:00:48. > :00:53.Welcome to the third and final day of the European indoor athletics
:00:54. > :00:57.Championships in Belgrade, capital of Serbia and birthplace to one of
:00:58. > :01:07.the Worlds greatest sportsman. I can't think who might be. In these
:01:08. > :01:11.parts, Novak is king. He even has his own restaurant, a shrine to his
:01:12. > :01:16.achievements. It's safe to say he's done OK for himself. And doing OK
:01:17. > :01:20.for themselves here are the British team, with three golds so far it's a
:01:21. > :01:32.case of game... Nothing stopping him! Set... He's won the gold medal!
:01:33. > :01:36.And match. The Laura Muir, it is now a case of doubles as she bids for
:01:37. > :01:39.her second gold at these championships. Just like Andy Murray
:01:40. > :01:45.her compatriot, she is one super Scot. Laura Muir chasing this
:01:46. > :01:50.British record, she's done it! Who knows what Laura Muir now has ahead
:01:51. > :01:55.of her. She's wasted vulnerable waited for this moment for a few
:01:56. > :02:00.years now. As Laura Muir stretches away and comes to win the gold medal
:02:01. > :02:08.for Great Britain. What a moment of Scotland's Laura Muir. Back for the
:02:09. > :02:11.3,000-metre final. We are here once again in Belgrade for the third and
:02:12. > :02:16.final day of these championships. It feels like as we sit on the
:02:17. > :02:19.precipice of spring, we are also sitting on the edge of a burst of
:02:20. > :02:23.new talent in athletics. We've seen plenty of it in the last couple of
:02:24. > :02:29.days. It's been exciting to see some of the new faces coming up with the
:02:30. > :02:35.goods. A very small apology for coming on late, we had a local power
:02:36. > :02:38.cut, nothing we could do anything about. You'll be pleased to know
:02:39. > :02:46.we've missed nothing on the track or fields. First of all is important to
:02:47. > :02:51.say hello to my guests, Paula Radcliffe, Colin Jackson and Denise
:02:52. > :02:55.Lewis. You'll be looking ahead to a fantastic afternoon but it's time to
:02:56. > :02:59.look back as well. We should start with Laura Muir. I was so pleased to
:03:00. > :03:03.see when I was looking online that she is rightfully getting a lot of
:03:04. > :03:07.the headlines back home and her achievements are being put into
:03:08. > :03:12.context. And what she can do today and how historically important that
:03:13. > :03:15.is. It's historically important but it's also hugely important for Laura
:03:16. > :03:20.herself. She set herself this target. It's a big stepping stone in
:03:21. > :03:26.her target towards possibly doing the double in the summer in London.
:03:27. > :03:31.It's tough, we worked out she will have run 45 laps of this track by
:03:32. > :03:35.the time she finishes today. It's not the toughest opposition but it
:03:36. > :03:40.is hard and she's made it harder for herself by the way she ran
:03:41. > :03:43.yesterday, not that I'm criticising. She really needed this medal and she
:03:44. > :03:51.gave herself her very best shot at doing it. She absolutely only
:03:52. > :03:54.focused on the 1500 metres yesterday. She will have had to
:03:55. > :03:59.recover as much as possible to raise the 3000 metres today. One of the
:04:00. > :04:04.things social media loved yesterday, not just the way she is becoming the
:04:05. > :04:08.nation 's sweetheart, was the insistence that she should have her
:04:09. > :04:12.lap of honour. They were running behind schedule so one of the
:04:13. > :04:19.officials decided to deny Laura that moment. Here she is. Laura looked a
:04:20. > :04:24.bit exasperated at first. She said, if it comes down to it, I can out
:04:25. > :04:31.run you! She went off looking for her flag and we were cheering her
:04:32. > :04:36.on. We were saying, go round Laura, go round! How could you deny?
:04:37. > :04:40.Obviously the 400 metres were about to go off but to rob an athlete of
:04:41. > :04:44.this moment, and the significance of her first gold medal, just a magic
:04:45. > :04:49.moment, that was fantastic for her. She was tweeting pictures of herself
:04:50. > :04:58.last night in the ice bath. There wasn't much I! She was still holding
:04:59. > :05:07.bellowed the lion in the bath. The recovery was so important for today,
:05:08. > :05:13.getting in the ice. She'll have conserved that energy. We mentioned
:05:14. > :05:18.how tough it is as a double to do. The toughest part of it is mentally.
:05:19. > :05:22.It's going through all the preparation of it all. And to
:05:23. > :05:25.deliver the performance you know you are capable of delivering. That's
:05:26. > :05:30.why she went for the record yesterday because she knew she was
:05:31. > :05:33.capable of it. I think she knew that was her absolute best chance. None
:05:34. > :05:38.of those other girls were capable of doing that. She was going with her
:05:39. > :05:43.strongest suit by running hard. I think the hardest time mentally was
:05:44. > :05:47.the first day. To get through those heats in the morning and afternoon,
:05:48. > :05:50.and try and think about keeping enough energy in the bank for the
:05:51. > :05:55.finals, that's the most important thing. Coming back from yesterday to
:05:56. > :05:59.today, she's done that in training so many times where she's hammered a
:06:00. > :06:03.hard session, come back the next day and done another one. Don't
:06:04. > :06:10.underestimate the biggest she's got from that medal as well. -- the
:06:11. > :06:15.beast. That's a huge boost of energy that the other girls are all
:06:16. > :06:22.combating. It's red to do a double. The last person to do it for Great
:06:23. > :06:33.Britain was Colin Jackson -- it's rare to do the double. It was fun to
:06:34. > :06:37.take on the challenge. I think the same thing that Laura is doing, you
:06:38. > :06:42.take on that challenge. For me is the same thing. I was a world leader
:06:43. > :06:48.in the 60 hurdles, I thought, give it a go in the 60 flats. I'm capable
:06:49. > :06:52.of doing well. I thought, give it a go and I ended up running two
:06:53. > :06:58.championship records and winning a gold medal. He just wanted to upset
:06:59. > :07:05.the sprinters because he knew he could and your speed was vote on it
:07:06. > :07:15.that year. -- was so on it that year. Laura is only ten seconds off
:07:16. > :07:20.a world record. Don't expect that... There's enough going on in her life
:07:21. > :07:25.at the moment! And Richard Kilty yesterday delivered when it counted.
:07:26. > :07:29.He is the reigning European indoor champion and he had to come through
:07:30. > :07:33.the heat is knowing there had been problems with false starts and he's
:07:34. > :07:41.had. Himself this year but he kept his composure. He was so focused
:07:42. > :07:44.through the whole championships. We hear a lot about opportunities and
:07:45. > :07:49.taking them but Richard seems to rise when it comes to indoors.
:07:50. > :07:58.Reigning European indoor champion, and he knew it was his title. I
:07:59. > :08:05.always believed in him. Colin was predicting a one to three. Theo
:08:06. > :08:09.Etienne came in fifth. We bumped into Andy recently at the hotel and
:08:10. > :08:14.he was saying how disappointed he was because he fought he could have
:08:15. > :08:19.done very well at these majors -- he thought. I said put it behind you,
:08:20. > :08:24.you can't change history, focus on the summer and stay healthy. We keep
:08:25. > :08:28.preaching that our athletes, stay healthy, that's the only time you
:08:29. > :08:32.can put the real working and deliver. Same thing for Richard
:08:33. > :08:36.Kilty, if he wants to go to the ten second mark he needs to stay as
:08:37. > :08:46.healthy as he can, to put the working and stress himself. You are
:08:47. > :08:51.hearing the Greek anthem at home. Gold medal for the pole vault. That
:08:52. > :08:56.brings us onto the medal table quite nicely. Poland topped the table as
:08:57. > :08:59.we go into this third and final day. Great Britain just behind them with
:09:00. > :09:05.their three gold medals, not picking up anything in the more minor medals
:09:06. > :09:10.just yet in terms of tally but obviously there are more golds to
:09:11. > :09:17.get today, 11 in total. How does that look compare to our predictions
:09:18. > :09:21.from our experts? You can see, I have to say Colin, if I put my money
:09:22. > :09:27.on somebody getting it bang on, you are the one I would say was closest.
:09:28. > :09:29.We shouldn't say we expect, Laura, but we feel Laura is the person is
:09:30. > :09:43.capable of delivering gold. She seemed to grow in confidence in
:09:44. > :09:54.each of them as well. She knows that 800 metres is wide open. Michelle
:09:55. > :10:02.should be the outstanding favourite. I think it is wide open and Shelayna
:10:03. > :10:08.is capable of grabbing a medal. Eilish McColgan in the 3000 metres
:10:09. > :10:11.is also capable of taking a medal. It's tough the 800 on the smaller
:10:12. > :10:16.track indoors and there's a lot of jostling. To navigate that is hard.
:10:17. > :10:22.What are her tactics going to be today? She's got her tactics right
:10:23. > :10:27.in each round so far. She needs to go out with the same attitude and go
:10:28. > :10:33.and run that semifinal as if it was the final. She did that, she
:10:34. > :10:36.controlled it and judged her effort to perfection. She looked really,
:10:37. > :10:42.really strong. Yes the others are going to up their game but you sense
:10:43. > :10:49.Shelayna has got more to come as well. She's building very well.
:10:50. > :10:55.She's got really good flat speed as well. She puts herself in the right
:10:56. > :11:06.position. She's my sneaky person for a medal. I don't think it's so
:11:07. > :11:12.sneaky any more! Here is what is coming up this afternoon. Fresh from
:11:13. > :11:20.the 1500 metre title, Laura Muir is the favourite to fly the 3,000-metre
:11:21. > :11:24.crown. Sprinter Asha Philip will be looking for a medal, first she's got
:11:25. > :11:29.a semifinal to overcome in a few minutes time. Lorraine Ugen and
:11:30. > :11:37.Jazmin Sawyers have strong chances in the long jump. But Serbian
:11:38. > :11:44.Spanovic is the hot favourite and she will have a vocal, local
:11:45. > :11:48.support. We'll see Richard Kilty awarded his 60-metre gold, the third
:11:49. > :11:57.time he stopped the podium at a major indoor Championships. Ashley
:11:58. > :12:03.Bryant lies fourth after day one. And Britain's women will be aiming
:12:04. > :12:11.to end in style as they take on the 4x400 m relay. So in just a few
:12:12. > :12:11.minutes time it's the women's 60 metres semifinals featuring Asha
:12:12. > :12:52.Philip. Let's get out there then, it's the
:12:53. > :12:58.fast women's show coming up. The 60 metres semifinals. Over 60 metres
:12:59. > :13:00.the men did it all in one day. But with a number of entrants in the
:13:01. > :13:30.women's 60 they had to split it. She's run 7.28 this year, not great
:13:31. > :13:42.in the first round. Ciara Neville the 17-year-old from Limerick. Two
:13:43. > :13:50.Irish athletes in the semifinals. Olesya Povh won this title in Paris
:13:51. > :14:04.six years ago. A powerful looking figure.
:14:05. > :14:24.And will need something better than that. Two automatic places here.
:14:25. > :14:33.A very strong German contingent. This is Burghardt. Burghardt looked
:14:34. > :14:46.strong in qualifying. Del Ponte, the 20-year-old, who
:14:47. > :14:48.managed to run a personal best in first round to get a place in this
:14:49. > :15:04.semifinal. 7. 35. Tsimanouskaya has managed 7.21 this
:15:05. > :15:15.season. Struggling in the first round. 7.42. Came through fourth
:15:16. > :15:23.this her heat. Neville, 17-year-olds old. Already
:15:24. > :15:32.done to 7. 30 this season. That's about equal of the Irish record when
:15:33. > :15:35.running the Irish junior title. Two fastest lowers over this -- losers
:15:36. > :16:00.over these semi-finals. Lying low. Gnafoua. So too
:16:01. > :16:12.Burghardt. No doubt about the first, Del Ponte
:16:13. > :16:17.was a long way clear after about 20 metres. She has an explosive start.
:16:18. > :16:27.So powerful and dominated that race. You can see the power that she
:16:28. > :16:38.possesses. When she flies out of the blocks it is clearer to see. That is
:16:39. > :16:42.a statement as well. A very impressive performance.
:16:43. > :16:50.7.16. Upped her performance from
:16:51. > :16:53.yesterday. Good, explosive demonstration of how a 60 metres
:16:54. > :17:02.really should be run. Let's look. Bang out the blocks.
:17:03. > :17:05.Good reaction. Drives hard. The first ten metres to get the
:17:06. > :17:10.speed and then from there on in you have to think about extending your
:17:11. > :17:14.stride. What she works on is more frequency, because she's powerful
:17:15. > :17:20.and explosive, she's able to keep that frequency going more than most.
:17:21. > :17:28.It is not an easy looking style. It is all about the power. You are spot
:17:29. > :17:32.on there. That's why someone like Elaine Thompson is different. She
:17:33. > :17:38.can close this done. She's powerful and has got that good range of
:17:39. > :17:42.movement in the stride. Ponte will be very dangerous in that
:17:43. > :18:16.final, though. 7.16. That is quick.
:18:17. > :18:21.Asha Philip coming up. The athletes are in their usual position, where
:18:22. > :18:26.they get introduced to the crowd here. And if you look on paper, that
:18:27. > :18:31.first semifinal had the slower runners, so is that a good thing for
:18:32. > :18:37.Asha to be amongst people with the quicker times? I think so. She's a
:18:38. > :18:48.person that likes to get out, but you know, there the quality in the
:18:49. > :18:51.next semifinal. She will have looked at this draw and say, do you know
:18:52. > :18:57.what, I can nail this. She'll have to raise her game. She ran 7.21 in
:18:58. > :19:01.the first round. She's capable of running in the 7. 7.10s. We like to
:19:02. > :19:04.see that from her today. She's one person who is capable of getting
:19:05. > :19:10.into that final and doing really well.
:19:11. > :19:19.Well t light show is getting ready for this semifinal. But we're going
:19:20. > :19:24.to go down into the heptathlon. It is day two, and there is Ramsay and
:19:25. > :19:26.Bryant t team captain competing in this. Let's remind you of what
:19:27. > :19:42.happened on day one. The Serbian looked very slow. Bryant
:19:43. > :19:50.trying to get back. All about the time 7.05. A very quick strinter.
:19:51. > :19:55.Dudas, a very quick sprinter. Anything close to that would be a
:19:56. > :20:14.very good start for Ashley Bryant. Better on the board. That's a big
:20:15. > :20:21.jump. Well Ashley Bryant, a glance up. The boards are up in the sky,
:20:22. > :20:25.quite unusually here. It looks better on the board, doesn't it? A
:20:26. > :20:28.slight rotation. Still got a little bit of space there, but an
:20:29. > :20:31.improvement, just looking down there, he's got to not do that. Hard
:20:32. > :20:35.when you are trying to make that adjustment. It does affect your head
:20:36. > :20:44.position, that knock-on effect. And then it was on to the shot put
:20:45. > :20:49.and this is Ashley Bryant's third throw, looking to pick up a big
:20:50. > :20:54.clutch of points here. It reached 14. 57. He was fairly pleased with
:20:55. > :21:03.that. And then it was on to the high jump.
:21:04. > :21:07.He cleared 1.98 at and then unfortunately had to retire at 2.1
:21:08. > :21:10.metres, after two failures. This is how it looked after four events.
:21:11. > :21:23.He's in fourth place. You can see on the second page Liam
:21:24. > :21:28.Ramsay not having the best of times. And so the first event today was the
:21:29. > :21:42.60 metres hurdle. Out to Andrew Cotter to find out how that went.
:21:43. > :21:55.Liam Ramsay goes here. Done well Ramsay. Up to the first barrier.
:21:56. > :22:00.Pesic, a quick run. A big personal best.
:22:01. > :22:05.That is what the multi-eventers are looking for.
:22:06. > :22:10.And he's a great technician, Andrew. He may look sluggish out of the
:22:11. > :22:14.blocks. But he's a big guy. He's had so good fluency once he gets going.
:22:15. > :22:19.In the middle of the field there. Look how easy and smooth he is
:22:20. > :22:22.coming through. And Ramsay, he put himself into the equation early on.
:22:23. > :22:42.Faded at the end. Good performance from him.
:22:43. > :22:57.Mayer, in lane seven, the leader. Well, a good start. Look out for
:22:58. > :23:01.euro. -- for Urena. That equals a championship best time.
:23:02. > :23:06.That is a very, very impressive time.
:23:07. > :23:12.All first three athletes there got out very well. Setting personal
:23:13. > :23:16.bests. Hard, good aggressive high hurdling. Remember these guys are
:23:17. > :23:22.not specialists in this event. They make it look very easy this morning.
:23:23. > :23:37.Good, competitive racing and they have rewarded with fast times.
:23:38. > :23:47.This is how things stand after five events before the pole vault. Kevin
:23:48. > :23:55.Mayer a long way clear. Urena, good hurdles.
:23:56. > :23:59.Ashley Bryant hanging on in fourth. It has been hard going for Liam
:24:00. > :24:00.Ramsay, down in 14th place at the moment and the pot vault to come
:24:01. > :24:19.next. So the athletes move over to the
:24:20. > :24:25.pole vault. And I will yap ramsy, first up on
:24:26. > :24:35.the runway. The bar 4. 20, first attempt.
:24:36. > :24:45.Disappointed yesterday in the long jump. That stays with him, the
:24:46. > :24:50.accumulation of points. Not the best pole vaulter and the Brits, it has
:24:51. > :24:57.to be said, will start to haemorrhage points in this event
:24:58. > :24:59.because neither Ramsay or Bryant are proficient in heptathlon terms, as
:25:00. > :25:14.we turn attention to Ashley Bryant. Second attempt clearances at the two
:25:15. > :25:20.previous heights. Does it again. Well, he has a life-time best of
:25:21. > :25:25.4.60. He'll need all of that. He was in second place after three events.
:25:26. > :25:30.Fourth place after four events and as I say, just haemorrhaging
:25:31. > :25:35.slightly, 1.98 in that high jump. Could have done with more. The main
:25:36. > :25:39.contender, including Mayer go two metres 10. So 4. 50. Will need some
:25:40. > :25:47.more. And there are the official standings
:25:48. > :26:11.after six events. A bit misleading that. Not after six
:26:12. > :26:15.events because he's not jumped yet. The pole vault takes place. You can
:26:16. > :26:27.see on the left-hand side of your screen there. That standings will be
:26:28. > :26:32.updated. Off to their right the second semifinal.
:26:33. > :26:37.Philip will need to be on her wits here. Lisa Mayer first time under 7.
:26:38. > :26:49.. 28. Haase will be one of the contenders
:26:50. > :26:58.for the medals. Swoboda. 19 years of age, still. 7. She's electric out of
:26:59. > :27:04.the blocks. Compact, quick and Asha will have to be matching here really
:27:05. > :27:08.and trying to maintain in that last 10, 15 metres. Only the top two go
:27:09. > :27:15.through. And two fastest to the final. That
:27:16. > :27:23.final a little later on. Before the relays.
:27:24. > :27:31.The form book will tell us it is the three middle lanes, three, five and
:27:32. > :27:45.six. Two of those three, really. Asha will be disappointed if
:27:46. > :28:06.If she's not in the top two, 7.23 was the third-placed athlete in the
:28:07. > :28:08.third semifinal. So, fastest loser spots available.
:28:09. > :28:18.She doesn't want that, though. Well, rocking was Mayer, Colin has
:28:19. > :28:22.pointed to the same athlete as well. She was not set for me in her
:28:23. > :28:27.blocks. She was moving before the gun went. You have to be stationary.
:28:28. > :28:32.That is the most important thing. It is the rule. You cannot go with a
:28:33. > :28:39.roar to the gun. It will be interesting to see how they do this.
:28:40. > :28:44.Rather confusingly it has come up as Asha Philip on our screen. She's on
:28:45. > :28:50.our screen. This may not be good for Asha Philip. Now, we need to watch
:28:51. > :28:52.here. This could well be Asha Philip. She looks a little nervous
:28:53. > :29:13.and worried, doesn't she? She does. The starter may well have seen
:29:14. > :29:28.something. And indeed, Asha may have got away with one here. A sigh of
:29:29. > :29:35.relief but don't say anything... Will we have the chance to have
:29:36. > :29:45.another quick look at that? She is closest to the camera, does she just
:29:46. > :29:51.pushed back? Here we are again. Now we've got a green card. I'm
:29:52. > :29:58.apologising on behalf of the athletes because we are back to
:29:59. > :30:02.Friday now. Asha Philip came up as the reading... She looked as though
:30:03. > :30:08.she moved fractionally before everyone else. Bazolo didn't move.
:30:09. > :30:12.She was very steady. Time to refocus. This is the difficult bit,
:30:13. > :30:17.this is where the discipline comes in. We had also some technical
:30:18. > :30:25.problems on Friday with the starter equipment. Once the gun goes there's
:30:26. > :30:34.a reaction... They reset everything, it much better yesterday. I hope the
:30:35. > :30:50.gremlins haven't crept in today. Asha Philip is still there.
:30:51. > :31:01.This is much better from Asha Philip! 7.19, that is much better.
:31:02. > :31:04.Asha doesn't always do that. Sometimes the last ten minutes isn't
:31:05. > :31:10.the best bit of a race but that was really get. Mayer rocks into her
:31:11. > :31:23.start, she gets away with it. Asha Philip's time is 7.20. Not quite as
:31:24. > :31:32.quick as we saw from Povh. She knew this was going to be a tough race.
:31:33. > :31:36.She looked very relaxed indeed. Still watch Mayer the German. I'm
:31:37. > :31:47.pretty sure she's got a bit left in the tank. It's the way Asha dealt
:31:48. > :31:53.with it. It's got to fill her with a lot of confidence. These three
:31:54. > :31:58.women, wow. This is setup to be a good competitive final and I think
:31:59. > :32:10.the best German is to come in the next heat. The thing about
:32:11. > :32:16.Swoboda... She doesn't really make up the time again. She is a bit of
:32:17. > :32:19.what should want to be. We don't really care about that. I don't
:32:20. > :32:31.think she's going to make the final with that... 7.20 the winning time
:32:32. > :32:37.for Asha Philip. Swoboda who is one to watch, at the moment not the
:32:38. > :32:41.fastest losers bank at this Asha got herself at the blocks. You don't
:32:42. > :32:46.want to be relying on those times. Those margins are so small and in
:32:47. > :32:52.the 60 there is no room for mistakes. She is defined by her
:32:53. > :32:57.starts. I think she is a starter but she sometimes, I don't know whether
:32:58. > :33:00.she loses concentration in those last ten metres, she knows she has
:33:01. > :33:04.to keep working through that. She tends to get better with the rounds
:33:05. > :33:11.so fingers crossed. From what you saw there, if she can carry that
:33:12. > :33:15.through to the final, fingers crossed for the medal? Everything
:33:16. > :33:23.has to be right. She put pressure on Swoboda very early. Those sleek and
:33:24. > :33:29.I'm really quickly. Already Swoboda is under pressure for those first
:33:30. > :33:33.ten metres. She is working so hard. This is what she's going to need to
:33:34. > :33:44.do in these last few metres. She has to stay relaxed. There will be
:33:45. > :33:50.Mayer... This is what Asha does so well. She drives hard. It's that
:33:51. > :33:55.relaxation, getting those feet down early is what she's going to need to
:33:56. > :33:59.take one of those medals. Let's see what the opposition looks like from
:34:00. > :34:06.the third semifinal. It always feels odd sayings third semifinal.
:34:07. > :34:22.COMMENTATOR: It does. It doesn't make sense...
:34:23. > :34:42.The three main contenders in the semifinal. Rebekka Haase was very
:34:43. > :34:51.good yesterday. Dina Asher-Smith recovering from a foot injury.
:34:52. > :35:15.Kambundji certainly a contender here. The European junior champion
:35:16. > :35:22.four years ago, Akakpo. The finished champion will need to find a bit
:35:23. > :35:22.more to go through here. Two go through automatically anti-fastest
:35:23. > :35:43.losers over the three heats. That was a very interesting race the
:35:44. > :35:49.last race. Asha Philip ran very strongly eventually. She might have
:35:50. > :35:58.got away with it in that first running. She did register below a
:35:59. > :36:03.tenth of a second. The starts have been fascinating over the three days
:36:04. > :36:32.of competition. Kambundji is such a quick starter.
:36:33. > :36:45.A good start again by Kambundji. It is Kambundji and Haase, third place
:36:46. > :36:51.taken by Akakpo. The two automatic qualifiers were clear and distinct,
:36:52. > :36:55.Kambundji and Haase. Kambundji does what she does so well, stars
:36:56. > :36:59.beautifully. A bit like Asha Philip, this time she held on pretty well
:37:00. > :37:07.and finished the race strongly with a good time as well. It's going to
:37:08. > :37:14.be a very tight final indeed. Good competitive racing. Both Haase and
:37:15. > :37:21.Kambundji. Out of the blocks very well. They virtually ran stride for
:37:22. > :37:27.stride the whole way. She kept her form all the way through. Kambundji
:37:28. > :37:34.look very relaxed to me. Very much in control over the whole of the
:37:35. > :37:38.60-metre race. Let's have a watch of this now head on. Both of these
:37:39. > :37:41.applets seem to be running, going through their emotions but they are
:37:42. > :37:59.going through them very well indeed and are rewarded with with a 7.19.
:38:00. > :38:03.Akakpo has run 7.16 this season. She was under pressure very quickly. She
:38:04. > :38:07.didn't get out of the box as smoothly as she could have.
:38:08. > :38:15.Kambundji the winner and looking very smooth. Confirmation of that
:38:16. > :38:20.result. Those two Kambundji and Haase a long way clear of the rest.
:38:21. > :38:34.Akakpo not going through with that one. Here are the qualifiers for the
:38:35. > :38:44.final, at ten past five in the UK. Asha Philip running strongly in
:38:45. > :38:48.there, running well. STUDIO: Laura Muir's 3000 metres coming up in a
:38:49. > :38:54.few minutes time. Before we build up to that we'd like to pay tribute to
:38:55. > :38:58.an athlete who was one of the finest middle-distance runners of his
:38:59. > :39:08.generation, Derek Ibbotson who died ten years ago at 84 years old. He
:39:09. > :39:15.was a very popular athletes. Derek Ibbotson, affectionately known as
:39:16. > :39:19.Ibbo was given another nickname, the four-minute miler. Made of Yorkshire
:39:20. > :39:24.grit and grime he won an Olympic bronze medal over 5000 metres at the
:39:25. > :39:29.1956 Melbourne games. He sprung to prominence that year by winning the
:39:30. > :39:35.Helmsley Carmyle in under four minutes. The following year at White
:39:36. > :39:42.City he break the records for a mile with a time of three minutes 57.2
:39:43. > :39:46.seconds following in the steps of Roger Bannister and John Landy. He
:39:47. > :39:51.also helped the curious distinction of becoming the first man to run
:39:52. > :39:56.exactly four minutes in a mile in 1958. Literally the world's first
:39:57. > :40:01.four-minute miler. If anyone learned his legend, he did. Ibbotson passed
:40:02. > :40:10.away in a nursing home in Yorkshire aged 84. STUDIO: Lets join Steve
:40:11. > :40:16.Cram and Paula Radcliffe in the commentary box just for a word on
:40:17. > :40:19.Derek Ibbotson. The younger viewers who may not have heard too much
:40:20. > :40:25.about his career, how influential was he. He was a big part of my
:40:26. > :40:29.early life, actually. He's from Yorkshire. My coach went on and on
:40:30. > :40:34.about him. He identified with him more than Roger Bannister. When I
:40:35. > :40:38.made the Commonwealth Games team when I was 17, there was a knock on
:40:39. > :40:42.my door three days after I'd made the team, I opened my front door and
:40:43. > :40:47.Derek Ibbotson was standing on the doorstep. I couldn't believe it. He
:40:48. > :40:51.was representing a shoe company and was trying to get me to sign up. I
:40:52. > :40:56.brought in the house, dulled my coach and said, you would believe is
:40:57. > :41:01.in my front room! He came racing round to meet him. He was a real
:41:02. > :41:06.hero and an incredibly popular guy. Always funny. He was well known
:41:07. > :41:13.because he ran the big races but he also run small meets all around the
:41:14. > :41:21.UK he loved racing, he absolutely loved it. Sadly missed. I would echo
:41:22. > :41:24.that, a warm, genuine guy who clearly and obviously loved
:41:25. > :41:30.everything about running. That was the important thing, he would always
:41:31. > :41:34.be at small races and just encouraging youngsters coming
:41:35. > :41:37.through and genuinely happy. Would have been so happy to see the
:41:38. > :41:43.performance Laura Muir achieved yesterday. I think he would have
:41:44. > :41:49.loved her last few laps yesterday and love to see how making history
:41:50. > :41:54.today if she does go on and do that. Moving away from direct and into
:41:55. > :41:58.Laura specifically, what she's on the edge of here, we mentioned in
:41:59. > :42:02.the build-up to the programme, it's difficult to do a double at these
:42:03. > :42:05.championships. They are very short, to get through the heats you've got
:42:06. > :42:10.to do a lot of running around that track. You do and you've got to be
:42:11. > :42:16.very well prepared which is what Laura is, and confident. Yesterday
:42:17. > :42:29.she ran with a lot of confidence around her own ability. She went to
:42:30. > :42:32.have a game, I think she could have waited she thought why risk that,
:42:33. > :42:38.I'm better than everybody else and she was able to do that. Today she's
:42:39. > :42:42.going to be tired. Even someone as good as Laura Muir will carry a bit
:42:43. > :42:52.of that into today. It's a big task for her to come back in a distance
:42:53. > :43:00.event. The Turkish athletes is going to try and hurt her. Steph Twell and
:43:01. > :43:06.Eilish McColgan are both in this. They like a hard race, they'll want
:43:07. > :43:11.the pay is taken out. Let's see if either of those can follow Laura and
:43:12. > :43:12.get close to the rostrum from their point of view, let's hope Laura can
:43:13. > :43:33.deliver again. The only other danger is Laura's
:43:34. > :43:38.fatigue. And possibly Eilish McColgan. When she really gets it
:43:39. > :43:42.right, and we'll see how much that illness took out of her, but she is
:43:43. > :43:49.capable of walking away with a silver medal if not a bronze. Steph
:43:50. > :43:54.came in on Thursday evening and said she's enjoying the mix in her
:43:55. > :44:11.athletics life now. Local cameraman struggling who is
:44:12. > :44:18.favourite for the race. Laur will go back to studying to become a vet of
:44:19. > :44:26.course. That is pretty well known. In fact after... Actually we will
:44:27. > :44:30.talk about that in due course. Eilish is in great shape. Great
:44:31. > :44:32.first season at the 5,000 metres. The Olympic final and now following
:44:33. > :44:55.that up with a strong winter so far. There's the Laura Muir fan club.
:44:56. > :45:00.They might have picked more flattering picture of her for the
:45:01. > :45:04.mask. 3,000 metre final. 15 laps of the track. And we expect a little
:45:05. > :45:08.bit of a test here for Laura in terms of, well you would expect the
:45:09. > :45:15.athletes to think, OK she must be a little bit tired. Let's test here a
:45:16. > :45:20.little bit. I have looked out for her coach, we spotted him yesterday.
:45:21. > :45:24.I think he would have given clear instructions to Laura. They know
:45:25. > :45:31.what to expect. They know what the expect. I think Andy's inner vows
:45:32. > :45:36.today. He's starting to realise the enorty of the challenge. He knows
:45:37. > :45:41.she's run a lot and hard. She's run how she wanted to run the race
:45:42. > :45:46.yesterday. He's worried somebody might take this out. 9,000 metres in
:45:47. > :45:51.total, running over the three days. If the girls want to take it, they
:45:52. > :45:58.can test and see how tired her legs are. The fear factor she holds over
:45:59. > :46:04.them, although it's in its infancy it is approaching that level that Mo
:46:05. > :46:08.holds over the guys at 5,000, 10,000 metres.
:46:09. > :46:15.Can's only chance is to take this out hard and hope that Laura Muir's
:46:16. > :46:29.legs are tired. She's not doing it. She's sitting on her shoulder. It's
:46:30. > :46:37.coming down to Reh now to get this race moving. Triple jump under way.
:46:38. > :46:46.Misans of Latvia n the first round over 17 metres.
:46:47. > :46:51.The 27-year-old, a life-time best of 18.21.
:46:52. > :47:00.And he looks like he's laid down a marker. No-one yet beyond 17 metres.
:47:01. > :47:02.It's 17. 02 for the Latvian. That is a lifetime best. A great start for
:47:03. > :47:14.him. Well, that was a few moments ago.
:47:15. > :47:23.We're in the second round now. And it is heb heb of Germany. 17.52. A
:47:24. > :47:28.foul in the first round. Well that was a big jump. Certainly in
:47:29. > :47:31.contention but that is another foul. The German under pressure. A big
:47:32. > :47:36.favourite. One more chance to make the cut.
:47:37. > :47:41.So, then from one of the youngest to the oldest. This man Donato, one of
:47:42. > :47:48.the oldest athletes here, at 40 years of age. Olympic
:47:49. > :47:56.bronze-medallist in 2012. Oh, that's a decent effort.
:47:57. > :48:03.So, Donato, 1713. That goes into the lead. We're at the long jump. This
:48:04. > :48:08.race has hotted up. 34 second lap injection from Can. She was waiting
:48:09. > :48:22.and waiting. Now only Laura Muir trying to give chase. I'm not sure
:48:23. > :48:27.Can is good enough. Giving this a go. She's not good enough to run
:48:28. > :48:33.away. She's not quick enough. She'll keep this up for a few laps.
:48:34. > :48:40.You know, what are you going to do with someone who has run 8. 26, even
:48:41. > :48:46.though she is a little tired. That is her only hope that Laura is a
:48:47. > :48:52.little tired. Can has no way of beating Laura when she's fresh. This
:48:53. > :48:57.is her only threat to bet her. She could sit back and save a bit. She
:48:58. > :49:01.is trying to lay it all on the line. That 8.52 is a personal best. She
:49:02. > :49:07.ran it in the heat. She has more to come. Behind her it is now settled
:49:08. > :49:10.into the group of athletes who have thought, right, OK, we will race
:49:11. > :49:16.here for the bronze and let these two go. These are the two that the
:49:17. > :49:20.first two medals will go to and let them fight it out in front. Steph
:49:21. > :49:24.Twell was the best person in the field at seeing what Can was doing
:49:25. > :49:29.as she moved on and tack away the pace at the field. She decided to
:49:30. > :49:45.stay back in that pack and to track Koster.
:49:46. > :49:56.The front two settled again. They threw in another quick laps of 33.3.
:49:57. > :50:01.33 flat so, that is a quick 400 metres for 3,000-metre running. They
:50:02. > :50:05.have kind of settled again thapd gap has remained the same. Koster
:50:06. > :50:10.leading that chase for, I was going to say silver and bronze, because
:50:11. > :50:15.when Laura Muir goes past Can, it will be interesting to see whether
:50:16. > :50:19.the charge comes from behind. In the front, Can leading. Laura Muir, the
:50:20. > :50:25.gold-medallist in the 1500 metres. Full of confidence. Full of running.
:50:26. > :50:28.Full of ability and that is weighing heavily on the shoulders of the
:50:29. > :50:33.young Turkish athlete. Former Kenyan.
:50:34. > :50:37.And only two years ago, in almost exactly two years ago, given
:50:38. > :50:41.clearance to run for Turkey, March 2015. Here is the battle behind
:50:42. > :50:45.them. Koster, not really now closing. If anything they are going
:50:46. > :50:55.away again a little bit. That group. It will be better for Steph Twell in
:50:56. > :50:59.particular and for Alish. At the front they are not running super
:51:00. > :51:10.fast. They went through 5. 50 to 2,000. So
:51:11. > :51:14.kind of a 250. 830 pace, which is faster than Can has run so far.
:51:15. > :51:19.She's in territory she's not been before. She's looking to complete a
:51:20. > :51:25.hat-trick on all surfaces. She has European titles on the cross-country
:51:26. > :51:30.and the outdoor track. She's up against a formidable opponent and
:51:31. > :51:34.somebody who we cannot ever say is unbeaten, but -- unbeatable, but is
:51:35. > :51:40.bordering on the unbeatable form now. Laura Muir can take this when
:51:41. > :51:44.she wants to, I think. She will not be bothered aen clock today. Now
:51:45. > :51:48.Koster has picked it newspaper that chasing group. They are in the past
:51:49. > :51:53.part of the race where they need to make a move. Twell is leading that
:51:54. > :51:58.group. So strung out behind and that change of pace not really helping
:51:59. > :52:04.those two British athletes. We come around with 600 metres to go.
:52:05. > :52:08.Can, where she's been since about the second or third lap has another
:52:09. > :52:12.look behind. I don't know what she was expecting, but there's only one
:52:13. > :52:16.thing she's going to see and that's a very confident Laura Muir tucked
:52:17. > :52:20.in behind. Koster is closing on these two, which means that the
:52:21. > :52:23.waiting Can might make one big effort. They are coming around with
:52:24. > :52:27.two to go. I don't think Can has another big effort to make. I think
:52:28. > :52:32.the effort will come from Laura Muir when she thinks the time is right.
:52:33. > :52:38.Maybe she is clocking that Koster is closing that gap to her, much
:52:39. > :52:43.quicker than Steph Twell is able to close the gap back to Koster.
:52:44. > :52:49.McColgan starting to make inroad; they cannot make it up on marine. 3
:52:50. > :52:54.300 metres left for Laura Muir. She's not hanging around now. This
:52:55. > :53:00.is a race against the clock. Look how fast she's going. Still has a
:53:01. > :53:04.lap to go. I can tell you the championshipship record 8. 39. 49.
:53:05. > :53:11.That is definitely within reach here. She did 33 last lap T pace
:53:12. > :53:16.she's going, goodness me! Eilish McColgan has moved into fourth lace.
:53:17. > :53:21.Eilish McColgan is chasing for bronze, I can tell you. Here's Laura
:53:22. > :53:26.Muir. Less than 100 metres to go. She's already got one gold medal.
:53:27. > :53:30.She's storming away to an historic double at the European indoor
:53:31. > :53:34.championships. She's got two gold medals. She's the champion again and
:53:35. > :53:38.it is another record. The championship record has gone and
:53:39. > :53:48.Eilish McColgan is coming in for the Bronze Medal.
:53:49. > :53:56.Scotland one, Scotland three and I think Scotland five, with Steph
:53:57. > :54:03.Twell. All of the headlines and all of the mud s will belong -- and all
:54:04. > :54:09.of the plu s will belong to this young -- plaudit surks will belong
:54:10. > :54:16.to this young woman. All she then needs to do is show us what she's
:54:17. > :54:24.capable of and that last 300 metres flew around. 60.5 for the last 400
:54:25. > :54:29.metres. That is closing place for 1500. It is the sort of thing we see
:54:30. > :54:36.the Ethiopians do. This is Laura Muir. This is Laura Muir of Great
:54:37. > :54:42.Britain, running in a way in which we have rarely seen and running to a
:54:43. > :54:48.double title, double gold medal. Brilliant! She didn't even kick for
:54:49. > :54:53.that last 400 metres. She didn't go until about 350. It just shows the
:54:54. > :54:58.shape she's in and the confidence that this championship has given her
:54:59. > :55:02.on top of the season so far. All of the records she set. She knew she
:55:03. > :55:05.could time trial. To come in and win the championships and win them by
:55:06. > :55:09.playing to her strengths. Of course she's tired. She will be really
:55:10. > :55:14.tired now. This will take her a little bit to recover from, but it
:55:15. > :55:17.will also give her a huge boost training-wise. Psychologically as
:55:18. > :55:21.well moving into the race this season. As it will Eilish McColgan
:55:22. > :55:26.further back. I am going to say here if Eilish had committed earlier in
:55:27. > :55:29.that race, I think she could have even got the silver medal from that
:55:30. > :55:33.race there today. She didn't commit early enough for me. She's still
:55:34. > :55:37.learning the distance. She 's still learning about the events and she's
:55:38. > :55:43.saving too much for the last laps. You have to do it in steple chase,
:55:44. > :55:49.but not the flat races. Two championship records. Two, not
:55:50. > :55:52.personal bests, because she ran so fast, but exceptional performances
:55:53. > :56:07.and the medals which mean so much to her. I had a little check
:56:08. > :56:15.The gritted teeth, that is what people like about Laura. Wind her up
:56:16. > :56:21.and away she goes! She's suited to indoor and brilliant outdoors.
:56:22. > :56:28.4. 12 for the Second XV 00 metres. Not many were running more than 4.
:56:29. > :56:34.12 for the race. Great to watch and what a
:56:35. > :56:39.performance. What an achievement. Two gold medals, with heats, the
:56:40. > :56:45.last time it was done, there was no heats in the 3,000 metres. Run 45
:56:46. > :56:51.laps of this track. The last one might have been her fastest. Two
:56:52. > :56:54.gold medals for Laura Muir. Who knows, I said, I think when we were
:56:55. > :57:01.in Birmingham, who knows what the summer can bring. She'll attempt the
:57:02. > :57:04.two, bonus and 5,000. If she says in this shape, keeps going, she's got
:57:05. > :57:18.every chance. So the stats. A new championship
:57:19. > :57:25.record. Not a personal best, of course.
:57:26. > :57:32.Can, a new national record for her. Eilish McColgan waited and waited
:57:33. > :57:38.and rewarded with a bronze. And Steph Twell, in fifth. There are our
:57:39. > :57:42.two British and Scottish medallists. They are with Phil.
:57:43. > :57:48.Well, the pride of Scotland. Two medals to take home and a double for
:57:49. > :57:53.you Laura. An achievement. Another championship record as well. Can you
:57:54. > :57:58.put it into words for us? I don't know if I can. I tried to hang in
:57:59. > :58:02.there and I was feeling a bit tired. I am glad I came away and did that
:58:03. > :58:07.one today. What was the plan at the outset? Did it go according to plan?
:58:08. > :58:13.I thought it was in the interests to take it out, that went well. I
:58:14. > :58:18.tagged on to her and used speed at the end and crossed that line. And
:58:19. > :58:22.behind Laura, not quite according to plan from what you were telling me,
:58:23. > :58:26.but you fought so hard. You were determined to take that medal? I
:58:27. > :58:30.think I have a way of making things really difficult for myself. I don't
:58:31. > :58:33.know if it is experience. Obviously I come from steeplechase and it is
:58:34. > :58:37.different. Everyone has their own speeds because you try and clear the
:58:38. > :58:41.barriers. In the indoors there's no space. I don't have a clue what
:58:42. > :58:45.happened there today. I saw the third place... It is difficult when
:58:46. > :58:49.you know there is someone like Laura and she's so much better than the
:58:50. > :58:52.rest of us. I knew it would be quick from the start, just to try and hang
:58:53. > :58:57.on as much as I could. I know I am really strong at the moment. I knew
:58:58. > :59:03.my strength would come in. My mum and dad, boyfriend will be going
:59:04. > :59:09.crazy. So, yeah... I am happy it is a medal. I came here. I had the
:59:10. > :59:14.bronze in my mind the whole time. I new gold was gone. Silver, I was not
:59:15. > :59:19.sure how the Turkish girl would do. She's a great runner herself. I
:59:20. > :59:24.think, my ranking was third and I came third today I am over the moon.
:59:25. > :59:29.It is my first medal. I am chuffed. I don't think your mum ever got an
:59:30. > :59:32.indoor medal. She will be proud of you for that. She will ring up the
:59:33. > :59:43.BBC and say, I did! Laura, you are achieving record upon
:59:44. > :59:47.record, building towards London and the World Championships. You have an
:59:48. > :59:53.aura around you almost like Mo Farah. Do you sense that yourself? I
:59:54. > :00:02.don't know, I just run as best as I can. It was great to see Eilish
:00:03. > :00:09.cross the line. The depth we've got just now is brilliant. A big thank
:00:10. > :00:13.you to everyone back at home. What's making you the darling of people
:00:14. > :00:18.back at home is this modesty you are showing. You are doing incredible
:00:19. > :00:23.things but just so level-headed. I just love running. That's how I
:00:24. > :00:30.think I can run so quick because I can dedicate myself to it so easily.
:00:31. > :00:34.I love my sport. Congratulations on a fantastic double. Only Colin
:00:35. > :00:39.Jackson has 12 medals at one championship. In individual events
:00:40. > :00:42.you're the second person. It's great. Congratulations on the gold
:00:43. > :00:51.and the bronze. The pride of Scotland, well done. STUDIO:
:00:52. > :00:58.Wonderful scenes and signalling how relaxed Laura Muir is and how in
:00:59. > :01:03.breath she is. She just makes it look so easy and that is the mark of
:01:04. > :01:07.greatness, how easy you make it look and we shouldn't underestimate or
:01:08. > :01:09.take anything away from how historic that bubble is. That puts Great
:01:10. > :01:20.Britain top of the pops. We may not end up on the top but it
:01:21. > :01:27.feels pretty good right now for those girls. A word about Eilish
:01:28. > :01:30.McColgan who was predominantly a steeplechase and decided with the
:01:31. > :01:34.injuries she was getting it was too much to keep going over those
:01:35. > :01:39.hurdles, she just focused on the flat and this is the first season
:01:40. > :01:44.she's had a chance to do that. It's looking like a smart decision. Her
:01:45. > :01:49.body dictated it. She couldn't keep going. She was spending more time in
:01:50. > :01:54.50 oh than training. Having got a good winter behind her, to come out
:01:55. > :02:02.and gets her first medal, I'm so delighted for her. A couple of years
:02:03. > :02:06.ago I spoke to her and she was a bit despondent. She wasn't sure what
:02:07. > :02:09.direction she was going in. To get her first European medal is
:02:10. > :02:14.fantastic and I hope it's the start of good things to come. And for
:02:15. > :02:17.Laura Muir, to come here to Belgrade with the expectation that everybody
:02:18. > :02:26.had that those gold medals were hers for the taking, because of the time
:02:27. > :02:29.she posted. In that respect should put a marker down but you've still
:02:30. > :02:36.got to deliver, you've still got to run all those laps for three days.
:02:37. > :02:44.Eulogising about Laura but when you're an athletes, as confident as
:02:45. > :02:49.she is, so in the moment, she wasn't going to settle for just winning
:02:50. > :02:53.today. This is a new Laura we are witnessing. A couple of years ago
:02:54. > :02:59.she was in tears wondering why she was making these mistakes but look
:03:00. > :03:03.at this running. It's sensational. The strength, the power, the
:03:04. > :03:09.endurance, the confidence. Phil make the analogy with Mo Farah. It feels
:03:10. > :03:15.as he's in his season on the track that where there a vacuum, somebody
:03:16. > :03:20.feels that space. And now we have this fantastic female
:03:21. > :03:26.middle-distance runner who is coming into the promised she showed us a
:03:27. > :03:31.kid. But aura, it's not something that's just intangible, it is a real
:03:32. > :03:35.thing, that athletes get intimidated by people who keep winning and it's
:03:36. > :03:40.hard to find a way past someone who can produce a 62nd last 400 metres.
:03:41. > :03:52.It's the manner in which she's winning. She has no fear and she
:03:53. > :03:56.trusts her ability that much. The clock in training doesn't lie. She
:03:57. > :03:59.has an appetite for training like no other. You made the really good
:04:00. > :04:08.point about the fact that we talked about the Mo Farah error, Greg and
:04:09. > :04:15.Jess, Jess retiring, he would be the next person to take the mantle of
:04:16. > :04:22.the British Queen of athletics and Laura is. She's at the vanguard of
:04:23. > :04:29.some exciting young athletes. She has certainly moved seamlessly, we
:04:30. > :04:34.don't see the hard hours, the sweat and the sessions she is doing to get
:04:35. > :04:38.here. Now she is on the stage, and this year with London hosting the
:04:39. > :04:44.World Athletics Championships, what a marvellous opportunity she has.
:04:45. > :04:51.British athletics has a great ambassador in Laura. The investment
:04:52. > :04:57.in Scottish athletics is fantastic. We need more young women saying, OK,
:04:58. > :05:05.Laura can do it. She started in athletics pretty late but now she's
:05:06. > :05:09.dovetailing a great career. It's a vocation, she is passionate about
:05:10. > :05:15.animals and running and combining the two. Very successfully. It feels
:05:16. > :05:18.like a joy to witness her at the vanguard of something really
:05:19. > :05:21.special. You may have seen the lights flashing and the music and
:05:22. > :05:27.that was the introduction of the men for the hijab competition. Is that
:05:28. > :05:33.Robbie Grabarz down there? It is indeed. -- the high jump
:05:34. > :05:40.competition. He is the world indoor silver-medallist. He is a man who
:05:41. > :05:44.can pull out the big jumps on the big stage so expect something from
:05:45. > :05:49.him today. Let's go to Steve Backley for the triple jump. COMMENTATOR: No
:05:50. > :06:00.Brits unfortunately in the triple jump. This man on two fouls. He has
:06:01. > :06:09.to get a valid jump in excess of 16 70 to continue his efforts to claim
:06:10. > :06:19.the title. If it's a white flag it will get in three further jumps. It
:06:20. > :06:22.is. Max Hess showing some decent composure there. Massive and
:06:23. > :06:32.qualifications. A new German indoor record. Plenty of room to spare. He
:06:33. > :06:50.looks pretty relaxed. Certainly be a contender, the leader at the moment.
:06:51. > :06:54.Hess goes into second place. This man is the defending indoor
:06:55. > :07:02.champion, the Olympic champion from 2008. Third-round jump. That's going
:07:03. > :07:16.to be very close for the Leeds said Evora. -- very close for the lead,
:07:17. > :07:21.for Evora. Donato Is 40 years of age, the older men doing well,
:07:22. > :07:30.keeping the youngsters that Bay for now. The orange bib denoting the
:07:31. > :07:41.champion two years ago. This is to challenge for the lead ahead of
:07:42. > :07:51.Donato. 'S best, 17.20. -- the season's best 17.20. This goes
:07:52. > :07:52.clear. He is compiling a very impressive couple of days of
:07:53. > :08:14.heptathlon scoring. Maybe an outside chance of a medal
:08:15. > :08:25.for Dudas. Great support from the crowds... Could he medal? That would
:08:26. > :08:32.be really impressive. Just the 1000 metres to come. From the high
:08:33. > :08:35.excitement of the women's 3000 metres, we are talking about a
:08:36. > :08:40.silver medal. They may have a gold in the men's. This is how they line
:08:41. > :09:33.up. Not running particularly well at the
:09:34. > :09:38.moment despite being the defending champion. He didn't look that
:09:39. > :09:42.convincing in his heat, made the classic error of going out far too
:09:43. > :09:52.fast. We wonder how he's going to run today. The young Italian has
:09:53. > :09:58.looked good in cross country in recent years and was strong in
:09:59. > :10:00.qualifying as well. Disappointing for his younger brother who failed
:10:01. > :10:28.to qualify. Mechaal may be a threat, I suppose
:10:29. > :10:31.the favourite would be Aras Kaya. It depends how it's run and will get a
:10:32. > :10:47.good idea of that in the first few laps.
:10:48. > :11:13.Sometimes these 3000 metres end up in 800-metre burn-outs at the end.
:11:14. > :11:21.Generally if you see an Italian at the front it's not too quick. They
:11:22. > :11:30.are known for finishing fast. He's picked it up a tiny bit but nothing
:11:31. > :11:33.that's going to do any damage. Ingebrigtsen will be wanting to turn
:11:34. > :11:41.it into a fair insurance rates but to have enough in his legs. He is
:11:42. > :11:48.dangerous in a slower race. Other athletes tend to come into it if the
:11:49. > :11:54.pace goes slow. Ingebrigtsen is trying to keep it at a slower pace.
:11:55. > :11:59.He has that great former European champion pedigree. Inviting anybody
:12:00. > :12:11.to come past but hoping they don't, because he has that great speed
:12:12. > :12:15.right at the end. At the moment it is Kaya in sixth place. The high
:12:16. > :12:37.jump continues. Just waiting for Robbie Grabarz and
:12:38. > :12:48.Allan Smith, the Brits, to join the competition. Early heights here,
:12:49. > :12:56.2.18, a good start for the Italians. Medal chances certainly in this high
:12:57. > :13:06.jump final. Allan Smith out in lane two using all the wit he can. A
:13:07. > :13:15.slightly pursed lip licking may be to relax off into his approach. Good
:13:16. > :13:18.start. Such an important jump. The height not world beating but just to
:13:19. > :13:26.settle the nerves, get a good clearance. He's off the mark and
:13:27. > :13:32.Allan Smith is clear at the opening height of 2.18. Ten laps to go, two
:13:33. > :13:40.dozen metres remaining. It's still pretty tightly packed together
:13:41. > :13:47.because the pace isn't too quick. 2.50 through the first 1000 metres.
:13:48. > :13:52.This race is obviously going to hot up and these guys are playing a cat
:13:53. > :13:55.and mouse game. It is moving but it's not doing any damage to anybody
:13:56. > :14:00.which is why the whole field is still together and people who should
:14:01. > :14:09.be a danger in this race are still sitting a long way back.
:14:10. > :14:19.Kayas causing trouble there. . The taller figure of the two Turkish
:14:20. > :14:28.figgers there, Aras Kaya squeezing past Mechaal. It may be these two
:14:29. > :14:38.takes it on. The defending champion is not in vintage form. He sits
:14:39. > :14:49.there beside Aras Kaya. He might move his way past the
:14:50. > :14:54.Italian. It is the two Kayas. Aras, with a couple of laps to go,
:14:55. > :15:05.he decided to make his move. He looks comfortable. The pace is not
:15:06. > :15:13.swift. Iningetting into a good position in -- Ibrahimov in a good
:15:14. > :15:17.position as well. Ingebrigtsen, with that foot injury
:15:18. > :15:21.and he's building back from that. At his very best, he is a danger. He
:15:22. > :15:26.would expect to come in and challenge for this race. His younger
:15:27. > :15:30.brother, Phillip, did not look so good in the 1500 metres. He's
:15:31. > :15:40.looking better today. On to the shoulder of Ali Kaya. Not
:15:41. > :15:54.doing anything to help, though. 12 athletes separated by ten metres or
:15:55. > :15:58.so. The third Turk in the field, Ozdemir.
:15:59. > :16:10.Mechaal there behind them, the Spaniard.
:16:11. > :16:22.The Swedish athlete anderesson moves into motion.
:16:23. > :16:28.A lot of bumping and barging going on now. This is when the race gets
:16:29. > :16:36.dangerous. I watched young Crippa moving around the outside, get
:16:37. > :16:39.pushed wide. A lot of shoving around. The athletes have to watch
:16:40. > :16:42.where they put their feet and try and stay out of trouble, whilst
:16:43. > :16:46.thinking about making their moves. Into the final 800 metres we go.
:16:47. > :17:05.Ring ring out in front. -- Ringer out in front.
:17:06. > :17:08.Razine has been in all sorts of jostling and bumping, trying to go
:17:09. > :17:11.through a gap that wasn't there. Now he's on the outside getting into a
:17:12. > :17:18.better position. Razine making his move.
:17:19. > :17:23.Ingebrigtsen in fourth place. The pace is picking up. Nothing suddenly
:17:24. > :17:26.shocking the pace. A gradual wind up.
:17:27. > :17:33.It is getting quicker and you can see that by the way the field is
:17:34. > :17:38.stringing out behind. The tosh athletes do not look to be a force
:17:39. > :17:43.now. Ringer still leading them around.
:17:44. > :17:45.Mechaal looking to his outside. Razine on the inside. Ininthere as
:17:46. > :18:00.well. The pace continues to lift. And we
:18:01. > :18:07.have a race on our hands now. And Richard Ringer giving himself the
:18:08. > :18:10.best chance for a pace now. At the moment Mechaal, although an anxious
:18:11. > :18:18.look over his shoulder, was looking the strongest. He kicks hard.
:18:19. > :18:20.Ingebrigtsen looks strong. Ringer has done so much of the hard
:18:21. > :18:33.work. Ingebrigtsen digs in. Mechaal grits
:18:34. > :18:37.his teeth and goes again. Ingebrigtsen, what does he have
:18:38. > :18:43.left? Mechaal looking around. He's going to take it and Mechaal, with a
:18:44. > :18:55.clench of the fist. Ringer hangs on for bronze.
:18:56. > :19:01.Richard Ringer took it on. Mechaal, he was the strongest and the
:19:02. > :19:06.Spaniard wins the gold and wins it well. Ingebrigtsen couldn't get back
:19:07. > :19:11.to him. A very, very well judged race there
:19:12. > :19:14.by Mechaal. I think you have to say that Richard Ringer earned that
:19:15. > :19:19.Bronze Medal. He worked hard for that. He did the work to break that
:19:20. > :19:24.race apart. Mechaal down the home straight. Anicous look over his
:19:25. > :19:29.shoulder. I think with one lap to go. It was Anicous look around. He
:19:30. > :19:34.knew if Ingebrigtsen was at his best he was the biggest danger there.
:19:35. > :19:39.Maybe a shade disappointed not to have won that. He will be happy with
:19:40. > :19:45.that silver medal, too. And a Mechaal gold meed until the men's
:19:46. > :19:55.3,000 metres. -- medal in the men's 3,000 metres.
:19:56. > :20:00.The back of the triple jump. Heb became the youngest ever outdoor
:20:01. > :20:05.champion. Only had one valid jump here in the third round, which is in
:20:06. > :20:11.third place. Last chance to grasp the gold. We
:20:12. > :20:18.know he's capable of it. No. Well, that is an upset. Hess,
:20:19. > :20:23.17. 52 in qualifying. Couldn't repeat that kind of form in the
:20:24. > :20:28.final. Has to settle for third. 16. . 57. That has popped up on the
:20:29. > :20:37.computer. Nowhere near the timing we saw him have yesterday. Max Hess,
:20:38. > :20:41.oh, he's not on it today, is he? You can see he realises that halfway
:20:42. > :20:48.through that effort. Disappointment in a way. But a
:20:49. > :20:53.Bronze Medal, at 20 n the European indoor championships may be
:20:54. > :20:58.something to cherish. He would have learned lots. So it is over to the
:20:59. > :21:05.two older men. We saw them jump earlier.
:21:06. > :21:10.Hess spikes off. He's done, he's had his sixth and final jump. Only two
:21:11. > :21:20.athletes remain. The gold medal not decided just yet. Yet Danato is up
:21:21. > :21:29.next. Olympic bronze in 2012. 40 years old! Quite impressive.
:21:30. > :21:33.Coach, Andrew Howell, he's a better jumper than the coach nowadays. It
:21:34. > :21:43.would seem last chance to improve silver to gold. Nom No! Not quite
:21:44. > :21:48.the climax we hoped for, but Donato looks pretty pleased with that. So
:21:49. > :21:52.he should be. 16 times Italian champion - that's got to be some
:21:53. > :22:02.sort of a record. Possibly the age between silver and bronze of 20
:22:03. > :22:05.years might be a record as well. Looks like he's handed victory to
:22:06. > :22:14.the man who took the approach behind him. Donato taking some applause.
:22:15. > :22:24.Silver. No improvement in the last round.
:22:25. > :22:28.Donato, no improvement means that Evora is the champion once again.
:22:29. > :22:36.Successful defence. 32 years old himself.
:22:37. > :22:40.What can he do in the last round? Doesn't need to do any more to take
:22:41. > :22:52.the gold, but clearly optimistic. Good extension. Similar effort
:22:53. > :22:54.around the 17-metre mark. Well, Evora, just seven centimetres
:22:55. > :23:15.ahead of Donato. Look what it means to him - another
:23:16. > :23:20.gold for his collection. So impressive when it comes to the
:23:21. > :23:23.chance. Congratulations to Hess and Evora, successful defence of his
:23:24. > :23:35.European title. There are the three medal winners,
:23:36. > :23:43.Ringer, on the right for Germany, who took bronzed at the 5,000 metres
:23:44. > :23:44.outdoors last summer. Ingebrigtsen and Mechaal, of Spain,
:23:45. > :23:57.the champion. Mechaal with the gold and
:23:58. > :24:08.Ingebrigtsen with the silver and Richard Ringer, the bronze.
:24:09. > :24:12.Now then, Robbie Grabarz, talk about medal collections, he's got an
:24:13. > :24:20.impressive one of his own - world indoors last year. Impressive 2. 23.
:24:21. > :24:24.Goes clear comfortably. What a great start to this high jump final.
:24:25. > :24:32.Looked great yesterday in qualifiation. I know Tony watching
:24:33. > :24:37.that closely, he knows a thing or two about jumps. What did you see?
:24:38. > :24:42.It was difficult for Robbie. The Polish athlete his run-up is on the
:24:43. > :24:45.outside. He asked the officials if they could suspend the competition
:24:46. > :24:50.while the 3,000 metres was on. Robbie was ready to jump. They had
:24:51. > :24:57.to sit down and wait until the end of the 3,000 metres. Sorry to cut
:24:58. > :25:04.in. Alan Smith, behind you, he's just, as you can see over your left
:25:05. > :25:10.shoulder, just knocking the bar off. Did you get to take that in? He was
:25:11. > :25:16.close. His inside shoulder, tucks it in. He did not block and get enough
:25:17. > :25:20.elevation. Just carrying too much speed across the foot, too long
:25:21. > :25:28.across the bar. Nice and smooth at 2. 18. . Hopefully he should get
:25:29. > :25:31.this height. So, no casualties yet. Eight finalists, including two
:25:32. > :25:37.Brits, Grabarz and Smith, both into the competition.
:25:38. > :25:52.The German jumps have gone very well at these championships.
:25:53. > :25:59.Looking good at 2. 23. Profblly not a height that will put
:26:00. > :26:06.anyone in contention for medals. That's likely to be around the
:26:07. > :26:13.2.28-sorry 2. 27, is it, is the actual height they will go after
:26:14. > :26:21.this, 2. 23 and then it will go 2.30 before 2.32. If we need it.
:26:22. > :26:28.Second time clearance there for the German.
:26:29. > :26:38.Ches aurks ni looking to match that -- Chesani looking to match that,
:26:39. > :26:43.and he does. 2. 28 he cleared yesterday. He's a 2.33 jumper. When
:26:44. > :26:50.he gets that right. He did that four years ago. One to watch out for.
:26:51. > :26:54.The athletes, as ever, go across to the coaches, get a little bit of
:26:55. > :26:56.advice on their run-ups. Where their feet are. Make some
:26:57. > :27:11.adjustments. Allan Smith has been very consistent
:27:12. > :27:17.this year. 2. . 25-plus on a number of occasions. 2. 26, his best so far
:27:18. > :27:23.this year. 2. 25 yesterday. So, 2. 23. Second attempt.
:27:24. > :27:33.No! Well, two fouls. He'll have one more chance to go clear.
:27:34. > :27:39.The point was made yesterday with regards to Morgan Lake, they are
:27:40. > :27:45.having problems coming from that left-hand side. There is so much to
:27:46. > :27:50.cram in. And this man has crammed in a few golds so far in his young
:27:51. > :27:56.indoor career, because this is the third major championship gold. His
:27:57. > :28:00.second European indoor, Richard Kilty. He was so emotional
:28:01. > :28:05.yesterday. His family, his son, the people of Teesside. I mean, he was
:28:06. > :28:10.just, he was gushing... And it means so much to him. It does mean a lot
:28:11. > :28:15.to this young man. When you defend a title, it is tough enough. The way
:28:16. > :28:19.he's come to do this, for me it is pleasing for him. He's a very good
:28:20. > :28:24.sprinter. Sometimes we forget how good he is. He's winning medals for
:28:25. > :28:28.this country, gold medals for this country over that great distance. We
:28:29. > :28:32.have to hail him as a true champion and not forget what he's achieving.
:28:33. > :28:36.He's excitable. That is what you need, people who are honest about
:28:37. > :28:42.their sport. He pulls no punches when he talks. He's given a very
:28:43. > :28:47.frank assessment himself, where he is and what he's doing. He's a good
:28:48. > :28:52.ambassador for the sport. He wears his heart on his sleeve. He's
:28:53. > :28:56.invested a lot of time, as all these athletes do. They are dependant on
:28:57. > :29:00.their funding, making ends meet. This is not a rich sported. It
:29:01. > :29:04.really isn't. So, they take it seriously. So, to come away with
:29:05. > :29:10.another gold medal, he'll be looking, OK, I know I'm good enough,
:29:11. > :29:16.I know I'm good enough, I take to take this outdoors, because he's
:29:17. > :29:19.ambitious. Sometimes he wants it too much. But this is a great platform
:29:20. > :29:26.for Hopefully he will take this form and
:29:27. > :29:29.move it on outside. And Steve Cram can talk you through his medal
:29:30. > :29:38.ceremony. There were three Swedes in the
:29:39. > :29:50.final, Austin Hamilton beat his team-mate by two thousand of a
:29:51. > :29:52.second. For the third time in three years, Richard Kilty takes the gold
:29:53. > :30:37.medal in the 60 metres. APPLAUSE
:30:38. > :30:42.I'm sure there were celebrations in Middlesbrough last night. A big hero
:30:43. > :30:46.back in that part of the world and for the British team, leading by
:30:47. > :30:54.example once more. Three tough races yesterday but coming out on top.
:30:55. > :31:05.Andy Robinson with a false start. Richard Kilty came out victorious.
:31:06. > :31:13.STUDIO: In some ways, outdoors there have been a lot above him in terms
:31:14. > :31:24.of British Championships and the attention has been on the likes of
:31:25. > :31:31.Adam Jimmy -- Adam Jameli. Is there any advice you can offer him to
:31:32. > :31:36.help? For him to stay healthy. It is so healthy that we keep very
:31:37. > :31:44.healthy. That will be the most important thing. This young man is
:31:45. > :31:50.under a bit of pressure. He is. Allan Smith with the last chance to
:31:51. > :31:59.stay in this high jump final. No! Well, he will be desperately
:32:00. > :32:07.disappointed with that. He has cleared 2.23 in all but one of his
:32:08. > :32:13.competitions so far this year. Tony, I know you've been watching that
:32:14. > :32:16.closely. What are you thinking? Well, he made an adjustment and
:32:17. > :32:21.moved his run-up back which would have kept him away from the bar but
:32:22. > :32:27.still, the inside shoulder goes in. He should have clipped it off more
:32:28. > :32:30.with his left hand as he rotated in. Difficult to see but for me that
:32:31. > :32:35.little rotation and drops the shoulder and goes in instead of
:32:36. > :32:42.stretching and going up that little bit. Really unfortunate. 2.23 is
:32:43. > :32:47.about what he's been jumping. It's been a long indoor season for the
:32:48. > :32:53.lads. A bit unfortunate, possibly should have had that type and he'll
:32:54. > :32:59.be a bit upset by that I suspect. End of Allan Smith's chances. Robbie
:33:00. > :33:08.Grabarz still the British interest, how is he looking? Robbie's licking
:33:09. > :33:17.goods. First-time clearance at 2.23. Probably the medals will be run with
:33:18. > :33:24.a first-time clearance at 2.30. I think he's in with a shot at a
:33:25. > :33:35.medal. Some unusual preparation from Robbie, waking himself up as we turn
:33:36. > :33:45.our attention to Bednarek. That was a mess. Bednarek of Poland 's. He
:33:46. > :33:49.has done 2.33 this year. We were watching this closely and we had him
:33:50. > :34:02.down as one of the main contenders. He made a hash of that.
:34:03. > :34:22.Across the other side, Dudas in this heptathlon pole vault. He goes
:34:23. > :34:27.clear. Wow. He's only ever had a best of 4.82, that's what the home
:34:28. > :34:30.advantage does. We're looking at the predicted scores across these last
:34:31. > :34:38.couple of events, he has a chance of getting on the rostrum, I'm sure the
:34:39. > :34:50.crowds here in busy winning's final session, they are going to shout him
:34:51. > :34:59.round in the 1000 metres. A lifetime best for Dudas. Massive noise around
:35:00. > :35:06.the stadium. Robbie Grabarz will welcome that. All of a sudden the
:35:07. > :35:10.place feels more important than it did a few moments ago because of the
:35:11. > :35:19.noise that goes through you down there, track-side. Attention turns
:35:20. > :35:28.to Robbie Grabarz. Clearance at 2.23. Silver medal last year in the
:35:29. > :35:34.indoors, bronze in the Olympics in 2012, European champion in 2012
:35:35. > :35:45.outdoors. Had an appendix problem earlier this year. Robbie Grabarz
:35:46. > :35:52.steps out with the bar is set at 2.27. Yes! Robbie Grabarz, very
:35:53. > :36:06.goods. White is proud to suggest he knew he'd given it the slightest of
:36:07. > :36:12.wobbles. Good stuff, Robbie. He is staying. Toni Minichiello, what did
:36:13. > :36:16.you make of that? That's a good first-time clearance. It might prove
:36:17. > :36:20.really important later on in the competition. It certainly puts him
:36:21. > :36:35.in the driving seat. There's a view other people jumping clean and they
:36:36. > :36:43.are yet to take attempts. We saw Bednarek make a mess of that height.
:36:44. > :36:51.This is Bubenik of the Slovak Republic.
:36:52. > :37:03.He may have hurt himself over that, possibly. Mix in slight discomfort,
:37:04. > :37:07.there. This is a crucial height, first-time clearance for Robbie a
:37:08. > :37:15.few moments ago puts him in good stead but a foul for Bubenik. But
:37:16. > :37:22.high jump is looking good at the moment. I'm not biased but come on
:37:23. > :37:25.Robbie I need that fifth gold medal for my predictions. And what about
:37:26. > :37:34.Shelayna Oskan-Clarke, what about her chances in the first of two 800
:37:35. > :37:40.metre finals. This is an open race. We have the defending champion in
:37:41. > :37:48.this, I'm not sure she's right on top form. This is the full start
:37:49. > :38:24.list. Jenny Meadows is a crowned indoor
:38:25. > :38:27.European champion from 2011. Shelayna Oskan-Clarke with a real
:38:28. > :38:31.opportunity, really struggled with her first two or three races of the
:38:32. > :38:37.season. A very good training camp for her in South Africa. Came home
:38:38. > :38:41.expecting to commit to the season but she's warmed up nicely towards
:38:42. > :38:45.these championships, has been improving and is in the final. To
:38:46. > :38:52.get in the final you've got a great opportunity. She will have beaten
:38:53. > :38:59.all of these women at some point in her career but right now that time,
:39:00. > :39:05.forget the times of the athletes, it's going to be a bit tactical.
:39:06. > :39:15.Sometimes Shelayna likes to front run, but here is a committed front
:39:16. > :39:19.runner. Hinriksdottir has got a bit more weaponry these days but her
:39:20. > :39:24.natural game is to get out in front and lead it and make it hard. Selina
:39:25. > :39:28.Buchel will not do that, she'll try and get herself in a good position
:39:29. > :39:39.and try and dominate in the last hundred metres. The defending
:39:40. > :39:52.champion from Switzerland. Could this young lady beat a threat,
:39:53. > :40:05.Troest. In the slow race she's always going to be dangerous.
:40:06. > :40:18.Barrera is strong, she brings a strength. -- Guerrero. Can Great
:40:19. > :40:23.Britain find another medal here? Now the women's 800-metre final.
:40:24. > :40:33.Hinriksdottir just took a little back step.
:40:34. > :40:40.A bit of a surprise to see the defending champion taking this out.
:40:41. > :40:43.Perhaps this will be good for Shelayna Oskan-Clarke. Buchel
:40:44. > :40:53.thinking she can run sub two minutes, I'm not sure everyone else
:40:54. > :40:56.can. I wonder if Buchel hasn't been 100% coming into these
:40:57. > :41:02.championships. She looks better today and has attacked this race.
:41:03. > :41:08.Hinriksdottir has resorted back to the tactics she used in the heats
:41:09. > :41:13.which worked better for her. For a lot of these women, note decisions
:41:14. > :41:18.to make. It's following Buchel. Coming round to 400 metres, halfway.
:41:19. > :41:29.Shelayna Oskan-Clarke in a great position. Heading for something a
:41:30. > :41:32.little bit better... Who's got the legs here? Hinriksdottir can't get
:41:33. > :41:42.up to the front because Buchel is keeping the pressure on. Shelayna
:41:43. > :41:48.managed to move clear and has kept herself out of trouble so far and
:41:49. > :41:56.run a very good race. Shelayna Oskan-Clarke has just got to time it
:41:57. > :42:00.right. Buchel holds her. Shelayna giving her an elbow... Let's hope
:42:01. > :42:06.she's not affected, she still hanging onto the defending champion.
:42:07. > :42:12.Hinriksdottir trying to give chase. Now, 50 metres to go. Shelayna
:42:13. > :42:18.Oskan-Clarke on the shoulder of Buchel, here she comes, can Buchel
:42:19. > :42:28.hold her off? Is she going to get there? Oh! Two metres out it was
:42:29. > :42:34.Buchel, one metre out it was Buchel. But I can't call this. This is as
:42:35. > :42:41.close to a dead heat as I've seen. I'm not going to call this because
:42:42. > :42:49.Shelayna Oskan-Clarke in the last stride might just have stolen Nat.
:42:50. > :43:01.We are a bit biased. It's been given to Buchel. By one hundredth of a
:43:02. > :43:08.second. She was so close, none of us knew, even she didn't know. There
:43:09. > :43:17.were a few elbows and some pushing and shoving. You wonder if Shelayna
:43:18. > :43:21.had waited at the Bell, but what's an effort from Shelayna
:43:22. > :43:26.Oskan-Clarke. She's run a huge personal best. For me that looks as
:43:27. > :43:30.though she just got that on the line. We aren't at the same angle
:43:31. > :43:40.they will have at the photo finish but that looks a lot closer than one
:43:41. > :43:45.hundredth. She's used those shoulders to good avail because she
:43:46. > :43:49.gave a few hard shoulders to Shelayna Oskan-Clarke on that final
:43:50. > :43:54.lap. Maybe its experience, maybe as a bit of extra confidence, the
:43:55. > :43:59.defending champion maybe had a bit of a mental edge over that final 100
:44:00. > :44:03.metres but Shelayna Oskan-Clarke did nothing wrong.
:44:04. > :44:09.You have to get in front of the athlete. You cannot really do that.
:44:10. > :44:13.She never got in front of her, Buchel fought for that insideline
:44:14. > :44:19.and held it. To be fair, the two of them were scrapping, going for the
:44:20. > :44:24.gold medal here. I wonder if she was impatient at that point? She was.
:44:25. > :44:27.She showed a little bit of inexperience racing indoors, in
:44:28. > :44:31.particular. She wanted it a little bit too much, too early, with 200
:44:32. > :44:40.metres to go. Neither did anything wrong. She could have swung wide
:44:41. > :44:45.earlier in that final 50 metres and been able to come tlusmt and maybe
:44:46. > :44:49.get there on the line. I think she gave it everything she had. She ran
:44:50. > :44:56.her best race there. It wasn't quite enough.
:44:57. > :45:09.Watch here with your stride. Because you can see Buchel starts to lean
:45:10. > :45:14.forward. It just works for her that the arm that's driving forward at
:45:15. > :45:18.the line. Watch this, the arm comes forward because the other leg is
:45:19. > :45:24.going forward. That shoulder took it by 100th of a second, but that is
:45:25. > :45:30.still a good run from Shelayna Oskan-Clark. Almost, almost winning
:45:31. > :45:32.it. But a great silver medal. And a silver medal she can be really proud
:45:33. > :45:52.of. A des ter peration -- desperation lunge. She grew in
:45:53. > :45:57.confidence through the rounds and in that final, she didn't really put
:45:58. > :46:06.one foot wrong. She didn't quite, quite get there in the end if. It
:46:07. > :46:11.had been 802 metres she might have made it. That is a personal best.
:46:12. > :46:17.You come to championships worried about early season form. Got better
:46:18. > :46:20.and better. Well done to her and her coach. Got herself into the right
:46:21. > :46:29.position. Love the fact that Buchel took it out. That times moves her up
:46:30. > :46:34.the British-all time list. Behind sharp sharp Be Sharp.
:46:35. > :46:49.Butch buch, a new record for her. -- behind Sharp. Buchel, a new
:46:50. > :46:52.record for her. A great race from the two of them. Let's confirm it
:46:53. > :47:03.all. Bronze for Iceland. Silver for Great
:47:04. > :47:11.Britain. A personal best time. And the new
:47:12. > :47:17.national record for Selina Buchel of Switzerland.
:47:18. > :47:24.Congratulations. A fantastic performance. What a battle you had
:47:25. > :47:29.with Buchel. Describe it for us. I was trying to be brave. It was
:47:30. > :47:34.probably silly to go there unless I had committed more to doing it. And
:47:35. > :47:43.maybe if I sat, if I had that little bit at the end, but this annoying.
:47:44. > :47:47.Did you think you had her on the line? It was close. So I didn't
:47:48. > :47:52.know. I knew that I was really pushing hard to get her on the line.
:47:53. > :47:58.I don't know if I'd of got it or not. I saw Kelly here in the coach's
:47:59. > :48:02.area, saying don't be disappointed, it is silver medal. Your first major
:48:03. > :48:05.medal as well. You have to celebrate the joy of
:48:06. > :48:11.You always want the gold. I am glad that I came and I committed to it,
:48:12. > :48:16.what it was I wanted to do in the races. So close to the gold, but,
:48:17. > :48:21.I'm happy. I suppose I've got to be happy. When I go back I'll be fine.
:48:22. > :48:23.It is because it was so close it is a bit disappointing.
:48:24. > :48:33.We will show you on the monitor what happened? I was thinking, maybe I
:48:34. > :48:38.should go now because I felt good, but... She used her shoulder to good
:48:39. > :48:46.effect. That is what you meant to do. It threw me off. I need to be
:48:47. > :48:50.further forward, to be honest. Maybe I should have attacked it a bit
:48:51. > :48:55.earlier. Rather so close to the bend. But, you live and learn and I
:48:56. > :49:01.tried. I was braver. And I actually won a PB! And you are going to take
:49:02. > :49:06.that forward to the outdoor season. World Championship year. This has
:49:07. > :49:10.set you up perfectly. Yes. Is that all you're going to say? Yes.
:49:11. > :49:13.Thanks, Phil. Congratulations on silver. We wish you well for the
:49:14. > :49:19.rest of the season. Thank you. Goodbye.
:49:20. > :49:24.So that is silver. It further extends Great Britain's lead at the
:49:25. > :49:29.top of the table in terms of the medals won and Colin Jackson,
:49:30. > :49:35.fist-thumping, bringing him closer to his prediction. This is all about
:49:36. > :49:47.Colin, this. He looks like the plun dit who will win the sweep stake.
:49:48. > :49:53.Grabarz has taken to the runway already. The bar is set at 2 metres
:49:54. > :50:08.and 30 centimetres. 2.30... He's got it. Clear at the
:50:09. > :50:14.first time of asking. A significant height. Allan Smith is out.
:50:15. > :50:19.Supporting his team-mate, Robbie Grabarz.
:50:20. > :50:23.He may have just done something that others can't, because athletes have
:50:24. > :50:35.struggled so far in this high jump competition.
:50:36. > :50:40.Toni Minichiello down there, a very close view of that. The first time
:50:41. > :50:44.clearance of 2. . 27 put him into a medal position. That changes the
:50:45. > :50:48.colour and potentially puts him into gold. Now people have to out-jump
:50:49. > :50:54.him. They have to jump higher than him. The next will be 2.32. Maybe
:50:55. > :51:03.people will pass and go to higher heights.
:51:04. > :51:12.Then we have the Bella Russia, who is yet to jump at this height. It is
:51:13. > :51:17.still as yet a very tight competition. And by now you
:51:18. > :51:20.recognise that is a familiar noise and light show to introduce the next
:51:21. > :51:25.final. It is the women's long jump. We are getting close to a full house
:51:26. > :51:38.here. That is because they really fancy their chances.
:51:39. > :51:45.Ivana Spanovic. Outside there is a poster 60 metres high of this woman.
:51:46. > :51:51.They expect and she posted over seven metres, I think it was seven
:51:52. > :51:57.metres three. Then walked out as cool as a cucumber. This lady is
:51:58. > :52:08.feeling cool. She's giving it the moves. Lorraine ug ug. Great respect
:52:09. > :52:12.from -- Ugen. Great respect here.
:52:13. > :52:25.Maybe it is the feeling of last day. We are coming up to the final events
:52:26. > :52:33.of these championships. There is Estonia's Balta.
:52:34. > :52:38.Jasmine can do a somersault, if she wishes to. She can pull it out of
:52:39. > :52:44.the bag. Quite simple for our Jasmine. A kiss
:52:45. > :52:50.for the crowd. She hopes to pull out big jumps. She squeezed into this
:52:51. > :52:56.final, as she often does. She can do it on the big stage as can this
:52:57. > :53:01.lady. Darya. She is exempt because she does all
:53:02. > :53:06.of ther training in America. So, she is a mutual in this competition. And
:53:07. > :53:10.expect her to ruffle some feathers today.
:53:11. > :53:13.And it will go on bringing out all of these competitors, this
:53:14. > :53:17.introduction. They will have their final warm hups and we will be all
:53:18. > :53:23.over this -- warm-ups and then we will be all over this competition.
:53:24. > :53:28.Spanovic, every time she takes to the runway, it will be electric and
:53:29. > :53:31.hopefully the British athletes will be amongst the competition and
:53:32. > :53:38.keeping their jumps competitive throughout the afternoon.
:53:39. > :53:41.Watching all that and enjoying it, I am sure Richard.
:53:42. > :53:46.A huge congratulations on your gold medal. Did you enjoy your moment
:53:47. > :53:51.coming out there? It was nice. It was different. It is like a boxer
:53:52. > :53:53.coming out for a fight. I like that little introduction.
:53:54. > :54:03.It is different. You into the block. The field athletes have more time.
:54:04. > :54:07.You have to get and with what's been going on in the blocks in this
:54:08. > :54:15.competition, with all the false starts and various technical issues.
:54:16. > :54:24.Did that play on the mind at all? I spoke with my supporting:. And they
:54:25. > :54:28.said be solid in the blocks. After a couple of weeks ago I kept as
:54:29. > :54:32.relaxed and composed. I was not moving even if I was last out the
:54:33. > :54:40.blocks. How much does this gold medal mean? It is the third on the
:54:41. > :54:43.global champions and where you are now in your life, does this feel
:54:44. > :54:48.different? It definitely feels different. I'm a dad now. I'm
:54:49. > :54:54.engaged. It's completely different to where I was two years ago. I came
:54:55. > :54:59.out here with an orange bib on. It is a different mentality. To win
:55:00. > :55:05.this one for my son, as a father, it is a big one. It probably means the
:55:06. > :55:11.most to me. I got him a nice little teddy bear. How were you affected by
:55:12. > :55:18.the three rounds? I mean, you seem to grow each time. Really composed
:55:19. > :55:22.and really relaxed. In the championships I enjoy it when I come
:55:23. > :55:26.out. I enjoy it under the lights. I feel at home here. I thought with
:55:27. > :55:30.every round I need to be solid every round and lay the stamp down. The
:55:31. > :55:36.main thing was to stay relaxed. I was tired. We were up about 6am for
:55:37. > :55:41.breakfast, getting ready for the stadium and the final was 9am. It
:55:42. > :55:47.was a long, long day. I went back and have a little nap, spoke to the
:55:48. > :55:53.family. To come back in and keep resetting, later on. It was tough.
:55:54. > :55:57.Guys, I am going to have to... Hold that thought for a second because
:55:58. > :55:59.the noise tells us that Spanovic is out on the runway. Let's get out
:56:00. > :56:10.there and enjoy this. The whole of Serbia will be hoping
:56:11. > :56:22.for this athlete, the hugely popular Ivana Spanovic. She said? Her press
:56:23. > :56:27.conference, "I will take gold." A world leading jump in
:56:28. > :56:28.qualification, making light work opens her account in this long jump
:56:29. > :56:44.final. It is massive. She really went for
:56:45. > :56:50.it. Ivana Spanovic maybe buzzing a bit too much from the support of the
:56:51. > :56:54.home crowd. The red flag is raised. Well it was a significant foul, but
:56:55. > :56:58.it was a huge jump. You haven't got to take that much off. She's in
:56:59. > :57:03.serious shape. She'll have to control it, though.
:57:04. > :57:10.And relax into that second round, Spanovic, bronze-medallist last year
:57:11. > :57:22.in Rio, comes in here as favourite. The home
:57:23. > :57:30.advantage, She said she's not intimidated. She wants to bring it a
:57:31. > :57:37.door has opened because of that foul of Spanovic. Lorraine Ugen of Great
:57:38. > :57:38.Britain can put a mark out here to give Spanovic something to think
:57:39. > :57:55.about. Ugen, first attempt. It is a valid mark. It's not quite
:57:56. > :57:59.the distance she may have hoped for. Ugen, 6.93 she jumped last year.
:58:00. > :58:06.Just that right foot, as ever, it is a trademark. It does cost her
:58:07. > :58:09.distance. Lorraine Ugen, 25 years of age.
:58:10. > :58:22.Based in the States now. Second place so far.
:58:23. > :58:26.6. 75. Good, strong opener there.
:58:27. > :58:31.You can see she tried to calm the crowd before she went so she could
:58:32. > :58:35.focus on what we're going to do. Before we went to her jump, it is
:58:36. > :58:41.the same thing I was going to say to Richard here. You have through this
:58:42. > :58:45.championship - you've had a sense of calm about you. You look like you
:58:46. > :58:49.were to do a job and each and every round you were there in the moment.
:58:50. > :58:55.It said to me, this guy is the champion. One of my good friends,
:58:56. > :58:59.from back home, he told me a couple of weeks ago, after Sheffield, just
:59:00. > :59:02.remember how you were when you were in school, you just ran, you're
:59:03. > :59:07.fearless and enjoying it. You don't have a care in the world. That is
:59:08. > :59:12.it. Before I would go out for each of my runs I would look at a picture
:59:13. > :59:15.of my baby's face and I would smile. The occasion didn't get to me
:59:16. > :59:21.because I thought no matter what he'll be smiling when I get back. I
:59:22. > :59:22.stayed composed. I knew it would be the relaxation that would pull me
:59:23. > :59:37.through. The Serbian pentathlete just going
:59:38. > :59:42.out on what has been a really fantastic competition in the men's
:59:43. > :59:48.pentathlon. It has been a long competition. These guys have been
:59:49. > :00:00.there for a couple of hours already. Jazmin Sawyers. COMMENTATOR: Jazmin
:00:01. > :00:07.Sawyers 's first attempt. Maybe not quite what she would have hoped for.
:00:08. > :00:10.Built into her Johnson the qualification, needed all three of
:00:11. > :00:24.her attempt yesterday to make this final. The jump the is 6.47. Goes
:00:25. > :00:33.into third place. Six attempts as ever for the athletes. 6.47. Kelly's
:00:34. > :00:49.saw that in talking about deceleration, possibly. -- Kelly
:00:50. > :00:54.Sullivan. A huge roar from him. We saw him make a dog 's dinner of his
:00:55. > :01:00.first attempt. Nearly took the whole bed away. He tidy things up to good
:01:01. > :01:05.effect and matched the height that Robbie Grabarz has gone clear at.
:01:06. > :01:13.But at the second time of asking meaning Robbie Grabarz is in the
:01:14. > :01:25.lead. Bednorak the only other athletes so far to go clear at this
:01:26. > :01:34.height. Back to the long jump. Champion twice in this event. Looked
:01:35. > :01:43.as though she had to chop her stride to get a jump in. She has some
:01:44. > :01:51.history with Spanovic as well. They came through the junior ranks
:01:52. > :01:55.together. It's going to be a good tussle between Klishina and
:01:56. > :02:05.Spanovic, and hopefully Lorraine Ugen. 6.62 for Klishina. STUDIO:
:02:06. > :02:12.Klishina can jump a lot bigger than that. The atmosphere here is
:02:13. > :02:17.pumping. Expectation for Spanovic and building to a nice climax. Good
:02:18. > :02:23.to see some good new faces coming through here. Does the team feel
:02:24. > :02:30.fresh? Definitely. I'm the third oldest on my team now and I feel new
:02:31. > :02:35.to the team. I only started making the team in 2014. It's a really
:02:36. > :02:42.fresh team with a really nice bars. Everyone is really enthusiastic. The
:02:43. > :02:45.question is, as we move out of this indoor season and move into the
:02:46. > :02:55.outdoor competition, how are you going to take this form outdoors? I
:02:56. > :02:59.come in great shape because I have October, November, December, January
:03:00. > :03:04.preparation. I'm physically stronger, I'm leaner and I think I'm
:03:05. > :03:09.going to take a good two months preparation for the outdoors to make
:03:10. > :03:13.sure I'm in that physical shape. We wish you the very best and
:03:14. > :03:19.congratulations again. Enjoy your moment when you get home to your
:03:20. > :03:23.family. Steve Cram for the 800-metre men's final. COMMENTATOR: Well done,
:03:24. > :03:31.Richard. We move to another 800 metres. That's a familiar pose. I
:03:32. > :03:38.don't think he's taking his pulse but he always grabs his wrist. An
:03:39. > :03:54.interesting final, he is definitely the red-hot favourite.
:03:55. > :04:02.For me, Kszczot can't be beaten. He only made the semifinal in the pics
:04:03. > :04:07.last year and his team mate got to the final in Rio in the 800 which
:04:08. > :04:13.was a bit of a turnaround is. I had a chat with one of my old Spanish
:04:14. > :04:18.friends and he thinks Lopez is the one who will get in France. I
:04:19. > :04:21.thought the other youngster on the inside looked very good yesterday
:04:22. > :04:35.but he said no, Lopez will win the medal. Kupers put a really quick lap
:04:36. > :04:41.in the semifinals. That put paid to Kyle Langford. He likes to front run
:04:42. > :04:50.sometimes, Kupers. This guide to me looks impressive and if it's a bit
:04:51. > :04:55.slow he will be dangerous. De Arriba was second to Lopez at the Spanish
:04:56. > :05:05.championships. Kszczot is quicker than anyone else, in terms of a fast
:05:06. > :05:17.race I think if Kupers goes fast I think Kszczot will still be there.
:05:18. > :05:26.Men 800 metres final. Lopez is trying to come across. His
:05:27. > :05:32.team-mates getting a push. It's not back quick through the first 200
:05:33. > :05:38.metres. Not back quick at all. Lopez trying to control the race but I
:05:39. > :05:42.agree, I think in a slow run race De Arriba is the stronger threat,
:05:43. > :05:46.although Kszczot is the one who will control this race. I don't think
:05:47. > :05:53.Kupers will wait too long before moving to the front. Kszczot has got
:05:54. > :06:01.to get closer hair. This is very slow. Lopez controlling it at the
:06:02. > :06:14.front. Kszczot knows Kupers is going to try and come around everybody.
:06:15. > :06:20.That's very slow through 400 metres. Kupers has decided to put it on the
:06:21. > :06:26.line, Kszczot reacting. Kupers tracking him. The crowd going crazy.
:06:27. > :06:35.Serbian action elsewhere. Kszczot coming onto the shoulder... Kupers
:06:36. > :06:48.in a good spot. Kevin Lopez has gone. Kupers gives him a shove...
:06:49. > :06:56.Kszczot is running away with this. He's going to take the gold. Bube
:06:57. > :07:05.will take the silver but its gold Kszczot, Bube seconds. De Arriba won
:07:06. > :07:10.the battle for the bronze medal. There was never really going to be
:07:11. > :07:15.anyone to threaten him. It didn't matter how messy race. I thought it
:07:16. > :07:19.was odd what Lopez did. It have been better off sitting and waiting.
:07:20. > :07:25.Kupers never got a chance to try and use what he's got and got squeezed
:07:26. > :07:36.out by the two Spanish athletes. He's a great exponent of this in
:07:37. > :07:42.indoor running. He's delivered. He has, absolutely. He's one of the
:07:43. > :07:49.world-class top athletes outdoors but indoors he's another level up
:07:50. > :07:55.again. He controls the race wherever he is placed. Bube took it to him
:07:56. > :08:02.and gave it everything he has and thoroughly deserves the silver
:08:03. > :08:12.medal. I think De Arriba has a bit of a complaint to put in there. -- I
:08:13. > :08:18.think Kupers has a complaint to put in there. Kszczot the
:08:19. > :08:30.gold-medallist, Bube winning a medal for Denmark and De Arriba getting
:08:31. > :08:35.the bronze for Spain. Spanovic on the runway for her second attempt.
:08:36. > :08:46.Huge file in the first rounds. If she gets this right it could be
:08:47. > :08:52.enormous -- huge foul. Lorraine Ugen waiting... It's a big effort from
:08:53. > :09:00.Spanovic. It's huge. It's over seven metres, it's the white flag...
:09:01. > :09:06.Spanovic, the champion two years ago, has just produced a very
:09:07. > :09:12.special jump in the second round. Good extension. Not as big as the
:09:13. > :09:20.first jump and a tiniest of space to spare on the board. Good adjustment
:09:21. > :09:28.from her. She's experienced. It's 7.16, a new world leads. A lifetime
:09:29. > :09:41.best for her. An enormous jump, that goes into sixth place ever in world
:09:42. > :09:46.indoor long jumping. Ivana Spanovic may have just jumped a gold medal
:09:47. > :09:51.leap in the second round. Is that too much to ask of Great Britain's
:09:52. > :09:59.Lorraine Ugen? What can she do to respond? That's a big effort too. I
:10:00. > :10:06.tell you what, that's a great response from Lorraine Ugen. It's
:10:07. > :10:17.not going to challenge the leads. 7.16. Ugen's lifetime best is 6.93.
:10:18. > :10:24.What a great responsive effort from Ugen. It is 6.97, a new national
:10:25. > :10:36.record and she goes into second place behind Ivana Spanovic.
:10:37. > :10:45.Robbie Grabarz we seem go clear at the height of two metres and 30
:10:46. > :10:55.centimetres. This is his third and final attempt to stay involved. That
:10:56. > :11:00.nearly stayed on for the young Belarussian Seliverstau. Three
:11:01. > :11:10.fouls. He was definitely down as someone to content the 20-year-old,
:11:11. > :11:14.2.30 his best this year. Goes out at the height of 2.30. They are falling
:11:15. > :11:26.like flies around Robbie Grabarz. It's over to Chesani bitterly. His
:11:27. > :11:32.team-mate got the better of Robbie Grabarz a year ago in the World
:11:33. > :11:37.Indoors. He isn't here, Chesani is. He carries two fouls at this height.
:11:38. > :11:47.But we seem Robbie Grabarz go clear at. Chesani, 2.30.
:11:48. > :11:55.Not good enough. Three fouls, so Robbie Grabarz with that failure is
:11:56. > :12:05.guaranteed a medal, in fact he's guaranteed a silver medal. Because
:12:06. > :12:19.it's only Robbie Grabarz and Bednarek who've gone clear now.
:12:20. > :12:24.Bednarek did go clear at 30. 2.30, that is. He did it at his second
:12:25. > :12:32.attempt. He trails Robbie Grabarz. The bar has been raised to 2.32. He
:12:33. > :12:37.has to go clear here to put the ball back in Robbie Grabarz's court. He
:12:38. > :12:54.does. What a competitive effort that is. From Bednarek. The 27-year-old
:12:55. > :12:59.Pole. Maybe puts a lot of pressure back on to Robbie Grabarz. It was
:13:00. > :13:05.all into control for the Brits until that clearance. This new heights,
:13:06. > :13:16.only Bednarek has gone clear. Robbie Grabarz yet to attempt. The Pole
:13:17. > :13:20.knows how important that was. One foul at 30 before a clear and a
:13:21. > :13:30.first-time clearance of 32. What can Robbie Grabarz do to respond? That's
:13:31. > :13:44.close. But... Well. All of a sudden, the pressure is on the Brits. A foul
:13:45. > :13:49.at 2.32 at the first time of asking means Bednarek is established in
:13:50. > :13:53.first place. It'll be interesting to see if Robbie has another go at that
:13:54. > :13:59.height because he knows, I think he's saying he's going to pass and
:14:00. > :14:01.go to the next height. Drama on the infield as we turn attention to the
:14:02. > :14:19.long jump, Jazmin Sawyers. She is in the second round. Fast on
:14:20. > :14:25.the approach as ever. Looked close on the board, though. That was a
:14:26. > :14:34.better jump, I think. It is a foul for Sawyers. Well, one more attempt
:14:35. > :14:44.at the moment. Jazmin Sawyers is in fifth place. Back to the high jump.
:14:45. > :14:53.Bednarek. 2.3 four. No, no. Close, he is in shape. A nod of the head
:14:54. > :15:03.from his coach, he is in the driving seat, is the Polish competitor. The
:15:04. > :15:08.best four Grabarz has been 2.30. We have just seen Bednarek foul and
:15:09. > :15:24.this is to put Grabarz back in front. Just decelerated onto that.
:15:25. > :15:28.Right then, round three of this thrilling long jump final. Ivana
:15:29. > :15:34.Spanovic is making the most of her home advantage, she is the indoor
:15:35. > :15:39.champion, a bit of pride there as well. Retaining it on home soil,
:15:40. > :15:45.what can she do in round three? It is another big effort. The white
:15:46. > :15:51.flag is raised, a big smile from Spanovic, she may even have extended
:15:52. > :15:57.that world leader Mark of 7.16 that she did in the second round. She
:15:58. > :16:02.knew she was on form in qualifying and really excel rates those last
:16:03. > :16:08.few strides onto the board. Gives her so much momentum and she times
:16:09. > :16:16.it well and drives hard. Clean on landing. Very accomplished long
:16:17. > :16:21.jumping. Taking a while to this one. Suspecting it is further. Serbia
:16:22. > :16:33.goes quiet in anticipation of what might be a very significant jump.
:16:34. > :16:38.Well, Spanovic, might be a technical problem, we might have to come back
:16:39. > :16:43.to you to let you know what the distance is for Spanovic, she is in
:16:44. > :16:46.the lead, but Robbie Grabarz finds himself under a little bit of
:16:47. > :16:55.pressure here in this high jump final. He has the silver medal. He
:16:56. > :17:00.has seen Bednarek have two fouls at this height. If he goes clear, he
:17:01. > :17:13.goes into the lead. He is in second place at the moment behind the
:17:14. > :17:21.Polish competitor. That was close. That was close. The noise from the
:17:22. > :17:28.crowd unfortunately was not for Robbie Grabarz today, it was for
:17:29. > :17:36.Spanovic, 7.24. Bednarek has his arms raised. He has one already.
:17:37. > :17:47.That was the third time failure for Robbie Grabarz. Last chance saloon,
:17:48. > :17:52.but he carried that foul from 2.32. His coach thought he had it. That
:17:53. > :18:01.was a good effort from Grabarz. Has to settle for second, a silver medal
:18:02. > :18:08.to add to his world indoor silver. All this happened simultaneously.
:18:09. > :18:19.This was happening on that jump. 7.24, just six centimetres behind
:18:20. > :18:29.the Championship records, 7.24, that lifts her up into fourth place on
:18:30. > :18:36.the all-time list. Wow! Lorraine Ugen, looking to respond. She is
:18:37. > :18:48.just rushing. It was a foul, a red flag. Absolutely huge efforts in the
:18:49. > :18:51.long jump. Spanovic on fire, 7.24. Brilliant stuff, Lorraine Ugen very
:18:52. > :18:57.much in silver medal place at the moment. What an incredible afternoon
:18:58. > :19:02.so far. Robbie Grabarz with a silver medal in the high jump there,
:19:03. > :19:07.Lorraine in silver medal position in the long jump and were two medals
:19:08. > :19:18.for Great Britain in the 3000 metres earlier on. We will come to Laura
:19:19. > :19:22.Muir in a moment, but first, hats off to Eilish McColgan. We were
:19:23. > :19:25.hoping for a gold medal and when we looked at the field, we wondered if
:19:26. > :19:30.there was a chance for Eilish McColgan. She admitted afterwards,
:19:31. > :19:36.she probably did not run the best race early on. She was waiting and
:19:37. > :19:42.was patient. She is not sure if they are going to announce this. Now, it
:19:43. > :19:51.is her moment to step up to receive her first senior medal. Her mother
:19:52. > :19:55.has never won a European end or a medal, so at least she has done
:19:56. > :19:59.something her mother had not. She won indoor medals at the World
:20:00. > :20:07.Championships, but this is her moment. She is in a rich vein of
:20:08. > :20:13.form at the moment. She will be back for the 5000 metres in the summer.
:20:14. > :20:18.But that turn of speed at the later stages, holding Costa who had tried
:20:19. > :20:26.to chase down at the top two and paid for that chase. Eilish
:20:27. > :20:34.McColgan. A brave performance from the European Cross country champion.
:20:35. > :20:38.Rewarded with a personal best. She has not really run much indoors at
:20:39. > :20:47.all. She took it out as hard as she could. Against anyone else, that
:20:48. > :20:52.would have caused some damage and put a lot of pressure, particularly
:20:53. > :20:59.someone who has already run three races this weekend. It all started
:21:00. > :21:08.on Friday morning for Laura Muir. 3000 metres hits. She went back
:21:09. > :21:12.later that afternoon in the 1500 metre heats and they came back last
:21:13. > :21:16.night and won the gold medal in a new Championship and British record
:21:17. > :21:22.in the 1500 metres and followed that up with a stunning performance over
:21:23. > :21:28.the 3000 metres, longer distance, with a new Championship record. Two
:21:29. > :21:32.gold medals, a unique double for Laura Muir because no one has done
:21:33. > :21:46.up with heats in both events. Simply superb.
:21:47. > :22:27.To British medals in the women's 3000 metres double pad their
:22:28. > :22:31.beginnings in the cross country schools athletics in Scotland. Hats
:22:32. > :22:48.off to Eilish McColgan and Laura Muir.
:22:49. > :22:55.Well, what can Jazmin Sawyers master. She has just heard the
:22:56. > :23:00.National Anthem, courtesy of Laura Muir, her team-mate. We are in round
:23:01. > :23:08.three of this spectacular long jump final. Sawyers. Hit the board well,
:23:09. > :23:18.I think. It is an improvement. Sawyers best so far, 6.47, a foul in
:23:19. > :23:24.the second round. 6.59 Ed is for Sawyers. That is an improvement
:23:25. > :23:32.taking her into fifth place. Perfect on the board. Drives hard, squeezes
:23:33. > :23:44.everything out of that. Very good jump indeed for Sawyers. 6.59, fifth
:23:45. > :23:49.place at the halfway stage. So, let's have a recount on the medal
:23:50. > :23:55.table, Great Britain are in second place and it goes on gold medals
:23:56. > :24:05.because the total, Poland are ahead, sorry, Poland are in the lead, Great
:24:06. > :24:10.Britain in second place,. Plenty more medals to come, because the 60
:24:11. > :24:16.metres women are out warming up on the track. Asha Philip going for
:24:17. > :24:21.Great Britain. It is really tight. There is very little to give you an
:24:22. > :24:26.indication of who to call on this. Completely, it could be a blanket
:24:27. > :24:34.finish but one thing is for sure, Asha Philip needs to raise her game
:24:35. > :24:38.and hopefully she will have seen and heard of Shelayna Oskan-Clarke
:24:39. > :24:46.snicking in a medal. She knows, she has been in the game a long time,
:24:47. > :24:50.she is very experienced. She is Olympic medallist. She knows what
:24:51. > :24:55.this means and she has got to stay focused and get out hard. It is a
:24:56. > :25:03.great atmosphere to be running in a final. It is a packed arena and they
:25:04. > :25:07.are here to see their heroine, Spanovic to produce the goods. She
:25:08. > :25:09.is not disappointing and you get the impression, the way these are
:25:10. > :25:15.British athletes are performing, that it is a disappointment not to
:25:16. > :25:21.get among the medals. There is a high level of expectation and that
:25:22. > :25:25.is great to see. We are into a new era of athletics, we were accused of
:25:26. > :25:30.not having the talent but it is there. It has been rich in talent,
:25:31. > :25:33.it is navigating how to deal with these stressful situations,
:25:34. > :25:41.competing at the highest level and accepting you have a place here if
:25:42. > :25:44.you just know how to compete and the girls are being ushered off to go
:25:45. > :25:48.and have their big introduction. You know how it goes. They disappear
:25:49. > :25:52.down the bank and then they brought out to the music and lights show and
:25:53. > :26:00.some of them seem to like it, some of them not so much. The long jump
:26:01. > :26:04.women kind of embraced the process. Lorraine Ugen did! You have got to
:26:05. > :26:11.be in the moment. The atmosphere was incredible. The men's heptathlon is
:26:12. > :26:15.also going on and also with Robbie Grabarz. He has just taken the
:26:16. > :26:20.silver in the high jump competition which was fantastic. He will be
:26:21. > :26:26.happy with that. Yes, I think so. I think Robbie, because he has been on
:26:27. > :26:30.the Olympic podium already, I think he needs to think about world high
:26:31. > :26:37.jumping and how he can make up that gap. We have seen a lot of 2.40
:26:38. > :26:42.jumpers come through and he has tried to address that gap. He gets
:26:43. > :26:48.himself into finals and always in a good position and has so many podium
:26:49. > :26:52.finishes, he is a great competitor and gets himself into the right
:26:53. > :26:56.position, makes sure he is with the highest jumpers at the end of the
:26:57. > :27:03.competition and gives himself a chance. Smiling there with his Union
:27:04. > :27:10.Jack. Here go, it is the last of the fast women, the 60-metre final and
:27:11. > :27:15.let's get you over to your commentator for this one. Andrew,
:27:16. > :27:22.you can enjoy the razzmatazz. I do. Let's do this. Build the suspense.
:27:23. > :27:26.The 19-year-old came in as one of the favourites but only scraped into
:27:27. > :27:34.the final as the second of the fastest losers, it is Swoboda. I
:27:35. > :27:39.think she has more to give. Alexandra Burghardt, one of three
:27:40. > :27:41.Germans in this final. Their strongest challenge will come from
:27:42. > :27:57.Rebekka Haase. This is Olesya Povh. She had
:27:58. > :28:07.possibly the best start of all, winner of this title six years ago.
:28:08. > :28:19.Very good starter in lane four, from Switzerland, Mujinga Kambundji.
:28:20. > :28:28.This is Rebekka Haase, blisteringly quick in the first round, 7.14, took
:28:29. > :28:38.three gold medals at the under 23 championships a few months ago. Asha
:28:39. > :28:42.Philip. She has probably had enough of finishing fourth in major
:28:43. > :28:46.championships. The world seniors, the world indoors, the Commonwealth
:28:47. > :28:49.Games, the European Championships last year, Kenji stepped up to win a
:28:50. > :28:57.medal as an individual? The 21-year-old won the French
:28:58. > :29:25.indoor title. There is a wonderful atmosphere
:29:26. > :29:31.inside the arena. Asha Philip has to be as composed as Richard Kilty was
:29:32. > :29:35.in the men's 60-metre final. Yes, fourth quickest coming into this of
:29:36. > :29:44.the qualifiers, but so close between the times of passing Povh. Asha
:29:45. > :29:57.Philip. Just the relays to come after this.
:29:58. > :30:03.And with all the drama, with the long jump and the high jump going
:30:04. > :30:07.on... There is an electricity around this venue. And we settle in now.
:30:08. > :30:35.Asha Philip in lane six. Called back. Called back, and for
:30:36. > :30:41.one of these women it may be over. Povh always get such a good start.
:30:42. > :30:46.Your eyes are automatically drawn to her to see how good has start is.
:30:47. > :30:57.I'm not sure that's not Asha Philip. I don't want to tempt fate.
:30:58. > :31:01.Actually, Swoboda in lane one... Asha Philip just outside a tenth of
:31:02. > :31:14.a second. Swoboda such a good starter as well but an illegal
:31:15. > :31:24.starter. I would say that was a very good start by Asha Philip. You can't
:31:25. > :31:28.get much better than that. Let's see what happens to Swoboda. Even though
:31:29. > :31:33.we've seen who's reacted clearly before the gun... It may be looking
:31:34. > :31:41.at the equipment and making sure when they make this decision that it
:31:42. > :31:45.is the right one. Belgrade 2017 is... Asha Philip got a great start
:31:46. > :31:54.there. It's all done on reaction times. Keeping an eye on Swoboda as
:31:55. > :32:11.well. This may be the walk to lane one. It's a yellow. That's a conduct
:32:12. > :32:17.warning. Look at Swoboda's reaction. She has counted all of her blessings
:32:18. > :32:34.and then more. A green technical card after a yellow for Kambundji.
:32:35. > :32:47.Asha Philip after registering 0.1... I'm not sure why Swoboda was spared
:32:48. > :32:51.on that occasion. All survive. The notes being sorely tested, the
:32:52. > :33:01.adrenaline coursing through the veins -- the nerves. The men's
:33:02. > :33:07.champion will be watching. Richard Kilty there. Asha Philip settles
:33:08. > :33:18.into lane six. Away cleanly this time. Asha Philip coming through
:33:19. > :33:24.now. It's Asha Philip on the line! What a performance, what a run, it
:33:25. > :33:29.is gold for Asha Philip! She has produced her very best for this
:33:30. > :33:34.occasion here in Belgrade, the champion of Europe indoors Asha
:33:35. > :33:41.Philip takes gold. What a run, what a run from Asha Philip. She's known
:33:42. > :33:47.as a great starter, but there she was a wonderful finisher and the
:33:48. > :33:54.gold medal is her rewards. It's a new British record for Asha Philip.
:33:55. > :33:58.Exploded out of the blocks, kept her cool. She knows there's a lot of
:33:59. > :34:04.talent and she wasn't coming into this vinyl as the clear favourite
:34:05. > :34:09.whatsoever. Her performance was absolutely outstanding -- this
:34:10. > :34:13.final. She said should have to go close to her personal best to win
:34:14. > :34:21.the gold medal. It's a big step to go from that. It's a performance for
:34:22. > :34:27.the big occasion, incredible. It is really incredible. She did need to
:34:28. > :34:31.set a personal best to take the title. She wanted it. She got up the
:34:32. > :34:36.blocks well but she could see, as she puts herself into that upright
:34:37. > :34:40.position and started to run, she was like, I'm up here and I'm not going
:34:41. > :34:53.to have these women still this title from me. She knows that Povh gets a
:34:54. > :34:57.good start. Out of her left thigh she could see Swoboda and Povh
:34:58. > :35:03.starting so well but didn't panic. Her head was down for at least 30
:35:04. > :35:08.metres, driving hard, working well. She looks really cool and calm and
:35:09. > :35:12.composed. She comes to the line she realises it's mine, and she dives
:35:13. > :35:19.for it. Big smile. Even though we could see clearly that she had the
:35:20. > :35:23.title, I'm not sure she really did. She just worked hard for the tape
:35:24. > :35:33.and dipped, phenomenal. Well done, new British record, Willie and
:35:34. > :35:37.performance. The record gone. The World Indoors in 2014, the
:35:38. > :35:41.Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the European Championships last
:35:42. > :35:46.year, we wondered if she could step up to take a medal, but it is gold.
:35:47. > :35:52.That was a big win in terms of distance. She dominated the field in
:35:53. > :36:09.the second half of the race. That time, 7.06 is world-class.
:36:10. > :36:17.STUDIO: Amazing, what a run. She had the perfect start and then the race
:36:18. > :36:22.was called back. You are thinking, can she produce a start like that
:36:23. > :36:27.again with nerves on the blocks but she got out again the second time
:36:28. > :36:32.with explosiveness. She drove it to the line, what a run. What a run. I
:36:33. > :36:39.can just about breathe. For me that is fantastic. She ran close to the
:36:40. > :36:43.perfect race, you could see the determination on her face. I can't
:36:44. > :36:49.begin to tell you how much that will mean to her. She was hoping that if
:36:50. > :36:53.she could rekindle some of her form from 2014 where she put down some
:36:54. > :37:01.good personal bests, here she is now with a new personal best which is
:37:02. > :37:06.fantastic. She had to run that kind of time because there was real
:37:07. > :37:11.symmetry there in the times and what they could do. We will hear from her
:37:12. > :37:18.shortly but we are going to hear right now from silver-medallist in
:37:19. > :37:22.the men's high jump, Robbie Grabarz. Robbie, I wonder when you were on
:37:23. > :37:26.your hospital bed six weeks ago if you ever imagined you would be in
:37:27. > :37:30.disposition and winning another metal. Ignorantly I did but
:37:31. > :37:37.realistically it was a challenge so I'm over the moon. A shame not to
:37:38. > :37:40.win, that's what I here to do. I was in the league until it really
:37:41. > :37:46.mattered. It was good fun and that's what the high jump is about. You
:37:47. > :37:50.were the first to go over and congratulate the winner of the
:37:51. > :37:52.competition. Tell me what it's like when you're in the heat of the
:37:53. > :37:57.moment and these guys going head-to-head. It's fun and the more
:37:58. > :38:01.you're into the competition, the more fun it gets. It's head-to-head
:38:02. > :38:05.but at the same time you're not trying to race each other, you're
:38:06. > :38:14.both trying to clear the same thing. You can really respect what the
:38:15. > :38:18.other guy is doing. Can you rise to the occasion and can you feed off
:38:19. > :38:24.that camaraderie? You seem so relaxed. I try and relax myself. It
:38:25. > :38:28.is fun and it's what I enjoy. You get yourself relaxed and in a good
:38:29. > :38:33.frame of mind and you can compete. That's what I love doing. How do you
:38:34. > :38:42.temper the disappointment it's not gold with a fine achievement it is a
:38:43. > :38:53.silver? We should keep inside it is a big achievement, Robbie. I do
:38:54. > :38:59.reward myself about but you can never ever congratulate yourself for
:39:00. > :39:06.second place but I'm proud of it. All the best, chairs.
:39:07. > :39:17.COMMENTATOR: Usain Bolt has done it! It's a new British record! A new
:39:18. > :39:27.world record! Sophie Hitchon, what an effort! Thompson has Olympic
:39:28. > :39:34.gold. A new British record! He's going to win the world title! A
:39:35. > :39:37.beautiful jump! Laura Muir, she has smashed the British record. Mo Farah
:39:38. > :39:49.wins the gold! STUDIO: This is the finale of the
:39:50. > :39:53.indoor season but all eyes are on the road to London and the World
:39:54. > :39:56.Championships, for the likes of Robbie Grabarz who has performed
:39:57. > :40:00.consistently well. You'll be looking at that has a big opportunity, as
:40:01. > :40:04.will Laura Muir who is in the form of her life and must be making some
:40:05. > :40:07.of the great runners in the world who are not here in these
:40:08. > :40:14.championships sit up and take notice. Whatever your route is to
:40:15. > :40:18.London, whether it's being here at the European indoors or waiting and
:40:19. > :40:24.focusing on the outdoors, it is about what happens in August that
:40:25. > :40:29.really counts. What a fantastic performance by her. She knows that
:40:30. > :40:35.world sprinting is a different level. What she's done today, that
:40:36. > :40:39.7.06 is getting had there. And actually if she can combine that
:40:40. > :40:43.60-metre power and strength she clearly has demonstrated today with
:40:44. > :40:49.that last 40 metres, she will get into those finals where she's been
:40:50. > :40:55.in the semifinals so many times. This is significant. Robbie Grabarz
:40:56. > :41:13.there with a hug. Let's get out there to the long jump competition.
:41:14. > :41:28.COMMENTATOR:, Spanovic, the world record is 7.37. Spanovic round four,
:41:29. > :41:33.in the lead. It's another big effort beyond seven metres. The white flag
:41:34. > :41:40.is raised. She is in incredible shape, as she alluded to in a press
:41:41. > :41:44.conference and then showed us yesterday in qualification. Two John
:41:45. > :41:51.is already beyond seven metres. The first was a foul but was probably
:41:52. > :41:57.the best of the lot. She jumped last week in this stadium to take the
:41:58. > :42:06.Serbian Championships indoors. Got a feel for the runway. 7.17. It would
:42:07. > :42:15.have been a world league if it wasn't for her second round jump.
:42:16. > :42:30.This happened just before that jump of Spanovic. Jazmin Sawyers best so
:42:31. > :42:37.far is 6.59. She will need a jump of 6.80 to get in the medals. That's a
:42:38. > :42:44.big effort. It's a foul. Unfortunately for Jazmin Sawyers,
:42:45. > :42:48.that was a big jump. Look at that. Just nicked the plasticine. But will
:42:49. > :42:58.give her confidence, she has two more efforts. Lorraine Ugen in the
:42:59. > :43:08.fourth round, also just a few moments ago. A big effort in round
:43:09. > :43:16.two of 6.97. That was a bigger foul. She knew she was taking chances
:43:17. > :43:22.there. Really running at it. A top too much ground, got on top of the
:43:23. > :43:30.board and that's what happens. She's in shape too. In second place at the
:43:31. > :43:33.moment. STUDIO: As soon as we got the schedule for these three days we
:43:34. > :43:37.knew that this afternoon and this evening with that long jump
:43:38. > :43:42.competition and Spanovic in the form she's in, it would be an electric
:43:43. > :43:48.atmosphere and a great competition. The series she has put together is
:43:49. > :43:49.sensational. Four jumps already over seven metres. It looks like she's
:43:50. > :44:01.going for the championship record. It would be phenomenal and what a
:44:02. > :44:06.place to do it, to have it in the record books in Belgrade would be a
:44:07. > :44:09.wonderful moment. The roof just might left and the crowd who are
:44:10. > :44:14.loving that long jump competition will be willing her on and all the
:44:15. > :44:20.performances here, the crowd have been fairer and have got behind all
:44:21. > :44:24.the athletes. A little bit partisan when we see a performance like that,
:44:25. > :44:30.from Asha Philip, not a surprise in that you do not expect to perform,
:44:31. > :44:36.but because there was no clear out and out favourite. It was a true
:44:37. > :44:43.race, wasn't it and we enjoyed the performance and I am sure Phil is
:44:44. > :44:53.telling her that right now. A delighted and patients Asha Philip.
:44:54. > :45:00.I am so happy. I was not doubting myself. I knew I had it in me. Every
:45:01. > :45:05.time I seem to get on the start line, I was hoping it would not
:45:06. > :45:11.happen in the final. I just said, I am going to go out here and do my
:45:12. > :45:16.best, and that is what I did. Tell me about the false start? It
:45:17. > :45:25.happened a couple of times. How nervous worry you? Because the start
:45:26. > :45:33.is my best pirate, having that, not the insured, every time I had
:45:34. > :45:42.around, it happened in my race. I told myself to stay calm. Once you
:45:43. > :45:49.realised you had won, what was that first emotion? I was lost for words.
:45:50. > :45:54.When I crossed the line, I could feel the girls on my left and I did
:45:55. > :46:00.not know what position I was. I said I would not believe it if they did
:46:01. > :46:06.not say my name. A national record, my new personal best, I am so happy.
:46:07. > :46:13.I miss my family so much. I am thankful for everyone who supported
:46:14. > :46:21.me. I want us to shout out for National Lottery as well. I cannot
:46:22. > :46:32.explain how happy am thankful I am, my family are my rocks, they have
:46:33. > :46:36.supported me. I love everyone. I could cry right now, but I'd do not
:46:37. > :46:43.want to cry on camera, you cannot cry pretty! It is like your Oscars
:46:44. > :46:48.speech moment. I know that you have won medals in the relay before,
:46:49. > :46:51.especially last year at the Olympics, but to do it as an
:46:52. > :47:00.individual, that has to be incredible. Every time I have been
:47:01. > :47:05.in the 60, I have made the final, but having the success with the
:47:06. > :47:11.girls in the relay, we work so well as a team, but to have my own
:47:12. > :47:17.successes even better. That one touch that we had, knowing that we
:47:18. > :47:21.had an Olympic medal, the level of female sprinting is through the
:47:22. > :47:27.roof, the support is getting bigger, going home with my own individual
:47:28. > :47:39.medal, I am really happy. I'm so happy right now. You deserve to be,
:47:40. > :47:44.congratulations. Thank you. Well, if you do not love Asha Philip, you
:47:45. > :47:49.have got a heart of stone. She is infectious, such a brilliant
:47:50. > :47:54.inspiration to kids watching, she loves her sport, she has been
:47:55. > :47:59.through the mill, she has had injuries, she was a trampoline is,
:48:00. > :48:03.she had an injury in athletics as well, she has had to come through so
:48:04. > :48:07.many different obstacles and has persisted and got that individual
:48:08. > :48:13.medal and she touched on what that Olympic relay medal did for her in
:48:14. > :48:16.terms of belief. It elevates you, keeps you going through these long
:48:17. > :48:22.winter months and remind you that you are good enough. You just heard
:48:23. > :48:27.from her, she is a drama student, I love that. She is a bright and
:48:28. > :48:31.bubbly character, great energy in the team. I just think this was
:48:32. > :48:38.significant, the time was significant and we will see more
:48:39. > :48:42.from her. Paula has joined us. We will see that move into the outdoor
:48:43. > :48:48.season as well, this performance, were she think she can win this.
:48:49. > :48:52.That is what she personifies, is that tactic that we need to take
:48:53. > :48:56.more of bringing youngsters here, letting them make the step up, it
:48:57. > :49:02.gives them a big boost going into the outdoor season. Let's see what
:49:03. > :49:11.Lorraine Ugen can do now. She is asking for support, she has seen the
:49:12. > :49:20.German go 6.34 behind her best jump so far. Brown five. It is another
:49:21. > :49:29.decent effort for Lorraine Ugen. Still in second place. So far, with
:49:30. > :49:36.one jump remaining after this one. Spanovic, dominant, the Serbian
:49:37. > :49:43.champion out in front, but Lorraine Ugen, holding onto silver medal
:49:44. > :49:44.place, six point 58, she stays in second place, with one jump
:49:45. > :50:09.remaining. So then, with one jump to close this
:50:10. > :50:14.fifth round, the penultimate round of the final, Ivana Spanovic has put
:50:15. > :50:20.together one of the greatest ever series in long jumping, a foul, and
:50:21. > :50:26.massive file in the first round, 7.16 in the second, 7.17 in the
:50:27. > :50:43.fourth, what can she do in the fifth round? It is a foul. The crowd
:50:44. > :50:51.buoying her, absolutely cheering her to go beyond the 7.24 she has done
:50:52. > :50:56.already. Stretch that a bit too much, a significant foul, but 7.24
:50:57. > :51:02.in the second round, further than what it took to win the Olympics
:51:03. > :51:16.last year. Spanovic had to sell for Braunston. This was her effort in
:51:17. > :51:22.round five that I mentioned, she knew that was good, until that
:51:23. > :51:31.point, her opener was the best, she is 30 years of age. She has some
:51:32. > :51:41.pedigree. Fifth at the world indoors a years back. 6.9 that was. I knew
:51:42. > :51:46.lifetime best means that Salman-Rath goes into third place. You feel
:51:47. > :52:03.there is potentially some drama left to unfold.
:52:04. > :52:16.We are in the final round. And it is Alexandra Wester from Germany, the
:52:17. > :52:21.22-year-old, our best so far of 6.53 in the previous round. That is a
:52:22. > :52:25.similar effort. She is in eighth place and I don't think she will
:52:26. > :52:38.improve on that, I think she knows it as well. Wester, 6.43, no
:52:39. > :52:43.improvement, 6.53 was her best. It will not challenge any of the places
:52:44. > :52:47.above her. They reversed the order in this round so as we go through
:52:48. > :52:57.the jumps, they are the positions they are currently in. So, Marina
:52:58. > :53:08.back of the Ukraine. Best so far of 659. A similar effort there. Same
:53:09. > :53:14.distance in fact as Jazmin Sawyers has Bekh but she has backed it up in
:53:15. > :53:20.round five, which means the Ukrainian goes ahead of Sawyers.
:53:21. > :53:29.Sawyers down into seventh place, Bekh is in sixth place. The
:53:30. > :53:35.22-year-old junior bronze-medallist of 2013, back in sixth place for
:53:36. > :53:47.that. 659, exactly the same distance as Jazmin Sawyers. Next up, it is
:53:48. > :54:05.the Estonian, Balta. She is in fifth place. Balta, 6.87 was her lifetime
:54:06. > :54:10.best. Previous champion in 2009, Balta, has had a taste of victory
:54:11. > :54:16.but that is a big ask on this occasion with the likes of Spanovic
:54:17. > :54:22.and that is a foul for Balta. Sixth in the Olympics last year. Sit here
:54:23. > :54:31.at the European Indoor Championships, as we move towards
:54:32. > :54:46.the business end. Could there be a reshuffle of the medals
:54:47. > :55:07.Spanovic a big come on from Jazmin Sawyers,, 6.84 would get her into
:55:08. > :55:23.she looks up for this, strides out hard. Good on the board, you could
:55:24. > :55:35.see those three lines the seven-metre mark. Spanovic, as she
:55:36. > :55:49.took off there, the undercarriage you could see the Sawyers got 6.67,
:55:50. > :56:46.what. She should not be The blanket ban for the Russians
:56:47. > :56:49.still stands. Look at that. Season's best. But no improvement. As to
:56:50. > :57:12.settle for just outside the medals. Salman-Rath takes to the runway. She
:57:13. > :57:26.has guaranteed herself a bronze medal. Can she improve? Explore 97
:57:27. > :57:32.possibly the target for Salman-Rath. Another big effort. Just shy of that
:57:33. > :57:38.line with the three. The bronze medal line. That is her own job.
:57:39. > :57:44.Well, the reaction I think she knows, she is happy with bronze.
:57:45. > :57:51.Salman-Rath of Germany, 30 years of age. She has been forth at world
:57:52. > :57:56.champion chips, fifth and indoor Championships and now she has some
:57:57. > :58:02.metalware. She is celebrating early. Has got the German flag already. Two
:58:03. > :58:05.very important jumps will remain. She will just settle a little bit
:58:06. > :58:26.and contain her excitement at taking a medal because
:58:27. > :58:37.we have Ugen. I wonder what she's thinking right now. When you know a
:58:38. > :58:45.jump of 7.24 stands in front of you and a gold medal. Guaranteed silver.
:58:46. > :58:53.Does she believe that is possible? I suppose you have got to. You have
:58:54. > :59:01.got to believe it unequivocally and I suspect there is an element of her
:59:02. > :59:11.who has two found on to the Serbian. Spanovic. Lorraine Ugen, national
:59:12. > :59:16.record. Four centimetres further than she jumped last year to take a
:59:17. > :59:23.bronze medal. She tore her hamstring after that. In Portland. And did not
:59:24. > :59:27.convert that kind of form into the outdoors. But looking as though she
:59:28. > :59:40.has got herself back in fantastic shape. Katarina Johnson-Thompson of
:59:41. > :59:56.course out nursing a hamstring. Lorraine Ugen waiting patiently.
:59:57. > :00:06.Toni on the track, you are level with the take-off board. What is
:00:07. > :00:13.your perspective? Basically what a fantastic competition. I do not know
:00:14. > :00:16.the last time we saw the European condition with this kind of
:00:17. > :00:25.distances. Some incredible jumping in this competition. That is Toni
:00:26. > :00:35.Minichiello, coach to Jessica Ennis-Hill. Now retired of course.
:00:36. > :00:43.Lorraine Ugen strides out in her last chance. It is a huge effort.
:00:44. > :00:50.Radford comes back. It was a big foul. CHEERING
:00:51. > :00:56.Well, Ugen, big smile on her face. That is the red flag. Only a
:00:57. > :01:00.marginal foul. I would love to have seen how far that was. Maybe alludes
:01:01. > :01:05.to the kind of form we might see outdoors but for now national
:01:06. > :01:16.record, silver medal and a brilliant performance from Lorraine Ugen. The
:01:17. > :01:21.stadium is full here in Belgrade. The Serbian capital. Spanovic
:01:22. > :01:28.assured of gold. Now, this is interesting. She knows she is in,
:01:29. > :01:42.well, incredible shape. Better than that, look at that series. The Brits
:01:43. > :01:48.embracing. But this is possibly a moment, an athlete who has hugely
:01:49. > :01:58.delivered, can she poll even more to impress the home crowd here? Last
:01:59. > :02:07.John. It is massive. She falls back. Into the sand. Well, it was a valid
:02:08. > :02:09.jump. Not sure it will be measured. If it is Iwobi from the back of her
:02:10. > :02:17.head. It doesn't matter. Ivanovic Spanovic in imperious form.
:02:18. > :02:38.Defending European champion. String of medals for the Brits here.
:02:39. > :02:45.How good is that last one, six .73? Minus your head. 7.24, the third
:02:46. > :02:51.best ever. Toni Minichiello, put that into context. Incredible
:02:52. > :03:00.jumping. 7.24, in front of her home crowd. She accelerates to the board,
:03:01. > :03:04.really pops off, incredible jumping. What did you make of the last effort
:03:05. > :03:08.from Lorraine Ugen? Phenomenal, just the smallest foul by Lorraine really
:03:09. > :03:15.stands up on the board, she puts out a straight leg and gets thrown into
:03:16. > :03:18.the sandpit. Rightfully deserving these young ladies getting a map of
:03:19. > :03:30.order. What a fantastic competition we have seen. -- lap of honour.
:03:31. > :03:39.Brilliant stuff, great scenes of joy from Lorraine Ugen. Injury last
:03:40. > :03:44.year. After brilliant form but what a performance. Like a single form
:03:45. > :03:50.would challenge for performance the championship. Other than what
:03:51. > :03:55.Spanovic has done across this long jump final. The best ever, 7.20
:03:56. > :04:09.four. She is incredible. -- STUDIO: It is tough when you have to
:04:10. > :04:13.deliver in front of a home crowd. We have seen it in recent Championships
:04:14. > :04:16.in the UK of course, the Olympics and Commonwealth Games. When you are
:04:17. > :04:21.the poster girl, there is a 60-metre host of her outside, she didn't just
:04:22. > :04:27.win that, she smashed it and obliteration of the she did.
:04:28. > :04:32.Pressure can be positive. The same with Jessica Ennis-Hill in London.
:04:33. > :04:40.It is still pressure. They loved, they use it. I have never seen long
:04:41. > :04:45.jumping quite like it. It was pretty impressive. But also Lorraine was
:04:46. > :04:53.sensational. To think we have three British girls getting the finals and
:04:54. > :04:58.capable of jumping over 6.90. Proctor of course not here, she has
:04:59. > :05:00.medal that the world champion chips, she can do it of course. Three of
:05:01. > :05:05.them looking to London to get into the final. This lady, Spanovic, will
:05:06. > :05:09.be looking to get to the top of the rostrum. She will have tough
:05:10. > :05:12.opposition from the Americans as we know, Paula, but a wonderful
:05:13. > :05:15.performance although I have to say when Steve said he cannot think of
:05:16. > :05:19.another performance of the accommodation, Paula said I can. She
:05:20. > :05:24.pointed to the lady next to her we will hear from in a minute because
:05:25. > :05:30.Laura Muir has joined us in the studio. But hats off that was
:05:31. > :05:33.incredible. That was amazing. I think they built on each other and
:05:34. > :05:36.got better performances out of each other but it is what these is
:05:37. > :05:41.saying, when you are in shape and you have the home crowd behind you
:05:42. > :05:46.it is only going to add to the performance. -- Denise. The problem
:05:47. > :05:50.comes when you are not in great shape but used to have the pressure.
:05:51. > :05:54.But when you come in here in shape. That is something we will talk to
:05:55. > :05:57.Laura Muir about in a moment with the watch every chips in London
:05:58. > :06:03.later this year. But right now let's take you back to yesterday, the
:06:04. > :06:13.start of the Gold rush for Laura. It was an incredible race. COMMENTATOR:
:06:14. > :06:20.The three best runners at the front, Laura Muir, making this a real test.
:06:21. > :06:28.Still building the pressure with 400 to go. On any other day you would
:06:29. > :06:34.not think Klosterhalfen could give her anything to worry about. Three
:06:35. > :06:42.are down to two, the talented German. She still has something left
:06:43. > :06:49.but Klosterhalfen would be the one most in the mould of Laura Muir, she
:06:50. > :06:55.has the strength and speed but she's not good enough to hang onto this.
:06:56. > :07:01.This is what we came to see. She is a class above everybody else. This
:07:02. > :07:06.is a display of distance running, a display of 1500 metre running that
:07:07. > :07:12.is at its very best. Laura Muir has waited for this moment for a few
:07:13. > :07:16.years now. That is that we saw at the world indoor Championships will
:07:17. > :07:23.be replaced by cheers as Laura Muir stretches away and comes to win the
:07:24. > :07:34.gold medal for Great Britain. European indoor champion and a new
:07:35. > :07:38.championship record. Six metres to go. Laura Muir, three laps of this
:07:39. > :07:44.track, where she has been since around the second or third lap. She
:07:45. > :07:47.has another look behind, I do not know what she was expecting but only
:07:48. > :07:56.one thing she will say is a very confident Laura Muir. They are
:07:57. > :08:00.waiting, Can might make one more big effort. I do not think Can has
:08:01. > :08:03.another big effort. I think the effort will come from Laura Muir
:08:04. > :08:08.when she feels the time is right. Maybe she is just looking up and
:08:09. > :08:18.seeing Maureen Koster is closing the gap much quicker than Steph Twell is
:08:19. > :08:23.overall to close the gap. Eilish: starting to make inroads. 300 metres
:08:24. > :08:27.left for Laura Muir and she is not hanging around. This is a chase
:08:28. > :08:31.against the clock. But how fast she is going. She still has a lap to go.
:08:32. > :08:42.I can tell you the championship record held by Fernanda Ribeiro is
:08:43. > :08:45.within reach, 8:39.49. The pace she is going, goodness me. Eilish
:08:46. > :08:53.McColgan has moved into fourth place. Nish McColgan chasing for
:08:54. > :08:56.bronze. But here is Laura Muir. Less than 100 metres to go. She already
:08:57. > :09:03.has one gold medal. She is storming away. An historic double of the
:09:04. > :09:09.European indoor champion chips. She now has two gold medals, she is the
:09:10. > :09:12.champion again and another record. Championship record has gone and
:09:13. > :09:18.Eilish McColgan is coming in for the gold medal. Can gets silver and
:09:19. > :09:28.Eilish McColgan with a superb last lap takes the bronze.
:09:29. > :09:34.You have done it, superb, well done. STUDIO: Incredible races and a
:09:35. > :09:39.brilliant performances from Laura Muir, she came into this
:09:40. > :09:43.championship with huge expectations and has delivered. We are delighted
:09:44. > :09:46.to say you have delivered yourself appear. The Portuguese at them in
:09:47. > :09:54.the background for the men's triple jump. -- anthem. You have had your
:09:55. > :09:57.moments on the rostrum. Tell me your overwhelming emotion. You came in
:09:58. > :10:02.with so much expectation. Nobody wanted to say you were a dead cert
:10:03. > :10:07.but there is always that possibility something goes wrong. It was my
:10:08. > :10:11.first time doubling up, 's races in three days. I did not know how my
:10:12. > :10:17.body would cope. Everybody talking about the double and I just hoped I
:10:18. > :10:22.would deliver. I am delighted. Relief? Definitely, after finishing
:10:23. > :10:27.today I thought thank goodness, that is it. Was it partly the exercise in
:10:28. > :10:32.doubling up with an eye on what is happening later in London? I have
:10:33. > :10:37.not done so many races back-to-back before. Considering the double in
:10:38. > :10:40.London we want to know if the body can handle it and test of the
:10:41. > :10:45.recovery strategies and see if there's anything we can change and
:10:46. > :10:49.improve. That would be the priority. It has all been about records so
:10:50. > :10:54.far, did you see the pressure that you did not want to just be smashing
:10:55. > :10:57.records but also winning medals. That is what they say, records are
:10:58. > :11:02.meant to be broken but the medals stay with you. It is great to be
:11:03. > :11:03.running fast but medals is what we are remembered for. I'm so pleased I
:11:04. > :11:14.have a couple. Hello, I there is so much more to
:11:15. > :11:20.come. Some of these records are very long-standing. The record she has
:11:21. > :11:27.just beaten, that stood for a long time. I don't know if you remember
:11:28. > :11:36.her, I remember her, that was a long time ago. That is important, that
:11:37. > :11:42.Laura is taking off records like that. We are campaigning to move
:11:43. > :11:47.forward and remove records of those who were caught cheating and replace
:11:48. > :11:52.them with good strong records. A lot of the commentators, alluded to the
:11:53. > :11:58.sessions that you do and say these are the kind of things that she will
:11:59. > :12:02.do. The people like me who do not do those sessions, just tell people the
:12:03. > :12:07.kind of session she have been doing and the kind of mileage you have
:12:08. > :12:12.been fitting end. I do not run as much mileage as some endurance
:12:13. > :12:23.athletes, but some of them are very high quality. We will do running for
:12:24. > :12:29.30 seconds, stop and then start, I am used to pushing my body. That has
:12:30. > :12:37.been the change that led to last year at the big breakthrough. It has
:12:38. > :12:46.not changed so much. Improving all the time. It is that building on it,
:12:47. > :12:52.it is the same session, but what Laura is seen is seen it builds up
:12:53. > :12:55.and seen the progression and those sessions, you're beating time and
:12:56. > :13:04.time again and that is giving her confidence. You will have time to
:13:05. > :13:09.think about it. I want to talk about small animals as well. There is
:13:10. > :13:14.Shelayne Oskan-Clarke who is about to get her silver medal. Steve Cram
:13:15. > :13:24.will talk you through the 800 metres medal ceremony. She has already
:13:25. > :13:28.received her bronze medal, but what a race we had between the two
:13:29. > :13:33.contenders here. Shelayne Oskan-Clarke getting the silver
:13:34. > :13:42.medal, losing out just by a shoulder. Great job from her, maybe
:13:43. > :13:48.a thought to her late coach, she is now coached by John Beggs and I am
:13:49. > :13:55.sure if he is looking down from somewhere on high, he will be very
:13:56. > :14:05.proud. She was so brave in terms of fighting all the way around, some
:14:06. > :14:10.elbows were flying between the two. But she held off Shelayne
:14:11. > :14:17.Oskan-Clarke, not only at the bell, but just on the line. Leaned across
:14:18. > :14:25.to make sure she defended her title. You have to really admire her
:14:26. > :14:28.fortitude as well. Came up as a national record, she ran a little
:14:29. > :14:33.bit quicker than the time she was given. That will not matter to her,
:14:34. > :15:38.she won the gold medal. That is twice now that Selina Buchel
:15:39. > :15:41.has won in a photo finish, she is pretty good at that, Shelayne
:15:42. > :15:45.Oskan-Clarke should be proud of her performance. The last time she was
:15:46. > :15:50.at these competitions she did not get out of the heats. Big
:15:51. > :15:53.improvement. She ran very well in real last year and she will be
:15:54. > :16:01.looking forward to later competitions. Well done to Shelayne
:16:02. > :16:06.Oskan-Clarke, but Steve, some blessed positive news is reaching
:16:07. > :16:11.us. Can you fill us in? Not long after that we had a great gold medal
:16:12. > :16:19.from Asha Philip and if you were watching, you may have seen, there
:16:20. > :16:25.were false starts. Asha Philip had a reaction of 1.102 and a conduct card
:16:26. > :16:33.came out to the Swiss athlete and we have just heard that the Swiss team
:16:34. > :16:36.have now put up road text in. Swoboda was third and Asha Philip
:16:37. > :16:40.won and they said that those athlete should have been disqualified. I do
:16:41. > :16:48.not think they are right and certainly they had a case against
:16:49. > :16:53.Swoboda. It did not look as though 38 did anything wrong. We can look
:16:54. > :17:00.at it. At the moment, I cannot see any reason why Asha Philip should be
:17:01. > :17:07.disqualified. She is in line six, Swoboda is on the far side and
:17:08. > :17:11.Mujinga Kambundji is on the far side. Mujinga Kambundji, if that was
:17:12. > :17:18.a conduct warning, it should have been before this point. I don't know
:17:19. > :17:21.why she received the yellow card. Swoboda was judged to have had the
:17:22. > :17:24.false start in lane one and back can only be something the starters would
:17:25. > :17:30.know from the reaction times that they get. No reason for me why Asha
:17:31. > :17:34.Philip would be disqualified. We will try and get more news on that
:17:35. > :17:39.but there is a protest in from the Swiss team. We will bring you any
:17:40. > :17:41.news on me get it. We are expecting that medal ceremony in the next 20
:17:42. > :17:58.minutes or so and they will not be able to do that until
:17:59. > :18:01.they clear this up. We will know something in the next half an hour
:18:02. > :18:04.or so and we will bring you any news. It has been an interesting few
:18:05. > :18:07.days in terms of starts. We did see that in the men's 1500, there was a
:18:08. > :18:10.false start. A faltering start. They can affect the longer distances but
:18:11. > :18:14.thankfully everything went OK for you Laura. Apollo was just asking
:18:15. > :18:23.whether or not that was a set plan now, doubling up in London. It is
:18:24. > :18:28.edging more towards yes than no. The results from the weekend show I am
:18:29. > :18:32.visibly able to do it. I am strong over the shorter and longer
:18:33. > :18:38.distances and running faster. I think we are edging towards things.
:18:39. > :18:45.Having the timetable usually works. How close she would have to do your
:18:46. > :18:49.heats? I am lucky, it works well. The 1500 is at the start of the
:18:50. > :18:54.programme, that this Friday Saturday and Monday and I will have some days
:18:55. > :19:02.of rest and then the Thursday to the Sunday. It is good for us, we get a
:19:03. > :19:05.lot of Laura! The reason I asked, because it has been said that the
:19:06. > :19:12.timetable does not work. She is going to go five K and ten K which
:19:13. > :19:17.leaves the 1500 metres. It would have been great to see Laura go up
:19:18. > :19:29.against terror and the terror. That would have been great, but it leaves
:19:30. > :19:37.the 15, left -- see Laura go up against her and beat her. We will
:19:38. > :19:44.need to see what happens. You're not running home, you are flying home.
:19:45. > :19:50.Tuesday, tell everyone what happens. Nine o'clock on Tuesday morning, I
:19:51. > :19:53.will be back on placement. You will be out there helping animals and in
:19:54. > :19:59.the evening doing these really impossible sessions on the track.
:20:00. > :20:07.That is the aim. He might give her an easy week this week! Of course in
:20:08. > :20:12.two years' time, this whole thing it moves to Glasgow and you are part of
:20:13. > :20:17.the handing over ceremony, they were handing over the flag an hour or so
:20:18. > :20:22.ago and a great moment, because for you, two years' time, who knows what
:20:23. > :20:28.form you will be in, the kind of records, what a wonderful thing to
:20:29. > :20:33.look forward to, and other home championships. I trained in the
:20:34. > :20:39.Glasgow venue a lot, it is my home town. It is perfect. I saw the
:20:40. > :20:44.reception that athletes got last year, it was brilliant, I think it
:20:45. > :20:48.will be a fantastic atmosphere. The question on the lips of a lot of
:20:49. > :20:53.people, we discussed it ourselves, can you really go back to full-time
:20:54. > :20:58.study after the kinds of experiences you are having now and in terms of
:20:59. > :21:03.the form that you are in? Is it compromising what you have achieved?
:21:04. > :21:07.That is what I am going to do. One week after London, I will be
:21:08. > :21:13.starting fifth year, that was the target. If I'm going to finish my
:21:14. > :21:25.studies, that is it. I am definitely doing it. We will be able to call
:21:26. > :21:34.you Doctor! Yes six what do you think has been the most significant
:21:35. > :21:38.turnaround in your performances? This new rich vein of form, I think
:21:39. > :21:44.is fantastic, the confidence you exude when you step onto the track.
:21:45. > :21:48.It has come from racing experience. I was training really hard and I
:21:49. > :21:52.progress so quickly and I did not have time to catch up mentally and
:21:53. > :21:56.tactics wise, I was running these fast times, but it is different when
:21:57. > :22:02.it is tactical races and I just need practice. I have learned new things
:22:03. > :22:07.and learned how I can run races and not run races. It is just practising
:22:08. > :22:14.again and again. It is maturity as well. Laura was brought through
:22:15. > :22:18.pretty late, to get involved and running the fast times is one thing,
:22:19. > :22:26.but it is learning to race and it is getting stronger. It is dealing with
:22:27. > :22:33.the pressure, I was so nervous. I did not deal with it very well. When
:22:34. > :22:42.I am more relaxed, I race better. The heptathlete are out now for
:22:43. > :22:46.their final event. It has been a stunning climax to the competition.
:22:47. > :22:51.Thank you so much for joining us, you have given us so much joy.
:22:52. > :22:56.Congratulations, keep it going. We're really excited to see what you
:22:57. > :23:03.can do this season. Thank you. Let's get back out there, it is the
:23:04. > :23:14.heptathlon and it is the 1000 metres. I will do my best. I will
:23:15. > :23:19.show you the standings. Kevin Mayer is the outstanding man. He is
:23:20. > :23:25.untouchable here. Look out for the Serbian, Mihail Dudas, he might be
:23:26. > :23:31.able to overhaul the Czech competitor who is in the bronze
:23:32. > :23:35.medal position. Ashley Bryant suffered in the pole vault and Liam
:23:36. > :23:40.Ramsey as well, they both struggled in the pole vault and tumbled down
:23:41. > :23:46.the leaderboard. They are in tenth and 14th position. Kevin Mayer,
:23:47. > :23:57.great pride for leading the team Ashley Bryant, but for a while, the
:23:58. > :24:02.pole vault has been his weakness. It was 4.50 in the pole vault and 4.204
:24:03. > :24:12.Liam Ramsey but there is Kevin Mayer.
:24:13. > :24:19.Kevin Mayer leads by a distance, he will not be caught Bahrain a
:24:20. > :24:25.miracle. He is chasing the European record and he should get those
:24:26. > :24:34.records. He will just fall short of the world record. In silver medal
:24:35. > :24:41.position, it is Jorge Urena. He is ahead of 24, he is keen to hold onto
:24:42. > :24:44.the bronze medal position -- Adam Sebastian Helcelet. Most of the
:24:45. > :24:54.crowd here will be willing Mihail Dudas to hunt him down.
:24:55. > :25:02.He is the Serbian record-holder. He needs to beat Adam Sebastian
:25:03. > :25:07.Helcelet by about 4.7 seconds. His personal best is about three seconds
:25:08. > :25:11.quicker. With home support, the hope is he could find that. Adam
:25:12. > :25:17.Sebastian Helcelet will try and keep Mihail Dudas in his sights. Ashley
:25:18. > :25:22.Bryant and Liam Ramsay at the bottom of the picture, looking for a
:25:23. > :25:27.personal best year to finish on a high, but Kevin Mayer who is an
:25:28. > :25:32.outstanding 1,000-metre runner is looking for a time to take this. He
:25:33. > :25:37.will surely take the gold. Mihail Dudas in front of him at the moment.
:25:38. > :25:42.Adam Sebastian Helcelet, in the red vest behind, he is trying to keep
:25:43. > :25:47.Mihail Dudas in his sights, Adam Sebastian Helcelet is in a bronze
:25:48. > :25:55.position. Kevin Mayer, he is a 2.37 runner, would need to run about 2.26
:25:56. > :25:59.to get the record. He needs 2.4 for only for the European record. Kevin
:26:00. > :26:01.Mayer, it should be a glorious few laps of honour and it should be a
:26:02. > :26:18.record. It should indeed. Both those records are in threat by
:26:19. > :26:23.Kevin Mayer, he is a superb athlete but the big cheers are for this
:26:24. > :26:29.band, the Serbian, Mihail Dudas, moving ahead of Ashley Bryant. The
:26:30. > :26:33.Big men are suffering, this is torture for a big powerful athletes,
:26:34. > :26:39.they are beginning to string out, as they lap the five maps of the 1000
:26:40. > :26:44.metres. The final event out of seven. Ashley Bryant had a couple of
:26:45. > :26:46.difficult days, it has slipped through his fingers. Kevin Mayer
:26:47. > :27:00.looking comfortable. He knows the gold medal
:27:01. > :27:02.is his. He looks determined, may be in hunt of those titles, but the
:27:03. > :27:09.Championship record and the European record are in his sights. The German
:27:10. > :27:18.is out in front. He is in 12 place, so they will ignore him. Mihail
:27:19. > :27:20.Dudas has to beat Adam Sebastian Helcelet by almost five seconds.
:27:21. > :27:29.Adam Sebastian Helcelet looks like he is right at the back. Brugger out
:27:30. > :27:33.in front. Ashley Bryant going well. Kevin Mayer is in sixth place but
:27:34. > :27:40.Adam Sebastian Helcelet is coming through. He looks to be about four
:27:41. > :27:49.seconds behind. Mihail Dudas is striving on. Brugger out in front.
:27:50. > :27:52.Lifted by this crowd, looking for a bronze medal, Mayer going for the
:27:53. > :28:05.gold and the record, the Championship record. Mihail Dudas!
:28:06. > :28:08.What a sorry end for Mihail Dudas. Mayer is the champion. He will have
:28:09. > :28:23.the Championship record and the European record but what happened to
:28:24. > :28:28.Mihail Dudas? 2.41 432 macro. -- 2.41 four Mayer.
:28:29. > :28:34.He will consult the man who in front of his home crowd, had it all, the
:28:35. > :28:43.bronze medal was there for him and it all fell away in such a dramatic
:28:44. > :28:48.finish for Mihail Dudas. Mayer was always going to get the gold medal
:28:49. > :28:55.but in terms of sporting drama, all the drama was caused by Mihail
:28:56. > :29:00.Dudas. What drama there, disappointment for the Serbian,
:29:01. > :29:07.athletes talk about giving it their all, you cannot accuse him of giving
:29:08. > :29:11.anything less. There is a lot of attention on him. Look at this. He
:29:12. > :29:13.comes down the home straight, 40 metres left but he cannot stay on
:29:14. > :29:23.his feet. fast and powerful men get tired more
:29:24. > :29:28.quickly, the lactic acid flowing through the big muscles. They are
:29:29. > :29:33.not made for this endurance. We saw this happening to Sprunger. Giving
:29:34. > :29:37.everything in front of the home crowd. His mind wanted it and asked
:29:38. > :29:42.more than his body could give because this is lactic flooding the
:29:43. > :29:49.lakes and suddenly Bambi, nothing there. You have been there in the
:29:50. > :29:52.park. You have visited that place. Not so much at stake. But it is
:29:53. > :30:00.painful to watch because there is absolutely nothing you can do. The
:30:01. > :30:06.Moore has two settle outside the medals but no doubt about the
:30:07. > :30:18.champion, Kevin Meyer, new European indoor record, championship record
:30:19. > :30:29.head of great records. Kevin Meyer of France. Paul Mihail Dudas.
:30:30. > :30:45.Nothing more to give around the final bend. About four seconds
:30:46. > :30:52.clear. Those records you talk about, Mihail Dudas says I give you
:30:53. > :30:59.everything. Do not have given any more. It wasn't to be. Kevin Mayer
:31:00. > :31:12.is the man now. Ashton Ethan is gone and he will be the man to chase at
:31:13. > :31:50.the World Championships the silver medal and the bronze.
:31:51. > :32:02.That was the incredibly dramatic end to the heptathlon. While we are
:32:03. > :32:11.looking at those placings. Tough event. Having one or two technical
:32:12. > :32:17.problems here in the stadium. While you are. Some further news. On the
:32:18. > :32:24.protest for Asha Phillip. It is good news. This in a protest about the
:32:25. > :32:31.60-metre final. Asha Phillip confirmed as gold-medallist. At the
:32:32. > :32:43.moment the only protest remains against the third-place, the Swiss
:32:44. > :32:46.athlete who finished fourth. The good news is Asha Phillip has
:32:47. > :32:50.definitely retained in the gold medal position. We are expecting her
:32:51. > :32:55.to be coming out for the medal ceremony very shortly. And lasting
:32:56. > :33:03.worth it be presenting those medals. The heptathlete just about finishing
:33:04. > :33:12.their lap of honour. Couple of relays to look forward to. The women
:33:13. > :33:15.is still to come. Great Britain and Northern Ireland do not have the
:33:16. > :33:28.team in the men's. Wonderful athlete by Kevin Mayer. Well deserved lap of
:33:29. > :33:31.honour. Drama for Mihail Dudas, tying up and unable to overhaul the
:33:32. > :33:36.bronze model. It has been a wonderful final day, good crowds.
:33:37. > :33:40.Rather sparsely populated on the first day but the final day has
:33:41. > :33:48.lived in terms of atmosphere and in terms of drama. Wasn't too dramatic
:33:49. > :33:54.men's eight-metre final, unlike the women's. Because of the protest in
:33:55. > :34:03.the 60 metres that has been delayed a bit of it. The men's 800 metres up
:34:04. > :34:06.next. I suppose in any championships there are red-hot favourites, Laura
:34:07. > :34:13.Muir is certainly one of them. Probably in the men's 800 metres
:34:14. > :34:25.another red-hot favourite was at the shop. He certainly delivered in fine
:34:26. > :34:29.style. -- Adam Kszczot stop three Spaniards in the race, a Spanish
:34:30. > :34:34.friend of mine bought Kevin Lopez might be the main contender. Paul
:34:35. > :34:43.and I both agreed it looked good in the semifinals. It was the new
:34:44. > :34:46.Spaniard if you like, de Arriba, who had finished second to La Paz in the
:34:47. > :34:50.national Championship, who came through strongly in the end and
:34:51. > :34:58.managed to take bronze. Salchow, former European indoor champion.
:34:59. > :35:11.Back in 1977 in San Sebastian, only 40 years ago... It seems like
:35:12. > :35:19.yesterday. Not. Ran in San Juan last week, 10 km in under 15 minutes.
:35:20. > :35:23.Still got it. Alvaro Quiros either, the time is not really important. It
:35:24. > :35:41.was a bit of a messy race. Bit of a sandwich.
:35:42. > :35:48.He managed to squeeze through for the bronze medal. Spain and Poland
:35:49. > :35:58.both have a good record in this event. Nice to see Denmark getting
:35:59. > :36:09.on the rostrum. That famous day Wilson Kipketer, the Kenyan who
:36:10. > :36:17.turned the initial course. Andries Bube giving them a welcome medal.
:36:18. > :36:21.Kszczot was able to respond. Great Britain on this three times in a
:36:22. > :36:27.row, David Sharp followed by Steve Heard and Tom McKean. That is what
:36:28. > :36:34.has happened just recently with Poland, Kszczot Lewandowski, now for
:36:35. > :36:39.in a row as Kszczot has done this three times and Lewandowski once.
:36:40. > :36:49.Poland ruling the roost in the men's 800 metres indoors. The winning time
:36:50. > :36:53.was a little bit irrelevant. Probably not a memorable race for
:36:54. > :36:57.most but I'm sure for Adam Kszczot, he will be as proud as for any of
:36:58. > :38:02.his other achievements. Well, Kszczot, that was nice, for
:38:03. > :38:06.all three of them to be standing on the winner 's podium. Normally they
:38:07. > :38:12.gave afterwards. But they jumped up there. While the anthems were
:38:13. > :38:18.playing. The medal ceremony now being followed we think pretty soon
:38:19. > :38:23.by the women's 60 metres. We are still waiting for the job of to is
:38:24. > :38:26.that Asha Phillip is definitely on the gold medal in that. I'm pleased
:38:27. > :38:35.about that because that helps me with my five gold medal elections.
:38:36. > :38:41.Only the 4x4 races to come. No men's team of course but very hopeful we
:38:42. > :38:47.can do well in the women's 4x400m. Four some Mihail Dudas news, he has
:38:48. > :38:52.been disqualified. We thought he might have stepped out of the track.
:38:53. > :38:56.As he was floundering. So not even fourth place. Not sure he will be
:38:57. > :39:01.concerned about that. It was all about trying to get the bronze medal
:39:02. > :39:07.but disqualified, Mihail Dudas. Sad end to the men's heptathlon for
:39:08. > :39:14.Mihail Dudas. It was one in such fine style by Kevin Mayer. Not far
:39:15. > :39:22.away now from the metal assembly for Asha Phillip in the women's 60
:39:23. > :39:30.metres. And a reminder of some of the moments of these championships.
:39:31. > :39:34.They have been pretty successful. Sometimes the event is another
:39:35. > :39:39.strong and European indoors, some of the major athletes sometimes stay
:39:40. > :39:43.away and concentrate elsewhere. Today we have seen some athletics of
:39:44. > :39:49.the very highest calibre. Some great performances and good noise inside
:39:50. > :39:52.the stadium. Richly entertaining. Some highlights of what has been an
:39:53. > :39:58.incredible day and a great for Great Britain as well. We could end up
:39:59. > :40:07.with seven medals today. One more opportunity to come in the 4x400m as
:40:08. > :40:14.we said. But now it is going to be the high jump medals ceremony,
:40:15. > :40:20.Steve. Bobby Grabarz was so close. Really close. He was very much in
:40:21. > :40:29.control of the competition in the early stages. But had to settle for
:40:30. > :40:37.second best when it came to the sort of business end of the competition
:40:38. > :40:47.because Bednarek was really good when it mattered. He came in as a
:40:48. > :40:53.2.33 man, not great fun from champs. Surprised bronze-medallist in 2009
:40:54. > :41:03.but no real pressure to dog of. The three medallists introduced to the
:41:04. > :41:24.crowd. Pretty entertaining session it has to be said.
:41:25. > :41:41.The bronze-medallist being introduced, Seliverstau now. Very
:41:42. > :41:46.popular man, I came through the junior ranks with him, seems like
:41:47. > :41:56.only yesterday... Very smart. Natty bowtie and pocket square, Asian.
:41:57. > :42:05.Seliverstau now of the Belarus, very impressive indeed. -- combination.
:42:06. > :42:14.Just 20 years of age. On the lookout in the future. Dramatic event as we
:42:15. > :42:27.saw today. Next up with his Robbie Grabarz to be introduced for his
:42:28. > :42:31.silver medal. Well, he looked pleased when he walked through the
:42:32. > :42:35.mixed zone, he had a smile and a quick chat with Phil Jones. He
:42:36. > :42:40.seemed pretty pleased, reflective, he had an appendage removed just six
:42:41. > :42:42.weeks ago and now he is stored on the rostrum at the major
:42:43. > :42:52.championships. That shows what is made of. He loves the pressure,
:42:53. > :43:06.responded well to it. The champion of the men's high jump. And the
:43:07. > :43:13.biggest cheer for the champion from Poland, he looked under pressure, so
:43:14. > :43:18.much action as happened is that he clattered into the bar. We thought
:43:19. > :43:26.maybe it had unravelled for him but he composed himself well, first-time
:43:27. > :43:31.clearance at the 2.32 was enough to take gold. Big smile from Bednarek
:43:32. > :44:26.and the Polish national anthem. The chair for the medallists. Had to
:44:27. > :44:28.lick his wounds through the autumn training after not qualifying in the
:44:29. > :44:44.16. Outdoor champion for a few years
:44:45. > :45:02.back. Another medal for Great Britain, for Robbie Grabarz.
:45:03. > :45:13.It is the women's 4x400 metres coming out, we will join that in a
:45:14. > :45:19.second. Lord Coe has joined us. Your thoughts on the whole thing. On two
:45:20. > :45:26.counts it has been fantastic. We have had more people here than ever
:45:27. > :45:31.before. There is clearly a good appetite for the sport, particularly
:45:32. > :45:37.in doors, and you cannot pick fault with the British performance. It is
:45:38. > :45:44.early season, it is a fabulous platform for London. Some fresh
:45:45. > :45:50.faces, new winners emerging. A few of them will be running in the relay
:45:51. > :45:54.in just a moment. We will talk to you a lot more but we need to get on
:45:55. > :45:59.with the action, running a little bit behind, the schedule has been
:46:00. > :46:05.delayed for various reasons. We will join Steve Cram who will talk you
:46:06. > :46:11.through. You just saw the Polish Quartet, they will be a big threat,
:46:12. > :46:18.so will France, Italy not so much, Great Britain weakened by the fact
:46:19. > :46:30.that 46 macro cannot compete. They will do a little tribute to her --
:46:31. > :46:36.Lina Nielsen. That is to their team made in respect of her not been able
:46:37. > :46:48.to compete with an injury. Syllable Lowell comes in. She has to try and
:46:49. > :47:03.help along with 54 macro to content for this medal. What sort of metal?
:47:04. > :47:07.That remains to be seen. Experience counts on the first leg. Phillipa
:47:08. > :47:13.Lowe run well at the British Championships, was not far behind
:47:14. > :47:20.the Nielsens. Mary Iheke will go on the third leg, she is a training
:47:21. > :47:23.partner of the two Nielsens. Maybe that will give her a bit of
:47:24. > :47:29.confidence that she will be handing over to a training partner, Laviai
:47:30. > :47:34.Nielsen who just missed out on an individual medal. Where are the
:47:35. > :47:46.dangers? They will come from France. France have got the gold-medallist
:47:47. > :47:55.28 on the final leg and also Poland -- Floria Guei. Justyna Swiety is on
:47:56. > :48:03.the last leg for Poland. We expect Nielsen, Justyna Swiety and Floria
:48:04. > :48:11.Guei to be close together. That is on the last leg. She was so
:48:12. > :48:14.disappointed not to make it through to the individual final and
:48:15. > :48:22.therefore will be full of determination to get her team off to
:48:23. > :48:33.a good start. This is a little bit similar to 2015, a weakened team,
:48:34. > :48:38.and they ran about 3.31. That will maybe be around the run this time.
:48:39. > :48:47.It could be good enough to win a gold medal. Our best team in doors
:48:48. > :48:55.ever was in 2013 where Eilidh Doyle did lead the team, but she had
:48:56. > :48:59.different runners. That was still a British record in doors.
:49:00. > :49:09.It is going to be exciting, a final chance for Great Britain, no men's
:49:10. > :49:14.team, of course, let us see if we are expecting a bit of drama. France
:49:15. > :49:22.with Floria Guei, they want to be in touch, for her, a great relay
:49:23. > :49:29.runner, a consistent and strong quartet. No witnesses. Those are the
:49:30. > :49:35.three main contenders. Ukraine are often strong, Germany, you cannot
:49:36. > :49:40.count them out with the likes of 68. Poland have a great strength across
:49:41. > :49:44.the quartet. I think if France can get Floria Guei in any sort of
:49:45. > :49:50.position, it is there a gold medal -- Ruth Sophia Spelmeyer. They will
:49:51. > :49:58.still have hopes that they can hang on to the three others, Great
:49:59. > :50:03.Britain, with one or two, I guess nervous, Mary looks nervous, but
:50:04. > :50:10.Laviai Nielsen sitting at the back on the fourth and looks a picture of
:50:11. > :50:19.concentration. A little raise of the eyebrows. Floria Guei to her right.
:50:20. > :50:23.Philippa Lowe closest to the camera there on the second leg and she
:50:24. > :50:28.looks ready to go. If Eilidh Doyle comes in on the lead here as she has
:50:29. > :50:33.every opportunity of doing so, I think she will be ahead of Sananes
:50:34. > :50:39.and Ruth Sophia Spelmeyer of Germany. I expect Great Britain to
:50:40. > :50:44.be leading on the first leg. There is that impetus, that drive for
:50:45. > :50:55.Eilidh Doyle, of just been so disappointed after the individual
:50:56. > :51:01.work she tried to keep pace. Starters are in a game. He will tell
:51:02. > :51:04.the athletes to go and relax and do a couple of strides, because we have
:51:05. > :51:18.a problem again, Houston. OK, while we are waiting for this to
:51:19. > :51:24.sort itself out, it gives us a good opportunity to hear from the new
:51:25. > :51:28.record-holder in the long jump and silver-medallist, Lorraine Ugen. We
:51:29. > :51:31.caught up with her after her performance. Congratulations,
:51:32. > :51:35.another medal to add to your collection and you nailed it from
:51:36. > :51:39.the start. I knew I had to come out here and give it one of the best
:51:40. > :51:45.chance of my life. I knew it would be tricky to compete with span of
:51:46. > :51:48.edge and I tried to nail it. We saw how relaxed you work, you were
:51:49. > :51:54.playing to the cameras, how much did you enjoy it? Normally when they do
:51:55. > :51:57.stuff like that, I enjoy it, I know some people can be stiff but I like
:51:58. > :52:03.to have fun with it and do something silly. We talked about what it might
:52:04. > :52:07.be like, did it live up to expectations? It was crazy. The
:52:08. > :52:12.crowd was going crazy when she was jumping, which reminds me, guys,
:52:13. > :52:15.London, the World Championships this summer, make sure you are there so
:52:16. > :52:20.we can have the home-court advantage. They have seen what it
:52:21. > :52:24.can do, it catapulted you to a huge personal best. You did that yourself
:52:25. > :52:29.today, you were inspired by the crowd and a new national record. I
:52:30. > :52:33.am happy to follow that up with another national record and I am
:52:34. > :52:37.hoping to have many more big jumps in the outdoor season. Well done,
:52:38. > :52:43.enjoy the moment, you have been a big part of it. Well done. Thank
:52:44. > :52:46.you. She is a great competitor, she pulls out the big jumps on the big
:52:47. > :52:51.stage and she is turning into someone you have to keep your eye on
:52:52. > :53:03.with the World Championships coming up. Absolutely. You have Katarina
:53:04. > :53:07.Johnson-Thompson, and Shara Proctor, a fantastic vein of form for British
:53:08. > :53:13.jumping but top of that is definitely Lorraine, she has been
:53:14. > :53:18.superb. It is pertinent, as we sit here waiting for this relay to go
:53:19. > :53:23.off, that if there is a criticism of the last few days, the timekeeping,
:53:24. > :53:29.ironically, has not been very good, has it? It has not been perfect. I
:53:30. > :53:34.know from the broadcasters, they have been struggling a bit and I was
:53:35. > :53:39.doing a medal ceremony which was about 15 minutes late. There have
:53:40. > :53:46.been quite a few appeals and clearly the technology in the sprints has
:53:47. > :53:50.been a bit of a problem. Especially the woman's 60 hurdles, it seems to
:53:51. > :53:55.be lanes one and eight causing the problems. Do we have any idea why
:53:56. > :53:58.that is? We have heard all kinds of theories. You will probably get a
:53:59. > :54:03.better answer from the European guys then you will out of me on this one.
:54:04. > :54:08.I do not know. There is clearly an issue. We do not know when this will
:54:09. > :54:11.go off, I wanted the opportunity to chat to you about the bigger
:54:12. > :54:15.picture, one of the things we have not heard a lot about, the guys
:54:16. > :54:19.mentioned it in commentary, but you can explain more, you are pleased
:54:20. > :54:23.that we have sorted out the nationality issue and the process
:54:24. > :54:27.going forward, explain what the issue is. In simple terms it is
:54:28. > :54:32.transfer of allegiance and I have been struck over the years of
:54:33. > :54:35.watching a lot of athletics, a lot of cross country, but I am watching
:54:36. > :54:39.teams who do not start the season with the same athletes that they are
:54:40. > :54:43.ending the season with. I went to the world Cross country
:54:44. > :54:50.Championships, sort of celebrated on the podium with one team that had
:54:51. > :54:54.borne the women's and men's events, got bronze medals in both events and
:54:55. > :54:57.was not a single athlete from that country in that team. I have got
:54:58. > :55:02.Federation President is telling me they wake up some mornings to an
:55:03. > :55:07.e-mail with a list of athletes that are basically up for sale. This is
:55:08. > :55:13.no way to create... What have you done? We have frozen all transfers
:55:14. > :55:16.of allegiance, that is what it is cold and in simple terms, we will
:55:17. > :55:21.come back with a set of proposals by the end of the year and until those
:55:22. > :55:25.proposals are in place and they are workable and we have rewritten the
:55:26. > :55:29.rules around it, there will be no more changes between now and the end
:55:30. > :55:34.of the season and in the lead up to the last Olympics, we were
:55:35. > :55:45.confronted by about 30 transfer of allegiance requests in the couple of
:55:46. > :55:47.weeks leading up to the Championship. You had to make
:55:48. > :55:49.constitutional changes. No, actually the constitutional changes we got
:55:50. > :55:51.through in December and the workaround that now is underway.
:55:52. > :55:53.This was something I felt strongly about, it did not need a
:55:54. > :55:58.constitutional change, I drove it through the council and my council
:55:59. > :56:03.colleagues agreed to support it. We are just hearing an update that it
:56:04. > :56:08.is the starters gun and microphone that are broken. You could not make
:56:09. > :56:12.this up, for the penultimate race of this Championship. It is not great
:56:13. > :56:16.for the TV audience at home waiting for this and it is not great for the
:56:17. > :56:29.athletes who are out there waiting to run. I am amazed they do not have
:56:30. > :56:31.a replacement or a one waiting in the wings. We have reserves for the
:56:32. > :56:34.teams. They might have dropped it in that 1500 run. There was definitely
:56:35. > :56:39.something going on there. Maybe they have already used their back-up. It
:56:40. > :56:44.is not good enough. It has been very shoddy and I think it is unfair for
:56:45. > :56:48.the athletes who have prepared, they have got their warm up times and
:56:49. > :56:52.they are mentally in the zone and they are having to pause. I think
:56:53. > :56:57.the other issue in the sprint, if you have a false start in a 3000,
:56:58. > :57:02.with all due respect, you're not eating into too many systems, I have
:57:03. > :57:06.noticed that some of the sprinters have been 30 paces down the track
:57:07. > :57:22.when the recall gun has gone and that does eat into
:57:23. > :57:26.acceleration and impact on the second run. We have some white smoke
:57:27. > :57:29.coming from the news from the starters area. We have got a new
:57:30. > :57:32.garden and it looks like it is being wired up. I would say that is a
:57:33. > :57:34.positive side to see. Is that positive enough? They are straight
:57:35. > :57:38.on their marks. It has been a long wait for these athletes and let us
:57:39. > :57:44.hope that the gun works. I did have a whistle, we could have done it the
:57:45. > :57:49.old-fashioned way. Here we go. Great Britain in lane five, Eilidh Doyle
:57:50. > :57:53.leading them off. France in lane two. Poland in lane three, Italy and
:57:54. > :57:59.four and Ukraine in sex and Germany on the in in lane one. Eilidh Doyle
:58:00. > :58:05.has gone quickly, she will want to dominate in this first 200m, it is
:58:06. > :58:08.two lapse from each of the athletes who will break after the second bend
:58:09. > :58:14.and Eilidh Doyle will come across in the lead with Poland chasing and
:58:15. > :58:19.Poland have kept their better athletes on the second and fourth
:58:20. > :58:22.leg. Britain have gone for the first leg and the fourth leg. Eilidh Doyle
:58:23. > :58:32.has to stay out in front and keep the lead and Philippa Lowe will be
:58:33. > :58:37.chased down. As you expect, it is a strong start from Eilidh Doyle and
:58:38. > :58:44.look at the gap she has a of Poland. Perhaps there are strongest runner
:58:45. > :58:45.is to come. Ukraine in a strong position with 55-macro taking it
:58:46. > :59:00.over. Ukraine and Poland and France
:59:01. > :59:09.chasing. They are looking to get Floria Guei in Zeeshan on the anchor
:59:10. > :59:15.leg. They are closing in. -- in position. Philippa did well to go
:59:16. > :59:18.out hard. You expect that hopefully she can respond and go away again
:59:19. > :59:27.and that is exactly what she's doing. She is going to hand over to
:59:28. > :59:31.Mary Iheke on the final leg. Philippa Lowe has done well and
:59:32. > :59:37.moves away. France are going to be five metres adrift. Mary Iheke gets
:59:38. > :59:44.the bat, Poland on her shoulder. With Iga Baumgart, the tall figure.
:59:45. > :59:49.Mary needs to run solid. France has got work to do, their worst run on
:59:50. > :59:56.this leg. If Britain can get some daylight that means Guei will have
:59:57. > :00:02.some tough task. Just keep going. Mary Iheke trying to hold off Lahm
:00:03. > :00:08..com who was a semifinalist here. She moves past Mary Iheke, who must
:00:09. > :00:11.not panic, but must not let Baumgart get too far ahead. Behind her
:00:12. > :00:16.Ukraine are closing and France are still in there. Evenly spaced out.
:00:17. > :00:19.Four metres between them. Very strong run by
:00:20. > :00:30.Iga Baumgart. Poland in prime position. Mary Iheke has run well.
:00:31. > :00:36.Poland lead, great Britain in second. Huge gap back to Floria Guei
:00:37. > :00:44.for France, surely she is not going to come back. Cannot get back,
:00:45. > :00:47.impossible. Can levy a Nielsen run down the person who ran out of the
:00:48. > :00:52.bronze medal in the individual. She wants to try to get close, it would
:00:53. > :00:59.be a huge performance. Swiety in the lead. Swiety will try to hold her. A
:01:00. > :01:03.Nielsen has two pick a moment. She has worked hard to get up to her. It
:01:04. > :01:09.is between Poland and Great Britain for the gold medal. Swiety has
:01:10. > :01:13.surely kept something. What has Nielsen got left? Swiety stretches
:01:14. > :01:18.way, Nielsen looks spent, she needs to keep going. Poland pulling away,
:01:19. > :01:24.she will get gold. What a day for them and a silver medal for
:01:25. > :01:31.Edmonton, well done. The winning time, I said Britain could run about
:01:32. > :01:36.3:30 and that is what they did. Ukraine delighted with their bronze
:01:37. > :01:43.medal. France let down by their third leg, too much for Floria Guei
:01:44. > :01:46.to do on the final leg. Nielsen gave everything, she is so well matched
:01:47. > :01:50.with Swiety, she had to give her five metres. When you have worked
:01:51. > :01:56.hard the poll have the ability to sit back a little bit and then go
:01:57. > :02:05.again. The splits for Eilidh Doyle 53.1, Philippa Lowe 53.1, Mary
:02:06. > :02:10.Iheke, big run from her, 53 flat, great run on the third leg. Then
:02:11. > :02:16.Nielsen on the final leg 51.9 stop well done to all four of them.
:02:17. > :02:22.Superb silver medal. Always going to be silver when Swiety had the
:02:23. > :02:25.pattern with the lead because she finished just ahead of Latvia
:02:26. > :02:29.Nielsen in the individual. It was a sensible run by the Polish Quartet,
:02:30. > :02:34.Swiety in particular. She happily, she did not go off too fast. Nielsen
:02:35. > :02:40.was working so hard. At this point you have spent so much energy, never
:02:41. > :02:44.going to be about to get past. Swiety was the bronze-medallist in
:02:45. > :02:49.the individual 400 metres so the gap just opened up again. Swiety able to
:02:50. > :02:57.find extra energy but a very good run by levy a Nielsen. 51.9. Very
:02:58. > :03:00.good run from Swiety. Good silver medal for Britain. We talked about
:03:01. > :03:06.the strength throughout this Polish quartet, there is no weak link so
:03:07. > :03:11.they had consistency, good runner to take them on, Baumgart rent very
:03:12. > :03:13.well and the monarchy with a sensible run, deservedly levelled
:03:14. > :03:18.with a good silver from Great Britain and Northern Ireland. West
:03:19. > :03:22.well done from Ukraine, bit of a surprise. Floria Guei was too far
:03:23. > :03:32.down for France. Silver medal to finish from Great Britain. Still the
:03:33. > :03:35.men's 4x4 to come but no representation from Britain. Bright
:03:36. > :03:38.new talent from Great Britain, Poland doing very well, what a day
:03:39. > :03:43.they have had, we have had a good day but they have had a great day.
:03:44. > :03:46.Gold to Poland. STUDIO: Congratulations, silver medal to the
:03:47. > :03:53.end of the team volunteer for Great Britain, they are not competing in
:03:54. > :03:56.the men's 4x400m. And I think brave and gutsy attempt from Latvia
:03:57. > :04:03.Nielsen on the final leg. It is so tough with attracting smaller, you
:04:04. > :04:12.only have a small home straight. It really looks short but those bends,
:04:13. > :04:15.trying to make their mark. The margin to take your... I cannot get
:04:16. > :04:21.my website. So fantastic for the team. But this was the middle of the
:04:22. > :04:27.championships. Last time we talked about this there had been an appeal
:04:28. > :04:31.from the Swiss, but that came to nothing and Asha Phillip retains
:04:32. > :04:38.that gold medal. An emotional moment. For all of these athletes
:04:39. > :04:42.but we are so delighted for Asha that she has backed up the
:04:43. > :04:48.conference her Olympic bronze medal gave her. She showed that when you
:04:49. > :04:51.are on a roll and the Olympic medal kicked them onto that and she has
:04:52. > :04:54.gone away and train them performed well this season. But in these
:04:55. > :05:04.championships she has just grown every round. That will give her a
:05:05. > :05:07.big boost. The other girls as well who train with. That will give them
:05:08. > :05:15.a boost in the relay squad. We have that time and again. Falsely with
:05:16. > :05:18.Laura Muir, with Latvia Nielsen, so many of these young athletes coming
:05:19. > :05:23.in and taking a massive step forward. British record as well for
:05:24. > :05:31.Asha Phillip. She needed it because it was such a tight race. Very
:05:32. > :05:36.similar time is getting to these championships. And she produced the
:05:37. > :06:46.goods and really gives the moment. Asha Phillip with her gold medal,
:06:47. > :06:51.wonderful moment for Great Britain amongst so many. And a look at the
:06:52. > :06:59.medal table because that is it for Great Britain now. The final silver
:07:00. > :07:08.from the 4x400m leaves Great Britain second in the table. Ten medals in
:07:09. > :07:11.total. Paula and Denny 's, I'm afraid you know what that means,
:07:12. > :07:18.Colin can see it means our championship pundit in terms of
:07:19. > :07:26.predictions is none other than Steve Cram. I'm grateful we do not have a
:07:27. > :07:27.camera for the commentators because he is gloating. He got bronze and
:07:28. > :07:38.silver wrong way round. There he is! LAUGHTER
:07:39. > :07:45.Almost like he knows something about athletics. So modest with it. Very
:07:46. > :07:56.well done, Steve, all delighted for you. Moments of the tournament,
:07:57. > :08:03.4x400m. I have to say it was Asha in the 60, and Dina Asher-Smith after
:08:04. > :08:10.her injury. It was a big ask. Nobody would have predicted her to come
:08:11. > :08:15.through. Yes a medal that she rose to the occasion beautifully. Super
:08:16. > :08:24.job. I think I know yours will begin with L. It ends with Laura Muir. She
:08:25. > :08:27.came in and set is of such a challenge, delivered with two
:08:28. > :08:32.championship records, she demolished the rest of the field. In terms of
:08:33. > :08:40.the whole championships, does it rank up there for you? Yes it has
:08:41. > :08:43.too. We talked about the fact that before the British athletes coming
:08:44. > :08:50.here doing doubles, Colin had done it with both championship records.
:08:51. > :08:56.She has done 9000 metres and he did 360. So she wins hands down. What is
:08:57. > :09:01.your moment? Wheel everybody who comes in with the bravery to do what
:09:02. > :09:05.Laura did and pull off a pretty tough double, that is out there.
:09:06. > :09:13.Actually the run of the day for me was Shelayna in the women's 800.
:09:14. > :09:19.Always the 800 from you. It was so marginal and with a bit more
:09:20. > :09:23.expenditure not have done what she did on the final bend. I thought she
:09:24. > :09:28.looked like an 800-metre runner. My favourite moment actually was the
:09:29. > :09:33.victory parade a few minutes ago being there watching Asha demolish
:09:34. > :09:38.our families sized piece of cream cake. I have probably got her in
:09:39. > :09:45.trouble with the coaches. She was enjoying it. You have been invited
:09:46. > :09:52.to the team partied tonight? I have a date, Richard Kilty! We cannot
:09:53. > :09:55.call it that, he was going on about how happy is at home with his
:09:56. > :10:01.fiancee. Just an invite to the party. Not sure she will be going...
:10:02. > :10:05.Overall as a start to the year, looking ahead to London, this is
:10:06. > :10:09.really good advert. Great start to the year, great start for British
:10:10. > :10:19.athletics and I am pleased. I now ha-ha they have worked. The net
:10:20. > :10:21.years ago and they have a Prime Minister who has really committed to
:10:22. > :10:29.sport in this country, they have built ten tracks in the last two
:10:30. > :10:37.years. They want to bid for other things so this is a vibrant
:10:38. > :10:43.athletics culture. I think Spanovic today if I was not being partisan,
:10:44. > :10:47.not that any of you are interested. The home crowd, it really lifted the
:10:48. > :10:51.atmosphere. We have had a great three days in Belgrade, some
:10:52. > :10:55.fantastic performances from British athletes were truly bodes well for
:10:56. > :11:01.those Welsh amateur coming up in August in London. You can see those
:11:02. > :11:04.right across the BBC. Plenty more racing and meets before then and you
:11:05. > :11:07.will see the very best of them of course will stop but from all others
:11:08. > :11:10.thank you so much for watching. We have loved being here and we hope
:11:11. > :11:18.you have enjoyed it. See you next time.
:11:19. > :11:24.One of the greatest races in history. Kim Collins is going
:11:25. > :12:05.together. Manchester underway. MUSIC: 'Feel The Love' by
:12:06. > :12:09.Rudimental. Usain Bolt, superhero.
