:00:56. > :00:59.lots of different ways, times, differences, medals, titles and

:01:00. > :01:04.longevity, and it is all captured here at the Alexander Stadium in the

:01:05. > :01:07.museum. There are some amazing photographs and fascinating

:01:08. > :01:09.memorabilia. There is one achievement that is special to every

:01:10. > :01:20.athlete, and that is becoming the national champion.

:01:21. > :01:25.Here he comes on the inside. He has had a rough ride. Has he come up too

:01:26. > :01:36.soon? Elliott is coming back. Elliott wins it.

:01:37. > :01:38.Christie has come screaming through. He wins. It is close

:01:39. > :01:48.indeed. Steve Ovett, a salute to the crowd,

:01:49. > :01:54.how they love it! They love to see him running at home.

:01:55. > :01:59.Jackson moving away. A brilliant run by Colin Jackson. A brilliant run.

:02:00. > :02:13.Jackson is back, he wins it. Good afternoon to you. Welcome to

:02:14. > :02:19.Birmingham's Alexander Stadium for the British Championships. Two

:02:20. > :02:25.well-known faces I hear alongside me, Steve Cram and Denise Lewis.

:02:26. > :02:32.That is, you were not the British champion! I used to do so many

:02:33. > :02:44.events here, hurdles, hygiene, shot but, even the 200 metres. It is not

:02:45. > :02:53.straightforward to get selection, but less, Katie Bennett has been in

:02:54. > :02:59.previous years. We have at the Olympics. A straightforward

:03:00. > :03:06.selection was based on times, distances and so on that the British

:03:07. > :03:10.Athletics sets. We want to send people that are going to come in the

:03:11. > :03:17.top eight and win medals. It is straightforward, come in the top two

:03:18. > :03:21.and you are in automatically. You still have another two weeks to get

:03:22. > :03:25.that standard, because they do not pick the European team until July

:03:26. > :03:31.the 15th. They will hopefully take three into most events. There is a

:03:32. > :03:35.proviso that says if anybody is injured or not here and is

:03:36. > :03:40.considered a true medal contender for the European Championships, they

:03:41. > :03:44.have until the last state, which is August the 3rd, to select them. Not

:03:45. > :03:51.many people come into that category, perhaps Dai Greene, but most people

:03:52. > :03:56.will be trying to send them to their place this weekend. They are trying

:03:57. > :04:01.to take a full team, which has not always been the selection policy of

:04:02. > :04:05.British Athletics. The policy changes from year to year. You want

:04:06. > :04:08.to take the biggest and best team that you can, and giving the

:04:09. > :04:16.athletes the opportunity to get on that stage. The men's 100 metres

:04:17. > :04:31.have qualified already. The athlete we are most looking forward to

:04:32. > :04:46.seeing is Chijindu Ujah. I don't think any of us were expecting to

:04:47. > :04:49.him -- him to run 9.96. He was running against Richard Thompson,

:04:50. > :04:56.who is now top of the rankings. A good benchmark for him. James

:04:57. > :05:02.Ellington was last on 10.19, so a high-quality race. Yesterday, he

:05:03. > :05:07.looked fantastic. We are excited about the sprints, in particular the

:05:08. > :05:13.youngsters, men and women. He looks like the real deal. Make sure you

:05:14. > :05:15.are on your sofa for the men's 100 metres, which comes at the end of

:05:16. > :05:27.the programme today. A Child -- Eilidh Child is a hot

:05:28. > :05:48.favourite in the women's 400 metres. Goldie Sayers makes a comeback in

:05:49. > :05:50.the women's javelin. She is back on the form she had before the

:05:51. > :05:58.Olympics. Who will become the British

:05:59. > :06:09.champion? That is today. Yesterday we had a fabulous day,

:06:10. > :06:17.with lots of finals for the crowds to enjoy. The women's 1500 metres

:06:18. > :06:21.was fantastic, with lots of names to look out for. The start list for the

:06:22. > :06:44.women's 1500 metres. Two laps to go in this women's 1500

:06:45. > :06:50.metres. Hannah England, the former silver medallist, in a good position

:06:51. > :06:55.on the shoulder of the leading two. Laura Muir is following her. The

:06:56. > :07:12.young Scot has had a brilliant year. They have started to punch a

:07:13. > :07:18.little. The pace is slowing. Weightman takes the chance to move

:07:19. > :07:24.up to the shoulder of MacLarty. Laura Muir and Hannah England are

:07:25. > :07:31.sensing the danger. MacLarty is on the inside. The race seemed to close

:07:32. > :07:36.down a bit there. The pace slowed down the back straight. Laura

:07:37. > :07:40.Weightman moved along but has not done anything with it yet. She is

:07:41. > :07:49.putting herself in a position where she could move to the front. Laura

:07:50. > :07:58.Weightman moved to the front and Laura Muir moves in behind her. The

:07:59. > :08:04.E3 will have a tough -- these three will have it between them. They are

:08:05. > :08:08.the best runners in Britain. 300 metres to go. The three are starting

:08:09. > :08:12.to pull away. Hannah England is working hard to stay with them.

:08:13. > :08:17.Laura Weightman is attacking from the front. Laura Muir is going with

:08:18. > :08:21.her. Hannah England is struggling to go with them, but is still within

:08:22. > :08:32.sight. She can be dangerous in the last 200 metres, if she can hang on.

:08:33. > :08:36.The other two extend forwards. Laura Weightman looks behind and looked as

:08:37. > :08:43.if she has got something else, but so has Laura Muir. Laura Weightman

:08:44. > :08:48.is kicking hard. Two great athletes, strike by stride. They are

:08:49. > :08:51.battling it out to the line. It is going to be Laura Weightman.

:08:52. > :08:57.Weightman wins it, Laura Muir in second, Hannah England is third.

:08:58. > :09:04.What a great way to lead the race. Two great talents, you I am sure in

:09:05. > :09:09.the Commonwealth Games and European Championships will consider

:09:10. > :09:14.themselves as medal contenders, and look how much that means to Laura

:09:15. > :09:20.Weightman. She won this title in 2012. A fantastic run, what a great

:09:21. > :09:24.race! A really great race. You can see how much it means to Laura. She

:09:25. > :09:27.worked hard and put the effort in. Her coach might have something to

:09:28. > :09:30.say about looking over her shoulder as she comes around that bend,

:09:31. > :09:35.because it gave Laura Muir that little bit of hope that she could

:09:36. > :09:41.close upon her, but Laura Weightman has a small dig deeper and manages

:09:42. > :09:47.to get a little bit more out of the tank to get that well-deserved

:09:48. > :10:01.victory. The winning time does not matter. She knows she has cemented

:10:02. > :10:06.her place in the team. You picked up the pace and then seemed to wind it

:10:07. > :10:09.up. Yes, I was really testing myself in this championship style race when

:10:10. > :10:17.you have to run had in the last lap, and I'm pleased that it paid off.

:10:18. > :10:22.You certainly did give her a big battle, and it looks like you might

:10:23. > :10:25.have the legs. I was strong on the home straight, but Laura had an

:10:26. > :10:32.extra kick, but it was a great battle and it is great that we have

:10:33. > :10:37.so many people at the top. Paula Radcliffe joins me now. You were

:10:38. > :10:40.commentating on that race. You mentioned about the coach worrying

:10:41. > :10:44.about looking over her shoulder. What the coach they afterwards? I

:10:45. > :10:49.don't think he was too upset about it. She executed the tactics to

:10:50. > :10:58.perfection, and I don't think anyone was happy about that then the coach.

:10:59. > :11:02.Laura was really happy. She did it perfectly. She wound up the pace and

:11:03. > :11:05.wind it up, and Laura Muir is quick, really quick, but she ran the

:11:06. > :11:10.finish out of her, because she picked it up from a long way out and

:11:11. > :11:14.really kept winding it up. There was a point when you thought that Laura

:11:15. > :11:18.Muir might go past, and then Laura Weightman dug in against. Laura

:11:19. > :11:22.Weightman is really tough mentally, they both are, but Laura really

:11:23. > :11:28.wanted that, and she really worked hard for it and did what was asked

:11:29. > :11:32.for her. She really wanted that victory and took that little bit

:11:33. > :11:42.deeper. She has maybe got a bit more end euros -- endurance at this

:11:43. > :11:45.point. Steve mentioned battles, Commonwealth and European, what

:11:46. > :11:50.would you say about that? Definitely. We have got three women

:11:51. > :11:52.in the top ten rankings in Europe. Going into the European

:11:53. > :11:59.Championships, no be else has got that, not even Russia. That is

:12:00. > :12:02.really exciting, but more exciting is the way that they can really dig

:12:03. > :12:07.deep in the closing stages of the races. All of them can do that.

:12:08. > :12:12.Hannah has shown time and again that she can get it right in the

:12:13. > :12:20.championship. Both Lauras have shown that they have got it.

:12:21. > :12:27.We turn our attention to the then's and women's 200 metres. It is

:12:28. > :12:28.fiercely contested. The men's 200 metres final starts

:12:29. > :12:54.like this. They get away clearly this time. A

:12:55. > :13:00.fantastic start in Lane three. James Ellington is running round the bend.

:13:01. > :13:05.They are coming at the home straight. Talbot is in front of

:13:06. > :13:13.Ellington. It is going to be Talbot! Danny Talbot is going to

:13:14. > :13:20.take the win. Danny Talbot is top of the pile. Really good bend from

:13:21. > :13:25.him, but he had to hold the others, and then stronger in the home

:13:26. > :13:29.straight. Nobody able to stay with Dan Talbot. A bit of a surprise. We

:13:30. > :13:33.were waiting to see what Gemili could do. I am not sure he got the

:13:34. > :13:37.best of starts. Clarke was very good out of the blocks and Ellington ran

:13:38. > :13:45.a good bend as ever, a great end runner. He did not panic. As they

:13:46. > :13:49.come into the home straight, Danny Talbot's transition into the home

:13:50. > :13:53.straight is really good, because he gets half a metre back. Gemili was

:13:54. > :14:03.fighting hard. When he is going well, he looks a little smoother

:14:04. > :14:09.than that. I think it really just hung on for the second spot. Not the

:14:10. > :14:13.best of conditions for these men. Into a slight headwind on the home

:14:14. > :14:20.straight. Danny Talbot a couple of tenths ahead. It will be absolutely

:14:21. > :14:25.delighted with that. Danny Talbot gets the all-important win, 20.42. A

:14:26. > :14:30.season's best for Adam Gemili, but he had to work hard to keep off

:14:31. > :14:37.James Ellington for that all-important second place. Number

:14:38. > :14:43.one British champion, not the greatest conditions, but a brilliant

:14:44. > :14:47.result. When it comes to the championship, it is the times that

:14:48. > :15:19.matter. I am pleased to come here today and win.

:15:20. > :15:29.They get away cleanly first time. Bianca Williams and Jodie Williams

:15:30. > :15:36.started the best. Jodie Williams is setting the pace. I knew: You're

:15:37. > :15:42.trying to defend her title but Jodie Williams is hanging on. Jodie

:15:43. > :15:49.Williams gets it. Bianca Williams in second place. Those two

:15:50. > :15:49.Williams gets it. Bianca Williams in that they have cemented their

:15:50. > :15:53.Williams gets it. Bianca Williams in in the team for the European

:15:54. > :15:58.Championships because they have the qualifying time. The two quickest

:15:59. > :16:02.women have ended up in the first two places and the defending champion

:16:03. > :16:12.has had to say that on this occasion maybe not quite good enough to get

:16:13. > :16:16.there with the two youngsters. Onuora to get out of the blocks

:16:17. > :16:20.quick enough and that is maybe where she lost it. Bianca Williams was

:16:21. > :16:27.both is strong on the last ten metres. Jodie Williams, a beautiful

:16:28. > :16:31.action. Onuora trying to get back on terms but Bianca Williams is down at

:16:32. > :16:32.that point and finishes strongly to get into second spot by cannot catch

:16:33. > :16:50.Jody. A great win from Jodie Williams. The

:16:51. > :16:57.-- the wind moved round and was following them. A great 200 metres

:16:58. > :17:12.final. In these conditions that is a great run. Onuora was also under 23

:17:13. > :17:16.seconds and in third. Selection is guaranteed so it will

:17:17. > :17:20.be a busy summer for you. It is, I'm already going to the Commonwealth

:17:21. > :17:23.for the 200 and the Europeans as well. Looking to qualify for the 100

:17:24. > :17:30.tomorrow so it will be a busy weekend and a busy summer. Good

:17:31. > :17:35.afternoon to Colin Jackson. Let us talk about Danny first. It was an

:17:36. > :17:44.impressive run. It was a good solid performance. He picked up a bronze

:17:45. > :17:48.medal at the European Championships in 2012 but now he is really in the

:17:49. > :17:52.forefront of British sport and when he is doing so well he has to be

:17:53. > :17:57.proud of his achievement yesterday. Slightly disappointing from Adam

:17:58. > :18:01.Gemili? With everything else you have to run the event to get the

:18:02. > :18:06.timing of it right and he has had limited 200-metre runs this year so

:18:07. > :18:11.he will only grow. He has already proved he is very sharp on the 100

:18:12. > :18:15.metres so with more running of the 20 metres -- 200 metres he will get

:18:16. > :18:20.closer to the barrier again. Jodie Williams is showing more of the form

:18:21. > :18:30.that we hoped she would show in the juniors. She got enjoyed to at this

:18:31. > :18:33.track in 2012 and I remember seeing her in a heap after pulling her

:18:34. > :18:40.hamstring and she had a succession of injuries but she is back to her

:18:41. > :18:45.very best with another sub 23 run which is extraordinary in the

:18:46. > :18:50.conditions of some -- yesterday will stop she is back. She is ready and

:18:51. > :18:55.she will take honest senior competition. The phrase that she has

:18:56. > :19:00.used already this year is that this feels like her first proper year as

:19:01. > :19:03.a senior. Yes, she had to battle back and she lost a lot of

:19:04. > :19:09.confidence being injured and she has now established herself as one of

:19:10. > :19:14.the ones to beat. She is still young sheets that she is healthy and she

:19:15. > :19:18.is positive which is a great thing that is what you need in sprinting.

:19:19. > :19:24.One of the big events in the field yesterday was the high jump which

:19:25. > :19:35.featured to heptathlete which we are excited about, Morgan and Katarina

:19:36. > :19:40.Johnson Thompson. Yes, this lady is topping the world rankings. High

:19:41. > :19:45.jumping in particular is one of the crucial events for heptathlon. Such

:19:46. > :19:52.big points scores and she has cleared 1.82. Morgan Lake... 17

:19:53. > :19:57.years old, over 6000 and better than any British heptathlete including

:19:58. > :20:06.Katarina Johnson Thompson and Jessica Ennis Hill. She has so much

:20:07. > :20:14.promise. The bar went on to 1.86 and Steve Backley describe what happens.

:20:15. > :20:19.That was a clearance from Isabel Pooley. Katarina Johnson Thompson is

:20:20. > :20:22.jumping from the other fight. She has been stopping short and getting

:20:23. > :20:27.too close and she looks fed up there but I am sure she is pleased inside.

:20:28. > :20:38.That is a great clearance. She has cleared ten centimetres I this year.

:20:39. > :20:47.Now Morgan Lake cleared the previous height successfully. She is in the

:20:48. > :20:50.same situation and 1.86. She has done this a number of times this

:20:51. > :20:56.season and can she repeat that kind of form? No, it wasn't our day. She

:20:57. > :21:00.is 17 years of age and I'm sure she will take plenty away in terms of

:21:01. > :21:08.experience but she will finish in third place with 1.82. Isabel

:21:09. > :21:15.Pooley, the competition leader, first attempt at 1.90. She has not

:21:16. > :21:20.had a failure yet. She looks confident and she goes clear. That

:21:21. > :21:23.is a really emphatic and timely jump to put the pressure across to

:21:24. > :21:30.Katrina Johnson Thompson because she is the only other athlete in this

:21:31. > :21:35.women's high jump final. Katarina Johnson Thompson ended up

:21:36. > :21:40.with three failures at 1.90 which means Isabella Pooley took the

:21:41. > :21:43.title. She did not get the standard so she will have to get that if she

:21:44. > :21:49.wants to get a zero. Afterwards I spoke to her.

:21:50. > :21:52.Second in the high jump. You have got the qualification which means

:21:53. > :21:57.you could go to the Europeans, do you think you will take their place?

:21:58. > :22:01.If I got the qualification came in the top two so I have to see how

:22:02. > :22:07.long jump goes tomorrow. I am doing both events this weekend because the

:22:08. > :22:12.Commonwealth Games Europeans are so close together I do not think I can

:22:13. > :22:15.do the heptathlon twice. Your preferences the long jump? Yes, that

:22:16. > :22:22.is my favourite event. I am better in that than I am in the high jump.

:22:23. > :22:27.In the heptathlon the high jump is the most points so that is why am

:22:28. > :22:30.juggling them both. Number two in the high jump today but you are

:22:31. > :22:34.number one in the world with heptathlon. Have you got used Iraq?

:22:35. > :22:40.No, it is still fresh in my ears to me. I did not expect it at all

:22:41. > :22:44.because I came fifth last year set was a surprise to win so number one

:22:45. > :22:47.in the world going into the Commonwealth Games, it is going to

:22:48. > :22:52.be a tough battle but it will be a good competition.

:22:53. > :23:00.It might be weather like this in Glasgow and! There is still a lovely

:23:01. > :23:04.naivete about her, despite what she has achieved. There is that time in

:23:05. > :23:08.your life when you make such big leaps as an athlete that it

:23:09. > :23:13.surprises you. You are computing and changing but you never know when the

:23:14. > :23:16.breakthrough year is going to come. -- competing and training. She has

:23:17. > :23:20.had a couple of breakthrough years and she keeps getting better and

:23:21. > :23:24.better and she did not expect to be the world -- is now and with that

:23:25. > :23:32.you have to accept that people are looking at you where as before she

:23:33. > :23:35.was very much in the shadows of Jessica Ennis Hill but now all eyes

:23:36. > :23:46.are on her and she is performing well and rising to the occasion.

:23:47. > :23:50.What do you make of her, you told me that Jessica Ennis Hill was dynamite

:23:51. > :23:53.and I did not believe you. She is a phenomenal athlete and I do not

:23:54. > :23:57.think she is anywhere near her ceiling. We talk about people

:23:58. > :24:04.reaching a 7,000-metre point and I think she has got potential to go

:24:05. > :24:11.beyond that. I think she could be getting close to the world record. I

:24:12. > :24:20.really believe she is mega talented and she can go all the way. That

:24:21. > :24:31.world racking order is 7000... 7293 or 91. No one was close to that. You

:24:32. > :24:35.think that is too big a call? We have great people who still could

:24:36. > :24:42.not do it. I would love for it to happen, let's wait and see. Katarina

:24:43. > :24:50.Johnson Thompson goes in the long run -- long jump later. Yesterday's

:24:51. > :24:55.review is continuing now with the 400-metre hurdles for the man. --

:24:56. > :25:28.nine. -- men. Niall Flannery is unbeaten this year

:25:29. > :25:38.and he has eyes on all the other competitors. Niall Flannery gets out

:25:39. > :25:47.of the blocks really well. The early pace is difficult to say, they are

:25:48. > :25:51.all rising together in those lanes. Perhaps Rick Yates in six has a

:25:52. > :25:59.slight advantage at the moment but also going well is Tom Burton. Niall

:26:00. > :26:03.Flannery is starting to come through. They are coming into the

:26:04. > :26:09.home straight and only Rhys Williams is out of it at the moment and he

:26:10. > :26:15.will finish quickly. Niall Flannery has not been beaten this year.

:26:16. > :26:19.Burton hits it hard but they will all finish behind him, no one is

:26:20. > :26:28.going as well as Niall Flannery. He is struggling at the end. But he is

:26:29. > :26:31.going to take it. A poor run from Rhys Williams who looks a little bit

:26:32. > :26:37.disgusted with himself and walks over to the side of the track. What

:26:38. > :26:40.a year Niall Flannery is havering. It has got better and better all

:26:41. > :26:47.throughout the season. Perhaps not one of his best races here but he

:26:48. > :26:51.did what he had to do. What about Tom Burton? He has come here this

:26:52. > :26:54.weekend with only one performance under the selection time. He hit the

:26:55. > :27:03.hurdle hard in second place there and I thought that Rhys Williams

:27:04. > :27:06.would straight but he had nothing to bring him back into the race and

:27:07. > :27:08.Niall Flannery had it all to himself and himself and he and Burton were

:27:09. > :27:12.ahead of the others. This man's season gets better and better and he

:27:13. > :27:23.is still improving at just 23 years old. He is now the British champion.

:27:24. > :27:27.49.54 is his winning time, not his quickest of the year by any stretch

:27:28. > :27:32.of the imagination but perhaps one of his most important wins.

:27:33. > :27:36.One of the most competitive fields anywhere this weekend. Definitely,

:27:37. > :27:40.really competitive team and I think five of us have the qualifying time.

:27:41. > :27:44.In that race anyone could really have got themselves a place just by

:27:45. > :27:49.winning it. Nice to win and nice to have my training partner come second

:27:50. > :27:52.as well. A nice job from Niall Flannery, a new name to most of us

:27:53. > :27:59.but on the basis of that we may get to know him a bit better.

:28:00. > :28:03.Absolutely. He is the number-1 over the hurdles this year. What I love

:28:04. > :28:08.about this boy is that he is very aggressive only every single one of

:28:09. > :28:13.the hurdles, even at the time when some people can bottle it and change

:28:14. > :28:16.down he doesn't, he goes hard in today's barriers and is really

:28:17. > :28:21.aggressive of the barrier which keeps his growing. That saves your

:28:22. > :28:27.energy as well so he has a bright future in this event. As a new name

:28:28. > :28:32.I think he is the new name of the season so far. A couple of old names

:28:33. > :28:37.did not run well, Rhys Williams and dyed green, we do not know what he's

:28:38. > :28:43.doing now. He says he will be at the Commonwealth Games and the hopes of

:28:44. > :28:46.Wales on his shoulders and he is the defending champion but he has not

:28:47. > :28:50.done in the competitive hurdling yet so there is a bit of worry and

:28:51. > :28:54.concern about his performance but he has said himself that he has no idea

:28:55. > :28:57.how he will perform at the Commonwealth Games but we are

:28:58. > :29:05.looking forward to seeing. One more event to catch up with. It is the

:29:06. > :29:33.man's 800 metres. Fisher is leading with Andrew Osagie

:29:34. > :29:41.on his shoulder. Mohammed is in third. This is slow. Andrew Osagie

:29:42. > :29:45.is not bothered and he is just waiting there for anyone to make a

:29:46. > :30:02.move and he might have to make it himself. Osagie is controlling it at

:30:03. > :30:06.the front. He is winding it up. Look at Charles, the 20-year-old, in with

:30:07. > :30:12.the big three names. Osagie is trying to kick from the front, run

:30:13. > :30:17.looking for room on the inside. Has he got enough? Is struggling.

:30:18. > :30:21.Rimmer, who has had a horrendous year, might come through to take the

:30:22. > :30:30.victory. What a win for Michael Rimmer! Andrew Osagie faded when he

:30:31. > :30:34.was in control of that race. Michael Rimmer has had a year beset with

:30:35. > :30:38.injury, his form has been poor and he could not even win his seat last

:30:39. > :30:43.night, and he has come back to win the final.

:30:44. > :30:48.That was some performance. I spoke to Michael Rimmer afterwards and he

:30:49. > :30:53.was on the point of pulling out after his first round on Friday. It

:30:54. > :30:59.is amazing how something can turn around like that. It really is.

:31:00. > :31:03.Michael, he is such a good competitor that the injuries have

:31:04. > :31:07.prevented him from reaching his potential. It just shows you that

:31:08. > :31:11.sometimes, even when it is really bad, you have to dig deep and

:31:12. > :31:15.produce performances like he did. It was so important for him to win, to

:31:16. > :31:23.give himself the opportunity to get the times that he craved. He needs

:31:24. > :31:26.to keep working hard. And disappointing from Andrew Osagie.

:31:27. > :31:32.to keep working hard. And much potential. He ran very quickly

:31:33. > :31:38.in the Olympic final. Then he runs like that, when he has been on good

:31:39. > :31:43.form this season. A bit frustrating. Again, he knew what he had to do.

:31:44. > :31:50.Andrew is the better athlete at the moment, in great shape. You just do

:31:51. > :31:56.know not -- not know what happened. You can tell that the hungry man

:31:57. > :31:59.came through with the victory. We were talking about European

:32:00. > :32:02.Championships selection, but the Commonwealth Games is coming as

:32:03. > :32:07.well. How much of a challengeable that the for athletes, looking

:32:08. > :32:11.forward to Mac peaks in a season? It is not easy. I have had to do it

:32:12. > :32:17.twice in my career. You are having to prepare so hard, and to qualify

:32:18. > :32:19.for this Championships. The Commonwealth Games selection was

:32:20. > :32:25.very early, so the athletes had to be on form. But it is possible, if

:32:26. > :32:31.you are fit and healthy. We should not overcomplicated. --

:32:32. > :32:37.overcomplicate it. You sit down at the beginning of the season and ask

:32:38. > :32:44.what your priorities are. Live is coming up shortly. The men pass Mac

:32:45. > :32:50.-- the men's 110m hurdles is coming up. Andy Turner will defend his

:32:51. > :32:54.title, assuming he gets there. We hand over to the commentary team,

:32:55. > :33:00.Steve Cram and Steve Backley, Colin as well and Andrew Cotter.

:33:01. > :33:08.We are looking forward to this one. Andrew Turner is the standout

:33:09. > :33:17.athlete, but with all his Achilles problems he is the man to beat. The

:33:18. > :33:19.first two go through automatically, and the two facet outside that top

:33:20. > :33:57.two. -- the two fattest. Ashley Bryant has already been

:33:58. > :34:02.selected for Glasgow and Furyk in the decathlon. He is keeping his

:34:03. > :34:08.hurdles shop today. Porter is the England under 23 champion last

:34:09. > :34:24.year. He is in Lane four. And the imposing figure of alanine. He could

:34:25. > :34:27.really push Andy Turner very hard. The former world bronze-medallist,

:34:28. > :34:31.the European champion format years ago, we would love to get another

:34:32. > :34:41.chance in Furyk for him later this summer. And Glen Elsdon goes in

:34:42. > :34:56.seven. And James Gladman, again, summer. And Glen Elsdon goes in

:34:57. > :35:01.can go below 14 seconds. Three British athletes have the qualifying

:35:02. > :35:11.standard for Furyk, .50 so far. Only Andy Turner in this heat, with two

:35:12. > :35:42.others still to come in the second heat.

:35:43. > :36:03.They had the hurdles hard. They are clattering already. Andy Turner is

:36:04. > :36:07.coming up behind Alameen. 13.69. We highlighted Andy Turner and Alex

:36:08. > :36:12.Alameen beforehand. Not quite in that order, but it was Alameen and

:36:13. > :36:16.Turner who go through automatically. The others have to wait to see what

:36:17. > :36:24.the times like in the other two eats. The important thing, as you

:36:25. > :36:28.know, is trying to clear the barriers, and unfortunately, there

:36:29. > :36:32.is a strong tailwind behind them. It is not a comfortable wind, because

:36:33. > :36:42.the hurdles come up to you much quicker than you want them to. Andy

:36:43. > :36:47.got a OK start, nothing spectacular. You need to get into your rhythm as

:36:48. > :36:51.quickly as you possibly can. Unfortunately for Andy, clattering

:36:52. > :36:55.along those barriers did not set him up well. He is strong and bold and

:36:56. > :37:00.works hard into the line, so he takes this victory, but it is only a

:37:01. > :37:04.semifinal. And the most important thing is just getting through,

:37:05. > :37:08.making sure you avoid any of the pitfalls that all these barriers can

:37:09. > :37:14.bring. And it Turner was stuttering a little bit into the final hurdle.

:37:15. > :37:20.Alameen takes the victory. Andy Turner is also safely through.

:37:21. > :37:30.A bit of a shock therefore Andy Turner. We will see how he does in

:37:31. > :37:31.the final later on. We catch up with the best of the highlights from

:37:32. > :37:42.yesterday now. The women's 100m hurdles was

:37:43. > :37:45.uncomfortably by the world bronze-medallist Tiffany Porter. She

:37:46. > :37:49.win by more than one third of a second. Both Greg Rutherford and

:37:50. > :37:54.Chris Tomlinson opted out of competing in the men's long jump and

:37:55. > :38:00.it was left to JJ Jegede to win this sleep.

:38:01. > :38:10.He has guaranteed selection of Europe. The favourite Eilish

:38:11. > :38:13.McColgan when a season's best in the steeplechase as she continues her

:38:14. > :38:23.preparations for the Commonwealth Games, which is on her home soil.

:38:24. > :38:27.And in the men's 5,000m, Tom Farrell confirmed his place on the

:38:28. > :38:36.aeroplanes is your rig. He has just got a metre here, and is it enough?

:38:37. > :38:40.They are still coming up to attack in the last 100m. Farrell is

:38:41. > :38:45.gritting his teeth. He has a look behind, and he is not going to catch

:38:46. > :38:48.on. Tom Farrell kicks away, the British champion. He wins the final

:38:49. > :39:00.5,000m. Will Sharman was on brilliant form

:39:01. > :39:02.last weekend with a personal best. But first of all, Andrew Cotter

:39:03. > :39:10.brings us the results of the first heat. We can confirm it all for you.

:39:11. > :39:16.The top two are some way clear of the rest. We will look at those

:39:17. > :39:24.later on. It was a comfortable victory for Alex Alameen. I think

:39:25. > :39:29.James Gladman is going to be disappointed, 14.21. We will confirm

:39:30. > :39:33.that later on, after the next two eats. I am sure there will be

:39:34. > :39:49.quicker athletes than that. We have a nonstarter in four.

:39:50. > :39:58.Ben Gregory has been competing in the pole vault, another decathlete.

:39:59. > :40:02.Ben Gregory is already out of the pole vault. He may have had time to

:40:03. > :40:07.come across and take part in this, but he was not able to register in

:40:08. > :40:11.time. Will Sharman is having a great year, a real return to form. He was

:40:12. > :40:39.unlucky not to win last weekend. Birchfield Harriers is represented

:40:40. > :40:42.here by Joseph Hylton, coached by someone who Colin knows very well,

:40:43. > :40:55.Tony Jarrett, a former Welsh champion. The next Lane is empty,

:40:56. > :40:58.and Will Sharman is in lane five. He was pipped to the line by the

:40:59. > :41:06.Russian last weekend, but it was a pretty good performance. The 13.21

:41:07. > :41:18.Stanton in good stead. His training partner is next to

:41:19. > :41:25.him, Yannick Budd from the Bristol club. And Andy Blow from

:41:26. > :41:29.him, Yannick Budd from the Bristol Basingstoke, who won the Bedford

:41:30. > :41:39.games recently. The is a fair way off his personal best so far this

:41:40. > :41:42.year. Ben Kelk, former English under 23 champion. The 21-year-old has run

:41:43. > :41:50.a new personal best this year, getting close to the 14 second mark.

:41:51. > :41:57.And on the outside, the Scot Calum Innes, based in the US, and he has

:41:58. > :41:59.had plenty of races over there this year. He was not selected for the

:42:00. > :42:07.Commonwealth Games. Just to remind you, the top two and

:42:08. > :42:13.the two fattest losers will go through.

:42:14. > :42:26.I can tell you the result of the first heat beyond the first two,

:42:27. > :42:32.James Bradman was 14.21. -- James Gladman. That will not worry will

:42:33. > :42:42.Sharman. A bit of a blustery day again. It feels a bit calmer now. It

:42:43. > :42:52.is much calmer now. The triple jump in front of us, that was only eight

:42:53. > :42:54.plus 0.7. Not as cold as yesterday, thank goodness. The second semifinal

:42:55. > :43:07.of the men's 110m hurdles. Sharman gets away cleanly, just

:43:08. > :43:13.about first. He is trying to take his training partner with him

:43:14. > :43:19.alongside. It will be tied for second place. Will Sharman winded. A

:43:20. > :43:27.pretty good performance from Will Sharman. He came out of the blocks

:43:28. > :43:33.nicely. He has come here on good form. He has hit the consistency

:43:34. > :43:36.around the 13.2 mark. It will be good for him that his training

:43:37. > :43:42.partner hung on for second place. He is looking good. What I am living

:43:43. > :43:44.about Will Sharman is his consistency. He

:43:45. > :43:47.about Will Sharman is his this first hurdle. He was not taking

:43:48. > :43:56.any prisoners. He was hard and aggressive into it. He went in a

:43:57. > :44:00.straight line, which is important, because then you can get into your

:44:01. > :44:05.running. Use the speed that you have gained and put it into good

:44:06. > :44:09.practice. Let's watch again. There he is right in the middle,

:44:10. > :44:14.aggressive into that first hurdle, runs off it very well. He clatters,

:44:15. > :44:20.but it does not seem to affect him. He keeps his head high. No problem,

:44:21. > :44:28.no pressure around him, he can just concentrate and enjoy that victory.

:44:29. > :44:36.I just wanted to ask you, if you are consistent in the low 13.2s, what

:44:37. > :44:39.can he do to bust out of that tee-mac you have those breakthrough

:44:40. > :44:42.moments, we mentioned them when you have to have that platter, A-level

:44:43. > :44:47.section of have to have that platter, A-level

:44:48. > :44:50.And what will happen, he will just get that click when everything

:44:51. > :45:01.blues. He is still making a couple of tiny errors, and he could be

:45:02. > :45:15.improving by zero .0 one seconds. He has still got time to improve.

:45:16. > :45:20.Scott Hall is the leader. He has a lifetime best. This is Nathan Fox

:45:21. > :45:26.looking for the support of the cloud -- crowd. He is chasing the lead

:45:27. > :45:30.from Scott Hall. He is well capable. He has got just shy of the

:45:31. > :45:36.qualifying distance so far this year. He is the man in form. A great

:45:37. > :45:46.front and shot there. Speed on the runway is crucial. That looks big.

:45:47. > :45:52.That looks big for Nathan Fox. The conditions here are perfect. Colin

:45:53. > :45:58.Jackson was talking about the wind on the backs of the sprint hurdler

:45:59. > :46:03.'s, this will be judged like full conditions for the triple jumpers,

:46:04. > :46:06.way behind the board, possibly making too much adjustment to allow

:46:07. > :46:10.for the wind on his back. The first run is all about getting something

:46:11. > :46:21.onto the board and we wait to see what it is for Nathan Fox. 15.88. A

:46:22. > :46:26.big strong wind, it was a windy jump. Two metres per second is the

:46:27. > :46:35.maximum allowable speed on track and field for the horizontal jumps.

:46:36. > :46:39.Julian Reid has already qualified for the European Championships. He

:46:40. > :46:49.is also the reigning champion from last year, looking to defend this.

:46:50. > :46:52.First round attempt. Fast on the runway and clean through the

:46:53. > :46:56.translations I've landed plum on the long jump take-off board. He almost

:46:57. > :47:04.seemed to take the sting out of his final phase, the jump phase. His

:47:05. > :47:11.left leg just hit the long jump board. It is beyond 16 metres.

:47:12. > :47:22.Julian Reid is 25 years of age. And nice straight on with their hips and

:47:23. > :47:26.accounted the rotation very well. Space towards the plasticine of

:47:27. > :47:35.about 15 centimetres. Another adjustment will be made by Julian.

:47:36. > :47:44.16.21 is a season is best for Julian. He takes the lead.

:47:45. > :47:52.Ben Williams is chasing that lead. This is his first attempt. He

:47:53. > :47:57.attacks it at the start of the runway. His knees are heavily

:47:58. > :48:01.strapped. You could hear he was good on the board, that looks really

:48:02. > :48:06.good. That is going to be close. It is going to be really close, he

:48:07. > :48:10.knows it as well. Good speed through the transition is there. I am

:48:11. > :48:15.impressed with this young lad. He is 22 years of age. Good height and he

:48:16. > :48:19.maintains that height through all the phases. You have to be strong to

:48:20. > :48:25.do that. About ten times your body weight going down through the ground

:48:26. > :48:28.each time you land, maybe more. 16.21 is the lead. He is keen to

:48:29. > :48:37.know because he knows it will be knocking on the door. Just look at

:48:38. > :48:41.that! One centimetre short and the wind is within the allowable. In

:48:42. > :48:46.second place with five attempts of Ray -- remaining.

:48:47. > :48:56.Let us confirm things in the 110 metres hurdles. The first heat Alex

:48:57. > :49:07.Al amine got it. 1350 is the qualifying standard. He goes through

:49:08. > :49:13.automatically. The result of the second heat, confirmed that for you.

:49:14. > :49:20.William Sharman there with the wind over the legal limit. Joseph Hylton

:49:21. > :49:27.and Ben Kelk will move into the fastest loser spots. There is one

:49:28. > :49:37.more race to come. This is how they line up for the third heat. David

:49:38. > :49:38.King is a very promising man who will give him a hard race from lane

:49:39. > :49:49.four. A few decathletes are sprinkled in

:49:50. > :49:54.here as well just looking for a good run out here. Liam Ramsay is one of

:49:55. > :50:06.those, the city of Sheffield athlete. Richard Reeks is from pool

:50:07. > :50:13.and the Royal Navy. He is again a decathlete, a former heptathlon

:50:14. > :50:23.champion. Onajite Okoro is one of two brothers in this line-up. There

:50:24. > :50:26.is David King from the city of Plymouth, the youngest in this

:50:27. > :50:33.line-up and the English number 23 -- under 23 champion. He has lowered

:50:34. > :50:39.his personal best this season. Lawrence Clarke, fourth at the

:50:40. > :50:48.Olympic Games, it came out of nowhere a couple of years ago but he

:50:49. > :51:01.has run a 13.41 this season. Ashley Wilson goes in lane six. There is

:51:02. > :51:07.Edirin Okoro, one of the large family of Okoro who are competing

:51:08. > :51:11.this weekend. There are three brothers and a couple of systems

:51:12. > :51:16.running as well. David Feeney goes in lane eight, the man from

:51:17. > :51:23.Derbyshire. He is an all-around athlete. The Times they are looking

:51:24. > :51:28.for for the non-automatic qualifiers, Ben Kelk is sitting at

:51:29. > :51:51.14.12. Two will go through automatically to the final.

:51:52. > :52:00.David King is away. Lawrence King is moving up. -- Lawrence Clarke.

:52:01. > :52:05.Edirin Okoro is going. Mac it is a good run from Edirin Okoro. Lawrence

:52:06. > :52:11.Clarke is the winner right on the legal limit. He shows his class and

:52:12. > :52:14.all the main contenders are moving through quite easily. A good run

:52:15. > :52:22.that from Edirin Okoro to take the second automatic place. We will

:52:23. > :52:26.confirm the times shortly. All eyes were on Lawrence Clarke who was the

:52:27. > :52:34.favoured man in this qualifying round and he produced magnificent

:52:35. > :52:41.performance. 13.43 or 13.4 to the official time was rounded down to.

:52:42. > :52:46.He did that with a legal wind and this is the only heat that has a

:52:47. > :52:50.legal wind behind it. It was good, he was aggressive on all of the

:52:51. > :52:54.hurdles. You want to put yourself in a good position where you feel

:52:55. > :52:59.comfortable in your running and in your technique. In everything that

:53:00. > :53:04.you want to try, now with a time to try it in the qualifying rounds when

:53:05. > :53:09.there is no pressure around you. He had troubles with injury worries

:53:10. > :53:14.last year but it is nice to see that he is back and computing on a

:53:15. > :53:18.consistent level. I would love to see him in world-class athletics

:53:19. > :53:23.again, he is one of the real personalities in our sports are we

:53:24. > :53:27.missing when he is not around. He is a quality athlete, very focused.

:53:28. > :53:31.Look at his eyes as he focuses on the hurdle in front, he works hard

:53:32. > :53:35.on every single one of those barriers. Lawrence is one of these

:53:36. > :53:41.athletes who enjoys the skin of hurdling and works hard at it in

:53:42. > :53:45.training. He looks into everything and everyone and compares himself to

:53:46. > :53:51.the best in the world which is good to see. It is good ambition and a

:53:52. > :53:56.great performance. That final is coming up a little bit later on this

:53:57. > :54:00.afternoon. Just settle down in front of your television because there was

:54:01. > :54:03.plenty to look forward to. The men's 100 metres promises to be

:54:04. > :54:08.one of the very best of recent times with nine which British man had in

:54:09. > :54:12.the qualifying standard and most are here today in Birmingham. We will

:54:13. > :54:16.see more from another brute -- one of the new stars of British

:54:17. > :54:21.athletics as Katarina Johnson Thompson goes in the long jump.

:54:22. > :54:25.Winning's 800 metres running is in rude hell so expect a battle royal

:54:26. > :54:28.for the British title and selection for Zurich.

:54:29. > :54:32.There is a strong look to our first track final of the day, the men's

:54:33. > :54:40.400 metres. They are locking horns over one lap.

:54:41. > :54:45.I am delighted to say that in the women's javelin we have the

:54:46. > :54:48.reappearance of Goldie Sayers. She had heartbreak in 2012 but she is

:54:49. > :54:56.back to her best this year. We caught up with her.

:54:57. > :55:01.I think the first three rounds at Crystal Palace were the best three

:55:02. > :55:06.rounds I had ever produced. It is big! That smile tells you she thinks

:55:07. > :55:13.that is very good. I was beaten by two metres. It is a new British

:55:14. > :55:20.record for Goldie Sayers. I will take one more and see how I feel an

:55:21. > :55:30.uncanny and save myself for London. In that throw I partially tore my

:55:31. > :55:35.ligament in my elbow. Two weeks before the Olympics in 2012I

:55:36. > :55:42.partially ruptured my elbow, having thrown a British record and beating

:55:43. > :55:50.all the soon medallists in London. -- soon to be medallists. It does

:55:51. > :55:53.not look much but if you get a pain that is a problem. My run-up was

:55:54. > :55:58.perfect and I was putting as much power into it as I possibly could

:55:59. > :56:02.and it was landing a 48 metres and I can

:56:03. > :56:04.and it was landing a 48 metres and I I was like, what is going on with

:56:05. > :56:07.Mike because I had so much adrenaline it wasn't until I

:56:08. > :56:12.finished and I had had my three rounds that I realised I was in

:56:13. > :56:16.excruciating pain but that is the level of focus you are in at a major

:56:17. > :56:21.Games like that. I had to give it a go, I couldn't not competed home

:56:22. > :56:27.Olympics and I felt fantastic today but my elbow let me down. Having

:56:28. > :56:31.watched it back, I thought the camera had cut so I turned round and

:56:32. > :56:40.I literally lost it and I lost it for quite some time. You just have

:56:41. > :56:45.to let it go. When anything bad happens, it has happened, you can

:56:46. > :56:49.live in two years ago and we have all moved on from the Olympics. As

:56:50. > :56:53.much as it was a little amazing, it is interesting how quickly people

:56:54. > :56:58.move on. The rest of the sporting world is not still thinking about it

:56:59. > :57:01.and they are looking at the next Olympics. We are halfway through an

:57:02. > :57:09.Olympic cycle so you just get on with it, don't you? Is there any

:57:10. > :57:13.pain at all? I have never once had pain in that elbow ligament. As soon

:57:14. > :57:19.as you get pain anywhere that is when pain -- fear sets in a bit

:57:20. > :57:23.because that is ultimately what fear is really. I have not yet been able

:57:24. > :57:29.to reproduce what I did that day, I had probably had the best throwing

:57:30. > :57:33.session I had ever had and that was when I started to get excited. This

:57:34. > :57:37.year at the Commonwealth Games it is going to be stronger than the

:57:38. > :57:40.Europeans and I think women's javelin is probably the most

:57:41. > :57:44.competitive events looking at the results coming through so I will

:57:45. > :57:51.definitely do both. I remember walking off in 2012 and thinking I

:57:52. > :57:55.couldn't retire before 2017. Then that would be a times I would put

:57:56. > :58:03.javelin to bed and do something else and get a proper job. It is hard to

:58:04. > :58:08.watch that and not feel a bit choked up. We will talk to Steve Backley

:58:09. > :58:11.now. He is still the British record holder and a former world

:58:12. > :58:13.record-holder. You are very close to Goldie and you are very close to

:58:14. > :58:19.gold emu and advised her, she has been through the time with the

:58:20. > :58:23.nature of that injury three weeks out from the 2012 Olympics, that was

:58:24. > :58:28.her dream and she was fourth in Beijing and she wanted a medal in

:58:29. > :58:42.the Olympic Games and the timing of it was just recovery has been a long

:58:43. > :58:45.and tough path but you just have to get on with it. She is an

:58:46. > :58:46.intelligent athlete and she has a first-class honours degree about

:58:47. > :58:56.sports science and she understands the psychology of recovering. I was

:58:57. > :58:59.doing TV when she did that injury at Crystal Palace and at that time your

:59:00. > :59:04.words were to put the javelin Danner wrap yourself in cotton wool. She

:59:05. > :59:08.had beaten the British record and beat in the soon to come medallists

:59:09. > :59:13.in the London Olympic Games and I was screaming at her from too far

:59:14. > :59:17.away for her to put it down because she had done the job and nobody

:59:18. > :59:22.thought that would happen all what could happen would happen but it did

:59:23. > :59:31.and to rupture that tendon in the elbow is such a crucial parts, it

:59:32. > :59:35.was obvious to see. It was done. We look forward to seeing her go in the

:59:36. > :59:39.javelin and hopefully get over 60 metres and confirm her selection for

:59:40. > :59:43.the European Championships and the Commonwealth Games and we had out to

:59:44. > :59:50.the track now. First we will tidy up some of the results.

:59:51. > :59:54.The hits went according to form and the last one had Lawrence Clarke as

:59:55. > :59:59.the man to beat and he is just 100th of a second outside his season 's

:00:00. > :00:03.best, very big personal best for Edirin Okoro. David King went

:00:04. > :00:16.through as one of the two fastest losers. Our first big file of the

:00:17. > :00:28.afternoon, the men's 400m. Here is the line-up.

:00:29. > :00:35.A high quality event here, and there will be three or for Mac thinking

:00:36. > :00:44.they have got chances of winning this.

:00:45. > :00:52.Nigel Levine is the defending champion, but not looking so

:00:53. > :00:57.impressive in the qualifying rounds compared to others. Including this

:00:58. > :01:03.man, Conrad Williams. He has looked very good. Maybe he is pushing a bit

:01:04. > :01:08.more than he needed to, certainly on Friday night in the rain. They had

:01:09. > :01:12.two races, two rounds to get to this final, but he will be a massive

:01:13. > :01:18.danger here. Michael Bingham, watched on in New York in the dining

:01:19. > :01:24.leader couple of weeks ago, he ran 45.13, the best I have seen from him

:01:25. > :01:32.for a while. He will be going to the Commonwealth Games. Andrew Steele

:01:33. > :01:35.run this -- win this championships in 2007. He has had an injury. It is

:01:36. > :01:43.good to see him back. Mark in 2007. He has had an injury. It is

:01:44. > :01:46.will still be the man to beat. He had a great race recently and said

:01:47. > :01:57.he had been building up towards the championships. He will want to take

:01:58. > :02:06.this title. Rabbi juices -- Rabah Yousif Bkheit is running for

:02:07. > :02:10.England. 27 years old. And Daniel Awde, the former decathlete. He says

:02:11. > :02:19.he now wants to concentrate on 400m running. He has made a good start

:02:20. > :02:27.this year. We will be seeing him in the Commonwealth Games as part of

:02:28. > :02:31.the relay squad for England. We have the defending champion in lane two,

:02:32. > :02:41.Nigel Levine. Conrad Williams looks good in lane three. Bingham has the

:02:42. > :02:50.qualifying time, 45.70, and Williams does not have that time. Williams

:02:51. > :03:01.needs to get in here. Rooney in lane six is still the man to beat.

:03:02. > :03:08.Andrew Steele was slow out of the blocks. Conrad Williams did not

:03:09. > :03:13.start as quickly as we have seen in the previous two rounds. He says he

:03:14. > :03:26.has been working on judging his race correctly. Not rich between the big

:03:27. > :03:33.names. Rooney is being taken around by Rabah Yousif Bkheit tight outside

:03:34. > :03:43.him. Williams has a two metre advantage. Here comes Rooney! Mark

:03:44. > :03:50.Rooney, he is to get here. Still than one, but only just. 45.79.

:03:51. > :03:54.Williams in second place, a great run, a great race, but he still will

:03:55. > :03:59.have to chase the qualifying time am not quite quick enough. The

:04:00. > :04:03.conditions are not that helpful today. Down that back straight, it

:04:04. > :04:09.is pretty breezy, but Rooney was put under some pressure there, but he

:04:10. > :04:14.came through. It was the timing of it, and Martyn Rooney has been

:04:15. > :04:18.running well into this. We thought he might get close to 45 seconds,

:04:19. > :04:26.but the conditions dictated otherwise. It did, for much of the

:04:27. > :04:32.race, look as though it might not be his race, but Martyn Rooney finished

:04:33. > :04:37.so strongly. At this point here, we thought it was going to be Conrad

:04:38. > :04:42.Williams in the headband, looking so strong, going into the final

:04:43. > :04:46.straight strongly. Just at this point here, Rooney starts to come

:04:47. > :04:55.level, and he has the strength, even towards the very end. He held his

:04:56. > :05:03.form. That is a beautifully paced race from Martyn Rooney, not a quick

:05:04. > :05:07.one, but a fine victory. I was chatting to him earlier on this

:05:08. > :05:09.evening about how things are progressing. The sprint squad are

:05:10. > :05:17.away in America training through April and May, and he has got to now

:05:18. > :05:24.take it on from here he has guaranteed his qualification. As for

:05:25. > :05:30.Conrad Williams, a good second place, but he will have to go and

:05:31. > :05:36.chase that time in the next two weeks to get selection for Europe.

:05:37. > :05:45.I know we will echo what Steve was saying that, a good win today, but

:05:46. > :05:50.quicker times to run. That is what you will be doing between now and

:05:51. > :05:57.stearic? To be honest, today was just about winning. I have not run

:05:58. > :06:03.since the strata. It was just about winning today. Conrad Williams but

:06:04. > :06:09.are they great race. Enemies on good form as well, so when you it would

:06:10. > :06:14.be tough. Four Britons in the top ten in Europe, how difficult is put

:06:15. > :06:21.a a market town in Britain to you want the best? I knew I had to do a

:06:22. > :06:26.good job today. There was no way I could sit on someone was much older

:06:27. > :06:29.and just come home. It is important to be the British champion. I like

:06:30. > :06:37.it! Being British number one is important. To come away with a win,

:06:38. > :06:43.my coach and assistant will be happy. Ashley got a plan worked out

:06:44. > :06:50.between now and the Commonwealth Games? At a lot of physio! I need to

:06:51. > :06:54.get some needles are sorted out, so I will sort that out in the next

:06:55. > :06:57.couple of days, and I am racing in France and Glasgow. I am excited

:06:58. > :07:05.about the British Grand Prix in Glasgow. Good luck. Cheers.

:07:06. > :07:15.Confirmation of that, Mark Rooney, there, still one tenth away from the

:07:16. > :07:23.qualification time. Michael Bingham took third place.

:07:24. > :07:35.The triple jump is coming towards the halfway stage, third round.

:07:36. > :07:42.Nathan Fox that, looking to try and come beyond 16 metres. 16.69 is his

:07:43. > :07:58.best from the indoors, and he looks quick on the approach. That is

:07:59. > :08:13.beyond 16 metres. The leading Mark, 16-metre -- 16 .21 from the opening

:08:14. > :08:19.round. Well disciplined, but he can push in for the last three rounds

:08:20. > :08:27.round. Well disciplined, but he can centimetres by taking off behind the

:08:28. > :08:40.board. Nathan Fox of Shastri Brown at -- Shastri Barnett. Julian Reid.

:08:41. > :08:47.He is in the lead. With this third round at Dempsey will look to extend

:08:48. > :08:53.that. He had three no jumps yesterday, so today is better

:08:54. > :08:58.already. He is looking to create a gap between him and the field.

:08:59. > :09:05.Really good competition unfolding here between Nathan Fox, Julian Reid

:09:06. > :09:09.and Ben Williams. But he is looking to take the handbrake off and drive

:09:10. > :09:20.out, way out there. That looks big again. That is big. Wow. Could that

:09:21. > :09:25.be out towards 17 metres? 16.75 is the automatic qualification for the

:09:26. > :09:30.European Championships. That looks as though it is way beyond it.

:09:31. > :09:38.Phillips Idowu is absent today, as we said earlier. He has the leading

:09:39. > :09:54.Mark, 16.99, the British best. 16.82, a seething's test. He extends

:09:55. > :09:56.his lead. -- a seasons best. He can fill the gap left by Christine

:09:57. > :10:09.Ohuruogu, who is having an easier year? Perhaps Shana Cox, perhaps

:10:10. > :10:13.Victoria Ohuruogu. This is the winning's 400m final. Talking about

:10:14. > :10:19.the number of men in the top ten in Europe, there are none on the

:10:20. > :10:36.winning's side of things. There is a bit of a gap and an opportunity to

:10:37. > :10:40.make a mark. Laura Maddox, she had a personal best in Geneva this month.

:10:41. > :10:46.There is Seren Bundy-Davies, the Welsh champion indoors and out, just

:10:47. > :10:51.19 years old. Not selected for the Commonwealth Games, just missed

:10:52. > :11:00.their standard of 52.50. Emily Diamond win her heat in Bristol. In

:11:01. > :11:03.lane five, Kelly Massey, the training partner of Seren

:11:04. > :11:10.Bundy-Davies, former Commonwealth Games relay silver-medallist,

:11:11. > :11:18.selected by England already. Shana Cox, quickest of the qualifiers. She

:11:19. > :11:23.is the closest in the line-up to getting the qualifying standard.

:11:24. > :11:29.Nobody here has made it yet. There is Victoria Ohuruogu. It was in this

:11:30. > :11:33.corresponding race ten years ago that her eldest sister really showed

:11:34. > :11:39.her talent for the first time. A surprising victory when she beat Lee

:11:40. > :11:42.McConnell. And Laura Wake on the outside, twice

:11:43. > :11:50.McConnell. And Laura Wake on the universities champion. She mixes in

:11:51. > :11:55.a bit of hurdling as well. Christine Ohuruogu is saving herself, a season

:11:56. > :11:56.of preservation and maintenance ahead of the World Championships

:11:57. > :12:29.next year. You can take this title? Shana Cox is the athlete to beat.

:12:30. > :12:35.She moved quickly into her running in lane six. She is third from the

:12:36. > :12:39.left as we look at them now. They come into the back straight, fairly

:12:40. > :12:42.even at the moment between the five athlete on the outside. Victoria

:12:43. > :12:47.Ohuruogu is moving on very powerfully in lane seven. She is

:12:48. > :12:53.trying to get up alongside Laura Wake. Shana Cox is biding her time,

:12:54. > :12:56.Kelly Massey running very well. Emily Diamond... It is very even.

:12:57. > :13:03.Nothing between these runners at the moment. Mary Iheke is right on the

:13:04. > :13:07.inside, going very well. It is an even race. Coming into the home

:13:08. > :13:10.straight, Shana Cox is now alongside Kelly Massey. Kelly Massey is

:13:11. > :13:15.holding her offer. Shana Cox is trying to get there, but Kelly

:13:16. > :13:21.Massey holds on just for the victory. She is the champion. Shana

:13:22. > :13:28.Cox is in second place. And Kelly Massey, a wonderful run by this

:13:29. > :13:36.athlete. She cannot quite believe it, but she is the champion. A

:13:37. > :13:39.former English champion, now British champion, and holding off the

:13:40. > :13:45.challenge of Shana Cox, a very impressive run. Quite a bit to talk

:13:46. > :13:51.about there. Shana Cox should probably be running better than

:13:52. > :13:56.this. She has got that pedigree. There are some youngsters in there.

:13:57. > :13:59.Seren Bundy-Davies started slowly, and on the inside, Mary Iheke

:14:00. > :14:07.started pretty quickly in the first 200m. Kelly Massey ran a good,

:14:08. > :14:14.solid, sensible race here. She held off all challenges in the end. We

:14:15. > :14:17.need a bit of a breakthrough, a couple of the Easter break through a

:14:18. > :14:23.bit more in the 400m and start to get back into the low 51s. Though

:14:24. > :14:28.some talent and is a real opportunity here. Bundy-Davies looks

:14:29. > :14:31.as if she might start a challenge, but she faded a bit in the home

:14:32. > :14:35.straight. Kelly Massey wants to win this. Shana Cox was not able to do

:14:36. > :14:39.anything. Kelly Massey just had enough to hang on for a win in the

:14:40. > :14:50.end, but it was very close. A good race.

:14:51. > :14:55.British champion, I know you will be thrilled with that. Not quite what

:14:56. > :14:59.you need for the Europeans but you have time to chase that if you want.

:15:00. > :15:04.It is not about the times here, it is about getting the medals. I was a

:15:05. > :15:12.bit disappointed with the time but my coach would be disappointed if I

:15:13. > :15:15.did not win. Is it about winning and getting the first to the chance for

:15:16. > :15:19.making the appearance, have you got a game plan for chasing a time

:15:20. > :15:23.somewhere across Europe or here in Britain? I have got the Commonwealth

:15:24. > :15:27.Games but we have a month until then so I hope to get another racing but

:15:28. > :15:34.I just need to be more selective about the races. There is a two-week

:15:35. > :15:40.window being under the level to get to Z?rich as well. That is obviously

:15:41. > :15:48.a goal. I would love to be there. It is in there somewhere. I hope you

:15:49. > :16:03.can achieve it. Thanks a lot. This is a look back. This is Louisa James

:16:04. > :16:06.in the first round. A personal best for this young athlete. Two

:16:07. > :16:10.in the first round. A personal best on 30 centimetres and

:16:11. > :16:13.in the first round. A personal best It is a decent throw. You come to a

:16:14. > :16:17.championship and you do a lifetime Basta -- lifetime best and that is

:16:18. > :16:30.all you ever ask. My hat off to Louisa. She takes the lead there but

:16:31. > :16:38.early days in that competition. It is this athlete, Sophie Hitchon, the

:16:39. > :16:42.pre-event favourite. She has won the British title three times before. To

:16:43. > :16:50.know throws were followed by this in third round. It is way out beyond 60

:16:51. > :16:58.metres. She is a 70-metre plus throw at very best. That was enough at

:16:59. > :17:05.least to take care of another title for Sophie. You can see there to

:17:06. > :17:20.know throws and it was the third round with 65.56 that was enough for

:17:21. > :17:27.the win. In the last round Carys Parry saved her best, she wound up

:17:28. > :17:31.like -- she wound up nicely and she seemed a slowdown in this last round

:17:32. > :17:35.with a lovely technique and she kept it long but she did not quite

:17:36. > :17:43.threaten the leader Sophie Hitchon. Nice balance through the phrases

:17:44. > :17:49.there. That was enough to take the hammer out to 63.33 in that last

:17:50. > :18:06.round and it was good enough for second place.

:18:07. > :18:15.Confirmation of the women's hammer. Sophie Hitchon 65.56 and Carys Parry

:18:16. > :18:20.and Louisa James picking up the medals in second and third place.

:18:21. > :18:25.Denise and I have come down to the Enfield and we are at the start of

:18:26. > :18:30.the semifinals for the 100 metres. The next Ontrack will be the

:18:31. > :18:35.400-metre hurdles. Elidh Child is going in that one. Conditions are

:18:36. > :18:40.better than they were an hour ago. Yes, it has warmed up fractionally.

:18:41. > :18:44.The wind is swirling but for the 400 metres they have a favourable wind

:18:45. > :18:49.so they will like it but the girls are going to have to work very hard

:18:50. > :18:53.in the 400 metres, especially around the back straight where the wind is

:18:54. > :18:58.quite slowly. It is battle for the British title and also places in 04

:18:59. > :19:00.the British Championships -- European Championships. You can see

:19:01. > :19:53.that and a lot more this summer. After this weekend the next

:19:54. > :19:58.athletics on BBC will be the Diamond League which will be on the red

:19:59. > :20:03.button. James Dasaolu will be in there but he is not here. He will be

:20:04. > :20:07.running the 100 metres and trying to book his place for the European

:20:08. > :20:16.Championships. He has not been selected for the Commonwealth Games

:20:17. > :20:21.in Glasgow. There are two days of Diamond League athletics from

:20:22. > :20:26.Glasgow in July. Mo Farah and Johann Blake both running in that one. Next

:20:27. > :20:30.up Ontrack will be Elidh Child in the 400 metres. She has looked

:20:31. > :20:34.pretty good and pretty competitive on the circuit. Yes, that is what

:20:35. > :20:36.she wants. She needs to be competitive and she will not be

:20:37. > :20:39.troubled in this tour but you never know with hurdles, you can make

:20:40. > :20:52.mistakes so we're looking forward this one.

:20:53. > :21:03.There is the line-up. Dai Greene is not here but his partner has made it

:21:04. > :21:07.to the final. That is Sian Davies. She is the Midland champion this

:21:08. > :21:15.year, not too far off her personal best. An interesting race. We have

:21:16. > :21:20.been talking about Elidh Child but there are a few others with a chance

:21:21. > :21:27.to move forward here. Jessica Turner is 18 years old. It is a big race

:21:28. > :21:30.for her today. There is Elidh Child, of course one of the faces of the

:21:31. > :21:38.Commonwealth Games and big hopes for Scotland. Khalifa Spencer won a New

:21:39. > :21:43.World lead yesterday and she will be the gold favourite for the

:21:44. > :21:46.Commonwealth Games. Elidh Child is the number one this year.

:21:47. > :21:56.Commonwealth Games. Elidh Child is the number one That is Efe Okoro who

:21:57. > :22:02.is having a very good season. Meghan Beesley won the 200-metre hurdles

:22:03. > :22:06.race in Manchester. If there was an event for that she is very good. She

:22:07. > :22:10.is also going very well over the 400s. So is Hayley McLean, the

:22:11. > :22:18.Chelmsford athlete who is 19 years old. She will be going to the

:22:19. > :22:31.Commonwealth Games for England. Mandy Gault won the Southern

:22:32. > :22:41.Championships this year. Aisha Naibe on the inside. Perri Shakes-Drayton

:22:42. > :22:48.is injured and may not hurdle when she comes back and they just stick

:22:49. > :22:51.with the 400 metres flat. Elidh Child will have all eyes on the

:22:52. > :22:55.Commonwealth Games but when she heads toward zero she has a really

:22:56. > :23:06.get chance of perhaps taking the title there. Meghan Beesley needs to

:23:07. > :23:17.hopefully give Elidh Child a good race here in lane five. Away they

:23:18. > :23:21.go. Elidh Child has such good 400 metres speed on the flat as well and

:23:22. > :23:26.she has been working on that all season and it will be interesting to

:23:27. > :23:30.see if she really goes for it here. She certainly attacked hard through

:23:31. > :23:36.the hurdles. Meghan Beesley is also going well but it is Elidh Child

:23:37. > :23:41.with a advantage here. She is still going strong and she is changing

:23:42. > :23:47.down and chopping a little bit into that and changing down her stride

:23:48. > :23:54.pattern. The 19-year-old is hanging onto Beasley. Elidh Child into the

:23:55. > :23:59.home straight as expected. Okoro is coming into it as well. This is the

:24:00. > :24:04.part of the race that Elidh Child has been trying to work to make sure

:24:05. > :24:09.she can maintain well. She is going to win easily. Meghan Beesley is

:24:10. > :24:17.going to hold off Hayley McLean. Hayley McLean in third. She just had

:24:18. > :24:24.to make sure no trouble today. I will let you talk about what she has

:24:25. > :24:28.been working on. Meghan Beesley thought she might have been able to

:24:29. > :24:32.give Elidh Child a bit of a run here today but she could not quite get on

:24:33. > :24:37.terms with her. It is windy out there. Elidh Child is working on her

:24:38. > :24:41.stride pattern. I am smiling at you because these conditions are really

:24:42. > :24:44.awful for 400-metre hurdlers. They have a lot to content with anyway

:24:45. > :24:51.with working out when is the right time to change down and how to

:24:52. > :24:54.change down if you are a bit fatigued and you have to change down

:24:55. > :24:58.sooner than you planned but when you have these elements in it of the

:24:59. > :25:01.conditions around you then you really have too start thinking and

:25:02. > :25:08.be shopping your mind and make a real conscious effort and decision.

:25:09. > :25:11.What Elidh Child has been trying all season is to extend when she changes

:25:12. > :25:14.down but today she change down sooner than her normal stride

:25:15. > :25:19.pattern anyway and she will not be too pleased about that but it is a

:25:20. > :25:22.fact under reality and you just have to be wise and race well and she is

:25:23. > :25:25.an athlete now who really understands this event and she is

:25:26. > :25:30.just trying to push the barrier is a little bit further in her mind and

:25:31. > :25:40.improve our performance. At her very best she will duck under the 54

:25:41. > :25:42.seconds mark and you know what it is like when you do that, you are

:25:43. > :25:45.instantly into world-class. This is a good performance from and it is

:25:46. > :25:48.solid when the conditions are awful. I know you mentioned Spencer and I

:25:49. > :25:53.can assure you the conditions for her in Jamaica are different to what

:25:54. > :25:56.we were suffering today. I keep my fingers crossed that Elidh Child

:25:57. > :25:59.keeps injury free and can work hard all of the time because as you

:26:00. > :26:06.mentioned the championships in Europe, she will have one eye on

:26:07. > :26:11.there. Elidh Child is alongside me now. A

:26:12. > :26:15.British title is always wonderful I am sure. I wonder how important it

:26:16. > :26:18.is for you as the European leader this year to carry on putting

:26:19. > :26:22.markers down and winning races and sending messages out to the rest of

:26:23. > :26:26.your? It is great just to win a race. You want to be competitive but

:26:27. > :26:31.I just wanted to try and get this race out of the way and win it and

:26:32. > :26:46.secure the qualification for the Europeans so I can go and focus on

:26:47. > :26:48.those on the next few the Commonwealth after that. You have

:26:49. > :26:50.one heck of a summer ahead of you, an enjoyable one but a pressured one

:26:51. > :26:53.because of the Commonwealth Games being at home and we talked about it

:26:54. > :26:57.before with you being a poster girl in that event. I able to enjoy it? I

:26:58. > :26:59.hope I can because it is such an amazing opportunity. Rather than

:27:00. > :27:08.letting it over or only I want to enjoy it. I can do that -- overwhelm

:27:09. > :27:11.me. Spencer sets a new world leading time yesterday which is impressive,

:27:12. > :27:15.what is there to come from you still, do you believe? I put

:27:16. > :27:20.together quite a good technical race. I have had some really good

:27:21. > :27:24.races so far but today that was not great. I will keep building on it

:27:25. > :27:28.and Spencer is such a phenomenal athlete that I will have to be on my

:27:29. > :27:33.a game to try and compete with her and I have to keep on plugging away

:27:34. > :27:42.and trying hard. It will be great to see win Glasgow and also Z?rich now

:27:43. > :27:45.confirms, congratulations. Well done indeed. Hayley McLean had

:27:46. > :27:48.a personal best and she could be one of those developed that athletes

:27:49. > :27:53.that might sneak into selection. She is still of the qualifying time but

:27:54. > :28:00.that will have done her note harm whatsoever. Meghan Beesley took

:28:01. > :28:04.second place. We had a very good race just a few

:28:05. > :28:09.moments before that in the women's 400 metres. They are not great times

:28:10. > :28:13.but it was a very good race. Kelly Massey held off Shana Cox and she

:28:14. > :28:22.will try and target that qualifying standard time.

:28:23. > :28:27.With the athletes out for the start of the first semifinal of the

:28:28. > :28:30.women's 100 metres, we have the British record-holder in this one

:28:31. > :28:35.and others and I was in the cameraman round with all the

:28:36. > :28:42.paraphernalia for the false starts. You can see when there are reaction

:28:43. > :28:47.times under 100th of a second, that is where it comes from. But first we

:28:48. > :28:51.will go back to Elidh Child and her win in the hurdles, booking her

:28:52. > :28:55.place in zero, as we anticipate. That was job done, I guess. It was.

:28:56. > :29:00.Several athletes have said today that sometimes it is not about the

:29:01. > :29:04.time, especially on a day like this. If you know you can get in the first

:29:05. > :29:19.two then it is really important and we expected Elidh Child to win that

:29:20. > :29:22.race. She had been working on a few things and for me I thought it was a

:29:23. > :29:25.much smoother race than I have seen lately and she looks good so from

:29:26. > :29:28.her it is making sure that she is ready at the business end of the

:29:29. > :29:30.season which is coming up now. It is very soon! Colin, what realistic

:29:31. > :29:32.expectations should we have of Elidh Child? Winger ranking but when it

:29:33. > :29:36.comes to a championship, what should we expect? One thing we can be

:29:37. > :29:40.assured of is that she delivers under pressure. When she ran indoors

:29:41. > :29:44.she had a great breakthrough in the sprint events and she achieved what

:29:45. > :29:49.she set out to achieve. That gave her a lot of confidence over the

:29:50. > :30:03.barriers themselves. I think once she is in good play -- good shape as

:30:04. > :30:05.she is in now then she will deliver the performances we expect offer so

:30:06. > :30:08.do not worry about that. We will focus now on the 100 metres. This is

:30:09. > :30:13.supercompetitive so we will have in the qualifiers so far. Seven

:30:14. > :30:17.athletes have got the qualification for these championships under

:30:18. > :30:20.European Championships and it will be competitive. It has been

:30:21. > :30:25.overshadowed by the talk of the men but if you put it into context how

:30:26. > :30:38.great the 200 metres was last night, we are expecting a red-hot race

:30:39. > :30:41.today. Anna Kalu are will have some tired legs in this race. She has got

:30:42. > :30:47.to be measuring to make sure she is in that space. Asha Philip has come

:30:48. > :30:51.back as a great junior, Bianca Williams has perhaps been the find

:30:52. > :30:54.of this season so far. She has had a brilliant season. She is having a

:30:55. > :31:03.consistent season. We talk about the relative lack of

:31:04. > :31:07.outstanding athletes in the winning's 400m without Ohuruogu.

:31:08. > :31:16.Things are much of the in the shorter sprint. This will be a good

:31:17. > :31:18.final when it comes. Asha Philip and Bianca Williams standout. Montell

:31:19. > :31:21.Douglas has been running very well in the heats. Sophie Papps as well.

:31:22. > :31:35.It is a strong line-up. In lane one, Elaine O'Neill. She is

:31:36. > :31:41.the Welsh record-holder, sharing it with Sally and short.

:31:42. > :31:51.Shaunna Thompson in lane two. She is 22 years old.

:31:52. > :32:03.And there is Sophie Papps, the youngest in the line-up, 19 years

:32:04. > :32:05.old, and she has had a good battle with Bianca Williams. She was

:32:06. > :32:13.disqualified for a false start in the UK indoor Championships. There

:32:14. > :32:15.is Montell Douglas, still a record-holder, a run that came out

:32:16. > :32:24.of the blue in Loughborough six years ago. Asha Philip, just missed

:32:25. > :32:30.out on a medal at the world indoor Championships, but she continues to

:32:31. > :32:35.impress. She has run a personal best this season. And Bianca Williams did

:32:36. > :32:42.finish so strongly for second place in the 200m. She will double up in

:32:43. > :32:49.Glasgow at the Commonwealth Games. Joey Duck was fifth in the 200m,

:32:50. > :32:55.close to her personal best this season. She is running well. And

:32:56. > :32:59.Anyika Onuora will run in lane eight, and she will be running for

:33:00. > :33:06.England in the 200m at the Commonwealth Games. She was third in

:33:07. > :33:11.the 200m here. The first of two semifinals, and the first three go

:33:12. > :33:20.through automatically. In addition, the two fastest losers over. The

:33:21. > :33:24.final is just after 4pm. Don't worry about this standard being achieved

:33:25. > :33:44.here, because so many have it, the standards with your it is 11.35.

:33:45. > :33:52.It is a clean start first of all, and Asha Philip begins to move along

:33:53. > :33:56.nicely. She is asserting authority. The younger Williams is finishing

:33:57. > :34:02.strongly. Asha Philip, Bianca Williams, Sophie Papps coming

:34:03. > :34:06.through in third place. A dominant performance from the start from Asha

:34:07. > :34:14.Philip, the defending champion Tom and in very good shape to defend her

:34:15. > :34:18.title later on today. Asha Philip looks very good indeed, aggressive

:34:19. > :34:22.out of the blocks, and she just poured on all her power. It is good

:34:23. > :34:26.to see that. I was checking the wind to see if it was a legal

:34:27. > :34:30.performance, and it was. She will be happy that she has got another legal

:34:31. > :34:36.performance under her belt, but she was in the middle of the field

:34:37. > :34:40.there, drove very hard out of the blocks, reaching around 40 metres,

:34:41. > :34:44.and when she stood up and went into that beautiful flowing mode of hers,

:34:45. > :34:48.she used away from the rest of the field. She's actually relaxing going

:34:49. > :34:53.into that line. We can expect a bit more from Asha Philip. Ken Wood is

:34:54. > :35:00.the 200m to a little bit out of the legs of Bianca Williams. -- I wonder

:35:01. > :35:05.if the 200m took a little bit out of the legs of Bianca Williams. It was

:35:06. > :35:12.not her quickest start, and not her quickest time of the season, but

:35:13. > :35:20.Asha Philip never really heard Bianca Williams coming through. It

:35:21. > :35:26.does promise to be a very good final. I wonder how much more these

:35:27. > :35:31.to athletes --? Athletes will have for the final.

:35:32. > :35:39.It is Nathan Fox in the triple jump, with a huge jump from earlier this

:35:40. > :35:45.year, 16.69, but he is in third place today. This is his final

:35:46. > :35:51.attempt. He is chasing the lead of Julian Reid. I think he has cut

:35:52. > :36:00.down, maybe not gone past the lead, but he has cut down the deficit. And

:36:01. > :36:05.Nathan Fox, great middle transition there, landed on the button, in

:36:06. > :36:12.terms of balance. That is how you transfer the force. Good on the

:36:13. > :36:15.board as well. The best so far in the fourth round. It looks better.

:36:16. > :36:21.board as well. The best so far in It looks like he has seen it

:36:22. > :36:26.already. 16.59, is too strong to be a valid jump, but it takes up into

:36:27. > :36:32.second place. Ben Williams has just had his silver medal taken off in,

:36:33. > :36:45.but he can wrestle it act and possibly more than that, should it

:36:46. > :36:49.go beyond 16.82. 16.46, a personal best in the third round for

:36:50. > :36:56.Williams, and he is really letting loose now in his final attempt. It

:36:57. > :37:05.looks good, really good. Why not? Absolutely! What a great competition

:37:06. > :37:09.this triple jump has been. 16.82 is Julian Reid. Fox has cut down and

:37:10. > :37:14.take in the second place, and that looks as though it is somewhere

:37:15. > :37:21.maybe between the two, possibly even challenging the lead. 16.46, a

:37:22. > :37:29.lifetime best, you cannot ask for more than that, or can you? Yes, it

:37:30. > :37:40.is good! 16.73. A windy jump, not quite challenging for the gold, but

:37:41. > :37:49.a great series of jumps. It is Julian Reid, he knows he has won. A

:37:50. > :37:55.season's best. The pressure is off. He has got the medal and is the

:37:56. > :38:02.British champion. Now we can show off a bit, I suppose, show us what

:38:03. > :38:07.he can really do. We know the wind is at his back, you can take the

:38:08. > :38:11.handbrake off and really attack the board. He has had five jumps already

:38:12. > :38:17.beyond 16 metres, so he knows his run-up is good. It is solid and he

:38:18. > :38:21.tries hard with the answer, and it settles into the rhythm of his

:38:22. > :38:29.approach. That is big. Maybe not quite his lead. He has enjoyed his

:38:30. > :38:35.afternoon. Champion from last year, he retained his title. Well done on

:38:36. > :38:40.that. He just blocked himself in the end of that second phase. Watch as

:38:41. > :38:55.he lands there. He looks a bit stuck. The jump phase did not whites

:38:56. > :39:06.-- not quite skip off the ground. A decent performance all the same, and

:39:07. > :39:16.a trip to your it -- Zurich for the European Championships. He really

:39:17. > :39:22.dominated that competition. There is the confirmation, a seething's best

:39:23. > :39:27.and a personal best, but it was victory for Julian Reid of

:39:28. > :39:34.Birchfield Harriers. This is how they finished in the first of the

:39:35. > :39:42.semifinals in the winning's 100m. Sophie Papps with a season best.

:39:43. > :39:43.Montell Douglas, quite an attainable mark for some of those running in

:39:44. > :39:54.the next semifinal. I agree. It is full of talent and

:39:55. > :39:58.ability, reiterating the point that we have made about the thing moving

:39:59. > :40:11.forward in winning's sprinting. This is the second semifinal.

:40:12. > :40:24.11.50 three, if you do not get in the top three year. Lukesha Morris

:40:25. > :40:33.is probably a bit nervous. Nicola Gilbert from Enfield and Haringey.

:40:34. > :40:39.She does in lane two. The top three go into the final later on this

:40:40. > :40:42.afternoon. Jodie Williams is already the British champion this weekend at

:40:43. > :40:47.200m. A really good race at the beginning of the programme am she

:40:48. > :40:51.held off Bianca Williams, now attempting to make it a double. She

:40:52. > :40:57.wants to get to the final first. Desiree Henry, a great young talent,

:40:58. > :41:03.18 years old, in 11.23, a new personal best, the former world

:41:04. > :41:09.youth champion. Louise Bloor is having a season of her career so

:41:10. > :41:18.far, close to her personal best already this year. Ashlee Nelson

:41:19. > :41:31.from Stoke, another person who has pushed herself well. Margaret

:41:32. > :41:38.Adeoye, finished fourth in that high event yesterday. She will be running

:41:39. > :41:46.the 400m, her main event these days, at the Commonwealth Games. And then

:41:47. > :41:48.Mica Moore, also going to Glasgow in July, representing the Welsh in the

:41:49. > :42:02.relay. Williams and Margaret Adeoye ran the

:42:03. > :42:04.200m yesterday. Possibly a bit of residual tiredness might affect

:42:05. > :42:10.them, and they might be in trouble if it goes.

:42:11. > :42:17.Some of the competitors are coming to this fresh. Williams and Margaret

:42:18. > :42:19.Adeoye had to run in the rounds as well yesterday. The top three go

:42:20. > :42:28.into the final later on. Stand up, please, ladies, steps

:42:29. > :42:33.back. The starter is not quite happy. I do not know if it was

:42:34. > :42:39.something with the women, a noise or a technical issue. Anything you saw

:42:40. > :42:45.their? I didn't see anything. A green card has been given. It is

:42:46. > :42:53.based on technical staff. We can go again, literally. B-17 sweep at up

:42:54. > :43:04.at the beginning of this, Dina Asher-Smith here, of course.

:43:05. > :43:09.We have the world Junior Championships coming up, before the

:43:10. > :43:12.Commonwealth Games and the European Championships, and some of our best

:43:13. > :43:18.youngsters are targeting those championships. Williams is in three,

:43:19. > :43:23.Henry is in for, Louise Bloor in five...

:43:24. > :43:29.Williams gets a very good start. Jodie Williams in lane three, next

:43:30. > :43:32.to her busy are Henry is trying to get there. Ashlee Nelson might have

:43:33. > :43:38.this at the moment. It is Williams and Nelson, I think Nelson might

:43:39. > :43:41.have just got the dip from Williams in the end. It didn't really matter

:43:42. > :43:46.that three of those are the qualifiers automatically. Desiree

:43:47. > :43:53.Henry will have to wait to see if she is quick enough as a fastest

:43:54. > :44:00.loser. Nelson was at well from the start. I wonder if Jodie Williams

:44:01. > :44:03.was holding something back. One thing we can thereby Jodie Williams

:44:04. > :44:10.is that she is a competitor, already with one title her belt, so that

:44:11. > :44:14.will be a bonus. She's a beautiful runner technically, she has always

:44:15. > :44:22.been great, even as a junior. She used to do 100 she studied 200m. She

:44:23. > :44:29.enjoyed all those events. Look at her form and her technique. It is

:44:30. > :44:33.nearly flawless. It will only improve with maturity. She flowed

:44:34. > :44:36.through the line very well indeed. Lovely to see her really showing her

:44:37. > :44:41.potential as a senior. We knew what she could do with the junior. She

:44:42. > :44:46.win or her major titles as a junior. Now is her opportunity to shine. It

:44:47. > :45:05.is not over yet and she has the final to do.

:45:06. > :45:10.semifinal of the 100 metres. The athlete in the red tracksuit has

:45:11. > :45:19.just gone for a little start there and we have been to meet him.

:45:20. > :45:27.Chijindu Ujah will go in lane five. He started quickly. He must have run

:45:28. > :45:32.a brilliant race. 9.96. The youngster from Great Britain, a

:45:33. > :45:35.brilliant performance. We knew anything was possible if I executed

:45:36. > :45:42.the race so I just went out there and executed it and the time came up

:45:43. > :45:45.at 9.96 and I was happy. That was something you expected to happen?

:45:46. > :45:52.Sometime soon, I didn't know it was quite going to happen so soon. I was

:45:53. > :45:54.expecting it. When you talk about this so-called psychological barrier

:45:55. > :45:59.that you have discussed with your coach, are you surprised that only

:46:00. > :46:03.five British sprinters have ever done it? To be honest when I did I

:46:04. > :46:08.was kind of shocked that more people hadn't because it really didn't feel

:46:09. > :46:14.anything special to me. I was just trying to win a race and I got

:46:15. > :46:18.told, when the clock came up saying 9.96I was really happy but I felt

:46:19. > :46:22.there was still a lot more for me to improve on. British sprinting has

:46:23. > :46:28.evolved and it is at a new level now. Everyone is now running under

:46:29. > :46:33.10.2 and everyone is trying to push and push on and try and run faster.

:46:34. > :46:39.We will start seeing faster races happening in Britain in the next

:46:40. > :46:43.couple of years direct can. Your performance in running under ten

:46:44. > :46:46.seconds late to be included in the selection debate for the

:46:47. > :46:49.Commonwealth Games, how disappointing was that? The

:46:50. > :46:53.selection policy came out quite a while ago and we all knew when we

:46:54. > :46:56.had to run the times and I knew. My coach said I would not be ready for

:46:57. > :47:01.them but we might ready for the Europeans. Do you think that by the

:47:02. > :47:05.end of this season you will be British number one and better than

:47:06. > :47:10.James Dasaolu and Alun Wyn Jones -- Adam Gemili? My aim is to go in and

:47:11. > :47:13.try and win every race and if the time comes the time comes and if

:47:14. > :47:17.that makes me number one then I will be happy about that. I am trying to

:47:18. > :47:28.get you posting here! You are not helping!

:47:29. > :47:33.I have the right type of people around me, I mean my coach and my

:47:34. > :47:36.family steer me in the right direction and do not get fazed by

:47:37. > :47:42.anything around me and I do what I do best which is compete on track.

:47:43. > :47:45.He is something different, everyone who knows him knows he is something

:47:46. > :47:51.different. He is sometimes hard work but I think you need a bit of that

:47:52. > :47:54.to run really fast and be confident. He lined up against Richard Thompson

:47:55. > :47:58.and he had no fear in the warm up area. That is the biggest thing I

:47:59. > :48:02.see in him that has allowed him to do it right now is that he has no

:48:03. > :48:17.fear, no fear of anyone. I am still young and I want to go one

:48:18. > :48:20.developing. Who knows what I could do? What are the chances do you feel

:48:21. > :48:22.are breaking the British record held by Linford Christie? Is there

:48:23. > :48:27.another 10th of a second? It is a long way. It is a long way. You just

:48:28. > :48:34.have to wait and see. We are waiting to see. Only five British men have

:48:35. > :48:37.gone under ten seconds and Linford Christie is at the top and he said

:48:38. > :48:42.wait unseat to see whether he could beat him. We have to move on. The

:48:43. > :48:46.rest of the world has moved on in times -- in terms of the times and

:48:47. > :48:51.sprinting and do you know something? This is such a level-headed guy, I

:48:52. > :48:57.like his attitude, he is serious and quick and he has got his future just

:48:58. > :49:04.waiting for him. He could catch a quick time in the right conditions.

:49:05. > :49:12.As we get the commentators, are we stuck in the 90s when Usain Bolt is

:49:13. > :49:15.doing much faster times? We are comparing him to fantastic

:49:16. > :49:19.sprinters. He is a talent and I like his attitude and he has big

:49:20. > :49:23.ambitions. He looked superb in qualification yesterday. He is a

:49:24. > :49:25.very nice looking run as well and he is in a group that is going well. I

:49:26. > :49:45.cannot wait to see how he goes here. We will just tidy up the women's 100

:49:46. > :49:48.metres first. Ashlee Nelson got the nod from Jodie Williams. That will

:49:49. > :49:59.mean that Desiree Henry will go through as a fastest loser. So, to

:50:00. > :50:03.the first of three races in this round from the men. It will only be

:50:04. > :50:17.the first two and the two fastest losers to go through.

:50:18. > :50:28.Darrell Elliott will be in lane one. He is from the Bedford club. He has

:50:29. > :50:36.run 10.74 to make it through which was very close to his personal best.

:50:37. > :50:41.This is Roy from the sale Harriers, he is just 19 years of age. Just

:50:42. > :50:49.watch this man as well. He is a training partner of CJ Ujah. He is

:50:50. > :50:53.having a really good season. 10.14 this season. So many men have run

:50:54. > :51:07.under the ten point to mark that was the qualification mark. Remains

:51:08. > :51:15.Smith -- Ramon Smith. This is CJ Ujah, CJ to all his friends and most

:51:16. > :51:17.of us now. He will build on all of his expectation. James Ellington I

:51:18. > :51:25.said at the beginning of the programme, he was in that 100-metre

:51:26. > :51:34.race. He ran OK and he came ninth. He ran in the 200 metres yesterday.

:51:35. > :51:45.Tremayne Gilling, the Surrey champion. On the outside Reece Sims

:51:46. > :51:51.of Derby. Seven men have the qualification time and that does not

:51:52. > :51:55.include James Dasaolu and it does not include Adam Gemili and we will

:51:56. > :52:03.also see Dwain Chambers later who has yet to run that qualification

:52:04. > :52:07.time of 10.20. The wind has been pretty much on the backs of the

:52:08. > :52:13.sprinters, it has been drifting over the legal mark and below it. It is

:52:14. > :52:16.not particularly warm. Last year it was beautiful when James Dasaolu ran

:52:17. > :52:19.that 9.91. The semifinal, the first of three. The top two will go

:52:20. > :52:32.through. A pretty good start. Lane three is

:52:33. > :52:38.away well. Ellington has some work to get up to these two but he will

:52:39. > :52:40.not do it. CJ Ujah wins at the Atlanta. 10.17 and he made it look

:52:41. > :52:47.easy. His team-mate is just Atlanta. 10.17 and he made it look

:52:48. > :52:57.his leg, maybe he is hanging onto the photo finish number. The two of

:52:58. > :53:01.them came in in fine form and CJ Ujah had an easy victory and he is

:53:02. > :53:04.making this sort of thing very easy. He did 1027 in qualification

:53:05. > :53:09.yesterday but he was quicker today and there has to be more. He stepped

:53:10. > :53:13.up the gears from the qualifying but he looks good, doesn't he? He has

:53:14. > :53:17.look at -- he looks like a man who has gone under ten seconds and he is

:53:18. > :53:20.easing up towards the lives and he is looking up at the clock am

:53:21. > :53:29.wondering how fast he has gone. So far it is is a 10.16 the man who is

:53:30. > :53:32.cruising, are very confident performance and a mature performance

:53:33. > :53:41.from an athlete with a lot of expectation not just from himself

:53:42. > :53:50.but from us as well. The women's long jump. Katarina Johnson

:53:51. > :53:53.Thompson. What can we say about this young athletes? She is competing in

:53:54. > :53:56.the long jump but she was disappointed with the high jump

:53:57. > :54:01.yesterday and it will have put some higher -- fire in her belly to come

:54:02. > :54:04.back today and this is the opening round. The athletes will be chomping

:54:05. > :54:10.at the bit seeing the triple jump from the man and the conditions are

:54:11. > :54:14.perfect with a wind of around two metres per second on their back.

:54:15. > :54:24.Perfect condition for long jump so what can Katarina Johnson Thompson

:54:25. > :54:26.doing this round? It looks good on the board, beyond the six-metre mark

:54:27. > :54:29.and she is a world junior champion of this event. She says this is her

:54:30. > :54:32.favourite event of the seven in the heptathlon. She always looks

:54:33. > :54:36.comfortable and maybe that was just a little bit control because she

:54:37. > :54:39.wanted to get a market in. She is the favourite in the absence of

:54:40. > :54:48.Shara Proctor who will not be here to defend her title. Her season 's

:54:49. > :54:50.best is 6.7 and this is just 6.39 in the first round and she goes into

:54:51. > :55:03.the lead. Jazmin Sawyers 20-year-old, city of

:55:04. > :55:07.Stoke athlete. She is chasing that lead of Katarina Johnson Thompson

:55:08. > :55:12.and she has a season 's best beyond that of 6.44. This looks quick on

:55:13. > :55:20.the approach. Out there towards that white line is the leader of Katarina

:55:21. > :55:27.Johnson Thompson. Jazmin Sawyers is a junior medallist in 2012. She is

:55:28. > :55:31.coming well -- coming good. A good take-off and good height. A lot of

:55:32. > :55:36.spare. 20 centimetres to add to whatever this is measured that is

:55:37. > :55:41.her potential today for sure. That is the nature of the first round,

:55:42. > :55:43.you just want to get one in and take the pressure. 6.23 puts in third

:55:44. > :55:54.place. It will be interesting to see if any

:55:55. > :56:00.of these athletes can get close to the time set by CJ Ujah in that

:56:01. > :56:06.first race. He looked very comfortable.

:56:07. > :56:11.Yes, let us tidy up the results. 10.16 was impressive and behind that

:56:12. > :56:16.was James Ellington who came third. A new personal best for the Army

:56:17. > :56:27.champion Ramon Smith. Those are the two fastest losing spots at the

:56:28. > :56:34.moment. The challenge is laid down to the likes of Harry Aikines

:56:35. > :56:39.Aryeetey who goes here. Mark Lewis-Francis is a proud record to

:56:40. > :56:48.maintain. He has been into the 100 metres final at all of the

:56:49. > :56:57.championships he has competed in. The second of the three semifinals.

:56:58. > :57:04.Kiran Showler-Davis Basingstoke is some way off his best this season.

:57:05. > :57:14.Kyle Ennis was disqualified in the final of the 200 metres. He did a

:57:15. > :57:19.false start. 10.65 this season. The imposing bulk of Harry Aikines

:57:20. > :57:27.Aryeetey. He is going well this season.

:57:28. > :57:38.Richard Kilty. He never gets tired of hearing world indoor champion in

:57:39. > :57:45.the introduction. He did 10.12 in Florida last month. Aidan Syers is

:57:46. > :57:50.31 years old today. He is a Welsh in the champion for the third time this

:57:51. > :57:54.season. He was one second behind Richard Kilty in the heats. Mark

:57:55. > :58:01.Lewis-Francis is also an old man now, he is 31. He is only one of --

:58:02. > :58:02.he is the only one of that winning relay combination that is still

:58:03. > :58:25.running. That is Dewi Hammond from Cardiff.

:58:26. > :58:31.He has lowered his personal best to 10.35 but he will need at least that

:58:32. > :58:42.to live with the likes of Richard Kilty and Harry Aikines Aryeetey.

:58:43. > :58:54.They all noticed the time of CJ Ujah in the first semifinal.

:58:55. > :58:59.Richard Kilty and Harry Aikines Aryeetey are battling it out. Harry

:59:00. > :59:02.Aikines Aryeetey is pulling away and Richard Kilty are staying with him

:59:03. > :59:08.but Harry Aikines Aryeetey is high stepping his way to the line. 10.16.

:59:09. > :59:13.The wind was a little bit gentler behind but he ran a bit harder

:59:14. > :59:16.through the line perhaps. Very impressive nevertheless from Harry

:59:17. > :59:22.Aikines Aryeetey and Richard Kilty is safely through automatically as

:59:23. > :59:32.well. I think the PB for Harry is under the ten mark this year. He has

:59:33. > :59:34.been able to refocus and he is a genuinely world-class sprinter

:59:35. > :59:41.again. We saw him as a youth doing very well and as a junior doing very

:59:42. > :59:43.well but in the senior ranks he struggled a bit but this was a

:59:44. > :59:49.really good run by him. It was aggressive out of the blocks anti-on

:59:50. > :59:52.in there. He knows Richard Kilty gets a good start because he is the

:59:53. > :00:00.world champion and he would get that. He starts well and drives

:00:01. > :00:53.himself through the line. It was a good performance.

:00:54. > :00:58.selection for the European Championships, but the big news for

:00:59. > :01:05.the Commonwealth games is that a setting Usain Bolt has said he is

:01:06. > :01:09.available for selection. I mean, what that will do for the event, I

:01:10. > :01:14.cannot put it into words. It is cannot put it into words.

:01:15. > :01:23.brilliant, if he was to decide to race. It would only be the relay.

:01:24. > :01:29.But still, people like to see no matter what he is doing. It will be

:01:30. > :01:35.great for the event. Even if he just ran in the heats for the relay.

:01:36. > :01:40.Slightly worrying times, he has not competed this season at all. He is

:01:41. > :01:50.such a big name for the sport, it is a bit like Tiger Woods not playing

:01:51. > :01:55.golf. He brings that gravitas, that sense of occasion whenever he is in

:01:56. > :01:59.any stadium around the world. Yes, we would love his presence at the

:02:00. > :02:06.Commonwealth games. It would be fantastic. For him, it is not quite

:02:07. > :02:12.there for him this season. He would like to race, but he must be tired.

:02:13. > :02:16.He's had a forlorn couple of years. These athletes are human. You can't

:02:17. > :02:26.keep asking them to give these times and break these records. The final

:02:27. > :02:41.semifinal of the men's 100 metres is coming up. Dwain Chambers is toward

:02:42. > :02:48.the end of his career, I think. He's still here and you can write him

:02:49. > :02:51.off. He wants to be on that plane to Z?rich. But he as to

:02:52. > :02:57.off. He wants to be on that plane to young people at their prime.

:02:58. > :03:12.Just get the result of the last semifinal. Mark Lewis Francis is not

:03:13. > :03:23.going to be put through. But Aikines-Aryeetey and Richard Kilty

:03:24. > :03:28.are in good shape. What can these guys do here? Chambers is in lane

:03:29. > :03:54.four. We have a nonstarter in lane one. So, that first lane is empty.

:03:55. > :03:59.Andrew Robertson has been selected to go to the Commonwealth games as

:04:00. > :04:07.part of England's relay squad. That is a pretty good achievement. Dwain

:04:08. > :04:26.Chambers has won this title for the last four years, in fact five out of

:04:27. > :04:33.the last six years. He is 36 now. Kieran Daly has had three personal

:04:34. > :04:51.bests this year. He is having a great year, a big improvement from

:04:52. > :05:08.last season. So, just to reiterate, the top to go through and the two

:05:09. > :05:19.fastest losers. Kieran Daly has thrown himself into the next with

:05:20. > :05:21.10.18. Chambers has only run 10.24. The first job is to get to the

:05:22. > :05:42.final. Andrew Robertson got a really good

:05:43. > :05:48.start alongside Chambers. Chambers gets it from Robertson. 10.12.

:05:49. > :05:55.Unfortunately for him, the wind just picked up. He won't know that yet.

:05:56. > :06:03.He will look at the clock and think years got the qualifying time.

:06:04. > :06:10.Unfortunately, that wind means he won't have got a legal run. But it

:06:11. > :06:16.will give him confidence. That is on par with what we saw from the other

:06:17. > :06:26.two semifinals. Indeed. He got a very good start. This was a tough

:06:27. > :06:30.semifinal heat. You can imagining -- imagine him questioning himself

:06:31. > :06:37.against these youngsters. But he called on all his experience, and

:06:38. > :06:44.what a good victory. Unfortunately, as you mentioned, it will not count

:06:45. > :06:58.as a legal performance. But when you talk about pure competitiveness, he

:06:59. > :07:04.certainly demonstrates that. What will this do for Chijindu Ujah? It

:07:05. > :07:09.must send a sign to the others. It will make all the others anxious.

:07:10. > :07:12.They will wonder, what will Dwain Chambers do win the final? If he

:07:13. > :07:27.really wants to push themselves, he will challenge them. Coming up,

:07:28. > :07:38.Jessica Judd and Lynsey Sharp in the women's 800 metres. So, three very

:07:39. > :07:51.interesting semifinals, not least the last one with Dwayne. A bit of a

:07:52. > :07:55.windy run, but didn't he just do the job? We love clear favourite in

:07:56. > :07:59.events, but we love it when it is competitive, when you don't really

:08:00. > :08:07.know who will win. I think the men's 100 is very much that today. Yes, I

:08:08. > :08:16.made it a mistake by calling it before the event. People keep

:08:17. > :08:19.writing him off. You mustn't make that mistake. He does elevate his

:08:20. > :08:34.game when it matters, especially when it comes to selection time. So

:08:35. > :08:44.he was the surprise package. What did you make of Ujah? He is great

:08:45. > :08:51.out of the blocks, great transition. What do you think about his

:08:52. > :08:58.thinking, having seen Dwain Chambers? The athletes will go and

:08:59. > :09:04.find a quiet place to rest. The coaches will come and say, look,

:09:05. > :09:10.this is the situation. They will get their lane draw. And then it is

:09:11. > :09:19.like, what do they do? Be attacking, aggressive, run hard. Try not to

:09:20. > :09:30.think too much about him. It will be fantastic. A very fast race but with

:09:31. > :09:52.a bit more breeze behind Dwain Chambers. We look forward now to the

:09:53. > :09:59.women's 5000 metres final. A great mixture, lots of contenders who will

:10:00. > :10:10.be running the Commonwealth games. Joanne Pavey is perhaps the woman to

:10:11. > :10:17.beat. Helen Clitheroe as well. LA Law Kirk will be running for Wales

:10:18. > :10:24.in the Commonwealth games. Four of the runners here have the standard

:10:25. > :10:42.for Z?rich. It would have been five, but Julia Bleasdale will not be

:10:43. > :10:53.running. It is that blend of athletes who done it before, like

:10:54. > :11:07.Helen Clitheroe, and then Emelia Gorecka, such a talent. A great

:11:08. > :11:24.cross-country runner as well, starting to establish itself on the

:11:25. > :11:28.track. There is Joanne Pavey, 40 years old, but still the woman to

:11:29. > :11:39.beat. She knows how to control these races. Three times UK champion. And

:11:40. > :11:43.Helen Clitheroe, a number runner of great experience. Selected by

:11:44. > :12:01.England for the 5000 metres for the Commonwealth games. Also interesting

:12:02. > :12:19.to see how some of the others get on. 12.5 laps of the track in this

:12:20. > :12:33.event. The sun is out, a welcome sight here. Steph has not signed up

:12:34. > :12:36.for this race, so hopefully she is OK and just concentrating on the

:12:37. > :12:45.events she has been selected for in the Commonwealth Games. Yes, she was

:12:46. > :12:57.pre-selected. Steph will be running another day. Joanne Pavey

:12:58. > :13:03.pre-selected. Steph will be running to control it. All that experience

:13:04. > :13:07.really does pay. Yes, she has the qualifying time, as do for woman in

:13:08. > :13:10.this race. So they don't need to run fast, but of course there are those

:13:11. > :13:14.two automatic running places at stake which they will want to

:13:15. > :13:18.secure. I think a lot of the girls in this field will be looking to

:13:19. > :13:36.head to dominate and almost did take this race. You can see nobody is

:13:37. > :13:48.keen to go in front of her. Elle Vernon is on her shoulder. So,

:13:49. > :13:53.Joanne Pavey, champion over this distance in 2007, 2008 and 2012. In

:13:54. > :14:00.between, she has had a couple of children in 2009 and last year. So

:14:01. > :14:04.it is very possible to come back and run well after having children. It

:14:05. > :14:08.is possible and she has shown that. run well after having children. It

:14:09. > :14:27.She came back very well after her first child. I think MLE is not even

:14:28. > :14:31.a year old. -- Emily. I think she has surprised herself by coming out

:14:32. > :14:37.and running as well she did in the trials in Highgate in May. 32.11

:14:38. > :15:06.now. She dominated the race in windy conditions.

:15:07. > :15:09.still out in front. The great David Thompson has said recently that he

:15:10. > :15:17.thinks Katrina Johnson Thompson is the future of the sport. -- Daley

:15:18. > :15:21.Thompson. No relation by the way! This is her second jump of the

:15:22. > :15:26.competition and she already leads with her first effort which looks

:15:27. > :15:30.controlled and now she has brought herself at the opportunity to really

:15:31. > :15:35.put the hammer down hard and this is a lot more aggressive in the second

:15:36. > :15:40.round and that is huge! Wow! Katarina Johnson Thompson, it has

:15:41. > :15:46.been windy, I would say a 50% chance of that being a legal jump in terms

:15:47. > :15:50.of wins. Did she get the white flag) is good on the board. Great height

:15:51. > :15:59.and super-speed on the runway and hide from it. -- hi from it.

:16:00. > :16:08.Katarina Johnson Thompson. Yes! Look at that! 6.81, a lifetime best!

:16:09. > :16:13.Absolutely superb. The field is still running as a bunch here. Jo

:16:14. > :16:31.Pavey alongside Elle Vernon. Helen Clitheroe was bobbing along

:16:32. > :16:38.nicely in fifth place at the moment. Stephanie Twell is not here today

:16:39. > :16:41.but her training partner Emelia Gorecka has settled in nicely. She

:16:42. > :16:49.is along for the ride and not interested pushing the pace on.

:16:50. > :16:52.Charlie Perdue also trains in that group. She has had a rough time with

:16:53. > :16:59.injury but seems to be getting back to some sort of form. Laura Whittle

:17:00. > :17:03.is also selected for the Commonwealth Games for Scotland. She

:17:04. > :17:06.is not far off the qualifying time so if this pace were moving along

:17:07. > :17:11.inside that qualifying time she might have a chance here.

:17:12. > :17:19.Commonwealth Games athletes in this athletes, Emelia Gorecka, Laura

:17:20. > :17:23.Whittle, running for Scotland. Elinor Kirk is running for Wales and

:17:24. > :17:29.she will be running the 5000 on the 10,000 in Glasgow. It is still

:17:30. > :17:35.fairly bunched here. The pace is modest. I am just wondering who

:17:36. > :17:40.perhaps has the quickest finish of these athletes. It is a good

:17:41. > :17:45.question. In their heyday is probably Helen Clitheroe. She is the

:17:46. > :17:48.one that has the biggest range, although Joe also started out

:17:49. > :17:52.running extremely well in championships over 1500 metres and

:17:53. > :17:57.has a good turn of speed. Emelia Gorecka sewed she could -- showed

:17:58. > :18:01.she could finish fast last year when she grabbed a second and secured a

:18:02. > :18:06.second position. There should have been five athletes here with the

:18:07. > :18:11.qualifying standard for Europe and Julia Bleasdale is not running

:18:12. > :18:16.because of a injury from avoiding a dog in Richmond Park. Dogs are the

:18:17. > :18:20.natural enemy of runners but she is not here because of that. Yes, I

:18:21. > :18:24.think she was out on one of her last runs before flying out to represent

:18:25. > :18:27.us in the European team Championships last weekend and she

:18:28. > :18:38.just had to swerve to avoid the dog so hopefully she is fine. This is

:18:39. > :18:42.round three and Jazmin Sawyers, the city of Stoke athlete who we saw

:18:43. > :18:48.jump in the first round, that is her best so far. She is tracing the huge

:18:49. > :18:55.jump from Katarina Johnson Thompson. -- chasing. That took her to sixth

:18:56. > :19:01.place on the all-time list. It is back to Jazmin Sawyers to try and be

:19:02. > :19:05.lifted by that energy that undoubtedly comes off the back of

:19:06. > :19:09.the big jump like that. It looks a bit better. The white line is of

:19:10. > :19:18.course Katarina Johnson Thompson's leader balance way beyond 6.2 as we

:19:19. > :19:22.saw in the first round. She backed it up in the second round with just

:19:23. > :19:29.centimetres shy and has possibly taken it out. She was in fourth

:19:30. > :19:40.place going into the third round and she stays in that place with 6.49

:19:41. > :19:44.which is a season's best. The runners are just beginning to

:19:45. > :19:49.stretch a little bit out at the back but a familiar story up at the

:19:50. > :19:52.front. Elle Vernon is alongside Jo Pavey and this is going to be a

:19:53. > :19:58.decent race for this title which Jo Pavey has won three times. Emelia

:19:59. > :20:02.Gorecka is tucked in nicely behind. Jo Pavey is controlling the race.

:20:03. > :20:05.She has not done anything spectacular with the pace but she is

:20:06. > :20:09.turning the screw and stringing out the field and runners are starting

:20:10. > :20:15.to drop off the back and gaps are opening up a little bit. She was

:20:16. > :20:18.steady through the first kilometre and now she is winding it up a

:20:19. > :20:21.little bit more and the girls are starting to spread out a bit and

:20:22. > :20:30.struggle a little bit to stay with it. There is Laura Whittle alongside

:20:31. > :20:39.Jo Pavey and Emelia Gorecka, the class of the field is up at the

:20:40. > :20:44.front. There are six laps to go in this race and the pace just arts to

:20:45. > :20:48.lift a little bit. Joe is just starting to turn the screw and when

:20:49. > :20:54.the pace a bit and ask questions about. She leads the UK times so far

:20:55. > :20:59.this year, followed by Emelia Gorecka and then Julia Bleasdale.

:21:00. > :21:05.Julia is taking a bit of a risk if she was wanting selection over 5000

:21:06. > :21:09.metres by not being here in this race, she is counting on one of the

:21:10. > :21:14.others that those two will take the first two places here and maybe she

:21:15. > :21:17.is just sitting back and hoping she has selection over the 10,000 metres

:21:18. > :21:26.and doesn't want the 5000 metres in ceric. Jo Pavey, Laura Whittle,

:21:27. > :21:30.Emelia Gorecka all up at the front. A little gap almost opening up

:21:31. > :21:35.between the front four and Charlotte Perdue was trying to hang onto but

:21:36. > :21:41.the races lifting and the pace is lifting. They are having Jo Pavey

:21:42. > :21:44.sitting at the front and this is what we expected, she would dictate

:21:45. > :21:51.the pace and lifted slightly and you can see that gap between the first

:21:52. > :21:57.few just opening to three or perhaps a little more between the top four

:21:58. > :22:01.few just opening to three or perhaps and the rest. Anna Kirk is just

:22:02. > :22:05.realising that move was being made and the field was springing out a

:22:06. > :22:09.bit more and she had moved wide and got up there. She ran really well in

:22:10. > :22:16.Stamford earlier in the year two qualifying time 10,000 metres. She

:22:17. > :22:21.is looking to improve her 5000 personal best in the same manner. It

:22:22. > :22:26.is fitting that Elinor Kirk gets back there and Charlie Kirk is --

:22:27. > :22:34.Charlie Perdue is working very hard to stay up there. There are three

:22:35. > :22:38.English Pavey and Emelia Gorecka and Clitheroe and we have a decent race

:22:39. > :22:43.shaping up in the sunshine in Birmingham. Jo Pavey grit your teeth

:22:44. > :22:48.and driest Ashman tries to dig a little bit deeper and Emelia Gorecka

:22:49. > :22:53.is sitting alongside. That third kilometre was up to 3.07 and Jo

:22:54. > :22:57.Pavey lifted the pace and ask the questions and only these other for

:22:58. > :22:59.athletes have been able to stay with her and we see

:23:00. > :23:03.athletes have been able to stay with stretching going on there. Emelia

:23:04. > :23:09.Gorecka is able to go with, tracking Jo Pavey as she has done all through

:23:10. > :23:12.this race. Joe is an athlete she has really looked up to and in that

:23:13. > :23:25.respect she is a little bit nervous to go past her but she is also

:23:26. > :23:29.working hard to stay with her and at this stage I do not think she wants

:23:30. > :23:32.to and she is happy to sit there and hope that Jo Pavey will pull her

:23:33. > :23:35.clear so they will be clear of the field. Helen Clitheroe was trying to

:23:36. > :23:38.stay in touch and she can and should get to the last few laps then it

:23:39. > :23:40.will become easier for her to mount a challenge with her finishing lap.

:23:41. > :23:43.The group of five are in danger of becoming a group of two or three but

:23:44. > :23:46.Helen is enabling the other two to bridge the gap and it remains a

:23:47. > :23:49.group of five and Jo Pavey is still out in the front and setting the

:23:50. > :23:52.pace. Emelia Gorecka sits there all the while on her shoulder. Helen

:23:53. > :23:55.Clitheroe was working hard to stay there alongside Laura Whittle and

:23:56. > :23:59.Elinor Kirk just behind and these five are well clear of the rest.

:24:00. > :24:04.They bunched up a little bit round that bends and for the first time in

:24:05. > :24:08.the race Emelia Gorecka moved a little bit wide and I do not know if

:24:09. > :24:11.she was thinking she needed to go past Jo Pavey to keep up the

:24:12. > :24:16.increase in the tempo or she is just letting her know that she is there.

:24:17. > :24:22.A look at the European list this year and Jo Pavey is there and

:24:23. > :24:27.Emelia Gorecka is in fourth. Great Britain have great chances in Z?rich

:24:28. > :24:32.later this summer. Now Jo Pavey and Emelia Gorecka, now that gap begins

:24:33. > :24:36.to widen back to Helen Clitheroe. Helen Clitheroe is trying so hard to

:24:37. > :24:39.stay there, along with Laura Whittle and Elinor Kirk but it is still Jo

:24:40. > :24:45.Pavey and Emelia Gorecka and there is the gap that does now begin to

:24:46. > :24:48.open. This gap is opening up now into the back straight as they go

:24:49. > :24:53.into the wind which has dropped a little from earlier today but it is

:24:54. > :24:57.still a stiff breeze. There is a little bit more concentration and

:24:58. > :25:01.effort on the pace of Jo Pavey, the effort she is putting into it and

:25:02. > :25:05.trying to move clear to ensure this will not be a last lap burn up and

:25:06. > :25:10.these two will be clear. Helen Clitheroe working hard to try and

:25:11. > :25:13.close that gap but unfortunately a little bit too much has opened up

:25:14. > :25:18.now and she may find it hard to get back up to these two. Emelia Gorecka

:25:19. > :25:34.is working hard on the shoulder of Jo Pavey but also getting a nice

:25:35. > :25:36.ride along and tucked in behind and perhaps biding her time. It will be

:25:37. > :25:39.interesting to see who has the quicker finish because it is surely

:25:40. > :25:41.now between these two. Jo Pavey is a veteran and Emelia Gorecka is a very

:25:42. > :25:44.talented young the start -- youngster. 3.05 for the fourth

:25:45. > :25:47.kilometre and the pace is ticking up all the time. Joe is so experienced

:25:48. > :25:50.and she is in very good pace but it is hard for the rest of the field

:25:51. > :25:54.and that is starting to tell a little bit on the others and

:25:55. > :25:58.certainly on Emelia Gorecka who is now moving wide just again to show

:25:59. > :26:03.Jo Pavey that she is still there. If she wants to get rid of her before

:26:04. > :26:08.the last lap there is a bit more to do. Helen Clitheroe has dropped and

:26:09. > :26:12.Laura Whittle disappears and now it is just these two, the 20-year-old

:26:13. > :26:16.Emelia Gorecka and the 40-year-old Jo Pavey. Great talents at the

:26:17. > :26:23.opposite ends of their careers but still the title is to fight for and

:26:24. > :26:28.Jo Pavey all the time sits out at front. She has led from the start

:26:29. > :26:33.but Emelia Gorecka sits there, the threat and the Minister Jo Pavey as

:26:34. > :26:37.she looks for a fourth title. She is ominous on the shoulder and there

:26:38. > :26:41.she goes past. I think she doubts her finishing speed over that Jones

:26:42. > :26:45.says she wants to put a longer run for home and put a bit of effort

:26:46. > :26:52.into this first bend and try and get daylight between them before they

:26:53. > :26:57.hit the back straight and 200 metres to go. Does Jo Pavey have a response

:26:58. > :27:02.sitting there? She is held to metres behind and Emelia Gorecka tries to

:27:03. > :27:06.open the gap but it is not opening. Jo Pavey is sitting ominously that

:27:07. > :27:11.into the back straight and into the wind and Jo Pavey, you can see the

:27:12. > :27:14.pain and effort on her face. Emelia Gorecka has an easy style but Jo

:27:15. > :27:17.Pavey is still there. Gorecka has an easy style but Jo

:27:18. > :27:22.20-year-old is trying to hold off Jo Pavey but she will not go away.

:27:23. > :27:29.Around the bend for the final and here goes Jo Pavey. Does she

:27:30. > :27:34.have a kick? Emelia Gorecka tries to respond. Jo Pavey sitting on our

:27:35. > :27:39.shoulder. Around the outside and gritting her teeth and now for the

:27:40. > :27:43.kick and looking for a fourth title but Emelia Gorecka responds. A

:27:44. > :27:47.cracking race into the home straight. Jo Pavey tries to get

:27:48. > :27:52.ahead again but Emelia Gorecka holds off for the line and Emelia Gorecka

:27:53. > :27:58.will take it. A wonderful race but the victory goes to Emelia Gorecka.

:27:59. > :28:05.It is Laura Whittle coming through for third place but a long way

:28:06. > :28:10.behind the two who battled out for the title. Emelia Gorecka with the

:28:11. > :28:15.victory, what a race. That was a great race. It was really good to

:28:16. > :28:19.see the two of them bear battling it down the home straight. Jo Pavey did

:28:20. > :28:23.everything right and she knew to check in behind as Emelia Gorecka

:28:24. > :28:25.came in front of her on the last lap and she just mounted a challenge but

:28:26. > :28:27.she unfortunately did not have the speed that she used to having her

:28:28. > :28:33.legs and she was not able to reel in speed that she used to having her

:28:34. > :28:38.a Emelia Gorecka who ends up with a national title at senior level. We

:28:39. > :28:40.talked about her talent in the seniors at cross-country in

:28:41. > :28:44.particular but now on the track it is beginning to blossom and we look

:28:45. > :28:48.forward to seeing her in the Commonwealth Games and the European

:28:49. > :28:52.Championships as well. It was a wonderful tussle. Here we see Joe

:28:53. > :28:56.Picard per pace and really try and get level with Amelia before she hit

:28:57. > :29:02.the home straight. She did everything right and we can just see

:29:03. > :29:08.the effort going into both of those runs for home but Jo Pavey had a bit

:29:09. > :29:11.of a surprise because she is trying to put a foot to the floor but is

:29:12. > :29:14.just not there lightly used to be but she ran extremely well and 65.34

:29:15. > :29:20.last lap for Emelia Gorecka there is great running. The effort was

:29:21. > :29:24.written large on the faces of the younger and the older athletes and

:29:25. > :29:29.it was a wonderful jewel between the two of them and it will not be the

:29:30. > :29:33.last national title I am sure that Emelia Gorecka wins. No fourth title

:29:34. > :29:38.for Jo Pavey. That title goes to Emelia Gorecka and we look forward

:29:39. > :29:43.to seeing that talent of being fulfilled and going on in the next

:29:44. > :29:46.few years as well as she runs in the Commonwealth Games as will Helen

:29:47. > :29:59.Clitheroe and Jo Pavey Emelia Gorecka is the winner and she is now

:30:00. > :30:05.talking to fail. What a performance. The determination on your face! I

:30:06. > :30:18.wanted to give it my all. It was the first time I had raised Jo and she

:30:19. > :30:24.is a legend. You blazed a trail on the track for us and now you are

:30:25. > :30:30.inspiring the next generation. It is so exciting to see them develop, new

:30:31. > :30:37.talent coming through. I'm really pleased for her, she had a great

:30:38. > :30:43.run. Were you always targeting the Commonwealth and the Europeans?

:30:44. > :30:50.Well, I was ill earlier so I was just taking every race as it came.

:30:51. > :30:55.Whatever I could get into, it's great experience. Just taking it how

:30:56. > :31:03.it goes, and it's gone well so far. We will see you in Glasgow and now

:31:04. > :31:09.Zurich. I will see if I get selected for both the Europeans. It might be

:31:10. > :31:16.a bit crazy to double both. I've been in contact with the selectors.

:31:17. > :31:22.I think tomorrow I will be able to give them an answer. I certainly

:31:23. > :31:29.wouldn't take anyone's place if I was only planning to do one of the

:31:30. > :31:34.champions. Doing it at 40 with two kids, I've got to be pleased, you

:31:35. > :31:42.know? You are an inspiration to everybody. Thank you both.

:31:43. > :31:59.Now, the men's 110 meter hurdles promises to be just as dramatic.

:32:00. > :32:06.That is coming up. Let's return back to the women's 5000 metres. Paula is

:32:07. > :32:10.in the commentary box. If there was any advert for that race, it was the

:32:11. > :32:17.smile on your face. You really enjoyed it. Yes, it is great to see

:32:18. > :32:25.young talent coming through, great to see Jo still out there. She talks

:32:26. > :32:36.about not taking anybody's plays away, she would never do that, but

:32:37. > :32:40.she has inspired so many people. Talking about Emelia, she did not

:32:41. > :32:54.get rid of Jo. She still had to kick. Yes, it was a bit reminiscent

:32:55. > :32:58.of Laura Weightman's when yesterday. Jo did everything right, she was on

:32:59. > :33:02.the right positions, but Emelia had that little bit more speed and was

:33:03. > :33:09.able to hold that daylight she had gained earlier. That is a strong

:33:10. > :33:23.finish, to be able to run that at the end of the 5000 metres. That is

:33:24. > :33:29.a step forward for her. Paula, you are still training and hoping to

:33:30. > :33:35.run, just give us an update. Yes, I'm still planning to come back out

:33:36. > :33:40.and finish off my career racing, but unfortunately I won't run quite as

:33:41. > :33:53.fast and I'm not sure I can go and do what Jo has done today. Well,

:33:54. > :34:00.huge respect. I think Jo is fantastic. She always gives 100%.

:34:01. > :34:06.She is gritty. To come back after two kids! Now, the men's 1500

:34:07. > :34:16.metres. Don't let Paula kid you, she gave

:34:17. > :34:27.Laura Weightman a run for the money this morning. So, Emelia Gorecka

:34:28. > :34:37.with that winning time. We will see more of her that -- this summer. So,

:34:38. > :34:41.that men's 1500 metre race. A great result for the women yesterday, and

:34:42. > :34:46.we are hoping for something similar here today. The overall quality is

:34:47. > :34:51.perhaps not quite as good. Charlie Grice is the standout athlete of the

:34:52. > :34:59.year, the only one that has the qualifying time of 3.37.5. The

:35:00. > :35:02.interesting thing is whether any of the other guys want to try to take

:35:03. > :35:09.it out, to attempt to get close to that qualification time. They need

:35:10. > :35:23.to cement a top that qualification time. They need

:35:24. > :35:29.them a chance. Chris Warburton in days gone by with a thought about

:35:30. > :35:35.his chances here. William Paulson is just 19 years old. Frank Baddick

:35:36. > :35:45.finished strongly in the heats yesterday. And Cameron Boyek is also

:35:46. > :35:49.having a good season. So, plenty of developing athletes, none more so

:35:50. > :36:00.than Charlie Grice. Just 20 years of age, a real talent. His coach is

:36:01. > :36:11.doing a great job. He will be the favourite. Three and three quarters

:36:12. > :36:12.laps of the track, as usual. So we're probably not expecting to

:36:13. > :36:20.faster pace. I we're probably not expecting to

:36:21. > :36:32.be to finish in the top two. They all know C is the man to beat. There

:36:33. > :36:47.was a real scramble for the Linux in the heats. Yes, it will be

:36:48. > :36:54.interesting how Charlie runs this. Everybody is looking to them. He is

:36:55. > :37:00.confident but also he will be nervous about this. If you were

:37:01. > :37:04.watching the European team Championships last week, he ran

:37:05. > :37:11.bravely and probably went a bit too hard too soon. I think he learned a

:37:12. > :37:16.little bit from that, and that is what he needs. When you go up a

:37:17. > :37:20.level, you end up in fast levels all the time trying to chase times, and

:37:21. > :37:25.that's great, but you need to learn how to get through the rounds, how

:37:26. > :37:29.to get through races like this when you are the favourite, get tactics

:37:30. > :37:38.right and use your head. He is in a good spot in third place at the

:37:39. > :37:42.moment. The others are gathering behind Charlie. I said to him, you

:37:43. > :37:48.will know they will be watching you. That is what they are doing.

:37:49. > :37:53.Yes, it is a good opportunity for him to try different tactics. He was

:37:54. > :37:58.pleased last week that he tried something different, but a bit

:37:59. > :38:05.frustrated he mistimed his efforts. So we might see him try some

:38:06. > :38:21.indifferent today. -- something different. Charlie just eases

:38:22. > :38:34.himself out. Bishop will be fancying his chances. The tension just starts

:38:35. > :38:37.to build. Just nicely poised, Chris Warburton moving on his shoulder

:38:38. > :38:44.giving himself a chance. 500 metres to go. You can see everybody looking

:38:45. > :38:47.to each other trying to second guess when people might start making their

:38:48. > :38:54.moves as they come round towards the last lap. Cameron Boyek still

:38:55. > :39:03.leading when he has done on the start. Charlie is in the Purbeck

:39:04. > :39:10.placed a pounds -- the perfect place to pounce when he wants to. Now

:39:11. > :39:16.Charlie Grice just starting to extend. Chris Warburton follows

:39:17. > :39:20.them. And two of them go down, including Warburton. That was a push

:39:21. > :39:25.from the back that went through like a domino effect. Thankfully, Charlie

:39:26. > :39:33.Grice avoids it and he can stretch out in the front. Being followed by

:39:34. > :39:38.William Paulson the 19-year-old. Charlie Grice has got this all to

:39:39. > :39:46.himself, he is showing the ability and the classy as God. He won't know

:39:47. > :40:01.what has gone on behind him. -- and the class he has got. Well, last

:40:02. > :40:05.year it was drama in the women's 1500. Thankfully the main contender

:40:06. > :40:13.this time safely got through, but it was so close. I'm not sure if he is

:40:14. > :40:17.aware of what has happened. Hopefully we can get another look at

:40:18. > :40:23.what happened. Just a bit of pushing and shoving. David Bishop tries to

:40:24. > :40:32.go through and just gives someone a shove. Did almost grab at the calf

:40:33. > :40:37.of Charlie Grice. Chris Warburton going down and Alex Toby, I think. A

:40:38. > :40:43.lot of athletes jumping. That buyers the adrenaline. I think Charlie will

:40:44. > :40:48.have sensed some of that and it will have given him some impetus. He is

:40:49. > :40:52.lucky that you did go early because he was clear of that. Richard Peters

:40:53. > :40:58.was caught up in it and had too much to do going into the last 100

:40:59. > :41:08.metres. But Charlie away and clear and looking strong in these last 100

:41:09. > :41:17.metres. You will be pleased to know he ran 53.74 in the last lap, most

:41:18. > :41:20.of that in the last 200 metres. Tremendous performance. What was it

:41:21. > :41:28.like to come into that as the clear favourite? Obviously I felt a bit of

:41:29. > :41:33.pressure but I'm so happy to win my first title. It feels like a long

:41:34. > :41:40.time coming. Well, you say that, you are not even 21! Yes, but I put a

:41:41. > :41:50.lot of pressure on myself. I'm happy to have got it done. What will you

:41:51. > :41:54.do between now and the next event? It is an odd year with two

:41:55. > :41:58.championships. So I go back into some hard training and then I'm

:41:59. > :42:03.doing the Glasgow Diamond League. Hopefully that will set me up for

:42:04. > :42:12.the Commonwealth Games. Thank you the talking to us. Congratulations.

:42:13. > :42:18.So much has been said about Thompson Johnson but watch out for this young

:42:19. > :42:26.athlete competing in the long jump. Already a personal best in the first

:42:27. > :42:37.round. That looks as though it may even be better. Morgan Lake was

:42:38. > :42:40.devastated after a slightly below par high jump yesterday, but that

:42:41. > :42:47.looks good. Great height of the board. Just 17 years of age,

:42:48. > :43:01.smashing all the records that Johnson Thompson has said. 6.32, a

:43:02. > :43:12.lifetime best again in the fourth round. Fantastic stuff. We heard all

:43:13. > :43:17.about the problems Sayers has had. A screw came loose that was put in,

:43:18. > :43:25.she has had lots of surgery. We just want her to stay in one piece! Wow,

:43:26. > :43:30.that is impressive. Towards 60 metres. I suspect that puts the

:43:31. > :43:43.competition to bed in terms of the wind. Certainly worth a bit of good

:43:44. > :43:58.luck after what has been a terrible couple of years. Good stuff for

:43:59. > :44:04.Sayers. 45 minutes to go here and Birmingham. These are the headlines

:44:05. > :44:08.so far. Ujah is the latest British athlete to go sub ten. He made it

:44:09. > :44:16.through to the final which is in half an hour or so. We weren't sure

:44:17. > :44:20.what to expect from Dwain Chambers. He ran the fastest qualifying time.

:44:21. > :44:29.Wind assisted, but don't count him out of it. And Johnson Thompson will

:44:30. > :44:36.whine a huge PB in the long jump, 6.81 metres. There is no stopping

:44:37. > :44:39.her. And a dramatic finish in the women's 5000 metres. Joanne Pavey

:44:40. > :44:59.was beaten by Emelia Gorecka. shortly with Jessica Judd going in

:45:00. > :45:01.this one. It should be a fascinating race.

:45:02. > :45:08.Yes, one of the highlights of the weekend. This is going to be a

:45:09. > :45:11.cracking final here. Jessica Judd is a burgeoning young talent. She is a

:45:12. > :45:17.bit like Charlie Grice in the men's 1500 metres. Just checking that win

:45:18. > :45:24.there. Well done to William Paulson in second place and Richard Peters

:45:25. > :45:32.took third. Chris Warburton and Alex Tobey did get up and finish after

:45:33. > :45:38.that form. Jessica Flood -- -- -- might Jessica Judd will be nervous

:45:39. > :45:44.here. Lynsey Sharp has been in great form this year. That is the full

:45:45. > :45:55.line-up for you. Alison Leonard has been going really well. A lot of

:45:56. > :46:00.women all within a second and a half or so of each other. Jenny Tan ran a

:46:01. > :46:05.personal best to get into the final but she is the slimmest in the

:46:06. > :46:11.field. Well done to her for making it through. -- the slowest in the

:46:12. > :46:15.field. Emily Dudgeon will be representing Scotland. It is a new

:46:16. > :46:19.personal best. The Commonwealth Games are providing a real spur and

:46:20. > :46:23.inspiration for many to lift their game and I am sure for Jenny Meadows

:46:24. > :46:28.just getting back onto the track this year was a relief. She is 33

:46:29. > :46:33.but she will not fight me for saying that. She looked superb and

:46:34. > :46:46.qualification. Alison Leonard was very impressive as well. She has run

:46:47. > :46:51.another personal best this year. We learned all about Jessica Judd last

:46:52. > :46:55.year, her ability and her mental strength and resilience and also her

:46:56. > :47:01.nervousness. She is sometimes a bit of a warrior and she will be

:47:02. > :47:06.worrying about this feels. Lynsey Sharp, the European champion from

:47:07. > :47:10.2012. Scotland will be looking to her to get a medal at the

:47:11. > :47:16.Commonwealth Games, just outside two minutes this year and getting better

:47:17. > :47:22.all season long. She a Knox and Clark ran a personal best earlier

:47:23. > :47:28.this year. She was unlucky not to make selection for the England team.

:47:29. > :47:32.Adelle Tracey ran well in America at the beginning of the season but she

:47:33. > :47:45.has not quite, from that. She has made a big step forward this year.

:47:46. > :47:52.Jessica Judd is looking on to take up -- looking to take on the other.

:47:53. > :47:57.Tactics will be really interesting here. We have Jenny Meadows and

:47:58. > :48:01.Jessica Judd who are front running and Lynsey Sharp likes to work off

:48:02. > :48:04.other people and your sidekick when she can. It will be interesting to

:48:05. > :48:08.see what they do and it looks as though Jenny Meadows and Jessica

:48:09. > :48:12.Judd or checking back and not really wanting to get out there. Jenny

:48:13. > :48:18.Meadows is moving over and looking for other people to take this. This

:48:19. > :48:21.is slower than we expected. It was always going to be interesting how

:48:22. > :48:25.this race would be run and we knew we would get a good idea in the

:48:26. > :48:28.first 200 metres. We have done that and the field have allowed Jenny

:48:29. > :48:31.Meadows to go to the front and control it but she did not go as

:48:32. > :48:35.fast as she did in the heats yesterday. Lynsey Sharp is in a

:48:36. > :48:39.position where she can cover every move but she is not interested in

:48:40. > :48:43.doing anything. She will leave it to the two at the front to dictate

:48:44. > :48:49.until they get into the last lap. Jenny Meadows is where she likes to

:48:50. > :48:53.be out in the front. It has been a fairly well judged first four metres

:48:54. > :49:01.-- 400 metres. Everybody is still involved. Alison Leonard is tucked

:49:02. > :49:04.on the inside. Oskann-Clarke is there as well. Jenny Meadows is

:49:05. > :49:08.there to be shot at but I am sure she is saving something here because

:49:09. > :49:12.the pace is not quick. Jessica Judd things enough is enough and she

:49:13. > :49:16.decides to have a go and Jenny Meadows cannot hold her off. She

:49:17. > :49:19.goes passed easily and Lynsey Sharp look strong as well. Jenny Meadows

:49:20. > :49:28.is picking up again and tried to hold the inside but Jessica Judd

:49:29. > :49:32.will cut her off. And look at Lynsey Sharp. She is past Jessica Judd and

:49:33. > :49:37.the slow pace is helping Lynsey Sharp. Jessica Judd is going

:49:38. > :49:41.backwards a bit. Lynsey Sharp is kicking from the front and Alison

:49:42. > :49:45.Leonard is moving into second place. Jenny Meadows is fighting for the

:49:46. > :49:49.top two but it is going to be Lynsey Sharp tying up a little bit but she

:49:50. > :49:55.has got this one easily. That is a great win for the Scot. Alison

:49:56. > :50:00.Leonard second place. A British champion. The first time under two

:50:01. > :50:06.minutes, perfectly judged perfectly run. Well done, Lynsey Sharp. A

:50:07. > :50:13.great runner. A great run by Alison Leonard who will have run a personal

:50:14. > :50:19.best there. Her personal best standard 2.01 .81. She bided her

:50:20. > :50:23.time and came through very strongly in the last hundred metres. We saw

:50:24. > :50:26.Jessica Judd slip uncharacteristically backwards that.

:50:27. > :50:29.Coming into the last lap I think Schumacher effort and the back

:50:30. > :50:33.straight and she is paying for it a bit here. You can see the anguish on

:50:34. > :50:37.her face and she is not finding the extra gear that she is accustomed to

:50:38. > :50:41.finding in the home straight. Jenny Meadows moves wide because she can

:50:42. > :50:44.feel the challenge from Alison Leonard on her outside the Alison

:50:45. > :50:46.Leonard just has more power and strength and is moving away and

:50:47. > :50:51.closing down on Lynsey Sharp at that race and control and that was

:50:52. > :50:58.well-deserved. I will try to interrupt you because the stop --

:50:59. > :51:03.clock stopped before she crossed the line because although both she and I

:51:04. > :51:09.celebrated under two minutes it was actually more than two minutes so

:51:10. > :51:15.before we carry on it was a great win nonetheless. My apologies to

:51:16. > :51:18.Alison Leonard as well for giving her a personal best because she just

:51:19. > :51:24.missed it by two hundredths of a second. That is a shameful sub I

:51:25. > :51:28.hope someone goes down and tells Lindsay that the clock unfortunately

:51:29. > :51:37.stopped early but nonetheless that is a great win for her.

:51:38. > :51:41.Lindsay is here now and there had to break the disappointment of the time

:51:42. > :51:44.that Steve just mentioned so commiserations on the time at least

:51:45. > :51:49.but nonetheless, first place, tremendous run, he pitched it

:51:50. > :51:54.beautifully tactically as well. You get to defend your European title

:51:55. > :51:58.which is great. Yes, there are only a few people who really know what

:51:59. > :52:01.I've been through in the last year and that is why today means so much

:52:02. > :52:07.to me. I have had the most horrific 12 months and that meant absolutely

:52:08. > :52:15.everything to me. Anything you can share with us? I had surgery twice.

:52:16. > :52:19.Hospitalised on alive the drip and I still have to have surgery at the

:52:20. > :52:23.end of the season so... You have been through it to say the late, but

:52:24. > :52:26.nonetheless what a year you have ahead of you. All of it will be

:52:27. > :52:30.worth it for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the Europeans and you

:52:31. > :52:34.get to defend your title. Yes, I think a lot of people had written me

:52:35. > :52:37.off but I am just so happy to be here competing and enjoying myself

:52:38. > :52:42.and that is the main thing. I am loving it. We saw the moving

:52:43. > :52:46.ceremony earlier in the year when your dad was with you and I know

:52:47. > :52:50.that title will mean a whole lot to you and it is great that you will be

:52:51. > :52:54.there. Back then I was just getting back into running and trying to be

:52:55. > :52:58.positive and making out that everything was fine and it really

:52:59. > :53:02.was not what it was a great start to the late and I think it was a nice

:53:03. > :53:05.tone to start the year one push on from there. It is a real credit to

:53:06. > :53:10.you that you have got to this point and won the title, congratulations.

:53:11. > :53:16.Can I say that you two are all the videos and everyone in British

:53:17. > :53:20.athletics and all of the coaches! Do not go anywhere, the action is

:53:21. > :53:28.coming thick and fast and it includes the men's 100 metres with

:53:29. > :53:37.the top contenders for the title and there are places in Z?rich up for

:53:38. > :53:43.grabs. The men's hurdles have the finalists out now and the big news

:53:44. > :53:45.is that Andy Turner is not here. He has had long-standing issues with

:53:46. > :53:49.both the left and the right Achilles so maybe he felt summing in the

:53:50. > :53:53.semifinals. We do not know because it is a shame to miss him because

:53:54. > :53:57.this would have been right up his street. The most competitive race

:53:58. > :54:02.for him. This is not the end of his chances of going. No, he still has

:54:03. > :54:10.until the selection date as Steve Cram was saying. It is the 15th of

:54:11. > :54:19.July and he has until that time but selection for him will be until the

:54:20. > :54:22.13th so he needs to get into shape. That was a fantastic race we had

:54:23. > :54:26.there. Lynsey Sharp looks in fantastic shape and she showed it

:54:27. > :54:30.there. Yes, she looks in really good shape and some of that will be

:54:31. > :54:33.coming back from the frustration. She spoke about the problems she had

:54:34. > :54:36.suffered through the winter but she has got herself into great shape and

:54:37. > :54:40.she has got the Commonwealth Games in her home country to look forward

:54:41. > :54:44.to it so she is fired up and ready for that. The big shock was Jessica

:54:45. > :54:49.Judd. She really went backwards down the home straight and I guess there

:54:50. > :54:52.will be a lot of head scratching out whether there was an injury or an

:54:53. > :54:56.illness but there was a bit of a surprise. Steve alluded to at the

:54:57. > :55:00.start that Jessica Judd struggles along with nerves and she came into

:55:01. > :55:04.this with a lot of pressure on herself. She looked a little bit

:55:05. > :55:08.tight in qualifying yesterday and then there was a situation yesterday

:55:09. > :55:13.where all of the girls between the hate and final were asked to provide

:55:14. > :55:17.an anti-doping blood test so to sit still for two hours before they

:55:18. > :55:20.could go back and continue on from their recovery process and their

:55:21. > :55:24.focus on the final today and I may have affected Jessica Judd a bit

:55:25. > :55:29.more than the more experienced athletes. Now we will head to the

:55:30. > :55:38.women's long jump where couple of heptathlete doing amazing things.

:55:39. > :55:48.Jazmin Sawyers final attempt in this long jump -- Jazmin Sawyers final

:55:49. > :55:54.attempt in this long jump. It is the last attempts to really get close to

:55:55. > :56:06.Katarina Johnson Thompson's lead. 6.81. That is a decent jump again,

:56:07. > :56:16.what a super series of jumps. The height of the board there is really

:56:17. > :56:22.where she has got her distance. 6.7 -- 6.67 in 2012 is her lifetime

:56:23. > :56:33.best. 6.48. Just a centimetre short there but a great afternoon's work

:56:34. > :56:37.for Jazmin Sawyers. So, round six, last attempt for Katarina Johnson

:56:38. > :56:41.Thompson. A first batch of a personal best round to automatically

:56:42. > :56:43.qualifies her for the European Championships where she will also be

:56:44. > :56:50.able to compete in the high jump because she qualified there and also

:56:51. > :56:54.the heptathlon where she is the world leader. She had a successful

:56:55. > :57:02.win earlier this year. Her final attempt, can she extend her leading

:57:03. > :57:08.mark? She really goes quite quick. To know what, the landing gear just

:57:09. > :57:12.came down there. The fee just seem to cut the sand. Watch to see if she

:57:13. > :57:17.holds the leg shoot, she just seemed to drop that right leg, you can see

:57:18. > :57:24.the left leg way beyond her leading mark. She didn't quite time the leg

:57:25. > :57:27.shoot. The hang phase was good and the speed on the runway was good and

:57:28. > :57:32.that is great to see because there is much more there but a wonderful

:57:33. > :57:41.victory for Katrina Johnson Thompson and a personal best to boot.

:57:42. > :57:49.After a few shenanigans with the clock stopping before Lynsey Sharp

:57:50. > :57:54.crossed the line, that is the official time. Alison Leonard had a

:57:55. > :57:56.great second place and Jenny Meadows and Jessica Judd will be

:57:57. > :58:04.disappointed with their runs in third and fourth. A real shame that

:58:05. > :58:10.Andy Turner does not start in the final of the 110 metres hurdles. He

:58:11. > :58:15.has fought Achilles problems but the line here is still strong. Look at

:58:16. > :58:25.forward Ian Sharman who is the man to beat.

:58:26. > :58:29.We have another man who is sitting out the season that he is doing

:58:30. > :58:33.interviews. It is another big-name gun from the hurdling fraternity.

:58:34. > :58:44.Joseph Hylton goes here in lane one. David King is the longest --

:58:45. > :58:48.youngest man in the final. He has just turned 20 and years and under

:58:49. > :58:59.23 champion and he sneaked through as a fastest loser. Yannick Budd

:59:00. > :59:04.runs for Bristol and shares the same coach as the man outside him, the

:59:05. > :59:13.defending champion and certainly the man to beat on form as well, the

:59:14. > :59:19.quickest in qualifying. Smiley 's never too far away from his face.

:59:20. > :59:23.The man outside him as a threat. Very interesting because he will be

:59:24. > :59:26.running for Nigeria in the Commonwealth Games because he has a

:59:27. > :59:30.Commonwealth Games because he has Nigerian farmer -- father but he

:59:31. > :59:34.gives to wear British vest at the European Championships. He needs to

:59:35. > :59:39.meet the standard though. Lawrence Clarke looked good in his semifinal.

:59:40. > :59:51.He might need to go lower to threaten William Sharman. And a man

:59:52. > :00:07.who ran very well in the semifinal, a big personal best, Edirin Okoro. A

:00:08. > :00:13.lot of his family is here as well. He is on the outside because Andrew

:00:14. > :00:32.Turner, who would've started in lane eight, is just a set of loaning --

:00:33. > :00:53.lonely starting blocks. So, who can hang on to William Sharman in lane

:00:54. > :00:59.for? -- four? They rise cleanly, William Sharman just pulling away.

:01:00. > :01:07.Lawrence Clarke stumbles badly and hits a hurdle hard. William Sharman

:01:08. > :01:14.gets there for a handsome victory. He was so far clear of the best. And

:01:15. > :01:20.taking second place, Lawrence Clarke did ever so well to get that after

:01:21. > :01:30.stumbling. But no doubt at all about the winner. It is the man galloping

:01:31. > :01:34.in celebration. I think he is certainly now looking for the

:01:35. > :01:40.magical moment when he breaks the 13.2 barrier. Legally, that was wind

:01:41. > :01:49.assisted but I think he is managing to get there. He is running so well

:01:50. > :01:55.technically. Lots of people make mistakes at the end, but William

:01:56. > :02:04.Sharman is so clear. Head and shoulders above the rest. He is a

:02:05. > :02:11.true world class hurdler. Every time we go to Europe, people know who he

:02:12. > :02:15.is and expect him to perform well. He has demonstrated that time and

:02:16. > :02:19.again. It is great to see him back at his best, running better than he

:02:20. > :02:24.ever has before, being confident and believing in his abilities. I'm

:02:25. > :02:32.really looking forward to when he takes on Europe this year. His

:02:33. > :02:40.competitors have run slightly quicker but they are basically level

:02:41. > :02:50.pegging. He could do very well in search -- Zurich. And Lawrence

:02:51. > :03:02.Clarke came clattering through in a good second place. The British

:03:03. > :03:06.champion here with me. I had to chase you down. Well done, a

:03:07. > :03:12.tremendous performance in what is a season of great performances. Just

:03:13. > :03:16.happy to win that, really, because even though on paper I was predicted

:03:17. > :03:23.to win, you don't win until you have one. And there are some great

:03:24. > :03:39.competitors out there. I needed to do the job will stop -- the job. No

:03:40. > :03:42.mistakes allowed, basically. We saw Lawrence Clarke just getting second,

:03:43. > :03:50.but one mishap and you could be done. I was aware of Lawrence on the

:03:51. > :03:54.far side. I kind of took the pedal off the gas when I saw I was a bit

:03:55. > :04:02.in front, and then I thought, no, just keep pushing. If you want a

:04:03. > :04:07.fast time, you have to run the whole way. After the first round, I had a

:04:08. > :04:11.lot of recovery stuff to make sure I was ready for the final. And I ate

:04:12. > :04:15.too much so I didn't feel like running. I asked the team doctor

:04:16. > :04:26.what I should do, and the result was two fingers down the brunt of four I

:04:27. > :04:35.ran. I felt too heavy! -- down the throat before I ran. I wouldn't

:04:36. > :04:43.recommend it! Thank you very much for sharing that! Not a personal

:04:44. > :04:45.best because it was wind assisted, but a great run nevertheless.

:04:46. > :04:51.Lawrence Clarke gets the second automatic entry. I think this is the

:04:52. > :04:59.point where we say don't try this at home. Let's go to Colin Jackson in

:05:00. > :05:09.the commentary box. What does he need to do in order to make those

:05:10. > :05:13.small gains? If you can just improved by 100 per barrier, that

:05:14. > :05:21.gives you a 10th of a second, a huge margin when you think about it. So

:05:22. > :05:29.it is just about doing what he is doing, keep accurate, that time will

:05:30. > :05:36.come. Now, we will head out to the javelin to see how Sayers is doing.

:05:37. > :05:47.So, we saw had tentative first round throat. 58.54 was decent. This is

:05:48. > :05:52.her chance just to settle into a slightly more aggressive rhythm. She

:05:53. > :05:55.wants to get ready for the Commonwealth Games and of course the

:05:56. > :06:05.European Championship. She is capable of getting on the rostrum

:06:06. > :06:12.for both of them. 58 is a marker for world-class javelin for women.

:06:13. > :06:21.Again, slow with the running, turns side on. I have to tell you, that is

:06:22. > :06:27.good. It is beyond 60 metres. That is a good pro. I like what she's

:06:28. > :06:33.doing. She is throwing the javelin over the top rather than round the

:06:34. > :06:39.side. That is how you hurt yourself. Over the top is key for her

:06:40. > :06:52.stability and safety. A season 's best. That is a great throw in the

:06:53. > :06:56.fifth round. We have seen William Sharman defend her title, can Asha

:06:57. > :07:02.Philip do it in the women's 100 metres? Ashleigh Nelson will

:07:03. > :07:17.certainly have something to say about that. These are good times for

:07:18. > :07:26.women's sprinting in Great Britain. Desiree Henry goes in lane one, the

:07:27. > :07:35.18-year-old. Silver medallist last year over the longer sprint. Montell

:07:36. > :07:42.Douglas, the British record-holder. But that really did come out of the

:07:43. > :07:50.blue. Jodie Williams, very recently crowned the champion of the 200

:07:51. > :08:04.metres. Such an elegant style. And Bianca Williams, again a young

:08:05. > :08:11.talent. In lane five, Ashleigh Nelson. Same time as Jodie Williams

:08:12. > :08:17.in her heat. Again, looking strong. She's been selected by England for

:08:18. > :08:24.the Commonwealth. But the defending champion is Asha Philip. How fast

:08:25. > :08:33.can she go? Can she get close to 11 .2, perhaps? Sophie Papps finished

:08:34. > :08:39.well to make it to the final. She will run in the relay in Glasgow.

:08:40. > :08:46.And from the Trafford club, Louise Bloor. She will be in the England

:08:47. > :08:57.relay team at the Commonwealth Games. So, Desiree Henry, Jodie

:08:58. > :09:03.Williams, Bianca Williams, Ashleigh Nelson, Asha Philip, they all have

:09:04. > :09:07.the European standard already. These are good times for women's sprinting

:09:08. > :09:13.in the UK, as I said. It is all about the title here. And second

:09:14. > :09:14.place as well. Those are the two which will be automatically selected

:09:15. > :09:50.for Zurich. I think Bianca Williams jumped

:09:51. > :10:01.there. A Little Rock from Jodie Williams which triggered Bianca

:10:02. > :10:07.Williams. We're going to see what they will do officially. If anybody

:10:08. > :10:12.moves on the blocks, they are subject to disqualification. We are

:10:13. > :10:20.scanning on our computers to see what they will decide. So far, they

:10:21. > :10:28.are getting lane Ford to move from the blocks. Who is that? Bianca

:10:29. > :10:41.Williams. Reaction times are coming up. 0.62 for her. Anything under .1.

:10:42. > :10:48.Very sad for Bianca Williams. She up. 0.62 for her. Anything under .1.

:10:49. > :11:03.would be a threat with a fast start, but just to Sharp. Then there were

:11:04. > :11:04.seven. Again, that is all part of sprinting, compose yourself again.

:11:05. > :11:28.Asha Philip does just that. We try again, the women 100 metres

:11:29. > :11:34.final. Away this time and a good start from Jodie Williams. Asha

:11:35. > :11:42.Philip trying to hunt her down. Great finish. The winner is Asha

:11:43. > :11:50.Philip, the champion again. She had to work hard for it, but she takes

:11:51. > :11:58.it on the line. Wow, what a tremendous race.

:11:59. > :12:00.it on the line. Wow, what a strong start but she said earlier

:12:01. > :12:04.this year where we spoke to her that she seems to fall asleep in the

:12:05. > :12:09.middle of the race. I was worrying whether that would happen to have.

:12:10. > :12:14.In Oslo she came strong at the end and she did that again here. The

:12:15. > :12:20.wind was over the limit, unfortunately, but a very good

:12:21. > :12:24.competitive race all over. She gets into that beautiful stride and

:12:25. > :12:30.starts working. It is like someone wakes up. She moves away from the

:12:31. > :12:37.rest the field. Look at all these others right on her. A great

:12:38. > :12:42.competition. A real shame about the wind lifting, it really did lift.

:12:43. > :12:47.Ashleigh Nelson came through for second place. If the wind was below

:12:48. > :12:58.the legal limit, I'm sure Asha Philip could've got close to sub

:12:59. > :13:03.11.20. It was a great race. Asha Philip is one of these people who

:13:04. > :13:09.really gets into a beautiful, flowing, running action. That is the

:13:10. > :13:16.most important thing in sprinting. If you are a natural runner,

:13:17. > :13:23.everything is so smooth. This young lady is just going to go from

:13:24. > :13:26.strength to strength. Still waiting for confirmation on second and

:13:27. > :13:35.third, but Asha Philip is the champion. They want to know who is

:13:36. > :13:44.second and third! We don't have confirmation but we do know that you

:13:45. > :13:49.won it. My season has started so well and in the midst of it it did

:13:50. > :13:53.not go as I planned. Coming back here and retaining my title, that

:13:54. > :14:00.was the main aim. I'm a bit upset about the wind, but it is more than

:14:01. > :14:04.that. What is it like knowing there is so much strength and depth in

:14:05. > :14:11.British sprinting? It has happened so quickly. You are all there

:14:12. > :14:15.challenging each other. To be honest, it is great. We need it.

:14:16. > :14:22.We've always been out of the limelight. So we are pushing each

:14:23. > :14:29.other wrong. We're working hard together. Jodie Williams won the 200

:14:30. > :14:39.and hopefully she is second today. We need it. Congratulations, all the

:14:40. > :14:45.best going forward. Drama at the start with big disqualification of

:14:46. > :14:50.Bianca Williams. I have to say, I think that false start was prompted

:14:51. > :14:54.by Jodie Williams who was just on the inside. She seemed to twitch on

:14:55. > :15:01.the blocks which caused Bianca to go. A few nervous looks towards the

:15:02. > :15:03.starters. When the red flag went to Bianca, there was kind of a sense of

:15:04. > :15:16.relief. composure as an athlete. When

:15:17. > :15:19.someone does a false start then you have to to focus and regain

:15:20. > :15:23.composure as an athlete. When someone does a false start then you

:15:24. > :15:27.have two good result from one of the women. So, we have seen the fastest

:15:28. > :16:13.women and now it is time for fastest man.

:16:14. > :16:20.Who is your money on, Denise? I would go for Ujah, he looks great

:16:21. > :16:24.and he has the whole package for me. Whether he can keep his nerve and

:16:25. > :16:28.his composure, this title is important for these guys and it will

:16:29. > :16:33.be good to see who was the king of the sprints. Can he keep his nerve,

:16:34. > :16:40.Steve Cram? What a race we have in prospect. The

:16:41. > :16:46.old versus the new, is it simplify? Deji Tobias will be on the far side

:16:47. > :16:55.in lane one with Kieran Daly into, Andy Robertson, Dwain Chambers,

:16:56. > :17:07.here's an four and Ujah is in five and then Aikine Aryeetey, Richard

:17:08. > :17:14.Kilty and Sean Safo Antwi. This race always catches the

:17:15. > :17:18.attention and after the women's race which was so close, we're going to

:17:19. > :17:21.tidy that up in a minute, only the top two are guaranteed selection

:17:22. > :17:25.because most of the qualification mark and it may be the same here.

:17:26. > :17:30.The one man who does not have it is Dwain Chambers. Kieran Daly house.

:17:31. > :17:32.He has run 10.18 this year and he has been pushing himself forward. He

:17:33. > :17:40.is a new name really. has been pushing himself forward. He

:17:41. > :17:44.has been around a while. He made a blistering start in the semifinal

:17:45. > :17:48.and found itself in a good lane next to Dwain Chambers who somehow, from

:17:49. > :17:54.somewhere, manages to come to these championships and show them what to

:17:55. > :18:01.do. He did it again in the semifinal, didn't he? 10.12 with an

:18:02. > :18:04.illegal wind only slightly over the limit but Ujah, the man that all

:18:05. > :18:15.eyes have been looking towards this season, 996. What can he do here in

:18:16. > :18:20.the final? -- 9.96. Aikine Aryeetey ran very well. He was in the same

:18:21. > :18:25.race as CJ Ujah and he was disappointed with that. He said it

:18:26. > :18:31.was his chance to go below ten seconds and Richard Kilty the world

:18:32. > :18:35.indoor champion from Poland back in March. He got the qualification time

:18:36. > :18:45.early and has struggled a little bit in some of his races since then.

:18:46. > :18:51.Then let us not forget Sean Safo Antwi, training partner of CJ Ujah.

:18:52. > :18:56.He looks as though he is out in lane eight and they can forget about him

:18:57. > :19:00.but they might regret that. We are expecting the action in the middle

:19:01. > :19:08.lanes but Richard Kilty and Sean Safo Antwi will be having their eyes

:19:09. > :19:13.set on a top two place but it is going to be so close. Can Dwain

:19:14. > :19:20.Chambers do it again? He has won this in the last four years.

:19:21. > :19:28.Or, can CJ Ujah underline the obvious talent but he has, the

:19:29. > :19:34.European junior champion from last year.

:19:35. > :19:45.Away cleanly first time. Dwain Chambers is going to get it but here

:19:46. > :19:48.comes Harry Aikine Aryeetey. Dwain Chambers has done it again. 10.13.

:19:49. > :19:52.comes Harry Aikine Aryeetey. Dwain The wind is legal under time is

:19:53. > :19:56.legal and he is The wind is legal under time is

:19:57. > :20:00.They cannot find a way to beat him. Every year he comes to Birmingham he

:20:01. > :20:05.should just lift up this track and carry it around the world with him

:20:06. > :20:10.because this is where he runs best every year. I do not know what it is

:20:11. > :20:16.about these championships. He has not been running that well all

:20:17. > :20:19.season. He has been running 10.2 and 10.3 and all of a sudden in the

:20:20. > :20:23.semifinal he lifts himself and he gives them all summer to think about

:20:24. > :20:27.and I ask you in the semifinal what it would do to the mindset of the

:20:28. > :20:31.others, his performance, and I think it really set them back. Harry

:20:32. > :20:33.Aikine Aryeetey really finished well but the others did not perform to

:20:34. > :20:53.the level Aikine Aryeetey really finished well

:20:54. > :20:56.but the others that we would have hoped but he has done it again. In

:20:57. > :20:58.season 's best and he is going to the European Championships. I was

:20:59. > :21:00.talking to Darren Campbell, former European champion at the 100 metres

:21:01. > :21:03.and we were talking that if Dwain Chambers could just step on

:21:04. > :21:05.and we were talking that if Dwain guys and get half a metre in front

:21:06. > :21:07.of them by 40 or 50 metres he would be very difficult to beat because

:21:08. > :21:11.they will get nervous and anxious. They know his pedigree and they know

:21:12. > :21:13.why he can do and I think that is really what got to them. Wayne is a

:21:14. > :21:16.champion and he will always work hard. If he is in anywhere near a

:21:17. > :21:19.reasonable shape he will perform right on to that level and today it

:21:20. > :21:22.was an outstanding sprint from Dwain Chambers. He got into the lead quite

:21:23. > :21:25.quickly and look at his face. He is not going to give this up. He is

:21:26. > :21:29.working hard into the line and he is hungry for success and that is going

:21:30. > :21:36.to be the key. Everyone else around is just trying to fight, fight,

:21:37. > :21:39.fight while Dwain Chambers kept his mind and look at that response. He

:21:40. > :21:45.is so pleased with that performance. You have to hand it to him, 36 years

:21:46. > :21:49.of age and producing that sort of performance. A real performance of

:21:50. > :21:55.mental fortitude as well as running quick enough to get himself a

:21:56. > :22:09.guaranteed selection this year it. -- 40 it.

:22:10. > :22:13.-- for Zurich. It is a great track for you. Yes, it is a great track

:22:14. > :22:17.for me and a great track for British sprinting. Everything was timing

:22:18. > :22:20.right and it was perfect and I'm very happy. You are going to the

:22:21. > :22:24.European Championships, it was a legal time and everything came

:22:25. > :22:29.together. Thank God. I am happy I was able to deliver today. It was so

:22:30. > :22:33.hard. Harry, line you are thrilled as well because there was so much

:22:34. > :22:38.strength and depth and you are all pushing each other and this old guy

:22:39. > :22:43.he is still around. You know, I'm glad I had chicken this morning I

:22:44. > :22:46.have got strength. I do not know how he does it. I have been through this

:22:47. > :22:50.guy -- not with this guy through many years and last year he beat me

:22:51. > :22:54.before he beat me but I am coming for him at the end of the day this

:22:55. > :22:58.sport is amazing amazing in the sense that you have been through

:22:59. > :23:02.some hard times this year and the fact that his form was on today and

:23:03. > :23:05.I am happy what I have done and I am on a nice curve and I see myself as

:23:06. > :23:13.a developed athlete now and I'm trying to become a man and a respect

:23:14. > :23:16.for them all, just going out there performing and I put together three

:23:17. > :23:21.solid races and my start has improved and I say thanks to God and

:23:22. > :23:27.my family and everyone. Well done. A final word with you because we talk

:23:28. > :23:34.about the age thing but you are defying a year-on-year. How you able

:23:35. > :23:38.to direct? I watch Benjamin button. I don't have you seen it but I am

:23:39. > :23:44.getting younger in age and the experiences working for me. I want

:23:45. > :23:48.to say thank you to the shop and restaurant in Birmingham who gave me

:23:49. > :23:52.a free meal last night and it worked for me so I am grateful for that.

:23:53. > :23:59.Thank you for the support and I'm going to do the country proud for

:24:00. > :24:06.the championships. Well, well, well! Here we go again

:24:07. > :24:12.with the same result as last year in terms of the one and two. James

:24:13. > :24:19.Dasaolu may be running on Thursday night but what does that give these

:24:20. > :24:23.selectors something to think about? Talking about selection we can

:24:24. > :24:27.finally confirmed that the second place in the women's hundred metres

:24:28. > :24:31.final went to Ashlee Nelson who was given the same time as Jodie

:24:32. > :24:47.Williams but it went down to two 1000th of the second with Ashlee

:24:48. > :24:52.Nelson getting the second place. Confirmation of a victory for Goldie

:24:53. > :25:00.Sayers ahead of Izzy Jeffs and Joanna Blair. That is a great

:25:01. > :25:04.performance for Goldie. As Steve Cram said, well, well,

:25:05. > :25:09.well. Right on this very track not quite what we were expecting. It was

:25:10. > :25:14.not but we have said it to day that you cannot write Dwain Chambers. You

:25:15. > :25:19.just cannot do it. Especially here, especially when it is really tight

:25:20. > :25:25.for selection. He always seems to rise to the occasion and deliver the

:25:26. > :25:30.goods. Five times national champion, British champion, you cannot argue

:25:31. > :25:34.with those stats. We deliberated against -- about the Sainsbury's

:25:35. > :25:37.performance of the day but Dwain Chambers has thrown a spoke in it.

:25:38. > :25:41.We had picked Katarina Johnson Thompson but now you cannot really

:25:42. > :25:46.give it to anybody else. No, it is fitting that it should go to Dwain

:25:47. > :25:48.Chambers. The talk at all been about CJ and the young pretenders coming

:25:49. > :25:55.throughout the day deliver but on the day it was the old veteran. It

:25:56. > :25:59.certainly was. Colin, in the commentary box, Denise said

:26:00. > :26:04.beforehand could CJ Ujah keep his head? Do you think that perhaps he

:26:05. > :26:07.did not? Well, we know where he is capable of and we know the times

:26:08. > :26:11.that he can do and I think he did not run up to his form. Perhaps the

:26:12. > :26:16.pressure of Dwain Chambers delivering such a strong and bold

:26:17. > :26:20.message in the semifinal, it plays a bit into the young man's mind. There

:26:21. > :26:24.was a lot of pressure on him now after going under ten seconds so

:26:25. > :26:26.there is a lot of speculation on press media. It is all in his face

:26:27. > :26:29.and expecting press media. It is all in his face

:26:30. > :26:42.Dwain Chambers was able to sneak his way to the has been here before when

:26:43. > :26:44.he has to deliver the cute pressure. It is not really a surprise

:26:45. > :26:45.situation that has happened because Dwain Chambers has won the title yet

:26:46. > :26:47.again. way to the has been here before when

:26:48. > :26:49.He goes to the Europeans and Harry Aikine Aryeetey goes to the

:26:50. > :26:52.Europeans because he is second and now there is the selection dilemma

:26:53. > :26:57.of James Dasaolu coming back and CJ Ujah not. He may miss out. He is not

:26:58. > :27:00.going to the Commonwealth Games as an individual who might not get

:27:01. > :27:03.European Championships as an individual. That would be a tough

:27:04. > :27:06.thing for the young man because I would like to see him at a major

:27:07. > :27:09.championships and trying to perform under the new sensor pressure as a

:27:10. > :27:14.senior because we know he has won the junior chat that junior title

:27:15. > :27:17.but the seniors is something slightly different. Lausanne is a

:27:18. > :27:22.very different place to run as you know because you have been out on

:27:23. > :27:27.many occasions. It is a good opportunity for James Dasaolu to

:27:28. > :27:33.really show what form he in. Thank you very much indeed, Colin. Denise,

:27:34. > :27:37.the sun is out, what a weekend at has-been. We started talking about a

:27:38. > :27:41.man who had run under ten seconds and now we are talking met another

:27:42. > :27:44.man who worst run under ten seconds. Dwain Chambers has very much been

:27:45. > :27:53.the star of the show here in Birmingham. Goodbye.

:27:54. > :28:09.Jodie Williams gets it! A great win. Tom Powell Win stuff 5000 metres. --

:28:10. > :28:23.Tom Powell wins the 5000 metres. He is still the number one. Look at

:28:24. > :28:33.that! Six metres and 81 centimetres, lifetime best.

:28:34. > :28:35.A British champion. She is the champion again.
