:01:59. > :02:04.Hello. Welcome to Mount Eden in Auckland. We are here for the

:02:04. > :02:09.climax of the 2012 world triathlon series. What a view and what a year

:02:09. > :02:13.it has been. The Olympics it was the star attraction but most of the

:02:13. > :02:18.world's top triathletes have been going for the world Championship

:02:18. > :02:22.title. We have seen seven races in seven countries leading up to the

:02:22. > :02:27.Grand Final in New Zealand's biggest city. The action has come

:02:27. > :02:31.down to the wire as neither the male or female world champions have

:02:31. > :02:36.been decided. We will tackle the men later, but let's concentrate on

:02:37. > :02:41.the women's. As we found out over the summer, Helen Jenkins cannot

:02:41. > :02:51.defend the title because of injury. So let's meet the women fighting

:02:51. > :02:55.

:02:55. > :03:05.for the Crown. Everything counts in this race. Anything can happen. I

:03:05. > :03:06.

:03:06. > :03:11.will give it my everything. It's will be a battle. Erin Densham has

:03:11. > :03:14.become more consistent this year. The only weakness I see for her is

:03:14. > :03:20.in the swimming. But she can definitely run and put the hammer

:03:20. > :03:25.down when she needs to. Erin Densham is by far the best athlete

:03:25. > :03:29.this year on average. Performances have been outstanding. She has been

:03:30. > :03:34.in the top three all the way through. It would be really nice

:03:34. > :03:42.being world champion. It would be nice to come away with the title. I

:03:42. > :03:48.have had the best year I have ever had. Lisa Norden has also done a

:03:48. > :03:53.great job. Just different phases of the year. I cannot see a weakness

:03:53. > :03:58.at the moment. I had my injury problems and I was quite worried

:03:58. > :04:05.before. I thought I would have time to get it together. I am proud of

:04:05. > :04:09.myself I managed to get it together. COMMENTATOR: Lisa Norden wins the

:04:09. > :04:14.event. Only a few points separating first

:04:14. > :04:20.and second in the world. It might actually be about making sure you

:04:20. > :04:25.beat the competitor. If you are looking at the title it is between

:04:25. > :04:32.Erin Densham and Lisa Norden. If you are looking at the overall race,

:04:32. > :04:37.it is not a two woman race. Andrea Hewitt will be another one to watch.

:04:37. > :04:41.I have had a consistent year. The same as the last few years. I have

:04:41. > :04:45.not done anything amazing so that is why I would like to finish on a

:04:45. > :04:51.high note. Last year she won on this course and I don't think it

:04:51. > :05:01.will be a problem for her. She is good on hills, so this course will

:05:01. > :05:02.

:05:02. > :05:07.suit her well. Anne Haug did a great job with Lisa Norden in

:05:07. > :05:14.Oklahoma. She has done an exceptional job and is only one

:05:14. > :05:21.point behind. I think there will be at least five girls going into the

:05:21. > :05:26.finishing sprint. I am not a big fan of sprint finishes. I am hoping

:05:26. > :05:32.to get a different strategy in this race. The only thing I can control

:05:32. > :05:37.is myself and I can only try to win. If it comes down to a sprint finish,

:05:37. > :05:42.it comes down to a sprint finish and I will do everything I can.

:05:42. > :05:48.was in this position in 2009 when I was in second. I could not make it

:05:48. > :05:52.happen to get the gold medal. Now I'll try everything again to swap

:05:52. > :05:56.my silver for a gold medal. Let's see what the women have left to do

:05:56. > :06:06.to become world champion. It should be some duel between Olympic bronze

:06:06. > :06:09.

:06:09. > :06:19.medallist, Erin Densham and silver points separating them. Like Helen

:06:19. > :06:22.

:06:23. > :06:26.Jenkins, the former world champion, Emma Moffatt it is not racing.

:06:26. > :06:36.Andrea Hewitt has the advantage of having won on her home course last

:06:36. > :06:42.year and will have most of the To be honest you would take any

:06:42. > :06:52.advantage you would get on that killer course. They will have to

:06:52. > :06:54.

:06:54. > :06:59.deal with these exceptionally high It is not just strength, it is a

:07:00. > :07:06.technical course as well. It looks hard, they will need wet suits in

:07:06. > :07:12.the harbour. Tidal currents they have to negotiate. Cold War tough.

:07:12. > :07:20.Steep hills on the bike and eight laps? A eight laps for the seniors

:07:20. > :07:25.and four for the juniors. Definitely will work your legs out.

:07:25. > :07:29.At the top of the first Hill, you turn right and come downhill and it

:07:29. > :07:34.looks like a roller-coaster ride way you are not sure what will

:07:34. > :07:39.happen over the top. If it is wet he will be going a lot of speed and

:07:39. > :07:46.I know there is there a bend at the bottom which will be difficult in

:07:46. > :07:50.the wet. It is a challenging course. By the 6th lap you will see

:07:50. > :07:56.everybody's legs getting tired and it was shown if you have not put in

:07:56. > :08:01.your training. It looks like the bike is toughest. It is up and down.

:08:01. > :08:06.Auckland looks harder than Madrid. On to the running, it is pretty

:08:06. > :08:10.tame. It is in comparison to the bike. Having done more trouble laps

:08:10. > :08:17.on the bike, will change the dynamics of those people who can

:08:17. > :08:23.run well on easier bikes. But struggled with the tougher bikes.

:08:23. > :08:29.It is unusually in very windy? is extremely windy. It is only

:08:29. > :08:33.going to catch when you go between two tall buildings. It is most

:08:34. > :08:37.sheltered. The tricky bit is you will hit the the wind and then you

:08:37. > :08:40.will go behind a building and it will be sheltered. And then guess

:08:40. > :08:48.what happens when you get to the other side of the building? The

:08:48. > :08:53.wind will hit you again. You get hit from the side. It is a tough

:08:53. > :08:59.triathlon, it will find out those who have not been training probably.

:08:59. > :09:05.I got myself training very hard. Hopefully I won't be caught out.

:09:05. > :09:08.like this course already. It is a race am looking forward to.

:09:08. > :09:15.That tough course will be the stage for what should be a dramatic

:09:15. > :09:25.showdown. We are ready to roll in Auckland. You commentators for the

:09:25. > :09:36.

:09:36. > :09:42.women's Grand Final race are Matt alongside Queen's Wharf. Then there

:09:42. > :09:49.is a minute eight lap bike course which is pretty Hayley. -- eight

:09:49. > :09:59.minutes. The cause has been designed by one or two of the

:09:59. > :10:00.

:10:00. > :10:05.legendary triathlon athletes from New Zealand in recent years. There

:10:05. > :10:15.is only one British competitor in the field today and that is Jodie

:10:15. > :10:50.

:10:50. > :11:00.Stimpson who were is number 29. -- waters of Auckland harbour. On your

:11:00. > :11:07.

:11:07. > :11:11.left, Cook's Wharf. They swim up to the turning buoys. They are wearing

:11:11. > :11:20.compulsory wetsuits. After two laps of this, a collapse of the bike,

:11:20. > :11:29.culminating with a 10 kilometre run. -- eight laps of the bike. Only a

:11:29. > :11:36.couple of the swimmers not getting on that front. The critical will be

:11:36. > :11:40.the cycle section. This was a direct request from the triathletes

:11:40. > :11:45.taking part that they are asking for a very tough courses. They

:11:45. > :11:51.think it is going to be fairer, spread out and make it more of an

:11:51. > :11:59.equal race. This would be ideal for one of the champions, Helen Jenkins,

:11:59. > :12:05.who was not here. She has been carrying around a tremendous injury.

:12:05. > :12:10.This would be her course. Having said that, Jodie Stimpson, she is

:12:10. > :12:14.in great form. I have had a lot of contact with her. She has changed

:12:14. > :12:22.her structure of training, her eating, and she has changed her

:12:22. > :12:26.coach. She is a top-class swimmer now. This really is going to be a

:12:26. > :12:30.fascinating race and we cannot always say that after the Olympics.

:12:30. > :12:38.Sometimes there is a little bit of a lull but I do not think so today.

:12:38. > :12:43.They are heading out towards the first turn. They will turn right

:12:43. > :12:48.and then swim East briefly towards Clark's Wharf before turning right

:12:48. > :12:54.again and following the line of Clark's Wharf back to the stock to

:12:54. > :13:04.complete the lap. One or two of the swimmers are getting bunched up on

:13:04. > :13:08.

:13:08. > :13:14.these are fully double Tories. It right hand came over and I couldn't

:13:14. > :13:21.spot the number but one of the swimmers got pushed almost totally

:13:21. > :13:28.underwater. Interestingly, Erin Densham was leading, she got wide,

:13:28. > :13:35.so I think she was almost taking... Pre-empting the situation, thinking

:13:35. > :13:41.if she goes in tight she will get stuck. She wanted to get a nice,

:13:41. > :13:49.calm, clear swim. They are bunching through midway... There it is

:13:49. > :13:57.again! We do see that. Someone has gone under! Goodness me, that was a

:13:57. > :14:02.very messy. Somebody got doctor twice as far as I could tell.

:14:02. > :14:05.is what it looked like. Nobody is going to be doing that deliberately.

:14:05. > :14:11.There will be penalties to pay if they do it deliberately but things

:14:11. > :14:16.do happen like that. As we say, Erin Densham is playing a very

:14:16. > :14:23.clever race, going wide on the terms making sure she has a clear

:14:23. > :14:31.swim. So a group of half the field have broken away. There was clear

:14:31. > :14:38.water between the two packs. We are with the leader, the Dutch Rachel

:14:38. > :14:46.Klamer. Erin Densham is not far away. This cold water is having a

:14:47. > :14:56.part to play. Of 14 degrees. -- 14 degrees. It is early summer in New

:14:56. > :15:03.Zealand. As they reach the halfway point in the swim, after nine and a

:15:03. > :15:11.half minutes, Rachel Klamer hits the carpeted blue area first, hangs

:15:11. > :15:21.a right and dives back in, closely followed by Erin Densham and Andrea

:15:21. > :15:28.

:15:28. > :15:38.Hewitt. Duffy from Bermuda. Jodie Stimpson, we hope she is in that

:15:38. > :15:40.

:15:41. > :15:50.FirstGroup, which has so far ticked over. The two groups separated by

:15:51. > :15:58.

:15:58. > :16:03.You get a much better impression with those cameras. From the

:16:03. > :16:08.helicopter, it looks flat but it isn't. I wonder whether it is an

:16:08. > :16:17.indication the wind is a bit stronger than we anticipated. That

:16:17. > :16:26.is going to make it even tougher with the bikes. So, with just under

:16:26. > :16:33.500 metres to swim, the field is well spread. Everybody is

:16:33. > :16:38.struggling to maintain the pace of Erin Densham and Rachel Klamer. We

:16:38. > :16:43.saw a bit of argy-bargy going on the first time they hit the right

:16:43. > :16:50.hand turn. They are quite well spread now so I anticipate there

:16:50. > :16:57.will not be quite as much brutality this time around. Fortunately for

:16:57. > :17:07.Great Britain, Jodie Stimpson is towards the back of the first pack,

:17:07. > :17:08.

:17:08. > :17:18.but she is very fast in transition. She trains a lot with Lisa Norden.

:17:18. > :17:20.

:17:20. > :17:26.And Anja Knapp. The German, Anne Haug has had a solid season.

:17:26. > :17:31.think that was Erin Densham, she went right into that! Nobody was

:17:31. > :17:39.pushing her and she hit it. I have to think if the wind is so strong

:17:39. > :17:46.that it is edging it over a little bit. This has been the fastest

:17:46. > :17:51.swimmer we have seen so far this year. The swimmers are getting

:17:51. > :18:00.pushed by the swell and the chop, and it is getting quite tight on

:18:00. > :18:08.these terms. And there is another punch-up going on between two of

:18:08. > :18:12.the swimmers in about 9th and 10th position. Oh, my goodness me! The

:18:12. > :18:16.early leaders are going wide and people are trying to come in inside

:18:16. > :18:20.them and they are taking a huge risk because once the leaders have

:18:20. > :18:26.gone past it, they will turn right to get a straight line, so the

:18:26. > :18:31.people trying to seek an advantage by turning inside, I guess to win

:18:31. > :18:36.large extent, they are bringing that upon themselves. There might

:18:36. > :18:44.be a few words exchanged between some of these triathletes after

:18:45. > :18:54.what has happened on the terms. Rachel Klamer has had a very good

:18:55. > :18:55.

:18:55. > :19:05.swim. We expect two groups to form. The first one will B30 or so strong.

:19:05. > :19:05.

:19:05. > :19:11.-- the first one will be 30 or so strong. She is working very hard.

:19:11. > :19:21.Her pre-game plan was to get the lead and it has worked for half.

:19:21. > :19:31.minutes as she comes out of the water closely followed by Densham.

:19:31. > :20:01.

:20:01. > :20:06.Klamer is first. Morrison, then There is this - now to the bikes.

:20:06. > :20:12.Morrison's white suit is around her waist to get the smooth as

:20:12. > :20:22.Transocean. They know where there bikes are parked. -- to get the

:20:22. > :20:25.

:20:25. > :20:35.smooth transition. Everything has to be done tidily. Jorgensen

:20:35. > :20:35.

:20:35. > :20:45.struggles to get the helmet off her bike. Lots of support for the New

:20:45. > :20:49.

:20:49. > :20:54.Zealand athletes. Not a great swim from Anne Haug. Aileen Morrison, a

:20:54. > :21:02.great swim for her. She ensured she got herself a clean transition as

:21:02. > :21:08.well. They head out first of four for a couple of hundred metres

:21:08. > :21:18.before they do a quick out and back. They go East, then they go West,

:21:18. > :21:22.

:21:22. > :21:27.and then they start to climb up Queen Street. They go to Fort

:21:27. > :21:33.Street, Wakefield Street, Auckland Street, and they cut through Albert

:21:33. > :21:38.Park as well. We see a lot of the sites of Auckland during these

:21:38. > :21:48.eight by claps. There is the first out and back. It is dry today so

:21:48. > :21:50.

:21:50. > :21:55.not proving problematic. Eight athletes out first. Now, these are

:21:55. > :22:05.the initial four. Eight of the athletes managed to get off in

:22:05. > :22:09.

:22:09. > :22:19.front. Kate McIlroy, Juri Ide from Japan as well. Groff has had a good

:22:19. > :22:25.

:22:25. > :22:31.season. She just missed a medal at the catch up when she looked to be

:22:31. > :22:35.dead at the Olympics. She must have pulled up 25 seconds to push

:22:35. > :22:40.herself into 4th place. Saturday afternoon crowds starting

:22:40. > :22:48.to grow in number as they welcome the first group through as they

:22:48. > :22:58.head towards the first of what are a couple of demanding climbs. The

:22:58. > :23:02.organisers have called upon Chris Gamble and Kevin Docherty to help

:23:02. > :23:10.them designed the course. A lot of the triathletes have campaigned for

:23:10. > :23:15.a tougher course. We have got a gap. We have 20 with full or 5 trying to

:23:15. > :23:24.chase. This latter part of the client is quite steep. And people

:23:24. > :23:34.are falling away from the pack. Densham was struggling to hold pace

:23:34. > :23:34.

:23:34. > :23:42.with the pack. This is the lead group numbering 20 or thereabouts.

:23:42. > :23:49.We can follow them from the helicopter shot. This is the

:23:49. > :23:59.afternoon Hayes, the temperature is expected to nudge 23 this afternoon.

:23:59. > :24:01.

:24:01. > :24:06.There is McIlroy for New Zealand. A ten-second penalty for irregular

:24:06. > :24:13.transition for Alice Betto from Italy, number 34. We are not sure

:24:13. > :24:17.what that was. Irregular transition. A ten-second penalty for Alice

:24:17. > :24:23.Betto. You remember Jonathan Brownlee having to step into the

:24:23. > :24:30.penalty box during the Olympics, and Betto would have to do that too.

:24:30. > :24:35.It could be anything. It could be trying to get into the kit box and

:24:35. > :24:45.missing out. 10 seconds is not that much. She is able to take that at

:24:45. > :24:52.any time, pretty much. Now they start to climb. Klamer is first to

:24:52. > :24:58.hit the uphill section. Keep an eye out for Jodie Stimpson on the

:24:58. > :25:04.writer of your screen. Sarah Groff is at the back of the pack. And

:25:05. > :25:09.that is Hiwot Ayalew, who has been dropped by the leaders. The leader

:25:09. > :25:14.in the world triathlon standings has lost track with the leading

:25:14. > :25:21.group and it looks like she isn't a bit of bother, Erin Densham. She is

:25:21. > :25:25.winding it up and ending her race. Therefore, she ends her chance of

:25:25. > :25:33.winning seats Triathlon World Series Grand Finals 2012. She is

:25:33. > :25:36.being consoled, but it is all over. Is it a race too far? She said

:25:36. > :25:42.after the Olympics she did very little for two weeks and then she

:25:42. > :25:47.did come back. She said she found it very difficult, the difference

:25:47. > :25:52.between takeover Training and real training. You think, post Olympics,

:25:52. > :25:56.it is very difficult because the athletes will have that as the main

:25:56. > :26:02.focus. To try to maintain that focus afterwards is hugely

:26:02. > :26:10.difficult. I think sheep is a great athlete, Erin Densham, and I have

:26:10. > :26:15.great sympathy for her. She won the first race of the series in Sydney.

:26:15. > :26:20.She was second in San Diego. She never really found that sort of

:26:20. > :26:25.winning form again. She won in Hamburg but in a depleted field as

:26:25. > :26:30.people were taking time off before the Olympics. She got bronze at the

:26:30. > :26:40.Olympics. Today, her chance of winning the title has slipped away.

:26:40. > :26:41.

:26:42. > :26:47.The only thing she can hope for his problems for Lisa Norden. Lisa

:26:47. > :26:57.Norden is there, Aileen Morrison is there, Jodie Stimpson is there,

:26:57. > :27:12.

:27:12. > :27:22.I'm not sure if she is aware of what has happened to her rival

:27:22. > :27:31.Carla Erin Densham. I'm sure her coach will relay to her, orgiastic

:27:31. > :27:37.do it is finish this today and the title is hers. Less than 20

:27:37. > :27:43.kilometres to go. Despite what we may be saying is looking so move on

:27:43. > :27:49.the bike, there doesn't appear to be any impact from the chasing pack.

:27:49. > :27:54.None of that closing up. Jodie Stimpson stayed out of trouble and

:27:54. > :28:02.played this race kg. We have an attack, what is going to happen

:28:02. > :28:10.with this one. Be it is one of the New Zealand has. It is Kate McIlroy,

:28:10. > :28:16.she has worked hard. Hoping to steal a march on her opponents. She

:28:16. > :28:21.has got a bit of daylight. 10 metres also in front of the next

:28:21. > :28:26.best, Kate McIlroy. It is a serious attack. Kate it will be looking

:28:26. > :28:31.behind and asking is anybody going to come with me? Now she has made

:28:32. > :28:35.that decision, she is pretty much going to have to go for it now to

:28:35. > :28:39.strike and stay ahead. She has done the hard work, come onto the

:28:39. > :28:43.downhill and this is where they are likely to be closing up. Unless

:28:43. > :28:48.that commitment is there, I don't think she will be able to stay

:28:48. > :28:58.awake. She needs a few athletes to get away so they can work on the

:28:58. > :29:08.difficult sections of the bike. Kate McIlroy's lead is maintained

:29:08. > :29:21.

:29:21. > :29:25.her advantage. It is not insignificant. She is determined to

:29:25. > :29:32.maintain it. Looking for a bit of support from the crowd, and she

:29:32. > :29:42.will get it when Macey the black and white... Oh dear. Aileen

:29:42. > :29:47.

:29:47. > :29:51.Morrison's race is over. She is a little tearful. Her season ends in

:29:51. > :29:56.disappointing fashion in New Zealand. I can only think there was

:29:56. > :30:02.a mechanical problem or a crash that happened away from a camera.

:30:02. > :30:12.She looked very comfortable. Bitterly disappointing with such a

:30:12. > :30:12.

:30:12. > :30:17.great swim. She was placed well in the leading pack. No great shame.

:30:17. > :30:21.Kate McIlroy is still out front. She has made the break and

:30:21. > :30:27.maintained it. Last time we checked her lead, it was about seven

:30:27. > :30:33.seconds. It is more than that now. Possibly closer to 10 seconds. A

:30:33. > :30:37.bit of work being done behind her to control the break. Kate McIlroy,

:30:37. > :30:43.if nothing else, get this wonderful feeling of elation with the home

:30:43. > :30:50.crowd right behind her, as she comes into transition and give the

:30:50. > :30:55.New Zealand supporters to get -- something to get excited about.

:30:55. > :31:01.love to see the commitment. I hope she can stay awake will stop it is

:31:01. > :31:07.a five-second lead only. Although it does look more. It is a tough

:31:07. > :31:10.call. Credit to her, she made the commitment. It appears she will

:31:10. > :31:15.stay ahead. But she is hoping somebody else is brave enough to

:31:15. > :31:19.make the break to try to get up with her so they can work together.

:31:19. > :31:26.When you look at it from the helicopter shot, five seconds is

:31:26. > :31:35.not that much at all. Kate McIlroy at least got the benefits of the

:31:35. > :31:45.Mexican wave to welcome her into transitions. Here are the chasers.

:31:45. > :31:46.

:31:46. > :31:50.They are nearly a minute behind. He maybe the 200 metres has stretched

:31:50. > :31:57.out AA fair bit. You wouldn't anticipate almost a minute coming

:31:57. > :32:03.through. It is double to close it up. The interesting one is at the

:32:03. > :32:08.front. With Kate having made the big commitment, is anybody else

:32:08. > :32:15.going to be brave enough? Will they be brave enough to say, we won't

:32:15. > :32:23.chase because we will rely on our own it running legs. Kate McIlroy

:32:23. > :32:28.is taking cheers from the crowd. She is attempting to widen this gap.

:32:28. > :32:37.It was around 10 seconds. She is out of the saddle again as she

:32:37. > :32:47.heads towards the climb. There is a bit of a reaction from Abram,

:32:47. > :32:50.

:32:50. > :32:58.Rachel Palmer and Jodie Stimpson. Was that Lisa Norden taking evasive

:32:58. > :33:05.action? I think it was Jodie Stimpson. She was just being pushed

:33:05. > :33:15.into the centre of the road. She went the other side of the Keep

:33:15. > :33:18.

:33:18. > :33:28.Left sign. Street furniture was in the way! What are you like? That is

:33:28. > :33:38.what they call it, isn't it? Transition on its feet as Stacy

:33:38. > :33:41.

:33:41. > :33:49.Kate McIlroy coming past in front of the bike stands. The gap is told

:33:49. > :33:56.seconds. Kate McIlroy leads the way by 12 seconds. She is on her way to

:33:56. > :34:03.start up the 7th lap. News from a British point of view is Jodie

:34:03. > :34:09.Stimpson is still in amongst the leaders. I am with Darren Smith,

:34:09. > :34:15.who is the Lisa Norden and and Hawk's couch. We knew she was ill,

:34:15. > :34:21.but we did not think she would pull out? It is disappointment for her.

:34:21. > :34:26.She wouldn't Paul out and leave the title to somebody else. Does Lisa

:34:26. > :34:30.Norden know she is out? She will know, we have had messages sent to

:34:30. > :34:35.her through the Swedish corporations. How was Lisa feeling

:34:35. > :34:41.ahead of the race this morning? spent a bit of time at a hospital

:34:41. > :34:46.this morning. She had a bit of food poisoning and sickness. About two

:34:46. > :34:51.hours before the race, she held down some water and consulted the

:34:52. > :34:57.dietician. So she is out there racing. I'm not sure she will be

:34:57. > :35:04.firing on all cylinders, but she is out there. New Zealand is up there,

:35:04. > :35:08.is there a bit of team tactics going on for Andrea Hewitt? Andrea

:35:09. > :35:14.Hewitt and Anne Haug of one. Difference. What we saw in the

:35:14. > :35:18.first few laps was definitely New Zealand pushing the pace in the

:35:18. > :35:21.first group. Anne Haug was not in the first group until the second or

:35:21. > :35:27.third lap. Why you have got somebody going off the front right

:35:27. > :35:32.now, the emphasis was taken away. With your goals going for first and

:35:32. > :35:40.third, how are your nerves? We are doing OK, it has been interesting.

:35:40. > :35:49.I'm looking forward to the running race. It looks to me as if Kate's

:35:50. > :35:55.cadence has slowed slightly. We will see if it is significant.

:35:55. > :36:01.is about to because, Steve. Be it is tough, I admire the bravery of

:36:01. > :36:07.the athletes who are willing to go by themselves. It is obviously what

:36:07. > :36:11.Kris Gemmell was looking to do. When they were asked to design this

:36:11. > :36:17.course. I do think it is maybe a little bit of a shame nobody was

:36:17. > :36:22.brave enough to go along because it could have changed the race. Kate

:36:22. > :36:32.McIlroy who made the break has been caught. Now she is back in with the

:36:32. > :36:35.

:36:35. > :36:41.pack. So, the group rose once again to 19. No change at the back. Sarah

:36:41. > :36:46.Groff is still there. Kate McIlroy, twice she entered transition in the

:36:46. > :36:51.lead, but the energy she expended has obviously taken its toll and

:36:51. > :36:59.she has decided all she can do is hope for the best as they head out

:36:59. > :37:06.to tackle the 7th lap. Things will start to wind up as they approached

:37:06. > :37:11.the end of the final lap. Everybody will be starting to prepare the

:37:11. > :37:19.transition. You will see them reach down and reach for their shoes and

:37:19. > :37:23.start to take off the Velcro straps to make the exit, take their feet

:37:23. > :37:32.out of the issues as they get to transition, much smoother and

:37:32. > :37:41.easier. It has all been rehearsed and put into practice many times.

:37:41. > :37:50.The 8th lap is almost done. Ai Ueda of Japan. She glances over her

:37:50. > :37:59.shoulder. Jessica Harrison is still there. Lisa Norden just went

:38:00. > :38:04.through. Jodie Stimpson involved as well. This is the last of the

:38:04. > :38:14.climbing and they have a chance to freewheel down towards transition

:38:14. > :38:24.

:38:24. > :38:34.Norden, the Olympic silver medallist, the champion of the

:38:34. > :38:37.

:38:37. > :38:47.World Series in waiting. She has removed her feet from her shoes.

:38:47. > :38:51.

:38:51. > :38:54.Debbie Tanner is there for New Zealand. Yuka Sato the Japan.

:38:54. > :38:58.have seen early preparations from Jodie Stimpson to take her right

:38:58. > :39:05.foot out early on. But she has a great position at the front of the

:39:06. > :39:13.pack. Sarah Groff is still at the back. Coming into the final stages

:39:13. > :39:19.of this last laugh -- lap in last position. Will she try and claw

:39:19. > :39:22.back a place or two as they come to the blue carpet. There is the

:39:22. > :39:29.dismount line, they have to get that right and hit the ground

:39:29. > :39:39.running. Parking places a weather bikes will be left. Jodie Stimpson

:39:39. > :39:43.

:39:43. > :39:53.is third. Lisa Norden is 4th. Rachel, his 5th. -- Rachel clamour.

:39:53. > :39:57.

:39:57. > :40:05.One is down. That was the Spaniard who got a hit on the head from her

:40:05. > :40:10.own bike. Sarah Groff, I am surprised. I thought she would be

:40:10. > :40:16.quicker through transitions. They have been cheeky to try to get an

:40:16. > :40:25.early place. That is and Hawk. She is a strong runner. She has taken

:40:25. > :40:35.the initiative at the start of the first lap. A different course. 2.5

:40:35. > :41:00.

:41:00. > :41:09.kilometre laps. It will complete Haug is in second. Juri Ide takes

:41:09. > :41:18.some more to a. Anja Knapp House a lead of 10 seconds. -- has a lead

:41:18. > :41:28.of 10 seconds. Duffy in the All Road. So relaxed, Lisa Norden and

:41:28. > :41:28.

:41:28. > :41:35.Jodie Stimpson. I thought that Flora Duffy was working too hard.

:41:35. > :41:41.Anja Knapp is working very hard. Look at Sharon as she goes around.

:41:41. > :41:47.So relaxed. There were some incidents as they came into

:41:47. > :41:56.transition. There we are, just behind the dismount line, perfect

:41:56. > :42:03.timing for Anja Knapp. She left transition ahead of them all. Murua

:42:03. > :42:09.was not so lucky. She slipped. She went down. She got whacked on the

:42:09. > :42:18.head. The helmet was still on. Possibly she could have touched

:42:18. > :42:28.bikes with Jessica Harrison. Now, 10 have emerged with only eight of

:42:28. > :42:31.

:42:31. > :42:39.about six metres... Over the Australian. That is Felicity Abram,

:42:40. > :42:44.who is in the 11th. She is trying to close the gap. Andrea Hewitt,

:42:44. > :42:49.and then McIlroy who made the early break is doing well to stay with

:42:49. > :42:55.the pace. Yes, she must be one of the danger athletes because she is

:42:55. > :43:01.going to be feeling very good on home territory. She won the race

:43:01. > :43:09.last year. The lifting from the crowd will make the difference.

:43:09. > :43:18.There we see the leaders turning awake as the pursuers come through.

:43:18. > :43:27.Ide look -- looks like she is full of running. Klamer is looking

:43:27. > :43:37.relaxed, considering she was out of the water first. Duffy has settled.

:43:37. > :43:37.

:43:37. > :43:45.Knapp's early break has been undone. She is sitting in 4th. Look out for

:43:45. > :43:49.Riveros. Lisa Norden can finish with a sprint. She may not be as

:43:49. > :43:55.fast as she was in the last couple of races because she was sick last

:43:55. > :44:04.night and even took some medical advice and went to hospital

:44:04. > :44:08.suffering from food poisoning. will shortly enter transition for

:44:08. > :44:13.the penultimate time. The next time they come through, the trophies

:44:13. > :44:17.will be handed out. The trophies have only just arrived. They got

:44:17. > :44:23.lost in Hong Kong. They had replacement lined up in case they

:44:23. > :44:32.didn't arrive. Just in the nick of time they have now -- turned up in

:44:32. > :44:38.Auckland. There will be something to take away from the event. We

:44:38. > :44:43.know that Lisa Norden will wrap up the title for 2012. But there is

:44:43. > :44:50.such a talented group of triathletes. Sarah Groff looks

:44:50. > :44:54.relaxed, the tall American who kept out of trouble, barely visible on

:44:54. > :45:00.the 40 kilometre bike ride. She was at the back of the pack for the

:45:00. > :45:10.entire cycle. She is not in a good position. Jodie Stimpson is in

:45:10. > :45:12.

:45:12. > :45:19.there, too. The two Germans now, and McIlroy of New Zealand is still

:45:19. > :45:23.in contention. The host nation is hoping that Andrea Hewitt can

:45:23. > :45:31.produce a good finish. She is moving towards the front as they

:45:31. > :45:37.come towards transition. I guess Andrea and Kate Hope the crowd will

:45:37. > :45:43.lift them in and out on to the final lap. Surely, there has to be

:45:43. > :45:50.a move soon. Nobody can fill that confident in their sprinting

:45:50. > :45:57.ability. They take the bell to begin the final lap of the Auckland

:45:58. > :46:06.Grand Final. The last race of 2012 in the world triathlon series. This

:46:06. > :46:11.is going to one of 11 or 12. And Jorgensen is desperately trying to

:46:11. > :46:17.be involved as well. She has got two and a half kilometres, the gap

:46:17. > :46:24.is too long for her to get in among the podium places. One of the

:46:24. > :46:31.Germans has been dropped. Maybe this is reminiscent of Kate Allen

:46:31. > :46:36.at the Olympics when everybody, myself included, I wrote her out.

:46:36. > :46:41.She had an amazing final run leg. She was two minutes down and came

:46:41. > :46:48.right back. As you say, a podium would be almost unbelievable but

:46:48. > :46:52.the way that Jorgensen is running, she is now doing what Sarah Groff

:46:52. > :46:59.did at the Olympic Games when we said she would not be there. She is

:46:59. > :47:07.doing just that. Jorgensen, of course, the pace has lifted at the

:47:07. > :47:17.pack. So it is going to be difficult. Here she comes. She is

:47:17. > :47:20.

:47:20. > :47:24.about to overtake Knapp. She is shaping up for a bit of a scrap.

:47:24. > :47:34.Klamer spreading the field across the road. Mascot heads for the

:47:34. > :47:49.

:47:49. > :47:55.that is a call for her. What does she do when she joins that group?

:47:55. > :48:02.The temptation, and I guess the sensible thing would be to ease

:48:02. > :48:07.down. To take a rest. And then to move away again. If she does change

:48:07. > :48:13.that pace, the difficulty in lifting herself again when she is

:48:13. > :48:23.already having to work so hard, that pays at the front by Anne Haug,

:48:23. > :48:24.

:48:24. > :48:31.my goodness me! And Murua has gone right back. Betto has made her

:48:31. > :48:39.intentions clear and at the moment nobody has attempted to go with her.

:48:40. > :48:44.-- Haug. She's clenching her fists. Nobody has reacted early on. Sarah

:48:44. > :48:49.Groff determined that with the tactics she has employed so far she

:48:49. > :48:54.doesn't want to let her get away. It looks like Jodie Stimpson is

:48:54. > :49:00.beginning to react. Early times but they will have to try to close her

:49:00. > :49:05.down because that lead is getting bigger and bigger and bigger.

:49:05. > :49:10.Jorgensen is almost with the chasing group of seven and she will

:49:10. > :49:15.join from in a few seconds. Anne Haug has kicked away and made this

:49:15. > :49:22.race her own. She looks very comfortable. She was second last

:49:22. > :49:28.time out. She was 4th in Stockholm. She has run a sensible race. And

:49:28. > :49:34.the gap is now getting on for 10 seconds. But Anne Haug has opened

:49:34. > :49:39.up, she has moved in front, the New Zealand supporters have seen the

:49:39. > :49:48.black, but as she comes into view, they are disappointed to see the

:49:48. > :49:55.German and not there New Zealander. -- the New Zealander. It is Anne

:49:55. > :50:01.Haug who leads the race. She left it until the last quarter of the

:50:01. > :50:06.run. That move away has been absolutely emphatic. It doesn't

:50:07. > :50:11.look like we're getting a strong response at all. The group working

:50:11. > :50:15.together, Sarah Groff moving to the front, but there hasn't been that

:50:15. > :50:24.change of pace injected by Sam Ratchford. Very brave to go that

:50:24. > :50:30.early but it just could have paid off for her. Sarah Groff and

:50:30. > :50:35.Riveros currently sharing the honours in second but our leader is

:50:35. > :50:41.Anne Haug. And she will get a very good idea of the gap that she has

:50:41. > :50:49.created for herself here. Jorgensen is with the chasers. She could get

:50:49. > :50:57.on the podium. That is 16, maybe 18 seconds, and that is very big. And,

:50:57. > :51:04.yes, Jorgensen could be on the podium. Barbara Riveros Diaz and

:51:04. > :51:12.Sprint, so can Lisa Norden, Jodie Stimpson as well. And now Klamer

:51:12. > :51:21.has tried to go with Jorgensen. Jorgensen is in 4th place. Anne

:51:21. > :51:28.Haug is clear of them. Jorgensen and Lisa Norden and Jodie Stimpson

:51:28. > :51:32.are trying to maintain their grip on this group. It is so tight.

:51:32. > :51:42.Barbara Riveros Diaz has come through, Jorgensen has come through

:51:42. > :51:42.

:51:42. > :51:46.into second place. Klamer and showing a little bit of fatigue.

:51:46. > :51:51.Stimpson has recovered. So, Jorgensen going through and we

:51:51. > :51:58.could see Stimpson and Norden closing in on Barbara Riveros Diaz.

:51:58. > :52:07.Will they be able to take a? I don't know. Stimpson is moving away

:52:07. > :52:12.from Klamer. If Haug loses it, if she runs out of steam, Jorgensen

:52:12. > :52:17.could win this, remarkably. I'm not sure that will happen because she

:52:17. > :52:26.looks pretty good at this stage, but it is the sort of situation

:52:26. > :52:30.that does arise from time to time, as Alistair Brownlee found out to

:52:30. > :52:37.destroy his chances of winning at Hyde Park a couple of years ago.

:52:37. > :52:44.Jorgensen is spreading them out. She is in second. This is our

:52:44. > :52:47.leader, Anne Haug. She is moving away. Norden has made the reaction

:52:47. > :52:52.but for the first time, of Stimpson is staying -- is finding it

:52:52. > :52:57.difficult to stay with the pace. The cadence of Barbara Riveros Diaz

:52:57. > :53:01.and Jorgensen is very high indeed. They are trying to chase down Anne

:53:01. > :53:06.Haug but I think they are going to run out of distance before they run

:53:06. > :53:09.out of time. But for Lisa Norden to be in 4th position at the moment

:53:09. > :53:19.when the pace is up, that is surprising but showing no sign of

:53:19. > :53:24.Children's Hospice -- no sign of weakness at all. She has worked so

:53:24. > :53:29.hard, Anne Haug, she has worked so hard, and she's getting in sight of

:53:29. > :53:34.that final finish. She is nearly home. There is a significant gap

:53:34. > :53:41.now to the next three. There are three battling for two Further

:53:41. > :53:46.places on the podium. It looks as if it will be the first world

:53:46. > :53:51.triathlon series win for Anne Haug. She has been so close on so many

:53:51. > :54:00.occasions. 4th in Madrid, 4th in Hamburg, 4th in Stockholm, second

:54:00. > :54:03.in Yokohama. It is going to be her day. Her timing was exquisite. Two

:54:03. > :54:12.hours and 10 minutes have gone since the start of this intriguing

:54:12. > :54:22.race. The Grand Final, the last World Series race of 2012 goes the

:54:22. > :54:22.

:54:23. > :54:27.way of Germany's Anne Haug in a time of 2:10.50. And Jorgensen

:54:27. > :54:35.sprints home for an unlikely second position with Barbara Riveros Diaz

:54:35. > :54:40.finishing third, Norden takes the series title in four today, with a

:54:40. > :54:48.superb 5th position for Great Britain's Jodie Stimpson. She is 15

:54:48. > :54:55.seconds off the pace. Klamer takes 6th ahead of Hewitt and McIlroy,

:54:55. > :55:00.the two Kiwis, finishing in the top 10. The tactics of Sarah Groff

:55:00. > :55:07.didn't pay off for her today, 9th position, with Juri Ide, will lead

:55:07. > :55:11.the run for so long, finishing in 10th spot. A great race for Jodie

:55:11. > :55:15.Stimpson today. It is not the position but the depth of the field,

:55:15. > :55:20.the way she reacted, the way she raced right the way through,

:55:20. > :55:24.absolutely superb. The Lady of the moment, she is exhausted but

:55:24. > :55:29.delighted. There is a little bit of tears and happiness coming through.

:55:29. > :55:33.She was not the winner today but, over all, what a fantastic season

:55:33. > :55:42.she has had. The Olympic silver medal, full credit to Lisa, to do

:55:42. > :55:52.that when she has been so ill. is the champion of the Triathlon

:55:52. > :56:11.

:56:11. > :56:17.sensational second for Gwen Jorgensen. Third for Barbara

:56:18. > :56:27.Riveros Diaz, and an excellent 5th for Jodie Stimpson of Great Britain.

:56:28. > :56:29.

:56:29. > :56:36.In first place, representing Germany, and a hawk. -- Anne Haug.

:56:36. > :56:41.On top of the podium in Auckland after a beautifully timed race. Her

:56:41. > :56:50.first world triathlon series victory, having come so close on

:56:50. > :56:57.several occasions this year. Confirmation of the final standings

:56:57. > :57:02.the 2012. In the end it was comfortable for Lisa Norden after

:57:02. > :57:11.the withdrawal of Erin Densham. And Anne Haug's victory a move tear up

:57:11. > :57:19.to second overall. Something to celebrate the other host nation by

:57:19. > :57:25.finishing third in the overall standings in 2012. In second place,

:57:25. > :57:35.or representing Germany, and Hogg. And Hogg, the winner of today's

:57:35. > :57:45.

:57:45. > :57:55.race moved up the standings. -- champion, representing Sweden, Lisa

:57:55. > :57:55.

:57:55. > :58:01.Norden. Silver medallist in the Olympics. It so could easily have

:58:01. > :58:04.been the gold. Any disappointment will be put behind her now as she

:58:04. > :58:13.accepts the trophy and is crowned the world champion The Two Towers

:58:13. > :58:22.Congratulations, you have been crowd world champion, how does it

:58:22. > :58:27.feel? It has not sunk in. It has been amazing. You were told by your

:58:27. > :58:32.coach you were in hospital last night, how did you carry on?

:58:32. > :58:38.likelihood of me starting was about this big. The water woke me up. I

:58:38. > :58:45.did not know if I would be able to pull it together. Al was just going

:58:45. > :58:52.to hope for the best. I pulled it together. Olympic silver and now

:58:52. > :58:57.world champion, what kind of the year has it been for you? This is a

:58:57. > :59:03.breakthrough year. You and Andrea were actually in your own match

:59:03. > :59:08.race for third and because Erin Densham dropped out, you are now

:59:08. > :59:16.silver over all? Can you believe it? No come I cannot find the words

:59:16. > :59:22.for it. It is amazing. My dreams have come true. It is a perfect

:59:22. > :59:28.season with the perfect highlight. Erin, you were ill going into the

:59:28. > :59:34.race, what made you pull out in the end? Obviously the fact I was going

:59:34. > :59:38.backwards at a race of knots. you watch the rest of the race,

:59:38. > :59:44.what we your emotions? I watched it with frustrations. I have done the

:59:44. > :59:48.best I can. I did everything I could to get to the start line as

:59:48. > :59:54.healthy as possible. I have not been able to do the work obviously.

:59:54. > :59:59.But I have had the best year. This is the first season I have ever

:59:59. > :00:07.finished in my triathlon career. I have to be happy with that. Jodie,

:00:07. > :00:12.a top-five finish, congratulations. It is your best result ever? I felt

:00:12. > :00:17.that the run was easy until the last lap. I was just thinking, I am

:00:17. > :00:23.still here. What has been the change, is it changing your

:00:23. > :00:32.coaching team? I think Darren Smith is the change. He has given me my

:00:32. > :00:38.confidence back. He believes in me and given me my normal self- back.

:00:38. > :00:44.This being the world triathlon series Grand Final, there are lots

:00:44. > :00:48.of events going on. What championships in Paris triathlon.

:00:48. > :00:53.The under 23 is have been going for glory on the same course as the

:00:53. > :01:02.lead. Great Britain has a world champion. At the chasing down the

:01:02. > :01:07.lead pack early on, he ended on -- she ended up in a tool with the

:01:08. > :01:14.Dutch runner. It was toe to go until a car long enough to go. The

:01:14. > :01:17.other Brits, Lucy Thorpe and there was Rossendale came in 8th and 21st

:01:18. > :01:27.respectively. Congratulations, you are the under

:01:27. > :01:33.23 world champion. I cannot believe it. We have had some tough times, I

:01:33. > :01:38.am delighted. You are a double world champion with the mixed relay

:01:38. > :01:43.championships in Stockholm, what a year? It you said a year ago I

:01:43. > :01:49.would have got on the podium twice, I wouldn't have believed do. I

:01:49. > :01:57.cannot thank the team and everybody. I know it is cheesy, but everybody

:01:57. > :02:02.contributes. Without them, I wouldn't be here. In the men's

:02:02. > :02:10.under 23 is, Tom Bishop was aiming to better last year's bronze medal,

:02:10. > :02:19.but he matched the result. The 2000 the 11 under 23, Matt Sharp came in

:02:19. > :02:25.in 6th place. Well done Thomas. was inevitable, I tried to burn it

:02:25. > :02:31.out of them, and I tried my hardest. It was the best I could do. It has

:02:31. > :02:38.been a good weekend for the British athletes. That is how we train, we

:02:38. > :02:42.train from the front. There is still one more world title left on

:02:42. > :02:45.offer. The one that currently belongs to Alistair Brownlee. He

:02:45. > :02:50.has not raced in of the season to stay world champion, but his

:02:50. > :02:53.younger brother is more than happy to take his place. Jonathan

:02:53. > :02:58.Brownlee has had such a great season he does not need a victory

:02:58. > :03:08.in Auckland, he just has to get onto the podium. But in true style,

:03:08. > :03:27.

:03:27. > :03:34.he is going for a win, to cap what It is my home away from home. I

:03:34. > :03:40.have my coach, my training partner from Leeds, and my grandmother.

:03:40. > :03:45.That is the way I like it will stop a happy athlete is a successful

:03:45. > :03:49.athletes. I think the key to this year has been consistency. It has

:03:49. > :03:55.been a long year with the Olympics. It is a month later than it would

:03:55. > :03:58.be normally. We have made sure he recovers as well as possible.

:03:58. > :04:02.become world champion would be special. It is something I have

:04:02. > :04:08.never done before and something I have dreamt about. But it will be

:04:08. > :04:12.overshadowed by the Olympic Games. The Olympic Games or was massive in

:04:12. > :04:17.British sport and nothing will ever beaten that day. But to become

:04:17. > :04:21.world champion is special. I was special in the world junior

:04:22. > :04:25.championships. So to be the world senior champion would be great.

:04:25. > :04:30.is a progression, but we have got to get through the weekend and he

:04:30. > :04:35.has a job to do. That is all the is focusing on at the moment. I have

:04:35. > :04:39.been in New Zealand the 10 days. I have enjoyed my training. I'm

:04:39. > :04:43.looking forward to racing now and doing well. Finishing the season

:04:43. > :04:47.and becoming world champion would be great. But it has been a

:04:48. > :04:52.difficult year. You don't have to win in New Zealand to become world

:04:52. > :04:58.champion, you just need to get on the podium. Do you think this is

:04:59. > :05:06.yours to lose in a way? Yes, because I do realise I only have to

:05:06. > :05:10.come third. If Javier Gomez wins, I only have to come third. I don't

:05:11. > :05:19.want to run round thinking about the maths. I just want to race a

:05:19. > :05:23.normal race and hopefully I will get a podium.

:05:23. > :05:28.He people expect me to get on the podium and become world champion.

:05:28. > :05:32.But I am used to dealing with pressure. The home Olympics this

:05:32. > :05:37.year was a great experiment for this race and a trial run for

:05:37. > :05:43.dealing with the pressure. This is the first year he has not had his

:05:43. > :05:50.older brother looking out for him. Jonathan has matured as an athlete.

:05:50. > :05:55.In Stockholm, and he was no where around. But Jonathan never blinked

:05:55. > :06:00.and got on with the job. He knows how to boss a race now and how

:06:00. > :06:06.tactically to operate in a race. He knows he does not need necessarily

:06:06. > :06:12.to have his brother to help him along. Alastair is such a strong

:06:12. > :06:17.athlete, and the races go how he wants them to. A lot of the time, I

:06:17. > :06:22.am following him. It is less pressure when he is not here,

:06:22. > :06:28.because I enjoyed the way I have to react and pushing the pace. I enjoy

:06:28. > :06:38.the fact people expect me to win, I enjoyed that excitement.

:06:38. > :06:41.

:06:41. > :06:51.COMMENTATOR: Jonathan Brownlee is the champion of the world.

:06:51. > :06:54.

:06:54. > :06:59.He is appendix had to come out. He is on a track at the moment up some

:06:59. > :07:03.mountain some were in Chile. One of the reasons they are as good as

:07:03. > :07:07.they are, they just loved it. If the cameras were not rolling and

:07:07. > :07:10.there was no prize money, they just love doing what they do. They are

:07:11. > :07:16.pushing themselves to the limit. Getting out into the countryside

:07:16. > :07:21.and training hard. They are totally committed at all times. But they

:07:21. > :07:29.also relax and have fun. It shows everyone in our training group that

:07:29. > :07:33.at the end of the day you get out what you put in. What about you as

:07:33. > :07:38.a team around him, what would it mean to see him become world

:07:38. > :07:43.champion? I have been working with him for four years. So to see him

:07:43. > :07:47.come through and to achieve that, is fantastic. He is the right for

:07:47. > :07:53.world champion this year. I see him every day training, he is

:07:53. > :07:57.incredible to watch. He is looking fast, so I think by the end of this

:07:57. > :08:01.went -- weekend, Jonathan Brownlee could be the world champion.

:08:01. > :08:06.man who separate the Brownlee brothers on the Olympic podium is

:08:06. > :08:11.the main threat to Jonathan this weekend. But Javier Gomez would

:08:11. > :08:16.have to hit some bad luck to become world champion for about its --

:08:16. > :08:23.third time. He is 180 points behind the leader. Even if he topped the

:08:23. > :08:29.Auckland podium, he would only win the series over all if Jonathan

:08:29. > :08:39.finished 4th or below. AlexanderBryukhankov has been

:08:39. > :08:58.

:08:58. > :09:05.The how was Christchurch training with Andrea Hewitt? It was great

:09:05. > :09:10.training with them. It is a good place for running, great place for

:09:11. > :09:16.swimming so we had everything we needed. When we came home, Javier

:09:16. > :09:22.Gomez came home with us, and it has been great because we have all been

:09:22. > :09:27.training for this event. He was very good. Organised some rides and

:09:27. > :09:34.he fitted in well. How are you feeling going into the 2012 Grand

:09:34. > :09:40.we are looking forward to having some holidays. But it is the last

:09:40. > :09:44.race and I had my chances to be the world champion. It gives me

:09:44. > :09:50.motivation to have a good race. Tell us about the setback you had

:09:50. > :09:55.before you go hammer, the training with your injury? It was a tough

:09:56. > :10:01.time. I sprained my ankle warming up for the national championships

:10:01. > :10:05.and it was a couple of weeks with no running. It was hard, but

:10:05. > :10:12.luckily I recovered well. The last few weeks of training had been good.

:10:12. > :10:16.I may not be 100% or at my best figures, but I am OK. He still

:10:16. > :10:21.managed to come second in Japan but you are not as close to Jonathan in

:10:21. > :10:25.the rankings as you would like to have been? I wanted to win in Japan,

:10:25. > :10:33.and to get closer to Jonathan's. But the situation was with my

:10:33. > :10:37.injury. Second place was OK. It was a very good Ripper -- result. Now I

:10:37. > :10:43.had some points and a bit less than him. You never know what can happen.

:10:43. > :10:46.It is difficult, he has been on the podium for the last 17 races. He

:10:46. > :10:51.should be out of the podium for this one if I want to win the title.

:10:51. > :11:01.But we have to race and see what happens. Are you ready? Yes, I

:11:01. > :11:08.

:11:08. > :11:14.Now we are all poised and ready for the Grand Final race.

:11:14. > :11:24.It is a wet afternoon in Auckland in the North Island of New Zealand

:11:24. > :11:28.

:11:28. > :11:34.as we get set for the elite men's swim between Queens Wharf and

:11:34. > :11:39.Cook's Wharf. Then they had got on the bike, five kilometres on each

:11:39. > :11:45.of the eight laps, taking them through the corner of Albert Park.

:11:45. > :11:54.Some stiff climbs thrown in. With the wet weather, it is going to be

:11:54. > :12:01.tough today. The course finishes with four 2.5 kilometre lapse on

:12:01. > :12:11.foot, the 10 kilometre run to round things off. Jonathan Brownlee wears

:12:11. > :12:26.

:12:26. > :12:31.British competitor to Dave. Adam Bowden is also in it, and Mark

:12:31. > :12:40.Buckingham, too. There is the starting line-up at the bottom of

:12:40. > :12:50.your screen. The triathletes are wearing wetsuits. There they are.

:12:50. > :13:03.

:13:03. > :13:11.And the hacker welcomes them what has been a fantastic season

:13:11. > :13:15.for him and his brother? He is absent here because he had an

:13:15. > :13:20.emergency appendectomy a while ago. The Olympic champion, he will be

:13:20. > :13:27.watching closely now as his younger brother Brendan Sexton, who took

:13:27. > :13:32.bronze at the Olympics attempts to become the world triathlon series

:13:32. > :13:36.champion for 2012. He leads the standings and he will be one of the

:13:36. > :13:46.leaders as they dive off the pontoon and begin to attack the

:13:46. > :13:47.

:13:47. > :13:51.first lap. They will exit the water before diving back in again. And we

:13:51. > :13:55.have a couple of packs starting to form. The official statistics show

:13:55. > :14:05.the air temperature of 14.5 with the water temperature slightly

:14:05. > :14:09.warmer than that, hence the wetsuits are compulsory. What will

:14:09. > :14:14.Jonathan's tactics be? Looking at what happened in the swim yesterday

:14:14. > :14:19.with the women's, it was quite brutal. That pack split early on in

:14:19. > :14:25.the swim and when they had established the breakaway, that was

:14:25. > :14:28.it set, and they couldn't catch up. What Johnny needs to do and his

:14:28. > :14:36.great rival Javier Gomez, they will be content to get in with the

:14:36. > :14:41.leaders, and we can expect Richard Varga to be there. He needs to be

:14:41. > :14:47.their very high up so he can try to establish his place in the cycle

:14:47. > :14:53.discipline. But, really, for Jonathan Brownlee, he needs to be

:14:53. > :15:02.there. Also watch out for Alexander Bryukhankov, a powerful athlete. He

:15:02. > :15:06.has got an outside chance. But he needs circumstances to be such that

:15:06. > :15:14.Javier Gomez and Jonathan Brownlee are nowhere near the podium. To be

:15:14. > :15:22.honest, unless the weather or mechanical favours -- failures come

:15:22. > :15:28.into play, it is really Javier Gomez verses Jonathan Brownlee.

:15:28. > :15:32.There are three groups that have formed. The man out in front is

:15:32. > :15:38.Richard Varga. You may remember him from the Olympic triathlon, the

:15:38. > :15:45.very strong swimmer who was out of the water first, and he set the

:15:45. > :15:52.pace on 7th August. He is doing the same today. Richard Varga from

:15:52. > :15:57.Slovakia, number 25 has left quite a gap now between him and the next

:15:57. > :16:07.bet as he heads towards that top yellow buoy. There are two on the

:16:07. > :16:12.right of your screen. They come back around the yellow buoy and

:16:12. > :16:18.back towards the pontoon where they run along briefly and dive back

:16:19. > :16:24.into commends the second lap. He is comfortably the best swimmer, Varga.

:16:24. > :16:31.It is a big lead. That is about 10 metres with not even a quarter of

:16:31. > :16:36.the swim done. Just to confirm that, he has gone out very fast indeed. I

:16:36. > :16:40.think perhaps we are very plain -- very much playing the waiting game.

:16:40. > :16:47.They are looking to see what kind of blind Varga is taking and they

:16:47. > :16:54.will be picking up with him as they get nearer the second buoy. I will

:16:54. > :16:59.be surprised if he sits out there all the way. It made the difference

:16:59. > :17:07.in the Olympic women's laced -- race but he has a huge advantage.

:17:07. > :17:12.He will come around here on his own. Yesterday, the top and swell gave

:17:12. > :17:16.us argy-bargy. Expect the same. There was lots of ducking and

:17:16. > :17:20.diving yesterday and some guys are getting caught under that

:17:20. > :17:27.inflatable. The life-savers are nearby and hopefully they will not

:17:27. > :17:33.be needed but it is a real scramble. We have some hands on heads and

:17:34. > :17:38.orange hats getting pushed underneath. And that buoy has,

:17:38. > :17:42.thankfully, lifted to reveal no damage has been done and everybody

:17:42. > :17:48.is second -- is heading towards the second term. It is one of the most

:17:48. > :17:55.chaotic terms we have seen, and it is all down to the prevailing wind

:17:55. > :18:02.which blows the swimmers against the buoy and into each other. It is

:18:02. > :18:08.a little wild out there. It is a tough first win then it appears. As

:18:08. > :18:13.we saw them are approaching the first buoy. So many swimmers seemed

:18:13. > :18:19.-- seemed to be forced to the right hand side. They would not choose

:18:19. > :18:26.that by any means at all. Richard Varga is in front. Jonathan

:18:26. > :18:31.Brownlee has decided he will try to close the gap to Richard Varga.

:18:31. > :18:36.There he is, with that clear daylight now between the rest of

:18:36. > :18:41.the chasing group. You can see it clearly from the helicopter shot.

:18:41. > :18:43.They are snaking away, the wind blowing them off course. Richard

:18:43. > :18:49.Varga is in front and Jonathan Brownlee has made a determined

:18:49. > :18:53.effort to get close to the breakaway swimmer. It is great to

:18:53. > :18:57.see Jonathan Brownlee there. He has seen the danger gone for it, and if

:18:57. > :19:07.they stay away from this, we could see something working on the bike

:19:07. > :19:07.

:19:07. > :19:13.in the early stages. So, Varga and Brownlee in front. They have under

:19:13. > :19:19.1,000 metres to swim. It is brave to go away at this early stage and

:19:19. > :19:24.it is very brave for Brownlee to see the danger. We expect Varga to

:19:24. > :19:29.be there, but rather than staying in the safety of the pack, Brownlee

:19:29. > :19:38.has chosen to go for it. It is a big gap at the moment with over

:19:38. > :19:42.half a swim to go. Varga will arrive at the pontoon first with

:19:42. > :19:48.Jonathan Brownlee a couple of seconds behind him. Up the ramp

:19:48. > :19:52.goes Varga. He slips slightly. He has a glance over his shoulder and

:19:52. > :20:02.he is surprised to see Brownlee with him. Away they go for the

:20:02. > :20:09.second lap. We will see how far Javier Gomez is behind. So, clearly,

:20:09. > :20:14.Jonathan Brownlee and Varga are in good position. Then there was a

:20:14. > :20:24.group of 10 and more arriving on the pontoon to dive in and begin

:20:24. > :20:27.

:20:27. > :20:34.the second lap. Adam Bowden and McNamee are in that group. Justus

:20:35. > :20:41.isn't are behind. We will look out for the other British athletes.

:20:41. > :20:50.Aaron Harris coming in 30 seconds of the pace. So, it is Varga and

:20:50. > :20:56.Brownlee in front. Number 18, Maik Petzold is at the front of the

:20:56. > :20:59.chase group. It puts a different complexion on series now with

:20:59. > :21:04.Brownlee. I would have thought that only five athletes brave enough to

:21:04. > :21:09.get out the front and may be tried to go for it by themselves and

:21:09. > :21:17.Jonathan Brownlee will be one of those. You think that if

:21:17. > :21:23.Bryukhankov had gone out with them or one of the tough bike riders

:21:23. > :21:29.would have made go, and whether Richard Varga will be brave enough

:21:30. > :21:34.to go with Brownlee because his cycling is good but certainly not

:21:35. > :21:39.on the hills. And if Brownlee goes and makes the break, he is going to

:21:39. > :21:44.be in a great position to be out in front with over an hour and a half

:21:44. > :21:48.in front. It will be tough for him, but he will be calling in to play

:21:48. > :21:53.that Yorkshire grit. They were talking about the Olympic Games. If

:21:53. > :21:57.Yorkshire was a nation, they would have been in the top 10 nations.

:21:57. > :22:07.Good for Jonathan Brownlee. He has chased after -- he has chased after

:22:07. > :22:10.

:22:10. > :22:17.Richard Varga. Now they come out from behind the shelter of Queen's

:22:17. > :22:23.Wharf and they hit a bit of swell and they can be pushed off course.

:22:23. > :22:28.I tell you what, that lead to me seems around 35 metres. If that

:22:28. > :22:34.continues, they are going to be taking a 32nd advantage into

:22:34. > :22:38.transition. I know it is early stages, and I know it is a three-

:22:38. > :22:42.part race right the way through, but we have seen Jonathan Brownlee

:22:42. > :22:45.before where he has had the guts to go not by himself but with only the

:22:46. > :22:54.way pack and also he has been prepared to do so much work. If he

:22:54. > :23:02.has made that decision to go with Varga... It was a conscious

:23:02. > :23:07.decision to go out there. As think he's thinking that with these tough

:23:07. > :23:12.conditions, maybe this would be the one to try to go from the front.

:23:12. > :23:17.Here we go, time for trouble at the turn off. One or two of them

:23:17. > :23:23.sneaking under the yellow buoy and we hope they all emerge from there.

:23:23. > :23:28.Again, hands on heads, ducking and diving, squabbling, elbows and arms

:23:28. > :23:34.everywhere, goggles may have been knocked off, some swimming caps

:23:34. > :23:42.knocked off, this is a really dangerous situation in the waters

:23:42. > :23:47.of Auckland. There is one more time to come. The German, Maik Petzold,

:23:47. > :23:50.in third position, he has got no worries but it is at this point

:23:50. > :24:00.when the middle of the pack come through that things start to get

:24:00. > :24:11.

:24:11. > :24:21.coming through, he got it right between the eyes. We know that

:24:21. > :24:22.

:24:22. > :24:27.Varga is a one-trick pony because he has led out of the water, but he

:24:27. > :24:32.is yet to register a top 10 finish. So he does leave it all in the

:24:32. > :24:39.water. He might get a toe, and you will get some encouragement from

:24:39. > :24:44.Jonathan Brownlee and with the wet conditions, Brownlee will be happy

:24:44. > :24:50.to be in a small pack when they are on the bikes. What they do not want

:24:50. > :24:54.is to be in a group of 25 or 30 heading out on two wheels on the

:24:54. > :25:00.wet roads of Auckland with all the trouble and danger that can ensue

:25:00. > :25:04.on the tight turns on fast descent. He is thinking ahead, Jonathan

:25:04. > :25:10.Brownlee, and if he is going to ride alongside Varga, they can stay

:25:10. > :25:15.out of trouble. This will work in his favour. They head towards the

:25:15. > :25:20.exit of the swim. I could not agree more. It is a conscious decision to

:25:20. > :25:26.get away from the pack. If we think back to what we saw in the women's

:25:26. > :25:32.Olympic race, particularly with the damp conditions, and so many of our

:25:32. > :25:37.top-class athletes going down on the roads because of the conditions,

:25:37. > :25:45.it is a big decision. I am looking at that time now, that is a

:25:45. > :25:55.sensational time! That is a tremendous whim. Less than 17

:25:55. > :26:12.

:26:12. > :26:16.coming out of the water, that is so unzipping his wetsuit. You can be

:26:16. > :26:21.sure Jonathan Brownlee and Richard Varga or will be well into lap

:26:22. > :26:27.number-one by the time and the rest of the group hit transitions. They

:26:27. > :26:34.are making their way, Richard Varga in red and white. Jonathan just

:26:34. > :26:44.behind him. The gap is 32 seconds before we see any sign of a third

:26:44. > :27:01.

:27:01. > :27:11.British contingent. Javier Gomez in 21st position as he exits the

:27:11. > :27:12.

:27:12. > :27:16.swimming stage. Aaron Harris coming through 29 seconds off the pace.

:27:16. > :27:22.There is a scramble and Jonathan Brownlee and Richard Varga are

:27:22. > :27:27.already out of transition and beginning their first lap. The rest

:27:27. > :27:30.of them come into transition to pick up their bikes. We have Kris

:27:30. > :27:35.Gemmell from New Zealand towards the front of that pack. He could be

:27:35. > :27:42.the danger man because he helped to design this particular course. He

:27:42. > :27:46.is very strong on his bike. Richard Murray, who is a great runner is

:27:46. > :27:50.also in the main pack. He is just over a minute down at the moment,

:27:50. > :27:59.but he could get in Saab into contention by the time they get

:27:59. > :28:05.into the third discipline. -- himself. Now we are seeing how

:28:05. > :28:11.tough and difficult the road conditions will be. Will be some

:28:11. > :28:14.big judgment caused by the big pack chasing these two. Jonathan

:28:14. > :28:20.Brownlee and Richard Varga, question is, how long can Richard

:28:20. > :28:25.Varga or stay with Jonathan Brownlee? As Alexander Bryukhankov,

:28:25. > :28:30.the Russian battles his way through the driving rain. Similar

:28:30. > :28:37.conditions to what they had in Stockholm, after the Olympics. A

:28:37. > :28:45.wet day in Sweden, very similar. We are lucky the helicopter can fly.

:28:45. > :28:50.This was the exit at the end of the 1,500 metre swim with Richard Varga

:28:50. > :28:55.and Jonathan Brownlee just behind him. I do like watching Alexander

:28:55. > :28:59.Bryukhankov, he loves putting himself on the line. He will go at

:28:59. > :29:02.it in the swimming and put himself on the line in the bike sections. I

:29:02. > :29:12.don't think this section is suited for him but he will give everything

:29:12. > :29:14.

:29:14. > :29:20.to try to close the gap. This was Jonathan's transitions. Now we can

:29:20. > :29:26.follow the leaders. You can spot for blue and white suit been warned

:29:27. > :29:36.by Jonathan Brownlee. Richard Varga of Slovakia just behind him. Greasy

:29:37. > :29:37.

:29:37. > :29:43.road surface underfoot. There is no use in wearing glasses. These out

:29:43. > :29:46.and backs have to be handled with care. They go really slow as they

:29:46. > :29:52.come round the hairpin bend and head out to an uphill sections.

:29:52. > :30:02.That is what will follow as we get a look at the standings at the end

:30:02. > :30:13.

:30:13. > :30:20.completing the first of eight, five kilometre loops they will ride

:30:20. > :30:27.around the streets of Auckland with climbing, some tricky descents,

:30:27. > :30:33.especially in the wet weather. Two men, keeping out of trouble,

:30:33. > :30:38.forcing the pace at the front of the field. Broke away on the swim,

:30:38. > :30:48.now they are reaping the dividends of that a early moves through the

:30:48. > :31:03.

:31:03. > :31:10.the first lap. Seven to go. And we will get a chase group time check

:31:10. > :31:13.as well. We will be able to see just how far they are behind.

:31:13. > :31:17.Jonathan Brownlee well supported this week, he has a huge family

:31:17. > :31:23.contingent who have made it a trip to the southern hemisphere,

:31:23. > :31:28.including his grandmother who is in the VIP tent, watching the TV

:31:28. > :31:35.screen. Apparently she is taking photos of the television screen as

:31:35. > :31:39.she sees Jonathan coming up. The gap is 22 seconds between Jonathan

:31:39. > :31:44.Brownlee and Richard Barker and the chasing pack. The chasing group

:31:44. > :31:49.that led by Kris Gemmell and Javier Gomez, coming through transition at

:31:49. > :31:55.the end of the first lap. Maybe that is closing a little bit. We

:31:55. > :31:59.saw the chasing pack spread from 30 seconds plus come up to almost

:31:59. > :32:06.double that. They seem to have come together a bit more and close down

:32:06. > :32:12.a few seconds. Still a big gap to close up. A very early stages.

:32:12. > :32:18.are the leaders on their way down the hill. About halfway through the

:32:18. > :32:24.second lap. Lots of support for Jonathan Brownlee. Get straight out

:32:24. > :32:29.of the saddle as he hits the flat. Injects pace into this second lap.

:32:29. > :32:35.So far Richard Varga is matching him. That is what he needs, a

:32:35. > :32:40.companion out there. Richard Varga will fade once they hit the run if

:32:40. > :32:46.they are still out in his front. But Jonathan Meades him to perform

:32:46. > :32:51.in the early stages of this 40 kilometre cycle. -- needs him.

:32:51. > :32:57.Richard Varga is able to stay awake with Jonathan Brownlee, if that two

:32:57. > :33:01.of them can stay, with Javier Gomez putting in a lot of hard work, you

:33:01. > :33:06.have to think the sort of confident Richard Varga will have if he knows

:33:06. > :33:12.he can get into the run with a bit of a cushions will stop all the

:33:13. > :33:19.applause and shouting we are hearing from Jonathan Brownlee is a

:33:19. > :33:29.huge age group who are focused on the triathlon, to take their

:33:29. > :33:30.

:33:30. > :33:40.holidays. I had just found under 23 world champion screaming out for

:33:40. > :33:48.Jonathan Brownlee. Hoping the conditions will play in their

:33:48. > :33:51.favour. David got a puncture didn't he? It's was amazing, he was in the

:33:51. > :33:56.chasing group, but he managed to change his back wheel and get back

:33:56. > :34:00.into the pack. No one knows better how tough it would be in conditions

:34:00. > :34:04.like this, what would be going through the mind? It is pretty bad.

:34:04. > :34:10.The main thing is say before stop they want to get around in one

:34:10. > :34:13.piece without falling off. These corners are slippery. The need to

:34:13. > :34:19.focus on staying on the bike and working together but mainly getting

:34:19. > :34:24.round. The weather conditions are worsening all of the time. Rain

:34:24. > :34:29.levels are approaching torrential. Back with the leaders. We think the

:34:29. > :34:34.helicopter may have finally had enough and headed for home. It is

:34:34. > :34:44.probably a wise decision, in view of the creasing -- increasing wind

:34:44. > :34:45.

:34:45. > :34:48.and driving rain. The leaders, Richard Varga of Slovakia and

:34:48. > :34:54.Jonathan Brownlee of Great Britain, remain it were they have been since

:34:54. > :35:00.they excited the water from the swim, out in front. Now they are

:35:00. > :35:06.hitting the second Hill on this 4th lap of the 40 kilometre bike. The

:35:06. > :35:10.chasing group are just a handful of seconds behind. Richard Varga and

:35:10. > :35:15.Jonathan Brownlee are about to be swallowed up into the main pack.

:35:15. > :35:25.The main pack has shrunk, led by Javier Gomez, with Kris Gemmell in

:35:25. > :35:26.

:35:26. > :35:31.second. They number about a dozen now. Then the race takes on another

:35:31. > :35:35.new complexion the stock so the early leader, Richard Varga, a

:35:35. > :35:40.brave effort to go, also Jonathan Brownlee to cover and stay there.

:35:41. > :35:44.But now we get this pack coming together. Javier Gomez will have to

:35:44. > :35:49.make a decision, because he is in a similar situation to Jonathan

:35:49. > :35:54.Brownlee. However, if he wants to win, he has to make an impact early

:35:54. > :35:59.on because he has to try to run everything out of Jonathan

:35:59. > :36:04.Brownlee's legs. Has to persuade Jonathan Brownlee to go with him

:36:04. > :36:09.and then faltered because he needs a clear positions. He needs to be

:36:09. > :36:14.first of 4th to take the overall title. By the time they get to

:36:14. > :36:18.transition halfway through the bike, there will be one large group

:36:18. > :36:24.formed at the front of the field. Jonathan Brownlee will have to keep

:36:24. > :36:27.himself out of trouble. He has only had Richard Varga to worry about.

:36:27. > :36:34.He will have another 10 riders to concern himself with, including

:36:34. > :36:44.this man, Kris Gemmell, who is getting a warm welcome. The course

:36:44. > :36:59.

:36:59. > :37:03.designer. Steffen Justus of Germany each other. We have lost David

:37:03. > :37:08.McNamee and Aaron Harris, who were in the big group when they came out

:37:08. > :37:11.of the swim. It is an indication the bike pace in the chasing pack

:37:11. > :37:18.has been huge with Kris Gemmell and Javier Gomez doing much of the work

:37:18. > :37:23.at the front too close these two down. Kris Gemmell is now leading.

:37:23. > :37:30.It will be interesting to see what happens. Gomez cannot stay away

:37:30. > :37:38.from that. It for the first four laps of the race, Jonathan Brownlee

:37:38. > :37:48.only had Richard Varga for company. He now has Kris Gemmell. And about

:37:48. > :37:48.

:37:48. > :37:52.another 10 waiting to close the final gap of about 10 metres. The

:37:52. > :37:56.helicopter is back in the air, giving us these shops. I can only

:37:56. > :38:02.assume that means potentially the weather is improving. It does

:38:02. > :38:12.appear from where we are, a little bit brighter. Hopefully those

:38:12. > :38:22.

:38:22. > :38:26.clouds will keep rolling away. Jonathan Brownlee was easier to

:38:26. > :38:32.spot from the helicopter. And he was eager to muscle his way to the

:38:32. > :38:37.front, despite having force the pace almost of this backstage so

:38:37. > :38:42.far. Now he is inviting them through. He is saying, Javier Gomez,

:38:42. > :38:48.take your turn up the front. Maybe he will sit tight at the front of

:38:48. > :38:53.the field and keep himself out of trouble. We have a man down, it is

:38:53. > :38:59.Brendan Sexton from Australia. He is bravely back on his bike and

:38:59. > :39:03.trying to get back involved. Brendan Sexton, amazingly, when you

:39:03. > :39:13.consider the conditions, he is the first man down. That is going to

:39:13. > :39:15.

:39:15. > :39:19.hurt! Brendan Sexton hits the deck in Auckland. I am it with Mark

:39:19. > :39:24.Ayres, the performance coach. It is all one big pack? All the leaders

:39:24. > :39:29.are now at the front, nobody away. The race is from here now with the

:39:29. > :39:34.group. Gomez had been leading the charge to chase Jonathan, what will

:39:34. > :39:37.happen now? All the main protagonists for the series are

:39:38. > :39:41.together. They may just not do anything. They have nobody chasing

:39:41. > :39:47.men close from behind. But they might be some others, like

:39:47. > :39:51.Dougherty, Kris Gemmell, home favourites the one to take the rise

:39:51. > :39:56.on and take it from there. everybody try not to crash, the run

:39:56. > :40:01.will be even more important? Running will be very strange. The

:40:01. > :40:05.fun group has been losing it rider's every time the hills are

:40:05. > :40:09.taking their effect will stop we don't know how much the hills have

:40:09. > :40:16.taken out of their running legs. Some people have gone and ran fast,

:40:16. > :40:20.some have ran very slowly. There is a little bit of hustle and bustle

:40:20. > :40:26.amongst the bikes as they head towards transition at the end of

:40:26. > :40:36.the 5th lap. Kris Gemmell has moved away from the field. Number 16, in

:40:36. > :40:44.

:40:44. > :40:49.his opportunity and he needs to get away from Javier Gomez and from

:40:49. > :40:54.Brownlee. We saw this in the women's race with McIlroy having go

:40:54. > :40:59.up and hitting transition to be warmly welcomed, a sea of faces and

:40:59. > :41:07.a wall of noise as they saw that the first -- saw the first rider

:41:07. > :41:17.through was a local rider. The same will happen for Gemmell. The first

:41:17. > :41:18.

:41:18. > :41:24.man through is a Kiwi. Kris Gemmell leads the Auckland triathlon,

:41:24. > :41:34.Jonathan Brownlee in seconds, Javier Gomez is third. Coming

:41:34. > :41:39.

:41:39. > :41:43.through next, Docherty, then Justus, Fabian, Varga, Tayama, and the word

:41:44. > :41:47.is that the big Russian, Bryukhankov, has quit to. The only

:41:47. > :41:52.other man that could potentially win the world triathlon series

:41:52. > :41:57.title has got off his bike. He has thrown a major tantrum and has

:41:57. > :42:07.walked away from the field of play. That is all we can tell you.

:42:07. > :42:08.

:42:08. > :42:12.Bryukhankov is out of the final triathlon series of the year. Kris

:42:12. > :42:22.Gemmell his first of the out and back. He has a bit of daylight. He

:42:22. > :42:30.has made his break. Brownlee and Gomez keeping clear of one another.

:42:30. > :42:34.Good tactics for Gemmell to stave their. He did some work, but he

:42:34. > :42:38.shared it with Javier Gomez and others. He now has said that this

:42:38. > :42:43.is opportunity when everyone else is falling back, lulled into a

:42:43. > :42:48.false sense of security, this is his opportunity to get away. He

:42:48. > :42:55.seems to met -- to have made a big impact. It is not a token effort,

:42:55. > :43:00.he has put his head down, he is in foil -- in full possession, and he

:43:00. > :43:05.is working hard. He has had some good early-season performances

:43:05. > :43:09.going right the way back to Sydney. He was 7th out there and 10th in

:43:09. > :43:14.San Diego. It has been a while since we saw the best of Kris

:43:14. > :43:20.Gemmell. And then the World Championship finals in your own

:43:20. > :43:28.country, everything, he is giving it everything. The only danger is

:43:28. > :43:33.that if you push it too hard and go over the edge, you start to pay

:43:33. > :43:38.with pain. He has made a statement, he has gone for it, and he will

:43:38. > :43:42.have to start to pull away. If they do catch him, and there is a chance

:43:42. > :43:50.of that, then he is going to have a little bit of a sense of

:43:50. > :43:59.frustration before the run. It is not a bad Gamp that he has opened

:43:59. > :44:06.up. I make it about 16-17 seconds. -- not a bad gap. That is on just

:44:06. > :44:12.one lap! If he keeps his head down, he will take a handy lead into the

:44:12. > :44:19.run and he will be a big danger. Kris Gemmell is leading the Grand

:44:19. > :44:26.Final of the world triathlon series in Auckland as he sweeps downhill

:44:26. > :44:31.towards the Waterside area and the transition to complete his 6th lap.

:44:31. > :44:41.He will be warmly welcomed. Two laps to go for the man in black who

:44:41. > :44:52.

:44:52. > :44:56.has made the break and held the Gemmell and the chasers. They are

:44:56. > :45:02.on their feet and a grandstand. They may be soaking wet but they

:45:02. > :45:07.are enthusiastic about what they are witnessing. They had it with

:45:07. > :45:13.Kate McIlroy in the women's race. It is now Kris Gemmell keeping them

:45:13. > :45:20.interested in the men's competition. The chasers coming through, in

:45:20. > :45:30.second place, Steffen Justus from Germany, then Riederer, then

:45:30. > :45:38.Docherty, then Brownlee, then Gomez, then Jones. Richard Varga is still

:45:38. > :45:47.involved. Kris Gemmell get some energy drink inside him. And he

:45:47. > :45:53.heads on his way. This is the start of lap seven. If Chris is to stay

:45:53. > :46:01.away, he is going to have to get a few extra seconds before Javier

:46:01. > :46:06.Gomez and Jonathan Brownlee. 23 seconds, he has worked hard. They

:46:06. > :46:16.will be thinking about that. When it gets over 30, will we see a

:46:16. > :46:24.

:46:24. > :46:30.water. The pack coming through the triangular section of the course,

:46:30. > :46:34.furthest away from the ocean. It takes them a little diversion along

:46:34. > :46:44.Whinfield Street before heading back on to Queen Street. And back

:46:44. > :46:51.

:46:51. > :46:59.Brownlee who were the two contenders now with the retirement

:46:59. > :47:02.of Bryukhankov. We only have two contenders of the title. Who will

:47:02. > :47:07.become world champion? Jonathan Brownlee still looks favoured

:47:07. > :47:15.because his lead in the standings over Javier Gomez is 180 points,

:47:15. > :47:21.but with 1,200 for a win, 1110 for a second and 1.027th for third and

:47:21. > :47:27.then 950 for a 4th and so on with the increments changing, there is

:47:27. > :47:32.scope for change at the top of the table. And there is a long way to

:47:32. > :47:36.go. We are a quarter rock -- three- quarters of the way through this

:47:36. > :47:43.triathlon and it is Kris Gemmell leading the way. He sweeps down

:47:43. > :47:47.with added speed. The road surface is beginning to dry. We are heading

:47:47. > :47:53.towards the transition area to take the belt to begin his 8th and final

:47:54. > :47:58.lap. He's got good speed and lots of support. There is the bell. Kris

:47:58. > :48:03.Gemmell arrives in transition and grits his teeth as he enjoys this

:48:03. > :48:13.wall of noise. He goes through the hairpin passed the point when next

:48:13. > :48:19.time around he will hang up his bike. So far, 1:19.30 have elapsed

:48:19. > :48:24.for Kris Gemmell in his quest to win this home race in Auckland.

:48:24. > :48:28.time gap on the previous lap was just 23 seconds. We have hit that

:48:28. > :48:34.already so he has made a significant move. He is taking out

:48:34. > :48:38.over half a minute with one lap to play for. There are the tracers in

:48:38. > :48:48.the back. Jonathan Brownlee goes through second. He is followed by

:48:48. > :48:51.

:48:51. > :49:01.Javier Gomez and the Swiss, Riederer. Docherty, then Justus,

:49:01. > :49:06.then the Italian, then Tayama, and the rest. All credit to Kris

:49:06. > :49:11.Gemmell. I hope you will give himself a big lead. And then the

:49:11. > :49:17.chasers will need to chase him down second by second. Kris Gemmell

:49:17. > :49:23.still reading the triathlon. He has put on a courageous display so far.

:49:23. > :49:28.He has got a little bit more work to do on this bike course. He is on

:49:28. > :49:33.the 8th and final lap. He will be heading downhill shortly. And then

:49:33. > :49:37.he will be contemplating his arrival in transition. The chasers

:49:37. > :49:42.have let him get away confident they will be able to close the gap

:49:42. > :49:46.when the run commences. Jonathan Brownlee sweeps through ahead of

:49:46. > :49:56.the chase group. He is closely followed by his main rival Javier

:49:56. > :49:56.

:49:56. > :50:03.Gomez with the Red Helmut. Riederer is also involved. Number 15 is

:50:03. > :50:08.Docherty, the second of the New Zealand athletes. And Richard Varga,

:50:09. > :50:13.who was one of the two men to lead the swim along with Jonathan

:50:13. > :50:19.Brownlee, has stuck to his path, they he is closest to us, and he

:50:19. > :50:26.has remained with this chase group. A good race for Richard Varga so

:50:26. > :50:33.far. I think Richard will be delighted for that. He has worked

:50:33. > :50:38.so hard. He put himself on the line. He put himself on the line. He

:50:38. > :50:43.isn't a great situation going into the run. He has not featured that

:50:43. > :50:53.highly over all, but maybe this is the one. It would be lovely to see

:50:53. > :51:05.

:51:05. > :51:11.man with the Black Strip and the silver helmet, Kris Gemmell. The

:51:11. > :51:21.other rider is a back marker about to be lapped and Riederer is

:51:21. > :51:22.

:51:22. > :51:30.working hard. -- Gemmell is working hard. Sato of Japan will see

:51:30. > :51:38.Gemmell going past him. Now, can he maintains this pace on the final

:51:38. > :51:48.part of this eight slap? And give himself a springboard as he hits

:51:48. > :51:48.

:51:48. > :51:56.the first lap on the run? He has an injection of pace, he will put his

:51:56. > :52:02.running shoes on. Kris Gemmell heading back towards the waterfront

:52:02. > :52:06.with a decent lead over the chasers. How long can he stay out in front?

:52:06. > :52:11.Of this crowd, here in their thousands around the streets of

:52:11. > :52:15.Auckland are hoping he can hold off the attention of the chasers and

:52:15. > :52:20.bring home a victory for the home nation. His feet are out of their

:52:20. > :52:25.shoes. He is out before the dismount line and he splashes

:52:25. > :52:31.through the puddles towards his position in transition. He will

:52:31. > :52:40.pick up his running shoes and head out for the first of four 2.5

:52:40. > :52:46.kilometre lapse. Gemmell parks up his bike and will hope for a smooth

:52:46. > :52:52.and fast transition. That is what he's got. He picks up his cap. It

:52:52. > :53:00.will be soaking wet. He heads on his way out of transition. 10

:53:00. > :53:07.kilometres to go for Kris Gemmell. All eyes on the Kiwi now. He is

:53:07. > :53:14.well on his way before the trees group get anywhere near transition.

:53:14. > :53:19.-- the chase group. Jonathan Brownlee leading them through. He

:53:19. > :53:29.makes no mistake getting off his bike. He heads towards his marker

:53:29. > :53:33.

:53:33. > :53:40.with Javier Gomez and all the rest in close order. There are a total

:53:40. > :53:44.of 12 in this chase group. 13 out on the run so far. Jonathan

:53:44. > :53:50.Brownlee number one in the world, the leader in the standings drops

:53:50. > :53:59.his helmet and sprints away from transition. He is closely followed

:53:59. > :54:05.-- followed and shadowed by Javier Gomez. The clip is stuck on

:54:05. > :54:10.Polyanskiy's helmet. Just a glimpse of Richard Murray coming in the

:54:10. > :54:19.chase pack. He is the strongest run-up on the beauteous circuit

:54:19. > :54:22.along with Brownlee and Gomez. As we saw yesterday, it is not

:54:22. > :54:29.impossible to come through the back and take yourself through, but

:54:29. > :54:33.Gemmell coming through in over a minute's lead. Brownlee leading the

:54:33. > :54:39.pack, but everyone is going to try to stay with him. One whole minute

:54:39. > :54:43.to catch up, that is a huge gap. We have seen the running abilities of

:54:43. > :54:49.jolly along with his brother right through the last couple of seasons

:54:49. > :54:54.so this is going to be fascinating. That was Johnny getting off his

:54:54. > :55:02.bike just before the dismount line. It was a mistake on the dismount in

:55:02. > :55:05.the Olympics that forced him into that 15 seconds stop-go penalty.

:55:05. > :55:11.This was in coming out of transition and this is the man he

:55:11. > :55:16.is chasing next to the motorcycle. Kris Gemmell is our leader from New

:55:16. > :55:23.Zealand. He has kept enough in reserve to give himself a good kick

:55:23. > :55:28.at the start of this run. The gap will be shortening all the time. He

:55:29. > :55:34.hasn't completed the first kilometre yet. Gemmell, it is not

:55:34. > :55:39.long before he has got these guys breathing down his neck. Jonathan

:55:39. > :55:45.Brownlee, gliding down across the road surface in Auckland. Javier

:55:45. > :55:50.Gomez, third over all, with the Swiss, Riederer behind him. They

:55:50. > :55:57.are running as a group. Their target, their prey, is the man in

:55:57. > :56:02.front, Kris Gemmell. I thought we might have seen Justus coming up

:56:02. > :56:09.very fast so perhaps Jonathan Brownlee has seized the initiative

:56:09. > :56:14.and on fast. Let's see what happens with Richard Murray. We think they

:56:14. > :56:22.are 15 seconds behind the chase back. We are with animal not --

:56:22. > :56:32.Kris Gemmell. Just how much fatigue as that taken with that huge effort

:56:32. > :56:46.

:56:46. > :56:50.on the second half of the bike -- Kris Gemmell hits this section.

:56:50. > :57:00.Encouragement from the crowd, they cannot see any of his main rival

:57:00. > :57:00.

:57:00. > :57:08.has yet. I would certainly say Kris Gemmell is running well. No

:57:08. > :57:14.apparent sign of fatigue. He is down! My word, Kris Gemmell down on

:57:14. > :57:18.his knees. I think he is back on his feet quickly. I think he

:57:18. > :57:23.clipped one of the stands at the base of these metal barriers that

:57:23. > :57:29.line the course. He might have a couple of cuts on his knees. He is

:57:29. > :57:37.going along way round, trying to keep himself on course. Had to hang

:57:37. > :57:43.on to a tree. I think it is just a little bit of this orientation.

:57:43. > :57:53.Goodness me. Kris Gemmell suddenly lost his sense of direction.

:57:53. > :57:53.

:57:53. > :57:57.Slipped on one of those pedestrian walkways, I think they are. Then he

:57:57. > :58:04.was disorientated. He should have gone straight out and back around

:58:04. > :58:12.the cones, but headed off and swung himself a round via a treat. Now

:58:12. > :58:22.you can see he has got some company. Kris Gemmell is not going to have

:58:22. > :58:30.this his own way. Jonathan Brownlee, Javier Gomez and Sven Riederer are

:58:30. > :58:37.closing the gap all of the time. That is quite amazing. To get

:58:37. > :58:41.anywhere near on the first lap of 2.5 kilometres, when we have that

:58:41. > :58:45.time difference of just around a minute coming out of transition.

:58:45. > :58:50.Even with the fall from Kris Gemmell, I don't think he lost that

:58:51. > :58:55.much time. I think it was the disorientation, the lack of focus

:58:55. > :59:02.and concentration. Kris Gemmell coming from the top of your screen

:59:02. > :59:08.it to the bottom. Three guys chasing him are now turning. They

:59:08. > :59:14.are closing him. It is no where near a minute, less than 30 seconds

:59:14. > :59:19.coming through now. It is early days in the race. We said Sven

:59:19. > :59:25.Riederer could be one of the danger man, he is such a strong runner, he

:59:25. > :59:29.proved that last year in Beijing. But the two men we have been

:59:29. > :59:36.talking about right the way through, the early leader, Jonathan Brownlee

:59:36. > :59:41.went away with Richard Varga. And now along with Sven Riederer,

:59:41. > :59:51.closing in at this early stage on Chris go Merck -- Kris Gemmell. I

:59:51. > :59:55.

:59:56. > :00:01.will be interesting to see what do runner split is from this. It is

:00:01. > :00:06.unbelievable. It is tremendously fast running. Question is, can Kris

:00:06. > :00:13.Gemmell stay with these three when they are breathing down his neck?

:00:13. > :00:17.It won't be long before they are right behind the Kiwi's shoulder.

:00:17. > :00:27.Kris Gemmell leads the way. The three behind him are Jonathan

:00:27. > :00:27.

:00:27. > :00:35.Brownlee, Sven Riederer and Javier Gomez. We are not too far off the

:00:35. > :00:41.end of the first lap. But to close a minute, well, 40 seconds a mile,

:00:41. > :00:48.that is what are they are doing on one of the best athletes in the

:00:48. > :00:51.world. Truly sensational, worthy of a World Championship final. Head-

:00:51. > :00:56.to-head between Javier Gomez and Jonathan Brownlee this year have

:00:56. > :00:59.been interesting. We all know about the Olympics were Jonathan had the

:00:59. > :01:07.penalty and ended up with the bronze medal with Gomez taking the

:01:07. > :01:12.silver. But in world triathlon series that terms, Gomez has not

:01:12. > :01:20.beaten Jonathan. Jonathan mods first in Stockholm, Gomez was

:01:21. > :01:25.second. In kits build, Alastair one and Gomez was second and Jonathan

:01:25. > :01:32.was third. That are the only other triathlon series races they have

:01:32. > :01:36.taken part in together. Outside that series and the race in America,

:01:36. > :01:42.the big money raised, Gomez was absolutely stunning in that

:01:42. > :01:47.performance. -- big money race. Despite the head-to-head situation,

:01:47. > :01:55.it is too close to call at the moment. Absolutely, at the moment

:01:55. > :02:02.Kris Gemmell has been dropped. It won't be a home win today. Jonathan

:02:02. > :02:08.Brownlee, along with Gomez and Sven Riederer are at the front of the

:02:08. > :02:16.field. Someone who loves Jonathan Brownlee. Heading back towards the

:02:16. > :02:20.water to complete the half-distance on the run. Gomez, Jonathan

:02:20. > :02:26.Brownlee and Sven Riederer are still very tightly bunched. The

:02:26. > :02:34.others are fighting for the minor places. Two laps to go. It is down

:02:34. > :02:39.to a 5,000-metre fought race. Steffen Justus has moved up into

:02:39. > :02:46.4th position. He was third in Hamburg. He is a good runner, he

:02:46. > :02:56.has had some solid results this season. He is in third position,

:02:56. > :03:04.

:03:04. > :03:09.Surrey 4th position here. Ivan Rana is just behind him. Jones has

:03:09. > :03:14.really come through in this race. There is Kris Gemmell, who had the

:03:15. > :03:24.heroics on the bike earlier. He has been passed by endless opponents,

:03:24. > :03:29.including David McNamee you has gone past Kris Gemmell. Javier

:03:29. > :03:37.Gomez at the front of the race. With Jonathan Brownlee on his

:03:37. > :03:47.shoulder. Sven Riederer, last time we checked it was in close. Still

:03:47. > :03:56.

:03:56. > :04:02.is. They have been joined by Raphael. I think he is one lap down.

:04:02. > :04:07.I think Gomez is attempting to force gradually, but there is no

:04:07. > :04:12.impact on Jonathan Brownlee whatsoever. Sven Riederer it is

:04:12. > :04:16.that ungainly style, his head bobbing round, but the cadence is

:04:16. > :04:26.still good. Still on a par with Jonathan and Gomez as they go

:04:26. > :04:27.

:04:28. > :04:33.through. Gomez has moved forward, trying to up the pace. They will

:04:33. > :04:43.all be happy that the torrential rain and the driving wind has eased

:04:43. > :04:43.

:04:43. > :05:23.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 40 seconds

:05:23. > :05:27.sandwich between the Pacific Ocean 32-year-old German. Won the first

:05:27. > :05:37.of the world triathlon series races this year in Sydney, Australia.

:05:37. > :05:39.

:05:39. > :05:46.That was in April. Looking at a rally in Raphael, staying with the

:05:46. > :05:51.leaders. It must be something Steffen Justus can see here. Maybe

:05:51. > :05:56.he is thinking he has can miscalculated. I am not so sure.

:05:56. > :06:02.The rules say you can stay in if you are laps, but maybe we should

:06:02. > :06:05.have a moving away so we are not taking the back that. It is Gomez

:06:05. > :06:10.who has impacted, putting pace in for the first time they have

:06:10. > :06:15.managed to move away from Sven Riederer and Raphael staying

:06:15. > :06:20.backwards and redirect. Raphael moving in front of Sven Riederer. I

:06:20. > :06:27.am not happy seen the way that is developing with Raphael. Gomez has

:06:27. > :06:31.made his move and is covered by Jonathan Brownlee. There is a real

:06:31. > :06:35.kick from Javier Gomez as he came round the left hand. We might see

:06:35. > :06:39.more of that on these various out and backs that they will be

:06:40. > :06:44.negotiating shortly. We will be looking back further through the

:06:44. > :06:49.field. These are runners are about to the lap and they need to move

:06:49. > :06:59.out of the way because the main contenders are coming through.

:06:59. > :07:10.

:07:10. > :07:20.Jonathan Brownlee and Gomez are Brownlee -- leads the Jonathan

:07:20. > :07:27.

:07:27. > :07:32.Raphael has been laughed and he is just going along for the ride. In

:07:32. > :07:38.which case, he should probably ease off and keep out of the way. As I

:07:38. > :07:43.said, I just think it is philosophy, just going against the spirit of

:07:43. > :07:49.the sport. He is taking advantage from two guys who are a mile and a

:07:49. > :07:54.half in front of him. Also it is confusing everybody. The crowd will

:07:54. > :08:00.be thinking he is in third. If we are questioning that, we you have

:08:00. > :08:07.watched this closely. You can imagine what the spectators will be

:08:07. > :08:13.thinking. A slip by Jonathan Brownlee. The third place man

:08:13. > :08:20.coming through will either be Steffen Justus or Sven Riederer.

:08:20. > :08:26.Gomez leads the way. Jonathan Brownlee is second. Sven Riederer

:08:26. > :08:32.is third. There will be some changes in the field. There are a

:08:32. > :08:41.few laps runners coming through transition. They still have a long

:08:41. > :08:51.way to go. He has this -- Steffen Justus is in 4th position. Ivan

:08:51. > :08:53.

:08:53. > :09:03.Rana is next through for Spain in 5th. Akos Vanek has been lap as

:09:03. > :09:03.

:09:03. > :09:08.well. This is were Jonathan slipped. We have seen a bit of that today.

:09:08. > :09:18.He managed to maintain his footing. Gomez and Brownlee are shoulder to

:09:18. > :09:18.

:09:18. > :09:25.shoulder. This is the final lap. Thinking about the implication of

:09:25. > :09:30.the laps runners, to be lapped that early on, you move to the side.

:09:30. > :09:37.Gomez and Brownlee lead for start Gomez has made the impact, he has

:09:37. > :09:47.been working at the front. Gomez and Brownlee involved in A4 to

:09:47. > :09:48.

:09:48. > :09:52.raise. It is for the title. The title is Jonathan's if he finishes

:09:53. > :09:58.for four second. But he wants to come to the southern hemisphere and

:09:58. > :10:05.lead with a victory in the Grand Final. Gomez is taking it to the

:10:05. > :10:15.Yorkshireman. He is responding to everything Gomez throws at him so

:10:15. > :10:21.far. They are deep on the final last of the Auckland Grand Final. -

:10:21. > :10:27.- final lap. That they are shoulder to shoulder. Under two kilometres

:10:27. > :10:33.two runs. It will conclude what has been a magnificent world triathlon

:10:33. > :10:39.series. Began in Sydney, San Diego, Madrid, and then we have the

:10:39. > :10:44.Olympic race in London. Stockholm and Japan followed. It concludes

:10:44. > :10:50.now in downtown Auckland, where we have had everything that nature can

:10:50. > :10:55.throw at us, in terms its of the weather. A squall came through,

:10:55. > :11:01.giving as high winds and torrential rain during the bike. It has dried

:11:01. > :11:06.off now for the final stage, the runs. It looks good as Jonathan

:11:06. > :11:12.Brownlee pits to become the world triathlon series champion for 2012,

:11:12. > :11:17.to make it an unforgettable year for the Brownlee brothers. To add

:11:17. > :11:22.to his silver medal. His brother, Alastair, the Olympic -- Olympic

:11:22. > :11:29.champion. He has moved ahead of Gomez and given himself a couple of

:11:29. > :11:34.metres lead over the Spaniard. They have got this hairpin bend to

:11:34. > :11:39.negotiate. Brownlee takes it with short steps to keep himself up

:11:39. > :11:46.right. Gomez tries to respond. He is not letting Jonathan Brownlee

:11:46. > :11:50.get too far away. We are in the last three-quarters of a mile.

:11:50. > :11:54.Gomez is pushing hard, trying to get away for start recovered

:11:54. > :11:58.strongly by Jonathan Brownlee. Brownlee has gone again will stop

:11:58. > :12:03.is Gomez going to be able to respond? Will we let it come down

:12:03. > :12:13.to a sprint finish. I don't think either of the ones that. They were

:12:13. > :12:25.

:12:25. > :12:31.just push. We are inside the last He closed down Kris Gemmell

:12:32. > :12:40.alongside Javier Gomez and now, here they are, racing for victory

:12:40. > :12:45.in Auckland to conclude the season. Well, Gomez must go again. He is

:12:45. > :12:50.not going to leave this down to a sprint in the last 300 metres so,

:12:50. > :12:55.surely, he must start building and trying to go before they get into

:12:55. > :13:01.that last minute or so of running. He has got to give himself every

:13:02. > :13:09.opportunity. He needs to start moving through and round. Sven

:13:09. > :13:15.Riederer is clinging on to third but Justus is closing the gap. That

:13:15. > :13:19.is the battle for third. This is the battle for victory and for the

:13:19. > :13:25.world triathlon series title for 2012 between Jonathan Brownlee of

:13:25. > :13:29.Great Britain, and Javier Gomez of Spain. Gomez is not finished yet.

:13:29. > :13:38.Brownlee has a glance, he can feel the Spaniard breathing down his

:13:38. > :13:45.neck. He has tried to kick once and Gomez was equal to it. And Gomez

:13:45. > :13:50.comes alongside. He is within... Just a hair's breadth of the leader.

:13:51. > :13:59.They I'll literally step for step on the final stages of the final

:13:59. > :14:08.triathlon of the season. Who has got the final kick to win it? Back

:14:08. > :14:14.to wars -- towards the waterfront and to the transition area, down at

:14:14. > :14:22.Queen's Wharf. They are almost touching each other. Brownlee's

:14:22. > :14:26.right-arm... Left arm and Gomez's right arm are brushing... And Gomez

:14:26. > :14:32.has kicked, he has saved a bit. Jonathan Brownlee has not let him

:14:32. > :14:36.get away. Brownlee is still with a chance of winning this final race

:14:36. > :14:42.but he -- it is going to come down to a dash for the line. Deafening

:14:42. > :14:50.noise. Jonathan Brownlee has got more to offer. He is alongside

:14:50. > :14:56.Javier Gomez. Gomez response once again. Gomez kicks. And Gomez will

:14:56. > :15:03.win it. Brownlee is beaten. He takes the final race of the season,

:15:03. > :15:10.Gomez. He takes it by two seconds! What an incredible finish to this

:15:10. > :15:16.series for 2012 Knapp Gomez wins in Auckland. Brownlee comes second and

:15:16. > :15:21.wins the over all title for 2012. Another stunning triathlon

:15:21. > :15:27.performance from Javier Gomez, another incredible, unforgettable

:15:27. > :15:36.finish at the very highest level. And Sven Riederer has done enough.

:16:30. > :16:37.is used to racing in the wind and rain. It is much cooler in that --

:16:37. > :16:43.in Yorkshire than this. We have got his grandmother up there, too. She

:16:43. > :16:46.has been smiling all the time. How pleased is she to be here? She is

:18:04. > :18:10.I am really happy about that. It was difficult to keep Jonathan out
