0:02:13 > 0:02:17What we are seeing right now is that dreams do come true.

0:02:17 > 0:02:21You are the double Olympic champion, Kelly Holmes.

0:02:21 > 0:02:25There was a huge amount of pressure coming into this, and I've done it,

0:02:25 > 0:02:26and I can't believe I've done it!

0:02:30 > 0:02:33Well, the band, as you can see, are here and warming up and,

0:02:33 > 0:02:35pretty soon, this whole room will be filled

0:02:35 > 0:02:37with British Olympic athletes.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40Now, a short while ago, Nick's been chatting to the two people

0:02:40 > 0:02:43who are key to making sure the whole night runs smoothly.

0:02:47 > 0:02:49I'm here with the two hosts for tonight.

0:02:49 > 0:02:52Claudia Winkleman - you might know her from TV - and Tom Daley.

0:02:52 > 0:02:54- He's done a little bit of diving. - Here or there.

0:02:54 > 0:02:55Well, great to see you guys.

0:02:55 > 0:02:57First of all, did you see the Olympics this summer

0:02:57 > 0:02:59and what were your moments?

0:02:59 > 0:03:00Erm, there were so many moments.

0:03:00 > 0:03:02I was just, like, overspilling with pride.

0:03:02 > 0:03:05Bearing in mind that I can't even do a hopscotch without

0:03:05 > 0:03:09having a nap. Everything I watch, my mind just...almost exploded.

0:03:09 > 0:03:11I loved the women's hockey team.

0:03:11 > 0:03:15I could not believe it. I found myself in bed screaming,

0:03:15 > 0:03:18throwing pillows, going, "They're amazing! They're amazing!"

0:03:18 > 0:03:20You know, Maddie and Hollie, all of them,

0:03:20 > 0:03:22- that was my probably stand-out moment.- It was incredible.

0:03:22 > 0:03:25Tom, obviously that amazing bronze medal alongside Dan Goodfellow.

0:03:25 > 0:03:27Any other highlights?

0:03:27 > 0:03:30I mean, for us, the whole diving team did so incredibly well

0:03:30 > 0:03:33and, you know, Jack and Chris, when they won the Olympic gold,

0:03:33 > 0:03:35you know, it was one of those moments that I will never

0:03:35 > 0:03:37ever forget. So, to be part of that team,

0:03:37 > 0:03:41and just the fact that we're the most successful Team GB team ever

0:03:41 > 0:03:44is just something... You know, it's amazing to be part of that.

0:03:44 > 0:03:45Strictly Come Dancing,

0:03:45 > 0:03:48we see Olympians doing well every single year.

0:03:48 > 0:03:50What makes it so special for them?

0:03:50 > 0:03:52I don't... They do incredibly well.

0:03:52 > 0:03:54They're quite competitive, they're fit,

0:03:54 > 0:03:57they're used to working with a brilliant team, and the best people

0:03:57 > 0:04:01at Strictly are very happy to work as a gang, as a two,

0:04:01 > 0:04:04but everyone else around them, and they just throw themselves in.

0:04:04 > 0:04:05They do brilliantly.

0:04:05 > 0:04:08- Who would you like to see in future editions?- This one.- Ha-ha!

0:04:08 > 0:04:10I could tell him now he's going to win.

0:04:10 > 0:04:14Look at that body. Ready for a rumba, ready for a waltz.

0:04:14 > 0:04:16- Any special moves?- Er, no sp...

0:04:17 > 0:04:20- That will do.- It's a start. - That'll do.- I just won there, right?

0:04:20 > 0:04:23Someone give him the trophy. Done.

0:04:27 > 0:04:29The athletes here tonight we're probably more used to seeing

0:04:29 > 0:04:32in sports kit than black tie and ballgowns,

0:04:32 > 0:04:34but they've all comes dressed for the occasion

0:04:34 > 0:04:38and our fashion vlogger Meg has been on the red carpet to see

0:04:38 > 0:04:41who might have a chance of taking the unofficial style award.

0:04:42 > 0:04:45- We're talking about fashion... - OK.- You want us?!

0:04:45 > 0:04:47You're talking to the wrong people, but, yeah...

0:04:47 > 0:04:49A lot of my younger viewers want to know if you have any tips

0:04:49 > 0:04:52about dressing to make yourself feel more confident for a night out.

0:04:52 > 0:04:55Swimming's quite a hard one cos we are quite broad upper body and

0:04:55 > 0:04:56more narrow towards the bottom,

0:04:56 > 0:04:59so you kind of want to balance yourself out a bit, don't you?

0:04:59 > 0:05:01If you feel comfortable wearing what you like then I'd definitely

0:05:01 > 0:05:04go for it cos you're going to look the best if you're smiling.

0:05:04 > 0:05:06We kind of look for things that balance out shoulders

0:05:06 > 0:05:07and give you a bit more waist maybe.

0:05:07 > 0:05:09We were on the internet about an hour ago

0:05:09 > 0:05:12trying to work out how to do it, and I think I've done an all right job.

0:05:12 > 0:05:13That's actually a really good attempt.

0:05:13 > 0:05:15It's one of those life skills you just have, isn't it?

0:05:15 > 0:05:18All the Strictly experience and the hair, the glitter, the make-up,

0:05:18 > 0:05:20I was just like, "Yeah, bring it on!"

0:05:20 > 0:05:22Do you have a signature dance move?

0:05:22 > 0:05:24Well, I like twerking!

0:05:24 > 0:05:27- A little sidestep. Sometimes you've got to...- Love it.- ..break it back.

0:05:27 > 0:05:29Lily does... She goes for this little half squat position.

0:05:29 > 0:05:32- Oh, God! - Like this, just like moves a bit.

0:05:32 > 0:05:34This dress is so tight, I can't really...

0:05:34 > 0:05:36I can't really twerk it.

0:05:40 > 0:05:43Before we talk about the athletes, let's recognise the supporters.

0:05:43 > 0:05:46The first award of the night is for Team GB's biggest fan.

0:05:46 > 0:05:50Who went the extra mile when supporting Great Britain this year?

0:05:50 > 0:05:53MUSIC: Get Lucky by Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams

0:06:00 > 0:06:03Thank you so much, ladies and gentlemen.

0:06:03 > 0:06:05Now it's time for the very first Team GB award.

0:06:05 > 0:06:10These awards are to recognise the amazing efforts of everyone

0:06:10 > 0:06:12in Team GB and the team behind them.

0:06:12 > 0:06:16That's why our first award doesn't actually go to an athlete at all.

0:06:16 > 0:06:19This is an award for Team GB's ultimate super-fan,

0:06:19 > 0:06:22to acknowledge all the love and support

0:06:22 > 0:06:24we get from everyone when we're competing.

0:06:26 > 0:06:29Have that feeling and go to the Olympics and support Team GB

0:06:29 > 0:06:31because, you know, they appreciate it.

0:06:33 > 0:06:35We'd like to thank everyone for the support that they've been

0:06:35 > 0:06:37- showing us.- Keep it up. - We want to hear all your support,

0:06:37 > 0:06:41- all the way from Rio. - It's time to step up for Team GB.

0:06:46 > 0:06:49- ALL:- Good luck, Team GB! Dab!

0:07:00 > 0:07:03Zoe Hainsworth!

0:07:03 > 0:07:06MUSIC: Cheerleader by Omi

0:07:07 > 0:07:09- ZOE:- It was pretty incredible.

0:07:09 > 0:07:11We were out in Rio ourselves as volunteers

0:07:11 > 0:07:14and to be invited to an event like this is just absolutely unreal.

0:07:14 > 0:07:16Rio was my first trip to kind of follow Team GB

0:07:16 > 0:07:19and just coincidentally we were out there volunteering in the hockey,

0:07:19 > 0:07:22which was an unbelievable event. We ended up ball-girling as well,

0:07:22 > 0:07:24so to be on the pitch for the Olympic final, where the girls won,

0:07:24 > 0:07:26was just...out of this world

0:07:26 > 0:07:28and more than I could ever imagine.

0:07:31 > 0:07:34People keep saying, "How are you? How is retirement?"

0:07:34 > 0:07:38But it's just such a nice feeling to have reflected back on my career

0:07:38 > 0:07:39and now have this time to...

0:07:39 > 0:07:42just relax and enjoy life, and do different things.

0:07:42 > 0:07:45The past two years were, yeah, the toughest years of my career,

0:07:45 > 0:07:47and I knew it was my last Olympics,

0:07:47 > 0:07:50and I think deep down I knew it was the last time I'd step on

0:07:50 > 0:07:52the track and compete in that environment,

0:07:52 > 0:07:53so it was really special.

0:07:53 > 0:07:56The team was incredible and...

0:07:56 > 0:07:58Yeah, really, really emotional.

0:07:58 > 0:08:00What kind of legacy do you think you've left and what do you see

0:08:00 > 0:08:02British athletics in at the moment?

0:08:02 > 0:08:04Generally, I think we're looking really promising

0:08:04 > 0:08:06for the next four years and going into Tokyo.

0:08:06 > 0:08:10And, for me, I just hope that I've helped inspire people to get

0:08:10 > 0:08:11involved in the sport.

0:08:11 > 0:08:14I've had an incredible time and, yeah,

0:08:14 > 0:08:16enjoyed so many amazing championships

0:08:16 > 0:08:18and I hope that there's many more young girls

0:08:18 > 0:08:19who want to be heptathletes,

0:08:19 > 0:08:22come into the sport and hopefully achieve similar kind of things.

0:08:22 > 0:08:25To actually do it and sit there and hold that gold medal in my hand

0:08:25 > 0:08:27and say, "That's it, we're Olympic champions,"

0:08:27 > 0:08:31is something that I can't really get my head around yet, really.

0:08:31 > 0:08:32I don't think I ever will, to be honest.

0:08:32 > 0:08:35We were the first-ever people to win a gold medal,

0:08:35 > 0:08:36and to do that alongside your best mate

0:08:36 > 0:08:38is something pretty special, to be honest.

0:08:38 > 0:08:41I mean, to stand up in that podium, have our family in the crowd,

0:08:41 > 0:08:43hear the national anthem at the Olympic Games,

0:08:43 > 0:08:45that's something that's never happened for Team GB.

0:08:45 > 0:08:47So, you know, we've...

0:08:47 > 0:08:49We've made history and I'm hoping that it will inspire

0:08:49 > 0:08:51the next generations and stuff,

0:08:51 > 0:08:53and what we've done for Team GB and for diving,

0:08:53 > 0:08:56I'm hoping that it will spur people on to

0:08:56 > 0:08:57try and replicate what we've done.

0:08:57 > 0:09:00My year has been an absolutely dream year, to be quite honest,

0:09:00 > 0:09:05as an athlete. I've walked away with a medal in every event I've been to

0:09:05 > 0:09:09through the year - the European Champion going into the Games -

0:09:09 > 0:09:11and then to come away obviously with silver in K2 with

0:09:11 > 0:09:13John Scofield,

0:09:13 > 0:09:16and gold in K1, it was absolutely unbelievable.

0:09:16 > 0:09:18It was my first year internationally, really,

0:09:18 > 0:09:20where I'd tried my K1 out and it worked out pretty well,

0:09:20 > 0:09:22so I'm quite keen to...

0:09:22 > 0:09:24Develop and see how fast I can go

0:09:24 > 0:09:27over the next year and head towards a World Championship title

0:09:27 > 0:09:29because that's the only one that's missing from my cabinet.

0:09:34 > 0:09:37The next award is the Great Britain's Choice Award,

0:09:37 > 0:09:39where the public have voted for their favourite athlete

0:09:39 > 0:09:41or team of the Games.

0:09:41 > 0:09:44There were so many incredible performances in Rio,

0:09:44 > 0:09:46but this award is for the

0:09:46 > 0:09:49individual or team who the public felt inspired

0:09:49 > 0:09:51the whole of the country.

0:09:51 > 0:09:55- COMMENTATOR:- 60 minutes of blood, sweat and ultimately tears...

0:09:55 > 0:09:56one way or the other.

0:09:56 > 0:09:57Oh, it's been saved.

0:09:58 > 0:10:00And this time it's scored.

0:10:01 > 0:10:04It's a goal for the Netherlands - 2-1 in front.

0:10:04 > 0:10:07Crista Cullen brings Great Britain level.

0:10:07 > 0:10:11The gold medal game is going to a penalty shootout.

0:10:11 > 0:10:13Oh, she's hit the post.

0:10:13 > 0:10:14Webb...

0:10:14 > 0:10:15Scores!

0:10:15 > 0:10:19Great Britain have won the Olympic gold medal!

0:10:24 > 0:10:26APPLAUSE

0:10:27 > 0:10:29It's an absolutely phenomenal honour.

0:10:29 > 0:10:31It's been a fantastic evening and to...

0:10:31 > 0:10:33to be given this recognition as a squad.

0:10:33 > 0:10:36We won't get tired of saying it, but there's 31 amazing women

0:10:36 > 0:10:38and staff that have been a part of this,

0:10:38 > 0:10:41so it truly is an honour to be here this evening.

0:10:41 > 0:10:43We just want to say thank you to everybody that's voted

0:10:43 > 0:10:46and we really hope what the summer did

0:10:46 > 0:10:47was put hockey out there on the map.

0:10:47 > 0:10:50Tell us what it was like to be in that moment

0:10:50 > 0:10:51and that shootout at the end.

0:10:51 > 0:10:54Do you know what? It's nearly impossible to describe

0:10:54 > 0:10:55the emotions within that moment

0:10:55 > 0:10:57because we were very much in a bubble, weren't we?

0:10:57 > 0:11:00And it wasn't very dissimilar to what we've been doing at Bisham

0:11:00 > 0:11:01day in, day out, just training

0:11:01 > 0:11:03and, you know, it was just another shootout,

0:11:03 > 0:11:05another time to step up and do our job.

0:11:05 > 0:11:07And then afterwards the chaos kind of hit,

0:11:07 > 0:11:09and the reality hit home of what we'd actually done.

0:11:09 > 0:11:12But I think it's testament to all the hard work we've done back home

0:11:12 > 0:11:15to be confident in those moments, and we were ready.

0:11:19 > 0:11:21Even though the result wasn't what I wanted,

0:11:21 > 0:11:24it does give me immense pride to know that...

0:11:26 > 0:11:29..the British public have just been so accommodating to me,

0:11:29 > 0:11:33and to come back off that plane and be treated like a winner

0:11:33 > 0:11:34has just been such a pleasure to me.

0:11:34 > 0:11:37For that moment, it did seem to bring so many people together.

0:11:37 > 0:11:40As corny as that sounds...

0:11:40 > 0:11:42that does give me a lot of pleasure.

0:11:42 > 0:11:45I was a half second away from being Olympic champion and

0:11:45 > 0:11:46accomplishing my dream.

0:11:46 > 0:11:49HE SOBS

0:11:49 > 0:11:51I'm sorry, I don't want to cry on TV, but...

0:11:51 > 0:11:52I'm so distraught.

0:11:54 > 0:11:56What you saw there, in that interview,

0:11:56 > 0:11:59was a lifetime of training, a lifetime of effort,

0:11:59 > 0:12:01a lifetime of hard graft,

0:12:01 > 0:12:02all put into one moment,

0:12:02 > 0:12:06and for it to be taken away at the last second.

0:12:06 > 0:12:09That's why, you know, it was uncontrollable

0:12:09 > 0:12:11and that's why it was raw emotion.

0:12:11 > 0:12:12It really is a dream come true,

0:12:12 > 0:12:15and it's taken a while but it's starting to sink in a little bit.

0:12:15 > 0:12:17And I have my moments, maybe when I'm driving my car,

0:12:17 > 0:12:20it just suddenly sinks in and I get a bit emotional again.

0:12:20 > 0:12:23But it's been absolutely fantastic since.

0:12:23 > 0:12:26Absolutely amazing. I can't believe it, like...

0:12:26 > 0:12:28Oh, I'm just so happy!

0:12:28 > 0:12:30I just can't believe I've won an Olympic medal.

0:12:30 > 0:12:31Yeah, just...

0:12:32 > 0:12:35..speechless. I just can't believe it!

0:12:35 > 0:12:38Can you put it into words now, what that achievement was like?

0:12:38 > 0:12:40Erm, I think it was just so much emotion going through

0:12:40 > 0:12:42me at one point. It was fantastic.

0:12:42 > 0:12:46There was so much happiness, pride...

0:12:46 > 0:12:48A little bit sad that it was all over.

0:12:49 > 0:12:51Just absolute, kind of, elation.

0:12:51 > 0:12:53What's next for you?

0:12:53 > 0:12:55Getting back on the trampoline is my next step...

0:12:55 > 0:12:57or my next leap or jump.

0:12:57 > 0:12:59But then, after that, the World Championships

0:12:59 > 0:13:02at the end of next year - they're my next large goal.

0:13:02 > 0:13:05British Championships, qualification for that event.

0:13:05 > 0:13:06And it's a stand-alone competition,

0:13:06 > 0:13:08so I'd quite like to do well in that.

0:13:08 > 0:13:10So it's kind of just getting back up to fitness,

0:13:10 > 0:13:12um, learning some new skills, putting them into my routine,

0:13:12 > 0:13:15so just improving and seeing where it can take me, really.

0:13:15 > 0:13:17I just want to find out where my limits and my boundaries are

0:13:17 > 0:13:19and just enjoy the journey for the next four years.

0:13:19 > 0:13:21In Rio, it was more kind of a personal battle,

0:13:21 > 0:13:23overcoming my surgery and injuries,

0:13:23 > 0:13:27and it was really, really tough to get to that start line.

0:13:27 > 0:13:30In some ways, it was more special to do it that second time.

0:13:30 > 0:13:33I think, the next two years, I've got to try some different things,

0:13:33 > 0:13:36experiment with a few kind of different distances of racing.

0:13:36 > 0:13:39And like we said, some longer-distance kind of stuff.

0:13:39 > 0:13:41But, of course, Tokyo is still in the back of my mind

0:13:41 > 0:13:44and, in two years' time, this time in 2018,

0:13:44 > 0:13:48I'm going to have to decide whether it's full steam ahead for Tokyo

0:13:48 > 0:13:51or full steam ahead for the longer kind of racing.

0:13:54 > 0:13:57As we've already said, it was a record-breaking foreign Olympics

0:13:57 > 0:13:59for Great Britain in Brazil,

0:13:59 > 0:14:01but who had the biggest impact on the athletes?

0:14:01 > 0:14:04The next award is for Team GB Coach Of The Year.

0:14:04 > 0:14:07Behind every great athlete, you know,

0:14:07 > 0:14:10they say that you've got a great coach behind you.

0:14:10 > 0:14:11- Yes, they say that.- They do.- Good.

0:14:11 > 0:14:14And, you know, they should because it's true.

0:14:14 > 0:14:18This next award goes to the coach whose hard work and dedication

0:14:18 > 0:14:21helped their athletes' dreams come true.

0:14:22 > 0:14:25Celebrate and enjoy, we stick to what we do.

0:14:25 > 0:14:27The gold medal can be won now.

0:14:27 > 0:14:29The story of this team is the personality of the team,

0:14:29 > 0:14:31how they want to work for one another.

0:14:31 > 0:14:34If they keep doing that...they work for one another,

0:14:34 > 0:14:35we'll be in good shape.

0:14:35 > 0:14:37- COMMENTATOR:- That's the golden goal!

0:14:37 > 0:14:40Great Britain are the Olympic champions and they

0:14:40 > 0:14:43are on top of the world.

0:14:43 > 0:14:45Danny Kerry is on the pitch to celebrate.

0:14:45 > 0:14:4811 years I've kind of being doing this job and I've grown up

0:14:48 > 0:14:51with these people, and I just can't even begin to describe the pride.

0:14:51 > 0:14:53And they should be proud of themselves -

0:14:53 > 0:14:55they have just been immense.

0:15:01 > 0:15:04I'm very proud of the girls, they've been sensational,

0:15:04 > 0:15:07and actually what they've done after the Games and since,

0:15:07 > 0:15:09and how they've been getting out to the hockey community

0:15:09 > 0:15:12and inspiring the next generation, so, yeah, really proud.

0:15:12 > 0:15:14Really, really proud.

0:15:14 > 0:15:17We saw, in Rio, the wonderful team spirit that exists among your squad.

0:15:17 > 0:15:19I mean, where does your squad go from here?

0:15:19 > 0:15:22I mean, do you keep them all? Do some stop? How does it work?

0:15:22 > 0:15:27Yeah, some are definitely stopping there, and they're right to do that.

0:15:27 > 0:15:29They've given an awful lot to the sport

0:15:29 > 0:15:31and they'll go on to pastures new.

0:15:31 > 0:15:33The good news is I've spent the last two months

0:15:33 > 0:15:34looking at the next group

0:15:34 > 0:15:37and I'm quietly optimistic about what's coming through.

0:15:37 > 0:15:40I think we've got quite an exciting four years ahead of us.

0:15:43 > 0:15:45It's absolutely a dream come true.

0:15:45 > 0:15:48Obviously, it's been a lifelong dream to get first and second

0:15:48 > 0:15:50at the Olympic Games, we didn't quite do it in London,

0:15:50 > 0:15:53and I crossed the finish line, I said to Alistair, "We've done it."

0:15:53 > 0:15:54So it's very, very special

0:15:54 > 0:15:57and then I moved on quickly to other races,

0:15:57 > 0:15:59so you didn't really have time to think about it,

0:15:59 > 0:16:00but hopefully tonight,

0:16:00 > 0:16:02it's a great opportunity to look back at the whole season.

0:16:02 > 0:16:04What are the plans for the future?

0:16:04 > 0:16:07We go to the Commonwealths in Gold Coast in 2018

0:16:07 > 0:16:11and then hopefully Olympic champion or medallist in Tokyo

0:16:11 > 0:16:14so I'm very much focused on Olympic distances for the next four years.

0:16:14 > 0:16:16Four years ago, I was kind of sitting at home

0:16:16 > 0:16:19wanting to be an Olympian and now I'm here as part of Team GB

0:16:19 > 0:16:21celebrating our success in Rio,

0:16:21 > 0:16:23not only as part of the team but as a medallist,

0:16:23 > 0:16:25so it takes a bit of getting used to

0:16:25 > 0:16:27but, definitely, it's going to be such an amazing night

0:16:27 > 0:16:29to reunite with all of our team-mates that, well,

0:16:29 > 0:16:31some of whom we haven't seen since the Games.

0:16:31 > 0:16:32It meant so much to us,

0:16:32 > 0:16:35not only because we were kind of forcing ourselves

0:16:35 > 0:16:39onto the top tier of female sprinting but, at the same time,

0:16:39 > 0:16:41we'd worked so unbelievably hard for that.

0:16:41 > 0:16:45I mean, we'd been meeting up since January, been practising, we've been

0:16:45 > 0:16:48altering our schedules to make sure that we had the time to practise

0:16:48 > 0:16:50cos we knew that we had a unique opportunity with the talent

0:16:50 > 0:16:53that we have in the UK right now, and with Rio being, well,

0:16:53 > 0:16:56the Games were in the summer, so we really, really worked hard.

0:16:56 > 0:16:58It was one of those moments where you work for something

0:16:58 > 0:17:01and then you get it, and we were so unbelievably happy.

0:17:01 > 0:17:03What went into winning that?

0:17:03 > 0:17:05A lot of hard work, sweat, blood,

0:17:05 > 0:17:07tears, laughter, happiness,

0:17:07 > 0:17:09but, yeah, all in all,

0:17:09 > 0:17:11it was an emotional medal, that's for sure.

0:17:11 > 0:17:13What were your other highlights at the Games?

0:17:13 > 0:17:16Making new friends from other sports.

0:17:16 > 0:17:20I'm really friendly with Joe, the slalom canoeist.

0:17:20 > 0:17:23We're arranging a little shooting get-together soon.

0:17:23 > 0:17:26I can't see me trying the slalom canoe just yet,

0:17:26 > 0:17:30I'll have to go for the flat stuff first of all but, yeah,

0:17:30 > 0:17:34it's been great there meeting all the other athletes

0:17:34 > 0:17:36from all the other sports and getting to know them.

0:17:36 > 0:17:39Yeah, making new friends definitely is the highlight.

0:17:43 > 0:17:46Gold medals for Laura Trott and Nicola Adams,

0:17:46 > 0:17:49just two of the many fantastic moments from Rio 2016,

0:17:49 > 0:17:53but the next award is the BBC Moment Of The Games.

0:17:53 > 0:17:55You might have seen this one once or twice on telly.

0:17:56 > 0:17:59It's the first time that Great Britain's women have ever

0:17:59 > 0:18:02made it into the final, and they've done so in such style.

0:18:03 > 0:18:08This has been a truly historic day for British women's sport.

0:18:10 > 0:18:13The two teams have produced a dream final.

0:18:14 > 0:18:17The golden opportunity.

0:18:17 > 0:18:20The hockey history-makers!

0:18:20 > 0:18:23That will be one of my moments of Rio.

0:18:23 > 0:18:27Anybody that's been tuned in watching that on a Friday night,

0:18:27 > 0:18:29that is something else.

0:18:33 > 0:18:36APPLAUSE

0:18:38 > 0:18:41We definitely weren't expecting it, it's a massive surprise,

0:18:41 > 0:18:45and I think getting the Public's Choice award was amazing

0:18:45 > 0:18:47because, obviously, the public have voted for it

0:18:47 > 0:18:49so that's super-special and, yeah,

0:18:49 > 0:18:51getting the Moment of the Olympics as well is incredible,

0:18:51 > 0:18:54and Danny rightly deserved to get the Coach Of The Year award

0:18:54 > 0:18:57but, yeah, it's quite unbelievable that hockey got three awards here

0:18:57 > 0:19:00when there were so many fantastic athletes as part of Team GB

0:19:00 > 0:19:02that competed in Rio.

0:19:02 > 0:19:05What kind of impact do you think that gold medal's going to have

0:19:05 > 0:19:08on hockey as a whole and inspiring more youngsters to get involved?

0:19:08 > 0:19:09All of us have seen it first-hand.

0:19:09 > 0:19:11We've all been at hockey clubs and schools all over the country

0:19:11 > 0:19:14and actually I went to one the weekend before last,

0:19:14 > 0:19:16and I got a card off a little girl and it said,

0:19:16 > 0:19:19"I want to go to the Olympics and win a gold medal just like you did.

0:19:19 > 0:19:21"This is the reason I play hockey."

0:19:21 > 0:19:25And we've had so many messages just exactly the same as that,

0:19:25 > 0:19:28and that has been THE best thing since the Olympics,

0:19:28 > 0:19:31the amount of kids, youngsters, girls, boys,

0:19:31 > 0:19:34people of all ages actually that have started playing hockey

0:19:34 > 0:19:36or restarted playing hockey because of what we did at the Olympics

0:19:36 > 0:19:38and that's super-special.

0:19:42 > 0:19:45Waking up the next day with that medal under my pillow,

0:19:45 > 0:19:47I was like, "Oh, my God, it's actually still there!"

0:19:47 > 0:19:49I was pinching myself a little bit, I thought,

0:19:49 > 0:19:51"No, it's real and now I've got to go out and support the other guys

0:19:51 > 0:19:53"and try and get them a gold as well."

0:19:53 > 0:19:56What does the future hold? I mean, you want to be defending that title,

0:19:56 > 0:19:58and I'm sure winning some more European and world honours?

0:19:58 > 0:20:00Yeah, people say to me, "Where do you find the motivation because

0:20:00 > 0:20:03"obviously your dream was to win the Olympic Gold medal and you've

0:20:03 > 0:20:05"done that now, so where's the motivation coming from?"

0:20:05 > 0:20:08For me the motivation comes from nobody has ever done it twice in my

0:20:08 > 0:20:10category, so that's a new aim.

0:20:10 > 0:20:13You've got to reassess, re-evaluate and obviously work towards Tokyo

0:20:13 > 0:20:16and to try and defend that title, which will be...

0:20:16 > 0:20:19It's going to be tight, like it was in Rio,

0:20:19 > 0:20:22so got to really start pushing on and making those marginal gains,

0:20:22 > 0:20:23but it is exciting.

0:20:23 > 0:20:26I don't think words could ever do

0:20:26 > 0:20:28that feeling justice.

0:20:28 > 0:20:30I think it showed in our reaction

0:20:30 > 0:20:32and laughter and how we enjoyed

0:20:32 > 0:20:34that moment, how it felt.

0:20:34 > 0:20:37All you had to do in Rio was finish that race in the 470,

0:20:37 > 0:20:39what was going through your mind at that time?

0:20:39 > 0:20:42It was awful. I absolutely hated it.

0:20:42 > 0:20:44You just think anything that can go wrong will go wrong.

0:20:44 > 0:20:47Just anxious, just want it done.

0:20:47 > 0:20:48Yeah, it wasn't a very nice feeling.

0:20:48 > 0:20:51Obviously the feeling of almost winning was nice but,

0:20:51 > 0:20:53it was just stressful. I was so, so relieved when it was over.

0:20:53 > 0:20:56It's a long four years, a lot of work to go to Tokyo,

0:20:56 > 0:20:58what are the plans from now?

0:20:58 > 0:21:00Yeah, it is.

0:21:00 > 0:21:04Saskia is retiring, which leaves me alone, which is really sad.

0:21:04 > 0:21:07We've had an amazing six years sailing together.

0:21:07 > 0:21:10We've had an amazing journey together so I'm trying new

0:21:10 > 0:21:15things, new boats and, yes, on a crew search, to find my next crew.

0:21:15 > 0:21:20Max Whitlock is now a double Olympic champion.

0:21:20 > 0:21:24You know, I haven't even sat in my living room and watched the whole

0:21:24 > 0:21:27thing back yet. I really need to make time to do that,

0:21:27 > 0:21:29but it still feels so surreal.

0:21:29 > 0:21:32It feels crazy that it's all finished, all done and

0:21:32 > 0:21:34everyone is looking forward to the next thing that's coming round.

0:21:34 > 0:21:36It's an amazing feeling knowing what we've done.

0:21:36 > 0:21:40How would you describe the stature that we have now in the world game?

0:21:40 > 0:21:43By an absolute mile, it's the best place we've ever been in.

0:21:43 > 0:21:46We can go forward actually being known as one of the world's

0:21:46 > 0:21:48best teams, and we've proved that so many times now

0:21:48 > 0:21:51so we can go forward with so much confidence.

0:21:51 > 0:21:54Look at we've done, look at the experience we've brought up

0:21:54 > 0:21:56and move forward with that.

0:21:56 > 0:21:59There's so much more we can do, hopefully.

0:21:59 > 0:22:02I always, as you know, success breeds success.

0:22:02 > 0:22:05So hopefully what we've done can make the younger gymnasts

0:22:05 > 0:22:07believe what is really possible.

0:22:11 > 0:22:14We've already seen so much success celebrated tonight but the

0:22:14 > 0:22:16final award is a particularly special one.

0:22:16 > 0:22:20It's the Olympians' Olympian so who from Team GB excelled more

0:22:20 > 0:22:21than the rest?

0:22:21 > 0:22:24This is our final award of the night, the Olympians' Olympian,

0:22:24 > 0:22:27and the only people to vote in this award were

0:22:27 > 0:22:33the competitors at the Rio Games, so this is the athletes' athlete.

0:22:33 > 0:22:36- Who did you vote for, Tom?- Well, that would be telling, wouldn't it?

0:22:36 > 0:22:38OK, just so you know, I'd have voted for you too.

0:22:40 > 0:22:42If I could come out with anything, any medal of any kind here,

0:22:42 > 0:22:45it would probably be my greatest achievement.

0:22:45 > 0:22:47This is a sensational performance!

0:22:47 > 0:22:51Great Britain's Thornley and Grainger getting Olympic

0:22:51 > 0:22:54silver medal.

0:22:54 > 0:22:57This performance stands testament to the power of self-belief and

0:22:57 > 0:22:59sheer hard work.

0:22:59 > 0:23:02To be standing here finally in the Rio sunshine with a big medal round

0:23:02 > 0:23:04- our necks has made it all worthwhile.- Tokyo?

0:23:04 > 0:23:08Mum and Dad, I promise, I'll never put you through that again.

0:23:08 > 0:23:11APPLAUSE

0:23:17 > 0:23:19Of all the awards to win,

0:23:19 > 0:23:22what an incredible award, when it's voted by your own peers.

0:23:22 > 0:23:25That just makes it so, so special, I can't say enough.

0:23:25 > 0:23:27This team has been my life for 20 years,

0:23:27 > 0:23:30being part of the British Olympic team, so to be voted for

0:23:30 > 0:23:33by the team to be...this award is very special.

0:23:33 > 0:23:37I think the Rio medal for me was the hardest one of my five to win.

0:23:37 > 0:23:40We were both determined to come away with a good result and

0:23:40 > 0:23:42our coaches believed in us and our team believed in us.

0:23:42 > 0:23:45I think once we believed in each other, then we were in the

0:23:45 > 0:23:46right place for it.

0:23:46 > 0:23:48What I'm not hearing is you saying

0:23:48 > 0:23:51a Sir Steve Redgrave, "shoot me if I get back in that boat."

0:23:51 > 0:23:53I genuinely feel so lucky to have done this for 20 years.

0:23:53 > 0:23:56I did five Olympic Games, that's more than most people get

0:23:56 > 0:23:59a chance to do - and successfully as well - so I do feel within myself

0:23:59 > 0:24:03I know it's time for other people to chase that dream now.

0:24:03 > 0:24:05I'm very, very content with my career.

0:24:10 > 0:24:14So the women's hockey team, the big winners on the night with

0:24:14 > 0:24:17three awards underlining what a huge achievement that gold medal was.

0:24:17 > 0:24:19Before we go, let's head back down to Meg

0:24:19 > 0:24:22to find out who, in her eyes, stole the show on the red carpet.

0:24:27 > 0:24:30Everyone just looked absolutely amazing and it's so tough

0:24:30 > 0:24:32to pick a favourite, but for women I have to say Sam Murray.

0:24:32 > 0:24:35Her dress was just absolutely knockout and she looked like

0:24:35 > 0:24:36an absolute ten out of ten.

0:24:36 > 0:24:38Her make-up was flawless as well

0:24:38 > 0:24:41and she matched her lipstick to her dress. She just looked beautiful.

0:24:41 > 0:24:43For guys, it has to be Lutalo Muhammad because he looks

0:24:43 > 0:24:46so dapper and he's so charming and lovely as well.

0:24:46 > 0:24:49So those are my two top style picks of the night.

0:24:53 > 0:24:55There may still be a few years to go to till the Tokyo Games

0:24:55 > 0:24:58in 2020, but there's only just over 12 months until the next

0:24:58 > 0:25:01Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

0:25:01 > 0:25:03Hopefully plenty more to celebrate then.

0:25:12 > 0:25:15# Birds flying high

0:25:18 > 0:25:21# You know how I feel

0:25:24 > 0:25:28# Sun in the sky

0:25:28 > 0:25:31# You know how I feel

0:25:31 > 0:25:35# Breeze drifting on by

0:25:35 > 0:25:39# You know how I feel
