:00:54. > :00:57.what a week it has been. Away she goes, her whole career has been

:00:58. > :01:11.about this moment, it is gold for Jo Pavey. Mo Farah is back. Gold at

:01:12. > :01:22.last for Tiffany Porter. Adam Gemili gets called for Great Britain. Seven

:01:23. > :01:26.gold medals for Team GB are based at the European Championships since

:01:27. > :01:30.1998 and it is not over yet. -- there best. They could make reach

:01:31. > :01:40.the magical number ten for the first time in their history. Look at that.

:01:41. > :01:55.That is a good performance from that quartet. Gold for Mo Farah. One

:01:56. > :01:58.down, one more to go. Their son has come out, this European

:01:59. > :02:02.Championships is glowing out in a blaze of glory and Z?rich has never

:02:03. > :02:11.looked fine. It has been and are fantastic athletics meet and the Sun

:02:12. > :02:18.adds that little bit extra to that city. A very knowledgeable crowd

:02:19. > :02:22.have enjoyed someone before performances so far and we are

:02:23. > :02:29.hoping there are many more to come. Not least from this man. Yes, he has

:02:30. > :02:33.really hit the spot with some of you and when you have an athletics meet

:02:34. > :02:38.without Usain Bolt there is only one person who can come in and create

:02:39. > :02:49.that kind of showbiz razzmatazz. It is only what the crowd have the

:02:50. > :02:56.mandate. -- have demanded. You might see something special later when he

:02:57. > :03:08.takes on our very own Colin Jackson in the hurdles. We have a great day

:03:09. > :03:11.ahead, the possibility of seven medals for Team GB and it is the

:03:12. > :03:16.magic ten golds which has never been achieved before which I am guessing

:03:17. > :03:20.would be the target? Probably I guess, but they have had an amazing

:03:21. > :03:24.championship so far, everyone has gone out and perform to their best

:03:25. > :03:30.and that is all we can ask. But we have got some very good hopes out

:03:31. > :03:35.there in the relay, and Mo Farah and outside chance in the men's 1500

:03:36. > :03:42.metres. The weather is great, the sprinters must be thinking thank

:03:43. > :03:48.you. Yes, because any time it is wet and windy the chance of dropping the

:03:49. > :03:52.button is bigger and bigger. I am excited, we saw what Adam Gemili was

:03:53. > :03:57.like yesterday, excited about getting down there and making sure

:03:58. > :04:01.the team qualified. And Matthew Hudson-Smith and we understand they

:04:02. > :04:05.are both in the relays. Yes, listening to the athletes it is

:04:06. > :04:09.about the energy they have managed to create between themselves. They

:04:10. > :04:14.want to go out on a Big Bang, they know there are medals up for grabs

:04:15. > :04:18.and they want a piece of the action. Thank you, here are some of those

:04:19. > :04:24.hoping to take a medal on this final day of the Championships. Charlie

:04:25. > :04:30.Grice and Chris O'Hare are in the men's 1500 metres looking to win

:04:31. > :04:36.Britain's first medal in the event since 1986. Can Mo Farah complete

:04:37. > :04:42.his second European Championship double? He took the 10,000 metre

:04:43. > :04:45.gold earlier in the week. The British women's sprinters have

:04:46. > :04:53.helped light up this championship, will they end it with really glory?

:04:54. > :05:04.Both of the men's squads will be going for gold.

:05:05. > :05:09.Olympic and Commonwealth champion Greg Rutherford has never won

:05:10. > :05:16.European crown, is today the day that all changes? And so you can

:05:17. > :06:09.plan your afternoon this is how it looks.

:06:10. > :06:19.They do not come any more expert than that man there. He was really

:06:20. > :06:30.trying to say due out there, I cannot wait to see what happens --

:06:31. > :06:34.site you out. Silence is golden. We are all very excited by that. Things

:06:35. > :06:38.got underway early this morning and what a difference at the makes

:06:39. > :06:55.because the marathon course looked so different today. Daniele Meucci

:06:56. > :07:04.Won the men's marathon. Yared Shegumo Was 52 seconds behind him in

:07:05. > :07:10.second. This is what it does to the medals table. The magic number ten

:07:11. > :07:15.has never been achieved by Great Britain before, it would really be

:07:16. > :07:20.the best ever if they managed that. They are on course for it, seven

:07:21. > :07:23.medals up for grabs today, it will be interesting to see the head to

:07:24. > :07:29.head between Great Britain and France, especially in the relay.

:07:30. > :07:32.Germany down in eighth, normally one of the powerhouses at this event,

:07:33. > :07:44.have not won a gold medal since Wednesday. Let's have a look outside

:07:45. > :07:47.where are getting ready for this 1500 metre final, the first event on

:07:48. > :07:54.the track, Chris O'Hare and Charlie Grice going for Great Britain, it

:07:55. > :07:58.would be a first medal since 1986. So often we see the Kenyans working

:07:59. > :08:07.together to try and control the pace, do you think this will happen

:08:08. > :08:10.with these two? I don't think so, they can both finish first and they

:08:11. > :08:15.will want to do it in different ways. I don't think this race will

:08:16. > :08:24.go out very hard, I think it gets down to the final lap I think Henrik

:08:25. > :08:27.Ingebrigtsen will be in there. I think if Charlie or Chris get it

:08:28. > :08:31.right they have got a very good chance of a medal. They will be

:08:32. > :08:36.nervous but I hope they can judge it. It is a wide open race on

:08:37. > :08:44.paper, let's remind ourselves how they qualified. COMMENTATOR: Charlie

:08:45. > :08:52.Grice has got to be on his toes here, it is not going to be easy. He

:08:53. > :09:01.looks behind and see some danger, has got to be strong. Well done,

:09:02. > :09:07.excellent running. I cheated that as my final, I am glad I came through.

:09:08. > :09:14.Nobody wears the effort on his face as clearly as Chris O'Hare. He

:09:15. > :09:19.positions himself on the outside, moving through nicely. He likes to

:09:20. > :09:24.hit the front with some distance to go, getting away from any trouble.

:09:25. > :09:29.Gritting his teeth, the familiar face, he has opened up a bit of a

:09:30. > :09:34.gap. He really did blast down the final 100 metres. You will be

:09:35. > :09:43.sitting watching on Sunday, so we have got a heck of a shot to get a

:09:44. > :09:47.couple of medals. We have decided that he means at least, not that he

:09:48. > :09:51.is not going for gold but he means at least a silver or bronze. He will

:09:52. > :09:55.be disappointed if he does not come away with a medal, it will be

:09:56. > :10:07.difficult for him but it is a great attitude to go in with because it is

:10:08. > :10:11.possible for him. The Frenchman had to qualify the morning after he was

:10:12. > :10:17.stripped of his gold because he took is short off as he went down the

:10:18. > :10:24.home straight. Stupidly, it is a rule, he was yellow carded and Spain

:10:25. > :10:34.appealed and it meant he got his gold medal taken away for the

:10:35. > :10:38.steeplechase. He fully deserved to get the yellow card, I think he

:10:39. > :10:42.should have been fined but I don't think he should have been

:10:43. > :10:46.disqualified. I have mixed feelings about Spain pro testing on the

:10:47. > :10:50.grounds of getting a medal. It was silly, he should not have done that,

:10:51. > :10:55.everyone knows you have to cross the line with your best on and the

:10:56. > :10:59.number displayed and I think it is disrespectful to those behind him.

:11:00. > :11:02.He said he was not doing that but I think he was saying he was so good

:11:03. > :11:10.he had time to take his shirt off and still finish. Stopping to take a

:11:11. > :11:14.flag to dedicate to your grandmother who has passed away is not the same

:11:15. > :11:21.as taking your shirt off whilst you are running. It is not within the

:11:22. > :11:27.rules, I don't think it is nice to the other competitors. I wonder how

:11:28. > :11:32.much it is fuelling him today and how angry it will make him on the

:11:33. > :11:39.track? One thing is for sure, I expect him to stay fully clothed.

:11:40. > :11:44.COMMENTATOR: That might not be at bad idea. Chris O'Hare having a last

:11:45. > :11:49.few thoughts to himself. Recently got engaged to his American

:11:50. > :11:59.girlfriend after the Commonwealth Games. Saw nice pictures of that

:12:00. > :12:03.happy occasion in Edinburgh. Can he make it a huge celebration? I think

:12:04. > :12:07.in that interview he talked about silver and bronze, that is a

:12:08. > :12:19.stretch, this is a hugely competitive field. I should mention

:12:20. > :12:26.that Jakub Holusa is not running. This is who will be lining up. Three

:12:27. > :12:33.Germans in this, Timo Benitz, dangerous 800 metres specialist.

:12:34. > :12:49.Henrik Ingebrigtsen is the offending championship -- defending champion.

:12:50. > :12:58.It is going to be difficult. It is going to be a hard race, it will be

:12:59. > :13:05.a good race I think, wide open and competitive with a lot of edge.

:13:06. > :13:07.Great support in the stadium. Henrik Ingebrigtsen the reigning champion

:13:08. > :13:13.and the British athletes they are, Chris O'Hare who may have flourished

:13:14. > :13:18.on the American indoor circuit when he went to university in tools up

:13:19. > :13:24.but he grew up on the cross-country circuit all around Scotland as a

:13:25. > :13:29.young man. There is the champion, can he defend his title? He has ran

:13:30. > :13:35.to personal bests in the last week, he is not in bad shape. He has been

:13:36. > :13:42.running very well and has always been very good tactically and has

:13:43. > :13:49.added those times to his armoury. Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad, will he

:13:50. > :13:53.get it right? He can finish fast but will he be allowed to? He came from

:13:54. > :13:55.so far back in qualification but I don't think he will be able to do

:13:56. > :14:18.that here. 13 will line up. Charlie Grice, I

:14:19. > :14:23.young athlete who is really pushing himself to the fore with Chris

:14:24. > :14:31.O'Hare. Great Britain have not won a medal in this event since 1986. We

:14:32. > :14:50.were first and second then. Thankfully. The right way round.

:14:51. > :15:01.and Chris O'Hear. We expect a slow least because there are no real

:15:02. > :15:14.frontrunners. As expected, David Bustos goes to the front. Chris

:15:15. > :15:15.O'Hear has settled to the back. The defending champion Henrik

:15:16. > :15:27.Ingebrigtsen with his trademark sunglasses. On the inside, Mahiedine

:15:28. > :15:37.Mekhissi-Benabbad trying to push his way through for no obvious reason.

:15:38. > :15:44.You can sense the race evolving. It is turning into a tactical affair so

:15:45. > :15:48.it is about positioning. It will not be about physical effort until the

:15:49. > :15:58.closing stages. It is about committing yourself to when you make

:15:59. > :16:11.the decision. They are bunching and he is not doing a bad job at the

:16:12. > :16:19.back. Keirin or Lenard is close with Paul Robinson in there as well.

:16:20. > :16:27.Chris Haughey are preparing to settle at the back. This is when

:16:28. > :16:38.athletes get nervous. Two laps to go. The next lark is about getting

:16:39. > :16:46.yourself into position. Timo Benitz is in a good position. Chris or

:16:47. > :16:53.heard starting to make a move. -- Chris O'Hare. Chris Haughey has

:16:54. > :17:13.taken the first couple of laps very easy. 2.10, that is just jogging.

:17:14. > :17:18.Ciaran O'Lionaird takes a front. And now a stumble. There's all sorts of

:17:19. > :17:34.problems. Chris Haughey is in the lead. As soon as a move is made

:17:35. > :17:42.there is panic. And Charlie Grice has gone down. Charlie Grice has

:17:43. > :17:46.gone down. Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad is on the front.

:17:47. > :17:50.He is attacking hard. That is a big surprise by Mahiedine

:17:51. > :18:00.Mekhissi-Benabbad. He has made a big effort. He is trying to atone for

:18:01. > :18:04.the ever in the steeplechase. He has gone exceptionally hard. He has got

:18:05. > :18:13.200 metres left but they are chasing him down. Chris O'Hear has still got

:18:14. > :18:22.the chance of a medal. They are chasing hard. Mahiedine

:18:23. > :18:25.Mekhissi-Benabbad is waving to the crowd, asking for their support.

:18:26. > :18:32.Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad is going to take the gold. Henrik

:18:33. > :18:47.Ingebrigtsen the silver. Chris O'Hear the bronze medal. No

:18:48. > :18:52.redemption for the man from France. I do not like the way that he treats

:18:53. > :18:59.his competitors. I like people to run to the line hard. Bad luck for

:19:00. > :19:12.Charlie Grice. The first move was made Chris O'Hare by and that

:19:13. > :19:18.treated all of the panic. I know you were defending this man, Brendan. He

:19:19. > :19:21.is controversial when he does not need to be controversial. Just run,

:19:22. > :19:28.you are great athlete that can win gold medals. Why do you always have

:19:29. > :19:33.to caught this controversy? It is the other athletes that think it is

:19:34. > :19:37.disrespectful to them. You are good and when you beat people by a long

:19:38. > :19:48.way, that is great, but celebrate the right way. We saw all types of

:19:49. > :19:54.things going on today. Keirin or Lenard on the back straight runs

:19:55. > :20:02.into problems. He is stripped from behind and stumbles. The entire

:20:03. > :20:11.field has to go round him. -- tripped. They come to the bill.

:20:12. > :20:18.Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad controversially had the gold medal

:20:19. > :20:20.from him. Charlie Grice goes down and that is unfortunate. Mahiedine

:20:21. > :20:25.Mekhissi-Benabbad looking over his shoulder. Charlie Grice falls over

:20:26. > :20:31.the German. All types of controversial things going on in the

:20:32. > :20:36.three is. I wonder whether Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad coming hard causes

:20:37. > :20:51.that. You can see the German with the sunglasses. As he comes across,

:20:52. > :20:55.I think that might be Florian Orth. I would not want to stick everything

:20:56. > :20:59.on Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad. He is not that by the bloke. He is

:21:00. > :21:08.looking over his shoulder and watching people fall. On the inside

:21:09. > :21:16.is Chris O'Hare. Charlie Grice does a forward roll, and another one. At

:21:17. > :21:20.least he got up. We are looking at the champion, Mahiedine

:21:21. > :21:29.Mekhissi-Benabbad. Henrik Ingebrigtsen the former champion. At

:21:30. > :21:33.this point Chris O'Hare has given himself a lot to do. Mahiedine

:21:34. > :21:37.Mekhissi-Benabbad is waving to the crowd and celebrating. Again it is

:21:38. > :21:42.controversial. But he was delighted to win the gold medal. Henrik

:21:43. > :21:49.Ingebrigtsen is second and a good performance by Chris O'Hare to get

:21:50. > :21:53.the bronze medal. I think this athlete has run well and to come out

:21:54. > :21:57.of these championships without a gold medal would be very hard for

:21:58. > :22:04.him. He has came here to prove a point. He is very extravagant. I do

:22:05. > :22:09.not think there is anything there that is casting aspersions on the

:22:10. > :22:16.other athletes, he is encouraging the trade. I am not doubting his

:22:17. > :22:31.ability but half of the crowd where jeering him. He is not enjoying a

:22:32. > :22:38.particularly the lap of honour. Let us talk about Chris O'Hare he looked

:22:39. > :22:45.like he had lost the medal but he came back well down the home

:22:46. > :22:48.straight. All of the trouble on the last lap happened behind him so he

:22:49. > :22:56.was fortunate about where he was position. Soufiane El Kabbouri is

:22:57. > :23:00.embracing his competitors, RBA embracing him? I know it is

:23:01. > :23:09.controversial and people are not sure about him. He had a gold medal

:23:10. > :23:14.taken away from home and that is controversial. Today, whatever you

:23:15. > :23:18.say about that, it was a very impressive performance by a very

:23:19. > :23:23.controversial man. Something happens to him, Steve. At the end of a race

:23:24. > :23:34.we see all kinds of things going on. Thank you, Brendan. One of the

:23:35. > :23:44.unlucky men out of the dash out there, C. You cannot legislate for

:23:45. > :23:57.that. -- you were one of the unlucky men, Charlie. I am very angry. You

:23:58. > :24:01.always try to keep yourself out of trouble but you are cut, you are

:24:02. > :24:06.bruised. I thought I could do very well today because I felt good on

:24:07. > :24:10.Friday. I am confident I would been in the medals and I am very angry. I

:24:11. > :24:14.thought I could keep yourself out of trouble and I was not in a bad

:24:15. > :24:22.position. The man in front of me fell and I got pushed from behind. I

:24:23. > :24:24.am in one piece so hopefully I can finish off the rest of the season.

:24:25. > :24:34.Thank you very much. Charlie was very upset and apologies

:24:35. > :24:44.if his language upset or offended you. He was aggrieved about how the

:24:45. > :24:46.race ended. I know how you sit in the about Mahiedine

:24:47. > :24:58.Mekhissi-Benabbad, Pol. Let us focus on the positive. He handled himself

:24:59. > :25:03.-- handled himself very well, Chris O'Hare. He gathered himself and came

:25:04. > :25:08.back into the fight. He got to the third place. His little shake of the

:25:09. > :25:12.head afterwards could have been because he felt he could have got

:25:13. > :25:17.silver. He really deserved that third place. I have to feel for

:25:18. > :25:23.Charlie because he got up ones that got pushed back down again. It was

:25:24. > :25:29.very unlucky for him. That she got up ones but got pushed back down. It

:25:30. > :25:34.is the first medal in this event for a British athlete since Steve Cram

:25:35. > :25:37.in 1986. It is an event that Britain has had a rich heritage in. Let us

:25:38. > :25:49.hear from Chris O'Hare. You came storming down the home

:25:50. > :25:55.straight. I did not want to be at the front that early. I wanted to be

:25:56. > :26:02.at the front with 250 to go, not 500. There was a bigger fall, it was

:26:03. > :26:11.Charlie that went down. They had to pick my heels up so I did not get

:26:12. > :26:15.caught up in it. I had to take it out and I got trapped when Mahiedine

:26:16. > :26:18.Mekhissi-Benabbad took the front. He pushed hard and I don't think

:26:19. > :26:23.anybody was catching him at that point. I try to get on the inside of

:26:24. > :26:28.the Spaniard and he closed the door on me. He was tying up pretty

:26:29. > :26:33.quickly and I had to jump back outside. I think I may could have

:26:34. > :26:38.challenged Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad in the last 100

:26:39. > :26:42.metres if I was closer. He is running on a lot of emotion at the

:26:43. > :26:47.moment and it showed, he ran a very good race. What you think of

:26:48. > :26:54.somebody celebrating the way that he did down the home straight. I think

:26:55. > :26:58.jeering him was silly. Regardless of what he did, he made a mistake, he

:26:59. > :27:02.broke the rules and should have been disqualified. I do not have an

:27:03. > :27:11.opinion on that, I know better than that. He came out today and ran a

:27:12. > :27:14.superb race. It was a heck of a field to date so for him to run away

:27:15. > :27:28.like that, he does not deserve to be brewed. -- field out there. This

:27:29. > :27:32.year has been a bit of a mess so I am happy to come out of it with

:27:33. > :27:38.something. I am looking forward to next year. I am done with the season

:27:39. > :27:44.now. I only took about three days off after Moscow last year. It is

:27:45. > :27:49.basically been a two-year season. That is not much fun. I am glad it

:27:50. > :27:55.is over. It is a fantastic team that has helped me get here in the first

:27:56. > :28:00.place. My family and my support team. I just got engaged to the most

:28:01. > :28:02.beautiful woman in the world. Congratulations on that and

:28:03. > :28:07.congratulations for your bronze medal today.

:28:08. > :28:16.We have to ring the bell. The first of the day and hopefully one of many

:28:17. > :28:27.more. It is a bronze medal for Chris O'Hare, the first medal since 1986.

:28:28. > :28:30.It is a wonderful achievement in the midst of that chaotic race. It

:28:31. > :28:37.sounds like he needs time to recharge his batteries. It has been

:28:38. > :28:40.a really long year for him. He struggled with an injury which meant

:28:41. > :28:49.he could not come out and race when he wanted to. He was battling to get

:28:50. > :28:54.ready in time for Glasgow. He held it well today and coped well in the

:28:55. > :28:57.middle of that messy race as he called it. He managed to keep

:28:58. > :29:00.fighting right to the line and grabbed the medal which she really

:29:01. > :29:08.deserved out of that race. We will have more time to talk about

:29:09. > :29:16.Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad. We need to go down to the track for the four

:29:17. > :29:27.x 400 m relay final. Child is leading Britain off.

:29:28. > :29:53.She is one of two changes for the British team. Look out for Russia in

:29:54. > :29:57.lean three and France in a lean six. Great Britain and Northern Ireland

:29:58. > :30:09.not with the same hopes with the men, strong hopes in the men's race,

:30:10. > :30:14.but Eilidh Child coming in. Emily Diamond misses out, she ran the

:30:15. > :30:19.opening leg yesterday. Victoria Ohuruogu is dropped as well. And

:30:20. > :30:31.Christine Ohuruogu is too tired after her individual efforts. What

:30:32. > :30:36.do you think about this line-up? I think it is a good idea to bring in

:30:37. > :30:39.Eilidh Child. Christine not available. Jodie Williams was an

:30:40. > :30:51.option that she will be running in the four x 100 metres. It is not a

:30:52. > :31:08.very strong quartet for Germany, they struggled. The Russian quartet.

:31:09. > :31:17.The won the heat, just ahead of Great Britain.

:31:18. > :31:24.Eilidh Child, the 400 metre hurdles champion leads them off. Kelly

:31:25. > :31:33.Massey, she was disappointed not to be in the individual, in lean to,

:31:34. > :31:50.Margaret Hadaway bringing them home. That Ayew Margaret

:31:51. > :32:26.Libania Grenot comes in for Italy and will run the anchor leg. But she

:32:27. > :32:34.might have a little bit too much to do. Great Britain and Northern

:32:35. > :32:41.Ireland have won this once. After go back to 1969 for that, I good auld

:32:42. > :32:50.tussle with France. -- the good old tussle.

:32:51. > :33:12.A medal is certainly well within their grasp.

:33:13. > :33:23.Eilidh Child will be flying in terms of confidence and spirits after her

:33:24. > :33:27.victory in the hurdles. She has gone off at a steady pace. Already the

:33:28. > :33:34.Ukrainian athlete has taken a big chunk out of her, and moving past

:33:35. > :33:38.the French athlete on the outside, a strong run so far from the

:33:39. > :33:41.Ukrainians. They really are the favourites but Child coming back.

:33:42. > :33:48.The Russians starting to make themselves felt as well. Eilidh

:33:49. > :33:55.Child might have placed this very well. That is why she is on this

:33:56. > :34:04.first leg, to get Britain in amongst it. I think there are at least four

:34:05. > :34:08.teams with a chance of medals. Great running from Eilidh Child. Put them

:34:09. > :34:13.right in the mix, Kelly Massey has got to be strong here. The Russians

:34:14. > :34:21.could be a real danger because I think we have got the best two on

:34:22. > :34:39.the last two legs. Kelly Massey right in the mix.

:34:40. > :34:47.She has run very strongly here, this race so close at the moment. What a

:34:48. > :34:51.run from Kelly Massey now, putting Great Britain in a wonderful

:34:52. > :34:59.position, into the lead now, handing off to Sheena Cox. France still in

:35:00. > :35:06.there as well. What opposition Great Britain have. She has to be careful

:35:07. > :35:09.here, judge this right, she wants to go out pretty hard so that they

:35:10. > :35:14.chase her, but not too hard that she comes into the home straight and it

:35:15. > :35:18.all closes up. She has to keep something back for the last 100

:35:19. > :35:27.metres if she can. She has gone very hard through the first 200 metres.

:35:28. > :35:29.They are going to run Sheena Cox down a little bit here, she has been

:35:30. > :35:40.really strong. Margaret it is going to be so close, Margaret

:35:41. > :36:13.at a Great Britain hanging on at the

:36:14. > :36:27.moment. Olha Zemlyak has gone out very strong. The Russian has not

:36:28. > :36:34.given up yet. The Ukraine looking for gold, trying to get gold. Here

:36:35. > :36:40.comes the French. Right on the line, so close. It may have been the

:36:41. > :36:52.French coming through on the outside. What a race, what a run.

:36:53. > :37:00.Margaret Adeoye, what a run. Marvellous finish, all to be

:37:01. > :37:06.decided. What a performance from the French, she was so far back, she ran

:37:07. > :37:11.really poor early in the individual event, did not even make the

:37:12. > :37:21.semifinal. Down the back straight I was a chance for Margaret to still

:37:22. > :37:26.win this. At the top of the home straight France were nowhere,

:37:27. > :37:33.Margaret was chasing her down and we thought she could get their, a great

:37:34. > :37:40.run on the last leg. That has got to be well under 50 seconds for the

:37:41. > :37:44.Frenchwoman. As you said, she did not make the finals of the

:37:45. > :37:53.individuals, the relays can do funny things to people. Olha Zemlyak, she

:37:54. > :37:58.paid the price later on, she got herself into a good position but

:37:59. > :38:06.went out too hard. Olha Zemlyak wants to go past the Russian, she

:38:07. > :38:09.has to put her foot down, using extra energy and now she has

:38:10. > :38:16.committed, she has got to go now, Margaret at this point does not

:38:17. > :38:23.panicked. They are going away but she knows she will stay strong in

:38:24. > :38:28.the home straight. But look at the Frenchwoman, miles behind, chasing,

:38:29. > :38:36.chasing, chasing, the Russians starts to tie up, she is a 200-metre

:38:37. > :38:41.runner, and the French thinks I can get second, I can get third on, I

:38:42. > :38:48.might win this. And as Olha Zemlyak ties up, Margaret on the inside,

:38:49. > :39:06.French on the outside. Marvellous race. Floria Guei, look at that.

:39:07. > :39:18.Looking at the line, it is not getting any closer, all has a lack

:39:19. > :39:32.-- Olha Zemlyak. Floria Guei, look at this. Very good time for Great

:39:33. > :39:38.Britain, so almost a gold. It is a bronze medal and that is worth

:39:39. > :39:45.celebrating. There they are, they will have their celebrations. They

:39:46. > :39:55.are setting up for the men's four x 400 to come. Confirmation of that.

:39:56. > :40:13.Well done Floria Guei. What an interesting couple of

:40:14. > :40:27.moments we have had on the track. This is what it does to the medal

:40:28. > :40:32.table, good times for France. We need to turn some bronze and silver

:40:33. > :40:37.into gold if we are to eclipse the best ever, which is nine golds at a

:40:38. > :40:41.championship. We have two ring the bell, we got a bronze. We will

:40:42. > :40:47.choose Kelly Massey to put the bronze on because we cannot put all

:40:48. > :40:53.of the faces on. Kelly Massey represents the quartet, antarctic

:40:54. > :40:56.second leg to set them up. I would like to introduce women who have

:40:57. > :41:02.already got their medals around their neck, Jo Pavey and Lynsey

:41:03. > :41:09.Sharp. Congratulations to both of you, we have not had a chance to see

:41:10. > :41:17.you up here Lynsey Sharp, how are you feeling? Pretty tired, but happy

:41:18. > :41:18.with yesterday. Let's relive those magnificent final moments for you Jo

:41:19. > :41:30.Pavey. The women's 10,000 metres final, is

:41:31. > :41:39.it a night of destiny for Jo Pavey? She is running herself into a

:41:40. > :41:47.medal. She has got to keep going. Jo Pavey has never won gold medal at a

:41:48. > :41:53.major championship. Taking away. Here she goes. It is called for Jo

:41:54. > :41:55.Pavey. She is the champion. Jo Pavey has finally come of age at the age

:41:56. > :42:06.of 40. The overnight sensation! I know it

:42:07. > :42:11.has been a long time coming, I must first ask about the 5000 metres and

:42:12. > :42:18.how you felt during and after? I think I struggled to recover, but I

:42:19. > :42:22.am glad I gave it a go. I had been given the honour of being selected

:42:23. > :42:26.so I had to do it, I went out and tried to do it, but there was

:42:27. > :42:35.nothing there. Overall I am so thrilled. You set the ball rolling.

:42:36. > :42:40.You were the first gold medal and the rush has come and a great

:42:41. > :42:44.performances have come. We have had such a great teams Bennett, having

:42:45. > :42:51.the young and the old all working together, trying to run well as a

:42:52. > :42:54.team, it has been awesome. I think I need to improve the face I pool as I

:42:55. > :43:02.crossed the line, it is a bit embarrassing. -- I pull. How much

:43:03. > :43:07.did that performance permeates through the squad? It has been

:43:08. > :43:11.amazing to see everyone competing earlier in the week, to want to be

:43:12. > :43:15.part of this group of people with medals, you want to walk away from

:43:16. > :43:20.the championship having done your country proud. Absolutely, the

:43:21. > :43:27.atmosphere today is really special and out there right now the girls

:43:28. > :43:30.are enjoying their moment. Kelly Massey who ran a fantastic second

:43:31. > :43:37.leg to move Britain into the lead, they got bronze just a few moments

:43:38. > :43:42.ago. After the Commonwealth Games, you were really suffering and had

:43:43. > :43:45.your illness, very emotional, one of the most emotional post race

:43:46. > :43:49.interviews I have seen in a long time, was there ever I doubt in your

:43:50. > :43:55.mind you would get your fitness back? It was hard to turn around so

:43:56. > :43:59.quickly, I lost a bit of weight after being so pale in Glasgow. I

:44:00. > :44:04.wanted to enjoy it for a few days then get my head back down, come out

:44:05. > :44:10.here and be part of the team. But this is what of funding is about, I

:44:11. > :44:18.wanted to come here and do Britain proud. What about the attention you

:44:19. > :44:22.have had Jo Pavey, I was speaking to my sister in America, she has not

:44:23. > :44:27.lived in the UK for 20 years and she was asking who this amazing woman

:44:28. > :44:32.was. There is a beautiful piece in the Sunday Times today about you as

:44:33. > :44:39.well, people have been captured by your story. I have been so

:44:40. > :44:44.fortunate, I cannot believe how interested everyone has been. It has

:44:45. > :44:47.taken me until the age of 40 to get a gold medal, it is quite amusing, I

:44:48. > :44:54.never thought I would eventually get one. People really relate to, I

:44:55. > :44:58.think it is those of us who are a bit older and perhaps think that we

:44:59. > :45:08.do not have that any more. I think it is because Jo is so normal, she

:45:09. > :45:15.is the same person I knew back in 1998. So many people can relate to

:45:16. > :45:29.her, the family, even children can relate and be inspired by what she

:45:30. > :45:37.is still achieving. It makes it seem attainable. Not attainable to

:45:38. > :45:43.everybody, obviously. The juniors coming through really look up to

:45:44. > :45:52.Jo. She shows them what they can achieve. You are still relatively

:45:53. > :45:56.young as well, you have got time to come through and have a really good

:45:57. > :46:01.winter. You are looking forward to being fit through the winter. Being

:46:02. > :46:05.injured is the worst time for an athlete. It is easy to take for

:46:06. > :46:11.granted and last year when I was not able to compete, it is what made me

:46:12. > :46:16.so hungry, it was a blessing in disguise, I had to go work -- go

:46:17. > :46:22.back and work in the gymnasium and I am in better shape now than I was in

:46:23. > :46:26.2012. It has been difficult but everybody goes through difficult

:46:27. > :46:30.times. You really took that have raised by the scruff of the neck and

:46:31. > :46:42.decided early on that you would go to the front. -- that race. It is

:46:43. > :46:47.not the sort of thing that I usually do but I felt very confident against

:46:48. > :46:51.Glasgow and I talked it through with my coach. He said that if I find

:46:52. > :46:57.myself at the front I not to be scared because I am so strong now. I

:46:58. > :47:03.did not realise that the art was such a large gap behind me. I do not

:47:04. > :47:06.know what would've happened if I had sat in. I do not think she would

:47:07. > :47:13.have taken it on so it would've been a fight between eight us. Hopefully

:47:14. > :47:18.you will stay with us for the few moments. We are getting ready for

:47:19. > :47:19.the men's four x 400 metres. It is traditionally a good race for

:47:20. > :47:56.Britain. That is a good leg by Sanders. Chris

:47:57. > :48:08.Akabusi going for Great Britain. Akabusi has run a tremendous leg. It

:48:09. > :48:13.is now John Regis. John Regis being chased by West Germany and the

:48:14. > :48:30.soviet union. John Regis is now 15 metres clear. It is Roger Black with

:48:31. > :48:34.regards to spear. -- spare. Great Britain take the championship. They

:48:35. > :48:35.have broken the British record. They have broken the European record as

:48:36. > :48:49.well. It really was an event that Great

:48:50. > :48:54.Britain have excelled at, especially at the European Championships. You

:48:55. > :48:59.have to go back to 1978 for the last time that Great Britain have not

:49:00. > :49:04.taken a medal. It is a very strong quartet out here today. They will

:49:05. > :49:10.have high expectations of a medal, Lynsey Sharp? I train with Martyn

:49:11. > :49:20.Rooney. It is good to see him do so well, get the gold medal eventually.

:49:21. > :49:28.We will definitely being -- be going for gold. There is Conrad Williams

:49:29. > :49:33.who is leading them off. It is an event that is exciting and less

:49:34. > :49:40.risky with the changeover is vanny 100 metres. It can still get messy.

:49:41. > :49:50.It is a little bit easier because they are not running as fast. There

:49:51. > :50:00.are still cant be that change in the last 100 metres and it can be messy.

:50:01. > :50:06.He was watching the heats yesterday and was desperate to get down. He

:50:07. > :50:10.led England home brilliantly at the Commonwealth Games for that

:50:11. > :50:13.magnificent gold medal in the rain. It was a very atmospheric evening.

:50:14. > :50:23.The ladies are with Phil Jones. Another medal for Great Britain and

:50:24. > :50:29.Northern Ireland and another medal for you. I am grateful to be part of

:50:30. > :50:42.the team. There were some very good skills that ran well yesterday. --

:50:43. > :50:47.girls. You put the team in a good position. I was very worried because

:50:48. > :50:57.I yawned a few times before I went onto the track. What is the key on

:50:58. > :51:02.the third leg? Holding on and getting around the track. Staying

:51:03. > :51:08.clear of traffic. I wanted to give Margaret a little bit of the lead so

:51:09. > :51:13.she had some room to take off and go. What an eventful last leg. You

:51:14. > :51:21.had the green charging away, fans were coming at the review. What were

:51:22. > :51:26.you sensing? When I was going around a first time, I kept having to chop

:51:27. > :51:41.my studies. I could not get into my running. -- strides. The the inside

:51:42. > :51:47.but they did not know if I could do that because I was worried about

:51:48. > :51:51.getting disqualified. Even if it means your legs dropping off at the

:51:52. > :51:57.finish line, I just went for it. It was such a close finish. Mixed

:51:58. > :52:03.emotions to be honest. I can sense that. Is it a key support might have

:52:04. > :52:08.been? We always like to get onto the podium. We always wanted to get the

:52:09. > :52:12.gold, that is what we plan for. It is a blessing to be on the podium

:52:13. > :52:16.but we have got very high standards for ourselves. It has been a long

:52:17. > :52:21.weekend, especially coming off of the Commonwealth Games were beef had

:52:22. > :52:26.some awesome performances. It was good to see what the ladies have put

:52:27. > :52:28.together in just one week. Celebrate the medal, it is well deserved.

:52:29. > :52:40.Congratulations. COMMENTATOR: the man have got a

:52:41. > :52:42.better than evens chance if you are a betting person for winning the

:52:43. > :52:54.gold medal. They are so much better than

:52:55. > :52:59.everybody else. That is a team with the addition of Matthew Hudson-Smith

:53:00. > :53:05.from yesterday. Michael Bingham moves into the third leg and Martyn

:53:06. > :53:23.Rooney on the last leg. The Russian team is pretty solid. The Polish

:53:24. > :53:33.team is always strong in the four x 400 metres. Conrad Williams, ran

:53:34. > :53:45.very well in his semifinal. He was on the outside lane and got himself

:53:46. > :53:58.into the final. Plans have got a mix of youth and experience. -- France.

:53:59. > :54:10.It is not the strongest German team that I have seen. Out in lane eight,

:54:11. > :54:15.it was a glorious run by the Irish team to make it through. The broker

:54:16. > :54:25.the national record and Thomas Barker ran a storming leg. -- they

:54:26. > :54:37.broke. Great Britain with the stellar

:54:38. > :54:46.team. The question is how fast do the guys want to go? This quartet

:54:47. > :55:07.are capable of getting under three minutes.

:55:08. > :55:15.The British and European record is 2.56. I think that could be out of

:55:16. > :55:24.reach. The championship best performance that was definitely

:55:25. > :55:30.within their reach. Conrad Williams wants to get them off to a good

:55:31. > :55:37.start. Brian Gregan has started well for Ireland on the outside. The

:55:38. > :55:51.stager will unfold after the third event. -- third bend. The German was

:55:52. > :56:08.a labouring in the last few metres. Matthew Hudson-Smith with his

:56:09. > :56:12.bounding stride. Matthew Hudson-Smith settles behind the

:56:13. > :56:19.Russian with the French athlete just behind. Holland and Belgium are also

:56:20. > :56:27.in there. Matthew Hudson-Smith makes his move. He looks like he was

:56:28. > :56:31.cruising down the back straight. Matthew Hudson-Smith looks tired. He

:56:32. > :56:36.will hand over with Britain and a good position. Michael Bingham

:56:37. > :56:43.immediately storms to the front. Martyn Rooney on the last leg is

:56:44. > :56:48.still to come. It is interesting to see the split for Matthew

:56:49. > :56:52.Hudson-Smith. He did look tired towards the handover. Michael

:56:53. > :56:57.Bingham flew off. The Rocher -- the Russian easy is just behind. The

:56:58. > :57:06.French athlete is bearing down on them. Michael Bingham is looking for

:57:07. > :57:11.a second kick to maintain that lead and together to the individual

:57:12. > :57:19.champion Matthew Rooney. Where has that one came from from the Russian?

:57:20. > :57:22.Britain with a red-hot favourites to win. They now need to be a red-hot

:57:23. > :57:29.favourites to win. They now need their top man to race against an old

:57:30. > :57:35.rival of his. The two men nor each other well. Martyn Rooney is in the

:57:36. > :57:45.shape of his life. France are in the third spot. Martyn Rooney attacks

:57:46. > :57:54.around the top bend. The Russian trying to hold him off. Martyn

:57:55. > :57:59.Rooney, the individual gold-medallist will bring Great

:58:00. > :58:05.Britain home to win the four x 400 metres relay. Gold for Britain.

:58:06. > :58:14.Russia take the silver and Poland just perhaps getting nearer for the

:58:15. > :58:21.bronze. It was under three minutes. That was a storming leg by Martyn

:58:22. > :58:25.Rooney. Hats off to the Russians for putting in a good performance in

:58:26. > :58:34.second place. Martyn Rooney had to be good and strong. He has got gold

:58:35. > :58:42.in his site now. Poland just coming through for the bronze medal. Had

:58:43. > :58:48.run from them. Matthew Hudson-Smith, 44.5. He was not that

:58:49. > :59:00.slow it was just that the Russians were stronger than expected. Martyn

:59:01. > :59:04.Rooney judged it so well and no signs of fatigue from his individual

:59:05. > :59:08.efforts. It was a QuickTime but not quite championship record. Ireland

:59:09. > :59:22.have managed to get a national record. They took a big of their

:59:23. > :59:37.national record. That was the six fastest performance by a British

:59:38. > :59:42.team. -- sixth. Martyn Rooney biding his time down the back straight. He

:59:43. > :59:49.knows that this is not the time to go. The Frenchman probably loses the

:59:50. > :59:56.bronze medal by going so hard down the back straight. Look at Martyn

:59:57. > :00:04.Rooney now, he comes on the soldier -- shoulder of the Russian. He

:00:05. > :00:09.cannot hold off Martyn Rooney with the sheep that he is in. His long

:00:10. > :00:12.legs to come to the gold medal in the individual event and he's

:00:13. > :00:28.already looking at the clock as he crosses the line. Poland grabbing

:00:29. > :00:35.the bronze. Martyn Rooney, in days gone by, the Russian has had good

:00:36. > :00:39.individual races with Martyn Rooney, but here he did not quite

:00:40. > :00:43.have it. He is in the form of his life, he is now the individual

:00:44. > :00:47.champion and a gold medal in the relay as well. It was made more

:00:48. > :00:58.interesting in particular by that leg of Michael Bingham. A wonderful

:00:59. > :01:02.run from the Russian quartet, the British quartet came in as strong

:01:03. > :01:05.favourites, did not win kept by the distance we thought they might but

:01:06. > :01:11.it was a strong race and Martyn Rooney brought them home to gold.

:01:12. > :01:19.We will hear from the men once they have completed their lap of honour.

:01:20. > :01:26.As we have done for all our medal winners we have two ring the bell.

:01:27. > :01:32.You never see that man, he is just an arm. We have chosen Conrad

:01:33. > :01:38.Williams to take the gold for the quartet, we can see what it does to

:01:39. > :01:46.the medal table. It was an important one to land a of France because it

:01:47. > :01:58.ages us closer in terms of golds. -- edges. Chris O'Hare managed to get

:01:59. > :02:03.himself bronze in what was a really messy race with a few people

:02:04. > :02:12.falling, but he came through and Steve Cram is there to commentate.

:02:13. > :02:16.COMMENTATOR: Great Britain 's silver-medallist from 1986 will be

:02:17. > :02:24.presenting the medals, Lord Coe. That is the last time we won a medal

:02:25. > :02:28.in this event. Chris O'Hare, a really good performance, did not

:02:29. > :02:31.give up when it looked like his chance may have gone, believed in

:02:32. > :02:41.himself and he has got great speed and used it to great effect. Great

:02:42. > :02:45.reward for a season that at one point looked like it might go a bit

:02:46. > :02:51.wrong for him. The defending champion put up a stout defence, he

:02:52. > :02:56.has had a great season, he is only 23 and continues to improve.

:02:57. > :03:00.Norwegian records in the mile and 1500 metres and the silver medal

:03:01. > :03:01.here. I wonder what sort of reception the gold-medallist is

:03:02. > :03:07.going to get? Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad of

:03:08. > :03:28.France. A few people booing around the

:03:29. > :03:39.stadium, plight applause -- poor light. He did destroy them on the

:03:40. > :04:03.last lap. We could hear Sebastian Coe seeing interesting race. -- C

:04:04. > :05:19.I am not sure about his popularity at home, but they were singing along

:05:20. > :05:23.to the French national anthem. I thought it was fantastic. I think

:05:24. > :05:29.you are being a little bit harsh. I know you have some views on him, but

:05:30. > :05:36.he had to cross the line twice to win one gold medal so fair play to

:05:37. > :05:40.him. I would like to be known as someone who has made the country

:05:41. > :05:53.proud and collected as many medals as I can. It is a question of when

:05:54. > :05:55.Mo Farah starts to kick. Gold for Mo Farah, that is one down, one more to

:05:56. > :06:09.go. At the moment it looks like a very

:06:10. > :06:14.relaxed time. He will be going for his second gold of these

:06:15. > :06:18.championships. It was a second gold for Martyn Rooney as part of the

:06:19. > :06:22.four x 400-metre quartet. They are very happy with their performance,

:06:23. > :06:33.they are a well drilled, world-class quartet. Yes, the sixth fastest by

:06:34. > :06:37.we have ever seen by a British quartet. They will be looking to

:06:38. > :06:43.push America at the World Championships, they will mature, get

:06:44. > :06:48.stronger and quicker. They all did wonderfully well as a team, for me

:06:49. > :06:51.the important thing is that they believe in one another, as a team

:06:52. > :06:56.they run for one another. When you have that kind of camaraderie it

:06:57. > :07:00.puts you in a good place before going out and performing. When you

:07:01. > :07:12.have got the European champion on the final leg, he is beautiful,

:07:13. > :07:16.fluids, confident. When he came to this stage, this was the point in

:07:17. > :07:20.his individual race where he really puts his foot down but I think he is

:07:21. > :07:25.thinking he is in control and doesn't want to do anything to

:07:26. > :07:28.sensational to early. Knows says other team members have worked hard

:07:29. > :07:33.to put him in this position and he takes this really well indeed. Great

:07:34. > :07:40.performance, big smile and rewarded with another gold medal. You can see

:07:41. > :07:47.how much it means to Martyn Rooney because the nights before he had won

:07:48. > :07:56.his individual gold medal, he came out and ran the heats. It must be a

:07:57. > :08:01.fantastic feeling for those guys, knowing they are getting it around

:08:02. > :08:05.well, feeling good and producing times individually, to come together

:08:06. > :08:12.as a quartet, it is a rare opportunity to be in a team in your

:08:13. > :08:23.sport. Yes, I am kind of jealous, I wish I was fast enough. I think the

:08:24. > :08:26.women's team is a newer quartet that has been put together so perhaps in

:08:27. > :08:36.the next couple of years we might see them going on with gold medals.

:08:37. > :08:41.What has your season got on now Jo? I don't know, I am taking it one day

:08:42. > :08:47.at the time. I want to do more track races, I will be representing Europe

:08:48. > :08:52.at an event in Marrakesh and I will do some road races in the autumn. I

:08:53. > :08:57.am enjoying it and will take each day at a time. And the small matter

:08:58. > :09:01.of getting your little boy off to school? Yes, that will be a shock,

:09:02. > :09:05.we have been used to doing what we want but now it will be a legal

:09:06. > :09:11.requirement that he goes to school. That will be a shock. Yes and hours

:09:12. > :09:19.he will have to keep will dictate your training as well. Good luck.

:09:20. > :09:29.Lynsey racing in Birmingham next week? Yes I am. We will see you

:09:30. > :09:34.there, good luck. Greg Rutherford is in Birmingham next week as well, but

:09:35. > :09:38.this week the very important task of trying to add a European title to

:09:39. > :09:45.his Olympic and Commonwealth gold. How is he getting on? On a memorable

:09:46. > :09:52.night in London Greg Rutherford became the Olympic champion. But the

:09:53. > :10:02.fairy tale did not last, the following year brought a change of

:10:03. > :10:06.course coach and a loss of funding. But he has shown the ability to turn

:10:07. > :10:11.things around and earlier this summer brought the British record

:10:12. > :10:14.with a jump of eight metres 51 in San Diego and just a few weeks ago

:10:15. > :10:24.brought home gold at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Look

:10:25. > :10:28.at that. Well done Greg. I am over the moon, I think people had written

:10:29. > :10:32.me off, thought I was a one-hit wonder, but I am here to prove I can

:10:33. > :10:43.still do it and we'll do it many times. His main competition comes

:10:44. > :10:46.from Germany's Christian Reif. The victories may not have come from

:10:47. > :10:50.record-breaking jumps but the bottom line is that he is a fierce

:10:51. > :10:56.competitor and he can triumph over his rivals when it matters. With a

:10:57. > :10:59.fast track and the right conditions let's hope we can see him at a

:11:00. > :11:06.European title to his collection tonight. -- at

:11:07. > :11:14.That is the season so far for Greg Rutherford, Steve is out there with

:11:15. > :11:22.his eyes closely on the competition. As he jumped yet? Not yet, we are

:11:23. > :11:30.still waiting for his first attempt. In fact, there he is. We will take

:11:31. > :11:34.this first round, the Commonwealth champion as we saw, he has been in

:11:35. > :11:45.such great form all summer. The first round is always a chance. It

:11:46. > :11:50.is always a chance, I was going to say, to set a mark and put the rest

:11:51. > :12:02.of the field under pressure. We will wait and see what that first attempt

:12:03. > :12:12.was for Greg. 7.95, into a significant wind. It is the longest

:12:13. > :12:20.jump so far, he is the third to jump in the men's final. Tents, -- tents,

:12:21. > :12:24.but he likes to settle into a competition. You get six goals in a

:12:25. > :12:33.long jump final if you make the top eight. He will need more than that,

:12:34. > :12:39.and he knows it. That competition has got a long way to go, we will

:12:40. > :12:47.keep you posted. Let's head down to Phil Jones who I believe has caught

:12:48. > :12:51.up with the relay quartet. Yes, the golden boys altogether, Conrad you

:12:52. > :13:03.have waited so many years for a gold medal, no Commonwealth and European.

:13:04. > :13:08.INAUDIBLE We were going for the European

:13:09. > :13:15.record. It is good to be out there. We showed how strong the team is. I

:13:16. > :13:20.am pro of the guys, proud of myself, I am happy with the gold medal. I

:13:21. > :13:25.want to thank everyone at home, the national lottery and all of you. Can

:13:26. > :13:34.you quite believe what has been happening to you these last few

:13:35. > :13:42.weeks? No, no. It has been a hell of a journey and I am enjoying it. It

:13:43. > :13:47.is just the start for you, that is the thing about this guy, he is just

:13:48. > :13:53.starting out and already this great success. Adding quality to this team

:13:54. > :13:57.and this experience. I think when he first came on we all came around

:13:58. > :14:04.him, we wanted him to be part of the team and it was a good experience,

:14:05. > :14:12.he really showed the whole environment a lot. We kept

:14:13. > :14:19.camaraderie between the team. It has been a hard year for me especially,

:14:20. > :14:28.I am getting back into form. Two golds I will take that. But still

:14:29. > :14:43.looking from that 2.56. I am sure it is just a matter of time. INAUDIBLE

:14:44. > :14:47.2013 was uneventful year for more than one reason. This year it has

:14:48. > :15:22.been really positive and things have gone very well, I cannot complain.

:15:23. > :15:29.medal. They all ran so well. It was a great race, so nearly there on the

:15:30. > :15:35.line. It was nearly gold. The bronze medal was last achieved by Britain

:15:36. > :16:04.four years ago. This event has been dominated by Russia and Ukraine over

:16:05. > :16:09.the last recent championships. Ukraine could not defend their title

:16:10. > :16:49.but they still have smiles for silver. France came from so far

:16:50. > :17:32.back. It was a real team effort. This was one of the hard earned

:17:33. > :17:38.victory is in this championships for France in the four x 400 metres. We

:17:39. > :17:48.will hear the French national anthem once again.

:17:49. > :18:54.The stirrings of a man from that has been held many times at these

:18:55. > :18:59.championships. It was here once again. Bronze Great Britain, silver

:19:00. > :19:10.for the Ukraine but champions are France.

:19:11. > :19:15.Chris Tomlinson in this long jump final. He has seen Greg

:19:16. > :19:38.Rutherfordpos-mac 7.95. He did not like that. He was good on

:19:39. > :19:46.the board. I do not quite know what happened there. His left leg seem to

:19:47. > :19:57.get loose. He looks like he has got a strapping around his head. It was

:19:58. > :20:04.a bit sloppy. -- his hip. He was also jumping into the wind. It was

:20:05. > :20:11.not the start that he wanted but it is still very early stages.

:20:12. > :20:18.Not the best start for Chris Tomlinson. There is Mo Farah,

:20:19. > :20:24.wandering in, looking very relaxed ahead of his 5000 metres. He is

:20:25. > :20:30.going for his second gold medal in these championships and it will be

:20:31. > :20:35.his second European double. He will have settled his nerves in the

:20:36. > :20:39.10,000 metres. By all accounts he is feeling good but before that, it is

:20:40. > :20:44.the women's 3000 metres steeplechase.

:20:45. > :20:53.COMMENTATOR: I am just looking at the size of Chris Tomlinson compared

:20:54. > :20:57.to the steeplechase athletes. We do not have any British athletes

:20:58. > :21:18.involved. The qualifying standard was very tough. Sander Eriksson is

:21:19. > :21:26.one of the favourites for this race. -- Sandra. We will head back to the

:21:27. > :21:37.field as we wait for the start of the race. As the Spaniard waits for

:21:38. > :21:44.his jumper to be measured, it is time for JJ Jegede. He is the third

:21:45. > :21:59.of the British athletes. He finished seventh in the Commonwealth Games.

:22:00. > :22:05.8.03 is the lead. 8.05 is the season is best for JJ Jegede.

:22:06. > :22:17.That looks reasonable and it is a first round. The athletes looked

:22:18. > :22:20.tense. The athletes look at each other wondering who will take this

:22:21. > :22:31.competition by the scruff of the neck. His personal best came two

:22:32. > :22:37.years ago. We wait for that jump to be measured. 8.03 is what he is

:22:38. > :22:53.chasing. It is the lead for the Dutch athlete. 12 athletes start and

:22:54. > :22:55.all get free Mac jumps. The next best eight get a father free Mac

:22:56. > :23:37.jumps. The noise from the crowd as for the

:23:38. > :23:39.Swiss athlete in this race. Charlotta Fougberg has suddenly

:23:40. > :23:53.found her stature as an international athlete. She had

:23:54. > :24:00.serious health problems in 2010 and has the chance of a medal today. The

:24:01. > :24:08.climate could sell each just on the outside. The champion from Belarus.

:24:09. > :24:24.-- Sviatlana Kudzelich. Sander Eriksson coming to the start

:24:25. > :24:43.line has got a very good chance of a gold medal for Sweden. Some people

:24:44. > :24:47.felt that the qualifying standard was set to fail -- set too high and

:24:48. > :24:57.evolution Colburn was just outside of that. -- a leash McColgan.

:24:58. > :25:05.We have got a big team and a successful team. We have got an

:25:06. > :25:12.interesting race ahead of us. Philip have won one gold medal in these

:25:13. > :25:18.championships. -- Finland. It was a personal best a few weeks ago for

:25:19. > :25:29.Sandra Eriksson. She came to Glasgow and had a good performance. I think

:25:30. > :25:33.we have got a slow measuring team on the long jump today. Let us go back

:25:34. > :25:46.to the field. This is a look back at the second

:25:47. > :26:03.round of the women's shot put final. This was the longest throw. It was

:26:04. > :26:10.unexpected victory for Christina Schwanitz. It was one of the ten

:26:11. > :26:29.best films of 2000 14. She was a huge favourite. -- ten best throws

:26:30. > :26:36.of 2014. Christina Schwanitz takes the gold medal at the European

:26:37. > :26:42.Championships. Big celebration. He can see it is quite windy. The

:26:43. > :26:55.javelin competition is about to start.

:26:56. > :27:14.It is the favourites out in front in the steeplechase at the moment. He

:27:15. > :27:17.can get things wrong in the water jump. If you are watching the

:27:18. > :27:25.steeplechase for the first time, you can lose a lot of ground. I was

:27:26. > :27:29.watching the Latvian athlete, Polina Jelizarova, she got it wrong and she

:27:30. > :27:41.had to pull out. She got her landing wrong. The water gets shallow one of

:27:42. > :27:43.the father that you jump. -- the water gets more shallow the fervour

:27:44. > :27:51.that you jump. This could be a fast race, they are

:27:52. > :28:07.working together and setting the pace. The athlete from Belarus,

:28:08. > :28:25.Sviatlana Kudzelich is leading the race. The only two women who have

:28:26. > :28:33.went below 30 is Sandra Eriksson and Charlotta Fougberg. They are very

:28:34. > :28:38.evenly matches. You are looking at the two Germans been very strong.

:28:39. > :28:44.And also the woman that is leading at the moment, the athlete from

:28:45. > :28:56.Belarus. In terms of the world, they are just behind the Ethiopians. In

:28:57. > :29:05.GDP in terms, it is really Sandra Eriksson and Charlotta Fougberg who

:29:06. > :29:18.have been setting the pace. She is taking it on strongly. Diana Martin.

:29:19. > :29:23.And the prerace favourite, Sandra Eriksson, has been overtaken.

:29:24. > :29:28.Factory fitted landing at the water jump is not doing her any favours.

:29:29. > :29:45.She is about in seventh place on the back straight. Diana Martin is

:29:46. > :29:48.leading. They all hurdle with one foot on the barrier and once again a

:29:49. > :29:55.double fitted landing. And look at Sandra Eriksson she has lost five

:29:56. > :30:04.yards. That technique is not impossible.

:30:05. > :30:19.Greg Rutherford, round two of the long jump final. Greg Rutherford is

:30:20. > :30:22.a great response. He is the Olympic champion from 2012 and the

:30:23. > :30:32.Commonwealth champion from a couple of weeks ago. That is very much

:30:33. > :30:38.better, it was clean on the board, he has been very well drilled and

:30:39. > :30:43.has set a high benchmark now. That is what we were hoping to see, I was

:30:44. > :30:49.hoping for that in the first round, but here he is, Greg Rutherford, he

:30:50. > :31:03.likes it. 8.27, he has taken the lead, but drastic stuff -- fantastic

:31:04. > :31:10.stuff. He was quick on the runway and he takes the lead.

:31:11. > :31:19.The atmosphere growing for the Long Jump taking place and also the

:31:20. > :31:29.steeplechase. Anti-mould Schmidt to overcame cancer out in front at the

:31:30. > :31:35.moment. -- Antje Moldner-Schmidt. The Russians it about fourth place

:31:36. > :31:40.at the moment. Sandra Eriksson just hanging on to the lead group. I

:31:41. > :31:45.think she is really struggling now. I am sure it is the technique, she

:31:46. > :31:52.is losing five yards out every water jump. Now the field pulling away,

:31:53. > :31:58.gaps opening. The Swedish athletes, Charlotta Fougberg, and antemortem

:31:59. > :32:14.Schmidt -- antemortem nurse met. There is the athlete we thought was

:32:15. > :32:18.the favourite, Sandra Eriksson, watch her into the water jump, the

:32:19. > :32:24.technique lets her down again. There she goes, another two footed landing

:32:25. > :32:30.and more yards lost. That is the way she has lost the race. Her stride is

:32:31. > :32:43.shortening and she is losing touch with that group of six athletes. As

:32:44. > :32:49.the bell rings it is down to four athletes now surely for the battle

:32:50. > :33:02.for the medals. It is Charlotta Fougberg making a long run for home.

:33:03. > :33:07.Does she have anything left? She has run faster, she has got to run

:33:08. > :33:21.faster today, Diana Martin is coming with a run. Here comes the Spanish

:33:22. > :33:24.athletes now. Four into three for the medals, Charlotta Fougberg still

:33:25. > :33:36.out in front, Diana Martin still pushing well. All through the jump

:33:37. > :33:46.fairly safely. Charlotta Fougberg out in front. Who can hard all best?

:33:47. > :33:52.Charlotta Fougberg stumbles and the gold will belong, a very popular

:33:53. > :34:04.gold will belong to Anja Mulder Smith. -- Anja Mulder 's Schmidt. We

:34:05. > :34:09.talked about this woman and what she has been through in her career, four

:34:10. > :34:15.years ago she missed the whole season battling cancer of the lymph

:34:16. > :34:20.glands. Here she is now, the European champion. This will be a

:34:21. > :34:29.popular one. What a story, recovering from a cancer and coming

:34:30. > :34:35.back a couple of years later. That was impressive, the way that she

:34:36. > :34:38.ran. She waited, she has got the experience, was seventh in the

:34:39. > :34:44.Olympic Games in London, knows her way around here. On the back

:34:45. > :34:49.straight she is in fourth place. Charlotta Fougberg leading into the

:34:50. > :34:50.water jump, she hardball is well, it was a very impressive water jump

:34:51. > :35:15.from the German. -- she hardball she takes the last hurdle like

:35:16. > :35:22.400-metre hurdle athlete. A great story and a gold medal for Germany.

:35:23. > :35:26.This final barriers year, she is a tall figure, the German, was running

:35:27. > :35:39.very quickly in 2009 before her health problems.

:35:40. > :35:48.It was a wonderful race to watch, four athletes battling it out from

:35:49. > :35:51.Germany, Sweden, Spain and Belarus. That is a very popular, hard earned

:35:52. > :36:09.victory for the German. Has not been a hugely successful

:36:10. > :36:14.championships for Germany, missing a few opportunities, but victorious

:36:15. > :36:32.this time. Mo Farah, moments away from coming

:36:33. > :36:39.out onto the track for the final of the 5000 metres, going for his

:36:40. > :36:43.second gold, what do you think the 10,000 metres run out would have

:36:44. > :36:48.done for him? It would have given him a lot of confidence and he will

:36:49. > :36:51.feel more relaxed. I was worried about how will he was coming into

:36:52. > :36:55.these championships, did not seem his normal self, the boat with

:36:56. > :37:01.illness seemed to have really knocked his confidence. He did not

:37:02. > :37:05.look vintage, he did not look perfect, but he still controlled the

:37:06. > :37:10.race and he should go into this race more confidence. A bit more arrested

:37:11. > :37:14.as well cause he probably trained quite hard for the 10,000 metres, he

:37:15. > :37:20.has had time to recover and should make quite an easy race of it. We

:37:21. > :37:26.are looking forward to that, Andy Vernon and Tom Farrell in that race

:37:27. > :37:32.as well. But as we can see another medal ceremony, Britain on top spot.

:37:33. > :37:55.COMMENTATOR: The bronze medal went to Poland.

:37:56. > :38:02.It was a brave run by the Russian quartet, might catch better than we

:38:03. > :38:20.might have expected for them. -- much better than. The man on the

:38:21. > :38:25.last leg against Martyn Rooney put in a really big performance, almost

:38:26. > :38:27.giving Martyn Rooney a bit of a shock but he had plenty to spare at

:38:28. > :38:45.the end. This British quartet, you have to

:38:46. > :38:50.think still chances for them to get better and improve although it was

:38:51. > :39:01.one of the best runs ever by a British team in this event, sixth on

:39:02. > :39:06.the all-time list. Matthew Hudson-Smith must have either a

:39:07. > :39:11.grown since the race, because that is not his jacket, surely? Or he has

:39:12. > :39:20.put it in the wash and it has shrunk. Conrad Williams leading off,

:39:21. > :39:23.Matthew Hudson-Smith second, Michael Bingham on the third and it meant

:39:24. > :39:32.Martyn Rooney had to do a big job on the last leg. A really good

:39:33. > :39:36.performance from all four men. That is a team, and with others in the

:39:37. > :39:41.squad of course that has every chance of going to waddle

:39:42. > :39:42.championships and Olympic games over the next couple of years and really

:39:43. > :40:48.contending this event. Well done to all four men and well

:40:49. > :40:52.done to Matthew Hudson-Smith, apparently he did forget his top,

:40:53. > :40:57.that one belongs to Eilidh Child, well done to her for helping him

:40:58. > :41:02.out, almost a good fit but not quite. But they are a good fit as a

:41:03. > :41:05.team, whether he forgets his jacket or not in future, he is a good

:41:06. > :41:15.addition to the team. Well done lads. Mo Farah going next in the

:41:16. > :41:20.5000 metres, I want to talk about Andy Vernon, the silver-medallist in

:41:21. > :41:25.the 10,000 metres, what confidence will that have given him going into

:41:26. > :41:32.this? It will have given him a lot of belief, yes, it is Mo Farah's

:41:33. > :41:36.race to lose that Andy Vernon has seen a chink in the armour, and it

:41:37. > :41:45.is the first time he is going into a race thinking how can I beat Mo?

:41:46. > :41:49.This should be fascinating, Steve Cram and Brendan Foster.

:41:50. > :42:06.COMMENTATOR: Andy Vernon and Tom Farrell also going for Great

:42:07. > :42:13.Britain. Mo Farah had to work so hard for the gold medal the other

:42:14. > :42:18.night. I think, again, it would be a surprise if he did not get another

:42:19. > :42:21.here. Some familiar names for him to run against but nobody he should be

:42:22. > :42:31.too scared of. But he still has to go out there and do it. Bashir Abdi

:42:32. > :42:35.returns. Jesus Espana, at the beginning of the international

:42:36. > :42:53.career of Mo Farah, Jesus Espana just beat him at the European

:42:54. > :42:58.Championships in 2006. The Dell Atari -- or buy Dell at Harry here

:42:59. > :43:06.to compete as well. -- Bouabdellah Tahri tarry. I know you were talking

:43:07. > :43:09.about Andy Vernon and the belief they would have got from the race

:43:10. > :43:16.the other night, but what about Mo Farah, what does he have to do here?

:43:17. > :43:31.I would rather see that at the finish than the ends. I think this

:43:32. > :43:36.race he has to be very careful. Hayle Ibrahimov is a good athlete,

:43:37. > :43:43.has raced Mo Farah on many occasions. I am looking forward to

:43:44. > :43:48.seeing this man, Tom Farrell, I am sure he will want to be part of the

:43:49. > :43:53.action. Bouabdellah Tahri, we thought he might give Mo Farah bit

:43:54. > :44:00.of a race in the 10,000 metres but he struggled. There is Tom Farrell.

:44:01. > :44:10.He will get better in the future, no doubt about that. Now the men's 5000

:44:11. > :44:22.metres under way. 12 and a half laps of the track, as usual. Will it be a

:44:23. > :44:29.case of Mo Farah winning as usual? One up to others we have not

:44:30. > :44:34.mentioned, Ali Kaya, the man from Turkey who gave Mo Farah a bit of a

:44:35. > :44:41.scare on the last lap but succumbed to Andy Vernon in the last few

:44:42. > :44:46.strides. And let's say happy birthday to Brenton Rowe in the

:44:47. > :45:15.yellow spikes with the white vest of Austria, his 27th birthday today.

:45:16. > :45:19.him happy birthday. Mo Farah is not at his very best because he has only

:45:20. > :45:27.ran two races this season and he has had an illness. Through distance

:45:28. > :45:36.runners would try to test him. They know that he is lethal in the last

:45:37. > :45:40.400 minutes -- 400 metres. He tends to run at the back early on to get

:45:41. > :45:45.rid of tension but he is today, a little closer to the front, moving

:45:46. > :46:00.gently towards the lead, letting them know that he is the euro. --

:46:01. > :46:05.that he is there He mesmerises them. Mo Farah comfortable. Long Way to go

:46:06. > :46:23.in this 5000 metres final. As that race continues, the long

:46:24. > :46:30.jump continues. Greg Rutherford is in the front. Christian Reif is

:46:31. > :46:41.chasing him down. He was quick on the runway but looks tight in his

:46:42. > :46:48.shoulders. Christian Reif, European champion from four years ago. He has

:46:49. > :46:53.a lifetime best just two centimetres less than Greg Rutherford. He looks

:46:54. > :46:57.like he is forcing it and his face is still raining. That is what you

:46:58. > :47:17.want to see from a British perspective. -- face is straining.

:47:18. > :47:25.It is a good women's high jump final developing. Maria Cucina is looking

:47:26. > :47:42.to extend her potential dominance in this event. The world champion from

:47:43. > :47:45.2011 is not here. It is good conditions for high jump and we wish

:47:46. > :47:54.we could have seen that in the men's event. She has got a clean sheet so

:47:55. > :47:59.far. We talked about Greg Rutherford responding well and he did that at

:48:00. > :48:08.the Commonwealth Games. When asked a question he managed 8.20. He has

:48:09. > :48:15.taken an early lead of 8.27 and is the man to chase. He can let loose

:48:16. > :48:20.here, they can take the handbrake off. He can charge at this and put

:48:21. > :48:27.everything he can into this in the third round. If he can get beyond

:48:28. > :48:38.8.30 which she has done, he might be able to put it beyond anyone else

:48:39. > :48:43.gasp. That looks bigger game. He has been sensationally precise in his

:48:44. > :48:53.run ups during the season. Once again hits the board and his -- the

:48:54. > :49:01.blue line is his leading mark. Great hang time. His eyes were going

:49:02. > :49:11.forward and his chest was out. It is no improvement but a good jump.

:49:12. > :49:15.While Greg Rutherford leads in the long jump, Mo Farah briefly went to

:49:16. > :49:29.the front in the 5000 metres and slowed things down a little bit. He

:49:30. > :49:42.jostled them around. Hayle Ibrahimov came to the front and then went back

:49:43. > :49:49.again. Arne Gabius has been on a few training runs with Mo Farah in the

:49:50. > :50:00.past. The pace is slow. Very slow and pedestrian. It is going the way

:50:01. > :50:05.of Mo Farah. They are helping him. A physical test and a fast run is not

:50:06. > :50:11.what Mo Farah is looking for today. Andy Vernon in the group. He fancies

:50:12. > :50:16.his chances now. He is thinking about Mo Farah which is a real step

:50:17. > :50:22.up in confidence. Thomas Farrell from Great Britain on the inside, he

:50:23. > :50:26.is running smoothly but so they should at this pace. They are all

:50:27. > :50:33.waiting for Mo Farah to do something. He will not do anything

:50:34. > :50:37.yet. He was nearly tripped up. He looked around and decided to run

:50:38. > :50:44.away. He has been stung into action but it did not last very long. I am

:50:45. > :50:48.-- I do not think he has got any intention of going hard from this

:50:49. > :50:53.fight. He will try to use his normal taxis, control that at the front.

:50:54. > :51:09.The field will allow him to do that because he is Mo Farah. -- normal

:51:10. > :51:13.tactics. He is not really pushing the pace on, he just prefers to be

:51:14. > :51:22.running freely. Thomas Farrell running into a punch. Andy Vernon

:51:23. > :51:47.watching things, nothing has really started yet. Mo Farah has not been

:51:48. > :51:54.filed away from the front. -- far away. Thomas Farrell has had to be

:51:55. > :52:01.patient and wait for this chance. He is not as quick as Mo Farah or Andy

:52:02. > :52:06.Vernon. He's managed a personal best this year and that is not bad coming

:52:07. > :52:13.into a championship. No personal bests during this race. Thomas

:52:14. > :52:17.Farrell just inside Andy Vernon. Silver-medallist in the 10,000

:52:18. > :52:24.metres. An athlete who really enjoyed that race. He ran extremely

:52:25. > :52:32.well and had a long way to go on the last lap. He did what he was

:52:33. > :52:46.required to do. Healy Ibrahim Orff is now leading. -- Hayle Ibrahimov.

:52:47. > :52:51.It is a pedestrian pace. If they gather together like they did in the

:52:52. > :52:58.1500 metres, it gets dangerous. You have to be careful. Once an athlete

:52:59. > :53:03.most of the front they just sit there and do nothing. I thought that

:53:04. > :53:14.the birthday boy would do something. Brenton Rowe or just moved up in the

:53:15. > :53:22.Austrian shirt. They are almost jogging at this pace. It is not even

:53:23. > :53:27.fast 10,000 metres pace. I tell you what, Mo Farah controls these races

:53:28. > :53:32.well. He knows what to do. He is almost pulling the strings like an

:53:33. > :53:39.orchestra conductor. He is brilliant when he is doing it. They are not

:53:40. > :53:44.having it their way. If you asked more of what he would want, he would

:53:45. > :53:49.say that he would want an easy opening and then bring it home heart

:53:50. > :54:00.in the closing stages. He has mesmerised this group of athletes.

:54:01. > :54:05.-- fhome hard. I felt that he had signed he was not at his best any

:54:06. > :54:16.time -- in the 10,000 metres but nobody is tackling him on it. Arne

:54:17. > :54:34.Gabius moves forward. This is the familiar face of Jesus Banna. --

:54:35. > :54:38.Jesus Espana. The German, Richard Ringer, who ran any Championships

:54:39. > :54:48.over 3000 metres has got a big finish. Do any of them have enough

:54:49. > :55:01.to test Mo Farah. It has been nothing to speak of. It is a slow

:55:02. > :55:14.wind-up. They come round with three laps to go and you wonder if anybody

:55:15. > :55:18.wants to put forward a test. Mark Butler has shown me that it was

:55:19. > :55:30.exactly ten minutes with one minute ago. The time will be over 40

:55:31. > :55:40.minutes. -- ten minutes with one minute to go.

:55:41. > :55:48.We all remember him winning two fabulous gold medals in London in

:55:49. > :55:52.the 5000 metres and the 10,000 metres. He came back last year and

:55:53. > :55:58.was world champion at 5000 metres and 10,000 metres. You can see that

:55:59. > :56:04.Mo Farah does not want anybody past them. Jesus Espana wants to get past

:56:05. > :56:09.him and he will not let anybody past them. He will have to pick it up. He

:56:10. > :56:17.could get caught from behind and tripped up. He does not want that.

:56:18. > :56:20.You can bet your bottom dollar that he does not want anybody between now

:56:21. > :56:28.and the finish line getting beyond him. They are tuning up on his

:56:29. > :56:32.shoulder. Andy Vernon is trying to protect his possession. He knows

:56:33. > :56:37.that Mo Farah likes to run hard for the last two laps. He knows that the

:56:38. > :56:46.closer he gets to Mo Farah be more chance he has got other medal. Hayle

:56:47. > :56:53.Ibrahimov on the inside. He might cut across. Mo Farah does not

:56:54. > :57:01.normally let that happen. Andy Vernon is right there. Thomas

:57:02. > :57:10.Farrell is farther back. Coming hard on the outside is Antonio Abadia

:57:11. > :57:23.from Spain. Mo Farah getting back to the front. Hayle Ibrahimov trying to

:57:24. > :57:27.hold him. Beer is the bell. Mo Farah goes for this. We have seen him do

:57:28. > :57:32.this on many occasion. He has one big championships in this manner. He

:57:33. > :57:36.has taken it so that he has taken it easy so far. He has got some company

:57:37. > :57:42.on the back straight with some running to do. He has to stretch

:57:43. > :57:48.again at the 200 metres point and then click around the bend. He has

:57:49. > :57:52.never been out raised by Hayle Ibrahimov. He has beaten him so many

:57:53. > :57:59.times indoors and outdoors. Mo Farah just checks behind him. Mo Farah is

:58:00. > :58:07.gritting his teeth and still looking behind. Andy Vernon is running into

:58:08. > :58:10.a bronze medal position. No doubt about the winner, Mo Farah is

:58:11. > :58:16.sticking away as expected to take his second gold medal of the

:58:17. > :58:20.European Championships. Hayle Ibrahimov with the silver and a

:58:21. > :58:31.great bronze medal for Andy Vernon. Bringing the medals home again. It

:58:32. > :58:42.was slow, slow, slow, quick and quicker. Mo Farah extended them from

:58:43. > :58:46.400 metres out. Nobody in this field can live with the sort of pace that

:58:47. > :58:53.he has with a slow running a race like that. He has got too much

:58:54. > :58:58.speed. Well done to Andy Vernon. Another medal for him. Silver and

:58:59. > :59:08.bronze. It is double gold again for Mo Farah. They really did hand this

:59:09. > :59:12.to Mo Farah. Andy Vernon ran a very good race. It was a good

:59:13. > :59:17.performance. Silver and bronze at the European Championships for Andy

:59:18. > :59:26.Vernon is a huge success. He has done well with the cross-country and

:59:27. > :59:30.also racing on the road. Mo Farah mesmerise them at the start. They

:59:31. > :59:35.were frightened to go past them. He only conceded the leader once. He

:59:36. > :59:44.was not happy. He wanted to stay in control. That was vintage Mo Farah.

:59:45. > :59:53.He is clearly not at his very best. We have seen him run quicker. He is

:59:54. > :00:04.getting better. He had a race on the last lap, he really was. He was

:00:05. > :00:08.tested in the back straight. Into the home straight with less than 500

:00:09. > :00:13.metres remaining. Andy Vernon is in the right place. Mo Farah at the

:00:14. > :00:25.bell. The bell triggers the acceleration. He has got to

:00:26. > :00:31.accelerate, has two run faster tonight than he did in the 10,000

:00:32. > :00:36.metres and he is doing that. Running himself into athletics yesterday,

:00:37. > :00:40.the most successful individual athlete in the history of the

:00:41. > :00:49.European Championships. No father winning his first gold medal. There

:00:50. > :00:57.are some great athletes that have one four but nobody has won five.

:00:58. > :01:10.Colin Jackson and Steve Backley won four gold medals. Mo Farah crosses

:01:11. > :01:15.the line with his fifth European Championship gold medal, a fantastic

:01:16. > :01:21.performance, fantastic last lap. He is not that is very, very best but

:01:22. > :01:25.great athletes can show up and be great competitors. He is a great

:01:26. > :01:32.competitor, a great athlete, the most successful individual in the

:01:33. > :01:38.history of these championships. And up fantastic performance by Andy

:01:39. > :01:42.Vernon in third place. We know he has not been well, struggling a

:01:43. > :01:48.little bit, but apart from being a great physical athlete he is a great

:01:49. > :01:52.competitor, deep down he wanted that one and he controlled that race like

:01:53. > :01:59.I have never seen anybody control a race for many years. Traffic

:02:00. > :02:10.performance -- terrific performance. Five European

:02:11. > :02:16.Championship golds. Just a little look behind to see Andy Vernon

:02:17. > :02:26.crossed the line for bronze. Hayle Ibrahimov gave him a chase but that

:02:27. > :02:27.is literally was, a chase. Tom Farrell not able to match the speed

:02:28. > :02:37.at the end, finished in 12. Congratulations to Mo Farah, he

:02:38. > :02:43.really is a great champion, a global star, he has done it again on the

:02:44. > :02:46.European stage and you can see him again next weekend, he will be in

:02:47. > :03:00.Birmingham for the diamond league meeting.

:03:01. > :03:10.And the great North run which Mo Farah will also be running. If you

:03:11. > :03:13.are training for that at the moment I am sure you have had great

:03:14. > :03:20.inspiration from what you have seen this week and somebody will be the

:03:21. > :03:28.1,000,000th finisher, the first time and mass participation half marathon

:03:29. > :03:36.event has had 1 million runners. We have equalled our very best, one

:03:37. > :03:41.more gold medal would take Great Britain into uncharted territory.

:03:42. > :03:45.Never got into double figures at a European athletics Championships. It

:03:46. > :03:54.is the best ever, it has gone past our greatest ever total. As we

:03:55. > :03:59.always do when Great Britain win medal we will ring the bell couple

:04:00. > :04:11.of times. Mo Farah adjoining himself on the board. -- joining. And Andy

:04:12. > :04:17.Vernon on the bronze, he has already been on the solver. It was not a

:04:18. > :04:20.quick race, you were so frustrated throughout that nobody was mixing it

:04:21. > :04:24.up and taking it on and doing what they must know they have got to do

:04:25. > :04:30.if they want to give a challenge to Mo Farah? It frustrated me a little

:04:31. > :04:34.bit as a race and a natural front runner but that is the way that

:04:35. > :04:41.suits Mo Farah and he controlled it perfectly. It is likely intimidates

:04:42. > :04:46.them also much that not everyone in that field believes they can compete

:04:47. > :04:51.on the last lap. They don't dare go past him and just take it to him and

:04:52. > :04:58.try and challenge him a little bit. It is really weird how much he puts

:04:59. > :05:04.others in his shadow and says I will control the race. He is a master of

:05:05. > :05:07.doing it, every time somebody tries to move outside the surge is a

:05:08. > :05:12.little bit, it is like nobody players. They are all queueing up to

:05:13. > :05:22.get on his shoulder and follow him, . It was only at this stage that

:05:23. > :05:27.Hayle Ibrahimov managed to get past him, but he cannot run as fast as

:05:28. > :05:32.him, as soon as he hears the bell he launches his finish and takes off.

:05:33. > :05:38.Andy Vernon done exactly what he needed to do, got himself into the

:05:39. > :05:50.position for a five times into the race because it was so slow and

:05:51. > :05:54.bunching up they get losing it. The I don't think at this stage she has

:05:55. > :06:02.the background or insurance that Mo has. The pace that they ran at for

:06:03. > :06:10.the first four kilometres at least of this race was a very easy job for

:06:11. > :06:16.Mo, and in that situation he will always be the quickest. He looked

:06:17. > :06:26.behind and saw Hayle Ibrahimov was his only competition and he just

:06:27. > :06:30.went further and further. I don't know if he is the fastest I have

:06:31. > :06:37.ever seen, I am sure the statisticians will be able to tell

:06:38. > :06:40.us that, but it is the ability to almost click his fingers and launch

:06:41. > :06:44.the finish and the others cannot go with it. But what he is the best I

:06:45. > :06:52.have ever seen is controlling the field. Two run of 1500 metre British

:06:53. > :06:56.record last summer, then the double at the World Championships, and this

:06:57. > :07:07.year another double gold, his range, it is pretty impressive. It

:07:08. > :07:11.is phenomenal. The interesting thing for me with his competitors is that

:07:12. > :07:14.if you look at all his races he does pretty much the same thing

:07:15. > :07:21.throughout, why not make that change, take it on and take it out

:07:22. > :07:29.harder than they have done with the bell to go? It is insanity, that is

:07:30. > :07:33.what he does best, it is fantastic to see him looking confident,

:07:34. > :07:37.smiling again, you already saw the difference between the 10,000 metres

:07:38. > :07:44.and this race now where he just seemed to be a bit more elevated.

:07:45. > :07:49.The demons are gone, he is back. He has the aura of a championship

:07:50. > :07:56.completely now. That intimidates his opponents. It does not last for

:07:57. > :07:59.long, that period where you can do that and boss everyone who tries to

:08:00. > :08:03.challenge you but when you are in that position you make the most of

:08:04. > :08:18.it. He is the man who has won five times here now. Double trouble they

:08:19. > :08:23.are. I know what that is like. He stood on the start line and he just

:08:24. > :08:34.looks more confident this time, you could see the little bit of doubt.

:09:35. > :09:41.feel like I missed out on Wednesday so I came in here thinking I would

:09:42. > :09:45.not let it happen again. I had a game plan to try and win gold, I

:09:46. > :09:52.thought I would rather get gold or nothing, that was my kind of game

:09:53. > :09:56.plan. It got to the last 800 metres and the wheels slowly started to

:19:53. > :20:05.It does not look like anybody is asking questions of Greg Rutherford.

:20:06. > :20:13.-- Christian Reif. 8.29, he does extend his lead and he is an gold

:20:22. > :20:32.position. Once again, another look at this. There are fractions that be

:20:33. > :20:35.saved. The cultures talked about challenging Jamaica in major

:20:36. > :20:43.championships. I think that is possible. There were some things

:20:44. > :20:46.that could be improved. The changeover from Harry

:20:47. > :20:50.Aikines-Aryeetey and Richard Kilty, they got very close to each other.

:20:51. > :20:59.The final change to Adam Gemili looked very good as his arm was at

:21:00. > :21:01.full stretch. The German has ran 10.07 in the 100 metres. He

:21:02. > :21:13.disappointed in the individual final. Look at his reaction looking

:21:14. > :21:19.at the time. They felt they could get close to the British record of

:21:20. > :21:36.57.73. The time was 37.93 but the main thing was a gold medal. That

:21:37. > :21:46.was a lovely throw into the headwind. Finland are ready to have

:21:47. > :21:55.a party at the positions stay as they are. Look at the flight of that

:21:56. > :22:02.javelin, it is going forward the entire way. It is beyond 85 metres.

:22:03. > :22:10.That has a long throw. The championship record is 89.72 by

:22:11. > :22:18.yours truly. 88.01. It is the European best role this season. --

:22:19. > :22:37.throw. Germany managed to get it together

:22:38. > :22:44.in the relay. Gold medal for Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

:22:45. > :22:51.Fabulous afternoon session in the Letzigrund Stadium. I can tell you

:22:52. > :22:56.that it is officially Great Britain 's best ever performance since these

:22:57. > :23:04.championships began in 1934. Let us bring the bill. Martyn Rooney and a

:23:05. > :23:19.Lee Child looking on suspiciously. We did it for you. -- Eilidh Child.

:23:20. > :23:22.It is a mark of how far the quartet have came and the fact that they

:23:23. > :23:28.look up and are disappointed not to get the British record. On the warm

:23:29. > :23:33.up track, I believe that is where the gain momentum. They will be

:23:34. > :23:41.telling each other that they can get the national record and it is within

:23:42. > :23:45.their capabilities. James did not disappoint on the first leg. He was

:23:46. > :23:50.dropped from the team previously and had a point to prove. That has

:23:51. > :24:01.helped Great Britain to top the table. We sit here with a view more

:24:02. > :24:05.medals to be distributed. Equal total on 21 with France but

:24:06. > :24:09.eclipsing them with gold medals. It must be fantastic to be part of the

:24:10. > :24:17.team performing like that. Greg Rutherford is now 14 senators clear

:24:18. > :24:22.his opposition. -- 14 centimetres. Jo Pavey set it up for us on the

:24:23. > :24:27.first night. It was incredible. It seemed to be medal after medal. I

:24:28. > :24:32.was on a little bit late and I wanted to be part of that. It was

:24:33. > :24:42.the spectre rounded team. Everybody wanted to play their part and get on

:24:43. > :24:49.the podium. -- it was the feeling around the team. It is not the

:24:50. > :24:55.conversation any more. They believe they can do this and they

:24:56. > :24:58.demonstrated it tonight. It was a fantastic lead by Harry

:24:59. > :25:02.Aikines-Aryeetey. You want somebody who can chase people down and keep

:25:03. > :25:10.did that brilliantly. Richard Kilty always holds his own on the brain.

:25:11. > :25:16.And once the baton is in Adams hands, you can sit back and relax.

:25:17. > :25:20.Now that this guy will do the business. Fantastic run from the

:25:21. > :25:30.quartet. It was a very beautiful thing to watch. As I really expect,

:25:31. > :25:33.that feeling to cross over the line with the union Jack around your

:25:34. > :25:41.neck, there cannot be a better feeling. I train with the Mac of

:25:42. > :25:46.them and to see them coming out with a medal is amazing. They probably

:25:47. > :25:54.know that they can go faster. -- I train with three of them. British

:25:55. > :25:59.and European champions, it is an incredible feeling and something you

:26:00. > :26:03.can build on. There are a lot of questions about who will get the

:26:04. > :26:08.medals, it is the four athletes who race today but if you have been part

:26:09. > :26:13.of the qualification process you will also get a medal but you do not

:26:14. > :26:23.collect it on top of the podium. Let us hear from another gold medal

:26:24. > :26:27.winner, Mo Farah. Congratulations, to shoot it with your family, the

:26:28. > :26:39.twins in your arms, it must be magical. -- to share. It is the

:26:40. > :26:41.first time that they have seen daddy race, they were too young

:26:42. > :26:48.previously. They are two years old now. You have done the double

:26:49. > :26:53.double, the most successful European athlete at the championships. It is

:26:54. > :26:58.important for me. It is great to make my country proud and all of the

:26:59. > :27:03.people supporting me over the years. It is great to win medals for my

:27:04. > :27:08.country. With the trouble in the build-up, and now the two medals, if

:27:09. > :27:13.he were told that beforehand after going to hospital, you would've

:27:14. > :27:19.thought otherwise. Training has been going well for a couple of weeks. It

:27:20. > :27:25.is given me confidence and next year I will get ready to race the guys. I

:27:26. > :27:29.mention this to Andy Vernon, Brendan said that you mesmerised the field,

:27:30. > :27:38.they look up to you. Do you get a sense of that? It is what it -- it

:27:39. > :27:42.is because of what I have achieved. They start to think that it is hard

:27:43. > :27:47.to beat Mo Farah and it is good to be in that position. You dictated

:27:48. > :27:53.the race as you wanted? I wanted to stay at the top -- at the front and

:27:54. > :27:58.stay out of trouble. I nearly got tripped a couple of times. How do

:27:59. > :28:02.you sum up this European experience? It is fantastic for the country. For

:28:03. > :28:07.all of the people supporting us. I want to thank them. It is a great

:28:08. > :28:12.championship for all of the people. We have got a young team,

:28:13. > :28:17.particularly with the relay, Adam Gemili is very impressive, we have

:28:18. > :28:21.done very well. Contract -- congratulations and well done to all

:28:22. > :28:28.of the team. It is great for Arsenal at the weekend destination Mark he

:28:29. > :28:32.had to get that in. There is Asha Philip is. She's not thinking about

:28:33. > :28:38.Arsenal or anything other than getting the battle ground for the

:28:39. > :28:43.100 metres. -- getting the baton around.

:28:44. > :29:07.It is coming to a head. There are only two men who can stop Greg

:29:08. > :29:15.Rutherford winning. One athlete from France and one from Greece. You have

:29:16. > :29:19.to expect them to jump far in this situation. Otherwise you will go

:29:20. > :29:22.flat. He will watch on but will be focusing heavily as they prepare for

:29:23. > :29:46.the final attempts. The long job is taking a moment to

:29:47. > :29:54.acknowledge the national anthem that is taking place. -- long jump. I

:29:55. > :29:57.think it is for the marathon. Greg Rutherford is in the lead by 14

:29:58. > :30:02.seconds and will have to wait a few more moments to take another job.

:30:03. > :30:05.That will be Great Britain 's 11th gold. Already in the lead by 14

:30:06. > :30:08.seconds and will have to wait a few more moments to take another job.

:30:09. > :30:18.That will be Great Britain 's 11th gold. Already into for 80 years.

:30:19. > :30:27.Asha Philip is out there. Win five. Inspired by their counterparts? They

:30:28. > :30:31.will have been, they know that all eyes will be on them, they know they

:30:32. > :30:38.have to improve, some changes have been made, but they have trained,

:30:39. > :30:43.they are drilled, confident. Let the legs do the talking from this point.

:30:44. > :30:48.It is a good quartet, I am looking forward to seeing it. There is Dafne

:30:49. > :30:53.Schippers who did the double in the 100 metres under 200 metres, but

:30:54. > :30:59.they do not the same strength in depth as the British. That is

:31:00. > :31:10.correct, the Dutch team have done well this year however. Back to

:31:11. > :31:18.Steve Backley. COMMENTATOR: 8.29 of Greg Rutherford to beat. That is

:31:19. > :31:22.big. That is a very good jump. He has a lifetime best of 8.24, he is a

:31:23. > :31:34.silver-medallist from four years ago. That is very close indeed.

:31:35. > :31:44.Jumping out of shot there. That is a very decent jump indeed for a man

:31:45. > :31:53.with the seasons best of of 8.19. 8.14, it is an improvement or a --

:31:54. > :31:57.for him but it will not change the medal standings. Read Rutherford is

:31:58. > :32:10.ready but there is one man to jump first, Louis Tsatoumas. He is

:32:11. > :32:16.capable. That was flat off the board, quick off the runway, that

:32:17. > :32:25.means that Greg Rutherford is now the European champion, a golden

:32:26. > :32:31.summer. Commonwealth gold. And now European gold for the man who won

:32:32. > :32:36.the Olympics two years ago. There is his biggest jump of the afternoon in

:32:37. > :32:44.celebration of another gold medal on a fantastic day for British

:32:45. > :32:51.athletics. There is the bronze and silver-medallists. Congratulations

:32:52. > :32:56.all around. It certainly went to form with Greg Rutherford taking

:32:57. > :33:09.gold. Christian Reif nowhere to be seen. JJ Jegede in ninth. Chris

:33:10. > :33:13.Tomlinson 11th. Anyone who doubted, anyone who questioned and said was

:33:14. > :33:28.2012 flash in the pan he has answered all of them this summer.

:33:29. > :33:34.The only man to have won a medal for Great Britain in the field at these

:33:35. > :33:40.championships. Well done Greg Rutherford. Four x 100 metres relay

:33:41. > :33:49.for women is the final track event of the Championships.

:33:50. > :33:56.Can we finish on a wheel hide? It is going to be tough, Sweden on the

:33:57. > :34:03.inside, they should not be a factor. Italy have a decent side. The French

:34:04. > :34:10.are a big danger. Great Britain would have two run a British record

:34:11. > :34:23.to equal their time. It is the same quartet that ran in the heats.

:34:24. > :34:33.Ukraine in between France and Great Britain. Asha Philip will be the

:34:34. > :34:47.lead-off. It almost reads like a list of boys names, Philip, Nelson,

:34:48. > :34:49.Henry and Williams. I wondered about the Netherlands, if they were

:34:50. > :34:56.completely flat out or if they have more to give. Dafne Schippers on the

:34:57. > :35:04.back straight, the 100 metre and 200 metres gold-medallist. Russia always

:35:05. > :35:11.there to be reckoned with. The outsiders, literally, will get a

:35:12. > :35:18.huge reception, the Swiss team have had a great championship. They have

:35:19. > :35:31.been setting records all season. Dafne Schippers waiting down the

:35:32. > :35:49.back straight. Bronze-medallist in the 100 metres

:35:50. > :35:55.individual. Jodie Williams, Roy and performance from higher in the 200.

:35:56. > :36:01.Desiree Henry will be there to bring it home. Can they beat France? The

:36:02. > :36:08.British record is one of the oldest on the books, the Moscow Olympics in

:36:09. > :36:13.1980. This team went close in qualification, hosted the third best

:36:14. > :36:15.time ever by a British quartet, can they go quicker? They might have to

:36:16. > :36:50.do. Asha Philip needs to get off to a

:36:51. > :36:55.good start here. It is a good handoff for Great Britain. The Dutch

:36:56. > :37:04.have gone. Great Britain against France at the moment. This is going

:37:05. > :37:16.to be close. Great Britain have got a great read. -- lead. Henry has got

:37:17. > :37:24.it. France running them down, but Desiree Henry has got it. Great

:37:25. > :37:42.Britain get the gold. A new British record. At last. 1980. Asha Philip,

:37:43. > :37:54.Ashleigh Nelson, Jody Williams and Desiree Henry. Simply superb again

:37:55. > :38:04.from the British quartet. Great bat and changing. -- bat on changing.

:38:05. > :38:08.What a performance. The French were good, maybe not quite as good as

:38:09. > :38:14.they where in the heats, but that was quicker from the British women.

:38:15. > :38:21.And national record for them. The guys out celebrating as well. 42.2

:38:22. > :38:24.for the official time. What a way to round off what has been a

:38:25. > :38:30.scintillating European Championships for the British team. One of its

:38:31. > :38:37.major features has been this new crop of young female sprinters that

:38:38. > :38:46.Britain has got. Gina Asher-Smith who sadly limped out the other day.

:38:47. > :38:53.So much talent. Four of them producing a new British record. You

:38:54. > :39:00.talk about the names that they are running against, names from 30 years

:39:01. > :39:04.ago that times were set, it was good, as you say still room for

:39:05. > :39:10.improvement. You had the Dutch athlete outside Asha Philip year.

:39:11. > :39:14.Watch this. I don't think they were going to content, but Dafne

:39:15. > :39:17.Schippers was the individual star at these championships, but I don't

:39:18. > :39:22.think they were going to challenge France or Great Britain. That was

:39:23. > :39:28.OK, I could change, nervous for a minute because there was a half

:39:29. > :39:43.fumble. But Myriam Soumare ran so well. Henry with enough of a lead.

:39:44. > :39:48.Did not stretch it. There was more to come, that is the exciting thing.

:39:49. > :39:51.Yes they will be running against Jamaica and America come the Wattle

:39:52. > :39:57.Championships and the Olympics but there is so much they can do as a

:39:58. > :40:03.group and individually -- the World Championships. We will speak to the

:40:04. > :40:10.women in a short while but let's reflect on a great performance from

:40:11. > :40:18.the men team. First of all, James, tremendous performance having missed

:40:19. > :40:23.out by a draw in the 200, got your frustrations out and got the gold

:40:24. > :40:29.medal? Before I talk about our victory I want to bank the rest of

:40:30. > :40:32.the team, the support staff, the medical team and the national

:40:33. > :40:35.lottery, if it was not for the general public buying the tickets we

:40:36. > :40:42.would not be in this position now. We smashed it. We wanted a British

:40:43. > :40:46.record but it didn't come but we will get it in future. Could not be

:40:47. > :40:53.happier, the girls smashing the British record. Huge shout out to

:40:54. > :40:58.our relay coach. We are finally showing our potential. Our fantastic

:40:59. > :41:04.effort, and to share it with the women, it must be fantastic, the

:41:05. > :41:07.whole team, yours was director to 10th gold medal in the European

:41:08. > :41:13.Championships and we have added that with Greg Rutherford and the women.

:41:14. > :41:16.This is a new generation. The female sprints have got their act together,

:41:17. > :41:21.you might see different teams come and go, but we know what those girls

:41:22. > :41:26.have been through, they are young, I don't think one of them is over 25.

:41:27. > :41:31.Me and James are the old ones here. We have to thank so many people, you

:41:32. > :41:33.are seeing a whole group of sprinters coming together and

:41:34. > :41:39.ultimately performing. We have done it individually, now it is about

:41:40. > :41:43.enjoying our success and moving forward, knowing what we are capable

:41:44. > :41:50.of doing. It has been a golden year, lots of medals all round. Called

:41:51. > :41:57.upon gold since then for you? It has been amazing, I have to thank these

:41:58. > :42:04.guys, we have to thank the coach, we have had no problems with the

:42:05. > :42:08.relays. British record, two gold medals, so much enthusiasm and

:42:09. > :42:14.confidence in the team. It is amazing. Dominating the really every

:42:15. > :42:22.time go out there. Blowing away the past. I was speaking to guys from

:42:23. > :42:26.French TV who were talking about a dropped bat and in the past and I

:42:27. > :42:31.think that was wishful thinking. These guys did all the work, I had

:42:32. > :42:39.nothing to do, I just brought it home. I thank these guys, what can I

:42:40. > :42:43.say, another gold medal at European Championships, hopefully we can use

:42:44. > :42:49.this as a platform for the world is to compete with Jamaica and America.

:42:50. > :42:56.Let's hope so, congratulations. Thank you everyone at home so much,

:42:57. > :43:10.keep supporting us. They did good. But a British records for the women.

:43:11. > :43:21.1980, they were great athletes. You wonder how much longer, this was for

:43:22. > :43:25.a good teamwork. Ashleigh Nelson ran so well in the hundred metre final,

:43:26. > :43:30.decent change, you can see in the background, Dafne Schippers just

:43:31. > :43:34.missing it, the Dutch were going for a stretch and they probably had to

:43:35. > :43:38.do that. I am not sure what happened to the Swiss team either, they are

:43:39. > :43:46.doing a lap of consolation at the moment. I think the race was won

:43:47. > :43:51.here, because at this changeover we had a slight advantage. That is a

:43:52. > :43:59.good change, Jodie Williams, ran a very good bend. Jodie Williams

:44:00. > :44:06.needed to stay strong and give Desiree Henry, the 18-year-old, had

:44:07. > :44:09.to give her as much of a lead as possible because she was going to

:44:10. > :44:15.come under pressure, we knew how good France where, gets the Batten

:44:16. > :44:27.in her hand and looked at her goal. France trying to chase down, doing

:44:28. > :44:33.her best, a great last leg, a record-breaking performance. Look at

:44:34. > :44:37.the determination here, she knows they have handed it to her, they

:44:38. > :44:40.have given her the responsibility and even though she is still a

:44:41. > :44:53.teenager she brings it home in style.

:44:54. > :45:03.the squad. It is not about one or two stars, it is about being strong

:45:04. > :45:08.to about six or seven. The athletes push each other towards better

:45:09. > :45:15.things. Adam Gemili talked about trying to take on the Americans and

:45:16. > :45:23.Jamaicans, the ladies could as well but they may have to find a bit

:45:24. > :45:27.more. What a way to finish, J. Great Britain and Northern Ireland with

:45:28. > :45:33.another gold medal. The British record and a European leading time.

:45:34. > :45:37.France had to settle for silver and Russia got a bronze just ahead of

:45:38. > :45:47.Italy. The Netherlands and Switzerland did not finish.

:45:48. > :45:57.What an incredible 15 minutes. Coming into the prime, this crop of

:45:58. > :46:01.British female sprinters. We have talked about all some of this rich

:46:02. > :46:06.crop coming through and it is fabulous to see. They are reaping

:46:07. > :46:13.the rewards. Mo Farah came here and we did not see that bouncing,

:46:14. > :46:17.buoyant athlete ahead of his 10,000 metres. He looked worried. Nothing

:46:18. > :46:25.like to gold medals to settle yourself. Mo Farah is back and he --

:46:26. > :46:30.it is great to see. He is such an icon and such a force to be reckoned

:46:31. > :46:34.with in distance running. That is where he belongs. Top of the podium

:46:35. > :46:43.for the first time on the European Championships. Andy Vernon on the

:46:44. > :46:48.podium for the second time. Steve Cram will take you through the medal

:46:49. > :47:05.ceremony. Medals everywhere, medals galore. Rich pickings for Mo Farah

:47:06. > :47:09.and anti-fat -- for Mo Farah. Looking back into the record books

:47:10. > :47:18.to see when they won two medals in the same event, it was in 1986 when

:47:19. > :47:34.we got gold and bronze. The javelin is catching the eye of Andy Vernon,

:47:35. > :47:40.he is checking it is going past him. That was Antti Ruuskanen that took

:47:41. > :47:45.the gold medal in the javelin. That is good as you can get for

:47:46. > :48:13.celebration from Finland. They are not exuberant. Business as usual,

:48:14. > :48:18.Finland at winning the javelin. The second medal of the championships

:48:19. > :48:23.for Andy Vernon. He has acquitted himself so well after the difficult

:48:24. > :48:30.period. He ran well at the beginning of the season. He had a few

:48:31. > :48:33.problems. He got himself back at the Commonwealth Games and he has been

:48:34. > :48:45.on top at the European Championships. It is not the first

:48:46. > :48:49.time that he has finished behind Mo Farah and not the first time he has

:48:50. > :49:00.been on the rostrum behind Mo Farah. He gave him a test on the last lap

:49:01. > :49:15.and stayed with him for 200 metres, Hayle Ibrahimov. A very gracious

:49:16. > :49:21.silver-medallist. His fifth gold medal. He jumps onto the rostrum as

:49:22. > :49:31.I can see Greg Rutherford standing about ten metres away from him on

:49:32. > :49:38.the track. Two gold medals. Reward for a summer, and even for a year, I

:49:39. > :49:39.guess, which has had trials and tribulations for him. He is back

:49:40. > :49:56.where he belongs. -- to share. ANTHEM: God Save The

:49:57. > :50:46.Queen. Mo Farah discovered there user top

:50:47. > :50:57.spot in the podium in 2010 but he has loved it so much she has visited

:50:58. > :51:00.the top spot maintains. Five times in the European Championships. He is

:51:01. > :51:08.absolutely fantastic. It is a pleasure to have him in an event

:51:09. > :51:09.such as middle distance running and long-distance running. Well done. We

:51:10. > :51:21.love you. There is understandable delight from

:51:22. > :51:27.the women here after that performance. Not only the gold medal

:51:28. > :51:31.but the British record that has been in existence since 1980. We have

:51:32. > :51:35.talked about it for so long and we have wanted it so badly. The

:51:36. > :51:43.emotions that I have got for these girls... I am so proud of them. We

:51:44. > :51:47.have worked so hard for that. We battled for this and we deserve it.

:51:48. > :51:51.Every moment of it. The emotion deserves to pour out of you. It was

:51:52. > :51:57.emotional winning an individual medal but now a gold medal, an

:51:58. > :52:03.amazing Championships for you. It has been amazing. We have worked

:52:04. > :52:15.very well as a team. There are four black girls who are not here so a

:52:16. > :52:22.big thank you to them. Without them we -- -- four girls.

:52:23. > :52:37.We have been looking for this national record. Everybody has been

:52:38. > :52:45.talking about sprinting in Great Britain. It is came on in the last

:52:46. > :52:53.year. Four x 104 x 400, we have all done so well. It is good to see the

:52:54. > :52:58.hard work paid off and we are medals. This is your first senior

:52:59. > :53:06.Championships, can you put it into words? I honestly cannot. I have run

:53:07. > :53:10.the really a few times this year. I'm just so proud to be here and I

:53:11. > :53:15.want to thank my coach for giving me this opportunity to go on to the

:53:16. > :53:19.last leg and I am so glad that I was able to bring it home and we have

:53:20. > :53:32.got the national record. I am so happy.

:53:33. > :53:50.Some results just to tidy up for you.

:53:51. > :54:06.And the brilliant high jump competition. Ruth Beitia managed to

:54:07. > :54:19.defend her championship for the first time ever. It has just about

:54:20. > :54:24.been the most perfect afternoon. This is what the table looks like. A

:54:25. > :54:29.total of 23 medals, topping the table. The best ever performance.

:54:30. > :54:36.Five gold medals today. National record in the four x 100 metres for

:54:37. > :54:40.the women. The most valiant afternoon of athletics. We are going

:54:41. > :54:48.to ring the bell a couple more times. -- the most brilliant.

:54:49. > :54:59.That'll be the last time that we do it. I have loved it. That is the

:55:00. > :55:03.last time. This is officially the end of the athletics. The beginning

:55:04. > :55:08.of so many fantastic careers that are being launched here. Young

:55:09. > :55:11.athletes coming through at the first major championships. Great

:55:12. > :55:16.experience coming to this, it must be wonderful to see them realise

:55:17. > :55:20.their potential. So many of them have stepped up their game. They are

:55:21. > :55:25.not intimidated by coming to these championships. It is great for the

:55:26. > :55:31.future and looking towards the World Championships and the Olympics in

:55:32. > :55:37.Rio de Janeiro. It was incredible. Everybody keeps saying the name of

:55:38. > :55:42.my coach. He has done very well. To see him get the championship

:55:43. > :55:45.records. Reduce records. They are very important to him. Coming here

:55:46. > :55:54.as a world class -- world-class coach, proving that he is a world

:55:55. > :55:58.class coach. It is in plastic for British athletics that these young

:55:59. > :56:10.kids are coming into the team and winning medals. -- it is fantastic.

:56:11. > :56:15.You look at Mo Farah and Jessica Ennis, the mentality has changed for

:56:16. > :56:19.us. Greg Rutherford has added two Commonwealth gold and Olympic gold.

:56:20. > :56:27.He was so disappointed with his season last year and was not able to

:56:28. > :56:30.capitalise on it. He pulled out at the last minute at the Glasgow

:56:31. > :56:40.diamond lead because he needed to concentrate. He has tamed it

:56:41. > :56:43.perfectly. -- Diamond league. It is about medals for him. He has now

:56:44. > :56:49.added the European title to his Olympic and Commonwealth titles.

:56:50. > :56:56.Thank you very much for joining us. We will see you in bombing. We will

:56:57. > :57:05.be there. -- we will see you in Birmingham. Will there be a party

:57:06. > :57:12.tonight? Yes but because we are all racing we cannot enjoy it. I have

:57:13. > :57:20.got an early fight night. -- an early flight. I have got a bottle of

:57:21. > :57:23.red wine in my room. The performance director Neil Black will be

:57:24. > :57:26.delighted to hear that the celebrations are tempered.

:57:27. > :57:35.I have to say, it is a great delight to talk to you in these

:57:36. > :57:42.circumstances. Britain tops the medal table with a record number of

:57:43. > :57:47.medals. Can you sum it up? We are chuffed to bits. We came here

:57:48. > :57:49.wanting to be competitive. We have converted in so many circumstances

:57:50. > :57:56.where people had genuine medal chances. Commitment to performance,

:57:57. > :58:02.the understanding about what it is about and the confidence that people

:58:03. > :58:08.are bringing. The huge support from coaches working with athletes, it is

:58:09. > :58:11.unbelievable. The relay team talked about the confidence that well

:58:12. > :58:25.instilled in them. The days of. Baton has gone. -- the days of the

:58:26. > :58:28.dropped baton. That is what they have demonstrated today. Tell me

:58:29. > :58:35.about the delight in the youth coming through. The people who have

:58:36. > :58:41.lived up to this. It is difficult for me to pick out names. You are

:58:42. > :58:45.absolutely right. The example that we can give is that we think it is

:58:46. > :58:49.amazing if we have a devil that goes under 23 seconds and now we have got

:58:50. > :58:58.a clutch of them. -- when we have a lady. We are going global from here

:58:59. > :59:05.onwards. The next three years are the most important. These guys know

:59:06. > :59:08.how to do it. How important is it that the Commonwealth Games and the

:59:09. > :59:11.Europeans have been the launching pad with the World Championships

:59:12. > :59:19.next year and the Olympics beyond that. It is critical in the process

:59:20. > :59:23.through to Rio de Janeiro. And then on to London in 2017. They have

:59:24. > :59:31.grabbed it and we are all excited and chuffed to bits. Jo Pavey, one

:59:32. > :59:34.of the oldest members of the team, what a fantastic performance. How

:59:35. > :59:40.crucial is to have somebody like that around a team setting an

:59:41. > :59:45.example. She has a complete example. She is so open, honest and real. We

:59:46. > :59:52.will have grasped onto that. She is brilliant in giving her experience

:59:53. > :59:59.back to younger athletes. And to see Martyn Rooney recognising his

:00:00. > :00:02.potential etc. Jo Pavey shows the grit and determination, and

:00:03. > :00:09.confidence to be able to go out and produce the goods. Many highlights,

:00:10. > :00:14.we cannot pick one out. Let us celebrate the entire team. I would

:00:15. > :00:16.not want to pick one out. It is absolutely brilliant.

:00:17. > :00:24.Congratulations. Thank you very much. Performance director Neil

:00:25. > :00:28.Black pudding into context the achievements from this British team.

:00:29. > :00:37.It deals from the outside like they have fed off of each other. It has

:00:38. > :00:40.bled into the next performance. Success breeds success but they have

:00:41. > :00:45.been really well supported, they prepared really well for this,

:00:46. > :00:48.coming off the back of the Commonwealth Games and showing they

:00:49. > :00:53.can do back-to-back championships and perform well. You heard from

:00:54. > :00:58.Andy Vernon in the studio the last time that there are no excuses, they

:00:59. > :01:02.have got the facilities, they have got the medical back-up, and they

:01:03. > :01:07.have got the belief. That together creates a formidable opportunity to

:01:08. > :01:11.these guys to take what they have learned at these championships and

:01:12. > :01:18.move on. Lowe it is the belief that, they absolutely believe they are

:01:19. > :01:23.justified in being there. When you have that kind of confidence about

:01:24. > :01:29.you it is wonderful. We talked about an individual with Mo Farah and what

:01:30. > :01:32.it can do to your competitors, make the belief dissipate, and now the

:01:33. > :01:36.whole team is starting to believe that across a range of events. We

:01:37. > :01:41.might go into more depth soon, but the field there, Greg Rutherford

:01:42. > :01:44.being the only gold medal lost in the field, various people not here

:01:45. > :01:50.because of injury, so there is more to come. A lot of injuries but also

:01:51. > :01:54.a lot of gaps where I think sometimes the talent is not good

:01:55. > :01:58.enough and they have to look at that. I think the track has been

:01:59. > :02:05.outstanding, from sprints all the way through to the distances. I

:02:06. > :02:10.think it bodes well for the future. A very happy crop of sprinters, not

:02:11. > :02:14.as happy as they might have been because I think they wanted the

:02:15. > :02:18.British record as well and were just outside of that. Could not quite

:02:19. > :02:28.match their female counterparts. They could not, but they know it is

:02:29. > :02:34.there. I believe this quartet, we have got a great team. It is great

:02:35. > :02:38.to see them getting the rewards. Why is James Dasaolu not there at the

:02:39. > :02:44.moment? Is it because he has not been training as much? It is not

:02:45. > :02:49.unusual to some things get the best sprinters competing in the relay,

:02:50. > :02:53.Allan Wells never ran the four x 100 metres for Great Britain and he was

:02:54. > :03:00.the Olympic champion. James Dasaolu has been injured, and when you are

:03:01. > :03:02.injured, you spend more of your time spending hitting yourself better

:03:03. > :03:10.rather than trying to fit into a team. One of only five British

:03:11. > :03:14.athletes to go under ten seconds, you would expect that if you wanted

:03:15. > :03:21.to and this bit next year and would like to train more with them there

:03:22. > :03:27.would be a place? Yes, CJ can also fit into this group very nicely as

:03:28. > :03:36.well. I want to see the best for guys and see what they can do. --

:03:37. > :03:39.four guys. But it is about bat on changes as well, as we saw with the

:03:40. > :03:45.Dutch and Swiss women, you have to make it happen. Andrew Cotter is

:03:46. > :03:54.very well drilled, let him take the preceding away. COMMENTATOR: I will

:03:55. > :04:06.try not to drop the Batten here. France in third place, what they

:04:07. > :04:08.might have done. It was the hard work of Christophe Lemaitre that got

:04:09. > :04:29.them into that position. Talking about the British strength

:04:30. > :04:35.in depth, they know there is such strength in depth, there is no one

:04:36. > :04:40.absolutely outstanding athlete, some very, very, very good athletes in

:04:41. > :04:44.there, but can they get close to the Jamaicans and Americans at their

:04:45. > :04:51.very best? But in the relays they can challenge anyone in the world at

:04:52. > :05:02.the moment. Has been a good championship for France as well.

:05:03. > :05:12.Talking about squads which are strong and work as a good unit, the

:05:13. > :05:15.Germans certainly did that here. They were disappointed in the

:05:16. > :05:26.individual 100 metres, did not deliver at all.

:05:27. > :05:31.But they pushed Great Britain and Northern Ireland very hard indeed in

:05:32. > :05:52.the final. Some nice foliage. Now it is

:05:53. > :05:56.Britain's turn, hunting down not just the gold medal, desperate to

:05:57. > :06:02.get the British record, just short by a couple of tenths of a second.

:06:03. > :06:14.But the gold medal is more than compensation. Gold-medallists in the

:06:15. > :06:24.European Championships, and a mention for Danny Tolbert who ran in

:06:25. > :06:30.the heats. And James Dasaolu and CJ, did not get onto the team despite

:06:31. > :06:35.going below ten seconds this season, but there is real strength and

:06:36. > :06:42.quality throughout. To add to his bronze medal in the individual, a

:06:43. > :06:50.kiss for the gold medal for Harry Aikines-Aryeetey. Indoor champion

:06:51. > :07:01.Richard Kilty. And a second gold for Adam Gemili. Certainly Adam Gemili

:07:02. > :07:09.is one who really could challenge the best in the world. I wonder if

:07:10. > :07:32.200 metres is his future? Another gold medal. Enjoy it one more time.

:07:33. > :08:21.Happy and glorious just about sums up that quartet. Big international

:08:22. > :08:31.challenges to come but these are golden times for British Bunting. --

:08:32. > :08:37.sprinting. STUDIO: Fabulous success for Great Britain 's men's four x

:08:38. > :08:41.100 m relay squad. It is a squad of depth and talent which we will

:08:42. > :08:45.hopefully see a lot more of in the next few years at the major

:08:46. > :08:51.championships. But let's go back to the women's four x 100, the Swiss

:08:52. > :09:00.quartet are on all the posters here, they were hoping for so much from

:09:01. > :09:07.them, but look at this. Just out of the blocks, four steps out, the

:09:08. > :09:15.pressure she must have felt under. Just not focusing in the way she has

:09:16. > :09:23.done every race here so far. I speechless am, the poor devil must

:09:24. > :09:28.be beside herself, -- devil. When you are driving out of the blocks

:09:29. > :09:33.sometimes you can hit your own like, I have seen that happen before. It

:09:34. > :09:39.meant so much to these girls, they are performed so well. They are on

:09:40. > :09:42.posters all over the place, they are the girls that had been looking to

:09:43. > :09:50.get some kind of medal. Deep consolations to them, commiserations

:09:51. > :09:53.rather. A pretty awful experience. Another person with great

:09:54. > :10:02.expectation and great pressure on him to perform but has done so every

:10:03. > :10:29.single day is Kone, the mascot. -- Cooly, the mascot.

:10:30. > :10:41.LAUGHTER I want one. I want a life sized one.

:10:42. > :10:45.I think the steeplechase might have been my favourite moment, but we

:10:46. > :10:55.decided: Needed another challenge in his life. -- we decided Colin

:10:56. > :11:05.Jackson needed. This is when Colin met Cooly. All week I have been

:11:06. > :11:14.watching this cow show off, it is about time it was taught a lesson.

:11:15. > :11:25.To date is judgement day. For one of us. He is going down. This is

:11:26. > :11:31.utterly ridiculous. How dear C challenge me. Does he know where the

:11:32. > :11:38.start line is, because this is where he is going to get waxed. My

:11:39. > :11:41.opponent, all smiles now, trying to make me feel good. Trying to butter

:11:42. > :12:32.me up. Victory is mine. Who am I to milk

:12:33. > :12:47.it? STUDIO: Brilliant, the winner with pardons galore -- jokes galore.

:12:48. > :12:52.It was a bit cheesy wasn't it? Excellent work, I think you have

:12:53. > :12:57.really put him in his place. It was brilliant, it was all about fun, he

:12:58. > :13:03.has so much energy. For us to even get that was pretty special. Very

:13:04. > :13:05.much in demand, as is Greg Rutherford who has just won his

:13:06. > :13:25.third gold at a major championship. congratulations. It is a real sense

:13:26. > :13:33.of relief. I could see how well the British team was doing. To do that,

:13:34. > :13:38.I am over the moon. To do 27 and 29 back to back, I am happy. I could

:13:39. > :13:44.feel it tight in my hamstring and I did not want to risk it. Fortunately

:13:45. > :13:50.I can add another title. I am absolutely over the moon. We are

:13:51. > :14:01.losing Andy Turner after this and he is the closest friend on my team. He

:14:02. > :14:09.was always a big help to me to help relax my nerves. It is a thin

:14:10. > :14:15.plastic -- fantastic work from Jonas this year. He has managed to get me

:14:16. > :14:21.to go fast. I will become a dad and a couple of months time. It is

:14:22. > :14:26.turning into a big year. I hope Susie is OK at home and is not in

:14:27. > :14:31.premature labour. If so I will be getting a plane tonight. It is great

:14:32. > :14:37.to come back after such a torrid time last year. It is something to

:14:38. > :14:41.build on. It is great to win another couple of titles and I have to go

:14:42. > :14:46.out and do it on the world stage again. Commonwealth champion,

:14:47. > :14:53.European champion, Olympic champion, just one more to complete the set. I

:14:54. > :14:59.am quite pleased about that. Everybody tries as absolutely hard

:15:00. > :15:07.as they can out there. I'm lucky that things have been coming

:15:08. > :15:09.together for me this year. The physiotherapist has been doing

:15:10. > :15:16.tireless work to make sure that I stay healthy. These titles are won

:15:17. > :15:20.by multiple people getting behind you and keeping you on the straight

:15:21. > :15:24.and narrow. I thank them for that and hopefully I can have a few more

:15:25. > :15:30.years. World Championships next year and then Brazil. Hopefully I can

:15:31. > :15:36.complete the set and retain my world title, I might have to hang up my

:15:37. > :15:49.spikes. Stick with the long jump for now. Congratulations once again. The

:15:50. > :15:56.winter sport aspirations can be put on ice. He has had a few big jumps

:15:57. > :16:00.to go for. You have them talk about the World Championships, to put that

:16:01. > :16:06.into context, not many have got that collection. Sally Gunnell did it.

:16:07. > :16:14.Jonathan Edwards and Linford Christie. That is about it. Let's

:16:15. > :16:17.look at his technique. He has been so consistent on the border. That is

:16:18. > :16:23.one thing you find with Greg. He has so consistent on the border. That is

:16:24. > :16:33.got great verve on the runway. Seldom does he fell out. -- foul

:16:34. > :16:37.out. The athletes have to make quick adjustments because this track is so

:16:38. > :16:42.quick. He was jumping into a headwind today but great accuracy

:16:43. > :16:48.and great performance. Another gold medal. There was great sportsmanship

:16:49. > :16:52.from Chris Tomlinson who was congratulating him after his first

:16:53. > :16:57.big jump. That is good to see because there has been that bit of

:16:58. > :17:00.needle earlier in the season when he got the British record. It is good

:17:01. > :17:03.needle earlier in the season when he to see that is nothing to be

:17:04. > :17:08.bothered about. You just want them to let bygones be -- bygones be

:17:09. > :17:14.bygones and let the competition do the talking. There is Greg coming

:17:15. > :17:22.out to take his gold. Five gold medals today. That is one of the

:17:23. > :17:27.great days for British athletics. It is brilliant. To finish on top of

:17:28. > :17:32.the medals table in Europe is a big thing for Great Britain. Everything

:17:33. > :17:36.is looking really good. There is a legend presenting the medals as

:17:37. > :17:46.well. It is good to see a Welshman Neil, Colin Jackson? He will be very

:17:47. > :17:51.happy that you called him a legend. He will give the gold medal to Greg

:17:52. > :17:54.Rutherford and just a moment. Let us hand you over to a commentator that

:17:55. > :17:57.has got some European gold medals, four, Steve Backley?

:17:58. > :18:25.Great to see him congratulating the bronze-medallist. Kafetien Gomis. He

:18:26. > :18:37.was Olympic champion. It is fitting that in a second he congratulate

:18:38. > :18:41.Greg Rutherford. 8.15 metres in his first jump. He set the bar and the

:18:42. > :18:49.only one to pop -- put up any kind of fight. Greg Rutherford said this

:18:50. > :19:04.would be harder than the Commonwealth Games. He made it look

:19:05. > :19:08.easy. We started to believe in him eight years ago when he won silver.

:19:09. > :19:20.It was six years later when he took Olympic gold. She is getting used to

:19:21. > :19:26.the ceremonies. -- he is getting used.

:19:27. > :20:27.With all of the British success, it is amazing to think that Greg is the

:20:28. > :20:37.only individual athlete from Britain to win, wealth and European gold. It

:20:38. > :20:39.started with a British record and now his second gold medal of the

:20:40. > :20:50.summer. Fantastic stuff. Well done. Greg Rutherford who will have a trio

:20:51. > :21:00.of success is because his first baby is due. It is a golden year for him.

:21:01. > :21:02.He looked absolutely thrilled with his success. He seems to be a

:21:03. > :21:11.different athlete this year from last year. It was not clicking for

:21:12. > :21:15.him last year and he was despondent with his personal performances. He

:21:16. > :21:18.seemed to be disenchanted. It is the adjustment that you have to go

:21:19. > :21:24.through after you have been an Olympic champion. Everything

:21:25. > :21:29.changes. Your personal life, your sponsorship commitments. How you

:21:30. > :21:35.view yourself. To get back into training and have a healthy body,

:21:36. > :21:42.get into competitions, can be tough. He has bounced back and dealt with

:21:43. > :21:48.it well. 8.51 really set him up. To have a healthy body is great. He

:21:49. > :21:53.thanked his coach, Jonas, who has made a big difference to what he has

:21:54. > :22:00.experienced. His speed is better and his confidence is intact. There was

:22:01. > :22:04.a sigh of relief when he came off the podium. That must feel what it

:22:05. > :22:11.is like to get this summer done. He has nailed it this summer. It is

:22:12. > :22:14.record and two championships. You cannot ask for anything more from

:22:15. > :22:21.Greg Rutherford. That is why he has got a smile on his face. He will be

:22:22. > :22:27.looking forward to the World Championships and why not can take

:22:28. > :22:35.the gold medal? The jump today has to give him confidence. If he kneels

:22:36. > :22:39.8.45 then he is in business. Nobody has challenged him. Let us take a

:22:40. > :22:44.quick reminder of how great this Championships has been for Great

:22:45. > :22:54.Britain. 12 golds in total. They started the day on seven with France

:22:55. > :23:00.top of the table. That is some achievement. Haps the achievement of

:23:01. > :23:05.the day with the British record that has stood since 1984, the relay

:23:06. > :23:13.quartet who have blasted away that record. They won the first gold in

:23:14. > :23:15.this event for Britain since 1950. Steve Cram will talk us through the

:23:16. > :23:26.ceremony. Russia take the bronze medal. It is

:23:27. > :23:31.worth reflecting on this big summer of British athletics. The

:23:32. > :23:35.Commonwealth Games and into these European Championships. Greg

:23:36. > :23:47.Rutherford the one man to win that gold in both. -- to win gold in

:23:48. > :23:53.both. It medal winners in the Commonwealth Games went on to win

:23:54. > :24:06.medals in these championships. Well done to them. And also to the relay

:24:07. > :24:20.teams. The French team come on to the rostrum. They ran well but not

:24:21. > :24:25.as well as the British quartet. The British quartet, Anyika Onuora

:24:26. > :24:35.also-ran in the heats. She will get a gold medal as well. It was fired

:24:36. > :24:40.for the England team at the Commonwealth Games and gold for

:24:41. > :24:45.Britain at the European Championships. Jamaica ran 40 1.83

:24:46. > :24:49.at the Commonwealth Games. The British record is just the starting

:24:50. > :24:57.point. It is a platform for them to go on and get quicker. Really

:24:58. > :25:19.content and push America and Jamaica in the coming years. Here they come.

:25:20. > :25:33.So much talent in the entire sprint squad. The way that these in the

:25:34. > :25:38.change is fantastic. -- relay teams interchange.

:25:39. > :25:57.Our new European champions. Our new British record holders. 42.24.

:25:58. > :26:05.Rounding off what has been a fantastic European Championships for

:26:06. > :26:05.the British team. These women encapsulate the promise and the

:26:06. > :27:15.talent of the future. A 5-star performance from four stars

:27:16. > :27:20.of the future. Britain's first gold medal of this final day. The 12 of

:27:21. > :27:29.these wonderful European Championships in Zurich.

:27:30. > :27:35.Our experts have had some fabulous performances to pull over and to

:27:36. > :27:40.pick out the favourites. We asked them to do it last night. I am sure

:27:41. > :27:46.that they will add in some of the things that they saw today. This is

:27:47. > :27:50.what they came up with. These championships have given us a

:27:51. > :27:56.glimpse into the future of British athletics. We have seen some amazing

:27:57. > :28:00.performances. I think it has been a great Championships for Britain in

:28:01. > :28:05.particular. Many of them have had to contend with two Championships. They

:28:06. > :28:10.have managed to switch from the Commonwealth Games, focus and come

:28:11. > :28:14.here to Zurich to win medals. You get a sense that this has been a

:28:15. > :28:20.great camaraderie within the team. They are young and vibrant. Even the

:28:21. > :28:25.senior ones have made an impression. This is it, her whole career has

:28:26. > :28:30.been about this moment. It is gold for Jo Pavey. She's the champion.

:28:31. > :28:39.Knowing her, it is more special because you know how hard she has

:28:40. > :28:41.worked for this victory. Jo Pavey has finally came of age at the age

:28:42. > :29:04.of 40. Our athlete of the modern time is Mo

:29:05. > :29:13.Farah, a really low year for hep, -- him. Goldsboro Mo Farah. He needed

:29:14. > :29:17.to be on the track again, having faced so many difficulties this

:29:18. > :29:21.year. It was brilliant to see him back on the track and see winning

:29:22. > :29:26.ways, but to see Andy Vernon coming from behind, I think that was

:29:27. > :29:34.testament to how hard he has worked in preparation. I think as in any

:29:35. > :29:39.championship whenever you get the home victory it is really special.

:29:40. > :29:54.Kariem Hussein has called for Switzerland. -- gold. You get a real

:29:55. > :30:07.mix, those for who this might be the last chance alone. -- saloon. It was

:30:08. > :30:13.a really smart race, he was patient. Who can possibly knock that

:30:14. > :30:16.performance? You get the sense that a gold medal means so much to

:30:17. > :30:27.certain individuals, the face of Tiffany Porter was just wonderful.

:30:28. > :30:33.Gold at last for Tiffany Porter. Eilidh Child winning the gold medal

:30:34. > :30:39.was something else. Eilidh Child, the Golden child in Europe. It was a

:30:40. > :30:46.massive smile on her face and it was a lovely emotional moment for her.

:30:47. > :30:51.Night after night we have seen gold medals, silver medals, from

:30:52. > :30:56.athletes, some we did not expect to win medal, and some people that

:30:57. > :31:01.really needed to step up. It is James Dasaolu. And Harry gets the

:31:02. > :31:15.bronze. What a victory for Dafne Schippers. Adam Gemili, called for

:31:16. > :31:19.Great Britain. -- gold. It has been a delight all-round to see British

:31:20. > :31:25.athletics at the top end taking care of by some of the elder statesmen

:31:26. > :31:30.and women. And being taken care of by those who will give us the rules

:31:31. > :31:33.for the next several years. For the sprinters this has been a fantastic

:31:34. > :31:37.platform and it might give them the confidence that attack the World

:31:38. > :31:41.Championships and the Olympics they have every chance of doing well. I

:31:42. > :31:49.think people will perhaps think back to zoo that and think that is where

:31:50. > :31:56.I saw them first. -- is Eric -- to Z?rich. STUDIO: That medal belongs

:31:57. > :32:08.to Greg Rutherford, thank you for joining us, does that feel as good

:32:09. > :32:13.as any medal you have one this year? It is a strange one because there

:32:14. > :32:16.was a lot of pressure on me, I am starting to learn how to deal with

:32:17. > :32:20.that because expectation has gone through the roof since the Olympics.

:32:21. > :32:26.Seeing how many great performances the British are put on, I think

:32:27. > :32:29.everyone expected to go out and win gold medals, if I had not done it I

:32:30. > :32:34.would have got a lot of stick and things would not have been too nice,

:32:35. > :32:38.I had to get it done. We were old is appointed when you pulled out of the

:32:39. > :32:42.Glasgow Grand Prix, you said you were not resting the summer because

:32:43. > :32:49.it was about winning major championships and that calculated

:32:50. > :32:56.decision has paid off, was this about cementing the Olympic gold?

:32:57. > :33:00.Absolutely, I have taken steps since the Olympics, last year was a

:33:01. > :33:09.terrible year, things did not go well and this was about me redeeming

:33:10. > :33:15.that. I always go to and win medals. My body has let me down but

:33:16. > :33:19.I am in a good place, I seem fit and strong. Andy Turner is a very close

:33:20. > :33:23.friend of mine and we are gutted to see him go and he said go and get it

:33:24. > :33:29.done which is what she managed in 2010. Seeing so many great

:33:30. > :33:35.performances it felt easier to do but with added pressure. Let's have

:33:36. > :33:40.a look at your performance, everybody has eulogised about your

:33:41. > :33:47.consistency on the board. You have the most amazing run up, we don't

:33:48. > :33:52.tend to see you foul much. Getting close, few mentions of that in the

:33:53. > :33:56.past, but I am in a great position with a great grip where I am running

:33:57. > :34:01.against very fast people and that helps me. For me being fast on the

:34:02. > :34:07.runway means I will be consistent and in a good position. A few issues

:34:08. > :34:11.where I am still over rotating, but ultimately ends are starting to come

:34:12. > :34:16.together. I have always known if I am faster I feel good and will

:34:17. > :34:23.generally get it in. It is testament to my coach and the group who have

:34:24. > :34:31.been working hard to make me faster. What are you most pleased with this

:34:32. > :34:34.season? It is a tough one, I set out from the start seeing the

:34:35. > :34:38.Commonwealth Games were my major goal because it was almost like

:34:39. > :34:46.London but obviously in Scotland. That was very special. But this too

:34:47. > :34:52.back that up 17 days later it algae may sit into something really

:34:53. > :34:56.special, the whole summer, I cannot pinpoint one good performance.

:34:57. > :35:01.Fantastic to start jumping so well, but to finish by doing this, it

:35:02. > :35:05.proves I can hold together, my body has matured enough to put together a

:35:06. > :35:12.decent distances and if I can finish on a good high and maybe jump a bit

:35:13. > :35:16.further it will be at amend year. I have noticed that managing your body

:35:17. > :35:23.has always been tricky, do you think you have got a hold on that now. You

:35:24. > :35:28.always want to compete and do very well, sometimes your body is not

:35:29. > :35:33.quite right, when you are younger you are more determined to be

:35:34. > :35:39.clever, as I have gone on I have started to understand the signs,

:35:40. > :35:45.little issues cropping up. That was the sign for me, the slight issue

:35:46. > :35:50.that I have to go and get sorted, 40 injections later of bits into my

:35:51. > :35:54.spine and knees seemed to clear it up and testament to UK athletics

:35:55. > :35:58.they did fantastic for me. Staying fit and healthy is the name of the

:35:59. > :36:04.game I have had a lot of times it has not gone right fortunately this

:36:05. > :36:06.time it has. Was that the time when you fell out of love little bit or

:36:07. > :36:34.Ed became disenchanting? Yes. I could not get it together,

:36:35. > :36:38.everything changed, I was travelling around the world at my own expense

:36:39. > :36:43.trying to find the perfect mix of coaching, weather and everything

:36:44. > :36:47.else, didn't find it and it became something I didn't enjoy. Looks like

:36:48. > :36:52.the smile is back in your face and a baby to come which could cap off the

:36:53. > :37:00.whole year. Thank you. Denise, Colin, Paula, thank you for your

:37:01. > :37:03.contributions, Britain on top of the table, the best ever performance in

:37:04. > :37:06.a European athletics Championships, we will see you for more next Sunday

:37:07. > :37:11.in Birmingham. Goodbye from us.
