:00:49. > :00:54.Welcome to the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham for the second day of the

:00:55. > :00:56.British athletics Championships. Also the trials for the World

:00:57. > :01:00.Athletics Championships in London in August. The top athletes in the

:01:01. > :01:06.country here, looking to secure their place. Hello, Adam. Like him.

:01:07. > :01:31.You will see plenty more of them a little bit later.

:01:32. > :01:42.It's a mammoth jump! Adam Gemili wins it.

:01:43. > :01:51.It's going to be victory for Steph 12.

:01:52. > :01:57.The stakes really couldn't be higher, could they? Not just

:01:58. > :02:02.national titles up for grabs, but a place on the team to be in London in

:02:03. > :02:06.August, representing Great Britain at the World Athletics Championships

:02:07. > :02:09.on that iconic track. We will update you with the first eight of the

:02:10. > :02:13.championships as we go through the afternoon, but let's mark your card

:02:14. > :02:30.as to how the afternoon will pan out. -- the first day.

:02:31. > :02:34.Robbie Grabow 's is going well in the Diamond League, fresh from

:02:35. > :02:50.jumping 2.24, last night in Paris. No Laura Muir this weekend in the

:02:51. > :02:53.1500 metre final, but fellow Olympian Laura Weightman is having a

:02:54. > :02:59.good season and she will be after the title.

:03:00. > :03:06.Jake Wightman looking to continue his impressive form. Shara Proctor

:03:07. > :03:11.had to put out of the women's long jump after a minor car accident.

:03:12. > :03:14.Matthew Hudson-Smith will be looking to retain his title in the men's 400

:03:15. > :03:27.metres. First, straight down on the track.

:03:28. > :03:33.They are out already for the men's 110 metre hurdles heats. The first

:03:34. > :03:37.features the hotly fancied David Omoregie. We will join our

:03:38. > :03:39.commentators, very good afternoon today to Colin Jackson and Andrew

:03:40. > :03:49.Cotter. COMMENTATOR: David Omoregie, the red

:03:50. > :03:57.signifies he is the UK's leading candidate. Andrew Pozzi competed

:03:58. > :04:08.very well last night in Paris. Jack Kirby is the youngest in the

:04:09. > :04:09.field at 20. He will be trying to live with the quicker man inside

:04:10. > :04:28.him. A man very familiar with this track.

:04:29. > :04:29.13.91 this season. He might compete with Omoregie for the two automatic

:04:30. > :04:46.places. 21 old Tim Duckworth, the Liverpool

:04:47. > :04:58.Harriers, in a lane number eight. Omoregie and Okoro will fancy their

:04:59. > :05:19.chances. Three heats of the men's 110 metres

:05:20. > :05:39.hurdles. No Pozzi. He will get a place in the World Championships.

:05:40. > :05:53.Behind Omoregie I think it was Feeney who took a distant second. A

:05:54. > :05:58.long way behind the former world junior champion, Omoregie. He ran

:05:59. > :06:07.13.34 in Lille last week. Not far away from that. In the absence of

:06:08. > :06:13.Pozzi, he might be the favourite for this title. That was a really good

:06:14. > :06:17.run. He clattered a few barriers, but the most important thing, he

:06:18. > :06:20.went out and pushed himself. He knows he's not going to be

:06:21. > :06:26.challenged by the rest of the field, so the time is all about him. He can

:06:27. > :06:32.try stuff. He clattered barriers, yes, but he has won 13.4, straight

:06:33. > :06:37.away a qualifying standard. We know he has it already, but it is

:06:38. > :06:38.confidence building for the athletes to produce performances time and

:06:39. > :06:46.again. The man inside him pull something

:06:47. > :06:49.straight out of the blocks, so Omoregie was clear. When you have no

:06:50. > :06:53.pressure either side and you are hurdling, do you have more freedom?

:06:54. > :06:57.You can really challenge yourself and keep your mind on the things he

:06:58. > :07:01.wanted to work on in training, it could be running off a barrier,

:07:02. > :07:05.pushing on, really challenging yourself to say, you know what, I'm

:07:06. > :07:10.going to take more risks at this stage. He is bouncing all over the

:07:11. > :07:15.track here. But it's his first run out. Come the final, he will be used

:07:16. > :07:20.to the speed of the track and the conditions. I am really happy with

:07:21. > :07:26.that. The angle is deceptive, but he was drifting out to the right side

:07:27. > :07:30.of his lane. Athletes always tend to drift towards the lead leg. Nothing

:07:31. > :07:36.unusual, but that is what sometimes causes clashes.

:07:37. > :07:44.David Omoregie goes through to the final. The first of three heats.

:07:45. > :07:51.We had a slightly quicker time for him than that. A few problems with

:07:52. > :07:52.the timings yesterday. A long way clear of the rest and safely

:07:53. > :08:00.through. We will show you the other heats in

:08:01. > :08:04.a few minutes. But I have a few minutes to say hello to Paula

:08:05. > :08:08.Radcliffe and Denise Lewis. We are very excited about this afternoon.

:08:09. > :08:12.There is an added sense, ladies, that it's not just about titles

:08:13. > :08:17.today. The all-important place on the team is up for grabs.

:08:18. > :08:22.Absolutely, the athletes want to be in London and taste the magic of

:08:23. > :08:24.that stadium. We saw it at the Olympics, we know the World

:08:25. > :08:28.Championships are going to be fantastic. It is about raising your

:08:29. > :08:33.game today and making the most of the opportunity, using the incentive

:08:34. > :08:37.to drive you home. We saw yesterday it doesn't always go to plan.

:08:38. > :08:40.Sometimes pushing yourself so much can lead to disappointment. It is

:08:41. > :08:46.balancing that knowing you have it within you, how to race clever,

:08:47. > :08:51.heats especially for the sprinters, it's managing your body. Managing

:08:52. > :08:56.your body and your emotions. It is very important, a British title. But

:08:57. > :08:59.the chance to go back to that stadium. A log of these athletes

:09:00. > :09:06.would have been knocking on the door of the team in 2012. -- a lot. They

:09:07. > :09:10.will want a taste of that stadium in front of a home crowd, challenging

:09:11. > :09:14.at a World Championships. Let's clarify what you have to do to

:09:15. > :09:19.qualify for the championships in London. It's not an exact science.

:09:20. > :09:22.If you finish in the top two this weekend and you have the

:09:23. > :09:26.qualification standard, you are in. If you finish in the top two and you

:09:27. > :09:35.haven't got the qualification standard but you have the European

:09:36. > :09:39.championship, you are in. Some flexibility for the selectors to

:09:40. > :09:43.make decisions that can allow people who perhaps don't perform this

:09:44. > :09:48.weekend, but they know have a proven track record at Major Championships,

:09:49. > :09:53.have had a really good season otherwise, to get on the squad.

:09:54. > :09:56.There is. There are two camps. Sometimes a bit too much

:09:57. > :10:00.flexibility. These are the trials, it is your duty to come and perform

:10:01. > :10:05.to demonstrate why you deserve to be selected. Yes, lots of people are

:10:06. > :10:07.injured and I know it is difficult the year after the Olympics, because

:10:08. > :10:11.people start late and they are trying to peak at the right time.

:10:12. > :10:14.But the big window of qualification makes it more difficult for the

:10:15. > :10:18.selectors and they don't always get it right. If you decide not to

:10:19. > :10:24.compete in an event that you could be selected in, you run the risk of

:10:25. > :10:29.not being selected. You do, but not in the same way as if you were in

:10:30. > :10:33.the US. It really is the first three across the line and no excuses. If

:10:34. > :10:38.use grew up, you are not even making it to the championships. Ours is

:10:39. > :10:42.maybe a bit too ambiguous. We have seen some big names missing this

:10:43. > :10:46.year. They could have gone a better crowd and atmosphere here. To give

:10:47. > :10:53.something back to the supporters who come out. Where are you on the likes

:10:54. > :10:58.of Pozzi missing because he is running in the Diamond League? It is

:10:59. > :11:02.tough, I think he should be here and competing for his title as the

:11:03. > :11:06.British champion, and his place on the team. He did run a personal best

:11:07. > :11:10.and finished second. You could say the same for Laura Muir. She has

:11:11. > :11:17.been injured but she is racing on Thursday in Lausanne. It makes it

:11:18. > :11:20.difficult. I understand why athletes don't, because the level of

:11:21. > :11:28.competition is not so high, it is better to support the sport. Pozzi

:11:29. > :11:31.was given permission to run in the Diamond League, so we shall see

:11:32. > :11:34.where the runners and riders come from in this heat to make it to the

:11:35. > :11:38.final. Let's get back to Colin and Andrew.

:11:39. > :11:45.COMMENTATOR: Steve, in this one, Gabby.

:11:46. > :11:51.James Weaver will be going to the under 23 championships shortly.

:11:52. > :11:56.Competed well in the age-group championships at Bedford last week.

:11:57. > :11:58.Jack major set a new personal best in the 100 metres, just under 11

:11:59. > :12:11.seconds. This man a decathlete. 7100 points.

:12:12. > :12:17.Only one competitive run over the hurdles. George Vaughan, another

:12:18. > :12:23.improving youngster, 19. Close to 14 seconds. He was out of the medals in

:12:24. > :12:29.the under 20 championships, though. We talked about the qualification

:12:30. > :12:34.time. Pozzi has it, Omoregie we have seen, David King has eight, 13 .48.

:12:35. > :12:40.A great opportunity to cement his place. -- Dave King has it. He can

:12:41. > :12:53.book his place. William was at the under 23s last

:12:54. > :13:05.week, finishing sixth. Dave King, no mistakes here, get in

:13:06. > :13:08.the final and finish in the top two. Sounds easy, doesn't it? This is one

:13:09. > :13:24.event where you can get it wrong. His time came in a recent meeting.

:13:25. > :13:39.He ran pretty well in hand the well. Not far away on that occasion.

:13:40. > :13:53.It is all about David King. That's nice. Good running. 13.66. The wind

:13:54. > :13:56.was favourable. I said, Colin, it sounds easy, doesn't it? High

:13:57. > :14:01.hurdles is always fraught with danger. The first thing is relief.

:14:02. > :14:07.He is getting consistent in the mid-13 seconds. He did the one time

:14:08. > :14:15.that will hopefully make it a selection for him this weekend.

:14:16. > :14:20.Really, he just has to err on caution, because he needs to finish

:14:21. > :14:25.in the top two. Watching him run here, I see no reason why he

:14:26. > :14:30.shouldn't be able to do that. It was a very good run by James Weaver on

:14:31. > :14:37.the inside. This young man, 19, with a personal best of 13.77. Pretty

:14:38. > :14:43.good. David is very much the class of the field. Smooth, technically

:14:44. > :14:48.good. Where he will get his biggest improvement from is generating more

:14:49. > :14:52.leg speed. Sprinting quicker. That will force him onto the barriers. He

:14:53. > :14:58.can really test that very good technique of his. I watched him

:14:59. > :15:02.develop and it is good to see that. He is going to make these

:15:03. > :15:07.championships, fingers crossed. He can get the experience at a major

:15:08. > :15:10.event. This is always really important. To say that our athletes

:15:11. > :15:14.get the opportunity to run at the very highest level. When you do

:15:15. > :15:17.that, it will push you on. Fingers crossed. That he does well again in

:15:18. > :15:30.the final. We do have a result for this one.

:15:31. > :15:39.Keeping an eye on the fastest losers, Miguel Perera, still in

:15:40. > :15:44.there, two fastest loser times, David Feeney from the first heat,

:15:45. > :15:49.legal Parreira is in with a chance. David King and James Weaver through

:15:50. > :15:52.to the final. Seems like a good time to catch up with some of the action

:15:53. > :15:58.from yesterday, the women's 100 metres hurdles final. Two have led

:15:59. > :16:02.the way for British athletics in this event for the last couple of

:16:03. > :16:05.seasons. Cindy Ophelia out this season through injury. Tiffany

:16:06. > :16:09.Porter was not competing yesterday with a little niggle. Chance to see

:16:10. > :16:26.new talent on the blocks. Steve Cram is your commentator for this one.

:16:27. > :16:31.The line-up... The women's 100-metre hurdles.

:16:32. > :16:47.Very, very close. Quite tight now. Yes, she does! Miller over the last

:16:48. > :16:53.two hurdles felt the pressure and could not hang on. Leading up to

:16:54. > :16:58.that point. Good strong finish from Barrett, the 19-year-old, takes her

:16:59. > :17:04.first senior title, and maybe one of a few to come, you never know. She

:17:05. > :17:10.will improve, get better. Just look at the lean. She wanted this title,

:17:11. > :17:17.didn't she? Miller will be disappointed she could not hang on.

:17:18. > :17:24.And second, Jessica Hunter. We will hear from training and cello,

:17:25. > :17:30.Barrett's coach later on -- Toni Minichiello. Tiffany Porter has been

:17:31. > :17:34.given permission to miss the trials because of a hamstring niggle, I

:17:35. > :17:37.guess selectors feel it is more important she stays fit and gets in

:17:38. > :17:44.shape for the World Championships. You are spot on. Same thing with

:17:45. > :17:47.Andrew Pozzi, he put his case to the federation, they said, yeah, you

:17:48. > :17:52.will benefit more running well and a strong race in Paris, which he has

:17:53. > :17:55.absolutely done. For me, sometimes you have to look at the progression

:17:56. > :18:02.of the athletes and what you want them to do. Many years, if he gets

:18:03. > :18:05.better, being more successful, and being able to draw the crowd here. I

:18:06. > :18:11.think he will appreciate the opportunity at running at a high

:18:12. > :18:16.level now. Barrett, new British champion, 19, a talent we would look

:18:17. > :18:19.to develop over the next few years, and hopefully will be representing

:18:20. > :18:23.Great Britain in major championships to come. What did you think of her?

:18:24. > :18:27.For somebody so young, to keep a cool head when she was down and she

:18:28. > :18:31.worked her way through the field, phenomenal performance to see

:18:32. > :18:36.someone so young to deliver that. It was good to see. She is in good

:18:37. > :18:40.hands, we know that. Absolutely. I am sure Toni will tell me more about

:18:41. > :18:45.her later on. Colin, you are in charge on the microphone for the

:18:46. > :18:49.next heat of the 100-metre hurdles, 110 metre hurdles, with Andrew

:18:50. > :18:58.Cotter. I will hand back to Andrew. Thank you. Khai Riley-La-Borde will

:18:59. > :19:05.fancy his chances in this one. The first two heats won comfortable you

:19:06. > :19:09.by David Omoregie and David King respectively. Jake Porter will be

:19:10. > :19:12.looking to get in the top two and both he and Khai Riley-La-Borde

:19:13. > :19:15.would be the strongest contenders here for the automatic places. Khai

:19:16. > :19:30.Riley-La-Borde, Dixon Earl... The third of the three heats and the

:19:31. > :19:40.men's 110 metres hurdles. Khai Riley-La-Borde, there he is. Most

:19:41. > :19:48.successful high hurdle club, Enfield and Haringey. Do you know why? They

:19:49. > :19:52.merged. Olympic finalists at the same time whether coaches. You were

:19:53. > :19:57.in there as well. Euan Dickson-Earle, three Britons in the

:19:58. > :20:08.final in 92. Matthew Hewitt of Southampton goes inlay five here...

:20:09. > :20:13.Jake Porter, Birchfield Harriers, strong contingent from this club

:20:14. > :20:26.competing here, new personal best in Denmark last month. Reece Young of

:20:27. > :20:32.lactate and Bromley, new personal best, 14.83 this year -- Blackheath

:20:33. > :20:34.and Bromley. Another Birchfield Harriers, multi-eventing as well,

:20:35. > :20:55.good heptathlete, Okoro. David King and David Omoregie both

:20:56. > :20:59.comfortable winners in their heats. Two go through automatically. Khai

:21:00. > :21:04.Riley-La-Borde on the inside, Euan Dickson-Earle, Matthew Hewitt, Jake

:21:05. > :21:12.Porter, Reece Young, Okoro, the last of their heats in the men's 110

:21:13. > :21:15.metre hurdles. Cleanly away. Khai Riley-La-Borde being left a little

:21:16. > :21:22.bit by Jake Porter at the moment. Those two separating themselves.

:21:23. > :21:26.Powering themselves on. Khai Riley-La-Borde takes it. A little

:21:27. > :21:32.bit slower than the first two heats. We did expect David Omoregie and

:21:33. > :21:34.David King to be the favourites. Khai Riley-La-Borde will have

:21:35. > :21:40.something to say in the final and Jake Porter makes his way through as

:21:41. > :21:44.well. Good head to head. Really good. Nice to see that, actually.

:21:45. > :21:52.Even though it is the heats, you still want to see quite

:21:53. > :21:57.competitively and Kylie Riding the -- Khai Riley-La-Borde and Jake

:21:58. > :22:02.Porter, I expected them to make mistakes, but they kept cool heads,

:22:03. > :22:06.focused on the barriers, did exactly what was necessary. They have set

:22:07. > :22:10.themselves very well up for the final. Could have a couple of

:22:11. > :22:20.athletes under the 14 second mark. Two a long way clear of the rest in

:22:21. > :22:24.these, in the others, one ahead, there is a gap between four and five

:22:25. > :22:29.and the others. Most are very young. This is an event you Midge Ure into

:22:30. > :22:39.as you get physically stronger, you get better, stronger -- you Midge

:22:40. > :22:45.into. Pretty promising. Powerful looking figure, Khai Riley-La-Borde.

:22:46. > :22:50.Upper body strength. Really strong, really powerful. Even with that

:22:51. > :22:57.bulk, he still manages to get over the barriers, runs well and hard.

:22:58. > :23:02.This is a really good sign for him. He is only 21, plenty more

:23:03. > :23:07.improvement to come. Looking for someone to step up, not because

:23:08. > :23:10.Andrew Pozzi is going very well, but will shaman struggling with injury

:23:11. > :23:14.and Lawrence Clarke doing other things rather than athletics, a

:23:15. > :23:21.little bit of a gap there for others to try to step up and get close to

:23:22. > :23:25.the 13.50, 13.40. Khai Riley-La-Borde taking his place in

:23:26. > :23:32.the final. Personal best for Jake Porter, good run from him.

:23:33. > :23:37.A little earlier on, the crowd were hugely entertained by two cracking

:23:38. > :23:43.five K walks, first the turn of the women, Beth Davies from Cardiff,

:23:44. > :23:56.coached by Andy Drake, great squad going, Beth and Davis, a new

:23:57. > :23:59.national record, walked 2:21.52, a whole string of personal bests

:24:00. > :24:08.behind her. Congratulations to her. That was followed by Bosworth,

:24:09. > :24:14.coming home waving on the way to another British record, he is in

:24:15. > :24:19.superb form this year, walking a mile in the Anniversary Games next

:24:20. > :24:25.week. Watch out for that one. Tom Bosworth smashing the British record

:24:26. > :24:30.there and actually behind him I think Dickenson also broke the old

:24:31. > :24:34.British record. Superb performance. Good afternoon for the coach, Andy

:24:35. > :24:39.Drake. The shy retiring Tom Bosworth, everybody! Dickenson

:24:40. > :24:45.himself there, personal best for him, superb from Wilkinson as well.

:24:46. > :24:58.Host of personal bests. British walking is on a huge high, being led

:24:59. > :25:03.by Tom Bosworth. They look back at the competition completed earlier,

:25:04. > :25:11.the women's discus. The fifth round, her best of the afternoon. Already

:25:12. > :25:15.in the lead, extended it. 58.14 centimetres. She has qualified for

:25:16. > :25:18.the World Championships, the only competitor to have done so. She has

:25:19. > :25:24.wrapped it up with the British title. Defending her title here,

:25:25. > :25:30.Jade. Disappointed last week, but good win for her.

:25:31. > :25:34.We will shortly be seeing the women's 200-metre heats, but some of

:25:35. > :25:38.the very best of British women's sprinting well in action yesterday

:25:39. > :25:42.with the 100 metres. Let us catch up on that.

:25:43. > :25:49.Dina Asher-Smith goes in laying four. It should be a very, very

:25:50. > :26:04.competitive final. Eno Asha Philip quickly away.

:26:05. > :26:11.Ashleigh Nelson will try to get there. She gets it just, Dina

:26:12. > :26:19.Asher-Smith. She understandably was never in it, winning time, a fourth

:26:20. > :26:24.UK title to add to her European indoor title, Asha Philip is

:26:25. > :26:30.champion again, just confirmation of it all. Daryll Neita getting the

:26:31. > :26:35.second automatic qualifying place. Working really hard this year, doing

:26:36. > :26:39.amazingly. The fact we came first and second again, the Olympics all

:26:40. > :26:43.over again. Quite happy with my run, the fact I qualified is the main

:26:44. > :26:47.reason why I was here so I am happy. So much strength and depth these

:26:48. > :26:50.days in British female sprinting, there must be an awful lot of

:26:51. > :26:56.pressure, you want to make the team so desperately. It was anyone's

:26:57. > :27:06.game. I am really happy to have made it. London, got tickets, even though

:27:07. > :27:09.we are not flying anywhere! Congratulations to them. The big

:27:10. > :27:15.name we had so many hopes for four this season, Dina Asher-Smith, very

:27:16. > :27:18.impressive Olympic Games, came off the winter season looking great

:27:19. > :27:23.ahead of the indoor Championships, and then had to pull out earlier in

:27:24. > :27:27.the season from Birmingham with an injury and it has been that injury

:27:28. > :27:31.that has taken her so long to get back from and yesterday, her first

:27:32. > :27:35.race of 2017, great emotion afterwards, and she was quick to

:27:36. > :27:38.clarify, not because she was disappointed, just so relieved to

:27:39. > :27:46.get through the race. It is one thing testing yourself in training,

:27:47. > :27:49.but to come through that process, it will have given her some confidence

:27:50. > :27:53.she is able to get back into some shape this season. I think so. The

:27:54. > :27:59.start of next week, only training for three weeks, just had the most

:28:00. > :28:03.horrific injury, to come back, to race here, what a race it was, we

:28:04. > :28:07.will give her some confidence. It is not easy. She wants to be at the

:28:08. > :28:11.championships but you have to listen to your body, especially when you

:28:12. > :28:16.have a foot and ankle injury, it is tough getting back. You need races

:28:17. > :28:20.as well, to get the confidence. She has time, we established earlier on,

:28:21. > :28:25.the qualifying period is up until the end of July. She has to get

:28:26. > :28:30.races in. If you were a betting woman right now? Her pedigree

:28:31. > :28:33.dictates she deserves the respect, she deserves that she improves

:28:34. > :28:39.herself time and time again with championships. The thing is, what is

:28:40. > :28:43.key is she comes away from competition pain-free and that she

:28:44. > :28:46.can put together a few weeks of training and there is the

:28:47. > :28:50.Anniversary Games and there is time, don't panic. Such unfortunate timing

:28:51. > :28:55.with the challenges in London as well. Let us head out to the track.

:28:56. > :28:58.She could have been running in the 200 metres, but the perceived wisdom

:28:59. > :29:06.was that when you are just coming off an injury to the foot, the Bend

:29:07. > :29:09.is not the best place to test it out. I will let Andrew Cotter and

:29:10. > :29:14.Colin Jackson talk you through this one.

:29:15. > :29:18.COMMENTATOR: In UK terms, only Desiree Henry has run faster this

:29:19. > :29:28.year than bank Williams and Bianca Williams goes here in lane six. --

:29:29. > :29:31.than Bianca Williams. Just want to go through automatically and it is

:29:32. > :29:42.Bianca Williams's raced to dominate because the others are not quite up

:29:43. > :29:44.to her standard. On the outside, from the city of York, new personal

:29:45. > :30:03.best this season, 24.1 four. Barrett, in the colours of

:30:04. > :30:08.Chesterfield, just 19. Has run close to 24.

:30:09. > :30:13.Bianca Williams has run 22.83 this season in Gainesville in Florida

:30:14. > :30:20.this season. Joanne Ryan, now 30. 24.68 this

:30:21. > :30:37.season. Bloor, from the Trafford club. A

:30:38. > :30:43.silver-medallist in the in the Commonwealth Games. -- in the 4x100m

:30:44. > :30:57.in the Commonwealth Games. In the centre, Bianca Williams,

:30:58. > :31:06.running well. Ran in the 100 as well, but this is

:31:07. > :31:18.the stronger event for her. Four heats, so just one going

:31:19. > :31:45.through automatically and four fastest losers.

:31:46. > :31:54.The automatic qualifier will be Bianca Williams. 22.9, pretty good,

:31:55. > :32:00.inside 23 seconds. That is what athletes of her calibre will be

:32:01. > :32:05.looking for. It is legal as well, plus 1.6 metres per second. A strong

:32:06. > :32:11.favourite for that race, but again, you have to deliver, which Bianca

:32:12. > :32:15.Williams certainly did. A good run. A very good run. Out of the blocks

:32:16. > :32:20.well, aggressive but controlled. You can't just hammer out of the blocks

:32:21. > :32:26.in the 200 and think you can go flat out. A nice controlled race Bianca

:32:27. > :32:33.is showing. She is just relaxing, not pressing. Taking it through to

:32:34. > :32:42.the line. Good, good solid performance from her. It has been

:32:43. > :32:46.rounded down to 22.89. As you say, it's not who finishes the fastest,

:32:47. > :32:53.it is who decelerates the least. And maintaining the relaxed form. Always

:32:54. > :32:58.key in the 200. You come off the bend and you get flung out. The

:32:59. > :33:02.stride will lengthen. You could be tempted to push on but you have to

:33:03. > :33:08.be nice and controlled, look at the little smile, she is happy with

:33:09. > :33:16.that. A good run and a good time, 22.89. A season's best time for

:33:17. > :33:21.Bloor. She will wait to see if that is good enough to see her through.

:33:22. > :33:24.Before the next heat, some more action from yesterday with Phil

:33:25. > :33:33.Jones. British record-holder Holly Bradshaw

:33:34. > :33:37.cleared a modest 4.45 at the first attempt to win the women's pole

:33:38. > :33:41.vault, in spite of what she called a recent dip in form. The double

:33:42. > :33:46.Olympian knows that greater heights are within reach. But she is off to

:33:47. > :33:51.the World Championships in London. Although I have had a bit of a blip

:33:52. > :33:57.and an injury scare, I am back on track. 4.90 is in the tank and could

:33:58. > :34:02.be good enough for a medal, maybe even win it. All my focus is on that

:34:03. > :34:05.now, nothing else matters. Rio finalist Morgan Lake dominated the

:34:06. > :34:12.high jump and showed her credentials for another world final in London,

:34:13. > :34:17.living a lifetime best of 1.96. The 20-year-old, clearly in the form of

:34:18. > :34:23.her life, attempted a new British record of 1.99, to no avail. You

:34:24. > :34:27.must be thrilled. Absolutely ecstatic. I saw the sun was shining,

:34:28. > :34:35.home crowd, I thought if it is going to be any day, it has to be today.

:34:36. > :34:42.Definitely. Morgan Lake is not doing the heptathlon. Focusing on the high

:34:43. > :34:46.jump. Qualifying for London with a new PB, two centimetres from a

:34:47. > :34:52.British record. I love watching her. When she is on, she is on. But last

:34:53. > :34:56.weekend, in the European team championship, it wasn't her weekend.

:34:57. > :35:03.She is very much a confidence athlete. She is. Sometimes she

:35:04. > :35:09.expresses a lot of emotion. When it is game on, she is really there, but

:35:10. > :35:13.sometimes she can falter. With her maturity, she's going to need to

:35:14. > :35:18.work on that in the years to come. Stunning high jump yesterday, a new

:35:19. > :35:24.personal best, 1.96, I thought it was great. I am saying I am pleased

:35:25. > :35:32.she is shelving the habitat along, but I think she is a natural high

:35:33. > :35:37.jumper. -- shelving the heptathlon. This seems where she is at home.

:35:38. > :35:41.Maybe if the confidence comes from great performances in the high jump,

:35:42. > :35:48.maybe she will get back to the multi-event. Are you doubtful of

:35:49. > :35:53.that? I am. I have seen her upset too many times when things have not

:35:54. > :36:01.gone her way. What in the high jump, when it is on, it is just a thing of

:36:02. > :36:04.beauty. KJT has the qualifying in the habitat on and could yet be

:36:05. > :36:10.selected in the high jump as well. Jodie Williams, ready for the next

:36:11. > :36:16.of the 200-metre heats. Steve Cram is taking this one. Hello, Steve.

:36:17. > :36:23.COMMENTATOR: I think people look to Jodie but this is the young woman a

:36:24. > :36:28.lot of people are looking at. Shannon Hylton. Her twin sister has

:36:29. > :36:31.got through to the 400 metres final. Shannon already has the qualifying

:36:32. > :36:41.time in this 200-metre event. Jodie Williams is now part of the

:36:42. > :36:47.same training group, back from the States. A big test for her. Not

:36:48. > :36:53.really hitting her straps just yet this year. 23.63, but like Bianca

:36:54. > :37:00.Williams, would love to rediscover 2014 form. Didn't run badly last

:37:01. > :37:08.year. Hannah Thomas from Cardiff in 97. -- in lane seven. Stacey Downie

:37:09. > :37:23.ran a personal best. Nicole Kendall has run a 100-metre

:37:24. > :37:30.personal best this year. 24.55 her best at 200.

:37:31. > :37:38.Westwood, 18, 24.79 her new best, set this year.

:37:39. > :37:46.Shannon Hylton, choosing to concentrate on the 200 metres. A

:37:47. > :37:51.massive talent, the Hylton sisters. Like the Nielsens. One of them had a

:37:52. > :37:58.disastrous run in the 400-metre heats yesterday. Hylton, a new

:37:59. > :38:07.personal best at 100 metres this year. Shows she has the speed.

:38:08. > :38:11.11.47. What did I say? Ten? That would be good!

:38:12. > :38:34.Only the winner goes through. Four fastest losers.

:38:35. > :38:43.Hylton nicely into her running, putting on a bit of a show.

:38:44. > :38:49.Throttling back and still running 23.06, inside the qualifying mark.

:38:50. > :38:55.We will have to look for the time for Jodie Williams, bearing in mind

:38:56. > :39:01.that Bloor ran 23.65 for second in the first heat. Two more to come.

:39:02. > :39:10.That was really good. I will let you have a look at the start! After

:39:11. > :39:13.that... Coming off the bend, she looked so good and was able to

:39:14. > :39:18.throttle back in the last 20. She reminds me very much of Allyson

:39:19. > :39:25.Felix as a runner, her style and form. Just glides away, around the

:39:26. > :39:31.bend. Off the turn, a lovely sense of balance. Really effortless.

:39:32. > :39:37.Exactly what you want to see. It is fast and controlled and powerful.

:39:38. > :39:44.For such a young woman, again, really good to see. Steve, our sport

:39:45. > :39:49.has so much potential with so many youngsters being good, having

:39:50. > :39:55.ambition, drive, aspirations to be world class. When you have the

:39:56. > :39:59.talent, as demonstrated there... Calm and cool. Absolutely loving

:40:00. > :40:04.what I am seeing. I am looking forward to the final. When she comes

:40:05. > :40:09.out of the blocks, she has to drive. She can't just use her natural

:40:10. > :40:14.talent to take her through. When you watch her running like that, natural

:40:15. > :40:18.is a great word to use. Very relaxed, a nice smile. A huge

:40:19. > :40:27.talent. Well, her sister could have won this event as well. She chose

:40:28. > :40:33.the 400 metres. She is in lane eight in the 400 final. Jodie

:40:34. > :40:39.is leading the fastest losers at the moment. A season's best for her. For

:40:40. > :40:44.Jodie Williams. The men's pole vault. Jax Thoirs,

:40:45. > :41:02.5.1 five. 24 years of age, in his prime.

:41:03. > :41:06.Personal-best from two years ago. Just drifting off sideways on that.

:41:07. > :41:10.We'll make some adjustments. Scottish record-holder. Luke Cutts,

:41:11. > :41:19.yet to come in. 5.15, the early height, and a good

:41:20. > :41:24.clearance. The next height is 5.30. He goes

:41:25. > :41:42.into first at this early stage. A great clearance from Myers. I have

:41:43. > :41:45.been looking forward to seeing him. Just 20, competed in the world

:41:46. > :41:50.Juniors last year. He has improved this winter. Young man looking to

:41:51. > :41:57.impress at the British championships, the world trials. No

:41:58. > :42:01.one has qualified. 5.70 needed. Myers looking good at 5.15, a

:42:02. > :42:12.first-time clearance. The third heat of the women's 200

:42:13. > :42:16.metres. Desiree Henry will be trying to impress, having watched the

:42:17. > :42:25.anchor Williams and Shannon Hylton running so strongly. Look out also

:42:26. > :42:28.for Walker and Baptiste. Walker does not start. So do not look out for

:42:29. > :42:41.her because you will be looking long time.

:42:42. > :42:52.Lucy Evans, now 34. Has gone below 24 seconds in her time.

:42:53. > :42:59.Baptiste made the semifinal of the 100 metres, ran pretty well there.

:43:00. > :43:08.Close to going below 24 seconds this season. Nobody in lane five. A bit

:43:09. > :43:14.of a gap outside Desiree Henry. The red name. She chose not to compete

:43:15. > :43:16.in the 100, but she is quickest over both 100 and 200 metres in UK terms

:43:17. > :43:30.this year. Wood from Guildford and Godalming,

:43:31. > :43:41.just 18. Desiree Henry has the quickest times

:43:42. > :43:48.over the 100 and 200 this year, set in the same meeting. Sometimes

:43:49. > :43:53.meetings throw a very quick times, but she ran very quickly in

:43:54. > :43:56.California in April. She will have watched Bianca Williams and Shannon

:43:57. > :44:00.Hylton, running well in the first heats. Time for Desiree Henry to

:44:01. > :44:17.control heat three. Well, called back. The first false

:44:18. > :44:21.start of the day. Desiree Henry was very quickly out of the blocks. I

:44:22. > :44:27.hope it's just... Sometimes there are technical faults. There haven't

:44:28. > :44:32.been many, but it did look a good start from Desiree Henry. The drama

:44:33. > :44:38.begins to build. It is a bit of drama. It is really hard to see. To

:44:39. > :44:42.cover all the lanes to see who could have made that mistake.

:44:43. > :44:55.There was a rock in lane eight. From Fabunmi Alade. That was a long time

:44:56. > :45:01.before. So quite difficult to see. Let's hope it's nobody. They can all

:45:02. > :45:05.just gather themselves. Sometimes we have technical faults. It is a green

:45:06. > :45:17.card, just a technical fault. No official offence there. One

:45:18. > :45:22.disqualification yesterday in the 400 metres, the men.

:45:23. > :45:30.But I haven't seen many at this meeting, so we will do it again.

:45:31. > :45:36.Wood on the inside. Jodie Leslie. Desiree Henry goes in four. Baptiste

:45:37. > :45:41.in six, Evans in seven and Fabunmi Alade in lane eight.

:45:42. > :45:52.The third of four heats in the women's 200 metres.

:45:53. > :46:06.Cleanly away this time. Bit of ground to make up, Henry. Henry

:46:07. > :46:10.moving so smoothly around the bend. Just one to go through

:46:11. > :46:17.automatically. Picking up the knees and driving down the home straight,

:46:18. > :46:21.Desiree Henry. Henry can ease down, just about the same time as Shannon

:46:22. > :46:26.Hylton. The wind helpful down the home straight.

:46:27. > :46:33.Job done, through to the final. I am scanning the wind socks, looking up

:46:34. > :46:38.the ones by the javelin, down the home street, there is a really

:46:39. > :46:43.favourable wind coming across the bend, perhaps that is the reason why

:46:44. > :46:48.we are seeing good, fast 200 metres sprinting, it is nice to see.

:46:49. > :46:52.Desiree Henry, in the middle of the field, the most relaxed I have seen

:46:53. > :46:56.her run, she looks very much in control of this, doesn't she?

:46:57. > :47:00.Pumping the arms with no real tension in the shoulders, she can

:47:01. > :47:04.just concentrate on drifting through. It is going to be

:47:05. > :47:11.interesting when they line up for the final because the lane draw is

:47:12. > :47:14.going to matter. Yes, not a huge amount of competition in the heats

:47:15. > :47:20.in terms of who is winning because there are certain athletes a long

:47:21. > :47:24.way clear. Shannon Hylton and too Bianca Williams and Desiree Henry,

:47:25. > :47:33.but in the final, it will be blue competitor. A good run from Desiree

:47:34. > :47:40.Henry. -- it will be uber competitive. We are all looking

:47:41. > :47:48.forward to it. 23.08 four Desiree Henry, saving a little bit of energy

:47:49. > :47:54.for the final. Personal best for the second-place athlete as well and too

:47:55. > :47:58.for Alade, a little further adrift in third, but Kimberly Baptiste has

:47:59. > :48:04.a chance of going through as a fastest loser. Great running so far,

:48:05. > :48:06.one more to come, the final is the penultimate event on the track today

:48:07. > :48:12.and it promises to be a cracking race. We have a moment to talk about

:48:13. > :48:17.the new athletics integrity unit with Paula Radcliffe. You may have

:48:18. > :48:21.heard this week it was announced it will operate separately to the IAAF

:48:22. > :48:26.and it will hopefully Expedia eight and speed up matters to do with

:48:27. > :48:31.drugs and to help not just the veneer but the reality of a cleaner

:48:32. > :48:35.sport of athletics. I guess this summer of all summers, people want

:48:36. > :48:41.to believe in performances. Will the integrity unit do that? It is really

:48:42. > :48:45.important. The first fully independent body to look after all

:48:46. > :48:48.matters of integrity, anti-corruption, everything we went

:48:49. > :48:53.through in 2015, it will stop things like that in the sport, it is

:48:54. > :48:57.anti-doping, transfer of allegiance, illegal betting, age-group minute

:48:58. > :49:00.collation, all of those things, bringing in investigation and

:49:01. > :49:06.prosecution under one roof, so there is no flow from the IAAF, no

:49:07. > :49:10.information flow from the integrity unit back to the IAAF and it is

:49:11. > :49:15.athlete centred. The first body that will not just be trying to catch

:49:16. > :49:19.people, it is protecting every clean athlete, we want to work with the

:49:20. > :49:22.athletes and follow-up on information from them. Why will it

:49:23. > :49:27.work quicker and more efficiently? It will work much more efficiently,

:49:28. > :49:33.that is not too hard, given the way things have worked in the past! It

:49:34. > :49:36.will definitely bring in a lot more intelligence, investigation, working

:49:37. > :49:41.a lot more on that. Yes, the testing will be improved and there will be

:49:42. > :49:44.more testing across anti-doping. And following up on leads, listening to

:49:45. > :49:48.the athletes, really targeting things in the right way. That will

:49:49. > :49:56.be the area where it will move forward, and this could lead -- and

:49:57. > :49:59.the speed of cases coming through. Big step forward? Big step forward,

:50:00. > :50:04.the first body of its like in any sport and it will lead the way.

:50:05. > :50:07.Important thing to say, athletics gets rightly a lot of attention but

:50:08. > :50:12.when you compare to other sports, the depth and breadth of the

:50:13. > :50:16.investigations they conduct, into anti-corruption matters, it is a lot

:50:17. > :50:23.wider than other sports. Yeah, we do not hide for it, we look for it.

:50:24. > :50:28.Thank you. The fourth of the women's 200-metre heats, Steve Cram will

:50:29. > :50:37.talk you through this one. COMMENTATOR: The last of the four.

:50:38. > :50:44.A quick appraisal of where we are at, the winner to go through. Four

:50:45. > :50:52.fastest losers as well. Fastest loser spots held by Kimberly

:50:53. > :50:57.Baptiste and others. Any of these athletes, they would have to run a

:50:58. > :50:58.personal best, probably best Dobbin is the only one with a chance of

:50:59. > :51:15.running a personal best. A new personal best for Dobbin in

:51:16. > :51:21.Belgium last week, in good form, 23.72. If she were to repeat that,

:51:22. > :51:26.she would just sneaked into the final, if she is second. She has not

:51:27. > :51:30.raced outside of the US since Birmingham last year at the trials,

:51:31. > :51:46.Pipi, she has been in great form, and Charlotte Oughton, the

:51:47. > :51:53.18-year-old on the inside. Pipi is one of those who knows, get the

:51:54. > :51:56.final, finishing the top two... This is warming up nicely, really good

:51:57. > :52:02.performances from Bianca Williams, Shannon Hylton and Desiree Henry.

:52:03. > :52:08.The American -based Pipi, can she look as good, look as controlled and

:52:09. > :52:19.confident and other impressive, I have to say, as the other three?

:52:20. > :52:28.Sat on the blocks. Probably told, for goodness' sake, don't make a

:52:29. > :52:31.false start. She has ground to make up on Dobbin. Chasing down the

:52:32. > :52:37.Edinburgh athlete. A little bit of work to do, you would expect her to

:52:38. > :52:46.get there. Dobbin is going away again. Dobbin has run a brilliant

:52:47. > :52:51.race here. The time, 23.33. She has not almost half a second off her

:52:52. > :52:57.personal best! Pipi got left in the blocks. She stood up. Really slow

:52:58. > :53:02.start. She could not get going. She could not really change that into a

:53:03. > :53:08.low 23 run. She will go through, but goodness me, what a performance from

:53:09. > :53:15.Dobbin. But will see her into the final. I like to see athletes doing

:53:16. > :53:19.that. Looking at the four big names, it is worrying for Pipi, I have to

:53:20. > :53:23.say, but what a great one from Dobbin. Excellent run. This is what

:53:24. > :53:27.the Championships are all about, they throw up anomalies, people who

:53:28. > :53:34.have life changing performances. Nearly knocked half a second off her

:53:35. > :53:38.lifetime best! Solid all the way through. She looked like at no stage

:53:39. > :53:43.was she going to give up any more ground. Hard from gun to tape, nice

:53:44. > :53:47.control, nice balance. I am just wondering whether Pipi was thinking,

:53:48. > :53:52.looked at the start list, I am nearly a second ahead, I don't

:53:53. > :53:57.really have to try. Once somebody steps up, it is very hard to get

:53:58. > :54:03.yourself out of that mindset and really pushed on to get the good

:54:04. > :54:07.performance. But I think, Steve, are my rights to think both will make it

:54:08. > :54:18.through? You are giving me the nod of approval. Let us see if Dobbin

:54:19. > :54:22.can raise her game. -- let us see if Pipi can raise her game. She will

:54:23. > :54:27.have to step up, she tightened up, trying to chase, could not perform.

:54:28. > :54:31.Difficult for those American -based, they have come over just wants to

:54:32. > :54:40.compete here and it shows, not easy to convert the fast times in

:54:41. > :54:44.America. 23.53, that will go through as fastest loser, we will tidy that

:54:45. > :54:48.up for you shortly, but great win by Dobbin. In the absence of Greg

:54:49. > :54:56.Rutherford, favourite to take the long jump title, first jump here...

:54:57. > :55:01.Dan Bramble. Good effort. He does not look please. He won last week

:55:02. > :55:08.with eight metres flat, chasing World Championships qualifying of

:55:09. > :55:14.8.15 to join Greg. 8.02, that was, for Dan Bramble. We have seen a

:55:15. > :55:19.couple of athletes go clear already. Perfect conditions for pole

:55:20. > :55:28.vaulting, warm, slight wind. Good clearance. World youth champion in

:55:29. > :55:35.2013. Another youngster to look out for, Harry Coppell. So often

:55:36. > :55:43.athletes come to together, we have 20-year-old, Harry Coppell, and we

:55:44. > :55:50.have also seen another go clear at this height. 5.40 man from the sea.

:55:51. > :56:03.Showing some really competent pole vaulting technique -- from this

:56:04. > :56:09.year. He will advance to 5.30. Max Eves looking to match what the

:56:10. > :56:15.youngsters have already done. Max Eaves, now 29, also goes clear, 5.1

:56:16. > :56:19.five. Good competition bubbling up just outside the back straight,

:56:20. > :56:24.basking in the sunshine here at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.

:56:25. > :56:32.Commonwealth bronze-medallist in 2010, Max. Essex Eagles, his club.

:56:33. > :56:39.Just manoeuvred his body over that. Tidy jumps at these early heights.

:56:40. > :56:44.Finding a groove, 5.30 is the next height. Looks like it will be that

:56:45. > :56:54.and more to stay in contention. Max Eaves in third place. Scott Huggins,

:56:55. > :57:03.and a little bit of pressure here, two fouls. 5.26 he has jumped this

:57:04. > :57:14.year. We know he is capable. Good plant. That is better. Yeah, come

:57:15. > :57:19.on! Two fouls, that would have been out, but he does go clear, stays in

:57:20. > :57:28.the competition. Let us have a look at this. Maybe not quite as much

:57:29. > :57:35.clearance as the previous attempts, but clearance all the same. Gets a

:57:36. > :57:46.zero after two crosses and he will advance to the next height of 5.30.

:57:47. > :57:50.Five athletes clear at 5.15, some really good stuff in the men's pole

:57:51. > :57:58.vault. Fifth place for Scott Huggins because of those fouls. We said we

:57:59. > :58:00.would tidy it up for you, the top three looked very good indeed,

:58:01. > :58:08.Bianca Williams, Shannon Hylton, Desiree Henry, Beth Dobbin with a

:58:09. > :58:15.surprise win going through. Dobbin does go through as a fastest loser.

:58:16. > :58:20.-- Pipi does go through as a fastest loser. The sun continues to shine, a

:58:21. > :58:24.few clouds, here in Birmingham. The final of the men's 400 metres

:58:25. > :58:33.hurdles, this is how they line up. The four in the middle have all gone

:58:34. > :58:44.below 50 seconds this season. Niall Flannery, plenty of experience as

:58:45. > :58:53.well, on the outside. There is Niall Flannery, a man who has run 48.80 in

:58:54. > :58:59.his time, some way off that at the moment. Second in his heat, running

:59:00. > :59:07.on the outside. Jack Larry, youngster, 21, down to 50.25 this

:59:08. > :59:16.year. Jack Green, what a talent he has been for a while, a career

:59:17. > :59:23.disrupted by injury. And illness. Getting back close to his best. He

:59:24. > :59:28.has never won this title. Jacob Paul won his heat ahead of Niall

:59:29. > :59:37.Flannery. 49.60, new personal best this season, quick list qualifier as

:59:38. > :59:42.well. Tom Burton goes in lane four. Again a man who has run below 50

:59:43. > :59:49.seconds this season. Sebastian Rodger, won his heat, went to the

:59:50. > :00:00.Olympics with Jack Green last year. Southampton athlete James Forman,

:00:01. > :00:02.lane two. Brunel University student. Chris McAlister, Thames Valley

:00:03. > :00:22.Harriers, on the inside, just 21. Rodger took the title last year

:00:23. > :00:28.ahead of Green, who has never won the title despite all his talent.

:00:29. > :00:38.Green, looking to amend that today. He goes in lane six.

:00:39. > :00:53.The final of the men's 400 metres hurdles.

:00:54. > :01:03.A good lane for Rodger, able to target the men outside. The four in

:01:04. > :01:11.the middle, Rodger, Burton, Paul and Green should be contesting this.

:01:12. > :01:20.Rodger has a bit of work to do in lane three. A good run so far from

:01:21. > :01:27.Tom Burton. Rodger trying to make his move. Jack Green hoping he has

:01:28. > :01:34.saved a bit. The four in the middle contending the title.

:01:35. > :01:44.Rodger beginning to tire a bit. Green striding clear to take the

:01:45. > :01:47.title ahead of Paul. 49.36, Jack Green is finally the UK champion,

:01:48. > :01:57.and he is heading to the World Championships. Paul taking second. I

:01:58. > :02:01.thought Rodger would come through. Instead, Jacob Paul, the quickest

:02:02. > :02:07.qualifier, came through to take second. First to Jack Green. Again,

:02:08. > :02:11.a race, I wouldn't say he controlled it because it was close until the

:02:12. > :02:16.final 50 metres, but he always has such great power in the latter

:02:17. > :02:21.stages. Jack is a rangy runner, he cites the barriers very well indeed.

:02:22. > :02:28.As he gets more into the event, he is judging it better, time and

:02:29. > :02:36.again. In a race like this, with a lot going on around him, he just

:02:37. > :02:42.takes his time. No stutter, allows him to run into each and every

:02:43. > :02:47.single barrier powerfully. Rodger was starting to make a move, and a

:02:48. > :02:52.little stutter which set him back. You can see how crucial it is. When

:02:53. > :02:57.you check back a stride, you don't go into the barrier aggressively and

:02:58. > :03:03.look how much distance you lose. And it is fatigued as well. A good run

:03:04. > :03:05.by Jacob Paul just inside Jack Green. But Jack Green is the

:03:06. > :03:10.champion. Quite a composed fashion. He is

:03:11. > :03:20.talking to Phil. A first UK title, but more

:03:21. > :03:25.importantly a place in London for the World Championships. After such

:03:26. > :03:30.a season, you knew you had to mail it today. Exactly. The most nervous

:03:31. > :03:33.I have been for a race this year. Completely different. It is all

:03:34. > :03:38.about getting the qualifying and going to the worlds. It is not just

:03:39. > :03:43.run as fast as I can and see what happens. Memories of London 2012,

:03:44. > :03:48.you were just coming onto the scene and you got to the semifinals. You

:03:49. > :03:53.saw that as a disappointment but now you think a lot differently. Yes, 20

:03:54. > :03:58.years old, 11th place in the world. If I can replicate that and push on,

:03:59. > :04:01.we are looking at something special hopefully. Let's hope so, all the

:04:02. > :04:12.best, Jack. Thank you very much. We are going to take a pause from

:04:13. > :04:17.the athletics for a moment to pay tribute to one of our athletes who

:04:18. > :04:22.has sadly died in a traffic accident in Jamaica earlier this year.

:04:23. > :04:25.Jermaine Mason, who won a medal in the Olympic Games in Beijing. A

:04:26. > :04:27.great man. A special tribute now which is going to be read by his

:04:28. > :04:39.coach. Ladies and gentleman, I am joined by

:04:40. > :04:44.high jump coach extraordinaire who would like to say a few words.

:04:45. > :04:48.Ladies and gentleman, I would like to take a moment to remember

:04:49. > :04:53.Jermaine Mason who sadly passed away this year. Jermaine will be best

:04:54. > :04:59.known for his amazing high jump silver medal in the Beijing games in

:05:00. > :05:04.2008. To his friends, team-mates and colleagues, he was so much more than

:05:05. > :05:08.that. As a sportsman, he was a prolific Junior and he won silver

:05:09. > :05:14.and bronze in the world Junior Championships in 2000 and 2002. In

:05:15. > :05:17.2004, he won a bronze medal in the world indoor Championships. But his

:05:18. > :05:24.Olympic medal in Beijing was his crowning moment, equalling his

:05:25. > :05:27.lifetime best with a jump of 2.34 on the biggest stage of all. As well as

:05:28. > :05:31.being an incredible athlete, he was a kind and gentle man. He was loved

:05:32. > :05:36.for his wry sense of humour and was a pleasure to be around. He will be

:05:37. > :05:42.greatly missed by everyone in the sport. And it was our honour to call

:05:43. > :05:46.him one of our own. He liked to put on a show, and it's only fitting

:05:47. > :05:52.that we honour this ethos. So please, we will start with a slow

:05:53. > :05:56.clap and build towards a magnificent crescendo, and I want you to

:05:57. > :05:59.visualise him flying over that bar with an effortless clearance. A

:06:00. > :06:05.fitting tribute to this great athlete. So please, follow my lead.

:06:06. > :06:26.Thank you very much, ladies and gentlemen.

:06:27. > :06:33.I was chatting to him a bit earlier today. I know that was emotional for

:06:34. > :06:37.him and for a lot of people who knew Germaine. A lot of athletes who knew

:06:38. > :06:39.him as a friend as well as a great athlete. I think that was a very

:06:40. > :06:53.fitting tribute as well. We have just seen the men's 400

:06:54. > :07:00.metres final. Next up will be the women's 400 metres... 400-metre

:07:01. > :07:04.hurdles, excuse me, final. It was a comfortable win for Jack. We expect

:07:05. > :07:21.a comfortable win for Eilidh Doyle as well.

:07:22. > :07:27.Colin, injury problems last year. Young Nielsen is taking on the

:07:28. > :07:36.400-metre hurdles. But suddenly Eilidh has found her mojo. Looked

:07:37. > :07:41.good again yesterday. The European teams was a great performance. Where

:07:42. > :07:45.do you think she is at? She is back into the groove. Most probably the

:07:46. > :07:50.best I have seen her do the stride pattern. If she can fill herself

:07:51. > :07:54.with that kind of confidence and bring it into this race, the speed

:07:55. > :07:58.she showed in the European team championship, with the stride

:07:59. > :08:01.pattern she has adopted now, fingers crossed, we will see ACs and is

:08:02. > :08:06.best. I bumped into her in the car park. -- ACs and's best. She was

:08:07. > :08:15.feeling confident. They will be excited to see what she

:08:16. > :08:19.does, her mum and dad. I am hoping this young lady can return as well.

:08:20. > :08:25.Because you always need competition, somebody biting at the heels to push

:08:26. > :08:32.you on. Back in the day, Eilidh had Perri Shakes-Drayton... This is what

:08:33. > :08:35.we need now, more people in the event. Chomping at the bit to get

:08:36. > :08:49.out there and have a go. Eilidh will be in lane six. Meghan

:08:50. > :08:54.Beesley is inside her. She has a habit of getting out there. She has

:08:55. > :08:57.had a bit of an up and down season, understandable, not quite back to

:08:58. > :09:03.top form yet. Not quite ready to go in the hurdles yet.

:09:04. > :09:11.Luke Cutts in the pole vault has passed all of the early heights. His

:09:12. > :09:19.first attempt, 5.30. He made that look easy. A good start for Luke. He

:09:20. > :09:26.is the highest personal best, five point 83, three years ago. The world

:09:27. > :09:34.qualifying is 5.70. Luke, looking to make the most of the glorious

:09:35. > :09:39.conditions today. A good start, a first-time clearance at 5.30. He

:09:40. > :09:54.In case you missed it the first time, here is the start list again.

:09:55. > :10:06.Jessica Turner, 21, improving quickly.

:10:07. > :10:11.The Birchfield Harriers on the outside. Plenty of local athletes,

:10:12. > :10:25.well represented in Birmingham. Desai, I have been watching her run

:10:26. > :10:27.since she was a wee label girl. -- a wee girl. Getting close to her best

:10:28. > :10:38.in the heats yesterday. Eilidh Doyle wouldn't like me to

:10:39. > :10:44.remind you she is 30 now. Perfect age to run a personal best. Meghan

:10:45. > :10:54.Beesley will want to try and take another step back to full recovery.

:10:55. > :11:00.56.8, 56.88, her best of the season. Granville, in good form, and Jessica

:11:01. > :11:08.Turner will be going to the European under 23 championships with a new

:11:09. > :11:09.personal best this year, 56.68. She looked pretty good in qualifying

:11:10. > :11:28.yesterday. Knight from Herne Hill Harriers on

:11:29. > :11:33.the inside. Another to set a personal best this year. Quite a few

:11:34. > :11:36.women looking at these British Championships to improve on where

:11:37. > :11:41.they are at in their careers, but for Eilidh the first thing is to

:11:42. > :11:45.guarantee selection. We think that shouldn't be a problem at all. Let's

:11:46. > :11:52.see how quick she can do. And what can Meghan Beesley do? The

:11:53. > :11:55.qualifying time is 56.1. Jessica Turner and Meghan Beesley are within

:11:56. > :12:06.about seven tenths of that. Colin, keeping an eye on the stride

:12:07. > :12:08.pattern. Eilidh Doyle has started quickly, as has Meghan Beesley. Not

:12:09. > :12:20.much to choose between them. Eilidh Doyle, looking strong and

:12:21. > :12:26.quick, as she has done. A bit untidy from Jessica Turner in lane three.

:12:27. > :12:30.Doyle starting to stamp her authority, moving away from Meghan

:12:31. > :12:34.Beesley. Turner trying to come into it in the home straight, but Meghan

:12:35. > :12:40.Beesley is running strong. A very good run but can she hold it

:12:41. > :12:48.together? Granville is going well. Doyle has a five-metre lead.

:12:49. > :12:57.Turner trying to get an there ahead of Meghan Beesley. It's going to be

:12:58. > :13:02.Eilidh Doyle, 55 point six. Beesley hangs on for second, which will give

:13:03. > :13:06.her the chance to chase the time somewhere else, she won't be inside

:13:07. > :13:13.the qualifying time today. Jessica Turner in third. Colin, it is

:13:14. > :13:18.awkward for Eilidh because winning here... It's not like it is not good

:13:19. > :13:22.enough, she can't win, we expect her to win, but then we get to pull it

:13:23. > :13:29.apart, praise it, whatever you want. What did you make of it? Looking

:13:30. > :13:32.across the back straight, it is quite blustery, Steve. The hurdle

:13:33. > :13:37.don't particularly enjoy a head wind down the back straight. In the

:13:38. > :13:41.sprint am of the 200 metres, there has been a tale wins down the home

:13:42. > :13:47.straight, running into the wind down the back straight. -- a tailwind

:13:48. > :13:51.down the home straight. But the key thing is, gaining experience all the

:13:52. > :13:55.time. At the Major Championship, you never know, you could be running

:13:56. > :13:58.into a headwind down the back straight. You have to gather this

:13:59. > :14:04.information and produce the best performance you can. She fell off

:14:05. > :14:07.the final barrier but it doesn't matter, it is just gaining

:14:08. > :14:10.experience, putting on and taking the title, which she has done

:14:11. > :14:16.comfortably. The real interest for me was Meghan because she attacked

:14:17. > :14:21.this race. Never afraid to give it a go, always challenging herself, and

:14:22. > :14:25.she has been rewarded with a best time of the season. Second,

:14:26. > :14:30.difficult conditions, let's see what she can produce later on. I think

:14:31. > :14:35.that is the key. There is more time for people to understand... First

:14:36. > :14:42.wave will be picked this week based on the top two, who has got the

:14:43. > :14:47.time. And then you have until I think the 25th, plenty of time, a

:14:48. > :14:50.bit unusual, so Meghan Beesley will hope this is a stepping stone

:14:51. > :15:02.towards 56.1 she needs. Steve, it is job done for this

:15:03. > :15:07.woman. Eilidh I suppose that is what it is all about, but you wanted to

:15:08. > :15:14.get more in terms of how far you can push the time? From my point of view

:15:15. > :15:20.it was really messy. I kind of lost my stride Hatton in the last 200,

:15:21. > :15:25.but yeah, the job today was to win. -- my stride pattern. Just need to

:15:26. > :15:32.sort that race out if I want to contend in the worlds. Are you

:15:33. > :15:35.confident you can do that? Last week showed I am in good shape, it is

:15:36. > :15:39.just all about getting the right rhythm. Some solid races

:15:40. > :15:47.back-to-back. Well done on another British title. Thanks very much.

:15:48. > :15:55.She will be happy to have got this weekend done and dusted, another

:15:56. > :16:03.couple of races, 55.59, as Colin was saying, a couple of tenths quicker

:16:04. > :16:07.for Meghan Beesley, moving in the right direction. Jessica Turner,

:16:08. > :16:14.solid third. She can look forward to the European under 23 championships.

:16:15. > :16:17.Next up on the track, the men's 200-metre heats. Many athletes were

:16:18. > :16:23.involved yesterday in the 100 metres. Here is the final now with

:16:24. > :16:36.Steve Cram. The line-up for the final...

:16:37. > :16:56.What an open door this is for James Dasaolu. Harry gets a pretty good

:16:57. > :17:02.start. Reece Prescod finishing very quickly Reece Prescod and James

:17:03. > :17:12.Dasaolu, they will be guaranteed a place in the 100 metres. Reece

:17:13. > :17:19.Prescod, the 21-year-old, Enfield and Haringey club, the winner,

:17:20. > :17:23.10.09, the winning time. James Dasaolu, he confirms his place in

:17:24. > :17:29.the team, 10.11. Well done to those two. Intrigue for the selectors for

:17:30. > :17:35.the third spot. I'm just glad over the last year, it has been a

:17:36. > :17:40.struggle for me. I am happy that now I can actually get ready for the

:17:41. > :17:43.World Championships in London, at home. British trials, the goal is

:17:44. > :17:47.always to finish the top two and make the team and I have done that.

:17:48. > :17:52.Got a good start. Really happy with my race, set it up well, but the

:17:53. > :17:57.guide, a few lanes out of me, came to. We're both through, that is all

:17:58. > :18:04.that counts, that is all the day was about. Part of this weekend is

:18:05. > :18:06.obviously about qualifying for the World Championships, a large part,

:18:07. > :18:14.but the selectors have a dilemma after the 100 metres with CJ Ujah

:18:15. > :18:20.and his problems and add Jimmy they -- Adam Gemili choosing not to

:18:21. > :18:32.compete in this. Simon Hughes does choose to compete the good, --

:18:33. > :18:36.compete though, going in lane four. Toby Harris, just 18, already an

:18:37. > :18:48.age-group international for Great Britain.

:18:49. > :19:01.Sam Landsborough, just one to go through from this heat. Sam Miller,

:19:02. > :19:04.forced into running the relay when Williams pulled out, and struggled a

:19:05. > :19:15.bit in the four by four, but that was an ask beyond him. He has gone

:19:16. > :19:20.below 21 seconds in his time, Tobais, but not this season. Donald

:19:21. > :19:24.Hughes, he missed we are with a knee ligament problem. At Beijing, he let

:19:25. > :19:34.on the scene, fifth in the final, and getting that close to that sort

:19:35. > :19:43.of running the, Michael Warner, ran 100 and BB yesterday, fairly modest,

:19:44. > :19:53.10.66. Williams, he has gone below 21 this season, just 21 himself. The

:19:54. > :19:58.100 metres was fairly competitive, pretty interesting, well won by

:19:59. > :20:09.Reece Prescod. The 200 metres is fascinating. Not yet to the blocks,

:20:10. > :20:16.the start asking them to stand up. Zharnel Hughes, as I mentioned, like

:20:17. > :20:20.so many sprinters who are slightly taller than average and talented,

:20:21. > :20:27.compared to Usain Bolt, an unfair comparison for any sprinter, but the

:20:28. > :20:32.one is certainly hugely talented. Absolutely. Beautiful at his very

:20:33. > :20:37.best. He literally glides around the bend. Very tall runner. Tends to be

:20:38. > :20:46.quite composed, even when he is not as sharp, keeps his composure. Fifth

:20:47. > :20:50.in the World Championships as a 19-year-old in Beijing, goes here in

:20:51. > :21:01.the first four heats of the men's 200. It is a recall. Is it us? I

:21:02. > :21:08.think it is when we get together, always a dodgy start! We did have

:21:09. > :21:12.that in the women's 200 heats and one they were called back and there

:21:13. > :21:18.was not anything obvious and it does not look to be anything obvious

:21:19. > :21:22.here. Maybe just a green card or someone given their marching orders.

:21:23. > :21:29.I was focusing on Zharnel Hughes and he certainly did not seem to be too

:21:30. > :21:34.early out of the blocks. I am looking if anything at Sam Miller,

:21:35. > :21:45.but I certainly do not want to cast naked eye aspersions on it. It may

:21:46. > :22:00.well just be a green card again. A receipt you talked about. Let us

:22:01. > :22:04.see. Lane three has been disqualified, Michael Warner, given

:22:05. > :22:22.the Shepherd's crook. Time to disrobe and watch. Now it is

:22:23. > :22:31.just Tom Williams, Zharnel Hughes, nobody in the lane inside him,

:22:32. > :22:36.Tobais, Sam Miller, Sam Landsborough and Toby Harries, just one to go

:22:37. > :22:45.through automatically. Starter not happy. This event has the most

:22:46. > :22:49.qualifiers of any at the World Championship level... General

:22:50. > :22:54.milling around from the athletes. Unsettling. You do not often see it

:22:55. > :23:09.in 200 metres, but the starter is unhappy with something. Conduct

:23:10. > :23:14.warning for Zharnel Hughes. Possibly he was taking a little bit of time

:23:15. > :23:17.into his blocks. There are many people right outside him who will be

:23:18. > :23:22.settled far earlier. Once you have been called for the blocks, you have

:23:23. > :23:31.to get in them, not too much gamesmanship. The Colin Jackson fall

:23:32. > :23:39.into the blocks, that was theatrical! Psyching out opponents.

:23:40. > :23:45.Ready once again for the first of four heats in the men's 200 metres.

:23:46. > :23:50.Away they go this time. Zharnel Hughes in the black and white of

:23:51. > :23:55.Shaftesbury and Barnet. A little bit of work to do with Tobais going off

:23:56. > :24:01.strongly. Easing his way around the bend, look so impressive from

:24:02. > :24:07.Zharnel Hughes. Able to look around, right, left, right again, strolls

:24:08. > :24:11.across the line in a time of 20.66, and he does look good again, looks

:24:12. > :24:14.comfortable, and all of that talent which has been disrupted a little

:24:15. > :24:18.bit by injury over the last couple of years is perhaps going to be

:24:19. > :24:21.fulfilled once again. He will be a force in this final, no doubt about

:24:22. > :24:26.that. There are other strong contenders. Adam Gemili, Mitchell

:24:27. > :24:33.Blake, others. But Zharnel Hughes lays down a marker. Good to see him

:24:34. > :24:38.run so well and nice and controlled. 200 metres, as we mentioned earlier,

:24:39. > :24:42.it is about the pace, getting a good, fast cadence around the bend,

:24:43. > :24:47.your stride length is a little bit shorter because of the fact the bend

:24:48. > :24:52.constricts your stride length, only on the home straight can you open up

:24:53. > :24:57.and really extend and when you open up and extend, you do not want to

:24:58. > :25:03.put pressure on yourself. It zaps energy. What Zharnel Hughes did was

:25:04. > :25:08.very good. Nice transition. Very easy, gliding down the home

:25:09. > :25:13.straight, checking left and right. You do not need to worry if you

:25:14. > :25:18.dress out of his lane, he would not be disqualified, even if he drifts

:25:19. > :25:23.too far right or left, it would be fine, as long as he is not impeding

:25:24. > :25:30.anybody. Helping wind. Sam Miller finished strongly as well to take

:25:31. > :25:33.second place. Just one automatic qualifier and the four fastest

:25:34. > :25:38.losers so Sam Miller has a chance. Personal best for Toby Harries as

:25:39. > :25:45.well. Zharnel Hughes a long way clear of winning the first heat of

:25:46. > :25:52.the men's 200 metres. Time to revisit what is becoming a good

:25:53. > :25:59.competition, we are now at 5.40. Slow on the bend. Bring in Toni

:26:00. > :26:05.Minichiello, what did you make of that? He decelerated a little bit,

:26:06. > :26:09.got underneath it. If he gets the pole at earlier and keeps

:26:10. > :26:13.accelerating into the box, that is the box where the poll goes into,

:26:14. > :26:19.really, I think he could improve. Get the 5.50 the next time.

:26:20. > :26:28.Clearance, season's best, runner-up last year. He has jumped 5.25, going

:26:29. > :26:38.well. 5.50 on the next height. Here is your winner from 2016, Luke

:26:39. > :26:52.Cutts. He has only had one jump at 5.30. Looking to match what he has

:26:53. > :26:57.just seen Jack Straw -- Jax Thoirs doing. He was sat down for the best

:26:58. > :27:00.part of an hour before the competition and now he is getting

:27:01. > :27:04.into the comfortable heights he is well capable of. He gets the pole

:27:05. > :27:11.out early, carries his speed in, up and over. Hopefully a season's best

:27:12. > :27:19.for him. Luke Cutts looking good, out in front, in the lead, 5.50 next

:27:20. > :27:32.height, 5.70 if they want to get on the team for the World Championships

:27:33. > :27:36.in London in a month. Also near the poll vote on the back straight,

:27:37. > :27:44.200-metre start, we move on the two, through safely and Nethaneel

:27:45. > :27:48.Mitchell-Blake, the next two step upon the stage, and it really is

:27:49. > :27:52.warming up to be a cracking 200-metre final, as long as the main

:27:53. > :27:56.contenders get through. Shenanigans yesterday around who was going to

:27:57. > :28:00.run what. Rate fun in the warm up area. Little games of chess being

:28:01. > :28:06.played among the coaches, whispering going on, he is only doing the 200?

:28:07. > :28:10.Is he? Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake could have run their 100 but he is

:28:11. > :28:14.only in the 200 metres. Really looking forward to seeing him

:28:15. > :28:24.compete. Going through them one by one first of all. Dan Putnam on the

:28:25. > :28:33.outside, 25. Just the winner to go through. Sam Miller's time was 25.85

:28:34. > :28:43.in second place. Thomas Somers, same training group with Pozzi and

:28:44. > :28:52.others, good group. 18-year-old Connor Wood, big talent, yet to

:28:53. > :28:59.break 21 seconds. This man has already gone under 20 seconds, not

:29:00. > :29:05.this year, been close, 20.04, chasing home the great new hope for

:29:06. > :29:07.American sprinting recently. We do not see him racing outside of the US

:29:08. > :29:15.very often. Looking forward to seeing him here. Edmond Amaning, new

:29:16. > :29:18.personal best in the British league. Talk about American Everything,

:29:19. > :29:25.British league still does it for some. Kyle Ennis, British university

:29:26. > :29:34.championships winner in May. Peter Shand, local man, trained by Tony

:29:35. > :29:40.Hadley, he is in lane two. We have not mentioned Miguel Francis, might

:29:41. > :29:44.throw that in later, another transfer, injured for the season

:29:45. > :29:50.though, he was meant to be in this mix as well, another training

:29:51. > :29:55.partner of Usain Bolt, cleared to run for Great Britain since April,

:29:56. > :30:01.but not expecting to see him. Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake, he has

:30:02. > :30:08.seen Zharnel Hughes put on a show, let us see what we get from him.

:30:09. > :30:19.Safely away, not a bad start from Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake.

:30:20. > :30:24.A little untidy off the bend, but looks good, strong. Comfortable.

:30:25. > :30:35.Checking back. These heats are Lee no problem for

:30:36. > :30:43.the top guys. In the low 22nd shape. -- really no problem. What out well.

:30:44. > :30:50.It is going to be interesting. Really good natural 100 metres

:30:51. > :30:56.speed. Danny Talbot, such a good bend runner. Gemili in the mix. All

:30:57. > :31:01.different 200-metre runners. Very different builds, some are more

:31:02. > :31:04.powerful and explosive, some are more balanced, some or more

:31:05. > :31:12.endurance -based, speed based. This is the good thing about 200 metres.

:31:13. > :31:13.John Reid -- John Regis was huge compared to some of the other

:31:14. > :31:21.runners. He blasted out of the blocks, got

:31:22. > :31:27.himself in a good position to control the race, and then shutdown

:31:28. > :31:30.and relax and enjoyed it. Doesn't have to accelerate with somebody

:31:31. > :31:36.coming up on his shoulder. Well clear of the field. Of course he's

:31:37. > :31:38.going to get a good lane draw, but where is it going to be? I am

:31:39. > :31:50.excited already. We expect the big four, someone

:31:51. > :31:53.won't be happy with the lane draw. Incidentally, John Regis was not

:31:54. > :32:02.bigger than most sprinters, he was bigger than all!

:32:03. > :32:08.Somers is a fastest loser at the moment with two more heats to come.

:32:09. > :32:15.Very exciting heats so far. The top two easing down with so much in the

:32:16. > :32:20.tank, it should be a great final this afternoon. I have had a message

:32:21. > :32:25.from home asking me why I am in a coat when it looks very warm. It is

:32:26. > :32:32.a bit chilly in the studio. A bit of a wind tunnel. They are just being

:32:33. > :32:35.brave without their jackets! A gorgeous day in Birmingham. But the

:32:36. > :32:41.track could look very different in a few years if Birmingham wins its

:32:42. > :32:45.opportunity to host the Commonwealth Games in 2022, after Durban pulled

:32:46. > :32:51.out. The world indoors coming to Birmingham next year. They will be

:32:52. > :32:58.held early next spring, February am here. So the city really... March,

:32:59. > :33:04.actually. They are looking to stamp themselves as an athletics capital.

:33:05. > :33:11.They really are. Liverpool are also a candidate for 2022. Absolutely,

:33:12. > :33:18.Denise is married to a man from Liverpool! It has been my training

:33:19. > :33:21.track. I have seen it developed, and both cities are the most

:33:22. > :33:25.progressive, I think, in the last ten years, in terms of development

:33:26. > :33:29.and what they can offer. Birmingham in particular has sport at its

:33:30. > :33:34.heart, it has done for many years. Big regeneration plans for the

:33:35. > :33:38.stadium and the whole Commonwealth Games site. I think it is fantastic

:33:39. > :33:42.for the young people in this city that look to sport to push them

:33:43. > :33:47.through their lives. The Commonwealth Games is not just about

:33:48. > :33:52.athletics, but regeneration of this stadium would be fantastic. We know

:33:53. > :33:57.from Manchester, Glasgow, the London Olympics how well these nations and

:33:58. > :34:00.regions put on these big events. Absolutely, I have a very special

:34:01. > :34:03.and fond memories of the Commonwealth Games in Manchester.

:34:04. > :34:08.There is nothing like that ability to compete in a Championships as big

:34:09. > :34:12.as a Commonwealth Games in a home country. You know the stadiums will

:34:13. > :34:18.be full and it will inspire youngsters to take up the sport. And

:34:19. > :34:23.we maybe I will to take our jackets off that summer, who knows? Let's

:34:24. > :34:25.get down for heat three of the men's 200 metres. Danny Talbot, the man to

:34:26. > :34:35.watch, Andrew. He certainly is, he is running well,

:34:36. > :34:55.in lane six. Just one going through automatically.

:34:56. > :35:04.Snaith, 21, he has gone below 21 seconds.

:35:05. > :35:13.Broome, the youngest in the line-up at 20.

:35:14. > :35:28.Talbot ran 20.31 last month. He ran under 20 seconds before that.

:35:29. > :35:37.Reid, 20.79 and Lee Valley last month.

:35:38. > :35:45.Gladman, a new personal best of 21.27 this season.

:35:46. > :35:52.Confidence is a wonderful thing. Confidence Lawson, in lane three.

:35:53. > :36:03.Max Montpellier ran well in the Championships last month. A new

:36:04. > :36:24.personal best. Zharnel Hughes and Nethaneel

:36:25. > :36:31.Mitchell-Blake, Goodwin is already in their heats. Now it is Danny

:36:32. > :36:37.Talbot's turn to try and impress. -- good winners already in their heats.

:36:38. > :36:55.One goes through automatically, and Danny Talbot has company inside from

:36:56. > :37:03.Reid. He could not ease down too much. 20.44 from Danny Talbot, so

:37:04. > :37:09.Reid will have been close to his personal best. Probably broken it.

:37:10. > :37:13.Danny Talbot, we expected him to win, he delivers and moves through

:37:14. > :37:20.to the final. We have had problems with the clock, so let's hope that

:37:21. > :37:25.time, 20.4 for, is pretty accurate. Danny has improved this year. I have

:37:26. > :37:30.watched him develop. His shoulders seem to be a little bit stronger.

:37:31. > :37:35.Which is only going to put him in a better position off the bend, when

:37:36. > :37:41.you need to generate power. It is how fast you move your arms, how

:37:42. > :37:45.quickly your legs will go. Not the other way around. Really important

:37:46. > :37:50.to get the good strength. Danny has the ability to maintain speed. Once

:37:51. > :37:56.he gets up to top speed, he can hang on in there. Looking around, he

:37:57. > :37:59.drifted down the home straight. Loving the conditions. Come the

:38:00. > :38:05.final, if it is like this, it is going to be impressive. A personal

:38:06. > :38:11.best from Reid. He looked inside and he could hear somebody, Talbot. A

:38:12. > :38:16.legal wind, a good run from Danny Talbot and a very good run from Leon

:38:17. > :38:21.Reid, taking three hundredths of a second off his personal best. In

:38:22. > :38:48.prime position for one of the fastest losers races. -- places.

:38:49. > :38:53.It's been fairly comfortable qualification... Reid really did

:38:54. > :38:59.push through. Gave Danny Talbot something to think about. A good

:39:00. > :39:01.personal best. Four fastest loser spots. Adam Gemili, the last of the

:39:02. > :39:11.big names, goes next in heat four. As they were a year ago. Luke Cutts

:39:12. > :39:43.in first, Jax Thoirs in second. Looking down the pole vault

:39:44. > :39:45.scorecard, they have both been given first, they both have a clean sheet

:39:46. > :39:58.up to 5.4. So we may have a jump off. Just the

:39:59. > :40:03.one attempt in a jump off. If they both go clear, it goes up. If they

:40:04. > :40:17.both bowl, it goes down, until we get a winner. -- if they both foul.

:40:18. > :40:29.Onto the final heat. The men's 200. Adam Gemili. It has been a difficult

:40:30. > :40:36.season, maybe frustrating is the word to use for him, at 100 and 200.

:40:37. > :40:41.He decided not to run the 100 metres yesterday. And he saw Reece Prescod

:40:42. > :40:45.and James Dasaolu book their place. CJ pulled up with cramp so didn't

:40:46. > :40:50.run the final. A bit of a dilemma. Do the selectors look to the fastest

:40:51. > :40:56.man so far this year, CJ Ujah, or Adam Gemili call?

:40:57. > :41:14.He needs to step up in terms of how he has been running this season.

:41:15. > :41:28.Elliott Powell has had a couple of those qualifications recently.

:41:29. > :41:38.Including the under 23 championships last week. Watch out for that.

:41:39. > :41:43.This man is based in Arkansas. All of his races so far this season have

:41:44. > :41:57.been in the US and he has run 20.65. There will be a big cheer for Adam

:41:58. > :42:09.Gemili. It would be a story if he did not

:42:10. > :42:26.make an individual run. Relay spots available.

:42:27. > :42:37.Is that Herne Hill, that rest? -- vest? He ran his personal best in

:42:38. > :42:42.the semifinal of the under 23s last week. Fifth in the final.

:42:43. > :42:50.Adam Gemili has seen the other guys, Hughes, Mitchell-Blake and Danny

:42:51. > :42:56.Talbot go through without any problems and actually look

:42:57. > :42:57.impressive. Danny had to keep his foot on the accelerator a little bit

:42:58. > :43:05.as Leon Read pushed him. Gemili has Ejiajuekwu outside. I

:43:06. > :43:13.wonder how he will go, in lane six? A decent start from Gemili.

:43:14. > :43:49.Ejiajuekwu really fast in lane six. Thumbs up, that is good. Just a

:43:50. > :43:53.little bit worried, call in. Looked a little bit tight. One of those

:43:54. > :43:58.races where if he grabbed something, I would not have been surprised. He

:43:59. > :44:03.was made to work hard. Ejiajuekwu got out well around the top bend, a

:44:04. > :44:11.20.65 man this year. He wasn't going to have it easy. Give us your

:44:12. > :44:16.analysis, Colin. Yeah, it was an interesting run by Adam. I expected

:44:17. > :44:20.him to do a bit more around the bend if I am honest. Perhaps stamp his

:44:21. > :44:24.authority. He had to work down the home straight. Even as he came

:44:25. > :44:28.through the line, watching his expression, he didn't seem really

:44:29. > :44:33.happy. We have seen him far more buoyant and bubbly. I'm not sure if

:44:34. > :44:37.he is carrying something. Maybe frustrating him. As you mentioned,

:44:38. > :44:43.it has been a frustrating year for him from the very beginning. This

:44:44. > :44:48.year, or all year, Steve, there is no hiding place in men's sprinting.

:44:49. > :44:52.No luxury that you are outstanding so you have to come to these

:44:53. > :44:56.championships, these trials, and you are going to have to perform. He

:44:57. > :45:01.will have seen his opponents and be thinking, it's going to be tough.

:45:02. > :45:05.But he has been here before, under 20 seconds, under ten seconds for

:45:06. > :45:11.the 100 metres. The only sprinter to do that, so let's hope he can lie on

:45:12. > :45:16.his ASICS be to pull him through. -- he can rely on his basics bead to

:45:17. > :45:20.pull him through. Let's hope there is more to come from Adam Gemili,

:45:21. > :45:25.because you feel he will have to step up.

:45:26. > :45:31.20.88 will be quick enough to go through as a fastest loser by my

:45:32. > :45:38.calculations. They are not always correct! But we will confirm it.

:45:39. > :45:47.I guess you could say going with form, those heats, the winners were

:45:48. > :45:52.the ones we had our eye on, Gemili, Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake, Danny

:45:53. > :46:01.Talbot, Zharnel Hughes. You can have a look at the form of these two and

:46:02. > :46:07.Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake, he does not race here very much, he looked

:46:08. > :46:11.like a man who is in confidence, easing up with 40 to go. That is

:46:12. > :46:15.right. We do not get to see these athletes racing in trials very

:46:16. > :46:20.often, we do not get to see them training often, so it is important

:46:21. > :46:24.we get to look at them, look at the silky smooth relaxed shoulders. You

:46:25. > :46:30.always look for the tension, if there is tension in the shoulders.

:46:31. > :46:34.Zharnel Hughes, effortless. Mitchell Blake again, holding his form, not

:46:35. > :46:38.working too hard. It is hard to criticise when you are not under

:46:39. > :46:43.pressure. Just lovely. Great to see these guys showing great early

:46:44. > :46:49.season form and they look great here. Final in two hours. Once they

:46:50. > :46:53.feel the race is won and they have secured the berth in the final and

:46:54. > :46:58.they felt confident to ease up. The next two were more competitive

:46:59. > :47:02.perhaps, Adam Gemili and Danny Talbot, pushing it more to the line,

:47:03. > :47:07.Gemili in particular, what did you make of his performance? A lot of

:47:08. > :47:10.answers in Adam's head after watching that raised. It did not

:47:11. > :47:15.look like the Adam we are used to seeing. We are used to seeing the

:47:16. > :47:20.strong bent and the transition on the curve was not there, fighting

:47:21. > :47:25.all the way. Is he carrying an injury, like Colin said? Has he been

:47:26. > :47:30.struggling? I have been looking at the wider field and his coaching

:47:31. > :47:34.group, he has moved to Holland, working with Rider, and I wonder if

:47:35. > :47:38.there is something in the training not quite right because another has

:47:39. > :47:44.not looked in silky smooth form this season so far. In contrast, Danny,

:47:45. > :47:49.very relaxed, yes, he has had to put his foot down, but I think he is in

:47:50. > :47:52.a confident place. Last year, he raced really well, great in the

:47:53. > :47:58.championships. I think he is carrying that confidence into his

:47:59. > :48:01.running. Adam, not social. Adam has moved to Holland, as you mentioned,

:48:02. > :48:07.new training group, he said he felt he had his whole sprinting knowledge

:48:08. > :48:11.broken down and started again almost and rebuilt and when you have done

:48:12. > :48:15.what he has done and achieved what he has achieved, two Olympic Games,

:48:16. > :48:20.it must be quite a big thing for an athlete to go through. You find that

:48:21. > :48:23.post-Olympics athletes need to think about what the next Olympics cycle

:48:24. > :48:29.will look like. Adam has learnt a lot and it is finding the happy

:48:30. > :48:33.medium, the balance. Taking on new training, I'm trying to compete, it

:48:34. > :48:40.might just not be there yet, but he has time. Next up, Denise, the

:48:41. > :48:47.women's steeplechase. The men's was yesterday and it was great. These

:48:48. > :48:49.two in first and second macro have qualified for the World

:48:50. > :48:56.Championships in London in August. They gave a great interview to fill,

:48:57. > :49:01.great characters, looking forward to seeing them in London. Let us get

:49:02. > :49:05.out there for the women and Andrew Cotter. Slightly different story in

:49:06. > :49:10.that Lennie Waite should win, in the absence of real competition. She has

:49:11. > :49:14.not quite got the qualifying standard yet for the world. Might be

:49:15. > :49:19.difficult for her to get it today. That is the line-up for the final of

:49:20. > :49:26.the women's 3000 metres steeplechase. Charlotte Taylor-Green

:49:27. > :49:36.has gone below ten minutes this season.

:49:37. > :49:43.Aimee Pratt, 19, gone below ten minutes. Lennie Waite had a good run

:49:44. > :49:48.last week in the European team Championships, dragged along to a

:49:49. > :49:58.big season's best time, but still outside the qualifying time, 9.42,

:49:59. > :50:01.it is. She ran 9.43 in Lille. Rosie Clarke who won last year, she picked

:50:02. > :50:10.up an injury. She has got the qualifying time. Personal best at

:50:11. > :50:14.Stanford in May, but then picked up an injury, so not here to defend the

:50:15. > :50:20.title. She beat Lennie Waite last year. Lennie Waite, spends a lot of

:50:21. > :50:23.time in the United States, when the university and then Houston in Texas

:50:24. > :50:27.and she has been based in the States for a while. Again, we have talked

:50:28. > :50:33.about this a lot, Paula, about the dearth of real talent in the women's

:50:34. > :50:39.steeplechase in the UK. There is a vacuum for someone to step into. I

:50:40. > :50:42.do wonder if sometimes when we are... Athletes are scared of

:50:43. > :50:48.running this event because it can be so hard on the body. Going over the

:50:49. > :50:55.barriers, it is much harder than running on the flat. It definitely

:50:56. > :50:59.is. That was the primary reason for an athlete making the move to 5000

:51:00. > :51:03.metres. She has been successful so I'm sure she has got no regrets. It

:51:04. > :51:07.was the fact she had a venue vulnerable foot injury caused by the

:51:08. > :51:12.water jump back in London Diamond League years ago and the knock-on

:51:13. > :51:15.repercussions meant she was not able to get her body strong enough to

:51:16. > :51:22.cope with the demands of steeplechasing and it is a special

:51:23. > :51:27.way you have to run the race, you cannot run the same way you would

:51:28. > :51:31.want us and the flat or 5000 metres. You have to save enough in your legs

:51:32. > :51:35.to run strongly over the final lap because you have to still clear the

:51:36. > :51:38.barriers. We would like to have seen Rosie Clarke here, she would have

:51:39. > :51:42.loved to being here. Disappointed not to be here to defend the title.

:51:43. > :51:46.It would've been a good race, they would have been able to drag a good

:51:47. > :51:49.time out of each other. This is going to be difficult for Lennie

:51:50. > :51:52.Waite. She should move a little bit clear and effectively be running on

:51:53. > :51:56.her own. I do not think the qualifying standard will happen

:51:57. > :52:05.today. No, I do not think so. I think she is capable of it, Lennie

:52:06. > :52:07.Waite. She struggled to get into a groove at the start of the season.

:52:08. > :52:10.Running a couple of steeplechases out of ten minutes and struggling to

:52:11. > :52:18.find form. She has a personal best of 9.35 and the way she ran in

:52:19. > :52:23.Lille, she ended up close to the qualifying time. Getting it today,

:52:24. > :52:26.in the wind and on her own, it is a different story. I think she will

:52:27. > :52:31.just concentrate on coming away with a victory today. Like you say, it

:52:32. > :52:35.would have been nice to see her race against Rosie Clarke, to have them

:52:36. > :52:38.work together. Rosie has taken a big step forward this year and it would

:52:39. > :52:42.have been nice to see them race together and push each other on

:52:43. > :52:48.towards the time. Charlotte Taylor-Green just sitting in a bad

:52:49. > :52:53.third-place, as we see Iona Lake coming through to push the pace a

:52:54. > :52:57.bit -- just sitting in a bad third-place. They want to improve

:52:58. > :53:01.their personal bests and race world today. Lennie Waite is sitting

:53:02. > :53:07.comfortably near the front at the moment. Iona Lake for company just

:53:08. > :53:13.now. Lennie Waite we suspect, just biding her time in this 3000 metres

:53:14. > :53:17.women's steeplechase. Pole vault, dead heat at the end of normal time.

:53:18. > :53:23.The pole vault equivalent of a penalty shoot out between Jax Thoirs

:53:24. > :53:31.and Luke Cutts. They have a ready started the next height of 5.45

:53:32. > :53:37.after both fouling up 5.5 zero. Jax Thoirs goes first. Not to be. He has

:53:38. > :53:43.opened the door for Luke Cutts. Jax Thoirs fouled at 5.50 in the first

:53:44. > :53:48.of the jump of heights. Shake of his head, he knows it is an opportunity

:53:49. > :53:52.for Luke Cutts to close the door and relegate him to second place.

:53:53. > :54:02.Sharing first place at the end of normal play, as I say, both cleared

:54:03. > :54:07.5.40, season's best for Jax Thoirs. Luke Cutts, he knows that after four

:54:08. > :54:12.consecutive fouls, we are in a jump of situation where if he goes clear,

:54:13. > :54:20.he wins. One attempt in a jump off, do or die for Luke Cutts. Jax Thoirs

:54:21. > :54:24.can only watch on and see the man who beat him last year at the

:54:25. > :54:34.British championships, world trials this year, 5:45... He gets it. It is

:54:35. > :54:41.a victory for Jack -- Luke Cutts. Successful defence again of his

:54:42. > :54:45.British title. Big puff of the cheeks, may be made hard work of

:54:46. > :54:51.that, he had been in check, jumped 5.50 a month ago in Switzerland.

:54:52. > :54:57.Maybe expected a little more today. He has done enough to win by the

:54:58. > :55:04.smallest of margins, a jump off was needed to separate Luke Cutts and

:55:05. > :55:10.Jax Thoirs and it is a win for the Commonwealth silver-medallist in

:55:11. > :55:23.2014 in Glasgow, Luke Cutts. He takes the victory. Confirmation,

:55:24. > :55:28.5.45 clearance. There is confirmation of the final standings

:55:29. > :55:35.in the men's pole vault. Thrilling finale. 5.45, the best, for Luke

:55:36. > :55:41.Cutts. Ahead of Jax Thoirs. In your absence, Iona Lake decided to take

:55:42. > :55:46.it on, opened up a five, six-metre gap at one stage, then Lennie Waite

:55:47. > :55:50.decided to wake up and they are running side-by-side just about now.

:55:51. > :55:56.Iona Lake has not run a steeplechase this season, she has a personal best

:55:57. > :56:01.in the field second quickest, but still only a modest 9.56 runner, she

:56:02. > :56:05.has only run over the flat this season. She has decided to stretch

:56:06. > :56:08.things out and stretch things that she has because the field now is

:56:09. > :56:14.sprinkled down the track and Lennie Waite again just a four, five-metre

:56:15. > :56:20.gap opens, she is keeping her honest. The trigger for that was

:56:21. > :56:23.going through the first 1000 metres in 3.18, the pace has definitely

:56:24. > :56:30.picked up now, the pace they would need to run the qualifying standard

:56:31. > :56:36.is 3.14 per kilometre. We will get an idea how much it has picked up

:56:37. > :56:40.through the two kilometre mark. Iona Lake is pushing on. This is the

:56:41. > :56:44.first steeplechase, as you say, and she is taking it to Lennie Waite

:56:45. > :56:48.think it's allowing her to open up the little gaps and closing it up

:56:49. > :56:52.again. Charlotte Taylor-Green and Katie Ingle behind, working hard to

:56:53. > :56:57.try to get back in, but at the moment, they are strung out, single

:56:58. > :56:59.file. Iona Lake looks pretty good at the moment but Lennie Waite

:57:00. > :57:06.beginning to close a little bit behind her again. A couple of laps

:57:07. > :57:12.to go in the qualifying -- and the qualifying time will be beyond them

:57:13. > :57:17.today. Lennie Waite... Anyone who finishes in the top two yew... Two

:57:18. > :57:23.laps to go, Charlotte Taylor-Green comes through, Lennie Waite

:57:24. > :57:37.struggling, perhaps it will not go to form. 700 metres to go, this is

:57:38. > :57:40.now her race. It looks like she is struggling, Lennie Waite, not

:57:41. > :57:44.clearing the barriers as well as she usually does. Iona Lake is gaining

:57:45. > :57:48.in confidence, she can feel the presence behind her. Much of the

:57:49. > :57:52.race is no longer there. She will not be able to see it is Charlotte

:57:53. > :57:59.Taylor-Green who is now in second place. She is closing the gap a

:58:00. > :58:03.little bit onto Iona Lake. Dreams of a World Championship for Lennie

:58:04. > :58:07.Waite in Rio de Janeiro last year are disappearing, she slips away,

:58:08. > :58:13.distant fourth place. Iona Lake looks strong. Through the water

:58:14. > :58:17.again, not too jarring a landing which can really knock you back if

:58:18. > :58:21.you get the water long. Distant possibility now for Lennie Waite. It

:58:22. > :58:28.is between Iona Lake and perhaps Charlotte Taylor-Green. Katie Ingle

:58:29. > :58:32.is there as well. The pain is kicking in. 3000 metres

:58:33. > :58:36.steeplechase, you can see it written on her face. The gap continues to

:58:37. > :58:42.grow. You can see the pain written on her face. She went to the front

:58:43. > :58:45.and she worked hard and she pushed the pace along, maybe she did not

:58:46. > :58:50.really believe she could win. Now she knows she can win this race and

:58:51. > :58:53.she has just got to keep everything working strongly and in control over

:58:54. > :58:58.the barriers over the final 300 metres. Charlotte Taylor-Green, she

:58:59. > :59:04.is looking strong. So too Katie Ingle behind. Iona Lake beginning to

:59:05. > :59:11.toil at bit, the gap is closing slightly. Katie Ingle just in touch.

:59:12. > :59:16.It will not be Lennie Waite's race. She slipped away, fourth place

:59:17. > :59:20.behind Iona Lake and Charlotte Taylor-Green and Katie Ingle. The

:59:21. > :59:25.she believes she can have the title, Iona Lake? The gap remains eight,

:59:26. > :59:30.ten metres. I think she might have it. Still barriers to negotiate, a

:59:31. > :59:34.water jump to negotiate, and Iona Lake, for the final time, through

:59:35. > :59:42.the water, and cries of the top bend. Iona Lake digs into. She has

:59:43. > :59:49.the lead and it is a lead she can afford to have a little look around.

:59:50. > :59:53.The barrier for the last time. Over it safely. Charlotte Taylor-Green

:59:54. > :59:58.will not get there, she will get second. What a win this is for Iona

:59:59. > :00:03.Lake. She has not run a steeplechase this season. She has the British

:00:04. > :00:08.title. Inside ten minutes. Qualified for the World Championships, that

:00:09. > :00:12.will be beyond her, that standard, 9.42, but she's the UK champion and

:00:13. > :00:18.Lennie Waite did not have it today. Very disappointing run from Lennie

:00:19. > :00:22.Waite who ran 9.43 in the European team Championships, but nothing like

:00:23. > :00:26.that form today. Looking at the way Lennie Waite has run, she has to be

:00:27. > :00:31.carrying an injury or something is going. Completely different athlete

:00:32. > :00:36.to the one we saw run so strongly in second place last week. Iona Lake

:00:37. > :00:41.went out and worked really hard for that victory. She pushed on the pace

:00:42. > :00:47.when no one was really willing to take it on and she dug deeper and

:00:48. > :00:48.deeper and she is British champion but also not too far off a personal

:00:49. > :00:55.best. For some it about qualifying for the

:00:56. > :00:59.World Championships here, for others this is the big deal here, winning

:01:00. > :01:05.the UK Championships. For Iona Lake, this is the moment it becomes the

:01:06. > :01:09.women's 3000 metres steeplechase champion. By the distance as well,

:01:10. > :01:19.just outside her personal best. Well done to Iona Lake. T was surely

:01:20. > :01:26.going to let her class tell. She was struggling. Iona Lake crossed the

:01:27. > :01:32.line to become UK champion. And the UK champion is now talking to fill.

:01:33. > :01:38.Tremendous rate. You weren't going to relinquish the lead once you took

:01:39. > :01:41.old. No, I didn't know what to expect coming into the race, I

:01:42. > :01:46.hadn't raised that much, coming back from injury. I felt really good. If

:01:47. > :01:50.they come with me, they do, I'll try to deal with that when it gets to

:01:51. > :01:55.it. Luckily I managed to keep the lead. When we see somebody of the

:01:56. > :01:58.calibre of Lennie Waite, trying to spare to her achievement, making

:01:59. > :02:04.global championship, this will give you the belief I suppose. I do lack

:02:05. > :02:08.belief sometimes so winning here today was huge. Almost PB. Coming

:02:09. > :02:09.back from injury I wasn't expecting that. Really happy. Well done,

:02:10. > :02:22.congratulations. We've got a nice little period here

:02:23. > :02:29.of middle distance. We've just seen the steeplechase final, 800 and 1500

:02:30. > :02:34.to come. We start with the men's 800, which is going to be a cracker.

:02:35. > :02:41.Really looking forward to that. In a couple of minutes time.

:02:42. > :02:47.Far into the stadium, as we looked down from that previous camera

:02:48. > :02:51.angle. The men's high jump around one of the main contenders, this

:02:52. > :03:01.man, Chris Baker, European bronze-medallist last year. Opened

:03:02. > :03:09.up with 2.12. The bar is now at 2.16. Solid. As we would have

:03:10. > :03:20.expected. Chris Baker, 2.36 indoors early last year. 2.27 is his best

:03:21. > :03:23.this year. Robbie grab ours is yet to come in.

:03:24. > :03:34.A good start for Chris Baker. Fully loaded field, this. David Smith.

:03:35. > :03:41.The reigning Scottish indoor champion also goes clear. Smith is

:03:42. > :03:52.involved, Chris Baker. Looking forward to this, James

:03:53. > :04:08.Bowness, Jamie Webb. Only one who didn't make it true you

:04:09. > :04:13.might have expected was Michael Rimmer. He said overnight he hasn't

:04:14. > :04:18.been too well. Really thought he might have at least given the guys

:04:19. > :04:26.something to think about still. John Bird is coached by Rob Denmark.

:04:27. > :04:36.It's going to be about the three big names here. How great it is to see

:04:37. > :04:39.Andrew Osagie back. We're going to London to the World Championships.

:04:40. > :04:44.It was there in 2012 he made the Olympic final and acquitted himself

:04:45. > :04:48.brilliantly. He had so many injury problems over the last four or five

:04:49. > :04:52.years. He has the qualifying time. Guy Learmonth knows what it's like

:04:53. > :04:57.to run in front of a home crowd. Did well at the Commonwealth Games in

:04:58. > :04:59.Glasgow 2014. This young man, Daniel Rowden, having a great season. Won

:05:00. > :05:09.the under 23 championships. Not too far of the qualifying time.

:05:10. > :05:13.Still eluding Kyle Langford. He already seems to have so much

:05:14. > :05:18.experience for one so young, he's still 21. He's missed the qualifying

:05:19. > :05:27.time by 100th of a second. Elliott Giles, same story. Reigning

:05:28. > :05:34.champion. Massive, massive talent. He looks so good in the heats. You

:05:35. > :05:38.have to say, he made Osagie pedestrian in the home straight in

:05:39. > :05:42.the heats last night. Jamie Webb has done well to get through here. One

:05:43. > :05:51.of our top 800 metres runners. On the inside is Bowness. Last week

:05:52. > :05:54.when Williams had to fall out of the four by four they want to James

:05:55. > :06:03.Bowness to step in and do it, but he wasn't available. Sam Miller got the

:06:04. > :06:08.task of bringing the bat on home. -- the animal home.

:06:09. > :06:16.Care the men's 800-metre final. Qualifying time 1:45.9 one. I'm

:06:17. > :06:20.intrigued to know what tactics will be deployed, who will take this out.

:06:21. > :06:25.Giles and Langford will want to sit and kick. Osagie would not want to

:06:26. > :06:30.lead. They wonder who is going to take this on. There isn't a natural

:06:31. > :06:34.frontrunner in there. Jamie Webb moves to the front but he's not

:06:35. > :06:39.really looking to be there or to do anything with it at this point. You

:06:40. > :06:43.can see Elliott Giles raises his arm to make sure he's got enough space

:06:44. > :06:48.to be able to keep himself out of trouble. They are just queueing up

:06:49. > :06:53.behind, waiting to see whose nerve breaks first, who is going to make

:06:54. > :06:57.the move first. The experience has to be with Andrew Osagie. It's great

:06:58. > :07:01.to see him back racing and racing so well after the long struggles he's

:07:02. > :07:07.had. Took a little elbow from Kyle Langford. He wanted to make sure he

:07:08. > :07:11.didn't get squeezed by Andrew Osagie and Elliott Giles. Langford in the

:07:12. > :07:14.perfect position. Pretty slow through 400 metres, very slow for

:07:15. > :07:21.these guys. Langford has a great kick. Osagie at his best used to

:07:22. > :07:24.have a great kick. Would he be better at harder pace? Giles is

:07:25. > :07:30.anxious, wants out and he knows he's in a bad place. Webb holding onto

:07:31. > :07:36.the inside. Osagie lacking pace to go with the guys. Lee a month

:07:37. > :07:40.pushing through. Kyle Langford in the lead, Elliott Giles on his

:07:41. > :07:46.shoulder, Guy Learmonth in third place. Osagie with a lot of work to

:07:47. > :07:55.do. London has struck early. -- Langdon. Elliott Giles is going to

:07:56. > :08:01.win this. It's going to be Guy Learmonth takes second place. Well,

:08:02. > :08:07.well, well, Daniel Rowden almost a third. I think Kyle Langford might

:08:08. > :08:11.have held on for it. Elliott Giles, playing right into his hands, this

:08:12. > :08:17.lad has pace to burn. Wasn't in a good position, he didn't panic,

:08:18. > :08:22.though. He was in bad position down the back straight. He didn't panic.

:08:23. > :08:27.He waited for the gaps to come. Then was strong. He let Langford take out

:08:28. > :08:32.the first run, then he had the ability to change up after that.

:08:33. > :08:36.Langford couldn't last it out. What a run from Lear month, gives himself

:08:37. > :08:42.an opportunity of finishing top two. Guy Learmonth gives himself time to

:08:43. > :08:46.get the qualifying time. Elliott Giles didn't panic. He also let Kyle

:08:47. > :08:52.Langford do a lot of the leading into the winds down the back

:08:53. > :08:57.straight. It took a little bit too much out of him. You can see the

:08:58. > :09:01.anxious look on Kyle Langford. He's trained with Elliott Giles he knows

:09:02. > :09:04.the shape easing, he will have watched him race yesterday so well

:09:05. > :09:09.in the heats. That pace once he turned it on, he was the only one

:09:10. > :09:13.moving away down the home straight. Guy Learmonth wasn't closing on

:09:14. > :09:16.Elliott Giles in any way. He was reeling in Kyle Langford and

:09:17. > :09:21.battling hard to get the second place and buy some time to run the

:09:22. > :09:24.qualifying time. Andrew Osagie didn't look as good as he's looked

:09:25. > :09:29.so far this year. Hopefully he knows what he's got to do now to get back

:09:30. > :09:35.into the shape he was earlier this year. Good performance from Elliott

:09:36. > :09:41.Giles comedies put a lot of hard work in. He was out of step with the

:09:42. > :09:44.group. Had a fume problems a month or two back. He's got it all

:09:45. > :09:47.together, I'm sure he's going to be delighted.

:09:48. > :09:52.Steve Cram just saying a couple of months back, a couple of problems.

:09:53. > :10:03.They are in the past, look at the form you are in now. We turned up on

:10:04. > :10:08.the day we needed to, so all good. It's quite surreal, but incredible

:10:09. > :10:12.to sort of get the win again. Last year was such like a big sort of

:10:13. > :10:18.emotional roller-coaster. This year is hard work. I don't think this

:10:19. > :10:21.year is based on luck, it's based on pure hard work. It's incredible.

:10:22. > :10:26.Last year was a big breakthrough, now it expected of you. I don't know

:10:27. > :10:32.if it is expected in a field like that, Osagie, Kyle, these are

:10:33. > :10:41.guys... It's all about the chance, that's where it counts. Well done.

:10:42. > :10:47.Elliott winning, a very good performance from him. It's a bit

:10:48. > :10:52.interesting. Osagie has the qualifying time. Elliott Giles

:10:53. > :10:58.doesn't. Kyle Langford not coming in the top two. The only man I can can

:10:59. > :11:04.come away with that... The top two will come away really happy with

:11:05. > :11:08.that, I think. It's the women's 1500 metres next up on the track. Laura

:11:09. > :11:17.Weightman will be the woman the rest of the field will be looking to

:11:18. > :11:21.beat. No Laura Muir here today. Bastia she won the Diamond League.

:11:22. > :11:27.Paula Radcliffe over there in the commentary box. Your thoughts on

:11:28. > :11:31.Laurette missing a couple of weeks of training. She is feeling much

:11:32. > :11:36.better. Still talk coming out of her camp she is intent on doubling up in

:11:37. > :11:40.London, which seems like a brave, bold, but quite a good decision when

:11:41. > :11:44.she was at the peak fitness. If you miss that much training, is it a

:11:45. > :11:48.decision you think might come under scrutiny? The best people to make

:11:49. > :11:52.that decision are Laura and Andy, the only ones who really know how

:11:53. > :11:56.much training she is missed, how significant the injury has been, and

:11:57. > :12:00.the shape she is in, now she's back in training. We'll get an indication

:12:01. > :12:08.when she races over 800 metres in the week. And a little bit more at

:12:09. > :12:12.the anniversary games. They are the ones making that decision based on

:12:13. > :12:18.the shape she's in. The London schedule would lend itself to do the

:12:19. > :12:21.15 and five. It is a huge ask to go through those heats and perform. It

:12:22. > :12:26.can catch an athlete out having to go through the heats, navigate them

:12:27. > :12:29.without losing any of your stamina, your speed, going through those

:12:30. > :12:33.rounds to get into good shape into the finals. Just the mental effect

:12:34. > :12:38.of having to work hard and keep working hard to those heats, then

:12:39. > :12:42.get ready for the next one. She showed she was well capable of doing

:12:43. > :12:45.that indoors. It is a different story at the World Championships,

:12:46. > :12:51.but she does have the main event first. Let's get back down on the

:12:52. > :12:55.track. Laura Muir is qualified as she is the Diamond League winner in

:12:56. > :12:59.the 1500 metres. On the track, many women who would like to be up there

:13:00. > :13:02.with her. In London. On the start line.

:13:03. > :13:05.Andrew Cotter can talk you through the field.

:13:06. > :13:12.Five women in the line-up of the qualifying time for the worlds.

:13:13. > :13:20.McDonald, Jessica Judd, Melissa Courtney. The first two here will

:13:21. > :13:24.qualify for the championships. Sarah McDonald is one of those who could

:13:25. > :13:28.qualify. The selectors might pick another to make it four in this

:13:29. > :13:35.event in London. It's a strong field, one of the strongest events

:13:36. > :13:40.of this championship, Sarah McDonald... Varies Hannah England.

:13:41. > :13:45.She has achieved great things in her career, silver-medallist in 2011.

:13:46. > :13:49.She might struggle to keep pace with others in better form here.

:13:50. > :13:56.Rhianwedd Price. Laura Weightman has the red name, she is the favourite

:13:57. > :14:01.here. An time she is clear of the rest, she has, in her career, gone

:14:02. > :14:04.close to four minutes. Jessica Judd is one of those who could certainly

:14:05. > :14:12.challenge her. There is a whole host of athletes, maybe four or five, who

:14:13. > :14:21.run 4.06 in this field. Stephie Pennycook. Amelia Quirk. Katie

:14:22. > :14:30.Snowden is running well. Jemma Reekie represent Kilmartin.

:14:31. > :14:40.Jessica Judd, you can see the tall figure... She says she prefers the

:14:41. > :14:45.1500 metres, as an 800-metre runner she had all that talented running in

:14:46. > :14:49.2014, she ran great times. She lost love for athletics, felt

:14:50. > :14:54.disappointed and dejected, came back to it, went to Loughborough, moved

:14:55. > :14:58.to 1500, says she prefers the variety of it, but she tends to get

:14:59. > :15:01.to the front, to control the race. Having just watched a race where

:15:02. > :15:06.there was no natural frontrunner, now there is. That is the way Jess

:15:07. > :15:10.runs, and the way she likes to run. She has the qualifying time for the

:15:11. > :15:14.5000 metres as well, so to have that range, having started out her career

:15:15. > :15:17.so promisingly over 800 metres, then to move up and struggle for a little

:15:18. > :15:22.bit, as she settled into university as well. Also with the pressure she

:15:23. > :15:25.was putting on herself. Now she's running freely she's enjoying her

:15:26. > :15:30.running again and has the qualifying time over 1500 and 5000 metres. She

:15:31. > :15:35.is technically still entered for the 5000 later, so if she wants to make

:15:36. > :15:38.the top two here it would be a big ask. Laura Weightman sitting in a

:15:39. > :15:41.good position. When you know how Jessica Judd is going to run, you

:15:42. > :15:45.know you've got somebody who sits on the shoulder, and use them as a good

:15:46. > :15:50.pacemaker. Pretty bunched that at the moment.

:15:51. > :15:57.They are all bunched up and queueing up behind Jessica Judd, who is not

:15:58. > :16:01.leading it out at a pace doing any damage to the rest of the field, and

:16:02. > :16:05.it's a high-calibre field, at the head of which sits Laura Weightman,

:16:06. > :16:12.who is controlling the race. She is in the perfect position to be able

:16:13. > :16:17.to react. Sarah Mcdonald has herself in a position to be able to move

:16:18. > :16:22.around. At the back of the field, young Amelia Quirk ran very well to

:16:23. > :16:25.qualify for the final, only 17. Sarah Mcdonald is on the outside.

:16:26. > :16:32.With this case, Melissa Courtney also in a good position. McDonald is

:16:33. > :16:36.in behind Melissa Courtney, and she does have a good kick. Will be quite

:16:37. > :16:43.suited to McDonald, because she likes a fast finish. Moving up into

:16:44. > :16:47.fifth, easing past, avoiding a little clip, but still Jessica Judd,

:16:48. > :16:53.the long black hair flying, so familiar on the track. Laura

:16:54. > :16:56.Weightman sitting on her shoulder. Compressing again. Jessica Judd is

:16:57. > :17:02.out in front, but it's no great pace. Looking at her feet, making

:17:03. > :17:06.sure that Courtney is checking her feet on the heels of Laura

:17:07. > :17:10.Weightman. Laura Weightman is poised, ready to make a move.

:17:11. > :17:15.Jessica Judd is working hard and she is saving enough to be able to react

:17:16. > :17:20.when the challenges come, and she knows they will. Behind her, Melissa

:17:21. > :17:23.Courtney, Katie Snowden, Laura MacDonald -- Sarah Mcdonald all with

:17:24. > :17:27.a qualifying time, but there is danger from Charlene Thomas further

:17:28. > :17:32.back. This is pretty much the expect we expected to see at this stage. --

:17:33. > :17:37.pretty much the order we expected to see. A bit of a gap to Laura

:17:38. > :17:47.Weightman now. Sarah Mcdonald is there as well. As they hit the bell,

:17:48. > :17:49.Jessica Judd has the lead. 3.03 at the bell, Laura Weightman, she moves

:17:50. > :17:54.at a little bit but she hasn't really kicked yet. Jessica Judd has

:17:55. > :17:58.raised the pace a little bit. A bit of daylight opening up back to

:17:59. > :18:03.Melissa Courtney, as Sarah Mcdonald moves past her. It's a race for the

:18:04. > :18:06.top two to make the World Championships. Jessica Judd trying

:18:07. > :18:10.to hold off Laura Weightman. She is in such good form, and she just

:18:11. > :18:14.cruises past her in the back straight. Jessica Judd has no

:18:15. > :18:18.response. There are still some who might challenge Jessica Judd for

:18:19. > :18:22.second. Sarah Mcdonald has a quick finish and she is closing in, the

:18:23. > :18:29.smaller finger, -- smaller figure, an Jessica Judd. It is hurting now,

:18:30. > :18:33.and Jessica Judd is still there. Laura Weightman still with work to

:18:34. > :18:37.do. Sarah Mcdonald trying to find something. Jessica Judd hasn't gone

:18:38. > :18:43.away. The gap is not quite closing it up for Jessica Judd. It's going

:18:44. > :18:46.to be victory for Laura Weightman, UK champion, leading to the

:18:47. > :18:52.championships, arms aloft. Jessica Judd takes second, also going to

:18:53. > :18:56.London, and Sarah Mcdonald in third. All of the work was done by Jessica

:18:57. > :18:58.Judd and she might have fallen out of love with athletics, but she

:18:59. > :19:05.loves it again now. The relief of fitting in the top two for Jessica

:19:06. > :19:10.Judd. -- getting in the top two. A great rest, ready much going as we

:19:11. > :19:16.expected. Jessica Judd is doing all of the work and Laura Weightman had

:19:17. > :19:21.too much final lap. Laura Weightman had a bit left, but she knew she was

:19:22. > :19:25.working hard and running up against a rejuvenated Jessica Judd, and

:19:26. > :19:31.lovely to see. She had a qualifying time of 5000, and that was for the

:19:32. > :19:36.student games, and she has accepted for the under 23 championships as

:19:37. > :19:40.well. Now she has decisions to make, Jessica Judd, because I think she's

:19:41. > :19:43.run above her own expectations to make the World Championships team

:19:44. > :19:46.for London and put herself back where she was a few years ago. Laura

:19:47. > :19:52.Weightman taking every box she needed. She had a few little issues

:19:53. > :19:56.coming into this race that she needed to iron out and make sure

:19:57. > :20:02.that she was taking all of the boxes and achieving her selection. Laura,

:20:03. > :20:08.by virtue of diamonds league champion from last year, it means we

:20:09. > :20:11.can take four runners in the 1500, so Sarah Mcdonald with a qualifying

:20:12. > :20:17.time. Katie Snowden ran well down the home straight but couldn't get

:20:18. > :20:26.into the top group. Laura Weightman takes on the victory in the women's

:20:27. > :20:30.1500 metres. Andrew Cotter talking on commentary

:20:31. > :20:33.that there could be four representing Great Britain in

:20:34. > :20:37.London, which is fantastic. You came out on top and got your place. Well

:20:38. > :20:43.done. The race was really important for me. I had confidence and belief

:20:44. > :20:50.in myself and I've still got it in the lakes. I'm so happy. Laura did

:20:51. > :20:55.us a favour in winning the diamonds league, so with that strength and

:20:56. > :20:57.depth, we can really showcase it. What better place than the World

:20:58. > :21:03.Championships. I know you admire the way that Jessica won that race. A

:21:04. > :21:07.bit overcome. You've made the team again. It's been a road back for you

:21:08. > :21:18.but you've done it. It's been so hard. My dad has been fantastic.

:21:19. > :21:21.Nick Dakin, everyone has just been so supportive, my family and you

:21:22. > :21:26.know, they put up with me at my worst. Honestly, I can't believe it.

:21:27. > :21:31.Having missed out on London 2012, my dad was like, if you can get to the

:21:32. > :21:39.World Championships, that in name. We never thought we'd do it. -- that

:21:40. > :21:44.is and aim. I'm so excited. We are both excited. It's amazing. Thanks

:21:45. > :21:49.to everybody for making sure that I didn't give up and kept going.

:21:50. > :21:54.That's a great story. You've done so well. We'll see you in London. Thank

:21:55. > :21:58.you. Laura Weightman with the victory,

:21:59. > :22:09.and she and Jessica Judd are on that team for London, along with Sarah

:22:10. > :22:10.Mcdonald. A personal best for Jeremy -- Jemma Reekie and Harriet

:22:11. > :22:26.Knowles-Jones as well. I'm just going to take a second

:22:27. > :22:29.while we wait for the men's race. Well done to Jessica Judd. I'm

:22:30. > :22:32.pleased that Laura got through, but that's a cracking story. When

:22:33. > :22:39.everybody knows what you are going to do, everybody knew Jessica Judd

:22:40. > :22:45.was going to the front. To execute that way was superb. It was going do

:22:46. > :22:52.it here? Charlie Grice, Chris O'Hare, Josh Kerr and the number one

:22:53. > :22:55.man, Jake Wightman. A great race in prospect. We just saw a

:22:56. > :23:01.straightforward way of running a 1500 metres, where Jess Judd, the

:23:02. > :23:03.front runner, a natural front runner, she ran out and was rewarded

:23:04. > :23:09.with a place. No natural front runners here. Charlie Grice, who has

:23:10. > :23:16.won this on more than one occasion, will be hoping his kick will bring

:23:17. > :23:21.him home. The likes of Chris O'Hare, I was watching him in LA in Mayer,

:23:22. > :23:27.running particularly well, a personal best, 3.30 four. In great

:23:28. > :23:33.shape. -- LA in Mayer. Jake Wightman, another Scot. Winning in

:23:34. > :23:36.Oslo in the diamonds league, in the form of his life. The only other man

:23:37. > :23:48.with an 800 metres, find time as well,. Tom Marshall has been in top

:23:49. > :23:53.form as well, the best that Wales has got on show here today. It's not

:23:54. > :24:00.all about the Scots. The men's 1500 metres final. Four main contenders

:24:01. > :24:04.but, as ever, tactics will be so important. The qualifying time for

:24:05. > :24:11.those four, Josh Kerr did it in the NCAA championships, scraping inside

:24:12. > :24:15.by 100th of a second, but will Hughes bring it aside the sacred

:24:16. > :24:31.spring a surprise? -- will he spring a surprise? What do you think,

:24:32. > :24:34.Paula? When you said there was no natural front runner, I think Robbie

:24:35. > :24:38.Fitzgibbon yesterday was very much a natural front runner, and I think he

:24:39. > :24:46.ran hard in that heat to make sure he got into that final, because that

:24:47. > :24:50.is where he wanted to be, alongside his training partner, Charlie Grice.

:24:51. > :24:53.I think it's a waiting game now behind the big two at the front.

:24:54. > :24:57.Jake Wightman taking a huge step up but he isn't doing much with his

:24:58. > :25:02.place right now. He knows he has the pace to react to anything around

:25:03. > :25:07.him. Charlie thinks he does. Josh Kerr waving his arms around, making

:25:08. > :25:11.sure he doesn't get too boxed in, but he is badly boxed at the moment.

:25:12. > :25:16.He runs a bit taller and bigger than the other runners, so he is easy to

:25:17. > :25:21.pick out. Very experienced at tactical races. He is only young but

:25:22. > :25:26.he has raced a lot in the state and finished well. Josh on the inside,

:25:27. > :25:32.Chris O'Hare just tucked in, where he likes to be, in his Edinburgh

:25:33. > :25:40.vest. Charlie Grice knows the danger and doesn't want to get himself

:25:41. > :25:43.boxed in. Jake is decided, a 65, 66 first lap, happily running at the

:25:44. > :25:50.front but not going to lead it. Robbie Fitzgibbon, coming to the

:25:51. > :25:53.front, pushes everybody up. Look at these reluctant leaders, four

:25:54. > :25:58.abreast. Tom Marshall looking across at everybody. Josh Kerr in a bad

:25:59. > :26:01.place. The third lap, where the nerves start to jangle, where you

:26:02. > :26:06.don't want to be in a bad position coming round the belt. Now that

:26:07. > :26:11.Charlie Wightman -- Jake Wightman is there, you can't give it up. As they

:26:12. > :26:15.attack round the outside, he has to stay there, and he can't give it up.

:26:16. > :26:20.Otherwise he would be in a possible position to come background. Robbie

:26:21. > :26:26.Fitzgibbon is doing Jake Wightman and Charlie Grice a favour. By

:26:27. > :26:29.running so wide, he's making Chris O'Hare and James West have two

:26:30. > :26:39.though really white. Not every one of these guys think they can beat

:26:40. > :26:43.everybody in a 400 race. Jake Wightman has to be careful. If

:26:44. > :26:47.somebody really goes hard, now that Chris O'Hare has got himself out,

:26:48. > :26:50.Josh Kerr in a bad position. They are five abreast down the home

:26:51. > :27:00.straight. Tom Marshall down the outside. Jake will want to hold off

:27:01. > :27:02.Charlie Grice. Josh Kerr... What Jake Wightman did last week,

:27:03. > :27:09.allowing Charlie Grice to take the lead, but quickly on his shoulder,

:27:10. > :27:12.then Chris O'Hare and Josh Kerr. Charlie was very quick, how he cut

:27:13. > :27:18.in front, and I don't think Jake was happy. The three of them, with Josh

:27:19. > :27:25.Kerr, Charlie Grice losing ground. Josh Kerr looking forward, but Jake

:27:26. > :27:27.Wightman fighting him. All of a sudden the race is on at the front.

:27:28. > :27:36.Charlie Grice overstepping on the curb. Look at Chris O'Hare! Away in

:27:37. > :27:42.front. It's a Scottish one, two, three at the British championships.

:27:43. > :27:49.Chris O'Hare will be the champion. Who will be second? It's going to be

:27:50. > :27:51.Josh Kerr. Chris O'Hare wins the title, goes to the World

:27:52. > :27:59.Championships for the ill be joined by the Scottish challenger, Josh

:28:00. > :28:03.Kerr. -- he goes to the World Championships and he'll be joined.

:28:04. > :28:07.It was a typical 1500 metres tactical race. I think that Jake

:28:08. > :28:10.will want to go away and look at where he lost ground to Chris

:28:11. > :28:16.O'Hare, but well done, Chris. Tommy, Chris does this a lot. He knows how

:28:17. > :28:25.to sit away and be patient and when to kick. Charlie perhaps will feel

:28:26. > :28:30.the most disappointed. Start with Josh Kerr. Two people will walk away

:28:31. > :28:36.happy with how they ran, and it will be Josh Kerr and Chris O'Hare.

:28:37. > :28:40.Looking at Josh, he is still so young, but he didn't panic. He was

:28:41. > :28:45.in a bad position for a lot of the race, boxed in, and he had to get

:28:46. > :28:50.himself out of trouble. Jake Wightman gave him a good shove back,

:28:51. > :28:54.losing him momentum with 120 metres to go, but he was fighting hard and

:28:55. > :28:56.he wasn't giving up on second. You can see Jake Wightman a bit

:28:57. > :29:04.frustrated. Chris O'Hare moving away. Josh Kerr is fighting hard. He

:29:05. > :29:07.knows it Charlie Grice is behind him and maybe doesn't know at this point

:29:08. > :29:13.he is going backwards behind and he was fighting for second. At the

:29:14. > :29:18.line, he just wanted it a bit more and Jake Wightman. At 26, can you

:29:19. > :29:23.call Chris O'Hare the old man of the field? Is the wise man. He has

:29:24. > :29:28.raised so many times in championships, but a lot of times

:29:29. > :29:32.he's got it right. Today, he launched his attack at the right

:29:33. > :29:37.time and he is a deserving champion. I was on about the race when he

:29:38. > :29:42.raced Mo Farah, and he kicked too early that night and he got a PB and

:29:43. > :29:47.he was rewarded with that, but that was perfectly timed, 38.6, the last

:29:48. > :29:51.300. He had legs and others didn't. A Scottish one, two, three to

:29:52. > :29:58.celebrate and I'm sure that Chris will be delighted. Chris, talking

:29:59. > :30:05.about a one, two, three for Scotland, and you say for Edinburgh.

:30:06. > :30:10.Yes. It's amazing. We have all had a time this year, and it's one thing

:30:11. > :30:18.hitting the time in fast races, but come here and perform, it's tough. I

:30:19. > :30:23.spent most of my warm up on the therapy bed. My hamstring was

:30:24. > :30:29.playing up. I had to make sure I came out and forgot about it and got

:30:30. > :30:30.to the line first. A tremendous performance, and this guy came

:30:31. > :30:41.charging home-buying. This is all new volume. -- charging home behind.

:30:42. > :30:45.This is all new for you. I have had some hard races in America and I had

:30:46. > :30:50.to take some days off to be ready for this. It's a great feeling to

:30:51. > :30:53.continually be in the top places. Doing it with three Edinburgh guys

:30:54. > :30:58.sandwiching me is making it all the better. You are the pride of

:30:59. > :31:04.Scotland today. And let's not forget Jake. Absolutely, brilliant. catch

:31:05. > :31:11.up with some more field events from yesterday. Epstein zapped with Phil

:31:12. > :31:23.-- let's do that with Phil. Williams was just short of the

:31:24. > :31:26.qualifying distance the next month's World Championships. Nathan Fox who

:31:27. > :31:33.jumped the qualifying mark earlier in the season booked his spot thanks

:31:34. > :31:39.to his second-place finish. In the women's event no one could better

:31:40. > :31:43.the first jump from this teenager. The Manchester University student

:31:44. > :31:49.took home a personal best of 16 metres 34 and the British title. Job

:31:50. > :31:57.done to Dale won the men's javelin with a season best throw of 70

:31:58. > :32:06.metres 58. He'll be delighted with his first domestic crown. Scott

:32:07. > :32:10.Lincoln, a builder by trade, became British champion for the third time

:32:11. > :32:17.in shock but with a throw of 70 metres 82. -- 17. It was tight at

:32:18. > :32:24.the top of the men's discus. Nick Percy managed to defend his British

:32:25. > :32:30.title with a throw of 60 metres 78. Women's hammer wasn't so closely

:32:31. > :32:34.contested, then Sophie Hitchen is an Olympic bronze-medallist. In a class

:32:35. > :32:35.all of her own. Her domestic dominance continued with a modest

:32:36. > :32:52.winning throw of 67 metres 58. Great field events action yesterday.

:32:53. > :32:58.Robbie Grabarz, one of the most decorated British athletes come

:32:59. > :33:03.under pressure. 2.20. He goes clear. Put himself in an awkward situation

:33:04. > :33:09.there. He did compete in Paris last night, he travelled the short flight

:33:10. > :33:16.back from Paris this morning. 2.24 he jumped last night. It was all at

:33:17. > :33:28.his opening height of 2.20. He's in fourth place at the moment. His days

:33:29. > :33:31.involved. To the final of the women's 400 metres, this is how they

:33:32. > :33:50.line up. Perri The youngest in the final, Cheriece

:33:51. > :33:56.Hylton. Shannon Hylton her sister ran very well in the 200. Cheriece

:33:57. > :34:07.Hylton has a new personal best this season. Amy Allcock from Aldershot,

:34:08. > :34:12.Farnham district. She goes in lane seven. There will be a big role for

:34:13. > :34:21.Perri Shakes-Drayton. Wasn't quite expecting what she did yesterday in

:34:22. > :34:26.the heats. . She's had hard times since her injury in the final of the

:34:27. > :34:33.400 hurdles in Beijing, but looked good in the heats. Zoey Clark, the

:34:34. > :34:39.quickest in the UK this year over 400. Just a fraction ahead of the

:34:40. > :34:43.woman inside her in lane four, Emily Diamond. This might be a very

:34:44. > :34:54.competitive, close race. We seen a few who have been easy to pick out

:34:55. > :35:02.the winner. This one, not so. Kersten now injury free and running

:35:03. > :35:10.well. The most experienced in the inner two lanes. Margaret Adeoye is

:35:11. > :35:16.a little bit of 52 seconds this season. That is a theme for Anyika

:35:17. > :35:22.Onuora as well. One of the very few to go below 51 seconds. She's been

:35:23. > :35:25.struggling of late. She didn't look too good at the European team

:35:26. > :35:32.Championships. What can she do from lane one?

:35:33. > :35:37.Perri Shakes-Drayton went out so fast over the first 200 metres

:35:38. > :35:50.yesterday and was hanging on. She goes in six. Diamond and Clark and

:35:51. > :35:55.Anyika Onuora have the qualifying standard. The final of the women's

:35:56. > :36:10.400 metres. It's fairly even at the moment,

:36:11. > :36:18.though Adeoye making ground on the inside. Strong around the outside

:36:19. > :36:23.from Cheriece Hylton. Anyika Onuora starting strongly in lane one. A

:36:24. > :36:29.long way to make up. She's running well. She hasn't run too well of

:36:30. > :36:32.late. She put herself in a good position here. Perri Shakes-Drayton

:36:33. > :36:37.as well, lack of training, lack of racing perhaps. She is in a good

:36:38. > :36:42.position. It's Cheriece Hylton leading them into the home straight.

:36:43. > :36:47.Anyika Onuora... Through the middle. Zoey Clark with that strength, Emily

:36:48. > :36:50.Diamond, the faster finishes. It's between these two, Zoey Clark

:36:51. > :36:55.looking to take it. Right on the line, she gets it, just, from Emily

:36:56. > :37:00.Diamond. Those to take the treasured spot in the World Championships. The

:37:01. > :37:04.champion herself here is Zoey Clark. Classic example of how to run 400

:37:05. > :37:16.metres, just measuring it, judging it, having the fastest finished.

:37:17. > :37:23.They didn't panic when they saw Anyika Onuora and Hylton starting

:37:24. > :37:29.off so strongly. We can be pleased nobody took themselves out, really

:37:30. > :37:38.too fast. All of them ran a very balanced race up to their potential.

:37:39. > :37:44.I just think the inside, as you said, Anyika is probably got the

:37:45. > :37:49.most basic natural speed of all the runners. She used it very well at

:37:50. > :37:55.the beginning. She's still kind of measured. Not way up. She's really

:37:56. > :37:59.judge the race. It's her fitness she is lacking. Two centre named as we

:38:00. > :38:04.expected. We knew it was going to be tight. They accelerated so well, so

:38:05. > :38:09.smoothly you didn't even notice. Perri Shakes-Drayton is struggling

:38:10. > :38:14.for four. Don't worry, she's going to be healthy again, she'll be back.

:38:15. > :38:18.One more win to behind her and I think we'll see a very different

:38:19. > :38:25.Perri Shakes-Drayton come next season. Great race between those two

:38:26. > :38:28.winning in lane five and four. An all Scottish victory, I'm getting

:38:29. > :38:33.jingoistic about it. That power on the stretch, just taking it ahead of

:38:34. > :38:37.Emily Diamond and Zoe Clark. The new 400 metres champion is talking to

:38:38. > :38:43.Phil. The Scottish athletes are certainly shining today. He burst

:38:44. > :38:47.onto the scene recently, people at home will be getting used your name,

:38:48. > :38:51.we'll see you a lot more now, at London at the World Championships,

:38:52. > :38:56.what does it mean to you? It's such an important competition for me. It

:38:57. > :39:01.was potentially the most important competition, I've secured by space

:39:02. > :39:05.for the World Championships. This is really important, the competition,

:39:06. > :39:11.glad to get the win. You are in the box and know the quality of the

:39:12. > :39:14.field, where does that come from to deliver that performance? It's quite

:39:15. > :39:18.good to have such a good level of competition because it was a really

:39:19. > :39:22.close final. You know you will have someone there in the home straight

:39:23. > :39:26.pushing, so you'll have to push at the end. It's good to have that.

:39:27. > :39:28.Well done today, see you London, congratulations. Thanks so much,

:39:29. > :39:39.goodbye. Zoey Clark winning the women's 400

:39:40. > :39:45.and judging it so well. Scottish athletics is on the rise at the

:39:46. > :39:50.moment. Emily Diamond just pipped on the line. Widnes just fading towards

:39:51. > :39:55.the end. Perri Shakes-Drayton down in sixth place. -- Anyika Onuora

:39:56. > :40:05.just fading towards the end. Robbie Grabarz's last attempt, 2.20

:40:06. > :40:10.six. He gets it. That's more like it. Look fairly lacklustre in his

:40:11. > :40:17.first two attempts. He shakes his head. He knows he's capable of more.

:40:18. > :40:21.Fourth in the Olympics last year. He jumped the same height as the

:40:22. > :40:26.bronze-medallist. The only medal not in his collection is a World

:40:27. > :40:30.Championship medal. He's a month away from challenging for that.

:40:31. > :40:35.You'll need more than this, though. Third time clearance of 2.20 six.

:40:36. > :40:44.The next height... 2.33 on the board. He goes into first place.

:40:45. > :40:52.Coming up shortly is the women's long jump competition. An area that

:40:53. > :40:57.has real strength and depth in the last seasonal two. The heptathlete

:40:58. > :41:02.have always been quite competitive. Katarina Johnson-Thompson, Jessica

:41:03. > :41:07.Ennis-Hill. Her next to me. Longer competing. Now we have these three

:41:08. > :41:22.have been competing on the world stage. Jazmin Sawyers, who's been

:41:23. > :41:28.doing well. One of the athlete had a minor traffic accident yesterday, we

:41:29. > :41:32.wish her a speedy recovery. Is it one of those things, you get those

:41:33. > :41:41.periods where there is a rich depth of talent in a certain event? We

:41:42. > :41:45.perceive it as a rich depth of talent, but Dubai has a tough

:41:46. > :41:50.qualifier. Proctor has it, but from last year. The same with Jazmin

:41:51. > :41:55.Sawyers. They still need to find the qualifying distance. It's nice it is

:41:56. > :41:58.tight and competitive, nice that the girls are making that representation

:41:59. > :42:02.and making it through to Championships. They still have

:42:03. > :42:05.dropped their game. Same in the men's sprint, you have depth of

:42:06. > :42:08.talent, have we got somebody who can break through and make finals and

:42:09. > :42:17.win medals? We are close but not quite there. We saw Ugen do well in

:42:18. > :42:22.the European indoors. The girls know how to raise their game. They tend

:42:23. > :42:27.to do it at Championships. It's a formality but it's tough,

:42:28. > :42:31.competitive. Jazmin is the one looking to find form this season.

:42:32. > :42:38.Back out on the track. It's the men's 400-metre final. The local

:42:39. > :42:39.man, Hudson Smith, a real crowd pleaser. Steve Cram will take you

:42:40. > :42:47.through this final. It would be a popular victory were

:42:48. > :42:52.he to win. He is the favourite. He's got some interesting new 400-metre

:42:53. > :42:56.talent. I didn't use the word young because Dwayne Callan has thrown

:42:57. > :43:03.himself into the mix. 32 years old running brilliantly. Getting to

:43:04. > :43:15.grips with this event. Matthew Hudson Smith. With George Caddick,

:43:16. > :43:23.American -based. Mark picked up an injury. He was ready to race. He's

:43:24. > :43:30.been doing some box work. Still really trying to get into the sort

:43:31. > :43:39.of form that will at least put him in the relay squad. This man is

:43:40. > :43:45.coached by James Hillier, his brother is a 400-metre hurdling

:43:46. > :43:51.talent. From Guernsey. A lot of experience, you expect him to

:43:52. > :43:56.perform well on days like today. Then Dwayne Callan. What a

:43:57. > :44:02.performance from him at the European team Championships last week. It

:44:03. > :44:08.means he has now got the qualifying time, as has Matthew Hatton Smith.

:44:09. > :44:17.Totti finish for those men will put them in the team. Kalann is 32 years

:44:18. > :44:31.of age, -- Clyde Hart is looking after that six

:44:32. > :44:35.foot four talent. Theo Campbell is one of our good youngsters, went to

:44:36. > :44:43.the world relay earlier in the year as part of that relay team. On the

:44:44. > :44:52.inside, Jamal Rowden Stevens from the Shaftesbury club, under 47

:44:53. > :44:56.seconds. -- Rhoden-Stevens. The qualifying time is 45.5 zero. You

:44:57. > :45:04.have to also adding that although three men, Caddick, Hudson-Smith and

:45:05. > :45:08.Cowan have that time, Martin Rooney as European champion is considered

:45:09. > :45:13.also to be eligible, were he to finish in the top two. There are

:45:14. > :45:14.four men, if they finish in the top two, will get automatic selection.

:45:15. > :45:30.The men's 400 metres... That went off before the gun. So it

:45:31. > :45:35.was a false start from the start. Yeah, we've had a bit of a problem

:45:36. > :45:40.with that. They are all gathering round now. How many does it take to

:45:41. > :45:45.sort this out? I have a feeling this might be a little while to stop I

:45:46. > :45:55.don't think we going to see a receipt this time. He is waiting

:45:56. > :46:01.patiently. What that little bit of paper says, technical fault,

:46:02. > :46:08.something like that. Bail or having a look at it. How much can a piece

:46:09. > :46:13.of paper tell you? -- they are all having a look at it. It's only

:46:14. > :46:30.small. You'll never get that through the boss, no. Too much. Did you hear

:46:31. > :46:37.that? I didn't quite hear that. The Beeb went off before the gun, so

:46:38. > :46:40.either he was leaving his blocks, it didn't look like that, but it seemed

:46:41. > :46:47.that way to the naked eye. To green card. But it was only shown to

:46:48. > :46:52.Matthew Hudson-Smith you only have to show green card to the home

:46:53. > :47:02.field. There are degrees in this now. The men's 400 metres final, and

:47:03. > :47:05.Matthew Hudson-Smith settling down. George Caddick inside him, and then

:47:06. > :47:11.Dwayne Cowan, and Martyn Rooney in lane eight. This time, away safely.

:47:12. > :47:18.Rabah Yousif Bkheit nicely smartly out of the blocks, and five men on

:47:19. > :47:20.the outside moving away from George Caddick in lane three, Larsson

:47:21. > :47:27.started as quickly. Dwayne Cowan going well and Cameron Chalmers has

:47:28. > :47:32.already gone past Martyn Rooney. He hasn't got speed through the first

:47:33. > :47:36.200. Matthew Hudson-Smith in a good position. Cameron Chalmers is

:47:37. > :47:40.leading. As this bend unfurls, Matthew Hudson-Smith will be right

:47:41. > :47:45.there. George Caddick is miles behind. Rooney is coming back. Look

:47:46. > :47:50.at Matthew Hudson-Smith, a really dominant performance from the local

:47:51. > :47:54.man. Rabah Yousif Bkheit coming in in second, and Martyn Rooney

:47:55. > :47:58.finishing quickly. Matthew Hudson-Smith, with Rabah Yousif

:47:59. > :48:03.Bkheit in second. 45.02, that's more like it. He has been coming into

:48:04. > :48:07.some good form. He had to pull out of the Scott -- of the stock:

:48:08. > :48:12.Diamond League with a back problem, but a solid heat yesterday, and a

:48:13. > :48:18.dominant run yesterday. -- the stock: Diamond League. The time for

:48:19. > :48:23.Rabah Yousif Bkheit, for me, will be outside the qualifying time. The

:48:24. > :48:29.three who had a chance, have they got in the top two? That slipped by.

:48:30. > :48:32.No doubt about the winner. He is the only one guaranteed his place. That

:48:33. > :48:39.was a right royal battle behind Matthew Hudson-Smith. Once he had

:48:40. > :48:45.hit at 300 metres mark, he looked so majestic. I took my eye off him,

:48:46. > :48:48.because I'd presumed he was going to take the title. But behind, what a

:48:49. > :48:56.scrap. It changed most probably in the home straight about three times

:48:57. > :49:02.between Martyn Rooney, Rabah Yousif Bkheit and Dwayne Cowan. Look at how

:49:03. > :49:07.it is. Look at Martyn Rooney. He seems to be out of the race

:49:08. > :49:10.completely. Dwayne Cowan, it seems like he is going to edge it. Rabah

:49:11. > :49:24.Yousif Bkheit is down there to get second. Who has got third? Wow, wow!

:49:25. > :49:28.Dwayne Cowan throws himself over the line, but I think it's between

:49:29. > :49:33.Rooney and Cameron Chalmers. That angle favours the nearest one, and

:49:34. > :49:37.Rooney throws his arm out, pushing your torso forward. He's not silly.

:49:38. > :49:43.I think what that means is that Rooney will be in the relay squad.

:49:44. > :49:48.Charmers is picked for the under 23s, and I was talking to James

:49:49. > :49:51.Hillier yesterday and he said that is his main target and, unless he

:49:52. > :49:56.qualifies automatically, I think that's what they would target, but

:49:57. > :50:01.it would be great for him to be in the relay squad. Sitting around with

:50:02. > :50:04.the team, getting the whole team experience, going around and sitting

:50:05. > :50:08.with some of the best athletes of all time, who will be in the

:50:09. > :50:13.village. It will be great experience for him, but what a race. The 400

:50:14. > :50:18.metres never lets you down for excitement. Look at Matthew

:50:19. > :50:26.Hudson-Smith's time, under 45 seconds, 44.90 nine. I hope he's

:50:27. > :50:32.smiling. Matt is always smiling, win or lose. But you did it in style. I

:50:33. > :50:37.wanted to execute and get qualification to London and go from

:50:38. > :50:41.there. There is so much strength in this event in Britain these days, so

:50:42. > :50:46.to come through the British trials is one thing, but it must elevate

:50:47. > :50:50.you to think, on a world stage, the kind of performances you can put in

:50:51. > :50:54.and times in the 44s, so you can challenge there as well. I've been

:50:55. > :51:05.doing this eventful two years. Trying to do what the guys like the

:51:06. > :51:09.record holder, Euan, what they do. A quick word from Rabah Yousif Bkheit,

:51:10. > :51:14.you made it as well. You always seem to deliver the goods when it

:51:15. > :51:20.matters. For me, I'm trying to come here and make the team. I've been

:51:21. > :51:25.struggling with injuries for the last year, and earlier this year.

:51:26. > :51:30.But I'm getting back in shape. All I have to do is go and do the time,

:51:31. > :51:38.which I'm more than capable of. I hope you do that thing. New in

:51:39. > :51:42.Essex, I'm so sorry. It's been a crazy season for me. -- new Hama in

:51:43. > :51:53.Essex. But promise I will come and do a match for you. That will please

:51:54. > :51:57.everybody in Newham in Essex. He ran a great time. Not quite the

:51:58. > :52:03.qualifying time he wanted, but almost a season's best. Matthew

:52:04. > :52:07.Hudson-Smith, very good indeed. Cameron Chalmers held off Dwayne

:52:08. > :52:13.Cowan, who threw himself over the line. It's always favours us looking

:52:14. > :52:20.from this site, but certainly those five men... George Caddick didn't

:52:21. > :52:29.perform. Lots to sort out in the individual and relay selections in

:52:30. > :52:43.the next two or three weeks. Another Newham

:52:44. > :52:50.athlete is Robbie Grabarz. That was a world-class height. It was too

:52:51. > :52:57.much for him today. The time clearance of 2.26, and a victory for

:52:58. > :53:01.Robbie Grabarz ahead of the World Championships. Trying to find some

:53:02. > :53:11.form and some confidence. He is in good shape. Big smiles from him.

:53:12. > :53:16.Onto the women's 800 metres final, and another cracking race. Ellie

:53:17. > :53:21.Baker, Hannah Segrave made it through as the fastest loser,

:53:22. > :53:26.Alexandra Bell, Lynsey Sharp, Mhairi Hendry. Marilyn Okoro is back to

:53:27. > :53:33.contest the British championships as well. She only knows one way to run

:53:34. > :53:37.and she did it in the heats yesterday, she went out hard and got

:53:38. > :53:43.herself into the finals is fastest loser. It is great to see her back,

:53:44. > :53:51.running 2.2 this year. The qualifying is 2.1. A personal best

:53:52. > :53:56.for Mhairi Hendry in the rounds. Lynsey Sharp getting better with

:53:57. > :54:05.every race, looking good. She'll be competing in the Diamond League in

:54:06. > :54:09.Lausanne on Thursday. Here, she takes on the women trying to make

:54:10. > :54:12.the place in the team. Shelayna Oskan-Clarke had an injury scare in

:54:13. > :54:16.the last couple of months, but she looks as though she was certainly

:54:17. > :54:22.not going to be too far away in the heats. Adelle Tracey, having a great

:54:23. > :54:29.season. PB at 800 and 1500 metres. She wants to cement her place. Can

:54:30. > :54:30.Alexandra Bell get back to her great form from last year and put herself

:54:31. > :54:45.in the mix? American -based Hannah Segrave, 2.2,

:54:46. > :54:52.personal best this year. She almost missed the start yesterday when the

:54:53. > :55:00.gun went. And Ellie Baker. She will hope to run well after having seen

:55:01. > :55:03.Kyle Langford, her boyfriend, not going so well in the mains 800. --

:55:04. > :55:19.in the men's 800. She missed it again! Yes, she maybe

:55:20. > :55:24.needs to practice. Away we go. She was in lane two, got off to a slow

:55:25. > :55:30.start, at the start, Lynsey Sharp and Adelle Tracey, Shelayna

:55:31. > :55:33.Oskan-Clarke. Laura Muir is it as well but she won't be contesting

:55:34. > :55:39.this event at the championships. Not superfast. Lindsay is where she'll

:55:40. > :55:43.want to be, sitting on the shoulder of whoever is leading it. And

:55:44. > :55:50.Marilyn Okoro, she wants to get up there. Adelle Tracey sitting on the

:55:51. > :55:53.curb. Adelle Tracey not in the best position, tucked on the curb in

:55:54. > :55:58.third or fourth. I think they were probably expecting Marilyn to go to

:55:59. > :56:02.the front and take it a bit harder. That leaves Shelayna Oskan-Clarke

:56:03. > :56:05.and Lynsey Sharp is the number one and two this season, controlling it

:56:06. > :56:13.from the front. It again going to be a question of whose nerve holds the

:56:14. > :56:20.best. 61.8 through 400 metres. Adelle Tracey edges her way out.

:56:21. > :56:22.Shelayna Oskan-Clarke had an incredible pedigree in

:56:23. > :56:25.championships, either the British championships or the world and

:56:26. > :56:35.Olympic games. She finds her best on the day. Marilyn Okoro is going

:56:36. > :56:39.well. Who will come out on top? You'd favour Lynsey Sharp in this

:56:40. > :56:46.kind of race, but Shelayna Oskan-Clarke is strong. Does she

:56:47. > :56:51.have the place in her legs? Alexandra Bell and Marilyn Okoro

:56:52. > :56:53.trying to get back involved. Shelayna Oskan-Clarke under pressure

:56:54. > :56:57.from Lindsay Clark. Adelle Tracey gritting her teeth. These three are

:56:58. > :57:02.moving away from the rest of the field. Look at Shelayna

:57:03. > :57:05.Oskan-Clarke, and Adelle Tracey trying to get there. Lynsey Sharp

:57:06. > :57:12.fighting to get past her. Hats off to Shelayna Oskan-Clarke, once again

:57:13. > :57:15.proving to be unbeatable, and Adelle Tracey may have just sneaked in to

:57:16. > :57:23.take second, the second guaranteed is blocked -- guaranteed spot. Three

:57:24. > :57:27.into two doesn't go, and the one person you'd think would have been

:57:28. > :57:32.the favourite looked as though she hasn't made it. All smiles from

:57:33. > :57:36.Adelle Tracey. Congratulations to her. So impressed with Shelayna

:57:37. > :57:39.Oskan-Clarke, controlling it and having the confidence and, as ever,

:57:40. > :57:43.the competitive grip to drive it through at the end. Lynsey Sharp

:57:44. > :57:49.will be disappointed, to say the least. When it comes to selection,

:57:50. > :57:56.we don't think of the selectors, but they are our three best 800 metres

:57:57. > :58:02.runners, and I'm pretty sure that Lynsey Sharp will find herself on

:58:03. > :58:07.the team. You'd expect to see that. Both of the 800 metres races here

:58:08. > :58:10.today have been messy races. They have given a few headaches, but this

:58:11. > :58:14.should be more straightforward, because the top three runners

:58:15. > :58:19.finished in the top three positions. Lynsey Sharp made some tactical

:58:20. > :58:22.errors, I think, underestimating Shelayna Oskan-Clarke, who always

:58:23. > :58:25.rises to the occasion and gets it right. She might have had some

:58:26. > :58:30.niggles coming in today, but she judged it and controlled it

:58:31. > :58:34.perfectly. Hats off to Adelle Tracey, who fought hard down the

:58:35. > :58:39.home straight and didn't sit back. She just snatched second, I think,

:58:40. > :58:43.on the line in front of Lynsey Sharp, who comes into it as the

:58:44. > :58:45.fastest British athlete this year and, I think, should get the nod to

:58:46. > :58:50.go to the London World Championships. But she has posed

:58:51. > :58:54.herself some questions. She has struggled a bit in racing this year,

:58:55. > :59:02.racing best in a mixed race where she hasn't had to think about where

:59:03. > :59:08.she places herself. A great win for Shelayna Oskan-Clarke once again.

:59:09. > :59:11.She does it so consistently. Adelle Tracey, by 100th of a second, is

:59:12. > :59:20.guaranteed her place in the team for London. Both thrilled to make the

:59:21. > :59:25.team with a guaranteed place by one 100th of a second, in your case,

:59:26. > :59:32.Adelle, and in a dominant way for you. I wasn't sure how the race

:59:33. > :59:35.would be run. I had a few feelings of how it would go. I had to be

:59:36. > :59:43.ready for whatever it was going to go. It had a sprint finish. It was

:59:44. > :59:49.going faster, I had to hang on and get a spring finish. It didn't go

:59:50. > :59:54.out too fast, but it's best to be in a good position. I held my position

:59:55. > :59:58.all the way through. I know I'm quite strong at the end. And I won!

:59:59. > :00:05.I want to come and confirm my spot, but really I wanted to retain my

:00:06. > :00:11.title as well, so I'm happy. Congratulations. Adelle, you look

:00:12. > :00:16.happy. I had a few issues in the summer, and it's awesome to be here,

:00:17. > :00:21.in the final, and to get automatic selection. So really happy. Can you

:00:22. > :00:26.imagine what it will be like in London with the home crowd? I can't

:00:27. > :00:30.think about it now! To be back in that stadium and being able to

:00:31. > :00:32.perform there, the home games, it will be really fun. Well done to the

:00:33. > :00:42.pair of you. Plenty of action still to come in

:00:43. > :00:50.the last hour here at Birmingham. Next it's the men's 110 metre

:00:51. > :00:57.hurdles final. Hoping to seal a World Championships but in the

:00:58. > :01:02.women's 200 metres, Twell. Of course, the men's 200 metres, a

:01:03. > :01:15.world-class field battling for spots in London this summer.

:01:16. > :01:22.It was a fantastic race, we've seen some great races. Sometimes the

:01:23. > :01:26.quality hasn't been the highest but that was very very good indeed. The

:01:27. > :01:35.free you would expect to go to the World Championships and the two

:01:36. > :01:41.guaranteed our Shelayna Oskan-Clarke and Adelle TRacey taking it by 31

:01:42. > :01:46.hundredths of a second from the next closest.

:01:47. > :01:57.The women's long jump is underway. This is the UK indoor record-holder,

:01:58. > :02:04.Ugen. Third in the world indoors last year. Fast on the approach,

:02:05. > :02:15.it's the board well. Always a tense time for the athletes, the opening

:02:16. > :02:19.jumps. That have a look at this. Technical fault? A little bit of

:02:20. > :02:23.thinking, a very long step onto the board, doesn't carry as much speed

:02:24. > :02:27.off. The way she generates speed, has a very rocky style on the

:02:28. > :02:32.runway. I think it's a good opening jump, she's going to get by more and

:02:33. > :02:38.she can build from there. Good conditions, as we saw in the men's

:02:39. > :02:44.long jump. Lorraine goes into the lead with 6.5 two. Jazmin Sawyers

:02:45. > :02:50.round two, fouled in the first round. She hits the board really

:02:51. > :02:57.well. Similar kind of distance. What are your thoughts, Tony? Just a

:02:58. > :03:01.slight foul on that. Seems to chop a little bit, then lengthens on the

:03:02. > :03:07.last stride. Hasn't got enough room really to operate and jump off the

:03:08. > :03:12.board. There we go. Just goes a little long, leaves her toes hanging

:03:13. > :03:16.out. Got to be about five centimetres. If she tidies that up,

:03:17. > :03:20.put her foot back underneath, stands up on the board till her hips are

:03:21. > :03:24.beneath her foot. She needs a jump in the third round to get through,

:03:25. > :03:31.otherwise she won't get another three. The barriers are out for the

:03:32. > :03:51.final of the men's 110 metres hurdles. There is no David Feeney.

:03:52. > :04:01.There is the Harrow athlete, Perera, 20 years old, yet to go below 14

:04:02. > :04:07.seconds. 14.09 this season. Quite an open race, this, again. Jake Porter

:04:08. > :04:21.might have a chance. Bronze-medallist at the indoor

:04:22. > :04:27.Championships. Khai Riley-La Borde. Powerful figure, 13.59, new personal

:04:28. > :04:34.best this season. It might come down to a battle between the two men

:04:35. > :04:40.outside him, David King in lane six. 13.48 his new PB this year. And

:04:41. > :04:48.David Omoregie has run 13.34 this year. He has run in the 13.20s. He's

:04:49. > :04:59.got that basic speed. Between the barriers. James Weaver still just

:05:00. > :05:05.19, down to 13.37 this year. Another Birchfield Harrier makes up the

:05:06. > :05:12.line-up in lane now, Edirin Okoro. Much has been made of the absence of

:05:13. > :05:16.Andrew, who asked the powers that be if he might be excused to run in

:05:17. > :05:21.Paris in the Diamond League. He did and he ran very well. He justified

:05:22. > :05:25.the decision. 13.14 to go third in the UK all-time list behind Tony

:05:26. > :05:32.Jarrett and the big man sitting beside me. 13.1 four. Not Steve

:05:33. > :05:41.Matley, Colin, it's you we're talking about.

:05:42. > :05:52.King and Omoregie perhaps the favourite here to challenge for the

:05:53. > :06:00.UK title. Final of the men's 110 metres hurdles. Cleanly away, a good

:06:01. > :06:05.start. He's in trouble, Omoregie, King now. David King is clear, he's

:06:06. > :06:11.going to take this title, he becomes the champion. 13.5 five. Hands to

:06:12. > :06:14.the head and the heavens for David Omoregie because he lost that in the

:06:15. > :06:22.opening couple of barriers. It all went wrong. David King, it's not his

:06:23. > :06:29.concern use the champion. He's going to the World Championships. He is

:06:30. > :06:33.the UK champion. As soon as Omoregie stumbled and stuttered and fell

:06:34. > :06:37.away, it was his race to lose. He retained his composure and his

:06:38. > :06:43.technique. Omoregie, what might have been. Yes, I was watching David. He

:06:44. > :06:48.seemed to be labouring in the blocks. I was very anxious whether

:06:49. > :06:55.he would put himself through. He was the one who kept the cool head.

:06:56. > :07:01.Watch this, at the gun. He smashed that first barrier, didn't he? Held

:07:02. > :07:05.back going into verbal two, ended up rolling all over the place. The high

:07:06. > :07:14.hurdles are unforgiving. Make a mistake, very difficult to claw any

:07:15. > :07:20.ground quickly. Look at this angle. Worked hard. Ended up sailing over

:07:21. > :07:23.the second hurdle. When you go over about an inch and a half higher than

:07:24. > :07:28.normal, what happens, you just collapse, your body isn't used to

:07:29. > :07:31.hitting the ground and being able to move on. That is exactly what

:07:32. > :07:36.happened to David. Lost all his pace. Have a look from here.

:07:37. > :07:44.Look what happens here. Second to left. Catches the first hurdle,

:07:45. > :07:49.pitches him into the next one. See how high he goes? Then he collapses,

:07:50. > :07:53.takes his speed away. Everybody else is smooth and silky, pulls away

:07:54. > :08:01.instantly. There is no room for you to get back into the race. It was a

:08:02. > :08:05.good battle between Jake Porter and Khai Riley-La Borde for second.

:08:06. > :08:08.Eventually it was Khai Riley-La Borde who took it. David King again

:08:09. > :08:13.just clipping that barrier but was pretty impressive hurdling from

:08:14. > :08:16.David King. He takes the title, he's heading to the World Championships,

:08:17. > :08:21.he's the UK champion. He's talking to Phil Jones. We saw the replay on

:08:22. > :08:24.the big screen of you crossing the line, sweet moment for you.

:08:25. > :08:32.Absolutely amazing, I'm over the moon. To qualify for the world

:08:33. > :08:36.champs in London feels so, so good. We're chatting about what you go

:08:37. > :08:40.through to get to this point, then have to deliver when you most need

:08:41. > :08:49.to. The satisfaction it must give you is incredible. A long process,

:08:50. > :08:54.it really is. Going so, so well. Over the moon for the play-off

:08:55. > :08:58.today. Any imagine what it will be like in London? I can't, but I will

:08:59. > :09:02.at the London anniversary games next week, I'm sure. See you at the World

:09:03. > :09:10.Championships, congratulations again. David King... He only just

:09:11. > :09:15.has the qualifying standard right on at 13.4 eight. He had back

:09:16. > :09:20.previously. He'll go into the Championships. Khai Riley-La Borde

:09:21. > :09:25.against second place. If you can find between now and the 9th of

:09:26. > :09:29.July, midnight... He has defined his personal best to earn his

:09:30. > :09:30.convocation. Second place for him, third for Jake Porter and down in

:09:31. > :09:37.fifth is Omoregie. You can look at the four men think

:09:38. > :09:40.you know how things will pan out, but the hurdles of any of the track

:09:41. > :09:45.events is the one that is fraught with potential mishaps, dangers and

:09:46. > :09:48.mistakes. It is from beginning to end. The hurdles and Steeplechase

:09:49. > :09:55.are the ones where, really, you've got to be on your a game before the

:09:56. > :10:01.gun fires. Omoregie will be in the lap of the gods of the selectors.

:10:02. > :10:07.Steve Cram has joined us. It's not called by the way, I don't know what

:10:08. > :10:12.you are on about. I promise you it was earlier, even Paula Radcliffe,

:10:13. > :10:21.who is hard as nails, was wearing a jacket. An impressive display from

:10:22. > :10:27.Andy Bouchard. Is moved up a level in the last two years. He came back

:10:28. > :10:31.in the 1500 metres. He said his coach wanted him to do a training

:10:32. > :10:38.session. I'd rather run in the 1500 heats. Middle of the race, Andy

:10:39. > :10:43.Burnham put in a good kilometre. This is a guy who has just decided,

:10:44. > :10:48.you know what, I can compete at world level, I've seen what Mo Farah

:10:49. > :10:52.can do, I can do that, he trained hard, works hard, focused. He's a

:10:53. > :10:56.great character, has a lot of self-confidence, that's what he

:10:57. > :11:00.brings to the track when he races. I saw him in Doha at the beginning of

:11:01. > :11:05.the season, against Kenyans and Ethiopians, not fazed, he get in

:11:06. > :11:08.there. How much confidence he got from that performance last summer in

:11:09. > :11:12.Rio has bled into his winter training, coming out here in summer,

:11:13. > :11:16.not having Mo Farah here, it's possible to put them side by side.

:11:17. > :11:21.When you are in the shadow of somebody like Mo Farah it's tough,

:11:22. > :11:24.but then you can find your mojo, work out how to navigate these big

:11:25. > :11:29.Championships. He can feel fairly confident going into the summer.

:11:30. > :11:33.Very confident, he talks about the turning point in the world Cross

:11:34. > :11:36.country when he realised what he needed to do, went away, trained

:11:37. > :11:41.hard and made the big breakthrough last year. His grew. It was being

:11:42. > :11:44.their training alongside the likes of Mo Farah. He works hard and his

:11:45. > :11:48.winning championships but there is not that much difference between

:11:49. > :11:52.what I'm doing and what he's doing, why can't I compete? He doesn't see

:11:53. > :11:56.any reason he shouldn't. It's reflected in how hard he trains and

:11:57. > :12:01.races. It's good to see him having fun with it and being that character

:12:02. > :12:04.he is. It helped him go to the major championships and get the best out

:12:05. > :12:08.of himself. He takes running seriously. He's a joy to hear in

:12:09. > :12:12.interviews because he loves athletics so much. The crowds love

:12:13. > :12:16.seeing Mo Farah. Is there an argument he might come here to run

:12:17. > :12:23.1500 metres, even five K. He could run ten K midweek. He made that plan

:12:24. > :12:27.a good few months ago. He made it clear. The British athletics agreed.

:12:28. > :12:31.Any athlete for whom British athletics agrees for you not to be

:12:32. > :12:36.here, won't come. Because they want to plan, someone like Mo wants to

:12:37. > :12:42.plan for the World Championships. The race on Tuesday night was good,

:12:43. > :12:46.I think he went out with real intent, really hard over the first

:12:47. > :12:50.5000. There was no one for him to race really in the second half, he

:12:51. > :12:54.ended up backing off the pace and just winning. I think he would have

:12:55. > :12:59.loved to go under 27 minutes, he didn't quite achieve that. He knows

:13:00. > :13:03.he's OK, he's where he needs to be. He's got some quick races coming up

:13:04. > :13:09.in London next week, he may go to Monaco and do 1500, he may not.

:13:10. > :13:12.Coming back to Andrew Butchart and Mo Farah, I look at the Kenyan and

:13:13. > :13:19.Ethiopian teams and don't see much threat. Some of the best canyons are

:13:20. > :13:27.running for America. -- some of the best Kenyans are running for

:13:28. > :13:31.America. Mo is on track, don't worry, he's good. People like Andrew

:13:32. > :13:36.Butchart in there with him, we can look forward to him. We'll see him

:13:37. > :13:39.next week. The women's 5000 metres next. I could get the thoughts of

:13:40. > :13:42.Paula or I could let her run to the commentary box and join Andrew

:13:43. > :13:48.Cotter, which will be a safer bet for you. Committed a macro I'm

:13:49. > :13:53.eternally grateful to you. I'm watching Paula, look at her go. No

:13:54. > :14:00.change of pace, moving away steadily over here. This is the line-up for

:14:01. > :14:05.the women's 5000 metres. Jessica Judd is a starter. She gave

:14:06. > :14:12.everything about 55 minutes ago in the women's 1500 metres to take

:14:13. > :14:18.second place. She goes here. A former champion in this event is

:14:19. > :14:23.also in there. Trying to count the number of starters. We a couple of

:14:24. > :14:29.dropouts. That is how they start. We'll shortly get Paula's thoughts

:14:30. > :14:37.on recovery time from 1500 metres which was no more than an hour ago,

:14:38. > :14:46.just under an hour ago it finished. Names to look out for Wilby McColgan

:14:47. > :14:49.and Twell. I'll commentate on Paula Radcliffe running below me, she

:14:50. > :14:54.doesn't know I'm commentating on her. We'll pretend it hasn't

:14:55. > :15:03.happened. Emelia Gorecka has had injury problems. She's gone close to

:15:04. > :15:11.15 minutes in her time. Jessica Judd, she is running on a sheer

:15:12. > :15:16.enjoyment and excitement now. What a great when it was in the 1500 metres

:15:17. > :15:20.for Jessica Judd. To take second place behind Laura Weightman. And

:15:21. > :15:23.earn her place in the World Championships in that event. There

:15:24. > :15:28.is McColgan, who has the qualifying standard. There are four Britons

:15:29. > :15:32.with the qualifying standard in this event, Laura Muir being one of them,

:15:33. > :15:40.Laura Weightman one of them, she ran a very good 5000 recently. And Steph

:15:41. > :15:45.Twell. Steph Twell and McColgan will be the ones to watch. You might say

:15:46. > :15:47.Jessica Judd because she is a potentially good 5,000-metre runner.

:15:48. > :15:52.Paula Radcliffe is here, we'll talk about how you recover from a hard

:15:53. > :15:53.1500 metres within 55 minutes to try to get ready for a 5000. You're

:15:54. > :16:03.shaking your head. She's just trying to say, I can do

:16:04. > :16:08.it the other way round and I can do it better. It's a little bit of a

:16:09. > :16:15.crazy decision, can we say? But we talked about the fact that Jess is

:16:16. > :16:20.re-found her enjoyment, and she is taking the pressure that she was

:16:21. > :16:23.putting on herself in racing, and she has taken it off herself and

:16:24. > :16:29.decided to go out and enjoy the way she is racing and what she gets from

:16:30. > :16:33.it. I think she feels she can get a bit quicker in 5000 metres. Whether

:16:34. > :16:38.the best way to do that is front running a 1500 metres run where she

:16:39. > :16:43.ran a very fast last 800 metres, which was very quick, and to come

:16:44. > :16:49.back in such a short time around -- turnaround, it asks a lot of mental

:16:50. > :16:54.questions of everybody in the field. I can see on the back of Eilish

:16:55. > :17:00.McColgan's leg that she has a bit of tape. She has struggled with a

:17:01. > :17:04.hamstring tear and she was wondering whether to come and race, but the

:17:05. > :17:08.decision was almost made by looking to see what Jessica Judd would do. I

:17:09. > :17:11.don't think Laura Weightman wants to double up at all. Laura Muir is

:17:12. > :17:16.talking about it. Stephanie Twell, front running that will find time in

:17:17. > :17:23.Watford and it well. Probably would have been the favourite if Eilish

:17:24. > :17:27.McColgan hadn't turned up. Katrina Wootton leading it out. She was

:17:28. > :17:32.quite close to the qualifying time of a 10,000 metres run in the

:17:33. > :17:37.trials, and it isn't that far away. I think Jessica Judd would love this

:17:38. > :17:41.to be a pedestrian race. Five from the back, a couple of places behind

:17:42. > :17:50.Eilish McColgan. The pace is being picked up my Katrina Wootton, and

:17:51. > :17:54.techniques ahead of Holly Rees. Those two looking to stretch it out,

:17:55. > :18:00.saying this is our race and we are looking for a time. At the back,

:18:01. > :18:03.Jessica Judd, it's a real stretch. Eilish McColgan, with that magnesium

:18:04. > :18:09.tape on her right leg, a right hamstring... Ideally, she wouldn't

:18:10. > :18:14.want to be racing here. She is likely to be selected anyway, but

:18:15. > :18:17.you can't take the risk. She hasn't been given assurances that others

:18:18. > :18:21.have been that she doesn't need to run, so she has to run. If Jessica

:18:22. > :18:26.Judd were running this having not run the 1500 metres, Stephanie Twell

:18:27. > :18:31.and Eilish McColgan would be going hell for leather, but you have to

:18:32. > :18:36.suspect that it's a tall order for Jessica Judd to run that hard 1500

:18:37. > :18:40.and come out and be competitive in this race. Steve Cram just walked

:18:41. > :18:45.past shaking his head, because he saw and congratulated her as she

:18:46. > :18:48.came off after the 1500 metres and you wasn't sure if she was going to

:18:49. > :18:53.come back, she was going to discuss it with her dad, and the next thing

:18:54. > :18:59.he sees she is out here running. It puts a lot on the body. The look on

:19:00. > :19:03.her face, she is trying just to stay focused, seeing what is happening in

:19:04. > :19:08.the race and commit as little energy as possible in the early stages.

:19:09. > :19:14.Just saying, why not, have some fun. She is enjoying her running again.

:19:15. > :19:20.Sitting in the middle of the pack, not far way from Eilish McColgan.

:19:21. > :19:30.Women's long jump, Lorraine Ugen leads with 6.50 two. A foul in the

:19:31. > :19:35.second round. Pretty much unthreatened. She was a good 20

:19:36. > :19:39.centimetres ahead of the rest of the field. Another jump around about the

:19:40. > :19:46.6.5 metres jump. She looks quite sharp. Just forward rotating into

:19:47. > :19:53.the pit. As she takes off, that's good. Her arms world around. That's

:19:54. > :19:59.difficult to say. They whirl around at the site. If she gets them up

:20:00. > :20:03.long above her head, she rotates and drops into the pit, so she misses

:20:04. > :20:10.out on quite a bit of distance. Lorraine Ugen, out in front with

:20:11. > :20:16.6.52 in the first round. UK record holder, 6.50 nine. It is a slight

:20:17. > :20:23.improvement at the halfway stage. Jazmin Sawyers, her home track. The

:20:24. > :20:28.reigning champion. Under some pressure with two files. Jazmin

:20:29. > :20:33.Sawyers looking down the rest of the competitors. She needs a jump in

:20:34. > :20:38.excess of six metres, or around six flat would get her into the top

:20:39. > :20:41.eight. A cut to get into the second half of the competition, and only

:20:42. > :20:49.eight athletes will have three more attempts. Jazmin Sawyers, an two

:20:50. > :20:54.fouls, need something. That was good off the board. A decent job, 6.5

:20:55. > :21:00.metres. She is looking back anxiously at the board. We haven't

:21:01. > :21:03.seen a red flag. She isn't celebrating yet. Tense moments for

:21:04. > :21:14.Jazmin Sawyers. It's a red flag, Tony. And three fouls. Let's look at

:21:15. > :21:19.that. That looks like the smallest foul. So small, about a centimetre.

:21:20. > :21:24.If I'm brutally honest, most of that distance came out at the back. She

:21:25. > :21:28.bounced out really strong and hard. Unfortunately, she stuck her foot

:21:29. > :21:32.out at the front, and this is really unfair. She only needed six metres,

:21:33. > :21:39.and that's a jump she can do day in, day out. Back to the final of the

:21:40. > :21:43.women's 5000 metres, and three of the main contenders have been

:21:44. > :21:50.running pretty much together. Eilish McColgan, Stephanie Twell and

:21:51. > :21:54.Jessica Judd trailing them. Jessica Judd running within an hour after

:21:55. > :22:00.her 1500 metres final, where she finished second. Out in front is

:22:01. > :22:07.Katrina Wootton of Coventry, a 15.30 one. She is trying to get close to

:22:08. > :22:10.her personal best. About seven places back, you can see the

:22:11. > :22:15.familiar bobbing hairstyle of Eilish McColgan, that long legged style.

:22:16. > :22:23.Behind her, Jessica Judd, and Stephanie Twell is between them.

:22:24. > :22:25.Though other three desperate they are the three likely contenders, or

:22:26. > :22:30.they would be if Jessica Judd were not so obviously tied. We wonder why

:22:31. > :22:36.she's doing it. She doesn't need to do that. -- were she not so

:22:37. > :22:43.obviously tired. I would think she would feel the pace in the race. It

:22:44. > :22:46.isn't a stunning pace, but it's starting to do a bit of damage to

:22:47. > :22:52.this field. A quick shout out for Emelia Gorecka as well, who is

:22:53. > :22:56.sitting there in the Great Britain kit and the sunglasses, with number

:22:57. > :23:00.13 on her hip. It's been a wrong road back from injury struggles for

:23:01. > :23:04.her, so it's good to see her back. She has been advised by Chris

:23:05. > :23:07.Thompson and Gemma Simpson in training, and she is starting to

:23:08. > :23:12.make inroads back to the form she was showing a couple of years ago.

:23:13. > :23:19.... A group of about 12 athletes, and Jessica Judd slip into the back

:23:20. > :23:21.of that group. Also near the back are Eilish McColgan and Stephanie

:23:22. > :23:28.Twell. No signs yet from Jessica Judd. Her style always looks a bit

:23:29. > :23:29.ragged. She's got great talent but she never looks entirely

:23:30. > :23:36.comfortable, so it's difficult to tell from her face. My goodness,

:23:37. > :23:39.this is hard work. Stephanie Twell and Eilish McColgan look more

:23:40. > :23:46.composed. But she still hanging in there. We remind you that, you know,

:23:47. > :23:50.the qualifying standard is held in this event by Laura Muir, who is

:23:51. > :23:55.going to double up on that topic, Neil back said that, with that

:23:56. > :24:00.injury, she had a 1% chance of doubling up successfully, but Laura

:24:01. > :24:05.Muir still insists she'll do it. Neil Black was quoted making those

:24:06. > :24:11.comments and, pretty much 24 hours later, Andy Jung had been speaking

:24:12. > :24:14.to journalists and reiterating that, yes, Laura Muir had a precautionary

:24:15. > :24:18.measure of missing a couple of weeks of training to make sure everything

:24:19. > :24:22.was 100% but she was back on the track, racing strongly. I don't

:24:23. > :24:26.think they were going to commit a something -- to something as

:24:27. > :24:34.ambitious as a double World Championships against the calibre of

:24:35. > :24:38.athletes lined up, the 1500 and then coming back in the 5000 metres. It's

:24:39. > :24:44.a big ask. If Laura Muir is not in her best shape, that is a big

:24:45. > :24:50.challenge to take on. I think they wouldn't be doing that if they were

:24:51. > :24:53.not 100% confident in her training. Katrina Wootton, 31-year-old from

:24:54. > :25:00.Coventry, is the front runner, setting a decent pace and just

:25:01. > :25:03.waiting behind Emelia Gorecka is Eilish McColgan and Stephanie Twell.

:25:04. > :25:10.Stephanie Twell is a well told story. But the qualifying standard

:25:11. > :25:14.with a run in Watford a couple of weeks ago, but she has had two

:25:15. > :25:21.distinct careers. She was such a talented junior. She had run 14.54

:25:22. > :25:26.for 5000 metres is a few after her 21st birthday in 2010, then she was

:25:27. > :25:31.running in Belgium and broke her ankle. It was a long way back from

:25:32. > :25:40.that. She is running very successfully again. Still just ahead

:25:41. > :25:45.of Eilish McColgan. Jessica Judd hanging in, running on empty, but

:25:46. > :25:51.still running pretty well. With a word to Stephanie Twell, what she

:25:52. > :25:55.lost was efficiency in her foot, with the amount of metalwork and

:25:56. > :26:04.reconstruction she had done to that ankle. She lost the top end pace and

:26:05. > :26:09.reaction in that foot, so she had to recalibrate her career path a bit,

:26:10. > :26:13.moving away from the 1500 two events more like the 5000, and maybe

:26:14. > :26:17.ultimately she'll move up as far as the marathon. She was pretty happy

:26:18. > :26:19.with her first run out at 10,000 metres, and she has the mental

:26:20. > :26:28.strength to cope with longer difference this -- distances. Emelia

:26:29. > :26:32.Gorecka bridging that gap to be able to keep track of the rest of the

:26:33. > :26:38.field, like Charlotte Arter behind her. Eilish McColgan starting to

:26:39. > :26:43.move around. Eilish McColgan, coming back from injury, would have

:26:44. > :26:48.preferred a good, sustained pace like this. She doesn't want to have

:26:49. > :26:52.to change pace quickly. She missed a bit of training but not much. And

:26:53. > :26:57.she is an expert on getting by on crosstraining. A good, brave race

:26:58. > :27:02.from Holly Rees, putting herself out there. She hasn't quite gone 60

:27:03. > :27:08.minutes yet. Being reeled in a bid by the group, led by Emelia Gorecka.

:27:09. > :27:12.Look at the long, easy stride of Eilish McColgan, bringing her into

:27:13. > :27:18.pole position. She must have one of the longest strides of women's

:27:19. > :27:21.distance runners. Once she picks up the pace and she would have to go

:27:22. > :27:27.for it later in the race, it's quite a sight to behold. Stephanie Twell a

:27:28. > :27:32.couple of places behind. Here comes Jessica Judd. What can you say about

:27:33. > :27:36.this? A brave decision. Emelia Gorecka at the front. Eilish

:27:37. > :27:43.McColgan goes with her. Jessica Judd moving along. A little bit of a loss

:27:44. > :27:47.to comment on Jessica Judd, because you wouldn't think this were

:27:48. > :27:51.possible. There is still a long way to go in this race, but she is

:27:52. > :27:54.putting herself in prime position to challenge, although Stephanie Twell

:27:55. > :28:01.also looks strong in about fifth place. I think Stephanie Twell is

:28:02. > :28:06.playing a clever game, trying to ask mental questions of the others. I

:28:07. > :28:10.think a lot of them, especially Eilish, would have expected

:28:11. > :28:13.Stephanie Twell by now to turn this into a sustained run for home, a

:28:14. > :28:18.long work-out, but she is happily sitting back in about fifth place

:28:19. > :28:22.and lacking the rate -- and letting the race unfold and leaving it down

:28:23. > :28:27.to the likes of Eilish McColgan and Emelia Gorecka, who Stephanie Twell

:28:28. > :28:32.used to train with. Finally, Eilish McColgan moves to the front and

:28:33. > :28:36.start a gradual wind-up. ... You can see Emelia Gorecka, it's starting to

:28:37. > :28:43.prove hard work for her after her injury problems. Charlotte Arter of

:28:44. > :28:47.Cardiff is in third and, behind her, Stephanie Twell and Jessica Judd.

:28:48. > :28:52.Surely she must be starting to feel the pace now, Jessica Judd, with a

:28:53. > :29:00.personal best of 15.54 at the end of May. A bit of daylight starting to

:29:01. > :29:03.open up. Eilish McColgan at the front, with Charlotte Arter behind.

:29:04. > :29:07.For Emelia Gorecka, this kind of pace would not have been a problem

:29:08. > :29:10.three years ago but it might be a bit of a stretch now for her to hang

:29:11. > :29:20.on, as Stephanie Twell maintains contact with Eilish McColgan. An

:29:21. > :29:24.almost imperceptible lift pace for Eilish McColgan. Charlotte Arter

:29:25. > :29:27.quietly having a very good race. She's followed every move, not taken

:29:28. > :29:33.a turn at the front, but putting herself very well. She is now ahead

:29:34. > :29:36.of Jessica Judd, as the questions start being asked by Eilish

:29:37. > :29:43.McColgan. Stephanie Twell reacts and goes with it. Jessica Judd

:29:44. > :29:46.desperately trying to hang the group of three, but the elastic band

:29:47. > :29:52.stretching. It's starting to a little bit. Eilish McColgan building

:29:53. > :29:58.that pace. Stephanie Twell hanging with her. Charlotte Arter hanging on

:29:59. > :30:02.well, 15.40 runner, and Jessica Judd dropping back a little bit. Eilish

:30:03. > :30:05.McColgan continually lifting the pace a little bit, and Charlotte

:30:06. > :30:12.Arter losing a bit of contact with her. Eilish McColgan and Stephanie

:30:13. > :30:16.Twell heading for a confrontation in the final couple of laps.

:30:17. > :30:27.Five pace as clear as they neared the bell. The questions are really

:30:28. > :30:35.starting to be asked of Charlotte Arter. The two in front moving well

:30:36. > :30:42.away. Eilish McColgan starting to unwind those long legs. The body

:30:43. > :30:46.lean slightly further forward, the stride extends, Eilish McColgan

:30:47. > :30:49.trying to break Steph Twell. She's hanging on the back of Eilish

:30:50. > :30:53.McColgan. Different running styles. You can see how much it's hurting

:30:54. > :30:59.McColgan. She had a little niggle in her hamstring recently. Twell looks

:31:00. > :31:05.comfortable at the moment, sitting at the back of Eilish McColgan. It's

:31:06. > :31:09.between these two in the final of the women's 5000 metres and Eilish

:31:10. > :31:14.McColgan tries to lift the pace. Steph Twell hit the accelerator and

:31:15. > :31:17.power was a way past Eilish McColgan. She's looked in control of

:31:18. > :31:21.this race throughout and looked comfortable. Steph Twell, no

:31:22. > :31:28.catching her now, look at that change of pace, it's what we used to

:31:29. > :31:32.see from Steph Twell as a youngster. Roaring the way down this home

:31:33. > :31:36.straight. What an impressive run from Steph Twell. A final 200 metres

:31:37. > :31:41.to break Eilish McColgan and take second place. That was a change of

:31:42. > :31:48.speed. Good third place for Charlotte Arter. Jessica Judd

:31:49. > :31:58.crosses the line in fifth place after her curious experiment. What a

:31:59. > :32:02.run that was from Steph Twell. Congratulations to Charlotte Arter.

:32:03. > :32:06.Steph Twell knows how good a run it was from her. Impressive from Steph

:32:07. > :32:11.Twell, that absolute change of pace was too much for Eilish McColgan.

:32:12. > :32:15.Definitely too much for Jessica Judd. We talked about how good it

:32:16. > :32:19.was to seek Jessica Judd back, it's great to see Steph Twell finishing

:32:20. > :32:26.like that. Looking back to her old self with the pace she had over the

:32:27. > :32:30.final 200 metres. Yes, she asked questions of her hamstrings, she

:32:31. > :32:34.asked whether she needed to come and race, but she was sprinting hard

:32:35. > :32:39.round the last 200 metres and Twell moved so smoothly and quickly away

:32:40. > :32:43.from her. You can see the way she moves, the way she picks her heels

:32:44. > :32:47.up behind her, Steph is running a lot better, a lot more confident in

:32:48. > :32:53.her running than she was a couple of weeks ago. Certainly last year. It's

:32:54. > :32:57.done her confidence a world of good to go to Watford, get the qualifying

:32:58. > :33:02.time she needed for the 5000 metres, then to come here and yet again with

:33:03. > :33:07.the British trials and to be British champion one more time. It means a

:33:08. > :33:12.lot to Steph Twell. She can go buy and get ready and come back for

:33:13. > :33:18.London to give it her absolute best. Eilish McColgan has done what she

:33:19. > :33:22.needed to do in coming out racing. Twell finishing just ahead of Eilish

:33:23. > :33:27.McColgan to take the 5000 metres title. Both of them are with Phil.

:33:28. > :33:33.Fantastic day for Scotland, so many great Scottish results. That was

:33:34. > :33:36.like a 1500 metre finish of old from you. It was fantastic, the heat

:33:37. > :33:46.today caused the race to be slower. It was tactical. I had the result of

:33:47. > :33:49.Chris and Josh qualifying, I was like, come on, Scots. What is the

:33:50. > :33:55.talk about trying to make that place, that is so coveted this year?

:33:56. > :33:59.Indeed, it's like home soil. After the Olympics last year quite a lot

:34:00. > :34:05.of people know how to come out and perform today. I think it showed

:34:06. > :34:10.with Eilish and I both in the 5000. What does it mean to you to be part

:34:11. > :34:13.of the team coming forward? I'm still happy, two weeks ago I didn't

:34:14. > :34:16.think I would be racing at all, I still can't believe it, even this

:34:17. > :34:23.morning I wasn't going to run. I'm so happy. Why was that? I ended up

:34:24. > :34:26.pulling my hamstring, which is strange for a distance runner. I

:34:27. > :34:32.ended up tearing it, they said, no chance. It's feeling better, I knew

:34:33. > :34:37.in five days' time it would be fine. Today was a risk. I'm so happy to

:34:38. > :34:42.come second. Over the moon. I knew there would be quick girls behind,

:34:43. > :34:48.especially Jess, a new Steph would win it. But come top two. I thought

:34:49. > :34:49.I was going to cry at the end, really happy. Great determination,

:34:50. > :35:01.you've done it. The men's hammer, dominant

:35:02. > :35:05.performance from the British record-holder Nick Miller. This was

:35:06. > :35:13.his best throw of the afternoon. A third-round throw. Really got under

:35:14. > :35:18.this. Just shy of 75 metres. 74.98 that will be measure that. Five of

:35:19. > :35:22.his throws would have won the competition ahead of Taylor

:35:23. > :35:32.Campbell. Nick Miller looking in good shape. A win is 74.9 eight.

:35:33. > :35:42.There we are, the one and two. Steph Twell and Eilish McColgan in the

:35:43. > :35:47.women's 5000 metres. This is the way it was one. A sprint finish from

:35:48. > :35:53.Steph Twell broke Eilish McColgan. Struggling a little bit with her

:35:54. > :35:57.hamstring. I'm sure she'll improve. For Steph Twell comprehensive

:35:58. > :36:04.victory in the end. Good run from Charlotte Arter in third as well.

:36:05. > :36:08.There are your one, two, three, four, five... Six. Indy 5000 metres.

:36:09. > :36:15.Where have they come from, I've not seen them all day! Not one comes

:36:16. > :36:21.along, but four. Didn't you see the EB just buzzing in? They'll be warm

:36:22. > :36:29.those outfits. Gina has joined us. Great to see you. Great to see you

:36:30. > :36:32.back running. -- Dina. For months I've been wanting to get back to

:36:33. > :36:36.sprinting, it's always when you are away from something you realise,

:36:37. > :36:39.this is what I want to do for the rest of my life, this is where I

:36:40. > :36:42.should be. To be able to line up on the line, get on the line and two

:36:43. > :36:46.blocks with the girls, run the race, it wasn't the best race for me but

:36:47. > :36:51.at the same time I was happy to be there. We're waiting for the final

:36:52. > :36:54.two events, the women's and men's 200 metre finals. Any other year we

:36:55. > :37:01.would expect it out there but it would be too much this year, would

:37:02. > :37:06.it? Coming back from injury? I was tempted initially but my coach

:37:07. > :37:10.decided we are going to run a few hundreds because I need to focus on

:37:11. > :37:15.execution, as lots of people saw yesterday. I need to focus on

:37:16. > :37:19.getting out of the blocks. I love 200s, can't wait to get going round

:37:20. > :37:22.the bend again. We have to wait a bit for that one. We're going back

:37:23. > :37:31.to February when your injury happened. You knew it was a long,

:37:32. > :37:37.hard road back to even think about getting a place. I remember getting

:37:38. > :37:42.told, you've broken it, no stress fracture, you've broken it. I knew I

:37:43. > :37:46.would have to have surgery immediately and before I could hope

:37:47. > :37:52.to jog again, even think about putting on spikes, it would be at

:37:53. > :37:55.least 34 months. I had a dissertation to do, had surgery,

:37:56. > :38:00.then I was still under anaesthetic, thinking where is my head? I had to

:38:01. > :38:04.type up a draft for uni. It has been a tense couple of months. There were

:38:05. > :38:08.points where my coach had to be like, you have to push through this,

:38:09. > :38:11.be confident, believe in yourself, really focus and realise, I want to

:38:12. > :38:16.make that team, I want to be in London, wants to represent my

:38:17. > :38:21.country at a home games. I'm so happy to be on TV, pain-free...

:38:22. > :38:25.Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this race, it's a really

:38:26. > :38:29.exciting women's 200 metres. You would expect Williams, Henry and

:38:30. > :38:41.Hylton to be amongst the top Vickie. Pretty good, inside 23 seconds. It

:38:42. > :38:43.was always going to be between these two. Putting on a bit of a show

:38:44. > :38:55.here. Smoothly around that bend. Brilliant race, she's not almost

:38:56. > :39:00.half a second off her best. -- she has knocked almost half a second.

:39:01. > :39:13.The final of the women's 200 metres, this is how they line up.

:39:14. > :39:20.Jodie Williams is probably tired of hearing what an exceptional junior

:39:21. > :39:23.she was. The talent she had. For reasons mostly of injury, she hasn't

:39:24. > :39:31.been able to quite live up to the early talent. 23.53 this season.

:39:32. > :39:41.Kimberly Baptiste ran a personal best in the heats. 23.30 four.

:39:42. > :39:46.Inside her, the quickest British woman this season over 200 metres,

:39:47. > :39:53.Desiree Henry. Quickest over 100 as well. Still just 21, Desiree Henry.

:39:54. > :39:59.She's been running at the highest level for a while. Beth Dobbin has a

:40:00. > :40:04.good lane draw, produced a good personal best to win her heat. Might

:40:05. > :40:09.struggle with athlete inside and outside. Bianca Williams is quickest

:40:10. > :40:18.of the qualifiers, 22.80 nine. The only woman to go below 23 seconds in

:40:19. > :40:24.the heats. Shannon Beljan, her twin sister produced a good run in the

:40:25. > :40:32.final of the 400. And Shannon Hylton looked very impressive in the heats.

:40:33. > :40:35.Louise Bloor. The most experienced athlete here, former Commonwealth

:40:36. > :40:46.relay silver-medallist, former 100 in Glasgow for England. And Pipi.

:40:47. > :40:47.Couldn't get back to Beth Dobbin in the heats, so finds herself in lane

:40:48. > :40:59.one. In the absence of Dina Asher-Smith,

:41:00. > :41:04.who is in the studio, in the absence of her at her best, quite an open

:41:05. > :41:10.race. Desiree Henry will certainly fancy her chances of becoming the UK

:41:11. > :41:13.champion here. Bianca Williams two lanes inside her. Will be a strong

:41:14. > :41:37.challenge. So is Shannon Hylton. Clearly away, very good start from

:41:38. > :41:42.Bianca Williams it inside Beth Dobbin. Desiree Henry in lane six.

:41:43. > :41:48.Shannon Hylton out quickly over the first 150 minutes. Hylton leading

:41:49. > :41:53.from Desiree Henry, Henry trying to respond. It's Hylton and Henry

:41:54. > :41:57.competing. Through comes Bianca Williams but Hylton holds one.

:41:58. > :42:03.22.964 Shannon Hylton to become the champion. Held of the best of the

:42:04. > :42:09.rest. Desiree Henry and Bianca Williams finishing strongly but

:42:10. > :42:13.Shannon Hylton takes the title. Just 20, and UK champion. A fraction

:42:14. > :42:18.outside her personal best. The quickest time she's run this year.

:42:19. > :42:24.That was the way to win the title. Went out strongly. And just, just

:42:25. > :42:30.was able to hold off Henry and Bianca Williams coming through. It

:42:31. > :42:36.was a great run by Shannon Hylton. The bend was majestic. She was

:42:37. > :42:41.smooth, silky. She put her foot down just at the right time, which caused

:42:42. > :42:45.pressure and tension in the shoulders of the women outside her.

:42:46. > :42:49.Bianca Williams charge out of the block. Exactly the same way she did

:42:50. > :42:56.in the semi. Look how patient Shannon Hylton is. She could see

:42:57. > :43:00.Desiree Henry out in front. All she did is concentrate and focus on what

:43:01. > :43:04.she needed to do. Her shoulders pumping really well but there is no

:43:05. > :43:12.tension. She leans towards that take. A good victory. Bianca

:43:13. > :43:17.Williams snuck in past Desiree Henry. To take second place. Have a

:43:18. > :43:22.look from here how cool and calm Shannon is. No tension at all, is

:43:23. > :43:33.there? Even though there is fatigue. She looks great. Just inside her,

:43:34. > :43:39.Bianca Williams finishing strongly. The finish line came quickly enough

:43:40. > :43:43.for Hylton. A very impressive run. Under 23 seconds. She has the

:43:44. > :43:48.qualifying standard already, as Bianca Williams does her personal

:43:49. > :43:50.best. It I personal best and a ticket to London. She is the UK

:43:51. > :43:57.champion. She talking to Phil. We've been talking about what a

:43:58. > :44:01.difficult year you had last year, so many injuries, to come back this

:44:02. > :44:05.year in this form, to secure your place in the team, it has to be an

:44:06. > :44:10.amazing feeling. Yeah, so many emotions when I crossed the line. It

:44:11. > :44:15.was such hard work this year. I have to thank my parents, my team. And

:44:16. > :44:20.the therapists who supported me. This year hasn't been the best. I'm

:44:21. > :44:26.just so happy. I can't believe I'm going to London. Honestly. Looking

:44:27. > :44:29.across all the likely candidates for a place on the team there are so

:44:30. > :44:32.many nowadays in Britain. To get your place on the team is a great

:44:33. > :44:39.feat. What do you think you can possibly achieve at that world

:44:40. > :44:43.stage? London is an amazing stadium. I'll be amongst so many top

:44:44. > :44:49.athletes, hopefully they can push me to more personal bests. I'm just so

:44:50. > :44:50.happy. I know it's an emotional moment but enjoy, you deserve it.

:44:51. > :44:59.Thank you so much, thank you. There was emotion down there with

:45:00. > :45:01.Phil from Shannon Hylton and emotion in the studio, because Dina

:45:02. > :45:06.Asher-Smith you have known each other since you were knee-high to a

:45:07. > :45:11.grasshopper. I am so happy, Shannon is... I'm going to get emotional...

:45:12. > :45:16.She is so talented. She is talented isn't she, and focused. A bit like

:45:17. > :45:20.yourself. These girls, actually, Dina, these girls cite somebody like

:45:21. > :45:24.you to see how you transition from the Europe junior age group, to

:45:25. > :45:28.dealing with pressure like this. I'm sure you've been a lot of

:45:29. > :45:32.inspiration to her. Maybe, but I'm so unbelievably happy for Shannon,

:45:33. > :45:36.she's had such a year full of injuries. Where you just think,

:45:37. > :45:38.without that you could have done so well. And now she's going to London

:45:39. > :45:47.so I'm... So happy. Such talent out there as well, with

:45:48. > :45:53.the likes of Henry and Bianca Williams as well. We had women on

:45:54. > :46:01.the start line, four of whom have the time already, and it is the same

:46:02. > :46:04.with the men's. 2014 was great for British sprinting and it got better

:46:05. > :46:10.and better. Junior athletes making the transition is a positive thing.

:46:11. > :46:15.The men's race will be equally mouthwatering. We should say that

:46:16. > :46:20.the men's race as well, if you think there is emotional right now, you

:46:21. > :46:33.have a vested interest. My boyfriend is running. And your boyfriend is?

:46:34. > :46:38.Zharnel. Come on, laid down! They all used through, the four we

:46:39. > :46:42.expected. Fair to say that maybe Hughes and Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake

:46:43. > :46:47.more used to it than the others, but Zharnel Hughes in particular. I

:46:48. > :46:54.think he would agree, Denise, that he was using at the earliest and

:46:55. > :46:58.looked more relaxed. Is bent in the transition was smooth. It's a matter

:46:59. > :47:03.of putting body and mind into one and making sure he delivers, and he

:47:04. > :47:10.can, he is talented. Definitely. He's going to be amazing. There he

:47:11. > :47:16.is! Just unbridled enthusiasm there and adoration. Let's get down to our

:47:17. > :47:31.commentary team, and they can talk you through the line-up.

:47:32. > :47:37.Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake looks good, strong and comfortable as ever.

:47:38. > :47:42.Danny Talbot so good around the bend, easing his way around. Adam

:47:43. > :47:47.Gemili is already looking for the line, and he gets it.

:47:48. > :47:54.Well, two of the main contenders, Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake and Zharnel

:47:55. > :48:00.Hughes, and just to conceptualise the race, these men who have

:48:01. > :48:05.qualified, the top four K, but at least three of them, you add Adam

:48:06. > :48:11.Gemili, three of the fastest four ever men at the British 200 metres.

:48:12. > :48:16.Only John Regis has ever run quicker. To have three of the top

:48:17. > :48:22.four ever contended for 18, with Danny Talbot, it shows you the

:48:23. > :48:27.strength and depth we have. What a great race we have in prospect.

:48:28. > :48:31.Let's do it lane by lane. Great run from Leon Reid in the heats, and he

:48:32. > :48:39.deserves his place. A new personal best, 20.59. A super run from him to

:48:40. > :48:47.get into the final. Inside him, young Sam Miller. He had a great

:48:48. > :48:52.European teams wiki and -- weekend. Williams had to pull out injured.

:48:53. > :48:57.Sam wouldn't have thanked him for that, at great experience from Adam

:48:58. > :49:01.Gemili. The big questions are against Adam Gemili. You didn't win

:49:02. > :49:08.the 100 metres. He now has to find something here he hasn't quite had

:49:09. > :49:14.yet this G8 against Danny Talbot, and beat him elsewhere. Danny Talbot

:49:15. > :49:21.is in great form, the form of his life. Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake, he

:49:22. > :49:28.races in the states, performed brilliantly in the US, he did well

:49:29. > :49:33.in one run for Great Britain at the Olympic Games last year. Zharnel

:49:34. > :49:36.Hughes, a great talent. He is yet to break 19 seconds. Nethaneel

:49:37. > :49:42.Mitchell-Blake has already done that. Zharnel Hughes have a lane

:49:43. > :49:48.which allows him to look at the others, lane three. We have a

:49:49. > :49:53.nonstarter in lane two, Toby Harries, who ran a personal best to

:49:54. > :49:59.get through. And Roy Ejiakuekwu pushed Adam Gemili. He was in lane

:50:00. > :50:09.six, a better lane and he has for the final. -- than he has. I am sure

:50:10. > :50:14.that the other guys will understand the way that we are concentrating on

:50:15. > :50:21.these middle lanes, Hughes, Mitchell-Blake, Tolbert and Gemili.

:50:22. > :50:26.All have a qualifying time but only two are guaranteed selection. Will

:50:27. > :50:35.it be the top three who take all three spots? The men's 200 metres

:50:36. > :50:41.final. And the way they go. It's a pretty even break from all of them.

:50:42. > :50:51.Gemili got out quickly, but Talbot running a good friend. Adam Gemili

:50:52. > :50:55.being led by the other three. On the line, perhaps it's going to be

:50:56. > :51:01.Mitchell-Blake. Leon Reid finishing like a train for third. 20.2. The

:51:02. > :51:10.winning time. Mitchell-Blake is the champion. Danny Talbot joins him in

:51:11. > :51:18.the team. Dominant from the two of them. Zharnel Hughes fell apart in

:51:19. > :51:24.the last 30, 40 metres. I don't know if he is OK. Leon Reid finished like

:51:25. > :51:29.a train, and just struggling. He is grabbing his lap. He didn't look

:51:30. > :51:39.good in the heats. -- grabbing his leg. That is sad for Gemili. Well,

:51:40. > :51:45.Colin, we said it would be about two from four to get in the team, but

:51:46. > :51:51.two of them fell apart, and Mitchell-Blake held it together.

:51:52. > :51:56.Danny Talbot makes a great race. We think we know what happened to

:51:57. > :52:04.Gemili. Incredible race, Steve, and I'm glancing at the board to look at

:52:05. > :52:06.the results. A new championship record for Mitchell-Blake. New

:52:07. > :52:14.personal best for Danny Talbot. And a new personal best for Leon Reid. A

:52:15. > :52:20.great 200 -- great 200 metre running. Good conditions. Leon Reid

:52:21. > :52:28.has now run the qualifying time in third spot. Who'd want to be a

:52:29. > :52:30.selector? Not us! We are sitting here, enjoying this type of

:52:31. > :52:36.competition. Adam Gemili committed himself. He knew he had a bit of a

:52:37. > :52:40.problem and had to commit himself around the bend, and that's what he

:52:41. > :52:45.did, but Danny Talbot stamped on him early in that bend, putting himself

:52:46. > :52:48.in a great position to fly off. Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake on the

:52:49. > :52:56.inside wasn't going to give up. He worked hard. Look at these athletes

:52:57. > :53:02.dipping into look at Leon Reid. -- dipping in. And look at Leon Reid.

:53:03. > :53:08.All the talented athlete inside him, but he kept focus and worked hard. I

:53:09. > :53:12.think Zharnel will be a bit frustrated, but he'll come good

:53:13. > :53:18.again later on. Like you said, Steve, who would be a selector? Wow!

:53:19. > :53:23.At least those two, you can guarantee they are on. Thereafter

:53:24. > :53:30.winners, Leon Reid with a great run as well, but the winners are going

:53:31. > :53:34.to the World Championships. It's great to see not only the two guys

:53:35. > :53:40.going through but also to celebrate it with your family. They are up

:53:41. > :53:44.there, my dad, my two sisters, my cousins. There is a lot of love. I

:53:45. > :53:49.love it. Congratulations, secured your place. What pressure and make

:53:50. > :53:54.it through, you don't with it so well. I prepared for it all season.

:53:55. > :53:59.I'm based in the states. My coach and I made a conscious effort to

:54:00. > :54:03.ensure that, come the latter part, the priority was to come and get the

:54:04. > :54:08.job done. Danny, a personal best today when you needed it. It was

:54:09. > :54:13.only, as Steve was saying in commentary, four of you and four

:54:14. > :54:19.into three doesn't go. It more than just four. Leon Reid is at my club

:54:20. > :54:25.as well, a personal best to comfort. It's a competitive event. I'm glad I

:54:26. > :54:34.secured my place. A personal best to come third.

:54:35. > :54:40.Zharnel Hughes, watching him, really the last 20 metres, but what about

:54:41. > :54:45.Leon Reid. He ran for Northern Ireland in the Commonwealth Games.

:54:46. > :54:48.He will be heading there for Northern Ireland, I presume, but

:54:49. > :54:54.will he go for Great Britain in the World Championships? A personal best

:54:55. > :54:59.and equality in time. Those two technically go. -- a qualifying

:55:00. > :55:05.time. Gemili grabbing his leg when he finished. Questions for them.

:55:06. > :55:08.Adam Tolbert deserves his place, and Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake has come

:55:09. > :55:19.home this time and performed superbly well. -- Adam Talbot. I'm

:55:20. > :55:22.thinking that perhaps Leon Reid should go minimum in the relay, part

:55:23. > :55:28.of that squad. He has shown that he can run. ... I think he is coached

:55:29. > :55:37.by James Hillier as well. He's had a good weekend. A championship record.

:55:38. > :55:40.Look how fast that is, 20.18 four Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake, and a real

:55:41. > :55:46.scrap with Danny Talbot. Great running from him. What about Leon

:55:47. > :55:52.Reid, 20.30 eight. That's a qualifying time. Zharnel Hughes just

:55:53. > :55:56.behind in fourth. Sadly, not a good weekend for Adam Gemili, and I guess

:55:57. > :55:59.you'll have to sit down with his coach and maybe the British

:56:00. > :56:07.selectors, telling them where he's at. Sixth place for Adam Gemili.

:56:08. > :56:15.Thank you. A cracking end to the day in Birmingham, and just time to give

:56:16. > :56:18.you a little pointer to where you can find more sport. If you are a

:56:19. > :56:25.fan of tennis, it's a big couple of weeks for you, and in about 20

:56:26. > :56:27.minutes on BBC One, a special Sue Barker documentary, where she meets

:56:28. > :56:33.tennis legends from all over the globe. Tomorrow is the start from

:56:34. > :56:38.Wimbledon, coverage from FW 19 from 11:30am. Loads more athletics as

:56:39. > :56:43.well, I'm a cache highlights of the Diamond League next weekend, and

:56:44. > :56:50.then we go to the anniversary games on Sunday.

:56:51. > :56:56.Just a little time to digests and taking what we've seen. Thoughts,

:56:57. > :57:00.Denny 's, in terms of the runners and riders and those who have

:57:01. > :57:05.qualified. A few surprises, but generally a great day for middle

:57:06. > :57:09.distance running. I enjoyed watching the 800 metres. Some great battles.

:57:10. > :57:16.That's what we want to see. Great surprises, young Leon Reid in the

:57:17. > :57:21.200. This is what athletics has been about. It's been a decent

:57:22. > :57:27.championships. Wood some good strength in -- some good strength

:57:28. > :57:29.and depth. Some good solid performances from the old strong

:57:30. > :57:34.ones, like Stephanie Twell, but O'Hare. They are not really old! But

:57:35. > :57:40.just compared to the young ones. And then to see Jessica Judd coming back

:57:41. > :57:44.from the turmoil of the last couple of years is really good for her. To

:57:45. > :57:49.see Elliot Giles rake through and win the men's 800 metres. And

:57:50. > :57:58.Matthew Hudson-Smith. A great, strong run for him. Shannon Hylton,

:57:59. > :58:01.a fantastic run in the 200. Morgan Lake yesterday as well, of course.

:58:02. > :58:08.It has been a two-day meet in Birmingham. These British trials,

:58:09. > :58:10.British championships, but it's all about the World Athletics

:58:11. > :58:15.Championships. They start in just over a month in London. We will be

:58:16. > :58:27.there and I hope that you will, too. Good night.

:58:28. > :58:40.It's a new British record! It's a mammoth job. A stunning performance.

:58:41. > :58:56.Sophie Gibson, what benefit. It's huge! The world title! Beautiful

:58:57. > :58:59.job. Laura Beal -- Laura Muir has smashed the British record.
