0:00:11 > 0:00:14Hello, and welcome to marvellous Rio de Janeiro,

0:00:14 > 0:00:17host of the Games of the 31st Olympiad,

0:00:17 > 0:00:19and what an Olympics it's been for Team GB

0:00:19 > 0:00:22and, in particular, for the Scottish athletes.

0:00:35 > 0:00:39Yes, these last two weeks have been our most successful on foreign soil,

0:00:39 > 0:00:42equalling a best ever performance at the Olympics

0:00:42 > 0:00:43for Scottish athletes.

0:00:43 > 0:00:47We've won gold medals in rowing, cycling and tennis.

0:00:47 > 0:00:50In the next 30 minutes, we'll relive the best of the action

0:00:50 > 0:00:53and we'll hear from many of the medallists.

0:01:05 > 0:01:0851 Scottish athletes arrived in Rio as part of Team GB,

0:01:08 > 0:01:12the largest ever Scottish contingent for an away Olympics,

0:01:12 > 0:01:15and hopes were high of a medal tally reaching double figures.

0:01:15 > 0:01:18Well, that target was reached comfortably and more.

0:01:18 > 0:01:20Here at the velodrome, there was great success,

0:01:20 > 0:01:23with Callum Skinner and Katie Archibald

0:01:23 > 0:01:25part of a dominant cycling squad.

0:01:28 > 0:01:31Team GB won the men's team sprint in Beijing and London

0:01:31 > 0:01:34with the now retired Sir Chris Hoy at the heart of the team.

0:01:34 > 0:01:39So there were some big pedals to fill for 22-year-old Callum Skinner,

0:01:39 > 0:01:42selected to race alongside London gold medallists

0:01:42 > 0:01:44Jason Kenny and Philip Hindes.

0:01:44 > 0:01:48Although defending champions, they were 14-1 outsiders

0:01:48 > 0:01:50to retain their title.

0:01:50 > 0:01:52They faced reigning world champions

0:01:52 > 0:01:55and fastest qualifiers New Zealand in the final.

0:01:55 > 0:01:57And Callum Skinner managed to get on.

0:01:57 > 0:02:00He's just beautifully placed to take over.

0:02:00 > 0:02:02As Jason Kenny hands it over

0:02:02 > 0:02:04and Great Britain are in the lead, but only just.

0:02:04 > 0:02:05It's so, so close here.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07It's all going to come down to this last half-lap.

0:02:07 > 0:02:09It's Callum Skinner against Dawkins.

0:02:09 > 0:02:12Who's going to claim the gold medal here in Rio?

0:02:12 > 0:02:16Up towards the line and the gold medal goes to Great Britain.

0:02:16 > 0:02:18The Olympic champions again.

0:02:18 > 0:02:21Callum Skinner brings it home for Britain.

0:02:21 > 0:02:23We were definitely outsiders.

0:02:23 > 0:02:24In previous World Championships,

0:02:24 > 0:02:27we struggled to put the ride together sometimes.

0:02:27 > 0:02:28But, as I say, our squad's just

0:02:28 > 0:02:30aimed towards getting Olympic results,

0:02:30 > 0:02:31and we came away with it,

0:02:31 > 0:02:33and couldn't have done it any better way.

0:02:33 > 0:02:35Olympic record, beating the world champions,

0:02:35 > 0:02:38and a gold medal at the end of it - couldn't be happier.

0:02:38 > 0:02:42Team-mates and roommates became rivals in the individual sprint,

0:02:42 > 0:02:46where Skinner and Kenny battled for gold and silver in the final.

0:02:48 > 0:02:49Jason Kenny at the front.

0:02:49 > 0:02:53Callum Skinner digging deep, trying to claw his way back.

0:02:53 > 0:02:54Into the finishing straight.

0:02:54 > 0:03:00Jason Kenny has got this and Jason Kenny wins the gold medal.

0:03:00 > 0:03:01And a spectacular silver

0:03:01 > 0:03:05after a series of excellent performances from Callum Skinner.

0:03:05 > 0:03:10In his first Olympic Games, he has a gold and now a silver.

0:03:10 > 0:03:12It's far beyond exceeded my expectations.

0:03:12 > 0:03:15I think, you know, coming into these competitions,

0:03:15 > 0:03:18if you'd said, "We'll give you a few more months," I would have taken it

0:03:18 > 0:03:20because we were definitely on the back foot.

0:03:20 > 0:03:23We had our fair share of really disappointing World Championships,

0:03:23 > 0:03:26but we always knew that if the team managed to stay together

0:03:26 > 0:03:27that we'd probably be world-beaters,

0:03:27 > 0:03:30and, luckily, it came together this time.

0:03:30 > 0:03:33After only taking up cycling seriously in 2011,

0:03:33 > 0:03:37Katie Archibald became part of the hugely successful team pursuit squad

0:03:37 > 0:03:38two years later.

0:03:38 > 0:03:41However, her participation in Rio was jeopardised

0:03:41 > 0:03:44by a motorbike crash late last year.

0:03:44 > 0:03:47She recovered just in time and lined up alongside Laura Trott,

0:03:47 > 0:03:50Elinor Barker and Joanna Rowsell-Shand.

0:03:50 > 0:03:53They showed they were the team to beat in qualification.

0:03:53 > 0:03:55Here they come up towards the line.

0:03:55 > 0:03:57Are they laying down a big, big marker?

0:03:57 > 0:04:00They certainly are. It's a world record marker from Great Britain.

0:04:00 > 0:04:03What a stunning start here in the velodrome.

0:04:04 > 0:04:07In the final, they lined up against big rivals and world champions,

0:04:07 > 0:04:09the USA.

0:04:11 > 0:04:16At the 1km mark, advantage, slightly, to the United States.

0:04:29 > 0:04:33And now Great Britain are starting to turn the screw here.

0:04:33 > 0:04:37Now the pressure is being put on the Americans in this final.

0:04:37 > 0:04:39The final lap of the Olympic final

0:04:39 > 0:04:43and it is going to be a ride to glory here for Great Britain.

0:04:43 > 0:04:44Up towards the line.

0:04:44 > 0:04:46Gold for Great Britain.

0:04:46 > 0:04:49They've smashed the world record.

0:05:05 > 0:05:08Yeah, I had a sneaky look at the end to see that we were there,

0:05:08 > 0:05:10and once you get that sort of, like,

0:05:10 > 0:05:13yeah, chomping on the bit kind of sensation,

0:05:13 > 0:05:15yeah, we felt like superheroes, I suppose.

0:05:16 > 0:05:18Katie Archibald!

0:05:18 > 0:05:21Got home really late last night and Jo's light was on in her room,

0:05:21 > 0:05:23and I got in, and she's lying with the lights on,

0:05:23 > 0:05:26just her medal next to her in bed!

0:05:26 > 0:05:28And, um... Yeah, I thought, "That's how I feel.

0:05:28 > 0:05:30"I'm going to go do that in private."

0:05:30 > 0:05:33Yeah, it's... Yeah, it's still surreal.

0:05:34 > 0:05:37The Lagoa rowing venue could scarcely be more scenic,

0:05:37 > 0:05:39but would it be the perfect backdrop

0:05:39 > 0:05:42for two Scottish gold medallists from London 2012,

0:05:42 > 0:05:45Heather Stanning and Katherine Grainger.

0:05:45 > 0:05:47Grainger took two years away from the sport

0:05:47 > 0:05:50and struggled in the build-up to these Olympics.

0:05:50 > 0:05:52But would there be a fairy-tale ending?

0:05:56 > 0:05:59Everything that's gone before is now irrelevant

0:05:59 > 0:06:00for the British double scull.

0:06:00 > 0:06:02Both Vicky and I said the day before,

0:06:02 > 0:06:05"We do believe there is something very special we can do.

0:06:05 > 0:06:08"We just need to make sure it comes on the Olympic final day."

0:06:08 > 0:06:09Earlier in the season, who would have said

0:06:09 > 0:06:12that the British double scull of Thornley and Grainger

0:06:12 > 0:06:14would position themselves in a fight for the gold medal here?

0:06:14 > 0:06:16There's nothing more we could have done.

0:06:16 > 0:06:18We had this incredible race.

0:06:18 > 0:06:20It was the best race we could have ever put together.

0:06:20 > 0:06:23Here come Poland. Poland getting Olympic gold.

0:06:23 > 0:06:26Great Britain's Thornley and Grainger

0:06:26 > 0:06:28getting the silver medal today.

0:06:28 > 0:06:31They have come from nowhere this season

0:06:31 > 0:06:35and they are going away Olympic silver medallists.

0:06:35 > 0:06:36It wasn't quite enough to win,

0:06:36 > 0:06:39but it was the way we wanted to go out.

0:06:39 > 0:06:41You bring everything to that moment

0:06:41 > 0:06:44and we took it on and we led the field, we did everything we could,

0:06:44 > 0:06:45and then we got the silver for it.

0:06:45 > 0:06:47What a team through this regatta.

0:06:47 > 0:06:49It's a nice feeling of contentedness

0:06:49 > 0:06:51underneath everything else that goes on,

0:06:51 > 0:06:54and then I've been lucky enough that, every single Games,

0:06:54 > 0:06:56I've come back with some sort of chunk of metal.

0:06:56 > 0:06:58It's something I'm immensely proud of,

0:06:58 > 0:07:00but I think it takes you going home

0:07:00 > 0:07:03and sitting on your sofa at home with a cup of tea

0:07:03 > 0:07:06and just think, "That's that. That's what I did."

0:07:07 > 0:07:11Defending Olympic champions, Glover and Stanning.

0:07:11 > 0:07:14By the 1,000m mark, we realised we had a really decent lead

0:07:14 > 0:07:16and probably were surprised by how much of a lead we had.

0:07:16 > 0:07:20But their position is well and truly dominating here.

0:07:20 > 0:07:21Great Britain, Glover and Stanning,

0:07:21 > 0:07:24they look back at the Olympic final...

0:07:24 > 0:07:27We had a fantastic third 500, which meant that we, you know,

0:07:27 > 0:07:29we just stayed in that dominating position,

0:07:29 > 0:07:31so when it came to the last 500,

0:07:31 > 0:07:33it was all about just not messing up.

0:07:33 > 0:07:37Great Britain's Glover and Stanning defend their Olympic title,

0:07:37 > 0:07:40and they have done it in such style.

0:07:40 > 0:07:41It's carnival time here.

0:07:41 > 0:07:44Just really pleased to have something to go home

0:07:44 > 0:07:46and show everyone who's helped us,

0:07:46 > 0:07:48and have something for Robin, who's coached us.

0:07:48 > 0:07:51I mean, he gets nothing. The coach doesn't get any recognition.

0:07:51 > 0:07:52They don't get a medal.

0:07:52 > 0:07:56Four years of the most amazing performances.

0:07:56 > 0:07:58To come away with one is amazing, but to actually have two,

0:07:58 > 0:08:02it just shows that it's not chance, what you've done.

0:08:02 > 0:08:04It's... yeah, all the training's worth it.

0:08:04 > 0:08:07And I know not everyone gets to come away with anything,

0:08:07 > 0:08:09but I think just competing...

0:08:09 > 0:08:12It is phenomenal to be an Olympian and to race,

0:08:12 > 0:08:15but it's so special to actually come away with a medal.

0:08:15 > 0:08:18Great Britain are going to go into the record books here with a medal

0:08:18 > 0:08:21and it's looking like it's going to be a silver.

0:08:21 > 0:08:23Hang on there, girls!

0:08:23 > 0:08:25They have absolutely done it.

0:08:26 > 0:08:28And there were two more Scots

0:08:28 > 0:08:30who picked up rowing medals for Team GB -

0:08:30 > 0:08:32Karen Bennett and Polly Swann

0:08:32 > 0:08:35winning silver in the women's eight.

0:08:35 > 0:08:38A first ever medal in the big boat for the British women.

0:08:39 > 0:08:41It was incredible

0:08:41 > 0:08:43and just...

0:08:43 > 0:08:44Yeah, these girls are strong,

0:08:44 > 0:08:46they're sassy, they're inspirational,

0:08:46 > 0:08:48and I'm so happy to be here with them.

0:08:49 > 0:08:52The Olympic tennis tournament four years ago

0:08:52 > 0:08:55is where Andy Murray's career really took off.

0:08:55 > 0:09:00Gold in London was followed by his maiden Grand Slam at the US Open

0:09:00 > 0:09:03and he came into this tournament here as Wimbledon champion.

0:09:03 > 0:09:08He also led the team proudly into these Olympics as flag bearer

0:09:08 > 0:09:10and there was also the small matter

0:09:10 > 0:09:13of a doubles competition with big brother Jamie.

0:09:15 > 0:09:17The opening ceremony allowed Andy Murray

0:09:17 > 0:09:20to tick another one off his career bucket list

0:09:20 > 0:09:23and he conserved some strength for the challenge ahead

0:09:23 > 0:09:26by carrying that flag with his left hand.

0:09:27 > 0:09:31On the court, he began where he left off at Wimbledon,

0:09:31 > 0:09:35easing past Viktor Troicki and Juan Monaco in straight sets.

0:09:35 > 0:09:38But there was a shock defeat for the Murray brothers

0:09:38 > 0:09:40in the opening round of the doubles,

0:09:40 > 0:09:45losing to home pair Sa and Bellucci after an epic third set tie-break.

0:09:45 > 0:09:48There was also a first-round doubles defeat for Colin Fleming

0:09:48 > 0:09:51alongside Dom Inglot.

0:09:51 > 0:09:55Andy Murray faced Fabio Fognini in the singles third round

0:09:55 > 0:09:58and looked to be cruising after taking the first set 6-1.

0:09:58 > 0:10:02But the Italian fought back, winning eight games in a row,

0:10:02 > 0:10:05to take the second set and lead 3-0 in the third.

0:10:05 > 0:10:08But Murray's resilience told in the end,

0:10:08 > 0:10:12turning the match around with a six-game winning streak of his own

0:10:12 > 0:10:14to reach the quarterfinals.

0:10:14 > 0:10:16That match followed a similar pattern,

0:10:16 > 0:10:20as Murray breezed through the first set against Steve Johnson 6-0.

0:10:20 > 0:10:23But the big American hit back to take the second

0:10:23 > 0:10:27and go a break up, before Murray rallied to force a tie-break.

0:10:27 > 0:10:32Again, Murray's class told as he took the tie-break 7-2.

0:10:32 > 0:10:34Finally. What a match.

0:10:34 > 0:10:38It's like two different tournaments this has been for Andy Murray.

0:10:40 > 0:10:43After the rollercoaster of the previous two rounds,

0:10:43 > 0:10:46Murray had a much easier ride against Kei Nishikori

0:10:46 > 0:10:48in the semifinals.

0:10:48 > 0:10:52In the final, he faced the conqueror of both Nadal and Djokovic,

0:10:52 > 0:10:54Argentinian Juan Martin del Potro,

0:10:54 > 0:10:57in what was to be a classic Olympic final

0:10:57 > 0:10:59in front of a passionate crowd.

0:11:01 > 0:11:06And Andy Murray does get the break in this Olympic tennis final.

0:11:06 > 0:11:09Into the net comes del Potro. Andy Murray passes him!

0:11:09 > 0:11:12First set, Andy Murray, 7-5.

0:11:14 > 0:11:16Del Potro goes down the line for the winner

0:11:16 > 0:11:20and del Potro is not giving up on his hope of a gold medal here,

0:11:20 > 0:11:22not for one second.

0:11:23 > 0:11:26Goes for the big forehand and this time he nails it.

0:11:26 > 0:11:29Juan Martin del Potro levels things up.

0:11:30 > 0:11:32Great serve from del Potro.

0:11:32 > 0:11:34Andy Murray gets the ball back, makes del Potro play.

0:11:34 > 0:11:35Chance for Andy Murray to pass.

0:11:35 > 0:11:38And a big cry of, "Yes!" from Andy Murray.

0:11:40 > 0:11:42It's an outright winner on the forehand side from Andy Murray.

0:11:42 > 0:11:45Two hours and 50 minutes. He has the third set.

0:11:47 > 0:11:49To the del Potro backhand. He goes for the drop shot.

0:11:49 > 0:11:51It looks good. It's brilliant from Andy Murray.

0:11:51 > 0:11:56He has retrieved the break with a wonderful piece of tennis skill.

0:11:56 > 0:11:57What a rally this is.

0:11:57 > 0:12:00Huge forehand from del Potro. Murray is there.

0:12:00 > 0:12:02In he comes towards the net. Del Potro's at the net.

0:12:02 > 0:12:05Andy Murray...wins the point. What a point!

0:12:05 > 0:12:08It was the point worthy of an Olympic champion

0:12:08 > 0:12:11and I wonder if Juan Martin del Potro knows it.

0:12:11 > 0:12:14Andy Murray makes del Potro work. He's coming into the net.

0:12:14 > 0:12:19It won't get there. Game, set, match, Andy Murray.

0:12:19 > 0:12:21Once again Olympic champion.

0:12:21 > 0:12:24In London 2012, Olympic champion.

0:12:24 > 0:12:28Rio 2016, absolutely amazing.

0:12:30 > 0:12:32I'm very proud to have done it.

0:12:32 > 0:12:34It was... yeah, a brutal match, obviously.

0:12:34 > 0:12:37You know, four...four hours or so,

0:12:37 > 0:12:40and a lot of ups and downs as well.

0:12:40 > 0:12:42It's been a great few months for me.

0:12:42 > 0:12:45I'm very happy with how my tennis is going, obviously.

0:12:45 > 0:12:48I'm glad to have won another gold medal.

0:12:50 > 0:12:53Obviously, a lot of the Argentinians were here supporting,

0:12:53 > 0:12:56and then there was, you know, a bunch of Brits in the crowd,

0:12:56 > 0:12:59and the Brazilians were, you know, supporting me,

0:12:59 > 0:13:02so it was very...very split and...

0:13:02 > 0:13:06Yeah, I think... I mean, I don't know what it was like to watch,

0:13:06 > 0:13:07but it felt like at the end...

0:13:07 > 0:13:10I mean, some of the points and the games

0:13:10 > 0:13:12were really, really good, high quality,

0:13:12 > 0:13:16and it was fitting, I think, for an Olympics final.

0:13:16 > 0:13:19After great success at the World Championships,

0:13:19 > 0:13:24the Team GB swimming squad travelled to Rio with plenty of confidence.

0:13:24 > 0:13:26At the heart of that squad,

0:13:26 > 0:13:29a quartet of Stirling University-based swimmers,

0:13:29 > 0:13:33all hoping to emulate Michael Jamieson's success at London 2012.

0:13:36 > 0:13:38Amid all the glory of London,

0:13:38 > 0:13:41the swimming was seen as a rare disappointment for Team GB,

0:13:41 > 0:13:44with Jamieson and Becky Adlington the only medallists.

0:13:44 > 0:13:48This time out, the relays brought a number of realistic medal chances.

0:13:48 > 0:13:52There was an all-Scottish line-up in the men's 4x200m freestyle heat.

0:13:52 > 0:13:56Robbie Renwick was replaced by James Guy in the final,

0:13:56 > 0:13:58in which they faced a strong USA team

0:13:58 > 0:14:01featuring Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps.

0:14:03 > 0:14:07But a great turn from James Guy and we can get the silver medal here.

0:14:07 > 0:14:08Come on, James Guy.

0:14:08 > 0:14:11It's gold to the USA at the moment, but Great Britain's James Guy

0:14:11 > 0:14:15bringing Team Great Britain into the silver medal position just about.

0:14:15 > 0:14:19A wonderful battle going on there with the Japanese up in 2.

0:14:19 > 0:14:20It's USA going to win it.

0:14:20 > 0:14:23I think Great Britain are going to get the silver.

0:14:23 > 0:14:26But coming back are the Japanese, right inside this last ten metres,

0:14:26 > 0:14:27Can we get silver?

0:14:27 > 0:14:28Gold to USA,

0:14:28 > 0:14:30silver to Great Britain

0:14:30 > 0:14:31and bronze to Japan,

0:14:31 > 0:14:34and what a fabulous team effort that was.

0:14:34 > 0:14:35It was like a dream come true

0:14:35 > 0:14:38to come here to my first Olympics and get a medal,

0:14:38 > 0:14:41and it's great to be with these guys as well, to smash it up.

0:14:41 > 0:14:44To win an Olympic medal is, you know, a dream of mine,

0:14:44 > 0:14:46and now that I've got one, I kind of want more,

0:14:46 > 0:14:50so I think get back in the pool and train for the next four years.

0:14:50 > 0:14:52Duncan Scott!

0:14:52 > 0:14:56What a Games for 19-year-old Duncan Scott.

0:14:56 > 0:14:59He broke the British record on the way to a fifth place finish

0:14:59 > 0:15:02in the blue riband 100m freestyle final

0:15:02 > 0:15:07and then won his second silver of the Games in the medley relay,

0:15:07 > 0:15:10anchoring the team home behind that man Phelps.

0:15:10 > 0:15:12Went better than I could have planned, really.

0:15:12 > 0:15:14I mean, it's just gone to the perfect...

0:15:14 > 0:15:17I was sitting down with Steve Tigg a couple weeks ago,

0:15:17 > 0:15:20going, "So if this happens, you'll be in the final of the 100 free,

0:15:20 > 0:15:21"you'll have a morning off."

0:15:21 > 0:15:24I'm, like, "Yeah, that's probably not going to happen."

0:15:24 > 0:15:27But, yeah, it's all just gone to plan, it's all just been perfect,

0:15:27 > 0:15:30so, yeah, the stars have been aligned.

0:15:30 > 0:15:32It only happens a couple of times in your career.

0:15:32 > 0:15:35So, yeah, just got to take it as it is.

0:15:36 > 0:15:38Competing in her third Olympics,

0:15:38 > 0:15:42Hannah Miley went into the 400m individual medley

0:15:42 > 0:15:44as Commonwealth champion

0:15:44 > 0:15:46and with a genuine chance of a first Olympic medal.

0:15:46 > 0:15:49She qualified fourth fastest for the final,

0:15:49 > 0:15:53where Hungarian superstar Katinka Hosszu was the hot favourite.

0:15:54 > 0:15:56But look at the battle for bronze.

0:15:56 > 0:15:58It's gold, it's world record, for Hosszu.

0:15:58 > 0:16:01It's silver in lane 3 to Dirado.

0:16:01 > 0:16:04Oh, and the bronze has just gone to Belmonte on the touch.

0:16:04 > 0:16:07Oh, my goodness me, that was so close for Hannah Miley.

0:16:07 > 0:16:11Miley's got fourth. Very, very brave swim indeed. 4.32 from her.

0:16:11 > 0:16:14I had my head down, I could see her,

0:16:14 > 0:16:16and I knew she was coming back at me, and I had nothing left.

0:16:16 > 0:16:18I gave that everything I had.

0:16:18 > 0:16:20It's just such a mixture of emotions

0:16:20 > 0:16:22cos I'm so happy with the fact

0:16:22 > 0:16:25that I've actually gone faster than what I did in the heats,

0:16:25 > 0:16:27so much better than what I did in London,

0:16:27 > 0:16:29but it's just hard because it was just so close.

0:16:29 > 0:16:32I was so close to getting it

0:16:32 > 0:16:34and, yeah, it's just kind of...

0:16:34 > 0:16:37happy and kind of disappointment all coming together,

0:16:37 > 0:16:41and this is what I... this is what you're getting, so...

0:16:41 > 0:16:42You have to go back to 1988

0:16:42 > 0:16:45for the last time a Scottish track and field athlete

0:16:45 > 0:16:48won an individual Olympic medal.

0:16:48 > 0:16:49This time around in Rio,

0:16:49 > 0:16:53there was an amazing 15 Scots' names in the GB athletics team.

0:16:53 > 0:16:58The likes of Laura Muir, the new British record holder over 1,500m,

0:16:58 > 0:17:03and Eilidh Doyle, the 400m hurdler, were among our main medal hopes.

0:17:05 > 0:17:09After a strong season, including a new personal best set during

0:17:09 > 0:17:11a Diamond League win in June,

0:17:11 > 0:17:15Eilidh Doyle entered her second Olympic Games with realistic medal

0:17:15 > 0:17:20hopes in both the 400 metres hurdles and the 4x400 metre relay.

0:17:20 > 0:17:24She made the final of the hurdles but finished in eighth place,

0:17:24 > 0:17:25behind winner Dalilah Muhammad.

0:17:27 > 0:17:30As part of a relay squad with Anyika Anoura, Emily Diamond

0:17:30 > 0:17:34and Christine Ohuruogu, they progressed to the final to battle

0:17:34 > 0:17:38for a medal behind the dominant American and Jamaican teams.

0:17:38 > 0:17:40STARTING PISTOL

0:17:40 > 0:17:43So Eilidh Doyle takes Great Britain away.

0:17:43 > 0:17:48Eilidh Doyle doing a great job here. USA, Jamaica, very tight for third.

0:17:48 > 0:17:51And Emily Diamond is waiting, but it will be Canada in front and

0:17:51 > 0:17:54Poland, and then Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

0:17:54 > 0:17:56Emily Diamond now has a bit to do.

0:17:57 > 0:18:00This is a brilliant run from Emily Diamond.

0:18:00 > 0:18:03USA lead, Jamaica second, Great Britain in third.

0:18:03 > 0:18:05Christine Ohuruogu has got the baton.

0:18:06 > 0:18:08The United States coming home.

0:18:08 > 0:18:11It's Allyson Felix, the wonderful, brilliant Allyson Felix.

0:18:11 > 0:18:13Going for gold, going to win gold.

0:18:13 > 0:18:16Jamaica with the silver and, behind them,

0:18:16 > 0:18:20Ohuruogu is holding on, holding on, holding on to take the bronze

0:18:20 > 0:18:23for Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

0:18:23 > 0:18:25That is the best they could have expected,

0:18:25 > 0:18:30the best they could have hoped for. They have achieved it in some style.

0:18:30 > 0:18:33I think it is a mixture of relief and absolute joy.

0:18:33 > 0:18:35We knew we were capable of doing it, but you never know what is

0:18:35 > 0:18:38going to happen, so it is the relief of it happening.

0:18:38 > 0:18:41But then the actual joy that you can then just go and enjoy the

0:18:41 > 0:18:43moment, do your lap of honour, have your presentation.

0:18:43 > 0:18:45You can really take it all in.

0:18:45 > 0:18:47I have been lucky enough to have World medals and

0:18:47 > 0:18:49Commonwealth and Europeans and, you know,

0:18:49 > 0:18:51I wanted to get the final one to go in the set.

0:18:51 > 0:18:53I am absolutely delighted.

0:18:53 > 0:18:56Like I said, that is the one you dream of when you're younger and

0:18:56 > 0:18:58you start taking part in sport, especially an athletics.

0:18:58 > 0:19:01The Olympics is the absolute pinnacle of our sport.

0:19:01 > 0:19:04Us Scots are very patriotic, so it's nice to be in that

0:19:04 > 0:19:07group that have done so well. It is just great.

0:19:07 > 0:19:10There is a lot of morale in the team and everybody is just

0:19:10 > 0:19:12supporting each other, and it's great to be part of it.

0:19:12 > 0:19:14I think that's why we have had so much success -

0:19:14 > 0:19:17because everybody is driving up everybody else's performances.

0:19:19 > 0:19:22Laura Muir arrived in Rio in the form of her life,

0:19:22 > 0:19:26after breaking the British record over the 1,500 metres last month -

0:19:26 > 0:19:31a record set by Kelly Holmes while winning gold in Athens.

0:19:31 > 0:19:34So with the second fastest time in the world this year,

0:19:34 > 0:19:36Muir was looking for a medal.

0:19:36 > 0:19:37She ran bravely in the final,

0:19:37 > 0:19:41taking on the Africans at the front in pursuit of gold,

0:19:41 > 0:19:44but faded down the home straight to finish seventh.

0:19:46 > 0:19:48I went for it. It's not every day you find yourself

0:19:48 > 0:19:51in an Olympic final, so I know I was in great shape to do everything.

0:19:51 > 0:19:56The last 150 wasn't quite in me, but the girls had a better race

0:19:56 > 0:19:58on the day, but I gave my absolute everything.

0:19:58 > 0:20:00I am really proud of how I have run.

0:20:01 > 0:20:04There were a number of other Scottish finalists on the track.

0:20:04 > 0:20:07Lynsey Sharp set a new national record in finishing sixth in

0:20:07 > 0:20:09the 800m,

0:20:09 > 0:20:10behind Caster Semenya.

0:20:14 > 0:20:15And just 30 minutes later,

0:20:15 > 0:20:19Andrew Butchart also established a new national best

0:20:19 > 0:20:23over 5,000m, finishing sixth as Mo Farah made history.

0:20:23 > 0:20:25Chelimo is trying but he is not going to get him.

0:20:25 > 0:20:28Mo Farah has gone. He's away.

0:20:29 > 0:20:33Mo Farah is going to get gold for Great Britain again.

0:20:33 > 0:20:34The double double.

0:20:36 > 0:20:40Four Olympic titles, as Butchart runs a great race.

0:20:41 > 0:20:44Eilish McColgan also made her first Olympic final,

0:20:44 > 0:20:47coming home 13th in the women's 5,000m.

0:20:49 > 0:20:53And, in his first Olympic Games, Callum Hawkins finished a hugely

0:20:53 > 0:20:55impressive ninth in the men's marathon.

0:20:57 > 0:21:00Several Scots here have plenty of Olympic experience,

0:21:00 > 0:21:03in particular Aberdeen's David Florence.

0:21:03 > 0:21:06The canoeist got silver in Beijing in 2008,

0:21:06 > 0:21:09another silver at London 2012.

0:21:09 > 0:21:12Could he use these Olympic rings as inspiration as

0:21:12 > 0:21:14he tried to upgrade to gold here in Rio?

0:21:16 > 0:21:19Florence entered the Games as world champion

0:21:19 > 0:21:21in the individual C1 category.

0:21:21 > 0:21:24Having travelled regularly to the Whitewater Stadium in the

0:21:24 > 0:21:27build-up, he progressed smoothly to the final,

0:21:27 > 0:21:30not even requiring his second qualification run.

0:21:30 > 0:21:33However, things did not go to plan in the final.

0:21:33 > 0:21:36Florence making a number of mistakes on his run,

0:21:36 > 0:21:39seeing him finish a hugely disappointing last.

0:21:39 > 0:21:42A devastating result for the 33-year-old,

0:21:42 > 0:21:44but he had little time to dwell on it.

0:21:44 > 0:21:47Just two days later, he was back on the water

0:21:47 > 0:21:50with team-mate Richard Hounslow in the C2 class,

0:21:50 > 0:21:54looking to go one better than the silver medal they won in London.

0:21:54 > 0:21:57This is the moment of truth for Great Britain.

0:21:57 > 0:22:00Are they going to add to the gold taken by Joe Clarke yesterday?

0:22:00 > 0:22:01Not quite.

0:22:01 > 0:22:06They go 0.43 outside, but it was a wonderful effort from

0:22:06 > 0:22:08David Florence, Richard Hounslow.

0:22:08 > 0:22:11They are into the silver medal position,

0:22:11 > 0:22:14which is exactly where they were in London in 2012.

0:22:14 > 0:22:17In our sport, to have gone to three consecutive Olympics and got

0:22:17 > 0:22:20a medal every time is something that is very hard to do.

0:22:20 > 0:22:22I am very proud of that.

0:22:22 > 0:22:26To have come here and won gold would have been absolutely unbelievable.

0:22:26 > 0:22:28But to have come here and not won any medal,

0:22:28 > 0:22:32I would really have felt I should have done better than that,

0:22:32 > 0:22:35so I'm really pleased to be on the podium today.

0:22:37 > 0:22:41Rugby sevens made its debut as an Olympic sport in Rio and two

0:22:41 > 0:22:45Scots, Mark Bennett and Mark Robertson, featured in the squad.

0:22:45 > 0:22:48It was three wins out of three in the group stages for Team GB,

0:22:48 > 0:22:51including an impressive 21-19 victory over New Zealand.

0:22:52 > 0:22:54The Scotsman with the kick ahead.

0:22:54 > 0:22:58The bounce needs to be good. He pauses. He dances.

0:22:58 > 0:23:00Great Britain take the lead through Mark Bennett.

0:23:02 > 0:23:05They then faced Argentina in a very tight quarterfinal that

0:23:05 > 0:23:08went to extra time.

0:23:08 > 0:23:10On the outside. Norton outside him...

0:23:10 > 0:23:12CHEERING

0:23:13 > 0:23:18The try that puts Great Britain into the semifinals.

0:23:18 > 0:23:22It was second seeds South Africa in the semis for the chance

0:23:22 > 0:23:23to play for gold.

0:23:23 > 0:23:29One-on-one. Norton eases past Dylan Sage. Great Britain's first try.

0:23:30 > 0:23:34In the final, they met pretournament favourites Fiji.

0:23:36 > 0:23:39Kolinisau, the captain of Fiji, scores the first try.

0:23:40 > 0:23:44The sevens specialists proved too strong for Team GB, running

0:23:44 > 0:23:48in five unanswered first-half tries on the way to a 43-7 victory.

0:23:51 > 0:23:54The gold a first ever Olympic medal for Fiji,

0:23:54 > 0:23:57a huge moment for the Pacific Islanders.

0:23:58 > 0:24:02Silver, though, a fine reward for Bennett and Robertson and the GB

0:24:02 > 0:24:04team only put together in late May.

0:24:10 > 0:24:13There was also a medal in judo for 29-year-old Sally Conway,

0:24:13 > 0:24:17who battled her way to bronze in the under-70kg category.

0:24:19 > 0:24:21An ippon awarded for Sally Conway.

0:24:23 > 0:24:26An Olympic semifinal awaits Britain's Sally Conway.

0:24:26 > 0:24:28A third ippon in a row.

0:24:30 > 0:24:33All of the girls I fought on 10th August, I'd either never

0:24:33 > 0:24:37beaten before or they've beaten me more times than I've beaten them.

0:24:37 > 0:24:40So I had my work cut out for me that day and I knew, if I was going

0:24:40 > 0:24:43to beat these girls, I would have to put in my best performance.

0:24:43 > 0:24:45I'm so happy I was able to do that.

0:24:45 > 0:24:49To eventually reach my dream of becoming an Olympic medallist is

0:24:49 > 0:24:50just like a dream come true.

0:24:50 > 0:24:53Starting to sink in a bit more now and I just have to sometimes

0:24:53 > 0:24:56keep reminding myself, "You've got an Olympic medal."

0:24:56 > 0:24:58The other day I hadn't seen it for the whole day and I was like,

0:24:58 > 0:25:00"Oh, I'll just have a little peeky look!"

0:25:02 > 0:25:05If it wasn't for everybody in Judo Scotland, British Judo

0:25:05 > 0:25:08that helped me prepare for this medal and kind of always

0:25:08 > 0:25:09believed and supported me,

0:25:09 > 0:25:13then I wouldn't be sat here today with this round my neck.

0:25:13 > 0:25:18Sally's medal one of 13 won by Scots at Rio 2016 -

0:25:18 > 0:25:23four gold, seven silver and two bronze - a truly fantastic return.

0:25:23 > 0:25:27And the man tasked with looking after the elite of Scottish sport

0:25:27 > 0:25:29firmly believes there is more to come.

0:25:29 > 0:25:31They are now using the line, I believe,

0:25:31 > 0:25:34that we are a superpower of sport.

0:25:34 > 0:25:38And, from our perspective, this is Scotland punching above its weight.

0:25:38 > 0:25:41Our contribution towards this has been massive.

0:25:41 > 0:25:44We've achieved, I think, the best ever number of medals,

0:25:44 > 0:25:48not only at away Games, we've equalled London, with 13.

0:25:48 > 0:25:5316 medallists, the widest number of sports that we've ever won from,

0:25:53 > 0:25:55which is fantastic.

0:25:55 > 0:25:59If you calculate it, seven of those 13 medals were from female

0:25:59 > 0:26:01athletes and that's another first as well.

0:26:01 > 0:26:03Although, you know, medals are important,

0:26:03 > 0:26:06I think there is some other really important stories.

0:26:06 > 0:26:08Look at someone like Andrew Butchart, a lovely story here.

0:26:08 > 0:26:11Who would have thought he would have made the team?

0:26:11 > 0:26:13Who would have thought he would have got to the final?

0:26:13 > 0:26:16And who would have thought he would end up in top six as well?

0:26:16 > 0:26:20It just shows, those youngsters training back in Stirling or

0:26:20 > 0:26:25wherever, Glasgow or Edinburgh, can aspire to this level

0:26:25 > 0:26:26and can deliver.

0:26:29 > 0:26:32Already people are talking about, what are we going to do in Tokyo?

0:26:32 > 0:26:35Maybe we need a period of consolidation.

0:26:35 > 0:26:39Certainly, in Scotland, I think what we'd like to do is look at the

0:26:39 > 0:26:42reviews, look at the performance behind the performances and

0:26:42 > 0:26:46not ignore other important sports that are going on as well.

0:26:46 > 0:26:49Andy Murray leads out Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

0:26:49 > 0:26:54Of those 51 Scots that made Team GB, almost 50% are based in

0:26:54 > 0:26:58Scotland, training in Scotland with our support and our investment,

0:26:58 > 0:27:01and some of those medals were home-grown. Look at our swimmers.

0:27:01 > 0:27:03These are guys that are based in Scotland,

0:27:03 > 0:27:06train in Scotland at our world-class facilities.

0:27:06 > 0:27:10I think that is a strong message to prove that we have a system,

0:27:10 > 0:27:14we don't have to send athletes down south, we can look after them.

0:27:14 > 0:27:17But all credit to the athletes and well done, Scottish Swimming.

0:27:20 > 0:27:22As the Rio Olympics come to an end,

0:27:22 > 0:27:25the sport largely became the main focus.

0:27:25 > 0:27:28Many of the pre-Games issues and potential problems

0:27:28 > 0:27:30faded into the background.

0:27:30 > 0:27:34Team GB topped the tally from London four years ago to celebrate

0:27:34 > 0:27:36its best overseas Games.

0:27:36 > 0:27:4013 of the 67 medals won came from Scots,

0:27:40 > 0:27:43equalling their best ever performance at the Olympics.

0:27:43 > 0:27:46Yes, it's fair to say that Scottish athletes making the GB team

0:27:46 > 0:27:50in four years' time for the next Summer Olympics in Tokyo have

0:27:50 > 0:27:52a lot to live up to.

0:27:52 > 0:27:55Thank you very much for watching, we hope you enjoyed the programme.

0:27:55 > 0:27:56Bye-bye for now.

0:27:58 > 0:28:01# Stand on up and take a bow

0:28:01 > 0:28:04# There's something there and it's showing

0:28:04 > 0:28:06# There's no need to look around
