:00:56. > :01:01.You us go's Kelvin Hall, for as long as I can remember, the place
:01:01. > :01:11.weighed UK track and field dreams start to take place -- class go.
:01:11. > :01:14.
:01:14. > :01:23.The dreams do not get any bigger. Come on, Kelly Holmes! It is gold!
:01:23. > :01:33.What a comeback for Sebastian Coe! It is Linford Christie! The British
:01:33. > :01:34.
:01:34. > :01:44.captain is the Olympic champion. And Sally Gunnell gets it right and
:01:44. > :01:46.
:01:46. > :01:55.get the gold! And she takes the gold medal! That is the true
:01:55. > :02:01.competitor! That is why he is de Olympic champion. The girl from
:02:01. > :02:11.Belfast has got the gold medal. Mark Lewis-Francis has a chance of
:02:11. > :02:16.glory here! Some great British Olympic moments there. The greatest
:02:16. > :02:22.is probably still six months away. Welcome to the Kelvin Hall for the
:02:22. > :02:29.last time, because as of next year we will be at the Commonwealth
:02:29. > :02:38.Games Indoor Arena next to Celtic Park in the East End of Glasgow. It
:02:38. > :02:47.will be a great venue. We have a great afternoon of athletics in
:02:47. > :02:54.store. But everything playing second fiddle to the start of 2012
:02:54. > :03:00.for Mo Farah. Before the action begins, we will be checking on the
:03:00. > :03:07.progress of Mo Farah and Paula Radcliffe, who have been preparing
:03:07. > :03:13.in Kenya. We will be discussing who might strike gold in London. Be
:03:13. > :03:19.ready the e show it at the television because there are a few
:03:19. > :03:24.interesting predictions from one of the world's great statisticians.
:03:24. > :03:34.And then be UK take on Russia, Germany and the Commonwealth Select.
:03:34. > :03:57.
:03:57. > :04:03.Mo Farah is going in the final Good afternoon to Denise Lewis,
:04:03. > :04:10.Colin Jackson and Steve Cram. We will miss this venue, won't we?
:04:10. > :04:15.we will. I have good and bad memories of this. The 4x 200m debut
:04:15. > :04:19.that I mentioned. But it is time to move on. One thing that will be
:04:20. > :04:25.consistent from this place is the crowds. Everyone will remember how
:04:25. > :04:32.passionate and enthusiastic the crowds are. Colin, if you're going
:04:32. > :04:37.to pick out a greatest moment here, I would probably give it to you.
:04:37. > :04:42.Thank you very much indeed! Mine was by pure chance because I needed
:04:42. > :04:45.a warm-up race before I took got Linford Christie in the 60 metres
:04:45. > :04:53.flat and asked the organisers if I could do the hurdles and ended up
:04:53. > :04:58.equalling the world record of the time. You were never an indoor man.
:04:58. > :05:04.Not so mollycoddled! Cross-country at this time of year. Never ran
:05:04. > :05:10.indoors. But I have always enjoyed being here. We will miss the
:05:10. > :05:16.atmosphere but I am sure it will transfer across to the bigger venue.
:05:16. > :05:20.Like athletics at about 2pm. First we will catch up with the Olympic
:05:20. > :05:30.preparations of Mo Farah and Paula Radcliffe, who had been eight in
:05:30. > :05:38.
:05:38. > :05:44.How do you adapt away from home when you spend so much time away
:05:44. > :05:49.from your wife and daughter? It is not easy, it is really hard. I came
:05:49. > :05:55.here before Christmas. I guess that is what I have to do. It is
:05:55. > :06:00.important but I do proper training so that I can do well. If I think
:06:00. > :06:05.about my opposition, I know they are training as hard as me. If you
:06:05. > :06:12.have a bad race ball a bad session, are you one of these people who
:06:12. > :06:16.take it home with you? I do! Not many of the public or the other
:06:16. > :06:22.people get to see that apart from your loved ones or family. But you
:06:22. > :06:28.learn to deal with that. All around town we see the signs that this is
:06:28. > :06:33.the home of champions. It is quite easy to understand why. It is
:06:33. > :06:40.special. It is nice to do plop training together and to learn from
:06:40. > :06:47.them. That is what I have done. a whole lifestyle and culture here
:06:47. > :06:51.is so dear towards success. That must rub off. Yes, for sure. There
:06:51. > :06:57.are no distractions, it is a small village here. There is no cinema,
:06:57. > :07:06.no going to Boldon, no other staff, it is just hard work, keep grafting
:07:06. > :07:16.and eat, sleep and train. This time he got it right! What a
:07:16. > :07:26.performance! What has the coach done for you? He has done a lot for
:07:26. > :07:28.
:07:28. > :07:32.me. A little bit was missing when I was world champion and that could
:07:32. > :07:37.be the difference between winning the gold medal and coming sixth or
:07:38. > :07:43.seventh. Looking ahead to the Olympic year, 2012, had you been
:07:43. > :07:48.running the Olympic races in your dreams? No way! I didn't even know
:07:48. > :07:52.when the schedule is. Paula had to tell me. It is amazing that you can
:07:52. > :07:58.be so relaxed about something that could be so important in your life
:07:58. > :08:04.and career. A want to do well, the same as everybody else, but I'm not
:08:04. > :08:09.going to go before hand and think, Oh, the Olympics! I want be able to
:08:09. > :08:13.do one race at a time and switch off. I just love the training and
:08:13. > :08:16.doing what I do every day. You have worked so hard for what you have
:08:16. > :08:20.got but in one sense he was fortunate because you're right at
:08:20. > :08:24.the top of your game when the Olympic Games are coming to London.
:08:24. > :08:31.Yes, it is great to be at the top of your game went the Olympics on
:08:31. > :08:34.your doorstep. But a lot can change, a lot can happen. Every race is a
:08:34. > :08:44.different race. I am looking forward to it but I have to keep
:08:44. > :08:48.
:08:48. > :08:56.injury-free empty my feet underground. -- and keep my feet. -
:08:56. > :09:04.- on the ground. It will not be a straightforward race for Mo Farah,
:09:04. > :09:07.he is up against Augustine Choge. Steve, he talked about the
:09:07. > :09:14.influence of his new coach. But probably it is the influence of
:09:14. > :09:20.Kenya that has been most profound. Yes, you are right. That happened
:09:20. > :09:25.in Teddington, of all places. His previous set-up, going back five
:09:25. > :09:31.years, it was only when he moved into the house in Teddington with
:09:31. > :09:35.the Kenyans and saw how simply day approached things. Sometimes we can
:09:35. > :09:40.over complicate things. As he was saying there, the ability to
:09:40. > :09:46.absolutely focus. For endurance athletes it is a lot of boring,
:09:46. > :09:50.grinding work, but you have to do it. Sometimes you do not want any
:09:51. > :09:55.distractions, and he saw how they live their lives, even in London.
:09:55. > :10:02.And then the added advantage of being out there is the benefits of
:10:02. > :10:07.altitude. He is in a good place right now and it is a big year for
:10:07. > :10:11.everybody, but you want to started well. He has chosen well, to come
:10:12. > :10:17.here and run of 1500, run another couple of races, and then I suspect
:10:17. > :10:22.he will go back to Kenya and keep away from our prying eyes. He does
:10:22. > :10:27.seem to be incredibly relaxed to the point when he did not even know
:10:27. > :10:30.when his final was. That is what I like about Mo Farah. He has not
:10:30. > :10:36.been suffocated by the false circuits of what can happen when
:10:36. > :10:39.you become a world champion. He is keeping his feet firmly on the
:10:39. > :10:44.ground and I think that is difficult when you're young and
:10:44. > :10:49.successful. He knows what he wants to do, he wants that gold medal,
:10:49. > :10:53.and he is working hard. He is not playing at it. He genuinely does
:10:53. > :10:58.not look that far ahead. He is concentrating on getting himself
:10:58. > :11:02.fit to run the races. There is not the strict plan that he is
:11:02. > :11:12.following. Yes, the Olympics of there, but he is not focusing quite
:11:12. > :11:13.
:11:13. > :11:23.on that yet. Mo Farah seems to have got his timing exactly bright, but
:11:23. > :11:25.
:11:25. > :11:31.Paula Radcliffe seem to get her timing wrong in 2004 and 2008. --
:11:31. > :11:37.it seemed to get her timing wrong. How does this compare to other
:11:37. > :11:41.places you have trained? It is certainly the highest place I have
:11:41. > :11:47.trained and one of the most inspirational and beautiful places
:11:47. > :11:52.to train. The camp is very good for being able to live that monastic,
:11:52. > :11:59.in a way, training life. There is nothing to do here other than focus
:11:59. > :12:04.on your training, which is what we want. For me, this has been there
:12:05. > :12:09.hardest thing that I have done in my running career. We talk a lot
:12:09. > :12:14.about athletes making sacrifices and the biggest thing has been
:12:14. > :12:19.coming away for these two months stints away from the children. We
:12:19. > :12:24.have got through because I know this is the one year where I want
:12:24. > :12:29.to do that because I want to leave no stone unturned and try to get it
:12:29. > :12:35.right for the Olympics. It helps that my daughter is old enough to
:12:35. > :12:40.understand that and we can talk on line two or three times a day.
:12:40. > :12:48.spoke just before the Berlin marathon. As this, two or three
:12:48. > :12:54.months on, how that went for you. Looking back, I think I run it
:12:55. > :12:58.wrong. I run it too fast. If I had run more even splits, I would have
:12:58. > :13:03.run quicker. I guess to come away with the qualifying time, it could
:13:03. > :13:08.have been a lot worse and it was not. Really, at not satisfied with
:13:08. > :13:14.it but I am OK but that. Just encouraged by the fact that already
:13:14. > :13:20.I feel I am in better shape and I have not by any means even started
:13:20. > :13:25.into the marathon build up. Whatever happens at London 2012, at
:13:25. > :13:31.your status as a role model and inspiration is cemented. I wonder
:13:31. > :13:35.how important that is to you at this stage? The biggest thing for
:13:35. > :13:43.me is that I want be able to finish my career and say that they did the
:13:43. > :13:49.best that I was capable of. I think if I look back, on the track I did
:13:49. > :13:53.do that. Certainly, at the London Marathon, the world record, the
:13:53. > :13:57.Olympic Games is the one that is missing. I know that the chances
:13:57. > :14:07.not as good this time, but it still is a chance and that is what I'm
:14:07. > :14:10.
:14:10. > :14:15.determined to do, to be able to go out there and give it my best shot.
:14:15. > :14:21.She was relatively relax their but the contrast between her and Mo
:14:21. > :14:26.Farah, with an intensity there. Those of us who know Paula, she has
:14:26. > :14:31.always been a meticulous athlete. Every athlete is different and
:14:31. > :14:36.Paula knows that this works for her. She needs to be on top of her game
:14:36. > :14:45.and needs to have her a jerk in plan. It was great to see her
:14:45. > :14:50.looking so relaxed but focused. I think for her to be away from her
:14:50. > :14:56.children, to be making a big change for her, I do not think she has
:14:56. > :15:01.prepared in Kenya before, means that she is going for it. Do you
:15:01. > :15:08.think it is tougher for a mum to be a lot -- away for that length of
:15:08. > :15:14.time than for a dad? She is a fantastic mum, she is very hands-on.
:15:14. > :15:24.I just think she knows what she has got to do. She cannot afford
:15:24. > :15:27.
:15:27. > :15:32.anything different. She has to lay How do you assess where she is at
:15:32. > :15:37.at the moment? She is in a good place. Denise is right. This is the
:15:37. > :15:42.last big thing, if she carries on at the -- afterwards, who knows?
:15:42. > :15:47.She is making opportunities, making sacrifices but she is enjoying it.
:15:47. > :15:50.I know she is loving been in Kenya. The training has been going well.
:15:50. > :15:54.She is enjoying being with the other athletes, not the way she has
:15:54. > :15:59.normally trained. She is missing the kids obviously but she is
:15:59. > :16:02.coping with that. All of us standing here, most of the British
:16:02. > :16:11.public would love her to do very well but the year has started with
:16:11. > :16:16.a bang. The Dubai marathon, five women run under two: 21. She knows
:16:16. > :16:21.that the task ahead of her will be huge and that is why when she goes
:16:21. > :16:27."she wasn't very good in Berlin", part of me is saying she did do
:16:27. > :16:31.well. But she has got to come to London, no problems between now and
:16:31. > :16:37.then. All the training will build, she will run a couple of half
:16:37. > :16:40.marathons in the spring and if they go well. Finger has crossed. Where
:16:40. > :16:45.should she realistically set her sights? She will want to win.
:16:45. > :16:49.Whatever she says, she is thinking gold medal. I think the first party
:16:49. > :16:52.she has to get herself into shape and run under two minutes 20. That
:16:52. > :16:56.will be a benchmark and that is what marathon runner should have to
:16:56. > :17:01.do. The racing bit actually starts sometimes about five miles from
:17:01. > :17:07.home. I know that sounds daft but if she get too wrapped up in
:17:07. > :17:12.targets between now and then, she could put herself over the edge.
:17:12. > :17:17.One step at a time and win some races, build the confidence, we
:17:17. > :17:22.will be building expectations for her but on the day I think, if it
:17:22. > :17:25.all goes well, she will be extremely competitive. If you have
:17:25. > :17:35.just turned on, live athletics is starting at 2pm. The crowd building
:17:35. > :17:39.up. A packed house at the Kelvin Hall, the start some athletics at 2
:17:39. > :17:44.o'clock. We will be loving picking out he will win Olympic gold over
:17:44. > :17:54.the next six months. We will have a discussion now. Based on the
:17:54. > :18:03.
:18:03. > :18:13.world's leading experts, our world It is going to be Campbell Brown
:18:13. > :18:13.
:18:13. > :19:37.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 83 seconds
:19:37. > :19:41.That's a flavour from some of those predictions. Starting with you,
:19:41. > :19:46.Colin. Yohan Blake probably 100 metres. A brave call, I would say.
:19:46. > :19:49.He trains very well with Usain Bolt, they know each other very well. He
:19:49. > :19:54.is the upstart who could upset Usain Bolt's performance but I
:19:54. > :19:59.still think that Usain Bolt is close to running 9.50 seconds. I
:19:59. > :20:04.don't think Yohan Blake is there. Perhaps next round in Rio de
:20:04. > :20:08.Janeiro, he will be. But I think it is too early to call. And Usain
:20:08. > :20:17.Bolt in the 200 metres, not for a controversial? Sticking his neck
:20:17. > :20:19.all of us is that Yohan Blake is there and to be fair, if he had
:20:19. > :20:26.said Yohan Blake in the to run metres, I would have gone without
:20:26. > :20:30.more. After we saw in Brussels last year. And I think I need to have a
:20:30. > :20:37.work with Mark. I was thinking that! I think he hit his head on
:20:37. > :20:42.some of them. Unless he thinks he's going to trip someone up, he has
:20:42. > :20:49.been closeted in the winter too long! He has had a bit off fun with
:20:49. > :20:55.there. And Jessica Ennis down for a silver, how would you see that one?
:20:55. > :21:00.By am not sure about that one. The gold medallist is progressing
:21:00. > :21:04.nicely but I think chess has done enough for me over the past two or
:21:04. > :21:09.three years to make her the absolute favourite -- I think
:21:09. > :21:16.Jessica. She had a wobble last year, we put that behind us but just
:21:16. > :21:21.Ecker is an awesome competitor. I disagree with that. Christine
:21:21. > :21:28.Ohuruogu. That is sticking your neck out. I know she is in great
:21:28. > :21:37.shape. She is fit and healthy but is she going to beat the likes of
:21:37. > :21:42.Allyson Felix? It is a good calls. Interesting call. What I love about
:21:42. > :21:46.Christian's situation, the women's 400 metres has not moved on rapidly
:21:46. > :21:53.cinched she got injured. She will look at it and think if she did
:21:53. > :22:03.what she did in 2008 and get into that shape, 2007 to be fair, it is
:22:03. > :22:03.
:22:03. > :22:13.still an open event. It is a tall order but you can make a case for
:22:13. > :22:17.that. A tall order. You can sort this out afterwards, and Mark.
:22:17. > :22:22.Polly Bleasdale did this last weekend, the third and final
:22:22. > :22:30.attempt at four metres and 87 centimetres. The second highest
:22:30. > :22:35.indoor pole vaulter of all time by the 20-year-old. She won the under
:22:35. > :22:40.23 championships and this is a massive improvement. A short run-up
:22:40. > :22:45.with a junior pole. The mind boggles. What she can do. I have
:22:45. > :22:48.been told that she is planning on moving forward and I think it is
:22:48. > :22:54.delightful with the success. will be in Birmingham in a couple
:22:54. > :23:00.of weeks' time. And she is training apparently on that senior poll.
:23:00. > :23:06.They say that could add 30 centimetres. Yes, in effect! De the
:23:06. > :23:09.mathematics and it is incredible. It is. So much scope to be obtained
:23:09. > :23:13.from going on to the firm and long the pole. She is still young but
:23:13. > :23:17.what is fantastic about Holly and her coach is that they keep it
:23:17. > :23:21.simple. Some coaches try to over complicate that event but she keeps
:23:21. > :23:27.it simple. She is doing fantastically well. Let's see how
:23:27. > :23:30.she progresses. The challenge for her and we saw this last year, she
:23:30. > :23:34.broke the British record and made a breakthrough and suddenly now
:23:34. > :23:38.people will talk about her winning medals, maybe even a gold medal.
:23:38. > :23:43.And here we are in January. We are talking about medals. A long way to
:23:43. > :23:48.go. The competition as good as it was an that the level is only part
:23:48. > :23:53.of the story. Particularly in technical events, pole vault, high
:23:53. > :23:59.jump and so one, anything could happen. Her experience has been
:23:59. > :24:02.very positive from Daegu for example. She may get higher with a
:24:02. > :24:06.different pole but I think the expectation is to be managed and
:24:06. > :24:15.Let's see how she progresses during the summer and she has got a great
:24:15. > :24:20.chance and I am sure that she may be quaking already. Holly wasn't
:24:20. > :24:26.the only great championship, a high jump, Robbie Grabarz made two
:24:26. > :24:31.metres and 34, a personal best. He is competing later against the
:24:31. > :24:36.European champion, Aleksandr Shustov. He beat the silver
:24:36. > :24:38.medallist. Denise, a great breakthrough for him. Yes, set a
:24:38. > :24:44.personal best. Going into the competition in Birmingham
:24:44. > :24:52.previously but bomb attack is a wonderful place to jump. The
:24:52. > :24:59.atmosphere -- but Bogota. He needs to be back up at that performance.
:24:59. > :25:04.The a nice buzzing start to 2012. Yes, and you could get in winter
:25:04. > :25:09.very well and your timing seems to click and now he will test himself
:25:09. > :25:19.right here in Glasgow with a home crowd. That is why the test begins.
:25:19. > :25:23.
:25:23. > :25:28.And Danielle Carruthers in the women's 60 metre hurdles, the
:25:28. > :25:32.women's silver medallist from Daegu and Hannah England, that is the
:25:32. > :25:36.distance she runs that today, 60 metres. British captain today is
:25:36. > :25:42.Helen Clitheroe and Mark Lewis- Francis, can you believe he is
:25:42. > :25:52.nearly 30? And then finally, Mo Farah up against Augustine Choge in
:25:52. > :25:53.
:25:53. > :25:58.And the turn up first and he spoke to fill Jones earlier on.
:25:58. > :26:03.Andy Turner of course and a whole warm-up to go before the warm-up
:26:03. > :26:08.that soft and weak have caught to post warm-up, tell us what your
:26:08. > :26:13.routine is and how it helps. takes me about 75 minutes to warm
:26:13. > :26:17.up. It is a bit older than the youngsters. A few hurdle jumps, and
:26:17. > :26:22.I have got a dodgy Achilles at the moment so I'm doing loads and loads
:26:22. > :26:27.of runs. That is what I do, pretty much every race. Same routine every
:26:27. > :26:31.race. When did the nerves kick in. About an hour ago! The soon as you
:26:31. > :26:36.see the stadium, they are building up. The nerves are jangling because
:26:37. > :26:42.because I don't know where I am but indoors is not my favourite thing,
:26:42. > :26:46.I am treating this as a bit of fun. I don't plan on going to all the

:26:51. > :26:56.tell me how it is from it your perspective? I live in London and I
:26:56. > :27:01.see the stadium being built. It is going to be fantastic but for the
:27:01. > :27:06.time being, I am just trying to kid myself in one piece. A lot could
:27:06. > :27:10.happen so I am trying to keep in one piece., August, my best ever
:27:10. > :27:13.shape hopefully and things going well as they should do. -- when it
:27:13. > :27:18.comes to August. Thank you.
:27:19. > :27:28.JONATHAN EDWARDS: A sell-out crowd here at Kelvin Hall looking forward
:27:28. > :27:34.to seeing Andy Turner. And more athletics over becoming hours. Andy
:27:34. > :27:37.Turner in the men's 60 metres hurdles. And say hello to our
:27:37. > :27:47.commentary team. First of all, Steve Cram.
:27:47. > :27:52.
:27:52. > :27:59.COMMENTATOR: It all starts here for of his training partners has
:27:59. > :28:07.already run 7.66 and I am sure Andy already is thinking about that.
:28:07. > :28:13.Trying to win his first race of 2012. His first major race, he has
:28:13. > :28:19.run a meeting in London last week. There's the line-up. Lawrence
:28:19. > :28:25.Clarke, very familiar training partner for Andy Turner. Just to
:28:25. > :28:27.remind you, Britain, USA, Germany, Russia and the Commonwealth team.
:28:27. > :28:31.Some British athletes will be competing for the Commonwealth team
:28:31. > :28:39.during the afternoon and this is the former world junior champion,
:28:39. > :28:45.three years ago, Konstantin Shabanov, personal best outdoors

:28:56. > :29:04.Clarke. He moved to train with Malcolm Arnold, of course. His
:29:04. > :29:10.group down in Bath last year. Andy Turner coached by Lord Cullen. He
:29:10. > :29:15.really wants to kick off like he did last year. That wonderful
:29:15. > :29:22.bronze medal in Daegu. Taking advantage where others did not
:29:22. > :29:30.perform and that is what this year is all about. Dexter Faulk, equal
:29:30. > :29:34.4th quickest in the world this year. 7.62. And this young man might be
:29:34. > :29:42.someone to watch this summer, he has already run a personal best
:29:42. > :29:52.indoors and pretty quick outdoors as well, 13.31 but he is a big

:30:16. > :30:39.
:30:39. > :30:44.Turner. He had a terrible race there. That is not what he wanted.
:30:44. > :30:49.Lawrence Clarke is pretty happy but it was the young Russian, Shabanov,
:30:49. > :30:53.who got a good start and held off the challenge of the American. Andy
:30:53. > :31:03.Turner will have to have a look at what happened there. That was not
:31:03. > :31:08.
:31:08. > :31:14.what he was expecting. Is he limping? He certainly seems to be.
:31:14. > :31:21.It will be interesting to get his comments up to work. Colin, what
:31:21. > :31:26.was your you on that? Did you see anything that suggests there may be
:31:26. > :31:32.something wrong? He did mention that he is suffering from an
:31:32. > :31:37.Achilles tendon problem. It has bucked him for his whole career. It
:31:37. > :31:43.seems to have given him a little bit of hassle. We will see what he
:31:43. > :31:49.says to fill. He did not explode oak of the blocks. Not as
:31:49. > :31:57.aggressive as we expect him to be. Look at the young Russian, powerful
:31:57. > :32:01.and strong. He took the victory quite comfortably over Dexter Faulk.
:32:01. > :32:11.Andy Turner words into the hurdles and clear sit nicely but he does
:32:11. > :32:12.
:32:12. > :32:17.not drive off it. -- clears it. He clashes the barriers, as well,
:32:17. > :32:20.which makes it difficult when you are carrying a little bit of injury.
:32:20. > :32:30.Let us hope that the Achilles is not going to give him too many
:32:30. > :32:36.problems. How did it feel out there? Every step hurts again, the
:32:36. > :32:42.same thing as last year. Every time I land of the hurdle, I can feel it,
:32:42. > :32:48.and you cannot hold yourself in the right position. So I am warming up
:32:48. > :32:52.but every step is painful. I had injection that I had bustier on
:32:52. > :32:57.Friday, and it has not played it up. I will have to go and see the
:32:57. > :33:01.doctors and get something done because I am not training fully and
:33:01. > :33:06.I am not racing right. It is something you were able to nurse
:33:06. > :33:10.yourself through it last year and had a fantastic end to the yeah, so
:33:10. > :33:15.perhaps you can do the same again. The doctors were really could
:33:15. > :33:20.muster year, they sorted out. As long as I can get the treatment
:33:20. > :33:24.that I need to run pain free, then everything will be fine. I am
:33:24. > :33:29.trying to work on things in a race situation and I cannot do that
:33:29. > :33:39.because I'm always in pain. well soon and thanks for talking to
:33:39. > :33:44.
:33:44. > :33:50.and obviously he needs to go and get that sorted out. Lawrence
:33:50. > :34:00.Clarke with the new personal best, a good start to the years for him.
:34:00. > :34:14.
:34:14. > :34:22.And Shabanov with a personal best that will take the lead. Bianca
:34:22. > :34:32.Stuart currently has the lead. But that jump from Proctor is well be
:34:32. > :34:54.
:34:54. > :35:02.lead. Just awaiting confirmation. Six metres 59, Proctor takes the
:35:02. > :35:12.lead. That was a few minutes ago and we go through to the second
:35:12. > :35:21.
:35:21. > :35:27.round and Shara Proctor is on the be as good, we just wait to see
:35:27. > :35:34.what the distance actually is. Interesting to see that one of the
:35:34. > :35:40.best jumpers in the world, Klishina of Russia, has already had two
:35:40. > :35:47.fouls in this competition. Recently, her coach said she had the
:35:47. > :35:55.potential to break the world record. Certainly, her first round file was
:35:55. > :36:03.close to seven metres. But first she has to get a mark on the board.
:36:03. > :36:11.And Proctor still lead for Great Britain. Representing the USA,
:36:11. > :36:21.Funmi Jimoh. She has been in this event before, a run up on two
:36:21. > :36:35.
:36:35. > :36:45.occasions. Giving herself some on that approach and run through
:36:45. > :37:05.
:37:05. > :37:15.the pit, so will not improve on her Germany. She was well over the
:37:15. > :37:20.
:37:20. > :37:30.board. Shara Proctor still leads after two Ranger of competition. --
:37:30. > :37:54.
:37:54. > :38:04.improvement on her first round packed up to the rafters for this
:38:04. > :38:37.
:38:37. > :38:43.at 16 metres. -- the shortest better luck than Andy Turner did in
:38:43. > :38:53.the event for the men. Adigun, representing the Commonwealth, the
:38:53. > :38:59.African Games champion last year. She now lives in Dallas in the USA.
:38:59. > :39:06.She had a terrible time getting here, it took her over 24 hours.
:39:06. > :39:16.Gemma Bennett, the UK indoor champion last year. She has run
:39:16. > :39:25.
:39:25. > :39:30.particularly out of the blocks. In Brussels last year, Pearson, the
:39:30. > :39:40.world champion, fell and Carruthers came storming through to win the
:39:40. > :39:45.
:39:45. > :39:50.event. Roleder, the European champion of last year. Tatyana
:39:50. > :39:55.Dektaryeva, twice winner at the European team championships.
:39:55. > :40:05.Finished fifth in the world championship final last year. The
:40:05. > :40:41.
:40:41. > :40:48.badly away. Here comes Carruthers, full of aggression! She just gets
:40:48. > :40:58.it on the line. Not too bad a time. She would like to have gone under
:40:58. > :41:02.
:41:02. > :41:06.eight seconds. That came after a very modest start. Carruthers,
:41:06. > :41:11.embracing Adigun, who led for about two-thirds of the race until the
:41:11. > :41:19.American came through at the last minute. A good victory after a
:41:19. > :41:24.modest start. DENISE LEWIS: Carruthers is a strong hurdler and
:41:24. > :41:29.the best part of her race is at the end. The aggression sees her
:41:29. > :41:35.through for this race. Out of the blocks, driving hard. A powerful
:41:35. > :41:40.athlete and she makes the barriers look really simple. She is one of a
:41:40. > :41:44.crop of very talented American hurdlers. Just last years she
:41:44. > :41:49.managed to force her way to the top of the tree, getting that silver
:41:49. > :41:59.medal. The good run from her, very solid and showing the class act
:41:59. > :42:15.
:42:15. > :42:22.race of the season out of the way. Yes, last year was such a long
:42:22. > :42:26.season and I have taken time, taking care of my body, because it
:42:26. > :42:32.is a long season again. What does this tell you ever way you are
:42:32. > :42:42.right now? Pretty powerful. To have a win in my first race, I am happy
:42:42. > :42:47.with it. I'm going to run a couple of races and go back home and train.
:42:47. > :42:53.Are you excited as the rest of Britain about Olympics? I am
:42:53. > :43:03.excited. We had the US trials. That is the hardest part. Hopefully see
:43:03. > :43:07.A nice win there for Carruthers but not such a happy story for Andy
:43:07. > :43:13.Turner. He had this problem with his Achilles and it is still an
:43:13. > :43:17.issue. It is always very difficult. As a hurdler you need to put power
:43:17. > :43:23.through your feet. Every time you touch the floor you are generating
:43:23. > :43:33.power. It is very difficult for him if he has anything hampering his
:43:33. > :43:33.
:43:33. > :43:38.will start to feel that pain and it causes him to make mistakes that we
:43:38. > :43:41.would not expect so early in the race. He is not under that much
:43:41. > :43:45.pressure and he starts to clash with the barriers because he cannot
:43:45. > :43:55.lift himself because all he is thinking about is the pain in his
:43:55. > :43:56.
:43:56. > :44:01.foot and not the technical aspects of the race. Without knowing the
:44:01. > :44:07.intimate details of his medical condition, you have to ask why is
:44:07. > :44:12.he doing an indoor meet so early in the season? He says he is not going
:44:12. > :44:17.to do the world indoors, so what he wanted to do boss see where he is
:44:17. > :44:24.at. Now he knows exactly where he is, he is still carrying that
:44:24. > :44:30.injury. He can go away and think about his strategy in preparation
:44:30. > :44:36.for getting healthy. It is going to be the biggest year of his life. He
:44:36. > :44:40.is the Commonwealth champion, all to play for, do not mess it up.
:44:40. > :44:45.has learnt that lesson today and I would rather he learned it in in
:44:45. > :44:49.January when he still has time to progress, rather than make it in
:44:49. > :44:59.May or June. He could have a chat with the doctors and take it from
:44:59. > :45:13.
:45:13. > :45:22.there. We can go back to the Carruthers winning by a whisker.
:45:22. > :45:32.Dektaryeva and Adigun tied on time, but Dektaryeva got the extra point.
:45:32. > :45:38.
:45:38. > :45:42.STEVE CRAM: Not the great start for This is what is to come, Hannah
:45:42. > :45:46.England and Kim Collins and then Helen Clitheroe, she is the British
:45:46. > :45:56.team captain this afternoon and then, of course, Mo Farah in the
:45:56. > :46:02.
:46:02. > :46:07.women's long jump competition. One of the three of rising stars, Darya
:46:07. > :46:11.Klishina of Russia. Yet to get on the board here. European indoor
:46:11. > :46:18.champion from Paris last year. European Under 23 champion in the
:46:18. > :46:23.summer. Somebody spoken of who could potentially break the world
:46:23. > :46:30.record, hits the board well and sales be on the White mark which
:46:30. > :46:35.indicates the leading Mark. 6.59 which stands at Shara Proctor from
:46:35. > :46:38.round one and that was well beyond that mark. She will be pleased that
:46:38. > :46:44.she got something on the board, plenty of room to spare, giving
:46:45. > :46:51.away a fair amount of distance there. Good elevation and that
:46:51. > :47:01.technique through the air. Sends her soaring out into the lead in
:47:01. > :47:07.
:47:07. > :47:12.confirmation, 6.66, her first competition of the year and she
:47:13. > :47:16.takes first place in this international match. The men's pole
:47:17. > :47:25.vault. Opening his account in this afternoon's competition is Steve
:47:25. > :47:32.Lewis. You saw him in Birmingham last year. He suffered an injury
:47:32. > :47:38.which ended his indoor season back competing indoors competition now.
:47:38. > :47:43.Ba is set at 5.30 metres with his opening vault. It is worth
:47:43. > :47:48.mentioning that his competition started at 5.15 and that was the
:47:48. > :47:58.opening height for Andrew Sutcliffe representing the Commonwealth team
:47:58. > :48:05.
:48:05. > :48:15.athletes lining up for the men's 400 metres. That is two laps of the
:48:15. > :48:21.
:48:21. > :48:27.track. Jamaal Torrance is on the club and he certainly enjoys this
:48:27. > :48:30.event. A tall order here. There he is on the outside. A bronze medal
:48:30. > :48:40.in the European indoors last year, a really good performance on that
:48:40. > :48:47.
:48:47. > :48:56.day. He didn't really translate bronze medal in the world indoors
:48:56. > :49:03.in 2010. World indoor championships this winter, in March rather.
:49:03. > :49:13.Torrance could well be a big part of the 4x400 for the Americans this
:49:13. > :49:18.
:49:18. > :49:23.summer. Miguel Rigau there, with his personal best which is not that
:49:23. > :49:27.good. This man could be a big threat though and had a brilliant
:49:27. > :49:33.lake and the championships, European Championships in Barcelona
:49:33. > :49:40.when he came from 5th to get the lead and the Russian team have off
:49:41. > :49:50.Mark Rooney to win the gold on that occasion. Chris Brown, 33 now. The
:49:50. > :49:57.nearly man of world 400 metres running. And here's the reigning
:49:57. > :50:07.indoor world champion which gives you an indication ahead of Richard
:50:07. > :50:10.
:50:10. > :50:20.Buck. Many capable of running good indoor races. A good quality men's
:50:20. > :50:23.

:50:33. > :50:49.
:50:50. > :50:55.try to get to the front and control but has been passed by Chris Brown.
:50:55. > :51:00.Torrance is way off at the moment so it is Brown setting the pace.
:51:00. > :51:04.Pavel Trenikhin will have a bit of a battle. Pavel Trenikhin sitting
:51:05. > :51:10.on the shoulder of Brown. The Russian go straight past and Bram
:51:10. > :51:15.looks like he maybe could miss out on the first 200. Richard Buck
:51:16. > :51:19.looking for a bit of room but Pavel Trenikhin looking strong and
:51:19. > :51:24.powerful in the home straight. Richard Buck is in third place at
:51:24. > :51:27.the moment but it is all about Pavel Trenikhin. He wins it for
:51:27. > :51:34.Russia and Torrance came through second ahead of Brown and then
:51:34. > :51:38.Richard Buck in 4th place. 44.68 -- 46.60 it, third quickest in the
:51:38. > :51:43.world this year. That is not the story of the race, it was the
:51:43. > :51:47.manner of his win. Sat back, that Brown take the first 200 and then
:51:47. > :51:51.attack straight away. He did not hang around. And kept going away
:51:51. > :52:00.from the rest of them. Absolutely nothing they could do about that.
:52:00. > :52:04.Richard Buck, 4th place. A solid run I guess but Russia with this
:52:04. > :52:09.man. You think of Cruz not as well. They have developed some good 400
:52:09. > :52:15.metre runners as well. They will certainly have a good 4x400 team,
:52:15. > :52:19.the summer. And Chris Brown will look back on this and think I could
:52:19. > :52:23.not respond and the Russian just kept on going. Richard Buck
:52:23. > :52:27.languishing back in last place but made up a place coming into the
:52:27. > :52:33.home straight. But what a good victory by Pavel Trenikhin,
:52:33. > :52:35.lifetime best for him. Chris Brown had no response. Remember, he is
:52:35. > :52:41.one of the best in the world. Richard Buck coming through into
:52:41. > :52:48.4th place and this guy really motoring. You can easily imagine
:52:48. > :52:58.him running below 45s by the summer. He is tall, lean and a very strong
:52:58. > :53:00.
:53:00. > :53:10.as what running. -- running of the low 45s. The has already run a 45
:53:10. > :53:11.
:53:11. > :53:14.indoors beating the 800 metres specialist. That was worth about 49
:53:14. > :53:23.but today is a really good performance. 4th place went to
:53:23. > :53:28.Richard Buck. Let's find out what Richard, you always give it your
:53:28. > :53:33.best, how would you assess the race? World champion, world bronze
:53:33. > :53:36.medallist. It is good to be in that field. The first race is always
:53:36. > :53:40.hard so it is good to get it under my belt and move on and get faster
:53:40. > :53:44.races. Going into the unknown somewhat at the start of every year,
:53:44. > :53:49.you put in the hard work and training and meant to reflect on
:53:49. > :53:53.the track. Definitely. Things have been going well in training so I
:53:53. > :53:59.have no doubt I will get faster and hopefully it will come together
:53:59. > :54:03.better for me. The immediate goal targeting the world indoors? Yes,
:54:03. > :54:13.and 20 told on everybody's mind. course, a little case of the
:54:13. > :54:17.
:54:17. > :54:25.Olympics! We wish you well, good competition. Steve Lewis looking at
:54:25. > :54:30.his third and final attempt at 5.30 metres. Clearly has greater
:54:30. > :54:34.ambitions than this. A spot of pressure then. Does he have a good
:54:35. > :54:40.response? The Commonwealth Games silver medallist. He gets it, goes
:54:41. > :54:45.clear. And just a spot of relief suggested in that expression which
:54:45. > :54:49.means he put himself under a fair bit of pressure facing a third time
:54:49. > :54:55.clearance in a relatively modest height. He has already got 5.50
:54:55. > :54:58.metres under his belt this season. The competition just a few days ago.
:54:58. > :55:04.Managing to fight his way over the bar with plenty of daylight
:55:04. > :55:10.suggesting that it was just a technical thing why he did not get
:55:10. > :55:15.it right on the first two occasions. That was a huge sigh of relief as
:55:15. > :55:22.his coach, the lead coach down at the Lee Valley centre on the east
:55:22. > :55:27.side of London. Certainly worth pointing out again but the young
:55:27. > :55:35.Sutcliffe representing the, well, he has gone clear at 5.30 as well.
:55:35. > :55:45.A personal best and the win for the Russian. Richard Buck just held on
:55:45. > :55:48.
:55:49. > :55:52.too much as far as the overall match is concerned that Russia now
:55:52. > :56:02.one point ahead of the United States and Britain still
:56:02. > :56:06.
:56:06. > :56:16.languishing in 5th with just four are in round four. Shara Proctor

:56:31. > :56:37.currently has her in second place Klishina? It does not appear to be
:56:37. > :56:44.an improvement on her around one effort. No improvement for Proctor
:56:44. > :56:54.in the 4th round. Giving away acres of space on the board, a mammoth 16

:57:32. > :57:38.and that is an improvement once more, Darya Klishina and her first
:57:38. > :57:43.indoor competition of this season. Really rounding into form nicely.
:57:43. > :57:50.She has gone seven metres outdoors but her best indoors, 6.87. That
:57:50. > :57:54.could be approaching that type of distance. Sadly those two early
:57:54. > :58:00.fouls were a bit of a wake-up call for Darya Klishina. She came up
:58:00. > :58:04.down the runway like a startled rabbit producing extra speed. Much
:58:04. > :58:10.more speed than we have seen so far this afternoon and that looks like
:58:10. > :58:13.it is long. It is, an improvement once more like nine centimetres.
:58:13. > :58:23.6.75, she extends her lead and underlines her position in first

:58:42. > :58:50.place. Next event on the track, the of points. There's the European
:58:50. > :59:00.silver medallist, good prospect last year. Her first race over 400

:59:43. > :59:47.of these athletes have run a 400 metres race doing 2012. There is
:59:47. > :59:52.Natasha Hastings, winner of eight gold medals across various World

:01:22. > :01:40.
:01:40. > :01:49.Hastings and Cremer. That has done going wide. Russia get first, USA
:01:49. > :01:56.second. 53.52, not particularly fast. It gives you an idea of the
:01:56. > :02:04.quality of the Russian athlete. The Russian winning here and they hold
:02:04. > :02:10.one and two in the world rankings this year. Shana Cox, a few of the
:02:10. > :02:15.potential that she has, led for 370 metres of that race, only to be
:02:15. > :02:25.overtaken in the home straight. This had a early-season race
:02:25. > :02:28.
:02:28. > :02:34.Britain all over. People struggling with where they were. Hastings was
:02:34. > :02:42.sent back and had to run wide around everybody. Look at Shana Cox,
:02:42. > :02:48.she looks in control, but she looks a bit heavy. If you're not in shape
:02:48. > :02:55.at this time of year it will catch you out in the last 50m. They let
:02:55. > :02:59.it all the way open for the Russian, Terekhova, to sneak through on the
:02:59. > :03:06.inside. She is probably the only one who can hold her head up high
:03:06. > :03:13.there. Cox looks relaxed in the face but it was a bit ponderous for
:03:14. > :03:23.me. And Hastings messed it up at the end of the first lap. Shana Cox
:03:24. > :03:30.
:03:30. > :03:34.is now with a foul. -- Phil. I wish I could have finished a bit
:03:34. > :03:39.stronger. I was happy with the beginning of my race. The first
:03:39. > :03:44.race of the year. It is a real test to come out here for the first race
:03:44. > :03:49.of the season and no what you have to work on from here on. I like
:03:49. > :03:52.where I am right now. I had been told that this track was a little
:03:52. > :03:56.tricky and because of the turns, but you have to deal with those
:03:56. > :04:03.things when you are competing in different areas. I think they did
:04:03. > :04:08.OK with that. Is the world indoor championships on your radar? It is.
:04:08. > :04:18.I would love to go to Turkey and compete. Hopefully, couple of weeks
:04:18. > :04:42.
:04:42. > :04:49.from now, that is where I will be. to the match position but Russia
:04:49. > :04:54.have extended their lead by a single point. The Russians have had
:04:54. > :04:58.three personal bests, so they have certainly come in good form and
:04:58. > :05:07.that is probably because they have had quite a few meetings already in
:05:07. > :05:15.Russia looking very good. They have come here and they mean business.
:05:15. > :05:21.Strong performances. They have a cash incentive, going into Olympic
:05:21. > :05:26.Games, Echenique great performances there. Big money, probably after
:05:26. > :05:34.million from these big Russian moguls that we have living in
:05:34. > :05:40.London. Shana Cox gave a pretty decent the Kate of herself by she
:05:40. > :05:46.should have shut off but inside lane. Absolutely. I think she ran
:05:46. > :05:53.very well but just here she should have closed down the gap. Showing a
:05:53. > :05:59.little bit of inexperience. But she is looking strong. A good solid
:05:59. > :06:06.performance. And she has been working well in training. I think
:06:06. > :06:13.it could be a fantastic partnership. Clearly, she is a good, strong
:06:13. > :06:18.training partner for Christine Ohuruogo. I think probably the
:06:18. > :06:25.American would have won that bid she had not been tripped by the
:06:25. > :06:28.bell. She was coming through very strongly but that is the nature of
:06:28. > :06:34.400m running indoors. You have these little dispute with your
:06:34. > :06:43.fellow athlete. One of the highlights coming up next, Hannah
:06:43. > :06:48.England in the 1500m. She has been out in Kenya at the training camp.
:06:48. > :06:54.You what accustomed to live here. What benefits do you get from a
:06:54. > :07:02.month or five weeks here? It is well documented, the physiological
:07:02. > :07:07.effects of being at altitude. It is tough, the terrain and a lifestyle,
:07:07. > :07:10.and it toughens you up and make you a better athlete. Everybody talks
:07:10. > :07:16.about the lifestyle of the Kenyan athlete which is completely devoted
:07:16. > :07:21.to their sport, and that rubs off. It is brilliant to get away from
:07:21. > :07:26.perhaps the Western culture that we are more dues two. Even as a full-
:07:26. > :07:31.time athlete, there are a lot of distractions at home. You come here
:07:32. > :07:37.and it is just 100% training. being around the place, they call
:07:37. > :07:41.it the home of champions and it is easy to feel that. It is, they have
:07:41. > :07:45.such an enthusiasm for athletics here. All the little kids just love
:07:46. > :07:50.it when you run around. Every now and then you get to see one of
:07:51. > :07:55.those famous Kenyan champions and it is inspirational. We are into
:07:55. > :07:59.the Olympic year, a terrific year at last year for you. What are your
:07:59. > :08:05.thoughts? I am really excited and I have a week now until my first race
:08:05. > :08:09.and cannot wait to start 2012. silver medal was a massive shock. I
:08:09. > :08:15.wonder what it has done to her expectations for this year? She is
:08:15. > :08:19.not getting much attention. That is a good thing. She can going and
:08:19. > :08:26.prepare just as she sees bed. It was a surprise medal and a much
:08:26. > :08:30.deserved one for a very lovely girl. She has gone to Kenya and said that
:08:30. > :08:35.me eat, sleep and breathe by training, and see what that brings.
:08:35. > :08:40.I think there is still a lot come from Hannah England. She has this
:08:40. > :08:45.win to develop because you have the likes of Mo Farah and Dai Greene,
:08:45. > :08:50.all these big names, and yet she is the silver-medallist and can come
:08:50. > :08:55.in under the radar. I like the freshness of Hannah England. Every
:08:55. > :08:59.time you hear the speech, she sounds very enthusiastic. She does
:08:59. > :09:05.not put herself under too much pressure, she says this is what I'm
:09:05. > :09:10.capable of doing a number to work hard and get to the top of my game.
:09:10. > :09:20.I wonder sometimes if she goes to bed and thinks I could have snuck
:09:20. > :09:21.
:09:21. > :09:31.that gold! She has not got any easy start this afternoon. Charlene
:09:31. > :09:37.
:09:37. > :09:47.are in the final round of the women's long jump. Only Shana Cox
:09:47. > :10:03.
:10:04. > :10:13.can reel in the leader -- Shara first round effort. It moved up to
:10:14. > :10:22.
:10:22. > :10:32.fourth place in the UK all-time No improvement for Proctor, second
:10:32. > :10:43.
:10:43. > :10:47.debut in 2011. She has just completed her university study. A
:10:47. > :10:54.red flag for that one. But she wins the competition with her fourth
:10:54. > :10:59.round effort. Considering that is her first competition of the indoor
:10:59. > :11:07.season and she had surgery after last season, she is looking pretty
:11:07. > :11:17.good for this Olympic year. By Fred Fred, winner of the long jump --
:11:17. > :11:43.
:11:43. > :11:47.Commonwealth team. I think this is an event where we have such
:11:47. > :11:52.strength in depth. Anybody who wears the British best in the
:11:52. > :11:56.Olympic arena will have the opportunity to get a medal, just as
:11:56. > :12:01.Hannah England did at the world championships last year. Certainly
:12:01. > :12:04.one of the more popular members of the team and she will want to do
:12:04. > :12:11.well indoors. Last season she started well but did not run
:12:11. > :12:15.particularly well in the World Indoor Cham kinships. For Charlene
:12:15. > :12:19.Thomas, a superb run in the European team championships and
:12:19. > :12:23.then injury put an early stop to her season. She has been training
:12:23. > :12:32.well in Kenya with Hannah England and the other English endurance
:12:32. > :12:42.athletes. Maracheva will be a danger in this race, she has a good
:12:42. > :12:53.
:12:53. > :12:57.800-metre pedigree. Krebs, from Germany, has run... The best
:12:57. > :13:01.performance for Moser indoors would go back to the world championships
:13:01. > :13:06.in 2006 but she has been the American champion of a few
:13:06. > :13:13.occasions. He really experienced indoor runner. An intriguing first
:13:13. > :13:17.race of the year for Charlene Thomas and Hannah England. It will
:13:17. > :13:22.be interesting the way that they will approach this. They have been
:13:22. > :13:27.watching each other in training. It is one of the interesting dynamics
:13:27. > :13:32.of the camp that we have out there, a lot of the athletes are almost
:13:32. > :13:35.keeping an eye on each other. Charlene Thomas has got a good
:13:35. > :13:40.finish but Hannah England has shown that there are not many people
:13:40. > :13:50.quicker than her. She is deceptively quick in the last 150
:13:50. > :14:00.metres. Tactics, as ever, all important in the 1500m. The first
:14:00. > :14:00.
:14:00. > :14:05.200m completed in her modest that J 0.0 J. Hannah England just on the
:14:06. > :14:15.shoulder of Moser of the USA. Charlene Thomas quite happy at the
:14:16. > :14:19.
:14:19. > :14:24.moment to sit at the back. Six laps to go. Certainly, Hannah England,
:14:24. > :14:28.we heard her in conversation and every time week hear her we think
:14:28. > :14:33.what an easy-going woman she is but she has a steely determination
:14:33. > :14:40.which took her to that silver medal and hopefully more on this in the
:14:40. > :14:47.future. Surely she has a great future in front of her. Happy to
:14:47. > :14:53.run in 4th place at the moment. first lap was buried slow indeed
:14:53. > :14:56.other well not bother the two British girls. I still think Hannah
:14:56. > :15:01.England is still quite underdeveloped in the sense of her
:15:01. > :15:04.training and she has gradually been building up her strength and her
:15:04. > :15:09.endurance background. As she continues to do that she is only
:15:09. > :15:15.going to get better. She has a good racing brain are most of the time.
:15:15. > :15:21.She knows how to win races. As I said, the tactics are crucial in
:15:21. > :15:31.the 1500m. Charlene Thomas, at the moment, keeping an eye on Hannah
:15:31. > :15:43.
:15:43. > :15:46.this point. Charlene getting a bit nervous. 3.5 laps to go and the
:15:46. > :15:51.atmosphere in this stadium, absolutely outstanding. Charlene
:15:51. > :15:59.Thomas making her first move in the race, goes past England, trying to
:15:59. > :16:05.go past the American, Treniere Moser. Denise Krebs but all I seven
:16:05. > :16:08.Hannah England goes into the lead. England made the first move and
:16:08. > :16:14.took everybody by surprise but not a big move, just an injection of
:16:14. > :16:18.pace but not the full cake and the Russian will be a danger. Irina
:16:18. > :16:28.Maracheva got a bit of a nudge from Denise Krebs there. Hannah England
:16:28. > :16:32.has to hold this. Hannah England does not want to lose the advantage
:16:32. > :16:39.with two laps to go. Denise Krebs is back inside her and realises she
:16:39. > :16:46.will not get past her at this point. Charlene Thomas stretched. 500
:16:47. > :16:50.metres to go. -- 300 metres to go. This crowd will lift the roof off
:16:50. > :16:54.this place if Hannah England can stay in first place. She is looking
:16:54. > :16:58.very sharp fall this time of the year. We know how much endurance
:16:58. > :17:03.work she has done but this is a real show of speed and Denise Krebs
:17:03. > :17:09.of Germany still going with her. This is really good from Hannah
:17:09. > :17:14.England. A big injection, she ran a 30 seconds 200 metres. She has
:17:14. > :17:16.kicked again but this is good from the German athlete, Denise Krebs.
:17:16. > :17:21.You would expect her to challenge England but she still looks strong.
:17:21. > :17:25.The German girl is looking behind, Charlene Thomas is fading but it is
:17:25. > :17:28.all about Hannah England. She will hang on. The crowd are doing their
:17:28. > :17:35.best to lift her. Denise Krebs is attacking her on the outside, it
:17:35. > :17:40.will be tight! Just losing I think. The dip at the end was an attempt
:17:40. > :17:45.to try to snatch it. The German girl is looking to her coach at the
:17:46. > :17:50.side asking if she won it. The smile is meaning she thinks so. The
:17:50. > :17:53.tightest of margins. Hannah England did not do too much wrong there.
:17:53. > :17:57.First race back, he will always be a bit rusty but I thought that was
:17:57. > :18:02.a pretty strong performance from her. She really tried to take on
:18:02. > :18:06.everybody. The crowd are cheering. Paul, sort this out because I
:18:06. > :18:11.can't! I think the German just got it. You could be forgiven for
:18:11. > :18:14.thinking that Hannah England was coming back at her over the last 15
:18:14. > :18:20.metres but coming into the home straight, Hannah England was
:18:20. > :18:25.leading. You will not get it from this angle but if we go around to
:18:25. > :18:32.the finish line we will get a good idea as to who won it. Everybody
:18:32. > :18:37.thought it was Denise Krebs but Hannah England showing that her
:18:37. > :18:45.year has got to a good start. Denise Krebs just with the lead got
:18:45. > :18:49.it. A very good run by both athletes early in 2012 and shows a
:18:49. > :18:52.huge amount of promise for Hannah England. Charlene Thomas as well in
:18:52. > :19:02.the background running for the Commonwealth, a good start to her
:19:02. > :19:07.
:19:07. > :19:17.should focus on. She was stronger did not quite have it at the very
:19:17. > :19:19.
:19:19. > :19:27.end and certainly she would not want to be beaten come the summer.
:19:27. > :19:33.She was pipped on the line. A slow race in terms of the overall time.
:19:33. > :19:43.Hannah England losing out by two hundredths of a second. Charlene
:19:43. > :19:44.
:19:44. > :19:49.Thomas lost third place and that PHIL JONES: Always agonising to
:19:49. > :19:55.lose by such a short margin. It was a lot of fun. I didn't get to do my
:19:55. > :20:00.race time because they did not want to go that La, I was back in 5th.
:20:00. > :20:03.It was not a good place to be an so I thought I would just go. I had to
:20:03. > :20:08.hold of Denise off earlier and in the home straight, I have not got
:20:08. > :20:12.an awful lot of speed but I have been training in Kenya but I am
:20:12. > :20:19.excited about running the trials in Sheffield in two weeks. And
:20:19. > :20:26.Birmingham after that. Happy I can beat Charlotte. It is it better to
:20:26. > :20:31.run in Kenya? It is a lot flatter. It is good. What about the overall
:20:31. > :20:35.excitement about your prospects for this year at the Olympics, how much
:20:35. > :20:39.are you having to 10 per them at this point? I am trying not to
:20:39. > :20:49.tamper them. It is such a good thing to be a part of -- 10 per
:20:49. > :20:55.them. I am so excited. Well done and may there be many more
:20:55. > :21:01.successes. JONATHAN EDWARDS: Consensus, a very
:21:01. > :21:09.good start. Yes, Hannah coming through and winning -- nearly
:21:09. > :21:12.winning that. Clearly she has been at altitude, she has got a lot of
:21:12. > :21:15.strength and could she have approached that perhaps better in
:21:15. > :21:24.the second lap? I don't know but either way, good performance.
:21:24. > :21:30.nice to see her embracing 2012, she will enjoy it. But not trying to
:21:30. > :21:34.put too much pressure on but you must remember that athletics is
:21:34. > :21:39.always about the individual athlete and how they approach it is very
:21:39. > :21:43.important as an individual. said in her interview with Phil,
:21:43. > :21:48.she is not as sharp as she would like to be put when you are in good
:21:48. > :21:51.shape you can get your sharpness and get that eventually. She is not
:21:51. > :21:54.too worried which is the great thing. She has got a great spirit
:21:54. > :21:58.and she does not seem too disappointed which is perfect.
:21:58. > :22:08.Absolutely, and looking at the end of the race there. The German,
:22:08. > :22:09.
:22:09. > :22:14.Denise, just have the strength to take across the line. She had to
:22:14. > :22:18.change her tactics. He S. But what you need and what all these
:22:18. > :22:23.athletes lead is enough experiences under your belt to know how to cope
:22:23. > :22:29.under the intense pressure in the Olympic Games. The main a BA
:22:29. > :22:34.championship distance any more but we have got a man's 200 metres and
:22:34. > :22:38.Kim Collins spoke to Phil Jones earlier on doing warm-up.
:22:38. > :22:42.PHIL JONES: We are in the warm-up area with Kim Collins, familiar
:22:42. > :22:47.face. Tell me about your excitement, being here in Britain, first event
:22:47. > :22:52.of the year. It is very exciting. It is always great to come to
:22:52. > :22:59.Glasgow for this match. USA, Great Britain and as well as Russia,
:22:59. > :23:04.Germany, we have all, over to see what we have got. Tell me about
:23:04. > :23:11.this particular area as far as you are concerned, preparing for a race.
:23:11. > :23:15.What kind of routine do you have? short distance so it does not take
:23:15. > :23:20.that long but it is very difficult because the temperature, coming in
:23:20. > :23:23.here it is great for me, a smaller space but I try to make sure I get
:23:23. > :23:28.it done. Your mum of the most relaxed people around, a bit of
:23:28. > :23:32.edge but not from you. I have been doing it so long. We all get
:23:32. > :23:42.nervous but you don't have to show it. Don't let them know you wonder
:23:42. > :23:49.this! We will speak to you later, the most popular athletes and the
:23:49. > :23:59.way he goes, he starts in lanes 34 this event. The rarely run them's
:23:59. > :24:10.
:24:10. > :24:14.200 metres indoors. Not part of the off to a very good start and only
:24:14. > :24:18.finished 4th in this event but then he went on to have one of the most
:24:18. > :24:28.successful seasons he has ever had. Danny Talbot, the UK indoor

:24:56. > :24:59.Games champion and amazingly a sprint finalist at three Olympics
:25:00. > :25:03.and four World Championships, 35 years old but he has still got a
:25:03. > :25:13.huge zest and enthusiasm. For track-and-field.
:25:13. > :25:13.
:25:13. > :25:17.anybody being introduced to this crowd. And it Talbot, first came to

:25:27. > :25:27.
:25:28. > :25:36.200 metres. And has been called the true British rocket. He ran a
:25:36. > :25:46.substantial personal best. And Calvin Smith, his former coach, for
:25:46. > :25:51.father, twice a World champion. This guy specialises at four and
:25:51. > :25:56.metres but he is also good at the shorter distance. Some real class
:25:56. > :26:06.opposition thought Danny Talbot. Great Britain still looking for the
:26:06. > :26:13.
:26:13. > :26:23.Kim Collins in the picture now has got the Briton in his side. -- in
:26:23. > :26:28.
:26:28. > :26:33.Kim Collins as always, a brilliant start of. Absolutely flying down
:26:33. > :26:37.the back straight. Calvin Smith trying to hold his position on the
:26:37. > :26:47.outside, Danny Talbot just ahead. What hu there's going to be if
:26:47. > :26:54.
:26:54. > :27:02.Collins can win this one. Can Danny in Kelvin Hall. 21.17 the winning
:27:02. > :27:08.time. Tremendous performance by Danny Talbot. His first
:27:08. > :27:14.international victory and his coach Dan Couzins will be absolutely
:27:14. > :27:18.delighted with that. I don't think it will just be his coach, a great
:27:18. > :27:23.run by him. Really nice control. Did not panic at all when Kim
:27:23. > :27:30.Collins came up to him very quickly indeed. But coming off a very good
:27:30. > :27:34.60 metres, 6.73 he ran it earlier. Obviously he is feeling very
:27:34. > :27:39.confident. He is, remember, the UK indoor champion and you can see
:27:39. > :27:44.clearly why here. No panic whatsoever. Kim Collins explodes
:27:44. > :27:47.onto his shoulder and you can see there himself, Danny keeping
:27:47. > :27:53.composure and moving alongside Calvin Smith. Pushes into this,
:27:53. > :27:58.because now he can use the impetus of the curve to just come past him
:27:58. > :28:03.Collins. He uses this very well indeed. Comes down the gradient
:28:03. > :28:09.smoothly, cleanly and takes a good, clear victory. Great performance.
:28:09. > :28:14.That was not just close in the end, he won it comfortably and shows a
:28:14. > :28:24.lot of promise. Lot of promise indeed. Great young man and he
:28:24. > :28:29.

:28:48. > :28:57.
:28:57. > :29:02.and Kim Collins in second place PHIL JONES: That is hardly fair, he
:29:02. > :29:06.has got 15 years on you! It was a great race and as much as you want
:29:06. > :29:11.to win it, you never know what will happen. You got a great cheer at
:29:11. > :29:16.the beginning. The best of the day so far. I had to come back in the
:29:16. > :29:19.60 and do well for. We will the to go back and get ready. Thank you
:29:19. > :29:26.for the entertainment so far. And we can bring in the winner, here he
:29:26. > :29:31.is. Congratulations, tremendous performance. What a scalp to take.
:29:31. > :29:36.Definitely. Such an honour to be on the track with him. In sprinting
:29:36. > :29:42.and athletics in general, he is a legend. What a good atmosphere,
:29:42. > :29:46.were you able to feed off that? and the cheer for Hannah England, I
:29:46. > :29:49.thought we could use this. Home advantage now. Let's use it.
:29:49. > :29:55.Obviously this is not a championship event, the 200 metres,
:29:55. > :29:58.but what about your goals for the year ahead? The main goal is
:29:58. > :30:02.obviously the Olympics. Qualification in summer and then we
:30:02. > :30:12.move on from there. We wish you well for that and congratulations,
:30:12. > :30:21.
:30:21. > :30:30.great entertainment for of thank up the table. But the Russians
:30:30. > :30:36.A great performance and a bit of surprise, but he looked incredibly
:30:36. > :30:44.strong. What a fantastic run. The Olympic year, you just want to see
:30:44. > :30:53.these youngsters thinking, just maybe I can get out there and
:30:53. > :30:59.really take a British best. Collins was the class act in that field and
:30:59. > :31:05.went off showing all his 100-metre strength. But he held his own and
:31:05. > :31:11.came off the bend brilliantly. He used the momentum and accelerated
:31:11. > :31:16.away. That transition off the last bend, he probably did it bike four
:31:16. > :31:20.metres. Yes, and it shows the confidence that you have to have
:31:20. > :31:25.been running. It does not matter who you are running against, you
:31:25. > :31:35.have to run your own race. A great action so far and still plenty more
:31:35. > :31:35.
:31:35. > :32:16.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 83 seconds
:32:16. > :32:26.Sutcliffe. He is representing the Commonwealth team. Steve Lewis
:32:26. > :32:29.
:32:29. > :32:39.collected to pass at five metres 40. -- elected. Again, he did not have
:32:39. > :32:46.
:32:46. > :32:50.the momentum to carry him over the his season's best, his personal
:32:50. > :32:57.best, and continue in the red hot form that he has demonstrated so
:32:57. > :33:06.far. Just himself and Starodubtsev of Russia left in the competition.
:33:06. > :33:16.Third place for Sutcliffe for the Commonwealth team and fourth place
:33:16. > :33:16.
:33:16. > :34:02.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 83 seconds
:34:02. > :34:10.to 2007. For Margaret Adeoye, she will be looking to get under 24
:34:10. > :34:19.seconds, if she can. There are not just individual sprint places to
:34:19. > :34:25.think about, but we late places as well for the summer. She is the US
:34:25. > :34:35.Belleek -- collegiate champion from last year. Cathleen Tschirch, has
:34:35. > :34:35.
:34:35. > :34:45.already had one race this year. And possibly the favourite although the
:34:45. > :34:50.lane draw may not help, Gushchina. Did she gets away quickly, watch
:34:50. > :35:00.her finishing strongly. Perhaps she was disappointed last year to only
:35:00. > :35:14.
:35:14. > :35:24.make the semi-finals in the world competition outside her, McGrone
:35:24. > :35:39.
:35:39. > :35:45.setting the pace in the outside lanes. But Gushchina is going
:35:45. > :35:51.backwards and it is at the ODA coming through. The German just
:35:51. > :36:01.faded enough and I think Adeoye stolid on do the line. That is a
:36:01. > :36:05.
:36:05. > :36:10.massive jump forward. 23.69. A great run and a great win.
:36:10. > :36:14.Gushchina disappeared down the back straight. For a while it looked as
:36:14. > :36:24.though Tschirch might win it but she just faded and allowed Margaret
:36:24. > :36:30.Adeoye to get the victory. Two surprise wins in the 200m. COLIN
:36:30. > :36:34.JACKSON: She got an excellent start. She got onto the first curve really
:36:34. > :36:38.well indeed. The German and the Russian were battling out the left
:36:38. > :36:44.of the screen but Margaret was keeping her head and keeping nice
:36:44. > :36:49.and cool. No worries whatsoever. Coming to the final turn she has
:36:49. > :36:56.her eyes clearly on the Russian and the German and she believes in
:36:56. > :37:02.herself. She comes off this turn in control and drives really hard. In
:37:02. > :37:11.comparison, the German struggled. A great performance by Margaret there.
:37:11. > :37:15.She must be looking forward to more and more races at this level.
:37:15. > :37:21.are going to have a look as something which I had not seen in a
:37:21. > :37:25.top-class competition before. Look at McGrone in lane three on the
:37:25. > :37:33.back straight. She is in an international competition, running
:37:33. > :37:38.hard. She adjusts her shorts! is very unusual! In by was the team
:37:38. > :37:48.manager or coach I would say get on with it! Yes, you would be
:37:48. > :37:56.disappointed. But a great win for Margaret Adeoye. She is with Phil
:37:56. > :38:01.These victories are catching. A tremendous performance. I think
:38:02. > :38:07.there's a sense of disbelief at the moment. There is, definitely!
:38:07. > :38:11.Appear like I'm in great shape but I'm shocked. Or does that tell you
:38:11. > :38:16.about what is to come for this season, what more is in the tank
:38:16. > :38:22.for you? I do not know, I am just at the moment taking it to step at
:38:22. > :38:28.a time. Each race, I know that I will improve, hopefully. When you
:38:28. > :38:32.came in today, realistically, what were you hoping? Was hoping to win.
:38:32. > :38:42.There is no expectation for me and I felt good so I thought I would go
:38:42. > :38:48.
:38:48. > :38:58.for it. Enjoyed the moment, well who, when they get drawn in lane
:38:58. > :39:06.two, have not turned up in the past, but she won it from lane two. That
:39:06. > :39:10.has made a bit of a difference over the last 10 or 15 minutes. We have
:39:10. > :39:20.closed the gap on Russia and moved ahead of the United States and
:39:20. > :39:26.
:39:26. > :39:33.We are shocked as Margaret Adeoye is. Absolutely, and what a
:39:33. > :39:38.performance. She has only run a three tense quicker outdoors. The
:39:38. > :39:46.mind boggles what she can do if she stays healthy and keeps this form.
:39:46. > :39:50.She went out brilliantly, kept her form, kept using her lane and
:39:50. > :40:00.working off McGrone, and I cannot believe what she did with her
:40:00. > :40:02.
:40:02. > :40:08.short! She lost ground here. We are watching the wrong race here, but
:40:08. > :40:14.never mind. That was the 400m. Margaret, I think her best
:40:14. > :40:19.performances were the double in the University championships. To come
:40:19. > :40:25.here and have the majority to do that is very encouraging. It is
:40:25. > :40:29.very encouraging. She has had two very good coaches in her career. I
:40:29. > :40:37.think, absolutely, have we had more to see from her. Fingers crossed,
:40:37. > :40:45.this is the right race. There it is, we know it is now! The American
:40:45. > :40:49.loss so much ground by doing that. Nevertheless, Adeoye ran well and
:40:49. > :40:55.kept her form. I have to say she ran what seemed to be the perfect
:40:55. > :40:59.race be. Before the event you would not have picked out the 200m to
:41:00. > :41:04.provide us with double maximum points. It was great to see that,
:41:04. > :41:10.two guys who were inspired to go out there and do well. Danny said
:41:10. > :41:16.that the crowd lifted him and Margaret Adeoye came off the back
:41:16. > :41:26.of that and smashed her personal best. Willie could to see. We can
:41:26. > :41:44.
:41:44. > :41:54.get back out now to catch up with best there. But he did not really
:41:54. > :42:03.commit. But still, Good afternoon's work for the German athlete. By
:42:03. > :42:13.0.72, his best clearance. We will see if Starodubtsev can capitalise
:42:13. > :42:18.and go higher. He has been in red- hot form this season. He is the
:42:18. > :42:26.former world European and junior champion. He needs to transfers
:42:26. > :42:32.some of that talent through to the senior ranks. He cleared 5.80 this
:42:32. > :42:42.year. But the Russian season tends to start early in December and he
:42:42. > :43:07.
:43:07. > :43:17.has already been over five metres compass at five. Some 27. -- 5.77.
:43:17. > :43:37.
:43:37. > :43:42.The pole vault has a clock and clearance so the winner of the
:43:42. > :43:52.competition is Karsten Dilla. He finishes in second place for the
:43:52. > :44:17.
:44:17. > :44:21.Championships recently. He was seven seconds ahead of his nearest
:44:21. > :44:31.rival and in doing so got a qualifying tie for the World Indoor
:44:31. > :44:36.
:44:36. > :44:43.Championships later this year. Solomon, his lifetime best was set
:44:43. > :44:48.last season. Soren Ludolph, the German indoor champion and outdoors
:44:49. > :44:58.in 2011, he had a good season. Yet to run indoors over this distance
:44:59. > :44:59.
:44:59. > :45:09.this year. Tukhtachev, the European Under 23 champion a couple of years
:45:09. > :45:12.
:45:12. > :45:17.ago. Boaz Lalang, the Commonwealth Games champion in 2010 and the
:45:17. > :45:23.world championships silver- medallist. When the world record
:45:23. > :45:33.was broken last year, he finished in second place. A real opportunity
:45:33. > :45:41.
:45:41. > :45:45.for Joe Thomas to mix it with some championships. It is early in the
:45:45. > :45:50.year but that is the third fastest in the world. The thing about Joe
:45:50. > :45:57.is that he is quick. He has got a good finish and he is using his
:45:57. > :46:07.racing brain quite well. Powers I Lang is the class act here. -- Boaz
:46:07. > :46:08.
:46:08. > :46:17.Lalang. He can use his speed in the short races. Solomon is a pretty
:46:17. > :46:27.good indoor runner as well so Joe has got his work cut out here.
:46:27. > :46:29.Lalang leads and then the German, Soren Ludolph. The Russian at the
:46:29. > :46:35.back knees to get a move on and already the Russian beginning to
:46:35. > :46:40.make a move down the back straight. Boaz Lalang looks so comfortable
:46:40. > :46:43.with Joe Thomas taking closer order this time. Not quite moving on to
:46:44. > :46:48.the shoulder of the Kenyan. The Kenyan looks Smith and here goes
:46:48. > :46:58.Joe Thomas. Joe Thomas bursting into the lead there.
:46:58. > :46:59.
:46:59. > :47:09.a sprint by Joe Thomas. The crowd going absolutely ballistic here in
:47:09. > :47:10.
:47:10. > :47:20.Glasgow. Joe Thomas, wins it by a mile, wow! What a performance, what
:47:20. > :47:24.
:47:24. > :47:30.And you will rarely see an indoor 800 metres race run and won by that
:47:30. > :47:36.much. Especially at this level. Terrific performance, and maximum
:47:36. > :47:40.points at once again for Great Britain. What a dominating run.
:47:40. > :47:43.That showed that Joe has already raced this year and is in great
:47:44. > :47:49.shape. The others were not ready for that. Boaz Lalang and started
:47:49. > :47:54.could put got slower and slower and Joe thought, he was in the right
:47:54. > :48:02.place. This is the point of the race that he excels in. Against
:48:03. > :48:10.this level of competition and the last 225.7 seconds -- 200, 25.7
:48:10. > :48:15.seconds. It really played into Joe's hands but he capitalised on
:48:15. > :48:20.it fully. He looks to me as though he is wintering well, in good shape
:48:20. > :48:23.which she has to do. He has struggled to convert good indoor
:48:23. > :48:27.form in two times outdoors. He has run this sort of races before and
:48:27. > :48:37.not as good us this, I will grant him that but this was a really top-
:48:37. > :48:38.
:48:38. > :48:47.level performance. It will put him year by Joe Thomas, let's hear what
:48:47. > :48:52.PHIL JONES: I am sure you are hoping that faster times are to
:48:52. > :48:59.come but many more victories to come as well. Yes, I opened up with
:48:59. > :49:03.a really quick thirst go so I thought today was about racing. The
:49:03. > :49:08.tactics are right and it is a horribly tight track. I went out as
:49:08. > :49:16.hard as I could in lane one. Got a bit of lactic running on the tight
:49:16. > :49:20.bends but started to feel really good. You got the victory as well,
:49:20. > :49:26.what does that kind of victory do for your confidence going forward?
:49:26. > :49:31.Confident is massive, that was really be that for me. This is my
:49:31. > :49:36.third go at this year. It is an amazing atmosphere. The crowd went
:49:36. > :49:43.mental, so good. And are you targeting the World Championships?
:49:43. > :49:47.Yes, that was always the plan. The indoors is always preparation.
:49:47. > :49:57.Getting the tactics right. Every race has gone to plan so far.
:49:57. > :49:57.
:49:57. > :50:01.it going, all the way to Istanbul and one which will make a bit of
:50:01. > :50:10.difference again to the leaderboard for Macey the International scores
:50:10. > :50:17.but Joe Thomas, the winner, massive lifetime best. 1:47.35. It means
:50:17. > :50:27.that the stadium record will remain forever in the hands of Tom Makin,
:50:27. > :50:30.
:50:30. > :50:34.and he set that time back in 1990. The men's high jump. The bar so it
:50:34. > :50:39.at 2.23 metres. Aleksandr Shustov gave that a fair nudge, you could
:50:39. > :50:45.see the bar bobbling that he goes clear. He instances record of
:50:45. > :50:52.perfection. Robbie Grabarz, first time and failure, passed and moved
:50:52. > :50:56.up to 2.26 metres. His first, U2, did not get that right at all. We
:50:56. > :51:06.saw the world leading clearance before but got that wrong on
:51:06. > :51:09.
:51:09. > :51:19.approach. He will have one approach world leading Mark that he put down
:51:19. > :51:24.
:51:24. > :51:31.of 2.34 by getting a good height attempt at 2.26 for Robbie Grabarz,
:51:31. > :51:35.and he gets it! Yes! He likes that. He gives the thumbs up to the crowd,
:51:35. > :51:40.a big leap of celebration. Even though it was only her second
:51:40. > :51:47.attempt at this height, effectively it was a third and final effort at
:51:47. > :51:57.2.26. He keeps himself in the competition. Andre Manson has gone
:51:57. > :51:58.
:51:58. > :52:04.clear. We saw Aleksandr Shustov go clear and look at high point.
:52:04. > :52:10.Crisis averted. But in those look - - put in those rules together.
:52:10. > :52:14.Germany have come back into it. Russia still with the three point
:52:14. > :52:18.lead and the United States now find lead and the United States now find
:52:18. > :52:22.themselves in 5th place. JONATHAN EDWARDS: Relief for Robbie
:52:22. > :52:26.Grabarz. Helen Clitheroe, European indoor champion over 3,000 metres,
:52:26. > :52:32.that is the event she runs today and she has been out in Kenya
:52:32. > :52:36.preparing for 2012. As we get set for the indoor season and what is
:52:36. > :52:40.to come beyond, what I call thoughts about 2012 and what might
:52:40. > :52:44.be in store for yourself? It is something we have all been waiting
:52:44. > :52:48.for obviously, it has been spoken about for a long time and it is
:52:48. > :52:52.nice to say it is here, we are now in 2012. I am looking to have a
:52:52. > :52:56.good indoor season to see where I am at, see if any adjustments need
:52:57. > :53:01.to be made on my training and then I really want to run under 15
:53:01. > :53:06.minutes for five K and make the team for the Olympics. It is a
:53:06. > :53:10.massive dream of mind and to get in the final and produce a very good
:53:10. > :53:15.performance. My training has gone really well out here. I was out
:53:15. > :53:19.here before Christmas and was home for three weeks and back out again.
:53:19. > :53:25.The Laboratory tests I did when very well. Everything has gone to
:53:25. > :53:31.plan here so I am hoping I can step on again and do a few indoor races
:53:31. > :53:35.and then of this two focusing on the summer. -- and then obviously
:53:35. > :53:38.focusing on the summer. It started indoor for Helen nastier.
:53:38. > :53:43.The brilliant performers at the European Championships when she won
:53:43. > :53:50.the gold medal and it gave her that renewed vigour that she has tried
:53:50. > :53:58.to take into qualifying for the 5,000 metres. This is a tough race
:53:58. > :54:07.here. Tara Erdmann, Corinna Harrer, and the Commonwealth team athlete

:24:17. > :24:23.metres record, 7.30. Jeanette Kwakye really has to get out of the
:24:23. > :24:27.blocks quickly. Angela Williams next to her when she was on form
:24:27. > :24:33.and she won the World Championship. Recognised as having the fastest
:24:33. > :24:38.start in the world, generally recognised. Very similar lifetime
:24:38. > :24:48.bests with the American just on the left-hand side just having the edge,
:24:48. > :24:58.
:24:58. > :25:03.well and left and will -- Angela Williams for dead. Jeanette Kwakye
:25:03. > :25:07.wins it by a mile! And then came the German, Yasmin Kwadwo, that is
:25:07. > :25:14.great news for Great Britain. I think they will be back on top of
:25:14. > :25:22.the table. What a run by Jeanette Kwakye. I was so excited by the
:25:22. > :25:28.victory that I did not see what the clock stopped at but... 7.26, two
:25:28. > :25:34.per, absolutely superb. One of our best races since the she want the
:25:34. > :25:38.silver medal in the worlds. Absolutely great run for Great
:25:38. > :25:45.Britain. COLIN JACKSON: You are good reason
:25:45. > :25:49.to be excited, this lady is an exceptional sprinter. Very quick
:25:49. > :25:53.out of the blocks. Many injuries out of the blocks but look at the
:25:53. > :26:00.return, she looks very focused and positive. Focus all the way to the
:26:00. > :26:03.line and she is with rewarded for with a good result. Absolutely
:26:03. > :26:08.wonderful, Jeanette Kwakye. She knows to her right the experience
:26:08. > :26:12.of Angela Williams. Jeannette herself feels very comfortable now
:26:12. > :26:16.because at this stage, she cannot see anybody, she wants to keep
:26:16. > :26:21.working towards the line. A great sprinter, Majestic where she is at
:26:21. > :26:31.her best and she is really great to see. Returning to form so well
:26:31. > :26:34.
:26:34. > :26:38.great form in 2008, she started with a victory in Glasgow, this
:26:38. > :26:41.could be the start of great things to come in 2012. Let's find out,
:26:41. > :26:50.to come in 2012. Let's find out, she is downstairs talking to Phil.
:26:50. > :26:54.He started with a win, and maybe you have set a precedent. I hope
:26:54. > :26:58.that is a good omen. It is nice to come here and perform like that
:26:58. > :27:03.because I am still in quite heavy training so to put a time like that
:27:04. > :27:07.in, it is quite impressive, considering what we are doing.
:27:07. > :27:12.Everybody is getting in the ring, they are oppressed by the hard work.
:27:12. > :27:17.You come out with times like that. It feels good and I came here last
:27:17. > :27:23.year and I had an injury. But at the quality of today, I feel a lot
:27:23. > :27:27.more confident in myself and in my fitness so I am happy. Building in
:27:27. > :27:30.increments from here towards the big goal. Yes, it is so exciting
:27:30. > :27:34.and like I said earlier, technically we have been working on
:27:34. > :27:44.so many different things. My coach will pick that apart. Well done,
:27:44. > :27:50.
:27:50. > :28:00.two tenths of a second off her closest opponent. That is
:28:00. > :28:00.
:28:00. > :28:04.incredible. The Russian down in 4th, significantly. We are timing this
:28:04. > :28:10.well. All the victories coming towards the second half of the
:28:10. > :28:14.competition. It means that now Great Britain is on top. Just one
:28:14. > :28:19.point away from Russia and Germany another point behind. All to play
:28:19. > :28:27.for still but with the men's 60 and Mo Farah, things are looking good
:28:27. > :28:34.JONATHAN EDWARDS: That brought the biggest smile to our face. Yes, I
:28:34. > :28:39.have calmed down again now! That was a display of textbook sprinting.
:28:39. > :28:45.She led from her first foot down. Electric out of the blocks and
:28:45. > :28:50.driving, driving 20 in to 30 metres and she is a beautiful runner but
:28:50. > :28:56.she has had to be patient to find this kind of form again. When you
:28:56. > :29:00.have been injured like she has, it is a nightmare. You can see that
:29:00. > :29:08.she is driving hard, good, fast feet out of the blocks and she
:29:08. > :29:11.comes into her running form. She is away and she has left the field.
:29:11. > :29:17.The whole Olympic cycle sure she won the world indoor and she was
:29:17. > :29:22.the only European finalist in Beijing. It has been a long, tough
:29:22. > :29:26.journey for her. It has, and you have to be patient. When your body
:29:26. > :29:30.isn't allowing your things that you would like it to do. You have to be
:29:30. > :29:35.patient and she has done that. Hopefully, fingers crossed, she
:29:35. > :29:39.will be rewarded. She sounded confident and she looks great.
:29:39. > :29:46.bubbly and the fact that she has not done any speed work. Clear,
:29:46. > :29:50.blue water and a clear blue track between her and the field. It bodes
:29:50. > :29:55.well but we do not want to rush ahead. But first things first, she
:29:55. > :29:59.would like to qualify for Istanbul, I hope so. But it is 100 metres
:29:59. > :30:03.that she wants to run for and she must be patient and do the work
:30:03. > :30:07.that she knows which will see her through to London. The good thing
:30:07. > :30:13.we know about Janette from 2008 is that she can go to a championship
:30:13. > :30:17.and go to an Olympic Games and perform at the top of her Games.
:30:17. > :30:20.Yes, mentally she has got a very good brain. She handles pressure
:30:20. > :30:25.well and she knows with the added confidence of being healthy that
:30:25. > :30:30.she can go and do herself justice. I wonder what binmen's 60 metres
:30:30. > :30:39.has for us. Steve Cram calling this one for us. -- what the men's 60
:30:39. > :30:46.for Great Britain. Heavy strapping on his arm, hopefully that will not
:30:46. > :30:54.affect him too much. On his right arm. He has got a couple of
:30:54. > :31:04.athletes near him, the USA athlete, a very good 60 metres runner. If
:31:04. > :31:17.
:31:17. > :31:22.you run under 6.5 then you are a under way. Some big sprint races
:31:22. > :31:31.are taking place this weekend. As such a Powell is could be racing
:31:31. > :31:41.this weekend. It is all starting to warm up in 2012. It is so tough to
:31:41. > :31:52.
:31:52. > :31:58.get onto the USA team. We have already seen Kim Collins over 200m.
:31:58. > :32:06.Mark Lewis-Francis is right in the middle. 2010 was such a good year
:32:06. > :32:13.for him, two silver medals, but a disappointing 2011. He will want to
:32:13. > :32:20.do what he has done before here in Glasgow, and perform well. Brednev
:32:20. > :32:29.was the Russian champion last year. Kim Collins, have we have already
:32:29. > :32:35.seen him earlier on. Always popular. He will want to try and events that
:32:35. > :32:41.200-metre defeat. He had such a good years last year when many said
:32:41. > :32:46.he was way past his best. Mark Lewis-Francis, 29 years of age,
:32:46. > :32:56.getting a big cheer from this crowd. Hoping he can give Britain another
:32:56. > :33:07.
:33:07. > :33:15.victory. And then Ivory Willams. Christian Blum, from Germany, has
:33:15. > :33:25.run 6.6 to one already this year. He could be a little bit of a
:33:25. > :33:25.
:33:25. > :33:30.threat here. It is all about confidence. We started this
:33:30. > :33:34.afternoon with a disappointing run from Andy Turner and that sets him
:33:35. > :33:44.off in a negative tone for the year. Mark Lewis-Francis will be wanting
:33:45. > :34:18.
:34:18. > :34:24.line! -- takes it. Pointing and saying I took that victory just in
:34:24. > :34:32.the last two strides. I think three thread thought he had it but once
:34:32. > :34:35.more he has suffered defeat to the British sprinter. That was a really
:34:35. > :34:40.good performance by Mark Lewis- Francis. He kept his head and made
:34:40. > :34:45.his way to the victory. In the middle part of the race he did not
:34:45. > :34:52.keep pushing because that is when Collins took the lead. But he kept
:34:52. > :34:59.his head and get working all the way to the line. Collins did well
:34:59. > :35:05.but I think Mark Lewis-Francis's big chest may have taken the
:35:05. > :35:11.victory. Straight off the blocks, he is very explosive when he works
:35:11. > :35:16.hard for this first 10 strides. When he gets upright, you can see
:35:16. > :35:22.that Kim Collins is still driving. That is when he just needs into the
:35:22. > :35:32.lead. But Mark kept focused and kept working. There seems no stress
:35:32. > :35:33.
:35:33. > :35:41.on his face and he seems pretty confident. It is the torso, not the
:35:41. > :35:51.chin. Kim Collins's Chindit that no the one it, but it is the torso
:35:51. > :36:05.
:36:05. > :36:08.that counts. -- chin and that one It was a great race. I thought I
:36:08. > :36:13.had it but you never know what can happen because it is such a short
:36:13. > :36:17.race. You have done double duty today and you always entertained
:36:17. > :36:26.the crowd, and they were right behind you. How much does that lift
:36:26. > :36:32.you? I whole lot. After like the home favourite. Here is the man who
:36:32. > :36:40.beat you by the narrowest of margins. A tremendous performance.
:36:40. > :36:45.Well done. It has been catching, this Britain victory thing over the
:36:45. > :36:54.last hour or so. You have perhaps sealed the overall victory it Mo
:36:54. > :37:01.Farah runs well later. I got my adrenalin from Jeanette Kwakye in
:37:01. > :37:07.her 60. I'm happy with that. are heavily strapped up, how much
:37:07. > :37:12.of a problem has that been? It is more safety than anything else. I
:37:12. > :37:16.came to Glasgow last year was successful and I have done it again
:37:16. > :37:22.this year. If I stayed injury-free than the world is my oyster.
:37:22. > :37:26.enjoyed that lap of honour. Definitely! It is always a pleasure
:37:26. > :37:30.to run somewhere where it is the last time and it was a great honour
:37:30. > :37:40.to come back here and run in front of an amazing crowd.
:37:40. > :37:52.
:37:52. > :37:57.the wind goes to Mark Lewis-Francis by one hundreth of a second. The
:37:57. > :38:02.good news continues as far as the match is concerned. Great Britain
:38:02. > :38:11.were the lead and, of course, Mo Farah to come in the final event oh
:38:11. > :38:21.we all have very high expectations, even though it is at the shorter
:38:21. > :38:24.
:38:24. > :38:31.Mark Lewis-Francis, cocky as ever! But a good run. Fair play to him.
:38:31. > :38:36.He did run well. Typically, Mark had a great start. But then he just
:38:36. > :38:43.seems to not keep tried think and starts to lose a bit of ground here.
:38:43. > :38:51.But his strength is coming towards the end and he just ages Kim
:38:51. > :38:55.Collins just there. He should be pleased with that race. He did get
:38:56. > :39:02.out well, but had a lack of concentration, what ever it was,
:39:02. > :39:07.and Kim Collins just got ahead of him. His experience is starting to
:39:07. > :39:16.tell. He is nearly 30, he has been in these situations before. He
:39:16. > :39:22.looked relaxed and kept his form together. There was known dip from
:39:22. > :39:27.Mark Lewis-Francis. Why not? He is nearly 30 now, he was this great
:39:27. > :39:31.young junior, he has not quite fulfilled his potential, and I
:39:31. > :39:38.wonder whether would this final Olympic opportunity he is getting
:39:38. > :39:42.his act together. I hope so, because people to forget that he is
:39:42. > :39:47.an Olympic gold-medallist from the relay squad. In the back of his
:39:47. > :39:53.mind he knows that he needs this year to go well. He seems to start
:39:53. > :40:01.well, get injured, and it all falls apart. He needs to finish under
:40:01. > :40:10.high note. There have been some good British performances to date,
:40:10. > :40:16.including Yamile Aldama in the The she has a beautiful, fluid
:40:16. > :40:22.action. She spoke to fill Jones. In such a big year, you would have
:40:22. > :40:28.wanted to start with a victory, and you have, an impressive performance.
:40:28. > :40:34.Tell me how it went. I think we plant to go a little bit further
:40:34. > :40:42.but we tried to change the way I'd jump two because are normally go to
:40:42. > :40:49.hide. We need to put a bit more into the training and hopefully in
:40:49. > :40:52.the summer will be 100%. Are you planning to do a full indoor season
:40:52. > :40:57.including the world indoor championships? Yes, I'm feeling
:40:57. > :41:02.great. No injuries, that is the main thing. We saw you perform so
:41:02. > :41:07.well bustier outdoors at the world. Just short of a medal and that will
:41:07. > :41:14.be the target, to improve of that. Definitely, I will be fighting for
:41:14. > :41:21.a medal. Thanks for bearing with me, it is a great atmosphere and very
:41:21. > :41:27.noisy! Just one more race to go, at the
:41:27. > :41:31.first appearance of Mo Farah of 2012. We saw him in the interview
:41:31. > :41:37.from Kenya looking for him relaxed. I guess he will start to feel today
:41:37. > :41:45.just how much attention there is on him. He has just catapulted himself
:41:46. > :41:50.into the minds of the British public. I am sure he sense is the
:41:50. > :41:56.anticipation but when his name is called out it is going to erupt in
:41:56. > :42:03.here. He just seems to be comfortable in himself, in his
:42:03. > :42:06.preparation, where he is going. He is the man of the moment.
:42:06. > :42:16.certainly is and here is a reminder of how he has progressed through
:42:16. > :42:16.
:42:16. > :43:06.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 83 seconds
:43:06. > :43:13.picture of him as a youngster, because you can remember meeting
:43:13. > :43:18.him. Absolute be, I was watching him at the marathon. Everybody said
:43:18. > :43:22.to me, watch this young man because he is super talented. You were
:43:22. > :43:27.never quite sure when someone says what their potential can be whether
:43:27. > :43:32.it will be fulfilled, especially in distance running. For him to be in
:43:33. > :43:38.the position that he is now is sensational for him. The key thing,
:43:38. > :43:43.and he has said it himself, is he has to stay injury-free, because it
:43:43. > :43:47.allows him to do the work that is necessary for him to progress. Let
:43:48. > :43:55.us keep our fingers crossed that he can produce those great
:43:55. > :44:00.performances. No easy start to the season, Choge next to him, very
:44:00. > :44:06.useful. Very useful and possibly could to actually beat Mo Farah
:44:06. > :44:14.here today. But we wanted to have a good run and it is important that
:44:14. > :44:24.he utilises his speed. We will hand over to a, I am sure, very excited
:44:24. > :44:34.
:44:34. > :44:43.then we win the match. Do not trip up! This is a good test for Mo
:44:43. > :44:47.Farah. He has just come back from Kenya. Heady training. The likes of
:44:47. > :44:57.Ludolph will be thinking I wonder if I have a chance here to get a
:44:57. > :45:00.
:45:00. > :45:05.good scalp. Schlangen, the silver- medallist in Barcelona. It says on
:45:05. > :45:12.my notes that Schmitz was a former basketball player. He must have sat
:45:12. > :45:22.on somebody's shoulders! He is not very tall. Next to him, and listen
:45:22. > :45:40.
:45:40. > :45:44.to the Rohr Fort Mo Farah. -- THE Augustine Choge. A very good world-
:45:45. > :45:50.class 1,500 metres runner. Did not have a very good year in 2011 after
:45:50. > :46:00.a good start. The indoor season did not materialise him for in the
:46:00. > :46:04.
:46:04. > :46:11.summer so he will be wanting to race series for Mo Farah. Don't,
:46:11. > :46:18.trip up. He will run a mile in Boston and then he will be running
:46:18. > :46:22.in the Birmingham Grand Prix. A tough training mileage out there in
:46:22. > :46:26.Kenya but he will have some of that in his legs for sure. It is a
:46:26. > :46:30.question of having to find a bit of pace. To be honest, I don't think
:46:30. > :46:36.they will be too disappointed that his main rival here, Choge, has set
:46:36. > :46:42.off at a good pace. 29 seconds to get them moving along. Mo Farah
:46:42. > :46:48.trying to get his racing legs on, early doors in 2012. Every time he
:46:48. > :46:54.steps onto the track now, as he moves out past the Russian, past
:46:54. > :47:00.Schlangen and on to the shoulder of Choge. There will be so much
:47:00. > :47:06.expectation from the British public who absolutely adore him. His first
:47:06. > :47:12.1,500 metres since 2009. Since then, concentrating on the longer
:47:12. > :47:20.distances. The reigning European champion at three different
:47:20. > :47:26.distances including indoors a of the 3,000 metres. Let's not forget
:47:26. > :47:31.done about -- we get about Schlangen, the tall German there
:47:31. > :47:38.running in 4th place ahead of the American. At the moment it is still
:47:38. > :47:48.Choge and then it is Mo Farah. And then Smirnov. Choge maintaining his
:47:48. > :47:51.
:47:51. > :47:58.decent pace. His personal best is unbelievable at any three: 40. He
:47:58. > :48:05.was certainly break previous attempts. Four indoors, this is
:48:05. > :48:12.quite quick. Choge knows how fit Mo Farah is, he knows he has got pace.
:48:12. > :48:19.Choge has himself but he will not want to set for a sit and kick race.
:48:19. > :48:23.Look at Mo, he is full of confidence. The crowd respond to it.
:48:23. > :48:30.It is better to keep moving hard and then if he has to win it from
:48:30. > :48:35.the front, he has to do it that way. 2.5 laps to go. Mo Farah just
:48:35. > :48:40.looking upwards to his left slightly. No screen up there. We
:48:40. > :48:46.will come through the line this time, a bit of a stumble there by
:48:46. > :48:50.Mo Farah. Mo Farah leaves, Choge going into the lead now. He just
:48:50. > :48:59.got caught out there. He did not want to give up the outside and
:48:59. > :49:03.Choge mustard to the tax. -- to the task. There is the grimmest but we
:49:03. > :49:07.know that Mo Farah is digging a little bit deeper. He will not want
:49:07. > :49:12.to let Choge dominate this race. Here he comes again. He wants to
:49:12. > :49:16.get in front, the crowd responded, the noise is incredible here. Mo
:49:16. > :49:26.Farah back in front, a real ding- dong battle between these two.
:49:26. > :49:26.
:49:26. > :49:32.Choge has not given in yet. Choge there, but has Mo Farah got it
:49:32. > :49:36.right today? The world champion trying to hold off the former
:49:36. > :49:46.European champion. He is holding on, and he gets the victory for
:49:46. > :49:47.
:49:47. > :49:55.Britain! just a little taste of what is to
:49:55. > :50:00.come in the summer then Mo knows that it will be hard work. The
:50:00. > :50:06.crowd really helped him there in the last lap. The noise was
:50:06. > :50:09.unbelievable. With people standing up in Kelvin Hall, it always
:50:09. > :50:17.provides a loud atmosphere. That might have been the loudest I have
:50:17. > :50:24.ever heard them. It was tough, that. Choge had been a worthy competitor
:50:24. > :50:29.here. Look at this, scrapping to try to hold on. He had to let Choge
:50:29. > :50:33.go but had just enough to come back in. You could before forgiven for
:50:33. > :50:40.thinking at this point that just around 300 metres to go, that Choge
:50:40. > :50:44.had got it. But he forgot about the fact that Mo Farah is a fighter.
:50:44. > :50:49.This, the last ever track event in the last track-and-field meeting
:50:49. > :50:56.ever to be held in Kelvin Hall and boy, did we leave the best till
:50:57. > :51:03.last. Tremendous finish and Mo Farah fought his way back into the
:51:03. > :51:08.lead, Choge looks so relaxed in second but Mo Farah, as we know
:51:08. > :51:13.from his exploits in 50101000 metres of running last year, is a
:51:13. > :51:18.real fighter. -- from his exploits in 5,000 and 10,000 metres. He sets
:51:18. > :51:23.himself up beautifully mentally and physically for the remainder of the
:51:23. > :51:28.year and who knows? One that Britain -- who knows what Britain
:51:28. > :51:38.can achieve. In new personal best and stadium record and more
:51:38. > :51:38.
:51:38. > :51:42.PHIL JONES: A new personal best and stadium record. This event will not
:51:42. > :51:46.be here any more so what a way to see it sent off. A fantastic win
:51:46. > :51:51.for you and this crowd right behind you all the way. They scoured is
:51:51. > :51:57.amazing. I am really happy to win. They just got right behind me and I
:51:57. > :52:02.can't believe how much noise there was! I am sure... I have never
:52:02. > :52:05.heard a noise like that for people introduced like that. It is great
:52:06. > :52:10.to see the crowd get behind me. I am really happy. Us for the race
:52:11. > :52:14.itself, a bit of a tussle with Choge, you do not want to lose
:52:14. > :52:19.ground or the inside lane to him. You came fighting back. Tell me
:52:19. > :52:23.your tactics. I had to stay on the inside line, my coach told me to
:52:23. > :52:27.run the shortest distance and don't let him get in front of you with
:52:28. > :52:34.two laps to go. I am sure this will be the start of a magnificent here
:52:34. > :52:40.for you. Enjoy the celebrations. want to say I will auction this kit
:52:40. > :52:45.for the Mo Farah Foundation so get bidding, everybody, go to the
:52:45. > :52:55.website. It is for charity. fantastic cause. Lot of takers for
:52:55. > :53:07.
:53:07. > :53:11.tired, he has just come from Kenya, a lot of mileage. It bodes well for
:53:11. > :53:19.the rest of the indoor season and of course further afield into the
:53:19. > :53:23.summer. There's the stadium record. Choge taking second best, personal
:53:23. > :53:27.best for Valentin Smirnov in third. We said he had to stay on his feet.
:53:27. > :53:33.He nearly tripped up with his first few strides but that win meant in
:53:33. > :53:39.the end, a comfortable victory for the British team. 60 points and
:53:39. > :53:40.tied on points between Russia and tied on points between Russia and
:53:40. > :53:44.Germany but the Russia had more victories.
:53:44. > :53:49.JONATHAN EDWARDS: Just a little taste of what we might be in store
:53:50. > :53:55.for come the Olympic Games. It was quite something, wasn't it?
:53:55. > :54:01.Spectacular! I don't think my heart could cope with this. On this is
:54:01. > :54:07.just the 1,500 metres in January! Mo brings what everybody wants to
:54:07. > :54:11.see from the race, so exciting and clearly... I think his competitors
:54:11. > :54:14.will have to take note and will be trying to push him back into the
:54:14. > :54:18.box, that they wish he would go back into but every distance he
:54:18. > :54:24.seems to just show that he has got a bit more in his tank and can win
:54:24. > :54:32.a race any way I choose for top that said, he nearly started with a
:54:32. > :54:36.trip there. He has, he did but this is what to expect and he tries to
:54:36. > :54:43.run these middle distance races. He was sensible after being tripped up
:54:43. > :54:48.and got out of the way. And here in the closing stages of the race,
:54:48. > :54:55.neither Choge nor Mo wanted to give up that position and a bit of a
:54:55. > :55:00.scrapper that Mo kept his head and just chose his class. -- showed his
:55:00. > :55:05.class. The other thing, people warm to him as a person. I that as an
:55:05. > :55:11.athlete or a person's. I think Mo is always surprised that people
:55:11. > :55:17.like him for some bizarre reason. He said the crowd was so noisy and
:55:17. > :55:21.I said, yes, because the crowd love you. To be think he has achieved so
:55:21. > :55:25.far and everybody wishes him well. He is one of these athletes that he
:55:25. > :55:30.could easily fall in love with. You always want to see the best for him.
:55:30. > :55:34.And yet again, he has produced a performance that kept the crowd on
:55:34. > :55:40.the edge of their seats and ultimately that is what he wants to
:55:40. > :55:48.see. They want to see a close race but also to see their champion take
:55:48. > :55:52.the victor. Mo Farah delivered and there he is holding the Union Jack
:55:52. > :56:00.aloft the way we like to see it. What do you think today will do for
:56:00. > :56:07.Mo? He has been in Kenya and then he comes into this. What Colin says,
:56:07. > :56:11.it echoes how much people love him and have endeared to his journey
:56:11. > :56:17.and how meteoric his rise has been. But for Mo, I think this was part
:56:17. > :56:25.of the race plan, the bigger picture of how he will run these 5K
:56:25. > :56:35.and 10 k races. A great afternoon of athletics, let's remind you of
:56:35. > :56:37.
:56:38. > :56:42.British team. The 200 metres, Margaret Adeoye and Jo Thomas as
:56:42. > :56:46.well at winning the 800 metres. That will set them off for 2012 in
:56:47. > :56:56.the perfect way. And Jeanette Kwakye, four years from her great
:56:57. > :56:57.
:56:58. > :57:07.2008, she starts in Glasgow with a Farah, what a brilliant race
:57:08. > :57:09.
:57:09. > :57:13.There's the celebrations and as the they get going for Great Britain
:57:13. > :57:16.and Northern Ireland taking the team event, the AVIVA put team
:57:16. > :57:21.performance of the day. That goes to Jeanette Kwakye, we were
:57:21. > :57:26.unanimous in that, great performance from her. The next
:57:26. > :57:32.athletics in a few weekends' time is the Birmingham Indoor AVIVA
:57:32. > :57:34.Grand Prix, the 18th of debris from 1pm. We have got Mo Farah, Holly
:57:34. > :57:39.1pm. We have got Mo Farah, Holly Bleasdale and Jessica Ennis. -- the
:57:40. > :57:45.18th of debris. On the Australian Open, Novak Djokovic against Rafael
:57:45. > :57:54.Nadal. And then the European figure-skating champion skip
:57:54. > :57:57.highlighting -- figure-skating It has certainly been a great
:57:57. > :58:00.finish here from the Kelvin Hall. Annie last thoughts? A great
:58:00. > :58:02.performance from the great British team. We were dubious at the
:58:02. > :58:07.beginning that they came through strong, some great victories from
:58:07. > :58:10.some new faces. It was great. perfect end to what has been an
:58:10. > :58:14.iconic place for us as a British team and nation. Onwards and
:58:15. > :58:22.upwards. And Mo Farah, certainly the right start was Mackie is the
:58:22. > :58:26.King of the track at this time and the crowd love him. A final goodbye
:58:26. > :58:30.from Kelvin Hall. It was the perfect finish. The British team
