:00:25. > :00:35.Michael Johnson was starring to another gold medal. That is history

:00:36. > :00:40.in the making. Jessica Ennis-Hill is back on top of the world. New world

:00:41. > :01:06.record. Champion of the world. Great Britain, they've just seen the

:01:07. > :01:18.silver medal. They will be inspired. They know they've got a chance.

:01:19. > :01:28.Stood like a colossus over the sport for so long. Now in the final

:01:29. > :01:36.moment, he's close. It's all or nothing. We've never won the world

:01:37. > :01:47.title. Good start. Has taken some ground. Great Britain are leading.

:01:48. > :02:00.Adam Gemili is running brilliantly down the back straight. Britain are

:02:01. > :02:06.still leaving this! He's going to be chased. Away he goes! It's going to

:02:07. > :02:42.be tight! New British record! Great Britain have the gold medal!

:02:43. > :02:48.That was phenomenal. Everyone is great and that was amazing. This was

:02:49. > :02:55.a perfect race. Are gold-medallists of the night. Here are the new world

:02:56. > :03:00.champions. We work so hard, the guys behind the scene, it is great to do

:03:01. > :03:07.it in London, our hometown. It is amazing. The emotion and the

:03:08. > :03:16.euphoria. Trying to register that we are actually world champions. What a

:03:17. > :03:27.moment that was, on a night of the highest drama. They entered British

:03:28. > :03:32.sporting folklore. This World Championship has been full of

:03:33. > :03:39.surprises. Usain Bolt rode out from his career with cramp in his left

:03:40. > :03:43.hamstring, pulling up and unable to finish. That was not the ending we

:03:44. > :03:48.wanted to see. The Hollywood ending does not always happen. It didn't

:03:49. > :03:58.happen for a Mo Farah but what a fight he put up. Mo Farah, who has

:03:59. > :04:07.had an amazing career, still has two races to run before he retires. The

:04:08. > :04:18.tenth and final day, and the fans come out in force. Wonderful to see

:04:19. > :04:22.so many packing it out. London, the UK, the athletes, the organisers

:04:23. > :04:30.deliver the best of the biggest World Championships in 34 years.

:04:31. > :04:35.700,000 people have come to the stadium for these championships.

:04:36. > :04:44.Athletics has a massive opportunity to build on this. We have a chance

:04:45. > :04:48.to reflect on this because the action doesn't get going for another

:04:49. > :04:54.35 minutes or so. They will be inspired by last night, by a proper

:04:55. > :04:59.bit of British summer. It felt like summer had arrived. Colin has joined

:05:00. > :05:11.us in the studio. Delighted to see you. Last night, did it feel like

:05:12. > :05:21.there was a sea change? The baton was metaphorically passed. It was

:05:22. > :05:24.interesting. I was obviously there with Ore before and getting a feel

:05:25. > :05:28.for what was going on and it was one of the occasions for the first time

:05:29. > :05:30.where I felt there was this bond with the team. As the team was

:05:31. > :05:35.leaving they were applauding each other. Everybody was really

:05:36. > :05:39.applauding the teams to go out and wish them well knew the result from

:05:40. > :05:43.Mo Farah and they were a little bit disappointed but they didn't think

:05:44. > :05:49.it could affect them. It encouraged them to go out and say, let's do it.

:05:50. > :05:54.It was just fantastic to see how they responded to that added

:05:55. > :06:02.pressure of the gold medal not being delivered by the hero, so I was so

:06:03. > :06:07.excited to see what happened. The way the women and the men performed,

:06:08. > :06:14.under huge pressure, it was really good to see. It was loaded with so

:06:15. > :06:20.many elements. The farewell, the denouement, the final chapter of two

:06:21. > :06:23.Legends of the sport. Within that cold front of emotion and

:06:24. > :06:31.anticipation they were able to keep it together. Perfect. A lot of

:06:32. > :06:38.things happened last night that were fantastic and some great moments,

:06:39. > :06:41.and to be completely honest that is not the way Usain Bolt would have

:06:42. > :06:49.scripted his finish. We shouldn't ignore that fact, it is not how he

:06:50. > :06:58.would have wanted to finish and not what anybody wanted to see. We'd

:06:59. > :07:07.never seen him in that way. He's a giant the sport. Really unfortunate

:07:08. > :07:20.that his career will end with that being the last race. Great Britain

:07:21. > :07:33.winning that really, they've been amazing all week. That was a

:07:34. > :07:37.fantastic reward. They came to see something, something special from

:07:38. > :07:40.Usain Bolt and Mo Farah, but they will trade that any night because it

:07:41. > :07:47.was amazing. The women winning a silver medal as well, it was a great

:07:48. > :07:51.night, it was a special night. It was a very special night. That

:07:52. > :07:56.feeling that the younger generation, the future of athletics, it feels

:07:57. > :08:04.like it is in safe hands after last night. It is in safe hands. It is

:08:05. > :08:13.progressing. Even though there was disappointment, we know that he is

:08:14. > :08:21.etched into the history books for all time. But this is about another

:08:22. > :08:27.chapter. We are in the richest vein of sprinting talent that we've ever

:08:28. > :08:34.had in the country. These are the best of the best that they are only

:08:35. > :08:44.getting better. They are young. We had the most successful European

:08:45. > :08:57.junior. But they can transition to this stage. For me, I don't want the

:08:58. > :09:04.legacy to be that narrative. These have been very successful and the

:09:05. > :09:10.next generation has demonstrated what they can do. We will talk about

:09:11. > :09:15.the legacy and the legend of those two retiring. It started early with

:09:16. > :09:22.the 50-kilometre and 20-kilometre walks. Tom was worth as been a real

:09:23. > :09:29.favourite and had absolute heartbreak when he was disqualified

:09:30. > :09:35.for his third red card which is a disqualification. That is usually

:09:36. > :09:44.for a lifting the feet off the floor. That's what he got his

:09:45. > :09:49.fourth. He was heartbroken. The Colombian winner of the race. Tom

:09:50. > :09:52.was worth really felt he had a chance of breaking through to the

:09:53. > :10:00.medals and he was absolutely heartbroken. This is the beginning.

:10:01. > :10:05.These bad days make the good days really good. The support I've had

:10:06. > :10:13.and my family and everyone who's come here today, I'm sorry I let

:10:14. > :10:19.them down but I know that I can get a medal one day. I'm not going to be

:10:20. > :10:24.complacent, I can work hard on that technique and I can come out and

:10:25. > :10:34.show what I can really do. We saw him get that record at the

:10:35. > :10:38.anniversary games. We were all saying, this could become a regular

:10:39. > :10:48.fixture. I think he felt he was going to use the crowd today. He

:10:49. > :10:53.will be devastated. That is the word. Devastated. He knows that he's

:10:54. > :10:56.in good shape. He's been training to get his endurance factor up. We

:10:57. > :11:00.marvelled at watching him in the Diamond League because most people

:11:01. > :11:08.in the audience could relate to how fast he was walking. Faster than

:11:09. > :11:14.most of us can run. Many times they don't see that at close quarters. He

:11:15. > :11:20.was devastated but I hope he takes heart and spirit from it. He's still

:11:21. > :11:27.got the Europeans, the Commonwealth. He still got the fraternity. For me,

:11:28. > :11:34.he's got lots of time. Thank you very much. The next medal ceremony

:11:35. > :11:43.is the relay. Glorious silver in that race.

:11:44. > :12:04.A good run so far. A couple of lanes outside. Just stretching, what a

:12:05. > :12:10.stretch. Given on Henry. They are in a position to challenge for a medal!

:12:11. > :12:25.Giving it to Forbes, it is Jamaica and the United States, but Neita is

:12:26. > :12:26.there and the champion is USA, Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Jamaica.

:12:27. > :12:37.Silver medal There they are, silver-medallists.

:12:38. > :12:43.That's what you like to see. Progress. Moving up the podium.

:12:44. > :12:53.Great performance against difficult opposition. It was stunning. It is

:12:54. > :12:57.about their attitudes. The bronze medal gave them a lot of confidence.

:12:58. > :13:07.I've talked about the training camps. You've got to do it when it

:13:08. > :13:17.matters and they've managed that. It is a great squad. Fantastic work.

:13:18. > :13:34.Andrew Carter, over to you. Jamaica, who won the last two whelp idols.

:13:35. > :13:58.It was bronze in Rio de Janiero and silver here in London. This talented

:13:59. > :14:03.quartet. Great work. But you think of dee-10-mac, unsure if she would

:14:04. > :14:18.be competing, broke her foot in February. Young quartet as well.

:14:19. > :14:23.Asha Philip a little bit older. I hope she will forgive me. The

:14:24. > :14:29.champions, the Americans. What a Championships it has been for the

:14:30. > :14:42.United States. Suddenly I call Rush -- gold rush. Arianna Washington

:14:43. > :14:58.gets a medal as well. She ran in the heats. A second is having taken gold

:14:59. > :15:03.in the 100. Could have run in the 200, Tori Bowie. It was such an

:15:04. > :15:09.effort in the 100, she took a bit of a knock. Going into the relay squad

:15:10. > :15:16.of the eye. Take the gold again in this event. The advent of the United

:15:17. > :16:29.States. Nine goals for the United States at

:16:30. > :16:33.these championships, the same three as it was in Rio, slightly different

:16:34. > :16:34.order, Jamaica with the bronze, silver for Great Britain and

:16:35. > :16:48.Northern Ireland. STUDIO: Wonderful scenes, and I am

:16:49. > :16:52.sure they have hardly slept a wink between them, so excited last night

:16:53. > :16:57.with their silver, and then of course just 15 or 20 minutes later,

:16:58. > :17:02.the men came out, and they have really set the atmosphere inside the

:17:03. > :17:05.stadium Allied, the men came out to the most inspiring atmosphere, and

:17:06. > :17:10.they must have been inspired by what they have seen, so only right that

:17:11. > :17:11.the women looked on, and this is the alternative view of the men's 4x100m

:17:12. > :17:27.relay. Safely away, CJ has already taken

:17:28. > :17:32.some ground out of China, good start for the USA, but Great Britain are

:17:33. > :17:35.leading it, Adam Gemili has got the baton, he is running brilliantly

:17:36. > :17:40.down the back straight, he will give it to Danny Talbot, Great Britain

:17:41. > :17:43.still leading this! And now Yohan Blake has got the baton, but it is

:17:44. > :17:47.Great Britain out in front, he is going to be chased by the great man,

:17:48. > :17:52.Mitchell-Blake, away he goes, the USA are chasing, Usain Bolt is

:17:53. > :17:59.chasing, Mitchell-Blake is trying to hang on, it is going to be tied, it

:18:00. > :18:15.is going to be gold! A new British record!

:18:16. > :18:24.Great Britain have won the gold medal, Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake!

:18:25. > :18:28.That was phenomenal! STUDIO: What is so beautiful is to

:18:29. > :18:33.see the women watching in a way that shows the fantastic team spirit, so

:18:34. > :18:36.excited for the men, we bumped into Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake on our way

:18:37. > :18:41.up to the studio, and he actually said, I can't quite construct the

:18:42. > :18:47.right sentence to describe my experience, my emotion, how I am

:18:48. > :18:50.feeling right now. Yeah, he was very excited, and his celebration was

:18:51. > :18:56.just amazing, showing all of the elation, but interesting to see the

:18:57. > :19:03.girls, all trying to run for the dice, that was great to see. A

:19:04. > :19:08.standing ovation from the crowd inside here, and it is packed, the

:19:09. > :19:11.first athletics events does not start for 20 minutes, but they knew

:19:12. > :19:17.that the ceremonies were happening, and they made sure they got here to

:19:18. > :19:21.witness this and hear a surprise anthem, let's say, a bonus and

:19:22. > :19:35.thumb, a brilliant opportunity that they took with both hands.

:19:36. > :19:43.Yes, it is just what we needed. And there is a squad. Yes, numerous

:19:44. > :19:46.people in the squad, and they enjoy working as a squad, and they will

:19:47. > :19:51.genuinely feel that they are sharing this medal, not keeping it in

:19:52. > :19:54.isolation. Japan, who got the bronze, their studio sits by hours,

:19:55. > :19:59.and they were very excited last night with their performance. But we

:20:00. > :20:05.were very excited about the man that crossed the line first, shamelessly

:20:06. > :20:13.proud of Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake and his quartet. Steve Cram. Well,

:20:14. > :20:18.the Japanese contingent running brilliantly well, they did not have

:20:19. > :20:21.their new star, if you like, the teenager who performed so well

:20:22. > :20:27.individually, did not need him, it is a team effort, as our guys get

:20:28. > :20:35.ready for their moment. The USA, Mike Rodgers, Justin Gatling,

:20:36. > :20:41.Coleman, they brought in Bacon on the top bend. I am going to resist

:20:42. > :20:45.saying that he got fried by Danny Talbot! But certainly did not help

:20:46. > :20:50.their case. They ran very well, and if you had said to them, you can run

:20:51. > :20:53.37.5 in the final, they might have taken that, thought it might have

:20:54. > :20:59.been good enough. But not on this occasion. There is going to be a

:21:00. > :21:03.massive cheer just before they set it up, because as I said last night,

:21:04. > :21:07.ten times before this World Championships, five times we have

:21:08. > :21:11.not got the baton around or have been disqualified. The other five

:21:12. > :21:17.times we have won a medal, but never the gold at the World Championships.

:21:18. > :21:18.That all changed in 37 seconds last night.

:21:19. > :21:33.CHEERING AND APPLAUSE Adam Gemili, Danny Talbot... Those

:21:34. > :21:38.who were here will never forget it, it was a bit like 2012 all over

:21:39. > :21:44.again, if anything may be louder. Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake, just

:21:45. > :21:50.managing to hold off Coleman. It has been a long year for him as well.

:21:51. > :21:55.Danny Talbot, who has been in such good form, personal best in the

:21:56. > :22:02.200m, great and the band. Adam Gemili patient enough, not in the

:22:03. > :22:05.individual event, but great in the morning, even better last night,

:22:06. > :22:09.going away from Gatland, and what they start given to them by CJ Ujah

:22:10. > :22:15.out of the blocks, got them in the lead, and they were never headed.

:22:16. > :22:18.Close in the end, one of the great races. Gold for Great Britain! The

:22:19. > :23:09.national anthem of Great Britain. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

:23:10. > :23:15.A spine tingling moment last night, and I think a proud, proud few

:23:16. > :23:18.minutes for these guys. They will remember this for the rest

:23:19. > :23:21.of their lives, whatever happens next, but they are not going

:23:22. > :23:27.anywhere, this is a young quartet that could be around for a good few

:23:28. > :23:28.years to come. Watch out, USA! Watch out, Jamaica, Great Britain at the

:23:29. > :23:44.moment are the best in the world. STUDIO: What a wonderful atmosphere

:23:45. > :23:48.in here this evening, and that sense of, you know, this crowd have been

:23:49. > :23:51.coming to see great performances, and it doesn't matter that they

:23:52. > :23:55.haven't seen loads of British medals, they have cheered everybody,

:23:56. > :24:01.but there was last night that extra sense, wasn't there, of delight in

:24:02. > :24:03.the crowd? This is what many of the athletes have enjoyed, that the

:24:04. > :24:07.British crowd are knowledgeable, and they are happy to support virtually

:24:08. > :24:11.every nation that comes along. As soon as you get to the final, they

:24:12. > :24:16.are uploading, and when you get a gold medal like this from our boys,

:24:17. > :24:19.it is an added bonus, and it re-engages the audience again to

:24:20. > :24:24.really feel like they are enjoying their athletics. It has just been a

:24:25. > :24:30.huge positive result for world athletics, the way the British crowd

:24:31. > :24:33.has turned out. It has happened so seldom over the years, as I said,

:24:34. > :24:39.all the great sprinters we have had, to beat the Americans, thes face it,

:24:40. > :24:42.beat the Jamaicans, albeit through injury, this is a massive

:24:43. > :24:47.achievement, and every single person in the stadium can appreciate that,

:24:48. > :24:51.and watching at home, it was just a big deal. OK, well I think what we

:24:52. > :24:55.need to do is a little bit of considered analysis at this point,

:24:56. > :24:58.we didn't get over to your touch-screen, and it is the very

:24:59. > :25:05.last evening of the touch-screen, are you taking it back to the

:25:06. > :25:13.States? I am! Excess baggage! What I wanted to see here is to take a look

:25:14. > :25:18.at where did Great Britain win this? The US was always going to be the

:25:19. > :25:25.leader in this, in the main contender here. Let's look at this,

:25:26. > :25:29.you have got the US and Great Britain about the same time, about

:25:30. > :25:34.even write there. If we keep going down the back, Adam Gemili really

:25:35. > :25:38.ran what looked like a screaming back stretch there, so let's see

:25:39. > :25:43.where they touch off first, handing off to Danny Talbot right there. The

:25:44. > :25:47.US about the same time, so we are still about even, so at this point

:25:48. > :25:51.what is happening is Great Britain is matching the US input speed, and

:25:52. > :25:58.both are getting very good handoffs. Danny Brough dot Mike Tolbert coming

:25:59. > :26:04.to Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake, so again, just about even. -- Danny

:26:05. > :26:08.Talbot coming to Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake. This is where things

:26:09. > :26:13.change, on the anchor leg, and they are about even here at this point.

:26:14. > :26:21.Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake, just a little bit of a lead, just barely.

:26:22. > :26:26.Bolt is being caught early in the zone, because they want him to run

:26:27. > :26:32.longer to catch these guys. At this point, Christian Coleman and

:26:33. > :26:36.Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake, just about even write here, so still at this

:26:37. > :26:43.point there is really no difference. But the difference comes here, look

:26:44. > :26:46.at Christian Coleman, he starts to lean a little bit too soon,

:26:47. > :26:50.Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake, he continues to hold his form and take

:26:51. > :26:56.it through to the finish line, and that is what really want him the

:26:57. > :27:00.race. And Coleman got the brilliant silver in the individual 100m, and

:27:01. > :27:05.when we bumped into Mitchell-Blake, he said, I have had a long season

:27:06. > :27:09.too! He has been running in the same conference as him, so really

:27:10. > :27:14.impressive championships, with fourth as well. Yes, both of those

:27:15. > :27:19.guys are bad long collegiate seasons, they have ran against each

:27:20. > :27:25.other quite a bit, but I think the point is, one, Great Britain matched

:27:26. > :27:30.the US, in terms of leg speed, and had crisp and office, but also at

:27:31. > :27:33.the end, the second point is that Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake outlasted

:27:34. > :27:37.Christian Coleman and was able to bring that thing home and a victory.

:27:38. > :27:46.Very good work, and just another quick one, Michael, was the noise

:27:47. > :27:51.there, was it a surprise for the Americans to be beaten? I don't

:27:52. > :27:54.think they go into any of these championships thinking they are

:27:55. > :27:56.going to win, they think they are going to have tough competition

:27:57. > :28:02.against the Jamaicans, they know they have a history of not getting

:28:03. > :28:05.the baton around, they do not take the relay for granted at all, so I

:28:06. > :28:09.do not think that would have been a big shock to them. They are doing

:28:10. > :28:13.well in the medal table, and they wouldn't want to give it away, they

:28:14. > :28:18.will want to get it right next time. We are going to have a look at that

:28:19. > :28:21.medal table right now, looking much healthier from a British perspective

:28:22. > :28:25.after last night's two silvers and a gold. Of course, United States at

:28:26. > :28:37.the outstanding leader, 27 medals. Great Britain have moved up to sixth

:28:38. > :28:44.equal with Ethiopic, four medals in total, one more than Michael

:28:45. > :28:53.predicted. Is it one less than Colin predicted? Two! And many did you

:28:54. > :28:56.predict? One gold, you said, Colin. We will check all of our prediction

:28:57. > :29:02.is a little bit later, but it is looking a lot healthier. We have

:29:03. > :29:06.another fantastic evening of action tonight, we are going to be looking

:29:07. > :29:11.back, of course, add what has gone on in the last ten days, but still

:29:12. > :29:18.plenty of medals to come. Here is what is coming up. London 2012

:29:19. > :29:27.bronze-medallist Robbie Grabarz has lofty ambitions in the men's high

:29:28. > :29:31.jump. In-form Barshim is a strong favourite to take his first global

:29:32. > :29:35.gold in that final. Scottish duo Laura Muir and a Liz McColgan will

:29:36. > :29:42.attempt to climb the podium in a competitive conclusion to the 5000m.

:29:43. > :29:45.Kenya have not been there all conquering cells, but Hellen Obiri

:29:46. > :29:54.could take the title ahead of the Brits. Can Lynsey Sharp take a first

:29:55. > :29:58.world medal? She faces double Olympic gold-medallist Caster

:29:59. > :30:03.Semenya, who looks a runaway favourite to win a third world

:30:04. > :30:08.title. The reigning national 1500m champion,, Timothy Jerry Weir

:30:09. > :30:24.outpaces compatriots to make a mark on the global stage? The 4x4 and --

:30:25. > :30:30.4x4 and metres women will try to match the men. Can anyone stop the

:30:31. > :30:34.all conquering Americans taking a seventh consecutive world title?

:30:35. > :30:52.We kick things off with the men's high jump final. Then there is the

:30:53. > :30:57.women's discus final. Eilish McColgan and Laura Muir will battle

:30:58. > :31:07.in the 5000 metres. Then the 800 metres final, Caster Semenya is

:31:08. > :31:12.favourite for another call. Great Britain will attempt a fourth

:31:13. > :31:16.successive podium finish in the relay. The curtain comes down with

:31:17. > :31:25.the men's four times 400 metres relay final. Amongst all that we are

:31:26. > :31:35.switching from BBC Two to BBC One. One of the great characters has been

:31:36. > :31:42.this guy, and on his last night he made a stunning entrance into the

:31:43. > :31:48.stadium. It is totally about his pay grade. The danger involved. He seems

:31:49. > :31:59.to be enjoying himself and the crowd seemed to love him.

:32:00. > :32:07.I don't think he needs to be praised. He love this stuff. Whisper

:32:08. > :32:17.it quietly but he might be coming up to the studio later. We will see. We

:32:18. > :32:24.would like Usain Bolt but if he comes up that is a different matter.

:32:25. > :32:37.We don't have a cushion for him just now. Let's get out there. It is the

:32:38. > :32:50.high jump final first. The high jumpers are out.

:32:51. > :33:04.Real optimism about Robbie Grabarz. He qualified really nicely. Two

:33:05. > :33:16.metres 31 he got on the first attempt. He needs to control his

:33:17. > :33:24.speed. This is crucial. He's smooth through the curve. He could get more

:33:25. > :33:32.of an arch when he goes over the bar. He may need that to get in

:33:33. > :33:59.amongst the medals. Robbie is about to start. He will

:34:00. > :34:15.feel his way into the final. First up I mentioned this young man,

:34:16. > :34:21.second on the world's list. Very comfortable. The athletes looking to

:34:22. > :34:32.get the run-up early. The key is to not carry any failures. That is what

:34:33. > :34:43.cost Robbie Grabarz. He was fourth. Olympic medallists. Barshim, the

:34:44. > :34:49.world leader, he looked a class apart in qualification and under

:34:50. > :34:58.pressure. He's expected to take the title. Massive clearance. About as

:34:59. > :35:10.impressive as you get. Just going to have a little look at him in

:35:11. > :35:20.qualifying. Talk us through what he cleared in qualifying. I will. Good

:35:21. > :35:30.evening. Basically, his speed is critical. Look at his knee. When you

:35:31. > :35:36.plan the foot, then you will bend. He comes out of it so quickly, and

:35:37. > :35:47.then his arch over the bar is incredible. So he turns around the

:35:48. > :36:01.bar like a wheel. This is the athlete with the best pop in the

:36:02. > :36:10.competition. This is a statement. Never taking the global title.

:36:11. > :36:22.Looking really good and is going to be a handful. Can stay with him at

:36:23. > :36:36.the early heights. Robbie is capable of 2.3 seven. Watching on with Scott

:36:37. > :36:43.Simpson. His first jump coaches. We'll really hope for a clean sheet

:36:44. > :36:53.in these early heights. It's all about not having the failure. That

:36:54. > :36:56.can push you down the leaderboard. Robbie Grabarz to start his

:36:57. > :37:12.campaign, he said he felt fantastic in qualifying. Good start. That'll

:37:13. > :37:17.settle them down. I think so. That is what we want. Another athlete

:37:18. > :37:23.that could have contended from medals. All helps him. He cleared

:37:24. > :37:30.the first attempt. Walked back and gives us a smile. That's what you

:37:31. > :37:44.want. Confident athlete. Just a little settler and he can move into

:37:45. > :37:54.this as we turn our attention to Ghazal, the Syrian record-holder.

:37:55. > :38:08.232 was his record best. A lot of athletes capable of getting in

:38:09. > :38:11.amongst it. Robbie Grabarz came ninth last year to give you an idea

:38:12. > :38:18.of the number of athletes he will need to cope with. Just being

:38:19. > :38:26.introduced to start their final. The high jump is under way. Also goes

:38:27. > :38:35.clear. He's happy with that. Steve mentioned Robbie Grabarz looking to

:38:36. > :38:43.run a smooth curve. A little bit straight and that's why he travels.

:38:44. > :38:52.You are unable to convert it so you rotate on the floor. The last man to

:38:53. > :38:59.complete the opening height attempt, then it will be raised to 2.2 five.

:39:00. > :39:16.Then it will be 2.3 two. Then 2.3 five. Then beyond. First jump for

:39:17. > :39:25.him. Clearance. Nice spring. The Ukrainian Bondarenko choosing to

:39:26. > :39:31.pass this heights. That runs off the first somersault birth. All the

:39:32. > :39:49.athletes have no Harrier Jump. Bondarenko starting really well.

:39:50. > :39:54.Last night, Mo Farah ended his track career with a silver. It has been a

:39:55. > :40:03.golden career, but a silver lining. Just say good evening to you as

:40:04. > :40:14.well. Sorry. Of course, Mo Farah has been totally dominant. Last night,

:40:15. > :40:18.ended with a silver, incredible race, incredible performance, but he

:40:19. > :40:23.spoke to the press and said he had problems with certain sections and

:40:24. > :40:29.the way that he's been treated. History does not lie. What I

:40:30. > :40:39.achieved is through hard work and dedication and year after year, I

:40:40. > :40:43.find it bizarre that certain people right certain things to settle how

:40:44. > :40:53.they want the story to be. The fact that what it is. And you know I have

:40:54. > :40:58.achieved this through hard work and sometimes you guys get to me because

:40:59. > :41:07.you never write the fact, over the years I have achieved through my

:41:08. > :41:14.hard work and pain. If there was something that crossed the line, my

:41:15. > :41:25.first interview is like a broken record. Why would it keep getting

:41:26. > :41:31.brought up? It is like, I've achieved what I've achieved and

:41:32. > :41:38.you're trying to destroy it, it's like, OK. I don't think it's what

:41:39. > :41:45.anybody was expecting from Mo Farah. There is a story in the mirror that

:41:46. > :41:49.he is changing his name back to Muhammad. I don't know whether he

:41:50. > :41:53.would have behaved reacted differently had he won the race and

:41:54. > :42:00.whether it was a feeling to get some things of his chest? Was there a

:42:01. > :42:08.sentiment that had been building up inside him? It had been building for

:42:09. > :42:16.a long time. I think those accusations were made that he made

:42:17. > :42:21.decisions in how he answered those, he made the decision to not speak to

:42:22. > :42:27.the press which antagonised them. There were frustrations and he

:42:28. > :42:36.struggled to express what he's trying to say, they were disputing

:42:37. > :42:41.what he said, he says, if you don't have proof, don't make those

:42:42. > :42:47.accusations, and I guess it's kind of valid in everything. You cannot

:42:48. > :42:55.make accusations without having the proof to back it up. It needs to be

:42:56. > :42:59.there. I wonder if he'd had that conversation and then it would be

:43:00. > :43:06.gone. The silence, not talking to the press, it built up and people

:43:07. > :43:12.fill a vacuum with stuff. I know, but the athlete needs to protect his

:43:13. > :43:15.and herself. They are fragile on the track but you need to protect

:43:16. > :43:22.yourself to do your job. It's very hard. When you are discredited by

:43:23. > :43:31.the media for allegations that frustration builds up and you create

:43:32. > :43:39.a bigger amount of armour around user you don't get penetrated and he

:43:40. > :43:44.needs to stay focused. When he pulled out of the Diamond League,

:43:45. > :43:48.everybody reacted so badly to that. He wanted to give himself a buffer

:43:49. > :43:54.and say, listen, leave me alone, I've got a tough task and I need to

:43:55. > :43:57.stay in my lane and in my zone. Were you surprised that he came out the

:43:58. > :44:03.morning after winning silver and had that dialogue? A little bit

:44:04. > :44:13.surprised. I agree with both Paul and Denise, -- Paula and Denise, you

:44:14. > :44:18.need to be focused on what you're doing, and he admitted, got

:44:19. > :44:28.frustrated. I think he did the right thing by staying away. What he needs

:44:29. > :44:31.to realise, and I can understand why he would be frustrated, there's no

:44:32. > :44:39.of anything yet while the investigation into Salazar

:44:40. > :44:43.continues. He said, until you find something, don't accuse me. What he

:44:44. > :44:48.needs to understand is with the sport being as it is right now, with

:44:49. > :44:54.all the things that have happened, it is not enough any more to say

:44:55. > :45:02.that you have never touched positive. He needs to understand

:45:03. > :45:07.that the media will take that and say, you may be getting away with

:45:08. > :45:09.something. He needs to say, investigator, but don't accuse me.

:45:10. > :45:15.That's when I draw the line. That's what he needs to understand. He's

:45:16. > :45:18.got frustrated and it came out today and it probably wasn't the best time

:45:19. > :45:27.for him to discuss that and to address that in the way that he did.

:45:28. > :45:34.That will overshadow his last race here and his last performance here.

:45:35. > :45:40.The vulnerability and the emotion that he showed today is clearly

:45:41. > :45:45.something that has been carrying around and not enjoyed. He wants,

:45:46. > :45:49.you saw him last night, even with his silver he went round and gave

:45:50. > :45:54.himself to anybody who wanted him in that crowd. Being with people and

:45:55. > :46:01.the joy that he's given people. It is what has fuelled him. That side

:46:02. > :46:07.of his life has been a cause of great frustration.

:46:08. > :46:13.Yeah, he is not naturally at ease talking to the media, and that

:46:14. > :46:17.started this off, and Michael is right, he has not answered the

:46:18. > :46:21.questions, and with everything that our sport has gone through, we have

:46:22. > :46:25.to be open about that, we have to talk about things, and we have to

:46:26. > :46:30.answer the questions. Otherwise, it builds up, and the media also came

:46:31. > :46:34.to a crescendo, I think, and they were being pushed to ask these

:46:35. > :46:40.questions, pushing themselves. He was tired, he was frustrated, and

:46:41. > :46:44.maybe he hadn't slept much last night, and I don't think it could

:46:45. > :46:47.have been avoided, because when you win silver, finishing your career,

:46:48. > :46:51.he had to do that press conference, they were always going to ask those

:46:52. > :46:55.questions, but something could have been done in the build-up so that

:46:56. > :46:59.the access to him could have been done in a way that wouldn't have

:47:00. > :47:07.trod all that energy away, but it is very difficult to do that, because

:47:08. > :47:13.Denise is right, it is difficult to be defending himself all the time.

:47:14. > :47:17.Brendan has described him as a ruthless winning machine, ten global

:47:18. > :47:21.golds, an incredible athlete who has achieved so much in the last six or

:47:22. > :47:28.seven years, given so much joy to so many people, and for that we are all

:47:29. > :47:36.very grateful. He is boxed, he has got no room, Mo

:47:37. > :47:40.Farah fights for the silver. The greatest champions, one day it comes

:47:41. > :47:45.to an end. The chapter is closed. It has been incredible, from everywhere

:47:46. > :47:51.around the world, I want to thank everyone who has supported me.

:47:52. > :47:58.# Thank you for the days # Those endless days, those sacred

:47:59. > :48:07.days you gave me... # What a performance from Mo Farah!

:48:08. > :48:10.# I won't forget a single day, believe me

:48:11. > :48:14.# Days I'll remember all my life # Days when you can't see wrong from

:48:15. > :48:19.right # You took my love

:48:20. > :48:33.# But then I knew that fairly soon you'd leave me... #

:48:34. > :48:42.It's cold! -- gold! The double Olympic champion! My words cannot do

:48:43. > :48:49.justice to how I feel. # Thank you for the days

:48:50. > :48:56.# Those endless days, those sacred days you gave me

:48:57. > :49:05.# I'm thinking of the days... # This is world domination for Farah!

:49:06. > :49:15.He is sprinting for gold, he is running for greatness!

:49:16. > :49:23.Mo Farah is the world champion again!

:49:24. > :49:41.They succumb to the inevitable, bow to his superiority! The

:49:42. > :49:54.double-double! In front of his home crowd, the city

:49:55. > :50:04.he knows so well, the city that he loves.

:50:05. > :50:19.He is a one-man world superpower, it is gold for Farah! Incredible!

:50:20. > :50:23.He has just been incredible, he has given us so many great days, and we

:50:24. > :50:28.said it in Moscow, during Beijing, and we said it in Rio, you never

:50:29. > :50:32.want to take him for granted, because he made winning look like a

:50:33. > :50:36.habit, and it became a habit, and we have been thinking a lot about him

:50:37. > :50:40.over the last 12 hours or so, last night highlighted that this is not

:50:41. > :50:44.anything that is just given to you, these are ruthless athletes who have

:50:45. > :50:48.all been trying to take his crown, topple him for six years, and it

:50:49. > :50:52.took three of them last night with a concerted effort, and they finally

:50:53. > :50:57.worked out a way to get him. It took them a long time, as you say, he is

:50:58. > :51:04.a master tactician, whatever Al is you can say about Mo Farah, you can

:51:05. > :51:08.throw everything at him, he gets it right when he needs to, and nine

:51:09. > :51:13.times out of ten, he puts self in the right situation, and he has even

:51:14. > :51:18.been able to get out of those times when he puts himself in the wrong

:51:19. > :51:25.situation. Last night he knew he was boxed, but he kept on fighting, he

:51:26. > :51:28.didn't just throw it away, just run in, he kept running to the end of

:51:29. > :51:33.the line to see if he was going to be able to get there. He wasn't, and

:51:34. > :51:37.he made a tactical error, but he was so tired coming into and, as you

:51:38. > :51:41.said, and they probably knew what they needed to do but they weren't

:51:42. > :51:47.able to do it. Last night, the plan came together, helped a little bit

:51:48. > :51:53.by the fact that he was tired. He is going to be rested, because this

:51:54. > :51:55.time next week we will be in Birmingham for the Diamond League,

:51:56. > :51:58.there will be plenty of world champions there, Mo Farah will be

:51:59. > :52:03.running on the track for the last time in the UK. In a short period of

:52:04. > :52:08.time, a lot of women will be out on that track looking to win medals in

:52:09. > :52:12.the 5000m, and it is going to be hotly contested, a race that Laura

:52:13. > :52:15.Muir will be, for the first time in a major championships, navigating

:52:16. > :52:20.their way through the field, and an familiar distance for her. We see

:52:21. > :52:25.her more regularly over 1500m, but she will have to have the challenge

:52:26. > :52:35.of Hellen Obiri of Kenya, amongst others, who has beaten heard this

:52:36. > :52:40.season on the track, Hassan of the Netherlands, who she came up against

:52:41. > :52:44.in the 1500m, and Eilish McColgan, who you previously saw running the

:52:45. > :52:49.steeplechase, but she has had a very successful, focused, injury free

:52:50. > :52:54.year and got into this 5000m final with a great run in the semifinals.

:52:55. > :52:59.If you are a fan of athletics for a long time, you will remember 1981,

:53:00. > :53:06.when her mum won a gold medal in the 10,000m.

:53:07. > :53:12.# Sometimes I feel like throwing my hands up in the air

:53:13. > :53:17.# I know I can count on you... # Now McColgan starts to break it

:53:18. > :53:21.up..., is this going to be the break that means the world title and the

:53:22. > :53:27.gold medal? Now she has done the job and just has to hang in. Any worries

:53:28. > :53:30.about the tactics employed have disappeared, this crowd of over

:53:31. > :53:40.50,000 realising now they are watching a very special run. Liz

:53:41. > :53:50.McColgan, 27. A mother in the last few months, her daughter Eilish not

:53:51. > :53:55.here with, but this has been a display of confidence, judgment,

:53:56. > :54:02.self belief, and this is Britain's first world champion of these 1991

:54:03. > :54:06.Games. For me, David, that was the greatest run in the history of

:54:07. > :54:14.British distance running. The Commonwealth champion in 1986, in

:54:15. > :54:16.Auckland in 1990, Olympic medallist in Seoul, and now the champion of

:54:17. > :54:28.the world. And Liz is alongside me, what are

:54:29. > :54:32.your overriding memories of that crowning moment in 1981? You said, I

:54:33. > :54:37.can't be anything about it! Surely in the last few seconds you have got

:54:38. > :54:42.some wonderful emotions and memories about that. Or Lyra member about the

:54:43. > :54:46.race, it was so intense, I was so focused on what I was doing, but I

:54:47. > :54:53.did a lot of hard work going into it. -- all I remember. On the night,

:54:54. > :54:59.just the jubilation takes over, and you tend to have a memory laps, I am

:55:00. > :55:03.doing 25 laps, I should remember some of it, but when the Ethiopian

:55:04. > :55:10.due will try to go in front of me, I remember saying to myself, no, you

:55:11. > :55:14.are not doing it, I know I won, I know my feet were burning, I

:55:15. > :55:18.couldn't wait to get my spikes off, but that was probably about it. You

:55:19. > :55:25.went on to win Sports Personality of the Year, you know that so many

:55:26. > :55:31.British athletes, Mo Farah also lost, and I want to ask you about

:55:32. > :55:36.his race last night, it didn't go exactly to plan, but you know

:55:37. > :55:40.everything he has done for British distance track racing, his legacy

:55:41. > :55:47.will not be tainted after that result. No, you cannot taint Mo, he

:55:48. > :55:50.has won so many medals at the event, but it is good for the event to move

:55:51. > :55:55.on, so when you get good competition, the way that the race

:55:56. > :56:02.whence tactically, it is good for our sport, and we are always looking

:56:03. > :56:06.for new champions, and Mo has been a new ambassador, but now we need to

:56:07. > :56:11.find the new Mo and the new Usain Bolt, so it was the beginning of a

:56:12. > :56:15.new era as well, we are looking for the next superstar of athletics. I

:56:16. > :56:22.think it is only right that I should talk to you about your girl, Eilish

:56:23. > :56:27.is preparing to run tonight, take the coach away, be a mum, how are

:56:28. > :56:31.you feeling? I am really nervous, I have never been this nevers before,

:56:32. > :56:36.and the reason I am nervous is because, as a coach, I know she is

:56:37. > :56:40.in really good shape, and I want her to go out and get the result that

:56:41. > :56:44.she deserves. Sometimes you need a lot to do that, it is not just about

:56:45. > :56:50.being in the best shape, everything has got to come together for you,

:56:51. > :56:53.and for Eilish, she has had such a roller-coaster ride, a lot more than

:56:54. > :56:59.a lot of other people, and I am really proud to see her here now as

:57:00. > :57:05.a mother and a coach, it is the culmination of very many years of

:57:06. > :57:08.being consistently trying to get there, nothing special, just

:57:09. > :57:14.believing in herself. I see tonight as the start of a new era for her.

:57:15. > :57:17.She is not going to win it, the two African girls are going to and I

:57:18. > :57:25.lately peeled, but it is about gaining the experience. -- are going

:57:26. > :57:30.to annihilate the field. There is a third spot that about seven girls

:57:31. > :57:36.can grab, so who knows? She has an occasion to enjoy, as do you, we

:57:37. > :57:40.have kept you too long, off you go, go and support your daughter!

:57:41. > :57:50.Probably a good time for us to get inside and enjoy this 10,000m.

:57:51. > :57:54.5000m, it is coming up in about ten minutes, and she is honest in a

:57:55. > :57:59.assessment of this race, because it is stacked, it is going to be very

:58:00. > :58:06.difficult for them to push their way through that field. It is a loaded

:58:07. > :58:12.field, and she is right that it is wide open, but sadly I think it is

:58:13. > :58:21.beyond the medals, cause you have got Ayana, the fastest World

:58:22. > :58:34.Championships time 5000m is the second half of her 10,000m, so she

:58:35. > :58:40.is in outstanding form. With her and Obiri, and Hassan, she is running

:58:41. > :58:43.against her personal best. Let's get outside, the high jump competition

:58:44. > :58:47.is hotting up, although the hedgehog might have something to say about

:58:48. > :58:52.that, Steve Backley. Hasn't had a go, has he?

:58:53. > :58:59.He would do well, wouldn't he?! Hero entertaining the crowd, as are the

:59:00. > :59:06.high jumpers and the discus throwers, the last two field events.

:59:07. > :59:12.Barshim has been the star, 2.25 is the new heights, and that is just

:59:13. > :59:18.gravity defying. Well, he came in at the first sight, that was a bit of a

:59:19. > :59:27.surprise, Bondarenko chose to pass, Barshim, two jumps, two clearances,

:59:28. > :59:38.ten centimetres at least, that is 2.25, remember. So let's keep an eye

:59:39. > :59:45.on Barshim. Danil Lysenko, a young neutral athlete, just 20 years of

:59:46. > :59:50.age. Talking to Robbie Grabarz' coach, this is a man they really

:59:51. > :59:57.rate, and that is why. Slight wobble there, not quite as impressive as

:59:58. > :59:58.Barshim's, but an improving athlete in a championships, always a

:59:59. > :00:16.handful, perfect card so far. 2.34 he has jumped this year. So

:00:17. > :00:21.Robbie Grabarz getting ready for the height that caught him out last

:00:22. > :00:28.year, he failed ones at this height en route to clearing 2.33 in Rio,

:00:29. > :00:39.and that cost him a medal. So Robbie Grabarz, first attempt, 2.25. Oh

:00:40. > :00:41.yes! That is more like it. Big thumbs up, big cheer from the crowd,

:00:42. > :00:47.the perfect start for Robbie. That puts Robbie in joint fourth

:00:48. > :01:08.place. That might be enough to win a medal.

:01:09. > :01:17.It was five years ago, he shared a medal. Runs that curve. Get his

:01:18. > :01:31.fruits on the button, RP pops. Gets some free energy. At the other end

:01:32. > :01:39.of the stadium, Perkovic. A big favourite to take the title. Double

:01:40. > :01:44.Olympic champion. 27 years of age. The longest 25 years. That's why

:01:45. > :01:52.she's going in at a massive favourite to throw her way to a gold

:01:53. > :02:00.medal. She already leads with 69.30 metres. Way out in front. Second

:02:01. > :02:06.round. It is on 70 metres. It is over. It is closing in on that

:02:07. > :02:27.Championship record. Perkovic, as good as they've ever

:02:28. > :02:37.been. Stamping her authority in the lead.

:02:38. > :02:50.Bondarenko in some trouble. It doesn't look good. He's really under

:02:51. > :03:01.pressure. Look at that. Wasn't expecting that. It didn't look good

:03:02. > :03:09.at all. He had appeared yesterday but he's shaved off. That leaves him

:03:10. > :03:14.ninth overall. Good clearance but he's now passed 2.2 nine. He will

:03:15. > :03:27.take the next jump at 2.3 two. First track event of the final

:03:28. > :04:04.evening. Raced Laura Muir in the 1500 metres,

:04:05. > :04:14.Hassan. There is the fool line up for you. A very good Ethiopian. She

:04:15. > :04:29.may be a name that we will get to know.

:04:30. > :04:41.Shannon Rowbury of the USA is talking up her chances of a medal.

:04:42. > :04:52.She attempted the double in Rio de Janiero and it did not pay off. How

:04:53. > :04:57.tired is she after that incredible performance where she won by 46

:04:58. > :05:01.seconds, completely pulled the field apart? With very good and

:05:02. > :05:15.qualification. Teferi certainly capable of getting

:05:16. > :05:22.in amongst the medals here. Silver-medallist at the last World

:05:23. > :05:28.Championships. Will be a big cheer from Laura Muir. So close in the

:05:29. > :05:45.1500 metres to a medal. Occasion. Helen Obiri, having the best season

:05:46. > :05:54.of her life, concentrating solely on this. Eilish McColgan, so close to

:05:55. > :06:02.going under 15 minutes in qualification. A big thumbs up as

:06:03. > :06:09.she looks in great spirits and why not? Great test ahead for her. And

:06:10. > :06:17.this young lady, the junior champion, has a great future ahead

:06:18. > :06:36.of her on the track. Molly Huddle of the USA. Did make it through as the

:06:37. > :06:44.fastest loser. Laura Muir and Eilish McColgan carry the hopes of Great

:06:45. > :06:57.Britain here. It will be a tough race. The question is what tactics

:06:58. > :07:05.the canyons will employ, whether Ayana makes a fast run. Forced to

:07:06. > :07:18.wait whilst the 5000 metres gets under way. Standing at the back of

:07:19. > :07:29.the sector. This is the height he cleared to take bronze. That's his

:07:30. > :07:37.most important jump so far. He's still in a good position. Only one

:07:38. > :07:50.person has passed. Goes into second place. The high jump final, we will

:07:51. > :08:07.need to watch 5000. They might not get there by that point. It is like

:08:08. > :08:17.a bicycle race. How slow can you go west-2-mac the race began and it is

:08:18. > :08:29.11 and a half. The overall time will be affected by that. I was going to

:08:30. > :08:37.set it up in context of what she did in the other race. The Championship

:08:38. > :08:51.marker set their own. In that 10,000 metres, the second half, she ran

:08:52. > :08:59.14.2 four. She is a controversial figure, Ayana. Eilish McColgan has

:09:00. > :09:03.been struggling to understand it and questioning some of the protocols

:09:04. > :09:12.around Ethiopian drug testing. That is something to be discussed. Ayana

:09:13. > :09:22.is certainly taking it into a new area.

:09:23. > :09:28.Difficult to place in terms of what we've seen before over the years. It

:09:29. > :09:39.has not always gone her way in the 5000. First and second place today

:09:40. > :09:45.in the 5000 metres, it's great to see these young Scottish athletes,

:09:46. > :09:58.Liz McColgan's daughter and Laura Muir together, growing up in the

:09:59. > :10:07.sport. It is great to see them and it would be wonderful to see how far

:10:08. > :10:24.they can get up the field. We have seen them very close to medal.

:10:25. > :10:38.Both laps were so slow and it has not get any quicker. The European

:10:39. > :10:44.who ran for Bahrain... They've completed three laps. I have a

:10:45. > :10:49.feeling that is the last we will see the slow laps and now the race is

:10:50. > :10:59.really getting moving. The fuel is stretch out with Eilish McColgan and

:11:00. > :11:08.Laura Muir near the back. The favourites. Ayana leading from

:11:09. > :11:13.Obiri. We will see the British athletes coming through. Going

:11:14. > :11:20.gradually, when you respond to a fast burst like Molly Huddle has put

:11:21. > :11:26.in, you should do it gradually, not quickly. They're now striving out

:11:27. > :11:35.and really moving and this will be interesting. Remember the first

:11:36. > :11:44.laps, literally significantly faster. Almost world-record pace.

:11:45. > :11:55.Tells you what kind of speed they will run at. 65 seconds, that is

:11:56. > :12:07.really quick. They knew this was going to happen. There's a second

:12:08. > :12:21.group with African contingent. There was a sense that there would be a

:12:22. > :12:24.second group. Hassan wanted to make those quick choices. Sadly the

:12:25. > :12:29.second group will probably do the work together and hope that one of

:12:30. > :12:32.the front two falls apart. The talent of that second group is

:12:33. > :12:38.strong enough and good enough that they can work quickly. Hassan, the

:12:39. > :12:49.only quicker, has managed to get in there. Eilish McColgan and Laura

:12:50. > :12:59.Muir are behind. Beer is the second. Two Ethiopians, two canyons and San

:13:00. > :13:05.-- Hassan. Eilish McColgan trying to make a move on the outside. As she

:13:06. > :13:20.recovered from the exertions? Looking strong. It hurts, that

:13:21. > :13:28.contrast. However good a runner you are, you cannot work to that. It is

:13:29. > :13:35.on a level like that. They are trying to get back towards the

:13:36. > :13:46.second group. Laura Muir will try to go with that. Breaking away from

:13:47. > :13:52.this group with 2.4 eight. The world record is 40 minutes and 11 seconds.

:13:53. > :14:01.The last two lapse is 13.4 five. Body has ever been to run that back.

:14:02. > :14:06.The body has ever broken 14. It had to happen. She had to slow down. Is

:14:07. > :14:10.she recovering from the 10,000 metres or has she got enough stamina

:14:11. > :14:26.to keep going crystal mark -- keep going? You think, what is going on

:14:27. > :14:39.here. The group is tracking another group. The two favourites are miles

:14:40. > :14:44.clear. They've done a fantastic job of looking that grew back. They will

:14:45. > :14:52.be delighted that the group has slowed down. There is no question

:14:53. > :15:06.that the front ones are away. Now there is a big group. Sat and

:15:07. > :15:15.watched. Laura Muir and Eilish McColgan have had to work a little

:15:16. > :15:28.bit harder. The neutral athletes, just 28 years of age, Lysenko.

:15:29. > :15:37.Everybody else carries a failure. Including deadly metal he gets it!

:15:38. > :15:41.Two men clear, one of the second attempt. Looks as though it is going

:15:42. > :15:55.to be sorting out the medals here. A really big jump for Robbie

:15:56. > :16:04.Grabarz, second attempt at 2.29. Just clipped that! Two fouls, he

:16:05. > :16:14.will have one more try. He stays in bronze medal position with two

:16:15. > :16:19.others, oh, just his shorts taking that off. A little more lift, come

:16:20. > :16:27.on, Robbie, this is the height you need.

:16:28. > :16:36.Well, they are coming around now with four laps to go, just over four

:16:37. > :16:40.laps to go, a massive gap to the field, but we expected Ayana and

:16:41. > :16:45.Obiri to contest the gold medal, but what about the bronze medal? A whole

:16:46. > :16:49.bunch of athletes including Laura Muir and Eilish McColgan are trying

:16:50. > :16:57.to hold onto that second group, and Severn Hassan has decided to try to

:16:58. > :17:06.break that up, too many people here, I want to get rid of a few of them.

:17:07. > :17:13.Krumins has been in great form, surprised that Gidey cannot keep up

:17:14. > :17:16.with that. As we watch the two British athletes working their way

:17:17. > :17:23.through the field, it is classic distance running confrontation. The

:17:24. > :17:30.world record-holder over 10,000m, the 10,000m champion, Ayana, another

:17:31. > :17:34.68 seconds lap, that is world record pace, they have been running faster

:17:35. > :17:37.than world record pace, and the intermediate splits are going to be

:17:38. > :17:47.staggering. That is the chasing group, there is Hassan and the

:17:48. > :17:50.runner from the Netherlands. In that group, the third athlete, Hassan,

:17:51. > :17:56.she ran the 1500m, and just for a moment I thought that Laura Muir's

:17:57. > :18:00.group was going to close up with that, but she is finding this, her

:18:01. > :18:10.first serious international championship 5000m, she is finding

:18:11. > :18:17.it pretty hard. Three laps to go for the group chasing for the bronze

:18:18. > :18:21.medal, Shannon Rowbury, Laura Muir are another 15 metres behind, Eilish

:18:22. > :18:31.McColgan and other 15 behind them, but these are the two in front, a

:18:32. > :18:36.lot of these athletes would be happy to do this pace for just 2000m and

:18:37. > :18:40.forget the rest of the laps. They are slowing but they are a long way

:18:41. > :18:47.ahead. They are slowing because those intermediate laps were savage,

:18:48. > :18:52.unprecedented distance running in the middle of the race. Ayana,

:18:53. > :18:59.Ramallah what she did in the 5000m in Rio, she ran a really fast time

:19:00. > :19:06.for the second half of the 10,000m, but she found Kenyan company in the

:19:07. > :19:11.person of Vivian Cheruiyot. Is she going to win the double? Mo Farah

:19:12. > :19:18.found the double difficult. In the second group, Kipkemboi, Hassan,

:19:19. > :19:24.then a gap, then another gap, but Laura Muir is running well through

:19:25. > :19:30.the field, this is a baptism of fire for her, remember, she has already

:19:31. > :19:33.done her specialist event and almost got a bronze medal, finishing

:19:34. > :19:37.fourth, and now she is tackling this one. She looks like she has

:19:38. > :19:43.recovered from that heat, Steve. Yes, Eilish McColgan is about 12

:19:44. > :19:48.metres behind Laura Muir, trying to close the gap. It looks as though

:19:49. > :19:51.the three who are well clear for the battle for bronze have got it

:19:52. > :19:59.between them, not much happening behind them as they can -- continue

:20:00. > :20:04.to pull away. This time they will hear the bell, Ayana must know that

:20:05. > :20:09.Hellen Obiri has got a vicious kick, a very good 1500m runner. Hellen

:20:10. > :20:15.Obiri may well have been able to contest the 1500m here, she backed

:20:16. > :20:21.herself to come and run with Ayana, to chase Ayana, and then to add kick

:20:22. > :20:33.Ayana. They enter the last lap, and Sifan Hassan in a battle with

:20:34. > :20:37.Teferi. Has Ayana done enough? There goes Obiri, look at the speed of

:20:38. > :20:48.that, we saw this in the Anniversary Games, look at her now to Ayana.

:20:49. > :20:52.Superb running from Obiri, she waited, she knew what Ayana was

:20:53. > :20:57.going to do, she knew she would try to break in the middle of the race,

:20:58. > :21:01.but Obiri has been in superb form, the best I have ever seen from the

:21:02. > :21:05.Olympic silver-medallist, and now she is going to become the world

:21:06. > :21:13.champion. Hellen Obiri sprinting home for Kenya. It is going to be an

:21:14. > :21:19.emphatic win for her, look at this last lap from Hellen Obiri, gold to

:21:20. > :21:27.Kenya! Ayana will add the silver medal to her gold from the 10,000m,

:21:28. > :21:32.look at the delight, Sifan Hassan has won a bronze medal, she cannot

:21:33. > :21:37.believe it. Laura Muir has run brilliantly to come in sixth place,

:21:38. > :21:44.I think, very strong, look at the time for Laura as well, about 14.54,

:21:45. > :21:48.something like that, Eilish McColgan just outside 15 minutes, just

:21:49. > :21:55.crossing the line. Then the two Americans, or three Americans.

:21:56. > :22:00.Kenya, you know, Brendan, it is always Kenya versus Ethiopia, but

:22:01. > :22:05.Hellen Obiri is an experienced runner, and she has waited for this

:22:06. > :22:09.moment, because she knew that Ayana was in the sort of shape that she

:22:10. > :22:13.could maybe run at that world record pace, but for how long? Sifan

:22:14. > :22:18.Hassan, delighted for her, the two British athletes, well done, Laura

:22:19. > :22:21.Muir, Eilish, tough race, was always going to be hard, and they have

:22:22. > :22:27.acquitted themselves very well indeed. Laura Muir ran an excellent

:22:28. > :22:31.race today, Eilish McColgan was hurting in the later stages but

:22:32. > :22:36.stuck to her task, sixth-place for Laura Muir, in that company, is

:22:37. > :22:40.exceptional, her first major championship at 5000m, and I think

:22:41. > :22:46.one day this young lady is going to win a gold medal at a very

:22:47. > :22:52.significant level, 5000m as well as 1500m. She has learned from these

:22:53. > :22:55.races, Obiri was the athlete who tackled her at the Anniversary

:22:56. > :22:59.Games, and that was the warning to Laura Muir, so she is dealing with

:23:00. > :23:03.top-level international athletics, and the way that race was won,

:23:04. > :23:08.Steve, it really was a baptism of fire, but what a great champion,

:23:09. > :23:13.what a great performance, following the leader Ayana as far as she

:23:14. > :23:17.could, then a 60 seconds last lap at that sort of pace was absolutely

:23:18. > :23:27.staggering. We saw true world-class distance running today.

:23:28. > :23:45.So a really big moment for Robbie Grabarz, 2.29, he has had two fouls,

:23:46. > :23:57.and he has to go clear. There is is -- his coach, Fuzz Khan. So Robbie

:23:58. > :24:02.Grabarz, how much do you want a medal here? He said he would be

:24:03. > :24:08.disappointed to not take a medal, it is the only medal he doesn't have,

:24:09. > :24:12.he has Olympic bronze, European gold, European and world indoor

:24:13. > :24:19.silvers, never a world medal, and he has to go clear at this fight to

:24:20. > :24:27.stay involved in this competition. Four have already gone clear now.

:24:28. > :24:36.Not to be on this occasion. Grab ours, three consecutive fouls, coach

:24:37. > :24:39.cannot believe it. -- Grabarz. Neither can I, fifth place, really

:24:40. > :24:46.disappointing. Great performance, he has come back from so much, knee

:24:47. > :24:54.surgery, there was a point where we thought he might have retired, so

:24:55. > :25:00.great athlete, great Briton, I am choking up a little bit. I feel

:25:01. > :25:04.really bad for him. Yeah, emotional time for Grabarz, just seeing his

:25:05. > :25:08.last failure at that height, a superb competitor, and that is why

:25:09. > :25:13.we were so optimistic for him. His coach knew that, but it wasn't meant

:25:14. > :25:20.to be this evening in the world final. Grabarz fifth at the moment,

:25:21. > :25:32.but Bondarenko past, probably will end up in sixth place. No shame, but

:25:33. > :25:43.I know he would have expected more. And here comes Obiri, a 60 second

:25:44. > :25:47.last lap following Ayana, then taking off and running like a true

:25:48. > :25:52.champion, enjoying those moments, and so she should. The London

:25:53. > :25:56.Stadium is a lucky one for her, exceptional win. Really, really fast

:25:57. > :26:19.last kilometre. STUDIO: I am delighted to say we're

:26:20. > :26:24.four visitors to the studio, none other than the women's 4x100m

:26:25. > :26:30.silver-medallist, wonderful to have you here.

:26:31. > :26:36.Resplendent with your silver medals, the smiles on your faces! Have you

:26:37. > :26:41.stopped smiling since last night? Even standing on the podium, I could

:26:42. > :26:46.feel my cheeks shaking from smiling so hard, I am really embracing this

:26:47. > :26:49.moment! And the home crowd last night, they absolutely love your

:26:50. > :26:54.performance, and then today they came out, it was packed for your

:26:55. > :26:59.medal ceremony. Amazing, honestly, when we got to watch the boys, it

:27:00. > :27:03.was electric. When you went out, you had such a brilliant qualifying, you

:27:04. > :27:06.looked so good, we were all really pleased that there was a packed

:27:07. > :27:09.house in the morning, because we felt that you are dealt with that

:27:10. > :27:15.expectation, what was the difference when you came out at night? Oh, it

:27:16. > :27:19.was even more are electric, the crowd was louder, we did feel, OK,

:27:20. > :27:24.we can actually do something here, so we had that pressure, but we were

:27:25. > :27:32.confident and relaxed. And of course those brilliant entrances, Dina, you

:27:33. > :27:36.didn't do too much with yours, does it add to the element of it being a

:27:37. > :27:42.performance? I think it is, because we were all dolled up with our

:27:43. > :27:46.make-up, we are here to perform on the track, but you want to come and

:27:47. > :27:51.do your nation proud, so we go out and do the best job that we possibly

:27:52. > :27:55.can. And to move up from bronze in Rio to the silver medal position is

:27:56. > :28:00.great, because it shows the investment in time and training, the

:28:01. > :28:05.whole GB squad has put into relays is paying dividends. We definitely

:28:06. > :28:09.worked very hard here, we had a few niggles, but we knew how to put it

:28:10. > :28:14.together when it mattered. So much trust with each other. Most

:28:15. > :28:18.definitely, we have become a lot closer, given the fact that we all

:28:19. > :28:22.went to our first Olympics together, and we came away with a bronze

:28:23. > :28:26.medal, so coming here again this year was, we are like sisters, we

:28:27. > :28:29.have gone through so much, trained extremely hard, so we are really

:28:30. > :28:34.proud of being able to stick together and win as a team, and as a

:28:35. > :28:39.family, it feels like. And you pave the way, you showed that it is

:28:40. > :28:43.possible with this amazing stadium and the amazing crowd, and the men

:28:44. > :28:47.came out, perhaps with not as much expectation as you guys, and they

:28:48. > :28:52.smashed it, and you watching them was a wonderful scene. We didn't

:28:53. > :28:56.realise we were being filmed! We just remember standing there, and

:28:57. > :29:01.they said, do you want to do your interviews before or after the boys?

:29:02. > :29:04.We thought we would do them before, but we were screaming and willing

:29:05. > :29:09.them on, and to see them do that was incredible. They have trained so

:29:10. > :29:14.hard, so much talent in that squad, yeah, we were very excited! I think

:29:15. > :29:20.you have probably had about two hours asleep. Less! She is the only

:29:21. > :29:29.one that can sleep! Have you had any time to party at all? No! No! That

:29:30. > :29:34.I'm come, I won't keep you anymore, I know have probably got a week of

:29:35. > :29:41.commitments. -- that time will come. Thank you so much for that moment,

:29:42. > :29:45.the nation is so proud. Thank you. The sky is looking beautiful over

:29:46. > :29:50.the London Stadium, it is a gorgeous evening here, we have so much great

:29:51. > :29:54.action still to come, the high jump competition is hotting up, the

:29:55. > :30:01.women's 800m is coming your way, the men's 1500m, and of course the 4x400

:30:02. > :30:03.metres relays are coming up very shortly on BBC One.
