:00:48. > :00:53.Hello and a very warm sunny welcome to the banks of the River Tyne for
:00:54. > :00:57.the start of the Great North weekend where over the next two days, the
:00:58. > :01:15.biggest names in world athletics are in town.
:01:16. > :01:58.It's an afternoon loaded with Olympic medallists and finalists
:01:59. > :02:03.finishing the season off in this fantastic city, athletics jamboree:
:02:04. > :02:08.Greg Rutherford will star in a long jump competition at the other side
:02:09. > :02:16.of the Tyne. The men's mile on the road takes place at 2. 35. Charlie
:02:17. > :02:22.grace, Tom Lancashire and Charlie Buochard feature in that.
:02:23. > :02:33.Laura Muir has broken the British record, that is at 3, that race.
:02:34. > :02:39.Jodie Williams goes in the 120 metres.
:02:40. > :02:45.Tiffany Porter, a finalist from Rio is in the hurdles at 3. 45. An
:02:46. > :02:53.interesting distance this, 800 specialist Lynsey Sharp takes on
:02:54. > :02:57.Onuora. David Rushida in the 500 metres, never raced on the road
:02:58. > :03:02.before, never raced in anything other than shakes and it's the
:03:03. > :03:06.junior run with the young UNs at 4. 10!
:03:07. > :03:11.It's the final event of the season for so many athletes. There is a
:03:12. > :03:13.feeling of demob in the hotel this morning. They can't wait to draw
:03:14. > :03:18.their seasons to a close and they'll want to do it on a high. Denise
:03:19. > :03:22.Lewis and Colin Jackson are alongside me. As athletes, they know
:03:23. > :03:26.what it's all about to get to the final event of the season. Must be a
:03:27. > :03:31.wonderful feel, Denise? It is. It's great relief and, what a place to do
:03:32. > :03:36.it! Such great energy and atmosphere in a place like this. There'll be
:03:37. > :03:40.some tired legs but mentally, that feeling of getting to the end of the
:03:41. > :03:43.season, you know, relatively unscathed, a lot of the athletes
:03:44. > :03:47.have had brilliant seasons and they just want to say thank you for the
:03:48. > :03:51.incredible support they've had and the atmosphere is always great here.
:03:52. > :03:55.It helps that the sun is out here, the athletes have been presented to
:03:56. > :03:59.the crowd, that is happening now, which is great to see. Last year we
:04:00. > :04:02.were under torrential rain, the scripts were blowing away, the
:04:03. > :04:06.weather was terrible, what a difference it makes. The crowds
:04:07. > :04:09.still came out last year. They are really knowledgeable in these parts
:04:10. > :04:12.and love their athletics. It's seven years this has been going on where
:04:13. > :04:18.people get up so close to the stars of the sport? It has history now and
:04:19. > :04:23.this event is special and unique. The only other place it happens is
:04:24. > :04:26.Manchester, so to come here and experience the athletes at close
:04:27. > :04:31.quarters, they love that. The athletes are relaxed here. Take them
:04:32. > :04:34.out of what they are used to, here they can enjoy themselves and really
:04:35. > :04:37.get close to the crowd and try something different. There is a
:04:38. > :04:43.couple of new events that we are looking forward to as well. Lynsey
:04:44. > :04:49.Sharp is behind us now and David Rushida is going to be going in one
:04:50. > :04:55.of those events. We'll find out more about that later. A hop, skip and
:04:56. > :04:59.jump over the Tyne, is where you will find the sand pit for the men's
:05:00. > :05:08.long jump. You will also find there a man who is about to throw his
:05:09. > :05:09.spikes in the air and hop on a pair of ballroom shoes, getting
:05:10. > :05:18.Rutherford is alongside you there, Phil Jones, keepingp with him with
:05:19. > :05:22.the cha-cha-cha? If only I could! Gabby, Colin and Denise, you have
:05:23. > :05:25.all done Strictly Come Dancing and this man is embarking on that
:05:26. > :05:29.journey. There is a matter of a long jump to take care of today though,
:05:30. > :05:38.so have you remembered how to do it? Just about. Couple of jumps to make
:05:39. > :05:42.sure on the runway last night! I completely forgot everything and
:05:43. > :05:46.changed to a jive step last time, but here we are, excited and the
:05:47. > :05:49.crowd is fantastic. Your dance partner is here watching you, the
:05:50. > :05:54.Strictly crew are here. How does it change your life to be involved in a
:05:55. > :05:57.show like that, a great show on TV? Very full-on. That's one thing we
:05:58. > :06:02.find, there's so much training and learning and everything else. I come
:06:03. > :06:06.hereth here and I haven't done it in four weeks be I'm at home, I'm used
:06:07. > :06:09.to doing this. Put me on a dance floor and trying to learn steps is
:06:10. > :06:14.different. The training is intense so I'm staying fit from that as
:06:15. > :06:17.well. Back to the day job today ultimately and seeing if I can have
:06:18. > :06:21.a good competition. Just round it off with a win would be nice, tick
:06:22. > :06:25.that box before you put on the dancing shoes. Absolutely. That's
:06:26. > :06:31.the thing for me, street athletics is a wonderful idea. Equally, I want
:06:32. > :06:34.to finish my season on a high. I clutched a partially torn muscle in
:06:35. > :06:38.my groin after the Olympic final, now I'm back wanting to rectify that
:06:39. > :06:42.and turn it into a first from the third last time. Enjoy today and
:06:43. > :06:48.also the experience on Strictly. Thank you very much, need it!
:06:49. > :06:55.He'll pop over for a chat at the end of the show and we can give him a
:06:56. > :07:02.few tips. It's not quite over yet. We have great success going on for
:07:03. > :07:07.Team GB in the paras. A few golds last night and in Brussels a lot of
:07:08. > :07:15.the athletes have hot-footed it over from Brussels for this meet. There
:07:16. > :07:19.was a new PB in the 200 metres. We've asked all our pundits and
:07:20. > :07:21.experts to rack their brains as to what they think are the most
:07:22. > :07:24.significant three moments of the season. There was a bit of fighting
:07:25. > :07:29.over who got which moments but Colin you are first, let's have a look at
:07:30. > :07:35.yours. Look, it's a new world record! One
:07:36. > :07:41.of the oldest marks in the book has gone and it's gone to Keni Harrison.
:07:42. > :07:50.Coming through now. He has speed. The gold medal that belongs to Omar
:07:51. > :08:00.McLeod! Thompson in front. She wants this. Thompson's gold! What a run
:08:01. > :08:06.from Elaine Thompson. Hurdles featuring a lot. Just a
:08:07. > :08:09.little bit! For obvious reasons. Keni, what she did in London was
:08:10. > :08:16.fantastic, taking a world record is phenomenal. A lot of people
:08:17. > :08:22.surprised thatthat are sneaked in, but he was a trail-blazer. Also he
:08:23. > :08:28.broke the ten-second mark for the 100 metres flat, no other sprinter's
:08:29. > :08:32.done that. The overall winner for me is Elaine Thompson. Incredible
:08:33. > :08:37.performance what she did. To do the double in the Olympic Games was
:08:38. > :08:42.phenomenal. She learnt from last time in Beijing where he got the
:08:43. > :08:47.silver, she refocussed heshes, got herself ready for a double and look
:08:48. > :08:51.at the margin of victory. We are talking about her beating very
:08:52. > :08:55.classy runners there, going around the 10. 7 mark again. When you have
:08:56. > :09:00.never done it before, won a major clubships, it's a huge amount of
:09:01. > :09:03.pressure, especially when your training partner is the defending
:09:04. > :09:09.champion. You can see what it means to her to take that. The 100 metres
:09:10. > :09:14.title, then the 200. Taking that mantle of sprinting greatness in
:09:15. > :09:17.Jamaica from the shells of Fraser-Price, Campbell-Brown before
:09:18. > :09:21.her, if she was in another era and there was no such thing as Usain
:09:22. > :09:25.Bolt, she would be an even bigger global star? Yes, but she's young
:09:26. > :09:33.enough to make a real impact and there is no reason why she cannot.
:09:34. > :09:40.She could get close to Flo-Jo's record. Big call. It is. She is
:09:41. > :09:45.impressive though. I didn't think she'd do that magical double but her
:09:46. > :09:49.technique is incredible. Let's watch how she performs. We'll see yours
:09:50. > :09:57.later Denise and our commentators as well. Hello to you, good afternoon
:09:58. > :10:00.to Paula Radcliffe, Steve Cram and Andrew Cotter.
:10:01. > :10:04.Good afternoon. A wonderful setting here. You can see the spectators
:10:05. > :10:09.sitting on the grassy banks beside the track. The banks of the Tyne.
:10:10. > :10:15.This is the line-up for the women's 100 metres. Four going in this
:10:16. > :10:26.track. It's wonderful, as the spectators gather on the athletes.
:10:27. > :10:29.It's Horn, Philip, Williams and Gabby was mentioning the athlete who
:10:30. > :10:34.is had trouble getting here from Brussels. Horn from South Africa was
:10:35. > :10:39.one of those, instead of a couple of flights to get to Brussels to
:10:40. > :10:45.Amsterdam and up to Newcastle, it was a train, then another up from
:10:46. > :10:46.London and Horn was warming up in the passageways of the train. Must
:10:47. > :11:09.have been a fearsome sight. Philip has a bronze to show from Rio
:11:10. > :11:16.in the 4 x 100. Pierre, the World Indoor Champion over 60 metres, 11.
:11:17. > :11:23.07 this season. She was as quick as 10. 85 back in 2013. There's Jodie
:11:24. > :11:28.Williams who'll run in the 150 metres later on, that's been brought
:11:29. > :11:30.forward to 7. 17. Williams goes here. She should fancy her chances
:11:31. > :11:47.more in the 150. Looking down from on high, on the
:11:48. > :11:50.Gateshead side of the Tyne, the first of the senior track events in
:11:51. > :12:02.the Great North CityGames. Ordinarily, you might fancy Horn to
:12:03. > :12:07.challenge here, but it hasn't been the ideal build-up for her. Horn,
:12:08. > :12:16.Philip, Pierre and Williams in the women's 100 metres.
:12:17. > :12:25.Cleanly away. Good start from Philip and Pierre. Pierre now moving away
:12:26. > :12:31.from the rest and Pierre and Horn coming back now. Horn powers to the
:12:32. > :12:36.line. Pierre alongside her, but what a run from Horn. Everyone should
:12:37. > :12:41.warm up on trains! Horn takes the victory. Didn't she finish well! Has
:12:42. > :12:48.that power and strength in the latter stages of the race. And
:12:49. > :12:55.Barbara Pierre was out so quickly, but then Horn just came roaring
:12:56. > :13:00.through to take the victory. 11. 20, a decent time as well from a
:13:01. > :13:05.makeshift track. Look at how she comes back, look at how far she has
:13:06. > :13:11.to come back. A good couple of paces behind Barbara Pierre. But Pierre
:13:12. > :13:21.was fading and Horn was storming through. In the end, a bit of
:13:22. > :13:29.distance between her and the rest. She doesn't quite have the same
:13:30. > :13:36.start that Pierre or Philip has, but once she gets going, able to take
:13:37. > :13:42.the win. Well done, first winner of the afternoon, a time of 11. 20.
:13:43. > :13:49.Pierre was out so quickly but she was in second place.
:13:50. > :13:55.Phil Jones is with the winner. Well done, tremendous performance.
:13:56. > :14:00.What is it like first of all Coombe peeing here with a crowd so close to
:14:01. > :14:04.you? Yes, it's really nice, people are near the track, making the race
:14:05. > :14:10.much easier for me as well. Is this the end of the season for you? Yes,
:14:11. > :14:14.definitely. Tell me what it's like, in an Olympic year, the pressure you
:14:15. > :14:18.feel just to make it to Rio? Yes, it's a lot of pressure, the
:14:19. > :14:22.Paralympics is different to other years, so it's increased pressure,
:14:23. > :14:26.but I was glad to make it there. You can enjoy this experience today?
:14:27. > :14:33.Definitely, I won't forget it. Congratulations on the win. Well
:14:34. > :14:37.done. Thank you so much. A good win for Carina Horn in the track event
:14:38. > :14:43.in the afternoon. A short while ago, it was the women's pole vault. Sandy
:14:44. > :14:47.Morris last night went five metres in Brussels. Only the second woman
:14:48. > :14:53.to do that. Wasn't expecting anything like that here, but this
:14:54. > :15:07.was the first attempt at four metres for Chloe who went clear.
:15:08. > :15:18.Henry went over at four meters. Anicka Newell, the Canadian, she has
:15:19. > :15:26.done 4.15 this season. Opening up at four meters. Not ideal conditions,
:15:27. > :15:40.bit of a breeze. She was clear at four metres. Initially the only two
:15:41. > :15:48.clear at four meters. Then Germany Regine Kramer when Claire at four
:15:49. > :15:56.meters, this was her second attempt at 4.15. She went Claire, by a
:15:57. > :16:02.distance. The only woman to go clear, with Bradshaw not entering
:16:03. > :16:15.the competition. Holly Bradshaw stepping in at 4.40 five. All the
:16:16. > :16:24.pressure on her final vault. -- 4.45. Huge groan from the crowd. A
:16:25. > :16:29.sheepish smile from Holly Bradshaw. Finishing fourth in the Olympics.
:16:30. > :16:41.Could not do it here. Holly Bradshaw, no mark. The wind would go
:16:42. > :16:50.through Regine Kramer. -- the win would go. Rather sheepish figure,
:16:51. > :17:02.Holly Bradshaw, capable of 4.70 this season. Nothing here. Regine Kramer
:17:03. > :17:09.taking the win with 4.1 five. -- 4.15.
:17:10. > :17:19.On the other side of the river, the Newcastle side. This is the long
:17:20. > :17:27.jump. Finnish sixth in the Olympic Games. Highest finish by Uruguayan
:17:28. > :17:42.athlete. Great crowd gathering around the pitch. Emiliano Lasa.
:17:43. > :17:47.Just over 7.5 metres. Distances always down in these competitions,
:17:48. > :17:48.as they would be only slightly more controlled environment, familiar
:17:49. > :17:55.surroundings. Emiliano Lasa, coming up at 7.60
:17:56. > :18:21.three. We have seen it, you can see it now.
:18:22. > :18:29.Greg Rutherford, we shall see later. A quick word on Carina Horn, I was
:18:30. > :18:33.thinking about the Olympic success, there seems like there is confidence
:18:34. > :18:40.growing in South African sprinting. South African athletics. Being led
:18:41. > :18:44.by those guys. There are pockets, just like Australia, speaking to
:18:45. > :18:48.some of the Australians coming over. Pockets of groups trying to get
:18:49. > :18:54.their training methods together. It takes good performances, like we saw
:18:55. > :19:00.from that athlete, pushing forward, encouraging other athletes to say,
:19:01. > :19:05.look, we can do this. We are going to head out for the longer distance
:19:06. > :19:11.of the men's mile. Steve Cram will call this one.
:19:12. > :19:19.On the Newcastle side, the guys are ready out there. Intriguing field.
:19:20. > :19:30.Some people out there who will look back on their experiences with
:19:31. > :19:36.pride. Particularly Andrew Butchart. They were not quite in the medals.
:19:37. > :19:39.Mo Farah kicking over the last few hundred metres. We will be looking
:19:40. > :19:47.forward to seeing him tomorrow. Bernard Lagat, 41 years of age,
:19:48. > :19:53.moving into the top six. Andrew Butchart finishing so quickly. For a
:19:54. > :19:58.little while, there were two disqualifications, and Bernard Lagat
:19:59. > :20:04.was the bronze medallist. The other two reinstated. Andrew Butchart,
:20:05. > :20:16.sixth in the Olympic Games. Dropping down a distance. Not quite as quick
:20:17. > :20:39.as Mo Farah, well he was quicker at his best.
:20:40. > :20:46.Unlike the season they will have enjoyed on the track, so many times
:20:47. > :20:49.they have pacemakers, this makes the road miles so interesting, you
:20:50. > :20:55.cannot predict what is going to happen. I was chatting to Bernard
:20:56. > :21:03.Lagat this morning, rumours he has run his last track race. I said,
:21:04. > :21:08.come on, you can come to London next year, and he laughed, and walked
:21:09. > :21:13.away. He is hedging his bets, why should he not? Still able to compete
:21:14. > :21:18.at the highest level, for as long as he feels capable. He is not
:21:19. > :21:27.committing to next year. He will see how he comes through the winter, how
:21:28. > :21:32.he feels next year. Relishing the chance to try different things.
:21:33. > :21:36.Don't think he has run to many road miles in his time. The other is
:21:37. > :21:44.happy to sit in and let the older guy dictate. He used to have a
:21:45. > :21:48.fearsome chick, no surprise he thinks at his age, he is not going
:21:49. > :21:57.to wait around. There are others who can finish quickly. They go through
:21:58. > :22:04.the first 400. Not that quick, needing, but not very fast. 65
:22:05. > :22:08.seconds through the first 400. It is a different mentality racing on the
:22:09. > :22:13.road. It is about committing, running the distance, rather than
:22:14. > :22:21.trying to gauge the pace. Big danger on the inside, Martin Lewandowski.
:22:22. > :22:31.If he goes slowly, they are handing the race to him and Michael Rimmer.
:22:32. > :22:37.A few of the luxury yachts, one of them might be Brendan's. Parked on
:22:38. > :22:41.the quayside. We have the junior race this morning, so many people
:22:42. > :22:49.going down to watch. Going under the Tyne Bridge. Little left-hander,
:22:50. > :22:53.onto the swing bridge. This is where they will start to think about
:22:54. > :22:59.getting into position. Once they cross the river, onto the Gateshead
:23:00. > :23:03.side, they will drop down. Then the big sprint starting. Still Bernard
:23:04. > :23:15.Lagat, leading. Jake Wightman, Tom Lancashire. Lewandowski in the
:23:16. > :23:18.sunglasses. Everybody is still there. Adam Clarke, done so much
:23:19. > :23:25.training with Mo Farah, in preparation for Rio. Injuring this.
:23:26. > :23:31.Good to see him get a personal best. Spent a lot of his summer
:23:32. > :23:37.sacrificing helping the likes of Mo Farah. In their mixing, that is
:23:38. > :23:43.great. A little bit unfair with the splits, 63 for the first 400, 61 for
:23:44. > :23:49.the second. Up the hill, then dropping down, kicking in. They gave
:23:50. > :23:53.with the incline. Tom Lancashire pushing on. They spread along the
:23:54. > :24:01.road. Lewandowski looking comfortable. Michael Rimmer a little
:24:02. > :24:06.further back. Andrew Butchart struggling 4-speed. Bernard Lagat
:24:07. > :24:12.dropping back through the field. It is about judging your effort now.
:24:13. > :24:16.Less than 400 metres. They will see the finishing track, about 150
:24:17. > :24:24.metres long. That will give them a bit of a site. A gap appearing. From
:24:25. > :24:28.the top six. Some elbows coming out. The cake really on. Lewandowski
:24:29. > :24:34.watching Jake Wightman move. Gregson is still there. Tom Lancashire is
:24:35. > :24:40.still there. Onto the track they come. They all have chances. Jake
:24:41. > :24:45.Wightman kicking away. Lewandowski coming. Ryan Gregson with Jake
:24:46. > :24:52.Wightman. Whiteman trying to hang on. Looking strong. Jake Wightman
:24:53. > :25:05.going to take the win. Lewandowski second for the second year in a row.
:25:06. > :25:09.Adam Clarke in this. -- in fifth. Small consolation for Jake Wightman,
:25:10. > :25:13.did not go to Rio, missing the qualification time. Massive
:25:14. > :25:19.disappointment. So many attempts to try and do that. Nice win to date.
:25:20. > :25:25.Good way to round off the season, it has been frustrating. Barely missing
:25:26. > :25:30.out on the qualifying time for Rio. He went to New York, finishing 16th
:25:31. > :25:35.in the road mile there. To turn it around, coming back, running so
:25:36. > :25:40.well, finishing so strongly. Taking the scout of Lewandowski. That will
:25:41. > :25:44.send him into winter training feeling good, looking forward to
:25:45. > :25:58.making the team next year for London, 2017. He has a good kick,
:25:59. > :26:00.Jake. For the effort he put into making the Olympic team, always
:26:01. > :26:04.difficult to keep your season going when you don't. He has finished
:26:05. > :26:14.well, that will give him pleasure and confidence heading into the end
:26:15. > :26:17.of season break. He's with Phil. Jake, Steve Cram talking about how
:26:18. > :26:23.difficult it is to keep it going after you have not made the Olympic
:26:24. > :26:28.team. He have shown you have, doing it in style. It has been a hard
:26:29. > :26:35.month, not many targets to aim for since the Europeans. With the road
:26:36. > :26:40.season, wanted to keep it going, fun part of the season. Have not lost to
:26:41. > :26:45.match fitness, to come and do that. A high-class field. What is it like,
:26:46. > :26:50.up against names like Lewandowski, Bernard Lagat, trying to mix it up
:26:51. > :26:55.with them. Always an honour. Someone like Bernard Lagat, to get a scout
:26:56. > :27:00.like that, I will take it. Whether it is on the road, still a scout.
:27:01. > :27:05.What is the difference between being on the track on the road, for you?
:27:06. > :27:10.To be honest, you can switch off round the track, we left hand bends.
:27:11. > :27:16.This one, weaving, up and down, keeping your wits about you. Paying
:27:17. > :27:24.more attention. You have won in style, congratulations, Jake. Thank
:27:25. > :27:29.you. Well done, indeed. Jake winning with about 55 seconds in his last
:27:30. > :27:49.100. -- last 400. This was Greg Rutherford's opening
:27:50. > :27:52.attempt in the long jump. Getting the support from the crowd, there
:27:53. > :28:01.were plenty there for him. On the far side of the river. Where the
:28:02. > :28:18.long jump is taking place. Greg Rutherford. Looking to be good on
:28:19. > :28:24.the board. Gets the white flag. The Uruguayan Emiliano Lasa, leading at
:28:25. > :28:28.the moment. That looks close to his distance. Did not look to be a
:28:29. > :28:37.full-length run-up. I think he has seen the distance.
:28:38. > :29:05.7.60 seven. Half Daniel Gardiner, Sheffield
:29:06. > :29:16.athlete. He has gone close to eight metres this season. 7.60 in his
:29:17. > :29:28.opening round. Fractionally down on that. The British champion, taking
:29:29. > :29:35.that title this year. I don't think that will improve on his 7.60.
:29:36. > :29:52.Getting some safety pins patched up. That is 7.37. No improvement.
:29:53. > :30:18.Denise, it's your turn, we have dipped into your year. Here is your
:30:19. > :30:23.moments of the Olympics. Catarina Johnson-Thompson, a new
:30:24. > :30:34.British record! Going further clear, Olympic gold. And the fastest 400
:30:35. > :30:47.metres of all-time for Wayde. Sophie hitch inhas saved her best for last
:30:48. > :30:52.-- Sophie Hitchin. Not surprised to see Sophie Hikchin
:30:53. > :30:57.there. She shared her joy with us in the studio. Talk us through that,
:30:58. > :31:02.how did you nick that off the team? I don't know! I was expecting Colin
:31:03. > :31:08.to have that, if I'm honest. To witness a world record live is a
:31:09. > :31:14.real treat and a pleasure. What a stunning race. Leading from gun to
:31:15. > :31:17.tape and the manner in which he set that world record was just
:31:18. > :31:21.absolutely stunning. We had Michael Johnson between us in the studio
:31:22. > :31:26.that night so it was really so dramatic. It was, wasn't it. Long
:31:27. > :31:33.live the King, he's dead and he was there watching the whole race,
:31:34. > :31:37.incredible. He took it well. Also for me, Catarina Johnson-Thompson,
:31:38. > :31:43.that high jump as a stand-alone performance was absolutely
:31:44. > :31:53.incredible. To jump 198 in a help tat Ron, the second event, she was
:31:54. > :31:58.in the moment and that was a two metre clearance. She would have won
:31:59. > :32:01.Olympic gold in the Olympic high jump. I know it's a different
:32:02. > :32:07.competition on a different day but puts into context the brilliance of
:32:08. > :32:10.that. The billians of the young lady and I'm hoping that performance will
:32:11. > :32:15.go on to make her have a great winter and come out stronger.
:32:16. > :32:19.Sophie's performance too is at the Vanguard of something that could be
:32:20. > :32:25.special. Athletes bubbling under the medals and she was one of them in
:32:26. > :32:30.Beijing and to see that progresscome into fruition is special. We hardly
:32:31. > :32:35.talk about women's throwing. For Sophie to come through in the way
:32:36. > :32:40.she did, the last throw for her to secure a bronze medal and set a
:32:41. > :32:44.national record in the process, I just think, mentally, physically,
:32:45. > :32:50.she's got it all. Stunning for the event. I just hope this will be a
:32:51. > :32:55.resurgence of long throwing. Vanguard setting the precedence
:32:56. > :32:59.there which is just stunning. Let's get back out here on the streets of
:33:00. > :33:02.Newcastle, actually it's the track behind me, because it's going to be
:33:03. > :33:07.the 100 metres coming up for men soon. Let's catch up with the field
:33:08. > :33:10.before that with Andrew Cotter. Field news to come in a moment, but
:33:11. > :33:44.ready to go on the track. Because of the travel problems
:33:45. > :33:48.Andrew mentioned earlier, the 100 metres has been moved forward.
:33:49. > :34:01.Another opportunity for Dasaolu to put a good performance in right at
:34:02. > :34:06.the end of the season. Gittens won a bronze. Just outside ten seconds
:34:07. > :34:14.this year. Dasaolu only ran a season's best in Zagreb last week,
:34:15. > :34:22.10. 10, it's been Joel Fearon who's been winning. Dasaolu could well be
:34:23. > :34:27.part of the GB bobsleigh team in the Winter Olympics in 2018. Ujah, very
:34:28. > :34:32.unlucky not to make the final in Rio. He'll be hoping for a good end
:34:33. > :34:37.to his season. No reason why they can't run quick here.
:34:38. > :34:45.Horn posted a swift 11. 20 and she was one of the ones who arrived so
:34:46. > :34:50.late. Jeremy Doddson, born in New York, runs for Samoa. Cleared by the
:34:51. > :34:54.IAAF to compete for them a couple of years ago.
:34:55. > :35:02.Ran in the heats of the 200 metres in Rio.
:35:03. > :35:08.It should be mentioned that we have the World Championships in London
:35:09. > :35:14.next summer, the qualification is already open for that. So all of the
:35:15. > :35:20.performances in the second half of this 2016 season may have some sort
:35:21. > :35:24.of bearing. James said he can't wait for this race to finish and party
:35:25. > :35:27.time to start, a lot of athletes are in that position, but they'll want
:35:28. > :35:33.to finish on a high, that's for sure. Gittens, Dasaolu, Ujah and
:35:34. > :35:44.Doddson. -- Dodson.
:35:45. > :35:49.CJ gets away. Dasaolu is also away well. Half a metre. It's going to be
:35:50. > :35:54.very, very close this on the line. Who is going to get it? I don't
:35:55. > :35:58.know! That was close! I'm not going to stick my neck out. Those two were
:35:59. > :36:04.both trying to stick their chests out and everything else. That was
:36:05. > :36:09.so, so close. Normally you can kind of tell and they're both looking.
:36:10. > :36:14.That was so close all of the way down. Not much to choose. At one
:36:15. > :36:20.point I thought CJ may have had a bit of an advantage, but Dasaolu
:36:21. > :36:24.then at this point it looks as though CJ is ahead before Dasaolu
:36:25. > :36:29.comes back at him. This is going to be really interesting. Let's see if
:36:30. > :36:34.we can get a clue here. No. That is so, so close.
:36:35. > :36:41.Well, it's coming up on my computer, you are seeing what I'm seeing,
:36:42. > :36:45.they're giving it - I'm going to wait because I've only got one name
:36:46. > :36:51.on there - so I'm going to wait and see what it says. 100th of a
:36:52. > :36:54.difference, it's gone to Dasaolu. Good start from the two of them.
:36:55. > :36:58.Really good, competitive race. That's what you want to see. We are
:36:59. > :37:05.still talking about the relay. Dasaolu lost out in Rio. So he gets
:37:06. > :37:10.the win here by the smallest of margins, just 100th of a second.
:37:11. > :37:15.I couldn't quite separate them. I'm not sure if they knew the
:37:16. > :37:23.difference, but let's see what they thought of it. They are both with
:37:24. > :37:29.Phil. The two guys alongside me.
:37:30. > :37:33.Team-mates on the relay today looked like friendly rivals, you edged it
:37:34. > :37:37.James. The crowd is amazing, we put on a show for them, got a fair
:37:38. > :37:42.start, neck and neck all the way and it was my lucky day. I managed to
:37:43. > :37:47.dip on the line. It was a fun race though. A great way to end the
:37:48. > :37:50.season. I saw you yesterday, you were talking about holidays coming
:37:51. > :37:53.up. How hard a season has it been with being Olympic year and how much
:37:54. > :37:59.have you looked forward to the break? The season started a while
:38:00. > :38:04.back, so to carry on going after the Olympic Games is hard but you have
:38:05. > :38:08.to carry on on home soil. What have you learnt from this year and the
:38:09. > :38:11.hole experience? I've learnt a lot about myself, narrowly missing out
:38:12. > :38:16.on the final, I know it's there and hopefully next year I can make the
:38:17. > :38:20.final. Big year next year, the World Championships in London, you want to
:38:21. > :38:24.be a part of that? Of course, I was fortunate to compete in 2012 so for
:38:25. > :38:26.me, being able to also compete in the World Championships will be
:38:27. > :38:30.amazing, it will give you a bit more drive and energy kind of going into
:38:31. > :38:34.winter to try and make the team again. Sprinting is tough in
:38:35. > :38:38.Britain. All the best with the winter, we wish you both well going
:38:39. > :38:41.forward, James and CJ, everyone. APPLAUSE.
:38:42. > :38:45.Thank you. Thank you, guys. Thank you. Winter feels a long, long time
:38:46. > :38:49.away with this glorious weather we are experiencing today on the banks
:38:50. > :38:53.of the Tyne but it has been a long season, an incredible season for
:38:54. > :38:57.many, and we have been asking our bun dis and experts to dip into the
:38:58. > :39:06.archives and tell us their top three moments. It's Paula Radcliffe's turn
:39:07. > :39:17.this time. Let's take a look. 355. 24, Laura Muir's smashed the
:39:18. > :39:25.British record. Liz McColgan's done herself proud. Fantastic
:39:26. > :39:31.performance, well done Jess Andrews. No other representatives of Rusaf,
:39:32. > :39:37.ie officials, support personnel, should take part in international
:39:38. > :39:44.competition or in the affairs of the IAAF. Paula is up in our commentary
:39:45. > :39:48.box. Paula, obviously the last of your choices there a little bit of a
:39:49. > :39:55.sobering moment, but an important moment for you that the IAAF
:39:56. > :39:57.ultimately stuck its neck out and committed itself to banning Russia
:39:58. > :40:01.as a whole country from the Olympic Games, leading to all kinds of
:40:02. > :40:05.debate and conversation? Yes. I think it was a really, really
:40:06. > :40:12.important step. I think the IAAF had to show that well, as the President
:40:13. > :40:15.said himself, nobody wanted to see any innocent athlete suffer, but
:40:16. > :40:19.they ultimately did. They had to look at the integrity and future of
:40:20. > :40:22.the sport. In contrast to the IOC who possibly chose to protect the
:40:23. > :40:26.brand and go down the political route, rather than standing up and
:40:27. > :40:34.protecting the clean athletes, the IAAF did that, and they are moving
:40:35. > :40:40.forward and it was important going further forward, it will break new
:40:41. > :40:44.ground for clean sport. You went for the whole of British middle distance
:40:45. > :40:49.running? It was the fact that for the first time in a long time we had
:40:50. > :40:52.full teams in the women's 5,000 and 10,000 metres, men's marathon,
:40:53. > :40:56.almost full on the women's marathon, 1500 metres both and the 3,000
:40:57. > :41:02.metres steeplechase as well. It was the biggest team in a long time. A
:41:03. > :41:04.lot of that is showing the new talent coming through, the exciting
:41:05. > :41:08.talent and the depth of it. Thank you very much, Paula.
:41:09. > :41:13.One of the athletes who had a fantastic season was Laura Muir who
:41:14. > :41:15.broke her British record, her own record, then had broken it from
:41:16. > :41:22.Kelly Holmes before the Olympic Games. But in spite of being a world
:41:23. > :41:29.leader before, she didn't make it on to the rast rum in Rio. -- rostrum.
:41:30. > :41:34.I wonder what her thoughts about Rio were, Phil Jones caught up with her
:41:35. > :41:37.yesterday. What a season it's been. Congratulations on the latest
:41:38. > :41:40.British record which was a staggering achievement. Thank you.
:41:41. > :41:48.In a year of many. Can you quite believe how far you've come this
:41:49. > :41:52.year Not really, no. I knew from breaking four minutes last year that
:41:53. > :41:57.I would be there or thereabouts this year to run 355 - that's fast! So
:41:58. > :42:01.no, I was over the moon, so, so shocked when I did that. It was
:42:02. > :42:05.straight off the plane for me as well, so it was perfect to go out
:42:06. > :42:09.there and show what I could do again. To finish off the season in
:42:10. > :42:12.style was great. The only time I've seen you upset was after the Olympic
:42:13. > :42:16.final when you were understandably emotional. Have you had chance to
:42:17. > :42:20.think about the overall picture of the year now? Yes. I think I'm very,
:42:21. > :42:26.very proud of how I've done this year. I just went for it. That's all
:42:27. > :42:31.I can really say. I could have been a bit more reserved and come through
:42:32. > :42:36.for a bronze or maybe a silver, but I knew gold would have been gone so
:42:37. > :42:41.I thought, we are going for it and it didn't work. But I ran the race
:42:42. > :42:43.how I wanted to and wouldn't change it if I was given another
:42:44. > :42:48.opportunity. I just went for it and it didn't happen on the day, but
:42:49. > :42:55.hopefully I may be able to come close. You are one of the elite
:42:56. > :42:59.athletes in the world, something you two years ago were aspiring to be,
:43:00. > :43:03.now you are that, I just wonder what it's like for you? It's really
:43:04. > :43:08.strange because I don't really see it like that, I just sort of, when I
:43:09. > :43:12.line up to race the girls, we are all the same, I just recognise
:43:13. > :43:16.myself as being one of them but you don't realise that you are the best
:43:17. > :43:23.so I see it as a normal race, as it were. It's really, really strange. I
:43:24. > :43:27.just love what I do and I'm so fortunate that I'm aware of that in
:43:28. > :43:32.my running and I keep doing it because I enjoy it.
:43:33. > :43:37.An incredible season for Laura Muir, but Steve Cram's in the commentary
:43:38. > :43:42.box alongside Paula. She said she has no regrets in how she attacked
:43:43. > :43:47.that race he Rio, but the history books will tell us she broke
:43:48. > :43:51.records, the season when you are a world leader to push yourself. Do
:43:52. > :43:56.you think perhaps in time she'll look back at that race and learn
:43:57. > :44:01.from it and try next time to perhaps approach a final like that in a
:44:02. > :44:08.different way? Yes, two or three things in that, Gabby. I sat on the
:44:09. > :44:12.plane next to Laura flying out to the Zurich Diamond League and she
:44:13. > :44:15.shouldn't have any regrets, she gave everything out on the track and sort
:44:16. > :44:19.of knew what was going to happen and chose a way to attack that and, you
:44:20. > :44:25.are right, the important thing is to learn from that. The world leading
:44:26. > :44:29.time is a bit of a red herring. Being the fastest runner going into
:44:30. > :44:33.the employs at 1500 doesn't always mean a lot but it gave her the
:44:34. > :44:36.confidence to go for a gold. There are different ways of doing that.
:44:37. > :44:40.She chose one way, nothing wrong with that. It didn't work out. She
:44:41. > :44:46.will learn from it. And in future, she'll have more options. That's the
:44:47. > :44:48.key for her. She's a bright, intelligence, hugely talented
:44:49. > :44:53.athlete, and I think she will learn from it and hopefully in London next
:44:54. > :44:56.year. We talked a lot, Paula, at the Olympic Games, about middle distance
:44:57. > :45:00.running where a lot of the athletes were racing with pace makers and
:45:01. > :45:06.when it comes to a major and they don't have the pacemaker, it's learn
:45:07. > :45:10.howing to navigate a race and that comes with experience? It does. The
:45:11. > :45:14.1500 metres is the hardest to learn and to bring all that together.
:45:15. > :45:18.Laura is a complete 1500 metre runner and that race became a 700
:45:19. > :45:22.metre race and that was the danger and the difficulty. She needed
:45:23. > :45:27.somebody to get the pace moving at some sort of decent pace to 800
:45:28. > :45:33.metres then she could push on hard from there. Running a 57-second 400
:45:34. > :45:36.metres, she did that from 700 metres, to 300 metres to go, she
:45:37. > :45:40.wasn't strong enough, mature enough to be able to handle that and then
:45:41. > :45:46.still close well. So that was what was so difficult, when she ran her
:45:47. > :45:52.355, she ran it even paced and was still able to run hard the last 800
:45:53. > :46:06.metres but offer a much quicker 700 metres which was the difference.
:46:07. > :46:13.Steve Cram will talk you through the runners and riders.
:46:14. > :46:22.Certainly the runners, but I know what you mean. Zoe Buckman having a
:46:23. > :46:33.very good year for Australia. Plenty of English interest. Stephanie
:46:34. > :46:40.Twell. A Eilish McColgan, hotfooting it from Brussels. Running a personal
:46:41. > :46:53.best in the 5000 metres. She may be a little bit late query. -- leg
:46:54. > :46:56.weary. We have been through many of the most contenders. Rosie Clarke,
:46:57. > :47:02.moving up to the steeplechase this year. Laura Muir right in the
:47:03. > :47:09.middle. The one everyone will be watching out for. A busy time since
:47:10. > :47:15.Rio. Winning the diamond league. In Zurich. The performance in Paris.
:47:16. > :47:23.Jumping on the plane, going to New York, running the fifth Ave mile,
:47:24. > :47:27.just pipped to the post by Jenny Simpson. She did some shopping while
:47:28. > :47:36.she was there. I think she did the whole site cease -- sightseeing
:47:37. > :47:46.experience, going to the line king. Getting experience over the road
:47:47. > :47:49.mile. It may suit her, she runs very well on cross-country, this is
:47:50. > :47:53.closer to that sort of mindset. Being able to visualise the road
:47:54. > :47:59.structure ahead of you. Gauging it perfectly. That is tough in the
:48:00. > :48:04.closing stages of a road mile, you don't come off the final bend,
:48:05. > :48:07.knowing you have 100 metres. You have to have the face and judgment
:48:08. > :48:15.in your own fitness to time it perfectly. Not chasing any records
:48:16. > :48:23.to date. All spread out. Katie Mackey, from the USA. Zoe Buckman.
:48:24. > :48:30.Genevieve Lacaze, with the blonde hair. Great season. New personal
:48:31. > :48:37.best in the steeplechase. Also 5000 metres. A Eilish McColgan, just a
:48:38. > :48:46.little bit off it. Rosie Clarke at the back. Going through 400 metres
:48:47. > :48:50.in a pretty pedestrian 76. If the final in Rio was an 800 metre race,
:48:51. > :48:56.this is in danger of being something similar. This is usually where
:48:57. > :49:01.things start to heat up. Taking time to settle into the race. Laura Muir
:49:02. > :49:05.controlling it. This is what she could have done in Rio, getting to
:49:06. > :49:13.the front, getting it ticking over at a reasonable place. -- pace. Some
:49:14. > :49:20.of the lap times different to what they would be on the track. It has
:49:21. > :49:26.picked up a little bit. A gradual wind up will suit Laura Muir. Also
:49:27. > :49:35.Laura Wightman. And Genevieve Lacaze. A leash McColgan will be
:49:36. > :49:40.tired after a personal best. She does not have twice a day training.
:49:41. > :49:43.She has been backing it up with crosstraining. That means at the end
:49:44. > :49:48.of the season you are running on tired legs. Laura Muir trying to
:49:49. > :49:56.wind it up. Laura Wightman trying to go with her. Katie Mackey rocking
:49:57. > :50:03.and rolling. About 550 metres to go. A little rise. You can see how they
:50:04. > :50:08.slow. Bending into the steep bank. Then they dropped down. Two Lauras.
:50:09. > :50:14.Still a long way to go. Laura Muir doing what she's doing all season.
:50:15. > :50:19.Stamping her authority on this. Laura Wightman trying to give chase.
:50:20. > :50:26.There are others trying to improve their position further back. A leash
:50:27. > :50:31.McColgan looking tired. Laura Muir still saving a little bit. Katie
:50:32. > :50:35.Mackey in third place, trying to stalk Laura Wightman, trying to
:50:36. > :50:43.fight. Able to see the track at this point. 250 metres left, what a year
:50:44. > :50:53.has been for her. Look at a leash McColgan coming back into it. Laura
:50:54. > :50:58.Muir, ten metre lead. A leash McColgan continuing to make
:50:59. > :51:02.progress, with 150 to go. Laura Muir, comfortable lead. Alison
:51:03. > :51:10.Leonard starting to try and run her down. Laura Muir, lasting this one
:51:11. > :51:15.out. Alison Leonard closing the gap. Not enough time to catch Laura Muir.
:51:16. > :51:21.Looking a little bit tired, so she should be. She will hold off Alison
:51:22. > :51:29.Leonard. Laura Muir, Alison Leonard, then Katie Mackey, then Laura
:51:30. > :51:34.Wightman, then McColgan. She won it in the middle of the race, attacking
:51:35. > :51:39.hard from the swing bridge. A big effort. A bit of pressure from
:51:40. > :51:46.Alison Leonard in the last 150, looking tired. You can allow her
:51:47. > :51:52.that. She has enough space to hold on for the win. Undoubtedly, you can
:51:53. > :52:08.say this is a tough one. Contrasting the times. She rarely 4.18 in New
:52:09. > :52:15.York. This is a tough race, a lot of inclines, lots of twists. She judge
:52:16. > :52:23.that one well, the battle was for the places behind her. A leash
:52:24. > :52:29.McColgan was closing quickly. She finished extremely fast. A prime
:52:30. > :52:30.example of judging it well. The others committed a bit too much in
:52:31. > :52:44.the incline coming up to 500 metres. She has had plenty to celebrate this
:52:45. > :52:51.year. One more win to celebrate, with Phil. Steve Cram saying you
:52:52. > :52:58.have had a lot to celebrate. A nice way to end it. To finish my season
:52:59. > :53:08.on home soil, great, great atmosphere. Tell me about the year,
:53:09. > :53:14.you have had some great records, the Olympic final not going to plan. How
:53:15. > :53:18.would you sum it up? I am over the moon. Little glitch in the Olympics,
:53:19. > :53:23.apart from that, really good. I have to be happy with how the season has
:53:24. > :53:29.gone. Tell everyone what you will be doing come Monday? Busy, busy.
:53:30. > :53:31.Giving to a vet and their replacement. From athletics to that.
:53:32. > :53:51.-- going to make that in all the while, the men's Long jump
:53:52. > :53:57.taking place. This is the third attempt from Greg
:53:58. > :54:07.Rutherford. His first positions established in the first round.
:54:08. > :54:14.Rutherford getting the white flag. I don't think that will improve on the
:54:15. > :54:22.first round. Pretty solid, on the board.
:54:23. > :54:31.Not enormous distances. That is Natalie Loic Remy his dancing
:54:32. > :54:35.partner. She was a schoolgirl sprinting champion in Australia.
:54:36. > :54:39.Waiting for him to finish this athletics nonsense, then they can go
:54:40. > :54:49.and practice ahead of the other thing. 7.60, still the mark from the
:54:50. > :55:05.first round leading. Laura Muir's winning time. She will
:55:06. > :55:08.be heading off to the Darlington Job Trust. Anything wrong with your dog
:55:09. > :55:22.around there, she will be there. Tomorrow, incredible 57,000 people
:55:23. > :55:28.running the 13 miles from Newcastle to South Shields, for the great
:55:29. > :55:37.North run, the world's favourite road race. 137 nations. I am
:55:38. > :56:04.British, I live in Switzerland. It is a beautiful day to be out
:56:05. > :56:14.retracing the footsteps of Rocky Balboa.
:56:15. > :56:31.This is going to be so awesome. Geordie land, the great North run,
:56:32. > :56:37.here we come. See you in Newcastle. I realise there are more than 178
:56:38. > :56:41.nations, there are just over 200. Pretty good going to have so many
:56:42. > :56:55.represented. Always a magnificent race. There are some magnificent
:56:56. > :57:05.elite runners. Particularly in the women's race. We have Tirunesh
:57:06. > :57:12.Dibaba. Gemma Steel could get there. We're watching the Olympic final.
:57:13. > :57:22.Judging the 5000 metres to perfection. She was not going to be
:57:23. > :57:27.able to go with that. When she realised she was starting to gain
:57:28. > :57:31.ground, moving strongly past her. Getting that Olympic gold, meant so
:57:32. > :57:44.much to her. Coming back from breaking the old world record.
:57:45. > :57:49.Rounding off a season, coming here, making her debut over the half
:57:50. > :57:54.marathon distance. The furthest she has run, ten miles. Not that much
:57:55. > :58:02.further to go. She definitely has huge potential, interesting to see
:58:03. > :58:08.how she does. How do you think it will go? I think it will be ahead
:58:09. > :58:15.head. Expecting a few others to get in there, dictate in the race. If it
:58:16. > :58:23.comes down to the closing stages, certainly going to come down to
:58:24. > :58:28.them. Having said that, I think Vivian is in shape to cope with
:58:29. > :58:38.that. We will talk about Mo Farah, running in the men's race. Let's
:58:39. > :58:41.guide you to your viewing. We kicked off at 9:30am tomorrow. So many
:58:42. > :59:03.amazing stories. Great action to come this afternoon.
:59:04. > :59:08.It is the fast women coming up in the 150, then the men. The women's
:59:09. > :59:30.500 metres going off later. In the 110 meter hurdles, Tiffany
:59:31. > :59:34.Porter, Great Britain's Olympic finalist in Rio. Phil Jones caught
:59:35. > :59:40.up with her yesterday. She is right alongside me. I know you are a great
:59:41. > :59:46.fan of these events. What do you enjoy most? The excitement, the
:59:47. > :59:51.energy from the crowd, helping to encourage athletes to do their best.
:59:52. > :59:56.I love ending my season here. This is the end of your season. In the
:59:57. > :00:02.past one more race, to date is the last one. I will go out there, do my
:00:03. > :00:05.very best, excited to race. Do you get into reflective mode
:00:06. > :00:12.straightaway after the season is over? Absolutely, especially once I
:00:13. > :00:16.crossed the line for my last race, reflecting, to see how the season
:00:17. > :00:20.was over role. Cannot wait to do that until after my last race. We
:00:21. > :00:22.will speak to you later on, thanks for waiting to talk to us before the
:00:23. > :00:34.race. Thank you, guys. So relaxed, these athletes. Speaking
:00:35. > :00:40.to fill come alive. So often they get a mental zone, getting into
:00:41. > :00:46.competition. There is a very relaxed vibe here today. Next up on the
:00:47. > :00:52.track, the women's 150 metres. Steve Cram commentating.
:00:53. > :01:02.Thanks, Gabby, we are all relaxed here as well. Hastings, Henry,
:01:03. > :01:10.Williams and Adeoye to contest this 150 metre race and a good mix of
:01:11. > :01:19.sprints and long and short sprint talent. Adeoye went to Rio but had
:01:20. > :01:25.niggling problems and didn't run as quickly as she would have liked.
:01:26. > :01:30.She's OK now. 400 is her better distance, as it is for Hastings. She
:01:31. > :01:36.ran last night in Brussels. Guess who won the 400 metres in the
:01:37. > :01:43.Diamond League last night, icals that Semenya. She beat Hastings. Henry
:01:44. > :01:49.will be the favourite here I think. She is in lane three, had a great
:01:50. > :01:52.year and is maturing quickly, the 21-year-old. Integral part of the 4
:01:53. > :02:08.x 100 team. Jodie Williams is ready for this,
:02:09. > :02:13.maybe warmed up after the race earlier on. Lots of changes for
:02:14. > :02:18.Jodie in terms of her regime and she's hoping that will continue
:02:19. > :02:20.through to next year and produce the sort of time she was running back in
:02:21. > :02:29.2014. Tough these days in women's
:02:30. > :02:42.sprinting and I mean that in a very positive way, competition for places
:02:43. > :02:59.in the relay Thame et cetera. Henry, Hastings, Williams and Adeoye.
:03:00. > :03:08.Jodie just a little nervous there. We don't really like to see false
:03:09. > :03:10.starts in such events like this. Let's see whether or not the starter
:03:11. > :03:35.will be generous. Jodie definitely was a little shaky.
:03:36. > :03:40.I'd be surprised - a little conversation going on there - I
:03:41. > :03:46.would be surprised if there is anything other than a yellow. A
:03:47. > :03:57.green, even better, nobody's been naughty at all. Green card. Just
:03:58. > :04:01.going back to the time that Anoura set in Manchester. She was running
:04:02. > :04:05.probably more 200s before she'd made the big move to 400 metres. Of
:04:06. > :04:11.course, again, part of the relay team that didn't make the individual
:04:12. > :04:16.event, she was. When you look down the list, it's sprinkled with 400
:04:17. > :04:19.metre talent. Emily Freeman's done 200, 400, Christine Ohuruogu, of
:04:20. > :04:25.course, in terms of the quickest times ever run by British athletes.
:04:26. > :04:29.The 100 metres need to step up. Jodie is the third fastest ever.
:04:30. > :04:49.Actually second fastest on a straight. So here we go again.
:04:50. > :04:58.Safely away this time. Jodie gets a good start. Henry the wrong side of
:04:59. > :05:05.Natasha. Look at Hastings doing well to hang on. Henry is going to win
:05:06. > :05:10.this one. Just look at the clock. 16. 16. 57, and if that's confirmed,
:05:11. > :05:13.that will be the quickest time ever by a British athlete. The win looks
:05:14. > :05:23.good there. And December reel Henry, she
:05:24. > :05:28.probably won't realise it at this point, but that could be a European
:05:29. > :05:32.best -- Desiree. Probably a little tired towards the end, but
:05:33. > :05:37.continuing in the great form we have seen from her.
:05:38. > :05:42.It was interesting watching Natasha, she goes quickly in the 400 metres,
:05:43. > :05:47.but in the middle of the race, tenry turned it on. Hastings waslike
:05:48. > :05:54.coming back here in the latter stages of the 150 metres. Henry
:05:55. > :05:57.leaning for the line and taking that as a UK record. Top of the UK
:05:58. > :06:06.all-time list. Good run. A big crowd down on the quayside
:06:07. > :06:10.here. This is the Gateshead side. They had a great race to watch
:06:11. > :06:15.there. Very good performance. A new national record, personal best from
:06:16. > :06:22.Natasha Hastings and Jodie Williams as well. But the winner, 16. 57
:06:23. > :06:30.seconds, great run from Desiree Henry who is with Phil.
:06:31. > :06:32.One happy person alongside me, Desiree, congratulations, a national
:06:33. > :06:36.record, your first as an individual, one in the relay as well, you are
:06:37. > :06:40.collecting them? Oh, my goodness, I never thought I would get a national
:06:41. > :06:44.record in the 150. Straight line and it seemed extremely far but I'm
:06:45. > :06:48.extremely happy, just walking around and doing my practise starts, the
:06:49. > :06:52.fans have cheered me on, so that was a nice experience, the crowd spurred
:06:53. > :06:54.me on to really run well and I did so thank you, share this national
:06:55. > :06:57.record with me! APPLAUSE.
:06:58. > :07:00.We should say thank you as well for the entertainment this year. The
:07:01. > :07:06.medal you and the other three women brought on for us in the 4 x 100 was
:07:07. > :07:11.one of the highlights from a GB perspective. How's it been for you
:07:12. > :07:17.since you got home? Amazing, I'm back in England in October so it's
:07:18. > :07:22.literally the British fans who've been cheering me on through the
:07:23. > :07:26.year. To come up with a medal, it makes it that more special. I want
:07:27. > :07:30.to give it back to the fans because everyone's been amazing. You are
:07:31. > :07:33.quite emotional, I know, it's been quite a year for you.
:07:34. > :07:37.Congratulations on a national record for you. Let's hear it for Desiree
:07:38. > :07:39.Henry, everyone. APPLAUSE.
:07:40. > :07:44.Thank you, guys, thank you for coming out.
:07:45. > :07:50.The men's long jump reaching its conclusion, this the only man who
:07:51. > :08:06.can deny Greg Rutherford, Damar Forbes. His final jump.
:08:07. > :08:11.That I don't think will be enough. It's certainly not going to beat
:08:12. > :08:25.Rutherford, that. Forbes trying to move himself up
:08:26. > :08:29.into the top three or perhaps challenge Rutherford. But he's not
:08:30. > :08:33.going to do that. 7. 35 it was confirmed as, so victory to
:08:34. > :08:40.Rutherford. Sealed it with his first jump. That's his seventh victory in
:08:41. > :08:45.the great CityGames from Manchester and Newcastle. Selfies and
:08:46. > :08:52.celebrations for Greg Rutherford who'll sign a few auto graphs and
:08:53. > :09:12.then move off to a nearby studio and build up for Strictly Come Dancing!
:09:13. > :09:19.Rutherford takes a win into a long, hard winter of training for Strictly
:09:20. > :09:23.Come Dancing! How long will he last? We haven't taken any bets just yet,
:09:24. > :09:30.Denise and Colin, who both went very far in the competition. Finalists,
:09:31. > :09:34.both of you. Yes, yes. Yes. What were you, first? Second, you know
:09:35. > :09:38.it. And you were? Second as well. It's all good.
:09:39. > :09:42.We'll talk to Greg later about his hopes and aspirations for that, but
:09:43. > :09:51.back to the business of athletics. Really looking forward to the 500
:09:52. > :09:55.metres later andly still that wereth Sharp -- Lynsey Sharp came first of
:09:56. > :10:03.course. Phil, I'm intrigued to know how the distance will be attacked?
:10:04. > :10:12.Let's find out. I will start with you, Annie, here is a 100, 200 metre
:10:13. > :10:16.woman, you have got up to 400, with success I might add, going to 500,
:10:17. > :10:21.what are you doing? If you want me to be honest I'm being set up and
:10:22. > :10:26.there's nothing I can do about it. I wanted to finish my season here
:10:27. > :10:31.after having a great 2016 and what's an extra 100 metres between friends
:10:32. > :10:35.and rivals? ! Coming down in distance for you, by
:10:36. > :10:39.300 metres, so how do you gauge the race, how are you going to attack
:10:40. > :10:42.the race? I don't know, I did it two years ago and feel like I went too
:10:43. > :10:47.fast. I don't know if that is the only way to do it, to go out hard
:10:48. > :10:52.and see how long you can last so I'm undecided. Same for you, you are
:10:53. > :10:58.going to go for it? See how long we can last it out. Hang on, isn't it?
:10:59. > :11:04.! Gosh! We are going to enjoy it anyway. Thanks for providing the
:11:05. > :11:08.entertainment. Thank you. Anicka is looking forward to this as
:11:09. > :11:13.much as I looked forward to dog the jive on Strictly. It's not exactly
:11:14. > :11:18.scientific their approach but should be very entertaining. The men get
:11:19. > :11:22.their turn later on as well -- forward to doing the jive on
:11:23. > :11:26.Strictly. Andrew, you can see the kind of
:11:27. > :11:32.athletes who do well at this because it's between the 100 and 200 metres?
:11:33. > :11:36.In comparison with the 500 and the 400, it's a couple of hundred metre
:11:37. > :11:41.specialists against a couple of 200 metres. Kiltie specialises in the
:11:42. > :12:05.shorter distance. A very familiar person in lane one,
:12:06. > :12:20.the former world youth junior champion over 100 metres.
:12:21. > :12:33.A high quality athlete, Spearmon. His father was a very, very good
:12:34. > :12:40.sprinter also. Richard Kilty. Y A high quality athlete, Spearmon.
:12:41. > :12:45.His father was a very, very good sprinter also. Richard Kilty. Taking
:12:46. > :12:49.his final fix. A great 60 metre man, former World Indoor Champion.
:12:50. > :12:56.European indoor champion over 60, so 150 metres. Can he hang on over the
:12:57. > :13:03.final 50? He's ran quick 100s this year not too far away from here in
:13:04. > :13:09.Hexham. Interesting stat, Desiree from 50 metres to 150, she ran that
:13:10. > :13:13.100 metres in 10. 39, so a flying start. They'll be the quickest 100
:13:14. > :13:24.metres ever run by a British woman. That's really where she won the race
:13:25. > :13:31.from 50 metres on. Sport-month-old is being attacked bid a bee. Regains
:13:32. > :13:37.his focus. Aikines-Arieety in one, Talbot in two, Spearmon in three and
:13:38. > :13:45.Kilty in lane four. The men's 150 metres.
:13:46. > :13:53.Good started as ever by Kilty and Kilty leading. Kilty and Talbot. On
:13:54. > :13:57.the inside Kilty. Spearmon trying to come back. So close between these
:13:58. > :14:04.four and Aikines-Arieety and Talbot now. Talbot and Kilty on the line
:14:05. > :14:09.just about together. Again, as it was earlier on, very difficult to
:14:10. > :14:13.call with the naked eye. Perhaps Talbot there, I've stuck my neck out
:14:14. > :14:19.and said it and that means surely it's not Talbot! Toll bolt and Kilty
:14:20. > :14:29.side by side together. A great race. I think you are rights. -- Talbot.
:14:30. > :14:37.For Harry, once he got past 100 metres, he was then just starting to
:14:38. > :14:42.struggle a bit. Richard Kilty nearest the camera, you think he's
:14:43. > :14:46.going to move on there because Danny Talbot, maybe tired from his recent
:14:47. > :14:52.exertions, but Danny just about lasting it out I think. Let's see on
:14:53. > :14:55.the dip. See what Kilty does, turns that right shoulder in there, to see
:14:56. > :15:00.if he can get the nod, but doesn't and in fact, time just coming in at
:15:01. > :15:06.15. 06, that's pretty swift. Anyone gets in under 15 is very, very good.
:15:07. > :15:11.Another great race. Good to see the guys being so competitive. I keep
:15:12. > :15:20.saying, Andrew, there is next year to think about. A lot of pride still
:15:21. > :15:25.at stake. Very good race indeed. Talbot just getting it. Kilty will
:15:26. > :15:30.wrap that up later on. Let's hear from him now talking to Phil.
:15:31. > :15:35.Providing more entertainment for the crowd today. Danny, you got the
:15:36. > :15:39.victory in the end, did you have an eye on the British record? I wanted
:15:40. > :15:43.to get through safely. It's been a good year and a good way to finish
:15:44. > :15:48.racing against my training part they ares. Good fun. Richard, you are a
:15:49. > :15:51.local lad, always love being here and running in front of the crowd.
:15:52. > :15:55.What do you want to say to the people here? Thank you very much for
:15:56. > :15:58.the support, it's absolutely amazing, speaking on behalf of the
:15:59. > :16:02.athletes, this is the favourite competition on the circuit just to
:16:03. > :16:06.bring athletics to the locals, up close, and we really appreciate your
:16:07. > :16:10.support, it's amazing. Thanks for being part of it and well done.
:16:11. > :16:16.Thank you. Good race. These were the times. Not
:16:17. > :16:27.too far away from the British record.
:16:28. > :16:32.Time now to see what Steve Cram's top three moments in the athletics
:16:33. > :16:49.season are so far. Fabulous performance. This may well
:16:50. > :16:53.be one of his best performances ever, given everything that happened
:16:54. > :16:59.today, including falling at the start line.
:17:00. > :17:15.Here's going to win his second Olympic gold. David Rudisha window.
:17:16. > :17:18.-- wins it. I can ask Steve Cram about your choices, nobody has
:17:19. > :17:24.picked Usain Bolt. Tell us how you came to that conclusion. That was
:17:25. > :17:34.all I had left. I love that 1500 metre final. It was a great race.
:17:35. > :17:39.Coming down to the last lap. In the past, he has not really try to win
:17:40. > :17:43.races, tried to win medals. This time he got himself in front.
:17:44. > :17:59.Incredible. Look at all the people coming. Mick Willis stealing in.
:18:00. > :18:05.Great race. That was one of the most incredible bits of distance running
:18:06. > :18:17.I have seen. Running about 4.90 for the first mile. We ended with David
:18:18. > :18:21.Rudisha, back to his best. A fair few doubts about him this year, he
:18:22. > :18:25.threw them away. He was contemplating this year would be it.
:18:26. > :18:32.That gold medal reminding him how good he was. Hopefully he will be in
:18:33. > :18:38.London. You will see him in London, running 500 metres later on. The
:18:39. > :18:43.last event for the seniors, a junior event after that. He has caught up
:18:44. > :18:49.with Phil Jones yesterday. He had a chat about his difficult time over
:18:50. > :18:53.the last four years. The great David Rudisha, looks magnificent. He is
:18:54. > :19:01.going to win his second Olympic gold. So happy. This is one of the
:19:02. > :19:08.achievements I have always been dreaming about. Really working hard
:19:09. > :19:19.to see that one day I achieved it. To do that. Not something that was
:19:20. > :19:30.easy. I had a lot of problems with injury in the previous years. Last
:19:31. > :19:37.race at Rio, one of the fastest times since London. Perfectly
:19:38. > :19:41.fitting in. It is great. I don't know whether people will know,
:19:42. > :19:50.talking about your injuries, just how bad it was. During my injuries,
:19:51. > :20:02.I learned a lot of things. Patience, determination. At that point, when
:20:03. > :20:07.it came back, I was getting beaten, fourth place, fifth place. Not least
:20:08. > :20:13.of it. Of course people thought, maybe now his career is over. It is
:20:14. > :20:18.ended. I never lost hope. I knew I was not doing my training properly.
:20:19. > :20:24.I knew when I would get there I would be back to my cell. On the
:20:25. > :20:29.back of the fantastic achievement in Rio, this is quite a contrast. This
:20:30. > :20:38.is a little bit and unique. Actually most of the time, this is a fast
:20:39. > :20:44.time. Without doing any competition. I think it is going to be more
:20:45. > :20:51.exciting. I am looking forward to see how it is going to go. Should be
:20:52. > :20:56.fascinating. First-time racing without spikes. Just after four
:20:57. > :21:02.o'clock. They have put the hurdles out. Andrew Cotter will commentate
:21:03. > :21:08.on the women's first. With the hurdles, it looks lethal.
:21:09. > :21:13.Interestingly with this track. The same one used in Manchester. David
:21:14. > :21:19.King said, there was a bit more bounce, the hurdles coming quickly.
:21:20. > :21:25.Adjustments for the women to make. Strong American challenge. Cindy
:21:26. > :21:33.Roleder will be powerful. Tiffany Porter with her work cut out.
:21:34. > :21:37.American clean sweep in Rio. Even without the world record Kenny
:21:38. > :21:43.Harrison. Jackie Coward finished seventh at the US trials. When you
:21:44. > :21:49.consider the strength in American women's sprinting, naming feet.
:21:50. > :21:54.Cindy Roleder, European champion, world silver medallist in Beijing.
:21:55. > :22:02.Fifth at the Olympics. Fourth in Brussels last night. Tiffany Porter,
:22:03. > :22:12.we've heard from her already. UK title win other than that, a step or
:22:13. > :22:18.to behind her younger female sister. Most people know about Jasmin
:22:19. > :22:22.Stowers. She was writing contention until falling at the final barrier.
:22:23. > :22:27.She certainly could have contended for a medal, has she been there.
:22:28. > :22:41.Perhaps they will start as the favourites here. Jackie Coward, in
:22:42. > :22:56.lane one. Tiffany Porter, there or thereabouts. Lacking a bit is it
:22:57. > :23:07.this season. -- lacking a bit of zip. Tiffany Porter goes in three.
:23:08. > :23:14.Jasmin Stowers in four. Cleanly away. Good start by Camera. Tiffany
:23:15. > :23:20.Porter moving strongly. Alongside Jackie Coward. Clear of the rest.
:23:21. > :23:28.Jackie Coward coming through to take it from Porter. That went against
:23:29. > :23:33.form. The athletes with the highest pedigrees in third and four. Jackie
:23:34. > :23:40.Coward and Tiffany Porter contesting it. Cow would taking the victory.
:23:41. > :23:44.All down to mistakes, it is a technical event, you have to
:23:45. > :23:51.remember that. Really aggressive, good to see.
:23:52. > :23:56.About this stage when Tiffany clatters one of the barriers.
:23:57. > :24:01.Pulling her right the way back. That is where she lost the race. You have
:24:02. > :24:09.to be flawless technically to take the victory. Not necessarily the
:24:10. > :24:20.quickest time. Jackie Coward taking the victory. Just ahead of Tiffany
:24:21. > :24:24.Porter. A little earlier on, some youngsters having their chance to
:24:25. > :24:32.come and sample the atmosphere. Year sevens. This was Ellie Halton, Emily
:24:33. > :24:40.Hopkinson, Sophia Das. Squalor -- qualifications races were held to
:24:41. > :24:52.make it to the final. Good time. Exactly the same as she
:24:53. > :24:59.ran in qualification. Also a very good swimmer. Showing how well she
:25:00. > :25:05.can do with running. This is Hugo Fletcher. Sorry, Charlie Fletcher,
:25:06. > :25:08.running well. I'm told his hero is Alan Shearer. Recently joined
:25:09. > :25:28.Gateshead Harriers. Great to see the youngsters enjoying
:25:29. > :25:32.this. Like these kids, if you have been watching all the great sport,

:26:28. > :26:34.Confirmation of the result in the women's 100 metres hurdles.
:26:35. > :26:43.Disappointing from Cindy Roleder and Jasmin Stowers. You just heard me
:26:44. > :26:48.saying well done, you may have wondered who I was talking to, it
:26:49. > :26:52.was Greg Rutherford. Getting the formalities out of the way. As much
:26:53. > :26:59.as we appreciate your long jumping, that is what you are here to talk
:27:00. > :27:04.about. That is it. Everybody wants to talk about dancing, no long
:27:05. > :27:09.jumping. What I'm expecting. It will take over your life. It already has.
:27:10. > :27:13.On Tuesday I realise I had not done any athletics based training in
:27:14. > :27:20.three weeks. Did some run-through is on my runway. Some pop-ups, to see
:27:21. > :27:25.if I can remember. I view allows you allowed to tell us your first dance?
:27:26. > :27:31.I am not. Pretty fast, very intricate, to say the least. Quite
:27:32. > :27:36.epic. I tell you what, this is a completely new world. Very difficult
:27:37. > :27:42.to learn these dances. A hell of a lot of fun, I have the best teacher
:27:43. > :27:48.in Natalie. Natalie was here enjoying your long jump performance.
:27:49. > :27:54.You are very proficient. Natalie was out there enjoying the competition.
:27:55. > :27:58.Watching you in your day job. We thought it was important, so
:27:59. > :28:03.terrible on the dance floor, I thought, come and watch me long
:28:04. > :28:08.jumping. Something I can do, and we will see if there is anything we can
:28:09. > :28:11.transfer onto the dance floor. These to are finalists, veterans of the
:28:12. > :28:22.John Ryan. Feel free to ask them any advice. Everyone has been telling
:28:23. > :28:27.the athletes and alike, they have a very good. Always making the final.
:28:28. > :28:31.We went to the practice, and I was terrified. Remember to point your
:28:32. > :28:40.toes, good start. Don't count, keep smiling. He impressing judges. Did
:28:41. > :28:43.you count? Yes. Remember your routines, keep smiling. As long as
:28:44. > :28:51.you are smiling, look like they're having fun. For the men, it is the
:28:52. > :28:57.arms. Get the arm movement. Go wider, saving see the end of the
:28:58. > :29:01.arm. We started learning a section where my arm goes up into a
:29:02. > :29:07.physician. Getting it together. The middle finger has the slightly
:29:08. > :29:11.separate. Very difficult. Hands are difficult, if you get them wrong,
:29:12. > :29:16.they look too feminine, in dancing, does not work. What they seem to
:29:17. > :29:23.like with the sports men and women, you retain your masculinity. I am
:29:24. > :29:28.not sure I had much of that in the first place. We are working on that.
:29:29. > :29:33.The weirdest thing, every time I meet Natalie to dance. I have this
:29:34. > :29:38.weird protection, I hug her, rather than hold her. I have had to drop
:29:39. > :29:41.that. It is called holding on for dear life, you finally gets more
:29:42. > :29:49.prevalent as the competition goes on. I'm finding that in week one. We
:29:50. > :29:52.will see what happens. We are all excited, we have experienced the
:29:53. > :29:56.Strictly above all, it is a wonderful show. Best of luck from
:29:57. > :30:01.the athletics world. Don't tell me you are not dancing to Van Halen's
:30:02. > :30:07.Jump. Something like that may make an appearance. I don't know what
:30:08. > :30:11.dances are coming up. Apparently a view jump and references in my
:30:12. > :30:18.routines. And surely will do well. Best of luck. We may come along.
:30:19. > :30:23.Let's get back to athletics. Very interesting 500 metres races coming
:30:24. > :30:30.up. The women giving off first. Andrew Cotter, fancy your chances at
:30:31. > :30:35.Strictly? Absolutely not. Looking forward to the women's 500 metres.
:30:36. > :30:46.Three 400 metre runners against three 800 metres runners. Who will
:30:47. > :30:52.win? To give you a pointer, when this event was last Asian couple of
:30:53. > :30:59.years ago. Christine Ohuruogu won against Lynsey Sharp. A blow for the
:31:00. > :31:03.400 metre runners. It is a tricky course, 500 metres start, they come
:31:04. > :31:06.down the slope. Little bit of a bend, coming round. Eventually
:31:07. > :31:19.getting to the track, 150 metres to go. Who will win?
:31:20. > :31:32.Lynsey Sharp. Tracey. How will they judge it? So difficult in this
:31:33. > :31:49.rarely run distance. Lynsey sharn at the moment.
:31:50. > :32:05.ANoura biding her time. So too Neilsen. Sharp still just alongside
:32:06. > :32:13.the woman who's pushed her so hard and made 100 metres. Anoura trying
:32:14. > :32:20.to get back. Sharp hanging on, hanging on, and she's going to get
:32:21. > :32:27.the victory. Celebrations across the line from Sharp. She takes the
:32:28. > :32:32.victory and strikes a blow. That's hard work. She took it out quickly.
:32:33. > :32:39.She knew she would have the strength to hang on towards the end. Lynsey
:32:40. > :32:47.Sharp with just enough to hold off Oskan-Clarke so the 800 meeters
:32:48. > :32:56.dominating. That's fast. Lynsey got her tactics right.
:32:57. > :33:07.Well done Lynsey lasting it out. Smile across the line eventually
:33:08. > :33:16.replaces the grimace. 162 has been confirmed. There's a bit of a
:33:17. > :33:19.downhill section at the start. Very quick time and good run for Lynsey
:33:20. > :33:34.Sharp. Oskan-Clarke just ahead of Oanoura.
:33:35. > :33:39.Phil Jones milling around and he has the main protagonists with him.
:33:40. > :33:44.We spoke to both these women before the race. We didn't know what to
:33:45. > :33:50.expect but you provided great entertainment. Lynsey, you got it
:33:51. > :33:54.spot on? I had a couple of people to work with. My legs buckled a bit as
:33:55. > :33:59.I came on to the track but I was able to recover from it. You did
:34:00. > :34:07.well. Chasing her down. 500, let's be honest, is a tough ask for you
:34:08. > :34:13.and somebody who's been a sprinter in the past? It was good fun, I
:34:14. > :34:21.actually really enjoyed it. I'm not putting it out there that I want to
:34:22. > :34:25.move to 800, I'm just saying... Good on Lynsey, you recovered well. Final
:34:26. > :34:30.word on the whole occasion today, what's it been like for you to round
:34:31. > :34:33.off this kind of season? It's the place that everyone wants to end the
:34:34. > :34:37.season, so much fun, great to be back in front of the British crowd
:34:38. > :34:39.and celebrating the whole year. It's been such fun, thank you to
:34:40. > :34:43.everybody for being an incredible crowd. Thank you for the
:34:44. > :34:53.entertainment today, it's been wonderful. Thank you.
:34:54. > :35:13.Lynsey Sharp and Onuora. Oskan-Clarke separating them.
:35:14. > :35:19.Brendan Foster's moments coming up now.
:35:20. > :35:31.One of the greatest pieces of distance you've ever seen. Kipchoge.
:35:32. > :35:34.In my view, he's the greatest sportsman Britain's ever had and
:35:35. > :35:43.seen and one of the greatest distance runners the world's ever
:35:44. > :35:49.seen. Arise, Sir Mo! How did you come up with him? ! I
:35:50. > :35:54.met him once! Let's talk about your other choices as well, Kipchoge,
:35:55. > :35:59.deserved a mention? He's been a great athlete for a long time, 2003
:36:00. > :36:04.he won the World Championships at 5,000 metres and then 13 years later
:36:05. > :36:09.after years of being on the rostrum there and thereabouts, just the true
:36:10. > :36:12.Olympic spirit, keeping going, keeping going, eventually winning a
:36:13. > :36:16.marathon was wonderful. He's a terrific man, a character and a
:36:17. > :36:21.great inspiration for lots of athletes around the world. An
:36:22. > :36:28.amazing way to start the athletics programme? It was a real shock. The
:36:29. > :36:31.performances, nobody's looked at the record books to see how long the
:36:32. > :36:33.records have stood. We always assume the records will last forever,
:36:34. > :36:48.especially in China. That was marvellous, a wonderful
:36:49. > :36:52.time and then Mohammed Farah, I mean he was sensational! He has a knack
:36:53. > :36:57.of winning gold medals. Honestly, he news to package it and explain to us
:36:58. > :37:01.all how it happens because the next generation deserve to learn from Mo
:37:02. > :37:04.and how you do it, not just to be a great athlete, but to come here,
:37:05. > :37:09.become a great athlete, winning gold medals all the time. It's been a
:37:10. > :37:14.pleasure watching him. He won the first global gold in 2011 and then
:37:15. > :37:18.at every major Championships since it's been double gold. It's easy to
:37:19. > :37:22.become a little complacent and think, that's what you do, but it's
:37:23. > :37:26.not been done what he's done before? No athlete in history's dominated
:37:27. > :37:30.distance running year after year for six or seven years. He's here!
:37:31. > :37:35.Listen, you can tell what they think of im. He's just the greatest, he
:37:36. > :37:38.really is. He's not going to go to the hurdles is he. He'll be nervous
:37:39. > :37:44.with the Great North Run tomorrow, if he was going to start hurdling,
:37:45. > :37:49.you would be nervous. Let's give him a wave, he's behind us here. Mo!
:37:50. > :37:55.He's got his jeans on, looking very casual today. Look at the crowds and
:37:56. > :37:58.the kids, you know, that's how you get inspired isn't it, that's how
:37:59. > :38:02.you get kids involved in sport, you push in order their people like me
:38:03. > :38:08.to go for a bit longer, you know, I've been reading about some running
:38:09. > :38:11.in the Great North Run tomorrow. I was reading about one lady who'd
:38:12. > :38:15.never run before and she was inspired by Mo. He's such a good
:38:16. > :38:19.guy. He's explaining to people, you only get there by hard work. That's
:38:20. > :38:23.the message that everyone takes away. He worked hard, done it
:38:24. > :38:28.brilliantly and he's a pleasure to be around, he's a great guy.
:38:29. > :38:32.Let's get back out there, Brendan, because there's so much great
:38:33. > :38:36.athletics still to come. Thank you very much for your choices as well.
:38:37. > :38:47.Time for the men's hurdles. Let's go back to the commentary box.
:38:48. > :39:04.If men's 110 metres hurdles and this is the line-up.
:39:05. > :39:21.Eaton standing clear from the rest. A pretty good line-up this,
:39:22. > :39:23.actually. And there is David King, new personal best 13.54 for the
:39:24. > :39:37.22-year-old. Alongside him is the man who might
:39:38. > :39:44.be the future of British men's spin hurdling, David Omeregie. Ran 13. 25
:39:45. > :39:55.in July but it was too late to be considered for Rio. How will he go
:39:56. > :40:01.here? Alongside him, the US indoor champion, Jarret Eaton. Ties with
:40:02. > :40:08.Omeregie. Svoboda of the Czech Republic, the indoor European
:40:09. > :40:12.champion in 2011. So many problems with his Achilles and so many
:40:13. > :40:21.operations. Best days perhaps behind him. Omeregie and Eaton again on
:40:22. > :40:25.form. Didn't go to form at all in the women's 100 hurdles. Might
:40:26. > :40:31.expect a battle between Eaton and Omeregie.
:40:32. > :40:34.Almost a heat haze on the banks of the Tyne. Strange days. King,
:40:35. > :40:42.Omeregie, Eaton and Svoboda. This is the penultimate track event,
:40:43. > :40:53.the men's 500 metres to come, which will be fascinating.
:40:54. > :41:12.57,000 running in the great north run tomorrow.
:41:13. > :41:27.Little touch there from King but clearly away now and Omeregie
:41:28. > :41:32.falling back there immediately at the first hurdle. Eaton getting back
:41:33. > :41:36.into it. Omeregie all over the place. Omeregie coming through now
:41:37. > :41:42.to take it. Strange race and Omeregie takes the victory. That's a
:41:43. > :41:47.raw pace bought through at the end. It wasn't the cleanest race. But he
:41:48. > :41:51.tidied things up. An early stutter and Eaton stumbled over the barriers
:41:52. > :41:55.and Omeregie was there to take advantage and take the victory. I
:41:56. > :42:01.think David is very happy that other people around him made mistakes as
:42:02. > :42:05.well, causing him to come back into that great race of his. You make
:42:06. > :42:09.mistakes along the way, you have to learn how to handle them. There was
:42:10. > :42:13.arms that clashed which caused a bit of upset. You know what, he takes
:42:14. > :42:19.the victory and he'll be happy to finish the season there.
:42:20. > :42:23.We watch from on high, but their arms were interlocking. Svoboda was
:42:24. > :42:29.almost off the track. The two men, after a very good start by Svoboda,
:42:30. > :42:33.you see a bit of a tangle. A bit of a clash of arms. You can see there,
:42:34. > :42:37.that's when they had the Big Bash, that could have caused a lot of
:42:38. > :42:40.hassle there. What the end result will be, will Eaton himself
:42:41. > :42:44.complain, who knows, it's the end of the season, he may just take it on
:42:45. > :42:49.the chin. There are rules, but certainly in
:42:50. > :42:54.this meeting, they do tend to be a bit more lenient with things.
:42:55. > :42:56.Omeregie was out of his lane briefly interfering with Eaton. There is the
:42:57. > :43:15.results. David, congratulations on the win.
:43:16. > :43:19.Unfortunately, the guy alongside you here clipped and gave you the chance
:43:20. > :43:24.to come back at him? Yes, yes, it was a really close race. To be
:43:25. > :43:28.honest, I just wanted to do this and finish injury free because I've had
:43:29. > :43:32.a hell of a travel to get here the last couple of hours. I managed to
:43:33. > :43:36.get here and Jarret was the same, just happy to finish the season on a
:43:37. > :43:42.high with a win. What's it been like, a nightmare getting here? Oh,
:43:43. > :43:47.man, some crazy travels. Limited sleep last night, taking a bus at 4
:43:48. > :43:50.am getting here at 6, trying to get a nap, you know. Had it better than
:43:51. > :43:57.somebody else but you've got to do what you've got to do it.
:43:58. > :44:01.Unfortunately, you clipped? Anything can happen in hurdles, we are so
:44:02. > :44:05.close, things happen, but, you know, it didn't work out in my favour this
:44:06. > :44:11.time. A nice way to round off season for you? Yes. London 2017, nice
:44:12. > :44:15.three-week break then back into training for next year. Wish you
:44:16. > :44:21.well for next year, thanks guys, all the very best. Thank you. Thank you.
:44:22. > :44:29.I'm delighted to say that Mo Farah has taken himself away from those
:44:30. > :44:33.hysterical fans, delighted fans here and made his way up to the studio.
:44:34. > :44:37.Good to see you and it's the first chance we have had to say
:44:38. > :44:44.congratulations. What an amazing Olympics? Yes, amazing Olympics and

:46:20. > :46:25.there is nobody better. Talking yesterday, winning more gold medals
:46:26. > :46:31.than Haile Gebrselassie. He said he would never believe that happen. I
:46:32. > :46:35.remember talking to Brendan, telling you what I need to do. If I could
:46:36. > :46:40.only have one medal, I remember seeing you, you said you have to
:46:41. > :46:44.believe in yourself and your kick. I never did. Over the years got
:46:45. > :46:58.stronger, started to believe in myself. Training with the canyons, I

:47:26. > :47:30.learned, by being stronger, you can have more speed. Improving one or to
:47:31. > :47:35.macro percent, that is what I had done over the years. Younger and
:47:36. > :47:37.older athletes picking up on your brilliance, your tips, trying to

:48:43. > :48:48.you don't get that every day. I could never turn it down. Really
:48:49. > :48:52.excited. A long time since I ran on the roads, my mini marathon days are
:48:53. > :48:56.long behind me. I thought I would go on the road at Loughborough, having
:48:57. > :49:02.a go at sprinting. 300 metres downhill, pretty intense. It is
:49:03. > :49:07.tough on the body. Interesting how I handle it. We are all in the same
:49:08. > :49:12.boat. None of us used to be. David is used to running on dirt, does not
:49:13. > :49:18.suit anybody. Great experience. Right in front of the people in
:49:19. > :49:27.Newcastle, Gateshead. Excited to get on. A little bit of banter going on
:49:28. > :49:31.between Martyn Rooney and David Rudisha, not only how the race will

:54:58. > :55:02.When you are running with racing shoes, actually find them of the

:56:23. > :56:26.Such an elegant runner. Understatement to describe David's
:56:27. > :56:31.performance like that. One of these true world-class athletes. When they
:56:32. > :56:36.are at their best, beautiful to watch. Even as a sprint hurdler I
:56:37. > :56:40.have admiration for that fluency. Tremendous to have an athlete of
