:01:18. > :01:22.JOHN INVERDALE: Welcome to the second day of this here's Aviva

:01:22. > :01:26.London Grand Prix. The afternoon after the night before, after Mo

:01:26. > :01:32.Farah a sped down this home stretch with such unbridled joy that he

:01:32. > :01:35.brought this famous stadium at Crystal Palace to its feet. And it

:01:35. > :01:38.may be the first day of the football season in England, but we

:01:38. > :01:43.have another four house for the second half of the meeting that is

:01:43. > :01:52.very much part of the Diamond League schedule -- a full house. It

:01:52. > :01:58.has attracted the best from home and abroad. Mo Farah is -- Phillips

:01:58. > :02:05.Idowu will is hot favourite to relay and the title he won in that

:02:05. > :02:10.South Korea. For Christine Ohuruogu, it is about rediscovering lost form.

:02:10. > :02:17.A disappointing third in Birmingham last weekend, it means the Olympic

:02:17. > :02:23.400m champion has plenty to find. She is up against one of the most

:02:23. > :02:28.prolific one lap runners of all time, Richard Ross has run the --

:02:28. > :02:32.run under 41 seconds several times in heard glittering careers.

:02:32. > :02:40.And a tremendous build for the women's 100m, Carmelita Jeter, the

:02:40. > :02:50.fastest woman in the field so far this year -- a fantastic field.

:02:50. > :02:56.

:02:56. > :02:59.So plenty to cram in between now absolutely key. Worth pointing out

:02:59. > :03:07.there are one or two Paralympic events we will be showing go

:03:07. > :03:13.through the course of the day. That men's 200m featuring Christian

:03:13. > :03:19.Malcolm. And we rounded off by the 4x100 metres for the men. -- we

:03:19. > :03:23.round it off. Always a tremendous way to round things off.

:03:23. > :03:28.This is a great place to be when it is packed to the rafters as it is

:03:28. > :03:32.this afternoon. We haven't quite got the tropical weather of we have

:03:32. > :03:35.enjoyed, but we have got off lightly compared to a lot of the

:03:35. > :03:39.country, so we are looking forward to three hours of tremendous

:03:39. > :03:46.entertainment in the company of Denise Lewis and Colin Jackson.

:03:46. > :03:50.Depending on what you generation might be and who it was the

:03:50. > :03:55.inspired to, with Steve Cram and Steve Ovett combat but Fryer a lot

:03:55. > :03:59.of young people last night, you get the idea that that is one of the

:03:59. > :04:04.images, Mo Farah, last night, people's will see that and I think,

:04:04. > :04:08.I fancied doing that. It was a tremendous performance. And what

:04:08. > :04:13.was a fantastic, he has demonstrated he is the complete

:04:13. > :04:17.distance runner. And this is middle-distance. His turn of speed

:04:17. > :04:21.in the final 200m was just phenomenal. And I think every

:04:21. > :04:26.distance runner would love to have that magical turn of speed at the

:04:26. > :04:31.right moment in time. And he makes you smile. He does and this place

:04:31. > :04:37.erupted last night, it was sensational. We talk about the

:04:37. > :04:42.magic dust, Mo Farah has that. It was really a moment to be proud to

:04:42. > :04:46.be British. Not getting ahead of ourselves, are we? He is a genuine

:04:46. > :04:51.gold-medal contender? He is the real deal, don't worry about that.

:04:51. > :04:56.But fingers crossed he says healthy. What about Jennifer Meadows? That

:04:56. > :05:02.was a brilliant performance. A timed to perfection. How run was

:05:02. > :05:08.sensational. She sat back and when she needed to kick, it was decisive

:05:08. > :05:11.-- her run. It was a great time to do it. She will be full of

:05:11. > :05:17.confidence that she can command a race whenever she needs to, and

:05:18. > :05:23.fingers crossed, or... It was great to see it, if you remember earlier

:05:23. > :05:26.in the year, she had suffered from flu and it said her back a bit, and

:05:26. > :05:31.we were a bit worried but she has returned at the right time -- set

:05:31. > :05:37.her back. This is a great family occasion and it is also an occasion

:05:37. > :05:42.to reminisce, and the first event is a legend relay challenge. Lot of

:05:42. > :05:48.our up-and-coming athletes augmented, held back, delete as

:05:48. > :05:58.applicable, by stars of the past. John Regis, Jamie Baulch, Katharine

:05:58. > :06:11.

:06:11. > :06:15.Merry. Steve Cram and commentating. inside, Jason Gardner at next. Team

:06:15. > :06:19.Merry had just about got the lead. Team Rivage -- Team Regis going

:06:19. > :06:25.well down the back straight. Now the girls get their chance around

:06:25. > :06:30.the third leg. One or two dodgy handover has. Of Team Merry in the

:06:30. > :06:37.lead, Team Regis going well in the blue. This is where the legend stay

:06:37. > :06:42.go that it will all slowdown. Katharine Merry almost stumbled.

:06:42. > :06:52.John Regis, can he hang on? Here comes Gardiner. John Regis has got

:06:52. > :06:54.

:06:54. > :06:57.it. Team Regis wins. Here we are with the victorious team Regis. The

:06:57. > :07:01.youngsters gave you a fine start and the Grand Master brought them

:07:01. > :07:05.home. It they did all the work and I just had to fall over the line

:07:05. > :07:09.and I was just able to do it -- they did. But it was a lot of fun,

:07:09. > :07:16.a lot of atmosphere and Crystal Palace has a special place in my

:07:16. > :07:19.heart. And it is far a great cause. Yeah, for the Railway children, it

:07:19. > :07:24.is about getting money for those kids who live on the streets. You

:07:24. > :07:29.can text, you can send money in, it is a great cause. Please give

:07:29. > :07:36.generously, we are here to raise awareness. Were well done, you can

:07:36. > :07:40.go and do your lap of honour. -- well done. JOHN INVERDALE: And if

:07:40. > :07:44.John Regis runs that quick for around 12 miles, he can get a

:07:44. > :07:51.ticket for England against Wales at Twickenham. A lady in the front row

:07:51. > :07:56.said to me, why is and Colin here today? Good question. I am not fit

:07:56. > :08:01.enough. I found it quite hysterical when Phil said to John, you can

:08:01. > :08:07.enjoy your lap of honour. I don't think he will enjoy that! He went

:08:07. > :08:11.to the 200m mark and ambled back. But it was for a very good cause,

:08:11. > :08:15.and John Regis telling you how to contribute. Let's move on, we will

:08:15. > :08:19.focus on the women's high hurdles, and included in the line-up today,

:08:19. > :08:25.the lady who is the fastest in the world that she has been talking to

:08:25. > :08:29.Phil Jones. Tell me about the kind of shape you are in at the moment.

:08:29. > :08:36.In the best shape of my life, I think. Training is going really

:08:36. > :08:40.well. I am doing 200 reps are sometimes. It can be quite Duff --

:08:40. > :08:44.tough, but I think the strength I have gained over the whole season

:08:44. > :08:50.since the Commonwealth Games has been just a dream come true, touch

:08:50. > :08:55.wood. All of my training has been going really well, consistently on

:08:55. > :09:02.the track, injury free, so I think that is the goal that any athlete

:09:02. > :09:06.would want. Having achieved hurdles gold at the Commonwealth Games, how

:09:07. > :09:11.do you reset your focus for the World Championships? My goal is to

:09:11. > :09:15.win the races and keep myself healthy. My coach's goal is to get

:09:15. > :09:22.my personal best at the major championships. We both want the

:09:22. > :09:26.best out of myself have sometimes it is hard to hold me back. I want

:09:27. > :09:31.to go fast all the time, I don't want to do the harder sessions and

:09:31. > :09:35.slug it out. She has to keep me down to earth and make sure I

:09:35. > :09:40.realise that the main goal is the major championships. The times I am

:09:40. > :09:44.running now probably should have come last year, but because are up

:09:44. > :09:48.by injury before 2009, it held me back for six or seven months bash

:09:48. > :09:53.because of my injury. I was so distraught afterwards that it

:09:53. > :09:56.didn't come together for me in Berlin. So this year has been a

:09:56. > :10:01.dream come true, I have been able to do all the training that has

:10:01. > :10:08.been asked of me and kept my body injury free and healthy. London

:10:08. > :10:11.2012, do you get the feeling that the excitement is building? Every

:10:11. > :10:15.Olympic sport gets excited about the Olympic Games, that is your 4th

:10:15. > :10:19.year cycle and your main goal is the Olympics at the end of it. It

:10:19. > :10:24.is always at the back of your mind that you want to be on the podium,

:10:24. > :10:28.preferably gold. Sally Pearson is going to be

:10:28. > :10:38.running in the first semi-final we are going to see in a second.

:10:38. > :11:02.

:11:02. > :11:06.Tiffany Ofili-Porter running in the gets a cracking start. Look at

:11:06. > :11:13.Sally Pearson go. This is just the heat. She is flying through, miles

:11:13. > :11:23.ahead. Sally Pearson, 12.55. In to a slight headwind, superbly. A

:11:23. > :11:24.

:11:24. > :11:27.great start. That is a very impressive time.

:11:27. > :11:32.Virginia Crawford and Phylicia George taking the other qualifying

:11:32. > :11:42.spots. Here is the line-up for heat 2.

:11:42. > :11:58.

:11:58. > :12:04.Ashley Helsby goes in lane one for the British record holder. At time

:12:04. > :12:09.that ranks her 5th in the world. Ofili-Porter was away well.

:12:09. > :12:13.Absolutely flying at the moment. Tiffany Ofili-Porter comes away at

:12:13. > :12:23.about being run down by Carruthers. They qualify for the final easily.

:12:23. > :12:34.

:12:34. > :12:39.In third place, Yvette Lewis of the Porter. Derval O'Rourke,

:12:39. > :12:44.unfortunately, she will not qualified. She is not one of the

:12:44. > :12:48.fastest two louvres that they semi- final. -- losers.

:12:49. > :12:55.It is pouring down at the a bit. Colin and I were happy to stand in

:12:55. > :13:00.the elements, but Denice Lewis insisted on an umbrella. That

:13:00. > :13:04.qualification time of 12.55 from Sally Pearson, it is one of the

:13:05. > :13:08.fastest times in the world. It is off-putting for some competitors to

:13:08. > :13:12.see her looking so easy in qualifying and the World

:13:12. > :13:18.Championships are ready around the corner, but she is a real class act.

:13:18. > :13:23.Whereas Ofili-Porter in this? A finalist? She is definitely a

:13:23. > :13:28.finalist. She is potentially a medal hope, it was a swift time.

:13:28. > :13:32.She won't embarrass herself in that final, that is for sure. We can see

:13:32. > :13:36.the runners for the 1,500m, and this is a big race, especially for

:13:36. > :13:41.a couple of the British girls. Lisa Dobriskey and Hannah England, but

:13:41. > :13:45.what about the battle for the third qualification spot? Charlene Thomas,

:13:45. > :13:50.she didn't race last weekend, she wasn't quite ready, but she is here

:13:51. > :13:54.today and she is a strong contender. She ran very well in the European

:13:54. > :13:58.Team Championships earlier in the year. She has been heard since then

:13:59. > :14:02.but she ran brilliantly. Stacey Smith could also take that third

:14:02. > :14:06.spot. There is nothing in it in terms of times with those guys but

:14:06. > :14:15.they would need to run a really well in front of the selectors

:14:15. > :14:23.today. Describing this for us, Brendan Foster and Steve Cram.

:14:23. > :14:27.STEVE CRAM: Great to see the packed stands here today. And a England

:14:27. > :14:33.and Shannon Rowbury, names to pick out, with Lisa Dobriskey -- Hannah

:14:33. > :14:40.England. I guess the big question is Stacy Stephane Charlene Thomas,

:14:40. > :14:43.Stacey Smith was that the UK trials and finished 4th. Charlene Thomas

:14:43. > :14:50.this thing out by an injury after a brilliant performance at the

:14:50. > :14:55.European Championships -- missing out. She actually aggravated a

:14:55. > :14:59.problem by stepping on the kerb in training but, Stacey Smith.

:14:59. > :15:07.Charlene was rarely touch and go, wanted to be at the trials, but

:15:07. > :15:12.this is how chance there -- really. Stockton, probably not in

:15:12. > :15:19.contention for the spot. Stasis their fears, our great season so

:15:19. > :15:23.far for staff -- Stacey Smith, a great season so far. Lisa Dobriskey

:15:23. > :15:33.is getting there, in her own wards, but still struggling with one or

:15:33. > :15:38.

:15:38. > :15:48.in a previous event and Hannah England who heads the British

:15:48. > :16:05.

:16:05. > :16:11.Irina Maracheva who ran in the 800 metres yesterday. The Russian is

:16:11. > :16:14.the last to go through with pretty quick running. In fact, it is very

:16:14. > :16:20.fast running and I'm not sure that in many women in this field will be

:16:20. > :16:30.up for that. An England and Lisa Dobriskey have got their places

:16:30. > :16:34.

:16:35. > :16:41.and Stacey Smith are about five metres behind the leading group.

:16:41. > :16:45.private race going on there. Lots of athletes who have been in a

:16:45. > :16:52.position where this has been a trial so there has been a race in

:16:52. > :16:56.itself but a race between two specific athletes. Stacey Smith and

:16:56. > :17:06.Charlene Thomas. But at the back and run and together, Erin Donohue

:17:06. > :17:07.

:17:07. > :17:16.following the pacemaker, doing what she said she would do. Hannah

:17:16. > :17:19.England developing that racing brain, another she is on her way to

:17:19. > :17:25.the World Championships. It would be great to see Lisa Dobriskey

:17:25. > :17:35.return to some sort of form. And see the injury received a little.

:17:35. > :17:40.Stacey Smith is ahead of selling Thomas added does not look to me as

:17:40. > :17:49.if she is moving too well at all. With Stacey Smith, the issue was

:17:49. > :17:54.would you try to beat Charlene Thomas? Charlene is not anywhere

:17:54. > :17:58.near Stacey Smith at the moment who is in a bit of a no man's land and

:17:58. > :18:02.trying to get back to wartime England. Is this a cagey game being

:18:02. > :18:07.played by shelling Thomas? I don't think it is, she wants to be much

:18:07. > :18:12.closer. It is not looking good for Charlene Thomas. There does not

:18:12. > :18:16.much brilliant and now Stacey Smith is trying to catch the second group.

:18:16. > :18:21.He said before the race, it would be strange but Erin Donohue now

:18:21. > :18:31.takes the lead as the pacemaker dropped out. Lisa Dobriskey on her

:18:31. > :18:31.

:18:31. > :18:36.shoulder and then the second group, and Stacey Smith staying closer to

:18:36. > :18:40.the second group, and it is all round the track you are looking for

:18:40. > :18:44.these variations. Can Lisa Dobriskey come into form on the

:18:44. > :18:54.home straight? What is happening to Hannah England? Why issue that far

:18:54. > :18:58.back? What is Stacey Smith up to? People not quite sure what pace to

:18:58. > :19:02.run because of the early fast pace and Lisa Dobriskey pushing on,

:19:02. > :19:12.Shannon Rowbury following her through. Good to see Lisa Dobriskey

:19:12. > :19:16.

:19:16. > :19:19.hit the front. Charlene Thomas has the sprint finish and we know it in

:19:19. > :19:24.her best form she has shown that in the past. An England coming from

:19:24. > :19:28.the back having run a fairly strange race, but it is a bit too

:19:28. > :19:31.late now. I hope Stacey Smith can keep the pressure on. Lisa

:19:31. > :19:41.Dobriskey was kicked out by an England on the trials on that

:19:41. > :19:43.

:19:43. > :19:47.occasion. The early pace, too much to handle and this is better from

:19:47. > :19:51.Lisa Dobriskey. That gap has got to be too big. Lisa Dobriskey will try

:19:51. > :19:55.to win this. A good strong home straight, the American tried to get

:19:55. > :20:00.her shoulder but that is better from Lisa Dobriskey. Stretching

:20:00. > :20:07.away very fast indeed, left herself too much to do for the other

:20:07. > :20:13.contenders. Just inside four minutes and five seconds. Stacey

:20:13. > :20:19.Smith crosses the line at around four minutes and 10 seconds, will

:20:19. > :20:24.that be good enough to ensure her a place? Lisa Dobriskey, good going,

:20:24. > :20:27.but charming Thomas and fortune are dropping out. And Stacey Smith with

:20:27. > :20:32.a B-Standard performance. I wonder if she were dead the third spot?

:20:32. > :20:36.That really was a strange race. It was great to see Lisa Dobriskey

:20:36. > :20:40.come back, a solid time and good performance. I think she ran very

:20:40. > :20:45.well today. She ran with the confident that we know she has got

:20:45. > :20:50.deep down that there they are, Lisa Dobriskey hits the front. Hannah

:20:50. > :20:57.England he won the trials and is a competitor for Lisa Dobriskey, she

:20:57. > :21:01.sprang far too far off the pace. And England is finishing strongly,

:21:01. > :21:05.Lisa Dobriskey working hard and beginning to pull away, has not

:21:05. > :21:14.quite up the zip that we know she possesses but here comes Hannah

:21:14. > :21:21.England, leaving it far too late. ending like a train but too late.

:21:21. > :21:24.Stacey Smith, around about four minutes and 10 seconds. Good

:21:24. > :21:28.performers by Stacey Smith. Impressive return to form by Lisa

:21:28. > :21:33.Dobriskey and that is what you need before you go to the training camp

:21:33. > :21:37.for the World Championships, before you try to win another medal. A

:21:37. > :21:40.confidence booster, a good performance, a winning run and Lisa

:21:40. > :21:45.Dobriskey looking good and Hannah England, she has run well but she

:21:45. > :21:52.needs to be a bit closer when it happens. They are both down there

:21:53. > :21:55.and Lisa Dobriskey is talking to Brandon was saying about getting a

:21:55. > :21:59.good race in before the World Championships, and that is good for

:21:59. > :22:08.confidence. What has that done for you? Such a nice feeling to win

:22:08. > :22:12.again. It is not nice when the are travelling at eight the or night in

:22:12. > :22:17.Diamond League. I was really happy with that there. In the darker

:22:17. > :22:20.moments, I suppose you have to believe that the talent does not go

:22:20. > :22:24.away, just get the conditioning right. Exactly, you have to hold on

:22:24. > :22:27.to that belief. It can be had sometimes but I have got a great

:22:27. > :22:32.family and a great husband and a great team around me and they

:22:32. > :22:35.really, really believe in me. They really helped me to hold on to that.

:22:35. > :22:39.It is looking good today but you have got a few more weeks to go

:22:39. > :22:43.before Daegu to get even more right. You have been there before and done

:22:43. > :22:46.it before, what do you hope to do when you go to the World

:22:46. > :22:51.Championships? I would be silly to go in and not aim for a medal. I

:22:51. > :22:57.need to believe I can achieve one otherwise there's no point in me

:22:57. > :23:05.going. You have to up the level of play. I think it will come, I can

:23:05. > :23:09.turn things round quickly. every single day I get a step closer.

:23:09. > :23:19.wish you well for the World Championships, great to see back to

:23:19. > :23:21.

:23:21. > :23:28.Hannah England getting ahead of Shannon Rowbury. A personal best

:23:28. > :23:38.for Gabrielle Anderson. Big gaps all over the place, the 63 the

:23:38. > :23:43.

:23:43. > :23:46.first lap. That really did upset JOHN INVERDALE: About to start, the

:23:46. > :23:56.Rainbow man of British athletics, colourful personality and shoes,

:23:56. > :24:04.

:24:04. > :24:14.rowers, the juniors alike are, he is the behind the Iranian athlete.

:24:14. > :24:16.

:24:16. > :24:26.It is all about selection, and it is all about who is selected here.

:24:26. > :24:32.The top two have not been decided by both getting A-Standard and

:24:32. > :24:42.first and second. But there is another sport available. He goes

:24:42. > :24:47.

:24:47. > :24:53.slightly ahead of Lawrence Okoye. The camera has lost it, there but I

:24:53. > :24:58.can tell you it was over 60 metres in the third round for Brett Morse.

:24:58. > :25:04.Lawrence Okoye started with 58.59 and then a foul so the pressure on

:25:04. > :25:08.the young 19-year-old. The British record of over 69 metres recently,

:25:08. > :25:13.the European Under 23s. Underperforming in the trials but

:25:33. > :25:37.choir. Can he get over 60 metres? The answer is no and you have to

:25:37. > :25:44.say, talking about the pressure, he looks like he is labouring under it.

:25:44. > :25:50.Yes, he does. Did not perform particularly well in the European

:25:50. > :25:55.Under 23s. Despite the fact he won it with 60 metres. The British

:25:55. > :25:58.record stands be on 67 metres. I do not think it would be a bad thing

:25:58. > :26:01.if he missed the World Championships, it would have been a

:26:01. > :26:11.nice dress rehearsal for the Olympics but watch out for this

:26:11. > :26:16.

:26:16. > :26:26.fellow, he could be big news in the over Laura's acquire a's distance,

:26:26. > :26:27.

:26:27. > :26:33.then Lawrence Okoye will not have a further three froze. In this case,

:26:34. > :26:43.lawyers acquire will finish in 9th, losing to Brett Morse and you would

:26:48. > :26:53.guess that the selectors will have best in the world, those of the

:26:53. > :27:03.indicators that the selectors are looking for. Morse beat Laurence

:27:03. > :27:33.

:27:33. > :27:37.loses through to the next round. champions over 60 metres, and

:27:37. > :27:47.Schillonie Calvert of Jamaica, Jamaica with so much talent. A new

:27:47. > :27:52.personal best of 11.054 Schillonie Calvert. Kelly-Ann Baptiste from

:27:52. > :27:58.Tobago, and has had a good season, she beat Veronica Campbell Brown

:27:59. > :28:03.last month. And the Olympic champion, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce,

:28:03. > :28:09.she has not run since the New York Diamond League back in June. Really

:28:09. > :28:19.interesting to see what sort of form she is in. Candyce McGrone, a

:28:19. > :28:39.

:28:39. > :28:49.Lashauntea Moore... Sorry, Elaine Bailey, a late change there. And

:28:49. > :28:52.

:28:52. > :28:58.Samantha Emery of Jamaica in the through. Really interesting to see

:28:58. > :29:08.Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce there. We will be seeing Carmelita Jeter

:29:08. > :29:09.

:29:09. > :29:15.coming up later, Campbell Brown and other Americans, and Karen Stewart

:29:15. > :29:25.running faster than her. She needs to have a really good meeting here

:29:25. > :29:31.

:29:31. > :29:36.champion, with Kelly-Ann Baptiste going by her side. Forging ahead

:29:36. > :29:46.and Kelly-Ann Baptiste and Shelly- Ann Fraser-Pryce, easing down a bit,

:29:46. > :29:47.

:29:47. > :29:51.never on terms with Kelly-Ann Baptiste, but I think Shelly-Ann

:29:51. > :29:55.Fraser-Pryce is certainly not been the sort of form she wants to beat.

:29:55. > :29:58.She may say that she was just qualifying then which may be true

:29:58. > :30:02.but she needs to find something special in the final later on if

:30:02. > :30:12.she is going to Daegu with something that she can gain some

:30:12. > :30:15.

:30:16. > :30:21.cracking start. Good to see Fraser- Pryce back, the defending champion,

:30:21. > :30:27.by the time we get to Daegu. Kelly- Ann that is, a really good pick up

:30:27. > :30:36.to 50, and then she could afford to relax. The automatic qualifying at

:30:36. > :30:41.coming from lane two, Carl Vert. What do you think about Shelly-Ann

:30:41. > :30:44.Fraser-Pryce? If COLIN JACKSON: It is good to see her back, but it is

:30:44. > :30:51.not quite the form to win the Olympic title.

:30:51. > :30:57.But that is, she is in sensational form -- Kelly-Ann that is. She will

:30:57. > :31:04.certainly feature in the 100m final in Daegu. Carmelita Jeter coming up

:31:04. > :31:14.soon and Abrama Campbell. I think you could be looking at the one to

:31:14. > :31:29.

:31:29. > :31:35.three in Daegu -- ABBA Ron Gecsek back, what is it like trying to get

:31:35. > :31:40.back to those lofty standards? First of all, I must thank you for

:31:40. > :31:45.being here, it has not been a wonderful season, but I give thanks

:31:45. > :31:49.for being able to come back and compete. This season, it is all

:31:49. > :31:54.about execution before the World Championships. This is my last race

:31:54. > :31:58.before, I just wanted to do my best and compete against the best. That

:31:58. > :32:05.is it for today. Do you feel that you are getting closer to the level

:32:05. > :32:09.that we saw you winning the Olympic gold and championship gold?

:32:09. > :32:14.Training has been going a good. I think I am working on my technique

:32:14. > :32:19.a bit and I should be where I am in Daegu and hopefully, I will be able

:32:19. > :32:26.to defend my title. We wish you well, all of the best for the final

:32:26. > :32:30.later. JOHN INVERDALE: We mentioned

:32:30. > :32:34.earlier on that Carmelita Jeter is running at the second semi-final.

:32:34. > :32:40.Yet to win a major title in the run-up to the World Championships,

:32:40. > :32:42.but she is putting that to the back of her mind. At this point, I am

:32:42. > :32:46.not trying to put any extra pressure on myself, because when

:32:46. > :32:51.you do that, you always seem to push herself too hard and don't get

:32:51. > :32:56.the result you want. I am going to place back with my guard up, these

:32:56. > :33:01.women are ready to run, and it is going to be a great line-up -- to

:33:01. > :33:05.Daegu. I am going to have to go there and execute and any Erez I

:33:05. > :33:09.will not be on the podium. What lessons have you learned from the

:33:09. > :33:13.past experiences at major championships that she will take

:33:13. > :33:17.into this one? Being too comfortable, I will not be too

:33:17. > :33:22.comfortable. When you do that, you let your guard them, you are not as

:33:22. > :33:28.aggressive, you are kind of bouncing around like everything is

:33:28. > :33:35.OK -- let your guard down. So I have learnt that. Be comfortable

:33:35. > :33:39.when you go home. This year, we have focused on the 200, getting

:33:40. > :33:45.the stronger, making the team. That was a bigger focused this year. And

:33:45. > :33:49.I definitely feel we make that accomplishment, I made the team, I

:33:49. > :33:56.took second in the USA's, and now I am going back to the 100 and trying

:33:56. > :34:01.to fix a couple of things. People at home might think, 200, 100, what

:34:01. > :34:08.is the difference, you run fast? There is it then did the 200, but

:34:08. > :34:16.what is the subtle difference? there is a bend. There is a big

:34:16. > :34:22.difference, the 100, it is very fast and technical, you only have

:34:22. > :34:26.100m, you can't take the wrong step, someone will tape -- step in front

:34:26. > :34:30.of the undue lose the race. So now we are getting back the sharpness,

:34:30. > :34:40.everything is more technical, and we are getting back to what I love.

:34:40. > :34:41.

:34:41. > :34:44.The 100 is my baby. I love the 200 but the 100 is my baby.

:34:44. > :34:50.I suppose when you have two semi- finals, it kind of highlight the

:34:50. > :34:55.lack of depth in a Women's sprinting. For girls have been had,

:34:55. > :35:01.it would be unfair not to stress that -- the girls have been hurt.

:35:01. > :35:05.Montell Douglas is running. She is here but struggling to find form.

:35:05. > :35:09.It is the inconsistency. They have one good season and then the next

:35:09. > :35:13.season they are injured, so they don't build a platform to end up

:35:13. > :35:18.running it quickly. Jeanette best run at well this year but these are

:35:18. > :35:22.the kind of races we need to see them in. A we were talking about

:35:22. > :35:26.Jodie Williams getting experience last year. Could she not have

:35:27. > :35:30.doubled up today? It is an interesting point but she has come

:35:30. > :35:35.with something specifically in her mind that her team will say, this

:35:35. > :35:39.is what we want to do. She is capable of doing the 100, she

:35:39. > :35:43.wouldn't be embarrassed in this company. But I think they protect

:35:43. > :35:49.her well and they give her, drip feed hair, these competitions when

:35:49. > :35:55.they feel it is right. Someone who is not backwards in coming forwards

:35:56. > :36:02.is Phillips Idowu. Jonathan Edwards will describe his first jump.

:36:02. > :36:12.JONATHAN EDWARDS: One of a highlights -- one of the highlights.

:36:12. > :36:22.

:36:22. > :36:26.important heads are four athletes. Teddy Tamgho is injured, and it has

:36:26. > :36:33.lost some of its interest, you can think that Phillips Idowu will win

:36:33. > :36:36.this any way he wants. Yes, Teddy Tamgho against Phillips Idowu world

:36:36. > :36:42.is a mouth-watering prospect. As you can tell from that, he has

:36:42. > :36:48.plenty more to come. A modern interpretation of a bow he can. A

:36:48. > :36:58.lot more to come, we suspect that know he can. Back to the men's

:36:58. > :37:21.

:37:21. > :37:29.throwers of all time of. The second time. Not short of 40 years old, so

:37:29. > :37:39.a real example of longevity. Many younger men here, but he has

:37:39. > :37:39.

:37:39. > :38:27.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 47 seconds

:38:27. > :38:37.from last weekend. -- Onoura. The veteran is Ferguson McKenzie. She

:38:37. > :38:46.

:38:46. > :38:53.has had a lane in all Olympics Carmelita Jeter. She wants the big

:38:53. > :39:01.one this year. Another stepping stone she will be taking today. The

:39:01. > :39:11.final, of course, well be a test. The Nigerian, a really talented

:39:11. > :39:15.

:39:15. > :39:25.athlete. Baba of the USA, part of the team that won the sprint

:39:25. > :39:32.

:39:32. > :39:39.recapture the form that brought her the British record back in 2008,

:39:39. > :39:44.but 11.05. That is what she ran yesterday in the sprint relay. It

:39:44. > :39:53.is a real test for both British girls. You suspect the action well

:39:53. > :40:03.a cat in lanes two up to lane five or even lane six -- a curve. --

:40:03. > :40:17.

:40:17. > :40:24.the two fastest losers from both semi-finals. Carmelita Jeter got an

:40:24. > :40:33.absolute flyer. Anderson going well. Ferguson McKenzie is lagging behind.

:40:33. > :40:37.But Lagat Carmelita Jeter. -- Look at. 11 seconds. Her pick up after

:40:37. > :40:47.50m was absolutely wonderful. That was a headwind of one metre per

:40:47. > :40:52.second. Carmelita Jeter in very good form indeed. That was

:40:52. > :40:59.impressive. As good as Kelly-Ann that is look, you can say that,

:40:59. > :41:06.later get a lot better -- that is. From the pick-up, she was just

:41:06. > :41:12.gliding away. She is in superb form. That is somebody at the top of her

:41:12. > :41:22.game at the moment, miles ahead of the rest. If anything, she looked

:41:22. > :41:30.

:41:30. > :41:36.better than Kelly and. What do you they are run able to find him.

:41:36. > :41:41.Carmelita Jeter, a very familiar action -- they are unable. She

:41:41. > :41:45.bounces down the track, a very high a knee lift. This sort of take make

:41:46. > :41:51.that not everybody can hold, but she talks a lot about the event of

:41:51. > :41:58.gym work she does, how strong she is -- the amount. There is evidence

:41:58. > :42:05.of it there. Let's find out the thoughts of Carmelita Jeter. She

:42:05. > :42:10.must be pleased,. You have got the big screen here, you can watch the

:42:10. > :42:14.race back straight away. What is your assessment? I believe I did

:42:14. > :42:18.what my instructions were. This is my last race before the World

:42:18. > :42:24.Championships, so we have to see what we need to sharpen up and fix

:42:24. > :42:31.up. You said to me coming back from the 200 to the 100 is like coming

:42:31. > :42:35.home. Do you feel more at home? I do. The 100 is my baby. I love

:42:35. > :42:40.the 100. Now for the final, what do you think is still within you and

:42:40. > :42:43.what can you produce? I still have to run a final and these women are

:42:44. > :42:53.running great. I can't get beside myself, I have to go out and

:42:53. > :43:03.execute. All the best for the final. Carmelita Jeter certainly goes into

:43:03. > :43:10.the final as the favourite. Disappointing runs for Montell

:43:10. > :43:14.Douglas and Anyika in 7th and 8th place.

:43:14. > :43:17.Marilyn Okoro missed the qualification by five hundredths of

:43:17. > :43:21.a second last night. You would think that is it because the team

:43:21. > :43:29.selection race tomorrow. She went off to the British League match on

:43:29. > :43:33.her own without any pacemakers and ran 1: 59.51 an hour ago. So that

:43:33. > :43:38.means she will definitely take up the third spot in the 800, and hats

:43:38. > :43:43.off to have. To go and do it on your road after what must have been

:43:43. > :43:48.a huge disappointment to last night -- on your own, it shows the

:43:48. > :43:51.determination and certainly, she will be joining Jennifer Meadows

:43:51. > :44:01.and -- in that world championship team that will be announced

:44:01. > :44:01.

:44:01. > :44:06.tomorrow. The men's discus. The Hungarian has

:44:06. > :44:16.been struggling. That is better, but I don't think it will take the

:44:16. > :44:31.

:44:31. > :44:35.competition didn't get over to a great start, two fouls. But he is

:44:35. > :44:43.what is known in the trade as a bit of an animal, tall, muscular and

:44:43. > :44:50.very strong. Explosive, as well. Yes, our big improvement for him.

:44:50. > :44:53.66.29. -- a big improvement. Into second place.

:44:53. > :44:57.We were talking last night about how it is a year to the day until

:44:57. > :45:02.the men's 100m final in the Olympic Games. The Olympics will come and

:45:02. > :45:09.go and then the Parrela mix will be with us. Bash at the Paralympics

:45:09. > :45:14.will be with us. Everyone keeps talking a, every it -- whether it

:45:14. > :45:18.is Boris Johnson not David Cameron, and we have got caught up in the

:45:18. > :45:23.hysteria of the Olympics, but the Paralympics, are you happy with

:45:23. > :45:25.their preparations with that? really happy, I didn't think we

:45:25. > :45:29.would have won organising committee organising both games and that has

:45:29. > :45:35.been a huge benefit for the venues, the Olympic village and now the

:45:35. > :45:39.athletes feel. Their next big test is making sure we felt the stadiums.

:45:39. > :45:44.They were able to do that in China, what we need to do is sell tickets

:45:44. > :45:48.and we need lot of British people supporting the British medallists.

:45:48. > :45:52.What can be done about that? What has been really useful is for the

:45:52. > :45:56.first time, we have had a disability events linked to the

:45:56. > :45:59.Diamond League, more of them an integrated into the Diamond League

:45:59. > :46:04.programme bad back bills a better basis for support. Other sports are

:46:04. > :46:08.doing it as well. There has been more media coverage and hopefully,

:46:08. > :46:18.the excitement around the Olympics, people will think that they didn't

:46:18. > :46:18.

:46:18. > :46:23.get tickets for that they will disability events are being

:46:23. > :46:27.incorporated into mainstream events like this? Do you think there is

:46:27. > :46:31.ever the possibility, I don't know how far down the line, where almost

:46:31. > :46:37.the whole thing is played on a level playing field? I think it is

:46:37. > :46:40.possible. It is changing in some attitudes. They have always been

:46:40. > :46:47.traditionally separate. I think it is positive that we are not trying

:46:47. > :46:49.to do it overnight because what we are trying to do in disability

:46:49. > :46:53.athletics is build a broader base. We have really struggled with

:46:53. > :46:56.numbers at the base of the pyramid and with a lot of changes after

:46:56. > :47:00.Beijing, the sport has been restructured, we have got more

:47:00. > :47:07.young people coming through than ever before and because we have got

:47:07. > :47:10.quality events, it is great. We don't want events that are not

:47:10. > :47:18.competitive, they will not attract the crowds. What we have got now is

:47:18. > :47:28.great. We have got the men's 200 metres race so shortly. And we had

:47:28. > :47:33.the race earlier on. This is the women's 100 metres, in which Jenny

:47:33. > :47:40.and Katrina were running. They will be amazingly competitive. It is a

:47:40. > :47:44.real struggle and it has made it a really long season but what we have

:47:44. > :47:48.got any cerebral palsy classes, which these girls competed in, his

:47:48. > :47:53.strength of depth. They are competing week in, week out. They

:47:53. > :47:56.are trying to get the times they need. It is obviously very

:47:57. > :48:06.difficult but you have managed to transcend the barrier, it is quite

:48:06. > :48:12.hard for disability athletes to become mainstream. This is one of

:48:12. > :48:20.the 800 metres runners, looking very strong. Yes, she has developed

:48:20. > :48:26.so much confidence, Shelley made a massive job up in Beijing. She got

:48:27. > :48:32.the bronze medal in the 1500s, and what it has done is given her the

:48:32. > :48:35.chance to rebuild and the pushing technique has developed. She is not

:48:36. > :48:40.just strong, she is able to push fast and that will give her

:48:40. > :48:44.confidence, beating a stronger field last night, to come out and

:48:44. > :48:47.know that she can do it. She has always had the ability and talent.

:48:47. > :48:53.It is just sometimes in races, she has sat back and that other people

:48:53. > :48:58.do it. Now it is putting the right races around Shelley to make sure

:48:58. > :49:02.she transfers her ability to make sure she can do it. And now she has

:49:02. > :49:05.got the right coach and training, she believes she can do it.

:49:05. > :49:09.works on these streets of London, Richard Whitehead is about to

:49:09. > :49:13.compete with the 200 metres. This is an extraordinary feat under any

:49:13. > :49:18.circumstance, but this is the first double leg amputee to run a

:49:18. > :49:21.marathon in under three hours. Just extraordinary. Yes, and he is an

:49:21. > :49:27.incredible athlete and when he ran the World Championships earlier

:49:27. > :49:33.this year. Nobody would ever put a bet on him making a medal and going

:49:33. > :49:38.from the marathon to dropping down to the 200 metres. It is more like

:49:38. > :49:42.cycling and running but he has got a massive future ahead. He is

:49:42. > :49:52.running 26 miles less this afternoon and Steve Cram will

:49:52. > :49:55.

:49:55. > :50:05.three hours. This is the line-up, Jack Swift in lane two. Richard

:50:05. > :50:14.

:50:14. > :50:20.Brown in three and Ian Jones in you could so that possibly Ian

:50:20. > :50:25.Jones is the favourite but certainly a few bright talents here.

:50:25. > :50:30.Jonathan Peacock in lane six, just 18 years of age. There's Jack Swift,

:50:30. > :50:40.the Australian on the inside, 4th in the IPC world 400 metres this

:50:40. > :50:47.year. Richard Brown from America, 24: 36, a new personal best set by

:50:47. > :50:57.him this season. There's Ian Jones, two Paralympic bronze medals in

:50:57. > :50:59.

:50:59. > :51:07.has been around a lot longer, Joshua Kerrison outside in lane

:51:07. > :51:15.five. And Jonathan Peacock then, just 18 years of age and is already

:51:15. > :51:21.having a great season. 24.01, a new personal best and that will put him

:51:22. > :51:27.right in the mix here. Richard Whitehead at the other end, of

:51:27. > :51:37.scale in terms of age, perhaps he would not like me saying that. And

:51:37. > :51:50.

:51:50. > :52:00.crowd looking forward to seeing her Olympics but also at the

:52:00. > :52:26.

:52:26. > :52:31.aware of Jonathan Peacock inside him. They get away and Peacock is

:52:31. > :52:35.out very quickly indeed, Ian Jones going very well but it is the

:52:35. > :52:41.youngster who is leading them round the top bend and Peacock has got

:20:37. > :20:42.thought I would bounce-back fine, my rehab was great but it is

:20:42. > :20:49.different. If you do not push your body to that level for a year, it

:20:49. > :20:52.almost forget added to read. The challenge has been to remind my

:20:52. > :20:56.body of that. It has been a challenge but one that I am

:20:56. > :21:02.actually enjoying, getting back to the top and I know I will get there

:21:02. > :21:05.again. I have never been defeated this many times in one season and

:21:05. > :21:08.so I am starting to appreciate that when everybody lines up on the

:21:08. > :21:14.track, everybody ready wants that gold medal, not the first person

:21:14. > :21:19.who wins every time, everybody wants to be successful so I

:21:19. > :21:23.appreciate all the athletes who take part on all the levels.

:21:23. > :21:33.JOHN INVERDALE: We mentioned that Sanya Richards-Ross has run under

:21:33. > :21:37.four minutes over a hundred times in her career. Hardy you assess

:21:37. > :21:41.four weeks away from the World Championships? She is on the move,

:21:41. > :21:51.she is on the move. She did not run well last week. Why do you think

:21:51. > :21:52.

:21:52. > :21:55.that was? On Sundays... As she was trying to find form. She had great

:21:55. > :22:00.race in Barcelona but then the next week she is not quite on form. She

:22:00. > :22:06.has to keep the rhythm. 400 metres is about finding your rhythm,

:22:06. > :22:12.trusting and being confident. I think Christine's biggest problem

:22:12. > :22:17.is so confident. And she is a bit rusty. I think you are correct, she

:22:17. > :22:23.is race rusty. You need to get into the groove on a regular basis. When

:22:23. > :22:27.she returned for the first world title, it was out of the blue. Now

:22:27. > :22:32.we have expectations. When you carry them and you get injury

:22:32. > :22:41.worries, there are a lot of things Mountain in your brain. You can see

:22:41. > :22:44.for yourself, she wants to perform well. All athletes go to be the

:22:44. > :22:49.best they can possibly be as so it will be an interesting battle to

:22:49. > :22:53.see how she approaches this finely before she gets to Daegu. It is a

:22:54. > :23:02.tough race but at this stage, you do not want to be Peking today, you

:23:02. > :23:06.want to be peaking in four weeks' time. In athletics terms, she has

:23:06. > :23:13.got three weeks, which is a good time to get the battle speed that

:23:13. > :23:17.she vitally needs. In terms of the backlog and all the work, she needs

:23:17. > :23:22.to be sharp and confident and this can set her up. I am confident is

:23:22. > :23:26.the key. You need to be confident to go into a competition like this.

:23:26. > :23:36.A big race for Christine Ohuruogu and a very competitive race, here's

:23:36. > :23:40.

:23:40. > :23:50.Britain to try to get a spot in the Britain to try to get a spot in the

:23:50. > :23:56.

:23:56. > :24:00.but she cannot compete for Britain yet, she has not been cleared to

:24:00. > :24:07.compete for Great Britain at the World Championships but will be

:24:07. > :24:14.eligible next year at the Olympics. Second in the trials behind Perri

:24:14. > :24:21.Shakes-Drayton. Jessica Beard, third in the American championships,

:24:21. > :24:31.and then Sanya Richards-Ross. With the 2mm race she ran and talking

:24:31. > :24:38.

:24:38. > :24:41.about that earlier on. A sign that Williams-Mills, took the bronze in

:24:41. > :24:45.another recent championship. Rosemary White having a good season,

:24:45. > :24:53.the Jamaican, a couple of good races in the Diamond League, second

:24:53. > :25:01.in New York and in Birmingham. And Christine Ohuruogu does wants to

:25:01. > :25:05.put her whole race together. She started with real zeal in

:25:05. > :25:08.Birmingham and then she finished strongly as ever but left herself

:25:08. > :25:12.far too much to do and never got close to Perri Shakes-Drayton.

:25:12. > :25:18.Shericka Williams, the Olympic silver medallist and silver

:25:18. > :25:24.medallist in Berlin two years ago. Not in top form this year and Lee

:25:25. > :25:32.McConnell who has had a bit of an up and down season. 4th in the UK

:25:32. > :25:42.Championships because Chana Cox isn't eligible, but made her

:25:42. > :25:49.

:25:49. > :25:59.comeback kids. Although you would not call them kids in terms of

:25:59. > :26:14.

:26:14. > :26:21.Olympic champion, Christine Ohuruogu. She started a bit slower

:26:21. > :26:25.this time but going well inside the, Rosemarie Whyte has started quicker.

:26:25. > :26:30.Christine Ohuruogu has started incredibly slowly. She is watching

:26:30. > :26:34.the athletes run away from her down the back straight. She is not any

:26:34. > :26:41.race at all at this point, it is rosemary Wright leading them pass

:26:41. > :26:48.the 200 metres point. Christine Ohuruogu is last at the moment.

:26:49. > :26:54.Sanya Richards-Ross, started to look good here. Lee McConnell is

:26:54. > :27:01.running well in lane eight but starting to fade. Who will get

:27:01. > :27:09.there? It is Sanya Richards-Ross who wins it, 49.66, and Christine

:27:09. > :27:15.Ohuruogu was last. 49 pts 66, she is back. Not quite back to their

:27:15. > :27:22.best but that is a huge jump forward for Sanya Richards-Ross,

:27:22. > :27:27.goes under 50 seconds for the first time this year. Second fastest

:27:27. > :27:32.looking down the list in the world this year. That 200 metres race in

:27:32. > :27:37.Budapest, a really good pointer to the form she was finding but what

:27:37. > :27:42.on earth was wrong with Christine Ohuruogu? Started slowly and never,

:27:42. > :27:52.ever got into the race. She must be wondering... That was not even as

:27:52. > :27:52.

:27:52. > :27:57.good a performance as last week. this stage in the race, Christine

:27:57. > :28:00.Ohuruogu looking a leaden in her legs. And Sanya Richards-Ross and

:28:00. > :28:05.Rosemarie Whyte were absolutely tearing up the track. A great

:28:05. > :28:10.tussle between those two. Keep an eye on what Lee McConnell, the

:28:10. > :28:15.left-hand side of the screen and Sanya Richards-Ross very keen in

:28:15. > :28:21.the finish. Second fastest time in the world as we have been saying,

:28:21. > :28:25.very swift. I wonder if Lee McConnell has got the A-Standard? A

:28:25. > :28:35.great turn for Sanya Richards-Ross. Clapping and applauding herself,

:28:35. > :28:36.

:28:36. > :28:41.Sanya Richards-Ross, a big smile on her face. You always said you will

:28:41. > :28:46.be speaking to me at the end of the race, he knew would win. Yes, today

:28:46. > :28:54.is like my coming-out party again. I have been trying and training so

:28:54. > :28:59.hard. Today gives me confidence and I really executed did well. And no

:28:59. > :29:02.coach will be happy and I am as well. The money go through the kind

:29:02. > :29:07.of comeback that you are, had you overcome the niggling doubts in

:29:07. > :29:14.your head? It is all putting it into place, but you must have the

:29:14. > :29:20.doubts? Your eyes, that has been the hardest part. -- yes, that has

:29:20. > :29:25.been the hardest part. I put all the fear aside and run for all my

:29:25. > :29:29.heart. To build on this for the World Championships? Yes, I have

:29:29. > :29:39.run into shape at the right time and their running faster and faster.

:29:39. > :29:43.

:29:43. > :29:47.I am so excited for Daegu. Thank women's 400 metres running, that is

:29:47. > :29:53.very encouraging for Sanya Richards-Ross, a personal best for

:29:54. > :29:58.Rosemarie Whyte. And Novlene Williams-Mills getting third spot,

:29:58. > :30:08.but a big season's best and an A- Standard for Lee McConnell

:30:08. > :30:10.

:30:10. > :30:18.finishing in 5th place. She him Firth and let us get Christine

:30:19. > :30:26.Can you explain why it was not there for you today? Obviously I

:30:26. > :30:31.felt really good, and just... I don't really know what happened

:30:31. > :30:39.there to be honest. I warmed up OK, I felt fine. I had a cold last week

:30:39. > :30:45.so that was last week but it is gone now. That was really appalling.

:30:45. > :30:49.When does it hits you, as soon as you come out of the blocks? It was

:30:49. > :30:56.fine for the first two, my instruction was to hit it hard and

:30:56. > :31:01.I did and then I felt a rosemary flight passed effortlessly and I

:31:01. > :31:10.thought, am I going that slow? And then I tried to pick it up but it

:31:10. > :31:14.wasn't there. We saw that you had that excellent run in Barcelona and

:31:14. > :31:21.last week and then this week. How do you evaluate what is going on

:31:21. > :31:26.for you recently? I have to be realistic. I have not done as much

:31:26. > :31:31.training, I am pretty much just try to catch up and I am fortunate to

:31:31. > :31:37.have made a qualifying time but between now and the worlds, I need

:31:37. > :31:43.to catch up and I will go back to my coach and talk about... You are

:31:43. > :31:48.going to tell me it was rubbish but this is about how I can move

:31:48. > :31:54.forward and see what we can do in Daegu. Do you know there is

:31:54. > :32:00.something specifically to focus on, is a case of going back to the

:32:00. > :32:05.drawing board and working out a game-plan? I had a total of five I

:32:05. > :32:10.shall sessions and working at 400 place, it is about putting the work

:32:10. > :32:15.back in the tank and I have lost a lot of time and I'm really behind

:32:15. > :32:19.so it is good to have a qualifying time but I really don't put to go

:32:19. > :32:23.to Daegu na hotness, I want to have confidence in my feet and what I

:32:23. > :32:27.can do. It is a matter of trying to put some more work back in and

:32:27. > :32:37.seeing where we can sharpen up with the time we have got. We wish you

:32:37. > :32:42.It was almost like intruding on personal grief, she doesn't know

:32:42. > :32:46.where she is going. She sounds a little bit lost, Christine always

:32:46. > :32:50.speaks honestly, but that was a terrible race. Bed was terrible for

:32:50. > :32:55.her and it is soul-destroying seeing how race fall apart -- it

:32:55. > :33:02.was. She couldn't put her finger on what happened but, but I she said,

:33:02. > :33:05.nothing in the tank. How reputation is on the line and it is hard to be

:33:05. > :33:09.a world champion, Olympic champion, going into these World

:33:09. > :33:14.Championships looking like a shadow of your former self. The question

:33:14. > :33:19.is, should she be going if she is not confident? I was going to ask

:33:19. > :33:23.you that. If she almost better off if she is suddenly cast adrift and

:33:23. > :33:27.not clear about her tactics and her fitness, is she almost better of

:33:27. > :33:31.saying I am I Olympic champion and world champion and I will watch it

:33:31. > :33:36.on the television? Sometimes that is the right decision. She will sit

:33:36. > :33:41.down with the team and they will make a positive decision on that.

:33:41. > :33:45.They will say, you are not in the shape we wanted to be in there, at

:33:45. > :33:49.that you are capable of being in, so we may just leave the World

:33:49. > :33:54.Championships and concentrate on getting well. She said she had been

:33:54. > :33:59.suffering from a cold. And on top of that, keeping fit. You need to

:33:59. > :34:02.keep fit so you can work day-in, day-out. Can I ask you one question

:34:02. > :34:07.from the point of view of the Spectator? I am sure everybody

:34:07. > :34:12.watching at home, 100m into that race, she had been overtaken by

:34:12. > :34:17.everybody and I am sure people were asking a, what is happening? If you

:34:17. > :34:22.put yourself in Christine's head, what was she thinking? The worst

:34:22. > :34:27.thing for me, we are used to see how it covering a lot in the tank

:34:27. > :34:31.and coming through strongly. -- we I used to seeing have. I thought

:34:31. > :34:37.she was hurt, I thought she was going to stop. A lot of serious

:34:37. > :34:41.questions. It is about that power thing. You think you are doing one

:34:41. > :34:45.thing on the reality is something else. She has been here before, you

:34:45. > :34:52.White used to timing the rhythm, and if you haven't got it, you keep

:34:52. > :34:58.trying to do it -- he why used to. A positive 0.2 ended on, Lee

:34:58. > :35:02.McConnell getting a x standard -- Lee McConnell getting and a

:35:02. > :35:12.standard. Yes, she just stuck to have planned. She will be happy

:35:12. > :35:16.today. -- AC stuck to have planned. Even though the weather is not for

:35:16. > :35:21.what we hoped it would be, it is a tremendous atmosphere. I hope that

:35:21. > :35:23.is coming through. is coming through.

:35:24. > :35:33.Now it is the 3,000 metres steeplechase for women. That is

:35:33. > :35:40.what we have got on the track. Eilish McColgan will be looking for

:35:40. > :35:50.a good time, the British No. 2. But the Ethiopian and the Kenyans are

:35:50. > :35:56.going to beat the dangers. Hyman on the outside, she is the pacemaker.

:35:56. > :36:03.Chemos, bronze medallist in the World Championships. Chepkurui just

:36:03. > :36:12.inside her. She is a pacemaker as well, often, but she does finish

:36:12. > :36:20.races. Lidia Road pitch, she is quite quick. -- Lydia Jebet Rotich.

:36:20. > :36:30.Bekele, at and Barbara Park, the former British world record holder.

:36:30. > :36:38.-- the former British record holder, Barbara Park. -- Park. And Njoroge,

:36:38. > :36:48.a silver medallist a few years back. Purity Kirui is a real talent that

:36:48. > :36:49.

:36:49. > :36:54.18 years old. Bash at. McColgan, just for 20 years old, she has run

:36:54. > :37:03.some very good races this season. She finished second in the UK

:37:03. > :37:10.championships over 5,000m, very tall and strong. Lustigova, Krause,

:37:10. > :37:19.we saw an Brigitte Franek of the USA, and Emma Coburn of the USA. --

:37:20. > :37:26.Brigitte Franek. A chance for McColgan to stamp her authority

:37:26. > :37:32.before the plane to Daegu. McColgan, the tall figure wearing

:37:32. > :37:36.the British vest. Her mother, Liz McColgan, the former world champion.

:37:36. > :37:43.Already it has become apparent that the Africans have a move to the

:37:43. > :37:49.front, but so has Barbara. BRENDAN FOSTER: Three of the fastest

:37:49. > :37:53.athletes in the world, following in the footsteps of the Kenyan men.

:37:53. > :37:58.The Kenyan women are led by the tiny figure of Chemos, who has won

:37:58. > :38:08.all of her Diamond League races this year. There she is asking the

:38:08. > :38:10.

:38:10. > :38:15.pacemaker to go faster than originally planned. Parker, Right

:38:15. > :38:18.at the back of the group. McColgan will be looking for a qualifying

:38:18. > :38:25.time for the World Championships. But the race for the Diamond League

:38:25. > :38:33.points is that the front with the three Kenyans. But can Barber ago

:38:33. > :38:36.close to Helen Clitheroe's British record today -- Barbara.

:38:36. > :38:46.We are getting to the final stages of the men's triple jump. This is

:38:46. > :38:46.

:38:47. > :38:50.the only major change since we last saw red. -- I saw it. Tosin Oke is

:38:50. > :39:00.sitting in second place. The Phillips Idowu will is in third

:39:00. > :39:06.

:39:06. > :39:16.Taylor and that massive 17.6 D8. He has had three shots that et. --

:39:16. > :39:16.

:39:16. > :39:23.17.68. Bad performances probably again below 70 metres. It is not a

:39:23. > :39:31.crisis off Christian Ohuruogu proportions -- off. But he will be

:39:31. > :39:35.hoping to retain a his title in the Daegu. We are not saying he would

:39:35. > :39:38.do that, but she never would have thought he would be beaten so

:39:38. > :39:47.comprehensively here at Crystal Palace.

:39:47. > :39:55.This is Tom Parsons in the high jump. Very nice indeed. He is

:39:55. > :39:59.guaranteed to be on the plane to Daegu. His second attempt there.

:39:59. > :40:06.Also Martyn Bernard, he finished second. He needs to guarantee his

:40:06. > :40:10.place, but he has got 2.25 at his third attempt -- attempt to

:40:10. > :40:14.guarantee selection. No significant move in the

:40:14. > :40:24.steeplechase at the moment, it is still high man, the Jamaican

:40:24. > :40:30.pacemaker at the front -- Hyman. Chemos, up behind. And the Barbara,

:40:30. > :40:34.right at the back end of the group, she is stranded. Just looking at

:40:34. > :40:44.that second group, McColgan, she was dead last but one point, she is

:40:44. > :40:48.

:40:48. > :40:54.beginning to work away through the field. Parker, she must have been

:40:54. > :40:57.about 3.12, so not as quick as we anticipated. Chemos, the leading

:40:57. > :41:03.athlete in the world in this event this here, just on the shoulder of

:41:03. > :41:11.the pacemaker and getting ready to make her move. Then the following

:41:11. > :41:13.group, right in the middle of that, McColgan, daughter of Liz McColgan,

:41:13. > :41:20.who was when the World Championships when she was one

:41:20. > :41:23.year-old, Eilish McColgan. She is running well today. The qualifying

:41:23. > :41:33.time is well within her compass and it looks as though the pace is

:41:33. > :41:35.

:41:35. > :41:41.going reasonably strongly. Parker, she is in a bit of no-man's-land.

:41:41. > :41:47.This is an accomplished performance by Chemos. Not a conventional

:41:47. > :41:55.technique, but it doesn't offer working well. -- it isn't half

:41:55. > :42:00.working well. McColgan moving well up the outside. If she sticks to

:42:00. > :42:06.her task, she has got a good chance. She almost a step over that hurdle,

:42:06. > :42:11.she is a tall athlete -- she almost stepped over. But way back of the

:42:11. > :42:21.pace being set by the Africans. Nevertheless, solid performances at

:42:21. > :42:26.

:42:26. > :42:36.the moment by the British runners. Certainly after the first, there, -

:42:36. > :42:42.- after the first kilometre, Parker was on for a personal best.

:42:42. > :42:46.African setting a fast pace at the front. Chemos is very happy to lead.

:42:46. > :42:53.She has already done and nine minutes and 12 seconds this year.

:42:53. > :42:58.It doesn't look as though they are going as quick as that kind of pace.

:42:58. > :43:06.This is a sign of confidence, you run your own race even though the

:43:06. > :43:14.athletes of -- bar tagging have. They come towards 2000 metres. Less

:43:15. > :43:24.than three laps to go. The Chemos looks strong. McColgan is moving

:43:25. > :43:37.

:43:37. > :43:47.The leaders are beginning to stretch away now. Chemos, steady at

:43:47. > :43:52.

:43:52. > :43:57.the front. Ben Njoroge is still up there. -- and Njoroge. The two

:43:57. > :44:05.Britons are locked together. Chemos has been so steady, driving on,

:44:05. > :44:11.setting the pace. It is not usually quick. A Njoroge just keeping at

:44:11. > :44:14.pace with Chemos. Not letting her getting away too much. Just over

:44:14. > :44:21.two laps to go and it is still the world championship bronze medallist

:44:21. > :44:29.who is leading. Six minutes 342000 metres for the leaders and the

:44:29. > :44:38.chasing group are a fair bit behind -- 6 need -- six minutes and 30

:44:39. > :44:42.seconds for the leaders over 2000 metres. The pace is under strong

:44:42. > :44:47.enough, it isn't quick enough and it looks to be as if it is not

:44:47. > :44:50.going to be quick enough for a qualifying time for Daegu. The race

:44:50. > :44:55.itself is slightly different, and I don't think this is the race we

:44:55. > :45:01.will see in Daegu. These are the best athletes and the world. Chemos

:45:01. > :45:08.burst on the scene in 2009, she hasn't -- hadn't run the

:45:08. > :45:17.steeplechase until that year. Irish McColgan or rub moving through

:45:17. > :45:23.nicely. -- Eilish McColgan. The European athlete that the back and

:45:23. > :45:33.the African athletes at the front. Look at the technique of Chemos.

:45:33. > :45:43.Chemos leads with an Njoroge in second place. Lydia Jebet Rotich

:47:32. > :47:37.Barbara Parker, heading for a qualifying time, the A-Standard she

:47:37. > :47:41.was on time for. She got up and kept going and has cut the

:49:43. > :49:50.performers, my mind has been set on competing at the World

:49:50. > :49:54.Championships. It was quite a struggle today. The form you have

:49:54. > :49:59.been in all year, and then this kind of thing, it does not set you

:49:59. > :50:04.back exactly, you know where you stand for the World Championships?

:50:04. > :50:08.Yes, definitely. I knew I was not quite right last week. I was hoping

:50:08. > :50:11.that I had enough recovery within a week to put in a good jump. This is

:50:11. > :50:16.exactly what I did not want to happen! But unfortunately the

:50:16. > :50:22.result is what it was. I have got another four weeks before the final

:50:22. > :50:26.in Daegu and that I have been working on. I am able to turn it

:50:26. > :50:33.round usually at the major championships. He said to us last

:50:38. > :50:41.Teddy Tamgho is not around, so many more people around so you cannot

:50:41. > :50:46.afford to get complacent and Christian Taylor showed that today.

:50:46. > :50:51.Yes, definitely. At the championships, there will always be

:50:51. > :50:56.somebody who will pull it out of the woodwork. I need to make sure

:50:56. > :51:03.that when I get to the World Championships, I have got working

:51:03. > :51:06.by then. I will put the work in to get the preparation and it is

:51:06. > :51:09.affecting my performances right now but I am happy because the way I am

:51:09. > :51:14.going it is going well. I can't do that and compete well at the same

:51:24. > :51:26.

:51:26. > :51:34.right are behind you, good luck A day for soul-searching for

:52:30. > :52:35.disappointed with her run. She has run faster than that. Further

:52:35. > :52:44.disappointment for British track fans in the Endsleigh Carr Mile.

:52:44. > :52:50.James Shane is not lining up, he has got an Achilles problem.

:52:50. > :53:00.Although it is a one mile race, these athletes were given

:53:04. > :53:14.from Kenya. And Bernard Lagat who undoubtedly will be a big threat to

:53:14. > :53:18.Mo Farah if he does contest that. There is a photo finish timing

:53:18. > :53:21.mechanism at 1,500 metres. I last chance for everybody to get the A-

:53:22. > :53:30.Standard. And Andrew Baggaley has had a pretty bad run so far and has

:53:30. > :53:40.been up and down. He was easily beaten by James Shane in the UK

:53:40. > :53:48.

:53:48. > :53:54.cotton? Our new European champion? And Nick McCormick who lead it out

:53:54. > :54:04.of the trials earlier last week. Became the latest in the wonderful

:54:04. > :54:11.

:54:11. > :54:16.last year. Try to get back to that sort of form this year. Bernard

:54:26. > :54:34.

:54:34. > :54:42.And Miller from the United States. A real shame that James Shane is

:55:19. > :55:33.

:56:04. > :56:10.got two athletes Kriss in this one his very high standards this year.

:56:10. > :56:16.He has not made the Kenyan team for the World Championships. Bernard

:56:16. > :56:20.Lagat has been in really good form and came off second best to Mo

:56:20. > :56:23.Farah in the Monaco 5,000 metres, that was his last race but he has

:56:23. > :56:28.been making sure he has got the pace that he thinks will be

:56:28. > :56:38.required when they get to the final in Daegu and this is a good test

:56:38. > :56:39.

:56:40. > :56:49.for Bernard Lagat, wanting to measure his speed. Nick McCormick

:56:50. > :57:00.

:57:00. > :57:10.following the pacemaker. Bernard Lagat knows he cannot give Choge

:57:10. > :57:27.

:57:27. > :57:33.any distance. And Adam cotton knows that the threat is right

:57:33. > :57:41.behind him. Bernard Lagat still sitting there and a bit of a gap

:57:41. > :57:49.which has picked up. Nick McCormick leading the British challenge a

:57:49. > :57:54.good way back. Two minutes 53 at the bow. Choge running well but

:57:54. > :57:58.Bernard Lagat almost cruising over her shoulders. Mo Farah

:57:58. > :58:02.demonstrated last night that he has got a strong finish, but when they

:58:03. > :58:12.come to the championships, Bernard Lagat will be winning the 5,000

:58:13. > :58:15.

:58:15. > :58:25.metres but not the 10,000 metres. 200 metres to go, the American has

:58:25. > :58:33.made of the ground. Choge is still hanging on, the two of them come

:58:33. > :58:40.from a similar management camp. It is going to be the American, coming

:58:41. > :58:50.to take the when, that is a shock. He beat Bernard Lagat. Choge is

:58:51. > :58:53.

:58:53. > :58:58.third. And then they come trailing in behind. Nick McCormick, first of

:58:58. > :59:08.the British athletes through, and then add and cotton, but Andrew

:59:08. > :59:10.

:59:10. > :59:16.Bernard Lagat, and then taking on in the last 60 metres. Bernard

:59:16. > :59:20.Lagat had his chance, but Manzano run a really strong last lap. He

:59:20. > :59:25.ran really well there. Coming into the finishing straight, it has

:59:25. > :59:30.almost anybody. But Nick McCormick had a good performance, very

:59:30. > :59:35.disappointing run by Andrew Baddeley, but there's Choge into

:59:35. > :59:40.the final straight. And Bernard Lagat goes on at his very best, he

:59:40. > :59:46.might win that one on his best day, but Manzano pushing and holding on.

:59:46. > :59:52.Working so hard and a great victory over Bernard Lagat for Manzano. He

:59:52. > :59:57.has been threatening to do that on the European stage and here's his

:59:57. > :00:04.chance and a good time, three minutes and 51 seconds, will do the

:00:04. > :00:14.official time in a minute. It is about 3.51. Choge faded away,

:00:14. > :00:15.

:00:15. > :00:25.Bernard Lagat in second place, Bernard Lagat is downstairs talking

:00:25. > :00:26.

:00:26. > :00:31.front of a British crowd. Tell us about this race and how it comes

:00:31. > :00:35.into your preparations for going forward? This is a good race for

:00:35. > :00:40.preparation for 5,000m heading into Daegu. I wanted to come here and

:00:40. > :00:44.have some fun, I didn't expect so much, because I knew I just wanted

:00:45. > :00:51.a have fun and run a relaxed race, which I did. I was happy that

:00:51. > :00:56.Baddeley second, if I wanted to win... But second is not too bad.

:00:56. > :01:02.you have made it pretty clear it is 5,000m all the way this year, is

:01:02. > :01:08.that right? Yes, I am going to be concentrating on the 5,000m. And on

:01:08. > :01:12.that particular topic, and by a far's performance from a British

:01:12. > :01:17.perspective has obviously been exceptional -- Mo Farah's

:01:17. > :01:22.performance. What is your take on that? He is a great athlete, it is

:01:22. > :01:25.not only in the United States, it is everywhere. All over the world.

:01:26. > :01:31.He is a competitor, he is the guy that makes us wake up in the

:01:31. > :01:34.morning and think, I have to work hard today. When you think about

:01:34. > :01:38.that race, you think about Mo Farah and the athlete that could be the

:01:38. > :01:46.winners. He is in good shape that everybody knows that, I know that.

:01:46. > :01:56.So we are all getting ready, so when we meet in Daegu, we will have

:01:56. > :02:00.

:02:00. > :02:10.that confrontation. We can't wait the great tradition of this event,

:02:10. > :02:10.

:02:10. > :02:14.a real feature. William Carr, the grandson of the man whose race of -

:02:14. > :02:17.- he the race is named after. This will be a proud moment for Manzano,

:02:17. > :02:26.a huge list of names stretching back through history.

:02:26. > :02:28.Congratulations. It was a good race as well, it is always good to see a

:02:28. > :02:37.good competitive race like that. Those three men had it between

:02:37. > :02:42.themselves. Manzano getting the verdict ahead of Bernard Lagat.

:02:42. > :02:45.JOHN INVERDALE: Perhaps worth saying that Emsley Carr was the

:02:45. > :02:49.editor of the News Of The World and it was his idea to have this race

:02:49. > :02:54.and it will be the first year that it would be reported in the News Of

:02:55. > :03:01.The World. Anyway, we have talked about Andrew Baggaley, Brendan was

:03:01. > :03:04.saying it was a disappointing run - - Andrew Baggaley. Of what about

:03:04. > :03:09.Phillips Idowu will in the triple jump? I think that has surprised

:03:09. > :03:13.everybody, for him to our only finished third. It is one of these

:03:13. > :03:17.things again, we talk about getting into the groove. What has surprised

:03:17. > :03:22.me is that Phillips actually missed the trials so he could focus here

:03:22. > :03:26.and really jump well, so he will be really disappointed. But remember,

:03:26. > :03:29.he is a world champion, he knows how to prepare for these big

:03:29. > :03:34.competition that I think he is more than capable of turning around this

:03:34. > :03:38.performance. I think I have to agree with that. He will be

:03:38. > :03:41.disappointed that he didn't entertain the crowd here in London.

:03:41. > :03:47.That will be the only disappointment. Phillips is very

:03:47. > :03:51.confident that that think he will still go to Daegu can do very well.

:03:51. > :03:56.-- and I think. A you could see that he was up for it today, he was

:03:56. > :04:03.cock of the war can he wanted to show that and it didn't happen. --

:04:03. > :04:07.cock of the walk. He has to be sharp in Daegu at all times because

:04:07. > :04:12.anyone can sneak through. It was a brilliant winning jump. He has got

:04:12. > :04:16.to keep sharp. You can see the finalist for the women's 100m,

:04:16. > :04:26.which takes place in a few minutes' time. Here is what happened in the

:04:26. > :04:29.

:04:29. > :04:35.start, Kelly-Ann Baptiste alongside have. Kelly-Ann Baptiste forging

:04:35. > :04:45.ahead at the moment. Fraser-Pryce easing down, but she was never on

:04:45. > :04:47.

:04:47. > :04:50.terms with Baptiste. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is certainly not that

:04:50. > :04:54.may sort of form she wants to be. She may just say she was qualifying

:04:54. > :04:58.and that may be true, but she needs to find something special where the

:04:58. > :05:06.final later on if she is the head off to Daegu with something she can

:05:06. > :05:10.gain some confidence from -- if she is to head off too.

:05:10. > :05:19.Carmelita Jeter got an absolute fly up. Anderson going quite well.

:05:19. > :05:25.Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie is lagging behind. Carmelita Jeter flying. 11

:05:25. > :05:31.seconds dead. Her pick up after 50m was absolutely wonderful. That was

:05:31. > :05:41.with a headwind of one metre per second. Carmelita Jeter in very

:05:41. > :06:04.

:06:04. > :06:10.cracking final, it should be. Here lane eight. The first athlete that

:06:10. > :06:14.we will see is one of five in this race who rank in the top 10 in the

:06:14. > :06:19.world this year. Anderson, US collegiate champion a couple of

:06:19. > :06:28.years ago. Finished 4th in the burning of Diamond League so she

:06:28. > :06:33.has run their this company a few times before. -- Birmingham.

:06:33. > :06:42.Schillionie Calvert, another Jamaican making strides. Fraser-

:06:42. > :06:47.Pryce, Olympic champion again 2008. She goes to Daegu as defending

:06:47. > :06:56.champion. And she will be challenged by Carmelita Jeter. The

:06:56. > :06:59.fastest in the world this here. And the second fastest in history.

:06:59. > :07:09.Kelly Ann Baptiste looked pretty good in the heats, but can she go

:07:09. > :07:10.

:07:10. > :07:20.faster? She may have to. And this is some talent, blessing

:07:20. > :07:25.

:07:25. > :07:35.the sprints. Bailey, another Jamaican. Gold medallist in the

:07:35. > :07:35.

:07:35. > :07:45.Olympics as part of the relay team. And the Bulgarian has run under 11

:07:45. > :07:50.

:07:50. > :07:56.seconds this year. But can anybody semi-final, but she was well beaten

:07:56. > :08:01.on that occasion by Kelly-Ann Baptiste. Certainly Fraser-Pryce is

:08:01. > :08:06.on the comeback trail. She is so strong on the second half of the

:08:06. > :08:16.races. But Carmelita Jeter looked untouchable then that first race.

:08:16. > :08:22.

:08:23. > :08:28.Right in the centre, super-smooth, Fraser-Pryce going well, --

:08:28. > :08:35.Carmelita Jeter. Carmelita Jeter is going to get it. Kelly-Ann Baptiste

:08:35. > :08:40.in second. Fraser-Pryce in third. 10.93. Another head wind to contend

:08:40. > :08:50.with, so certainly, we know on paper and good practice, she can go

:08:50. > :08:56.faster. -- in practice. But 10.93 is really moving and I suspect that

:08:56. > :09:01.Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce had one of her best races of the year, staying

:09:01. > :09:05.in contention. But this is the athlete that everybody will have to

:09:05. > :09:11.beat in Daegu, not forgetting Veronica Campbell-Brown, another

:09:11. > :09:21.great Jamaican who is not here. But Carmelita Jeter is number one at

:09:21. > :09:22.

:09:22. > :09:25.eight women under 10 seconds this year but not one has done it into a

:09:25. > :09:31.headwind, so that gives you an idea of how good a performance there

:09:31. > :09:35.says. Bit of a return to form for Fraser-Pryce, but it is really in

:09:35. > :09:39.the last 30 metres where they forged ahead. The strength that

:09:39. > :09:44.Carmelita Jeter has. Baptiste probably got out of the blocks

:09:44. > :09:51.better. Always a good starter, but look at Carmelita Jeter, forges

:09:51. > :09:57.ahead. Baptiste quite can't hold on. This is top-class sprinting and

:09:57. > :10:00.these two, I go call it was handing the medals around their neck -- I

:10:00. > :10:03.know Colin was handing the medals around their neck, there is a lot

:10:03. > :10:09.of running to be done, but she would struggle to bet against this

:10:09. > :10:15.lady taking the gold medal. She must be very pleased. She is with

:10:15. > :10:20.fell. I think there will be a big smile on your face, it is a good

:10:20. > :10:23.day's work. It is. We are trying to work off some execution things. I

:10:23. > :10:28.don't think I did what I was supposed to do in that final and I

:10:28. > :10:33.am sure I about to here about it, but I get to go home, look at this

:10:33. > :10:38.race, try and fix some things. The World Championships will be a great

:10:38. > :10:42.run, Baptiste is running well, Fraser-Pryce is running well, so I

:10:42. > :10:47.have to fix a couple of things. said recently about not being

:10:47. > :10:52.complacent. Because of that fact, you have to have your game face on.

:10:52. > :10:59.Are prepared at all times. I am prepared at all times. If you are

:10:59. > :11:05.in the final, you cannot sleep on anybody. So the plan is to go home

:11:05. > :11:08.for a little while before heading back to Daegu? I will go up two

:11:08. > :11:13.Daegu got the 17th, so I will go home and be under by coach will

:11:13. > :11:22.take a couple of days to look at things. -- me and my coach. We wish

:11:22. > :11:27.you well. Thank you, goodbye. Carmelita Jeter confirmed as the

:11:27. > :11:32.winner. Kelly-Ann Baptiste in contention, and both into a

:11:32. > :11:42.headwind. The first time anyone has done under 11 seconds in those

:11:42. > :11:46.

:11:46. > :11:52.distance race to come, added features Helen Clitheroe. 37 years

:11:52. > :11:57.old, but in the form of her life -- and it features. And the great

:11:57. > :11:58.thing about Helen Clitheroe in she thing about Helen Clitheroe in she

:11:58. > :11:59.needs the qualifying mark for the needs the qualifying mark for the

:11:59. > :12:02.World Championships in Daegu, so in World Championships in Daegu, so in

:12:02. > :12:10.many ways, this is how last throw of the dice, but she has been here

:12:10. > :12:16.You are a woman on a mission this weekend. Tell me the game plan and

:12:16. > :12:20.how it came to pass. Yes, I suppose I am a woman on a mission, because

:12:20. > :12:26.it is the last chance in terms of the World Championships. I made the

:12:26. > :12:31.decision to not do the trials, I got permission to miss it after

:12:31. > :12:38.running the five K at the European Cup, thinking this would be a

:12:38. > :12:42.better opportunity to run fast. So I have been out getting ready for

:12:42. > :12:48.three weeks, and hopefully it has the same positive impact it has on

:12:48. > :12:55.my performance as it did last time, when I came back and ran that

:12:55. > :12:59.Manchester road race and run very well. I'm hoping to run faster on

:12:59. > :13:03.Saturday. Everything has gone well in training. I am just hoping that

:13:03. > :13:11.the weather is great. I feel like I admin shape, to hit the right

:13:11. > :13:18.standard. -- I am in shape. So the bottom line is get that tired or it

:13:18. > :13:22.is failure in your eyes? Yes, in terms of wanting to go to the world

:13:22. > :13:27.championship, but I also want to run a time for next year for the

:13:27. > :13:36.Olympics, so that is my main focus. I am not thinking past the race,

:13:36. > :13:39.really, I just need to do that, and what is next after that.

:13:39. > :13:43.There is Helen Clitheroe in how wide, knee-length stockings. If we

:13:43. > :13:48.are going to talk middle-distance, we obviously talked to Brendan

:13:48. > :13:53.Foster. From our point of view, she has the screens to look at, at the

:13:53. > :13:58.time has to look at, she knows what she has to do, what sort the

:13:58. > :14:02.tactics do you expect? BRENDAN FOSTER: I am delighted she says she

:14:02. > :14:09.is ready to do it, because we don't have someone representing nurse in

:14:09. > :14:14.the 5,000m. -- us. She ran a great race in Manchester, as she said,

:14:14. > :14:18.and it would be great to see her qualifying here in the 5,000m. All

:14:18. > :14:24.she has got to do is clock up the lap times, stay in contention. She

:14:24. > :14:28.is so experienced. When you get to this stage of a career, she wants

:14:28. > :14:32.to be at the World Championships and the Olympics. It is wonderful

:14:32. > :14:39.to see the appetite she has for it. It is a valid point, because we

:14:39. > :14:46.were talking about Merlene Ottey at 51. At 37, to be competing at this

:14:46. > :14:56.level, it is fantastic -- to be competing. A I can't remember!

:14:56. > :15:00.

:15:01. > :15:05.come on. But Steve Cram will talk Merlene Ottey last night, she was

:15:05. > :15:11.up later looking at how they could maybe still improve, I was thinking

:15:11. > :15:14.about going to bed. This is a field that has been set up to provide a

:15:14. > :15:23.good racing environment. It is not just running against the clock. The

:15:23. > :15:33.Ethiopian us, to name she might recognise -- Ethiopians. Two names

:15:33. > :15:47.

:15:47. > :15:56.you might recognise. Opportunities Davila or from the United States

:15:56. > :16:00.there. Waganesh Mekasha, one of a bunch of very talented Ethiopians.

:16:00. > :16:07.Helen Clitheroe knows the pace will be set at around the 15 minute mark.

:16:07. > :16:16.15 minutes and 14 seconds, required, she has to run the A-Standard, no

:16:16. > :16:21.chance of a B-Standard. Grace Momanyi or, 4th in Berlin at the

:16:21. > :16:25.longer distance. Jennifer Rhines getting back into some sort of good

:16:25. > :16:30.form, Lauren Fleshman as well. These are all athletes who are

:16:30. > :16:34.going to be in and around Helen Clitheroe and give her a good

:16:34. > :16:39.racing environment which I think is what you need, you can't beat... I

:16:39. > :16:43.was talking to Chris Thompson early on, about his attempts to get a

:16:43. > :16:49.qualifying in the men's 5,000 metres, as he said he got caught by

:16:49. > :16:52.the early pace. He got left in no man's land a little bit. Enough

:16:52. > :17:02.athletes around Helen Clitheroe we hope running at their pace, running

:17:02. > :17:05.at this 15 minute pace that she can just work off. 72 second laps, it

:17:05. > :17:10.sounds all right but it is a case of going out and doing it. The have

:17:10. > :17:14.got to know where you are against that time. Interesting that Chris

:17:14. > :17:17.Thompson the European silver medallist, last year. He was in

:17:17. > :17:22.Crystal Palace last night tried to achieve a standard for the 5,000

:17:22. > :17:27.metres, he was not able to do that and here, Helen Clitheroe, European

:17:27. > :17:30.indoor gold medal and a last chance saloon for Helen, tried to qualify

:17:30. > :17:33.in the 5,000 metres for the World Championships. You have got to

:17:33. > :17:41.apply yourself to the right event, this just shows you that. She has

:17:41. > :17:51.been training and it is working well for her where she has been

:17:51. > :18:01.

:18:01. > :18:07.training. Let's see how this one high jump, Tom Parsons clear at

:18:07. > :18:13.there, that is the B-Standard. Martyn Bernard, struggling though.

:18:13. > :18:18.His third and final attempt at 2.28, he went out there. He will have to

:18:18. > :18:22.sweat on the selectors decision and any part moved up to 2.31 metres,

:18:22. > :18:26.that would be the B-Standard that he needed. Tom Parsons was not able

:18:26. > :18:30.to get that have unfortunately. That would have been an outdoor

:18:30. > :18:39.personal best for Tom Parsons but he didn't quite make it but he is

:18:39. > :18:44.on the play never less to Daegu. Here's our currently a, Jesse

:18:44. > :18:49.Williams. This was his first attempt at 2.34 metres. And he went

:18:49. > :18:54.right over it. Outstanding from the American No. 1. In the shot put, we

:18:54. > :19:03.are in the third round, this is Bari Adams, the Olympic and world

:19:03. > :19:13.and Commonwealth champion. -- Valerie Adams. She is up against a

:19:13. > :19:34.

:19:34. > :19:44.that last throw. Just to bring you completely up-to-date on the men's

:19:44. > :19:48.high jump, this is the Russian, Andrei sell-off. -- Andrey Silnov.

:19:48. > :19:52.That is very impressive from the Olympic champion. Back with the

:19:52. > :20:02.women's 5,000, excellent pacemaking by Kaila McKnight night of

:20:02. > :20:05.Australia. Nice and steady so far, Helen Clitheroe happy to run in the

:20:05. > :20:12.group there. Getting a bit spread out now. They are starting to

:20:12. > :20:16.settle down. This is absolutely perfect, coming on really well. How

:20:16. > :20:19.determined is Helen Clitheroe to do the qualifying standard? She did

:20:20. > :20:27.not want to drift to the very back, she wants to drift closer, she

:20:27. > :20:33.knows as the laps take off, she will be in an area where she is

:20:33. > :20:37.confident. She was not able to run as well at as she can on the roads

:20:37. > :20:43.for the 10,000 metres. Do you think it was a good choice this year to

:20:43. > :20:47.go at the 10,000? I have spoken to Helen about it and it was a hot

:20:47. > :20:51.night in Oslo when she tried to run it, not a great experience and you

:20:51. > :21:01.do not want to have too many bad experiences of 10,000 metres on the

:21:01. > :21:06.track, do you? You don't want to run a bad 10,000 metres, if you do

:21:06. > :21:14.it on the track, it leaves a scarf. You can do it on the road. But the

:21:14. > :21:21.only do it when you are in your very best shape because 25 laps

:21:21. > :21:27.round the track is a very tough mental task. A good pace being set

:21:27. > :21:37.in this 5,000 metres. They are starting to bunch up but Helen

:21:37. > :21:41.

:21:41. > :21:48.Clitheroe looked comfortable at in the men's high-jump. Interesting

:21:48. > :21:57.situation, this is Andrey Silnov. He came to Crystal Palace in 2008,

:21:57. > :22:02.to put 36 metres, he has got it! He jumped 2.38 metres and then kicked

:22:02. > :22:12.the other guy off and selected who went on to win. At the moment he is

:22:12. > :22:16.

:22:16. > :22:26.Genet Yalew just behind the pacemaker. A bit of a gap there,

:22:26. > :22:27.

:22:27. > :22:32.the Ethiopian in second place. And Waganesh Mekasha and Jessica

:22:32. > :22:37.Augusto up there as well. And the more laps they can get up at this

:22:37. > :22:44.pace, they are ahead of schedule. The time required for Helen

:22:44. > :22:48.Clitheroe is actually 15.14, so she is well under that and it is good

:22:48. > :22:58.that she is aiming at a 50 minute pace. Just over six minutes for the

:22:58. > :23:03.

:23:03. > :23:13.place, she is very solid at this pace. She qualified by running the

:23:13. > :23:13.

:23:13. > :23:22.London Marathon, she was eight. We have seen her win at the Great

:23:22. > :23:32.North Run, she is the athlete in the red vest on the inside, but you

:23:32. > :23:32.

:23:32. > :23:39.would not want to run a marathon in Daegu. It is tough out there. Helen

:23:39. > :23:44.Clitheroe is taking closer audit of the other runners. The world leader,

:23:44. > :23:54.Jesse Williams, his first attempt at 2.36 metres. He has not got it.

:23:54. > :24:03.

:24:03. > :24:09.Andrey Silnov still in the lead at behind her, and then steps off.

:24:09. > :24:18.Look at Jessica Augusto, she really wants to push on. Genet Yalew, not

:24:18. > :24:23.wanted to take on the athlete at her side. You have got six laps at

:24:23. > :24:28.the right pace, you do not want to throw it away. You do not want to

:24:28. > :24:31.have three or four slow laps in the middle of the race. That is exactly

:24:31. > :24:36.what Jessica Augusto decided. No point coming to Crystal Palace just

:24:36. > :24:41.to run a steady race, she wants to run a good one with a fast time,

:24:41. > :24:47.and wants to know where she is with her training towards Daegu. She

:24:47. > :24:50.realised that the Ethiopian athlete was not wanted to press it on so

:24:50. > :24:54.she has decided to take it on herself. She is confident and

:24:54. > :25:04.strong enough to do it and this is good news for Helen Clitheroe, the

:25:04. > :25:04.

:25:04. > :25:13.pace is now settling down. Other runners are saying, "you have a go".

:25:13. > :25:17.Amy Hastings of the United States movie up for a second, but it looks

:25:17. > :25:23.like Grace Momanyi moving up as well. But Helen Clitheroe looking

:25:23. > :25:33.comfortable still. A 44 second lap and they need to let it not a drop

:25:33. > :25:33.

:25:33. > :25:39.too much. She has allowed the others to come round. A big group

:25:39. > :25:46.there. Helen Clitheroe right in there, Grace Momanyi, you can tell

:25:46. > :25:49.it is slowing. Someone will have to push it on an even if it is Helen,

:25:49. > :25:57.you have got to get the time. She will not have another chance. Five

:25:57. > :26:05.seconds slower, that kilometre. Helen Clitheroe beat Grace Momanyi

:26:05. > :26:10.in the great Manchester run. Helen needs to run with confidence on the

:26:10. > :26:13.track that we have seen her use on the roads. I know how good she is

:26:13. > :26:18.over 10,000 metres on the roads, whenever she can run well over

:26:18. > :26:22.5,000 metres on the roads, but now she is to translate it. These are

:26:22. > :26:31.good athletes but not great athletes, not be top athletes at

:26:31. > :26:34.the world of 5,000 metres, and Helen is running the long way round.

:26:34. > :26:37.Jessica Augusto tries to get round the inside of the track but she

:26:37. > :26:40.knows she has put herself in trouble, she was leaning

:26:40. > :26:44.comfortably and now she has got athletes all around her and she is

:26:44. > :26:50.not happy with it. Coming into the been issued straight, they looked

:26:50. > :26:54.down and for somebody like Helen Clitheroe who has spent a lot of

:26:54. > :27:04.her career running miles and 1,500 metres, but now she knows how she

:27:04. > :27:26.

:27:26. > :27:31.attempt at 2.38 metres. The reality is this is his second attempt, he

:27:31. > :27:41.will only have two at this height. Assuming he does not clear at this

:27:41. > :27:55.

:27:55. > :28:02.5,000 metres race now, coming round with Grace Momanyi picking up the

:28:02. > :28:05.pace. If Helen Clitheroe can stay with the group and it marked a bit

:28:06. > :28:09.of a challenge on the last lap or at least pick up the pace, things

:28:09. > :28:17.started to look good for Helen Clitheroe, she needs to stay in

:28:17. > :28:21.contact. Grace Momanyi leading them and Helen Clitheroe is in about six

:28:21. > :28:25.the place. I think she has got to be gaining in confidence now. Two

:28:25. > :28:28.things happening, one, she knows that the time is good, but she

:28:28. > :28:32.might also start to think about racing this now. Beating some of

:28:32. > :28:40.these athletes. This is moving into her territory. She is still in

:28:40. > :28:44.contact. Certainly moving into her territory. Less than three laps to

:28:44. > :28:50.go, she has been here many times in the past and the point is, can she

:28:50. > :28:56.win the race? You have got to plan to win the race like this, you

:28:56. > :29:01.cannot come by accident. She knows that she is on 12 minutes and 10

:29:01. > :29:11.seconds for 4,000 metres. This is well within her compass now. The

:29:11. > :29:13.

:29:14. > :29:17.last 1,000 metres, Helen Clitheroe sight. Lot of athletes around her,

:29:17. > :29:20.she is happy in that place, she has got a good strong finish but let's

:29:21. > :29:25.hope she has got the confidence to finish. A few athletes heading for

:29:25. > :29:30.personal best. Desiree Davila looking strong as well and Helen

:29:30. > :29:40.Clitheroe going with that little move that was made. Jessica Augusto

:29:40. > :29:40.

:29:40. > :29:43.struggling a bit now. And at Lauren Fleshman in the lead. Jessica

:29:43. > :29:48.Augusto getting onto the back of the group but at this point,

:29:48. > :29:52.anybody's race, Brenda. A crucial point of the race, for Helen

:29:52. > :29:55.Clitheroe. We know she can be competitive over the last lap. When

:29:55. > :30:00.the bell sounds, it will bring her to live because she knows what to

:30:00. > :30:05.do but they are stretching here. Helen Clitheroe needs to stay on

:30:05. > :30:08.the back of that group. She has got a good finish, she just needs to

:30:08. > :30:13.wind herself up for that. She can do the qualifying time and that

:30:13. > :30:17.would send her off to Daegu with a chance of running well in the World

:30:17. > :30:23.Championships. At this stage of her career, this is absolutely what she

:30:23. > :30:29.wants. Genet Yalew, just a few too many yards for a gap. She needs to

:30:29. > :30:33.take things closely in order. When it comes to the bell, somebody will

:30:33. > :30:43.rarely open it up. She is working hard to stay at the front of that

:30:43. > :30:43.

:30:43. > :30:46.group. No doubt about the winner. Bell rings. She will need to run 73

:30:46. > :30:50.seconds to get a qualification, that is something she should be

:30:50. > :30:54.well capable of doing. Lauren Fleshman is away now and striking

:30:54. > :30:58.and really running strongly. Helen Clitheroe can really do that. She

:30:58. > :31:08.needs to be competitive here. She has done it hundreds of times, and

:31:08. > :31:12.

:31:12. > :31:17.she does it on a regular basis in from Lauren Fleshman of the United

:31:17. > :31:25.States. She will be the win and has taken 30, 40 yards out of the rest

:31:25. > :31:30.of the field -- at the winner. Helen Clitheroe is coming. At this

:31:30. > :31:36.search is going to bring how well under the qualifying time -- at

:31:36. > :31:41.this search. This is the pay she can deliver. Great performance from

:31:41. > :31:47.the American, she is going to win it, our just outside 15 minutes.

:31:47. > :31:51.The Helen Clitheroe comes in for second place. She books her ticket

:31:51. > :31:56.for the World Championships -- Helen Clitheroe. Well inside the

:31:56. > :32:04.standard. She will have enjoyed the last 200m, I don't know about the

:32:04. > :32:09.previous 12 laps. You have to say well done for combat at the age of

:32:09. > :32:18.37 -- you have to say well done, at the age of 37. Helen Clitheroe will

:32:18. > :32:25.be delighted. Her previous best was 15.29. The good news is that go she

:32:25. > :32:30.is getting older, she is getting better. Lauren Fleshman running

:32:30. > :32:36.strongly into the finishing straight. Bad but Helen Clitheroe

:32:36. > :32:41.the night all-time fastest, behind Paula Radcliffe -- but that puts.

:32:41. > :32:46.She will tell us after the race, she will say she can run at under

:32:46. > :32:52.15 minutes than that will occupy her for another year. Running like

:32:52. > :32:57.a sprinter. Ahead of Grace Momanyi, we knew she could beat her. Helen

:32:57. > :33:04.Clitheroe really running well, absolutely delighted. She improves

:33:04. > :33:10.with age. She is downstairs. A very happy Helen Clitheroe. You

:33:10. > :33:17.saw that on the board, a personal best. UK Manchu delivered what you

:33:17. > :33:24.had two false start a yes, there was a lot of pressure. A -- UK man

:33:24. > :33:28.due delivered what you had to. was what I needed, to be pushed,

:33:28. > :33:36.not just watching they clock all the time. I am delighted, really

:33:36. > :33:42.please do. It was nice to be able to pick it up -- really pleased.

:33:42. > :33:46.know the altitude training you did still due in good stead for

:33:47. > :33:53.Manchester, it has happened again here false start it -- as did you

:33:54. > :33:58.in good stead, it has happened here again. Yes, I'm going again. I have

:33:58. > :34:00.had back-to-back altitude from November, so it has been a massive

:34:00. > :34:05.change and I am absolutely delighted I have had this

:34:05. > :34:10.opportunity, to go on these camps. I could not afford it without the

:34:10. > :34:15.support of the altitude programme, so I am just thrilled that I have

:34:15. > :34:19.that opportunity and I can run in races I never believed I could run

:34:19. > :34:26.at this point of my career. It is wonderful to see and greater to

:34:26. > :34:29.share it with you, all the very best.

:34:29. > :34:39.Hello there is one of a handful of the British athletes who have

:34:39. > :34:49.grasped at the chance to get in the team this weekend -- Helen. Second

:34:49. > :34:51.

:34:51. > :34:57.place behind a good performance by the bad and Stephane Port San

:34:57. > :35:04.leading the challenge in the hurdles. Bash for the men and

:35:04. > :35:14.Tiffany Ofili-Porter for staff -- at all stop to Jesse Williams with

:35:14. > :35:19.

:35:19. > :35:26.wrong place. That means the world No. 1 loses to the Russian, the

:35:26. > :35:36.Olympic champion, Andre Solo -- I Andriy Silnov, who has put the bar

:35:36. > :35:38.

:35:38. > :35:45.performance from the Olympic champion. I wonder if the selectors

:35:45. > :35:55.will do as they did in 2008, the Russian selectors, and reversed the

:35:55. > :36:04.

:36:04. > :36:14.decision and take Andriy Silnov to show you the result there. There

:36:14. > :36:14.

:36:14. > :36:19.was no improvement. That third- round throw by Valerie Adams...

:36:19. > :36:23.Disappointing as the competition. Kleinert in third, are Ostapchuk in

:36:23. > :36:26.second. Before we talk about the final of

:36:26. > :36:31.the women's high hurdles, Helen Clitheroe. To beat your personal

:36:31. > :36:35.best by 20 seconds, knowing that you had to run that quick to get to

:36:35. > :36:39.the World Championships, that is a fantastic achievement. It was

:36:39. > :36:45.fantastic and it sums up her whole year. Everything she turns her hand

:36:45. > :36:50.to, she does so well. She is knocking out personal bests Black

:36:50. > :36:54.Friday and centre. It is brilliant. -- the left of right and a centre.

:36:54. > :37:02.And ages just the number four stopped I was wondering the same

:37:02. > :37:07.think, you for for... -- and age is just a number. I was thinking as

:37:07. > :37:11.same thing. You could be going as well. 11 years ago, where does it

:37:11. > :37:17.go? We have Sally Pearson over there, you would think she is

:37:18. > :37:22.favourite to win. A absolutely, or a lady at the top of our game. Her

:37:22. > :37:27.hurdling is sublime. You would be foolish to bet against it. There is

:37:27. > :37:31.not much of hair, is there? You always think about this being a

:37:31. > :37:40.power events -- of her. The very few of the athletes are what you

:37:40. > :37:46.would call solid. They are very light of for it. They used

:37:46. > :37:53.technique very well. -- a football. They are very quick and technically

:37:53. > :37:58.efficient. And Ofili-Porter? What do you think about her now and what

:37:58. > :38:03.she might achieve in a month's time. But this is her against her major

:38:03. > :38:07.rivals, this is where she should be in Daegu. As far as I am concerned,

:38:07. > :38:15.wherever she fishes here is a good sounding board for where she will

:38:15. > :38:22.finish in Daegu -- finishes here. She would not get a look-in in the

:38:22. > :38:26.US, there are some fears girls. But she is doing brilliantly. -- BS.

:38:26. > :38:30.She is British and she is running in a British vest come back and she

:38:30. > :38:36.will be in a few weeks' time. Here she is running against some of the

:38:36. > :38:46.best in the world. It is a great line-up. Nikkita

:38:46. > :39:01.

:39:01. > :39:05.Holder goes inside in lane one for Diamond League has produced some

:39:05. > :39:11.fascinating results, but it has been dominated by Sally Pearson.

:39:11. > :39:18.Nikkita Holder, glad to be in the final. 12.91, a lifetime best.

:39:18. > :39:28.Yvette Lewis. The end see double a triple jump champion in 2006, but

:39:28. > :39:34.

:39:34. > :39:41.she has converted to hurdles -- end Sally Pearson just get better and

:39:41. > :39:44.better. She is only 24. -- just gets. Red hot favourite for the

:39:44. > :39:48.world title. Danielle Carruthers looked quite

:39:48. > :39:56.impressive in her heat, but she was two-tenths of a second behind Sally

:39:56. > :40:00.Pearson. Tiffany Ofili-Porter, she broke the

:40:00. > :40:07.British record in Monaco at 12.6 seconds. She is ranked 5th in the

:40:07. > :40:12.world this year. Phylicia George of Canada. Second

:40:12. > :40:22.Canadian in this final. 12. The 76 her lifetime best, which she

:40:22. > :40:31.

:40:31. > :40:35.achieved this season -- well 0.76. Pearson right in the middle. But

:40:35. > :40:43.only if she a good technician, as the guys were saying that, it is

:40:43. > :40:49.what she does in between the hurdles, and a terrific sprinter.

:40:49. > :40:52.11.14 seconds for the 100m is her best. When she is on the hurdles,

:40:52. > :41:02.absolutely superb in terms of technique and a good starter as

:41:02. > :41:10.

:41:10. > :41:14.solidifying his Yvette Lewis. But Sally Pearson is coming away --

:41:14. > :41:22.absolutely flying is Yvette Lewis. Sally Pearson get said. Danielle

:41:22. > :41:30.Carruthers beaten once again -- gets it. A headwind once more. Not

:41:30. > :41:38.as fast there she ran in how heat once -- and earlier -- not as fast

:41:38. > :41:44.as she ran in her in heat earlier. Ofili-Porter well beaten on this

:41:44. > :41:48.occasion for start Sally Pearson, unbeaten in a major competition so

:41:48. > :41:55.far -- on this occasion. Sally Pearson, unbeaten in major

:41:55. > :41:59.competitions so far this year. had the pleasure this morning of

:41:59. > :42:03.Nadine Sally Peers and's coach. She has been with Sally since she was a

:42:03. > :42:10.young athlete -- Sally Pearson's. It is great when you see somebody

:42:10. > :42:14.come to prominence two has stayed with the same coach. Wonderful

:42:14. > :42:20.technique she has got such good flat speed as well -- wonderful

:42:20. > :42:25.technique. And she is a great competitor. If you throw all of

:42:25. > :42:29.those things together, that is what you are producing. Colin, can you

:42:29. > :42:34.see anybody beating her in the World Championships? It not at this

:42:34. > :42:39.moment in time. She is doing everything that is needed to be a

:42:39. > :42:46.great hurdler -- not that this time. She has got great speed, great

:42:46. > :42:49.technique, a great power and she hits the floor. Watch her trailing

:42:49. > :42:53.leg skimming over the barriers and getting down to the floor very

:42:53. > :42:58.quickly and she is into her running. Eyes are always focused on the

:42:58. > :43:02.barrier in front. She works every single one of those barriers. This

:43:02. > :43:09.is where all the months of hard conditioning, allowing your body to

:43:09. > :43:14.get really ready to attack these barriers... And a brilliant leg

:43:14. > :43:18.speed, and you get an athlete like Sally Pearson. She is, in my

:43:18. > :43:24.opinion, the world leader and should be the world champion very

:43:24. > :43:25.soon. She is chatting with Phil soon. She is chatting with Phil

:43:25. > :43:28.Jones. Another accomplished Jones. Another accomplished

:43:28. > :43:34.performance. You are in the form of your life, it seems, and this shows

:43:34. > :43:37.it again. Yes, it has been a pretty fantastic season. I am pretty

:43:37. > :43:42.disappointed with the time in the final, I could have gone faster,

:43:42. > :43:47.but it wasn't meant to be. The crowd are so fantastic, it is good

:43:47. > :43:50.to have a little bit of support and I am happy to be here, winning my

:43:50. > :43:55.races before the World Championships. It is a big

:43:55. > :43:59.confidence boost. When you watch it back on the screen, I used seen

:43:59. > :44:04.everything you want to see right now? Technically, I am getting

:44:04. > :44:10.better. The last few hurdles need to be cleaner, but I came here with

:44:10. > :44:14.a bit of fatigue and it was a long time between the heats and the

:44:14. > :44:19.final. It would be like that at the World Championships, it will be

:44:19. > :44:22.short time distances between each wants. We wish you well, it is

:44:22. > :44:32.great to see such wonderful form going into the World Championships.

:44:32. > :44:42.

:44:42. > :44:46.But thank you very much. -- thank have -- on how it was then. Not a

:44:46. > :44:49.disgrace for Ofili-Porter, who is with Phil Jones. There is a big

:44:49. > :44:54.smile on her face, yet again you have delivered a fantastic

:44:54. > :44:59.performance for the home crowd and you got a wonderful reception for

:44:59. > :45:05.start the crowd was amazing, I was really wonderful. There she got a

:45:05. > :45:10.wonderful reception. The crowd were amazing. I have to get ready for

:45:10. > :45:15.Daegu, that is where it matters. seems that race after race, you are

:45:15. > :45:18.in the mix. Absolutely, I am a new athlete from last year. I am

:45:18. > :45:24.confident in my abilities and I hope to improve. Onwards and

:45:24. > :45:28.upwards, how excited are you to be going to Daegu, representing

:45:28. > :45:32.Britain outdoors for the first time? I am so excited, I just hope

:45:32. > :45:42.I can make G be very proud. thank you for talking to us. --

:45:42. > :45:45.

:45:45. > :45:48.play here at Crystal Palace, let's run up what has happened today. The

:45:48. > :45:58.afternoon began with a tremendous performance from Lisa Dobriskey in

:45:58. > :46:00.

:46:00. > :46:05.the 1,500 metres and she is really on the up Azriel to -- as we head

:46:05. > :46:08.towards the World Championships. A Christian Taylor trounces Phillips

:46:08. > :46:12.Idowu Indian triple-jump. Sanya Richards-Ross also in good

:46:12. > :46:17.form as she heads to Korea but out of picture almost, Christine

:46:17. > :46:20.Ohuruogu, a bitterly disappointing run for our defending Olympic

:46:20. > :46:30.champion. Carmelita Jeter is very much the

:46:30. > :46:35.

:46:35. > :46:39.person to beat in the women's 100 mention, knocking 20 seconds off

:46:39. > :46:43.her personal best to book a place in Korea, Helen Clitheroe in the

:46:43. > :46:48.5,000 metres and she wins the Aviva performance of the day for that

:46:48. > :46:53.magnificent effort. If you are looking overall at the performers

:46:53. > :46:57.of today. We came here with high hopes of Phillips Idowu, he had his

:46:57. > :47:01.hair done specially and the scene was set for him to win the triple

:47:01. > :47:05.jump and he and the rest of the field were just blown away by the

:47:05. > :47:15.American, Christian Taylor, who jumped and are not at -- an

:47:15. > :47:18.

:47:18. > :47:25.incredible 70 metres bronze 68 -- Putting out a great jump which

:47:25. > :47:32.makes you a man to watch, come Daegu. I know my competitors and I

:47:32. > :47:36.have got great experience. I had the mindset that this is the last

:47:36. > :47:44.one before the Worlds. And I wanted to show people that I am a

:47:44. > :47:50.contender. You're going in with the competitive attitude, Teddy Tamgho,

:47:50. > :47:54.who is not in this, you are going out with a lot to gain. Absolutely.

:47:54. > :47:59.You have to stay humble and continue learning. You are never

:47:59. > :48:03.done learning or done competing so I have been working with those

:48:03. > :48:06.great guys and incredible atmosphere. I would like to

:48:06. > :48:10.continue doing this. Congratulations on your performance,

:48:10. > :48:14.and all the best going forward. Thank you.

:48:14. > :48:17.JOHN INVERDALE: And just when we thought it was over for Philips in

:48:17. > :48:27.the roof to win in Korea, when Teddy Tamgho was injured suddenly

:48:27. > :48:31.from nowhere appears Christian Taylor. He has got vast experience,

:48:31. > :48:39.he is collegiate champion. When he goes to the US championship system,

:48:39. > :48:44.it teaches you a lot. It gives you ready for his major championships.

:48:44. > :48:52.Philips will know all about him and I hope he will think if that is his

:48:52. > :48:59.best, I don't want him to do any more. We are looking at the North

:48:59. > :49:03.well relay, but one battle will go down and you are heard it a

:49:03. > :49:08.thousand times, Colin, what is the basis of coming into the area and

:49:08. > :49:15.getting out of the area so the baton still goes from one, to two,

:49:15. > :49:25.and then to three? Do not get distracted by anybody else. If you

:49:25. > :49:32.

:49:32. > :49:36.do that, it will be as simple as round a tall, last night. The last

:49:36. > :49:46.leg should have been Mark Lewis- Francis but now it is Marlon

:49:46. > :50:14.

:50:14. > :50:24.final leg. A few nervous moments. Jason Rogers will leave St Kitts &

:50:24. > :50:34.

:50:34. > :50:37.Fifton will run the third leg and Marlon Devonish the final leg. The

:50:37. > :50:47.Stars and Stripes team were meant to be all Americans, Trell Kimmons,

:50:47. > :51:10.

:51:10. > :51:20.Michael Rodgers, and for GBR two, I Remaldo Rose, and Forsyth on the

:51:20. > :51:34.

:51:34. > :51:41.final leg. And on the outside the really good days of athletics. One

:51:41. > :51:46.evening and one afternoon and a chance to get a glimpse. A really

:51:46. > :51:56.interesting 4x100 because of the British teams. A bit of a mix going

:51:56. > :51:56.

:51:56. > :52:06.on, I am not sure what they would consider the a team to be.

:52:06. > :52:13.

:52:13. > :52:17.Christian Malcolm will want to set started pretty well but outside him

:52:17. > :52:27.going well is Trell Kimmons, he might have expected that, the

:52:27. > :52:27.

:52:27. > :52:33.American is handing over first. A decent handover. GBR two going well.

:52:33. > :52:39.Not much to choose between the two British teams and with Rikki Fifton

:52:39. > :52:45.and James Ellington, going for it. The Stars and Stripes awake and

:52:45. > :52:53.Ellington had a good bend. The Stars and Stripes coming away, GBR

:52:53. > :53:02.will take second place, GBR two. G B T macro stealing the honours as

:53:02. > :53:09.far as the home crowd are concerned. -- GBR two Stephen. I am not sure

:53:09. > :53:14.how good before was that was from the two GB quartet. Marlon Devonish

:53:14. > :53:21.found himself a few metres down before Aikines-Aryeetey got the

:53:21. > :53:25.baton to him. James Ellington and Harry finished off well. Be yes,

:53:25. > :53:31.they did. I am surprised Marlon Devonish was running the final leg.

:53:32. > :53:36.Normally he runs so, so well. Absolutely wonderful. Stars and

:53:36. > :53:39.Stripes are doing well. But no way that Marlon Devonish would make up

:53:39. > :53:46.the deficit on Harry Aikines- Aryeetey, did pretty well at the

:53:47. > :53:51.moment. Rocking and rolling a wee bit. A very good performance indeed

:53:51. > :53:58.from GBR two. That will be a bit of a shot in the arm for them as they

:53:58. > :54:03.prepare for Daegu, beating the first team. 38.6 is a good run.

:54:03. > :54:08.That is about the same, possibly exactly the same as they ran in the

:54:08. > :54:13.European Team Championships. Craig Pickering down the back straight,

:54:13. > :54:23.James Ellington with a good brand, and brought home by Harry Aikines-

:54:23. > :54:25.

:54:25. > :54:30.I am sure you will be GBR won by the time the World Championships

:54:30. > :54:36.come out. It is all about trying out people on different legs.

:54:36. > :54:39.Marlon Devonish on third, looking forward to Daegu. Tough for the

:54:39. > :54:42.selectors on Monday because they have got to make a decision now. We

:54:42. > :54:48.came out here to give what we have got and we will see what how it

:54:48. > :54:55.goes from there. How important is the relay part of it to you?

:54:55. > :55:02.Realistic lake, where we are coming from we have got to do it our all.

:55:02. > :55:12.-- realistically. A lot of time goes into the relay so for us is is

:55:12. > :55:13.

:55:13. > :55:23.one of our priorities, definitely. Well done to you. Hopefully we can

:55:23. > :55:27.

:55:27. > :55:37.go out and do a good performance. in the team, I am pretty sure. They

:55:37. > :55:44.

:55:44. > :55:49.must sort it out. The winning team, You must know it is the first day

:55:49. > :55:53.of the football season in England so final score is coming up shortly.

:55:53. > :55:57.And already under way on BBC Two is the Challenge Cup semi-final

:55:57. > :56:04.the Challenge Cup semi-final between St Helens and Wigan, and

:56:04. > :56:08.then Castleford versus Leeds. Also BBC Three tonight, if you have been

:56:08. > :56:12.watching us and not the rugby, England versus Wales. It is

:56:12. > :56:16.mandatory to get a double-decker bus to say cheerio to British teams

:56:16. > :56:21.where they are going, and there are seven of our top athletes. They sit

:56:21. > :56:28.on the front of the bus, it says optimistically on the front of the

:56:28. > :56:38.bus, next stop - gold, Daegu. As the fireworks going to this guy

:56:38. > :56:42.which is slightly this impressive when it is daylight. Colin and then

:56:42. > :56:46.his have been scribbling away in the past few minutes. This is the

:56:46. > :56:53.definitive a sheet -- Colin and Denise. The definitive list he will

:56:53. > :56:56.win what in Korea. I don't think it would be fair to name names, but Mo

:56:56. > :57:06.Farah, Jessica Ennis and Phillips Idowu. It is not fair to name

:57:06. > :57:08.

:57:08. > :57:17.names...! And Phillips Idowu, I think between Colin and I, team GB

:57:17. > :57:20.might come away with 10 medals. And despite Teddy Tamgho not been there,

:57:20. > :57:29.I think Phillips Idowu has everything to go. The Dai Greene

:57:29. > :57:34.was on the list as well. Jenny Meadows on the list. I think it is

:57:34. > :57:38.a realistic 10 medals. Yes. Charles van Commenee has said seven medals

:57:38. > :57:46.himself. But he plays his cards close to his chest. We have learned

:57:46. > :57:56.that from him, but if they can deliver these 10 medals, they have

:57:56. > :57:59.

:57:59. > :58:03.Goldie Sayers... And Helen Clitheroe, wouldn't it be good if

:58:03. > :58:07.she picks up something? Yes. But people like Polly Bleasdale and

:58:07. > :58:12.people we have not mentioned, she is capable of doing something --

:58:12. > :58:19.Holly Bleasdale. A lot of people in reserve that could shine. Excellent,

:58:19. > :58:24.thank you, guys. We have to say... More fireworks! Crystal Palace is a

:58:24. > :58:30.great venue when it is full. And today to see full houses from two

:58:30. > :58:34.top days of top-level athletics and also from a domestic point of you,
