:05:29. > :05:36.margin. Nicholas in second. 10.62, a good start for Daley. And that's
:05:37. > :05:42.better. That's better. What a response from the man. Can Daley get
:05:43. > :05:48.somewhere near the 15 metres and 44 centimetres that we know he's

:10:33. > :10:37.forward to. Let's start by updating you with the de Kock one. He is the
:10:38. > :10:40.story of the multi-eventer for the men and Phil Jones has the story for
:10:41. > :10:43.this morning -- with verdict have one.
:10:44. > :10:51.Day eight, and the sun was shining and the decathletes took to the

:10:55. > :10:58.and early to see how it all unfolded.
:10:59. > :11:12.COMMENTATOR: Away cleanly. A great start. Look at the Frenchmen go,
:11:13. > :11:13.Kevin Myers. He takes it 10.17. A big personal best. He has seen that
:11:14. > :11:31.on the screen. Cleanly away. It is one of bringing
:11:32. > :11:37.them... -- it is worn. -- Damian Warner. A strong start for the
:11:38. > :11:40.Olympic bronze-medallist Damian Warner. And a timely personal best
:11:41. > :11:51.from France's Kevin Maher. Next, the athletes took to the pit
:11:52. > :11:54.for the long jump. Current world leader of Germany set the benchmark
:11:55. > :12:01.with a jump of seven metres .40 eight. Damien won a took world get
:12:02. > :12:07.into his stride, but produced this on his third attempt - a distance of
:12:08. > :12:10.seven metres 44. He was looking to build on his 100m personal bests and
:12:11. > :12:17.attacked the wrong way to record this effort of seven metres 52. He
:12:18. > :12:21.dug deep in front of noisy home support. His third jump of seven
:12:22. > :12:26.metres 44 with his best, and he received the reception he deserved.
:12:27. > :12:30.And they stayed on their feet for the final event of the morning - the
:12:31. > :12:39.chop block. Ashley Bryant struggled to get paste to the leaders -- the
:12:40. > :12:51.shot put. The Olympic silver-medallist, Kevin Myers, the
:12:52. > :12:56.poster boy of French athletics. -- Kevin Mayer. That put the overall
:12:57. > :13:05.leader under pressure to respond. And respond he did, with a throw of
:13:06. > :13:11.40 metres 85, Rico Freimuth. The USA's Trey Hardy put himself into
:13:12. > :13:13.medal contention. But one looked like he was feeling the effects of
:13:14. > :13:23.the Nora virus that he picked up earlier this week. He was out of the
:13:24. > :13:29.medal mix. STUDIO: These are the standings
:13:30. > :13:31.after three events. It is Kevin Mayer of France, the
:13:32. > :13:35.silver-medallist from Rio, he leads the weight from Rico Freimuth, the
:13:36. > :13:39.leading scorer in the world this year. -- who leads the way. The
:13:40. > :13:44.former world champion is in third place for the USA, Trey Hardy.
:13:45. > :13:48.Damian Warner is down there in six after a disappointing start to the
:13:49. > :13:55.day. Ashley Bryant of Great Britain in 17. The high jump competition is
:13:56. > :14:00.going on as we speak. Steve, good evening. Good evening, Gaby, good
:14:01. > :14:03.evening, all. This is a look back at some of the performances so far in
:14:04. > :14:11.the fourth of the dig have run events. Rico Freimuth of Germany --
:14:12. > :14:17.of the decathlon events. 1.99. Bronze-medallist in Beijing two
:14:18. > :14:21.years ago. Second time career, it's there, as he did at the previous
:14:22. > :14:26.heights. So, going well. The better jumpers are in the other pool, I
:14:27. > :14:36.should point out. Two consecutive high jump competition going on
:14:37. > :14:40.simultaneously. This is Trey Hardy. Twice a world champion in the past.
:14:41. > :14:51.He comes into this with bags of experience. Also 1.99, and also goes
:14:52. > :14:56.clear. The American. A big season's best there. Good time to do that, on
:14:57. > :15:00.the Ben ultimate event of day one of this decathlon. -- on the
:15:01. > :15:11.penultimate event. Really good clearance, this. That is 1.99 for
:15:12. > :15:16.the American. But the stronger jumpers in this group, Damian
:15:17. > :15:20.Warner, one of them. Personal best of two metres and nine centimetres,
:15:21. > :15:25.but we have heard of that virus that he picked up a few days ago. And
:15:26. > :15:26.that was a third time failure at two metres and five centimetres. Down on
:15:27. > :15:41.his best. So, what are slightly behind his
:15:42. > :15:48.best but Mayer has put together a fantastic first place score. This is
:15:49. > :15:56.his first attempt at two metres and eight centimetres, comfortably going
:15:57. > :16:03.into... Extending his lead certainly without Clarence, going really well,
:16:04. > :16:08.early days. The fourth of the ten events for Mayer but going extremely
:16:09. > :16:18.well, he has an extremely strong day two. Leading from the get go. But
:16:19. > :16:30.this event, we know that Kazmirek is a brilliant high jumper, 2.15 and
:16:31. > :16:37.ever he can get it right. Fourth in Rio, can he get on to the rostrum?
:16:38. > :16:45.Seasoned's best for him. Shaping up nicely for him and these points will
:16:46. > :16:53.be accumulated with the 100 metres, the shot put has already taken
:16:54. > :17:00.place. Mayer was not done yet, this was 2.11, the third time and no
:17:01. > :17:09.clearance. Three fouls. That meant Mayer had to settle for 2.08 but he
:17:10. > :17:18.might be on the personal best, here's en route for the gold medal.
:17:19. > :17:23.What you have seen without Ashton Eaton, what have you made of the
:17:24. > :17:29.competition? Mayer is fantastic, fantastic that the Olympics, this is
:17:30. > :17:35.his first decathlon this year and he is looking at the scores and 40 or
:17:36. > :17:39.50 points ahead of his best, but about anybody in the field so it
:17:40. > :17:48.looks like he has got the competition to lose and I think that
:17:49. > :17:56.Freimuth is doing very well and Damian Warner, he was affected.
:17:57. > :18:02.Sickness. Everything is 10% under. We will also talk about the British
:18:03. > :18:12.interest but it is the final of the women's long jump. We got up at her
:18:13. > :18:21.family a little bit earlier. Lovely to see all of you, including niece
:18:22. > :18:28.and nephew. We will talk to you later but I am sensing some
:18:29. > :18:36.nervousness? Yes. Some nodding head. I will talk to the sister, Esse, how
:18:37. > :18:39.is Lorraine feeling? She feels really good, she is excited and she
:18:40. > :18:45.wants to perform and show what she can do. There is an overriding
:18:46. > :18:52.feeling with the athletes that we will be with you on -- and a second,
:18:53. > :18:59.a lot of the athletes want to give their all? That is all she wants to
:19:00. > :19:03.do, she has worked really hard, she has had a lot of dedication and she
:19:04. > :19:07.really wants to show what she can do and obviously she wants a medal,
:19:08. > :19:12.that would be great but she just wants to do her best, really. She
:19:13. > :19:18.has just looking forward to performing in front of the home
:19:19. > :19:23.crowd. And her family. You are the worst one of the group! As far as
:19:24. > :19:33.the nerves are concerned? I think you are 100% correct! It is just
:19:34. > :19:42.like, when she is out there, I am expecting her to do well. If she
:19:43. > :19:48.makes any mistake or any foul, these are the things you pray against but
:19:49. > :19:53.as a father... It is the hardest thing, you cannot do anything about
:19:54. > :19:56.it. Angela, it would be lovely because none of you could see
:19:57. > :20:04.Lorraine winning the world medal a few years ago in person? It would be
:20:05. > :20:10.lovely to see her jumping very well tonight, she has worked really hard
:20:11. > :20:15.and we have been supporting her, and her friends and colleagues at work
:20:16. > :20:19.have been supporting her and it is just amazing to see her at the
:20:20. > :20:23.finals. It is really lovely and it would be great for her to get a
:20:24. > :20:29.medal. It is lovely to see all of you supporting a girl. Nathanial,
:20:30. > :20:37.how is she going to do? Your auntie, is she going to do well? The moment
:20:38. > :20:43.of truth! And he became a little bit shy! Annabel, are you going to wave
:20:44. > :20:49.the flag? Yes! That was the answer we were looking for! Just wave those
:20:50. > :20:57.flags! That is all we need to see. More support from the Ugen family
:20:58. > :21:04.and all of us, she will be wonderful, I am sure. Wave that
:21:05. > :21:08.flag! Absolutely lovely, great family support and a lovely line
:21:09. > :21:14.from her father, there is a little bit of him out there every time she
:21:15. > :21:17.jumps and you can sense the anticipation they have and they
:21:18. > :21:20.should feel confident with her performance, she qualified and third
:21:21. > :21:26.and has been winning medals on the world stage. She is not probable or
:21:27. > :21:32.possible, she has a real chance of getting onto the podium? Based on
:21:33. > :21:37.qualifications, conditions were not great but she qualified comfortably,
:21:38. > :21:41.she looked good and was running well so this is about keeping the mind in
:21:42. > :21:46.the right place and being ready to raise your game and be able to
:21:47. > :21:50.respond and I think Lorraine can do that. The conditions are nice, she
:21:51. > :22:00.has to be accurate. She has turned a corner, mentally. She has to
:22:01. > :22:07.penetrate that big three, Ivana Spanovic and Brittney Reese? What we
:22:08. > :22:11.have seen is some of those that are the big favourites to take the
:22:12. > :22:15.medals in this Championships have failed to do so and some of those
:22:16. > :22:20.folks who have been on the edge of the medals have come through and
:22:21. > :22:26.snatched them so she has a fantastic opportunity. One of the greats of
:22:27. > :22:30.jumping, Christian Taylor, won his third world title last night with
:22:31. > :22:40.his third jump, the American is a big favourite with the crowd, he
:22:41. > :22:45.calls himself an honorary but, he wears that 18.30 on his wrist, he is
:22:46. > :22:50.very vocal about beating Jonathan Edwards. It did not happen last
:22:51. > :22:56.night but yet another gold. He was very emotional after which, having
:22:57. > :23:01.his coach and seeing his family. It was quite tense, at some points he
:23:02. > :23:07.did not look like he had it in the bag? It was not a vintage Christian,
:23:08. > :23:13.you expect him normally to respond early in the competition, between
:23:14. > :23:19.himself and Will Claye, but emotional, I have never seen him...
:23:20. > :23:24.It was very much that he did not get the distance he wanted and
:23:25. > :23:28.recognising that medal. He is about to get his gold medal. And I am sure
:23:29. > :23:36.the crowd will show their appreciation. Christian Taylor! That
:23:37. > :23:45.is the appreciation. Christian Taylor. Another world gold medal.
:23:46. > :23:50.The preamble of the world record faded and it didn't turn into a
:23:51. > :23:54.tussle between himself and his team-mate, Will Claye, that made it
:23:55. > :23:58.even more sweet, even when not at his best, he still champion of the
:23:59. > :24:11.world. Christian Taylor used to this.
:24:12. > :25:30.So, another win for Christian Taylor, a trio of world gold medals
:25:31. > :25:36.and the world record still stands, he has talked about that a lot, the
:25:37. > :25:43.only thing left on his CV, that still belongs to Jonathan Edwards,
:25:44. > :25:50.22 years ago, 18.29. He is planning to jump in France next week. He is
:25:51. > :25:54.learning that up as an assault on the world record but for now,
:25:55. > :26:03.Christian Taylor is champion of the world. There was a five centimetre
:26:04. > :26:11.margin from Will Claye and Christian Taylor. Some great contests we are
:26:12. > :26:15.seeing here but yet again, we hear the American anthem in this stadium
:26:16. > :26:20.and if we have a look at the medals table... They are doing some serious
:26:21. > :26:27.damage at the top. And pulling well away from Kenya, who topped the
:26:28. > :26:31.table in Beijing. South Africa are becoming a force in athletics and
:26:32. > :26:36.then Poland and write down two nations with just one gold medal,
:26:37. > :26:40.including Great Britain that there is a spread across the nations with
:26:41. > :26:48.so many countries picking up either their first gold medal in 30 years,
:26:49. > :26:53.like Norway, but the USA, almost three times as many medals as anyone
:26:54. > :27:03.else. Michael Johnson did not expect them to do quite that well. Let us
:27:04. > :27:08.have a look at Great Britain's best, so far. We had Mo Farah winning the
:27:09. > :27:16.10,000 metres gold medal and we left the stadium with optimism, thinking
:27:17. > :27:27.there was more to come. But there was those fours, now, what if those
:27:28. > :27:37.placings meant points? Well, in the placing table, points awarded from
:27:38. > :27:40.1-8, this is official, not just ourselves making ourselves feel
:27:41. > :27:44.good, we would be in sixth place because of those placings and we can
:27:45. > :27:50.take some optimism from that and those athletes who came in fourth
:27:51. > :27:57.place, they are very young and up and coming and we are in this
:27:58. > :28:01.transition period, we used to rely on the likes of Mo Farah and
:28:02. > :28:06.Rutherford for these medals and these younger athletes are launching
:28:07. > :28:10.themselves onto the stage. Everybody does it, America spent a number of
:28:11. > :28:16.years behind Jamaica in the sprint and we are the same. And the big
:28:17. > :28:22.guns have left the stage and it is up to the young guns to take those
:28:23. > :28:25.places and it takes time, you have to be very fortunate for there to be
:28:26. > :28:28.a conveyor belt and I think they have done very well and they will
:28:29. > :28:35.take this experience into the next major championship. Was there any
:28:36. > :28:37.overreliance on those athletes? They mask the fact that at the time there
:28:38. > :28:43.were not enough athletes coming through? I would not say
:28:44. > :28:49.overreliance, those athletes were world beaters, they knew how to deal
:28:50. > :28:55.with this arena. Our youngsters need time, like Daley says, only this
:28:56. > :29:02.environment to learn how to conduct themselves and not get intimidated
:29:03. > :29:09.in the courtroom or when next to one of the big championship performers,
:29:10. > :29:13.Libyans or world record holders, they have to deal with it and that
:29:14. > :29:21.takes time, to learn what your way is. Those fourth places are very
:29:22. > :29:28.good, they are young, and we have been a little bit unfortunate, maybe
:29:29. > :29:33.some wrong decisions. Andrew Cottee, he should have been challenging for
:29:34. > :29:37.the medal. It was not meant to be and that is sport. It is the
:29:38. > :29:41.unbreakable nature of it and he was in great shape and he will be
:29:42. > :29:46.kicking himself that he could not challenge, but to be in the final.
:29:47. > :29:50.In terms of the mental side of the major championship, we have debated
:29:51. > :29:54.over the past few days about whether or not those athletes are
:29:55. > :29:59.intimidated? Has fourth place shown they don't have the mental strength
:30:00. > :30:05.to be here? Those athletes finishing in fourth place, none of them seemed
:30:06. > :30:08.intimidated and does post race interviews smacked of
:30:09. > :30:14.disappointment. They were aiming for the podium? I do not know where that
:30:15. > :30:19.came from, that they were lacking in anything. Whether that was
:30:20. > :30:25.motivation or mental capacity of physical ability to get into the
:30:26. > :30:32.medals. It is hard to get a gold, silver or bronze. We have seen world
:30:33. > :30:36.champions, Olympic champions, favourites, getting themselves into
:30:37. > :30:42.the final and not get a medal, it is tough and those fourth place dishes
:30:43. > :30:46.are an indication of what could be possible and future championships.
:30:47. > :30:52.We do the job of presenting all the information and facts about the
:30:53. > :30:58.British athletes but I think those athletes themselves, their personal
:30:59. > :31:05.coaches and UK Athletics, it will have to look at this and think, this
:31:06. > :31:09.athlete was fourth, in what context? Was it downfield? You cannot depend
:31:10. > :31:14.on that next year. With some more work, you might get the bronze? But
:31:15. > :31:19.the standard might rise. Look at all of this in context and take into
:31:20. > :31:22.account what might happen over the next year or two and the
:31:23. > :31:28.circumstances and what they need to do to be consistent and improve and
:31:29. > :31:34.take into consideration the discussion as well that even if you
:31:35. > :31:40.get all of this athletes to do what they are supposed to, that means
:31:41. > :31:46.somebody is going to falter, they will have an off day, hopefully not
:31:47. > :31:47.get norovirus but something will happen. Those things happen. You
:31:48. > :31:56.have to understand that. The biggest thing for athletics
:31:57. > :31:59.generally is injury and injury prevention, that is what curtails
:32:00. > :32:03.the progression of athletes usually. Staying healthy is a big thing, and
:32:04. > :32:07.understanding what works in your training and back off and went alone
:32:08. > :32:12.to increase. So there's a lot to take in. As you say, great positives
:32:13. > :32:16.from those. And the young athletes that were there and did so well on
:32:17. > :32:20.this page. Let's go back to this morning. It was the start of the
:32:21. > :32:27.women's high hurdles. There were five heats. Let's recap them.
:32:28. > :32:45.COMMENTATOR: Cleanly away. Going so quickly.
:32:46. > :32:53.Porter gets out pretty well, so does Simmons of Jamaica. Porter being run
:32:54. > :32:58.out at the moment, might not even get the top four. Simmons in the
:32:59. > :33:07.rally. That is the three. So, Porter is going to be sick. -- going to be
:33:08. > :33:13.sixth. Alison already out in front. Harris and so quick. Look at her
:33:14. > :33:17.move between the hurdles. The Belarussian athlete is on the
:33:18. > :33:22.outside. The Jamaican Thompson alongside Alison.
:33:23. > :33:30.A very good start in lane two, the young Jamaican. Nelson trying to run
:33:31. > :33:36.her down. But now Sir Lee Pearson stamping her authority all of this
:33:37. > :33:46.heat. -- Sir Lee Pearson. Look at the Australian, 10.73. The nearside
:33:47. > :33:54.of the line, Manning leading them out. A nasty fall for the
:33:55. > :34:03.Trinidadian athlete. Manning takes it. So, these are the qualifiers for
:34:04. > :34:09.the semifinals tonight. No British athletes in there. Tiffany Porter
:34:10. > :34:13.failing to go through. But a very strong American challenge. A good
:34:14. > :34:18.Jamaican challenge as well. Sally Pearson looking strong. But throw
:34:19. > :34:21.Americans going through. Those are all of the contenders for the
:34:22. > :34:28.semifinals -- four Americans going through.
:34:29. > :34:33.STUDIO: Sunny morning but great skies over the stadium, no sign of
:34:34. > :34:37.rain -- grey skies. Andrew Cotter and Colin Jackson are standing by
:34:38. > :34:42.for the first of the semifinals. That lady, Sally Pearson love this
:34:43. > :34:50.lady, great memories for her. Even though she won the title in 2012,
:34:51. > :34:56.she feels she has unfinished business in the major Championships
:34:57. > :35:01.because she missed the worlds after a horrible fall in the Diamond Lee,
:35:02. > :35:05.she fell and broke her wrist. She missed Rio because of hamstring
:35:06. > :35:09.problems. After those injuries, we felt that was her on the wane,
:35:10. > :35:13.perhaps she was going to retire. But she's come back and gradually had
:35:14. > :35:17.times have got quicker and quicker. It's really nice to see that. She
:35:18. > :35:21.has been frustrated from injury after injury. If she can return to
:35:22. > :35:23.very good form, which she is obviously showing here, and that
:35:24. > :35:32.season's best was that season's best was set here. Pearson goes in lane
:35:33. > :35:38.six. Nadine de Klerk seven. She took the European under 23 title over the
:35:39. > :35:43.hurdles recently -- Nadir Unal Visser. Felicity George, the
:35:44. > :35:51.Canadian. And then outside, the Belgian
:35:52. > :35:58.record-holder came through well in her heat to take the fourth place.
:35:59. > :36:07.We have focused on Sally Pearson. But we are looking at making
:36:08. > :36:17.Simmons, a strong Jamaican challenge. -- Megan Simmons.
:36:18. > :36:23.So, three semifinals in the 100m hurdles. Two only to go through
:36:24. > :36:42.automatically. And just coming into shot, Sally
:36:43. > :36:43.Pearson, Megan Simmons, for the first of the semifinals in the
:36:44. > :36:54.women's 100m hurdles. Cleanly away. A good start by Megan
:36:55. > :36:59.Simmons. The Jamaican athlete in trouble already. Sally Pearson so
:37:00. > :37:06.smooth and fluid. Coming away from the West. Sally Pearson the Olympic
:37:07. > :37:12.champion in 2012, what a run! 12.54... That was, well might you
:37:13. > :37:17.can always get quicker but in hurdling terms that was near enough
:37:18. > :37:21.perfect. You saw the big smile on her face. Huge relief from Sally.
:37:22. > :37:25.She knows what she's capable of. It has been really frustrating for her.
:37:26. > :37:28.I've been speaking to her quite a bit and disgusting bits and bobs.
:37:29. > :37:32.The only thing that's going to hold her back from getting a medal at
:37:33. > :37:34.these Championships will be her mind -- disgusting bits and bobs. She's
:37:35. > :37:49.got to believe that she is at the top her against a pillar near
:37:50. > :37:52.Ali had to work hard to avoid the pitfall, in the end she has done
:37:53. > :37:54.very well to take one of the automatic qualifying places. Look at
:37:55. > :37:57.that start! She really put us off into a lot of pressure, knowing that
:37:58. > :38:00.Simmons to her right is capable of very quick times indeed. Ali did
:38:01. > :38:02.very well to keep a call head and work her way through the field. She
:38:03. > :38:05.didn't rush and she didn't stress. -- a cool head. Mistakes are made,
:38:06. > :38:10.you have to put them behind you and what was the automatic qualifying
:38:11. > :38:15.mark. She has managed to do that with 12.79. Let's look at Sally
:38:16. > :38:18.Pearson. And Olympic champion, a world champion in the past, and she
:38:19. > :38:22.still holds this World Championship record. Look at how effective she is
:38:23. > :38:26.in every single one of those barriers. She pulls her trail leg
:38:27. > :38:30.through, a good, straight line. She puts her power in the direction she
:38:31. > :38:37.wants to go, nothing going from side to side. Nearly perfection in
:38:38. > :38:43.hurdling. Megan Simmons was beginning to look a bit ragged
:38:44. > :38:46.towards the end and she slipped out of the automatic qualifying. But she
:38:47. > :38:52.did come through, silver-medallist in Rio. Ali goes through with Sally
:38:53. > :38:58.Pearson. Visser and Simmons are at the moment the fastest of the
:38:59. > :39:02.losers. Two semifinals to come. From the 100m hurdles to the 400m
:39:03. > :39:05.hurdles. I'm delighted to say we have another gold-medal winner on
:39:06. > :39:09.the sofa. Corey Carter of the United States, congratulations on the
:39:10. > :39:15.victory last night, beating of course Olympic and world champions.
:39:16. > :39:18.And your American team-mate, Mohammed, into second and third
:39:19. > :39:22.place. How are you feeling? I'm just on top of the world right now. It
:39:23. > :39:26.was a crazy race against some amazing athletes. And we came out on
:39:27. > :39:31.top. It's such a blessing, I'm so grateful right now. We really enjoy
:39:32. > :39:35.the race. It was a fantastic experience in the stadium. And
:39:36. > :39:41.really widely supported. The British team captain Elder Doyle was in
:39:42. > :39:45.there as well. -- Eid Doyle. Talk is what is going through your mind and
:39:46. > :39:52.strategy at the race, and your lame position. Being in lane nine -- lame
:39:53. > :39:56.position. I knew I had to take the first 200 out really hard. Everybody
:39:57. > :40:01.was already facing by. I wouldn't know where I was until I got to the
:40:02. > :40:05.lane. My goal is to go 15th or sixth, but I messed up and hold back
:40:06. > :40:12.hurdle six and my coach wasn't happy about that. I top myself, you have
:40:13. > :40:15.to get to the finish. What's I got to hurdle eight I felt like I was in
:40:16. > :40:21.no man's land, I do feel anyone next to me. Coming off here I can feel
:40:22. > :40:25.myself, I was going to have to fight to the finish. Once I got off hurdle
:40:26. > :40:29.pen I pushed myself all the way through the line. In the 400
:40:30. > :40:34.hurdles, it's all about how you finish. You, that was the race.
:40:35. > :40:38.Brilliant analysis of your race. Just before the race, Michael and I
:40:39. > :40:42.were chatting about Mohammed is being the Olympic champion. I said,
:40:43. > :40:47.if there is one person to come through and be an interloper, who is
:40:48. > :40:52.going to do it? He said, Kori Carter. Thank you! Absolutely, you
:40:53. > :40:56.ran a fantastic race. I thought back to last year, everybody talked about
:40:57. > :41:01.how lane nine is a terrible place to be, until Wayde van Niekerk Rins
:41:02. > :41:05.43.3 out there. It's not where you want to be, but it does give you
:41:06. > :41:08.enough to run your own race and focus on that without the disruption
:41:09. > :41:15.of looking at the other competitors. I may gain game and a chaser. -- I'm
:41:16. > :41:20.a gamer. I like to be on the inside because I like to hunt people down.
:41:21. > :41:24.I don't even make the final, I thought I had an opportunity, I'm
:41:25. > :41:28.not going to use lane nine as an excuse to not do what I was going to
:41:29. > :41:32.do. I try to use it to my advantage. My coach told me I would be a world
:41:33. > :41:37.champion, and I believe that, despite my lane. It was a fantastic
:41:38. > :41:41.run and a fantastic race. What we also liked was your game face on the
:41:42. > :41:46.start line! Clearly in the zone. Hang on a minute, I've got to do a
:41:47. > :41:51.smile, I'll do that right now, I'll smile, there you go! And now back on
:41:52. > :41:55.my game face! I was obligated to give a wave and they smile when they
:41:56. > :42:02.say my name. But when you are in the zone, its game time and your focus
:42:03. > :42:06.and your Intel mode. -- you are Intel mode. You are obviously a
:42:07. > :42:10.woman of many different sides. As well as your game face changing, I'm
:42:11. > :42:16.intrigued to read about Dru Love of squirrels. Not the most obvious --
:42:17. > :42:20.you will love of squirrels. You hunt them down and kill your opponents on
:42:21. > :42:24.the track, but Sorrells, what's all that about? I see a lot of myself in
:42:25. > :42:28.swirls. They are really intelligent but they are also fun and a bit
:42:29. > :42:31.crazy. -- in squirrels. They are just really cute and adorable and I
:42:32. > :42:38.connect with them on an emotional level bike I'm sorry that it's a
:42:39. > :42:47.hedgehog that it is the mascot here. That's OK! Kori, stay where you are,
:42:48. > :42:55.we have got the long jump final. The first jump... And it is a great
:42:56. > :42:59.opportunity for the rainbow -- Lorraine Ugen. She has a chance to
:43:00. > :43:07.take it in the field. That's a good start, but it's a foul for Lorraine
:43:08. > :43:13.Ugen. That's disappointing. But it looked a magnificent jump to start
:43:14. > :43:19.with. Oh, by the smallest of margins. 1.8 centimetres there. Very
:43:20. > :43:26.different conditions to those we saw in provocation. Of course, it was so
:43:27. > :43:34.wet during that qualifying round. The coach Jackson with a foul. Here
:43:35. > :43:38.are all the athletes. First up, Lorraine Ugen. That's a slight
:43:39. > :43:40.disappointment. Watch out for Spanovic, the European indoor
:43:41. > :43:48.champion. And the lead qualifier, Klishina. But the main protagonists
:43:49. > :43:54.are these two Americans. It is the duck is a battle between these two,
:43:55. > :43:59.Brittney Reese and Bartoletta have both won those titles in the past.
:44:00. > :44:04.But Lorraine Ugen is very much involved. Yes, the long jump final
:44:05. > :44:09.is right through the evening. And we will be watching that, we won't miss
:44:10. > :44:15.anything. Christina Manning in this second semifinal. Daniel Williams,
:44:16. > :44:22.the defending champion, in the lane next to her. She is in four, Manning
:44:23. > :44:27.in five. Talay was a bronze-medallist in Beijing four
:44:28. > :44:32.years ago, from Belarus. This youngster, 21, everyone is young to
:44:33. > :44:39.me! Thomson is a former world youth champion. Herman, of Belarus. The
:44:40. > :44:49.latest World Junior Championships, she is 20. 12.85 this year. And then
:44:50. > :44:58.a great performance from this young lady from Nigeria. She's at the
:44:59. > :45:08.University of Texas at El Paso. We have just seen Sally Piazon go 12.50
:45:09. > :45:12.four. -- Sally Pearson. You would think that would be in with a great
:45:13. > :45:15.chance of a medal in the final. What can the defending champion do here?
:45:16. > :45:21.Daniil Williams has really come into form. Just at the right time. Into a
:45:22. > :45:28.headwind around 12.66 at provocation this morning. That is Christina
:45:29. > :45:46.Manning next to her. Daniil Williams.
:45:47. > :45:53.Danielle Williams had a terrible start T defending chasm Ion is out
:45:54. > :45:57.of this. She's hurdling terrible -- the defending champion is out of
:45:58. > :46:02.this. She's hurdling terribly. I don't know whether something
:46:03. > :46:06.happened with the blocks at the beginning of the week, but Danielle
:46:07. > :46:11.Williams, who ran so well this morning, I was actually reading a
:46:12. > :46:14.piece where she said I don't get the respect I deserve for being the
:46:15. > :46:18.world champion. She didn't run like a world champion. She didn't run
:46:19. > :46:25.anywhere near as well as she did this morning. Right from the start
:46:26. > :46:30.when you hit the first hurdle like that your race is pretty much done.
:46:31. > :46:35.I thought she was caughting a little bit asleep at the blocks. When
:46:36. > :46:42.you're chasing, you're putting the pressure on yourself. It was not
:46:43. > :46:48.necessary for her to do that. Watch her out of the blocks here.
:46:49. > :46:52.I tell you what happened, Steve, I was watching, she did a very short
:46:53. > :46:56.first stride out the blocks. She's usually a little bit longer going
:46:57. > :47:02.into that first barrier. That caught her too far and away. And you throw
:47:03. > :47:07.up the lead leg hoping you will clear the barrier. That is what
:47:08. > :47:10.happened to her there. She'll be frustrated with that circumstance.
:47:11. > :47:14.Knocks back all the way. She's trying to get back into the rhythm.
:47:15. > :47:18.Unfortunately for her, she didn't have that time.
:47:19. > :47:26.Well, she was running well enough to have been a contender. Her last two,
:47:27. > :47:30.three races and the heats this morning looked good. She's next to
:47:31. > :47:35.mannen. Her race has gone there -- next to Manning. Her race has gone
:47:36. > :47:39.there, hasn't it? No time to accelerate again. The people in
:47:40. > :47:45.front of you are in their top speed and they are easing away from you.
:47:46. > :47:48.All you are doing is time after time generating speed between those
:47:49. > :47:54.hurdles. You can imagine how frustrated she'll be. Each hurdle
:47:55. > :47:58.she hits will cause a problem. It's been a pretty rotten week. We go on
:47:59. > :48:03.about Great Britain, think about the Jamaican camp. This was their last
:48:04. > :48:08.chance of a female gold medal individually. That is gone now. I
:48:09. > :48:15.don't think they would have won gold. Manning going through with
:48:16. > :48:21.Talay. The other Jamaican, 12.88, we'll have to see.
:48:22. > :48:32.Back to this women's long jump final. This is Darya Klishina.
:48:33. > :48:40.Jumped in Rio last year. Cleared to compete from that Russian
:48:41. > :48:44.team that is still banned so then opening job for Klishina. That's a
:48:45. > :48:52.big leap. Out towards seven metres. That is the best we have seen so
:48:53. > :48:57.far. Ivana Spanovic, of Serbia. She also jumped way out to seven metres.
:48:58. > :49:02.It was a foul for the European indoor champion.
:49:03. > :49:11.Klishina, good on the board and has put a mark out here.
:49:12. > :49:17.It's six metres 78. That will take the lead. They are expecting jumps
:49:18. > :49:25.in excess of seven metres. We are in the first round.
:49:26. > :49:35.There's Lorraine Ugen looking on. And a little bit earlier this
:49:36. > :49:39.evening Corey Carter got her gold medal. Tell us your emotions when
:49:40. > :49:45.you are stepping up here to get your medal? It was a great moment. It
:49:46. > :49:48.culminated this season of all the hard work and sacrifice that me, my
:49:49. > :49:52.team-mates have put in. For it to pay off and finally get that gold
:49:53. > :49:58.medal, it is such a big moment for me. I have two very quick questions.
:49:59. > :50:02.We have seen so many 400 metres hurdlers lose it because of their
:50:03. > :50:10.technique, how much pure hurdling do you do? Secondly, Harrison does
:50:11. > :50:18.hurdles, she can do both - is she ever going to come back? I also do
:50:19. > :50:23.both hurdles and I did both hurdles in college, so I think I bring it,
:50:24. > :50:26.we do a lot of hurdle work. The coach makes sure we are working both
:50:27. > :50:32.legs. He's very technical. He's all about
:50:33. > :50:40.the touchdowns. That brings confidence when I do the 400
:50:41. > :50:49.hurdles. I think she will come back to the 400 hurdles. We have banter
:50:50. > :50:55.WHO can be the -- about who can be the best. She looked amazing, as
:50:56. > :50:59.always. I imagine being the world record-holder is not enough for her
:51:00. > :51:08.because she's not got that global medal yet. Your performance must
:51:09. > :51:12.have inspired her. She's such a worker. She's always grinding and
:51:13. > :51:18.looking to make herself better. If the coach tells her to do one, she
:51:19. > :51:21.does two. She is always asking questions about who get better. I
:51:22. > :51:26.have no doubt she'll come out with a gold here. She's got to get through
:51:27. > :51:31.this semifinal. As we can see the hurdles are so unpredictable.
:51:32. > :51:35.Hopefully for you and your room mate it will be a double gold. Thank you
:51:36. > :51:44.for coming in and sharing your joy with us. And her room mate, is going
:51:45. > :51:57.in the next. Kendra Harrison goes alongside Dawn
:51:58. > :52:12.Harper Nelson. Both the Jamaican challenge is
:52:13. > :52:18.crumbling, the American challenge is tough. Christina Manning is through,
:52:19. > :52:25.and two here in Harrison and Dawn Harper Nelson alongside each other.
:52:26. > :52:33.Two fastest losers will go through. Jamaica have one clinging on in
:52:34. > :52:42.Thompson. Devynne Charlton of Bahamas, 21
:52:43. > :52:46.years old and new PB down to 12. 74. Scraped into the semi-finals.
:52:47. > :52:50.Sharona Bakker of the Netherlands. She is coming through as one of the
:52:51. > :53:04.fastest losers. Pamela Dutkiewicz can go very
:53:05. > :53:11.quickly. Semi-finalist in Rio. Former world junior champion from
:53:12. > :53:15.Norway, Isabelle Pedersen. Look out for these two - Kendra
:53:16. > :53:19.Harrison has not lost a race, any race since the 2016 US trials where
:53:20. > :53:26.it all went wrong and she didn't go to Rio. Shortly after missing out on
:53:27. > :53:30.Rio, she came here for the Diamond League meeting ran a new world
:53:31. > :53:39.record. Won that title in Beijing and so
:53:40. > :53:47.nearly took it again in 2012. 200ths of a second behind, Dawn Harper
:53:48. > :53:51.Nelson. Hanna Plotitsyna, her personal best
:53:52. > :54:02.down this season, at the age of 30. 12. 89.
:54:03. > :54:07.And very possibly the last Jamaican standing, Rushelle Burton, hanging
:54:08. > :54:17.on to the fastest loser places. Rushelle Burton goes on the outside.
:54:18. > :54:24.So, again two automatic qualifiers and the two fastest losers at the
:54:25. > :54:29.moment, Nadine Visser and Yanique Thompson.
:54:30. > :54:37.Even the strongest of favourites and Kendra Harrison is that - all know
:54:38. > :54:47.that the hurdles, every time is a journey into the unknown.
:54:48. > :54:53.It can go horribly wrong. Danielle Williams has just found that. Look
:54:54. > :54:59.out for Pamela Dutkiewicz. Last of the semi-finals.
:55:00. > :55:03.There's a twitch there. That's Dutkiewicz.
:55:04. > :55:10.Dutkiewicz with an obvious little juder in the blocks.
:55:11. > :55:16.And a judder is enough to be a false start. If you relief pressure on the
:55:17. > :55:19.blocks that will be the end of Dutkiewicz. It will be really
:55:20. > :55:23.frustrating for her because she's been doing very well this season.
:55:24. > :55:30.So, she has been given this false start. She will be devastated. Final
:55:31. > :55:34.is at stake here for her. She's trying her best, isn't she? I mean
:55:35. > :55:39.Charlton went off after that, but Dutkiewicz with the obvious trigger
:55:40. > :55:52.for everyone else. Looked busy.
:55:53. > :56:00.So the officials study and I think, I would be very surprised if the
:56:01. > :56:05.shepherd'sis not coming for her. There's a green card coming out.
:56:06. > :56:10.That's a huge let off for Pamela Dutkiewicz.
:56:11. > :56:20.It's all fine. Deep breath. Nothing to see here. Move along. How did she
:56:21. > :56:25.get away with that quickly? I think because she didn't leave the blocks.
:56:26. > :56:31.She left them, if not in mind, but in body, and set off everyone else.
:56:32. > :56:35.Green card. Start again. Just a technical infringement, green
:56:36. > :56:39.card. We'll do it again. We have been talking about the lack of false
:56:40. > :56:45.starts at this championships and still there have been precious few.
:56:46. > :56:52.So, Harrison settles in once again, alongside Dawn Harper Nelson.
:56:53. > :56:58.Charlton, Bakker, Dutkiewicz, Pedersen, Plotitsyna, Nelson and
:56:59. > :57:03.Rushelle Burton. A Little Rock again from Dutkiewicz.
:57:04. > :57:06.Harrison will have to come from deep here. Harrison trying to get there.
:57:07. > :57:08.Nelson, also well on the outside. Rushelle Burton.
:57:09. > :57:14.Harrison is not going to get there. She's not going to get there. 12.
:57:15. > :57:18.64. Is she quick enough to go through?
:57:19. > :57:27.Well, we said before this race, what can go wrong in the hurdles? Dawn
:57:28. > :57:31.Harper Nelson is through. But is Kendra Harrison through? The
:57:32. > :57:37.qualifying time we are looking for, 12. 83. Dutkiewicz goes through
:57:38. > :57:42.automatically. Pamela Dutkiewicz goes through, with Dawn Harper
:57:43. > :57:46.Nelson and Kendra Harrison, 12. 86, by 200ths of a second, she is
:57:47. > :57:50.through. She is through to the final and Phil will be able to tell Hertha
:57:51. > :57:52.she's through to the final and she's talking to Phil now.
:57:53. > :58:01.Thank you. You are through to the final. This shows what can happen in
:58:02. > :58:05.hurdles, no matter how good you are? I am glad to have got through the
:58:06. > :58:12.next round. What was going through your mind? That first hiccup threw
:58:13. > :58:17.me off. I tried to make it through. You have done that. And now the
:58:18. > :58:22.finals, a clean slate, you can come back to what you have done for so
:58:23. > :58:26.long - dominating this event? I am excited for finals. It is my first
:58:27. > :58:32.one. I am really looking forward to get a job done. If you were to make
:58:33. > :58:36.a mistake good to get it out of the way now.
:58:37. > :58:40.We wish well for the final. Thank you.
:58:41. > :58:46.She was trying to maintain composure. From the very first
:58:47. > :58:51.barrier, she got very close to it. Didn't give herself enough time.
:58:52. > :58:56.Room to clear it. So she hit it flush with the lead leg. That wipes
:58:57. > :58:59.out all the speed generated from the blocks. It is very difficult because
:59:00. > :59:05.you have to make a decision whether you do chase and you push on or you
:59:06. > :59:10.stay relaxed and you just pull yourself through the field slowly
:59:11. > :59:13.but surely. You were talking about here, Andrew, the semi-finals, and
:59:14. > :59:17.of course your natural instinct is so chase, you know you are down, but
:59:18. > :59:23.that can cause more mistakes. She did clatter a few more barriers down
:59:24. > :59:26.there. Everybody else kept a cool head.
:59:27. > :59:31.Dutkiewicz will be delighted she took an automatic place. She's got
:59:32. > :59:36.Isabelle Pedersen on the line by 100ths of a second. The second
:59:37. > :59:40.fastest of the losers. I am hoping she can really put it behind her now
:59:41. > :59:45.and line up tomorrow with a clear mind. If I am honest with you, it
:59:46. > :59:50.will be in her brain. Each time she does a warm-up, each time she does
:59:51. > :59:54.any technical work, it will be in there thinking, yes, I got too
:59:55. > :59:58.close, I made mistakes, but I need this title. So much to talk about in
:59:59. > :00:03.this heat, first Pamela Dutkiewicz getting spare and coming through to
:00:04. > :00:07.take one of the automatic qualifying places along with Dawn Harper
:00:08. > :00:14.Nelson. A season's best time. And then Kendra Harrison, 12. 86 to take
:00:15. > :00:19.it by 100th of a second from Isabelle Pedersen. These are the
:00:20. > :00:23.qualifiers. Four Americans in there. Top three
:00:24. > :00:25.at Rio in the Olympic Games and they have four going in the final
:00:26. > :00:38.tomorrow. Back to this long jump final and
:00:39. > :00:42.Brittney Reese getting ready to take her first jump.
:00:43. > :00:53.Three times she's won this title in the past. She is the world leader.
:00:54. > :00:56.Chasing the lead of 678. May challenge for that lead. It is a
:00:57. > :01:02.valid jump. A little bit of breeze coming into
:01:03. > :01:08.the stadium here. It is fresh - it is slightly cool. The jumpers would
:01:09. > :01:09.like it a little bit warmer. Slightly awkward landing there for
:01:10. > :01:20.Brittney Reese. A big screen from her as she cuts
:01:21. > :01:28.the sand. That 6.75 for Brittney Reese. Here is your agenda, round
:01:29. > :01:33.two. Does she like it? Is difficult to tell from that angle, how
:01:34. > :01:42.foragers -- from Lorraine Ugen -- how far it is. It's another red
:01:43. > :01:49.flag. Oh, dear. Yes, sticking that take-off leg out, so it's a blocking
:01:50. > :01:53.legs, reaching it into the plaster there. She knows by that action that
:01:54. > :01:55.she is close to jumping well. Some words with the coach, making the
:01:56. > :02:05.adjustment. Big pressure on the rain in Ugen
:02:06. > :02:09.now. She has to have a third jump in the top eight to take part in the
:02:10. > :02:17.second half of the competition, the top eight only for six jumps. Sean
:02:18. > :02:22.Jackson doing his best to make those technical adjustments for Lorraine
:02:23. > :02:25.Ugen. STUDIO: In our interview with Kori
:02:26. > :02:29.Carter, she used a word which may have caused offence to a British
:02:30. > :02:35.audience. Our American colleagues have told us that it is a word in
:02:36. > :02:37.America which is commonly used to describe excitement, exuberance and
:02:38. > :02:42.enthusiasm, that was the context that she was using it in, but we
:02:43. > :02:47.apologise if it caused offence. Joining us in the studio, another
:02:48. > :02:51.American gold medal winner, Christian Taylor, third World Title.
:02:52. > :02:55.We are absolutely thrilled for you, thank you so much for joining us.
:02:56. > :03:00.How you feeling? Thanks, Gaby. I've been following two guys all week.
:03:01. > :03:03.It's a dream come true to, peer and spend time with this panel of
:03:04. > :03:10.legends. I even brought a gift for you guys. You already the best
:03:11. > :03:14.guest! I try to do something different, you know! I thought, why
:03:15. > :03:18.not make a lasting impression? It can say with you guys all week! Two
:03:19. > :03:25.we only have one to share?! It's like the Palu! With a third gold
:03:26. > :03:32.medal, you probably should have your own, Palu, really, you're on
:03:33. > :03:37.cushion! -- in your own pillow. Tell us about last night in that
:03:38. > :03:40.competition. All of the talk about world records. Actually when you get
:03:41. > :03:45.out there it's about delivering enough to win that gold. You,
:03:46. > :03:50.absolutely. I really took myself out of it, you know. It's really a dream
:03:51. > :03:56.of mine to become the best ever. I never want to take away from the
:03:57. > :04:00.winds and the experience. But really my side was only for that number,
:04:01. > :04:05.you know. I've obviously been paying attention to Will and the
:04:06. > :04:07.competition itself. I almost psyched myself out of the competition,
:04:08. > :04:12.that's the only feedback by coach has given me. He says, get out your
:04:13. > :04:17.head. You've been here before, compete to win. After that, see what
:04:18. > :04:21.happens. And that's what happened. After the third jump, oh, here is
:04:22. > :04:27.the third jump yet! You, I just relaxed a little bit. I saw the mark
:04:28. > :04:31.that I need to pass. 17, 60 something. When you've jumped 18,
:04:32. > :04:35.you know the feeling. I said, you've got to relax a little bit. I was
:04:36. > :04:39.hoping that we'll would respond a little bit at the end. I'm a
:04:40. > :04:44.competitor. I need to fight. Great emotion there. We'll talk about that
:04:45. > :04:49.in just a moment. It is the start of the women's 800m only final. Stay
:04:50. > :04:56.with us, Christian. We love having you here. Maybe more guests come.
:04:57. > :04:57.Let's and enjoy the semifinal. Adelle Tracey of Great Britain going
:04:58. > :05:06.in the first of It's great to see all three British
:05:07. > :05:11.women in the semifinals. Adelle Tracey is in lane nine. It's going
:05:12. > :05:20.to be a tough task for three. Two only will go through, the two
:05:21. > :05:23.fastest losers. This is lane five. We have missed Melissa Bishop of
:05:24. > :05:27.calendar, the world silver-medallist. She will be a real
:05:28. > :05:32.threat. And indeed with Wilson, who is having a brilliant season, the
:05:33. > :05:36.new American record-holder in Monaco, wasn't in Beijing two years
:05:37. > :05:40.ago when she was injured. She had a chance to win a World Championship
:05:41. > :05:45.medal. Of course, the likes of Caster Semenya and the top three
:05:46. > :05:53.medallist from Rio left to come. Wilson's job is to get through here.
:05:54. > :06:04.Hanna Hermansson of Sweden. Melissa Bishop, there she is. She was fourth
:06:05. > :06:10.in Rio. Silver medal in Beijing. Wilson, the brilliant American, Ajee
:06:11. > :06:14.Wilson. There she is. The 23-year-old. Adelle Tracey is on the
:06:15. > :06:19.outside. She has never broken two minutes. She did very well to make
:06:20. > :06:22.the World Championship team. She did that a personal best in qualifying
:06:23. > :06:27.for the Surrey final. Apologies to her. I think she will have to take
:06:28. > :06:31.that down another Notshe, Paula, if she's to have any chance, even if
:06:32. > :06:36.she's not in the top two, being the fastest loser, on paper she should
:06:37. > :06:39.finish sixth in this. She should. She is aware that she has bad the
:06:40. > :06:44.race of her life. She certainly has a very good chance to learn about
:06:45. > :06:48.personal best, to that elusive two-minute barrier here. Ajee Wilson
:06:49. > :06:56.doing it what you always does. Taking it out hard. Now she will
:06:57. > :07:04.slow it down. It is up to the shape of her life. She trains with
:07:05. > :07:12.Charlene Webster, who we will be in the next semifinal. The two are in
:07:13. > :07:17.great form. 57.82, strong front running. Their coach believes that
:07:18. > :07:22.making them all strong. Wilson is going to make it a real test. Look
:07:23. > :07:26.at Adelle Tracey, in a good position, running well. This is her
:07:27. > :07:32.chance to react, if she can, if she has it in her legs. Melissa Bishop.
:07:33. > :07:36.In the heats last night, that allow the field the bunch right up to the
:07:37. > :07:43.other girls. It's on them now to keep it moving. Adelle Tracey has
:07:44. > :07:48.been committed to this. The ship still looking nice and comfortable
:07:49. > :07:54.behind Ajee Wilson. Adelle Tracey has to fight in here. Wilson, look
:07:55. > :08:01.at how composed by American ears. Bishop, similarly so -- the American
:08:02. > :08:05.is. Adelle Tracey is on the inside. But Wilson almost cruising through
:08:06. > :08:13.here. Bishop trying to follow her through the top two into the final.
:08:14. > :08:19.In the end, it was 1:59.21. That was controlled, impressive, it was
:08:20. > :08:22.confidence running. Both Wilson and Bishop just confirming, Paula, the
:08:23. > :08:31.season that they are having and that, final we know that we have got
:08:32. > :08:33.Caster Semenya, Wilson has joined them, Ferring comfortably. Adelle
:08:34. > :08:37.Tracey did everything she could do. She had to go with the pace and she
:08:38. > :08:42.is attractive she could run a personal best. She might not be too
:08:43. > :08:47.far away from it, but it was a tall order -- to see if she could run her
:08:48. > :08:54.personal best. I don't think she did anything wrong. She tried to respond
:08:55. > :09:01.in the final 200m. This last 200m is about the big two. Ajee Wilson and
:09:02. > :09:06.Melissa Bishop closing the race. They tried to get bad, but they
:09:07. > :09:10.couldn't compete with these two. Ajee Wilson is just going from
:09:11. > :09:14.strength to strength this season. That run in Monaco where she really
:09:15. > :09:20.challenged by the Semenya down that straight made her believe a little
:09:21. > :09:26.bit more -- challenged Semenya. Adelle Tracey with another personal
:09:27. > :09:34.best, but it is only by a couple of 100s. Wilson from the Juventus track
:09:35. > :09:37.club in Philadelphia looking very good indeed. Let's confirm the
:09:38. > :09:43.result. It was less about the time, just the manner in which she ran
:09:44. > :09:52.there. 1:59.21. Bishop goes through with Adelle Tracey, another personal
:09:53. > :09:57.best. This is Ivana Spanovic in this long jump final. A big foul in the
:09:58. > :10:06.first round. Looking to get in mark in here. The lead. Still with
:10:07. > :10:11.Klishina, 6.78 metres. Spanovic is capable, though. And that is beyond
:10:12. > :10:17.its! That's a really solid jump out towards the seven-metre line. For
:10:18. > :10:22.Spanovic. The coach likes it. She looked almost unbeatable indoors.
:10:23. > :10:25.She jumped one of the best series ever, 7.24 metres, she jumped, on
:10:26. > :10:29.the European indoors, en route to taking that final. For Spanovic, it
:10:30. > :10:33.looks as if she may go into the lead. I think so. It is interesting
:10:34. > :10:39.she is carrying ankle strapping on her right hip. Her right hip is
:10:40. > :10:45.taped. She has got hip flexor issues there. She doesn't look completely
:10:46. > :10:49.happy. Let's look at what it is. 6.96 to go into the lead. That's
:10:50. > :10:54.superb. Great jump from Spanovic. So, Klishina has seen her lead over
:10:55. > :11:07.taken. What can she do to respond? Tall ranging athlete. It's another
:11:08. > :11:14.big jump for Klishina. It's going to challenge. Maybe just shy of
:11:15. > :11:22.Spanovic. The two Americans opened up, 6.75 metres for Brittney Reese.
:11:23. > :11:26.Lawrence Seagrave, we saw, her coach. A little think and left on
:11:27. > :11:30.that particular job. But carries a lot of speed into the board. That's
:11:31. > :11:35.the critical thing. This is a speed event. You've got to generate speed
:11:36. > :11:39.and be able to take that speed out into the sand pit. Lorraine Ugen on
:11:40. > :11:46.two fouls, remember. As is an's best. Klishina still in second
:11:47. > :11:51.place. One question is dull being asked on social media is what will
:11:52. > :11:57.be played -- one question I'm still being played if an athlete ana, not
:11:58. > :12:02.affiliated to a country, wins a gold medal. It's not your favourite song,
:12:03. > :12:06.it is the IAAF official anthem that they have. I don't know what that
:12:07. > :12:10.sounds like, Denise, do you? I haven't heard it. We haven't heard
:12:11. > :12:15.it! I've heard the Diamond League song! We might hear it, you never
:12:16. > :12:19.know, we'll see how Klishina gets on in that long jump competition.
:12:20. > :12:23.There's still a way to go yet. Christian Taylor is still with us
:12:24. > :12:27.after that medal winning performance last night. We were thrilled to see
:12:28. > :12:31.you out there, getting your gold medal and reducing the goods, as you
:12:32. > :12:34.have done so many times before in World Championships -- producing the
:12:35. > :12:38.goods. To back up those performances, here you are, getting
:12:39. > :12:43.your gold medal a bit earlier this evening. You always appreciated by a
:12:44. > :12:47.British crowd? Yes, I feel like an onion or Brit. I spent my time in
:12:48. > :12:50.Loughborough, that was a very special time for me -- I felt like
:12:51. > :12:55.an honourable it. It was a challenge because I was far away from home. My
:12:56. > :12:58.little comfort area. But the Challengers, I rose to the occasion.
:12:59. > :13:02.We haven't just that you next a Michael Jonzon for no reasonable. We
:13:03. > :13:06.have read that you are thinking about the 400m with a pretty decent
:13:07. > :13:11.time. Potentially getting into the relay squad to start off with, or is
:13:12. > :13:14.this an individual aspiration? Michael is there, tapping on... A
:13:15. > :13:21.little bit of both. I is bowed to wade early on this morning. I always
:13:22. > :13:24.believe I can get a little something, maybe you can pass
:13:25. > :13:30.something odd to me? It's just a dream of mine. I've watched him
:13:31. > :13:38.since I came into the sport -- maybe you can pass something onto me.
:13:39. > :13:44.Yeah, it's a lot of respect, you know. You pave the way, and I'm
:13:45. > :13:48.grateful to that. Right now I Matt Forde five seconds, I've got dreams
:13:49. > :13:55.of getting into the second Regent -- I am at 45 seconds. Next year, for
:13:56. > :13:58.the US, Europe World Championships, -- no World Championships. Do you
:13:59. > :14:03.think you can move over in that year? Absolutely, I want to continue
:14:04. > :14:06.having fun, that is what helps of longevity. I have the opportunity to
:14:07. > :14:11.go to the world relays in the Bahamas. That was an incredible
:14:12. > :14:18.event. I really loved that, for the relay. But next year, why not, you
:14:19. > :14:22.know? Will we see a triple dump next year -- a triple jump next year. We
:14:23. > :14:33.have obligations. I still love jumping. But to give my mind little
:14:34. > :14:38.break. To get into that... Yeah, it's challenging and it puts me in a
:14:39. > :14:42.different mindset. If you want a real challenge, come to the
:14:43. > :14:50.decathlon! We are fighting over you now likes Mac I'm scared of heights,
:14:51. > :14:54.no pole it's the second week of the semifinals of the women's 800m.
:14:55. > :15:00.Great Britain is Lynsey Sharp is in Semenya is in this. As you expect
:15:01. > :15:03.when you get to this stage of the competition, of course you're going
:15:04. > :15:08.to find that they are loaded with talent, Andrew Cotter.
:15:09. > :15:11.COMMENTATOR: Yes, and a fume or talents, Caster Semenya outside
:15:12. > :15:18.Lynsey Sharp, who looked comfortable -- passed that Semenya.
:15:19. > :15:26.Only two will go through automatically. A very, very strong
:15:27. > :15:34.semifinal. Selena but shall won in Belgrade in March. She took the
:15:35. > :15:43.European 1500 metres title last summer in Amsterdam. And then on the
:15:44. > :15:48.inside in laying two, the Lithuanian athlete, -- in laying two. I'm
:15:49. > :15:51.likely to threaten here. The real pressure to Lynsey Sharp comes from
:15:52. > :15:54.Semenya. Charlene Lipsey, we didn't get a chance to see the second
:15:55. > :16:01.behind her training partner Angie Wilson, the US Championships. --
:16:02. > :16:04.Ajee Wilson. Won the Diamond League meetings here in London. Look out
:16:05. > :16:10.for the Ugandan athlete in lane eight. And ter Stegen of the
:16:11. > :16:13.Netherlands goes in laying nine. Lynsey Sharp will have or are the
:16:14. > :16:20.crowd behind her, but Caster Semenya, who ronde 1500. Semenya
:16:21. > :16:25.straining to get to the line but took the bronze ahead of Laura Muir.
:16:26. > :16:26.Lynsey Sharp ghost of a front door Caster Semenya. Lindsay stopped
:16:27. > :16:41.setting the pace. Charlene Lipsey may take the lead.
:16:42. > :16:46.She may follow the lead of her training partner, as she did in the
:16:47. > :16:54.first semifinal. Cichocka sitting at the back. She
:16:55. > :16:59.leaves it late and she is maybe a better 800-metre runner than she is
:17:00. > :17:14.1500. They went through the bell in
:17:15. > :17:18.57.80.2. Lipsey leading them out. Verstegen
:17:19. > :17:21.working hard. She might have a block to the athletes behind her at the
:17:22. > :17:25.moment. She's a block to Lynsey Sharp at the moment. And Lynsey
:17:26. > :17:29.Sharp trying to hold her off around that bend. She was not able to do
:17:30. > :17:34.it. Verstegen has slotted back. Lynsey
:17:35. > :17:42.Sharp is blocked by Caster Semenya. She needs to react if she can and
:17:43. > :17:46.get in front of Caster Semenya. Semenya, comfortable. Lipsey has
:17:47. > :17:50.done all the dragging. Sharp now chasing her done. It is Semenya and
:17:51. > :17:54.Lipsey and Lynsey Sharp. This is where Sharp really starts to dig in
:17:55. > :17:58.and Sharp around just to the shoulder of Lipsey. The American
:17:59. > :18:02.responds. So too Cichocka, coming through.
:18:03. > :18:09.Lipsey in second. Cichocka coming through the inside. Sharp run out of
:18:10. > :18:15.it. Semenya - the winner, 1. 1.58.90. Again, it will be very,
:18:16. > :18:21.very tight. Lynsey Sharp ran out of the automatic places. Again with
:18:22. > :18:25.that quick first semifinal, the quickest losers coming into this
:18:26. > :18:30.one. Semenya, again it looks so easy for her. But behind her what a race
:18:31. > :18:33.was developing. A big race developing. We will look back at
:18:34. > :18:37.that. I am watching the times come up on the screen. At the moment, at
:18:38. > :18:42.the moment though there are two more races to come, Charlene Lipsey and
:18:43. > :18:50.Lynsey Sharp are in fastest loser qualifying position.
:18:51. > :18:54.Just such a shame that Lynsey Sharp stumbled and lost some more ground.
:18:55. > :19:00.She did the right thing. She could see that Charlene Lipsey was
:19:01. > :19:03.starting to... The biggest changer was from Angelika Cichocka, sitting
:19:04. > :19:07.right back at this point. She left her charge very, very late. She
:19:08. > :19:10.waited. She waited. She saw the gap on the inside and went for that.
:19:11. > :19:21.Lynsey Sharp at this stage fighting as hard as she can, trying to reel
:19:22. > :19:26.in. The last ten metres or so she catches Cichocka on the inside. She
:19:27. > :19:30.tries to find more. I don't know whether she catches the elbow of
:19:31. > :19:34.Lipsey a little bit, but she stumbles, she loses her balance and
:19:35. > :19:39.that lost her a couple of more 100ths across the line. Semenya
:19:40. > :19:47.again - look how comfortable she is. Everyone behind her straining and
:19:48. > :19:51.Lipsey out easy there. And Sharp, great finish from Cichocka. You see
:19:52. > :19:56.it so often as athletes drift out with fatigue and that jostle into
:19:57. > :20:02.the back and Lipsey, but at the moment Lipsey and Sharp are the two
:20:03. > :20:06.fastest losers, with one more semifinal to go.
:20:07. > :20:13.Third round of the long jump. Lorraine Ugen, two fouls. She'll
:20:14. > :20:17.need a jump somewhere beyond possibly a six metres and 60
:20:18. > :20:26.centimetres. Difficult to tell. Top eight to make the last three jumps.
:20:27. > :20:35.Ugen... That's better! Lorraine Ugen has produced a good jump.
:20:36. > :20:42.Under some pressure. The white flag, in this third-round jump.
:20:43. > :20:47.It is a beautiful jump, under the circumstances. Sean Jackson, coach,
:20:48. > :20:52.giving nothing away. Let's look at this. She stands up on the
:20:53. > :20:55.penultimate step. That gives the lift and speed. Before she's put the
:20:56. > :21:03.foot out. Much more active underneath. That gives the lifting
:21:04. > :21:10.height. 6. 72. Up into fourth place. U so she's close to that medal
:21:11. > :21:16.place. Moves into fourth at the halfway stage. So then, good news
:21:17. > :21:21.for Lorraine Ugen. Spanovic, the Serbian in the lead, with 6. 96, can
:21:22. > :21:24.extend it here. Maybe didn't quite get the height
:21:25. > :21:29.there. It is another long effort, though.
:21:30. > :21:34.Good on the board again. She's so consistent.
:21:35. > :21:40.Week in, week out. On the Diamond League.
:21:41. > :21:48.The Serbian in front of the Americans, as is Lorraine Ugen.
:21:49. > :21:54.Space to spare for Spanovic. Another 6.90 jump. What Spanovic is so good
:21:55. > :22:03.at is the way she accelerates, shortens her stride. 6. 77 there.
:22:04. > :22:07.So Lorraine Ugen finally up and running that third jump and putting
:22:08. > :22:12.herself into touching distance of those medals. Christine Taylor is
:22:13. > :22:14.with us. You breathes a sigh of relief. You know what it is like
:22:15. > :22:19.when things are not clicking sometimes. You have not done it on
:22:20. > :22:25.the bigger stage. There are times when it takes you time to get going.
:22:26. > :22:31.In London 2012 - it is not the way you want to go into a final, but I
:22:32. > :22:37.had a sigh of relief for her. She's a competitor. I think she's almost a
:22:38. > :22:42.silent assassin. She's got the size, the speed. It takes one jump. That
:22:43. > :22:46.is it. Tell me about the American gold rush going on at the moment -
:22:47. > :22:50.leading at the top of the medal table by almost three times as many
:22:51. > :22:56.as the rest - it has been pretty impressive so far. You have even
:22:57. > :22:59.surprised Michael Johnson. We have our team meeting and Michelle and
:23:00. > :23:03.Trey say we are the number one nation in the world, we are the
:23:04. > :23:07.number one team, go out and represent. Don't change anything
:23:08. > :23:11.that got you here. Go out there, have fun, represent in the best
:23:12. > :23:16.light, and that's what we're doing. I'm so glad I can contribute to that
:23:17. > :23:21.medal count. We are so glad you came up to see us today. If you want to
:23:22. > :23:25.pop over at the weekend, you want to bring more gifts, feel free. Denise
:23:26. > :23:29.is keeping hold at the moment. If you were not here earlier that will
:23:30. > :23:33.confuse you! Let's get back outside because it is the final of those
:23:34. > :23:37.semi-finals and Shelayna Oskan-Clarke, who has got herself
:23:38. > :23:39.into world finals before is out there. Steve Cram has this one for
:23:40. > :23:50.you. We have some news from the previous
:23:51. > :23:55.semifinal. Tough semi-finals and, Andrew, Lynsey Sharp... Yes, Lynsey
:23:56. > :23:59.Sharp has been disqualified and comes into the back of Charlene
:24:00. > :24:02.Lipsey, there is a little grab on the arm. I think it is for this,
:24:03. > :24:08.just as she's coming up to Lipsey. You are watching. It is the hook of
:24:09. > :24:16.the arm on Lipsey's arm, that will be the reason for it. It is
:24:17. > :24:21.unintentional. As her arm has come through, it has hooked itself
:24:22. > :24:27.through the arm of Lipsey and that has been deemed as impeding her.
:24:28. > :24:34.Christian Hering is on the outside of Shelayna Oskan-Clarke. Lynsey
:24:35. > :24:48.Sharp was one of the fastest losers, that is now going to go to Yarigo.
:24:49. > :24:52.If Shelayna Oskan-Clarke does not finish in the top two here - these
:24:53. > :24:57.semi-finals are brutal here, because all of the top women in the world
:24:58. > :25:00.from this year are here, including the three Olympic medallists. One of
:25:01. > :25:06.them was Margaret Nyairera Wambui, of course, from Rio. Wambui, the
:25:07. > :25:10.most recent race in Monaco completely threw the towel in, to be
:25:11. > :25:19.honest. Joanna Jozwik, she was fifth. We had the top six from the
:25:20. > :25:25.Olympics competing here. Niyonsaba is running better than last year.
:25:26. > :25:30.Coached by Mark Roland. And Brenda Mratinez might have had a choice of
:25:31. > :25:36.race, strong in 1500 metres. She choose the 800. She's definitely
:25:37. > :25:40.their third best. But Lipsey is standing in the fastest loser spot
:25:41. > :25:53.at the moment with her training partner.
:25:54. > :25:57.Lofstrand, of South African. 21. Nakaayi, a Commonwealth youth
:25:58. > :26:11.champion a good few years ago now. Shelayna Oskan-Clarke ... Top three
:26:12. > :26:15.in 1. 59.5, and Shelayna Oskan-Clarke is definitely capable
:26:16. > :26:20.of that. She will not think of anything other than the top two.
:26:21. > :26:24.Just make sure the worst, your top three, maybe top four, at a stretch
:26:25. > :26:34.- it will be interesting here. The question is, who will take it out in
:26:35. > :26:37.this heat? Maybe Christian Hering, of Germany, on the outside. She
:26:38. > :26:41.looks a little bit reluctant. They are queueing up here. The next one I
:26:42. > :26:52.would have said would have been Brenda Mratinez - a 1500 metre
:26:53. > :26:55.runner. Maybe she would take it out: Niyonsaba is at the front. She looks
:26:56. > :26:59.much, much better than last year. She has all season. But she's looked
:27:00. > :27:03.stronger and stronger with each race. Brenda Mratinez didn't look
:27:04. > :27:05.good in the heats. Maybe that is why she's not gone to the front and try
:27:06. > :27:16.and take it on. The slowest women on the field comes
:27:17. > :27:21.around the outside because it is so slow. This is dangerous for Shelayna
:27:22. > :27:26.Oskan-Clarke. Her tactics, always important, but wen you are in the
:27:27. > :27:36.third semifinal, give yourself a chance.
:27:37. > :27:44.Wambui is squeezing out Oskan-Clarke. And Martinez trying to
:27:45. > :27:50.squeeze through on the the outside. Jozwik is on the outside. She's
:27:51. > :27:54.timing it to prefer techtion. -- perfection.
:27:55. > :27:59.Oskan-Clarke has got some work to do now. She's got to get past one of
:28:00. > :28:02.the Olympic medallists, at the very least.
:28:03. > :28:08.Jozwik is on the outside. Martinez is trying to strike on the
:28:09. > :28:13.inside. Could we be in for a shock here? It will be very tight on the
:28:14. > :28:21.line. Oskan-Clarke has gone. Niyonsaba, Wambui... Martinez will
:28:22. > :28:29.not be quick enough. No surprises. I get frustrated a little bit, I
:28:30. > :28:35.mean Shelayna has a good racing brain. I am not sure any others
:28:36. > :28:39.apart from Wambui used their to any content, including Martinez, who is
:28:40. > :28:43.a good 1500-metre runner. Give yourself a chance. Top four, you
:28:44. > :28:50.could have got through, but not with... Paula, 60.8 first lap. Look
:28:51. > :28:56.at that look from Shelayna Oskan-Clarke. She knows. She doesn't
:28:57. > :29:01.need you or I to tell her what happened there. It is a shame. She
:29:02. > :29:05.normally gets it right. When you are going in the final, semifinal, you
:29:06. > :29:09.have to advantage. You know what those times. Somebody should have
:29:10. > :29:14.told here coming into this what she needed to do to get the fastest
:29:15. > :29:17.loser spot. They knew the script was written. It has happened race after
:29:18. > :29:21.race. Controlled from the front and then
:29:22. > :29:26.Wambui will make her charge late. And that is what happened. Martinez
:29:27. > :29:30.was, she found space, gave it a good go. She was not able to get back on
:29:31. > :29:35.to turns. She nearly got there but couldn't get there and then the pace
:29:36. > :29:38.was too slow for any others behind to have a chance to take one of
:29:39. > :29:42.those fastest loser spots. You have to look at the previous semifinal
:29:43. > :29:46.now and feel for Lynsey Sharp. I don't think it was intentional. She
:29:47. > :29:51.would have progressed as the fastest loser.
:29:52. > :29:54.Wambui looks vulnerable again. Niyonsaba, for me, did control that
:29:55. > :29:58.much better. It is not the sort of race that Wambui seems to enjoy,
:29:59. > :30:05.anyway. Martinez almost strong enough to get her there.
:30:06. > :30:10.Well, the news still, in case you missed it, Lynsey Sharp disqualified
:30:11. > :30:14.and Tracey and Oskan-Clarke not quick enough to go through. No
:30:15. > :30:25.British women in the final as it stands.
:30:26. > :30:34.The slowest of the three, Wambui, that means that those were third,
:30:35. > :30:44.fourth etc have no chance of going through. This is Brittney Reese, who
:30:45. > :30:54.has had an uncharacteristically untidy start to this long jump
:30:55. > :31:04.final. The lead still Spanovic. 6.96. Round three. Oh, look at this.
:31:05. > :31:12.Rees has produced a beautiful job. She has tidied things up. And that's
:31:13. > :31:16.much better. -- Brittney Reese. But North American way of jumping
:31:17. > :31:20.sinking and lifting. They carry a lot of speed in those positions. You
:31:21. > :31:24.got to be incredibly strong to do that. Up she goes, she stretches up.
:31:25. > :31:32.I love the way she looks to the left, looking we -- the way she
:31:33. > :31:38.wants to land. It is 7.2 four Brittney Reese. A novel of the head.
:31:39. > :31:46.She goes out in front. -- a nod of the head. So, what does the reigning
:31:47. > :31:51.world champion do to respond? That big effort from her team-mate. Oh,
:31:52. > :31:59.look at that! Another jump on seven metres, but a foul. And the
:32:00. > :32:06.Americans just feeling their way into this competition. A nod of his
:32:07. > :32:12.head, he liked it. Three jumps remaining. In marginal foul from
:32:13. > :32:20.Bartoletta. And she's in sixth place. Some adjustments to be made.
:32:21. > :32:25.I think the coach knows it's a good job. He knows she's starting to get
:32:26. > :32:30.into a groove. Great speed. Foul on this occasion. She's still in fifth.
:32:31. > :32:33.That may prove critical, because Brittney Reese will have the last
:32:34. > :32:40.jump when Bartoletta response on that round. -- when she responds.
:32:41. > :32:47.Well, it was a dramatic race last night. Wayde van Niekerk. I actually
:32:48. > :32:54.saw him on the way in today, he said he'd been shopping. He didn't have a
:32:55. > :33:03.whole new outfit, but he certainly had a few bags, he had obviously
:33:04. > :33:05.been enjoying his afternoon off. The gold-medallist, Turkey's first
:33:06. > :33:11.gold-medal in the World Championships. Former Azerbaijan
:33:12. > :33:16.man, who has switched to Turkey, much the consternation of his
:33:17. > :33:20.homeland. He couldn't run in the Olympic Games, he has been training
:33:21. > :33:31.in Russia recently. He does get around a little bit. 2009. -- 20
:33:32. > :34:49.20.0 nine. Well, is full of smiles, and so he
:34:50. > :34:56.should be. It was a phenomenal performance in the sense that is
:34:57. > :34:58.where elsewhere. This young man of Trinidad and they are, very
:34:59. > :35:03.impressed with him. Van Niekerk maybe just a little tight in the
:35:04. > :35:09.semis, give him a back lane in that 200m final, right on the inside.
:35:10. > :35:14.Fourth, a great run from him. Very, very close in the end. But the gold
:35:15. > :35:24.medal went to Turkey. One of the shocks of the Championship.
:35:25. > :35:30.Now, something to clean up from the semifinals of the women's 800m. This
:35:31. > :35:37.was the result from the second semifinal. Lynsey Sharp finished
:35:38. > :35:42.fourth in real time, but then was disqualified under IAAF rule 163.2,
:35:43. > :35:47.which is about pushing, obstructing or jostling to impede somebody's
:35:48. > :35:53.progress. Charlene Lipsey in front of her, the American. There was an
:35:54. > :36:00.interlocking of arms, there we go. Lynsey Sharp, just the slightest
:36:01. > :36:04.blocking of arms. That has been ruled to be impeding Charlene that
:36:05. > :36:10.the's progress. The question is, I'm sure there will be an appeal. But
:36:11. > :36:13.since Lipsey goes through ultimately anyway, has she impeded her
:36:14. > :36:17.progress? Lynsey Sharp would have gone through with that time is one
:36:18. > :36:23.of the fastest losers. Afterwards, Lynsey Sharp gave us her thoughts.
:36:24. > :36:29.Lindsay, I can see you are emotional about the disqualification but are
:36:30. > :36:32.puzzled by it also because you don't know what you've done wrong? Yes, as
:36:33. > :36:36.far as I'm concerned I can't of anything that was any different to
:36:37. > :36:39.any other race I've been in recently. I can't remember doing
:36:40. > :36:44.anything. There's definitely races throughout the season where I've
:36:45. > :36:50.been affected worse than I've affected anyone in that race. You
:36:51. > :36:53.would have made it as one of the two fastest losers. Can you go and
:36:54. > :36:57.counterprotest? Yes, I'll definitely have to go back and look at it with
:36:58. > :37:00.British athletics. I can't remember anything. I've been in a lot of
:37:01. > :37:04.scrappy races this year and I would put my hands up and say that I did
:37:05. > :37:07.something, but I can't even remember where it would have been, I don't
:37:08. > :37:10.remember anything. You had a word with Charlene at sea. We think it
:37:11. > :37:16.was as you were coming towards the finish, you aren't interlocked with
:37:17. > :37:20.hers. -- your arm. Paula Radcliffe just said, it wasn't intentional on
:37:21. > :37:25.your part. She said she remembers getting hit a couple of times. But
:37:26. > :37:30.so do I. I got kicked in the heats. It's just part of distance running.
:37:31. > :37:33.Coming to the finish line, I was definitely reaching for the mind. I
:37:34. > :37:37.was so desperate to get there that I would have dived across the line. I
:37:38. > :37:43.was ready to hit the floor. I didn't intentionally run into her or her
:37:44. > :37:46.arm or anything, so I don't know. We appreciate you talking to us.
:37:47. > :37:50.Obviously you can go back and talk to the team, it's still something
:37:51. > :37:57.you can resolve, I hope so. Thank you. Lynsey is obviously upset. This
:37:58. > :38:04.is where it happened. Charlene Lipsey had moved out a little early
:38:05. > :38:06.in the home straight. She suddenly realises that the athlete on the
:38:07. > :38:10.inside is going to take away her position. There is a blocking of
:38:11. > :38:15.arms. The crucial thing is here, Charlene Lipsey and Lynsey Sharp
:38:16. > :38:20.would have qualified as the fastest losers. Charlene Lipsey has gone
:38:21. > :38:26.through as a fastest loser. Lynsey Sharp would have done. That is
:38:27. > :38:29.unintentional. Lynsey does push off as she is does to lose her balance.
:38:30. > :38:33.But Charlene Lipsey hasn't been impeded in the sense that she
:38:34. > :38:39.finished third and has gone through anyway. So she doesn't need to be
:38:40. > :38:44.advanced. I think it would have gone past her anyway for that second
:38:45. > :38:51.what. We have to see if the British team appeal that disqualification.
:38:52. > :38:56.Back to this long jump. Tianna Bartoletta, the defending world
:38:57. > :39:02.champion, looking a little bit out of sorts in the first three jumps at
:39:03. > :39:10.least. Her team-mate, Brittney Reese, is in the lead. 7.0 two.
:39:11. > :39:19.Bartoletta way shy of seven metres. That they jump she's capable of. She
:39:20. > :39:25.jumped 7.01 this year. 7.17 was her lifetime best, from last year. A
:39:26. > :39:31.thrilling end to the Rio Olympics. And Bartoletta, I don't know what to
:39:32. > :39:36.make of that, really. Took the title is a young 19-year-old. Defended it,
:39:37. > :39:44.or we gained it, I should say, ten years later. -- regained it. In
:39:45. > :39:52.2015. She is in sixth place here. 6.64 is her best so far. So,
:39:53. > :39:56.Lorraine Ugen. 6.72 to stay involved in that third round. We are in the
:39:57. > :40:03.fourth round now. A good height again. But another red flag. She's
:40:04. > :40:07.really peppered that plasticine by just a few centimetres. It won't be
:40:08. > :40:11.measured. Jake White men just in time to get his introduction to the
:40:12. > :40:17.crowd. Having an outstanding season, ready to go in the first semifinal
:40:18. > :40:23.of the men's 1500 metres. The medallist for Morocco, in detail, at
:40:24. > :40:29.the London Olympics. And the fastest man this year over this distance. A
:40:30. > :40:37.silver-medallist at the last World Championships. A hamstring injury
:40:38. > :40:39.ruined his efforts in Rio. He was impressive in the heats. He is very
:40:40. > :40:50.strong. Kiprop, you can see on the outside,
:40:51. > :40:58.the offending champion, he has won the last three world titles. Lining
:40:59. > :41:03.up alongside the Norwegian athlete. Five to go through automatically to
:41:04. > :41:07.Sunday's final. The two fastest losers. He will tuck himself into
:41:08. > :41:11.the back as he always does, and make his move. We won sure about Kiprop
:41:12. > :41:15.this year. He didn't have to work too hard to qualify because he
:41:16. > :41:19.qualified automatically as a wild card entry. What a great family of
:41:20. > :41:25.runners that is. A little is the ball from Durango in early on. Jake
:41:26. > :41:30.Whiteman tucks in behind the Kenyan. His father announced in the stadium
:41:31. > :41:36.as well. His father and coach, Jeff Wightman, a very good runner
:41:37. > :41:39.himself. His mother was a good international marathon runner. So
:41:40. > :41:42.he's got the pedigree. He is also improved so much this season. I've
:41:43. > :41:49.been so impressed with him at shorter distances. It means he is a
:41:50. > :41:55.class athlete. In the 1500 metres, well, at Oslo run was really
:41:56. > :41:59.impressive. But this race is very slow. They set off with intent. The
:42:00. > :42:10.first lap is going to be really slow. 62 seconds. Wightman on the
:42:11. > :42:16.outside in a good place. Indeed is going to be a danger.
:42:17. > :42:23.Right at the back is the champion, just cruising, staying out of
:42:24. > :42:28.trouble. I'm a bit concerned these days because I think the athletes,
:42:29. > :42:31.you know, they bump each other, they're running into each other,
:42:32. > :42:36.running into spaces that don't exist. That's why we are getting
:42:37. > :42:39.more of the bumping. But he is in the right place, Kiprop. Look at
:42:40. > :42:43.Kiprop, a tall, elegant running machine. He will wait and sit at the
:42:44. > :42:49.back behind the American champion. He will have that change of pace,
:42:50. > :42:54.which she makes it look so easy. Man and boy, the other Kenyan in this
:42:55. > :42:58.field. It is slow. -- mentor Lehmann Anglo.
:42:59. > :43:05.Kiprop just waiting. Wightman sitting on the outside, now he
:43:06. > :43:10.begins to make his move. Two or three for 800m. It will be a mighty
:43:11. > :43:16.burn up. They are queueing up, moving for their positions. Getting
:43:17. > :43:19.ready to watch Kiprop. Is he going to make a move? There is the bumping
:43:20. > :43:25.that I talked about. It's getting worse. It's getting more common.
:43:26. > :43:28.Kiprop is in the right place and Wightman is in the right place, on
:43:29. > :43:32.the outside. As long as he stays there and doesn't worry about it too
:43:33. > :43:36.much. Now he's going to move quickly into a position. And he's going to
:43:37. > :43:40.try and stay there. And he's safer on the outside as they come into the
:43:41. > :43:45.bend. And that has gone committee has pulled up and he has gone. --
:43:46. > :43:49.Robbie Andrews. Kiprop frees himself from all of the trouble and goes in
:43:50. > :43:56.search. The eyes of the crowd behind. Wightman is in a good
:43:57. > :44:03.position at the moment. Blocked on the inside. The jostling starts. The
:44:04. > :44:07.elbow is. Flies. -- the elbows start to fly. Kiprop has given them a
:44:08. > :44:11.start and now he is moving like is printed on the back straight. Just a
:44:12. > :44:19.few strides took him to fourth place. -- like a sprinter. Suddenly
:44:20. > :44:23.in a better place, a little bit more freedom. And beside him you get it
:44:24. > :44:27.either and Wightman is in sixth place at the moment. Wightman
:44:28. > :44:31.looking to finish strongly. Kiprop stretches those long legs. Wightman
:44:32. > :44:36.is struggling now. The grip leaves him. Wightman is not going to make
:44:37. > :44:43.it. That might and Kiprop coming through. Celebrations. -- Motonei
:44:44. > :44:46.Manangoi and Kiprop. Just when you thought that Jake Whiteman was going
:44:47. > :44:49.to turn it on the home straight, because he looked strong and he was
:44:50. > :44:53.not in a bad position, he faded and didn't have the pace to match the
:44:54. > :44:56.rest and he will not go through. Kiprop did what he always does and
:44:57. > :45:00.waited at the back, time did well, they'd out of all of the trouble. He
:45:01. > :45:06.goes through. Motonei Manangoi goes through. They look good. But Jake
:45:07. > :45:10.Whiteman will go no further. He ran well. That was a tough race for him.
:45:11. > :45:14.He put himself in the position. But they were travelling, they were
:45:15. > :45:17.really travelling. When he gave them that start, he really can do
:45:18. > :45:21.anything about it. He's disappointed, his disappointed
:45:22. > :45:24.father in the stadium commentary box. But I think you'll be
:45:25. > :45:28.disappointed young man. I thought he had all the ingredients to make the
:45:29. > :45:33.final. -- I think you will be a disappointed young man. Dust
:45:34. > :45:41.interesting, given the last lap. -- just interesting. Well, he has still
:45:42. > :45:55.just qualified here now. He had to accelerate. That on the inside. And
:45:56. > :45:59.then the champion. It's not a fast one. The others are going to run
:46:00. > :46:03.faster. Disappointment for Jake Whiteman. You see the difference
:46:04. > :46:07.between raw speed and the speed that Jake was trying to gather but he
:46:08. > :46:11.can't compete with these guys. They really a power part when it comes to
:46:12. > :46:15.a fast finish. If it had been a longer run I think you might have
:46:16. > :46:19.been a bit close. However, a last lap burn up. 52 seconds for Kiprop.
:46:20. > :46:24.Motonei Manangoi quick on the inside too. Matthews is out of it. Iguider
:46:25. > :46:31.is out of it. The result we will see in a few moments.
:46:32. > :46:43.Not to be for Jake Wightman. Well, we are into the third round,
:46:44. > :46:49.fourth round, I should say of the long jump. Darya Klishina eyeing up
:46:50. > :47:10.the lead of Brittney Reese, 7. 7.02.
:47:11. > :47:18.6.88 is her season's best. She only brought 6. 75 in as a season's best.
:47:19. > :47:25.Really bringing her best to these World Championships. The
:47:26. > :47:27.26-year-old, competing as an authorised neutral athlete, as we
:47:28. > :47:37.said earlier. This looks like an improvement. It is. 6. 91. Up into
:47:38. > :47:43.third place. So then, we are into round five of
:47:44. > :47:54.this long jump. Bartoletta - been out of shorts so far. But that's
:47:55. > :48:00.better, is it? Well, she looked optimistic. The leg shoot, maybe not
:48:01. > :48:04.as clean as we have seen her in the past. It is better. The round
:48:05. > :48:09.before, she drove her legs out and got into a good leg shoot, but
:48:10. > :48:14.pulled her feet back underneath her. She's worked hard to get her feet
:48:15. > :48:19.out and leave them out ahead. Seemed to lands like a gymnast as she
:48:20. > :48:25.landed in that stood up position. That's better. 6. Ds 88, Bartoletta,
:48:26. > :48:31.finding some form with the final stages. Goes up into fourth place.
:48:32. > :48:36.Fifth round for Lorraine Ugen. Only one valid jump throughout
:48:37. > :48:41.competition so far. That's surely another foul. Is it? It is. Didn't
:48:42. > :48:45.make the adjustments necessary. Just about five strides, five or six
:48:46. > :48:48.strides out from the board. She starts to lengthen her running, in
:48:49. > :48:54.order to get faster she's lengthening. You have to control the
:48:55. > :49:01.shin angle, keep your knee, foot in a line. Don't overreach. That is
:49:02. > :49:07.what's putting her, I think, into the plasticine. She'll still in with
:49:08. > :49:12.a chance for a medal. She'll need a lifetime best or there close to it.
:49:13. > :49:19.7. 02 is in the lead but Lorraine Ugen is very capable.
:49:20. > :49:27.One jump remaining. And Lorraine Ugen, the girl from
:49:28. > :49:31.Bexley heath jumping well and can improve on that fifth place that
:49:32. > :49:41.she's in as we go into the last round.
:49:42. > :50:00.Darya Klishina, 6. 91 her best in tra previous round as improved every
:50:01. > :50:03.jump. Penultimate jump for Klishina. Improvement in that previous jump
:50:04. > :50:14.and she's done it again. This might challenge for the lead. So, the lead
:50:15. > :50:18.of Brittney Reese, 7.02, under threat.
:50:19. > :50:25.Running much quicker on the runway. Drives the knee. Really reaches.
:50:26. > :50:29.Nearly a double kick. Oh, my word! They don't come much tighter than
:50:30. > :50:35.that, I don't think. A margin of error. Good height. Beautiful jump
:50:36. > :50:39.for Darya Klishina. It is seven metres exactly. Just two senty
:50:40. > :50:44.metres behind the lead of Reese. This is going to be some finish,
:50:45. > :50:49.isn't it, this last round? I look forward to seeing how it unfolds.
:50:50. > :50:53.Well, wonderful long jump final over on the back straight. That is where
:50:54. > :50:59.the start of the second semi-finalist. Chris O'Hare, hoping
:51:00. > :51:05.to make it through. The Edinburgh athletics club man. There was
:51:06. > :51:07.Nicholas Willis, Olympic medallist, on two occasions, from New Zealand.
:51:08. > :51:11.Chris knows this is a big opportunity for him. I have been
:51:12. > :51:15.really impressed with his season so far and his preparation for these
:51:16. > :51:19.championships. Kwemoi, one of the preevent
:51:20. > :51:29.favourites, who was lucky to come through as a fastest loser. A very
:51:30. > :51:32.slow first race and then this man Douma was advanced after being
:51:33. > :51:39.clipped in the home straight. I don't think it really affected him
:51:40. > :51:46.too much. We have seen the very good Timothy Cheruiyot as well. And well,
:51:47. > :51:49.everywhere you look here, this is the semifinal, Marcin Lewandowski
:51:50. > :51:56.can be dangerous in races. There is Douma. As I said, he fell, it was
:51:57. > :52:04.fairly fortunate, it was his fault, to and nobody was disqualified.
:52:05. > :52:07.It was Musagala, who we saw in the first semifinal, who he had the
:52:08. > :52:21.slight altercation with. They know that the time is around
:52:22. > :52:25.about 3. 38, 39, the winning time. Seventh place was 3. 40. So, they
:52:26. > :52:30.are all capable of running much quicker than that. Let's see if we
:52:31. > :52:34.get honest pace in this race. Cheruiyot, from Kenya. He's got this
:52:35. > :52:39.hunched style, leaning over style, which sometimes looks as if he stood
:52:40. > :52:44.up a little bit he would run faster. Don't tell mim that, because he's
:52:45. > :52:50.very, very good. He's taking them through a tad quicker. Chris is in a
:52:51. > :52:54.good spot. He's got a great racing brain. He's had a very good season
:52:55. > :53:00.and he is our last man standing for the final of the men's 1500 metres
:53:01. > :53:06.on Sunday. Let's hope he can do a little bit better than his two
:53:07. > :53:11.team-mates, his two Edinburgh athletic club team-mates. Poised,
:53:12. > :53:16.not very quick. You don't have to run very quick to run the kind of
:53:17. > :53:22.times that Steve was saying to qualify. I wouldn't want to tell him
:53:23. > :53:27.like you said to stand up straight, Steve. He's a massive talent is
:53:28. > :53:38.Timothy Cheruiyot. I think it is the strongest quartet
:53:39. > :53:43.from Kenya I have seen for a long time.
:53:44. > :53:48.Decent pace here. Chris O'Hare following Nicholas
:53:49. > :53:52.Willis - that is never a bad plan. Chris, within striking distance.
:53:53. > :53:56.Don't forget, top five, top seven if they are inside 3. 40. At the minute
:53:57. > :54:01.the pace is taking them in that direction. Cheruiyot doing them a
:54:02. > :54:06.favour. Cheruiyot is moving them along now. The pace is gathering.
:54:07. > :54:09.They are strung out now. There'll be less potential for falling over as
:54:10. > :54:13.they keep going. Nicholas Willis is cruising in the
:54:14. > :54:17.back straight. He's at the perfect place Chris O'Hare. He's running
:54:18. > :54:20.solidly, strongly. He's got a good guide in Nicholas Willis and the two
:54:21. > :54:27.of them are moving close to the leading group. First five, this race
:54:28. > :54:30.looks to be quicker, so it could be a space for the quickest losers.
:54:31. > :54:35.They will accelerate on the last gap.
:54:36. > :54:38.Kwemoi is setting up the pace as well.
:54:39. > :54:41.Chris O'Hare is in a perfect place. Nicholas Willis wearing the all
:54:42. > :54:48.black of New Zealand. Chris O'Hare, who is his shadow at
:54:49. > :54:54.the moment. The top seven at this pace will go
:54:55. > :54:57.through. Kwemoi still off the pace. Let's hope working in the back
:54:58. > :55:02.straight to give himself a good run at the finish. Coming at it from
:55:03. > :55:07.both sides. Now he has to hold on to that position. Lewandowski working
:55:08. > :55:11.hard to be able to strike. His 800-metre pace will tell. Chris is
:55:12. > :55:15.in a good spot. He's not panicking. He's very smart about knowing where
:55:16. > :55:23.he needs to be. Top seven at this pace. Look at this from Chris
:55:24. > :55:27.O'Hare. Lewandowski... Cheruiyot, Lewandowski, O'Hare trying to
:55:28. > :55:32.squeeze through. Fast finishers on the outside. Chris O'Hare will go
:55:33. > :55:38.for the line. Willis under pressure. Chris O'Hare into the final. I think
:55:39. > :55:44.Willis will go through as the fastest loser as well.
:55:45. > :55:47.Well done Chris O'Hare. Into the World Championship final
:55:48. > :55:51.and what we have seen at these championships is when you're in the
:55:52. > :55:54.final, anything can happen. And you know, the semifinal is
:55:55. > :55:59.always the most dangerous. If you said Brendan, for trips and falls,
:56:00. > :56:02.also in terms of if it is slow, the kickers get a chance and that one
:56:03. > :56:11.was worked out perfectly well for Chris O'Hare. He didn't put a foot
:56:12. > :56:16.wrong. He did not. Holusa was able to win it. We had three men lining
:56:17. > :56:22.up, now we have one definitely in the final. Chris O'Hare - the roars
:56:23. > :56:28.of the crowd. He will appreciate. He'll get a lot more on Sunday. If
:56:29. > :56:31.he runs as wisely as that, I think he'll be in contention on Sunday.
:56:32. > :56:37.Here they are, coming around the bend. There he is making a move.
:56:38. > :56:40.He's accelerating quickly. Eased out by Lewandowski.
:56:41. > :56:48.Wisely he has drifted further. Here they come in the straight. They are
:56:49. > :56:52.battling. Nicholas Willis has guided him around.
:56:53. > :56:56.Holusa through the finishing line. Chris O'Hare relaxing now. A shade
:56:57. > :57:05.early. He had to keep going a little longer. Closed up very, very tight.
:57:06. > :57:09.In front, on the line, Chris O'Hare, Lewandowski, Cheruiyot and Holusa
:57:10. > :57:13.and Chris O'Hare, well, I thought that was a very, very mature
:57:14. > :57:17.performance and I think we should all look forward to Sunday. I am
:57:18. > :57:26.sure he'll carry the flag pretty well on Sunday evening.
:57:27. > :57:32.You have shown what a great racing brain you have to reach the final.
:57:33. > :57:38.It was a weird race, to be honest with you. Nicholas Willis is
:57:39. > :57:46.normally a guy, I key off from behind. He was up there early on.
:57:47. > :57:51.Just got to, I knew that if I could could be at the top five at the bell
:57:52. > :57:57.I would be fine. I don't feel great, to be honest. Can chill out. With
:57:58. > :58:02.performances like that can you be in the mix for the medals come Sunday?
:58:03. > :58:04.Nobody's going in the final with any other expectation than trying to win
:58:05. > :58:08.a medal. That's me, too. Wish you all the
:58:09. > :58:14.best for the final. Well done for tonight. Appreciate it. Cheers!
:58:15. > :58:19.Doesn't matter if you don't feel good in the semis. Getting through,
:58:20. > :58:26.that is the important thing. He is through.
:58:27. > :58:33.John Gregorek makes it through as well.
