:39:32. > :39:37.to the fore and one of the big names, the defending champion,
:39:37. > :39:41.Montsho, is going in the final show. It will be interesting to see the

:40:38. > :40:42.COMMENTATOR: There is Amantle Montsho, final heat of the women's

:42:31. > :42:39.was going to say it is a marathon, not a sprint but that is absolutely

:42:49. > :43:19.
:43:19. > :43:25.women's 400m. Amantle Montsho blocks for a moment there and
:43:25. > :43:30.Jennifer Carey with Herbert and easy style of running that Montsho has
:43:30. > :43:37.come and try to pick up the pace and she has got Patricia Hall, perhaps
:43:37. > :43:41.her nearest challenger, to use as a market in this heat but she does
:43:41. > :43:46.now. Montsho bouncing happily down the back straight. She will come
:43:46. > :43:55.round in the lead, four to go through and Montsho is looking
:43:55. > :44:00.comfortable through the first 300 metres. Regina George of Nigeria on
:44:00. > :44:03.the inside has put up a bit of a spurt. She doesn't necessarily looks
:44:03. > :44:12.comfortable but she will take second. Montsho will take the
:44:12. > :44:17.victory and the time... It is slower but Patricia Hall coming through,
:44:17. > :44:25.but that was a stroll for Montsho, not more than that, she did what she
:44:25. > :44:30.had to do. That was very comfortable. The first 200 metres,
:44:30. > :44:35.she did not extend very much, going through the motions is the best way
:44:35. > :44:40.to describe this. She is in such good shape coming into the
:44:40. > :44:43.championships. In the past, she has done the best running in the Diamond
:44:44. > :44:50.League and not prepared for the champs. She will be hard to beat
:44:50. > :44:56.though. I think Montsho and Ohuruogu are the two to watch. They are the
:44:56. > :45:04.best of the crop and this has showed you why. She just eased it away
:45:04. > :45:10.again, very comfortable, 50.7, easy as you like. Good performance from
:45:10. > :45:13.Regina George. Patricia Hall going through as well. Standout

:47:30. > :47:35.about that with Paula Radcliffe but we have swapped a Radcliffe for a
:47:35. > :47:39.Jackson. Speaking about Montsho, what is so fascinating about the
:47:39. > :47:42.400m, when somebody is so supreme, how they can look so easy when all
:47:42. > :47:47.around them are looking like they are flailing and putting everything
:47:47. > :47:52.into it and yet she is going past them. It seems to defy the laws of
:47:52. > :47:57.physics, the way she runs with so much ease. That is the training,
:47:57. > :48:01.that is the calibre of this athlete. She is incredible. And the guys in
:48:01. > :48:08.commentary were saying, this is just a demonstration... That was like a
:48:08. > :48:14.jog, she was at that list all the way round. In control -- she was
:48:14. > :48:18.effortless, all the way round. And even stride all the way round so
:48:18. > :48:23.this was heard doing the job. She is here to defend her title and she
:48:23. > :48:27.made it look easy. she will not repeat what happened last year, in
:48:27. > :48:36.other words she will not let a big championship slip out of her grasp,
:48:36. > :48:39.that is the message you get. She has put some fast times down on the
:48:39. > :48:42.Diamond League and you hope that this time round she has learned the
:48:42. > :48:46.mistakes and it was genuinely a mistake, the way she approached the
:48:46. > :48:51.final. I do not think she will do that again this year. we hope she
:48:51. > :48:55.has learned that we would hope that she will be neck and neck until the
:48:55. > :48:58.very end with Christine because it looks like the two strongest
:48:58. > :49:03.contenders, the protagonists if you like. Moving on to further afield
:49:03. > :49:12.and further distances with Paula, she will be discussing Mo Farah, but
:49:12. > :49:22.we have been looking into the specific areas where Mo Farah must
:49:22. > :49:36.
:49:36. > :49:44.settle, conserve energy and make sure that he is ready to cover any

:49:54. > :49:55.
:49:55. > :50:01.life but everybody else is scared of pace over the final lap so far this
:50:01. > :50:04.year. Nobody has shown they can beat him for closing speed so they need
:50:04. > :50:10.to think about doing something before them to run the finish out of
:50:10. > :50:14.him. Does he have a strength? So far this
:50:14. > :50:18.year, he has not been tested in clearance -wise. I am sure he is
:50:18. > :50:24.strong and ready and will be a very tough man to be -- tested
:50:24. > :50:30.endurance-wise. There he is, the man they all want to beat and it begs
:50:30. > :50:34.the question, Paula, and there is always this inference, that they
:50:34. > :50:38.will gang up and find a way to beat him and that way always seems to be
:50:38. > :50:42.that they will have to race quick. If you want to beat Mo, make it as
:50:42. > :50:47.quick as possible which will nullify his kick towards the end. Would
:50:47. > :50:52.there be that kind of plan? Would they get together? They could be
:50:52. > :50:55.that kind of plan. The Kenyans have spoken earlier at the training
:50:55. > :51:00.camp, speaking about their intention to run as a team and they thought
:51:00. > :51:04.they could beat Mo if they do that. We must not forget that saying it
:51:04. > :51:10.and doing it is a different thing. You have to go out and commit and
:51:10. > :51:13.sacrifice your race to do it almost and that is a hard race to do. Mo is
:51:13. > :51:17.the only British guy so you would think he is going out alone but he
:51:17. > :51:21.is going out with his team-mates, including Galen Rupp, he is well

:51:25. > :51:30.he is in the shape of his life. It will not be easy, he will have to
:51:30. > :51:35.keep his eyes and ears open, cover everything, be alert and big on
:51:35. > :51:39.100%. If he is slightly off, that will not do, he has to be right
:51:39. > :51:44.there. He has done lots of work on speed and taken the British record
:51:44. > :51:52.from Steve Cram, we have said it already a few times! The fact he has
:51:52. > :51:57.not run a 10K competitively this year, are you worried about that?
:51:57. > :52:01.People run a fast time, and people think he has just worked on speed. I
:52:01. > :52:04.think Monaco came from strength. He has got the speed and he works on
:52:04. > :52:09.the training, doing sprint drills and things like that with Alberto
:52:09. > :52:14.and Galen Rupp at his endurance is there and it is that, holding it all
:52:14. > :52:18.together that enabled that 3.28 so hopefully he will be fine. If he
:52:18. > :52:23.does come through here in the way he would like the body he has prepared
:52:23. > :52:27.to do, to win two medals. This could put him in completely different
:52:27. > :52:33.stratosphere in terms of global icons of the sport. Absolutely and
:52:33. > :52:37.as a British man, elevating his status even further and you know
:52:37. > :52:42.what? You have to understand with him, it has only been his
:52:42. > :52:46.progression in the last four years where he has got to this real iconic

:52:51. > :52:55.if you work hard enough, do the right things, you can get there.
:52:55. > :53:01.don't underestimate it, one is great, two is massive and so all he
:53:01. > :53:05.is focusing on... One at a time? He never really fully commits until he
:53:05. > :53:11.finds out how he will be running and so he never says he will definitely
:53:11. > :53:15.do two but we expect him to run in the 5K. Guess, but this is the race
:53:15. > :53:22.he has come for. He is already thinking about the next race and if
:53:22. > :53:26.he does that he may well lose it. There he is, he has his shades on,
:53:26. > :53:36.out on the track. A nice breeze blowing through now, not as hot as
:53:36. > :53:46.
:53:46. > :53:52.earlier in the afternoon, conditions the nice breeze down here. Just
:53:53. > :53:59.watching Mo going out there, he has a lot of stuff on his back! It looks
:53:59. > :54:06.a heavy bag! There are plenty of British bands spread all around the
:54:06. > :54:15.stadium. Those two look like they are having a good time. And their
:54:15. > :54:19.hero, I am sure he is one of their heroes, will be out very shortly.
:54:19. > :54:24.They have just been given the chance to go and get their spikes on and
:54:24. > :54:28.these are nervous moments for all of us, I guess, but British fans are
:54:28. > :54:33.very well represented. As many people as we have seen in this
:54:33. > :54:43.stadium this is. It is still not a lot. But there is still an
:54:43. > :54:43.
:54:43. > :54:53.atmosphere. Here is the. Missed. Quite a few more than ran in the
:54:53. > :54:58.
:54:58. > :55:08.Olympic 10,000m final. Ritzenhein is one of Mo Farah's training partners.
:55:08. > :55:23.
:55:23. > :55:30.Levins is also a training partner, not running for Ethiopian. A lot of
:55:30. > :55:35.Americans are really not quite sure whether hailing Rob can produce the
:55:35. > :55:39.sort of performance he did at the Olympics last year. -- whether Galen
:55:39. > :55:49.Rupp can produce the sort of performance he did at the Olympics
:55:49. > :55:53.
:55:53. > :56:03.last year. Mahbood is not starting. And Al Al-Outaibi not starting.
:56:03. > :56:08.
:56:08. > :56:15.Merga is formally the world cross-country champion. So that is
:56:15. > :56:23.the full list. Three or four nonstarters. What a good vantage
:56:24. > :56:28.point. Not even short you need that lens. -- not even sure. We have all
:56:28. > :56:34.been talking about the hammock Mack winning the gold medal and the press
:56:34. > :56:38.conference... And Neil Black, the performance director of British
:56:38. > :56:42.athletics said we have to accept he is the favourite but of course
:56:42. > :56:50.nobody hands out gold medals. He has got to come here and turn all of
:56:50. > :56:53.that early and form into a win. And of course, he was beaten in the
:56:53. > :57:02.World Championships a couple of years ago. He was beaten earlier
:57:02. > :57:08.this year. He is certainly not in principle. He is outstanding. He is
:57:08. > :57:14.better than he has ever been. Faster than he has ever been. Fitter than
:57:14. > :57:20.he has ever been. More determined than he has ever been. When British
:57:20. > :57:27.athletes run these days, the fans do follow them. There are not quite as
:57:27. > :57:31.many as he got when he ran in London last year, all the other week. The
:57:31. > :57:38.athletes are coming out onto the track, getting ready, lining up.
:57:38. > :57:42.They are all anxious to go. They are waiting around. These athletes know
:57:42. > :57:50.each other extremely well. Some of them train together. They often
:57:50. > :58:00.compete together all around the world. The first two from last year
:58:00. > :58:11.
:58:11. > :58:16.'s Olympic Games, Mo Farah and Galen everyone has their eyes on, not just
:58:16. > :58:22.us that the athletes themselves. All he has got to do now is concentrate
:58:22. > :58:29.on his own race. Forget about hanging a medal around his neck. It
:58:29. > :58:39.is 25 laps. It is warm. He is cooling himself down, which is
:58:39. > :58:40.
:58:40. > :58:46.extremely sensible. This should be great. Well, Mo has been training in
:58:46. > :58:53.San Moritz. He made a couple of breaks. He came down to run in
:58:53. > :58:57.Monaco. He made a new British record. He shocked the world with
:58:57. > :59:03.that performance. I think he even surprised himself a little. He went
:59:03. > :59:11.back up to San Moritz, came back down for London. Had a big training
:59:11. > :59:18.week that week. No records in prospect for him. It was a case of
:59:18. > :59:22.7.36 and that was all he needed on the day. I watched him do a warm
:59:22. > :59:29.down session which many would be happy to do as a training session
:59:29. > :59:36.after that. Those races were part of the plan budding towards these
:59:36. > :59:43.championships. This Kenyan team, it is really hard to put your finger on
:59:43. > :59:53.how they are going to be. They have a great personal best but very
:59:53. > :59:55.
:59:55. > :00:00.little Championship experience. Muchiri might be the biggest threat.
:00:00. > :00:05.What about Jeilan? Sorry, I caught you at an inopportune moment there!
:00:05. > :00:11.He is a very popular boy in Moscow. Yes, Jeilan, the defending champion.
:00:11. > :00:21.He shocked Mo when Mo seemed to have got away, seemed to be heading
:00:21. > :00:23.
:00:23. > :00:29.towards his first global gold medal and Jeilan ran him down. Kuma. And
:00:29. > :00:39.the Ethiopians almost had not a trial as such, but Cooper and
:00:39. > :00:49.Deborah Meskill and Marco, they went to Finland -- and Merga, they went
:00:49. > :00:53.
:00:53. > :01:03.to Finland. Mo is trying to feed of the British support here in Moscow.
:01:03. > :01:34.
:01:34. > :01:44.-- off the British support. MIDI in He has managed to translate some of
:01:44. > :01:48.
:01:48. > :01:55.their early form. I think they are cheering him. And there he is, Imane
:01:55. > :02:02.Merga. He used to be the man to beat. Now the look is a little off
:02:02. > :02:08.the pace. His personal best goes back a little before the other
:02:08. > :02:13.figure. But all the introductions have been made. All of the
:02:13. > :02:23.preparation is behind them. Ahead, 25 laps of the World Championship
:02:23. > :02:33.
:02:33. > :02:39.it was all about the support of the home crowd and the quest for Olympic
:02:39. > :02:46.gold. This is about some unfinished business, payback for a gold medal
:02:46. > :02:55.that slipped away in 2011. An intriguing race. We have already
:02:55. > :02:59.been talking so many times already today about what could and might
:02:59. > :03:05.happen and how did they beat Mo Farah? Now they have to do something
:03:06. > :03:13.about it. They have got to give a really good 10,000m Championship
:03:13. > :03:20.final but we can remember. This is the technique that Mo uses these
:03:21. > :03:25.days. The gun goes, Mo Farah goes to the back of the field, relaxes, gets
:03:25. > :03:31.into the rhythm. The Africans, the canyons in particular, have been
:03:31. > :03:37.using this technique for a long time. We have observed it. The lead
:03:37. > :03:41.at jogging around the first lap, pretty quick. Mo is just letting the
:03:41. > :03:49.nerves settle, just getting into his running, taking his time. He does
:03:49. > :03:52.not have too you at all yet. He is relaxing into the race. He is on top
:03:53. > :03:57.of his nerves. He was desperately unhappy when he lost the World
:03:57. > :04:02.Championships in 2011. Here today he wants to atone for that at this is a
:04:02. > :04:12.raise in itself. There are some very good athletes here and they all know
:04:12. > :04:23.
:04:23. > :04:28.there is one man to beat. And guess of the Diamond League races. It is a
:04:28. > :04:38.very big field so from front to act covers about 25 metres, I would say,
:04:38. > :04:48.
:04:48. > :04:57.or there about. -- from front to the way, that would be a fairly
:04:57. > :05:00.comfortable 27.30. But over the years, we have Zoe in some great
:05:01. > :05:10.10,000m races in championships. -- we have seen. We have talked about
:05:10. > :05:15.the Ethiopians and you remember when Selassie and Bekele rant and they
:05:15. > :05:25.went lap after lap after lap. If they did that, yes, it would put Mo
:05:25. > :05:25.
:05:25. > :05:33.Farah under pressure, but they are not Selassie and -- they are not
:05:33. > :05:39.Gebrselassie and Bekele at their best. But tonight, who knows. Jeilan
:05:39. > :05:47.is the world champion. He is not running as well as he has been. Mo
:05:47. > :05:51.Farah is just beginning of ones and twos at the back. Just making his
:05:51. > :06:01.move. This is the first time in 20 years when two of the greats, Haile
:06:01. > :06:02.
:06:02. > :06:06.Gebrselassie, and acutely, have not contested this 10,000m. -- Bekele.
:06:06. > :06:10.Tonight there are four athletes in the race from Ethiopia, including
:06:10. > :06:15.the champion, but we have one athlete from Great Britain and he is
:06:15. > :06:23.working his way through the field. None of the all-time greats at the
:06:23. > :06:28.moment are in the field but there is Mo Farah. Can he win this 10,000m
:06:28. > :06:33.title to go with his Olympic gold medal for the 10,000m? This will be
:06:33. > :06:41.a competitive race. Mo looks like he is well into his running, relaxed,
:06:41. > :06:47.untouchable. They are linked steadily but not exceptionally fast.
:06:47. > :06:57.We are ready. It is going to be a good race. The canyons are doing a
:06:57. > :07:03.
:07:03. > :07:11.little bit. They are keeping it steady. 4.274 four laps. Look where
:07:11. > :07:14.the Ethiopians are. Galen Rupp moving up in the red. Galen Rupp
:07:14. > :07:20.just wanting to get a little further up the field, he may be feeling that
:07:20. > :07:29.there is a bit of push going on as Tanui of Kenya picks things up a
:07:30. > :07:34.bit. Mo Farah is still content to be three from the back. I was chatting
:07:34. > :07:37.yesterday to Alberto Salazar and I was talking about this team thing
:07:37. > :07:43.that everybody has been talking about and he said there is only one
:07:43. > :07:48.team out there, Mo, Galen Rupp, they are a team, they train together. The
:07:48. > :07:54.Ethiopians don't. Two or three of them don't even like each other, the
:07:54. > :08:00.Kenyans can come together. There is a team out there that they will not
:08:00. > :08:06.be team tactics but there is a team. We are not seeing any real team
:08:06. > :08:11.tactics here. The time for 2,000m, that is pretty easy, that is an
:08:11. > :08:17.average pace which is about 28 minute pace so nothing exceptional
:08:17. > :08:21.here. Mo will not be disappointed with this, the tactics are clearly
:08:21. > :08:26.that they are running steady but not exceptionally quick and as we have
:08:26. > :08:35.seen in the history of this event, we have seen some brutal races, Mo
:08:35. > :08:38.going across for a sponge and Mo is the opportunity to nip across for a
:08:38. > :08:41.sponge to start letting them know he is there. That is one thing he would
:08:42. > :08:46.do. You let them know you are amongst them. Move your way to the
:08:46. > :08:52.front, but necessarily go to the front but the amongst them so they
:08:52. > :09:02.start thinking that he is there. The Eritrea and athlete, Goitom Kifle A,
:09:02. > :09:06.
:09:06. > :09:12.he is following Mo Farah -- every -- every . Mo Farah hits the front, 19
:09:12. > :09:17.laps to go and I will tell you, this is not him making a long run for
:09:17. > :09:21.home, this is Mo saying that he is the Olympic champion, and if you
:09:21. > :09:25.want to go faster than me, you have to go round me and passed me, and
:09:25. > :09:34.that is a clever way of encouraging the pace to move up a little. Really
:09:34. > :09:41.clever. A great move by Mo, grabbing a sponge and working his way round.
:09:41. > :09:45.A bit of a stretch of the legs. Show your face, show the fact you are
:09:45. > :09:48.there, he had no intention, he started to slow it down as soon as
:09:48. > :09:55.he got to the front and then the Ethiopians are thinking they are not
:09:55. > :09:59.having that, Imane Merga and Abera Kuma having a chat and Imane Merga
:09:59. > :10:03.saying that if he wants to start the race, let's started, we have waited
:10:03. > :10:11.a little while and for the first time, we have got a bit of pace on.
:10:11. > :10:14.Imane Merga and Abera Kuma and Tanui working together. They will not
:10:15. > :10:18.stress too much about this because it is not a big push, they will just
:10:18. > :10:27.wait and see if they can keep this pace on and if they do, they will
:10:27. > :10:37.start to work their way back. is a bit serious, a big lap there. I
:10:37. > :10:38.
:10:38. > :10:42.remember watching Imane Merga racing in Addis Ababa, and on a road race
:10:42. > :10:45.and it was staggering how well he ran, that was a few years ago and I
:10:45. > :10:49.have never seen anybody run as quickly by Hill especially with
:10:49. > :10:53.altitude. He has been a bit off since then but he has got good
:10:53. > :10:59.talent, he is a strong man, he likes running hard and working hard and he
:10:59. > :11:02.does very hard and I tell you what, he is a good athlete he has run well
:11:02. > :11:08.already this season, in the world cross-country, he finished second
:11:08. > :11:13.there and he is starting to make this move. I will be interested to
:11:13. > :11:17.see, this looks faster. 17 laps to go in the men's 10,000 metres and
:11:17. > :11:25.the pace is beginning to lift. 64 seconds for the last lap, that is
:11:25. > :11:30.lifting it. It is a bit quicker but still the sort of place that is
:11:30. > :11:35.fairly comfortable and when thing that Alberto said to me, he said
:11:35. > :11:39.what would happen if somebody went off really hard and he said Galen
:11:39. > :11:44.Rupp and Mo will run six or seven seconds behind and work their way
:11:44. > :11:48.back but this isn't really hard, this is a comfortable place, it was
:11:48. > :11:53.really eight case of what if somebody decided to make this a
:11:53. > :11:57.26.50 race right from the beginning and they are so confident this lot,
:11:57. > :12:02.they can run the second half of the race, they will not be too stressed
:12:02. > :12:07.about letting things go a little bit and just hanging off and he said we
:12:07. > :12:10.can work together and these guys will chat with each other, and if
:12:10. > :12:14.they are yet to a point where they need to work to get to that, they
:12:14. > :12:24.can do it but they are stretched out which is good to see, the turn at
:12:24. > :12:26.
:12:26. > :12:32.the front from Kenneth Kiprop Kipkemoi, and then behind them, the
:12:32. > :12:38.leading group. Mo encourage them to go further, he is running with his
:12:38. > :12:41.team-mates, Galen Rupp just ahead of him and the three guys there on
:12:41. > :12:46.screen run together in Oregon on an almost daily basis so they have been
:12:46. > :12:54.in this position several times. If there is a team race, like you said
:12:54. > :13:00.earlier, it is those three, the American -based Briton, Mo Farah,
:13:00. > :13:08.Galen Rupp and their training partner. The double champion, Mo
:13:08. > :13:13.Farah, and I love saying that! Dathan Ritzenhein behind him and the
:13:13. > :13:16.pace continues to be steady. There is no real serious tactics emerging
:13:16. > :13:21.but he would not expect it yet, there are 15 laps to go, the second
:13:21. > :13:24.half of the 10,000 metres especially in warm conditions like this make it
:13:24. > :13:30.a brutal distance race. The one message that went out from the
:13:30. > :13:36.athletes particularly the Ethiopians when they left for the track is run
:13:36. > :13:40.a hard race today, and tyre Mo Farah out for the 5000 metres. There was a
:13:40. > :13:50.school of thought that yes, the Kenyans thought the best chance was
:13:50. > :13:55.
:13:55. > :13:59.in the 5000 metres when you have got the likes of Edwin Soi, and other
:13:59. > :14:05.runners and Koech and if the Kenyans can make it tough in the 10,000, I
:14:05. > :14:12.am not sure they are out to do that but whatever, you carry some of it
:14:12. > :14:17.with you next week, but let's bear in mind, Galen Rupp and Mo Farah
:14:17. > :14:23.doubling up, assuming everything goes OK, none of the big names have
:14:23. > :14:27.doing that so he will take on the best here and then take on the best
:14:27. > :14:33.in the 5000 so maybe people will think that but it is easier said
:14:33. > :14:37.than done. Team managers love the idea that you can say, go on, guys,
:14:37. > :14:41.make it work, but it doesn't work like that it really doesn't win you
:14:41. > :14:46.get in the race. You have to get out there, run how you are feeling and
:14:46. > :14:54.it is easy for somebody to sit in the stands and say, "throw in a 61"
:14:54. > :14:59.but it is not that way that it works. There is safety in numbers
:14:59. > :15:04.and you need to be a brave and ambitious and confident athlete to
:15:04. > :15:08.step outside of that and drift away from the pack but Mo Farah is the
:15:08. > :15:13.only athlete in this field tonight who has got real supreme confidence
:15:13. > :15:17.and you are looking at him relaxing am running steadily, he is in the
:15:18. > :15:22.middle of a purple patch, he is in the best form of his career but
:15:22. > :15:27.tonight, we will fully expect him to win this race but it is unfair to
:15:27. > :15:32.say he will win it without a struggle, it is 10,000 metres, 25
:15:32. > :15:36.laps of the track, you cannot win that without hurting. You cannot win
:15:36. > :15:43.that without exerting some influence on the track at Mo Farah is moving
:15:44. > :15:50.into a nice position here, they are coming up to the halfway point.
:15:50. > :15:54.13.16 and looking about, and then people's plans will emerge. People
:15:54. > :15:58.start to say, get to the halfway point, coaches will say that and
:15:58. > :16:03.then make a move will stop so we will see them move beyond this
:16:04. > :16:08.point, there is Mo, I have honestly never seen him look so relaxed in a
:16:08. > :16:16.big race. To me, this is more relaxed than he was in the Olympic
:16:16. > :16:19.Games and let's face it, we thought he was supreme last year. 13.49 for
:16:19. > :16:27.5000 metres and I would suggest it will get quicker in the second half
:16:27. > :16:33.of this race. That is a job for Mo Farah. 13.49 is not hurting any of
:16:33. > :16:36.the good guys. I think that is about what you would have expected in
:16:37. > :16:43.these sorts of races. The question for me is the second half of the
:16:43. > :16:51.race. Is anyone brave enough from ten or seven or even five laps out
:16:51. > :16:55.to hit it really hard? As long as they are running close to 64, that
:16:55. > :17:02.is not enough, they must really hurt Mo Farah to get a chance and I keep
:17:02. > :17:07.making this point and I don't think anybody well. The man who had kicked
:17:07. > :17:14.him in Daegu two years ago, and he moves out, not the runner he was,
:17:14. > :17:20.but he will be a threat, Ibrahim Jeilan. And he will be thinking of
:17:20. > :17:30.those good thoughts in Daegu but Mo Farah is a different athlete now.
:17:30. > :17:31.
:17:31. > :17:34.is, and the last three laps, 66, 66 and 67 so nothing really happening.
:17:34. > :17:42.As the most confident athlete with the pedigree leading up to this race
:17:42. > :17:46.suggests, here's the man beat. Galen Rupp starts moving up as the come
:17:46. > :17:52.down the home straight, the double Commonwealth champion, Moses Kipsiro
:17:52. > :17:56.next to Mo Farah, 11 laps to go. And the race starts to get serious.
:17:56. > :18:01.Everybody is gathering at the front but nobody is doing anything when
:18:01. > :18:07.they get there. That means it is starting to play more into Mo is
:18:07. > :18:16.fast finishing hands. But there are some fast finishes there, Dejen
:18:16. > :18:23.Gebremeskel was runner up in last year's Olympic 5000 metres. Tanui
:18:23. > :18:32.leads and Imane Merga and Kuma, Mo Farah is still in the middle of a
:18:32. > :18:37.pack. Settling in and relaxing and just doing enough. We can talk about
:18:37. > :18:42.Dejen Gebremeskel in a moment or two, while the backpack are still
:18:42. > :18:49.together, he won the silver medal, Dejen Gebremeskel, didn't have too
:18:49. > :18:52.good a run, I saw him in the Diamond League in New York but he really
:18:52. > :18:57.bounced back with a pacemaker for the first few laps and then he took
:18:57. > :19:01.it on and pushed it and pushed all the other men and the Ethiopians and
:19:01. > :19:06.27 minutes and still outkicked them at the end. But he outkicked them
:19:06. > :19:11.with a lap of 57 seconds at the end and admittedly it was subbed 27 but
:19:11. > :19:18.that is not Mo Farah's style. If he was in a race that was running
:19:18. > :19:25.roughly 27 .5, it would not be a 57. It will be a lot faster than
:19:25. > :19:32.that. This man we have seen demonstrating the ability to run 50
:19:32. > :19:39.for a lap. But there is his team-mate, Galen Rupp moving up, the
:19:39. > :19:47.three Ethiopian team-mates gathering together. Mo Farah following Galen
:19:47. > :19:51.Rupp and still, the pace is not doing anything essential. Another 67
:19:51. > :19:58.lap and that is fine, that will do and now when you get into the single
:19:58. > :20:05.laps, when you are running a 10,000m race, you are starting to get single
:20:05. > :20:09.figures and you start to think, " OK, I can think about this now". Mo
:20:09. > :20:12.Farah will be watching what is going on around him and now it is about
:20:12. > :20:16.concentrating, getting your mind ready. The race is starting to look
:20:16. > :20:21.as if it is a bit predictable, you can tell what will happen unless
:20:21. > :20:24.somebody goes mad now in the last nine laps and Mo has just got to
:20:24. > :20:28.keep his head together. This is a physical race but also a mental
:20:29. > :20:32.race. He slips in behind his team-mate, Galen Rupp. There is a
:20:32. > :20:37.bit of comfort in that because when they do that in training, and if
:20:37. > :20:39.they do that in a race, it is just like a training race, you are beside
:20:40. > :20:43.your team-mate, blocking off anything from behind and then Mo
:20:43. > :20:50.Farah moves into third place and into second place. And when he comes
:20:50. > :20:56.into the finishing straight this time, he will see the laps score
:20:56. > :21:01.telling him it is eight laps to go. Tanui leaving. Mo just there
:21:01. > :21:05.positioning himself where he wants to be, he has run a perfect race but
:21:05. > :21:09.now he must concentrate on keeping fairly close to the front. He cannot
:21:09. > :21:15.be at the back any more, he has to stay in contention. It doesn't
:21:15. > :21:20.really matter if you are running a lap wide. 67 again, thank you very
:21:20. > :21:25.much! This is the point of no return, isn't it. This is when
:21:25. > :21:31.somebody has to be brave. Somebody has to grab the race by the scruff
:21:31. > :21:37.of the neck. When they run down the back straight, they will reach the
:21:37. > :21:41.3,000m to go mark. And that means, once you are inside the last 3K, if
:21:41. > :21:46.you keep on running 66 seconds, you are asking for one thing and one
:21:46. > :21:56.thing only. Tanui has had to do a lot of the work himself, nobody has
:21:56. > :22:08.
:22:08. > :22:16.been that interested. The closer we get to two or three laps to go, the
:22:16. > :22:26.closer Mo Farah gets to the front. We see Muchiri, just for the first
:22:26. > :22:35.time, just get a little bit closer, the Kenyan moving into fifth place.
:22:35. > :22:43.Galen Rupp moving into that group. The Ugandan just on the inside. And
:22:43. > :22:50.the Rwandan in the yellow vest, just ahead of Rupp. You can tell Muchiri
:22:50. > :22:58.wanted to go and this is the first time anyone else aside of two new
:22:58. > :23:05.that has really gone for it. -- aside of Tanui. But there is still
:23:05. > :23:10.no real pace here. Galen Rupp is doing it cleverly there. He is on
:23:10. > :23:20.the shoulder of Mo Farah, so if you want to get in front of those two,
:23:20. > :23:30.you have to go out to the side, go wider. Farah and Rupp on the first
:23:30. > :23:31.
:23:31. > :23:39.and second in the Olympic Games, and they are being tracked by Merga. Six
:23:39. > :23:45.laps to go in the men's 2000m. Mo Farah, our favourite, our hope. The
:23:45. > :23:50.champion of the World Championships in the 5000m and the double Olympic
:23:50. > :23:57.champion from last year. He did not quite get the reception tonight that
:23:57. > :24:01.he did last year but he is getting quite a good reception. Just
:24:02. > :24:06.watching the defending champion, Jeilan, in the back of this group,
:24:06. > :24:13.it looks to me that he is not responding to these changes very
:24:13. > :24:20.well. Gebremeskel is. Jeilan was a little slow. He has just come around
:24:20. > :24:26.the outside. He was a slope when that bit of injection came. I like
:24:26. > :24:31.to see athletes ready to respond. -- he was slow when that had of
:24:31. > :24:36.injection came. Jeilan has realised his mistake and is trying to get
:24:37. > :24:42.back involved now. But he has expended energy doing that.
:24:42. > :24:47.Something has got to break. Mo Farah could not have wished for a after
:24:48. > :24:53.opening up here, to get five lap to go, in the form he is in, with the
:24:53. > :24:58.speed he has got, with this level of the, which is not brutal in any
:24:58. > :25:05.sense. We have seen many of those kinds of races in the World
:25:05. > :25:14.Championships in the past, so Mo will be grateful. Gebremeskel has
:25:14. > :25:18.not done anything yet. There goes Mo Farah! This is smart, tactical,
:25:18. > :25:26.clever. When he comes into the finishing straight he will see the
:25:26. > :25:33.sign saying four laps to go. And Merga and his team mate Rupp and
:25:33. > :25:38.Tanui now, have they come undone? Debra Meskill, the athlete who was
:25:38. > :25:45.runner-up in the Olympic Games, is going at the back door here. --
:25:45. > :25:54.Gebremeskel. The did not respond and is right at the back of the group.
:25:54. > :25:59.He does not look like he has anything to offer. But this could be
:25:59. > :26:05.a demonstration. This could absolutely be a show from Mo. There
:26:05. > :26:10.is Gebremeskel. He looks comfortable enough that he is struggling. He is
:26:10. > :26:15.five metres behind that group. That is not where he wants to be. He is
:26:15. > :26:25.out of reach. Muchiri has tried a couple of times to beat it up but he
:26:25. > :26:25.
:26:25. > :26:35.does not have the pace. Debra Meskill, the Silber champion in the
:26:35. > :26:38.
:26:38. > :26:45.8000 metres, is fading. -- silver controlling it. He is the boss.
:26:45. > :26:51.Three laps to go. Well, the boss has got to control it now. He has got to
:26:51. > :26:58.hold his position. His confidence must be sky-high. They have not
:26:58. > :27:05.really tested him and that was only a 66 - second lap. He is not hurting
:27:05. > :27:11.at all. He will be tired, they will all be tired. Mo Farah begins to
:27:11. > :27:21.control this race like the champion we know he is. Muchiri and Rupp are
:27:21. > :27:28.a bit of a challenge. Ritzenhein takes over. Tanui follows in. Mo has
:27:28. > :27:31.just got to be a little bit careful here. He needs to be just a bit
:27:31. > :27:36.tighter on those athletes. They are now getting into an area where the
:27:36. > :27:44.sprinters can take over. That is dangerous. That was a little bit of
:27:44. > :27:54.a bump. A little bit of a problem. 800 eaters to go. Mo is in a
:27:54. > :27:55.
:27:55. > :28:02.position where he can win it from here. -- 800m. He has got Tanui and
:28:02. > :28:08.Rupp for company. Rupp was meant to protect him on his shoulder, to make
:28:08. > :28:15.them run wide. He could not do it. Mo Farah, 600 to go. He is looking
:28:15. > :28:21.for Rupp, looking for his training partner, for his friend. He wants
:28:21. > :28:26.him on his shoulder. And he has got him there with 600 metres to go.
:28:26. > :28:34.does not have to think about anyone else now. He has just got to think
:28:34. > :28:43.about his own running. Mo Farah, the Olympic champion of 10,000m... Tanui
:28:43. > :28:48.moving. Come on, Mo. We have seen you do it all year. We have seen you
:28:48. > :28:58.sprint on the last lap. Now let's see what you can do today. The bell
:28:58. > :28:59.
:28:59. > :29:04.sounds. 26: 27. And Mo has to grab this last lap. He is strolling down
:29:04. > :29:12.the back straight. He has two more opportunities down the back
:29:12. > :29:17.straight, on the top end. Tanui with him. Now, Mo Farah, show us the
:29:17. > :29:23.speed you have shown us all season. Here comes Jeilan, the defending
:29:23. > :29:33.champion. Jeilan who won it last time, who hit him in the home
:29:33. > :29:52.
:29:52. > :29:57.Farah. He is the world champion. Gold once more! It was hard. It was
:29:57. > :30:01.tough. It was meant to be easy and it was not. It was meant to be a
:30:01. > :30:10.smooth last lap where he turned on the burners and he did it but they
:30:10. > :30:17.were all still there. Mo Farah, his third global gold medal. He has done
:30:17. > :30:27.it. He has done it. And goodness me, he gave us a few anxious moments in
:30:27. > :30:27.
:30:27. > :30:32.that last lap. You suddenly thought, this guy has got the pace, Jeilan.
:30:32. > :30:42.He has beaten Mo Farah in the past. But he had time to eat well, he
:30:42. > :30:44.
:30:44. > :30:48.saved just enough. -- he had time to it while. And he stood the test.
:30:48. > :30:52.When you are a champion as he is, a double Olympic champion, and the
:30:52. > :30:59.expectation is there an deep pressure is there, it is so easy to
:30:59. > :31:08.think, I am just to go there and do it. But we were saying they were not
:31:08. > :31:14.hurting him, they heard him on the last lap and he had to dig deep.
:31:14. > :31:21.noticed he was controlling the race all the way. Sebastien Coe will be
:31:21. > :31:28.delighted with that. Mo Farah, the world champion at 10,000m. The
:31:28. > :31:31.Olympic champion at 10,000m. The European champion at 10,000m. But
:31:31. > :31:41.Jeilan, the defending champion, showed you today he was not a fluke
:31:41. > :31:46.
:31:46. > :31:52.last time. That was a great race by Jeilan. Mo Farah, our champion.
:31:52. > :31:57.Tanui ran a great race two, third place. A great competitive race. The
:31:57. > :32:02.further the race went, the steadier it became. And here they come, into
:32:02. > :32:09.the finishing straight. He has stretched them, he has hurt them.
:32:09. > :32:17.And now here comes Jeilan with a run on the outside. This is what he has
:32:17. > :32:25.been training for. This is the speed in his legs. And he has beaten the
:32:25. > :32:35.champion, Jeilan first and Mo Farah second in Daegu. That is a brutal
:32:35. > :32:35.
:32:35. > :32:39.last lap. The time tells you they were able it tired there. Mo Farah
:32:39. > :32:44.thought he could win this race and he did. Jeilan hoped he could win it
:32:44. > :32:49.and he didn't. That is the difference between champions and
:32:49. > :32:59.runners up. Look how desperate he is. He wants this one. He is a
:32:59. > :33:10.
:33:10. > :33:14.winner. There are a lot of people at CHEERING
:33:14. > :33:22.10,000m races over the years have given us all sorts of stories and
:33:22. > :33:31.dramas. Not a lot happened in this one until somebody set the
:33:31. > :33:35.touchpaper alight right at the end. 59-44 in the last lap. Not the
:33:35. > :33:42.fastest lap he will ever run but it was enough. Mo had to really be
:33:42. > :33:52.there. Jeilan defended his title resolutely. A hammock that knows he
:33:52. > :33:52.
:33:52. > :33:56.has hidden in a race there. -- Mo knows that he has had a race there.
:33:56. > :34:01.But he finished with the result that he and all the rest of us so dearly
:34:01. > :34:10.wanted. He is the greatest distance runner we have ever had in Great
:34:10. > :34:20.Britain. It is a pleasure to be around him because his work ethic is
:34:20. > :34:32.
:34:32. > :34:41.he could win it. Jeilan wanted to win it. -- Mo thought he could win
:34:41. > :34:51.it. He does not need to get any better than that. These are crate
:34:51. > :34:57.
:34:57. > :35:05.now, world champion at 10,000m and 5000m, the Olympic champion. The
:35:05. > :35:14.European champion. He is on the edge of the very greats. Haile
:35:14. > :35:18.Gebrselassie, Bekele. And the British champion is now only a few
:35:18. > :35:24.steps away from joining the list of the all-time greats, and he can
:35:24. > :35:28.become the greatest of all time. He can win a few more things, break a
:35:28. > :35:32.world record or two, win another title or two, and this man could
:35:32. > :35:39.become... He is the only one in that list who is actually still
:35:39. > :35:46.performing. Very kind of you not to mention that he is also the British
:35:46. > :35:51.1500m record-holder. He wins the gold medal in the 10,000m at the
:35:51. > :36:01.World Championships. A great start for Great Britain. Mo Farah, the
:36:01. > :36:03.
:36:03. > :36:10.champion. Mo's ceremony will be later this
:36:10. > :36:15.evening. We had an intriguing, enthralling marathon today, in
:36:15. > :36:19.brutal conditions, the middle of the afternoon in Moscow, where
:36:19. > :36:29.temperatures got up to 30 degrees. Very little shade on a course which
:36:29. > :36:36.
:36:36. > :36:42.offered little respite for the its marathon performances, men and
:36:42. > :36:52.women. But in particular, its women have done so well in these World
:36:52. > :37:02.Championships since 1991, and it was another medal today. Fukushi came
:37:02. > :37:06.
:37:06. > :37:10.here. Perhaps not the best known of the Japanese. But she probably had
:37:10. > :37:16.the biggest smile when she crossed the line, because for a long time,
:37:16. > :37:21.it looked like she wasn't going to win a medal. But then the Ethiopian
:37:21. > :37:26.faded, and Fukushi had it all to herself. Stunning performance from
:37:26. > :37:31.Valeria Straneo. She led almost from the very beginning, Brendan, almost
:37:31. > :37:36.every step of the race until the last mile or so. A very
:37:36. > :37:42.well-deserved silver medal for the Italian. We were so pleased to see
:37:42. > :37:49.the way she ran today. She deserved that medal. But last year's champion
:37:49. > :37:52.proved again that she is the best. She won two years ago by going to
:37:52. > :37:57.the front with a couple of kilometres to go, and that is the
:37:57. > :38:02.first time that she hit the front again today. It is her trademark.
:38:02. > :38:08.She has done it in a couple of half marathons. She can finish so
:38:08. > :38:15.strongly. Edna Kiplagat of Kenya, the first woman to defend the world
:38:15. > :38:25.title in the marathon. Ladies and gentlemen, please rise for the
:38:25. > :38:25.
:38:25. > :39:34.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 69 seconds
:39:34. > :39:40.national anthem of Kenya. The first gold medal for Kenya at
:39:40. > :39:48.these World Championships. And Edna Kiplagat is a great championship
:39:48. > :39:53.marathon runner. Fukushi, just having a little stumble there. They
:39:53. > :39:57.are bound to be a little tired. She can be forgiven. Three very happy
:39:58. > :40:02.medallists. All can be proud of their performances. Susan Partridge
:40:02. > :40:06.finished 10th in that marathon, which was a really strong run. And
:40:06. > :40:09.Sonia Samuels finished in 16th place on a day when many of the big names
:40:09. > :40:15.did not manage to get to the finish, including the Olympic
:40:15. > :40:20.champion. There is one Olympic champion who did produce today. Now
:40:20. > :40:30.the world champion at 10,000 metres as well. Still on his lap of
:40:30. > :40:33.
:40:33. > :40:39.honour. I know his wife is here. The two twins are not here. When they
:40:40. > :40:44.are older, dad will be replaying things. "Here is another race I
:40:44. > :40:53.won". And they will pretend to be interested and impressed. And so
:40:53. > :41:03.they should be. A bit of family time for Mo Farah as
:41:03. > :41:04.
:41:04. > :41:09.he takes stock of that race. Revenge is sweet, Paula, hey? That last 50
:41:09. > :41:18.metres, you think, this lightning is not going to strike twice? I was
:41:18. > :41:22.probably the most nervous in the first few laps. I knew he had it,
:41:22. > :41:26.but he did not look as strong as he has done. He had to work hard for
:41:27. > :41:31.that. They did not necessarily get together and make the race as quick
:41:31. > :41:34.as they could have done, but they did disrupt him a bit. There was a
:41:35. > :41:39.bit of pushing and it did not get into the fluidity he would have
:41:39. > :41:45.liked. There was a lot of toing and froing. There were a couple of
:41:45. > :41:55.incidents where one of them run up the back of him. This was one of the
:41:55. > :42:00.
:42:00. > :42:06.stumbles. But he survived that and he was fine. He was having to force
:42:07. > :42:15.his way out. Steve alluded to it in commentary that Galen Rupp's job is
:42:15. > :42:21.to be the enforcer, and that did not quite come off. His opponent was
:42:21. > :42:28.trying to block him in. That was a calculated move, it was not an
:42:28. > :42:33.accident. I find it extraordinary, running at the pace they are going,
:42:33. > :42:43.that they can communicate their strategy so effectively. When Mo
:42:43. > :42:45.
:42:45. > :42:48.made that swiping move, Jeilan reacted straightaway. It is like a
:42:48. > :42:55.very fast-moving game of chess. You have to watch everything and be
:42:55. > :42:59.prepared to react. You have your own race, but be prepared to react. If
:42:59. > :43:06.Mo was expecting Jeilan to be at a certain point and he was not, Mo has
:43:06. > :43:12.to make sure he still goes ahead with his own plan. Which he did. It
:43:12. > :43:22.is humid, and the pace was not slouching before. So he is reacting
:43:22. > :43:23.
:43:23. > :43:27.well. He is looking comfortable here. But he has also got that
:43:27. > :43:31.bugbear of losing the 10,000 metres two years ago and desperately not
:43:31. > :43:38.wanting to do that. It is a bit of deja vu, because it is Jeilan
:43:38. > :43:44.again. These were anxious moments. He is checking both sides, but there
:43:44. > :43:52.is another gear there. Shows you that you can't look at the form
:43:52. > :44:02.books coming into a race like this. The world leader coming into this
:44:02. > :44:10.ended up finishing 16th. And Jeilan was thought to be the main man to
:44:10. > :44:20.challenge Mo. It was unpredictable. But Jeilan showed that he can be a
:44:20. > :44:31.
:44:31. > :44:35.danger at World Championships. He has that ranging stride, and he is
:44:35. > :44:44.just winding it up. He does not look like he has changed pace, but it is
:44:44. > :44:49.hard to go with him. Mo is quicker at this stage. Is this the worst of
:44:49. > :44:54.the last two years? If this was the home straight in day go, would it
:44:55. > :45:01.have been the same? Is it the work of the last two years? And the
:45:01. > :45:05.confidence of the last two years. In Daegu, he panicked a bit. He
:45:05. > :45:11.slightly misjudged it and went to soon. Here, he wasn't. He knew what
:45:11. > :45:14.he was doing, even if he did feel that his legs were a bit heavy.
:45:14. > :45:23.must never take his performances for granted, because with success comes
:45:23. > :45:30.expect Haitian. -- comes expectation.
:45:30. > :45:40.Come on ! I actually found that very difficult
:45:40. > :45:45.to watch. With 200 metres to go, I really wasn't sure. Look at that !
:45:45. > :45:51.But he does that to us now. Ashamed and embarrassed as an describe it.
:45:51. > :45:55.Let's hear from Mo. This is the one that got away two years ago, but not
:45:55. > :45:59.today. You were not going to lose this one. I definitely had the
:45:59. > :46:05.experience from a couple of years ago. This time, I saw Jeilan
:46:05. > :46:10.coming. I knew he was behind me. It was important that I had something
:46:10. > :46:14.left. It was nice to beat him this time. Tell me about the race and the
:46:14. > :46:22.tactics. You had your heels clipped a couple of times. I nearly went
:46:22. > :46:25.down a couple of times, but thank God, I didn't go down. I managed to
:46:26. > :46:34.cover every move. Me and my training partner Galen Rupp managed to work
:46:34. > :46:38.together. Your face is always a big in the home straight. If you look at
:46:38. > :46:43.this monitor, you can see yourself. Look at the determination on that
:46:43. > :46:52.face. I didn't want to lose again. A couple of years ago, I remember when
:46:52. > :46:57.I was second. I kept looking across, as you can see. When did you realise
:46:58. > :47:03.you had it won? Just as I was crossing the line. What is the
:47:03. > :47:08.feeling as you cross the line? Is it a sense of relief? You have all four
:47:08. > :47:13.medals over 5000 and macro 10,000 metres. It was nice to come and win
:47:13. > :47:19.it. That was the one that was missing. So it is worth it. Training
:47:19. > :47:25.has been hard and I have spent a lot of time away from the family. When I
:47:25. > :47:29.went back to compete at the London games and my little daughter didn't
:47:29. > :47:36.recognise me, one of the twins, she did not, to me because I have been
:47:36. > :47:41.away. So it is hard because you don't want to be away from your kids
:47:41. > :47:44.for that long as a parent. But I am proud for my country. We are proud
:47:45. > :47:49.of you. One final word on what it is like to be the man with the target
:47:49. > :47:55.on his back 's last time round, we hoped you would win. This time, we
:47:55. > :48:02.expected you to win will stop what is it like? It is hard work.
:48:02. > :48:06.Sometimes, it is just easier to go out in a race like in Monaco where I
:48:06. > :48:10.ended up running a personal best. It is harder, but it is nice to have
:48:10. > :48:14.the nation behind you. I get great messages from Twitter and Facebook,
:48:14. > :48:20.so it is nice to see so many people still cheering for me and who still
:48:20. > :48:27.believe in me. Thank you for keeping on delivering. Well done. I just
:48:27. > :48:37.want to say hello to my grandma. She is in the UK now. And my parents and
:48:37. > :49:11.
:49:11. > :49:16.everyone in the UK who gave me great So, day one, second medal available,
:49:16. > :49:21.gold for Great Britain. We have won 50% of the gold medals available at
:49:21. > :49:25.this championship so far. To see him there, chatting about the
:49:25. > :49:28.sacrifices. It was a fantastic race, but when you put into context that
:49:28. > :49:35.one of his twins didn't recognise him, it is about compartmentalised
:49:35. > :49:39.your life isn't it? Right now, I am 30 years old, I have to go for it
:49:39. > :49:49.this opportunity will not come again. People bubbly had to work
:49:49. > :49:49.
:49:49. > :49:55.harder this year than any other so tough to get the balance right.
:49:55. > :50:04.But to be the champion, you have to give it everything. And he does
:50:04. > :50:09.that. It is extraordinary after last year. One of the factors was
:50:09. > :50:15.intimidation. But there is also expected, and the field around him
:50:15. > :50:19.one to beat him. There is expectation from all of us that he
:50:19. > :50:23.will just go out there and win gold medals, and balancing all of those
:50:23. > :50:27.emotions, you have been there. You have been the golden girl that
:50:27. > :50:32.everyone said would win. That is tough. It is tough, but however much
:50:32. > :50:37.pressure comes from outside, the biggest pressure is from yourself.
:50:37. > :50:41.Right now, as Mo said, he is happy because he is running well. He is
:50:41. > :50:46.having fun. He is running a lot of PBS Mac. Everything is coming
:50:46. > :50:50.together. He is in that double patch where he believes he is going to win
:50:50. > :50:54.and no one will beat him. And everyone else is looking around
:50:54. > :51:00.thinking, I am running for second here. I don't really believe. Jeilan
:51:00. > :51:03.was closest to be leaving, but he did not believe he would get past
:51:03. > :51:08.Mo. I am glad he said he did not know he had won until he crossed a
:51:08. > :51:12.line, because he did need to keep running through the line. He is
:51:12. > :51:21.happiest when locked away in the training camp, but that is a
:51:21. > :51:24.sacrifice as a parent. At six o'clock, he will get his medal here
:51:25. > :51:29.in the Luzhniki Stadium, so make sure you are around. We need you at
:51:29. > :51:32.home standing up, because there are not as many British supporters as we
:51:33. > :51:37.would like. Last year, one of the factors he felt got him through
:51:37. > :51:42.those gold medals was the home support. You did not have a 12 man,
:51:42. > :51:52.so to speak, from the crowd here. You were doing this on your own. No
:51:52. > :51:52.
:51:52. > :51:55.other British athlete on the field. It felt like a solo effort. He needs
:51:55. > :51:59.to do what he does on the track and there are pockets of great British
:51:59. > :52:06.support out there, he would have heard that but primarily, Mo has to
:52:06. > :52:11.do the job. And he did, Mo done it. And the producer of that clip, he
:52:11. > :52:17.expected to work with him for the next eight days. I will keep my
:52:17. > :52:24.emotions to myself next time. Paula, you were very cool there. They did
:52:24. > :52:30.not have a camera on me in the first five laps! I haven't got the video
:52:30. > :52:40.evidence to prove it! Let's go back to the field events, Shara Proctor
:52:40. > :52:42.
:52:42. > :52:50.metres to make it through to Tamara's final and the first person
:52:50. > :52:55.we will see is letting Okagbare. One of the best sprinters and jumpers --
:52:55. > :53:02.blessing Okagbare. She has got so much flat speed. She took off well
:53:02. > :53:08.as well. It is the longest jump we have seen so far by the looks of it.
:53:08. > :53:16.6.75 should not be a problem for her. But known over the last couple
:53:16. > :53:20.of seasons as a sprinter where she really has set the world alight with
:53:20. > :53:30.sub 11 100 medical kings. That is good, 6.83, the furthest we have
:53:30. > :53:34.
:53:34. > :53:38.seen. -- sub 11 100m clock timings. I'm now Shara Proctor. She broke the
:53:38. > :53:45.British record -- and now Shara Proctor. She has had some fantastic
:53:45. > :53:48.no jumps but she gets a white flag this time and that looked to be a
:53:48. > :53:57.very promising start in deed for the Birchfield Harrier. Watch this. She
:53:57. > :54:04.is fast. She is flexible. And look at that, my goodness, 26 centimetres
:54:04. > :54:09.behind the maximum take off point. So certainly making safe because she
:54:09. > :54:13.has had some big no jumps close to seven metres this season and she
:54:13. > :54:16.certainly looks in that sort of shape. We could be in for a surprise
:54:16. > :54:21.medal at these championships if she nails one in the final but has she
:54:21. > :54:28.made it through? Yes, she has. The longest jump we have seen, beating
:54:28. > :54:38.Okagbare. 6.85 and Shara Proctor is safely through to the final. A new
:54:38. > :54:38.
:54:38. > :54:43.name to most of us is the United States jumper Polk, finished second
:54:43. > :54:47.in the US trials. Fairly successful in the Diamond League trials,
:54:47. > :54:54.finished fourth in London. That is good, that is very good indeed and
:54:54. > :55:01.that is certainly up with Okagbare and Shara Proctor. Very promising
:55:01. > :55:10.athlete indeed. She has been around for a long, long time domestically
:55:10. > :55:20.but she lacks international major championship internationally
:55:20. > :55:23.for the United States but she is certainly proving her worth here.
:55:23. > :55:27.Tori Polk being applauded by her coach and that is a massive lifetime
:55:27. > :55:32.best performance. GABBY LOGAN: Shara Proctor safely
:55:32. > :55:42.through to the final of the long jump. Going back to the track, it is
:55:42. > :55:49.now the decathlon 400m heats, the COMMENTATOR: The athletes are out on
:55:50. > :55:59.the track for the second heat. We had a good heat a little while ago.
:56:00. > :56:00.
:56:00. > :56:10.Through Michael Schrader who goes in lane five in the second heats.
:56:10. > :56:10.
:56:10. > :56:20.Suarez and 48 seconds as well as Dudas. But Michael Schrader is the
:56:20. > :56:21.
:56:21. > :56:26.one to watch, 110 points behind the overall leader which is not Ashton
:56:26. > :56:32.Eaton. More about that a little later on. Converting time into
:56:32. > :56:37.points is exactly what these guys want. At this stage of the day, the
:56:37. > :56:42.last event on day one of the decathlon and it is Michael Schrader
:56:42. > :56:46.going quickly into the back straight. Mikk Pahapill on the
:56:46. > :56:54.outside to the left-hand side of your picture being chased by
:56:54. > :57:00.Schrader, the former world and European youth champion. One of a
:57:00. > :57:10.crop of good multi-events athletes coached by the last German to win
:57:10. > :57:13.
:57:13. > :57:19.pressure on everybody including the overall leader, Gunnar Nixon.
:57:19. > :57:26.Schrader finishing quite strongly... I was going to say and
:57:26. > :57:32.46 seconds but just outside, 47.66. That is a new lifetime best for the
:57:32. > :57:37.young German. Finishing the first day on a real high. He'll be tough
:57:37. > :57:42.to beat tomorrow, very good at the technical events we have got discus
:57:42. > :57:51.and pole vault to come in the field as well the hurdles and the javelin,
:57:51. > :57:57.of course. And the 1,500m. This is a replay of the jump we saw before by
:57:57. > :58:03.Tori Polk of the USA. Let's watch it again. Beautiful take-off, sailed
:58:03. > :58:11.through the air. And went out toward seven metres but certainly qualifies
:58:11. > :58:14.for that final, 6.75 it was confirmed that. Still behind Shara
:58:14. > :58:20.Proctor of Great Britain who leaves all of the qualifiers in both the
:58:20. > :58:24.pools at the moment. Having taken of 26 centimetres behind the board,
:58:24. > :58:30.that could have been a seven-metre jump for Shara Proctor. Everybody
:58:30. > :58:37.hoping that she can jump a seven-metre distance by the time we
:58:37. > :58:43.get to tomorrow's final. That was Chris, the Commonwealth champion
:58:43. > :58:46.with the hammer. Doing what so many hammer thrower is he doing which is
:58:46. > :58:54.pushing the hammer up into the cage so it has taken all those officials
:58:54. > :58:58.to get it down again, from Chris Harmse and that has caused a delay
:58:58. > :59:04.in the second qualifying round of the hammer throwing. Dilshod Nazarov
:59:04. > :59:07.of Tadjikistan is the president of his athletics union. And the
:59:07. > :59:12.president of Great Britain's athletic Federation is, of course,
:59:12. > :59:19.Lynn Davies. I wonder if he fancies coming out of retirement. Just to
:59:19. > :59:25.show the way for British athletes but over the qualifying distance
:59:25. > :59:35.there, one of only five athletes to achieve the qualifying distance. The
:59:35. > :59:35.
:59:35. > :59:40.first pool we had a couple of guys, including the Olympic champion,
:59:40. > :59:50.Krisztian Pars and Lukas Melich of the Czech Republic, both of whom
:59:50. > :59:51.
:59:51. > :00:00.went over 78 metres. And Nazir of also produced another one. 77.93
:00:00. > :00:07.metres. The name of Sergiy Lebid of in the history books is a man who
:00:07. > :00:15.has won the World Championship title twice. And this is his sermon
:00:15. > :00:17.delivered her son, Sergej Litvinov junior. There he is, the Olympic
:00:17. > :00:23.champion and double world champion of the past and the second longest
:00:23. > :00:30.flower in history. I would have to say, he hasn't passed on his superb
:00:30. > :00:40.technique and speed to his son, he is pretty useful and has thrown far
:00:40. > :00:41.
:00:41. > :00:51.this year and it is long on that occasion. The third round for him
:00:51. > :00:59.
:00:59. > :01:03.and 77 .41, he is safely through to in qualification, that long jump
:01:03. > :01:06.competition is still going on but because she qualified at the very
:01:06. > :01:16.first attempt, she was allowed to leave the arena and on the way out
:01:16. > :01:17.
:01:17. > :01:22.and do it in one job. He did just that. Oh, my God! I am so happy, I
:01:22. > :01:25.was able to watch it and I was way behind the board. I didn't realise I
:01:25. > :01:30.was so far behind it but just happy to get the qualification mark on the
:01:30. > :01:38.first jump. And now it is crunch time tomorrow so I have to go back
:01:38. > :01:43.and get ready for tomorrow. You know the seven-metre jump is capable of.
:01:43. > :01:47.Hey, I don't want to get to confident exactly right now but I am
:01:47. > :01:51.aiming for the stars right now, the moon actually. Like I say, go back
:01:51. > :01:54.home and get ready for tomorrow. Reach for the stars, the moon,
:01:54. > :02:04.everything, you deserve everything, enjoy the final. Good luck. Thank
:02:04. > :02:09.
:02:09. > :02:15.decathlon, Gunnar Nixon is the person leading at the moment and
:02:15. > :02:22.Ashton Eaton is a bit under par at the moment. As Paul was mentioning,
:02:22. > :02:32.I think Michael Schrader has got himself into pole position. A big
:02:32. > :02:32.
:02:32. > :02:37.cheer for Ilya Shkurenev, at the moment in 13th place overall. And
:02:37. > :02:47.here is Andrei Kravchenko, he prefers the Russian name although
:02:47. > :02:48.
:02:48. > :02:55.that is the Belarusian spelling. He is very well placed. And the man we
:02:55. > :03:02.have not seen yet is the 20-year-old from Oklahoma who overhauled Ashton
:03:02. > :03:09.Eaton in the high jump, Gunnar Nixon. There he is. All events
:03:09. > :03:12.tomorrow for him are pretty weak. What can he manage here? Could he
:03:12. > :03:15.still be leading come the end of the first day? We expected Ashton Eaton
:03:15. > :03:25.to be out in front but still a few questions over his fitness, he is
:03:25. > :03:40.
:03:40. > :03:46.not quite there. Can anyone take noise coming from the style of the
:03:46. > :03:52.stadium with the long jump pit. -- the side of the stadium. He is just
:03:52. > :04:02.20. Showing tremendous composure for a young man, or a little bit
:04:02. > :04:10.
:04:10. > :04:17.Incidentally, Trey Hardee, the other American and the winner of the last
:04:17. > :04:27.two World Championships, he did not start in his feet after the high
:04:27. > :04:38.
:04:38. > :04:48.jump so American challenges left to decathlon, Ashton Eaton goes in the
:04:48. > :04:48.
:04:48. > :04:52.next and final heat. The final event of the first day of the decathlon.
:04:52. > :04:58.And this time we go, watch Gunnar Nixon in lane number four in the
:04:58. > :05:05.bright red. Personal best of 40.37. Anything close to that, he will be
:05:05. > :05:11.delighted. In pretty good shape coming down the back straight. The
:05:11. > :05:15.quickest man in personal best is in the sixth place overall at the
:05:15. > :05:20.moment. So if you can get close to his personal best, he will be
:05:20. > :05:25.ideally placed going into the second day but at the moment it is the
:05:25. > :05:33.Belarusian taking it out and he will leave coming out into the home
:05:33. > :05:43.straight from Edward Mikan. Gunnar Nixon loving hard, trying to come
:05:43. > :05:44.
:05:44. > :05:54.through and instead it is all about the time. 40.35 that 40 8.35. A very
:05:54. > :06:05.
:06:05. > :06:11.tidy run from Willem Coertzen. A personal best time for Coertzen.
:06:11. > :06:17.Yes, that will be very interesting indeed, because Nixon came into this
:06:17. > :06:26.event on day one with a good time under his belt previously for the
:06:26. > :06:33.season. He just missed time to that one. -- he mistimed it. He was going
:06:33. > :06:43.until that point. Then Shkurenev came storming through to get ahead
:06:43. > :06:45.
:06:45. > :06:50.of him, along with Coertzen. Nixon, just 20 years old, a former world
:06:51. > :06:56.junior champion, is eight or did just talent. That was the only
:06:56. > :07:01.glitch in what has been a perfect day for him so far. 10.84 for the
:07:01. > :07:08.100 metres earlier today. Seven metres in the long jump and a
:07:08. > :07:12.massive high jump, 2.14 metres. Ashley Bryant of Great Britain would
:07:12. > :07:16.love to have been alongside Nixon and the rest to contest this
:07:16. > :07:26.catalogue, but he did not turn up for the 100 metres this morning
:07:26. > :07:45.
:07:45. > :07:51.the long jump as far as a British prospect is concerned.
:07:51. > :07:56.Lorraine Ugen, as you can see there. The Blackheath and Bromley Harrier
:07:56. > :08:03.has a problem. Two files against her name. This is the last jump. Has she
:08:03. > :08:08.got a red flag or a white flag 's it is read. What it is appointed. --
:08:08. > :08:13.what a disappointment. Lorraine Ugen is continuing her education in
:08:13. > :08:17.Texas. Just 21 years old, a wonderful prospect. But on this
:08:17. > :08:24.occasion, she has three crosses next to her name and takes no further
:08:24. > :08:31.part in the competition. Well, it is all going to get very
:08:31. > :08:35.short and sharp soon. Seven 100 metre heats are upon us soon. We
:08:35. > :08:38.will take another trip down memory lane back to 2009, the when the
:08:38. > :08:48.fastest ever 100 metres of all time was run in the World Championships
:08:48. > :09:04.
:09:04. > :09:11.Tyson Gay alongside Usain Bolt, but it is Bolt all the way. It is gold
:09:11. > :09:21.for Bolt ! He has done it again ! A new world record for Usain Bolt !
:09:21. > :09:25.They say lightning doesn't strike twice. Can you believe it?
:09:25. > :09:31.And of course, that still stands. While he has run fast, he has never
:09:31. > :09:36.run that fast since. He has, that season, been running well within
:09:36. > :09:42.himself. Colin Jackson has joined us in the studio. He is getting warmed
:09:42. > :09:51.up, looking relaxed. But he has not ought to the debt that we know he
:09:51. > :09:54.can plumb? Yes, his defeat may have shocked a lot of people. I watched
:09:54. > :09:59.that race and scrutinised it and realised that there was not a big
:09:59. > :10:03.problem, just that he was lacking racing. He was not in the groove
:10:03. > :10:06.yet, but he still managed to go under that ten second figure. We
:10:06. > :10:10.thought something special was on the cards. Last year at the Olympic
:10:10. > :10:18.Games, after speaking to his coach, he thought Usain should have broken
:10:18. > :10:22.the world record. He should have gone faster than 9.58. He failed.
:10:22. > :10:25.Will his coach put pressure on him to produce a quicker time today? I
:10:25. > :10:30.am not sure, but I am keeping my fingers crossed that we do see
:10:30. > :10:38.something magical. We are going to go back down to the track for the
:10:38. > :10:41.400 metre heats for the decathlon. We are certainly going to try and
:10:41. > :10:46.answer the question as to what sort of shape Ashton Eaton, the world
:10:46. > :10:56.record holder, is in. We had a look at his ankles earlier and there is
:10:56. > :10:56.
:10:56. > :12:06.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 69 seconds
:12:06. > :12:10.no strapping on either of them, so Average, for him. Not bad in the
:12:10. > :12:20.shot put, not add in the high jump, but this will be a real test for
:12:20. > :12:59.
:12:59. > :13:09.Ashton Eaton could run away from everybody. He is going to have to
:13:09. > :13:15.do. At the moment, the US athlete is leading. And Schrader of Germany is
:13:15. > :13:24.in second place. Ashton Eaton looks as though he means business. He is
:13:24. > :13:34.already closing down. He has left Sintnicolaas for dead. Damian Warner
:13:34. > :13:36.
:13:36. > :13:40.Way back in lane two making good progress. But it is all about Ashton
:13:40. > :13:47.Eaton. We could see a remarkable run from him. When he grabbed the world
:13:47. > :13:51.record, he was close to 46 seconds. He is going away from everybody.
:13:51. > :13:55.Ashton Eaton is running one of the best 400 metres of his life. Damian
:13:55. > :14:04.Warner is coming through strongly. But Ashton Eaton, by an absolute
:14:04. > :14:12.country mile. That is one of the fastest 400 metres ever in decathlon
:14:12. > :14:18.terms. That gains him a massive total of points, 1007. He could well
:14:18. > :14:22.be back on par with Gunnar Nixon and Michael Schrader at the end of day
:14:22. > :14:26.one. What a remarkable run from Ashton Eaton, after a very
:14:26. > :14:33.disappointing high jump, edition only a couple of hours ago. That was
:14:33. > :14:38.truly spectacular. I think a few questions have been and said, a few
:14:38. > :14:48.doubts dispelled about the form and fitness and health of Ashton Eaton.
:14:48. > :14:48.
:14:48. > :14:52.He was an amazing sight coming down the home straight. He looks far
:14:52. > :14:58.closer to a proper sprinter than the rest, those lumbering creatures
:14:58. > :15:03.behind him. The distance between them says it all. Shaking his head
:15:03. > :15:10.from side to side as he tries to keep some form. Ashton Eaton,
:15:10. > :15:18.different class. Just tiring a little bit at the end, but you saw a
:15:18. > :15:23.class act there. I can confirm that Ashton Eaton of the United States,
:15:23. > :15:30.the world record-holder and Olympic champion, is back in the lead. At
:15:30. > :15:35.the end of day one, he had one blip in his competition progressed
:15:35. > :15:45.throughout this first day, the high jump, but he is back on top of the
:15:45. > :15:58.
:15:58. > :16:05.Things are going well for Ashton Eaton. Just a little aside. They did
:16:05. > :16:07.not go so well month and a half ago in training. He has just got married
:16:07. > :16:16.to his heptathlon sweetheart, and they were doing gambling practice
:16:16. > :16:19.together, which is incredibly sweet -- javelin practice together. But he
:16:19. > :16:24.went to retrieve his javelin, and she actually got him with the
:16:24. > :16:28.javelin. There are many couples together saying, why can't we
:16:28. > :16:37.practice javelin together? But it was unintended, obviously. He still
:16:37. > :16:42.married her. It did catch him. It just caught the top of his lip. I
:16:42. > :16:47.hope he signed all the insurance papers beforehand. She is of course
:16:47. > :16:50.competing here as well, and they are now married. It looks like married
:16:50. > :16:57.life is suiting him, because that was a very impressive run. Wasn't it
:16:57. > :17:00.just? As Paul said, he has not had the perfect first day, and his
:17:00. > :17:06.second day tends not to be very strong, so he needs that buffer
:17:06. > :17:11.going into the second day. But world record-holder, he is amazing.
:17:11. > :17:16.Olympic champion, he has got it all. For his stature, he packs a punch
:17:16. > :17:21.for the decathlon. Moving on to the 100 metres, the heats are upon us.
:17:21. > :17:27.Seven heats in total. Obviously, there is one man everyone is excited
:17:27. > :17:32.about seeing, but let's talk about our men, firstly James Dasaolu.
:17:32. > :17:40.Unfortunately for him and he did not manage to make it through to the
:17:40. > :17:46.final in the last event. We are all excited about this. He produced this
:17:46. > :17:56.astonishing performance in the qualifying round. But in the final,
:17:56. > :17:56.
:17:56. > :18:04.when Chambers ran on at 10.0, and so did Harry Aikines-Aryeetey. So I
:18:04. > :18:09.imagine James was watching that. the worry in that story that, for
:18:09. > :18:13.whatever reason, he said it was cramped, but he did not run in that
:18:13. > :18:20.final? In these championships, he will have heats, semis and a final.
:18:20. > :18:27.It will be a real test of endurance. That did worry me. It is not the
:18:27. > :18:31.first time we have seen him pull out of events within legal. -- with a
:18:31. > :18:35.nickel. Sometimes you have got to go through it to understand more about
:18:35. > :18:39.yourself as an athlete. I worry when athletes repeatedly pull out of
:18:39. > :18:43.things. You question how hurt they are in the first place. A lot of
:18:43. > :18:48.people will say if you are injured, you are injured, in his case, he
:18:48. > :18:52.might have thought, I have done enough today. He will not be able to
:18:52. > :18:57.do that at the World Championships. There are a lot of guys running sub
:18:57. > :19:01.ten seconds, and he will need to be on his game repeatedly. He had the
:19:01. > :19:06.opportunity to race against Bolt in London, and pulled out very close to
:19:06. > :19:11.the start of that race. If he had gone head to head with Bolt, that
:19:11. > :19:19.would be a kind of fear factor that would have gone. You want to compete
:19:19. > :19:25.against your top opponents as often as you can. Another European athlete
:19:25. > :19:29.did that, the Frenchman. When he got under the magical ten second
:19:29. > :19:33.barrier, he had got into the mix with the other top athletes.
:19:33. > :19:37.James's PB is quicker than his, but he raced better from it. I was
:19:37. > :19:41.hoping that if we saw James get into these real head to head
:19:41. > :19:44.competitions, he would settle into the groove of being one of the top
:19:44. > :19:48.flight. He is the second quickest 100 metre runner of all time will
:19:48. > :19:57.stop he has got what it takes to run those kinds of times. This will be a
:19:57. > :20:02.really big test. It will be, but like Colin said, the athletes of
:20:02. > :20:05.yesteryear went out and competed hard. They work the circuit. So
:20:05. > :20:09.coming to the championships, they knew their competitors. They
:20:09. > :20:13.understood what it takes to elevate themselves. It is that confidence
:20:13. > :20:18.you need to understand that yes, I have run a quick time, but I know I
:20:18. > :20:23.can repeat it. That puts fear into the other athletes. Looking at
:20:23. > :20:27.Christine earlier, Colin said, you run to win your race. That is the
:20:27. > :20:37.way you were coached. With 100 metres, do you apply the same? Do
:20:37. > :20:38.
:20:38. > :20:44.you look at what others around you have previously done? they know the
:20:44. > :20:49.potentially, they have the ability to cruise this one but it is a
:20:49. > :20:54.dangerous game unless you are Usain Bolt. If you can jog down the rest,
:20:54. > :20:58.I do not think James has that luxury, he has to keep working to
:20:59. > :21:01.make sure he moves safely through. And in the first round, you have
:21:01. > :21:04.only done the performances of that season but then you are ranked on
:21:04. > :21:07.the performances you do here on the track so if you are coming in third
:21:07. > :21:14.and just cruising, you could get a really tough next round draw and
:21:14. > :21:23.that is what you don't want. So you go for it. Exactly. Whether it is
:21:23. > :21:30.British interest or globally, Nesta Carter 's is a challenger there and
:21:30. > :21:34.sellers hand down to the commentary, the first of these seven 100m heats.
:21:34. > :21:44.COMMENTATOR: I think it will be Bailey Cole ever be watching and
:21:44. > :21:46.
:21:46. > :21:54.perhaps Christophe Lemaitre, the two qualifying, there was a preliminary
:21:54. > :22:03.round for this, Calvin Kang Li Loong also came through. The Zimbabwean
:22:03. > :22:07.runner as well, and the rest of the field on the screen. The first three
:22:07. > :22:17.and the next three fastest. Some of these heats, there are seven of
:22:17. > :22:19.
:22:19. > :22:22.them, Dwain Chambers goes in the third, James Dasaolu and four, have
:22:22. > :22:31.-- Harry Aikines Aryeetey in sixth, and there are others who are more
:22:31. > :22:40.tasty than others. The African junior champion, Gabriel Mvumvure,
:22:40. > :22:44.now 25 years of age, and the great talent this year who has run quickly
:22:44. > :22:49.but Christophe Lemaitre, by contrast, has been out of sorts
:22:49. > :22:56.particularly in the second half of the season. He started OK and he has
:22:56. > :23:02.had to watch his team-mate, Jimmy Vicaut, going into this. Christophe
:23:02. > :23:05.Lemaitre definitely better at the 200 metres but having to run out
:23:05. > :23:10.here. He may need this 100 metres to bring him on a little bit. He has
:23:10. > :23:13.been told he has been a couple of problems and he has pulled out a
:23:13. > :23:19.couple of meetings but after the French championships he came and ran
:23:19. > :23:24.in London. Only fourth in that but Bailey Cole, he almost beat Bolt at
:23:24. > :23:34.the start of the year. Some suggestions that he might have eased
:23:34. > :24:00.
:24:00. > :24:05.morning to make it through to 10.02 into a very slight raise. And
:24:05. > :24:09.that has laid a marker right at the beginning. Funny suggestion is the
:24:09. > :24:16.preliminary round, it is the first one for most of the big names where
:24:16. > :24:19.they come out with a bit more a bang that they might do, hanging around
:24:19. > :24:23.all day to wait for the chance to perform and Bailey Cole has produced
:24:23. > :24:31.something near his personal best. Rest of the match after a terrible
:24:31. > :24:37.start to did well to get up into second and it was tight after that.
:24:37. > :24:40.And they keep coming from Jamaica. Bailey Cole, wonderful, easy start.
:24:40. > :24:45.Quite impressed with Christophe Lemaitre, had to work hard for it
:24:45. > :24:55.but showed that the speed is there. If you can improve things in the
:24:55. > :25:05.earlier stages of the race. Kemar Bailey-Cole as a style to watch Andy
:25:05. > :25:07.
:25:07. > :25:14.fear for the rest of the Jamaicans. -- and you fear. No macro Asafa
:25:14. > :25:19.Powell. He has also got Nesta Carter and the likes of Usain Bolt and
:25:19. > :25:26.Bailey Cole is laying down a reminder of how good he can be.
:25:26. > :25:36.21 years of age, and the ten seconds this year, 9.96 and that was a
:25:36. > :25:37.
:25:37. > :25:43.pretty impressive start for him. Mark Butler is telling me a stadium
:25:43. > :25:52.record, 10.02. I can't believe they have never broken ten seconds here
:25:52. > :25:55.but that is the away the times look for the first heat. We can wrap up
:25:55. > :26:01.the qualifying competition for the winning's long jump with Brittney
:26:01. > :26:05.Reese. The defending world champion who jumped 6.57 in the first two
:26:05. > :26:12.rounds. She came up for the third round lying in 12th place overall
:26:12. > :26:20.and only 12 athletes qualify for tomorrow's final. It wasn't any
:26:20. > :26:23.longer, in fact it was a lot less, down in the sixth and 40s. She would
:26:23. > :26:33.have to hang on and hang on until all of the athletes have completed
:26:33. > :26:35.
:26:35. > :26:39.their three rounds -- down in the 6.40s. Brittney Reese came down to
:26:39. > :26:46.the final to defend her title or virtue of the fact she had a second
:26:46. > :26:49.longest jump, slightly longer than that of her closest defender. From
:26:49. > :26:57.Britain's point of view, Shara Proctor was still the longest on
:26:57. > :27:01.display in the stadium rock when he raced through to the final - just.
:27:01. > :27:10.There are the qualifiers. 6.85 for Shara Proctor and everybody here is
:27:10. > :27:16.utterly convinced that she can make seven metres by hitting the board
:27:16. > :27:22.was not a single Cribari has got a busy day five preliminary rounds and
:27:23. > :27:32.also she goes in the long jump as well as the other events -- Lessing
:27:33. > :27:35.
:27:35. > :27:42.back to the first 100 metres race, adverse eulogising with his
:27:42. > :27:47.beautiful style. It is a beautiful thing to hold. Donovan Bailey was
:27:47. > :27:51.here early and same athletes don't drive but Bailey Cole did not drive
:27:51. > :27:57.either but he focused on what needed to be done, it was a nice gun to
:27:57. > :28:02.tape race. Beautifully relaxed and nearly perfect. Great to see.
:28:02. > :28:06.Reminded me of a young Michael Johnson with the features. But that
:28:06. > :28:10.reminds me that Michael Johnson will be with us on Monday, sadly he has
:28:10. > :28:14.been through a family bereavement solo his arrival in Moscow is
:28:14. > :28:24.delayed. Moving onto the second heat and Martina and Nesta Carter are
:28:24. > :28:25.
:28:25. > :28:35.but certainly a real medal prospect. The nearest challenger now to Usain
:28:35. > :28:37.
:28:37. > :28:41.Bolt, Nesta Carter, goes in the third line. Also Churandy Martina.
:28:41. > :28:51.You see the Japanese flag waving in the background, he has gone close to
:28:51. > :28:53.
:28:53. > :29:03.breaching ten seconds. The lanes of 100 metres are littered with young
:29:03. > :29:19.
:29:20. > :29:29.genius to fails to materialise later metres. Three to go through
:29:30. > :29:39.
:29:39. > :29:49.down but Nesta Carter coming away strongly. -- a fall in there. Nesta
:29:49. > :29:52.
:29:52. > :29:58.Carter, the winner. And again, job done for Nesta Carter. Yoshihide
:29:58. > :30:05.Kiryu also through by the looks of it but Nesta Carter as we expected.
:30:05. > :30:11.You don't often get that, Ifrish Alberg down in that lane and
:30:11. > :30:16.stumbles out of the blocks, Carter going well. Yoshihide Kiryu doesn't
:30:16. > :30:21.quite hang on as Gavin Smellie finishes well. Not quite as
:30:21. > :30:26.impressive, Nesta Carter, aid different athlete to Kemar
:30:26. > :30:31.Bailey-Cole, much more powerful. I think he will be a threat, so much
:30:31. > :30:38.experience. Can start very well, Carter, he can explode out of the
:30:38. > :30:43.blocks. Look at the reaction times. The young Japanese athlete, you can
:30:43. > :30:52.see why, when he gets hold of it and comes out of the blocks, he is small
:30:52. > :30:58.and compact but Carter and Martina, the two names sailing through.
:30:58. > :31:02.traditional lead off man for the Jamaican relay team. Not quite as
:31:02. > :31:09.easy a style as we saw in the first heat and this is Ifrish Alberg
:31:09. > :31:19.going, going... Gone. Came through the preliminary round to it through
:31:19. > :31:23.
:31:23. > :31:28.to the first round. He would have for you. The first three again going
:31:28. > :31:33.through automatically from each heat and Yoshihide Kiryu was just run out
:31:33. > :31:39.of it, he is capable of better than 10.31. But I am not sure that will
:31:39. > :31:42.be the fastest to go through. But Nesta Carter, Churandy Martina and
:31:42. > :31:46.Gavin Smellie go through to the next round.
:31:46. > :31:51.GABBY LOGAN: Usain Bolt is in the seventh heat which means it is just
:31:51. > :31:55.about time for him to enter the arena. Everybody is falling? Was
:31:55. > :32:05.that a trip? Causes a bit of merriment there. I do not think it
:32:05. > :32:05.
:32:05. > :32:10.men in the world at the moment. Supreme out of the blocks, as
:32:10. > :32:15.always. He is known for fast starting and he did what he came to
:32:15. > :32:22.do. Nice, high into his running. Great relaxation from here on in. I
:32:22. > :32:28.think it was a really good race. With Churandy Martina from the
:32:28. > :32:33.Netherlands coming through as well. He can sneak in and take the medals,
:32:33. > :32:37.he is always there or thereabouts. You sometimes forget about him but
:32:37. > :32:47.it was great to see him doing what he's doing here. The next heat, the
:32:47. > :32:51.
:32:51. > :32:55.third heat sees the first of our COMMENTATOR: Dwain Chambers will go
:32:55. > :32:59.in lane number three. This was a tough one for him because you go
:32:59. > :33:07.into this and he ran very well at the UK Championships with James
:33:07. > :33:13.Dasaolu pulling out of the final. But he has got Justin Gatlin on his
:33:13. > :33:22.fireside and also Antoine Adams and Keston Bledman. These two men are
:33:22. > :33:26.certainly good enough to be tough for him to get in front of. It is
:33:26. > :33:36.important for him to run a good time. I think you will need to be
:33:36. > :33:50.
:33:50. > :33:54.associated with the wrong headlines at times in their career, Justin
:33:54. > :33:58.Gatlin maybe more so than Dwain Chambers, and Keston Bledman, you
:33:59. > :34:03.will be getting the headlines tomorrow as far as drugs are
:34:03. > :34:09.concerned. The bronze medallist from the World Championships two years
:34:09. > :34:13.ago, sent home after a positive test announced for another athlete. And
:34:13. > :34:18.Justin Gatlin, two bands and even though he is the best of all, the
:34:18. > :34:25.American champion and still reasonably popular among many of his
:34:25. > :34:32.compatriots. If Bolt were to trip metaphorically... You would hope
:34:32. > :34:35.metaphorically, then if Justin Gatlin were to be coming wave with
:34:35. > :34:45.the world title, I am not sure that would be the best title world
:34:45. > :35:17.
:35:17. > :35:24.athletics. Idrissa Adam of Cameroon Bledman and then Dwain Chambers. Ten
:35:24. > :35:30.flat. Impressive, in the way that Justin Gatlin can always be. The
:35:30. > :35:35.point I made earlier, if you do not have the preliminary round, they
:35:35. > :35:42.have got to come out at the firing guns, there is not too much room for
:35:42. > :35:45.being slack out of the blocks. Everybody getting a good start,
:35:46. > :35:49.particularly Keston Bledman and Chambers did well to get in the top
:35:49. > :35:59.three there. Still waiting for somebody to dip below ten seconds
:35:59. > :36:00.
:36:01. > :36:06.but that has been rounded down to 9.99 now. The head of Gatlin down
:36:06. > :36:16.and then comes a pen drives. A good run from Chambers. Keston Bledman,
:36:16. > :36:17.
:36:17. > :36:22.Gatlin and Chambers going through will -- going through. Not much
:36:22. > :36:28.easing off from any of the athlete so far. He is all power, he gets up
:36:28. > :36:34.reasonably well and then he is driving through. And he does not let
:36:34. > :36:40.up. He knows this is a tough heat, he has just run 9.99, another
:36:40. > :36:44.stadium record. The first ever sub ten second clock time anywhere in
:36:44. > :36:51.Russia, I am told so a bit of history. It would have to be an
:36:51. > :37:00.American, wouldn't it? Gatlin and Keston Bledman just a hard ahead of
:37:00. > :37:10.Dwain Chambers. Antoine Adams... Thus not just a tiny bit ahead of
:37:10. > :37:10.
:37:10. > :37:18.Dwain Chambers. There is confirmation. And when Chambers
:37:18. > :37:25.through to the next round, 10.14. good time and Dwain Chambers safely
:37:25. > :37:33.through. You got going and you are through to the next round. How was
:37:33. > :37:39.that? It is always nerve wracking in the first round. I think I will get
:37:39. > :37:44.used to it, but I don't. It gets harder and harder and the
:37:44. > :37:50.competition gets stiffer. But I am glad to have been here and I am
:37:50. > :37:57.through to the next round. semifinals tomorrow will be tough
:37:57. > :38:07.but you can call an old experience? Definitely. I wish I had youth on my
:38:07. > :38:07.
:38:07. > :38:17.side. And the Kim Collins factor, maybe? Yes, it is an fortunate he is
:38:17. > :38:22.
:38:22. > :38:27.not here so I am trying to fly the to 1999, he got a bronze there. He
:38:27. > :38:34.has had a long and in some ways troublesome career, Dwain Chambers.
:38:34. > :38:44.But that man there is, arguably, the big hope for us in the 100m, James
:38:44. > :38:46.
:38:47. > :38:52.Dasaolu. COLIN JACKSON: Yes. We saw him with that astonishing 9.91. We
:38:52. > :39:01.knew he had the potential to go under ten seconds and now he has
:39:01. > :39:10.done that. Perhaps not testing in this specific race that it is about
:39:10. > :39:20.the three races it will take. LEWIS: Yes, it is whether I can
:39:20. > :39:28.
:39:29. > :39:37.problems. This is no foregone conclusion. He is quickest on paper
:39:37. > :39:45.but there are athletes who could test him. Several are very capable.
:39:45. > :39:52.This will be no stroll. This is about converting the one-off runs
:39:52. > :39:59.into the semifinal, the final, doing it round after round. That question
:39:59. > :40:05.still remains even in this magical season he has had. There is far more
:40:05. > :40:11.to sprinting. The psychology of it as well. You have to look at someone
:40:11. > :40:21.like Asafa Powell. There was bad news but he achieved in major
:40:21. > :40:26.
:40:26. > :40:36.championships. Lots of sprinters who can run a one-off race. There is the
:40:36. > :40:36.
:40:36. > :40:46.Chinese record-holder. Also Jason Rogers. They talked about the
:40:46. > :41:04.
:41:04. > :41:14.the next three fastest qualifiers go through to tomorrow's semifinals.
:41:14. > :41:15.
:41:15. > :41:25.That is Dasaolu in lane two. Dimitrov, the talented Bulgarian, is
:41:25. > :41:28.
:41:28. > :41:38.in six. Shernyl Burns is in eight and on the outside, Jason Rogers.
:41:38. > :41:39.
:41:39. > :41:49.The fort-macro heat of the men's 100m. -- the fourth heat of the
:41:49. > :42:22.
:42:22. > :42:30.Dasaolu thinking? What was he feeling? Because if he has bot
:42:30. > :42:35.through, it is only by the skin of his teeth. It was art. He started
:42:35. > :42:42.OK, a little gingerly for me. -- it was strange. This was good,
:42:42. > :42:46.accelerating. We saw him move away at that point but then Zhang, the
:42:46. > :42:54.Chinese athlete, doing so well, moves away. And then he uses of on
:42:54. > :43:00.the line, said that is going to be very -- he eases off on the line, so
:43:00. > :43:08.that is going to be a very close photo finish. He eases hack. I think
:43:08. > :43:13.he might have lost that. He has lost the third position, I can tell you.
:43:13. > :43:19.He'd left the blocks not too bad. We know he has been having a bit of a
:43:19. > :43:24.problem with the growing region and that does not help, but in the last
:43:24. > :43:29.part of the race, he has got to do better than that. Forget fitness,
:43:29. > :43:36.you just have to run through the line. He might be all right if he is
:43:36. > :43:40.lucky. He has another couple of races to go. At the moment he is a
:43:40. > :43:48.second-fastest of the fastest losers. He is going to have to cross
:43:48. > :43:57.his fingers. He will not like that picture. He does not get the
:43:57. > :44:07.automatic qualification. He will automatic qualification. It looks
:44:07. > :44:13.like you will still get through but lesson learned? Yes. I just used the
:44:13. > :44:17.round to hopefully build on this tomorrow. Did you give a glance to
:44:17. > :44:23.the screen and think you are through? Yes, I thought I had the
:44:23. > :44:28.third spot but I will just have to wait and see. And how is your body,
:44:28. > :44:34.because I know this is your first race since that 99.1 in Birmingham?
:44:34. > :44:44.Wood-mac I have not been able to do much training. -- I have not been
:44:44. > :44:49.
:44:49. > :44:59.costly place to learn a lesson but there are three heats to go,
:44:59. > :45:07.
:45:07. > :45:14.although he is in pole position in lack of experience? I don't know.
:45:14. > :45:18.When he got to about 50m, 60m on the track, I thought maybe he was hurt.
:45:18. > :45:28.Sometimes you come out of the blocks and it takes a little while before
:45:28. > :45:28.
:45:28. > :45:35.you can identify what might be an quite smooth but then he started to
:45:35. > :45:42.go backwards. And there is a very immature attitude at the line where
:45:42. > :45:47.you are not driving for the line, you are not upright, but leaning. He
:45:47. > :45:51.does worry me a little bit. But let's hope that it is just about
:45:51. > :45:58.lack of dynamic racing. The preparation camp in Barcelona would
:45:58. > :46:04.have been about working on speed. And it is a difficult championships
:46:04. > :46:11.to come into to try things out. You need a sense of consistent work,
:46:11. > :46:15.building off the potential you have. If it is true, the two weeks has
:46:15. > :46:19.been a real struggle for him and he has not had the opportunity to run,
:46:19. > :46:25.you can see why this was difficult for him. You have to keep competing
:46:25. > :46:28.at the highest bubble and if you have missed a lot of that it will be
:46:28. > :46:36.difficult. We know that there are many athletes here who can run
:46:36. > :46:41.between that 99.5, 10.0 mark. He is really going to leave it to the luck
:46:41. > :46:44.of the gods as to which race he's going to be in. All we can say is
:46:44. > :46:54.that it will be a tough one and that restricts his possibility of getting
:46:54. > :46:57.
:46:57. > :47:02.through to the final which would be it all. He was so upright and you
:47:02. > :47:07.could see everybody else dipping for the line. The last 10m he just
:47:07. > :47:13.seemed to walk in. He said in the interview he thought he had done
:47:13. > :47:19.enough. He thought he was the third qualifier there. But you cannot do
:47:19. > :47:24.that at the World Championships. You have to keep working. Very basic
:47:24. > :47:30.rule for sprinting, you read through the line. Let's hope it does not
:47:30. > :47:35.cost him. If it is about building up through the Championship, we want to
:47:35. > :47:45.see what he has got in the semifinals. Heat five. We have
:47:45. > :47:54.
:47:54. > :48:04.another vast European in this, Jimmy good races this year. He was third
:48:04. > :48:04.
:48:04. > :48:10.in the American Championships. Brednev is the Russian champion. He
:48:10. > :48:13.had to run this morning because he had not run 10.21. That was the
:48:13. > :48:20.these standard set for these championships and anyone who had not
:48:20. > :48:26.got that had to go and read this morning. What about for Charles
:48:26. > :48:36.Silmon, the American, in lane fall. In between them we have Jermaine
:48:36. > :49:12.
:49:12. > :49:22.stadium. I am not exactly sure what the end there. He still hung on to
:49:22. > :49:27.
:49:27. > :49:35.the third spot. -- Francis. Jimmy Vicaut, fine. Francis looks hurt. I
:49:35. > :49:42.think overall, also good news perhaps for Dasaolu because I
:49:42. > :49:46.suspect number four was not quicker than him. Yes, it was very crowded
:49:46. > :49:51.behind so we will keep an eye on that. Jimmy Vicaut goes from
:49:51. > :49:58.strength to strength this season. He won the indoor championships at the
:49:58. > :50:07.start of the year. He is a very talented 100m runner. He is making
:50:07. > :50:12.forays into the 200m as well now. Francis definitely pulls up. Silmon
:50:12. > :50:18.absolutely awful, to be honest. He does not even looked like a man who
:50:18. > :50:25.runs ten seconds to me. The good news is, Rodriguez running 10.23 in
:50:25. > :50:35.fourth place. Jimmy Vicaut is still a young man but looks much older
:50:35. > :50:45.than his years. He was easing down. Jimmy Vicaut looked very comfortable
:50:45. > :50:56.
:50:56. > :51:01.indeed. He is still just 21. Better filling out, Jimmy Vicaut and joined
:51:01. > :51:07.by Aaron Brown but will Samuel Francis be fit enough to come back
:51:07. > :51:13.tomorrow? At the moment James Dasaolu is still in the quickest
:51:13. > :51:17.loser spot with two races to come. GABBY LOGAN: Things looking better
:51:18. > :51:23.for James Dasaolu, Harry AA will be looking to this and hoping he won't
:51:23. > :51:31.have to rely on that but he is in a tough heat. The baby faced assassin
:51:31. > :51:36.from Jamaica, Nickel Ashmeade is alongside him. And also Mike Rodgers
:51:36. > :51:42.as well. I remember having a word with Harry earlier this season and
:51:42. > :51:47.isn't it about time that he had a rethink about your time? And of
:51:47. > :51:50.course, he's coming into this season with this 10.08 and that has filled
:51:50. > :51:54.him with far more confidence I think you will go to this race thinking
:51:54. > :51:58.that he can qualify for this out right and I have no doubt he will do
:51:58. > :52:01.that but the Jamaicans, they can produce printers left right and
:52:02. > :52:11.centre and Nickel Ashmeade, I have seen him run on occasions and he is
:52:11. > :52:15.half decent! He will go well here! As well as individuals, we have got
:52:15. > :52:21.an eye on these guys as a relay quartet of looking at what they can
:52:21. > :52:26.do. It could be a surprise medal but we want them to be going well first
:52:26. > :52:29.of all as individuals in the 100 metres. Absolutely and we have been
:52:29. > :52:32.critical in the past that our athletes are probably running for
:52:32. > :52:38.the relay spot when we want them to be out and out quality in the
:52:38. > :52:43.individual places that they enter. Harry has had a difficult couple of
:52:43. > :52:47.years with fitness and getting quite the style that we would want to see
:52:47. > :52:55.him but finally, a new personal best, 10.08, he is feeling confident
:52:55. > :53:00.and looking good. There is Usain Bolt, he is entering the arena, the
:53:00. > :53:03.final heat is his, quite literally, when you look at the line-up, I
:53:03. > :53:11.can't see anything else going on but all eyes will be an Usain Bolt for
:53:11. > :53:14.that one. The cameras are out, the fans are waving and he is lapping up
:53:14. > :53:19.his first race of these championships but let's go back to
:53:19. > :53:25.heat six would-be commentators, British eyes on Harry AA. Yes, Usain
:53:25. > :53:33.Bolt to come in the next heat but as well as the enormous Visigoth Harry
:53:33. > :53:39.Aikines Aryeetey, with someone like the Jamaican alongside him -- as
:53:39. > :53:46.well as the enormous physique of Harry Aikines Aryeetey. We were
:53:46. > :53:50.talking about the young promise of the Japanese athlete he was running
:53:50. > :53:56.against. He has lowered his personal best for the first time in five
:53:56. > :54:01.years this year, Harry. Finally making progress. He has been
:54:01. > :54:04.hampered by hamstring injuries over the intervening years. Up against it
:54:04. > :54:09.here, no doubt about that because only three go through and then the
:54:09. > :54:13.next three fastest to the semifinals, a reminder that James
:54:13. > :54:23.Dasaolu after his strange finish to his heat is in pole position for one
:54:23. > :54:28.
:54:28. > :54:37.of those places and just this heat activity off to my left in the
:54:37. > :54:41.dignitaries' box. I think that the headman himself, Vladimir Putin, his
:54:41. > :54:49.arrival is imminent. The opening ceremony taken place after the
:54:49. > :54:54.events tonight but the line-up here, Nesta Carter in the third... Sorry,
:54:54. > :55:04.I am looking at the wrong line-up. Getting carried away with myself. I
:55:04. > :55:15.
:55:15. > :55:22.qualifying this morning, he is in lane number seven. Ogho-Oghene
:55:22. > :55:32.Egwero in the final line. Nickel Ashmeade and Mike Rodgers, the men
:55:32. > :55:33.
:55:33. > :55:41.to beat here. Bingtian Su the China athlete, my tussling to offer in
:55:41. > :55:51.lane three. -- might have something to offer. Settling into the blocks
:55:51. > :55:58.
:55:58. > :56:01.for the sixth heat of the men's 100 Mike Rodgers coming through
:56:02. > :56:11.strongly. The American will take it from Nickel Ashmeade and he comes
:56:12. > :56:12.
:56:12. > :56:16.Moukheld Al-Outaibi, -- here comes Aikines-Aryeetey. Getting quicker
:56:16. > :56:21.and quicker as we go along but a fairly strong finish from Mike
:56:21. > :56:26.Rodgers. The man who finished fourth in the US trials but after a fall of
:56:27. > :56:35.Tyson Gay, was promoted. Harry Aikines Aryeetey, he might have been
:56:35. > :56:37.fourth place, but we shall see. A quick race. Tight for all sorts of
:56:37. > :56:42.reasons. James Dasaolu will be watching this as well, impressive
:56:42. > :56:50.from Mike Rodgers. I think Harry might have got there. It will be
:56:50. > :56:55.tight because the clock but we're watching for, Harry finishes
:56:55. > :57:00.strongly. He is looking across. The pink body-line, close, favouring
:57:00. > :57:07.this side, you would save he got there in the end but it is being
:57:07. > :57:14.looked at by the... It has been given, the same time for the two of
:57:14. > :57:24.them puts James Dasaolu is now the third fastest loser after the finish
:57:24. > :57:29.
:57:29. > :57:36.from Beantown soon. -- from Bingtian impressive, I am not sure there is
:57:36. > :57:41.much more to come through from him but Harry is three. It was not quite
:57:41. > :57:50.in the style of James Dasaolu, the finish but Harry gets it in the
:57:50. > :57:59.finest of margins. Confirmation of 10.16 from Bingtian Su. Let's hear
:57:59. > :58:04.The dip at the end there, the upper body work-out got you through.
:58:04. > :58:12.happy, I am grateful and obviously it is a bit of relief to get through
:58:12. > :58:17.the round and it should blow out the cobwebs. It's a great stadium, it is
:58:17. > :58:24.I have got to get ready for the next round and bring more fire. Special
:58:25. > :58:28.memories for United fans, tell me about... Dwayne has talked about his
:58:28. > :58:32.experience but you have come on in the last year and made the team, how
:58:33. > :58:36.was it for you? It is awesome, it killed me not making the team last
:58:36. > :58:40.year, and the season I had, but I have to be thankful for the double
:58:40. > :58:45.people who are around me. A new coach this year and to see the
:58:45. > :58:48.improvements I have had, I am back in the mix and if I can put together
:58:48. > :58:52.a decent race... That was a bit tentative, I did not want a bit
:58:52. > :58:56.tentative, I did not want. But I have got to give it my all tomorrow
:58:56. > :59:01.but I am just excited. May be a new personal best tomorrow? Yes, I have
:59:01. > :59:07.got to beat some of these guys and I want to set personal bests but I
:59:07. > :59:10.have to keep improving. Collider say one thing? It is my sister's
:59:10. > :59:14.traditional engagement today so sorry I can't make it, I love you
:59:14. > :59:19.loads, I hope you have a nice day. Thank you.
:59:19. > :59:25.GABBY LOGAN: Lovely message, Harry! We will discuss Harry's dancing
:59:25. > :59:30.pectorals later on. What a fantastic upper body! Let's move on because
:59:30. > :59:35.Usain Bolt is out and about and that is why all the photographers -
:59:35. > :59:41.literally every photographer had gone to one side of the stadium. It
:59:41. > :59:45.is only the heats, guys! Why not have it three times over? The
:59:45. > :59:49.anniversary games, it was the same. We just marvel at that moment before
:59:49. > :59:55.the gun goes, the stadium just erupts in light. Everybody wants
:59:55. > :00:00.that shot of Usain driving out, walking in, smiling, whatever he is
:00:00. > :00:06.doing, he is the man of the moment. The man of our times of track and
:00:06. > :00:10.field and we adore him. We like him here. He is a big global sporting
:00:10. > :00:14.superstar. An icon and that is what makes him the interest and we are
:00:14. > :00:20.lucky that we have him in our sport because he brings some positive
:00:20. > :00:25.attention to our sport. Absolutely, and he also has something in the
:00:25. > :00:31.back of his mind, things did not go so well back in Daegu, the dramatic
:00:31. > :00:34.false start. He has won Olympic gold since then several times over but it
:00:34. > :00:39.must be a reminder in the back of his head that he is not the
:00:39. > :00:45.defending world champion. Perhaps. He will want that title. He deserves
:00:45. > :00:48.that title but he is here to entertain and when, let's see what
:00:48. > :00:58.he can do. I don't think the competition will trouble him too
:00:58. > :01:01.much but we will enjoy watching it, COMMENTATOR: His main opposition is
:01:02. > :01:11.the starter, let's not forget two years ago. I am sure he has not
:01:12. > :01:15.
:01:15. > :01:18.come from? It is very loud. Incidentally, we will be having the
:01:18. > :01:27.ceremony for the 10,000 metres with Mo Farah getting his medal and then
:01:27. > :01:30.the opening ceremony of the games follows that, bizarrely enough. I
:01:30. > :01:33.wonder if Usain Bolt will hang around because once he gets this
:01:33. > :01:42.race done, he will do some interviews and then will be thinking
:01:42. > :01:47.of tomorrow, I am pretty sure. He is the star of the show, of course and
:01:47. > :01:51.Kemar Hyman from the Cayman Islands next to him. He will have to
:01:51. > :02:01.concentrate, all the athletes will. Some youngsters will be finding this
:02:01. > :02:28.
:02:28. > :02:38.and in the three fastest loser spot, the third spot at the moment
:02:38. > :02:42.held by them James Dasaolu, 10.207 as long as the slowest athlete long
:02:42. > :02:52.as long as he is not beaten, he will go through. A huge amount of noise
:02:52. > :03:01.
:03:01. > :03:10.to Bob. I said he looked nervous. Don't worry, it was not bolt -- next
:03:10. > :03:18.to Usain Bolt. People will be going, what, what? But it was Kemar Hyman,
:03:18. > :03:27.wasn't it? Steve, he would be a challenger if he is to be spells, he
:03:27. > :03:34.would have been a challenger to the fastest man. We are looking out to
:03:34. > :03:40.James Dasaolu but possibly the second quickest in this race was
:03:40. > :03:43.Kemar Hyman. From a British perspective, with him leaving, he is
:03:43. > :03:48.not even waiting to receive the card, you are not supposed to, but
:03:48. > :03:57.if you know you have been having a false start, he has walked. He has
:03:57. > :04:01.not waited for the umpire's finger. The way he goes. It has made Usain
:04:01. > :04:05.Bolt's job easier but I think it would be comfortable enough anyway.
:04:05. > :04:10.As far as British interests are concerned, Kemar Hyman being
:04:11. > :04:20.disqualified for the false start gives an extra chance for James
:04:21. > :04:23.
:04:23. > :04:32.Dasaolu as one of the quickest bolt at the start line, a raise of
:04:32. > :04:37.the eyebrows, not much more. So Rondel Sorrillo and then we have got
:04:37. > :04:47.rimming Gittings, Hua Wilfried Koffi, Ryota Yamagata and Anaso
:04:47. > :05:00.
:05:00. > :05:05.metres. Verse three to go through. -- first three. Safely away this
:05:05. > :05:08.time, not the best start from that macro bolt. Stepping through the
:05:08. > :05:15.gears now because he eases into the first, it will be tied for second
:05:15. > :05:25.place, Jobodwana certainly getting there. So the top three will have to
:05:25. > :05:30.be sorted out and they gave him an easy heap... I say that, obviously
:05:31. > :05:36.it is drawn. But it was a fairly easy, comfortable heat and he had
:05:36. > :05:46.did what he had to do, no more. After what happened to Kemar Hyman
:05:46. > :05:49.
:05:49. > :05:59.and what happened to himself two years ago. I think James Dasaolu...
:05:59. > :05:59.
:06:00. > :06:05.It will be close. Very close. Andrew and I are just looking at the
:06:05. > :06:11.computer. You look at Bolt and I will let the guys analyse that. Not
:06:11. > :06:21.sure there is a lot to analyse. He just did what he had to do. There
:06:21. > :06:25.
:06:25. > :06:35.were times of 10.07... And the times mean that James Dasaolu will go
:06:35. > :06:41.
:06:41. > :06:49.through as the fastest loser by here running. Just to be out here.
:06:49. > :06:56.When the full is done -- when the false start gun went off, did your
:06:56. > :07:06.heart skip a beat? Rae no. B final tomorrow. Are you confident you will
:07:06. > :07:12.
:07:12. > :07:22.take care of Disney's? It was early end. -- are you confident you will
:07:22. > :07:30.
:07:30. > :07:35.take care of business? It was He did not even get a record on
:07:35. > :07:45.Russian soil. A pretty poor performance. Rodgers will take out
:07:45. > :07:45.
:07:45. > :07:55.home. So... Gittens may be surprisingly getting in there with
:07:55. > :07:58.
:07:58. > :08:02.10.19. The Japanese sprinter just missing out with 10.21. The British
:08:02. > :08:10.sprinter James Dasaolu will be in the 100m final tomorrow. Just to
:08:10. > :08:15.underline that ointment by Hyman, had he not been disqualified,
:08:16. > :08:22.Dasaolu is likely not to have made it through. But as it is he
:08:23. > :08:32.qualifies. Bailey Cole will join Bolt and Carter for the Jamaican
:08:33. > :08:35.
:08:35. > :08:45.team. The three fastest qualifiers will include James Dasaolu with that
:08:45. > :08:52.
:08:52. > :08:57.10.20. I am sure he will not do that three of our 100m sprinters are
:08:57. > :09:04.safely through but it was a little nervy their! You made that point
:09:04. > :09:10.about Hyman, that it was likely he would have been one of the fastest.
:09:10. > :09:20.Yes. But this is what the Championships is about. You have a
:09:20. > :09:23.
:09:23. > :09:28.world next to you so you can imagine he is a little bit edgy. And you
:09:28. > :09:36.cannot afford to be edgy. The noise behind as signals the second medals
:09:36. > :09:41.ceremony of the date and it is one that we want to take in, Mo Farah's
:09:41. > :09:47.10,000m victory. COMMENTATOR: He is getting used to
:09:47. > :09:53.this now. It does not make it any less sweet a moment. Medals
:09:53. > :10:03.ceremonies are what athletes crave for, the reason they want to get
:10:03. > :10:07.
:10:07. > :10:12.involved, they want to get an opening ceremony will stop I am sure
:10:12. > :10:22.somebody -- for the opening ceremony. I am sure somebody will
:10:22. > :10:26.
:10:26. > :10:35.whisper in his ear, by the way, Mo delighted that this band got on to
:10:35. > :10:44.the rostrum. They came here... -- I am sure the Kenyan 's will be
:10:44. > :10:51.delighted that this man got on to the rostrum. It has been an
:10:51. > :11:01.Ethiopian -owned title for so long. Not any more, though. This man was
:11:01. > :11:05.the 10,000m champion last time. Ibrahim Jeilan. He defended lately.
:11:05. > :11:10.He did not look into much good form at the beginning of this season that
:11:11. > :11:14.this was his best race of the year. He saved his best for last. Just for
:11:14. > :11:23.a moment as they came into the home straight, we thought, here we go
:11:23. > :11:29.again. Whereas two years ago he was able to run down Mo Farah. Farah is
:11:29. > :11:34.a different athlete now, a double Olympic champion. Now the world
:11:34. > :11:41.champion at 10,000m as well as the Olympic champion.
:11:41. > :11:46.CHEERING AND APPLAUSE There were moments in that last 200m
:11:46. > :11:52.when you just thought, maybe it is not going to happen.
:11:52. > :11:57.And then that familiar charge came and that familiar grimace, really.
:11:57. > :12:04.We did not get the Mobot. There was not time for that. As he said in his
:12:04. > :12:14.interview, he had to run right to the line. Mo Farah's fourth global
:12:14. > :12:14.
:12:14. > :13:00.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 69 seconds
:13:00. > :13:09.CHEERING AND APPLAUSE Finally a smile, and applause from
:13:09. > :13:12.some very important people. Mo Farah is the most important person here
:13:12. > :13:19.certainly as far as British athletics is concerned. They said
:13:19. > :13:29.they wanted to get the team off to a good start. It is not his
:13:29. > :13:36.
:13:36. > :13:46.responsibility to look after them world. We have had to wait a while
:13:46. > :13:52.
:13:52. > :14:00.keeps doing this, it won't be long before he comes to be one of the
:14:00. > :14:05.all-time greats of distance running. He is doing pretty well so far.
:14:05. > :14:08.GABBY LOGAN: We should never, ever taking for granted. He is now
:14:09. > :14:12.beginning to make success look easy but anyone who knows anything about
:14:12. > :14:17.how hard the trains knows that this year, even more than last year, he
:14:17. > :14:24.has pushed himself to the limits and this is just the first half of what
:14:24. > :14:33.he hopes will be a double gold medal haul here in Moscow. This will taste
:14:33. > :14:42.sweet after Jeilan there, the man with the silver, managed to
:14:43. > :14:48.outsprint him. Mo is enjoying the moment. His family are here. They
:14:48. > :14:54.are enjoying it, too. The time spent away all feels pretty good night
:14:54. > :14:59.without gold medal. There is his wife in the stand. More nerves to
:14:59. > :15:05.expend in the week as the 5k approaches as well. I am not sure if
:15:05. > :15:10.you saw the people behind Mo setting up. There will be an opening
:15:11. > :15:16.ceremony. There is his little girl, who has come on to enjoy the moment
:15:16. > :15:24.as well. She has probably been asking for a year, why didn't I get
:15:24. > :15:27.in on the action. Paula has rejoined us here in the studio. She has the
:15:28. > :15:33.medal around her neck as well. If you were out earlier on and you
:15:33. > :15:43.missed Mo iss magical 10k moment, here are the last three laps for
:15:43. > :15:49.
:15:49. > :15:57.then Merga not too far away. And Mo Farah where he wants to be,
:15:57. > :16:03.controlling it. He is the boss. boss has to control it now. He has
:16:03. > :16:09.to hold his position. His confidence must be sky-high. They have not
:16:09. > :16:16.really tested him, and that was only a 66 second lap so really he not
:16:17. > :16:23.hurting at all. As they go onto the back straight, Mo Farah begins to
:16:23. > :16:30.control this race like the champion we know he is. Muchiri is a bit of a
:16:30. > :16:37.challenge. Rupp, his team mate, is a bit of a challenge. Ritzenhein takes
:16:37. > :16:42.over, to newly follows him. And Mo, you have got to be a little careful
:16:42. > :16:48.here. You need to be just a bit tighter on those athletes because we
:16:48. > :16:56.are now getting into an area where the sprinters can take over, and Mo
:16:56. > :17:04.is a sprinter. Now he has 800m to go. Rupp and Mo Farah, the training
:17:04. > :17:11.partners, strike out. Mo can win it from here. Two to go. Where he wants
:17:11. > :17:15.to be, in the front. He has Rupp there but he is not on his
:17:15. > :17:22.shoulder. He was meant to be on his shoulder to protect him that he
:17:22. > :17:29.cannot do it. Jeilan, the defending champion, is there. Mo Farah is
:17:29. > :17:34.looking for Rupp on his training partner, his friend, he wants him on
:17:34. > :17:38.his shoulder. And he has him there with 600m to go. He has to
:17:38. > :17:48.concentrate on his own running now. He has been joined right his
:17:48. > :17:49.
:17:49. > :17:55.training partner Galen Rupp but Mo Farah... Tanui on the inside. Mo has
:17:55. > :18:01.got to be aware of it. He is in the position. We have seen you do it all
:18:01. > :18:11.year. We have seen you sprint on the last lap. Now let's see you do it.
:18:11. > :18:18.The bell sounds. 26: 27. He has to grab this challenge. He is fast
:18:18. > :18:25.enough, he is strong enough. He has two more opportunities down the back
:18:25. > :18:30.straight, on the top end. Tanui with him. Now, Mo Farah, let's show us
:18:30. > :18:35.the speed you have shown us all season. And here comes Jeilan, the
:18:35. > :18:45.defending champion. Jeilan, who won it last time, who hit him on the
:18:45. > :18:58.
:18:58. > :19:05.home straight. The threat has not Farah. He is the world champion.
:19:05. > :19:11.Gold once more. It was hard, it was tough. It was meant to be easy and
:19:11. > :19:18.it wasn't stopped it was meant to be a smooth last lap when he turned on
:19:18. > :19:28.the burners and he did it but they were all still there. Mo Farah. His
:19:28. > :19:34.
:19:34. > :19:38.third global gold medal. He has done the Bolt in the 10,000m. A moment
:19:38. > :19:46.that Paula Radcliffe, who has rejoined us, absolutely savoured.
:19:46. > :19:52.And I am sure that you also enjoyed it, as a sprinter. Yes. Mo is
:19:53. > :19:59.cementing his legacy by continuing to win titles. Now he needs to
:19:59. > :20:04.motivate himself and said other golds do great things. He's awesome.
:20:04. > :20:09.Yes, there was certainly no post Olympic slump for him. Setting
:20:09. > :20:13.himself new goals. It is really to be admired as we discussed it
:20:13. > :20:16.earlier on, how hard those post Olympic years can be anyway. But
:20:16. > :20:25.when you have that burden of being a double champion, how you use it
:20:25. > :20:30.determines your greatness. Yes, and it depends. You can go on a roll
:20:30. > :20:35.with the increased confidence and really performed the next year. You
:20:35. > :20:40.can come in a little bit fatigued. That is what we have seen with Jess.
:20:40. > :20:42.And the other side of it is someone who has not performed in the
:20:42. > :20:48.Olympics and then has come back with a vengeance because they have
:20:48. > :20:54.something to prove the next year. Mo has come back in better shape as he
:20:54. > :20:59.has trained through the winter. And he believes he can get in better
:20:59. > :21:02.shape. The others are scared of him. The noise, if you are hearing it, is
:21:02. > :21:09.the beginning of the opening ceremony. President Putin arrived
:21:09. > :21:15.just before the medal ceremony. He has arrived in time because he is
:21:15. > :21:20.particularly interested in the opening ceremony. Nothing much going
:21:20. > :21:26.on at the moment, certainly no Danny Boyle -style party. Not much more
:21:26. > :21:36.unbacked to tell you. Can we talk briefly about the 5k? What you saw
:21:36. > :21:39.
:21:39. > :21:45.today, where does that fit in the market is he the favourite? He is
:21:45. > :21:53.definitely the favourite going into it. He wanted to tackle the 10k, the
:21:53. > :21:56.one he did not get before. His last laps were 60 and 54. It takes a lot
:21:56. > :22:00.out of you, especially with the humid conditions and the pushing and
:22:00. > :22:06.shoving in the race, but he got been sold he wanted. That is a big plus,
:22:06. > :22:10.two, because he got what he wanted. He will have done all of the
:22:10. > :22:17.recovery things that he wanted to do. I think he will bounce back OK
:22:17. > :22:21.but he will be feeling the recovery job tomorrow. Let's move it on and
:22:21. > :22:31.talk about sprinting. As you are here, we will make use off your pass
:22:31. > :22:36.
:22:36. > :22:46.butties. First of all, Mr Usain Bolt. Mr Bolt is Mr Bolt. You looked
:22:46. > :22:48.
:22:48. > :22:54.great. I thought he would just get where it was really going to test
:22:54. > :23:03.him. -- his opponents. You really prepared to be on this stage,
:23:03. > :23:07.suddenly at the Anniversary Games. It is obvious in the first race that
:23:07. > :23:16.I see that he went back, did a little tinkering with this bid and I
:23:16. > :23:26.think he is OK. -- the speed. a nervy moment when the. Gun went
:23:26. > :23:28.
:23:28. > :23:33.off. -- the full is start gun went off. I think he learned his lesson.
:23:33. > :23:39.He is the number-1 sprinter the world. Some of the sprinters out
:23:39. > :23:46.there on your fans, really. The sprinter from the Cayman Islands, I
:23:46. > :23:54.think he realised, this guy beside me I am not close to him. He was
:23:54. > :23:58.just trying to get a flyer and he didn't. A lot of those guys will
:23:59. > :24:04.never get the chance to race in the Diamond League or in the final so
:24:04. > :24:08.your funds are around you, as your competitors. Donovan has experienced
:24:08. > :24:12.it himself, some of the guys around you are trying to do the strides
:24:12. > :24:20.next to you so that the they can say they are on the track next to him
:24:20. > :24:26.which is funny but you feel proud that you are being able to be have
:24:26. > :24:31.fun out there. Justin Gatlin has looked like he could put the
:24:31. > :24:40.pressure on Bolt, what did you see from him that you thought he was in
:24:40. > :24:44.that sort of shape? He has been consistent. He has been on the stage
:24:44. > :24:50.before, he has been Olympic champion, but I was quite surprised
:24:50. > :24:54.because he ran very hard. I did not expect him to get out and
:24:54. > :25:00.essentially be labouring for about 70 metres but I think he is trying
:25:00. > :25:05.to get the kinks out. This is his first heat of the championships and
:25:05. > :25:10.he wants to be as loose as possible as the rounds go on. The man that
:25:10. > :25:17.most impressed me in this entire composition is Jimmy Vicaut who is
:25:17. > :25:23.big, strong and from the top speed perspective, one of the fastest guys
:25:23. > :25:30.running now. And he only dipped under ten seconds this year so he is
:25:30. > :25:35.in the ascent. Absolutely. This is a time and I have sent it to lots of
:25:35. > :25:43.the younger kids competing, this is a place where you can establish it.
:25:43. > :25:48.These men become men. Bolt is the reigning champion and it will not be
:25:48. > :25:56.a surprise to us if he gets a time but there are two other medals and
:25:56. > :25:59.it is important to utilise this very tiny window. There it is a very tiny
:25:59. > :26:08.window of opportunity and they really have to take advantage of
:26:08. > :26:14.this today. One of those people, we were hoping it might be James
:26:14. > :26:17.Dasaolu, at the moment where he ran 9.91, we thought this might be his
:26:17. > :26:22.time. Disappointing the way he ran today. What did you make of the way
:26:22. > :26:32.he finished? First of all, James is an extremely talented athlete.
:26:32. > :26:32.
:26:32. > :26:37.Extremely talented. He is not Ray Sharp at all. He made some terrible
:26:37. > :26:47.technical mistakes coming out of the block and you can see that...
:26:47. > :26:55.Looking at the finish -- he is not race sharp. He cannot look at the TV
:26:55. > :26:59.or the clock but there is an absolute sign of rust from him. Not
:26:59. > :27:07.competing at the British Championships. And look because of
:27:07. > :27:11.the false start from Hyman, that effectively sees him jumping into
:27:11. > :27:15.those fastest loser spots and he has the chance to go again. Sometimes
:27:15. > :27:18.you need a bit of luck in athletics and that was his. Let's hope he
:27:18. > :27:22.doesn't have to draw on it in the next round but I have to say,
:27:22. > :27:26.talking about technique and the rustiness, there was an overhead
:27:26. > :27:29.shot used earlier on looking at James and he seemed to move from
:27:29. > :27:39.left to right all the way down the track which seems a bit
:27:39. > :27:44.disconcerting for me. That is what I am saying, he did not compete at
:27:44. > :27:51.that sort of level but essentially that is race experience because
:27:51. > :27:56.understanding your game and getting your transition, understanding how
:27:56. > :28:01.to get into that out of the blocks. I don't know what speed he was at
:28:01. > :28:07.and I don't want to criticise... are having trouble with your
:28:07. > :28:10.microphone, sorry. Sit still! I can be very bossy sometimes! We want to
:28:10. > :28:20.hear what you are saying because it is important so apologies if you
:28:20. > :28:30.heard that disruption. It is race rust, definitely. I don't know
:28:30. > :28:30.
:28:30. > :28:36.exactly what speed he did but he is still very rusty over the first few
:28:36. > :28:41.metres. With James, he has to set up getting out of the blocks, he is
:28:41. > :28:47.that talented. We will use that for now. We will move onto Christine
:28:47. > :28:53.Ohuruogu. We saw some real talent across the heat and Christine's
:28:53. > :28:58.race, Colin, she did what she had to do and looked very comfortable.
:28:58. > :29:05.will take you on a journey, going on a journey all the time through these
:29:05. > :29:09.championships but in 2006, the, mild games in Melbourne when Darling was
:29:09. > :29:14.the athlete everybody was focusing on, nobody was paying attention to
:29:14. > :29:18.Christine and that is the first time she announced to the world -- the
:29:18. > :29:21.Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. Since then she has been progressing
:29:21. > :29:26.and getting more and more confident at these major games and today,
:29:26. > :29:32.again she ran a very, very conservative first 300 metres as we
:29:32. > :29:40.can expect from Christine and then decided to raise the tempo. It was
:29:40. > :29:46.their big acceleration already drive, it was just an increase in
:29:46. > :29:50.tempo -- it was a big acceleration in drive. I was not expecting to run
:29:50. > :29:56.so quickly so early in these championships and it is wonderful to
:29:56. > :30:01.see. I am really positive that she is going under the 50 second mark
:30:01. > :30:05.when it matters. Where that will take her, who knows? But she is
:30:05. > :30:13.going close to her personal best. If not better. The semifinal tomorrow,
:30:14. > :30:18.for her, Denise? Yes, she made that look so effortless, it is clear she
:30:18. > :30:22.is in the right headspace. She knows she is able to win these
:30:23. > :30:27.championships and he is able to win it but she has a couple of athletes
:30:27. > :30:33.to navigate first so let's see what she does. What is that then,
:30:33. > :30:37.Denise? It looks like a shot put! What is your interpretation of what
:30:37. > :30:42.is going on out there? It is the opening ceremony which they have had
:30:42. > :30:46.at the end of the first day here. There is a great mat which looks
:30:46. > :30:52.like some sort of gymnastics or tumbling might break out on that. A
:30:52. > :30:58.plastic... There is a man. I am no Huw Edwards, am I? There is a
:30:58. > :31:04.plastic spaceship which is above that and the answer to Rowan
:31:04. > :31:11.Atkinson, this is a rip-off, this whole ceremony is a rip-off! I will
:31:11. > :31:16.make my excuses and say was never briefed to read the commentary! But
:31:16. > :31:20.I do do a very good impression of Huw Edwards! Shara Proctor is coming
:31:20. > :31:25.into this with good form and she had a good opportunity, one jump and she
:31:25. > :31:31.did it in first place. Very consistent this year, she has jumped
:31:31. > :31:34.amazingly well. And again, Paula talked about how athletes progress
:31:34. > :31:38.when it has not gone the way you have planned and this is one athlete
:31:38. > :31:44.recovering well from that. She came into this qualification, first jump,
:31:44. > :31:50.clearly over that qualification mark of 6.75 and job done. And we are
:31:51. > :31:55.looking forward to her delivering on her abilities. She has broken the
:31:55. > :32:04.British record, we know she can jump seven metres. Look how far she was
:32:04. > :32:09.from the board. I did long jump in high school, little-known fact! This
:32:09. > :32:15.is someone on a vengeance right now because like Denise said, lots was
:32:15. > :32:19.expected of her in London and that is the motivation after the Olympic
:32:19. > :32:22.Games. And we have someone now who really wants it. We talk about
:32:23. > :32:27.surprise medals and where they might come from, would it be a surprise if
:32:27. > :32:31.she brought one home? Not a huge surprise because she definitely has
:32:31. > :32:37.the ability. It is putting it together with the quality of the
:32:37. > :32:42.other athletes she is up against. You have got Okagbare, she is a
:32:42. > :32:47.seven-metre jumper but also Brittney Reese and she is looking fragile.
:32:47. > :32:56.She was the 12 qualifier in that long jump and this is a girl who has
:32:56. > :33:00.jumped 7.25. They are heavily relying on their space programme.
:33:00. > :33:07.That is my educated guess. Anything else to add, Donovan? What can I
:33:07. > :33:10.say? No! There seems to be a big cannonball, I thought it was a shock
:33:10. > :33:16.but they were dropping from the season but I guess we can enjoy it
:33:16. > :33:20.with a smile. I hope Mr Putin will be enjoying this. He will be here
:33:20. > :33:25.for a while longer. We'll put some highlights on the red button. If
:33:25. > :33:29.there is enough demand! Tomorrow's programme, we are looking forward to
:33:29. > :33:38.Christine and we have got the 100 metres final which will be a real
:33:38. > :33:45.highlight of the whole week. Firstly, my guess, my educated
:33:45. > :33:54.guess... Or if you will put money on it, I am suggesting that Usain Bolt
:33:54. > :33:59.is as an favourite. We will take that! Also for silver and bronze,
:33:59. > :34:04.there is an absolute toss-up. you, Donovan, for joining us, Paula,
