:00:15. > :00:19.Welcome to the World Athletics Championships, thank you for joining

:00:20. > :00:26.us on BBC Two and if you have not been with us, you have just missed

:00:27. > :00:32.the final of the Gerashchenko, and that was won by Ramil Guliyev. That

:00:33. > :00:43.was possibly going to be redemption for Isaac Makwala or Van Niekerk but

:00:44. > :00:53.Guliyev, what a great run from him and what a great championship, 20.9.

:00:54. > :00:57.It was a fascinating race. It was just too much for Issac Luke one,

:00:58. > :01:03.the last two days had taken it out of him. And Van Niekerk looked like

:01:04. > :01:08.his attempt at the double had taken it out of him? It was always going

:01:09. > :01:16.to be a big risk and he seemed to be quite heavy with his silver medal.

:01:17. > :01:20.This was a race and a half, there was no big distances in these

:01:21. > :01:26.championships between the eight runners and it was the same here.

:01:27. > :01:29.Guliyev coming through the centre lane, he was the most relaxed

:01:30. > :01:36.towards the end and snatched that medal. Fantastic race, we wanted a

:01:37. > :01:43.close competition. Lots of men eagerly matched and one thing people

:01:44. > :01:50.will say looking at this is The Times were not very impressive and

:01:51. > :01:57.they were not running against any wind so the standard of the 200

:01:58. > :02:03.metres has gone down. And with Usain Bolt not there, both Jamaicans did

:02:04. > :02:09.not factor, there was no Gatlin, the grass is not in these championships,

:02:10. > :02:18.that did create a very close race and the guys were easily matched and

:02:19. > :02:22.I feel bad for Makwala, both races yesterday, he looked good but that

:02:23. > :02:27.takes its toll when you have to run both of them on the same day and

:02:28. > :02:36.then come back. He had a great start and fatigue sets in. The opposite is

:02:37. > :02:39.Wayde van Niekerk, he looked horrible yesterday, people that they

:02:40. > :02:44.should have closed the door on him yesterday and he barely got in and

:02:45. > :02:49.he gets the silver medal so he found something to be able to get back

:02:50. > :02:53.into this and he had a pretty good start. He was leading this for a

:02:54. > :02:59.while. But he started to fade because of the 400 metres rounds

:03:00. > :03:04.that he had to run earlier in the week. And Jereem Richards with the

:03:05. > :03:15.bronze medal, by one 100th of the second behind Van Niekerk. Young

:03:16. > :03:20.talent with a bright future. They will get comfortably underneath 20

:03:21. > :03:25.seconds. Mitchell-Blake, there was fatigue from the season that

:03:26. > :03:31.prohibited him being able to duplicate that 19 seconds he could

:03:32. > :03:35.accomplish earlier in the season as a personal best but he has some

:03:36. > :03:40.great championship experience, running in the US and that is a

:03:41. > :03:45.great atmosphere to compete in and fourth place is fantastic. In recent

:03:46. > :03:52.championships, Great Britain have had quite a few near misses in the

:03:53. > :04:01.200 metres. Hughes and 2015. Adam Gemili. Different names but

:04:02. > :04:07.Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake will be the name that can push on. It was weird

:04:08. > :04:12.seeing this race without Usain Bolt and the standard dipped a little

:04:13. > :04:18.bit. And it will not come back soon but that is fine, I don't care about

:04:19. > :04:23.The Times as long as I can see some tight races like this and quality

:04:24. > :04:30.races. And that is what you will see in the next couple of years.

:04:31. > :04:35.Championships in 19.9, 19.8. Maybe even 19.6 because some people are

:04:36. > :04:43.going to be capable of that. But you will not see The Times of Usain

:04:44. > :04:54.Bolt. A little bird said to me, do you know that Michael Johnson's

:04:55. > :04:59.doubles were unbelievable. 19.7, you were able to reproduce those times

:05:00. > :05:04.with a double, why is it so difficult for these guys? Most

:05:05. > :05:11.people do not train for the double and Makwala fell into it, he ran 200

:05:12. > :05:19.metres very fast and he is built for that. I think Van Niekerk, 2015, he

:05:20. > :05:24.won the World Championship, his first World Championship and was

:05:25. > :05:27.taken off back the track on a stretcher and he talked about

:05:28. > :05:38.fatigue and was hating to run the 400, then you probably hate training

:05:39. > :05:42.for 400 and then take the 400 and is training and it is exponentially

:05:43. > :05:47.harder when you say you will run that at the World Championship and

:05:48. > :05:52.back that up with 200, you have a lot of short rest volume training

:05:53. > :05:56.and lactic acid is building up on a daily basis and when that is the

:05:57. > :06:03.case, you can accomplish the double but without that training you

:06:04. > :06:07.cannot. 22 years since this man did the double and it will be some time

:06:08. > :06:15.before Van gets another crack. We can hear from Nethaneel

:06:16. > :06:18.Mitchell-Blake. Looking back at the replay, and you realise you are

:06:19. > :06:29.fourth in the world. What is going through your mind? First of all, I

:06:30. > :06:34.am glad to get the medal, -- I was not good enough on the day. You came

:06:35. > :06:41.into the final tonight, where you looking at the medals? I wanted to

:06:42. > :06:48.win. I focused on winning my race, executing my own race but I left it

:06:49. > :06:54.all on the track today, I guess I will look back on this down the line

:06:55. > :07:01.but fourth place, it was just not enough. This is all relatively new

:07:02. > :07:06.for you but you must be so proud from last year until now, you look

:07:07. > :07:12.like you belong on this stage? I learned a lot last year, big

:07:13. > :07:20.learning curve, and you have to learn the hard way, I learned the

:07:21. > :07:24.hard way last year, full credit to my coach, and people that allow me

:07:25. > :07:30.to train and come over and they make it very easy. I encourage everybody

:07:31. > :07:40.to get active, it is a great summer, Great Britain, it is possible.

:07:41. > :07:44.Tremendous effort to be fourth in the world and it will only get

:07:45. > :07:49.better. And I would like to say thank you to the crowd, they were

:07:50. > :07:55.amazing. Great interview from Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake, if this

:07:56. > :08:02.has inspired you, go to the BBC Sport website. And think about that,

:08:03. > :08:07.in that moment, that was quite impressive from the young man.

:08:08. > :08:13.Britain has better facilities than ever before, especially for

:08:14. > :08:18.athletics, in some parts of the country, but all of them, but it

:08:19. > :08:25.takes more than just facilities, it is about attitude and stepping up.

:08:26. > :08:29.Christian Taylor, his training group, in the training groups, it is

:08:30. > :08:35.Olympic and world champions, Dafne Schippers, it is the environment and

:08:36. > :08:41.how that brings out the best in you. Every day on the track. He clearly

:08:42. > :08:48.has that mentality, he did not try to sneak the medal, he was aiming

:08:49. > :08:53.high? He went there to do the best he could, let the chips fall, fourth

:08:54. > :09:00.place was a good finish. We can hear from the world champion,

:09:01. > :09:05.Johnson-Thompson is with us. Can you put in towards what this gold medal

:09:06. > :09:16.means to you? I am so tired. But I made it. I made it. I believe if you

:09:17. > :09:23.want something so much, you will make it, yes. When you have done the

:09:24. > :09:31.lap of honour like that, any thoughts on your mind? All the hard

:09:32. > :09:43.work and sacrifice? It is going so hard. Many races. You need to make

:09:44. > :09:48.your job. If you make it all... You can say you made the maximum, if

:09:49. > :09:56.something went wrong, it is bad. And I made it all. What was the first

:09:57. > :10:04.feeling when you crossed the line and you realised you had one? First,

:10:05. > :10:10.was I first, second or third because when you are running you can see to

:10:11. > :10:17.the left and the right, you look in front, and your run and maximum. And

:10:18. > :10:23.you got the gold, congratulations. You mentioned it was slow, the

:10:24. > :10:30.slowest since 1983, Calvert Smith. That gives Turkey their first medal

:10:31. > :10:37.in these championships, yet another nation stepping onto the medal

:10:38. > :10:44.table. It really is incredible. The United States well out in front at

:10:45. > :10:48.the top of the table. Kenya will at the top in Beijing and they are

:10:49. > :10:52.languishing behind the United States, and South Africa behind that

:10:53. > :10:57.and Jamaica, we would expect them to be near the top, they are in ninth

:10:58. > :11:02.place and Great Britain trust without gold medal from Mo Farah but

:11:03. > :11:10.there are a few days left, the relays still to come and some great

:11:11. > :11:20.performances. That was the fourth fourth! Come on, Great Britain! It

:11:21. > :11:25.has not in any way detracted from the enjoyment of these

:11:26. > :11:34.championships. Not at all! Well, not for you! It has been fantastic for

:11:35. > :11:39.the US. I expected the US not to do as well but they are on fire. Medals

:11:40. > :11:45.in places I did not expect the big crowd is fantastic, they love it, we

:11:46. > :11:49.see them every night on the way to the hotel and everybody is loving

:11:50. > :11:56.these jumping chips. Good stuff. Wonderful evening. We move on to the

:11:57. > :12:08.eighth day but before that, we go outside, I can hear the crimes, or a

:12:09. > :12:13.do-gooder must have just said hello. -- Ore must have said hello! Last

:12:14. > :12:18.night people could not get home quick enough because of the rain but

:12:19. > :12:26.tonight, we cannot keep them away! Say hello, some! Keep cheering! They

:12:27. > :12:34.have got flags. You have the camera the wrong way around, let us have a

:12:35. > :12:41.selfie. Live television! You're all on television! Say hello! They are

:12:42. > :12:47.like caged animals! It is lovely to have them and we had Sam ready in

:12:48. > :12:53.case Colin Jackson was not here in time but he is, like an absolute

:12:54. > :13:01.pro! You had a lot of stick yesterday for wearing a plain, black

:13:02. > :13:10.chopper. He is wearing his number ones today. What is that? Your best

:13:11. > :13:18.clothes! I am the only person here who has not done Strictly Come

:13:19. > :13:23.Dancing! We can reveal live that the fifth contestant on Strictly Come

:13:24. > :13:26.Dancing is... Not Tony! There is always next year! Great to have you

:13:27. > :13:32.here and the crowd. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

:13:33. > :13:39.They will be featuring throughout the evening. Straight to the action.

:13:40. > :13:42.We will focus on Laura Miller and on Monday, that agonising fourth place

:13:43. > :13:46.in the 1500 metres and she was back with the 5K, Steve Cram and Brendan

:13:47. > :14:03.Foster doing the talking. Laura Muir is looking tired. She can

:14:04. > :14:09.surely raise her game over the last 200, tracking back inside. This'll

:14:10. > :14:19.be long and hard, she is looking hard. Obiri, then that gap. I fear

:14:20. > :14:30.for Laura Muir, Kiprotich is coming along. Kiprotich goes past Laura

:14:31. > :14:35.Muir. She has to keep going and hope that second is not as quick. Very

:14:36. > :14:44.tired Laura Muir are coming in. She is going to finish seventh, the

:14:45. > :14:59.winning time 14.56. Anxious wait. I think only five are going to go

:15:00. > :15:05.through automatically. Mccolgan is at the back of the group, she is

:15:06. > :15:11.holding on. In sixth place now, with five qualifying. She would have a

:15:12. > :15:17.bit of a chance to go through as the fastest loser but she would want to

:15:18. > :15:22.concentrate here. Mccolgan, can she so the pace over the last 200 metres

:15:23. > :15:28.that we've seen before? Closing in slightly on the leader, Huddle.

:15:29. > :15:36.Mccolgan is sixth. She's working on it. Huddle has some life in her legs

:15:37. > :15:48.but the gap is closing. Mccolgan is trying to get there alongside the

:15:49. > :15:52.Kenyan athletes, Kipkemboi. Only five go through. Huddle may be

:15:53. > :16:02.spent, Hassan passing her. Mccolgan is there. Hoolahan for the United

:16:03. > :16:11.States. Hassan will qualify. Five from six people here, dipping for

:16:12. > :16:17.the line. Mccolgan goes through. The Norwegian will go through with that

:16:18. > :16:23.time. STUDIO: That first 5000 metres heat that Laura Muir featured in was

:16:24. > :16:27.seriously fast and the girl was pushed to her limits, she was on the

:16:28. > :16:34.floor for about 15 seconds regaining her composure. Pushed as far as she

:16:35. > :16:40.could go, after the 1500. I think that was her first 5000 outdoors all

:16:41. > :16:47.season. Jele legs, running three miles there. Credit to her, through

:16:48. > :16:51.to the final. I like that she stuck to her game. Everyone was saying,

:16:52. > :16:56.don't do it, you've had injury, but she wanted to do the 15th and the

:16:57. > :17:01.five K and I'm glad she's done to it and is in the final. It can build on

:17:02. > :17:06.what she has planned for the future. Interesting that she said afterwards

:17:07. > :17:11.that despite being so shattered, she regained her composure, she said I'm

:17:12. > :17:17.all right, Quercus loser, I'll be there for the final. Mccolgan as

:17:18. > :17:27.well, personal best. Fantastic effort. Two Scots flying the flag

:17:28. > :17:32.there. Superb. Good pedigree. Congratulations to Andy Young, the

:17:33. > :17:38.coach of Laura Muir. She didn't even realise how fast she was going! She

:17:39. > :17:42.said she didn't realise the 15 minute pace. That's a good sign I

:17:43. > :17:46.think. You could tell that she was in it, she was racing, doing what is

:17:47. > :17:52.necessary to get to the final and she got a PB. Great stuff. Says a

:17:53. > :18:02.lot about the London Stadium crowd, pushing on the home favourite.

:18:03. > :18:08.Congratulations to Laura Muir. Even cheering the slow ones here! It was

:18:09. > :18:09.a fast show including the highly anticipated women's 200 metres. Here

:18:10. > :18:25.is the story of the semifinals. Silence then cheering from 60,000

:18:26. > :18:29.people. Schippers powering away. Stevens just waving that arm. Look

:18:30. > :18:35.at Schippers, she got half a metre away from Stevens. Looking around

:18:36. > :18:39.already, in periods, comfortable, moving towards the final. Strolling

:18:40. > :18:49.over the line. Stevens in second place. Safely away this time.

:18:50. > :18:53.Miller-Uibo is never the sharpest out of the blocks. They see starting

:18:54. > :19:02.quickly around the bend and so is Kambundji. Look at Kambundji. She's

:19:03. > :19:08.still trying to fight a little bit. Coming quickly, Duncan. It is these

:19:09. > :19:15.two, Miller-Uibo and Duncan and can bogey scrambling but Facey gets

:19:16. > :19:25.third. -- Kambundji scrambling. Asher-Smith is already moving well

:19:26. > :19:34.alongside Ta Lou. These three starting to separate themselves.

:19:35. > :19:39.Emmanuel has work to do. Ta Lou takes it, Asher-Smith holding on for

:19:40. > :19:45.second and she goes through. These are the qualifiers for the final.

:19:46. > :19:48.Schippers and Miller-Uibo and Ta Lou starred as the favourites, two

:19:49. > :19:58.Americans as well. Asher-Smith is in the final. Another season's Best Buy

:19:59. > :20:07.Asher-Smith, she is incredible. CHEERING

:20:08. > :20:13.They will cheer anything! We've only got so many credits. Dina

:20:14. > :20:17.Asher-Smith, you cheer her on because after the year she has had

:20:18. > :20:22.through, when she was on one foot for crying out loud and now she's in

:20:23. > :20:27.the Championship final. The bionic woman, two screws in her foot.

:20:28. > :20:30.Superb. I was a nonbeliever, I didn't think she'd get to the World

:20:31. > :20:36.Championships but she's in the final. Well done to her and her

:20:37. > :20:41.coach. Who would have called that she would be in the final of the

:20:42. > :20:44.World Championships, not just in the team? Incredible performance. I hope

:20:45. > :20:49.she appreciates what she has achieved. Hopefully she can enjoy

:20:50. > :20:54.the final tomorrow night. Dafne Schippers, looking nailed on?

:20:55. > :21:03.Incredible. I thought that could be the one, two, three there on the

:21:04. > :21:10.graphic. Schippers, it's going to take a lot to beat her. She is hot.

:21:11. > :21:12.We saw the men's 200-metre final not long ago, van Niekerk is the man

:21:13. > :21:19.many people thought would be coming out on top. We caught up with the

:21:20. > :21:23.emotional silver-medallist. Congratulations on another medal. I

:21:24. > :21:28.saw your reaction when you saw you had won the Silver, it seemed to be

:21:29. > :22:07.great delight. Some achievement. Yeah, I mean... OK?

:22:08. > :22:19.Yeah... I really feel that I worked hard for tonight. I gave it my all.

:22:20. > :22:26.And I think I've proven over and over again that I deserve what I've

:22:27. > :22:32.achieved. It was a tough week for myself. Also after the 400 metres,

:22:33. > :22:37.quite a lot of people who felt I didn't deserve it. I'm glad I could

:22:38. > :22:41.come out today and put on a good fight. I really believe this is the

:22:42. > :22:47.beginning of so much more that I can achieve. Is that where the emotions

:22:48. > :22:53.are coming from? Yeah, definitely. I worked as hard as any other

:22:54. > :22:57.competitor. I got beaten. I showed everybody else respect. I think I

:22:58. > :23:03.didn't get the respect I deserved after the 400-metre hurdles. I'm

:23:04. > :23:06.glad I came through today and put on a good show. I believe this is the

:23:07. > :23:13.beginning. There is so much more that I can provide. Like I said, it

:23:14. > :23:17.is only the beginning. I'm going to put in so much more hard work and

:23:18. > :23:22.show my dominance. Seems strange that anybody could remotely question

:23:23. > :23:26.you went as a world champion and record holder, they wouldn't see you

:23:27. > :23:33.as a worthy winner. Where were you getting that sense from? It is no

:23:34. > :23:38.secret, my finals, a lot of people felt that the results would have

:23:39. > :23:44.been the other way but I have proven everyone wrong today. Like I said,

:23:45. > :23:50.I'm going to prove it over and over again that I deserve to be where IM

:23:51. > :23:58.and what I've achieved -- where I am. And the talk the other day of

:23:59. > :24:04.the conspiracy, the IAAF conspiracy? Did you hear that and what did you

:24:05. > :24:08.think when you did? I think it is very unfair, it is not an overnight

:24:09. > :24:14.success that I've achieved, I've been coming through the rankings

:24:15. > :24:19.over the last few years. I feel that I've worked for where I am today. I

:24:20. > :24:26.guess everyone is going to be angry and people will be upset, the way

:24:27. > :24:29.things work out but this is a competition, we have come out here

:24:30. > :24:36.for one thing, medals. Congratulations on your performance.

:24:37. > :24:40.Thanks, take care. It is easy, as viewers to watch them at the top of

:24:41. > :24:43.their field and think that they go through the motions, winning medals

:24:44. > :24:49.and going home and it is a days work. Just an idea of how much it

:24:50. > :24:53.means, he does not feel he gets the respect he deserves. Interesting

:24:54. > :24:58.statement that he's made but you can understand why because people were

:24:59. > :25:02.thinking, they were favouring Makwala, that there was a conspiracy

:25:03. > :25:05.and athletes read into it, they aren't immune to the information

:25:06. > :25:12.that's out there. You could he how upset he is, that he feels he didn't

:25:13. > :25:15.get his reward. He's a brilliant athlete, he'll be one of the ones

:25:16. > :25:19.we're going to look at in the future to pick up the sport so it's quite

:25:20. > :25:26.devastating to see him there where he's so emotional about the whole

:25:27. > :25:30.thing. I hope he gets over it. That's what everybody wants to see.

:25:31. > :25:35.Not many people have been through emotions like Isaac Makwala and he

:25:36. > :25:40.spoke to Phil Jones after the race. Sixth place in the 200-metre final,

:25:41. > :25:45.I know you said to me yesterday, the 400 is your event. How would you sum

:25:46. > :25:57.up how the last few days have gone for you? By newcomer like I said

:25:58. > :26:08.before, 400 is the one that I put all my money on. 200, sometimes I go

:26:09. > :26:14.for that for speed only. I don't consider it like the 400. I never do

:26:15. > :26:19.the blocks, you know. So I'm happy, I was happy I was in the final.
