:00:54. > :00:59.This week the Diamond League moves on to Lausanne in Switzerland on the

:01:00. > :01:03.banks of Lake Geneva, some of the best in the world went head-to-head

:01:04. > :01:06.competition. We bring you the best of the action featuring world

:01:07. > :02:01.champions. The first race had perhaps the

:02:02. > :02:09.strongest pairing in the women's 400 metres hurdles. All three medallists

:02:10. > :02:15.from the Rio Olympics. And also world gold and silver-medallist in

:02:16. > :02:22.the line-up. And Eilidh Doyle of Great Britain. A highly competitive

:02:23. > :02:27.field. Let's go straight to a commentary team Steve Cram and Tim

:02:28. > :02:33.Hutchings. A very strong field in the women's 400-metre hurdles. There

:02:34. > :02:40.is the full line-up, Eilidh Doyle, twice European champion in lane one.

:02:41. > :02:56.The world champion Ina Berthoud. And the Jamaican fifth in Rio last year.

:02:57. > :02:59.Lea Sprunger, she only made the heats in the Rio Olympics. Ashley

:03:00. > :03:13.Spencer, world number four this year. Incredible performances two

:03:14. > :03:29.weeks back. And there is Mohammed. She tops the world champions. And

:03:30. > :03:32.Sarah Patterson in lane number three, very powerful, Olympic

:03:33. > :03:43.silver-medallists. European champion from last year. She knows this track

:03:44. > :03:48.well. And there is Zuzana Hejnova from the Czech Republic. She would

:03:49. > :03:54.have put in a lot of good work. Eilidh Doyle going on the inside.

:03:55. > :04:05.The first five from the Rio Olympics file in this race.

:04:06. > :04:25.Probably the quickest way is Shamier Little. Sara Slott Petersen going

:04:26. > :04:32.Festival at the minute. But Eilidh Doyle has run an impressive first

:04:33. > :04:40.200 metres. She's up alongside the world champion, Zuzana Hejnova. And

:04:41. > :04:46.it is Sarah Peterson who leaves. Shamier Little growing strongly.

:04:47. > :04:51.Ashley Spencer looking strong. Eilidh Doyle storming through. A

:04:52. > :04:55.great run down the home straight but it is going to be Ashley Spencer.

:04:56. > :05:11.Eilidh Doyle may be taking third spot. 53.92 the winning time. That

:05:12. > :05:20.is extremely quick. The seventh fastest in the world this year.

:05:21. > :05:27.Ashley Spencer takes it. Maybe getting some frustration out of her

:05:28. > :05:32.system with that win. And a personal best for Zuzana Hejnova. And Eilidh

:05:33. > :05:38.Doyle, a much better run than Eminem at the weekend. Third place and a

:05:39. > :05:43.season 's best. I'm just looking down, the first thing was Mohammed,

:05:44. > :05:55.I could not see anything wrong with her, she did not start with any

:05:56. > :06:01.speed. Eilidh Doyle running a great race in lane number one. Almost up

:06:02. > :06:04.there with Spencer. Ashley Spencer just got over it to come away at the

:06:05. > :06:11.end. But the question is what was wrong if anything with Mohammed.

:06:12. > :06:24.Confirmation of that win from Ashley Spencer. Of the USA. Sarah Peterson

:06:25. > :06:31.on fourth place on this occasion. Let's take a look at the man, the

:06:32. > :06:45.shot put event. And what a field it was. World number three is Tomas

:06:46. > :06:51.Stanek. Thomas Walsh opened fantastically but that was as good

:06:52. > :07:05.as he got. Of course is the world indoor champion from last year

:07:06. > :07:17.Olympic bronze-medallist. And here is Ryan Crouser. The Olympic

:07:18. > :07:24.champion. Making 22 metres look relatively simple. He spoke

:07:25. > :07:28.confidently after the event in Sacramento about attacking the world

:07:29. > :07:43.record which goes all the way back to 1990 at just over 23 metres.

:07:44. > :07:47.Pretty solid at 22.3 nine. Still to come Olympic

:07:48. > :07:52.silver-medallist Dafne Schippers in the women's 200 metres including

:07:53. > :07:59.Bianca Williams in the field. And James Dasaolu taking on Justin

:08:00. > :08:05.Gatlin in the 100 metres. Genzebe Dibaba attempting to break the world

:08:06. > :08:10.record in the women's mile. An intriguing 800 metres with Lorna

:08:11. > :08:14.Moore dressing down from the 1500 metres to take on the Olympic

:08:15. > :08:18.silver-medallist Francine Niyonsaba. In the field that is all about

:08:19. > :08:26.rivalry. Look out for the women's long jump. And a battle in the

:08:27. > :08:33.pole-vault. And the evening building towards a sizzling finale, South

:08:34. > :08:36.African sensation Wayde Van Niekerk making his first 400 metres

:08:37. > :08:45.appearance of the season. But back to the track for the 1500 metres.

:08:46. > :08:57.The Olympic champion is in this. And one of the favourites. They are in

:08:58. > :09:09.good form and they know how to win the races.

:09:10. > :09:21.Just catching balance on the start line and they are away. The

:09:22. > :09:26.pacemakers setting it up. Just settling into the pack early and

:09:27. > :09:36.they have got off very quickly. Well strung out. And the pacemakers over

:09:37. > :09:41.the five metres or so ahead. A rather unknown Moroccan turned

:09:42. > :09:48.Iranian. But had an incredible burst of speed over the last 200 metres.

:09:49. > :09:53.At picking others in the field and finishing well under time. Very

:09:54. > :09:58.impressive. Settled in now and the pack just beginning to settle in

:09:59. > :10:03.behind him. A lot of responsibility on the pacemakers for a field of

:10:04. > :10:08.this calibre. They have gone out quickly. They probably have settled

:10:09. > :10:16.down a bit too much over the first lap. Because most of the pack have

:10:17. > :10:18.gone through in about 57 seconds. At this standard it is just not quick

:10:19. > :10:43.enough. This is now accelerating. A good 50 metres behind the leader

:10:44. > :10:57.is a canny game to play. In a fast race like this, you need to settle

:10:58. > :11:07.back. A good 15 metres, settling back now. Good steady running. They

:11:08. > :11:11.will need to pick it up from here on. And the field is breaking up a

:11:12. > :11:15.bit. The pacemakers seem to have accelerated. I do not think they've

:11:16. > :11:41.done a great job, I have to say. The star names are nowhere to be

:11:42. > :11:49.seen at the moment. A good 12, 15 metres behind the leader in the

:11:50. > :11:57.front. A 12-metre lead, something like that. And they have not been

:11:58. > :12:19.spectacular. Bergen trying to make a bit of room.

:12:20. > :12:31.The clear leader being chased now. Kiplagat and others struggling.

:12:32. > :12:36.Trying to hang on. His legs absolutely turning to jelly. He

:12:37. > :12:57.might just about make it and he does. Wote the winner.

:12:58. > :13:04.A strange race. The last lap for Wote there or thereabouts, low 56.

:13:05. > :13:08.And they could not run him down. By the standards of these men, in

:13:09. > :13:16.perfect conditions, quite a modest time. Well Wote will be happy with

:13:17. > :13:20.his performance, he has been running consistently well. A good

:13:21. > :13:28.performance. Was third in Stockholm and follows that up with a win in

:13:29. > :13:35.the low sun Diamond League. This is the women, the long jump

:13:36. > :13:51.event, getting off to a decent start, Bartoletta. Sara

:13:52. > :13:55.Proctor retired hurt after a couple of jumps. But the Ivana Spanovic

:13:56. > :14:04.grabbed hold of the competition earlier on. Her first competition

:14:05. > :14:12.outdoors of the season. And was in second place until the fourth round

:14:13. > :14:17.when she produced this. An excellent 6.79 four in Ivana Spanovic and she

:14:18. > :14:32.is looking good in her first outdoor competition. That was it for the

:14:33. > :14:36.Croatian. No jump in round six. And Shakeelah Saunders of the USA

:14:37. > :14:44.producing a really good effort late on. Moving her head -- moving ahead

:14:45. > :14:56.of Bartoletta. There is the full result. Not the highest standard.

:14:57. > :15:06.Some good athlete there. Not much in it between second and sixth place.

:15:07. > :15:12.We move on to the 100 hurdles for the women. At the top end, quite a

:15:13. > :15:18.cosy start here the way that the old stadium is configured. And the crowd

:15:19. > :15:19.very close to the athletes. Of course the 110 is even further back

:15:20. > :15:30.for the men. Christina Manning finished third in

:15:31. > :15:36.the US championships in Sacramento. The first three past the post

:15:37. > :15:43.scenario, working out well for her. We have a change here. The German

:15:44. > :15:47.who has been in fine form... Oh come back to that, a late replacement.

:15:48. > :15:59.Ali finished second in the championship. Jasmine Stour is, not

:16:00. > :16:07.the day for her there. You get one chance in the championship. Despite

:16:08. > :16:17.the fast times the athletes have produced this year, Sharika Nelvis

:16:18. > :16:26.is another one who has had. Kristi Castlin. I keep talking about the

:16:27. > :16:35.American Championships, this is the World Championship. We have a late

:16:36. > :16:39.withdrawal here. Boons of the Netherlands has stepped in. Hasn't

:16:40. > :16:52.yet broken 13 seconds, so stepping up in quality. Ali almost twitching

:16:53. > :16:56.in the blocks but got away well. Sharika Nelvis coming into this.

:16:57. > :17:07.It's all very tight. Sharika Nelvis gets it. Kristi Castlin couldn't get

:17:08. > :17:12.there from Stowers. When you take Harrison out of it, when these women

:17:13. > :17:16.race, any one of them could win. They are that close. Tonight Sharika

:17:17. > :17:25.Nelvis comes out on top. Although it come up as Kristi Castlin. What?!

:17:26. > :17:31.She's saying the same as me, Tim! Could we have another look at that.

:17:32. > :17:34.Kristi Castlin is second to left. Sharika Nelvis is third to left.

:17:35. > :17:41.Certainly Sharika Nelvis is leading at this point. Stowers led through

:17:42. > :17:44.the first half. You are right, Steve, it's definitely Sharika

:17:45. > :17:48.Nelvis. I don't know why they have given it to Kristi Castlin. She's

:17:49. > :17:57.not even in the top three. It's an error. Stowers was second. Manning

:17:58. > :18:03.was burned. Kristi Castlin, rather embarrassed to have been awarded the

:18:04. > :18:17.victory, was actually think. -- actually fifth.

:18:18. > :18:28.This was in the third round, the best throw since the Brussels

:18:29. > :18:38.Diamond League in 2014 for Spotakava. Catherine Mitchell

:18:39. > :18:47.getting closer to the Australian record with a really good

:18:48. > :18:52.performance. But then, Sara Kolak had already set a national record in

:18:53. > :18:59.round three. And then this in the final round. The Olympic champion

:19:00. > :19:03.with a massive throw. Look at that. A huge effort from the young

:19:04. > :19:10.Croatian, who just seems to thrive on this new-found fame she is

:19:11. > :19:14.developing as Olympic champion. It was a world leader, a meeting record

:19:15. > :19:20.and national record. It's the second one of the evening. The Olympic

:19:21. > :19:33.champion, just 22 years of age, throwing 68.4 three. Great javelin

:19:34. > :19:36.competition. Spotakova with a season best. Kathryn Mitchell with a

:19:37. > :19:42.personal best. But it was all about Sara Kolak. On the left of picture,

:19:43. > :19:47.the athletes lining up for the women's mile. It's a non-Diamond

:19:48. > :19:59.League event in the middle of this. It's all about Genzebe Dibaba. She

:20:00. > :20:05.wants to attack this. This is just more than four laps of the track.

:20:06. > :20:09.Dibaba, a world record at 1500 metres both indoors and out. The

:20:10. > :20:21.record coming in Monaco two years ago. She is the world indoor 1500

:20:22. > :20:30.metre champion from 2012. World indoor junior champion from 2010.

:20:31. > :20:45.Dibaba needs to lap here at an average of 63.1 four. 800 in 206, we

:20:46. > :20:51.are chasing a record that's 21 years old. It would be very impressive if

:20:52. > :20:56.she got near it tonight. After recent form where she looked

:20:57. > :21:01.vulnerable, fourth in the Rome 5000. She hasn't looked comfortable. I'm

:21:02. > :21:10.sorry, she was sixth in that Rome 5000. It would be a remarkable jump

:21:11. > :21:15.in form to get close to that. Jenny Meadows, very experienced, bringing

:21:16. > :21:19.Dibaba back to her and settling it down. This will be a procession

:21:20. > :21:29.because the rest of the field will not go out anywhere near the pace.

:21:30. > :21:36.She once to five in 800 metres. Try to come home with a good lasts 62 or

:21:37. > :21:39.61 on the final lap. That's what you want to see. Dibaba has asked for

:21:40. > :21:46.the quick pace, but I don't think she will get it. Jenny Mae herself

:21:47. > :21:53.struggled to get to 2000 metres. She already has a big lead. They have

:21:54. > :22:01.just gone through the quarter mile in 61.4. They have gone out very

:22:02. > :22:04.aggressively. Genzebe Dibaba is a beautiful looking runner, still only

:22:05. > :22:10.26 and it feels like she's been around a long time. She has an

:22:11. > :22:14.enormous, wonderful blend of strength and speed. She has raced

:22:15. > :22:25.sparingly this year. Three outdoor races. She won the 5000 metres in

:22:26. > :22:30.14.2 five. It was billed as a world record attempt and she failed by a

:22:31. > :22:37.long way. Sometimes I think her ambition Howard reaches her ability.

:22:38. > :22:44.She goes through in 2.06. Pretty much identical splits for the first

:22:45. > :22:49.quarter mile and first half mile from Dibaba. Jenny Meadows spoke to

:22:50. > :22:54.us at lunch and said she thought she would struggle to get to 10,000 at

:22:55. > :23:02.this tempo. Sure enough, in 1100 does it. She kicks there. We

:23:03. > :23:08.mentioned before she has been in. This hasn't been evident in terms of

:23:09. > :23:15.what is capable of. Not as quick as she wanted, a couple of seconds off,

:23:16. > :23:23.I would say. Bear in mind that was an 800-metre time. It's 1609 metres.

:23:24. > :23:40.We will see where she is with 400 to go bust up looking strong. I got

:23:41. > :23:46.there at about 2.40 at 1900 yards. The gap behind her, probably 50

:23:47. > :23:55.metres or 60 metres. She was looking for 3.12. She was still on for that

:23:56. > :23:59.but mastic over was desperately quick when she broke the

:24:00. > :24:06.world-record 21 years ago. She very upright, chest pushed out. Driving

:24:07. > :24:10.with her arms out, up on her toes. There is determination and

:24:11. > :24:14.confidence on her face. She needs 29 seconds in the last 200 metres. I

:24:15. > :24:22.don't think she will get that. It's a great run, fully 60 metres ahead

:24:23. > :24:26.of the rest of the field. She is beginning to slow down badly. The

:24:27. > :24:35.crowd on their feet roaring her on. For minutes on the clock. She's

:24:36. > :24:40.chasing 4.12. It would be great to get 4.15 or anything like that.

:24:41. > :24:48.Dibaba, her legs turning to concrete. Crosses the line in

:24:49. > :24:54.4:16.07. Still fabulously fast, the fourth fastest time in history in

:24:55. > :25:04.fact... Double-checking, the fifth fastest time in history. It's a

:25:05. > :25:10.great time. It was set early on with a fast 1000 metres to open. It was a

:25:11. > :25:16.tough way to do it. She was racing herself when Jenny dropped out at

:25:17. > :25:30.900 metres. Taking a look at the result, the fastest time in the

:25:31. > :25:37.world this year by some. Distance. Now the women's 200 metres. Dafne

:25:38. > :25:43.Schippers, there was a query why she wasn't disqualified but it doesn't

:25:44. > :25:48.matter now. Marie-Josee Ta Lou of the Ivory Coast, perhaps the

:25:49. > :25:53.unlikeliest athlete in Rio, fourth in the 100 and 200. Kyra Jefferson

:25:54. > :26:01.was fifth in the US Championships, a new personal best. Just 22. Sarah

:26:02. > :26:08.Atcho of Switzerland in lane two. A best of 22.9 came a couple of weeks

:26:09. > :26:11.back here in Switzerland. Bianca Williams for Great Britain, the

:26:12. > :26:19.Commonwealth silver-medallist from 2014. Now 23, in lane one.

:26:20. > :26:27.Pretty good start from Dafne Schippers. Marie-Josee Ta Lou in

:26:28. > :26:39.Orange going well in lane four. Randy Newman is a good bend. Best

:26:40. > :26:43.Prandini has a good bend. That's going to because. Great running from

:26:44. > :26:53.Marie-Josee Ta Lou. Even better from Dafne Schippers. The meeting record

:26:54. > :26:57.is 22.07, that was 1995. 22 years ago. Schippers came close to

:26:58. > :27:00.consigning that to history. But it remains history in its own way as

:27:01. > :27:09.Dafne Schippers winners here tonight. She's just three 100s of

:27:10. > :27:15.that meeting record. Checking the wind speed, -0.5. Maybe that made

:27:16. > :27:21.the difference. Marie-Josee Ta Lou ran a great bend, putting her under

:27:22. > :27:24.pressure. Even there, Schippers from last year or the year before would

:27:25. > :27:31.have moved away in the last 20 metres. Maybe she is still in heavy

:27:32. > :27:38.work, trying to work on being strong enough to cope with the

:27:39. > :27:51.Championships in the round. A season best for the Dutch.

:27:52. > :28:04.On the far side, the triple jump. Injuries ruined Pichardo's year.

:28:05. > :28:09.After a great 2015 he was so looking forward to the Olympics. It was his

:28:10. > :28:14.right ankle. Now starting to find form. Getting beyond 17 metres

:28:15. > :28:22.again. That's a decent start. I said beyond 17. He has only been just

:28:23. > :28:26.over 17, 17 .05 this year. But that's an indicator he's back. That

:28:27. > :28:32.longer, rangy technique of his. That's gone 17.4, a season's best

:28:33. > :28:44.for the Cuban. What a start for the triple jump. Can Taylor respond? Not

:28:45. > :28:59.bad, not too far away. Taylor in superb form. Taylor with 17.3 five.

:29:00. > :29:03.Pichardo! Look at this. He has gone even further. We get the attitude

:29:04. > :29:14.and the swagger. He's back big time. The confidence is there. Pichardo

:29:15. > :29:17.extending his lead. I think Christian Taylor thought he might

:29:18. > :29:21.cruise through the season with just Will Claye to challenge him. He

:29:22. > :29:32.might have to think again. Christian Taylor in the triple jump now. 17.35

:29:33. > :29:36.he opened with. He saw Pichardo at 17.5 four. He almost sat back on

:29:37. > :29:44.that one. He knows it. Frustrating for wristy and Taylor. Gave a bit of

:29:45. > :29:50.ground away on the board, but just slides back and loses a few

:29:51. > :29:56.centimetres. 17.48 for Christian Taylor in the second round.

:29:57. > :30:02.Breathing down the neck of Pichardo, 17.54.

:30:03. > :30:13.The men's 400 metre hurdles next. Some more familiar names in the

:30:14. > :30:26.line-up. And the Swiss have their own man to cheer, Hussain.

:30:27. > :30:34.Karim Hussein a bit slow to get going, lost a bit of ground.

:30:35. > :30:39.Robertson started well beside him. Jackson went out hard and settled

:30:40. > :30:55.back again. Frederick 's going strong as well. The Estonian also

:30:56. > :31:03.going well. Fredericks has gone hard. He has a two-metre lead. Now

:31:04. > :31:09.in lane for is Robinson coming back. Starting to tie up, Fredericks.

:31:10. > :31:18.Hussein might just get this. It is going to be Hussein. A huge going

:31:19. > :31:23.up. That will be a season best. -- the huge cheer going up. The Swiss

:31:24. > :31:33.delighted their man has come out on top. It often happens with the home

:31:34. > :31:37.town crowd. You thought he might come third or fourth but he was

:31:38. > :31:43.given a good lane and at the end Fredericks just fell apart. Robinson

:31:44. > :31:49.could not deliver on the last barrier. And it was Karim Hussein

:31:50. > :31:55.who came through. Robinson ran a really good race in a number four.

:31:56. > :32:04.So strong initially apart from that final barrier. Karim Hussein holding

:32:05. > :32:13.his form well. The is the winning time. A good

:32:14. > :32:29.performance from Robinson. And the rest trailing in behind.

:32:30. > :32:39.This is the women's high jump. A good clearance, she really found

:32:40. > :32:40.some form in the Diamond League and is continuing that here, Sofie

:32:41. > :32:57.Skoog. She is now in the lead. Next to go is Kamila Licwinko. She

:32:58. > :33:09.was a world indoor champion back in 2014. That puts her in equal first,

:33:10. > :33:15.just her third jump of the evening. Maria Lasitskene has seen Sofie

:33:16. > :33:26.Skoog and Kamila Licwinko go clear and no problem at all for the

:33:27. > :33:30.Russian, still only 24. She could yet threaten the world record. There

:33:31. > :33:38.was talk of it at her press conference. The world record

:33:39. > :33:44.standing from 1987. Morgan Lake going well as well. She is in fourth

:33:45. > :34:05.place with that. Third attempt for Alessia Trost and

:34:06. > :34:09.she gets it. She has been struggling as well this season but she also

:34:10. > :34:16.goes clear at the third attempt. In fifth place. Christian Taylor has a

:34:17. > :34:26.fight on his hands this evening. Here he is in round three. Just

:34:27. > :34:36.sitting back on that a little bit. But getting better, but does not

:34:37. > :34:44.make the board. Has given away 20 centimetres. And this third round

:34:45. > :35:02.effort, he is chasing 17.5 four. Two inches shy of Pedro Pichardo.

:35:03. > :35:15.There is that 5,000-metre field. The Ethiopian, Edris. A fabulous win in

:35:16. > :35:25.Paris on Sunday. There is Chetegei, great strength. Another man to

:35:26. > :35:35.watch. And the powerful American, True.

:35:36. > :35:46.The pacemakers have been asked to head out at 62 seconds per lap.

:35:47. > :35:55.The middle section is where things normally start to come unstuck, it

:35:56. > :36:02.takes great concentration and confidence to go hard in the middle

:36:03. > :36:14.of a 5000. Edris the man in great form, looked supreme in Paris. His

:36:15. > :36:23.final: metres in Paris, world-class. I saw him earlier when he ran the

:36:24. > :36:28.10,000 metres. And really that day he did not look very good. He got

:36:29. > :36:35.tailed off in the later stages. But he has bounced back. Certainly

:36:36. > :36:40.staking a claim for the 5000 metres. I do not think you would get in the

:36:41. > :36:45.10,000 metres team. But great form as you said. And he has got that

:36:46. > :36:51.pays you need at 5000 metres as well. So I'm intrigued to see how

:36:52. > :36:57.far, how quick he can go. I like to watch the Ugandan, Chetegei. Sadly

:36:58. > :37:03.he fell apart at the world Cross Championships. He got so excited

:37:04. > :37:10.with one lap to go and almost had to walk across the line. But he is a

:37:11. > :37:15.great talent. I expect to see him on the 10,000 of the World

:37:16. > :37:19.Championships. He is a developing talent and still young. They have

:37:20. > :37:23.got a real talent on our hands. I would be intrigued to see how he

:37:24. > :37:32.goes tonight. Here we go with two laps to go. A good penultimate lap

:37:33. > :37:36.and then a big last lap. Four men still in contention, a really good

:37:37. > :37:43.race being set up. Really enjoying this. I love to see a front runner

:37:44. > :37:50.trying to break the field. And one by one they are starting to feel

:37:51. > :37:54.this. 650 metres to go. That last lap when they went through the line,

:37:55. > :38:02.it is still Chetegei doing all the work. Edris still looking relaxed

:38:03. > :38:16.with wonderful leg speed. Watch him in the middle of that trio. And in

:38:17. > :38:21.third place an astonishing run from Barega. It is the far more

:38:22. > :38:33.experienced runner dropping back in fourth place. Edris getting his nose

:38:34. > :38:38.in front for the first time. 13 minutes to go, heading for a world

:38:39. > :38:42.lead I'm pretty sure. The youngster having a cracking race. Chetegei has

:38:43. > :38:50.nothing left to give. Can Barega hang on to Edris? I am sure he has

:38:51. > :38:59.another year to go but what has Barega got? I think there is more to

:39:00. > :39:06.come from the little Ethiopian. The youngster behind him hanging on over

:39:07. > :39:13.the last 300 metres. Chetegei losing ground. But Edris changing gear and

:39:14. > :39:20.kicking away from the youngster. But Barega still has speed. Edris checks

:39:21. > :39:25.over shoulder and he is going to take this, no doubt about it. 12.5

:39:26. > :39:44.five. That was fabulously quick from

:39:45. > :39:47.Edris. A great race tonight, Barega announcing himself on the world

:39:48. > :40:02.stage but a great performance from Edris. A personal best from young

:40:03. > :40:10.Barega in second. Number one in the world and easy for

:40:11. > :40:17.her as well, the first to go clear and others beginning to struggle at

:40:18. > :40:23.this height. This is where everyone else has been found out this year in

:40:24. > :40:25.the high jump. She is the only one to challenge. Making it look so

:40:26. > :40:46.easy. Now we have Sam Kendricks going over

:40:47. > :40:53.it again tonight. A first-time clearance at five point 87. The

:40:54. > :41:09.gauntlet thrown down to the two men behind him. Wojciechowski, and that

:41:10. > :41:14.is beautiful. The world champion back in 2011. That was quite a

:41:15. > :41:26.surprise. He was a winner here in 2015, Wojciechowski. Looking to

:41:27. > :41:41.clear for his second attempt, Renaud Lavillenie. He would become second

:41:42. > :41:48.equal along with Wojciechowski. My word! You know what, he gave that

:41:49. > :41:57.such a clatter. And it has stayed up. Six metres getting relentlessly

:41:58. > :41:58.closer. The way it bounces around the uprights, I cannot believe that

:41:59. > :42:11.it up. This man Simbine, third fastest in

:42:12. > :42:27.the world. Alex Wilson, coached also by the

:42:28. > :43:02.same coaches James Dasaolu. Justin Gatlin getting a good start.

:43:03. > :43:23.Simbine was with him. Meite coming through. Justin Gatlin gets it. It

:43:24. > :43:29.is close. 9.90 six. Just 100 slower than he ran in Sacramento. A good,

:43:30. > :43:37.close race with many in contention. Under ten seconds, Meite. The same

:43:38. > :43:40.with Simbine. When you get the World Championships, getting into the

:43:41. > :43:45.final is going to be down to hundreds of a second. A typical race

:43:46. > :43:55.from Justin Gatlin, he loves the battle. Some great talent coming out

:43:56. > :44:00.of Africa these days. The Americans and Jamaicans not getting it all

:44:01. > :44:09.their own way. Kim Collins left way back, never got a sniff. Justin

:44:10. > :44:15.Gatlin on top again, Meite right in there and the season continuing to

:44:16. > :44:25.go well for Simbine. Going back to the women high jump,

:44:26. > :44:36.this is the second attempt and she has gone clear. Equal fifth highest

:44:37. > :44:48.jumper in history. That has been on the cards for Maria Baasit scheme.

:44:49. > :44:56.-- Maria Lasitskene. Really coming into her own. But back to the triple

:44:57. > :45:08.jump, turning into a ding-dong with Christian Taylor and Pedro Pichardo.

:45:09. > :45:13.This is his round six jump. Christian Taylor could not improve

:45:14. > :45:14.in the third round. And he has been beaten, Pedro Pichardo is the

:45:15. > :45:31.champion. That looks even further. 17.60,

:45:32. > :45:36.improving by six centimetres. He has only gone over 17 once this year,

:45:37. > :45:45.but has done it three times tonight. It puts in the next for the World

:45:46. > :46:01.Championship. With Dibaba completing the mile, there was a rare

:46:02. > :46:07.appearance in the 800 metres for Niyonsaba. Laura Muir was racing for

:46:08. > :46:18.the first time since May because of a stress fracture. Niyonsaba is the

:46:19. > :46:26.woman to beat in this one. The women's 800 metres ready to go.

:46:27. > :46:36.Hassan in the form of her life. She's a sub two minute 800-metre

:46:37. > :46:41.runner. Sum is a former champion. Struggling to hang onto the shirt

:46:42. > :46:45.tails of the others now. Charlene Lipsey, great run at the European

:46:46. > :46:49.Championships, qualified for the World Championships. The European

:46:50. > :46:59.indoor champion will get a great cheer. Buchel of Switzerland. Laura

:47:00. > :47:04.Muir, had an injury scare for a couple of weeks, her first race back

:47:05. > :47:13.since May. At 800 metres. Will run the mile in London on Sunday. Young

:47:14. > :47:20.Ethiopian Alemu will try to hang onto the pace. The Olympic

:47:21. > :47:23.silver-medallist Niyonsaba. Lynsey Sharp was disappointed to finish

:47:24. > :47:32.third at the weekend. She wants a quick performance here.

:47:33. > :47:42.A pretty good pacemaker usually, Usovich. Laura Muir will probably

:47:43. > :47:49.find herself in last place when they break. The two 1500 metre women

:47:50. > :47:53.right at the back. I'm pretty sure that's not where they will finish.

:47:54. > :47:58.Usovich comes across through the first 200 metres in a swift 26.6

:47:59. > :48:05.seconds, that's a little bit quicker. It's what Niyonsaba wanted.

:48:06. > :48:12.The 800 metres runners have gone with it. Niyonsaba has gone out

:48:13. > :48:17.almost suicidally fast, running 20 seconds in the first 200. Laura Muir

:48:18. > :48:22.at the back of the field will pick up bodies on the second lap. She has

:48:23. > :48:27.gone as quick as she wants to go. They come through below us.

:48:28. > :48:34.Niyonsaba has the pack breathing down her neck. She probably went

:48:35. > :48:38.through in 56.8. There will be some tired athletes in the home straight.

:48:39. > :48:43.They have all committed to it. Even Laura Muir at the back of the field

:48:44. > :48:47.was under 58 seconds, I would think. Charlene Lipsey has got involved on

:48:48. > :48:57.a near side, trying to find elbowroom. Hassan making good room

:48:58. > :49:04.on the outside. Laura Muir trying to move up. Lynsey Sharp try to hold

:49:05. > :49:14.off the Scot. Niyonsaba looking good at the front. Charlene Lipsey is

:49:15. > :49:17.attacking the inside of Niyonsaba. It's been awhile since any of the

:49:18. > :49:24.three Olympic medallists were beaten. Niyonsaba pulls away again.

:49:25. > :49:30.She will win this. Charlene Lipsey in second. Then Sum, and then the

:49:31. > :49:39.two 1500 metres runners, Hassan and Laura Muir going through well. The

:49:40. > :49:44.two 1500 metres runners were smart, didn't go hard in the first 200.

:49:45. > :49:49.They have been rewarded with great times, close to personal best I

:49:50. > :49:55.would say for Laura Muir. It's a big personal best for Charlene Lipsey as

:49:56. > :50:05.well. She has taken some big scalps, the likes of Sum and Hassan, who ran

:50:06. > :50:17.a personal best. A national record for Swede in a sixth.

:50:18. > :50:35.Great 800. This is Sam Hendrix at 5.93. The second attempt. That's

:50:36. > :50:41.good! Stays on. He was well over. Just hit it coming down, but it

:50:42. > :50:49.stayed on. Off he goes. Sam Kendricks, the darling of the crowd

:50:50. > :50:53.at Lausanne. Beautiful clearance. Just as Iraqi himself around it,

:50:54. > :50:58.either his chest or arm, gave it a rattle, but he knew he had the

:50:59. > :51:07.height. Sam Kendricks in such good form.

:51:08. > :51:15.Third attempt, this will be a personal best, and he gets it. Well,

:51:16. > :51:25.he's following Sam Kendricks, working off him, if you like. The

:51:26. > :51:31.crowd loving this. Wojciechowski in great form. A season 's best and

:51:32. > :51:44.personal best at the end. It was a clean clearance. Lavillene with his

:51:45. > :51:52.third attempt, 5.93. No. He doesn't look the confident man we know. He's

:51:53. > :51:58.under the microscope a little bit. Certainly under pressure from Sam

:51:59. > :52:02.these days. To the final track event of the night, the men's 400 metres,

:52:03. > :52:07.which sees Olympic and world champion Wayde van Niekerk in action

:52:08. > :52:11.over 400 metres for the first time outside his native South Africa

:52:12. > :52:18.since his record-breaking run in Rio. His time of 43.03 beta Michael

:52:19. > :52:23.Johnson's long-standing world record. Johnson also hold the

:52:24. > :52:29.meeting record here in Lausanne with 43.6 six. Canon Van Niekerk better

:52:30. > :52:34.his time again? It's time for the one lap for the men, the 400 metres.

:52:35. > :52:43.I fancy the meeting record is under threat. Michael Johnson ran 43.66

:52:44. > :52:51.here in 1996. Van Niekerk, the world champion, record-holder, the

:52:52. > :52:56.reigning world champion as well. Van Niekerk going out fast. He set a

:52:57. > :53:06.personal best in the 100 just a few weeks ago. Van Niekerk moving past

:53:07. > :53:13.the man outside him very smoothly, Michael Cherry. Van Niekerk going to

:53:14. > :53:17.200 metres in around the high 20s. Hasn't blasted the first 200 metres.

:53:18. > :53:25.Looking like a measure run from a Van Niekerk. Makwala going strong,

:53:26. > :53:29.possibly heading to the last 100 metres. Van Niekerk striding away.

:53:30. > :53:34.Eating up the ground and easing away from Makwala whose stride is

:53:35. > :53:41.shortening. Great run from Baboloki Thebe in lane three. It's a meeting

:53:42. > :53:45.record for Van Niekerk. He wipes away the 21-year-old meeting record

:53:46. > :53:53.of Michael Johnson. A solid opener from Wayde van Niekerk. 43.62 is a

:53:54. > :53:59.time beaten by only four other men in history, Johnson, Reynolds,

:54:00. > :54:15.Warner and Watts. All men of faith previous error. -- all men of a

:54:16. > :54:20.previous era. He has shown he's in very fine fettle. I believe the 43

:54:21. > :54:24.second barrier will fall this year. Comfortable win for Van Niekerk. You

:54:25. > :54:28.have to enjoy watching him. He will develop into the big star that the

:54:29. > :54:35.sport needs, just because of his performances. He's not as outgoing

:54:36. > :54:40.as Usain Bolt or anything, but on the track, he's sensational. Hats

:54:41. > :54:47.off to those chasing him down. Makwala and Baboloki Thebe. But they

:54:48. > :54:53.can't stay with him. His sprint form is beautiful. That action, he's not

:54:54. > :54:58.a fatigued 400-metre runner. He's charging, looking at the clock,

:54:59. > :55:02.thinking, how fast am I running? Beautiful run from him. Surely

:55:03. > :55:07.there's more to come. He will be delighted with the time but I'm

:55:08. > :55:10.positive, as you said, come the World Championships big-time, throw

:55:11. > :55:16.in a couple of others. He's gone quicker than Fred Curley, the very

:55:17. > :55:23.good American. Great run. He looked relaxed, Van Niekerk winning that.

:55:24. > :55:26.43.62 for the South African. Baboloki Thebe, brilliant running

:55:27. > :55:39.from the 20-year-old for second place. Having cleared 2.0 six. The

:55:40. > :55:48.world record in the women's high jump is 2.0 nine. Neither of the two

:55:49. > :55:57.previous attempts have been close. She went over 2.06 at the second

:55:58. > :56:02.time of asking. You could almost hear a pin drop in the arena now.

:56:03. > :56:08.Third and final attempt at the world record. No. The best attempt of the

:56:09. > :56:20.three but wasn't close. But it will come. Her 11th jump of the evening.

:56:21. > :56:25.Fatigued beginning to creep in. Came in at 1.84, that was a testing job.

:56:26. > :56:48.She wins by several heights. This is to join a very exclusive

:56:49. > :56:54.club of more than six metres for Wojciechowski. It's been a good

:56:55. > :56:57.night for him. That was a bit better, but I don't think he ever

:56:58. > :57:02.really believed it. A smile on his face on the way down onto the mat

:57:03. > :57:12.and why not? A new national record, equals the meeting record. These two

:57:13. > :57:17.have entertained the crowd superbly tonight. America's Sam Kendricks

:57:18. > :57:20.winning the men's pole vault having cleared the previous site in the

:57:21. > :57:24.least number of attempts to round off a thrilling field competitions.

:57:25. > :57:28.A brilliant night in Lausanne where some of the sport's new stars

:57:29. > :57:33.announce themselves ahead of London. Sam Kendricks is a showman in the

:57:34. > :57:36.pole vault. 22-year-old Sara Kolak is already Olympic champion but

:57:37. > :57:40.tonight became one of the best javelin throwers of all time. Laura

:57:41. > :57:44.Muir was the standout Brit, a new personal best in the 800 metres,

:57:45. > :57:50.signalling good things for the season for her. Morgan Lake was

:57:51. > :57:54.fourth in the high jump. But Wayde van Niekerk was the most impressive,

:57:55. > :57:59.making 400 metre running look as smooth as Swiss chocolate. More

:58:00. > :58:01.top-class athletics on the BBC this weekend. Join us tomorrow for the

:58:02. > :58:24.London Anniversary Games. That's all from Lausanne. Join me

:58:25. > :58:29.next Sunday will we will have the best of the action as the Diamond

:58:30. > :59:13.League moves onto the Moroccan capital of Rabat.

:59:14. > :59:13.'..to learn about the food I cook for my family...'

:59:14. > :59:15.Tell me, what is so good about these potatoes?

:59:16. > :59:17.'From the heights of the Scottish Highlands
