:00:58. > :01:03.In a few hours, Scotland's Laura Muir will run three and three

:01:04. > :01:09.quarters laps of this track in a bid to become the first British woman

:01:10. > :01:12.ever to win the 1500 metres in a World Championships.

:01:13. > :01:18.COMMENTATOR: Laura Muir were doing what she does best. People ask me

:01:19. > :01:23.what it's like to be a distance runner. For me, the powerful balance

:01:24. > :01:28.between the physical and mental process of what running is all about

:01:29. > :01:36.is best summed up by these words. With every step you tread, and every

:01:37. > :01:43.breath you take, determination makes you run. Never stop. Got to win. Got

:01:44. > :01:50.to run until you drop. Keep the pace, hold the race. I've got to

:01:51. > :01:57.keep running the course. I've got to keep running, and win at all cost.

:01:58. > :02:03.I've got to keep going. Be strong. Must be so determined and push

:02:04. > :02:16.myself off. Run on and on. Run on and on. We all love a bit of iron

:02:17. > :02:21.maiden. # I've got to keep running

:02:22. > :02:34.# And win at all cost # I've got to keep going

:02:35. > :02:37.# So determined to push myself on. Paula is hiding in home work corner

:02:38. > :02:43.tonight, not because we have just found out what is on her playlist.

:02:44. > :02:48.Michael was very surprised to hear a bit of iron maiden there. We thought

:02:49. > :02:55.perhaps she propelled herself to the top with a bit of Police, but no!

:02:56. > :03:01.Steve Backley and Denise are in the house tonight to kick things off on

:03:02. > :03:05.day four. We are already here. It feels as though we've packed in a

:03:06. > :03:11.lot of athletics into the four days. It's really given us a lot to talk

:03:12. > :03:15.about, a lot to think about, some great performance. What has been

:03:16. > :03:22.your highlight so far? The crowd has been fantastic. It has changed the

:03:23. > :03:28.World Championships. I have been across the field events, and last

:03:29. > :03:33.night's controversial victory for Tom Walshe of New Zealand. One of

:03:34. > :03:38.the most popular guys on the circuit, and for him to take gold

:03:39. > :03:45.was fantastic. We will look back on that, because as you say, very

:03:46. > :03:48.controversial. Denise? I think it is because it is a World Championships,

:03:49. > :03:54.it's how you are going to conduct it. These championships have been so

:03:55. > :04:01.well organised. There's been a lot to fit in. But the ticket sales, the

:04:02. > :04:06.crowds, we've seen a lot of young children here. It's been a real

:04:07. > :04:11.family occasion, and very much athlete centred. So many people who

:04:12. > :04:14.couldn't get tickets for the Olympics five years ago got

:04:15. > :04:19.themselves here to experience this incredible stadium. It is not a

:04:20. > :04:25.white elephant. That is the amazing thing. The regeneration that was

:04:26. > :04:43.promised of this area has happened. When you see the apartments,

:04:44. > :04:46.the shopping centres, everything is busy and people are having a great

:04:47. > :04:49.time. The first session in Moscow four years ago had 1500 people in

:04:50. > :04:52.the crowd. There were 60,000 here. The timetable has been fantastic.

:04:53. > :04:56.Kicking off with Mo Farah on the Friday night was a great idea. Yes,

:04:57. > :05:01.it's how you get good audiences, how we get people through the door, and

:05:02. > :05:04.that makes it happens. There is no dull night, there is no poor ticket,

:05:05. > :05:14.as you will see tonight. Here's what's coming up. We will see

:05:15. > :05:18.Britain's Laura Muir bid for a medal in the women's 1500 metres, in a

:05:19. > :05:24.contest the papers have called the race of the championships. Reigning

:05:25. > :05:32.Olympic 800 metre champion Caster Semenya is among a host of

:05:33. > :05:39.contenders. Britain's Olympic bronze medallist, Sophie Hitchon, will look

:05:40. > :05:44.to add a medal in the hammer final. Wayde van Niekerk is attempting to

:05:45. > :05:50.do the 200-400 double here in London. He is in the heats tonight.

:05:51. > :05:56.Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake also goes in those 200 metre heats. He has run

:05:57. > :06:01.inside the world's Tom ten this year. In the women's 400 metre

:06:02. > :06:10.hurdles heats, the Americans are the ones to watch. Amy Doyle will also

:06:11. > :06:16.be in hurdles action. The British team captain is a former European

:06:17. > :06:20.champions. Reigning Olympic champion Caterine Ibarguen is going for a

:06:21. > :06:26.third consecutive gold in the women's triple jump. America's

:06:27. > :06:32.Alison Phoenix also knows a bit about World Championship medals. The

:06:33. > :06:37.ninth time world champion races in the semifinals tonight. Aries

:06:38. > :06:44.Merritt is bidding for more glory in the hurdles, having won gold in this

:06:45. > :06:50.very stadium in 2012. Omar McLeod is the man to beat. The Jamaican 12016

:06:51. > :06:59.Rio gold, and has been the standout performer this year.

:07:00. > :07:04.So the action kicks off on the track with the men's 200 metres heats.

:07:05. > :07:56.Wayde van Niekerk is back on the track again. That is at 6:30pm.

:07:57. > :08:06.The evening concludes with a red-hot 1500 metre final. That is being

:08:07. > :08:11.billed as one of the finals, if not the final of the championship. So

:08:12. > :08:15.loaded with incredible talent. The crowd building up nicely. It is

:08:16. > :08:21.Monday evening. It is incredible to get people out here on a Monday

:08:22. > :08:29.evening, jigging! There are the athletes getting involved. It really

:08:30. > :08:34.is fantastic. Amazing to do that just before your medal ceremony.

:08:35. > :08:39.That's what it's all about. It's fun, it's entertainment, and it's

:08:40. > :08:44.about beer as well, clearly! It extends beyond the arena, right out

:08:45. > :08:50.into the park, the Westfield shopping centre. There's athletics

:08:51. > :08:57.fans everywhere. It's fantastic, everything we wanted. And the hotel

:08:58. > :09:06.is just a stone's throw from here. A stone's throw for Steve, anyway! We

:09:07. > :09:09.go back after in the evening, and everybody is talking about the

:09:10. > :09:14.performances. Some people have years of knowledge, some people are new to

:09:15. > :09:19.it. But you want that blend of knowledge. Yes, and it really helps

:09:20. > :09:25.performances. If you walk into an empty stadium for qualifying, it

:09:26. > :09:30.doesn't feel great. Coming here with 60,000 people in any session it

:09:31. > :09:34.feels like it's completely different. Katarina Stefanidi, the

:09:35. > :09:40.Olympic champion of Greece, won the World Championships last night. She

:09:41. > :09:47.was absolutely fantastic. She is one of those polled halters her run up,

:09:48. > :09:55.she has such confidence. With her placement, you really believe in

:09:56. > :10:01.her. The keyword is consistency. Stefanidi is really consistent. Her

:10:02. > :10:07.worst is still really very good. That breeds a level of consistency,

:10:08. > :10:12.confidence and stability. She can deliver under pressure. She did last

:10:13. > :10:16.night. She gets it right when it matters. It is hard to be a

:10:17. > :10:22.favourite, but still come through and win. She continues to be

:10:23. > :10:28.dominant. She hasn't gone over five metres yet. She is seventh on the

:10:29. > :10:37.world list. Sandi Morris, who jumped last night, is higher than her. She

:10:38. > :10:45.went for 5.02 last night, and Jelena Isinbayeva has the world record. I

:10:46. > :10:50.think the point is, consistency. The takeaway for any aspiring jumper,

:10:51. > :10:56.Thrower, anyone, being consistent really sets you up for handling that

:10:57. > :11:01.pressure well. It has been a rich pot of talent coming out of Greece

:11:02. > :11:05.as well. Is it one of those things where you get a champion and people

:11:06. > :11:11.start following an event, and it attracts more. Absolutely right. We

:11:12. > :11:18.have seen it in different events. The most obvious one is the middle

:11:19. > :11:23.distance era in the 80s in Britain. And the javelin in Germany now. The

:11:24. > :11:27.guys who are top three in the world are all German. You aspire to be the

:11:28. > :11:35.best in the world in your country, and you go through the ranks. There

:11:36. > :11:40.she is, just about to come onto the rostrum. Let's have a look at Holly

:11:41. > :11:46.Bradshaw from Great Britain, who came here with great confidence from

:11:47. > :11:51.her British record last year. What happened last night that meant she

:11:52. > :11:58.didn't get the podium? She is a great performer. I think the wind

:11:59. > :12:03.was an issue. They had a strategy. Getting it right at Champs is a

:12:04. > :12:07.precarious business. That was a third time clearance. Under

:12:08. > :12:14.pressure, she really responded well and showed us what a brilliant

:12:15. > :12:18.pressure jumper she is. 4.65 is the same height that went on to get a

:12:19. > :12:24.bronze medal. If she had cleared that first time, she would have got

:12:25. > :12:34.a medal. That is so close. That's why she was so distraught. Under

:12:35. > :12:38.pressure here, waiting for the wind. I think she got a bit distracted.

:12:39. > :12:42.She was over that and came down on it. If she had cleared that 4.65

:12:43. > :12:45.sooner, what that would have done to her as a performer, you cannot

:12:46. > :12:54.underestimate the confidence that would have given her going forward.

:12:55. > :12:58.Agreed. She has experience. She has been in major championships before.

:12:59. > :13:03.I wanted her to do it and I know she wanted it more than anything in the

:13:04. > :13:09.world last night, but it wasn't to be. More painful because it was so

:13:10. > :13:15.close. It would have been lovely to see her in this medal ceremony, but

:13:16. > :13:20.sport is brutal. It is, but you have to keep the faith, trust in your

:13:21. > :13:27.team and your ability, and let that hope and the reason why you got into

:13:28. > :13:34.athletics still shine. Not give up. Hopefully it spurs her on to bigger

:13:35. > :13:39.and better things. There is the head of European athletics. I hope it

:13:40. > :13:47.really inspires her. If she goes away from this knowing she can do

:13:48. > :13:53.it... She has jumped 4.81 this year. Two British records. It's been a

:13:54. > :13:56.good summer for Holly Bradshaw. It's been great for Stefanidi. Olympic

:13:57. > :14:54.and now World Championship. Steve, does she have the potential

:14:55. > :15:03.to dominate in the way Isinbayeva did? In terms of medal haul,

:15:04. > :15:08.absolutely. She has learned the knack. Sandi Morris is a better

:15:09. > :15:12.jumper in terms of lifetime bests and it's a good lesson to everyone,

:15:13. > :15:19.get it right when it matters. We saw that last year in Brazil.

:15:20. > :15:25.Absolutely. Maybe she can go on to jump five metres but well she is

:15:26. > :15:31.winning global world titles, she's doing OK. Congratulations to her. We

:15:32. > :15:37.need to talk about the men's shot put competition last night. It

:15:38. > :15:44.looked like it was the that love the Americans. Tom Walsh is one of the

:15:45. > :15:51.most popular guys on the circuit so before we get into the controversy

:15:52. > :15:56.we should talk about him first. Yes, he was in a daze, I don't think he

:15:57. > :16:01.could believe it. He's a really nice guy, down-to-earth with a big smile

:16:02. > :16:07.on his face as you can imagine. It wasn't expecting to win and that

:16:08. > :16:10.creates a nice story. Let's look at his throat here. He took the lead,

:16:11. > :16:16.this wasn't the eventual winning throw. It took the lead at the

:16:17. > :16:24.halfway stage so he was in contention right the way through the

:16:25. > :16:30.competition. Not the biggest man, still a big man. He could still make

:16:31. > :16:44.it onto the front row for the all Blacks! He probably could! But he

:16:45. > :16:48.was taking on Joe Kovacs, the reigning world champion. But there

:16:49. > :16:59.was controversy and we will have a look in a moment at those throws,

:17:00. > :17:03.but first let's look at the medal ceremony and the New Zealand anthem.

:17:04. > :17:10.This very international World Championships now, 11 golds from ten

:17:11. > :17:16.nations which is incredible. It shows the depth of athletics going

:17:17. > :17:19.round the world. It obviously varies from continent to continent and

:17:20. > :17:27.where they emphasise the events but it is great. I remember having the

:17:28. > :17:32.debate with Sebastien Coe in Zurich off air, which is the most global

:17:33. > :17:38.sport, football or athletics, and he was arguing the case for athletics.

:17:39. > :17:44.When you see the spread of medals it is very accessible sport. In the

:17:45. > :17:49.men's long jump there were five continents represented in 12

:17:50. > :17:53.athletes. It's not only 205 countries competing here but the

:17:54. > :18:01.finals are going across the board and this is a good example again.

:18:02. > :18:12.American dominance in the past. Joe Kovacs, the previous champion. And

:18:13. > :18:21.here he is. What a great applause for him. And again, that's why we

:18:22. > :18:22.love coming to London. Because the crowd and spectators are so

:18:23. > :18:39.knowledgeable. It's great. Ladies and gentlemen, the national

:18:40. > :19:52.anthem of New Zealand. Very strange to hear in New Zealand

:19:53. > :19:56.anthem and not see a haka beforehand! It had its controversy

:19:57. > :20:00.and its drama, so Steve, explain what happened because we were

:20:01. > :20:12.sitting here saying we couldn't see with the naked eye. We saw the

:20:13. > :20:18.Olympic champion, Crouser. Where he extends at the beginning of the

:20:19. > :20:23.line-up, rotational throw, he's a tall man, but the red flag goes up.

:20:24. > :20:29.His left heel touches outside the circle. The official is Eagle eyed,

:20:30. > :20:35.he has clocked that. He doesn't foul at the front, which is typically

:20:36. > :20:41.where the infringement would happen. It is at the back. He's already

:20:42. > :20:47.celebrating because it is way over 22 metres. It would have possibly

:20:48. > :20:51.challenged for the gold medal. That's a big call, isn't it, because

:20:52. > :20:58.you can hardly see it. I don't remember seeing that before but it

:20:59. > :21:05.is a foul. You exit the circle made throw, it is a foul. Joe Kovacs,

:21:06. > :21:10.this is slightly different, at the front of the circle but slightly

:21:11. > :21:16.unusual. You will see him celebrating, slightly more animated.

:21:17. > :21:22.Look at the left foot. This is during the throw. He doesn't foul in

:21:23. > :21:26.the recovery, he does it during the throw, really unusual. He probably

:21:27. > :21:31.would have felt that what his reaction was priceless, he hit the

:21:32. > :21:37.roof. The best throw of the competition was for Tom Walsh. The

:21:38. > :21:45.controversy had gone on. He maybe had a covered anyway you could say,

:21:46. > :21:50.I would like to say, and victory to extend dashed she was already in the

:21:51. > :21:56.lead. That wrapped it up for the big Kiwi. There has been a few moments

:21:57. > :22:09.of controversy, some surprises and a few

:22:10. > :22:21.upsets, and Tori Bowie caused one of them. Yes, a big upset. Tori Bowie,

:22:22. > :22:26.I think it was fantastic to see her come through. The bridesmaid last

:22:27. > :22:32.year at the Olympics but delivered when it really mattered by the

:22:33. > :22:36.narrowest of margins. It was an incredible throw of the body across

:22:37. > :22:42.the line. Really just a thrilling end to that race. While we were all

:22:43. > :22:49.taking our breath mid-race, but Elaine Thompson was disappearing.

:22:50. > :22:54.Yes, as Michael alluded to, when she came out of the blocks she almost

:22:55. > :23:03.seemed to stumble and go backwards. Very disappointing to see. I think

:23:04. > :23:08.an anti-climax really. She had looked good through the heat and

:23:09. > :23:24.semis as well. A 100-metre double for the United States with Justin

:23:25. > :23:27.Gatlin the night before. And Bowie. A popular member of the American

:23:28. > :23:33.team and it is lovely to see her on the rostrum at last. She was part of

:23:34. > :23:42.the 4x100 team last year but this is really special. Ladies and

:23:43. > :24:01.gentlemen, the national anthem of the United States of America.

:24:02. > :25:15.Bowie of the USA takes her gold medal for the 100m. And it is

:25:16. > :25:24.disappointment for Jamaica because by now they would have expected one

:25:25. > :25:28.or two if they were honest. Nothing yet, it is Jamaican sprinting

:25:29. > :25:33.heading into a down period or is it too early to say? I think it is too

:25:34. > :25:39.early to say but the contest between the USA and Jamaica has been raging

:25:40. > :25:45.for years. It seems the USA are on top but again, look at the spread of

:25:46. > :25:55.medals there. It is really fantastic. Let's have a little look

:25:56. > :26:08.at the 100m from last night. You can see Bowie, but her competitor has an

:26:09. > :26:21.explosive start. Bowie starts to come through at this point but look

:26:22. > :26:29.how close it is at this line. And if she'd dipped, it may well have been

:26:30. > :26:37.her. Is racing on your own sometimes like that an advantage? It is, but

:26:38. > :26:43.if you think about Schippers, who was out of the action just focusing

:26:44. > :26:47.in her own lane, that helped to secure the bronze medal. When she is

:26:48. > :26:51.close in the action she gets tight and great bronze medal for the

:26:52. > :27:03.Netherlands there. We have touched on the point the table is really

:27:04. > :27:12.well spread. It is showing you how truly global the sport is, Steve. It

:27:13. > :27:18.is, and I'm sure that will roll on through this week. That race was

:27:19. > :27:21.fascinating, the United States with two gold medals, because the shape

:27:22. > :27:26.of the race was almost identical to the men's. I have sat on the

:27:27. > :27:30.finishing line with the commentary team obviously, and in lane seven

:27:31. > :27:40.they look behind, and then shutting down over the last five metres as

:27:41. > :27:48.Tori Bowie did there. The Americans going strong, two gold medals in the

:27:49. > :27:55.sprints, does that convert into the jumps? It didn't in the long jump,

:27:56. > :28:01.did it? No, but it gets shared around. Let's just hope for a few

:28:02. > :28:04.more British medals. Tonight obviously there are possibilities

:28:05. > :28:11.with Laura Muir and Sophie Hitchon. The action is about to start and

:28:12. > :28:18.it's the 200m, the men's 200m heats so let's get down there. Deed crown.

:28:19. > :28:29.Good evening everybody and a great evening in store and we begin with

:28:30. > :28:46.the sprinters. There is Yohan Blake. The two top ranked men in the 200m

:28:47. > :28:52.are Isaac Makwala and Usain Bolt decided not to run. Seven heats, top

:28:53. > :28:55.three and then the fastest losers through to the semifinal on

:28:56. > :29:07.Wednesday. This is how the first one lines up.

:29:08. > :29:14.The very good young talent from Japan on the outside. The conditions

:29:15. > :29:20.this evening not bad. The sun came out briefly around about five

:29:21. > :29:32.o'clock but it has cooled off a little. Rumours of a thunderstorm

:29:33. > :29:36.later on. Let's hope not. So Sani Brown of Japan, the 18-year-old who

:29:37. > :29:41.looked very good in qualifying, not so good in the semi. Blake, a

:29:42. > :29:49.silver-medallist in this event behind Usain Bolt in 2012 in this

:29:50. > :29:57.event. 9.97 this year, has gone under 20 seconds. Baloyes, it will

:29:58. > :30:03.be interesting to see if he can produce anything like his best here.

:30:04. > :30:13.Many of the athletes get qualifying times, but not his. If we don't see

:30:14. > :30:20.them regularly on the circuit, sometimes the times are not matched

:30:21. > :30:25.here, including Smith. He ran in 20.25 in Lexington in May, and not

:30:26. > :30:39.much since then to be fair. Its first three, so not too

:30:40. > :30:42.difficult for the good guys. I think Blake, also the former Jamaican now

:30:43. > :31:00.running for Switzerland. Almost a full house already. Blake

:31:01. > :31:08.gets away well, so does Wilson, but Sammy Brown starting well. Smith is

:31:09. > :31:25.trying to get on terms. Only the top three go through. It's going to be

:31:26. > :31:33.very tight. Blake, Brown, then Wilson. Just about following the

:31:34. > :31:38.form book. When you look at the 100 metres and an American one, too,

:31:39. > :31:42.Bolton not getting up there, just outside the medals, he's still

:31:43. > :31:48.running very well. He's got to be positive about this 200 metres. He

:31:49. > :31:58.needs to be positive about this 200 metres. He doesn't run many, just

:31:59. > :32:06.the Jamaican Championships. I even saw Usain Bolt's jaw drop at the

:32:07. > :32:12.first 100 metres. Look at Johann Blake's shoelace. It's an done. I

:32:13. > :32:20.don't know why he forgot to do that. The American 100 meter ran a lot

:32:21. > :32:26.slower than Blake. Tie your laces, guys! Isn't that what your coach

:32:27. > :32:32.tells you? He looks very controlled, though. Tries to just coast around

:32:33. > :32:38.that bend, then he just goes flat out down the home straight. That's

:32:39. > :32:53.what got him to that incredible time of 19.26 back in 2011. There he is,

:32:54. > :33:00.Yohan Blake. 20.3 nine. Nowhere near that fast. Sani Brown continues his

:33:01. > :33:11.education. And Alex Wilson, the other qualifier. The fastest loser

:33:12. > :33:17.spots, that may not be fast enough. I wish I looked as relaxed as Yohan

:33:18. > :33:23.Blake when I ran! Sophie Hitchon has got a job to do tonight. She is

:33:24. > :33:28.looking good. I know her coach is trying to take the pressure away.

:33:29. > :33:34.Are you confident she can do well? I am. I saw her this morning. I was

:33:35. > :33:42.out for a jog, and I bumped into her. A mile north of here, walking

:33:43. > :33:48.towards the stadium, around 10:45am. That shows how long the day was. I

:33:49. > :33:56.am seeing a pattern. You bumped into Tom Walsh last light, Sophie Hitchon

:33:57. > :34:03.now... Maybe that is a tall order, because the field is very strong.

:34:04. > :34:10.But last year in Rio she was sensational. Let's have a look at

:34:11. > :34:13.that throw. This is her in Rio. Last round, British record, winding up.

:34:14. > :34:19.The rhythm of that is what she has to find tonight. Talents,

:34:20. > :34:26.coordination and stability. You can't fire a cannon from a canoe!

:34:27. > :34:32.That centre axis is like the turning moment of an orbit. Those arms have

:34:33. > :34:37.to stay long. The force pulling her away from that centreline. The knees

:34:38. > :34:43.are highly flexed. That is the low point at the back and the orbit I'm

:34:44. > :34:49.talking about. Her centre of gravity moves upwards. That high point of

:34:50. > :34:55.release at the end. Retaining that balance, and the power released up

:34:56. > :35:06.into that hammer. Four turns, balance and rhythm are key tonight.

:35:07. > :35:13.If she can get that right, she can do well. Is for turns the average?

:35:14. > :35:21.Fall would be the typical. If you go into quick, you decelerate and you

:35:22. > :35:26.get no power. A lot of nerves. Retaining that balance is key. Huge

:35:27. > :35:36.forces. Retaining that length down the hammer. If you shorten it at the

:35:37. > :35:41.key moment, you lose the speed. You were impressed last year in Rio with

:35:42. > :35:46.her mentality and her competition head. It was her second Olympic

:35:47. > :35:51.Games, but her first real chance of getting up there, and knowing she

:35:52. > :35:56.had a real chance on the last throw, and maintain that composure. When

:35:57. > :36:01.you watch athletes coming through the ranks, you say, you've got

:36:02. > :36:07.talent, that how do you learn, and how'd you learn from mistakes? We

:36:08. > :36:14.saw those lessons learned coming to fruition. She was so com posed. She

:36:15. > :36:18.breaks records year in, year out. That is why there was a quiet

:36:19. > :36:28.confidence among the team that she can deliver tonight. The maturity

:36:29. > :36:31.and the attention to detail she has is great. Let's look at her

:36:32. > :36:37.qualifying throw from the other night in just a moment. But first,

:36:38. > :36:43.the second of the 200 metre heats. Those lights look fantastic.

:36:44. > :36:47.Sparkling just like the athletes were on the track.

:36:48. > :36:49.COMMENTATOR: That is how they line up in the second heat for the men's

:36:50. > :37:11.200 metres. There is Rachid Dwyer, who won the

:37:12. > :37:19.Commonwealth title in Glasgow a few years ago. King was fourth in the US

:37:20. > :37:28.trials behind Ameer Webb and Christian Coleman. Coleman not

:37:29. > :37:35.electing to run the 200 metres here. His team decided he needed to focus

:37:36. > :37:48.on the 100. The young Kenyan ran in the 100. Richards, one of seven men

:37:49. > :37:52.to have got below 20 seconds this season. Ran well in Kentucky. Under

:37:53. > :38:37.the University of Alabama. Noise at the moment for the triple

:38:38. > :38:54.jump continuing. Seven heats in total. This is the second of them.

:38:55. > :39:04.Richards away very quickly. Already passed Otuonye on the outside. King

:39:05. > :39:12.of the US outside, and the wire. Richard is leading them into the

:39:13. > :39:27.home straight. A quick run from Richards. 20.06. King and the wire a

:39:28. > :39:35.long way behind. Very, very fast. He is not too far away from that 20.05

:39:36. > :39:42.Richards the first man to really fly in this 200 metres. You describe

:39:43. > :39:49.that perfectly. He was flying from the very beginning. Really stepped

:39:50. > :39:55.up in the first 15 or 20 metres. Hurtled past the fields, and just

:39:56. > :40:00.kept focused. Glanced in there with that cheeky look to his right hand

:40:01. > :40:06.side. He must be thinking at this stage, where is everybody? When you

:40:07. > :40:12.are running 20.05 in a heat, there's not going to be many people around

:40:13. > :40:17.you. Off this turn, that is the important it, to come into that full

:40:18. > :40:23.stride length. Knees up and pump hard. That's what he does, but he's

:40:24. > :40:30.glancing going, am I going that quickly? I can't believe it. An easy

:40:31. > :40:34.heat. He made that look easy. He didn't exactly ease off. Richards,

:40:35. > :40:47.very impressive. He's the defending champion,

:40:48. > :40:52.two-time Olympic champion, love this stadium in London, loves being in

:40:53. > :40:59.the UK. Christian Taylor. Remember that world title he won in Beijing?

:41:00. > :41:06.Almost a world record. The task it is to go beyond 17 metres.

:41:07. > :41:15.He is always beautiful to watch. That was very easy indeed. We will

:41:16. > :41:20.be looking at something more like 18 metres come the final. He can go

:41:21. > :41:27.home and have an early dinner! Well over 17 metres. He has been in great

:41:28. > :41:34.form this year. Triple jump favourite, as he has been for the

:41:35. > :41:42.past few years. The Shard oh taking him on. Nicely on the board. He is

:41:43. > :41:47.always technically good, Taylor, and full of confidence this season. He's

:41:48. > :41:57.not worried about the distance. Just wait for it to officially come up.

:41:58. > :42:03.Safely qualifying. STUDIO: That world record, 18.29,

:42:04. > :42:07.held by Jonathan Edwards for 22 years now. Every year we have said

:42:08. > :42:13.that it feels like it's getting closer. We know that Sophie Hitchon

:42:14. > :42:17.is in action tonight in the hammer final. She qualified with one throw

:42:18. > :42:26.the other night, looking incredibly relaxed. An easy qualification. And

:42:27. > :42:31.I think Sophie needs the pressure of a championship. At the British trial

:42:32. > :42:37.she looked out of sorts. The older you get... She is still mid-20s and

:42:38. > :42:42.has many years to come, but she has been competing enough now that she

:42:43. > :42:47.needs the impetus of the pressure of a world champs. She responds when

:42:48. > :42:53.the pressure is on. I think that will happen here. She struggles a

:42:54. > :42:57.bit at the smaller meetings. Here is Sophie in qualification. No one had

:42:58. > :43:03.gone beyond the qualifying, so she is very much in charge of the

:43:04. > :43:09.competition here. Popped it out to make automatic qualifying. That's

:43:10. > :43:13.the way to do it. Confidence is such a big factor. I'm looking to see how

:43:14. > :43:18.she responds when the pressure builds tonight. When you get your

:43:19. > :43:23.first global medal, it does change you and affect the way you think

:43:24. > :43:28.about things and how you approach your sport. It is that confidence.

:43:29. > :43:33.She wants to be in this arena. And others are looking at her. Not only

:43:34. > :43:40.does she puff her chest out and think, I am the one who can medal,

:43:41. > :43:44.but others look at her as well. And that really does affect you. I'm

:43:45. > :43:51.really looking forward to that competition. She really looks like a

:43:52. > :43:58.star. Yes, and she eggs youths that. The way she walked into the circle,

:43:59. > :44:06.the way she conducts herself. It is majestic. It is heat three of the

:44:07. > :44:12.men's 200 metres. Wayde van Niekerk of South Africa, world record holder

:44:13. > :44:21.and Olympic champion is aiming to do the 200-400 double, and has six

:44:22. > :44:29.races. Yes, and it is a tough ask. He wants to get through the races as

:44:30. > :44:36.quick as possible. And Makwala is trying to do exactly the same thing,

:44:37. > :44:46.his rival in the 200 and the 400, from Botswana. Daniel Talbot is

:44:47. > :44:51.outside of van Niekerk. What a race Talbot ran, got himself into the

:44:52. > :44:59.team with a new personal best. Did very well in Rio last year, getting

:45:00. > :45:05.into the semifinal. This is very interesting, because Alonso Edward,

:45:06. > :45:10.former silver medallist in 2009, is back in lane three. I don't think

:45:11. > :45:17.the danger will come from here, though. Volko may well be an issue

:45:18. > :45:21.for Daniel Talbot, who enjoys the applause of this huge crowd in here.

:45:22. > :45:33.I'm sure they will do the same fault Wayde van Niekerk. A new personal

:45:34. > :45:40.best, 19.84. He has done that twice before. There is Volko. Could well

:45:41. > :45:49.seize a personal best over 200 metres. And Da Silva. 20.15 in the

:45:50. > :45:55.Brazilian Junior Championships. His last race was over 400 metres. It's

:45:56. > :45:57.rumoured he picked up a bit of an injury after that. He ran in

:45:58. > :46:20.Switzerland as well. Da Silva's hobby includes Samba

:46:21. > :46:25.dancing, like Andrew Cotter. Fastest loser spots available but I really

:46:26. > :46:29.don't think Danny Tolbert will be thinking about anything other than

:46:30. > :46:37.top three. He knows Wayde van Niekerk won't run this flat-out or

:46:38. > :46:44.try to cruise through here, Danny can't afford that luxury. Ellis of

:46:45. > :46:56.Barbados in lane six as well, need to watch him. Danny Tolbert gets a

:46:57. > :47:07.pretty good start. Danny is on a good bend, as he normally has. So

:47:08. > :47:17.Talbot is facing van Niekerk. Actually Danny wins it, and a new

:47:18. > :47:26.personal best. Wow, Danny Talbot. That is a new personal best, and

:47:27. > :47:35.Danny Talbot 20.16 moves him above Marlon Devenish, Julian Golding on

:47:36. > :47:42.the UK all-time list. And he was easing up. Once you are in the full

:47:43. > :47:45.flow and they started looking at van Niekerk, and by winning that will

:47:46. > :47:55.affect the lane draw in the next round. Boy oh boy, wasn't that a

:47:56. > :48:01.great impression that Danny set for all of the other British athletes in

:48:02. > :48:06.this event. If anyone wanted to believe what's capable, Danny has

:48:07. > :48:12.shown you, hasn't he? Hard-working this season and he's getting his

:48:13. > :48:23.just rewards. We were wondering what he would do. He comes here, bang

:48:24. > :48:28.bang bang. I cannot believe, Colin. I know we are sitting beside and the

:48:29. > :48:47.camera favours this side, they have given it to van Niekerk by one

:48:48. > :48:53.thousandth of a second. I thought Danny got it. That shoulder will

:48:54. > :49:01.have got it for him. I think that's exactly right, Steve, let's have a

:49:02. > :49:07.look. It is close enough. Anyway, it was close. He has a new personal

:49:08. > :49:13.best. He is with Phil. Danny I think you thought you had

:49:14. > :49:17.won that as well. Yes, but I got through and that's what it's all

:49:18. > :49:22.about. Were you aware of the time when you crossed the line? No, I'm

:49:23. > :49:27.not interested in times. It is nice to know I have got a personal best

:49:28. > :49:32.but this isn't about times. What about the reception you received on

:49:33. > :49:36.how much did it inspire you? Amazing, I felt really good today,

:49:37. > :49:44.the warm up was really nice and I felt in the best shape of my life.

:49:45. > :49:50.To get the lift from the crowd as well, it's really nice. And can we

:49:51. > :49:54.ask what more to come? The only thing in my control as I have to

:49:55. > :50:02.recover properly, a rest day tomorrow and recover again. I don't

:50:03. > :50:06.like to plan too far ahead. Thank you. Wasn't it a good, nice

:50:07. > :50:13.and balanced run by both of these athletes. Van Niekerk is enjoying

:50:14. > :50:21.his running this year. Great over the 200m as well. Giving that cheeky

:50:22. > :50:26.look there. Danny glances at him and says I can be as easy as you as

:50:27. > :50:39.well. Good competition, that is what you like to see. Well run,

:50:40. > :50:47.gentlemen. 20.16. He didn't have to worry about the lesser placings.

:50:48. > :50:51.Third actually went to Volko. Despite the season 's best, that is

:50:52. > :50:57.a fastest loser spots but we still have another four races.

:50:58. > :51:09.I would say we might have an anxious wait, it might be a forlorn one.

:51:10. > :51:12.Great Britain's Nathan Fox, and we have already seen Taylor go beyond

:51:13. > :51:21.the automatic qualification of 70 metres exactly. Nathan Fox would be

:51:22. > :51:30.no -- would need a new lifetime best to make it to the final. Fox, first

:51:31. > :51:39.round. High on the hop. Lost a bit of speed through the phases there.

:51:40. > :51:43.It is good on the board, let's pick out the positives of this. Just

:51:44. > :51:48.popped up and he has to come down hard, and then he's fighting to

:51:49. > :51:53.retain any speed across the ground. It's over 16 metres. The

:51:54. > :51:58.26-year-old, sixth in the Commonwealth Games, probably his

:51:59. > :52:03.most notable performance to date. You can see high forces there. When

:52:04. > :52:10.the triple jumpers get it right they just skip across the ground. 16.27,

:52:11. > :52:18.in eighth place in the first round. So Sophie Hitchon, this is just the

:52:19. > :52:22.warm up so stand easy. She's just trying to build a rhythm, find the

:52:23. > :52:29.positions she has primed thousands of times across all of the work that

:52:30. > :52:36.goes into this. So slightly slower. They do three turns I think, she

:52:37. > :52:40.will have four. Just below 70 metres and that is further than she has

:52:41. > :52:46.thrown in some competitions this year, easily in warm up. That bodes

:52:47. > :53:02.really well and sets her up nicely. Onto the heats in the men's 200m.

:53:03. > :53:09.Web, the US champion. Read the American champion isn't among the

:53:10. > :53:15.fastest in the world, but 11 men have quicker times this year than

:53:16. > :53:29.Webb. Varies Guliyev, now competes for

:53:30. > :53:46.Turkey. Lemaitre in 2011 was running very

:53:47. > :54:07.quick times, sold 11.20. So a mere web goes on the inside. --

:54:08. > :54:50.Ameer Webb. So the four on the inside will be

:54:51. > :54:56.the strength in this race. A good run from the Ivory Coast, but

:54:57. > :55:11.Lemaitre, and this might be a tight race. Ameer Webb, looking across to

:55:12. > :55:17.Guliyev. Guliyev looks strong, he has done for a few seasons now.

:55:18. > :55:24.Moved to Turkey for the better facilities there. 20.16, so exactly

:55:25. > :55:35.the same time as the previous heat, the time of van Niekerk. And Danny

:55:36. > :55:40.Talbot. Yes, Guliyev had a nice controlled race. Doesn't get the

:55:41. > :55:47.best of the starts. He's trying to control the bend, as he comes into

:55:48. > :55:51.the transition. Tracking quite tight which will throw him out further in

:55:52. > :55:58.the lane but he's so controlled that he does it really well and he's not

:55:59. > :56:04.working too hard. This is turning out to be a very interesting first

:56:05. > :56:08.round already. Good times. What I found interesting is when you see

:56:09. > :56:13.Danny Talbot as well, you can most go more quickly when you are

:56:14. > :56:16.relaxed, when you know you are qualifying and not straining. Yes,

:56:17. > :56:25.you don't want to cause any tension whatsoever. Guliyev looks like he's

:56:26. > :56:36.literally out for a Sunday stroll. This is a mouthwatering competition.

:56:37. > :56:43.Here is Ameer Webb, US champion. Working harder than Guliyev, that's

:56:44. > :56:55.for sure. But he's through and that's the most important thing.

:56:56. > :57:08.This is Will Claye, seen his team-mate Taylor go through

:57:09. > :57:16.automatic qualification. Will Claye, maybe in casual mode. The US

:57:17. > :57:21.champion. Capable of going beyond 17 metres but he is shy of it so maybe

:57:22. > :57:27.a bit too casual for the Olympic medallist from Rio last year. Two

:57:28. > :57:35.Olympic silver medals in succession. He has played second fiddle to

:57:36. > :57:43.Christian Taylor a bunch of times. So Will Claye, waiting for his

:57:44. > :57:53.measurement. It is only qualification, top 12 to go through

:57:54. > :57:55.to the final. Will Claye, 16.95, in fifth place.

:57:56. > :57:58.Christian it is always great to see you and I know London has a special

:57:59. > :58:05.place in your heart for many reasons and it's great to get the job done

:58:06. > :58:09.so easily, I'm sure. Thanks, it's great to be back, great memories in

:58:10. > :58:16.the stadium. Now it's all about having fun. I wonder where you feel

:58:17. > :58:23.right now in terms of that record and whether it is within your reach.

:58:24. > :58:29.Is it something you are stretching for, ready to grab? Yes, we have

:58:30. > :58:33.done a phenomenal job to get this point. I know I am back in top

:58:34. > :58:38.shape. I love competition so whoever in the final it will be pushing. A

:58:39. > :58:43.big target on my back but I want to do something to make history. I will

:58:44. > :58:49.be the first person to defend a championship title and I am here to

:58:50. > :58:55.jump 18.30 plus. And this crowd will help. Absolutely, they were

:58:56. > :58:59.phenomenal already today. It's nice to have evening sessions with the

:59:00. > :59:04.crowd really getting into it soaks thank you for making me feel like an

:59:05. > :59:12.honorary Brit. I want to put on a phenomenal show for them. Thank you.

:59:13. > :59:29.There is the, cage ready for Sophie Hitchon and there shears, is, to

:59:30. > :59:36.throw this final. Anita Wlodarcyzk, the overwhelming favourite. Is the

:59:37. > :59:53.introductions to the athletes, to this massive crowd. This is going to

:59:54. > :00:00.be fun. Wlodarcyzk. And a big roar for Sophie Hitchon. Looking relaxed.

:00:01. > :00:05.That is looking good for Sophie. Good warm-ups, good qualification.

:00:06. > :00:15.She is healthy. We can see the other athletes, the other contenders.

:00:16. > :00:29.There is Zhang. Has that pedigree not been on top form this year?

:00:30. > :00:38.Klaas of Germany. She will need to improve on her PB to get amongst it.

:00:39. > :00:44.There is Wang. A highly competitive field for Sophie to contend with.

:00:45. > :00:50.The first use of this evening, Isaac Makwala, the world number one in 200

:00:51. > :00:55.metres, the man who will be taking on Wayde van Niekerk, does not

:00:56. > :00:59.start. That means he's deciding that the 400 is going to take all of his

:01:00. > :01:05.attention tomorrow night, so it means he will be more rested to take

:01:06. > :01:13.on van Niekerk. So there is some mind games there. There is the lane

:01:14. > :01:20.he should have been in. Warren Weir on the outside. He loved this

:01:21. > :01:23.stadium back in 2012. Jamaican one, two and three. The other guys didn't

:01:24. > :01:37.realise Weir had come third until he came around. Greaux, we have seen

:01:38. > :01:50.his team-mate run very fast. Now we have Dodson. Really looking forward

:01:51. > :02:00.to seeing Tortu run. The Olympic junior champion at 200 metres. Then

:02:01. > :02:06.we have Siame, and then Jammeh on the inside. He is a real talent,

:02:07. > :02:11.only just turned 19. He will now think he has a great chance of going

:02:12. > :02:19.through here. Only seven athletes anyway, and then with Makwala not

:02:20. > :02:27.lining up... Warren Weir, we would expect him to go through. Greaux as

:02:28. > :02:33.well. Tortu, the youngster, a big chance for him. Inexperienced in 200

:02:34. > :02:49.meter running. Warren Weir got left a little bit

:02:50. > :02:59.slow. Dodson started quickly in the blue on the inside. It is Siame who

:03:00. > :03:10.is leading it. Warren Weir really struggling. I think he's been run

:03:11. > :03:19.out of it. The 19-year-old thinking, did I get it? I think he did. Ahead

:03:20. > :03:26.of Warren Weir. Very, very tight. So Siame ran a very fast time, a new

:03:27. > :03:32.national record for him. Greaux we would expect to be up there. He's

:03:33. > :03:39.finished second. And it is Tortu who has got their ahead of Warren Weir.

:03:40. > :03:45.Very good to see for the young Italian. Italy has great history in

:03:46. > :03:50.this event. A former world record-holder, held the record for a

:03:51. > :03:55.long time. Italy has good heritage in this event. The big surprise for

:03:56. > :04:03.us is Warren Weir. Really struggling there. What does that sign for us

:04:04. > :04:08.for their 4x100 team? I'm processing the Makwala thing as well. If he

:04:09. > :04:13.declared, which he obviously did because he was drawn in a heat, you

:04:14. > :04:23.cannot come back and compete in the 400 metres without a medical reason.

:04:24. > :04:32.The panel will decide. That will be an interesting challenge. A medical

:04:33. > :04:39.problem today and a miraculous recovery tomorrow? You know these

:04:40. > :04:45.athletes. It means Warren Weir will not go through as the fastest lewd.

:04:46. > :04:52.That's too slow. Tortu has taken one of the favourites out. Not sure

:04:53. > :04:58.whether Makwala will be here tomorrow. Another talking point.

:04:59. > :05:02.Women's hammer about to begin. The first throw of the competition is

:05:03. > :05:07.Hanna Malyshik. The dubious honour of getting the first mark out to set

:05:08. > :05:15.the pace. Clipped the cage on the right very slightly. Bang on the 70

:05:16. > :05:19.metre line. Sometimes athletes feel their way into a competition. Hammer

:05:20. > :05:26.tends to be one of those. Settle in, get rid of the nerves. This is all

:05:27. > :05:30.about timing and rhythm. Keep your arms long, get as much speed into

:05:31. > :05:35.the hammerhead as you can, get the timing right. They've done a little

:05:36. > :05:41.warm up, but this is serious business now. We will see how that

:05:42. > :05:49.involves. The leading mark in the first throw of this competition is

:05:50. > :05:53.69 metres. Just to give you a distance orientation, Sophie, 74

:05:54. > :05:59.metres. The rain starts to come down. This is really significant for

:06:00. > :06:06.Sophie and all the throwers. Hopefully just a small shower.

:06:07. > :06:15.Hammer throwers hate this. No spikes like a sprinter would have. Here is

:06:16. > :06:21.price. Sets herself up. A slightly flat orbit there. It means the

:06:22. > :06:28.hammer lands the way short of 70 metres. A 74 metre throw this year,

:06:29. > :06:34.so that is way down. The rain is coming down. Hope that doesn't

:06:35. > :06:44.become a factor. A slightly greasy circle underfoot is where it can

:06:45. > :06:50.impact. The next throw up is the very finest ever in women's hammer

:06:51. > :07:01.throwing. The most likely winner of all events in the preamble that so

:07:02. > :07:05.many people are speculating across all the events here. Wlodarczyk, a

:07:06. > :07:11.resounding favourite. Odds-on to take the gold. Her personal best of

:07:12. > :07:18.their at the end of last year, which she did after breaking the record in

:07:19. > :07:24.Rio. Olympic champion, Wlodarczyk. Slightly off-balance. That's not as

:07:25. > :07:32.good as she would have hoped for. The frown on the face. She opened up

:07:33. > :07:38.with 76 metres last year and went on to throw 82. Hits the cage hair.

:07:39. > :07:43.Doesn't look as comfortable as we've seen her. She's through close to the

:07:44. > :07:49.world record just over a week ago. I think the rain has become a factor

:07:50. > :07:56.in this first round. She does take the lead. I bumped into Sophie

:07:57. > :08:02.Hitchon this morning on her way into the stadium. A huge cheer in support

:08:03. > :08:14.of the British champion, the Olympic bronze medallist from Rio. She just

:08:15. > :08:19.had to words to say. She said, "I'm ready". Sophie Hitchon, round one.

:08:20. > :08:28.That's good. That will be over 70, I think. That is a big throw and a

:08:29. > :08:33.good start for Sophie. It will take the lead. That's what she wanted,

:08:34. > :08:38.just to get her rhythm in and get her balance orientated. She can

:08:39. > :08:49.build from there. She opened with a foul in Rio a year ago. Really good

:08:50. > :08:53.stuff. 71.47. Very early stages, but she goes into the lead. She will

:08:54. > :09:01.need more than that to contend for medals, I would suggest. You've got

:09:02. > :09:06.a crystal ball! I think that might be good enough. Let's see how the

:09:07. > :09:12.rain affects things. The rain makes it a little bit quicker. It affects

:09:13. > :09:17.the lining up of your head, your hips, your arms with the ball. If

:09:18. > :09:20.you start turning quicker than you can control, who knows what will

:09:21. > :09:25.happen? Down the other end of the stadium,

:09:26. > :09:33.they are getting ready for the six of seven first round heats for Great

:09:34. > :09:38.Britain. Tsar now Hughes go here. A pretty good lane for him. Chasing

:09:39. > :09:46.the man who got better as the 100 metres went on, and finished fifth

:09:47. > :09:52.in the 100, as he did in Rio. Hughes was fifth in the last World

:09:53. > :10:07.Championships. That is the cheer for him. A huge talent, and just 22.

:10:08. > :10:12.Tsakonas of Greece, seven times the Greek champion. Ali, a Sudanese

:10:13. > :10:19.citizen, but raised in Texas. And Millar, the 100-200 double in the

:10:20. > :10:33.New Zealand championships. All the quick men get a rugby jersey

:10:34. > :10:41.put on them very sharply in New Zealand. We saw Simbine. We didn't

:10:42. > :10:43.see Young of the United States. He only finished fifth in the US

:10:44. > :11:00.trials. The really go through automatically.

:11:01. > :11:09.Zharnel Hughes gets a roar from the crowd. A good run from Sakho lasts

:11:10. > :11:22.at the moment. -- Tsakonas. Hughes is being run out of the automatic

:11:23. > :11:35.qualifying. Tsakonas of Greece. Zharnel Hughes, what was his time?

:11:36. > :11:40.Needs to beat 20.58. I think it might be quick enough to go through

:11:41. > :11:44.as one of the fastest losers. There are three fastest losers, and it

:11:45. > :11:55.looks as though he's going to be OK. I was watching Zharnel. A really

:11:56. > :11:58.strong first round for them. Very competitive run. Glanced at the

:11:59. > :12:05.scoreboard, tries to see where everybody fielded. He is working

:12:06. > :12:11.hard to try and get himself in that position. Just trying to hold his

:12:12. > :12:16.form, but the Greek just comes in. When you are already tired, you are

:12:17. > :12:20.fatigued and you have a bit of lactic acid, very difficult to pick

:12:21. > :12:25.up your pace again. He's had his problem. Last year was nearly a

:12:26. > :12:32.total write off for the young man. But he's very young. Usain Bolt says

:12:33. > :12:40.he's extremely talented. Works hard. With that in mind, he's got his

:12:41. > :12:45.future. Zharnel, it is a waiting game for you now. You are in one of

:12:46. > :12:53.the fastest losers positions. Tell me about the race. I think I got off

:12:54. > :12:57.a little bit too slow. I tried to stay relaxed as much as possible in

:12:58. > :13:02.the home straight. As the fastest loser at the moment, it's looking

:13:03. > :13:11.good for you. Tell me what you are working on now for your day's gap.

:13:12. > :13:19.The rest is there. I'm healthy, so that is good for me. Today was like

:13:20. > :13:25.a warm up for me. Hopefully I get through for the semis, and I better

:13:26. > :13:27.myself. Let me ask you about comparing this experience to your

:13:28. > :13:34.previous World Championships, where you finished fifth in the final.

:13:35. > :13:37.This year has been difficult, because I have suffered with

:13:38. > :13:49.injuries all season. I've picked myself up nicely and I'm in good

:13:50. > :13:57.shape. I wish you well. Thank you. Hughes is the fastest of the fastest

:13:58. > :14:03.losers, so hopefully he will go through.

:14:04. > :14:09.STUDIO: We were discussing early on with Steve Backley the drama of that

:14:10. > :14:15.shot that competition last night. It was all built up with you and your

:14:16. > :14:23.team-mate, and the US, Kovacs, ended up with the silver. You did not get

:14:24. > :14:28.on to the rostrum at all. Had it been a legitimate throw, it would

:14:29. > :14:32.have won you the gold. We showed earlier on the shots of it and what

:14:33. > :14:36.we assumed the problem was the it and why it wasn't a legitimate

:14:37. > :14:44.throw. Look again at the footage and Teles where you believe this was a

:14:45. > :14:50.legitimate throw. The foul was called on the left foot. As I turned

:14:51. > :14:57.right there, they said I touched outside the ring. When I saw the red

:14:58. > :15:03.flag come up, I thought it was at the front of the ring on my left

:15:04. > :15:10.foot. In that instance on a through, that is where I go left of centre.

:15:11. > :15:15.Taw Hill that it -- to hear that it was called on that was a surprise.

:15:16. > :15:20.In the heat of the competition, that was a better throw. You think the

:15:21. > :15:28.Shadow proves that you foot didn't go out?

:15:29. > :15:39.Yes, it is hard to see at that angle. How do you keep your hopes

:15:40. > :15:44.alive? It is difficult. All we can do, we are really looking for a side

:15:45. > :15:52.view that will finalise it. We have a rear-view but not a true side view

:15:53. > :15:57.that would see under. If anyone was filming that last night from the

:15:58. > :16:03.side, get in touch! Can I ask a quick question, Ryan, wouldn't your

:16:04. > :16:10.foot be rising at that point? It shouldn't really be in contact with

:16:11. > :16:13.the metal strip around the ring. Exactly and my shoes are hard

:16:14. > :16:19.archers so they don't have any flex in them. Above the ball of the fort

:16:20. > :16:24.it is a solid piece of plastic inside so there is no flex, it is

:16:25. > :16:29.kind of a hard edge. Tough call, we have got to do what we can to

:16:30. > :16:36.hopefully ride it. Can you stay with us because we have the next heat of

:16:37. > :16:40.the men's 200m so we will take this and come right back to you.

:16:41. > :16:51.Interesting stuff, so Mitchell-Blake, the man

:16:52. > :16:59.from Newham, loving his opportunity to compete in front of the home

:17:00. > :17:06.crowd. Aaron Brown of Canada, very experienced even though he's only

:17:07. > :17:16.25. Clarence Munyai will be one to watch. No one in lane eight. Morris

:17:17. > :17:25.should have been there but he has not started. His quickest time

:17:26. > :17:34.outside of South Africa has been 20.03. Brown's personal-best is

:17:35. > :17:42.exactly 20 seconds where is Mitchell-Blake by contrast has

:17:43. > :17:50.already gone under 20. Based in the US, when his parents moved out

:17:51. > :17:53.there, but very much a London boy. Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake in great

:17:54. > :18:02.form this year so he needs to run like Danny Talbot did. A brilliant

:18:03. > :18:19.performance from him. Hughes is the fastest loser at the moment. Only

:18:20. > :18:25.six athletes in this. So just concentrate and if you could win

:18:26. > :18:38.this that would be helpful and helps with the lane draws in the next

:18:39. > :18:44.round, where it gets really tough. Britain's second man of all time,

:18:45. > :18:51.Mitchell-Blake in this last heat. Doesn't get the best of starts. Also

:18:52. > :18:56.Munyai going very well indeed. The three of them pulling away, and

:18:57. > :19:03.Mitchell-Blake starting to come through. Backs off a little bit,

:19:04. > :19:11.Brown responds. It will be tight on the line, 20.09! Looking good,

:19:12. > :19:14.looking smooth, and he applauds the crowd because Nethaneel

:19:15. > :19:21.Mitchell-Blake knows he might be one of the outsiders but he will be

:19:22. > :19:26.thinking like that. This is nicely warming up, with two of the British

:19:27. > :19:32.athletes running very nicely indeed. Hughes is through as well so we will

:19:33. > :19:35.have three of them in the semifinal. We are waiting for the win to come

:19:36. > :19:44.up on the scoreboard. It is very close, I suspect it was Brown,

:19:45. > :19:49.Colin. I think so, we have been wrong. He didn't want to take any

:19:50. > :19:56.risks. Do it the way you know you can do it. Why play in this

:19:57. > :19:59.circumstance? Get yourself into the qualifying position, as Nathanial

:20:00. > :20:37.Mitchell Brown has done there. -- as Brown has done there.

:20:38. > :20:42.Back to this women's,. This is Wang of China, very capable. Sophie

:20:43. > :20:50.Hitchon is in the lead at the moment. That is a good throw from

:20:51. > :20:55.Wang, over 70 metres. There is your new leader. We are in the first

:20:56. > :21:01.round, it is the early stages and we talked about the athletes needing to

:21:02. > :21:07.find their rhythm. Tony miniature low coached Jessica Ennis-Hill, the

:21:08. > :21:16.Olympic champion, have you ever a hammer? I have thrown one but that

:21:17. > :21:20.was in the Northern league. The thing is how quickly they accelerate

:21:21. > :21:25.the ball. Just watch how the ball gets faster and faster with 50% of

:21:26. > :21:36.the speed being generated by the last one and a half terms. So Paul

:21:37. > :21:44.and have a potential successor, Kopron. That's decent as well. Good

:21:45. > :21:50.speed, and another throw around the 75-metre line and these will be

:21:51. > :22:02.significant distances, as we assess the challenge that will come from

:22:03. > :22:11.Sophie Hitchon. The event leader just shy of her personal best, 73.40

:22:12. > :22:19.one. But 74.76, Kopron goes into the lead. I talked about a potential

:22:20. > :22:30.successor, it would be if Wlodarczyk, the 22-year-old, can do

:22:31. > :22:40.just that it is this athlete, Anita Wlodarczyk stepping into the Hammer

:22:41. > :22:45.Circle for her second throw. 70.45 in her first throw and unusually

:22:46. > :22:49.finds herself in sixth place but she is way better than that, the world

:22:50. > :22:56.record holder of course. Round two of the Hammer. Wlodarczyk, quicker,

:22:57. > :23:07.more balanced. It is a much bigger throw. It is over 75 metres but it

:23:08. > :23:12.is a foul. That is very unusual for one of the most consistent athletes

:23:13. > :23:16.in the world. Let's look at this, she steps out. I think in trying to

:23:17. > :23:22.accelerate the hammer faster she is pulling away. She's off balance at

:23:23. > :23:31.the point when it is the fastest and trying to release it. Here comes

:23:32. > :23:36.Sophie Hitchon to a huge roar from the crowd. Very supportive of Sophie

:23:37. > :23:42.Hitchon. She has meddled on the global stage, she knows she's

:23:43. > :23:48.capable. 71.47, looking to build the rhythm in the second round. The hand

:23:49. > :23:55.raised aloft. It is a big effort, maybe she thought it was a little

:23:56. > :24:07.bit more than it was. It looked better, didn't it? Let's have a look

:24:08. > :24:12.here. Long arms. I'm not a hammer expert but it seemed to have a

:24:13. > :24:20.greater speed. Doesn't go out at such a high angle. Good scream, good

:24:21. > :24:26.shout at it. Stays in fourth but this competition is just starting.

:24:27. > :24:31.So lots more drama to come for Sophie Hitchon. She knows what's in

:24:32. > :24:35.front of her. Six throws for the athletes if you make top eight and

:24:36. > :24:42.Sophie Hitchon at the moment is in fourth place.

:24:43. > :24:47.Just look at the result of this, Mitchell-Blake has come through

:24:48. > :25:21.obviously very comfortably, looking very good. Hughes goes through. We

:25:22. > :25:25.are told Isaac Makwala was ill with food poisoning. Semifinals of course

:25:26. > :25:32.there will be free of them. As I said, Hughes there, 20.43 and these

:25:33. > :25:43.are some of the slowest qualifiers by rights.

:25:44. > :25:50.Thank you, a great round of 200m heat and the 400m hurdles women kick

:25:51. > :25:54.off shortly but Ryan Crouser is still with us because we are trying

:25:55. > :25:59.to disseminate whether you have a case for the grand jury to sit. You

:26:00. > :26:05.have the right of appeal but you are looking for a specific angle to show

:26:06. > :26:09.it was a legitimate throw. Yes, we have a few looking straight from the

:26:10. > :26:17.back and from the quarter ring shot... Does that one help you? Yes,

:26:18. > :26:22.everything we have seen, in my opinion and most of the people who

:26:23. > :26:27.have viewed it, see that it is a clean throw, but we are looking for

:26:28. > :26:31.the side angle that would give a definite shot to see daylight

:26:32. > :26:36.underneath that shoe. What is the time limit that you have to get the

:26:37. > :26:42.grand jury to sit again, because this cannot go on and on? The rules

:26:43. > :26:46.are not specific, but they do reference the medal ceremony as

:26:47. > :26:51.optimal, getting it done before them, but I believe they will want

:26:52. > :26:56.to get the call right. That's all I can hope for. If something comes up,

:26:57. > :27:00.that we can get a definite call, something new. That's all you can

:27:01. > :27:06.hope for that they will do the right thing and make right call. And you

:27:07. > :27:13.will potentially be giving the discus ago next year? Yes, might be

:27:14. > :27:18.fun to pick it up. I have 63.90 so a little over a metre further and I

:27:19. > :27:23.can get the world standard. We look forward to seeing you throw that

:27:24. > :27:27.next year, and best of luck with this.

:27:28. > :27:33.The world long jump champion is coming in shortly to the studio, but

:27:34. > :27:38.Ryan's American team-mate and world champion Justin Gatlin is in the

:27:39. > :27:42.house tonight, and taking selfie is as well, keeping himself warm. It is

:27:43. > :27:55.getting a bit chilly in the London this evening.

:27:56. > :28:06.Eilidh Doyle, out on the warm up track. And there is Linford

:28:07. > :28:10.Christie, 1993 world champion, the year of his Olympic gold in

:28:11. > :28:16.Barcelona. And he has been coaching for a long time now, hasn't he,

:28:17. > :28:21.Denise? Yes, putting in the hours and giving back to the sport, and

:28:22. > :28:26.clearly having a laugh with some of the volunteers, which is great.

:28:27. > :28:31.Let's get back into the stadium because the hurdles are out. The

:28:32. > :28:42.Olympic champion, Mohammed is out as well so it's the women's 400m

:28:43. > :28:46.hurdles round one, Andrew Cotter. The Americans have an incredible

:28:47. > :28:52.challenge in this athlete with three wonderful athletes. That's how they

:28:53. > :29:07.line up for the first of five first heats.

:29:08. > :29:20.There is Lauren Wells. Nugent, third at the Championships. Not too far

:29:21. > :29:45.from a personal best. The 21-year-old Cuban goes in five,

:29:46. > :29:58.then McKnight of Trinidad and Tobago. Watson in lane three, the

:29:59. > :30:04.Canadian. And Rosolova of the Czech Republic. In 2012 her husband upset

:30:05. > :30:25.Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon. Sage Watson, who I think is more of

:30:26. > :30:28.a threat than Rosolova. Delilah Mohammed, the Olympic champion, is

:30:29. > :30:41.there, the fastest in the world this year. She pulled up in Lausanne very

:30:42. > :30:43.early, and was only six in the diamond league meeting. If you

:30:44. > :30:59.questions to answer here. This is not an event that you can

:31:00. > :31:07.take it too easy, because you have this stride pattern to keep.

:31:08. > :31:16.Muhammad up there already. Moving along so easily and effortlessly.

:31:17. > :31:20.Already with a need over Nugent. Muhammad leading them home. For to

:31:21. > :31:26.go through automatically. Look at the lead she has. Sage Watson of

:31:27. > :31:37.Canada are also going well in lane three. Trying to give Muhammad a bit

:31:38. > :31:41.of a race, but Muhammad still clear. The Cuban was in a position, and

:31:42. > :31:50.then she suddenly faltered at the last barrier. Muhammad, Watson and

:31:51. > :31:59.Rosolova just coming through to take third place. You saw what can go

:32:00. > :32:05.wrong when the lactic acid builds up, like with the Cuban athlete.

:32:06. > :32:13.Muhammad with a comfortable fit three. It is nice to see her finish.

:32:14. > :32:18.She's had some problems this season, mainly extending from a nerve issue,

:32:19. > :32:25.something similar to sciatica. That's caused her not to be able to

:32:26. > :32:30.compete as well as she wanted to do. I like to see her going out hard

:32:31. > :32:35.like she did, committing herself over those barriers, getting into

:32:36. > :32:41.the groove of the race. When you do that, you can have that nice cruise

:32:42. > :32:53.into the final few barriers. She is quality, and still the favourite to

:32:54. > :33:03.my mind. This is Wang of China in the hammer. We have just seen

:33:04. > :33:15.Fyodorov of Poland with 73.02. A big scream from Wang. That is better.

:33:16. > :33:20.This competition is hotting up. And Wang is ranked third on the world

:33:21. > :33:26.list this year. Gets her feet down early and stays in contact. A good

:33:27. > :33:36.example of how to control that high forces. Looks like that has gone

:33:37. > :33:46.into the lead for Wang. 75 .94. Takes the lead from cop from.

:33:47. > :33:55.I'm just going to give you a bit of news. It is incredible because the

:33:56. > :34:04.two athletes who raced Mitchell-Blake have now been taken

:34:05. > :34:09.from qualification from that heat because of the Lane infringement.

:34:10. > :34:20.Noma Kuala, no brown, so Mitchell-Blake going through.

:34:21. > :34:34.That is the first heat in the women's 400 metres hurdles. Muhammad

:34:35. > :34:45.very, very comfortable indeed. Rosolova and McKnight with seasons

:34:46. > :34:49.best times. Wlodarczyk, four times world record breaker, three times

:34:50. > :34:55.European champion, twice world champion and now twice Olympic

:34:56. > :35:02.champion. She is in seventh place. Only eight to go through, and this

:35:03. > :35:06.is the third round. Surprisingly seeing the world record holder in a

:35:07. > :35:16.situation she unfamiliar with. She is going to need a through beyond

:35:17. > :35:24.71, 72 metres to stay in contention. Looks like it was off balance again.

:35:25. > :35:31.Really down on what she is so consistent at doing. I've never seen

:35:32. > :35:35.her off. She is so consistent. It's really hard to get across just how

:35:36. > :35:40.much of a favourite she was going into this competition. But Anita

:35:41. > :35:54.Wlodarczyk looking really out of sorts. 71.90 four. She goes ahead of

:35:55. > :36:02.Sophie Hitchon. And that pushes Hitchon into seventh place.

:36:03. > :36:10.Wlodarczyk into fifth place. The competition really is in the reach

:36:11. > :36:17.of Sophie Hitchon. Fast again. No response from Sophie. Another throw

:36:18. > :36:23.beyond 70 metres. Looks like it is in the same hole again. I looks like

:36:24. > :36:29.she comes out a bit early, as if she needs to hold onto the hammerhead a

:36:30. > :36:34.bit longer. That's good. Is it travelling fast enough on release?

:36:35. > :36:46.Does she need a bit more speed and really work that last one and a half

:36:47. > :36:50.turn. Every single throw of hers has got slightly better. With three more

:36:51. > :36:56.rounds to go, she is finding her rhythm, finding her style. I think

:36:57. > :37:02.she will go the distance. It's all about rhythm. She's working her way

:37:03. > :37:10.into this competition. Her best last summer. Hitchon very much involved

:37:11. > :37:21.and in contention for a medal, but in sixth place at the moment.

:37:22. > :37:27.Jessica Turner has lain to in this next heat of the 400 metre hurdles.

:37:28. > :37:35.Hopefully that will not faze her. She's done brilliantly to get in.

:37:36. > :37:47.This is the first athlete from her club who has made it in to an event

:37:48. > :37:54.like this. When she won a medal at the European under 23 is, she was in

:37:55. > :38:01.lane eight on that occasion. The fact she is in lane two, she has a

:38:02. > :38:14.huge task ahead if she is to finish in the first four. Tate and Hejnova.

:38:15. > :38:18.Back in really good form, Hejnova. Colin is favouring the Americans,

:38:19. > :38:26.but I wouldn't say that Hejnova is going to be too far behind.

:38:27. > :38:31.Cassandra Tate, got the wild card entry. For Americans in this one.

:38:32. > :38:40.She won the Diamond League last year. Had a very consistent season.

:38:41. > :38:46.Rodriguez, and then Folorunso, the new European under 23 champion,

:38:47. > :38:51.beating Jessica Turner. Petersen from Denmark, another having a very

:38:52. > :38:57.good season. One that the bronze medal in Rio, the first ever for

:38:58. > :39:07.Denmark. A huge cheer for Jessica Turner. What a season she's had. 21,

:39:08. > :39:17.and running in the World Championships. 56.08 her new

:39:18. > :39:20.personal best. She was leading in those European under 23

:39:21. > :39:26.championships with two hurdles to go. This time she can see the whole

:39:27. > :39:29.field. She will need to run the race of her life here, with Petersen,

:39:30. > :39:51.Hejnova and Tate. The crowd will get behind Jessica

:39:52. > :39:59.Turner. There are four fastest loser spots available, so if she can run a

:40:00. > :40:03.personal best, you never know. Hejnova is controlling this. Going

:40:04. > :40:09.past the young Swiss, who looks a little ragged at the moment. Jessica

:40:10. > :40:20.Turner is in the battle. Needs to keep her eye on Sara Slott Petersen

:40:21. > :40:24.in lane four. Just about in fourth at the moment. Can she hold it in

:40:25. > :40:30.the home straight? Rodriguez starting to come through in the

:40:31. > :40:35.middle. Jessica Turner stuttering there and faltering badly here. They

:40:36. > :40:39.are all slowing up. Hejnova had the chance to look across. An untidy

:40:40. > :40:57.race for Tate. It seemed to go out really hard, and

:40:58. > :41:01.then people were suffering a bit in the home straight, including

:41:02. > :41:06.Hejnova. Not the smoothest of qualifications I've seen from her.

:41:07. > :41:11.The technical side of this event is so crucial. You have to get it

:41:12. > :41:16.right, because you have to deal with the fatigue factor and the

:41:17. > :41:21.technicality of the event. Deciding whether to go hard into a barrier or

:41:22. > :41:27.back off, which leg you will take it on. Whether to conserve energy or

:41:28. > :41:33.not. All of this is going on in these early rounds. That's why you

:41:34. > :41:42.may see somebody like Hejnova, who is so talented, make that kind of

:41:43. > :41:49.small error. Jest turn-up of Great Britain there. Not enough today. She

:41:50. > :41:56.was doing so well until that penultimate hurdle. She started to

:41:57. > :42:02.lose some of her form coming off that bend. Maybe overwhelming, but

:42:03. > :42:08.she gave it her all. On that wide shot there, you can see we have a

:42:09. > :42:17.guest in our house this evening. The first gold medallist we have had in

:42:18. > :42:25.the studio these championships. Man yoga, you gave us a fantastic long

:42:26. > :42:30.jump competition. Had a brilliant year and had that early seasonal

:42:31. > :42:37.form in Shanghai. How confident were you coming into this World

:42:38. > :42:41.Championships? At the beginning of this year, I've told myself to take

:42:42. > :42:46.everything that is coming in front of me. With Henderson not qualifying

:42:47. > :42:52.for the final, did you think that it was yours to take? I was not worried

:42:53. > :43:00.about anybody else. I was just focusing on my race. I don't care

:43:01. > :43:09.how far they are jumping, just focusing on myself. A good attitude,

:43:10. > :43:13.Michael. A great attitude. Seems like there's a lot of great attitude

:43:14. > :43:19.coming out of South Africa right now. You guys are really starting to

:43:20. > :43:25.come along. It reminds me of when Jamaica started to dominate the

:43:26. > :43:30.track in athletics. What is the atmosphere in the South Africa right

:43:31. > :43:36.now with so much competition? The talent in the squad is huge. What we

:43:37. > :43:43.are doing right now in South Africa. Last year we got some medals and

:43:44. > :43:49.that motivated as so much. We keep motivating each other. At small

:43:50. > :43:53.meetings in South Africa. We started to prepare ourselves very well

:43:54. > :43:59.competing with each other before we went international. It doesn't

:44:00. > :44:04.matter what you do. I can do long jump, another guy does the 200

:44:05. > :44:11.metres. I will put pressure on myself to do well as well. When you

:44:12. > :44:19.go International, the South Africans can dominate athletics. As well as

:44:20. > :44:25.dominating your event and being impressed by your performance,

:44:26. > :44:30.people are very impressed by your story and what you have overcome.

:44:31. > :44:34.Four years ago, you were addicted to a similar substance to crystal meth.

:44:35. > :44:41.How did athletics get you back into the focus you have now? I love

:44:42. > :44:47.athletics with all my heart. It's rather like a hiccup of life.

:44:48. > :44:56.Everyone makes mistakes. That was a wake-up call for myself, to go out

:44:57. > :45:02.there and show myself that it wasn't like meant to happen. Everything in

:45:03. > :45:08.life is meant to happen. I learned my lesson. I was a kid. I overcame

:45:09. > :45:15.it, and today I am the world champion. Just have to focus on what

:45:16. > :45:19.is going on now. I am chasing the world record now, so it really

:45:20. > :45:27.excites me that people can say I was out for five years now, I'm top of

:45:28. > :45:31.the league. How much of an inspiration are you? In South

:45:32. > :45:36.Africa, in the townships, there is a huge problem with this drug. I've

:45:37. > :45:43.seen it myself in those townships. It is an insidious drug. You must be

:45:44. > :45:47.an incredible role model to young people who also have athletic talent

:45:48. > :45:50.and abilities, that they can go out and prove themselves in all kinds of

:45:51. > :46:03.areas. There is a huge struggle on

:46:04. > :46:06.substance abuse. I am an inspiring person to inspire everyone

:46:07. > :46:12.struggling with addiction. I just want to make sure every day I'm

:46:13. > :46:17.staying healthy. So if everyone is watching, just focus on what's going

:46:18. > :46:29.on today. Doesn't matter what happened yesterday, it matters what

:46:30. > :46:33.is coming tomorrow. Luvo mentioned the world record, and no one has got

:46:34. > :46:40.close for a while. It has been a while since someone

:46:41. > :46:44.got close. Before it was 1968, one of those moments we all remember,

:46:45. > :46:49.then of course Mike Powell and the epic jump of Carl Lewis. Those guys

:46:50. > :46:55.you have studied, and what do you think you have to do to get there,

:46:56. > :46:59.if you feel like you can accomplish that? I can say the technology we

:47:00. > :47:02.have now is not the same they were using back then so we have the

:47:03. > :47:12.advantage of getting more powerful in strength and stuff like that. It

:47:13. > :47:21.has been done by a human being so I believe I can do it all so. The main

:47:22. > :47:27.thing that keeps me going, I was born in 1991 when the world record

:47:28. > :47:32.was broken. It is destiny! Will you stay with us because we are going to

:47:33. > :47:39.back out for another 400m hurdles, and I have just noticed your nail

:47:40. > :47:48.varnish! Have a look at that! Stay with us and we will chat further.

:47:49. > :48:01.Andrew Cotter. It is very similar to mine.

:48:02. > :48:09.Sophie Hitchon is about to go again. As you can see in the hammer cage,

:48:10. > :48:15.Sophie Hitchon has taken to the hammer circle. The order has been

:48:16. > :48:27.reversed so the best thrower goes last. Sophie Hitchon, fourth round

:48:28. > :48:34.of the hammer. No. The foul, two throws remaining and for --

:48:35. > :48:44.frustrated look on the face of Sophie Hitchon.

:48:45. > :49:02.Tracy of Jamaica in lane two. Little in lane six, Yusuf Jamal, in lane

:49:03. > :49:13.eight. Again, it is four to go through automatically and Little

:49:14. > :49:20.second at the US championships and the blistering race in Sacramento in

:49:21. > :49:31.June. Already Little is making up huge ground. Fontanive of

:49:32. > :49:41.Switzerland trying to make up ground, but Little clear at the

:49:42. > :49:45.moment. She needs to stretch for that one. She was short and try to

:49:46. > :49:58.reach it, now she is struggling. She will feel that in her legs, but

:49:59. > :50:06.Fontanive is coming close. Shamier Little in all sorts of trouble. That

:50:07. > :50:10.was extraordinary. You saw her stretching for that barrier, trying

:50:11. > :50:15.to keep the stride pattern, but when you are getting tired and you are

:50:16. > :50:19.short on it, she went for it, hit it hard, and she can perhaps get away

:50:20. > :50:25.with it in the first round but cannot afford that further down the

:50:26. > :50:31.road. I would describe that race as a total disaster, the finish was

:50:32. > :50:35.atrocious. Worked hard at the very beginning, got into a groove but

:50:36. > :50:48.then she decided oh, I'm not sure if I'm going to change down or not. She

:50:49. > :50:52.came to dens stop. Tracey flew past. All of a sudden virtually the same

:50:53. > :50:58.thing happened as she approaches this barrier. She goes from hero to

:50:59. > :51:05.zero in the blink of an eye. That left Tracey a long way clear because

:51:06. > :51:16.Shamier Little, look at the shock on her face as she hits it. Whoa! What

:51:17. > :51:22.has happened here, she says. You wouldn't expect her to be so

:51:23. > :51:26.disastrous. Same thing again, she's worrying how to negotiate that and

:51:27. > :51:35.they are really basic issues and basic problems there. Just awful.

:51:36. > :51:40.She is running on sheer terror. She did finally make it, just, in third

:51:41. > :51:55.place. Which I can confirm for you now, a long way behind Ristananna

:51:56. > :52:04.Tracey. We are in the fourth round of the

:52:05. > :52:11.hammer, and Anita Wlodarczyk on 71.94, she threw 10m further ten

:52:12. > :52:14.days ago. That's the pressure of the World Championships. The fourth

:52:15. > :52:20.round looks more controlled though. It is still off-balance but a better

:52:21. > :52:24.throw. That is more like it, that will take Wlodarczyk into the lead.

:52:25. > :52:32.She just had to get it right once, and she has thrown a throw, well,

:52:33. > :52:38.better than anyone else in the world this year even when it wasn't

:52:39. > :52:42.perfect. That's how good she is. It would have been a huge upset if she

:52:43. > :52:53.hadn't taken the lead at some point in the competition. 77.39,

:52:54. > :52:58.Wlodarczyk in gold position. And Luvo Manyonga has stayed with us

:52:59. > :53:03.a little longer. We were talking about the atmosphere in the stadium,

:53:04. > :53:11.what have you made of the crowds that have come out? I was not

:53:12. > :53:15.expecting so much people. It's a great atmosphere. I love to

:53:16. > :53:21.entertain people when I am jumping so it gives me the adrenaline

:53:22. > :53:27.pumping so it was great. Shall we have a look at your winning jump

:53:28. > :53:31.again? I'm sure you have seen it a couple of times but it won't be too

:53:32. > :53:38.much trouble to see it again. Talk us through it. Did you feel when you

:53:39. > :53:42.took off? They didn't feel it because I was holding back to get

:53:43. > :53:52.the safe jump but when I saw it on the screen, I didn't feel like it

:53:53. > :53:59.was 8.48 so I was securing myself. So you are holding back almost, you

:54:00. > :54:05.say? Yes, because my first one was a note jump. I said to my coach after

:54:06. > :54:11.the safe jump I am going all-out. But it was enough, it turned out,

:54:12. > :54:17.and you had a novel celebration. Never seen a sand angel before! Was

:54:18. > :54:26.that premeditated? This is brilliant. I am a Christian, I

:54:27. > :54:30.believe in God, so I would say my life was being controlled by God

:54:31. > :54:43.since the day I started athletics. This gold medal came luckily, I am

:54:44. > :54:49.blessed. If you can see now, we are praying, thanking God for the

:54:50. > :54:54.opportunity he gave us. I think from your story what strikes me is that

:54:55. > :55:02.you get second chances in life and you used yours to the maximum, with

:55:03. > :55:08.your dabs as well, fantastic. Yes, it is a popular thing, everyone

:55:09. > :55:16.dabs. I wanted to be the first champion to do the dab. Well it has

:55:17. > :55:23.been wonderful having you here, and we have a really great campaign

:55:24. > :55:26.which recalled Get Inspired at the BBC, and I think you will have

:55:27. > :55:34.inspired a lot of people with your story, Luvo, so best of luck with

:55:35. > :55:42.whatever you do going forward. Now it is another 400m hurdles heat, and

:55:43. > :55:49.Eilidh Doyle is in this one. Expect allowed roar.

:55:50. > :55:57.Absolutely, one of our most popular athletes. She's in lane nine. We are

:55:58. > :56:08.not using lane one. Carter, the very good American. We are keeping an eye

:56:09. > :56:20.on the hammer cage off to the left because Sophie Hitchon is going

:56:21. > :56:26.again. Fifth round. So, from one Brit to the other,

:56:27. > :56:32.Sophie Hitchon, 71.80 her best so far. She will need a lifetime best

:56:33. > :56:41.to get back into the medals. It is a high throw, another 1/70 metres. The

:56:42. > :56:56.bronze medal line you can see, way out. Kopron, with silver. You can

:56:57. > :57:04.see Sophie Hitchon will have to dig really deep in the last round. One

:57:05. > :57:11.more throw remaining, and possibly a medal slipping from her grasp. One

:57:12. > :57:19.more chance for Sophie Hitchon. Eilidh Doyle just looking across.

:57:20. > :57:24.She will be trying to focus on the job at hand here. She has been so

:57:25. > :57:29.consistent here, doing very well on the Diamond League circuit and she

:57:30. > :57:34.just wants one of those better races that we have seen from her, just to

:57:35. > :57:38.make sure here. Out in lane nine. I'm sure she won't mind that

:57:39. > :57:49.actually, she can just focus on her own race here. With Nel, they know

:57:50. > :57:56.each other very well indeed. Very well matched, those two. Carter, who

:57:57. > :58:04.won in Monaco, a really good performance in Monaco but Eilidh

:58:05. > :58:12.Doyle was not there, she had gone home to prepare. 52.95 her best this

:58:13. > :58:28.year, had an amazing American Championships. So the roar goes up

:58:29. > :58:35.for Eilidh Doyle. Heat four, the top four to go through. It should be a

:58:36. > :58:40.fairly straightforward race for Doyle but you cannot mess around

:58:41. > :58:51.with the hurdles. Eilidh Doyle just pulling away from Wenda Nel. Maybe

:58:52. > :58:59.when they get onto the home straight, they can change down,

:59:00. > :59:09.realise that you don't have to push too hard, just safely negotiating

:59:10. > :59:16.the last two barriers. With Woodruff on the inside. Eilidh Doyle just

:59:17. > :59:24.using a the line, Wenda Nel ahead of her there. We know that the

:59:25. > :59:29.Americans are so good. It doesn't really matter at this stage in terms

:59:30. > :59:34.of trying to take them on. Eilidh Doyle in lane nine, Colin. I guess

:59:35. > :59:41.the only thing that can happen to Eilidh Doyle is something can go

:59:42. > :59:47.horribly wrong. We saw it with Little. You cannot slow down or take

:59:48. > :59:53.it easy. Yes, you don't want to mess about because you want to get into

:59:54. > :59:58.that rhythm. It has been a long time since the final Diamond League race

:59:59. > :00:04.for them so you need to get into the competition atmosphere, get a feel

:00:05. > :00:09.for the track and the turns. When to push it and change down. So they are

:00:10. > :00:16.doing a good job in delivering their stride pattern is early.

:00:17. > :00:25.Eilidh Doyle is one of those people we can rely on, when she gets her

:00:26. > :00:30.stride pattern right, she's very confident with it. Holds her form

:00:31. > :00:36.well. Runs off the barriers well. That's what you want to do in this

:00:37. > :00:39.event, conserve energy and get a good rhythm, good timing. That is

:00:40. > :00:51.enough for a lean now, our team captain. Back to the hammer. Anita

:00:52. > :00:57.Wlodarczyk took the lead in the fourth round. It is her birthday

:00:58. > :01:04.tomorrow. She looks en route to take gold here. Looking to extend her

:01:05. > :01:11.lead. She is more on balance now, but still not perfect. Look at that.

:01:12. > :01:18.The Gold line will be shifted down the field slightly. She's not happy,

:01:19. > :01:23.is she? Doesn't look quite in control of her body parts. You see

:01:24. > :01:29.her falling sideways and release. Wlodarczyk. The cream rose to the

:01:30. > :01:42.top in the fourth round. In the lead. We conceive there, Eilidh

:01:43. > :01:50.Doyle's time. She's through safely. She's with Phil now. Well done. Tell

:01:51. > :01:54.me how it felt when you were in the outside lane there. You had to set

:01:55. > :02:01.your own tempo and not worry about what was going on inside of you. You

:02:02. > :02:08.have to stick to your own race anyway, with your rhythm and your

:02:09. > :02:15.stride pattern. Coming into the home straight, I eased off a little bit

:02:16. > :02:23.too much. Need to focus on tomorrow. You are team captain, and added

:02:24. > :02:28.responsibility. It has been great. Hopefully I will go into tomorrow

:02:29. > :02:33.and lead by example. What about having to step it up tomorrow. Such

:02:34. > :02:37.a tough competition, with the Americans particularly strong. Yes,

:02:38. > :02:42.you could run a PB and not make the final. As long as I can leave it all

:02:43. > :02:51.on the track tomorrow, I'll be happy. We wish you well. Sophie

:02:52. > :02:57.Hitchon there, staying warm ahead of her last throw in the hammer. She's

:02:58. > :03:09.in seventh place at the moment, with a best of 71.80. He was very

:03:10. > :03:14.animated last, her coach, as Sophie through a British record in the last

:03:15. > :03:20.round. She's going to have to do similar here in the final. All of

:03:21. > :03:26.her throws so far have been very similar indeed. She's found a rhythm

:03:27. > :03:32.that she almost needs to step out off, and find something bigger and

:03:33. > :03:44.better. Silver medal at the moment is cop prop.

:03:45. > :03:55.Wang is in silver medal position behind Wlodarczyk of Poland. Quiet

:03:56. > :04:02.and tidy as she turned in to that. Wang put together a very impressive

:04:03. > :04:12.series. Five throws. Looks like another improvement. No improvement

:04:13. > :04:18.for Wang of China. Stays in the second place. Tense moments for

:04:19. > :04:26.Sophie Hitchon. The coach plays a part. What can she do? She's

:04:27. > :04:34.stepping into the circle. A personal best of 74 metres. She needs to

:04:35. > :04:40.break the British record by 22 centimetres. I think Sophie Hitchon

:04:41. > :04:48.is capable of this. Year-on-year, she has improved her personal best.

:04:49. > :04:56.This is it. This is tension. One of the biggest moments of her throwing

:04:57. > :05:02.life. 26 years of age. Support from the home crowd in a World

:05:03. > :05:11.Championships. She will have dreams of this moment.

:05:12. > :05:20.It's a better throw, is it? It is, but it's shy of that bronze medal

:05:21. > :05:30.line. Unfortunately, on this occasion. She knows the bronze was

:05:31. > :05:37.out of reach. A better throw, a better rhythm. She's chasing the

:05:38. > :05:45.bronze medal line, which is Malwina Kopron of Poland. Beyond her British

:05:46. > :05:52.record. It was her best throw, but doesn't improve her position. The

:05:53. > :05:58.work is done. She's in seventh. It's all over. Enormous disappointment

:05:59. > :06:04.for Sophie Hitchon after her efforts in Rio. Here is Meghan Beesley,

:06:05. > :06:16.going in the final heat of the women's 400 metre hurdles. Claxton

:06:17. > :06:21.goes on the inside, of Puerto Rico. Montcalm, three times the Canadian

:06:22. > :06:30.champion. Not this year. Sage Watson took it from her. Sprunger, good

:06:31. > :06:38.progress this year. Ran 54.29 at the Diamond League meeting in Lausanne.

:06:39. > :06:50.Whyte, the Jamaican champion. Massive progress from her this year.

:06:51. > :06:58.She's come down to 54.29. Pedroso, the Cuban who runs now for Italy.

:06:59. > :07:03.Four to go through automatically. Meghan Beesley may be chasing a

:07:04. > :07:16.fastest loser spot. The final first-round heat of the

:07:17. > :07:19.women's 400 metres hurdles. Meghan Beesley has had injuries over the

:07:20. > :07:30.last few years, but goes out very quickly. Beesley going out so, so

:07:31. > :07:36.fast. Whyte hits the barrier and upsets her stride pattern. Iuel has

:07:37. > :07:44.a lot of ground to make down the inside. Beesley in a good position.

:07:45. > :07:49.Head is starting to drop a little bit, but Beesley in a good position

:07:50. > :08:01.in the home straight. Does she have the strength after missing Quelle

:08:02. > :08:08.Beesley trying to hold on for the fourth automatic place. Whyte coming

:08:09. > :08:14.through. It's Sprunger, Nathanial and Whyte. Beesley run out of the

:08:15. > :08:19.fourth automatic qualifying place. Lea Sprunger judged it well because

:08:20. > :08:25.she started slowly but came through in the latter stages. There's no

:08:26. > :08:29.hiding place if you are not able to do training, not just in months but

:08:30. > :08:36.in years, and Meghan Beesley didn't have that. That's one of the for

:08:37. > :08:41.poor Meghan Beesley. But she will not give up. She's a fighter. She

:08:42. > :08:51.gave it all. The problem was she had to spend a lot of time recovering.

:08:52. > :08:58.Her time has come up as 56.41. She might go through as one of the

:08:59. > :09:06.fastest losers. Inside lane, Sprunger. She had a really nice,

:09:07. > :09:12.steady pace. She didn't really worry or stress. She knew the quality of

:09:13. > :09:18.the field. Nobody was inside her, everybody was outside her. She could

:09:19. > :09:26.pick people up. A good performance by Sprunger. Competent coming

:09:27. > :09:32.through. Let's have a look at Meghan Beesley. She hasn't had the

:09:33. > :09:39.opportunities to put as much work as she wanted to recently, especially

:09:40. > :09:45.into the technical side of this event. This is crucial. She checked

:09:46. > :09:49.back there, but she doesn't give up, knowing there's an opportunity to

:09:50. > :09:55.progress to the next round a fastest loser. That was the great thing to

:09:56. > :10:01.see that you do when right to the finish. That has got you through in

:10:02. > :10:07.the end. I can't believe that. Scraping through this season right

:10:08. > :10:12.at the very end. I qualified two weeks ago. Hopefully, tomorrow I can

:10:13. > :10:16.come back and run something I'm pleased with. Andrew was saying in

:10:17. > :10:20.commentary how difficult it is when you haven't got that work in the

:10:21. > :10:26.back and you have to deliver a performance. It's great to have a

:10:27. > :10:32.crowd in the stadium. I've forgotten what it's like to compete, because I

:10:33. > :10:36.had so long off. I've got another opportunity now to show you what I'm

:10:37. > :10:45.made of. Well done getting through. Thank you. All the effort coming

:10:46. > :10:49.down the home straight was worth it, because Meghan Beesley has gone

:10:50. > :10:54.through as the last of the fastest losers. It's so difficult in the 400

:10:55. > :10:58.metres hurdle when you are just missing that rhythm. But she will go

:10:59. > :11:12.through to tomorrow's semifinals. That's how they finished here. A

:11:13. > :11:21.great run from Nathaniel, a big personal best for the Nigerian.

:11:22. > :11:30.Pedroso and Beesley going through as fastest losers. Sophie Hitchon

:11:31. > :11:35.fighting back the tears as she exited the hammer cage after her

:11:36. > :11:44.final throw. It was a better throw, but only enough for seventh place on

:11:45. > :11:50.this occasion. Feeling for Sophie. Dreams of more after bronze last

:11:51. > :11:56.summer in the Olympics. Only two throws remain. Malwina Kopron is in

:11:57. > :12:02.bronze medal position, behind her team-mate, Wlodarczyk, in gold, and

:12:03. > :12:07.Wang of China. That will not count. It will be measured, but it's no

:12:08. > :12:13.improvement. She's very pleased with her medal. What a lovely reaction

:12:14. > :12:20.from the young Polish athlete. Hammer is such a big event in

:12:21. > :12:29.Poland. Masses of success, mainly through Anita Wlodarczyk. Malwina

:12:30. > :12:37.Kopron and Wlodarczyk, they have finished their competitions. But the

:12:38. > :12:42.competition isn't over. Kopron is guaranteed bronze, but Wlodarczyk is

:12:43. > :12:52.not guaranteed gold, because of the Chinese athlete.

:12:53. > :13:05.She needs a lifetime best here. It is a big draw and a big cheer. But

:13:06. > :13:13.it's shy. Wlodarczyk turns her back. I think she knew that it was too

:13:14. > :13:18.much for Wang. Wlodarczyk begins her celebrations of taking another

:13:19. > :13:22.global title. Twice Olympic champion, now three times world

:13:23. > :13:32.champion. Three times champion of Europe. So it is Poland gold and

:13:33. > :13:44.silver. China takes the silver. Good throw in the last round for Wang.

:13:45. > :13:49.Confirmed as the silver medallist. Wlodarczyk, a slightly imperfect

:13:50. > :13:54.competition, but it was enough for gold. Celebrations begin in the

:13:55. > :13:56.Polish camp. It's the first medal to be decided in this evening's

:13:57. > :14:15.session. COMMENTATOR: Laura Muir doing what

:14:16. > :14:24.she does best. She is a class above everybody else, for me. Oh, my Word!

:14:25. > :14:28.She has smashed the British record. This is a display of distance

:14:29. > :14:40.running as it is very best. She has a chance to make history. And it is

:14:41. > :14:47.about one hour 35 minutes away from that. 9:50pm, the last event on the

:14:48. > :14:51.track tonight. It is a loaded final. Paula Radcliffe is back in the

:14:52. > :14:57.studio. We will talk about that shortly. Let's just reflect on that

:14:58. > :15:02.hammer competition. Sophie Hitchon would have had to better her PB by

:15:03. > :15:08.20 centimetres to get onto the rostrum. It didn't seem to be her

:15:09. > :15:14.day-to-day. She threw a qualifying throw with ease, but didn't get near

:15:15. > :15:19.that today. It was a strange competition. All of the girls were

:15:20. > :15:24.down on their performances. You can see how bitterly disappointed she

:15:25. > :15:29.is. It breaks your heart to see her like that. She knows that when you

:15:30. > :15:36.come into a competition healthy, ready and on your game, but then not

:15:37. > :15:41.deliver, it is so hard to take. She looked so confident with her first

:15:42. > :15:46.throw. Her warm up throw looked good, and then she just plateaued.

:15:47. > :15:50.She seemed relaxed, and sometimes you cannot put your finger on it. I

:15:51. > :15:56.don't know what happened between the warm up and now. We saw it with

:15:57. > :16:03.Katarina Johnson-Thompson. You make mistakes. Holly Bradshaw as well.

:16:04. > :16:07.She made those mistakes, and they really hurt. It will be interesting

:16:08. > :16:16.to hear what she's got to say, and reflect on where it went wrong.

:16:17. > :16:38.I'm not sure she's ready to speak. Is she? Yes, she is. I was saying

:16:39. > :16:43.composed yourself first, I know it is an emotional night for you and

:16:44. > :16:49.you gave it your all, just not your night tonight. Yes, I just couldn't

:16:50. > :16:55.quite find the rhythm I had in qualification. I'm just

:16:56. > :17:09.disappointed, I have not produced it tonight. Tell me about the

:17:10. > :17:18.experience here, winning the bronze medal. It probably adds to the

:17:19. > :17:21.pressure in a way. Yes, I am just disappointed I couldn't do it for

:17:22. > :17:25.the crowd. Tell me about the psychology of what the other women

:17:26. > :17:30.are doing. You know in your last round you have got to throw a

:17:31. > :17:34.British record just to get into the medals but you know you have done

:17:35. > :17:39.that before. Yes, I knew I was in better shape than that, I showed it

:17:40. > :17:44.in qualification but it didn't click for me today and I'm really

:17:45. > :17:49.disappointed. Your coach has always talked about five, six-year plan.

:17:50. > :17:56.Your best is not right here and now, it is to come. Does that help soothe

:17:57. > :18:00.the situation? Right now I don't think so, maybe in a few weeks.

:18:01. > :18:07.That's why we compete and everyone else did better than me today. Thank

:18:08. > :18:13.you for talking to us, I know it's an emotional night. All the best,

:18:14. > :18:18.Sophie. Apologies if perhaps you felt we should have given her

:18:19. > :18:22.another beat there but she bravely stood up and spoke to us and the

:18:23. > :18:27.emotion was heightened and very raw. Let's get back outside because the

:18:28. > :18:32.hurdles are set, they have been for the 400m women's hurdles so it is

:18:33. > :18:42.time for the men and Andrew Cotter will call the first race.

:18:43. > :19:15.This is how they line up. The news is that Barr has succumbed to the

:19:16. > :19:21.vomiting bug. Lahoulou is there fore the man on the outside. The Polish

:19:22. > :19:27.champion made the final in Moscow a couple of years ago. His season best

:19:28. > :19:42.has not gone below 49 seconds this year though.

:19:43. > :19:49.Santos, familiar name, younger brother of Santos who took silver in

:19:50. > :20:13.the Olympics five years ago. Mowatt with a new personal best this

:20:14. > :20:18.season. Coroller of France, the junior champion a couple of years

:20:19. > :20:39.ago. Hasn't quite kicked on that amazing talent as 17-year-old.

:20:40. > :20:50.Lahoulou of Nigeria on the outside, no Thomas Barr, he has had to pull

:20:51. > :20:51.out. Two to go through automatically, and the two fastest

:20:52. > :21:20.losers over the semifinals. Clement may be one of the favourites

:21:21. > :21:24.for the fastest qualifications. Long stride carrying him forward and

:21:25. > :21:35.Clement looking down at the moment. Decent run from Lahoulou on the

:21:36. > :21:40.outside. Mowatt tends to pick things up in the second half of the race.

:21:41. > :21:52.It is the hugely talented Norwegian youngster in the front, Warholm

:21:53. > :21:56.clear, but being chased hard now I Santos. Clement the Olympic champion

:21:57. > :22:07.is coming through like a train. It is Clement who takes the victory,

:22:08. > :22:10.judged perfectly. He kept his fans and follow was wondering there a

:22:11. > :22:15.little bit but those who watch him regularly knows he tends to finish

:22:16. > :22:20.quickly. Judge did well, takes the victory and moves through to the

:22:21. > :22:27.final on Wednesday. Clement looks calm, knows exactly what he can do,

:22:28. > :22:31.the champion on many occasions. This occasion, he has experienced it. He

:22:32. > :22:36.will be watching the field thinking, I will put my foot down when I feel

:22:37. > :22:41.like it. Highly talented, a good sprinter as well. When you know this

:22:42. > :22:43.event and your opponent, you can judge the race perfectly and that's

:22:44. > :22:58.exactly what Clement has done. So, the action coming thick and fast

:22:59. > :23:08.as it always doors on day for but we are building up to the last event on

:23:09. > :23:18.the track tonight, the women's 1,500m final. Laura Wakeman has

:23:19. > :23:23.qualified for the final as well, but the field is littered. Your notes in

:23:24. > :23:27.front of you, normally you are putting lines through things which

:23:28. > :23:29.are very important for significant achievements and it is just

:23:30. > :23:38.achievement, achievements, achievement. Yes, I have stars by

:23:39. > :23:41.the main ones, it is double stars and triple stars. It is so

:23:42. > :24:03.intriguing the way it will be run because Custer -- Caster Semenya is

:24:04. > :24:16.the favourite, and Laura Muir so I cannot see who else could take that

:24:17. > :24:22.on. Ore Oduba is there and he has someone who knows Laura well.

:24:23. > :24:27.Callum looks so comfortable here and I am shivering in my boots! Let's

:24:28. > :24:32.talk about Laura because you had words with her this evening, how is

:24:33. > :24:39.she feeling tonight? She's feeling ready for it. Just doing her own

:24:40. > :24:45.thing and thinking about herself. And you will be there cheering for

:24:46. > :24:49.her. Like you, she's the future of British athletics but she has an

:24:50. > :24:53.opportunity to put herself on the world stage. Absolutely and if she

:24:54. > :24:58.does get a medal it will be some race. It is absolutely stacked, I

:24:59. > :25:03.think four or five girls that could win it depending on what happens.

:25:04. > :25:10.Absolutely, we will be rooting for her and next year it could be a big

:25:11. > :25:12.one for Scottish athletes, yourself included, looking forward to the

:25:13. > :25:19.Commonwealth Games. That is a big one for you. Yes, hopefully I can

:25:20. > :25:24.get a medal this time and not fall short. I was talking with Paula

:25:25. > :25:27.after you finished the marathon in fourth place on Sunday and

:25:28. > :25:32.immediately afterwards there is the disappointment that you were so

:25:33. > :25:38.close to a medal but have you put it into perspective? Disappointment is

:25:39. > :25:43.slowly leaving but it is still there. It's the fact I could see

:25:44. > :25:48.them with 20 metres to go, just there in the distance. If you had

:25:49. > :25:53.told me a year ago I would be fourth in the World Championships, I would

:25:54. > :25:57.have bet your hand off but it is still disappointing. I'm sure he

:25:58. > :26:03.will turn that into positive energy for Laura Muir in that stadium right

:26:04. > :26:09.now. I need more layers, this guy has three, he knows what he's

:26:10. > :26:14.talking about. Thank you, and just time for me to chat to Michael

:26:15. > :26:25.Johnson about the 200m heats. If we could just clear up heat seven's

:26:26. > :26:34.disqualification. Aaron Brown of Canada and Munyai of South Africa.

:26:35. > :26:40.Yes, you can see the young South African there, both online there and

:26:41. > :26:53.once you get on the line it is hard to get off, most guys won't even

:26:54. > :26:58.know they are on it. Now Aaron is coming back to the right and they

:26:59. > :27:01.are both all over the place. That is an automatic disqualification. Both

:27:02. > :27:05.of them will have gained an advantage from running on the line

:27:06. > :27:12.and in the inside and therefore both have been disqualified. Brown was

:27:13. > :27:15.not really in there as a major factor.

:27:16. > :27:19.The potential finalists and obviously disappointing for Canada

:27:20. > :27:25.to lose him certainly. This means that other people have qualified

:27:26. > :27:31.because of it but van Niekerk in his heat came second, didn't he? He did

:27:32. > :27:35.come second to Danny Talbot but both, once they knew they had been

:27:36. > :27:47.clear of the rest of the field, they both relaxed and sort of eye

:27:48. > :27:51.communication of we have got this. Van Niekerk looking very relaxed but

:27:52. > :27:58.earlier we saw Danny Talbot running extremely well with a personal best

:27:59. > :28:05.on the outside lane. Van Niekerk saying slowdown, I don't want to run

:28:06. > :28:08.this hard, and Danny saying, I do! He got into the semifinal, and I

:28:09. > :28:15.will shake your hand after this is over but right now I'm going to

:28:16. > :28:22.focus on the finishing line. And to clear up Isaac Makwala has food

:28:23. > :28:26.poisoning, which means that if he produces a doctor 's note he can

:28:27. > :28:30.compete in the 400m and it turns out that one of the hotels in particular

:28:31. > :28:35.that the athletes are staying in, there have been seven cases of food

:28:36. > :28:38.poisoning, five have gone to hospital, and reports of another

:28:39. > :28:45.hotel having food poisoning as well so if he has got food poisoning his

:28:46. > :28:50.not going to feel very good about those 400m. We are going over now to

:28:51. > :28:55.BBC One. We have plenty more great action for you on the track, the

:28:56. > :28:59.men's 400m qualifications continue and we are building up in one hour

:29:00. > :29:01.and 20 minutes to Laura
