:00:19. > :00:23.This is world domination by Mo Farah.

:00:24. > :00:30.Michael Johnson storming away to another Gold Medal.

:00:31. > :00:35.Magnificent, Carl Lewis, that is history in the making!

:00:36. > :00:46.Jessica Ennis Hill is back on top of the world. A new world record.

:00:47. > :01:11.Champion of the world! Usain Bolt!

:01:12. > :01:20.In front of his home crowd, in the city he knows so well and the city

:01:21. > :01:32.he loves, the track that set him on this brilliant journey. It has never

:01:33. > :01:40.been as quick as this, it has never been as hard as this! This is

:01:41. > :01:48.phenomenal racing! The British best. With his heart pounding beneath it.

:01:49. > :02:02.He is a one-man world superpower, it is gold for Mo Farah.

:02:03. > :02:08.One of the things that separates the all-time greats from the rest is

:02:09. > :02:12.their ability to deliver when it matters most. We witnessed that in

:02:13. > :02:14.spine tingling form last night thanks to Mo Farah and stagnate, it

:02:15. > :02:33.is the turn of this man. -- tonight. Usain Bolt, of Jamaica. Usain Bolt

:02:34. > :02:37.is the world junior champion. It is going to be gold for Jamaica!

:02:38. > :02:41.Usain Bolt is the Olympic champion. He has done it again, a new

:02:42. > :02:51.world-record! 9.5. It is going to be gold. The

:02:52. > :02:56.champion becomes a legend! Unbeatable, unsurpassable!

:02:57. > :03:02.Usain Bolt, three times World Champion!

:03:03. > :03:06.Magnificent seven, the Odyssey continues!

:03:07. > :03:19.He has saved this title, he has saved his reputation. He may have

:03:20. > :03:29.even saved the sport! One last time.

:03:30. > :03:36.What a night it is set to be in the London Stadium in The Queen

:03:37. > :03:42.Elizabeth Park. Des two and Usain Bolt night. The final championship

:03:43. > :03:47.of his career. He has got the semifinals and we hope the final at

:03:48. > :03:51.9:45 p:m., the man's 100m vinyl, you do not want to miss it. Incredible

:03:52. > :03:56.atmosphere building here and IM privileged to be part of the

:03:57. > :04:00.sell-out crowd here, because everybody knows they will see

:04:01. > :04:06.something special, it is that man Justin Gatlin is, is he going to

:04:07. > :04:12.cause the upset? Not many can. Usain Bolt has seen the challenges of his

:04:13. > :04:14.career and he always runs them down. They bombed into each other on the

:04:15. > :04:19.track inevitably and somebody was more keen to say hello than the

:04:20. > :04:24.other! That is the way friendships and rivalries go! Usain Bolt never

:04:25. > :04:28.seems to really let anybody get under his skin and he had this

:04:29. > :04:35.incredible run of people coming at him. We have all enjoyed watching

:04:36. > :04:41.those rivalries, but somehow, he has bounced them off. Yes, he just has

:04:42. > :04:44.that confidence. It is not as if he has come out of nowhere, he has been

:04:45. > :04:49.in the sport so many years from junior level right the way to the

:04:50. > :04:53.finishing part of his career. I think that confidence he has and

:04:54. > :04:56.enjoyment he has for competing and being in front of a big crowd and

:04:57. > :05:01.performing the way he does, he carries that into every event. Said

:05:02. > :05:05.last night, Jess, it is about knowing when the time is right to

:05:06. > :05:08.finish your career, when you are not enjoying competing as much and he is

:05:09. > :05:13.getting to that point because it was a struggle to get to the line in

:05:14. > :05:17.Rio. I imagine on this the final day, the emotions inside must be

:05:18. > :05:22.just, the butterflies and anticipation and excitement. It must

:05:23. > :05:28.be huge. Just getting yourself ready for a race when his body is getting

:05:29. > :05:32.tired and it was a bit older, he is struggling to hold it together and

:05:33. > :05:34.to stay healthy in the season, getting ready for a big and

:05:35. > :05:39.important race like a World Championship final is huge, but when

:05:40. > :05:44.you know it is your last race and you so publicly stated that, it has

:05:45. > :05:50.got to be at the emotions will come out afterwards. Before that, it is

:05:51. > :05:54.the same showman, the same building it up, involving the crowd, any

:05:55. > :05:58.emotions will come out may be on the rostrum when he has crossed the line

:05:59. > :06:03.and not before. There was certainly in motion here when we met as one of

:06:04. > :06:09.the most incredible 10,000m races ever in a championship final, Mo

:06:10. > :06:13.Farah was going for his tenth championship gold and he is on his

:06:14. > :06:21.way to a better double gold on the global stage attention to life. --

:06:22. > :06:25.potentially. When you have a lot of everybody, the morning after, or

:06:26. > :06:34.what you want to do? You want to chat the Brendan Foster.

:06:35. > :06:45.Legend. I tell you what! Time and time again, he has delivered, one

:06:46. > :06:49.more time for Mo Farah. Honestly, it was lovely.

:06:50. > :06:54.In front of his home crowd, in the city he knows so well, the city that

:06:55. > :06:57.he loves, the track that set him on this brilliant journey.

:06:58. > :07:02.Congratulations, that was a fantastic performance last night, a

:07:03. > :07:06.pleasure to be there. Ever nervous? Yesterday was different for me

:07:07. > :07:11.knowing it was going to be the last ten K, I was just quite all

:07:12. > :07:14.yesterday. People were like, what is wrong, Mo? Early part, it was going

:07:15. > :07:19.reasonably, you were pretty close, you normally go to the back. I was

:07:20. > :07:22.pretty close, and you something would happen because the last ten

:07:23. > :07:26.years, they were saying they would be me on what they needed to do and

:07:27. > :07:30.they never load up. Now fair play, they followed this year and they

:07:31. > :07:33.made it one of the toughest championships of my career.

:07:34. > :07:39.Already orchestrating the crowd because York Strait the races as

:07:40. > :07:42.well. I am telling the people, I have been nation behind me, what you

:07:43. > :07:47.have, boys? It has never been as quick as this.

:07:48. > :07:50.3,000 metres to go and it was hurting, I was tired.

:07:51. > :07:56.Physically, that race was a bit crazy. 800m to go, I nearly got a

:07:57. > :08:00.couple of trips. From that point, was like, they are not going fast

:08:01. > :08:04.enough to beat me, try and control it where you feel good and where you

:08:05. > :08:08.have something left for the last lap and go for it.

:08:09. > :08:11.That was always my plan. The British best with his heart pounding beneath

:08:12. > :08:15.it. Tell us about crossing the line.

:08:16. > :08:22.It was beautiful, I really enjoyed it. There was that moment where it

:08:23. > :08:27.will not be forgotten. He is a one-man world superstar! It

:08:28. > :08:41.is gold for Farah. Excited for next weekend? Arsenal?

:08:42. > :08:45.No, Mo Farah, 5,000 metres. Physically OK? Some scratches and

:08:46. > :08:48.bruises, just have to take care of it and dressed and get ready and

:08:49. > :08:55.think whatever happens happens. It is a new race.

:08:56. > :09:00.Mo looking smart in his spectacles and very fresh. The morning after

:09:01. > :09:06.the night before. That is the medal table, let's savour that, it looks

:09:07. > :09:09.good, Paula? Very good, if it carries on like that, it sets the

:09:10. > :09:13.ball rolling and it is a great start. I'm sure the atmosphere

:09:14. > :09:17.inside the camp with the gold medal must have boosted everybody today

:09:18. > :09:23.will stop look at the fans, pouring in. They are the lucky ticket

:09:24. > :09:26.holders. If you have a ticket for tonight, you know you are in for a

:09:27. > :09:33.treat, not just for the semifinals and finals, we also have the women's

:09:34. > :09:37.semifinals and the 1500m and a fill condiment for Britain. You must be

:09:38. > :09:42.thrilled. It was amazing to watch last night, so happy to see gestured

:09:43. > :09:48.back and taking that race by the scruff of the neck. -- Jessica Judd.

:09:49. > :09:51.Qualifying for the semifinal, she's in a top semifinal and she might

:09:52. > :09:56.have to do the tonight but she is having fun with her running and to

:09:57. > :10:00.be surrounded by Laura Muir, Laura Weightman and Sarah McDonald,

:10:01. > :10:06.looking forward to watching the semifinals tonight. So loaded with

:10:07. > :10:09.talent, these runners. And running it in a hat tab on, you do not have

:10:10. > :10:14.to think much about your race strategy, it was a time trial --

:10:15. > :10:19.heptathlon. In the big sense of the word, you are kind of racing against

:10:20. > :10:23.yourself. In the 15, tactics is a huge part and I can't imagine having

:10:24. > :10:27.to run the race and think about everybody else and how I will get to

:10:28. > :10:30.different positions. Laura does so well and they have just breezed

:10:31. > :10:35.through Canterbury and looked confident. Excited about the

:10:36. > :10:41.semifinal and hopeful for all of them. It is going to be tough, it is

:10:42. > :10:46.one of these toughest races, if not the toughest race depth wise of the

:10:47. > :10:50.championships. Any other year, the semifinals could have been finals.

:10:51. > :10:54.Warming up on the track in her shades, which I wonder if she had

:10:55. > :10:57.those packed in her bag this morning when we had thunder and rain, we

:10:58. > :11:03.have had everything! The Sun has come out, it is bathed in sunshine.

:11:04. > :11:10.Looking fantastic. Starting to evoke the feelings of 2012. There has been

:11:11. > :11:15.reallocation medals already starting these championships and that will

:11:16. > :11:19.continue throughout. Jess is getting her gold upgrades tomorrow and it

:11:20. > :11:24.was gold last night for Mo, but tonight for Jo Pavey, it was an

:11:25. > :11:28.upgrade the Bronze. This is from fourth place in Osaka, the World

:11:29. > :11:36.Championships of 2007, the Abbey to took the silver bailed a doping test

:11:37. > :11:44.-- the athlete. That result meant it was Jo Pavey, the European champion

:11:45. > :11:48.of 2014, who thrilled everybody when she was a relatively new mother out

:11:49. > :11:52.there and she took that gold. A great Commonwealth Games the same

:11:53. > :11:55.year as well and ended up in the rostrum on sports personality,

:11:56. > :12:00.things came late for her in her career but you say, that was 2007.

:12:01. > :12:04.What would a medal have done for her in her career at that stage?

:12:05. > :12:09.Exactly, that is the biggest thing people who choose to treat rob from

:12:10. > :12:16.the sport. It is moments like this and it is changing the race, the way

:12:17. > :12:22.it would have been run and people's careers would pan out. Jenny Meadows

:12:23. > :12:25.has spoken about losing medals meant she went away, trained and her body

:12:26. > :12:30.broke down and she couldn't cope with that, and it is the knock-on

:12:31. > :12:35.effect. You can never get that back. What cheats take from our sport, you

:12:36. > :12:40.can never get back and you can't come down hard enough on them in my

:12:41. > :12:43.opinion. You have got a lot of gold medals already, Jess, you are

:12:44. > :12:51.getting another tomorrow, 6:45pm is your medal ceremony. An upgraded to

:12:52. > :12:56.gold from silver. It is ten minutes away from the 100m medal ceremony as

:12:57. > :13:02.well, so it is going to be a big evening for medals. But I have

:13:03. > :13:08.noticed the athletes are wearing tracksuits. What you think? Still

:13:09. > :13:12.debating what to wear. Have they a special maternity tracksuit? No, I

:13:13. > :13:16.think they wanted me to squeeze into my 2011 tracksuit and I said no

:13:17. > :13:25.chance! Trying to find something I will fit into. You looking cracking!

:13:26. > :13:29.Were all here tonight and we will play everybody in and discus every

:13:30. > :13:34.event that happens. But Michael likes his study time, he's out there

:13:35. > :13:39.being very studious. Working out. He is listening! Working out what he is

:13:40. > :13:44.going to say. We will discus the man's 100m. Michael, when you see

:13:45. > :13:49.his cushion, you know they are coming in the House during the

:13:50. > :13:54.night, so Michael is and Paula and Jess. Sorry, that was a bit hard! We

:13:55. > :14:02.have got a great evening in store, this is what you can't forward to.

:14:03. > :14:07.-- you can look forward to. The greatest athlete ever attempts to

:14:08. > :14:13.add a 12 gold world medal to his unparalleled collection of his

:14:14. > :14:16.career in ultimate style. Controversial American Justin Gatlin

:14:17. > :14:20.was booed during the heats on Friday, can the arch villain spring

:14:21. > :14:24.a surprise and upsell the finale of Usain Bolt?

:14:25. > :14:28.Also trying to gate-crash in the 100m is America's Christies --

:14:29. > :14:33.Christian Coleman, fastest in the world at the age of 21 issue.

:14:34. > :14:41.He is in top company but could CJ Ujah claim a first British world

:14:42. > :14:45.medal since Darren Campbell in 2003? Double European indoor champion

:14:46. > :14:50.Laura Muir at once to break onto the global stage, she is one of four

:14:51. > :14:55.British runners in the semifinals. With the high profile exit of Jeff

:14:56. > :15:01.Henderson and the absence of Greg Rutherford, the stage is set for

:15:02. > :15:04.world leader in South Africa's Hugo manana to deliver.

:15:05. > :15:10.She struggled in the High Jump today but can Katarina Johnson-Thompson do

:15:11. > :15:26.well today in the shot-put? Can the Belgian continued to

:15:27. > :15:31.dominate the day? Here is the timetable tonight, the Heptathlon

:15:32. > :15:37.with the shot put at seven o'clock and defiant last bit is the 100

:15:38. > :15:47.metres semifinals for the men, then the stern test from Daniel Stahl in

:15:48. > :15:59.the discus throw. Can he revisit his form. Four British athletes in the

:16:00. > :16:06.1500m, headed by Laura Miller, then Luvo Manyonga in the long jump in

:16:07. > :16:12.the absence of the injured Greg Rutherford. Henderson did not make

:16:13. > :16:16.the final. At ten past eight, the 10,000 metres for the women and at

:16:17. > :16:26.nine o'clock, the 200 metres and that is one of the pet events. And

:16:27. > :16:34.at 9:45pm, Usain Bolt could celebrate his 12 championship gold

:16:35. > :16:39.medal. It has been very eventful for the Heptathlon, our soul

:16:40. > :16:44.representative, Katarina Johnson-Thompson, despite huge

:16:45. > :16:52.promise earlier in her career, is yet to win a global outdoor medal.

:16:53. > :16:56.The favourite is the Belgian, Nafissatou Thiam, and this morning

:16:57. > :17:06.we had the Hurdles and the high jump and we have the story. The noise in

:17:07. > :17:12.the stadium is building because everybody is getting ready for the

:17:13. > :17:15.Women's Heptathlon featuring Katarina Johnson-Thompson and

:17:16. > :17:28.everyone has a ticket and they are in for a treat. Not the best start

:17:29. > :17:36.for Nafissatou Thiam, and alongside her, we have the lead from Anouk

:17:37. > :17:43.Vetter. 13.30 three. That is not a good start from Nafissatou Thiam.

:17:44. > :17:52.She never really got moving. Katarina Johnson-Thompson has work

:17:53. > :18:02.to do, but it is the Netherland is doing very well, Nadine Broersen.

:18:03. > :18:05.And 12.85 with Nadine Visser. We can think about Katarina

:18:06. > :18:10.Johnson-Thompson exploding into that event and perhaps some safety in the

:18:11. > :18:14.blocks because she was cautious at the start from Katarina

:18:15. > :18:20.Johnson-Thompson. You had a good look at her, how is she looking? Not

:18:21. > :18:25.the best start and she was looking worrying but she ran a good time. I

:18:26. > :18:33.think she will take some confidence from that. Katarina

:18:34. > :18:40.Johnson-Thompson, and we have Nadine Visser in front. Laura

:18:41. > :18:47.Ikauniece-Admidina losing huge points, struggling with a leg

:18:48. > :18:53.problem. If you were in the head of Katarina Johnson-Thompson, how do

:18:54. > :18:59.you improve? Absolutely, that is the key to the Heptathlon, park those

:19:00. > :19:07.emotions temporarily, stay in the moment and focus on what is coming

:19:08. > :19:13.up next. The first attempt, 180. Great start for Katarina

:19:14. > :19:19.Johnson-Thompson. Very relaxed looking Katarina Johnson-Thompson,

:19:20. > :19:25.passing at this height. Basically, that is a smart move, you want to be

:19:26. > :19:30.at your best when the bar is highest. It was a tactic she hoped

:19:31. > :19:36.would pay off later in the morning but having passed at 1.83, she would

:19:37. > :19:49.fail at 1.80 six. Failing three times here would be a nightmare. One

:19:50. > :19:56.point 86. No! My gosh! And you can see just how devastating that is.

:19:57. > :20:01.That is a massive disappointment for Katarina Johnson-Thompson, and she

:20:02. > :20:07.knows it. Speechless. The competition continued until the

:20:08. > :20:18.final two operates a shrug athletes, including the Olympic champion. She

:20:19. > :20:33.has got that as well. 1.85. That was a clean clearance, delighted with

:20:34. > :20:43.that. Neither could improve on 1.95,... The standings after two

:20:44. > :20:47.events. And Nafissatou Thiam in the lead by seven points from Rodriguez,

:20:48. > :20:50.who had a fantastic high jump and create that head-to-head we thought

:20:51. > :20:58.would be with Katarina Johnson-Thompson. Katarina

:20:59. > :21:02.Johnson-Thompson, by virtue of the fact that both events were good but

:21:03. > :21:06.not perhaps good enough for her, she is still in fifth place but she

:21:07. > :21:12.still has the shot put and that is not one of her favourites. She is

:21:13. > :21:20.well behind Nafissatou Thiam in distance. She is capable of 30

:21:21. > :21:25.metres and that will get her some points, but Nafissatou Thiam is

:21:26. > :21:37.fantastic. She is capable of throwing 50 metres. What has she

:21:38. > :21:48.lost? Let us not say 1.98, but what if we said 1.96? It is massive,

:21:49. > :21:52.people says the high jump is over weighted, it has been that way for

:21:53. > :21:57.years but you are compromised, if you are a very good high jump, she

:21:58. > :22:05.has to dig deep and she knows she can throw 13 metres, it is whether

:22:06. > :22:10.she has left that baggage behind. She has to come out here with a

:22:11. > :22:19.clean slate and be aggressive, I want to see her being aggressive.

:22:20. > :22:25.She is not coming in here... She is such a proficient high jump. Easy,

:22:26. > :22:30.nothing you would have said was wrong with that at 1.80? You

:22:31. > :22:34.generally do not think Katarina Johnson-Thompson will get into

:22:35. > :22:42.trouble, you can always feel she has what it takes to get over. That was

:22:43. > :22:46.the second? And her jumping ability is incredible, the long jump and the

:22:47. > :22:50.high jump but she just did not have any rhythm on the runway, trying to

:22:51. > :23:00.clear the bar before she even had any height. There was devastation,

:23:01. > :23:07.she knows that has cost her dearly. They worked on her conditioning.

:23:08. > :23:11.Utter disbelief. We talk about mental state and before the Hurdles

:23:12. > :23:16.we talked about her ability to compartmentalise and move things to

:23:17. > :23:20.one side and in Beijing, she was devastated by the long jump and you

:23:21. > :23:24.put your arms around her and we were back on watching that in the studio

:23:25. > :23:30.in Salford and that was a real moment. As a new mother out there,

:23:31. > :23:37.you could see the heartbreak on her face? Every heptathlete knows that

:23:38. > :23:44.feeling, we were rivals but I knew just how awful it was for her to be

:23:45. > :23:49.in that position, to have no jumps. It is soul destroying, that is the

:23:50. > :23:51.event, you have to get through every event, mentally strong and

:23:52. > :23:58.physically get through. Devastating last year. And Nafissatou Thiam did

:23:59. > :24:05.that today, by her standards she had an average Hurdles? And she then

:24:06. > :24:11.does this in the high jump? You always know things will not always

:24:12. > :24:18.be perfect. You have to accept that, getting the personal best is a

:24:19. > :24:25.bonus, it is rare, Nafissatou Thiam last year, that was some error and

:24:26. > :24:30.she has grown into this role. I wondered how she would cope with

:24:31. > :24:34.being Olympic champion and she has gone from strength to strength, we

:24:35. > :24:39.saw that at the European Championships and she was supreme

:24:40. > :24:44.and she has transferred that and she is in a very Nice -- nice move at

:24:45. > :24:50.the moment. At lunchtime we felt disappointed for her and her

:24:51. > :24:55.Heptathlon chances, somebody else could have an event that does not go

:24:56. > :25:02.well and she can pick herself up? Hope is not lost? You will not get a

:25:03. > :25:05.personal best in every event, you have to decide on those performances

:25:06. > :25:10.and Katarina Johnson-Thompson has to shorten the gap between those

:25:11. > :25:14.events, she will not beat Nafissatou Thiam in the shot put, it is making

:25:15. > :25:21.those gaps smaller to get closer to the medals. The shot put and 200

:25:22. > :25:25.metres left to come tonight and we getting down to only minutes away

:25:26. > :25:30.from the men coming into the stadium for the 100 metres semifinals. Some

:25:31. > :25:36.of them will still be on the track before heading into the cool room.

:25:37. > :25:42.Or an ad-lib is there. The air is thick with anticipation ahead of the

:25:43. > :25:48.main event, myself and Colin went through a crowd of nine people deep,

:25:49. > :25:51.all having their eyes on Usain Bolt and is it fair to say there is an

:25:52. > :25:58.element of nervousness in the air because of yesterday? Usain Bolt is

:25:59. > :26:01.not the most comfortable out of the blocks and he was quite vocal about

:26:02. > :26:09.how he was not very comfortable, that will have caused bells for

:26:10. > :26:12.everybody but he is a professional and perfectionist and he will put

:26:13. > :26:17.that to bed and were definitely give him, he would use. If the blocks are

:26:18. > :26:22.the same, he will be coming out. He will not care about any of the other

:26:23. > :26:31.competitors but who will be the main challenge? The semifinal is red-hot

:26:32. > :26:35.and with Coleman for the United States, he was in the same

:26:36. > :26:41.semifinal, we could see potential medallists going together very

:26:42. > :26:44.early, they are like heavyweight boxers, there will be lots of this

:26:45. > :26:55.Sun that going on until the main event! I should have warmed myself

:26:56. > :27:02.up for that! He is up against the best? That semifinal is very tough

:27:03. > :27:09.for CJ and he will drive his best, the fastest loser places. This man

:27:10. > :27:20.likes to put his money where his mouth is, will Usain Bolt do it

:27:21. > :27:26.tonight? Yes, he will, 9.81! It looks glorious, confident, Colin

:27:27. > :27:32.predicting 9.81. He has come in two major championships under pressure,

:27:33. > :27:37.in 2015 there was almost pantomime Theatre with Bolt against Gatland

:27:38. > :27:47.and in the build-up to the Rio Olympics he told us how he dealt

:27:48. > :27:52.with that. People loved seeing the 100 metres as the fastest medal in

:27:53. > :27:57.the world. Going into the championship I was nervous, I was a

:27:58. > :28:01.little bit worried, the extra pressure people but aren't you

:28:02. > :28:08.because they were going with good against bad with myself and Justin

:28:09. > :28:15.Gatlin. I remember my coach saying, listen, the only person I am seeing

:28:16. > :28:20.showing off more on the occasion that new is Justin Gatlin. When he

:28:21. > :28:34.comes to the championship, he will always be ready. He always pushes me

:28:35. > :28:40.to be my best so I appreciate that. Justin Gatlin, he has never been

:28:41. > :28:49.under so much pressure in his life. He is usually running away or being

:28:50. > :28:54.chased. I talked to my coach and he said, don't worry, you are the

:28:55. > :29:07.champion, you have been here many times, just get it done, you know

:29:08. > :29:21.what to do. Justin Gatlin! Usain Bolt! Usain Bolt!

:29:22. > :29:29.We are about nine minutes away from the first of the semifinals,

:29:30. > :29:38.conditions could not be better? I think we will learn a lot in these

:29:39. > :29:41.semifinals. Yesterday left some questions with Bolt questioning the

:29:42. > :29:49.starting blocks and questioning his own performance. And that plus the

:29:50. > :29:54.performance from Christian Coleman left some questions so we will see

:29:55. > :30:01.things taking shape and we will have a race. How relevant do you think

:30:02. > :30:09.that rivalry Usain Bolt was so eloquent about, how is that relevant

:30:10. > :30:13.tonight? It is poignant, it shows you why Usain Bolt wins so many

:30:14. > :30:16.races when he comes into championships where he is not at his

:30:17. > :30:20.best, we have seen that time and again and here, he is more

:30:21. > :30:25.vulnerable tonight that he ever has been in the past. But that is why he

:30:26. > :30:33.will probably win, he understands how to deal with pressure and he

:30:34. > :30:36.also understands the effect that pressure has on his competitors when

:30:37. > :30:38.they think, maybe there is some chink in the armour with somebody

:30:39. > :30:57.like Coleman. He knows how to perform and produce

:30:58. > :31:02.the type of performers that he needs to win. Others do not know how to do

:31:03. > :31:06.that and that is why he will probably win again tonight when he

:31:07. > :31:10.is not at his best because some of those other people probably will not

:31:11. > :31:14.produce their best performance. If they are able to do that, Christian

:31:15. > :31:17.Coleman as an example has the fastest time this year in the world

:31:18. > :31:23.and he looked fantastic yesterday, if you can do that again two more

:31:24. > :31:28.times, maybe he can win. We are in for a real treat, but at the end of

:31:29. > :31:34.the day, look, it is hard to beat him. And that piece about how he

:31:35. > :31:40.understands the sport and himself as a competitor shows why he is so hard

:31:41. > :31:44.to beat. Earlier, I was saying to Jess he had almost a struggle to get

:31:45. > :31:49.to the line in Rio and to motivate and get himself to his final

:31:50. > :31:53.Olympics, so it must have been a challenge this year. Today, he wakes

:31:54. > :31:56.up this morning and he knows today is the last day, he must have a

:31:57. > :32:01.range of emotions to deal with more than normal on the final

:32:02. > :32:04.championship day. He is a unique individual in that he understands

:32:05. > :32:09.and he has talked about, we saw in the documentary he feels pressure,

:32:10. > :32:15.he just knows how to deal with it as a competitor. But as a person, it it

:32:16. > :32:20.does not matter to him. His legacy is set. Life will continue. That is

:32:21. > :32:24.not how he lives. Life will continue, it is not the end of the

:32:25. > :32:29.world. He wants it bad, he wants to win and go out winning. But in the

:32:30. > :32:35.grand scheme of things, it does not matter to him. And that is a very

:32:36. > :32:39.unique balance. I can't see myself doing that, I would not put myself

:32:40. > :32:44.on the line here, I retired on top after Sydney and when I weighed out

:32:45. > :32:51.whether there was more to gain or to lose, I felt there was more to lose,

:32:52. > :32:55.it will take my toys and go home! And that is what I admire about him,

:32:56. > :33:00.he felt, there is nothing for me to prove. I still will put it on the

:33:01. > :33:04.line and give these guys a shot at me. And he likes that. He feels like

:33:05. > :33:11.he will give them a shot and beat them. A better reaction Justin

:33:12. > :33:14.Gatlin from the crowd and there was last night, there was pantomime

:33:15. > :33:19.BOOING last night. I went out and had a word with the crowd! All

:33:20. > :33:24.60,000! I think again, if you are going to do that with Gatlin, do it

:33:25. > :33:27.for all the people who have ever testified that in sport, do not make

:33:28. > :33:32.him the poster child for what is wrong with the sport. It is a

:33:33. > :33:37.fascinating 20 minutes for the semifinals, let's get down onto the

:33:38. > :33:38.track for the first of three semifinals of the men's 100m. Good

:33:39. > :33:48.evening, Steve Cram. Good evening, everybody. The chair

:33:49. > :33:53.was on the big screen and in the stadium, it was Katarina

:33:54. > :34:01.Johnson-Thompson. Rather than for Mr Gatlin, so interesting to see what

:34:02. > :34:06.his image, when his image appears, what reaction he gets. We have three

:34:07. > :34:09.races, we have three British athletes. Will one of them make it

:34:10. > :34:16.through to the final tonight? Hopefully to join Bolt. Hopefully to

:34:17. > :34:23.give this crowd not only the chance to cheer Bolt and whoever else is in

:34:24. > :34:28.there. Dasaolu run very well in the British Championships. And he has

:34:29. > :34:35.performed well all season. Up against him, he has got one of the

:34:36. > :34:41.fastest men in the world this year, Akani Simbine, Aska Cambridge,

:34:42. > :34:53.Julian Forte from Jamaica. Justin Gatlin is in six. An Zhenye Xie of

:34:54. > :34:58.China. Well, he has a habit of running well in South Africa, Akani

:34:59. > :35:04.Simbine. But not producing it in the championships. That was the case

:35:05. > :35:09.yesterday. So he is in lane two. On his game, he's very quick. Aska

:35:10. > :35:13.Cambridge is not the best of the Japanese, we will see Brown, a young

:35:14. > :35:20.talent, in the next. James Dasaolu, the Croydon Harriers member. Loving

:35:21. > :35:25.the crowd. He has to finish in the top two, only the top two guaranteed

:35:26. > :35:33.and two Buster spots, three races the semifinal. Julian Forte, 995 in

:35:34. > :35:36.qualifying, equalling his personal best. That was special for the

:35:37. > :35:47.Jamaican crowd and there is a what in here tonight. There you go.

:35:48. > :35:54.BOOING. Nothing else to be said really. The

:35:55. > :36:00.crowd incline to have an opinion, in all sports they have those they like

:36:01. > :36:06.and those they do not. Ivory Coast, having a wonderfully consistent

:36:07. > :36:17.season chasing the CJ Ujah and others, Meite. Kim of Korea. A new

:36:18. > :36:23.national record set this year. And Zhenye Xie, not the best of the

:36:24. > :36:29.Chinese. And the Chinese will have a good Relay team. That will be later

:36:30. > :36:38.in the week. So three semifinals, Bolt is in the third. This is the

:36:39. > :36:53.first. Gatlin. He is in six. Dasaolu in four. Meite in lane seven will be

:36:54. > :37:05.the big threat. A packed house, as you would expect.

:37:06. > :37:11.A plain start, the quickest on the far side, Akani Simbine, Gatland

:37:12. > :37:19.running through the middle. It is going to be close. Meite in fourth.

:37:20. > :37:25.I said if he gets it right, he will be a threat, not as fast as I was

:37:26. > :37:37.expecting from the likes of Gatlin. Even Meite. 10.6 in a slight

:37:38. > :37:41.headwind. Pretty good conditions. Simbine winning by 41 hundredths of

:37:42. > :37:48.a second from Justin Gatlin and that is a good return. Sadly, Dasaolu

:37:49. > :37:53.will not be quick enough. And he was in fourth place anyway. What did you

:37:54. > :37:58.make of that, Colin? Meite just held off by Justin Gatlin. Interesting

:37:59. > :38:02.race. Everybody wondering if Simbine would turn it on and that is exactly

:38:03. > :38:06.what he did come out of the blocks, taking an early lead. You know when

:38:07. > :38:10.you go to the first round and you cruise through? You get chopped in

:38:11. > :38:14.and outside lane. You do not get in the mix. That can cause a bit of a

:38:15. > :38:21.problem. Justin Gatlin sneaking through for the second place. Much

:38:22. > :38:25.closer, I was not expecting it to be that close. Expected it to be a bit

:38:26. > :38:33.faster than that, but it is only the semifinal. Redman will be ready for

:38:34. > :38:36.that final. It is interesting, I was chatting to the American management

:38:37. > :38:40.and they were playing down Gatlin saying he had changed too many

:38:41. > :38:44.things in his normal setup. Not sure he is in the right place mentally

:38:45. > :38:50.for this and the BOOING can't help. That was not a Gatlin performance

:38:51. > :38:54.for me in the semifinal stage. No, not vintage. He is getting older,

:38:55. > :38:58.you have to add that into the equation, and he will all be looking

:38:59. > :39:04.that always be looking, and searching, but in the final. 10.9,

:39:05. > :39:09.one of the slowest races he will have run.

:39:10. > :39:15.The heptathlete out for the third event of seven, Katarina

:39:16. > :39:22.Johnson-Thompson, huge disappointment in the High Jump. Way

:39:23. > :39:27.down on what she is capable of, soul destroying, in the words of Jessica

:39:28. > :39:33.Ennis-Hill. First row, looking to salvage a challenge for a medal.

:39:34. > :39:41.Down the left sector. Almost stopping in the middle. Around 12

:39:42. > :39:44.metres. She can go over 30 metres. So a steady start. A little reverse

:39:45. > :39:50.speed and changing technique. She has made this year. Let's have a

:39:51. > :39:57.look at that. Not a bad start, she has got a throw in, above 12 metres

:39:58. > :40:02.is OK. Not setting the world alight and it is not going to make ground

:40:03. > :40:10.on the position. 12.1. This is one of the contenders for the medals.

:40:11. > :40:14.Carolin Schafer, of Germany. In third place overall. And you can see

:40:15. > :40:20.the personal best way beyond what we have just seen from Katarina

:40:21. > :40:23.Johnson-Thompson. Over 40 metres. Different lines, it is a different

:40:24. > :40:29.sector. The better throwers on one side of the sector at the end of

:40:30. > :40:35.this Olympic Stadium. Katarina Johnson-Thompson in the opposite

:40:36. > :40:46.pool. Based on lifetime bests. Good start for Schafer. Really good

:40:47. > :40:52.start, lifetime best, 14.84. This is the event leader, the Olympic

:40:53. > :41:04.champion, Nafissatou Thiam. In full flow. 1.95 in the High Jump, average

:41:05. > :41:08.in the hurdles. The personal best is her season's best, over 50 metres,

:41:09. > :41:17.this is the gap Katarina Johnson-Thompson is looking at.

:41:18. > :41:22.Thiam looking to increase her lead. Got her right shoulder and that,

:41:23. > :41:33.that is around, over 50 metres. That is a big effort from Thiam, of

:41:34. > :41:41.Belgium. That is how to do it. It was pretty raw, actually, the

:41:42. > :41:48.technique. A bit like the High Jump. 15.17. So Katarina Johnson-Thompson

:41:49. > :41:53.losing more ground on the opposition and not much you can do about it at

:41:54. > :42:01.the moment. Second of three semifinals in the

:42:02. > :42:05.man's race. This is a big fellow, Emmanuel Matadi, he raced for the

:42:06. > :42:09.United States in the past but is representing the country of his

:42:10. > :42:17.birth, Liberia. Jamaican born Alex Wilson who has been living in

:42:18. > :42:23.Switzerland since he was 13. Fairly modest in the last round. Yohan

:42:24. > :42:36.Blake. World Champion in 2011. When Usain Bolt made a false start.

:42:37. > :42:39.Outside him, this huge talent, 18 years old, Abdul Hakim Sani Brown of

:42:40. > :42:49.Japan. Father from Ghana and Japanese mother. Bingtian Su,

:42:50. > :42:58.outstandingly quick out of the blocks. Jak Ali Harvey, the former

:42:59. > :43:01.Jamaican competing for Turkey over the last two years, finished well in

:43:02. > :43:05.his heat to come through. This man had to finish well, he started

:43:06. > :43:17.dreadfully, he likes a show on the start line. And then some noise to,

:43:18. > :43:22.the Reece Prescod. Such a hugely talented youngster. A tall man, you

:43:23. > :43:28.can see what happens, you can have problems and growing pains and now

:43:29. > :43:34.only fulfilling his potential. 10.3 in qualifying, that was in lane two

:43:35. > :43:41.and now he is in lane nine. Writing the flanks to the final of the 100m,

:43:42. > :43:45.a big asked. To reach the semifinal, an achievement in itself. Only two

:43:46. > :43:51.go through, the first heat, the first semifinal, was not quick. An

:43:52. > :43:56.outside chance of being one of the two fastest losers. Prescod is in

:43:57. > :44:10.lane nine. Second semifinal of the man's 100m.

:44:11. > :44:22.Su Bingtian flies away. A stumble from Sani Brown. Prescod coming

:44:23. > :44:27.through and he gets second on the line. Yohan Blake the victory. But

:44:28. > :44:30.Reece Prescod is heading to the final of the world's Championships,

:44:31. > :44:37.what a run once he got into his running! He was flying! He does not

:44:38. > :44:42.know it yet, but it has been confirmed. He sees it on the screen,

:44:43. > :44:49.10.0 five. Consistent, consistently quick. He ran so well in the first

:44:50. > :44:53.round. And what a run he has put together in the semifinal. Yohan

:44:54. > :44:56.Blake the victory, but most of the cheers inside the stadium for the

:44:57. > :44:58.man in second place because Reece Prescod is true to the final of the

:44:59. > :45:09.100m. What a strong performance from that

:45:10. > :45:16.young man, if he could repeat that, he would be very close. His start

:45:17. > :45:21.was not as good at the finish is one that Reece Prescod can always

:45:22. > :45:33.deliver, passing everybody very easily. Only Yohan Blake. Everybody

:45:34. > :45:39.else, he treated them like, OK, this is my turf, and I will fight

:45:40. > :45:50.through. Brilliant run. Look at him moving past all except Yohan Blake.

:45:51. > :45:55.He is tall, he is like Bolt. He needs a while to get into the

:45:56. > :46:00.running. Popping out of the blocks, that is the way he runs. This is the

:46:01. > :46:06.way he will improve, getting used to the start, he will have a very nice

:46:07. > :46:12.progression in his sprinting life, lovely running from Reece Prescod.

:46:13. > :46:22.Interesting things happening all over. The match touted Japanese

:46:23. > :46:36.athlete, Abdul Hakim Sani Brown, had a terrible stumble. We can confirm,

:46:37. > :46:51.these are the tables. , automatic qualification. Here he comes, we can

:46:52. > :46:55.break off from Bolt as Katarina Johnson-Thompson gets ready for his

:46:56. > :47:04.second effort in the shot put. Slight improvement. The noise in the

:47:05. > :47:11.stadium as Usain Bolt enters, ready for the semifinal. The third event

:47:12. > :47:15.of the Heptathlon, Katarina Johnson-Thompson losing some ground

:47:16. > :47:27.and this is damage limitation, the shot put is not strong for her, it

:47:28. > :47:39.is better than, well, 12.37, she needs more in the third round.

:47:40. > :47:43.Balding macro the stadium erupted when Usain Bolt entered the arena.

:47:44. > :47:50.We are hoping will be the penultimate time, we hope this is

:47:51. > :47:54.going well and we would like to see him in the final, you are not

:47:55. > :48:01.worried about the semifinal? Especially given The Times we have

:48:02. > :48:06.seen, this semifinal does have Christian Coleman, that should be an

:48:07. > :48:10.interesting prided to what we will see tonight but I do not think he

:48:11. > :48:14.will have any problems. He is anxious to run at this point and we

:48:15. > :48:21.will see something very different from the execution last night. That

:48:22. > :48:28.was a very good run from Reece Prescod? He has a weirdo start, but

:48:29. > :48:37.what was impressive is the finish, he was maybe in sixth place halfway

:48:38. > :48:43.through. And to take second place, if you can get that start together,

:48:44. > :48:49.he can get under ten seconds. He shows consistency, he can be really

:48:50. > :48:56.good. His eyes are moving around, you don't tend to see that much, you

:48:57. > :49:00.used to seeing the affiliates really focused, his eyes were going left

:49:01. > :49:09.and right, just the way he does his thing. This is a new technique from

:49:10. > :49:13.the new preparation camp, he is learning so much and he has been

:49:14. > :49:28.working on his stance. Coming together nicely. Chijindu Ujah next

:49:29. > :49:38.to Usain Bolt in Heat 3, the final at 9:45pm tonight. Steve Cram,

:49:39. > :49:41.described the atmosphere. Just below us, around a couple of hundred

:49:42. > :49:50.Jamaican supporters, very close to the finish line, they have placards

:49:51. > :50:03.with the silhouette of this man, the unmistakable silhouette with his

:50:04. > :50:08.pose and the word legend. And some scarves, which were selling outside

:50:09. > :50:14.for only ?3. He does represent his country so well and there is a great

:50:15. > :50:20.Jamaican contingent in London to support him. There is a lot of

:50:21. > :50:31.nervous tension as well, that was very nice bowl from Shuhei Tada from

:50:32. > :50:36.Japan. Emre Zafer Barnes had to come through the preliminary rounds. And

:50:37. > :50:48.is this the man to upset the party, Christian Coleman? 12.01 -- 9.82.

:50:49. > :50:55.Until the American trials, he was unbeaten. Andrew Fisher, another

:50:56. > :51:02.transfer from Jamaica. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

:51:03. > :51:08.This is what we have come to see. He is the one they have come to see. He

:51:09. > :51:18.is the reason why so many people are here tonight. He has called Usain

:51:19. > :51:27.Bolt. Chijindu Ujah next to him, getting some British support.

:51:28. > :51:31.Brilliant run from Reece Prescod, what can Chijindu Ujah do? Jimmy

:51:32. > :51:38.Vicaut is struggling with a hamstring injury. But he looked like

:51:39. > :51:43.he was ready to go fast in qualification. And a bit of a

:51:44. > :51:53.surprise, Cejhae Greene from Antigua and Barbuda, a 21-year-old, just

:51:54. > :51:56.outside ten seconds this year. So far, pretty slow and I don't think

:51:57. > :52:05.he has ever needed to be the fastest loser, at the moment 10.12 would be

:52:06. > :52:10.good enough, and with Christian Coleman and Usain Bolt in this, that

:52:11. > :52:14.is maybe what he is looking at. And with Bolt next to him, maybe he can

:52:15. > :52:19.be dragged through to join him in the final. Here we go, the last

:52:20. > :52:24.individual semifinal from Usain Bolt. Surely he has to make it

:52:25. > :52:44.three? Bolt is away pretty well. And

:52:45. > :52:58.Christian Coleman. Bolt looks across. 9.97. Well, he is through,

:52:59. > :53:03.but there is a huge sigh of relief from the television stations around

:53:04. > :53:07.the world, but that is interesting, the first glimpse of Usain Bolt and

:53:08. > :53:15.Christian Coleman together and the threat looks like it is coming from

:53:16. > :53:23.this man, not Justin Gatlin. Look at his face? His name is not on there?

:53:24. > :53:34.The top four does not have his name. But we know, it's all right.

:53:35. > :53:40.Interesting, just for one second the crowd were thinking, what is going

:53:41. > :53:43.on? Surely that was Usain Bolt? And his name is not on the computer

:53:44. > :53:55.screen. His name has disappeared early. Chijindu Ujah... He is on

:53:56. > :54:04.there, right now. For a little while he had changed his name to Andrew

:54:05. > :54:10.Fisher. He is not starting well but Christian Coleman is explosive?

:54:11. > :54:16.Blasting this out. He says to Usain Bolt, this is how I am, if you are

:54:17. > :54:23.going to hold me back, I will still be working harder for 15 metres

:54:24. > :54:28.more. Usain Bolt, hauling himself out of the blocks, not charging with

:54:29. > :54:33.frequency. Checking to his left, he can see Hellfire Coleman is in front

:54:34. > :54:39.of him. You seem that long stride he has. And in the final, he will have

:54:40. > :54:47.to nail that start and from a much better position at the 50 metres

:54:48. > :54:55.mark and go from there. -- you can see how far. Usain Bolt looks and

:54:56. > :55:01.control, I need to start to pull this all the way through. Still

:55:02. > :55:11.glancing over there. And Christian Coleman, giving that little glance.

:55:12. > :55:17.Bolt smiling. So close and yet so far once again? I did not quite get

:55:18. > :55:23.out of the blocks. Really disappointed with that. It was the

:55:24. > :55:29.toughest of the semifinals with Usain Bolt and Christian Coleman,

:55:30. > :55:35.what was the thought process? I knew what I was up against, I just did

:55:36. > :55:41.not not execute the start. And as for your roommate, Reece Prescod,

:55:42. > :55:48.what can you say to him about the final? He is full of surprises, you

:55:49. > :55:57.never know, amazing talent, why not get a medal? Why not? I am going to

:55:58. > :55:58.get behind him and support him. I wish I could have been there with

:55:59. > :56:11.him. Thank you for talking to us. Very disappointed last year, this

:56:12. > :56:24.year it is two hundredths of a final by which he misses the final. And

:56:25. > :56:27.the fastest loser... Jimmy Vicaut. Shades of Beijing when he got

:56:28. > :56:35.through to the final but I suspect that is the tussle, Blake will

:56:36. > :56:42.feature, how much quicker can Bolt get? He has got quicker in every

:56:43. > :56:51.race this season. These are the qualifiers. Reece Prescod, brilliant

:56:52. > :57:03.to see him, Christian Coleman, two from the USA and Jamaica. And

:57:04. > :57:17.Bingtian Su. The second of seven in the high jump. Rodriguez from Cuba.

:57:18. > :57:24.She has over 40 metres and that is better. Just shy of 14 metres. We

:57:25. > :57:29.have talked about putting herself into contention for a medal and she

:57:30. > :57:38.will be one to watch. Very good technique. The left side staying

:57:39. > :57:50.strong, but shy of 14. And your best ever was 14.60 four.

:57:51. > :58:00.She needs over 13 metres. She needs her lifetime best. Like a golfer

:58:01. > :58:09.with a double bogey, she needs to birdie the next hole. She needs to

:58:10. > :58:21.dig deep for a personal best. She needs to push on. She is not on for

:58:22. > :58:28.that at the moment, she is on for 6498. Yorgelis Rodriguez is not

:58:29. > :58:32.doing well, the bronze medal is still there. Katarina

:58:33. > :58:42.Johnson-Thompson can still get that? I think so. Putting together this

:58:43. > :58:51.textbook first day, Nafissatou Thiam. As solid start, not like the

:58:52. > :59:00.Hurdles but was very good in the high jump and she has gone beyond 15

:59:01. > :59:06.metres. 15.17. Getting ready for this second effort, she can really

:59:07. > :59:12.go after this, she has that long throw at the points on the board in

:59:13. > :59:20.this third event. She can really push her right shoulder, this is

:59:21. > :59:25.where she gets her distance from. Maybe losing the left side little

:59:26. > :59:33.bit, dropping below. I don't think that is any improvement. And that is

:59:34. > :59:37.what happens. But the Olympic champion leads the world here. And

:59:38. > :59:55.at the moment, she looks unstoppable. There is no improvement

:59:56. > :00:00.14.76. Nafissatou Thiam, fantastic in the shot put and delivering, like

:00:01. > :00:05.Rio, where it matters most, and building on the impressive high

:00:06. > :00:13.jump, I'm just head over to the board with Michael. Michael has been

:00:14. > :00:18.working hard on some analysis. Reece Prescod in the Men's 100 metres

:00:19. > :00:24.final tonight. He mentioned his start, you said it was strange?

:00:25. > :00:30.Slow? Just a little bit weird, we can look at him in the semifinal,

:00:31. > :00:40.Great Run, fantastic, watch here, not a great start, already behind,

:00:41. > :00:45.at this point he is maybe in fifth or sixth place and this is where

:00:46. > :00:47.things get impressive. Ready to pick up the speed and come through. Look

:00:48. > :00:56.here. This is causing it to be weird. His

:00:57. > :01:00.ankles almost touching, that will not get you much power of the blog

:01:01. > :01:06.and that is why his start was not very good at all. But again, he was

:01:07. > :01:10.able to come through it and overcome that, a poor start. To keep his

:01:11. > :01:17.focus, continue to execute. His eyes on the finish line, and just pick

:01:18. > :01:22.through the field. Get himself into second place. Amazing performance,

:01:23. > :01:25.to get himself into the final. Is that something that he could

:01:26. > :01:29.literally change in a split second? His mother is watching and she text

:01:30. > :01:33.at him to say his ankles were together on the start box, does that

:01:34. > :01:36.make a difference? It can make a massive difference because he can

:01:37. > :01:41.get a better push from the starting blocks, it it is also the way he

:01:42. > :01:44.came off the blocks. If your ankles touch and you put pressure on the

:01:45. > :01:50.blocks and that does not propel you forward, it propels you inward and

:01:51. > :01:54.one knee towards another, you do not go forward. That is absolutely

:01:55. > :02:00.something. He is young, it could be just a mistake. There's time ever

:02:01. > :02:07.Usain Bolt has been beating the semifinal or Olympic semifinal --

:02:08. > :02:14.first time. He could have won that. Let's take a look. Much better in

:02:15. > :02:20.this race and he had been in the semifinal. This is what he wanted to

:02:21. > :02:25.do, to come out here and make up for what happened yesterday and he does

:02:26. > :02:29.very well. No problem with the blocks this time, a better start.

:02:30. > :02:34.This time, he executes and he takes his time and his more patient. Last

:02:35. > :02:39.night, he rushed it when he saw he was in trouble. He slows down, he

:02:40. > :02:43.looks at the screen and he feels comfortable and he knows he could

:02:44. > :02:47.continue this if he wants and go and win this. But he will be very bit

:02:48. > :02:51.for the final. And I think there is more where that came from. Does he

:02:52. > :02:58.will leave a bit. Why would he do that? For his own confidence going

:02:59. > :03:02.into the final not push that bit? Because he always has confidence and

:03:03. > :03:07.he does not need to build confidence by beating Coleman who is not the

:03:08. > :03:10.World Champion and Olympic champion like Usain Bolt. He knows he just

:03:11. > :03:15.needs to be patient and do what he does and stay within himself. When

:03:16. > :03:18.it really counts, which is what he always does, then he will put it all

:03:19. > :03:23.on the line. Ready for the moment, Michael. Paula has joined us, what

:03:24. > :03:31.we are looking out for? On the track. Laura Muir. She is in the

:03:32. > :03:35.first of the semifinals of the 1500m, all British women made it

:03:36. > :03:39.through, all four. Laura is the Diamond League winner and the best

:03:40. > :03:44.in Britain. That is why we get four women in the semifinals, what race

:03:45. > :03:50.to she need to qualify for the final tonight? She knows, she just has to

:03:51. > :03:56.run it like any race, and she always lays it on the line and she puts it,

:03:57. > :04:00.makes it into a brave and tough race and she will do that. And Jess Judd

:04:01. > :04:05.as well. Just might have to run another personal best to advance

:04:06. > :04:12.through to the final, she would just attack this race. They are up

:04:13. > :04:22.against Kipyegon. Caster Semenya. Dibaba. Any of the year, it could be

:04:23. > :04:26.a final. Coming through thick and fast and these semifinals are the

:04:27. > :04:34.highest of high quality. The women's semifinals of the 1500m and it is

:04:35. > :04:37.Heat 1 and Mrs Steve Cram. Round one was the highest quality

:04:38. > :04:42.ever in a major championships in terms of the time achieved and part

:04:43. > :04:49.of the worst you to Jess Judd which made the others have to run quick

:04:50. > :04:56.because of her frontrunning. Two Olympic champions, Kipyegon and

:04:57. > :04:59.Semenya. A defending World Champion, Dibaba, also the world record

:05:00. > :05:07.holder. Laura Muir, the champion in the European Indoors and the

:05:08. > :05:15.European outdoor champion, Cichocka. Also the likes of Arafi and grace of

:05:16. > :05:22.the United States. Quality athletes and only five go through. Tsegay

:05:23. > :05:27.under four minutes this year and she is still only 20. Laura Muir. She

:05:28. > :05:32.has got a bit of a strapping on her leg. I think she has been nursing a

:05:33. > :05:39.bit of an Achilles issue. Hopefully, that is OK. Might get a look at that

:05:40. > :05:43.strapping shortly. The defending champion Dibaba and almost looking

:05:44. > :05:50.back to her best. Just an incredible world-record. We were not sure

:05:51. > :05:55.whether she would run the 5,000 and she chose the 1,500 and she might

:05:56. > :05:59.yet run the 5,000. Personal best by Jess Judd, superb run in the heats,

:06:00. > :06:03.it you can expect something similar. She knows nothing but to go out and

:06:04. > :06:10.run as hard as she can. The others will love that. Arafi, Zoe Buckman

:06:11. > :06:16.of Australia knows this is a tough semifinal, as does Klein. And what

:06:17. > :06:23.about Caster Semenya? The Olympic champion at the 800m and they have

:06:24. > :06:28.just ignored her on the start line. The Olympic 1500m champion Kipyegon.

:06:29. > :06:34.Faith very popular among the 1500m runner contenders. Semenya is a

:06:35. > :06:37.stranger amongst this group of athletes because this is not her

:06:38. > :06:45.normal event and most people very surprised to see her contest this as

:06:46. > :06:52.well as the 800. The semifinal, five to go through, the two fastest

:06:53. > :06:57.losers from the two. Sitting next to me, you and I both enjoyed Jess,

:06:58. > :07:02.Rebecca, incredible journey to get back to this form. Yesterday in the

:07:03. > :07:06.heats, a lot of people saying how much they enjoyed her running. It is

:07:07. > :07:11.kind of all she knows and I think we will get something similar. It is

:07:12. > :07:18.really good. An athlete knows her strengths. Even under pressure, the

:07:19. > :07:22.World Championship semifinal, she is taking this competition and sticking

:07:23. > :07:27.to her challenge and that is a real strength for the young lady who we

:07:28. > :07:31.will see a lot more of in the future. Dibaba realises she has got

:07:32. > :07:39.to get close. This is a loaded field with real talent in it. This could

:07:40. > :07:44.grace any final and it is going to be tough for Jess. A little bit

:07:45. > :07:52.tougher... There goes Dibaba, no, it was the other Ethiopian athlete. She

:07:53. > :07:59.is having a race. Trying to get back but she has lost four, five seconds,

:08:00. > :08:04.but Jess Judd does not let up. A perfect first lap. Yesterday, she

:08:05. > :08:08.said her dad told her not to go too quick on the first lap and this time

:08:09. > :08:13.it is more circumspect. 65, just bringing this up gradually. We hope

:08:14. > :08:17.she can use her strength, she has good strength and she will know she

:08:18. > :08:21.is not as quick as many of the other big names. But if she can stretch it

:08:22. > :08:29.out and get rid of some, it is a test of endurance, it is the impact

:08:30. > :08:39.yesterday had. The impact that has had on everybody today. Trying to

:08:40. > :08:44.work on Brendan's microphone. Jess Judd is coming round with two laps

:08:45. > :08:56.to go. We are watching for the 800m mark. Pretty much giving up,, that

:08:57. > :09:04.is sad for her. Laura Muir on the inside. Arafi. Kipyegon behind Laura

:09:05. > :09:10.Muir. I went through in 2.11. Almost identical to yesterday. She is

:09:11. > :09:14.tiring, she did well yesterday Jess Judd, Laura Muir on the inside and

:09:15. > :09:19.the middle but Dibaba is where she wanted to be. And look at Semenya on

:09:20. > :09:23.inside just cruising alongside the other bit champion. Olympic

:09:24. > :09:28.800-metre champion Semenya and away goes Kipyegon. She decides to needs

:09:29. > :09:39.to be in a better position in the finishing straight. The poll in the

:09:40. > :09:49.red and white Cichocka. Laura Muir alongside Dibaba. Jess Judd looks

:09:50. > :09:53.tired as the big names take it on. A mix-up race, this is Laura Muir and

:09:54. > :09:58.Jessica Judd fading but Dibaba holds the inside. The Olympic champion is

:09:59. > :10:06.next to her. This is Laura Muir putting herself in the right place.

:10:07. > :10:12.Right within the limit 800-metre champion Caster Semenya. 65 seconds

:10:13. > :10:15.and now the race is on. Laura Muir looks really comfortable. Supremely

:10:16. > :10:21.comfortable. Kipyegon looks relaxed. Working hard. Cichocka. We know what

:10:22. > :10:30.Semenya can do. Kipyegon at the front. Dibaba a little anxious, only

:10:31. > :10:35.five go through. Laura Muir in a perfect position. Kipyegon leading

:10:36. > :10:44.it. Dibaba in trouble. The surprise is Hanna Klein of Germany. Laura

:10:45. > :10:54.Muir, Semenya, Arafi. These five pulling away. Kipyegon, Laura Muir,

:10:55. > :11:02.Semenya, Cichocka and Klein of Germany. The first surprise, the

:11:03. > :11:06.winning time is 3,56. Two Ethiopians who I would have put my money on

:11:07. > :11:10.getting through, one is the defending champion and the

:11:11. > :11:16.world-record holder and the other is a very good athlete, Tsegay, who

:11:17. > :11:21.crosses the line distraught after falling earlier and Jess Judd looks

:11:22. > :11:28.tired. A messy semifinal, Brendan. But Kipyegon and Laura Muir,

:11:29. > :11:32.brilliant. Looking comfortable. Two hard races. Two hard races, Steve.

:11:33. > :11:39.That is why Jessica Judd is flat on her back and you can see the

:11:40. > :11:42.strapping on the leg of Laura Muir. Giving consolation to her young

:11:43. > :11:46.team-mate. Laura Muir looked really good. Really strong and powerful.

:11:47. > :11:51.That was a lot of action in that race. A lot of talent in that race

:11:52. > :11:56.and the two British athletes, well done, Jessica Judd. And Laura Muir

:11:57. > :11:59.trying to help her. That is the Olympic champion, Laura Muir

:12:00. > :12:07.alongside her looking powerful and looking good. This is Semenya, just

:12:08. > :12:11.doing enough. And the surprise of the race, Dibaba fading away in the

:12:12. > :12:19.home straight. Muir looking good. Kipyegon deal a bit champion looking

:12:20. > :12:23.strong. Here comes Caster Semenya. Klein of Germany, they are the five

:12:24. > :12:27.qualifiers. And surprise, surprise. The reigning champion takes no

:12:28. > :12:32.further part, except look at the times, we will have to see, but

:12:33. > :12:35.Semenya looks good. Laura Muir should feel really confident about

:12:36. > :12:41.that, a strong performance. I think she is down there now. With Phil

:12:42. > :12:51.Jones. He is there. She is there. Yet ready for them. Laura Muir.

:12:52. > :13:00.Both British athletes with me. Are you OK, first of all? Yes, I

:13:01. > :13:06.gave it everything. I couldn't do any more. Yes. It is OK. You

:13:07. > :13:13.attacked it like you always do. They wanted to, I was getting kicked a

:13:14. > :13:16.bit. It was so far. The last 24 hours has been crazy. Everybody has

:13:17. > :13:21.been lovely. That is why you go out to race. I did that for me. It did

:13:22. > :13:26.not pay off but to make a semifinal is just, I am over the moon and it

:13:27. > :13:31.is my dad's birthday so I wanted to give it a good go but it wasn't to

:13:32. > :13:36.be. Next time. Laura, it shows the camaraderie and the team, supporting

:13:37. > :13:41.your team-mate. Triumphant on the global stage like we hoped, showing

:13:42. > :13:45.tremendous form. Thank you, yes. I wanted to get the semifinal, that

:13:46. > :13:50.could have been a final. Jess did a great job and she was amazing,

:13:51. > :13:54.running a BB is great in something like this. A bit of strapping on

:13:55. > :13:58.your calf, at your Achilles. Is it something we should be worried

:13:59. > :14:04.about? No, my foot is fine, my body was not used to it being back in

:14:05. > :14:08.spikes, but all good. As you run the race, you said it could have been a

:14:09. > :14:13.final, as for the final, a quality field, but you look on top form.

:14:14. > :14:18.Yes, really surprised how I felt. I just felt really good and wanted to

:14:19. > :14:21.stay out of trouble. A girl went down at one point, the 1500m is

:14:22. > :14:27.scrappy and I wanted to get the final, glad I did that. We wish you

:14:28. > :14:30.well, congratulations, Jess, all the best going forward. Thank you and

:14:31. > :14:36.thank you to everyone at home as well, thank you.

:14:37. > :14:40.Yes, this is just exhaustion from Jess Judd. We knew she would run

:14:41. > :14:46.herself into the ground pretty much, glad she is all right. Wobbly legs!

:14:47. > :14:50.A discrepancy in size but Laura Muir doing a great job, a bit of a crutch

:14:51. > :14:54.for a while and Jess saying thank you very much. Good friends, the

:14:55. > :14:58.British quartet get along very well indeed in this event so they will be

:14:59. > :15:03.delighted Laura Muir has gone through. But the surprise is the

:15:04. > :15:08.World Champion Dibaba, world-record holder, she has to anxiously wait

:15:09. > :15:09.and watched the semifinal and Hanna Klein of Germany the surprise among

:15:10. > :15:19.the big names. Important moment here for Katarina

:15:20. > :15:28.Johnson-Thompson, her last chance to improve on her second round. She

:15:29. > :15:35.will throw 13 metres at her best and I really want to see her going after

:15:36. > :15:39.this. Something around 13 metres would put back into medal

:15:40. > :15:47.contention, but no. Disappointed with that. What did you make of

:15:48. > :15:53.that? Perry Street legs and upright when throwing, there was not enough

:15:54. > :16:04.flex in her legs to use the quadriceps and her groups. Again,

:16:05. > :16:11.throwing 12.72 in her best performance. This is leaking another

:16:12. > :16:15.17 points. But again, Yorgelis Rodriguez has also underperformed so

:16:16. > :16:21.there is a chance for a medal but you have to fight for it. It looks

:16:22. > :16:33.like Nafissatou Thiam is setting out her stall for a gold medal once

:16:34. > :16:45.again. 15.17, what can she do here? She threw 14.51 on her best effort.

:16:46. > :16:56.That 15 metres maybe puts back on course for 7000 points? Hip, chest

:16:57. > :17:04.and arm, let us see the distance... 15.17... Better than what you dreams

:17:05. > :17:15.of. I would praise something around 16.9. -- predicts something. The joy

:17:16. > :17:26.on the face of Sarah McDonald that you find out she had made the final!

:17:27. > :17:32.Laura Weightman, she has made the last two Olympic finals. Can she

:17:33. > :17:35.make her first world final? Not a happy hunting ground for the World

:17:36. > :17:43.Championships but she has the quality. Perhaps not the great star

:17:44. > :17:58.names of the first eight, another world champion

:17:59. > :18:10.with Jenny Simpson. She took the title in 2011. Fastest in the world

:18:11. > :18:21.this year, Sifan Hassan. Perhaps the favourite for the title, really

:18:22. > :18:29.surprised to see her struggling. Mind zacro with her left thigh

:18:30. > :18:37.heavily strapped. And Meraf Bahta from Sweden. High quality. Can Laura

:18:38. > :18:52.Weightman find a way through? The two fastest losers as well. Genzebe

:18:53. > :19:02.Dibaba is not our Kent. Laura Weightman will want a decent pace

:19:03. > :19:08.for this one. -- not out yet. She is trying to encourage the pace. Not

:19:09. > :19:13.trying to set the pace on her own, leaving space on the inside, she

:19:14. > :19:20.looks comfortable and strong, Jenny Simpson... With mind zacro on the

:19:21. > :19:26.inside. She knows the time, she can do 4.5. And as one of the fastest

:19:27. > :19:43.losers, that is a big advantage for her. Sifan Hassan is under the

:19:44. > :19:49.tutelage of an American and is a lot stronger. But this is very good

:19:50. > :19:54.running from Laura Weightman but nobody is responding to her? We were

:19:55. > :20:04.looking for a decent pace. This is Besu Sado trying to get herself into

:20:05. > :20:08.a better position. This is familiar for Sifan Hassan, loitering but she

:20:09. > :20:14.will make her move, she had a blistering finish in Beijing a

:20:15. > :20:20.couple of years ago. Could not quite get back to Genzebe Dibaba. She has

:20:21. > :20:29.a great change of pace and she sits at the back, like Mo Farah, waiting

:20:30. > :20:37.for her moments. Jenny Simpson, the other American, upfront alongside

:20:38. > :20:43.Laura Weightman. Laura Muir, the Diamond League winner, but then look

:20:44. > :20:50.at Sifan Hassan, she is a lot smoother and stronger. Off the front

:20:51. > :20:56.from the German. Making this sensible move and that is a burst of

:20:57. > :21:01.speed. Can she keep going? Error in pursuit are they know how good she

:21:02. > :21:08.is. She is prepared to try to win her way through the hardware. She to

:21:09. > :21:13.get out from the front in her heat. Just scraping through after leading

:21:14. > :21:21.all the rest of the accolades and look at that gap she has opened.

:21:22. > :21:26.This elfin figure. Sifan Hassan coming back to the front of the

:21:27. > :21:38.chasing pack, Besu Sado making her move also. They hit the bell.

:21:39. > :21:47.Konstanze Klosterhalfen will be hurting soon. But Sifan Hassan

:21:48. > :21:58.leading the chase. It doesn't really matter, five left to qualify and

:21:59. > :22:03.then the fastest losers. Look at the speed of Hassan. And Besu Sado

:22:04. > :22:10.speeding away. On the bike straight, Laura Weightman battling it out.

:22:11. > :22:21.Trying to hang on as the pack close in. She will pay the price, as

:22:22. > :22:31.Hassan comes past. Jenny Simpson is there. Laura Weightman trying to get

:22:32. > :22:37.past Winny Chebet. Here comes Laura Weightman, looking for the gap on

:22:38. > :22:43.the inside! And Laura Weightman is coming. Jenny Simpson! Laura

:22:44. > :22:50.Weightman takes fourth place, just ahead of the Moroccan. She judged

:22:51. > :23:04.that well and is smiling, she is into the final of the 1500m. She was

:23:05. > :23:07.not frightened by Hassan and Meraf Bahta. Laura Weightman ran

:23:08. > :23:19.unmeasured race and she has her reward. That was not a conventional

:23:20. > :23:25.way to qualify for a final, you can tell Laura Weightman that her coach

:23:26. > :23:29.was sweating. That was a very strange race went Konstanze

:23:30. > :23:33.Klosterhalfen went away, that is Laura Weightman putting pressure on

:23:34. > :23:41.the bike, Konstanze Klosterhalfen fading away, Hassan is powerful and

:23:42. > :23:45.Meraf Bahta is equally strong. She has to do this almighty run in the

:23:46. > :23:53.home straight and she is beginning to do it. Winny Chebet struggling.

:23:54. > :23:56.Accelerating and suddenly, thank goodness, Laura Weightman finding

:23:57. > :24:04.something in the last 50 metres. Sprinting through. So close to fifth

:24:05. > :24:10.place. And her nervous coach, Steve Cram, is delighted, as he should be

:24:11. > :24:14.but he will not have run many races like that because sometimes that can

:24:15. > :24:20.go wrong for you. Struggling for a little bit at the back but when she

:24:21. > :24:31.got into contention... Will, dear Alex Pike that was messy. -- old,

:24:32. > :24:39.dear. The first smart thing is not to go mad and we thought she was

:24:40. > :24:47.going hard but there were too many people for my liking, some great

:24:48. > :24:53.athletes, Besu Sado, Winny Chebet, everywhere there was danger but what

:24:54. > :25:00.you will know with Laura Weightman is she has guts, she is strong and

:25:01. > :25:04.she likes hard races and she has found some extra pace this year and

:25:05. > :25:10.that is what she did at the end, and for me, this is when you think she

:25:11. > :25:15.will dig deeper than anybody in the home straight, everybody does but

:25:16. > :25:20.she will fight to the line. In 2012 in London, she got to the final by

:25:21. > :25:24.100th of a second by sticking through and she is doing a little

:25:25. > :25:30.bit of the same today. She is watching that fast finish, to make

:25:31. > :25:35.your way through, into the final of the World Championships, she has

:25:36. > :25:38.been an two Olympic finals before. A little bit of applause and she is

:25:39. > :25:45.talking to fill. She has been watching the replay and she heard

:25:46. > :25:52.what Steve Cram was saying. We always have known you have had

:25:53. > :25:56.determination? This year I believe in myself more, I have never run a

:25:57. > :26:02.race like that before in my life. I knew it would take a great race and

:26:03. > :26:07.I cannot believe I did that! I was so nervous. But the stadium and the

:26:08. > :26:14.crowd is incredible, I knew I had to catch three or four. I was gaining

:26:15. > :26:22.places, to finish in fourth place, over the moon and so thrilled to

:26:23. > :26:26.make the final. And the role of that crowd, that was all for you? There

:26:27. > :26:30.is no greater feeling than competing in front of the home crowd, I love

:26:31. > :26:37.the stadium, I cannot wait for Monday. What can you achieve? After

:26:38. > :26:43.the race of your life tonight? Anything is possible if I keep

:26:44. > :26:47.believing in myself, the matter what happens, I will come out with a good

:26:48. > :26:57.performance. Well done, all the best. Safely through, there we are,

:26:58. > :27:03.confirmation... Jenny Simpson alongside running a very good race.

:27:04. > :27:17.Tidying things up. Sifan Hassan will be the favourite, Lecabela Quaresma,

:27:18. > :27:23.Laura Weightman. Sara Vaughn in ninth place. These are the finalists

:27:24. > :27:30.for Monday. Laura Muir, Caster Semenya is also in their and Jenny

:27:31. > :27:34.Simpson, Genzebe Dibaba will go through as one of the fastest

:27:35. > :27:39.losers. Completely out of sorts but she might have a chance to recover

:27:40. > :27:45.from Monday and Laura Weightman is also there. Next on the track, the

:27:46. > :27:51.longest of the Women's races, the 10,000 metres but we will know in

:27:52. > :27:59.two hours, who is a world champion over 100 metres. There is one man

:28:00. > :28:04.who feels he is pure gold. We first time, that is a good start from

:28:05. > :28:13.Powell, Usain Bolt streaking away from the field! That is superb, this

:28:14. > :28:22.is a new world record! Away they go, Usain Bolt going past already,

:28:23. > :28:30.blasting around the top bend, Shawn Crawford tried to handle him.

:28:31. > :28:36.Streaking down the home straight. What is a time? It is gold and a new

:28:37. > :28:47.world record. I do not believe it! Absolutely brilliant! Get set...

:28:48. > :28:51.Powell was the quickest but Usain Bolt is getting into his stride,

:28:52. > :29:05.pulling away, he is going to win the gold. 9.64, the champion becomes a

:29:06. > :29:13.legend. That is a clean start, Bolt out of the blocks really well, Blake

:29:14. > :29:18.has a lot to do, look at him go, three metres lead, coming into the

:29:19. > :29:24.home straight, here comes Yohan Blake but he will not catch on,

:29:25. > :29:34.Usain Bolt is going to do that. Gold all the way. 9.32. Bolt has been

:29:35. > :29:44.left in the blocks, Gatland is leading. Usain Bolt is going to take

:29:45. > :29:53.it! 9.80, the magnificent seven and the Odyssey continues! He gets away

:29:54. > :30:02.well. Already away, the grass is running well. Usain Bolt, on his

:30:03. > :30:07.own, as he has been throughout his career, running away from everybody.

:30:08. > :30:11.Running to what he would love to be able to do as an athlete. This is a

:30:12. > :30:20.gold medal, his eighth gold. Six individual gold medals in his

:30:21. > :30:25.Olympic career, we will never see his like again. Sun setting on his

:30:26. > :30:30.career tonight. The stadium grappling with anticipation. He is

:30:31. > :30:34.in the final, one hour and 45 minutes away, the last time he will

:30:35. > :30:40.be on the blocks in a major championship. Doubts always around

:30:41. > :30:44.him at this level, but it is about his attitude and pressure. Is he up

:30:45. > :30:50.for it? He certainly looks up for it. Who will challenge him all the

:30:51. > :30:56.way? Christian Coleman, maybe Reece Prescod of Great Britain. But he

:30:57. > :31:01.always seems to know how to win. That final is at 9:45 p:m.. It is

:31:02. > :31:08.Bolt night and also heptathlon evening as well, the shop but under

:31:09. > :31:12.way. The 200m coming up shortly and the men's Long Jump final is around

:31:13. > :31:18.the corner. And there is a man in the House tonight who is not out

:31:19. > :31:21.there jumping, but he certainly put himself into athletics and World

:31:22. > :31:29.Athletics Championships history, he is the reigning World Champion.

:31:30. > :31:35.Olympic glory came first, followed by a European title and Commonwealth

:31:36. > :31:37.gold last summer. Out in front at the World Championships. And he

:31:38. > :31:46.looks set to complete the set. In the fourth round, he is looking to

:31:47. > :31:50.extend his lead. That is big. That is a huge jump. It is a mammoth

:31:51. > :32:00.jump. Greg Rutherford in the fourth round. The pressure was on. 8.41, a

:32:01. > :32:08.seasoned's best. Rutherford takes gold here in the Bird's Nest.

:32:09. > :32:14.Rutherford completes his Grand Slam. It is unbelievable!

:32:15. > :32:21.Are not many more people that have crammed more into the last five

:32:22. > :32:25.years this man. The smile is still broad despite the injury and they

:32:26. > :32:30.all still be in the stadium! If you want to swing round to look at this

:32:31. > :32:34.lot. The Greg Rutherford fans in the House. This man will spend every

:32:35. > :32:37.single moment he can signing autographs and taking pictures, he

:32:38. > :32:40.is a gentleman. Let's start positively and talk about the

:32:41. > :32:46.memories of this place from 2012. They must come flooding back? Yes,

:32:47. > :32:50.the most amazing thing being here every day, this crowd is about

:32:51. > :32:54.27,000 people less than it was five years ago that it feels louder.

:32:55. > :32:59.Every moment I see a Long Jump are warming up and getting ready to go,

:33:00. > :33:04.I am just desperate to put on my kit and say, don't worry, I am here, I

:33:05. > :33:07.am ready. Sadly, it is not to be. This is a new experience for me

:33:08. > :33:12.being injured and is talking about it rather than being in it. But this

:33:13. > :33:15.place is one of the most wonderful tracks in the world and I am

:33:16. > :33:20.thrilled I can be here in some capacity. Everybody loves watching

:33:21. > :33:31.this, EU more than anybody. Those images. You got two babies now, but

:33:32. > :33:35.the time of your life? Definitely, I look a lot younger and I had more

:33:36. > :33:40.sleep, you can see by the face. A bit more grisly, I am ageing

:33:41. > :33:43.quickly! London 2012, for me, is the defining moment of my career and the

:33:44. > :33:49.greatest moment ever in my career. Having my children is more

:33:50. > :33:52.important, obviously, but athletically, you aim to become one

:33:53. > :33:56.of the best in the world. That is what every single British athlete

:33:57. > :33:59.wants to do. Every athlete wants to become the best in the world and I

:34:00. > :34:04.have been very fortunate I have had my time doing that. It is not over,

:34:05. > :34:07.a very keen to come back and the fire in my belly watching this over

:34:08. > :34:11.here and getting ready to go is getting me going. If he had a

:34:12. > :34:16.jacket, he would be unzipping it now and ready to go. You are desperate

:34:17. > :34:21.to be at the anniversary Games and performing here and you held of the

:34:22. > :34:24.decision. Why could you not be out here performing? Sadly, this year

:34:25. > :34:30.has been one of those old-fashioned Greg Rutherford years and I have

:34:31. > :34:33.been dogged with injury. I had an injury in my back which caused

:34:34. > :34:40.problems. And the ones that have been documented more recently, two

:34:41. > :34:45.ligaments in my ankle popped. That is less than ideal when you need to

:34:46. > :34:48.run down a runway and jump. There is a hernia in migraine. Some tracking

:34:49. > :34:55.them up this year! Very keen to see the back of them. I will have to go

:34:56. > :35:01.for surgery on the train. I have been in this situation before. After

:35:02. > :35:05.rehab, get ready for next year. Been there and done it and you will come

:35:06. > :35:10.again. But the disappointment is we will not have either of the last two

:35:11. > :35:14.Olympic gold-medallist because Jeff Hansen went out yesterday, so what

:35:15. > :35:17.do you make of the competition here? If you are competing, you would win

:35:18. > :35:24.easily, but who should we look out for? This is a fascinating Long

:35:25. > :35:28.Jump. I think the favourite has to be Luvo Manyonga, he has been

:35:29. > :35:30.jumping so well and he is on something we all hoped, jumping

:35:31. > :35:34.regularly over 850 at the start of the year and that is important to

:35:35. > :35:39.boost the event. Henderson is out, but he is one of the only ones left

:35:40. > :35:44.with experience of winning a major championships. Without him, it mixes

:35:45. > :35:49.it up. I spoke to Dwight Phillips and former Olympic champion from

:35:50. > :35:53.2004 and he reckons Lawson has that but he is American and he would

:35:54. > :35:59.always say that! A spicy bentonite. If it is any consolation, you will

:36:00. > :36:04.not be competing but at least I get to watch this with my friend which I

:36:05. > :36:10.never thought I would get to do. Very quickly. Beyond this, you are

:36:11. > :36:16.having the surgery, have you put any timeline on when we might see you

:36:17. > :36:20.compete and jump again? Yes, absolutely, I will take the indoors

:36:21. > :36:22.seriously for once and when you get ready for the summer coming you

:36:23. > :36:27.train through the winter, but I am going for it and there is the World

:36:28. > :36:30.Indoor Championships. I held all four outdoor Championships and they

:36:31. > :36:35.do not have the two indoors. There is a world and it European Indoors

:36:36. > :36:41.and if I can win those two, there is nothing I have not won and that

:36:42. > :36:46.motivates me. That is a target, a UK comeback. We will have the wires go

:36:47. > :36:53.into Grant Brie possibly and you might see me jumping. Dashed the

:36:54. > :37:00.Glasgow Grand Prix. Meanwhile, we have a Long Jump.

:37:01. > :37:05.Good to have you back. That World Championships, the indoors, it is in

:37:06. > :37:09.Birmingham in March. So exciting Greg says he will jump indoors

:37:10. > :37:13.because we do not see that very often and he has the intention of

:37:14. > :37:20.coming back into big-time, tuition. Looking forward to the women's

:37:21. > :37:24.10,000m in a fume moments. Paula is definitely the person to talk to

:37:25. > :37:28.about that. But Laura Weightman, that was a gutsy run and she said it

:37:29. > :37:34.well, I'm not normally picking people of like that on the home

:37:35. > :37:38.straight. No, Maura is discovering that about herself. She has

:37:39. > :37:43.discovered she is quicker than she thought she was this year. -- Laura.

:37:44. > :37:45.She was digging deep as she always does and you was finding something

:37:46. > :37:56.and she was seeing something coming back, she saw Klosterhalfen coming

:37:57. > :37:59.back. But she went away from her in the last ten metres. We'll have done

:38:00. > :38:07.her confidence so much good for the final. She just wants to go in and

:38:08. > :38:11.have fun and see what she can do. That is a race that is a nightmare.

:38:12. > :38:15.Seemingly no plan. And so you can easily get eaten up in a race like

:38:16. > :38:19.that through no fault of your own. That is the kind of race where if

:38:20. > :38:24.you are not calm and you have not got your stuffed together, you

:38:25. > :38:28.really get into trouble. People going at the front really hard and

:38:29. > :38:33.is dying and coming back quickly. People falling over. And chipping.

:38:34. > :38:36.She needed to keep out of trouble and stay on her feet and keep

:38:37. > :38:39.fighting freight route of the last minute. The most important thing you

:38:40. > :38:47.can do in a round is keep fighting until the last round. A double order

:38:48. > :38:51.Laura which is fantastic news and it be an incredible race, Laura Muir

:38:52. > :38:58.raced beautifully and she sailed through to the final. The women

:38:59. > :39:04.coming out for the 10,000m. The name on the page jumping out every time

:39:05. > :39:11.is Tirunesh Dibaba. Twice Olympic champion, like Mo Farah. She is also

:39:12. > :39:15.an Arsenal fan like Mo Farah. She does not have the doubles record but

:39:16. > :39:22.imperious at the 10K, you can beat her tonight? Ayana can and she did

:39:23. > :39:25.so commit singly in Rio last year. I have not seen either of them race

:39:26. > :39:31.this year on the track. We need to get an idea how they are looking

:39:32. > :39:36.over the first couple of laps. Is it going to go off as quickly as Rio?

:39:37. > :39:40.That was the fastest championship final and probably race we have ever

:39:41. > :39:46.seen. Ayana had the most incredible race and that was a morning session

:39:47. > :39:54.in Rio. A very unusual 10K final. This is the most traditional place.

:39:55. > :40:00.Tirunesh Dibaba might as well be wearing a crown, distance running

:40:01. > :40:03.royalty. Yes, when she first came onto the scenes, for so many years

:40:04. > :40:11.we called her the baby faced destroyer. Is 31 now and it seems

:40:12. > :40:15.that she has been around forever because she was winning major

:40:16. > :40:18.championships in 2004, 2,000 five. She has changed and she has been

:40:19. > :40:22.away and started a family, but still coming back extremely strong and she

:40:23. > :40:33.probably ran fastest and surprised herself with health asked she went

:40:34. > :40:38.in Riyadh last year with 29.42. It would be destined because Ayana runs

:40:39. > :40:43.so hard and so quick. This is the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and making

:40:44. > :40:50.it look very straightforward, the five K victory. Yes, she did. She

:40:51. > :40:54.dominates and she has the Arsenal, very like Mo Farah over the 10,000m.

:40:55. > :40:59.But he does not win by that kind of margin. No, he likes to leave it a

:41:00. > :41:03.bit later. She does not launch an attack until late in the race, but

:41:04. > :41:08.she does it with such speed and so much better than the rest of the

:41:09. > :41:12.field in so many races that she just moves away and has a large cushion

:41:13. > :41:16.by the end of the race. As always with the 10,000m, there will be

:41:17. > :41:18.races within a race. Plenty to get your teeth stuck into, Brendan

:41:19. > :41:27.Foster and Steve Cram. Intriguing race in prospect, one of

:41:28. > :41:31.the all-time greats, Tirunesh Dibaba. Ayana would love to be

:41:32. > :41:36.considered in that position eventually, but if she bit? How has

:41:37. > :41:41.her injury affected her? Is there anybody in this very good Kenyan

:41:42. > :41:46.team capable of upsetting the Ethiopian script? And what about

:41:47. > :41:53.surprise medals? We saw Emily Infeld pipping Molly Huddle last time, the

:41:54. > :42:00.two Americans in a scrap for third and fourth. Infeld celebrating a

:42:01. > :42:06.little early, the drama unfolding behind the front two. A lot to look

:42:07. > :42:10.forward to, really good conditions for the 10,000m run. If there is

:42:11. > :42:17.such a thing. One of those sentences you should never release a! And we

:42:18. > :42:25.have got Beth Potter in this. -- never really say. Now moving on to

:42:26. > :42:41.the Triathlon. Charlotte Taylor. Trying to look down the line. There

:42:42. > :42:47.is better. -- Bath. And Jess Martin. Anyway, Tirunesh Dibaba introduced

:42:48. > :42:55.to the crowd. I don't think they do too much together nowadays. There is

:42:56. > :42:59.Dibaba and she is fine and fit and healthy and training well. We heard

:43:00. > :43:07.the rumours she has not been going quite so well. We shall see very

:43:08. > :43:18.shortly. So these Kenyans will be hoping they can take it on. Jebet

:43:19. > :43:23.Tirop. A youngster really when she won the championships, 21 now. She

:43:24. > :43:29.has not got the fast times. All three Kenyan is capable of running

:43:30. > :43:35.fast. Yasemin Can face Laura Muir at the Indoor Championships in March.

:43:36. > :43:43.There is Jess Martin on the back row. The third of the British

:43:44. > :43:49.athletes. And world cross-country champion Irene Chepet Cheptai, this

:43:50. > :43:56.time in Kampala. The Ethiopians did have a trial which I went to. And

:43:57. > :44:04.the top three, they just ignored and they have got Tirunesh Dibaba and

:44:05. > :44:10.Ayana. But are they fit and healthy? The women's 10,000m final. 25 laps

:44:11. > :44:17.of the track and we had Mo Farah to chair last night. With all due

:44:18. > :44:24.respect, Beth and Jess and Charlotte, the crowd will be once

:44:25. > :44:30.more looking forward to a real tussle tweet Ethiopian and Kenya but

:44:31. > :44:35.can anyone else get in amongst it? -- between. We had a world record,

:44:36. > :44:39.Brendan, in Rio last year. I don't think we will get I don't think we

:44:40. > :44:44.will get a world-record tonight, but we did not think we would get one in

:44:45. > :44:50.Rio. It took us by surprise as we went round. Tonight, real drama in

:44:51. > :44:54.the 10,000m last night and drama in this event in the later stages. Not

:44:55. > :45:00.as much British interest at the sharp end, I feel. There definitely

:45:01. > :45:04.will not be. And trying to sort themselves out, they look as though

:45:05. > :45:07.they are doing two laps of the track before they go on to the marathon

:45:08. > :45:15.course, just jogging around and taking it easy.

:45:16. > :45:24.Tirunesh Dibaba essay, the five times world champion on the outside

:45:25. > :45:27.and they go, steady, almost jogging, but eventually they will get going

:45:28. > :45:44.and the race will really take off. Here are the finalists for the Men's

:45:45. > :45:52.long jump, Greg Rutherford watching on. This is a very mixed group of

:45:53. > :46:02.continents. Asian, European, Africans. Yuhao Shi rounding things

:46:03. > :46:12.off, just 18 years old. The only American left in there is Jarrion

:46:13. > :46:18.Lawson, he went out in qualifying. Fouled in the last round of Rio with

:46:19. > :46:29.his hand, and it potentially was the gold medal winning jump. The lead is

:46:30. > :46:42.7.80 nine. 428 secret. Fast on the approach. That is big. 23 years old,

:46:43. > :46:47.Greg Rutherford mentioned him as a contender for the title. They know

:46:48. > :46:55.the South Africans are strong. But Jarrion Lawson... Cutting the

:46:56. > :47:05.Sandwell into eight metres. That looks in excess of even 8.40. Very

:47:06. > :47:13.good balance and rhythm, that was a very tidy first round. Exactly what

:47:14. > :47:18.he would have wanted. And that is a season best, 8.37. Looking back at

:47:19. > :47:28.one of the earlier jobs. Luvo Manyonga. Is that the scream of the

:47:29. > :47:35.champion in the making? He has troubled background. He came from

:47:36. > :47:39.poverty in South Africa, losing out on Olympic gold by just one

:47:40. > :47:51.centimetre and that is a big jump but red flag. That was the earlier

:47:52. > :47:56.jump, look at this, qualifying yesterday. He is very good on the

:47:57. > :48:03.board, look at him driving his knees, great position of his heels,

:48:04. > :48:04.keeping his upper body upright and does not rotate and crash into the

:48:05. > :48:26.pit. That was 81 seconds, this is more

:48:27. > :48:37.like a marathon. And not even a very fast marathon! They went through the

:48:38. > :48:42.first kilometre in what would mean 35 minutes for 10,000 metres. People

:48:43. > :48:49.at home might think they could do that! That is OK, 10,000 metres does

:48:50. > :48:55.not always have to be so fast, it has one of the greatest proponents,

:48:56. > :49:01.Tirunesh Dibaba, her first title in 2003 in Paris, where she is, I have

:49:02. > :49:05.always enjoyed watching her and I remember looking at some film of

:49:06. > :49:12.action, just the way she runs, so efficient. Somebody said she

:49:13. > :49:20.eventually would end up as a great marathon runner and we are starting

:49:21. > :49:24.to see that. 14 years, top of the world, winning 5000 metres and

:49:25. > :49:30.10,000 metres titles and this burgeoning marathon career. When he

:49:31. > :49:36.was your style, I was watching her and she does not look very good at

:49:37. > :49:41.this pace. She looks good at a proper pace and she was shuffling

:49:42. > :49:44.along, but looking like anything special and deciding she was a

:49:45. > :49:54.little bit bored with this but remember in London? The 2.17

:49:55. > :50:02.marathon, coming in and winning in the 10,000 metres, only running two

:50:03. > :50:07.marathons in her life, both in London, she loves running here and

:50:08. > :50:13.she appreciates the British crowd and she has the most medals of any

:50:14. > :50:20.female athlete in the history of the World Championships, and going all

:50:21. > :50:24.the way back to 2003, arriving as an unknown Ethiopian and she has been

:50:25. > :50:29.called the Queen of distance running and that is a title she carries

:50:30. > :50:38.pretty well. In Manchester, wedding 10,000 metres pretty easily and in

:50:39. > :50:43.London and I am sure she will run well tonight but whether she will

:50:44. > :50:49.win or not, that is why we are here. Watching Michel Torneus moving

:50:50. > :50:53.around. There she goes. For the first time coming to the front. I

:50:54. > :51:01.think the first question for a lot of people watching is, is Almaz

:51:02. > :51:08.Ayana OK? That is 3.20 eight. Early stages. Very slow, maybe some pace

:51:09. > :51:17.being introduced but we have a cracking long jump final going on.

:51:18. > :51:21.Yes, really hotting up. Ruswahl Samaai, lifetime best, the

:51:22. > :51:27.second-ranked South African behind Luvo Manyonga, who had that foul

:51:28. > :51:36.earlier on. The first round. Chasing that lead of Jarrion Lawson. And

:51:37. > :51:42.that is big. That is over eight metres. That is a good start for

:51:43. > :51:46.Ruswahl Samaai. Buying in the Olympics last year. Second on the

:51:47. > :51:53.world list this year behind his team-mate. And he has made the

:51:54. > :52:02.better start. He carried the speed onto the board, that suspension.

:52:03. > :52:08.Only eight centimetres to spare, that is a great shot, working hard

:52:09. > :52:13.to counter the rotation and stretching as far as he can into the

:52:14. > :52:23.sand. Disappearing out of shot. Second place, 8.25. Here is the past

:52:24. > :52:30.champion, the winner in 2013, Vanessa Chefer, one of a handful of

:52:31. > :52:36.athletes who are competing as neutral because of the blanket ban

:52:37. > :52:41.on the Russian team. He was cleared by the review board in July so he

:52:42. > :52:48.has got himself ready. Can he retain his title? He is ever so bouncy

:52:49. > :52:55.whenever he gets things right. And this is a demonstration. His

:52:56. > :52:59.season's best is 8.32. Unbeaten this year but has not been outside of

:53:00. > :53:05.Russia. He has competed with all sorts of injuries over the years,

:53:06. > :53:12.and he is one to take very seriously. That was a big first

:53:13. > :53:21.round. Nothing blistering. Aleksandr Menkov is still favourite, the lead

:53:22. > :53:29.is Jarrion Lawson with 8.37. And he goes into second place with 8.27.

:53:30. > :53:43.Here is a little look at the discus earlier on. Look at that. Close to

:53:44. > :53:52.70 metres from Daniel Stahl. Enormous distance. For this big

:53:53. > :54:01.band, two metres tall and 50 kilos. He really retains his width. He is

:54:02. > :54:09.very consistent this year. 69.19, going into the lead, was Daniel

:54:10. > :54:18.Stahl. The Lithuanian was second best. He then did this! Look at

:54:19. > :54:26.that! Almost bang on the 70 metres line. Just shy of an enormous

:54:27. > :54:29.championship record from Andrius Gudzius and that took the lead in

:54:30. > :54:37.the second round. And it is still the lead as we get to the end of the

:54:38. > :54:42.final of the discus. Andrius Gudzius ahead of Daniel Stahl and a lifetime

:54:43. > :54:51.best from Mason Finley. What a time to do it! Back to the long jump.

:54:52. > :54:58.Their main man, Luvo Manyonga, what is going through his mind after that

:54:59. > :55:05.foul? We didn't get to see how much of a foul that was. But Lawson is

:55:06. > :55:09.very quick, collegiate champion, Luvo Manyonga is the fastest on the

:55:10. > :55:19.runway so far so let us see how they can pull things together. 8.65 is

:55:20. > :55:26.his world lead. What has he got in the second round? That did look a

:55:27. > :55:34.little bit tight but that is big. Way beyond the lead of Jarrion

:55:35. > :55:39.Lawson. That looks closer to nine metres and eight metres. I thought

:55:40. > :55:44.he looked tight on the take-off. Out look at how calm and collected he

:55:45. > :55:57.was, getting out of the sand and winking at the coach. He gathered

:55:58. > :56:01.himself. Perfect board. With six centimetres despair, what a

:56:02. > :56:10.wonderful shot of that hitch kick, that was huge from Luvo Manyonga.

:56:11. > :56:21.8.48, taking the lead in the second round.

:56:22. > :56:30.So, Luvo Manyonga, relief after that foul. Order is recent. And order has

:56:31. > :56:36.resumed in the 10,000 metres final. The first 3000 metres have been

:56:37. > :56:39.pretty pedestrian, almost ten minutes, and the pace picked up and

:56:40. > :56:48.all of a sudden things have been broken up, guess who? The world

:56:49. > :56:59.record-holder, Ayana, throwing in a quick lap, this is about 300 metres

:57:00. > :57:06.of hard running. And the other Kenyan who has that gap. Because

:57:07. > :57:13.Tirunesh Dibaba was slow to react, she would not have that acceleration

:57:14. > :57:24.and Ayana decided enough is enough, that is 68, Matlab, they were going

:57:25. > :57:32.so slow. As a distance runners sweep past, you big man, Daniel Stahl,

:57:33. > :57:36.gets ready for his last attempt, trailing Andrius Gudzius from

:57:37. > :57:43.Lithuania, both over 69 metres. This has been awesome but Daniel Stahl

:57:44. > :57:49.needs to find more to take the gold medal. Another big hit? It stalled

:57:50. > :58:00.badly and has dropped short of 65 metres. Silver for Daniel Stahl. And

:58:01. > :58:04.that is the champion. Muted celebration, he has another through,

:58:05. > :58:10.you maybe would have expected the big man to challenge the lead. That

:58:11. > :58:18.pat on the bike from the Swede. He is happy with second, Daniel Stahl

:58:19. > :58:29.was expected to take the title. And Andrius Gudzius, huge lifetime best.

:58:30. > :58:35.69.20 one. Two centimetres ahead of Daniel Stahl. The pleasure of

:58:36. > :58:40.walking into the cage, knowing he is champion of the world. What a

:58:41. > :58:47.wonderful feeling this must be, looking at the championship record.

:58:48. > :58:55.What has he got? Another big throw for Andrius Gudzius. Enormous! Maybe

:58:56. > :59:09.not quite as far as his best, he did not quite like it. 69.2 one. And he

:59:10. > :59:19.takes gold from Lithuania. -- 69.20 one. And this is the chasing group.

:59:20. > :59:24.Chasing for third. Beth moving onto triathlon with success already,

:59:25. > :59:34.winning in Cardiff are delighted to win the British championships. Based

:59:35. > :59:39.in Leeds. They are picking up, a lot of them tried to go whenever the

:59:40. > :59:44.race broke up. The leader is on the far side, the world record-holder

:59:45. > :59:50.and Olympic champion has ripped the supplied. Almaz Ayana has stolen a

:59:51. > :59:59.march and it is more than that, racing away and add a superbly quick

:00:00. > :00:08.pace, the sort of pace you would not see in the 5000 that kilometre,

:00:09. > :00:10.2.49, no wonder even the great Tirunesh Dibaba has attempted that.

:00:11. > :00:20.They cannot go with this. Nobody can live with the pace of the

:00:21. > :00:24.world-record holder. Her first race of the season, waiting to see her

:00:25. > :00:28.arrival. She was supposed to run a race and it was cancelled. She was

:00:29. > :00:33.supposed to run recently in Monte Carlo and that was cancelled and

:00:34. > :00:36.here she is now after training in Ethiopian, another 68 second lap.

:00:37. > :00:47.Running so much faster than the early part of the race. In the

:00:48. > :00:52.chasing group, Dibaba has caught up. And looking down the field, there is

:00:53. > :00:59.the leading British athlete Beth Potter. And it is a strange race.

:01:00. > :01:06.But this is a very impressive athlete. Great piece of frontrunning

:01:07. > :01:13.and Paula will be enjoying this in the studio. That has ripped the race

:01:14. > :01:19.apart. No one can go with that, it is within the world-record pace. No

:01:20. > :01:22.wonder she is so far ahead. It is faster over three kilometres the

:01:23. > :01:32.most of these girls are capable of running. So no wonder she has not

:01:33. > :01:37.been challenged. Can did and she is paying the price. Tirunesh Dibaba

:01:38. > :01:42.never reacted. Almost as though she knew what the plan was and what

:01:43. > :01:45.Ayana was trying to do and she decided to wait and run the race for

:01:46. > :01:53.the silver medal and she has got herself into that pack fighting for

:01:54. > :02:03.the silver medal. Yes, just on the back there. I was hesitating on

:02:04. > :02:08.Alice Aprot Nawowuna. She took Ayana on on the first half of the race and

:02:09. > :02:12.she faded as Ayana kicked on and got faster and faster to that incredible

:02:13. > :02:17.world-record. Look at the gap she has. This is phenomenal. I bought

:02:18. > :02:20.these three Kenyans might give her a race for her money but that is not

:02:21. > :02:29.the case, they have had to let her go. She is way out in front and it

:02:30. > :02:32.is about silver and Bronze. Nobody in the history of distance running

:02:33. > :02:35.could have lived with her over the last couple of laps. We do not know

:02:36. > :02:40.what will happen in the later stages as we get the laps ticked off, but

:02:41. > :02:44.running remarkably quickly. And she did something similar in the felt

:02:45. > :02:49.thousand metres in Rio and they did catch her and she did come back. --

:02:50. > :02:53.5,000 metres. Now there is only one thing standing between her and

:02:54. > :03:00.victory, her own application. Going so much quicker, so far away from

:03:01. > :03:06.this field, she has destroyed them. Destroyed this field. Can she keep

:03:07. > :03:15.going chasing that group, Tirunesh Dibaba?

:03:16. > :03:28.Right, Jarrion Lawson is in second place behind that Nick Abbot of Luvo

:03:29. > :03:39.Manyonga. The American. 11 centimetres behind. That is a season

:03:40. > :03:49.best, massive crowd. Very supportive of the Long Jump despite the absence

:03:50. > :03:58.of Greg Rutherford. Lawson, round two. That is another big effort.

:03:59. > :04:02.This may challenge the lead of Japan -- Luvo Manyonga. What a competition

:04:03. > :04:14.in the early stages. Six jumps for the top eight. Wilson may have

:04:15. > :04:19.extended the lead of Manyonga on the Gold line, the South African.

:04:20. > :04:26.Perfect on the board. He has got his eye on it and orientated himself

:04:27. > :04:29.well. Jarrion Lawson is putting together a good series of jumps

:04:30. > :04:37.here. That bodes well for the rest of the competition. 8.43, a season's

:04:38. > :04:43.best again in the second round. This is a young man we got to know a

:04:44. > :04:49.couple of years ago, he took the Bronze medal in the last World

:04:50. > :04:57.Championships, Jianan Wang. He is 20 now. 8.14 in the first round. Round

:04:58. > :05:04.two, good on the board, that is a big effort. Wang is putting himself

:05:05. > :05:13.in contention. Lots of athletes fancying Bess. It could go a number

:05:14. > :05:18.of ways. The Chinese looking good. It is interesting the man in the

:05:19. > :05:24.yellow Hat, Huntington, the coach Turner Mike Powell. Perfect on the

:05:25. > :05:32.board. Keeps his technique nice and simple. And body up in the,

:05:33. > :05:37.stretches out. Holds his chest up. Just drops up behind his feet. There

:05:38. > :05:44.is more to come, this competition is hotting up. 8.23, in fifth place in

:05:45. > :05:53.the second round, it is tough out there. This is the celebration for

:05:54. > :05:59.the discus. The big man from Lithuania in the middle, with a

:06:00. > :06:09.massive lifetime best, Gudzius. Daniel Stahl had to settle for

:06:10. > :06:15.silver. A beautiful sunset over the East End of London. I'm looking

:06:16. > :06:19.towards this fantastic venue. And the excitement that we had here last

:06:20. > :06:26.night is building again for Usain Bolt. This 10,000m final has got

:06:27. > :06:31.people enthralled because the world-record holder and the Olympic

:06:32. > :06:35.champion Ayana has put so much distance between herself and this

:06:36. > :06:44.incredible field. Now almost half a lap ahead of the pack. She has just

:06:45. > :06:49.run 3,000 metres in about 8.33 in the middle of a 10,000. Unbelievable

:06:50. > :06:53.distance running. We have seen something tonight the like of which

:06:54. > :06:58.you have never seen before. Never seen anybody destroy a field as she

:06:59. > :07:04.has done. The slow and early pace and she picked it up and picked it

:07:05. > :07:07.up. You look at that time, Steve, the 3,000 metres time in the middle

:07:08. > :07:12.and you wonder, can she possibly keep going at this pace? When you

:07:13. > :07:17.look at this field, you have two world cross-country Championships,

:07:18. > :07:23.the steadfast is 10,000 metre runner in their and five times World

:07:24. > :07:27.Champion Tirunesh Dibaba. And when she looks across the track, and you

:07:28. > :07:34.will see how far she is. There is the chasing group down the home

:07:35. > :07:40.straight. And there she is. Halfway round the top bend. When she gets

:07:41. > :07:43.back down, she will be able to look down the track which lay and look

:07:44. > :07:49.across and right opposite when she gets to the halfway line, they will

:07:50. > :07:54.be passing the halfway line on the other side. I think she is going for

:07:55. > :08:01.the new world-record, which is the record number of athletes slapped. I

:08:02. > :08:11.will ask our word. The stitch and to find out. -- the number of athletes

:08:12. > :08:14.lapped. The group after that, the Kenyans and Dibaba, the rest of the

:08:15. > :08:22.athletes are within her sights and she is using them to keep her pace

:08:23. > :08:28.going. So Ayana looking more tired but she has so many athletes to a

:08:29. > :08:33.mat with five laps to go. I reckon these four might be the only four

:08:34. > :08:36.she does not lap. She has come halfway down the home straight as

:08:37. > :08:41.they have gone down the back straight. That is the chasing group,

:08:42. > :08:46.the fifth fastest 10,000m run of all time is leading that and Ayana is

:08:47. > :08:48.looking at the screen. She will not get too much information because the

:08:49. > :08:55.athletes are spread around the track. Last night, we saw a

:08:56. > :08:59.fantastic distance race. Competitive distance race and a great victory by

:09:00. > :09:03.Mo Farah. Seeing the other end of the scale of distance running here.

:09:04. > :09:09.Anna beat destroying a field and running at the sort of pace we have

:09:10. > :09:13.never seen anybody run before in the middle of a 10,000m race -- an

:09:14. > :09:18.athlete destroying. They are helping her now because she is working her

:09:19. > :09:22.way through and when she comes past, look how well she is going and how

:09:23. > :09:28.strongly. We are witnessing the night, Steve, one of the greatest

:09:29. > :09:38.distance runs in history. A world-record in Rio, because

:09:39. > :09:46.Nawowuna went out hard and she couldn't maintain it, but Ayana

:09:47. > :09:49.could. Tonight, the first part of the race was pedestrian. It started

:09:50. > :10:01.to pick up slightly and away she went. The last one was a 2.54. She

:10:02. > :10:06.is getting tired. But it is the distance she has put between herself

:10:07. > :10:14.and this other group who are the best in the world. The best of the

:10:15. > :10:19.rest. And they are now 230, 240 metres behind Ayana. I think she is

:10:20. > :10:22.going to win the gold medal, I wonder whether the 5,000 metres is

:10:23. > :10:26.within her site and whether she starts to think about that. The

:10:27. > :10:32.harder she goes here, the more recovery she needs to make. She has

:10:33. > :10:36.got this race won, she looks comfortable, she is slowing a bit, I

:10:37. > :10:40.wonder whether she is going to go back for the 5,000 later in the

:10:41. > :10:44.week. Looking at the screen all the time and all she will see on the

:10:45. > :10:49.screen is herself. There is no other athlete in the shot. She is halfway

:10:50. > :10:57.down the home straight. The other athletes are not even halfway down

:10:58. > :11:02.the back straight. She three laps to go for Ayana, and we are witnessing

:11:03. > :11:05.a little piece of history. The final time the statistics will only show

:11:06. > :11:13.how good this was when we analyse it. We are lucky, we have got Mark

:11:14. > :11:16.Butler, the top statistician in the world, giving us this information.

:11:17. > :11:20.And he says we are witnessing a piece of history. She does not need

:11:21. > :11:25.to run now, there is the body, that is Ayana. Looking in front of me and

:11:26. > :11:31.the other athletes are just coming in. The far side of the track,

:11:32. > :11:36.Ayana. Nearside of the track is the chasing group. Tirunesh Dibaba in

:11:37. > :11:39.fourth place. And in the history of distance running, Tirunesh Dibaba

:11:40. > :11:44.has never been beaten by this much in her history which started in

:11:45. > :11:48.2003. She won five gold medals, she has run great races and average

:11:49. > :11:54.races, she is running an OK race tonight but she is some -- seeing

:11:55. > :12:00.something she has never seen before. You are right. Last year, although

:12:01. > :12:04.she was distant from Ayana, she was only 25 seconds behind her. It is

:12:05. > :12:09.going to be more like five is -- 45 seconds this time. I still think

:12:10. > :12:15.Ayana may not lap the rest of them before this chasing group because

:12:16. > :12:20.that is definitely slowing down, but what a performance from Ayana. The

:12:21. > :12:24.speech she is moving that in contrast to the other 10,000m

:12:25. > :12:28.runners. And don't forget, these are the best in the world. You have the

:12:29. > :12:33.Kenyans and the Ethiopians, they are the best from around the world. And

:12:34. > :12:37.they are getting completely pulled apart by Ayana. It must be soul

:12:38. > :12:42.destroying, these are decent athlete and Ayana is coming past at a pace

:12:43. > :12:46.they can't relate to. Looking at her now, she looks as though she is

:12:47. > :12:54.running slightly downhill, she is going so well, she is absolutely

:12:55. > :12:57.brilliant here. Look at how she is passing them, look at how quickly

:12:58. > :13:02.the gap opens. I was talking to her manager yesterday and I said, how is

:13:03. > :13:06.she running? He said, don't worry, she will almost be as good as she

:13:07. > :13:13.was last year in Rio. Well, you got this one right! She is coming round

:13:14. > :13:19.now this time and she is hearing the bell. Superb piece of frontrunning

:13:20. > :13:25.by Ayana. Plenty of athletes and some have moved to get -- to let her

:13:26. > :13:32.through. A race between Agnes Tirop on the inside and Dibaba just

:13:33. > :13:35.hanging in there. In the days of old, Dibaba would have unleashed a

:13:36. > :13:39.great sprint on the last lap to win a gold medal but it is her

:13:40. > :13:43.team-mates doing it this time. Dibaba borehole to get a medal and

:13:44. > :13:50.join her on the rostrum. But we have time to savour Ayana -- Dibaba will

:13:51. > :13:56.hope to get a medal. Having destroyed the field and shown a new

:13:57. > :14:01.level of distance running, nothing to worry about except she will enjoy

:14:02. > :14:05.the Wells title but she will collect in a few yards time, and a great

:14:06. > :14:09.race going on behind her, but she does not care. The crowd is rising

:14:10. > :14:17.to a wonderful piece of distance running. The Olympic champion, the

:14:18. > :14:27.world-record holder, Ayana of Ethiopian is now the World Champion!

:14:28. > :14:32.Fabulous running and look at Tirunesh Dibaba now, reminding us of

:14:33. > :14:38.the great days when she would run for gold, this time she is trying to

:14:39. > :14:42.run for silver. Agnes Tirop is hanging on to her, the age-old

:14:43. > :14:47.battle of Ethiopian versus Kenya. They have dropped their team-mate,

:14:48. > :14:52.so these two will get a medal, who is going to get the silver? Dibaba

:14:53. > :14:57.takes a look at the screen and she sees Tirop is still bad. Does Tirop

:14:58. > :15:01.have anything else? Dibaba not as quick as she used to be, but she

:15:02. > :15:06.might be quick enough. Tirunesh Dibaba is going to make it an

:15:07. > :15:15.Ethiopian one and two in the 10,000m. Silver for Dibaba. Tirop

:15:16. > :15:21.takes the Bronze for Kenya, but a long way behind the winner Ayana.

:15:22. > :15:28.In big sprinting for the lesser places from almost all the other

:15:29. > :15:34.athletes, probably only six or seven of them were not lapped by Ayana and

:15:35. > :15:40.she only started running after eight laps but my goodness she did and I

:15:41. > :15:48.am delighted for Tirunesh Dibaba, that little smile, giving Ayana that

:15:49. > :15:55.little hug. Any questions about the fitness of Ayana completely blown

:15:56. > :15:59.away. Stunning performance, and a different way to last year when she

:16:00. > :16:05.broke a world record but in many ways just as impressive. Ephemeral

:16:06. > :16:11.the impressive distance performance by Ayana, a delightful performance

:16:12. > :16:15.by Dibaba in second place, another gold medal for Ethiopia and the

:16:16. > :16:26.British athlete, Beth Potter, coming through right now. Her career might

:16:27. > :16:30.unfold at the triathlon. That was a strong performance on an evening

:16:31. > :16:34.when everything went into second place with a performance the likes

:16:35. > :16:46.of which we have never seen before. Well done, Beth Potter. In the third

:16:47. > :16:53.round of the long jump. The South African is the Commonwealth

:16:54. > :17:00.record-holder with 8.60 five. The Olympic silver-medallist last year

:17:01. > :17:11.is in the lead. Round three. Another big effort. And another white flag.

:17:12. > :17:18.He has the run right. Luvo Manyonga living up to expectation. He carried

:17:19. > :17:23.that niggle from the Stockholm league, he hurt his ankle, but

:17:24. > :17:29.Nu'uausala that as he puts in a very impressive series together. Look at

:17:30. > :17:36.this. The wind on the bike straight is picking up, earlier it was minus

:17:37. > :17:42.and we can see 1.2 metres, wishing him onto the board. Look at his

:17:43. > :17:53.arms, getting in there. Dropping his feet early. That right foot. That is

:17:54. > :18:04.8.32 in the third round for Luvo Manyonga. Very supportive crowd,

:18:05. > :18:12.very knowledgeable, as ever. The jumpers enjoying that. And Jarrion

:18:13. > :18:18.Lawson from the United States, 8.43 in the second round. Was that good

:18:19. > :18:29.on the board? It was. Will this challenge the lead? Yes. What a

:18:30. > :18:32.competition! He rushed that flight, whirling his arms around quickly and

:18:33. > :18:40.he came in for a premature landing. RP goes, and he pulls himself down

:18:41. > :18:46.below his hips, if he stretched he would have sailed and travelled in

:18:47. > :18:55.the air longer. Premature landing but that is 8.40, no improvement in

:18:56. > :19:14.second place. You feel there is more to come. The second rank South

:19:15. > :19:20.African, Ruswahl Samaai. 8.25 in the second round. And second in the

:19:21. > :19:27.world. Look at the way he runs, punched and lower, he could stand up

:19:28. > :19:34.tall. And express himself. You can see those hunched shoulders. Getting

:19:35. > :19:41.the white flag. Shopping into the board. The wind is picking up,

:19:42. > :19:47.people will have to make adjustments, the stronger the wind,

:19:48. > :19:53.the more that will push you in. It circles down and into the ground,

:19:54. > :19:59.like a forward roll into the air, he needs to hold up his chest. May be

:20:00. > :20:05.more to come from Ruswahl Samaai. Fighting that forward rotation

:20:06. > :20:13.created by that slight outer body position. A shorter step is like

:20:14. > :20:21.getting tripped over and that causes the rotation. It was not in front of

:20:22. > :20:27.him, where it needed to be. We can reflect on that 10,000 metres

:20:28. > :20:32.performance by Almaz Ayana. Replicating her run in Rio in terms

:20:33. > :20:42.of streaking away, in her own way. That was on a different level. That

:20:43. > :20:50.was dominance. To run 3000 metres in 8.33 is quick anyway. In Monaco,

:20:51. > :20:55.eight .30, Ailish McColgan just behind her. But backing that up, I

:20:56. > :21:03.would love to see with the last 5K was because she finished with 30

:21:04. > :21:11.point 16. And setting off at the marathon pace and no wonder she

:21:12. > :21:15.destroyed the rest of the field and she lapped everyone, finishing 47

:21:16. > :21:20.seconds ahead of the silver medal, and that was Tirunesh Dibaba! But

:21:21. > :21:27.somebody just turning up. She lapped pretty much most of the field,

:21:28. > :21:37.including the bronze-medallists from Beijing in 2015. What can she do in

:21:38. > :21:40.this sport? She could go down? She could make a fantastic marathon

:21:41. > :21:50.runner? The world is for oyster in terms of middle distance running?

:21:51. > :21:55.She can destroy the field like that, there were doubts about her fitness,

:21:56. > :22:03.she is in shape or she is not, she is in phenomenal shape. She can be

:22:04. > :22:07.very competitive over 3000 metres, 5,000m she could probably challenge

:22:08. > :22:15.the world record and the marathon remains to be seen but on that

:22:16. > :22:20.basis, it could be extremely fast. Just over one hour away from the

:22:21. > :22:26.final of the Men's 100 metres. Beautiful scenes overhead in the

:22:27. > :22:31.stadium. The rain has stayed away, there is this stunning sunset, going

:22:32. > :22:37.down on the championship career of Usain Bolt, littered with gold

:22:38. > :22:45.medals all the way, including a particularly magnificent seven.

:22:46. > :22:54.Usain Bolt, here he goes, streaking away already. Watch the clock! That

:22:55. > :23:01.is gold and he has done it again! Did you world record for Usain Bolt!

:23:02. > :23:10.Away cleanly, Bolt gets a very clean start. An excellent start from Brian

:23:11. > :23:14.Shawcross but this is all about Usain Bolt, three metres, five

:23:15. > :23:27.metres clear and away he goes. Another gold medal. What is the

:23:28. > :23:34.time? I cannot believe it. Once again, there is no mishap, as was

:23:35. > :23:47.last Sunday night in the 100 metres. Gold is into the home straight.

:23:48. > :23:58.19 .42 seconds, the fastest in the world this year. They get away,

:23:59. > :24:08.DeGrasse gets the best start but Usain Bolt is going to get there, he

:24:09. > :24:12.will take it again! Nine .70 eight. That was a clean start, getting out

:24:13. > :24:25.of the blocks very well. Bolt going around that bend. Here comes Usain

:24:26. > :24:39.Bolt. Changing through the gears. Bolt eases off, 19.66! Bolt gets

:24:40. > :24:49.away pretty well, as does Rogers, bold and Justin Gatlin, Bolt gets

:24:50. > :24:56.it? I think he has! Usain Bolt! Cracking start, Justin Gatlin is out

:24:57. > :25:02.quickly but so is Usain Bolt, going to be very close in the home

:25:03. > :25:09.straight and Justin Gatlin has not caught him. Surely Usain Bolt cannot

:25:10. > :25:14.relinquish this? He is going to win this bank almost a big margin that

:25:15. > :25:21.he probably could not believe. They are his magnificent seven individual

:25:22. > :25:28.world championship golds. Will he be adding to those? But those seats,

:25:29. > :25:33.make sure you have the snacks ready, this is going to be phenomenal, the

:25:34. > :25:55.atmosphere is crackling. And this is a line-up... Two Jamaicans, Bolt and

:25:56. > :26:00.leg. And sixth -- Christian Coleman. And Reece Prescod really has been

:26:01. > :26:04.the most incredible story, his meteoric rise, winning the National

:26:05. > :26:08.Championship title to qualify back in July, in early July, he threw

:26:09. > :26:13.himself centrestage and said when growing up people said he should be

:26:14. > :26:19.a 200 beaters and 400 is runner because he is very tall but he is

:26:20. > :26:25.making a pretty good go at 100 metres. What are confident entry

:26:26. > :26:40.into this level! Bill Jones caught up with him. Reece Prescod, the

:26:41. > :26:44.21-year-old British runner. I don't tend to over complicate things, I

:26:45. > :26:53.look at the good things aren't so bad things and I work on the bad

:26:54. > :27:02.things. That is a pretty good start. It is going to be close, DeGrasse

:27:03. > :27:07.winning it. I came seventh, that was not great because I wanted to win

:27:08. > :27:12.but these guys have been on the circuit for years and I am three

:27:13. > :27:16.years younger than all of them. I took that attitude and went back to

:27:17. > :27:22.training and worked harder and it came right at the trials. Once Reece

:27:23. > :27:32.Prescod gets moving, he is incredibly quick. Quick start. Look

:27:33. > :27:39.at Reece Prescod, finishing very quickly! He gets it! He will go!

:27:40. > :27:43.Coming away from the middle was a great experience and I did my race

:27:44. > :27:50.well, I felt I could continue that permit them going into the World

:27:51. > :27:52.Championships. If you analyse something, it becomes a problem in

:27:53. > :27:59.your head and you just analyse that one thing. Keep things simple. For

:28:00. > :28:03.it all to come together for you in the year of the World Championships

:28:04. > :28:13.in London, is that an added bonus? It was a blessing, under 23, London,

:28:14. > :28:19.OK! London is out there, that will be the dream but I will stay at the

:28:20. > :28:27.under 23s to stay happy. And I got the qualifier! I prepared for that,

:28:28. > :28:33.I got to the trials and I put my race head on and London was there,

:28:34. > :28:38.British champion! A lot of boys said that I have skipped the queue!

:28:39. > :28:44.Normally you go for the junior and I have taken the fast track. It is

:28:45. > :28:50.good. Do you go in there with nothing to lose attitude for the

:28:51. > :28:57.World Championships? I definitely think so, I am 21, quite young, if I

:28:58. > :29:00.can keep racing well, that is what it is all about and if not, I will

:29:01. > :29:08.go back to work again and come back stronger. When I hear them drawing

:29:09. > :29:16.my name, I just embrace it, I just run. That was just before these

:29:17. > :29:20.championships, such prophetic words because that is exactly what he has

:29:21. > :29:26.done, he has embraced this experience. And he is at the start

:29:27. > :29:31.of his career, just 21, all of that excitement and relaxed. On this

:29:32. > :29:35.amazing stage and he did not expect to be here at this time and seeing

:29:36. > :29:40.him run like that, it gives you goose bumps!

:29:41. > :29:45.When somebody comes through as a trial, as a surprise, and then

:29:46. > :29:53.produces again and again, it bodes well? He is thirsty to run, he is

:29:54. > :30:00.happy in this environment, he will have to enjoy this and he will raise

:30:01. > :30:01.his game. It is the 200 metres time for the Heptathlon woman. Steve Cram

:30:02. > :30:21.can update you. Surprise surprise, the Olympic

:30:22. > :30:26.champion Nafi Thiam leading things, city Cheptai going well and

:30:27. > :30:29.Rodriguez had that brilliant High Jump. Katarina Johnson-Thompson down

:30:30. > :30:35.in 13th place after three events. She really needs a good 200m to

:30:36. > :30:40.finish the day and a high. Just to give her a glimpse that tomorrow

:30:41. > :30:46.could be better. And we have got four races and these are the

:30:47. > :30:55.athletes in the first of the four. Based on their ability. Very good in

:30:56. > :31:01.the shot-put, Sharon Day-Monroe. But the highest of the current standings

:31:02. > :31:10.is Nadine Broersen, she is in sixth place, in main eight. And anything

:31:11. > :31:16.under 25, they will be delighted, only a couple of personal bests

:31:17. > :31:26.under 25. Lecabela Quaresma in lane six.

:31:27. > :31:38.So the first of four races in this women's heptathlon. There is

:31:39. > :31:51.Quaresma. Broersen will want to finish with a good 200 here.

:31:52. > :32:00.Greenaway. Broersen did get a good start and started quickly. Sharon

:32:01. > :32:03.Day-Monroe trying to get on terms with the American. Sharon Day-Monroe

:32:04. > :32:08.in second place and coming through quicker. Broersen fading a bit here.

:32:09. > :32:12.The American is putting her under real pressure, it is going to be

:32:13. > :32:17.tight on the line. Sharon Day-Monroe might get this by a fraction. And

:32:18. > :32:22.that is a good run from Broersen as well. Quicker than her season's best

:32:23. > :32:27.for Sharon Day-Monroe. A pretty solid enter her day. Good Shot Put

:32:28. > :32:34.from her moving her up the standings and a decent run and Broersen

:32:35. > :32:41.looking up at the clock. Tony, Broersen is in sixth place. A

:32:42. > :32:47.reasonable 202nd day for her? Not as strong as it has been in the past. A

:32:48. > :32:51.higher scoring athlete than we have seen in recent years. And losing

:32:52. > :32:56.quite a substantial amount of points on her personal best. Started well

:32:57. > :33:03.with a great drive out, coming off the turn. And with about 80 metres

:33:04. > :33:09.to go, you can see her blowing hard. Struggling when Sharon Day comes

:33:10. > :33:14.alongside her. Yes, she ran a good bend and ran out of steam the last

:33:15. > :33:21.50 metres, Broersen, having put herself in a good position. A good

:33:22. > :33:29.bend in lane eight. She might look back and think, she might expect a

:33:30. > :33:36.drop down from the current position she is in, in sixth place. Just in

:33:37. > :33:41.terms of totals. It bit of daylight between herself and eighth place. We

:33:42. > :33:47.will have to wait and see. So, Broersen the second by 100th of a

:33:48. > :33:54.second to Sharon Day-Monroe. 890 points for the American. If you are

:33:55. > :34:00.joining us, this is a look back at the leading Long Jump, compelling

:34:01. > :34:06.final, there is your event leader Luvo Manyonga of South Africa, in

:34:07. > :34:10.the second round will stop and will bring you win in a second, Tony,

:34:11. > :34:16.that is 8.48, five centimetres in the lead. We'll Manyonga think he

:34:17. > :34:20.has done enough with three jumps remaining? It is strange, Steve, you

:34:21. > :34:24.may have found in conditions that the first round is very competitive,

:34:25. > :34:29.first people find their way. And people tend to go to sleep a bit

:34:30. > :34:34.through rounds three and four. And even five. Once they get the round

:34:35. > :34:39.six, people know, you are fighting for the medals. Maybe we will see a

:34:40. > :34:44.dip as they get used to it but I think they will be going for it hard

:34:45. > :34:54.in the last round. Well, queueing up behind you

:34:55. > :35:04.including this man, Jianan Wang. 25 centimetres only behind the lead of

:35:05. > :35:11.Manyonga. Wang in round four. Just decelerating may be slightly. No

:35:12. > :35:18.improvement for the Chinese athlete. Wang is just 20 years of age, his

:35:19. > :35:26.season's best is his lifetime's best, 8.29. Almost the same in

:35:27. > :35:31.second round. In fifth place, Wang, good on the board. He shows really

:35:32. > :35:37.good discipline. Stretching and driving at maximum speed and maximum

:35:38. > :35:46.effort to be within a centimetre or two of the past scene. Well drilled

:35:47. > :35:51.and well practised. And Wang... At the moment, Aleksandr Menkov is in

:35:52. > :36:00.the Bronze medal position. Silver medal at the moment is Jarrion

:36:01. > :36:05.Lawson in second place, the American in 8.43, just five centimetres

:36:06. > :36:14.behind the lead of Manyonga. Wang may be wondering what he can do to

:36:15. > :36:20.get in amongst it. Samaai. Tony analysed this athlete a couple of

:36:21. > :36:23.jumps ago and noticed him being slightly hunched over on the

:36:24. > :36:31.approach, let's see if he can stand tall and use his posture to govern

:36:32. > :36:36.-- to good effect. Samaai, round four, looks better. That is better,

:36:37. > :36:41.you knows it. Red flag, he ran off the board so much better. His foot

:36:42. > :36:46.was to underneath before, he stretches put out further and a bit

:36:47. > :36:51.too far and ended up in the plasticine. The starting to get it

:36:52. > :36:57.right. That tease him up for the rest of the competition, he knows he

:36:58. > :37:00.is capable of challenging for the lead, Samaai. His team-mate Manyonga

:37:01. > :37:12.out in front with two jumps remaining.

:37:13. > :37:24.So, Aleksandr Menkov, and authorised neutral athlete, in brackets,

:37:25. > :37:30.Russian. So Menkov in the opening round had 8.27, followed by two

:37:31. > :37:35.bowels. Fourth round John as he rolls in casually into his run. More

:37:36. > :37:43.discipline in the final steps, but he made a mess of that and he knew

:37:44. > :37:47.it was a foul, no improvement. Menkov in third place, this is your

:37:48. > :37:52.event leader, Manyonga, is still out in front and getting ready for his

:37:53. > :37:58.fourth attempt. And here is your leader in the heptathlon as well,

:37:59. > :38:03.Nafi Thiam readying herself for the final event, the second of the four

:38:04. > :38:11.heats. Not a great 200m runner but she is the leader and she wears the

:38:12. > :38:16.green name. A new personal best this season, and warmly received by the

:38:17. > :38:20.London crowd. Not too many in this round-up will the cheer in the medal

:38:21. > :38:26.shake-up. Katerina Cachova of the Czech Republic. Thiam of course

:38:27. > :38:33.leading. Guest only in Grit Sadeiko in 18th place. The best of 24.

:38:34. > :38:41.Alysbeth Felix up Puerto Rico in lane five. These women running in

:38:42. > :38:46.the 20 fours. Katarina Johnson-Thompson will go in the

:38:47. > :38:50.fourth heat, there is Eliska Klucinova who is that that the

:38:51. > :38:56.moment, consistent in the remaining events without being spectacular.

:38:57. > :38:59.The 19-year-old European Junior Championships silver-medallist

:39:00. > :39:14.Geraldine Ruckstuhl. But down in 14th at the moment and in 12th place

:39:15. > :39:18.is Antoinette Nana Djimou Ida. So this is all about the Belgian Nafi

:39:19. > :39:25.Thiam, who is still in line for 7,000 points. If things go according

:39:26. > :39:29.to plan. I think Carolin Schafer lease after the first day but

:39:30. > :39:36.Thiam's javelin is outstanding and that will be the difference between

:39:37. > :39:45.those two. So Antoinette Nana Djimou Ida on the inside. Geraldine

:39:46. > :39:46.Ruckstuhl of Switzerland... And Tamara de Sousa of Brazil on the

:39:47. > :40:01.outside. All about the time for Nafi Thiam,

:40:02. > :40:13.200 is not her best event. Round the bend she comes. Grit Sadeiko running

:40:14. > :40:21.strong. Chasing down the time. Evenly matched, and a good round on

:40:22. > :40:27.the outside from Tamara de Sousa. 41 -- Thiam flinging herself at the

:40:28. > :40:33.line. Fractionally behind Thiam's personal best. Pretty much as we

:40:34. > :40:38.expected, she has been close to, without threatening her personal

:40:39. > :40:42.best in all the events so far, but that is good enough to keep ahead of

:40:43. > :40:46.the rest. But Carolin Schafer is in the fourth heat and she might lead

:40:47. > :40:50.after day one. But Thiam will not be too displeased with what she has

:40:51. > :40:55.run. Obviously, she would have wanted a personal best, but she is

:40:56. > :40:58.doing just about enough, Tony. I think so, the time she has produced,

:40:59. > :41:03.a couple of tenths outside her personal best. It is still

:41:04. > :41:07.conditions so difficult for her. The conditions earlier this year were

:41:08. > :41:22.perfect with the breeze behind. The time she has run, from my

:41:23. > :41:25.perspective, you have only lost 20 points, 24.57, only 17 points, so a

:41:26. > :41:30.really solid performance. We talked about her not being a great 200 run

:41:31. > :41:34.or 800 runner in the final event, she does not look very fluid out

:41:35. > :41:39.there but she is a power athlete. Yes, if you look at the way she

:41:40. > :41:44.runs, not a lot in front, she weaves her foot on the floor a little too

:41:45. > :41:49.long so it picks up behind her. Not the best angle. Rocking and rolling.

:41:50. > :41:51.Needs to be a bit stronger and improve the techniques of the power

:41:52. > :41:56.she does have will be much more efficient. But again, consistent

:41:57. > :42:01.throughout and we will see the difference in terms of 200m from

:42:02. > :42:05.Katarina Johnson-Thompson who is a world-class 200m runner. But Nafi

:42:06. > :42:09.Thiam just outside her personal best and will not lose much ground. We

:42:10. > :42:14.will watch what Carolin Schafer can do and Katarina Johnson-Thompson in

:42:15. > :42:20.the fourth round. Cachova, of the Czech Republic.

:42:21. > :42:22.Thiam just a fraction behind and outside her personal best and she's

:42:23. > :42:30.talking to fill. A successful day for you, how would

:42:31. > :42:37.you assess the day from your perspective? It was a good day? I

:42:38. > :42:42.did some medal performances. Like the hurdles. The shot-put. I think I

:42:43. > :42:49.didn't do any mistakes. It was pretty solid and I am happy with the

:42:50. > :42:54.200m. Really it is the event I mess up a little bit, so that is good. Is

:42:55. > :42:57.that the most important thing in the heptathlon when you are competing in

:42:58. > :43:04.this? We saw our own Katarina Johnson-Thompson only clearing in

:43:05. > :43:08.the High Jump 1.80, it is not to make a mistake like that? Yes, I

:43:09. > :43:16.think so. It is the challenge to do OK and then some big performance in

:43:17. > :43:20.some events. But it is really easy to do a mistake, so that is what is

:43:21. > :43:23.horrible in the heptathlon. You always look so composed, keep it

:43:24. > :43:53.going tomorrow, well done today. Thank you, I will try.

:43:54. > :44:08.Usain Bolt squeaking away from the fields, it is gold for Usain Bolt, a

:44:09. > :44:13.new rails -- record for Usain Bolt, Bolt is going to do it again, Usain

:44:14. > :44:19.Bolt! We are getting closer, just under 32

:44:20. > :44:24.minutes to the 100m men's final here at the London Stadium, in The Queen

:44:25. > :44:27.Elizabeth Park will stop and the athletes warming got and is doing

:44:28. > :44:33.their last-minute preparations out on the warm up track. Reece Prescod

:44:34. > :44:37.of Great Britain who got himself into that final with a magnificent

:44:38. > :44:41.run, he has performed brilliantly in these championships since winning

:44:42. > :44:45.his national title in early July and is taking it in his stride, the

:44:46. > :44:49.21-year-old. Christian Coleman has run the fastest time in the world

:44:50. > :44:53.this year, the American, not a lot of experience in this event but he

:44:54. > :44:58.has looked like he was born to this, is he going to push Usain Bolt all

:44:59. > :45:02.the way? Justin Gatlin knows exactly what it is like to be on the biggest

:45:03. > :45:08.stage, he has been the protagonist of Usain Bolt many a time, can he

:45:09. > :45:12.push him one more time? It is the last time they have a chance to take

:45:13. > :45:14.the biggest scalp and the man perhaps who knows him best of all is

:45:15. > :45:33.Jamaican team-mate Yohan Blake. grass taking their time, and wearing

:45:34. > :45:37.sun hats, feeling the cool London area as the temperature drops that

:45:38. > :45:48.the London Stadium. Back to the track and the 202 is. Steve Cram?

:45:49. > :45:57.Just one more until we see Katarina Johnson-Thompson, we have the

:45:58. > :45:59.athletes in third and fourth, we have Anouk Vetter from the

:46:00. > :46:12.Netherlands. Certainly, Anouk Vetter and Yorgelis

:46:13. > :46:19.Rodriguez are in a scrap going into tomorrow. They are well matched in

:46:20. > :46:25.the 200 metres, although Anouk Vetter has a better personal best

:46:26. > :46:32.although this year and there was only five hundredths separating

:46:33. > :46:43.them. You know when Rodriguez has had a day like today, she might find

:46:44. > :46:52.something extra. Her season best, 24.16. Anouk Vetter will have

:46:53. > :46:56.something to run out. There will not be that much between them unless

:46:57. > :47:04.something goes dramatically wrong for Rodriguez. Caroline Agnou from

:47:05. > :47:14.Switzerland in lane three. And Hanne Maudens from Belgium. If there is a

:47:15. > :47:20.chance for Katarina Johnson-Thompson, we need her to run

:47:21. > :47:25.a superb 200 metres, they were asked only what that means but if these

:47:26. > :47:32.two run fairly well indeed, particularly Rodriguez, if she works

:47:33. > :47:36.on the great day she has had today, that would just take that bronze

:47:37. > :47:48.medal position away a bit further as well.

:47:49. > :48:00.Rodriguez climbing out of the blocks, but the best, Anouk Vetter

:48:01. > :48:09.starting more quickly. Also going well is Odile Ahouanwanou. Rodriguez

:48:10. > :48:18.is starting to fade, as is Anouk Vetter. Well, Rodriguez and Anouk

:48:19. > :48:25.Vetter not as quick as they might have liked. Odile Ahouanwanou liking

:48:26. > :48:33.her performance and why not? That is a personal best. Excellent running

:48:34. > :48:36.from her. Only, I wonder if Rodriguez, when you have the

:48:37. > :48:43.adrenaline coming, she did not come out of the blocks? She stood up, did

:48:44. > :48:49.not really react to the gun. And for some reason, it is something that a

:48:50. > :48:54.lot of heptathlete stood, driving your shoulders into the lane and you

:48:55. > :49:00.must set this up for 200 beaters, you cannot just expect to run 200

:49:01. > :49:08.beaters, you have to drive from the beginning. We still have a great

:49:09. > :49:28.long jump final. Steve Cram? We have indeed. Jarrion Lawson. The massive

:49:29. > :49:33.crowd loving this long jump final. The American, 8.43, trailing the

:49:34. > :49:42.South African. What has he got in round five? That is a massive

:49:43. > :49:50.series, he opened with 8.30 seven. Backing that up with a .40 in the

:49:51. > :49:54.third round. It is not look as though it is going to impress on

:49:55. > :50:00.that lead, the gold and silver lines almost on top of each other, five

:50:01. > :50:10.centimetres apart, there is no improvement, it looks, for Lawson.

:50:11. > :50:18.Teasing things for the third round. That is OK, he has one more chance,

:50:19. > :50:28.but Luvo Manyonga might have more to give, this man is unbeaten in 2017.

:50:29. > :50:37.Serious jumping, he has been prolific, jumping in XS of 8.60 on

:50:38. > :50:44.occasions, and who knows, he might be capable of more. There is a

:50:45. > :50:54.slight following wind, no one improved in round four. Luvo

:50:55. > :50:59.Manyonga, round five. That was a big effort, and again... May be no

:51:00. > :51:06.improvement as the 200-metre heptathlete is wait to go. Katarina

:51:07. > :51:18.Johnson-Thompson in the next heat, Luvo Manyonga, no improvement with

:51:19. > :51:25.8.48. He has equalled the distance of Aleksandr Menkov with 8.47 and

:51:26. > :51:34.with only one job remaining, you just feel there might be some more

:51:35. > :51:44.drama to come. It always produces. He is in the lead here, Luvo

:51:45. > :51:52.Manyonga. No improvement at 8.17. And there is one job remaining. Onto

:51:53. > :51:55.the final heat of the 200 metres for the Heptathlon women and 11 probe is

:51:56. > :52:01.one of the fastest in the field and she will have to produce close to

:52:02. > :52:10.her personal best to get a serious form before going to bed. She is the

:52:11. > :52:13.fastest by a long way and this is against the clock, about motivation

:52:14. > :52:21.and how much she will want to fight to move up the leaderboard. And not

:52:22. > :52:25.force it? Don't get too dense, understand she can come away with a

:52:26. > :52:29.positive note from 200 and put the other events to bed and start fresh

:52:30. > :52:36.tomorrow. She has it in her to run a very good time tomorrow. We can go

:52:37. > :52:41.to the commentary team, the final heat of the 200 metres in the

:52:42. > :52:52.Heptathlon. She is the fastest by some distance in this event over the

:52:53. > :52:57.rest, in fact, her 22.81 gives her -- was into the headwind and that is

:52:58. > :53:03.the second quickest in any British athlete this year, only Desiree

:53:04. > :53:08.Henry was faster. She is ordinarily world-class in the long jump and the

:53:09. > :53:16.high jump, they carry her, but if you slip up in any of them, you will

:53:17. > :53:20.suffer. The high jump Sir Achilles fielded a hand there is no other way

:53:21. > :53:21.to put it, it has been painfully disappointing today for Katarina

:53:22. > :53:38.Johnson-Thompson. Carolin Schafer is quick as well,

:53:39. > :53:44.this season. Katarina Johnson-Thompson, that high jump

:53:45. > :53:52.just took the life out of her. Whether we can see a real drive in

:53:53. > :53:57.this 200 metres... Don't put too much thought into that minus wind,

:53:58. > :54:04.the crosswind helped them around the turn. It still registered as miners

:54:05. > :54:08.with the wind gauge, 50 metres up the home straight but here is the

:54:09. > :54:13.opportunity to put all Banks and distress into this race. And move

:54:14. > :54:20.forward through and get the additional points you need. The

:54:21. > :54:34.crowd will try to lift Katarina Johnson-Thompson. Promote outside

:54:35. > :54:39.chance of a medal for her. But there has to be something very special.

:54:40. > :54:55.Erica Bougard, 22nd at the moment, but the women from Germany could

:54:56. > :55:03.push... The long jump, the javelin and the 800 metres tomorrow. Kendell

:55:04. > :55:07.Williams, she is a good 200 metres runner, Ivona Dadic could get close

:55:08. > :55:20.to the medal positions at the end of the first day. The Austrian is in

:55:21. > :55:25.eighth place. Second in 200 metres in the Heptathlon equates to about

:55:26. > :55:34.100 points and Vanessa Chefer at the moment is 72 points behind

:55:35. > :55:40.Nafissatou Thiam and Katarina Johnson-Thompson, can she get close

:55:41. > :55:41.to her best and take a leap up the rankings? The final heat of the 200

:55:42. > :56:01.metres in the Heptathlon. There is an aurora from the crowd to

:56:02. > :56:05.lift Katarina Johnson-Thompson as he attacks the first 100 and takes

:56:06. > :56:10.chunks out of the opposition, driving on, chasing down the time,

:56:11. > :56:14.Carolin Schafer running strongly but Katarina Johnson-Thompson lifting

:56:15. > :56:26.and pushing and drives towards online, the wristy huge gap to the

:56:27. > :56:33.line is quick, 22.81, -- 22.88, not far from her personal best. She will

:56:34. > :56:38.move up the rankings and put yourself in some position where she

:56:39. > :56:43.can make some challenge on the second day. You can see the drive

:56:44. > :56:47.and are working and you can see her smiling, she has confidence in the

:56:48. > :56:53.200 metres, she drives as a very strong athlete, lifting her knees on

:56:54. > :56:56.the home straight, that is the drive, the body position, standing

:56:57. > :57:03.up early for me, working the bend really hard. Then just as she comes

:57:04. > :57:08.off, picking that point and running at it, her arms working, the other

:57:09. > :57:15.girls are suffering, they don't have her strength, when she is open and

:57:16. > :57:22.free. She is striving, she starts to reach and rock a little bit,

:57:23. > :57:30.driving, there, across the line, 22.86. Great performance. Get those

:57:31. > :57:34.head underneath and get taller, she needs to work her feet better, they

:57:35. > :57:39.need to bounce off the floor as she moves around the turn. Not quite the

:57:40. > :57:48.horizontal flight position you would want. She is a high quality 200

:57:49. > :57:53.metres runner, in a different league to the rest of the heptathlete 's

:57:54. > :57:58.and she will move into fourth place at the end of the first day, she is

:57:59. > :58:02.not great with the javelin but a good long jumper and a very good 800

:58:03. > :58:13.metres runner so in a good position to challenge at the end of the first

:58:14. > :58:16.day. The Men's long jump coming to a climax with round six. This man

:58:17. > :58:29.could change the order of the medals. Ruswahl Samaai, had to play

:58:30. > :58:37.second fiddle to his team-mate, Luvo Manyonga. Chopped badly but that is

:58:38. > :58:40.a very big effort. That might improve his performance, it looks as

:58:41. > :58:50.though he stuttered slightly in the end. He did not look optimal for

:58:51. > :58:55.Ruswahl Samaai, he will be pleased with bronze, he just chopped,

:58:56. > :59:10.sticking that short stride in. If he got that right, well, Ruswahl Samaai

:59:11. > :59:14.has jumped very well indeed. 8.32, that is an improvement and that

:59:15. > :59:22.keeps him in third place, guaranteed. I have checked, he is

:59:23. > :59:27.not guaranteed because the man to follow, Aleksandr Menkov, has been

:59:28. > :59:34.pushed to fourth place. He can wrestle that back. Great support

:59:35. > :59:39.from a huge and knowledgeable crowd and that is why athletes love to

:59:40. > :59:52.come to Britain to compete. Menkov, previous champion. 2013, his

:59:53. > :00:01.lifetime best of 8.56, when he took the world title. 8.32 is his best

:00:02. > :00:07.this year over the same distance. And that is Luvo Manyonga. Looking

:00:08. > :00:12.composed, he knows they are coming after him.

:00:13. > :00:23.Nervous time in the Long Jump competition. Menkov, four fouls.

:00:24. > :00:28.This is the opportunity. Runs fast on the runway, accelerates into the

:00:29. > :00:34.Long Jump. Mary is -- never simple technique, he just brings his leg

:00:35. > :00:40.through. Menkov, last round, so approach, but he accelerates hard.

:00:41. > :00:45.It is shy and it is a foul. He encroached on the board. That is his

:00:46. > :00:50.team-mate, Luvo Manyonga, congratulating his team-mate Samaai

:00:51. > :01:00.and a Bronze medal. Menkov has to settle for fourth. Well, Menkov is a

:01:01. > :01:04.neutral athlete. Now he is competing in a neutral vest. No time to

:01:05. > :01:09.elaborate on that now but athletes take so much pride putting on their

:01:10. > :01:14.national best, a neutral athlete maybe feels different at a World

:01:15. > :01:18.Championship is. Samaai celebrating a guaranteed Bronze. Now we can give

:01:19. > :01:24.him that and no that nobody can take that from him. Two athletes yet to

:01:25. > :01:30.jump so the silver and gold may still change place. But South Africa

:01:31. > :01:37.definitely have two medals. There is your event leader, Manyonga, out in

:01:38. > :01:40.front. He is enjoying himself! I think he is as pleased for Samaai as

:01:41. > :01:50.he is for his own situation. Writes... Once again, Jarrion Lawson

:01:51. > :01:56.turns to the crowd and so does the event leader. Great stuff, great

:01:57. > :02:02.camaraderie between the jumpers. And Lawson can do this. Lawson of the

:02:03. > :02:10.United States needs to find five centimetres only, faster going on

:02:11. > :02:16.the approach. It is big. Well, it is a white flag. As he did in Rio last

:02:17. > :02:22.year. He dragged his hand back into the sand. This time, it looks like a

:02:23. > :02:33.Queen entry into the sandpit. -- clean entry. 8.44, Lawson has to

:02:34. > :02:39.settle for silver. Four centimetres shy of gold, but it guarantees a

:02:40. > :02:45.gold for this man. And Samaai is away with his nation's flag. And

:02:46. > :02:49.Luvo Manyonga is reduced to his knees, what a journey! Talk about a

:02:50. > :02:56.troubled past, the American celebrating the silver. Manyonga

:02:57. > :03:07.came from the townships, a poverty stricken background. A social drug

:03:08. > :03:10.addict, reformed. Sports saved him. Lawson, the American, silver medal.

:03:11. > :03:17.Manyonga guaranteed gold, what a wonderful story! Champion of the

:03:18. > :03:22.world. Silver last year, Manyonga in the last round, does not need it. He

:03:23. > :03:29.has already won. It is a huge effort! But it is a foul. That is a

:03:30. > :03:40.shame. It just shows you just the talent. Standing before us. Well, a

:03:41. > :03:49.unique celebration. Fantastic stuff from Luvo Manyonga! A sound angel.

:03:50. > :03:56.Gold and Bronze for South Africa. Some edging the American Lawson will

:03:57. > :04:08.stop -- sandwiching. Brilliant stuff. It went exactly as the form

:04:09. > :04:18.would have suggested. Gold for Agnes Tirop -- Luvo Manyonga. Cheering for

:04:19. > :04:25.the champion. He is the man, gold and Bronze. Brilliant, brilliant

:04:26. > :04:32.stuff. Not the dramatic end we maybe would have hoped for, but Manyonga,

:04:33. > :04:38.well, we need to know more about that back story and Manyonga takes

:04:39. > :04:49.gold. That is the confirmation. A world gold medal and 8.48.

:04:50. > :04:53.These are the standings after the first day of the heptathlon. Leading

:04:54. > :04:57.by 22 points, Carolin Schafer, behind Nafi Thiam. Rodriguez in

:04:58. > :05:02.third. Katarina Johnson-Thompson just behind Rodriguez. Katarina

:05:03. > :05:06.Johnson-Thompson better in the Long Jump and 800m and a weaker javelin

:05:07. > :05:13.compared to the Cuban so we will see what develops on the second day.

:05:14. > :05:17.The London Stadium here in the heart of the Olympic Park in East London

:05:18. > :05:22.looking magnificent. Evoking all kinds of emotions reminiscent of

:05:23. > :05:28.2012. And if you have just joined us on BBC One, a very warm welcome to

:05:29. > :05:30.the second night of these World Championships. 24 hours ago, we

:05:31. > :05:38.witnessed the greatest British athlete ever Mo Farah and 24 hours

:05:39. > :05:43.on, we are about to witness depleted greatest athlete of all time, who

:05:44. > :05:44.transcends his sport, who is about to run his last individual

:05:45. > :06:00.championship race. Usain Bolt, of Jamaica.

:06:01. > :06:05.Usain Bolt is the world Junior champion.

:06:06. > :06:10.It is going to be gold Ford Jamaica! Usain Bolt is the Olympic champion!

:06:11. > :06:16.He has done it again! A new world record.

:06:17. > :06:22.He is running away, he is going for gold. The champion becomes a legend.

:06:23. > :06:25.And he is going to take the gold again.

:06:26. > :06:31.Unbeatable, and the passable! Usain Bolt, three times World Champion.

:06:32. > :06:37.Magnificent seven, the Odyssey continues.

:06:38. > :06:49.He has saved this title, he has saved his reputation. He may have

:06:50. > :07:00.even saved his sport. One last time.

:07:01. > :07:08.Can he is silence them one more time? The indoor track just

:07:09. > :07:14.underneath the stadium. It is the penultimate place the athletes go.

:07:15. > :07:19.And Usain Bolt looking as calm and charming as he always does in those

:07:20. > :07:23.moments. The cheering behind us, he has not come out, don't worry. A

:07:24. > :07:27.very British thing just happened, I have never seen it in athletics

:07:28. > :07:31.before, a Great British streak at! We are not going to show you.

:07:32. > :07:35.Michael is bemused, it doesn't happen in American sport. More

:07:36. > :07:39.importantly, is Usain Bolt going to be the man streaking ahead this

:07:40. > :07:42.evening? Are you confident from what you saw today and yesterday he has

:07:43. > :07:47.everything to pull together and the challenges in the semifinals? What

:07:48. > :07:52.we are about to see is a fantastic competition and that is what some --

:07:53. > :07:56.is so great about athletics, accommodation. People came to see

:07:57. > :07:59.Usain Bolt because he is a legend like people came to see Mo Farah

:08:00. > :08:03.last night because he is a legend, but they also got a fantastic

:08:04. > :08:06.addition must night and we will see that the late because Christian

:08:07. > :08:11.Coleman can challenge Usain Bolt. At the end of the day, Bolt is ready,

:08:12. > :08:14.he looked great in the semifinals and confident and much more pleased

:08:15. > :08:25.with himself today than he was yesterday. But he is not going to be

:08:26. > :08:28.in the same rage at 9.6, it is more like 9.8. Excited to have Reece

:08:29. > :08:32.Prescod involved, he has come through so well from the beginning

:08:33. > :08:37.of the season and the challenges, but for you, Coleman is the man who

:08:38. > :08:42.can push Bolt all the way. This is what he has got. Coleman is

:08:43. > :08:44.fantastic and he ran a very good semifinal with Bolt. Both in the

:08:45. > :08:52.middle of the track. He pulls away from the field quickly

:08:53. > :08:58.and he would have to hold that to avoid this. Bolt coming back, which

:08:59. > :09:03.he did. You can see Coleman jumps out and he gets a great lead, but

:09:04. > :09:08.Bolt is not fazed by it. It bit of a gap, but he has seen that before and

:09:09. > :09:12.he feels confident he closes it and he does, and he uses up at the end.

:09:13. > :09:17.Not necessary for him to win this. I'm sure Coleman probably let up a

:09:18. > :09:19.bit as well because he knew he had the victory at hand and he has

:09:20. > :09:27.qualified for the final. That is where the runners will

:09:28. > :09:31.emerge for the 100-metre final, the men, and that man has the job of

:09:32. > :09:36.leading them out. Each final has their own spectacular entrance and

:09:37. > :09:42.some of the athletes, as you can imagine, milk the moment more than

:09:43. > :09:46.others. Others look more nervous. Former European champion Vicaut of

:09:47. > :09:53.France. The mascot trying to distract them. Bolt of course paying

:09:54. > :09:58.attention, as he always does to any frivolity. He does not look to

:09:59. > :10:02.stress, Usain Bolt will stop no, he never does, he never looks stressed.

:10:03. > :10:09.And I think most of these guys, the veterans have learned that is the

:10:10. > :10:12.thing unique to Usain. Do not try to duplicate it. You saw Coleman doing

:10:13. > :10:16.the right thing and being in front of the pack so he does not have to

:10:17. > :10:20.look at Usain Bolt or see him so relaxed and be intimidated by that.

:10:21. > :10:26.This area right here, that is what I miss. That area right there, that is

:10:27. > :10:31.where some of these races can be won and lost. Christine Coleman is right

:10:32. > :10:38.there beside Usain Bolt, but he looks poised. The good thing about

:10:39. > :10:43.the US system is that you do get a lot of championship experience. A

:10:44. > :10:46.lot of college and university championship experience. So he could

:10:47. > :10:52.just duplicate that here, he has entered those rooms before, just not

:10:53. > :10:57.at this level. He has not looked to like this experience, Coleman. He is

:10:58. > :10:59.a great college athlete in the winning everything this season he

:11:00. > :11:05.can at that level, but a break from his intends raising in the season

:11:06. > :11:09.and looking fresh and experienced. Denise. Yes, but as Mike says, that

:11:10. > :11:15.is the moment when he believes in himself. The collegiate system is

:11:16. > :11:18.one thing, but entering the track at the World Championships when you are

:11:19. > :11:23.one of the favourites against the man of the moment, the man of the

:11:24. > :11:27.era, that is a different story. Let's listen to the roaring, Reece

:11:28. > :11:35.Prescod is coming out first. The crowd are going to absolutely love

:11:36. > :11:40.his presence here. CHEERING.

:11:41. > :11:46.A very languid entry into this stadium. Would you prefer him to do

:11:47. > :11:51.some high knees, Michael? I would like to see more from him, but they

:11:52. > :11:56.call it the walk-out, I guess. That is impressive! He has given us

:11:57. > :12:05.something different in every round and he has delivered again. I don't

:12:06. > :12:11.think Vicaut will give us much. Strange way the walk-out, how it has

:12:12. > :12:17.changed! It is much more showbiz! He was not going to do the walk and

:12:18. > :12:20.absorb more of that. It is important not to lose your focus. This is fun

:12:21. > :12:26.and entertaining for the crowd, but it really about staying locust. This

:12:27. > :12:32.is a big deal. It is and I like the way that they introduced the guys --

:12:33. > :12:45.staying focused. Running out and getting the crowd into it. And there

:12:46. > :12:57.is one more. CHEERING..

:12:58. > :13:03.He might not miss the training and the hard work, the winters, but he

:13:04. > :13:08.is going to miss that. The adulation. You always miss that

:13:09. > :13:11.feeling. But you know what it takes to get to that point and I don't

:13:12. > :13:19.think he would be missing the next year. Well, it really does feel in

:13:20. > :13:23.here like the excitement levels have gone up a notch. Denise looks like

:13:24. > :13:26.she is feeling incredibly nervous because everybody wants to see a

:13:27. > :13:33.results to lift the roof here and be a fitting to be to a man on the edge

:13:34. > :13:35.of winning his 20th global gold in Olympic and World Championship

:13:36. > :13:39.history, a nice round number, Steve Cram!

:13:40. > :13:46.Yes, he is pretty good at being perfect. If you are going to design

:13:47. > :13:51.a superhero, he might be six foot five, he might be physically

:13:52. > :13:56.impressive, he might have a bit of charisma, he might be brilliantly

:13:57. > :14:02.reliable. You might give him a name as well, something like, I don't

:14:03. > :14:09.know, Bolt. He fits the bill. When you think about it, the weight of

:14:10. > :14:17.expectation, any athlete carries it for themselves and it is huge. For

:14:18. > :14:20.their coach and their family. This guy is carrying the weight of

:14:21. > :14:31.expectation of the world for years now every time he walks out onto the

:14:32. > :14:40.track and he delivers. What a sight that is! The stage, the final stage

:14:41. > :14:48.for Usain Bolt. The last time we will see him as an individual

:14:49. > :14:52.athlete. Well, for most of his career, his main rival has been the

:14:53. > :14:58.clock and he has punched it in the face many times. But I guess time

:14:59. > :15:04.has now just about caught up with him and he has to remember what it

:15:05. > :15:16.is like before he was brilliant, before he was unbeatable.

:15:17. > :15:26.And try to remember what it is like to try to win just one more time.

:15:27. > :15:33.Akani Simbine, Justin Gatlin, Yohan Blake, Reece Prescod, Christian

:15:34. > :15:38.Coleman, Jimmy Vicaut and Bingtian Su. What a wonderful moment for

:15:39. > :15:49.Reece Prescod, representing his country. Bingtian Su from China. The

:15:50. > :15:56.Chinese record-holder. Joint European record-holder over 100

:15:57. > :15:58.metres, Jimmy Vicaut from France. He needs no introduction... Listen to

:15:59. > :16:10.the crowd. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

:16:11. > :16:22.Nail in the all-time top ten, Christian Coleman, 21, from the USA.

:16:23. > :16:33.Akani Simbine, fifth place at the Olympics last year. He ran 9.89 last

:16:34. > :16:40.year and the only time bold faulted with the fault -- false start, it

:16:41. > :16:48.was this man, Yohan Blake, who took gold. So many times the silver

:16:49. > :16:58.medal, so many times he has followed Bolt home, Justin Gatlin. Loving

:16:59. > :17:02.every single moment of this, Reece Prescod from Great Britain, the last

:17:03. > :17:07.time Great Britain won a medal in this race, it was Darren Campbell,

:17:08. > :17:11.working behind me for our colleagues, who won the bronze medal

:17:12. > :17:26.in Paris. We hardly knew about Usain Bolt back then. Just one more time.

:17:27. > :17:55.The Men's 100 metres final. Bolt gets a good start, Christian

:17:56. > :18:00.Coleman is leading him, he is not going to catch at the moment and

:18:01. > :18:06.Christian Coleman has still got the lead and Justin Gatlin has got it!

:18:07. > :18:14.At the death, Justin Gatlin steals it. Bolt never got there. It is

:18:15. > :18:30.Justin Gatlin! Definitely. They are all looking! BOOING. That is a very

:18:31. > :18:36.nice gesture from Gatlin considering the reaction of the crowd, they so

:18:37. > :18:45.wanted their man to win, it was not to be. I thought he got out

:18:46. > :18:53.reasonably well, Christian Coleman got out there brilliantly. And all

:18:54. > :19:01.the while, Gatlin came through with 9.92, that will mean a lot for him.

:19:02. > :19:04.And for this man, so it ends. His lane is empty and an empty feeling

:19:05. > :19:12.for many people in the stadium, I am sure. This is sport, there are no

:19:13. > :19:21.guarantees, there isn't always a happy ending. Tears for Justin

:19:22. > :19:28.Gatlin. His day finally arrives. Perhaps at the most inopportune of

:19:29. > :19:33.times. In the day that he wins the gold medal, all eyes are elsewhere,

:19:34. > :19:43.the headlines will be interesting, I am sure. And now, the chanting

:19:44. > :19:50.starts. And the celebration is not of tonight, not of the gold medal

:19:51. > :19:56.missed tonight but of a career that will be unsurpassable, of his

:19:57. > :20:03.performances down the years, of the joy he has brought to so many. That

:20:04. > :20:11.is what they wanted to see continuing tonight but it was not to

:20:12. > :20:13.be. But goodness me, what moments he has given us and what history he has

:20:14. > :20:37.made. There will never be another. I am trying to approach that race...

:20:38. > :20:41.Bolt, Christian Coleman, we thought that Christian Coleman was going to

:20:42. > :20:47.win this... The man in the shadows, he came out of the shadows, almost

:20:48. > :20:55.the pantomime villain of this, he came through to win. Justin Gatlin

:20:56. > :20:59.did exactly what he did at the US trials to personally Christian

:21:00. > :21:06.Coleman, everybody thought he would become the US champion and Justin

:21:07. > :21:16.Gatlin just snuck in to take the title and he has done the same thing

:21:17. > :21:19.here. The world champion with 9.92, Justin Gatlin, who would have

:21:20. > :21:26.thought that? Michael, did you think that? I did not, I thought that Bolt

:21:27. > :21:32.would be challenged but I thought by Christian Coleman, I did not believe

:21:33. > :21:40.it would be Gatlin. Bolt was under pressure. I thought he was under

:21:41. > :21:45.pressure. He did not have to be here and you must give him credit, he

:21:46. > :21:52.came out here and he put himself out there, giving Gatlin and others the

:21:53. > :21:57.opportunity to beat him and I am sure lots of people are upset but I

:21:58. > :22:03.can guarantee you that Usain Bolt will not be upset. He is a

:22:04. > :22:12.competitor that he will know that life goes on. Yes, and this sport

:22:13. > :22:19.will go on and goodness me, we will miss him. This will be the race that

:22:20. > :22:22.nobody will replay. He came out of the blocks pretty well, just did not

:22:23. > :22:29.get on terms quickly enough with Christian Coleman. Watch Gatlin. The

:22:30. > :22:35.closest to the screen, he keep striving hard, remembering what it

:22:36. > :22:42.takes to win championships and thinking, I am not going to repeat

:22:43. > :22:49.last year. Maybe, Colin, I was talking to the Americans are here,

:22:50. > :22:53.they said he won the trials because nobody was watching him, they were

:22:54. > :22:57.watching Christian Coleman and others and he has done the same

:22:58. > :23:01.tonight. And he has not raised as many times on the circuit as when he

:23:02. > :23:10.was flying, if you can remember that. Perhaps, as he has got older,

:23:11. > :23:17.he has become smarter at racing. He was away from the action, he did not

:23:18. > :23:21.know where Usain Bolt was, nobody on his shoulder, he was getting on the

:23:22. > :23:28.shoulders of people. Working hard from the garden to the tape and he

:23:29. > :23:34.ended up surprising the world by taking this title. Huge egos, out of

:23:35. > :23:42.the blocks. Always good, technically. He works hard at the

:23:43. > :23:51.drive, all of the phases, very well. -- here he goes. With this huge

:23:52. > :23:58.boost, Steve, when he lined up... And when he finished. In his mind,

:23:59. > :24:06.he wanted to silence the crowd. Look at that response. Let's see what

:24:07. > :24:10.that does. We should explain, for some who maybe have not been around

:24:11. > :24:18.this sport for a very long time, Justin Gatlin hard two lengthy drug

:24:19. > :24:23.bans. Obviously the popular version of Justin Gatlin is as the villain

:24:24. > :24:27.of the piece and he has had to play that alongside Bolt throughout his

:24:28. > :24:36.career and that is the gold medal he has craved, Justin Gatlin, 9.92...

:24:37. > :24:39.And I have never said this before, the bronze medal to Usain Bolt of

:24:40. > :24:57.Jamaica. Usain Bolt taking his lap of honour,

:24:58. > :25:02.and honourable, incredible career and that is what this is all about,

:25:03. > :25:07.the crowd showing their appreciation for the joy and thrills he has given

:25:08. > :25:13.them over the last decade. And this is Usain Bolt showing his

:25:14. > :25:17.appreciation to this crowd and city that has given him so much support

:25:18. > :25:23.over the years that which he calls his second home. He loves the

:25:24. > :25:26.support that he has gotten from this crowd, his relationship with the

:25:27. > :25:34.fans has been amazing and I think he would want to go around and sign

:25:35. > :25:39.autographs and take pictures and show them just really how much he

:25:40. > :25:43.appreciates the support they have given him over the years. Justin

:25:44. > :25:52.Gatlin knows that he is painted as the villain. He heard the crowd, but

:25:53. > :25:57.he was bowing down to Usain Bolt. We did talk earlier in the evening,

:25:58. > :26:06.that he could be the protagonist. How do you feel? Last year, you

:26:07. > :26:10.would an American, so many people said, because you have won the gold

:26:11. > :26:19.before, silver must feel disappointing? But you are full of

:26:20. > :26:23.joy? Absolutely. There is disappointment, we wanted to see her

:26:24. > :26:28.moaning but he performs and entertains every time, like Michael

:26:29. > :26:32.says, he has come here to thank the public for their support over so

:26:33. > :26:37.many years and he will be happy, he has had the most amazing career and

:26:38. > :26:44.for us to witness this and watching him end his career, it is not gold

:26:45. > :26:49.but an incredible career. The fans that have come here to see him, the

:26:50. > :26:54.Jamaicans that live in the UK, getting to see their hero in the

:26:55. > :27:00.flesh and as you have said, he did not have to come here, he could have

:27:01. > :27:05.retired in glory? That is one of the things are spent so much about him,

:27:06. > :27:11.he is not afraid to come back and put it on the line. He is not afraid

:27:12. > :27:16.of the possibility that he would come here and he was not healthy,

:27:17. > :27:24.the possibility he would end his career losing. I put the pressure on

:27:25. > :27:30.myself, I only deal with the pressure I put on myself and the

:27:31. > :27:36.expectations I have and not others. Nothing will overshadow the amazing

:27:37. > :27:44.career that he has, I think the last image of Usain Bolt that people will

:27:45. > :27:50.have will be Beijing, the double Olympic and world championship that

:27:51. > :27:59.he has accomplished in the 100 and 200 and the amazing Relay. And being

:28:00. > :28:05.a great sportsman and show man and someone who has been unique and a

:28:06. > :28:10.great ambassador for the sport. Hugging, kisses, celebrations of a

:28:11. > :28:16.wonderful career. And I don't think many of us have got our head around

:28:17. > :28:21.the fact that we will not see him racing in a major championship

:28:22. > :28:26.again. It is sad, leaving the sport myself was emotional but to see

:28:27. > :28:30.somebody like Usain Bolt not being a part of this sporting arena any more

:28:31. > :28:39.is very sad to see is time for him to go. Christian Coleman look so

:28:40. > :28:45.relaxed in those semifinals and you perhaps felt this could be his time.

:28:46. > :28:49.Anyway, it would have felt more satisfactory if it was him at the

:28:50. > :28:55.top because you would feel that the new king had been launched and is

:28:56. > :29:00.back Christian Coleman has a bright future, it was just a long season

:29:01. > :29:04.for him and one race to many but still a great performance from him,
