:00:59. > :01:07.A really good start. Dasaolu takes It's all-or-nothing now for Holly

:01:07. > :01:10.Bleasdale. She's got it! Holly Bleasdale is the champion.

:01:14. > :01:24.session of these Championships. Six medals for the British team so far.

:01:24. > :01:24.

:01:24. > :01:29.We are all set for a golden finale. Asha Philip goes in the semifinals

:01:29. > :01:36.and hopefully the final of the women's 60m. The men's pole vault,

:01:36. > :01:42.Steve Lewis is up against the Olympic Champion Renaud Lavillenie.

:01:42. > :01:47.Chris Tomlinson - you are never sure how far he is going to go.

:01:47. > :01:53.Let's hope it is a good day. All the drama of the relays. A chance

:01:53. > :01:58.of a golden finale for the men's and the women's team. Christine

:01:58. > :02:01.Ohuruogu is stepping in to the women's team.

:02:01. > :02:05.This is the schedule for this afternoon. We will be looking back

:02:05. > :02:09.at this morning's session over the course of the next 30 minutes or so

:02:09. > :02:15.before the live action gets go. We have Steve Lewis in the pole vault.

:02:15. > :02:24.We have the men's long jump. Chris Tomlinson is going in that and we

:02:25. > :02:30.finish with the relays. In the studio, two golden oldies

:02:30. > :02:35.and a new one - Denise, Colin and Holly Bleasdale. A brilliant

:02:35. > :02:40.performance from yesterday. Let's performance from yesterday. Let's

:02:41. > :02:50.look back at your golden moment. This is a gold medal chance for

:02:51. > :02:56.

:02:56. > :03:06.jump-off with the defending champion. It is all-or-nothing for

:03:06. > :03:12.Holly Bleasdale. She's got it! It's gold for Great Britain. Holly

:03:12. > :03:15.Bleasdale is the champion. The Great Britain team captain says

:03:15. > :03:19.congratulations to Britain's first medal of these Championships. It is

:03:19. > :03:24.gold in the women's pole vault. never experienced anything like

:03:24. > :03:27.that before. The jump-off was weird. that before. The jump-off was weird.

:03:27. > :03:31.I have never done one before. We both tied for the gold medal and we

:03:31. > :03:36.could take the gold together or we could carry on jumping. Whoever

:03:36. > :03:41.cleared the bar first would win the medal. I wanted to keep jumping. I

:03:41. > :03:48.was so happy. I wanted to run around. That's the best feeling I

:03:48. > :03:54.have ever felt before. I'm so happy. I can't believe it.

:03:54. > :03:58.There is the big gold medal. How does it feel to be holding that?

:03:58. > :04:02.feels good. Take us back to the qualification first of all. We

:04:02. > :04:06.thought you started off a bit shakely, perhaps? Yes. Is that

:04:06. > :04:10.fair? I had the worst warm-up of my career, which wasn't a great start.

:04:10. > :04:16.It was hard with 20 girls out there. They split the men into two pools

:04:16. > :04:19.and for us, they kept it as 20. It was difficult, the line was huge. I

:04:19. > :04:23.was always at the back of it. I tried to get through that. I didn't

:04:23. > :04:28.have a good start. I got through. That was a good start. How much

:04:28. > :04:34.were you aware of the fact that we are all expecting you to win?

:04:34. > :04:38.everyone was. It was a nice feeling going into it having everyone

:04:38. > :04:43.behind me thinking I could win gold. I just was happy to come in and win

:04:43. > :04:46.a medal. In the back of my mind, I wanted to win gold. I was always

:04:46. > :04:51.coming here for more experience and to win a medal. When I won gold, I

:04:51. > :04:57.was so happy. Let's take a look at that winning vault again. Talk us

:04:57. > :05:02.that winning vault again. Talk us through it. I was jumping well at

:05:02. > :05:08.the start. This jump was at the end. I had done 15 jumps already. I was

:05:08. > :05:15.tired, but I muscled my way through it and cleared it. The second time

:05:15. > :05:18.that you cleared 4.67m. The first time was a bit nerve-wracking?

:05:18. > :05:24.coped quite well with them pressure situations. I always seem to do it

:05:24. > :05:29.on the last attempt. When I did by 4.77m, that was my last attempt.

:05:29. > :05:33.4.77m, that was my last attempt. I'm good at that now. You had gone

:05:33. > :05:39.for 4.62m, three other athletes cleared that height. You missed it

:05:39. > :05:43.and chose to go to 4.67m? Yes, it was nerve-wracking and Scott told

:05:43. > :05:49.me to skip the bar, so I could try and get ahead of the field again.

:05:49. > :05:52.It was a good move. I'm glad I did it. When you haven't been in that

:05:52. > :05:57.circumstance before, what gives you the belief you can do it, you know,

:05:57. > :06:01."I am going to do this right now"? I don't know. I feel really

:06:01. > :06:04.confident this indoor season. That was good for me to have that

:06:04. > :06:09.confidence coming into here. I had just put my jump together really

:06:09. > :06:13.well. I felt it is all-or-nothing now. I'm trying hard, but I always

:06:14. > :06:20.put the extra bit in for the last attempt. It always seems to pay off.

:06:20. > :06:24.Colin mentioned the confidence. You had the option of taking a gold

:06:24. > :06:29.medal with Rogowska, a guaranteed gold medal. You chose to gamble to

:06:29. > :06:33.stand up there on your own? Yeah, I would rather have the gold on my

:06:33. > :06:36.own than have it shared. I would rather risk and having silver. I

:06:37. > :06:40.was positive and confident that I could clear that bar over her. We

:06:41. > :06:45.both were tired at this point. It could have been an easy option. I

:06:45. > :06:49.am quite a fighter. I know I could clear it. I wanted gold to myself.

:06:49. > :06:59.Standing on the rostrum on your own is what you did. We can take a look

:06:59. > :07:03.at that now. What did Rogowska say for the jump-off? She wanted the

:07:03. > :07:09.gold. She was like, "Let's not have a jump-off." The coaches were like

:07:09. > :07:16.that as well. She was defending champion. There was a bit of argy-

:07:16. > :07:23.bargy going on? She wanted to, like, not jump. Very, very interesting.

:07:23. > :07:28.It certainly is. Where do you go from here now? You showed great

:07:28. > :07:31.grit and determination. What is next? I have another competition in

:07:31. > :07:37.Manchester. I'm looking forward to that. All the pressure is off now.

:07:37. > :07:47.I can enjoy myself. And I will go out for another training block in

:07:47. > :08:16.

:08:16. > :08:21.Arizona and go from there to Nice feeling? Nice to watch it

:08:21. > :08:25.back? Really good. I have only been on it once before. A burning

:08:25. > :08:29.question - what cheesecake did you have? I didn't have any. Did you

:08:29. > :08:35.not? It wasn't on the menu. If we didn't know that, we would have got

:08:35. > :08:40.a special cheesecake in! That would have been nice. Overnight, some

:08:40. > :08:45.interesting news from America. 5.02m, a World Indoor Record. What

:08:45. > :08:50.was it like waking up to that with the gold medal? I was happy. She is

:08:50. > :08:54.a nice girl. We get on really well. When I woke up and watched the

:08:54. > :08:58.video, it was such a good jump. I have watched her vault already with

:08:58. > :09:04.my coach. I have took pointers. I'm happy for her. It gives me

:09:04. > :09:10.something to chase now. It is another girl over 5m, which is

:09:10. > :09:16.great for our sport. Denise, how impressed were you with the way

:09:16. > :09:20.Holly conducted herself? I was very impressed. It did look at some

:09:20. > :09:25.stages were you were unsure about what to do, you looked a bit

:09:25. > :09:29.nervous. Then you came through it. As the competition progressed, you

:09:29. > :09:33.seemed to get more and more confident, and you nailed it?

:09:33. > :09:37.was, like, a pressure situation and people have, like, applauded me and

:09:37. > :09:40.said I handled myself very well. In that situation, I was going with

:09:40. > :09:45.the flow and trying to be as positive as I could about the

:09:45. > :09:50.situation and when the jump-off - I have never been in a jump-off

:09:50. > :09:55.before, I didn't know what one was, so I waved to the crowd thinking I

:09:55. > :10:00.had come second. My coach was, like, you need to focus, you still have a

:10:00. > :10:05.jump. I was, like, OK. What is the difference to jumping indoors to

:10:05. > :10:08.outdoors? Indoors, there is no wind, no rain, no weather. It's another

:10:08. > :10:13.factor you don't have to think about. It is pretty similar. The

:10:13. > :10:20.wind and the rain is a big factor. It is easier to jump indoors. I

:10:20. > :10:24.prefer outdoors. We know all about the wind from the Olympic final.

:10:24. > :10:31.There is another pole vaulter on the track now, Steve Lewis. What

:10:31. > :10:35.sort of form is he in? He's changed a lot technically. He's had a

:10:35. > :10:39.couple of injuries like the bar landed on his shin and it took a

:10:39. > :10:44.while for him to recover from that. He looked really good in warm-up.

:10:44. > :10:47.He seems fired up. He has come into here with nothing to lose. The

:10:47. > :10:55.pressure is off. I think he will enjoy it and hopefully the result

:10:55. > :10:59.will come. Renaud Lavillenie in this and Bjoern Otto. All three of

:10:59. > :11:04.the Olympic medallists are here. It should be a good final. I'm looking

:11:04. > :11:09.forward to watch it. You mentioned technique. I'm going to talk

:11:09. > :11:14.technique with you. If you go back a year, you jumped 4.87m in France

:11:14. > :11:18.off a short pole, or a soft pole, a short run-up. Is there any sense of

:11:18. > :11:22.frustration that you haven't progressed from that and if you

:11:22. > :11:26.haven't, why not? I think I have progressed in so many other ways,

:11:26. > :11:29.like although it is not the height, everything else has come together,

:11:29. > :11:34.like I am much more confident and more controlled in the run-up. My

:11:34. > :11:38.technique is so much better and the technique I need to try and jump 5m,

:11:38. > :11:42.which is good that I am changing now and learning. I have to go a

:11:42. > :11:49.step backwards to get it right and I feel like I have not took any

:11:49. > :11:53.step backwards at all. Although I have not jumped 4.87m or above, I'm

:11:53. > :11:58.so much more consistent. We were going to look at the timetable

:11:58. > :12:08.going to look at the timetable earlier on. We can now. Shortly, we

:12:08. > :12:29.

:12:29. > :12:34.have the women's 60m semifinal with Really high hopes in the two relays.

:12:34. > :12:39.Holly, what next for you now? You have the gold medal. Building up to

:12:39. > :12:43.the outdoor season, what is the plan? I will take a week's rest. I

:12:43. > :12:47.have Manchester, which is quite a small competition, I will go there

:12:47. > :12:52.and it is my local town so all my friends and family will come and

:12:52. > :13:00.watch. I will go out to America, do another stint, training. I am

:13:00. > :13:05.trying to work on the 4.60m poles more. First one outdoors will be

:13:05. > :13:09.New York Diamond League. Well done on yesterday. Brilliant to watch.

:13:09. > :13:14.Good luck for your preparations. Thanks. We will head out now for

:13:14. > :13:24.the women's 60m semifinals. Good afternoon to Paul Dickenson, Andrew

:13:24. > :13:40.

:13:40. > :13:43.semifinal is to be negotiated. Asha Philip is in the second semifinal

:13:43. > :13:52.for Great Britain. Straightforward qualification. The first four to

:13:52. > :14:02.the final, which is at 5.15pm UK time. Amy Foster has a tough job on

:14:02. > :14:14.

:14:15. > :14:19.four women who had run under 7.20. Asha Philip was ranked three in

:14:19. > :14:24.Europe and it was all change in the first round yesterday. We now have

:14:24. > :14:28.eight women who have gone under that time. Some really good

:14:28. > :14:38.performances, so to be honest, the four middle lanes here, if Amy

:14:38. > :14:51.

:14:51. > :14:57.Foster were to break into that, European Championships last year.

:14:57. > :15:03.She didn't manage to when the 200 metres medal.

:15:03. > :15:13.Mariya Ryemyen it is a good 60m athlete. As, indeed, it is Jeremy

:15:13. > :15:17.

:15:17. > :15:21.Lelievre, -- Ivet Lalova. Verena Sailer is the German

:15:21. > :15:28.champion, she won a medal at these championships four years ago. She

:15:28. > :15:38.is a better athlete now. Yulia Katsura is the new Russian

:15:38. > :16:13.

:16:13. > :16:23.going into the final -- you could end up.

:16:23. > :16:32.

:16:32. > :16:37.the middle. It is going to be Mariya Ryemyen who takes it from

:16:38. > :16:44.Ivet Lalova. As expected. They are getting quicker. We could see

:16:44. > :16:51.something pretty fast in the final. Mariya Ryemyen reverses the result

:16:51. > :16:56.of the heat. Ivet Lalova got the best start. After 10m, Mariya

:16:56. > :17:06.Ryemyen takes a metre out of the rest and hold sip right to the end.

:17:06. > :17:07.

:17:07. > :17:13.Lower no vac macro comes back, but not enough. -- Ivet Lalova if.

:17:13. > :17:20.Looking relaxed. Not everybody gives everything in the semi-final.

:17:20. > :17:30.Remember Jimmy Vicaut yesterday. Who came back to get the gold medal.

:17:30. > :17:38.

:17:38. > :17:43.A good performance from Mariya This is on the far four lanes.

:17:43. > :17:48.Dafne Schippers performing really well. Considering it is not her

:17:48. > :17:58.best event. It is all about power for strength with Mariya Ryemyen,

:17:58. > :18:15.

:18:15. > :18:25.time of 7.20, and they were under that time. Asha Philip to come in

:18:25. > :18:25.

:18:25. > :19:29.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 63 seconds

:19:29. > :19:38.Tumi. Coming through the middle, it will be Jimmy Vicaut, I think he

:19:38. > :19:42.got it. James Dasaolu of right. He was diving for the line, it will be

:19:42. > :19:48.very close, a photo-finish will decide this. Arms were going up

:19:48. > :19:53.around me, the French are not sure, Jimmy Vicaut is not sure.

:19:53. > :19:59.Congratulating Emmanuel Biron. This is very close. I think Jimmy Vicaut

:19:59. > :20:04.got it, it is coming up on the computer, under 6.5, Jimmy Vicaut

:20:04. > :20:10.for the first time becomes the French champion, in second place,

:20:10. > :20:16.or, he becomes European champion, the first time a Frenchman has

:20:16. > :20:22.taken that title. James Dasaolu with a superb clocking, the same

:20:22. > :20:29.time as that man. He takes the silver medal. It was so close.

:20:29. > :20:34.Just watch the start. James didn't get out quite as well, Jimmy Vicaut

:20:34. > :20:43.was in front. Maybe just ahead, now, a stretch for the line, Jimmy

:20:43. > :20:53.Vicaut, a little bit of momentum at the end, he up leans him just. --

:20:53. > :21:30.

:21:30. > :21:40.and Andrew Cotter describes the in this one. Barbora Prochazkova.

:21:40. > :21:49.

:21:49. > :21:58.And Nataliya Pohrebnyak, the indoor indoors so far. Running very well

:21:58. > :22:02.outdoors. Ezinne Okparaebo of Norway, as

:22:02. > :22:07.Steve was saying, they're getting quicker and quicker through at this

:22:07. > :22:10.event. Myriam Soumare, European 200 metres

:22:10. > :22:16.javelin three years ago in Barcelona, she took bronze in the

:22:16. > :22:20.100 metres. Asha Philip, winning the UK indoor

:22:20. > :22:24.title in Sheffield last month. She will have to go quicker to make it

:22:24. > :22:29.into the final and a chance of a medal.

:22:29. > :22:37.Jamile Samuel from the Netherlands, the youngest in this semi-final, 20

:22:37. > :22:47.years old. On the outside, Hanna-Maari Latvala,

:22:47. > :23:03.

:23:03. > :23:08.spectators, to see Mariya Ryemyen running. Asha Philip. The three

:23:08. > :23:18.women inside her, will challenge her. Four will go through to the

:23:18. > :23:44.

:23:44. > :23:51.lane seven, a bit of a twitch. I think Jamile Samuel might be in a

:23:51. > :23:56.bit of trouble here. The youngster from the Netherlands. Her looks

:23:56. > :24:06.betraying her rage and relative inexperience. I think that little

:24:06. > :24:16.

:24:16. > :24:26.jog there might be her last serious Hanna-Maari Latvala. You have to

:24:26. > :24:32.

:24:33. > :24:42.warning for Hanna-Maari Latvala, just a warning. I will live with

:24:43. > :25:01.

:25:01. > :25:05.with this a little more, the do it all again, get into a zone of

:25:05. > :25:15.concentration. She will know if she runs to her potential, she should

:25:15. > :25:25.

:25:25. > :25:35.faster than the others. Again, four to go through to this evening's

:25:35. > :25:54.

:25:54. > :25:58.Soumare takes them out. Tezdzhan Naimova. Asha Philip in 4th place,

:25:58. > :26:07.she is safely through to the final, but the pace was set by Myriam

:26:07. > :26:17.Soumare of France. Her time is 7.05, quicker and quicker still they go.

:26:17. > :26:21.We are getting an official time of 0.07. Mariya Ryemyen of round 7.0

:26:21. > :26:27.in the first semi-final. Myriam Soumare was impressive from first

:26:27. > :26:37.to last. Asha Philip making it through. These four separating

:26:37. > :26:52.

:26:52. > :26:56.STEVE CRAM: She had to concentrate to produce the form she has been

:26:56. > :27:01.all year. Everyone is raising their game for the final.

:27:01. > :27:10.Every British woman has made the final in these jab bishops so far,

:27:10. > :27:17.well done to Asha Philip, to keep that trend going. -- these

:27:17. > :27:27.championships. She has conducted herself really well, we will see

:27:27. > :27:47.

:27:48. > :27:51.her later on it 5:15pm. -- at One quick word. Every British woman

:27:51. > :27:57.who has been here this week, has gone into the final, you have kept

:27:57. > :28:03.that going. Hopefully. How did that faulty start affect you, was it a

:28:03. > :28:10.nervous moment? They held us back quite long, so it was frustrating.

:28:10. > :28:15.You have to keep your head focused. I do not care. She got a warning. I

:28:15. > :28:25.just wanted to run. We wish you well for the final, see you later.

:28:25. > :28:30.Very calm and collected, Colin? There is a lot of pressure at the

:28:30. > :28:34.start of the 60m, especially if you know you are one of four or five

:28:34. > :28:38.who can qualify for the final. Even though she has been out of the

:28:38. > :28:45.sport with an injury, she has come back with a very mature attitude.

:28:45. > :28:49.She prepared herself very well. is not that experienced. She has

:28:49. > :28:53.had a long time out. It takes a while to feel that composure again

:28:53. > :28:59.and understand you need to keep your head in these pressurised

:28:59. > :29:05.situations. She benefited quickly from the fast starting of Myriam

:29:05. > :29:12.Soumare of France. But start was actually very smooth.

:29:12. > :29:17.transition phase was elegant. A great job. She has her family out

:29:17. > :29:23.here. She has come here to do a serious job and get to that final,

:29:23. > :29:28.excellent. In terms of build up to this championships, she ran quickly

:29:28. > :29:38.at the UK trials in Sheffield. Her personal best. In Birmingham, a

:29:38. > :29:44.

:29:44. > :29:48.Yes. She knows she's won titles in her youth before in similar

:29:48. > :29:53.conditions. She is going through the rounds in a nice way and

:29:53. > :29:56.getting quicker each time. It is getting that consistency under your

:29:56. > :30:01.belt that gives you belief, that you can raise your game at the

:30:01. > :30:07.right moment in time. What do you make in terms of the final itself?

:30:07. > :30:10.You have Soumare looking for a French double. She was very strong.

:30:10. > :30:19.French double. She was very strong. It is anyone's game. She came out

:30:19. > :30:24.of her blocks blistering. If Asha holds her form, she needs to get in

:30:24. > :30:28.there, that is her lane draw, anything could go. She's got to

:30:28. > :30:35.keep her head and pretend and ignore the other girls. That same

:30:35. > :30:41.bullet-like start, fast out, she is in with a chance. Eight women in

:30:41. > :30:47.the final, all eight of them think they can win a medal, Colin?

:30:47. > :30:52.wouldn't you? 7.15 - I can't use the word "slowest" going into the

:30:52. > :30:57.final. It is anybody's race. It is about who holds their form. It will

:30:57. > :31:07.be very tight at the back end. When you see that line, you lean!

:31:07. > :31:08.

:31:08. > :31:14.are used to doing this kind of turnaround, a a semifinal and a

:31:14. > :31:20.final. What does she do now? the hard work is done. Now it is

:31:20. > :31:27.time to relax, do a bit of jogging, but there is nothing she needs to

:31:27. > :31:32.do. It is all there. Asha coming up later on. We saw in between those

:31:32. > :31:38.two semifinals the men's 60m from yesterday and Colin that was a

:31:38. > :31:43.massive breakthrough for James? He had a very good semifinal. We

:31:43. > :31:47.were hoping he hadn't run his best race in the semifinal. No, he came

:31:47. > :31:53.back, he believed in himself. He knew Vicaut was going to be the man

:31:53. > :31:58.to worry about. From pure form, in the past. He kept his head and kept

:31:58. > :32:04.his cool. He ran to the line. Again, 6.48 is a sensational time for him.

:32:04. > :32:12.As I said before, what is great, he will be looking at the fact that I

:32:12. > :32:17.can go under 10 seconds in the summer. That may seem in the -- may

:32:17. > :32:24.see him in the final of the World Championships. He was more worried

:32:24. > :32:28.about running 6.48 than getting this medal? Yes. He can run under

:32:28. > :32:32.10 seconds. That is where he needs to head to. 10 seconds doesn't

:32:32. > :32:37.bring you anything. It doesn't bring you finals in this day and

:32:37. > :32:47.age. No. We will head back out to the track now. The men's pole vault

:32:47. > :32:58.

:32:58. > :33:08.final is under way. Paul Dickenson comfortably through to the final

:33:08. > :33:09.

:33:09. > :33:15.setting a season's best in the process. He has Renaud Lavillenie

:33:15. > :33:24.up against him in this. A chance for Steve Lewis to get his campaign

:33:24. > :33:33.up to a successful start here. 5.51m the target. He looks so

:33:33. > :33:39.smooth. That is a great start. Well done, Steve Lewis. 5.51m, over 18

:33:39. > :33:44.feet. These guys are going much higher than London buses in terms

:33:44. > :33:53.of the height they are achieving. A solid start for the British number

:33:53. > :34:02.one. Here is the best pole vaulter in the world currently. The

:34:02. > :34:12.defending European Indoor Champion, Olympic Champion, twice the World

:34:12. > :34:13.

:34:13. > :34:19.Champion. Oh, he flies over. 5.61m for Renaud Lavillenie. That is the

:34:19. > :34:28.ability of the man. A great start for the Frenchman. Surely the

:34:28. > :34:33.favourite to take gold. Well, Steve Lewis, just looking at the computer

:34:33. > :34:41.in front of me here, he has passed on 5.61m. The next time we see him

:34:41. > :34:45.he will have to set a season's best of 5.71m to stay in the competition.

:34:45. > :34:49.Konstadinos Filippidis of Greece, the Greek record holder. He looked

:34:49. > :34:54.very good in qualifying, too. Some very, very good vaulters out there.

:34:54. > :34:59.The balance of power in pole vaulting at the moment rests in

:34:59. > :35:08.Europe. It used to be the Americans, there was a great Australian as

:35:08. > :35:12.well, Steve Hooker. The Europeans have come on in leaps and bounds in

:35:12. > :35:20.recent years! Steve Lewis, for the time being, is holding his best

:35:20. > :35:30.with them. Robert Sobera of Poland, 5.61m now. He cleared a personal

:35:30. > :35:36.best to qualify for this final. Sobera - oh - going well! That is

:35:36. > :35:41.another lifetime best performance for the young man. 22 years old.

:35:41. > :35:51.Certainly a name to watch out for. He is getting more and more

:35:51. > :35:58.

:35:58. > :36:06.Bjoern Otto. A silver medallist in the Olympic Games behind Lavillenie.

:36:06. > :36:13.They are locking horns once again. We also have the bronze medal is,

:36:13. > :36:23.Raphael Holzdeppe. Otto goes well clear. -- bronze medallist, Raphael

:36:23. > :36:26.

:36:26. > :36:36.Holzdeppe. Otto goes well clear. Bjoern Otto - 5.61m, looking very

:36:36. > :36:48.

:36:48. > :36:58.confident indeed. This is 5.61m so you can see the

:36:58. > :37:02.

:37:02. > :37:06.standard of competition that faces Steve Lewis. A very tidy vaulter,

:37:06. > :37:10.Jan Kudlicka. JONATHAN EDWARDS: With are hopeful

:37:10. > :37:15.of a very good long jump competition as well. Chris

:37:15. > :37:19.Tomlinson going in that. The crowd are going to get behind it. You

:37:19. > :37:25.forget that Chris Tomlinson came sixth in the Olympics, the one that

:37:25. > :37:30.grug Rutherford won. These were his -- Greg Rutherford won. These were

:37:30. > :37:35.his thoughts ahead of these his thoughts ahead of these

:37:35. > :37:43.Championships. Because it was such a poor competition, and I missed a

:37:43. > :37:50.medal by 5cm, it was very tough to take. I had some tough mental

:37:50. > :37:56.months after that. I couldn't believe 8.17m was second and 8.12m

:37:56. > :38:00.was third and 8.31m won it. It was tough to deal with. That was part

:38:00. > :38:05.of the decision to leave London behind. I have moved coaches and I

:38:05. > :38:10.have been bedding in with my coach. I have another four or five seasons

:38:10. > :38:14.left leading into 2017, the World Championships. I hope to fulfil my

:38:14. > :38:18.potential. This weekend will be an interesting one. Will it, won't it

:38:18. > :38:22.happen this weekend? I'm confident it will start paying dividends in a

:38:22. > :38:28.few months' time. I can only see where I'm at in competition,

:38:28. > :38:31.personally. In training, you never are 100%. You always leave a bit in

:38:31. > :38:35.the reserve tank. In competition, particularly at Championships, you

:38:35. > :38:38.are going for it. What is great about the indoor season is you are

:38:38. > :38:42.only a few months away from the outdoor season. So you sit back

:38:42. > :38:45.after the Championships, you review where you are at, you review the

:38:46. > :38:49.good points, the bad points, and then you can start to build-up to

:38:49. > :38:53.the outdoors. In the past, I have always been injured during the

:38:53. > :39:00.indoor season. It is remarkable that I'm here. Normally, this time

:39:00. > :39:04.in the year, I am barely able to jog, let alone jump!

:39:04. > :39:11.JONATHAN EDWARDS: No doubt Chris has potential. He has had that

:39:11. > :39:18.has potential. He has had that script for a little while now?

:39:18. > :39:21.DENISE LEWIS: Yes, he has. He's inconsistent. Yes, he has been

:39:21. > :39:28.injury-ravaged, which is very unfortunate. You never know with

:39:28. > :39:33.him. I think that is with Chris. He can jump well and he can jump badly.

:39:33. > :39:38.He has also changed his technique a little bit?

:39:38. > :39:42.COLIN JACKSON: Yes, Holly said the same thing. You have to go back to

:39:42. > :39:46.come forward. When you work at the speeds and dealing with certain

:39:46. > :39:54.things while you are trying to change your technique, that can

:39:54. > :39:58.allow you to run into problems. Chris has been carrying his injury.

:39:58. > :40:02.All that piles more and more tension on you. He's coming here

:40:02. > :40:05.now with a real opportunity and he will look around, he will know what

:40:06. > :40:11.type of competition is around him. He knows every single person here.

:40:11. > :40:14.He has competed against them on a regular basis. He should fill

:40:14. > :40:21.himself with a little bit of confidence and think, "You know

:40:21. > :40:27.what, what Greg Rutherford did in London, I can do that to these guys

:40:27. > :40:35.here today." Let's look back to a breathless

:40:35. > :40:42.morning at the Scandinavium Arena. We can have a look at the start

:40:42. > :40:52.list. STEVE CRAM: Eilidh Child, the

:40:52. > :41:08.

:41:08. > :41:18.Scottish indoor record holder this and Shana Cox was advanced to the

:41:18. > :41:39.

:41:39. > :41:44.has started quick. She has taken a yard out of Eilidh Child. A fast

:41:44. > :41:48.first 100m. Shana Cox has started quickly in lane one. Perri Shakes-

:41:48. > :41:53.Drayton is in the perfect position to take the lead here with Eilidh

:41:53. > :41:58.Child slotting in behind her. This is perfect for Great Britain. Shana

:41:58. > :42:01.Cox moves into third. Perri Shakes- Drayton controlling this from the

:42:01. > :42:05.front. Eilidh Child, right where she wants to be. This is quick from

:42:05. > :42:08.Perri Shakes-Drayton. She looks in superb form. The others are

:42:08. > :42:13.trailing behind. It is Great Britain one-two at the moment. The

:42:13. > :42:17.others are a long way behind. Perri Shakes-Drayton going for gold,

:42:17. > :42:24.pulling away from her team-mate. It will be a British one-two. Perri

:42:24. > :42:30.Shakes-Drayton wins it in a superb time! Brilliant, brilliant running.

:42:30. > :42:34.She's got better through these Championships. The talent that we

:42:34. > :42:39.have always known was there, that she's always known was there, has

:42:39. > :42:44.finally come to the fore. Eilidh Child should be delighted with her

:42:44. > :42:47.performance to take the silver medal. She couldn't catch her team-

:42:47. > :42:52.mate. What a brilliant performance from the British athletes. There is

:42:52. > :42:57.her coach. The two of them have worked really hard to get Perri

:42:57. > :43:00.into this sort of shape. She was criticised a bit about her

:43:00. > :43:05.performance in London last year. If she can carry this sort of form

:43:05. > :43:10.into the summer, who knows what she is going to be capable of. It was

:43:10. > :43:20.tight for bronze. There was no doubt, was there, about the winner?

:43:20. > :43:20.

:43:20. > :43:24.Eilidh Child was clear in second as well. That moves - she was already

:43:24. > :43:29.third quickest ever British athlete indoors after her performance

:43:29. > :43:33.yesterday. She has improved her own best time. That is a nice

:43:33. > :43:38.waistcoat! What a good start to this final day of the yaurpian

:43:38. > :43:46.Indoor -- European Indoor Championships for Great Britain. A

:43:46. > :43:56.world-leading time of 50.85. A new national record for Hjelmer of

:43:56. > :44:06.

:44:06. > :44:12.I knew it would be a hard race, I had to really work on that break, I

:44:12. > :44:18.am delighted. How were your nerves at the start? Was pretty nervous, I

:44:18. > :44:23.knew everybody would be chasing me because I was in lane six. I went

:44:23. > :44:29.out hard. Kept working on that second black. A great sense of

:44:29. > :44:38.satisfaction, coming here as a medal contender, and delivering.

:44:38. > :44:43.You want to get a medal, to get a silver, I am so happy with this one.

:44:44. > :44:51.And a personal best. I can't ask any more than that.

:44:51. > :44:56.I am over the moon, I am happy. A lot of people were already putting

:44:56. > :45:00.gold on me. Obviously, you want to come back and win. I hope this

:45:00. > :45:04.benefits when I come to the outdoors. It will, probably, for

:45:05. > :45:12.the pair you. You dominated throughout each round, in complete

:45:12. > :45:18.control again. Setting the world alight. I can't be too complacent.

:45:18. > :45:28.Stay out of trouble. State at the front, and maintain it. I have done

:45:28. > :45:29.

:45:29. > :45:38.that every round -- Stay at the front. How is it coming here in the

:45:38. > :45:48.morning to run a final? I am used to the early starts. I'm glad it is

:45:48. > :45:53.

:45:53. > :45:58.out of the way. Hopefully, I will Eilidh Child. She is a hurdle her.

:45:58. > :46:05.I am sure she is very excited about her prospects for the summer. As

:46:05. > :46:12.well this young lady beat as well. European indoor champion. Perri

:46:12. > :46:22.Shakes-Drayton, in a world leading time, something which bodes well

:46:22. > :46:26.

:46:26. > :46:36.Shakes-Drayton. That will take her through the next few months, into

:46:36. > :46:51.

:46:51. > :47:00.but not so good there. A little bit of he Cup for Steve Lewis. Looked

:47:00. > :47:05.superb in his opening vault. Those two failures in what would be a new

:47:05. > :47:12.season's best, a height which he has got to get if he wants to stay

:47:12. > :47:18.in there, fighting. And to go for a medal. There are some superb

:47:18. > :47:28.athletes. Many of the athletes have passed this height. But Steve Lewis

:47:28. > :47:35.

:47:35. > :47:44.only has he got to get five. 71, he will have to go higher now because

:47:44. > :47:49.of these two failures. Robert Sobera has already had two failures

:47:49. > :47:59.as well. Steve Lewis has got to find something from somewhere if he

:47:59. > :48:07.

:48:07. > :48:11.chris thomson is out there. There is the opposition. Michel Torneus

:48:11. > :48:21.will be the first have to jump, the Swedish athlete, finishing 4th in

:48:21. > :48:33.

:48:33. > :48:43.Which chris thomson has actually turned up today, it confident one?

:48:43. > :48:54.

:48:54. > :48:58.competition got away to an absolutely incredible start. Rather

:48:58. > :49:04.like the women's triple jump this morning when Olha Saladuha made the

:49:04. > :49:14.longest jump in the world this year. Michel Torneus, a new Swedish

:49:14. > :49:27.

:49:27. > :49:34.indoor record, at 8.27. That is is it for Steve this, he has to

:49:34. > :49:44.clear this, otherwise he is eliminated. He drives end. Great,

:49:44. > :49:44.

:49:44. > :49:51.well done, Steve Lewis. One of his best ever. His lifetime best in

:49:51. > :50:01.this event is 5.77, he is not far short of that. A real, a gutsy

:50:01. > :50:08.

:50:08. > :50:13.performance. So, his campaign in Michel Torneus, the Swedish athlete

:50:13. > :50:18.who started this competition. He sped down the runway, a brilliant

:50:18. > :50:23.take-off. Absolutely sailed through the air for what seemed like an age,

:50:23. > :50:29.to the roar of the crowd. They were cheering him before he had even

:50:29. > :50:34.taken off. He knew it was good. He must have known it was good. He

:50:34. > :50:42.nailed it on take-off. A lot of people have been saying this is

:50:42. > :50:47.Sweden's best bet for a gold medal. There it was, the longest jump in

:50:47. > :50:54.the world this year. And a new Swedish indoor record, with the

:50:54. > :51:01.very first jump of the competition. Aleksandr Menkov, qualified with

:51:01. > :51:08.8.22, looked absolutely superb, a cracker to start. That is certainly

:51:08. > :51:16.up with Michel Torneus. He is small in stature, but, boy, does he

:51:16. > :51:21.produce good jumps when it really matters. Chris Tomlinson will be

:51:21. > :51:26.looking forward to his second round jump, just congratulated him. World

:51:26. > :51:36.indoor gold -- bronze-medallist. He has gone into the lead by one

:51:36. > :51:37.

:51:37. > :51:42.centimetre. It is game on in this A word on Perri Shakes-Drayton, a

:51:42. > :51:47.wonderful performance. She is growing in stature every time. This

:51:47. > :51:53.bodes well for the outdoor season. Coming here in shape, running so

:51:53. > :52:03.quickly, it is brilliant. We saw the men's 400m, but let us look at

:52:03. > :52:28.

:52:28. > :52:38.from this final bend. He has to settle it down. In command. Running

:52:38. > :52:43.hard. He has left the others. He is going away by a metre and a half.

:52:43. > :52:49.His competitors cannot close. Bennett, on his way to a gold medal,

:52:49. > :52:56.of running bad this and lead, into the straight, he has won it all the

:52:56. > :53:03.way. That, if confirmed, it is a new world indoor record. No one has

:53:03. > :53:10.ever run faster than that. And he did it to perfection.

:53:10. > :53:18.Away first time, it is important, this first bend. They have reached

:53:18. > :53:28.the breaking point right. Bennett has gone up very quickly. Bennett

:53:28. > :53:31.

:53:31. > :53:36.is in the control position as they break. Holding his own. Bennett at

:53:36. > :53:42.the front. A powerful Dutchman goes on the outside. Can he get back

:53:42. > :53:49.inside, Bennett says nabbing macro, Bennett still controlling all the

:53:49. > :53:55.way. The champion of two years ago. He is hanging on. Bennett gets the

:53:55. > :54:05.gold. I said there is only one way to win it, from the front, and

:54:05. > :54:11.

:54:11. > :54:16.athletes. We want to send in our very best wishes, as he is not very

:54:16. > :54:26.well at the moment. The men's 400m final was this

:54:26. > :54:59.

:54:59. > :55:09.get an indication, Pavel Maslak -- Pavel Maslak has started very

:55:09. > :55:16.

:55:17. > :55:22.quickly. Really has gone for this, the lead. Trenikhin, almost running

:55:22. > :55:31.wide. Pavel Maslak in control. These three are well clear of the

:55:31. > :55:36.rest. Trenikhin will try to attack but Pavel Maslak has got this.

:55:36. > :55:41.Levying -- of Nigel Levine clipped Pavel Trenikhin. Gold medal to the

:55:41. > :55:46.Czech Republic. Silver medal to Nigel Levine. Trenikhin ran a

:55:46. > :55:52.terrible race. This man just gets better and better. He looked

:55:52. > :56:00.Supreme coming into this. Nigel Levine did well. I said he had a

:56:00. > :56:04.difficult decision to make, when he realised chickened -- Pavel

:56:04. > :56:10.Trenikhin tried to come across him, he took the advantage, came through.

:56:10. > :56:14.On the last bend, I am sure the Russians will have a little look

:56:14. > :56:24.but Trenikhin was going backwards at that point. The sky is good, he

:56:24. > :56:28.

:56:28. > :56:33.will have a good summer as well. -- the Russians may have something to

:56:33. > :56:41.say. It will be interesting. They lost their number-one runner in the

:56:41. > :56:51.women's event. Was he impeded? No doubt about the winner. Nigel

:56:51. > :56:53.

:56:53. > :56:58.Levine running a very good race result for Great Britain, Nigel

:56:58. > :57:03.Levine with a season's best. He wins the silver medal behind the

:57:03. > :57:13.dominant Pavel Maslak. A really good performance from him.

:57:13. > :57:15.

:57:15. > :57:21.Trenikhin have hung on for a bronze They are all humans, they are all

:57:21. > :57:25.beatable. I listened to my coach, did my best, and finished second. A

:57:25. > :57:33.season's best, from lane three, what can I say. You have the relay

:57:33. > :57:37.to come, they could be another medal. What? There is a little bit

:57:37. > :57:41.of aggravation would the Russian, he actually stepped off the track,

:57:41. > :57:50.what was he tried to suggest to you? Was there any contact between

:57:50. > :58:00.him and you? He was running wide. 400m. Here it is what he is

:58:00. > :58:04.probably talking about. I am on the inside lane. You see. Trying to

:58:04. > :58:10.chop in front of me so I had to slow down, that is not my fault.

:58:10. > :58:20.You saw him cut right in front of me. So he has gone off the track

:58:20. > :58:24.and on to it. As you can see. The Russians did have something to

:58:24. > :58:34.say about that, they appealed, and the Russian got disqualified, how

:58:34. > :58:36.

:58:36. > :58:40.about that! We can look at the impeded by Nigel Levine, he lost

:58:40. > :58:50.his footing when Nigel Levine clipped his Hill. What the appeal

:58:50. > :59:00.

:59:00. > :59:04.was about was the fact he came he did cause the first issue. I

:59:04. > :59:11.think that's quite right. JONATHAN EDWARDS: He was

:59:11. > :59:18.disqualified for stepping out of the track, not for impeding Nigel

:59:18. > :59:22.Levine. COLIN JACKSON: The track is

:59:22. > :59:32.measured from the middle of the lane. What did he expect?

:59:32. > :59:40.Indeed. Let's get back out to the pole vault with Paul Dickenson.

:59:40. > :59:46.Thanks, Jonathan. Renaud Lavillenie now. My goodness, he was almost

:59:46. > :59:53.through the rafters there! Tremendous height. He steams in

:59:53. > :59:57.before he plants the pole. He had time to punch the air in

:59:57. > :00:07.celebration on the way down. That was massive. Still the man to beat

:00:07. > :00:11.

:00:11. > :00:17.in the pole vault. Perfect record so far. Christian Reif has a chance,

:00:17. > :00:24.but what a start we have seen. A couple of 8m jumps in the first

:00:24. > :00:34.round. That is real world-class stuff. Christian Reif is an 8m

:00:34. > :00:41.jumper at best. That looks close to the 8m mark. Chris Tomlinson was

:00:41. > :00:49.7.93m in the first round. Good height in the end. Not as smooth as

:00:49. > :00:58.Alexander Menkov. 8.01m is good enough for third place. The women's

:00:58. > :01:08.high jump is starting very soon. Ruth Beitia won the European

:01:08. > :01:10.

:01:10. > :01:20.Championships outdoors last year. Watch out for Alessia Trost. Still

:01:20. > :01:23.

:01:23. > :01:27.only 19. The local favourite Emma Green Tregaro as well. Tia

:01:27. > :01:30.Hellebaut of Belgium, the Olympic Champion in 2008. She has had a

:01:30. > :01:35.couple of babies since then. She is in a bit of trouble here. That is

:01:35. > :01:40.not the best we have seen from this great athlete. She was a superb

:01:40. > :01:44.multi-eventer. Then she turned her attentions to high jump. She is a

:01:44. > :01:52.good athlete. There is no doubt about that. It has not gone all her

:01:52. > :01:56.own way here today. So she is out of the competition, 1.92m was the

:01:56. > :02:04.target. She couldn't achieve it. She looked very good in qualifying

:02:04. > :02:09.for this final yesterday. Wasn't to be today. One of the greats, in my

:02:09. > :02:17.opinion. I just wonder what she might have achieved had she stuck

:02:17. > :02:24.with heptathlon. She was superb. She is out of this final. Ruth

:02:24. > :02:31.Beitia now. A little stutter before she made the take-off there. 33

:02:31. > :02:35.years old, there is no slowing this athlete down. Has a slightly-

:02:35. > :02:40.exaggerated technique in terms of the curved run she has into the bar.

:02:40. > :02:50.It is very, very effective, indeed. Consistently one of the best in the

:02:50. > :02:57.

:02:57. > :03:07.world for many, many years. 1.96m on her first attempt. That's 1.96m

:03:07. > :03:13.

:03:13. > :03:21.with a rattle! A tremendous performance. Fast approach. Only

:03:21. > :03:28.the last few strides she makes the turn to the take-off. Sweden could

:03:28. > :03:33.get another medal here. 1.96m for Jungmark. Chris Tomlinson has

:03:33. > :03:41.already seen three jumpers go 8m- plus. He knows he is in a world-

:03:41. > :03:51.class competition here. So he needs to do something about it. The take-

:03:51. > :03:54.off looked good. I think he will get the white flag. He does. Looks

:03:54. > :04:04.anxiously across. Even the athletes themselves can only get a rough

:04:04. > :04:06.

:04:06. > :04:13.indication as to how far it is. Looks close to 8m. 8.01m is third

:04:13. > :04:18.place at the moment by Christian Reif of Germany. Chris is sixth at

:04:18. > :04:27.the moment. 7.95m, a slight improvement.

:04:27. > :04:31.JONATHAN EDWARDS: Earlier on this morning, we saw Yamile Aldama in

:04:32. > :04:41.the triple jump. Not the best condition coming into this

:04:41. > :04:45.competition. She won the World Indoors last year. She made the

:04:45. > :04:55.final. It was this woman who dominated it right from the very

:04:55. > :04:56.

:04:56. > :05:01.start. The first jump 14.88m. That was a massive 58 centimetres clear

:05:01. > :05:04.of her nearest rival. We have looked back to three of the four

:05:04. > :05:10.medals that were won this morning. Time to look at the fourth. It was

:05:10. > :05:20.in the men's 800m and Seb Coe backed Mukhtar Mohammed when he was

:05:20. > :05:24.

:05:24. > :05:28.in the studio yesterday. He delivered. Let's relive it all.

:05:28. > :05:37.ANDREW COTTER: These are the competitors in the final of the

:05:37. > :05:41.800m. We heard Seb Coe saying yesterday he believes he will win a

:05:41. > :05:51.medal. He has the talent. Does he have the tactical nous to get it

:05:51. > :05:56.

:05:56. > :06:06.right? The final of the men's 800m. Four laps of the track to settle it.

:06:06. > :06:06.

:06:06. > :06:12.The Spaniard is taking it out quickly. Lopez wanted to get out in

:06:12. > :06:19.front with Marco. At the moment, it is Mukhtar Mohammed settling down

:06:19. > :06:27.in fourth place. PAULA RADCLIFFE: The defending

:06:27. > :06:33.champion is at the back of the field, Adam Kszczot.

:06:33. > :06:42.He is lurking at the back at the moment, Kszczot, with Mukhtar

:06:42. > :06:47.Mohammed placed well. Kevin Lopez taking it out. Mukhtar Mohammed

:06:47. > :06:53.decides to move to the outside. Kszczot just beginning to hit top

:06:53. > :06:57.speed now and he makes his move. Dangerously through on the inside

:06:57. > :07:05.there, Mukhtar Mohammed. Nearly took a tumble. He needs to get

:07:05. > :07:11.himself free so he can follow Kszczot through. Just looks a bit

:07:11. > :07:15.unsettled there. It takes energy out of you. He is six metres behind.

:07:15. > :07:19.Kszczot hits the front with the bell. The two Spaniards behind him.

:07:19. > :07:25.Mukhtar Mohammed getting blocked. A lot of work to do for Mukhtar

:07:25. > :07:31.Mohammed. This may be a race beyond him. Kszczot out in front looking

:07:31. > :07:35.to defend his title. Mukhtar Mohammed making his move. It is

:07:35. > :07:43.Kszczot with the Spaniard Kevin Lopez behind him and Mukhtar

:07:43. > :07:48.Mohammed coming through to take the bronze and just about gets there! I

:07:48. > :07:52.think that Mukhtar Mohammed might have got there. The winner, Adam

:07:52. > :07:55.Kszczot. Is there a bronze for Kszczot. Is there a bronze for

:07:55. > :08:03.Mukhtar Mohammed? You said you wanted it and you have

:08:03. > :08:09.got it? Yes. Yesterday, I had a sore calf. Today, good or bad, I

:08:09. > :08:18.just trust Allah, the God. Whatever plan he made for me. And a medal

:08:18. > :08:27.came your way, but not without some bumping and barging? Yes, yes.

:08:27. > :08:32.Where is he from? The guy who tried to...? The Belarussian. I had a

:08:32. > :08:40.tough time with him. That is putting it mildly! Yeah, yeah. Also,

:08:40. > :08:47.this morning, when I met him, I told him you were the favourite and

:08:47. > :08:53.he said it would be a good race. Mukhtar Mohammed is here with his

:08:53. > :08:58.bronze medal. Feel good? Yes, great. You won it the tough way. There was

:08:58. > :09:05.a number of times where it looked like you had lost your momentum and

:09:05. > :09:13.a medal was out of your grasp? My race wasn't the way I planned it.

:09:13. > :09:17.I felt a sore calf from yesterday and this morning was a bit, how you

:09:17. > :09:22.say, a bit... You and the Belarussian have a bit of history.

:09:22. > :09:26.He doesn't seem to like you very much? Even in the warm-up, we all

:09:26. > :09:31.said good luck and he wasn't talking. If he had beaten you to

:09:31. > :09:36.the bronze medal, he would have been disqualified? For sure. Talk

:09:36. > :09:42.us through these three rounds that you have run. To come here and do

:09:42. > :09:50.800m, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, it shows what condition you are in?

:09:50. > :09:55.had a good training. I would like to thank my team for giving me a

:09:55. > :10:00.good opportunity to train in Kenya. I was really strong. I really

:10:00. > :10:07.believed I would get a medal. I really enjoyed this competition,

:10:07. > :10:13.every minute of it. The heat was making me go stronger. We had the

:10:13. > :10:18.leader, Jenny Meadows, she lift all the team up. How important do you

:10:18. > :10:24.feel this is for you? It is a big breakthrough, isn't it? Yeah, it is

:10:24. > :10:34.a big moment. This is the first senior medal. It is funny. Two

:10:34. > :10:34.

:10:34. > :10:40.years ago, 2011, the same one, two, three. Adam won it, Kevin was

:10:40. > :10:44.second and I was third. Steve Lewis not getting it right in the pole

:10:44. > :10:50.vault. Some cheering going on behind us, this is the women's high

:10:50. > :10:57.behind us, this is the women's high jump. This is 1.99m. Not quite to

:10:57. > :11:01.be. How tough is it, having to put together those three races? It is

:11:01. > :11:11.very tough. Even indoors. Indoors is a different game. I think that

:11:11. > :11:19.

:11:19. > :11:26.is the reason I have a tight calf. The pole vault continuing, Steve

:11:26. > :11:30.Lewis there failing at that height. Colin, I think you were incredibly

:11:30. > :11:32.impressed by the way he conducted himself over the course of these

:11:32. > :11:37.three days? It has been a tremendous Championships. You said

:11:37. > :11:42.you came here and you knew what you were capable of delivering, which

:11:42. > :11:47.was that medal. I spoke to you many years ago now, in 2008, I remember

:11:47. > :11:52.you saying then that you believed you can be the best 800m runner in

:11:52. > :11:56.the world. This is a stepping stone for you now. You have experienced

:11:56. > :12:02.this, you know, in your heart of hearts now, do you still think to

:12:02. > :12:08.yourself, "This is fantastic" or do you think, "This is a stepping

:12:08. > :12:15.stone, there's much more from me to come"? I remember the first time we

:12:15. > :12:25.met, Hull? Yes. 2007, when I was - the football, I used to love

:12:25. > :12:30.football a lot. I got a scholarship for Sheffield Wednesday. My brother

:12:30. > :12:37.told me to try athletics. I ran good in the first year. Yeah, after

:12:37. > :12:41.today, after - well, you can't get better than a medal. It was a

:12:41. > :12:44.brilliant performance. We are all, I think, we all thought you did

:12:44. > :12:49.brilliantly, particularly that final, when you were down-and-out,

:12:49. > :12:54.and you had a strong kick in the end. We are ready for some big

:12:54. > :13:04.stuff in the outdoors for you. Thank you. Jenny Meadows ran this

:13:04. > :13:27.

:13:27. > :13:33.Everard in the final for Ireland. The women's 800m final, four laps

:13:33. > :13:43.of the track. Jenny Meadows, if she wants to go to the front, she is in

:13:43. > :13:43.

:13:43. > :13:48.the best lane to do that. Look at Kotulskaya. She was making sure she

:13:48. > :13:52.was going to be as close to Jenny Meadows as possible. This is what

:13:52. > :14:02.we expected. Jenny Meadows taking it out and is going to try and win

:14:02. > :14:21.

:14:21. > :14:30.successfully defended this title. She is giving it her best shot.

:14:30. > :14:35.Really important that these 200 splits are quick. The first,

:14:35. > :14:43.quickest, then don't let it drop. The Russian is looking very relaxed,

:14:43. > :14:49.the others are bunched up nicely behind. Ciara Everard in 4th place.

:14:50. > :14:54.Jenny Meadows is not going flat out yet. With every lap, it slows down

:14:54. > :15:00.imperceptibly. He she definitely has to push on.

:15:00. > :15:06.This is where, yesterday, she had that little extra. Then she tired

:15:06. > :15:15.in the closing stages. Hopefully she has more to cover this move now.

:15:15. > :15:21.Suffering there, she has defied for a medal here. Nataliya Lupu has

:15:21. > :15:31.stolen a march, against the favourite, Elena Kotulskaya. Maybe

:15:31. > :15:34.

:15:34. > :15:40.too much, too late for Jenny Meadows have to do. -- Jenny

:15:40. > :15:50.Meadows to do. Given the mouth of training she has missed, this is

:15:50. > :15:51.

:15:51. > :15:55.the reason why she couldn't produce It was a massive tactical error,

:15:55. > :16:01.but 4th in Europe, three races back-to-back. I will take that

:16:01. > :16:07.forward to summer. It has dented my ego a little, I don't like being

:16:07. > :16:16.beaten. I am incredibly proud of myself to put myself on the line,

:16:16. > :16:25.with little preparation. It is all about the summer.

:16:25. > :16:35.Cat and Meadows, I should call you. You perhaps weren't quite so happy

:16:35. > :16:35.

:16:35. > :16:40.-- Captain Meadows. A I am quite good friends with Adam Kszczot for

:16:40. > :16:44.one the 1,800 -- 800 metres. He saw my training in South Africa, when I

:16:44. > :16:54.had bitchery started running when he was well into his indoor

:16:54. > :16:58.preparations. -- had literally. I do not like to see myself not

:16:58. > :17:08.prepared, but this weekend was all about mental strength, to come here,

:17:08. > :17:09.

:17:09. > :17:14.to remember how to prepare for him mental -- to prepare mentally

:17:14. > :17:19.forehead championships. You put yourself through torture, the

:17:19. > :17:24.countdown to the competition, doing three days back to back. No doubt,

:17:24. > :17:30.that will be fantastic for my summer season. How important was it

:17:30. > :17:35.to get back, after the horrors of last year. There have been dark

:17:35. > :17:42.moments in my injury when a thought I might not even be able to run as

:17:42. > :17:47.a recreational athlete, never mind with my dog or my friend. To put a

:17:47. > :17:52.pair of spikes on, being a competitive environment at the

:17:52. > :18:02.European Athletics Indoor Championships, it is brilliant.

:18:02. > :18:05.

:18:05. > :18:09.ran in Birmingham, and here are. -- you ran. I have done four races in

:18:09. > :18:14.a few weeks. I haven't been able to do that, put myself in that

:18:14. > :18:20.position. I was quite shocked yesterday how good physical shape I

:18:20. > :18:25.was going to run a World Championship standard. I am sure in

:18:25. > :18:32.a few months I can improve. improved a lot from the first round

:18:32. > :18:38.through to the second. He looked as if you struggled in the first.

:18:39. > :18:44.dense your ego. I haven't done so much -- done much work. I can't

:18:44. > :18:53.even do my full repertoire of drools in warm ups. So I am really

:18:53. > :18:59.not prepared. It was a shock really in the heats, not to have my normal

:18:59. > :19:04.tools. I can normally kick, that is my strength. I had to reassess in

:19:04. > :19:14.the semi-final. I didn't quite get it right in the final, probably

:19:14. > :19:20.

:19:20. > :19:26.should have gone earlier. 4th place, jump. If she does not get this, it

:19:26. > :19:34.means gold goes to Spain. The whole stadium watching, my goodness, that

:19:34. > :19:42.was so close. Swedish heart have been broken by a brilliant Spaniard.

:19:42. > :19:52.It is this will work and a bronze which goes to the host nation. --

:19:52. > :19:53.

:19:53. > :20:00.it is a silver. 1.99 was the target, a prodigious height. Emma Green

:20:00. > :20:07.Tregaro gets a medal, so does Ebba Jungmark.

:20:07. > :20:13.This was a little while ago. Ruth Beitia, the Spanish record holder,

:20:13. > :20:21.her best jump this year, coming at exactly the right time. It was left

:20:21. > :20:25.to Emma Green Tregaro and Ebba Jungmark. Spanish gold it is here

:20:25. > :20:31.today in the women's high jump. Ebba Jungmark gets the silver medal.

:20:31. > :20:37.Emma Green Tregaro gets the bronze medal.

:20:37. > :20:47.Chris Tomlinson has got a lot of work to do, he is down in 7th place.

:20:47. > :20:51.

:20:51. > :21:00.Gradually being shunted down from metres, that is the target for

:21:00. > :21:09.Chris. We saw two of massive jumps from Aleksandr Menkov and Michel

:21:09. > :21:19.Torneus, the Swedish athlete. It is very consistent, but he needs

:21:19. > :21:22.

:21:22. > :21:32.out also his flailing right arm. Denise, you had a question for

:21:32. > :21:36.It was a calculated risk to come or not to come. It could have dented

:21:36. > :21:40.your confidence even further. Exactly, by confidence was dented

:21:40. > :21:47.on Friday after that heat, finishing in third. My goodness, a

:21:47. > :21:52.thought I might not make the final. I have taken a calculated risk. It

:21:52. > :21:57.is important I came back of on Saturday, a confidence boost. I am

:21:57. > :22:03.really excited now, training starts tomorrow again. I have the same

:22:03. > :22:07.amount of time before the summer season starts, to the time I

:22:07. > :22:13.actually had when I started to run again. I have enough time. I am

:22:13. > :22:21.really excited. You mentioned training there, you changed your

:22:22. > :22:27.spikes. I changed my spikes. I can't believe it. Yesterday, I was

:22:27. > :22:33.wearing some tatty old spikes, if the truth be told. A week ago, last

:22:33. > :22:38.Saturday, I was out by local track in Wigan, doing a really hard

:22:38. > :22:48.training session, in the puddles at Wigan...

:22:48. > :22:49.

:22:49. > :22:57.More importantly in Gothenburg, this is to stay in the competition.

:22:57. > :23:06.Steve Lewis. It wasn't to be. Steve Lewis is eliminated, he will finish

:23:06. > :23:10.in 6th place, equal 6th place. With Robert Sobera who has also been

:23:11. > :23:17.eliminated, the young Polish athlete. The battle for bronze

:23:17. > :23:22.continues. Any minute now, the bar will be put up to 5.86, and beyond.

:23:22. > :23:32.The British No. 1 was attempting to equal the decade long British

:23:32. > :23:32.

:23:32. > :23:39.record to stay in the competition Coming back to your injury, it

:23:39. > :23:45.isn't a case of managing pain, or is it OK? A I am not in any pain. I

:23:45. > :23:50.have had a good meeting with our Performance Director. He was head

:23:50. > :23:57.physio it at one point. He has been brilliant. Talking to me, and

:23:57. > :24:01.Trevor, talking about training. What I am doing, what I need to do,

:24:01. > :24:06.what I want to be able to do. He has given me the green light to

:24:06. > :24:16.start so more drills, to get my speed back. The fastest think I

:24:16. > :24:21.have really done is going through 457. So, yes, I am looking forward

:24:21. > :24:28.to starting all of that tomorrow, as I say. I feel like a child all

:24:28. > :24:33.over again, starting mike and -- my athletics career. I am so excited.

:24:33. > :24:38.Paula Radcliffe, it was great to see Jenny Meadows back. It was

:24:38. > :24:42.really good to see her back. She says she came here and there was a

:24:42. > :24:48.little bow the race, but she is very mentally and physically strong

:24:48. > :24:53.which is showing. If nothing else, to go out there and savour

:24:53. > :24:57.competing, getting out there and do what you do best. Three very good

:24:57. > :25:03.training sessions have brought her on. You would have thought she

:25:03. > :25:09.would have a day off for. Always capitalise on it when it goes well.

:25:09. > :25:15.We a quick update on your fitness. How are things going with you? You

:25:15. > :25:19.have had the operation? I am at that stage work I am hoping and

:25:19. > :25:24.praying I can run again. And from that, work out whether I can get

:25:24. > :25:29.back to competing again. It is one step at a time, I just want to be

:25:29. > :25:35.pain-free and run after the children! Coming back to Jenny

:25:35. > :25:41.Meadows, as captain of the team, have you enjoyed that experience?

:25:41. > :25:46.Your speech, probably more nervous about that? The probably the

:25:46. > :25:51.easiest speech I have had to write. There are cliches in life, sport

:25:51. > :25:57.can be crawl, you never know what you have until it is gone. As an

:25:57. > :26:01.athlete, you don't feel at churning but you drag yourself out. When you

:26:01. > :26:06.have been injured, you can't wait to do any sort of training session.

:26:06. > :26:11.I talked a lot about taking the opportunity, which I think this

:26:11. > :26:21.young British team has, the average age is 22 years old in the team.

:26:21. > :26:24.Some of the athletes, the way they have qualified, fought a European

:26:24. > :26:32.Athletics Indoor Championships, it is fantastic. They are kids,

:26:32. > :26:41.they're not afraid. When I was 20, 11 years ago, I made my debut at

:26:41. > :26:46.these championships. And looked around thinking, so many

:26:46. > :26:52.international athletes. It was great to be given the honour of

:26:52. > :26:56.team captain. It has given me a spring in my step. An interesting

:26:56. > :27:03.statistic, every single British woman in the team has made the

:27:03. > :27:07.final. I worked that one out myself, they have done fantastic. A few

:27:07. > :27:12.superstars in the team, Holly Bleasdale, Perri Shakes-Drayton.

:27:12. > :27:22.The face of British athletics, we are coming into a new Olympic cycle,

:27:22. > :27:25.

:27:25. > :27:35.favourite in the long jump. A fantastic atmosphere inside the

:27:35. > :27:36.

:27:36. > :27:43.arena, the crowd have got behind It is a young team, six medals so

:27:43. > :27:47.far. And counting. We have the relays to come. Peter Eriksson is

:27:47. > :27:56.the new head coach, quite a different man from Charles than

:27:56. > :28:04.commonly. Has there been a noticeable change? -- Charles Van

:28:04. > :28:11.Commenee. Charles didn't let you make any excuses. The athletes have

:28:11. > :28:17.had to do it themselves. Athletes are very accountable to themselves

:28:17. > :28:23.which is great. Peter is completely different. The little more human.

:28:23. > :28:30.He doesn't need to top athletics all the time. He asked what you

:28:30. > :28:33.have for breakfast. It is a great atmosphere. Thank you for chatting

:28:33. > :28:38.with us, good luck with the training tomorrow.

:28:38. > :28:47.No medal targets for the British team. We had our own medal

:28:47. > :28:52.Paula Radcliffe obviously got carried away, as did Denise, with

:28:52. > :28:57.five gold medals. But, Colin and Steve, you have not done too badly.

:28:57. > :29:02.I am still hoping that team will improve on my figure of a seven. It

:29:02. > :29:06.is a great target for them. With that in mind, what I am looking

:29:06. > :29:10.forward to this the European team championships in Gateshead, this is

:29:10. > :29:20.a real beginning of a new season. The team championships, a good

:29:20. > :29:36.

:29:36. > :29:45.chance. We will come back to that again. He has led since his first

:29:45. > :29:52.round jump. Michel Torneus has had the crowd roaring him down the

:29:52. > :30:02.runway every time he's stepped on to the track. With that one,

:30:02. > :30:06.Alexander Menkov, I think has gone further ahead. He has, 8.31m. Two

:30:06. > :30:15.jumps to go. This is the situation in what has

:30:15. > :30:19.been an enthralling happen tath lon competition. Six of the seven event

:30:19. > :30:29.-- heptathlon competition. Six of the seven events have been

:30:29. > :30:43.

:30:43. > :30:47.completed. Sintnicolaas is leading laps of the track. Because these

:30:47. > :30:57.guys are big fellas, it is a gruelling event to finish their

:30:57. > :31:04.

:31:04. > :31:14.two-day competition. There are two good Dutch men in the overall field.

:31:14. > :31:47.

:31:48. > :31:57.This is Kevin Mayer. He's had going into this last event. Here we

:31:58. > :32:18.

:32:18. > :32:28.over Mayer of France. Mayer's problem is that - it is not a

:32:28. > :32:29.

:32:29. > :32:32.problem, is it - it's a big cushion that Mayer has. One of the guys in

:32:32. > :32:42.there, in the red-and-white vest of Serbia, he is half-way down the

:32:42. > :32:46.field at the moment, he's got a two-second deficit at the moment.

:32:46. > :32:56.So there is a possibility the bronze medal could change hands

:32:56. > :33:06.

:33:06. > :33:10.over the course of the next two laps. Lavillenie now. 5.91m in the

:33:10. > :33:15.pole vault, that is what he needs. That is fantastic! That is

:33:15. > :33:25.unbelievable. This guy is just head and shoulders better than anybody

:33:25. > :33:25.

:33:25. > :33:29.else here today. Bjoern Otto has failed and passed on his two final

:33:29. > :33:39.attempts. Lavillenie has really driven a nail into the coffin of

:33:39. > :33:53.

:33:53. > :34:03.the German now. Just over a lap- and-a-half to go now in this 1,000m

:34:03. > :34:19.

:34:19. > :34:26.race. The Frenchman Mayer has the silver medal sewn on now. Dudas is

:34:26. > :34:34.going so well he could well be in with a shout for the bronze. We

:34:34. > :34:43.know who's got gold and silver. Dudas is raising his arms, he

:34:43. > :34:46.thinks he's done enough. He could have been two and a bit seconds

:34:46. > :34:54.ahead of the Czech Republic man. There is the champion in your

:34:54. > :34:59.picture now. The winning time was 2:36.84. That is four seconds

:35:00. > :35:09.outside of the time that was required to beat the Championship

:35:10. > :35:31.

:35:31. > :35:35.it, he is one of the new stars of multi-events. There is strength in-

:35:35. > :35:41.depth in the United States in decast lon, though. I know during

:35:41. > :35:47.the American Championship -- decathalon, though. I know during

:35:47. > :35:57.the American Championship there is a good competition there going on

:35:57. > :36:15.

:36:15. > :36:22.for the major honours. Kevin Mayer that Dudas has done enough to win

:36:22. > :36:30.the bronze medal, by just about four points, which is a

:36:30. > :36:40.tantalisingly close margin. Dudas is in the background there, wearing

:36:40. > :36:42.

:36:42. > :36:48.4 on his vest. It looks as though he has moved up to third. What a

:36:48. > :36:54.great record this is from Renaud Lavillenie. He's cracked it! Surely,

:36:54. > :37:04.surely, we can see a 6m jump here today if he is going to carry on

:37:04. > :37:09.like this. Lavillenie is a class apart. Bjoern Otto has given up the

:37:09. > :37:13.ghost, despite the fact he's passed on 5.91m. I wonder whether we will

:37:13. > :37:21.see him. He is out there with his pole getting ready. We will have to

:37:21. > :37:31.wait and see. Christian Reif in the fourth round. This German knows

:37:31. > :37:35.

:37:35. > :37:40.what he's got to do. There are the two marks by the Russian de Menezes

:37:40. > :37:50.and Michel Torneus of Sweden. -- by the Russian Alexander Menkov and

:37:50. > :37:50.

:37:50. > :37:56.Michel Torneus of Sweden. It is 8.28m and 8.27m for gold and silver

:37:56. > :38:05.at the moment. 8.07m, he has improved. He's consolidated his

:38:05. > :38:11.position in third place. Bjoern Otto knows he is up against

:38:11. > :38:20.a fabulous competitor in Renaud Lavillenie. Lavillenie has not put

:38:20. > :38:25.a foot wrong here today. Take into account that Otto had one failure

:38:25. > :38:29.at 5.86m. This is 5.96m. He elected to pass his two further attempts to

:38:30. > :38:35.go for the greater height. He knows he's got to go higher than the

:38:35. > :38:40.Frenchman. That was tight. So one more attempt for the German.

:38:40. > :38:44.Otherwise gold, as predicted, I think, the whole pole vault

:38:44. > :38:54.fraternity knew Lavillenie was favourite. He has showed everybody

:38:54. > :38:56.

:38:56. > :39:00.a clean pair of heels at the moment. There it is, the result that means

:39:00. > :39:10.Sintnicolaas produces the world's highest score this year - 6,372

:39:10. > :39:12.

:39:12. > :39:22.points. A major breakthrough from Kevin Mayer. Mihail Dudas did get

:39:22. > :39:22.

:39:22. > :39:28.ahead of Adam Helcelet to take the bronze medal.

:39:28. > :39:34.JONATHAN EDWARDS: We are always guaranteed drama in these indoor

:39:34. > :39:44.athletics. It should be the start of what could be a fantastic year

:39:44. > :39:44.

:39:44. > :40:45.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 63 seconds

:40:45. > :40:51.earlier on in the women's 3,000m. We can catch up with that now. A

:40:51. > :40:56.big moment for the young athlete. She didn't have the best of starts

:40:56. > :41:05.to her European Indoor final. A bit of bumping and barging. She ended

:41:05. > :41:15.up taking a nasty fall. STEVE CRAM: This is brave running

:41:15. > :41:23.

:41:23. > :41:33.that is going to Portugal. The question is where are the other

:41:33. > :41:39.

:41:39. > :41:43.medals going? There is still danger. The winner easily gliding around

:41:43. > :41:53.that top bend is Sara Moreira. There is a real scrap on for the

:41:53. > :41:55.

:41:55. > :42:05.medals behind her. Harrer is looking for a gap. Harrer takes the

:42:05. > :42:07.

:42:07. > :42:12.silver and Britton takes the bronze. JONATHAN EDWARDS: A good

:42:12. > :42:18.performance from Lauren Howarth. We can chat to Steve and to Paula. Not

:42:19. > :42:25.the ideal start for her, was it, the ideal start for her, was it,

:42:25. > :42:29.Paula? It did shake her a bit. I was encouraged to see her take the

:42:29. > :42:33.step up. There were a few times it got slower, very slow in the

:42:33. > :42:37.beginning, picked up a bit. It didn't pick up until the closing

:42:37. > :42:44.kilometre. A couple of times Lauren moved on to the shoulder of the

:42:44. > :42:49.leader and seemed afraid to attack it. Crammy, I guess that is why you

:42:49. > :42:54.come to these Championships, you learn how to conduct yourself when

:42:54. > :42:59.you are in a mix for a medal? is a hard taskmaster. When you do

:42:59. > :43:05.come, you are looking to make some right decisions. Lauren did well.

:43:05. > :43:08.We both agree she ran very well. To come in the top six, that was the

:43:08. > :43:13.selection criteria. There were maybe opportunities in that race to

:43:13. > :43:18.have a little bit of a go. There were one or two who went to the

:43:18. > :43:22.front tentatively. Lauren will look back on this. She is a good athlete.

:43:22. > :43:32.That was a race where three or four athlete also be thinking, "I could

:43:32. > :43:38.

:43:38. > :43:43.have done a bit better." Fionnuala Britton took the bronze medal.

:43:43. > :43:48.is much more comfortable on the cross-country. She can use her

:43:48. > :43:51.ability to force hard and to run away. We watched her in the

:43:51. > :43:55.European Cross Country Championships crush Sara Moreira.

:43:55. > :44:00.Here on the track, it was a different story. Here, she perhaps

:44:00. > :44:10.was a bit overconfident in her closing pace. Thanks for the moment.

:44:10. > :44:20.

:44:21. > :44:26.The men's 1500m coming up very has achieved throughout this

:44:26. > :44:30.competition, he has been consistent. But the medals are over eight

:44:30. > :44:40.metres. So, no improvement from Chris Tomlinson in terms of

:44:40. > :44:44.

:44:44. > :44:54.Chris Tomlinson would turn up today. It was a solid performers, he will

:44:54. > :45:17.

:45:17. > :45:22.finish in 7th place. A modest jump moved into 4th place. Steeplechase

:45:22. > :45:27.specialists mixing it here with 1,500m specialist. Ilham Tanui

:45:27. > :45:34.Ozbilen it is probably thinking his best chance is to make it quick. He

:45:34. > :45:40.has run 3.34. As he did in the qualification, this could be his

:45:40. > :45:50.best tactic. Some may be pleased with that. Some may not, Marcin

:45:50. > :45:59.

:45:59. > :46:09.happy with this, David Bustos in third, won the Spanish Gebbie ships

:46:09. > :46:33.

:46:33. > :46:38.with a couple of -- with a fast just missed out on a medal last

:46:38. > :46:47.year, outdoors. To be honest, there's not many people you would

:46:47. > :46:50.write off in this race. At the front, controlling it, but not

:46:50. > :46:58.extending them. For Mahiedine Mekhissi was looking

:46:58. > :47:04.around to ask if there was anybody to make this pace faster. Mahiedine

:47:04. > :47:12.Mekhissi it is an athlete who says he likes to get into an aggressive

:47:12. > :47:20.mind set, we have spin -- we have seen that here.

:47:20. > :47:26.Not the most popular man. Now, Simon Denissel making a big effort,

:47:26. > :47:34.the pace has slowed too much. Ilham Tanui Ozbilen is determined to hold

:47:34. > :47:41.the lead. Picking it up again. Arturo Casado, realising the danger.

:47:41. > :47:46.Simon Denissel looks good. Mahiedine Mekhissi holding his own.

:47:46. > :47:56.It looks as if Ilham Tanui Ozbilen had gone to sleep. As Simon

:47:56. > :48:16.

:48:16. > :48:22.Denissel moved on to his solder, he Mahiedine Mekhissi it is in second,

:48:22. > :48:27.a gap between the first three and the rest of the field. The be two

:48:27. > :48:34.Spaniards cannot get close. Ilham Tanui Ozbilen of Turkey. Where he

:48:34. > :48:39.has been, since begun. Mahiedine Mekhissi trying to get there. One

:48:39. > :48:44.last big effort. Mahiedine Mekhissi goes for the inside, Ilham Tanui

:48:44. > :48:52.Ozbilen has not seen him. He steals it. The gold medal goes to France.

:48:52. > :48:56.Ilham Tanui Ozbilen, in the last few strides, relinquishes the lead.

:48:57. > :49:06.The French are elated. So they should be. Mahiedine Mekhissi said

:49:06. > :49:10.it was a gamble. This time, he has sneaked it on the inside. He has

:49:10. > :49:13.won a few medals in the steeplechase that that, he is a

:49:13. > :49:20.strong man in the home straight and he has done it once again, this

:49:20. > :49:26.time, to take the gold medal. Mahiedine Mekhissi came here to win

:49:26. > :49:34.it, he was fighting right to the end. Simon Denissel settled for

:49:34. > :49:39.third place. Celebrating as he crossed the line. Once again,

:49:39. > :49:48.Mahiedine Mekhissi has removed his shirt, which she got into trouble

:49:48. > :49:58.for, at the London Olympic Games, sobbing it -- swapping with another

:49:58. > :50:07.

:50:07. > :50:11.French then gritting hard. Simon Denissel says, I am happy with a

:50:11. > :50:21.bronze medal. Mahiedine Mekhissi it is fighting, right to the line, and

:50:21. > :50:25.

:50:25. > :50:31.man who really is on top of his game at the moment. Renaud

:50:31. > :50:41.Lavillenie. Olympic champion. Destined perhaps to become European

:50:41. > :50:41.

:50:42. > :50:48.indoor champion here. Massive. Heat absolutely flew over. He made six

:50:49. > :50:54.metres look very average. That was huge. A man on top of his game,

:50:54. > :51:04.that's for sure. Best height in the world this year. Only eight men

:51:04. > :51:12.

:51:12. > :51:15.have ever cleared six metres or Having to play second fiddle to

:51:15. > :51:23.Renaud Lavillenie in the London Olympics, and having to do it again.

:51:23. > :51:33.His heart wasn't in it. He gets the silver medal. That is the silver --

:51:33. > :51:52.

:51:52. > :51:59.the champion. Applauding what man has ever gone high up in the

:51:59. > :52:09.history of pole vaulting. This would have been the second greatest

:52:09. > :52:19.

:52:19. > :52:29.height ever achieved in pole vault, so well in the pole vault.

:52:29. > :52:37.

:52:37. > :52:43.Mahiedine Mekhissi taking gold cheer on Michel Torneus. The last

:52:43. > :52:53.jump of the competition, Bath won. Still Aleksandr Menkov to come with

:52:53. > :53:01.

:53:01. > :53:08.his last effort. Perilously close. Michel Torneus, how far is it? His

:53:08. > :53:13.best jump so far, 8.27, that came in the first round. Absolutely spot

:53:13. > :53:21.on the board. There was no margin for error with that take-off. One

:53:21. > :53:27.of his best jumps ever. Just waiting. A new national record. But

:53:27. > :53:31.it will not win the gold medal pinned the long jump. Aleksandr

:53:31. > :53:41.Menkov has one gold medal. Michel Torneus takes the silver medal.

:53:41. > :53:42.

:53:42. > :53:48.Christian Reif takes the bronze France may well get another gold

:53:48. > :53:58.medal in the 60m. We begin our build up by looking back to what

:53:58. > :54:18.

:54:18. > :54:26.United Kingdom national record. She was down in the early part, then

:54:26. > :54:36.she draws away, of running magnificent be. The time confirmed

:54:36. > :54:44.

:54:54. > :55:01.

:55:01. > :55:11.over the second highest ever. Close again. The French man still has one

:55:11. > :55:12.

:55:12. > :55:16.more attempt. That was so close. One more to go for this great

:55:16. > :55:21.French man, the Olympic champion. World champion, European indoor

:55:21. > :55:31.champion once again. Already has achieved the best tight in the

:55:31. > :55:43.

:55:43. > :55:47.world this year. He can go higher. be a foul. What a dramatic climax

:55:47. > :55:56.to the competition. Michel Torneus threw down the gauntlet, but it was

:55:56. > :56:06.just short by a couple of centimetres. 8.29 metres. Christian

:56:06. > :56:22.

:56:23. > :56:27.two. Aleksandr Menkov, longest jump in the world this year. A new

:56:27. > :56:37.national record for the Swedish athlete in front of his home crowd.

:56:37. > :56:47.

:56:47. > :56:51.Chris thomson came 7th. -- collecting her thoughts. Denise?

:56:51. > :56:56.She I have been watching her warm up. She is conserving her energy,

:56:56. > :57:00.visualising what she needs to do for this race. If she can reproduce

:57:00. > :57:06.the start she had in that semi- final to get through to this final,

:57:06. > :57:10.then she is in good shape. We can take a look at that semi-final to

:57:10. > :57:16.see how she qualified for this final. We were impressed with her

:57:16. > :57:22.start, Colin? She is blessed with a natural gift for sprinting, a fluid

:57:22. > :57:28.technique. Watch her arms driving well, her shoulders are relaxed. As

:57:28. > :57:38.she gets closer, watch her grip her hands. Going towards the mean,

:57:38. > :57:39.

:57:39. > :57:44.preparing herself -- the lean. She is blessed with a natural technique.

:57:44. > :57:52.Alone, among her thoughts. The crowd will rise very shortly, to

:57:52. > :57:58.look towards Renaud Lavillenie, he is on the runway, getting ready. We

:57:58. > :58:08.will go to that as soon as he is about to do it.

:58:08. > :58:08.

:58:09. > :58:18.This would put him second on the all-time list. 6.15 is the record,

:58:31. > :58:35.

:58:35. > :58:40.6.06. -- The Olympic champion. Time is counting down now. There was his

:58:40. > :58:44.coach. I sense the pressure maybe on Asha

:58:44. > :58:53.Philip. She should enjoy this environment. Be competitive with

:58:53. > :58:58.the rest of the women, but embrace, sometimes, it can be time to

:58:58. > :59:04.reflect on how you got there. She has worked so hard to get to this

:59:04. > :59:08.level, and rewarded with a final place.

:59:08. > :59:13.DENISE LEWIS: Hernia was completely shattered with an injury. It has

:59:13. > :59:23.been a long road. Here she is. Hopefully she realises this is

:59:23. > :59:36.

:59:36. > :59:41.where she belongs. A talented young PAUL DICKENSON: If this vault is

:59:42. > :59:51.successful, this stadium will go bonkers. Third and final attempt

:59:52. > :00:00.

:00:00. > :00:05.rattle but it stays on! Nobody has ever been higher except the world

:00:05. > :00:12.record holder. But are they adjudging that he held it on with

:00:12. > :00:20.his hand on the way down? We will have to see a replay. That was OK.

:00:20. > :00:30.Did he touch it? I don't think he did. Why has the judge put the red

:00:30. > :00:34.

:00:34. > :00:42.flag up? Lavillenie is mystified. Look at that. Look at that. Well,

:00:42. > :00:46.my understanding is if the bar falls off, it is not a good jump.

:00:46. > :00:51.Maybe I should read the rule book and be certain, but Lavillenie

:00:52. > :00:59.knows the rules. That is for sure. He's absolutely distraught. He's

:00:59. > :01:09.won the gold medal. He's achieved one of the great vaults in history.

:01:09. > :01:09.

:01:09. > :01:19.My goodness, what a dramatic climax to this competition. The rule book

:01:19. > :01:35.

:01:35. > :01:39.of these women in the women's 60m final, Denise?

:01:39. > :01:49.DENISE LEWIS: This happens, this is athletics. They have to get on with

:01:49. > :01:58.the job in hand. Let's get to the commentators.

:01:58. > :02:08.ANDREW COTTER: What atmosphere inside the arena. This is the line-

:02:08. > :02:08.

:02:08. > :02:15.up for the women's 60m final. Tezdzhan Naimova is a controversial

:02:15. > :02:23.character. Has run personal bests in both rounds. Myriam Soumare,

:02:23. > :02:27.7.07 in the semifinal. They have been getting quicker and quicker

:02:27. > :02:33.through the rounds. It's not often the case that all eight have a

:02:33. > :02:40.realistic chance of a medal, but it is the case here. Ivet Lalova, the

:02:40. > :02:47.second Bulgarian in this field. Asha Philip, her zone is a happy

:02:47. > :02:55.dancing zone. Everyone has their own way of dealing with things, but

:02:55. > :03:05.a different approach to that we saw in the semifinals. Verena Sailer,

:03:05. > :03:28.

:03:28. > :03:31.excitement of the pole vault, the noise falls away again to the noise

:03:31. > :03:41.made by the athletes readying themselves for the final of the

:03:41. > :04:08.

:04:08. > :04:15.away quickly, Ryemyen coming through and Naimova as well, so, so

:04:15. > :04:22.close between the Bulgarian and the Ukrainian on either side of Myriam

:04:22. > :04:32.Soumare. But Naimova and Ryemyen, they don't know, we don't know, and

:04:32. > :04:34.

:04:34. > :04:40.the photo will settle it. Ryemyen has fallen. She is getting treated.

:04:40. > :04:45.Naimova and Ryemyen came through and I think we can see in the photo

:04:46. > :04:53.there - Naimova has been given it officially at the moment as 7.10,

:04:53. > :05:00.same time as Mariya Ryemyen. On the photofinish, Asha Philip was in

:05:00. > :05:07.seventh, I think. We will get confirmation of that. She was not

:05:07. > :05:15.up there. Naimova has been given it ahead of Ryemyen, Soumare in third.

:05:15. > :05:21.Naimova, well, a moment for her to celebrate. Here they got away and

:05:21. > :05:29.it was Soumare away quickly. On either side she felt the presence

:05:29. > :05:34.of Ryemyen and Naimova. We thought it was going to be a close final.

:05:34. > :05:40.It was. Soumare, who ran 7.07 in the semifinal, that would have been

:05:40. > :05:45.good enough for the gold here. 7.10 and a photogives it to Tezdzhan

:05:45. > :05:53.Naimova. STEVE CRAM: If I was Ryemyen's

:05:53. > :05:59.coach, I would be saying, "Why did you not dip?" Watch this.

:05:59. > :06:04.Look at Ryemyen, look how Naimova has more of a lead. Ryemyen needs

:06:04. > :06:10.to lean for the line. She loses the gold medal. Colin Jackson will be

:06:10. > :06:17.thinking, "Oh my goodness!" She was in a position to win that. Naimova

:06:17. > :06:23.takes the gold medal with that forward lean. The closest race.

:06:23. > :06:33.6/100ths of a second between first and last.

:06:33. > :06:36.

:06:36. > :06:42.ANDREW COTTER: Asha Philip has done as well as she could have done.

:06:42. > :06:49.Naimova is running as quick now, in fact quicker than she ever has. She

:06:49. > :06:59.is the gold medallist here over 60m. Both 60m finals here, the men's and

:06:59. > :07:07.

:07:07. > :07:12.the women's, have been decided by here and what a moment it was. The

:07:12. > :07:18.moment just a few seconds was for Tezdzhan Naimova with a personal

:07:18. > :07:28.best. She just got it on the photofinish from the non-dipping

:07:28. > :07:33.

:07:34. > :07:37.Mariya Ryemyen. Asha Philip down in Major final, after all you have

:07:37. > :07:45.been through, to equal your personal best, tell me about it.

:07:45. > :07:50.am really happy. I can't complain. To be here, I'm over the moon.

:07:50. > :08:00.can see how close it is, fractions between all of you there? I know.

:08:00. > :08:07.It was a very tight race. You aim for a medal, or a podium position,

:08:07. > :08:10.but I'm upset. I can't complain. The fact I'm here now, I can't

:08:10. > :08:13.complain. That is a great attitude to have. In spite of everything you

:08:13. > :08:19.have been through, you wanted a podium finish. That is what you

:08:19. > :08:24.want in the future? It is. I have been out for so long now. I have

:08:25. > :08:29.had little injuries. I told my cousins it is going to be a long

:08:29. > :08:34.road, but you have to get over it. You have to accept the fact you are

:08:34. > :08:38.injured and you need to come back stronger. You have done yourself

:08:38. > :08:40.real credit. Congratulations? you very much. Hi, family, love you

:08:41. > :08:45.all! JONATHAN EDWARDS: I'm sure they

:08:45. > :08:50.love you too after that. A great performance, Denise? Yes, she can

:08:51. > :08:55.be very proud of herself. She's come here, set a new personal best,

:08:55. > :08:59.or equallyed her personal best. It is a great run -- or equalled her

:08:59. > :09:04.personal best. It is a great run. She could not have envisaged this.

:09:04. > :09:09.She gets out really well. You can't criticise her start. She maintains

:09:09. > :09:15.her form. The other girls have literally raised their game round

:09:15. > :09:24.by round and she's had to live with this. It's a fantastic run. Still a

:09:24. > :09:29.young girl and now her career can really start again. We isolate now

:09:29. > :09:34.on Asha. A lovely smooth start that she has. The encouragement she can

:09:34. > :09:39.take, she was involved in the blanket finish at the European

:09:39. > :09:44.Indoors. 6/100th of a second covered from first to eighth place.

:09:44. > :09:49.That is how tight it was. It is a great turning point for her. The

:09:49. > :09:53.fact that she had a whole set of consistent races and that's very

:09:53. > :09:59.tough at this level, to keep repeating at a very, very high

:09:59. > :10:04.level. She's matured into a senior athlete already. Fantastic!

:10:04. > :10:10.controversy in it, unlike the men's pole vault. Renaud Lavillenie had

:10:10. > :10:16.won this competition with a clearance of 6.01m. He raised the

:10:16. > :10:22.bar to 6.07m. This was his final attempt. We all thought he had got

:10:22. > :10:29.it. He gave it a rattle. This made him the second-highest vaulter of

:10:29. > :10:39.all time. He got a red flag. It ended up, the bar, sitting on top

:10:39. > :10:41.

:10:41. > :10:45.of not the upright, but another part above that. It was incredibly

:10:45. > :10:54.upsetting, Denise? These things can happen. He is clearly devastated.

:10:54. > :11:00.OK. Despite feeling he was hard done to there, he is still the

:11:00. > :11:06.European Indoor Champion. It was really comprehensive. Steve Lewis,

:11:06. > :11:11.a season's best, down in sixth place. He spoke to Phil.

:11:11. > :11:16.Steve, what a competition and a season's best from you, your

:11:16. > :11:21.verdict? Yeah, pretty tough indoor season. So really happy with a

:11:21. > :11:25.season's best. Back-to-back days jumping. I have work to do for the

:11:25. > :11:28.outdoors. I knew that. I'm happy with my result. It's a good

:11:28. > :11:32.reflection of where I'm at right now. It gives you a perfect

:11:32. > :11:36.platform for what is to come? hope so. I was jumping again for

:11:36. > :11:42.the medals, third place, 5.81m would have been there. I can jump

:11:42. > :11:46.that height. I need more confidence, more training. A good competition.

:11:46. > :11:52.Crazy results. The great thing is you were always in the mix. You are

:11:52. > :11:58.always in the mix nowadays? I suppose the next step for you is to

:11:58. > :12:04.get on the podium more regularly? Exactly. 5.80m is the mark to get

:12:04. > :12:07.on to the podium. Then there is another gap between Bjoern Otto and

:12:07. > :12:11.Renaud Lavillenie. I know what I have got to do. I will do more of

:12:11. > :12:16.the same and come back stronger. Talking of Renaud Lavillenie, what

:12:16. > :12:25.is your take on what he has been able to do today and that clearance

:12:25. > :12:28.at 6.07m that wasn't? 6.01m was phenomenal. And then the 6.07m,

:12:28. > :12:33.obviously it's one of those things. If the upright was different, and

:12:33. > :12:40.it wasn't as thick, or it was round, it would have rolled off. As a pole

:12:40. > :12:44.vaulter, you want to see a white flag. It is the rule. It sucks.

:12:44. > :12:49.Explain for those people watching at home why it didn't count.

:12:49. > :12:53.bar on one side jumped off the peg on to the upright, so if the

:12:53. > :12:57.upright was different, it would have rolled off. They deem it -

:12:57. > :13:02.unless the bar stays on the peg itself, they deem it a failure. The

:13:02. > :13:06.probability of that happening is like one in 500 billion! That is a

:13:07. > :13:12.shame for him. Good to see you getting back to the heights we know

:13:12. > :13:17.you are capable of. Thanks, Steve. Thank you.

:13:17. > :13:25.Steve Lewis explaining much more articulately what I tried to do

:13:25. > :13:33.earlier on. Next up is the relay, starting with the women's 4 x 400m.

:13:33. > :13:39.Eilidh Child starts it off, Denise. We have Shana Cox, Christine

:13:39. > :13:49.Ohuruogu comes in at three and Perri Shakes-Drayton in four. So

:13:49. > :14:15.

:14:15. > :14:25.favourites. -- Great Britain at Sweden. Their real strength is in

:14:25. > :14:37.

:14:37. > :14:43.the second leg, with Hjelmer. They Rosolova, the former indoor

:14:43. > :14:52.champion, silver-medallist as a hurdler as well in Europe. She

:14:52. > :15:02.leads them out. Child macro leads Great Britain out.

:15:02. > :15:08.

:15:08. > :15:15.60m. Here she is leading them off.

:15:15. > :15:25.You cream, Zemlyak on the anchor leg. A good team from Russia but

:15:25. > :15:27.

:15:27. > :15:33.just not a vintage team. Ksenia Zadorina is the anchor.

:15:33. > :15:43.The British quartet know that this is the race, if they do everything

:15:43. > :15:47.

:15:47. > :15:51.properly and run to their abilities, the individual. Shana Cox. And

:15:51. > :16:01.Christine Ohuruogu coming in, on the third leg, she does have run

:16:01. > :16:20.

:16:20. > :16:24.three. Denisa Rosolova for the Czech Republic will try to stamp

:16:24. > :16:31.her authority, but Eilidh Child is very strong and it will be credited

:16:31. > :16:37.to hand on the baton if to Shana Cox. Myriam Soumare for France. She

:16:37. > :16:42.is not a 400-metre specialist. She is a 200 metres runner. She must be

:16:42. > :16:49.tired from her efforts in the 60m not so long ago. Eilidh Child is

:16:49. > :16:53.out in front at the moment. STEVE CRAM: This is just what Great

:16:53. > :16:59.Britain would want, leading from the front. The Russians not getting

:16:59. > :17:06.off to a good start. The gold medal should be great Britain's as long

:17:06. > :17:11.as they don't do anything. Shana Cox needs to hold this, she cannot

:17:11. > :17:15.let the Czech team get ahead. Just remember there is a British record

:17:15. > :17:19.set six years ago. This team is good enough if they still have it

:17:19. > :17:26.in their legs. The ease two, as expected,

:17:26. > :17:31.beginning to separate themselves from the rest. The Russians are

:17:32. > :17:36.beginning to drift back slightly. Involved in a tussle with France.

:17:36. > :17:42.At the moment, it is still Shana Cox in front for Great Britain,

:17:42. > :17:49.ahead of the Czech Republic. The Russians are starting to close down

:17:49. > :17:54.been little with the French. They are not out of touch yet.

:17:54. > :17:57.The Russians have Nadezhda Kotliarova. On the third leg. I do

:17:57. > :18:04.not think she will get close to Christine Ohuruogu. She has been

:18:04. > :18:10.waiting in the wings, not here for the individuals. This time, she has

:18:10. > :18:17.started quickly. The Russian moving into second place. France, still in

:18:17. > :18:21.with a shout. Christine needs to kick the pressure on. The Russians

:18:21. > :18:26.are closing. Their best run it is on the last leg, Kseniya Ustalova

:18:26. > :18:35.did not make it, the individual number one, she felt in the

:18:35. > :18:40.individual event. They still have Ksenia Zadorina it in the last leg.

:18:40. > :18:47.Christine Ohuruogu it is a strong finisher outdoors in the 400m. A

:18:47. > :18:50.very good leg for Russia for Nadezhda Kotliarova. Handing over

:18:50. > :18:56.to Perri Shakes-Drayton. It should be down to the individual champion

:18:56. > :19:01.to take Great Britain home. She will be chased hard by Ksenia

:19:01. > :19:04.Zadorina from Russia. France a run Byrd, Czech Republic in 4th place.

:19:04. > :19:10.Perri Shakes-Drayton is out in front at the moment, looking strong

:19:10. > :19:16.enough as they come down to one lap to go. Ksenia Zadorina tried to get

:19:16. > :19:21.in touch, as the bell sounds. Shakes-Drayton, the individual

:19:21. > :19:27.champion, the British record up for grabs. The gold medal is their

:19:27. > :19:32.priority. Perri Shakes-Drayton, it still clear of the Russian who is

:19:32. > :19:37.holding on. Perri Shakes-Drayton should have the strength, should

:19:37. > :19:47.have the class to bring this home for Great Britain. Their first

:19:47. > :19:47.

:19:47. > :19:54.victory in the women's 4x400. This is a new British record for this

:19:54. > :20:01.quartet. Perri Shakes-Drayton did what she knew she could do, we all

:20:01. > :20:08.knew she would do. Christine Ohuruogu, Shana Cox, Eilidh Child

:20:08. > :20:18.will join them soon. The British indoor record holders in the 4x400

:20:18. > :20:30.

:20:30. > :20:40.expect, 51.2 on that final leg. That British record team in to 1006

:20:40. > :20:43.

:20:43. > :20:47.had Nicola Sanderson in it, lee mcconnell -- Lee McConnell. It was

:20:47. > :20:51.a question of whether they still had it in their legs. Perri Shakes-

:20:51. > :20:57.Drayton was put under some pressure on that last leg, Christine

:20:57. > :21:07.Ohuruogu gave hurried good few yards. Ksenia Zadorina was a fresh,

:21:07. > :21:13.and it was important that Great Britain was given a few metres.

:21:13. > :21:18.Christine bided her time well. Giving some clear air to Perri

:21:18. > :21:24.Shakes-Drayton. That meant Ksenia Zadorina had to attack in the first

:21:24. > :21:28.200 metres. Perri could not sit back. The Russian makes up the

:21:28. > :21:33.ground quickly. By doing that, she has expended more energy which will

:21:33. > :21:39.come into play it in the last 60m. Perri Shakes-Drayton it is relaxed,

:21:39. > :21:43.we have seen that all weekend, look at that form. You wouldn't think

:21:43. > :21:47.she had run so quickly, under 51 seconds, earlier today. She knows

:21:47. > :21:54.the Russian will be trying to get onto her shoulder. Keeping the

:21:54. > :22:00.pressure on. Don't let it slacked off. From the bend, you want to use

:22:00. > :22:05.the momentum into the home straight. There was no challenge. Perri

:22:05. > :22:11.Shakes-Drayton, clear up and away, and a British record to go with a

:22:11. > :22:16.fantastic gold medal. A very good run by Zuzana Hejnova,

:22:16. > :22:20.for the Czech Republic, to take the bronze medal. It is all about his

:22:20. > :22:30.quartet. Not only taking the gold medal but that British record. We

:22:30. > :22:48.

:22:48. > :22:52.knew it was a very talented quartet. A super performance from the

:22:52. > :22:59.British quartet. We expected them to win. The British record is a

:22:59. > :23:06.bonus. As you said, we expected them to

:23:06. > :23:11.win. Perri has been in supreme form. To add Christine Ohuruogu into that

:23:11. > :23:16.quartet was a great mood. She is clearly setting the race up for

:23:16. > :23:20.Perri, not to Coast, she had to control it. And she did that. A new

:23:20. > :23:25.British record, fantastic performance.

:23:25. > :23:30.The Russians made them think, Colin. But Eilidh Child set them up right

:23:30. > :23:34.from the start. It is important to get a strong, confident start. Her

:23:34. > :23:39.new-found confidence has made a difference. She took it to

:23:39. > :23:44.everybody. Having is of a medal from this javelin ships says, I am

:23:44. > :23:50.the second best 400m runner in these have championships. And,

:23:50. > :23:55.guess who is the first? She is in our last leg.

:23:55. > :23:58.DENISE LEWIS: Shana Cox run extremely well. There was some

:23:59. > :24:03.question whether she should be in, she just about made it into that

:24:03. > :24:08.400m final, but she ran really well and justified her position.

:24:08. > :24:14.There was quite a bit of top, we anticipated Margaret Adeoye might

:24:14. > :24:19.come in, she has been in good form. As you say, Shana Cox has shown a

:24:19. > :24:23.lot of grit. If she did indeed. These girls know each other, they

:24:23. > :24:27.rely on each other and trust each other. If it is a question of

:24:27. > :24:32.raising their game, you know she is going to do that. If we have talked

:24:32. > :24:41.about the strength of this women's team. They have all made finals.

:24:41. > :24:46.Speaking of gold medals. Denise is really happy about that. It has

:24:46. > :24:51.been a fantastic championships for our women. It is wonderful to see.

:24:51. > :24:57.One thing Jenny Meadows said when she was here, she was passing on

:24:58. > :25:05.advice and knowledge. Throwing those flowers to the men in the

:25:05. > :25:09.team. It is a nice thing for them. It shows the team spirit which is

:25:09. > :25:15.held be. They have a lot of confidence. The team is young, they

:25:15. > :25:20.are moving forward. From the time when we were involved, there is a

:25:20. > :25:27.much stronger sense of unity now, lottery funding has brought that

:25:27. > :25:31.centralisation of training places. It has made a difference. Yes. It

:25:31. > :25:35.is self-belief, everyone wants to be part of that success. Those who

:25:35. > :25:40.missed out last year are looking at how they need to improve. We're in

:25:40. > :25:45.a healthy position, British Athletics. Everyone wants to ride

:25:45. > :25:50.on the back of that. Gold medal for the women. And a British record. I

:25:50. > :25:57.am sure watching that keenly worthy male quartet, we have three men in

:25:57. > :26:04.the final of the 400m. Richard Strachan is on the last leg. Nigel

:26:04. > :26:11.Levine, number three. Richard Buck runs second. Michael Bingham is on

:26:11. > :26:16.the first leg. Colin, again, we should be looking at a gold medal?

:26:16. > :26:26.Yes, it is going to be tough, as we always know. The men will be very

:26:26. > :26:27.

:26:27. > :26:30.competitive. We can guarantee that in the men's 4x4. But that they

:26:30. > :26:34.will be inspired by the women's team. They have seen what they have

:26:34. > :26:39.done. The men will believe in themselves, we have had a great

:26:39. > :26:45.tradition. As you say, it is a sense of running for each other.

:26:46. > :26:50.And pushing each other on which is what makes this team magical.

:26:50. > :26:54.of the Borlee brothers running for the Belgian team, interesting they

:26:54. > :27:04.chose not to run individually. of them has not been in great shape.

:27:04. > :27:09.I think we should expect the Czech Republic to be strong, Russia. I am

:27:09. > :27:18.hoping... The men's race will be fierce and aggressive. Let's hope

:27:18. > :27:22.they do well. Chat position is very important. With the likes of Pavel

:27:22. > :27:27.Maslak and Trenikhin, if they are in contact, they will run people

:27:27. > :27:31.down. That's what makes them dangers. We don't have the luxury

:27:31. > :27:34.of someone being closer to someone like Pavel Maslak. He has the

:27:34. > :27:41.opportunity to run anybody down because his time is so strong, and

:27:42. > :27:45.he is full of confidence. The pressure is on. The pressure is on

:27:45. > :27:50.Michael Bingham to get the team off to a solid start, that will be

:27:50. > :28:00.vital for this team. But they will give it some, you can guarantee

:28:00. > :28:09.

:28:09. > :28:14.that. They will work hard for the - commentary position for this one.

:28:14. > :28:19.Thank you, Jonathan. What an exciting climax to the whole

:28:19. > :28:25.weekend. A great run from the women, can the men follow suit? Russia

:28:25. > :28:33.will be their big rivals. Belgian, weakened by the injury to Jonathan

:28:33. > :28:38.Borlee. Poland, Sweden, Czech Republic will be competing with

:28:38. > :28:43.Belgium for the bronze, I think. It is between Britain and Russia. The

:28:43. > :28:48.British team we talked about, Michael Bingham will lead them off.

:28:48. > :28:58.Richard Buck, Nigel Levine, Richard Strachan. Let us go through them

:28:58. > :29:07.

:29:07. > :29:13.Czech Republic. Pavel Maslak could Dragan into a medal.

:29:13. > :29:18.Sweden, in the past, they have done reasonably well. If familiar name

:29:18. > :29:22.to fans, Johan Wissman, going on the third leg, making the

:29:22. > :29:28.transition from 200 metres. Poland, in years gone by, have had a great

:29:28. > :29:35.team, but not this one. Adam Kszczot who might have gone into

:29:35. > :29:45.this team, is not in there. Belgium definitely would have been a

:29:45. > :30:02.

:30:02. > :30:08.Russian team in a second. There's Pavel Trenikhin. He was

:30:08. > :30:18.disqualified and then he was reinstated so he is the bronze

:30:18. > :30:32.

:30:32. > :30:38.medallist and he has been given the Strachan - I think he needs a

:30:38. > :30:48.decent lead. If Krasnov is on his shoulder, it will be to their

:30:48. > :30:58.advantage. The British women are watching this. They are hoping the

:30:58. > :31:08.

:31:08. > :31:14.take control of this race early, just as Eilidh Child did. Trenikhin

:31:14. > :31:19.hasn't started particularly fast here. Poland have started very

:31:19. > :31:24.quickly. The Czech Republic on the inside. Bingham might get across

:31:24. > :31:28.here. So Great Britain are where they want to be. Trenikhin will try

:31:28. > :31:32.and attack. He wasn't in such good shape in the individual. Now he

:31:32. > :31:36.tries to go past Bingham and manages to do so. Russia taking the

:31:36. > :31:40.advantage early. Bingham has to hang on to him.

:31:40. > :31:50.Trenikhin is starting to flap a little bit. This is a handsome lead

:31:50. > :31:53.

:31:53. > :31:59.that Russia has built. He hands over to Trambovetskiy. There may be

:31:59. > :32:06.some trouble here for the British quartet as Richard Buck headed

:32:06. > :32:13.towards the infield area. The Pole came across, so Richard Buck found

:32:13. > :32:18.himself on the infield. Then Kevin Borlee came past him. He is looking

:32:18. > :32:27.to strike for Belgium. Russia still in the lead. Belgium in second.

:32:27. > :32:30.Buck trying to get Britain involved here. Borlee is on the shoulder of

:32:30. > :32:37.Trambovetskiy who is dying down the home straight! A wonderful effort

:32:37. > :32:42.for Belgium. Now Gillet takes it out. This is between Russia and

:32:42. > :32:51.Great Britain, believe me. That was their worst runner on the second

:32:51. > :32:56.leg. Now, they just manage to hold the advantage. Nigel Levine has to

:32:56. > :33:01.be patient here. Levine needs to attack here. He will want to give

:33:01. > :33:08.Richard Strachan the lead so he can control the second leg, sorry the

:33:08. > :33:15.last leg. Levine takes it on. Russia hanging on but we need a

:33:15. > :33:20.good lead here because Krasnov will attack on the last leg. This is

:33:20. > :33:30.brilliant leg. Strachan have the baton. Russia are second. Is that

:33:30. > :33:31.

:33:31. > :33:35.lead too much for Krasnov? Strachan has to go hard. He doesn't need to

:33:35. > :33:40.go too hard! There was a bit of pushing and shoving behind the

:33:40. > :33:45.Russian. Strachan's got this, surely. Great Britain miles ahead.

:33:45. > :33:50.This is good running from the team. Krasnov is pulling away from those

:33:50. > :33:56.behind him. He has the man who won the individual gold medal hunting

:33:56. > :34:00.him down for a medal. So Maslak is trying to take silver. It is all

:34:01. > :34:06.about Great Britain. Richard Strachan bringing it home! Great

:34:06. > :34:12.Britain get the gold. Russia hang on for silver. Poland once more in

:34:12. > :34:17.the medals. Maslak couldn't work his magic. Never in doubt, really,

:34:17. > :34:26.after Nigel Levine's leg. It was a brilliant run by Levine. He did

:34:26. > :34:32.well. That's been reflected in the times I have been handed. 47.1 for

:34:32. > :34:37.Bingham. 46.3 for Buck. The Polish athlete comes across. Richard gives

:34:37. > :34:42.him a nudge to say, "I'm here." Two steps on the - one step on the

:34:42. > :34:49.inside. Well, he was pushed there, he didn't decide to go there. So it

:34:49. > :34:52.would be harsh if there was any disqualification suggested. Let's

:34:52. > :35:02.have another look at this. Andrew, we expect pushing and shoving.

:35:02. > :35:04.

:35:04. > :35:09.Watch this. The Pole comes across hard. He did well to maintain some

:35:09. > :35:14.momentum. He did very well. We have seen disqualifications during this

:35:14. > :35:21.meeting for getting out of position. This is another look at it. It is

:35:21. > :35:25.the Pole on the second leg Omelko coming across. That will be the

:35:25. > :35:30.mitigating circumstances for Richard Buck. One full step on the

:35:30. > :35:36.infield. He did well to recover from that position to run a decent

:35:36. > :35:41.time. Britain have the gold medal at the moment. To finish off, Nigel

:35:41. > :35:45.Levine ran 45.8 and 46.5 for Richard Strachan. Gold for the men

:35:45. > :35:48.and it was gold for the women a few minutes ago. They were watching all

:35:48. > :35:52.minutes ago. They were watching all of that. They are with Phil. They

:35:52. > :35:56.have shared in all the excitement with us down attractside. What a

:35:56. > :36:00.day you have had? Yeah, it's been a great day. It was tough coming back

:36:00. > :36:06.tonight and having to put in a performance. I am delighted we came

:36:06. > :36:11.out with the gold. You led the team out marvellously well. Perri,

:36:11. > :36:15.double European Champion, how does that sound? I have had a very good

:36:15. > :36:21.day! We all wanted it for each other. So we went out there and

:36:21. > :36:24.gave it all we could. We are all going home with a gold! Perri is

:36:24. > :36:33.used to delivering as a favourite and you are used to that yourself.

:36:33. > :36:38.You have done it again? These girls, they did phenomenally well to run

:36:38. > :36:45.three fours and an extra 400m for the relay. Everyone is so tired but

:36:45. > :36:50.to come back and give it one final effort. Everybody managed to keep

:36:50. > :36:54.the lead. I think I am really proud of them. What about that lap of

:36:54. > :36:59.honour, when you have the flag draped around you? What goes

:36:59. > :37:04.through your mind? It felt good. It is always positive when you go

:37:04. > :37:08.through a long three days and end on a good note like that. Everybody

:37:08. > :37:12.worked very hard. Proud of everybody and relief. We are

:37:12. > :37:17.hearing that GB men have been disqualified. We were talking about

:37:17. > :37:22.the potential for Richard stepping on the track. That's a

:37:22. > :37:27.disqualification, unless you have been nudged? He seemed to be

:37:27. > :37:31.nudged? From what I saw, he was pushed out. He lost balance, he

:37:31. > :37:35.went out of the lane with one leg and recovered quickly enough to get

:37:35. > :37:45.back in lane. I'm surprised they have done that. It is a harsh call.

:37:45. > :37:49.

:37:49. > :37:53.I don't think it was his fault. Hopefully, there will be a counter-

:37:54. > :37:59.protest! A gold medal, girls, well done.

:37:59. > :38:05.JONATHAN EDWARDS: Peter Eriksson has joined us. Sorry you have been

:38:05. > :38:09.thrust at the deep end. What is your reaction? It was pretty

:38:09. > :38:13.obvious that he had nowhere to go, Richard, he took one step inside,

:38:13. > :38:18.which was the same thing that happened in the 400m, but the

:38:18. > :38:21.Russian guy did the same thing and then later got reinstated. We can

:38:21. > :38:27.then later got reinstated. We can have a look now. Michael Bingham

:38:27. > :38:33.coming in. It is the Polish athlete who comes across. As you say, he

:38:33. > :38:38.didn't have much choice, did he? he had the lane on the inside. So

:38:38. > :38:43.he was in the right and he took one step inside. That was the same

:38:43. > :38:47.thing that happened in the 400m final. The Russian guy got

:38:47. > :38:51.disqualified first and reinstated. I don't see a difference on

:38:52. > :38:59.judgment on this one. You were on the phone before we came back to

:38:59. > :39:04.the studio, obviously putting in an appeal? The whole thing has been

:39:04. > :39:07.filmed, so we have it on our own video, they are making sure the

:39:07. > :39:11.protest goes in against this. This would not be right. We will keep

:39:11. > :39:15.across any developments regarding the men's team. This has been your

:39:15. > :39:19.first taste of Championships athletics as the head coach. How do

:39:19. > :39:22.you feel it's gone? It's been really good. If you look at the

:39:22. > :39:27.team we had, we had all of the women went to the final. We had

:39:27. > :39:30.only three guys that didn't. I think that is a great outcome of

:39:30. > :39:36.the selection we had to achieve the goal on having all the athletes

:39:36. > :39:40.selected going to the final. That was the goal. I think you can see

:39:40. > :39:43.personal bests, so the team have done great. It is a young team and

:39:43. > :39:47.the beginning of an Olympic cycle. Some athletes a bit of a hangover

:39:47. > :39:52.from the Games, others with something to prove. It's been a

:39:52. > :39:56.good start to this next four-year programme? Yes. We have a really

:39:56. > :40:00.good team. We have a very good coaching support team that support

:40:00. > :40:06.all of the athletes to get to the right point. You can see how well

:40:06. > :40:11.they work together here. It's been fantastic. We had Jenny Meadows up

:40:11. > :40:15.here, she spoke articulately about the atmosphere within the team, the

:40:15. > :40:25.way you are all supporting each other and the new approach that you

:40:25. > :40:26.

:40:26. > :40:31.have brought in compared to Charles van Commenee? She has been

:40:31. > :40:35.fantastic. Her coach made sure she eat the right meatballs to get to

:40:35. > :40:41.the start line! She has been doing really well. She's consistent

:40:41. > :40:44.throughout three rounds in running 800m. Give her a few more months,

:40:44. > :40:49.she will be back to where she was before. We are going to head on to

:40:49. > :40:52.the track, the British men's 4 x 400m relay team are still

:40:52. > :40:55.celebrating. I think they still believe that they have won the gold

:40:55. > :41:01.medal. Whether they have been told they have been disqualified and

:41:01. > :41:08.they think it is going to be fine, I don't know. You thought somebody

:41:08. > :41:13.might have told them by now? don't know. They haven't done much

:41:13. > :41:18.wrong. Richard Buck - I hope they don't lose that medal. They are

:41:19. > :41:23.about to find out from Phil. I have broken the news to the guys.

:41:23. > :41:28.You were celebrating coming off. You have been disqualified for

:41:28. > :41:32.coming off the track. You appeared to be nudged off the track, so

:41:32. > :41:39.there was very little you could do? It is the Polish guy who knocked me

:41:39. > :41:43.in. I tried to stay on, but I had to drop out wide. We can show it to

:41:43. > :41:50.you. You can have a look and see what happened. There is not much

:41:50. > :41:55.place to go. How many steps was it? One? Here we go. Let's see. The

:41:55. > :42:05.Polish guy comes across. And then right here - there's the nudge.

:42:05. > :42:08.

:42:08. > :42:15.Really, you have... Look! It is one step. It is a DQ? It is a DQ if you

:42:15. > :42:19.do it of your own volition. That is a blatant push, right? The guy cut

:42:19. > :42:24.in. He wasn't running a normal course. That is not normal running.

:42:24. > :42:30.Now, I suppose there is a case of the British team putting in a

:42:30. > :42:35.counter-protest? Yes, the thing is, if the race was really close, and

:42:35. > :42:40.we made a mistake, but we won the race by quite a distance in the end.

:42:40. > :42:46.Really, I think, if the Russian team, or the Polish team came off

:42:46. > :42:50.the track, personally, although they would be disqualified as well,

:42:50. > :42:56.they were rightfully the gold medal winners. Hopefully, we will get

:42:56. > :43:01.that ourselves. Let's hope so. I feel terrible for bursting your

:43:01. > :43:04.bubble. These things happen in 400m indoors. There we go. Thank you

:43:04. > :43:09.very much. Thank you. There's a possibility we may not

:43:09. > :43:14.know the result of that before we go off air. If that is the case, it

:43:14. > :43:21.will be on the BBC website. Let's look at the medal table and see how

:43:21. > :43:27.the British team have done. Peter, you made a point of not making any

:43:27. > :43:34.medal predictions. This is our own predictions. We will see the other

:43:34. > :43:41.medal table shortly. Eight medals in total. Nobody got it right.

:43:41. > :43:45.Denise, Steve and Colin circled it. Paula Radcliffe was over the top!

:43:45. > :43:52.You didn't make any medal predictions. You come away with

:43:52. > :43:56.eight. We can see it there, at the moment sitting in third place. It

:43:56. > :44:02.doesn't include the last race. You must be content with that?

:44:02. > :44:08.happy. The goal was to do better and to do our best. The change in

:44:08. > :44:11.this relay, we would have one more gold than we had last time. So I

:44:11. > :44:16.think we should be happy as a team with this. It is the start of the

:44:16. > :44:21.year and the start of a new era and a new team. It looks great to me.

:44:21. > :44:25.bit of a word, Colin, about Perri Shakes-Drayton. She has come away

:44:25. > :44:30.with a couple of gold medals? Outstanding performance. After what

:44:30. > :44:35.happened to her at the Olympic Games when she had a sore hamstring,

:44:35. > :44:38.she's come here and changed everybody's opinion of her.

:44:38. > :44:43.other individual gold medal, Denise, was from Holly Bleasdale. She came

:44:43. > :44:48.in as favourite and delivered? did. It was a great performance

:44:48. > :44:55.from her. Completely raised her game. Her attitude was great in the

:44:55. > :44:59.jump-off. OK. Good news and in perfect time, the British men's 4 x

:44:59. > :45:05.400m relay team have been reinstated, which is great news!

:45:05. > :45:10.That is it from Gothenburg. Overall, a very encourage perTor mance from

:45:10. > :45:13.the British team and for -- performance from the British team

:45:13. > :45:22.and for Perri Shakes-Drayton, two gold medals in one day, it is not

:45:22. > :45:29.bad. Thanks for your company. Goodbye. Holly Bleasdale is the

:45:29. > :45:37.champion! Dasaolu takes the silver. Mukhtar

:45:37. > :45:47.Mohammed coming through to take the bronze! Running out of lane there.

:45:47. > :45:52.
