:00:11. > :00:18.Historically at the Winter Olympics British athletes have often found

:00:19. > :00:28.themselves left out in the cold. The dominating figure at these games...

:00:29. > :00:40.He is only 21 it was mostly the preserve of other nations. He is

:00:41. > :00:48.reading now and he crosses the line and new Olympic record holder. But

:00:49. > :00:55.over time, Great Britain has gradually warmed to Winter sport. It

:00:56. > :01:03.is Olympic gold for Great Britain. A great round of applause. Surely it

:01:04. > :01:07.will be called for Great Britain. And there was success last time as

:01:08. > :01:16.Team GB equalled their best ever medal count. He is an Olympic

:01:17. > :01:23.champion. Jenny Jones, Great Britain bronze medallist. Great Britain are

:01:24. > :01:34.in the Olympic final. The youngest ever to win a medal in Olympic

:01:35. > :01:36.curling. Next year and South Korea, the British are aiming for even

:01:37. > :02:04.more. Who will be winning the medals for

:02:05. > :02:09.Team GB when the Olympic Games take place next year. We will tell you

:02:10. > :02:14.how some of the familiar faces have been faring as well as some new

:02:15. > :02:21.names full top we will start with Lizzie, who followed up Amy Williams

:02:22. > :02:30.in 2010 with an Olympic title. She has gone on to win world, European

:02:31. > :02:41.and World Cup titles. She has also taken a year off. She is the Olympic

:02:42. > :02:45.champion. The mad thing about skeleton is your legging it as fast

:02:46. > :02:51.as you can and jumping on the sled and hoping it goes right. Sometimes

:02:52. > :02:57.it is scary. You're going into corners at 90 mph, so it is almost

:02:58. > :03:03.gone before you can think about it. I remember just before the race was

:03:04. > :03:08.about to start I was petrified because as soon as I started the run

:03:09. > :03:14.there was nothing more I can do. I just wanted to squeeze every

:03:15. > :03:20.hundredth of a second out of the run to secure a gold medal. I got to the

:03:21. > :03:23.finish line looked at the clock and saw the number one and it was the

:03:24. > :03:29.tingling all over that I had done it. It was amazing. How soon

:03:30. > :03:35.afterwards did you think about another success? As soon as someone

:03:36. > :03:44.mentioned no one had defended her title, I thought it would be amazing

:03:45. > :03:50.to do. She is the Olympic champion. She is pulling away. That is how to

:03:51. > :03:54.Win your first World Championships. I said I wanted to be world champion

:03:55. > :04:03.and I'm so pleased that I have done it. Olympic skeleton champion took a

:04:04. > :04:06.year of a break from the sport. When I came back I had achieved

:04:07. > :04:12.everything I wanted to. I realised I was exhausted. What have you done

:04:13. > :04:20.this year? I planned my wedding and moved house. I took some lampshade

:04:21. > :04:26.making courses. I needed a break to remember who I was as a person, not

:04:27. > :04:32.just an athlete. Getting back into training is more fun than I

:04:33. > :04:44.remember. I have come back stronger. She is picking up where she left

:04:45. > :04:48.off. She took cells are industries. I would never have known if it was a

:04:49. > :04:54.good idea to take a year off if I had not come back so strongly. Now I

:04:55. > :05:06.cannot wait for the Olympic season and my dream is to defend my title.

:05:07. > :05:12.At the age of 16, Katie missed out in selection for snowboarding. But

:05:13. > :05:16.for years on and she have her coming-of-age inside career. She is

:05:17. > :05:28.one of the best medal hopes in big air. My name is Katie and I am a

:05:29. > :05:32.freestyle snowboard. I will take you through a day in the life of how I

:05:33. > :05:39.live and what I do as a professional still border. We have down days so I

:05:40. > :05:55.will show you going to the gym and what I do, go exploring. I hope you

:05:56. > :06:00.enjoy it. Still in bed. I got involved and freestyle snowboarding

:06:01. > :06:06.when I was five years old. I love it, the fact you can travel the

:06:07. > :06:17.world with your best friends. This is outside our apartment. The view

:06:18. > :06:26.is pretty here. Where are going? To the gym. I had a heavy day yesterday

:06:27. > :06:32.doing legwork so angry to do a light session today. UK sport are putting

:06:33. > :06:38.a lot of funding into us which makes it easier to go and train and get

:06:39. > :06:40.access to the facilities they need. Going to go and get changed angle on

:06:41. > :07:03.a hiking adventure. -- and go on at. There is a lovely view here in

:07:04. > :07:10.Austria. Two and a half years ago eyes-mac 's my ACL, so I still have

:07:11. > :07:17.to have physio to keep on top of it because if I ride hard it hurt a

:07:18. > :07:31.little bit. -- years ago I broke my ACL. Going up the mountain now. We

:07:32. > :07:40.are at the thousand metres -- 3000 metres. We are going to do some

:07:41. > :07:50.tracks. -- tricks. It is a bit windy. It has always been my dream

:07:51. > :07:57.to get the Olympic gold. My training has been going well and I have good

:07:58. > :08:03.results this season so I am excited and I hope you enjoy the day. She

:08:04. > :08:10.has excelled in both disciplines, becoming the first ever big air

:08:11. > :08:16.World Cup winner in January and bronze followed by silver at the air

:08:17. > :08:20.and style event in Austria. She is not the only freestyle medal

:08:21. > :08:31.prospect. Here are some of the others to watch.

:08:32. > :08:39.Looking forward to Pyeongchang in 2018, there is plenty to get excited

:08:40. > :08:43.about. Both in skiing and snowboarding. In snowboarding it is

:08:44. > :08:48.mostly about men slopestyle. Ellie Morgan in Jimmy Nichols are two big

:08:49. > :08:56.names. There is no reason why we cannot get more medals this year. We

:08:57. > :09:03.are doing really well. There is a long way to go and I'm just trying

:09:04. > :09:06.to get my tracks back and solid. Behind then you have Matt McCormack

:09:07. > :09:11.and Roland Colthurst, both Berry impressive young talents. In the

:09:12. > :09:17.freestyle skiing there is tight and slopestyle to look forward to. In

:09:18. > :09:22.pipe, the junior Olympic gold-medal list will almost certainly go to

:09:23. > :09:26.Pyeongchang. It is her first Olympics but anything can, and

:09:27. > :09:30.probably well, happen. There is no pressure because I'm the youngest to

:09:31. > :09:37.get the Olympics. Just to get there be an achievement. Not many people

:09:38. > :09:43.do it, so it would be nice to get there. If I do well that is even

:09:44. > :09:51.better. In slopestyle you have two sisters, Katie and Molly, and this

:09:52. > :09:52.athlete who's came so close in Sochi, can he make it onto the

:09:53. > :10:07.podium? We know freestyle has the fun

:10:08. > :10:10.factor, but can curling be considered cool? Every four years

:10:11. > :10:17.interest leads the nation enduring Sochi 2014 hashtag love curling

:10:18. > :10:21.became a social media head, as Britain won silver and bronze

:10:22. > :10:27.medals. In Pyeongchang, a brother and sister could be taking to the

:10:28. > :10:30.ice. Built on an old car parked near London's Olympic Stadium, this

:10:31. > :10:43.curling rink is evidence of a sport on the rise. -- built on an old car

:10:44. > :10:48.park. It's increased profile is mainly thanks to Great Britain's men

:10:49. > :10:56.and women at Sochi 2014 with they won half of Team GB's medals. Great

:10:57. > :11:01.Britain are in the Olympic final and are guaranteed a medal. The brushes

:11:02. > :11:07.go in the air and Britain have won the bronze medal. The chance to go

:11:08. > :11:14.for more Olympic glory cannot come quickly enough. It is never off your

:11:15. > :11:17.mind. Ever since I threw my last town in Sochi I have been thinking

:11:18. > :11:21.about the next one and how I can do better. This year is important for

:11:22. > :11:27.us to put down a good mark going to Korea. Since 2014, the team have

:11:28. > :11:35.shown great consistency and one European bronze. At the same bent,

:11:36. > :11:39.her older brother enjoyed a rare international outing as part of the

:11:40. > :11:44.men's team. She has represented the country much more than me, but I

:11:45. > :11:51.hope that will not be the case for very much longer. With mixed doubles

:11:52. > :11:56.making its debut, what is the chance of the siblings bring together? It

:11:57. > :12:00.sounds fantastic to me. I've tried playing with my dad once mixed

:12:01. > :12:02.doubles. If we could get our heads down and make sure we get there then

:12:03. > :12:13.hopefully we can make that storyline happen. While the Muirhead 's by

:12:14. > :12:19.high, the silver medallist has represented the country since Sochi.

:12:20. > :12:24.We have done a lot of things right and got into most of the finals,

:12:25. > :12:28.just finished it off. That is something we are trying to change

:12:29. > :12:32.and we are doing very well on tour and top ten in the world, but we

:12:33. > :12:36.want to get back to the championships and be there. We have

:12:37. > :12:44.a passion for it, we want to be better and on the podium. Making a

:12:45. > :12:50.strong case to wear GB's colours, is his former team-mate. That is what

:12:51. > :12:56.it is all about and what I'm fighting for. I still love the

:12:57. > :13:01.sport. That is why I get up and go to the gym at six in the morning and

:13:02. > :13:05.take time away from my family, which is hard. It would be the ultimate

:13:06. > :13:11.for me. I don't think any team has stood out and to be selected and

:13:12. > :13:19.have that plane ticket to Korea. Whoever has a good year this year

:13:20. > :13:22.has the best chance of going. Bobsleighers one of the most popular

:13:23. > :13:28.sports at the Winter Olympics, but you have to put in 1998 for

:13:29. > :13:33.Britain's last medal. The four-man team did come close in Sochi,

:13:34. > :13:36.missing bronze by only a fraction of a second. Now with new recruits are

:13:37. > :13:45.good results, the squad is filling optimistic about their Pyeongchang

:13:46. > :13:52.potential. The initial feeling is terror. You are running faster than

:13:53. > :13:57.an Olympics better. The whole we don't you regret pushing so hard.

:13:58. > :14:02.You think, what have you done? The G-force puts stress on your body. I

:14:03. > :14:08.was getting nosebleeds two or three times a day. I thought it would be

:14:09. > :14:11.like this they land. They both think it is like a roller-coaster, but it

:14:12. > :14:18.is not. Roller-coaster is you know what is coming. In this your head is

:14:19. > :14:25.down and you're just being thrawn. -- throne. It is a difficult

:14:26. > :14:32.experience but it is exciting. It is a challenge and I love the speed. It

:14:33. > :14:38.was baffling Sochi. What do you remember? At the time I was over the

:14:39. > :14:42.moon. I was there to be competitive and I had finished fifth. Once the

:14:43. > :14:49.dust settled, we were very close to a medal. It was slightly

:14:50. > :14:58.disappointing. Full extension here... To make up those crucial

:14:59. > :15:07.fractions of a second, they are using former sprinters. This runner

:15:08. > :15:12.was the joint third quickest British 100 metre runner ever. I did not

:15:13. > :15:19.think I could do that with my body. I started crying. How has this

:15:20. > :15:27.happened to me? It complemented each other well, but there are some big

:15:28. > :15:31.differences. I'm not that big in comparison to other bobsleighers.

:15:32. > :15:38.Sprinting there is more finesse involved. Do you won medals in both

:15:39. > :15:45.sports this year? I have thought about it. One at a time. But it

:15:46. > :15:52.would be nice. My main focus is being at the Olympics as the best in

:15:53. > :15:55.the world. That is something they proved they were not far away from

:15:56. > :16:00.when they finished fourth in the two-man event. Everyone is such a

:16:01. > :16:04.standard it is just a case of finding a combination that works

:16:05. > :16:15.well together. When we get to Pyeongchang, we will be ready to

:16:16. > :16:24.take on the world for a medal. 14 years on... I am showing my age. The

:16:25. > :16:30.bobsleigh team are my new family. I believe that we can achieve the same

:16:31. > :16:39.as I achieved in 2004. Whatever team you end up on, you are trying to win

:16:40. > :16:44.a medal. From a sport that receives millions of pounds in funding, to

:16:45. > :16:50.one that receives nothing from UK sport. Alpine skiing has been a

:16:51. > :16:55.privilege and in recent years, which we can trace back to Baxter's

:16:56. > :17:05.stripped medal in 2002. But GB is trying to put that back. It is you

:17:06. > :17:11.against a mountain. The slalom, you are going flat out. Your legs are

:17:12. > :17:16.throbbing. You have to keep moving and going. It is not a nice feeling.

:17:17. > :17:23.But it is nice when you have done well. That is something deep has

:17:24. > :17:26.done this season. 12 months ago at top 20 finish would have been

:17:27. > :17:32.considered a good result that he is now challenging for the medals. He

:17:33. > :17:41.got a silver medal last month, matching the best ever result from a

:17:42. > :17:44.British Alpine skier. He proves much of his improvement down to an

:17:45. > :17:50.intense training regime on and off the slopes. I feel the genocide that

:17:51. > :17:54.makes a big difference. If I'm not strong then I can feel but I am

:17:55. > :18:00.slower and I'm not getting the same rebound from the skis. It is a big

:18:01. > :18:06.part of being an Alpine skier. But his path has been challenging, with

:18:07. > :18:10.the GB Alpine programme receiving no funding. That is something he

:18:11. > :18:15.believes would have been different if Baxter had not been stripped of

:18:16. > :18:21.his bronze medal for accidentally taking a banned substance. I watched

:18:22. > :18:26.it and I thought it was surreal. It was taken away from him in the way

:18:27. > :18:37.it was. It was an inhaler, it was so unlucky. UK sport would have still

:18:38. > :18:42.been with him. It is a travesty. Has it has been tough for your sport?

:18:43. > :18:46.Adi turning a corner now? Things are turning a corner now. We have some

:18:47. > :18:50.young people skiing now and hopefully we can bring more people

:18:51. > :18:54.into the sport and secure some National Lottery funding. How much

:18:55. > :18:57.of a difference without me? It would benefit the programme massively and

:18:58. > :19:01.it would support the young guys coming through but the pathway is

:19:02. > :19:06.well and the sport will go from strength to strength in the future.

:19:07. > :19:11.What is the target for Pyeongchang. I think if I keep going and working

:19:12. > :19:16.hard I can do something special. Britain doesn't have a history of

:19:17. > :19:21.winter Olympic medal success, nothing like in the summer. But

:19:22. > :19:29.figure skating has been the most profitable sport for Team GB.

:19:30. > :19:37.Figure skating is always a hit at the Wimpole Olympics, it is a short

:19:38. > :19:42.strength, grace and artistry. -- at the Winter Olympics. For Britain no

:19:43. > :19:49.one has come close to Torvill and Dean and Robin cousins in the 1980s.

:19:50. > :19:59.You know you have seen the best in the world. Robin Cousins of Great

:20:00. > :20:03.Britain. British skaters winning gold in Pyeongchang would be a

:20:04. > :20:09.difficult task. The men's event will likely be bought out between the

:20:10. > :20:16.Japanese superstar and the 2016 world champion from Spain. Philip

:20:17. > :20:21.Harris is hoping to be in the mix for Great Britain, although he has

:20:22. > :20:27.to come in the top 20 at the World Championships in March and last time

:20:28. > :20:34.he came 22nd. He needs a really good performance this time around.

:20:35. > :20:40.Britain's best prospects are an eye stance. They came seventh in the

:20:41. > :20:44.World Championships, but they are very unlucky. Niqabs undergo

:20:45. > :20:51.life-saving heart surgery and they missed most of 2015 because they

:20:52. > :20:55.were both seriously ill. Last summer, any shattered her kneecap

:20:56. > :20:59.and she is had to go through months of rehabilitation. She stepped back

:21:00. > :21:02.onto the ice in November but now it is a race against time for them to

:21:03. > :21:18.win the place at the Winter Olympics.

:21:19. > :21:27.While success was the team for many British athletes in Sochi, that was

:21:28. > :21:32.not case for Christie who was disqualified from all three events

:21:33. > :21:37.are left against devastated. Since then, medals rather than tears have

:21:38. > :21:38.fallen. She has been set out as a genuine Pyeongchang gold medal

:21:39. > :21:54.prospect. They have all gone down. I can't

:21:55. > :22:01.believe it, Christie has been penalised again and she is not going

:22:02. > :22:10.to advance into the medal contest. It was a horrible time in my life,

:22:11. > :22:17.but it has now passed. I'm a different person now. It has been an

:22:18. > :22:20.amazing development and everyone has helped me get there and I feel more

:22:21. > :22:32.ready than I ever have for an Olympic Games. I have achieved more

:22:33. > :22:38.than what I thought I was going to, for sure. It hasn't even sunk in, I

:22:39. > :22:46.think it will take until I finished the season. Is it your best season?

:22:47. > :22:51.I was totally different last year. I'm much better and much camera now.

:22:52. > :22:58.I'm in the best place just now. Why do you think that is? Physically I

:22:59. > :23:01.have always been up there. I have worked on that for years but

:23:02. > :23:08.mentally you're maybe not as strong. I believe in myself now and I

:23:09. > :23:13.believe I'm capable of winning an Olympic gold. Whether that is going

:23:14. > :23:17.to happen is not my control, it is down to the gods, but I'm doing

:23:18. > :23:22.everything I can. What does Pyeongchang means you? That is the

:23:23. > :23:34.focus and it has been my head nonstop. I am so excited for it. I

:23:35. > :23:39.cannot wait to get out there. A year feels like so long now. In one year

:23:40. > :23:45.we will find out which of those athletes have what it takes to reach

:23:46. > :23:52.the podium. Hopefully this will be Team GB's best winter Olympics. Keep

:23:53. > :23:56.checking our website for the latest on the British athletes. There will

:23:57. > :24:00.be some fantastic stories as they continue on the path to Pyeongchang.
