:01:27. > :01:32.A very good morning, and it is a glorious morning here in east London

:01:33. > :01:35.at the London Stadium, we have the first morning session for quite a

:01:36. > :01:40.few days now, we are not expecting the crowds to be a sell-out this

:01:41. > :01:45.morning, but there will be plenty of fans out to see the start of the

:01:46. > :01:48.decathlon, always an exciting moment, two days of gruelling

:01:49. > :01:54.action, so who better to join us on the sofa than the man himself, Daley

:01:55. > :01:59.Thompson? And it is more than just a cushion today, we have the real

:02:00. > :02:02.thing, Daley Thompson is in the house, we are delighted to see you,

:02:03. > :02:09.Denise is here as well, a multi-eventing pantheon of talent,

:02:10. > :02:13.and we are always happy to see Daley. Love seeing the legend coming

:02:14. > :02:25.into town, he brings an air of... What is the word I am looking for?

:02:26. > :02:30.Unexpected ness! What has been the highlight for you? So far the

:02:31. > :02:35.highlight has been cursed and Warholm in the men's 200m finals,

:02:36. > :02:39.two years ago he was an OK decathlete, decided he wanted to try

:02:40. > :02:46.something else, and now he is a world champion. 21 years old, the

:02:47. > :02:50.Norwegian, and he came in the studio last night and said, I think I have

:02:51. > :02:54.found my events now! Denise has talked about this as well, the

:02:55. > :03:02.multi-eventing platform, he might not end up world and Olympic

:03:03. > :03:06.champion in the decathlon, but you might find something else you can

:03:07. > :03:10.take on, and the other skills you get from competing are only going to

:03:11. > :03:14.stand you in good stead. You learn so much about yourself, your

:03:15. > :03:17.strengths and weaknesses, and because athletics is so varied,

:03:18. > :03:25.there is nearly always something else you can hook into and be good

:03:26. > :03:30.at. There is about 30 women that have done combined events, competing

:03:31. > :03:34.in single event is here, about eight or nine male athletes who have done

:03:35. > :03:40.the cat long, so it is quite varied, great to see that you can get to

:03:41. > :03:44.this level. Yeah, and if you have got a short attention span and you

:03:45. > :03:48.have got lots of things going on, it is perfect, that is what he said, he

:03:49. > :03:53.likes to keep challenging himself. Wayde van Niekerk was going for the

:03:54. > :04:00.double in the 400 under 200 coming goddess 400 a couple of nights ago,

:04:01. > :04:08.and last night was the 200m final, and he has been dominating the

:04:09. > :04:14.papers. Guliyev of Turkey won, Wayde van Niekerk got the second. Some of

:04:15. > :04:17.his comments in the papers come he feels disrespected by Isaac Makwala,

:04:18. > :04:22.who has inferred that there was some kind of conspiracy to push Van

:04:23. > :04:26.Niekerk to the top of the tree. Let's hear from Wayde van Niekerk

:04:27. > :04:34.now. I worked just as hard as every other competitor, I showed everyone

:04:35. > :04:38.else respect, and I think I didn't get the respect that I deserved

:04:39. > :04:43.after the 400m, and I am glad that I came through today and put on a good

:04:44. > :04:48.show, but like I said, I believe this is only the beginning of so

:04:49. > :04:52.much more that I can provide. Like I said, it is only the beginning, I am

:04:53. > :04:59.going to put in so much more work and show my dominance. It seems

:05:00. > :05:02.strange that anyone could remotely question you, Olympic champion,

:05:03. > :05:08.world record-holder, that they would not view you as a worthy winner,

:05:09. > :05:14.where were you that sense from? It was... It was no secret that a lot

:05:15. > :05:19.of people felt that the results should have been the other way, but

:05:20. > :05:23.I have proven everyone wrong today. Like I said, I am going to prove it

:05:24. > :05:29.over and over again, that I deserve where I am, I deserve what I have

:05:30. > :05:35.achieved, and I thank God so much again for such a great competition.

:05:36. > :05:38.So the luck as he crossed the line in the 400m, a little bit

:05:39. > :05:42.nonplussed, not a massive celebration, and we thought maybe he

:05:43. > :05:50.was feeling it would have been great to have Makwala there. Obviously, he

:05:51. > :05:54.didn't get the enjoyment out of it. Clearly, he is unhappy, but he is a

:05:55. > :05:58.great champion, I am surprised he feels that way. But when he crossed

:05:59. > :06:03.the line, he seemed a little subdued, he gave a little clap, but

:06:04. > :06:07.he didn't do a lap of honour. I don't know, there is great rivalry

:06:08. > :06:12.amongst the African nations, they have been competing together for a

:06:13. > :06:17.good few years, but no, listen, he was the favourite coming in, he

:06:18. > :06:20.delivered, he did the job. Gold and silver, he didn't complete the

:06:21. > :06:24.double, 22 years since Michael Johnson has done it, but Michael

:06:25. > :06:28.explained last night and is not just a matter of saying, I am a good

:06:29. > :06:33.forward and metres runner, I get to 280 since time, it is adjusting all

:06:34. > :06:42.your training. -- I am a good 400m runner, I get to 200m in a decent

:06:43. > :06:48.time, it is about adjusting all your training. I think Michael is right,

:06:49. > :06:50.it is a really stressful situation, and you want Abebe Lee happy

:06:51. > :06:55.afterwards, and you start getting the feeling that people are

:06:56. > :06:59.disrespecting you. -- and you want to be really happy afterwards. He

:07:00. > :07:02.has come away from here with gold and silver, and it might not be

:07:03. > :07:07.everything he wanted, but it is a really good start, and there is no

:07:08. > :07:12.reason he cannot do the double at the next major championship. It is

:07:13. > :07:17.an event rich in talent, 200 and 400, and it is a shame that Makwala

:07:18. > :07:25.is in urging the wrong side of 30, because that rivalry would be

:07:26. > :07:29.exciting going forward. But hopefully that will come from the

:07:30. > :07:35.Brit, who really pushed himself onto the podium, even gold he said he was

:07:36. > :07:40.going for. Is not a million miles away, and sometimes, as we all saw,

:07:41. > :07:45.these races can be really close. Just looking the wrong way at the

:07:46. > :07:50.wrong time, relaxing at the wrong time can slow you up by 100, and

:07:51. > :07:56.that can make all the difference. Hopefully he has learned from here,

:07:57. > :08:05.and leading up to Tokyo he will get on the podium. I was really

:08:06. > :08:09.impressed by his interview. Yes, his second major championships, still

:08:10. > :08:14.only 23, still so much to learn, you do not get to the top of the sport,

:08:15. > :08:18.some are very lucky if they do it in their first championships, but the

:08:19. > :08:21.vast majority have to learn how to navigate the rounds, deal with the

:08:22. > :08:30.situation is presented to them, the emotions. Curbing your mind is such

:08:31. > :08:34.a powerful thing, he will get there. Great runner. We will move on to the

:08:35. > :08:38.women's 400m hurdles final, which took place last night, let's relive

:08:39. > :08:54.it. Away they go, great strength in the

:08:55. > :08:59.second half of the race, the leader Mohammed is flying already, moving

:09:00. > :09:08.along so well, Eilidh Doyle with a bit of ground to make up on the

:09:09. > :09:11.inside. -- Delilah Mohammed. Good run from Kori Carter, the Americans

:09:12. > :09:25.rise almost together, Kori Carter on the inside. Muhammad, headshaking

:09:26. > :09:33.from side to side, leading them along the home straight, Kori Carter

:09:34. > :09:37.is challenging her now, Muhammad, Kori Carter it is Kori Carter who

:09:38. > :09:46.will take it, and Kori Carter, by a distance the champion from Muhammad.

:09:47. > :09:47.It is America's gold, but not the American we expected. Kori Carter is

:09:48. > :09:56.the champion. That race also finished Eilidh

:09:57. > :10:01.Doyle, the British captain, and Phil Jones spoke to her afterwards. And

:10:02. > :10:06.other world final, you would have hoped for a better result, no doubt,

:10:07. > :10:12.but with this kind of quality, it is an achievement in itself, how would

:10:13. > :10:15.you assess your season and the race? It was hard to make the final, I

:10:16. > :10:19.would have liked to have given a better account of myself in that

:10:20. > :10:23.race, but I mucked up the top bend, I was all over the place coming into

:10:24. > :10:30.the home straight. I wish I could have run a better straight part.

:10:31. > :10:34.World finals again, I cannot be too disappointed. As for your role, we

:10:35. > :10:39.have talked about it already, there has been a lot of feedback from the

:10:40. > :10:43.others, saying how inspired they are by you, the things you have been

:10:44. > :10:47.able to help with, making finals time after time, you are an

:10:48. > :10:53.inspiration, by the sounds of it. Very kind of them to say that, I am

:10:54. > :10:58.a consistent at least, I have been very lucky in terms of no real

:10:59. > :11:05.injuries or anything like that. -- I am a consistent athlete. I will keep

:11:06. > :11:09.going and see what happens. And you are not finished here, relay duties

:11:10. > :11:14.to come, the team have high hopes, what is it like a transition from

:11:15. > :11:18.this do that? It is always great, especially with my individuals not

:11:19. > :11:24.going as I would have liked them, the girls are great at lifting you

:11:25. > :11:28.up, picking you up, I hope we run well again.

:11:29. > :11:32.Yeah, Eilidh Doyle always someone who, even if her season has been

:11:33. > :11:36.fairly average, pushes herself in championships to get into those

:11:37. > :11:40.finals, but well off the pace in terms of time is coming into this

:11:41. > :11:45.compared to the top girls, so expecting a medal was a big ask.

:11:46. > :11:49.Definitely do push into the medals, but like I said yesterday, when you

:11:50. > :11:53.come to the championships and you do not run the race you would like to,

:11:54. > :11:57.you leave feeling disappointed, and she is better than what she showed

:11:58. > :12:00.in that final, so she will be bitterly disappointed with the way

:12:01. > :12:05.she ran. We expected her to get to the final, but it was the how bit

:12:06. > :12:12.that was disappointing. If anything personifies these championships so

:12:13. > :12:15.far, it is shocks, near misses, champions from Rio not performing

:12:16. > :12:20.here, and again last night there was a surprise winner in Kori Carter.

:12:21. > :12:26.Absolutely, one of the things at this championships is that there has

:12:27. > :12:30.been no incredible marks, but lots of close competitions, and I think

:12:31. > :12:34.Carter is a case in point. I don't think anyone was expecting her to

:12:35. > :12:41.win, we were expecting Muhammad to win, budget was fabulous. One of the

:12:42. > :12:46.nice about being on the outside, you want to be able to execute your

:12:47. > :12:50.stride pattern and your rhythm, and if you have got nobody to see, you

:12:51. > :12:55.can get on and do it, and she was fantastic last night. We might be

:12:56. > :12:58.having her in the studio later, hopefully we will get a chance to

:12:59. > :13:02.talk to her. Christian Taylor might be popping in, he sees itself as

:13:03. > :13:07.something of an honorary Brit, and he was out wearing his 1830 band. He

:13:08. > :13:12.didn't get close to that, but his third round jump was close enough to

:13:13. > :13:19.give him is third world title. He is such a competitor, single-minded

:13:20. > :13:23.about not only winning, but he wanted to jump really far, get that

:13:24. > :13:29.world record. But it was not meant to be, he has got his team, his mum,

:13:30. > :13:34.his dad there, and I thought this was really special, he was quite

:13:35. > :13:40.emotional after his performance. His coach there. Yes, he has been

:13:41. > :13:43.working with him for years now, taken in through to the double

:13:44. > :13:47.Olympic champion titles and now another world title. Really good

:13:48. > :13:55.scenes, very dedicated athlete, very committed. He spoke to Phil Jones

:13:56. > :14:00.afterwards. Christian, congratulations on another gold

:14:01. > :14:06.medal, your third at the World Championships, quite a competition.

:14:07. > :14:09.Yeah, Phil, it was a wonderful night, I really had big

:14:10. > :14:13.expectations, big goals, and to come out with a win is wonderful. I can

:14:14. > :14:18.never take that for granted. It was a wonderful night, adding to the

:14:19. > :14:22.medal count and coming out healthy. Will play put out a decent job

:14:23. > :14:30.early, a bit of nip and tuck between the pair of you. -- Will Claye. You

:14:31. > :14:34.always pull it out when you need to. I tried to put myself in the best

:14:35. > :14:42.position for the final, this is what we trained for, every round he said,

:14:43. > :14:46.be ready to respond. Claye's fifth jump was pretty scary, but I stayed

:14:47. > :14:53.ready, stayed alert, and I came out on top.

:14:54. > :14:58.So Jonathan Edwards' world record is safe once more, we will have to wait

:14:59. > :15:05.another day to see if he gets there to take that world record, Christian

:15:06. > :15:07.Taylor. Let's go to the women's 200m semifinals, three heats, and world

:15:08. > :15:12.champion Dafne Schippers, who got a bronze in the 100m, looking really

:15:13. > :15:19.strong in what appears to be her favoured event now. It is the event

:15:20. > :15:24.she has been doing the longest, part of the heptathlon, so we have come

:15:25. > :15:29.to expect this beautiful style from Dafne, looking so relaxed there!

:15:30. > :15:40.Just able to shut it down 60m from the line, she looks really good.

:15:41. > :15:45.Heptathlete, and the sprinting was the thing she wanted to pursue and

:15:46. > :15:50.she was a really good heptathlete. A bronze-medallist at the last World

:15:51. > :15:56.Championships. I did hear a great quote, she said, I was going to do a

:15:57. > :16:00.Dutch accent! It's great because I don't have to do so much technical

:16:01. > :16:04.training in other offence and I can focus on that, so it is much harder

:16:05. > :16:09.being a hacked athlete, she was saying. Most of us if we had the

:16:10. > :16:14.choice would be better at something else because you have to spend so

:16:15. > :16:18.much time, Dafne has grown into being one of the world's best

:16:19. > :16:23.sprinters and there is no reason she can't win tonight. You fancy her

:16:24. > :16:28.tonight to retain her title? Again, it is going to be really close. If

:16:29. > :16:32.she does a really good race, I think she can win it. Let's look at the

:16:33. > :16:40.second heat. Maybe the challenge will come from Sean a Miller who got

:16:41. > :16:45.hurt toes stumped a couple of metres from the line.

:16:46. > :16:50.Looking majestic last night. She did not come off the bend in the lead

:16:51. > :16:54.but because she has the 400m strength behind her and the speed

:16:55. > :17:00.endurance, she is able to Coast her way through the field and she took

:17:01. > :17:03.her time. She took her time and conserving energy for the final.

:17:04. > :17:10.Looking very good. And she has a point to prove now. Whatever went on

:17:11. > :17:15.in the 400, she has got to show the world that is not really her and she

:17:16. > :17:18.is a much better athlete. She said J looked up at the screen in the 400

:17:19. > :17:23.and that Forster, that tiny movement but are off-balance and she got her

:17:24. > :17:25.toes stumped. I imagine she will never look at this screen again in

:17:26. > :17:32.her life! To go from a considerable lead in

:17:33. > :17:37.the 400, it is incredible the way she moved back and not even out of

:17:38. > :17:41.gold medal but out of the medals. Nearly everybody has exhaustion with

:17:42. > :17:46.20 metres to go and if anything goes wrong and your timing goes off, you

:17:47. > :17:50.look like a lamb are learning to walk. It is really difficult. You

:17:51. > :17:56.did like to look at the screen occasionally. When I was on it! That

:17:57. > :18:01.is what I mean! Bianca Williams was in that heat as well. Not making it

:18:02. > :18:05.through, what did you make of her run? She will be disappointed. But

:18:06. > :18:10.she has done very well to come back to get to this level. A couple of

:18:11. > :18:15.pens down years but she has been running well. But she just is a

:18:16. > :18:21.couple of tenths away and she needs to stay focused.

:18:22. > :18:30.Dina Asher-Smith in this race and six months ago, she couldn't walk.

:18:31. > :18:37.And here she is. Qualifying for a final of the World Championships. It

:18:38. > :18:42.is remarkable how she has stayed level-headed and got enough work to

:18:43. > :18:46.get her to this level. I think she is looking as good. Tying a little

:18:47. > :18:49.bit here because she had to run hard because she does not know what she

:18:50. > :18:58.has got so she has to give it everything. But really good. Talou

:18:59. > :19:04.looking strong, this is going to be a good matchup.

:19:05. > :19:09.Of those, you would say Dafne Schippers was easing up the most,

:19:10. > :19:16.but that shows you what an even race it is. How long has it been since we

:19:17. > :19:20.have not taught about an American in the sprint 200? That is the other

:19:21. > :19:26.thing, so many people from so many countries seem to be picking up and

:19:27. > :19:33.winning things. It is brilliant. Is that partly a post-Olympic thing? A

:19:34. > :19:38.new settling down of the order. Is it just other countries are adopting

:19:39. > :19:44.training methods. Adopting other practices that have perhaps been the

:19:45. > :19:49.preserve of the Jamaica and the America? For too long, there has

:19:50. > :19:53.been a big head-to-head between the Americans and the Jamaicans,

:19:54. > :19:56.especially in the sprint. We have to realise the world order has changed

:19:57. > :20:01.in track and field. It is getting more balanced. We have seen that

:20:02. > :20:06.from the times. Coaches move around, athletes change their training base.

:20:07. > :20:10.I think it just makes for a much more level playing field. Every

:20:11. > :20:13.country has aspirations to get onto the board and they will do

:20:14. > :20:18.everything to make sure they do. A country like South Africa suddenly

:20:19. > :20:24.has a number of gold-medallists coming through and it is very

:20:25. > :20:27.inspiring. It is brilliant. You are right, it does inspire the other

:20:28. > :20:32.little countries. They can make a statement in the world by putting a

:20:33. > :20:36.bit of resources behind a long jumper or Pole Vault. It's great it

:20:37. > :20:43.is spreading around the world. It would be nice if we did not have so

:20:44. > :20:50.many for places, Great Britain! But our fourth positions... Am hopeful!

:20:51. > :20:54.Our fourth places have been from our younger athletes, which bodes well

:20:55. > :21:00.for the future. Absolutely, the fact they are so disappointed and really

:21:01. > :21:06.feel they have got more in them and they feel they can be is wonderful.

:21:07. > :21:08.One of those was Laura Muir in the 1500m and she was trying to qualify

:21:09. > :21:17.for the 5,000 metres final. She has not even run one this year

:21:18. > :21:23.and she had a tough challenge after that difficult 1500m and it was

:21:24. > :21:28.really quite a pain in the last 100 for her, Denise. Because she has

:21:29. > :21:33.been so successful the less two years, we used to seeing her winning

:21:34. > :21:36.and breaking and getting personal bests, and it was important the

:21:37. > :21:44.expectations were lowered for this event. She has only run two in her

:21:45. > :21:52.life. This was a tall order. She looked so tired. So tired. Bless

:21:53. > :21:54.her. On reflection, do you think we should have, she should have done

:21:55. > :22:04.both? It is a bonus now because she has

:22:05. > :22:09.got one 5K left and anything can happen as we have seen, races do not

:22:10. > :22:12.always go with the form. Just enjoy it. She is stepping up in class and

:22:13. > :22:16.moving into a place where her and her coach have never been and if you

:22:17. > :22:20.do not try it commit you will never know. And she will come away from

:22:21. > :22:30.this Championships and she will know where she is. The W normally see,

:22:31. > :22:38.especially Dame Kellie Holmes -- the double. In the second heat was

:22:39. > :22:39.Eilish McColgan. Previously a steeplechaser and riddled with

:22:40. > :22:46.injuries. No injuries this season and able to

:22:47. > :22:52.train and is delighted with her performance. It's great to see her

:22:53. > :22:56.realising that potential. It is a blessing when an athlete comes into

:22:57. > :23:03.this Championships giving their best and being at their best. This was a

:23:04. > :23:06.fantastic run from Eilish. One of the athletes that have made a

:23:07. > :23:14.stunning comeback, Stephanie Twell we know also had injuries, but not

:23:15. > :23:16.only does Eilish only have the physical challenge, she has the

:23:17. > :23:24.weight of being the daughter of a very successful British athlete in

:23:25. > :23:27.Liz McColgan. So to have that burden for some many years and stand alone

:23:28. > :23:32.in her own right is fantastic. Absolutely, well said.

:23:33. > :23:39.You had been in many teams with Liz McColgan. Down the years and she is

:23:40. > :23:45.a tough test massacre, expect. Great role model. Interesting morning

:23:46. > :23:54.coming -- a tough task master. This is what you can expect.

:23:55. > :24:00.Germany's Rico Freimuth and Damian Warner will attempt to fill the

:24:01. > :24:08.Deepcut on Boyd left by Ashton Eaton, Ashley Bryant goes for Great

:24:09. > :24:14.Britain. A British duo, 2013 bronze-medallist Tiffani Porter and

:24:15. > :24:17.Alicia Barrett, the National Champion, take to the track. The

:24:18. > :24:23.Brits will be joined by world-record holder Kendra Harrison. London 2012

:24:24. > :24:30.Champion Sally Pearson. And reigning World Champion Danielle Williams.

:24:31. > :24:36.Britain's London 2012 runs medallist Robbie Grabarz is in High Jump

:24:37. > :24:42.qualification action. Favourite to take that title is the athlete from

:24:43. > :24:53.Qatar who has the top four jumps in the world to his name this year. So

:24:54. > :25:04.things cook off with the 100m men's decathlon to stake a claim after

:25:05. > :25:09.Ashley Eaton. Followed by the discus qualification with Sandra Perkovic

:25:10. > :25:13.among those on show. The heats of the women's 100m hurdles with

:25:14. > :25:16.Britain's Tiffany Porter, a world bronze-medallist in 2013 and

:25:17. > :25:22.world-record holder, sorry, 100 hurdles. And world-record holder

:25:23. > :25:26.Kendra Harrison. Active and 's did have one for the Long Jump. And then

:25:27. > :25:36.the qualification of the men's High Jump. The second group of discus

:25:37. > :25:48.qualification gets under way at 1135 a:m.. And we end with the shot-put.

:25:49. > :25:51.A gruelling two days for those decathletes, ten events. They really

:25:52. > :25:55.put their bodies and their minds and their souls on the line and we

:25:56. > :25:59.enjoyed watching daily doing that time and time again. But let's go

:26:00. > :26:00.down memory lane and remind you how he won the very first World

:26:01. > :26:17.Championships. Daley is away, Thompson coming away

:26:18. > :26:27.on the near side and holing up -- holding up at the moment. Leading by

:26:28. > :26:32.a long margin. 10.62. A good start for daily.

:26:33. > :26:38.And that is better. That is better. What a response from the man. Can

:26:39. > :26:44.Daley get somewhere near 50 metres and 44 centimetres that we know he

:26:45. > :26:52.is capable of? Oh, yes! That is enormous from Daley!

:26:53. > :26:57.Oh, good, oh, good. Big smile, it is back again. Thompson now driving

:26:58. > :27:04.hard but they are catching him and he is tying up as they come to the

:27:05. > :27:13.line. Thompson. And Thompson, Hickson... Daley having a good one

:27:14. > :27:20.so far. A bit of a disaster for the Russian. Daley coming through. It is

:27:21. > :27:27.a good run. And Daley has run well. This would be a throw from Daley

:27:28. > :27:30.Thompson. That is nice, solid, what a good piece of throwing.

:27:31. > :27:38.The second attempt at five metres ten. Oh, he is clear!

:27:39. > :27:44.Daley needs a better cushion if he can get it. About 15 seconds to make

:27:45. > :27:50.up in that 1500m but he has thrown well, and providing he is fit... A

:27:51. > :27:56.long throw! Oh, absolutely on the nail. Putting him to the test and he

:27:57. > :28:00.comes through it every time. Daley Thompson dragging himself up to the

:28:01. > :28:03.line and he has done enough. And that is our first World Champion!

:28:04. > :28:19.And that is quite magnificent! What are you doing? The guy who is

:28:20. > :28:25.the world leader at the moment, his dad was competing against me. Rico

:28:26. > :28:29.Freimuth. So you are just checking what he is up to? No, just making

:28:30. > :28:37.sure he was there so I can attend I remembered! Great memories for you.

:28:38. > :28:42.Absolutely. It was one of my finest moments. To be at the first World

:28:43. > :28:48.Championships. And to have all the best guys in the world there, it

:28:49. > :28:53.is... Very special. But who was that guy? Did not have any grey hair! You

:28:54. > :29:00.are not looking too bad! That is what I was waiting to hear! Daley on

:29:01. > :29:05.good form, Steve Cram, as we start this to Gabon. Day one, 100m to get

:29:06. > :29:09.them going, over to you, good morning.

:29:10. > :29:19.Good morning, some of us have aged better than others since 1983. No

:29:20. > :29:27.grey hair here. First event of the morning. It is a pretty good crowd,

:29:28. > :29:35.a special day, the Olympic Stadium, get yourself ready. Just pointing

:29:36. > :29:47.out over on the far side of the stadium, the men ready, four heats.

:29:48. > :29:56.Lining up in the first. Kurt Felix from grenade, silver-medallist.

:29:57. > :30:00.Dudas a good sprinter. Thomas van der Plaetsen is a good Pole Vault to

:30:01. > :30:05.come he was third in the national championships this year. And the

:30:06. > :30:09.European champion. Good conditions, the decathletes would be delighted

:30:10. > :30:15.the weather has changed for the better over the last 24 hours, 36

:30:16. > :30:25.hours. The sun is shining, no wind in the stadium.

:30:26. > :30:35.So Tonnesen of Spain, Auzeil of France, Oiglane from Estonia,

:30:36. > :30:43.Bourrada of Algeria, Ushiro of Japan, the Japanese record-holder,

:30:44. > :30:48.Felix Dudas, Van der Plaetsen. Bourrada in lane five was fifth in

:30:49. > :30:52.Rio and Beijing after having had a two year ban, he came back in 2014.

:30:53. > :31:06.He may be the quickest here. They get away safely, Bourrada does

:31:07. > :31:10.get a good start in the middle, in the green, and Dudas going well,

:31:11. > :31:17.they are coming away from the rest, Dudas wins, Bourrada in second,

:31:18. > :31:24.10.77, it is a pretty good start for the Serbian. The last time we saw

:31:25. > :31:30.him was at the European indoors. Bronze-medallist in Amsterdam in the

:31:31. > :31:41.European Championships that were held before Rio. That is a very good

:31:42. > :31:45.start for him. Solid start, Steve, you are right, personal best of

:31:46. > :31:50.10.67. If you open your the catalogue with 10.75, you have got

:31:51. > :31:58.to be pleased. The key thing is keeping his form, trying to save as

:31:59. > :32:01.much energy as you can, nice little dip at the finish, grabbing those

:32:02. > :32:13.hundredths, hoping that it will make a difference, you never know.

:32:14. > :32:19.I was just saying to Daley, the times of the men's 100m, a bit more

:32:20. > :32:23.mixed up than the women's hurdles. The quickest women going in the very

:32:24. > :32:37.last heat, the slowest in the very first, but men like Dudas, in the

:32:38. > :32:41.next heat Santos. It is down to how they have been doing this season,

:32:42. > :32:46.some have better personal bests, it is a mix, but it doesn't matter that

:32:47. > :32:50.much, you run in your lane, you have got to focus, and the best

:32:51. > :32:59.decathletes are still going in the last heat. It is like a time trial.

:33:00. > :33:04.So a season's best from Dudas there, a good start. But when you are in

:33:05. > :33:06.the blocks, your first event of ten, are you not racing? You are

:33:07. > :33:12.literally just trying to do your own thing? Complete tunnel vision,

:33:13. > :33:16.because the place where you come in the race doesn't matter, first or

:33:17. > :33:19.last, you are just tried to get the points for the equivalent times,

:33:20. > :33:23.that is all you are doing. One of the things that was nice was Steve

:33:24. > :33:34.Cram doing some homework, I know he hates the decathlon! Of icy knew you

:33:35. > :33:39.were coming in! Clearly! Ashley Bryant has had a good year, he is in

:33:40. > :33:43.the next heat, he has got into some good positions, hasn't he? He has

:33:44. > :33:49.got it together finally, Ashley has been very frustrated with niggles

:33:50. > :33:54.here and there, he has not been able to show what he has got. So he got

:33:55. > :34:00.that lovely, wonderful silver medal at the Commonwealth Games, but this

:34:01. > :34:05.year, new personal best, 8173, and that will set him up. He will be

:34:06. > :34:09.looking to get in the top eight, it is going to be very difficult

:34:10. > :34:14.indeed, but what you don't want is to make mistakes, it is just

:34:15. > :34:19.minimising mistakes, giving yourself an opportunity. You just need to

:34:20. > :34:22.come here and get somewhere near his personal best, because whenever you

:34:23. > :34:29.come to a major championships, the one thing you have to do is be at at

:34:30. > :34:38.least you'll season's best. Olympic silver-medallist in this next heat.

:34:39. > :34:43.Apart from Ashton Eaton, he was head and shoulders, but he has been

:34:44. > :34:47.competing in a few events and competing very well. He won the

:34:48. > :34:53.European indoors this year, set a new record for heptathlon, but a

:34:54. > :35:01.very interesting individual, not one of the taller decathletes, but no

:35:02. > :35:07.weaknesses, and I think he is the person that we look to to really

:35:08. > :35:13.lead into this decathlon, really strong, he is a poster boy, in fact.

:35:14. > :35:17.Ashton Eaton has dominated for so long, somebody can step up to the

:35:18. > :35:21.plate and take the title, be the man. Do you know what? I am sure

:35:22. > :35:31.there are two or three guys who think they can, but Kevin Mayer

:35:32. > :35:39.would be my favourite from the start. You do kind of miss Ashton

:35:40. > :35:43.Eaton. Yes, but Kevin will take this forward, and you need the rivalry.

:35:44. > :35:46.And you surely will get that, back to Steve now for the final result of

:35:47. > :35:59.the first heat. Ashley Bryant just getting ready

:36:00. > :36:04.there, love listening to Daley Thompson's thoughts, I love the

:36:05. > :36:10.decathlon, especially the 1500m, the toughest of all events, of course!

:36:11. > :36:17.Just waiting for the result, Dudas was 917 points for his 10.75, so a

:36:18. > :36:24.pretty good start for him. Kurt Felix ran well also. We will just

:36:25. > :36:26.confirm it here, Bourrada with 10.8 was in second place, Van der

:36:27. > :36:33.Plaetsen, not an especially good start for the Belgian, 11.35. We

:36:34. > :36:37.might have been surprised to see Dudas run that time, but he had not

:36:38. > :36:52.run 100m this season, the seedings are done by season's best. This is

:36:53. > :36:58.how they line up in the second heat of the 100, Jefferson Santos is out,

:36:59. > :37:07.the South American champion does not start. Ashley Bryant goes in lane

:37:08. > :37:10.five. There is Ashley Bryant, based in Loughborough now, he has had a

:37:11. > :37:14.switch to his coaching setup, 18 months or so ago he went to love

:37:15. > :37:20.brat, and he works with individual coaches now, and he says he is

:37:21. > :37:28.feeling the benefit. -- he went to Loughborough. His head coach, well,

:37:29. > :37:38.he works with individual coaches in the individual events. He has moved

:37:39. > :37:45.up to... Well, he is over 8100 or so points at the moment in the

:37:46. > :37:54.decathlon. He had a decent event at the big multi-eventing events in

:37:55. > :37:57.Austria in May. But he says he can find another 300 points, and that

:37:58. > :38:05.would get him into top tens in major championships. Mayer, however, a

:38:06. > :38:10.real contender for a medal, 8834 points. If that doesn't mean

:38:11. > :38:16.anything to you, when Daley Thompson won with a world record in Los

:38:17. > :38:25.Angeles, 8847, that is where Kevin Mayer is, just a fraction behind

:38:26. > :38:29.that. So the second quickest or second slowest, four leads to come,

:38:30. > :38:42.this is the second heat, two more after this. And we are told that is

:38:43. > :38:45.Uibo. Kevin Mayer, the Frenchman, former world junior and world youth

:38:46. > :38:51.champion, pushed Ashton Eaton very hard in Rio. Jorge Urena you, silver

:38:52. > :39:00.at the European indoor championships in heptathlon in Belgrade. And

:39:01. > :39:07.Ashley Bryant, third on the UK all time list, he is a decent sprinter,

:39:08. > :39:11.pretty decent across all the events, although his pole vault lets him

:39:12. > :39:19.down a bit, not a great high jumper either. Cedric Dubler, the

:39:20. > :39:32.Australian champion. Leonel Suarez of Cuba, he had knee surgery in

:39:33. > :39:38.2014, he has not been the same since. Kai Kazmirek, very strong

:39:39. > :39:51.German challenge in the decathlon. Pieter Braun of the Netherlands goes

:39:52. > :39:57.in lane nine. So, again, see how close you can get to your personal

:39:58. > :40:06.best, Ashley Bryant is just outside 11 seconds. He has run 11.7 seconds.

:40:07. > :40:17.So Uibo of Estonia, then Kevin Mayer, Jorge Urena, then Dubler,

:40:18. > :40:25.Suarez, Kazmirek, then Pieter Braun of the Netherlands. Ashley Bryant to

:40:26. > :40:32.start his decathlon campaign here in London. Away cleanly, and the

:40:33. > :40:37.Spaniard, Urena, off to a great start, look at Kevin Mayer,

:40:38. > :40:47.wonderful run, coming through for Germany, Kazmirek, but that is a big

:40:48. > :40:50.personal best for Kevin Mayer, he has seen that on the screen, what a

:40:51. > :40:55.start for Kevin Mayer. Looking at the contenders in the aftermath of

:40:56. > :41:00.Ashton Eaton calling his retirement, Kevin Mayer may well be the leading

:41:01. > :41:06.challenger for gold, 10.70, what a start for the French athlete to get

:41:07. > :41:15.going in the decathlon. He will be happy with that, sets himself up for

:41:16. > :41:20.the whole ten events of adventure. A good, competent sprinter, nice and

:41:21. > :41:24.tall and rangy, no panic ever, and even though he is trying to set a

:41:25. > :41:30.personal best in every event, he didn't go tight at any stage, very

:41:31. > :41:35.confident, he has arrived here in great shape. Let's have a look at

:41:36. > :41:40.the start, great start by Urena, then Mayer comes through, not quite

:41:41. > :41:47.the quick turnover of the legs, but such a long stride. The the ground,

:41:48. > :41:52.very powerful, pushing forward. -- he eats up the ground. Working,

:41:53. > :41:58.working, working, very good to see. Not dissimilar to Ashton Eaton, who

:41:59. > :42:01.was a very quick sprinter, but if you are at the world-class

:42:02. > :42:07.sprinters, they have a very quick leg turnover, whereas Ashton Eaton

:42:08. > :42:11.was a long striding sprinter. It is different in the detached long. They

:42:12. > :42:17.do not spend that much time on specific events, they have to be a

:42:18. > :42:22.master of many. This is a solid start for the Frenchman. The results

:42:23. > :42:41.have not come up on our computer, oh, we have them there.

:42:42. > :42:49.Kevin Mayer trains with KJT, and that is how you want to start with

:42:50. > :42:53.your decathlon. It is the only way, because it gives you confidence in

:42:54. > :42:57.the stuff you are doing, but now everybody knows he is in great shop,

:42:58. > :43:03.they will start worrying about him. So he has done the best possible

:43:04. > :43:07.start. The look on his face, he knows that he has delivered, what he

:43:08. > :43:12.has been training for, what he has been working towards, he knows it is

:43:13. > :43:16.inside of him, but to execute it is a different matter, as we have seen

:43:17. > :43:23.time and again. They are the master chefs, the decathletes, of track and

:43:24. > :43:30.field. They make their own formulas, what works for them, how much of

:43:31. > :43:34.each event they are going to work on, they have to keep building, and

:43:35. > :43:38.Kevin is quite a unique character, he is really relaxed, as you can

:43:39. > :43:46.see, in his technique, but the way he trains as well. He is very

:43:47. > :43:50.specific, just a natural talent, and he has got a lot of inner

:43:51. > :43:58.confidence, and his team around him have realised that. Little and often

:43:59. > :44:02.works best for him. He has had injuries before he came to this

:44:03. > :44:06.world level, but he has now found his rhythm. Ashley Bryant, a

:44:07. > :44:10.season's best, and if you can deliver the best of your season

:44:11. > :44:14.today and tomorrow, then you will leave here feeling you have done a

:44:15. > :44:18.job. It makes you a championship performer. To be honest, it is easy

:44:19. > :44:23.to do personal bests at the trials and all that kind of stuff, but to

:44:24. > :44:27.come here when the conditions are not necessarily so good, but the

:44:28. > :44:31.competition is seriously intense, perform here, that makes you a

:44:32. > :44:38.championship performer. Steve Cram, Daley has already pointed out that

:44:39. > :44:42.some viewers are delighted he is here this morning! Steve, I got a

:44:43. > :44:51.message from Alison this morning, and all it says is, all a girl be on

:44:52. > :44:55.the morning, breakfast in bed and DT on television!

:44:56. > :45:03.I have always known, who can argue with the greatest? I am at a huge

:45:04. > :45:13.disadvantage here, and I have got more decorum than he has!

:45:14. > :45:28.Breakfast in bed? Part-timers, my radio colleagues! Seriously. Daley

:45:29. > :45:37.is good at self is. He is partial to checking himself out on camera in

:45:38. > :45:41.the mirror. Not sure if it is free seating this morning, maybe not. It

:45:42. > :45:45.is pretty busy on the lower level, a lot of people sitting in the

:45:46. > :45:56.sunshine, an assume that is the way it has turned out in terms of

:45:57. > :46:10.tickets. So there is the start list for the third heat. Shkurenev,

:46:11. > :46:16.Martin Roe, Samuelsson. Nakamura. Daley was right about Mayer, he

:46:17. > :46:20.started well and he has shown the others what is possible. These guys

:46:21. > :46:31.certainly capable of that sort of time. Good morning, all.

:46:32. > :46:36.The field event under way, the women's discus qualification. The

:46:37. > :46:41.top 12, and this is your favourite, Sandra Perkovic. 27 years of age.

:46:42. > :46:49.Double Olympic champion. How about that? Nerves hitting even the very

:46:50. > :46:57.best, Perkovic has thrown beyond 70 metres this year. 62.50. Maybe

:46:58. > :47:00.taking it too easy. Athletes sometimes struggle with morning

:47:01. > :47:06.qualification. Perkovic had a foul in the first round. Jade Lally. The

:47:07. > :47:20.British drummer looking to go into the qualifying. She is going to need

:47:21. > :47:31.something close to the best. Gets ready for her first row.

:47:32. > :47:36.The athlete watch this man here of the work, Helcelet. I am is sure he

:47:37. > :47:40.scored more points than daily Thompson, three-time World Champion.

:47:41. > :47:46.See how he goes. New personal best for the Czech athlete. Samuelsson,

:47:47. > :47:58.silver medal this year. Nakamura, decent sprinter. The Asian champion,

:47:59. > :48:03.just 20 years of age, living these championships, Singkhon, a chance

:48:04. > :48:07.for a lot more experience for him. Not bad in the sprint. We will see

:48:08. > :48:15.how he goes. Temp at the Olympic Games last year and he took part at

:48:16. > :48:17.Gotzis this year and did not finish. Brugger, bronze-medallist at the

:48:18. > :48:26.World Indoor Championships last year. And then Distelberger of

:48:27. > :48:31.Austria, just missed out in Prague in the Indoor Championships this

:48:32. > :48:33.year, he finished fourth. At his best, he is the quickest in the

:48:34. > :48:52.field. Shkurenev in lane one, we did not

:48:53. > :48:58.quite see. He might just be one to watch in terms of medals, not so

:48:59. > :49:04.much in the 100m. New personal best this year of 8600.

:49:05. > :49:26.Watch Distelberger. Lane nine. He may well be the quickest here.

:49:27. > :49:38.Oh, Brugger. Unlike the non-multi- events, that does not mean

:49:39. > :49:43.disqualification. Colin, we were remarking last night, there was a

:49:44. > :49:51.disqualification, it was some task phone who fell over in the 200m. We

:49:52. > :49:55.have had very few. Is. It is good to see the discipline from the

:49:56. > :49:59.athletes. Mops who many of the -- and not too many upsets. That is a

:50:00. > :50:13.good sign, they will now be under the caution, Steve. Caution goes

:50:14. > :50:24.against the field. Not a grey hair between us, look at that!

:50:25. > :50:33.We are sitting right above the finish line, an excellent view here.

:50:34. > :50:36.It looks a bit sparse this morning. It has been incredible, the crowds.

:50:37. > :50:44.Daley mentioned it at the beginning, Brendan was talking about it

:50:45. > :50:54.yesterday. The atmosphere last night was particularly good. So once more,

:50:55. > :51:07.on the far side, Shkurenev. Martin Roe. Helcelet. Samuelsson. Singkhon.

:51:08. > :51:21.Brugger and Distelberger. We have had one. Full. -- one false start.

:51:22. > :51:26.This time, they get cleanly away, it even awake, Nakamura starting

:51:27. > :51:34.quickly, Roe going well Distelberger on the inside. Roe is going to win

:51:35. > :51:43.this, Distelberger second. A bit of a headwind there. The winning time

:51:44. > :51:50.is 10.91, not a quick heat. Jade Lally, the opening throw in the

:51:51. > :51:56.discus qualification. A foul for her, that is a disappointing start.

:51:57. > :52:03.Just shy of 60 metres. You can see the left foot" in the edge of the

:52:04. > :52:09.throwing circle. --" In. We will need to tidy that up. The thought

:52:10. > :52:18.has got to, downright on the bottom. A bit sloppy as we tidy up this 400m

:52:19. > :52:22.decathlon. Sprint. Yes, Steve, just bringing Colin N.

:52:23. > :52:30.The wind for the first time, a bit of a headwind, that takes a tenth

:52:31. > :52:33.off and the time is a bit slow. Yes, always in the decathlon, this can

:52:34. > :52:41.happen when you up always edging for the points. When you get a -1.3 wind

:52:42. > :52:45.which is what we had here, it can be a turnaround in your performance.

:52:46. > :52:54.Good sprinting by Roe. He worked hard all the way through and he got

:52:55. > :52:58.out. OK, the track is sprinting well, he is in reasonably good

:52:59. > :53:02.shape. But when you are running into a -1.3, you can see how frustrating

:53:03. > :53:13.that can be. Taking the edge off his performance.

:53:14. > :53:14.STUDIO: heat four loaded with talent, Damian Warner and Trey

:53:15. > :53:24.Hardee. Going back to that heat, that was

:53:25. > :53:30.quite slow. People well outside their PBs. I think the wind played a

:53:31. > :53:34.big part. As we have said all along, it is tough to do your best when you

:53:35. > :53:40.get into a championship. And it is tough and new if the wind does

:53:41. > :53:43.change in your heat. Absolutely. One thing that is going to be really

:53:44. > :53:49.disappointing for the Russian on the inside in lane one, he was one of

:53:50. > :53:55.the favourites and he is probably three or four tenths down already so

:53:56. > :54:01.he has lost 100 points. Shkurenev, so he has to pick himself up for the

:54:02. > :54:04.Shot Put. Yes, get himself, a bit like golf, forget the last shot. No

:54:05. > :54:10.matter how bad. Now he has to get into the Long Jump. Good analogy,

:54:11. > :54:17.probably more people watching have played golf rather than done a

:54:18. > :54:21.decathlon! But with fewer shots! And Daley is such a keen golfer so he

:54:22. > :54:29.would know! Excuse me! Looking forward to heat four, Damian Warner

:54:30. > :54:35.is in there. Silver-medallist from Rio, no, that was Damian Warner.

:54:36. > :54:41.Trey Hardee. Trey Hardee, former World Champion. And Freimuth who has

:54:42. > :54:47.the biggest score in the world this year. Yes, this is the big one.

:54:48. > :54:53.Three or four of the best, in the race. It should be a real test for

:54:54. > :55:01.everybody. Normally, they do not race each other in each heat. Yes,

:55:02. > :55:07.of course. As we have said, so it will be really nice for them to get

:55:08. > :55:11.out there. They have been in the hold. Do you enjoy that in a heat

:55:12. > :55:17.which is your main protagonists? It doesn't aways work-out as we have

:55:18. > :55:23.seen with Nafi Thiam. Is it a great joy to line up with those? I prefer

:55:24. > :55:27.to do it that way, I don't know about Denise, did you enjoyed being

:55:28. > :55:30.in the races with your closest competitors? Yes, you want to keep

:55:31. > :55:37.an eye on them and you want to know what they are doing. It is the best

:55:38. > :55:41.way. Freimuth is such a talent. He is one of the tallest decathletes in

:55:42. > :55:45.this field. This is a good event for him. He is really quick and strong

:55:46. > :55:54.in the sprint and running events. In terms of Damian Warner... Au! He is

:55:55. > :55:59.a joke at! He has been around such a long time, Trey Hardee. Great to see

:56:00. > :56:08.him back fit and able to compete. Damian Warner, it in the absence of

:56:09. > :56:13.Ashton Eaton... Thank you, Gabby. How quickly you forget! Everybody

:56:14. > :56:18.has been looking for him to step into his shoes but he has his work

:56:19. > :56:22.cut out. It doesn't always work out when you think it is your time to be

:56:23. > :56:27.the King and there are other rivals for the throw and the Crown. -- the

:56:28. > :56:32.throw. Perhaps time has moved on for Trey Hardee but he will be pushing

:56:33. > :56:39.these guys. This is Warner, the fastest man that has ever been in a

:56:40. > :56:45.decathlon. 10.1 best and he needs to be at that kind of speed to get in

:56:46. > :56:47.front of Freimuth who is also a very quick sprinter. Any news on the

:56:48. > :56:59.winds down there, on the track? It seems really calm, a lot of

:57:00. > :57:03.chuckling going on around me. Easily amused early in the morning! It is

:57:04. > :57:12.switching around down there. We shall see. We shall see. Well,

:57:13. > :57:20.protected against the sun, good to see, sensible. Just about ready for

:57:21. > :57:25.the fourth heat in the 100m, in the decathlon. Not going well in the

:57:26. > :57:36.seating! Heavy seating. Clambering up. Poor technique! This is the

:57:37. > :57:47.result of the previous heat. Martin Roe, 10.9. Slow into the headwind.

:57:48. > :57:54.Distelberger. And Shkurenev, not a good start for him. Always quite a

:57:55. > :57:57.nice way for the men the start of a decathlon with the 100m rather than

:57:58. > :58:00.the women in the heptathlon starting with the 100 hurdles were more

:58:01. > :58:07.things can go wrong. If you get out, you can have a nice free run at it.

:58:08. > :58:12.Three Americans, Devon Williams, and Trey Hardee the veteran in lane

:58:13. > :58:20.nine. This is Kasyanov, sixth and seventh at the last Olympics, Devon

:58:21. > :58:24.Williams, 23-year-old, third at the US championships and his sister

:58:25. > :58:34.Kendall was 12. Both good at the hurdles. Sintnicolaas, the twice in

:58:35. > :58:43.a Daegu in 2011 and Moscow in 2013. Ziemek, seven in Rio, second in the

:58:44. > :58:47.US Championships. Aerodynamic. Lindon Victor, the US collegiate

:58:48. > :58:57.champion from grenade. The -- Kurt Felix is his half brother from the

:58:58. > :59:05.first heat. Damian Warner, he ran his best in Gotzis last year. 10.15

:59:06. > :59:11.is an extraordinary time and that is the worlds decathlon best, the

:59:12. > :59:21.fastest ever run in a decathlon. Saluri, the Estonian, studying at

:59:22. > :59:27.the University of Georgia. In lane eight, Freimuth, set the world lead

:59:28. > :59:35.this year in Rattigan, in Germany, in June. And Trey Hardee, 33 now,

:59:36. > :59:42.World Champion in 2009, 2011, but Dill good enough to win the US title

:59:43. > :59:51.this year. -- still good enough. And a man who can run 10.40. Looping and

:59:52. > :00:05.hollering and getting themselves ready for the first of ten events.

:00:06. > :00:14.Kasyanov, Devon Williams, Damian Warner of Canada in six. Saluri of

:00:15. > :00:22.Estonia. Trey Hardee in nine, three Americans in here. And Freimuth

:00:23. > :00:31.perhaps the favourite, but he will see what Kevin Mayer did. And off

:00:32. > :00:35.goes Lindon Victor. That is fine, as Steve was explaining, in

:00:36. > :00:39.multi-eventing, you get one., but that is against the next one and it

:00:40. > :00:53.is over. For that person. Did we put the kiss of death on it

:00:54. > :00:57.by saying. Schema they are not as used to sprinting as the dedicated

:00:58. > :01:03.sprinters, but because you know you have got that, back to the old days,

:01:04. > :01:08.you got one, so you perhaps thinking about getting a bit of a flyer.

:01:09. > :01:19.Perhaps that is the case, but Mr Thomson is in the studio, is there

:01:20. > :01:21.less discipline now? Lyndon Victor has brought that up on the whole

:01:22. > :01:34.field. Trey Hardee gets ready to settle

:01:35. > :01:45.again, less whooping this time. Oh, somebody!

:01:46. > :01:55.Kasyanov, Sintnicolaas, Lyndon Victor, Saluri, Freimuth. Damian

:01:56. > :02:07.Warner, 10.15 is his quickest. 10.35 this season.

:02:08. > :02:13.Cleanly away, and Damian Warner will start to move into a zone, Trey

:02:14. > :02:20.Hardee struggling a little bit, Saluri going well, but Warner is

:02:21. > :02:24.bringing them home, good run from Bryant, 10.50, so not that quick for

:02:25. > :02:30.Damian Warner, a quizzical look up at the screen. I think he expected

:02:31. > :02:34.better, he has run 10.35 this season, there wasn't much wind at

:02:35. > :02:40.all against, so I think he would have expected better. This is his

:02:41. > :02:44.strongest event by a distance, and not flying from Damian Warner. A

:02:45. > :02:50.little bit of a quick gun, that could have caught him out. He

:02:51. > :02:56.prefers as an athlete to settle in the blocks, not going up quickly,

:02:57. > :03:01.you don't have the opportunity to drive as much as you would like to.

:03:02. > :03:04.I think that has caught him out, with 10.50, he will be a little bit

:03:05. > :03:15.disappointed, because he knows he is more capable than that. I wonder

:03:16. > :03:20.what's Daley thinks? Daley thinks he would be a bit disappointed, he

:03:21. > :03:24.would normally be 1.5 tenths faster than anyone in the field, but

:03:25. > :03:31.Freimuth is probably less than a tenth behind, so good run by

:03:32. > :03:37.Freimuth and not quite so good by Warner. He has been struggling,

:03:38. > :03:41.Daley, with this illness that has been around, Damian Warner, I think

:03:42. > :03:45.he was in isolation, but Rico Freimuth has come up with a season's

:03:46. > :03:52.best, so a great start. Warner just a little bit down. Hopefully he will

:03:53. > :03:58.not feel any bad effects, as he has actually started, he will be able to

:03:59. > :04:03.get back on the road again. So Damian Warner the winner of the

:04:04. > :04:08.heat, as we say, not quite with his usual zip, running 10.50, but Rico

:04:09. > :04:16.Freimuth comes to the finish very strongly, a real power athlete, one

:04:17. > :04:21.-- once he got into his running, a season's best.

:04:22. > :04:36.Well, back to this women's discus got -- discus qualification, 62.50

:04:37. > :04:41.is needed for her, this is a better throw, it is long, look at that,

:04:42. > :04:48.what a response from Perkovic. Maybe frustrated at herself, take a bow.

:04:49. > :04:54.Needing to take two throws, great delay of the right arm, the head

:04:55. > :04:59.strikes, followed by the arm, perfect demonstration of how to

:05:00. > :05:02.throw discus a long way, no one beyond 70 metres other than herself

:05:03. > :05:07.this year. She has got the three longest throws in the world, has the

:05:08. > :05:15.Croatian athlete, and now she has the fourth longest as well, 69.6

:05:16. > :05:21.seven. Anita Marton with a load this cause, silver-medallist in the shot

:05:22. > :05:31.put, competed really well, even by Gong of China. And well, Marton,

:05:32. > :05:38.discus not quite as strong, does not get the delay, the arm comes through

:05:39. > :05:42.at the same time as the hip, so no improvement for L, 55.96, looks

:05:43. > :05:49.unlikely to qualify. Jane Lalli, a foul in the first round, needs a

:05:50. > :05:55.Daley Thompson -esque response. Great memories of Daley wandering in

:05:56. > :06:00.for his third discus throw, we will have to ask him about that. Jade

:06:01. > :06:10.Lalli, 62.50 needed, or something close. Top 12 make it through to the

:06:11. > :06:22.final. That is shy of 60m. That is another foul, so she puts herself

:06:23. > :06:23.under pressure for one more chance. Fouled and voluntarily,

:06:24. > :06:29.surprisingly, two prowls for Lally, big pressure in the third round, not

:06:30. > :06:39.going to plan for the British champion. Under some pressure

:06:40. > :06:51.indeed. Well, the hurdles coming out for the

:06:52. > :07:04.women's conduct, let's just tidy up the cattle on -- the decathlon 100m.

:07:05. > :07:15.This is how they stand at the first event.

:07:16. > :07:25.A big personal best for Kevin Mayer, he is the man who has done best of

:07:26. > :07:29.all, silver-medallist behind Ashton Eaton at the Olympics. A little bit

:07:30. > :07:38.further down, a couple of the Americans there, a little bit under

:07:39. > :07:44.par in the 100m. A season's best is time for the British athlete.

:07:45. > :07:51.When it is your best event, Daley, and you don't give your best, as

:07:52. > :07:55.Damian Warner did there, going back to what we were saying before,

:07:56. > :07:59.compartmentalised in and moving on, but there will be a niggle in his

:08:00. > :08:04.mind, thinking he hasn't posted this cool he should have. Absolutely, two

:08:05. > :08:08.things have happened, he knows he has to work really hard just to get

:08:09. > :08:13.back to level, and everybody behind him that has done OK, they are

:08:14. > :08:18.thinking, we might have a chance here. We are going to be able to

:08:19. > :08:23.push him out. So two things have changed, and he will have to do a

:08:24. > :08:28.really good long jump and shot, maybe get 20 or 30 points extra in

:08:29. > :08:34.some of the things. You know, Damian Warner would have expected to be 50,

:08:35. > :08:40.maybe 70 points in front of everybody here, and he is only ten

:08:41. > :08:45.in front. So the pressure is on him now, you will have to really... And

:08:46. > :08:49.you can't help but think that if this norovirus has taken a bit out

:08:50. > :08:53.of him, is it going to be a few percent down on the other events,

:08:54. > :08:58.the events that involves speed on the runway, for the long jump?

:08:59. > :09:03.Obviously the 400 as well. The trouble is, apart from Kevin Mayer,

:09:04. > :09:06.who was head and shoulders above everybody, everybody else is

:09:07. > :09:10.actually quite close. When you are losing ten or 20 or 30 points here

:09:11. > :09:15.and there, it is really difficult to get them back, because you are

:09:16. > :09:19.already expecting to do a good performance in the next event.

:09:20. > :09:24.Damian Warner probably thinks he is in a little bit of trouble, but

:09:25. > :09:30.Kevin Mayer is obviously in pole position, he has done a personal

:09:31. > :09:34.best, and shown everybody else... At this point in the decathlon, are you

:09:35. > :09:37.communicating with each other? Did you stay completely on your own in

:09:38. > :09:44.the zone? I know you were joking around and smiling when things were

:09:45. > :09:50.more relaxed, but... I think everybody has their own way of doing

:09:51. > :09:53.it, and I think you are right, wait until two or three events have gone,

:09:54. > :09:59.then everybody is relaxed, they can see how they are going. But I think

:10:00. > :10:06.that for most people, they are fairly low-key, and obviously I was

:10:07. > :10:17.talking to most people. Annoying them, getting in their ears! If this

:10:18. > :10:24.week of athletics has inspired you, this is what you should do. This is

:10:25. > :10:27.the BBC Sport campaign to get active on the BBC Sport website. You can

:10:28. > :10:31.find inspirational stories from people just like you, as well as

:10:32. > :10:38.hints, tips, and over 70 practical guides to help you give something a

:10:39. > :10:44.go. There is also an activity guide to help you find something to try

:10:45. > :10:51.near you. Just get up, get inspired, and get active.

:10:52. > :10:55.And of course there is PGA golf as well, we have got it covered on the

:10:56. > :11:05.red button, the US PGA golf from Quail Hollow, and that is on BBC Two

:11:06. > :11:10.from 11 o'clock tonight. We are about to start the women's

:11:11. > :11:17.hurdles heats, and in the first of those heats, Olesya Povh it, she

:11:18. > :11:27.qualified as champion in the trials. -- Alicia Barrett. She is the

:11:28. > :11:33.Prodigy and some time hopeful future champion for Toni Minichiello. --

:11:34. > :11:41.the protege. What kind of shape is she in? She is in good shape, she

:11:42. > :11:48.was invited to this as an addition, she hadn't won with the qualifying

:11:49. > :11:52.time, she didn't have that, but they were sending out invitations, so

:11:53. > :11:55.this was a bit of a surprise. She had just come out of the European

:11:56. > :12:00.Juniors, where she got a silver medal, and the plan was to go to the

:12:01. > :12:04.world student games, but if you get the opportunity to come to the World

:12:05. > :12:09.Championships, what you have cleaned up, difficult to say no. Was it

:12:10. > :12:14.difficult? Did you wrestle with that in terms of their progress as an

:12:15. > :12:20.athlete? Or was there no doubt that coming here would be instrumental in

:12:21. > :12:27.informing her going forwards, how to behave, this kind of stage? We did

:12:28. > :12:31.wrestle with it, we took a day over making a final decision, whether to

:12:32. > :12:36.accept the invitation or not, because she had come down out of the

:12:37. > :12:39.European junior championships a little bit beaten up, so we needed

:12:40. > :12:44.to make sure that she was fully fit coming into here. But this is what

:12:45. > :12:49.kids dream of, this is the level you have got to be, so chuck them in,

:12:50. > :12:55.see if they swim or trout. And she did well in the British

:12:56. > :12:58.championships, and it was a great opportunity for her. It is nice to

:12:59. > :13:04.win a senior title when you are still a junior, but without the

:13:05. > :13:09.sisters being there, it is a lower-level championships, but the

:13:10. > :13:14.best of the rest at that point, British champion, nice to have that

:13:15. > :13:21.in your CB. Thank you, Toni, any nerves for you? Not really, it is

:13:22. > :13:26.all about trying to normalise this, 30 metres to the first hurdle, it is

:13:27. > :13:29.no different than what you have done 15 times before, so no, we will just

:13:30. > :13:30.see how we go, BELL RINGS

:13:31. > :13:47.Huge expectations. Thank you, Toni! People inside the stadium will be

:13:48. > :13:49.excited at the sign of an athlete in a British vest, but those

:13:50. > :13:55.expectations have to be tempered because this is, as Toni was saying,

:13:56. > :13:58.it is a learning process, a great experience for her to be here

:13:59. > :14:02.alongside some of the best in the world. That is how they line up for

:14:03. > :14:09.this first heat in the first round of the women's 100 hurdles. The

:14:10. > :14:13.first of five, four go through automatically, Isabelle Pedersen,

:14:14. > :14:22.former world junior champion, new personal best this season, 12.75. If

:14:23. > :14:29.you look at times, you can see that Barrett has run a very quick time,

:14:30. > :14:42.13.0 seven. Zagre was at 12.96. Alicia Barrett goes in lane four.

:14:43. > :14:46.Danielle Williams, 12.56, a new personal best this season, the

:14:47. > :14:53.defending champion, a surprise win in Beijing a couple of years ago.

:14:54. > :15:01.Pamela Dutkiewicz of Germany, she is running well this season, the German

:15:02. > :15:09.champion, down to 12.61. Girona back of the Netherlands, Moraes of

:15:10. > :15:17.Brazil, the new South American champion, then Kerekes of Hungary.

:15:18. > :15:23.So what an experience this is in the sunshine inside this grand stadium,

:15:24. > :15:30.to be running in the World Championships. Anything after this

:15:31. > :15:34.is a bonus. There will be many championships to come, but in

:15:35. > :15:43.hurdles there is always a chance, four go through automatically.

:15:44. > :16:01.Pedersen, Zagre. Danielle Williams, the World Champion. And Kerekes.

:16:02. > :16:07.Cleanly away and Danielle Williams going quickly, Barrett left. Also

:16:08. > :16:14.going strongly is the German, Dutkiewicz. Four go through

:16:15. > :16:22.automatically, Zagre makes up the four, into a slight wind, a good run

:16:23. > :16:27.by Danielle Williams. Good run by the Jamaican. We will see what time

:16:28. > :16:33.Alicia Barrett managed, because it is about this experience they might

:16:34. > :16:37.have hoped to progress to the semifinals but that was always a

:16:38. > :16:42.tall order against this calibre of athletes. Danielle Williams

:16:43. > :16:51.alongside the World Champion. She goes through, Dutkiewicz and

:16:52. > :16:55.Pedersen and Zagre. Colin. Williams was brilliant, I was looking forward

:16:56. > :17:00.to see how she would arrive at these championships, defending her title,

:17:01. > :17:05.in yellow, from Jamaica, very good. Competent when it comes to the

:17:06. > :17:09.technique. Happy to run on the these barriers. Takes the risk of getting

:17:10. > :17:14.close. Because she is so good technically, she can afford to do

:17:15. > :17:17.that. Very good to see she is working hard and into this wind, a

:17:18. > :17:22.very solid performance by the Jamaican.

:17:23. > :17:30.Your assessment of that race? It wasn't great, I did not get the best

:17:31. > :17:38.start. But it was really fun! It was awful, but it was kind of fun. Happy

:17:39. > :17:42.with it can solve. Gabby has been talking to your coach Tony about how

:17:43. > :17:46.you got here and the invitation came and you debated it. You're going to

:17:47. > :17:50.learn a lot from it. Yes, definitely. Not sure what to do but

:17:51. > :17:56.that helped, not being ready, because I was not overthinking it

:17:57. > :18:00.which was a good thing. I was really shocked, I was like, what?! Well

:18:01. > :18:03.done on the silver medal at the Europeans, fantastic. What are you

:18:04. > :18:08.learning from this experience compared to the junior stage? With

:18:09. > :18:13.the juniors, you kind of focus on your own race to take into the

:18:14. > :18:18.seniors, instead of being distracted by people around you, that is what I

:18:19. > :18:21.want to learn. I did not do that today, but hopefully next time.

:18:22. > :18:24.Thank you, this is just the start for you.

:18:25. > :18:35.That is a good way of describing it, awful but kind of fun at the same

:18:36. > :18:38.time, Tony. Yes, looking at the foot on the hurdles are not running as

:18:39. > :18:43.efficiently as she should Comey you should drive your need more at the

:18:44. > :18:49.hurdles than her but, I'm sure she would be a disappointed, into my

:18:50. > :18:56.nice 1.4, it is about the average she has been running over the

:18:57. > :19:03.season. If you look at the best for her, 13.07, what can be done? Does

:19:04. > :19:08.she have the tools to get below 13? That is the thing. It is about flat

:19:09. > :19:12.speed for her and learning. You have run 13.07 and you average better

:19:13. > :19:18.times this season compared to year before. You need to get under 13

:19:19. > :19:21.seconds readily. So it is all about improving that speed. She's not the

:19:22. > :19:27.greatest flat 100m runner but we need to work on that. A lot of the

:19:28. > :19:38.best hurdlers over the years have been very good sprinters. Danielle

:19:39. > :19:43.Williams at the top and 1312,66. Alicia Barrett in her World

:19:44. > :19:48.Championship debut. So Jade Lally, the six time British

:19:49. > :19:54.champion Rams medallist in the Commonwealth Games. She has the

:19:55. > :19:57.experience to cope with the situation, two fouls and she needs a

:19:58. > :20:05.throw in excess of 60 metres. She has saved that, I think, but dipping

:20:06. > :20:10.shy of the 60-metre line. Jade Lally carried those fouls and just maybe

:20:11. > :20:18.tries to force that in the third and final round. She auto qualifies, but

:20:19. > :20:24.the first pool with 15 athletes in each. It is a better throw, the

:20:25. > :20:33.sequences better. Did not quite get onto the left side is to get it

:20:34. > :20:38.down, almost pulling up into that. 57.71. That is eighth place, that

:20:39. > :20:42.will not be enough, I don't thing. Another athlete under pressure is

:20:43. > :20:49.the reigning champion of Cuba, Denia Caballero. In sixth place. Very

:20:50. > :20:57.fast, the active reverse. That is better. Maybe just needed that

:20:58. > :21:04.pressure of a third throw. High-fives all round in the Cuban

:21:05. > :21:10.camp and Caballero puts her mark out beyond auto qualifying. The final on

:21:11. > :21:17.Sunday. She is under pressure to retain her world title with the form

:21:18. > :21:26.we have just seen early on of Sandra Perkovic. Just shy of 70 metres from

:21:27. > :21:33.Sandra Perkovic. Caballero. 63.79. She auto qualifies. So real

:21:34. > :21:41.disappointment and Jade Lally is left to ponder and wonder what the

:21:42. > :21:47.future holds. And another championship slips between her

:21:48. > :21:50.fingers. She will likely take no part in that final, eighth place,

:21:51. > :21:56.she slips the ninth after the throw from Caballero.

:21:57. > :22:02.Disappointment, let's hope things are better for Tiffany Porter. A

:22:03. > :22:10.difficult season, World Championship record is excellent, in the top five

:22:11. > :22:15.including the bronze medal in 2013. Fourth in 2011 and fifth in 2015.

:22:16. > :22:22.She was not at the trials. She had a bit of time away and her last race,

:22:23. > :22:30.she was 13 flat. To give you an idea of her form. Her sister Cindy is

:22:31. > :22:40.injured and out for the season. Megan Symmonds finished second in

:22:41. > :22:50.their championships. Semifinalist at the Olympics last year. Four

:22:51. > :22:57.Jamaicans. Nia Ali the Olympic silver-medallist and USA, as ever,

:22:58. > :23:06.in credibly well represented. Phylicia George of Canada. And on

:23:07. > :23:15.the outside, European junior silver-medallist Kozak, 21 years of

:23:16. > :23:21.age. The top four go through. Boons. Mulern Jean, another former American

:23:22. > :23:26.running for Haiti, decided it is an event where if you are an American,

:23:27. > :23:35.it is so tough to make the team. She is competing for Haiti, a former

:23:36. > :23:39.American herself. She needs a top four, I hope, that should be all

:23:40. > :23:44.right. It is what happens when you get to the semifinal stage. Nia Ali

:23:45. > :23:55.in the middle and Megan Simmonds. Tiff Porter in four. Tiff Porter

:23:56. > :24:00.gets out well and so does Simmonds of Jamaica and Ali got left. Tiff

:24:01. > :24:09.Porter just run out and might not get the four. Simmonds, Phylicia

:24:10. > :24:15.George. Tiff Porter is in sixth. Into that headwind, 12.7. I said,

:24:16. > :24:21.Colin, she has been struggling all season. Even that was not a

:24:22. > :24:29.performance... Tiff Porter run 13 flat in her last race and she has

:24:30. > :24:34.not even got under 13 seconds. She is looking up at the screen, sixth

:24:35. > :24:42.place, only the top four go through. It sure she will not advance, Colin.

:24:43. > :24:45.Really disappointing for Tiff. So good at these championships in the

:24:46. > :24:50.past. She will be disappointed, but we have to keep a clear head.

:24:51. > :24:58.Difficult season, trying her best to get to top form. But obviously

:24:59. > :25:02.running out of time. Let's have a look. Here she is out of the blocks

:25:03. > :25:09.and we are used to seeing Tiffani explode out and be very aggressive.

:25:10. > :25:13.She clattered the barrier. When you have not been able to go to all the

:25:14. > :25:16.races, that is when the mixed event is tricky and difficult because you

:25:17. > :25:22.are unsure of what you can do and how you can push on, your legs

:25:23. > :25:26.moving the right way, can you drive off the trail leg? These things are

:25:27. > :25:29.really complicated. They have got to get them right at these

:25:30. > :25:33.championships. Tiff missing that time during the season, really, that

:25:34. > :25:43.has caused this performance from her.

:25:44. > :25:49.Tiff is a little bit shocked by that performance, I think. A difficult

:25:50. > :25:54.year for you we know. Yes, I have been really struggling this year, I

:25:55. > :25:58.have had many setbacks. Just not in the form I need to be in and that

:25:59. > :26:02.was massively disappointing. What can I say? Can you elaborate on some

:26:03. > :26:06.of the things you have had to deal with? I have had a couple of niggles

:26:07. > :26:10.and personal stuff I have been dealing with as well. I just did not

:26:11. > :26:14.want to miss out on this opportunity, I wanted to put my best

:26:15. > :26:18.foot forward. It is just so embarrassing to come out here and

:26:19. > :26:22.run like that. You should never be embarrassed, you are a great

:26:23. > :26:25.Ambassador for us and you can't legislate for injuries and the lack

:26:26. > :26:29.of build-up you wanted. You are one of the fastest losers but not

:26:30. > :26:34.getting through, do you regret coming here, is this something... I

:26:35. > :26:38.would never say I would regret it, running in front of a British crowd

:26:39. > :26:42.is awesome and I wanted to put on a show. Unfortunately, that did not

:26:43. > :26:44.happen today, that is what athletics is all about. Thank you for being so

:26:45. > :26:55.honest. Thanks, guys. Just to confirm that, certainly not

:26:56. > :27:01.her usual standard. She has explained why. 13.18, she is the

:27:02. > :27:06.fastest loser but her chances do not look good.

:27:07. > :27:10.STUDIO: Tiffany Porter was a bronze-medallist and Olympic

:27:11. > :27:11.finalist with her sister in Rio, not looking like she is progressing in

:27:12. > :27:19.this competition. Denise, troubled year, disappointing

:27:20. > :27:22.for her not to build on those performances. Yes, really

:27:23. > :27:26.disappointed and I think her interview said it, it is a hard

:27:27. > :27:30.decision when you know you are selected.

:27:31. > :27:37.Of the calibre she has been that. But you do not want to turn down

:27:38. > :27:41.your place. The London Stadium is fantastic. Maybe she was hoping for

:27:42. > :27:45.elevation from the crowd. That is not Tiffany, that is not what we

:27:46. > :27:48.have seen from her. When things do not go together, athletes will tell

:27:49. > :27:52.you, when you can't get the training, this is the result. She

:27:53. > :27:56.was searching for form and it wasn't here. She was given a dispensation

:27:57. > :28:00.and she did not do the trials because things were not quite right

:28:01. > :28:09.and that is when Alicia Barrett became the national champion. Things

:28:10. > :28:12.have not been right for a while. No, she has moved back to the States and

:28:13. > :28:16.is working with her husband who is coaching her. A lot of changes. That

:28:17. > :28:18.reaction was like, I can't believe I have run so slowly, it is just not

:28:19. > :28:28.her. Next, a new woman who runs very

:28:29. > :28:32.quickly, world-record holder Kendra Harrison who got the record here in

:28:33. > :28:35.the Anniversary Games. She is a joy to watch and we were there that

:28:36. > :28:43.night, such a special moment, Denise. Yes, special and a flawless

:28:44. > :28:57.race and textbook demonstration of how to hurdle. Amazing flat speed,

:28:58. > :29:01.her technique is on point. She has run 12,28 this year. Close to the

:29:02. > :29:04.world-record and potentially going again in the stadium. When somebody

:29:05. > :29:09.executes a race like that with perfect over the hurdles and in

:29:10. > :29:14.between, Daley, and chaos going on around her. I don't think she saw

:29:15. > :29:19.that chaos, she was too far ahead. She is now having a good year. And I

:29:20. > :29:22.think that this might be the performance of the Games if she can

:29:23. > :29:27.step it up and break the world record. She had the bit between her

:29:28. > :29:30.teeth because she did not qualify for the Olympic team and so she came

:29:31. > :29:36.to London very much like, will show the world. Those American trials are

:29:37. > :29:41.brutal. The finish in the top three or you do not go whether you are a

:29:42. > :29:45.world-record holder or not and Harrison is a world-record holder,

:29:46. > :29:49.she was not going to make that mistake twice, Andrew Cotter. She is

:29:50. > :29:53.out here and ready to prove she has the credentials to be a champion.

:29:54. > :29:58.They say this is a quick track and it has the world-record, but it has

:29:59. > :29:59.not been reducing those times so far in this championship, is that about

:30:00. > :30:11.to change? The US trials was the last time she

:30:12. > :30:18.lost, 2016. This is probably why hedgehogs are endangered! Actually,

:30:19. > :30:22.he has got some moves. Strange moves... Harrison being introduced

:30:23. > :30:28.to the crowd, set that record at the Diamond League meeting here. Bailed

:30:29. > :30:32.to make the team for Rio, but unbeatable since then. Yanique

:30:33. > :30:39.Thompson, the former youth champion. Sally Pearson is the star for

:30:40. > :30:51.Australia. Oh, we are ignoring 30 won, she likes a dance on the start

:30:52. > :30:59.line. Lindsay Lindley, 30 Fife, Ahmed, Talay, then Charlton of the

:31:00. > :31:07.Bahamas. You have got to run some fast times to get the camera to

:31:08. > :31:11.stop. Kelly Harrison has not lost a race since those trials, when she

:31:12. > :31:18.did not make it to Rio. Shortly after that failure, she came here,

:31:19. > :31:30.taking the age-old record from the Bulgarian, going back to 1988. Ran

:31:31. > :31:38.12.20 in hungrier last month. -- in Hungary. Four go through, four

:31:39. > :31:47.should go through. Thomson alongside Harrison will be quick. Lindley of

:31:48. > :31:53.Nigeria, Pesiridou, Ahmed, Talay, eejit. Cleanly away, Kelly Harrison

:31:54. > :32:02.already out in front, so quick between the barriers, look at move

:32:03. > :32:11.between the hurdles, also going well is Lindley, then Thompson, a stroll

:32:12. > :32:15.for Kelly Harrison to move through, evading any of the pitfalls that can

:32:16. > :32:20.occur in this event. She has done exactly what was required to move

:32:21. > :32:28.through to the semifinals tonight, made it look very easy, Colin. Yes,

:32:29. > :32:34.world leader, world record holder, she certainly brought this home, she

:32:35. > :32:42.hit the second hurdle with the lead leg, which is a bit of a worry,

:32:43. > :32:52.because if she gets faster, it could cause problems. So beautiful in full

:32:53. > :33:03.flight, it takes so do lots of victories.

:33:04. > :33:09.You always look so aggressive, tell me about doing this in a US best. I

:33:10. > :33:16.am blessed to be here, I'm excited to wear USA on my chest, excited to

:33:17. > :33:23.represent. You are going unbeaten, so dominant. It definitely builds

:33:24. > :33:29.confidence, I am going to come back, run fast, make the finals. You have

:33:30. > :33:35.got a race in the morning and you have to do it again tonight. I think

:33:36. > :33:40.the morning, you know, it is just about getting your legs underneath

:33:41. > :33:46.you, you know, you have got to set you read, just come out in the next

:33:47. > :33:51.round. Well, what a rhythm, fantastic to see.

:33:52. > :33:59.The USAID tend to dominate this event, they did in Rio, even without

:34:00. > :34:03.Keni Harrison. -- the USA tend to dominate. She has got the raw speed

:34:04. > :34:09.between the hurdles. She gets forced leg speed, because she is so quick,

:34:10. > :34:13.and the barriers restrict your stride length. She manages the

:34:14. > :34:21.cadence so well. You have to get into your rhythm quickly, because

:34:22. > :34:26.you have not raised for a long time before the heats, so you need to get

:34:27. > :34:32.your timing back early. She is the favourite for good reason, 12.60,

:34:33. > :34:40.Alina Talay also goes through, Yanique Thompson, Devynne Charlton.

:34:41. > :34:50.That has knocked Tiffany Porter loses. -- out of the fastest losers.

:34:51. > :34:56.If Keni Harrison did look good, she was disqualified in the semifinals

:34:57. > :35:02.in Beijing two years ago, did not make the Olympic team for the United

:35:03. > :35:07.States of America, she has not done that big-time performance at a major

:35:08. > :35:10.championship, and you can just get a sense that she's not wanting to

:35:11. > :35:15.screw this up, this is about nailing it when it really counts. It is all

:35:16. > :35:18.right running fast times around the circuit, but getting through the

:35:19. > :35:24.rounds is a different matter. You have nailed it, a lot of pressure,

:35:25. > :35:28.even mentally, for her. We know she can run quick, world record holder,

:35:29. > :35:34.budget hasn't got a global medal, she hasn't got the Olympic title,

:35:35. > :35:39.world title. -- but she hasn't got. This will be playing on her mind,

:35:40. > :35:44.this is why you are in the sport, records are great, but those medals

:35:45. > :35:47.signify you are in history for life. It is about being professional,

:35:48. > :35:53.making sure you do all the things right and get to the final, then you

:35:54. > :35:57.can let loose. But there is no point being all fancy and not making it.

:35:58. > :36:03.So she looks like she is in the right sort of place mentally, in her

:36:04. > :36:08.interview she was nice and calm, yeah, she just wants to get off and

:36:09. > :36:13.get ready for tonight and the final. Tonight, when it is packed, the

:36:14. > :36:17.atmosphere ramps up a little bit, and she get that feeling, it really

:36:18. > :36:21.will feel like a major championship, whereas this feels more subdued this

:36:22. > :36:25.morning, doesn't it? Sally Pearson coming up in the next heat, she

:36:26. > :36:28.knows what it is like when the stadium is electric, the winner from

:36:29. > :36:35.the London Olympics, and since then she has been troubled by injury.

:36:36. > :36:41.Very much like Keni Harrison, they are both running with pins in their

:36:42. > :36:46.hands and wrists because of these nasty balls they have sustained, but

:36:47. > :36:51.this race was just incredible. She is a real favourite of the British

:36:52. > :36:58.public, you know, she has got family here, look at that reaction! Just

:36:59. > :37:02.waiting, have I won it? It was so close, and Nelson gave her such a

:37:03. > :37:08.run for her money, but she is back to best, Sally, she really well in

:37:09. > :37:16.London in the Diamond League. That was, for me, the test that Sally is

:37:17. > :37:22.back, really sharp, really quick, just on the shoulder... I love that

:37:23. > :37:30.reaction! In the same heats today as Dawn Harper Nelson, who is the

:37:31. > :37:34.Beijing Olympic champion. We saw her coming close to Sally Pearson in

:37:35. > :37:41.2012, so women with great experience in this heat, Steve Cram. Yes, a

:37:42. > :37:47.little bit of that yesterday, but Sally has come back into good form

:37:48. > :37:53.yesterday, 12.48, chasing Keni Harrison home. Harper Nelson making

:37:54. > :37:57.it onto the US team, I think 33 years of age, it just shows what a

:37:58. > :38:01.redoubtable character she is in terms of the competition. A very

:38:02. > :38:06.good youngster from Jamaica, Rushelle Burton, she has just gone

:38:07. > :38:08.to America, the silver-medallist in the world junior championships.

:38:09. > :38:16.Alicia Barrett was sixth in that race. Burton is a real talent,

:38:17. > :38:24.12.65, new personal best this year. She ran that at the NCAAs. Dawn

:38:25. > :38:31.Harper Nelson, then, the Olympic champion, silver medal in London,

:38:32. > :38:37.the Olympic champion from Beijing. Never been great in the World

:38:38. > :38:42.Championships, never been too kind to her over the years. Sally

:38:43. > :38:46.Pearson, world champion, Olympic champion, twice Commonwealth

:38:47. > :38:52.champion, world indoor champion! Yeah, when she is fit and healthy,

:38:53. > :38:57.she is going to be there or thereabouts. 30 now, Sally, 12.48

:38:58. > :39:06.this year puts her right up in medal contention. Portier two of Ukraine

:39:07. > :39:17.on the outside. So four, as we have said earlier to go through. -- 40

:39:18. > :39:33.the Australian contingent. Has that Kangaroo paid for a seat?

:39:34. > :39:38.So Pearson in six, Harper Nelson in three, Burton on the far side in

:39:39. > :39:51.two. Burden does get a very good start,

:39:52. > :39:57.the young Jamaican, Harper Nelson trying to run her down, but now

:39:58. > :40:03.Sally Pearson stamping her authority over this, hurdling beautifully,

:40:04. > :40:06.look at the Australian go, Harper Nelson third, 12.73, not quite as

:40:07. > :40:11.quick as a couple of the previous heats, but Sally Pearson looking

:40:12. > :40:20.very good indeed, very smooth. Harper Nelson just got add of the

:40:21. > :40:24.youngster in the end. Colin, she has put herself right back in the mix,

:40:25. > :40:30.we are all talking about Keni Harrison, but she has got the

:40:31. > :40:33.experience. Yes, world champion, Olympic champion, she has the

:40:34. > :40:37.championship record, Sally, so we know she can deliver on this stage,

:40:38. > :40:42.for sure, and it is nice to see that she is believing in her performance,

:40:43. > :40:46.running hard, pushing into every single one of those barriers, a sign

:40:47. > :40:51.that she is feeling more confident in her form. Out of the blocks well,

:40:52. > :40:58.sprinting very sharply this year, back to her best there. Nice to see

:40:59. > :41:04.that she is working on all these areas, good focus, always beautiful

:41:05. > :41:10.technically. Look how she is moving through the field, showing her

:41:11. > :41:14.dominance. Really announcing herself again, that she is back to her very

:41:15. > :41:19.best, fingers crossed that it goes well, looking down stairs, she is

:41:20. > :41:22.with Phil. What an impressive performance, what

:41:23. > :41:28.is it like to be back at the plays of your greatest triumph? It was

:41:29. > :41:33.funny at there today, I was really, really nervous, because it has been

:41:34. > :41:37.a while since I have been on a championship team. I felt really

:41:38. > :41:42.comfortable out there, I thought I was running faster than that. I am

:41:43. > :41:47.used to going through the rounds at the fastest, not today, but I feel

:41:48. > :41:51.like I have got more to give, so I am really intrigued to see what I

:41:52. > :41:57.can do through to the next round, and hopefully into the final.

:41:58. > :42:02.Through the darker days of recent years, did you doubt this moment

:42:03. > :42:07.would come again? Oh, yeah, of course, when you go through those

:42:08. > :42:10.moments, you retire about a hundred times over, but something deep

:42:11. > :42:16.inside of you know is that you have got more to give, so I listened to

:42:17. > :42:20.that, and here I am today. Good luck tonight. Thank you very much, see

:42:21. > :42:26.you. Very good indeed, 12.72, interesting

:42:27. > :42:30.that she thought she was going quicker, it looked like she was, a

:42:31. > :42:37.slight headwind. Harper Nelson was looking relaxed, Rushelle Burton,

:42:38. > :42:51.the 19-year-old, going through, the fourth spot going to Plotitsyna.

:42:52. > :42:58.What is it that keeps you going when your body says it is not going to

:42:59. > :43:03.come back to what it was? The difference between champions and

:43:04. > :43:08.those that fall by the wayside. Absolutely, all athletes, by

:43:09. > :43:13.definition, they are optimists, and if it is not working today, well,

:43:14. > :43:19.maybe tomorrow. And when you are summary of Sally's age, you haven't

:43:20. > :43:24.got a lot else to sort of go off two. She is dirty, so the times of

:43:25. > :43:34.running in major championships are slowly coming to an end. -- she is

:43:35. > :43:38.30. A lot of it, when you are injured, it is only hope that keeps

:43:39. > :43:44.you going, to make it through the injury, and she is a really tough

:43:45. > :43:48.cookie. I do believe that those missed years, she has tried to make

:43:49. > :43:52.up for the bad hamstring she suffered, the wrist injury, they

:43:53. > :43:56.kind of came back to back, so she knows that she has been robbed of a

:43:57. > :44:00.couple of years, and she wants to go out on a high. It is good to see her

:44:01. > :44:06.back to her best. The technique is pretty much faultless, it was just

:44:07. > :44:10.finding that speed again. And then, of course, when she has been away,

:44:11. > :44:17.injured, you see this woman coming onto the scene in the shape of Keni

:44:18. > :44:22.Harrison, yeah come on, I want to race her, I want to be racing the

:44:23. > :44:26.world record-holder. Absolutely, when you of the stature of Sally,

:44:27. > :44:31.you only want to raise the best at the big championships, and I think

:44:32. > :44:36.she will be tested. I don't know how she does it, because I don't think

:44:37. > :44:44.she'd up they say she has self coached, and I think that is really

:44:45. > :44:53.hard, and the women hurdlers do not avoid each other, they always race

:44:54. > :44:57.each other. She is another one that will love the atmosphere in the

:44:58. > :44:59.semifinals tonight, really a crowd favourite, they love her, they

:45:00. > :45:04.appreciate her in this London Stadium. We were talking earlier

:45:05. > :45:09.about her athlete and decathlete who starred in the multi-events and move

:45:10. > :45:13.into other events, and Nadine Visser, who was competing in the

:45:14. > :45:16.heptathlon here, like Katarina Johnson-Thompson, she is going for

:45:17. > :45:23.an individual event as well, a world class hurdler.

:45:24. > :45:28.A personal best of 12.78 and she belongs in this territory. Really

:45:29. > :45:31.good heptathlete, but this is her strength. Andrew Cotter is calling

:45:32. > :45:41.this, the final of these heaps. Nadine Visser seven in the

:45:42. > :45:46.heptathlon, but you think of Jessica Ennis-Hill running a 12.54 at the

:45:47. > :45:53.Olympics, outstanding and world-class hurled. Christina

:45:54. > :46:04.Manning. And Amusan the two to catch.

:46:05. > :46:13.There is Angela Whyte, 37 now, the Canadian champion. World junior

:46:14. > :46:20.champion Herman Belarus. Hildebrand of Germany and Nadine Visser,

:46:21. > :46:25.seventh in the heptathlon. Winner of the 100 hurdles at the under 23

:46:26. > :46:28.championships, so whether she continues in heptathlon or

:46:29. > :46:39.specialises in the hurdles or does both. The Asian champion of career.

:46:40. > :46:43.And the US collegiate champion, the winner of the collegiate title in

:46:44. > :46:52.Eugene. And Christina Manning. Third in the US trials, hanged Keni

:46:53. > :46:58.Harrison and Nia Ali, new personal best in Lausanne, in the Diamond

:46:59. > :47:08.League, of 12.58. Four automatic qualifiers in the final heat. The

:47:09. > :47:11.fastest losers, the four fastest losers, it is Sharona Bakker of the

:47:12. > :47:16.Netherlands at the moment. Six women here have gone below 13 seconds this

:47:17. > :47:22.season but not quick times this morning so it might be a stretch.

:47:23. > :47:32.13.1 is the last of the fastest losers at the moment, not a quick

:47:33. > :47:39.time. No British involvement in the semifinals tonight. Alicia Barrett

:47:40. > :47:42.could not make it on her championship debut and Tiffany

:47:43. > :47:50.Porter, disappointing. Who will make it through from this last heat in

:47:51. > :47:55.the first round? The two on the near side, Nigeria got away poorly,

:47:56. > :48:01.Manning going well and leading them out, and so to Nadine Visser coming

:48:02. > :48:07.out. Nasty from the athlete from Trinidad and Tobago. Manning takes

:48:08. > :48:16.it, Amusan tidied things up after a dreadful start. The time is modest

:48:17. > :48:20.by her standards 12.86. And still down on the track is Deborah John

:48:21. > :48:26.and that looked very unpleasant, tangled up in the barrier. Christina

:48:27. > :48:32.Manning the winner. The times had been fairly modest this morning,

:48:33. > :48:41.Colin. 12.87. Yes, they have been modest. I expected better hurtling

:48:42. > :48:45.from these ladies. If you look at the qualifying, the challenge for

:48:46. > :48:51.them, Andrew, it is quite reasonable. Especially for the top

:48:52. > :48:56.ladies. More than capable of doing the top four, but I think they all

:48:57. > :49:00.have to speed up rapidly. Later this evening in the semifinal. We expect

:49:01. > :49:06.that from them. Nobody is going to go through as the fastest loser.

:49:07. > :49:10.Terrible start from Amusan alongside Christina Manning, got back in the

:49:11. > :49:15.end, but left on the blocks. And she was so far behind, she still got

:49:16. > :49:21.herself under 13 seconds. Showing the real potential of the Nigerian.

:49:22. > :49:24.But she has to be much sharper in the semifinals. If you are not, this

:49:25. > :49:26.is an event where it is a real blanket finish and with that in

:49:27. > :49:37.mind, no mistakes can be made. STUDIO:, Manning with a great

:49:38. > :49:49.qualification. We expect her to be pushing Keni

:49:50. > :49:52.Harrison in the final. Yes, to be honest, this is looking good for

:49:53. > :49:56.Keni Harrison, she looks head and shoulders above the field. The rest

:49:57. > :50:03.of the girls probably more tightly packed between two and five. Yes, it

:50:04. > :50:07.is going to be interesting. What you make of what they were saying,

:50:08. > :50:13.Andrew said a little bit slower this morning? And it is dry and it is

:50:14. > :50:18.warming up. Do you think it was a little bit below par? Is it harder

:50:19. > :50:23.to get going. And there was headwind as well, Daley is right. But

:50:24. > :50:29.sometimes, the ladies are not used to racing at this time, the warm up

:50:30. > :50:33.would have started four hours ago, they would have arrived at the track

:50:34. > :50:38.and started their warm up, it is kind of early. But you have got to

:50:39. > :50:41.race, that is the way it is. Most of the Diamond League competitions are

:50:42. > :50:45.in the evening so it is a bit of a difference. You can never use that

:50:46. > :50:48.as an excuse. They used to hear people in the British team saying

:50:49. > :50:52.they did not do well because it was ten o'clock. You know a year before

:50:53. > :50:56.your biggest race is at ten o'clock, even if it is just the qualifying

:50:57. > :51:02.round, so you have got to prepare yourself. You are right. You guys

:51:03. > :51:06.had to get up really early. Yes, what Daley is saying, specifically

:51:07. > :51:11.when you have a time zone change or you know your programme early, I

:51:12. > :51:16.used to get up earlier, at 5am and get my body used to the being up and

:51:17. > :51:28.being alert at that time. And hurdle at seven a:m.. Bet you on your own!

:51:29. > :51:32.Yes, me and my dog! We had to get up early this morning as well for this

:51:33. > :51:38.session, in make up... Joking, joking! I know that is not hard

:51:39. > :51:42.work! Of course, it is Friday and that means tomorrow is Saturday, and

:51:43. > :51:48.it means that is the start of the new Premier league season.

:51:49. > :51:58.It has been a knockout stay in the Premier league.

:51:59. > :52:03.The second half, very much... The Premier league is back. Much of

:52:04. > :52:08.the day returns on Saturday at 10:30pm on BBC debt -- on BBC One.

:52:09. > :52:14.Gary and the gang back for you on BBC One at 10:30 p:m., I can't

:52:15. > :52:20.believe it, can you, football? No, back so suddenly. It is Arsenal and

:52:21. > :52:24.Leicester this evening. Denise's team, Arsenal, not Lester! Going to

:52:25. > :52:29.finish in the top four this season? You can only hope and pray! Let's

:52:30. > :52:33.continue with the athletics and the last of those heats for the women's

:52:34. > :52:34.hurdles, back out in the field and plenty of action to get your teeth

:52:35. > :52:46.into. Tony and Steve. Those are the standings after the

:52:47. > :52:56.first event. The 100m, Damian Warner out in front. The world leader of

:52:57. > :52:59.Germany, Freimuth. Kevin Maher the civil medallist, early days to thing

:53:00. > :53:06.of medals as the athletes have moved across to the Long Jump. Beautiful

:53:07. > :53:13.sunny day in the stadium. Des eight of these World Championships. Damian

:53:14. > :53:21.Warner, bronze medal last year. An eight-metre jumper, you can see his

:53:22. > :53:25.personal best 8.4. Three attempts. Here comes your first. Warner

:53:26. > :53:35.looking to get a good mark on the board. He has run three. In his best

:53:36. > :53:42.to catch on, he did 7.6. I had conversation with his coach, new

:53:43. > :53:47.coach this year looking after him. Damian has had this norovirus and he

:53:48. > :53:50.has been in isolation two days. So because of the nature of the

:53:51. > :53:54.illness, he has probably not been eating and drinking. The major

:53:55. > :53:58.concern is whether he has enough energy. You will be storing up like

:53:59. > :54:05.a jewel in your muscles ready for the competition. Just going off the

:54:06. > :54:15.board with 5.72. Hopefully he will get himself going. Beautiful morning

:54:16. > :54:19.inside the stadium. The crowd filling up towards the end of the

:54:20. > :54:25.session. Sadly, Deborah John is still down and receiving treatment

:54:26. > :54:30.after the final heat in the women's 100m hurdles, a nasty fall and she

:54:31. > :54:35.has been down for ten minutes. Care and attention being taken and we

:54:36. > :54:43.hope for the best. Deborah John, from Trinidad and Tobago. A very

:54:44. > :54:49.nasty fall. Christina Manning took that heat. The heptathlete Nadine

:54:50. > :54:56.Visser also going through under 13 seconds and also Amusan after that

:54:57. > :55:01.poor start and Herman. Nobody went through from that heat is fastest

:55:02. > :55:05.loser. These are the qualifiers for the semifinals tonight. No British

:55:06. > :55:10.athletes. Alicia Barrett and Tiffany Porter failing to go through, but

:55:11. > :55:14.strong American challenge and Jamaican challenge. Sally Pearson

:55:15. > :55:17.looking strong and Keni Harrison quickest qualifier. Four Americans

:55:18. > :55:25.going through in total and four Jamaicans. They have defending

:55:26. > :55:30.champion Danielle Williams. And further down, those are the

:55:31. > :55:42.contenders for the semifinals in the 100m hurdles. And they will go

:55:43. > :55:45.tonight. Back to this decathlon Long Jump, Kevin Mayer, and daily

:55:46. > :55:51.Thompson said he thought he was favourite to take the title here. He

:55:52. > :56:00.pushed Ashton Eaton so hard in the Olympics. Can Mayer take his first

:56:01. > :56:07.global title? First attempt at the Long Jump. Nice, he reached out long

:56:08. > :56:13.with his legs and he sat back behind his feet and nodding his head, but

:56:14. > :56:17.that is not a bad start for Kevin. Goodspeed on the runway. Reaching

:56:18. > :56:21.out ahead of him to try and hit the whiteboard. When you are coaching,

:56:22. > :56:24.the whiteboard is not a target. A lot of people try and hit the

:56:25. > :56:32.whiteboard. You want to take off with your foot and your hips. Into a

:56:33. > :56:44.slight headwind. 7.33 is not a bad opener. The oldest man in the field,

:56:45. > :56:48.33 years of age. And Trey Hardee, of the USA shy of his lifetime best by

:56:49. > :57:01.some margin. His season's best, you can see. It is all about the points.

:57:02. > :57:06.So getting jumps out. Something in excess of 7.40 would be good from

:57:07. > :57:11.Hardee. It looks around that distance for the American US

:57:12. > :57:17.champion earlier this year. He is doing exceptionally well, I think.

:57:18. > :57:20.At his age, 33. He sings a bit on take-off, reaching out. A solid and

:57:21. > :57:26.experienced performer and he knows how far to push it. Great accuracy

:57:27. > :57:29.on the board and two centimetres. A bit of strapping, a bit of tape

:57:30. > :57:39.around his need to give him stability. To his kneecap. 7.48, a

:57:40. > :57:44.season's best, and that is the way to open up at a decathlon

:57:45. > :57:48.competition, and into a headwind. A good start from Hardee. Two High

:57:49. > :57:56.Jump mats at the end of the stadium. To our left, and that is Robbie

:57:57. > :58:07.Grabarz, who has passed at the opening height of two metres 17.

:58:08. > :58:11.Auto qualifying this year it is 2.31 and he has done that. So looking on

:58:12. > :58:21.and taking his time and keeping his powder dry. So previous champion

:58:22. > :58:31.Bohdan Bondarenko also goes clear. Good start for him. 2.22. Certainly

:58:32. > :58:37.a contender. Hang on, is he hurting? He is struggling, is there something

:58:38. > :58:40.in his right ankle? He might just be taking in the sunshine because it is

:58:41. > :58:46.an early morning. Yes, we will see how that develops. So the man's High

:58:47. > :58:55.Jump qualifying. Back to this decathlon. Freimuth, of Germany. His

:58:56. > :59:09.best from this year, seven metres 60. He is the world leader. 10.53.

:59:10. > :59:13.He has the speed, can he invert this? Beyond seven metres.

:59:14. > :59:19.Accelerated into the board, got low and he threw his head back. He

:59:20. > :59:25.jumped 760 this year with the benefit of a plus 1.5 metre wind. A

:59:26. > :59:37.good ten, 15 centimetres on top of this job. He throws his head back

:59:38. > :59:41.and he drops in. Is that just precaution, being safe in the first

:59:42. > :59:45.round, 7.11? That is an element of that. You are either going to be

:59:46. > :59:49.safe and put a safe and on the board or you just go for it. You know

:59:50. > :59:56.you're run is accurate, put the points up early. Kazmirek missed out

:59:57. > :00:00.by just one place in Rio last year, taking that agonising fourth place.

:00:01. > :00:14.Looking to make amends at the World Championships. Valid jump. He jumped

:00:15. > :00:18.7.69 in Rio after running 710.68. So Kazmirek is another contender for

:00:19. > :00:20.the medals, we need to keep an eye on him, it is going to be tight for

:00:21. > :00:30.medals, I suspect. A season's best, that is more points

:00:31. > :00:35.than he has a hard all season, he will be happy with that. So Robbie

:00:36. > :00:40.Grabarz, a championship performer, he has proved that time and time

:00:41. > :00:45.again. Years one of the solid people in the team, he has been around the

:00:46. > :00:51.block a number of times, he knows how to look after himself, doesn't

:00:52. > :00:55.let things faze him at all. He has had injuries, some questions over

:00:56. > :01:02.whether his career was in jeopardy, but working with his coach, it is a

:01:03. > :01:06.good, tight team. He burst onto the scene in 2012 with a bronze medal in

:01:07. > :01:16.this very stadium in the Olympic Games, here he is in that jump.

:01:17. > :01:22.2.29, that was pretty good, got him a share of bronze with the Canadian,

:01:23. > :01:32.who was also a contender here. Robbie Grabarz, 2.29, a beautiful

:01:33. > :01:36.event, when you get it right, and he has a habit of that at major

:01:37. > :01:41.championships. Here he is, looking very relaxed, back in the stadium

:01:42. > :01:50.that he enjoyed so much five years ago. Robbie looking comfortable,

:01:51. > :01:54.looking very relaxed indeed. How do I put this? He is one of the masters

:01:55. > :02:00.of the field, one of the veterans within the field, everybody knows

:02:01. > :02:07.him, he knows everybody, so he can be that relaxed, just coming to

:02:08. > :02:10.work, high jump with your mates. Equal fourth in Rio, often forgotten

:02:11. > :02:16.when you are just outside of the medals, he does find a way of

:02:17. > :02:30.delivering, 2.31 is his best from this year, equal ninth. Good

:02:31. > :02:39.conditions for high jumping, we will keep an eye on him as the qualifying

:02:40. > :02:42.process unfolds. From one bridge to another, Ashley Bryant, good cheer

:02:43. > :02:50.from the home crowd in this second event. -- one Brit to another. The

:02:51. > :02:55.second event of the decathlon, the multi-eventers, the 100s were

:02:56. > :03:05.completed without too many mishaps, pretty much went to form. Ashley

:03:06. > :03:09.Bryant, he has specific coaches across all the events, based in

:03:10. > :03:15.Loughborough, has a season's best which is his lifetime best as well.

:03:16. > :03:21.So Bryant, first round of the long jump, second event of the decathlon,

:03:22. > :03:25.that is a big effort. It is not a white flag, what a shame. Great

:03:26. > :03:31.speed on the runway, great speed on the runway, moved up to Loughborough

:03:32. > :03:38.to work with Ashton and the coaches there. That is the smallest, 1.6

:03:39. > :03:43.centimetres! Just reached a little bit too far. Here is the question,

:03:44. > :03:49.does he go safe second round would just tidy it up, be a little bit

:03:50. > :03:55.more active on the board? Well, there is his coach, giving him the

:03:56. > :04:02.feedback that it was a tiny margin of foul, 1.6 centimetres. He just

:04:03. > :04:08.has to move his run-up back a tired. That finger and thumb, move it back

:04:09. > :04:12.a little bit, the active on the take-off, I think that is what he

:04:13. > :04:19.was saying to him, trying to interpret the signals from coach to

:04:20. > :04:26.athlete, he will know exactly what he is talking about, a superb job.

:04:27. > :04:31.7.79 is as lifetime best, he would have been challenging that for sure.

:04:32. > :04:41.Two jumps remaining four Ashley Bryant. Back to the high jump, I

:04:42. > :04:46.mentioned him earlier, Barshim of Qatar, he has been superbly

:04:47. > :04:57.consistent this year, first attempt at 2.2 two. Wow! How much space

:04:58. > :05:08.between him and the bar?! 2.22, I think he jumped 2.30! So much

:05:09. > :05:10.daylight between Barshim and 2.2 to there, 2.40, he is the second best

:05:11. > :05:38.ever. ? Back to this long jump. Trey Hardee looking to capitalise on

:05:39. > :05:41.his first attempt of 7.48, can really release the handbrake here

:05:42. > :05:54.and run at this. A little slow on the approach may be. May be just

:05:55. > :05:58.feeling it a little bit, it is now that you want to capitalise, get the

:05:59. > :06:04.extra bonus points. It is two points per centimetre for the men, three

:06:05. > :06:12.points for the women, so if you can get a few more points, let's wait

:06:13. > :06:18.and see what the distance is here. 7.29, a bit of a stiff wind, minus

:06:19. > :06:21.1.3, maybe that is what he is feeling, you can hear the wind

:06:22. > :06:29.rushing past you, feel it in front of you, it can be a little

:06:30. > :06:35.off-putting. In the blue cap, the coach of Robbie Grabarz, helping

:06:36. > :06:38.Morgan Lake, we saw her go through to the women's high jump final,

:06:39. > :06:42.along with Katarina Johnson-Thompson, two women in the

:06:43. > :06:48.high jump final, never had a finalist in the women's version.

:06:49. > :06:53.Robbie Grabarz looking to do just that and book his place in Sunday's

:06:54. > :06:59.final, the last day of action here at the World Championships. Every

:07:00. > :07:03.evening session has been capacity crowd of 60,000, and I will tell you

:07:04. > :07:10.what, he will enjoy that if he can get a place in the final. We expect

:07:11. > :07:14.him to. A lot of waiting around in the high jump. That is what you do,

:07:15. > :07:19.you pick and choose your heights, you might take the first height,

:07:20. > :07:24.miss one, but he is stepping off, I assume he is getting ready to jump,

:07:25. > :07:33.he is taking the next height. Hopefully he will remember to take

:07:34. > :07:39.his cap off! I realised I had my accreditation of flapping around

:07:40. > :07:44.halfway down the run up once. Good crowd here, enjoying the sunshine,

:07:45. > :07:47.great conditions for athletics. Probably 15-20,000 people probably,

:07:48. > :07:52.it is a big stadium, a family affair, that is it, both eyes in the

:07:53. > :08:12.binoculars! So Damian Warner in this long jump,

:08:13. > :08:16.second event of the decathlon. So we saw that he pressed the abort button

:08:17. > :08:23.on take-off at the first attempt, Damian Warner, bronze-medallist in

:08:24. > :08:28.Rio. 7.67 he jumped in Rio, looks like he is attacking this with a bit

:08:29. > :08:34.more conviction. It is over seven metres, strong wind on the flag,

:08:35. > :08:38.Toni, that is against them. It is unfortunate for the decathletes, it

:08:39. > :08:49.is a pity they couldn't turn it around! Much better board. Oh, just

:08:50. > :08:55.stretch up through the air, delayed the rotation, pulls his arms in a

:08:56. > :09:00.bit short there. Again, over seven metres, there is is coach. 7.27, a

:09:01. > :09:08.much better jump. That is the longest we have seen so far in this

:09:09. > :09:13.decathlon second event. Damian Warner, good salvage job, that,

:09:14. > :09:25.there were? Stabbed in the first round effort. -- their work question

:09:26. > :09:33.marks after that first round effort. Much do they compete with each

:09:34. > :09:38.other? You do not do many decathlons, probably two three at

:09:39. > :09:43.most, so there is that opportunity to compete. Kevin Mayer chasing the

:09:44. > :09:50.jump of one, that is a big effort, he likes it! That is more like it,

:09:51. > :09:56.Kevin Mayer very quick on the flat, ran 10.67, new lifetime best for the

:09:57. > :10:03.Frenchman, with space to spare. As lifetime best previously in the 100

:10:04. > :10:09.was 10.81, said in Rio last summer, and Mayer going well. Just reaching

:10:10. > :10:14.a little bit, big last step, leans back and take off, he needs to get

:10:15. > :10:21.forwards. In his best decathlon, he did 7.60, so 7.37, an extra eight

:10:22. > :10:27.pints there, accumulating the point is nice and steadily. But it is

:10:28. > :10:32.tough into this headwind, so one third effort all out, I think. Right

:10:33. > :10:40.then, business time for Robbie Grabarz, the smile turns into a more

:10:41. > :10:49.considered, focused attention as he eyes up the bar at 2.20. On the

:10:50. > :10:58.outside of the track, lane 80 is stood in there, some 25 30 metres.

:10:59. > :11:04.-- lane eight he is stood in their funds, some 25 or 30 metres. This is

:11:05. > :11:12.a good insight into the moments before every field event. Robbie

:11:13. > :11:23.Grabarz, first attempt that two point 22, goes clear, nice start. --

:11:24. > :11:30.his World Championship campaign gets and away, a little nerve settler,

:11:31. > :11:37.Toni. Yeah, I think he has just been sitting around, good class, up and

:11:38. > :11:41.over, no messing about, let's get this party started. Robbie Grabarz

:11:42. > :11:46.does just that, really solid clearance. The importance of that

:11:47. > :11:50.jump should not be underestimated, looking to find a rhythm. We talk so

:11:51. > :11:55.much about that, I am sure that is positive feedback from his coach,

:11:56. > :12:05.looking to boost his confidence and get him ready for the next height of

:12:06. > :12:11.2.26. I wonder that is a lot of instruction, because Robbie is a

:12:12. > :12:16.student of the event, he knows that, and I think he will just be

:12:17. > :12:27.reinforcing the message is that he tells in day in, day out. The work

:12:28. > :12:33.on the track, I am sure he has done a lot of running as well to prepare

:12:34. > :12:39.himself for the jumping, hopping, bounding, sprinting. Robbie Grabarz

:12:40. > :12:46.looking in really good shape, and with only one medal for the British

:12:47. > :12:55.team, Grabarz, well, looking to double that tally. There are the two

:12:56. > :13:01.high jump mats, two consecutive pools. So Andriy Protsenko, he

:13:02. > :13:14.carried a foul at the opening height. Protsenjo, 2.22, first

:13:15. > :13:18.attempt, a contender for medals, that is for sure. That is better.

:13:19. > :13:25.They are feeling their way through these early heights, 2.31 is what is

:13:26. > :13:33.needed to qualify outright. We saw yesterday it was 1.94 for the women

:13:34. > :13:39.yesterday, but they only needed to jump 1.92 to get through. Protsenko

:13:40. > :13:46.made it a Ukrainian 1-2 with his team-mate, Bondarenko. We will go

:13:47. > :13:51.back to the high jump in a moment, because Trey Hardee is taking to the

:13:52. > :13:58.long jump runway in the decathlon, a busy couple of days for the

:13:59. > :14:06.multi-eventers. Hardee, then, second round. I am not quite sure what

:14:07. > :14:13.happened there, really short step, pulling back underneath. Doesn't

:14:14. > :14:16.look comfortable, maybe he crowded the board a little bit, didn't

:14:17. > :14:35.really complete the take-off. What I mean is that is drive the knee up

:14:36. > :14:39.and through. 7.48 in the first round, looks like he was taking it

:14:40. > :14:50.easy in the second round, 7.2 nine. He said he was going to pull it

:14:51. > :14:55.back. Vice Kai Kazmirek, is that the best jump we have seen so far? He

:14:56. > :15:09.has got a white flag, it looks close to. So Kazmirek looking good. He is

:15:10. > :15:14.not happy, he jumped 7.69 in Rio. Good on the board, some space to

:15:15. > :15:23.spare, but closer to the eight metres line, it would seem.

:15:24. > :15:38.A season's best from Kazmirek, 7.64. Might have got into it a little bit

:15:39. > :15:42.early. The Ukranian on the runway at this time, Kasyanov. One foul, he

:15:43. > :15:51.needs to get one in, but is he going to go safe or will he just run at

:15:52. > :15:54.it? Kasyanov in the second round. A shout from him, although he looks

:15:55. > :16:01.steady on the approach. Accelerate onto the board. Over seven metres.

:16:02. > :16:07.But another red flag under pressure. At this point as a coach, when you

:16:08. > :16:11.see two fouls, now you have to make some decisions. He just drifts

:16:12. > :16:16.forwards and he seems to dress -- drift across himself as well. Over

:16:17. > :16:22.to the fans and has a word with his coach. To see what they are saying

:16:23. > :16:32.to him. We can only guess. A welcome return to a colourful character,

:16:33. > :16:36.Ziemek, of Italy, he got injured before the Rio Olympics. So he is

:16:37. > :16:44.back and let's hope he is in good shape. How has that stayed on? In

:16:45. > :16:49.life sometimes, you are lucky. You hit it with the right level of force

:16:50. > :17:02.and it's just days. The ends of the bar, it is just flat and rounded. It

:17:03. > :17:06.should automatically off. Roll That is as hard as you can hit a High

:17:07. > :17:18.Jump with it staying on and very fortunate, Tamberi, of his height.

:17:19. > :17:24.It is a valid jump. And Robbie Grabarz, we saw go clear at this

:17:25. > :17:35.height. High Jump is taking some shade between jobs. This High Jump

:17:36. > :17:42.qualifying final on Sunday, we have the decathlon second event, the

:17:43. > :17:50.longer vent. And the far infield, you can see the women's discus

:17:51. > :17:56.qualification. Jade Lally, in eighth place in the first pool. If four

:17:57. > :18:06.people go beyond that mark, she is out. That looks likely, this is Dani

:18:07. > :18:14.Stevens. We saw her take this title, the youngest ever World Champion

:18:15. > :18:21.when she took the title and looking to qualify. Throwing well this year.

:18:22. > :18:31.The Australian. Over 65 metres, look at that. That is how to do it. Gets

:18:32. > :18:35.her balance across on the left blood and she turns, left foot down and

:18:36. > :18:41.she works her hip at it. Excellent. That is what you try to do, delayed

:18:42. > :18:54.the discus, work your hips and chest ahead and then really get a long

:18:55. > :18:59.pole. Dani Stevens auto qualifying, 65,56. I mentioned the throw from

:19:00. > :19:05.Jade Lally, she was in the first pool, earlier this morning. She had

:19:06. > :19:09.two fouls in her first two efforts. And this was her only valid throw,

:19:10. > :19:14.the third and final round of qualifying. Just a little bit

:19:15. > :19:20.together. Did not quite get her feet down as quickly as she would like.

:19:21. > :19:26.It is a throw shy of 60 metres, which she knows and we know she can

:19:27. > :19:30.go beyond that. It was a good, competitive response after two

:19:31. > :19:34.fouls, really feeling the pressure. Some positives to take from that.

:19:35. > :19:40.Just lines on the right toe. Her hip has got to go and it is of little

:19:41. > :19:47.bit late. It is catch up time with less force on the one kilo

:19:48. > :19:53.implement. In eighth place. 57.71. Outside the top 12. Watch this,

:19:54. > :20:00.after a foul in the first round, Sandra Perkovic, huge favourite to

:20:01. > :20:05.take the title here, did this. That is how to send the discus out, great

:20:06. > :20:10.flight, it lands almost on the 70-metre line. She is the only

:20:11. > :20:27.athlete who has gone beyond 70 metres. She will be pleased with

:20:28. > :20:34.that. World record in 1988. British record is still Meg Ritchie. 67.48.

:20:35. > :20:41.It gives you an idea of how good that throw is on 70 metres,

:20:42. > :20:47.Perkovic, auto qualification. It is one of the nicest days so far, day

:20:48. > :20:51.eight, and it is the longest session of these World Championships so far.

:20:52. > :20:56.Daley Thompson has joined Denise Lewis. It is all right for some,

:20:57. > :21:03.Tony, with their coffee! Isobel Pooley is sat next to them. She has

:21:04. > :21:08.had troubles with her ankle and she will have enjoyed the High Jump,

:21:09. > :21:12.seeing Katrina Johnson-Thompson and Morgan Lake go into the final. We

:21:13. > :21:20.wish Isabel the best in her recovery. Multi-event competitors

:21:21. > :21:33.and High Jump contenders, busy morning in the field. So shy of her

:21:34. > :21:39.lifetime best of 66 metres, she does not need all of that, a big screen

:21:40. > :21:48.from the French champion and she goes beyond auto qualifying. Massive

:21:49. > :21:56.throw from the creation is out in front, Perkovic. We have seen Perez

:21:57. > :22:03.of Cuba. Dani Stevens. And then Robert-Michon looks as though,

:22:04. > :22:15.somewhere in the region of 64 metres. Denia Caballero of Cuba,

:22:16. > :22:24.67.79. There is confirmation that Robert-Michon has achieved automatic

:22:25. > :22:28.qualification and is in the final. So the discus cage at the 100m

:22:29. > :22:39.finish is up the opposite end of the High Jump, Robbie Grabarz. Just

:22:40. > :22:53.keeping himself poised between jumps. This is a colourful jumper

:22:54. > :23:00.and a contender. He has been very strong. But not the best years of

:23:01. > :23:04.our this year, you just wonder whether they have realised it is not

:23:05. > :23:08.about a week in and week out performances, it is this event, this

:23:09. > :23:14.is where your season can begin and end. And if you get it right here,

:23:15. > :23:33.that is what people judge more than anything else. The German now.

:23:34. > :23:43.Mateusz Przybylko. He has found some consistency.

:23:44. > :23:50.No, 2.26 is this new height and a first-time failure for the German.

:23:51. > :23:54.Good curve, leaning away. But he takes off and he goes towards the

:23:55. > :24:00.bar more than he goes upwards so at the point of... He should lock and

:24:01. > :24:08.work the vertical weight and get up alongside the bar before going over.

:24:09. > :24:15.A little adjustment for him to make. Michael Mason with a perfect start

:24:16. > :24:21.to his qualification process. The Canadian. Getting up towards the

:24:22. > :24:28.business end. The bars at 2.26, automatic qualifying is two metres

:24:29. > :24:33.and 31 and they may not need all of that. Mason looking to keep the

:24:34. > :24:40.Green Card and he does with a first-time clearance in the early

:24:41. > :24:46.stages. -- clean card. Looks fast on the runway, Mason. Keeps his perfect

:24:47. > :24:48.record. Which again will be important later on in the

:24:49. > :24:58.competition when it comes to qualifying. Just about to share the

:24:59. > :25:00.news that Eric Kinnard of the United States, surprise Olympic

:25:01. > :25:16.silver-medallist, has pulled out injured. Ashley Bryant has taken to

:25:17. > :25:22.the Long Jump runway. For the second time. He had a foul in the first

:25:23. > :25:29.round but it was a big jump, he just needs to make that minor adjustment

:25:30. > :25:36.and move his run back. As we talked about earlier. Bryant, Round two. It

:25:37. > :25:41.is another big leap. He likes it, it is the white flag this time. That is

:25:42. > :25:47.good, he lengthened a bit into the board. Maybe when your eyes takeover

:25:48. > :25:50.and you try and reach for the board, not efficient, but it is difficult

:25:51. > :26:01.on the back straight with the wind coming at you. He has moved back,

:26:02. > :26:06.safe jump. Personal best of 7.79. It is 7.26 jumping into a wind, and a

:26:07. > :26:13.long way behind the plasticine. It bodes well for his last jump. He

:26:14. > :26:19.will make some adjustments. I think he has got another 20, 30, 40

:26:20. > :26:27.centimetres to come even into this headwind. 7.79 will prove difficult

:26:28. > :26:31.into a headwind but around 50 or 60 is good because that means the

:26:32. > :26:36.differential between him and the other decathletes stays the same or

:26:37. > :26:42.he can present to him -- into it. I don't think we will see many PBs in

:26:43. > :26:47.this Long Jump because of the wind. Ashley Bryant gets a mark on the

:26:48. > :26:50.board with one more jump to come. A bit of overcompensation, maybe, but

:26:51. > :26:59.he has to get it right in the third round. Tamberi. Second time

:27:00. > :27:11.clearance of two metres and 22. This is his first attempt at the new

:27:12. > :27:14.height of 2.26. A little odd, it looked like he had a stutter step,

:27:15. > :27:20.maybe that is pushing and shortening to get underneath the bar. We are

:27:21. > :27:26.not going to see it, that is the clearance. Not really getting the

:27:27. > :27:30.vertical that he needs. He goes into the arch and that is not high enough

:27:31. > :27:41.and he does not clear the bar. He laboured on the approach, Tamberi.

:27:42. > :27:48.Mutaz Essa Barshim, 2.26. My word, my word, my word. Both me and Steve

:27:49. > :27:54.sat Bolt up right. Fantastic! It even seems too far away from the

:27:55. > :28:01.bar. It is not a problem. Look at his knee. We talked about a rhythm

:28:02. > :28:06.earlier. So smooth on the runway. He gets an arch. That is beautiful. Can

:28:07. > :28:10.I use that word at this time of morning? Yes, it is close to 12

:28:11. > :28:20.o'clock. In the context of High Jump think, Tony. Yes, of course. More of

:28:21. > :28:26.Mutaz Essa Barshim. Carrying a foul, Sintnicolaas of the Netherlands,

:28:27. > :28:32.looking to get a mark on the board. Again, throws his head back a bit at

:28:33. > :28:36.take-off, does he get a white flag? A bit of suspense from the official,

:28:37. > :28:42.waiting until he is out. The rule is you have to wait until the athlete

:28:43. > :28:45.is out the pit and then you signal. Because they can walk out of the

:28:46. > :28:52.sand pit and negate the jump altogether. Pretty much self coached

:28:53. > :28:55.now, Sintnicolaas. Working with his friend and adviser. That is him

:28:56. > :29:06.coming down the stairs in the orange top. Trey Hardee now in the Long

:29:07. > :29:11.Jump, his third-round jump. Trey Hardee, season's best in the first

:29:12. > :29:15.round goes on the third round, looking to extend and get more

:29:16. > :29:24.points on the board. No, I think even he knows that is a little less

:29:25. > :29:31.and he gets a white flag. In the American Championships, he jumped

:29:32. > :29:37.7.43. But he has jumped 7.83 in the cab on before. The most perfect

:29:38. > :29:49.board! He might have shortened on the runway. When the wind changes,

:29:50. > :29:56.it can cost, but no improvement from his first-round jump at 7.33. David

:29:57. > :30:02.Warner, in the second round he got 7.27. Suggestions from Tony that he

:30:03. > :30:12.has been struggling with this dreaded virus. It makes -- it could

:30:13. > :30:15.be a long 24 hours if that is the case. He hits the board this time

:30:16. > :30:26.and looks like a better effort. That looked better, probably gaining

:30:27. > :30:31.confidence he can do that, it will be about taking it one event at a

:30:32. > :30:38.time. Good half-board, nice and steady, that is what you would like.

:30:39. > :30:43.Let's see what the distances. It amazes me how athletes do tend to,

:30:44. > :30:51.out of the corner of the eye, look at the scoreboard to see where they

:30:52. > :30:57.are. 7.44, much, much better jump. Yeah, a good job from Warner, he

:30:58. > :31:00.jumped further in Rio on the way to a bronze medal, so maybe just

:31:01. > :31:07.slipping slightly. This is the athlete who finished one place ahead

:31:08. > :31:16.of him in Rio, and he is putting together a very impressive first day

:31:17. > :31:22.in these early stages off of his sprinting of a lifetime best, but he

:31:23. > :31:27.needs more in the long jump. And he gets it, if it is a white flag. It

:31:28. > :31:31.is. That looked better on the runway, some of these athletes

:31:32. > :31:38.waking up a little bit and sprinting on the runway. We heard him let out

:31:39. > :31:45.a scream, we have not seen the result yet, though, 7.52, so that is

:31:46. > :31:50.really good, in perfectly still conditions, so got the advantage of

:31:51. > :31:56.no wind, but that is brilliant. His previous best was 7.60 so that is

:31:57. > :32:04.great, considering some of the others are a little bit below par.

:32:05. > :32:09.He was up on his 100m by 18 points, so overall a profit of two points to

:32:10. > :32:19.go into the shot put. And here is another contender, the world leader,

:32:20. > :32:23.Rico Freimuth of Germany. His best so far, 7.48, just behind Mayer, the

:32:24. > :32:32.Frenchman. That is flat, but long as well. Jumping off a Ben Slater

:32:33. > :32:43.there, that is what took him flat. -- a bent leg there. It is the free

:32:44. > :32:48.knee in France that gives you the lift, the harder you drive it, the

:32:49. > :32:57.more lift you get. -- it is the free knee in front that gives you the

:32:58. > :33:11.lift. 7.45, no improvement, but solid long jumping from him.

:33:12. > :33:19.Kasyanov now in the long jump with his coach watching an nervously,

:33:20. > :33:33.because he has two vowels in his opening two jumps and needs anything

:33:34. > :33:41.to stay in contention. -- two fouls. Something in the mid-s is what you

:33:42. > :33:54.are after Tuesday in contention. -- something in the mid sevens is what

:33:55. > :34:02.you are after to stay in contention. A wry smile of relief, he plants

:34:03. > :34:06.across himself just a little bit. He has haemorrhaged points there,

:34:07. > :34:10.because we know he is an eight-metre jumper when he gets it right, and I

:34:11. > :34:17.am sure he is thinking, why didn't I do that in the first round? Robbie

:34:18. > :34:26.Grabarz in the high jump, the bar has been raised to this new height

:34:27. > :34:32.of 2.26, first attempt. Yes! I thought he had chopped the corner

:34:33. > :34:40.off slightly, but absolutely another good clearance from Robbie Grabarz.

:34:41. > :34:47.Perfect sheet so far, looking good. Just snakes around the bar really

:34:48. > :34:56.well, what a great Archie has. -- what a great arch he has. Great

:34:57. > :35:03.timing, great awareness. Robbie Grabarz has had all sorts of

:35:04. > :35:07.injuries, he had his knee rebuilt last year. He walked into surgery,

:35:08. > :35:16.and the doctor couldn't believe he was still walking! Barshim taking it

:35:17. > :35:24.easy somewhat. Well, Barshim, his new weapon is consistency. We have

:35:25. > :35:30.seen that do some damage in the other vertical jumps. This was him

:35:31. > :35:39.earlier, let's have a look at how high he gets over that, it really is

:35:40. > :35:50.quite impressive. It is too easy, that is not fair! He makes it look

:35:51. > :35:55.so easy. I love the way he locks his sideline into the bar, whatever the

:35:56. > :35:59.height, and he gives himself so much space, doesn't get crowded, like a

:36:00. > :36:05.lot of the athletes do. And it is quite incredible, it will be a big

:36:06. > :36:10.surprise if he doesn't take gold here. Of course, we won't Robbie

:36:11. > :36:16.Grabarz to challenge him all the way, though. You don't get more

:36:17. > :36:17.relaxed than that between jumps, do you? It is about conserving energy,

:36:18. > :36:39.high jump requires the explosive approach. He has got two speeds,

:36:40. > :36:44.Barshim, Qatari born, really looking very good indeed, beautiful sunny

:36:45. > :36:49.day, perfect conditions for high jumping, no real wind to speak of.

:36:50. > :36:56.Huge standard sheltering them from any wind that is coming into the

:36:57. > :37:07.stadium. Robbie Grabarz very much in contention. The next height is 2.29,

:37:08. > :37:17.automatic qualifying at 2.3 one. A first-time of 2.29 is likely to be

:37:18. > :37:31.enough. There is Robbie, putting his spikes back on. Well, this is Chen

:37:32. > :37:35.of China, following a foul in the first round. That is quick, just

:37:36. > :37:44.inside the left sector, it is over qualifying, so Chen looks as though

:37:45. > :37:52.she has got a place on Sunday's final, 62.50 is the yellow line.

:37:53. > :38:02.Just cleared the left side but managed to catch it up with the

:38:03. > :38:16.throwing arm and 62.71, just beyond auto qualifying, good stuff. So

:38:17. > :38:23.Barshim is the second best ever, the world record of Sotomayor, he has

:38:24. > :38:29.tried it on a number of occasions. This was him jumping in Brussels,

:38:30. > :38:34.2.43, the second best leap ever, two centimetres off the world record.

:38:35. > :38:44.That is how good he is when he gets it right, that was 2014. He has

:38:45. > :38:48.jumped over 2.40 on a number of occasions. The world need that in

:38:49. > :38:56.qualifying, of course. And he will have two days of rest before the

:38:57. > :39:00.final. Let's have a look at one of his world record attempts, to put

:39:01. > :39:13.one centimetre on Sotomayor's 24-year-old world record. 2.46, how

:39:14. > :39:18.about this? It was a really good attempt, probably his best on that

:39:19. > :39:25.particular evening. And maybe, maybe that world record will go - if not

:39:26. > :39:29.here, but it is thought around the circuit that he is the man who will

:39:30. > :39:35.break the world record, if anyone can. But there is the matter of

:39:36. > :39:41.taking the title here. We talked to Christian Taylor of the triple jump

:39:42. > :39:47.about world records, and it should be a secondary thought, really, at

:39:48. > :39:53.the championships. Barshim, medals at the last two Olympics, nine times

:39:54. > :39:59.he has jumped over 2.40. Toni Minichiello, the master of coaching,

:40:00. > :40:02.the question - can he break the world record? After that

:40:03. > :40:10.introduction, I have to buy the coffees! He is the closest to it. If

:40:11. > :40:16.anyone can at this juncture, if anyone can, he is attempting it, he

:40:17. > :40:21.is having a go at the world record. His elevation is superb, his body

:40:22. > :40:26.weight, he is as thin as he needs to be, but he can produce so much

:40:27. > :40:32.power. I love the quote from him, high jump is all about sacrifice.

:40:33. > :40:38.You go to sleep hungry and wake up hungry. Talking about him being

:40:39. > :40:45.thin, maybe there is an insight into his lifestyle. I think that is

:40:46. > :40:52.probably more about hungry for motivation, hungry for performance.

:40:53. > :41:05.That was his attempt at a world record. But Barshim, yeah, just

:41:06. > :41:15.staying relaxed, let's really keep an eye on him and see how his

:41:16. > :41:18.championships unfolds. Looking really good, Barshim, big-name, big

:41:19. > :41:35.jumper, certainly the favourite. I wonder what he is thinking out

:41:36. > :41:41.there. You are not allowed your headset, you can't be listening to

:41:42. > :41:46.music, you just sit there with your own thoughts. You are just on

:41:47. > :41:52.similar, not quite coming off the boil, but just keeping yourself

:41:53. > :41:58.focused, not being too busy in your mind, kind of clearing the mind, I

:41:59. > :42:02.think, in many ways. Often medals are won and lost between jumps and

:42:03. > :42:09.throws, that is when athletes talk themselves into or out of good

:42:10. > :42:10.performances. So can Edgar Rivera of Mexico talked himself into a third

:42:11. > :42:23.time clearance at this height? Superb job, did you hear the little

:42:24. > :42:27.scrape? That is in tracking his foot across the floor, just as he put his

:42:28. > :42:33.jumping foot out in front, some people drag it across the floor a

:42:34. > :42:39.little bit, you hear the scrape. I love the psychology of high jumping,

:42:40. > :42:43.it is different, the vertical jumps, same as pole vault, but different to

:42:44. > :42:49.the other events in that it does not matter how high you jump, it is

:42:50. > :43:01.either a clearance or a foul. You could be ten centimetres over it, it

:43:02. > :43:04.doesn't matter. So Silva also looking for a positive mental

:43:05. > :43:07.attitude, and another good clearance, so maybe the high jumpers

:43:08. > :43:14.needing that little bit of impetus from the pressure of a third time

:43:15. > :43:22.jump. Sometimes in competitions, when somebody goes clear ahead of

:43:23. > :43:26.you, then you go clear. Everybody gets motivated because you see

:43:27. > :43:30.somebody jumped. Whether it is some sort of visualisation, as it were,

:43:31. > :43:36.somebody in front of you does it, so you have seen it. But there we see

:43:37. > :43:45.the zillion become the 20th person to clear at 2.2 six. -- we see the

:43:46. > :43:55.Brazilian becomes the 20th person to clear at 2.26. Thomas, a world

:43:56. > :44:01.champion from ten years ago, he is out, 20 Second Place, he will play

:44:02. > :44:08.no further part in these championships. -- 22nd place.

:44:09. > :44:13.Unusual body position. Interesting technique, he sweeps the right arm

:44:14. > :44:18.back to go into a flat position. Most of the time you talk about

:44:19. > :44:23.pushing that right arm upwards, but it is a fine line between style and

:44:24. > :44:28.technique, so there are basic things that really enable you to jump well

:44:29. > :44:35.and throw well. But again, sometimes as a coach, you can overcome the

:44:36. > :44:44.gate things -- you can overcomplicate things, but sometimes

:44:45. > :44:49.people can do one thing wrong but get the critical things right. So

:44:50. > :44:56.the next height, the bar has been raised to 2.29. We were alluding to

:44:57. > :45:02.the fact that the first time clearance at this new height, as we

:45:03. > :45:12.see some of the clearances across that previous height of 2.26, just

:45:13. > :45:16.looking down the scores, the results so far, 19 athletes have gone clear

:45:17. > :45:30.at 2.2 six. 12 will make it to the I think so. We have got that number

:45:31. > :45:33.of athletes and if you look at their records, we will see. A first-time

:45:34. > :45:42.clearance, that is really what you want. That's look at how many people

:45:43. > :45:45.have got clean records so far. Probably about ten people with a

:45:46. > :45:56.clean record so far in that competition. Over to the women's

:45:57. > :46:01.discus. Su Xinyue of China. She is in 12th place, so right on the cusp

:46:02. > :46:10.of making the final. That is a better flight. It is long. Good

:46:11. > :46:20.throw from Su. It looks as though that is also qualifying. 62.50. As

:46:21. > :46:32.the Chinese celebrate that. She has seen her team-mate Bin Feng and Yang

:46:33. > :46:38.Chen throw beyond 62 metres. The three Chinese throwers have made it

:46:39. > :46:45.through to the final. Su elated with that, congratulations from her

:46:46. > :46:56.team-mate. 63 on the dot. So Ashley Bryant. Good jump in that second

:46:57. > :47:03.round. A foul in the first round. But he overcompensated because of

:47:04. > :47:06.that marginal foul, 1.6 centimetres in the first jump. Overcompensated

:47:07. > :47:11.and he was way behind the board in the second round. And he is capable

:47:12. > :47:15.of going beyond seven metres 50 by what we have seen so far this

:47:16. > :47:20.morning. And you have to say he needs it. And this is his last

:47:21. > :47:25.chance. Three jumps only in the second event of the decathlon.

:47:26. > :47:32.Ashley Bryant looking to rouse the crowd and get their support. Right,

:47:33. > :47:37.it is time to pull together all those practice moments that he will

:47:38. > :47:48.have physically and mentally rehearsed over the recent months. He

:47:49. > :47:58.is up for this. Looking focused. Anything in excess of 7.26 is an

:47:59. > :48:05.improvement but he is capable of something big here. It looks good.

:48:06. > :48:13.It is a good jump. He likes it. Ashley Bryant, good on the board.

:48:14. > :48:18.Still a little bit to spare. But solid and he made the necessary

:48:19. > :48:24.adjustments again. It looks balanced, great speed. Slight turn

:48:25. > :48:34.of the body. But it has cut the sand somewhere around... 7.44, it is an

:48:35. > :48:38.improvement for Ashley Bryant. The extra 18 centimetres gives him an

:48:39. > :48:42.additional 36 points. No more jumps, a bit of a chat to conclude what you

:48:43. > :48:48.are doing. That is a good third-round jump into that went. -1

:48:49. > :48:52.metre per second. It is one of the events where he does pick up his

:48:53. > :48:56.points, so he will have wanted a little bit more. But that is solid

:48:57. > :49:02.and it is about being solid throughout the performances. There

:49:03. > :49:09.will be two types of decathlete, the one going for a score and scores and

:49:10. > :49:12.that is probably what Ashley is, and the other decathlete at the top end

:49:13. > :49:16.he will be looking at each other and competing against each other because

:49:17. > :49:20.it is about how solid your performance is in relation to

:49:21. > :49:25.somebody else. Are your strengths strong compared to theirs, you

:49:26. > :49:28.stronger compared to their weaknesses? There is a balance and

:49:29. > :49:33.Ashley will be looking to put together another good score this

:49:34. > :49:36.year, over 8,000 points. Ashley Bryant can't win it in this Long

:49:37. > :49:40.Jump but he could have lost it, he has done well in that third round.

:49:41. > :49:52.That is Mo Farah enjoying the sunshine. Looking forward to the

:49:53. > :49:56.5,000 metres final tomorrow evening. It has been the best noise in the

:49:57. > :50:05.stadium when he has been running. So back inside the stadium, Nadine

:50:06. > :50:10.Muller in the discus. Just over that auto qualifying line again. And

:50:11. > :50:19.looking down, nine athletes have gone beyond auto qualifying. Got

:50:20. > :50:23.that about right. Interesting last night in the men's Jacklyn, there

:50:24. > :50:28.were 13 athletes beyond auto qualifying for the first time ever.

:50:29. > :50:34.Muller improves. It is also qualifying. Well, he has woken up

:50:35. > :50:43.again, Mutaz Essa Barshim. First attempt. Oh, my word. The gap is

:50:44. > :50:48.similar even with the bar going up three centimetres. He is looking

:50:49. > :50:54.absolutely superb. Extremely relaxed. Minimum energy. And that

:50:55. > :51:01.could be the last we save him. Because that may be enough to take

:51:02. > :51:05.him through the Sunday's final this jump of 7.29, he is nowhere near

:51:06. > :51:12.that, he has absolutely flown over that. Brilliant jump from the world

:51:13. > :51:21.leader. So here is the qualifiers for that

:51:22. > :51:25.discus final. Sandra Perkovic, one of the longest throws in the history

:51:26. > :51:29.of the event, just closing in on 70 metres, four metres ahead of the

:51:30. > :51:34.rest of the field and stamping her authority and dominance. Perez and

:51:35. > :51:41.Stevens all content in the for the minor medals. Three Chinese

:51:42. > :51:46.athletes. No Jade Lally unfortunately, her best 57 metres

:51:47. > :51:54.and 71 centimetres. Shy of what was needed. That 12th place, 61 metres

:51:55. > :52:01.to get into that final. Here is an athlete who has delivered on more

:52:02. > :52:06.than one occasion is, the 2030 World Champion of the High Jump, he shared

:52:07. > :52:11.silver two years ago, Bondarenko of the Ukraine, he skipped the previous

:52:12. > :52:14.height and he may look back and regret that. Because that first

:52:15. > :52:21.failure puts him under some pressure. We were a little bit

:52:22. > :52:28.concerned the way he sat on the bed after his first clearance at 2.22

:52:29. > :52:31.that he had an issue or injury, but it just seems to have driven in his

:52:32. > :52:37.left arm and gone towards the bar and Cliff -- clipped it off. A

:52:38. > :52:47.clearance here at 2.29 would be good enough. As we look here at Lysenko.

:52:48. > :52:57.2.29 one is just 20 years of age, improving athlete. -- macro one.

:52:58. > :53:00.That is a really solid jump from the young Russian competing here is an

:53:01. > :53:07.authorised neutral athlete. Cleared to compete as a number of the

:53:08. > :53:13.Russian athletes have, the team not allowed, but some of individuals who

:53:14. > :53:27.have proven they have passed the various doping standards, a control

:53:28. > :53:33.that all athletes have to abide by. So, then, 44 is a crib, another

:53:34. > :53:44.contender, but carrying fouls so not the consistency he would be looking

:53:45. > :53:49.for in this High Jump qualifying. Does not get enough elevation off

:53:50. > :53:52.the floor and does not get up, he is frustrated with that, he knows a

:53:53. > :53:57.first-time clearance would probably have been good enough and now he has

:53:58. > :54:02.to go back and jump again. See how he drifts and leans towards the bar.

:54:03. > :54:06.Got to stay away. There needs to be about a foot of space between you

:54:07. > :54:13.and the bar, that is where you drive up weight and you go across. It is

:54:14. > :54:18.all about consistency. Protsenko won in the Diamond League but slightly

:54:19. > :54:26.inconsistent. When he gets it right, we know that he can content,

:54:27. > :54:36.silver-medallist in the European Championships behind his team-mate

:54:37. > :54:44.Bohdan Bondarenko. As we see Fernando Ferreira. Of Brazil. He

:54:45. > :54:50.fouls right across the board on his first attempts at the heights so

:54:51. > :54:54.far, I believe. And Ferreira needs a second time clearance again at this

:54:55. > :54:59.height of 2.29 to stay in contention. Sometimes, that happens,

:55:00. > :55:04.you do not get into your groove and you crashed through the bar. Taking

:55:05. > :55:09.two jumps at every height and hopefully finding his way through.

:55:10. > :55:14.We see how he goes later. Grabarz walking around and getting himself

:55:15. > :55:21.ready. Understanding what he is going to do. Probably rehearsing in

:55:22. > :55:27.his mind. He looks good, Robbie. He always

:55:28. > :55:32.brings a bit of an intensity to the High Jump competition. He is a

:55:33. > :55:36.prolific competitor. Olympic bronze-medallist, fourth last year,

:55:37. > :55:48.European champion. World indoor silver-medallist.

:55:49. > :56:01.Giving it too much of a clatter, first-time failure at 2.29, silver.

:56:02. > :56:09.So that is going to be reset. And the next athlete to attempt is

:56:10. > :56:17.Grabarz. Great view the athletes have as they turned the corner. They

:56:18. > :56:23.lock up. The high bar of 2.29. Standard doorway is two metres.

:56:24. > :56:32.Another foot above that gives you a feeling of what these athletes, the

:56:33. > :56:37.challenge that stands before them. Grabarz 29 years of age now. The

:56:38. > :56:44.joint British record-holder. First attempt at 2.29. That was not quite

:56:45. > :56:50.what we hoped for or he had hoped for, for sure. What went wrong,

:56:51. > :56:53.Tony? I think really not the rhythm. Not the rhythm we have seen in the

:56:54. > :57:00.early rounds running the runway. Not timing his arch. Needs to work the

:57:01. > :57:04.vertical a little bit more. Only five people have totally clean

:57:05. > :57:13.records. No need to panic. 2.29, he is well capable of. Yes, no need to

:57:14. > :57:19.panic, absolutely. Two more attempts. And it is the mindset that

:57:20. > :57:24.will give him the best opportunity. He has got to stay optimistic and

:57:25. > :57:29.confident. There is his coach. I'm sure he will have something to say.

:57:30. > :57:35.To help Robbie make the necessary adjustments. Maybe it is a rhythm

:57:36. > :57:39.and he can change his run. Quite often, it is the awareness of what

:57:40. > :57:44.went wrong and understanding it, changing it, applying it, which is a

:57:45. > :57:49.very complicated process. He will have these moments between jumps and

:57:50. > :57:55.it can speed up quickly after a foul because others go clear and you find

:57:56. > :57:58.yourself back onto the High Jump. Grabarz, that might suit him because

:57:59. > :58:03.there has been a lot of waiting around, we have seen that throughout

:58:04. > :58:11.the morning session. An insight into how the athletes have to be on

:58:12. > :58:16.simmer and have to have the mental alertness to just some things down

:58:17. > :58:21.and to be calm, and then turn on and be world class. It is a tough thing

:58:22. > :58:27.to do and Robbie Grabarz will need to do just that in his second

:58:28. > :58:32.attempt at 2.29, but we know he is capable. He is a pressure jumper. He

:58:33. > :58:36.has got about a five-minute, six minute wait, seven people need to

:58:37. > :58:40.take second attempt that this height, Bohdan Bondarenko is one of

:58:41. > :58:48.those. Second attempt at 2.29, that was better. He accelerated onto his

:58:49. > :58:55.take-off leg and he had the space to clear. And he looks relieved.

:58:56. > :58:59.Wearing odd shoes, two shoes, different ones, probably preferring

:59:00. > :59:02.one to the other. It will be fundamentally the same shoe, just in

:59:03. > :59:08.different colours. But basically, he will be more comfortable in one, the

:59:09. > :59:12.newest. But he ran so much quicker on the runway which makes me think

:59:13. > :59:17.maybe he was too casual and he did not respect the height. Now he has

:59:18. > :59:26.put the effort in and he has run much faster and he has converted the

:59:27. > :59:31.energy to lift. Tamberi, of Italy, with covering from that ligament

:59:32. > :59:35.tear in his foot last summer. Good clearance from the flamboyant

:59:36. > :59:39.Italian, look at him, he is enjoying jumping again. Great to have him

:59:40. > :59:45.back, he is such a colourful athlete. World Indoor Champion and a

:59:46. > :59:53.second time clearance season's best at 2.29. My Italia is not that good,

:59:54. > :00:00.I can't tell you what he's saying. I am very with -- I am very happy with

:00:01. > :00:02.my season's best, words to that effect! Tamberi is great have

:00:03. > :00:07.around, he does bring a lot of energy to his performances. He was

:00:08. > :00:12.really badly injured and is the clear that, we know the significance

:00:13. > :00:15.of 2.29, he may be back in the World Championships finals, that means you

:00:16. > :00:17.are back at the highest level of your sport and that is probably why

:00:18. > :00:36.it means so much to him. final, so Protesnko, also clear.

:00:37. > :00:44.Lovely jump. Really tidy effort for him, maybe slightly inconsistent

:00:45. > :00:47.sometimes, but he has one on the diamond league circuit, and that may

:00:48. > :00:55.be enough to get into the final. That makes him a 11th overall in the

:00:56. > :01:04.competition, Tamberi is in joint 11th, so they are right on the cusp

:01:05. > :01:08.of qualification. Tamberi indicating the half beard is coming back for

:01:09. > :01:13.the final, it has been his trademark for a good few years now, the more

:01:14. > :01:22.clean cut image of Robbie Grabarz, looking sharp. These two tidy up a

:01:23. > :01:31.little bit. Wang of China, better jump for him. So this will build the

:01:32. > :01:35.pressure on to the British athlete, Robbie Grabarz, seeing lots of

:01:36. > :01:45.athletes go clear at the second time of asking me push the need for a

:01:46. > :01:50.clearance of 2.31. Just looking down the computer, 12 athletes now clear

:01:51. > :01:56.at 2.29, and Robbie isn't one of them yet. It is actually 13 clear,

:01:57. > :02:02.we have two people in 13th place, so those Xs are going to prove

:02:03. > :02:17.critical, can Robbie be another want to go into joint 12th? Randhawa,

:02:18. > :02:24.also on a foul. He will have seen those two efforts, you said earlier,

:02:25. > :02:29.Toni, when somebody goes clear, quite often somebody else does.

:02:30. > :02:37.Second attempt, long strides, shortened, but a second failure. So

:02:38. > :02:46.one more attempt for him Tuesday involved. It is going to be a good

:02:47. > :02:53.final, isn't it? -- for him to stay involved. They may take more than 12

:02:54. > :02:58.if enough people clear the automatic qualification, and then if you

:02:59. > :03:08.haven't cleared 2.31, there were no failures up to 2.29, that will bring

:03:09. > :03:14.you through. But will they have the prerequisite 12 they need for a

:03:15. > :03:20.final? Silva goes clear, so 14 athletes now clear at this height,

:03:21. > :03:26.only 12 to make the final. So the destiny of Robbie Grabarz becoming

:03:27. > :03:30.clearer, at least what he needs to do, he needs a second time

:03:31. > :03:35.clearance, he will be aware of that, he will have watched on. He

:03:36. > :03:43.certainly needs to go clear and stay involved here, 2.29 is the minimum.

:03:44. > :03:49.So, then, as the pressure rises, so does this man, Robbie Grabarz, he

:03:50. > :03:54.has done that in the past. Good support at the end of the stadium, a

:03:55. > :04:03.nod of the head from Grabarz, he strides out for his second attempt

:04:04. > :04:13.at 2.29. Oh, yes, much better! Great jump. Under the circumstances. And

:04:14. > :04:21.very appreciative and supportive crowd watching on, Robbie Grabarz,

:04:22. > :04:30.that was 80s and jump, Toni. -- that was a decent jump, Toni. I am just

:04:31. > :04:38.looking at the card, we get a summary, but five people in first

:04:39. > :04:42.place, Robbie Grabarz in eighth, so the fact that he didn't knock the

:04:43. > :04:49.bar off in earlier rounds puts him in joint eighth position. Could be

:04:50. > :04:54.enough, that could be another. Runs the curb well, he had space,

:04:55. > :05:07.sometimes he steps sideways as well, he ran a really tidy curve, here is

:05:08. > :05:24.the reaction of coach bus coach bus -- coach Fuzz Khan. Robbie Grabarz,

:05:25. > :05:35.well, he can relax now. It is contagious, the fist bumping.

:05:36. > :05:43.Just what he would have wanted, the adrenaline would have gone up a

:05:44. > :05:47.little notch, and he does respond well when it matters, and that is a

:05:48. > :05:54.really good weapon when it comes to major championships. So here is a

:05:55. > :06:00.look at the standings after two events of the men's decathlon, long

:06:01. > :06:09.jump just completed, Rico Freimuth, the world leader, is the event

:06:10. > :06:14.leader, ahead of Damian Warner, the Estonian in third place. At the

:06:15. > :06:16.moment, Kevin Mayer, highly fancied, Ashley Bryant down in 16th place

:06:17. > :06:36.after two events. So the bar is being raised to a new

:06:37. > :06:45.height of 2.31. 2.29 not enough to separate the best of the world's

:06:46. > :06:56.high jumpers. That is group B, two groups of 15 athletes, 14, I should

:06:57. > :07:02.say, so 27 in total, in fact. They will be whittled down to 12 by

:07:03. > :07:08.raising the bar, and the cream rises to the top, with the crowd enjoying

:07:09. > :07:13.this long session on day eight of the World Championships. We have

:07:14. > :07:17.seen the decathlon under way, some British interest in this man in

:07:18. > :07:26.particular, Robbie Grabarz. Ashley Bryant in the long jump, the second

:07:27. > :07:32.event of the decathlon. He will go away and get himself ready for the

:07:33. > :07:39.shot put. I jump, forwarded metres, the only other evidence today for

:07:40. > :07:47.the decathletes. -- high jump, 400m, the only other events today for the

:07:48. > :07:54.decathletes. Unlucky, dragging the bar off. 16 people have cleared

:07:55. > :07:59.2.29, Robbie in joint eighth place, it would take four or five people to

:08:00. > :08:12.outjump him to go ahead of him, push him out, so I think he is sitting in

:08:13. > :08:22.a good position there. Gianmarco Tamberi of Italy, well, he has had a

:08:23. > :08:29.scratchy morning, a few fouls. We know he is an athletic competitor,

:08:30. > :08:33.world indoor champion, Tamberi, certainly want to watch, and he can

:08:34. > :08:39.adjust the fortunes of Robbie Grabarz. Second time clearance at

:08:40. > :08:47.the previous heights, a season's best of 2.29, looking to extend that

:08:48. > :08:59.by two centimetres. No. Not that time, not that time. It will spoil

:09:00. > :09:02.his card if he goes over on the first attempt, he obviously likes

:09:03. > :09:10.the second round, second attempt, I should say, Tamberi. Energy sapping,

:09:11. > :09:14.though. He is sitting in joint 13th place, which means he is right on

:09:15. > :09:20.the cusp of going out of this competition, so he really does need

:09:21. > :09:24.to clear 2.31. He has got two more attempt at this height, but if you

:09:25. > :09:31.want to be in the final, you have got to jump the height. Well, 2.31,

:09:32. > :09:36.a clearance would automatically take you in, no matter how many athletes

:09:37. > :09:44.go clear, because it is the mark that has been set by the IAAF as the

:09:45. > :09:50.automatic qualifying. Get over it, good coaching comment, ever use that

:09:51. > :09:57.one, Toni? Maybe I should put some of my coaching comments on T-shirts,

:09:58. > :10:06.save my voice a bit! I thought he had it, Lysenko. He got everything

:10:07. > :10:10.over bar his shoes. Well, no-one yet clear at this new height, that is

:10:11. > :10:20.the best job we have seen so far, look at that. -- the best jump. High

:10:21. > :10:25.enough, just not tidy enough. So bogged down Bondarenko running

:10:26. > :10:32.across the javelin runway, just using the outer lanes of the track

:10:33. > :10:43.to get his legs woken up somewhat. A tall athletes, 1.98 metres, six foot

:10:44. > :10:56.six? Bondarenko, 27 years of age, world champion four years ago. A

:10:57. > :11:05.lifetime best of 2.42, equal third best ever. Bondarenko, then, to book

:11:06. > :11:12.an automatic place in the final - and does! That is how to do it. Yes,

:11:13. > :11:16.good shake of the fist, I am in the final, that is done and dusted.

:11:17. > :11:24.Spikes off for the Ukrainian, previous champion. And those winces

:11:25. > :11:29.and potential injury woes that we so earlier in the competition, it looks

:11:30. > :11:38.like they have passed and Bondarenko looking good, actually. He will go

:11:39. > :11:41.into Sunday's final as one to watch. Anyone with previous championship

:11:42. > :11:47.success, they get a taste for it, come back for more, 27,

:11:48. > :11:59.statistically in his prime in high jump terms. So, then, McBride of the

:12:00. > :12:03.USA, one of only a handful of athletes who does have a clean card

:12:04. > :12:11.so far in this qualification process. Also to get a place in the

:12:12. > :12:17.final. That was an unusual curve he ran there. Sort of stepped out to

:12:18. > :12:25.step in, just softens the curve a little bit. You want the centrifugal

:12:26. > :12:29.falls to give you the rotation in the air, but he seemed to step away.

:12:30. > :12:36.If that cost him a place in the final, I think it is unlikely, with

:12:37. > :12:40.a clean record up to 2.29, he was sitting in second place overall. So

:12:41. > :12:55.probably going to be good enough, joint second place with four others.

:12:56. > :13:04.McBride there, as we see a foul, the authorised athlete cleared to

:13:05. > :13:08.compete here, Ivanyuk. Only Bohdan Bondarenko has gone to lay a at

:13:09. > :13:15.2.31. So count back likely to play a part in the athletes in the top 12

:13:16. > :13:23.who will go through to the final. So, then, looking dominant so far,

:13:24. > :13:31.Barshim of Qatar, easy clearances at all the previous heights, can he do

:13:32. > :13:38.it again? Yes, he can! That is the end of his morning's work. Thank

:13:39. > :13:41.you! What a display of high jumping, it looks steady and slow on the

:13:42. > :13:47.runway, great confidence, pops over the bar, so much clearance, a

:13:48. > :13:53.pleasure to watch. That is going to be a great final. Ear as won six out

:13:54. > :13:58.of six competitions and does that count as a win? Equal first. He

:13:59. > :14:01.doesn't need to go any higher. But he does go into the final as

:14:02. > :14:13.favourite. Looking the best, at least. Unbeaten in 2017, Barshim.

:14:14. > :14:34.So ideal Onnen, first time clearance at the previous heights, but not

:14:35. > :14:42.this time. 35 years old, so twilight years of his career, maybe. I think

:14:43. > :14:52.you could still have been out there throwing javelin, probably retired

:14:53. > :15:01.too early! So kind of you, Toni! Robbie Grabarz waiting for his next

:15:02. > :15:12.attempt. Pyzybylko, energy raised in the high jump, Pyzybylko, 25 years

:15:13. > :15:18.of age. As improved this year, at taxpayers hard, good curve, good

:15:19. > :15:26.jump. Another one with an automatic qualifier. He has been superbly

:15:27. > :15:32.consistent this year, jumping over 2.32, lifetime best of 2.35, came

:15:33. > :15:39.into the season with a best of 2.30, so looking good. The significance of

:15:40. > :15:43.that clearance means that it pushes Robbie Grabarz down into tenth

:15:44. > :15:48.place, closer to that Qatar. Tamberi is another one who could push Robbie

:15:49. > :15:56.down the order. -- closer to that cut off.

:15:57. > :16:11.Tamberi, of Italy, second attempt. At 2.31. What has he got for us?

:16:12. > :16:17.Close to that, did not have the space. He did not give himself a

:16:18. > :16:21.chance. No, he still sits out in joint 13th place, frustratingly. He

:16:22. > :16:25.has one job to make the World Championship final. And he will know

:16:26. > :16:34.it, that will be the pressure he is going through sitting waiting for

:16:35. > :16:41.his jump. We want to see him involved. If not just to see how his

:16:42. > :16:52.half beard. A fan of that, Tony, athletes with that? That is Robbie

:16:53. > :17:00.Grabarz. He has looked good so far. And Grabarz, waiting patiently for

:17:01. > :17:18.his turn, his attention turns now to Wang Yu, of China. This is

:17:19. > :17:23.the qualifying process for the men's High Jump for the qualifiers on

:17:24. > :17:38.Friday, Grabarz has yet to confirm his place. Yu Wang, first attempt at

:17:39. > :17:46.2.31. He hit that with his arm first. In 11 overall. So again, that

:17:47. > :17:55.is good for Robbie, Robbie does need to clear this, 2.31, better to do it

:17:56. > :18:00.automatic. By 100% agree. Take any? Set out of the process here, he goes

:18:01. > :18:06.clear at this height and he is it in the final, no questions asked. If

:18:07. > :18:12.not, left back to the countback and the top 12 based on failures and his

:18:13. > :18:19.number of failures at previous heights or current heights and then

:18:20. > :18:22.previous heights. As we watch Silva, of Brazil, and another failure, we

:18:23. > :18:29.have only seen two athletes go clear of this new height, Mutaz Essa

:18:30. > :18:39.Barshim and Bohdan Bondarenko. And Mateusz Przybylko. Three athletes

:18:40. > :18:45.clear. And it is sorting out the talent in High Jump terms. A Long

:18:46. > :18:50.Jump -- a long way from that coming down on the bar, as Grabarz waits

:18:51. > :18:57.for the bar to be reposition at 2.31 and he gets ready for his first

:18:58. > :19:07.attempt. This, to equal his season's best. Grabarz, from the right-hand

:19:08. > :19:12.side of the High Jump mat. In the sunshine, with his coach looking on

:19:13. > :19:18.behind. Just one glitch, the first attempt followed by the clearance,

:19:19. > :19:22.the new height is 2.31, Grabarz. Striding out, he runs the curb

:19:23. > :19:30.while, but it is a fairly at the first time of asking. That jump

:19:31. > :19:36.leaves him in tenth place overall. Going to be some nervous moments.

:19:37. > :19:41.Rob Lee for me more than Grabarz as I try and follow it! -- probably. He

:19:42. > :19:46.got sideways and he leaned his back into that and his right hip is low

:19:47. > :19:53.and maybe did not work that non-takeoff knee hard to get his

:19:54. > :20:01.body position, soap crucial at these higher heights. Not much margin for

:20:02. > :20:09.any error. Time for his coach to leave his magic. Very expressive.

:20:10. > :20:13.No, it will make sense to Robbie, whatever we see and interpret,

:20:14. > :20:17.Robbie knows what it Means, information has been given, he will

:20:18. > :20:23.take that and walk away and knows what he has to do at this height,

:20:24. > :20:30.for his next attempt. We see in the film, gets into his running. He just

:20:31. > :20:34.needs to work the vertical a bit longer, it little bit height, jump

:20:35. > :20:42.up longer. Watch his right knee, it is kind of what Robbie does. He hits

:20:43. > :20:47.it and travels past it. You have to punch quickly and get the timing. As

:20:48. > :20:51.the High Jump competition goes on, you need to produce more energy to

:20:52. > :20:56.go up higher and higher. So the timing changes it little bit every

:20:57. > :20:58.time. You have to wait until your centre of gravity is up three

:20:59. > :21:03.centimetres higher before you go over the bar. So the timing does

:21:04. > :21:22.change and that is the skill of this event really. So 33 is a crow. --

:21:23. > :21:35.macro one. Eyeing up of 2.31 for the third time. He goes clear. Good

:21:36. > :21:38.clearance. Yes, thankfully, that does not affect Robbie, he was

:21:39. > :21:44.already above Robbie in the list. That, we do not mind. A young man

:21:45. > :21:57.improving, he is one to watch, just 20 years of age. 2.34 his best from

:21:58. > :22:03.this year. So, Tamberi, of Italy. Two fouls. Looking to capture all

:22:04. > :22:11.the positive thoughts he can as he strides out for his third attempt.

:22:12. > :22:15.That was too much on this occasion. Oh, unfortunately, he will play no

:22:16. > :22:21.further part in this competition. He knows where he was standing in the

:22:22. > :22:24.competition. 13th. So he will not progress to the final, that is it,

:22:25. > :22:32.that is his World Championships over. Yes, his rhythm is slightly

:22:33. > :22:40.off, for me. Just not the silky smooth we have seen when he jumps so

:22:41. > :22:43.well. Maybe that injury problem lingered a little too long in

:22:44. > :22:50.preparation for these worlds. We hope to see him back at his best

:22:51. > :22:59.someday soon. This is another man who is in the same situation, two

:23:00. > :23:12.fouls, Protsenko, of the Ukraine. 2.31. Third attempt. Not even close.

:23:13. > :23:18.So three fouls for the Ukranian. Well, it is a complicated card they

:23:19. > :23:26.were trying to decipher. Lots of connotations and he looks like he is

:23:27. > :23:34.out, Protsenko, and Robbie Grabarz is still very much involved. Getting

:23:35. > :23:38.ready for his second attempt. One pole slightly ahead of the other,

:23:39. > :23:42.there are two High Jump mat side-by-side in the Olympic Stadium

:23:43. > :23:48.for this meant's High Jump qualifying. Grabarz getting ready.

:23:49. > :24:02.He may not need it. In tenth place overall. That can change at this new

:24:03. > :24:11.height. So 62 is a crow, and Mexico. -- there are. He has proven some

:24:12. > :24:22.competitive mettle. The Mexican carries a foul in this height at

:24:23. > :24:32.2.31. This time clearance of 29 coming he is in eighth place.

:24:33. > :24:39.Rivera, second attempt. He came down on that. Great height, I thought.

:24:40. > :24:42.Very compact arch around it, most people go a long and straighten out

:24:43. > :24:53.their legs. He kills his knees in a bit. It doesn't affect Robbie in

:24:54. > :24:59.eighth place. Rivera. His failure does not affect Robbie's position,

:25:00. > :25:07.Robbie stays in tenth. Deceptively tall man, one metre 98, Rivera. He

:25:08. > :25:15.looks compact. He is a tall man. Tihomir Ivanov, of Bulgaria. So all

:25:16. > :25:19.of these attempts and potential clearances do affect Robbie Grabarz

:25:20. > :25:25.when it comes to counting down to the 12 athletes who will make the

:25:26. > :25:35.final. And there is one that will impact Grabarz. Ivanov goes clear at

:25:36. > :25:45.the second time of asking at 2.31. Well, if personal best for him and

:25:46. > :25:53.that is five athletes, Robbie. That jump Ashes Robbie down into 11th

:25:54. > :26:00.place overall. The next man up, Wang, of China, can again push

:26:01. > :26:04.Robbie down. Tension starts. But Robbie does have the opportunity to

:26:05. > :26:09.take it out of anyone's controlled by going clear at 2.31 and that is

:26:10. > :26:15.what he would love to do. If nobody else goes clear, he will make it

:26:16. > :26:27.through as the 12 and last qualifier, Wang. He can knock Robbie

:26:28. > :26:31.down this leaderboard. He gave him some plenty of space. Maybe too

:26:32. > :26:45.much. Second time failure for Wang Yu. A season's best of 2.31. Robbie

:26:46. > :26:50.has a season's best of 2.31 and he knows he can jump it coming he has

:26:51. > :26:55.done it already this year. Take it out of everybody's hands, Robbie,

:26:56. > :27:10.just jump the 2.31. Yes, Robbie is next. And he will know the

:27:11. > :27:16.importance of this jump. Silver, of Brazil, in the next mat along. No!

:27:17. > :27:23.Two fouls for the Brazilian. So it is going to be really tight for

:27:24. > :27:33.Grabarz unless you can go clear at this height of 2.31. Silver

:27:34. > :27:37.currently in tenth place, is that right, Tony? Yes, pool B is

:27:38. > :27:46.complete. Everybody is out or has cleared the necessary 2.31 so the

:27:47. > :27:53.competition focused on Group A. We have eight people left in that

:27:54. > :27:58.competition. Right, Grabarz. His coach to the right of the screen.

:27:59. > :28:07.Second attempt at 2.31 to go into the final. Not quite! Better attempt

:28:08. > :28:16.from Robbie. Really close. Close to clearing that. Right, so, two fouls

:28:17. > :28:24.for Grabarz. It is going to be an 11th place. On the screen. Just

:28:25. > :28:38.confirming that as we looked down on the leaderboard. Grabarz is in 11,

:28:39. > :28:44.ahead of Wang. And Wang is one competitor who can influence his

:28:45. > :28:52.position, as can this man, Robinson, of the USA. Ricky Robertson in 16th

:28:53. > :29:04.place. This is an important jump. For the American and for Grabarz. It

:29:05. > :29:12.would be a season's best, he has jumped 2.32 in the past, five years

:29:13. > :29:16.ago. That was close. I am at a loss for words, sorry! I'm getting

:29:17. > :29:20.excited with this competition. He was so close and he will know it. He

:29:21. > :29:25.will go back with renewed confidence, knowing that for him to

:29:26. > :29:29.get into the final, the automatic 2.31 is possible. He will know that

:29:30. > :29:34.unless he clears, he is out of the come petition. So a bit like Tamberi

:29:35. > :29:39.in the other group, it is do or die on these final jumps. Eight athletes

:29:40. > :29:51.in Group A will have another attempt at 2.31. So it is going to be really

:29:52. > :29:58.tight. One more jump for eight athletes to get a place in Sunday's

:29:59. > :30:02.final to join Bohdan Bondarenko who looked good, the Ukranian. Mutaz

:30:03. > :30:05.Essa Barshim looking good. Grabarz composing himself, he knows the

:30:06. > :30:14.challenge before him. Ryan McBride, of the USA. That is another close

:30:15. > :30:23.effort for the American. But that is three fouls for him. He should make

:30:24. > :30:26.it through. He sits in joint sixth overall in the competition. So

:30:27. > :30:31.because he did not fail a height earlier coming he sits in sixth

:30:32. > :30:39.place. So he is comfortable and he knows he is through to the final at

:30:40. > :30:43.this stage. Unless, of course, six people jump the 2.31 necessary and

:30:44. > :30:55.pushed him out completely. Most of the athletes are already

:30:56. > :31:06.ahead of him because he had a foul at 2.29, so as we watch if a nuke,

:31:07. > :31:10.unattached, authorised to compete, fowls, so he's already ahead of

:31:11. > :31:13.Robbie already -- Ilya Ivanyuk. Whether he'd gone clear on what

:31:14. > :31:19.didn't really affect him and it looked as though Robbie, well, it's

:31:20. > :31:24.going to go down to one or two jumpers in a little while who can

:31:25. > :31:28.affect him. But of course, as we said, he can take it out of their

:31:29. > :31:35.hands by going clear at this height of 2.31 metres. Think he can do it?

:31:36. > :31:43.I think we're looking at three people who can knock Robbie out of

:31:44. > :31:50.this competition. Yu Wang, Silva, the Brazilian, or Robertson. They've

:31:51. > :31:56.all got to clear the bar at 2.31, which would be automatic for them,

:31:57. > :32:00.but Robbie is in 11th, so if one clears, that drops Robbie to 12. I

:32:01. > :32:03.think we need two, so I'm not going to say it but I think you know

:32:04. > :32:15.exactly what I'm thinking, but I don't want to tempt fate at all. So

:32:16. > :32:19.slightly unclear as to exactly what circumstances Robbie Grabarz is in.

:32:20. > :32:23.One thing he does know is he has one more attempt at this height of 2.31,

:32:24. > :32:36.and that will take you through to Sunday's final. But the next jumper,

:32:37. > :32:41.Edgar Rivera of Mexico, is already ahead of our bars, so this doesn't

:32:42. > :32:53.really affect Robbie. -- he's ahead of Robbie Grabarz. 1.98 tall.

:32:54. > :33:04.Muscle-bound for a high jumper, a tall man, two fowls at 2.31. Attacks

:33:05. > :33:10.this hard. Not quite. So three fouls for him. So this next jump is one of

:33:11. > :33:14.the jumps that will affect Robbie Grabarz. You can see him getting

:33:15. > :33:24.ready for his third attempt. Wang knew of China has two -- Yu Wang of

:33:25. > :33:31.China has two fouls and sits behind Robbie Grabarz. That sixth place is

:33:32. > :33:37.his position on what is one of two pools, don't be confused with that.

:33:38. > :33:46.He is 11th overall. Yu Wang is in 12th. This man in 12th can push

:33:47. > :33:52.Robbie right onto the cusp of being eliminated here in the qualifying

:33:53. > :34:02.stages of the men's high jump. Yu Wang of China, two fowls so far. And

:34:03. > :34:11.another one. So he stays in 12th and that improves Robbie's chances to go

:34:12. > :34:15.through, and he does have one jumper to go after him. It doesn't actually

:34:16. > :34:22.need to take his jump now. I think he's through, isn't it? Oh, Silva

:34:23. > :34:27.could knock into 12th and Robbins had come knock him out. So if this

:34:28. > :34:33.is a failure, he doesn't need to jump? It's a good one, you are quite

:34:34. > :34:39.right, Steve, well done. Am glad you agreed with me, Tony. It's the first

:34:40. > :34:49.time this week! Silva of Brazil, third attempt. Failure that Robbie

:34:50. > :34:55.Grabarz will go through -- a failure confirms that Robbie Grabarz will go

:34:56. > :34:59.through to Sunday's final. He may take it anyway for extra practice

:35:00. > :35:06.and orientate himself. Interesting to see what he does here. I think he

:35:07. > :35:12.has to jump, because Robertson is in 16th place and he definitely has to

:35:13. > :35:15.jump, because if you clears the 2.31 automatic, even though it won't

:35:16. > :35:20.affect Robbie, but you have to continue the competition through to

:35:21. > :35:25.its conclusion. Or he could pass. He could run through. He could run

:35:26. > :35:30.through, he could pass. I'm sure he will have a clearance in his mind.

:35:31. > :35:37.It will be a confidence boost going into Sunday's final. This will equal

:35:38. > :35:41.his season's best. Third attempt at 2.314 Robbie Grabarz. What a great

:35:42. > :35:45.clearance. A roar from the crowd takes all of our speculation, pushes

:35:46. > :35:53.it to one side, and an auto qualifying. That tease him up for

:35:54. > :35:57.Sunday's final. The I don't know what you were worried about, Steve.

:35:58. > :36:03.I wasn't concerned at any stage... ! I knew he'd clear 2.3 one. That's

:36:04. > :36:07.the quality of him. That's the quality of Robbie, that's what he

:36:08. > :36:12.does, he's a big-time performer, he performs well, he can make things

:36:13. > :36:16.happen. That's the critical thing at the high-end of the sport. Don't let

:36:17. > :36:22.things happen to you, make them happen. Well done, Robbie Grabarz.

:36:23. > :36:28.Great job, great, great job. He's jumped higher in the past, but in

:36:29. > :36:32.the context, in the circumstances, a major champs on home soil, he's been

:36:33. > :36:44.an Olympic medallist on home soil in this stadium five years ago. Sharing

:36:45. > :36:51.a bronze there, so last jumper of qualifying high jump, Ricky

:36:52. > :36:56.Robertson, two fouls so far. He might knock out the Chinese athlete,

:36:57. > :37:06.Yu Wang. That nearly stayed up. Robertson goes out. 16th place for

:37:07. > :37:11.him. He needed to go clear that. He's distraught. He knows how close

:37:12. > :37:19.that was. So we have our 12 finalists, Robbie Grabarz

:37:20. > :37:23.sixth-place, actually, because it was a third time clearance, but the

:37:24. > :37:29.same height as the best of the rest, Barshim and Bondarenko, Przybylko.

:37:30. > :37:33.His coach will be pleased with that. He knows he's very optimistic about

:37:34. > :37:41.the fortunes of his star athlete, Robbie Grabarz. There's Robbie's

:37:42. > :37:49.little girl coming out to see daddy. What a lovely moment for Robbie.

:37:50. > :37:53.Future high jumper. His wife was a heptathlete. That is superb. A

:37:54. > :38:01.heptathlon connection everywhere in this World Championships, in every

:38:02. > :38:06.event. Well, the trials and tribulations of the high jump, and

:38:07. > :38:13.Robbie Grabarz, what a great end to this morning session. British

:38:14. > :38:19.athlete, another potential medallist. We've seen so many near

:38:20. > :38:29.misses for medals at these World Championships and Robbie Grabarz,

:38:30. > :38:34.well, a man who has medalled in the past, taking an automatic qualifying

:38:35. > :38:37.leap on the third time of asking at 2.31, in Sunday's final, the last

:38:38. > :38:44.session of the World Championships. It's going to be a big crowd, a

:38:45. > :38:51.supportive crowd. Robbie will enjoy that and the family watching on. A

:38:52. > :38:57.lot of pride at stake and that really does bode well for Robbie

:38:58. > :39:05.Grabarz's chances. But he will have his work cut out. Some really tough

:39:06. > :39:14.and proficient jumps there from, particularly from Mutaz Essa

:39:15. > :39:18.Barshim. So it's been a busy morning here this morning. The decathletes

:39:19. > :39:22.outsprinted and done the long jump and here's a summary after two

:39:23. > :39:29.events. Rico Freimuth of Germany is in the lead ahead of Damian Warner

:39:30. > :39:33.and Kevin Mayer, the Olympic silver-medallist in fourth place,

:39:34. > :39:39.expect him to be in attentions contention. Daley Thompson says he's

:39:40. > :39:47.the favourite, the Frenchman -- sees -- Daley Thompson says he is his

:39:48. > :39:52.favourite, the Frenchman. The athletes have moved across to the

:39:53. > :40:04.shot put sector. Ashley Bryant getting ready for his first attempt.

:40:05. > :40:11.Settles himself at the back of the shot circle. It's over 14 metres for

:40:12. > :40:20.Bryant. He's thrown 14.65 at his best, so that's a really good start

:40:21. > :40:27.for him. Ashley Bryant there, 7.26 kilo shot. A good start. Excellent

:40:28. > :40:32.start for Bryant there. Hopefully he can build on that and get a few more

:40:33. > :40:37.points. The shot put gives you 60 points a metre. That's what you're

:40:38. > :40:41.looking for. It's all about picking up points. Kevin Mayer going next.

:40:42. > :40:50.At his best decathlon ever he threw if the .76 in the shot put. He's got

:40:51. > :40:55.a PB of 15.97, so he will have done that in a different petition. Expect

:40:56. > :41:05.something over 15 metres here. That's a big effort, a big scream as

:41:06. > :41:15.well. From Kevin Mayer, the chest bump will stop wow, what an effort

:41:16. > :41:22.that is. First round he'd competed well in Rio last year, 15.7 six.

:41:23. > :41:26.This will challenge that distance. 15.72, a season's best, Kevin

:41:27. > :41:33.Mayer's decathlon going from strength to strength. That will help

:41:34. > :41:40.his fourth place position. Rico Freimuth, clearing the right

:41:41. > :41:47.shoulder for a bit of a... Did he stay in? Just, I think. So the white

:41:48. > :41:53.flag is raised and it's a throw in excess of 15 metres, it would seem.

:41:54. > :41:57.If you notice the vest, he's pulled the other struck over his head and

:41:58. > :42:02.across. Quite often sometimes people can catch the vest with their thumb,

:42:03. > :42:09.so it interferes with the throw will stop so what best to do but pull it

:42:10. > :42:15.out of the way. 14.85, the second best we've seen so far. Damian

:42:16. > :42:20.Warner, the shot maybe not quite as strong as Kevin Mayer's. Season's

:42:21. > :42:26.best, he's improved slightly this year, 14 metres plus would be good.

:42:27. > :42:34.For the Canadian bronze-medallist from Rio. Just got a bit stuck on

:42:35. > :42:39.the middle phase. Just glide out in the glide, have to land and go and

:42:40. > :42:43.he landed and stops. He got stuck in the middle and the right leg didn't

:42:44. > :42:48.really do its job and the right hip didn't strike and the shot pops off

:42:49. > :42:54.down the right sector. The right ankle has to go... Go! It doesn't

:42:55. > :42:58.and it got stuck and you are playing catch-up and there's no power. So

:42:59. > :43:08.Warner, 13 centimetres down on his best. Here's the confirmation of

:43:09. > :43:12.that high jump, very entertaining high jump qualification process,

:43:13. > :43:20.Mutaz Essa Barshim absolutely dominant. Bondarenko also looking to

:43:21. > :43:24.the good. Well, Robbie Grabarz, he left his best until that third jump

:43:25. > :43:32.but it was a good clearance for him, also to go into Sunday's final. So

:43:33. > :43:37.there's your final three qualifiers and it's going to be tight for the

:43:38. > :43:47.medals, but Britain is involved, in Robbie Grabarz.

:43:48. > :43:51.STUDIO: That's all for our coverage on BBC

:43:52. > :43:55.Two for now. If you want to continue watching the decathlon you can do on

:43:56. > :44:00.the red button. We are back on air at 6:30pm tonight on BBC Two.

:44:01. > :44:02.Another great evening's action in store, culminating with the women's

:44:03. > :44:04.200-metre
