:00:12. > :00:18.Welcome to BBC Two viewers who have joined our coverage. We are a few

:00:19. > :00:23.minutes away from the last event of the heptathlon, the 800 metres. Kata

:00:24. > :00:31.Rita -- Katarina Johnson-Thompson needs the run of her career. It is

:00:32. > :00:36.possible. On BBC One we will stay here to see this race so Poldark

:00:37. > :00:44.will follow on BBC One in five minutes. Athletics will continue on

:00:45. > :00:54.BBC Two. Let's join Steve Cram. Thank you. Let's look at the full

:00:55. > :01:00.start list. She's in fifth place. Vetter has had a brilliant

:01:01. > :01:08.competition. There's not much to choose between Vetter and Schafer.

:01:09. > :01:14.Four tenths of a second for Vetter to get ahead of Schafer. K J D would

:01:15. > :01:23.have to do something nobody has ever done before. -- KJ T.

:01:24. > :01:46.These are the athletes in descending order. Look at the personal best.

:01:47. > :01:55.KJT's personal-best is 2.0 six. The fastest ever heptathlon I can find

:01:56. > :02:03.in the final was two point 05. Jess has run 2.0 seven. She would have to

:02:04. > :02:09.go to war three seconds quicker to put any pressure at all on Vetter,

:02:10. > :02:16.who is not a good 800 metres runner. Rodriguez is in fourth place. She

:02:17. > :02:23.has a personal best of 2.12. We hope Kat can run quick enough to go into

:02:24. > :02:27.fourth. Vetter and Schafer look to be too distant, but, and it's a

:02:28. > :02:37.massive but, the slimmest of chances. Vetter and Chef -- Vetter

:02:38. > :02:43.and Schafer no medal is theirs. Thiam has been supreme, the Olympic

:02:44. > :02:48.champion. Nothing spectacular from the first event. Even that hurdles

:02:49. > :02:53.yesterday wasn't her best, but she's been solid all the way through and

:02:54. > :03:00.that high jump, oh dear, how much that has cost Katarina

:03:01. > :03:09.Johnson-Thompson. The final event of the heptathlon, the 800 metres. What

:03:10. > :03:13.does a coach say? There isn't any other instruction than just run as

:03:14. > :03:20.hard as you can. To do that in the 800, you have to be sensible. It's

:03:21. > :03:25.an interesting thought. I asked Jessica to be sensible another of

:03:26. > :03:37.times and the best of 2.07 summit she ran 59 seconds for the first

:03:38. > :03:45.400! Salman-Rath has run 28.75 for the first 200. To put that into

:03:46. > :03:52.context, that's 56 at the bell, two laps of that. 1.52? I don't think

:03:53. > :03:59.they will run 1.52 so rhythm is important. She has to run a big

:04:00. > :04:02.personal-best. Win this race, Johnson-Thompson, with the crowd

:04:03. > :04:12.behind her. She can't affect what happens behind her. The others have

:04:13. > :04:21.16 or 16 seconds. -- 16 or 17 seconds. Look at Rodriguez. She has

:04:22. > :04:26.a big gap between herself, she's in fourth place, and she's committed

:04:27. > :04:30.herself massively. She's gone with it. Schafer wants to put some

:04:31. > :04:35.distance between herself and Vetter so she can get silver. Katarina

:04:36. > :04:42.Johnson-Thompson responding. Has she got anything for the last 200

:04:43. > :04:49.metres? The German is out in front. Can she raise her game? She's giving

:04:50. > :04:55.it a go. The others are way too close for her to get a medal.

:04:56. > :05:00.Salman-Rath still leading. Katarina Johnson-Thompson trying to chase her

:05:01. > :05:05.home, doing her best, giving everything. Rodriguez is fading. We

:05:06. > :05:14.look for the battle behind. Watch the clock. It's going to be about

:05:15. > :05:22.2.07. Katarina Johnson-Thompson will be close to a personal best. Here

:05:23. > :05:30.they come behind. Vetter crosses the line in about 2.19. About 12

:05:31. > :05:35.seconds. Sadly it won't be enough to affect the medals. It means Schafer

:05:36. > :05:41.will move into the silver medal position. I don't know whether or

:05:42. > :05:49.not Rodriguez has moved up... He's shaking her head. Schafer will get

:05:50. > :05:55.bronze. Thiam the gold-medallist. Not always across the line first,

:05:56. > :05:59.but another supreme competition from the Olympic champion. A case of what

:06:00. > :06:07.might have been for Katarina Johnson-Thompson. (STUDIO) she gave

:06:08. > :06:17.it everything in that 800 metres, but it was just too big a gap for

:06:18. > :06:20.her. 2.07. That's it for the athletics on BBC One, time for

:06:21. > :06:41.Poldark. The athletics is on BBC Two. Join us on BBC Two.

:06:42. > :06:50.The Olympic Stadium in the Queen Elizabeth Park as night falls and

:06:51. > :06:56.the athletics programme for Day three is drawing to a close. Two

:06:57. > :07:02.days of events for the heptathlon have come to an end. Denise and Jess

:07:03. > :07:07.are alongside me, you both know the motion that goes through when you've

:07:08. > :07:11.put so much into seven events. This is the first time you've seen a

:07:12. > :07:17.major championship since retirement where you want the one everyone is

:07:18. > :07:21.hugging! I know exactly how it feels and you're physically exhausted,

:07:22. > :07:29.mentally drained. This is such a nice moment, to share it with the

:07:30. > :07:34.girls. You've got through the two days of gruelling competition. It's

:07:35. > :07:39.an amazing feeling and 40 amp to become well champion at the age she

:07:40. > :07:47.is, it's incredible. -- and four Thiam. She's a champion. She's had

:07:48. > :07:51.an incredible two years from 11 thin the World Championships in 2015,

:07:52. > :07:57.Olympic champion a year later and now well champion. There is some

:07:58. > :08:02.great talent bursting through and it promising -- aid promises to be an

:08:03. > :08:11.exciting few years ahead. She has so much potential to come. She hasn't

:08:12. > :08:16.tapped into all her ability yet. To have Carolin Schafer come through

:08:17. > :08:17.the way she has, "Months in the last two years, it bodes well for the

:08:18. > :08:28.event. Katarina Johnson-Thompson will be

:08:29. > :08:33.reflecting on the two days. She will know exactly what she's done wrong,

:08:34. > :08:37.exactly where she could have picked up more points and exactly what

:08:38. > :08:41.she's got to do if she wants to get these seven events together. She has

:08:42. > :08:47.the talent, she has the potential to get onto the rostrum. It's

:08:48. > :08:54.incredibly frustrating. I know Kat, she's run, she'll be thinking, what

:08:55. > :09:01.is it? Whiny again? -- wide me again. People will ask what if she

:09:02. > :09:10.could have got on the rostrum. Incredible javelin. Kat has to think

:09:11. > :09:16.long and hard about her progression. Everyone is moving forward and she's

:09:17. > :09:21.just standing still a little bit. We know she's got fantastic talent, but

:09:22. > :09:26.for the high jump where would she have placed? What was her potential

:09:27. > :09:32.now we know the results? Where could she have placed? Definitely a

:09:33. > :09:38.medallist. I wouldn't say gold, but maybe bronze or silver. She has

:09:39. > :09:42.changed, she's moved from Britain to France so there's a lot of

:09:43. > :09:47.information to ingest in the last six or seven months. A lot of

:09:48. > :09:52.technical changes. She's travelling two welds at the moment. I am

:09:53. > :09:57.confident with another good winter behind her, the confidence is clear

:09:58. > :10:01.that it's improving because the second day wasn't bad. Her second

:10:02. > :10:05.day was good, but it's a tough event, even when you're successful

:10:06. > :10:12.it's tough and it can grind you down. I worry for Kat because she's

:10:13. > :10:17.had so many setbacks. She keeps coming back, but the high jump she

:10:18. > :10:23.can work on, but the throwing and some of the other areas she needs to

:10:24. > :10:27.get them right to be on the podium. It's not my School of thought that

:10:28. > :10:31.you only focus on your strengths. You need to address those

:10:32. > :10:36.weaknesses. Her javelin was much better, but the shot, the model

:10:37. > :10:41.still is in there. You have to walk in the circle and trust your

:10:42. > :10:49.technique and she is not there yet. Her best events really let her down,

:10:50. > :10:53.I think. To see her happy with 6.56, it's not like Kat and normally she'd

:10:54. > :11:04.be disappointed. These scenes are lovely. The points are in. Steve,

:11:05. > :11:08.take us through the final result. It was a busy two days for the

:11:09. > :11:14.heptathlete is culminating in that 800 metres. It didn't go smoothly

:11:15. > :11:19.for Katarina Johnson-Thompson, as we'd hoped. The high jump this time

:11:20. > :11:28.was what let her down. Here are the final results. Johnson-Thompson, if

:11:29. > :11:33.she had gone clear at 1.95 in the high jump, which she did comfortably

:11:34. > :11:37.last year, she would have been right behind Nafi Thiam chasing the gold

:11:38. > :11:47.medal. The almost 200 points she lost in the high jump cost her dear.

:11:48. > :11:52.The athlete at the top, Thiam, world champion.

:11:53. > :12:03.This is a look back at the pole vault that took place a few moments

:12:04. > :12:08.ago. Ekaterini Stefanidi, the Olympic champion. Unbeaten in 2017.

:12:09. > :12:16.She's been flawless again this evening. 4.82. She is so consistent.

:12:17. > :12:22.Not her best clearance, a fair rattle, but the bar stayed aloft.

:12:23. > :12:27.She just finds a way of winning. She is not necessarily the best on

:12:28. > :12:33.paper, but she wins time and time again because of her consistency. As

:12:34. > :12:42.it turns out, she didn't know it at the time, but that was the gold

:12:43. > :12:52.medal winning jump. Morris passed at 4.80 nine. -- 4.89. She adds another

:12:53. > :12:56.gold medal to her outstanding collection. Sandi Morris had to

:12:57. > :13:03.settle for silver in Rio and same result here. She had to go clear

:13:04. > :13:15.here at 4.89. She got a bit sideways on that. Silver for Morris.

:13:16. > :13:32.That was all a few moments ago. 4.91, the bar has been raised to.

:13:33. > :13:43.The championship record is 5.01. 4.91. Wow! That is a world leading

:13:44. > :13:51.jump and it underlines her dominance. Icing on the cake. She's

:13:52. > :13:56.already won. That's a really impressive jump. No one really

:13:57. > :14:03.doubted it. The world leading jump so far was hers at 4.80 five. Gold,

:14:04. > :14:17.on top of the world in every sense. Ekaterini Stefanidi. A failure at

:14:18. > :14:23.4.89 but then 4.91. A fist pump from her coach. Gold for Greece. It's the

:14:24. > :14:30.kind of consistency that brings medals. A hug from Sandi Morris in

:14:31. > :14:43.silver. It's all getting rather busy now.

:14:44. > :14:48.It's time for the 800 men. Three very tough semifinal is coming up.

:14:49. > :14:53.Adam Kszczot Boland, the two-time European champion. Polish 1500

:14:54. > :15:02.champion. Our 1500 champion, Elliot Giles, but he's better at 800. He

:15:03. > :15:08.will know how tough the task is with only two to qualify. Nijel Amos, one

:15:09. > :15:12.of the favourites for the gold-medal, back to the sort of form

:15:13. > :15:17.that saw him chase home David Rudisha in this stadium in 2012.

:15:18. > :15:27.Isaiah Harris of the United States. The Americans have three very good

:15:28. > :15:28.runners in the semifinals. Rotich. Ferguson Cheruiyot Rotich. Named

:15:29. > :15:48.after Alex Ferguson. Guy Learmonth, a month ago you might

:15:49. > :15:52.not think he was going to be here, because of the season he was having.

:15:53. > :16:02.He went to the British Championship, came in the top two, got the

:16:03. > :16:08.qualifying time and got through. And so did Elliott Giles. The other we

:16:09. > :16:13.haven't seen in Kevin Lopez. Top two, two fastest through to the

:16:14. > :16:25.final. Kyle Langford goes in the next one. They will want to have

:16:26. > :16:31.somebody take it up quickly with Amos in this. Ayouni has gone

:16:32. > :16:37.quickest through the first 150 metres. Amos now coached by Mark

:16:38. > :16:45.Rowland and he will want to control this. Rotich. A bit of pushing and

:16:46. > :16:53.shoving. It is slower than they wanted. It is the Kenyan Rotich in

:16:54. > :16:58.the front. It almost has to slow down. This is a difficult task for

:16:59. > :17:02.the two British athletes. You want them to get amongst them. Get as

:17:03. > :17:06.high as they can and hope the basis fast enough. The two qualifiers will

:17:07. > :17:15.be very difficult to beat. The first two and two fastest losers. 52 for

:17:16. > :17:21.the opening lap and Amos following Rotich. Giles is in a good position.

:17:22. > :17:32.Behind them Learmonth, who has been running well. Harris coming out

:17:33. > :17:46.wide. Rotich is pushing and shoving and Amos pushes out. Learmonth gets

:17:47. > :17:56.himself out. The Poll striking for home. Two Brits in fourth and fifth.

:17:57. > :18:13.The Poll is doing what he does best. He wins it. Amos second. I don't

:18:14. > :18:20.think Learmonth obviously technically has still got an

:18:21. > :18:30.opportunity. Brendan, you know, when they run 53 or 52.95, this guy puts

:18:31. > :18:35.himself in the right place. Learmonth was fifth in the end.

:18:36. > :18:41.They're both out. Fifth and sixth. You look at your semi and you see

:18:42. > :18:51.how tough it was, they did well in the heats. I don't know what else do

:18:52. > :19:02.you do. You're right. Rotich there Amos on the outside of him. Amos is

:19:03. > :19:23.running into the outer lane. Amos is a real

:19:24. > :19:29.talent. The two British runners are doing well. Moving into fifth and

:19:30. > :19:42.sixth. But the pace wasn't fast enough.

:19:43. > :19:59.I would be surprised if any other than the top two will qualify.

:20:00. > :20:30.Here are the times. Rotich will have an anxious wait. Kszczot and Amos

:20:31. > :20:37.safely through. The time of 1. 46. 49 for Rotich looks vulnerable. Tom

:20:38. > :20:42.Walsh of New Zealand is having a good competition here. Here is a

:20:43. > :20:51.look back to what he did in the third round. He is in the lead with

:20:52. > :21:02.21.64. Used to work 30 hours a week as a body builder. That was a slight

:21:03. > :21:12.improvement. The Americans at the moment, Kovacs and Crouser sitting

:21:13. > :21:18.behind the Kiwi. Times it perfectly. Really good example of rotational

:21:19. > :21:32.shot put technique there from Tom Walsh. He is only 1.85 tall. Very

:21:33. > :21:39.fast, very powerful. And this is Kovacs's response in that round

:21:40. > :21:45.three. Another big effort from him. Suffered with a groin injury all

:21:46. > :21:50.year, the raivening world champion -- reigning world champion. He is

:21:51. > :21:56.down on what he can do. Much quicker, more athletic in many ways.

:21:57. > :22:03.But it is down on Walsh's throw. He is in the silver medal position at

:22:04. > :22:05.the moment. That was a throw of 21.66. Very close for the medals.

:22:06. > :22:20.Three throws remaining. This is the second semi-final. And

:22:21. > :22:29.Kupers does not start. That is to the advantage of others. Kupers

:22:30. > :22:33.would have been challenging. The others have a greater chance to go

:22:34. > :22:42.through as one of the automatic qualifiers. Kyle Langford waits for

:22:43. > :22:46.his introduction. He knows he rode his luck to come through. Can he

:22:47. > :22:50.find something, and get himself closer to the mix with a couple of

:22:51. > :22:55.hundred metres to go? He is going to find something special to go

:22:56. > :23:10.through. But he has given himself a chance.

:23:11. > :23:25.The Americans have three runners through. What a good run from

:23:26. > :23:34.Kszczot. Lewandowski has also been a great strength for Polish middle

:23:35. > :23:41.distance running. Windle third at the US Championships and with the

:23:42. > :23:42.pedigree to move through here. Brandon McBride, the Canadian

:23:43. > :23:56.champion was second in Monaco. Korir, no David Rudisha. But this

:23:57. > :24:21.man for Kenya, what a talent he is. Gakeme of Burundi. Alzofairi, the

:24:22. > :24:34.new Asian champion. And then Kyle Langford waits for the noise of

:24:35. > :24:40.60,000. This track brought his personal best in the Diamond League

:24:41. > :24:43.meeting last month and he will need something beyond that go through. To

:24:44. > :24:49.give himself a chance and get himself close. Not rely on a kick

:24:50. > :24:55.finish. Which would have served him well in years past as a junior. But

:24:56. > :25:05.this a far bigger stage. The second semi-final in the men's 800 metres.

:25:06. > :25:10.Korir, the 22-year-old talent can afford to sit at the back and let

:25:11. > :25:15.the others watch. Just seven going. Kupers is missing. Two places and

:25:16. > :25:22.two fastest losers and there is a chance to be a fastest loser, it

:25:23. > :25:26.wasn't a fast first semi-final. A new stage for Langford. He has also

:25:27. > :25:33.got the biggest support he will ever get. Now the key to this race is to

:25:34. > :25:40.keep going at this sort of pace. They know 1. 46 is a time all they

:25:41. > :25:46.can run faster than. There is some talent around Langford. He looks

:25:47. > :25:50.good. We saw Kszczot steal this one and his team mate Lewandowski

:25:51. > :25:55.getting ready. This is an important part of race for Kyle. He has got to

:25:56. > :26:02.stick to his task. He has some rare talent around him. He has to hold it

:26:03. > :26:13.there and let's hope he can do that. The crowd try and lift him. Kyle

:26:14. > :26:18.Langford digging in. But Lewandowski coming past him. He is trying to get

:26:19. > :26:25.back, but ahead of them a few paces ahead McBride and Korir. Two to go

:26:26. > :26:32.through and the rest looking for fastest losers placer. Korir is

:26:33. > :26:39.starting to struggle a bit. His head is bobbing as Lewandowski hunts him

:26:40. > :26:42.down. Korir is in trouble. Lewandowski chasing and Kyle

:26:43. > :26:48.Langford gets second place and goes through to the World Championship

:26:49. > :26:53.final! He has done it. He has run it. What happened to Korir? That is

:26:54. > :26:57.not a concern for Kyle Langford. Because he has judged so many races

:26:58. > :27:03.in the past perhaps not so wisely. But that one was judged perfectly

:27:04. > :27:11.and Kyle Langford's record is a place in the final. Well, a truly

:27:12. > :27:15.deserved final spot. The men's 800 metres, one of Britain's favourite

:27:16. > :27:19.events and it is great to know we will be represented in the final. I

:27:20. > :27:24.don't like the finals going out without British athletes. I wouldn't

:27:25. > :27:28.have liked the men's 800 without a British athlete. When he was

:27:29. > :27:33.introduced there was a roar. But there was such a roar in the home

:27:34. > :27:40.straight. It wasn't for McBride, who has run famously. Korir, we expected

:27:41. > :27:45.so much from him and in the finishing straight he is propelled

:27:46. > :27:50.by the fact he is in the straight and chasing down Lewandowski and

:27:51. > :27:54.Korir. He has been a junior winner and this is the best race he has run

:27:55. > :28:00.in his life. Second place in the semi-final and we are looking at

:28:01. > :28:04.some athletes ahead of him who should have been ahead of him. But

:28:05. > :28:08.there was a switch and another gear for Kyle Langford and a performance,

:28:09. > :28:12.I'm delighted to see the young man, 21 years of age, and that roar, he

:28:13. > :28:18.will never hear the like of that again. This was a fantastic

:28:19. > :28:23.performance. Great finishing speed. Holding his form, holding his style

:28:24. > :28:28.and he made 60,000 people very, very happy. A great performance by the

:28:29. > :28:34.young man. A controlled performance in the finishing straight. Korir,

:28:35. > :28:38.who promised such a lot, had nothing left in that finishing drive.

:28:39. > :28:45.McBride was comfortable. Langford into the time. Well done, Kyle.

:28:46. > :28:51.Brilliant. He said he was going to run his heart out and he did that

:28:52. > :28:55.and he will go through to the final. Brendan saying brilliant, I think we

:28:56. > :29:06.all echo that. Describe that last hundred metres for you. Well, I feel

:29:07. > :29:13.a bit shattered, I was thinking stay down, good contention, see what p

:29:14. > :29:19.happens. I was feeling good. But I got a bit cramped up again. With the

:29:20. > :29:23.group. And... Got to the last hundred I felt good and me and John

:29:24. > :29:27.it was before, we were doing a drill with cones and it was remember the

:29:28. > :29:33.drills, keep your knees up and I did it. I brushed up on the the mistakes

:29:34. > :29:40.yesterday and showed I'm still learning. I had a bad run yesterday.

:29:41. > :29:44.Better today. What about the realise that yourself a World Championship

:29:45. > :29:48.finalist in London? It is my goal to get into this final. From the start

:29:49. > :29:55.of season. It has been rocky. Burr I'm here now and -- but I'm here

:29:56. > :30:00.now. Well done. Thank you. What a run and Kyle Langford will go

:30:01. > :30:09.through to the final. Brandon McBride ran an impressive race. It

:30:10. > :30:11.is not all over for Korir. He might be in the final, because he is one

:30:12. > :30:25.of two fastest losers as it stands. Just a reflection on that

:30:26. > :30:29.heptathlon. This is Belgian's first gold medal in the World

:30:30. > :30:35.Championships. It's taken a long time, they've had some great

:30:36. > :30:38.athletes, but Nafi Thiam wins their first gold medal. Katarina

:30:39. > :30:43.Johnson-Thompson in fifth place and cheese chat -- chatting to fill.

:30:44. > :30:48.Fifth place in the world is a tremendous thing normally. But with

:30:49. > :30:52.the talent you've got and the kind of athlete you are and the kind of

:30:53. > :30:57.high jump you could have achieved, it's what might have been. It always

:30:58. > :31:01.seems to be that way with me. I've got a lot of talent and I feel like

:31:02. > :31:08.one of these days it will happen for me. I knew it was always going to be

:31:09. > :31:13.difficult bouncing back. I feel like I've done a good job trying to find

:31:14. > :31:18.myself and now I feel a bit defeatist. I've tried to change my

:31:19. > :31:23.attitude and I feel like I came back and showed that even though I had a

:31:24. > :31:27.difficult time in the second event I'm a fighter. You had a stellar 200

:31:28. > :31:32.metres and then released wrong second day. Maybe long jump you

:31:33. > :31:37.could have found more, but generally a really good second day. The first

:31:38. > :31:44.time I've ever thrown over 40 in the javelin three times in a row. 800, I

:31:45. > :31:48.haven't had a time like that since Moscow in 2013 so I'm happy with

:31:49. > :31:53.that. The long jump is solid but I know I'm better than that. Denise

:31:54. > :31:59.Lewis talking about the big change you made going from Britain to front

:32:00. > :32:02.and taking in that information, technical changes. Not only the

:32:03. > :32:07.mental attitude but the technical side as well, getting it right is

:32:08. > :32:17.gay. It's been stripped down, my mental attitude. Bas macro getting

:32:18. > :32:23.it right is key. London 2017I wanted it to come together, but I feel

:32:24. > :32:27.positive for the future. We appreciate you talking to us. All

:32:28. > :32:35.the best. I hope she can take something from

:32:36. > :32:41.this. One or two shocks already in the 800 metres. Kyle Langford into

:32:42. > :32:45.the final is the best shot. This has Donavan Brazier, one of my favourite

:32:46. > :32:57.athletes to watch at the moment. Kipyegon Bett, the world junior jab

:32:58. > :33:05.before. Bosse will be a danger. Aman not in the best of form. Andre is a

:33:06. > :33:14.good runner. He was fourth in the world junior Championships in 2014.

:33:15. > :33:19.This guy broke the United States junior record which belonged to the

:33:20. > :33:26.great Jim Ryan. He's been under 1.44 this year. A really nice looking

:33:27. > :33:33.runner. Mohamed Aman, world champion in Moscow in 2013. World Indoor

:33:34. > :33:42.Championships on two occasions as well. Michal Rozmys.

:33:43. > :33:55.Let's have a look at the introduction for peer Ambrose Boss.

:33:56. > :33:58.A bit of a character. Watch this. -- Pierre-Ambroise Bosse. That's his

:33:59. > :34:16.own tribute, that's nice. Here we go. This is the last of the

:34:17. > :34:23.semifinals. Two fastest losers. 1:45.90 three. One of the preevent

:34:24. > :34:28.favourites for tenure, will he go out? It will depend on the pace they

:34:29. > :34:34.set. None of these are natural frontrunners. Bosse will want to sit

:34:35. > :34:40.there. Bett has gone to the front. It's what happens from here. If they

:34:41. > :34:46.go to slow from the next 300 metres, the fast time will go and they have

:34:47. > :34:51.slowed. 24 seconds and then they slowed. The last heat is an

:34:52. > :35:00.advantage because you know what to do. They are capable of 1.45. Four

:35:01. > :35:07.could qualify from here. Bosse on the outside. A genie and hasn't

:35:08. > :35:10.automatically qualified in the men's 800 metres yet and that's a

:35:11. > :35:25.surprise. -- a Kenyan. I'm a bit worried for brazier. Bosse

:35:26. > :35:30.is in good form after some injury problems. Have they got enough to

:35:31. > :35:38.kick? Where is brazier going? Looking in trouble. He's such a

:35:39. > :35:44.talent. Bett kicks from the fund. Aman finds something. It's all about

:35:45. > :35:55.the clock. Donavan Brazier with a terrible run. Bosse may have done

:35:56. > :36:06.enough. We may have all four. We'll just watch the clock. Kipyegon Bett

:36:07. > :36:09.may have just made sure that his two team-mates, Ferguson and Emanuel

:36:10. > :36:13.career have not made it through to the final by going quickly.

:36:14. > :36:19.Lewandowski will be hanging onto the next time. Bosse and Andre, third

:36:20. > :36:29.and fourth here, we'll go through to the final. That's a shock. Brazier

:36:30. > :36:35.has gone. Cheruiyot has gone. Correa has gone. It's opened up. It has

:36:36. > :36:41.opened up. Some athletes you expected to be on the rostrum aren't

:36:42. > :36:48.even in the final. Bett is the only Kenyan in the final. He wasn't going

:36:49. > :36:54.to be beaten. Aman of Ethiopian has been struggling with his form, with

:36:55. > :37:00.everything. Bosse keeping to the task. The Brazilian athlete coming

:37:01. > :37:06.through as well. Brazier out of it. Bett looks good and strong. Aman

:37:07. > :37:11.always looks under pressure. Bosse has done well to get back. Andre

:37:12. > :37:14.from Brazil has come through. The good news is there's one Kenyan in

:37:15. > :37:21.the final, there's always a Kenyan in the final of the men's 800

:37:22. > :37:26.metres! And a Brit in the final. We can look forward to the men's 800

:37:27. > :37:37.metres. Bosse and Andre, fastest qualifiers. That's the event leader

:37:38. > :37:44.in the shot put final, Tom Walsh. Just three throws remaining in the

:37:45. > :37:52.final round. Stipe Zunic of Croatia is guaranteed a bronze medal. Can he

:37:53. > :37:57.improve? Kovacs is ahead of him. It's not going to threaten. I think

:37:58. > :38:05.he might have fouled. He looks pleased with that. The Croatian is

:38:06. > :38:11.the national record-holder from earlier this year. A former world

:38:12. > :38:18.junior kick box champion so he can do what he likes! Nobody will stop

:38:19. > :38:27.him. He moved to athletics in 2008. He tried javelin and then shot put.

:38:28. > :38:34.Zoo Nick, bronze medal. Slightly surprisingly. Crouser probably the

:38:35. > :38:41.biggest upset so far. He's in sixth place. His competition is over. His

:38:42. > :38:46.best of the evening was 21.20. Last chance to challenge the lead of Tom

:38:47. > :39:01.Walsh for Joe Kovacs. Massive! But it's a red flag. He doesn't like it.

:39:02. > :39:08.He's not happy. The American reigning champion. We need to see

:39:09. > :39:12.this. I'm sure the man with the red flag is right. It's just an

:39:13. > :39:18.emotional response. He hit the top of the stock board. Not in the

:39:19. > :39:26.recovery but during the throw. That's as close as it gets. Over 22

:39:27. > :39:30.metres. Joe Kovacs has to settle for silver. What a dramatic end to the

:39:31. > :39:37.competition. He's really not happy, but it was a foul. I wouldn't like

:39:38. > :39:44.to tell him! Shall I pop down and have a word? Here is the champion of

:39:45. > :39:54.the world. Bronze medal last year at the Olympics. A brilliant series. He

:39:55. > :40:04.left his best until last as well. What an excellent finish.

:40:05. > :40:20.Congratulations from Kovacs. What a victory that is. A surprise victory.

:40:21. > :40:23.22.03. Bronze last year. Gold ahead of two highly fancied Americans.

:40:24. > :40:31.America have been so dominant in this event in the past. Joe Kovacs,

:40:32. > :40:36.Reese Hoffa, Adam Nelson, CJ Hunter. A long list of American world

:40:37. > :40:40.champions. But not good enough today. Tom Walsh of New Zealand

:40:41. > :40:52.finishing off with his best of the evening. A gold medal. Kovacs, a

:40:53. > :40:58.controversial end. He had to settle for silver. I didn't think he would

:40:59. > :41:09.accept it at one point. It was a long effort, 21.66. Nice to see a

:41:10. > :41:13.New Zealander, a member of the Commonwealth, winning a gold medal.

:41:14. > :41:24.Commonwealth Games in Australia next so he won't have far to travel.

:41:25. > :41:32.Well, great gold medal for New Zealand. Where is the gold medal

:41:33. > :41:36.going in this 800 metres? This was the result of the last semifinal.

:41:37. > :41:40.Donavan Brazier, I'm told his shoelaces were undone all the way

:41:41. > :41:51.through. That was a surprising performance from the talented

:41:52. > :41:57.American. It means that Britain's Kyle Langford, 21 years old, has

:41:58. > :42:01.made it through to the final. Amos is the favourite, but who knows what

:42:02. > :42:06.might happen. (STUDIO) Kyle Langford's parents run

:42:07. > :42:14.a Chipi. If you go in tomorrow, you might get an extra large portion of

:42:15. > :42:20.chips with your fish! This music signals that it's time to get out of

:42:21. > :42:27.here. At 9:50pm, the fastest woman in the world will be crowned. Let's

:42:28. > :42:43.have a look at the eight contenders after the three semifinals.

:42:44. > :42:59.Barry Jose Ta Lou, 10.87. -- marry Jose Ta Lou.

:43:00. > :43:13.As expected, Thompson easing back. What about Sam Cross?

:43:14. > :43:41.Elaine Thompson of Jamaica is the outstanding candidate. Those trying

:43:42. > :43:46.to beat her are two athletes from Trinidad and Tobago and two from the

:43:47. > :43:54.Ivory Coast. Dafne Schippers of Europe holding up the European flag.

:43:55. > :44:00.It's interesting how the global swing in sprinting is happening. Who

:44:01. > :44:03.can beat Elaine Thompson? Her effortless style, Michael, and the

:44:04. > :44:10.way she's cruised through the heats and semifinals she looks unbeatable.

:44:11. > :44:14.Looks impressive. Marie-Josee Ta Lou has looked very good this year.

:44:15. > :44:19.She's been very consistent. She will be quick out of the blocks. She's in

:44:20. > :44:27.lame four. Elaine Thompson has most of the big names, Tori Bowie being

:44:28. > :44:29.the biggest, to her right. We could see a situation like Justin Gatlin

:44:30. > :44:33.last night where the surprise comes from the far side of the track. Tori

:44:34. > :44:39.Bowie is running great and she will have something to say. Elaine

:44:40. > :44:44.Thompson, it's her race to lose and she executes pretty well. I haven't

:44:45. > :44:50.seen her put a foot wrong in these championships. She does what is

:44:51. > :44:53.expected. She has that very jovial, relaxed mindset and emotional state

:44:54. > :45:02.before she gets on the blocks and then it's all business.

:45:03. > :45:17.It is Jamaican independence day and I think Thomas is head

:45:18. > :45:26.and shoulders over everyone. I think she could give a good race. It is

:45:27. > :45:32.the big walk on. Are you a fan of the showbiz entrance. I do like

:45:33. > :45:37.watching them. But I don't know how much I like doing them. Baptiste

:45:38. > :45:50.giving it some. She is enjoying that. A lovely smile and she is

:45:51. > :45:59.milking that. Tori Bowie. She's gone. I'm just so nervous when I

:46:00. > :46:12.come out. I don't want to smile. No smile from her!

:46:13. > :46:21.Ahye always likes some show business. Santos of Brazil. She has

:46:22. > :46:29.had a great Championships. A huge personal best. We will have to watch

:46:30. > :46:36.for her as well. They just want to get to the start line. They want to

:46:37. > :46:42.check their blocks and get into the zone. What can this girl do, she has

:46:43. > :46:49.an electric start. Can she hold her form. I think she can. She held it

:46:50. > :46:56.at the end. But it will be difficult against this woman, she will be

:46:57. > :47:03.coming. So many contrasting styles and ways to run the event. She does

:47:04. > :47:08.it the best in terms of style and two contrasting style, Ta Lou and

:47:09. > :47:12.Schippers. And Schippers, the way she has run through the

:47:13. > :47:16.championship, Michael. She Schippers has been laboured and has not been

:47:17. > :47:21.sharp. Maybe she has got race sharp leading into the final. We will see.

:47:22. > :47:28.She is out of blocks, Ta Lou to the left. Ta Lou quick and fluid and

:47:29. > :47:34.Schippers starting to labour and get tight in her shoulders and she slows

:47:35. > :47:41.down quicker than Ta Lou. But again Ta Lou, this is what we are going to

:47:42. > :47:46.see in the final. Got great drive phase, gets a great start. Much more

:47:47. > :47:50.efficient. Denise talked about whether she can hold that. She did

:47:51. > :47:55.in the semi-final. She started to open the gap. We will see if she can

:47:56. > :48:01.do it against the others in the final. Elaine Thompson who, has the

:48:02. > :48:04.most natural, beautiful, if you want to copy any style in this

:48:05. > :48:11.Championship, you would go for her wouldn't you? It is not the quickest

:48:12. > :48:17.start. But just at this point she is pulling a bit to the right of the

:48:18. > :48:22.lane. That is significant in a semi-final. Quick out of the blocks.

:48:23. > :48:26.Great drive phase. But effortless here. This is what you want. The

:48:27. > :48:30.more efficient you can get down the track, with speed, which she has,

:48:31. > :48:36.the quicker you're going to run. That is what with we see. She can do

:48:37. > :48:40.it better than anyone and it is nothing something you can

:48:41. > :48:43.necessarily coach. It is just a natural stride and natural body

:48:44. > :48:48.position that she has and technique she has and it is a great weapon for

:48:49. > :48:56.her. If you have been a Jamaican sprinter in the last decade, you're

:48:57. > :49:04.lost the spotlight to a certain Mr Usain Bolt. Perhaps if she was from

:49:05. > :49:09.another nation she would have g more recognition. With the events of last

:49:10. > :49:13.night it is time for her to shine and with no gold medal they would

:49:14. > :49:17.love it on independence day. Yes they were quiet last night. I spoke

:49:18. > :49:21.to my uncle and they were quiet. This is the moment they can make a

:49:22. > :49:28.difference. Andrew Cotter take it away. COMMENTATOR: A less familiar

:49:29. > :49:32.look to this final. Two from the Ivory Coast and two from Trinidad

:49:33. > :49:38.Tobago and only one from the United States and one from Jamaica. But it

:49:39. > :49:42.that is Jamaican in lane 6 who all will be trying to beat. Elaine

:49:43. > :49:52.Thompson starts as the clear favourite. Tori Bowie behind her in

:49:53. > :50:07.Rio. Ta Lou impressive in qualifying again. Thompson waits in two. First

:50:08. > :50:15.to be introduced is Kelly Ann Baptiste. World bronze-medallist in

:50:16. > :50:32.2011. She has served a drug ban. Back and running very quickly. And

:50:33. > :50:37.Michelle Lee Ahye there. Marie Josee Ta Lou delivers on the big stage. In

:50:38. > :50:45.Rio, a personal best in five of her six races. And what about Santos of

:50:46. > :50:50.Brazil? A huge slice off her personal best. The south American

:50:51. > :50:58.record. But where there was Usain Bolt last night, Jammeh can turns to

:50:59. > :51:03.Elaine Thompson. The Olympic champion over 100 and 200 in Rio.

:51:04. > :51:08.Not doing the 200 here. It is all on this. Tori Bowie will run the 200. A

:51:09. > :51:13.good start, she could get close to Thompson. It has not been a great

:51:14. > :51:24.day for Americans qualifying on the track. Murielle Ahoure goes in lane

:51:25. > :51:31.8. Had one very quick time this season of 10.83. And Daphne

:51:32. > :51:38.Schippers, just a shade off her very best. She will go in the 200. If she

:51:39. > :51:41.can get a quick start and get herself moving in the latter stages,

:51:42. > :52:03.she could challenge for a medal. 50,000 or so will fall silent for

:52:04. > :52:12.the final track event of this evening. Baptiste and Ahye and Ta

:52:13. > :52:28.Lou, Santos, Thompson, Bowie and Ahoure and Schippers.

:52:29. > :52:40.Thamp son with a stumble and she has gone. Ta Lou will take it. The

:52:41. > :52:44.golden boy who falls to earth, but the gold belongs to Ta Lou. What an

:52:45. > :52:54.upset and Elaine Thompson was nowhere in it. Marie Josee Ta Lou

:52:55. > :53:01.rules the world in the women's 100 metres. In fact, no, Torre Bowie has

:53:02. > :53:08.been given it on the line by 100th of a second. Ta Lou thought she had

:53:09. > :53:12.it. I thought she had it. But Tori Bowie will get to her feet and see

:53:13. > :53:18.she is the world champion over 100 metres. Elaine Thompson offers her

:53:19. > :53:25.congratulations. What happened to Thompson? And instead it is Tori

:53:26. > :53:29.Bowie who turns silver from the Olympics into gold. So many

:53:30. > :53:36.questions for Thompson. But it is Bowie's gold and we will watch the

:53:37. > :53:42.replay and wonder what happened. From the gun Ta Lou is out. We

:53:43. > :53:46.expected that. She has to hang on. Bowie has the ability to claw her

:53:47. > :53:51.back in. We saw that in the semi-finals. She had things in the

:53:52. > :53:58.bag. But Elaine Thompson could not get in the race. Huge surprise.

:53:59. > :54:04.United States takes the men's 100 and the women's 100 metres. That is

:54:05. > :54:09.a dip from Tori Bowie to take it. What a way to win it. Elaine

:54:10. > :54:15.Thompson, you think she is going to pick up. But there was a bit of a

:54:16. > :54:19.half wobble there from her. Yeah, it looked like she missed a stride,

:54:20. > :54:25.missed a step and that was part of her acceleration and she was just

:54:26. > :54:30.left completely left. What is interesting, she cruised through to

:54:31. > :54:35.a time in the semi-final that was faster than what won that title

:54:36. > :54:42.there. So she will be asking herself exactly what did go wrong. Marie

:54:43. > :54:47.Josie Ta Lou may have thought she had it. But it gold for the United

:54:48. > :54:53.States and Tori Bowie and you think of the dip from Miller in the 400 in

:54:54. > :55:01.Rio to take gold from Felix. That was as much due to tired legs. But

:55:02. > :55:07.that was a perfect dip. Gold for Bowie, silver for Ta Lou. And it was

:55:08. > :55:12.Daphne Schippers who sneaks in to take bronze. Would that have been

:55:13. > :55:18.the first three, would you have said that would be the first three? Well

:55:19. > :55:24.Elaine Thompson not in the medals and she is talking to Phil. A great

:55:25. > :55:31.surprise for us, what about you? I'm feeling great. I mean, I have to

:55:32. > :55:41.give the three girls a lot of credit. I tried to ex-cute. I

:55:42. > :55:46.planned it too. But I'm healthy. Was there anything in particular that

:55:47. > :55:51.didn't go right for you? Well I tried to get a start. The first run,

:55:52. > :55:56.I got a start, but I don't know what happened. I will have the look back

:55:57. > :56:01.and watch. I had a good race. In terms of quality of field, you know,

:56:02. > :56:06.you run with these girls on the Diamond League circuit and you beat

:56:07. > :56:13.them all the time. So... Can you quite put it into context? Well as I

:56:14. > :56:19.said, it was a strong field I have competed with these girls all

:56:20. > :56:26.season. I have to give Tori and Ta Lou credit. Thank you for talking to

:56:27. > :56:32.us. You're welcome. She is remaining very sanguine about it. But that was

:56:33. > :56:37.everyone saying who can beat Elaine Thompson. Just there, she falls

:56:38. > :56:42.back. She seemed to lose a stride. It is whether when she was extending

:56:43. > :56:48.one bit and one bit went shorter. But whatever happened, it completely

:56:49. > :56:53.confused us all. Let's see if there is any specific. She gets out well.

:56:54. > :57:02.You don't expect her to fly out of the block. Just something gives to

:57:03. > :57:07.Elaine and stops her. Ta Lou is driving hard. Bowie is running hard

:57:08. > :57:17.to the line. Knowing she has that opportunity. The camera goes to Ta

:57:18. > :57:25.Lou, she thinks she has got it. But by 100th of a second. How close that

:57:26. > :57:29.is. But the gold goes to the United States. Ta Lou almost celebrating

:57:30. > :57:39.and not dipping for the line. That cost her. Silver for Ta Lou, which

:57:40. > :57:49.she still celebrated. A great bronze for Schippers.

:57:50. > :57:59.STUDIO: Tori turning silver into gold in another dramatic 100-metre

:58:00. > :58:03.final. Two nights running, Michael Johnson, a Jamaican has been

:58:04. > :58:07.overturned by an athlete by the United States. That was a fantastic

:58:08. > :58:13.race to watch. Beside the fact of who is winning the races and the

:58:14. > :58:19.personalities and all of that, this is fantastic to see. This is what

:58:20. > :58:22.people should want to see with athletics, competition, there is

:58:23. > :58:28.nothing better and nothing gets people on their feet like a race and

:58:29. > :58:35.a finish like this where you don't know who is going to win. Tori Bowie

:58:36. > :58:40.a great race. Kalou, we said she would be in it. She is going to

:58:41. > :58:45.regret she didn't have it a bit of a better lean and an ability to get

:58:46. > :58:52.across that line before Bowie. But fantastic race. I think that Elaine

:58:53. > :58:57.Thomson, she held her drive phase a long time. And then when she

:58:58. > :59:01.realised that, she had to come out of it quick, as opposed to being

:59:02. > :59:08.patient and when you bring your head up, it throws all of that forward

:59:09. > :59:11.momentum back and we saw her stop making momentum and making a gain on

:59:12. > :59:14.the field and going back. I think she will be able to see that as she

:59:15. > :59:18.said, just not sure what happened. But she will look at the race and

:59:19. > :59:23.will be able to see what happened when she reviews it and will know

:59:24. > :59:29.that was a mistake. We will look back and see if there is that

:59:30. > :59:37.defining moment. There did seem to be a recognition almost in her face

:59:38. > :59:40.that happened. But it is the heptathlon medal ceremony. Jessica

:59:41. > :59:45.Ennis-Hill has been around this and Denise. Many times. Two days of

:59:46. > :59:51.hard, hard graft and work and it is great they get their medals tonight.

:59:52. > :00:00.Steve Cram? Yes there is nobody happier that Anouk vetter, a new

:00:01. > :00:07.national record for the Netherlands. A gutsy 800 at the end. She didn't

:00:08. > :00:11.get a personal best in that. She was passed by Carolin Schafer. What a

:00:12. > :00:17.developing athlete she is. What a year she has had. Not as many points

:00:18. > :00:25.as she scored before. But solid all the way through. A good 800 metres

:00:26. > :00:39.to finish. A good javelin. Never really challenging the Olympic

:00:40. > :00:44.champion. Nowhere near 7000 points this year pitch she didn't need to

:00:45. > :00:59.be. Belgium's first ever world title. Nafi Thiam. 6784 points. What

:01:00. > :01:05.a talent she is. Her high jump, 1.95, not as high as she achieved in

:01:06. > :01:11.Rio last year, but didn't need to. She was able to stroll the 800

:01:12. > :01:12.little bit. For the first time in the World Championships, the

:01:13. > :02:11.national anthem of Belgium. You get the feeling we're going to

:02:12. > :02:15.hear that jaunty little tune a few times over the next few years

:02:16. > :02:20.because she is still developing, still improving. She didn't need to

:02:21. > :02:24.be at her absolute best that these World Championships. A word again

:02:25. > :02:32.about Katarina Johnson-Thompson, surely her time will come one day.

:02:33. > :02:39.There was a medal there. 6636 was a great performance from there to in

:02:40. > :02:42.bronze but it was within reach for Johnson-Thompson. Nafi Thiam adding

:02:43. > :02:48.to her Olympic gold by becoming world champion.

:02:49. > :02:54.(STUDIO) thank you, Steve. Jessica Ennis-Hill is with me. We always say

:02:55. > :03:01.it when we sit up here and watch the last event, there is real

:03:02. > :03:04.camaraderie, this sisterhood in the heptathlon where you guys have to be

:03:05. > :03:10.fierce rivals for two days, but we know what you've been through. It is

:03:11. > :03:14.a unique experience and that's something I miss. You come together

:03:15. > :03:18.and celebrate what you've achieved over the two days. There's genuine

:03:19. > :03:24.respect for each other. To see those three girls on the podium, how hard

:03:25. > :03:27.they've worked this year, particularly Thiam, Olympic champion

:03:28. > :03:35.last year and coming back and backing it up this year and becoming

:03:36. > :03:37.world champion isn't easy. We hope Rodriguez and Johnson-Thompson

:03:38. > :03:46.pushing her, how much can she dominate? Have they got an

:03:47. > :03:52.incentive? I think they will push and continue to improve. I don't see

:03:53. > :03:58.anyone beating her at the moment, it she's got so much more to come and

:03:59. > :04:01.she's so young. I see her dominating for a few years. Katarina

:04:02. > :04:04.Johnson-Thompson spoke to fill afterwards and she was quite

:04:05. > :04:09.philosophical and quite pleased with the fact she had managed to in her

:04:10. > :04:13.head put to bed the disappointment of the high jump and get on with it.

:04:14. > :04:20.What advice would you give her? What does she need to do? Her interview

:04:21. > :04:24.was great and she was taking the positives. She's determined athlete.

:04:25. > :04:30.She will go away and work hard and she will hopefully come stronger. I

:04:31. > :04:34.would say, take what you've taken from these championships, like every

:04:35. > :04:39.Championships, to learn from it and to continue working in France, which

:04:40. > :04:44.is a new experience for her. It can take one or two years to make the

:04:45. > :04:49.change. She's got to trust in what she's doing and come back and

:04:50. > :04:53.believe she can perform and get on the podium. You've watched her from

:04:54. > :04:59.a very different perspective. Have you seen a growth and an increasing

:05:00. > :05:03.maturity from where you've watched here? It's a very different

:05:04. > :05:06.viewpoint. I was competing alongside her and I didn't see much detail

:05:07. > :05:15.like you do when you're sitting here. I definitely see a difference

:05:16. > :05:20.in her. She's disappointed, but you can see she's taking the positives.

:05:21. > :05:24.She's not being defeatist or thought, this is it, I've not jumped

:05:25. > :05:32.the 905I'm used to jumping, I'm going to call it a day. She's

:05:33. > :05:42.carried on fighting. Do you see the difference, Michael? Not so much.

:05:43. > :05:49.Not as much as I would like to see. I'd like to see a bit more. Let's go

:05:50. > :05:55.back to the 100 metres. We can have some analysis to look in particular

:05:56. > :06:02.at Elaine Thompson. I don't know if we should be completely shocked. She

:06:03. > :06:07.put down a 10.71 this year so she was the favourite. Tori Bowie and Ta

:06:08. > :06:15.Lou are obviously great competitors and will challenge. I think she held

:06:16. > :06:19.the drive phase to long. Each athlete is driving out of the

:06:20. > :06:24.blocks. You will notice that Tori Bowie is starting to come up, but

:06:25. > :06:33.Elaine Thompson is still down. She realises she's held it to long. She

:06:34. > :06:37.jerked her head up and all the momentum goes backwards. Now she's

:06:38. > :06:43.trying to catch up and the pressure is on. Like we saw with Usain Bolt

:06:44. > :06:47.last night, now you're under pressure and that nice, relaxed,

:06:48. > :06:53.easy form we typically see she's struggling to get back into it.

:06:54. > :06:59.Against this field and with the sort of gap that Ta Lou and Chloe already

:07:00. > :07:04.had, it was impossible to catch up. How pleased I you've Tori Bowie?

:07:05. > :07:09.She's been working very hard, she was close last year and she's a

:07:10. > :07:14.fantastic athlete over 100 and 200 and this was her time. She too good

:07:15. > :07:19.vantage of the opportunity and ran a season 's best when it counted.

:07:20. > :07:24.That's the difference between Bowie and Thompson. Elaine not even close

:07:25. > :07:29.to her season 's best and Tori Bowie running a season 's best. Let's see

:07:30. > :07:34.what that has done to the medal table. I think you'll be quite

:07:35. > :07:37.pleased, I know you're not parochial, but it's looking good for

:07:38. > :07:48.the United States of America already.

:07:49. > :07:56.Tonight was a bit as appointing for Great Britain in terms of potential

:07:57. > :08:01.medal targets. -- a bit disappointing. You would have had

:08:02. > :08:10.hopes for Holly Bradshaw, Thomson Johnson -- Johnson-Thompson. I think

:08:11. > :08:15.this could have been a really great night and unfortunate to see how

:08:16. > :08:21.Holly performed in the final. She could have got a bronze medal. Kat

:08:22. > :08:26.could have got a bronze medal. But it's Championships. With athletics,

:08:27. > :08:30.it's the process. You train for however long, all those hours and

:08:31. > :08:33.those months, and it's these one-off moments we have and if it doesn't

:08:34. > :08:38.come together, it doesn't come together and it's not happened for

:08:39. > :08:43.us. We've loved having you here and seeing you tonight to pick up your

:08:44. > :08:51.medal from day goo. What are you up to in the next month? I'm going to

:08:52. > :08:57.kick back and relax! You're welcome back on the sofa any time you like.

:08:58. > :09:00.We've loved having Jess here. It's been great having you here. Think of

:09:01. > :09:08.us while you're kicking back! You'll be watching! I'll be watching. Thank

:09:09. > :09:19.you. I think we should head outside and find out what's being discussed.

:09:20. > :09:24.Lots to discuss and I want to thank Jess for being part of the coverage

:09:25. > :09:29.and giving me tips for having children. Chaos was the word she

:09:30. > :09:34.gave me so thanks for that. Interesting day. Denise and Colin

:09:35. > :09:39.with me. Up and down day for the British athletes, unexpected results

:09:40. > :09:46.and lost to discuss. We have our troop of supporters watching us on

:09:47. > :09:50.the way out from the stadium. Either they really like ask or they just

:09:51. > :09:54.don't want to go to work tomorrow. Either way it's lovely to have them.

:09:55. > :09:59.Let's talk about British athletes and a little bit of disappointment.

:10:00. > :10:05.We've seen Nafi Thiam take a world title, truly deserved, but Katarina

:10:06. > :10:10.Johnson-Thompson should have been on one of our boards. She ended up in

:10:11. > :10:19.fifth. Where would you like to start with today? The long jump for me was

:10:20. > :10:24.a solid job. We know she can jump much further than she produced

:10:25. > :10:31.today. But it was tired legs. That issue of two fouls from the last

:10:32. > :10:36.World Championships. It was about getting a safe one in. You see her

:10:37. > :10:43.reaction. Please, please, please let it be valid and it was. Nice to see

:10:44. > :10:46.her trying to push that positivity. Nice to see the fighting spirit

:10:47. > :10:54.because that's what she needed to display after such a disappointing

:10:55. > :11:01.first. She said afterwards that she was really happy to throw over 40

:11:02. > :11:05.metres in the javelin. She said she was really trying to change her

:11:06. > :11:09.attitude. It's difficult for her after injuries and disappointments

:11:10. > :11:14.at major events. It's the first time I saw her smile so much Gerry

:11:15. > :11:18.McGarvey addition which was nice to see. Perhaps that's a starting

:11:19. > :11:21.point. It could be a breakthrough in the way she feels about her

:11:22. > :11:27.performance. She needs to get her mind right. It's seven events and

:11:28. > :11:31.not one event and she is gelling them better. I'm hoping she's

:11:32. > :11:37.finishing it with the right frame of mind. It may not be a medal, but if

:11:38. > :11:40.the mind is coming together, it's a good start. It's the best starting

:11:41. > :11:47.place. It doesn't matter what talent you have, you have to get physical

:11:48. > :11:52.and mental in harmony. She's improving. Her coach said to her, I

:11:53. > :11:56.want you to be free through the heptathlon. I think she has

:11:57. > :12:00.displayed that despite the disappointment. She got involved

:12:01. > :12:06.with the girls, this is always the lovely part of the heptathlon. She's

:12:07. > :12:11.got a little rice smile. I know inside she'll be bitterly

:12:12. > :12:14.disappointed. -- wry smile. She should be disappointed because we

:12:15. > :12:19.want her to move on. It's not always easy to go to a new country, new

:12:20. > :12:23.coaching, she's changed so much. For her to compete the way she did and

:12:24. > :12:29.end up with a bit of a smile is a solid start. We were hoping she

:12:30. > :12:34.might deliver for many a year. It doesn't just come like that and

:12:35. > :12:38.hopefully she will come good in the end. Somebody full of consistency,

:12:39. > :12:45.delivering time after time, let's talk about Nafi Thiam. So young, so

:12:46. > :12:50.astute and so good. So good and so confident. I always wondered how she

:12:51. > :12:55.would cope with the pressure and the expectation. She is now the poster

:12:56. > :12:59.girl of Belgium. This was probably not a vintage hurdles race for her,

:13:00. > :13:06.but it was solid and that was all she needed to do in the first event.

:13:07. > :13:11.High jump, always guaranteed success for her because she has competed in

:13:12. > :13:19.single in this event. She delivered. 1.95. As we were watching the high

:13:20. > :13:23.jump, the commentators were talking about her taking on the heights.

:13:24. > :13:29.Maybe that might affect her physically. If you are on a positive

:13:30. > :13:35.role, it takes the momentum through for the other offence. Absolutely,

:13:36. > :13:39.she displayed another good shot put. There are no weaknesses. That's what

:13:40. > :13:46.you want from the champion. A Habitat light that can aways keep it

:13:47. > :13:53.together. -- a heptathlete. Her 200 and hurdles speeds are coming on.

:13:54. > :14:02.You do forget how young she is. She's doing all right. More than all

:14:03. > :14:07.right. Bags of talent. What about the progress in just two years.

:14:08. > :14:12.2015, 11 thin the World Championships. Olympic gold and

:14:13. > :14:18.world gold in two years. We'd all like that but we haven't got that

:14:19. > :14:24.talent. The three of us, I haven't got that talent! She's already hit

:14:25. > :14:29.7000 points. She could really dominate for a long time.

:14:30. > :14:37.People forget she was the European bronze-medallist and we have been

:14:38. > :14:41.watching her for a while. It is not having those weaknesses. A big

:14:42. > :14:45.50-metre throw. That kind of talent and she is just starting. She is

:14:46. > :14:54.still learning. We have got many years of watching that Nafi Thiam.

:14:55. > :15:00.This was the last event, 800 metres. She had already done it. She run an

:15:01. > :15:05.eight the way I would. She takes her time. It must be a pleasure to be

:15:06. > :15:12.running the 800 thinking, I won't be that far behind and the title is

:15:13. > :15:17.mine. Well, Catharina Johnson Thompson did everything she could to

:15:18. > :15:24.stay in contention. Fifth wasn't too bad. The disappointment was easy to

:15:25. > :15:31.see. But Nafi Thiam was the world champion. Congratulate wakeses to

:15:32. > :15:40.her - congratulations to her. And Denise can put a second face on our

:15:41. > :15:46.pretty thin gold medal board. It got these guys going, Denise doesn't

:15:47. > :15:50.have to do much to get them going. Yesterday she showed us more than we

:15:51. > :15:59.all thought. And they have come back. And pole vault and again

:16:00. > :16:04.someone who we hoped might doing something special in Holly Bradshaw.

:16:05. > :16:13.You come into the wormed Championships and she -- into the

:16:14. > :16:19.World Championships and she had been making some strides. This was a

:16:20. > :16:23.crucial final jump and we touched on the physicality of it. In the past

:16:24. > :16:28.she has failed at the crucial moment. Here she did a good

:16:29. > :16:32.clearance and I can see her thinking, why didn't I do that the

:16:33. > :16:42.jump before? It was such a clean take. The jumps were going to count

:16:43. > :16:46.her out. We will see. It was 4.75 she went for. That was telling in

:16:47. > :16:51.the end. It is a height she should be able to do in her sleep. She is

:16:52. > :16:59.more than capable of jumping this height and she was so close. Those

:17:00. > :17:03.early failures at 4.65 cost her a medal and it is the decisions you

:17:04. > :17:06.make in split moments that can take you out of the medals. But she will

:17:07. > :17:13.learn from this. There is more to come from her. As it happened, Holly

:17:14. > :17:21.was inconsolable, because it was that clearance at 4.65. On count

:17:22. > :17:25.back, had she cleared it earlier she would have got bronze. This was her

:17:26. > :17:30.reaction straight after knowing the result. But we were watching when

:17:31. > :17:37.she was doing the jumps, her coach and they have a certain language. He

:17:38. > :17:43.was making hand signals. The time was all counting down. We were

:17:44. > :17:50.thinking, just jump. But they have their routine. Us as watchers can

:17:51. > :17:54.get flustered with that. Ten seconds is a long time and we were watching

:17:55. > :17:59.the clock and she was checking to make sure it was the right time to

:18:00. > :18:04.move. In the end she would have made the call. She is the athlete. She is

:18:05. > :18:09.going to make that call. I see a lot of her training in Cardiff. She

:18:10. > :18:13.trains in the same gym I train in. She has improved so much physically

:18:14. > :18:19.this year and her attitude has been spot on. Personally I'm a bit

:18:20. > :18:24.disappointed. But it does set her up well for being a bit more hungry and

:18:25. > :18:33.not making those mistakes again. So it is not the end for this year.

:18:34. > :18:40.Still plenty to come. Catriona Stefanidi, is the Olympic champion

:18:41. > :18:45.and showed everybody why. She has been in formidable form. Unbeaten in

:18:46. > :18:53.the Diamond League. Today, she rose to the occasion again. Jumping 4.91.

:18:54. > :18:57.A huge jump. With all the pressure. All the expectation. It was nice to

:18:58. > :19:02.see it. I was around some of the Greeks, they were going ballistic

:19:03. > :19:06.when they saw her going over. It is great to see good athletics, when

:19:07. > :19:11.sports people are doing well. She is at the top of her game and

:19:12. > :19:14.delivering. This is why I love athletics, because you know you

:19:15. > :19:19.cannot predict which country is going to win, you have got a whole

:19:20. > :19:26.host of different countries getting and vying for medals. It is an

:19:27. > :19:33.international event. Congratulations to Catriona Stefanidi. Colin, it is

:19:34. > :19:38.your moment. He is going to try and do what Denise did. Stefanidi on the

:19:39. > :19:47.gold medal podium if you wouldn't mind! There is more! We like that.

:19:48. > :19:52.I'm not the one to call it. But I think Colin won that one. We have

:19:53. > :19:59.got three gold-medallist on our podium. Before we move on, shall we

:20:00. > :20:04.hear from Holly Bradshaw. Oh, we haven't got her any more. She has

:20:05. > :20:10.gone. But she was very disappointed. There was so much going on today.

:20:11. > :20:14.And there was one competition that is hotting up, the men's 400 metres

:20:15. > :20:44.is one to watch. Kerwin mustn't be fazed by Kerley.

:20:45. > :20:53.Kerley beginning to make his move. Gardiner putting pressure on Allen.

:20:54. > :20:58.Kerley and gardener. Look at the style as he fires down the home

:20:59. > :21:03.straight. Allen coming through. Only two to go through automatically. The

:21:04. > :21:08.Americans being run out of it. Gardiner and Allen and Kerley will

:21:09. > :21:21.have to hope for the top. He has gone hard in the semi-final.

:21:22. > :21:33.LaShawn merit outside. Who redrew the heats have given us a nice one.

:21:34. > :21:41.There is challengers. Van Niekirk has started well. Gordon in the red

:21:42. > :21:51.has gone quickly through 200. Smith going well on the the inside. Hudson

:21:52. > :21:58.Smith is right in the mix. He is past van Niekirk. Can he keep that

:21:59. > :22:13.going. Haroun finishing quickly. Van Niekirk wins. Hudson just loses out

:22:14. > :22:20.to Haroun. He has the speed and great 200 metres speed. Robinson

:22:21. > :22:32.started quickly, the USA athlete in lane 7. A big gap appearing. It may

:22:33. > :22:45.well be the action is in the outside lane. Roberts will try and react.

:22:46. > :22:49.Makwala continues to go away. And that lovely action of his holding it

:22:50. > :23:06.together. Makwala has time to look around. 44.30. Roberts third. 43.89,

:23:07. > :23:11.a new national record. . Allen with a personal best. Maybe those four

:23:12. > :23:17.with Gardiner, I don't know. I won't say. Van Niekirk is the favourite.

:23:18. > :23:24.But it will be a brilliant race. Everybody here is looking forward to

:23:25. > :23:29.the 400 metres final on Tuesday. It will be a hot ticket, of course van

:23:30. > :23:36.Niekirk is the man to beat, but he won't have it all his own way? No,

:23:37. > :23:41.remember, he doesn't have a day off. He has the 200 metres, but Makwala

:23:42. > :23:49.is doing the 200. So they're battling for the double. Who will

:23:50. > :23:56.win. Will bit from the Bahamas? Gutting for Matt Hudson Smith, who,

:23:57. > :24:06.one place oud, out, or he would have been in the final. Before you joined

:24:07. > :24:10.us, we talked of women's 100 metres and another shock, another Jamaican

:24:11. > :24:14.we were expecting to win. Still trying to work out what happened.

:24:15. > :24:21.She was the favourite and I have never seen her run like this. We

:24:22. > :24:25.have to question is something wrong. But a great victory from Ta Lou.

:24:26. > :24:32.Look at that reaction. But this was the winner in the end. What... It

:24:33. > :24:36.was a perfect dip from Tori Bowie. If there was an great timing of a

:24:37. > :24:41.dip that was it. She will have to recover from that to run the 200.

:24:42. > :24:47.Sometimes when you pitch like that, you can knock yourself out. There is

:24:48. > :24:53.a bit of strachs on the should -- scratches on the shoulder as well.

:24:54. > :24:57.But she doesn't care. Well done on a wonderful performance. A gold medal.

:24:58. > :25:04.What is it like to be world champion? Thank you so much. I mean

:25:05. > :25:09.it is a wonderful feeling like... I'm so happy and... You know I feel

:25:10. > :25:15.like the hard work has finally paid off. I couldn't be more happy. The

:25:16. > :25:21.night is perfect. It is like it is still trying to sink in, seep in

:25:22. > :25:26.maybe? Yes, I'm sure once I leave the track I will go, am I really the

:25:27. > :25:32.world champion. It hasn't sunk in. But I'm so grateful and thankful and

:25:33. > :25:40.tonight is one of best nights of my life. What a dip as well! What a

:25:41. > :25:46.night, most of things I have won have been with with a dip. So now

:25:47. > :25:52.the dip's the night. Are you, you are in one piece. You have had some

:25:53. > :25:57.treatment and you're OK. I haven't had treatment, I'm a bit sore, but

:25:58. > :26:01.nothing major, just bruises. We want you to celebrate pain-free. That

:26:02. > :26:09.won't happen, but I will be fine tomorrow. Enjoy it. Thank you. She

:26:10. > :26:13.went from exhausted to disbelief to hysterical to feeling the pain,

:26:14. > :26:17.Denise, but she is holding the stars and stripes proudly. It was a

:26:18. > :26:23.surprise win, but you have got to deliver on the day. It was a

:26:24. > :26:28.surprise. It was close. But Bowie was the bridesmaid last year at the

:26:29. > :26:42.Olympics, golden girl tonight. Well done to her. Next an event close to

:26:43. > :26:52.Colin's heart, the 110 hurdles. Harris got left. Darien leading. And

:26:53. > :27:04.Shubenkov coming back into it. Darien holds on to second behind the

:27:05. > :27:09.Olympic champion. Left a bit and Allen going through. Pozzi hits the

:27:10. > :27:18.front. Ove it is so close. He has been run out of it I think of

:27:19. > :27:22.automatic qualifying and only 13.28. Four to the line just about together

:27:23. > :27:33.and Pozzi was leading the way with a barrier to go. But he may have been

:27:34. > :27:38.edged out of that. A good start by Baji. He is so pure over the

:27:39. > :27:48.barriers. Baji, in the middle, running well. And it is Baji taking

:27:49. > :27:57.it. A look across. Not as impressive from Merritt as it was in the first

:27:58. > :28:03.round. Tomorrow's final, McLeod will start as favourite. Shubenkov is

:28:04. > :28:14.going through as one of the fastest losers.

:28:15. > :28:21.Colin, before the Championships, the Jamaicans would have had probably

:28:22. > :28:27.lists of guaranteed gold-medallist, all sprinters, two haven't

:28:28. > :28:36.delivered. Omagh McLeod has more pressure on him now? Yes he is the

:28:37. > :28:41.No 1 sprinter. So he is looking better technically and much more Sol

:28:42. > :28:45.Sid and consistent. -- solid and consistent. So much disappointment

:28:46. > :28:49.for Andrew Pozzi, who in his semi-final was that close from

:28:50. > :28:55.getting his place and leading before he clipped a hurdle. He was just

:28:56. > :29:00.that, it was just that ninth hurdle. He hit it with his lead and trail

:29:01. > :29:07.leg and he probably lost 400th of a second and he is out of final. And

:29:08. > :29:12.unfortunately for Andrew, another British disappointment. But so much

:29:13. > :29:17.to look forward to on day four. They're also hanging out. Have you

:29:18. > :29:23.all had a good day? CHEERING AND APPLAUSE. If they say so ewe have to

:29:24. > :29:29.take it as read. Join us again tomorrow.
