:03:44. > :03:48.missing out of his bag, that world gold medal for the 10,000m. It was a

:03:52. > :03:56.take that victory but we all know the most important thing is the

:04:06. > :04:13.demonstration, he is in such good form, but Jeilan pushed him all the

:04:27. > :04:31.but we have the 5,000 metres and that is where he is the defending
:04:31. > :04:36.champion, so we will be looking forward to that and seeing if he can

:05:00. > :05:04.seem to think he will just keep pulling away from everybody. So it

:05:27. > :05:32.before, faster than any other Brit has been before. Speed is another
:05:32. > :05:36.thing, when you are pushing your whole body past the limits it is
:05:36. > :05:39.usually used to, it can take a lot more out of you. Whether that has
:05:39. > :05:44.made a difference, I am not so sure, but I think we are all
:05:44. > :05:48.relieved that he has got that title. If you have any thoughts on
:05:48. > :05:55.Mo Farah and what he did yesterday, on the screen there, contact us at
:05:56. > :05:59.BBC sport. First up on track today is the men's decathlon high
:05:59. > :06:08.hurdles. Before we get to that race, those heats, let's look back
:06:08. > :06:13.race, those heats, let's look back for the first event of the
:06:13. > :06:18.heptathlon, the 100m. All eyes were on lane six, Ashton Eaton, the world
:06:18. > :06:25.record-holder. And it was Ashton Eaton who sped away. Trey Hardee,
:06:25. > :06:28.three lanes inside him, was the defending champion, but Ashton Eaton
:06:28. > :06:36.showed everybody a clean pair of heels, followed by David Warner of
:06:36. > :06:40.Canada. Then we were onto the long jump. Michael Schrader of Germany,
:06:40. > :06:46.he was figured to medal in this decathlon and certainly showed a
:06:46. > :06:50.clean pair of heels to everybody in the long jump. Again, a score of
:06:50. > :06:56.over 1,000 points. When it came to the shot put, Ashton Eaton was way
:06:56. > :07:00.below par, but 14.39 kept the American at the top. The high jump,
:07:00. > :07:05.it was Gunnar Nixon, his younger team-mate from the United States,
:07:05. > :07:12.just 20 years old and a former world champion at 2.4 teen metres, which
:07:12. > :07:16.took into the top the leaderboard. At the other end of the scale, Trey
:07:16. > :07:20.Hardee had terrible problems. This was his opening height, his third
:07:20. > :07:24.attempt and he failed it and the American would not defend his title
:07:24. > :07:31.successfully, he was out that the caps on. Then it was the final event
:07:31. > :07:38.they want, the gruelling 400m and a to show what a class athlete Ashton
:07:38. > :07:42.Eaton is -- and a chance. Last year in London, he broke the world
:07:42. > :07:45.record, over 9,000 points. He was aiming for a time here which would
:07:46. > :07:53.take him back into the lead. A lead which he only relinquished after the
:07:53. > :07:57.high jump, clearing 1.92. Not a good effort for the young American, but
:07:57. > :08:00.this event was absolutely superb. By the time he came into the home
:08:00. > :08:06.straight, he was miles ahead of anyone else. There was only
:08:06. > :08:12.Behrenbruch of Germany and Damian Warner of Canada who were trying to
:08:12. > :08:16.live with him, but Ashton Eaton sped away from everybody, winning in
:08:16. > :08:21.46:02. Another 1,000 points score and another visit to the top of the
:08:21. > :08:26.leaderboard. Yes, not a bad first day for Ashton
:08:26. > :08:29.Eaton, he will be thinking he will be becoming world champion. We will
:08:29. > :08:39.get out now for the first heat and it is good morning to Steve Cram,
:08:39. > :08:40.
:08:40. > :08:43.Good morning and welcome to the second day of the decathlon and the
:08:43. > :08:48.first event is of course the 110 metres hurdles. Nobody in this
:08:48. > :08:53.line-up with a great chance of challenging for the medals, but the
:08:53. > :09:03.Arnel Suarez, the bronze medallist at the last two Olympic Games, is
:09:03. > :09:18.
:09:18. > :09:27.in the third lane. Suarez trying to come through. And taking this very
:09:27. > :09:34.impressively is Mayer. Look at the time. It looked impressive, but it
:09:34. > :09:41.wasn't necessarily. Mayer was the first to rise, the former world
:09:41. > :09:51.youth and world junior champion, the 21-year-old. This will be the
:09:51. > :09:52.
:09:52. > :10:02.slowest of the four heats. Mayer takes the victory. Confirmation of
:10:02. > :10:03.
:10:03. > :10:06.that. They have rounded down for Kevin Mayer. Suarez, a couple of
:10:06. > :10:16.bronze medals, I mentioned, but not in that kind of form and won't be
:10:16. > :10:16.
:10:17. > :10:20.this year. -- won't be challenging this year.
:10:20. > :10:27.So we move onto heat two, a fascinating confrontation between
:10:27. > :10:31.the world's all-round athlete, that is Eduard Mikhan, a very solid
:10:31. > :10:38.performer, good performances yesterday, lying in 14th place
:10:38. > :10:46.overall. 10.97 he started off with in the 100m yesterday. And his other
:10:46. > :10:56.very best performance was his 400m, the last event, 48 .80. But nobody
:10:56. > :11:13.
:11:13. > :11:19.can live with the pace of Ashton the man that we saw earlier, Eduard
:11:19. > :11:28.Mikhan. This is a Ushiro, who goes in lane three. Lying in 20 Seventh
:11:28. > :11:35.Place at the moment -- 20 Seventh Place. Kame Ali of Madagascar, 14.61
:11:35. > :11:39.is his lifetime best. Van der Plaetsen is ranked 13th at the
:11:39. > :11:49.moment after day one. He finished off yesterday with 49 seconds in the
:11:49. > :11:52.
:11:52. > :11:56.400m. Marcus Nilsson of Sweden, lying in 20 Sixth Place. -- 26th
:11:56. > :12:00.place. These guys battling against themselves, not necessarily their
:12:00. > :12:10.fellow competitors. Eduard Mikhan has a chance of moving into the top
:12:10. > :12:18.ten if he can repeat his lifetime best performance. And Uibo, just 18
:12:18. > :12:25.years old. He had a cracking high jump yesterday, to .11 metres. --
:12:25. > :12:34.2.11. Van der Plaetsen, on paper, one of the better hurdlers, but
:12:35. > :12:41.Eduard Mikhan is the best. Ingmar Vos is a very solid performer. Just
:12:41. > :12:51.having over at the scoring tables, if you wanted to score over 1,000
:12:51. > :12:53.
:12:53. > :12:57.points, you have got to run under 13.8. Well, the clock was blowing
:12:57. > :13:07.away a few cobwebs, it gave us a time originally outside of 15
:13:07. > :13:19.
:13:19. > :13:25.seconds before it was adjusted to 14 did Mikhan. Van der Plaetsen
:13:25. > :13:31.beginning to gain some ground. The Belgian flying. Van der Plaetsen
:13:31. > :13:41.WinZip, Mikhan in second place, Nilsson in third. Slower than the
:13:41. > :13:48.first heat. -- van der Plaetsen winds it. We have a turn of page
:13:48. > :13:52.here on the scoring tables. 886 points, but a bit of fortune for van
:13:52. > :13:57.der Plaetsen. He was under pressure, didn't get away to a
:13:57. > :14:06.particularly good start. It was the Dutchman Ingmar Bosse, who ran a pro
:14:06. > :14:10.400m last night and continued that poor form -- Ingmar Vos. Colin
:14:10. > :14:16.Jackson will have some sympathy for the Dutchman, he stumbled, and van
:14:16. > :14:24.der Plaetsen came storming through the victory. So van der Plaetsen
:14:24. > :14:27.will gain confidence from that run. Lying in 13th position. Wasn't a
:14:27. > :14:37.particularly good time, but he may gain a couple of places by the end
:14:37. > :14:40.
:14:40. > :14:43.of this event. JONATHAN EDWARDS: It is a hard
:14:43. > :14:47.school, no sympathy from Colin school, no sympathy from Colin
:14:47. > :14:51.Jackson! I did have sympathy for the fact that he got up early in the
:14:51. > :14:54.morning to do that performance. Basically, he caught his trailing
:14:54. > :14:58.leg and it caused a bit of a rotation and it took him off
:14:58. > :15:01.balance. When you only have three balance. When you only have three
:15:01. > :15:06.strides until the barrier, that will cause you a problem. He exploded out
:15:06. > :15:09.of the blocks and settled into his rhythm. He clattered one of the
:15:09. > :15:13.middle hurdles, somewhere around four, but don't worry about that,
:15:13. > :15:18.because he is already at a good speed so he can afford to drag it
:15:18. > :15:22.down. It is this hurdle, he comes off it badly and it catches his
:15:22. > :15:25.trail leg, causing him to have a rotation and he ends up falling away
:15:25. > :15:31.from the barrier and when you only have three strides to get to the
:15:31. > :15:37.next one, it is hell. I think the next one, it is hell. I think the
:15:37. > :15:41.accolade from looks like he was getting lactic acid. Going nicely
:15:41. > :15:47.then started to fall apart. They have had a long day yesterday in the
:15:47. > :15:51.heat and then they have to get back up. The most explosive of events,
:15:51. > :15:57.probably. It is a difficult one to start with, because they are
:15:57. > :16:01.barriers, so it is an awful way to do that. Yet you can imagine how
:16:01. > :16:10.frustrated he will be, he has done for five events, has a really good
:16:10. > :16:14.start and that is what happens. So that is his Championships over.
:16:14. > :16:21.terms of the amount of hurdling these athletes would do, how would
:16:21. > :16:24.they apportion that time? We're looking at Ashton Eaton
:16:24. > :16:31.stretching, he is a very good jumper, a very competent hurdler,
:16:31. > :16:36.and he is quite good technically, as well. If you are a natural jumper
:16:36. > :16:41.you can hone your technique over these barriers. These athletes are
:16:41. > :16:45.big, powerful and strong. Long legs help with this. They don't need to
:16:45. > :16:51.worry about the technical aspect because they are so strong they can
:16:51. > :16:58.get over it, they can boulder the way through it, but you need to have
:16:58. > :17:05.some extra finesse. Because the brutes, they don't have that.
:17:05. > :17:13.Ashton -- Ashton Eaton has strength, if you was competing
:17:13. > :17:16.against Daley Thompson, who is a strength based athlete... Yes, he is
:17:16. > :17:20.tall, so the hurdles lick small to him.
:17:20. > :17:26.Someone like Daley Thompson who had very short legs, he spent a lot of

:18:13. > :18:17.second day. He has quite a weak pole vault, Gunnar Nixon, several events
:18:17. > :18:27.on this second day. There are medal contenders in this heat. Pascal

:18:30. > :18:37.Beren Brooke -- Behrenbruch, the German, and also Coertzen, the South

:18:41. > :18:46.Behrenbruch, we have predictions based on personal bests on this
:18:46. > :18:49.second day. If all athletes performed according to the best in
:18:49. > :18:59.the events, Behrenbruch would finish in bronze medal position, lying
:18:59. > :19:05.seventh at the moment. There is Pascal Behrenbruch. He has the
:19:05. > :19:09.quickest time in this line-up in the hurdles. Just a shade outside 14

:19:19. > :19:20.
:19:20. > :19:30.sneak below 14. You think of the German challenges in the decathlon

:20:30. > :20:32.
:20:32. > :20:35.there is Gunnar Nixon. -- he is 24. -- 25th. He came into the
:20:35. > :20:40.championship is very much of the third of American athlete, possibly
:20:40. > :20:45.force, Ashton Eaton, Trey Hardee, Trey Hardee who is out, struggling
:20:45. > :20:53.with injury, Ashton Eaton is out in front at the moment, but Gunnar
:20:53. > :21:01.Nixon is hot on his heels. Again, he needs to improve. He is the slowest
:21:01. > :21:06.in this field in personal-bests. 14.51 is the best he has mastered
:21:06. > :21:16.over the years. Not too many years yet, he is still just 20.
:21:16. > :21:41.
:21:41. > :21:50.before the starter got them to stand The muttering that I heard had
:21:50. > :21:54.something to do with Lane five, which is Coertzen, the South
:21:54. > :22:00.African. What the problem was I am not sure. Certainly there will be a
:22:00. > :22:04.bit of misunderstanding because of the language barriers here. But
:22:04. > :22:08.Coertzen is a very experienced athlete, a former record-holder.

:23:25. > :23:31.The man with the number five on his thigh, and he set off with the man

:23:50. > :23:55.classified as us -- a false start against Coertzen.
:23:55. > :24:05.Just to explain the false start rule, in the decathlon that is
:24:05. > :24:12.
:24:12. > :24:16.Then you are, there is no language barrier, the official speaking very

:24:34. > :24:37.everyone, and that looked as though it was against Lane four. Pahapill,
:24:38. > :24:43.a very experienced athlete. That surprised me, because it was
:24:43. > :24:53.Coertzen who was moving on the blocks. He has maybe had too much
:24:53. > :24:53.
:24:53. > :25:03.coffee this morning. Rietveld is howling away again, ringing around
:25:03. > :25:12.

:25:19. > :25:26.going well as Coertzen, Rietveld is trying to come through. But Coertzen

:28:23. > :28:30.about fun, but with that trying to focus on the right things to improve
:28:30. > :28:35.you. It was a brilliant education. He used to play games with his great
:28:35. > :28:40.rival from west Germany and he always had that little bit extra.
:28:40. > :28:48.He always managed to do that, he could always find that magical way
:28:48. > :28:53.of citing people out or psyching people up. He has that skill.
:28:53. > :28:59.We talk about the technical work decathletes do and clearly Daley
:28:59. > :29:07.Thompson did no work on his high jump. Nor, it was just a random
:29:07. > :29:13.thing, just get on the run and jump. But Ashton Eaton, over 9000 points,
:29:13. > :29:15.the world record-holder, he goes in the world record-holder, he goes in
:29:15. > :29:21.in fourth. He is certainly the best hurdler on
:29:21. > :29:28.display today, a truly remarkable performance for a multi-event. Daley
:29:28. > :29:36.Thompson, when he won his world title, 14.37 he ran in pretty
:29:37. > :29:45.terrifying conditions, very windy on that day. There is Eelco
:29:45. > :29:50.Sintnicolaas, lying in fifth place overall overnight. And Artem
:29:50. > :29:57.Lukyanenko, the very good Russian, 14 seconds dead. We could see some
:29:57. > :30:06.fireworks here in this life -- last heat of the decathlon. Damian Warner
:30:06. > :30:13.is just outside of the medals, he is down on a third place. Rico
:30:13. > :30:20.Freimuth, but everyone will be watching Ashton Eaton after that
:30:20. > :30:24.Bristol -- blistering run over the track yesterday evening. The fastest
:30:25. > :30:34.hurdles ever in World Championship history, 13.55. There is the
:30:35. > :30:46.
:30:46. > :30:53.date two the way he finished off yesterday evening? He ran out of his
:30:53. > :31:03.skin, 46.02. It is very rare that decathletes run that fast in 400
:31:03. > :31:06.
:31:06. > :31:16.metre running in a decathlon. The world record 13.47. That was way
:31:16. > :31:20.
:31:20. > :31:25.He clatters hurdle two, but he is away, chased by Damian Warner.
:31:25. > :31:30.Taking things easy over the last few hurdles but Ashton Eaton comes away.
:31:31. > :31:40.Freimuth came into second place. A modest run for the American blood 13
:31:41. > :31:44.
:31:44. > :31:48.points 92 is a good score -- but 13 points 92. 985 points. He is being
:31:48. > :31:52.chased by Damian Warner, who may have moved up into third place after
:31:52. > :31:58.that run, he was being challenged by the big fella outside him, Rico
:31:58. > :32:02.Freimuth of Germany. Ashton Eaton may be just coasted over the second
:32:02. > :32:07.half of that race. He was in trouble after the second hurdle, he
:32:07. > :32:10.clattered that one, caught it with his trail leg, was in danger of
:32:10. > :32:15.being caught off balance, but it looked pretty smooth over the rest
:32:15. > :32:25.of the race. Damian Warner beginning to fade and Freimuth coming on
:32:25. > :32:28.strong. Ashton Eaton still the top of the pile.
:32:28. > :32:32.I think for Ashton Eaton, it is about safely negotiating things,
:32:33. > :32:38.because the danger for him in the decathlon, the only thing that can
:32:38. > :32:42.really go wrong, as he clattered the second hurdle, he could do a no
:32:42. > :32:47.jump, he could foul or become a cropper on the hurdles, so to get
:32:47. > :32:50.through safely was the main thing because the speed is a fairly modest
:32:50. > :32:55.time for him, but still more than good enough and will certainly
:32:55. > :33:05.extend his lead. It is about avoiding potential pitfalls and
:33:05. > :33:23.
:33:23. > :33:30.Eaton. Another superb performance by the world record-holder. Damian
:33:30. > :33:34.Warner of Canada hasn't done his chances any harm at all.
:33:34. > :33:38.Mister Jackson has got this internal Mister Jackson has got this internal
:33:38. > :33:43.high hurdlers' clock, because he looked at that and said it was
:33:43. > :33:46.wrong. You could see it was swifter wrong. You could see it was swifter
:33:46. > :33:51.than the time they gave initially. When you look at the strength of
:33:51. > :33:56.this field, that was about right. Ashton Eaton got out ready well, he
:33:56. > :34:00.was aggressive, just kept focused. He banged into the second hurdle,
:34:00. > :34:04.didn't make much difference. It is because he is happy, it won't make
:34:04. > :34:07.that much difference early on. But he has this pitter patter shuffle
:34:07. > :34:11.strike in between the stride strike in between the stride
:34:11. > :34:14.pattern, which is absolutely fine, because you sense it gives him a
:34:14. > :34:18.little bit more control over the barriers, it gives him time to see
:34:18. > :34:24.the hurdles as he approaches them and it is something you will do when
:34:24. > :34:27.you don't spend that much time doing the event. He ran a decent hurdles.
:34:27. > :34:33.A little unfair to the decathlon high hurdlers, because we are going
:34:33. > :34:43.straight to the men's high hurdlers. First, let's hear from the world
:34:43. > :34:48.
:34:48. > :34:54.record-holder and Olympic champion year is Moscow. I don't have a world
:34:54. > :35:02.championship. I'd I have our world indoor championship and Olympic
:35:02. > :35:05.golds are the only thing missing is a world outdoor championship. -- and
:35:05. > :35:10.soap. The moment when I crossed that line, knowing that the relief of
:35:10. > :35:14.being Olympic champion, knowing that I had won it, it was just amazing. I
:35:14. > :35:20.always build off of energy and the setting, I always look at every
:35:20. > :35:24.meeting, and I look at it and ask what I ran last year and can I be
:35:24. > :35:28.better than I was the previous year. I think I am up for the
:35:28. > :35:32.challenge. I'm not saying I will break the world record but I would
:35:32. > :35:36.like to run under 13 because I feel like nobody has done it this year
:35:36. > :35:43.and somebody has to do it and who else could do it but me? Goodness
:35:43. > :35:48.me, he is back with a bang. With old people making their way out and new
:35:48. > :35:52.people making their way in, they are all great athletes, there is a lot
:35:52. > :35:57.of the young athlete coming up and running fast, so I think that the
:35:57. > :36:06.race will still be just as exciting. Setting goals is a great way to keep
:36:06. > :36:12.athletes motivated and running under 13 is obviously a motivator. I need
:36:12. > :36:16.to run five more to run the most sub 13s that anybody on the planet has
:36:16. > :36:20.ever run, so hopefully I will get them this year.
:36:20. > :36:23.Colin, I think it is fair to say that at the last year and the
:36:23. > :36:29.fireworks of Aries Merritt, this year has not been a vintage year for
:36:29. > :36:32.hurdling. No, there has been a lot of toing and froing when it comes to
:36:32. > :36:39.the world leading mark and a lot of the top athletes have spent time on
:36:39. > :36:42.the physio's bench. So a lot of time gathering themselves, putting
:36:42. > :36:45.themselves back through their paces and is trying to establish
:36:45. > :36:50.themselves. I always say it is about the hurdles, you have to get into a
:36:50. > :36:54.rhythm, a group of running very quickly. Last year, Aries was in
:36:54. > :36:59.that group, always around that 13 second mark without a struggle. This
:36:59. > :37:03.year, he has not found that initial rhythm, and that is why he has
:37:03. > :37:10.struggled. He pushes and works a little too hard and it causes him
:37:10. > :37:15.problems. He fail at London because he was chasing the fast time. --
:37:15. > :37:23.failed. Nobody has run under 13 seconds this season. It is a tough
:37:23. > :37:28.thing to do, manager for some a lot of top athlete -- mind you, a lot of
:37:28. > :37:33.athletes can't do it. It just proves how difficult it is, there are very
:37:33. > :37:39.talented athletes out there and they are striving to do that. Is Aries
:37:39. > :37:44.Merritt trying to play catch-up too quickly. He fell in London, trying
:37:44. > :37:48.to run too quickly, maybe? When you have set your own level in your
:37:48. > :37:51.mind, and you are not achieving it, it becomes a burden for you and you
:37:51. > :37:56.start to run tight and I think that is what Aries is doing, struggling
:37:56. > :38:00.to find that real niche performance that is going to be needed out there
:38:00. > :38:04.today to get through, because you need to get into your rhythm. And he
:38:04. > :38:13.will definitely needed in the final, because it is not one-way traffic.
:38:13. > :38:16.-- needed. You cannot go out and job it like the 100m because you have do
:38:16. > :38:20.clear the barriers. And you have to get used to running the track well.
:38:20. > :38:29.It will be a tough call and we are looking at the home favourite as
:38:29. > :38:35.well, Shevchenko off, I would say to everybody, watch out for him --
:38:35. > :38:39.Shebenkov. You like the way he runs. He is a strong and confident athlete
:38:39. > :38:47.and doesn't get intimidated by the world leaders and that will play
:38:47. > :38:49.well for him come the final. Heat one involves Jason Richardson, the
:38:49. > :38:55.one involves Jason Richardson, the defending world Steve Cram is
:38:55. > :38:59.calling this one. STEVE CRAM: Jason Richardson will be
:38:59. > :39:02.nervous, as you would be going into any championships as the defending
:39:02. > :39:07.champion. And the man who has had his own problems this year, looking
:39:07. > :39:12.along the line and he knows there are plenty in this race who will
:39:12. > :39:22.give him something to think about. The first three will go through and
:39:22. > :39:49.
:39:49. > :39:53.the four fastest losers are into the to talk about Ryan Brathwaite, to
:39:53. > :39:58.surprise world champions, if you like. That is the script that the
:39:59. > :40:05.110m hurdles can follow at major championships. Parchment is in
:40:05. > :40:13.pretty good form this year, a new personal best. Braithwaite was the
:40:13. > :40:17.surprise of 2009. Richardson, if you can remember what was happening,
:40:17. > :40:22.there was chaos around him, but he came through to win the world title,
:40:22. > :40:32.but hasn't been at his best this year either. Watch out for Thomas in
:40:32. > :40:41.
:40:41. > :40:47.start. Richardson is right there with him. Parchment is not doing so
:40:47. > :40:51.well. Richardson comes through. Shabanov of Brescia this site. It
:40:51. > :41:01.will be tight on the line but Richardson gets it, Shabanov and
:41:01. > :41:02.
:41:03. > :41:07.maybe Brathwaite are the three. That close was, very, very close.
:41:07. > :41:10.Richardson, after an OK start, he wasn't fazed by Thomas getting away
:41:11. > :41:16.so well alongside him, he looked as though he was going to get away and
:41:16. > :41:23.then faded a little. They all started to close him down, but in
:41:23. > :41:29.the end, he will be delighted to get through. Colin?
:41:29. > :41:32.COLIN JACKSON: There was a lot of action all over the place, a lot
:41:32. > :41:37.going on, and messy race, but the important thing for Richardson was
:41:37. > :41:41.he got through cleanly and smoothly. This will be interesting, with the
:41:41. > :41:46.semifinal, because there will be a lot of pressure both left and right.
:41:46. > :41:52.Let's watch him head on. Seven strident approach, works hard into
:41:53. > :41:59.the barrier but takes it nice and cleanly and focused already. Focused
:41:59. > :42:04.on the hurdle, works offered with the Trail Lake. Gathers himself,
:42:04. > :42:08.tries not to make any errors -- works off it with the Trail Lake.
:42:08. > :42:14.These hurdles are coming very quickly indeed can sometimes you can
:42:14. > :42:20.guide them, they can take a bit of speed of your performance. -- off
:42:20. > :42:27.your performance. But not Jason. He staggered off the final one little
:42:27. > :42:30.bit but the victory is what matters. That is what is up on the
:42:30. > :42:39.scoreboard, it is an unofficial but looks right. Shabanov with the
:42:39. > :42:46.seasons best and Brathwaite getting ahead of Thomas by 100th of a
:42:46. > :42:50.second. Certainly competitive. The next heat
:42:50. > :42:56.features Will Sharman of Great Britain. The burst onto the scene
:42:56. > :43:00.four years ago, but it has been a struggle since then and wasn't
:43:00. > :43:10.selected for London 2012. But he is here and in great form and has been
:43:10. > :43:10.
:43:10. > :43:16.First of all, I want to remind you of something you said, that you get
:43:16. > :43:22.better as the season goes on and it has been proved, you get a graduate
:43:22. > :43:27.have been fantastic. Yes, I am looking really forward to Moscow. I
:43:27. > :43:30.am in better form than I have been for any World Championships before.
:43:30. > :43:37.A confidence boosting run at the Anniversary Games, the time and
:43:37. > :43:41.everything, what does it mean to you? That was massive. Missing last
:43:41. > :43:46.year, the Olympic Games, through injury, it was my Olympics. I did it
:43:46. > :43:49.in front of 60,000 British people who cared, who were interested in
:43:49. > :43:53.how British athletes were doing, and I couldn't have asked to have
:43:53. > :43:58.performed on a better stage. That is what I thrive on and I will be
:43:58. > :44:01.looking forward to that same kind of atmosphere in Moscow. It is going to
:44:01. > :44:10.be difficult. Yes, I am in good contention for good things, however
:44:10. > :44:15.everyone is going there like-minded and it is going to be a tough fight.
:44:15. > :44:18.I go into these championships with the confidence of having posted a
:44:18. > :44:25.faster time. Other athletes are going to be aware of the kind of
:44:25. > :44:31.form I am in and it is going to make them fear me. However, I can't rest
:44:32. > :44:35.on my laurels, because my mentality at a World Championships is it
:44:35. > :44:40.doesn't matter who you are, what you have done before, it is a
:44:40. > :44:46.competition of equal men and the slate is wiped clean and we begin
:44:46. > :44:50.from here. Despite his struggles, he has made
:44:50. > :44:57.the last two World Championships finals, fourth in Berlin and fifth
:44:57. > :45:03.in Daegu. An athlete whose best we feel is still ahead. Yes, he has got
:45:03. > :45:05.to get into that groove again, he has always been chasing it. He never
:45:05. > :45:10.arrives at the championships always perfect but this year he seems to
:45:10. > :45:13.have got it right and I think he is in a good place in his mind. He is
:45:13. > :45:17.confident and his technique is holding up. So without putting the
:45:17. > :45:21.kiss of death on him, when it comes to the real deal and the pressure of
:45:21. > :45:24.the situation, because he is so good technically, he will always be there
:45:24. > :45:30.or thereabouts. And he says the athletes will have watched his races
:45:30. > :45:34.and will know he makes mistakes very rarely, and that is a real asset.
:45:34. > :45:41.Certainly the back end when you are chasing those medals. If he gets
:45:41. > :45:46.close to his personal best, he is not far off. In terms of the quality
:45:46. > :45:50.he is up against, not as competitive as the first heat. Not quite, but
:45:50. > :45:54.Langat is the person we will be watching, because he is capable of
:45:54. > :46:00.running very quickly indeed. And Wilson, the surprise US champion, is
:46:00. > :46:04.also in this race. He is one of those people who I have thought has
:46:04. > :46:06.always been very underrated, because sometimes it doesn't produce good
:46:06. > :46:16.performances when it matters but he went to the US championships this
:46:16. > :46:29.
:46:29. > :46:38.year and won the title and we know how tough it is there. Any issues
:46:38. > :46:44.with lean Ms Gormley -- with Lane nine?
:46:44. > :46:52.No, no issues, no panic whatsoever. After the disappointment of not
:46:52. > :46:57.going to London last year, Will is a man of ambition, isn't he?
:46:57. > :47:07.Yes, but if he can hold himself together, not let the occasion get
:47:07. > :47:08.
:47:08. > :47:12.to, he can do well. Steve, it is all yours.
:47:12. > :47:16.Well, Will Sharman is looking at risk. He is moving around a fair
:47:16. > :47:20.bit. This is a race we are all expecting good things from him,
:47:20. > :47:25.expecting good things from him, probably an ideal heat for him.
:47:25. > :47:31.Yes, he will be quite pleased with the draw. He has Ryan Wilson
:47:31. > :47:36.alongside him, but it is quite a modest line-up. Pascal
:47:36. > :47:43.Martinot-Lagarde, the youngest brother of Thomas. Wenjun Xie of
:47:43. > :47:53.China, as well. There is Pascal Martinot-Lagarde. He is perhaps the
:47:53. > :47:55.
:47:55. > :48:04.Beagle -- bigger talent. He has run in 13.12 this season. A former world
:48:04. > :48:13.Jim Prean -- junior champion. There is Wenjun Xie, going well this
:48:13. > :48:23.season. And Ryan Wilson is in lane eight. He is US champion this year
:48:23. > :48:24.
:48:24. > :48:27.at the eighth attempt, he is 32 now. He is alongside Sharman. He must
:48:27. > :48:36.feel comfortable in this environment in the World Championships, it has
:48:36. > :48:46.been good to him. Fourth in Bellingham, fifth in Daegu. Second
:48:46. > :48:46.
:48:46. > :49:50.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 64 seconds
:49:50. > :49:54.here. It is Ryan Wilson at the moment and Wayne C Davis comes
:49:54. > :50:00.through to take it, Sharman just about getting there. Well, it is
:50:00. > :50:10.hard work, but successful work in the end for Will Sharman. A little
:50:10. > :50:10.
:50:10. > :50:14.bit of a shake of the head. More to come from me, he says, I hope.
:50:14. > :50:21.Certainly the man alongside him, Ryan Wilson, he was a good man to
:50:21. > :50:27.measure himself against, Steve. Yes, he actually got out better than
:50:27. > :50:29.Wilson. Wilson comes back at the end, he had to.
:50:29. > :50:34.Disappointing, Pascal Martinot-Lagarde on the fireside.
:50:34. > :50:38.Given his form, we thought he would qualify easily but it was a bit of a
:50:38. > :50:43.struggle and he is perhaps fortunate the Frenchman on the fireside did
:50:43. > :50:49.not perform at all, to be honest, because he has looked to be
:50:49. > :50:53.improving. -- the Frenchman on the far side. But Will is full of
:50:53. > :51:02.confidence. He has got through safely and he now has to focus on
:51:02. > :51:12.the semifinal, where he will have to be better than that.
:51:12. > :51:12.
:51:12. > :51:16.This is the head honour of Sharman. -- the head on Sharman. He must have
:51:16. > :51:25.felt Wilson was easing away from them alongside him. He maintained
:51:25. > :51:32.his composure, it was a clean enough run. He said, as he knocks down the
:51:32. > :51:36.barrier! I am sure we will hear from him shortly, he will feel there is
:51:36. > :51:42.more to come. The key thing is to get through, of course, and he did
:51:42. > :51:48.that. The semifinals take place tomorrow, and he knows he will be
:51:48. > :51:55.easier. Let us just confirmed that for you. -- he knows he will be
:51:55. > :52:02.there. Wayne Davies, from Trinidad and Tobago, coming second and
:52:02. > :52:06.and Tobago, coming second and William Sharman in 13.51.
:52:06. > :52:10.People say that you get quicker as the championship goes on, today is
:52:10. > :52:14.about getting safely through and you have done that. I am so relieved,
:52:15. > :52:19.that is the mundane part over with, tomorrow is when the boys get rough
:52:19. > :52:24.and ready. I am really looking forward to a semifinal, all I need
:52:24. > :52:32.is a good night's sleep. How tough is it to get up so early
:52:32. > :52:36.in the morning and do all the prep? You either fall into one of two
:52:36. > :52:41.categories, where you perform best early morning, I am not one of them.
:52:41. > :52:45.For me, I was up at 5am. I was probably up every hour last night
:52:45. > :52:50.thinking, is it time to race yet? It is difficult for me, early in the
:52:50. > :52:55.morning. I think that is my fastest ever World Championships opening
:52:55. > :52:59.round. There have been some surprises already. I put myself
:52:59. > :53:03.through a good warm up with Malcolm Arnold, I am in great shape, my
:53:03. > :53:08.coach put me through a great training programme, it is just being
:53:08. > :53:14.in it and I am thankful to be through to the next round. That
:53:14. > :53:24.sounds great, you put it in a great perspective as always, good -- good
:53:24. > :53:31.They are going to get rough and ready tomorrow, Colin. You talked
:53:31. > :53:35.about the French guy, Pascal Martinot-Lagarde.
:53:35. > :53:42.Scratch my head a lot after the first heat, because I thought that
:53:42. > :53:45.was a little bit quick, I was surprised that Hansle Parchment
:53:45. > :53:51.struggled. Pascal Martinot-Lagarde is expected to run much better than
:53:51. > :53:59.that, 13.12 he achieved at the Diamond League. I expected him to be
:54:00. > :54:03.more explosive than that, but he is out of this race really early. It
:54:04. > :54:07.really started right at the very beginning of his race, Wilson. As he
:54:07. > :54:11.pushed out of the blocks he took one, Wilson. As he pushed out of the
:54:11. > :54:15.blocks he took one, two, a little bit, so he did not prepare for the
:54:16. > :54:24.first barrier. If you watch it one, two, three, and he sinks. He does
:54:24. > :54:29.not stand up correctly and that cost him on the first hurdle. As he did
:54:29. > :54:33.that, Ryan Wilson went away from him. It put you under pressure, then
:54:33. > :54:37.he clatters a hard all around here, which you don't want to do because
:54:37. > :54:42.that pulls you back. Then he can settle down and be more fluent,
:54:42. > :54:48.because he is in that groove and technical rhythm of his. Once you
:54:48. > :54:52.lose the momentum and the first hurdle it is difficult to find it
:54:52. > :54:55.again because there are so few hurdles.
:54:56. > :55:00.And you are chasing your opponent, that is the wrong thing to do, you
:55:00. > :55:03.need the total opposite, you have to resist what your body is telling you
:55:03. > :55:09.and realise I have ten hurdles to make a tiny bit all the time to get
:55:09. > :55:12.to the end. We are talking about the fact it has
:55:12. > :55:19.not been a vintage year for high hurdles and we have seen it here,
:55:19. > :55:23.haven't we? Yes. Parchment was the leader for
:55:23. > :55:27.Jamaica at one stage, we were all thinking this is going to be great,
:55:27. > :55:32.because it is a new name in the mix and he struggled in that first
:55:32. > :55:38.round. I expected him to go a little bit quicker, to. Let's see what
:55:38. > :55:41.happens in the second round. Let's see what happens in heat
:55:41. > :55:47.three, which we have Aries Merritt end. If there is a time to get your
:55:47. > :55:51.season together, this is the time for the world record, isn't it?
:55:51. > :55:57.This will be a competitive race, as we know, and he is up against
:55:57. > :56:01.Orlando Ortega, and he is hungry for victory. He had a very good season,
:56:01. > :56:08.the young Cuban, then he had an injury problem and had not raced
:56:08. > :56:13.very well. He will be a real threat. We are hearing that Dwight Thomas is
:56:13. > :56:17.a nonstarter. That takes a little bit out of the
:56:17. > :56:24.mix, but I did not see him being one of the main contenders at the end
:56:24. > :56:27.for the battle for the medal. All in all, this is the man under pressure,
:56:27. > :56:32.he is world record-holder, Olympic champion and all eyes will be
:56:32. > :56:39.watching him. Steve, once again come it is all
:56:39. > :56:42.yours. yours.
:56:42. > :56:49.STEVE CRAM: Yes, he is the world record-holder, a season that has had
:56:49. > :56:53.its up and downs, it is fair to say. I was in Shanghai when he poured his
:56:53. > :57:02.strength and it did not look that bad at the time, it looked like one
:57:02. > :57:05.of those niggling pools that will quickly heal, but it took a while.
:57:05. > :57:13.Orlando Ortega, by contrast, has had a very good season, until the London
:57:13. > :57:23.Diamond League, we the pain of them came a cropper. -- Colm McFadden the
:57:23. > :57:27.
:57:27. > :57:37.peer of them. -- player of the pair will be in 3Com Orlando Ortega is
:57:37. > :57:53.
:57:53. > :57:57.for, then there will be a make the team, even though he was
:57:57. > :58:07.the Olympic champion, he is not defending champion, he was a wild
:58:07. > :58:19.
:58:19. > :58:29.London but he is looking a better to, someone has been asked to get
:58:29. > :58:33.
:58:33. > :58:39.Merritt, Ortega got them there, as well. This is going to be very
:58:39. > :58:47.close. It will be Merritt, Thomas Martinot-Lagarde and then Balazs
:58:47. > :58:51.Baji. You will be happy with that, he will be pleased, a little smile
:58:51. > :58:57.breaks across his face. Something to be negotiated, you always feel, for
:58:57. > :59:04.the top guys, the first round. Not the sort of hurdling we have seen
:59:04. > :59:07.from Merritt all last year, but he has had that injury. The brakes did
:59:07. > :59:12.not command deliberately, but he is not efficient -- finishing the way
:59:12. > :59:19.you would like him to. Thomas Martinot-Lagarde, much better than
:59:19. > :59:22.his brother. Yes, that was better than we
:59:22. > :59:30.expected for Merritt, especially as he came a cropper at the Olympic
:59:30. > :59:34.Stadium. So, safely through, Colin. Yes, I was watching that from the
:59:34. > :59:39.studio, I was seeing what Merritt would do. It was a very aggressive
:59:39. > :59:45.drive into the first barrier. This time last year, he would
:59:45. > :59:50.collide away, he would literally glide away from his opponents.
:59:50. > :59:55.He seems to just not have that extra gear, that change of pace we were so
:59:55. > :59:59.loose -- so used to last year. There is lots still to come, of course,
:59:59. > :00:05.this is an early round, and he will look forward to the next race, get
:00:05. > :00:09.look forward to the next race, get those cobwebs off.
:00:09. > :00:13.Aries Merritt is alongside me, we were talking about early starts to
:00:13. > :00:18.Will Sharman, how do they affect you? You know, you have to get up so
:00:18. > :00:21.early, get bad for a end to try and wake up and I ate just a little bit
:00:21. > :00:26.of oatmeal to get something in my system because I don't want to be
:00:26. > :00:33.too heavy, but all in all, very comfortable.
:00:33. > :00:37.How different is the mindset to date to tomorrow? It is very different,
:00:37. > :00:42.the mindset to qualify, then in the final unit as hard as you can. Thank
:00:42. > :00:48.you for talking to us. Colin, you were saying at the
:00:48. > :00:52.equivalent stage of the games last year in London how much quicker he
:00:52. > :00:57.ran. Yes, it is always about rhythm. You
:00:57. > :01:01.have to get into the groove, you have to have that consistent, high
:01:01. > :01:06.level of performance. At his seventh straight, he approaches the barrier
:01:06. > :01:10.with long, loping strides, it is not a dynamic, aggressive way in, but
:01:10. > :01:16.when he gets off he get into this beautiful run.
:01:16. > :01:22.His trailing leg is so smooth, it pours over the barrier. But when he
:01:22. > :01:25.goes off the barrier at this stage, we get into this shuffle, he does
:01:25. > :01:32.not raise his knees up high, last year he was shuffling with real
:01:33. > :01:38.speed and intent and this year he does it with far more containment.
:01:38. > :01:45.It seems to me he is playing those hurdles very safe. He has this much
:01:45. > :01:49.between each hurdle, he is not really going for it. Yes, he is not
:01:49. > :01:53.as snappy, that is because of the pace you generate on the floor. The
:01:53. > :01:57.faster and snappier you are, the quicker you go over the hurdle,
:01:57. > :02:03.which means your clearance height gets really shocked. That is why we
:02:03. > :02:08.are seeing that at this early stage. The other thing, as well, with an
:02:08. > :02:10.injury, is that long after a muscle has cleared up, it hangs in the
:02:10. > :02:17.mind, even subconsciously it can take awhile to have confidence you
:02:17. > :02:20.are going be fine. Yes I spoke to him on many occasions during the
:02:20. > :02:24.season and I asked him what was going on, and he has no problems at
:02:24. > :02:29.all with his injury, he says his mind is in the same place, and it
:02:29. > :02:32.seems to me sometimes his training is really showing him he is in great
:02:32. > :02:37.shape. The problem he has is delivering it regularly when it
:02:37. > :02:42.matters, during races. There is a difference between high
:02:42. > :02:48.hurdles in terms of physique, and we will go from Aries Merritt to David
:02:48. > :02:58.Oliver, a man mountain! Yes, he said he spent a little less time in the
:02:58. > :03:00.
:03:00. > :03:07.gym. He has become more slight. is fading away! He said is he has
:03:07. > :03:11.lost seven pounds. We thought he would be the next
:03:11. > :03:15.world record-holder. We thought he would be Olympic champion, when he
:03:15. > :03:18.ran that 12.89 in Paris we thought this guy is going to be special.
:03:18. > :03:23.Unfortunately for him there was a hamstring problem and we were
:03:23. > :03:29.wondering, poor David, what does he need to do? He is in the middle of
:03:29. > :03:34.the field with the light blue, and he has an aggressive lead lag. He is
:03:34. > :03:39.heavy, he is strong, and he really mussels his way through the field.
:03:39. > :03:46.That is his fastest time, 13.04. I think everyone was really surprised
:03:46. > :03:51.because he was not showing that much form before then. At David, he came
:03:51. > :03:58.back of this victory and did it again in London. He is feeling more
:03:58. > :04:03.confident in his own performance. I know it is just round one, early
:04:03. > :04:09.morning, but there is nothing they are particularly to frighten him.
:04:09. > :04:14.Yes, I think deep down he will be confident. He will be thinking, I
:04:14. > :04:16.have missed out on titles beforehand and perhaps last -- lot will be on
:04:16. > :04:23.my side. I am keeping my fingers crossed, he
:04:23. > :04:29.is a really nice guy, as well. He has slimmed down, as you can see,
:04:29. > :04:34.David Oliver. Steve, it is all yours.
:04:34. > :04:40.STEVE CRAM: It takes all sorts in terms of the hurdles, but Colin was
:04:40. > :04:46.talking about it, wherever we go, David Oliver gets the sort of looks
:04:46. > :04:51.that you and I can only dream of getting. That is harsh. Harsh but
:04:51. > :04:55.eminently fair. I suppose there have been some big bruising American
:04:55. > :05:01.hurdlers over the years, a rich pedigree in this championship.
:05:01. > :05:05.Foster, Kingdom, Johnson. All of them are certainly cut from the
:05:05. > :05:10.physical mode, I will get through these hurdles if I don't get over
:05:10. > :05:13.them. Incredible season in 2010, he went unbeaten for 19 races but
:05:14. > :05:20.unfortunately, it was one of the fallow years between major
:05:20. > :05:27.championships. A bronze medallist in Beijing. He goes in lane five. A
:05:27. > :05:37.reminder, the first three go through automatically. A good heat, this.
:05:37. > :05:41.
:05:41. > :05:51.Four decent athletes. Andrew Riley for Jamaica. Nothing is guaranteed,
:05:51. > :05:58.certainly not in the high hurdles there is Shubenkov, and there is the
:05:58. > :06:03.noise from the chosen few who are coming this morning. His mother was
:06:03. > :06:13.a very good heptathlete, finished fourth in the Olympics in 1988.
:06:13. > :06:14.
:06:14. > :06:18.Andrew Riley goes in lane six. And David Oliver, with a personal best
:06:18. > :06:24.which has him fourth in the all-time list. Andrew Riley became the first
:06:24. > :06:28.man to win both the 100 and 110m hurdles at the US Collegiate
:06:28. > :06:32.Championships. He has all but given up the flat because of the Jamaican
:06:32. > :06:42.strength in that discipline and will concentrate on the high hurdles.
:06:42. > :07:13.
:07:13. > :07:23.asking for a bit of quiet. We cannot confirm or deny. Ready for the final
:07:23. > :07:30.
:07:31. > :07:40.heat in the first round of the away fasted but here comes David
:07:40. > :07:46.Oliver. Shubenkov are going well. It is Oliver, Shubenkov and Andrew
:07:46. > :07:53.Riley that go through, the quickest so far. David Oliver lays down a
:07:53. > :08:00.marker and says, I am here to challenge. And after a very strong
:08:00. > :08:05.start... If there is merit is looking for a challenger, he may
:08:05. > :08:08.look to his own team-mate, because David Oliver was very impressive.
:08:08. > :08:12.Colin Jackson? COLIN JACKSON: It was nice to see
:08:12. > :08:17.David do this. I was wondering that if anybody in these heaps was going
:08:17. > :08:23.to produce anything spectacular for us this morning. --in these heats.
:08:23. > :08:27.David Oliver has managed to do that with a strong performance. But I
:08:27. > :08:31.think it was needed, I think he wanted to really get those cobwebs
:08:31. > :08:36.out, get into a groove, get into a rhythm and establish himself over
:08:36. > :08:40.this field, because there are many people here, including Shubenkov,
:08:40. > :08:47.who will be looking for medals later on, so it was a really great
:08:47. > :08:49.performance from David, nice to see performance from David, nice to see
:08:49. > :08:55.him returning and returning so well. David is alongside me, very happy
:08:55. > :08:59.man, I am sure. Definitely, I'm just happy to be here and representing
:08:59. > :09:04.the USA and having a good time. know Colin Jackson is the presenting
:09:04. > :09:07.position saying you were at the peak of your powers in 2010, you have had
:09:07. > :09:13.injury problems. Are you wanting to put a marker down and show you can
:09:13. > :09:17.be the main man? You don't have to worry about what other people say, I
:09:17. > :09:21.know what goes on, me and my coaching team do and I will try to
:09:21. > :09:26.get back to being the best hurdler I can be. At that time and performance
:09:26. > :09:30.must give you huge confidence on what will be a massive day tomorrow.
:09:30. > :09:34.I don't think that time can give you confidence, I just know I am
:09:34. > :09:37.confident in my ability and all this did was good to be ready for
:09:37. > :09:44.tomorrow. We start all over from scratch again. We wish you all the
:09:44. > :09:48.best for that. Safely through to tomorrow's
:09:48. > :09:52.semifinals, as Sergey Shubenkov and Andrew Rowley and Artur Noga will go
:09:52. > :09:57.through as one of the fastest losers.
:09:57. > :10:04.--Andrew Riley. the early-morning honour of the hurdling has been
:10:04. > :10:07.defended by David Oliver. It was a tremendous run, a majestic
:10:07. > :10:11.tremendous run, a majestic performance. It was good the whole
:10:11. > :10:17.way through. Out of the blocks well, really focused, drove off his
:10:17. > :10:21.trail leg into hurdle two and three and set himself up. He settled into
:10:21. > :10:26.his wonderful rhythm, which is a fast tempo and it achieved what we
:10:26. > :10:32.were hoping, which is a good, solid performance, 13.05, the fastest
:10:32. > :10:38.going into this next round. A strong performance. He didn't need to run
:10:38. > :10:42.that fast, was he trying to send a bit of a message? No, I think he
:10:42. > :10:46.just wanted to do what he needs to do, just run. If you are in that
:10:46. > :10:51.kind of tempo and have it in your legs, why not? It is not going to
:10:51. > :10:56.tax you, you go back and you warm down. This guide the final barrier,
:10:56. > :11:00.it came a bit close to him, but it was what we were hoping he could do
:11:01. > :11:08.and he has managed to do that. Shubenkov right next to him shows he
:11:08. > :11:12.is in good shape. Yes, he looks very good and has massive support from
:11:12. > :11:16.the crowd. Yes, there was a huge cheer when they saw him on the
:11:16. > :11:24.screen, which is nice to see. glance through the qualifiers for
:11:24. > :11:30.tomorrow's semifinals. As I say, this is just the early skirmishes,
:11:30. > :11:35.isn't it? This is exactly what he said, tomorrow, you have to run a
:11:35. > :11:40.whole new set of warm up runs. It is good to get it, you know what the
:11:40. > :11:42.track is like, you know what shape you are in and it will be a deep
:11:42. > :11:47.breath and refocus, when you see the draw, because that will make a
:11:47. > :11:52.difference. Will Sharman is the slowest time, will not play on his
:11:52. > :11:55.mind? No, he is a very confident athlete. He knows what shape he is
:11:55. > :12:01.in, he feels like he can run a personal best and it wouldn't
:12:01. > :12:04.surprise me if he does, even better. He loves mixing it with the top
:12:04. > :12:08.hurdlers in the world and is very confident and he enjoys that, which
:12:09. > :12:14.is why he can raise his level. night, we saw the final of the
:12:14. > :12:18.10,000m and two years ago in Daegu, Mo Farah claimed he didn't know much
:12:18. > :12:20.about Jeilan, the man who beat him. about Jeilan, the man who beat him.
:12:20. > :12:24.He knew all about him here, the man who he was racing in Moscow.
:12:25. > :12:29.What a race it was. BRENDAN FOSTER: They are getting
:12:29. > :12:35.ready on the start line, this is exciting.
:12:35. > :12:39.STEVE CRAM: Ahead, 25 laps of the World Championships 10,000m. In
:12:39. > :12:49.London last year for Mo Farah, it was all about the quest to win
:12:49. > :12:52.
:12:52. > :12:56.payback for a gold medal which slipped away in 2011. He goes to the
:12:56. > :13:03.back of the field, he will move when he is ready. The Kenyans are keeping
:13:03. > :13:09.it steady. Mo uses the opportunity, nipping across for a sponge, letting
:13:09. > :13:19.them know he is here. He is running with his team-mates, Galen Rupp just
:13:19. > :13:29.
:13:29. > :13:33.point. Jeilan, the man who beat him in Daegu two years ago. The closer
:13:33. > :13:38.we get to three or four laps to go, the closer we will get to the front
:13:38. > :13:45.and he will not want to give up the position. Will the Kenyans try and
:13:45. > :13:49.rough him up? There goes Mo Farah, this is smart, tactical and clever.
:13:49. > :13:55.Looking for his partner, he wants him on his shoulder, he is his wing
:13:55. > :14:00.man. And he has got him there. doesn't need to think about anything
:14:00. > :14:04.else. The bell sounds and Mo has to grab every inch of this lap. There
:14:04. > :14:09.are some challenges coming. He is strong enough, he is fast enough and
:14:09. > :14:18.he is on his way. He has got to kick a game, he has got a man-macro more
:14:18. > :14:24.opportunities. --kick again. He has got two more opportunities. Here
:14:24. > :14:29.comes Jeilan, the defending champion. Mo Farah at the front,
:14:29. > :14:33.Jeilan who won it last time on his shoulder. Mo Farah is kicking hard
:14:33. > :14:39.and Jeilan is still there. The threat has not gone! Mo Farah is
:14:39. > :14:42.digging deep, he has got Jeilan right that! Here is the last bit
:14:42. > :14:48.acceleration and Mo Farah starts to go away. Jeilan is still better! And
:14:48. > :14:57.he again! But Mo Farah is going to get there. This is world domination
:14:57. > :15:03.for Mo Farah, he is going to win. Gold once more. His third global
:15:03. > :15:07.gold medal. He has done it. Goodness me, he gave us some anxious moments
:15:07. > :15:11.on the last lap. It is nice to come out here and win it, that was the
:15:11. > :15:15.one missing, so well worth it. It is nice so many people still believe in
:15:15. > :15:18.me and kept cheering me. me and kept cheering me.
:15:18. > :15:24.It certainly was a tough race. Stephen Brendan are standing by to
:15:24. > :15:28.chat about it. Steve, there was a point with about four or five laps
:15:28. > :15:36.to go where the pace had not been high and you said it could be a
:15:36. > :15:39.demonstration and it turned out to be anything but. You are right, we
:15:39. > :15:43.were looking at each other thinking it wasn't good enough, wasn't hard
:15:43. > :15:48.enough and given the exhilaration we have seen from Mo Farah at
:15:48. > :15:52.Gateshead, that 1500m speed, when he broke the British record in Monaco,
:15:52. > :15:57.you are thinking the last 600, he will pull it all apart. That is easy
:15:58. > :16:03.for us to say, but he had to really graphed on that lap, and the time
:16:03. > :16:06.was nothing special --he had to really graphed. Jeilan had more in
:16:06. > :16:10.the locker than we would have expected, so it wasn't a
:16:10. > :16:15.demonstration, it was hard work and that is how it should become a gold
:16:15. > :16:19.medals should not be easy. That is right and the thing about Mo Farah,
:16:19. > :16:23.if he has one attribute, which he has had all his career, even before
:16:23. > :16:26.he was an outstanding world and Olympic champion, he was a graphed,
:16:27. > :16:31.and he knew that when the bell sounded, there were enough people
:16:31. > :16:34.around him and that he had to win the hard way. And it was the hard
:16:34. > :16:41.way, he kicked on the back straight, he kicked on the bend,
:16:41. > :16:46.they were still there. Then Jeilan came again and this was Mo 's, as
:16:46. > :16:50.Steve said in commentary, last acceleration. There was not any more
:16:50. > :16:54.here. This is as good as he can be, he is in a glorious period of his
:16:54. > :17:01.career. Jeilan did well to come back and he was a big surprise to us, we
:17:01. > :17:06.didn't think he would be this good. But Mo Farah, on a Saturday, he's
:17:06. > :17:13.bullet on Saturdays! He wins Olympic titles, World Championships and
:17:13. > :17:16.thank God the 5000m is next Saturday. He is obviously delighted
:17:16. > :17:22.to win the world title, but do you think there is perhaps a question in
:17:22. > :17:28.his mind, as you said it was not the quickest lap and he may have
:17:28. > :17:34.anticipated going faster? We thought he would go faster than
:17:34. > :17:38.54 seconds for the last lap, he didn't, he ran 54, but no one run
:17:38. > :17:44.any faster. If you look at the split time, I think Jeilan was closer to
:17:44. > :17:49.Mo as they came to the bell. This was a glorious moment for Mo Farah.
:17:49. > :17:55.We will see this and live this again, and for Steve and I it is a
:17:55. > :18:01.complete pleasure to be here. We concentrate on split times, but
:18:01. > :18:06.when Mo kicked in and there was acceleration after the bell, he was
:18:06. > :18:12.winding it up. I did think he would wind it up a little bit more and he
:18:13. > :18:16.would have more pressure in the last 200. But you have one bit of
:18:16. > :18:22.acceleration on the last lap that you have to use wisely. Two years
:18:22. > :18:25.ago, he used it at the wrong time and he had nothing left to give.
:18:25. > :18:31.This time committee were saving that last little push for the home
:18:31. > :18:38.straight and that won him the race. We talk about the preparation before
:18:38. > :18:42.it, running as a team. There was a Kenyan team, an Ethiopian team, and
:18:42. > :18:47.the -- there was Mo Farah's training team, and the only team that did
:18:47. > :18:55.anything as a team was Mo Farah and his trainers. They were running as a
:18:55. > :19:00.team at some points in the race. That was to Mo's advantage. He is
:19:00. > :19:09.really lucky, because it seems to me that his partner is really prepared
:19:09. > :19:16.to give him a lot during the race. Imagining in the 1980s saying, Steve
:19:16. > :19:20.Cram, do you mind leaving me for a lap? It wouldn't happen!
:19:20. > :19:26.We were talking about how fast he ran at whether there may have been
:19:26. > :19:33.any physiological response to that. To go from 1500m to add 10,000m it
:19:33. > :19:40.is a different beast, isn't it? Well, bear in mind it is an
:19:40. > :19:44.endurance event, you cannot get away from that. It is just for him to set
:19:44. > :19:51.off at 56 second lapse is not normal. It is endurance that carries
:19:51. > :19:56.him through. You are right, they have concentrated on getting him
:19:57. > :20:04.race and championship fit. These races are won in the last 1000m. If
:20:04. > :20:14.you can run the last 1000m faster than anyone else, you have the race.
:20:14. > :20:18.Look how strong Mo is finishing here. Mo had a great race. He was
:20:18. > :20:24.closing in the end. That is not speed, that is strength and
:20:24. > :20:28.endurance, and that is the platform on which he built his 10,000m.
:20:28. > :20:32.Steve, you were in tears in the commentary box that day. I will keep
:20:32. > :20:37.that between us. Steve was shocked in commentary and was very gracious
:20:37. > :20:45.because it was a shock. We were shocked by Mo Farah's performance,
:20:45. > :20:51.the way that he ran. You talk about two distances, 1500m and 10,000m.
:20:51. > :21:01.Interestingly, the 10,000m off and run miles and training, but the
:21:01. > :21:02.
:21:02. > :21:07.1500m often run miles and training, but they never run 10,000m, do they?
:21:07. > :21:13.How has your athlete recovered in that -- after that nasty fall in
:21:13. > :21:17.Birmingham? It was a difficult fall, we had
:21:17. > :21:23.written off the World Championships, she was badly hurt with a gash, a
:21:23. > :21:29.very visible part of it. We Dobriskey is kept up.
:21:29. > :21:33.Unfortunately, that race put paid to Lisa. In the next lap in the same
:21:33. > :21:39.place when the race was starting to get out, Charlene Thomas had a fall.
:21:40. > :21:44.We thought that was it. She has had great support from UK Athletics,
:21:44. > :21:48.from the team and a physio. But she is here, that is the main thing.
:21:48. > :21:52.Hannah England went on to win it, she is in great shape and we're
:21:52. > :21:57.looking forward to seeing her go. Silver medal two years ago and she
:21:57. > :22:00.will can bit -- commits to this, she is reading to go, but for Laura it
:22:00. > :22:05.is a bit of a struggle. A couple of weeks ago she did not think she
:22:05. > :22:11.would be on the start line. How tough does this first he'd look
:22:11. > :22:16.for her? -- first heat. Pretty tough. The
:22:16. > :22:23.wind is strong, the resort of depth in the seats. They are harder to get
:22:23. > :22:27.through. It is not just about the tactics and
:22:27. > :22:33.the pace the races run out. Hannah is in the third heat. You have to go
:22:33. > :22:36.out there and win the race. She has to forget about her problems and
:22:36. > :22:41.just try and concentrate on the background she had put in before
:22:41. > :22:48.that happened and hope that her body holds up.
:22:48. > :22:52.We will leave it there with you and Brendan to describe this first heat.
:22:52. > :22:56.Brendan to describe this first heat. Three heats and the six fastest
:22:56. > :23:06.losers will go through on Tuesday. Laura Weightman is in the first
:23:06. > :23:06.
:23:06. > :23:11.heat, she has the former world champion behind, Nancy Langat. We
:23:11. > :23:18.also have the number one in the world, Abbey B Ali Galli. There are
:23:18. > :23:26.not many favourites in the World Championships who would be more
:23:26. > :23:32.hotly tipped. -- Abeba Aregawi. Siham Hilali has been going well
:23:32. > :23:39.this year. And Young Mary Cain, talking about great tablets, just 17
:23:39. > :23:42.years old from the US. -- talking about great talents. She has done a
:23:42. > :23:52.little bit of training with Mo Farah, she is a brilliant talent,
:23:52. > :24:03.
:24:03. > :24:13.watch out for her. This is Jenny Burka, a former indoor champion. --
:24:13. > :24:17.
:24:17. > :24:22.Gelete Burka. Watch out for this runner as the camera pans down to
:24:22. > :24:26.Nancy Jebet Langat. She is starting to recover her form that took her to
:24:26. > :24:32.the Olympic title. She has been running pretty well for this year,
:24:32. > :24:39.she has not done for a while. Abeba Aregawi, Ethiopian, now running for
:24:39. > :24:43.Sweden. She married into that nation and still drains in Ethiopia, that
:24:44. > :24:48.is where she has been preparing for these championships. Svetlana
:24:48. > :24:58.Podosynova, third in the Russian Championships. Sub four minute
:24:58. > :25:04.
:25:04. > :25:07.his/her personal best. -- is her preparation. Both -- all athletes at
:25:07. > :25:17.some point in their career have to deal with some situation like this
:25:17. > :25:20.
:25:20. > :25:23.fastest losers. It will be interesting to see if anyone wants
:25:23. > :25:27.to make this first heat in reasonable pace because there is
:25:27. > :25:36.every chance to go through as long as the piece is reasonable. Some
:25:36. > :25:42.pushing and shoving there, Langat getting involved, Farah is probably
:25:42. > :25:49.a little tentative after what happened at the trials. It is Renata
:25:49. > :25:54.Plis at the front. I am looking there at Abeba Aregawi,
:25:54. > :26:00.the favourite for this event in the yellow and blue vest, now
:26:00. > :26:06.representing Sweden where she has lived -- lived for most ten years.
:26:06. > :26:10.On the outside, Mary Cain, the precocious talent from the US. Laura
:26:10. > :26:15.Weightman, she has done really well to get here, she was still in
:26:15. > :26:20.crutches not long ago. But here she is, thanks to British athletics and
:26:20. > :26:24.Ali Rose in particular. I am sure that a lot of it is then to Steve
:26:24. > :26:29.Cram and his experience over the years. When you come to
:26:29. > :26:32.Championships, you have to deal with problems, sometimes you have to win
:26:32. > :26:40.races at not your best, sometimes you have to run beyond your own
:26:40. > :26:49.ability to try and qualify. Laura Weightman is sensibly tracking Abeba
:26:49. > :26:52.Aregawi, and at the back of the field Mary Cain of the US.
:26:52. > :26:57.Don't be surprised to see her there, she has a real burn up of the
:26:57. > :27:00.finish. She ran half of the race and London on the outside lanes and
:27:00. > :27:05.finished in a mess but she came through like a train to finish
:27:05. > :27:15.fourth. She has great speed to burn at the end of the race. It is a slow
:27:15. > :27:15.
:27:15. > :27:22.pace here, that is the disadvantage of being in the first heat. Someone
:27:22. > :27:28.now, as we have two laps to go, you get the feeling they may pick it up.
:27:28. > :27:32.Aregawi for the first timers the front.
:27:32. > :27:41.Look how smoothly Aregawi goes through, moving alongside a fellow
:27:41. > :27:45.Ethiopian born athlete, Gelete Burka. There is Laura Weightman
:27:45. > :27:49.running strongly now, getting into her running, relaxing, moving,
:27:49. > :27:53.beginning to move a bit more smoothly. She is going through on
:27:53. > :27:57.the inside, some things that is a little dangerous, maybe she should
:27:57. > :28:01.position herself on the outside. As they come into the finishing
:28:01. > :28:05.straight, Gelete Burka on a good position. There is a bunch of them
:28:05. > :28:10.ahead of Laura. She looks as if she is struggling a little bit now but
:28:10. > :28:15.she has to give herself a chance, don't always rely on a gap coming
:28:15. > :28:23.through on the inside. Mary Cain of the US, ten three looked as if she
:28:23. > :28:27.is struggling. -- Laura looks as if she is
:28:27. > :28:31.struggling. That is not surprising, given
:28:31. > :28:36.everything she has gone through. She has to try and work as hard as she
:28:36. > :28:46.can on the last lap. She will really struggled there. Aregawi kicks this
:28:46. > :28:53.race off. Siham Hilali moving up. Laura is really struggling with 250
:28:53. > :28:56.to go. That is what happens when you have not had decent preparation, you
:28:57. > :29:03.cannot get over that sometimes. Aregawi leads the front with
:29:03. > :29:10.confidence and style. She has so much ability and she is so much
:29:10. > :29:16.better than everyone else, she is just jogging here, to be honest.
:29:16. > :29:19.Mary Cain is fighting here, Nancy Langat just accelerates, as well.
:29:19. > :29:28.Renata Plis on the inside, it is going to be very tight, Renata Plis
:29:28. > :29:34.is just about holding on. Mary Cain goes through, the top six
:29:34. > :29:38.qualifying, that has been a real struggle for Laura. As always, it
:29:38. > :29:46.was always going to be a struggle to get here. That was the likely
:29:46. > :29:50.outcome, unfortunately. She looked a little distressed, there, Steve.
:29:50. > :29:56.That is disappointing to see. There we go, Aregawi, the athlete coming
:29:56. > :30:01.into this race as a favourite. In the red vest on the outside, Gelete
:30:01. > :30:06.Burka, the athlete I don't think suits this distance, I think she is
:30:06. > :30:08.better at other distances, she is in the green vest of Ethiopia. On the
:30:08. > :30:16.outside, there comes nearly came with a lot of hopes on her
:30:16. > :30:22.shoulders. There you go, one, two, three, four, five. Mary Cain
:30:22. > :30:28.calculated in six places, Nancy Langat ahead of her. This girl,
:30:28. > :30:35.Aregawi, and sadly Laura Weightman in a little bit of trouble there.
:30:35. > :30:40.That isn't disappointment for her, she is obviously a bit distressed.
:30:40. > :30:48.-- that is a big disappointment for her. That is the unofficial
:30:48. > :30:54.scoreboard, it gets up quicker than our computers tend to. That gives
:30:54. > :30:57.the other is something to aim at. With six fastest losers spots
:30:58. > :31:02.available, that is reasonably quick in the first round. The others do
:31:02. > :31:12.see that as they come into the stadium. They have that to aim at.
:31:12. > :31:16.Ten three is with Phil. A little bit emotional after that, but we have to
:31:16. > :31:19.remind you that you are on crutches a couple of weeks ago, Brendan spoke
:31:19. > :31:24.about it in commentary and Steve knows what you have been through, so
:31:24. > :31:29.it was remarkable that you are here at all. Yes, I knew it would be top
:31:29. > :31:36.and Eiffel Tower caper the first 600 and after that, I had nothing in my
:31:36. > :31:40.legs --I knew it would be tough and after the first 600. But missing a
:31:40. > :31:43.vital time in training, I knew it would be hard and it is
:31:43. > :31:46.disappointing but I couldn't perform any better. I have to thank
:31:46. > :31:50.everybody who has helped me to get to the start line, because after the
:31:50. > :31:54.hard work of the winter, I wanted to be here and give myself the best
:31:54. > :32:00.possible chance, so thanks to everyone. Athletes have all kinds of
:32:00. > :32:05.careers high and lows, it must have taught you a lot about yourself,
:32:05. > :32:08.putting yourself through that to get here. It has been a great
:32:08. > :32:12.experience, getting so close to a major championships, so I have
:32:12. > :32:16.learned a lot through this period and it will take me forward and I
:32:16. > :32:19.can come back to World Championships and be more competitive. You have
:32:19. > :32:25.given yourself a lot of credit, don't be too upset.
:32:25. > :32:31.Thank you. Good to see Heather, they were distressing scenes when she
:32:31. > :32:37.crossed the line. We can speak to Steve --good to see Laura there.
:32:37. > :32:41.Steve, she is a very brave athlete. Yes, it would have been easy to say
:32:41. > :32:45.don't go, but she wanted to be here and the staff, as you pointed out,
:32:45. > :32:48.worked incredibly hard and we went out to Barcelona with the team last
:32:48. > :32:52.week and we could all see she was struggling with her fitness but
:32:52. > :32:56.everybody did the best they could. All you can do is get somebody to
:32:56. > :33:00.the start line and hope the body stands up. But she has missed a lot
:33:00. > :33:04.and Laura is the sort of athlete that needs training to be going well
:33:04. > :33:08.for her whole body to come together and perform well. When your body is
:33:08. > :33:11.going to let you down, it doesn't matter how positive you have been or
:33:12. > :33:16.try and put it to the back of your mind, you do or not the right things
:33:16. > :33:20.but if you don't get a response, you don't get a response. Other athletes
:33:20. > :33:23.have to go through that, you get disappointments in your career and
:33:23. > :33:26.she has the rest of the season to look forward to and another two or
:33:26. > :33:35.three weeks to get fit, running more races and looking forward to next
:33:35. > :33:40.year. I guess that kind of slightly distressing response was from trying
:33:40. > :33:43.to run faster than her body would allow her. Yes, without going into
:33:43. > :33:48.too much detail, Laura is a childhood asthma sufferer and when
:33:48. > :33:53.she is not as fit as she can be, the breathing becomes a problem and she
:33:53. > :33:57.overstretch is her rib cage and the breathing becomes distressing. But
:33:57. > :34:01.when she is fit, she runs really well and when she is not fit, that
:34:01. > :34:06.kind of thing can happen. She will cope with it, she is very strong
:34:06. > :34:12.mentally and she will move on. your advice perhaps not to come at
:34:12. > :34:15.all? No, because she is a young athlete and when she was in the
:34:15. > :34:19.selection period and no one else could be selected, which is what
:34:19. > :34:29.happened after the trials, if someone else could have come, it
:34:29. > :34:32.would have been an option but Lisa got injured, we had three women with
:34:32. > :34:36.the A Standard and Laura was selected and we hoped it would come
:34:36. > :34:41.together. If it doesn't, you accept that and thank everybody for helping
:34:41. > :34:44.you get there and you move on. you get there and you move on.
:34:44. > :34:48.Thanks for the moment, we will head out to the track, heat two, Jenny
:34:48. > :34:55.Simpson going on this one. Andrew Cotter will be commentating.
:34:55. > :35:03.Arakawa looking very good in the first one that Arakawa ee looking
:35:03. > :35:13.very good in the first heat. Simpson in good form this year, winning at
:35:13. > :35:19.
:35:19. > :35:28.the Monaco Diamond League. Belete, Ethiopia spreading out there talent
:35:28. > :35:32.to the middle east, running for Bahrain. I think the strongest
:35:32. > :35:39.challenge to Aregawi, as we look at Sheila Reid, another very talented
:35:39. > :35:44.runner, this woman here, Kipyegon, just 19. Only Aregawi has gone
:35:44. > :35:49.quicker this season. An amazing talent. So often we see teenagers,
:35:49. > :35:53.late teens, early 20s, coming through from Ethiopia and Kenyon and
:35:53. > :36:03.Kipyegon is just a bed at the very top at the moment. One of a trio of
:36:03. > :36:11.
:36:12. > :36:16.Kenyan athletes we have seen here six go through automatically. And
:36:16. > :36:24.the next six fastest go through to the semifinals. And again, the
:36:24. > :36:29.slight advantage of seeing the pace of the first race. I think we are
:36:29. > :36:39.all looking forward to seeing fake Kipyegon are running, what a talent
:36:39. > :36:48.she is. --fake Kipyegon. certainly is, cross country champion
:36:48. > :36:51.and it is the leading brand for all long. She is a former junior cross
:36:52. > :36:54.country champion but she is an athlete who will get better and we
:36:54. > :36:59.hope she runs well in this championship, but the Commonwealth
:36:59. > :37:04.Games in Glasgow next year could be an event where she really excels. On
:37:04. > :37:12.the outside, positioning ourselves well. --herself well. The athletes
:37:12. > :37:15.moving at a sensible place, --sensible pace. They know what time
:37:16. > :37:21.or put them in a qualifying position and when you know that, you aim your
:37:21. > :37:25.lap times and it looks as though these athletes are intent on moving
:37:25. > :37:34.a little bit faster. It is a shade slow but they will accelerate in the
:37:34. > :37:42.later stages. We are led out by the woman taking most of the support
:37:42. > :37:47.from the crowd, Sharmina. Jenny Simpson also placed very well on her
:37:47. > :37:56.shoulder, but the tiny figure of Kipyegon moving easily into third
:37:56. > :38:06.place. Talking about youngsters, the 18-year-old Teferi coming around the
:38:06. > :38:10.
:38:10. > :38:14.corner. Six will go through automatically. Jenny Simpson coming
:38:14. > :38:17.into this championships in really good form, on the shoulder of the
:38:17. > :38:22.leader, putting herself in the right place. Kipyegon knows what to do,
:38:23. > :38:29.she is on her shoulder and Teferi is on her shoulder. So Jenny Simpson
:38:29. > :38:31.comes into this race as the defending champion and that
:38:31. > :38:36.sometimes is pressure on some athletes, but sometimes it is a
:38:36. > :38:41.great opportunity. Let's face it, the first six to go through, it is a
:38:41. > :38:47.bit slower and they will have to pick the pace up. Charmaine of
:38:48. > :38:57.Russia is leading --Sharmina of Russia is leading. Jenny Simpson
:38:57. > :39:05.looks as though she is aggressive and wants to take it on. The door

:45:29. > :45:33.takes silver for Britain! I tried to keep that mentality,
:45:33. > :45:38.really. At the end of the day I can only run my best race and hope it

:45:52. > :45:58.without that external pressure of the whole country watching what we

:46:47. > :46:51.the pace that Hannah has, she will make good use of it when she gets to
:46:51. > :46:56.the final, hopefully. As I said, she needs to be aware of what is going

:47:06. > :47:35.
:47:35. > :47:39.well. The semifinals will be very at the back, Sophie Brown, the
:47:39. > :47:42.American who should have been running this race and had a

:47:52. > :47:53.
:47:53. > :47:58.right, but because the Americans named for athletes, Sarah Brown got
:47:58. > :48:04.a really late called two days ago. She only just arrived on Friday

:49:13. > :49:20.athlete, rather than quick, she is a twin, actually. Hellen Obiri on her
:49:20. > :49:25.shoulder, Genzebe Dibaba on her shoulder. And England is
:49:25. > :49:31.comfortable, nothing to worry about here, it is a nice, steady pace. She
:49:31. > :49:41.is OK exactly where she is and she will hope that Diana Sujew manages
:49:41. > :49:42.
:49:42. > :49:47.to keep this stretched out. 2.13, the slowest second lap.
:49:47. > :49:56.They will have to take four seconds off at pace as they begin to build
:49:56. > :50:04.up momentum. Hannah England knows she will have two following Genzebe
:50:04. > :50:14.Dibaba because she is almost certain to feature. Diana Sujew is running a
:50:14. > :50:18.good sensible race. She has decided to keep the pace going. Hannah
:50:18. > :50:25.England has to just find her way out of here. She is a little bit

:50:29. > :50:34.She is having to push, getting yourself into a little bit of
:50:34. > :50:38.trouble. We know she has a strong finish when she is in good shape.
:50:38. > :50:43.Now she has to concentrate on finding her way through. She is on
:50:43. > :50:48.the inside with too many athletes are around for comfort. She is fast

:53:30. > :53:35.I knew I could just wait. I knew coming into that last 100 I would be

:53:46. > :53:51.outside of view, is it just keen not to panic?
:53:51. > :53:58.Yes, that is what I tried to do, not panic. I got cut up and pushed both

:54:02. > :54:07.That is what it is all about, getting through. Are you feeling it

:57:44. > :57:49.qualifying. Christine Ohuruogu or, came into the championships with
:57:49. > :57:53.high hopes and looked very good. She was loving the championships
:57:53. > :57:59.because she does it so well and when she is here everyone knows she is a

:58:10. > :58:14.Christine Ohuruogu really comes alive. She has a beautiful, ranging
:58:14. > :58:18.stride which makes it look effortless. If you can kind of

:58:37. > :58:44.sensible, she gathers herself well, she does not do a big exhilarating,
:58:44. > :58:54.she has a gradual build-up, hauling herself through the field. This was
:58:54. > :58:57.a special run, 50.22. She did it so well, it was a beautiful run.
:58:57. > :59:02.This year she has got out and about on the Diamond League with the quick

:59:06. > :59:14.her in Tamil pacing has been quicker than it has before. -- internal

:59:22. > :59:26.with the real competition. Even though she took a couple of defeats
:59:26. > :59:32.early in the year, she ran fast in those competitions, faster than she
:59:32. > :59:35.had ever run in these big events. For me it was a genuine sign that
:59:35. > :59:39.she is arriving at these championships in good form, and when
:59:39. > :59:43.she arrives in good form we are all robbing our hands together and
:59:43. > :59:51.keeping our fingers crossed the magic will be switched on.
:59:51. > :59:55.50.22, we saw her crossed the line hardly breathing.
:59:55. > :59:58.Yes, you can imagine how she will be, she will go back and talk to her
:59:58. > :00:02.coach and they will have a discussion about how it went. I
:00:03. > :00:12.think her coach will be putting her on the shoulder going, let's
:00:13. > :00:16.
:00:16. > :00:22.concentrate for the next round and see where we go. In Monaco, her
:00:22. > :00:28.rival loss to her in Monaco. I think she can go perhaps close to
:00:28. > :00:32.49 seconds at these championships. It just depends where Christine is
:00:32. > :00:36.in the final 50 metres to see how close she can get to her. If you can
:00:36. > :00:41.get on an athlete's shoulder and cause tension, you never know what
:00:41. > :00:49.can happen. Let's move on to the men's 400m.
:00:49. > :00:53.Kirani James is one of the standout ins.
:00:53. > :01:01.-- standout names. For me, he is more than a talent. We know how
:01:01. > :01:05.great he can be. He is guided by Harvey Clancy, an Olympic gold
:01:05. > :01:09.medallist in the relay team. He has experience around him, even though
:01:09. > :01:14.he is so young. He comes to championships committee believes he

:01:24. > :01:29.It will not be all his own way, he has been beaten by LaShawn Merritt.
:01:29. > :01:33.LaShawn Merritt is controversial, he has had his drugs issues, he was
:01:33. > :01:37.able to run in London last year after the IOC ruling, he perhaps
:01:37. > :01:44.the. Run as well as we thought in London but he is coming back into
:01:44. > :01:48.his form. He was an athlete that had gone into 44 seconds on numerous
:01:48. > :01:54.occasions so we know what he is capable of and he has been hauling
:01:54. > :01:58.himself. He has beaten Kirani James this year, we know that, but he was
:01:58. > :02:04.also exhausted. It was not an easy race for him, he went off hard and
:02:04. > :02:06.suffered at the end, but he took the victory. Kirani James knows that if
:02:06. > :02:13.LaShawn Merritt is back and bases and braces himself better, he will
:02:13. > :02:20.be a threat. Talking about pacing, what will be
:02:20. > :02:25.the approach of Kirani James and LaShawn Merritt today? It is
:02:25. > :02:30.difficult, in the first round your rank how you have done in the
:02:30. > :02:39.season. These athletes will want to win -- win or run fast so they get
:02:39. > :02:42.the best lanes in later rounds. From a British perspective, Nigel Levine?
:02:42. > :02:46.You mentioned Christine, Nigel, again, is someone who has mature at
:02:46. > :02:53.this year by going on the circuit, being competitive.
:02:53. > :02:58.He has enjoyed his racing. We have spoken to him and he has said
:02:58. > :03:01.sometimes, I have not run very well, but we say, look at the people in
:03:01. > :03:09.front of you. He ran well in London, now he will
:03:09. > :03:14.be running and rubbing his hands, because he is where he wants to be.
:03:14. > :03:23.He has lain too, not exactly the best lane draw for an athlete under
:03:23. > :03:31.Yes, Jonathan has been working on getting that pace, getting the 200m
:03:31. > :03:37.speed up. That is what he relies on, to be his big as it in the 400m.
:03:37. > :03:43.Let's move on to our commentary team, starting with Andrew Cotter.
:03:43. > :03:53.Yes, we're just looking at Jonathan Borlee. We think he is slightly
:03:53. > :04:06.
:04:06. > :04:10.Borlee introduced to the crowd. There is Tony McQuay. Disappointing
:04:10. > :04:16.in London but he should be challenging for medals. Second to
:04:16. > :04:26.LaShawn Merritt in the US Championships. Bourlet goes Borlee
:04:26. > :04:32.

:18:37. > :18:41.came backlash year but hurt his hamstring in the Olympics. He has
:18:41. > :18:46.been consistent but definitely the only person I have seen in this
:18:46. > :18:51.field who can really challenge Kirani James. These heat have been
:18:51. > :18:55.competitive so far, a lot quicker than we anticipated, so maybe we
:18:55. > :19:00.will see LaShawn Merritt do a 44? Let's see. It is about the
:19:00. > :19:04.competitiveness of these early rounds. You can never guarantee your
:19:04. > :19:09.position. I think Steve summed it up wonderfully well, when you come to a
:19:09. > :19:13.Championships, everything goes to zero. So it means anybody can do
:19:13. > :19:20.anything at any time. You have to wipe up for the whole --wipe off the

:19:25. > :19:30.what it is like to qualify in the first round and is in half decent
:19:30. > :19:37.shape. It is difficult to judge what a 75% pace is, because you don't do
:19:37. > :19:43.much of it in training. You do, you will do various different training

:19:52. > :19:57.off that final bend and if he needs to work down the straight and he
:19:57. > :20:00.will do so. He is a very experienced athlete. He has his reputation on
:20:00. > :20:06.the line and he will want to deliver and make sure he doesn't make any

:20:50. > :20:57.
:20:57. > :21:05.lane three. Krasnov will delight the crowd. Still a youngster. Lendore,
:21:05. > :21:15.of Trinidad goes on the outside. He held of Britain's Martyn Rooney last

:22:11. > :22:21.stadium. --sheds. Heat three of the should be no more than a stroll for
:22:21. > :22:21.
:22:21. > :22:27.him. Krasnov outside him, already being eased past. The Venezuelan has
:22:27. > :22:36.gone off very quickly. He may pay the price. LaShawn Merritt just
:22:36. > :22:43.holding him at bay at the moment. Wide outside, Maslak in lane three
:22:43. > :22:47.with the colourful sleeves. Four to go through. So these four are going
:22:47. > :22:57.to go through automatically and at the head of the field, LaShawn
:22:57. > :23:01.
:23:01. > :23:07.Merritt, 44 points 91. A fairly easy looking time --44. 91. That will do
:23:07. > :23:11.nicely to start his campaign. Pretty impressive, wasn't it? A stark
:23:11. > :23:17.contrast to Krasnov, who looked like he was walking through treacle that

:24:25. > :24:30.is breathing the same air! You are breeding very fine now. What can we
:24:30. > :24:35.expect when you step up later? will step it up a notch. The

:25:17. > :25:19.
:25:19. > :25:23.Let's hear his pre-championship many times before. You are going
:25:23. > :25:30.into the 400m. It shows the progression you are making. How
:25:30. > :25:34.excited are you by Moscow this year? Quite excited. Going from the
:25:35. > :25:37.relay into the individual race, and starting from the Olympics is taking
:25:37. > :25:41.through that high and carrying it through to the World Championships,
:25:41. > :25:51.so hopefully next year will be the European Championships, gaining
:25:51. > :25:54.
:25:54. > :25:57.experience. Earlier on this year, we saw you win the gold in the relay.
:25:57. > :26:07.What did that do for your confidence? It gave me great
:26:07. > :26:09.confidence. Surely, the European Championships are not very big
:26:09. > :26:16.compared to the World Championships, but it was a good
:26:16. > :26:21.stepping stone. And we have seen you mix it up on the Diamond League
:26:21. > :26:24.circuit this year. How has that benefited you? I raised the guys I
:26:24. > :26:31.am racing at the World Championships, so I am not going to
:26:31. > :26:34.be scared. I know their tactics and how they run. It is great to base
:26:34. > :26:37.them -- to race them before the World Championships. So going there
:26:37. > :26:43.will not face me and it gives me more confidence with where I stand
:26:43. > :26:53.and what I can do to these people when it matters. It is great to mix
:26:53. > :26:55.
:26:56. > :26:57.it up on a circuit around Europe. still has his long shorts on. He
:26:57. > :27:02.looks like he has forgotten something. He has forgotten
:27:02. > :27:11.something. He's looking for something. He is an experienced
:27:11. > :27:15.competitor. He knows that in lane two he will have everyone to look
:27:16. > :27:23.at. As we have seen in a couple of the heats, you cannot be half asleep
:27:23. > :27:26.year. If he wants to finish in the first four, and he can, anywhere
:27:26. > :27:35.around the 46 seconds mark would be comfortable, but at the moment am at

:28:08. > :28:18.coming through in recent years from Kirani James and Luguelin Santos.
:28:18. > :28:25.Arman Hall will still be hanging onto his fastest loser spot. Chris
:28:25. > :28:30.Brown has had so many great championships. Kevin Borlee is a
:28:30. > :28:39.European champion from 2010. The Belgian champion this year, won a
:28:39. > :28:42.bronze at the World Championships two years ago. His younger brother
:28:43. > :28:52.in -- is joining them in the relay. The quelling Santos is not quite
:28:53. > :28:54.
:28:54. > :29:02.setting the world alight as he did last year. Nigel Levine has not run
:29:02. > :29:11.under 45 yet. He would lift the user -- he would love to do that. The
:29:11. > :29:21.first thing is to finish in the top four. Be ready to race. It is still
:29:21. > :29:52.
:29:52. > :29:56.mourning here in Moscow, 11:30am, quickly. The Nicaraguan is not in
:29:56. > :30:03.the same class as other athletes here. Nigel Levine has not been so
:30:03. > :30:13.fast in the first 200m. Omar Johnson is also doing well. Luguelin Santos
:30:13. > :30:15.
:30:15. > :30:19.is on the outside. Nigel Levine has to not panic. There are five in this
:30:19. > :30:22.now. Nigel Levine is looking good. They are all in the line. There is
:30:23. > :30:30.going to be a scrappy. He has gone past Johnson and moved into the top
:30:30. > :30:35.four. 45.23, the winning time. That is the result you would have
:30:35. > :30:42.expected. As we have seen already, expectations can be thrown out of
:30:42. > :30:50.the window if you do not perform. It is tough in lane two, because it
:30:50. > :30:57.looks like everyone is out there, and you haven't got to panic. He was
:30:57. > :31:04.strong in the home straight as Omar Johnson faded. In lane two, figures
:31:04. > :31:08.must seem a long way in the distance, but there was no panic.
:31:08. > :31:18.The good in Santos and Kevin Borlee went out quickly enough. There was a
:31:18. > :31:29.
:31:29. > :31:34.bit of concern for Nigel Levine. He was biding his time. I think if you
:31:34. > :31:44.were hoping for better things from Nigel Levine, he could look
:31:44. > :31:56.
:31:56. > :32:00.to trust the stagger. People do plenty of training in lanes one and
:32:00. > :32:06.two. I know it is not considered a good lane, because as you said, you
:32:06. > :32:10.can panic about the distances over the first 200m. But he has a good
:32:10. > :32:18.shot here from the side. His action looks good. This is where he
:32:18. > :32:21.realises he has got to work. He has got himself into the home straight.
:32:21. > :32:25.He is completely focused, Nigel Levine, not interested in what is
:32:25. > :32:35.happening on the lanes to the right of him. He is focusing on the line
:32:35. > :32:36.
:32:36. > :32:40.and running very well indeed. 45.41 Very mature performance. What you
:32:40. > :32:44.told me about it from your perspective, you have just said that
:32:44. > :32:51.he was still only force but you did what he needed to do. It was a great
:32:51. > :32:55.race. I came up the bend and stand straight. I was leading the race,
:32:55. > :33:04.tied up at the end. I came through fourth. Chris Brown just nipped me
:33:04. > :33:08.to the line. I am through to the next round. Tomorrow, I am going to
:33:08. > :33:14.analyse the race so that I can be better and hopefully qualify for the
:33:14. > :33:19.final. To you feel anything here and now that could be better? Get in a
:33:19. > :33:23.better lane! But coming forth, hopefully I will get in and outside
:33:24. > :33:27.lane rather than lane two or three again. Fingers crossed. How were the
:33:27. > :33:32.nerves this morning? I was very nervous this morning. The first

:10:06. > :10:07.
:10:07. > :10:13.warning. It has not been given as a false start. That is reasonably

:11:03. > :11:12.penalty, she was set off by got out of the blocks, goodness me,
:11:12. > :11:19.and this is only the heats! 10.94 into a very slight breeze. That is
:11:19. > :11:26.big-time, isn't it. That is the big stage performance and it is only the

:12:02. > :12:05.Gardner certainly did that, an astonishing start. She has taken a

:12:15. > :12:16.
:12:16. > :12:23.Brooks is a very decent sprinter, as is Lalova, but they were left
:12:23. > :12:28.floundering by English Gardner. You can see the intensity, a sort of
:12:28. > :12:32.flailing style, but it was a very, very impressive run.
:12:32. > :12:37.That is a classic John Smith action, he likes to go for that, and
:12:37. > :12:42.action, he likes to go for that, and he will be delighted with that.
:12:42. > :12:45.You have done exactly what your coach told you to do, but that was
:12:45. > :12:51.mightily impressive. Thank you, I went out there and try to do what my
:12:51. > :12:57.coach told me to do. You are on the big stage, the World
:12:57. > :13:03.Championships, but you did not seem fazed by the occasion. It is
:13:03. > :13:12.something you get used to, each meat is what it is, it is a meet. I came
:13:12. > :13:16.out lucky this time. How important was it to make a statement today?
:13:16. > :13:20.have been running bad for a couple of weeks, it was important to come
:13:20. > :13:30.out here and roll a little bit. The times are fast but I think I have
:13:30. > :13:32.
:13:32. > :13:37.more in me. Great to see you, good Just watch this, she explodes out of
:13:37. > :13:41.the blocks, that is the quickest so far. When she is up in her action,
:13:41. > :13:46.she is small, but that bigger drive, you have to get what you have got,
:13:46. > :13:51.you have to use every bit of power you can generate. We talked about
:13:51. > :14:00.Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce having it, she is much stockier than Gardner,
:14:00. > :14:07.21 years old. That may just be a little bit showing her cards early
:14:07. > :14:11.year. You have to have another level to go through through the rounds,
:14:11. > :14:17.that is what the good athletes can do. If she has more levels than
:14:17. > :14:27.that, that will be interesting. 10.94, the winning time. Myriam
:14:27. > :14:28.
:14:28. > :14:33.Soumare, with Melissa Breen, are currently sitting as fastest losers.
:14:33. > :14:37.Yes, that was eyes bulging all-out from English Gardner. Shelly-Ann
:14:37. > :14:47.Fraser-Pryce has seen enough challenges not to be fazed by that
:14:47. > :14:48.
:14:48. > :14:54.but I wonder how she will handle this one. There are a couple who may
:14:54. > :15:00.be able to push. She has saved her least impressive performance of the
:15:00. > :15:03.season for the Diamond League Games in London a few weeks ago.
:15:04. > :15:13.in London a few weeks ago. Michelle-Lee Ahye from Trinidad and
:15:13. > :15:22.Tobago may be able to keep in the competition. We have got Franciela
:15:22. > :15:32.Krasucki from Brazil in lane two. And we have Italia Pohrebnyak --
:15:32. > :15:46.
:15:46. > :15:52.Natalia Pohrebniak of Ukraine in the just now. Six feet in total in
:15:52. > :16:02.this winning's 100m, the first round. This is heat number format.
:16:02. > :16:05.It is the first three to go through automatically. Shelly-Ann
:16:05. > :16:15.Fraser-Pryce in the middle there, in lane four, twice the Olympic
:16:15. > :16:20.
:16:20. > :16:26.Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce lifts her head and drives those legs and
:16:26. > :16:31.begins to jog. She starts to accelerate again, enough to get the
:16:31. > :16:38.victory, 11.16. A different approach from Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. Very
:16:38. > :16:44.different to English Gardner, he went as far down -- as hard and as
:16:44. > :16:52.fast as she could. But Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce did the damage early on
:16:52. > :16:57.and switched off a little bit. She took victory. The good medal
:16:57. > :17:00.contenders ease their way through. She is always very good at this,
:17:00. > :17:10.Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. She gets out the first 40 yards, easy through
:17:10. > :17:12.
:17:12. > :17:17.and then she's good enough to pick it up again. Out of the blocks, get
:17:17. > :17:23.the stark light, get into your running, drive-through, which she
:17:23. > :17:29.does as well as anybody else. Then see where you are at, nice and
:17:29. > :17:33.relaxed, I am already out in front, I can ease off a bit, which she
:17:33. > :17:39.does, but be aware of what is going on around. She realises that she
:17:39. > :17:43.still wants to win this race and that is when the Brazilian comes
:17:43. > :17:47.alongside, and she is aware of that and she picks it up of that and she
:17:47. > :17:53.picked it up a bit. Pretty much a perfect first round to me.
:17:53. > :18:03.Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, there is plenty more to come from her. We can
:18:03. > :18:16.
:18:16. > :18:20.contrast in heat. Yes. But I think both the athletes did what they
:18:20. > :18:23.would have been told to do. I know how John Smith works. I think what
:18:23. > :18:28.he would have said to her initially, because she has been running so
:18:29. > :18:34.badly on the circuit, outrageously badly for an athlete that has run
:18:34. > :18:40.10.85, the bill have said, you have worked hard now. I want you to go
:18:40. > :18:45.flat out in this round. She was just shy of her personal best. It was a
:18:45. > :18:51.good, strong performance, but delivered as a coach would have told
:18:51. > :18:57.to do. I am not sure we have ever seen such intensity in round one.
:18:57. > :19:01.Not at this level. Fraser-Pryce has the same -- different style of
:19:01. > :19:08.running in this event. But she was literally eyeballs out. She says
:19:08. > :19:14.that she hopes there is more to come. I was staggered by what I saw.
:19:14. > :19:19.She was going for it. And a really interesting comment that you made,
:19:19. > :19:26.the idea that the coach realised she needed confidence. Shelly-Ann
:19:26. > :19:35.Fraser-Pryce has been there and done that and being the Olympic champion,
:19:35. > :19:40.about 25 metres... Yes, he will have said, get yourself out in front so
:19:40. > :19:48.you can just switch back and relax. That is exactly what she did.
:19:48. > :19:53.needed to be careful, because she rang 20 metres and then started
:19:53. > :19:56.jogging a bit. Yes, she was using her peripheral vision and could see
:19:56. > :20:00.the Brazilian coming towards you, and you don't want to make any
:20:00. > :20:03.unnecessary mistakes at this level. We have seen it before when we think
:20:03. > :20:11.-- athletes think they are safe and then shut down and then don't make
:20:11. > :20:14.it through to the next round. But she was aware. English Gardner, her
:20:14. > :20:23.coach obviously believed that she needed something to build her
:20:23. > :20:26.confidence. Yes, because there are huge expectations. You win the
:20:26. > :20:33.trials in the US and then you come to Europe and everybody annihilates
:20:33. > :20:36.you. She was not running well on the circuit. This was really a necessary
:20:36. > :20:42.evil, that performance, and I think that is why she was so pleased,
:20:42. > :20:46.because John will go back and say, that's done, let's forget it. You
:20:46. > :20:50.know you're in good shape. Now it is all about performance. She is still
:20:50. > :20:55.a young girl, just out of the collegiate system. It is her first
:20:55. > :21:05.time on the circuit in Europe. She has been injured, she has been hurt,
:21:05. > :21:05.
:21:05. > :21:08.but what a scintillating run. next heat, nothing Okagbare, --
:21:08. > :21:13.Blessing Okagbare an athlete that many people will not know, but they
:21:13. > :21:18.will know that after the championships. I do think that she
:21:18. > :21:23.is the danger woman. She has come on in leaps and bounds in the cast --
:21:23. > :21:27.past couple of years and has made a decision to go for three medals
:21:27. > :21:37.potentially at the championships. She is looking particularly good in
:21:37. > :21:38.
:21:38. > :21:48.the 100m. I am curious to see how Okagbare, in the long jump final
:21:48. > :21:51.
:21:51. > :21:57.tonight. But we will also see her in the 200m as well. This is Ana
:21:57. > :22:05.Claudia Silva from Brazil. She is the South American champion and
:22:06. > :22:11.record holder. Blessing Okagbare is also coached by John Smith in the
:22:11. > :22:21.United States. She has been having a good year, managing a season well
:22:21. > :22:24.between the 200m, the long jump, performing well in all disciplines.
:22:24. > :22:34.Stella Akakpo from France is in lane nine, the new European junior
:22:34. > :22:58.
:22:58. > :23:03.champion. Schillonie Calvert from One more to come after this.
:23:04. > :23:10.Carmelita Jeter, the defending champion, and we have already talked
:23:10. > :23:20.about the performance from English Gardner. Surely Blessing Okagbare
:23:20. > :23:24.
:23:24. > :23:34.just made sure she qualifies OK. across half of the track at the top
:23:34. > :23:38.
:23:39. > :23:48.us, Asha Philip qualified in heat two. A good run from her to get into
:23:49. > :24:09.
:24:09. > :24:15.the best start. Nothing Okagbare is leading through here. She wants to
:24:15. > :24:20.win it, though, and stiff enough to get to the front. She wins it, and
:24:20. > :24:23.that one went pretty much with the script. She did not do any more than
:24:23. > :24:27.she absolutely had to do. She will be coming back tonight for the long
:24:27. > :24:37.jump final and I am sure she will want to get away as quickly as
:24:37. > :24:37.
:24:37. > :24:43.final. All smiles for Blessing Okagbare. No dramatics there.
:24:43. > :24:48.the key for her is a good start. She is a tall woman with a long stride.
:24:48. > :24:52.A great finish to the 100m. She has more than enough here. She may have
:24:52. > :25:01.to get out a quicker to challenge the likes of Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce
:25:01. > :25:11.in the final itself. A very easy style for the Nigerian. Comfortably
:25:11. > :25:12.
:25:12. > :25:16.that performance will stop it looks so comfortable. I just wanted to go
:25:16. > :25:23.through the first round, stay relaxed and focused. I have a long
:25:23. > :25:28.jump to do today, so tomorrow is going to be a big one to! When we
:25:28. > :25:33.saw you at the Anniversary Games, you set two African records. What
:25:33. > :25:41.has that and feel confident? I have been working hard and everything has
:25:41. > :25:44.been going well. We wish you well been going well. We wish you well
:25:44. > :25:50.for tonight. Thank you very much. She will be off to get herself ready
:25:50. > :25:55.for that. 11.03 is the winning time. Silver looks good as well. Bad news
:25:55. > :26:04.for Stella Akakpo am I can already tell her that she is not fast enough
:26:04. > :26:14.to go through as the fastest loser. That would currently stand at
:26:14. > :26:28.
:26:28. > :26:32.it quicker if she's going to compete with Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.
:26:32. > :26:39.her start is quite shocking. It is not the most efficient use of the
:26:39. > :26:43.blocks. She literally just flopped out. She needs to really drive and
:26:43. > :26:47.use the blocks well and power out. She is a lovely looking run and you
:26:47. > :26:51.can see the relaxation in her face, her arms and shoulders. She is an
:26:51. > :26:55.effective sprinter, but I still think with the likes of Carmelita
:26:55. > :27:03.Jeter and Fraser-Pryce, and English Gardner, as we saw, she cannot
:27:03. > :27:06.afford to give them a couple of metres at the start. That said, she
:27:06. > :27:11.is just a fraction behind Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce's world lead. So when
:27:11. > :27:18.she needs to run quick and get out, she can. Yes, she does all her
:27:18. > :27:21.running in the back end of the race. Because she is so tall, what she
:27:21. > :27:26.does is get into her upright running as quickly as possible so that she
:27:26. > :27:29.can use her big, strong stride. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is more of a

:27:51. > :27:54.Absolutely. You can't really tell much in the early rounds. All the
:27:54. > :28:01.girls so far have looked relaxed. Carmelita Jeter will want to stab
:28:01. > :28:11.her authority on this event. I can't see anyone really troubling her in
:28:11. > :28:11.
:28:11. > :28:19.the line-up. Let's hope she is ready Smith, has been not to take any
:28:19. > :28:24.chances. She did not race in the US championships. She already had a

:28:34. > :28:46.
:28:46. > :28:52.Some could keep her honest. If she's anywhere close to her best, and her
:28:52. > :28:57.best is good indeed, she will be challenging for the gold medal. But
:28:57. > :29:01.we have not seen that this season yet. You see that massive strapping
:29:01. > :29:09.there, the tape on the right quad, that is what has been bothering her
:29:09. > :29:18.for much of the season. It is patched up. Then it starts to play
:29:18. > :29:23.with your mind as well. The hundred metres is a psychological affair as
:29:24. > :29:29.much as a physical affair. This woman is capable of very bad times,

:31:29. > :31:37.attention focuses on her, but it was Ferguson who took the victory, and
:31:37. > :31:41.the jury is still out, I think, on Carmelita Jeter. This bit of the
:31:41. > :31:48.race is better, it is the start, isn't it? It is very difficult to
:31:48. > :31:52.tell this year, just qualifying, Ahoure is looking good, as well. It
:31:52. > :31:56.is not a good action, a bit ragged out of the blocks, for me. She will
:31:56. > :32:01.have to work on that. Whether she is just a bit relaxed and thinking I am
:32:01. > :32:08.going to get through no problem, she was a bit untidy coming out of the
:32:08. > :32:12.blocks, she will lose so much ground on the Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. We
:32:12. > :32:20.saw how quick English Gardner was coming out of the blocks. Just, to
:32:20. > :32:23.me, you have to drive out of the blocks. If you have a quad injury,
:32:23. > :32:29.the guys will know better, I am sure they are talking about this
:32:29. > :32:31.upstairs, it hinders you. It must be in the back of her mind, but she is
:32:31. > :32:40.safely through, but not yet producing anything that will worry
:32:40. > :32:44.the others. She may not have been able to pound out the starts in
:32:44. > :32:49.training with that quad injury. Colin Jackson will tell us more
:32:49. > :32:56.about that. It doesn't really punish her in this round, but it may come
:32:56. > :32:59.home to roost in the semifinals and the final, if she gets there.
:32:59. > :33:04.think even the semifinals, she is going to have to be better than
:33:04. > :33:10.that. I am sure she will be, she is a very experienced athlete and she
:33:10. > :33:14.will know that what happened there means she has to get out better.
:33:14. > :33:18.This is just the first round, it is just a case of getting through, and
:33:18. > :33:23.when you have had the trials and tribulations she has had you want to
:33:23. > :33:28.make sure you qualify first of all. I think we are going to hear from
:33:28. > :33:33.I think we are going to hear from Carmelita Jeter now.
:33:33. > :33:36.Not the ideal preparation for you, how did you feel?
:33:37. > :33:46.It actually felt OK, it has been a rough year, so I am happy to be
:33:46. > :33:50.here. Were there any doubt you would make it? Yes, there were. We can see
:33:50. > :33:57.you are heavily strapped up, how does it feel to have a quadricep
:33:57. > :34:01.injury when you are trying to explode out of the block. It is very
:34:01. > :34:06.difficult, but I will have to look difficult, but I will have to look
:34:06. > :34:14.at it tomorrow. Thank you. Trying to make remain positive but I
:34:14. > :34:24.think she knows and we know that that's start made trouble. Ice that
:34:24. > :34:25.
:34:25. > :34:30.It is still Ashton Eaton leading the way in the decathlon. Damian
:34:30. > :34:35.Warner, the Canadian, trying to find something in the last round of the
:34:36. > :34:41.discus. Just shy of the 45 metres line. Not a bad throw for the
:34:41. > :34:48.Canadian. We will see a lot of this guy in Glasgow next year when he
:34:48. > :34:55.comes to the Commonwealth Games. I am sure Ashley Bryant Britain and
:34:55. > :35:01.mainly -- maybe even Daniel Lord, as well, another good prospect in
:35:01. > :35:08.British decathlon, maybe bringing home some medals. His best remains
:35:08. > :35:12.44.13 and he will stay in fourth place. Not many changes to talk
:35:12. > :35:17.about, except that Michael Schrader with his final throw has moved into
:35:17. > :35:21.second place for the first time. Gunnar Nixon, who was in second
:35:21. > :35:26.place overnight is down in fifth. Still, the world record-holder and
:35:26. > :35:32.Olympic champion, Ashton Eaton, leads the way, and it is Germany in
:35:32. > :35:36.second and third place. Three events to go.
:35:36. > :35:41.JONATHAN EDWARDS: Ashton Eaton is going well, not quite torched --
:35:41. > :35:46.going well, not quite torched -- such good news for Carmelita Jeter.
:35:46. > :35:51.No, it was a very different Carmelita Jeter than I expected.
:35:51. > :35:58.Usually she is very positive and upbeat. She is looking troubled, not
:35:58. > :36:03.the focused athlete we have come to expect. Very distracted, she did not
:36:03. > :36:07.have the best start at all. I was looking at the strapping on her
:36:07. > :36:11.thigh and those on her knees, and I thought, I have not seen one like
:36:12. > :36:15.that before. I wonder what other injuries she may be carrying. It is
:36:15. > :36:21.just a shame to see her come to these championships not quite in the
:36:21. > :36:27.form she would have hoped. It is always a difficult decision
:36:28. > :36:33.for an athlete, isn't it, Colin, to pull out? When you can run fast, to
:36:33. > :36:37.choose not to come to one of the majors of the year is a hard call.
:36:37. > :36:42.It is always easy for us to question the athletes when they don't deliver
:36:42. > :36:46.what we expect them to be capable of delivering, but we have all been
:36:46. > :36:52.there. Those really grim winter months, training, it is for a
:36:52. > :36:56.reason, to deliver the championships. By hook or by crook,
:36:56. > :37:01.you want to deliver your best performance. You always think, I
:37:01. > :37:06.have a chance. You always have that hope you can miraculously turn
:37:06. > :37:10.something on that will bring you to a championship like this.
:37:10. > :37:17.Certainly, Jeter's body language was not of an athlete who thought she
:37:18. > :37:23.could turn it around. She said she stands a chance in the next round,
:37:23. > :37:27.but she has to work on her mental state in this championship.
:37:27. > :37:32.It cannot be easy to see the other girls in your group training and
:37:32. > :37:38.competing so well when you are way off your best. A different level is
:37:38. > :37:42.Asha Philip, she ran well given her expectations.
:37:42. > :37:47.She ran really well. The British athletes were asked to come near,
:37:47. > :37:51.get close to your best, and she did exactly that. What a great start
:37:51. > :37:56.from her, she needed that to set up her race. She put herself in
:37:56. > :38:01.contention from the start and held her form. Not much to criticise,
:38:01. > :38:05.more of the same please, Asha Philip. What is great for her is
:38:05. > :38:11.that she gets to go into the semifinal against all of the big
:38:11. > :38:15.girls, big development step for her. It is a huge step, she said herself
:38:15. > :38:19.in the interview is that what is special is that she feels she really
:38:19. > :38:24.belongs in this kind of company, that is a good place for an athlete
:38:24. > :38:29.to be. To push myself forward again, I am hoping Asha Philip gets an
:38:29. > :38:35.injury free winter because I think you will see her really, really get
:38:35. > :38:38.herself on the world level next year if she has a smooth winter. She is
:38:38. > :38:42.super talented. The morning session is just about done here for the Liz
:38:42. > :38:46.Nicky Stadium, we will look ahead at Nicky Stadium, we will look ahead at
:38:46. > :38:49.the evening session. It is a big night here in the stadium, we have
:38:49. > :38:55.the conclusion of the decathlon, Ashton Eaton looking to add a world
:38:55. > :38:59.title to his Olympic title. That big long jump from the British
:38:59. > :39:08.perspective, Shara Proctor going for gold. Blessing Okagbare Barry, is
:39:08. > :39:12.there, as well. Then the men's 100m semifinals. -- Blessing Okagbare.
:39:12. > :39:20.Later on, the women's 400m semifinals, Christine Ohuruogu is
:39:20. > :39:28.running particularly well. Then Sandra Perkovic is in the women's
:39:28. > :39:33.discus final and the decathlon 1500m, then the women's 10,000m and
:39:33. > :39:43.the men's 100m final. Let's look back at yesterday at the first round
:39:43. > :39:52.
:39:52. > :40:01.The final heat of the men's 100m, start. Slipping through, the ease
:40:01. > :40:08.into the front, it will be very tight for second place. The top
:40:08. > :40:14.three will have to be sorted out three will have to be sorted out
:40:14. > :40:23.afterwards. It is the business end for you tomorrow, argue confident
:40:23. > :40:28.you are going to take care of As if by magic, Dominic Dale,
:40:28. > :40:36.another champion with a world record, a bit like Usain Bolt dead
:40:36. > :40:40.in Beijing. Let's look back to that women's 100m know that you have with
:40:40. > :40:44.us -- now that we have you with us. What did you make of the early
:40:44. > :40:49.skirmishes? I have said all week I thought this would be the most
:40:49. > :40:55.interesting race, the women's 100m is good to be the most competitive
:40:55. > :41:05.race. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce ran 50 metres.
:41:05. > :41:05.
:41:05. > :41:13.Hardly 30 metres, she ran about 30! No, 15! Blessing Okagbare was
:41:13. > :41:19.impressive, she is a big, powerful women. -- woman. She, essentially,
:41:19. > :41:26.can compete to win the three events she is entered. Ultimately, the 100m
:41:26. > :41:32.will come down to Jamaica versus the USA, with a spring fling of others.
:41:32. > :41:38.-- with a sprinkling of others. What did you make of the intensity of
:41:38. > :41:42.English Gardner? I actually liked it! This is the
:41:42. > :41:47.first time on an international stage for her, and in US history they have
:41:47. > :41:55.always showed up and everyone has backed down. I think English is
:41:55. > :42:03.bringing that back. She came out here and ran the entire way. I think
:42:03. > :42:06.she is also sending a little, little, tiny bit of a message out to
:42:06. > :42:13.everyone that she is the US champion and plans on being a bigger champion
:42:13. > :42:16.than that. Do you think she was sending a message to herself? Colin
:42:16. > :42:20.made the point she was running so badly on the circuit, John Smith
:42:20. > :42:27.said to her get out there and run a decent race to build up your
:42:27. > :42:31.confidence? That could be part of it. It is her first time you, John
:42:31. > :42:40.is her coach, he has been here before, Dean was exactly what it
:42:40. > :42:42.takes. I think she had to come out and establish herself. -- he knows
:42:42. > :42:50.exactly what it takes. She understands winning new is very
:42:50. > :42:59.important. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is Colin Jackson's Vic, she -- he is
:42:59. > :43:08.talking number two in the all-time list. Do you agree? I went to agree
:43:08. > :43:13.with my good man. Listen, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is someone who, in
:43:13. > :43:16.every single major competition, has come to win. I made a huge mistake
:43:16. > :43:24.at the Anniversary Games of saying she always has a perfect start, then
:43:25. > :43:27.she had a bad start and got beaten. I think she is back now to exactly
:43:27. > :43:33.who we know. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is one of the quickest starters I
:43:33. > :43:38.have ever seen, men or women. It is like she is a bullet, road of a gun.
:43:38. > :43:42.At 15 metres, I have never been in a race that at 15 metres I can looked
:43:42. > :43:48.around and say, I already have a gap of three metres, let me look around
:43:48. > :43:51.and shut it off. She is that special. I agree with Colin, I think
:43:51. > :43:57.she is definitely the odds-on favourite to repeat as world
:43:57. > :44:03.champion. You mention your pacemaker in the
:44:03. > :44:07.100m, he got out... No, no, no, let's get that out of
:44:07. > :44:14.the way! There are a tonne of athletes that have amazing starts,
:44:14. > :44:19.and I and my career and utilised all of them.
:44:19. > :44:23.Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce may be the favourite, but it is a case of how
:44:23. > :44:33.well Blessing Okagbare can get out or if she can run her down at the
:44:33. > :44:33.
:44:33. > :44:38.end. No matter what, blessing is a bigger, stronger woman. I think that
:44:38. > :44:43.if Shelly-Ann gets out, everyone will have to catch her. One of the
:44:43. > :44:47.great things about Shelly-Ann having such an amazing first 30 metres is
:44:47. > :44:52.that she goes out then it is everyone's job to catch her. We all
:44:52. > :44:59.know when you run this stage, a lot of people panic. She has been so
:44:59. > :45:05.much stronger this year, as well. She used to get caught by the likes
:45:05. > :45:10.of Jeter at 70 metres, but now she is able to utilise that speed a
:45:10. > :45:13.little bit and hold her form, which is fantastic.
:45:13. > :45:22.That is what she has been doing all year. We have noticed that. I was
:45:22. > :45:29.never really worried about her 100m times. She runs very well all year,
:45:29. > :45:34.and in the 200m. Usain Bolt ran all year very well in the 200m. He got
:45:34. > :45:39.his legs back sharper again for the 100m. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has
:45:39. > :45:44.been doing the same thing with a better first third. What is going to
:45:44. > :45:51.happen is that Shelly-Ann is going to get out and she is going to dare
:45:51. > :45:56.every single one of those people, Blessing included, to catch her.
:45:56. > :46:02.Let's talk about the men's 100m final tonight, it is hard to look
:46:03. > :46:09.beyond Usain Bolt, isn't it? Yes!
:46:09. > :46:16.Please, expand! You know what? He was rusty in
:46:17. > :46:23.London. Last night, Colin and I were talking, I have never seen him so
:46:23. > :46:27.serious. I think that the last time he was on, and I think he
:46:27. > :46:32.understands the difference between the Olympics and the world stage,
:46:32. > :46:35.for athlete at his level. He understood that the last time he was
:46:35. > :46:42.here he made a massive mistake that cost him the World Championships.
:46:42. > :46:51.Mind you, his team-mate took it, so at least it was kept in the camp. I
:46:51. > :46:56.think maybe he has the weight of the responsibility of everyone looking
:46:56. > :47:02.at him being the greatest ambassador of the sport, but he has also taken
:47:02. > :47:06.it back, doing what he is here to do, which is to win the 100m. He was
:47:06. > :47:13.very serious yesterday, got out, ran a great 30 and did the same thing
:47:13. > :47:19.Shelly-Ann did. He got out, saw exactly where he was position wise,
:47:19. > :47:26.and I don't think anyone can beat him. Ultimately, Justin Gatlin, who
:47:26. > :47:34.has been a world champion and Olympic champion, I think think that
:47:34. > :47:40.Justin is definitely the one that is the hungriest man in the field and I
:47:40. > :47:48.believe there is also a sprinkling of young athletes.
:47:48. > :47:51.Let's mention that failed Usain Bolt has defeated for the 100m. Obviously
:47:51. > :47:58.the scandals with Tyson Gay and Asafa Powell, does that weigh
:47:58. > :48:01.heavily on him? Coming through as a Canadian sprinter, world champion,
:48:01. > :48:08.did you feel a sense of responsibility with your performance
:48:08. > :48:11.with other competitors? Back then come if you lost me that
:48:11. > :48:15.question as we were all competing on the circuit, I would have said, no,
:48:16. > :48:19.I am just running a race. But, obviously, reflecting, you
:48:19. > :48:26.understand that it is much more than what it is, the weight is more than
:48:26. > :48:31.you it to be. Obviously, you also have to step back and understand it
:48:31. > :48:37.is really just about a race, and he has to fundamentally think about the
:48:37. > :48:44.little things he has to do to win the race. But I was, as retired
:48:44. > :48:49.athletes, retired champions, we really have to understand and look
:48:49. > :48:54.at him, because if he wins then everyone wins. The sport wins
:48:54. > :49:00.mostly. He wins, Jamaica wins another gold medal, Usain Bolt Boz
:49:00. > :49:03.Michael legendarily studies is still the same, but sport wins. I think he
:49:04. > :49:08.took it on himself quite actively to come out and make bold statements
:49:08. > :49:13.about the drug scandals and how much he felt he had to prove he was a
:49:13. > :49:18.talented individual, I am almost super human, I have been there as a
:49:18. > :49:23.teenager, as an under 23, I have been exceptional. I think, for
:49:23. > :49:29.income it is more than just the race. I think, yes, he wants to
:49:29. > :49:33.win, naturally, but he knows he is the global of this sport. You think
:49:33. > :49:37.of Chris Froome winning the Tour de France, and he has to answer a lot
:49:37. > :49:47.of questions he doesn't want to answer. He brings that seriousness
:49:47. > :49:51.
:49:51. > :49:54.to them. One of the great things about not avoiding the topic and the
:49:54. > :50:04.conversation about drugs with the number one guy in the world is that
:50:04. > :50:07.
:50:07. > :50:10.they asking a question and the -- is hit it right on the head. The
:50:10. > :50:20.massive separation that he has at the highest level is what I saw in
:50:20. > :50:22.
:50:22. > :50:25.the 15-year-old in Jamaica. I never thought of my life that I would see
:50:25. > :50:30.somebody as spasticity has. But that is what he was doing them. As a
:50:30. > :50:35.15-year-old, he was the best in the world. He understands what it is
:50:35. > :50:43.right now. He addressed it. Now we can talk about the results that are
:50:43. > :50:47.happening on the track. You are based in Jamaica a lot of the time,
:50:47. > :50:57.and there is a huge hype around Usain Bolt wherever he goes. Is it
:50:57. > :51:00.
:51:00. > :51:03.the same in Jamaica? The people except in -- accept him? I live in
:51:03. > :51:08.Jamaica in the winter. One of the great things about it is that every
:51:08. > :51:11.single Jamaica and is a celebrity in their own mind. Very serious! That
:51:11. > :51:15.is our culture. We are never impressed by anything or anyone, so
:51:15. > :51:19.I think that one of the greatest things, why people like to live
:51:19. > :51:27.there or go there is that people leave you alone. However, they
:51:27. > :51:31.expect you to do things. If Usain Bolt comes to the pitch -- the
:51:31. > :51:35.Olympic Games, or anyone representing Jamaica, people stop
:51:35. > :51:38.traffic to watch the competition, because the expectation is that
:51:38. > :51:43.every single one of those athletes that is representing Jamaica is
:51:43. > :51:49.bringing back a gold medal. Let's look at his competitors tonight. If
:51:49. > :51:56.there is one athlete who believes he can begin, it will be Justin Gatlin.
:51:56. > :52:04.Yes. Justin has been here. He has been a world champion, and Olympic
:52:04. > :52:08.champion. He totally understands what it takes to win. I was actually
:52:08. > :52:12.quite surprised that he took it as hard as he did, but I realise there
:52:12. > :52:16.are no longer fall rounds at World Championships, so he probably
:52:16. > :52:24.thought, I have one race today, two tomorrow, so today I am going to
:52:24. > :52:32.take it out really hard. I think the surprise mind for me might be Jimmy
:52:32. > :52:36.Vicaut from France. He is probably as big and as strong, maybe not as
:52:36. > :52:42.fast and technically sound as other sprinters, but he absolutely has top
:52:42. > :52:47.end speed as fast as all of these men in the field. If you can get out
:52:47. > :52:50.for the first 30 metres, he will do things that we are not expecting.
:52:50. > :52:54.Three British athletes got through to the semifinals. James Dasaolu was
:52:54. > :53:04.the one with a looking at beforehand. He did not qualify well.
:53:04. > :53:08.
:53:08. > :53:14.Well, you saw Rusty -- rust on James. I don't have to tell anyone
:53:14. > :53:21.here, do have to be mentally at World Championships. It kind of
:53:21. > :53:27.showed a bit. His first 30 metres were terrible. When he got into his
:53:27. > :53:30.acceleration phase, he was looking at the TV to find out where he was
:53:30. > :53:36.that. You really have to be mentally focused. You really have to put the
:53:36. > :53:43.transition together in order to go through the next round. I think that
:53:43. > :53:49.James's huge talent if he is someone that can run 9.8 this weekend. I
:53:49. > :53:54.don't know what his preparation is. I don't know what a night of speed
:53:54. > :54:01.wiki has done over the last ten days. Certainly, he is someone that
:54:01. > :54:09.can do some really good things. It is going to be tough for Harry to
:54:09. > :54:13.make it through. And Dwayne, I am a big fan of him, it is his last, I
:54:13. > :54:23.shouldn't say it is his last... He's a veteran! I am not telling him to
:54:23. > :54:28.retire. I need it is his last... He's a veteran of the sport. He has
:54:28. > :54:32.been here before and been in the finals. As a warrior, I know that
:54:32. > :54:38.Dwayne is going to get out there and give it his all. Going back to James
:54:38. > :54:43.Dasaolu briefly, do you think you almost came out expecting this leads
:54:43. > :54:48.to be easier. The Chinese boy would have shocked. It was almost like,
:54:48. > :54:52.what's going on here? It is not how I played it through in my mind.
:54:52. > :54:57.maybe this is a clear life lesson for James. It does not work that
:54:57. > :55:02.way. If you show up for the major championships, there is nobody on
:55:02. > :55:08.the starting line handing you a gold medal. He has almost been thrust
:55:08. > :55:11.into the limelight. Once you go underneath ten seconds, you get
:55:11. > :55:15.expectations, but he is still not a very seasoned Championship runner,
:55:15. > :55:20.so there's still a lot to learn for him. I think he made a bad call in
:55:20. > :55:24.his race, but you said, he has had hampered preparation and he said he
:55:24. > :55:29.has not done much work out of the blocks. That really showed. He will
:55:29. > :55:38.have to think and behave differently in the semifinal. Unfortunately,
:55:38. > :55:43.Denise, there is not a mentorship programme with your fellow
:55:43. > :55:48.competitors. They are not going to go, James, welcome! Why don't you go
:55:48. > :55:50.through? It is not going to happen! Unfortunately, he has to prepare
:55:50. > :56:00.himself psychologically and physically for a stage like this,
:56:00. > :56:01.
:56:01. > :56:05.and when he is that Alan did, he has run sub ten, he has thrust himself
:56:05. > :56:11.into that psychology that I am now one of the men to beat. He has to
:56:11. > :56:17.show up, walk it and talk it and be it. Absolutely. Endless talking
:56:17. > :56:21.points on the men's 100m, that's for sure. But at another good chance of
:56:21. > :56:27.a medal this evening will be in the long jump. We are going to look at
:56:27. > :56:31.Shara Proctor's qualifying jump. It speaks for itself. It really was
:56:31. > :56:35.outstanding. It was. These qualification rounds are usually
:56:35. > :56:39.qualification rounds are usually very tough. You are not sure of what
:56:39. > :56:44.the conditions are like on the track. But she is an athlete that
:56:44. > :56:51.has had a great couple of seasons, aside from her unfortunate final in
:56:51. > :56:55.London last year. But qualification of 6.75, and she did business on the
:56:55. > :57:00.first jump. Spikes off, back to the village. She is ready. But she
:57:00. > :57:05.cannot make the mistake of thinking about medal for that final. This is
:57:05. > :57:09.the thing. Qualification and finals, you can see how far behind
:57:09. > :57:13.the board she is there, they are completely different things.
:57:13. > :57:18.remember when you were one of the big surprises, because we expected
:57:18. > :57:22.you to walk into the finals, and you you to walk into the finals, and you
:57:22. > :57:25.struggled into the qualifications because it is a demand on you. When
:57:25. > :57:31.there is a demand, it did you have to hit, it makes it more difficult.
:57:31. > :57:39.Of course, yesterday was yesterday. Today is a complete of the day. She
:57:39. > :57:42.has to refocus and gather herself. Jonathan, you are right, because you
:57:42. > :57:48.have to believe you can be a champion. Shara Proctor has to go
:57:48. > :57:51.out there and believe that today is her day. If you don't -- you don't
:57:51. > :57:57.get ahead of yourself and you don't let it play on your mind that you
:57:57. > :58:05.are the furthest qualifier. Ultimately, there should be a
:58:05. > :58:09.hunger. There was an expectation in London that she would be on top of
:58:09. > :58:12.the podium. It shows the difference in all the athletes that are
:58:12. > :58:18.competing in this year's World Championships that she came out, and
:58:18. > :58:22.if she means business, she can go back and relax and know that she is
:58:22. > :58:27.here at the right time. This opportunity, we talk about the
:58:27. > :58:30.small, tiny window of opportunity you have as an athlete, and she will
:58:30. > :58:35.utilise this opportunity to win. Thank you very much. We are back
:58:35. > :58:39.this afternoon, 3:30pm, that is on this afternoon, 3:30pm, that is on
