemma as well. Not surprising perhaps with her upper body strength

1:07:55 > 1:07:56that she was going to be good.

1:07:56 > 1:07:59Yeah, Gemma really found that, I think, easier than she thought.

1:07:59 > 1:08:01I think she was a little worried beforehand,

1:08:01 > 1:08:04but she came into her own, got better and better as the rounds went on,

1:08:04 > 1:08:09like Katherine, so two really good throws from those guys.

1:08:09 > 1:08:12Helen extends her lead to seven points with just one event to go

1:08:12 > 1:08:14but Laura and Jade can still

1:08:14 > 1:08:16steal the title away from her.

1:08:20 > 1:08:21Well, in the men's javelin,

1:08:21 > 1:08:24it was Peter Wilson who got us under way in the first round,

1:08:24 > 1:08:26the first of three throws...

1:08:28 > 1:08:31..and getting as much encouragement as he can possibly get.

1:08:31 > 1:08:33Almost taking a run-up,

1:08:33 > 1:08:37as far as Steve Backley would have done back in his heyday.

1:08:38 > 1:08:40And the crowd almost having to remind Peter

1:08:40 > 1:08:43that it's to be thrown with one arm and not two.

1:08:45 > 1:08:47So after a stuttering run-up,

1:08:47 > 1:08:48it did land point first,

1:08:48 > 1:08:53but Peter Wilson fouled it by going over the line with his right foot.

1:08:56 > 1:09:00So it was down to Andy Triggs Hodge, big, tall and muscular,

1:09:00 > 1:09:04but the javelin must land point first and it didn't happen

1:09:04 > 1:09:05so that was a foul for him too.

1:09:05 > 1:09:07And along came Mo Farah,

1:09:07 > 1:09:09he sped up to the line

1:09:09 > 1:09:10and launched the javelin,

1:09:10 > 1:09:14the only valid throw so far and it was long as well -

1:09:14 > 1:09:1735.55 metres for the double Olympic champion.

1:09:19 > 1:09:21And it was Jonny Brownlee,

1:09:21 > 1:09:25master of his trade when it comes to three events in the triathlon,

1:09:25 > 1:09:27but could he master the javelin?

1:09:27 > 1:09:29The answer was no.

1:09:29 > 1:09:32It landed flat, not point first, and that was a foul too.

1:09:36 > 1:09:38Then a man who's seen many javelin throws in the past,

1:09:38 > 1:09:41Robbie Grabarz, as high jumper star.

1:09:43 > 1:09:44Not a bad run-up,

1:09:44 > 1:09:46but again landed flat

1:09:46 > 1:09:48and that too was a foul.

1:09:48 > 1:09:50Two throws to go for Grabarz.

1:09:53 > 1:09:55Then a chance for Alistair Brownlee.

1:09:55 > 1:09:57We've seen what expertise he has in other events,

1:09:57 > 1:09:59but that I think was the first time

1:09:59 > 1:10:02many of the crowd had seen a javelin land backwards.

1:10:05 > 1:10:07And then Anthony Joshua.

1:10:07 > 1:10:10Everybody was wondering how far the big man could throw it

1:10:10 > 1:10:12but he fouled his first throw,

1:10:12 > 1:10:14so lots of fouls in the first round.

1:10:14 > 1:10:17Mo Farah was definitely leading.

1:10:17 > 1:10:18Guys, end of the first round

1:10:18 > 1:10:21and there's only one person on the board and that is Mo.

1:10:21 > 1:10:22THEY LAUGH

1:10:22 > 1:10:24Now, listen, Peter,

1:10:24 > 1:10:27I'll say for you, the prize for the fantastic run-up goes to you.

1:10:27 > 1:10:31But there is a line, and you've crossed it all weekend,

1:10:31 > 1:10:33not just in the javelin. What's going on?

1:10:33 > 1:10:35Yeah, I have crossed it and I forgot there was a line on this one

1:10:35 > 1:10:38and just kept running. I think I would've run the entire length

1:10:38 > 1:10:40if someone hadn't shouted, "Stop", so...

1:10:40 > 1:10:43Anthony, obviously, a monster throw, but a foul throw there.

1:10:43 > 1:10:46- The pressure's on.- I was going to say, it's the pressure, honestly.

1:10:46 > 1:10:50I just wanted to put so much into it, I've ended up taking myself with the javelin. That's the problem.

1:10:50 > 1:10:53And the one man that we know keeps his composure always is you, Mo.

1:10:53 > 1:10:55You're on the leaderboard, you're winning it.

1:10:55 > 1:10:57Yeah, it's still not over yet

1:10:57 > 1:10:59but, you know, it's a good start and yeah.

1:10:59 > 1:11:00You actually looked up for it, though.

1:11:00 > 1:11:03You know on your run-up? I saw the proper Mo, I saw the eyes.

1:11:03 > 1:11:06- I saw the eyes. - I've got to take it seriously.

1:11:06 > 1:11:09I've been finishing what, towards the back the last couple of events

1:11:09 > 1:11:12- so I've got to dig in, haven't I? - Well, you're doing fantastic.

1:11:12 > 1:11:15You can stand on your own, cos you're the only one who's registered.

1:11:15 > 1:11:17All you, boys, you see this professional here?

1:11:17 > 1:11:19THEY LAUGH

1:11:19 > 1:11:22That's what you're aiming at. In fact, you all you owe him a Mobot.

1:11:22 > 1:11:24Let's have a Mobot, you owe him that. Yeah.

1:11:26 > 1:11:30Now, Peter Wilson needs a mark on the board now, grits his teeth,

1:11:30 > 1:11:33gets the javelin out and that will be a valid throw.

1:11:33 > 1:11:34Yes!

1:11:34 > 1:11:3726.22 metres.

1:11:37 > 1:11:39Andy Triggs Hodge,

1:11:39 > 1:11:40is that going to be a foul again?

1:11:40 > 1:11:43I think it is. Gets the red flag, landed flat.

1:11:44 > 1:11:46Mo Farah, the leader.

1:11:48 > 1:11:50Just went out to the side a bit,

1:11:50 > 1:11:52and that is out of the sector.

1:11:52 > 1:11:55So even the leader makes a mistake.

1:11:57 > 1:11:58Jonny Brownlee...

1:11:58 > 1:12:01Oh, landed tail first, hardly went anywhere.

1:12:02 > 1:12:05Robbie Grabarz...

1:12:07 > 1:12:09That's not bad, you know.

1:12:09 > 1:12:13It's not going to land point first, though, so that will be a foul too.

1:12:14 > 1:12:17Robbie Grabarz's in trouble, two fouls out of two.

1:12:17 > 1:12:21Alistair Brownlee, the javelin went all over the place last time,

1:12:21 > 1:12:24he gets a mark in this time.

1:12:25 > 1:12:28Alistair Brownlee, 16.08,

1:12:28 > 1:12:30but at least he's got a mark on the board.

1:12:30 > 1:12:34Now, Anthony Joshua needs something now.

1:12:34 > 1:12:37Not great technique but the javelin sailing out.

1:12:38 > 1:12:39And it's 36.55 metres,

1:12:39 > 1:12:41he goes into the lead.

1:12:43 > 1:12:45Well, nothing changed overall

1:12:45 > 1:12:46in the third and final round

1:12:46 > 1:12:48so there's the result.

1:12:48 > 1:12:49Joshua wins, Farah in second,

1:12:49 > 1:12:52and Peter Wilson's best result in Superstars so far,

1:12:52 > 1:12:53he finishes third.

1:12:57 > 1:12:59Big fella, Anthony, ten more points in the bag.

1:12:59 > 1:13:03I can tell you, with the dreaded gym tests to come,

1:13:03 > 1:13:07you are already the crowned Superstars champion 2012, well done.

1:13:07 > 1:13:08Wah-hey!

1:13:08 > 1:13:10How does it feel?

1:13:10 > 1:13:12It feels great. That's what I came here to do.

1:13:12 > 1:13:15I was playing it down the whole way, saying that no-one's trained for it,

1:13:15 > 1:13:18it's all a bit of fun, but deep down, I wanted to win.

1:13:18 > 1:13:21So confirmation - no-one can catch the big man,

1:13:21 > 1:13:23Anthony takes the Superstars crown

1:13:23 > 1:13:24in spectacular style,

1:13:24 > 1:13:25but only seven points separate

1:13:25 > 1:13:28second to sixth on the leaderboard.

1:13:28 > 1:13:30Now, one for all of you of a certain age.

1:13:30 > 1:13:33There's one man who is synonymous with the Superstars gym tests

1:13:33 > 1:13:38and we simply couldn't go on without a nod to the great Brian Jacks.

1:13:38 > 1:13:40100 up and there's time enough.

1:13:40 > 1:13:41..Seven, eight, nine,

1:13:41 > 1:13:42ten, 11, 12...

1:13:42 > 1:13:44This is quite incredible.

1:13:44 > 1:13:45What a challenge from Brian Jacks.

1:13:45 > 1:13:46..17, 18!

1:13:46 > 1:13:48118 if they all scored.

1:13:48 > 1:13:50He's done it!

1:13:50 > 1:13:53And a new Superstars record is his.

1:13:53 > 1:13:5661, 62, 63, 64, 65, 66, 67, 68...

1:13:56 > 1:13:58All scores wiped out.

1:13:58 > 1:14:02..71, 72, 73, 74, 75, 76, 77...

1:14:02 > 1:14:04That record now looking in doubt.

1:14:04 > 1:14:06..81, 82, 83, 84, 85...

1:14:06 > 1:14:08There it goes.

1:14:08 > 1:14:10..88, 89, 90, 91, 92...

1:14:10 > 1:14:11Oh, he's enjoying this.

1:14:11 > 1:14:14..94, 95, 96, 97,

1:14:14 > 1:14:1698, 99, 100!

1:14:16 > 1:14:17Yes!

1:14:17 > 1:14:18APPLAUSE

1:14:18 > 1:14:23100 for Brian Jacks and still seconds left of the minute.

1:14:23 > 1:14:25Oooh, it's got to hurt. You know how much it hurts.

1:14:25 > 1:14:28I mean, I'm not sure that records are going to be broken today

1:14:28 > 1:14:29but it's going to feel like agony.

1:14:29 > 1:14:31It is agony. It's torture.

1:14:31 > 1:14:35It's not just only physically tough, it's mentally challenging.

1:14:35 > 1:14:37And the girls, some of the girls I've seen,

1:14:37 > 1:14:40they don't like the dips, they haven't done it before,

1:14:40 > 1:14:42but they're going to have to push themselves

1:14:42 > 1:14:44cos, as you know, it's a combined total.

1:14:44 > 1:14:45Both the dips and the squats.

1:14:45 > 1:14:48So if you're not so good at the dips, hit the squats hard.

1:14:48 > 1:14:49But just go for it.

1:14:49 > 1:14:52It's the last one of the last two days, so go for it.

1:14:52 > 1:14:55- All up here.- All in the mind. - And here. And here.- And here.

1:14:55 > 1:14:57You've got it, girls.

1:14:57 > 1:14:58Well, first up,

1:14:58 > 1:15:01it was Christine Ohuruogu up against Lizzie Armitstead,

1:15:01 > 1:15:02and as the clock was ticking away,

1:15:02 > 1:15:05it was Christine Ohuruogu just in the lead.

1:15:05 > 1:15:07She finished on 70,

1:15:07 > 1:15:09Lizzie very close on 68.

1:15:13 > 1:15:17Next, we saw Nicola Adams go head to head with Gemma Gibbons.

1:15:19 > 1:15:23And everybody thought that Nicola Adams would be one of the athletes

1:15:23 > 1:15:27to beat in the gym tests, but she faded badly towards the finish.

1:15:27 > 1:15:30She eventually ended up with 62 squat thrusts

1:15:30 > 1:15:32up against Gemma Gibbons' 67.

1:15:36 > 1:15:39Next up, it was Katherine Grainger up against Jade Jones.

1:15:41 > 1:15:42And it was the rowing star,

1:15:42 > 1:15:44Katherine Grainger on the left hand side,

1:15:44 > 1:15:46who had the advantage, she achieved 68,

1:15:46 > 1:15:50And Jade Jones, it looked as though she got many, many more,

1:15:50 > 1:15:52but found difficulty in negotiating the batons

1:15:52 > 1:15:55which are stretched across the mat.

1:15:55 > 1:15:56Jade Jones, 58.

1:15:58 > 1:16:01So our final pairing is Helen Glover, the overall leader,

1:16:01 > 1:16:03up against Laura Bechtolsheimer.

1:16:05 > 1:16:08And this is going to be a gruelling minute of activity

1:16:08 > 1:16:10from both of these ladies.

1:16:11 > 1:16:14Laura's been competing so, so well in Superstars so far

1:16:14 > 1:16:18and unlike, of course, the great Brian Jacks

1:16:18 > 1:16:20who made this event his absolute own in Superstars

1:16:20 > 1:16:24way back when he was sliding across the surface,

1:16:24 > 1:16:28those batons have been put in place so that sliding cannot take place.

1:16:30 > 1:16:33So Helen Glover, steady as a rock.

1:16:33 > 1:16:35Laura's going well too,

1:16:35 > 1:16:37although she's slowed down a little bit.

1:16:38 > 1:16:40And she's missing a few there as well,

1:16:40 > 1:16:43the judges will take that into account.

1:16:43 > 1:16:46Helen Glover chasing Christine Ohuruogu's 70,

1:16:46 > 1:16:47which leads at the moment.

1:16:49 > 1:16:51And certainly, when you start to get tired,

1:16:51 > 1:16:54every little step backwards and forwards is agony,

1:16:54 > 1:16:55I can promise you.

1:16:58 > 1:17:01Helen Glover really way ahead at the minute.

1:17:01 > 1:17:04Laura not too far behind,

1:17:04 > 1:17:08but one or two of those squat thrusts will be discounted.

1:17:08 > 1:17:09And there goes the whistle.

1:17:09 > 1:17:13Helen Glover finishes with a magnificent total, 84.

1:17:13 > 1:17:15Laura finishes on 68.

1:17:15 > 1:17:17And Jade Jones on 58.

1:17:17 > 1:17:18That really is going to affect

1:17:18 > 1:17:20her chances of lifting this title.

1:17:22 > 1:17:24Well, unfortunately, a little bit of sad news for us.

1:17:24 > 1:17:28Katherine, you've picked up a slight injury in the shoulder there.

1:17:28 > 1:17:31Yeah, I think it was probably to do with the javelin,

1:17:31 > 1:17:34which was a brilliant event for me, obviously.

1:17:34 > 1:17:36I knew it was a little bit niggly

1:17:36 > 1:17:39and then doing the squat thrusts definitely aggravated it,

1:17:39 > 1:17:42so they've advised me not to go ahead and do the dips.

1:17:42 > 1:17:44And so it was the chance for the men next.

1:17:44 > 1:17:46Peter Wilson had a tough one,

1:17:46 > 1:17:48he was up against Andy Triggs Hodge.

1:17:50 > 1:17:51And Peter Wilson,

1:17:51 > 1:17:54well, he had a valiant attempt at the squat thrust, he scored 60.

1:17:54 > 1:17:57But Andy Triggs Hodge set the standard for everybody else

1:17:57 > 1:18:00and went out to 83 repetitions.

1:18:05 > 1:18:08Andy Triggs Hodge was in his element.

1:18:08 > 1:18:09Next up, it was Michael Jamieson

1:18:09 > 1:18:12who was up against Jonathan Brownlee.

1:18:13 > 1:18:15And Michael Jamieson on the left hand side of the screen

1:18:15 > 1:18:19was going like a train, Jonny Brownlee trying to keep pace.

1:18:21 > 1:18:24Well, Andy Triggs Hodge had set the standard at 83,

1:18:24 > 1:18:27Michael Jamieson was just short of that, 81 repetitions.

1:18:27 > 1:18:29Jonny Brownlee, 69.

1:18:30 > 1:18:33Next on the floor, it was Mo Farah against Robbie Grabarz,

1:18:33 > 1:18:35the two athletes going head to head.

1:18:36 > 1:18:39And Mo Farah unfortunately encountered the same problem

1:18:39 > 1:18:42as Jade Jones had done in the women's.

1:18:42 > 1:18:44A lot of his squat thrusts were disallowed,

1:18:44 > 1:18:47so Robbie Grabarz stole a march - 72 repetitions

1:18:47 > 1:18:50as opposed to Mo Farah's 57.

1:18:52 > 1:18:54Disappointment for the distance star.

1:18:56 > 1:18:57And so, finally,

1:18:57 > 1:19:00it's come down to Alistair Brownlee and Anthony Joshua

1:19:00 > 1:19:02to put on a display for the crowd

1:19:02 > 1:19:03and try and make good points.

1:19:05 > 1:19:08Anthony Joshua, he really is going very quickly indeed.

1:19:09 > 1:19:15Maybe those long legs will make short shrift

1:19:15 > 1:19:18of those batons spread across the mat.

1:19:18 > 1:19:20Anthony Joshua really is going well.

1:19:20 > 1:19:23The leader at the moment in the squat thrusts, of course,

1:19:23 > 1:19:26is Andy Triggs Hodge, 83 reps.

1:19:26 > 1:19:28Michael Jamieson, 81,

1:19:28 > 1:19:31and that certainly would take a bit of beating.

1:19:31 > 1:19:34And I wonder if Alistair Brownlee has got one eye on Jonny,

1:19:34 > 1:19:35his brother's figures of 69.

1:19:37 > 1:19:41This is a relentless pace set by Joshua.

1:19:42 > 1:19:45You'd expect that from a gold medal boxer.

1:19:46 > 1:19:49A boxer's so, so fit.

1:19:49 > 1:19:52Alistair Brownlee, fit in a different way.

1:19:52 > 1:19:56And now, both of them beginning to suffer just a little bit.

1:19:56 > 1:19:58Anthony Joshua heading towards 70.

1:20:00 > 1:20:03Alistair Brownlee's going to finish on 65.

1:20:03 > 1:20:07And Joshua, the champion, of course, 72 reps altogether.

1:20:08 > 1:20:10A fascinating overall result.

1:20:10 > 1:20:13Andy Triggs Hodge is the best squat thruster there, 83 repetitions,

1:20:13 > 1:20:16just ahead of Michael Jamieson.

1:20:16 > 1:20:21And the second gym tests, of course, is the dips, a Superstars classic.

1:20:21 > 1:20:23Lizzie Armitstead went on her own

1:20:23 > 1:20:25because of the withdrawal of Katherine Grainger.

1:20:25 > 1:20:27She managed just two,

1:20:27 > 1:20:31which lifted her total for the two exercises to 70.

1:20:31 > 1:20:35Next up, it was Christine Ohuruogu against Nicola Adams.

1:20:35 > 1:20:38Both athletes fancied their chances at the dips contest

1:20:38 > 1:20:40and so it proved to be.

1:20:40 > 1:20:42Christine Ohuruogu amassed 24,

1:20:42 > 1:20:44Nicola Adams, 21.

1:20:44 > 1:20:46Good totals for both.

1:20:50 > 1:20:54Next up, it was Jade Jones up against Gemma Gibbons

1:20:54 > 1:20:56and Jade Jones had to produce something special here

1:20:56 > 1:21:00to keep her hopes alive after a disappointing squat thrusts.

1:21:00 > 1:21:05She did well, she equalled Christine Ohuruogu, 24 dips,

1:21:05 > 1:21:09and that gave her an overall total of 82.

1:21:09 > 1:21:12Gemma Gibbons tried her heart out.

1:21:12 > 1:21:16She scored 15, but also scored a total of 82

1:21:16 > 1:21:19combining the squat thrusts with the dips.

1:21:21 > 1:21:23No lack of effort from either competitor.

1:21:28 > 1:21:31And so it's come down to the final pairing,

1:21:31 > 1:21:34Helen Glover and Laura Bechtolsheimer

1:21:34 > 1:21:36to decide Superstars 2012.

1:21:37 > 1:21:39Laura on the left hand side,

1:21:39 > 1:21:41Helen on the right.

1:21:41 > 1:21:44And Helen has amassed so many points so far...

1:21:45 > 1:21:47..certainly in the squat thrusts,

1:21:47 > 1:21:52that it looks as though with her first dip she's going to go ahead.

1:21:55 > 1:21:57Look at the technique of Laura,

1:21:57 > 1:21:59a little bit of a cycling action there.

1:21:59 > 1:22:03Just finding it a little bit tough on the parallel bars

1:22:03 > 1:22:06but she's managing to get quite a few.

1:22:08 > 1:22:10Helen Glover just taking her time.

1:22:12 > 1:22:14The leading dips scores so far and held

1:22:14 > 1:22:18by both Jade Jones and Christine Ohuruogu on 24 each.

1:22:19 > 1:22:22Well, those elbows have got to go down to 90 degrees

1:22:22 > 1:22:28and then back up to the straight position to be counted as a dip.

1:22:28 > 1:22:30And Laura, well, she's just short of 90 there

1:22:30 > 1:22:33and maybe that one wasn't counted.

1:22:33 > 1:22:36You can take a rest within the time limit.

1:22:36 > 1:22:39Helen Glover still going well.

1:22:39 > 1:22:41And that is it

1:22:41 > 1:22:44and certainly, unofficially, it looks as though Helen Glover

1:22:44 > 1:22:46has done enough to take the Superstars title

1:22:46 > 1:22:48and win the gym tests as well.

1:22:49 > 1:22:50Helen Glover confirmed

1:22:50 > 1:22:52as the winner of the gym tests,

1:22:52 > 1:22:53Christine Ohuruogu in second

1:22:53 > 1:22:55and Nicola Adams in third.

1:22:55 > 1:22:57But who officially is the champion?

1:22:59 > 1:23:02The results are in and it couldn't have finished much closer than this.

1:23:02 > 1:23:06I can tell you only half a point separated third and second.

1:23:06 > 1:23:08Third was...

1:23:08 > 1:23:10It was yourself, Laura.

1:23:10 > 1:23:11Fantastic.

1:23:11 > 1:23:12Thank you very much.

1:23:12 > 1:23:16Very strange technique, I must admit, with the legs kicking out.

1:23:16 > 1:23:18That might need a bit of work I think, yeah.

1:23:18 > 1:23:21And, Jade, really strong to get second place.

1:23:21 > 1:23:25Yeah, yeah, obviously gutted. Hopefully, it's back on next year.

1:23:25 > 1:23:26I'm going to train my arse off.

1:23:26 > 1:23:29Well... You're gutted with second?

1:23:29 > 1:23:32Yeah, but, hopefully, we'll all come back again and do it again.

1:23:32 > 1:23:35- But well done.- Well, there can only be one winner today. Fantastic.

1:23:35 > 1:23:37You were an absolute beast on that.

1:23:37 > 1:23:39Thank you. I think I had an advantage going last,

1:23:39 > 1:23:42cos I could see what everyone else did and what I needed to get so, but no, it's was fun.

1:23:42 > 1:23:45And it's been just the best weekend ever with these guys,

1:23:45 > 1:23:46it's been amazing, so much fun.

1:23:46 > 1:23:48Well done, Helen.

1:23:48 > 1:23:50In the end, a victory by 14 and a half points,

1:23:50 > 1:23:52Jade's gym tests sealed second

1:23:52 > 1:23:54and Laura's consistency

1:23:54 > 1:23:56is rewarded with third place overall.

1:23:58 > 1:24:01And so it's the turn of the men now.

1:24:01 > 1:24:04Andy Triggs Hodge, he leads off, alongside Peter Wilson.

1:24:05 > 1:24:07HE LAUGHS

1:24:07 > 1:24:09Well, Peter Wilson has had a smile on his face

1:24:09 > 1:24:12right since the beginning of the competition.

1:24:13 > 1:24:14He found the dips a little bit tough,

1:24:14 > 1:24:16only scoring six.

1:24:16 > 1:24:19Andy Triggs Hodge did a little better,

1:24:19 > 1:24:21a running start,

1:24:21 > 1:24:2726 in total to add to his 83 squat thrusts, a total of 109.

1:24:30 > 1:24:32Next up, we saw Michael Jamieson,

1:24:32 > 1:24:34who went head to head with Jonny Brownlee.

1:24:37 > 1:24:39And Jonny Brownlee and Michael Jamieson

1:24:39 > 1:24:41went off very quickly indeed,

1:24:41 > 1:24:44but Michael Jamieson began to show his class early doors.

1:24:44 > 1:24:47He scored 46 in total, absolutely wonderful.

1:24:47 > 1:24:50Jonny Brownlee only scored nine.

1:24:51 > 1:24:55But Michael Jamieson's total for the two events is 127,

1:24:55 > 1:24:57that was a big lead over everybody.

1:25:00 > 1:25:02Then it was a chance for the athletes,

1:25:02 > 1:25:04Mo Farah up against Robbie Grabarz.

1:25:06 > 1:25:09Well, Mo found the squat thrusts a little bit difficult,

1:25:09 > 1:25:12but was quite impressive in the dips for a middle distance runner,

1:25:12 > 1:25:15not renowned for having great upper body strength.

1:25:15 > 1:25:18Robbie Grabarz taking a little pause there,

1:25:18 > 1:25:20but was headed towards a fine total.

1:25:21 > 1:25:25And Robbie, in the end, given 30 for a total of 102.

1:25:25 > 1:25:26Mo Farah scored 18.

1:25:28 > 1:25:31And then finally Alistair Brownlee up against our champion,

1:25:31 > 1:25:33Anthony Joshua.

1:25:33 > 1:25:36Great things expected of Anthony Joshua on the left hand side.

1:25:38 > 1:25:40He's been a wonderful athlete

1:25:40 > 1:25:42all the way through Superstars,

1:25:42 > 1:25:45making these dips look very easy indeed.

1:25:45 > 1:25:47He's a big, tall fella.

1:25:47 > 1:25:49Alistair Brownlee...

1:25:49 > 1:25:51Well, his aim is to get equal

1:25:51 > 1:25:53with his brother Jonny,

1:25:53 > 1:25:56who scored nine repetitions altogether.

1:25:56 > 1:25:59And look at the contrast in rhythm and strength and endurance.

1:26:00 > 1:26:04Anthony Joshua, of course, chasing the overall total

1:26:04 > 1:26:07of 127 by Michael Jamieson...

1:26:08 > 1:26:11..just to re-emphasise his superiority

1:26:11 > 1:26:13in this Superstars competition.

1:26:13 > 1:26:14He's going well.

1:26:14 > 1:26:17He's going to have to score well over 50, though,

1:26:17 > 1:26:21and that might be a big ask, even for this giant boxer.

1:26:22 > 1:26:25Alistair Brownlee just finding it all a little bit too much

1:26:25 > 1:26:28on the strength front anyway.

1:26:28 > 1:26:31And, finally, Anthony Joshua begins to come to a halt.

1:26:31 > 1:26:33What has he got left?

1:26:33 > 1:26:37There's a couple more repetitions there for our Superstars champion.

1:26:39 > 1:26:40Brownlee finishes on six,

1:26:40 > 1:26:43Anthony Joshua, 50 repetitions,

1:26:43 > 1:26:47but there is the winner of the gym tests, Michael Jamieson.

1:26:47 > 1:26:51And a comfortable winner he was in the end, 127 his total,

1:26:51 > 1:26:53but what does this result mean to

1:26:53 > 1:26:55the overall scoring of Superstars?

1:26:55 > 1:26:57It's over to you, Iwan.

1:26:57 > 1:27:00Right, the results are in. This honestly couldn't be any closer.

1:27:00 > 1:27:02Big man, we know you've won that.

1:27:02 > 1:27:04- A monster effort in the dips, you got to 50.- Yeah.

1:27:04 > 1:27:07But to win that gym test, you actually needed a few more,

1:27:07 > 1:27:08you just missed out there.

1:27:08 > 1:27:10- I missed out on the gym test?- Yeah.

1:27:10 > 1:27:12Wow. So I'd like to know who won the gym test now.

1:27:12 > 1:27:14I think we all want to know, and the winner of the gym test,

1:27:14 > 1:27:17which changes a lot, it was yourself, Michael.

1:27:17 > 1:27:20So ten points there means you go to second place overall.

1:27:20 > 1:27:22Yeah, delighted with that.

1:27:22 > 1:27:24I think the gym test is a prestigious event.

1:27:24 > 1:27:27It's the one everyone wants to win but,

1:27:27 > 1:27:31kind of earmarked this all weekend, but delighted with it, brilliant.

1:27:31 > 1:27:32Well, we know first and second.

1:27:32 > 1:27:36I can tell you third was actually a tie for points

1:27:36 > 1:27:39between Alistair and Robbie, so...

1:27:39 > 1:27:41CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

1:27:41 > 1:27:45..there can only be one bronze medallist.

1:27:45 > 1:27:46We've gone to count-back

1:27:46 > 1:27:50and because Alistair won two individual events, you came third.

1:27:50 > 1:27:53Thank you, brilliant, thanks very much. Unlucky, mate, unlucky.

1:27:53 > 1:27:56You gave it everything there though in the gym test.

1:27:56 > 1:27:58Yeah, I tried to make up some distance there

1:27:58 > 1:28:00and gap him, but it wasn't enough.

1:28:00 > 1:28:02Well, I think you've all been absolutely fantastic

1:28:02 > 1:28:04over this two-day period.

1:28:04 > 1:28:06Everybody, round of applause for the men, the Superstars.

1:28:06 > 1:28:09CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
