:00:49. > :00:53.Welcome to Serbia and the beautiful city of Belgrade for our

:00:54. > :00:56.back-to-back coverage of the European indoor athletics

:00:57. > :00:58.Championships. It is day two of the three and already we have seen a man

:00:59. > :01:10.in a GB vest take gold. Here comes Pozzi and he gets it and

:01:11. > :01:15.is rewarded with the title of European indoor champion.

:01:16. > :01:18.Not bad for a day one and there are ten more golds up for grabs and

:01:19. > :01:23.plenty of Brits in contention including the 1500 metres where

:01:24. > :01:28.Scotland's Laura Muir is looking for her first international medal. It's

:01:29. > :01:32.going to be tight on the line. She makes sure. Hoping to show them how

:01:33. > :01:38.it's done loving Nilsson goes in the 400 metres. She looks fairly

:01:39. > :01:41.comfortable. And Richard Kilty, the Teesside tornado, looking to defend

:01:42. > :01:45.his title in front of an expectant crowd. Richard Kilty easing away.

:01:46. > :01:48.That and a whole lot more to get your teeth stuck into. Now, that's

:01:49. > :01:54.what I call Saturday evening entertainment. It has been a

:01:55. > :01:59.glorious day here in Belgrade, temperatures hitting 21 degrees. It

:02:00. > :02:08.is a magnificent city, sitting on the confluence of the two rivers and

:02:09. > :02:12.we are here in the Kombank arena normally home to things like ice

:02:13. > :02:18.hockey and basketball and athletics is doing it proud and we have a pact

:02:19. > :02:22.next four hours of athletics for you with ten golds up for grabs, and

:02:23. > :02:25.Great Britain sniffing around a good few of them but there are plenty of

:02:26. > :02:29.British athletes who have their eye on the main prize in this evening's

:02:30. > :02:33.session. Denise Lewis, Colin Jackson and Paula Radcliffe alongside me for

:02:34. > :02:38.this one, who are very excited because there are some really strong

:02:39. > :02:41.contenders out there, the sprints for the men, the semis, Richard

:02:42. > :02:46.Kilty is looking to retain his title and Laura Muir who I don't think any

:02:47. > :02:51.of our pundits have said is anything but nailed on for it. It is

:02:52. > :02:54.dangerous to say that. She is in the form of her life but she must get it

:02:55. > :02:59.right here and she must make no mistakes, she is the one to shoot

:03:00. > :03:02.at. But she is in that position where they can't run away from her

:03:03. > :03:06.and will not be able to out sprint her so as long as she stays out of

:03:07. > :03:10.trouble she should be all right. You've always got to have that sense

:03:11. > :03:14.of jeopardy that things could go wrong in a major championship so she

:03:15. > :03:17.still has to get round. In the men's sprints, slightly more problematic

:03:18. > :03:20.because we have had so many problems with the starter gun and it was a

:03:21. > :03:24.nervy time this morning for the sprinters, wasn't it? It was but

:03:25. > :03:29.much better than yesterday. The nerves have been settled, I think

:03:30. > :03:32.the officials and starters have got to grips with everything and we saw

:03:33. > :03:35.some good sprinting. And the times, not that we should take too much

:03:36. > :03:41.from the times in the heats, but the British men in three of the top four

:03:42. > :03:44.spaces, including the top two, Theo Etienne, Midget championship debut,

:03:45. > :03:51.it is really encouraging, isn't it? It is very encouraging -- major

:03:52. > :03:55.championship debut. Now they will fancy their chances, which is great

:03:56. > :03:57.to see, it will make it more competitive right across the board.

:03:58. > :04:02.Coming to a major championships knowing you have the ability to take

:04:03. > :04:06.the title is going to spur them on. It is great to see, certainly busier

:04:07. > :04:10.than it was in this morning's session, the atmosphere but then

:04:11. > :04:14.because there are a few key Serbian athletes coming up for the evening

:04:15. > :04:19.sessions. Let's tell you what is coming up for you in the next four

:04:20. > :04:24.hours or so. Andy Potts seat struck hurdling gold last night and we will

:04:25. > :04:30.see him receive it and hear the anthem at 4:40pm. -- Andreozzi. The

:04:31. > :04:36.of Brits, guilty, Theo Etienne Andrew Robertson in the semis and

:04:37. > :04:41.then the final letter. We will see Savea Oskan-Clarke and Kyle Langford

:04:42. > :04:44.as they aim to qualify for tomorrow's 800 metres quarterfinals.

:04:45. > :04:49.And Scotland's Laura Muir, the big favourite, in the 1500 metre final,

:04:50. > :04:54.could be the first of two big golds for her in Belgrade. Loving Nilsson

:04:55. > :04:58.is aiming for her first major medals, she has high hopes in a hot

:04:59. > :05:04.400-metre final. And completing the Brit Pack medal attack is Tom

:05:05. > :05:08.Lancashire, in with a shout of some precious metal. Here are the timings

:05:09. > :05:11.to make sure you are in front of a television at the appropriate

:05:12. > :05:16.moments. We have the high jump final for the women and triple jump final

:05:17. > :05:19.bow to take place, the women's pole vault final is also going to kick

:05:20. > :05:25.off very soon, it is always spectacular in doors and you want to

:05:26. > :05:29.be around at 4:40pm to see Andrew Pozzi who struggle so much with

:05:30. > :05:31.injury in the last few years at major championships, still seeing

:05:32. > :05:36.things come together in what could be a huge year for his career. At

:05:37. > :05:40.5:30pm it is the men's semifinals in the 60 metres. And then we have the

:05:41. > :05:44.800 semis with Shelayna Oskan-Clarke and Kyle Langford at 6pm and Laura

:05:45. > :05:49.Muir and Sarah McDonald get things going in the 1500 metre final.

:05:50. > :05:57.Loving Nilsson is the only Brit in the 400 final after she done at her

:05:58. > :06:04.sister dropped out ahead of the championships and Aline Doyle didn't

:06:05. > :06:08.make the final. At 7:15pm it is Tom Lancashire in the 1500 final for the

:06:09. > :06:14.men had at 7:55pm it is the men's 60-metre final and some of our guys

:06:15. > :06:18.could be done get a 1-2- three for Great Britain, they have the

:06:19. > :06:22.potential. Great Britain sit joint fourth with Belgium after the Andrew

:06:23. > :06:25.Pozzi gold. There are only five golds up for grabs yesterday, plenty

:06:26. > :06:31.more medals you would expect to be added to the tally from today's

:06:32. > :06:35.performances and great chances as well.

:06:36. > :06:44.No big surprises so far, Denise? In terms of how things are panning out,

:06:45. > :06:49.didn't make the 400-metre final. If there was one athlete that has grown

:06:50. > :06:54.and demonstrated that she belongs out there it is heard a dependable

:06:55. > :06:57.shoulders for the 4x400 metres and also a solid performer in

:06:58. > :07:00.championships, so to see her, I don't think she overcooked it, it

:07:01. > :07:07.was just one of those things that happens in races, she went hard, she

:07:08. > :07:10.had to do it and just missed out on qualification. Sarah McDonald also

:07:11. > :07:15.in the 1500 metre final with Laura Muir, what kind of performance can

:07:16. > :07:18.we expect from her? Bit of an unknown quantity for the rest of the

:07:19. > :07:23.pack. Absolutely. Coming here was already a big step up coming to a

:07:24. > :07:27.major championships and to make the final and run as well as she did to

:07:28. > :07:30.qualify outright in the heats will have given her a big boost to her

:07:31. > :07:35.confidence. I think she was just go into that final with very much the

:07:36. > :07:38.opinion of, OK, I will just give it my best shot, everything that

:07:39. > :07:42.happens here is just a bonus because making the final was already a big

:07:43. > :07:55.step forward. And Tom Lancashire, we should look out for him. Coached by

:07:56. > :07:58.Steve Cram, he's done very well so far. Do you see him getting into the

:07:59. > :08:01.medals? He is capable of it and Tom has taken big steps forward with his

:08:02. > :08:03.confidence this season, at the beginning of the season he wasn't

:08:04. > :08:06.really seeing it click. He got himself in the right positions, he

:08:07. > :08:09.was really unlucky because he got bumped and lost much faster time but

:08:10. > :08:12.if he gets it right he is strong and needs to believe himself, in himself

:08:13. > :08:14.more but he is capable of getting a medal. You will have your eyes on

:08:15. > :08:16.how the tallies are working their way up because these are your

:08:17. > :08:22.predictions ahead of these championships. Colin is quite mean.

:08:23. > :08:25.He has gone for four golds but only to my Chris Old and two bronze

:08:26. > :08:31.giving a total of six but I make that eight, we need to change that.

:08:32. > :08:35.Denise has got eight which is correct maths, but you are going for

:08:36. > :08:39.three golds. Everybody saying Laura is nailed on and we already have

:08:40. > :08:42.Andy, so you don't think any more golds? I didn't want to be

:08:43. > :08:46.conservative, I didn't want to be put into this position, named and

:08:47. > :08:49.shamed! But I think this is a challenge, I didn't want to put

:08:50. > :08:54.Laura under pressure to get two golds so I have just gone for the

:08:55. > :08:59.one, for a change, and might tamper with the figures afterwards. But I'm

:09:00. > :09:01.thinking Richard Kilty might. You will obviously put your money on

:09:02. > :09:07.Laura so you don't think Richard will reclaim his title? I always put

:09:08. > :09:09.too much thought into this. I thought, how many? Take off some

:09:10. > :09:15.disasters and that is what it will be. You have more tallied? I went

:09:16. > :09:19.for how many I thought and then took some off so that might be more

:09:20. > :09:22.realistic. I think Laura took too much time thinking about that, don't

:09:23. > :09:26.you? CHUCKLES

:09:27. > :09:30.Earlier today was the men's shot put qualifying, you might have seen that

:09:31. > :09:34.on the red button and one of the big names for Serbia was out there and

:09:35. > :09:38.he wasn't having the best morning and he left it down to the final

:09:39. > :09:42.throw in the shot put to make the final so he gave at every effort and

:09:43. > :09:46.put everything into it and it was so much that it went over the netting

:09:47. > :09:51.and onto the track, which would ordinarily be not a problem if, of

:09:52. > :09:55.course, there wasn't an athlete in the way. You can see a little bit

:09:56. > :09:59.from this angle, a blue vested athlete sprinting out of the way but

:10:00. > :10:03.showing you the other angle, have a look at the other athlete near the

:10:04. > :10:06.meeting it was Robbie Grabarz in the middle of trying to qualify for the

:10:07. > :10:10.high jump final, and luckily he has a good turn of pace and he has his

:10:11. > :10:19.wits about him because he sees the shot put, sprints away and it runs

:10:20. > :10:21.almost exactly where he was but the shot put carries on running at the

:10:22. > :10:24.same speed as the long jumper, almost beating her to the sand in

:10:25. > :10:26.the long jump competition, all in a morning's work, everyone seemed very

:10:27. > :10:29.nonplussed about it and it was eventually rescued. If anybody tells

:10:30. > :10:34.you athletics is not a dangerous sport they are not watching closely

:10:35. > :10:38.enough. Welcome to the indoors, this happens! You have got to keep your

:10:39. > :10:42.eye out, there is a lot going on, it is very close, even though this is

:10:43. > :10:45.one of the better arenas but I've seen it happen before. They cram so

:10:46. > :10:48.much into a tight space and one of the events where that can make a

:10:49. > :10:51.real difference is the high jump because running in from the

:10:52. > :10:54.left-hand side it is a tight run-up and as Tony talked about earlier in

:10:55. > :11:02.the women's high jump competition, final is well underway, so Steve can

:11:03. > :11:06.bring you up to speed. The women who made the final, eight of them,

:11:07. > :11:11.including Morgan Lake of Great Britain jumped very well yesterday,

:11:12. > :11:17.1.90 but watch out for the Lithuanian who jumped two metres.

:11:18. > :11:26.The Olympic champion from Spain. One of the main contenders. There is

:11:27. > :11:31.Morgan Lake getting ready, hopefully not dodging any shop that is. Robbie

:11:32. > :11:36.Grabarz dodging that shot put qualified for tomorrow's

:11:37. > :11:42.quarterfinal but this is the women's final. All athletes clear at 1.80

:11:43. > :11:53.including Lake, the bar is at 1.85. This is the first attempt. Really

:11:54. > :12:00.good. 1.85 looking in really good shape in those opening heights,

:12:01. > :12:03.Morgan Lake. You can see her coach sitting in the background. She has

:12:04. > :12:11.been across to talk to him between jumps. Cutting the corner off

:12:12. > :12:18.slightly I think was the message. I mentioned Ruth Beitia, 37 years of

:12:19. > :12:26.age, 6'3", Olympic champion from 2016. 15 competitions at two metres

:12:27. > :12:33.or better, as Beitia and she is the one to fear and is the most

:12:34. > :12:41.experience. 1.85 to match Morgan. Very comfortable indeed, showing her

:12:42. > :12:49.class and composure in a major and she will be the one to beat, for

:12:50. > :12:55.sure, as the bar heightens. 1.85, pedestrian for the Olympic champion,

:12:56. > :13:05.for sure. 1.89, the bar is raised to. Morgan Lake from the opposite

:13:06. > :13:09.side starting her run-up out on the track in lane two, as you can see

:13:10. > :13:12.she cuts across here. She made a mess of that. That was her first

:13:13. > :13:23.try. I mentioned the position she started

:13:24. > :13:32.in, she cut the corner off a little bit and gets a little bit twisted at

:13:33. > :13:39.take-off. That's how to do it, the failure at 1.89. Second attempt.

:13:40. > :13:48.Well, maybe not even as good as the first one. Got very close to that,

:13:49. > :13:54.did Lake. She cleared 1.90 in qualification, remember, tenth in

:13:55. > :13:57.the Olympics last year, Morgan Lake, won the world Junior Championships

:13:58. > :14:00.three years ago so she is very comfortable with these heights but

:14:01. > :14:07.she has put herself under immense pressure here. A shake of the head I

:14:08. > :14:15.saw from Morgan. Not sure what that means. Probably her best effort but

:14:16. > :14:20.three fouls for Lake and disappointment for her. She is

:14:21. > :14:24.beside herself. She knew that was something that she had the potential

:14:25. > :14:29.to clear, 1.89, just to remind you, the bar that was knocked off three

:14:30. > :14:36.times by Morgan Lake. That's three fouls and she is out. And as the

:14:37. > :14:42.competition continues Morgan Lake packs her bag and is asked to leave.

:14:43. > :14:45.It's not her day. Choosing not to do the multi-event here and focused on

:14:46. > :14:53.the high jump and it hasn't worked out, so back to the drawing board. I

:14:54. > :15:01.am sure there will be a chat. Three fouls for Lake at 1.89.

:15:02. > :15:13.So as you saw that the next height 192, this is Simic from Croatia.

:15:14. > :15:23.Came down on that. Someone asked expected to be a contender goes out.

:15:24. > :15:33.A rueful smile. Not what she would have wanted by any means. European

:15:34. > :15:47.bronze-medallist from 2014 Simic but that is the end of her day.

:15:48. > :16:02.I mentioned the Lithuanian Palsyte, 1.9 for the bar is at. She is in

:16:03. > :16:10.serious shape. That is a very competent, capable jump. Denoting

:16:11. > :16:22.the European league for the Lithuanian athlete will be possibly

:16:23. > :16:28.the one to beat. Second best to Beitia in the past. A clean sheet

:16:29. > :16:39.the Lithuanian. It then turned to Beitia. 1.94, the Olympic champion

:16:40. > :16:48.strides out to match the jump of Palsyte comfortably. So Beitia,

:16:49. > :16:54.Palsyte, was built at the head-to-head -- was built at the

:16:55. > :17:03.head-to-head and it is going in that direction. A smile on the face of

:17:04. > :17:10.Beitia, clean sheet in first place. She is very used to that. This is

:17:11. > :17:22.the young 19-year-old Levchenko. Third attempt. A pressure jump. That

:17:23. > :17:30.is some celebration. Fantastic stuff. Superb, a lifetime best for

:17:31. > :17:36.the young Ukrainian. Won a bronze medal last year. She really throws

:17:37. > :17:39.herself at that. Look at that. A fantastic pressure jump. Two

:17:40. > :17:53.centimetres added to her lifetime best. Brilliant stuff. Stays in the

:17:54. > :18:01.competition. The bar will be raised. Personal best in the European indoor

:18:02. > :18:04.final. Okuneva from Ukraine, nine times Ukrainian champion, 1.94,

:18:05. > :18:26.unable to go clear so... Okuneva not even close to that. That

:18:27. > :18:27.would have matched her lifetime best, she has done that this year

:18:28. > :18:51.though. Not today. The bar has been raised to 1.96 and

:18:52. > :19:02.Palsyte to go into the lead. Yes. Looked so composed. Very impressive

:19:03. > :19:09.stuff. We knew she jumped two metres coming into these championships, but

:19:10. > :19:14.she is showing some championship composure as well, normally Beitia

:19:15. > :19:24.in the past putting the pressure on the opposition but that is Palsyte

:19:25. > :19:32.with a clean sheet there. So Levchenko as she did in the previous

:19:33. > :19:33.heights. But not this time. 1.94 was clearly enough. She was pleased with

:19:34. > :19:48.that. But a bronze medal for a 19-year-old

:19:49. > :19:55.in a major championship is very impressive indeed. Levchenko ahead

:19:56. > :20:08.of her team-mate, look at that, a lifetime best. So then Beitia to

:20:09. > :20:18.respond. Last attempt. Wasn't going to be. So rude Beitia, the champion

:20:19. > :20:27.last year who seemed unbeatable last year, major champion and what an

:20:28. > :20:32.experience she has had over the years. Really leans away from that

:20:33. > :20:52.and brings herself back but slightly missed timed. 1.96, just shy of her

:20:53. > :21:04.season best. Right then, Palsyte has won with 1.96, her second attempt at

:21:05. > :21:09.2.0 one. Easy. How about that. The nod from Beitia. The first time we

:21:10. > :21:20.have seen her face lights up. What an effort. I wanted to say it is a

:21:21. > :21:26.European league but the world champion from Russia has jumped 2.0

:21:27. > :21:33.three, no Russians involved due to the blanket ban. Palsyte adds one

:21:34. > :21:40.centimetre to her lifetime best and is confirmed as the European

:21:41. > :21:47.champion ahead of the Olympic champion, that'll mean so much to

:21:48. > :21:55.take the scalp of Beitia. The gold medal wrapped in the flag of

:21:56. > :22:02.Lithuania, what a performance. Done in style. It says the European

:22:03. > :22:09.league there and as I say that is without the Russian names added. We

:22:10. > :22:18.will give her that one. Two point 01, a lifetime best when it matters

:22:19. > :22:26.the most. Absolutely superb performance, came in as one of the

:22:27. > :22:30.favourites and absolutely delivered. There is gold, silver, bronze. 18

:22:31. > :22:41.years difference between silver and bronze. As you can see in lane for

:22:42. > :22:51.practising his finish Tony what did you make of this. ? I have had a

:22:52. > :22:56.high jump lesson here and it is a privilege to do this, I'm really

:22:57. > :23:00.impressed with the junior girl Levchenko, jumps into bronze medal

:23:01. > :23:06.position. If you look at the winner and the way she jumped,

:23:07. > :23:12.unbelievable, what a free neat. She comes in from the right-hand side,

:23:13. > :23:19.huge leap and the inside right leg, a big driven need up and over the

:23:20. > :23:25.bar, classic high jumping. If you looked at the textbook that would be

:23:26. > :23:34.it. Certainly she is world number one here, European number one, that

:23:35. > :23:44.I think is superb. A quick word on Morgan Lake, a difficult day for

:23:45. > :23:48.her? Morgan looked fantastic, 180 - 85, she had a lot of pop off the

:23:49. > :23:52.floor and really the run-up to let her down for me. She straightened up

:23:53. > :23:56.and ran at the middle of the bar over the last two steps, because

:23:57. > :24:01.she's running straight on at a diagonal angle it is difficult, you

:24:02. > :24:06.then have to rotate which takes you in towards the bar. Her third

:24:07. > :24:09.attempt was magnificent lift but not quite enough, really because of the

:24:10. > :24:13.rotation it is difficult to arch over the bar. Really unlucky because

:24:14. > :24:20.she was coming off of the floor fantastically. Really she would have

:24:21. > :24:28.been able to jump close to her season 's best if she had done that.

:24:29. > :24:31.So we're off and running for the evening session and yesterday was a

:24:32. > :24:43.great start to the championships with a golden and for Great Britain.

:24:44. > :24:57.Tight on the line. An impressive run from Tom Lancashire. She is

:24:58. > :25:11.outstanding multi-event earth. Looks to be comfortable. Men's six

:25:12. > :25:14.hurdles. Otaegui coming to an positive so. He got it and he won

:25:15. > :25:26.the gold medal. And there he is about to get his

:25:27. > :25:30.gold medal, his first major medal, can you take yourself back to that

:25:31. > :25:36.moment: when it was here and what it feels like? It's very special. It's

:25:37. > :25:40.hard to achieve your ultimate goal and it so good that Andy has

:25:41. > :25:45.returned in such a strong way. He would have fought this time last

:25:46. > :25:51.year he would be the fastest in the world and the European indoor

:25:52. > :25:56.champion -- thoughts. You know as well as anyone, when you train hard

:25:57. > :26:01.and an injury comes along and a really inappropriate moment comes

:26:02. > :26:05.along, as it has done with him so many times, not being able to get

:26:06. > :26:10.the training in, this could be the start of a really good year?

:26:11. > :26:17.Absolutely because that injury breaks up momentum and when it is

:26:18. > :26:20.more than one, it really breaks the momentum of the trajectory of where

:26:21. > :26:25.his career is going so this has got him right back on track and has

:26:26. > :26:29.given huge confidence. He stayed healthy through the season and has

:26:30. > :26:36.come here to achieve the main objective. And he, every time is

:26:37. > :26:40.injured, it's not just getting the fitness back and getting himself

:26:41. > :26:45.striding but the technical element to because hurdlers do not hurdle

:26:46. > :26:48.every time they train. It's him having to get as many of those

:26:49. > :26:55.sessions in and one of the things he said is he puts more sessions in the

:26:56. > :26:59.sea than the previous two seasons? Exactly. To me it is the mental

:27:00. > :27:04.belief. He had to adapt is training to get to the Olympics. It is the

:27:05. > :27:08.body of work that he has been able to put together which has allowed

:27:09. > :27:11.him and afforded him this. It is that patients of not giving up and

:27:12. > :27:15.it is a strong message for any athlete out there. We have had a few

:27:16. > :27:22.out there who have had a few destructive seasons. How good could

:27:23. > :27:28.this year be for him's should we expect him to make a world final and

:27:29. > :27:32.where should he finished? He himself will think he will make a world

:27:33. > :27:36.final and that is the most important thing. He believes in himself and I

:27:37. > :27:44.think he can be in a final and Nick medal. He is that good. The back end

:27:45. > :27:47.of the race is where he can be at his very best so because he is

:27:48. > :27:56.technically good it's means when he is under pressure he will not make

:27:57. > :27:59.many mistakes. He won't say executed yesterday perfectly but the times he

:28:00. > :28:04.posted this year gave him confidence that he knew he had it, the

:28:05. > :28:08.technical training to get himself through and to propel software over

:28:09. > :28:16.the final hurdles? And there is his gold. I missed the name of the back

:28:17. > :28:17.is it Bella? He has his own Bella the Bear and his own anthem to

:28:18. > :29:05.listen to. ENGLISH National Anthem Let's hope that that is the first of

:29:06. > :29:10.many for him and he will hear that anthem and see his flag fly many

:29:11. > :29:14.more times. He is only 24 years old and he has a very bright future in

:29:15. > :29:22.deed and apologies to the bear which is actually a lion. It looks very

:29:23. > :29:28.much like the bears are my daughter has on her bed at time but there you

:29:29. > :29:32.go. One person spare is another person is lying. We started the

:29:33. > :29:36.men's heptathlon today and Ashley Bryant had a really good start

:29:37. > :29:41.today. It was the shot put competition this afternoon and they

:29:42. > :29:49.got underway if you hours ago but here is the story to bring you up to

:29:50. > :30:00.speed so far. Away this time. Ashley Bryant got off to a good start. It

:30:01. > :30:07.is all about the time 7.0 five. Dudas is a quick sprinter. Anything

:30:08. > :30:08.close to his personal best this year would be a good start for Ashley

:30:09. > :30:26.Bryant. So Ashley Bryant round two. Better

:30:27. > :30:38.on the board. That is a big jump. Ashley Bryant a glance out to the

:30:39. > :30:42.scoreboard, looks better on the board, slight rotation, still has a

:30:43. > :30:46.little bit of space there but an improvement, just looking down there

:30:47. > :30:48.he can't do that, hard when you try to make the adjustments but it

:30:49. > :31:02.affects your head position. So after two events Ashley Bryant in

:31:03. > :31:06.second place, he has had a good season breaking his personal best

:31:07. > :31:11.throughout the season in various events and here it is the seven

:31:12. > :31:15.events over two days. Looking at the second page you can see Lee Ramsay

:31:16. > :31:20.is also getting himself off to a good start. He can do a good start

:31:21. > :31:34.next up is the shot put. Third event of the seven, shot put,

:31:35. > :31:39.and Ashley Bryant started the day well, the lifetime best in the

:31:40. > :31:47.Sprint. Could have maybe squeezed out a little more. 7.66 in the long

:31:48. > :32:02.jump but solid, and in the shot put this is his third attempt. That will

:32:03. > :32:06.be measured at 14.57. Ashley Bryant very close to his lifetime best

:32:07. > :32:11.which he did very recently, well, early January, in Sheffield, 14.65,

:32:12. > :32:23.so within a few centimetres of what he is capable of. Very capable

:32:24. > :32:31.shot-putter, of Montenegro, Darko Pesic, uses his leave as well.

:32:32. > :32:37.16-metre man. Big shout from Pesic, champion from last year. The

:32:38. > :32:45.penultimate event of day one, just the high jump remaining. 60, hurdle,

:32:46. > :32:48.pole vault and 1000 metres tomorrow. Pesic will move up into eighth place

:32:49. > :33:01.at the end of that shot put competition. Here is the main man,

:33:02. > :33:07.the silver-medallist from Rio last year, Kevin Mayer.. Season's best of

:33:08. > :33:11.over 50 metres. Kevin Mayer smashed his own lifetime best by over 300

:33:12. > :33:20.points in Rio. Thriving under the pressure of the Olympics, doing

:33:21. > :33:23.pretty well here as well. Kevin Mayer, a shake of the head, I don't

:33:24. > :33:29.think that means he didn't like it in any way at all. Because he is in

:33:30. > :33:36.serious shape at the start of the day, 695 in the sprints, 7.64 in the

:33:37. > :33:50.long jump, and that was a big effort in the shot put, 15.66 metres,

:33:51. > :33:54.season's best. Here is Adam Sebastian Helcelet of the Czech

:33:55. > :33:59.Republic. Some history, European silver-medallist, good experience.

:34:00. > :34:11.Down the left sector, but good effort for him, his best of the

:34:12. > :34:22.afternoon. Helcelet doing his chances of an overall medal some

:34:23. > :34:28.good there. 15.25, his best, but Kevin Mayer out in front ahead of

:34:29. > :34:35.Helcelet. Season is best for Helcelet. Liam Ramsey has had a

:34:36. > :34:38.challenging day so far. His long jump unravelled somewhat. He

:34:39. > :34:47.sprinted reasonably well but got caught up in a few false starts.

:34:48. > :34:59.Liam Ramsey with a lifetime best of 13.64. But gaining experience all

:35:00. > :35:03.the way just shy of his lifetime best. That was measured at 13.62. He

:35:04. > :35:11.gathered himself well after disappointment in the long jump. So,

:35:12. > :35:18.what did all that mean after three events. As I alluded to Kevin Mayer,

:35:19. > :35:23.the Frenchman, out in front, 76 points ahead of Ashley Bryant,

:35:24. > :35:27.putting up a brilliant series of performances and the

:35:28. > :35:30.silver-medallist from the European outdoors, Adam Helcelet, Ashley

:35:31. > :35:33.Bryant would love to stay in that spot. Liam Ramsey down in 14th place

:35:34. > :35:40.as we move towards the halfway stage. As I say, only the high jump

:35:41. > :35:46.left in that heptathlon competition over two days here at the European

:35:47. > :35:50.Indoors. STUDIO: The high jump for the

:35:51. > :35:54.heptathlon coming up for the men very soon, three more events for

:35:55. > :35:55.them tomorrow, a really great start from the captain. His high jump is

:35:56. > :36:06.pretty strong. He needs to be closer to his

:36:07. > :36:11.personal best, 1.98. Kevin Mayer, good pole vault, and high jumper,

:36:12. > :36:15.but what a great three events from Ashley, he couldn't have hoped for a

:36:16. > :36:20.better start to his campaign. They are just coming up behind you. The

:36:21. > :36:25.women's triple? The guys, they are coming up for the high jump. No rest

:36:26. > :36:29.for the wicked. What I was saying about Ashley is that he has had to

:36:30. > :36:34.wait for the invitation to be here because they select the top eight in

:36:35. > :36:38.the world and whoever decides not to be here but next one comes down so

:36:39. > :36:42.he is using the opportunity well and he has come with targets and would

:36:43. > :36:47.like get close to the 6000 points barrier. Fishing in the top eight is

:36:48. > :36:52.a big ask but anything is possible with this sort of good start. --

:36:53. > :36:56.finishing in the top eight. Being the captain gives an added sense of

:36:57. > :37:00.responsibility and we have seen it work so well for other athletes in

:37:01. > :37:03.the past where they step up to the plate. He enjoys being captain, the

:37:04. > :37:08.added responsibility has worked wonders for him. We saw Andrew Pozzi

:37:09. > :37:12.do what he was opposed to do yesterday, so he will be really

:37:13. > :37:16.pleased will that -- with that and think he is in good shape himself,

:37:17. > :37:20.so anything, let me see if I can produce and lead by example. So far

:37:21. > :37:26.so good. The first event on the track coming up later will be the

:37:27. > :37:33.men's 60 metres semifinal, three men going in that, who finished in the

:37:34. > :37:39.top four earlier, they think they can be in the final later and on the

:37:40. > :37:42.podium, but nobody with more swagger than the reigning champion Richard

:37:43. > :37:46.Kilty who is a master of the indoors over 60, former world and current

:37:47. > :37:47.indoor champion and Steve Backley caught up with him when he arrived

:37:48. > :38:01.in Belgrade. Kilty gets a flying start. Gold for

:38:02. > :38:03.Kilty. Richard Kilty is already moving away. It is going to be gold

:38:04. > :38:13.for Britain. Coming in as defending champion, how

:38:14. > :38:19.does that affect your preparation and your mindset? Yeah, it's a bit

:38:20. > :38:23.different, I've never gone into anything as defending champion, I've

:38:24. > :38:27.never defended a title. When I come into a 60-metre competition in the

:38:28. > :38:30.world everybody knows me as somebody who has won everything there is

:38:31. > :38:34.indoors so definitely people see me as a bit of a target but I'm trying

:38:35. > :38:38.to look on it as a relaxed thing and not as if I have a title to defend

:38:39. > :38:43.but just a fresh competition to win and go out and attack it again. How

:38:44. > :38:48.do you prepare for the perfect start? I think the best way to

:38:49. > :38:53.prepare is just have your mind completely clear and then when you

:38:54. > :39:00.rise on to set in my mind there is nothing there whatsoever and on the

:39:01. > :39:05.next sound I've always been known to have superfast reactions, and on the

:39:06. > :39:08.odd occasion reactions which they deem too fast. I saw one Quow that

:39:09. > :39:13.said Richard Kilty can absolutely defend his title at the European

:39:14. > :39:17.indoors if he doesn't false start -- Quow. They have been marginal and

:39:18. > :39:25.maybe in your opinion the wrong side of it by the letter of the law. Yes.

:39:26. > :39:29.But very, very close. How do you perceive it? The rules are the rules

:39:30. > :39:33.but I think they are a little bit dated and it is a bit of a round

:39:34. > :39:37.figure, the tenth of a second and it is like saying all humans can run as

:39:38. > :39:39.fast as each other but we can't, we have different people and everyone

:39:40. > :39:45.can be acted differently because everybody in a race has completely

:39:46. > :39:53.different reaction times always. Sometimes a tenth or apart. I guess

:39:54. > :39:56.I will have to wait lately for the process and then go but I will

:39:57. > :40:00.definitely be aiming to react a little bit slower and a slow

:40:01. > :40:05.reaction from me is still quite quick. You mention your competitors.

:40:06. > :40:08.How where are you of what they do, how they are running, their

:40:09. > :40:13.preparation? Or is it all about you and your lane? I think lots of

:40:14. > :40:19.people are threats, it is a Championships, people can pull it

:40:20. > :40:24.out of the bag. I did it in 2014, 60 6-1 underdog, and people can do that

:40:25. > :40:27.so you cannot count anybody out and you have to have respect for all of

:40:28. > :40:30.the people in the field but go into the race knowing you are going to

:40:31. > :40:34.deliver your best on the day and have the confidence that that will

:40:35. > :40:37.be enough to win. What would it mean to you to successfully defend your

:40:38. > :40:44.European indoor title? It would be amazing. It's the first major

:40:45. > :40:48.championships I have been in since being a dad and that has given me

:40:49. > :40:53.the motivation and it is a breath of fresh air to me coming into our

:40:54. > :40:56.lives, it gives you that bit of motivation and spurs you on that

:40:57. > :41:00.little bit more to make my son proud.

:41:01. > :41:05.Richard Junior will be at home with his mum watching his dad later

:41:06. > :41:10.today. He has a pretty good genetic make-up himself, Richard Junior,

:41:11. > :41:15.because his mother is a Lithuanian triple jumper. Today it is all about

:41:16. > :41:19.his dad because you can tell really dumb he really has the bit between

:41:20. > :41:22.his teeth. It must be so hard after being so dominant indoors at major

:41:23. > :41:26.championships because outdoors he doesn't get into those finals, this

:41:27. > :41:31.is where he really makes his mark and makes his name. It is about the

:41:32. > :41:35.outdoors, this is just a transition for him, yes he comes here with high

:41:36. > :41:38.hopes and is focused and knows he is the defending champion but I think

:41:39. > :41:43.it is important that he takes it one at a time and he has a good chance

:41:44. > :41:46.today. I mentioned he had a lot of swagger earlier and there was lots

:41:47. > :41:50.of confidence from all of the British sprinters in the earlier

:41:51. > :41:55.heats this morning. Let's take a look at them now.

:41:56. > :42:08.It is a good start, here he comes flying. He has pulled up. He is

:42:09. > :42:15.clutching his hamstring and he is done for, a real shame for him. That

:42:16. > :42:28.is a shame. Kilty gets away reasonably well.

:42:29. > :42:43.Manga alongside him. Kilty easing away. Close for second. He is having

:42:44. > :42:47.a bit of a rant at himself. 6.62, not his best start, but he was OK

:42:48. > :42:51.and safe and gives himself chance to get familiar with the starter. Moved

:42:52. > :42:57.nicely in the middle of the race, 6.61 is a decent start for him.

:42:58. > :43:04.That is a good start by Theo Etienne, look at him move away. He

:43:05. > :43:16.is flying down the track, takes the victory, 6.64. Good run from the

:43:17. > :43:20.Swede in lane six. 6.64 from Etienne Capoue there is lofty talk of a

:43:21. > :43:23.British one, two, three. Theo Etienne will have to deliver.

:43:24. > :43:26.Talking about being a youngster and perhaps the thing that he must deal

:43:27. > :43:32.with is going through the rounds and dealing with three races in one day,

:43:33. > :43:33.he has certainly shown himself to be pretty composed and strong in the

:43:34. > :43:44.first of those races. Not such a good start because Rose

:43:45. > :43:52.gets away well and Andy Robertson is into his running and will just sneak

:43:53. > :43:57.this one. 6.67. Sometimes he can really explode out of the blocks,

:43:58. > :44:01.Andy Robertson. I'm thinking that was a nice save. You heard what

:44:02. > :44:06.Richard Kilty said about the warning. The safe thing to do is to

:44:07. > :44:12.stay in your blocks, and then he came out and got into his running

:44:13. > :44:19.nicely, and got past the fast starting Rose and held off the

:44:20. > :44:24.challenge at the end. Impressive, Colin. Yes, all three of them were

:44:25. > :44:28.very much in control of their heat which is what we wanted to see. I

:44:29. > :44:32.think they will relish the fact they will be battling amongst each other.

:44:33. > :44:35.Perhaps there may be one or two reason who could interrupt it but I

:44:36. > :44:40.think this could be our first-ever clean sweep in the sprints indoors.

:44:41. > :44:45.That would be a good thing to see for them. I think they will battle

:44:46. > :44:49.really hard. It was interesting to hear Andy Robertson this morning

:44:50. > :44:54.talking about a head-to-head with Richard Kilty, never mind the rest

:44:55. > :45:03.of the field. It was in a really positive way. We're not talking that

:45:04. > :45:07.way. He was positive and said he knows him really well. This is the

:45:08. > :45:11.key thing, there is no intimidation from anyone and Richard is defending

:45:12. > :45:19.champion, so of course he is the one that thinks he will attack. He gets

:45:20. > :45:24.out of the blocks really well. His dad is here, he has his physio here.

:45:25. > :45:28.I think again having the comfort around you knowing your coach is

:45:29. > :45:32.there pushing you on, egging you on in the right way, and feeling very

:45:33. > :45:37.confident in what you are capable of doing, it really sets you up well.

:45:38. > :45:43.And of course, now, he will have two races back-to-back in the semifinal

:45:44. > :45:49.and hopefully through to the final. If you look to your right. Somebody

:45:50. > :45:53.who looks like Andy Pozzi. And there is a spare chair next to you, I

:45:54. > :45:57.wonder if he is going to be there. He will know what it is like to be

:45:58. > :46:01.winning. The guys will have reflected a little bit of what

:46:02. > :46:05.Andrew has done himself and feel really excited about getting on this

:46:06. > :46:10.track and producing a great performance. So, for me, I'm really

:46:11. > :46:14.excited. Andy is just getting miked up and will come on and chat to us

:46:15. > :46:21.in a moment and our floor manager Wayne is holding his lion! Who is

:46:22. > :46:26.Wayne? I don't know who she is talking about either? Mr Wayne to

:46:27. > :46:34.you. LAUGHTER

:46:35. > :46:39.I think it is matter Wayne -- Matt. I don't think people needed to know

:46:40. > :46:44.his full name. Andrew Pozzi took your mind away from things, so it is

:46:45. > :46:48.all good. You know what you said, I think it's really important that

:46:49. > :46:53.sense of occasion, how many times British sprinters have had an

:46:54. > :47:01.opportunity to win these events? Robertson, Etienne Stott, they are

:47:02. > :47:03.in the mix and they have to try not to make it a domestic battle --

:47:04. > :47:08.Etienne Stott. to make it a domestic battle --

:47:09. > :47:11.Etienne They have got to get out hard. Theo Etienne was impressive

:47:12. > :47:15.this morning because he was a reserve for the Worlds last year and

:47:16. > :47:24.didn't go. He was here today with a real swagger. He is 5'4" and his

:47:25. > :47:26.turnover makes him look bigger. Tony compared him to you in terms of the

:47:27. > :47:32.way he carries himself because he said you should really be 6'3" with

:47:33. > :47:36.your legs. This is really great to see. There is no sense that he is

:47:37. > :47:40.intimidated, he works hard out of the blocks. He has a really nice

:47:41. > :47:43.range of movement for somebody who is relatively short as a sprinter.

:47:44. > :47:47.Many people would have thought he would have had a lot of turnover and

:47:48. > :47:52.work more on cadence than frequency but no, he has a nice stride length

:47:53. > :47:56.and I think he could be a genuine threat. I'm really excited to see

:47:57. > :47:57.what this battle is going to be and how it will turn out. Andy Pozzi is

:47:58. > :48:09.here. Congratulations that was a wonderful

:48:10. > :48:13.moment. It was a bit tight. It was fantastic to see you up there to get

:48:14. > :48:18.the team going, a brilliant season you have had so far of course and to

:48:19. > :48:22.clinch it and really finish it off because all of the times you posted

:48:23. > :48:28.so far would mean nothing unless you can get that around your neck. The

:48:29. > :48:34.season has started and finished with this competition. Everything before

:48:35. > :48:37.was great in terms of setting me up for the future, it will lead to this

:48:38. > :48:42.and it wouldn't have been the same if I didn't finish of the gold.

:48:43. > :48:46.Let's look at you on the podium. You can see yourself of the aunt and

:48:47. > :48:55.coming up. We will get that in a moment. We will get you a best bets

:48:56. > :49:00.coming up. We have spoken to this season about how you have gotten her

:49:01. > :49:04.because of so many disappointments over the last three years. To keep

:49:05. > :49:08.going and have that perseverance you will be a poster boy for those kind

:49:09. > :49:11.of people who are struggling with injuries and an appropriate times

:49:12. > :49:17.and things come along that set people back so tell us about the

:49:18. > :49:19.journey. I think we have so many talented British athletes that get

:49:20. > :49:25.disturbed in their preparation through injury and the one thing you

:49:26. > :49:30.have to try to hold onto is that talent is not going anywhere and if

:49:31. > :49:35.you can fight through it you have support then it be worth it

:49:36. > :49:38.eventually. I'm really lucky I was well supported for the last five

:49:39. > :49:47.years without really offering a whole lot back in terms of results.

:49:48. > :49:50.Every time there is a new competition by the athletes are

:49:51. > :49:55.introduced into the arena at the women's pole vault is about to

:49:56. > :50:01.underway so they are being brought him, you are part of that razzmatazz

:50:02. > :50:08.yesterday evening, did you enjoy it? By friends takes me saying I looked

:50:09. > :50:17.terribly awkward. Colin said he wouldn't write it either. I was

:50:18. > :50:21.sheepish. I'm not sure I like it. Moving the event onwards, it's not

:50:22. > :50:28.for me personally, I wouldn't have enjoyed it. I like to stay focused.

:50:29. > :50:36.We like to see it in the relays in the world but this environment, this

:50:37. > :50:40.whole indoor environment is very impersonal, you're next to other

:50:41. > :50:45.events in close proximity so I imagine different levels of

:50:46. > :50:49.concentration. The atmosphere is impossible to escape, as songs you

:50:50. > :50:53.enjoy that and enjoy taking it all in then it is a great environment

:50:54. > :51:01.for words. I like seeing the long jumper whatever is going around.

:51:02. > :51:06.Tell me about what was going on with the false start yesterday and how it

:51:07. > :51:08.was affecting athletes, a record number of false starts yesterday,

:51:09. > :51:13.clearly there were technical problems, what was your awareness?

:51:14. > :51:19.You saw my final so I was desperate not to be a part of that and I had

:51:20. > :51:24.to in my heat and we didn't get away into the third time of asking so I

:51:25. > :51:31.was very conscious going into it. Because I came in in good form, I

:51:32. > :51:36.was expecting to not be walking off and to not raise within criminal. I

:51:37. > :51:41.tried to be a little bit safe but it went too far I think. We were down

:51:42. > :51:47.here when the women's event was happening and I think their work for

:51:48. > :51:53.in that one. The crowd were just billing and it's the first time I've

:51:54. > :51:57.experienced that much, even at lunch before coming down, everybody round

:51:58. > :52:11.the table was talking about. To the morning so we were well aware. --

:52:12. > :52:14.talking about the false starts in the morning. My starts had been my

:52:15. > :52:19.best bit all year, this is the first time I've come from behind, normally

:52:20. > :52:23.I'm good at hurdle won but it was new and a bit nervy I will be

:52:24. > :52:27.honest. My heart stopped for a moment before kind of kicking into

:52:28. > :52:32.overdrive and you can see there it is a bit messy but I was not going

:52:33. > :52:37.to lose that one. It was tight there and there was a brilliant get but

:52:38. > :52:42.what we were all impressed with was that you didn't panic and snatch at

:52:43. > :52:50.the early hurdles. That was going to be a concern, when you're slightly

:52:51. > :52:55.behind and you know, you kept a cool head and during the acceleration

:52:56. > :52:59.phase you are beautifully clean and that sets you up well, then you can

:53:00. > :53:06.chase. Let's have a look again, you can tell us about this. You can see

:53:07. > :53:12.immediately at this point I was aware, I felt this was my race and I

:53:13. > :53:17.got back in. A bit scrappy than I would've liked but I usually got up

:53:18. > :53:21.to moving at a quick speed we did the analysis from the first hurdle

:53:22. > :53:25.to the finish and it was maybe my best race of the season. I was

:53:26. > :53:33.dealing with a lot of pressure to content. I just remember coming off

:53:34. > :53:39.hurdle to thinking there is no way I'm winning this. So where do you go

:53:40. > :53:46.to now? What are your plans and targets? I have to follow this up.

:53:47. > :53:52.As you guys alluded to overran the quickest time in the world, the

:53:53. > :53:57.three quickest times for the worlds, so really I'm going to have a couple

:53:58. > :54:02.of days off and recover, go back into longer work and then make sure

:54:03. > :54:07.we can last for ten hurdles over the 110 distance. And then when will you

:54:08. > :54:11.start competing? We are going warm weather training at the end of March

:54:12. > :54:18.to the start of May and potentially at the end of April. It all depends

:54:19. > :54:22.I think. What a marvellous opportunity to be in this form with

:54:23. > :54:27.the home while Championships Leeming in August. Half a chance of that

:54:28. > :54:33.with London and the wheels came off but this is a different setup now.

:54:34. > :54:36.I'm miles ahead in terms of preparation. We've gained so much

:54:37. > :54:41.knowledge from the last few years in regards to training so we know what

:54:42. > :54:47.is maybe risky for me in terms of the past races I've had and getting

:54:48. > :54:53.the most out of it. We are admiring the shiny medal there, any story

:54:54. > :54:58.about why it has so many sides, what is the history of the design, do you

:54:59. > :55:05.know anything yet? You are asking the wrong person, I'm just happy to

:55:06. > :55:11.be wearing it. We will have to find out. It's a beautiful thing and

:55:12. > :55:15.hopefully the start of many for you, tell us about the team atmosphere

:55:16. > :55:20.and what the guys and girls are feeling and what the hopes for today

:55:21. > :55:24.and tomorrow? It's really strong and it's a really young team and with

:55:25. > :55:28.that comes a lot of excitement. Quite a lot of people are here for

:55:29. > :55:33.the first time and I almost feel slightly old on the team which is

:55:34. > :55:36.saying something. The team atmosphere is great and only last

:55:37. > :55:41.night a number of people are saying this is the best trip they have been

:55:42. > :55:46.on, a lot of coaches who've been around for years. It is good and

:55:47. > :55:51.we're here to get results and that is the most important thing, I'm

:55:52. > :55:54.glad to have started a tough world. We have incredible athletes coming

:55:55. > :56:01.today and tomorrow. You will be cheering them on from the site? Over

:56:02. > :56:08.the next 24 hours and handing on to bellow the lion. It's a white lion.

:56:09. > :56:15.I've been told it's a white lion. I don't know how I got confused

:56:16. > :56:18.because up close it is clear. Keep hold of that, keep your medal close

:56:19. > :56:25.and thank you so much, a great moment last night and many more over

:56:26. > :56:29.the next 24 hours or so. Andy has certainly put a marker down for the

:56:30. > :56:42.World Championships later this year, it promises to be a fantastic home

:56:43. > :56:50.games. Bolt! He's done it. It's a new British record. It's a mammoth

:56:51. > :56:57.job. A new world record. Sophie Hitchen what an effort. Elaine

:56:58. > :57:04.Thompson has Olympic gold. It's huge. A new British record. He's

:57:05. > :57:13.going to win the world title. A beautiful job. She has smashed the

:57:14. > :57:20.British record. Mo Farrah wins the gold.

:57:21. > :57:26.We are all looking forward to London, when we walked out of the

:57:27. > :57:30.Olympic Stadium and the Olympic park five years ago, I remember thinking

:57:31. > :57:35.we will be backed up while Championships and it was so far away

:57:36. > :57:41.and here we are a season away. What is about it, and is summarised it,

:57:42. > :57:46.he had a very different feeling of the Olympic Games and the Olympic

:57:47. > :57:51.park for him in 2012, what and how his life has changed from that one

:57:52. > :57:56.performance. He is so looking forward to those and now of course

:57:57. > :57:59.he can be one of the poster boys. Absolutely has to keep fit and

:58:00. > :58:05.strong and what a fantastic launch pad this is for him. And what he

:58:06. > :58:09.said was he had to train smart and modify his training to make sure

:58:10. > :58:13.that he gives himself a fighting chance and that is the maturity of

:58:14. > :58:18.him and his team and that's what hopefully will keep him on track as

:58:19. > :58:24.we head towards the Championships. Exciting times. Let's have a little

:58:25. > :58:29.look back at what was going on this morning. The women's long jump

:58:30. > :58:37.qualification this morning. Talk us through this. I have to say Lorraine

:58:38. > :58:46.was relaxed going into the competition. She knew what she had

:58:47. > :58:53.to do, her first attempt, you couldn't ask for more. A great

:58:54. > :58:56.position. What's interesting, she knows she has come into the

:58:57. > :59:00.competition being one of the big time favourites and that adds more

:59:01. > :59:07.pressure. I'm pretty sure after that kind of jump she will be going all

:59:08. > :59:23.right in the race, that good. Here she is. She is the poster girl,

:59:24. > :59:27.there are 60 flirt posters of her outside Spanovic. Boy did she come

:59:28. > :59:32.here and impress, roared on by the crowd that was here, powerful strong

:59:33. > :59:38.running, accurate and look at that. Over seven metres. Automatic

:59:39. > :59:45.qualification and job done. Brilliant. I was looking at her

:59:46. > :59:51.social media and in her hotel room they have a picture of the number

:59:52. > :59:54.seven which is the benchmark for world-class long jumping, she

:59:55. > :00:00.cleared that in qualification so you know she will go well. This is

:00:01. > :00:04.brilliant to see that. A home crowd victory is what he want to see and

:00:05. > :00:08.when it is the poster girl, we knew what it was like when ingested

:00:09. > :00:13.happening, she would do the same thing here and how exciting. Ugen is

:00:14. > :00:20.in the final as well and that will push the athletes on. We saw in

:00:21. > :00:24.Brazil how to upset the apple cart when you have the home favourite and

:00:25. > :00:30.of course Great Britain has another athlete aiming to qualify. Jasmine

:00:31. > :00:34.Sawyers who has been dividing her time between singing and long

:00:35. > :00:41.jumping. Her eye is on her athletics. It needed to be, she was

:00:42. > :00:47.struggling on the runway. I'm not used to seeing her like that. What

:00:48. > :00:54.we do know is that when the chips are down she is able to raise her

:00:55. > :00:59.game and bounceback. I can't imagine how she was feeling because she

:01:00. > :01:07.didn't get automatic qualification, she was outside the top ten. She

:01:08. > :01:12.needed to know this last charm. She squeezed them.

:01:13. > :01:19.Third and final attempt was enough. She got into the Olympic final and

:01:20. > :01:24.got herself up there in Championships, but she has kind of

:01:25. > :01:28.done what she usually does. Yes and the most important thing we would

:01:29. > :01:34.agree is she has qualified and she's there and she is there to fight

:01:35. > :01:37.another day. This is the whole thing, the crowd will be there

:01:38. > :01:41.screaming the whole time focusing on the long jump so this is a big

:01:42. > :01:48.occasion for both of them. Indeed come and she is such a performer.

:01:49. > :01:53.The Russian competing outside of her nationality because no Russian

:01:54. > :01:59.competitors are allowed in international athletics so Klishina

:02:00. > :02:03.comes under the exemption rule. Here she is qualifying for the final. The

:02:04. > :02:11.green line is the qualification line. A goal that has gone over

:02:12. > :02:16.seven metres on numerous occasions. She knows she's done enough. She is

:02:17. > :02:28.calm looking but she is a beautiful runner. She could challenge Spanovic

:02:29. > :02:32.for the medals. She will be part of an interesting competition, she will

:02:33. > :02:37.be there, won't she? No doubt about it, that is what you want to see.

:02:38. > :02:40.These women are just doing the qualification, I say just, but now

:02:41. > :02:44.they can really let loose in the final. Those first two jumps will be

:02:45. > :02:49.vital and that will set up the whole competition. But as my speak to Tony

:02:50. > :02:53.in the infield. You are watching on the red button and commentating on

:02:54. > :02:56.the qualifying competition. Tell us about your thoughts of who you think

:02:57. > :03:03.will be pushing the whole competition all the way in the end?

:03:04. > :03:06.It is going to be a fantastic atmosphere with Spanovic, the home

:03:07. > :03:11.crowd will be out and we imagine it will be a pact stadium. Spanovic is

:03:12. > :03:16.the favourite, jumped over seven metres. I think she got a buzz from

:03:17. > :03:21.the crowd and the additional adrenaline you get from playing at

:03:22. > :03:26.home. She has coped with the runway better, it is bouncy out here and a

:03:27. > :03:30.soft service on top of the bounce. It is whether you keep the foot on

:03:31. > :03:34.the floor along enough that you get the absorption and get the bounce

:03:35. > :03:38.back as it worth. If you run quicker and your foot is on and off the

:03:39. > :03:44.floor it is a bit harder and it might affect the quicker runners. If

:03:45. > :03:49.you look at somebody like Lorraine Ugen, not that quick at the board

:03:50. > :03:54.but with the power she generates on the board, it is incredible. She has

:03:55. > :03:59.certainly put herself in with a shot. And then of course the young

:04:00. > :04:05.lady, the ex-Russian, the Russian girl based in America, has thrown

:04:06. > :04:09.the cat amongst the pigeons. Because of that that is where the medals

:04:10. > :04:14.will come from, probably those three. Thank you, Tony. Let's hear

:04:15. > :04:17.from Lorraine Ugen, the British champion who comfortably qualified

:04:18. > :04:21.and looked good this morning. She spoke to fill afterwards. What a

:04:22. > :04:25.performance. One jump, straight through to the

:04:26. > :04:29.final and a season's best, there has got to be thrilling. -- Phil.

:04:30. > :04:33.Definitely come I felt good in the warm up, I felt comfortable and the

:04:34. > :04:37.jump came out comfortably. Are you the kind of athlete who inherently

:04:38. > :04:42.knows how that will happen on any given day? Do you wake up thinking

:04:43. > :04:45.this could be my day? It depends, sometimes I can be unsure in the

:04:46. > :04:49.warm up and go out there and jump something crazy, or other times like

:04:50. > :04:53.today I felt good in the warm up and felt confident, and the first jump

:04:54. > :04:59.was pretty easy for me so I know there is more in the tank. What's it

:05:00. > :05:03.like? What is the environment like? With Spanovic competing and lots of

:05:04. > :05:07.Serbian fans it seems lots of focus was on your event today. Yes, the

:05:08. > :05:13.crowd has been all right. There was nothing... I didn't get a count, I

:05:14. > :05:18.only got one jump I didn't see the crowd reception but tomorrow I will

:05:19. > :05:22.have a better idea of how the crowd will feel. In terms of the runway

:05:23. > :05:26.and everything, you seemed to take to it straightaway. What was it

:05:27. > :05:30.like? It is really nice, I would compare it to the way the runway was

:05:31. > :05:34.at the world indoors, it was bouncy and I felt I could float on it and

:05:35. > :05:38.it is comfy for me. You can draw on what you did last year with the

:05:39. > :05:43.fantastic performance and the medal, for the final here. That is what I'm

:05:44. > :05:50.here for 100%, to grab a medal. I wish you well for the final. Thank

:05:51. > :05:55.you and thank you to our sponsor for keeping us going in the track and

:05:56. > :06:00.field career. Cheers, thank you. No problem.

:06:01. > :06:03.It should be said perhaps sometimes because she had her appearance on

:06:04. > :06:06.The Voice and she made an Olympic final and is a great athlete but

:06:07. > :06:13.that kind of profile on a Saturday night means Lorraine maybe doesn't

:06:14. > :06:15.get talked about so much and gets overshadowed and Shara Proctor, she

:06:16. > :06:20.has been jumping in her shadow as well that this could be her stage.

:06:21. > :06:25.It could be and there are so many personalities in track and field.

:06:26. > :06:28.She is just an unassuming a quiet, lovely person who lets her jumping

:06:29. > :06:35.do the talking. She got a stunning bronze last year at the world indoor

:06:36. > :06:37.Championships and knows what she is capable of doing. Season's best

:06:38. > :06:44.here, she has the ability to raise her game on the occasions. She can

:06:45. > :06:47.be inaccurate on the board at times but I know she is confident at the

:06:48. > :06:56.moment, she has been working hard and is ready for this one. Yes, spot

:06:57. > :07:05.on. She is so talented. Sometimes the event is so talented. There is a

:07:06. > :07:08.rich pool of talent. The only thing you can do is keep jumping well and

:07:09. > :07:12.winning those medals, that's the most important thing. Let's hear

:07:13. > :07:14.from her team-mate Jazmin Sawyers who did the qualification by the

:07:15. > :07:19.skin of her teeth. Safely through in the end, you

:07:20. > :07:23.showed what competitive instincts you have two bullet out in the third

:07:24. > :07:28.round like you did. I would love to stop scraping through two finals,

:07:29. > :07:33.honestly. The plan we talked about, try and get one jump, 6.60 plus

:07:34. > :07:36.because I'm in that kind of shape but I wasn't getting it right and my

:07:37. > :07:40.consistency is not there. As much as I'm learning I can jump far I'm

:07:41. > :07:45.still getting my consistency right and I'm not quite there yet in terms

:07:46. > :07:50.of up with these other girls jumping 6.80, 6.90 easily, I am still not

:07:51. > :07:53.there and we need to figure it out. Tell me what went through your mind

:07:54. > :07:57.when you needed to pull the jump out because you were in ninth position

:07:58. > :08:01.at that point. I were standing on the runway telling myself not to go

:08:02. > :08:05.home, you haven't come here to make three jumps. After I got out of the

:08:06. > :08:08.pit I thought you might be getting three jumps. But at the end of the

:08:09. > :08:12.day I've done the job. The point is to get the final and I'm in the

:08:13. > :08:20.final and everything can change tomorrow. We have seen what the four

:08:21. > :08:24.successive years, once you are in a final we know what damage you can

:08:25. > :08:27.do. The hardest thing for me is getting to the final and that has

:08:28. > :08:31.been the case a number of times, I never seem to breeze through to the

:08:32. > :08:34.final, this is always the case. I'd love to change that but I'd still

:08:35. > :08:38.like to be the person who scrapes through to the final and wins

:08:39. > :08:45.medals. It is going to be exciting because Spanovic, who you know well,

:08:46. > :08:49.she does a street event. Yes, in September and it was crazy. Amazing

:08:50. > :08:53.crazy, people here love her and love long jump so people are coming here

:08:54. > :08:58.excited to see her, you should have heard the noise when she was in. I'm

:08:59. > :09:02.excited for tomorrow. Enjoy it. Thank you.

:09:03. > :09:05.I'm pleased she is in the final because she is the kind of athlete

:09:06. > :09:09.who loves all of that, she loves performing, we know that, when the

:09:10. > :09:13.atmosphere is rocking we will see the big jumps come out of her. We

:09:14. > :09:17.will because she is an athlete that seems to thrive on, I don't know if

:09:18. > :09:21.it is pressure that she wants, but being the underdog seems to ignite

:09:22. > :09:25.this fire in her belly that gets her across the line when it really

:09:26. > :09:28.matters. She doesn't like being in that position. She would love to

:09:29. > :09:32.have qualified out right easily. But there is just something that

:09:33. > :09:35.happens, whether it is in qualification for Championships or

:09:36. > :09:39.trying to get into the medals you see the best of her when she is

:09:40. > :09:44.absolutely under pressure. I love the fact that she did a very honest

:09:45. > :09:47.interview with Phil. She said what is frustrating her, she knows she

:09:48. > :09:51.can get those big jumps out, and she knows the others are doing what they

:09:52. > :09:53.are doing and why can't I quite get there? She will get there but the

:09:54. > :10:06.most important thing is getting into the final and she does that most of

:10:07. > :10:09.the time. It doesn't matter how you do it, you get in there and now she

:10:10. > :10:11.leaves herself the opportunity to jump well in the final. She is a

:10:12. > :10:14.pocket rocket, the smallest in the field of the long jump. We saw huge

:10:15. > :10:17.jumps as well, size is not necessarily the absolute on the long

:10:18. > :10:21.jump. Will that limit how far she can jump ultimately in terms of

:10:22. > :10:25.pushing seven metres? Also, different surfaces will suit her.

:10:26. > :10:32.This one is very bouncy and springy on the board, some people would

:10:33. > :10:35.prefer to jump off the board. The way that Jazmin Sawyers jumps is she

:10:36. > :10:41.is explosive of the board which could help her in a circumstance

:10:42. > :10:44.like this. It could be 6.80, 6.90 she can do ultimately. I think

:10:45. > :10:48.mechanics are mechanics, good mechanics can afford you a lot, and

:10:49. > :10:53.she has just changed her coach, well, not just, but she's been

:10:54. > :10:57.working in Birmingham and she has left her long-term coach who guided

:10:58. > :11:02.her to all of those medals. I think now she is learning some new

:11:03. > :11:05.techniques, a new setup and she will find her way but she must be

:11:06. > :11:09.patient. She has certainly got the bit between her teeth in this one so

:11:10. > :11:14.let's hope she can pull out a big one. Another area where Britain is

:11:15. > :11:17.blessed with talent at the moment is the high jump, three men going for

:11:18. > :11:22.qualification earlier today. Let's start with Allan Smith and another

:11:23. > :11:26.one who has a very relaxed approach to his qualification. This is him

:11:27. > :11:31.clearing 2.25 in qualifying for the final tomorrow. That was such a

:11:32. > :11:35.smooth jumper, wasn't it? What we have seen with our team, all of them

:11:36. > :11:40.are believing in their abilities now. They can jump high, they can

:11:41. > :11:46.produce when it matters, and it is good domestic competition. When you

:11:47. > :11:53.have world-class competition it will only drive you on. There is a real

:11:54. > :11:56.sense of responsibility, I can jump that height, I can do it any day of

:11:57. > :12:08.the week and he just managed to do that. This is Chris Kandu going at

:12:09. > :12:14.2.25. It was his third attempt at 2.25. Look at that reaction. I just

:12:15. > :12:17.love it. I was watching some of the high jump competition. They were

:12:18. > :12:21.getting great support from the crowd. It's about embedding yourself

:12:22. > :12:26.in this atmosphere. When you are young and new to all of this, just

:12:27. > :12:33.like Chris, it can be overwhelming. But he tried to use that, got over

:12:34. > :12:36.the bar, job done for him. Excellent work. And then Robbie

:12:37. > :12:42.Grabarz, of course, who has an Olympic medal to his name amongst

:12:43. > :12:48.others, and came fourth in Rio as well. This was his first attempt at

:12:49. > :12:54.2.25. He's been here on many occasions, as we know. Really easy

:12:55. > :13:01.qualifying jump there. Huge relief, looking very happy. The coach-

:13:02. > :13:05.athlete relationship is what we have talked about in previous shows and

:13:06. > :13:08.it's so important. He got the best out of Robbie, he hit a low point

:13:09. > :13:13.after the Olympic bronze medal a few years ago, got him back on track. He

:13:14. > :13:18.has had a bit of a setback with the appendix surgery. Here he is, he

:13:19. > :13:23.knows how to qualify. And then we have Chris Kandu here at 2.28

:13:24. > :13:31.because he just missed out on 2.25 so he had to keep jumping. 2.28.

:13:32. > :13:34.There is the crowd, he has the support, he's getting the emotion

:13:35. > :13:39.for this and the feel for the event and he is full of confidence, going

:13:40. > :13:44.to have a go but not quite got the height this time. Really frustrated

:13:45. > :13:48.with that. But what you learn by it, you know and gaining experience

:13:49. > :13:51.every single time. Of course, he will be disappointed that he

:13:52. > :13:55.slightly missed out on that particular jump but it is all

:13:56. > :14:02.knowledge, it is in the bank. None of these disappointments are things

:14:03. > :14:04.that you marked down as failure, never, ever. This is why it is so

:14:05. > :14:09.important, as Tony highlighted earlier, getting a clean sheet early

:14:10. > :14:21.makes a big difference and he has fallen victim to that. The Italian,

:14:22. > :14:28.2.28, his first attempt, Chesani and we can agree this was an impressive

:14:29. > :14:34.jump. It was. The Italians have produced some great high jumpers

:14:35. > :14:38.recently. They are in great form. One of their jumpers was injured

:14:39. > :14:43.last season but here is another man who knows the jump and the technique

:14:44. > :14:49.and he is in the groove. We keep going on about them learning all the

:14:50. > :14:53.time but the sense of confidence these athletes are gaining from

:14:54. > :14:57.jumping high and in these situations, look at the reaction of

:14:58. > :15:04.the coach, very pleased, he knows he has done very well. We are building

:15:05. > :15:08.up to the men's 60-metre semi-finals. Richard Kilty, the

:15:09. > :15:12.reigning indoor champion is out there at the moment, there he is in

:15:13. > :15:15.lane four, that's the first time we have seen the athletes on the track

:15:16. > :15:19.this evening and we hope for Richard's sake he can get up there

:15:20. > :15:20.and be a Euro star once again because Great Britain has great

:15:21. > :15:37.heritage in the indoors. Linford Christie getting ready for

:15:38. > :15:44.the final of the fastest qualifier. The start is so important. Linford

:15:45. > :15:50.Christie's weakest spot. If he gets a good one he could win. Away

:15:51. > :15:54.first-time and Christie away badly. Christie is storming through and

:15:55. > :16:01.Christie takes the gold. And he takes it from a standing start. The

:16:02. > :16:06.final of the European 60 metres indoor Championships. Christie got

:16:07. > :16:10.away reasonably well. Christie comes storming through. Christie wins and

:16:11. > :16:25.he takes the European title. Richard Kilty, we heard him talking

:16:26. > :16:31.earlier about his intent to retrain his crown and he may have to fend

:16:32. > :16:35.off the other Brits. They were the strongest runners today, three of

:16:36. > :16:41.the top four times when two British athletes. You would expect all three

:16:42. > :16:47.to qualify for the final? Let that the false start out of our mind.

:16:48. > :16:52.Richard is in there. The more favourable of the semis and who

:16:53. > :16:56.should get through comparably with fourth fastest winners getting

:16:57. > :17:03.through to the final. He's in a good position. What I like about Richard

:17:04. > :17:07.is his focus. Keeping that in check, we saw him handling his blocks

:17:08. > :17:12.making sure they are in place. How hard is it, you race to get in the

:17:13. > :17:17.final and you can't think of conserving anything back from final

:17:18. > :17:21.later, you have to secure your qualification? You have to security

:17:22. > :17:28.but he would look down the list and would say I'm the man in this. The

:17:29. > :17:32.confidence that is is out, especially for sprinters, you have

:17:33. > :17:37.to believe and be strong and he will come out like a rocket. He knows

:17:38. > :17:41.this is his favourite event, he is strong over 60, he is compact and

:17:42. > :17:52.solid, his technique is good and he knows the start is crucial. He has

:17:53. > :17:57.been in this situation so many times Richard Kilty, world indoor champion

:17:58. > :18:03.of course, defending European indoor champion and should he get through,

:18:04. > :18:07.we expect him to get through to the final, it will take place just

:18:08. > :18:15.before 8pm this evening. Was this one of your golds in your

:18:16. > :18:21.predictions? Of course and I am very confident. I walked to the team

:18:22. > :18:29.hotel and I bumped into Richard getting on the bus, ferry relaxed I

:18:30. > :18:33.would say. I think the point from Denise was right, it is definitely

:18:34. > :18:40.the easier of the two semis and he knows his main threat is from other

:18:41. > :18:46.British athletes. He will want to finish this to send a sign to

:18:47. > :18:57.everyone, the final a bit later on this evening. Three minutes to eight

:18:58. > :19:18.UK time. Kielty in the middle. Some others to look out for is Rantala in

:19:19. > :19:29.claim one. Bah from Sweden, former Gambian athletes, Sweden are

:19:30. > :19:41.starting to get an athletics team again, Mancini was in the heat where

:19:42. > :19:45.the Danish guy pulled up and came through and then Richard Kilty the

:19:46. > :19:58.defending champion, former world champion let's not forget that.

:19:59. > :20:07.Ready to go. He looks confidence. He looks very self assured, Veleba from

:20:08. > :20:14.the Czech Republic. He is in five and then next to him and improving

:20:15. > :20:17.young athlete Hamilton. From Sweden, not a very Swedish name, originally

:20:18. > :20:25.from Jamaica but moved to Sweden when he was nine and at 19 years of

:20:26. > :20:30.age, a new personal best this morning. Improving all the time.

:20:31. > :20:50.Menga of Germany. Running well this year. 6.6 six. And then Suprun from

:20:51. > :20:54.Ukraine. With all honesty, unless Richard Kilty has a false start or

:20:55. > :20:57.trips up there should be a fairly straightforward qualification for

:20:58. > :21:09.him? Neither of those will happen will they? Why are you looking at me

:21:10. > :21:15.as if I shouldn't have said that? So Richard that gets through comparably

:21:16. > :21:23.and then focus on the final later on. He doesn't even really need to

:21:24. > :21:30.make a good start the he wants to keep the run going and needs to make

:21:31. > :21:37.sure he has a good centre lane. The first semifinal of the men 60

:21:38. > :21:46.metres. Richard Kilty is into his run, he will win this one at ease.

:21:47. > :21:49.6.59, very impressive, didn't need to make the blistering start and was

:21:50. > :21:55.safe out of the blocks but how impressive was he once got moving.

:21:56. > :22:00.Really good. I think from everything he said he needed to do, he

:22:01. > :22:04.delivered. He is full of swagger and confidence and good form I think we

:22:05. > :22:14.can say now. That was much quicker than this morning, still playing it

:22:15. > :22:18.safe out of the blocks, 658. A strong performance from Richard,

:22:19. > :22:22.remember he is very much at home indoors. Really executes every part

:22:23. > :22:27.of the 60-metre race very well when he's in good form and shape.

:22:28. > :22:36.Shutdown were ten metres to go so you know he's very close to the 6.50

:22:37. > :22:44.mark. Didn't stress, didn't strain, very confident in what he's doing.

:22:45. > :22:52.Gets back on the soldiers of Mancini, no stress and very good

:22:53. > :22:59.indeed. A man in good form, in good shape, glances across to the clerk

:23:00. > :23:05.as he always does. -- clock. Bank, out he goes. He works hard for this

:23:06. > :23:10.first 10-15 metres so he can get into the nice bouncing rhythm that

:23:11. > :23:14.is going to be important to haul himself through. Leaving himself

:23:15. > :23:21.nice and relaxed, no stress or strain Andy Goode qualifier. The

:23:22. > :23:30.fast starting Mancini got through with Austin Hamilton and Bah going

:23:31. > :23:39.through. He's in good shape and a good place and now he can

:23:40. > :23:47.concentrate on the final. Confirmation. There are the other

:23:48. > :23:48.three going three, no fastest loser, just the top four and the next semi

:23:49. > :24:07.will be in a few minutes. Coming up of course in the next semi

:24:08. > :24:13.final, Andrew Robertson and Theo Etienne. Andrew Robertson, British

:24:14. > :24:19.champion and 20 years old, five foot four and this is big experience for

:24:20. > :24:22.him going in lane six. A big championship experience. He

:24:23. > :24:27.navigated well earlier through the heat and hats and swagger about him

:24:28. > :24:33.didn't see? He had swagger, he had confidence and he rightly should be.

:24:34. > :24:40.He ran well, kept all of his expectations in check and he knows

:24:41. > :24:44.what he has to do. Robertson a former rugby player, turned his

:24:45. > :24:48.attention to sprinting and has raced alongside Richard Kilty his whole

:24:49. > :24:58.life, all in the north of England sprinting circuit, races for sale

:24:59. > :25:01.and he is a great competitor and was talking about is not just the rest

:25:02. > :25:07.of the field but loving the idea there would be this British

:25:08. > :25:13.head-to-head. British champion, I think Robertson gives us a bit of

:25:14. > :25:16.spice. The head-to-head is what the sport thrives on and I'm sure it's

:25:17. > :25:21.friendly rivalry, they have known each other for a long time that this

:25:22. > :25:28.is serious to go full, medals are on the line here. Let's get to the

:25:29. > :25:32.commentary team. This looks to be more taxing taxing semifinal

:25:33. > :25:45.although Robertson and are quick enough to go through here. There is

:25:46. > :25:57.the line-up. The experienced Italian and Lopez from Portugal, moved in

:25:58. > :26:01.2013. The 19-year-old from Romania ran 6.69 taking the title in

:26:02. > :26:08.Bucharest a few weeks ago. Alongside him it is the UK champion, always

:26:09. > :26:14.played it safe, sat in the box this morning and might not be up to get

:26:15. > :26:22.away with that. He will definitely to get out sharper. Tumi and other

:26:23. > :26:30.indoor experts, short and powerful and has finished third and fourth

:26:31. > :26:36.last season. Not so quick this season. Another youngster in the

:26:37. > :26:42.season, Volko who finished second to Richard Kilty in the first heat. And

:26:43. > :26:54.then we move to Etienne who seems to be taking it all in his stride this

:26:55. > :27:02.morning. Very composed. Job done and moved on. Sweden could have three

:27:03. > :27:10.men in the final, Rose has been Swedish champion before but not this

:27:11. > :27:22.year. And Rene the slender hopes of France, fico not running at all.

:27:23. > :27:36.So straightforward first four to the final and the final in about an hour

:27:37. > :27:40.and 15 minutes time. Richard Kilty winning 6.58. Robertson said he cost

:27:41. > :27:46.himself a good deal of time with the start in the heats and Theo Etienne,

:27:47. > :28:12.both winners of the heat as was Richard Kilty. So...

:28:13. > :28:22.Robertson and side-by-side almost. Etienne takes it and perhaps Volko

:28:23. > :28:28.gets in. Etienne impressed most of all in the latter stages of that

:28:29. > :28:33.race. Robertson was out of their least sharply but Volko came through

:28:34. > :28:38.well, the youngster, that was most impressive so there will be three

:28:39. > :28:42.Brits in the final, we will look to see whether Swede was, it should be

:28:43. > :28:49.an interesting final to say the least. Volko 6.59 to take it. Strong

:28:50. > :28:57.performance from the young man. He is here and he means business. The

:28:58. > :29:02.winning time of 6.59, he announced himself very well here. Worked hard

:29:03. > :29:08.out of the blocks, drove all the way, good driving faith. You don't

:29:09. > :29:15.worry about coming up into that upright sprinting and running, you

:29:16. > :29:18.can drive for at least 40 metres and limit the time to get into full

:29:19. > :29:24.running mode and this menace doing that well indeed. Watching Andrew as

:29:25. > :29:29.well, on the right of the screen, didn't react as well as he knows he

:29:30. > :29:37.can. Managed to get himself through to the final, another good

:29:38. > :29:41.performance 6.63. It is another semifinal and he is coming in fresh

:29:42. > :29:48.for the final now, he has a race under his belt and I'm really

:29:49. > :29:52.excited. I'm still happy. Three Swedes have gone through because

:29:53. > :29:58.Rose made it through as well. Robertson easing over the line a

:29:59. > :30:05.little bit. Outrun thereby Etienne and Volko getting second-place.

:30:06. > :30:09.Three Brits in the final and they have qualified and qualified well.

:30:10. > :30:12.There is still a chance of a British one, two, three in the final.

:30:13. > :30:17.Robertson will have two really go for it, I know it is risky with the

:30:18. > :30:23.starts but he will be there to compete and there are the

:30:24. > :30:33.qualifiers. Volko getting amongst the British athletes. Three Britons,

:30:34. > :30:39.three Swedes, a Swiss athlete and Volko from Slovakia. And that is

:30:40. > :30:48.just before 9pm local time so a to B M UK. -- 8pm. Just over two hours

:30:49. > :30:52.for those guys to get themselves off to the cooler room, I'm not sure

:30:53. > :30:55.what the situation is underneath is, we have not been allowed and the

:30:56. > :30:59.stadium but there will be some warm up area and they will put some piece

:31:00. > :31:04.of clothing over the head, lie down and try to chill out for a while? It

:31:05. > :31:09.is so key. In such a short space of time all of them have to get their

:31:10. > :31:13.head down and make sure that they are just visualising one or two

:31:14. > :31:19.points that make a difference. We spoke about the start from Robertson

:31:20. > :31:24.and it needs to improve. His reaction time was 1.8, obviously

:31:25. > :31:29.slowest in his race. .1504 Richard Kilty.

:31:30. > :31:37.Cautious, shall we say? Cautious but they just have to go for it now,

:31:38. > :31:41.trust that all of the problems with the start are behind us and they are

:31:42. > :31:44.in the mix and they are so close now, it's just keeping that mind

:31:45. > :31:48.focused and not allowing it to wander and thinking about those

:31:49. > :31:52.medals before they have run. Colin Jackson predicted one, two, three

:31:53. > :31:57.for Great Britain, we will nail down the order in a moment. The women's

:31:58. > :32:00.triple jump is going on. The geography of this place is

:32:01. > :32:05.fascinating because it is alongside the women's pole vault that's going

:32:06. > :32:10.on at the moment. It is brilliant to see them side-by-side in that

:32:11. > :32:17.competition. Steve Backley. It is tight out there. Triple jump

:32:18. > :32:22.on the far side. The Britons still holds the championship record in

:32:23. > :32:25.that event. Here is a look at Kristin Gierisch, the world indoor

:32:26. > :32:40.silver-medallist, the German athlete in the second round. The lead at

:32:41. > :32:46.this stage, the Portuguese, 14.24, Patricia Mamona, the German chasing

:32:47. > :32:55.that Mark produced a few centimetres beyond that lead. So, Gierisch

:32:56. > :33:00.produced a season's best here in qualification, second-best overall

:33:01. > :33:08.in qualification, Gierisch. That was 14.3 thousand for another season is

:33:09. > :33:13.best to take the lead. In the second round. You could throw a hat over

:33:14. > :33:18.the top five athletes, just ten centimetres separates them on paper

:33:19. > :33:24.prior to the competition. Gierisch, the lead, with 14.37. This is

:33:25. > :33:31.Patricia Mamona of Portugal, European silver-medallist, sixth in

:33:32. > :33:36.Rio last year. This is round three, looking to wrestle her lead back. As

:33:37. > :33:44.I said she was leading at the end of the first round.

:33:45. > :33:57.14.25, season's best she did in the opening jump. In this round, slight

:33:58. > :34:00.improvement, 14.29, still shy of Gierisch. Just went up on that hop,

:34:01. > :34:19.come down hard. And so Papahristou of Greece, world

:34:20. > :34:31.indoor medallist from Portland a year ago. Good extension. One, two,

:34:32. > :34:49.three, really close there. This is also a third-round effort. So this

:34:50. > :34:53.is Papahristou, 14.24, just shy of Mamona and 15 centimetres back of

:34:54. > :34:56.the lead of Gierisch, very close indeed when it comes down to those

:34:57. > :35:01.centimetres. Season's best, very consistent, that might tee her up

:35:02. > :35:12.for something good later in the competition. Jagaciak Michalska, of

:35:13. > :35:16.Poland, her fourth round jump, look at that, bang on those three lines

:35:17. > :35:31.that denote the one, two, three position. Jagaciak Michalska, 27

:35:32. > :35:39.years of age, finalist last year. That was 14.14 metres, enough for

:35:40. > :35:44.fourth place, very competitive triple jump final indeed.

:35:45. > :35:52.Next up on the track in about 40 minutes is the women's and men's 800

:35:53. > :35:57.metres semifinals in just under an hour's time Laura Muir has her first

:35:58. > :36:01.assault on gold in the 1500 metres. Earlier today Paula was out for her

:36:02. > :36:05.run as she always is but this time we sent a camera with her and she

:36:06. > :36:18.told us exactly what Laura must do to win her first major gold.

:36:19. > :36:24.Laura could remember the city of Belgrade for the rest of her career,

:36:25. > :36:29.the place where she earned that elusive first senior medal, and it

:36:30. > :36:33.all starts with the 1500 metres. It's going to be tight on the line

:36:34. > :36:39.but Laura Muir makes sure. Laura has looked amazing all year

:36:40. > :36:43.and really strong in qualifying. The first thing she needs to do is think

:36:44. > :36:51.only about the 1500 metres, stay in the present.

:36:52. > :36:56.Little dumb middle-distance races indoors can be particularly

:36:57. > :37:03.physical. The second thing Laura needs to do is stay out of trouble

:37:04. > :37:07.-- middle-distance races. Finally, Laura is in excellent position.

:37:08. > :37:12.She's stronger and quicker than the others and she knows what to do. She

:37:13. > :37:16.just needs to stick to the plan and not get complacent. We all know that

:37:17. > :37:20.it all comes down to what happens on the day. But I firmly believe

:37:21. > :37:22.Laura's in excellent shape and perfectly poised to be our star in

:37:23. > :37:31.Belgrade. And then she carried on for about

:37:32. > :37:38.another 14 miles or so. I had a lie in. We shouldn't underestimate how

:37:39. > :37:43.big a platform this could be to launch Laura into the global metals.

:37:44. > :37:47.She was very close in Rio, wasn't she? Not just an outside bet for a

:37:48. > :37:50.medal but the race went another way, perhaps if it had gone a different

:37:51. > :37:54.way that date she would have been up there and she has been knocking on

:37:55. > :37:57.the door for a while, last year she was breaking medals and this could

:37:58. > :38:04.be a huge year in her career. It's important for her to produce at the

:38:05. > :38:07.highest level here. We know she can run very fast, she knows she can run

:38:08. > :38:11.very fast so the most important thing for her is to win these titles

:38:12. > :38:14.now. It is a big challenge and she is more than capable. Laura said you

:38:15. > :38:21.have to do one race at a time. We had an eye on some other talent, the

:38:22. > :38:26.Nielsen twins who did so well in the British Championships.

:38:27. > :38:31.Nielsen chasing Amy Doyle, digging into the line, and it is the

:38:32. > :38:40.Nielsens behind her on the podium. I went into the trials wanting to be

:38:41. > :38:43.top two, Lina didn't have it. I wasn't expecting to compete at the

:38:44. > :38:49.trials two weeks before and I had a disappointing race. I decided to do

:38:50. > :38:56.the trials and thought I should aim for the Europeans. Would you be on

:38:57. > :39:04.the team in the relay together? The relay would be amazing. We won medal

:39:05. > :39:07.last time. That was in the juniors? Yes, it's great to have the team

:39:08. > :39:11.atmosphere in the relay but have a member of your family is beyond

:39:12. > :39:14.incredible. What about sharing the same event? You couldn't be better

:39:15. > :39:20.friends, twin sisters, but you are friendly rivals. She was elbowing me

:39:21. > :39:25.around the first bend and I was thinking, what is going on? When we

:39:26. > :39:28.go into a race and I see her in my vision I don't think of her as my

:39:29. > :39:32.twin sister anymore. When we go into the race is on we are just different

:39:33. > :39:39.competitors. On the date she is not my twin sister anymore. As soon as

:39:40. > :39:44.the races over she's like what did you do, where did you come? What

:39:45. > :39:47.about away from the track? Do you have the famous twin telepathy

:39:48. > :39:50.thing, or are you not on the same wavelength at all? We have one thing

:39:51. > :39:55.that we find it strange which is that we share each other's memories

:39:56. > :39:58.which sounds strange. I will have a story and I think it is me who has

:39:59. > :40:04.been in that position and I said, do you remember the time I was in this

:40:05. > :40:10.position and she says it was me. We do share each other's memories but

:40:11. > :40:14.that is the only thing. I carried Jessica Ennis's it in the 200 metres

:40:15. > :40:18.heptathlon and I remember coming out and the crowd going wild before she

:40:19. > :40:22.had even run and I remember seeing her face and she was so focused and

:40:23. > :40:26.I remember thinking how is she doing this? She has been an inspiration

:40:27. > :40:33.ever since and I would love to be on the same stage. I carried a kit for

:40:34. > :40:36.the same race but carried it for the lane outside Jessica Ennis but we

:40:37. > :40:42.came away from that race saying that could be us if we put our minds to

:40:43. > :40:46.it and train for it. It's been five years now but I don't think we can

:40:47. > :40:51.quite imagine what the crowd would be like. I know it will be amazing,

:40:52. > :40:54.the British crowd is incredible. We would love to be on that track and

:40:55. > :40:57.running on the track would be a dream come true.

:40:58. > :41:03.Sadly that was done before you came out here and sadly, Lina, you had to

:41:04. > :41:08.pull out the night before the championships started. We can see

:41:09. > :41:12.that you have a brace on your foot. Tell us about why you had to pull

:41:13. > :41:17.out. On the way here at the airport walking through was quite painful so

:41:18. > :41:21.when we arrived I went to see the physios and they did an ultrasound

:41:22. > :41:24.and suspected there was a stress fracture but we couldn't confirm

:41:25. > :41:28.that until we have the MRI in the morning and it turned out to be a

:41:29. > :41:32.great two stress response, so the grade just before a fracture and the

:41:33. > :41:38.doctors and physio said it was too much stress. They made the decision

:41:39. > :41:43.to pull me out. How long will you be out for? I am in the boot for about

:41:44. > :41:47.two weeks and doing conditioning and rehab and then should be running.

:41:48. > :41:51.They have caught it early so I'm thankful. It was the right thing to

:41:52. > :41:53.do but you will be desperately disappointed you couldn't be here

:41:54. > :41:59.performing on the stage with your twin sister who in an hour's time...

:42:00. > :42:03.I'm already nervous for her. You share memories, you will share some

:42:04. > :42:07.incredible memories of these few days if things go well for her. What

:42:08. > :42:12.is a mindset like and how is she feeling? A mindset is to die on the

:42:13. > :42:15.line, she has said it so many times, I spoke to my coach and she said she

:42:16. > :42:21.will not treat it as anything other than another 400 and put her biggest

:42:22. > :42:25.effort in and go for another medal. She has to go out hard, you don't

:42:26. > :42:30.want to see her being jostled, especially the way it is indoors.

:42:31. > :42:35.The way she has run, in the UK trials and in Birmingham, she's

:42:36. > :42:39.gutsy and determined. She has just gone for it here and said I know I

:42:40. > :42:44.need to take these races by the horns and be in control. And when to

:42:45. > :42:48.react. I think she will run the same way and I would be surprised if she

:42:49. > :42:54.doesn't because it is so important to establish herself in the race

:42:55. > :42:57.early on. She is in lane three so it will be difficult and she is going

:42:58. > :43:01.out hard. Has she articulated the colour of a medal or the aim of a

:43:02. > :43:06.medal? I only saw her at breakfast and lunch, I left her alone to deal

:43:07. > :43:10.with her emotions and focus on her race, she hasn't got a colour in

:43:11. > :43:15.mind, just wants a top three spot. She is going for a medal? She's

:43:16. > :43:20.definitely going for a medal, yes. The two of you have been a great

:43:21. > :43:24.freshener, great to see young talent coming through, especially two twin

:43:25. > :43:28.sisters competing in the same event. Your poor parents, could one of you

:43:29. > :43:32.have done something a bit different? That is double the heartache for

:43:33. > :43:36.them. It must have been desperately disappointing for them when you had

:43:37. > :43:41.to pull out. My mum called me and said don't worry, you will be back.

:43:42. > :43:45.Just keep your head up and she has been supportive. For you, the

:43:46. > :43:48.addition of the hurdles in the summer, is that right? Yes, I've

:43:49. > :43:55.been training over hurdles which may have been the main problem with this

:43:56. > :44:01.foot injury. I was going to ask you because I know it is the hurdles.

:44:02. > :44:06.Where you completely unaware before the championships? Yes, couple of

:44:07. > :44:09.weeks ago it felt like a small bruise on the side of my leg and I

:44:10. > :44:18.thought I had my leg on the table. I was just walking through the

:44:19. > :44:23.airport. Such a surprise. It is a wise decision everybody is making.

:44:24. > :44:28.You have to look at your career in the long-term. Not just now. You

:44:29. > :44:32.want to be out there and competing. If you look at somebody like

:44:33. > :44:41.Andreozzi what he has done and how he turned career around, that must

:44:42. > :44:46.be an inspiration. Yes, he came out to me afterwards and gave me advice

:44:47. > :44:52.and that was really nice and he is an athlete I look up to, definitely.

:44:53. > :44:56.What else have you taken from this experience, Lina? Being around a

:44:57. > :45:00.team at a major championship is invaluable. I learned a lot, I

:45:01. > :45:04.didn't expect it to be such an official event. It is very well

:45:05. > :45:10.structured and formal, so I've learned lot a and I know what to

:45:11. > :45:13.expect the next time. It is a big year, for British athletes to have a

:45:14. > :45:18.home championships in the Olympic Stadium where we saw you carrying

:45:19. > :45:21.baskets in 2012. Was there a lot of thought about where the hair was

:45:22. > :45:27.going to go that day? We were told we had to wear the cap and so my

:45:28. > :45:35.sister wore her hair with the ponytail on the side. How old were

:45:36. > :45:41.you? 16. It is good those kind of mistakes get fully documented these

:45:42. > :45:43.days. Yes! You will treasure those memories for ever and now you are

:45:44. > :45:48.doing incredible things on the track and we hope to see you back in the

:45:49. > :45:53.summer. Do you have a target date for competition? Mid-May, late

:45:54. > :46:04.April. We will have to postpone that until late or mid-May but we will

:46:05. > :46:08.see. Keep calm. Thank you for coming to see us and I am sure we will

:46:09. > :46:11.speak to you many more times in the months and years ahead. Back out to

:46:12. > :46:16.be 800-metre men and women taking to the track. The women's semifinals

:46:17. > :46:20.first and Steve Cram is at the microphone.

:46:21. > :46:35.Two semifinals. The second might be slightly tougher but I am sure that

:46:36. > :46:43.Shelayna Oskan-Clarke will find her way through. Staying with the Dutch

:46:44. > :46:48.team, coached by one of the Dutch coaches. I have forgotten his

:46:49. > :47:09.name... But, she is making good pace and has

:47:10. > :47:13.been a prodigious talent, goodness me Hinriksdottir is only 21 but

:47:14. > :47:19.broken all sorts of records, most recently broke an Icelandic record

:47:20. > :47:31.and she will be a threat in the final. So she is in blame for and

:47:32. > :47:33.against the, a field which she would look at and would be happy to be in

:47:34. > :48:00.the semifinal. Verstegen was in the race that Laura

:48:01. > :48:04.Meer broke the record in Birmingham but she got a Dutch record of over

:48:05. > :48:12.1000 metres and talking about a thousand metres, the rare road a

:48:13. > :48:20.week after tried to break the record in Spain, ran slower but is she was

:48:21. > :48:25.in that race and ran an impressive 2.15 en route to her thousand metre

:48:26. > :48:33.time so could be a threat here. Has an strength as well and you need

:48:34. > :48:37.that. The top three to go through. Another busy night in the infield

:48:38. > :48:42.and they are tidying up around the track and you can see the

:48:43. > :48:47.photographers here and everybody being asked to keep well away from

:48:48. > :48:56.the inside, just checking positions and they'll all watching the pole

:48:57. > :49:08.vault and triple jump. It is crowded down here. The men's 800 semis

:49:09. > :49:17.coming up after this, Kyle Lankford going in the first of one of those.

:49:18. > :49:26.And as I said Shelayna Oskan-Clarke in the second of the semifinals. I

:49:27. > :49:38.can translate that. They starts were coming up, we were talking about

:49:39. > :49:42.that race, an incredible run. Seems so long ago. Verstegen on the

:49:43. > :49:49.outside, 31 years of age but a new personal best this year. No real

:49:50. > :49:57.favourite I would say in the women's 800, a wide open race, Guerrero will

:49:58. > :50:01.have confidence from the performance, Verstegen looks a

:50:02. > :50:07.little bored, she has folding her arms and they are her trademark, she

:50:08. > :50:17.is improving and the one thing she is doing is developing more pace and

:50:18. > :50:27.acceleration, Tkachuk from Ukraine 2.157 eight PB set in France earlier

:50:28. > :50:32.this season. From Luxembourg Mathias and won the French indoor

:50:33. > :50:35.Championships and then Troest who made the semifinal of this event two

:50:36. > :50:42.years ago and will be looking to go one better here. Hinriksdottir was

:50:43. > :50:47.down with our British contingent and we were watching her doing drills

:50:48. > :50:53.and speed work, really working on her stride try to shorten her stride

:50:54. > :50:57.to develop the acceleration. She does have a long low bestride if you

:50:58. > :51:06.like but I think she is working on that a lot and is beginning to get

:51:07. > :51:14.results all ready. The first of two semifinals. Verstegen spent all of

:51:15. > :51:19.her early career front running but she doesn't always do that now --

:51:20. > :51:23.Hinriksdottir. You can see she has gone off hard but will let some us

:51:24. > :51:29.maybe do the work. She knows she has a bit more pace and doesn't have to

:51:30. > :51:33.go and take it out hard. I wonder if that is the influence of her coach.

:51:34. > :51:38.She is well-known to sit at the back of the field and at the race unfold

:51:39. > :51:42.that you can see on Hinriksdottir's face it is hard for her to do this.

:51:43. > :51:47.She is naturally more relaxed at the front and is comfortable in this

:51:48. > :51:53.race today. Doesn't see a huge threat in making the top three and

:51:54. > :51:58.wants to run back to her old ways. It's partly because of the arm carry

:51:59. > :52:05.and the legs. To meet she moves better now, she has been working on

:52:06. > :52:15.her all-round strength and Guerrero in her shoulder and Verstegen on the

:52:16. > :52:19.inside. This is not fast but not slow and all of a sudden putting a

:52:20. > :52:24.bit of pressure on. This is what she did yesterday in the heats. She ran

:52:25. > :52:29.a fast 200 there but was able to mix the pace. So much stronger now than

:52:30. > :52:32.in the past and instead of being at the front of the race, looking as

:52:33. > :52:39.though she is desperately running away from them. Just a bit of

:52:40. > :52:45.acceleration as Guerrero comes to her shoulders. Three to go through.

:52:46. > :52:49.Verstegen holding the inside and are starting to turn it on a little bit,

:52:50. > :52:56.the Spaniard staying on her shoulder. Hinriksdottir has to use

:52:57. > :53:04.an strength. There is no fastest loser spot. Hinriksdottir is where

:53:05. > :53:08.she is from the beginning, Guerrero has a look behind and realises

:53:09. > :53:17.danger. Hinriksdottir find some extra that she has to keep running

:53:18. > :53:24.to the line. Verstegen run out in the end and Guerrero was working

:53:25. > :53:34.hard. Hinriksdottir ran out of steam at the end. Guerrero full of smiles.

:53:35. > :53:44.That's hard work. They all made that look hard work, a decent pace. Maybe

:53:45. > :53:50.Hinriksdottir's search was a bit too much. Certainly at the semifinal

:53:51. > :53:54.stage because she pushed under was starting to tie up significantly in

:53:55. > :54:00.the last 50 metres, you can see the expression and how Guerrero is

:54:01. > :54:06.fighting and the battle with Verstegen losing out and she will be

:54:07. > :54:16.disappointed having run a Dutch record earlier this season. Well

:54:17. > :54:25.Troest has done better than this time last year. Hinriksdottir after

:54:26. > :54:34.giving a lot of positive thoughts just fading at the end but the three

:54:35. > :54:36.are through with confirmation. Guerrero the winner, Hinriksdottir

:54:37. > :54:51.second and Troest joins them in the final. While we are in the final

:54:52. > :55:08.round of this triple jump. It's Shire. That would be success it

:55:09. > :55:16.seems. That hands the European title to Gierisch. She will have a jump

:55:17. > :55:26.anyway. She ready has a European lead. Just drifted in to that. I

:55:27. > :55:36.think the celebrations had already begun and finally it has hit her.

:55:37. > :55:45.Gold for Gierisch, silver in the indoor World Championships last

:55:46. > :55:51.year. Only a few centimetres separating the top three. Look at

:55:52. > :56:01.all the files. -- fouls. Gold to Germany. Well I guess when you have

:56:02. > :56:06.had a silver medal, that has been her major achievement, 11th and

:56:07. > :56:19.Olympics last year, golden Europe, clearly means so much. And here are

:56:20. > :56:23.the final standings. A leading performance for Gierisch and what is

:56:24. > :56:30.it, 13 centimetres separating the top three. Coming up next on the

:56:31. > :56:39.track is the second semi of the women's 800 metres. Shelayna

:56:40. > :56:43.Oskan-Clarke for Great Britain. She made the final in Beijing and was a

:56:44. > :56:55.semifinalist in Rio and what do you think are the challenges for indoors

:56:56. > :57:02.800, we saw in the last race with it having more bands and laps, what are

:57:03. > :57:13.the challenges faced? What we have seen so far in all of the races is

:57:14. > :57:16.that if you get caught out then it is difficult to overtake on the band

:57:17. > :57:22.and get on the inside lane which is where the athletes like to be, you

:57:23. > :57:25.run less distance, we know Shelayna Oskan-Clarke will hit the front

:57:26. > :57:30.because that is what we have seen from her before and she has to hold

:57:31. > :57:35.on, she knows what she has to do. Her strength is her self belief. She

:57:36. > :57:44.is a gutsy runner and is going to have to prove this here. Let's go to

:57:45. > :57:48.the commentators. Perhaps not the easiest semifinal for Shelayna

:57:49. > :57:56.Oskan-Clarke. The first semi was won by the Spaniard inside 2.03, but

:57:57. > :58:15.good competition here for Shelayna Oskan-Clarke. Good lane drop for

:58:16. > :58:25.Oskan-Clarke in lane five. The Slovakian champion Stukova. On the

:58:26. > :58:32.outside Velvere normally a hurdler but don't discount her.

:58:33. > :58:37.Oskan-Clarke, not a quick race but judged well, did what was required

:58:38. > :58:45.and has a habit as you are mentioning in the studio of

:58:46. > :58:50.delivering in the Championships. The defending champion from Switzerland

:58:51. > :58:55.Buchel, perhaps the favourite but a very open event this. Has gone close

:58:56. > :59:05.to going below two minutes indoors this season which is very fast. The

:59:06. > :59:08.European bronze-medallist in Amsterdam last summer, finished

:59:09. > :59:18.ahead of Oskan-Clarke in the Birmingham meeting a fortnight ago.

:59:19. > :59:29.And Clarice Moh a new indoor personal best this season. And the

:59:30. > :59:38.Slovakian athlete on the inside Stukova. Champion at two, four and

:59:39. > :59:43.800 metres a good range. And again a reminder when you are running 800

:59:44. > :59:49.indoors just watch for the competition at the break and

:59:50. > :59:54.healthiest it gets on this type track but Oskan-Clarke has a habit

:59:55. > :00:00.as we have said of delivering when the stakes are higher and producing

:00:01. > :00:11.her best performances, this is the second semifinal. Three go to for

:00:12. > :00:17.the final. Lindh, Buchel. It is a strong fast start from Oskan-Clarke.

:00:18. > :00:20.Oskan-Clarke tucking in behind. Trying to ease her way through on

:00:21. > :00:26.the inside but settles for second place. She put her arm up to say if

:00:27. > :00:31.you're going to go to the friend you have to put your arms up and do it,

:00:32. > :00:36.you can't cut in on me like that. She works her way around back in

:00:37. > :00:40.front and out of trouble and for me Oskan-Clarke has a tough feat today.

:00:41. > :00:44.She needs to run it as if it is a final. She does not need to think

:00:45. > :00:55.about the final, just races harder she can. In sometimes it is a

:00:56. > :01:01.straight three through to the final, Lindh moving around on the outside

:01:02. > :01:12.as well. Losing a bit of touch with the first five at the moment.

:01:13. > :01:18.Slowed through the first 400 metres which opens up the race, two girls

:01:19. > :01:30.who wouldn't be there if the race was faster, somebody like Moh, even

:01:31. > :01:47.Valverde, not accustomed to racing like this. -- Velvere. Lindh is

:01:48. > :01:51.digging in. She might be a danger. Up on the shoulder of Oskan-Clarke

:01:52. > :01:56.and Buchel moving up alongside Velvere who might have spent all of

:01:57. > :02:07.her energy with the boost up inside Oskan-Clarke. Lindh is there is --

:02:08. > :02:10.as well. Lindh has a good race. Good win by Shelayna Oskan-Clarke through

:02:11. > :02:15.to the final as a winner. Velvere paid the price force of three go

:02:16. > :02:19.through and at the head of them Shelayna Oskan-Clarke with a very

:02:20. > :02:24.good race. Very good and she has been spiked, I think she is checking

:02:25. > :02:32.her leg. She was caught a couple of times by Velvere and hopefully she

:02:33. > :02:36.can get their looked at and get into a cool down and get ready for the

:02:37. > :02:41.final where she deserves to be. She judged her race really well, she

:02:42. > :02:49.controlled it, we were worried over the first 400 metres. She was a bit

:02:50. > :02:58.slow. She held off her opponents and Lindh might have still been there.

:02:59. > :03:01.Luckily at this stage Velvere was tiring. She was not looking around,

:03:02. > :03:07.just making sure she guaranteed her place. There we are, Velvere.

:03:08. > :03:10.Oskan-Clarke drifted a bit and thought she could get through, this

:03:11. > :03:17.is where the spiking might have happened. Maybe she might also have

:03:18. > :03:22.caught Buchel's spiked unintentionally because she was

:03:23. > :03:25.shoved aside by Velvere. No actual huge shove and nothing that would

:03:26. > :03:31.warrant any kind of disqualification and that would have been to Velvere

:03:32. > :03:35.for pushing her way through on the inside. If you see a gap you are

:03:36. > :03:40.entitled to take it as long as you don't impede the others. Good last

:03:41. > :03:47.lap from Shelayna Oskan-Clarke, she goes through as the winner. Shelayna

:03:48. > :03:50.Oskan-Clarke, Buchel and Lindh, the three that joined the others from

:03:51. > :03:59.the other heat moving through to the final tomorrow. She is now talking

:04:00. > :04:02.to us. After a performance like that, understandably a bit

:04:03. > :04:07.breathless but thank you for talking to us after the race, Shelayna.

:04:08. > :04:10.Even when you were jostled you regained control. I thought that

:04:11. > :04:15.would happen because the girls were a bit closer time wise so I thought

:04:16. > :04:20.they would be more competitive. I couldn't afford to let them go. I

:04:21. > :04:25.just had to hold my line. You said yesterday that the nature of

:04:26. > :04:29.800-metre running, there is some jostling. Sneaking up the inside.

:04:30. > :04:33.There wasn't really a gap, she went up the inside but it didn't affect

:04:34. > :04:38.me too much. It might have affected her a lot more but I held myself

:04:39. > :04:42.together and thought I just didn't want them to get in front of me.

:04:43. > :04:46.It's a lot harder to fight your way back. To take the victory going into

:04:47. > :04:51.the final beating the defending champion in the process, what does

:04:52. > :04:55.that do for confidence? It gives me confidence. I think I'm competitive

:04:56. > :04:59.against her anyway. Thinking and doing it, feeling good going through

:05:00. > :05:05.the rounds, is a different thing. It's nice to go into the final

:05:06. > :05:08.knowing I can be competitive, especially on the Sprint. We are

:05:09. > :05:10.looking forward to seeing the final, well done on this performance. Thank

:05:11. > :05:18.you. STUDIO: You can see on the infield

:05:19. > :05:29.the pole vault is underway, these are the athletes contesting for the

:05:30. > :05:39.title. Most notably Stefanidi and watch out for the Finnish jumper,

:05:40. > :05:47.Murto, just 18 years of age. Would contest. No Brits. First up is

:05:48. > :05:54.Angelica Bengtsson of Sweden, fourth in the World Championships two years

:05:55. > :06:01.ago. 4.55. That looked very comfortable. Five centimetres shy of

:06:02. > :06:06.her season's best. Ten centimetres between heights as the bar is raised

:06:07. > :06:15.between successful efforts at these early heights. That reduces to five

:06:16. > :06:19.centimetres as the bar gets higher. Bengtsson coming European

:06:20. > :06:30.bronze-medallist indoor and out, looking good. Lisa Ryzih of Germany.

:06:31. > :06:35.She has seen Bengtsson go clear. That all German, European

:06:36. > :06:42.bronze-medallist a few years ago, silver-medallist two years ago. She

:06:43. > :06:45.is ranked second coming into this competition behind the Olympic

:06:46. > :06:55.champion. That is a good clearance for her at the same height of 4.55.

:06:56. > :07:00.So, Ryzih checking her take-off foot, not of the head, getting

:07:01. > :07:05.comfortable, getting orientated. We talked about how tight the infield

:07:06. > :07:14.is here, and getting your bearings is so important. Looking very tidy

:07:15. > :07:24.indeed, Lisa Ryzih, a contender for the title, for sure. I mention the

:07:25. > :07:29.Olympic champion their, Ekaterini Stefanidi but she carries a foul.

:07:30. > :07:38.She is very consistent. Good effort at her second attempt. 4.82, she has

:07:39. > :07:42.jumped this year, she says she is in 4.90 shape and she says she wants

:07:43. > :07:47.the championship record which is 4.90 but more work to be done.

:07:48. > :08:03.Tidied up the error from the first attempt. Stefanidi looking good.

:08:04. > :08:10.STUDIO: The men are on the track waiting for their turn at the 800

:08:11. > :08:14.metres semifinals and it is Kyle Langford going for Great Britain in

:08:15. > :08:18.the first of those semifinals. Steve Cram, he will want to improve on his

:08:19. > :08:25.tactics from the heats. Yes, he will. He was a tad

:08:26. > :08:29.fortunate. He has so much ability, Kyle, he can get into trouble and

:08:30. > :08:33.get out of trouble, he is a bit of a Seve Ballesteros when it comes to

:08:34. > :08:36.the heats but he can't afford to do that here. He has got to be

:08:37. > :08:40.concentrating better and not relying on his pace. He found a little gap

:08:41. > :08:47.on the home straight and got through. These are good athletes.

:08:48. > :08:54.Kupers, European bronze-medallist last time, the 19-year-old, very

:08:55. > :09:01.impressive, always improving, Kramer, from Sweden. He gets out

:09:02. > :09:06.well, as does Kupers. This is the man, to times winner of medals in

:09:07. > :09:09.doors, silver medal in 2014, but twice the champion of the European

:09:10. > :09:16.Indoor Championships, Kszczot. The man everybody expects to be the one

:09:17. > :09:22.to beat. Put it this way, Kyle Langford at his best, again, such a

:09:23. > :09:26.great talent, Kyle. If he runs... He always runs with confidence but he

:09:27. > :09:34.must also run with a bit of sense here, come in the top three.

:09:35. > :09:44.Renaudie of France on the inside of him and outside it will be de Arriba

:09:45. > :09:47.on the inside. They are not seeded after the first round. You would

:09:48. > :09:51.think two winners in one and one in the other but it doesn't work that

:09:52. > :09:56.way. Kyle has found himself in a bit of a tough one here. To be fair he

:09:57. > :09:59.has come here definitely wanting to try and win a medal and if you are

:10:00. > :10:02.going to win a medal you must come in your top three in the semifinal,

:10:03. > :10:08.even if other possible medallists are in it. He knew something about

:10:09. > :10:15.running 800 metres, particularly in doors as well. Langford and Kszczot

:10:16. > :10:19.were both in South Africa training, not together but they were at the

:10:20. > :10:23.same training camp. They will have had a chance to eye each other up.

:10:24. > :10:26.They will get a closer view of each other. Langford starts quickly,

:10:27. > :10:32.Kszczot will never lead, he will always hang around and use his pace

:10:33. > :10:35.as well. Kyle has really attacked this one early, got himself into a

:10:36. > :10:39.good position and he now needs to concentrate and keep his good

:10:40. > :10:42.position. Exactly what I was going to say, when he gets into the good

:10:43. > :10:46.position he sometimes has a tendency to let his mind drift from where he

:10:47. > :10:52.is supposed to be concentrating and not keeping hold of the position but

:10:53. > :10:56.he's doing it today, got himself on the shoulder of de Arriba, aware of

:10:57. > :10:59.where people are hopefully and he can use the big screen at either end

:11:00. > :11:03.and sitting at the back of the screen is the biggest danger, Adam

:11:04. > :11:09.Kszczot, I thought he was moving wide but he is just tracking him.

:11:10. > :11:13.This is very slow, Kupers realised, he is off under way, way too slow

:11:14. > :11:19.through the first 300 metres and gets a reaction, Kszczot happy at

:11:20. > :11:23.the back, Kramer at the back, I thought he would be involved. They

:11:24. > :11:27.have let Kupers go, he is good and strong. He has attacked hard,

:11:28. > :11:30.perhaps too hard, Kszczot is a long way off this, Kyle Langford in a

:11:31. > :11:34.good spot in third place but they are being stretched now and I think

:11:35. > :11:37.Kupers might pay for that because that was really a big piece of

:11:38. > :11:41.acceleration and they are chasing him down. He was a huge piece of

:11:42. > :11:45.acceleration, he did front run in the heat yesterday and ran hard but

:11:46. > :11:48.didn't use that much acceleration. Whether his legs can handle it and

:11:49. > :11:52.whether the other guys have an advantage, and dragged him back more

:11:53. > :11:56.slow but. De Arriba the real shock here, and Kyle Langford must find

:11:57. > :11:59.something in the home straight, he cannot get too far adrift because

:12:00. > :12:05.Kupers might just last it out, his legs must be tight, come on, Kyle,

:12:06. > :12:11.Kupers has done really well there. De Arriba, the surprise package.

:12:12. > :12:15.Kyle holds his hands up. That is a slow race, a tactical race, and

:12:16. > :12:20.Kupers pulled it apart for everybody. To be fair he was

:12:21. > :12:25.rewarded. Kupers was rewarded with a place in the final. He ran it

:12:26. > :12:29.aggressively. I thought he might get completely overhauled. Kszczot has

:12:30. > :12:34.so much ability to come back. This, though, was the surprise for me. De

:12:35. > :12:39.Arriba of Spain coming through as the winner. That wasn't expected,

:12:40. > :12:44.was it? It wasn't expected he would win this seat but he wasn't even

:12:45. > :12:50.expected to qualify. Little cheeky look at Kupers as if to say, "You

:12:51. > :12:53.overcooked that one." But he didn't really, Kupers was still holding on,

:12:54. > :12:57.Kszczot, you could see on his face that he had to work hard to get back

:12:58. > :13:01.into that position and now he could afford to look around to make sure

:13:02. > :13:04.he had qualified. In the end it was those three away quite clearly,

:13:05. > :13:08.round the bend into the last 50 metres, you could see on Kyle

:13:09. > :13:19.Langford's face he had used everything he had at this point and

:13:20. > :13:22.had nothing else to give, not giving up but he didn't have any more in

:13:23. > :13:24.his legs. Behind him, Kramer was the surprise and has not run well in

:13:25. > :13:26.that semifinal. It's always surprising to me, somebody like

:13:27. > :13:30.Kramer, he is a front runner, why didn't he go and do that? In a

:13:31. > :13:35.tactical race like that he comes last. Kyle is normally good in that

:13:36. > :13:39.sort of race when the pace changes. Kupers lasted it out, enough

:13:40. > :13:44.strength to do that. Kszczot looked very comfortable, de Arriba the

:13:45. > :13:49.surprise package going through. Kyle Langford, sadly, will not be in the

:13:50. > :13:53.final, in fourth place. That fourth place doesn't make great reading for

:13:54. > :13:58.you. We saw you shaking your head at the finish. What didn't work for

:13:59. > :14:01.you, do you think? I'm annoyed. It's one of those things, I felt flat

:14:02. > :14:09.going into it, tried to convince myself I was all right, during the

:14:10. > :14:15.race I was there but I just felt flat and with 200 to go I just felt

:14:16. > :14:23.that I wasn't moving well, I thought I was all right, and I thought on

:14:24. > :14:26.the home straight I would kick and hopefully get it but I didn't feel

:14:27. > :14:32.good the whole time. It's one of these things. I've got to bounce

:14:33. > :14:36.back from it. I'm going to get ready for the outdoors now. It is gutting

:14:37. > :14:44.not making it but my main focus is on London. Going into this season in

:14:45. > :14:50.doors I was not expecting to do this, or Birmingham really. So I

:14:51. > :14:53.didn't mean to do so much speed. I just focused on endure Ince and

:14:54. > :15:00.ticking over and in doors was meant to be a bit of getting the legs

:15:01. > :15:06.going. -- endurance. I take positives from this indoor season to

:15:07. > :15:10.the outdoor season. Taking the loss like a man. Get back to training

:15:11. > :15:17.harder and looking forward to a good couple of months with the team. I'm

:15:18. > :15:22.looking forward to getting back to training again. It is annoying not

:15:23. > :15:26.making it but like I say, loss is the secret ingredient to success.

:15:27. > :15:28.Its a good attitude to have. Enjoyed the rest of the season. Enjoyed the

:15:29. > :15:47.build-up up to London. Thank you. Here is a young prospect in the pole

:15:48. > :15:54.vault. World record Junior Holder. Someone to look out for in the

:15:55. > :16:03.future, Murto but it came crashing down for her today. Still a young

:16:04. > :16:12.athlete. 18 so still a junior until the end of this year but the

:16:13. > :16:13.lifetime best she brought into the competition would have done her

:16:14. > :16:38.proud. This is Murto from Germany -- Ryzih.

:16:39. > :16:47.4.65 goes clear. We had a little look at her early height and she did

:16:48. > :17:00.look good, it was all in Lineham, is the second ranked pole vault. We are

:17:01. > :17:13.getting close. She is looking very good, maybe asking questions of the

:17:14. > :17:21.Olympic champion. Here is the Olympic champion Stefanidi. Trying

:17:22. > :17:33.to match Ryzih from Germany. Yes. That will keep her in second place

:17:34. > :17:41.so she is carrying that error. 4.65 no such travel, she sorted out

:17:42. > :17:49.whatever it was, a good battle this. Germany versus Greece. .

:17:50. > :18:02.So then Stefanidi in second place so far. Ashley Bryant in the

:18:03. > :18:13.heptathlon. Third attempt at 1.9 eight. Yes. Goodlad Ashley Bryant,

:18:14. > :18:20.the team captain. The face of his coach, calm, tells us nothing. I

:18:21. > :18:27.think he has given it a big high-5 inside because that was the last

:18:28. > :18:40.chance he had. Really competitive effort. Has a lifetime best which

:18:41. > :18:52.equalled his season best here. 2.01 the next tights. -- height. From

:18:53. > :18:59.Serbia, a popular local favourites. Look at this, probably the biggest

:19:00. > :19:08.ship we have had so far. He is milking every bit of it and so he

:19:09. > :19:16.should. Good space on that, any thoughts? He is a 2.08 jumper but

:19:17. > :19:23.that doesn't really reflect what he's capable of. He's using the

:19:24. > :19:32.crowd to every advantage Dudas. He is very excitable. Right then Ashley

:19:33. > :19:44.Bryant, can you respond and be lifted by the crowd? Write them,

:19:45. > :19:57.Bryant in second place overall coming into this discipline.

:19:58. > :20:04.Mayer out in front. Second semifinal for the men 800 metres and one man

:20:05. > :20:09.who would have been a big threat for the 800 metres would be the world

:20:10. > :20:19.bronze-medallist but he is out and does not start here. Kevin Lopez,

:20:20. > :20:27.has great experience. A couple of Spaniards in the final Andujar is

:20:28. > :20:43.there as well. Farken ran well at the indoor in

:20:44. > :20:46.Germany, a big talent and everybody in the second semifinal has the

:20:47. > :21:07.chance to improve. Bube from Denmark, a lot of noise

:21:08. > :21:17.and a bit of cash for the start. As I mentioned, to Spaniards, Lopez and

:21:18. > :21:24.Kubista. Five going for three spaces. They very interesting first

:21:25. > :21:31.semifinal. Kyle Langford missing out. No worries about the paceman

:21:32. > :21:36.Lopez interested in taking it. We will see whether he maintains this,

:21:37. > :21:41.I don't think the fact someone is outward change the race too much. He

:21:42. > :21:46.normally sits at the back and make the move late but Lopez may be

:21:47. > :21:53.inspired by the last semifinal. Certainly leaving out so far and

:21:54. > :22:01.maintaining pace but Bube moving out wide and Kubista moves to block him.

:22:02. > :22:06.Farken did well before and faded and came through as one of the fastest

:22:07. > :22:28.losers. Spain going for three in the final. Five, three qualifying places

:22:29. > :22:36.in the final. Andujar moved quickly passed and smartly cut in front of

:22:37. > :22:41.his compatriot Lopez. That increase can sometimes go against you. The

:22:42. > :22:51.two Spaniards in front, looking to make it three in the final and

:22:52. > :22:57.perhaps Farken has run out. Andujar and Lopez, Lopez perhaps finishing

:22:58. > :23:07.stronger. It is Lopez, look at the effort on his face. Kubista

:23:08. > :23:13.finishing strong glee. It will be three Spaniards in the final. Bube

:23:14. > :23:18.taking the victory for Denmark. In very open event this one. That

:23:19. > :23:27.semifinal was made a fraction easier with the withdrawal but it was timed

:23:28. > :23:32.and judged well. He will be happy with that. A tall asked to come in

:23:33. > :23:39.to the final but he made the final with ease in the end. Turned into a

:23:40. > :23:42.bit of a Spanish championship and certainly that heat the easier of

:23:43. > :23:48.the two semifinals was made even easier which made it easy for two

:23:49. > :23:58.Spaniards to progress. Lopez and Andujar making half the final now.

:23:59. > :24:08.Bube deserves his place there. There we have Bube taking 1:49.42, the two

:24:09. > :24:17.Spaniards also going through. In about seven minutes time Muir will

:24:18. > :24:21.be out attempting to win her first major championship gold, she has a

:24:22. > :24:34.busy life, combining her life on the track with another chosen field. The

:24:35. > :24:42.day in the ward for one of Britain's brightest track stars. She juggles

:24:43. > :24:47.FET studies and top level athletics. Running can be quite intense

:24:48. > :24:54.impression so you have to train so hard every day and have vets to

:24:55. > :24:59.veterinary alongside it, this is what I wanted to do and I was

:25:00. > :25:04.younger. She is driving hard and has taken a second of the British

:25:05. > :25:08.record. I guess I hit 2017 and thought let's hit this thing. I knew

:25:09. > :25:11.I was in great shape than it was a matter of putting it on paper and

:25:12. > :25:20.hopefully I can come to the summer and sharpen up. How important are

:25:21. > :25:25.the records to you? I love to run as hard as I can and if I'm breaking

:25:26. > :25:30.records that is great. I think for me it will always be the medals.

:25:31. > :25:34.Records were meant to be broken the records you keep. The 23-year-old

:25:35. > :25:40.was discovered as a raw talent six years ago but despite her record

:25:41. > :25:44.bagging, tangible awards have eluded her. I just got a bronze so to get

:25:45. > :25:49.my first senior international record will be a stepping stone, it is not

:25:50. > :25:55.quite calm yet but I think I more one package now so hopefully in

:25:56. > :25:58.Belgrade can get a medal if not two. European indoor medals on the main

:25:59. > :26:05.season 's goal, that comes in August at home Championships. I'm in that

:26:06. > :26:08.area now, I should be able to perform and be up there with the

:26:09. > :26:13.medals, there is no reason why you shouldn't be on the podium.

:26:14. > :26:20.Hopefully this year will be my year. Along with a stethoscope, hopefully

:26:21. > :26:23.she will have some medals to. And we're definitely not overstating or

:26:24. > :26:29.overhyping how year and her chance here because these are the records

:26:30. > :26:35.she has taken this year. A 1500 metre was outdoor last year but this

:26:36. > :26:43.year 3,000-metre indoor, 5,000-metre indoor and British 1,000-metre

:26:44. > :26:47.indoor and of course she is the nailing every race which was built

:26:48. > :26:52.on from the breakthrough she made last year with a records. It is the

:26:53. > :26:57.breakthrough, the disappointment, she learned she is now the complete

:26:58. > :27:01.package, has great insurance, great speed, what she has to prove today

:27:02. > :27:08.is whether she has the tactical brain. It might not even matter, she

:27:09. > :27:12.can run however she wants. I think the commentary box are very

:27:13. > :27:16.confident that she can win any which Way but those records don't live,

:27:17. > :27:23.she is one talented individual and we just want to see that medal now.

:27:24. > :27:33.Paula Radcliffe in the commentary box, there is Laura's coach, Steve

:27:34. > :27:39.will this be a tactical race, will she dictate how the race is one? She

:27:40. > :27:43.will dictate it because the other athletes have to find a way to

:27:44. > :27:46.combat everything that she has, I don't think they can, what may

:27:47. > :27:52.happen is one of two others will think I will not win this but I

:27:53. > :28:04.would like some medal, for instance the German would want to make it the

:28:05. > :28:09.hard race. The local girl doesn't have the quality. If we talk about

:28:10. > :28:15.Andy Young, he did a fantastic job and he's never far from the side.

:28:16. > :28:20.She does have a busy life but he does a great job of making sure when

:28:21. > :28:24.she is training she concentrates 100% on that and she is a ferocious

:28:25. > :28:32.train as well which is why she can produce the performances.

:28:33. > :28:40.We have heat impressive runs yesterday? When you plan the weekend

:28:41. > :28:45.you have to look at the heat and you don't want to extend yourself too

:28:46. > :28:49.much. She had a 3,000-metre heats in the morning and finished as the

:28:50. > :28:53.fastest loser because she had and the other side of the track telling

:28:54. > :29:00.her every luck what position she needed to be in. When she came to

:29:01. > :29:04.the 1500 it was the case of staying comfortable, staying out of trouble,

:29:05. > :29:17.this is Terzic the local girl and Laura is so comfortable there. That

:29:18. > :29:26.is Klosterhalfen, watery codified comfortably -- all three qualified,

:29:27. > :29:31.W. -- comfortably. How difficult is it to do this double indoors over

:29:32. > :29:39.2-3 days because obviously they both have heats to navigate? If you had

:29:40. > :29:43.registered for both events and when it was when they got here and

:29:44. > :29:49.realised there were heats for a 3000, people are hoping it was a

:29:50. > :29:54.straight final so Muir was anyone who registered for both offence and

:29:55. > :29:58.is contesting both. You have to go back to 2007, the last person to

:29:59. > :30:04.attend and succeed in the double winning both gold medals, a massive

:30:05. > :30:08.task, 45 laps of the trek across the weekend, a lot of work which is so

:30:09. > :30:12.prepared for it. The athletes are just below is here where we are in

:30:13. > :30:16.the presentation box and they will be getting ready for the razzmatazz,

:30:17. > :30:21.their introduction where the music and the light show starts and

:30:22. > :30:25.introduced them one by one. She will have done all of warming up, they

:30:26. > :30:30.are striding back getting ready to come out and will then be lining up

:30:31. > :30:35.a humanist after their introduced. A mixed reaction in the presentation

:30:36. > :30:41.box whether or not these guys would like to be a part of the

:30:42. > :30:44.introduction, which you fancy it? They are both lying because we know

:30:45. > :30:48.both of them would love to have this razzmatazz and the lights and

:30:49. > :30:55.everything. They still like it now unlike us middle-distance runners.

:30:56. > :31:01.Paula would have hated having to interrupt her warm up by having to

:31:02. > :31:08.pose, am I right? You are right. It adds to it. We had it in Poland last

:31:09. > :31:13.year. We have the kind of what was it, that's blacked out stage behind

:31:14. > :31:18.them and it worked well I thought. If it draws the attention to the

:31:19. > :31:20.athlete then, what I don't like is having to work a dancer. I couldn't

:31:21. > :31:25.do that. That's the bit that Colin would have

:31:26. > :31:40.really There seems to be a delay at the

:31:41. > :31:49.moment. We have about an hour and a half on-air. After Laura and Sarah

:31:50. > :31:57.McDonald go in the 1500 metre final, Nielsen, the 1500 metre final, going

:31:58. > :32:03.in her first major final. Hejnova, normally dominant over the hurdles,

:32:04. > :32:07.will be the strong athlete there. At 7:15pm Tom Lancashire goes in the

:32:08. > :32:14.men's 17 Chamakh 1500 metre final and then the men's 400 and men's 60

:32:15. > :32:17.final at 7:55pm. Quickly over to Steve Backley because we have some

:32:18. > :32:23.news that might not be great from the British perspective. Ashley

:32:24. > :32:28.Bryant, the British team captain, very much in contention in the

:32:29. > :32:33.heptathlon but he has retired. The cross of his arms communicating with

:32:34. > :32:38.the officials letting them know he doesn't want to take his attempt at

:32:39. > :32:41.2.01. We don't know the reason. But I can only suspect there is

:32:42. > :32:49.something of a physical issue stopping him having a go for the

:32:50. > :33:03.third time. Across the stadium we have bulk of its -- the Polish. He

:33:04. > :33:14.was remarkable as a junior, twice champion of the world. Not many

:33:15. > :33:17.people have done that. Bukowiecki has unleashed a monster in the

:33:18. > :33:26.second round, foul in the first round. He got the timing on that

:33:27. > :33:34.bang on. Well beyond 21 metres. It is 21.97, it's a world lead for

:33:35. > :33:56.Konrad Bukowiecki of Poland. Believed was with David Storl of De

:33:57. > :34:06.Mike Dunn told throw at 21.15. -- with David Storl of that throw at

:34:07. > :34:14.21.15. This was that throw. A really good tussle at the halfway stage

:34:15. > :34:18.between Storl, the three times European champion, against the

:34:19. > :34:25.youngster, Konrad Bukowiecki, 19 Young's of age. He -- years of age.

:34:26. > :34:30.He is in second place now. Down at the far end of the stadium

:34:31. > :34:35.you can see the flashing lights and the women about to be introduced for

:34:36. > :34:39.this 1500 metre final, two British athletes. But the one who everybody

:34:40. > :34:45.is watching, Sarah McDonald and Laura Muir. Laura doesn't even pose.

:34:46. > :34:50.Maybe they've all been told to jog out because this is all

:34:51. > :34:55.middle-distance runners want to do, get out and shake out the legs as

:34:56. > :35:01.they come out into the arena. The red-hot favourite, Laura Muir, Sarah

:35:02. > :35:06.McDonald also going. A word about Sarah, great to see her getting

:35:07. > :35:13.through to the final as well as Laura. Two British women in this.

:35:14. > :35:19.You have to go all the way back to another Scot, Mary Stuart, in 1977,

:35:20. > :35:23.the last time Britain won the 1500 metres indoors, which is unusual

:35:24. > :35:28.because we have so many great 1500 metre runners. The last time we won

:35:29. > :35:38.the gold-medal at the European Indoor Championships. There's Sarah,

:35:39. > :35:42.now a member of Birchfield Harriers. Sarah is a former ice skater and

:35:43. > :35:46.only started running in sixth form a few years ago and I bet she never

:35:47. > :35:48.thought she would be heading towards these European Indoor Championships

:35:49. > :36:01.representing Great Britain. She joins Laura Muir with Ben Ali --

:36:02. > :36:08.Ennaoui. Klosterhalfen, this great talent from Germany. Mageean from

:36:09. > :36:14.Ireland, another youngster, developing well about the same age

:36:15. > :36:24.as your. There will be a massive cheer for the Serbian. There is

:36:25. > :36:30.Sarah. Her usual prerace standing on the start line bouncing up-and-down

:36:31. > :36:34.and looking ready to go. She ran her first mile race, she used to do

:36:35. > :36:46.shorter distances, back in 2011, so not that long ago, 5.13. I'm sure

:36:47. > :36:50.she will have a few nerves here. All of these women, as I said earlier,

:36:51. > :36:54.will look towards Laura Muir and thinking what do we do? There is not

:36:55. > :37:00.much they can do to beat Laura but there is a medal for somebody here,

:37:01. > :37:04.obviously silver and a bronze. I would suggest Turn 6, if she were to

:37:05. > :37:05.come through and win a medal it would be a massive performance for

:37:06. > :37:23.her. -- Tosic dumb Terzic. Klosterhalfen has been in

:37:24. > :37:26.great form. I enjoy watching her run. She looks like she has no

:37:27. > :37:33.strength but she is such a strong runner, cross-country champion. All

:37:34. > :37:36.on her own in the German championships, no pacemakers, that

:37:37. > :37:41.might be a sign she may do something like that today. She is quick at 800

:37:42. > :37:48.as well. Gega, from Albanian, a new personal best. Good times indoors.

:37:49. > :37:51.Sarah McDonald thought she had the qualifying time from her race in

:37:52. > :37:56.Cardiff because she won the trials and had to go to Ireland and do it

:37:57. > :38:00.again because the time hadn't been ratified in Cardiff, so a little bit

:38:01. > :38:03.of stress being selected and then she found a little extra in the

:38:04. > :38:13.heats and got herself into the final with a gutsy performance. Perisic of

:38:14. > :38:28.Belarus -- Barysevich. And again the diminutive figure of

:38:29. > :38:40.Ben -- Ennaoui. She doesn't have the same weaponry as Laura Muir. Laura

:38:41. > :38:45.Muir has never won a medal at any Championships so far in her career.

:38:46. > :38:49.This is her chance. This is her day, surely.

:38:50. > :38:57.The 1500 metre final indoors, seven and a half laps of the track. Laura

:38:58. > :39:02.Muir immediately goes to the back of the field because she knows she can

:39:03. > :39:07.just watch and wait and Terzic is there with her as well. We will wait

:39:08. > :39:14.and see how this develops. I will be interested to see if anyone wants to

:39:15. > :39:17.take it on, Bahta has moved up to 1500 metres, happier with her pace,

:39:18. > :39:23.not that quick. Klosterhalfen looks interested down the back straight

:39:24. > :39:27.sitting in behind. Laura Muir realises if you want to have a race,

:39:28. > :39:31.thank you very much, get nicely spread out, don't have to worry

:39:32. > :39:35.about tripping up and keeping out of trouble. You said in your tips, keep

:39:36. > :39:38.out of trouble. That's the biggest thing in doors, stay out of trouble

:39:39. > :39:43.and stamp your authority on the race and that is what Laura Muir is doing

:39:44. > :39:47.now as she comes back around. Maybe she is going to make a big move, it

:39:48. > :39:51.is early to do that but she is turning this into a strong and

:39:52. > :39:56.honest race and almost daring the other athletes to go with it.

:39:57. > :40:01.Ennaoui did this with Dibaba earlier this year and hung onto her

:40:02. > :40:06.coat-tails for about 1200 metres and wasn't able to stay with her any

:40:07. > :40:10.longer and paid the price for having gone early. Maybe she will be more

:40:11. > :40:15.wary if Laura really goes hard but maybe that was a bit of a test. I

:40:16. > :40:18.think Laura will be comfortable running quickly, she did put

:40:19. > :40:22.acceleration in but she has settled down, she is at the front, in

:40:23. > :40:26.control, and will keep the pace building, taking it into the

:40:27. > :40:30.territory where I know better than everybody is, let's test how good a

:40:31. > :40:35.1500 metre runner you are and see how fast you can go, when you have

:40:36. > :40:39.run 1000 metres and 5000 indoors as fast as she has, you have the

:40:40. > :40:43.strength and endurance and speed and she is just getting rid of a few,

:40:44. > :40:47.the others will hang on as long as they can. For me this is a bit of a

:40:48. > :40:51.display from Laura Muir. She is going to take them with her, they

:40:52. > :40:55.are well stretched out behind, Sarah McDonald is towards the back of the

:40:56. > :40:59.field, and I am sure she is going to get quicker and quicker. She is

:41:00. > :41:03.going to make them run hard. This is what Laura does best, she does it

:41:04. > :41:08.time and time again in training and also in races, she's not afraid to

:41:09. > :41:13.go out run as hard as she can and push and push. In training sessions

:41:14. > :41:16.she will go and have favourite sessions she does before major

:41:17. > :41:20.championships and just wants to beat them by a little bit every time as

:41:21. > :41:23.her measure and she is getting stronger and stronger all the time

:41:24. > :41:28.and the other women in this race behind her know that as well. This

:41:29. > :41:32.is a real judgment game for them to be able to just guess right how hard

:41:33. > :41:38.they can go, how much they can try to stay with Laura and not sacrifice

:41:39. > :41:41.the chance of a medal later on. Anyone who thought they might pick

:41:42. > :41:48.up an easy medal has gone out of the window because the three best

:41:49. > :41:51.runners are at the front, Laura Muir, Klosterhalfen and Ennaoui, and

:41:52. > :41:54.she is still building the pressure with 400 to go and on any other date

:41:55. > :41:58.you would not think Klosterhalfen could give Laura Muir anything to

:41:59. > :42:04.think about all worry about in the last 300 metres but she's there.

:42:05. > :42:09.We've lost Ennaoui, so three are down to two, the talented German

:42:10. > :42:12.moving up onto Laura Muir's shoulder and she responds. Yes, she does, she

:42:13. > :42:16.still has some left but Klosterhalfen would be the one the

:42:17. > :42:24.most in the mould of Laura Muir, she has the strength and speed but she

:42:25. > :42:27.is not good enough to hang onto this surge that Laura is putting in now.

:42:28. > :42:31.This is what we came to see. She is a class above everybody, for me.

:42:32. > :42:36.This is a display of distance running, a display of 1500 metre

:42:37. > :42:42.running at its very best. Laura Muir has waited for this moment for a few

:42:43. > :42:46.years now. The tears that we saw at Stockholm at the world indoor

:42:47. > :42:52.Championships will be replaced by cheers as Laura Muir stretches away

:42:53. > :43:00.and comes to win the gold medal for Great Britain. European Indoor

:43:01. > :43:04.champion and a new championship record of 4:02.4 and that will

:43:05. > :43:09.eclipse the time by a tenth the second. That doesn't matter. It is

:43:10. > :43:15.also a new British record, I am just having pointed out to as well. If

:43:16. > :43:20.she needed any more accolades she is piling them up in one race. What a

:43:21. > :43:23.finish that was. Hats off to Klosterhalfen, a really good attempt

:43:24. > :43:27.to stay with her but you cannot hang on to somebody as good as this,

:43:28. > :43:34.somebody at the top of their game and as strong as Laura Muir is.

:43:35. > :43:39.Klosterhalfen. Being applauded. A new record for Klosterhalfen in

:43:40. > :43:42.second. She doesn't make it easy on herself. There is Sarah McDonald

:43:43. > :43:47.receiving congratulations from Laura. She could have come here, I

:43:48. > :43:51.want to win two gold medals, could have done it easy, 3000 final

:43:52. > :43:56.tomorrow, but no, I'm in the shape of my life and I will show you how

:43:57. > :43:59.good I am. She certainly did that. They will have sat down and thought

:44:00. > :44:03.how will the other girls think you will run the race? They will think

:44:04. > :44:07.you will run easy and save energy for the 3000 metres tomorrow but she

:44:08. > :44:11.said no, I'm not going to do that, I'm going to go and take the British

:44:12. > :44:16.record, Commonwealth record and championship record and make them

:44:17. > :44:20.work really hard for it. Klosterhalfen ran a perfectly judged

:44:21. > :44:23.race and let Ennaoui go with Laura Muir early on and moved through

:44:24. > :44:31.later on and really deserves that personal best. Look how much it

:44:32. > :44:35.means to hurt there. Well, Andy Young is off to our right trying to

:44:36. > :44:41.shout down to Laura. The two of them have done a brilliant job. She needs

:44:42. > :44:46.a union Jack. I don't know if Andy has got one. No, he hasn't. He might

:44:47. > :44:51.have a saltire handy. Give me a flag! This is her moment, she hasn't

:44:52. > :44:57.won a medal at a major championships and saying, can I do a lap of

:44:58. > :45:03.honour? There is the 400 final coming up. Poor Laura. Athletes

:45:04. > :45:06.dream of this moment, I've won a gold medal, I'd like a flag and to

:45:07. > :45:11.do my lap of honour but she is not being allowed to do it. Spoil sport.

:45:12. > :45:15.It's not Laura's fault they are behind schedule. She should be

:45:16. > :45:20.allowed. If the Serbian had won a medal you bet there would have been

:45:21. > :45:25.a lap of honour. I'm not being against the locals, go on, Laura, go

:45:26. > :45:28.for it, girl, British fans down the back straight, there are loads of

:45:29. > :45:33.British fans and I can seasonably coming down to the track-side to

:45:34. > :45:38.give her a flag, here you go. There was a Scottish flag there but she is

:45:39. > :45:42.representing all of us as well as Scotland, representing Great Britain

:45:43. > :45:43.and Northern Ireland. Well done, Laura Muir. These are moments that

:45:44. > :45:54.she will savour. That's slow motion of coming down

:45:55. > :45:59.the home straight, I don't think she has realise she's broken the British

:46:00. > :46:04.record as well in her quest to destroy the field. She did that and

:46:05. > :46:08.she will realise a bit later what she has done in terms of the actual

:46:09. > :46:15.performance in terms of time. Look at that smile. She might not have

:46:16. > :46:21.done but I guarantee Andy knows and that'll be one more target ticked

:46:22. > :46:24.off on their plan they are working towards London and beyond. She is

:46:25. > :46:27.really on form and a target for all of that and I'm glad she got the

:46:28. > :46:37.chance to do that lap of honour because she deserved that. She will

:46:38. > :46:44.make her way up to see fill in a moment, the 400 metre finals, I'm

:46:45. > :46:48.not sure if we will speak to her but, she and Andy deserve huge

:46:49. > :46:55.congratulations. Here she comes. Over to you Phil. Congratulations

:46:56. > :47:00.Laura on a wonderful performance, any British record as well as a gold

:47:01. > :47:08.medal, can you sum it up? I'm just happy. It feels like a long time

:47:09. > :47:12.coming to win a medal and I'm so happy. You deserve to be. You had a

:47:13. > :47:17.stellar season indoors, breaking records and to take the race out

:47:18. > :47:21.like that, was that the plan? Yes I knew a couple of the Gaza have a

:47:22. > :47:26.sprint finish so I thought I would play to my strength and I just took

:47:27. > :47:31.it out and held on. To take the British record was that plan? Nope I

:47:32. > :47:38.just wanted to run a quick race but I never envisaged to do that. This

:47:39. > :47:42.is brilliant. You look back on the past and some of the events you have

:47:43. > :47:47.been in, you've had a lot of bad luck, you've tripped and fallen and

:47:48. > :47:52.things have not gone your way so this has been a while coming, not a

:47:53. > :47:57.long time but it must mean so much having gone through the trials and

:47:58. > :48:02.tribulations? Definitely. I'm still only 23 so I have a few more years

:48:03. > :48:06.yet. In the last couple of years medals have slipped away and it

:48:07. > :48:10.hasn't been my fault but it happened, I'm so relieved to get a

:48:11. > :48:21.medal on the table. 3000 metres tomorrow, we wish you well on that.

:48:22. > :48:27.Thank you to everybody back at home. Huge congratulations to Laura Muir

:48:28. > :48:36.that these races come thick and fast and a new face, the new kid on the

:48:37. > :48:41.block 's. The Nielsen twins. The final of the 400 metres and this is

:48:42. > :48:45.Laviai Neilsen. She probably will need to be running close to her PB

:48:46. > :48:50.if she will be breaking into the medals today. An exciting race,

:48:51. > :48:58.nail-biting and she will take inspiration from Laura Muir.

:48:59. > :49:13.Certainly a chance for Neilsen to get a medal. Sprunger the favourite

:49:14. > :49:17.and Guei from France. But Neilsen in lane three and she is fourth fastest

:49:18. > :49:26.of the qualifiers, can she lived herself for the final? The

:49:27. > :49:32.atmosphere here is lively to say the least, that was wonderful that lap

:49:33. > :49:38.of honour for Laura Muir. Andy Young demanded that she do it, no stopping

:49:39. > :49:42.her but Neilsen doesn't earn 21 until later this month and here she

:49:43. > :49:47.is getting ready for European indoor final. Former European junior

:49:48. > :49:51.champion and as we saw earlier, her twin sister who should have been

:49:52. > :50:01.running here is watching and hoping instead for success. We heard that

:50:02. > :50:11.she will go out hard, give everything and die on the line

:50:12. > :50:30.having given her all. Certainly the favourite,. Guei had an eventful

:50:31. > :50:40.journey to the final. Neilsen certainly belongs in this company.

:50:41. > :50:47.Neilsen in three, Swiety the Polish champion, to pulse on the inside

:50:48. > :50:56.tough lanes. Very strong Polish group in the women's 400, this'll be

:50:57. > :50:59.a factor in the relay. Right on the outside sprung, dominated her first

:51:00. > :51:28.round heat. -- Sprunger. I think the French competitor likes

:51:29. > :51:32.running down opponents in the indoors. Neilsen in lane three,

:51:33. > :51:35.former European junior champion trying and hoping and giving

:51:36. > :51:50.everything for a medal at the European indoors. Final of the

:51:51. > :51:57.women's 400 metres. We know tactics and we know she goes out strong and

:51:58. > :52:03.gets to the break in contention, the car faster the Swiss athlete has

:52:04. > :52:11.gone out in lane six. Guei just inside track keep face to Lee pace.

:52:12. > :52:15.-- pace. Here comes the break and the tall figure of the Swiss athlete

:52:16. > :52:20.in France by couple of paces and Guei trying to keep pace. For

:52:21. > :52:34.separating themselves on the heard at the moment, Guei the figure tall,

:52:35. > :52:43.Guei to Sprunger and Hejnova is injured, she is tying up and gone

:52:44. > :52:50.and Neilsen trying to hold on. Hejnova and Neilsen just run out of

:52:51. > :52:55.the medals. So close, cannot be faulted for her efforts giving

:52:56. > :53:01.everything. Just run out of the medals. Sprunger you feel for her.

:53:02. > :53:08.That was more than tying up, something had given way but instead

:53:09. > :53:15.it was Guei coming through to take the victory ahead of Hejnova. That

:53:16. > :53:20.is the anguish of a fourth-place finish in major championships.

:53:21. > :53:25.She'll be disappointed because I think she thought, there were a few

:53:26. > :53:29.things, I don't think Springer is injured, she just went way too fast

:53:30. > :53:33.and completely ran out of legs and when the lactic acid fills those

:53:34. > :53:37.legs there is nothing you can do. I've seen a few examples and that

:53:38. > :53:45.was a good one, it's the risk you take. We saw in the semifinals, if

:53:46. > :53:49.you go hard. This is what she did. I thought Neilsen ran a sensible first

:53:50. > :53:54.lap and realised how fast they were going and thought OK I will settle

:53:55. > :53:59.in but then she got into a scrap with Hejnova. She had to wait to go

:54:00. > :54:07.past by which time Hejnova is away and she thinks I'm going from medal

:54:08. > :54:15.now and all of a sudden on the outside, nothing you can do when

:54:16. > :54:23.someone comes through with that momentum. For me she has conducted

:54:24. > :54:27.herself while and has learnt a lot to, fourth in the European

:54:28. > :54:30.Championships. She ready made one attempt on the back straight, she

:54:31. > :54:34.had to try to get into the top three but is running wide, all the way

:54:35. > :54:42.around the band and Mrs everybody is tired here, all of a sudden the poll

:54:43. > :54:46.who sat off things, this is the reward you can get. I'm not going to

:54:47. > :54:50.say it is a cowardly way to run but sometimes it is smart because you

:54:51. > :54:55.hope others tie up and you are there to pick up the pieces. The good

:54:56. > :55:01.thing about Neilsen is that she had a go. She threw herself into it but

:55:02. > :55:06.I think she will think she had a medal there. I'm looking at the

:55:07. > :55:11.times. 52.79, she'll probably think she could have got a medal there. We

:55:12. > :55:15.heard from her sister that she would give everything. That is a great

:55:16. > :55:25.result for Hejnova who was disqualified yesterday. -- Guei. A

:55:26. > :55:35.personal best for Hejnova, she does lift herself for these races. Just

:55:36. > :55:37.run out in fourth place that there will be medals to come in her career

:55:38. > :55:45.I'm sure of that. Andrew in commentary saying there

:55:46. > :55:51.will be medals to come for sure in your career, understand be right now

:55:52. > :55:59.or you can feel is the emotion, the one slipped away. Fourth place is

:56:00. > :56:05.agonising. Just the last there. It's always the last bit. I thought I had

:56:06. > :56:11.it, I tried, I really did. Tactically what was the plan? To

:56:12. > :56:15.attack it. I know my strengths and that is my speed and it was

:56:16. > :56:20.difficult from lane three, I wanted to go hard like I have this indoor

:56:21. > :56:25.season and try to sit in and kick towards the end but I guess they

:56:26. > :56:29.were stronger than me in that bit. Once you have distance from the

:56:30. > :56:34.event he will look back and see what you have managed to achieve? I think

:56:35. > :56:41.I will look back, at the moment forth this just painful. You have a

:56:42. > :56:48.chance of redemption tomorrow in the relay of course maybe a medal birth?

:56:49. > :56:53.Hopefully yes. Obviously my sister is not here but we have a fairly

:56:54. > :56:57.strong team, we already close and we've spoken about and the

:56:58. > :57:02.possibility of a medal so I'm going to go back, cool down and get ready

:57:03. > :57:06.for tomorrow. This is just the start for you, we shouldn't forget that

:57:07. > :57:11.either. Hopefully yes. I was using the season to gain confidence with

:57:12. > :57:15.my racing on the start line with such amazing athlete, I just have to

:57:16. > :57:21.go back and talk it over with my coach. I want to take this moment to

:57:22. > :57:28.thank my coach Frank US bin incredible and everyone athletics.

:57:29. > :57:33.Thank you to everyone who is involved in my journey. We know it

:57:34. > :57:43.is just the start, thank you for talking to us. Neilsen desperately

:57:44. > :57:47.disappointed there. Fourth placed the cruellest position, especially

:57:48. > :57:54.for a young athlete who has been breaking her PB's and setting her

:57:55. > :57:57.career in a positive frame. I for one was pleased to hear her say she

:57:58. > :58:02.was disappointed not say it's great to be here and have the experience

:58:03. > :58:06.because she is a competitor. You can see the way she took that on and

:58:07. > :58:14.that bodes well. It does. It's such a raw emotion. She knew it was the

:58:15. > :58:19.taking but you can't fault her. We can't fault what she did. Tactically

:58:20. > :58:23.she was right in the mix, she knew what she had to do and prove she

:58:24. > :58:26.belongs in this arena and when she goes home and analyses the race, she

:58:27. > :58:37.will realise that actually I'm there. I think for me what she has

:58:38. > :58:40.proven is a real desire to be on the top. You cannot be someone who has

:58:41. > :58:45.the desire when they are at such a young stage in their career, when

:58:46. > :58:48.they are developing she will look at it will be bitterly disappointed and

:58:49. > :58:53.she looked at the ladies who were climbing roster thinking next time

:58:54. > :58:57.I'm going to be up there so she will always work harder, a little bit

:58:58. > :59:01.more in every single training session. She ready identified where

:59:02. > :59:05.she was weak. Right at the end and at the back of the race with that in

:59:06. > :59:10.mind you can see now she is thinking she needs more insurance. Let's take

:59:11. > :59:15.it from 200. Perhaps more than any other the 400 is unusual for

:59:16. > :59:19.athletes to breaking lane and to jostle with one another and this is

:59:20. > :59:22.where it came unstuck. You have to be strong and confident and she did

:59:23. > :59:29.try to attack and go with Hejnova but I think the decision, she could

:59:30. > :59:36.have gone inside that she had committed herself so she just had

:59:37. > :59:41.to... And it worked for some see you can't say it was the wrong tactic?

:59:42. > :59:45.And because you move at speed, when you commit to a line you have to

:59:46. > :59:52.stick with it because it takes so much out of you. You don't want to

:59:53. > :59:55.go from side to side, you want to hold on and focus and take your line

:59:56. > :00:01.and say that is the path I am taking. When I say most unusual, the

:00:02. > :00:05.400 is run outside and you normally stay in your line and no other event

:00:06. > :00:10.it do you experience that difference because you break the lane in the

:00:11. > :00:15.800 and 1500, 60 guys run straight so it's different to employ these

:00:16. > :00:19.tactics. And again it is done at speed. In other events here they

:00:20. > :00:23.don't go as fast and quick as this ladies will be going. Again that is

:00:24. > :00:31.what adds the interest into this event and some people thrive on it

:00:32. > :00:36.and they love it. Even though they are slightly fatigued. You can see

:00:37. > :00:38.she is devastated. She will look at what has happened and she will be

:00:39. > :00:46.thinking on for the company. Goulet, the champion from France,

:00:47. > :01:03.was disqualified yesterday after this incident and was then

:01:04. > :01:11.reinstated later. -- Florian Gaul a. Floria Guei. She was reinstated and

:01:12. > :01:15.those are the rules. They will be hard for a Rosolova to see that, she

:01:16. > :01:20.is in here with a neck brace having seriously injured herself and that

:01:21. > :01:24.will be tough to take on board. It is tough because she will look and

:01:25. > :01:27.think I should be in that final and be really competitive and in the end

:01:28. > :01:30.she has finished with that neck brace. It will be frustrating but

:01:31. > :01:36.they all have the outdoor season to look forward to. Always putting a

:01:37. > :01:40.nice positive spin on it at the end, Colin. The positive eulogies keep on

:01:41. > :01:44.flowing and the words for Laura Muir because we didn't have time to take

:01:45. > :01:47.stock because it all came so quickly with the 400. Her running is a joy

:01:48. > :01:54.to watch every time, immaturity the way she takes on these races and the

:01:55. > :02:01.confidence, speed, injury and hard work she has put in. She is such a

:02:02. > :02:08.different athlete to the one I saw three years ago. The Commonwealths,

:02:09. > :02:13.the world indoors, she has had disappointment, but she has fought,

:02:14. > :02:18.she has worked hard. Paula talked about how much she embraces her

:02:19. > :02:22.training, she likes her training, she works hard and has covered every

:02:23. > :02:28.base and when you watch her, you get the sense, is this another Mo Farah?

:02:29. > :02:33.That feeling of superiority and invincibility. She is breaking

:02:34. > :02:37.records, Kelly Holmes's record has gone today again, if she was the

:02:38. > :02:41.most dominant female runner we have had, going back to her era, and she

:02:42. > :02:50.is breaking Kelly's records we have to start thinking of her. And the

:02:51. > :02:53.record she had was the Olympic champion back in 1984 so you can see

:02:54. > :02:59.the quality of athletes she is running better than already. I

:03:00. > :03:06.turned around to Denise and I circled her age, saying she is only

:03:07. > :03:11.23. She is a youngster, absolutely a youngster. With that in mind she is

:03:12. > :03:16.so going to develop. What I love to see is she is in this real purple

:03:17. > :03:20.patch but this purple patch is just going to grow longer and longer. If

:03:21. > :03:24.she stays fit and strong at 23 years old she could have seven years

:03:25. > :03:32.dominating the sport. I think she can truly do that. You have seen how

:03:33. > :03:38.she demonstrates it. She said that working as a vet and still training

:03:39. > :03:44.is what keeps her fresh. It keeps her mind somewhere else. I think the

:03:45. > :03:49.manner in which she is winning... Luckily there are quite a lot of

:03:50. > :03:51.vets in the world, there aren't many globally accomplished

:03:52. > :03:56.middle-distance runners like her for the pound. We will see how she keeps

:03:57. > :04:00.that balance. It is the men's 1500 metre final and Tom Lancashire is

:04:01. > :04:06.going for Great Britain coached by none other than Steve Cram. Over to

:04:07. > :04:10.you, nervous coach Steve. COMMENTATOR: Yes, there is Tom.

:04:11. > :04:15.Everybody will be a bit nervous. Tom is delighted to be here, delighted

:04:16. > :04:22.to be back in the British vest at a championships and contending. He is

:04:23. > :04:27.the only British Championships in the 1500 metres, Chris O'Hare won a

:04:28. > :04:31.medal last time around and Tom knows he's got a tough race here,

:04:32. > :04:37.obviously. It's a very open race, there are three or four big dangers

:04:38. > :04:42.in here, one too familiar names, Lewandowski, Berglund, Sweden have a

:04:43. > :04:46.really young talent on their hands, just 20 years of age, improving very

:04:47. > :04:52.quickly. He may well be the favourite, he is the quickest this

:04:53. > :05:01.year in the field. Sasinek looked good in the field. Lewandowski. We

:05:02. > :05:05.have 11 in the field. Travers overnight advanced to the final

:05:06. > :05:08.because they thought they heard a gun, they did hear a gun, stopped

:05:09. > :05:12.running in the heat, and a bit contentious they were put into the

:05:13. > :05:15.final because it was their own fault, nobody stopped in the heat,

:05:16. > :05:19.they stopped running, and they are fortunate to have been advanced into

:05:20. > :05:25.the final. It means we have 11 which is too many for me in the European

:05:26. > :05:27.Indoor final so let's hope it is a safe travel round for everybody and

:05:28. > :05:33.there is not too much pushing and shoving. Alcala and travellers are

:05:34. > :05:38.very lucky, plus Alcala didn't race hard, he jogged round the last

:05:39. > :05:43.couple of laps -- Travers. He got easy passage through to the final,

:05:44. > :05:49.if you like. Tom is there. He had a great start to his career, 3.33

:05:50. > :05:54.runner in 2010. He has had a few years of injury problems and not

:05:55. > :05:58.running as he would like to run. But he is here in contention in this

:05:59. > :06:05.1500 metre final. Others to look out for, Selmouni of France. What's

:06:06. > :06:09.interesting is a lot of these guys have beating each other this year.

:06:10. > :06:15.There is no Laura Muir, let's put it that way. I guess, Paula, everybody

:06:16. > :06:19.standing on the start line, eight or nine guys will think they can win a

:06:20. > :06:23.medal. I think there are, and Shelley take bets now on whether

:06:24. > :06:28.Laura Muir went halfway quicker than these goes will go through halfway?

:06:29. > :06:32.You are right, that is the thing in the finals, the nervousness. Tom

:06:33. > :06:37.cleared out in the heats. They will be three or four who don't mind it

:06:38. > :06:41.slow, Lewandowski, 800-metre specialist, will be delighted if

:06:42. > :06:46.it's slow, probably even Berglund as well, the youngster from Sweden

:06:47. > :06:54.moving up from 800 to 1500 metres, with great effect. Lewandowski,

:06:55. > :06:57.European champion at 800 metres in the past. Selmouni, the very strong

:06:58. > :07:04.Frenchman. He beat Tom Lancashire earlier in the season. Don't forget

:07:05. > :07:16.Lewandowski was sixth in the final last year at 800. Benitz, good at

:07:17. > :07:21.1500 metres. This is the big danger for me, Berglund, a real talent, 20

:07:22. > :07:26.years of age, and he's only going to get better. Tom is the oldest in the

:07:27. > :07:34.field. He will mind me telling you that. 31, Tom, but looking forward

:07:35. > :07:39.to a good two or three years ahead in these European Indoor

:07:40. > :07:41.Championships. A real opportunity, Sasinek looked good in qualifying,

:07:42. > :07:47.the youngster from the Czech Republic. A few young men early in

:07:48. > :07:52.their careers contesting for medals, Tom Lancashire going for Great

:07:53. > :07:56.Britain. They have used two starting lines have. We have so many in

:07:57. > :08:00.there. Benitz and Tom Lancashire having a coming together but we have

:08:01. > :08:04.safely got through at least the first 100 metres and Alcala came

:08:05. > :08:08.through the outside and they are settling down, the other Spaniard on

:08:09. > :08:14.the outside and Tom Lancashire towards the back. Berglund is at the

:08:15. > :08:19.front. I didn't expect to see him there. It is not fast but at least

:08:20. > :08:23.they are not jogging. He has gone to the front. Maybe he thought I will

:08:24. > :08:28.get myself out of trouble. It is a big danger putting 11 guys on an

:08:29. > :08:31.indoor 1500 metre race like this, especially when the tendency in

:08:32. > :08:36.championship races is for it to go out so steady and slowly that it is

:08:37. > :08:41.already dangerous with so many guys on the track. Tom Lancashire

:08:42. > :08:45.tracking Travers in front of him and looking to stay out of trouble at

:08:46. > :08:50.this point. I think we will see lots of guys moving out into lane two or

:08:51. > :08:54.three to give themselves a chance to make their moves and I don't think

:08:55. > :09:00.it will be slow for too long. 64 is slow for the men. Berglund, he has

:09:01. > :09:05.probably got himself out there because when there is a move I want

:09:06. > :09:10.to be able to cover it. Al Kellock there as well, so nobody moving on,

:09:11. > :09:15.Tom Lancashire saying enough is enough, let's get this moving. --

:09:16. > :09:20.Alcala. One to jostling on the inside, Sasinek will Beer danger.

:09:21. > :09:28.Aboubakar Lewandowski, towards the back, happy to there. -- will be a

:09:29. > :09:32.danger. -- at the back, Lewandowski. Nobody has had the nerve to make the

:09:33. > :09:35.break and go hard. Selmouni looked like he was trying to get himself

:09:36. > :09:41.into a position to do that but he is boxed in and cannot get out. 800

:09:42. > :09:50.metres to go and Lewandowski moves up on the outside. The tall figure

:09:51. > :09:55.from Sweden. Tom Lancashire is Oxted in. He will want to think about

:09:56. > :10:02.getting out of this hole. Alcala. Bouih. Anyone can win the race from

:10:03. > :10:06.here. Tom must start thinking about getting moving because Berglund is

:10:07. > :10:11.controlling it at the front. Tom Lancashire did in the heat, he was

:10:12. > :10:15.able to take it from 500 out and wind it up and run well from that.

:10:16. > :10:19.Maybe he's planning to do something similar. This coach is not going to

:10:20. > :10:24.tell us anything. I think Tom would like to, he is close to the front,

:10:25. > :10:29.as he is approaching 400 metres to go but there is a lot of traffic,

:10:30. > :10:33.Lewandowski on the inside, a push from Sasinek, Lancashire losing

:10:34. > :10:37.ground, Berglund slowly winding up from the front, and Alcala on his

:10:38. > :10:41.shoulder, the man fortunate to be there but Tom Lancashire with 400 to

:10:42. > :10:45.go has a real opportunity. Berglund leaving them and there is pushing

:10:46. > :10:47.and shoving behind and they are all trying to stay with Berglund, Tom

:10:48. > :11:02.Lancashire in second place at the moment, Lewandowski is

:11:03. > :11:04.a danger, Sasinek, Benitz both dangers, Berglund looking round.

:11:05. > :11:07.Berglund is taking the race to them and stretching them. There were a

:11:08. > :11:09.few slow to respond like Lewandowski, now moving around. Tom

:11:10. > :11:12.Lancashire responded. Tom Lancashire looking over his shoulder, there is

:11:13. > :11:16.still danger, he has to fight hard if he wants a medal. Five in

:11:17. > :11:21.contention, Sasinek of the Czech Republic moves up a. Lewandowski

:11:22. > :11:25.goes past Berglund. There is a real scrap on now, sesame in third place,

:11:26. > :11:30.Tom Lancashire in fourth, Berglund looks a bit spent but it is

:11:31. > :11:34.Lewandowski coming away to take the gold medal for Poland. Berglund will

:11:35. > :11:40.take the silver and Sasinek is third. Tom Lancashire ends up in

:11:41. > :11:44.fifth place, 3:44.84, the winning time, and Berglund had a go, you

:11:45. > :11:49.cannot knock him for that, he's a real talent and Tom will be

:11:50. > :11:53.disappointed. It was a messy race really. Lewandowski does what he

:11:54. > :11:57.does best. He sits and waits and when the pace comes on it comes into

:11:58. > :12:01.his hands. He is an 800-metre specialist and when the race is so

:12:02. > :12:06.slow he's always going to be that sort of danger. Berglund had ago

:12:07. > :12:11.from the front, wound it up, got it moving, but really couldn't put

:12:12. > :12:15.enough pace in two tired out Lewandowski. Tom gave it his best

:12:16. > :12:18.shot and Sasinek is a talent as well. But on the day he couldn't

:12:19. > :12:24.quite have the legs to get there with them. So he will be

:12:25. > :12:28.disappointed, I know he will. He really thought he had a chance of a

:12:29. > :12:33.medal, which he did. Plenty had a chance of a medal but Lewandowski

:12:34. > :12:36.and Berglund were always the two favourites. Immediately the race

:12:37. > :12:39.started as slowly as it did and played into the hands of

:12:40. > :12:44.Lewandowski. It's a few years since he moved up to 1500 metres but he

:12:45. > :12:48.has always had strength there and retained the speed to be able to go

:12:49. > :12:51.with that and once he moved past Berglund, Berglund was looking

:12:52. > :12:53.around because he knew there was no chance of staying with Lewandowski

:12:54. > :12:58.and the danger was coming from behind with Sasinek who ran really

:12:59. > :13:03.well. Berglund did everything he could and ran a smart race to come

:13:04. > :13:07.out of it with a silver medal. Once again, I don't think he was going to

:13:08. > :13:11.beat Lewandowski in there. The way he judged his race and around the

:13:12. > :13:18.sting out of the others and the biggest sting needed to be run out

:13:19. > :13:22.of the legs of Alcala who ran softly in the heat yesterday. He just

:13:23. > :13:26.pipped Tom Lancashire on the line. Alcala, I'm pleased he didn't win a

:13:27. > :13:31.medal really because he was lucky to be in the final. 1.52 was the last

:13:32. > :13:40.800, which shows you, Lewandowski absolutely able to do that. Tom gave

:13:41. > :13:45.it everything. Tom probably ran about 1.5 1.54 for his last 100 the

:13:46. > :13:46.same as yesterday but the medals went to Lewandowski, Berglund,

:13:47. > :13:57.Sasinek, and Tom in fifth place. Tom, you gave it everything, you

:13:58. > :14:03.always do, Steve Cram described it as a messy race, how would you sum

:14:04. > :14:06.it up? That was the word I was going to use exactly. I'm obviously

:14:07. > :14:14.disappointed. I desperately wanted this medal. I can have no complaints

:14:15. > :14:21.today, like I say, it was a messy race. I think maybe the first half

:14:22. > :14:24.of the race I was maybe a bit too focused on trying to get into

:14:25. > :14:30.positions and hold positions. I could maybe have read the race

:14:31. > :14:32.better and be more patient and worked my way through like

:14:33. > :14:40.Lewandowski did and a couple of the other guys. So, I mean, there is

:14:41. > :14:44.always things you can look at that you could change, especially when it

:14:45. > :14:49.doesn't go to plan. Yes, I'm really gutted. When you are in the moment

:14:50. > :14:55.are you just going on instinct? Yes, a lot of it is, you cannot plan

:14:56. > :14:58.these races to the nth degree. So I try and think about as many

:14:59. > :15:05.different possibilities as I can and figure out what I want to do in each

:15:06. > :15:09.situation. But like today it's just hard to prepare for those changes of

:15:10. > :15:19.direction and pace all of the time. It's disappointing. Thank you for

:15:20. > :15:22.talking to us. While that was happening we have seen it

:15:23. > :15:31.fascinating climax to the pole vault final. Impressive in the early

:15:32. > :15:41.stages, Stefanidi chose to pass force of the bar is at 4.85. Lisa

:15:42. > :15:45.Ryzih made light work of that. Stefanidi chose to pass again so it

:15:46. > :15:52.is a real game of cat and mouse. A bit of a stand-off. Stefanidi, the

:15:53. > :16:03.Olympic champion, chose to watch on and see if Lisa rise -- -- Lisa

:16:04. > :16:10.Ryzih would run out of steam and put the ball back in the German's half,

:16:11. > :16:18.very much so. This attempt was too much. And after a couple of passes

:16:19. > :16:26.Stefanidi decided to rejoin the competition.

:16:27. > :16:34.At the first attempt very comfortably. The tiniest of rats on

:16:35. > :16:42.the way down that she knew because of the foul of Ryzih, that was

:16:43. > :16:49.likely to take the gold, it wasn't confirmed at that stage because

:16:50. > :16:55.Ryzih chose to pass and then had this at 4.85 to go back into the

:16:56. > :17:08.lead. But it wouldn't happen for the German. So really piling on the

:17:09. > :17:19.pressure Stefanidi. A dominant performance having seen the foul.

:17:20. > :17:23.4.85 and that's how to do it. She is the Olympic champion for a good

:17:24. > :17:32.reason. She really did give that a wobble though. But it still wasn't

:17:33. > :17:39.quite confirmed because Ryzih did have one last try at that height. A

:17:40. > :17:53.lifetime best of 75 but the height was too much. Ryzih had to settle

:17:54. > :17:56.for second place. And it's meant the gold was handed to Stefanidi, a

:17:57. > :18:06.European title to add to the Olympic title from last year. Just about

:18:07. > :18:23.ready for the men's 400, some introductions to make first.

:18:24. > :18:34.Found things a bit difficult in the semifinal but is all business

:18:35. > :18:45.tonight. You can't be not impressed with Vedel. APB in the first round

:18:46. > :18:53.and semifinal. The enormous talent still just 19 but really this race

:18:54. > :18:58.is about the man, Vedel. Only a semifinalist in the last few

:18:59. > :19:02.Olympics that he is imperious, is going for three European titles in a

:19:03. > :19:09.row. He is the world indoor champion twice and he can run just as quick

:19:10. > :19:22.indoors as out and he is simply a lot better than the field here.

:19:23. > :19:25.Omelko bronze last year behind Vedel. As is often the case in

:19:26. > :19:29.indoor Championships, there are certain events which are strong,

:19:30. > :19:38.competitive and others which are less so. This may well be a

:19:39. > :19:47.procession. But Tim diminishes achievement as he goes for a funeral

:19:48. > :19:51.robe at work and the challenge come? Several men have won this title

:19:52. > :19:57.twice including Britain's to line the day go. And Todd Bennett. Nobody

:19:58. > :20:03.has won it three times and Maslak attempts to do so tonight. We

:20:04. > :20:09.watched Vedel in Prague and he went out on a ridiculous 20.99 and does

:20:10. > :20:17.like to go out hard but he can win this probably whichever way. I think

:20:18. > :20:27.he is a lot better, that is being kind to the rest. Vedel is improving

:20:28. > :20:31.and he will be enjoying running but, what happens with athletes, the

:20:32. > :20:35.thing that disappoints me is that this is his domain and he knows he

:20:36. > :20:40.is good at this so he runs with confidence and all of the ability

:20:41. > :20:44.but he never really went out into the big world stage to transfer the

:20:45. > :20:48.ability. He doesn't run with the same confidence when he comes up

:20:49. > :20:52.against the big guys, that is the a disappointment for me. Great at this

:20:53. > :21:08.stuff but you should be better outdoors. Let's remind ourselves how

:21:09. > :21:14.good he is. Maslak, this is the former, he goes out hard, great

:21:15. > :21:19.200-metre Place but hangs on. Look at the gap he had hit two years ago.

:21:20. > :21:23.At the European level he is way better and at the world level he

:21:24. > :21:27.still wins, he's beating people here. The previous one, the two

:21:28. > :21:31.World Championships, this was in Poland and only goes outdoors and

:21:32. > :21:36.lets the same people beaten outdoors and for me I'm not quite sure why

:21:37. > :21:39.that happens as often as it does. He's a great athlete, I love

:21:40. > :21:45.watching him run and I'm not being negative towards him but he should

:21:46. > :21:51.win this with ease so on finding it hard. I'm trying to find out what

:21:52. > :21:52.the average drop off time is between indoor and outdoor and most of them

:21:53. > :22:13.seem to be about a second. But, he, I don't know what he

:22:14. > :22:24.doesn't have the power outdoors, I don't know why translates. Even over

:22:25. > :22:31.200 metres if you run a 20.5 onto Ben is that is fast. And his best

:22:32. > :22:36.outside is 20.49 and he does have the 200-metre Place. Anyway, we are

:22:37. > :22:46.really analysing him, he's a brilliant athlete, let's enjoy him.

:22:47. > :22:52.During the semifinal it is a shame that there are no British

:22:53. > :22:59.contenders. It is not a strong events. Several adjusted run a

:23:00. > :23:05.qualifying time and the rules were there that said you had to turn up

:23:06. > :23:25.at the trials, sadly no British contenders.

:23:26. > :23:32.Usually they get straight into the race after the introductions but a

:23:33. > :23:47.bit of old weight for Garcia and the rest. We were just about ready now.

:23:48. > :24:01.20,000 people here, a good crowd on Saturday evening.

:24:02. > :24:13.Omelko goes on the outside, lane six. Maslak he won in Gothenberg and

:24:14. > :24:21.Prague and here it goes in Belgrade for a hat-trick and Vedel, 19,

:24:22. > :24:27.reigning European junior champion, again as composure beyond his years.

:24:28. > :24:30.Bonevacia from the Netherlands, used to run for the Netherlands Antilles

:24:31. > :24:45.but that country is not allowed to compete. Bua the closest man in

:24:46. > :24:45.times to Maslak. Garcia has made it, they're very strong Spanish

:24:46. > :24:59.contingent. Not actually a steeply banked indoor

:25:00. > :25:35.track here. Temp Maslak two titles before, the

:25:36. > :25:48.final of the men's 400 metres. He will start to fly now. Bua powering

:25:49. > :25:57.past, opening up a gap. Bonevacia going well, so to Bua. Maslak has

:25:58. > :26:01.company. A bit of a squeeze on Bonevacia from Maslak. These two

:26:02. > :26:09.having a right tussle. Maslak has to do it the hard way and he has the

:26:10. > :26:17.speed, Bonevacia behind. Maslak two metres clear. Maslak clear of the

:26:18. > :26:27.rest and strolling towards another title, and other European indoor

:26:28. > :26:31.400-metre gold, at hat-trick of wins for Maslak. He didn't have the lead

:26:32. > :26:38.initially, he had that competition early on from Bonevacia that he can

:26:39. > :26:49.win it anyway. He's untouchable. Over 400 metres indoors only it

:26:50. > :26:53.again. To be fair try to take a turn, a slower first lap than they

:26:54. > :27:03.normally run. And he was smart there. He could see the others and

:27:04. > :27:14.they did not let him dominate in the same way he normally does. What I

:27:15. > :27:19.thought to did was run a really hard first 100 metres and when he got

:27:20. > :27:27.around the top NTE staff. That gave Bonevacia a chance to, ever.

:27:28. > :27:35.He then glided past down the back straight. I thought for a minute

:27:36. > :27:40.that young infidel would come through with a bronze were didn't

:27:41. > :27:46.have the legs in the end. Ten Vhrovec winning it with ease. The

:27:47. > :27:51.athletes behind him were running their best because we will confirm

:27:52. > :28:01.in a minute, a personal best, a Dutch record and a personal best for

:28:02. > :28:04.Bonevacia. I mean, these were quick races for the athletes around Bua,

:28:05. > :28:09.this was as good as they could do and it still wasn't good enough.

:28:10. > :28:21.Hats off to them because they have raised their game. A personal best

:28:22. > :28:28.from Vedel, he had a bit of a race there but the result as we expected.

:28:29. > :28:35.The arm aloft again. The sleeved arms. He is a great indoor runner

:28:36. > :28:54.and has another title. Confirmation of that. 45.7 seven.

:28:55. > :29:03.Well here is a little look back to the shot put. The 19 year poll in

:29:04. > :29:09.the second round did this, a massive effort and through a lifetime best

:29:10. > :29:22.of over 21 metres outdoors in January. In the indoor Stadium in

:29:23. > :29:27.that second round he has unleashed a monster part of 21.97, a massive

:29:28. > :29:33.lifetime best, further than he has thrown indoors or out, a world lead.

:29:34. > :29:43.Huge throw for the young 19-year-old. Twice world junior

:29:44. > :29:58.champion in that second round. He can hardly believe that. So in the

:29:59. > :30:04.fifth round Tom Esch Danek, 21.30 his best this year, did this in

:30:05. > :30:17.round five. A big effort from the cheque.

:30:18. > :30:35.He led in the early stages did the German Bert Stanek went ahead 21.43,

:30:36. > :30:37.lifetime best so Storl, this was the best of his afternoon and his

:30:38. > :30:52.restored bonds. Lynch response. It was big. But not big enough. It

:30:53. > :31:01.was 21.30, four throws beyond 21 metres in the. -- in the end. David

:31:02. > :31:08.Storl, the defending champion, it wasn't to be. Gold two years, had to

:31:09. > :31:15.settle with that bronze medal finish. Konrad Bukowiecki, with the

:31:16. > :31:21.Polish flag, 19 years of age.? Is over his junior title over a drugs

:31:22. > :31:24.issue and has received a warning but Konrad Bukowiecki, European Indoor

:31:25. > :31:38.champion. So, the men's 400-metre final, as

:31:39. > :31:48.well as going with the favourite as we expected, something interesting

:31:49. > :31:52.we noticed on the track there, from about 250, as they were clearing the

:31:53. > :31:56.box and numbers I remember thinking they haven't taken away four and

:31:57. > :32:00.five and as they break into their lane you could C4 and five were

:32:01. > :32:03.still on the track and they avoided it which they would want it because

:32:04. > :32:06.they would want to be as bunched up as possible but there is an argument

:32:07. > :32:10.coming through the line at the end of the race spreading out on the

:32:11. > :32:13.line, you can see the kind of speed they are going over the line, that

:32:14. > :32:18.would cause somebody an accident if you got tangled up in one of those.

:32:19. > :32:23.Absolutely and you spotted that in the women's 400, they take the line

:32:24. > :32:29.and go for it and look how far she got out there and the Polish athlete

:32:30. > :32:32.went outside her. There would have been a problem because they would

:32:33. > :32:37.have been coming at speeds. You don't want to be facing a set of

:32:38. > :32:41.starting blocks on the floor and also the sign. It could have been

:32:42. > :32:48.ugly. There is no reason not to clear it, it just takes another body

:32:49. > :32:52.to pick it up and move it on. That would be great. Note to the

:32:53. > :32:56.organisers. The final event of the night is the men's 60-metre final

:32:57. > :33:00.and we are all looking forward to it. Three British men going in that,

:33:01. > :33:08.three chances for a medal, Colin thinks it will be a one, two, three.

:33:09. > :33:14.The man we are looking to for Goldeyes Richard Kilty, the European

:33:15. > :33:17.Indoor champion and he has been a world indoor champion and he is up

:33:18. > :33:22.for this and spoke to Phil a couple of days ago.

:33:23. > :33:30.Kilty gets a flying start. Gold for Kilty! Richard Kilty is already

:33:31. > :33:35.moving away, it's going to be gold for Britain.

:33:36. > :33:40.Coming in as defending champion, how does that affect your preparation

:33:41. > :33:50.and your mindset? Yeah, it's a bit different,

:33:51. > :33:52.I've never gone into anything as defending champion,

:33:53. > :33:55.I've never defended a title. When I come into a 60-metre

:33:56. > :33:57.competition in the world everybody knows me

:33:58. > :33:59.as somebody who has won everything there

:34:00. > :34:00.is indoors so definitely people see me

:34:01. > :34:03.as a bit of a target but I'm trying to look on it as a relaxed thing and

:34:04. > :34:08.not as if I have a title to defend but just a fresh competition to win

:34:09. > :34:11.and go out and attack it again. How do you prepare

:34:12. > :34:13.for the perfect start? I think the best way to prepare

:34:14. > :34:16.is just have your mind completely clear and then

:34:17. > :34:18.when you rise nothing there whatsoever

:34:19. > :34:25.and on the next sound I've always been known

:34:26. > :34:26.to have superfast reactions,

:34:27. > :34:28.and on the odd occasion reactions I saw one quote that said

:34:29. > :34:36.Richard Kilty can absolutely defend his title at the European

:34:37. > :34:41.indoors if he doesn't false start. They have been marginal and maybe

:34:42. > :34:44.in your opinion the wrong side But very, very close.

:34:45. > :34:50.How do you perceive it? The rules are the rules but I think

:34:51. > :34:53.they are a little bit dated and it is a bit

:34:54. > :34:57.of a round figure, is like saying all humans

:34:58. > :35:02.can run as fast as each other but we can't,

:35:03. > :35:07.we have different people and everyone

:35:08. > :35:12.can react differently because everybody in a race has completely

:35:13. > :35:14.different reaction times, always. process and then go

:35:15. > :35:25.but I will definitely be aiming to react

:35:26. > :35:28.reaction from me is still quite quick.

:35:29. > :35:35.How aware are you of what they do, how they are running, their

:35:36. > :35:38.Or is it all about you and your lane?

:35:39. > :35:41.I think lots of people are threats, it is a

:35:42. > :35:48.championships, people can pull it out of the bag.

:35:49. > :35:51.I did it in 2014, as a 66-1 underdog, and people can do that

:35:52. > :35:53.so you cannot count anybody out and you have

:35:54. > :35:57.to have respect for all of

:35:58. > :35:59.the people in the field but going into the race

:36:00. > :36:01.knowing you are going to

:36:02. > :36:04.deliver your best on the day and have the confidence that that will

:36:05. > :36:07.What would it mean to you to successfully defend your

:36:08. > :36:12.It's the first championships I have been in since

:36:13. > :36:19.becoming a dad and that has given me the motivation and it is a breath of

:36:20. > :36:25.fresh air to me him coming into our lives,

:36:26. > :36:31.it gives you that bit of motivation and spurs

:36:32. > :36:42.bit more to make my son proud.

:36:43. > :36:51.If he needs any more encouragement, Laura Muir winning in such style.

:36:52. > :36:57.Steve Cram, it is all yours. It has been a little while coming.

:36:58. > :37:00.She has had opportunities, but sometimes you have to go through the

:37:01. > :37:04.tears of disappointment to enjoy these moments a little bit more.

:37:05. > :37:16.Ennaoui taking the bronze medal for Poland.

:37:17. > :37:23.What a demonstration of running. Are all sorts of ways in which 1500

:37:24. > :37:28.metre runners can race, tactics. The mens rea is was different, we

:37:29. > :37:35.described it as messy but this was a pure display of ability, strength

:37:36. > :37:40.and speed. Let's not forget this young lady here, Klosterhalfen,

:37:41. > :37:44.another personal best. She is a superb talent, she is three years

:37:45. > :37:49.younger than Laura Muir and is getting stronger all the time.

:37:50. > :37:52.That's not the last we will see of her, I am pretty sure. She is going

:37:53. > :38:10.to be a contender in the years to come.

:38:11. > :38:18.What a moment for Scotland's Laragne stepping up to take her gold-medal,

:38:19. > :38:25.her first championship medal, and how deserved that is. A new British

:38:26. > :38:28.record, a new championship record and of course a new personal best to

:38:29. > :38:33.go along with all of the others she has been setting in this wonderful

:38:34. > :38:41.season she is having. Congratulations to Laura, to her

:38:42. > :38:45.coach, and I am sure all of Scotland is cheering, she is fast becoming

:38:46. > :38:49.very well-known, only north of the border but throughout the UK. A

:38:50. > :39:04.record breaker and now a gold medalist.

:39:05. > :39:39.Congratulations, Laura. With all good things in life, it's like

:39:40. > :39:43.having your first taste of ice cream, it just means you want a bit

:39:44. > :39:47.more and she will be back tomorrow for the 3,000-metre final. We all

:39:48. > :39:50.hope she can replicate this performance and get back to the top

:39:51. > :39:54.of the rostrum. She will be a little bit tired when she wakes up in the

:39:55. > :39:57.morning but goodness me it is a good feeling when you have a gold medal

:39:58. > :40:02.hanging around the bedpost. Do they still have bedposts?

:40:03. > :40:12.Great shots. Her picture will be all over our newspapers, I hope,

:40:13. > :40:14.tomorrow. She deserves all of the plaudits I'm sure she is going to

:40:15. > :40:21.get. European Indoor champion.

:40:22. > :40:31.STUDIO: Well done Paul Lemieux, Paula Radcliffe has joined us in the

:40:32. > :40:37.studio. If you want to say which of the championships Danac events she

:40:38. > :40:44.will be feeling more confident about. I know how strong she is but

:40:45. > :40:50.it is hard to pick which one she is stronger at, 1500 or 3000 because

:40:51. > :40:55.she has the range up to 5000 metres, she ran a British record indoors for

:40:56. > :41:01.5000 metres. She has declared she will double up at the Worlds

:41:02. > :41:05.potentially with 1500 and 5000. She is capable of doing that and this is

:41:06. > :41:11.a stepping stone to test whether she can do that. What Asham in her

:41:12. > :41:14.confidence and how strong she is, how she attacked the final today. I

:41:15. > :41:19.said earlier she couldn't think about tomorrow and she wasn't full

:41:20. > :41:23.sup she was just thinking, how am I going to run this race? The best way

:41:24. > :41:32.to guarantee I ran to my strengths and as hard as I can and take it to

:41:33. > :41:35.those girls. I don't think she was thinking about the championship

:41:36. > :41:38.record, just thinking about running hard and making it an honest race so

:41:39. > :41:44.that no little mistakes like getting shoved or tripped could get in the

:41:45. > :41:47.way. That music and the lights tells us one thing, another final is upon

:41:48. > :41:50.us and it's the denoument of the evening, the men's 60-metre final

:41:51. > :41:55.and Britain as a trio contenders. Steve Cram.

:41:56. > :42:01.COMMENTATOR: Well, we do, and what an opportunity. We have never had a

:42:02. > :42:04.one, two, three, we have had a one, two on a couple of occasions but

:42:05. > :42:11.there are three Swedes in this as well which is unusual for a 60-metre

:42:12. > :42:23.final. Rose, the first of their three contenders to step out. Quite

:42:24. > :42:28.enjoying these lights and attention, a bit of a struct from the

:42:29. > :42:37.sprinters. They are never a shy lot, they? Bah coming out. And then the

:42:38. > :42:45.first of the three British athletes. Theo Etienne, brilliant start in the

:42:46. > :42:48.semifinal. His coach has done a brilliant job with him. He walks

:42:49. > :42:54.down to take his place in this final.

:42:55. > :43:03.This guy starts fast, Pascal Mancini and it is good for Kilty he is next

:43:04. > :43:07.to him, having a fast start next to him keeps you on your toes. A knows

:43:08. > :43:16.he is going to start quickly himself anyway. The man who makes this his

:43:17. > :43:27.speciality, Richard Kilty of Great Britain. He won the world title in

:43:28. > :43:40.2014, followed it up with the European title two years ago. He now

:43:41. > :43:56.walks down to take his place down at the Star blocks. What a great

:43:57. > :44:01.Championships Booker is having. He is a former footballer -- Volko. And

:44:02. > :44:11.Austin Hamilton who moved to Sweden at the age of nine from Jamaica. He

:44:12. > :44:16.is a talented teenager. This man is the British champion. He won the

:44:17. > :44:23.trials when Kilty was disqualified for a false start. Coached by his

:44:24. > :44:28.father Sam now. Very close to the finish line, in line with the

:44:29. > :44:32.stadium, they are further over than the group. That is the group of

:44:33. > :44:38.British supporters. Andy Robertson's team are here to see if he can give

:44:39. > :44:42.Richard Kilty a run for his money. Can we get a British one, two,

:44:43. > :44:53.three. There is the full line-up for you. The 60-metre final is just

:44:54. > :44:57.moments away. The one thing Kilty has in his locker is he has been

:44:58. > :45:04.here so many times and these guys get nervous. Base all of the

:45:05. > :45:07.problems with starting yesterday. For many of these guys they wouldn't

:45:08. > :45:12.have done that, three times through, three times warming up, I saw him

:45:13. > :45:16.getting on the bus coming to the Stadium earlier this afternoon and

:45:17. > :45:21.he looked so relaxed and confident and why not? But his main rivals

:45:22. > :45:28.could be those wearing the same shirt as him. Theo Etienne is in

:45:29. > :45:35.lane three, Andy Robertson away from the action really in lane eight.

:45:36. > :45:43.More nerves, Colin? Yes, sprinters hate this. They are walking back now

:45:44. > :45:47.thinking the gun could have gone and I could have known the result

:45:48. > :45:51.already! They have to regather themselves, take that deep breath

:45:52. > :45:55.in, refocus and try and calm those nervous. A little smile from Theo

:45:56. > :46:10.Etienne. Robertson, I said before this is an

:46:11. > :46:14.opportunity for him to show that away from Britain he can come to the

:46:15. > :46:19.championships and produce the big performance to get him on the

:46:20. > :46:24.rostrum. He will be wanting to win it though. Away we go again. I'm

:46:25. > :46:29.wondering if there is a problem? Know I am looking at the screen and

:46:30. > :46:35.glancing to my left on the track. I have no ideas yet. When you're

:46:36. > :46:45.called to your blocks, you do have to go to your blocks quickly but in

:46:46. > :46:51.a timely fashion and it may well be that Bah is not coming quick and.

:46:52. > :46:58.Some people like to be the first to settle. Not me. The 60th metre

:46:59. > :47:07.final, Kilty aiming to defend his title. Etienne, Andy Robertson, the

:47:08. > :47:22.two British men contesting this with him. Cleanly away. I said cleanly

:47:23. > :47:28.away, it's looked clean to May. Kilty got a good start and he is

:47:29. > :47:32.doing the smart thing there. He carried on Dan because if they are

:47:33. > :47:38.all going to back he is taking his time to recompose. Mancini Addy good

:47:39. > :47:46.start, is it a good thing to have alongside? He is electric out the

:47:47. > :47:53.blocks, was it someone on the side? We're waiting for reaction times. I

:47:54. > :47:57.think it is an advantage having Mancini next to you. Yes he is an

:47:58. > :48:03.explosive start but what is good about him is Richard knows he can

:48:04. > :48:06.draw on its because he is better. From 30-40 metres he'll be thinking

:48:07. > :48:12.I should be on his shoulder started to move away so he will always know

:48:13. > :48:17.that Mancini is there. I thought lane to perhaps was the first to

:48:18. > :48:22.rise definitely. It is a red and black card. It has gone to Andy

:48:23. > :48:29.Robertson. My eyes for over on the other side. He has been

:48:30. > :48:38.disqualified. He wants to have a luck, he said show me. He is just

:48:39. > :48:48.moving. I was watching lane two. It is the pressure applied and he is

:48:49. > :48:57.saying we're not going to get a time on there. You know you have to get a

:48:58. > :49:01.good start but you have to be in the race to get a good start. He will be

:49:02. > :49:10.bitterly disappointed with that knowing there was a good opportunity

:49:11. > :49:17.there. They have to settle now. Etienne in three, Kilty and five.

:49:18. > :49:24.They get away cleanly. Here comes Kilty, Kilty wins it!. Gold medal

:49:25. > :49:33.for Richard Kilty. Nothing stopping him. The best comes through once

:49:34. > :49:37.more and Kilty, calm, cool, collected, the champion again. The

:49:38. > :49:48.union Jacks flying, the celebrations can start. He knew didn't see. --

:49:49. > :49:52.didn't see. That is really what to did, and if you got out a little bit

:49:53. > :49:58.quicker but once he is up and running, he is so good in the last

:49:59. > :50:07.25 metres and finishes better than anybody else. Was going away in the

:50:08. > :50:12.end and your three years while champion and three gold medals. He

:50:13. > :50:18.is so strong in the event, is so focused any knows what he can do. He

:50:19. > :50:24.manages to keep his cool over the 60 metres and for me what I like to see

:50:25. > :50:26.is Richard driving out of the blocks and then using great turnover and

:50:27. > :50:33.great cadence to ease him away from the rest of the pack and he always

:50:34. > :50:41.keeps calm. Over the 60-metre distance he is always keeping a good

:50:42. > :50:48.compared. -- good calm head. Let's have a look at this again. Bang, the

:50:49. > :50:53.gun goes, Mancini, yes you expect him to react but Richard knows he

:50:54. > :50:57.can draw on him, no rush to get to the shoulder and once he does get

:50:58. > :51:05.there, Mancini literally crumbles. Starts to tighten up while Kilty

:51:06. > :51:10.uses his strength and ability and confidence to pull himself away from

:51:11. > :51:14.the rest of the field and to run a season 's best with this kind of

:51:15. > :51:20.pressure around you when you know a gold medal is at stake, it shows you

:51:21. > :51:25.the quality of this man. Arms pumping, focused. Working hard.

:51:26. > :51:33.Never giving up until he crosses the line and that's what you want to

:51:34. > :51:38.achieve. He was going away, you have to say Volko ran brilliantly. And he

:51:39. > :51:45.didn't get a better start. A tall figure for a footballer. A former

:51:46. > :51:49.footballer. Richard got out well, it's that bit of the race when he

:51:50. > :51:57.gets moving and he is better than these guys there. But, a season 's

:51:58. > :52:02.best, what I quite like, I was in Sheffield when he had the false

:52:03. > :52:07.start and people were saying things, he was not bothered, he knew he

:52:08. > :52:12.would get selected, he knew it was OK. I think you came here very

:52:13. > :52:18.assured, very confident and to be fair he has delivered. You cannot

:52:19. > :52:22.argue. This is his manner is it? He is comfortable on this and I say to

:52:23. > :52:28.you and to everybody else, Richard is a quality sprinter. We can't

:52:29. > :52:33.forget that. He went under 650 which is a tough mark to go under. He won

:52:34. > :52:37.world titles and has taken on anybody over this distance so for me

:52:38. > :52:41.when the pressure is on who will deliver. I think certainly his

:52:42. > :52:48.experiences what them through this. He didn't get fazed by a team-mate,

:52:49. > :52:52.he had his own thing what to do. Hit the blocks well, the explosive, be

:52:53. > :52:56.positive and get away from the crowd. He executed that in a

:52:57. > :53:07.spectacular way. Brilliant performance. Fantastic. Richard

:53:08. > :53:13.Maton changes over the years to his regime, his coach getting some good

:53:14. > :53:18.results and that is a testament to his confidence. As he said he

:53:19. > :53:22.somehow has to transfer this into the big performances but goodness

:53:23. > :53:27.me, that doesn't matter right now, another gold medal, three in three

:53:28. > :53:32.years, defends his title, European indoor champion and a quick time.

:53:33. > :53:37.Two or three people ran a very quick and improved behind it. He dragged

:53:38. > :53:42.some people here. A new national record for the Slovakian Volko, 6.58

:53:43. > :53:49.for the silver medal and the 19-year-old Hamilton with a new PB,

:53:50. > :53:53.6.63 just nicked the bronze medal. His team-mate got the same time with

:53:54. > :54:03.a season 's best. Andy Robertson sadly disqualified. Congratulations

:54:04. > :54:09.to Kilty, first of all let's hear from Great Britain's Robertson who

:54:10. > :54:14.was disqualified. It is hard to know what to say after an offence like

:54:15. > :54:18.that, you would hope it wouldn't happen, describe what he thought had

:54:19. > :54:25.happened? I thought I was fined, reacted normally, I don't know, I'm

:54:26. > :54:29.a bit frustrated really, I feel like... It happens, I feel I was a

:54:30. > :54:38.bit wrong defy modest. When you are asked to go to the officials and see

:54:39. > :54:41.what the readout was,... It was below .1 which was frustrating

:54:42. > :54:46.because I felt I was in a PB form. I felt I could have won that today,

:54:47. > :54:51.sadly not meant to be though. But, I have had a good indoor is up until

:54:52. > :54:55.now, national champion, I felt I would have been a contender up there

:54:56. > :55:02.today but it is what it is. Thank you we appreciate it. It is

:55:03. > :55:07.heartbreaking and agonising and that is the absolute opposites, that is

:55:08. > :55:11.just euphoria. When you say you're going to deliver and Richard Kilty

:55:12. > :55:17.has done that time and time again. His second European title, his world

:55:18. > :55:21.indoor title and he Phil. Congratulations Richard, another

:55:22. > :55:26.title, how does this compare? Amazing, to defend it, I don't know

:55:27. > :55:32.what to say. So many emotions over the last few weeks and my life has

:55:33. > :55:37.changed now. Different life and I came out and defended my European

:55:38. > :55:41.title. I have never been defeated in a major championship, it feels

:55:42. > :55:44.awesome. We should remember a few weeks ago you were disqualified at

:55:45. > :55:48.the trials, we didn't know if you would make the team, you had a cold

:55:49. > :55:53.and you've taken the gold, does this mean more since he's been through

:55:54. > :55:57.more? Yes on ago Boliever of adversity making you a stronger

:55:58. > :56:03.person I've been through a fair deal of adversity myself. When it matters

:56:04. > :56:08.I'm willing to let my heart on the line. I've shown that and it is

:56:09. > :56:12.amazing, I want to say I love you my little son Richard, you can tell all

:56:13. > :56:17.the kids in a few years' time that your dad is a two-time world

:56:18. > :56:22.champion, my fiancee, my mum, my dad, my nieces, all of my family,

:56:23. > :56:26.everyone back in Teesside, I love being from Teesside and representing

:56:27. > :56:33.Great Britain, I'm buzzing with pride for my family, my supporters,

:56:34. > :56:36.everything. You deserve to be. Enjoy the celebrations. Thanks guys I want

:56:37. > :56:40.to say that was for my good friend James Ellington and Nigel Levine and

:56:41. > :56:46.those guys are going to come back strong and that was a performance

:56:47. > :56:49.for them. Nicely said thank you. They're very emotional Richard Kilty

:56:50. > :56:54.there and he has every right to be. We will tell you what is going on

:56:55. > :57:00.from tomorrow, we are now from 230. Laura Muir going for gold in the

:57:01. > :57:04.3000 metres and the relay and the women's 60 metres final and

:57:05. > :57:10.semifinal. Another packed afternoon here. Shall we have a little look

:57:11. > :57:15.the medal table and see what's Richard and Laura's goals have done?

:57:16. > :57:19.That looks pretty healthy. Great Britain have moved on to second

:57:20. > :57:24.place behind Poland. Richard's medal ceremony will be tomorrow of course

:57:25. > :57:27.because the stadium rapidly emptying and people are making their way home

:57:28. > :57:35.after what has been a buzzing last hour. Ever since the 1500 metres and

:57:36. > :57:39.then the 400, some great British performances. Some great

:57:40. > :57:41.performances but jam-packed. The arena has been buzzing tonight,

:57:42. > :57:49.great atmosphere, great field events as well. People who, whether it is

:57:50. > :57:56.time with this vet or luckier with her fourth, these experiences will

:57:57. > :58:00.push people on? They will. It doesn't make it any easier but both

:58:01. > :58:03.of those athletes walked frustrated, they didn't do anything wrong and

:58:04. > :58:07.gave it their best shot but they were just so close to snatching that

:58:08. > :58:10.medal and it would have made such a big difference I think to both of

:58:11. > :58:16.them and to Kyle Langford to advance. We have very little time so

:58:17. > :58:22.we should say a word about Laura Muir. Some of her achievements.

:58:23. > :58:25.Denise and I were saying that is out of the predictions now because we

:58:26. > :58:28.are sure she's coming back and getting a goal to Morris a game over

:58:29. > :58:36.there. I think she underlined their shape she is in. She can run the

:58:37. > :58:42.3000 metres and no worries about who she be fatigued because the way she

:58:43. > :58:48.trains, she does sessions back to back so it won't do anything about

:58:49. > :58:52.recovery. Don't the past another record to stop she will sleep well

:58:53. > :58:56.tonight, we have put in quite a shift here but we are getting

:58:57. > :59:02.ourselves ready for more tomorrow. We'll be back tomorrow at 2.30. And

:59:03. > :59:13.we are looking forward to a greater of athletics on onwards. -- great

:59:14. > :59:21.year. One of the greatest races in history. He is going to get that!

:59:22. > :59:35.The Manchester run this underway. MUSIC PLAYS

:59:36. > :00:13.You same boat, a superhero. Oh, the dragon.

:00:14. > :00:16.Dylan Thomas.
