:00:56. > :01:08.It may be a short walk to the starting blocks. But the journey is

:01:09. > :01:17.long. Some may have travelled here further than others. But that's only

:01:18. > :01:24.if you're measuring in miles. The journey is something you live. It's

:01:25. > :01:32.early mornings and endless drills. It is feeling the pain in the wind

:01:33. > :01:38.and the rain. It's missing out. But you wouldn't have it any other way.

:01:39. > :01:45.MUSIC There may be twists and turns in the

:01:46. > :01:51.road. And you may question if you can get

:01:52. > :02:07.there. But everyone has the same

:02:08. > :02:15.destination in their sights. It's a case of who will arrive first.

:02:16. > :02:21.Hello, good evening and welcome to the London Stadium for night eight

:02:22. > :02:26.of this wonderful World Athletics Championships. A week ago tonight,

:02:27. > :02:31.Mo Farah stormed the first gold of the Championships. Since then, wait

:02:32. > :02:35.Britain have not won a medal. Dina Asher-Smith is the first chance

:02:36. > :02:40.tonight. Can she get herself among the medals? We shall see. That race

:02:41. > :02:44.goes off at 9:50pm tonight. And it is the final final of the night.

:02:45. > :02:49.There is lots to come between now and then on BBC One. The men's

:02:50. > :02:53.hammer final is about to get underway. Britain's Nick Miller is

:02:54. > :02:58.in action. It is the final event of day one of the decathlon, the 400m.

:02:59. > :03:03.The steeplechase final is just before 9:30pm, before the evening

:03:04. > :03:09.concludes with the final. Dafne Schippers, the reigning champion,

:03:10. > :03:12.start as favourite. Dina Asher-Smith couldn't walk let alone run six

:03:13. > :03:19.months ago with a broken foot, but she continues to defy the odds, can

:03:20. > :03:25.she claim in middle? -- a medal. I'm delighted to say that we have been

:03:26. > :03:29.joined, Daley, Denise, Michael and I by Greg Rutherford. You enjoying

:03:30. > :03:32.these Championships? I am. It's very different to be talking about it

:03:33. > :03:36.than actually being out there. I have been every day in the mixed

:03:37. > :03:39.zone. Normally I would be walking through it and talking to people

:03:40. > :03:48.every day it's been really interesting. It's difficult... Some

:03:49. > :03:52.athletes are trying to recover, and you are trying to grab them! Some

:03:53. > :03:57.have been a bit awkward, but most have been lovely. Maybe that is

:03:58. > :04:00.because it has been a very unpredictable Championships. I

:04:01. > :04:02.imagine there's quite a few people walking through the mixed zone who

:04:03. > :04:07.might have expected to do a bit better as they came off the track.

:04:08. > :04:12.That has made it very exciting. We haven't seen as many amazingly fast

:04:13. > :04:15.times, distances etc, but we have seen brilliant moments. One that six

:04:16. > :04:19.out at the moment is Miller in the fore. That is something that

:04:20. > :04:22.everybody is slightly confused about what happened. The more the

:04:23. > :04:27.following day she was fine. She could be contested to win that local

:04:28. > :04:32.tonight. An amazing Championship so far. One I'm really enjoying is

:04:33. > :04:35.expected to. At the moment, the women's long jump competition, if

:04:36. > :04:39.you are with us on BBC Two you will have seen most of that, it is drawn

:04:40. > :04:43.to a conclusion. This is the leading jump, as we sit here now. Brittney

:04:44. > :04:51.Reese of the United States of America. She put together a great

:04:52. > :04:55.jumpy, Greg. She is one of the dominant forces the long jump. And

:04:56. > :04:59.somebody who are classed as part of the big three, with Spanovic and

:05:00. > :05:04.Bartoletta. As we are seeing here, Klishina is having the meat of her

:05:05. > :05:07.life, never having won a world or Olympic medal, she has been over

:05:08. > :05:12.seven metres before. She is now mixing it up for a medal. It's a big

:05:13. > :05:16.one. Obviously she is competing at Willo Flood. It's fascinating to see

:05:17. > :05:20.what happens if she gets top three -- on that note flight. And if she

:05:21. > :05:23.makes the top of the podium, it will be the first of the air in a

:05:24. > :05:32.athletes, who are not affiliated, who have been allowed to competing

:05:33. > :05:35.at -- the dispensations. Klishina spends most of her time in the USA.

:05:36. > :05:38.She has been deemed fit to compete here. Let's get out of the final

:05:39. > :05:43.round of the long jump final. Steve Fulcher walk you through it. --

:05:44. > :05:46.Steve will talk you through it. COMMENTATOR: The lead is Brittney

:05:47. > :05:53.Reese of the USA. Bartoletta is one last chance to retain her World

:05:54. > :06:01.Title and deprive her team-mate of the lead. Seven metres and two

:06:02. > :06:05.centimetres for Brittney Reese. And a very average series so far for

:06:06. > :06:09.Tianna Bartoletta, but it is improving as she goes. Last chance

:06:10. > :06:14.for the reigning champion. Fast NB approach. Oh, now then. That's her

:06:15. > :06:18.best jumpers or fast NB approach. Her best jumps of foreign

:06:19. > :06:22.competition. I think it is going to challenge that lead. It may put her

:06:23. > :06:29.up into the medals -- of the competition. Bartolotti much more

:06:30. > :06:34.committed there. -- Bartoletta. That is the one thing she has going for

:06:35. > :06:37.her. She'd rate so much speed, nearly ten metres per second on the

:06:38. > :06:46.runway there is a book she'd rate so much speed. She keeps her feet up

:06:47. > :06:50.high and hangs on to the landing. It is 6.97 for Tianna Bartoletta. She

:06:51. > :07:00.goes up into third place, and pushes Lorraine Ugen down into fifth place.

:07:01. > :07:04.So, then, she moves further away from the levels. Can she climb back

:07:05. > :07:11.up the leaderboard? Look at Lorraine Ugen, the last chance. Over striding

:07:12. > :07:14.again. A bit shy of what she needs. Oh, that's disappointing. I thought

:07:15. > :07:19.she may have been able to muster something that in that last round.

:07:20. > :07:26.Just has been pushing her run-up back and over striding. You can see

:07:27. > :07:29.her reaching. She doesn't quite get to the board. They will have moved

:07:30. > :07:35.it back because she was so close. 30 centimetres there. That's always a

:07:36. > :07:38.problem. You move the runner-up back and then your eyes take over and

:07:39. > :07:42.used to fill the space in front of you with that over striding. Really

:07:43. > :07:47.unfortunate -- you start to fill the space. Lorraine Ugen, no improvement

:07:48. > :07:55.in the last round, has to settle for fifth place with that 6.70 two. --

:07:56. > :07:59.six .72. She shows massive potential and I'm sure she has learned a lot,

:08:00. > :08:03.somebody to watch going forward, for sure. Lorraine Ugen, 25 years of

:08:04. > :08:15.age. Beginning to believe, maybe. So, then. Klishina, two centimetres

:08:16. > :08:21.behind the lead. Brittney Reese. Seven metres on the button in the

:08:22. > :08:26.fifth round. In the last round, in pursuit of a gold medal. Good

:08:27. > :08:31.height. And good distance. Oh, did she is that back there is likely?

:08:32. > :08:39.Maybe. The gold-medal line just beyond that seven-metre line. Good

:08:40. > :08:44.job from Klishina. She has cemented herself that in the silver medal

:08:45. > :08:50.place. A little thing on the board with the bent knee. Her right elbow

:08:51. > :08:53.may have cost us valuable centimetres. A good job, she has

:08:54. > :09:06.jumped really well through this competition, Darya Klishina. But it

:09:07. > :09:09.looks as though it's a silver medal. 7.02 would ask questions of Brittney

:09:10. > :09:14.Reese in this last round. An agonising wait for her. There is

:09:15. > :09:21.Brittney Reese watching on. A good poker face. She knows that Spanovic

:09:22. > :09:27.in fourth place... 6.83 full Klishina. No improvement. So then,

:09:28. > :09:36.only Spanovic is left to challenge, to get back into the medals. She is

:09:37. > :09:40.in fourth place with 6.90 six. -- six .96. Last jump from European

:09:41. > :09:46.indoor champion. It's a big one. Wow, look at that! Really close

:09:47. > :09:52.tussle for the medals. And Spanovic may have saved her best for last

:09:53. > :09:56.year. 6.96 is her best. That's might have a look at this. She runs and

:09:57. > :10:04.accelerates. She strides on the runways... Very good board. Will it

:10:05. > :10:12.be enough to beat Brittney Reese? Will she go to fall into the medals?

:10:13. > :10:15.Spanovic waiting. It is 6.91. Outside of the medals. That confirms

:10:16. > :10:25.victory for Brittney Reese of the USA. Amazing fourth World Title. And

:10:26. > :10:33.America have been so dominant. Brittney Reese and Tianna Bartoletta

:10:34. > :10:35.between them. Well, it wasn't quite the firework competition that we

:10:36. > :10:41.thought about. It was very close indeed. Centimetres, just two of

:10:42. > :10:49.them between gold and silver. And Brittney Reese has bought the

:10:50. > :10:54.opportunity to jump with no pressure is all in the knowledge that she has

:10:55. > :11:01.claimed the victory here. And can let loose. Fast NB approach,

:11:02. > :11:06.Brittney Reese, last jump, big foul. It is possibly how long is definite

:11:07. > :11:09.-- fast on the approach. It won't matter, she has the gold -- it is

:11:10. > :11:19.possibly her longest effort. Brittney Reese, big victory there.

:11:20. > :11:22.She led from that third-round jump. Brittney Reese, they say it only

:11:23. > :11:29.takes one jump. Brittney Reese only got two legal jumps out of the six,

:11:30. > :11:33.but she got the 7.02. Brittney Reese has won a World Title every year for

:11:34. > :11:41.five years in succession. And there's another one. Brittney Reese,

:11:42. > :11:47.champion of the world. STUDIO: Congratulations to Brittney

:11:48. > :11:50.Reese. High-quality long jumping. But really showing that Lorraine

:11:51. > :11:54.Ugen, who has been knocking on the door, Greg Rutherford, of seven

:11:55. > :11:57.metres, you have got to get over that seven metres, at least within

:11:58. > :12:01.touching distance, to get on the podium. Definitely. The women's long

:12:02. > :12:04.jump is one of the strongest events at the Championships. You look at

:12:05. > :12:08.some of the girls in there, they are some of the best ever at women's

:12:09. > :12:15.long jump. Brittney Reese has a PB of 7.30 one. She is an exceptional

:12:16. > :12:19.job at -- seven .31. A worthy winner against might. We have been hearing

:12:20. > :12:22.all kinds of things about conditions here. We were under the impression

:12:23. > :12:27.that it was a quick drag, maybe that is because we were here on warmer

:12:28. > :12:31.anniversary game nights. -- a quick track. Some of the distances have

:12:32. > :12:35.been a bit down. Conditions on conducive to speed power events

:12:36. > :12:39.anyway. It has been called, the wind has been swelling. I was watching

:12:40. > :12:43.the long jump at the start for the women, they were having quite a lot

:12:44. > :12:47.of headwinds. I mean, it's no good for sprinting or jumps. I think the

:12:48. > :12:51.distance runners will probably like it a bit better because it is cooler

:12:52. > :12:55.and they can push a bit harder. Fundamentally, if you are trying to

:12:56. > :12:59.run fast, jump long. These are the conditions to do that. These girls

:13:00. > :13:03.have gone a fantastic performance. I haven't said good evening once more.

:13:04. > :13:06.Daley Thompson is with us on the sofa tonight alongside Denise and

:13:07. > :13:16.Michael. Although these conditions might not be conducive to distances

:13:17. > :13:19.and times, it doesn't seem to be stopping by USA collecting more gold

:13:20. > :13:21.medals. Things just getting better. We had two of them on the sofa this

:13:22. > :13:24.evening. Kori Carter and Christian Taylor. And there's another one.

:13:25. > :13:29.There are two muddles here. The bronze medal, and Brittney Reese --

:13:30. > :13:33.two muddles. She is just an icon now of the women's long jump, she has

:13:34. > :13:38.won so many titles that I've lost count. The American team is doing

:13:39. > :13:41.fantastic. You know, there have been some misses there as well but

:13:42. > :13:45.there's so much depth with that team and that really allows them just to

:13:46. > :13:48.rack up the medals. OK, it is time to get going on the track for the

:13:49. > :13:52.men's 400m of the Digard long, it is the last event of day one. Let's

:13:53. > :13:56.remind you of the standings because it has been a while so they were in

:13:57. > :14:00.action. They were doing high jump at 5:30pm. That left the leaderboard,

:14:01. > :14:07.if you like, looking like this. Cameron Meyer of France has -- Kevin

:14:08. > :14:16.Mayer of France has had a great day so far. The 400m is in the burst of

:14:17. > :14:26.those heats. Andrew Cotter is calling this one for you.

:14:27. > :14:33.COMMENTATOR: Mikel dude is goes in this one, as he did in the 100m. He

:14:34. > :14:37.hasn't run this year, too quick for many of these athletes. Because he

:14:38. > :14:43.hasn't run one this season, he gets put first up. The French athlete

:14:44. > :14:53.downing 20 Six Place at the moment. Thomas found a platinum.

:14:54. > :15:01.He is not too far away from his wife's personal best. Kevin Mayer

:15:02. > :15:07.got off to a flyer. A big personal best. Very close to PB in the long

:15:08. > :15:12.jump, the shot put. Just a centimetre a way in the high jump.

:15:13. > :15:24.That is why he leads by 109 points from the Germans. So, outside those

:15:25. > :15:30.might you have got the Estonian athlete and the Japanese, 30th. --

:15:31. > :15:37.outside Dudas. In terms of overall standings, Cameron Meyer is first --

:15:38. > :15:41.Kevin Mayer is first. And the Estonian athlete in lane seven is

:15:42. > :15:48.eight. The quickest man here will be the Frenchman.

:15:49. > :16:00.So Kevin Mayer chasing down a personal best. And already making a

:16:01. > :16:04.move on Maicel Uibo, the east tonian and also as expected Mihail Dudas,

:16:05. > :16:14.the Serbian, who has won 4747 before. He's striding away from the

:16:15. > :16:20.best. Mayer begins the long, long hunt for Mihail Dudas. That long

:16:21. > :16:29.stride, almost more suited to 400 metres. Mihail Dudas, and Mayer.

:16:30. > :16:34.Kevin Mayer looking for a 48. 28. Mayer is finishing the stronger of

:16:35. > :16:43.these two at the moment. Dudas is beginning to tire.

:16:44. > :16:50.Smiles and celebrates. These two, a little bit too good forest of this

:16:51. > :16:53.field because they hadn't run 400 metres, hadn't registered times this

:16:54. > :16:59.season. So put into this heat. But Dudas and Mayer, a class apart.

:17:00. > :17:05.Dudas from 13th place and Kevin Mayer, he's clear at the moment.

:17:06. > :17:09.He's 109 points cleerp. He's a very good 400-metre runner. Some in the

:17:10. > :17:14.fourth heat who could put a bit of pressure on. But that time from

:17:15. > :17:19.Kevin Mayer, which we will clear up in a moment, I don't think many will

:17:20. > :17:23.make up much ground on the silver-medallist. But now the

:17:24. > :17:31.strong, strong favourite for gold here.

:17:32. > :17:37.You said you were in the mix zone. You have to get down there for your

:17:38. > :17:43.next shift. What has been your highlight so far? I really loved

:17:44. > :17:49.watching the win actually. I think the fact he'd only done the event

:17:50. > :17:54.two years. He was a decathlete before that. Someone who is 21 come

:17:55. > :17:56.out of multi-events win a world title. The time was not that fast.

:17:57. > :18:08.What a brilliant story. Thank you very much, Greg. Let's

:18:09. > :18:11.have a reflection on Kevin Mayer there - that 400 metres. Started the

:18:12. > :18:16.day strongly, ended it very strongly. That is the best way.

:18:17. > :18:22.Establish yourself, let everybody know you are in great shape. What I

:18:23. > :18:26.was looking for is when he was competing last year in the Olympics

:18:27. > :18:30.he was the favourite. Now it is a different ball game and a different

:18:31. > :18:34.menialty. He shows he is really strong after four events. He's

:18:35. > :18:44.enjoying carrying that cloak of favourite, isn't he? And not having

:18:45. > :18:52.Ashton-Eaton there. He wants to prove he's the one. He absolute will

:18:53. > :18:57.I wants to be the man. For lo so long there has been the main man,

:18:58. > :19:04.who has been a great champion, but he knows that, I guess in world

:19:05. > :19:13.athletic terms, his per for mans last year got overshadowed. That

:19:14. > :19:16.medal got lost in the greatness of Ashton-Eaton. He's come in on a

:19:17. > :19:21.mission. I think he's set out and laid out his determination and what

:19:22. > :19:27.he wants to prove to everybody is, actually am the new guy, a new man

:19:28. > :19:36.and watch what I can do. He's got to contend with Boss, who was in the

:19:37. > :19:40.studio the other night, who will give him a challenge.

:19:41. > :19:46.The champion, lying in fourth, going into the 400 metres. What have you

:19:47. > :19:51.made of him today. World champion twice. He's 33 now. And to be

:19:52. > :19:54.honest, he's amazing. He's producing season's bests.

:19:55. > :20:01.As I said, you cannot ask for much more. You will see him in the 100.

:20:02. > :20:07.He looked really good. Started the day well with a 10. 75. That, as I

:20:08. > :20:13.say is a season's best for him. And considering he's 33 years old,

:20:14. > :20:18.he is running really well. 168 points for that. A great start

:20:19. > :20:27.as we learn from Christian Taylor, the man who is the American team

:20:28. > :20:32.captain. Motivating his team. Trey has been around for so many years.

:20:33. > :20:35.He's had injuries that have prevented him really proving what

:20:36. > :20:39.he's got. He's been consistent over the years. He's strong. He's got

:20:40. > :20:44.some strong events and this kept him in the game this one. He needed to

:20:45. > :20:51.pull out a big one for that shot put. He was under pressure. 800

:20:52. > :20:54.points he got there. He's, I'm surprised, I don't think

:20:55. > :20:58.many people thought he would come back to this level. Not just

:20:59. > :21:03.physically and start doing television in the US as well and

:21:04. > :21:17.moved on. He's done a brilliant job of getting back into it, getting

:21:18. > :21:22.himself healthy, into these championships in medal contention.

:21:23. > :21:26.What does he need to do here to finish his day with some confidence?

:21:27. > :21:31.I think he's got to run close to his personal best. The high jump was

:21:32. > :21:36.good for him. His shot put was OK. He's not going fantastic. He's not

:21:37. > :21:41.going so bad. He can gain some confidence if he runs really well

:21:42. > :21:46.now. It is weird for you, I imagine watching these 400-metre races,

:21:47. > :21:58.because it's so different to the men's 400, with respect, Daly. These

:21:59. > :22:01.guys have competed all day across a range of different disciplines and

:22:02. > :22:06.then they have to run a lap as fast as they can. It is tough. It is

:22:07. > :22:10.tough because the strategy has to be completely different from a world

:22:11. > :22:17.class 400-metre runner who is coming in fresh. These guy vas to take into

:22:18. > :22:23.congum gum -- have to take into context what they have been doing.

:22:24. > :22:29.You only have so much left at the end of the day. How do you manage

:22:30. > :22:34.that efficiently to get to the finish line with zero? Absolutely.

:22:35. > :22:41.Michael has hit the nail on the head. The nice thing, you have to

:22:42. > :22:44.spend days together. It is not like being a sprinter where you do the

:22:45. > :22:49.100 and you spend two minutes with everybody. Here you spend the whole

:22:50. > :23:00.two days. The other thing that Ashley has to do, he runs about

:23:01. > :23:04.46.5, 49.5 and, if he gets anywhere under 49.8, he's doing well.

:23:05. > :23:08.Let's get down to the track and Steve Cram, in these days of people

:23:09. > :23:13.being kind of suspicious of each other, to see two people sharing a

:23:14. > :23:15.bottle of water there shows great trust between these athletes.

:23:16. > :23:24.None of you have sat next to Andrew Cotter obviously in the commentary

:23:25. > :23:32.box - no sharing of water, or anything. Trey Hardee outside Ashley

:23:33. > :23:41.Bryant there. Trey Hardee is having a good day. He's in fourth place.

:23:42. > :23:48.He's had seasons best. Tricky conditions here - the veteran. These

:23:49. > :23:58.guys, as Daly said, all running about 49 seconds. Trey Hardee has

:23:59. > :24:04.run quicker. There's only 36 points between second and fourth. Second,

:24:05. > :24:10.third and fourth. Ashley getting a good cheer from the crowd.

:24:11. > :24:14.Trey Hardee, the only one in this field who can have any thoughts

:24:15. > :24:22.about a possible medal. What a story, I guess, that would be.

:24:23. > :24:40.The two Germans. I guess Trey Hardee will look for

:24:41. > :24:45.something, as will Ashley Bryant. If he could get low 49s, that would be

:24:46. > :24:49.great. It is a bit breezy today around the

:24:50. > :24:53.Olympic Park. You can see the wind just fluttering

:24:54. > :25:05.there. Hardee well out of the blocks, for a

:25:06. > :25:09.33-year-old he started quicker than anybody else and left Ashley Bryant

:25:10. > :25:17.behind. Will he pay for that? Settles down and out. Further

:25:18. > :25:21.outside Braun of the Netherlands has started quickly.

:25:22. > :25:25.Trey Hardee set the pace. Ashley Bryant struggling a little bit.

:25:26. > :25:29.Passed him through 200 metres on the stagger. Now Trey Hardee checking

:25:30. > :25:33.back a little bit. Has he got anything here on the home straight?

:25:34. > :25:39.The others will chase. He might have overcooked this a little bit through

:25:40. > :25:45.the first 00 metres. He is a -- first 200 metres. He is a strong

:25:46. > :25:51.man. Dubler comes through. Trey Hardee fighting through the last

:25:52. > :25:56.five, ten metres. Hardee may well have gone sub 49. Will not be too

:25:57. > :26:02.far away. He set out as though he was 23, not 33.

:26:03. > :26:15.And found a bit of pace. With the 400, it is a tough event at the best

:26:16. > :26:21.of times. But at the end of the day, it will always be hard. Toni, are

:26:22. > :26:26.you watching this? Yes. I am. 400 metres. I think it is one of the

:26:27. > :26:31.toughest things to do. 400 at the best of times is a hard event. Maybe

:26:32. > :26:38.overcooked it, Trey Hardee there. He's a 47. 5 man at best. But you

:26:39. > :26:41.cannot read a lot into that. I think what Trey would have gone is not

:26:42. > :26:44.gone through the motions, but done enough to get through the American

:26:45. > :26:50.trials in order to be here. He's gone out hard. I was speaking to his

:26:51. > :26:55.coach, who is here, well Paul Doyle is his agent more than anything.

:26:56. > :26:59.They are hoping for around 8.4, 85. He could be -- 8.5. He could be

:27:00. > :27:03.there or thereabouts when they decide the medals at the end. He's

:27:04. > :27:08.run well. Ashley Bryant a season's best for him in the 400 as well.

:27:09. > :27:15.Hardee, out of four events has had season's bests including the 400.

:27:16. > :27:21.The men's hammer about to get under way. Nick Miller did well to make

:27:22. > :27:24.this final and has a chance. It is a wide-open competition. Two Poles

:27:25. > :27:46.expected to do well. Miller hoping for big things. So

:27:47. > :27:48.then, into the second round, and at the moment it is Quentin Bigot of

:27:49. > :28:08.France in the lead. 76.22 in the first. That is a throw

:28:09. > :28:12.that will take the lead. In this second round Poles throwing over 80

:28:13. > :28:17.metres. Just feeling their way into this competition. Maybe a few

:28:18. > :28:43.nerves. It was heaving with rain in qualifying. The hammer thrower threw

:28:44. > :28:47.well. Great Britain's Miller after a foul in the round, he qualified in

:28:48. > :28:50.the wet. Looking to repeat that kind of performance, needs to relax, find

:28:51. > :28:55.some rhythm early in this competition. This looks good. Oh,

:28:56. > :28:59.fell away. Did he save it? I think he did. It's not a bad throw though

:29:00. > :29:05.at all, considering he was off balance. That bodes really well,

:29:06. > :29:11.gold and silver medal lines just behind him.

:29:12. > :29:16.Sokyrskii just shy of Miller's record. He's thrown better than

:29:17. > :29:22.that. His season's best this year is around the mark. So Nick Miller in

:29:23. > :29:27.with a chance here. Good second throw from Miller.

:29:28. > :29:34.So here is the Olympic champion, somewhat of a surprise last year.

:29:35. > :29:46.Pawel Fajdek going out in qualifying in Rio.

:29:47. > :29:51.Nazarov, 35 years of age. Hammer thrower's tend to mature later than

:29:52. > :30:00.other athletes across other events. Glove on the left-hand.

:30:01. > :30:03.7. 2 62 hammer. All about sitting back wide, getting that power.

:30:04. > :30:09.Didn't quite get the acceleration there, or did he? Well, that's a

:30:10. > :30:21.throw just shy of the gold medal line, if those lines are accurate.

:30:22. > :30:26.Like a wind surfer, sitting back on the sail, have to sit back and keep

:30:27. > :30:31.that large orbit. We are in this second round and it looks like we

:30:32. > :30:37.are waiting for somebody to take control. Goes into second place.

:30:38. > :30:44.Earlier this evening, Brittney Reese of the United States jumped 7.2 to

:30:45. > :30:49.secure her Third World Championship gold. She's got indoor gold and

:30:50. > :30:51.Olympic gold. She delivered again. And Phil caught up with her

:30:52. > :31:03.afterwards. jet, I congratulations! You held for

:31:04. > :31:08.fingers up and you are celebrating. It's an amazing achievement, can you

:31:09. > :31:11.believe it? No, I can't! I had a tough couple of weeks with the death

:31:12. > :31:15.of my grandfather, I had a hard time getting over it. He was the reason

:31:16. > :31:19.why I got on the track. I know that I needed to come out here and put in

:31:20. > :31:24.a performance for him, not just for myself. I'm glad I got my four for

:31:25. > :31:30.him. That is a great tribute to him, you're victory is a great tribute to

:31:31. > :31:35.him. I know he will have a smile right now. Is for the couple of

:31:36. > :31:39.years you had of injury, you bounced back for real. It says a lot about

:31:40. > :31:43.your character. Your loss says a lot about your character, you are a

:31:44. > :31:47.strong person as well as a talented one. I've been through a lot, but I

:31:48. > :31:50.know that I can do it. I'm still in top shape, I'm still a contender in

:31:51. > :31:55.this event and I'm going to continue to get stronger and stronger until

:31:56. > :31:58.I'm done. Condolences on your loss. But you have paid the perfect

:31:59. > :31:59.tribute your grandfather tonight with that so few and really excited

:32:00. > :32:10.about that. Well done. We are into the third round of this

:32:11. > :32:13.men's hammer final. Nick Miller findings of a ninth place. Only

:32:14. > :32:18.eight will make it through to the second half of the competition and

:32:19. > :32:24.get three more throws. His best so far, 75 metres 78. He needs more. He

:32:25. > :32:28.is capable of more. Somewhere close to his British record might be

:32:29. > :32:32.needed here. That's a big shout from him. It's a long throw. Look at

:32:33. > :32:40.this! Great Britain's Nick Miller right in amongst it. Between the

:32:41. > :32:45.gold and silver medal lines there. Well, we know he's brave enough.

:32:46. > :32:55.He's committed enough. He's capable enough of going all the way here.

:32:56. > :32:59.Especially at these distances. It's 77.31, Miller goes into the silver

:33:00. > :33:05.medal position in the third round. Beautiful throw.

:33:06. > :33:11.Tremendous noise inside the stadium for Nick Miller. As we move on the

:33:12. > :33:16.third of the four heats of the men's 400m capital. The German is sitting

:33:17. > :33:28.in third place at the moment. He is settling in. We have seen that

:33:29. > :33:36.montage of Daley Thompson winning the gold in the first war

:33:37. > :33:42.Championships in Helsinki. His father is a competitor rival. I say

:33:43. > :33:45.a rival, he never got close! Anyway, in the bronze medal position at the

:33:46. > :33:55.moment with the last event of the first day of the decathlon. Rick of

:33:56. > :34:00.Rijkaard is a decent 400m man. The quickest man may well be in lane

:34:01. > :34:06.eight. Also going well, Kirk Felix in the inside and the green and red

:34:07. > :34:11.of grenade. Fifth place at the moment. Ukrainian, Cazenove, inside

:34:12. > :34:18.his line. Rico Fry and trying to keep pace with some very quick men.

:34:19. > :34:29.-- Praught. Rico Freimuth is finishing strongly.

:34:30. > :34:32.Rico Freimuth Reading his teeth and digging in as the Japanese athlete

:34:33. > :34:38.fades away. Rico Freimuth is going to take it 48-42. A seasons best

:34:39. > :34:42.time, that is something for Rico Freimuth. Down on his personal best.

:34:43. > :34:46.Really it is how he has been running this season. He knows that is a

:34:47. > :34:52.decent time to produce a season's best. 48.41, slower than Kevin Mayer

:34:53. > :34:56.run in the first heat. He will lose a little bit of ground on Kevin

:34:57. > :35:07.Mayer. But it is him trying to keep pace. Kaczmarek was tied on the same

:35:08. > :35:12.number of points, a very quick 400m runner. Rico Freimuth did what he

:35:13. > :35:14.had to do in posting a decent time to put him in a very good position

:35:15. > :35:27.at the end of the first day. Well, there's Nick Miller. What an

:35:28. > :35:32.effort from him within 24 centimetres of his British record in

:35:33. > :35:41.that third round. He goes up into the medals at the halfway stage.

:35:42. > :35:49.Great performance from the Brit. One of two very capable Polish hammer

:35:50. > :35:55.throwers watching. 76.54 in the second round. Expect more, because

:35:56. > :36:04.he is ranked two in the world behind his team-mate this year. Wojciech

:36:05. > :36:10.Nowicki, round three. Good angle, good positions. He hooked it. Is it

:36:11. > :36:15.going to stay in the sector's it does, just. And it's going to take

:36:16. > :36:16.the lead, I think, if the lying is beyond that gold line for Wojciech

:36:17. > :36:27.Nowicki. Nothing still to really scare Nick

:36:28. > :36:31.Miller, I have to say. Throws of 77, even 78 metres. He looks capable of

:36:32. > :36:35.doing that. Nick Miller's British record, 70s .55. You may need to

:36:36. > :36:51.improve that -- 77 .50 five. The French athlete, he served a

:36:52. > :36:59.two-year drugs ban, I should share that with you, Quentin Bigot. He

:37:00. > :37:03.likes that. He's got onto this. Around that, oh, right on the

:37:04. > :37:07.medals. You could throw your hat over one, two and three here. It

:37:08. > :37:12.looks as though it is a throat that might push Nick Miller threat off

:37:13. > :37:17.further down the pecking order. -- push Nick Miller further down.

:37:18. > :37:26.Nothing that should scan it Miller. He can go beyond all of these guys.

:37:27. > :37:29.I know he believes that he can. 77.46, an improvement for Quentin

:37:30. > :37:36.Bigot. Miller down to fourth place as we stand. Three throws remaining.

:37:37. > :37:43.Just 15 centimetres operating Nick Miller and that middle zone. --

:37:44. > :37:46.separating. I spoke to him at the British Championships, he said it

:37:47. > :37:50.was up to him to get his arms long, accelerate the ball down through the

:37:51. > :37:54.bottom and out. He had a tendency to bend his arms and shot as a

:37:55. > :37:58.conference which slowed the hammer. But we have seen some great hammer

:37:59. > :38:03.throwing from him today. That is the talk of Gustavsson, his coach, also

:38:04. > :38:09.the bronze-medallist last year. Sophie Hitchon, Nick Miller, can he

:38:10. > :38:11.medal here at the World Championships? That would be some

:38:12. > :38:25.performance. As the attention turns to the

:38:26. > :38:32.Olympic champion, Dilshod Nazarov. It really close tussle this is going

:38:33. > :38:38.to be for the medals. As the Tajikistan Olympic champion settles

:38:39. > :38:41.at the back of the circle. Wind it wants around the head and start the

:38:42. > :38:47.full term, settling, the knees bend, exhilaration. He doesn't like it.

:38:48. > :38:54.It is a big effort? Name at just around 75 metres. No improvement for

:38:55. > :39:01.Dilshod Nazarov, he stays in fifth place. Some frustration. Frustration

:39:02. > :39:05.gathering for the Olympic champion. Knees extended, driving up, looking

:39:06. > :39:09.to finish that. He maybe doesn't feel, it is very much a feel, rhythm

:39:10. > :39:13.and balance event. You do get a lot of feedback from the forces that

:39:14. > :39:22.come through the body. Dilshod Nazarov not liking that. No

:39:23. > :39:30.improvement. So, the Polish athlete is expected to take the victory

:39:31. > :39:35.here. But he is in seventh place with 77 metres and nine centimetres.

:39:36. > :39:39.He is unbeaten this year, though. Maybe he just needs to relax. He

:39:40. > :39:44.messed up last year. Can he happened twice? A big shout from him. He

:39:45. > :39:49.likes it a lot. There is the best throw we have seen so far. Finally,

:39:50. > :39:57.Pawel Fajdek getting it right and putting it possibly out of reach.

:39:58. > :40:02.Well, reigning world champion, Pawel Fajdek, he is fallible, though, as

:40:03. > :40:11.he showed last year in real, not making the final. -- last year in

:40:12. > :40:18.Rio. It opened the door for Dilshod Nazarov, one of the last Olympic

:40:19. > :40:25.Games. But here at the worlds, he takes the lead. Nick Miller, now in

:40:26. > :40:32.fifth place. But the medal is still within his grasp. And he has three

:40:33. > :40:36.more throws to get back in amongst those medals. Really close

:40:37. > :40:43.competition. Nick Miller right in amongst it. Well, we now have the

:40:44. > :40:48.final heats. Two athletes, Bubba Ruger has not been having a good

:40:49. > :40:55.day, the German, at all. Nos a prize that he doesn't like it appear.

:40:56. > :41:04.The man who was at the start of this final event on the first day, joint

:41:05. > :41:08.second place, the German, he has just seen from Earth -- he has just

:41:09. > :41:18.seen Rico he ran a good 400, keeping himself

:41:19. > :41:27.in contention. Gavin Williams of the USA. -- Devon Williams. That is a

:41:28. > :41:35.personal best. He set it this year. 48.4. Two empty lanes. Then we go to

:41:36. > :41:41.the Estonian athlete. Another one to have run a personal best that the

:41:42. > :41:48.400 this year. And everyone, the Olympic bronze-medallist -- and

:41:49. > :41:54.Damian Warner. Distant from the medal Chase at the moment. He needs

:41:55. > :41:58.a very good 400 here, one. At the moment not contending the way he

:41:59. > :42:04.would have liked. Dazzle Boaden of Austria on the inside. -- distilled

:42:05. > :42:11.burger. As they dropped the end of day

:42:12. > :42:20.Warner is so quick, such a fast man. He didn't produce a particularly

:42:21. > :42:32.good time at the 100 early on. What can he do here in the 400? And

:42:33. > :42:33.Kazmirek, can he put a bit of distance between himself and his

:42:34. > :42:54.competitor? Oh, Kazmirek has got thicker outside

:42:55. > :43:02.him, and Victor -- has got Victor outside of him. Now moves into his

:43:03. > :43:09.stride nicely. Williams sees him disappear through that first 200m.

:43:10. > :43:13.One going well, near the inside on lane three. It's just the Canadian

:43:14. > :43:19.and the German -- Warner going well. It looks as though Kazmirek might

:43:20. > :43:22.want to touch this. One, as the stag unwinds, might just have the lead

:43:23. > :43:30.coming into the home straight. Kaczmarek and Damian Warner. Look at

:43:31. > :43:37.this, Kazmirek moving away. As Damian Warner starts to fade a

:43:38. > :43:41.little bit. Watch the clock, 47.2. A season's best for the man who missed

:43:42. > :43:45.out on the medals in Rio. He was behind Damien won on that occasion.

:43:46. > :43:52.He is doing himself the power of good here. That is an excellent 400m

:43:53. > :43:57.the finished day one. -- to finish day one. He will be still in touch

:43:58. > :44:03.to some expense, but importantly for him, putting distance between

:44:04. > :44:07.himself and his competitor. Kazmirek looks like a proper runner. I

:44:08. > :44:11.thought he had given too much energy going down the back straight with

:44:12. > :44:15.that effort. But he has surged past the man on his outside. He had

:44:16. > :44:20.plenty in the final 50 metres. These are heavy men, powerful athletes. It

:44:21. > :44:21.really starts to pay off over the past 50 metres. Kazmirek, rewarded

:44:22. > :44:32.with a very good time. STUDIO: We are about 35 minutes away

:44:33. > :44:37.from the final track event of the night, which is the women's 200m

:44:38. > :44:43.final. And Great Britain has its that event. Lena Asher-Smith. Lining

:44:44. > :44:45.up, she may be quite petite in size -- Deena Asher Smith. But she has

:44:46. > :45:06.bags of personality. Short, smiley, probably shot again

:45:07. > :45:10.because I am really small. You can't really see it from here, but I'm

:45:11. > :45:18.really small. The new British record... Great Britain have a

:45:19. > :45:23.bronze medal! She has fractured her foot. I had to have surgery. Chaka

:45:24. > :45:30.Hahn love screws in it and get on with it. I wasn't too happy with

:45:31. > :45:31.this, especially my straight -- -- chuck a couple of screws in it and

:45:32. > :45:42.get on with it. She goes in lane eight at that race.

:45:43. > :45:46.At the beginning of this year she broke her foot. Couldn't walk. Took

:45:47. > :45:51.her six weeks to get back on her feet. She's made these championships

:45:52. > :45:56.and this final. She was fifth in Rio, of course last year and fifth

:45:57. > :45:59.in the last world's. But that woman there was first last time she raced

:46:00. > :46:24.200 metres in a World Championships. And Talu had a wonderful 100 metres.

:46:25. > :46:29.She took away that silver medal. Stevens of the United States also a

:46:30. > :46:36.really, really strong 200-metre runner. She'll look to push herself

:46:37. > :46:40.amongst the medals, as will Kimberlyn Duncan of the United

:46:41. > :46:55.States and Crystal Emmanuel of Canada.

:46:56. > :47:09.Nick Miler looking to extend, well if he controls this and the hammer

:47:10. > :47:13.doesn't hit the floor, he can start again.

:47:14. > :47:18.Right, needs to compose himself. There's his clock. He did well there

:47:19. > :47:21.to save that. And give himself another chance.

:47:22. > :47:24.Just looking to get rid of that dizziness which will be in his head

:47:25. > :47:30.or spinning around two or three times. He will use all the clock

:47:31. > :47:37.here. He's 20 centimetres behind his season's best. Less than a metre

:47:38. > :47:43.behind a silver medal. Miller, no, no, no, fourth attempt.

:47:44. > :47:48.All unravelled just a little bit. Two attempts remaining.

:47:49. > :47:52.As long as he keeps the hammer head turning and keeps it off the floor

:47:53. > :47:56.outside of the circle, he has to go again. As Steve mentioned, it is

:47:57. > :48:00.difficult with dizziness and is there enough time to compose

:48:01. > :48:05.yourself? A lot of effort goes into those turns. Unfortunately there he

:48:06. > :48:08.tried to start again, but he's still in the competition, he's thrown

:48:09. > :48:26.really well. So I am sure there's more to come from Nick Miller here.

:48:27. > :48:36.So Nick Miller eyeing up in front of him, as we see Quentin Bigot of

:48:37. > :48:42.France. Sokyrskii, a neutral athlete, Fife

:48:43. > :48:51.centimetres short of Miller's record and the poles out in front. Medals

:48:52. > :49:00.are within reach of Nick Miller. And boy, does the British team need

:49:01. > :49:08.them. So here is Sokyrskii. Fourth place

:49:09. > :49:13.so far. Transferred from the Ukraine to Russia in 2014. It is bad timing,

:49:14. > :49:23.isn't it? Sokyrskii. 77. 50.

:49:24. > :49:29.So then, with two throws after this one to conclude this competition the

:49:30. > :49:33.throwers just looking to, well, there is a metre ahead of Nick

:49:34. > :49:38.Miller that he needs to find. Sokyrskii is one of them. Just

:49:39. > :49:42.centimetres ahead of the Brit. So then Sokyrskii looking to move up

:49:43. > :49:47.the medals. Can he? A bit flat there. Got his angles a little bit

:49:48. > :50:00.wrong. It is over 75 metres again. But only just. He found it anyway.

:50:01. > :50:06.Sometimes this happens, nobody has done much A decent throw, but no-one

:50:07. > :50:10.else for a while. A foul from Sokyrskii. I know you probably can't

:50:11. > :50:15.hear this at home, but the stadium's gone a bit quiet. When we had the

:50:16. > :50:22.action on the track and there was music, we just have a slow Erith

:50:23. > :50:33.them to it. -- slower Rhythm to it. You cannot

:50:34. > :50:38.see this off camera, but the mascot, Hero The hedge hoj, maybe he can

:50:39. > :50:45.liven up the stadium for us! There he is. Don't do it! He's done it.

:50:46. > :50:51.Well done! So it is a strange atmosphere in the

:50:52. > :50:56.stadium. This might be good for Nick Miller. He needs to compose himself,

:50:57. > :51:00.slow down. Thinking clearly under pressure - a big factor when it

:51:01. > :51:08.comes to delivering at major championships.

:51:09. > :51:14.Well, Steve, while Nick Miller prepares himself, the steeplechasers

:51:15. > :51:29.head out for their final. There's Emma Coburn. The Olympics for

:51:30. > :51:33.Coburn. These World Championships for Krause. Can either get among the

:51:34. > :51:42.African contingent which is so strong here? Emma Coburn is getting

:51:43. > :51:44.married later this year, on my birthday. Thought I should remind

:51:45. > :52:06.you at this point. Poland in gold and silver, as was

:52:07. > :52:11.expected on paper, at least. Of course, that doesn't make any

:52:12. > :52:16.difference, and its distance is within reach of Nick Miller.

:52:17. > :52:21.Nowicki, round four. A big scream, big shout from him. I don't know

:52:22. > :52:26.why, because it was no improvement. Just maybe trying to wake himself

:52:27. > :52:30.up, get emotionally involved back in this. Huge forces - of course we

:52:31. > :52:34.cannot see them, but massive. These guys lift some of the biggest

:52:35. > :52:42.weights in the gym of all the athletes.

:52:43. > :52:49.78. 03. Still in second place. No

:52:50. > :52:51.improvement for him. Expect this to go far - he is in the lead and once

:52:52. > :53:23.he's out in front, he can settle. He's released a big throw again

:53:24. > :53:26.here. Fajdek has released it on that

:53:27. > :53:36.80-metre line. So might be a slight improvement. He knows he's leaving

:53:37. > :53:42.the door open for his team-mate. Possibly others if they can come

:53:43. > :53:50.join them. Nowicki has a season's best. So, still there. 79. 81 to

:53:51. > :53:55.consolidate his first place. So Miller knows what he needs to do.

:53:56. > :54:02.He is still in fifth place - a Bronze Medal at the moment is 77.

:54:03. > :54:05.67. Miller will need to throw a British record further than he's

:54:06. > :54:13.ever thrown before and he's got two throws to do it.

:54:14. > :54:17.Can Nick be our hero? There's Hero The Hedgehog.

:54:18. > :54:28.A few other people around here he might be able to take the jobs of.

:54:29. > :54:33.Well, another distance final. : 5,000 tomorrow night. Mo Farah. Got

:54:34. > :54:40.the women's 5,000 as well. The 1500 for men. 800 for women and this

:54:41. > :54:54.steeplechase final here and this lady here, the world record holder.

:54:55. > :54:58.Emma Coburn ran brilliantly, the American, in Rio. Coached by her

:54:59. > :55:01.partnership. Getting married later in the year. Diro, such good

:55:02. > :55:17.athletes here. Jepkemoi will hope she can keep her

:55:18. > :55:25.title. Two years ago, seems such a long time ago now.

:55:26. > :55:30.This young lady has a prospect here, Celliphine Chepteek Chespol - a

:55:31. > :55:34.medal at the junior cross-country championships earlier in the year

:55:35. > :55:43.and has run under nine minutes and she's only 18.

:55:44. > :55:50.The women's 38,000-metres steeplechase final.

:55:51. > :55:54.Away they go. Just over seven-and-a-half laps of the track.

:55:55. > :55:59.They don't take the water jump on the first lap.

:56:00. > :56:05.Quickly the USA. I will bring Paula in a second as I watch them go

:56:06. > :56:10.around that bemed. You see the cones that are out, some controversy, she

:56:11. > :56:13.was disqualified in the qualification for putting a foot on

:56:14. > :56:18.the line, on the water jump. She's not in this final. Probably two

:56:19. > :56:22.Americans. That was deemed harsh. We have seen it over the last couple of

:56:23. > :56:26.championships. They have definitely kept a close eye on where the

:56:27. > :56:31.athletes place their feet around that bend. She barely brushed the

:56:32. > :56:35.line. Maybe a little bit unlucky to be disqualified. That

:56:36. > :56:37.disqualification stood. It means that her training partner and

:56:38. > :56:41.team-mate was the only representative of that training

:56:42. > :56:44.group. There are still two American girls here in this final, with Emma

:56:45. > :56:50.Coburn leading that American challenge. They will have their work

:56:51. > :56:55.cut out to keep up with the Kenyan and Bahrainiian challenger. We are

:56:56. > :56:59.keeping an eye on Nick Miller, he will go shortly in the hammer. In

:57:00. > :57:04.fact, he's heading towards the circle now. Steve, there he is down

:57:05. > :57:10.in the... Well, he's waiting to go into the circle. What do you reckon?

:57:11. > :57:17.Well, he needs to really set a rhythm in this round. He's just seen

:57:18. > :57:26.a neutral athlete go into the Bronze Medal position with a throw of 77.

:57:27. > :57:29.98. So the medal that Nick Miller would so dearly want to attain at

:57:30. > :57:35.these World Championships is moving slightly further away from him.

:57:36. > :57:39.But he is capable. It is still within half a metre of his British

:57:40. > :57:44.record. And half a metre of his season's best. So really close. I

:57:45. > :57:50.think close enough to really believe, really believe - that is

:57:51. > :57:54.what he's got to do. In this penultimate throw of the

:57:55. > :58:01.hammer final. Can Nick Miller throw a throw to get

:58:02. > :58:09.himself into the medals? Two spins before four turns - it's fast, his

:58:10. > :58:13.time - it is a big throw for Miller. I thought that was better. Maybe

:58:14. > :58:17.just lost that release there. It looked quick. Fell away, lost his

:58:18. > :58:23.balance. Hopefully he got some sort of

:58:24. > :58:29.feeling there that tees him up for the last round. Just leaning back

:58:30. > :58:35.there, off balance slightly. And Nick Miller, no improvement. It is

:58:36. > :58:39.76. 16 though. So, one throw remaining.

:58:40. > :58:44.Still needs something up towards 78 metres to get into the meadles. --

:58:45. > :58:50.medals. So one more throw for Nick Miller.

:58:51. > :58:55.We have had drama all over the place in this steeplechase. It has been

:58:56. > :59:00.around that lady there, number 11, Chepkoech. I said you don't take the

:59:01. > :59:11.water jump after the start, but the next time around, yes, you have.

:59:12. > :59:16.Hold on a minute! She's gone all of the way back now. She hasn't cut any

:59:17. > :59:20.corners and she's taken the water jump. Whether or not she'll be

:59:21. > :59:27.disqualified, I don't know. Anyway, she then absolutely legged it to

:59:28. > :59:32.catch up and then took about 200 metres and then this happened. So,

:59:33. > :59:36.she took one or two down with her and then got up again and tried to

:59:37. > :59:41.catch the field. The problem for her is the race was up and away and

:59:42. > :59:45.running. Chepkoech started to push the pace

:59:46. > :59:51.already. And she's now back in that second group, if you like. So we

:59:52. > :59:56.have seven that have broken away. Chepkoech leading them. The world

:59:57. > :00:03.record holder. The Kenyans will be working together here. Chepkoech,

:00:04. > :00:05.the defending champion and the two Americans. And Yavi trying to hang

:00:06. > :00:17.on in there. She is having a phenomenal race,

:00:18. > :00:21.Chepkoech. She has already used those surges of adrenaline couple of

:00:22. > :00:24.times to get as of back into contention, and made mistakes. The

:00:25. > :00:28.race mean well was moving on each time she has managed to get herself

:00:29. > :00:32.back up there in this group that is breaking away. They went through the

:00:33. > :00:36.first kilometre in three minutes and two, then they have picked it up.

:00:37. > :00:47.That is why it has all stretched out. Emma Coburn trying to her mum.

:00:48. > :00:54.A team-mate with her. But the youngster, Chespol, in second place,

:00:55. > :00:57.just following the leader. She clattered into the barrier in Paris

:00:58. > :01:03.in the Diamond League. That's what we're talking about Wow! That is how

:01:04. > :01:06.Campbell got disqualified last year when Chespol didn't take that

:01:07. > :01:10.Quansah properly. They are being very strict on this. You bet the

:01:11. > :01:17.Americans will already be that little bit there when Chespol

:01:18. > :01:20.almost, as she went past the corner, did she stand on the line, did she

:01:21. > :01:32.cut it? Let's have a little look. Coming from the corner... No, I

:01:33. > :01:36.think she was all right. She's obviously been warned and want and

:01:37. > :01:41.won by the Kenyan federations. I think she's all right there. -- and

:01:42. > :01:45.warned. Emma Coburn still there. This pace has turned into a pretty

:01:46. > :01:49.quick race. Emma Coburn hanging onto the back of that group. Courtney

:01:50. > :01:53.Frerichs behind her is having the race of her life. I have been

:01:54. > :02:01.looking to see where Krause is, and she is way back. She was impeded on

:02:02. > :02:05.the second for Chepkoech. It definitely impeded and affected her

:02:06. > :02:10.race. At the moment, Emma Coburn is hanging in there and Courtney Frears

:02:11. > :02:20.taking it better than her team-mate. She has only run nine 9.19. Just

:02:21. > :02:26.inside three minutes for the second kilometre. Very fast indeed. This is

:02:27. > :02:32.even Emma Coburn's best. She looked up at the screen. She knows that the

:02:33. > :02:36.Olympic champion is ahead of her. Chespol, this brilliant and, the

:02:37. > :02:41.18-year-old does behind. I would be thinking, if I was Emma Coburn,

:02:42. > :02:47.surely Chepkoech, I don't know if she realises what Chepkoech has had

:02:48. > :02:53.to do. The defending champion is tucked in there. She might be

:02:54. > :02:56.thinking, I only have to beat one of them in front of me. She has to

:02:57. > :03:00.believe that she knows she has a strong finish and she will be able

:03:01. > :03:06.to use that over the final lap. It depends how much they use in energy,

:03:07. > :03:12.trying to stay with Jebet's surge. It looked as though Chespol is spent

:03:13. > :03:18.now. The 18-year-old has been in very good form. She has fallen off

:03:19. > :03:24.the pace. Jebet trying to run away and wear them down. Trying to get a

:03:25. > :03:28.gap year. She's still got her defending champion in fourth place

:03:29. > :03:32.at the moment. Look at the American. Emma Coburn looks good, comfortable

:03:33. > :03:36.and strong. From bowler Colorado. She won a medal last year. Her

:03:37. > :03:43.team-mate is having a cracking race, but she is coming to take the medal.

:03:44. > :03:48.Her hurdling technique is better than that of the other two, but does

:03:49. > :03:55.she have the endurance pace to stay strong enough of this last lap?

:03:56. > :04:02.Courtney Frerichs is still there. Jebet catches the heels of

:04:03. > :04:07.Chepkoech. Emma Coburn, her team-mate has got past her and is

:04:08. > :04:10.thinking, what a nerve is going on? Look at Fredericks, she's going for

:04:11. > :04:14.this. All of a sudden, the world-record holder is gone. Four

:04:15. > :04:20.women, just two strides between them all. Chepkoech finally starts to

:04:21. > :04:28.fault. It is two Americans against the defending champion, what a race

:04:29. > :04:30.this is! Emma Coburn on the inside, takes the wall better than her

:04:31. > :04:38.team-mate and the defending champion, Jepkemoi. Emma Coburn has

:04:39. > :04:46.got one more barrier to take safely. She's over it. This is going to be a

:04:47. > :04:51.superb performance. Another shock at these Championships. It's the USA,

:04:52. > :05:06.Emma Coburn, the gold-medal. Courtney Frerichs the silver. 9:2.5

:05:07. > :05:09.nine. -- 9:2.5. She is inside the American record. They move up both

:05:10. > :05:17.of them onto the all-time list as well. The 1-2 in the steeplechase.

:05:18. > :05:20.Not for Kenya, or Ethiopia, or Bahrain, or any of the countries

:05:21. > :05:31.which have the North African runners running for them, for the USA.

:05:32. > :05:36.Courtney Frerichs cannot believe it. What testimony, Paula, to her

:05:37. > :05:40.partner? The two of them have worked together for the last 12 months or

:05:41. > :05:45.so. Said it was about time you started coaching me, I believe in

:05:46. > :05:50.it. Courtney Frerichs can't believe it. Sometimes when you do that,

:05:51. > :05:54.people question it and think it is to close a relationship. But

:05:55. > :05:57.goodness me has it pulled through. It definitely has. Whoever said the

:05:58. > :06:03.steeplechase was not a dramatic event? There was so much drama in

:06:04. > :06:07.that race. Chepkoech, she just... She made so many mistakes you can't

:06:08. > :06:12.even start to list them in that race. Emma Coburn kept her head. She

:06:13. > :06:15.ran the race of her life, as did Courtney Frerichs, who took it to

:06:16. > :06:19.her. She probably knew in fairness of that last lap that she didn't

:06:20. > :06:24.have the speed of the final lap that Emma Coburn had. She laid it on the

:06:25. > :06:32.line and did the work to take the questions and be able to ask those

:06:33. > :06:34.questions, and she hung on bravely, and it really was their hurdling

:06:35. > :06:43.technique that counted, I think, over that final lap. You made the

:06:44. > :06:48.point about Chepkoech, she had missed the water jump, run 30 metres

:06:49. > :06:54.more than everyone else and has had a fall. Only at this point did she

:06:55. > :07:00.fall off it. The difference, Paula, when this happens, Cockburn, no feel

:07:01. > :07:05.for this last, watch this. -- Emma Coburn. Great technique. Courtney

:07:06. > :07:11.Frerichs as well. This is the first Championship record of these World

:07:12. > :07:13.Championships in London. 9.02. Goodness me there will be a public

:07:14. > :07:23.inquiry in Kenya! Now, while we are watching these we

:07:24. > :07:26.may be getting some news which could be good news about Lynsey Sharp. I

:07:27. > :07:33.will bring that to you when we confirm it. That Emma Coburn and

:07:34. > :07:42.Courtney Frerichs, an unbelievable 1-2. Gold and silver for the USA.

:07:43. > :07:47.That will be celebrated in bowler, Colorado, I'll tell you, never mind

:07:48. > :08:12.in the USA. -- in bowler Colorado. Superb.

:08:13. > :08:18.STUDIO: Well, that was an incredible race. We've had so many surprises

:08:19. > :08:21.already in this Championship. That is another one. We're still waiting

:08:22. > :08:26.to confirm the news about Lynsey Sharp. We will do that, we will can

:08:27. > :08:29.permit as soon as we can. But Emma Coburn and Courtney Frerichs. We've

:08:30. > :08:33.seen some celebrations, there's another one. Look at those images!

:08:34. > :08:47.That is utter disbelief. Courtney Frerichs, where did she get

:08:48. > :08:53.that from? That was brilliant. We are into the last round of the men's

:08:54. > :09:10.hammer final. Valeriy Pronkin. The neutral athlete. Chasing the two

:09:11. > :09:17.Polish throwers, Nvidia on -- no Wakey and Fajdek. -- Nowicki.

:09:18. > :09:25.Oh, it's very long in terms of the levers that he used. It is a big

:09:26. > :09:29.throw. The challenge is just beyond the silver medal line. It is on the

:09:30. > :09:35.edge of it. This is going to come down to the smallest of margins. He

:09:36. > :09:39.is one of the tall throwers. Kept his levers well there. And his

:09:40. > :09:44.balance, we talked about balance early year. A really good example of

:09:45. > :09:50.that. 78-16. Pronkin separates the Polish droves. Nick Miller, you know

:09:51. > :09:58.exactly what you need to do to get the bronze medal, -- Polish

:09:59. > :10:03.throwers. Nowicki, beyond his British record. Millot needs to turn

:10:04. > :10:10.faster and be stronger with it than ever before -- Munua. More forces,

:10:11. > :10:16.of course. He needs some quick turn the. Oh, it's hitting the cage. Oh,

:10:17. > :10:22.I'm so disappointed for Nick Miller. He really went for it and it ends in

:10:23. > :10:27.a foul. The coach is not happy. He knew that was an opportunity. Sixth

:10:28. > :10:30.place for Miller. The fast free terms of course, the more force

:10:31. > :10:36.there is, the more he is leading back to counter it, his head in his

:10:37. > :10:41.hands. He knew that he had a throw in excess of his lifetime best in

:10:42. > :10:48.him there. But he just couldn't find it in the last round. His best,

:10:49. > :10:55.77.31. So, disappointment for Miller. Nowicki of Poland has been

:10:56. > :10:59.pushed down into bronze by that through of Pronkin that we just saw

:11:00. > :11:07.two throws a go. Fajdek is out in front. Nowicki, either set for

:11:08. > :11:12.bronze or improve his evening's work and the colour of his medal. He is

:11:13. > :11:19.guaranteed bronze. Can he find more? It's long. Oh, he's not sure about

:11:20. > :11:27.it. No, you won't. So, Fajdek again takes a goal. There he is. -- takes

:11:28. > :11:31.a goal. As we've seen on a number of occasions, getting ready for his

:11:32. > :11:37.final throw. His first reaction is necessarily a celebration. Poland

:11:38. > :11:49.one and three, Pronkin, the neutral athlete, in silver. And Pawel Fajdek

:11:50. > :11:55.retains his World Title. Nowicki hands the victory to his team-mate,

:11:56. > :11:59.Pawel Fajdek. Well, we can now confirm that news about Lynsey

:12:00. > :12:02.Sharp. She has been reinstated. She's received a conduct warning

:12:03. > :12:11.from the jury of appeal. It has been reinstated. And that time of 1:59.47

:12:12. > :12:14.means that she is in the final is the fastest loser. Let's remind you

:12:15. > :12:19.what happened. Lynsey Sharp was in a battle down the home straight with

:12:20. > :12:29.lips each of the USA. -- with Lipsey. Lynsey Sharp and Lipsey were

:12:30. > :12:31.fighting for third spot. Lynsey Sharp.

:12:32. > :12:33.fighting for third spot. Lynsey Linked arms unintentionally,

:12:34. > :12:39.apparently, I think to keep her balance. She pushed away off Lipsey.

:12:40. > :12:43.The two of them did qualify as fastest losers. Originally they had

:12:44. > :12:50.been disqualified. She had been reinstated and is in the final.

:12:51. > :12:57.We are at the halfway stage in the decathlon. And Kevin Maher has had,

:12:58. > :13:02.well, his best first they ever. The Frenchman silver-medallist in Rio

:13:03. > :13:07.last year, he is 43 points up on what he did last year for that

:13:08. > :13:10.French record. And it is day two, even better. For the final event in

:13:11. > :13:16.his second day, he has had a lifetime best this year. He has been

:13:17. > :13:22.given something to think about. Five events to come tomorrow.

:13:23. > :13:27.STUDIO: The excitement is building here in the stadium towards the last

:13:28. > :13:31.event on the track, the women's 200m final. Michael has gone over to his

:13:32. > :13:35.touch-screen corner, I will head over there now. It is a very

:13:36. > :13:40.exciting final. It just occurred to me then, Dafne Schippers has got the

:13:41. > :13:47.bronze medal in the 100m. She is a 200m brushless. Then you have

:13:48. > :13:50.Miller-Uibo, this is where they should be meeting, this is the event

:13:51. > :13:56.you would think it is perfect for a head-to-head. It turned out to be a

:13:57. > :14:00.good head-to-head matchup. Miller-Uibo in the 400, that didn't

:14:01. > :14:06.materialise. That look at both of them, starting with Dafne Schippers.

:14:07. > :14:13.A world champion at 200m. 21.63 in a fantastic race. She is a really

:14:14. > :14:19.strong athlete, tall ranging. She runs pretty much at even pays, the

:14:20. > :14:23.200m here. Coming from the 100m. They are already starting to slow it

:14:24. > :14:27.down. You see the mph going down. She has already got the lead. She

:14:28. > :14:32.established a good lead of the pit. She ran a hard bend, she always

:14:33. > :14:36.does. Right here coming off, starting to look round, with the

:14:37. > :14:40.100m to go on, still in that semifinal. A world-class field. That

:14:41. > :14:45.was impressive. She looked really good. I would say that she probably

:14:46. > :14:49.looked best in has a final ESA they. So she is in a great position going

:14:50. > :14:54.into this final. Let's look at Shaunae Miller we bow here. You can

:14:55. > :14:57.see how she runs it, which is a bit different. A bit different approach

:14:58. > :15:01.coming from the 400, you would expect. She wrote it hard. But she

:15:02. > :15:07.is not running as hard around the bend. She waits until she comes off

:15:08. > :15:14.the bend. And now she starts to put on this speed. You can see the speed

:15:15. > :15:17.going up, up to 22, 20 2.3, now she starts to relax as she establishes

:15:18. > :15:21.the lead in the first ten metres or so after coming off that bend.

:15:22. > :15:25.That's a little bit of a different approach. I would expect that in the

:15:26. > :15:31.final... Clearly nothing wrong with her tribute in the 400m in the

:15:32. > :15:34.semifinal. Dina Asher-Smith, an incredible year, really. Injury at

:15:35. > :15:38.the beginning of the year, unable to run. She has run herself in the last

:15:39. > :15:39.few weeks into some kind of shape. What have you made of her

:15:40. > :15:51.performance so far? She's so small, she's able to

:15:52. > :15:55.generate the power you need out of the start. So a really good

:15:56. > :15:59.semifinal here. It shocked us all a bit to see her come around the bend,

:16:00. > :16:03.at this point n the lead and starting to fight down the home

:16:04. > :16:08.stretch. Unlike the last two we saw, she's got to run the whole thing. We

:16:09. > :16:12.saw some fatigue there. The forces you want to generate are here, where

:16:13. > :16:17.you are pushing back against the track and she is able to hold that

:16:18. > :16:22.position much longer than most people because of how short she is.

:16:23. > :16:26.You want from here, to shoulder to hip, to knee, to ankle. You want to

:16:27. > :16:31.generate that force as long as you can. Because she's so short, she's

:16:32. > :16:36.able to do it for longer. That is a real weapon for her. They didn't run

:16:37. > :16:41.the 200s in the trial. They were not sure how her foot would stack up.

:16:42. > :16:49.Here she is, and as always with these finals there is the showbiz

:16:50. > :16:54.razzmatazz and the athletes take to the course. We expect she'll get a

:16:55. > :16:59.huge reception from the home crowd - craving some kind of success here in

:17:00. > :17:11.this stadium. We've had so many near misses. What do you feel - could she

:17:12. > :17:15.run herself into the medals? She's in lane eight, which Michael

:17:16. > :17:19.suggested, she's going to out really hard around that bend. So it is just

:17:20. > :17:23.whether she has the discipline not to overcook it on the turn. And

:17:24. > :17:31.leave herself something in that last 40 metres. What we didn't see in the

:17:32. > :17:35.semis. You have to watch for Ta Lou. She's in lane four. She's run a

:17:36. > :17:40.personal best this year. There she is. If anything that we have seen

:17:41. > :17:49.over the past week is anything to go on, the things we have seen, it is,

:17:50. > :17:54.it hasn't been the big ones and this one and Miller-Uibo we have talked

:17:55. > :18:04.about, it may be those outside the medals or potential bronzed whofl

:18:05. > :18:09.have gone and got that. Do Do you go and save something for

:18:10. > :18:15.the end of the race? Something that is missing from her is speed and

:18:16. > :18:20.endurance. I would hope I could hang on. She kind of had to go for it in

:18:21. > :18:24.the semis. Like a normal season, she would know where she was with her

:18:25. > :18:30.fitness, but she's still testing that. Is this going to be too big an

:18:31. > :18:34.ask for her after the season she's had. Let's see Dina Asher-Smith,

:18:35. > :18:44.fifth in Rio, fifth in Beijing. In front of a home crowd. What can she

:18:45. > :18:49.do. Andrew Cotter and Colin Jackson. THE COMMENTATOR: That would have

:18:50. > :18:52.been a distant dream a couple of months ago - anything will be a huge

:18:53. > :19:01.bonus. Now the rain starts to come down here. This is the line up for

:19:02. > :19:12.the 200 metres. Those three in the middle, Marie-Josee Ta Lou, Nick

:19:13. > :19:23.Miller and Dafne Schippers will be very hard to beat.

:19:24. > :19:29.Dina Asher-Smith ran the same time in the semifinal. And Deejah

:19:30. > :19:33.Stevens, she can finish very strongly, so too can the two women

:19:34. > :19:37.here. Dafne Schippers, when she gets

:19:38. > :19:51.going, such a powerful sprinter. Bronze in the 100 metres and Nick

:19:52. > :20:00.Miller, the Olympic 4 -- and Shaunae Miller-Uibo the Olympic champion.

:20:01. > :20:04.Shaunae Miller-Uibo, the Olympic 4 -- and Shaunae

:20:05. > :20:15.On the inside Crystal Emmanuel. Flying a few weeks ago. 22. 50, a

:20:16. > :20:32.new Canadian record. And Emmanuel goes on the inside.

:20:33. > :20:37.For this final event of this evening here what can Shaunae Miller-Uibo do

:20:38. > :20:43.after that 400 metres? She will not falter as she did over the longer

:20:44. > :20:52.distance. Dina Asher-Smith goes in eight.

:20:53. > :21:07.Ta Lou left a little bit there. She'll power and get quickly to

:21:08. > :21:15.running. Dina Asher-Smith out quickly. Now come Shaunae

:21:16. > :21:22.Miller-Uibo. Schippers, Asher-Smith, can Asher-Smith hold on? It is Ta

:21:23. > :21:29.Lou, Schippers. It is Schippers ahead. Ahead of Marie-Josee Ta Lou.

:21:30. > :21:37.Shaunae Miller-Uibo and Dina Asher-Smith. Fourth at the World

:21:38. > :21:43.Championships. It is 22. 07 for Dafne Schippers - the champion

:21:44. > :21:45.defends her title. Bronze in the 100, bronze in the 200. She is

:21:46. > :22:01.champion again. She knows she is fourth. They say it

:22:02. > :22:06.is the coolest position. Bearing in mind what she's had to struggle

:22:07. > :22:11.against this season. Schippers is unbeaten in the 200 metres. I am

:22:12. > :22:14.very pleased for Dafne Schippers. But Dina Asher-Smith is something

:22:15. > :22:19.incredible. Think of the whole process that she's gone through.

:22:20. > :22:23.Time and time again, she has to battle through physically and

:22:24. > :22:26.mentally, and she ends up in fourth place running a strongest race of

:22:27. > :22:34.the season when it matters, going 22. 22. That is just phenomenal. I

:22:35. > :22:38.can not describe to everybody how impressive that performance is by

:22:39. > :22:42.Dina Asher-Smith. I can imagine how frustrated she is, Andrew, the fact

:22:43. > :22:48.that she knows all the work she's missed and how close she was to

:22:49. > :22:52.getting the medal. She will be disappointed, we know that. But boy,

:22:53. > :22:56.oh, boy! We knew she would get out quickly. She took a huge amount out

:22:57. > :23:01.of the field over the first 60 metres. No messing about. Out of the

:23:02. > :23:05.blocks well. She's so experienced. Even tho eshe's young. She loves

:23:06. > :23:10.this event. She works hard around that turn but kept a cool head the

:23:11. > :23:14.whole way around. Look at Dafne Schippers - batting in the middle of

:23:15. > :23:18.the field. She wants to hang on to this title, doesn't she? She was not

:23:19. > :23:25.going to give it up easy. Straining at the back end, but doing enough to

:23:26. > :23:33.hang on to gold. I think of 2013 and the silver-medallist in the 100, and

:23:34. > :23:38.Marie-Josee Ta Lou denied by 300ths of a second here in the 200. That

:23:39. > :23:41.must be cruel for her to take. The Americans, Kimberlyn Duncan and

:23:42. > :23:46.Deejah Stevens would have come past Dina Asher-Smith. The time she's run

:23:47. > :23:51.there, 22. 22 and so close to that Bronze Medal. So close. Painfully

:23:52. > :23:54.close. But I hope this is really inspiration for them more than

:23:55. > :24:00.anything else. Because she's worked so hard to get to this position.

:24:01. > :24:05.Unbelievable performance. Through the rounds, learning every single

:24:06. > :24:11.time and wow, wow, wow! What a wonderful run by her. I hope she

:24:12. > :24:14.really appreciates what she's done. Dafne Schippers ahead of Marie-Josee

:24:15. > :24:23.Ta Lou, Shaunae Miller-Uibo and Dina Asher-Smith talking now to Phil.

:24:24. > :24:28.You are incredibly frustrated. I was coming down the home straight, I was

:24:29. > :24:34.like, I didn't know I was in this kind of shape, but then to see that

:24:35. > :24:38.I missed out on a bronze by 700ths. When you have broken your foot it is

:24:39. > :24:44.really not that much. I am quite frustrated, but at the same time, in

:24:45. > :24:48.like reflection I am really happy to have done a 22.22 with hardly any

:24:49. > :24:52.training. So, yeah. When you were in the blocks what were you hoping to

:24:53. > :24:58.achieve? I didn't even have placings in my mind. I know it sounds silly.

:24:59. > :25:02.I was happy to be here. I thought focus on your aim and go for it. I

:25:03. > :25:05.did and I was coming down the home straight. And the crowd were getting

:25:06. > :25:12.louder and louder. I thought it means it is going well. Keep going.

:25:13. > :25:17.And I did. Fourth - my best finish ever in a world final, but, so

:25:18. > :25:21.close. In years to come, but I just wonder,

:25:22. > :25:24.we've had so many fourth places in the British team, this one is a

:25:25. > :25:28.stand out in that everything you have gone through, the broken foot,

:25:29. > :25:35.the surgery, the pins in it and now here you are forth in the world. I

:25:36. > :25:40.am so happy honestly to run 22.2. It is faster than what I did last

:25:41. > :25:45.season. It is getting close to my PB. I am over the moon. We've had a

:25:46. > :25:50.lot of fourth places. Lots of the fourth places have been by people so

:25:51. > :25:56.young, they probably have another decade in them. They not have got a

:25:57. > :25:59.medal today but they are ones to watch in the years to come. I want

:26:00. > :26:04.to say thank you to all the people who got me back in track, to Martin

:26:05. > :26:08.and obviously my coach, who just believed in me every single sfep of

:26:09. > :26:12.the way. I honestly would not have been able to bang out a 22.2 if it

:26:13. > :26:18.was no t for their belief and hard work. Thank you, guys. Thank you.

:26:19. > :26:22.Yes, indeed and, as we were talking about there, fourth place - some

:26:23. > :26:26.fourths are worth celebrating. Half a second quicker than she was in the

:26:27. > :26:44.last round. Dafne Schippers defends her title

:26:45. > :26:48.with that great run. A fascinating run for so many reasons, Michael. An

:26:49. > :26:52.amazing race. We knew Dina Asher-Smith would get out quickly

:26:53. > :27:03.over there on the far side of your screen sand -- screen and she did. I

:27:04. > :27:09.talked about Ta Lou and how she's had a fantastic championships. The

:27:10. > :27:19.battle was down the home stretch. Schippers did a fantastic job not

:27:20. > :27:23.tightening up. Let's look at Dina Asher-Smith here. She ran the right

:27:24. > :27:27.type of race. We talked about that before the race started. Go out and

:27:28. > :27:31.go for it or safe something for the end. And she went for it. And what

:27:32. > :27:35.happens is, we saw a little bit of fatigue at the end of that race in

:27:36. > :27:39.the semi-finals, but the more you do this, the more your speed endurance

:27:40. > :27:43.increases. There's nothing like a race to help you with that. She went

:27:44. > :27:46.in there today, the speed endurance was there because her body's

:27:47. > :27:51.basically saying, oh, we did this yesterday. I can do this and that

:27:52. > :27:56.was a fantastic race. Congratulations to Dafne Schippers.

:27:57. > :28:01.A few years ago she was competing as a he athlete, then she switched to

:28:02. > :28:06.the sprint and she has been so dominant in the 200 since. She's a

:28:07. > :28:09.great 200-metre runner too. An incredible backing up that victory

:28:10. > :28:14.of 2015. She really was majestic there. We have seen how difficult it

:28:15. > :28:18.is for a defending champion to actually defend at these

:28:19. > :28:26.championships. She made it look great. She's strong. She's mentally

:28:27. > :28:29.tough and hungry. Ta Lou - I am really impressed with Ta Lou. She

:28:30. > :28:34.must have been disappointed after the 100 to come so close and to come

:28:35. > :28:37.out here and to be only again a couple of hundreds away from the

:28:38. > :28:41.gold. She's had a great championship.

:28:42. > :28:47.She has. It has been a great night for the United States. They take

:28:48. > :28:52.another two golds tonight. Brittney Reese in the long lump and the

:28:53. > :28:57.steeplechase. We will get more reaction. We are switching over to

:28:58. > :29:02.BBC Two right now. We are leaving you BBC One viewers with the news.

:29:03. > :29:03.If you want more athletics reaction
