:00:51. > :01:00.to live Diamond League athletics on BBC 36789 we are trackside in the
:01:01. > :01:04.Bislett stadium in Oslo. The Dream Mile features this evening. Plenty
:01:05. > :01:09.more beside and lots more apprenticeship interest. Even when
:01:10. > :01:14.we were competing, lots of Brits would come to Oslo? Yes, the
:01:15. > :01:17.promoters had a chat to each other and linked across. It worked well
:01:18. > :01:25.for our schedules and that's continued. We've got lots of Brits
:01:26. > :01:30.on show, which is good for us. One name in particular who has competed
:01:31. > :01:36.and perhaps we thought would never compete again is Phillips Idowu Yes,
:01:37. > :01:40.it was nice to see him competing but I think he would be disappointed
:01:41. > :01:45.with his performance. In training apparently he's had problem hitting
:01:46. > :01:51.the board. When you've missed a lot of competitions that is a mistake
:01:52. > :02:00.that can happen, but it was great to see him back. An athlete in the
:02:01. > :02:11.twilight of his career, and an extra pick Anzhi to this -- piquancy to
:02:12. > :02:26.this. In contrast Richard Kilty is the
:02:27. > :02:30.world indoor champion. He beat a stellar field to take that title,
:02:31. > :02:35.surprising many people in the audience watching. I think its will
:02:36. > :02:47.be time for Richard to think he needs to get under that 10. 1. 0
:02:48. > :02:57.mark. It is going to be tight. The women's 400 metre hurdles is our
:02:58. > :03:02.first event. Eilidh Child had a strong performance. She's one of
:03:03. > :03:07.these athletes you can really rely on. She is under a lot of pressure,
:03:08. > :03:10.because Scotland at the Commonwealth Games and that nation will be
:03:11. > :03:15.expecting her to deliver and do well. And Kaliese Spencer from
:03:16. > :03:45.Jamaica as well. Won in Rome last Friday, 53. 97.
:03:46. > :03:54.Kemi Adekoya, won Doha in a personal best. Beat Spencer there but hadn't
:03:55. > :04:01.raced since. Lane 6 is empty. Kori Carter a late
:04:02. > :04:05.withdrawal. Natalya Antyukh, big and powerful, very fast, a former indoor
:04:06. > :04:11.champion over the flat 400. Watch her. And in lane 8 is Shevon
:04:12. > :04:19.Stoddart. Her personal best goes back to 2005, nine years ago. She's
:04:20. > :04:27.coming back to something lows to her best. This is very much a clash
:04:28. > :04:32.between Kaliese Spencer, who won in Rome, and Kemi Adekoya, who beat
:04:33. > :04:38.Spencer in Doha three weeks ago but hasn't raced since. An interesting
:04:39. > :05:00.return to the racing fold for the Bahrainian. She is in five.
:05:01. > :05:05.anybody has gone off the quickest perhaps it is Adekoya in lane 5. The
:05:06. > :05:10.third lane is empty. In the red Adekoya moving well. Eilidh Child
:05:11. > :05:15.down the back straight. Runs so confidently. She said she's feeling
:05:16. > :05:22.really good about her hurdling at the moment. Child in the centre of
:05:23. > :05:29.the picture hurdling well, but Spencer beginning to surge there, a
:05:30. > :05:34.powerful Jamaican there. In lane 4 the powerful Adekoya. Passed by
:05:35. > :05:40.Spencer. Eilidh Child battling away. Tiffany Williams in the blue, but
:05:41. > :05:46.expense hear a battle on her hand. Adekoya trying to go... Oh my word.
:05:47. > :05:52.That camera angle is far from perfect but I think Spencer might
:05:53. > :05:58.have hung on. Adekoya certainly did effectively, her first race in three
:05:59. > :06:04.or four weeks. Spencer battling hard. Eilidh Child running really
:06:05. > :06:19.well. Adekoya rallied so well. She - but Spencer ran a very even paced
:06:20. > :06:23.race she has a good deal left in the final stages of the race to run them
:06:24. > :06:31.down. She wasn't really in it at 200 metres. That's exactly the way she
:06:32. > :06:36.ran in Rome, when she won there. The time is being diminished by this
:06:37. > :06:43.blustery wind. 54. 94 the time on the clock. Spencer is dominant at
:06:44. > :06:56.the moment. She leads the diamond race. 55. 33 for child, Colin. After
:06:57. > :07:00.a 54 last week in Rome, perhaps a little business disappointed? I
:07:01. > :07:06.think it is pretty blustery at the moment and that will have an effect
:07:07. > :07:12.on all the events today, especially the early events. It is early, it
:07:13. > :07:17.needs to calm down a little bit. That's why the dream run is at the
:07:18. > :07:22.end. It was gusting all over the place. I was standing at the start
:07:23. > :07:30.trying to work out what stride to do. I was trying to do 15 but I like
:07:31. > :07:37.a tailwind to do that. Round the bend it was so windy I don't even
:07:38. > :07:42.know what happened. It was a little bit messy. The conditions are
:07:43. > :07:48.important, because you never know what you will come up against in
:07:49. > :07:53.Scotland at Hampden Park, eh? Yes. It will give me an advantage in
:07:54. > :07:58.Glasgow. We are all in the same boat at the end of the day. Next up the
:07:59. > :08:01.you've got the European team championships chosen to do, that a
:08:02. > :08:07.lot of senior athletes have chosen to avoid that. You will go there as
:08:08. > :08:12.one of the veterans. How are you looking forward to that I love the
:08:13. > :08:20.European Championships. We are working as a team, and you don't get
:08:21. > :08:26.that very often in athletics. I am looking forward to it. Eilidh, good
:08:27. > :08:31.luck with that. Thank you. Eilidh Child third place in the 400 metre
:08:32. > :08:42.hurdles, but there's much more to come over the next couple of hours.
:08:43. > :08:46.We'll be looking tore 16 metres plus tonight. Allyson Felix crashed out
:08:47. > :08:52.of the World Championships last summer. Tonight it is 200 metres as
:08:53. > :09:03.her comeback continues. And that includes Britain's Jody
:09:04. > :09:21.Williams, who runs 100m alongside her team-mate Asha Philip.
:09:22. > :09:45.The Dream Mile is always one of the highlights here at Bislett.
:09:46. > :09:57.Do get in touch with us on social media. Colin has already put up a
:09:58. > :10:04.picture of me with my make-up on. We can't believe that the world
:10:05. > :10:10.record has gob. And in his -- the world record has gone. And in his
:10:11. > :10:15.home nation. After he did such a wonderful jump, we didn't see him
:10:16. > :10:19.again, because he injured himself. I think he will look forward to
:10:20. > :10:23.putting down the gauntlet to the rest of the athletes here, because
:10:24. > :10:28.he likes to demonstrate how good he is. He is a supreme athlete, a great
:10:29. > :10:34.competitor. I'm looking at the conditions. It is going to be a
:10:35. > :10:38.little bit blustery. Where the pole vault takes place is at an evening
:10:39. > :10:43.al, so it will be interesting to see how it affects their performances.
:10:44. > :10:51.And outdoors he hasn't yet cleared 6 metres? Not yet. Not yet. He will be
:10:52. > :10:55.looking forward to doing that. I think he will demonstrate he is more
:10:56. > :10:58.than capable of doing that. He will want to get close to his indoor
:10:59. > :11:10.best, which is the overall world record now. Bubka is here, Seb Coe
:11:11. > :11:15.is here, but the main guest gets a plate with their face on it. This
:11:16. > :11:20.time it is this man, Carl Lewis. One of the things we mentioned when he
:11:21. > :11:25.was doing this is his sense of self possession the Americans had. If we
:11:26. > :11:32.were in that car we would be embarrassed but he is lapping it up.
:11:33. > :11:37.It is a long time since he's been here, so there'll be great memories
:11:38. > :11:42.for Carl. The applause, he was milking that. The athletes based in
:11:43. > :11:46.the United States, rarely do they come to Europe and experience this
:11:47. > :11:52.atmosphere. They haven't done it for an age. He enjoyed it. He had a
:11:53. > :11:58.wonderful interview a back off that presentation. It was lovely to hear
:11:59. > :12:03.his voice. It was like a monologue. It is great to debate who is the
:12:04. > :12:10.greatest of all time. We always talk in this country who is the greatest
:12:11. > :12:17.Olympian, but in world athletics would it be Carl lieu is? The
:12:18. > :12:23.greatest greatest because he is the most medalled? It hat to be his 1984
:12:24. > :12:27.performance in Los Angeles, a home performance and a tough competition.
:12:28. > :12:32.He pulled out something that was, well, it has never been achieved
:12:33. > :12:36.since. He is right up there. But a lot of athletes could debate that.
:12:37. > :12:44.Usain Bolt, his performances are spirit special too. The other thing
:12:45. > :12:51.with Carl Lewis is four consecutive long jump titles, perhaps the last
:12:52. > :12:54.one, in Atlanta, beating Mike Powell, he perhaps shouldn't have
:12:55. > :12:58.won but did because of the strength of his personality. They asked him
:12:59. > :13:03.that same question, which one of those medals were the most
:13:04. > :13:07.important, and he said that in 1996 at leanta. He was 35 and he
:13:08. > :13:14.surprised everybody, including himself, he could win that title.
:13:15. > :13:16.Now the men's steeplechase. Watch out for the Kenyans in this one.
:13:17. > :13:36.Talk of a world leading time. Haron Lagat, the Kenyan, who has
:13:37. > :13:43.been asked to take the two months ice two minutes 42 the 2000. -- some
:13:44. > :13:50.pacemakers. Evan Jager, the American, broke the record in his
:13:51. > :14:02.first-ever 3000m steeplechase. There is Jager. Eight minutes six he ran
:14:03. > :14:08.in 2012. There is Kipruto. Lots of talent here, the Olympic champion in
:14:09. > :14:15.2008. Phil on the sixth lap when defending his title in 2012. Birech
:14:16. > :14:22.is in great form. He was fourth in Doha. Then he won in Rome and then
:14:23. > :14:28.the trials. There is Koech, steeplechase bronze Olympic
:14:29. > :14:35.medallist in 2004. He does not run very well at altitude. It is
:14:36. > :14:45.interesting to see Jager, how well he will go. He was third in the
:14:46. > :14:52.Diamond mile race, one of the long-distance races to suit all. We
:14:53. > :14:58.are looking for two minutes 40. That is eight minute pace, and that will
:14:59. > :15:05.tell us if they actually along with this. Koech is at the front, so is
:15:06. > :15:18.Birech. As long as they stay in contact with the serious pace. As
:15:19. > :15:23.they go around that bend we will get a split on that first 1000. It has
:15:24. > :15:29.always promised a lot, the steeplechase, we nearly got a world
:15:30. > :15:33.record a year or so ago. It just missed it by 100th of a second. We
:15:34. > :15:45.always feel the talent is here with the leading time of eight minutes or
:15:46. > :15:51.83. -- 80183. It is a tall order, asking them to
:15:52. > :15:55.turn out the eight minute pace. Evan Jager come in second place, by
:15:56. > :16:00.the way, people talk about him having a shot at the US record here,
:16:01. > :16:08.which has is on record, eight minutes and six seconds from a few
:16:09. > :16:11.years ago. He ran close to that ten days ago, pretty tasty for a
:16:12. > :16:20.steeplechase. In second place in the red, Jager, he is full of confidence
:16:21. > :16:25.at the moment. Back to the pole vault, Konstantinos
:16:26. > :16:29.Filippidis. His first attempt at 5.60 for the
:16:30. > :16:35.Greek. A good competitor, though he is only
:16:36. > :16:38.cleared 5.62 this year, so he is nearing his limits so far this
:16:39. > :16:44.season. That was smooth from the 27-year-old.
:16:45. > :17:03.The next height will be at 5.70. He starts a fresh, so to speak,
:17:04. > :17:09.after that first-time clearance, he will put those failures behind them.
:17:10. > :17:15.There is a familiar figure, Renaud Lavillenie, world record holder.
:17:16. > :17:19.6.16, he runs over it. That is his opening height, no trouble at all
:17:20. > :17:26.for the 27-year-old Frenchman. He is a great world record-holder now, but
:17:27. > :17:30.there is -- there is no such thing from high jump perspective of indoor
:17:31. > :17:35.and outdoor world records. He is undisputed world number one at the
:17:36. > :17:40.moment and he has won the last two competitions here over the
:17:41. > :17:48.pole-vault. The first kilometre was fast, 2.38 .88 which is inside the
:17:49. > :17:55.pace if they can maintain this. The pace is very strong indeed, just
:17:56. > :17:59.what was asked for and Jager has gone with the pacemaker, Birech has
:18:00. > :18:05.latched onto him. Koech is behind him, then Kipruto,
:18:06. > :18:13.Olympic champion from 2008. 8.04 this season, and Jager looks full of
:18:14. > :18:15.confidence. This is fascinating, we can see Evan Jager really going for
:18:16. > :18:21.it here. He has a really good set of cards up
:18:22. > :18:26.his sleeve. 13.02 he ran for 5000 in Brussels at
:18:27. > :18:32.the end of last summer. 3.53, he is not hanging around on the flat for
:18:33. > :18:35.one mile, and he is a former 1500m runner who took to the steeplechase
:18:36. > :18:39.when he could not make it a mile. He has a lovely, lazy stride, Evan
:18:40. > :18:43.Jager. The steeplechase when he could not make it a mile. He has a
:18:44. > :18:52.lovely, lazy stride, Evan Jager. He and certainly break his US record.
:18:53. > :18:57.-- he could certainly. Birech has recognised the pace,
:18:58. > :18:59.because he is happy to sit there behind Jager, and Jager has the job
:19:00. > :19:12.now of leading the race. This is a very, very spread out
:19:13. > :19:16.race, and I'm not surprised, Jager is really taking them on.
:19:17. > :19:24.We're watching the clock to see how quick it is, but that first 2.38 was
:19:25. > :19:27.very promising indeed. Jager is taking them on. His fifth
:19:28. > :19:32.steeplechase he broke the North American record, 8.06.81.
:19:33. > :19:37.This is territory he has never been in.
:19:38. > :19:42.Darya Klishina in the long jump now. One of the pin-up girls of the
:19:43. > :19:46.sport, her opening effort. Goodspeed, just cuts astride a
:19:47. > :19:54.little bit on that opening effort. -- good speed.
:19:55. > :20:00.Darya Klishina, and her coach has now based herself in Florida, bought
:20:01. > :20:03.herself an apartment close to the training centre. Former world junior
:20:04. > :20:12.champion. That is solid enough. Chris Huhne --
:20:13. > :20:19.from Daria covers -- 6.62 from Daria Cucina.
:20:20. > :20:30.-- Darya Klishina. Jager has to settle for second place
:20:31. > :20:35.at the moment. In third place is Hilary Kipsang
:20:36. > :20:39.Yego, then behind him is Koech, then Kipruto.
:20:40. > :20:47.They are about 100m or so behind, and Jager and played all the --
:20:48. > :20:53.Birech have not given up. This is good to be very quick indeed.
:20:54. > :21:01.Jager looking strong in second place. The gap has stayed around ten
:21:02. > :21:08.metres. Birech Lukasz Kubot in Rome, full of running and he is doing well
:21:09. > :21:22.tonight. Evan Jager is looking not really strong. -- Birech looked
:21:23. > :21:26.supreme in Rome. Birech is well into the final 1000
:21:27. > :21:34.and looks very strong. The bill will go and that will encourage everyone.
:21:35. > :21:43.Hilary Kipsang Yego insert place behind Jager, then some way down is
:21:44. > :21:48.running talent -- Bremen pallette -- Brahim Taleb.
:21:49. > :21:54.There is no gap come it is marginal, around another five or six
:21:55. > :21:58.metres, but Birech, he promised in Rome and delivered that, he has
:21:59. > :22:05.promised there, he got a fast-paced pacemaking earlier on, Haron
:22:06. > :22:14.Lagat's pacemaking was superb. And Jager... A little starter.
:22:15. > :22:21.What has he got down the street? 7.43.44 on the clock.
:22:22. > :22:26.They have slowed down a little bit in the final third of the race, but
:22:27. > :22:30.it will be very close to eight minutes for Birech, just outside by
:22:31. > :22:39.the look of it, but it warmly will be just outside eight minutes.
:22:40. > :22:42.8.02.38. And Jager, 8.06. That is a very good run by the American,
:22:43. > :22:47.roughly the same as its personal best, but my goodness me this is the
:22:48. > :22:52.stage on which to perform. I tell you what, Evan Jager I think
:22:53. > :23:03.has just missed his US record, 8.06.974 Evan Jager. He is around
:23:04. > :23:07.two tenths of a second out side it. Birech blew him away mid-race, it
:23:08. > :23:13.would have been good for someone to chase for Jager.
:23:14. > :23:24.It may have stretched a little too long, the gap, between them.
:23:25. > :23:28.Birech control that, didn't he? He let Jager lead then ran that last
:23:29. > :23:31.part. He did not have anyone to really fight with on that final part
:23:32. > :23:42.of the race, but it is a great time of eight minutes two seconds .3 is
:23:43. > :23:47.-- 8.02.37. Birech looking supreme. Evan Jager,
:23:48. > :23:50.film star looks and it is great to see the header mini of the Kenyans
:23:51. > :23:57.taken apart there. That is a brand-new ten in -- great
:23:58. > :24:00.to see the hegemony of the Kenyans taken apart.
:24:01. > :24:03.That is a brand-new Kenyan competing.
:24:04. > :24:10.Evan Jager, fantastic performance, just two tenths of his US record.
:24:11. > :24:15.Great performance, good to see. Just before we came on air it was
:24:16. > :24:19.the men's 400m hurdles. Great anticipation for that because Ashton
:24:20. > :24:23.Eaton, the world record-holder in the decathlon, was going for this.
:24:24. > :24:26.Also, Rhys Williams from Great Britain was due to be on this.
:24:27. > :24:32.Unfortunately he was disqualified for a false start. This is what
:24:33. > :24:37.happened when they got away for real.
:24:38. > :24:43.No problem with the start this time, and Ashton Eaton has gone on
:24:44. > :24:48.very quickly indeed. He is right up on Van Zyl, who is a sub 48 man at
:24:49. > :24:52.his best. It is a very hard run the first 200m by Ashton Eaton.
:24:53. > :24:57.Johnny Dutch is going well in the outside, chasing Magi of Estonia.
:24:58. > :25:01.Schirrmeister is going well with a lot to do. Van Zyl has been run
:25:02. > :25:06.right down at the moment. Ashton Eaton is powering round to 300m.
:25:07. > :25:12.What an athlete, he is leading at the moment, Johnny Dutch coming into
:25:13. > :25:15.second place, then you have Van Zyl. Into the home straight. Ashton
:25:16. > :25:21.Eaton, and Johnny Dutch, these two, I said don't discount Johnny Dutch
:25:22. > :25:27.committee has the experience, but Eaton was coming through and wins it
:25:28. > :25:39.easily. Johnny Dutch in second place, Van Zyl comes through, 49.16.
:25:40. > :25:42.Now time to the 400m hurdler 's. You have won your Diamond League
:25:43. > :25:50.meeting, I was that? I am pleased, it was a good race.
:25:51. > :25:55.The timing was not stupendous but it was consistent for me come in the
:25:56. > :26:01.low 49s, that just means I have to import 48, and the crowd was great.
:26:02. > :26:03.How serious are you about it? There are no championships this year, I do
:26:04. > :26:08.away from the decathlon at the moment completely?
:26:09. > :26:13.Anything I do I take very seriously. It is serious in the sense that
:26:14. > :26:17.every time I race I tried to include myself and win. It is not serious in
:26:18. > :26:20.that I do not see myself doing a Championship.
:26:21. > :26:24.In terms of the rest of the season, do you have a time in your head? I
:26:25. > :26:28.know you are very competitive. I am competitive. I fill sorry for
:26:29. > :26:33.them, tough race. I do not like to set goals.
:26:34. > :26:37.If I try to beat people, the times will come. It would be nice to do
:26:38. > :26:41.48, absolutely. I will see if it happens or not. We have been in awe
:26:42. > :26:46.of what you have achieved. Thank you for talking to us. Thank
:26:47. > :26:49.you, guys, appreciate it. Ashton Eaton, it is all right to set
:26:50. > :26:53.goals. Colin, we were chatting earlier in
:26:54. > :26:58.the hotel and you think, talking about another multi-event, Jessica
:26:59. > :27:02.Ennis-Hill, who is obviously expecting around the time of the
:27:03. > :27:08.Commonwealth Games, may this we away for her, the 400m hurdles?
:27:09. > :27:12.I think she would be majestic as this. She is a British record holder
:27:13. > :27:18.already at the 100m hurdles. She has great speed and endurance, she goes
:27:19. > :27:22.under 23 seconds already in the 200m, and at the end of a gruelling
:27:23. > :27:26.pentathlon she still manages a great 800m. The 400m hurdles is that
:27:27. > :27:30.perfect, the nation of all of those things that are needed, strength,
:27:31. > :27:34.endurance, speed, technical ability. And with Katarina Johnson-Thompson
:27:35. > :27:37.going so well with a point score that would have won Moscow last
:27:38. > :27:42.year, maybe the appeal would be to go for something different.
:27:43. > :27:46.Sometimes athletes need new challenges. She will just have come
:27:47. > :27:49.back from childbirth. Jessica, I am pushing you to watch the 400m
:27:50. > :27:55.hurdles. Next up is the women's 800m, which
:27:56. > :27:59.features Jess Judd. She was one of the average for us last year. She
:28:00. > :28:05.won Diamond League meeting in Birmingham. Her form trailed off
:28:06. > :28:08.towards the end of the year, but still broad smiles to everyone.
:28:09. > :28:17.A lovely athlete, she really bounced on the scene with energy and
:28:18. > :28:23.enthusiasm. I am not sure she has actually running such a big area
:28:24. > :28:26.stadium, and quality field, also. We have three former world
:28:27. > :28:30.champions. Caster Semenya, not in the greatest
:28:31. > :28:36.format of the moment. She is struggling at 2.05. To see
:28:37. > :28:39.your competing something else. There is lots of talent in this field and
:28:40. > :28:44.it makes it competitive. That is what Jess Judd may need.
:28:45. > :28:46.Well, Jess Judd, we will talk to her about that when she comes off the
:28:47. > :28:50.track. Paula Radcliffe was a great support
:28:51. > :28:57.and help to her during the time when she fractured one of her bones.
:28:58. > :29:10.Back in the deep end here. Back to the commentary team. Angelika
:29:11. > :29:20.Cichocka of Poland, a silver medallist in the world indoors in
:29:21. > :29:27.March. She shares lane 6 with Ajee Wilson, reigning junior champion.
:29:28. > :29:46.Eunice Sum in wonderful form. Had big wins in Doha and Rome. Selma
:29:47. > :29:53.Kajan in lane 8 with Janeth Jepkosgei. Jepkosgei won here in
:29:54. > :30:03.2006. She isn't in that form at the moment. The women's 800.
:30:04. > :30:09.I don't think I've ever seen quite so many lanes being shared in an 800
:30:10. > :30:15.metres. It looks more like a 100. The lumbering figure of Caster
:30:16. > :30:25.Semenya in purple has gone off quickly. Can she hold it together?
:30:26. > :30:29.She finished in 10th in Rome. Pacemaker Selma Kajan of Australia.
:30:30. > :30:33.She needs a healthy pace to stretch this field out. It is dangerously
:30:34. > :30:38.big considering the speed they are moving at. Jessica Judd running a
:30:39. > :30:45.very cautious race. She's third from the back in the long white socks to
:30:46. > :30:54.the right of picture. The field still all there. They need 56 or 57
:30:55. > :31:04.with the rest of the field tucked in. Jepkosgei is in third. 57. 45 is
:31:05. > :31:10.just about spot on. Maybe a little on the slow side considering the
:31:11. > :31:15.size of the pack. Sum is in second pace, then Jepkosgei. Wilson in
:31:16. > :31:23.fourth place. Jessica Judd in 8th at the moment for Great Britain. Easing
:31:24. > :31:31.past the little figure of Brenda Martinez. Sum, who dominated in Rome
:31:32. > :31:37.and looked so impressive in recent ways, Judd has run a sensible,
:31:38. > :31:44.cautious race as the young Briton. She won the diamond in Birmingham
:31:45. > :31:51.last year. Wilson into third place, but Sum striding away in front. Here
:31:52. > :31:58.comes Wilson, a good run from her. Jepkosgei struggling in fourth.
:31:59. > :32:06.Coming through Cichocka. Wilson hanging on to second place, Jessica
:32:07. > :32:13.Judd in third. There is a strong wind down the home strait. It is
:32:14. > :32:20.gusting here in the Arena. Sometimes it can swirl and be in the faces of
:32:21. > :32:27.the athletes. Eunice Sum underlining her dominance. She went out in front
:32:28. > :32:33.behind the pacemakers. She got out of trouble early, staid up in front.
:32:34. > :32:38.-- staid up in front. -- stayed up in front. Wilson did a very good
:32:39. > :32:44.job, but so did Jessica Judd. I've watched her as a youngster for many
:32:45. > :32:52.years and now in the senior ranks on the tracks she's beginning to show
:32:53. > :32:56.great form. A best of sub-2. On this form chasing this sort of athletes
:32:57. > :33:00.she's going to do that again and even better. We could well be
:33:01. > :33:03.looking at the next Commonwealth champion there in the figure of
:33:04. > :33:10.Eunice Sum. She is already world champion. Went out in the elite of
:33:11. > :33:16.the Olympics in 2012, which is a -- but she's a very different athlete
:33:17. > :33:25.now. Ivana Spanovic in the women's long jump. The second round. No jump
:33:26. > :33:30.in the first round. A hang technique and that looks good. It could be
:33:31. > :33:36.challenging the lead position. Gets the white flag.
:33:37. > :33:47.Safe. Gets a very good leg shoot at the end. A very basic technique.
:33:48. > :33:54.Just a bit of a fall back but not too much.
:33:55. > :34:05.What's she done and where is she? 6. 67. Second place. One very happy
:34:06. > :34:10.Jessica Judd is here. A massive smile. Did you wake up this morning
:34:11. > :34:18.think you felt that good you could run that quickly? No, my parents
:34:19. > :34:22.will be getting texts from me. I wanted to get the standard. My
:34:23. > :34:26.season didn't start well. I fractured my back in the winter. I
:34:27. > :34:33.can't believe it! You've missed three months of running during the
:34:34. > :34:40.winter? Yes. It's been a stressful time, but Rob has utter faith in me.
:34:41. > :34:48.My granddad watching at home. Everyone had faith in me. I've been
:34:49. > :34:53.telling everyone I can go under two and annoying everyone, and now I've
:34:54. > :35:00.done it. I was worried for you halfway. What were you thinking? I
:35:01. > :35:06.was worried too! I thought I've learnt from my sister to keep the
:35:07. > :35:11.elbows out. You were boxed in at the back. You pushed your way through.
:35:12. > :35:16.You are still a teenager with tremendous maturity. It was one of
:35:17. > :35:22.the biggest fields we've seen. The biggest field and the most talented
:35:23. > :35:26.run I've run against, but I knew I had to up my game. All the British
:35:27. > :35:32.ladies have run so well. I wanted to be with them. Hopefully I can get
:35:33. > :35:38.back into training. And the next target is the trials? I was injured
:35:39. > :35:45.for it last year. Now it is probably the reverse, so at least I can try
:35:46. > :35:53.to progress. We are going to show a results graphic. 1. 59. 77 your
:35:54. > :35:58.personal best. When you look back to the dark times that you had over the
:35:59. > :36:04.course of the winter, it is amazing how it's turned around. I would like
:36:05. > :36:10.to thank everyone, especially in Park City, who head me get through.
:36:11. > :36:15.Thank you to everyone. It's been brilliant. I'm really happy to be
:36:16. > :36:21.back. And Paula Radcliffe was a great help and support to you Yes,
:36:22. > :36:24.she's my role model, so to have help from someone like that is brilliant.
:36:25. > :36:28.I wouldn't be here without them. Jess, you're a star. You were
:36:29. > :36:31.fantastic last year and I have a feeling you might be better this
:36:32. > :36:39.year. I hope soft. Thank you very much. It takes you back doesn't it
:36:40. > :36:44.getting PBs and the joy of going out and running or jumping. It was
:36:45. > :36:48.interesting. We got the result before Jessica did. We were waiting
:36:49. > :36:52.to explain to her. As soon as she realised what we said, she jumped up
:36:53. > :36:58.and down. It was brilliant to see. This is a great start for her. She
:36:59. > :37:03.gained a lot of experience in a busy field taking on great athletes.
:37:04. > :37:08.Massive ticks all the way. She talked about getting back into
:37:09. > :37:15.training. Having missed a lot through injury, not to run out of
:37:16. > :37:19.steam by running too much too soon? She has maturity, which will see her
:37:20. > :37:25.through if you think about it. She has a lot of good people around her.
:37:26. > :37:30.That will fill her with confidence. Last year was a learning curve.
:37:31. > :37:34.Let's keep our fingers crossed for the Commonwealth Games and for her
:37:35. > :37:39.the trials. Whatever happens for the rest of the night, it's been
:37:40. > :37:59.fantastic. Next up is the women's 400 metres. No Christine Ohurugu.
:38:00. > :38:05.I'm slightly disappointed but this is a good competitive field. When we
:38:06. > :38:07.are talking about track and field athletes it is about the head to
:38:08. > :39:15.head. Back to the come at a timers. Pretty good by Natasha Hastings.
:39:16. > :39:22.Montsho beginning to eat up the ground. Making ground on
:39:23. > :39:37.Williams-Mills now. On the outside Hall going pretty well. As they come
:39:38. > :39:48.through to 300 metres, in lane 4 is Montsho. Williams Mills coming BAE
:39:49. > :39:56.now and Hastings is coming through. Williams Mills winning this one.
:39:57. > :40:05.Once again the Jamaican shows real form. She won in Shanghai. Ran a 49.
:40:06. > :40:15.8 split in the relaze competition recently. It was a pretty hard
:40:16. > :40:27.battle wasn't it? It was, but that is a perfect three for her. Look at
:40:28. > :40:31.her pumping the arms. There is a worry about Montsho's form. She went
:40:32. > :40:38.off very aggressively and paid the price down the home strait.
:40:39. > :40:42.Williams-Mills at the age of 32, like a fine wine she's getting
:40:43. > :40:57.better and better. Just outside 50 seconds there, but it will come.
:40:58. > :41:02.Colin, worrying form for Montsho. You do worry how much of an impact
:41:03. > :41:06.that loss to Christine that will be. She had that world title in the bag
:41:07. > :41:14.it seemed, but didn't run through the line. It's been tough for her.
:41:15. > :41:21.It is tough. For any athlete when you were expecting to deliver and it
:41:22. > :41:25.is snatched from you, you can imagine how frustrating it can. But
:41:26. > :41:30.she's a class act. She knows what it can take to get to this level. You
:41:31. > :41:37.can understand she will be a little disappointed. But that run by
:41:38. > :41:42.Novlene was pretty strong. She's lost many world titles in that same
:41:43. > :41:48.situation, where she had it snatched at the last second. We heard the
:41:49. > :41:56.conditions are blustery. That was worth sub-50? I think so. That I
:41:57. > :42:01.think was a run that was there or thereabouts, so it is on its way.
:42:02. > :42:12.Lots of action in the field, but let's catch up with the women's long
:42:13. > :42:18.jump. That is the lead. You can see the
:42:19. > :42:23.graphic line over the pit. It has got to be seven metres. Hits the
:42:24. > :42:28.board spot on. That's as perfect as it gets. Lovely hang, good leg
:42:29. > :42:36.shoot. Follows through. Doesn't sit back on it that. Surely is close on
:42:37. > :42:46.seven metres. The lead by a good margin. World long jump champion in
:42:47. > :42:56.2005 remember. A re-emergence here. Got a world best... Oh, 7. 02 and
:42:57. > :43:02.that's a new world best. She's US just bettered her -- she's just
:43:03. > :43:09.bettered her previous result. She takes the lead.
:43:10. > :43:16.Renaud Lavillenie, a first attempt at 5. 70 metres.
:43:17. > :43:25.He is sun inhibited, does what he has to do. So uncomplicated
:43:26. > :43:33.mind-wise. Oh yes, I think he is pleased with that. He's quick. He's
:43:34. > :43:39.athletic. The plant was superb. He injects real force into that pole,
:43:40. > :43:40.which kindly gives it back to him. He clears that comfortably.
:43:41. > :43:57.Absolutely superb. with Asha Philip and Jodie Williams.
:43:58. > :44:04.We had a stunning performance in the men's 100m. The time got us all by
:44:05. > :44:07.surprise. It was a strong performance because
:44:08. > :44:14.it was a competitive race, a race where you finish runner-up to
:44:15. > :44:17.someone like Richard Thompson from Trinidad and Tobago. We have seen
:44:18. > :44:23.him go under 9.9 deal. We know that time is legit. That is always the
:44:24. > :44:28.first thing people ask. -- we have seen him go under 9.90. It was a
:44:29. > :44:33.class performance. He finished with a massive personal
:44:34. > :44:35.best and to this day he says he is still surprised to get round that
:44:36. > :44:40.quickly. We saw him in Manchester and there
:44:41. > :44:44.was not really an inkling that he had 9.96 in the tank, was there?
:44:45. > :44:51.Or, sometimes these things just happen. You have worked hard in the
:44:52. > :44:53.winter and things just click. That day he was competitive, the
:44:54. > :44:57.conditions were good. There were lots of great
:44:58. > :45:00.performances that weekend, so you have to think the conditions were
:45:01. > :45:04.pretty smart. It will put a good smile on his face and as I am
:45:05. > :45:09.concerned it really sets up our sports scene very well indeed.
:45:10. > :45:14.We will talk about that later on, Richard Kilty is also going later
:45:15. > :45:18.on. Now the women's 100m and two
:45:19. > :45:22.athletes who have been brilliant, Jodie Williams and Ashley Phillips,
:45:23. > :45:29.who are now looking to make it in the senior ranks. -- Asha Philip.
:45:30. > :45:34.We have seen already Asha Philip indoors showing she is at confident
:45:35. > :45:38.sprinter. Both of these athletes, as you say, where great juniors, and
:45:39. > :45:44.had their problems, as well. They had injuries, bad form, but it is
:45:45. > :45:49.their time to turn. They have that ability to turn. Asha Philip I saw
:45:50. > :45:53.earlier and she was really confident with a big smile, so I am hoping,
:45:54. > :45:57.really, that with these conditions she can deliver something special.
:45:58. > :46:01.They have both struggled with injury and when you are young you have such
:46:02. > :46:04.great hope and expectation, your career is in front of you, and it
:46:05. > :46:07.can be difficult to deal with, perhaps you do not have the maturity
:46:08. > :46:12.it takes to nurse yourself through as we have seen Jess Judd do.
:46:13. > :46:16.Not just that, it is having the right kind of people around who will
:46:17. > :46:19.help you through those dark moments because every single day is hell,
:46:20. > :46:26.living hell when you have a passion and desire to do something to the
:46:27. > :46:30.best of your ability. Jodie Williams, she has struggled
:46:31. > :46:34.with form, she has changed coaches and that kind of transition when you
:46:35. > :46:37.are young is difficult to happen -- to handle.
:46:38. > :46:41.Now it is important to shake it all out, put it behind you and train on
:46:42. > :46:45.what you love. When you have been this kind of
:46:46. > :46:51.child prodigy almost, people expect you to make that smooth transition,
:46:52. > :46:54.it is almost as if you need a couple of tough years to shake it off and
:46:55. > :46:58.start again. And that can build a whole career
:46:59. > :47:01.because now you start to believe in yourself.
:47:02. > :47:05.When you look back you think of all of the things you have gone through
:47:06. > :47:11.and managed to come back. It will put both athletes in good stead for
:47:12. > :47:18.the future. Now the women's 100m, no real dominant athletes like great
:47:19. > :47:20.opportunity. -- no dominant athletes, saw a great
:47:21. > :47:27.opportunity. Jodie Williams, former junior
:47:28. > :47:38.champion at 100m. 11 point 20 this season. Ezinne Okparaebo of Norway,
:47:39. > :47:46.record-holder at all sprint distances, very much a European
:47:47. > :48:00.affair, this. Then, for Jamaica, Alim Bailey,. She
:48:01. > :48:06.has 1116 this season. All very close. Asha Philip for Great
:48:07. > :48:17.Britain, fourth in the World Indoor Championships. Very competitive
:48:18. > :48:19.fare. She starts well. Cechova of Czechoslovakia, her personal best is
:48:20. > :48:31.11.19. Lee, Soumare, Lawson, Williams,
:48:32. > :48:34.Okparaebo, Bailey, Philip and Cechova.
:48:35. > :49:00.The women's 100m. I think that is lame three, that
:49:01. > :49:07.looked like Lakeisha Lawson to me. -- lane three. Was it Okparaebo?
:49:08. > :49:10.I saw a flinch from lane three, Lakeisha Lawson, unless someone else
:49:11. > :49:13.beat her to that. I think there is going to be a casualty here, Tim.
:49:14. > :49:20.I thought it was to the left. Let's look again, watch Okparaebo in the
:49:21. > :49:26.pink. The first which was from Jodie
:49:27. > :49:30.Williams, actually. -- the first twitch. We have already had a Rhys
:49:31. > :49:38.Williams disqualified. There were several problems there on
:49:39. > :49:41.the start. Let's hope that it is a green card. It looked as though
:49:42. > :49:46.there were a lot of people moving early. Okparaebo of Norway, I wonder
:49:47. > :49:54.whether it is her. She seemed to be worried a little bit.
:49:55. > :50:02.Now then, the officials making sure they have got it right on the
:50:03. > :50:10.electronic start. Here comes our card, what is it? Who is it? It is a
:50:11. > :50:14.yellow. It is like a get out of jail card!
:50:15. > :50:30.Right, let's breathe again! Lee, Soumare, Lawson, Williams,
:50:31. > :50:38.Okparaebo, Bailey, Philip and Cechova. The women's 100m.
:50:39. > :50:43.This is very nervous moments for these women. No one outstanding as a
:50:44. > :51:05.favourite in this race, let's be honest.
:51:06. > :51:13.I weigh this time, and certainly Okparaebo got well. Soumare was
:51:14. > :51:19.going strongly, very very strongly from the second lane. Soumare under
:51:20. > :51:27.Lawson, and are right on the inside, you know Lee. 11.18 the
:51:28. > :51:31.time. -- Muna Lee. Myriam Soumare has a best of 11.33
:51:32. > :51:37.this season. She looked very strong. She hit the front very
:51:38. > :51:42.early, 11.18 her time, and that is a season 's best.
:51:43. > :51:46.Just looking at Jodie Williams. Just losing a little bit of ground to
:51:47. > :51:52.Okparaebo on the near side, losing a lot of ground now.
:51:53. > :51:57.The top three lanes, as I said... They got out of the blocks very
:51:58. > :52:02.well. Jodie Williams was upright very quickly, did not get a
:52:03. > :52:06.brilliant start in lane before, but no doubting Soumare's dominance
:52:07. > :52:10.there, a comfortable win. Not the tidiest of sprinters, certainly in
:52:11. > :52:16.the latter stages it was becoming ragged, but Lakeisha Lawson to her
:52:17. > :52:22.late and I think Lee taking third place to her left. 11.18, up to
:52:23. > :52:28.11.24. That is clear daylight, in effect,
:52:29. > :52:33.in sprinting camps. That was a good run.
:52:34. > :52:40.Pretty even, then all of a sudden from lane two, Myriam Soumare
:52:41. > :52:45.started to move away. She made no mistake here at all.
:52:46. > :52:57.There is the result of that 100m, Soumare, 11.18, season 's best.
:52:58. > :53:06.11.414 Asha Philip, she is alongside me. Not that I you were looking for,
:53:07. > :53:08.tell us how that race was. It was a bit awkward.
:53:09. > :53:13.I got out of the start, the middle part was rusty.
:53:14. > :53:18.My coaching did not work out today, but the ending was strong which I
:53:19. > :53:22.have been working hard on. At least I can get to 100 and feel OK about
:53:23. > :53:25.it, it is just putting the whole race together.
:53:26. > :53:29.You see getting to 100, you were very strong at the end. What went
:53:30. > :53:33.wrong with the transition phase out of the start into the middle phase?
:53:34. > :53:36.I think I was thinking too much rather than running on my own race.
:53:37. > :53:39.I was contributing on other athletes, which is the wrong thing
:53:40. > :53:44.to do. At least I held it together to the end. Hopefully next time, I
:53:45. > :53:47.have not had that many races and I have not had violence, so I am sure
:53:48. > :53:53.by the second round I will be even better. You know, 11.41, I am not
:53:54. > :53:56.happy with the time, but it will come and I know it will. I think it
:53:57. > :54:01.will, good luck for the rest of the season, Asha Philip.
:54:02. > :55:08.It promises to be a great summer of sport in track and field.
:55:09. > :55:12.Yes, European Championships, Commonwealth Games, Diamond League
:55:13. > :55:15.already happening on the BBC committee should be a great watch,
:55:16. > :55:20.and the weekend after next we will be live in Germany for the European
:55:21. > :55:24.Championships, competing 14 points against the rest of Europe. In case
:55:25. > :55:29.you have been on the planet Mars or you have not been reading the papers
:55:30. > :55:35.or watching television, the World Cup - football - starts tomorrow.
:55:36. > :55:37.BBC1 at 10:35pm tomorrow night, Gary Lineker and the team in Rio with
:55:38. > :55:41.preview. Colin, who is your money on?
:55:42. > :55:48.Brazil. I am going to go Argentina.
:55:49. > :55:53.They got Player of the Year, what are you talking about?
:55:54. > :55:59.Big news at the moment circulating by the Telegraph, Mo Farah is going
:56:00. > :56:01.to run the 5000m and 10,000m in the Commonwealth Games.
:56:02. > :56:10.It is an interesting challenge for Mo Farah. They are to direct
:56:11. > :56:17.finals, so it will be much easier. It is nice to see him there. We were
:56:18. > :56:22.discussing earlier that he has done the -- European Championships and
:56:23. > :56:25.double World Championships, but he has not doubled the Commonwealth
:56:26. > :56:28.Games. It is fitting for him to do this, but it will be tough. There
:56:29. > :56:32.are a couple of competitors who are looking for Mo.
:56:33. > :56:43.They certainly are, the men's 1000m is up next, one of them really
:56:44. > :56:48.looking out for Mo will be Ndiku of Kenya, and he himself will be
:56:49. > :56:50.looking out for Galen Rupp. He is in great form. Let's see how
:56:51. > :57:06.this one pans out. They start in the two to lawns and
:57:07. > :57:10.will break as they come into the home straight.
:57:11. > :57:24.-- the two actual ons. There are two pacemakers, and we expect them to
:57:25. > :57:30.only run for three or four laps,. The second pacemaker will hope to
:57:31. > :57:39.take them to 3000. 62 seconds per lap. That works around 4.08 per
:57:40. > :57:44.mile, and that is for three miles. Soi has just moved up and he waved
:57:45. > :57:48.Rupp through, saying unit have to chase because the pacemakers have
:57:49. > :57:52.two other glance round, they are no use to anyone 20 metres in front.
:57:53. > :57:59.They are really not helping the vast majority of the field at the moment.
:58:00. > :58:02.Rupp is back in third place behind the two pacemakers. That is the
:58:03. > :58:06.reason the pack is some way down, with Galen Rupp now isolated in
:58:07. > :58:13.fourth place. He has surged down the back straight. He is trying to close
:58:14. > :58:17.up on the pacemakers but they went through much too quickly. That was
:58:18. > :58:21.59, 60 seconds. We have seen that happen on several
:58:22. > :58:26.races and it is a bit worrying when you wonder who asked for the pace.
:58:27. > :58:30.Certainly, you have some experience in there, but Rupp is making no
:58:31. > :58:54.mistakes whatsoever, is he? Julius Yego, first round of the
:58:55. > :58:58.javelin for him, of Kenya. Fourth in the World Championships in Moscow
:58:59. > :59:04.last year. Very strong.
:59:05. > :59:15.That is just over the 80. The wind is not helping terribly, they need
:59:16. > :59:17.just a slight wind over their throwing shoulder to execute a
:59:18. > :59:32.really good throw with these modern designed javelins. Julius Yego,
:59:33. > :59:42.80.83 he leads at the moment. Shara Proctor, this is her fourth round
:59:43. > :59:48.jump. 6. 49 her best so far. That certainly looked better. A good
:59:49. > :59:54.approach. Hit the board quite well. Hit the board very well indeed.
:59:55. > :59:58.White flag confirms that's a good hit on the board. Nice little hang.
:59:59. > :00:13.Long position in the middle of that jump. Good control. What's she got?
:00:14. > :00:23.Still waiting. 6. 78. A season's best. Second place. That's better.
:00:24. > :00:33.Vitezslav Vesely in the javelin is the reigning world and European
:00:34. > :00:50.champion. He's won the last two seasons, in 2012 and #13rks. He's --
:00:51. > :01:04.in 2012 and 2013. That I think is good enough to take the lead. 83 or
:01:05. > :01:12.thereabouts for Vesely. He threw that distance in London qualifying,
:01:13. > :01:24.but only 373. 34 in the final. 383. 17 takes him into the lead. -- 83.
:01:25. > :01:30.17 takes him into the lead. The two pacemakers are still isolated. They
:01:31. > :01:33.need to drop back and make contact with the pack and drag them up into
:01:34. > :01:56.a decent tempo. Rupp leads the pack between the game
:01:57. > :02:03.makers. Alamirew and Koech and Lopez Lomong and Gebremeskel is there as
:02:04. > :02:10.well. So is Ndiku, the tall figure in 10th place. I won't tell you he
:02:11. > :02:21.is wearing a yellow vest, as that doesn't help any of us. They are
:02:22. > :02:27.coming towards 2,000 metres. That's pedestrian for men of this calibre.
:02:28. > :02:39.At this rate they will struggle to break 13 minutes.
:02:40. > :02:50.Rupp is in second and Alamirew is third. Then Koech, Lomong, Ndiku.
:02:51. > :02:57.The tall figure Ndiku looking up at the big screen to see what's going
:02:58. > :03:07.on. 64. 49, that's a 65 second lap. It is a great shape. They were not
:03:08. > :03:14.doing anything like what was planned. That happens so often these
:03:15. > :03:20.days where we are told about a pace that's requested and it doesn't
:03:21. > :03:27.happen. Yes, and this race will be a negative split in terms of what
:03:28. > :03:32.happens in the second part, because Rupp will want to show real form
:03:33. > :03:37.here but he's been let down by the pace overall of this race.
:03:38. > :03:42.Pacemakers haven't been that helpful thus far. Ndiku is always in the
:03:43. > :03:55.right place at the right time. He's got a terrific finish on him. He is
:03:56. > :04:00.in 17th place at the moment. That's a bit quicker on that lap. It has
:04:01. > :04:13.picked up, but that's the pacemaker I think.
:04:14. > :04:29.Maltre Mohr a third and final vault. If Maltre Mohr had to beat
:04:30. > :04:34.Lavillenie he would have had to have a greater hate. No, he's gone and
:04:35. > :04:46.Lavillenie has won yet another and stands alone with three vaults all
:04:47. > :04:57.clear. The javelin, Yego's second attempt. 80. 383 in the first round.
:04:58. > :05:04.-- 80. 83 in the first round. That looks a little better. He really is
:05:05. > :05:16.a hour house. There's no finesse about him. He really does give it a
:05:17. > :05:22.wallop, that 800 gram javelin. Whacks it hard. Second place at the
:05:23. > :05:33.moment. The wind is causing a problem, as it did in Eugene.
:05:34. > :05:38.They've gone through 3,000. They are 10-15 seconds outside what was asked
:05:39. > :05:43.for. Nobody prepared to commit themselves and push it along that
:05:44. > :05:47.pack or make contact with the pacemakers, which is a shame. So
:05:48. > :05:54.many of these men have broken 13 minutes. The aim for Galen Rupp this
:05:55. > :06:01.season is to win races with aggression, to be more determined to
:06:02. > :06:07.win. The times are secondary. In Eugene they had the bonus of a
:06:08. > :06:15.fabulous win and a quick time. Imane Merga has separated from the pack.
:06:16. > :06:25.Rop leading from Rupp. Then Alamirew. Koech in fourth.
:06:26. > :06:32.Pitkamaki, a second throw for him. He became a dad on Monday. Wife and
:06:33. > :06:37.baby are doing well. He's got a son. And that could be around 84 on that
:06:38. > :06:46.line. I think that could well be the lead. That looks a limb better for
:06:47. > :06:57.Pitkamaki. He's had his ups and downs in the last few seasons. The
:06:58. > :07:03.battles with Andreas Thorkildsen in 2008. He's lost a lot of sleep, he
:07:04. > :07:08.says. Being a dad's not easy. We know that don't we? Here they go
:07:09. > :07:16.with three laps to go. They've slowed on that one. Nobody is
:07:17. > :07:22.prepared to be the first to go. Rop is up against the likes of Ndiku,
:07:23. > :07:28.Gebremeskel and Alamirew. Gebremeskel won here in 2012, the
:07:29. > :07:45.last time 5,000 was held in this stadium. Ang ang, what's he --
:07:46. > :07:53.Kangogo, what's he doing there. They have just oh two laps to go. Galen
:07:54. > :08:00.Rupp paying close attention to the front end. It is Longosiwa from al,
:08:01. > :08:07.a then Rupp, then Kangogo, and then a gap to the others with this
:08:08. > :08:16.acceleration. Two laps to run. That lap was a 61. 04. No wonder gaps
:08:17. > :08:23.appeared. 60. 8 for the front end of that field. They head into the back
:08:24. > :08:31.straight. Longosiwa in the orange. Alamirew. Rupp, and this is a long,
:08:32. > :08:36.long drive for home. This is more like a 1,500 metre race. Longosiwa
:08:37. > :08:41.is determined to make them pay for their dallying around. He was second
:08:42. > :08:48.in Shanghai. Fourth in the World Championships last year. He's not to
:08:49. > :08:51.be messed with. Coached by a former world record holder in the
:08:52. > :08:57.steeplechase. Longosiwa, with Alamirew. Now Ndiku, the dangerman
:08:58. > :09:04.moving up, alongside Galen Rupp, who is going to be sweeperly tested. - -
:09:05. > :09:19.severely tested. They go through the bell. About 12. 06 at the bell. 58.
:09:20. > :09:25.8 that lap. They've run - is this where Rupp pays. Even Ndiku is left
:09:26. > :09:33.at the moment. Alamirew from Longosiwa. Ndiku, biding his time.
:09:34. > :09:39.He and Rupp closing up on the two in front of them. Alamirew looks to
:09:40. > :09:44.have slowed on purpose. A glance over his shoulder. Longosiwa looks
:09:45. > :09:50.spent. Ndiku rallies with 150 to run. Galen Rupp has got to dig deep.
:09:51. > :09:57.This is a man who had a wonderful win but he's been outsmarted this
:09:58. > :10:04.time. It is Alamirew who comes away to take the win here. He takes it.
:10:05. > :10:13.Ndiku second. Rupp for third place, Longosiwa in fourth and the rest are
:10:14. > :10:21.way back. That last three laps 55. 4 that final lap. Something like 2.
:10:22. > :10:32.54, but my timing is never that good. I'm sure the last mile about
:10:33. > :10:38.3. 58. The winning time 13. 01. 13.01.58, a world best this year. To
:10:39. > :10:44.some degree a business disappointing. -- a bit
:10:45. > :10:54.disappointing. When the field is so strong and the build-up so big be,
:10:55. > :10:59.you want the clock to look great. Rupp held on in the end and the race
:11:00. > :11:08.did speed up, as we thought it would. It is a shame it didn't go a
:11:09. > :11:19.bit quicker early on. One or two excited by the victory. The
:11:20. > :11:24.Ethiopians reigning investment let's talk about Galen Rupp. They are
:11:25. > :11:29.challenging this orthodoxy that's grown up over the last decade or so
:11:30. > :11:41.that you have to be African to be successful in the long distances.
:11:42. > :11:45.Yes, there is a huge belief in that. It is installed into many distance
:11:46. > :11:52.runners that if we work hard and play as a team, we too can run these
:11:53. > :11:56.phenomenal performances. That's why Mo took himself over to the United
:11:57. > :12:01.States and settled in, knowing they this the right mind-set into
:12:02. > :12:05.delivering the good performances when it mattered. It is pretty good
:12:06. > :12:11.that we see the United States returning to good distance and
:12:12. > :12:16.mid-distance running. And possibly that barrier was psychological. It
:12:17. > :12:21.could be proved that way. But you still need the talent, and Galen
:12:22. > :12:30.Rupp has that. 5,000 metres one of the highlights this evening. This is
:12:31. > :12:34.what else you've missed. Teenageary Jessica Judd ran a PB in
:12:35. > :12:47.the 800 metres after a winter of injury. Eunice Sum was the win we
:12:48. > :12:53.are. Jessica Judd in third place. Tianna Bartoletta jumped a record.
:12:54. > :12:58.In the pole vault Renaud Lavillenie, the world record hold her, he is
:12:59. > :13:02.going to go even higher. . If he does, you will see it here on the
:13:03. > :13:06.BBC. Earlier we saw the men's triple the
:13:07. > :13:13.jump. Phillips Idowu didn't perform so well. First here's the 1, 2, 3 in
:13:14. > :13:20.that event. The men's triple jump, over nine men
:13:21. > :13:31.in the world have gone over 13 metres. In round two he went up to
:13:32. > :13:36.16 metres and that led to the fourth round. Three other efforts were over
:13:37. > :13:43.16 metres in a swirling wind, but nowhere near 17. Second place went
:13:44. > :13:48.to Christian Taylor. He's been together with 400 metres in recent
:13:49. > :13:53.weeks and almost gone under 45 seconds. That's probably cost him
:13:54. > :13:59.some form and distance. Here tonight 17. 15 was respectable enough in
:14:00. > :14:24.round five, backed up bay 17. 12 in the sixth and final round.
:14:25. > :14:28.behind Taylor, not exactly a consolation but unimpressive win by
:14:29. > :14:42.a sizeable margin. That raised a big cheer from the crowd.
:14:43. > :15:05.The final result, will clear and Christian Taylor over 17 metres. --
:15:06. > :15:09.Will Claye. From one Americans are to another, Galen Rupp. Conditions
:15:10. > :15:13.were not good tonight? Yes, the faster pace at the start of
:15:14. > :15:16.the race suited me better, but I have been saying all year that I
:15:17. > :15:21.really wanted to work on my tactics and this was a great place to
:15:22. > :15:25.practice that. I think I have made a lot of improvement since last year,
:15:26. > :15:28.finishing close to some of these guys and beating them at the end,
:15:29. > :15:32.but a little bit more work to do. Colin Jackson and I were talking
:15:33. > :15:39.about this orthodoxy that you have to be an African to win a five --
:15:40. > :15:42.5000m or 10,000m. You seem to be breaking that down. Yes, they are
:15:43. > :15:45.human too. Obviously they worked very hard and
:15:46. > :15:50.they are very talented and hard to beat, but I think that Americans are
:15:51. > :15:54.starting to realise just how hard you need to train to keep up with
:15:55. > :15:58.them. There are no short cuts in distance running, it takes a lot of
:15:59. > :16:03.miles, a lot of intensity, and I am just happy to be part of the group
:16:04. > :16:06.that is closing the gap. Also, we have heard that Mo Farah will double
:16:07. > :16:09.up at the Commonwealth Games. You may have the inside information
:16:10. > :16:12.on that, you don't have to comment on that, but if he does he has a
:16:13. > :16:16.tough thing on his hands with the Kenyans?
:16:17. > :16:22.Definitely, they are already in great shape. A lot of them have said
:16:23. > :16:26.that, but he has definitely come back well from the marathon. I have
:16:27. > :16:30.been surprised at how well he has bounced back, he is healthy, doing
:16:31. > :16:34.great and I will be looking forward to running with him at the
:16:35. > :16:37.Commonwealth. Galen Rupp, thank you for talking to us, good luck with
:16:38. > :16:42.the record. That go back to the pole vault. How
:16:43. > :16:47.high can the winner go? The third and final attempt at 5.834
:16:48. > :16:50.Renaud Lavillenie. He has won the event from
:16:51. > :17:07.Konstantinos Filippidis. 5.70. No, no, no. Well, not today. No six
:17:08. > :17:08.metres today. The record, incidentally, is six metres here,
:17:09. > :17:18.back in 1999. This man is clearly at the top of
:17:19. > :17:23.his game in every sense at the moment.
:17:24. > :17:28.He wins it, 5.8 three, three failures.
:17:29. > :17:33.No six metres for Renaud Lavillenie, but I am sure that will come, most
:17:34. > :17:35.likely in Zurich in the European Championships. You can see them on
:17:36. > :17:40.the BBC. Next up is the 110 metres hurdles,
:17:41. > :17:46.how fast did you run that here? I cannot remember, around 13.20, I
:17:47. > :17:51.think. The warm up was very difficult in
:17:52. > :17:55.those days, now it is difficult. I am loving that this race is
:17:56. > :18:01.competitive. You could not genuinely call this a race, and that makes it
:18:02. > :18:05.a mouthwatering prospect for me. Of course, Will Sharman from Great
:18:06. > :18:09.Britain is in the mix. He could, we have with a victory, he has already
:18:10. > :18:12.been to some of the world was Michael Best. -- he could come away
:18:13. > :18:20.with a victory. I am getting excited, I apologise. -- he has
:18:21. > :18:23.already beaten some of the world's best. This has not come alive in
:18:24. > :18:27.really quick times. It has not, but the races have been
:18:28. > :18:33.competitive. I like to see the Europeans in the
:18:34. > :18:36.mix and the lead belongs to a Frenchman who happens to be lining
:18:37. > :18:41.up today. You like him, you think this guy can go quit.
:18:42. > :18:43.Yes, Pascal Martinot-Lagarde is confident and believes in himself,
:18:44. > :18:48.there is talented. When you are in good shape and you
:18:49. > :18:51.are competent runner, he has a real opportunity of getting quicker and
:18:52. > :19:02.quicker and quicker. I think his first target now is looking at that
:19:03. > :19:05.French record, 12.97, that is fast. Jason Richardson that, former world
:19:06. > :19:08.champion. Good to see Will Sharman getting back to something like his
:19:09. > :19:12.best. When I was speaking to him earlier I
:19:13. > :19:16.said, even though he is frustrated he is not turning over those very
:19:17. > :19:22.quick times, the most important thing is the victories. Use beating
:19:23. > :19:29.people like Parchment on a regular basis. -- he is beating. Exactly
:19:30. > :19:34.what we like to see. I am scanning the field, looking at
:19:35. > :19:40.how everyone will do. Who will take this?
:19:41. > :19:44.Shubenkov, one of his big contenders in the European Championships. The
:19:45. > :19:46.defending European champion, bronze medal in 2010, there is competition,
:19:47. > :19:51.too. Sit and watch this with me.
:19:52. > :19:57.The men's 100m ice 110 metres hurdles. -- the men's 110 metres
:19:58. > :20:02.hurdles. This should be a very tough race
:20:03. > :20:11.indeed, and a close one, too. Court, Richard Summa -- Richardson,
:20:12. > :20:15.Vukicevic, Martinot-Lagarde, Parchment, Shubenkov, Riley,
:20:16. > :20:35.Sharman. The men's 110 metres hurdles.
:20:36. > :20:41.He has emerged this season, fast link speed, he came off the hurdles
:20:42. > :20:55.so well in Eugene. Well, the Frenchman got away well,
:20:56. > :21:00.Hansle Parchment going well, too, but Pascal Martinot-Lagarde is
:21:01. > :21:04.leading this by a big margin, 13.14. He takes it very comfortably. I did
:21:05. > :21:09.not think he would win it by that much. Absolutely superb, just one
:21:10. > :21:12.tenth of a second outside of the world lead, into a slight headwind
:21:13. > :21:18.of 0.6 metres per second. He emerged from the field, and we
:21:19. > :21:27.will take you through the line-up of the race again in a moment...
:21:28. > :21:32.Andrew Riley, the Jamaican... It has been rendered down, I was
:21:33. > :21:38.saying Andrew Riley got the second place and Shubenkov got third.
:21:39. > :21:41.They really attacked the first hurdle, look how quickly the
:21:42. > :21:44.Frenchman gets down to the deck. Richardson was going well at this
:21:45. > :21:50.stage and Shubenkov in the yellow top was going well as well.
:21:51. > :21:57.Parchment feeding a little bit in the final stages. -- fading.
:21:58. > :22:04.That was the striking feature on his win at Rome last we are -- last
:22:05. > :22:08.week. It is so quick, his legs regain contact with the ground and
:22:09. > :22:12.start driving towards the next barrier.
:22:13. > :22:19.That is a big margin, 13.12 with a 0.6 metres per second wind.
:22:20. > :22:24.This lad's record by the end of the season will of a special club.
:22:25. > :22:30.Will Sharman, 13.38, hopefully we will speak to him very shortly.
:22:31. > :22:37.But the Frenchman, Martinot-Lagarde, it looked a class apart.
:22:38. > :22:41.It looked very good indeed. I'm surprised he took such a huge
:22:42. > :22:46.margin. 13.12 is a world lead. On this track
:22:47. > :22:53.in Oslo, I am very surprised. I know now, he can be pretty confident he
:22:54. > :22:57.can go even quicker and get close to that 12.97 French record.
:22:58. > :23:00.He is still quite young for a high hurdler. When you keep that in mind,
:23:01. > :23:05.you can see he was getting close to the barriers and that means he has
:23:06. > :23:09.not quite mature committee cannot generate enough leg speed. That will
:23:10. > :23:14.come with maturity. If he keeps working hard and winning these
:23:15. > :23:17.races, you will get more confident. It is almost as if he looks as if he
:23:18. > :23:20.cannot sprint fully in between because he has such a range in
:23:21. > :23:24.stride. You used to run hard in between
:23:25. > :23:28.hurdles, just a little bit shorter, not that much, but a little bit, so
:23:29. > :23:33.what do you do to get quicker when you cannot really...
:23:34. > :23:35.There is Shubenkov, just giving a little bit of respect to the man
:23:36. > :23:42.here. No, he is very good, very strong. He
:23:43. > :23:44.will have to pick up his knees in between, that will make the
:23:45. > :23:48.difference in his performance, ultimately.
:23:49. > :23:51.We are talking about Martinot-Lagarde. That was a good
:23:52. > :23:56.run by him, perhaps we need to grab him later, too.
:23:57. > :23:59.It was tight after Pascal Martinot-Lagarde, because he was
:24:00. > :24:04.very strong from the blocks, took the lead and did not back up.
:24:05. > :24:07.Yes, the warm up from blocks was going really well. I thought, just
:24:08. > :24:11.leave it at one rap because it felt great.
:24:12. > :24:17.I did not want to go out there and be undercooked. Maybe I did too
:24:18. > :24:21.much. But it was going really well. I thought I finished strong and
:24:22. > :24:26.pushed away from the other guys around me, but I raced hard the
:24:27. > :24:31.other day and I can still feel that race in my lead lag. I have muscle
:24:32. > :24:38.soreness, for people that don't know. -- my lead leg. I know I can
:24:39. > :24:41.go quicker, I give my best shot on the day and they are the best guys
:24:42. > :24:45.in the world. I think sometimes people have to
:24:46. > :24:48.realise, these are the best competitors. You are in the mix
:24:49. > :24:51.there and beating a lot of them regularly, that has to give you
:24:52. > :24:55.confidence. Yes, there is one guy in there that
:24:56. > :25:00.beat me before, but I smashed him the other day. I would like to be
:25:01. > :25:03.consistent, and I am more consistent. Normally I'm not running
:25:04. > :25:08.these times until the back end of the season so it is looking good.
:25:09. > :25:12.Pascal is European leader at the moment, world lead, and I enjoy
:25:13. > :25:17.racing him. When I saw him at the will tell I was so excited, I
:25:18. > :25:21.thought, bring it on! -- when I saw him at the hotel.
:25:22. > :25:27.I can imagine you are excited, we are hoping he will take the victory
:25:28. > :25:31.next time. Thank you, Will. And he can talk.
:25:32. > :25:35.Let's had up to the women's high jump.
:25:36. > :25:44.Here she goes, 1.95. That is nice. That, very confident
:25:45. > :25:50.indeed for someone whose personal best from earlier this season is
:25:51. > :25:55.just 1.98. She won in Shanghai and one of the small meetings prior to
:25:56. > :26:00.that, then won in Beijing, she is putting together a very good CV, so
:26:01. > :26:04.to speak. The women's high jump has been going
:26:05. > :26:10.on for some time now, and this is Maria Kuchina.
:26:11. > :26:27.She has a third and final attempt at 1.95, very important jump. Ana Simic
:26:28. > :26:32.is the only one to clear up 1.95. She becomes the second person to
:26:33. > :26:38.clear, goes into second place in this high jump. She put it quite
:26:39. > :26:41.hard, but she is the youth Olympic champion of 2010, call hold of the
:26:42. > :26:54.world title just recently in the early part of this year. -- core
:26:55. > :26:58.holder. -- co-holder. Next up it is the women's 200m,
:26:59. > :26:59.Jodie Williams back in action, but watch out for the Olympic champion,
:27:00. > :27:17.Allyson Felix. There is the Bulgarian, Yvette Love
:27:18. > :27:21.over, European champion at 100m 2012, which makes is still reigning
:27:22. > :27:24.European champion. She has lain number two.
:27:25. > :27:30.The tight inside line is reserved for Irene Ekelund, world youth
:27:31. > :27:33.champion last year. She is just 17 years old, talent to be cherished
:27:34. > :27:40.and nurtured, this Swede. Allyson Felix, still on the comeback
:27:41. > :27:46.trail. She has had just a couple of races this year, fourth in
:27:47. > :27:50.Shanghai, then third in Eugene over 200m, 22.44. She said to me in
:27:51. > :27:56.Eugene she is still getting pain in that hamstring. It is not 100% but
:27:57. > :28:01.good enough to warm up on, train on and indeed to race on. In lane five,
:28:02. > :28:04.Felix, good God. She will have to go well because she will be tracing
:28:05. > :28:17.Soumare. Irene Ekelund, Yvette Llanover,
:28:18. > :28:22.Jeneba Tarmoh, Murielle Ahoure, Allyson Felix, Myriam Soumare, Jodie
:28:23. > :28:28.Williams, Barbie and clear -- Barbara Pierre.
:28:29. > :28:35.Not entirely clear what is causing all of this noise in the stadium,
:28:36. > :28:41.but in any case they are starting to bring them up. They are running to
:28:42. > :28:46.three minutes late at the moment. Allyson Felix is the fastest in the
:28:47. > :28:49.field. I cannot believe that the age of 28, Allyson Felix has been around
:28:50. > :29:03.for such a long time, this is her first time ever racing in Oslo.
:29:04. > :29:15.Second time of asking, then. The big names, Murielle Ahoure in
:29:16. > :29:22.four, Allyson Felix and five. Moving well in lane four is Ahoure
:29:23. > :29:24.alongside Allyson Felix. Third from right, Jeneba Tarmoh
:29:25. > :29:28.moving well. Lots of strength in the form to go
:29:29. > :29:32.clear of these athletes, and she is off. Felix is coming back, her
:29:33. > :29:37.season is returning to something like she is used to, she wins by two
:29:38. > :29:40.or three metres and the strength showing therein the last 50 from
:29:41. > :29:48.Allyson Felix as she eases away from those to her left. Those in lane
:29:49. > :29:52.four And lane three both run a better bend than her but she ran
:29:53. > :29:57.like a real 200m runner. She held her form all the way to the line
:29:58. > :30:01.just as the others began to fade. A big result for Jodie Williams
:30:02. > :30:05.because she has given in second place in 22.97. Look cat on the
:30:06. > :30:08.outside, that cannot be right. She comes through very strongly in the
:30:09. > :30:15.end. She did! A cracking run, she was so far down. Jodie Williams
:30:16. > :30:21.right on the outside in the seventh lane, very strong finish indeed. Ken
:30:22. > :30:25.three had a terrific bend, she was way ahead when they came out of the
:30:26. > :30:29.bend into the straight, but Felix's transition was good. Jodie Williams,
:30:30. > :30:34.coming into second place according to our computer. It was very close,
:30:35. > :30:39.blanket finish for the rest. Ahoure faded a little bit, but it is good
:30:40. > :30:44.to see Alex putt Allyson Felix back in business. Such a great champion,
:30:45. > :30:53.Olympic golds from 2012, winner of a record eighth Championship golds
:30:54. > :30:59.outdoors. We hope to speak to Alison letter. But from a British
:31:00. > :31:01.perspective, Jody Williams, finished like a train.
:31:02. > :31:06.perspective, Jody Williams, finished like She had a storming finish.
:31:07. > :31:13.Running against her all-time idol in this class field. We've seen what
:31:14. > :31:25.people have produced here has been sensational. The place is a little
:31:26. > :31:30.different. Here she is now, a tremendous performance by Jody. Come
:31:31. > :31:36.join us. A brilliant run off the back of that 100m. You looked tired
:31:37. > :31:45.towards the end but the way you finished, you must be delighted.
:31:46. > :31:54.Yes, it was a really strong field. I think the start threw me off a bit
:31:55. > :32:02.but by can't complain with -- I can't compete with that 200. I
:32:03. > :32:07.literally came off the track and went back, which was hard. I
:32:08. > :32:13.thought, forget about the 100, go and run the best you can in the 200.
:32:14. > :32:17.And up against Allyson Felix, yourself your heroes? Yes, it is
:32:18. > :32:23.crazy. Every time I race her, I can't believe I'm on the same track
:32:24. > :32:30.as her. I used to look up to her as a kid and now I'm a couple of lanes
:32:31. > :32:34.across the track. It's crazy. A nice job, so get yourself warmed down and
:32:35. > :32:39.recover. That really was a great performance. Thank you. Colin, a
:32:40. > :32:44.couple of great performances from our young sprinters. We talked about
:32:45. > :32:48.the pressure of them being great juniors and coming through the
:32:49. > :32:53.senior ranks. They both performed creditbly tonight. I love the fact
:32:54. > :32:57.that they were excited about their running. That's the most important
:32:58. > :33:02.thing, that they feel confident and comfortable in these conditions, and
:33:03. > :33:07.up against the best in the world. Indeed. Coming up is the Dream Mile.
:33:08. > :33:11.It is an event which has provided with us some amazing moments in
:33:12. > :33:24.track and field down through the years.
:33:25. > :33:35.This tremendous crowd are so used to records. Coe easing down slightly.
:33:36. > :33:49.The new world record. Is it to crack the world record? Yes, it is, cram
:33:50. > :33:56.has taken the world record. Bislett has the honour of yet another world
:33:57. > :34:03.record. A new world record for Great Britain and for Seb Coe. It's a
:34:04. > :34:11.world record! Bislett stadium comes to life. Yet another world record
:34:12. > :34:15.for Sebastian Coe. It is indeed an amazing record.
:34:16. > :34:20.Some great moments. The Dream Mile coming up shortly. I've been joined
:34:21. > :34:27.by Shara Proctor, second in the long jump. A season's best, getting
:34:28. > :34:32.towards your best now? Yes. I'm satisfied with a season's best but I
:34:33. > :34:38.want to jump further. I know I'm better than that. I'm being parity.
:34:39. > :34:42.I can't wait. Good performance. Go and get ready for the European team
:34:43. > :34:47.championships? No, I have nationals next. Good luck for that and we'll
:34:48. > :34:55.see you on the BBC soon tsunami. OK, the men's Dream Mile. It is what
:34:56. > :35:01.Oslo is all about. Chris O'Hare is competing for Great Britain, but
:35:02. > :35:28.watch out for Ayanleh Souleiman of Djibouti.
:35:29. > :35:41.Ayanleh Souleiman is a strong, aggressive racer.
:35:42. > :35:55.Four laps of the track. Previous winners reads like a who's who, Coe,
:35:56. > :36:01.Cram... More croft, Elliot. Six Britons have won this race before.
:36:02. > :36:06.Souleiman pumping along hard with that head-bobbing style of his. In
:36:07. > :36:12.contrast Matthew Centrowitz looks smooth there. Looking for a quick
:36:13. > :36:18.time here, Centrowitz. Help said he was frustrated with his 3. 50 in
:36:19. > :36:24.Eugene a couple of weeks back. Single file after just 300 metres.
:36:25. > :36:28.It is fast. We are looking for 56 seconds this first lap, nothing
:36:29. > :36:35.crazy. A couple of 57s is what's been asked for. 55. 06 by Bram Som,
:36:36. > :36:41.former European champion at 800 metres. That's pretty good. Most of
:36:42. > :36:49.that pack will have gone through in 56 seconds. Souleiman is in third
:36:50. > :36:55.place. Matthew Centrowitz is in fourth, Cronje the South African is
:36:56. > :37:02.in sixth. It is clipping along at a sensible tempo. I think that the
:37:03. > :37:08.people that matter are in the right place at the right time. Centrowitz
:37:09. > :37:14.is watching Souleiman, who is tucked in behind the pacemakers, looking
:37:15. > :37:19.strong. 3. 47 in Eugene was so impressive. They are all strung out
:37:20. > :37:26.now. There's a double level of mile here. They'll come up and see two
:37:27. > :37:31.laps to go in this Dream Mile. It is going to be tight. Centrowitz looks
:37:32. > :37:39.very comfortable indeed. He does, but that's his running
:37:40. > :37:50.style. Rono in second, Souleiman third, sent September and then
:37:51. > :38:02.Birgin -- Centrowitz and then Birgin. The pace maker has done a
:38:03. > :38:09.good job. One-and-a-half lap laps to run. Pretty much perfect. They can
:38:10. > :38:15.generate a quick time off this pace. Souleiman looking comfortable as he
:38:16. > :38:23.chases second pacemakers Rono, who is due to drop out at 1,200. They
:38:24. > :38:27.were looking at 2. 50 at three laps. APPLAUSE Souleiman from Centrowitz.
:38:28. > :38:36.Moving down the outside now, he could be a danger man, the former
:38:37. > :38:40.Ethiopian Tesfaye, who runs for Germany. This is slower than
:38:41. > :38:48.requested but they are all still there. 300 to run. Souleiman from
:38:49. > :38:58.Tesfaye. Centrowitz beginning to lose ground. Willis moving strongly
:38:59. > :39:03.in the orange. Looking good. Centrowitz has passed into fourth
:39:04. > :39:13.place. Crowd are on their feet. Souleiman is such a tough, tough
:39:14. > :39:18.customer. Souleiman with Tesfaye in second place. Willis in third.
:39:19. > :39:23.Ingebrigtsen having a marvellous run. Souleiman with Willis
:39:24. > :39:30.challenging for second place. Look at the time. 3. 49 from Willis and
:39:31. > :39:34.Tesfaye. Ingebrigtsen will have smashed his own Norwegian record.
:39:35. > :39:39.He's surely done 3751. The crowd loving that one. He is such a good
:39:40. > :39:44.competitor. Put him in a race where they are chasing world records and
:39:45. > :39:49.he might not be a factor, but where there's racing going on, and there
:39:50. > :39:54.was tonight, and he's always a danger. Henrik Ingebrigtsen. Whether
:39:55. > :39:59.you like that ponytail or not matters not a jot. He can perform,
:40:00. > :40:05.this lad. He's mixing it with the best of the for instance. Really
:40:06. > :40:17.good to see. Souleiman probably smarting after losing in Rome to
:40:18. > :40:24.Kiplgat. It is good to see Willis come out of that group. Tesfaye held
:40:25. > :40:33.that second place and looked very strong until Willis came past him.
:40:34. > :40:39.3. 49. A national record for Henrik Ingebrigtsen, 3. 50. 72. It was a
:40:40. > :40:43.race for everybody and Souleiman once again proves he is the man of
:40:44. > :40:51.the moment. No question about that. 3. 47 to 3. 49. Wonderful. ,ation of
:40:52. > :40:57.the win for Ayanleh Souleiman of Djibouti. The first three under 3.
:40:58. > :41:05.50. Henrik Ingebrigtsen, that fabulous national record, 3. 50. 72.
:41:06. > :41:11.The crowd love the Dream Mile and the pole vault. With me is Renaud
:41:12. > :41:17.Lavillenie. First time I've spoken to tow since you broke Sergei's
:41:18. > :41:23.record. Has it sunk into yet that you broke the record? It was crazy.
:41:24. > :41:29.Everybody was hoping to break that record that day, but it was more
:41:30. > :41:34.like a dream. For me it was just trying to do my best in that place.
:41:35. > :41:43.In fact everybody, in fact everything was perfect for me that
:41:44. > :41:48.day. I was really happy. In Moscow I was nervous because your team-mate
:41:49. > :41:54.looked like he would break my world record. I felt sick inside. What did
:41:55. > :41:58.Sergei say to you after you broke his record in his home town? For
:41:59. > :42:06.many years he is hoping a lot of things for me, so he was happy I did
:42:07. > :42:11.at this time in front of him. Now he is going over to something
:42:12. > :42:18.different. Of course, every record has to be broken, so even if it
:42:19. > :42:26.takes more than 20 years, it is still a record. In terms of your
:42:27. > :42:32.form so far outdoors, no 600 metres yet. I know you've had injury. How
:42:33. > :42:36.are you satisfied with your performance at the championships?
:42:37. > :42:45.Right now I have a long break with my ankle after the record. Right now
:42:46. > :42:52.I'm about to jump around 5. 80 and hopefully have a good win. We have a
:42:53. > :42:59.lot of time to prepare for at this time. I'm just waiting for good
:43:00. > :43:07.condition to be able to jump 5. 90, six metres, maybe higher. Today it
:43:08. > :43:12.was not possible to jump that pace but ping maybe in Lausanne or Paris
:43:13. > :43:19.I will show that I can be able to jump that high. I'm excited. We are
:43:20. > :43:40.excited about it too. I look forward to seeing you in Zurich. Thank you.
:43:41. > :43:46.is it hard to go on and take stock? It is perfect, and he enjoys this
:43:47. > :43:49.whole aspect of being a global star. And taking an icon's world record
:43:50. > :43:54.launches you're into that kind of stratosphere. For him he is enjoying
:43:55. > :43:59.the ride at the moment, let's see if he can get that ankle better and get
:44:00. > :44:02.that six metres mark. They love the Dream Mile here, and also the
:44:03. > :44:15.javelin, let's want catch up with that.
:44:16. > :44:19.Well, Tero Pitkamaki come in the fourth round of the javelin. He hit
:44:20. > :44:24.that one hard. That looked better and that is close
:44:25. > :44:29.to 85 metres. That could be good enough to take
:44:30. > :44:31.the lead. It is certainly 84, and that has to
:44:32. > :44:40.be the lead. Just waiting for that result to come
:44:41. > :44:48.up, and I have a feeling that the new dad, remember, he became a dad
:44:49. > :44:54.on Monday, 84.80, -- 84.18, season's best, first place.
:44:55. > :45:06.Maria Kuchina, third and final attempt at 2.01 in this high jump.
:45:07. > :45:15.No, no, no. She has gone. But, she is going to win this. She looked so
:45:16. > :45:29.solid until the third attempt at 1.95. But then she came back with a
:45:30. > :45:38.second time clearance at 1.98. Blanka Vlasic has one chance to go.
:45:39. > :45:42.Yes, 2.01 01 attempt left. When she is at her peak she would
:45:43. > :45:45.love this situation. No, she has got at all wrong.
:45:46. > :45:51.It's it on the way up and that is unlike her. She is about six foot
:45:52. > :45:54.five, she would normally clip it on the way down, but misjudged that
:45:55. > :45:58.one. Maybe she got too far from the bar. She actually clipped it with
:45:59. > :46:04.her elbow before most of her body got near it.
:46:05. > :46:09.Doesn't matter, three failures for bank of passage at 2.01.
:46:10. > :46:12.Solve competition from her, she is still enjoying her jumping, she has
:46:13. > :46:17.had such a dramatic time with that foot surgery back in January
:46:18. > :46:21.2012... Good to see Blanka Vlasic back in
:46:22. > :46:25.the mix, one of the real stars of track and field. Just one more event
:46:26. > :46:30.left here in Oslo, the men's 100m. There are two Brits, Adam Gemili and
:46:31. > :46:44.Richard Kilty, next to the top at international names.
:46:45. > :46:50.It is going to be a massive year for us both. Hopefully we will have some
:46:51. > :46:56.chance that winning medals into big championships this year.
:46:57. > :47:04.I think British printing is in one of the best places it has been for a
:47:05. > :47:08.while. The more and more guys we have got, the closer we can get to
:47:09. > :47:12.the Jamaicans, who are ahead of us and the moment.
:47:13. > :47:43.Well, this promises to be a tight 100m, I would imagine drama almost
:47:44. > :47:50.guaranteed. The extra dimensional from the British perspective as to
:47:51. > :47:56.chase that 9.96, which I am sure will play partly on Adam Gemili and
:47:57. > :47:59.Richard Kilty's mind. Yes, they will be thinking, they
:48:00. > :48:05.produced something fantastic, why cannot we? It has been a very
:48:06. > :48:09.impressive performance by our sprinters. Our women are leading the
:48:10. > :48:14.way at the moment and the guys will want to get in the mix. This field,
:48:15. > :48:19.don't underestimate them. There are nine men who have gone under ten
:48:20. > :48:24.seconds, and there are four of them in this competition today. It is a
:48:25. > :48:34.swift run we can expect. Richard Thompson is running, there is a good
:48:35. > :48:37.test to see where they really said in relation to him.
:48:38. > :48:42.Yes, he beat the record holder by 100th of a second.
:48:43. > :48:48.It is a talented race, this one, in so many aspects.
:48:49. > :48:51.Kim Collins, who is the grandfather of sprinting at the moment, right
:48:52. > :48:53.the way through to the beautiful boys.
:48:54. > :48:57.It will be exciting, people like Daniel Talbot, we can see that is
:48:58. > :49:04.really one of the strong relay runners, someone we can rely on, and
:49:05. > :49:07.great 200m runner. He will relish the opportunity to
:49:08. > :49:08.mix with a world-class field. It is exciting.
:49:09. > :49:31.Here in Bislett, the men's 100m. Watch out for Jimmy Vicaut, the
:49:32. > :49:49.Frenchman in lane three. A pretty even start. Vicaut got away
:49:50. > :49:52.well in lane three, moving very strongly indeed, and Kim Collins
:49:53. > :49:57.going well, here comes Thompson on the inside and it will be very close
:49:58. > :50:01.now. But it Vicaut or Thompson? It could have been Richard Thompson
:50:02. > :50:07.coming through strongly at the end, 10.03 into a headwind of 0.6 metres
:50:08. > :50:11.per second. Thompson had the last 20 metres or so, powered through.
:50:12. > :50:17.Vicaut looked as though he had got that race tied up, didn't he? Have a
:50:18. > :50:21.look at this, Vicaut got away well in the third lane.
:50:22. > :50:24.Adam Gemili working hard, did not get into the race in the first 60
:50:25. > :50:31.metres. No, Gemili working very hard to get
:50:32. > :50:34.past Collins, but in the meantime Thompson and Vicaut had got away
:50:35. > :50:37.from him. Roscommon is a big lad committee
:50:38. > :50:41.takes a while for him to get going, but once he gets into full flow he
:50:42. > :50:46.takes some catching. Thompson is a class performance,
:50:47. > :50:52.easy to forget his personal best is 9.85, years one metre quicker than
:50:53. > :50:55.Vicaut on paper. -- he is one metre quicker. That quality may be showed
:50:56. > :50:58.in the last six strides with Thompson maintaining his form
:50:59. > :51:03.better. Yes, Richard Thompson, big strong
:51:04. > :51:07.fellow, recently ran a 9.74. There was no wind gauge, but he said
:51:08. > :51:13.it was about plus four metres per second, he was very honest about it!
:51:14. > :51:17.He said I did not, even without a wind machine it was not a genuine
:51:18. > :51:21.performance. Adam Gemili gets through in third place, a good lad,
:51:22. > :51:25.he comes through strongly. Richard Kilty did not get away well in lane
:51:26. > :51:29.two, way off the pace. Richard Thompson from Trinidad and Tobago
:51:30. > :51:33.coming through very strongly to take the ways away from Jimmy Vicaut, who
:51:34. > :51:39.looked very much as though he was going to win that. Vicaut got third
:51:40. > :51:44.in Eugene, incidentally, a very good performance. And Thompson, well,
:51:45. > :51:48.couple of Olympic silvers from Beijing in 2008.
:51:49. > :51:50.You have to say, there are no flies on these youngsters now, self ease
:51:51. > :52:17.galore. -- self -- self Well, I have the British lads
:52:18. > :52:24.alongside me, Adam Gemili me, Daniel Talbot and Richard Kilty.
:52:25. > :52:28.Let's start with you, another place in the Diamond League, the start was
:52:29. > :52:32.probably not the stronger. It never is. Usually the second half of my
:52:33. > :52:36.race is the better parts I am trying to work hard and get that bit as
:52:37. > :52:38.well as I can to stay next to these guys.
:52:39. > :52:42.I was next to Kim Collins and Richard Thompson, and they are some
:52:43. > :52:46.of the best starters in the world. I tried to execute and did not do the
:52:47. > :52:49.best I could tonight. But fair play, it is OK.
:52:50. > :52:54.You came through strongly at the end and I had talked you would focus on
:52:55. > :52:59.the 200m at the trials. -- I heard talk.
:53:00. > :53:05.Tell us your thoughts for the rest of the season.
:53:06. > :53:10.For me, obviously at one of the championships everyone was shocked.
:53:11. > :53:13.He came second in Manchester and he did not even get an interview, but
:53:14. > :53:17.he has proven himself and done really well. Army for the rest of
:53:18. > :53:20.the season I am still undecided, I have to make decisions with my
:53:21. > :53:26.coach, I am still undecided, but potentially the 200m.
:53:27. > :53:29.You can have a little bit of a breather now.
:53:30. > :53:32.Daniel Comet must be fantastic for you to be in the mix because this is
:53:33. > :53:40.world class sprinting we have seen today. What was it like lining up?
:53:41. > :53:44.It is an honour to be asked to do it. I ran in pride on Monday, and
:53:45. > :53:48.they asked if I would do it, and I thought, definitely. To run against
:53:49. > :53:52.first of all these two guys, two of the best in Britain, is good
:53:53. > :53:55.enough, but especially Kim Collins and Richard Thompson, I thought I
:53:56. > :53:57.had to do it. You did not embarrass yourself in
:53:58. > :54:02.that field. Richard, squeeze in.
:54:03. > :54:05.For you it is an exciting time, you started your season very well and we
:54:06. > :54:10.are heading towards the Commonwealth Games and the trials. Where do you
:54:11. > :54:14.feel you are at this moment? I am still getting moving. It takes
:54:15. > :54:17.me a couple of races to get going but I am glad to be your enjoying
:54:18. > :54:21.myself and racing against the best guys. It is great, but hopefully I
:54:22. > :54:24.will keep getting quicker throughout the season, I have some things to
:54:25. > :54:28.work on with my coach, but I'm still not where I want to be, but I am
:54:29. > :54:32.sure I will get there when the time is right. I'm just enjoying myself
:54:33. > :54:36.competing against these guys. It is massive at the moment, sprinting in
:54:37. > :54:38.this country, so it is great to be part of that.
:54:39. > :54:43.You talk about sprinting in this country, there must be a real sense
:54:44. > :54:46.of anticipation about what you can do with the relay.
:54:47. > :54:50.I think there are no worries for us in the relay. I think we can
:54:51. > :54:54.definitely be challenging the Jamaicans and Americans, no doubt
:54:55. > :54:59.about it. Thank you for speaking to us.
:55:00. > :55:02.We're really looking forward to the trials.
:55:03. > :55:06.I know you will be nervous but we're really excited. Well done, guys.
:55:07. > :55:13.We will get back to the TV programme in a minute!
:55:14. > :55:16.A nice attitude from the guys there. I suppose Adam will be a little
:55:17. > :55:21.disappointed with that, and he said he did not have a great start, but
:55:22. > :55:28.he did get to have Kim Collins next to him, which accentuates that.
:55:29. > :55:33.Sometimes your world class athletes, like Adam, the lot of bit
:55:34. > :55:37.more expectation on new now because he has been in the big league, he
:55:38. > :55:41.has run against the big guys and has had these guys commentating on him.
:55:42. > :55:45.He has his own personal expectations, that is why he may be
:55:46. > :55:48.disappointed. But the trials are something to relish, we're rubbing
:55:49. > :55:53.our hands together because it will be sensational.
:55:54. > :56:01.James Dasaolu, his injury problems resulting, another -- persisting,
:56:02. > :56:05.another one is Usain Bolt, Diaz had to pull out of the Paris Diamond
:56:06. > :56:09.League. Any news on him? There is no real
:56:10. > :56:14.news, we know he had to pull out, and when you are at the level of
:56:15. > :56:17.Usain Bolt, talking about the expectation on our guys, this guy
:56:18. > :56:21.has the expectation of the whole world on him.
:56:22. > :56:26.He is one of the athletes that like to deliver when he gets on track. He
:56:27. > :56:30.will look to make sure there is at least nine seconds before goes on
:56:31. > :56:33.track. In terms of this evening and the
:56:34. > :56:38.performance of the evening from a British point of view? It has to be
:56:39. > :56:42.Jessica Judd. A phenomenal performance from her
:56:43. > :56:46.and a personal best, you cannot knock that. Jodie Williams was very
:56:47. > :56:51.close in getting my vote, but Jessica gets it this time.
:56:52. > :56:57.It has been a great evening here at the Bislett games, the Dream Mile
:56:58. > :57:01.was eight, as matter was great, but all of the dreams I think were in
:57:02. > :57:05.the women's 800m, Jess Judd had a difficult winter. She had a
:57:06. > :57:09.fractured bone, Paula Radcliffe helped her through that, she had not
:57:10. > :57:13.run for about three months and today she got a personal best. That is it
:57:14. > :57:17.from young Colin, the next Diamond League athletics is next Saturday
:57:18. > :57:21.from New York. Until then, from all of us, it is goodbye.
