:00:21. > :00:29.Michael Johnson... Storming away to another gold medal...
:00:30. > :00:35.Magnificent! That is history in the making!
:00:36. > :00:46.Jessica Ennis-Hill is back on top of the world! A new world record!
:00:47. > :00:55.Champion of the world... Usain Bolt...
:00:56. > :01:03.The London Stadium in the heart of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and
:01:04. > :01:05.this is the home of the 2017 world athletic championships. From
:01:06. > :01:10.tomorrow the greatest world and track athletes in the world will
:01:11. > :01:14.compete over ten days, aiming to jump further and throw further. It
:01:15. > :01:21.is the 16th World Championships. In the history the first time it has
:01:22. > :01:26.ever been held hooer in the UK. As we have seen since 1983 it given us
:01:27. > :01:40.great moments and fantastic champions.
:01:41. > :01:48.Whitbred, this is yours. Jonathan Edwards of Great Britain...
:01:49. > :01:54.Going away and the world record has gone!
:01:55. > :02:06.Jessica Ennis-Hill is back on top of the world!
:02:07. > :02:11.To become champion of the world. Christine Ohuruogu is the world
:02:12. > :02:19.champion. Oh, that's big! Oh, come on! It's going to be... Oh,
:02:20. > :02:25.my goodness. That is history in the making. Jackson takes it.
:02:26. > :02:33.Mo Farah, gold again. Fantastic for Farah. Usain Bolt!
:02:34. > :02:39.Some amazing names. Some great moments there and some faces we will
:02:40. > :02:44.see here in London trying to do it one more time. We will see, of
:02:45. > :02:48.course, new faces, new heros will be created at these championships. It
:02:49. > :02:53.will be a brilliant ten days. We start here on the finish line.
:02:54. > :02:57.There'll be much talk over the next week about the end of career, in
:02:58. > :03:12.particular Mr Usain Bolt. It is the final ever track race for Mo Farah
:03:13. > :03:16.as well. It is great to see you guys, Denise, Paula and Michael. And
:03:17. > :03:20.Michael, you get the feeling, it was incredible saying it is the first it
:03:21. > :03:26.time it has been held in the UK, these championships. You sense the
:03:27. > :03:32.IAAF will be pleased it is held in London, to come somewhere they know,
:03:33. > :03:37.a city that can deliver and a stadium that can deliver. London
:03:38. > :03:42.delivered in 2012, five years ago, right here in this stadium. And this
:03:43. > :03:47.country supports athletics like no other country in the world. And so,
:03:48. > :03:53.you know, I think this presents a great opportunity as one of the
:03:54. > :03:56.steps, of mini-steps required to restore credibility. This could be
:03:57. > :04:00.the start of Something Special for athletics over the next few years.
:04:01. > :04:04.It will need it with the retirement of Bolt and all the controversy and
:04:05. > :04:08.issues over the last few years. We will talk about him a lot over the
:04:09. > :04:12.next hour and next ten days or so. Who are the faces you are looking
:04:13. > :04:17.forward to seeing? The exciting new names? Well, from a domestic point
:04:18. > :04:22.of view, we have some fantastic young athletes that are going to use
:04:23. > :04:27.this opportunity. They will rekindle a lot of the magic that a lot of
:04:28. > :04:34.athletes competing here, both internationally will have had.
:04:35. > :04:40.Athletes like Shanon Hilton and Prescod. Making their mark in
:04:41. > :04:44.athlete ticks. It is very good. That home support will be very good for
:04:45. > :04:47.them. In a big-time stadium and big-time atmosphere. A packed
:04:48. > :04:52.stadium, which is what we love. This is why it is important that London
:04:53. > :04:56.does deliver. We have in the past. Record number of ticket sales.
:04:57. > :05:00.Record number of sales and these athletes will love that. It is
:05:01. > :05:04.incredible when you are here at the stadium the day before it is to kick
:05:05. > :05:08.off in 24 hours' time. They are putting down the final licks of
:05:09. > :05:13.paint. You can almost smell the glue, you can hear the noises. You
:05:14. > :05:21.may well over the next hour or so hear an them blasting away. -- an
:05:22. > :05:25.Anthem blasting away. We know Christine Ohuruogu is getting three
:05:26. > :05:29.medals tomorrow. That shows where the sport is learning from its
:05:30. > :05:33.mistakes of the past and trying to rectify the wrongs. Also, obviously
:05:34. > :05:36.going forwards, the athletes are able, from this championships
:05:37. > :05:41.forward, to make a commitment to a clean sport, aren't they? I think
:05:42. > :05:43.from all sides there. It is really important that those medal
:05:44. > :05:48.reallocations happen and they happen in a packed stadium. And that those
:05:49. > :05:51.athletes get the chance to see, because remember the majority of
:05:52. > :05:56.athletes are clean athletes, working very, very hard. What they want, and
:05:57. > :05:59.the number one role, really of the Governing body, is to look after
:06:00. > :06:04.their rights and enable them to compete on a fair and level playing
:06:05. > :06:09.field. We cannot guarantee that people will not try and cheat the
:06:10. > :06:13.system, but we can catch as many as possible and we can improve it and
:06:14. > :06:20.it is giving them the moments they lost. And of course we always want
:06:21. > :06:23.your input. Get in touch via Facebook, on twitter, #bbcathletics,
:06:24. > :06:25.if you will. Communicate with us over the next hour or so. This is
:06:26. > :06:37.what's coming up for you. We catch up with Usain Bolt, the
:06:38. > :06:39.greatest of all time. He will run in a major championship for the last
:06:40. > :06:42.time. Looking to make her mark on the
:06:43. > :06:48.world's stage is Laura Muir. She's doubling up in the 1500 and 5,000
:06:49. > :06:56.metres. Paula met up with her in Monaco. Laura will look for podium
:06:57. > :07:00.places. We look at the white, red and blues best chances. Home medal
:07:01. > :07:05.though won't be easy. That is because the very best in the world
:07:06. > :07:11.are here. We shine the spotlight on some of those standout global stars.
:07:12. > :07:16.As well as Usain Bolt, it is also Mo Farah's last global championships on
:07:17. > :07:21.the track. He tells us how he's feeling as he aims for another big
:07:22. > :07:25.race douvenlt Well, as we have said, Usain Bolt
:07:26. > :07:32.will be signing off on the track here in a major championship for the
:07:33. > :07:37.last time, aiming to add to his considerable haul of golds. He's in
:07:38. > :07:41.town and ready to bid us all farewell.
:07:42. > :07:51.I didn't know I was going to be a world record-holder growing up. I
:07:52. > :07:57.didn't know that I would be a three-time Olympic champion. No
:07:58. > :08:01.idea. Usain Bolt gets it! What I say to people entering sports, you have
:08:02. > :08:06.to put your mind to it and work towards it. He has no equal. No way
:08:07. > :08:11.to explain what I've done throughout my years. I am really proud of
:08:12. > :08:17.myself. What I want you to do is pick one
:08:18. > :08:21.performance that in your mind is the best performance you've ever done.
:08:22. > :08:27.For me, it would definite I will be Beijing. The first one, actually.
:08:28. > :08:31.200 metres. That was my dream. That was my main dream growing up. I
:08:32. > :08:36.always wanted to become a 200-metre Olympic champion. When I broke the
:08:37. > :08:41.world record, I didn't know I had. I was like... ! I was, there was no
:08:42. > :08:49.planned celebration in my head. So I was just, I didn't know what to do
:08:50. > :08:55.because I was so happy. You said at the beginning of every
:08:56. > :09:03.season you worry and you ask yourself, am I still fast? Today,
:09:04. > :09:07.are you? Yes. Without a doubt. How confident are you that you are in
:09:08. > :09:13.that kind of shape right now? Come on! You guys know if I show up at a
:09:14. > :09:19.championship I am confident to go. Do you fear for the future of
:09:20. > :09:24.athletics? I feel it's going the right direction. I think we made
:09:25. > :09:28.changes and I think sport hit rock bottom last season, so now, a couple
:09:29. > :09:37.of seasons ago, now it is moving forward. I think it's going the
:09:38. > :09:42.right direction. If they keep it up it will die and they won't have a
:09:43. > :09:47.job. Hopefully they will understand and help let the sport move forward.
:09:48. > :09:56.You wake up Sunday, 100 metres is done and dusted what will your
:09:57. > :09:59.legacy be then? Usain Bolt has retired, unbeatable over individual
:10:00. > :10:06.events. For me, that will be the headline, hopefully. That will be
:10:07. > :10:09.the biggest headline. I unbeatable, unstoppable.
:10:10. > :10:14.He needs to be unbeatable and unstoppable one more time in a major
:10:15. > :10:18.championship here in London. The legend and legacy, Michael Johnson,
:10:19. > :10:21.that is determined, isn't it? It is so difficult to imagine the sport
:10:22. > :10:26.without him. He's given us so much joy and wonderful moments. He's such
:10:27. > :10:31.an incredible character. I have spent so much time this week trying
:10:32. > :10:35.to imagine that and genuinely can't. He brings out the goose bumps,
:10:36. > :10:40.doesn't he? He does. He's been fantastic for the sport. He's been
:10:41. > :10:44.amazing. He's one of those special athletes that come along in sport.
:10:45. > :10:49.Not just in athletics, every, you know, every couple of decades or so.
:10:50. > :10:53.And we just were lucky this time that athletics and athletics we got
:10:54. > :10:59.one of them and it was Bolt. He's one of those that makes the sport
:11:00. > :11:07.scientist and biochemist re-think what we thought was possible from
:11:08. > :11:10.humans and performance. He's sort of redefined the sprinter in terms of,
:11:11. > :11:14.you know, how you approach the sport, and he's able to do something
:11:15. > :11:18.that no-one else can do. I mean, he can come out here just as he's going
:11:19. > :11:23.to do this week, without a lot of races under his belt. Not in the
:11:24. > :11:29.best of shape and still pull out victories. On the big stage, when it
:11:30. > :11:34.counts, against the best in the world. That speaks of his
:11:35. > :11:37.consistency, his talent, his level of natural ability and his
:11:38. > :11:43.confidence in himself. Let's go back to Rio, a year ago, and that in
:11:44. > :11:48.itself, and if anybody this week saw I Am Bolt and a following of him two
:11:49. > :11:50.years before Rio, that seemed to be a struggle to get himself to the
:11:51. > :11:54.line, in terms of his body, motivation. That was a final that he
:11:55. > :12:01.really had to push himself through. He did. I mean this was a tough
:12:02. > :12:06.final. There's Justin Gatlin over there. A huge gap. He is used to
:12:07. > :12:10.that. Usain Bolt is confident in his ability. He gets better and better
:12:11. > :12:14.with each round. He knows that all I have got to do, no matter what the
:12:15. > :12:19.struggles are through the year, in terms of injury, all I've got to do
:12:20. > :12:23.is get to the starting line. Here he is in Monaco, a few weeks ago. One
:12:24. > :12:28.of his only races this year. He looks laboured. Not that usual burst
:12:29. > :12:32.in pulling away from the field that we normally see. We don't see that
:12:33. > :12:37.here. That would have given him confidence, that hey, so long as I
:12:38. > :12:39.can get to the starting line, healthy, relatively healthy, I can
:12:40. > :12:43.beat anyone else in the world. And that is the confidence that he has.
:12:44. > :12:46.Now, the other guys will have something to say about it. You see
:12:47. > :12:48.them close to him. They are not used to being in this position. You know,
:12:49. > :12:53.and they will take some confidence from that. They will want to be the
:12:54. > :12:59.one to hand him a loss on his way out. They see that there is a little
:13:00. > :13:05.bit of a cink in the armoury at this point. He comes into this
:13:06. > :13:13.championships more vulnerable than any previous championship based on
:13:14. > :13:18.his time this year. One ten second and it's only 9.95. At the same
:13:19. > :13:21.time, you know, the field isn't very good this year. People aren't
:13:22. > :13:26.running as fast as they have in the past. You see Justin Gatlin not
:13:27. > :13:30.running as fast as he has. Only 9.95 this year. So, you know, it's still
:13:31. > :13:33.going to be, I think it will be the same thing that we have seen in the
:13:34. > :13:37.past. He comes in, he gets better and better and better with each
:13:38. > :13:42.round. Still, there'll be some questions to the rounds. We will see
:13:43. > :13:46.some people close to him. See some run impressive times in other heats.
:13:47. > :13:49.When it gets to the final I challenge anyone to bet against him,
:13:50. > :13:53.no matter what they see in the rounds. In the year building up we
:13:54. > :13:57.thought perhaps De Grasse may challenge him. He has announced
:13:58. > :14:02.today he's not running, which is a great shame for athletics fans.
:14:03. > :14:05.Chijindu Ujah, who is Great Britain's greatest chance, said some
:14:06. > :14:09.interesting things about the race in Monaco, the fact that it was the
:14:10. > :14:16.Usain Bolt Show out there. Those athletes will have to deal with that
:14:17. > :14:21.here as well. It is important to know that CJ Ujah's comments were
:14:22. > :14:26.not disrespect to Bolt. He felt that the field was disrespected by the
:14:27. > :14:31.promoter in Monaco, making it such a show about Usain Bolt, when they are
:14:32. > :14:35.out there to run a race. I thought he had a great perspective on it and
:14:36. > :14:40.his coach said, hey, you are going to have to put with that in London.
:14:41. > :14:43.It is what it is. You are running in an area where the greatest of all
:14:44. > :14:46.time is out there and people come to see him.
:14:47. > :14:50.Focus on what's going on in your lane. Stick with that. Do the best
:14:51. > :14:53.you can. And it may just happen for you.
:14:54. > :14:57.Probably won't. And Ujah and the rest of the field
:14:58. > :15:00.as well have to get through the rounds. That is what a major
:15:01. > :15:06.championship is different to the diamond lead and we have seen Ujah
:15:07. > :15:09.have a fantastic... Here he is in Rome, with his best time in the
:15:10. > :15:13.season. He's coming on at the right time. He's been fairly consistent.
:15:14. > :15:20.He needs a better start. He absolutely should not focus on Bolt.
:15:21. > :15:25.He should focus on his own race, Andre De Grasse, an opportunity for
:15:26. > :15:29.people like CJ Ujah. He's run some championships before. This could be
:15:30. > :15:32.the opportunity for him to become a medallist and one of those
:15:33. > :15:36.contenders going forward. He's been training in the States. He's got a
:15:37. > :15:43.great coach, great training atmosphere. And he's in there. He's
:15:44. > :15:48.won three gold in Diamond Leagues this year here's the top ten for the
:15:49. > :15:51.year. Coleman has run sub ten seconds six
:15:52. > :16:03.times this year. He's had a long season. He's taken time off.
:16:04. > :16:12.You think Simbine could be the man to watch. Very consistent this year.
:16:13. > :16:16.But Justin Gatlin has beat him this year, but he has run consistently.
:16:17. > :16:22.It is going to be interesting. We haven't talked about Justin Gatlin.
:16:23. > :16:27.He has won 9.95 this year and he has major experience. It's really open
:16:28. > :16:31.and exciting. I know you're smiling because you think it is Bolt's to
:16:32. > :16:36.lose, but it does feel like an exciting 100m field in the sense
:16:37. > :16:39.that it is not necessarily a two horse race. Because there are some
:16:40. > :16:45.unknowns that we have not seen before. Bolt is coming in more
:16:46. > :16:50.vulnerable than he has been before. Some of the contenders may be
:16:51. > :16:56.thinking there is their last opportunity. We will see if there is
:16:57. > :17:01.a new king. This is where it will be run, of course, as they cross this
:17:02. > :17:04.line. But so much more goes on in the athletes' heads as they are
:17:05. > :17:07.warming up on the warm-up track, and that is where you find one of the
:17:08. > :17:12.newer faces of our team, Ore Oduba, with one of the more familiar faces.
:17:13. > :17:16.It is going to be a pleasure being part of the coverage for the next
:17:17. > :17:20.ten days, not only because we have a World Championships in London, but
:17:21. > :17:24.also because I am going to be spending quite a bit of my time with
:17:25. > :17:30.this fabulous gentleman to my left, Colin Jackson. A pleasure, served.
:17:31. > :17:33.So, it is the day before the championships get under way, but
:17:34. > :17:38.those moments before the race gets under way, it's a really difficult
:17:39. > :17:43.time for some, including yourself in the past? I didn't enjoy it too
:17:44. > :17:51.much. I really hated it. I will be honest. It is because you're going
:17:52. > :17:54.to be tested. You spend all the season running well, great
:17:55. > :17:57.preparation. But when you get into the major stadium, that is when the
:17:58. > :18:01.world's eyes are on you and you realise all the pressure is on.
:18:02. > :18:07.You're expected to win a medal. So this bit was the awful bit, knowing
:18:08. > :18:11.what was waiting. And in the early part of the championships, it's busy
:18:12. > :18:18.here. It is like Oxford Street on Christmas Eve. It is lovely and, at
:18:19. > :18:22.this moment, but there are so many athletes doing their individual
:18:23. > :18:26.warm-ups, trying to find a bit of place on this track so that they can
:18:27. > :18:29.get ready for their performance. It can be difficult and you always have
:18:30. > :18:35.to remember that this is just the early rounds. If I can just get one,
:18:36. > :18:39.I will be all right. This is the behind the scenes action that not
:18:40. > :18:46.many get to see. What goes on in these big marquees? You can see the
:18:47. > :18:49.letters. You can see the Irish one, and Saudi Arabia and South Africa.
:18:50. > :18:54.Does are where the massage tents are. So if you go inside, that is
:18:55. > :18:58.where you find the physios. We could have headed down for a massage!
:18:59. > :19:03.Unfortunately, we are going to hit the track now and have a race. If
:19:04. > :19:07.you want to put a bet on, he wins. Well, one man who knows how to boss
:19:08. > :19:17.a warm-up track through all these major championships where he has
:19:18. > :19:19.picked up so many golds is Mo Farah. We will be arguably talking about
:19:20. > :19:20.Britain's greatest ever athlete Chalkley. But another
:19:21. > :19:23.middle-distance runner who is also doubling up here is Laura Muir,
:19:24. > :19:26.running in the 1500 and 5000m. She is certainly in the mix for a medal.
:19:27. > :19:31.We will find out about her chances with Paula, who also caught up with
:19:32. > :19:37.her in Monaco earlier in the season. Laura Muir, stretches away and comes
:19:38. > :19:42.to win the gold medal for Great Britain! European indoor champion
:19:43. > :19:48.and a new championship record. A new British record. Laura, things are
:19:49. > :19:53.picking up and you are coming in off an amazing indoor season where you
:19:54. > :20:00.did that double. She's now got two gold medals! She's the champion
:20:01. > :20:03.again. Just contrast that, because I remember the Laura Muir that walked
:20:04. > :20:10.out so distraught from the world indoors in 2014, and how might you
:20:11. > :20:16.have mature than take on those huge leaps forward. You must feel in a
:20:17. > :20:19.good place going into London. At this stage in my career, I have a
:20:20. > :20:25.lot of championships underneath my belt and I think in 2013, I was in
:20:26. > :20:30.good physical shape but I had to catch up with the mental side of
:20:31. > :20:36.dealing with the pressure. Having gone through that has put me in good
:20:37. > :20:41.stead and I feel relaxed. Coming to the championships, you missed a bit
:20:42. > :20:44.of training with a foot injury, which are a lot of distance runners
:20:45. > :20:50.pick up at different points in their career. Is it sometimes a good thing
:20:51. > :20:56.to hold you back a bit? Yeah, I think it was not until I had been in
:20:57. > :21:01.the pool for a couple of weeks, it is not until something is taken away
:21:02. > :21:03.from you that you appreciate how much you love your sport. It can
:21:04. > :21:10.give you a fresh mindset going back into it. I had a take to matter in
:21:11. > :21:13.the middle of July, and it is going well. We know you are in great shape
:21:14. > :21:17.and can cope with the physical impact of doing the double, but
:21:18. > :21:21.mentally, is there a way you go about it? Do you think about one
:21:22. > :21:25.event and then move onto the second one? Yeah, for me it is round by
:21:26. > :21:29.round. I will not even think about the final until I get there. I
:21:30. > :21:40.concentrate on the hit and the semis. And the 1500m, is that the
:21:41. > :21:45.one you have the stronger chance in or are you thinking they are equal?
:21:46. > :21:50.I don't know. I'm inexperienced in the 5K, but I still think I can have
:21:51. > :21:56.good shot at it. And the competition is very strong just now. The girls
:21:57. > :22:06.are running fast. In the top three, you have Hassan and Kipyegon. And
:22:07. > :22:12.Laura Muir, with strong home support. That is a big advantage.
:22:13. > :22:18.Can you enjoy some of that? I hope so. The atmosphere in there is
:22:19. > :22:23.always brilliant. The crowds there have been the best. It is one of my
:22:24. > :22:28.career highlights. Laura Muir will be clock watching all the way down
:22:29. > :22:40.here. Laura Muir, the new British record. Kelly Holmes has been
:22:41. > :22:46.obliterated! I hate running against former athletes, because they always
:22:47. > :22:51.pull it out of the bag on the day. We have loved seeing Laura Muir over
:22:52. > :22:55.the last year or so really step up. She has been smashing personal bests
:22:56. > :23:00.and smashing long held records. But it's important to iterate that this
:23:01. > :23:04.is one of the races of the championship. The 1500m is loaded
:23:05. > :23:09.with talent. It's going to be very tough to fight for a medal. It will
:23:10. > :23:13.be exciting for us to watch. It's almost going to be one of the races
:23:14. > :23:21.of the championships. You got Faith Kipyegon, Hassan, Genzebe Dibaba,
:23:22. > :23:27.Laura Muir, Jenny Simpson. There are so many, I have probably missed
:23:28. > :23:31.somebody. That is how loaded it is. It is a completely different Laura
:23:32. > :23:34.Muir that we are seeing coming into the championships, but it is a
:23:35. > :23:38.different kettle of fish to what we were watching during the winter in
:23:39. > :23:43.Belgrade, where she was able to double up and make it look easy. It
:23:44. > :23:50.will not be easy here, and she will be focusing on one race at a time
:23:51. > :23:54.not making mistakes. She said not even focusing on one race, but the
:23:55. > :23:57.whole championship, not even thinking beyond each heat. So will
:23:58. > :24:05.it come down to who races the smartest? I think so, and who is
:24:06. > :24:10.absolutely right. Laura has had a few injury problems this year. She
:24:11. > :24:14.isn't coming into its 100%. She is feeling her way into it. She ran
:24:15. > :24:18.well here in the Anniversary Games, and she ran a personal best in the
:24:19. > :24:23.3000m in Monaco, but not as fast as she would have liked to have done.
:24:24. > :24:26.But hopefully, she has time to work into it through the heats. She will
:24:27. > :24:32.have learned from so many races. Last year in Rio, it is hard to say
:24:33. > :24:41.she did anything wrong. She raced for the gold. But she got into a bit
:24:42. > :24:47.of a contest with Kipyegon in the semifinals and in the final, she
:24:48. > :24:52.went hard against Genzebe Dibaba and attacked. It was just a bit too
:24:53. > :24:57.quick and cheap paper that in the closing stages. At the time, we
:24:58. > :25:00.talked about whether it was the right tactic and what else she could
:25:01. > :25:05.have done. Did she know how to raise any other way and with hindsight,
:25:06. > :25:09.would you still say that she did what she felt was the best way for
:25:10. > :25:14.her to get a medal? Yeah, and we will still see her race like that,
:25:15. > :25:17.because that is the way she raced in Paris when she went out after the
:25:18. > :25:22.disciplined of Rio, and really stand her authority on that by running her
:25:23. > :25:27.race and running hard. It was just a tiny bit too fast in that lap in
:25:28. > :25:31.Rio. But to judge that when you are caught up in the racing is really
:25:32. > :25:37.hard, so I would not criticise her for how she raced in Rio. That is
:25:38. > :25:45.how she runs. But I think she learned from that not to get into
:25:46. > :25:51.the contest. It is important that she races how she is naturally best,
:25:52. > :25:55.and that helps her confidence. That is a site we would love to see in
:25:56. > :26:00.London, Laura Muir crossing the line first, raising her hands with joy,
:26:01. > :26:04.because she responds to a home crowd. And if she does, she will
:26:05. > :26:07.join a very elite band of brothers and sisters who have topped the
:26:08. > :26:11.podium in World Championship since they began in 1983. So we decided to
:26:12. > :26:14.put them all together in one great big montage for you and believe me,
:26:15. > :26:33.it is a montage. Run the tape. Cram wins the World Championship!
:26:34. > :26:47.Steve Cram, world champion. Daley Thompson. He's clear! I always like
:26:48. > :26:57.to improve. That is a very big throw, about 76.5m. Fatima Whitbread
:26:58. > :27:02.is the world champion. Liz McColgan, a mother in the last few months, but
:27:03. > :27:08.this has been a display of confidence, courage and self-belief.
:27:09. > :27:16.For me, that was the greatest run in the history of British distance
:27:17. > :27:19.running. Akabusi has a go, and Akabusi has made it! Akabusi, gold
:27:20. > :27:46.for Britain. Jackson at the first hurdle. Jackson
:27:47. > :27:59.is going away! Jackson takes it, and I make that a new world record for
:28:00. > :28:09.Colin Jackson. Here is Jonathan in the first round. Oh, it's massive!
:28:10. > :28:15.My goodness, that is fantastic. 18.16m, a world record. Jonathan
:28:16. > :28:20.Edwards of Great Britain. It's a tough act to follow, but he's done
:28:21. > :28:23.it. There is going to be a big smile on that face any minute now.
:28:24. > :28:38.Jonathan Edwards has made history again. And Colin Jackson is the
:28:39. > :28:46.champion of the world! Jonathan Edwards, the world record-holder,
:28:47. > :28:52.with one of the longest jumps in history. Jonathan Edwards is the
:28:53. > :28:57.world champion. This is the moment that Paula Radcliffe has waited so
:28:58. > :28:59.long for. It's going to be a gold medal the Great Britain. Paula
:29:00. > :29:08.Radcliffe becomes the world champion at last. Christine Ohuruogu coming.
:29:09. > :29:12.Can it be a British athlete? Christine Ohuruogu is going to get
:29:13. > :29:20.there. Christine Ohuruogu wins the Gold! She is the world champion Matt
:29:21. > :29:31.a sensational story. You are the world champion, Christine Ohuruogu.
:29:32. > :29:36.Come on. Oh, yes! Oh, yes! That could be the biggest jump of
:29:37. > :29:41.Phillips Idowu's career. Great Britain has found another great
:29:42. > :29:49.star. The girl from the city of steel, hunting for gold, and she's
:29:50. > :30:12.done it. Here is a chance to seize the moment. Green wins, but what a
:30:13. > :30:24.performance from Mo Farah! This Mo Farah is going to get there! She
:30:25. > :30:31.might just make it! She never gives up. I feel like I'm in a dream. Mo
:30:32. > :30:35.Farah is sprinting from gold. He's running for greatness, Mo Farah is
:30:36. > :30:39.going to get there again! Farah wins it! Another incredible performance
:30:40. > :30:54.from Mo Farah. He's looking to extend his lead.
:30:55. > :31:00.That is a huge jump. Rutherford takes gold.
:31:01. > :31:06.Unbelievable! They have thrown everything at him! It is not hard
:31:07. > :31:13.enough. Mo Farah is best. He's the world champion again. And now she
:31:14. > :31:18.comes back to win the 800 metres, Jessica Ennis-Hill is back on top of
:31:19. > :31:25.the world. They've got nothing on him. Mo Farah
:31:26. > :31:33.streaking away. It's a fantastic... To be able to continue and be in the
:31:34. > :31:39.same category as is amazing. I told you it was a long montage.
:31:40. > :31:42.What a montage. A great piece of TV. I could watch it all day long. We
:31:43. > :31:46.hope to get many more special moments in the stadium. We have
:31:47. > :31:51.relocated here to our studio. You will see a lot of this over the next
:31:52. > :31:55.ten days and plenty of this our TV, where Michael Johnson will be doing
:31:56. > :31:59.his stuff. He's busy, hard at it at the moment. That looks good,
:32:00. > :32:06.Michael. Carry on! He's always doing his homework up here. We have
:32:07. > :32:11.invested in some new cushions. Some familiar faces on those as well. We
:32:12. > :32:16.might auction them for charity or throw them over the edge. It is rare
:32:17. > :32:20.you boys get inside. Enjoy your moment up here. We will chat to you
:32:21. > :32:24.about plenty of performances we have to look forward to, British and
:32:25. > :32:28.international. Inspired by some of those golden moments there. Phil
:32:29. > :32:30.Jones has been looking at the best of British prospects for a medal
:32:31. > :32:42.here in London. Picture perfect, nailed on British
:32:43. > :32:48.medals, look no further. It could be gold and gold again for marvellous
:32:49. > :32:56.Mo. We have heard of Laura Muir's double. Brave and bold strokes. Run
:32:57. > :33:00.under ten seconds and Chijindu Ujah, a Diamond League contender, could
:33:01. > :33:04.find himself in the 100 metres frame, chasing the retiring, but
:33:05. > :33:08.never shy Usain Bolt. He has been unbeaten, but you know, you cannot
:33:09. > :33:14.write these things before it has happened. I will go on the line and
:33:15. > :33:25.we've all got a chance. We start from zero.
:33:26. > :33:29.Katarina Johnson-Thompson's new best has inspired belief in a heptathlon
:33:30. > :33:32.placing. For Andrew Pozzi belief has never
:33:33. > :33:38.been the issue. Arriving at a major with his body in tact. If he's fit
:33:39. > :33:43.and firing, he'll be in the mix. I am looking forward to standing on
:33:44. > :33:46.the line and hearing a supportive crowd. That is something that will
:33:47. > :33:59.certainly give me a lot of energy. I am looking forward to that.
:34:00. > :34:12.Recent British form suggests her near missed days in outdoor majors
:34:13. > :34:15.could be over. Getting the baton round, avoiding
:34:16. > :34:22.disqualification, now that is a fine art. If GB's relay teams do it
:34:23. > :34:29.successful, all four can contend. In the women's relay that could mean
:34:30. > :34:34.more medal success for Asher-Smith, just months after breaking her foot.
:34:35. > :34:38.I am happy to be here. There was a point earlier in the year where I
:34:39. > :34:43.thought, oh, I have to learn to walk again, never mind qualifying for
:34:44. > :34:49.London 2017. Others plan to jump far, run long. Sophie Hitchon, eager
:34:50. > :34:52.to replicate the final flourish. The captain serves to inspire them all,
:34:53. > :34:57.with words and deeds. It is more special knows my fellow
:34:58. > :35:01.team-mates have voted me to be it. It is lovely being here and people
:35:02. > :35:07.coming up to me saying, I am really glad you are the team captain. It
:35:08. > :35:15.means so much to me. Creating a team which hopes to create a masterpiece
:35:16. > :35:23.on a London canvass. Will they create artistry in this
:35:24. > :35:28.stadium? I have to talk to you about the comments reported today in the
:35:29. > :35:34.press about your gripes with the British athletics over the last few
:35:35. > :35:38.years and decisions made, what is your problem? It is more about
:35:39. > :35:46.opinion. I was asked by a journalist that the opinion has been made by Ed
:35:47. > :35:51.That it's in a better place. He is the chairman of British athletics.
:35:52. > :35:55.If you look at his ten years we've had ?72 million from the lottery. If
:35:56. > :36:00.you look at the championships here, 50% of the men's field events don't
:36:01. > :36:05.have representedives in it. That is the long jump, the shot put and
:36:06. > :36:12.javelin. We have a great history in javelin. A lot is down to the lack
:36:13. > :36:17.of investment in coaching, coaches. I don't think they are coached well
:36:18. > :36:24.and we see the number of athletes moving abroad for better coaches.
:36:25. > :36:27.They would say for coaches are being trained and athletes funded, is
:36:28. > :36:31.their counter argument? You are right, athletes are being funded,
:36:32. > :36:36.but are the coaches funded? . I think the sad answer is, no they are
:36:37. > :36:39.not. It is a story which has been riding for years. Even when I was
:36:40. > :36:45.competing it with us the same problem. Yes, there's been more
:36:46. > :36:50.investment into the sport. Correct. However, you know, as well as I do,
:36:51. > :36:56.it is about firstly about the athletes. To kind of, I think as
:36:57. > :37:00.chairman it is not his responsibility. We know the problems
:37:01. > :37:04.are far and reaching. It starts from grass routeds. There is a big
:37:05. > :37:08.disconnect between grass roots and elite. Until the conversations are
:37:09. > :37:12.brought to how you can bring athletes from a young age through
:37:13. > :37:17.the sport, I think that's... That's the challenge. The infrastructure is
:37:18. > :37:21.volunteers. The whole sport from the grass roots up is based around
:37:22. > :37:25.thousands of coaches who volunteer time free of charge. When you get to
:37:26. > :37:31.the top level, you know, when does it change? When does it become... We
:37:32. > :37:36.want the time of the experts. It should be rewarded. It is a great
:37:37. > :37:40.discussion to be had. All I would say, from this point of view is, the
:37:41. > :37:43.chairman, the buck stops with the chairman, the Governing body is
:37:44. > :37:47.about the sport from grass roots to the elite end. There's no focus on
:37:48. > :37:51.this. We have got a great championships here and that is to be
:37:52. > :38:00.commended. Let's look at the sport top to bottom. One of the athletes
:38:01. > :38:02.we hope will shine is Katarina Johnson-Thompson has proved abroad
:38:03. > :38:09.to further her progress in the sport. She's had a brilliant year.
:38:10. > :38:13.She's furthered her PB. Interesting comments she made, she did she
:38:14. > :38:17.didn't realise everybody else in the world would turn up and make it a
:38:18. > :38:23.tougher competition of all time. The event is in great nick, isn't it? It
:38:24. > :38:30.is. Moving on, I think people will wonder where will the next talent
:38:31. > :38:36.come from. Kat has set PBs. She's in a transition, making that decision
:38:37. > :38:40.to train in France wasn't easy. But she's had to work on so many
:38:41. > :38:45.different areas of her technique, her strength and conditioning. She
:38:46. > :38:50.jumped indoors, once. But looking forward. I think it was really good
:38:51. > :38:54.for her. She needed that to bolster her confidence and to be
:38:55. > :38:59.injury-free. It is important that she takes a real strugglehold on the
:39:00. > :39:04.competition from the get-go. We know her long jumps, hurdles and 200 are
:39:05. > :39:08.the events. It is the throws where she's not been up there with the
:39:09. > :39:12.leaders and pointeds. I read comments saying there's no point me
:39:13. > :39:16.trying to think I can spend months and months on those and get an extra
:39:17. > :39:21.half a metre in the javelin. I will try and get better at the events I
:39:22. > :39:26.am good at. Should that be commended? She looks content. She
:39:27. > :39:31.looks happier. Maybe coming to terms with the event she's not a thrower,
:39:32. > :39:35.but it is part of her event. Experts next to me in multi-eventing. As a
:39:36. > :39:40.thrower it is awkward to say, I have to say. She has to cope with it. It
:39:41. > :39:44.is two of oh the seven events, very, very weak. How she deals with those.
:39:45. > :39:49.I want to see her throw caution to the wind and trust her abilities. I
:39:50. > :39:54.think she can do that when she's happy and content. In terms of
:39:55. > :40:01.throwing ability, Sophie Hitchon shows us with the Bronze Medal in
:40:02. > :40:03.the hammer, she's not just obviously achieved there, but enormous
:40:04. > :40:09.potential. Her coach said this is not all it's about. This is a
:40:10. > :40:13.four-year cycle and for her, the bronze but don't guys think this
:40:14. > :40:17.will be a given that she'll get a meed until this World Championships
:40:18. > :40:23.-- a medal in this World Championships. Do you agree? Sophie
:40:24. > :40:27.Hitchon is the only British junior who year on year has produced a
:40:28. > :40:34.personal best every year she's competed. She's based in California,
:40:35. > :40:38.doing really well. I would say that is dumbing it down a little bit.
:40:39. > :40:44.She's a competitor. This environment will suit her. She'll be, hopefully,
:40:45. > :40:48.fingers crossed, so long as she gets through the qualifying, she's in the
:40:49. > :40:53.mix. That was my favourite moment of the Rio Olympics. A British record
:40:54. > :41:04.for Sophie. She can do it when the pressure's on. On home soil, I am
:41:05. > :41:08.really optimistic. It she's the most outright favourite of all events
:41:09. > :41:12.across the 19 disciplines at the World Championships. That may be a
:41:13. > :41:19.given. Another possibly, a silver, but she will take a medal here.
:41:20. > :41:26.Sophie Hitchon, really optimistic. As would Holly Bradshaw. She set a
:41:27. > :41:31.new PB, looking fantastic. There's inconsistency because they are not
:41:32. > :41:36.achieving that in a Diamond League. Where will she feel her chances are?
:41:37. > :41:41.She's got to be confident. You hit the nail on the head about
:41:42. > :41:46.inconsistencies being the biggest problems for her. She knows how to
:41:47. > :41:52.jump high. She's up amongst it. The sport has not, that event has not
:41:53. > :41:58.moved en masse sievely. If she can get -- modded en masse sievely. If
:41:59. > :42:08.she doesn't put too much fres pressure on herself. She can nail
:42:09. > :42:13.that, she's in the mix. Steve, we have a very mouth-watering prospect
:42:14. > :42:18.- the German duo. Three Germans in fact. Vetter and Rohler. Thomas
:42:19. > :42:22.Rohler, the Olympic champion, through 93 metres. The second
:42:23. > :42:28.longest throw ever early earlier in the season. Only to see his
:42:29. > :42:37.team-mate throw 94 metres. They are heady distances. 10 metres beyond
:42:38. > :42:43.what the Olympic was won in this stadium. It is going to go possibly
:42:44. > :42:47.over 90 metres. It will be a real great competition. As many of the
:42:48. > :42:54.field events are. And the high jump. One lady out there above everybody
:42:55. > :42:57.else, Lesitskene, who had 17 months not competing because she's
:42:58. > :43:01.competing under a neutral flag here because of the systematic doping
:43:02. > :43:07.issues and the ban that happened to Russia. She's here as the leading
:43:08. > :43:13.jumper in the world. Could it go here in London? That's a big ask. A
:43:14. > :43:19.big ask. You know, she's one athlete that has been really consistent. If
:43:20. > :43:23.anyone will do it, it will be her. The crowd will get behind her as
:43:24. > :43:26.they have all the athletes. We are looking forward to so many brilliant
:43:27. > :43:31.contests. Thank you for the moment. I will see what Michael's homework
:43:32. > :43:35.has been up to. Your first opportunity to let yourself lose on
:43:36. > :43:43.the screen. The analysis screen, Michael. We start with Wayde van
:43:44. > :43:46.Niekerk. He took your record in Rio and has been improving the last year
:43:47. > :43:49.and he gets here attempting that double. You know all about the
:43:50. > :43:54.challenges that poses. Is he going to be able to handle that amount of
:43:55. > :43:58.races in a short period of time? That will be a very interesting
:43:59. > :44:02.prospect. He has an opportunity here to complete the 200, 400-metre
:44:03. > :44:06.double. Only three rounds for each race. It was four when I was
:44:07. > :44:13.running. It was harder when you did it. You said it. I didn't say it!
:44:14. > :44:17.He's got the 200-metre preliminaries and the rest day before he gets to
:44:18. > :44:23.the 400-metre final. Let's look at what he does here and what makes him
:44:24. > :44:27.so great. He had a fantastic season last year. He's off to a cracking
:44:28. > :44:34.start this year. PB in the 100 metres. Personal best in 200 metres.
:44:35. > :44:38.19.84. And a world best in the 300. How does he do it? He's got
:44:39. > :44:42.incredible speed. At this point of the race, he can run the first 200
:44:43. > :44:47.metres faster than all the rest of these guys. That is why he's able
:44:48. > :44:51.to. He's making up the stag on the guy on the outside of him. He knows
:44:52. > :44:54.he's got this weapon. What makes him special is he doesn't have the sort
:44:55. > :44:57.of strength we have seen in 400-metre runners in the past. He's
:44:58. > :45:02.not very tall. He doesn't have a long stride. What he has is the
:45:03. > :45:09.ability, right here, 300 metres to go in the race. Let's look at him as
:45:10. > :45:13.he comes down the home stretch. He can hold the speed much longer than
:45:14. > :45:18.anyone else. There's no change in what we saw in
:45:19. > :45:21.the first 200 metres as to what we see in the second 200 metres.
:45:22. > :45:26.Technically he's not that great, a little bit of rocking back and
:45:27. > :45:39.forth. . He has the ability to hold the speed longer than anyone else.
:45:40. > :45:46.He has the opportunity here, because the 200m is very weak. No one can
:45:47. > :45:51.run with him in the 400m, in my opinion. We have been talking about
:45:52. > :45:54.the end of Usain Bolt's legacy. A few Jamaican athletes have been in
:45:55. > :45:59.his shadow. If Elaine Thompson one of those who has not had the credit
:46:00. > :46:04.he deserves? I think Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce hasn't had the credit
:46:05. > :46:10.she deserves. But Elaine Thompson took the title from her last year.
:46:11. > :46:20.Let's look at her here. She is at 10.70 already, not far off her
:46:21. > :46:23.personal best. She is third from your right, and have a power and
:46:24. > :46:31.speed somewhat like Usain Bolt, able to pull away from the field.
:46:32. > :46:35.Confidence is what she has, and that shows in this race at the
:46:36. > :46:40.Anniversary Games. Not a great start here, but still able to win. So she
:46:41. > :46:46.is one of those unique athletes over 100m who can win it from anywhere,
:46:47. > :46:49.from behind, from front. She is not Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce with the
:46:50. > :46:55.bullets start out of the blocks. She usually gets a decent start, but not
:46:56. > :47:01.the greatest. But regardless, she has the power and speed. But her
:47:02. > :47:04.most unique weapon is her confidence. She can be patient when
:47:05. > :47:12.she is not winning halfway through and still catch up. I don't know if
:47:13. > :47:21.you have this anecdotally dashed back if you heard this anecdotally
:47:22. > :47:26.in her flat. She still ran 10.8, come on. We will see her in action
:47:27. > :47:31.over the next ten days on that track, which is empty at the moment.
:47:32. > :47:33.We saw Ore and Colin earlier out there on the warm-up track, telling
:47:34. > :47:38.us about the psychology and preparation that goes on. I think
:47:39. > :47:42.they are using their all access pass to very good use. This time
:47:43. > :47:47.tomorrow, we will not have this kind of access, so Colin and I are
:47:48. > :47:53.enjoying a moment on the track. This is the height of the hurdle that you
:47:54. > :47:58.did, and which the elite men are jumping. My belt isn't even that
:47:59. > :48:03.high. That is crazy high. Let's take a walk, Colin. This is obviously
:48:04. > :48:07.where the business will be happening. In London, we saw some
:48:08. > :48:15.records tumble. It is famously quite a fast track. Yes, we have already
:48:16. > :48:22.seen the women's 100m world record being one on this track. When
:48:23. > :48:25.athletes go on tracks and they prepare, they look at other
:48:26. > :48:30.athletes' performances and if they see them running fast, they get that
:48:31. > :48:33.extra boost where you are thinking, they are doing it, so I can. And
:48:34. > :48:36.they start to believe the track is fast. But I believe it is the
:48:37. > :48:43.athlete who is fast. That tends to be the way. Do you think we will see
:48:44. > :48:51.records tumbling? Is there anyone to keep an eye out for? We should
:48:52. > :48:54.certainly look at Kenny. She's going to have good competition. Because
:48:55. > :48:59.she knows this track so well, she will feel like she can improve her
:49:00. > :49:04.personal best. It is going to be exciting. I am visualising crossing
:49:05. > :49:11.this finishing line. It is never going to happen. You can't dip me.
:49:12. > :49:15.No. Well, down there on that track in just over 24 hours' time, Mo
:49:16. > :49:19.Farah will be warming up, getting ready to go for his fifth global
:49:20. > :49:25.double in the 5,000 and 10,000 metres. He has been getting himself
:49:26. > :49:28.into great shape, as he always does in France, preparing for the
:49:29. > :49:41.championships. Darren Campbell went to find out how he is feeling.
:49:42. > :49:52.Sir no, when you look back, does it feel crazy? It feels mad. It is hard
:49:53. > :49:55.to think that when you are so young, you don't imagine yourself at that
:49:56. > :50:02.level and to have won what I won has been incredible. In your early
:50:03. > :50:07.years, was it difficult to think that you could get up there with the
:50:08. > :50:12.best in the world? When I was a kid, I remember watching the Olympics,
:50:13. > :50:17.seeing the 10,000 metres was incredible, how it came down to the
:50:18. > :50:20.last two metres. From that point, I told myself, I want to become an
:50:21. > :50:32.Olympic champion. It was something I would dream of. I went to Daegu.
:50:33. > :50:35.That was my first senior World Championships and where I got my
:50:36. > :50:40.first silver medal in the 10,000 metres. I narrowly got beaten, but
:50:41. > :50:44.the better man won on the day. For me, it was all about experience and
:50:45. > :50:49.learning from that race and understanding, I ain't going to make
:50:50. > :50:57.that mistake again. World domination for Farah! Since then, it has been
:50:58. > :51:04.double, double, double. To be able to maintain that level is difficult,
:51:05. > :51:08.because when you are up there, you have a target on your back and every
:51:09. > :51:13.year, people are throwing things that you left, right and centre. You
:51:14. > :51:18.have is to just be smart in how you respond and what you do and knowing
:51:19. > :51:23.what counts. It's been hard over the years. They succumb to the
:51:24. > :51:30.inevitable, bow to his superiority! Mo Farah wins the gold! I'm excited
:51:31. > :51:34.to be competing in my last major championship on the track in London.
:51:35. > :51:40.It will be nice to finish and I hide. Why not do it where it all
:51:41. > :51:43.started in London, where I became a limping champion? That was what
:51:44. > :51:46.changed me as an athlete. When you come back years later to the World
:51:47. > :51:54.Championships, you are like, I am going to end it at that track. Mo
:51:55. > :51:57.Farah, who always lights up the crowds wherever he goes and races
:51:58. > :52:01.with such huge enthusiasm for the sport. He's been an incredible
:52:02. > :52:07.ambassador. Steve Cram has joined Michael here on the server. I have a
:52:08. > :52:14.cushion here for you, Steve. And it is in colour. You know how
:52:15. > :52:17.passionate he is about the sport and how he has managed to maintain his
:52:18. > :52:22.fitness and get to these championships in shape to win for so
:52:23. > :52:27.many years, which in itself is a phenomenon. It is. That is where he
:52:28. > :52:31.has a lot of parallels with Bolt. The difference between him and Bolt
:52:32. > :52:37.is that he has other events where he has been beaten, like indoors and
:52:38. > :52:41.the odd track race. But whenever you come to major championships, since
:52:42. > :52:47.2011 he has been unbeatable, meaning no one has found a way to beat him
:52:48. > :52:54.with the tactics he can employ. He can employ those tactics because he
:52:55. > :53:03.gets himself right for the games. He can run a sub one half marathon.
:53:04. > :53:11.Like Bolt, he's not quite as good as he was, but the opposition isn't as
:53:12. > :53:15.good as either. So he comes, again, with us expecting him to win. But
:53:16. > :53:20.there is with a butt. I don't want to go into the Butts, because we
:53:21. > :53:27.want to be positive about Mo, but it could be hard for him. But my big
:53:28. > :53:35.but is that he will win! But maybe not as comfortably as before? I
:53:36. > :53:39.think he will try to control it in exactly the same way. Mo has never
:53:40. > :53:49.won by more than six tenths of a second. That is not much in 10,000
:53:50. > :53:55.metres. So he never gives us much to enjoy in the last 200m. So it will
:53:56. > :54:01.be that tight again, I'm sure. Each of the last three major 10,000
:54:02. > :54:05.races, he has won slightly slower in the last lap. So if you are the
:54:06. > :54:14.opposition, there are things to look at to think about. But if I am
:54:15. > :54:22.thinking who could run a 2.25 last 1000m, could one of them? I doubt
:54:23. > :54:26.it. They have failed to do that for the last ten years or so. But what
:54:27. > :54:30.has been impressive about him is the parallel with Bolt, how he has kept
:54:31. > :54:36.himself in incredible peak physical condition. He seems to have skated
:54:37. > :54:39.around injuries. And that is one of the things we haven't talked about
:54:40. > :54:44.much. There are some people who are not here who are great champions. If
:54:45. > :54:49.you look at people like Mo Farah and Usain Bolt, not only do they show up
:54:50. > :54:54.and produce at the right time when it counts, but they are able to keep
:54:55. > :54:58.their bodies together. Mo has a fantastic team around him of experts
:54:59. > :55:04.that help him keep himself healthy. We have seen how committed he is to
:55:05. > :55:09.his craft. It is an incredible sacrifice. That is what allows an
:55:10. > :55:14.athlete like Mo to get to these championships healthy. He puts in a
:55:15. > :55:16.lot of mileage and a tonne of work, which takes its toll. But he gets
:55:17. > :55:22.here healthy because of the commitment. Here is an interesting
:55:23. > :55:28.one. That commitment involves rest. The thing about Bolt and Mo Farah,
:55:29. > :55:31.people might be surprised at how at times of the year, how low-level
:55:32. > :55:37.their training is to enable them to build up to the major championships
:55:38. > :55:44.again. We know that with Mo. That is a discipline in itself. That is a
:55:45. > :55:47.confidence thing. I can take time to rest and bring my training down to a
:55:48. > :55:52.level and then come back. If people go at it hard all the time, you will
:55:53. > :55:56.get a few years, but you will fall apart at some point. Those two have
:55:57. > :56:00.kept their longevity partly by resting as well. And to manage the
:56:01. > :56:06.other things, the expectations that come from being the champions that
:56:07. > :56:10.they are. You saw him today at the track, tweeting and enjoying his
:56:11. > :56:13.sport and savouring this moment. The first of those moments will be
:56:14. > :56:23.tomorrow night at 9.20, and we will cover every step. I hope Steve will
:56:24. > :56:29.begin us another iconic line. I just hope Brendan doesn't cry. I tried to
:56:30. > :56:33.get him to cry in that documentary. Some big news came out of Russia
:56:34. > :56:37.today. It is the first time we have seen anything of this kind of tone
:56:38. > :56:42.coming from the rat athletics Federation, an apology from the
:56:43. > :56:52.president of the Federation -- from the Russian athletics Federation.
:56:53. > :57:00.That is a positive statement, Michael. It is a positive sign. It
:57:01. > :57:05.is not quite an admission which is what we have been looking for. But
:57:06. > :57:10.it is the first time they have apologised and even taken any sort
:57:11. > :57:18.of responsibility. And that is a positive sign. But this fight is
:57:19. > :57:21.going to be long and tough and we as athletics fans and the Federation
:57:22. > :57:27.have to know that it is going to be a long fight and it is not going to
:57:28. > :57:31.happen at once. It is just another reminder of how important these
:57:32. > :57:35.championships are to restore confidence. Absolutely. We want it
:57:36. > :57:40.to be a positive championships. London was fabulous. We know about
:57:41. > :57:44.all the issues still hanging, but we can fight that as best we can. Let's
:57:45. > :57:49.hope we can focus on the athletics here, because it will be great. I
:57:50. > :57:52.hope you can have had your appetite whetted. I can't wait for things to
:57:53. > :57:58.start. Join us tomorrow at six o'clock on BBC Two at the opening
:57:59. > :58:02.ceremony which will be on BBC One. At ten p:m., we switch back to BBC
:58:03. > :58:06.Two. All the coverage available on the BBC Sport website and the
:58:07. > :58:10.listing supplements. It is certainly more than just Bolt and Mo Farah,
:58:11. > :58:20.but they are a huge part of what will be an incredible ten days.
:58:21. > :58:21.# We've come a long, long way together.
:58:22. > :58:32.# Through the hard times and the good.
:58:33. > :58:38.# I have to celebrate you, baby. # I have to praise you like I
:58:39. > :58:42.sheared. -- should.
:58:43. > :58:48.# We've come a long, long way together.
:58:49. > :58:58.# Through the hard times and the good.
:58:59. > :59:00.# I have to celebrate you, baby. # I have to praise you like I
:59:01. > :59:10.should. Your baby has been loved
:59:11. > :59:14.by me very much. You have a serious problem
:59:15. > :59:18.with identification.
