:00:47. > :00:54.Good evening and welcome to stop,'s stadium. A perfect setting and

:00:54. > :00:58.leaving for live Diamond League athletics receiving. Colin and I

:00:58. > :01:02.are looking to the best of the rest in the world because we have no

:01:03. > :01:07.Brits here this evening. We are going to go racing straightaway

:01:07. > :01:11.because the athletes are out on the track for the men's 400 metres. And

:01:11. > :01:21.400 metres has not been setting the world alight so far but it takes on

:01:21. > :01:27.

:01:27. > :01:34.unseen more this season but LaShawn Merritt is returning to the track,

:01:34. > :01:41.so I think all eyes will be on him. It is a little bit controversial at

:01:41. > :01:47.this moment in time. Some are happy, some are not savvy, but this man

:01:47. > :01:57.will try to get everything off his shoulders. -- not so happy. Why was

:01:57. > :01:59.

:01:59. > :02:04.he banned? He took a drug, a social drug, let's say. They decided that

:02:04. > :02:10.21 months, which is a ban we have never heard of, has allowed him to

:02:10. > :02:19.come back and complete here today. Here's the defending world champion.

:02:19. > :02:24.If you keep that in mind, we are surprised that the USA has let him

:02:24. > :02:31.have competed. One of their roles is that you must compete in the US

:02:31. > :02:40.trials to compete here. And of course he was off when they were on.

:02:40. > :02:47.It was talked about as their male enhancement product and that is why

:02:47. > :02:53.it was not so bad. Some people say has he brought the sport into drug

:02:53. > :02:58.-- disrepute? Some people say, a drug ban is a drug ban and we do

:02:58. > :03:06.not want that reputation in our sport. But the walls are the rules.

:03:06. > :03:13.Let's go over to our commentary team now.

:03:13. > :03:19.His national record, it is mighty impressive but it goes back four

:03:19. > :03:26.years to the championships in Japan, in Osaka. A lot of attention

:03:26. > :03:35.focused on this man, sure no merit. What sort of shape is in? Only a

:03:35. > :03:45.few men have broken 13 seconds this year. Merritt, who has run many,

:03:45. > :03:48.

:03:48. > :03:57.many times under the world-leading time of 44.65, goes in at lane to.

:03:57. > :04:03.The world's fastest this year, Bartholomew, is in lane six. Brown,

:04:03. > :04:13.he appears to be complaining about his number coming off. I suspect he

:04:13. > :04:14.

:04:14. > :04:19.felt the pain digging into him. -- the pain. I used to get numbers put

:04:19. > :04:24.on to my best when I was wearing it, so they were put on in a stretched

:04:24. > :04:32.shape. Maybe some athletes have not learned that particular trick. A

:04:32. > :04:35.lovely evening. It has been a very windy Bay, though. Here we are just

:04:35. > :04:42.hoping this that wind does this. It is easing off a bit and it has

:04:42. > :04:49.almost got chilly here. It has been 24, 25 degrees for much of the day

:04:49. > :04:59.in the Swedish capital. Into their blocks of the second time. The

:04:59. > :04:59.

:04:59. > :05:08.men's 400 metres or stop Quow is in lane one. Christopher Brown is in

:05:08. > :05:13.three for the Bahamas. Jermaine Gonzales is in five. Bartholomew

:05:13. > :05:23.goes in six. Angelo Taylor is in seven. And a local man, Wissman, in

:05:23. > :05:35.

:05:35. > :05:41.Taylor has gone away very quickly. Wissman is really aggressive. How

:05:41. > :05:51.is Bartholomew going? He is a big powerful man. Jermaine Gonzales is

:05:51. > :05:52.

:05:52. > :05:57.going well as well. Bartholomew is leading this very late now. Look at

:05:57. > :06:01.Merritt in two. What a measured performance from the world or

:06:01. > :06:06.Olympic champion, trying to come through on the outside. Look at

:06:06. > :06:14.Merritt. Is he going to come back? It is going to be very tight. I

:06:14. > :06:24.don't know if he got it or not! It was very tight. The winning time,

:06:24. > :06:26.

:06:26. > :06:31.44.70. Just outside the world best remarkably in the last few minutes.

:06:31. > :06:36.Is surprising performance from Bartholomew, but what a good a run

:06:37. > :06:44.it from at Merritt. Yes. I think Gonzales looked as though he had

:06:44. > :06:49.got that, though. A big fellow. He has been running well this year. He

:06:49. > :06:54.has got some good times to his name this season. That is a big

:06:54. > :07:04.improvement indeed for this fellow. He has promised and delivered, at

:07:04. > :07:04.

:07:04. > :07:12.last. I think, yes, he has won it. What about that? Christopher Brown

:07:12. > :07:16.gets the third place. My goodness! A tough finish. And they all closed

:07:16. > :07:23.down on each other in the final stages. Brown was in the mix as

:07:23. > :07:33.well. Angelo Taylor on 44.82 in 4th place. Almost seven, we have a

:07:33. > :07:38.

:07:38. > :07:43.decent 400 metres race here. -- all of race son of. 45 seconds had not

:07:43. > :07:53.been broken before tonight. Jermaine Gonzales has broken 45

:07:53. > :08:03.

:08:03. > :08:10.seconds for the first time, beating Well, 44.74 in his first race back?

:08:10. > :08:15.Very impressive indeed. But you must remember, he is the Olympic

:08:15. > :08:18.champion and world champion, so for me, a solid opening and good

:08:18. > :08:23.performance and he has made it clear Bobby he is a threat for the

:08:23. > :08:28.World Championships. He has done all of those things and is a class

:08:28. > :08:36.act, but nevertheless, to have been out bore all that time and to come

:08:36. > :08:40.back into the next, it is tough? went up quite gingerly for him. For

:08:40. > :08:45.me, I was expecting him to go a bit more aggressive to test himself,

:08:45. > :08:50.but to finish second in that field, it is not going to be much tougher

:08:50. > :08:55.at the World Championships because he has done such... It has been

:08:55. > :09:01.such a weak event and he has turned it into such a positive event. And

:09:01. > :09:07.here is the man himself. Thank you for coming to speak to us. Can you

:09:07. > :09:12.describe your emotions being back on the track after the ban?

:09:12. > :09:18.man! I wanted to knock some of them out. I feel good physically and now

:09:18. > :09:22.I am getting ready for the Worlds. What response to fill you have been

:09:22. > :09:28.getting from the crowd? Some people have strong feelings about what has

:09:29. > :09:36.happened? I just want to thanks .com person before inviting me to

:09:36. > :09:41.this meet. I need to work on a couple of things and get ready for

:09:41. > :09:48.the championships. People are a bit cynical about the reason for a

:09:48. > :09:53.positive test. What would you say to them? My mum, my team, they

:09:53. > :09:58.believed in me. They keep believing in me. I am clean, and likewise

:09:58. > :10:05.said, I am just getting ready for the World Championships. -- and

:10:05. > :10:15.like I said. You must feel like a contender? Yes, I never felt I

:10:15. > :10:21.wasn't. I can't complain. It is kind of chilly. No excuses. But I

:10:21. > :10:27.got it out. The other thing is, no drugs ban finished on 27th July.

:10:27. > :10:34.One year to go till the London Olympics. Do you get a sense of how

:10:34. > :10:39.that appeal might go? I am just keeping it up to got to figure that

:10:39. > :10:46.thing out. Right now, my focus is on the World Championships. And the

:10:46. > :10:54.title. I mentioned the event director, Rajne Soderberg, who is

:10:54. > :10:59.also the president at for the Euro meet. Caff are the ones who put the

:11:00. > :11:05.ban for athletes. -- they are the ones. We looked over the situation

:11:05. > :11:12.and we said, he has not put the sport in real disrepute with what

:11:12. > :11:18.he did. He has not been caught with any kind of doping substances in

:11:18. > :11:24.his car or anything else. So I think in this case, it is OK. I

:11:24. > :11:27.think we should let him run. Because the American Federation

:11:27. > :11:32.also let him compete in the World Championships, even though he was

:11:32. > :11:38.not able to compete in the trials, which is their strict rules for

:11:38. > :11:41.years and years. He was exempt, in this case. So that says something

:11:41. > :11:46.about the sports world and what it thinks about his specific case and

:11:46. > :11:51.that is why we decided he could run here.

:11:51. > :11:58.It is worth just clarifying the circumstances around these European

:11:59. > :12:03.meets. It was a court case that took place in Switzerland. They

:12:03. > :12:07.wanted to step back and realised they did not... It seemed to be

:12:07. > :12:13.like a cartel and they were ordering people that they shouldn't

:12:13. > :12:18.invite. They have eased back now and are abiding by the rules.

:12:18. > :12:23.said, Dwain Chambers has now not got an invitation? No, it is still

:12:23. > :12:27.going to be down to the meet directors to decide. Her a pretty

:12:27. > :12:32.dramatic start to events here in Stockholm. But plenty more to look

:12:32. > :12:35.forward to. Impossible to miss David Oliver.

:12:35. > :12:42.The American is the biggest and best when it comes to the 110-metre

:12:42. > :12:46.hurdles. The women's 800 metres will be

:12:46. > :12:50.competitive, as always, and features world's reigning champion

:12:50. > :12:56.Caster Semenya. And she's the quickest woman around

:12:56. > :13:00.on two legs at the moment. Carmelita Jeter runs her first race

:13:00. > :13:09.since the American trials. But these days, everybody plays

:13:09. > :13:19.second fiddle to the bold. It is Usain Bolt.

:13:19. > :13:26.

:13:26. > :13:35.action, and just to remind you, we don't have control over the

:13:35. > :13:45.coverage, so we will show you what we can. Straight back on with the

:13:45. > :13:48.

:13:48. > :13:54.action. There she is, the women's world champion. And there's Caster

:13:54. > :14:04.Semenya. She has had a tough time. It is going to be interesting to

:14:04. > :14:21.

:14:21. > :14:27.there but the Russian championship is running 1.50 6.95. Look at how

:14:27. > :14:31.Sinclair has got right in. Andrianova is coming across, the

:14:31. > :14:34.pacemaker. Sinclair, she was 6th in the Olympic Games, only semi-

:14:34. > :14:39.finalist in the last world championships. She's gone right

:14:39. > :14:47.into the lead there. Klyuka is coming across, she was fourth in

:14:47. > :14:52.the Russian championships. Montano is in third place. Second place in

:14:52. > :14:56.the race proper. Look at Caster Semenya. She's right at the back of

:14:56. > :15:00.the field. That's the best way of describing her technique, she's

:15:00. > :15:05.lumbering round. She's so powerful and muscular. She's got a lot of

:15:05. > :15:09.hard running today because she's probably 15 metres behind Sinclair

:15:09. > :15:15.at the moment. Sinclair has sold has a good 10 or 12 metres on the

:15:15. > :15:24.entire pack. Sinclair was the only one who went with the pace. Klyuka

:15:24. > :15:34.is behind her and then you've got Montano. That big pack right behind

:15:34. > :15:36.

:15:37. > :15:41.season. Didn't do very well in the world championships last year. With

:15:41. > :15:45.200m to go, completely dominating this race. If she's got the power

:15:45. > :15:55.to hang on to this, and one would expect she would have with the

:15:55. > :15:58.

:15:58. > :16:07.winner over 1500m. There's a big gap. Certainly since Sinclair went

:16:07. > :16:13.off and it meant business. A big win for her. Akkaoui coming through

:16:13. > :16:23.to take second place. Santiusti in third place. No doubt about the

:16:23. > :16:29.winner. That signals a very good, solid performance by her. She

:16:29. > :16:35.really went with the pace. She was the only one that did at 400m. My

:16:35. > :16:41.goodness, his season's best to show the sort of form. What about Caster

:16:41. > :16:46.Semenya? Once again lumbering round. It really wasn't a very good

:16:46. > :16:53.performance at all. Very difficult to explain that. It's strange.

:16:53. > :16:58.Sinclair had the form of her life. It's a season's best. She ran a

:16:58. > :17:04.time trial there. Really impressive. There's a lot more in her tank. By

:17:04. > :17:07.contrast, Semenya never really left the back of the field. At times in

:17:07. > :17:12.the last 300 I thought you might do something special to come through,

:17:12. > :17:15.but it was nothing special. She will have run away outside two

:17:15. > :17:19.minutes. Her season is so inconsistent. It's astonishing. But

:17:19. > :17:24.Sinclair, she's the real deal and I think she might be a threat to the

:17:24. > :17:34.Russians come the World Championships. There's the line-up

:17:34. > :18:01.

:18:01. > :18:04.That was surprising there, a great performance from Sinclair but

:18:04. > :18:11.disappointing from Caster Semenya. What happened in that race, you

:18:11. > :18:18.were so far off the pace? I don't know, I just felt heavy. It's one

:18:18. > :18:23.of those days, you know. I couldn't race. I know it has been a long

:18:23. > :18:28.time not running but from my side, I'm quite happy with the

:18:28. > :18:35.performance. Even though I didn't run the race I wanted to run. I was

:18:35. > :18:40.expecting to run faster but from the start I felt... I just felt a

:18:40. > :18:44.little bit heavy, so I just kept on going. Like I said before, if I've

:18:44. > :18:49.started the race I have to finish, I don't quit. I guess next time I

:18:49. > :18:53.will do well. I hope so. The World Championships coming up fast, you

:18:53. > :19:01.are defending your title. It's not the sort of performance you'd want

:19:01. > :19:07.leading up to that. The yeah, it's a little bit upsetting. I guess it

:19:07. > :19:15.wasn't my day. I just need to go back and train, that's all. Banks

:19:15. > :19:18.was speaking to us. -- thanks for speaking to worse. Yelena

:19:18. > :19:24.Isinbayeva in the pole vault later. The night before the main meeting

:19:24. > :19:30.they have a shot put competition, men and women's, in the square. We

:19:30. > :19:34.had a great men's shot put. Christian Cadwell winning that.

:19:34. > :19:38.They love that competition. Absolutely. What is fascinating to

:19:38. > :19:44.me is that is as good as it is going to get in the world

:19:44. > :19:47.championships. It's a great performance, incredible. That

:19:47. > :19:57.wasn't a Diamond League competition but the women's was. Let's catch up

:19:57. > :20:04.

:20:04. > :20:13.for the competition. This is similar to the sort of thing that

:20:13. > :20:18.happens in Manchester. Third place was the US competitor. Followed

:20:18. > :20:25.Aynho thrown in the first round with 19.87 in the second to gain

:20:26. > :20:35.third place. Only two valid throws in this series. Second best was

:20:36. > :20:39.

:20:39. > :20:47.19.57. Ostapchuk was second. Look at that, nice, linear technique.

:20:47. > :20:53.That's a big throw. Well over 20 metres. 20.37. But couldn't hold

:20:53. > :20:58.off this woman. Valerie Adams, of New Zealand. She prevailed again,

:20:58. > :21:05.the twice world champion, the Olympic champion. She opened with

:21:05. > :21:08.19.59 and in round two, 20.57. She's So tall and bayed and has

:21:08. > :21:12.such long levers and such power that she is going to be very

:21:12. > :21:22.difficult to beat in those world championships. She is an

:21:22. > :21:42.

:21:42. > :21:46.ahead of the rest, but remember Stockholm, but special thoughts

:21:46. > :21:50.with Thorkildsen, the reigning world and Olympic champion, he's

:21:50. > :21:55.drawing tonight. We hope things go well for him. The women's 100m

:21:55. > :21:59.coming up next with Carmelita Jeter, the fastest woman in the world, the

:21:59. > :22:02.second fastest woman of all time. Before that, let's talk about Jody

:22:02. > :22:06.Williams and double gold in the European Junior Championships.

:22:06. > :22:12.was named the athlete of the meat. It's another great accolade for her.

:22:12. > :22:20.Great personal best in that 100m. 11.18. As a youngster, she's not

:22:20. > :22:25.really out there on her own. There's an American young lady out

:22:25. > :22:28.there who has run at 11.02. She will know it's going to be tough

:22:28. > :22:35.out there when it comes to those head-to-head competitions with

:22:35. > :22:43.people her own age. It's interesting, she's chosen not to go

:22:43. > :22:50.for the World Championships. How I think it's a good idea. She

:22:50. > :22:54.doesn't need to put herself under that kind of pressure. A major gold

:22:54. > :22:58.this year was to do the European juniors, get those doubles under

:22:58. > :23:03.her belt. Once she's achieved that, she can concentrate on her school

:23:03. > :23:07.work. She has gained experience already from the senior

:23:07. > :23:11.championships, the European indoors, something we have always said is a

:23:11. > :23:14.great championships. She was successful there, running a

:23:15. > :23:20.personal best. For me, I think it's a wise decision. She's got plenty

:23:20. > :23:23.of years in front of her to really shine. Some would say, though, the

:23:23. > :23:27.World Championships is as close as it gets to an Olympic Games. She

:23:27. > :23:31.bit mature next year come 20 tow, it might have been good to go and

:23:31. > :23:34.feel what it was like at a big competition. The European indoors

:23:34. > :23:39.are great for athletes but very different from an outdoor world

:23:39. > :23:43.championships. Absolutely, and I understand what people may say. But

:23:43. > :23:47.the true experience you gain from going out in a semi-final, it's not

:23:47. > :23:53.necessarily for her. She's already been very successful. We know what

:23:53. > :23:56.she's capable of doing. For me, it's just taking a little bit of a

:23:56. > :24:00.balance and looking forward to next year. The pressure is off, she can

:24:00. > :24:05.just train, another winter behind her. I think she will raise her

:24:05. > :24:15.game yet again. The women's 100m coming up shortly, but let's catch

:24:15. > :24:27.

:24:27. > :24:30.up with what happened in the and then a meeting record. She

:24:31. > :24:34.ended up the third on countback when that best jump was equalled

:24:34. > :24:42.that the very best next jump. Here, you can see the second place,

:24:42. > :24:52.Savigne, the world champion in 2007 and 2009. 14.87. She almost went

:24:52. > :24:59.

:24:59. > :25:03.further but the early effort last year. Bounding out in her

:25:04. > :25:13.first Diamond League meeting. She lost to so been in Oslo and Paris

:25:14. > :25:30.

:25:30. > :25:36.but her first Diamond League win, 100m. We've just seen Carmelita

:25:36. > :25:41.Jeter introduced to the crowd. It's going to be a fast race, Colin.

:25:41. > :25:46.hope it's going to be a super fast race. We are looking at three women

:25:46. > :25:54.who've gone under 11 seconds this year. They are going to go head-to-

:25:54. > :25:57.head. It's a good indicator for us of what 100 Mr Shaikh per jete is

:25:57. > :26:07.in. The first race back after the year's championships, I'm

:26:07. > :26:07.

:26:07. > :27:10.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 63 seconds

:27:10. > :27:20.interested to see how she takes on got away very well. Myers going

:27:20. > :27:20.

:27:20. > :27:28.strongly. Jeter moving towards the middle. The time, 11.14. Jete

:27:29. > :27:35.really held on in the end. That was some performance by Carmelita Jeter.

:27:35. > :27:41.It went very much with the form book. Myers got away well and so

:27:41. > :27:46.did Stewart. Yes, it took a little while to really catch up and move

:27:46. > :27:49.ahead from the athlete to her left, Myers, who had a really strong run,

:27:49. > :27:59.considering they are running in such a strong headwind that is not

:27:59. > :28:04.

:28:04. > :28:08.it's going pretty much to form. Carmelita Jeter, I have heard down

:28:08. > :28:13.as a favourite for the World Championships at 100m. There might

:28:13. > :28:22.be one or two other athletes who like to see -- say a thing or two

:28:22. > :28:27.about that, including Campbell of Jamaica. Nobody would break 11

:28:27. > :28:31.seconds in those conditions. She is very dominant at the moment. She

:28:31. > :28:41.showed great fortitude at the final stages of the race. She must have

:28:41. > :28:47.

:28:47. > :28:57.sensed Myers coming up under her Thorkildsen in this javelin

:28:57. > :29:01.

:29:01. > :29:07.me! First round, best effort so far. 78 metres by Vesely of the Czech

:29:07. > :29:16.Republic. But De Zordo, and usually a left-handed thrower, really hits

:29:16. > :29:26.that hard. It's about 83 metres. Not a bad open at all. 83.14. He's

:29:26. > :29:29.

:29:29. > :29:36.Who is going to be taking the 200 metres? It will probably be Bolt.

:29:36. > :29:41.But next, we have the men's steeplechase. It was explosive

:29:41. > :29:51.blast time when it took place in Monaco at the last Diamond League

:29:51. > :29:55.

:29:55. > :30:02.A number British record for Mo Farah! A great run by Pearson.

:30:02. > :30:08.will be another British record. that is the Angelo Taylor that we

:30:08. > :30:17.note coming into a major championship. Very clean clearance

:30:17. > :30:21.from a Vlasic. That is more like it! A beautiful looking runner.

:30:21. > :30:31.Look how strong she is. Look at the form she holds down the long

:30:31. > :30:56.

:30:56. > :31:01.world's best. But he smashes it. This is a big, big win for her.

:31:01. > :31:07.quite as good has he wants yet but certainly good enough to take the

:31:07. > :31:14.lead. Kiplagat. He beat the Olympic champion in his own national

:31:14. > :31:19.championships and now he has been in a very good field. Oh, my

:31:19. > :31:26.goodness! What is going on? That is not... I do not think I have ever,

:31:26. > :31:36.ever seen that at an athletics meeting. Look how hard Usain Bolt

:31:36. > :31:41.

:31:41. > :31:47.is working. That is quick, very And it's hard to believe that all

:31:47. > :31:51.happened in one meeting! Lot of great athletics to talk about, but

:31:51. > :31:57.let's talk about the scrap, which I hope you should never see on an

:31:57. > :32:02.athletics track. Yes, it was so strange to see. When I heard it was

:32:02. > :32:06.taking place, I could not believe what I was seeing. It is unheard of

:32:06. > :32:11.and I would hope French athletics will not take this seriously, the

:32:11. > :32:19.account of what happened. And I think they should have some sort of

:32:19. > :32:25.punishment, both of them are. have been apologetic, haven't they?

:32:25. > :32:30.Yes, but if you have a disagreement, just taken outside of the athletics

:32:30. > :32:35.stadium. We don't need to see it there. We next have the

:32:35. > :32:39.steeplechase and that was probably the event of the meet there?

:32:39. > :32:49.know, of all the results that night, that was the most surprising. I

:32:49. > :32:50.

:32:50. > :33:00.know how incredibly talented he is, and we are not used to seeing a

:33:00. > :33:01.

:33:01. > :33:04.seven, eight-minute steeple race. Now, not so. It was breathtaking. I

:33:04. > :33:13.am looking forward to the worlds to see who can attack that world

:33:13. > :33:19.record. A lot of analysis of how well Usain Bolt is run in. His

:33:19. > :33:29.Susan's best, nine point 98, but only just winning. You are right,

:33:29. > :33:34.only just winning. There's many, many athletes out there who might

:33:34. > :33:40.believe that they are not at their best but still a world leader. It

:33:40. > :33:50.will be interesting how he feels going into this World Championships.

:33:50. > :33:55.

:33:55. > :34:01.We will see him later on and find has been one of their favourites

:34:01. > :34:05.over the years. Now, where has that gone? A long way, by the look of it.

:34:05. > :34:12.That shows you that this fellow, when it comes to championships, so

:34:12. > :34:19.difficult. He has got gold or silver at every Olympic, world or

:34:19. > :34:24.European Championships sings in 2004. He has been a Olympic, world

:34:24. > :34:34.and European champion. He sits in his hotel and has a little beer

:34:34. > :34:36.

:34:36. > :34:44.here or there. He enjoys himself. Let's look at the British

:34:44. > :34:49.performance in Monaco. Mo Farah, once again, Supreme. Dare I say it.

:34:49. > :34:53.It is good to see he believes he is the full package. You can see it

:34:53. > :34:57.when he goes on to the track. They are taking very seriously and they

:34:57. > :35:06.know he is full of Thailand. We have seen it from a young age and

:35:06. > :35:13.we have been waiting for it to come through. -- full of talent.

:35:13. > :35:17.transformation has been quite... Almost unbelievable? Yes. Winning

:35:17. > :35:22.two titles at the European Championships - what that has done

:35:22. > :35:25.for him is unbelievable. It has given him belief and self belief in

:35:25. > :35:29.athletics is a strong thing to happen under you. To know that you

:35:29. > :35:33.were doing the right thing and not to care what anybody else is saying,

:35:33. > :35:40.to note it is the right thing for you. Mo Farah has proved that is

:35:40. > :35:47.what has happened for him. I am really pleased for him. Now he is

:35:47. > :35:54.where he is now. And he could have a shout at a bronze medal? Yes. If

:35:54. > :35:59.you remember, lots of times, we always say, a new record but not

:35:59. > :36:09.quite the personal best. But we will be seeing Jessica Ennis at the

:36:09. > :36:13.

:36:13. > :36:23.weekend. And the other race, where Angelo Taylor did so well? Yes, and

:36:23. > :36:23.

:36:23. > :36:32.he has done so well here as well. He still actually has something to

:36:32. > :36:39.prove to himself, does dive. He will understand that when you go at

:36:40. > :36:48.one major championship, you start at zero. -- does dyed green. Don't

:36:48. > :36:55.write him off for a medal, or even a gold medal. His technique is so

:36:55. > :37:00.good and so is his mind set. I do not think he will be deflected?

:37:00. > :37:04.But he is one of these people who is quite aggressive. He knows he

:37:04. > :37:08.wants to win championships and knows he is capable of going under

:37:09. > :37:13.14 seconds. When you can get under that magical barrier, anything is

:37:13. > :37:18.possible. I believe he is in great shape and he has been more

:37:18. > :37:22.consistent than anything else. So as far as I am concerned, I take my

:37:22. > :37:27.hat off to him. He has worked hard to put himself in a good position

:37:27. > :37:37.for this year and next. Let's go out and join the action with the

:37:37. > :37:48.

:37:48. > :37:55.even better. I tell you what. Mitchell Watt, a best of 8.44, and

:37:55. > :38:00.he is spot on the board. And that looked to be over 80 metres. 8.59

:38:00. > :38:10.is the meeting record set by Ivan Pedro's of. It might not be that

:38:10. > :38:13.

:38:13. > :38:23.far but it could be. What has he got? A new personal best, 8.54.

:38:23. > :38:24.

:38:24. > :38:31.Just short of that 1997 meeting record by Ivan Pedroso. Brilliant

:38:31. > :38:37.stuff. And it Saladino has to follow that. The Olympic champion.

:38:37. > :38:43.The world champion back in Osaka. He has been indoors and out, and

:38:43. > :38:47.successful at both. But really, Mitchell Watt, he powered down that

:38:48. > :38:56.runway. Totally different stature to Saladino, but he has an edge

:38:56. > :39:02.which is quite impressive. What can Saladino do? And that's just over

:39:02. > :39:12.eight and looks better. It has certainly got the white flag. Now,

:39:12. > :39:18.Crowther has got into second place. Saladino's best so far, 8.03. What

:39:18. > :39:26.has he got? Lots of lift off the board and good control in the air.

:39:26. > :39:36.A little word with his coaches along the side. What's he done?

:39:36. > :39:43.8.19. That is better. He is in second place. Wow! Well, this

:39:43. > :39:53.steeplechase, they have gone through. In third place is Kiplagat

:39:53. > :39:59.

:39:59. > :40:04.and it is building up nicely. now the second round of the javelin.

:40:04. > :40:14.And that is just short of 85, and that's a very, very good

:40:14. > :40:23.

:40:23. > :40:32.performance. He has had 81.4 p 7. - - 81.47. What has he done? He is

:40:32. > :40:42.now in second. 84.21. This man has to be hungry to prove what he could

:40:42. > :40:42.

:40:42. > :40:48.have done. Not even a place in the Kenyan team after that poor, poor

:40:48. > :40:57.run in Nairobi. These two are building up a sizable lead.

:40:57. > :41:05.Kiplagat in second. Koech knows he is hurting the man behind him,

:41:05. > :41:11.doing a lot of damage. And Kipchoge back in third place. But 40, maybe

:41:11. > :41:19.50 metres down. This really is a measure of just how hard Koech is

:41:19. > :41:28.going. That is interesting. Koech puts his foot on it. Most of the

:41:28. > :41:38.Kenyans Clairette, like a 400-metre hurdle, and fly over it. -- most of

:41:38. > :41:40.

:41:40. > :41:50.the Kenyans clear it. The strength of the little man. He begins to

:41:50. > :41:54.

:41:54. > :42:04.move clear. The fastest man in history, Paul Koech. Now into the

:42:04. > :42:07.

:42:07. > :42:17.back straight. 15, 20 metres. He is pouring yet in. A couple of slow

:42:17. > :42:19.

:42:19. > :42:29.laps in the middle section, but maybe the win was not the priority.

:42:29. > :42:30.

:42:30. > :42:36.He has opened up 20 metres. Over this last lap. The final barrier,

:42:36. > :42:41.and it is going to be a very comfortable win, as expected. The

:42:41. > :42:51.time is not going to be too bad at all. It is outside eight minutes,

:42:51. > :42:51.

:42:51. > :42:57.but quick nonetheless. It is somewhere outside that meeting

:42:57. > :43:01.record that he said four years ago, but nonetheless, a truly dominant

:43:01. > :43:04.run and more confirmation of how dominant the Kenyans are in this

:43:04. > :43:09.discipline generally. When you think he was 7th in the

:43:09. > :43:19.championships a couple of weeks back? Yes, and thinking back to

:43:19. > :43:19.

:43:19. > :43:26.Monaco. We watched Kipruto hammered out a very fine steeplechase.

:43:26. > :43:32.And another huge throw! He turned away from it. He knew that was good.

:43:32. > :43:38.Really moved into it, hit in very, very hard. He is the champion and

:43:38. > :43:48.that is a big, big throw. He is moving way out into the lead. That

:43:48. > :43:52.is his Susan's best. 88.4 D 34 Andreas Thorkildsen. -- season's

:43:52. > :43:59.best. He is getting better and better and will be very difficult

:43:59. > :44:06.to beat. And now Koech, third in that super

:44:06. > :44:16.braise in Monaco. He went under eight minutes. -- in that superb at

:44:16. > :44:18.

:44:18. > :44:28.race. Another good win. It is very blustery out there and may have had

:44:28. > :44:32.

:44:32. > :44:35.an effect on them. But nevertheless, A special performance there from

:44:35. > :44:40.Thorkildsen in the javelin. Next on the track, this man's favourite

:44:40. > :44:44.event, the hurdles. It features David Oliver Paul Stout hears an

:44:44. > :44:48.insight into the things he likes and the things he doesn't. Hello,

:44:48. > :44:52.I'm David Oliver, her love for the United States. I don't have any bad

:44:52. > :44:56.habits, you might have to ask somebody else about that one. The

:44:56. > :45:03.last time I had junk food was about five minutes ago. It felt good

:45:03. > :45:08.going down. If I wasn't an athlete I would probably be a firefighter

:45:08. > :45:18.wherever I lived at. That's something I want to pursue when I

:45:18. > :45:18.

:45:18. > :45:23.One of track and Field's real characters. The disappointing thing

:45:23. > :45:27.about this evening is we had expected the head to head but when

:45:27. > :45:31.him and Dayron Robles, but Robles has this not at the moment of

:45:31. > :45:34.getting injured. The yes, he seems to be a bit fragile at the moment.

:45:34. > :45:41.But he's protecting himself because they're rather major championships

:45:41. > :45:46.that he wants to go out and win. Dayron Robles injured himself in

:45:46. > :45:52.Barcelona. He hit his foot but he's still hoping to be in London. We

:45:52. > :45:59.will see the big clash hopefully in London. And very close in Paris,

:45:59. > :46:03.wasn't it? Paris was a brace indeed. I always love watching that type of

:46:03. > :46:08.competition. You have two complete the different runners technically.

:46:08. > :46:12.David is far more aggressive, Dayron is far more fluid and

:46:12. > :46:19.natural as a hurdler. To get to that line and not be able to call

:46:19. > :46:26.the victor was a great thing to see. Adding to that the Chinese athlete.

:46:26. > :46:31.We've got a really hot race that I'm anticipating. It could be one

:46:31. > :46:35.of the great races, the three of them all looking 12.9, running

:46:35. > :46:42.incredibly quickly. As someone who knows this event Inside Out, where

:46:42. > :46:47.would you analyse the strengths and weaknesses? Who is going to blink

:46:47. > :46:52.their -- first? You have three completely different hurdlers. Luge

:46:52. > :46:57.Yang is more of a crafted hurdler. He's been crafted and he's very

:46:57. > :47:02.effective. I love that about him. Then you have David, or aggression,

:47:02. > :47:07.he's big, strong and fast. He loves going at those hurdles. Next to

:47:08. > :47:13.that you've got the floater, Dayron Robles, who takes the event in his

:47:13. > :47:17.stride. There's absolutely nothing you can call. You choose your

:47:17. > :47:22.technique. But if you are asking me to put some money down on the

:47:22. > :47:26.victor, I would go for the Chinese competitor up. He is so perfectly

:47:26. > :47:30.technically great. That's the reason why I'm going for him. When

:47:30. > :47:31.you are under pressure, when the real pressure is on as you are

:47:31. > :47:35.real pressure is on as you are coming to the final barriers,

:47:35. > :47:36.that's when you rely on the technique. Because he has been

:47:36. > :47:41.technique. Because he has been drilled so well, I'm leaning

:47:41. > :47:45.towards him at this moment. That said, David Oliver had a great

:47:45. > :47:48.season last year and he's been running well again this year. The

:47:48. > :47:52.other two have injury issues. Perhaps they might be a bit rusty.

:47:52. > :47:57.Oliver is the one who has the consistent form, the confidence

:47:57. > :48:02.that we talked about. That is very true. The beauty of hurdles is when

:48:02. > :48:07.you Trai you can Alter the distance between hurdles to absolutely get

:48:07. > :48:13.an accurate reading, how you will be at different parts of the race.

:48:13. > :48:21.You can prepare very easily without racing. That's why am still leaning

:48:21. > :48:27.towards Agen, even though we haven't seen him raise too much.

:48:27. > :48:33.It's going to be tight but I think that it's still him. I'm really

:48:33. > :48:38.calling him. Let's play fantasy 110m hurdles. At their very best,

:48:38. > :48:44.in the perfect race, he would go the fastest and where could they

:48:44. > :48:48.put the record? The perfect race, everything going on. Because of the

:48:48. > :48:52.natural ability of Robles, I would call him. He's the current world

:48:52. > :48:58.record holder. If he stayed completely injury-free, he could

:48:58. > :49:03.lower the world record to around 12.80. Because he's such a

:49:03. > :49:08.naturally fluent hurdler. But, unfortunately, as we've seen, he's

:49:08. > :49:15.very fragile. That is what has set him back. Because you still need to

:49:15. > :49:25.keep her bling as much as you can to progress in the event. -- keep

:49:25. > :49:28.

:49:28. > :49:34.hurdling. Can you expect something quick tonight? Yes. If you think

:49:34. > :49:39.about what can be done. I'm looking... The conditions on a

:49:39. > :49:44.little bit chilly but I think he could get to 19.7 mark. He's more

:49:44. > :49:50.than capable of doing that. But what a luxury to be nearly half a

:49:50. > :49:55.second off your best and still be a world leader. Fantastic for him.

:49:55. > :50:00.Diamond is on offer for a stadium record, to a certain Michael

:50:00. > :50:05.Johnson. I think he'd like to take that record - for good reason!

:50:05. > :50:11.old Michael, Usain Bolt taking every single record that he's got.

:50:11. > :50:21.Yes, but life moves on. Even one day your record will go. Bad news

:50:21. > :50:22.

:50:23. > :50:29.for you there! Let's go to the tonight but married macro is

:50:29. > :50:34.running very well indeed. -- Merritt. David looked very

:50:34. > :50:37.comfortable in qualifying. He ran 13.38 to qualify for this final. He

:50:37. > :50:41.knows all his big American opponents. With that in mind, he

:50:41. > :50:46.should take a comfortable victory. He'll be disappointed that Robles

:50:47. > :50:49.isn't here. That could be a bit of a downside. When you prepare

:50:50. > :50:53.yourself for a head-to-head competition at all of a sudden

:50:53. > :50:58.you're major rival this appears, you can slightly lower your mental

:50:59. > :51:04.state. That could be tricky in this event. But he would want to put one

:51:04. > :51:09.on all of these guys and show why he is the number one American and

:51:10. > :51:17.white he possibly could take this title. -- why he could possibly

:51:17. > :51:21.take this title. The conditions here, into a headwind. What kind of

:51:21. > :51:26.effect does that have on the hurdlers? Judging between hurdles

:51:26. > :51:30.cover the distance is very important. Someone like David is

:51:30. > :51:40.very big and strong, he is fine. He can open up his stride and make it

:51:40. > :51:49.a bit more aggressive and closer to a sprint stride. We can look for

:51:49. > :51:54.him running pretty quickly. They are a very different build. Yes,

:51:54. > :52:00.Merritt is very spider like. He took my metre record. This man we

:52:00. > :52:04.are about to see, Richardson, he actually beat Merritt in the

:52:04. > :52:11.qualification round and round it very well indeed, 13.20. Watch out

:52:11. > :52:21.for him also. The men's 110m hurdles. Back over to tame and

:52:21. > :52:34.

:52:34. > :52:40.big man, a rugged, dynamic, in total contrast to Dayron Robles. He

:52:40. > :52:45.has such a powerful technique. Hit hurdles and he can get into trouble.

:52:45. > :52:55.That's been proven in the past. Unbeaten last year, he really was

:52:55. > :53:32.

:53:32. > :53:38.well. Oliver is coming back at him. Richardson has got it. Oliver in

:53:38. > :53:43.second place. In lane three was Thomas. Its 13.17. What a scalp

:53:43. > :53:47.that was by this man. He won his heat in 13.20. I have a Phelan

:53:47. > :53:52.David Oliver really wasn't looking with great edge. Jason Richardson

:53:52. > :53:57.of the United States of America. He was third in the American trials.

:53:57. > :54:01.Have a look at this. He got away brilliantly. Makes room for the

:54:01. > :54:06.hurdles well. His trail leg his quick. Look at the way in which

:54:06. > :54:11.David Oliver is hitting hurdles, trying to get his technique and the

:54:11. > :54:19.them back. He never recovered from a dreadful start, David Oliver.

:54:19. > :54:29.13.17 for Richardson, his personal best is only 13.15. That was into a

:54:29. > :54:32.

:54:32. > :54:42.headwind. Now all over to the pole character. It is the one and only

:54:42. > :54:46.

:54:47. > :54:51.to me. That wouldn't have done her confidence any good at all. I think

:54:51. > :55:01.she should have come in for a sighting of vault, something to get

:55:01. > :55:05.

:55:05. > :55:11.She is not alone. The only difference is that she hasn't

:55:11. > :55:16.cleared a single high to get. at the hurdles again. I'm very

:55:16. > :55:21.impressed with Jason Richardson, second from the left. He really is

:55:21. > :55:25.a fluent hurdler. Terrific read them. That trail leg is as good as

:55:25. > :55:30.I've seen. It's so fast. That means that the lead leg comes down quick,

:55:30. > :55:34.too. He attacks the hurdle brilliantly. Leaning into the

:55:34. > :55:42.hurdles. Look at the way David Oliver is hitting hurdles, trying

:55:42. > :55:47.to come back at him. Merritt is under pressure as well. Just a

:55:47. > :55:57.couple of hundreds of his personal best into a headwind. Watch out for

:55:57. > :56:23.

:56:23. > :56:26.him in the championships because Impressive it was and a bit of a

:56:26. > :56:33.shock, David Oliver alongside us now. Not the result we were

:56:33. > :56:39.expecting. Talk us through the race. I got a decent start but I hit the

:56:39. > :56:47.number four Hurdle. It knocked me out of the race with them. It's one

:56:47. > :56:51.of those things that happens. I've just got to get a bit better. I'm

:56:51. > :56:55.getting ready for next week in London. The fact you didn't have

:56:55. > :56:59.Robles in the race, was that in any way a lack of concentration on your

:56:59. > :57:03.part because you thought you'd probably win it anyway? Whenever

:57:03. > :57:08.you go into a race you can't really think you are going to win. There's

:57:08. > :57:12.always a high level of talent in these races. I did what I could. At

:57:12. > :57:16.the end of the day it just wasn't good enough. What about the head

:57:16. > :57:20.wind, the fact you hit a hurdle with a head wind made it more

:57:20. > :57:24.penalising. I'm not sure. It's the same headwind for everybody in the

:57:24. > :57:33.field, you can't really use that as an excuse. I didn't run up to my

:57:34. > :57:38.level today. I just need to get a Very equitable about it but a bit

:57:38. > :57:40.of a shock none the less. Yes, it was interesting what David said.

:57:40. > :57:46.was interesting what David said. Sometimes when you do not have

:57:46. > :57:49.quite the right rhythm then it does completely knock you off. I saw

:57:49. > :57:55.Andy Turner suffered from the same thing a couple of times at major

:57:55. > :58:01.championships. But David seems to not be in the group today. That can

:58:01. > :58:09.have a real detrimental effect. You Sky hurdles at it and the next one

:58:09. > :58:13.you end up hitting. This can happen. It still was a sensational run by

:58:13. > :58:17.Jason. A tremendous performance. A very strong headwind and a great

:58:17. > :58:21.time. It does kind of signify that he could possibly, in good

:58:21. > :58:26.conditions, get under that magical 13 second barrier, which would put

:58:26. > :58:31.him right in the frame for a gold medal. We talked about the big

:58:31. > :58:35.three. Potentially four now. Absolutely. No doubt. Someone like

:58:35. > :58:38.Andy Turner would watch that and think to himself, there's

:58:38. > :58:42.competition all the way through, not only with the big three. It's

:58:42. > :58:47.going to be tight, we've always said that. But when you go to win

:58:47. > :58:50.championships, everything kind of changes. Talking about David

:58:50. > :58:54.Oliver's mental approach, even though he denied it was the case,

:58:54. > :58:58.if you are expecting a head to head and you think it's just the two of

:58:59. > :59:02.you, sometimes you can sometimes subconsciously take your foot off

:59:02. > :59:06.the gas. Yes, the edge comes off because all day you been preparing

:59:06. > :59:11.for this big clash and then all of a sudden someone sweeps your legs

:59:11. > :59:15.away. You don't need to worry about that any more. So you do come to --

:59:15. > :59:18.start to come down a little bit. Let's see what happens in London.

:59:18. > :59:22.He will get back to training and get back in that group, and I'm

:59:22. > :59:27.pretty sure we will see the 13th second barrier when broken a couple

:59:27. > :59:37.of times again. The countdown continues to Usain Bolt in the 200m.

:59:37. > :59:46.

:59:46. > :59:56.is flying! It is gold for Bolt, and again, he has done it again!

:59:56. > :00:01.

:00:01. > :00:07.about that. But we have mentioned it. The question marks still

:00:07. > :00:11.persist. At his press conference at Stockholm here, he did sound more

:00:11. > :00:17.upbeat than previously? Well, we will run in Paris that he was a

:00:17. > :00:21.little bit under the weather. He had that cold. He ran quite

:00:21. > :00:27.comfortably but then he had to come back to Monaco and have a race

:00:27. > :00:32.under his belt. He has always been tested and come out on top. Today,

:00:32. > :00:36.he is in his favoured distance, the 200 metres, and I think he will

:00:37. > :00:45.want to silence a lot of the doubt. People have been saying, you might

:00:45. > :00:53.not be in great shape... By the victories are the most important

:00:53. > :01:00.thing. He said that, didn't he? It is about titles, not times. Was

:01:00. > :01:04.that a bit of expectation management? He just wants people

:01:04. > :01:11.not to be disappointed if body cannot do those times he did in

:01:11. > :01:16.Berlin? It is all for four in. Everybody expect him to produce

:01:16. > :01:22.these sensational performances whenever he runs. And when he looks

:01:22. > :01:31.at the clock, he looks disappointed. I wonder if he should switch off

:01:31. > :01:41.the clock when he runs and just run his best. Let's catch up with

:01:41. > :01:48.

:01:49. > :01:58.coaches now, Isinbayeva. Ooh, it is going to stay, it is going to stave.

:01:59. > :01:59.

:01:59. > :02:07.She is there. She has got it. I say! That was close. Almost did a

:02:07. > :02:12.full twist at the top. That was survival! It may be the best on

:02:12. > :02:22.paper, but, my goodness, a lot of work to do before she get back to

:02:22. > :02:24.

:02:24. > :02:34.those five-metre vaults. 5.6, the world record, set in Zurich.

:02:34. > :02:34.

:02:34. > :02:43.Here's the men's start list for the 1,500 metres. A good sprinkling of

:02:43. > :02:53.Kenyans in there. Kiplagat of Kenya, the fastest in the field so far

:02:53. > :02:57.

:02:57. > :03:07.this year. OK. Now to your commentators.

:03:07. > :03:19.

:03:19. > :03:28.There is Silas Kiplagat. He ran 3:29 in Monaco. We are looking for

:03:28. > :03:37.1: 51 in the first stretch. Just looking at the flags to our right.

:03:38. > :03:47.Just for the moment, a lull in the wind. A big field, 15 men, who head

:03:48. > :03:57.

:03:57. > :04:05.into the first bend. A very good season already for David. Kiprop is

:04:05. > :04:11.in great shape after that 800 metres in Monaco last week. The

:04:11. > :04:21.main pack, not much inside 43. A little bit slower than they might

:04:21. > :04:25.

:04:25. > :04:32.have wanted. Yes, it is interesting. As memories go back to Monaco and

:04:32. > :04:40.that wonderful race between Kiplagat and the Beijing Olympic

:04:40. > :04:46.Games champion. Assuming we see the Kiprop we want to see, because he

:04:46. > :04:53.has had some erratic performances this season. And slightly erratic

:04:53. > :05:00.pacemaking as well. It was not good. It is slow. He knew the pack would

:05:00. > :05:08.be behind him by around a second, a second and a half. They come

:05:08. > :05:11.through below us now. There's a ten-metre gap and it is

:05:11. > :05:17.disappointing because the wind is not strong in the arena at the

:05:17. > :05:24.moment. As they go through 800 metres they are in the back

:05:24. > :05:29.straight. Still no takers from the pack. You cannot blame the

:05:29. > :05:37.pacemakers all the time. If the pact choose not to go with it, very

:05:37. > :05:42.but what can be done. Now, Chepseba at the front there. Just beginning

:05:42. > :05:50.to move through in the white and blue. A lot of bodies in the middle

:05:50. > :05:54.of the pack there. And it has been slow up to 800 metres. They now

:05:54. > :06:04.come into the straight, and Willis just beginning to move into a good

:06:04. > :06:08.

:06:09. > :06:13.position. They get the final at Split. Ndiku, looking very, very

:06:13. > :06:23.comfortable, and just looking behind him. It is anybody's race,

:06:23. > :06:28.

:06:28. > :06:36.this. Look out for the Australian, Jeffrey Riseley. Oh, my God! Ndiku

:06:36. > :06:42.palls beside and does it slowly. Into the final 200 metres and this

:06:42. > :06:50.really has turned into a test. It is a test of 300 metres. It has not

:06:50. > :07:00.been a test of 1,500 metres at all. It has been a strong run from

:07:00. > :07:07.

:07:07. > :07:10.Kiplagat. He is really going away here. That, well... It just

:07:10. > :07:14.indicates with splits that were quite lumbering by the standards of

:07:14. > :07:19.these men. They could have gone several seconds quicker for my

:07:19. > :07:24.money. But you get into this frame of mind where you expect the

:07:24. > :07:27.pacemakers to lay down a quick- tempered all the time. Perhaps the

:07:27. > :07:34.time should be of secondary performance and it is just great

:07:34. > :07:40.racing that we should be witnessing. We have the tall figure coming past

:07:41. > :07:48.Willis there. A repeat of the result in Monaco. And Kiplagat, as

:07:48. > :07:57.you say, is there such a consistent performer. His time follows that of

:07:57. > :08:04.Monaco. A very, very good season. He was 4th in Shanghai. Not a great

:08:04. > :08:10.mile there, but to have the world rankings with of that time for

:08:10. > :08:14.Monica, absolutely superb. He has done it again, two in succession.

:08:14. > :08:24.Nothing particularly special about his finishing speed bomber last 300

:08:24. > :08:29.

:08:29. > :08:39.metres. Willis thought he could have Kiplagat but he couldn't.

:08:39. > :08:47.

:08:47. > :08:56.performance indeed. That is from Barsham Ahmed. He runs in a very

:08:56. > :09:06.wide and just turns in, drives money. A lovely technique. So light.

:09:06. > :09:12.

:09:12. > :09:21.-- drives in his knee. So, five men clear at 2.30. Well, we have this

:09:21. > :09:31.woman in a bit of trouble. That is Brathwaite. Struggling at 4.64.

:09:31. > :09:43.

:09:43. > :09:48.Richardson. Jason, a fantastic race. How much of that was a surprise to

:09:48. > :09:53.you? It was not so much of his surprise. I have put everything

:09:53. > :09:58.into my training. This is what we are trying to do. I have one of the

:09:58. > :10:06.best coaches in the world. Lots of people talking about 110-metre

:10:06. > :10:12.hurdles as a big event. We have those three big names, in with

:10:12. > :10:21.David Oliver. Perhaps now a fourth? They have the credentials and have

:10:21. > :10:27.done the hard work. I just hope I can get in there ahead of them.

:10:27. > :10:32.Congratulations. Thank you so much. A really outstanding victory for

:10:32. > :10:39.Jason Richardson in the 110-metre hurdles. Now we go to the men's

:10:39. > :10:49.discus competition. COMMENTATOR: De wind three was

:10:49. > :10:50.

:10:50. > :10:56.gusting around this afternoon. -- the wind was gusting around. This

:10:56. > :11:05.was his best effort by over a metre. Some consolation for no mark in his

:11:05. > :11:12.last Diamond League in Paris. This man from Poland ended up in second

:11:12. > :11:22.place. He opened with a narrow throat and then gave three

:11:22. > :11:22.

:11:22. > :11:32.consecutive throws over 64 metres. This was round for and that is big.

:11:32. > :11:41.-- round four. When the winner was the Lithuanian. 39 years old. He

:11:41. > :11:51.took that in round three. Double Olympic champion, both in 20021004,

:11:51. > :11:55.

:11:55. > :12:05.and their world champion. One of the greats in this event. -- both

:12:05. > :12:13.

:12:13. > :12:20.the discus competition. Lawrence. He is ranked four in the world. A

:12:20. > :12:27.huge, huge find. Yes. He took up this sport 18 months ago, and what

:12:27. > :12:32.a surprise. Everybody who has seen him, has said, physically, what a

:12:32. > :12:37.man mountain. I am looking forward to seeing him at the trials. I

:12:38. > :12:43.think he is going to tower over everybody. A great thing to see,

:12:43. > :12:48.the emergence of talent in new events, because we never really had

:12:48. > :12:55.a true world class male discus thrower. This is a great sign for

:12:55. > :13:02.us. I don't think we have won discus in the 100 years of the

:13:02. > :13:11.Olympic Games. The women have of. Now we have four a great athlete.

:13:11. > :13:15.Yes. All we can ask for is to have a great level domestically. And

:13:15. > :13:20.then it pushes everything else up. Then we are going to have great

:13:20. > :13:25.trials, which we normally don't see outside of Germany, for example. It

:13:25. > :13:30.is an exciting moment in time in athletics. And to come so far in

:13:30. > :13:36.such a short period of time, Lawrence. We always talk about

:13:36. > :13:43.years of conditioning and he has just come through so quickly?

:13:43. > :13:49.Who would have thought. You never know if you are a natural discus

:13:50. > :13:53.thrower before you try it. We have about half-an-hour to go before we

:13:53. > :14:00.see Usain Bolt. Just getting those muscles warmed up and into the

:14:00. > :14:05.right frame of mind. Getting a bit chilly... Yes. I am hoping he

:14:05. > :14:12.realises that. I hope he prepares himself well because we need him

:14:12. > :14:17.Abbas World Championships. We don't want anything risky to happen. But

:14:17. > :14:23.the next event to happen, the women's 400-metre hurdles. The

:14:23. > :14:27.person I am looking forward to his Spencer, also from Jamaica. I think

:14:27. > :14:31.this young lady has more talent than any body I have seen in this

:14:31. > :14:41.event and next year, watch out in those Olympic Games. I think she

:14:41. > :14:49.has the ability to come under 53 seconds. One applied to is not here,

:14:49. > :14:59.Perri Shakes-Drayton. How do you rate her development through to the

:14:59. > :15:02.

:15:02. > :15:06.event where you need to get the technique right. You can only home

:15:06. > :15:12.that with practice. And you need to practise it under pressure, too.

:15:12. > :15:17.Perri, she's a great, talented athlete. I'm looking forward to her

:15:17. > :15:22.sneaking under 54 seconds, getting close to around 53.5 on a regular

:15:22. > :15:25.basis. Once you do that, you can elevate yourself into a true world

:15:25. > :15:31.class and be competitive against the rest of these women that we are

:15:31. > :15:36.just about a bit -- just about to see. I also think she wants a place

:15:36. > :15:42.in the relay. Yes, that's a good move. It's what she wants to do. If

:15:42. > :15:47.you can get two Metals, why not? Christine Ohorougu running the 400m.

:15:47. > :15:52.Yes, it will be nice to see her running again. We saw her run quite

:15:53. > :15:56.quickly in Barcelona. She's qualified in the A list when it

:15:56. > :16:06.comes to the actual Championships coming up. Let's have a look at the

:16:06. > :16:11.

:16:11. > :16:15.start list for this women's 400 draw. It's going to be a battle

:16:15. > :16:20.between the two Jamaicans. It's a national event that we are going to

:16:20. > :16:23.take place here, but it could be a very quick one indeed. If you take

:16:23. > :16:30.that into consideration, it's a little bit blustery... We are

:16:30. > :16:34.looking at the flags behind us now. These women, they look ready, they

:16:34. > :16:38.look competitive. Let's see what the time will be. The wind does

:16:38. > :16:43.make a huge difference. It plays havoc with the rhythm, whereas you

:16:43. > :16:53.want to relax. You can relax into the back straight, certainly, but

:16:53. > :17:12.

:17:12. > :17:17.we are looking forward to. Let's season. She ran in the Commonwealth

:17:18. > :17:27.Games lasted just outside 56 seconds. Then you've got Queen

:17:28. > :17:30.

:17:30. > :17:36.Harrison of the United States. 54.78 this season. Walker, the

:17:36. > :17:45.Olympic champion. Drawn in the fifth lane. Always difficult to

:17:45. > :17:51.beat. 53.56 this season. A slight hiccup in Paris, she was fifth on

:17:51. > :17:57.that one. Spencer and Walker, two formidable athletes. Former world

:17:57. > :18:07.junior champion here. Seven times and a 54 seconds is Spencer of

:18:07. > :18:08.

:18:08. > :18:15.Jamaica. This is Yaroshchuk of the Ukraine. 54.77. Pretty good, going

:18:15. > :18:25.well. Boden on the outside, the Australian. She was fourth in the

:18:25. > :18:29.Commonwealth Games, fifth in Shanghai earlier this season. We

:18:29. > :18:36.shall see now whether the Jamaicans are showing the sort of form that

:18:36. > :18:46.will see them through to the medals. That is Spencer. She is 50.55 400m

:18:46. > :18:46.

:18:46. > :19:40.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 63 seconds

:19:40. > :19:46.it's the fifth round blow for De Zordo, the German. His best to date,

:19:46. > :19:56.83.14. That looks big - it's better, much better. That's around 84

:19:56. > :20:16.

:20:16. > :20:26.83.36. He finds another few centimetres but he's in third place.

:20:26. > :20:26.

:20:26. > :21:07.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 63 seconds

:21:08. > :21:15.No change to his position. The 400m amongst the hurdles quickly.

:21:15. > :21:25.Spencer has gone off a very quickly. She's already past Yaroshchuk. She

:21:25. > :21:35.is traced by Walker down the back straight. -- chased. It's Jamaica

:21:35. > :21:57.

:21:57. > :22:05.Wilson in third place with Harrison Spencer is awake. Spencer takes it.

:22:05. > :22:15.53.74. That's a terrific time. It's just outside the world's best. It's

:22:15. > :22:23.

:22:23. > :22:30.a new meeting record. The record was set in 1985. There was no

:22:30. > :22:37.chance to let up. But she was the strongest of the final barrier bed.

:22:37. > :22:41.-- barrier there. That time was impressive. Any stadium record here

:22:41. > :22:51.is one that has to be given the greatest respect. She's just broken

:22:51. > :22:58.

:22:58. > :23:04.one of the oldest. The Jamaicans the defending world champion in

:23:04. > :23:14.second place here, Walker. But coming good as it matters most.

:23:14. > :23:19.

:23:19. > :23:29.That's -- that last hurdle with the last world championships. I'll

:23:29. > :24:05.

:24:05. > :24:12.have a feeling it will change this do. Come on, match that! He enjoys

:24:12. > :24:16.his jumping. He wears his heart on his sleeve. His season's best is

:24:16. > :24:19.only 2.34. British athletes focusing on

:24:19. > :24:22.selection for the World Championships this weekend, but

:24:22. > :24:30.they can't have failed to notice, along with a Olympic athletes of

:24:30. > :24:34.all disciplines, that there's only one year to go until 2012. A year

:24:35. > :24:40.to go till 2012. Everyone wants to be there, everyone wants the chance

:24:40. > :24:43.to compete at a home Olympics. you are treating it - at dreaming

:24:43. > :24:49.about it, it still gives you goosebumps. It's a special moment.

:24:49. > :24:55.It's pretty exciting to think what could happen. Having it on your own

:24:55. > :24:59.doorstep is amazing. It is exciting, and it's not too far away. If I

:24:59. > :25:05.qualify for the Olympics then I am going to be the most happy girl on

:25:05. > :25:11.the planet! I'm just hoping I can do myself proud now. Thinking about

:25:11. > :25:15.winning, thinking about desire, passion and motivation. Get to the

:25:15. > :25:20.start line in one piece. I've got a silver medal in Athens, I can only

:25:20. > :25:25.imagine what getting a gold one would feel like. To win a fourth

:25:25. > :25:30.gold medal on home waters would be an incredible achievement. Still

:25:30. > :25:37.really excited, still absolutely loving the journey. It's just a

:25:37. > :25:42.privileged to be able to do this again. When you say a year to go, I

:25:42. > :25:46.think you get bats like rush of adrenalin and think - to bring it

:25:46. > :25:52.on! I think we just need to go out there and enjoy it and make the

:25:52. > :26:02.most of it and do what we know we are capable of doing. Absolutely

:26:02. > :26:08.

:26:09. > :26:18.fantastic. I can't wait until the the next episode of British Olympic

:26:18. > :26:28.dreams next Saturday. We've got a profile on the Bramley Brothers.

:26:28. > :26:34.

:26:34. > :26:40.Isinbayeva in the pole vault, over tell you what, she's got it! That

:26:40. > :26:46.is a fantastic vault. That is so different. The confidence of this

:26:46. > :26:56.woman. For 0.76, goes straight into the lead. She came in here with a

:26:56. > :26:56.

:26:56. > :27:06.personal best of all 0.60. She came into the competition at 4.64.

:27:06. > :27:17.

:27:17. > :27:21.soon as I saw that I thought, she's out without a fight. He leads

:27:21. > :27:31.jointly with Ukhov. They have identical cards, apart from the

:27:31. > :27:34.

:27:34. > :27:41.fact that Ukhov came in at 2.15 and and 2812 and retaining her Olympic

:27:41. > :27:44.title. We were both involved in the celebrations earlier in the week.

:27:44. > :27:49.There was a huge level of excitement and expectation. It was

:27:49. > :27:53.amazing. We were both at the Aquatics Centre, different times of

:27:53. > :27:58.the day. What was the excitement was from the journalists that were

:27:58. > :28:01.there. At long last, I felt that we've engaged them. Once we've

:28:01. > :28:06.engaged the press and television media as well at the same time, we

:28:06. > :28:09.can start to bring the Olympic Games allied to the general public.

:28:09. > :28:14.I was mesmerised seeing the amount of Olympic champions that were

:28:14. > :28:17.wandering around the stadium. It was fantastic to see. It's still

:28:17. > :28:21.inspired me, that's for sure. I'm looking forward to seeing what it

:28:21. > :28:24.can do to some of our youngsters. You've got a number of British

:28:25. > :28:29.athletes looking forward to that. Where would you assess our chances

:28:29. > :28:34.in terms of track and field? I think they've said eight medals, at

:28:34. > :28:37.least one gold. Where are we? year out is still a long way to go

:28:37. > :28:41.up. There's a whole winter you have to do before you even consider

:28:41. > :28:48.getting out there but 2012. I think what we've got on A-team level

:28:48. > :28:52.right now is more than adequate. Let's see what happens. A year to

:28:52. > :29:02.go, let's see. Plenty of time for them. Next up on track is the

:29:02. > :29:19.

:29:19. > :29:29.We will look and see what happens until this race settles down. If

:29:29. > :29:33.they are going to have any chance of going underneath that world time,

:29:33. > :29:40.at 14. When did you. It is frustrating that the wind has

:29:40. > :29:45.stayed with us. Flags are still blowing quite healthily next to us

:29:45. > :29:52.in Stockholm. Let's see how they cope with those of gusting

:29:52. > :30:02.conditions. We go back to the javelin, which is just getting into

:30:02. > :30:06.

:30:06. > :30:16.its final stages. This man's best to date, just over 80 metres. Can

:30:16. > :30:16.

:30:16. > :30:25.he improve? He can! That is around 83 metres. He lives himself up. I

:30:25. > :30:30.would say a lift of two places with that effort. Remember, Andreas

:30:30. > :30:40.Thorkildsen is leading for the second round. But that's not bad at

:30:40. > :30:48.

:30:48. > :30:58.all. 83.4 p for, and a great effort to move into third. -- 83.44.

:30:58. > :31:00.

:31:00. > :31:10.third and final attempt in the high jump for this man. But he did not

:31:10. > :31:12.

:31:12. > :31:19.attack it, Andrey Silnov. And back to this race, the 5,000-

:31:19. > :31:29.metre women's. So often this season we have had pacemaking that the

:31:29. > :31:31.

:31:31. > :31:40.runners have not responded to. And now the pole vault. A third

:31:40. > :31:50.time fail for Silke Spiegelburg. I am tempted to say normal service is

:31:50. > :31:52.

:31:52. > :32:02.resumed. The champion has seen off Momanyi of Brazil, who has

:32:02. > :32:03.

:32:03. > :32:13.certainly been prominent this season. But the Russian is there on

:32:13. > :32:15.

:32:15. > :32:22.top, and now a final effort from Matthias De Zordo. It has certainly

:32:22. > :32:31.been made a profit for the others. His best to date, 83.36. That it is

:32:31. > :32:40.much better. No Winnie the 88-metre mark that Andreas Torquil son has

:32:40. > :32:50.hit tonight. -- no where near the 1880 metre mark that Andreas

:32:50. > :32:50.

:32:50. > :33:00.Thorkildsen has hit tonight. This is an improvement. The best effort

:33:00. > :33:15.

:33:15. > :33:25.slower than they wanted in this 5,000 metres. In the lead, of

:33:25. > :33:31.

:33:31. > :33:41.course, at Vivian Cheruiyot. final attempt in this women's pole

:33:41. > :33:43.

:33:43. > :33:53.vault. But it is not to be. Spiegelburg and Feofanova, as well

:33:53. > :33:57.

:33:57. > :34:01.as Momanyi, all finding this height beyond them. -- Fabiana Murer.

:34:01. > :34:11.certainly looks to me as though Vivien Cherry it is going along

:34:11. > :34:17.

:34:17. > :34:27.with the pace. -- Vivian Cheruiyot. You can now see for yourself.

:34:27. > :34:37.Cherono is there in second place proper. -- Ngetich-Cherono was

:34:37. > :34:48.

:34:48. > :34:58.stopped and then you have Mercy there. It is coming up for two

:34:58. > :34:59.

:34:59. > :35:09.kilometres. And Cheruiyot has great speed. The speed is now quick.

:35:09. > :35:19.was very much quicker. They had that too many is 55 to start with.

:35:19. > :35:28.

:35:28. > :35:37.-- 2: 55. And to the men's high jump, and

:35:37. > :35:46.Ukhov holds the second. A very, very tight jumper indeed. And now

:35:46. > :35:53.Ukhov gets it. He calls his season's best to boot. Now,

:35:54. > :36:03.Williams, there's no point in attempting any more. Williams has

:36:04. > :36:05.

:36:05. > :36:13.cleared 2.37 the sea and leads the world rankings.

:36:14. > :36:21.Now, Cheruiyot, the African champion, is moving well. She won

:36:21. > :36:27.in a 14.33, and look at this. This is a dramatic race. Clearly she has

:36:27. > :36:35.come here to try to get a season's best.

:36:35. > :36:40.And now second attempt for Jesse Williams in the high jump. No! If

:36:40. > :36:45.he had cleared that, he would have stayed in first place with Ukhov.

:36:45. > :36:50.It would have been, again, a copycat series of jumps from

:36:50. > :37:00.Williams, along with the Russian, Ukhov. But Ukhov now holds pole

:37:00. > :37:01.

:37:01. > :37:04.position. Checa is now in second. They are

:37:04. > :37:14.now going into the back straight and they are still about 50 metres

:37:14. > :37:14.

:37:14. > :37:18.behind. Dolores Checa of Spain is going well. She is leading the

:37:19. > :37:27.trading group, which is the race, but the real demonstration is going

:37:27. > :37:36.on about 50, 60 metres ahead. Ngetich-Cherono is now moving ahead

:37:36. > :37:46.of Cherono. The two Cheronos. But this is going to be a very, very

:37:46. > :37:50.

:37:50. > :38:00.good one indeed from Cheruiyot. She is going very, very strongly enough.

:38:00. > :38:00.

:38:00. > :38:10.Another very, very quick time. They have come back from that two-minute

:38:10. > :38:14.

:38:14. > :38:24.is 55. That is very strong. -- 2: 55. She is moving down the back

:38:24. > :38:31.

:38:32. > :38:39.straight so well there. Her rhythm is so good. And now, Isinbayeva.

:38:39. > :38:46.No! It did not look close, frankly, and I wonder if this is one ask too

:38:46. > :38:56.much. But it has been a great night after a difficult period for her. I

:38:56. > :38:59.

:38:59. > :39:07.think she was burnt-out and needed a break.

:39:07. > :39:16.And now back to this race. Checa is there. And we have Kipyego on the

:39:16. > :39:26.back of that group. Certainly now, she is on for roundabout 14: 23 or

:39:26. > :39:31.

:39:31. > :39:41.thereabouts. I am a little puzzled. Why did he

:39:41. > :39:42.

:39:42. > :39:52.not take it at 2.36? Ukhov cleared the second time. He is in second

:39:52. > :39:53.

:39:53. > :40:03.tonight to this man, Ivan in, who will equal his season's best. --

:40:03. > :40:09.

:40:09. > :40:15.Ivan at Ukhov. Jesse Williams will have his opportunity for revenge.

:40:15. > :40:20.This race is certainly inside this season's best. The Americans are in

:40:21. > :40:30.the middle of that group. Checa finds herself being overtaken by

:40:30. > :40:38.four or five athletes. There are two races on. Well, one race and

:40:38. > :40:47.one demonstration. She is about 150, 160 metres ahead of the rest of the

:40:47. > :40:52.field. That is Cheruiyot. She is absolutely spot on again. That is a

:40:52. > :41:00.very, very formidable run on her own. She is looking, actually, to

:41:00. > :41:06.go close to her personal best. That was the record when she was behind

:41:07. > :41:16.on that one before Oslo race. The record was torn apart on that

:41:17. > :41:17.

:41:17. > :41:27.occasion. Two minutes to go. will raise her game in the last

:41:27. > :41:29.

:41:29. > :41:36.1,000, there's no doubt about that. It is going to be very fast indeed.

:41:36. > :41:42.The stadium record is 14: 12, which will not be beaten. But she is now

:41:43. > :41:48.leading by around 140 metres. We are watching a wonderful exhibition

:41:48. > :41:55.run here from Cheruiyot. She is throwing out a challenge to the

:41:55. > :42:01.Europeans, saying, I am in shape, match this! Get your house in order

:42:01. > :42:06.because mine is spot on! Flanagan seems to have gone ahead of the

:42:06. > :42:16.rest and is starting to stretch them. But the diminutive figure of

:42:16. > :42:26.Cheruiyot is burying them. They almost 170, 180 metres behind.

:42:26. > :42:26.

:42:26. > :42:32.Flanagan is in second place at the moment. She is absolutely flying.

:42:32. > :42:40.She has had a 68 in there. Pretty consistent. When you have been

:42:40. > :42:46.running like that, it is terrific distance running. There's Flanagan,

:42:46. > :42:56.challenging the Africans. Flanagan, giving a Wii good account of

:42:56. > :42:58.

:42:58. > :43:05.herself. -- 8 really a good account. We focused in on the wrong athlete

:43:05. > :43:14.there. That is not Cheruiyot. is coming round the bend. There she

:43:14. > :43:19.is. What a run this has been! Absolutely superb. The crowd are

:43:19. > :43:25.standing for this. A world-class performance indeed. It is a

:43:25. > :43:32.stunning performance by this young woman. It is going to be a world-

:43:32. > :43:40.leading time. A sensational run! A personal best and a world lead in

:43:40. > :43:46.time. That is a sensational run all on her own, really. The pacemaker

:43:46. > :43:51.worked for her. They did their job. The rest of following in now and

:43:51. > :43:58.this looks like Sally Kipyego coming in, in second place. And

:43:58. > :44:04.just looking, checking on third place. The race was a demonstration

:44:04. > :44:09.in the end and that was a world- class performance in every sense.

:44:09. > :44:17.That is the unofficial time there. World-leading, and by a

:44:17. > :44:24.considerable margin. She is still the third fastest athlete in

:44:24. > :44:29.history behind those astonishing runs from the Ethiopian so. Both

:44:29. > :44:36.coming in in the middle of that season in 2008. But she is

:44:36. > :44:45.gradually homing in. It was, as you said, an exhibition run, on what is

:44:45. > :44:51.a rather cool evening. Not ideal conditions. Cheruiyot has had a

:44:51. > :45:01.meeting record earlier in this season. Tonight, it has been 14: 24

:45:01. > :45:09.

:45:09. > :45:14.stop a fabulous performance from Mitchell Watt, you World League

:45:14. > :45:18.8.54. I'm very happy. I had a bit of a problem with my heel the past

:45:18. > :45:22.month, but during the warm-up it felt really good. I knew if my heel

:45:22. > :45:27.held up I'd jump really big today and that turned out to be the case

:45:27. > :45:30.to. Taking a scout like Saladino, a big psychological boost in front of

:45:30. > :45:38.the world championships. Definitely. It's getting pretty close now. To

:45:38. > :45:43.keep coming out on top is important. Hopefully I can keep the format for

:45:43. > :45:48.another month. We've got Greg Rutherford and Kris Commons in in

:45:48. > :45:52.that. They are both jumping really well this year. Abbey in London

:45:52. > :45:55.next weekend, it will be another good competition. The great job,

:45:55. > :46:05.well done. It was a world lead in the long jump. I wonder if there

:46:05. > :46:25.

:46:25. > :46:35.will be a world lead in the 200m streaking away already. He's

:46:35. > :46:36.

:46:36. > :46:42.brilliant beyond compare. He is flying. Away he goes! He's done it

:46:42. > :46:52.again! They say lightning doesn't strike twice... Stemming! Five gold

:46:52. > :46:55.

:46:56. > :46:59.medals. Five world records. You've proudly above the stadium here.

:46:59. > :47:03.Unfortunately, it's blowing in the wrong direction. It is,

:47:03. > :47:09.unfortunately. But you never know with this man, what he can do. I

:47:09. > :47:13.remember watching him in Oslo. I thought if he got around the 22nd

:47:13. > :47:18.figure it would be sensational, but he went away and a writ. Now we

:47:18. > :47:24.will see what kind of form he is in, how he feels. Do you think he wants

:47:24. > :47:27.to run faster or do you think he is just happy to win? It's raining a

:47:27. > :47:31.little bit. They put him on at the end of the evening but it does get

:47:31. > :47:35.a bit cooler. It's definitely getting a little bit cooler. But if

:47:35. > :47:38.you remember this time last year, when this meeting took place, he

:47:39. > :47:42.was beaten by Tyson Gay. He's never won here in Stockholm. I'm pretty

:47:43. > :47:52.sure he wants to put that right. Perhaps he will put it right in a

:47:53. > :47:55.

:47:55. > :47:59.big way. Anybody here who might worry him? No. You have to ask the

:47:59. > :48:03.question! This whole crowd will be anticipating a great performance

:48:03. > :48:07.from him. I think they were disappointed last year, because

:48:07. > :48:17.when he was beaten by Thais and gave the whole stadium went very

:48:17. > :48:21.quiet. -- by Tyson Gay. When he runs, and hopefully runs a world

:48:21. > :48:26.best, then they will get to see the real Usain Bolt. It's an

:48:26. > :48:29.interesting phenomenon. Some athletes across all sports, you

:48:29. > :48:34.have this mythical atmosphere about them. You don't want to see them

:48:34. > :48:38.lose. No, he's one of the champions that you want to see win and win.

:48:38. > :48:43.We all know it's virtually impossible to do that for numerous

:48:43. > :48:48.races, especially when he's doing two events. He's doing the 100m and

:48:48. > :48:52.the 200m. He's always going to be more susceptible in the 100m

:48:52. > :48:57.because that's not his natural distance. His natural distance is

:48:57. > :49:01.the 200m. And, ultimately, I think the 400m is beckoning him. It's

:49:01. > :49:05.great to see him in this event, the end he loves the most, and

:49:05. > :49:08.hopefully going out there and keep winning at this event. The few are

:49:08. > :49:14.going to put a percentage figure on what kind of shape he's in, what

:49:14. > :49:18.would you think? It's difficult. There are a lot of different

:49:18. > :49:21.factors. You have to have the racing in, how fresh you are, what

:49:21. > :49:24.the travelling is like, where your main focus is. Now he's got to

:49:24. > :49:29.focus on just winning the championships. That's what people

:49:29. > :49:34.are expecting him to do. He uses these races very cleverly, he

:49:34. > :49:39.doesn't stick to one event. To have their build-up to win the major

:49:39. > :49:44.event. He cannot lose major championships. Those big events, he

:49:44. > :49:48.cannot lose. He can come to one or two of these events and dip out

:49:48. > :49:52.once or twice, and we will forgive him. But we expect the big man to

:49:52. > :49:56.perform in the big performances at the right time. You say that, if

:49:56. > :50:01.you felt he couldn't go to the championships and win, it would you

:50:01. > :50:05.see him withdrawing? He's been pushed closed in the 100m. The 200m

:50:05. > :50:09.is perhaps a bit easier. If he produced a performance tonight

:50:09. > :50:13.which didn't fill him with confidence, mighty withdraw?

:50:13. > :50:16.few look at what the date is now, it's still over a month to go. Four

:50:16. > :50:20.athletes of this calibre, they are talking about polishing up at this

:50:20. > :50:24.stage. He would take a couple of days off, a couple of days to think

:50:24. > :50:30.about it, but I don't think we need to worry about that. I think you

:50:30. > :50:33.will produce a good performance and really put all the doubters... All

:50:33. > :50:39.the doubts out of his questions and everybody else of what he can do

:50:39. > :50:49.over this distance. The women's pole vault is under way. Isinbayeva,

:50:49. > :50:58.

:50:58. > :51:02.attempt. Now going to 4.86. Well, I think it signals the return of this

:51:02. > :51:07.young woman. She's certainly getting back to the form that we

:51:07. > :51:13.know and associate with her. She wins on her first outing back into

:51:13. > :51:23.the big league. There is the evidence. Season's best, 4.76.

:51:23. > :51:24.

:51:24. > :51:28.There's much more to come. Back to Mr Bolt. Has there been

:51:28. > :51:31.perhaps a sense in which he's been holding himself back to get ready

:51:31. > :51:35.for 2012? Retaining his Olympic title and perhaps doing something

:51:35. > :51:39.similar to what he did in Beijing and Berlin, to put those records

:51:39. > :51:42.beyond doubt. He is one of these athletes who believes in himself

:51:43. > :51:46.and in his performance. He sets his own goals and objectives. If you

:51:46. > :51:50.keep that in mind when he approaches every single competition.

:51:50. > :51:54.For him, at the moment he doesn't believe he is a legend in this

:51:54. > :52:01.sport. He believes he needs to come back to win the Olympic Games, do

:52:01. > :52:04.this twice and then he will become a legend. I scratch my head! Kind

:52:05. > :52:09.of a legend because of the times he has run. Let's have a look at the

:52:09. > :52:14.start list. The final race of this evening, the one that everybody has

:52:14. > :52:18.been waiting for. All of these men are pretty nervous. They need to go

:52:18. > :52:22.out there, they are testing themselves out. With that in mind,

:52:22. > :52:28.they will be ignoring Usain Bolt and thinking he is just going to go,

:52:28. > :52:33.he's going to play for the crowd and run quick regardless. Alonso

:52:33. > :52:42.Edwards, silver medallist from Beijing. Saidy Ndure, another

:52:42. > :52:48.outstanding athlete. He's had a great race in Lausanne. He's been

:52:48. > :52:58.disqualified quite recently. Listen to this reception when he announces

:52:58. > :52:59.

:52:59. > :53:05.this man's name. I still can't get up a quite how relaxed and happy

:53:05. > :53:09.and carefree he seems. You know, behind all that the heart is still

:53:09. > :53:12.pumping. He is an athlete after all. He needs to come out and produce a

:53:12. > :53:16.performance. He will still be slightly nervous and anxious and he

:53:16. > :53:26.won't want to let himself down. That's the key to it all. We are

:53:26. > :53:28.

:53:28. > :53:31.just about set to go. Let's runners because Usain Bolt is just

:53:31. > :53:36.bounding into form. He hasn't been beaten this year. He's received

:53:36. > :53:44.quite a lot of criticism and there's been speculation about his

:53:44. > :53:53.form. He ran 9.88 in Monaco last week. He had an appalling start,

:53:53. > :53:59.the slowest out of the blocks of a 100m. Bolt in lane six. He starts

:53:59. > :54:09.as a strong favourite. This should be an exhibition run. The stadium

:54:09. > :54:27.

:54:27. > :54:36.moving away. He's only halfway round the bend. Into the straight

:54:36. > :54:46.now. Now he polls at home. The rest of the field are disappearing. It's

:54:46. > :54:46.

:54:46. > :54:53.going to be a big victory. 20.03. It's another victory for Usain Bolt.

:54:53. > :55:02.I'm sure the knockers will say, well, where's that 19... That world

:55:02. > :55:07.record from -- form. But it's not a warm evening, the temperature has

:55:07. > :55:10.certainly dropped. It's below 20 degrees at the moment. I've got a

:55:10. > :55:14.jacket on sitting here. He's running into quite a strong

:55:14. > :55:19.headwind. He hasn't really got any competition. He's one very

:55:19. > :55:24.comfortably. You can't really fault it. No, he's much more comfortable

:55:24. > :55:27.up at 200m than he is over 100m at the moment. He has the speed

:55:27. > :55:32.endurance and strength endurance to take him away from the rest of the

:55:32. > :55:37.field. Anderson of Jamaica coming very strongly through. As was

:55:37. > :55:44.Edward of Panama. A little look that way, where is everybody? He

:55:44. > :55:54.could just sense Anderson. The crowd quiet as he went round that

:55:54. > :55:55.

:55:55. > :56:03.bend. Just outside 20 seconds. It's too slow, he says. We've seen him

:56:03. > :56:07.very closely run at 100m. We've seen that in Monaco. It was a very

:56:07. > :56:12.close account. But here he runs the bend quite well. His transition

:56:12. > :56:15.into the straight is good. He has to work off that bend. I'm looking

:56:15. > :56:19.at the man inside him, who is illegally running on the line,

:56:19. > :56:24.that's Anderson. In a championship he would have been disqualified

:56:24. > :56:34.there. Usain Bolt comes away from the rest of the field. You measure

:56:34. > :56:36.

:56:36. > :56:41.his performance by what the rest did. They are close to 22nd meant.

:56:41. > :56:44.-- 22nd, men. As he goes on his celebration, we will bring you up-

:56:44. > :56:54.to-date with the result in a moment. We've seen the pole vault early on.

:56:54. > :56:56.

:56:56. > :57:00.Look at this. It's good to see. even a sub 20. We are a bit

:57:00. > :57:04.disappointed. Yeah. The look on his face when he crossed the line, he

:57:04. > :57:08.was slightly disappointed, too. But it was quite a strong headwind for

:57:08. > :57:15.him. Whatever you see down the home straight, you've got to multiply

:57:15. > :57:18.that. It was a decent performance. 20.03, we can't really complain too

:57:19. > :57:23.much. The absolutely annihilated the field. It's what we expect him

:57:23. > :57:27.to do. They are quality athletes behind him, people who've run very

:57:27. > :57:34.quickly over this distance. He has still left them all trailing. He

:57:34. > :57:39.himself, I don't think he's going to worry about the 200m too much.

:57:39. > :57:41.When he comes down the home straight, if you notice, he is

:57:41. > :57:45.glancing left, right and centre. He's not paying that much attention

:57:45. > :57:49.to his performance. When the pressure is on and he has to really

:57:49. > :57:55.go out there and deal with a major competition and major competitors,

:57:55. > :57:58.then it should be OK. Don't worry. I still think he'll hang on to both

:57:58. > :58:08.titles. That just about round things off from Stockholm this

:58:08. > :58:33.
