:00:45. > :00:51.Welcome to the Olympic Stadium in Rome for our first Diamond League

:00:52. > :01:01.meeting on BBC 3 this summer. Denise Lewis is with me trackside.

:01:02. > :01:04.There are things always kick off very quickly in these events.

:01:05. > :01:08.Denise Lewis is with me trackside. There are things always kick off

:01:09. > :01:10.very quickly in these events. It's a summer which includes

:01:11. > :01:13.the European Championships and the Commonwealth Games, and

:01:14. > :01:17.our first race features an athlete who could be one of the stars

:01:18. > :01:22.in Glasgow come the end of July. Scotland's Eilidh Child goes here

:01:23. > :01:25.in the 400 hurdles against former world champion

:01:26. > :01:29.Lashinda Demus, and Kaliese Spencer, who ran the fast time in the world

:01:30. > :01:44.this year on Saturday in Eugene. Let's join our commentary team.

:01:45. > :01:52.The conditions are absolutely perfect. A very still Olympic

:01:53. > :01:56.Stadium. This will be a real opportunity for The Times to come

:01:57. > :02:04.down a little bit. It has not been very impressive so far this season.

:02:05. > :02:11.Rosolova, European indoor champion in 2011. Silver medal in the

:02:12. > :02:23.European 400 metres hurdles in 2012. Tracey from Jamaica, 21. Fifth in

:02:24. > :02:29.the World Junior Championships. Titimets from Ukraine. Fourth in the

:02:30. > :02:37.world Championships in 2013. Spencer from Jamaica, the winner in Eugene.

:02:38. > :02:42.Tiffany Williams of America. Eilidh Child of Great Britain. Moline of

:02:43. > :02:45.the United States and Pedroso of Italy. Stoddart of Jamaica is in

:02:46. > :03:08.lane eight. The calm conditions should mean that

:03:09. > :03:13.we have got some reasonable times. Not much in it at all as we go into

:03:14. > :03:19.the first bend. Nobody really making an impact as they go down the back

:03:20. > :03:28.straight. Child going quite well. Tiffany Williams is inside her.

:03:29. > :03:39.Child going very strongly indeed. Williams inside her. Spencer yet to

:03:40. > :03:45.emerge from the fray. Spencer now beginning to make some headway on

:03:46. > :03:49.the inside. The Jamaican stuttering to that horrible. Really had to work

:03:50. > :03:55.very hard. Moline going well into second place. Eilidh Child in third.

:03:56. > :04:01.Spencer's second 100 was really impressive. That is the world leader

:04:02. > :04:07.time. I said the conditions were good and they are. It is a good race

:04:08. > :04:14.-- it was a good race. Spencer ran a very even pace. Not really with it

:04:15. > :04:19.until the final stages and when she finally started to attack of those

:04:20. > :04:23.hurdles, still a very good performance? Yes, really well

:04:24. > :04:39.judged. Steady through the first 200. Spencer is undoubtedly the best

:04:40. > :04:44.at the moment. That time goes to prove it. Good times behind her as

:04:45. > :04:49.well. One of the championships this year will be the Commonwealth Games

:04:50. > :04:55.and Spencer, as a Jamaican, will have her eyes on that. Child will be

:04:56. > :04:57.running for Scotland. These two getting to know each other. They

:04:58. > :05:01.really good performance from spencer. -- a really good

:05:02. > :05:19.performance. Eilidh Child has joined us. Coming

:05:20. > :05:20.along nicely? It was a solid race. It did not quite go as I planned but

:05:21. > :05:29.it is only my second hurdles race. It did not quite go as I planned but

:05:30. > :05:33.Coming along nicely. 54.82. Eight weeks tonight the final of the 400

:05:34. > :05:35.hurdles will be an Hampden Park at the Commonwealth Games. You are one

:05:36. > :05:40.of the big faces of the games. the Commonwealth Games. You are one

:05:41. > :05:43.track is laid. It looks the Commonwealth Games. You are one

:05:44. > :05:49.How excited are you? It is so exciting. I stay away from Scotland

:05:50. > :05:53.quite a lot because the pressure is building up. It will be an amazing

:05:54. > :06:02.games. Hopefully I can put on a good show. Is it fun, that kind of

:06:03. > :06:05.pressure? There were certain people whose faces were pulled out of

:06:06. > :06:12.London 2012. Is it fun being that person? Yes, you have to see it as

:06:13. > :06:20.support. I have spoken to Jessica Ennis-Hill dieted and she -- about

:06:21. > :06:28.it and she just said to enjoy these moments. You have had quite a copper

:06:29. > :06:32.hands of indoor season. How have you managed to consolidate and change

:06:33. > :06:38.the training so you do peak at one of your biggest races? It is all

:06:39. > :06:48.down to Malcolm, my culture. It is in his hands. -- my coach. I just

:06:49. > :06:51.want to build on what I did last year and hopefully it works out

:06:52. > :07:01.again. Well done. Keep the progress of. That is what she wants, isn't

:07:02. > :07:09.it? Eight weeks to go. Still a lot of training and racing to be done? ,

:07:10. > :07:16.yes, we have seen in recent years, Eilidh has put a lot of work in. She

:07:17. > :07:21.is reaping the benefits of that. There is pressure. But you have to

:07:22. > :07:24.welcome it. You have to embrace it and use it. There is still a lot of

:07:25. > :07:31.work to be done between now and then. She could have been expecting

:07:32. > :07:36.one of her main protagonists to be Perri Shakes-Drayton, who has yet to

:07:37. > :07:41.get on the track, as far as we know. We hear maybe it will be the

:07:42. > :07:46.400 metres flat for her last -- this season. She has not raced since the

:07:47. > :07:49.World Championships. We do not expect to be in the Commonwealth

:07:50. > :07:54.Games in the 400 metres hurdles. That puts the focus very much on

:07:55. > :07:57.Eilidh? Its doors but as it does for every person competing for

:07:58. > :08:02.Scotland. They want to do well for their country. Eilidh has put

:08:03. > :08:06.herself in a great position. She understands what is expected. She is

:08:07. > :08:12.a grafter. She ran the perfect race there. I am very optimistic for her

:08:13. > :08:15.chances. A very exciting summer ahead for Eilidh Child.

:08:16. > :08:23.And this is what else we've got coming up between now

:08:24. > :08:26.and nine o?clock. The Brits take on the best

:08:27. > :08:30.in the Men's 100 metres, as Adam Gemili and Richard Kilty

:08:31. > :08:32.face Justin Gatlin - the fastest man in the world this year.

:08:33. > :08:34.Shelly-Anne Fraser-Pryce is indisputably the quickest woman

:08:35. > :08:38.on earth right now. She goes in the 100 metres.

:08:39. > :08:48.We've got a fantastic High Jump. We've got a fantastic High Jump.

:08:49. > :08:51.The top five in the world are here. Four men have gone over two metres,

:08:52. > :08:54.40 this year, and they're ALL competing here.

:08:55. > :08:57.And the one, two, three in the women's hurdles from the World

:08:58. > :08:59.Championships meet again tonight. It's Rollins versus Pearson

:09:00. > :09:01.versus Britain's Tiffany Porter. That women's 100 hurdles is

:09:02. > :09:39.at 7.35 UK time. We love to hear from you on social

:09:40. > :09:43.media. If you want to tweet any questions to Denise or just make a

:09:44. > :09:48.point about the athletics, get in touch. Let's talk a little bit about

:09:49. > :09:53.a race coming up at the end of the evening. The two Brits, there is

:09:54. > :09:56.quite an interesting dynamic developing in British sprinting.

:09:57. > :10:05.Richard Kilty and Alec -- Adam Gemili. He will be desperate to

:10:06. > :10:11.break ten seconds this season, warranty? Yes. Everything is

:10:12. > :10:15.pointing in the right direction. He has the capabilities but so does

:10:16. > :10:20.Richard. That is why it is such an exciting season for British

:10:21. > :10:28.sprinting. There have been few battles going on. A little bit of

:10:29. > :10:34.needle. Both at Loughborough. Awkward dynamic. Is it good? Does it

:10:35. > :10:44.spurred them on? Sprinters like a bit of angst. They need to keep

:10:45. > :10:49.pumped up. They are both mild-mannered people. Very nice. But

:10:50. > :10:57.at the end of the day these guys are going to be making up our four by

:10:58. > :11:06.one. They have run really well this season already. They have got bigger

:11:07. > :11:09.fish to fry than having a go at each other. The men's 1500 metres about

:11:10. > :11:22.to go off. Kenya's Abel Kiprop -

:11:23. > :11:42.the 2008 Olympic champion and reigning world champion.

:11:43. > :11:55.Makhloufi bounced back in Doha. This, most people suggest, is the

:11:56. > :12:01.man to beat tonight. Kiprop. Overturned a big loss from the man

:12:02. > :12:20.from Djibouti last Saturday. They have asked for a pace, 1.51.5 --

:12:21. > :12:25.1.51.100. They have got to be tired. You go to Joe Hart, the Bahamas,

:12:26. > :12:36.Eugene and now in Rome. It has to be tiring. -- Doha. This is a big

:12:37. > :12:51.field. If you want quality it is a very big field indeed. Away they go.

:12:52. > :12:59.It will be interesting to see if they go with the pace or not. They

:13:00. > :13:15.have started fairly sensibly. They are all right up there at the very

:13:16. > :13:20.beginning. Kiprop will be following Souleiman this time and seeing

:13:21. > :13:30.things -- how things pan out. Through the first 300 metres. 41.42.

:13:31. > :13:38.Quick enough. The principles really got into the race straightaway. --

:13:39. > :13:45.principality. Kiprop just shadowing Souleiman. He had that magnificent

:13:46. > :13:51.mile race in Eugene. To run 3.47 is absolutely superb. It looks to me as

:13:52. > :13:59.though it is moving along a bit now. They are spreading wrote -- out. It

:14:00. > :14:03.was interesting, the first 400 metres, Kiprop just outside 47

:14:04. > :14:10.seconds. That would be slow compared to what they normally do. The

:14:11. > :14:24.pacemaker has decided to pick things up a little bit. Suleiman behind the

:14:25. > :14:32.two pacemakers. The pace is not that quick. They asked for 1.51. It has

:14:33. > :14:38.been well of that. There are some tired legs out there today.

:14:39. > :14:49.Souleiman and Kiprop are the main leaders. Now they start to stretch

:14:50. > :14:52.it out a little bit. Certainly the third lap is absolutely significant

:14:53. > :15:03.in this race. Souleiman just hanging on. Kiprop is behind him. While Tay

:15:04. > :15:12.is in that leading group as well. -- while Tay.

:15:13. > :15:26.and then the race will really get under way.

:15:27. > :15:36.Silas Kiplagat can be very dangerous in the sprint finish. Now Souleiman

:15:37. > :15:45.down the back straight and Silas Kiplagat manages to respond. Silas

:15:46. > :15:55.Kiplagat will wait for the others to move out. Let's see what he can do

:15:56. > :15:59.here. They all still pretty close. Asbel Kiprop will be hoping he can

:16:00. > :16:04.overturn what happened in Eugene the other week. The gap opens up for

:16:05. > :16:10.Kiplagat to come through and this time it is going to be Kiplagat. It

:16:11. > :16:20.is going to be a pretty fast last lap. 3.30.45. Well, well, well.

:16:21. > :16:27.Souleiman, settling for second this time. Kiplagat was second to kick in

:16:28. > :16:32.Doha and second to Souleiman in Eugene and it is his night tonight

:16:33. > :16:36.in Rome. He waited and waited. A different type of race. A good solid

:16:37. > :16:43.race initially and then it started to wind up. Some tired legs, I am

:16:44. > :16:54.sure. Kiplagat coming through the best and rewarded. Souleiman 3.31. A

:16:55. > :16:58.wonderful piece of judgement by Kiplagat of Kenya to come past the

:16:59. > :17:03.man who had really taken all of the power of the pressure of the pace.

:17:04. > :17:09.And in the end, he suffered a bit because of it, I reckon. Kiplagat

:17:10. > :17:16.coming through very strongly. Asbel Kiprop, the champion in 2008, won in

:17:17. > :17:22.Doha, and this speeded up dramatically after the relatively

:17:23. > :17:29.slow start to the race. 3.30.45 is the unofficial time.

:17:30. > :17:39.Steve Cram said it in commentary. Some tired legs. There was a race in

:17:40. > :17:45.Eugene last weekend and Asbel Kiprop was in that. He has been a stalwart

:17:46. > :17:50.all season but he has raced already. In a fantastic race in Doha he went

:17:51. > :17:54.under 3.30 but maybe the running is showing in his legs. Absolutely. You

:17:55. > :17:58.saw him crossing the line and he looks very dejected. Very tired. You

:17:59. > :18:03.don't often see him blowing at the end of a race and he really does

:18:04. > :18:08.look tired. That defeat was crushing and he did everything in that race.

:18:09. > :18:13.He was in the right position but coming down the home straight he had

:18:14. > :18:16.nothing to respond to. A flurry of stories in the press in the early

:18:17. > :18:19.part of the week saying the Kenyans wanted the athletes back for their

:18:20. > :18:22.trials and the Commonwealth Games and they were not going to raise

:18:23. > :18:27.here tonight, but of course this is where they are because this is where

:18:28. > :18:32.they make their cash. I suppose it is about gauging how you do that

:18:33. > :18:35.throughout the season. You can race too much too early and the

:18:36. > :18:40.Commonwealth Games will be big for him. He was the man in Monaco who

:18:41. > :18:45.won the fabulous race when Mo Farah got his British record in the 1500

:18:46. > :18:50.metres. Perhaps Mo Farah will be in that 1500 metres in Glasgow. We

:18:51. > :18:54.don't know yet. I hope so. Going back to the race itself, I think for

:18:55. > :18:57.the athletes on the Commonwealth Games, selection is such a big part

:18:58. > :19:01.of it. A lot of athletes are facing this, that they have to make sure

:19:02. > :19:05.that they get their selection, but at the same time make sure that they

:19:06. > :19:10.are sharp enough and keep the federations happy. It is a very hot

:19:11. > :19:18.Thai job competition going on behind us. The early stages. -- high jump

:19:19. > :19:23.of edition. We don't always choose the pictures you see, so we cannot

:19:24. > :19:27.always determine when you will see the field events. But three men have

:19:28. > :19:35.already jumped over 2.42 this season. The world record of 2.45 was

:19:36. > :19:41.set three years ago and is ever closer. Maybe with the field so

:19:42. > :19:49.strong and the conditions so the effect, it could be the night. --

:19:50. > :19:53.the conditions so perfect. Psychologically for the athletes,

:19:54. > :19:58.the ones that have been over 2.40, they feel it. It used to be a

:19:59. > :20:08.target. Now there is a good crop of athletes flying over we will see and

:20:09. > :20:13.no doubt you will see plenty of that high jump competition as they get

:20:14. > :20:15.closer to the 2.40 mark. Next up on the track, they are getting

:20:16. > :20:22.themselves ready for the men's 400 metres. LaShawn Merrit is featured

:20:23. > :20:26.in this. He lost last weekend in Eugene against his great rival,

:20:27. > :20:38.Kirani James. LaShawn Merrit is starting to come

:20:39. > :20:43.onto the shoulder of James. Kirani James giving him a hard time! Can he

:20:44. > :20:52.get ahead? It is going right to the line! Just on the line. 43.98. Just

:20:53. > :20:56.outside the meeting record. It will be the quickest in the world this

:20:57. > :21:05.year. What a great race from these two. Absolutely superb. A massive

:21:06. > :21:09.rivalry has developed between Kirani James and LaShawn Merrit. It is

:21:10. > :21:13.fantastic when we get a great head to head in athletics. Kirani James

:21:14. > :21:16.is not here tonight. Some people find it difficult to watch LaShawn

:21:17. > :21:29.Merrit because of his earlier drugs ban. How do you feel? We see a time

:21:30. > :21:33.and again. Athletes that have been banned seem to be welcomed by the

:21:34. > :21:37.athletics fraternity. They have served their time and they are back.

:21:38. > :21:41.It is part of the sport and it is not just in athletics that it

:21:42. > :21:45.happens. The rivalry is great, for me. James, the young of the two,

:21:46. > :21:52.even though he is not here tonight, I feel that event will really take

:21:53. > :21:56.off. He will take it to new heights. And perhaps challenge the Michael

:21:57. > :22:02.Johnson record one day. Maybe! I hope we are in the studio with him

:22:03. > :22:06.when that happens! It is a great field but it may not have the great

:22:07. > :22:11.head to head between Merritt and James. Nigel Levine is that from

:22:12. > :22:17.Great Britain as well. They are getting ready hopefully for a very

:22:18. > :22:25.quick one lap of the track. Steve Cram and Stuart Storey.

:22:26. > :22:30.Santos is the Olympic silver medallist from London, bronze

:22:31. > :22:36.medallist last year. He has had some wonderful races. Only a youngster.

:22:37. > :22:47.And LaShawn Merrit, two Olympic gold medals. Of course second in Eugene.

:22:48. > :22:51.43.97, just down on Kirani James. Youssef Masrahi has been proving

:22:52. > :23:00.himself to be pretty useful. And so has David Verburg. He has a best of

:23:01. > :23:17.44.77, as I said, and David Verburg has 45.03. Nigel Levine of Great

:23:18. > :23:22.Britain got two indoor silver medals. He has got the outside lane

:23:23. > :23:24.and he will be the man to recreate the challenge for the rest. He is

:23:25. > :24:21.the target. Merritt has gone off pretty quickly,

:24:22. > :24:28.already up on. He is leading at the moment. Santos has got a lot to do.

:24:29. > :24:47.Josh Mannes of the United States is running pretty strongly in main two.

:24:48. > :24:50.-- Josh Mance in lane two. Here comes LaShawn Merrit of the United

:24:51. > :25:00.States, showing some class. He will take this. And second place is in

:25:01. > :25:05.lane six, Youssef Masrahi, coming through very strongly. It is not

:25:06. > :25:11.just that he has had a lot of 400 metre races. He has had some high

:25:12. > :25:17.quality 400 metre races. He have to run close to 44.5 to run these days.

:25:18. > :25:21.He ran steadily and then when he got to 300, he was in a position to

:25:22. > :25:29.attack and then he ran away from the field. He makes 44.48 look very

:25:30. > :25:34.easy. It is done in the last 70 metres. It is not that he is running

:25:35. > :25:37.quickly. He is maintaining a speed that the others cannot hold onto.

:25:38. > :25:43.Look at that very strong action. If he is not in the form of his life,

:25:44. > :25:46.he is very close to that. That race against Kirani James the other day

:25:47. > :25:54.it was classic and he did not want to lose it. He did but back to

:25:55. > :25:55.winning ways here tonight. Santos cannot get in between Merritt and

:25:56. > :25:59.James at the moment. A cannot get in between Merritt and

:26:00. > :26:07.others might come in as the season moves on. LaShawn Merrit showing his

:26:08. > :26:10.class, the only man in the field going under 45 seconds. Looking like

:26:11. > :26:20.it was relatively easy and comfortable. 44.48. Without Kirani

:26:21. > :26:25.James to put him on, he opened up a gap with the rest of the field. Yes,

:26:26. > :26:29.and a perfectly judged race. He goes out hard, which he tends to do, and

:26:30. > :26:33.he maintains his form through the line. The Americans have dominated

:26:34. > :26:37.this event for many years. They have the eight quickest times of all time

:26:38. > :26:42.and he is right up there and he is quite happy. Why is that? Other

:26:43. > :26:47.countries don't seem to be able to get close. Why do they have strength

:26:48. > :26:51.and depth over 400 metres in particular? Good coaching. They seem

:26:52. > :27:00.to embrace the event. The top eight times of all time. We had our own

:27:01. > :27:09.heritage, didn't we? We did. We have had a great tradition ourselves.

:27:10. > :27:14.Kirani James is sandwiched between the Americans. They have just

:27:15. > :27:19.embraced the event. Let's look ahead to an event coming up in the summer.

:27:20. > :27:22.Tyson Gay is making his comeback against Justin Gatlin. We taught

:27:23. > :27:29.them about LaShawn Merrit's brush with authorities and his drugs ban.

:27:30. > :27:33.-- we talked them. There has been a lot of talking about Tyson Gay

:27:34. > :27:38.coming back against a controversial drugs bigger. People have asked

:27:39. > :27:42.about the other guys in the race. Do they like it? The centre of

:27:43. > :27:46.attention will be on these guys for the wrong reasons. That race will

:27:47. > :27:51.take centre stage and it will be about those two. It will. The

:27:52. > :27:55.athletes know it and they have to put it to the back of their minds

:27:56. > :27:57.and get on with the job in hand. It is surprising that he has been

:27:58. > :28:05.allowed to come back quite so quickly. A year. Yes. I wonder what

:28:06. > :28:10.message it sends out to everybody else. He cooperated with the

:28:11. > :28:16.American drug authorities, which is why it is a year. Wilder has not

:28:17. > :28:20.said otherwise, a two-year ban would be the norm for the first offence.

:28:21. > :28:24.It seems that the rules have been manipulated. He must have given them

:28:25. > :28:29.valuable information. From the get go when he was exposed and he got

:28:30. > :28:33.caught, he put up his hands and said that somebody in his team had let

:28:34. > :28:36.him down. He has not try to deny it and he seems to have been

:28:37. > :28:40.cooperative. Does that make it right? It is for everyone to judge.

:28:41. > :28:45.He is back and we have to get over it but it will spoil the race, I

:28:46. > :28:54.think. Justin Gatlin is in Rome and he will be racing towards the end of

:28:55. > :28:56.the evening with two Brits, Adam Gemili and Richard Kilty. How is the

:28:57. > :29:10.high jump coming on? Early days... Just goes to show! A

:29:11. > :29:21.warm up for the best in the world. He looked like he was clear.

:29:22. > :29:34.Bohdan Bondarenko is also a 2.41 man. Such a tough cookie. Year and

:29:35. > :29:45.2.41 this year. He made no mistakes. -- 2.42 last year and 2.41 this

:29:46. > :29:49.year. Great power, creating that arch.

:29:50. > :29:53.There is a way to go in the high job just yet and we will keep you posted

:29:54. > :29:58.as the evening progresses. Next up is the women's 800 metres hurdles.

:29:59. > :30:10.We have gold and bronze from the Moscow World Champion ships last

:30:11. > :30:17.summer and what a race that was. Rollins is left sleeping. Tiffany

:30:18. > :30:25.Porter is there. Rollins storming through. Silver for Sally Pearson.

:30:26. > :30:36.Bransford Tiffany Porter. What a race. That's my bronze water. The

:30:37. > :30:39.news that we heard that before coming on it tonight was that Sally

:30:40. > :30:49.Pearson had to pull out at the very last moment. Pearson only got into

:30:50. > :30:52.Europe early in the week. Said he did not feel right after getting off

:30:53. > :30:56.the plane. Her body was not feeling good. People love in warm up. After

:30:57. > :31:04.the difficulty getting through to last summer, when she was injured,

:31:05. > :31:08.she didn't kind of completely connect, did she? We were all hoping

:31:09. > :31:15.after another good strong winter she will you back to her best. This may

:31:16. > :31:18.just be another hiccup. I think the Americans definitely ruffled

:31:19. > :31:26.feathers last year. Sally did run well at the despite the injuries.

:31:27. > :31:30.She was just pipped into silver at the championships. She would have

:31:31. > :31:35.been looking forward to a full winter of training? She would have

:31:36. > :31:43.been. It is a shame she is not here tonight. A mouthwatering prospect.

:31:44. > :31:48.It looked like a really strong line-up earlier on today. Yes,

:31:49. > :31:54.sure. And Ali, the World Indoor Championship is looking good.

:31:55. > :31:58.Pearson is one person who does not shirk competition. These girls tend

:31:59. > :32:04.to compete. They do not mind. They don't try to avoid each other. Still

:32:05. > :32:09.is a fantastic line-up. Tiffany Porter runs for Great Britain. She

:32:10. > :32:14.is gaining so much confidence from that bronze medal in Moscow.

:32:15. > :32:19.Absolutely. Their interviews, our demeanour, she seems to be a

:32:20. > :32:24.different athlete. -- her whole demeanour. Her technique has

:32:25. > :32:32.improved in the latter part of the race. A different Tiffany Porter. A

:32:33. > :32:52.stronger Tiffany Porter. Let's get track-side to Steve and Stewart.

:32:53. > :33:07.Harper-Nelson, the Olympic champion in 2008. Ali, was a champion this

:33:08. > :33:17.year. 7.8 doors, Shiva. That is pretty tough quarter. If you are

:33:18. > :33:24.well at the moment. -- Tiffany is running well at the moment Caravelli

:33:25. > :33:25.on the outside. What a shame that Sally Pearson is not able to

:33:26. > :34:35.compete. Very long hold indeed. Rollins

:34:36. > :34:50.getting away pretty well. Chased by Harper-Nelson. Harrison going well.

:34:51. > :34:54.Rollins may have got beaten by Harper-Nelson. It was very close. It

:34:55. > :34:59.was very close. It was a tough race. Right at the finish, Rollins had the

:35:00. > :35:11.dominant throughout the race, and it was a close A brilliant start from

:35:12. > :35:14.Rollins. It looked as if she had the win in the bag with you. Very tight

:35:15. > :35:26.on the line. Caravelli took a terrible. Harper-Nelson coming

:35:27. > :35:33.through. Harrison. Harper-Nelson. Many fans have wheezing and you are

:35:34. > :35:41.a -- how many times have we seen doing that in a major championship?

:35:42. > :35:55.They have given it to Rollins on the angle. That is not the a second stop

:35:56. > :36:05.Rollins from Harper-Nelson. Come on, she says! Come on, she says! , a

:36:06. > :36:10.Harper-Nelson Azi. You are a big jump in. He has been there. He was

:36:11. > :36:31.second in 12 Sally Pearson. This woman is difficult a given.

:36:32. > :36:37.You could not put a piece of paper between them. It was really

:36:38. > :37:02.difficult to decide on that for the finish. Is this a massive great.

:37:03. > :37:04.It's like things were going well. Is it one of the

:37:05. > :37:09.It's like things were going well. Is of the season, that you have let?

:37:10. > :37:15.Yes, we have that raises some fans. It is a question of improving. I

:37:16. > :37:19.want to go back to the drawing board and develop next time. I'm assuming

:37:20. > :37:24.the Commonwealth Games and European Championships at the big

:37:25. > :37:30.events for you summer. How difficult is it to make sure that you have the

:37:31. > :37:34.right time? That is the thing. I keep reminding myself of the big

:37:35. > :37:40.picture. It would be nice to perform well here. But I have championships

:37:41. > :37:49.this year to focus on. The picture. Thank you so much. You can get those

:37:50. > :37:55.races when things do not go to plan. You have a some athletes are

:37:56. > :38:02.constantly trying to look for that age. -- you have to remember the

:38:03. > :38:11.Tiffany has had to be evaluated. She has a. It's the way. It is about

:38:12. > :38:28.putting together. She knows she has to find a 10th, a tense, people with

:38:29. > :38:45.these girls. Life there is strength in depth That is why we love being

:38:46. > :38:51.at the US trials because we know the next generation is going to catapult

:38:52. > :38:55.from those type of races, where it is nip and tuck. A new name every

:38:56. > :39:00.season. They are all quick. They have the pedigree. They have got the

:39:01. > :39:08.speed. They have got a huge pool to choose from. Let's check on the

:39:09. > :39:21.men's high job. It is just behind us. -- high jump. This is Drouin in

:39:22. > :39:26.the high jump. He is said to go out into the lead on his own. He will be

:39:27. > :39:34.wanting to put some pressure on Bondarenko. He has only had one job

:39:35. > :40:01.so far. Drouin, unlike some of the others, had a failure. No, felt a --

:40:02. > :40:07.he was nowhere near that. This event has really been built up, and

:40:08. > :40:16.rightly so. All of the main contenders involved. This fellow is

:40:17. > :40:22.just a youngster, really, in terms of the event. But what a performer

:40:23. > :40:31.he is. He has got a good competitive brain. The 2.28 may cost him in

:40:32. > :40:37.terms of the final outcome. That was a very good clearance. He attacks

:40:38. > :40:41.the bar. He runs in very quickly. Superb arch. A very good clearance.

:40:42. > :40:50.It looks as though there is a lot more in the tank.

:40:51. > :40:55.So only three men over 2.31 at the moment. It is going a bit slowly,

:40:56. > :41:01.this world record attempt! All good things will come to those who wait.

:41:02. > :41:04.A chance to pose for a moment and talk about what was a really

:41:05. > :41:13.impressive performance from Katarina Thompson Johnson last week. She has

:41:14. > :41:19.been pushing the barriers back, doing better every season. With the

:41:20. > :41:24.Commonwealth games this season, potentially biggest competition, it

:41:25. > :41:30.is important to stamp her mark? Yes. A great gauge and how good her

:41:31. > :41:37.winter was. -- on how her winter was. To put it all together, and she

:41:38. > :41:47.still has room to improve, it's fantastic. More than 6000 points she

:41:48. > :41:52.amassed. That would have won her a gold medal in Moscow. We talked

:41:53. > :41:57.about as a prospect. It is amazing how much progress you can make in

:41:58. > :42:02.the habitat than over the winter. So exciting to see what she has got and

:42:03. > :42:13.how she has improved. Where is the biggest right,? Staying healthy. 23

:42:14. > :42:17.seconds for a heptathlete is outstanding running. She is being

:42:18. > :42:23.pushed on by a group of young athletes, also vying for position.

:42:24. > :42:43.She is in good shape. Looking good. A serious gold medal prospect. The

:42:44. > :42:50.women lining up for the 5000 metres. Dibaba has, the indoor season

:42:51. > :42:57.incredible form. She has not translated onto the track. She looks

:42:58. > :43:01.of of sorts. How does she keep producing these world records and

:43:02. > :43:11.annihilating the world record, not just by little margin? She is one to

:43:12. > :43:17.watch. She has got the pedigree. Ayana, the bronze medallist at the

:43:18. > :43:19.world Championships last season. This is one of the loaded line-ups

:43:20. > :43:25.of the night. Real quality and class. We should be a good race.

:43:26. > :43:40.Conditions are ideal for a pretty good time.

:43:41. > :43:56.If the father was the fifth and last --

:43:57. > :44:04.I'm not sure anybody will want to deal with that. If your pacemaker

:44:05. > :44:10.for a couple of laps, you the one everybody has off. It would be just

:44:11. > :44:18.a case of making sure you get the win tonight. I'm not sure we're

:44:19. > :44:25.going to see anything particularly quick. We may do in the second half

:44:26. > :44:33.of the race. Not much interest pacemaker. They are springing out a

:44:34. > :44:42.little bit. There is no sense of urgency. They are all Bunting. That

:44:43. > :44:51.gives you a clue that all of a clue that all pervasive off a little. --

:44:52. > :44:59.bunching. We would just break off from the race for a moment to fill a

:45:00. > :45:46.prostitute Kynard in the high jump. -- to go over to Kynard. Bohan

:45:47. > :45:53.Bondarenko is in the big names are playing he is a big, solid citizen.

:45:54. > :46:02.Now, Mutaz Barshim, what can you do? World indoor champion. 2.40 in

:46:03. > :46:08.Eugene last year. He is such a talent. He moved on so quickly. He

:46:09. > :46:12.is beginning to develop, and I say that because he is getting more

:46:13. > :46:19.consistent at these heights way above 2.30. But we will see. 2.34

:46:20. > :46:27.cleared brilliantly. That was absolutely superb. Cool, calm and

:46:28. > :46:33.collected. That look of relaxation on his face. His take-off position

:46:34. > :46:44.absolutely spot on. A wonderful arch to cross that bar. This young woman,

:46:45. > :46:52.the Cuban, Steve? Having a good night in terms of the competition.

:46:53. > :47:05.Only two have gone clear at 4.60. A second attempt at 4.70. Both passed

:47:06. > :47:10.at 4.65. I thought maybe they could have had three failures at 4.65 but

:47:11. > :47:18.the two have attempted this tide. Neither clear. She is dynamic. Not

:47:19. > :47:36.the tallest but she has muscles and she powers into it. A real contrast

:47:37. > :47:43.to the next person to vault. We will go back to this 5000 metres. The

:47:44. > :47:55.fact that she is still leading this means it has not been very fast.

:47:56. > :48:05.They are one minute outside the moment. When you think of the shape

:48:06. > :48:09.that Genzebe Dibaba was in, she is sitting at the back of the field,

:48:10. > :48:13.keeping an eye on things, seeing what is happening to her. Jo Pavey

:48:14. > :48:18.is now 40 years old and a mother. It is great to see her back. Looking

:48:19. > :48:23.forward to seeing her on the track. Julia Bleasdale is another one. And

:48:24. > :48:28.the Americans, Kim Conley and Molly Huddle. This is better for them.

:48:29. > :48:33.Right in the pace they would have been involved in. Maybe not to be

:48:34. > :48:46.expected so many people at this pace. Molly Huddle is closer to the

:48:47. > :48:54.front. Nadia Noujani is in the lead. She is dangerous and has got to be

:48:55. > :48:57.watched. If they are going to head for under 15 minutes, then they have

:48:58. > :49:04.to move things along and we can expect some fireworks over the next

:49:05. > :49:09.few laps from the likes of Genzebe Dibaba. Yes, the Doha situation was

:49:10. > :49:15.strange. Apparently she was not very well but after three indoor records

:49:16. > :49:27.and such power over a diverse range of distances, it was clear that she

:49:28. > :49:31.was odds on favourite. She has the armoury definitely of that

:49:32. > :49:59.magnificent family of Dibabas. To Ernesto Baba holds the record here.

:50:00. > :50:05.-- Tiranesh. He nearly sat upon the bar there!

:50:06. > :50:11.It was 2.56 for the second kilometre and now they are lapping at the sort

:50:12. > :50:21.of place you might have expected at the beginning. They are well capable

:50:22. > :50:27.of it. It is interesting now that Almaz Ayana is forcing things on.

:50:28. > :50:31.Just watching Mercy Cherono, happy to sit back. Molly Huddle in fourth

:50:32. > :50:35.place, realising that they gap is appearing with Almaz Ayana and

:50:36. > :50:44.Dibaba. Making sure the gap does not get too big too early. Jo Pavey

:50:45. > :50:46.looking as though she is working hard at the back of the lead group

:50:47. > :51:02.in these early stages. Almaz Ayana leads it, Dibaba in

:51:03. > :51:09.second. Then a gap. They might want to close it down very quickly. A

:51:10. > :51:17.good 1500 metres race as well. The men's triple jump. This is the man

:51:18. > :51:25.who did so well, Adams. Some sinister looks around the track!

:51:26. > :51:34.Adams just looking at his performance. He really does need to

:51:35. > :51:45.get in amongst this. Into a slight headwind, not .4, which is hardly

:51:46. > :51:48.anything. -- 0.4. That looked like a shortened approach. I wonder if he

:51:49. > :52:02.had some kind of injury because he did not look at all comfortable. The

:52:03. > :52:09.men's triple jump is continuing and Almaz Ayana is still at the front of

:52:10. > :52:15.the 5000 metres. The laps are coming down in duration, which has broken

:52:16. > :52:22.up the field. Quite a few athletes are beginning to struggle. Molly

:52:23. > :52:32.Huddle is in the next group. Behind Jo Pavey by some way. Now they are

:52:33. > :52:36.starting to move. Dibaba comfortable in second place. Mercy Cherono no

:52:37. > :52:53.why she has always been, pretty close. -- where she has. Another

:52:54. > :53:01.little gap appearing. Here Ayalew struggling in the distance. Almaz

:53:02. > :53:14.Ayana was the surprise package last year. She set a good personal best.

:53:15. > :53:20.And that 3000 personal best in Doha was nearly overlooked because of how

:53:21. > :53:31.well she ran. Just going back to the high jump. Ukhov, his third attempt.

:53:32. > :53:36.He had to get that and he didn't. He has had the same problem each time

:53:37. > :53:44.dropping onto the bar. The 2.40 man has gone out with a successful jump

:53:45. > :53:49.of 2.28. Not a good day at the office. Have another look. His

:53:50. > :53:52.approach is not quite right. He is just dropping down onto the bar.

:53:53. > :53:59.These heights should be fairly commonplace. That event was of

:54:00. > :54:03.course built up to be one of the highlights of the night but it is

:54:04. > :54:10.not proving to be the case at the moment, certainly not for Ukhov. Now

:54:11. > :54:14.Almaz Ayana is leading and a gap appears with Dibaba. The four best

:54:15. > :54:25.athlete in this field starting to pull away now. Ayana is pulling away

:54:26. > :54:35.a bit. Gaps have appeared but that will not be hurting Dibaba and Mercy

:54:36. > :54:41.Cherono too much. What sort of finish are we going to see from

:54:42. > :54:48.Dibaba tonight? If you can run 3.55 indoors, you must be full of

:54:49. > :54:52.confidence in the latter stages of races like this. But she has not

:54:53. > :54:56.carried that form into the start of the summer season. Will it be back

:54:57. > :55:05.to winning business for Dibaba tonight? Just over 1000 metres to

:55:06. > :55:12.go. The base has been very slow at the beginning and then it picked up

:55:13. > :55:21.in the middle. -- the pace. These four pulling well clear. Ayana just

:55:22. > :55:31.making sure the others are working. We just go back to the triple jump

:55:32. > :55:33.again. Martinez's second jump. He needs to find something. They are

:55:34. > :55:55.all finding it pretty tough. 16 years old. Unbelievable.

:55:56. > :56:01.looked better and it was better! That is a 17 metre jump, no

:56:02. > :56:07.question. The world youth champion. That was only last year and he is

:56:08. > :56:12.only 16. Well! Mature beyond his years, let's say that. Lovely first

:56:13. > :56:17.phase. Good control in the middle. At to work a little bit in the

:56:18. > :56:30.middle. But good form and momentum on the landing, which will certainly

:56:31. > :56:33.be the lead. It is. 17.07. Ayana must realise that if she cannot pick

:56:34. > :56:44.things up here then the inevitable will happen. It looks like a little

:56:45. > :56:48.bit of struggle for Jelagat Kibiwot. Dibaba is beginning to wind herself

:56:49. > :56:52.up for the moment when she will strike and making sure it is

:56:53. > :56:57.decisive when she does strike. That gap between her and the Kenyans will

:56:58. > :57:02.be one that is difficult to close on the last lap. Ayana is doing a

:57:03. > :57:08.brilliant job. Can she spring a surprise? It looks comfortable. 68

:57:09. > :57:14.for the penultimate lap. Is it going to be enough? Can it take the sting

:57:15. > :57:17.out of Dibaba? Realising the danger, she should have gone past 100 metres

:57:18. > :57:25.ago and with that gaps you will find it difficult to close. The two

:57:26. > :57:31.Ethiopians are trying to strike. Ayana hanging on to Dibaba. It is

:57:32. > :57:36.turning into two metres. The other Kenyans are disappearing. Nothing to

:57:37. > :57:38.offer. Dibaba does not have this yet. Ayana is very strong but to

:57:39. > :57:43.does not have the pace yet. Ayana is very strong but to

:57:44. > :57:47.up. She will keep maintaining. It will be a good win for Dibaba. Not

:57:48. > :57:55.as impressive as it might have been, not as impressive as in the winter

:57:56. > :57:57.for my money, but still a victory. Not interested in a superfast time

:57:58. > :58:01.but by Not interested in a superfast time

:58:02. > :58:11.performance. It will be outside 14.30. Dibaba wins it spot on 14.35.

:58:12. > :58:19.Ayana takes a well-deserved second after all that hard work. Jelagat

:58:20. > :58:24.Kibiwot takes third. The big races will come and the record attempts

:58:25. > :58:32.will come as well. It is looking hard and they are wincing a bit.

:58:33. > :58:36.Maybe a blister. That was an impressive enough last lap. Yes, an

:58:37. > :58:43.impressive second half of the race as well. She looked very

:58:44. > :58:47.comfortable. She did everything absolutely right, Hiwot Ayalew, but

:58:48. > :58:53.it was not enough. This gives us hope that perhaps that indoor talent

:58:54. > :59:00.will emerge on the track. And it is beginning to do so now.

:59:01. > :59:08.Dibaba gets her win on the track. And some of that indoor four might

:59:09. > :59:14.come to fruition now. It is a world leading time. It was not a very

:59:15. > :59:20.quick race but you can only beat what is around you. Absolutely. She

:59:21. > :59:24.just looks majestic when she runs. The effort does not show on her

:59:25. > :59:28.face. She just turns on the power and speed and she is gifted.

:59:29. > :59:33.Regardless of it being a long race, you still need to have that speed

:59:34. > :59:40.and she had it in abundance. Look at who she has beaten. Ayana, Mercy

:59:41. > :59:45.Cherono, Molly Huddle. A very strong field. Early days but she is sending

:59:46. > :59:52.out the right messages. Another Dibaba! What a rich heritage that

:59:53. > :00:21.family has got. These are the top stories from Rome so far?

:00:22. > :00:27.Harper-Nelson by one of its second place tired. LaShawn Merritt

:00:28. > :00:42.strolled to victory in the men's for the figures. Conrad Williams was a.

:00:43. > :00:49., we have an's 200 metres. Just before, it is the 100 metres. Justin

:00:50. > :00:55.Gatlin is the big man. This made here particularly loves. Usain Bolt

:00:56. > :01:00.has not run yet so far this season. Adam Gemili was have -- will have

:01:01. > :01:05.his eyes Gatlin. He really put his name amongst the big boys last

:01:06. > :01:10.season. He competed so well in Moscow. He has had a really good

:01:11. > :01:18.season so far. What has happened in the high jump? We think that was

:01:19. > :01:23.2.41. We are heading towards the 2.45 world record. You will see that

:01:24. > :01:27.in a moment. I met Adam Gemili earlier this year to see just how he

:01:28. > :01:32.combines his arduous studies at the University of East London, with even

:01:33. > :01:42.more arduous training in an attempt to be one of the best in the world.

:01:43. > :01:47.At the British trials in 2012 when I made the team, I was really happy. I

:01:48. > :01:52.woke up the next day and that was it for me. It was not a big deal. I did

:01:53. > :01:59.not realise the scale of it. How hard people that trained. Do you

:02:00. > :02:04.feel guilty now? ! A little bit! When I am on the start line and you

:02:05. > :02:09.see me smiling, especially at 2012, it was just because I was enjoying

:02:10. > :02:14.myself. I had no expectations. I was just there to have fun. I try to do

:02:15. > :02:19.that now. I am not the type of person to be angry and aggressive.

:02:20. > :02:25.I'm not that kind of person. I try to enjoy myself. Usain Bolt has fun.

:02:26. > :02:30.The more relaxed you are, the better it is. What ad has got which a lot

:02:31. > :02:35.of other British sprinters do not have is he has come into the sport

:02:36. > :02:40.very raw. He has no fear. He does not know the bad side. A lot of

:02:41. > :02:44.other sprinters we have had, and a lot of sprinters who have won the

:02:45. > :02:48.World Junior Championships, have appeared in their early 20s were it

:02:49. > :02:52.has not worked out for them. They have had a lot of negativity. It

:02:53. > :02:57.scars them. They have to deal with them further in their career. What

:02:58. > :03:00.we're trying to do in British have -- athletics with the sprinters is

:03:01. > :03:05.to make sure they do not have this situation where they are asked

:03:06. > :03:10.talented as juniors and fade away in their early 20s. In terms of your

:03:11. > :03:16.goals and dreams and hopes and aspirations, do you set yourself

:03:17. > :03:24.targets for each season? Is it a long-term thing? For me, I just want

:03:25. > :03:28.to make the next Olympics. That is probably the long-term goal. Short

:03:29. > :03:33.term this year, Commonwealth games and European Championships. You want

:03:34. > :03:36.to go and win. As silly as it may sound with some of the sprinters you

:03:37. > :03:41.have got in the world at the moment, you want to be challenging for a

:03:42. > :03:49.gold medal. A gold medal is what every sprinter once. -- wants. You

:03:50. > :04:13.will see Adam Gemili in action later.

:04:14. > :04:23.But missed anything. You can now see how the high jump competition is

:04:24. > :04:33.getting on. Two metres and 41 for brushing. -- Barshim. That was a

:04:34. > :04:48.very good clearance! 2.41 equals the world. That is a new meeting record.

:04:49. > :04:53.The record has stood since 2005. He has forced Bondarenko up to that

:04:54. > :05:02.height. That looks very, very much like he could attempt something much

:05:03. > :05:06.more. That is world record jumping. It really is hotting up to be a

:05:07. > :05:12.great head to head between Barshim and Bondarenko. The host broadcaster

:05:13. > :05:18.will show us the pictures when they can. It is right behind us. They are

:05:19. > :05:27.on that -- their way to a magic 2.45. 21 years the record has stood.

:05:28. > :05:31.Maybe it is going to go. It is incredible. In the last couple of

:05:32. > :05:37.years we have felt it could go. These guys are pushing each other

:05:38. > :05:42.on. Clearing 2.40 on a regular basis. It would be fitting of the

:05:43. > :05:50.record goes tonight. I am chuffed for Barshim. Injury problems last

:05:51. > :05:59.year. He is back to his best. 1993 was when the record was set. 2.45.

:06:00. > :06:03.At the time, when those records are broken, you don't necessarily think

:06:04. > :06:09.it is going to take 21 years to break it. So many guys have got

:06:10. > :06:14.close. That is nearly two and a half metres. It is so high. It is up

:06:15. > :06:24.here. These guys are clearing it. They are clearing 2.41, 2.42. This

:06:25. > :06:28.is why I love live athletics. On TV you cannot put it into perspective

:06:29. > :06:33.how high it is. Using their own forces to propel themselves over

:06:34. > :06:39.this incredible height. I hope I can see it. Obviously I was not there

:06:40. > :06:48.last time, a much younger girl! Don't be cheeky! We're moving on to

:06:49. > :06:53.the men's 200 metres. We will talk a bit more about Adam Gemili as we

:06:54. > :06:59.head into the 100 metres in about 50 minutes. This is the 200 metres

:07:00. > :07:04.race. Lemaitre is the fastest man in the field. The fastest man in the

:07:05. > :07:10.world so far this year. Who are the other names we should be looking out

:07:11. > :07:16.for? There is a young Jamaican in the field. There is always a young

:07:17. > :07:22.Jamaican coming through. Julian Forte is definitely one to watch in

:07:23. > :07:28.Lane nine. Making waves. It will be interesting to see how he adapts to

:07:29. > :07:32.this environment. It is a good field. None of these guys have

:07:33. > :07:39.dipped under 20 seconds so far this year. Let's see if they can do it

:07:40. > :07:43.tonight. Back to Steve and Stewart. The men's meter -- the men's 200

:07:44. > :08:01.metres. Lemaitre... Deep in concentration.

:08:02. > :08:41.Difficult lane with Edwards inside him. Byram, the American.

:08:42. > :08:50.Not a great deal in it. I think Edward might have taken something

:08:51. > :08:57.out of his man on the outside. Forte of Jamaica is going well. Alonso

:08:58. > :09:04.Edward on the inside. What a good run by Lemaitre! Second behind

:09:05. > :09:13.Edward. 20.19. That was a very good race. To wire was challenging well.

:09:14. > :09:25.-- Dwyer. It went with the form book in a way. Edward came in here with

:09:26. > :09:34.20 seconds dead. 20.19. Lemaitre, 20.24. Lovely transition from

:09:35. > :09:41.Edward. Look on the inside in Lane two, how well Dwyer was going at

:09:42. > :09:48.this stage. Also Mitchell, Lemaitre was really having a go. It was a

:09:49. > :09:54.very good race indeed. Lemaitre really had belief. If Lemaitre could

:09:55. > :10:02.run a bend like Edward he could have a chance. We know he is untidy and

:10:03. > :10:06.he is big. The arms do things they should not do. It just gives Edward

:10:07. > :10:15.the few metres coming into the home straight. Lemaitre was pecking,

:10:16. > :10:17.trying to get there. Edward looking good so far. Unbeaten so far this

:10:18. > :10:36.year. Three season's bests in the race.

:10:37. > :10:41.Ashmeade, Edward and Lemaitre B3 in the points at the moment. That will

:10:42. > :10:56.certainly change as the season develops. -- are the three and the

:10:57. > :11:00.points. This is the javelin. The Australian in second place. She

:11:01. > :11:12.broke the Australian record earlier this year. Still leads with 61.98.

:11:13. > :11:19.Difficult conditions out there for the javelin throwers. The air is

:11:20. > :11:24.pretty still. Quite heavy, to be honest. The only advantage they have

:11:25. > :11:31.got is that the wind is slightly over their shoulder, which is good.

:11:32. > :11:38.Bondarenko, look at this. 2.41, he passes, and he goes for 2.43. This

:11:39. > :11:51.would be almost history. Only Sutter Meyer has gone higher. See if he can

:11:52. > :12:05.do it. That was close. If anything, that was even better. Barshim has

:12:06. > :12:13.got V2 .41. Bondarenko past at that height. Looking down the field and,

:12:14. > :12:20.of course, there was a failure at 2.31 which caused him to pass at

:12:21. > :12:28.2.41 and do 2.43. Look at that. He has passed all the way through.

:12:29. > :12:33.Talking about the Cuban triple jumpers. This man has seen his young

:12:34. > :12:43.compatriot take the lead. He is leading with 1707. -- 17 point 07.

:12:44. > :12:58.The triple jumpers have struggled out there as well tonight.

:12:59. > :13:05.A lot of big triple jumpers will have two go home tonight and say

:13:06. > :13:11.they were beaten by a 16-year-old. -- to go home. That would be big

:13:12. > :13:21.news. It certainly would. Fifth place. The high jump now. Barshim is

:13:22. > :13:31.going to have a third attempt at 2.43. If both men fail their last

:13:32. > :13:38.attempts at 2.43. Then Barshim wins by virtue of his appearance at 2.41.

:13:39. > :13:44.This would be an area record. It would be two centimetres of the

:13:45. > :13:51.world record. This young fellow has really grown in stature since his

:13:52. > :13:57.bronze medal in the Olympic games. His consistency has been impressive.

:13:58. > :14:04.His competitive brain has been working well. Long, long approach to

:14:05. > :14:18.the far side of the track. That was so close! I thought he had

:14:19. > :14:27.got it! It was the slightest little naked on the top of that bar. My

:14:28. > :14:32.goodness, May. -- my goodness me. It shows three failures but that was

:14:33. > :14:36.quite something. That was as close as it gets. If we watch the slow

:14:37. > :14:46.motion we will see how close that was. Just his socks! Let's put it

:14:47. > :14:51.down to his socks! What a great effort. Bondarenko to come. The

:14:52. > :15:15.women's javelin. This is the leader. of them are struggling but she is

:15:16. > :15:23.getting it to fly and that is better. Just beyond the leading

:15:24. > :15:28.marker. The world leader is beyond 66 at the moment but they are not

:15:29. > :15:36.near that. It is a pretty good field. Earlier on tonight, we had a

:15:37. > :15:42.cracking women's triple jump competition. Really got going in the

:15:43. > :15:54.second round. Gay of Cuba following in some great traditions. There was

:15:55. > :16:06.an early lead of 14.17 in round one. It went to 14.38 and lasted for

:16:07. > :16:10.quite a while. Koneva of Russia, world indoor champion, produced a

:16:11. > :16:17.great effort. Second best in the world this year. It was close to

:16:18. > :16:32.where the Winter Olympics were held in Sochi. And then Ibarguen really

:16:33. > :16:35.sat and watched all of that and that was when the competition came to

:16:36. > :16:41.light. The Colombian had a fairly easy night, to be honest. Just two

:16:42. > :16:46.jumps. 14.08 in the first round and then this was good enough for the

:16:47. > :16:51.win. That strapping on her hamstring may have been a factor, not wanting

:16:52. > :16:56.to jump too much. She then limped off, which tells you everything you

:16:57. > :17:01.need to know. But she had enough in that hamstring to get the win. Not

:17:02. > :17:13.by much, 14.48, and she took no further part in the competition.

:17:14. > :17:20.Williams in eighth place. Two wins out of two for the Colombian,

:17:21. > :17:24.Ibarguen. And Koneva got two points tonight in second. It is all

:17:25. > :17:32.happening back on the track. The women's 800 metres and what an

:17:33. > :17:42.interesting race it will be. Marina Arzamasova on the inside. Ajee

:17:43. > :17:46.Wilson, the great young American. And talking about youngsters, I

:17:47. > :17:57.can't wait to see the Cuban athlete, Diago Mesa.

:17:58. > :18:04.They were meant to be sharing a lane and I am trying to work out who is

:18:05. > :18:12.not there. They have shifted it around a bit. Or maybe they are in

:18:13. > :18:14.the correct lanes? That's years, in four. I am not convinced they are in

:18:15. > :18:25.right lanes but four. I am not convinced they are in

:18:26. > :18:38.all there. Two former champions in that lane. Angelika Cichocka. And

:18:39. > :18:41.Janeth Jepkosgei eye, she has just turned 20. I apologise for the wrong

:18:42. > :18:49.captions coming up here. Wilson, the former youth champion. And then next

:18:50. > :19:05.to her, this is a real talent, the person many people want to see. Just

:19:06. > :19:10.18 years of age, Diago Mesa. She ran 1.57.74 in Cuba and she is heading

:19:11. > :19:17.the world rankings at just 18. Let's see how she goes here. Malika

:19:18. > :19:28.Akkaoui and Marta Milani sharing a lane. The officials are not doing

:19:29. > :19:33.anything about putting them in the lanes that they are supposed to be

:19:34. > :19:43.in, unfortunately. This is Martinez, in lane eight, and she ran macro the

:19:44. > :19:52.1500 the other day. -- she ran. Eunice Sum is the world 800 metre

:19:53. > :20:04.champion. And on the outside, Agatha Jeruto, the pacemaker.

:20:05. > :20:10.The women's 800 metres, away they go. I am interested to see if the

:20:11. > :20:20.likes of cast Semenya is back on form. Running at the weekend as

:20:21. > :20:33.well. Big new names could come to the fore in this. And great

:20:34. > :20:37.experience for the likes of Janeth Jepkosgei as well. Sensibly sitting

:20:38. > :20:42.off the pace now. Yes, the principles are bunching together in

:20:43. > :20:50.that trading group behind the pacemaker. Just looking to see how

:20:51. > :20:59.they are faring. The Cubans are there, Diago is there. The remainder

:21:00. > :21:10.of the group all bunching together. 400 to go. 57.81 is a good first 400

:21:11. > :21:15.metres. Agatha Jeruto likes to be at the front. Diago looks like she is

:21:16. > :21:19.ready to pounce. Does she have the pace and strength? It will be

:21:20. > :21:27.interesting to see. Eunice Sum will take the lead when the pacemaker

:21:28. > :21:30.drops out. Ajee Wilson on the inside as well. Eunice Sum will try and

:21:31. > :21:38.control this from the front. Boxed on the inside. So many looks

:21:39. > :21:47.terrible as she struggles over the final 200 metres -- Caster Semenya.

:21:48. > :21:50.If the 18-year-old has anything to give, she will have to get on good

:21:51. > :21:54.terms with Eunice Sum now but she will not be able to. They are all

:21:55. > :21:59.finishing very quickly that they are not going to catch Eunice Sum. Diago

:22:00. > :22:04.will hang onto second place. A real scrap for third and Eunice Sum takes

:22:05. > :22:08.the victory. More from that youngster to come, I am pretty sure.

:22:09. > :22:12.But the World Champion has done a good job of controlling things very

:22:13. > :22:18.nicely for me. When the pacemaker drops out, you are left at the

:22:19. > :22:22.front, just winding it up, winding it up, nothing anyone else can do

:22:23. > :22:28.about it. She is learning to be one of the best tactical 800 metre

:22:29. > :22:31.runners at the moment. Very good for Eunice Sum, returning to the

:22:32. > :22:39.eventually knows best. Pretty much controlled that. She did. --

:22:40. > :22:45.returning to the event she knows best. Pretty much controlled that.

:22:46. > :22:56.Yes, taking the pace early on. She controlled it. You have to say that

:22:57. > :23:00.this 18-year-old is a real talent. Those 1.57s just underlined on

:23:01. > :23:08.occasions like this. Eunice Sum looks very strong indeed. Nobody is

:23:09. > :23:13.really dominating the women's 800 metres running for me yet. If you

:23:14. > :23:16.are World Champion, you have to come and win the races and she will be

:23:17. > :23:20.hoping to get confirmed selection for the Commonwealth Games over the

:23:21. > :23:31.weekend. I am sure that the Kenyan team will pick her. Some pushing and

:23:32. > :23:37.shoving. Martinez giving Marina Arzamasova a shove, but that is what

:23:38. > :23:42.happens in the 800 metres. She brought the field back to a steady

:23:43. > :23:49.pace at 400 and finished in control. Watch out for Diago. She will be a

:23:50. > :23:57.favourite. 20 years of age. A season's best. Ajee Wilson finishing

:23:58. > :24:05.well in third. Two out of two for Eunice Sum in the Diamond race.

:24:06. > :24:13.This is our leader and I said it would not take long for her to get

:24:14. > :24:18.back to the top of the pile. 66.43. This is live. Another big effort.

:24:19. > :24:29.That is more like it. Close to the lead. The world leaders are just

:24:30. > :24:36.evading her. Clearly a year out has not made much difference at all.

:24:37. > :24:42.Spotakova all smiles. Close there. 66.43 in the second round and that

:24:43. > :24:47.one just a bit shy. 66.38. Completely dominating this event at

:24:48. > :24:53.the moment. Pool metres ahead of everyone else. The Olympic champion

:24:54. > :25:04.very much back in the groove. -- pool metres ahead of everyone else.

:25:05. > :25:15.Apologies, that was the previous successful jump. There we go. She

:25:16. > :25:24.did win at 4.70. She failed 4.83 times. We are just updating you on

:25:25. > :25:32.that. -- three times she failed 4.80. She is so athletic.

:25:33. > :25:39.That was his third and final and he clipped it as well! Bohdan

:25:40. > :25:47.Bondarenko gets second place. My goodness me. That shows that that

:25:48. > :25:53.world record at 2.45 is in some danger this season, if they get the

:25:54. > :26:05.conditions right. They plan it well. They both clipped it with their

:26:06. > :26:11.heels, almost identically. Young Mutaz Barshim.

:26:12. > :26:18.The world record is not to be tonight but Mutaz Barshim and Bohdan

:26:19. > :26:27.Bondarenko enjoying a fabulous competition. With so many of these

:26:28. > :26:36.men getting 2.40 and over. It really was just his socks, wasn't it? So

:26:37. > :26:40.not far away. I was a bit disappointed by Ivan Ukhov, but he

:26:41. > :26:46.seems to be having trouble with his run-up. That event is going from

:26:47. > :26:50.strength to strength. A wide range of nationalities represented. It is

:26:51. > :26:54.really interesting, diversity in that particular that. Not so much in

:26:55. > :27:01.sprinting. Jamaicans and Americans still dominating the short and

:27:02. > :27:06.sprints. Next up Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. The double Olympic,

:27:07. > :27:13.double World Champion. She has taken everything that has come at her. She

:27:14. > :27:20.competed in Doha, not looking full throttle, pushed all the way. But it

:27:21. > :27:27.is early days in the season for her. After that long season with the

:27:28. > :27:31.World Championship, everybody is pushing all the way. Some athletes

:27:32. > :27:35.are not yet at 100% and maybe for them this is the season that they

:27:36. > :27:40.take their feet off the gas. A lot of the top athletes, especially from

:27:41. > :27:44.Jamaica, there is a dilemma. Yes, you want to represent your country

:27:45. > :27:47.and to be there, but with the Olympics and the World

:27:48. > :27:53.Championships, that cycle is very demanding, it really is. Shelly-Ann

:27:54. > :28:00.Fraser-Pryce, she is tripling up, basically, rounds and relays, and it

:28:01. > :28:04.takes its toll and she is not a machine. I think she has looked

:28:05. > :28:10.quite lacklustre. Even indoors she was not quite as up until she

:28:11. > :28:15.stormed to victory in the final at the indoors. The Diamond League is

:28:16. > :28:23.about making money for the athletes because it is very tough. It is

:28:24. > :28:26.important to put it into context. There are some lucrative global

:28:27. > :28:30.sponsorship deals for people like Usain Bolt, but in Jamaica, not a

:28:31. > :28:35.wealthy country, she does not go back home and find herself blessed

:28:36. > :28:41.with tonnes of contract and endorsements, so she makes her cash

:28:42. > :28:45.on the circuit. Absolutely, an appearance fee and trying to win the

:28:46. > :28:51.thing overall. It makes a difference but I would like to see her

:28:52. > :28:55.dominating in Rio, 2016, and if she carries on and has a season which is

:28:56. > :29:00.lacklustre, she may run brilliantly tonight and tell me to shut up! But

:29:01. > :29:10.what I have seen so far has been hit and miss. Murielle Ahoure in the

:29:11. > :29:14.field as well, having pushed her many times before. From the Ivory

:29:15. > :29:22.Coast. And Kerron Stewart, another Jamaican pushing her. Tori Bowie

:29:23. > :29:27.from the USA was amazing over 200 metres. She obliterated the field.

:29:28. > :29:27.Very surprising. It is her big outing in the

:29:28. > :29:32.Very surprising. It is her big will be interesting to see how she

:29:33. > :29:38.handles the 100th. Let's get down to the track. The next event is the

:29:39. > :29:57.women's 100 metres. weeks for Fraser-Pryce. She ran in

:29:58. > :30:11.Italy a couple of days ago. She ran slow by her standards. Bartoletta is

:30:12. > :30:17.capable of going under 11 seconds. Third at the World Indoor

:30:18. > :30:25.Championship this year. What about this lady? Tory belly. -- Bowie.

:30:26. > :30:34.Ready to do something in the 100 metres. Great long jumper as well. I

:30:35. > :30:44.think Bowie is going to be a real danger. Bowie has set personal bests

:30:45. > :30:52.this year at 60 metres indoors. 6.95 for the long jump indoors. A new

:30:53. > :30:59.personal best of 100 metres. The great win over 200. Shelly-Ann

:31:00. > :31:11.Fraser-Pryce, the double Olympic champion, in Lane four. Bowie in the

:31:12. > :31:18.blue with the number seven. Stewart on the other side of Fraser-Pryce.

:31:19. > :31:29.The women's 100 metres. Question marks over the Jamaican's form. A

:31:30. > :31:37.clean start. Fraser-Pryce got off well. Bowie is storming through. It

:31:38. > :31:48.is going to be incredibly tight. Bowie gets it! A poor start from the

:31:49. > :31:52.long jumper. She shopped them over 200 metres in Eugene and she has

:31:53. > :31:56.done it again over the 100. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is not in

:31:57. > :31:59.the sort of form she would want to be in. If that hamstring is

:32:00. > :32:05.bothering her, she needs to go away and sorted out. Somebody of her

:32:06. > :32:07.calibre, although she will be all smiles, I don't think she would be

:32:08. > :32:16.too happy about not winning these races. Stewart got off better than

:32:17. > :32:23.Bowie. Bowie had a terrible start. Fraser-Pryce was not that out of the

:32:24. > :32:30.blocks. Bowie took a metre, 1.5 metres out of them in the last 30

:32:31. > :32:35.metres. I think when you look at that performance, you saw her run

:32:36. > :32:40.that 200 from the inside lane, that takes a lot of strength endurance

:32:41. > :32:46.and speed endurance. When you are working hard at the end of the race,

:32:47. > :32:51.she has a little bit more armoury. So has Fraser-Pryce. She is not as

:32:52. > :33:07.fit as we have seen her before. I am very impressed with Bowie. Two in

:33:08. > :33:13.succession. She has come on a lot. Tory Bowie, you said watch out for

:33:14. > :33:19.her. She has come here in good form. A terrible start. She was

:33:20. > :33:25.almost left in the blocks. She powered through with 30 metres to

:33:26. > :33:35.go. She looked really good. I have to say, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, we

:33:36. > :33:42.are so not used to seeing anything less than fantastic. She is not the

:33:43. > :33:50.same. I am sure, although she is still smiling, she is not happy.

:33:51. > :33:52.Bowie is going to be coming down the line any second. Shelly-Ann

:33:53. > :34:00.Fraser-Pryce talking to Italian television. She is still smiling.

:34:01. > :34:06.She has got the masses of hair out. Maybe this is a less intense winter

:34:07. > :34:12.is showing on the track. Steve did mention a niggling injury. There is

:34:13. > :34:17.a long season. Eight weeks until the Commonwealth games. Bowie, what an

:34:18. > :34:23.exciting prospect. A long jumper as well. The coach told her to try

:34:24. > :34:28.track and field. Yes, and she looks great. You cannot talk about her

:34:29. > :34:34.technique. It seems to be together. She is just strong. She looks

:34:35. > :34:38.fantastic. This is the first time we are seeing her on this circuit. She

:34:39. > :34:41.seems to be relishing it. She seems to be taking it all in. She is on

:34:42. > :34:47.top of her game and enjoying herself. She is really at the start

:34:48. > :34:53.of her sprinting career. She is long jumping. She has got a fantastic

:34:54. > :35:00.career ahead of her. The technique is there as well. Absolutely. Come

:35:01. > :35:06.next year when we are at the World Championships and the pressure is

:35:07. > :35:11.on, should she continue to keep this form, how would you cope with the

:35:12. > :35:15.expectation? She is relatively unknown in the sprinting world in

:35:16. > :35:22.this domain and running so quickly. Finish like that after a poor start

:35:23. > :35:28.bodes well. -- to finish like that. She does not seem to be scared of

:35:29. > :35:32.anything. We are enjoying some fabulous athletics tonight. As we

:35:33. > :35:37.will do throughout the summer on the BBC. There may be no World

:35:38. > :35:42.Championships or Olympic Games, but we have the Commonwealth games and

:35:43. > :37:12.the Diamond League. All here on the BBC.

:37:13. > :37:20.Denise, we really are just at the start of a fabulous season. There

:37:21. > :37:25.may be no Olympics and that changes the dynamic of the year slightly for

:37:26. > :37:29.athletes. The British-based athletes, the Commonwealth Games is

:37:30. > :37:33.an exciting prospect. A home games as well. When you get the likes of

:37:34. > :37:39.Usain Bolt not yet committing his season and David Rudisha not looking

:37:40. > :37:43.full package yet, you realise how important the big names are to the

:37:44. > :37:50.sport. This place, 60,000 were in here last year. The box office stars

:37:51. > :37:56.can make a huge difference. They do. This is what people want to pay to

:37:57. > :38:00.see. This brings them out from their workplaces to get down on a night

:38:01. > :38:04.when they think the stars are there. It is dangerous because the other

:38:05. > :38:08.athletes do not get a look in. We are not add capacity here tonight.

:38:09. > :38:14.We know why. There are still some great athletics to be had. It is

:38:15. > :38:20.time for the new stars to step up and grab the opportunity is. Mo

:38:21. > :38:24.Farah has committed himself to running in the Glasgow Diamond

:38:25. > :38:33.League. So has your hand late. There are still some fantastic names --

:38:34. > :38:38.your hand lake. We would like to see Usain Bolt. This is the men's 3000

:38:39. > :38:48.metres steeplechase is. That's my steeplechase. Kemboi from Kenya has

:38:49. > :38:57.two Olympics and three world titles. It is a strong field.

:38:58. > :38:59.With 3000 metres of steeplechasing underway, an event that

:39:00. > :39:05.With 3000 metres of steeplechasing the rhythm. We have the

:39:06. > :39:10.With 3000 metres of steeplechasing in the form of Kemboi. There are a

:39:11. > :39:14.couple of athletes called Kemboi. One is a pacemaker. We will see how

:39:15. > :39:20.quickly that first 1000 metres is going to be. This is will play in

:39:21. > :39:26.the triple jump. He has got to get his act together.

:39:27. > :39:38.That is better. As he got a white flag to the white like goes up. Much

:39:39. > :39:40.better. He might have finally got things together. It has been a

:39:41. > :39:50.difficult night for the triple jumpers. Translating all of that

:39:51. > :39:54.pace on the runway will stop reaching the end. I think he knows

:39:55. > :40:01.it may be good enough to take the lead. It is indeed. 17.14. He

:40:02. > :40:07.finally gets it together and take the lead away from his compatriot,

:40:08. > :40:17.Christian Taylor, and moves Martin is into third. -- Martinez. As they

:40:18. > :40:29.start to get into the race, it is collective Kenya who is leading.

:40:30. > :40:49.We go back to the javelin. We are reaching the final stages. The fifth

:40:50. > :40:55.round. Two big throws in the second and third rounds of 66 metres, which

:40:56. > :41:01.broke things apart. A great you she is having. A great season. That will

:41:02. > :41:11.be no improvement. She will stay in second place. We will be looking for

:41:12. > :41:29.the first of the markers on the first 1000 metres. We're looking for

:41:30. > :41:33.2.38. Chasing the pacemakers. Look at the club as we approach the 1000

:41:34. > :41:39.metres mark. They were looking for 2.40. Just outside. Christian Taylor

:41:40. > :41:54.in the triple jump. Can he respond? He has been mixing things up with

:41:55. > :42:00.the 400 metres this year but he is trying to concentrate on this event

:42:01. > :42:07.for a while. There will be more to come from him. He has been a little

:42:08. > :42:24.bit of and then in both competitions. He had 1/70 metres.

:42:25. > :42:35.See you there. That's max 70 -- 70 metres.

:42:36. > :42:51.Lagat is still out in front. He is set in place. Is beginning to. As

:42:52. > :42:55.they go into the second 1000 metres, the second of the pacemakers

:42:56. > :43:42.in second, looking quite comfortable.

:43:43. > :43:58.Already getting back to form, Spotakova. Pretty consistent now.

:43:59. > :44:07.The Olympic champion. In the fifth round. She launches it. Another good

:44:08. > :44:12.throw. Right on the 65 metre line. That will be interesting to see how

:44:13. > :44:17.she develops through the rest of the season. European Championships this

:44:18. > :44:24.year will be a target for her to get herself back into winning ways and

:44:25. > :44:28.on the rostrum. She became a mother last year. Took the season out,

:44:29. > :44:42.pretty much. This was a few minutes ago. She was lying in third spot.

:44:43. > :45:14.A big win in Doha. Took advantage of a slightly indifferent night. This

:45:15. > :45:26.was just a few minutes ago. Trying to get out of that line but the

:45:27. > :45:37.condition is not great. 63.12 for Ratez. Look at the margin of

:45:38. > :46:02.advantage that is opening up in the steeplechase. Brimin Kiprop Kipruto

:46:03. > :46:09.is in third place. Kit sang -- Kipsang is pacing. This is going to

:46:10. > :46:12.be a very quick one. Brimin Kiprop Kipruto looks like he might be under

:46:13. > :46:20.pressure in third place, but I don't think so. I am not sure what has

:46:21. > :46:28.happened to as a keel can boy. -- Ezekiel Kemboi. He is not in the

:46:29. > :46:35.race. What has happened? If you saw it, I didn't. It has left the way

:46:36. > :46:43.open. It certainly has. The rest of 40 metres behind the first three,

:46:44. > :46:52.but Koech took the lead behind the pacemakers for some time. And look

:46:53. > :47:00.at the clock. Very quick indeed. Birech has seen the clock. It will

:47:01. > :47:10.be a very strong time indeed. 8.06.21. The rest are following. A

:47:11. > :47:15.close race for the rest but not for the man who won it. Not a great race

:47:16. > :47:17.to watch but it was a great performance by the young man who

:47:18. > :47:30.took it on. A very quick race in the end. You

:47:31. > :47:36.see the Kenny and urging each other on in that race and there is so much

:47:37. > :47:42.competition for places. -- Kenyans. To get into the top three for the

:47:43. > :47:50.steeplechase in Kenya is merely a World Championship! Yes, this same

:47:51. > :47:56.in all of their long distance events. A joy to behold the new

:47:57. > :48:01.names coming up every year. The next Diamond League event takes place on

:48:02. > :48:07.Wednesday in Oslo. It will be on BBC Three and it will feature Allyson

:48:08. > :48:12.Felix and the new pole vault world record-holder, among others. Always

:48:13. > :48:15.a fantastic night in Oslo and a sell-out crowd with a fantastic

:48:16. > :48:19.atmosphere. There is a rich heritage. I will not be there. It

:48:20. > :48:26.will be Jonathan Edwards and Colin Jackson because I will be in

:48:27. > :48:30.Brazil. Did I mention I was going to Brazil? Just ten times! I am still

:48:31. > :48:43.enjoying tonight because it has been a fabulous evening so far. Seeing

:48:44. > :48:47.Tory Bowery has been brilliant. -- Tori Bowie. But the next race might

:48:48. > :48:53.be the most interesting from a British perspective. Adam Gemili

:48:54. > :49:01.broke onto the world stage at the World Championships. Sub 20 in the

:49:02. > :49:04.200 and an exciting prospect. For me his 200 metres time was significant.

:49:05. > :49:09.I believe that he can below ten seconds and he will need to start

:49:10. > :49:14.displaying some of that 200 metres strength if he is going to make that

:49:15. > :49:20.transition to being in the nine plus club, you know. It would be

:49:21. > :49:23.fantastic to see him doing that. And great rivalry. You need a

:49:24. > :49:28.head-to-head in every sport. It is great that it is happening in

:49:29. > :49:31.British men's sprinting. Of course Justin Gatlin is the fastest man in

:49:32. > :49:35.the world and in the field so far this year and he will be the man to

:49:36. > :49:40.beat. But Adam Gemili through the winter studied hard at university

:49:41. > :49:43.and trained hard. We had long chat with Michael Johnson about what he

:49:44. > :49:49.should do next to make the next stage. He said he wanted to break

:49:50. > :49:54.into the American and Jamaican stronghold and Michael Johnson said

:49:55. > :49:58.would be for the media to leave him alone and actually he has managed to

:49:59. > :50:01.do that. He says it modestly. He does not want to see his face on

:50:02. > :50:07.posters. He has not done anything yet. If he wants to burst onto the

:50:08. > :50:11.scene and win the big stuff, it is the hard work and the grafting that

:50:12. > :50:16.he has got to do and not go for the quick plaudits, I guess. He is not

:50:17. > :50:24.just on his own. Yes, he is one of the brightest prospects but there is

:50:25. > :50:30.James as well, who has robbed ten seconds. He is probably our best

:50:31. > :50:36.bet. And also Richard Kilty. It is exciting, it is rich. Adam is very

:50:37. > :50:40.level-headed. He has got his head screwed on and he is very sensible

:50:41. > :50:44.and it reflects on his approach to the season and what he wants to do,

:50:45. > :50:49.which is managed his studies and his education and athletics, which can

:50:50. > :50:52.be done. He gave up his career in football and chose athletics. One

:50:53. > :50:57.other thing is that resonated when we spent the day with him was that

:50:58. > :51:01.this is the hardest sport. He said it is much harder than training for

:51:02. > :51:05.football. He can't believe how hard he have to train. It is only since

:51:06. > :51:09.the Olympics in 2012 that he has really given it a proper go and

:51:10. > :51:14.understood how much he has got to learn, which is fascinating to see.

:51:15. > :51:19.Somebody who was going for another sport in football and then made the

:51:20. > :51:24.decision to cross over. Putting in perspective the dedication, the

:51:25. > :51:28.hours that it takes. And becoming the world junior champion made a big

:51:29. > :51:33.difference to that decision. What are the risks that you have to take?

:51:34. > :51:38.It is exciting. For me that is what I miss the most, the planning.

:51:39. > :51:46.Competing is relatively easy. If you are fit and healthy, it is. It is

:51:47. > :51:51.the planning, in positions, the decisions, whether you need to

:51:52. > :51:56.adjust things, and for him the next few years will be exciting and it

:51:57. > :51:58.starts tonight. They are in two different training camps. Steve

:51:59. > :52:09.Fudge looks after the group with Adam Gemili and Rana Rider looks

:52:10. > :52:13.after the Richard Kilty group. When Richard Kilty came out at the

:52:14. > :52:17.indoors, were you surprised when it came to that big event and he was

:52:18. > :52:21.able to break through like that? This was the year for him. I just

:52:22. > :52:29.thought it was great. It is not surprising. He has worked hard for

:52:30. > :52:35.his accolade. What I was impressed by the most was his attitude round

:52:36. > :52:38.by round. Very level-headed. He did not react either way to the personal

:52:39. > :52:43.best that he was setting. It was like he was a man on a mission and

:52:44. > :52:49.that was capped by that impressive run in the final. James has

:52:50. > :52:53.struggled a bit with getting through the rounds. He went into the World

:52:54. > :52:58.Championships in great form but has not got through the rounds. He got

:52:59. > :53:02.one brilliant time last year and then could not race for the second

:53:03. > :53:06.day, unfortunately. It is about going two or three rounds, isn't

:53:07. > :53:10.it? Every athlete has their challenges and they are all

:53:11. > :53:13.different. Some would say that James needs to raise more. They would like

:53:14. > :53:18.to see him on the circuit a bit more but he has got to manage his body.

:53:19. > :53:27.He is clearly quite fragile. They have got to get out there. There is

:53:28. > :53:29.a bigger picture. It is about competing with the Americans and the

:53:30. > :53:32.Jamaicans and in order to do that, they have got to raise their game.

:53:33. > :53:34.We are talking from a British perspective and this is a quality

:53:35. > :53:39.field. There are many great men there, not use that man, Justin

:53:40. > :53:44.Gatlin. The fastest man in the world this year. Expect the others to be

:53:45. > :53:45.chasing him. I will hand you over to the Steve Cram and Stuart Storey

:53:46. > :53:56.now. Mitchell Elaine four are next to him

:53:57. > :54:14.Nesta Carter. Struggling to find his best form. -- Mitchell in lane four.

:54:15. > :54:17.Simon Magakwe from South Africa, eighth in the Diamond League but has

:54:18. > :54:23.gone under ten seconds this year. His personal best is 9.98. Kim

:54:24. > :54:32.Collins still producing great performances. Indoors this year who

:54:33. > :54:38.ran 6.49. And on the outside, the young talent from Britain, Adam

:54:39. > :54:44.Gemili. Still 20 years old. Just been finishing a couple of weeks of

:54:45. > :54:47.exams. He ran 10.08 in Bedford in Great Britain just this last

:54:48. > :54:53.weekend. Some new names, some new talent. The likes of Richard Kilty

:54:54. > :54:58.trying to make their way in the big brave world of men's 100 metres

:54:59. > :55:06.running. And of course Justin Gatlin. Can anybody hold him back?

:55:07. > :55:13.Nesta Carter and Maurice Mitchell in five and four. Justin Gatlin has

:55:14. > :55:16.been in superb form and is starting well. He has maintained well

:55:17. > :55:46.throughout his races. Justin Gatlin at 9.91! Another

:55:47. > :55:54.scintillating run from Justin Gatlin! A big performance once more.

:55:55. > :56:03.Nobody really getting close to him. No Yohan Blake, no Usain Bolt yet.

:56:04. > :56:07.But in their absence, Justin Gatlin is unsurpassable. Under ten seconds

:56:08. > :56:16.once more. It is a bit chilly right now and that is a good performance.

:56:17. > :56:21.Betty Carter got a good start. Adam Gemili was not the best out of the

:56:22. > :56:24.blocks. But Justin Gatlin wins it in the first ten metres but he then

:56:25. > :56:31.keeps getting away, to be fair. Yes, very strong at the moment. Adam

:56:32. > :56:37.Gemili comes through to take third place. Good run by him. Nesta Carter

:56:38. > :56:44.has gone to the form book in a way. Not quite at the same level who was

:56:45. > :56:48.a couple of seasons ago, like he was in 2010. Justin Gatlin is so

:56:49. > :56:58.powerful. He comes up slowly and then puts the pressure on. Adam

:56:59. > :57:01.Gemili with us. We have not confirmed the time just yet. You

:57:02. > :57:05.will hear from him on the red button. Are you happy? We will do it

:57:06. > :57:08.on the red button. button. Are you happy? We will do it

:57:09. > :57:13.on Stay there. I hope you have enjoyed the action in Rome. From

:57:14. > :57:14.both of us, the coverage will continue in Oslo on Wednesday. Good

:57:15. > :57:17.night.
