:00:50. > :00:58.What a performance from Katarina Johnson Thompson. She wins the Gold

:00:59. > :01:03.Medal. Determined and fast. It is a new world indoor record! Christy

:01:04. > :01:13.storming through, and he gets the gold. On his way to gold, surely. He

:01:14. > :01:18.has won it all the way. A new world indoor record. She should have the

:01:19. > :01:29.class to bring this home for Great Britain. Sebastian Coe will have a

:01:30. > :01:36.remarkable record. Well done, Jason Gardner, four European indoor

:01:37. > :01:42.titles. She has done it. Bleasdale is the champion. Jackson wins it.

:01:43. > :01:49.The new European in. Sally Gunnell coming through for a brilliant

:01:50. > :01:55.victory. Richard Kilty is already moving away. Gold for Britain.

:01:56. > :02:00.Bringing it home, Great Britain get the gold. Running towards his first

:02:01. > :02:09.title, it is gold for Mo Farah of Great Britain. Hello, good afternoon

:02:10. > :02:13.and welcome to the European Indoor Championships from the Serbian

:02:14. > :02:17.capital, Belgrade. The 14th running of these championships, and we got

:02:18. > :02:21.underway this morning. Three packed days of action from a place which

:02:22. > :02:25.knows its athletics pretty well and as you have just seen, a

:02:26. > :02:30.Championships in which Great Britain has a wonderful history of winning

:02:31. > :02:35.medals. It is a beautiful almost summer day, I hesitate to say is

:02:36. > :02:41.spring. It is edging towards 19 degrees. We are sitting warm inside.

:02:42. > :02:46.This is our home for the next three days. It is a little bit busy down

:02:47. > :02:50.there already. It holds 20,000, apparently. There were not 20,000

:02:51. > :02:56.this morning but we're hoping it will fill up. The big hero here is

:02:57. > :03:00.in the long jump on Sunday. Maybe if she wins a Gold Medal we will hear

:03:01. > :03:07.the roof raised by what we hope will be a big crowd. As I said, we were

:03:08. > :03:13.on air this morning and you may have seen some of the action. Now on, we

:03:14. > :03:18.are on BBC Two this afternoon. Coverage of the main action starting

:03:19. > :03:23.at 3:30pm. This morning, we should have had the 60 metres hurdles for

:03:24. > :03:27.men. The first round was taken up so we will be catching up with that

:03:28. > :03:36.just after 4:30pm. That is what we are doing this afternoon. Tomorrow

:03:37. > :03:42.it is an early start. 8:30am. Another full day, with two sessions,

:03:43. > :03:46.live coverage through the weekend. We had plenty of talking points this

:03:47. > :03:50.morning. The usual way to get in touch if you want to join in. We had

:03:51. > :03:55.one or two interesting talking points and our team are with us

:03:56. > :04:00.again. Denise Lewis and Tony and Paula. We have 30 minutes, so we

:04:01. > :04:04.thought we would look back on the best action from this morning,

:04:05. > :04:09.starting with the 400 metres. Lina Nielsen was not here, but her twin

:04:10. > :04:30.and a leashed oil were representing us in the first round.

:04:31. > :04:38.Nielsen will want to attack hard here. We have talked about the track

:04:39. > :04:45.that she will have to content with. Out in lane six, every opportunity

:04:46. > :04:51.to do so. Nielsen, as she goes around the bend will need to pick it

:04:52. > :05:00.up. She has every chance of leading this. Nielsen comes across, a good

:05:01. > :05:03.piece of mature running. Much slower than in Birmingham. Look at her

:05:04. > :05:09.stretching down the back straight, putting pressure on the others. The

:05:10. > :05:13.Spanish athlete trying to move into second, but it is Nielsen, 20 years

:05:14. > :05:18.old from Great Britain, stretching away from the field. The top two

:05:19. > :05:22.will qualify. She is looking good and strong, with daylight between

:05:23. > :05:29.her and the rest. There is a good scrap for second. That was a good

:05:30. > :05:33.piece of mature running from the youngster. She got out nice and

:05:34. > :05:38.steady, didn't panic on the first lap. She had a good lane draw and

:05:39. > :05:42.could watch everybody else. She moved across nicely and put the

:05:43. > :05:47.pressure on down the back straight. She got out in front and was able to

:05:48. > :05:54.cruise over the last 30 or 40 metres. Well done. At this event is

:05:55. > :05:59.tinged with disappointment because your twin sister had to pull out.

:06:00. > :06:06.How is she and how has it affected you? We were both gutted. There were

:06:07. > :06:10.tears on Wednesday. She realised she might have to pull out. We had hope

:06:11. > :06:14.until last night and last night she decided to pull out because the rest

:06:15. > :06:20.of the year is really important. She is gutted but I am flying the flag

:06:21. > :06:22.for both of us. You did well there. We wish you well for the semifinals

:06:23. > :06:35.later. A real shame for her sister, but

:06:36. > :06:37.that was a wonderful performance and winning your heat guarantees a good

:06:38. > :07:08.lane in the semifinals later today. Away this time, and Doyle on the far

:07:09. > :07:13.outside with the Polish athlete in lane five. Pretty even at the

:07:14. > :07:20.moment. Who will get the lead at the break, often so important? The

:07:21. > :07:25.Polish athlete with a little advantage as the bend unravels.

:07:26. > :07:35.Doyle accelerates a little and takes the lead. Doyle is out in front. Two

:07:36. > :07:44.go through automatically and six fastest losers. Doyle is in pole

:07:45. > :07:48.position at the moment. She is not able to break away at the moment,

:07:49. > :07:53.but in control. She knows where she is. She opens up just a couple of

:07:54. > :08:04.metres, and she will take the victory and go through. She

:08:05. > :08:15.looked comfortable enough, Doyle, in going through. Yes, it is

:08:16. > :08:20.interesting. It looked like a good controlled run, and then you see the

:08:21. > :08:27.clock stops at 53.2 eight. Maybe the track is a little slow and bouncy.

:08:28. > :08:30.Colin has something to say. The inside lane seems very tight so a

:08:31. > :08:35.lot of the time cannot generate enough speed so they are checking

:08:36. > :08:40.their stride more than normal. That is causing problems with the time.

:08:41. > :08:45.You can imagine when you are fatigued, the stride length really

:08:46. > :08:51.shortens. It is more staccato. That is why the times could be a little

:08:52. > :08:56.slow. Not every indoor track is the same, not only in terms of surface,

:08:57. > :09:01.but in terms of how tight it is. That inside lane is particularly

:09:02. > :09:07.tight, so the times are down. But she looked good. It is controlled.

:09:08. > :09:14.No one really likes the heats, and you have to run hard, but that

:09:15. > :09:19.looked a comfortable run. What are the preparations between now and the

:09:20. > :09:24.semifinal? Recover, get some food, a mass side, hopefully some sleep, and

:09:25. > :09:28.come back later. Let me ask you about coming in third on the

:09:29. > :09:35.European list. Does it have any bearing at an event like this? Not

:09:36. > :09:38.really. In doors, it is so tactical, sometimes times don't matter, it is

:09:39. > :09:44.about running the right race at the right time. I have been used to the

:09:45. > :09:46.pressure, so it feels a bit nicer coming in ranked number three. Well

:09:47. > :10:08.done this morning. Those two safely through. Just to

:10:09. > :10:14.say, in the arena behind us, the opening ceremony is getting

:10:15. > :10:18.underway. The President of the European athletics Association is up

:10:19. > :10:21.on the podium and the speeches are underway. We will be respectful but

:10:22. > :10:27.we will carry on talking about this morning. Denise, first of all, she

:10:28. > :10:31.is a great talent but sometimes youngsters when they come, first

:10:32. > :10:35.time in the spotlight they can not necessarily freeze but they can

:10:36. > :10:41.struggle. She ran so sure Ridley this morning. Didn't she just? I

:10:42. > :10:46.loved particularly coming off the first bend, we have seen a lot of

:10:47. > :10:49.hustle and bustle, but she was in control, knew exactly what she

:10:50. > :10:55.needed to do, be out in front at the bell. That is crucial to a good 400

:10:56. > :10:59.metres. She has done really well. She has come off two personal bests,

:11:00. > :11:05.socially is losing in confidence and that was demonstrated today. Doyle,

:11:06. > :11:11.other end of the scale in terms of experience. I thought she looked

:11:12. > :11:14.good. She looked as if she ran the first 150 metres controlled and then

:11:15. > :11:18.had a look inside and accelerated down the hill and into the break and

:11:19. > :11:25.got to the bell first, as you should do. It looked like a simple tick box

:11:26. > :11:31.exercise, win the heat, get through and get the lane draw for the semis.

:11:32. > :11:36.By contrast, in the middle there was another heat which was the opposite.

:11:37. > :11:40.The drawers, as ever in the first round, there was one tough heat and

:11:41. > :11:48.a little bit of argy-bargy. That is a look. It involved the French

:11:49. > :11:53.athlete and the athlete from the Czech Republic. At the end of the

:11:54. > :11:57.first lap they were breaking. I thought she gave her a shoulder

:11:58. > :12:04.charge. She stood on the curb and went crashing down. She was

:12:05. > :12:09.originally disqualified. We can't really see from that angle.

:12:10. > :12:15.Beginning with you, Denise, she has been reinstated. Comment on that. It

:12:16. > :12:22.was tough. It was almost a concertina effect. One into the

:12:23. > :12:25.other, into the other. I thought she came in quite hard, quite severely.

:12:26. > :12:30.We know there can be a lot of pushing at that point but I think it

:12:31. > :12:39.was right that she was disqualified. To be reinstated is a big call.

:12:40. > :12:54.At that point, she should have eased back because there was no room. She

:12:55. > :12:58.pushed out of the way. The French appealed and she has been

:12:59. > :13:02.reinstated. We know that the French do like to appeal. I know she is one

:13:03. > :13:08.of the favourites, let's put it that way. They know there is a strong

:13:09. > :13:15.medal case for her. It is tough, but she is in. What can we do? She is in

:13:16. > :13:18.the same semifinal as Nielsen, and she has been given a good lane,

:13:19. > :13:24.socially is very lucky, if you ask me. We look forward to the

:13:25. > :13:26.semifinals. Paula, we are going to look at our only representative in

:13:27. > :13:58.the women's 800 metres this morning. The Ukrainian in lane five will be

:13:59. > :14:03.the big threat. The top two go through so it is not easy but she

:14:04. > :14:07.should be OK, Paula. She is wanting to control this, which is not bad.

:14:08. > :14:12.She talked about wanting a good rhythm. Yes, even if it was slowly

:14:13. > :14:16.she wanted to be at the front, out of trouble and able to respond as

:14:17. > :14:23.the danger comes round. The danger is sitting right on her shoulder

:14:24. > :14:26.now. As we said earlier, that time in Birmingham did put her confidence

:14:27. > :14:31.where it should have been from the training. Frustration was starting

:14:32. > :14:34.to come in because she was not seeing the training translate into

:14:35. > :14:40.racing. Hopefully she will move on with that here. A nice, steady pace,

:14:41. > :14:47.just under 30 seconds or the first 200 metres. It looks to have settled

:14:48. > :14:52.down a bit slower than that. At 400, probably around 61. A bit slower

:14:53. > :14:58.than that. She is where she wants to be. She is in control. What she now

:14:59. > :15:04.needs to do is to start to stretch them a little bit, not get surprised

:15:05. > :15:07.by anybody. Exactly. She needs to be ready because the danger will

:15:08. > :15:12.Cumbrae fast and she needs to be able to respond. Sometimes when you

:15:13. > :15:17.go out and the pace slows, you can settle into the river man find it

:15:18. > :15:22.hard to raise the pace and react as the girls come past. She left the

:15:23. > :15:28.gap on the inside. One or two of these are 400 specialists. She needs

:15:29. > :15:33.to be careful. She is just stretching out at the front. The

:15:34. > :15:35.attack comes on the outside and she has to respond and hold the inside,

:15:36. > :15:46.and she does it well. Shelayna Oskan-Clarke has got to

:15:47. > :15:54.work to the line. Lyakhova might be run out of this here. One of the big

:15:55. > :16:01.favourites will not go through by rights. Velvere a surprise package

:16:02. > :16:02.there. She goes through with a very, very confident performance from

:16:03. > :16:14.Shelayna Oskan-Clarke. It was one of those races where had

:16:15. > :16:18.it gone wrong, it was very slow, but she ran it perfectly well. She did.

:16:19. > :16:22.She looked nervous on the start line. I think that was a little bit

:16:23. > :16:26.reflected. She looked a bit heavy legged, as if she was burdened by

:16:27. > :16:29.that desire to make it through to the next round that. Will have done

:16:30. > :16:33.her a lot of good, how she controlled the race. The way she was

:16:34. > :16:37.almost expecting Lyakhova to challenge her. Lyakhova didn't look

:16:38. > :16:42.good at all and went out. Velvere was the close toast her. It was --

:16:43. > :16:45.closest to her. Even though slow, she was able to hold off the

:16:46. > :16:52.challenges. She's looking more confident. Without getting too far

:16:53. > :16:55.ahead of ourselves. Lyakhova is out, the number one ranked European

:16:56. > :17:05.athlete didn't turn up. She's got a great chance. She has. She looked

:17:06. > :17:15.stunny. -- stunning. She looked good. In terms of one to watch, Kyle

:17:16. > :17:18.Langford is one of our most talented youngsters. He gave us a fright in

:17:19. > :17:24.his qualifying round. This is Kyle before the race. Paula, we can talk

:17:25. > :17:28.through this here. He sometimes, you know, he's such a talent. He's got

:17:29. > :17:31.pace and so much ability, but he has to learn even in the heats of the

:17:32. > :17:36.European indoors, you've got to be on the case. He has to learn that he

:17:37. > :17:41.has to be able to think and process more than one thing happening around

:17:42. > :17:47.him and react to it quickly. Here he got himself into trouble so many

:17:48. > :17:53.times in this race. At the end, he was sprinting the last 100 metres.

:17:54. > :17:58.He just needs to be able to not rely on his talent. It's OK at European,

:17:59. > :18:01.first round he can rely on the talent to get him out of trouble. If

:18:02. > :18:04.he makes mistakes like this on a major championships, through the

:18:05. > :18:08.rounds, he's going to struggle to make it farther. He should push on

:18:09. > :18:12.here. This is where he loses his position. He's looking around, but

:18:13. > :18:16.they're all in front of him. Why look around. He should be looking to

:18:17. > :18:20.get into the right position to react. This is why the championships

:18:21. > :18:25.are so important for someone of his age to learn how to deal with this.

:18:26. > :18:28.This is a great finish, but the danger was already before, he should

:18:29. > :18:32.have been more in contention. Yeah, it's all about learning. I think

:18:33. > :18:36.that's why people around Kyle were so keen that he come to the

:18:37. > :18:39.championships, even though it wasn't in his original plan in. This

:18:40. > :18:42.situation, you learn that it's not just about time trials. It's not

:18:43. > :18:46.just going out and running UK records for 600 m, running well in

:18:47. > :18:49.Birmingham. It's about negotiating the rounds and being in the right

:18:50. > :18:54.places and making those decisions. He's just learning. It's probably

:18:55. > :19:01.the first championships he's come to indoors. He's stepped from juniors

:19:02. > :19:05.and miss aid year last year. It's a valid point. I hope he does learn.

:19:06. > :19:09.I've heard that, even in his interview afterwards, it was as

:19:10. > :19:13.though, what's wrong? What's the problem, I got through. But

:19:14. > :19:17.sometimes he needs to realise he needs to be better than that.

:19:18. > :19:19.Somebody who has learned from her experiences at the Indoor

:19:20. > :19:24.Championships going back to the Europeans and the worlds was Laura

:19:25. > :19:29.Muir. Laura this morning was on the beginning of a long journey this

:19:30. > :19:33.weekend. 45 laps of the track. Heats of the 3,000, heats of the 1500

:19:34. > :19:38.today. All she wanted to do was qualify this morning. She did that

:19:39. > :19:43.easily. She did. What she wanted to do was qualify as easily as

:19:44. > :19:48.possible, expend as little energy as possible. She was in the tougher

:19:49. > :19:52.heats. They were running quicker than maybe she could have got away

:19:53. > :19:56.with in the first heat. I don't think she looked like she expended a

:19:57. > :19:59.lot of energy out there. She looked controls and displayed, I think,

:20:00. > :20:02.she's learned a lot from those previous championships that we

:20:03. > :20:12.talked about, the ip doors and disappointments -- indoors and

:20:13. > :20:17.disappointments. She went out before and was in floods of tears but she's

:20:18. > :20:21.learned. The race today, she didn't enter into trying to qualify

:20:22. > :20:25.outright in one of those. She calculated even as closing the last

:20:26. > :20:28.100 metres that she didn't need to fight for fourth position. She was

:20:29. > :20:33.just looking at the clock and knew what she had to do. Hopefully she's

:20:34. > :20:37.gone away, rested, recovered, eaten something and comes back ready to

:20:38. > :20:41.get through the 1500 metres with the ease as she did in the rounds today.

:20:42. > :20:46.You and I were walking in this afternoon and one of the British

:20:47. > :20:53.fans said, is Laura Muir OK, she was fifth. Yeah, she's fine. She knew

:20:54. > :20:58.what she was doing. This is the battle for second, third, fourth and

:20:59. > :21:02.fifth. Top four through by rights. Laura going through as a fastest

:21:03. > :21:10.loser, but that was calculated that. Was two Scottish athletes through to

:21:11. > :21:14.the final on Sunday. The third of the Scottish athletes, Eilish

:21:15. > :21:18.McColgan, she was going in the first of the two heats. She's been in good

:21:19. > :21:21.shape. She's been suffering, we were told, with a cold coming into this.

:21:22. > :21:26.I thought she looked good. She looked really good. She has been in

:21:27. > :21:30.very good shape out year. She went to Doha at the beginning of the

:21:31. > :21:34.year, then in Kenya. Raced person pests on the roads, 10,000 metres.

:21:35. > :21:41.Then on shorter distances as well. Here I think she looked really good.

:21:42. > :21:47.Koster took the opportunity to stretch it out a bit. When Eilish

:21:48. > :21:51.McColgan needed to she wound up the finish and she reeled them in with

:21:52. > :21:56.ease. I think she didn't really show any ill effects of that cold. It was

:21:57. > :22:00.more adjusting, as she says, what did she call herself, a rather tall

:22:01. > :22:05.creature or something like that. That's exactly what she said. It's

:22:06. > :22:09.difficult when you have as long legs as she did and the stride, she has a

:22:10. > :22:15.wide arm carriage, and it reaches a long way. She takes up a lot of

:22:16. > :22:20.space. It's an adjustment getting used to running on the smaller 200m

:22:21. > :22:25.oval. She's not experienced by her own admission indoors. That race is

:22:26. > :22:31.a great prospect, Laura Muir, that final comes on Sunday. Three of them

:22:32. > :22:37.in it. In between Laura's got heats in about an hour or so for the 1500

:22:38. > :22:43.metres and then the 1500 metre final before she comes back for the 3,000

:22:44. > :22:46.final on Sunday. It's a big ask. That's reflected in the fact there

:22:47. > :22:50.were eight people originally declared in the 3,000 metres and

:22:51. > :22:54.1500. Only Laura has taken the decision to actually try that. The

:22:55. > :22:59.moment they announced there were heats for the 3,000 and 1500, that

:23:00. > :23:03.increases the demand on the athletes so much. With only being a three-day

:23:04. > :23:06.championships it makes it tough. That's what the other girls will be

:23:07. > :23:10.hoping for, the only way really I can see them being able to challenge

:23:11. > :23:16.Laura is if she's bitten off more than she can chew and she can't

:23:17. > :23:20.handle that. Eilish McColgan has a strong chance of neecking in with a

:23:21. > :23:24.medal. Steph as well. Can I ask a question, is it wise that she's gone

:23:25. > :23:29.for this double? She says she's going to do it in the summer, with

:23:30. > :23:33.the 15 and 5,000. She's in the shape of her life. I think she's setting

:23:34. > :23:37.challenges, I'm answering for her here. I think herself and her coach

:23:38. > :23:41.Andy Young think she's capable. She wouldn't do it if she didn't think

:23:42. > :23:47.she was going to win two gold medals. Doesn't that make this the

:23:48. > :23:53.dry run. Yes, it is a bit of a dry run. It's not the same, Paula would

:23:54. > :24:00.say. It's much easier in the summer to double up. Easier! She's a busy

:24:01. > :24:04.athlete. You two would argue it's the multieventers who are the

:24:05. > :24:18.busiest. Pentathlon takes place in day one. We have the Olympic

:24:19. > :24:22.heptathlon here. She brings through the trail legs and runs off it. You

:24:23. > :24:33.see some of the other girls put it down and balance off it. She's been

:24:34. > :24:39.really active. She opened up really with a 22 point improvements here.

:24:40. > :24:43.That's a great start. In the high jump, her coach was saying that he

:24:44. > :24:49.hadn't done a lot of high jump. It looked rusty. She's rotating on the

:24:50. > :24:54.floor, shoulder goes in. Her clearance was a bit ragged, still

:24:55. > :24:58.196, fantastic. A bit shaky in the shot. The first round want

:24:59. > :25:02.particularly brilliant. Then she responded with a throw over 15

:25:03. > :25:06.metres. I think overall, based on her personal best, she's probably

:25:07. > :25:15.about 120 points ahead of schedule than before. That means she's into

:25:16. > :25:18.4,900, 4,960, if she goes a bit better in the long jump and the 800,

:25:19. > :25:29.the world record is on. Absolutely, she's very good. She's a tall girl.

:25:30. > :25:34.Great high jumper. It's wise that she doesn't do too much jumping in

:25:35. > :25:40.training. She doesn't need to. On the day, she's a two metre jumper if

:25:41. > :25:45.she can nail it. She's clearly got stronger. What's interesting, being

:25:46. > :25:48.fortunate enough to be in the infield, she walks around, she knows

:25:49. > :25:52.the business and everybody realises who the top dog is in the field now.

:25:53. > :25:56.I think the other thing is because she's so much better, you're out in

:25:57. > :25:59.front, you get to relax and you just do your thing, whereas everybody

:26:00. > :26:02.else is tuftling for silver and bronze behind you. It will be

:26:03. > :26:07.interesting to see. Talking of which, I'm not sure who top dog is

:26:08. > :26:12.here, I'm going to award gold, silver and bronze already... No I'm

:26:13. > :26:17.not! These are the meldals. They're quite chunky. They are. Serious

:26:18. > :26:22.piece of hardware. Very nice. Five of them on offer today, including

:26:23. > :26:28.that pentathlon. Thiam favourite for that. What we did before we came on

:26:29. > :26:32.air, we asked the guys, I joined in, let's have a prediction contest

:26:33. > :26:40.across the weekend. Here's what they've gone for: I like that you've

:26:41. > :26:44.gone five. Ambitious. I'm a Sunderland supporter. I've been

:26:45. > :26:53.miserable all year. I'm being positive here. Yeah, you know, seven

:26:54. > :26:59.bronzes Toni. Yeah. Yeah? Yeah. I wanted to go 13 in total. Can you

:27:00. > :27:04.not add up then! No, I thought be conservative. I remember Paula and I

:27:05. > :27:09.did a prediction once and we were so ambitious. Things do happen, it's

:27:10. > :27:15.sport. Three, we could actually squeeze four golds. Toni is right.

:27:16. > :27:24.Can I pressure you into, I'm giving Laura Muir two gold medals, I think

:27:25. > :27:28.she with win two. I'd like to see Andy come away with something in the

:27:29. > :27:32.60 hurdles. He's world lead. Into a lovely run of form at the moment.

:27:33. > :27:36.He's going to have serious competition with the French

:27:37. > :27:41.hurdlers. But he's looking good. Toni's gone for volume. Denise and

:27:42. > :27:45.Paula for quality. I've hit the middle of the road. This is the

:27:46. > :27:50.Europeans. We have a lot of people ranked highly. It's time toe just do

:27:51. > :27:54.what the -- to do what you do on the ranking list, you have a right to

:27:55. > :27:58.win medals, so take them. If we are going to win the meldals, there's a

:27:59. > :28:32.lot of work to be done. Here's what's on offer tonight:

:28:33. > :28:40.Straight out there now with Andrew Cotter and Colin Jackson.

:28:41. > :28:55.First semifinal of the women's 60 metres hurdles. They are lining up.

:28:56. > :29:16.Harala of Finland. Loncarek is the 15-times Croatian champion, eight

:29:17. > :29:25.times indoors. Yeni N'Gbakoto of the Netherlands. Has run 8. 03 this

:29:26. > :29:30.season. Four go through to straight semifinals.

:29:31. > :29:35.Good Dutch team here for these championships. Plotitsyna, the

:29:36. > :29:40.Ukrainian athlete, eight seconds dead in the heat. Ukrainian indoor

:29:41. > :29:48.champion this year. Finished strongly in her heat. The defending

:29:49. > :29:51.European champion, Talay. Took the title in Prague a couple of years

:29:52. > :30:02.ago. Bronze at the worlds as well, indoors and out. This is perhaps the

:30:03. > :30:13.third of the Germans, Lobe, she was third at the German indoors. Hope it

:30:14. > :30:17.doesn't end here for Kallur, this is her final competition. She retires

:30:18. > :30:20.after this. You want her to make it to the final for all she's given to

:30:21. > :30:24.the sport. It's a rough time she's had with injuries throughout the

:30:25. > :30:28.years as well. She's 36 now. Still the world indoor record holder. Er,

:30:29. > :30:44.said -- holder, set in 2008. European junior silver-medallist

:30:45. > :31:31.couple of years ago, the Hungarian athlete.

:31:32. > :31:42.Plotitsyna, alongside Susanna Kallur.

:31:43. > :31:49.Susanna Kallur will have her final to say farewell. Alina Talay, again,

:31:50. > :32:01.looking strong. And the Germans to come. With Pedersen as well. They

:32:02. > :32:05.will be taking note of Alina Talay and her efforts because she looked

:32:06. > :32:10.impressive. It was very good running. Different to the heats,

:32:11. > :32:14.where I felt she was under control and ran very sprightly to qualify

:32:15. > :32:19.well. Now she has gone over one metre faster in this first

:32:20. > :32:24.semifinal. You can see she is pleased with that performance as

:32:25. > :32:31.well. Not out of the blocks as sharp. But she keeps her form and

:32:32. > :32:35.runs off the barriers well, strong. And I think that's comfortable. I

:32:36. > :32:41.think she has half a yard left in her. That was a good time looking

:32:42. > :32:46.fairly comfortable. She had good starters alongside her. Perhaps that

:32:47. > :32:49.would have shocked her, how fast the Ukrainian got out in front

:32:50. > :32:54.straightaway. But she kept cool and worked hard of each of the barriers.

:32:55. > :32:58.There was no letup in between, exactly what you want to do. If you

:32:59. > :33:04.are going to cruise, cruise when there is nothing in the way.

:33:05. > :33:12.Plotitsyna was on a personal best, so a good run by her. It is going to

:33:13. > :33:25.be a good scrap with the Germans in full flight. Susanna Kallur, and not

:33:26. > :33:38.sure she made it. Four qualify, socially does go through. -- so she

:33:39. > :33:40.does go through. The final is 7pm in the UK.

:33:41. > :33:48.This is something you do not often see, the pole vault warming up and

:33:49. > :33:54.that happened. Not nice for him. The poll was at full bend and snapped

:33:55. > :33:58.into four or five pieces. I think he was relatively unhurt. He did seek

:33:59. > :34:02.medical attention. More of a shock to the system. You could not help

:34:03. > :34:08.noticing that the event favourite and his team-mate, the Polish

:34:09. > :34:11.athletes, were laughing. I think some of that is out of nerves. It is

:34:12. > :34:20.something that all pole vault 's dread. Look at that, at its full

:34:21. > :34:25.tension. Real questions for the German. He will have to gather

:34:26. > :34:30.himself. It is a nasty gash to his knee and his hand. He will have

:34:31. > :34:42.other polls in his bag, but he will have to muster some optimism for his

:34:43. > :34:46.opening attempts. The Olympic champion from Rio, as expected, out

:34:47. > :34:56.in front, some 257 points ahead of the best of the rest in Europe.

:34:57. > :35:03.Ivona Dadic from Austria, a personal best. Murmurs of world records for

:35:04. > :35:11.the Olympic champion. There she is, getting ready for the long jump, the

:35:12. > :35:14.penultimate event in the five. As expected, she is dominant,

:35:15. > :35:26.unchallenged on a bit of a procession for gold, it would seem.

:35:27. > :35:30.The long jump is about to start. As we wait for the second semifinal of

:35:31. > :35:33.the women's 60 metres hurdles, to confirm the results of the first. A

:35:34. > :35:53.personal best for Plotitsyna. Well, these semifinals really are

:35:54. > :35:57.putting them to the test, because this one has the two quickest up

:35:58. > :36:00.until we came to these championships, the two Germans,

:36:01. > :36:11.drawn with each other in lanes three and five. Isabelle Pedersen, who won

:36:12. > :36:17.this morning, is between them. Lots to watch out for, but the middle

:36:18. > :36:23.lanes... Four will go through, so you would probably think those four

:36:24. > :36:26.should. No fastest losers. Pedersen was not so good out of the blocks

:36:27. > :36:30.this morning but looked smooth after that. .Gov itch, she is having such

:36:31. > :37:23.a great season. I would not expect either of the

:37:24. > :37:31.inside lanes, unless we have more false starts, as in the first round

:37:32. > :37:35.this morning. I am tempting fate. And now, some real challengers from

:37:36. > :37:41.her own country for Cindy Roleder. She is in lane three. Then the

:37:42. > :37:45.Norwegian, Isabelle Pedersen, former world junior champion. He called her

:37:46. > :37:52.personal best outdoors last year with 12.8 six. 7.98 already this

:37:53. > :38:02.year. She was eight seconds exactly in qualifying this morning. Pamela

:38:03. > :38:09.Dutkiewicz, this is an ideal event for her. She is a good starter. Who

:38:10. > :38:19.knows, come the final, that could be important. A really good

:38:20. > :38:26.heptathlete, the Dutch athlete. And a new personal best in qualifying.

:38:27. > :38:29.We talked about false starts and Herman went through because there

:38:30. > :38:33.were four people disqualified in her heat. World junior champion. 19

:38:34. > :38:57.years old. Those four lanes in the middle. They

:38:58. > :39:00.will be the ones who will think, no problems here. Just get through, get

:39:01. > :39:17.this semifinal out of the way. The final, right at the end of the

:39:18. > :39:38.evening, just before 8pm here. Pamela Dutkiewicz got a good start

:39:39. > :39:44.again. Cindy Roleder has work to do. But these four are pulling away and

:39:45. > :39:49.it is Cindy Roleder who wins. I am not sure Pamela Dutkiewicz was

:39:50. > :39:57.really going flat out all the way. She got a decent start and Cindy

:39:58. > :40:02.Roleder was also out well. That went with the script pretty much, didn't

:40:03. > :40:08.it? I was studying hard, watching how these women would approach the

:40:09. > :40:13.race. I reckon probably four of the top five in the final word in this

:40:14. > :40:16.semifinal. When you talk about imbalance in the semifinals, that is

:40:17. > :40:20.the luck of the draw and that is what happens at major championships.

:40:21. > :40:27.Those German athletes will be there or thereabouts. Cindy Roleder did

:40:28. > :40:32.not get the sharpest start but she stayed cool, a good, clear head. I

:40:33. > :40:38.is in front, focused well on every barrier to make sure there were no

:40:39. > :40:44.respect -- no mistakes. She did that very well. Watch her in the final.

:40:45. > :40:49.Do not write her off from running a world's best. It was a really weak

:40:50. > :40:52.first stride. She nearly just stepped out of the block, the

:40:53. > :40:57.German. Once she got into the groove, she is a real danger. That

:40:58. > :41:04.final will be exciting. It could be a blanket finish. Are you going to

:41:05. > :41:07.call a one, two for Germany? I can tell you are looking forward to it

:41:08. > :41:14.and I am pretty sure you are looking forward to the men as well. They are

:41:15. > :41:17.effectively semifinals. Round one is coming up but they did not have a

:41:18. > :41:21.round this morning, so it moved straight through. We will speak to

:41:22. > :41:33.Andy Pozzi in a moment. He is running so consistently well,

:41:34. > :41:41.so consistently quickly, time and time again, and he destroyed the

:41:42. > :41:45.field. It has gone from strength to strength. I started with my quickest

:41:46. > :41:50.ever season opener, close to my personal best, and I was expecting

:41:51. > :41:55.it to build slowly. In the next race, it took one tenth of my PB. It

:41:56. > :42:01.took on another level and other -- I had some good wins against good

:42:02. > :42:04.competition. Describe what it is like when you were not able to put

:42:05. > :42:11.in the hurdling work last year, and this year you have. It is just

:42:12. > :42:18.consistency, being healthy for a long time and coming from a better

:42:19. > :42:22.base. Pozzi was all over the place. The race was there for him, he had

:42:23. > :42:28.the speed but did not clear the barriers. I was disappointed with

:42:29. > :42:33.the way that the Olympics went. I came away in the weeks and months

:42:34. > :42:37.later with more context and I felt, if that is where we are with limited

:42:38. > :42:43.preparation, it bodes well for the future. 60 metres hurdles is very

:42:44. > :42:47.strong in Europe, so I am going into it knowing that you need to be the

:42:48. > :42:52.best in the world to be the best in Europe at the moment. There are a

:42:53. > :42:56.couple of non-Europeans running well, but typically the Europeans

:42:57. > :43:00.are great at hurdles. At the Olympics, two of three medals were

:43:01. > :43:07.from Europe. That brings the event on an means I am striving because

:43:08. > :43:11.the competition demands it. I have been senior and at a high level for

:43:12. > :43:15.five years and I have very few medals for it, with the amount of

:43:16. > :43:20.injury. Hopefully now is the time that will change and you will see me

:43:21. > :43:28.on the podium more. You are still only 24, we should remind ourselves,

:43:29. > :43:32.not past it. Yeah, I flew onto the scene at 19. With the interruptions,

:43:33. > :43:40.it feels like I am about 40 at times but I still have a long time ahead

:43:41. > :43:42.of me, so that is good. Andrew Pozzi sounding confident,

:43:43. > :43:47.just replacing the first barrier head of the first heat. Just two

:43:48. > :43:55.races required for whoever should take this title, because there are

:43:56. > :43:59.exactly 24 men declared. One more and they would have required a round

:44:00. > :44:03.this morning. But looking to go straight through to the final. The

:44:04. > :44:07.first of three semifinals, if you can have such things. Andrew Pozzi

:44:08. > :44:12.is in great shape, and Colin, we are starting to see him approaching his

:44:13. > :44:18.best because he has been clear of injuries. Yes, one of the most

:44:19. > :44:22.important things without letting X -- with athletics, if you can get a

:44:23. > :44:26.couple of years injury free and put in the work, you can learn your

:44:27. > :44:30.trade. The only time you can learn that is when you stay injury free,

:44:31. > :44:34.and Andrew has managed that so well this year. What a difference it has

:44:35. > :44:40.made with his performance, from someone who just makes finals, to a

:44:41. > :44:51.world leader. A long way clear of the rest at the moment in time is,

:44:52. > :44:53.certainly in Europe. 7.40 three. He comes in as the man to beat. That

:44:54. > :45:31.brings its own pressure, of course. Second at the French indoor

:45:32. > :45:37.Championships. Second behind his compatriot who goes in the third of

:45:38. > :45:47.these heats. 7.53 this season. In recent seasons, they have produced

:45:48. > :45:52.such strong hurdlers in France. From the Czech Republic, a former

:45:53. > :45:55.European champion. Alongside Andy Pozzi, twice forth at world indoor

:45:56. > :46:04.Championships, despite his injuries and problems. You saw what happened

:46:05. > :46:10.to him in Rio at the Olympics. All sorts of foot surgery. Six in five

:46:11. > :46:19.years. Clear of those problems now I'm running well. -- and running

:46:20. > :46:23.well. A better crowd this evening than in the morning and it will

:46:24. > :46:51.perhaps grow over the weekend. The venue holds 20,000.

:46:52. > :46:59.A good start by Andrew Pozzi, was it beyond a good start? He looked

:47:00. > :47:04.sharply out of the blocks, it was a late call back. We've had a few of

:47:05. > :47:10.those in these championships. Starts that have looked good but have come

:47:11. > :47:14.back. We're looking anxiously on Pozzi's behalf at the reaction times

:47:15. > :47:25.on the board. Anything below a tenth of a second. Colin Jackson holding

:47:26. > :47:29.his breath. It looked to be a good start for Andy Pozzi. It's difficult

:47:30. > :47:33.to see from here exactly who's moving. I'm waiting for the

:47:34. > :47:38.statistics. Pozzi was certainly first to rise. Who pushed on the

:47:39. > :47:44.blocks first. That's what the starter will be looking at. Still no

:47:45. > :47:54.times yet come up for us, for the reaction. Maybe we can get them now.

:47:55. > :48:01.Lane eight has been given the shepherds crook. Parakhonka. I'd

:48:02. > :48:08.like to see the replay again. It's pressure on the pads, though. So

:48:09. > :48:27.Parakhonka farewell. Adds to the tension. He knows he's

:48:28. > :48:28.good enough to win this title. But barriers literal and fig aTiff to

:48:29. > :48:50.overcome. -- figureative. First of three heats for a place in

:48:51. > :48:58.the final of the men's 60 m hurdles. Well that time... I was looking at

:48:59. > :49:02.Shamatryn alongside Pozzi. It certainly wasn't Pozzi that time.

:49:03. > :49:07.It's been a theme of this opening day, the number of false starts,

:49:08. > :49:12.Colin. We've had many, which is really unusual. We usually see more

:49:13. > :49:16.false starts when there's a long gun hold between the set position and

:49:17. > :49:22.the actual bang of the gun. Here it seems to be quite quick. I don't see

:49:23. > :49:28.why they're so undisciplined. That's the only thing I can put it down to

:49:29. > :49:36.- lack of dis-Palestinian. I'm going tick -- discipline. I'm going to

:49:37. > :49:41.stick my hand in the air, here I am. It looked like Shamatryn alongside

:49:42. > :49:51.Pozzi. Again, can't find reaction times, let's look at the replay.

:49:52. > :50:00.Just a little rise from Shamatryn. Farewell Shamatryn. Right two gone.

:50:01. > :50:05.Reluctant to leave, but again, even on such a small margin, I think he

:50:06. > :50:09.probably knew. Yeah, you know, the key thing is once they put you in

:50:10. > :50:13.the set position, you've got to hold still. You cannot be moving your

:50:14. > :50:16.feet in the blocks. We saw then on our really slow motion there, that

:50:17. > :50:24.his feet were continuously moving on the block. He's being shown the

:50:25. > :50:42.reaction times. So back to the start we go. We've lost Parakhonka and

:50:43. > :50:48.Shamatryn. Down to Manga, Reynolds, Fofana, Bayer, Pozzi and Svoboda.

:50:49. > :50:58.Away they go now. A good start by Pozzi after all that. Moving along

:50:59. > :51:01.well. So too Manga. Pozzi takes it. Quick enough after all that, after

:51:02. > :51:07.the false starts and the pressure that will bring. That was a very

:51:08. > :51:11.impressive run from Andy Pozzi. Manga and Svoboda were battling for

:51:12. > :51:15.that second automatic qualification. No doubt about the winner, Andy

:51:16. > :51:19.Pozzi moves through. Most important thing is that you qualify and

:51:20. > :51:23.qualify well. He's done all the fast running this year. He's already put

:51:24. > :51:27.himself in the position of being world leader. Now he only has to

:51:28. > :51:33.focus on trying to take this title on. You've got to play a little bit

:51:34. > :51:37.safe. When you're as fast as Andy is, he can afford to have a little

:51:38. > :51:43.bit more caution in his performance. So it was good, it was nices, with

:51:44. > :51:48.all the things that were going on around him. He eased his way

:51:49. > :51:51.through. He could have caught that final barrier with his trail leg.

:51:52. > :51:56.Most important thing is that you get through well. Out of the blocks,

:51:57. > :52:02.nice, sound. Clattered that barrier there. Moving through the field.

:52:03. > :52:09.Clips that. No worries, he's through. Right now he's with Phil.

:52:10. > :52:13.Thanks a lot. Andrew, a nervious start there, two false starts, how

:52:14. > :52:17.do you keep your concentration that n those situations? It's not the

:52:18. > :52:23.first time we've had that this season. It's about focussing on what

:52:24. > :52:28.you're doing. I'm happy to callify after a couple of false starts. You

:52:29. > :52:31.come straight into the semis hows that for the mind set? It was a

:52:32. > :52:35.messy race but halfway through I knew I was coming clear and should

:52:36. > :52:39.have finished stronger. I will be ready for the final. The business

:52:40. > :52:44.end now, high hopes for you. But you have high hopes of yourself. You put

:52:45. > :52:47.no more pressure on yourself than the rest of us do. I'm here for the

:52:48. > :52:53.best performance of the season. I go for that later. We wish you well for

:52:54. > :52:57.the final. Cheers. Svoboda alongside Pozzi will have to

:52:58. > :53:06.see if he goes through as one of the two fastest loser. 7. 52 for Andy

:53:07. > :53:10.Pozzi. Only Legarde and Ortega have run more quickly than that this

:53:11. > :53:16.season. Pozzi has run 7. 43. That clip of the final barrier and still

:53:17. > :53:30.with the 7. 52, it augers well for Andy Pozzi in the final, which takes

:53:31. > :53:34.place #. -- at 7. 10 UK time. Nafissatou Thiam takes the runway in

:53:35. > :53:37.the long jump. This is the fourth event. Way out in front as we've

:53:38. > :53:43.been saying. Has been brilliant so far. Three events this morning.

:53:44. > :53:47.Would have taken some lunch, a bit a rest and this first event of this

:53:48. > :53:53.afternoon. Looks as though she's gone beyond six metres for sure. Has

:53:54. > :53:58.a best in excess of 6. 50. If she can get out there, we are talking

:53:59. > :54:05.world record is in range. Behind the board somewhat. Wherever this is

:54:06. > :54:07.measured lots to add. It's 6. 23. A good start for Thiam. Two more jumps

:54:08. > :54:19.to go. This is Krizsan, in fourth place

:54:20. > :54:30.after three attempts. Looking to wake the legs up and get

:54:31. > :54:34.back into the competition after a couple of hours of rest. A busy

:54:35. > :54:45.morning, a unique day in having all five events within the space of one

:54:46. > :54:49.day. Krizsan looks athough she's around the six-metre mark. Sideways

:54:50. > :54:55.at the end there. They all know that Thiam's kind of got this in the bag.

:54:56. > :55:09.Every other athlete is battling for the minor medals, including Krizsan.

:55:10. > :55:18.Here's the Hungarian team-mate of Krizsan.

:55:19. > :55:25.Looked laboured, slightly on the approach there. Third overall after

:55:26. > :55:32.three events, as we come into this penultimate event, the long jump.

:55:33. > :55:37.Thinking of the pocket of a medal for sure -- possibility. A lot of

:55:38. > :55:41.the athletes look as though they're getting a safe jumping here,

:55:42. > :55:47.including Thiam. That looked fairly comfortable for her.

:55:48. > :55:55.Zsivoczky-Farkas around the six-metre mark. She's a 6. 30 jumper

:55:56. > :56:01.at her best. 6. 6.06, in third place.

:56:02. > :56:04.STUDIO: The next semifinal, well effectively a semifinal shortly. But

:56:05. > :56:08.these are the qualifiers for the final later tonight. This final, the

:56:09. > :56:13.women's hurdles final, before the men's. As Colin was saying, we had

:56:14. > :56:19.four of them in the same semi. That's shaping up to be a great

:56:20. > :56:27.contest. Kallur has made it, great to see that. In her retirement race,

:56:28. > :56:34.that will be. So David King has a tough one here, in lane three.

:56:35. > :56:44.Having a good season. New best of 7. 63. That puts him in Europe's top

:56:45. > :56:45.ten, including his team-mate, late withdrawal last week, leaving the

:56:46. > :57:19.way open a bit for Darien. At the Olympic Games, talking about

:57:20. > :57:25.Ortega, took the Silver Medal in Rio. Already in very good form this

:57:26. > :57:54.winter, 7. 48, only himself as Pozzi under 7. 5.

:57:55. > :57:59.Just to remind you, only the top two guaranteed. There are two fastest

:58:00. > :58:16.lieuers spots. -- losers spots. Ah, Baji. There hasn't been a long

:58:17. > :58:20.hold from the set. What on earth is he doing there? He's an experienced

:58:21. > :58:24.athlete. I don't have any sympathy for anybody who has a false start,

:58:25. > :58:28.you know that from me. Because it's all about just sitting there. You

:58:29. > :58:32.know what you need to do. You just react to the gun and that's it.

:58:33. > :58:36.There's not much else you need to focus on at that time. Doesn't

:58:37. > :58:40.matter how nervous you are, you've been here time and again. It should

:58:41. > :58:45.not happen to experienced athletes. He's in the form of his life. You

:58:46. > :58:49.can understand somebody thinking, if I don't get a good start, I have no

:58:50. > :58:53.chance. He's in great form. This is a packed semi, and that can add to

:58:54. > :58:57.the nerves. But not when you're experienced. Just sit in the blocks,

:58:58. > :59:08.you know the release of the gun and wait for it, look at that.

:59:09. > :59:13.So here we go again then. We had two disqualifications before getting

:59:14. > :59:17.under way in the first of the semifinals, well, it's the semifinal

:59:18. > :59:27.round, there are three heats technically. David King, coached by

:59:28. > :59:34.James Hillier, 22-year-old, 7. 63, second in the Birmingham Grand Prix.

:59:35. > :59:41.Ortega, Olympic Silver Medallist closest to the cam ra.

:59:42. > :59:48.-- camera. Cleanly away. The Pole got away. But look at this, Czykier

:59:49. > :59:54.leading. Trajkovic, what a race from him. That was a surprise. Ortega not

:59:55. > :59:58.the best out of the blocks. But, well, Baji must be looking at this

:59:59. > :00:01.and thinking goodness me. If you said, who's going to win this race,

:00:02. > :00:06.you wouldn't have picked hip. #7 -- him. An improving athlete, improving

:00:07. > :00:15.this season. But a new national record. He's just knocked a chunk

:00:16. > :00:18.off his personal best. Something, well, he's a Cypriot, but I have a

:00:19. > :00:22.funny feeling maybe he lives around here. There's some odd flags waving

:00:23. > :00:28.there. This is the way to qualify. Put

:00:29. > :00:32.everything behind you, come into a championships with everybody at

:00:33. > :00:35.zero. You just do what you can do. He produced another personal best

:00:36. > :00:44.and another national record. Lots of talent around him, but he produced.

:00:45. > :00:50.I am thankful to Andrew Cotter for pointing out that he was born in

:00:51. > :00:54.Serbia and his family moved to Cyprus when he was nine. That is his

:00:55. > :01:02.extended family to see him here today. He was hitting hurdles, too.

:01:03. > :01:15.Really good start, driving out. The two of them started well, he and the

:01:16. > :01:22.athlete next him, but he did. Ortega has that smooth Cuban style,

:01:23. > :01:28.literally flawless. Those two are through, and there is David. Let's

:01:29. > :01:32.see how he did. Lots of pressure around. He knows this is a

:01:33. > :01:41.high-quality race. He would have to be close to his best to qualify. No

:01:42. > :01:45.real mistakes. Just rattled a couple of barriers and the last one really

:01:46. > :01:51.through him, not allowing him to get into a strong sprinting posture. He

:01:52. > :01:53.can see why he is frustrated. He came to a major championships and

:01:54. > :02:13.wanted to do well. No fastest loser spot for David

:02:14. > :02:18.King, unfortunately. Straight into a semifinal round and

:02:19. > :02:24.that was a hot one. Yes, I drew the short straw. I felt all right, quite

:02:25. > :02:29.good. But everyone around me was better than me on the day. I am

:02:30. > :02:33.fairly happy with how I handled myself but obviously I would have

:02:34. > :02:39.liked to have made the final. I am quite happy with my season. How big

:02:40. > :02:45.a part of the learning curve is this kind of event? It is massive. My

:02:46. > :02:51.second ever senior championship. It is really good prep for outdoors. I

:02:52. > :02:59.am grateful to be here. I am glad to be running personal bests this

:03:00. > :03:02.season. Is there anything that has surprised you? You can't ever take

:03:03. > :03:07.for granted that you will get through. I came into the competition

:03:08. > :03:10.thinking I could have made the final, probably should have made the

:03:11. > :03:17.final, and you can't have that mindset. I guess respect the big

:03:18. > :03:22.names and just try to beat them next time. Thanks for talking to us. All

:03:23. > :03:31.the best going forward. Thanks very much.

:03:32. > :03:40.The pole vault Matt is out. We saw that accident earlier. The world

:03:41. > :03:51.champion from Germany at the centre of the screen. Eurovision style

:03:52. > :03:57.introductions for the pole vault. They are enjoying this, a bit of the

:03:58. > :04:06.spotlight. The Croatian athlete, 26 years old. He is in shape. He is in

:04:07. > :04:25.form. Stanley Joseph of France. 25 years of age. Other athletes of

:04:26. > :04:35.moat, the two Polish athletes. -- other athletes of moat.

:04:36. > :04:44.While those athletes are being introduced, back to the pentathlon,

:04:45. > :04:58.a fascinating pentathlon, turning into a bit of a one-woman show.

:04:59. > :05:19.That looks better. She gave herself a good chance of letting loose. 6.23

:05:20. > :05:27.in the first round. Gave her the opportunity to open up a little bit.

:05:28. > :05:33.6.37, it is an improvement. Let's have a look at this. Well, that is

:05:34. > :05:34.an improvement. World record possibly in sight, and one jump

:05:35. > :05:49.remaining. We saw this athlete from Hungary,

:05:50. > :06:01.the older of two Hungarian athletes competing. Sixth in the World

:06:02. > :06:08.Championships two years ago, eighth in the Olympics last year, so has

:06:09. > :06:17.been a bit part player in the past. 6.06, her opener but she has

:06:18. > :06:21.improved with 6.1 two. That is a season's best for her. The women's

:06:22. > :06:31.pentathlon is really hotting up, with just the 800 metres remaining.

:06:32. > :06:38.There is a possibility of a medal for her.

:06:39. > :06:44.It is a busy evening in Belgrade, it is all happening. The hurdlers have

:06:45. > :06:48.had to wait some time while the introduction to the pole vault was

:06:49. > :07:04.going on. David, ready opens up in this one.

:07:05. > :07:16.7.63 this season is a new personal best for David Omoregie. The Spanish

:07:17. > :07:19.athlete was once from Cuba but realised that support in Spain was

:07:20. > :07:29.better so transferred his allegiance.

:07:30. > :07:53.France could have three in the final.

:07:54. > :08:03.There is a lot happening this evening. The pole vault is to one

:08:04. > :08:08.side. It is crowded on the infield. David Omoregie in lane one. This is

:08:09. > :08:12.the third of three heats to go through to the final of the men's 60

:08:13. > :08:19.metres hurdles. David King has missed out. Andy Pozzi is proved.

:08:20. > :08:24.Two go through only automatically. Fastest losers at the moment start

:08:25. > :08:47.at 7.5 nine. David Omoregie might have been run

:08:48. > :08:52.out of that. We look for the time. If he was run out of it, I don't

:08:53. > :08:55.think it was fast enough for David Omoregie. He was just about there in

:08:56. > :09:05.second place but Martinson was finishing so strongly. It is going

:09:06. > :09:10.to be close but I think David Omoregie is not going to go through.

:09:11. > :09:19.I think you are right. Looking at that time. You are right. He has

:09:20. > :09:23.probably just missed out. He crashed into the first barrier. Did not set

:09:24. > :09:28.himself up well enough. It is crucial that you do not clatter the

:09:29. > :09:32.first hurdle because that is where you are just accelerating, and you

:09:33. > :09:37.want to be literally perfect, flawless. There was a stumble from

:09:38. > :09:47.Contreras on his first stride and that was his race over. Yes, it does

:09:48. > :09:51.not take much. It feels like the field is flying away from you after

:09:52. > :09:56.that. There is nothing you can do to get back into your rhythm and put

:09:57. > :10:01.yourself in a competitive position. David was out of the blocks, driving

:10:02. > :10:11.hard. He was a bit close, which was why he clattered the first hurdle.

:10:12. > :10:15.He drifted outside his lane. That is kind of normal in the hurdles. They

:10:16. > :10:19.will not worry too much about it. They will battle with you.

:10:20. > :10:25.Sometimes, when it can cause a clash of arms, but he was so far in front

:10:26. > :10:32.that he had no problems. Let's hear from him with Phil. Frustration must

:10:33. > :10:40.be the keyword. Clattering the first hurdle. It is a case of what might

:10:41. > :10:44.have been. I was disappointed. I have come through since trials and I

:10:45. > :10:50.felt I could make the final today. I am not sure what happened in the

:10:51. > :10:55.heats before. I will have to see, but not the best race.

:10:56. > :10:58.Unfortunately, there are two times quicker, so you will not make it

:10:59. > :11:02.through. What will you take from this experience, particularly the

:11:03. > :11:10.start of the race which Colin was talking about, hitting the first

:11:11. > :11:14.hurdle, losing momentum? Hitting the first hurdle can definitely give you

:11:15. > :11:19.a disadvantage. You need to accelerate and hitting that gave me

:11:20. > :11:25.a disadvantage. Disappointing, but overall indoors I have been running

:11:26. > :11:28.personal bests, so I can take that and prepare for the outdoor season.

:11:29. > :11:42.With -- we wish you well. Well, it is so busy. We have the

:11:43. > :11:46.hurdles being tidied up, shot put down there, long jump qualifying,

:11:47. > :11:52.pole vault, and now on the track, the 1500 metres. I am hoping that

:11:53. > :11:58.photographers have moved. You cannot sit in lane one! It is not the

:11:59. > :12:02.hurdles. Important, another race for Laura Muir, just 4.5 hours after her

:12:03. > :12:16.3000 metres heat this morning. This has plenty for her to think

:12:17. > :12:22.about. Very talented German athlete, a big name of the future. 20 years

:12:23. > :12:30.of age. She is a front runner, full of heart and ability. She can run

:12:31. > :12:34.800 as well. She ran a relay recently indoors. She is not slow

:12:35. > :12:41.either. Cross-country champion, and a real talent. She is up against

:12:42. > :12:45.Laura Muir. There is the local favourite, very popular on the

:12:46. > :13:01.circuit. Two time European under 23 champion at 1500 metres.

:13:02. > :13:07.Laura Muir has had a bit of time to recover. She is in such good shape.

:13:08. > :13:15.There has been a change of draw, which I am checking, from what we

:13:16. > :13:20.initially had. Because that lady was not meant to be in this heat. They

:13:21. > :13:32.have definitely redrawn this. Laura Muir is still in there. I will bring

:13:33. > :13:39.in Paula in the second, once they get underway. The team-mate of the

:13:40. > :13:44.Polish athlete here was meant to be in this. Very different athletes. I

:13:45. > :13:48.wonder... I would not be surprised if they try to make this pretty

:13:49. > :13:54.quick, because they have nothing to lose. They know Laura Muir's ability

:13:55. > :14:01.and how quick she can be, and there are only two who qualify by right. A

:14:02. > :14:04.bit of a change in for. They have set off reasonably quickly.

:14:05. > :14:15.Klosterhalfen, not surprisingly, near the front. They have switched

:14:16. > :14:17.around quite a bit. Bob Asir is in there as well, and I think she has

:14:18. > :14:27.been swapped. Hopefully Laura was aware of this

:14:28. > :14:32.and it was not sprung on her on the track. It should not affect her

:14:33. > :14:36.tactics. She is running at the back, conserving energy and staying within

:14:37. > :14:42.striking distance. She will probably be happy if they move it along

:14:43. > :14:47.quickly and do not leave it down to the last 400, for her to raise the

:14:48. > :14:52.pace of a decent pace is easier than for the other girls, socially should

:14:53. > :14:53.handle that fairly well. As soon as she moved up on the outside there

:14:54. > :15:09.was pushing and shoving. Klosterhalfen, I always enjoy

:15:10. > :15:15.watching her run. She is a bit like Laura Muir, not as developed, but

:15:16. > :15:19.she is exciting to watch. I know the Germans are full of expectation for

:15:20. > :15:24.what the future holds for her. Who knows, maybe longer distances, but

:15:25. > :15:29.she is no slouch at 1500 metres and is now just on the inside in the

:15:30. > :15:35.lead. She is dangerous and also very brave. I remember watching her take

:15:36. > :15:39.it out hard in a junior event, not afraid. Very much as Laura Muir

:15:40. > :15:52.would often run. She is an exciting talent with a huge range.

:15:53. > :16:00.Klosterhalfen leading. Kaya in second. Laura pure taking -- Laura

:16:01. > :16:05.Muir taking closer order. Very, very slow. That's almost 5000m pace,

:16:06. > :16:10.certainly 3,000 m pace. Laura won't mind that. She's in exactly the

:16:11. > :16:13.right spot. She won't mind that. I'm not sure Klosterhalfen will really

:16:14. > :16:19.mind it. She's pushed on a bit. She's seen that and decided to race

:16:20. > :16:22.the pace a bit. Wait for the cheer when Terzic puts herself in

:16:23. > :16:27.contention to qualify here. The arena will wake up a bit and get

:16:28. > :16:33.behind her attempt to qualify. I think that the seeding judges or

:16:34. > :16:38.seeding panel have not done a great job with some of these races. They

:16:39. > :16:41.need to look more at outdoor performances, when athletes haven't

:16:42. > :16:47.raced indoors. They've taken just her split en route to longer

:16:48. > :16:53.distances. 400 metres to go. It's all beginning to stretch out a

:16:54. > :16:59.little bit. Terzic is still there. Kaya has gone out the back door.

:17:00. > :17:03.Terzic has given the crowd something to cheer about here. The top two

:17:04. > :17:07.guaranteed of course. Out of those three, I would expect Terzic to be

:17:08. > :17:11.the one who might miss out. She's gone very early here. Klosterhalfen

:17:12. > :17:15.will try to hang onto her. She's not blessed with great acceleration, the

:17:16. > :17:20.German. Laura Muir is. She moves into second place. 200 metres to go.

:17:21. > :17:25.Three of them, only two qualify. It's very slow, so whoever finishes

:17:26. > :17:27.third here may well lose out. Terzic striking hard down the back

:17:28. > :17:32.straight, Laura Muir looking comfortable. Klosterhalfen will not

:17:33. > :17:36.give this up, though. The German is still there. Laura Muir is looking a

:17:37. > :17:40.little bit tired. I think she's going to be OK. Klosterhalfen will

:17:41. > :17:43.try to attack again. Laura Muir looking comfortable. Just checking,

:17:44. > :17:46.there's a bit of danger there. It will be tight on the line. Laura

:17:47. > :17:55.Muir makes sure. Terzic goes through. And Klosterhalfen well,

:17:56. > :17:59.third place. Three fastest loser spots, so many Laura Muirs in here,

:18:00. > :18:03.it's hard to pick out who was winning that. Her fan club up there

:18:04. > :18:15.will be delighted. That was a bit of hard work in the end for Laura. Not

:18:16. > :18:19.surprisingly she ran an 8. 8.55 3,000 metres four hours ago. One

:18:20. > :18:23.thing Klosterhalfen doesn't have is track acceleration. She's strong.

:18:24. > :18:29.But too much of a gap to make up. She will have an anxious wait now.

:18:30. > :18:35.Klosterhalfen there a bit like McColgan, takes her a bit of time to

:18:36. > :18:40.get up to top speed. Terzic knew that in a flat-out 400 metres last,

:18:41. > :18:43.hard push, Muir and Klosterhalfen would probably get her. That's why

:18:44. > :18:48.she took it so early. She was tying up. Looking frantically at the

:18:49. > :18:53.screen there down the home straight. Just enough to hold on. But only

:18:54. > :18:56.just. There was a chance that Klosterhalfen had caught her on the

:18:57. > :19:01.line. I think Laura had to work hard there, but not too hard. She left it

:19:02. > :19:10.a little bit tight in the final 50 metres for my liking any way. Well,

:19:11. > :19:15.they were certainly happy. I wonder if Laura saw that, she's with Phil

:19:16. > :19:19.now. We rarely see that, that's quite a

:19:20. > :19:27.fan club you've got. I take it you know some of them, do you? I don't

:19:28. > :19:32.know! I can't see their faces. A big section of British fans over there

:19:33. > :19:37.as well. What's it like to have that support behind you when you're going

:19:38. > :19:41.for the double out here? It's great. I was with the Serbian girl there,

:19:42. > :19:44.you saw the crowd's reaction to her. It's great to have support. It

:19:45. > :19:48.really helps when it gets tough. You've had to be in two mind sets

:19:49. > :19:50.today, this morning trying to get through and conserve energy. You

:19:51. > :19:54.knew you had to race tonight. You had to cover every move there as

:19:55. > :19:57.well. What's it been like to negotiate that journey today? I had

:19:58. > :20:01.to, this morning, it was difficult. Obviously you want to qualify,

:20:02. > :20:04.there's no point in wasting energy. I looked at the times and knew I was

:20:05. > :20:08.safe. Just came through enough to qualify. Then today I didn't want to

:20:09. > :20:11.leave it outside top two, because you don't know what the heats were

:20:12. > :20:15.going to do. I did enough to qualify. Hopefully legs will be all

:20:16. > :20:18.right tomorrow. I know Paula Radcliffe talked about the heats

:20:19. > :20:22.today, the most stressful in a way, now you have the finals, you can go

:20:23. > :20:26.for it and do what you came here to do. Yeah, you want to get to the

:20:27. > :20:30.final first. I'm glad that's out of the way and looking forward to

:20:31. > :20:33.finals tomorrow. Well done on getting through both rounds today.

:20:34. > :20:37.We wish you well for the first final tomorrow and look forward to

:20:38. > :20:45.speaking after that. All the best. Thanks very much, cheers. I think

:20:46. > :20:48.looking at that slow motion, she looked more comfortable than maybe

:20:49. > :20:51.during the race. Just we were concerned a little bit. But she

:20:52. > :20:56.looked very comfortable indeed. Terzic with a new indeer national

:20:57. > :20:58.record. Well done to her. Klosterhalfen, two more races to

:20:59. > :21:07.come, she's got a chance with that time.

:21:08. > :21:12.Dadic bronze medal last year outdoors. Having a fantastic day so

:21:13. > :21:18.far, three personal bets from three, the long jump, first round 5. 98. A

:21:19. > :21:23.bit down on what she's capable of. This is the second-round attempt.

:21:24. > :21:35.Oh, that's better. It's well over six metres. In fact, it's 6. 6.41,

:21:36. > :21:40.wow, that's another personal best. That's four out of five. Dadic

:21:41. > :21:48.stamping her authority for possibly the Silver Medal. Thiam of Belgium

:21:49. > :21:52.still way out in front. Surely can't be caught. But Dadic absolutely in

:21:53. > :22:11.great form here in Belgrade. The next heat in the women's 1500

:22:12. > :22:15.metres. Sarah McDonald goes here. They are rattling through the races.

:22:16. > :22:18.They lost a bit of ground earlier today with the false starts, a few

:22:19. > :22:35.this evening as well. Look out for the yellow vest of

:22:36. > :22:43.Sweden and Bahta, two go through automatically only. Mageean will

:22:44. > :22:46.have her work cut out. Sarah McDonald has a strong chance here,

:22:47. > :22:50.if she puts herself in the right position and she's able to use the

:22:51. > :22:53.speed she has in the closing stages. It will be about what they decide to

:22:54. > :23:00.do early on, have they looked at the first heat and are they moving at a

:23:01. > :23:03.quicker pace? She ran so well in the UK championship, Sarah McDonald to

:23:04. > :23:11.take the title. Just holding off Eilish McColgan there. Say this for

:23:12. > :23:14.Steve's benefit, she's now a Birchfield Harrier and pretty well

:23:15. > :23:17.positioned at the moment. A slight benefit of knowing the pace of the

:23:18. > :23:24.first heat. There's one to come after this. That time of Konstanze

:23:25. > :23:30.Klosterhalfen 4. 10. 37. Three fastest loser go through. McDonald

:23:31. > :23:41.just sitting alongside Sidorska of Ukraine. Mageean was happy to see

:23:42. > :23:51.Bobocea put into the first heat, I'm sure. Looking better today. Sarah

:23:52. > :23:56.McDonald is placed well, tracking Bahta. Difficulty with Bahta is that

:23:57. > :24:02.she does have the quick change of pace if she chooses to use it and if

:24:03. > :24:07.in shape, she can fluctuate a lot if she comes in great shape to the

:24:08. > :24:12.championships. She looks composed. She's starting to labour though. A

:24:13. > :24:18.slight figure Sarah McDonald. Moving into a good position behind Akdag

:24:19. > :24:21.and Mageean. Two go through automatically. Sarah McDonald doing

:24:22. > :24:31.things properly at the moment, getting herself in the right

:24:32. > :24:35.position. Akdag takes the them through. Mageean is running strongly

:24:36. > :24:40.at the moment. We mention that she took the bronze medal at the

:24:41. > :24:42.European 00ships last year in Amsterdam, in second, behind Akdag,

:24:43. > :24:46.with Sarah McDonald well placed at the moment. Three laps to go. Get

:24:47. > :24:52.the feeling that Akdag is starting to slow a bit. You can see them

:24:53. > :24:55.bunching up behind her. Mageean chomping at the bit wondering

:24:56. > :25:02.whether she should go past her and take it on. Then that means she's

:25:03. > :25:07.towing the others around. The decisions of a middle distance race.

:25:08. > :25:16.Akdag beginning to look a little bit uneasy, not quite as strong. Mageean

:25:17. > :25:20.is well placed. So good McDonald. Mageean looks to her outside. Two

:25:21. > :25:25.going through automatically with 400 metres to go. Sarah McDonald in a

:25:26. > :25:29.good position. Has to come wide around Bahta at the moment. She's in

:25:30. > :25:32.a reasonably good position. Bahta will move wide as she tries to go

:25:33. > :25:39.around. That means Sarah McDonald will have to run a bit further.

:25:40. > :25:42.Bahta is quite a wide arm swing and that's dangerous for Sarah McDonald

:25:43. > :25:47.who's trying to get past her and use as little energy as possible. Going

:25:48. > :25:49.to have to wait and make her move on the straight here. Stepping out

:25:50. > :25:53.there, that takes something out of the legs. Bahta jotles her way out

:25:54. > :25:56.in front. Now McDonald is struggling. Two to go through

:25:57. > :26:06.automatically. Three in front of her. Akdag is spent. Instead Bahta

:26:07. > :26:10.in front. McDonald working hard to get on the back of Mageean. These

:26:11. > :26:13.two are strong contenders for the first two places. Mageean holding

:26:14. > :26:18.on. McDonald making a kick now. Bahta in front. Mageean, McDonald,

:26:19. > :26:24.gritting her teeth and driving on. Trying to get in the top two.

:26:25. > :26:28.McDonald has her on the line, just. Bahta takes it, McDonald goes

:26:29. > :26:33.through as the second-placed qualifier. That was, at times, she

:26:34. > :26:37.was a little bit unsettled and out of position. That was a brave run.

:26:38. > :26:42.McDonald will go through to tomorrow's final. You have to say, a

:26:43. > :26:46.tremendous achievement by Sarah McDonald. She had it all to do with

:26:47. > :26:49.50 metres to go. That was a very gutsy run and a big step up for

:26:50. > :26:53.Sarah McDonald. She did what she came here to do. She wanted to come

:26:54. > :26:55.and learn at a major stage about progressing through the rounds.

:26:56. > :26:59.There were a couple of times in the race where she looked very uneasy.

:27:00. > :27:04.She was getting shoved around. She wasn't where she wanted to be. She

:27:05. > :27:08.was able to react and come through. Let's have another look at it. She's

:27:09. > :27:12.seen the result on the big screen. This is where she was. She had so

:27:13. > :27:20.much still to do. She did. Even at this point, where us, Bahta moved

:27:21. > :27:25.around. Barysevich pushed her back again. You could see the concern on

:27:26. > :27:30.her face. She composed herself. She was closing on them a bit. She

:27:31. > :27:34.pooled every ounce of energy she could find. Down the home straight,

:27:35. > :27:38.she didn't panic. She just moved wide and she could sense that

:27:39. > :27:42.Barysevich was tying up. She ran through to the line, no looking

:27:43. > :27:44.around, no looking for clear qualification, she worked hard

:27:45. > :27:55.through to the line and she's rewarded with a place in the

:27:56. > :27:59.finalment Almost -- final. This was a great finish to the line. Watch

:28:00. > :28:03.her entrance stage left. Barysevich thinks she's got it. And there she

:28:04. > :28:08.is, the Birchfield Harrier through to the final with that effort on the

:28:09. > :28:12.line. Now she's talking to Phil. I think there's one delighted woman in

:28:13. > :28:16.front of me. That was a tremendous burst of speed to take you through

:28:17. > :28:21.to the final. Yeah, I knew I had good closing speed. I needed to use

:28:22. > :28:25.that. I t was pushy, I got elbowed a lot. I had to rely on my instinct to

:28:26. > :28:29.get round and swing down the finish line. I didn't know if I'd done it.

:28:30. > :28:32.A relief when it came on the board. Now you have, the realisation that

:28:33. > :28:36.you've made the final. What does that mean to you? Now I've made the

:28:37. > :28:40.final, I didn't think it would happen, go away and recover and get

:28:41. > :28:45.ready for tomorrow. At the start of the day, did you believe this was

:28:46. > :28:49.within you and this would be the target today? Yeah I knew I was in

:28:50. > :28:52.great shape. Coming here and doing that was perfect. You always have to

:28:53. > :28:57.have that idea in your head that's possible. When you're seeing what

:28:58. > :29:00.Laura Muir is able to do on the world stage right now, must be great

:29:01. > :29:05.inspiration to people like you coming through? Yeah it's really

:29:06. > :29:08.inspiring, seeing how great she is over 3 K as well. It makes me

:29:09. > :29:11.believe British people can do that kind of thing. It's great.

:29:12. > :29:15.Congratulations to you. See you in the final. Thank you, see you

:29:16. > :29:17.tomorrow. Well done Sarah McDonald. She's

:29:18. > :29:36.through to the final. Not much time to pause for breath

:29:37. > :29:40.literally. Because this third heat already, they're running again a bit

:29:41. > :29:44.behind schedule. The false starts at the beginning of the evening. So

:29:45. > :29:56.Ennaoui should have been in Laura Muir's is in this one. Ennaoui, the

:29:57. > :30:01.diminutive Pole there a well known kind of front runner. She's got her

:30:02. > :30:11.elbows out already. Look at her, wanting to give herself a bit of

:30:12. > :30:21.room. Gega now steeplechaser. She's moved up to steeplechase with decent

:30:22. > :30:26.effect. Gega, the Albanian. One thing, Paula, two pretty good

:30:27. > :30:32.runners, who know what's required in terms of time. Sarah was just

:30:33. > :30:36.outside 4. 12, 4. 13 will get you through. It is, but the other girls

:30:37. > :30:42.need to wake up here. I think it's going to be Gega or Ennaoui pushing

:30:43. > :30:47.to the pace. On paper, Ennaoui has came out of these switch-arounds

:30:48. > :30:50.with a much easier heat than she would have been in the first heat

:30:51. > :30:57.against Laura Muir. This is definitely an easier run for her.

:30:58. > :31:04.She's been in good shape so far. She's been training well. She really

:31:05. > :31:07.feels that should Laura show any chink of weakness, she can jump on

:31:08. > :31:11.that and take the title from her this weekend. She's trying to run

:31:12. > :31:15.this race and conserve as much energy as possible and Gega front

:31:16. > :31:19.running, as we often see her. Maybe that suits her more in the

:31:20. > :31:22.steeplechase, but certainly indoors it's no harm in being out front

:31:23. > :31:28.running. You won't have any wind or anything like that to contend with.

:31:29. > :31:37.Yes, she is leading, but as you said, she's not running very

:31:38. > :31:41.quickly. Kerry O'Flaherty is 30 years of age, the Irish athlete, and

:31:42. > :31:46.she went thanked me for telling you that. Kerry just closing the whole

:31:47. > :31:53.group up there, getting closer behind Gega. Ennaoui on the curve.

:31:54. > :31:56.The one other thing though, the likes of Gega and Ennaoui, Ennaoui

:31:57. > :32:01.is quite quick but you give the others a chance if you go to slowly

:32:02. > :32:06.because their ability isn't as fast but they can kick. You have to be

:32:07. > :32:10.careful about. Absolutely, somebody with a slow personal best on paper

:32:11. > :32:13.might be able to quick much, much faster and if they've never been in

:32:14. > :32:18.a slow race against them, they wait know that. I think that's like Gega

:32:19. > :32:22.has taken this opportunity to get it moving a bit. It's not a really slow

:32:23. > :32:32.pace here. They are moving along pretty well. Yes, just through,

:32:33. > :32:36.passing 1000 metres this time round. Was Lallana ran a personal best of

:32:37. > :32:41.410, quicker than her outdoor best, so she is obviously in good form

:32:42. > :32:46.this winter, so looking comfortable in second place. Ennaoui then tucked

:32:47. > :32:53.in behind her and the Swede, Nilsson in fourth. Kerry O'Flaherty is

:32:54. > :32:58.tailing off. The first two places and the three fastest losers spot.

:32:59. > :33:04.Klosterhalfen is looking like she may get one of those. The pace is

:33:05. > :33:09.starting to pick up. If Ennaoui starting to rock a bit or is it just

:33:10. > :33:13.her ponytail swishing behind her? No, she is still very composed and

:33:14. > :33:17.it is Nilsson who has moved a little bit wide to launch her attack

:33:18. > :33:21.earlier so that she can get herself at least up contending with these

:33:22. > :33:26.two over the final lap. Yes, this will be interesting because they are

:33:27. > :33:30.getting within that range there. So, Gega, Ennaoui now starting to move

:33:31. > :33:36.to the front with 200 metres to go. The top two only go three. Gega

:33:37. > :33:41.could be under pressure as the poll picks away, have a look behind, see

:33:42. > :33:47.that she has got space, open act, but Gega has not totally got rid of

:33:48. > :33:51.the Czech athlete. Ennaoui is constantly looking behind but she

:33:52. > :33:59.needs to concentrate the route ahead. She has got one in this bag.

:34:00. > :34:05.Ennaoui looks again. Gega looks like she is going to take second. That

:34:06. > :34:08.time, I think that is going to mean that for the athlete in third, I

:34:09. > :34:13.think she will be out of there, because there were two people close

:34:14. > :34:17.to Sarah McDonald and Klosterhalfen from the first heat, I think they

:34:18. > :34:23.will both read as fastest losers. We will tidy that up for you shortly.

:34:24. > :34:26.But Ennaoui looked pretty good. A good strong finish for you there and

:34:27. > :34:38.those two I think are worthy to we expected to go through. -- were the

:34:39. > :34:42.two we expected to go through. Yes, they worthy to expected to go free.

:34:43. > :34:48.Ennaoui looks very good, doesn't she? She's a very good confident

:34:49. > :34:52.runner, isn't she? She knows she is in very good shape and she would

:34:53. > :34:58.like to really perform hair, take it to Laura Muir and I think she thinks

:34:59. > :35:03.her strength is amplified by the fact Laura has chosen to double up.

:35:04. > :35:13.Ennaoui looked around a few times in that last lap, didn't she, showing a

:35:14. > :35:19.bit of weakness there. The athlete in third was unable to make up the

:35:20. > :35:24.ground on Ennaoui -- on Gega, despite her showing a bit of

:35:25. > :35:29.weakness. This confirms who goes through. None of the others in that

:35:30. > :35:32.heat will go through as fastest qualifiers. Two from the second heat

:35:33. > :35:47.and Klosterhalfen will go three instead. Thiam approved in the

:35:48. > :35:52.second round that she had the length and this is the final round. She

:35:53. > :36:01.just strength -- stretched into that and decelerate it just a tad, maybe.

:36:02. > :36:05.Yes, she knows. That 6.37 looks like it will be her best. I was hoping

:36:06. > :36:12.full ball because a view more centimetres would put her in touch

:36:13. > :36:17.with the world indoor record. What a talent in the Olympic champion we

:36:18. > :36:24.saw come of age last summer in Rio. Taking control of this European

:36:25. > :36:51.Indoor Championships. 6.23, the best in the second round.

:36:52. > :37:02.While, she is fighting for a place on the rostrum as well. At the age

:37:03. > :37:09.of 34, she might be destined for the rostrum. Her lifetime best in the

:37:10. > :37:19.heptathlon was in Rio last summer. 6.12 in round two. It is 6.38 in

:37:20. > :37:30.round three four Farkas. An improvement. Those through into

:37:31. > :37:38.second. Really close between Farkas and Thiam but Tadic the best of all.

:37:39. > :37:45.The world record possibly incite though. We will have to wait and

:37:46. > :37:52.see. The 800 metres still to come. Here are your overall scores. 4106

:37:53. > :37:58.for Thiam. She will have to run the 800 metres of her life, somewhere in

:37:59. > :38:07.the region of two point 14 if she wants to make an assault on that

:38:08. > :38:10.indoor world record. Possibly an interested spectator of that would

:38:11. > :38:16.be Morgan Lake, who will be going in the high jump. Qualification about

:38:17. > :38:22.to get under way, despite her relaxed approach there. She spoke to

:38:23. > :38:26.Steve yesterday. Morgan Lake, competing here in the high jump.

:38:27. > :38:31.Obviously there is a pentathlon here as well. Our whereabouts are you?

:38:32. > :38:34.Really aware of it. I will be jumping and qualifying at the same

:38:35. > :38:41.time as the pentathlon is on, so I'll have a little bit of an eye on

:38:42. > :38:43.it and focusing on the high jump. Of course, you are world junior

:38:44. > :38:50.champion in both. But the Jouvenaar mindset that you would just focus on

:38:51. > :38:55.the high jump here? I have had a bit of a -- what put you in the mindset

:38:56. > :39:01.that you would just focus on the high jump here? I have had a bit of

:39:02. > :39:05.a change in mindset and with focus on my training, so I am focusing

:39:06. > :39:12.just on high jump here. I have moved up to Loughborough for university

:39:13. > :39:17.and changed coaches, so there has been a lot of change there. But I am

:39:18. > :39:23.really enjoying it so far. Coming back to your aspirations for this

:39:24. > :39:29.weekend, what can you do? What can you achieve? I don't know, really.

:39:30. > :39:40.Obviously I am hoping to jump high. I jumped my personal best, 1.94, I

:39:41. > :39:46.haven't done that since 2014 and I'm hoping to get rid of that now. In

:39:47. > :39:51.terms of the ranking in the competition, I want to do well

:39:52. > :39:57.personally as well and make the final. That is a big game for me. We

:39:58. > :40:00.will see what can come out of that. Looking forward to the summer and

:40:01. > :40:05.widening the chat out to the multiple events, to the heptathlon

:40:06. > :40:13.outdoors and the retirement of Jess Ennis-Hill. Hal where'er you of the

:40:14. > :40:19.scrutiny you were under and the scrutiny of your performances so

:40:20. > :40:23.far? -- hal where are you? I haven't really given it much thought, to be

:40:24. > :40:27.honest. Obviously Jess being out of the picture will be weird, going to

:40:28. > :40:32.heptathlon and her not being there. But I think it's quite nice how me

:40:33. > :40:37.and cat are now going to be a bit more there and we still have her

:40:38. > :40:41.legacy as well. What is the dream for the London world Championships?

:40:42. > :40:46.I would love to do both the heptathlon and the high jump there.

:40:47. > :40:51.Is the timetable friendly enough for that? It just about works. Not that

:40:52. > :40:59.much space but hopefully I can do it. Well, there is Morgan. Denise,

:41:00. > :41:03.she is still only 19 and it feels like we have been speaking about

:41:04. > :41:08.Morgan Lake for such a long time already. What about her decision to

:41:09. > :41:12.just do high jump indoors and do the full heptathlon outdoors? Is that a

:41:13. > :41:17.good thing? I think it's absolutely a good thing. Morgan has got to put

:41:18. > :41:21.to bed all the negative experiences that she is experienced in

:41:22. > :41:26.heptathlon. I think competing in Beijing last year for the high jump

:41:27. > :41:30.gave her such a boost, such a lift, the continuing that positive vibe,

:41:31. > :41:34.going on to the indoors is really important. She talked about

:41:35. > :41:42.transition between moving from working with her father in Slough

:41:43. > :41:46.and that area, moving to Loughborough working with her new

:41:47. > :41:51.coaches. It seems to be working and fundamentally she needs to be happy

:41:52. > :41:53.again and take on some new instruction, which she's embracing.

:41:54. > :41:57.Studying is still really important to her as well and cheat managing to

:41:58. > :42:03.dovetail back in Loughborough. She's in a good place right now. We know

:42:04. > :42:07.that she's good at the high jump. Hopefully she will have a good

:42:08. > :42:11.competition here. But in terms of the summer, Steve asked her, is she

:42:12. > :42:15.aware of the attention? What would be a good summer for her? London

:42:16. > :42:23.world Championships, lots of will have expectations. Expectations, I

:42:24. > :42:28.think that's been part of the problem by people -- why she has not

:42:29. > :42:37.been able to relax and enjoy her hat Aplon. She is so young with so much

:42:38. > :42:40.to learn -- enjoy her heptathlon. Her long jump is very good when she

:42:41. > :42:46.hits the board, she has got speed to work on and there is much more to

:42:47. > :42:49.improve on. First and foremost for Morgan, it's the mental freeness

:42:50. > :42:56.that she needs to get the best out of herself for heptathlon. Well, a

:42:57. > :43:00.good high jump here in Belgrade will help that. She's about to get under

:43:01. > :43:09.way and out on the track, about to get under way, the women's 400 metre

:43:10. > :43:15.semifinals. Yes, and the athlete in lane one has withdrawn, making

:43:16. > :43:21.things slightly easier for Eilidh Doyle. Two will go through

:43:22. > :43:36.automatically. Doyle and Hejnova would be the

:43:37. > :43:44.favourites to take those two qualifying places, having had some

:43:45. > :43:48.epic battles. There is Hejnova. She had injuries after Beijing,

:43:49. > :43:55.scuppering her fitness ahead of Rio. She finished fourth there. Eilidh

:43:56. > :44:05.Doyle, former European champion in generic. A finalist in Rio. Her time

:44:06. > :44:18.not too impressive but there is more to come, I am sure. Holub was second

:44:19. > :44:20.in the Polish Championships, so they will have a strong four by 400

:44:21. > :44:42.metres. Putalova has been a finalist at both

:44:43. > :44:51.the Europeans and the worlds. She is on the inside now, with the athlete

:44:52. > :44:56.withdrawal. So, just two to go through to the final, this is the

:44:57. > :45:10.first of three semifinals. The final is tomorrow. Doyle starts as one of

:45:11. > :45:16.the favourites for this, alongside Hejnova, and Doyle has the advantage

:45:17. > :45:27.of being able to work on the outside.

:45:28. > :45:39.The first of three semifinals in the women's 400 metres. The way they go.

:45:40. > :45:46.Eilidh toil away fairly smartly. There is a break towards the end of

:45:47. > :45:51.the first lap. There is often quite a battle, a tussle at the break.

:45:52. > :45:58.Harder to pass on tighter, indoor tracks. Zuzana Hejnova trying to get

:45:59. > :46:08.a squeeze on Eilidh Doyle. They are a long way clear of the rest. These

:46:09. > :46:15.will be the two to go through. Eilidh Doyle and Zuzana Hejnova so

:46:16. > :46:23.experienced and so strong. The gap is closing a little bit and Zuzana

:46:24. > :46:37.Hejnova starting to rock. Eilidh Doyle looking for it. I think Holub

:46:38. > :46:39.might have got there. She timed her run and it might have been timed to

:46:40. > :46:47.perfection and Eilidh Doyle might be out. Just two to go through. I think

:46:48. > :46:52.she knows as well. It is our high risk strategy that if you decide you

:46:53. > :46:58.are going to take on Zuzana Hejnova in the first 200 metres, they are

:46:59. > :47:00.both quick. That is as quick as I have seen Eilidh Doyle attack. She

:47:01. > :47:05.has been running very well, so she has every right to do that. Where it

:47:06. > :47:10.went wrong was the last 40, 50 metres. Zuzana Hejnova chose not to

:47:11. > :47:22.fight Eilidh Doyle and relaxed in behind her. The of them were being

:47:23. > :47:29.attacked by Holub. Zuzana Hejnova perhaps sensed there was pressure

:47:30. > :47:34.from behind but Templeman croquette driving. Holub had the momentum to

:47:35. > :47:44.take her over the line in second place. -- Eilidh Doyle. I wonder if

:47:45. > :47:50.she had slotted behind Zuzana Hejnova, whether the two of them

:47:51. > :47:55.would have stayed in front. Eilidh Doyle might have been trying to lay

:47:56. > :48:03.down a marker for the final. Sadly she will not be in the final. In

:48:04. > :48:07.slow motion, you can see Holub coming through just as Eilidh Doyle

:48:08. > :48:15.starts to tie up. She was crying out for the line to come. Holub timed it

:48:16. > :48:20.so well for the hugely disappointing for Eilidh Doyle. Zuzana Hejnova

:48:21. > :48:24.goes through and Holub goes through and Eilidh Doyle does not. She will

:48:25. > :48:30.throw everything into the relay. There was a bit of a margin in the

:48:31. > :48:39.yen will get her thoughts. You saw how close it was. Were you aware she

:48:40. > :48:44.was chasing you down? I do not know what was going on. I was just trying

:48:45. > :48:50.to get to the line as quickly as I could. I am gutted. As Andrew said

:48:51. > :48:57.on commentary, the least you would have expected was to make the final

:48:58. > :49:02.and hope to content for a medal. I knew I had to go out hard. I knew I

:49:03. > :49:07.had to try to win the race and make it difficult for the girls. I wanted

:49:08. > :49:14.to try to win so I could get into the final. Tim not make the final is

:49:15. > :49:18.heartbreaking. -- to not make. You will have to come back now for the

:49:19. > :49:24.relay. Will be something to look forward to? It would be my chance to

:49:25. > :49:28.try and get a medal with the team. So, yes. I have tomorrow to look

:49:29. > :49:34.back and have a look at this race and forget about it and move on to

:49:35. > :49:46.the relay. Thank you for talking to us. A deeply frustrating result. She

:49:47. > :49:53.was not drawn into the confrontation, Holub. Just two going

:49:54. > :50:04.through and six in the final. Eilidh Doyle goes out. I said that was a

:50:05. > :50:07.high risk strategy. We're going to see Nielsen in the third race.

:50:08. > :50:13.Eilidh Doyle made the point that your chances in the final can be won

:50:14. > :50:18.and lost in the semifinal because of the lane draw. Eilidh Doyle went for

:50:19. > :50:25.it, Chi absolutely did and just ran out of legs at the end. Not in the

:50:26. > :50:31.finals. We had three coming into these championships. Sadly, Nielsen

:50:32. > :50:38.had to pull out with injury before and that might affect the 4x400 team

:50:39. > :50:47.but her twin sister is in the third of these semifinals but none of them

:50:48. > :50:53.are easy. Lea Sprunger is definitely the fastest and the favourite. Sara

:50:54. > :51:00.Slott Petersen, the Olympic silver-medallist at 400-metre

:51:01. > :51:08.hurdles. Tamara Salaski will get a big cheer from the home country.

:51:09. > :51:17.This is the Ukrainian, Olha Bibik. She ran very well in qualification.

:51:18. > :51:26.Sara Slott Petersen was involved in the racing. The three of them came

:51:27. > :51:30.and the Frenchwoman was reinstated after initially being disqualified.

:51:31. > :51:38.Sara Slott Petersen finds herself in lane three with Debra Sinan is in

:51:39. > :51:49.lane two. The Mediterranean under 23 champion from last year. -- Sananes.

:51:50. > :51:56.A big cheer for Tamara Lasalle -- Tamara Salaski. There are plenty

:51:57. > :52:10.400-metre hurdlers, including a Lee Childs. -- Childs.

:52:11. > :52:20.Justyna Swiety in lane five. She was fourth in 2014. At the Europeans two

:52:21. > :52:25.years ago, she won the bronze medal. This year, she has run quicker than

:52:26. > :52:31.ever. She might have to go at least that quickly to make sure of a place

:52:32. > :52:42.in the finals. Lea Sprunger leads the European rankings with the

:52:43. > :52:46.quickest time. Lea Sprunger started very quickly. Justyna Swiety from

:52:47. > :52:50.Poland watching had disappeared down the back straight for the now

:52:51. > :52:54.beginning to get into her running and moving away from Olha Bibik.

:52:55. > :52:57.Sara Slott Petersen wanting to get into the race or quickly as she

:52:58. > :53:01.cancelled that you can see the intent of the Swiss Ashley on the

:53:02. > :53:06.outside. She is well ahead here. Remember what happened in the first

:53:07. > :53:15.semifinal. Peterson again grappling for second and again in a scrap with

:53:16. > :53:21.the French athletes. Debra Sinan is -- Sananes having to give way. The

:53:22. > :53:26.battle between Peterson and Justyna Swiety for second place. These two

:53:27. > :53:30.closing slightly on Lea Sprunger. You do not often see that in the

:53:31. > :53:40.400, looking comfortable. Justyna Swiety comes through to take the

:53:41. > :53:42.second spot. They were the two, in terms of form and outside lanes and

:53:43. > :53:52.they were expecting to come through. I think it was a little bit easy for

:53:53. > :53:56.Lea Sprunger. To be able to look round, as she did, in the home

:53:57. > :54:01.straight, she will be happy to have made it through. A sigh of relief.

:54:02. > :54:05.She is through to the final. No doubt she was the favourite. I was

:54:06. > :54:13.impressed with how Justyna Swiety ran. She did not panic. She waited

:54:14. > :54:18.and waited and knew that Sara Slott Petersen would be coming back to her

:54:19. > :54:26.just slowing more than Justyna Swiety was slowing. Justyna Swiety

:54:27. > :54:30.maintained almost an even pace. Justyna Swiety with a masterclass in

:54:31. > :54:35.measuring and judging the 400 metres. Sara Slott Petersen is the

:54:36. > :54:41.athlete who pays the price. Lea Sprunger very strong. She had a big

:54:42. > :54:50.lead for the she did not fade as Zuzana Hejnova and a Lee Doyle --

:54:51. > :55:03.Doyle in the first heat. I would not want to get into an

:55:04. > :55:11.elbowing competition. Sara Slott Petersen does not make the final but

:55:12. > :55:20.does get a season's best. Now for the last of these semifinals. Lavlai

:55:21. > :55:36.Nielsen is now the last Briton standing because her twin had to

:55:37. > :55:43.withdraw. The race was redrawn and she has lane six, which makes a big

:55:44. > :55:49.difference on the indoor track. She is a huge talent. We can have

:55:50. > :55:54.another look at her this morning. What I liked about this morning, if

:55:55. > :56:01.you think of Birmingham, she had 24.1 and attacked it hard. This time

:56:02. > :56:08.more than a second slower but it looked comfortable and control. Then

:56:09. > :56:13.she stayed strong. Against better athletes, to get to the front in the

:56:14. > :56:19.first 200, you must go quicker. She is learning all the time and running

:56:20. > :56:23.with real maturity. Just watch the action coming into the home

:56:24. > :56:28.straight. Looking very good. Keep driving forward. That is pretty

:56:29. > :56:34.impressive. More of that tonight and she will make it through. You

:56:35. > :56:40.mentioned the endurance she has. When she and her sister used to run

:56:41. > :56:46.distances, that was the initial choice. Someone spotted that might

:56:47. > :56:52.be useful at this distance. Lavlai Nielsen has the quicker leg turnover

:56:53. > :56:58.and she is more suited to this race. She goes in lane six. It is ruthless

:56:59. > :57:09.at this stage and only two go through to the final tomorrow.

:57:10. > :57:19.Floria Guei was reinstated after initially being disqualified. On the

:57:20. > :57:26.outside, you get an idea of the banking on the track. Not as severe

:57:27. > :57:32.as some of the indoor tracks, which can throw you a bit. Inside is

:57:33. > :57:40.Floria Guei. She was disqualified after a little nudge. No news on

:57:41. > :57:49.that incident. It looked a nasty fall that she was taken off to

:57:50. > :58:10.hospital. Baumgartner certainly has a chance. -- Baumgart.

:58:11. > :58:18.Lara Hoffman is inside her. Took the German indoor title for the second

:58:19. > :58:22.time last month. We have already seen the strength of the German

:58:23. > :58:33.team, particularly in the 60 hurdles.

:58:34. > :58:43.I mentioned the line-up with two going through automatically. Floria

:58:44. > :58:51.Guei is a great relay runner. For those who may have seen how race

:58:52. > :59:05.this morning, they were -- would consider her quite fortunate to be

:59:06. > :59:09.here. She was reinstated. On the outside is Baumgart, looking to make

:59:10. > :59:16.it a hat-trick of Polish women in the final, which is tomorrow.

:59:17. > :59:27.So, running blind on the outside is Laviai Nielsen. Trying to go so fast

:59:28. > :59:34.and trying to get to the break first. How will Laviai Nielsen run

:59:35. > :59:43.the race? A strong start by Baumgart. The three outside, Floria

:59:44. > :59:48.Guei, Baumgart and Laviai Nielsen leading them out. Laviai Nielsen has

:59:49. > :59:56.gone out strongly. A bit of a stumble. You can see the effort that

:59:57. > :00:00.Baumgart is putting in. A huge gap for the rest to try to close. Laviai

:00:01. > :00:06.Nielsen looks to be fairly comfortable. Floria Guei has judged

:00:07. > :00:09.it well and put in the finish to take the victory. Tempo map are

:00:10. > :00:14.trying to get the victory for the better lane in the final but she

:00:15. > :00:18.will be a true as a qualifier. -- Laviai Nielsen trying to get. They

:00:19. > :00:21.qualified a long way clear of the rest. Not as tough a semifinal as

:00:22. > :00:35.the previous one macro. Elko yes, well done. The youngster

:00:36. > :00:40.is three. Just a pity she didn't win that, because with the winning time,

:00:41. > :00:45.she would have got one of the best planes. Just not quite holding on

:00:46. > :00:48.here. Guei, well, she's a very good athlete and is definitely a

:00:49. > :00:54.contender foreign athlete, so Vlaar via Nielsen is as close to Guei as

:00:55. > :00:59.she is here, of course, the problem is she will be in traffic come the

:01:00. > :01:05.final. -- is Laviai Nielsen is as close to Guei as she is here. If she

:01:06. > :01:10.goes in to a deal with the others, as she will do, it's a bit of a

:01:11. > :01:15.lottery as to which lane she gets, which means she can't attack too

:01:16. > :01:19.hard come the final. That's tomorrow. Tonight was about getting

:01:20. > :01:24.to be final. You can see how she tried to react at the end but it was

:01:25. > :01:30.too late in the race. Just wasn't able to hold her off. 8.5 out of

:01:31. > :01:36.ten? Am I being harsh. Nine out of ten. She has done brilliantly to get

:01:37. > :01:41.to the final. You can see the result there. She has just about got her

:01:42. > :01:45.breath back and she is with Phil. Yes, she is just about getting her

:01:46. > :01:50.breath back, Steve, but breathless or not, I'm sure you're delighted to

:01:51. > :01:57.speak to us after reaching a final on a like this. I can't believe I'm

:01:58. > :02:01.European finalist. I wanted to try to win that semi and I voted all the

:02:02. > :02:07.way. I'm so pleased I'm European finalist! We saw what happened, with

:02:08. > :02:11.Eilidh not making the final, from a regime where expected to come

:02:12. > :02:14.through. You, with your lack of experience, relatively, took that in

:02:15. > :02:19.your stride. It was just a consummate performance. Yes, I mean,

:02:20. > :02:22.I spoke to my coach about this and I was really nervous coming into this

:02:23. > :02:29.and he said, don't make it any be bigger than it is. At the end of the

:02:30. > :02:33.day, it's just a 400 and that's what I trained for. I try to stay as calm

:02:34. > :02:36.and relaxed as I could. I'm over the mean that I have a final tomorrow.

:02:37. > :02:45.And in that final, the likelihood is you might be one of the indoor --

:02:46. > :02:48.inside lanes, possibly in traffic. How will you address that with your

:02:49. > :02:50.coach? I'm going to fight it. I'm absolutely going to find it. I'm

:02:51. > :02:56.gaining my confidence slowly but surely. I will die on the line

:02:57. > :03:00.trying. One thing you have underlined is that you belong on

:03:01. > :03:05.this stage. Thank you. Thank you so much. There wasn't much easing up

:03:06. > :03:10.from any of the semifinalist winners there and if you look at them,

:03:11. > :03:13.Laviai Nielsen has the fourth fastest time so she has a chance of

:03:14. > :03:21.a medal. But as she says, delighted to make the final. Really busy on

:03:22. > :03:25.the infield here this afternoon. You can see the athletes out for this

:03:26. > :03:31.high jump qualification. Morgan Lake, Britain's only athlete in this

:03:32. > :03:36.qualification process. 21 athletes, the bar, 1.8 one. A good start for

:03:37. > :03:47.Morgan Lake. That is her opening height. 1.93 as automatic qualifying

:03:48. > :03:53.or top eight. -- automatic qualifying. All top eight go

:03:54. > :03:56.through. I've got to tell you, Morgan Lake should not be afraid of

:03:57. > :03:58.any of the other athletes in the field, and she is one of the most

:03:59. > :04:13.experienced in the field at only 19. It is tiring me out, this. They are

:04:14. > :04:17.catching up. This is vast athletics, this is what we like. The crowd has

:04:18. > :04:22.been building all evening and that bodes well for the weekend. A big

:04:23. > :04:26.football match in Belgrade over the weekend but hopefully it will be

:04:27. > :04:33.pretty poor in here as well. Garcia is in the outside here. To

:04:34. > :04:37.semifinals for the guys. This guy was really impressive in the

:04:38. > :04:47.qualifying, Vedel, just 19 years of age. He has the pleasure of leading

:04:48. > :04:53.out Maslak, who finds himself in lane for him. He decides -- the

:04:54. > :04:57.defending European champion. The man from the Czech Republic, very

:04:58. > :05:05.popular. And Maslak will be hoping to qualify here. Rather different to

:05:06. > :05:09.the women's qualifying. Top four from these two races. No fastest

:05:10. > :05:21.losers. Jordier of France in lane three. And then the imposing figure

:05:22. > :05:27.of Brian Gregan in lane two. Incidentally, Ireland won this title

:05:28. > :05:33.in the shape of David Gillick, no less imposing in 2005 and 2007. He

:05:34. > :05:39.is here with Irish television. On the inside, Altintas of Turkey, who

:05:40. > :05:43.actually was quite impressive in qualification. He will be

:05:44. > :05:50.disappointed to be in lane one. So, Garcia, Vedel, Maslak, it is hard

:05:51. > :05:53.really to make out which of these two semifinals is the more

:05:54. > :05:59.difficult. There are three Spaniards and they will be very tough to beat

:06:00. > :06:03.calm the four by 400 metres. France may well have something to say about

:06:04. > :06:08.that as well, but I think Spain, the guys have all looked good. Only one

:06:09. > :06:17.of them, Samuel Garcia, is in this heat in lane six.

:06:18. > :06:24.A crowded arena here. We are just waiting for a little bit of quiet.

:06:25. > :06:29.The starter is having a conversation with his team, wanting to make sure

:06:30. > :06:33.that the track is clear, the most important thing, the speed these

:06:34. > :06:38.guys hurtle around these 200 metres. Maslak recently ran a quick 20.52,

:06:39. > :06:42.just outside his national record for the 200 metres at the Czech indoor

:06:43. > :06:49.Championships. He has got plenty of pace. The problem is with the

:06:50. > :06:54.starting mechanism down to my left. I can see them about 15 metres from

:06:55. > :07:01.me. I think someone has pulled the plug out. This team, bless them,

:07:02. > :07:14.have had a tough day. A long day and a bit of a tough day. Electronic

:07:15. > :07:29.guns, of course. Has anyone got any coins for the meter? When I say go,

:07:30. > :07:37.go. That'll do, went it? We could go back to a whistle. Bless him, the

:07:38. > :07:43.late lamented Stan Long, the first-ever fun run in Gateshead,

:07:44. > :07:46.that is what he said. When I say go, go. Everyone just stood still.

:07:47. > :07:54.Didn't have a clue what he was talking about. Does anyone have a

:07:55. > :08:05.whistle? I have. It's not helping the athletes either. Well, we have

:08:06. > :08:10.been talking about Maslak and his prowess indoors. So while we are

:08:11. > :08:16.waiting for the starters to get themselves sorted out, let's have a

:08:17. > :08:22.look at how good this man is. A little bit of a shaven head on this

:08:23. > :08:27.occasion. Those sleeves of his have become a familiar figure, of course.

:08:28. > :08:31.At the world indoor ins pot, that was another great performance. This

:08:32. > :08:38.is the year rose in Prague and he was so dominant. And then in Poland

:08:39. > :08:42.again winning. That was a big win for him. I don't think we thought he

:08:43. > :08:50.was going to win again last year but, a big performance. Well, that

:08:51. > :08:58.shows how dominant this man has been. He's top of the rankings here.

:08:59. > :09:02.44th -- 45.8 this year and is definitely the favourite. Not in the

:09:03. > :09:08.final yet, though. As to negotiate his way through this semi. Really

:09:09. > :09:14.interested to watch this young Danish runner, Vedel, in five. Away

:09:15. > :09:19.they go. Maslak, I am sure, will try to get out quickly. He had got past

:09:20. > :09:23.Vedel. Garcia have attracted down the back straight, the Spaniard in

:09:24. > :09:28.lane six, but it is Maslak quickest through the first 120 metres. He

:09:29. > :09:34.will take the break and he will be in the read. So Maslak controlling

:09:35. > :09:39.it, then Garcia, then Vedel. For go through and they are well spread

:09:40. > :09:43.out. Sorry, three go free. Geordie eight is in fourth place. There is a

:09:44. > :09:51.big gap at the moment between him and beat three airhead. Vedel is

:09:52. > :09:55.going to try to attack Garcia and Maslak looks very comfortable.

:09:56. > :10:01.Ehrlich 's Vedel. Will he get Garcia? Yes, he does. It didn't

:10:02. > :10:07.matter anyway. Three of them are going through. But, it's important

:10:08. > :10:11.in terms of positions. Certainly Maslak going through without any

:10:12. > :10:17.problems and you cannot see anybody beating him, really. Again, for the

:10:18. > :10:19.youngster, the 19-year-old, we look for new names and talents and

:10:20. > :10:26.Denmark might have a pretty good runner on their handset. Yes, two

:10:27. > :10:30.things we saw there, the obvious ability of Maslak but the talent

:10:31. > :10:37.also of Vedel taking the giant Garcia on the line. He judged that

:10:38. > :10:43.very, very well. Garcia will go well -- go through, but the line draw in

:10:44. > :10:48.the final to be confirmed. Maslak goes out so strong and then likes to

:10:49. > :10:53.hold on. He didn't really have to hold on there. He eased up over the

:10:54. > :10:59.line. Vedel getting in there ahead of Garcia on the line. A very good

:11:00. > :11:02.run by Vedel and to make it through to the final act 19 is a very big

:11:03. > :11:09.achievement. Something for Denmark to be proud of and look forward to

:11:10. > :11:15.the years to come. And a personal best for him. 46.6. Just two

:11:16. > :11:19.hundredths ahead of Garcia. Those three three to the final. Of course

:11:20. > :11:28.there can only be three. There are only six lanes in the final. The

:11:29. > :11:41.men's pole vault final is under way and this man, Lisek, the most recent

:11:42. > :11:45.person to join the six metre club. He broke a poll in his last

:11:46. > :11:53.competition. It will be interesting to see what he can clear here. 5.17

:11:54. > :11:58.made to look very easy, of course, for a man who is a six metre jumper.

:11:59. > :12:02.He has improved this season, it would seem. European bronze two

:12:03. > :12:07.years ago. Equal fourth in the Olympics last year. Let's have a

:12:08. > :12:11.look at this. Good, clean effort. Great shots there from the side of

:12:12. > :12:28.the uprights of the bar. Lisek, a great start from him.

:12:29. > :12:39.Holzdeppe has quite some pedigree and is a man to watch. Very

:12:40. > :12:42.comfortable also. It will be a tough match for the medals here at the

:12:43. > :12:52.European indoors. He would have to say this has one of the strongest

:12:53. > :12:56.fields of all events. Holzdeppe, 5.70, very comfortable. Drifting off

:12:57. > :12:58.slightly. Made some slight adjustments in order to go straight

:12:59. > :13:17.up and down. Clearance at 5.70. And this is Kudlicka, a bronze

:13:18. > :13:29.medallist before, and he also goes clear. Close to Kudlicka's seasons

:13:30. > :13:35.best of 5.7 three. He will have to improve on that to get close to the

:13:36. > :13:44.medals, it would seem. The two poles, we have to keep an eye on. We

:13:45. > :13:52.have seen one of them, Lisek. Men's pole vault is heating up. This is

:13:53. > :13:57.what happened earlier. In the warm up. No fault of his own, possibly a

:13:58. > :14:03.damaged pole. It did look as though he scratched his knee and his hand

:14:04. > :14:10.and unfortunately for him, those injuries were too much. He hasn't

:14:11. > :14:15.been able to start here. So, disappointment for the 25-year-old

:14:16. > :14:20.German. Have a look at this, at the biggest point of pressure, that poll

:14:21. > :14:26.just gives way. The shock to him, horrendous. He landed safely, but

:14:27. > :14:37.the cut to his knee, clearly too much for him to continue here at the

:14:38. > :14:38.European indoors. So, ready for the second semifinal of the men's 400

:14:39. > :15:00.metres and this is the line-up: three go through automatically. We

:15:01. > :15:10.have just seen the first semifinal. Alcoa was pretty impressive in his

:15:11. > :15:18.first round. Holzdeppe has been called some very flattering things.

:15:19. > :15:23.I think he got his tactics -- Husillos has been called some very

:15:24. > :15:30.flattering things though I think he got his tactics are little wrong.

:15:31. > :15:33.There is Tesar, took a relay bronze at the European Indoor Championships

:15:34. > :15:39.a couple of years ago in Prague, with a big helping hand from Maslak.

:15:40. > :15:45.And there is Decimus. 29 now, Decimus. Has run 46.89 this season.

:15:46. > :16:03.From the difficult first lane. We did not see Liemarvin Bonevacia.

:16:04. > :16:15.He will be a tough man to beat. Another Spaniard on the outside,

:16:16. > :16:22.Lucas Bua. A Dane, a Spaniard and a cheque athlete going through from

:16:23. > :16:23.the first semifinal. Two Spaniards here. Liemarvin Bonevacia from the

:16:24. > :16:44.Netherlands. A bit of a wait. I can see the

:16:45. > :17:01.starting gun in front of me, firing blanks. I think we are ready now. Or

:17:02. > :17:09.are we? She is looking up at him in disappointed fashion. Nobody is

:17:10. > :17:14.working on it. I think the gun is OK. There might be waiting for the

:17:15. > :17:19.shot put on the far side. They don't want to be put off by anything. A

:17:20. > :17:25.poll vault attempting the pole vault.

:17:26. > :17:38.Someone is playing the piano. This is a long wait. I am not entirely

:17:39. > :17:47.sure for what for the athletes. Diligent raking going on in the pit.

:17:48. > :17:59.Dragging it across. Let me give you a reminder of the line-up. Banish

:18:00. > :18:12.indoor champion Husillos, goes in lane three. Liemarvin Bonevacia in

:18:13. > :18:17.five and Lucas Bua in lane six. Ready. Three to go through to the

:18:18. > :18:27.final tomorrow. The semifinal of the men's 400

:18:28. > :18:50.metres. Finally they go. The build-up to

:18:51. > :18:55.this race is quite something. Lucas Bua went out very strongly in his

:18:56. > :19:01.heat. Now Liemarvin Bonevacia beginning to make a move before they

:19:02. > :19:07.break in the home straight. Desolate of France going very strongly. You

:19:08. > :19:15.can see the effort from Liemarvin Bonevacia. Three to go through.

:19:16. > :19:27.Three to go through only. Lucas Bua in a good position. Tesar is having

:19:28. > :19:30.a tussle with Liemarvin Bonevacia. Liemarvin Bonevacia in front. Lucas

:19:31. > :19:44.Bua comes through. Omelko is through. Three eventually

:19:45. > :19:49.separated themselves. There was a good race up till that point. No

:19:50. > :19:54.dancing from Liemarvin Bonevacia after this one. It was hard work and

:19:55. > :20:01.his heat. I am going to say, I am really disappointed there are no

:20:02. > :20:10.British 400-metre runners in this. The point is, it would have been

:20:11. > :20:18.great to have had somebody here. This is 47 seconds. Omelko tried to

:20:19. > :20:22.get to the front but he could not do it. Lucas Bua sat and cake. You do

:20:23. > :20:32.not often see that in a 400 metres. You should not be able to do that.

:20:33. > :20:41.-- sat and kicked. Tesar went past him. These guys are running 47.2 to

:20:42. > :20:46.get through to the final. These are the three qualifiers from the second

:20:47. > :20:53.semifinal. They go through to the final tomorrow.

:20:54. > :21:02.We are having a cracking time here in Belgrade. Maybe getting going.

:21:03. > :21:07.Throughout the weekend be having a look back at all hour yesterday. How

:21:08. > :21:12.about going back to Birmingham 2007. Albie the venue next year for the

:21:13. > :21:24.world indoors. -- that will be the venue.

:21:25. > :21:43.The men's 60 final. He got a good start. He goes away. Jason Donovan.

:21:44. > :21:52.Absolutely phenomenal! Gold and silver for Great Britain. Really

:21:53. > :21:56.kicking long. He is hanging on. A wonderful show by both these

:21:57. > :22:04.athletes. Kelly is giving it absolutely everything. The world

:22:05. > :22:12.Olympic and European champion. What radiant performance by Kelly but

:22:13. > :22:25.once again Kelly said that in finishes with another silver medal.

:22:26. > :22:31.What does Idowu have today? That is massive. Gold and silver for great

:22:32. > :22:43.written. The women's 400-metre final. -- Great Britain. Sanders, if

:22:44. > :22:49.she maintains this, it would be something special. 23.30 one.

:22:50. > :22:54.Leading on the back straight. They are coming round the top band.

:22:55. > :23:00.Looking strong, looking superb. She will come home with a gold medal for

:23:01. > :23:09.Great Britain. They'll be really close. 50.03. The European champion

:23:10. > :23:19.and a new British record for Nicola Sanders. Great Britain seven and

:23:20. > :23:23.Germany third. The tall, powerful figure goes past Steve Green. He is

:23:24. > :23:30.coming under pressure. Bronze medal position. Russia trying to hold on.

:23:31. > :23:34.The Russian has completely gone. The German will win and Great Britain

:23:35. > :23:40.will take the silver medal. The Russians made, they may, protest.

:23:41. > :23:47.There was contact. No doubt about that. Absolutely no doubt. Great

:23:48. > :23:57.Britain with their biggest medal tally at the European Championships.

:23:58. > :24:01.Some great memories. Nicola Sanders. Still remembering that performance.

:24:02. > :24:04.That is one of the best performances, certainly indoors,

:24:05. > :24:10.from a British athlete. Very impressive indeed. We saw Kelly

:24:11. > :24:18.Somerton. In the background, Jessica Ellis Hill was there. I use this

:24:19. > :24:27.thing? Good. I am definitely listening. -- are you listening? OK.

:24:28. > :24:41.On we go. Two heats of the 3000 metres for men. We did have two

:24:42. > :24:46.athletes. Some of these men had entered the 1500 initially as well

:24:47. > :24:59.and they had to declare. Not as many as the women. Ingebrigtsen, Henrik,

:25:00. > :25:15.is the oldest of the brothers, and he is starting in this one. There

:25:16. > :25:23.are two Kayas as well. We will sort it all out for you. Ali ker in this

:25:24. > :25:37.heat. The final is on Sunday. -- Kaya. Ingebrigtsen in this. Ozdemir

:25:38. > :25:41.of Turkey. I would be interested to see how Ingebrigtsen goes. Running

:25:42. > :25:54.towards us with the shades on, as ever. What a talented family! The

:25:55. > :26:03.youngster is really good as well. They say that Yacoub is the most

:26:04. > :26:11.talented. A lot of distance for the 3,000-metre guys. The two brothers,

:26:12. > :26:15.Henrik and Philip, who will be seeing in Belgrade. They were in

:26:16. > :26:22.South Africa training and popped back home. Neither have raced at all

:26:23. > :26:30.coming in. Henrik has had surgery recently on his foot and has been

:26:31. > :26:34.recovering from that, apparently. That sees some footage of him

:26:35. > :26:44.training. At altitude he looked as if he was going well, going strong.

:26:45. > :26:50.He was carrying a little bit. It is hard. We joke about distance runners

:26:51. > :26:57.it sometimes noticeable that he looks in shape he looks good. Like I

:26:58. > :27:01.said, he does train very high volume for what you would class as a middle

:27:02. > :27:07.distance athlete. If he picks up an injury and is not able to do

:27:08. > :27:11.anything, it is a big change in terms of his calorific expenditure

:27:12. > :27:15.in his training routine. I'm kind of glad to see he was eating healthily

:27:16. > :27:19.to get overly injury and then concentrating on getting back into

:27:20. > :27:25.shape afterwards. I really do not know why they have not got these

:27:26. > :27:28.guys... They got them on the start line and have apologised for the

:27:29. > :27:33.delay. They are running late. They asked them to go off and job a

:27:34. > :27:37.little bit. If you are just joining us, we still have the commendation

:27:38. > :27:43.of the women's pentathlon to come after these 3,000-metre heats.

:27:44. > :27:50.800-metre, the gruelling event after a tough five events for them today.

:27:51. > :28:00.The first two track finals of these championships. The men's and the

:28:01. > :28:07.women's 60 metres hurdles. A pretty good crowd in now. The upper stands

:28:08. > :28:11.are probably two thirds full. The lower stands, a lot of the teams get

:28:12. > :28:16.the chance to come and fill those. Lots of fans coming and following

:28:17. > :28:33.their own country. A fair few British fans here. While we are

:28:34. > :28:40.waiting... Great Britain's Morgan Lake has fouled once at 86 -- 1.8

:28:41. > :28:47.six. She will have to clear this and more to progress to the final

:28:48. > :28:51.tomorrow. Second attempt is better. Better indeed but a failure at the

:28:52. > :29:03.first attempt is not what she would have wanted. 1.93 is the auto

:29:04. > :29:08.qualifier. She is going to need 1.903I would suspect. Carrying a

:29:09. > :29:21.failure but still in the competition. -- 1.93, I would

:29:22. > :29:28.suspect. I think they are ready. We are. I am really not sure what the

:29:29. > :29:33.delay is yet again. I think the athletes are ready, the cameramen

:29:34. > :29:38.are ready. Henrik is having a little look behind. He celebrated his 26th

:29:39. > :29:47.birthday recently. Trademark glasses and moustache. If he ever brings out

:29:48. > :29:54.a T-shirt or something... He would put glasses and a moustache on it.

:29:55. > :29:56.He likes to hide his emotions away from all the competitors. Either

:29:57. > :30:18.that or he just likes to look cool. OK, please, I think we are ready.

:30:19. > :30:22.Just to give you a view stats around this, there are plenty people who

:30:23. > :30:33.could have come here and performed well. Not everyone decides to

:30:34. > :30:52.contest these championships, and a lot of those in the top ten

:30:53. > :30:55.are not here. The Russian athlete is not allowed to compete. The times

:30:56. > :31:00.are not that important though. This 3000m, I think it will be a good

:31:01. > :31:08.race. Qualification will not be easy. You get the good mix of 1500m

:31:09. > :31:22.talent, like fingerprints and, succeeded by his brother in that

:31:23. > :31:25.event. We will see him later. , then you have got youngsters, and the

:31:26. > :31:35.cross-country talent of people like this man here, Ali Kaya. He is the

:31:36. > :31:38.holder of this at the moment. He chose not to contest the

:31:39. > :31:44.cross-country this year, leaving that to his brother. Should be due

:31:45. > :31:51.the transferring thing? No, we have done it plenty of times. A former

:31:52. > :31:57.Kenyan running for Turkey. That rule is currently suspended, whilst they

:31:58. > :32:06.sort it out at last. So, how did is Henrik Ingebrigtsen going to be? We

:32:07. > :32:13.will find out. 3000m, heat one. Indoors, it is 15 laps of the track.

:32:14. > :32:19.It wouldn't always be an event in which the distance runners want to

:32:20. > :32:24.take it on right from the beginning, so they might hold back. Although

:32:25. > :32:28.Ali Kaya moves out straightaway, because Ingebrigtsen doesn't want to

:32:29. > :32:34.take it out too fast. He has got bored hanging around, I think. He

:32:35. > :32:37.probably got a bit frustrated. You see them pushing and shoving on the

:32:38. > :32:42.start line and then they'll start jogging down the back straight and

:32:43. > :32:47.lose the position they had gained. I think I decided he had had enough of

:32:48. > :32:52.this, I will run at a decent pace, string it out a bit and see who

:32:53. > :32:58.would come with him. The answer at the moment is, nobody. He is happy

:32:59. > :33:06.to run his race and they are happy to see if he will drift back towards

:33:07. > :33:11.them or will they just way to content for the three automatic

:33:12. > :33:16.qualifying positions and let Ali Kaya wear himself out of it for the

:33:17. > :33:23.final? He is on European record pace, but this is interesting,

:33:24. > :33:27.because the other Spaniards, again, a cross-country exponent, 23 years

:33:28. > :33:33.of age, probably wants a good pace, but he is now leading the pack.

:33:34. > :33:40.Eventually -- essentially two races. If they let Ali Kaya go, he could

:33:41. > :33:43.slow down, win the race, and that is one place gone. Then the others are

:33:44. > :33:49.running for second, third and fourth. So effectively two races at

:33:50. > :33:54.the moment. This man is leading. Ali Kaya will not slow down. Well, he is

:33:55. > :34:02.already slowing down a little bit. He seemed to gain that both very,

:34:03. > :34:08.very quickly. He doesn't look as if he is moving as quickly as he was in

:34:09. > :34:12.the beginning when he was at 62 second 400. He has not slowed off

:34:13. > :34:16.much though, only two seconds, to give the other guys a chance to

:34:17. > :34:21.start working back towards him. He has slowed down, they have slow down

:34:22. > :34:26.even more. Although it looks strung out behind him, they are letting him

:34:27. > :34:33.get away here and he has now, as you say, after the first 400 that was

:34:34. > :34:40.fast, he has definitely slowed down to kind of 62, something like that.

:34:41. > :34:46.Yes, two minutes 30 43 1000 metres. So now Mayo leading Ingebrigtsen

:34:47. > :34:53.behind him and the Swedish athlete in third place. They are all now in

:34:54. > :35:00.a nice line. It is better than jogging and jostling, so most of

:35:01. > :35:04.them will be enjoying this, but it is a big risk for the Spaniard at

:35:05. > :35:10.the front of that group. The more laps he spends out there and the

:35:11. > :35:16.less he can drop people, the more he put himself under pressure. Yes, and

:35:17. > :35:22.he will be aware of that Felix at the screen. He will be pleased if

:35:23. > :35:27.more people drop off. Not too much damage do it at the moment though,

:35:28. > :35:31.particularly as he has Ingebrigtsen sitting on his shoulder. He is

:35:32. > :35:34.probably very happy with this, comfortable with a pace which is

:35:35. > :35:39.moving along enough to string people out but he doesn't have to expend

:35:40. > :35:46.much energy, saving that for the final when he can use his speed to

:35:47. > :35:53.qualify for the three automatic qualifying spaces. The gap is not

:35:54. > :35:57.getting any bigger now and Ali Kaya is having a little look around. He

:35:58. > :36:04.might be feeling that 62nd first lap. The others are gathering

:36:05. > :36:10.themselves. Isn't it funny, Powell Mayo is saying, give me a bit of

:36:11. > :36:16.help here and they are saying, no, you set yourself up. You did it. I

:36:17. > :36:20.think the gap is actually closing. It has definitely closed from 400

:36:21. > :36:26.metres ago. As you said, Mayo did look like he was saying to the other

:36:27. > :36:31.guys, somebody, come through, but nobody is interested at all. They

:36:32. > :36:34.are very happy for him to be the unofficial pacemaker. Pulling them

:36:35. > :36:39.back towards Ali Kaya. I'm not sure what he thought he was going to

:36:40. > :36:44.achieve that. If he wanted to create a buffer, he needs to maintain it,

:36:45. > :36:58.otherwise he has wasted all of the energy he used setting himself up

:36:59. > :37:02.with a 62nd 400. Well, if the gap of about four seconds. It was a bit

:37:03. > :37:09.more than that. He is getting a bit anxious out there. Once they come

:37:10. > :37:14.three 2000, then with 1000 metres left, that is a big gap. But they

:37:15. > :37:20.could go just one second lap quicker and close that gap quite quickly.

:37:21. > :37:28.Ali Kaya is going to pass through 2000 metres in five minutes 17

:37:29. > :37:33.seconds. That is much slower than the first 1000 metres. The others

:37:34. > :37:37.have slowed as well. But, they have just got sign of him and they might

:37:38. > :37:47.-- him and they might start to reel in. We now see the Italian athlete

:37:48. > :37:50.come round and finally take over from Mayo, drifting off the pace

:37:51. > :37:57.that they wanted him to maintain to get back towards Ali Kaya. Ali Kaya

:37:58. > :38:02.now, as he sees four laps to go, two laps of an outdoor track, he knows

:38:03. > :38:06.that he came maintain and cruise for this next lap and then start winding

:38:07. > :38:14.it up with 600 to go and he should be safe. So, it is the first four

:38:15. > :38:20.and the four fastest losers. Razine is leading the chase. Then Mayo.

:38:21. > :38:23.Then Ingebrigtsen. Then the Austrian, tall figure behind them.

:38:24. > :38:28.Ali Kaya now with a lead of only about two seconds as they come round

:38:29. > :38:34.with 600 metres to go and they are going to reel him in. Does he have

:38:35. > :38:38.anything left here? They have got to get closer and closer. Ingebrigtsen

:38:39. > :38:42.getting ready to launch his big effort. Ozdemir is that the back of

:38:43. > :38:46.that group as well. They have all got a chance here. They are

:38:47. > :38:51.definitely going to reel him in and he has to react. The group that are

:38:52. > :38:57.reeling him in, there are six guys in that group, so they will have to

:38:58. > :39:01.hope they will be the fastest losers, whatever happens to Ali Kaya

:39:02. > :39:04.as they reel him in. Ingebrigtsen starting to get himself into a

:39:05. > :39:09.position where he can react and cover any moves made. They haven't

:39:10. > :39:13.really launched a big kick in this group but there are four of them and

:39:14. > :39:18.there are only for who can go through, so if all four of them were

:39:19. > :39:23.too real Ali Kaya in, he would have to wait and see if he was a fastest

:39:24. > :39:27.loser, because his legs look heavy. There are only five metres between

:39:28. > :39:38.him and the chasing group. It is Ali Kaya leading, then Razine,

:39:39. > :39:45.Ingebrigtsen, Ali Kaya tries to react but one, two, three go past.

:39:46. > :39:50.Ingebrigtsen is not going away here. Just controlling it. Leanderson is

:39:51. > :39:55.on his shoulder, Razine looking. Mayo- up here and Ali Kaya cannot

:39:56. > :40:05.respond. Ingebrigtsen have a look over his shoulder, sees everything

:40:06. > :40:16.is fine, and, well, Ali Kaya, if you run a 62nd -- a 60 second first lap,

:40:17. > :40:21.he is a very good runner, of course he is, he is the defending champion,

:40:22. > :40:29.but he is going to have an anxious wait to see whether he has a chance

:40:30. > :40:35.for one of the fastest four paces. There is no reason why five or six

:40:36. > :40:38.people couldn't go faster in the second heat though. They absolutely

:40:39. > :40:42.cleared and that is the advantage of being in the second heat. I wonder

:40:43. > :40:46.whether Ali Kaya didn't come into this in the shape he has previously

:40:47. > :40:54.been in. I wonder if he thought if he did get outkicked, he would have

:40:55. > :40:57.a better chance of qualifying at the fastest qualifier. He got knocked

:40:58. > :41:04.and that the changes momentum but I don't think he was ever going to be

:41:05. > :41:08.able to keep up with them. Mayo was particularly happy because he was

:41:09. > :41:12.the guy who was pacesetting and looked like he was feeling the

:41:13. > :41:24.strain. This is a big step up for him, into senior races, and to make

:41:25. > :41:28.a final at 3000m as well. Well, going in the next heat is Nick

:41:29. > :41:35.Goolab, some of you watching in Birmingham may remember him. Running

:41:36. > :41:40.in the 5000 that, the race run by -- won by Mo Farah, but he chose to run

:41:41. > :41:45.the 3000 within that. He was trying to impress the qualifiers, get the

:41:46. > :41:50.standard. The selectors that he had done enough, they Goolab here to

:41:51. > :41:54.take his chance. As Steve and Paula were saying, they know the time is

:41:55. > :42:01.required now. Nick Goolab knows he is capable of running that. We shall

:42:02. > :42:12.see how he goes. Some very strong runners in this one as well. Ebrahim

:42:13. > :42:20.as well. So, work cut out for Goolab. Looking at the time is

:42:21. > :42:24.coming in from that first heat. What will they require to go through?

:42:25. > :42:32.Eight minutes four seconds at the moment. There is the result at the

:42:33. > :42:36.moment. Ali Kaya's time is the important one at the moment.

:42:37. > :42:42.Essentially, eight men could go faster than seven minutes 56 and go

:42:43. > :42:51.through. They just need some good steady pace early on and job done. I

:42:52. > :42:55.am not confident that this race is runny -- this race is ready to go.

:42:56. > :43:00.The runners look ready but we have seen of late that races have a habit

:43:01. > :43:08.of being held. I think we are just about ready. We can see the Spanish

:43:09. > :43:19.athlete, a former Moroccan, who will be very strong as well. Serbian

:43:20. > :43:29.involvement for Makevic. And Thomas Carter, the Irish athlete, who ran

:43:30. > :43:34.lower than the qualifying time in Cambridge, Massachusetts a few weeks

:43:35. > :43:39.ago. He will be hoping for qualification. Four will go through

:43:40. > :43:46.automatically and for fastest losers. My father is called Tom

:43:47. > :43:51.Carter but I'm pretty sure that's not him. It would be huge surprise

:43:52. > :44:04.to see a 74-year-old in lane two, but don't rule it out. He is hugely

:44:05. > :44:05.competitive. Richard Ringer, the German, he will certainly be

:44:06. > :44:20.competitive. There is Mechaal, and a legion

:44:21. > :44:31.strand ree, although he has been living in Spain since 1995. --

:44:32. > :44:37.another allegiance trance very. And there is Ibrahimov, formerly of

:44:38. > :44:41.Ethiopia. Someone else who has transferred. And there will be

:44:42. > :44:51.slightly more noise for Makevic. Here we go. Serbian indoor

:44:52. > :44:56.record-holder over 5000 metres. Studying at the University of

:44:57. > :45:04.Louisiana. That's a much better crowd in this evening.

:45:05. > :45:13.So, Nick Goolab, the Belgrave Harrier is there in the second rank

:45:14. > :45:18.of athletes alongside the youngster, Crippa, who you might recognise him.

:45:19. > :45:21.He has a very good cross-country record, Crippa. Twice European

:45:22. > :45:29.junior cross country champion. And going here in this men's 3000m, the

:45:30. > :45:33.second of the first-round heats, effectively semi-finals, for

:45:34. > :45:35.Sunday's final. Four to go through automatically and the four fastest

:45:36. > :45:39.losers. Paula Radcliffe will be keeping a very keen eye on the pace

:45:40. > :45:44.as well, because that was a brave, crazy effort in the first race, but

:45:45. > :45:48.it did spin it along at a decent lick for some of them, but certainly

:45:49. > :45:53.an opportunity for some to go through here at a fastest loser.

:45:54. > :45:57.Yes, there is a huge opportunity as we see Arras Kaya go through to the

:45:58. > :46:01.fund but at a much more sensible pace. He is trying to get it moving,

:46:02. > :46:04.which is really what Ali Kaya should have done. These guys have the

:46:05. > :46:08.advantage of knowing the time they have do run. They are well capable

:46:09. > :46:15.of working together, taking turns that the band and keeping it ticking

:46:16. > :46:16.over and moving along about 753, 754 pace, being able to come to be

:46:17. > :46:28.qualified. Nine in this field have gone below

:46:29. > :46:39.eight minutes. Kaya leading them out. Gulag sitting back. They are --

:46:40. > :46:46.Nick Goolab sitting back. He is in about ninth position at the moment.

:46:47. > :46:51.Not blisteringly quick. They know exactly what they have to do. They

:46:52. > :46:56.know the pace they have to go to run under eight minutes and take their

:46:57. > :47:00.chances. There are a few guys in that pack hoping someone's nerve

:47:01. > :47:06.will crack before theirs to get the pace moving a bit. Aras Kaya is

:47:07. > :47:11.sitting there, moving enough to react little bit of making it

:47:12. > :47:20.difficult for anyone to come round and start to wind up the pace. You

:47:21. > :47:32.may have seen the high jumpers on the infield. The hugely impressive

:47:33. > :47:41.Olympic champion from Rio. The bar now 1.90. Oh, yes. 2017 looks it

:47:42. > :47:52.will go in the same way as 16 did for the Spanish impressive athlete

:47:53. > :47:56.indeed. Fourth attempt at the Olympics she won gold. A perfect

:47:57. > :48:03.clean sheet so far. The only athlete so far to be clear at 1.90 into

:48:04. > :48:10.first place. Some treatment on her shoulder. Morgan Lake to match the

:48:11. > :48:15.same height. Morgan Lake goes clear. I said questions were being asked.

:48:16. > :48:20.It looks as though she has the answers. Morgan Lake, world junior

:48:21. > :48:30.champion in this event. Clear at 1.90.

:48:31. > :48:50.Simic from Croatia, also clear. The automatic qualification is 1.93 for

:48:51. > :49:04.the final. At the moment Morgan Lake is in it along with Simic and Ruth

:49:05. > :49:12.Beita. Morgan Lake currently in third place. While that was going on

:49:13. > :49:24.Nick Delap made move. The Kenyon is out in front. Nick Goolab made quite

:49:25. > :49:31.a big move to lift the pace. He went to the front. Mechaal had gone to

:49:32. > :49:39.the front before that but did not pick it up enough. Nick Goolab was

:49:40. > :49:43.conscious of the time. They went through a lot quicker in the first

:49:44. > :49:47.heat. Still quicker than 2.45 of that they do need to get moving and

:49:48. > :49:54.keep moving. Now it seems that three, four will help a little bit

:49:55. > :50:02.to keep the pace moving. Mechaal just steadying himself. Six and a

:50:03. > :50:07.half laps remaining. Nick Goolab in a decent position. Four will go

:50:08. > :50:11.through automatically goes back is the ideal scenario for the Belgrave

:50:12. > :50:15.Harrier was that just about at the qualifying standard. He was given

:50:16. > :50:22.the nod after his effort in the 5000 metres race. Mechaal in second

:50:23. > :50:32.place. A high-quality athlete running for Spain now. Aris Caer, I

:50:33. > :50:36.do not know if he is trying to do with team-mate a favour by keeping

:50:37. > :50:42.it slow but he gets at the front and slows it down again. I think we will

:50:43. > :50:49.see them come up to the 2,000-metre mark. They are definitely slower

:50:50. > :50:53.than the pack. They need to be in with a chance for fastest losers got

:50:54. > :51:00.a bit silly that these guys to let themselves be dictated to. Kaya will

:51:01. > :51:06.be able to kick. They could have a much better chance by moving past

:51:07. > :51:13.him making it a long run for home. The pack had started to stretch out.

:51:14. > :51:19.Someone down. Is it the Swede who has gone down? That was the danger.

:51:20. > :51:28.Icahn is a teen to close together as the pace dropped and Ek has paid the

:51:29. > :51:45.price. Nick Goolab is still in fifth place. At the moment, Ibrahimov is

:51:46. > :51:48.in the front. Cruel fortune for Ek. He will try to complete the race

:51:49. > :51:58.anyway. They will be looking at that as the race goes on. Mechaal starts

:51:59. > :52:01.to lift the pace again. Nick Goolab came out of the fall OK and was

:52:02. > :52:06.ahead of it. He was not affected like other runners. Tomas Cotter had

:52:07. > :52:11.to hurdle in front of him and did well to stay on his speed. I think

:52:12. > :52:16.he has been affected by it because he is drifting backwards. That bunch

:52:17. > :52:20.had got away from it as a bunch of six in which four can automatically

:52:21. > :52:31.qualify. The other two need to run faster. It was roundabout 8.04 for

:52:32. > :52:37.the slower of the fastest losers. Four now pulling away from Nick

:52:38. > :52:41.Goolab. Four going through automatically, four fastest losers.

:52:42. > :52:55.The four fastest losers from the first heat, 7.56, 7.59 and 8.0 four.

:52:56. > :53:00.The Swede went down. These four have separated themselves. Mechaal is

:53:01. > :53:06.able to look around. They are reasonably comfortable. It is

:53:07. > :53:15.Ibrahimov, Kaya, Mechaal and Richard ringer. They are clear. What does

:53:16. > :53:22.Nick Goolab have? Nick Goolab is in sixth place at the moment. The

:53:23. > :53:32.victory goes to Ibrahimov. Crippa finishes quickly in fifth. Nick

:53:33. > :53:38.gulag comes across in 8.0 to. I think he is out. Unfortunately, he

:53:39. > :53:42.just could not respond. Crippa saw the clock and kicked as far as he

:53:43. > :53:50.could. I think he has sneaked comfortably in. I do not think that

:53:51. > :53:54.Nick Goolab will be quick enough. He gave it everything he had but did

:53:55. > :53:57.not have enough left on the last lap to build to hang on to the

:53:58. > :54:01.coat-tails of Crippa ahead of him and keep fighting right to the line

:54:02. > :54:11.for the fastest loser qualifying position. The four outright

:54:12. > :54:16.qualifiers are comfortable. Richard Ringer looking good. They were quite

:54:17. > :54:23.happy to let Kaya run hard for the line. He is given the unfortunate

:54:24. > :54:28.position of fifth fastest loser. -- Ibrahimov run hard for the line.

:54:29. > :54:32.They might make it a 13 man final if the Swede makes a complaint. It will

:54:33. > :54:37.have a look that incident again when the Swede went down. Nick Goolab

:54:38. > :54:46.just missing out in the men's 3000 metres. That was unfortunate for

:54:47. > :54:55.Nick Goolab. He gave it his very best shot. He has had the time of

:54:56. > :55:03.7.53 in Birmingham and was unable to reproduce that here was missing out

:55:04. > :55:07.on the final in the 3000 metres. So, not to be for Nick Goolab full study

:55:08. > :55:16.is not going through to the final tomorrow. -- Nick Goolab. Let's hear

:55:17. > :55:20.from him now. Thank you. I suppose a sense of disappointment. You had the

:55:21. > :55:26.final within your grasp and it was taken at the last. I did not have

:55:27. > :55:29.the change of gears. I tried to go with it but did not have the gears.

:55:30. > :55:37.I could not react as quickly as them. Disappointing but it was good

:55:38. > :55:41.to make the team anyway. Tell me what it was like for you being on

:55:42. > :55:45.the team and being on the stage for the first time. Coming in knowing

:55:46. > :55:51.what you had to do in second heat. When I went to the lead, I tried to

:55:52. > :56:00.kick out but my legs were not going anywhere. I was running as far as I

:56:01. > :56:03.could. I tried everything and ran to my absolute best. Unfortunately it

:56:04. > :56:11.was not good enough. I suppose you want more. Definitely. Sunday will

:56:12. > :56:17.not happen but I will have to go away and train hard and try to be

:56:18. > :56:24.better. All the best going forward. Thank you. Take care. The result of

:56:25. > :56:32.the second semifinal in the men's 3000 metres, through to the final

:56:33. > :56:45.automatically go Ibrahimov, Kaya and Mechaal. Nick Goolab just misses out

:56:46. > :56:49.on the final. I am delighted to say I am more relaxed. Too much

:56:50. > :56:53.sprinting between the studio and the commentary box. I am too old for

:56:54. > :56:59.that sort of thing was that I am delighted to say joining me here is

:57:00. > :57:02.Gabby Logan. Where have you been? Obviously we are in the middle of

:57:03. > :57:07.the Six Nations. I got on the plane to Edinburgh and it's not a Six

:57:08. > :57:12.Nations weekend. I made it here eventually. Only joking. I wanted to

:57:13. > :57:20.watch from home and see how it was all going. I am delighted to be here

:57:21. > :57:24.and be part of the team. I did watch a bit this morning and was following

:57:25. > :57:29.on social media this afternoon. The things I want to pick up on, a

:57:30. > :57:36.slightly slow start in terms of the technical gremlins in the works. A

:57:37. > :57:41.few gremlins. A lot of false starts from the morning session. Some

:57:42. > :57:45.faulty starts as well. Things were rough and rugged. Finally, good

:57:46. > :57:52.performances have started to take shape. The pentathlon is coming up

:57:53. > :57:56.to its denouement shortly. The Olympic champion has been smashing

:57:57. > :58:00.everything all day and performing like that champion. She is walking

:58:01. > :58:06.around like the Olympic champion and everyone knows it. Some good

:58:07. > :58:11.performances from her. 1.96 and indoor personal best. She is really

:58:12. > :58:17.excelling. In terms of schools, she is not that far away from being a

:58:18. > :58:20.5000 points score. It'll be interesting to see how she

:58:21. > :58:29.approaches the 800 metres. She will have to run a to score 5000 points.

:58:30. > :58:32.That will make her the best ever, or maybe second best ever. Will she

:58:33. > :58:39.settled for a medal or push herself for the score? It is the second heat

:58:40. > :58:44.when the medallists will appear. Plenty more coming up for you this

:58:45. > :58:47.evening was we could see the first medal of the Chapel chips for Great

:58:48. > :58:59.Britain. It is the men's hurdles final. -- the championships. Loads

:59:00. > :59:03.to look forward to. Andy Pozzi running three of the fastest times

:59:04. > :59:08.this year. He has absolutely found his form. He has been beset with

:59:09. > :59:14.injuries are never been able to get the consistency. Is this where it

:59:15. > :59:20.starts? We have Tom Lancashire going in the 1500 metre race just after

:59:21. > :59:26.6:15 p.m.. Then it is the women's 60-metre hurdles final. Medals on

:59:27. > :59:29.offer this evening here in Belgrade. We're indoors, so it makes no

:59:30. > :59:35.difference. One thing that struck me when I got off the plane, apparently

:59:36. > :59:41.it is summer here. I have been looking all week, what is the

:59:42. > :59:51.attempt to like? It has been 22, 19 degrees that this is the place to

:59:52. > :00:00.be. Inside, it is absolutely clear that Thiam is the top athlete to

:00:01. > :00:06.watch. We were looking at athletes and she was the interloper, who came

:00:07. > :00:11.in and performed with such poise and such maturity through the whole

:00:12. > :00:15.Olympic Games. With high PB is we knew she had this talent, this war

:00:16. > :00:24.damage was now bringing to the big stage. We have seen the change.

:00:25. > :00:29.Horribly a year early. -- probably a year early. If she had stayed here

:00:30. > :00:35.probably just would have got the goal. Much better hurdling. This was

:00:36. > :00:41.one of her weaker events. Running much better with her trail leg. That

:00:42. > :00:45.kind of thing. Hopefully if she continues that then you will start

:00:46. > :00:51.to see her pick up more points. Let's not forget, she is a 6800

:00:52. > :00:57.point Getafe. 7000 points is the magic figure. In the high jump she

:00:58. > :01:02.has not been doing a regular high jump. She has been rotating. Once

:01:03. > :01:06.you know how to high jump, it you high jump. This is her strength, in

:01:07. > :01:10.the throwing, a phenomenal athlete that this is the second round throat

:01:11. > :01:19.and she throws it out way beyond 15 metres. -- throat. The first round

:01:20. > :01:20.just opened up. The third round she got anxious, which is the youth in

:01:21. > :01:28.her. guard and she's got fantastic

:01:29. > :01:35.technique. She has long levers. It works for her. Where she has been

:01:36. > :01:39.improving as her running. She looked lacklustre on the running, for some

:01:40. > :01:44.way. Maybe it's moving from one event to be next on the day, I don't

:01:45. > :01:47.know. She was behind the board on the first. That would have been a

:01:48. > :01:57.much better jump than the one she ended up with. Which was, what,

:01:58. > :02:03.6.36? 6.37? And of course, Katarina Johnson-Thompson wasn't going to be

:02:04. > :02:07.appearing hair as multi-event, as she's injured, which is

:02:08. > :02:12.disappointing for her as the defending champion. I think it was

:02:13. > :02:19.sensible for her not to come because she has banks drink problem, so to

:02:20. > :02:28.come here and maybe stressed that just for the high jump, that would

:02:29. > :02:32.be. But Morgan Lake is here and not performing in the Hat Aplon. Again,

:02:33. > :02:38.focusing on the high jump qualification at the moment. Is that

:02:39. > :02:42.a surprising decision for you? I think there is some scar tissue in

:02:43. > :02:48.there for her mentally. We have seen have allowed a couple of times

:02:49. > :02:51.through injury. She has changed her training setup. She is working in

:02:52. > :02:55.Loughborough. I am sure she is taking lots of new instruction and

:02:56. > :02:59.that sometimes takes a little while to embed. I think it's a sensible

:03:00. > :03:04.decision, coming here just to long jump. She long jumped out in Rio

:03:05. > :03:08.last year. It's an event she was unique -- world junior champion in

:03:09. > :03:18.and she is comfortable in this arena. Going forward, yes I would

:03:19. > :03:23.like to see her do more heptathlon, she has some serious unfinished

:03:24. > :03:26.business there. I was reading that she is doing psychology at

:03:27. > :03:30.Loughborough and not only do that she is enjoying something to

:03:31. > :03:33.distract them mentally, but psychology is helping her understand

:03:34. > :03:38.herself better as well. I think she put a lot of pressure on her own

:03:39. > :03:41.shoulders with the expectation, being part of the heptathlon

:03:42. > :03:47.dynasty, thinking that she had to go out there and can -- perform, and

:03:48. > :03:51.yes she did, but it was high expectations too soon. She is still

:03:52. > :03:58.only 19 and when she starts feeling good about herself, I think shall be

:03:59. > :04:03.great in the heptathlon. She jumped 1.90 in qualifying today, so she

:04:04. > :04:09.will get a huge amount of confidence from that. Pushing herself towards a

:04:10. > :04:13.medal, maybe? A medal here would be a tall order but getting through to

:04:14. > :04:21.the final, being confident and having confidence will be an

:04:22. > :04:29.important thing. We don't want to push her to far. 1.93 would be the

:04:30. > :04:33.automatic qualification and that's close to her personal best. The

:04:34. > :04:37.thing with youth, a she's been doing a lot of sport in terms of

:04:38. > :04:43.heptathlon for a long time, so she's probably much more mature than we

:04:44. > :04:45.give her credit for. I know she is 19, a chronological figure, but

:04:46. > :04:50.she's been in the senior team quite a bit, though she knows her way

:04:51. > :04:56.around. Both the athletes, Katarina and Morgan have got new coaching

:04:57. > :05:00.regimes and I think Denise is right. It takes a couple of winters for

:05:01. > :05:06.that to bed in. Then let's give them a chance. Let's not ask too much of

:05:07. > :05:14.them too soon. I understand Katarina is enjoying her new setup? Yes, I

:05:15. > :05:18.think she is in a happier place now. The new setup, as Tony said, it will

:05:19. > :05:23.take time. There's a lot for her to work on, even though she is coming

:05:24. > :05:27.into the season knowing what she would like to achieve, what she know

:05:28. > :05:32.she can achieve, and it's about marrying BT. Her physical state and

:05:33. > :05:36.her mental state of bringing that to the fore. She will be watching

:05:37. > :05:41.what's going on here in pentathlon and will be chomping at the big

:05:42. > :05:50.thing, I want to be out there. What can we expect from Heard this year?

:05:51. > :06:05.-- can we expect from her this year? London is an amazing stage from her

:06:06. > :06:11.-- for her. I think we haven't seen enough from her. She is in a good

:06:12. > :06:16.place with the scoring she has been doing. Going to the Olympic Games as

:06:17. > :06:21.young as she did and now she has been to two. What I have seen

:06:22. > :06:27.indoors in terms of long jump, she would come out with very tired legs,

:06:28. > :06:31.so a little bit fresher, yes, she has long jumped further, but it is

:06:32. > :06:35.difficult to make any assumptions with whatever else is going on with

:06:36. > :06:40.the growing, with everything else, but she knows what she is doing. She

:06:41. > :06:45.has been in the event long enough. Now is the time to step up. The

:06:46. > :06:50.event is wide open for her to get in there and make medals and podium. Of

:06:51. > :06:57.course, Nafi Thiam will be going in the final event of that heptathlon

:06:58. > :07:04.very shortly. There is a great pole vault competition going on. Bring us

:07:05. > :07:11.up to speed. It has been pretty spectacular so far. We have seen

:07:12. > :07:15.breaking pals in the warm up. This man, from Greece, has been

:07:16. > :07:24.spectacular as well. This was 5.85 metres, a national record for him.

:07:25. > :07:31.He is in second place at the moment. We have got champions indoors and

:07:32. > :07:39.outdoors competing. Peter Lisette, a six meter man from this winter, the

:07:40. > :07:44.poll as we see the Greek go clear with that new national record. What

:07:45. > :07:54.a time to do that. That is likely to get him onto the podium, I would

:07:55. > :07:57.think, looking down at the failures. The German and French athletes are

:07:58. > :08:11.both out with three failures at this height. And here is Lisek, looking

:08:12. > :08:18.very determined indeed. Got a big back support on, I noticed. 5.8

:08:19. > :08:25.five. Oh, yes. He is the man in form. I think he's quite pleased

:08:26. > :08:28.with that. That's his first-time clearance at 5.85 and because of the

:08:29. > :08:35.count back, that takes him into the lead. Let's have a look at this.

:08:36. > :08:40.Very tall. That back support, you can see that black band around his

:08:41. > :08:45.waist. He is a very tall man, with the kind of forces going through his

:08:46. > :08:50.body. As a tall pole vault, he carries a long pole, strongman, very

:08:51. > :08:55.athletic. He knows he is six metres at best. 5.85 might be enough for

:08:56. > :08:58.gold here though. Maybe a change of polls of that as he gets ready for

:08:59. > :09:21.the next height of 5.90. So, the shot putt was concluded

:09:22. > :09:34.earlier. A big shout from her. A silver medallist two years ago.

:09:35. > :09:44.And the bronze medallist from two years ago. A switch of places. She

:09:45. > :09:54.upgraded with a lifetime best. That was 18.36 metres for the Bulgarian

:09:55. > :10:05.athlete. So, bronze switches to Silver, a slight upgrade, but behind

:10:06. > :10:12.this athlete, dominant from the start, Marton. The final throw of

:10:13. > :10:17.the competition for hire and way beyond 19 metres. A world lead for

:10:18. > :10:27.the Hungarian. A successful defence of her Indo-European title. --

:10:28. > :10:33.indoor European title. Well, a successful defence is always a

:10:34. > :10:43.pleasure and Marton of Hungary has done just that with a world lead to

:10:44. > :10:53.beat. What a great day for her. Right then. We saw Lisek go clear at

:10:54. > :10:59.5.8 five. This is his team-mate. He is going for the same height, with

:11:00. > :11:06.two fouls. Third attempt, goes clear. Well, we said the two Polish

:11:07. > :11:12.athletes would be contenders for the title

:11:13. > :11:24.and the European silver medallist, a surprise admittedly, have got some

:11:25. > :11:31.championship pedigree, showing us what he is made of in the past and

:11:32. > :11:35.he has shown it again. His last chance to deliver and he did. 5.78

:11:36. > :11:43.what is this pars-mac best but he has improved that with his 5.85

:11:44. > :11:53.clearance. Five athletes remain. The medals, still to be decided. The

:11:54. > :12:03.final of the Habitat: is upon us and Nafi Thiam has just ran out into the

:12:04. > :12:11.arena -- the final of the heptathlon is upon us. The question is, will

:12:12. > :12:19.she go for broke and try to smash records, or will Ivona Dadic just

:12:20. > :12:26.trot round and take the plaudits. You know what, I say to my athletes,

:12:27. > :12:34.you seldom stand on the brink of opportunity. Going over 5000 points

:12:35. > :12:39.is not easy. For years, Carolyn applied didn't manage it. Would it

:12:40. > :12:42.tell us something about her at the competitor, whether she does go for

:12:43. > :12:47.the 5000 points and goes hell for leather? I think you are right. I

:12:48. > :12:52.think she should go for it. If you have the opportunity, you are in the

:12:53. > :12:58.mix, that close proximity that you can't just sniffed that 5000, you

:12:59. > :13:07.have got to go for it. OK, well let's head to our commentary box.

:13:08. > :13:12.Andrew Cotter is calling this one. There is far cat. She is in third

:13:13. > :13:17.place at the moment. She is in a battle with Dadic. They are

:13:18. > :13:21.separated by just 20 points, about 1.5 seconds. This woman, Nafi Thiam

:13:22. > :13:26.is a long way clear and it is all about her chasing down the 5000

:13:27. > :13:31.points. This is not her strongest event by any stretch of the

:13:32. > :13:36.imagination but if she runs two minutes 15, she will get close to

:13:37. > :13:44.5000 points. That is a big ask of Nafi Thiam. She is not a quick 800

:13:45. > :13:47.metre runner. She is not but she has been nothing short of brilliant

:13:48. > :13:53.today, right from the get go in the hurdles. Shot put, long jump, but

:13:54. > :14:00.this, not her best event, as you say. She knows the gold medal is

:14:01. > :14:05.hers. 2.14, a world record, way beyond her lifetime best. The battle

:14:06. > :14:11.really is for silver and bronze and the athlete that the front there. We

:14:12. > :14:15.have got far cast in bronze medal position at the moment, being

:14:16. > :14:22.tracked by Dadic who has also been brilliant, with personal bests in

:14:23. > :14:28.each event. Yes, far cat leading them out at the moment and we saw

:14:29. > :14:33.briefly Dadic, who they would try to keep up with. We can look at Thiam

:14:34. > :14:37.and the someone who looks like they are ambling around. She is a big,

:14:38. > :14:41.powerful athlete. Her strength comes in the other events. You saw how

:14:42. > :14:45.strong she is, how incredibly impressive she is in the high jump

:14:46. > :14:50.and she had a very good shot put as well. She was off to a flyer in the

:14:51. > :14:54.60m hurdles as well. The 800 is the one eventually could improve but

:14:55. > :14:58.then she has that power and strength, so perhaps it will never

:14:59. > :15:06.be harassment. She does have a 400 metre lifetime best of 68.9, so that

:15:07. > :15:10.is some sprint finish. But to be wildly optimistic. As they hear the

:15:11. > :15:18.bell, Thiam, one hand of the gold medal. It will be interesting to see

:15:19. > :15:22.how silver and bronze go. Dadic has got silver medal at the moment and

:15:23. > :15:28.I'm not sure that far cat can overhaul her. I think the silver

:15:29. > :15:32.medal will go to Dadic and the gold is certainly going to this woman,

:15:33. > :15:39.who is being left a long, long way behind the rest. The 800 metres is

:15:40. > :15:43.not her speciality and the 800 metres will be taken by Ivona Dadic,

:15:44. > :15:50.feeling had the silver medal. Gyorgyi Zsivoczky-Farkas has got the

:15:51. > :15:56.bronze. And leave the stage clear for this woman, not a great time,

:15:57. > :16:00.not 5000 points, but a gold medal for Nafi Thiam, adding to the

:16:01. > :16:04.Olympic title, European in daughter title. She is the outstanding multi

:16:05. > :16:08.event in the world right now and as we talked about earlier, Katarina

:16:09. > :16:10.Johnson-Thompson will be looking forward to trying to challenge her

:16:11. > :16:14.at the world Championships in London. But for now, Nafi Thiam is

:16:15. > :16:23.untouchable. A fantastic performance for me. We

:16:24. > :16:30.wondered what the Olympic champion mantle was going to do to her. Dadic

:16:31. > :16:35.has had a great day. Katarina Johnson Thomson watching on full

:16:36. > :16:42.stop she was champion here two years ago with 5000 points, more than

:16:43. > :16:46.Thiam has accumulated today. That is the biggest ever winning margin,

:16:47. > :16:55.more than Thiam has been able to produce here. Being interviewed flat

:16:56. > :17:01.on her back. Jessica Ennis-Hill has retired and sport needs good

:17:02. > :17:12.rivalries. You can see Thiam and Katarina Johnson Thomson with that

:17:13. > :17:17.rivalry. They are multi-events and we have a great tradition, of

:17:18. > :17:23.course, across the years. Shame we have no one representing us here but

:17:24. > :17:36.Thiam is the rising new staff. Last year in Rio, the unofficial score of

:17:37. > :17:43.4870. That goes into fourth on the world all-time list as far as I can

:17:44. > :17:50.see behind the world record-holder, Katarina Johnson Thomson from two

:17:51. > :17:57.years ago and the ration. Just ahead of Jessica Ennis-Hill. The time does

:17:58. > :18:06.not really matter. It does stress again, particularly in doors, that

:18:07. > :18:14.she is not a great 800-metre runner. Zsivocky-Farkas in third place and

:18:15. > :18:15.Thiam is still only 22. She is the European indoor champion in the

:18:16. > :18:34.Pentax lan. -- pentathlon. Thiam, as we were discussing

:18:35. > :18:39.beforehand but will she go for it or jog it round? A slight difference of

:18:40. > :18:42.opinion in the studio. You thought her performance was very

:18:43. > :18:48.interesting, a chink in her armour. They were your words. I think so but

:18:49. > :18:54.if you look at the events that have improved by this one has not. If she

:18:55. > :18:58.has gone away and work on her weaknesses, she can make herself

:18:59. > :19:02.pretty much invincible and she would have embraced the 800 metres more. I

:19:03. > :19:10.have not seen and she went straight to ground. It was a great score. You

:19:11. > :19:15.do not read as much into it? I really do not. What she did in Rio

:19:16. > :19:21.says she is able to take it up a notch and set a personal best. She

:19:22. > :19:26.is not happy in the 800 metres back has made great improvements. It is a

:19:27. > :19:32.chink because if she comes up against the likes of Kat, who will

:19:33. > :19:40.run health leather when she needs to, that becomes a problem. I do not

:19:41. > :19:46.read too much into that. She got her gold, together with her Olympic gold

:19:47. > :19:51.medal. A good job. It is that balance is always in the heptathlon.

:19:52. > :19:55.You do not see an improvement in the 800. There has been improvements

:19:56. > :20:00.across other events. You need the power but you also need to keep the

:20:01. > :20:08.endurance events as well and you need to be going up. For me, if you

:20:09. > :20:12.have improved in those areas, as she has got stronger cut she looks

:20:13. > :20:17.physically more robust. Has that added weight she cannot carry round

:20:18. > :20:23.the 800 metres? That is the thing is that if you look at someone might

:20:24. > :20:29.Katarina, who can easily run 2.11, regardless of what you do, you may

:20:30. > :20:33.have ten, 11 seconds, and that is a lot of points to be able to take out

:20:34. > :20:39.of somebody in the last event. It means if you can stay close or put

:20:40. > :20:42.her under pressure, you are in. Katarina will be looking at that and

:20:43. > :20:46.thinking that is interesting, especially when you're trying to win

:20:47. > :20:53.a World Championship. I don't know. I hear you but I really think... I

:20:54. > :21:02.know. This is where the bat. Is. It is OK. You are wrong. Kat knows what

:21:03. > :21:10.she has to do. When it comes down to it, she knows it is the throes she

:21:11. > :21:16.needs to work on. She has 200 points in one event alone as personal bests

:21:17. > :21:21.stand. So, I think it is always a balancing act. I still think that

:21:22. > :21:31.Kat needs to make sure she has no weaknesses. This girl, let's say, a

:21:32. > :21:41.weakness in the 800. Kat is a 13.4 hurdler. She is close to 6.19, 17

:21:42. > :21:45.long jumper. They are huge points. That is what I mean for that you can

:21:46. > :21:50.put her under pressure with those sprints. We will leave it there for

:21:51. > :21:58.now. A fascinating debate and we will get back onto the track for the

:21:59. > :22:08.start of the men's 1500 heats. In the first heat is Tom Lancashire, of

:22:09. > :22:12.protege of Steve Cram. Tom is in this first heat. There are three of

:22:13. > :22:18.them. All athletes think they have drawn the tough ones. Tom thinks out

:22:19. > :22:24.of the three this may be that tough first. And it is the first heat.

:22:25. > :22:28.That may be an advantage but with fastest loser spot available there

:22:29. > :22:39.is a decision to be made for all of these athletes. This is Selmouni who

:22:40. > :22:43.beat Lancashire on the line. He will be one to watch. Probably the most

:22:44. > :22:58.interesting one will be Filip Ingebrigtsen. He is

:22:59. > :23:04.the middle brother of the three full stop the German champion on the

:23:05. > :23:10.inside as well. One or two others to look out for. Plenty for Tom

:23:11. > :23:19.Lancashire to think about here. He won't be too happy that they have

:23:20. > :23:26.gone off at a pedestrian jog. This is the first heat. This pace is

:23:27. > :23:31.moving along quicker now and giving the guys chance to give themselves

:23:32. > :23:38.every chance and not set themselves up to be shot at and shot out of the

:23:39. > :23:48.qualifying positions. Thankfully, the pace has picked up. Tom has

:23:49. > :23:49.slaughtered in behind him. The French athlete is also a danger to

:23:50. > :24:03.Tom. He is probably thinking he has come

:24:04. > :24:10.to the European Championships and does not want to jog for seven and a

:24:11. > :24:16.half laps. Tom Mangan sheet in second place. It will turn into a

:24:17. > :24:20.bit of a kick. It'll be interesting to see what shape Filip Ingebrigtsen

:24:21. > :24:24.is in full cannot think he will be here if he did not think he had a

:24:25. > :24:29.chance of getting to the final and getting a medal. With it being as

:24:30. > :24:34.slow as it is, fastest loser spot with two more races to come might be

:24:35. > :24:39.difficult. They are not going at a quick pace at all. It is slow for

:24:40. > :24:46.guys of this calibre. Tom Lancashire as they come round now with four

:24:47. > :24:50.laps to go. He is in second place. Filip Ingebrigtsen just moving up.

:24:51. > :24:56.He will have done a fair amount of his training with his older brother,

:24:57. > :25:00.Henrik. I think he has come here in decent shape and he has certainly

:25:01. > :25:05.taken his time at the back of this field. He seems very confident as

:25:06. > :25:09.Tom Lancashire moves to the front. He quickly reacts to try to cover

:25:10. > :25:22.that. We'll Tom wind up from here on in? Not a bad thing to do. He is

:25:23. > :25:28.there to be shot at. Paniagua from Spain has moved up. A bit of

:25:29. > :25:34.pressure on the front. Plenty of them in with a good chance. Only two

:25:35. > :25:38.to qualify. Tom Lancashire, as they come and this time two laps to go.

:25:39. > :25:45.That is 400 metres he will want to keep the pressure on. They are quite

:25:46. > :25:49.well strung out. Lancashire leading from Selmouni. The German also may

:25:50. > :25:54.be quickly to latch itself onto the back of the group. They are trying

:25:55. > :25:58.to break away. Tom is definitely trying to pull them away he needs to

:25:59. > :26:03.see some more daylight opening up behind him to give him some

:26:04. > :26:08.confidence. He is doing a good job. They are well stretched out behind.

:26:09. > :26:13.Tom Lancashire with 200 metres to go. Selmouni and then a bit of a

:26:14. > :26:18.gap. Filip Ingebrigtsen looks like he is struggling a little bit.

:26:19. > :26:23.Lancashire needs to stay strong. He has done the right thing by

:26:24. > :26:28.attacking from the front. Tom Lancashire, with 100 metres to go,

:26:29. > :26:36.in a qualifying position will stop he took this by the scruff of the

:26:37. > :26:43.neck. A really impressive run. Selmouni will chase him in. Filip

:26:44. > :26:48.Ingebrigtsen nowhere. That is an interesting one. He came in here not

:26:49. > :26:55.having raced. Well done, Tom. A sigh of relief from the coach and into

:26:56. > :26:58.the final. Britain's only representative in the 1500 but he

:26:59. > :27:04.did that perfectly well. Well executed by Tom. He is in good

:27:05. > :27:09.shape. We will now break off for the pole vault. Immediately on the

:27:10. > :27:22.infield, as they cross the finish line, Pawel Wojciechowski of Poland.

:27:23. > :27:31.His team-mate is in the silver medal position, Holizdeppe. Last attempt.

:27:32. > :27:43.5.90. No. Too much for him. It is enough for bronze. So, it is gold

:27:44. > :27:48.for Lisek. Gold and bronze for Poland and silver for the Greek

:27:49. > :27:59.athlete. All three medallists, 5.85 was the best. But it Pawel

:28:00. > :28:07.Wojciechowski had a chance, didn't he, to beat his team-mate, but the

:28:08. > :28:17.medals have been decided. Poland have two of them. Gold to Lisek.

:28:18. > :28:24.There are congratulations. Confirmation of the final failure at

:28:25. > :28:29.5.94 Pawel Wojciechowski. Smiling away and pleased with his bronze.

:28:30. > :28:31.Maybe that is his downfall. Congratulations all round. Gold and

:28:32. > :28:44.bronze for Poland. There is your gold-medallist. He was

:28:45. > :28:53.the man to beat, the favourite. He has won with 5.80 five. Gold and

:28:54. > :28:59.bronze therefore Poland. Tom Lancashire going through very

:29:00. > :29:07.impressively indeed in the end and Selmouni going through with him. I'm

:29:08. > :29:11.sure a very happy Tom is with Phil. That was a most impressive

:29:12. > :29:16.qualification. You must be thrilled. I am really happy. On paper it

:29:17. > :29:19.looked like a tough heat. Always being in the first heat is never an

:29:20. > :29:26.advantage really. So, to come through it with comfort and not

:29:27. > :29:30.extend myself too much, I'm really happy with it and it is just a

:29:31. > :29:32.relief more than anything to get the heats out of the way. I have really

:29:33. > :29:39.been looking forward to the Championships. I can look forward to

:29:40. > :29:44.tomorrow now. Was your idea always to take the race by the scruff of

:29:45. > :29:49.the neck, as Steve put it? I think so. I think I had to do that as one

:29:50. > :29:53.of the fastest guys on paper. I have a lot of confidence coming into

:29:54. > :29:57.this. Also, obviously, it depends on what kind of race it is. The guy

:29:58. > :30:02.that took it out in the middle got things moving a little bit which

:30:03. > :30:07.helped me. I was able to work off him and Steve always talks about

:30:08. > :30:12.using my instincts. I am not a spring chicken anymore. One thing

:30:13. > :30:17.I've gained is a lot of experience. Yes, I just sniffed when it felt

:30:18. > :30:20.right to go and eased away. Fortunately I was able to ease away

:30:21. > :30:23.quite comfortably. I was really happy with that. Congratulations.

:30:24. > :30:37.Thank you. registered I am just sitting down

:30:38. > :30:45.though. Tom is through and Sweden have a good prospect here. Cali

:30:46. > :30:50.Birdland. Yes, only butcher has run quicker this year. Not a bad

:30:51. > :31:02.line-up, either. There is Birdland. Finished fourth in Birmingham. We

:31:03. > :31:05.have talked about how butcher was quickest over 1500m and 3000, but he

:31:06. > :31:18.chose not to run here. Look out for a car of Spain. He

:31:19. > :31:21.hasn't lost a race this season. I view of the runners thought there

:31:22. > :31:27.was a false start there. There was a bang from somewhere. One of them has

:31:28. > :31:36.stopped. Two of them has stopped. Travers is one of them. Paula, there

:31:37. > :31:41.is huge confusion there and two of them have effectively stopped and

:31:42. > :31:46.almost taken themselves out of this. Travers and a colour have got a lot

:31:47. > :31:50.to do just to get back into this. There is a lot of confusion around

:31:51. > :31:55.the starting area. They don't seem to realise what has happened. They

:31:56. > :32:00.should have called them back. These two guys now are at a big

:32:01. > :32:05.disadvantage. Alcala is still in no man's land will not be able to get

:32:06. > :32:08.back into this now and that is his race over. That is a real shame.

:32:09. > :32:13.Alcala has not lost a race this season. Six races in Spain, six

:32:14. > :32:18.wins. And the Irish indoor champion made the final at the last European

:32:19. > :32:22.indoors and he is still adrift. That was all very unfortunate and the

:32:23. > :32:25.starters here, there have been a few things going on today but somebody

:32:26. > :32:36.should have been aware of the noise that happened there, very like a

:32:37. > :32:38.gunshot, and they should have stepped in to call them back. They

:32:39. > :32:41.were all looking round. They were all looking around for a while. For

:32:42. > :32:46.a wreath -- for a while, Berglund even slowed the pace down. I don't

:32:47. > :32:49.know if he realised what was going on behind him. You can see that

:32:50. > :32:53.Alcala is still trying to catch up with that group in front. Travers

:32:54. > :32:58.has realised he's not going to be able to get in touch and has grown

:32:59. > :33:03.in the towel. It's a mental tarp -- test as much as anything else. They

:33:04. > :33:07.have to give it absolutely everything that they were 20 metres

:33:08. > :33:13.adrift of the rest. To do go through automatically, three fastest losers,

:33:14. > :33:19.and it is Cali Sasinek. He was as surprised as the rest at the start

:33:20. > :33:23.but he kept going. And there is the man with the second quickest pace in

:33:24. > :33:28.Europe this year. This group of five has separated itself at the moment.

:33:29. > :33:43.Also in their looking powerful, Rollin, the Portuguese athlete. Yes,

:33:44. > :33:50.he is looking very comfortable. Kazi, once the confusion had settled

:33:51. > :33:57.down, set out to work this group and he has set out what he has achieved

:33:58. > :34:00.to do -- he has achieved what he set out today. Trying to get the pace

:34:01. > :34:07.moving now and I think it is quicker than in the previous heat. Just a

:34:08. > :34:11.group of now. Perhaps even three. Working very hard to maintain

:34:12. > :34:19.contact but it is Sasinek and Berglund able to look around and

:34:20. > :34:26.still hanging in, Emanuel Rolim. Two automatic qualifiers and certainly

:34:27. > :34:32.Sasinek. Two of them fading as they hit the bell. These two are clearly

:34:33. > :34:40.away now. Berglund will be very aware of the fact that group has --

:34:41. > :34:43.that gap has opened up. You either up a bit but not too much because he

:34:44. > :34:50.doesn't want to be rundown unawares in that final straight. So, the

:34:51. > :34:54.victory will go to Sasinek. Berglund has let him have it. He will do the

:34:55. > :35:00.bare minimum now. Just keep himself ahead of Rollin who is finishing

:35:01. > :35:09.strongly. Those are the two automatic qualifiers and Emanuel

:35:10. > :35:15.Rolim and staff are hoping for a fastest runner-up place. So the end

:35:16. > :35:21.of the race was normal but the start was anything but. The race was

:35:22. > :35:29.ruined for Travers and Alcala. A smile from Travers but a complaint

:35:30. > :35:34.will be lodged, I am sure. It was odd. This is the finish of the race,

:35:35. > :35:37.which is the less interesting part. Sasinek taking a victory ahead of

:35:38. > :35:41.Berglund but we will have another look at the start in a moment. Have

:35:42. > :35:46.you been involved in situations similar to that, Paula? Have you

:35:47. > :35:51.been called back when there was a noise at the start and the starter

:35:52. > :36:03.should have stepped in? Listen to this. There we go. Obviously the

:36:04. > :36:08.sound of the gun is very different from the electronic gun, which is

:36:09. > :36:13.the first clue, but you hear a gun in a race and you are automatically

:36:14. > :36:18.looking around. There was a very clear crack of what sounded like a

:36:19. > :36:21.gunshot. A definite crack and a definite gunshot. Two of them

:36:22. > :36:26.decided to job and I guess that's one lesson learned their Alcala. You

:36:27. > :36:30.can't do that until somebody runs in front of you and tells you to stop.

:36:31. > :36:34.In answer to your question, it happened to me once in that other

:36:35. > :36:40.women's league many moons ago. The timekeepers forgot to start their

:36:41. > :36:44.watch, fair of the 400 metres, they asked me to go back. Paula is

:36:45. > :36:48.absolutely right. That gun went off by accident, obviously, but you do

:36:49. > :36:53.not stop until you are stopped. That will be his problem. He will

:36:54. > :36:58.complain, I am sure, but they will say everybody else kept running, you

:36:59. > :37:03.should have done as well. Yes, so John Travers and Alcala, who is not

:37:04. > :37:10.on that page, will pay the price. Looking at the times for Rolim and

:37:11. > :37:12.Kazi. At the moment, they are going through to the final as to what the

:37:13. > :37:31.fastest losers. Well, that was a pretty good, well,

:37:32. > :37:35.easy, I guess, poor Sasinek and Berglund to be able to jogging,

:37:36. > :37:40.particularly for Berglund, that is everybody's dream in the heat and

:37:41. > :37:44.now the guys in this last one have a decision to make. They have got

:37:45. > :37:51.every opportunity of going through as fastest losers because anything

:37:52. > :37:57.in the low three point 40 or 348, but I will break off, because Phil

:37:58. > :38:02.has Travers with him. Thank you, Steve, and thank you for coming to

:38:03. > :38:07.talk to us. Explain what happened. About 40 metres into the race, a

:38:08. > :38:12.second gun went and we thought they were calling us back. Myself and the

:38:13. > :38:23.Spanish lad pulled up and we kept looking over, I do know what the

:38:24. > :38:26.crack was, but I tried to keep the race up. My legs were gone at 600

:38:27. > :38:30.metres though and there was no coming back. I will find out if

:38:31. > :38:33.there is anything we can do, but to be honest, I underperformed anyway,

:38:34. > :38:38.so I doubt a performance -- an appeal would go through. Very

:38:39. > :38:41.strange. I've never had that before. I just wonder whether an appeal

:38:42. > :38:45.would go through as well because there were only two of you that

:38:46. > :38:50.stopped and the rest carried on. Yes, if Moore had had stopped, that

:38:51. > :38:54.would have been the case. I don't understand where second gun --

:38:55. > :38:59.second gun would have gone if they weren't stopping us. We will put a

:39:00. > :39:05.-- an appeal in because it would be crazy not to but I am not sure about

:39:06. > :39:10.whether it will come to anything. Stranger things have happened. Well,

:39:11. > :39:15.I am a lot clearer now, not. I think both teams will put an appealing. I

:39:16. > :39:19.think he hit the nail on the head down when he said we shouldn't have

:39:20. > :39:23.stopped. I think that is what the judge will say. And of course, to

:39:24. > :39:28.put an appeal in, your team have to spend a couple of hundred dollars.

:39:29. > :39:33.Something like that. That will rumble on a little bit, so Spain and

:39:34. > :39:44.Ireland may well be lodging a complaint. We shall see. So, now I

:39:45. > :39:52.hear. We all know this guy well. -- Nava here. He has taken off here, a

:39:53. > :39:58.Serbian, and he knows that if he can run 3.4 3.48, he can get three as a

:39:59. > :40:03.fastest loser. He is trying to get them to run with him. Urging them

:40:04. > :40:07.on. He is saying, I will guarantee you the support of the stadium

:40:08. > :40:12.tonight to get us through if you help me here. Well, five of them

:40:13. > :40:19.could go through if they run faster than three minutes, 47 seconds. They

:40:20. > :40:26.are more than capable of that. With the exception of Harvey Dixon, they

:40:27. > :40:30.have all run faster than that this year. So, Harvey Dixon is that the

:40:31. > :40:35.back and the pace is OK. I love this. The Italian verb, I have done

:40:36. > :40:43.my lot and the big tall Swede is advocating a little bit but it is

:40:44. > :40:48.his term, surely? -- his term, surely? It is his turn but he

:40:49. > :40:50.unwillingly goes to the brand but doesn't maintain the pace that has

:40:51. > :40:55.been sacked and that's allowed the whole field to bunch back up again

:40:56. > :41:01.and at the back there is Martin Lewandowski. He moved up to the

:41:02. > :41:06.1500m from the 800 metres and he would certainly have himself down as

:41:07. > :41:11.one of the fastest finishes here. He is quite happy for it to move along

:41:12. > :41:15.slowly and rely on that pace. He needs to take it a little bit closer

:41:16. > :41:20.though because he has now created a small gap. I think they are going

:41:21. > :41:24.well here through 800 metres and much quicker than the first two

:41:25. > :41:29.heats. It has been set up nicely here because five of them could

:41:30. > :41:36.definitely qualify here. 346.96, they are the fastest losers but that

:41:37. > :41:39.the moment. Lewandowski get the little bit closer. Definitely one of

:41:40. > :41:46.the medal favourites, the Polish athlete, along with Tom Lancashire

:41:47. > :41:49.and Berglund. He will want to make sure that he makes no mistakes from

:41:50. > :41:56.this point. The Swedish athletes still has a five metre lead. Yes, he

:41:57. > :42:00.is giving himself every chance that if his legs tire over the final

:42:01. > :42:03.couple of laps, anyway to be in too much danger, but he is in danger

:42:04. > :42:08.because he is getting close down quite quickly by Lewandowski who is

:42:09. > :42:14.pulling the others close to him. Lewandowski N second place, Benitz

:42:15. > :42:18.of Germany on his shoulder, a little look behind from the Swede. He knows

:42:19. > :42:22.this is the important part of the race, but they have got three 1200

:42:23. > :42:28.in a quick three minutes so they just need to maintain here and the

:42:29. > :42:32.Spaniard is looking at little tired. Nava could be under threat here

:42:33. > :42:36.because with a lap to go, he has got a chance of the top five. I think

:42:37. > :42:40.I've could go through. He needs to work hard here though. You can see a

:42:41. > :42:44.little bit of panic that. Lewandowski is starting to launches

:42:45. > :42:52.fight. He needs to look at the time if he can. Benitz slides through on

:42:53. > :42:56.the inside out. The German slip through on the inside and these two

:42:57. > :43:02.are pulling away. Benitz, Lewandowski, registered and Bouih of

:43:03. > :43:11.Italy and sadly it will be Nava who will miss out, because in the first

:43:12. > :43:16.to heats, if you were at the top two, not that it's your own fault,

:43:17. > :43:19.but you have the chance to make it a quick race. These guys got together

:43:20. > :43:24.a little bit, worked together, not that Benitz did much of the work,

:43:25. > :43:29.neither did Lewandowski, they led the others do the work, but

:43:30. > :43:37.Rogestedt been rewarded, Bouih is being rewarded, because they took

:43:38. > :43:43.some of the early pace. So it has been rewarded and he did nothing.

:43:44. > :43:47.The pace was definitely affected in the second heat because of that

:43:48. > :43:50.second gun, but Rogestedt worked really hard in the middle of the

:43:51. > :43:54.race, hanging on in third place and he knows he has got to keep running

:43:55. > :43:57.hard through the line and he has done enough to go through as a

:43:58. > :43:59.fastest loser and do pretty much guaranteed that the three fastest

:44:00. > :44:12.losers come from that final heat. Well, that's it for the men's 1500m.

:44:13. > :44:17.Their final, like the women's, is tomorrow night as well. Tom

:44:18. > :44:21.Lancashire three. And we were just tidy up that last one there. Benitz,

:44:22. > :44:26.Lewandowski, and you can see the small queue signs meaning that the

:44:27. > :44:28.three fastest runner ups will be Rogestedt, Bouih and Sales from

:44:29. > :44:41.Spain. A little bit earlier, it was the

:44:42. > :44:46.women's high jump qualification, with Britain pars-mac Morgan Lake

:44:47. > :44:53.covering -- Britain pars-mac Morgan Lake covering 1.90 and we caught up

:44:54. > :44:57.with her afterwards. Morgan, it seems you grow with confidence with

:44:58. > :44:59.every competition you take part in. How much did The Olympic Club know

:45:00. > :45:06.and what you experienced last year do for this event? It really helped

:45:07. > :45:10.knowing that I had an Olympic final last year, knowing that I could do

:45:11. > :45:14.it up against almost the exact same people. I knew I could get there. I

:45:15. > :45:19.had to stay confident and jump high. How did you feel in body and mind

:45:20. > :45:24.coming in this morning? I felt quite healthy, quite happy. We trained on

:45:25. > :45:28.the track yesterday, so I got a good feel of it yesterday, so I felt

:45:29. > :45:31.quite confident. It's one thing to feel that way, another way to

:45:32. > :45:37.translate it into competition but it seems you do that with aplomb these

:45:38. > :45:40.days? I'm trying to. It gets better each competition. I'm used to

:45:41. > :45:45.competing against these girls now on the circuit, so that helps. Had he

:45:46. > :45:54.been given an added boost in the way from the new coaching regime? Has it

:45:55. > :45:59.giving you a new impetus. Yes, definitely a fresh outlook and great

:46:00. > :46:00.people to train with, so definitely helping. Another final to look

:46:01. > :46:11.forward to. Thank you. As much as I think a lot of fans

:46:12. > :46:14.would like to see how competing across five events, do you think

:46:15. > :46:21.that the more you get the experience of these big events, these

:46:22. > :46:26.multisport events, if you like, and all the athletes here together under

:46:27. > :46:35.one roof, being part of the great Britain team, it is actually a good

:46:36. > :46:39.experience? Morgan has been at the Olympics and made World

:46:40. > :46:42.Championships. She is experienced enough to handle herself on

:46:43. > :46:47.occasions like this. I think she is happy. She has been on the circuit a

:46:48. > :46:53.bit and done some high jumping. Sheen and she is able to jump as

:46:54. > :47:03.well as some of the girls. 1.96 is well within her reach. She needs to

:47:04. > :47:09.push herself a little bit. Behind me you can here we are getting ready

:47:10. > :47:15.for a medal ceremony. It is the women's shot put. Hungary are the

:47:16. > :47:26.winners. We will tell you all about this athlete. Martin takes her

:47:27. > :47:34.celebrations. She received this two years ago. One by some margin in the

:47:35. > :47:39.and. 19.28 metres. The best in the world this year and nearly eased

:47:40. > :47:50.ahead of the best of the rest of the field. The Belarussian in bird. Bog

:47:51. > :48:57.area in silver medal position. Anita Martin takes her national anthem.

:48:58. > :49:06.CHEERING AND APPLAUSE . A first look at the shape of the

:49:07. > :49:21.medals. Gold for Hungary. Any to tempt one with 19.28 to take gold in

:49:22. > :49:31.the shot put. Gold for Hungary and gold for Belgium as well. Nafi Thiam

:49:32. > :49:34.one. Another gold medal and a wonderful performance. You set the

:49:35. > :49:41.tone for the day with a personal best in the first event. I must've

:49:42. > :49:48.been a great really good. To go so good, from the first event, the

:49:49. > :49:56.hurdles, I felt pretty good. That is 20 better than my personal best. I

:49:57. > :50:00.am disappointed by the 800 but I wasn't prepared for in doors, so I

:50:01. > :50:04.know I shouldn't be but I am really happy. Really? You did not think you

:50:05. > :50:09.should be hip and you are concentrating on the outdoor season,

:50:10. > :50:13.were you? It is always the goal for me, the outdoor season. During the

:50:14. > :50:18.winter you have to train outside. I do not have any indoor facilities.

:50:19. > :50:24.In Belgium it has been really cold and snowing. I could not do

:50:25. > :50:28.anything. I know I will not be as good as I should be for

:50:29. > :50:34.international championships. But, yes, this year when pretty good. I

:50:35. > :50:40.am really happy. That just shows you how good you are put you are the

:50:41. > :50:42.person to be nowadays. We saw it in the Olympic Games. Brilliant

:50:43. > :50:47.performance after brilliant performance. I wonder what it is

:50:48. > :50:51.like being Olympic champion and going out there believing more in

:50:52. > :51:00.yourself and knowing you are the one to beat. Before going here, there

:51:01. > :51:05.was a hesitation to come here. I was afraid not being as good as people

:51:06. > :51:14.expect from me here. That is why I hesitated. But I love it so much. I

:51:15. > :51:22.did not want to miss it. I am pretty happy I made the decision to come

:51:23. > :51:26.here. This summer hopefully will be good too but you never know. We look

:51:27. > :51:34.forward to you coming here in the summer. We had Jessica Ennis-Hill

:51:35. > :51:38.who has retired but also Katarina Johnson-Thompson, who you know well.

:51:39. > :51:45.I looking forward to the competition? Of course. I think it

:51:46. > :51:52.will be really, really good. I cannot wait, to be honest. I hope I

:51:53. > :51:57.will be in good shape. To be able to compete with the best. As I said,

:51:58. > :52:02.we'll see. Congratulations on a wonderful performance. Another gold

:52:03. > :52:09.medal. Well done. Thank you. The great and the good are here. Lord

:52:10. > :52:24.Sebastien Corchia with surrogate broker. -- Bubka. He was telling me

:52:25. > :52:27.about his plans. He thought Nitro was a fantastic event for the he

:52:28. > :52:31.talked about that over the weekend was doing was a pretty good runner

:52:32. > :52:36.in his day and so was Colin Jackson. We have the finals of the hurdles

:52:37. > :52:43.coming up later on, in the next half an hour. It thought it would be good

:52:44. > :52:48.to remind you of all of this. -- we thought.

:52:49. > :52:57.Britain's Lynn Jackson in lane five in the 60 metres hurdles final. So

:52:58. > :53:03.talented. -- Colin Jackson. They are a way this time put up Jackson got

:53:04. > :53:07.away well. Jackson ready maybe now. Jackson is holding him put a Jackson

:53:08. > :53:14.WinZip. He said, my goodness me, I made hard work of that! Colin

:53:15. > :53:21.Jackson, supremely confident and dominant in each of the round so

:53:22. > :53:27.far. Jackson storming down the track. Jackson will win. Colin

:53:28. > :53:35.Jackson is the European indoor hurdles champion for the second

:53:36. > :53:47.time. He really looks cool and calm. Away this time. Colin Jackson. He is

:53:48. > :53:52.once again big European champion. He has won titles in the 80s, the 90s,

:53:53. > :54:02.and now the millennium. He really is brilliant. It felt like boy to man,

:54:03. > :54:07.Colin Jackson. You are right on time every time, won't that you loved

:54:08. > :54:12.indoors, didn't you? I really did. There was a great experience for the

:54:13. > :54:15.I love practising indoors over the 60s that as well as well as the

:54:16. > :54:24.60-metre hurdles themselves. A great time but always that little

:54:25. > :54:28.challenge. The hurdles came out really quickly. I see those wet days

:54:29. > :54:33.in Wales indoors helped their attractions. Always good to take a

:54:34. > :54:38.trip down memory lane. The women's hurdles final is coming up soon and

:54:39. > :54:45.the men's after that with Andy Pozzi of Great Britain going in that one.

:54:46. > :54:51.Hoping for a medal, and gold, day we say. He is head and shoulders above

:54:52. > :54:58.the rest so far the sheer. Let's get out there. The light show is taking

:54:59. > :55:04.place. The noise is ramping up. Now the women's race. They bring the

:55:05. > :55:15.athletes out and they have a little bit of a warm up and then they are

:55:16. > :55:22.introduced. There is the German, Dutkiewicz, who is one of the

:55:23. > :55:28.favourites. Sauntering out is the Ukrainian, Plotitsyna. A new

:55:29. > :55:33.personal best of 7.90 to. She got out very quickly in the semifinal.

:55:34. > :55:39.She has a lane right in the middle. The defending indoor European

:55:40. > :55:45.champion, Talay, won her heat, her semifinal. More to come, judging by

:55:46. > :55:54.the way she won those races. Talay, perhaps the favourite. The European

:55:55. > :56:09.champion, Roleder, has a chance as well. She finished behind Danielle

:56:10. > :56:15.Williams. The heptathlete, Visser is here as well. A very fine hurdler,

:56:16. > :56:21.through to the final here. And there are three Germans in the final. The

:56:22. > :56:28.third one being Ricarda Lobe. The third German here not quite of the

:56:29. > :56:32.calibre of the others but still a good prospect. Two of the three

:56:33. > :56:36.European finalists from Rio are not here. That is a shame because this

:56:37. > :56:40.is one of the highest standard events of these championships. A

:56:41. > :56:50.great final in prospect Andy would have been fascinating to see how

:56:51. > :56:57.they would have fared against the likes of Talay and Dutkiewicz. The

:56:58. > :57:01.Swede is still the world indoor record holder. This is the final

:57:02. > :57:04.race of the grand career full she is delighted to make it through to the

:57:05. > :57:12.final, to have her farewell in front of a decent crowd at a major

:57:13. > :57:18.championship. Isabel Pedersen of Norway, on the inside, a former

:57:19. > :57:32.junior championship, -- champion, runs very competitively.

:57:33. > :57:38.The penultimate race of this first day of the European indoor

:57:39. > :57:46.Championships in Belgrade. The final of the women's 60 hurdles. They are

:57:47. > :57:57.called back. Let it not be a false start in her final race, pleased

:57:58. > :58:02.that she was out so quickly, Kallur, and to fear for her. It may well

:58:03. > :58:11.have been a false start for Kallur, in her last ever race. We're all

:58:12. > :58:17.looking up to the big screen to see reaction times. They have not been

:58:18. > :58:22.so good at giving them to us later on in the day. Colin watching that

:58:23. > :58:30.one as well. It would be so sad if were Kallur. It would not be the

:58:31. > :58:36.right way to end such an illustrious career. Let's keep our fingers

:58:37. > :58:42.crossed. As always, you never know who it can possibly be. Even though

:58:43. > :58:50.she exploded out of the blocks, it could have been someone else to set

:58:51. > :58:58.off the signal will stop it is not Kallur. We will look at the replay.

:58:59. > :59:06.Pedersen is giving her explanation to the starter. This seldom works.

:59:07. > :59:15.You can see already. Pedersen in lane one alongside Kallur.

:59:16. > :59:23.Again, she was pretty much alongside Kallur. We are not being given the

:59:24. > :59:32.reaction times. They must be quicker than a tenth of a second. Isabel

:59:33. > :59:37.Pedersen is disqualified instead. It is on the pressure leaving the pad.

:59:38. > :59:42.It is done on the timings and efficiently, electronic key. Little

:59:43. > :59:50.arguing can be done. But a real shame for Isabel Pedersen. She had a

:59:51. > :59:55.real chance. They are all running so closely together in times but only

:59:56. > :00:02.seven main now. Pedersen is gone and Kallur is there.

:00:03. > :00:20.Oscar well, she's been reinstated. The cheer from the crowd. Odd things

:00:21. > :00:27.are happening today in Belgrade. Issue being reinstated? She is. Now,

:00:28. > :00:32.this is great news for her but how do you gather yourself and settle

:00:33. > :00:37.yourself now? This is a big problem for the athletes because of course

:00:38. > :00:42.they expected everything to become. This is only just adds a bit more

:00:43. > :00:46.frustration when it comes to a final, because now you are worrying,

:00:47. > :00:50.our officials getting it right? If I react a little bit quickly, is it

:00:51. > :00:53.true? All these things will be going through your mind and you really

:00:54. > :00:58.just want to focus on the race and the competition. The starters have

:00:59. > :01:02.not been medal winners today. Isabel Pedersen have to gather herself and

:01:03. > :01:11.so, so difficult to go from deep despair to regather herself. Do a

:01:12. > :01:20.bit of that. She is back alongside Kallur and all the others. We are

:01:21. > :01:28.ready once again for a highly charged final of the women's 60m

:01:29. > :01:32.hurdles. And she waited and waited, Pedersen, and they are called back

:01:33. > :01:38.again. It certainly wasn't Pedersen this time. She made sure of it but

:01:39. > :01:43.they are called back and be crowd in Belgrade give way to their feelings.

:01:44. > :01:48.You know, Andrew, right now the starter has to be really strong and

:01:49. > :01:53.not feel intimidated by the crowd. They are whistling, booing, but he

:01:54. > :01:58.must take control of his discipline as well. It is a tough call. Does he

:01:59. > :02:01.override what the machine is telling him? Visually, I am struggling to

:02:02. > :02:06.see what was wrong with that stopped. I am wondering why they

:02:07. > :02:11.stopped giving us their reaction times. You and I were just noticing,

:02:12. > :02:17.they stopped putting the reaction times are now computer about halfway

:02:18. > :02:21.through the afternoon. Possibly lane five, Talay, got away well, but

:02:22. > :02:24.she's a good starter. There's nothing there which would suggest a

:02:25. > :02:30.false start, is there? I think they have got a problem. They have.

:02:31. > :02:44.Again, I say, we are not getting Biela Tronic real -- the electronic

:02:45. > :02:49.relation --... The green card is a technical fault. Hugely unsettling.

:02:50. > :02:55.She who wins here may be the one who can steady her nerves and keep her

:02:56. > :02:58.composure more than anyone else. And for Susanna Kallur, this is her

:02:59. > :03:05.final race. She is getting the most out of it. So, ready again. This is

:03:06. > :03:10.actually quite good for Isabel Pedersen. It's giving her more time.

:03:11. > :03:22.Everybody is unsettled now. Isabel Pedersen, Susanna Kallur, dude can

:03:23. > :03:29.pitch, Racine of the UK in, this and Lobe. And the starter seems

:03:30. > :03:37.unsettled, too, so we are going to stand up. I mean, they are trying

:03:38. > :03:40.their best is all you can say of the starters, but it's not really been

:03:41. > :03:44.at times good enough today. You know, this is going to be really

:03:45. > :03:48.frustrating for the athletes now, because I feel the starter will be a

:03:49. > :03:52.very quick gun, so the athletes have got to be ready because he wants to

:03:53. > :04:01.get this rate is done and dusted, so it will be a quick set position and

:04:02. > :04:05.a fire, faster probably than we have seen for most of the day. He is

:04:06. > :04:09.struggling, isn't he? I know they are hoping to hold the world indoor

:04:10. > :04:14.Championships here in Belgrade. If few adjustments might have to be

:04:15. > :04:19.made to get those games. -- eight view adjustments. Ready once again.

:04:20. > :04:29.As Colin said that, he might just get them out more sharply between

:04:30. > :04:35.the hold and the bank of the gun. The finalists of the women's 60m

:04:36. > :04:40.hurdles. This time, they are away, and it ties up quickly. Trying to

:04:41. > :04:50.get back towards that is Talay. But she fades, and Roger takes it. It

:04:51. > :04:56.was therefore Talay but rallied is -- Roleder is celebrating. She came

:04:57. > :05:00.through in the final ten metres to take it at the calm European indoor

:05:01. > :05:09.to the. Talay will say, how did I let that slip away? Roleder is a

:05:10. > :05:14.big-time athlete. As we saw earlier on in the day, in her qualifier, she

:05:15. > :05:18.qualified very competently. Now she becomes the champion. Always does

:05:19. > :05:23.well when the pressure is on. She kept a cool head. No panicking.

:05:24. > :05:26.There was pressure left, pressure right, but she kept her head,

:05:27. > :05:33.knowing she is good technically, knows her strong part of the race is

:05:34. > :05:36.the backend. Talay, explosive out of the blocks, but Wallader just edged

:05:37. > :05:43.her. She comes up that final barrier and says, you know what, go for it,

:05:44. > :05:47.lean, do it, and she has. A great performance. Strong and bold.

:05:48. > :05:54.Looking at the finish there as we look once more at the start, Vukovic

:05:55. > :05:57.just came through to take the bronze medal, so Germany has gold and

:05:58. > :06:02.bronze, but at this point, Talay would have thought she had it. She

:06:03. > :06:08.would have thought she had this race nailed. At the final barrier, Talay

:06:09. > :06:15.was probably still ahead, but Wallader is stronger and taller --

:06:16. > :06:21.Roleder is stronger and taller and dipped at that crucial moment,

:06:22. > :06:31.taking the victory in a very swift time also, 7.8 eight. There is the

:06:32. > :06:38.gold-medal winner taking backstage for a moment there, but she is the

:06:39. > :06:44.woman centre stage, European Indoor Championships as well as outdoor

:06:45. > :06:48.champion. And Talay can now celebrate her bronze -- has over

:06:49. > :06:54.medal, but she was quicker in her qualifier than in the final. Roleder

:06:55. > :06:59.brought it out when it mattered. We talk about the strength that the

:07:00. > :07:10.Germans have their in Dutkiewicz and Roleder.

:07:11. > :07:16.The men's 60m hurdles final, which we are hoping will go off more

:07:17. > :07:22.smoothly than the women's race. Hopefully they have got rid of the

:07:23. > :07:26.gremlins in the works. Andy Pozzi, the fastest man in the world this

:07:27. > :07:34.year, the favourite for gold this year and Phil Specter him before he

:07:35. > :07:40.came out. -- Phil spoke to him before he came out. Andrew Pozzi is

:07:41. > :07:44.flying once again. He is running so consistently well, so consistently

:07:45. > :07:50.quickly, time and time again and he destroyed the field, Andrew Pozzi.

:07:51. > :07:53.To go from strength to strength, I started off the season with my

:07:54. > :07:57.quickest ever season opener and that wasn't too far from my PB. I was

:07:58. > :08:02.expecting it to build slowly but then I took a tenth of my personal

:08:03. > :08:07.bends in the next race, so it went to another level. It's as good as I

:08:08. > :08:10.could hope for. Describe what it's like when you've not been able to

:08:11. > :08:14.put in the hurdling work like last year, that he would have liked, and

:08:15. > :08:19.then this year, and contrast, you have. It's just consistency. The

:08:20. > :08:26.fact I've been healthy for a long period of time, I'm coming from a

:08:27. > :08:29.much better base. He is going backwards. The race was therefore

:08:30. > :08:32.Andrew Pozzi and he was all over the place. He had the speed but he

:08:33. > :08:36.didn't write the barriers well enough. Whilst I was very

:08:37. > :08:40.disappointed with the way that Rio went and the Olympics went, I came

:08:41. > :08:43.away from that in the weeks and months later with a bit more context

:08:44. > :08:47.and felt that actually, if that's where we are now, with limited

:08:48. > :08:56.preparation, then that bodes well for the future. The 60m hurdles is a

:08:57. > :08:59.really strong event in Europe so I am going into it knowing that really

:09:00. > :09:04.you need to be the best in the world if you want to be the best in Europe

:09:05. > :09:07.at the moment. There are a couple of non-Europeans that are running well

:09:08. > :09:09.at the moment but the Europeans are great at hurdles. Two of the medals

:09:10. > :09:12.from three at the Olympics were Europeans. That's great because it

:09:13. > :09:16.means I'm struggling to be the best I can be because the competition

:09:17. > :09:19.demands it. I have been a senior at the higher level for about five

:09:20. > :09:24.years and have very few medals to show for it, so hopefully now is the

:09:25. > :09:29.time when that will start to change and you'll start seeing me on the

:09:30. > :09:34.podium a lot more. You are still only 24, we should remind ourselves.

:09:35. > :09:39.Yes, I am quite young. I think I flew one to scene about 19 and, like

:09:40. > :09:45.I say, with all the interruptions, it feels like I am about 40 times

:09:46. > :09:50.but I have a long time ahead of me. So that's good. We will talk more

:09:51. > :09:55.about Andy Pozzi's final in just a moment but there is Nafi Thiam, who

:09:56. > :09:59.of course won the pentathlon a little bit earlier this evening. The

:10:00. > :10:02.Olympic champion is now the European Indoor Championships stop she got to

:10:03. > :10:13.hear the Belgian anthem one more time.

:10:14. > :11:09.Ladies and gentlemen, the national anthem of Belgium.

:11:10. > :11:30.Well, it's a packed agenda here. In between those two finals, we have a

:11:31. > :11:34.medal ceremony. Who knows how the starters gun will work for the men's

:11:35. > :11:41.final? Let's hope it is smoother because Great Britain have great

:11:42. > :11:45.hopes for Andy Pozzi. He qualified very comfortably. He is, this year,

:11:46. > :11:48.the fastest man in the world and this would be a fantastic

:11:49. > :11:54.opportunity for him to put to bed so many near starts that he has had in

:11:55. > :11:57.championships where unfortunate things have happened. Cramp and

:11:58. > :12:02.injuries at the very last moment. At the anniversary games last year, we

:12:03. > :12:05.have seen a lot of bad luck. He has been through the mill, he really

:12:06. > :12:12.has, but you've got to put back to bed. He is in the now. He is in a

:12:13. > :12:17.fine, rich vein of form. He knows it's his time. I think he is hungry

:12:18. > :12:21.to take those opportunities. Very modest in nature but hungry, hungry

:12:22. > :12:25.to start running and making up for lost time. He said that he has done

:12:26. > :12:30.more sessions this year over the hurdles than he thinks he managed in

:12:31. > :12:34.two seasons with his injuries and you know as a body who has coached a

:12:35. > :12:39.hurdler how important that is, for him to go technically competent.

:12:40. > :12:43.It's the only way forward in athletics, is to have consistency,

:12:44. > :12:46.to be able to put those races together, to be able to lay down

:12:47. > :12:50.year-on-year those performances. They will be very careful with him

:12:51. > :12:56.at Loughborough, gentle to make sure he doesn't put spikes on a lot, but

:12:57. > :13:02.he is getting work done and that is tremendous background work. Let's

:13:03. > :13:04.not forget that. Let's get out there then and Steve Cram is your

:13:05. > :13:10.commentator for the final race of the evening on the track.

:13:11. > :13:18.Thanks, Gabby, as we introduce the defending champion,

:13:19. > :13:24.Martinot-Lagarde, as it was a French 123 last year. -- last time round.

:13:25. > :13:30.Thankfully, no injury problems for Andy Pozzi, the man from

:13:31. > :13:36.Stratford-upon-Avon club. Eight out of eight wins this year, including

:13:37. > :13:41.one over perhaps one of his major rivals here, that you will see in a

:13:42. > :13:47.second. This is manga, the French athlete. There are three Frenchmen

:13:48. > :13:53.in this. He was a good starter. A little bit of a surprise he has made

:13:54. > :13:56.it three. And then this man. This is the Olympic silver medallist

:13:57. > :14:03.outdoors. He has only had one defeat this year, as I was then, to Andy

:14:04. > :14:07.Pozzi. So, can that be repeated here in this final? Then our eighth

:14:08. > :14:18.contender, Andreas Martinson of Denmark. We saw the Czech athlete

:14:19. > :14:24.introduced, so everywhere you look, there are threats, theoretically for

:14:25. > :14:31.policy, but he has been in such good form, the world leader, as we go

:14:32. > :14:49.along the line. The surprise package was judged a pitch -- Trajkovic. The

:14:50. > :14:55.last five championships, you have needed to run so quickly Andy Pozzi

:14:56. > :15:08.has done that -- Andy Pozzi has done that so many times this year. So,

:15:09. > :15:13.Andy Pozzi and Ortega, Lane five and seven, the defending champion in

:15:14. > :15:17.Lane four. The men's 60m hurdles final. The last event of the first

:15:18. > :15:32.day of this European Indoor Championships.

:15:33. > :15:48.Pozzi does not get a good start. Pozzi gets it. Pozzi just got there

:15:49. > :15:53.in the end. The winning time, I said you had to go under 7.5. It might

:15:54. > :15:57.get rounded down. The man sitting next to me knows what it takes to

:15:58. > :16:02.win then. He won that the hardware. That might have been his worst race

:16:03. > :16:06.of the seasonal one of them but he got it. He has won the gold medal.

:16:07. > :16:10.Well done. All of that hard work, all of those injuries can be

:16:11. > :16:11.forgotten now. He is rewarded with the title of European indoor

:16:12. > :16:26.champion. He joins Colin Jackson, who won it

:16:27. > :16:29.three times. And Colin will have a little look at this. But, that was

:16:30. > :16:32.not one of his best. He found a way to win an is what is important. That

:16:33. > :16:34.will always be crucial. Forget that time. The most important thing is

:16:35. > :16:38.that he has this title. He has run fast all season. We know he has the

:16:39. > :16:42.performances behind him. He was a little bit left of the blocks. That

:16:43. > :16:45.was the vital thing is that you want to get to the first hurdle as

:16:46. > :16:51.quickly as you can he fought his way through foot at this is where he has

:16:52. > :16:54.shown he is a true champion. In circumstances and situations like

:16:55. > :16:58.this, he can deliver a performance was that will always be the most

:16:59. > :17:01.important thing. That will fill him with more confidence than anything

:17:02. > :17:05.else than running fast times even. The fact he knows he can call

:17:06. > :17:15.himself through and clattering the hurdles. This is not fast at all he

:17:16. > :17:20.will be relieved and happy. I think you are absolutely right. I said it

:17:21. > :17:24.was his worst race. I meant it was the best race of the season and his

:17:25. > :17:28.first one. He has got what he wanted. In terms of execution, to

:17:29. > :17:32.not get out of the blocks and hitting hurdles straight on but

:17:33. > :17:36.fighting for the gold medal. This is the quayside as champions does he

:17:37. > :17:41.did keep his cool. He knew there was pressure to the left and right of

:17:42. > :17:44.him. He knew what was going on. It is really good that he has pulled

:17:45. > :17:49.himself through, managed to get this title. Have a look at that

:17:50. > :17:54.expression takes the victory by one 100th. We know he is the champion.

:17:55. > :18:02.He is Britain boss Mac first gold-medallist. Well done, Andrew

:18:03. > :18:06.Pozzi. -- Britain's first gold-medallist. It has been well

:18:07. > :18:12.documented, all of the problems he had. In that interview, he is still

:18:13. > :18:15.the young man and still getting better as he himself knows. There is

:18:16. > :18:21.still a lot of exploring to do in terms of what he can do outdoors in

:18:22. > :18:25.the 110 hurdles as well. At the moment, Colin, outdoors, there is

:18:26. > :18:30.nobody completely dominated like we have had in the past. He has had a

:18:31. > :18:36.real chance in the summer. We have had back, session. We have talked

:18:37. > :18:41.about his potential in the summer. People sometimes must embody is not

:18:42. > :18:44.just a good hurdler, he must sprint well as well. I'm looking forward to

:18:45. > :18:47.hearing challenging the sprinters and showing people what he is

:18:48. > :18:51.capable of. Very quick between the hurdles. We had to be at the end we

:18:52. > :18:56.came up the last hurdle and fought for the gold medal. He has been

:18:57. > :19:02.awarded with European chart -- title. Right over on the far side in

:19:03. > :19:06.lane one, another former champion somehow got himself in for the

:19:07. > :19:10.bronze medal. A close race. No medal for the Olympic silver-medallist

:19:11. > :19:18.down in seventh. Gold for Great Britain. What it really in way to

:19:19. > :19:22.end day one. It must be so satisfying for an athlete when you

:19:23. > :19:26.have shown that form all season and posted those times. The moment it

:19:27. > :19:30.counts and medals that will be there for ever to seal the deal, if you

:19:31. > :19:34.like. Absolutely. That is what it is all about. When he had performed as

:19:35. > :19:39.he has done so far this season, it is coming through the championship.

:19:40. > :19:43.It does not matter about the timing. Given all the stress beforehand and

:19:44. > :19:47.a hanging around watching the women's final finally getting under

:19:48. > :19:52.way. How much do think that played on all of their minds in the men's

:19:53. > :19:56.race, particularly Andy? We saw him in the studio. He stayed sat on the

:19:57. > :20:00.chair, not knowing perhaps how long the fiasco ahead of the women's race

:20:01. > :20:04.would go on for. That is a sign of a champion. Someone who can deal with

:20:05. > :20:09.that pressure, closing off his mind and think about what he needs to do.

:20:10. > :20:15.For us it is very distracting. Let's not have too many. But what Andy has

:20:16. > :20:19.done, it is simply sublime. It was a scrappy race. It was not the best

:20:20. > :20:22.technical race but he shows his mindset was so strong. He is

:20:23. > :20:29.determined and you accept you what he came here to do. How much on the

:20:30. > :20:32.start line would have been going through their heads about those

:20:33. > :20:38.false starts question up with that have contributed to what was not his

:20:39. > :20:43.greatest art? I think nothing. What would that start be down to? You get

:20:44. > :20:47.caught. You get caught little bit and do not react in the way you do.

:20:48. > :20:50.You are a little bit tight. He will have thought about his first

:20:51. > :20:54.movement, or whatever his cue was going in. He has done what he is

:20:55. > :20:57.supposed to do. He is the world number one full study is supposed to

:20:58. > :21:00.win the European title and that is a massive boost for the team. When

:21:01. > :21:09.somebody does what they are supposed to do and wins a medal... That will

:21:10. > :21:13.be a great plus. That will ripple through the team, dizziness, the

:21:14. > :21:17.positivity. Also, the whole taking that race on from a Falstaff and not

:21:18. > :21:21.perhaps being as technically brilliant as he has been all season.

:21:22. > :21:24.Sometimes you are not always in the best condition. It is about that

:21:25. > :21:30.winning meant a la tea and knowing what to do when it counts. He had to

:21:31. > :21:34.be scrappy. He had to be more aggressive than he would have hoped

:21:35. > :21:39.to have been in the hurdles race. We are so used him being silky smooth

:21:40. > :21:43.over the hurdles. Was grit and determination and wanting that medal

:21:44. > :21:47.more than anything in the world. -- that was grit and determination. The

:21:48. > :21:51.ripple effect has on the team is massive. He did not know until the

:21:52. > :21:55.big smile came to his opponents are shaking his hand as if to conceive

:21:56. > :21:59.of the Great Britain fans are holding up that flags nervously, not

:22:00. > :22:07.sure if they were doing the right thing. He has got the goal. Thanks a

:22:08. > :22:10.lot. Gaby arrives in town and we get a gold medal. A gold medal from

:22:11. > :22:14.Andrew Pozzi and all of the hard work you have put in over the years

:22:15. > :22:17.and the injury setbacks they can all be thrown away now, can't they

:22:18. > :22:21.question the goal all is yours and you can build from here. We are

:22:22. > :22:26.starting to get there. A slow start. I sat in the box to be safe. I

:22:27. > :22:38.thought I thought I am not going to lose this one I gave everything for

:22:39. > :22:42.a dip on the line. I was not sure. I was over the moon. It was a scrappy

:22:43. > :22:47.race. We had to work hard to get it back after a slow start. I am really

:22:48. > :22:51.happy. It was not a clean race. You hit a few hurdles at the end. The

:22:52. > :22:55.determination and entered with the form and confidence you have got, it

:22:56. > :22:59.brought you through to victory. Even after a slow start, once was into my

:23:00. > :23:01.running, I felt like I could work back through the field and have the

:23:02. > :23:15.speed was a little bit scrappy and a bit closer than we

:23:16. > :23:18.would have liked. I got there in the end. You join exalted company the

:23:19. > :23:21.likes of Colin Jackson who has won it three times. What does it mean

:23:22. > :23:24.for you to get your first senior medal, and a gold medal? It has been

:23:25. > :23:31.a long road. With good determination I am over the moon and it is great.

:23:32. > :23:38.We have always known what a great and talented athlete you are. The

:23:39. > :23:44.dark days he must have seen -- this must have seemed a million years

:23:45. > :23:47.ago. I felt really confident. I had the opportunity to do the training.

:23:48. > :23:51.I have always been half prepare because I have not been able to do

:23:52. > :23:56.the work. To feel like I am starting to get there is everything it is

:23:57. > :24:06.worth it. Congratulations. Enjoy the moment. Seems like a good time to

:24:07. > :24:10.have a look at the medal table. The one goal that from Andrew Pozzi.

:24:11. > :24:15.Germany leading the way. Hungry getting shot put gold and the bronze

:24:16. > :24:20.in the pentathlon as well. Plenty more to come tomorrow at ten golds

:24:21. > :24:27.up for grabs on day to macrocosm we have it all covered for you. On air

:24:28. > :24:33.at 8:30am. -- De two. Onto the red button at 10am for the later on a

:24:34. > :24:37.big session starting at 4:15 p.m.. That is where you can see Andy Pozzi

:24:38. > :24:41.get onto the rostrum and pick up his gold medal. Hopefully there'll be

:24:42. > :24:46.some more a solid day today from those people who we have earmarked

:24:47. > :24:51.as people to watch. Laura Muir has come here with incredible form and

:24:52. > :24:54.smashing records all the way through this winter season. Yes, she has

:24:55. > :24:59.come here in incredible form but come here and set us up a pretty

:25:00. > :25:03.huge task. It was her toughest day today to get through the cultivation

:25:04. > :25:07.is of the 3000 metres this morning and come back four and a half hours

:25:08. > :25:11.later and qualify and look very good in the 1500 metres. Sorry to trouble

:25:12. > :25:16.you. Those lovely shots of Colin giving Andy, presumably

:25:17. > :25:22.congratulations. Looks like he is giving him more advice as well. You

:25:23. > :25:26.know what, in the dark days, having a sounding board sometimes with the

:25:27. > :25:30.athletes, fellow athlete, can help. I think it is great. Colin is a big

:25:31. > :25:35.supporter of Andy does appear piercing his potential and all of

:25:36. > :25:39.that is coming together. It is so lovely when summary with a wealth of

:25:40. > :25:43.experience at Colin has got and if Andy would go on and achieve the

:25:44. > :25:53.kind of things Colin did he would be a great athlete for years to come,

:25:54. > :25:56.wouldn't he. We do not use those athletes in mental ring support

:25:57. > :26:02.roles. We'll was assumed they would be a good coach. The more valuable

:26:03. > :26:10.in terms of insight and understanding. As the sport in

:26:11. > :26:14.Britain. He is just getting himself a microphone under his nose. The

:26:15. > :26:20.disappointment of learning the Nielsen twins would only be one. He

:26:21. > :26:25.has qualified for the 400-metre final. Would you say at this stage

:26:26. > :26:35.that she would be disappointed not to get off the rostrum. She has had

:26:36. > :26:39.two personal bests. Understanding what it takes, she has run so

:26:40. > :26:42.maturely, competently and put herself in the right position. You

:26:43. > :26:50.can never discount anybody but it would be a big ask. Why matter she

:26:51. > :26:55.does have incredible maturity. She is also having fun with it. She is

:26:56. > :26:58.in the final now. Anything can happen. When you go in with the

:26:59. > :27:05.attitude is not like having the weight that Andy posing would have.

:27:06. > :27:11.A minute left. If we do not look at your predictions, it will look like

:27:12. > :27:17.these are your predictions and they are ahead of the championships.

:27:18. > :27:20.Denise reckons two goals, three silvers and two bronze. You're

:27:21. > :27:27.keeping it quite lean. Tony is very excited. He is gone for 12 in total.

:27:28. > :27:34.I still happen? There are another couple I should probably put in now.

:27:35. > :27:40.Steve Cram going five golds. Paul, two less. I came in late. I was four

:27:41. > :27:45.I put so much time into this and analyse it, I'm just going to go

:27:46. > :27:48.three, three, three. Only five golds up for grabs today but ten tomorrow.

:27:49. > :27:54.Will Great Britain get their hands on some of those was that it has

:27:55. > :27:59.been a brilliant way to end day one with Andy Pozzi winning the 60-metre

:28:00. > :28:01.hurdles. Tomorrow all eyes will be on Laura Muir as she tries to take

:28:02. > :28:18.home the gold from Belgrade. One of the greatest races in

:28:19. > :28:25.history. He is going to get there. The managers to run is under way. --

:28:26. > :28:29.the Manchester Run is under way.
