:00:49. > :00:57.Welcome to Birmingham for the Muller Grand Prix, the biggest and best
:00:58. > :01:01.indoor meeting under one roof this year and it kicks off our 2017
:01:02. > :01:08.athletics coverage in style. We will be in Belgrade in two weeks for the
:01:09. > :01:12.indoors and in May, all roads lead to London for the World Athletics
:01:13. > :01:19.Championships in London. The sport has had turbulence times of late as
:01:20. > :01:22.negative headlines so can 2017 BBA positive performances take centre
:01:23. > :01:27.stage? We will be with you every step of the way, starting today,
:01:28. > :01:38.when the stars will be out in force with familiar faces ready to
:01:39. > :01:45.entertain you. Elaine Thompson!
:01:46. > :01:53.Just catches on the line, gold for Australia.
:01:54. > :02:00.Richard Kilty might get back, called for Great Britain.
:02:01. > :02:05.That is how you do it, and she cannot believe that, Katerina
:02:06. > :02:08.Stefanidi. He is getting better, he is getting
:02:09. > :02:18.quicker, Andrew Pozzi! Oh, my word, she has smashed the
:02:19. > :02:25.British record. The inevitable, bow to his superiority, Mo Farah wins
:02:26. > :02:31.the gold! 6,000 people have packed the arena
:02:32. > :02:44.to watch Asha Philip and Andrew Pozzi and the world and Olympic
:02:45. > :02:47.medallist Jazmin Sawyers, Olympic bronze-medallist Darren Neita, all
:02:48. > :02:54.on show with a host of stars, it is the Indoor Grand Prix. And we will
:02:55. > :03:00.continue on the Red Button and the BBC website with chat and analysis.
:03:01. > :03:08.Contact us on Facebook and all the platforms. Your comments and
:03:09. > :03:14.thoughts, as always, appreciated. And we will look further ahead to
:03:15. > :03:18.the European indoors in two weeks' time, with live coverage from Friday
:03:19. > :03:22.March the 3rd, and the British squad will be announced on Tuesday, so
:03:23. > :03:26.plenty to look forward to. And it is the first time proper the team will
:03:27. > :03:31.be altogether so Denise, Stephen, Paula, great to see you, a bit late
:03:32. > :03:35.to say happy New Year, I have seen used separately, but it feels like a
:03:36. > :03:39.happy and positive place, always an enjoyable meet and the crowd
:03:40. > :03:45.appreciated. Having said a happy place, I was not with the IAAF. Why
:03:46. > :03:51.do I get the IAAF? You are the grown-up! You are very knowledgeable
:03:52. > :03:55.and entrenched and you talk to a lot of people who are very much involved
:03:56. > :03:59.in the future of the sport and that is what it is about, is period of
:04:00. > :04:05.turbulence and negative headlines, but for the greater good and Se Coe
:04:06. > :04:10.was not going to push a magic button and sort everything out overnight. A
:04:11. > :04:13.lot of issues from last year still being dealt with and some going
:04:14. > :04:17.through the criminal courts from the previous regime but finally he has
:04:18. > :04:22.been able to put some of the things he has wanted to put into practice
:04:23. > :04:28.at the beginning that he came in with the mandate about, making these
:04:29. > :04:31.changes. The first is changing the constitution and construction of how
:04:32. > :04:37.the IAAF operates on the council and you can bring in more reforms. They
:04:38. > :04:41.still have the Russian problem. Still banned. Russian athletes
:04:42. > :04:45.individually will apply to compete in London so we cannot say there
:04:46. > :04:49.will not be Russians in London, there could be more than we saw in
:04:50. > :04:53.Rio. The regions rule which we have shouted about coming he has
:04:54. > :05:00.suspended -- the allegiance rule. People shifting countries too
:05:01. > :05:03.easily. Positive things, they have talked about where we host the World
:05:04. > :05:06.Championships and the bidding process, changing that, so finally
:05:07. > :05:11.able to do some of the things he wants and he needs to. And one of
:05:12. > :05:15.the things he thought was quite an exciting progression, and
:05:16. > :05:21.experiment, was the nature athletics meet we saw over the last couple of
:05:22. > :05:24.weeks in Melbourne which brought together events that individually
:05:25. > :05:29.have been seen before but never in one collective like that. What did
:05:30. > :05:35.you make of that and was it a success for you, Denise? It was fun,
:05:36. > :05:41.athletics is a young and vibrant sport with a lot of young people in
:05:42. > :05:47.it. My reservations, it was packed out, three days it was on, they had
:05:48. > :05:52.great crowds, we saw mixed para sports and combined men and women's
:05:53. > :05:57.events. People having fun and we love that. But it was the Usain Bolt
:05:58. > :06:01.show, he was there in abundance and would they have got the crowd
:06:02. > :06:05.capacities had he not been participating? We know the answer to
:06:06. > :06:09.that. But we all recognise something needs to change in the sport outside
:06:10. > :06:13.the major championships, it needs to be a little bit different without
:06:14. > :06:17.losing the core values of the sport. People want a barometer, they want
:06:18. > :06:20.to know if they are watching something that will be faster than
:06:21. > :06:25.the fastest ever and they like that, the certainty, is it the furthest
:06:26. > :06:29.ever throw and longest ever jump, it is the simplicity that attracts so
:06:30. > :06:35.many. Exactly, this is what we love and my traditionalist hat says if it
:06:36. > :06:39.is not that broke, don't fix it, but we need to address the young people
:06:40. > :06:43.watching the sport and that is not about the format, it is what we do
:06:44. > :06:47.in and around the tournaments. Talking about records, there is one
:06:48. > :06:51.woman who every time she steps on the track, she breaks records and
:06:52. > :06:56.she's going for another today, Laura Muir, looking so strong and so
:06:57. > :07:01.physically a different specimen to over a year ago. We saw the sides in
:07:02. > :07:06.2016. Yes, they were all there, we are seeing her maturing. She is
:07:07. > :07:15.getting stronger and stronger. We are looking here at the race where
:07:16. > :07:22.she basically destroyed Hellen Obiri over the final 500m of the race and
:07:23. > :07:26.in that last lap, Hellen Obiri gave it everything and she could not
:07:27. > :07:30.compete with Laura Muir and the confidence Laura got from that and
:07:31. > :07:34.she is getting from her training, she is getting stronger mentally and
:07:35. > :07:42.physically. This is the quicker end of her range, to run a British best
:07:43. > :07:46.over 1,000, after having run a 5,000 and 3,000. We saw her in Edinburgh
:07:47. > :07:50.as well. We will talk about her and other athletes looking for times and
:07:51. > :07:54.distances to get qualification for Belgrade. You are going to the
:07:55. > :07:59.commentary box, so I will tell you how the afternoon is lining up.
:08:00. > :08:04.Starting with the women's 60-metre heats. Featuring a Elaine Thompson,
:08:05. > :08:11.and the women's spread and hurdles is one of the hottest events.
:08:12. > :08:15.Richard Kilty was disqualified in the indoor British Championships
:08:16. > :08:20.last week and he will be under pressure to perform today. That all
:08:21. > :08:28.of Britain in the women's Long Jump, the champion Lorraine is good
:08:29. > :08:31.against Jasmin Stowers. Talented Andy -- talented Adam Ponzi is back
:08:32. > :08:38.to his best, we will see him in the hurdles. And Scottish sensation
:08:39. > :08:45.Laura Muir will attempt to break the world record of Dame Kelly Holmes,
:08:46. > :08:49.she has already broken the world 5,000 and 3000m records. Add Mo
:08:50. > :08:55.Farah rounds of the action with the 5000m. He was struggling last time
:08:56. > :08:59.we saw him in Edinburgh. And we have the forum on the Red Button from
:09:00. > :09:03.4:30pm and we will speak to a lot of the athletes from today and review
:09:04. > :09:12.those NITRO athletics Games which took place in Melbourne. The first
:09:13. > :09:16.woman to become the Olympic double spread champion since Flo Jo is down
:09:17. > :09:21.there and waiting in the commentary box is Steve Backley, Colin Jackson
:09:22. > :09:24.and Andrew Cotter, good afternoon to you, all.
:09:25. > :09:43.Good afternoon, a very good starter, two very strong Jamaicans outside
:09:44. > :09:49.Madiea Ghafoor. Christania Williams, has run 7.0 5/60 metres outdoors in
:09:50. > :09:54.Kingston this season. Elaine Thompson also ran in Kingston, the
:09:55. > :10:02.double Olympic champion and winner over 102 metres in Rio. The first 30
:10:03. > :10:06.metres is not the best and she wants to improve that, Asha Philip
:10:07. > :10:11.certainly has a good 30 metres and has strength is indoors and she has
:10:12. > :10:16.a great record indoors, successfully defending her UK indoors title last
:10:17. > :10:22.week. Alongside her, three to go through to the final and she has two
:10:23. > :10:27.Jamaicans inside. The Norwegian in very good shape and getting quicker
:10:28. > :10:37.with every race, Ezinne Okparaebo, down to 7.1 three. A first race of
:10:38. > :10:41.the season for Britain's youngest athletics medallist in Rio, Daryll
:10:42. > :10:48.Neita. And younger still, both these women 20, shall hold some -- Shannon
:10:49. > :10:54.Hylton second behind Asha Philip last week, needs to get the
:10:55. > :10:57.qualifying standard of 7.25 to guarantee her place in Belgrade
:10:58. > :11:03.after finishing in the top two in the trials. Three themes this
:11:04. > :11:09.afternoon. The titles on the day of four grabs, some chasing the world
:11:10. > :11:13.indoor tour title over two events and then we have those British
:11:14. > :11:22.athletes looking to secure location for Belgrade, for the European
:11:23. > :11:32.indoors. Shannon Hylton, on the outside. Three to go through
:11:33. > :11:37.automatically. And away they go cleanly and as expected, it is
:11:38. > :11:41.Williams and Elaine Thompson, Elaine Thompson will take this, she just
:11:42. > :11:49.powered down a little bit and I think Christania Williams got second
:11:50. > :11:53.and tight between Philip and Ezinne Okparaebo, three to go through and
:11:54. > :11:56.two fastest losers, but Elaine Thompson says has start is not the
:11:57. > :12:00.greatest, she had that middle part of the race which did enough for
:12:01. > :12:05.her, able to ease down across the line, but very tight behind her for
:12:06. > :12:09.the other places. This is exactly what we like about indoor running.
:12:10. > :12:15.They are very close, very tight. People who do not focus on the
:12:16. > :12:22.outdoors do quite well in doors always. This is a level of for me.
:12:23. > :12:26.Once Elaine reached the 35-metre mark, she could ease down and she
:12:27. > :12:32.was going through the motions. Look how tight it is coming through to
:12:33. > :12:36.the line. I think Asha Philip came through ahead of Okparaebo and
:12:37. > :12:40.finishing quite strong Greek which is encouraging, but when Elaine
:12:41. > :12:46.Thompson gets going, a beautiful and powerful runner. Yes, absolutely
:12:47. > :12:50.lovely, beautiful form, holds it all together. Look how relaxed she
:12:51. > :12:54.looks, she looks like a champion, Elaine. Beautiful, smooth and
:12:55. > :12:57.looking forward to that final already.
:12:58. > :13:03.Asha Philip has gone through along with Elaine Thompson and Chrishuna
:13:04. > :13:07.Williams, Elaine Thompson talking to Bill Jones.
:13:08. > :13:11.Double Olympic champion delighting the crowd in Birmingham, you said
:13:12. > :13:15.you wanted to see how you were at this stage in the season, how would
:13:16. > :13:21.you assess that? First time in Birmingham. I had to execute and
:13:22. > :13:25.advance to the final. How comfortable did it feel because it
:13:26. > :13:29.looks so easy? It felt pretty comfortable. I just tried my best to
:13:30. > :13:33.get my first five strides and take it from there. Tell me about how
:13:34. > :13:39.life has changed from last year to this point for you. My life has been
:13:40. > :13:44.changed because my responsibility and duties and all that. I it take
:13:45. > :13:50.step-by-step. For the final, what can we expect timewise to get your
:13:51. > :13:53.personal best down? Next is the final, which speaks for itself. We
:13:54. > :13:59.wish you well for the final, thank you.
:14:00. > :14:02.Thank you. Elaine Thompson said over her winter training she really
:14:03. > :14:06.wanted to work on her first 30 metres and it was not the strongest
:14:07. > :14:10.part of her race, which is some admission from the double Olympic
:14:11. > :14:15.sprint Queen, but did you see signs because I imagine indoors is very
:14:16. > :14:19.good. Indoors should be very good but for her, it is difficult to see
:14:20. > :14:22.from that race because she which early did to ten metres and she just
:14:23. > :14:28.started shutting down her technique because she is that good, head and
:14:29. > :14:31.shoulders above everybody else in that field. I have been incredibly
:14:32. > :14:39.impressed by her composure and her attitude. She is the best we will
:14:40. > :14:43.see for the next couple of years. Effortless simplicity of running.
:14:44. > :14:47.You cannot see anything, she is not giving anything away. It is so
:14:48. > :14:51.important to stay central in her line which she does do and keep
:14:52. > :14:58.driving forward. At this point, head is going to go up slightly and she
:14:59. > :15:04.is just bloating. A lot later than the head of Asha Philip who came up
:15:05. > :15:09.much sooner. She is still working on her indoor technique and she is
:15:10. > :15:15.coming back into fitness, in the form, but Elaine is coming off a
:15:16. > :15:17.great outdoor season. Such a shame British champion and record holder
:15:18. > :15:23.Dina Asher-Smith could not face Elaine Thompson here, she has had a
:15:24. > :15:26.strong winter's training and just yesterday, she fractured her for it
:15:27. > :15:33.and you can see the tweet yesterday afternoon.
:15:34. > :15:40.Well, Denise, how often do things like this happen in training? It's
:15:41. > :15:44.very rare, isn't it? It's rare but it is sport. These injuries do
:15:45. > :15:51.happen and that is a significant one for Dina. She's pretty philosophical
:15:52. > :15:55.about it. You know, she would have been much more upset had it happened
:15:56. > :16:00.in May. Let's face it, she's still got time to recover. But a bitter
:16:01. > :16:06.blow for her in the indoor season. She said, I'm always the little one,
:16:07. > :16:10.I need to be stronger physically. So to see the fruits of those labours
:16:11. > :16:14.here would have been great. She's still very young. Most of the
:16:15. > :16:19.athletes come into their prime, especially sprinters, later in their
:16:20. > :16:25.20s. She knows she has do take a stepping stone. Putting on a bit
:16:26. > :16:29.more size is part of it but she's going to have to be patient now and
:16:30. > :16:34.it is a word that athletes hate. She put out a tweet today, saying she
:16:35. > :16:38.was even more focused to come back stronger. Another one we were
:16:39. > :16:42.looking to see today is Katarina Johnson-Thompson. She has got a
:16:43. > :16:49.slight niggle. She was going to do the long jump here. I know you have
:16:50. > :16:53.been in contact with her and it's a hamstring injury. How worried will
:16:54. > :16:58.she be about that? It was a precaution. She felt something and
:16:59. > :17:01.she said, you know what, I think I have to get this checked out. The
:17:02. > :17:08.medical team have looked at it and said I think it's best to miss this.
:17:09. > :17:18.But she still has ambitions to be at those European Championships. So far
:17:19. > :17:21.briefly, things are going very well for her and no regrets about
:17:22. > :17:28.changing her training session, now in France? No, it is a big lifestyle
:17:29. > :17:32.change but it shows how bold she is and how much more she has yet to
:17:33. > :17:40.accomplish in the sport. Making that decision to leave her coach was key.
:17:41. > :17:44.Athletes need to be having fun and we saw that with Katarina
:17:45. > :17:48.Johnson-Thompson. Let's see how the rest of the season goes. Thank you
:17:49. > :17:52.very much, Denise. Let's catch up with the full results with Andrew
:17:53. > :18:01.Cotter. COMMENTATOR: It wasn't the quickest
:18:02. > :18:07.one, but Elaine Thompson going through along with this darn near
:18:08. > :18:14.Williams -- with Christiania Williams.
:18:15. > :18:25.So, heat two, out there and ready to go, just about, just taken their
:18:26. > :18:28.tracksuits off. The world champion in front of the home crowd last
:18:29. > :18:35.year, she had a scintillating season indoors. Didn't really carry that
:18:36. > :18:42.indoors, which is probably the story in terms of her career. Jodie
:18:43. > :19:02.Williams is in here. There is Chambers, who as I said,
:19:03. > :19:09.will be in her main event later. A bit of a warm up for the 400. Jodie
:19:10. > :19:13.Williams next to her, now based in the USA, apparently things going
:19:14. > :19:17.very well for her. The first indoor race of the season. Come from the
:19:18. > :19:24.sunshine of Arizona. She appears to be back in -- she is back in
:19:25. > :19:28.slightly chilly Birmingham today. Gayon Evans, a bit of a stop start
:19:29. > :19:33.career for the 27-year-old from Jamaica. But a very good 2017 so
:19:34. > :19:43.far. She had a good year last year outdoors. Pierre, such a good
:19:44. > :19:52.starter, compact, typical 60 metre runner. Lekeisha Lawson, the
:19:53. > :19:57.29-year-old from the United States. She won in Ireland on Wednesday
:19:58. > :20:04.night. Not a great field on that occasion but she got the win. 7.20,
:20:05. > :20:20.her season's best. Jessica Warren, another young American. 7.20 two.
:20:21. > :20:32.Ran pretty well in Ostrava. Rosangela Santos Brazil, she goes in
:20:33. > :20:40.seven. DD Chand -- Dutee Chand of India in lane eight. Just to remind
:20:41. > :20:48.you, the top three, Thomson, Williams and Asha Philip going
:20:49. > :20:52.through. Two fastest loser's spot available.
:20:53. > :21:01.Quickest in the world this year, incidentally, Hannah Cundy from the
:21:02. > :21:07.United States, that was a collegiate record she ran. Barbara Pierre might
:21:08. > :21:15.just have her sites laid on that sort of time this afternoon. That
:21:16. > :21:19.would be quick. Pierre in four. Good start but Evans gets out really
:21:20. > :21:26.well! Tied for third spot and it may well have been Santos to get third
:21:27. > :21:36.and she falls! Just trips up. I hope she is all right. She looks a little
:21:37. > :21:41.shaken. Hopefully she is OK, because for my money, she definitely came
:21:42. > :21:46.third there. Evans got a great start and looked a little lethargic for
:21:47. > :21:51.me, coming out of the blocks. We will check on her first, let's just
:21:52. > :21:59.deal with the race. I was really looking forward to watching Evans
:22:00. > :22:02.run. First time on the indoor track she ended up winning that
:22:03. > :22:09.competition. Coming here she is a bit more experienced. She took
:22:10. > :22:13.control of the race very early on and didn't cruise, didn't go into
:22:14. > :22:17.cruise mode, kept pushing all the way which means you put a lock of
:22:18. > :22:22.stress on the people behind you. Just talk about Pierre, she looked a
:22:23. > :22:27.bit ragged and off-balance. Absolutely, she stumbles coming out
:22:28. > :22:31.of the blocks. She could never get into that drive phase which is
:22:32. > :22:39.necessary indoors. She lost a lot of metres early on. I'm pretty sure she
:22:40. > :22:42.will nail it in the final. She's definitely through, so let's see
:22:43. > :22:47.what happens. Over on the far side in the green, then toss of Brazil
:22:48. > :22:52.just checks out, she has come third and then she just trips and slides
:22:53. > :22:56.into the hoardings. I can tell you she is being helped away by the
:22:57. > :23:01.medical staff. Looks as though she is walking a little bit gingerly, to
:23:02. > :23:05.me. She's smiling, which is great. I'm not sure whether she will be
:23:06. > :23:10.able to compete in the final, but we will see. Barbara Pierre finished
:23:11. > :23:16.second in the final and she is with Phil Mackreth.
:23:17. > :23:22.Having watched it back, you've still got a few things do work on for the
:23:23. > :23:28.final? Oh my god, I'm surprised I recovered! It goes with the
:23:29. > :23:33.territory. There's not that much to fix but I just stumbled, so I have
:23:34. > :23:37.to get out of it. A good one to get out of the way in the hit at least.
:23:38. > :23:41.We know you are the world indoor champion so you can do well in the
:23:42. > :23:45.final. Even though I struggled for the longest time, I stayed in my
:23:46. > :23:49.zone because I want to make it back and that is the most important
:23:50. > :23:55.thing, me getting back to the final. Then anything goes. We saw you on
:23:56. > :23:57.top of the world last year in this event and you have got Elaine
:23:58. > :24:02.Thompson now and you are going head-to-head in the final. I love
:24:03. > :24:07.all competition. This is what we do. I like it, it drives me. It brings
:24:08. > :24:12.out the best in everybody. Hopefully I will just try and get an OK time.
:24:13. > :24:18.She'd post me to get a great time, so I look forward to it. Thank you!
:24:19. > :24:22.-- she pushed me to get a great time.
:24:23. > :24:28.Well, she's not lacking any enthusiasm. I really look forward to
:24:29. > :24:41.that because Evans was really impressive there. I think that's
:24:42. > :24:47.going to mean that Ezinne Okparaebo and another will go through to the
:24:48. > :24:50.final as the fastest losers. The women's pole vaulters are out and
:24:51. > :24:56.introduced to the crowd. Here is the start list, the eight athletes
:24:57. > :25:00.contesting that competition are just about to start in a few moments's
:25:01. > :25:07.time. British interest in Sally Peake and Jade Ive. Watch out for
:25:08. > :25:14.Minna Nikkanen, the 18-year-old world junior record holder. Katerina
:25:15. > :25:20.Stefanidi, there she is, the Olympic champion from Rio 2016. The fourth
:25:21. > :25:25.best ever. Huge favourite, she will be tough to beat here this
:25:26. > :25:30.afternoon. The women's shop but was concluded before we came on air.
:25:31. > :25:37.Rachel Wallace and Britain, our finest shot-putter, she continued a
:25:38. > :25:42.fine run of form. -- Rachel Wallander. UK champion last weekend.
:25:43. > :25:53.A smile from her, that was enough for third place. Second in this
:25:54. > :25:58.competition, Melissa Boekelman of the Netherlands. Getting close to
:25:59. > :26:12.that 18 metre line. 17.35, just ahead of Rachel Wallander. But it
:26:13. > :26:16.was all about Anita Marton of Hungary. She took the lead a couple
:26:17. > :26:24.of times and then extended it way beyond 18 metres. In fact that was
:26:25. > :26:30.18.97. A big season's best. She backed it up with another 18 metre
:26:31. > :26:33.throw in the last round. Anita Marton of Hungary a winner this
:26:34. > :26:37.afternoon and crowned the IAAF indoor tour champion.
:26:38. > :26:44.Next up on the track, it is the women's 60 metre hurdles and Sally
:26:45. > :26:48.Pearson from Australia there will be a site that many athletics fans will
:26:49. > :26:53.be delighted to see. She was the Olympic champion from London and
:26:54. > :26:58.twice world indoor champion as well, but she had a terrible time in the
:26:59. > :27:02.last couple of seasons. She broke her wrist and last year was getting
:27:03. > :27:07.back to her best and had another injury. She is back, she has done a
:27:08. > :27:12.winter's training and it will be interesting to see what kind of form
:27:13. > :27:17.she is in. The interesting thing for athletes when they have such
:27:18. > :27:20.setbacks, nasty setbacks, she is bitterly disappointed, it is
:27:21. > :27:24.confidence. She's had to build that up as much as the training. It is
:27:25. > :27:30.good to see her back and it would be good to see how she gets on here.
:27:31. > :27:34.Hamstring injury for her last year. She is back and self coached now,
:27:35. > :27:37.and Andrew Cotter will talk you through this one.
:27:38. > :27:41.COMMENTATOR: As you say, very good to seek Sally Pearson back running
:27:42. > :27:53.and running well. She will face strong on petition from Sherry Canal
:27:54. > :28:16.A couple of Americans involved here, Tiffani McReynolds goes, eight
:28:17. > :28:25.seconds flat is her best this season. There are those less
:28:26. > :28:36.experienced indoors. Megan Simmonds of Jamaica. 12.70 9/100 metre
:28:37. > :28:40.hurdles. Jacqueline Coward of the United States, she has been running
:28:41. > :28:52.a good deal on the indoor circuit and was fourth in midweek in a
:28:53. > :28:59.high-quality race in Ireland. Isabelle Pedersen, high-quality
:29:00. > :29:02.competitor from Norway. She has won it all and there will be a good deal
:29:03. > :29:10.of noise for Sally Pearson inside this arena. Very popular athlete.
:29:11. > :29:14.Hamstring injury in the build-up to the Olympics which ruled her out.
:29:15. > :29:17.But she has been running well. She has had a couple of tough tussles
:29:18. > :29:31.with Sharika Nelvis. Sharika Nelvis lost out to Manning, another
:29:32. > :29:34.American who goes in the next hit. Phylicia George had a good run
:29:35. > :29:44.recently when she beat Sharika Nelvis. There is Molly Courtney, the
:29:45. > :29:50.19-year-old. A big talent, Mollie Courtney. The first of two heats in
:29:51. > :29:54.the women's 60 metre hurdles. As with the 60 flat, three go through
:29:55. > :30:05.automatically plus the two fastest losers. So, Reynolds of the United
:30:06. > :30:08.States, Sally Pearson goes in lane five, Sharika Nelvis in Lane six and
:30:09. > :30:25.Mollie Courtney in lane eight. Pearson with Sharika Nelvis outside
:30:26. > :30:32.her. Three to go through automatically. Very good start by
:30:33. > :30:37.Sally Pearson. A bit of trouble from Sharika Nelvis! Sharika Nelvis
:30:38. > :30:43.coming through to take it from Sally Pearson, just.
:30:44. > :30:50.Jackie Coward in third place, but Sharika Nelvis, the first half of
:30:51. > :30:54.the race did not go very well and she composed herself and got going
:30:55. > :30:58.and she had a good speed, we talked about her speed on the flat and
:30:59. > :31:03.Sally Pearson could not live with her in the second half of the race,
:31:04. > :31:07.Sharika Nelvis. A good winner and the only woman to go below eight
:31:08. > :31:15.seconds. A good start from Sally Pearson. Yes, the new, indoors,
:31:16. > :31:19.Simmonds got a good start on the outside, did she hang on for bird? I
:31:20. > :31:25.think she was run out by Jacquelin Coward. It is that little stumble
:31:26. > :31:31.which is spotted, Andrew, Pearson looking good and smooth, not that
:31:32. > :31:36.quick, given the competitive nature, 20 women have gone under eight
:31:37. > :31:41.seconds this year. Running ground about eight seconds and Sharika
:31:42. > :31:46.Nelvis has dipped under. Very tight for bird so Simmonds will have to
:31:47. > :31:51.wait, a personal best for her, her first time indoors. Watch this
:31:52. > :31:55.stumble from Sharika Nelvis, not a stumble, it is not driving out
:31:56. > :32:02.properly. And she found herself half a metre down. I've think it is going
:32:03. > :32:07.to be a cracking race for the final in the next race, we have got
:32:08. > :32:11.Christina Manning and talk about people coming back, Susanna Kallur,
:32:12. > :32:18.Pearson and Nelvis have gone through and Sally is with Phil.
:32:19. > :32:25.Sally, what a great sign to see you back competing close to your best. I
:32:26. > :32:29.know there is still a way to go to get to the top, but you must be
:32:30. > :32:36.delighted the way it is going. Yes and no. There seems to be brushed it
:32:37. > :32:40.seems to be normal for me to run in the heats the web than the final. I
:32:41. > :32:45.am putting myself so it is difficult to try and put the rational coach
:32:46. > :32:52.had on with the irrational athlete hat. I had a really good start and
:32:53. > :32:58.it is starting, I got it and pieces, I just have to put them together in
:32:59. > :33:03.one race and it is Febery. We have the Australian season but the World
:33:04. > :33:07.Championships in August, and we have to get it right then. Light years
:33:08. > :33:13.away from what you put up with last year, the injury and how it set you
:33:14. > :33:18.back, how satisfying is that? I have four injuries in 18 months and they
:33:19. > :33:22.were very serious. It took me to a dark place mentally, but I had
:33:23. > :33:26.support around me, I have the right support around me now. I get
:33:27. > :33:32.frustrated at times because I am still competitive, but that was a
:33:33. > :33:39.good sign my statistics are coming back to where I like them. Great to
:33:40. > :33:44.see you here, see you in the final. Yes, see you.
:33:45. > :33:48.Confirmation, three go through automatically, they are Sharika
:33:49. > :33:56.Nelvis, Sally Pearson and Jacquelin Coward, Sally Pearson with a
:33:57. > :34:01.personal best running indoors. Phylicia George wait to see the
:34:02. > :34:12.times in the next race. Now it is the man's Long Jump, a first attempt
:34:13. > :34:18.here for Tyrone Smith. It is good. He hit the board well. Has competed
:34:19. > :34:25.yet this year, has a lifetime of seven point 82 indoors, his friends
:34:26. > :34:31.call him X because of his skinny legs, it seems a bit harsh, but on
:34:32. > :34:37.the runway and good on the board, not a lot wrong with that. Opening
:34:38. > :34:46.jump of the competition. Close to eight metres. In fact, it it is
:34:47. > :34:55.7.83. It is a lifetime best in the opening round, a national record for
:34:56. > :34:58.Tyrone Smith. Silver-medallist from 2008, Godfrey
:34:59. > :35:03.Mokoena, concentrating on Triple Jump since then. Competed here in
:35:04. > :35:09.the Long Jump very quick, he did decelerate slightly maybe. That is
:35:10. > :35:16.shy of eight metres, that is the magic mark. When you think about
:35:17. > :35:21.world-class long jumping, he just shortened and slowed, you could see
:35:22. > :35:29.that in slow motion. Long legs and he got too close to the board and he
:35:30. > :35:35.had to far to go. Very accomplished South African, 31 years of age,
:35:36. > :35:39.Mokoena. Offering words of advice. Second place so far.
:35:40. > :35:48.This is the Olympic champion Geoffrey Henderson who won in Rio in
:35:49. > :35:52.dramatic form in the last round, this is the opening round in
:35:53. > :35:55.Birmingham. Really quick on the approach. You may be could not
:35:56. > :35:59.handle it. He did not seem to have much height and that shake of the
:36:00. > :36:05.head gives away what he thinks about it. The 27-year-old, after a
:36:06. > :36:11.disappointing World Championship in 2015 when he was one of the
:36:12. > :36:15.favourites and he made a mess of that, but very much made up for it
:36:16. > :36:20.in taking the gold medal, the biggest prize in sport in Rio. Did
:36:21. > :36:25.not get the height of that and is chasing the lead of Smith. Simply 72
:36:26. > :36:35.and Jeff Henderson goes into second place. -- it is 7.7 two. Still a
:36:36. > :36:42.very competitive event here, this world tour event in Birmingham. This
:36:43. > :36:49.is another tough heat, from Great Britain, we have got Marilyn
:36:50. > :36:59.Nwawulor. Jasmin Stowers, any one of these could go through. So top
:37:00. > :37:04.three, and in this race, we have got two or three of the fastest women in
:37:05. > :37:12.the world. From Harrow, Marilyn Nwawulor, 24, with a new personal
:37:13. > :37:16.best of 8.20, disqualified last week at the British Championships for a
:37:17. > :37:22.false start. Raven Clay alongside her. And her new personal best this
:37:23. > :37:25.year is 8.0 nine. Eight seconds is the benchmark, this is the lady who
:37:26. > :37:34.still holds the world record for this event, back to 2008, a long
:37:35. > :37:41.comeback Trail and she is getting closer, Susanna Kallur, the former
:37:42. > :37:44.two time European champion. Anne Zagre, of Belgium, under eight
:37:45. > :37:51.seconds for the first time in her last race, 7.98, Olympic
:37:52. > :37:57.semifinalist. Christina Manning. Only Kellie Harrison has gone
:37:58. > :38:00.quicker indoors this year, 7.82, new personal best for her, winning in
:38:01. > :38:09.Athlone in Ireland on Wednesday. European champion outdoors and
:38:10. > :38:15.indoors, Alina Talay. 7.94 this year. And Jasmin Stowers, two great
:38:16. > :38:19.seasons, particularly outdoors 2015, very fast times and did not make
:38:20. > :38:28.either of the American teams for the world or the Olympic Games. And from
:38:29. > :38:34.Sweden in lane eight, Maja Rogemyr. So this is tough to get in the top
:38:35. > :38:44.three. Manning in lane five in the blue. A real threat at the European
:38:45. > :38:52.Championships in Belgrade is Alina Talay. In Germany, you already have
:38:53. > :38:57.a couple of women under 7.9. It might be the German Championships
:38:58. > :39:06.this weekend, actually. And Jasmin Stowers, 7.994 heard this year. --
:39:07. > :39:13.7.99, four heard this year. The form this year says it should be manning.
:39:14. > :39:23.She has been under eight seconds ten times already this year in heats and
:39:24. > :39:29.finals. So she is in five, next to her is Anne Zagre and in lane three,
:39:30. > :39:37.Susanna Kallur. Manning gets a great start, stars is right in less and
:39:38. > :39:44.Talay coming back, Manning and perhaps Alina Talay and very close,
:39:45. > :39:47.Anne Zagre. Much quicker than the first semifinal, a great start from
:39:48. > :39:51.Manning, showing the form she has been then, Talay did strongly at the
:39:52. > :39:53.end, just about getting second place. I think she will be tough to
:39:54. > :40:03.beat in the final, Manning. That is a technique, when you go
:40:04. > :40:09.down into the box and I need Paula's advice, is that it only tie will or
:40:10. > :40:15.is it Platts? A plaque and a ponytail. Thank you. That is a
:40:16. > :40:22.technique. Where does that go when you go into the box? Why did you not
:40:23. > :40:27.ask me for the definition? You can see how good she is at 60-metre
:40:28. > :40:33.hurdles, the others were a long way behind chasing her down, such a good
:40:34. > :40:38.start. Christina Manning certainly going to be the one to beat and very
:40:39. > :40:40.tight behind her. We will get confirmation of it, but looking down
:40:41. > :40:44.overhead, difficult to separate them.
:40:45. > :40:54.It is like a helicopter rota above her head, maybe giving her down.
:40:55. > :41:02.Incredible. A great start. Only Harrison has gone quicker. When you
:41:03. > :41:07.start running 7.8 and under eight seconds ten times already, that is
:41:08. > :41:12.the 11th time, Harrison might have something to think about. Again, she
:41:13. > :41:20.had a good start to her career and it stalled since 2012, but a good
:41:21. > :41:22.indoor season so far. She won in it, Talay and Jasmin Stowers in second
:41:23. > :41:32.and third, and Kallur is with Phil. One of the great comeback stories of
:41:33. > :41:36.athletics come have been through so much injury wise and took time off
:41:37. > :41:41.to have a baby, close to eight seconds, how is it to be competing
:41:42. > :41:45.like this? It is so much fun, much more fun than before actually. Is
:41:46. > :41:50.that part of the idea, you thought you had not done all you wanted and
:41:51. > :41:56.you had not got the full enjoyment out of the sport? Yes, my injury
:41:57. > :42:05.came in 2008 and I had my injury while I broke the world record. So I
:42:06. > :42:08.was like at my peak. And just down to the basement. So I was really
:42:09. > :42:19.hungry to just keep going a little bit. It felt like I had found the
:42:20. > :42:25.key to great hurdling. So that is what kept me going. I think it is
:42:26. > :42:29.eight years now. What do you think is still left within you to achieve
:42:30. > :42:33.in the sport? I don't know, my leg is still bothering me a little bit.
:42:34. > :42:41.I cannot practice the way I would like. It is just so much fun just to
:42:42. > :42:45.be able to compete a little bit again. It is great to see you back
:42:46. > :42:50.and we wish you well going forward the rest of the season.
:42:51. > :42:55.Thank you so much. Still to come, the fashion with the
:42:56. > :43:01.men's 60-metre heats from 2:30 p.m.. And a British head-to-head, it is
:43:02. > :43:07.Lorraine Ugen and singing star Jazmin Sawyers who battle it out in
:43:08. > :43:12.the Long Jump. Eilidh Doyle is taking on the 400 meals has and the
:43:13. > :43:21.Nielsen twins. Andrew Pozzi take some former Olympic gold-medallist
:43:22. > :43:26.Aries Merritt. Laura Muir looks to add another record to her collection
:43:27. > :43:31.in the 1,000 metres. And Mo Farah looking to get back to winning ways
:43:32. > :43:36.in the 5000m, must ever invent on the indoor track. Plenty of gold
:43:37. > :43:38.medals outdoors, five in the World Championships, and we look forward
:43:39. > :43:45.to this year's athletics Championships in London in August --
:43:46. > :43:52.it is his last ever invent on the indoor track. Usain Bolt, he has
:43:53. > :44:01.done it! It is a new British record! It is a mammoth jump. A new world
:44:02. > :44:10.record! Sophie Hitchon, what an effort! Elaine Thompson has Olympic
:44:11. > :44:16.gold! Huge! The new British record! Rudisha is going to win the world
:44:17. > :44:20.title. A beautiful jump! Laura Muir now, she has smashed the British
:44:21. > :44:27.record. Mo Farah wins the gold!
:44:28. > :44:33.And it is only six months away now, it is so exciting, the World
:44:34. > :44:37.Championships in London, in the Olympic Stadium, evoking the
:44:38. > :44:39.memories of 2012. When we walked out of that stadium in 2012, and
:44:40. > :44:45.remember thinking, the world is here. That felt like for ever awake
:44:46. > :44:50.and we are now seeing this new crop of athletes and this year will be an
:44:51. > :44:54.interesting transitional year post-Olympics. That is the point, we
:44:55. > :44:58.have had phenomenal athletes coming through the last decade but what
:44:59. > :45:02.does the future look like? I think it looks bright. On the global stage
:45:03. > :45:06.cannot always going to have fantastic athletes but from
:45:07. > :45:09.Britain's perspective, we have young, bright, energetic,
:45:10. > :45:14.enthusiastic athletes that understand the opportunities this
:45:15. > :45:20.year presents and not just 2017, but 28 team, the world indoors, back in
:45:21. > :45:25.Birmingham again. And the British Isles are so knowledgeable and they
:45:26. > :45:26.love the sport and fall the athletes, it is a really good time
:45:27. > :45:37.to be in the sport. The indoor Championships in
:45:38. > :45:42.Birmingham, it's a really good opportunity for the athletes to
:45:43. > :45:51.become household names and cement themselves in the hearts and minds
:45:52. > :45:54.of British fans. It is about getting out there and making sure you're
:45:55. > :46:00.healthy and showing what athletics means to the British public. Now it
:46:01. > :46:04.is the 3000 metres on the track and if you British women here, Andrew
:46:05. > :46:06.Cotter, who have already got their places are cured?
:46:07. > :46:13.COMMENTATOR: Yes indeed, and Eilish McColgan has got a place secured in
:46:14. > :46:18.two different events. We will look at the line-up for the 3000 in just
:46:19. > :46:21.a moment, but just to clarify the previous race. A winning time for
:46:22. > :46:37.Christina Manning of 7.94. Well, the 3000 metres in the UK
:46:38. > :46:43.Indoors last week was a very good race, Eilish McColgan just holding
:46:44. > :46:47.off her opponent, both are involved here, but a step up in the calibre
:46:48. > :47:03.of opposition. A look at the line-up. Sophie and now we and Meraf
:47:04. > :47:08.Bahta run for Poland and Sweden. Winny Chebet is the pacemaker. This
:47:09. > :47:14.is a line-up of the highest quality, really good competition for Eilish
:47:15. > :47:23.McColgan and Stephanie Twell, they will be trying to hang on, I think.
:47:24. > :47:28.Winny Chebet is the pacemaker. Sifan Hassan is a wonderful runner to
:47:29. > :47:32.watch because she just hangs back and then times her kick from the
:47:33. > :47:41.back of the field always. It's interesting to try to pick a winner
:47:42. > :47:50.here, Paula. It is. I think we're definitely... She was beaten
:47:51. > :47:58.convincingly by Laura Muir last week. Now training with Shannon
:47:59. > :48:08.Rowbury. A former steeplechase runner now, Eilish McColgan, who has
:48:09. > :48:16.run very well indeed. Jeremy Lane -- Genevieve LaCaze is a steeplechase
:48:17. > :48:21.as well. Stephanie Twell, she has had problems with degrees in the
:48:22. > :48:33.park. There is the Swedish athlete, Meraf Bahta. As you said, the
:48:34. > :48:43.youngster, the 18-year-old, another great talent, and the Maracana fleet
:48:44. > :48:54.on the inside. We have a pacemaker who has been asked to take them out
:48:55. > :49:01.to 2000 metres in 2.50 -- 1000 metres in 2.50. Eilish McColgan has
:49:02. > :49:07.the standard. She qualified for two events in Belgrade. Laura Muir will
:49:08. > :49:11.be doubling up as well. I think the pacemaker is a little bit nervous as
:49:12. > :49:15.well, went out very quickly to be able to establish herself at the
:49:16. > :49:28.front of the field and they are working their way back. We will get
:49:29. > :49:31.an idea how close to the pace Winny Chebet is going. They seem to be
:49:32. > :49:37.going with it at the moment although it is slower than asked for. In the
:49:38. > :49:42.last 200 metres, Hellen Obiri couldn't keep pace and faded over
:49:43. > :49:46.the last 150, but still ran a Kenyan record along with Laura Muir, which
:49:47. > :49:52.shows the quality that Laura Muir is running out at the moment. She runs
:49:53. > :49:59.in the 5000 metres later on. Sifan Hassan is always dangerous. I think
:50:00. > :50:04.what's interesting, Sifan Hassan this year has moved coaches, she is
:50:05. > :50:08.over with Alberto Salazar and training with Shannon Rowbury in the
:50:09. > :50:12.Oregon Project team there. She's already showing big improvements in
:50:13. > :50:18.her racing but also the way that she runs races. Some of that is perhaps
:50:19. > :50:22.that influence due to hanging around at the back of the field and then
:50:23. > :50:27.moving through. She's now shown that she is areas here today from the
:50:28. > :50:30.beginning, getting right up there, and Shannon Rowbury is a team-mate
:50:31. > :50:34.sitting further back. Of the main contenders up there at the moment.
:50:35. > :50:50.Sifan Hassan is not too far away. The men's long jump competition
:50:51. > :50:55.continues, Ashley Bryant having a really good indoor season in the
:50:56. > :50:59.long jump. A foul in the first round, 7.42 in the second round.
:51:00. > :51:07.That looks a little better from Bryant. Last weekend he saw his
:51:08. > :51:16.team-mate Darren Bramble go slightly ahead of his best. So, runner up in
:51:17. > :51:28.the UK long jump championships. Just going slightly sideways at the end,
:51:29. > :51:33.there. That will have cost him some. Fifth place at the moment, 7.5
:51:34. > :51:44.seven. Here is Dan Bramble. UK champion last weekend. Well, that
:51:45. > :51:52.was similar. 59 was the opener. What is he saying, too flat? It's all
:51:53. > :51:55.about timing off the board. Quick on the approach. The athletes are
:51:56. > :52:03.struggling this afternoon, no one beyond eight metres. And Bramble did
:52:04. > :52:09.his best ever jump last year, eight point 14. That is what he can do
:52:10. > :52:15.when he is at his best. -- 8.14. Well, it is 7.57.
:52:16. > :52:21.Eilish McColgan had to work very hard to keep pace. A bit of a gap
:52:22. > :52:28.opening out. She is right at the back of that first group. Just a
:52:29. > :52:32.demonstration of how hard it is for the two British athletes to try to
:52:33. > :52:38.maintain contact. I think Eilish McColgan always does take time to
:52:39. > :52:44.wind into races. It was very quick in the early stages. Eilish now
:52:45. > :52:48.taking advantage of a little slackening of the pace to work our
:52:49. > :52:56.way back up. Having said that, they are stretching out again. You can
:52:57. > :53:05.see it beginning to stretch and the gaps are beginning to appear between
:53:06. > :53:10.the athletes. Genevieve Lacaze of Australia and Eilish McColgan
:53:11. > :53:16.beginning to lose contact with the other. Just a bit of daylight
:53:17. > :53:19.opening up, looking for Shannon Rowbury behind them but she is not
:53:20. > :53:26.really making any inroads on the front two. It is becoming a bit of a
:53:27. > :53:33.battle between these two now. I saw her just take a glance around to
:53:34. > :53:43.take a measure of who is with them. I thought she dropped out a little
:53:44. > :53:49.bit early, the pacemaker. Further back to those who are losing
:53:50. > :53:55.contact. There is a main peloton about 20 or 30 metres behind now. At
:53:56. > :54:00.the back of that, Eilish McColgan is just ahead, maintaining some contact
:54:01. > :54:11.with that main group. Helen Obiri with a little glance behind. The
:54:12. > :54:15.pace is consistent just over the mark. Hellen Obiri is doing
:54:16. > :54:19.everything she can to try to get rid of Sifan Hassan, may be Yeading rid
:54:20. > :54:23.of some of the mental scars from that race with Laura Muir last week
:54:24. > :54:32.and trying to make sure that Hassan has to work hard from a long way
:54:33. > :54:43.out. Hellen Obiri and Sifan Hassan the front two. Third place just
:54:44. > :54:48.beginning to lose the back two -- front two. This might be a very
:54:49. > :54:57.tight race between these two. If we see acceleration in this next 1000
:54:58. > :55:03.metres, they will go under a .30 -- under 8.30 and maybe challenge that
:55:04. > :55:06.world lead. Neither wants to challenge too much early but I would
:55:07. > :55:13.say Sifan Hassan definitely holds the upper card in terms of her
:55:14. > :55:17.finishing speed. Stephanie Twell is back in the group and Eilish
:55:18. > :55:24.McColgan is losing contact now. Hellen Obiri's head is starting to
:55:25. > :55:27.rock a bit now but Sifan Hassan is looking smooth and sitting on the
:55:28. > :55:31.shoulder, letting Hellen Obiri to all the work at the moment. The pace
:55:32. > :55:38.is brisk and it is relentless at the moment. We could be on for a sub
:55:39. > :55:43.8.30 time. Stephanie Twell running very, very well. Eilish McColgan
:55:44. > :55:48.trying to hang onto her. They are on for personal bests in this race if
:55:49. > :55:51.they can maintain this. It's not that they are running badly at all
:55:52. > :56:00.but these two out in front are a class apart. Hellen Obiri still
:56:01. > :56:04.leading just from Sifan Hassan. Sifan Hassan's slightly ungainly
:56:05. > :56:09.style with her arms but hanging on the shoulder, right behind Hellen
:56:10. > :56:13.Obiri. Hellen Obiri doing the hard graft and Hassan is in a very
:56:14. > :56:17.comfortable position here. Hellen Obiri for me is starting to look as
:56:18. > :56:22.though she doesn't believe that she can outkicked Sifan Hassan. Sifan
:56:23. > :56:25.Hassan is focused on the heels of Hellen Obiri in front of her,
:56:26. > :56:32.waiting and waiting until she launches that final attack. It has
:56:33. > :56:40.been tough and hard for her, the training, but she is feeling the
:56:41. > :56:45.benefits of it already. A group of seven athletes behind third-place
:56:46. > :56:48.and that is where we find Stephanie Twell and Eilish McColgan, just
:56:49. > :56:54.about encores for personal best. The bell sounds for these two and Sifan
:56:55. > :57:06.Hassan hits the front, 200 metres to go. Hassan can't quite break free
:57:07. > :57:11.and here comes Hellen Obiri now! A surge and Sifan Hassan responds! 150
:57:12. > :57:24.to go hand Hellen Obiri lengthens out that stride. Can she get inside
:57:25. > :57:28.8.30? She will, just about! The victory for Hellen Obiri. Sifan
:57:29. > :57:34.Hassan with a second surge. Eilish McColgan finishing very strongly,
:57:35. > :57:40.just about takes fourth place. Think of what might have been for Eilish
:57:41. > :57:44.McColgan, but it is a great time for McColgan, I think Steph Twell might
:57:45. > :57:49.have just about got her PB behind that as well. Great run from Eilish
:57:50. > :57:51.McColgan, but what a run from Hellen Obiri as well. Sifan Hassan did
:57:52. > :57:59.everything correctly but when she went past, she was not broken by
:58:00. > :58:04.seeing the Dutch athlete come past. That was impressive from Hellen
:58:05. > :58:08.Obiri in every way that she wasn't impressive in the race against Laura
:58:09. > :58:12.Muir. I just wonder if she learned some lessons from that race. She
:58:13. > :58:17.definitely kept something in the bag. I think she was maybe faking a
:58:18. > :58:22.little bit in terms of how tired she was going into that last lap. She
:58:23. > :58:25.allowed Sifan Hassan to come past a little bit early and Sifan Hassan
:58:26. > :58:29.didn't get enough of the gap quickly enough and Hellen Obiri just had
:58:30. > :58:36.eight years change left which she hadn't used left, whereas Sifan
:58:37. > :58:40.Hassan had used everything. It just knocked the wind out of the sails of
:58:41. > :58:44.Sifan Hassan down the back straight. Hellen Obiri had just changed gears
:58:45. > :58:49.and went up a level and was able to really move away and you can see
:58:50. > :58:53.just how much that victory meant to her today to be able to come back
:58:54. > :58:57.and avenge that beating that she got at the hands of Laura Muir. Not bad
:58:58. > :59:04.at all from Sifan Hassan and she broke the Dutch indoor record.
:59:05. > :59:13.Hellen Obiri was five hundredths of a second quicker than she ran losing
:59:14. > :59:16.to Laura Muir. A very good run from Eilish McColgan. Hellen Obiri, a win
:59:17. > :59:29.for the Kenyan athlete. Well, we joined the long jump,
:59:30. > :59:34.heading towards the halfway stage, Godfrey Mokoena of South Africa
:59:35. > :59:37.chasing down the league which is currently 7.83. And that is going to
:59:38. > :59:54.challenge it. Marco -- Godfrey Mokoena looks like he has
:59:55. > :00:02.finally woken up. His best so far, 7.72, way down on what he can do but
:00:03. > :00:09.that is a decent effort for Mokoena, the 31-year-old South African. Going
:00:10. > :00:19.to take the lead. It is 7.99, enough to go out in front. Across this
:00:20. > :00:23.tight field, the Finnish athlete takes her first attempt in this
:00:24. > :00:34.tough competition. The bar stays put. So clean sheets so far for her.
:00:35. > :00:40.Both Brits are out by the way, Sally Peake and Jade Ive unable to clear
:00:41. > :00:49.4.33, so a slight is a Bodman for them. Not to be involved. Minna
:00:50. > :00:55.Nikkanen continues with a perfect start so far.
:00:56. > :01:01.Megan Clarke, of the United States, 29 years of age, she is carrying
:01:02. > :01:09.some ever is -- errors at the previous heights. Looking to go
:01:10. > :01:17.clear at this new height of 4.4 three. Oh, yes. So she joins
:01:18. > :01:25.Nikkanen and the competition heats up. Still waiting for the Olympic
:01:26. > :01:29.champion Katerina Stefanidi to join the competition, she has not jumped
:01:30. > :01:31.yet, keeping her powder dry and Goode clearance there for Megan
:01:32. > :01:49.Clark. And she is in second place. Joining us now in the bowels of the
:01:50. > :01:56.stadium, look who we found! Mo Farah! I just walked in with my wet
:01:57. > :02:01.spikes! You look very relaxed, how are you? Good, thank you. This place
:02:02. > :02:05.is fascinating, everybody is warming up, a larger space than we are used
:02:06. > :02:09.to seeing, what will you do now? Sit down and listen to music and
:02:10. > :02:20.maybe dry my spikes a bit. They have got wet. How did they get wet? I put
:02:21. > :02:24.in a bottle of water and it was not closed. How do you feel? I feel
:02:25. > :02:30.compete. You will be competing for the last time indoors. My last track
:02:31. > :02:33.race indoors. It will be a year of that for you, a lot of goodbyes.
:02:34. > :02:39.Hopefully, it will be slightly better than Edinburgh. It will be!
:02:40. > :02:42.We hope so as well! He seems relaxed. He is doing really well and
:02:43. > :02:47.he seems comfortable and confident so good to see him in the shape.
:02:48. > :02:52.Before he came along, he literally just walked him, this place here is
:02:53. > :02:59.bigger than we are used to seeing athletics tracks for a warm up area,
:03:00. > :03:04.there is a pungent smell of Tiger Balm and Deeper Heat. It is
:03:05. > :03:11.intoxicating. It amazes me how quick people are warming up. Look, here we
:03:12. > :03:15.go, putting pacing behind us. It is preparation, and you hit the nail on
:03:16. > :03:19.the head, this is an exceptional facility for indoor athletics and
:03:20. > :03:25.that is why Birmingham is so successful because the athletes can
:03:26. > :03:28.warm up correctly. You can do your hurdles, set up on their own,
:03:29. > :03:34.individually, which you can't normally do. You can certainly
:03:35. > :03:40.appreciate the amount of space you get, even compared to doing your
:03:41. > :03:44.heptathlon outdoors, Denise. Completely, indoors, everybody is on
:03:45. > :03:48.top of each other, you have no room come you have to make sure the area
:03:49. > :03:52.is safe. You have great space, the hurdles have been set out, the
:03:53. > :03:57.sprinters can do their thing, the distance athletes can jog around the
:03:58. > :04:00.perimeter, fantastic. We just saw some tours who went underneath where
:04:01. > :04:08.the photographers were and she looked fine, she was doing some
:04:09. > :04:14.strides and she looked fine -- Rosangela Santos. And we saw Jazmin
:04:15. > :04:20.Sawyers. Very relaxed. But we have got to go out to the track for the
:04:21. > :04:24.400m next, the men's 400m, Andrew Cotter and Steve Cram.
:04:25. > :04:36.A good line up for the 400m, and interest rates developing here.
:04:37. > :04:41.Jarryd Dunn. British athletes on the inside two lanes. Looking for their
:04:42. > :04:48.qualifier to get the Belgrade. Sebastian Rodger on the inside. Both
:04:49. > :04:54.he and Dunn will be required for Belgrade for the 4x400. And to
:04:55. > :05:01.mention for Nigel Levine who won this every year from 2090 2015 but
:05:02. > :05:07.had a dreadful injury and terrible accident with James Ellington but a
:05:08. > :05:13.long road to recovery. So that is the line-up. And the master of the
:05:14. > :05:19.indoors is Pavel Maslak, but he has had to give second best in the last
:05:20. > :05:29.two races to Bralon Taplin, but he did beat him before that in
:05:30. > :05:35.Dusseldorf. Also, Luguelin Santos. Straight final of the men's 400m.
:05:36. > :05:45.And the they go. It is Sebastian Rodger and Jarryd Dunn on the
:05:46. > :05:52.outside. Maslak is not afraid of a quick opening 200, 29.99 at his last
:05:53. > :06:03.race on the way to victory. Luguelin Santos trying to keep up. The Czech
:06:04. > :06:06.athlete, with Taplin behind him. Luka Janezic, Sebastian Rode is
:06:07. > :06:13.making a move, has he got anything left. Maslak is just clear of Taplin
:06:14. > :06:18.and Santos is trying to get there but Maslak pulling away in the final
:06:19. > :06:24.50 metres and is Pavel Maslak takes it and Taplin faded and Santos held
:06:25. > :06:28.onto second place, but Pavel Maslak has a convincing victory, the Czech
:06:29. > :06:32.athlete who has been European and World Champion indoors, and he
:06:33. > :06:38.really knows how to run on the boards. Some people can't get used
:06:39. > :06:43.to the two lap 400m and the cameras and the slopes and the spring of the
:06:44. > :06:46.boards, but Maslak us to go out hard and he did that time and controlled
:06:47. > :06:53.it after that. Yes, that was all over in the first
:06:54. > :06:58.100, 150 metres, once he got in front. Taplin in third place never
:06:59. > :07:04.got on terms, they both had a great race in the Czech Republic last
:07:05. > :07:09.week. Taplin won and this time, Maslak thought, I am going to run
:07:10. > :07:14.out in front and run the race I like to run. The first 200 was not that
:07:15. > :07:18.quick, and he could control it and hold him off. Look how strong he
:07:19. > :07:22.came through, a good pointer for the Europeans, and good to see Santos
:07:23. > :07:30.running well but Maslak the man in charge and could not get past him.
:07:31. > :07:34.Santos did a controlled drift out to hold off Taplin who gave up in the
:07:35. > :07:41.end. A very impressive victory for Pavel Maslak.
:07:42. > :07:57.Long Jump. Look at that, Fabrice Lapierre. One of the man who is most
:07:58. > :08:01.consistent, ordinary. Struggling. Greg Rutherford, I am sure, if you
:08:02. > :08:07.are watching, you will be enjoying this. Because nobody beyond eight
:08:08. > :08:15.metres in training. Lapierre Jones under the same. Lapierre looks as
:08:16. > :08:26.though he has done something in this last round. But again, not
:08:27. > :08:29.threatening that eight metre line. Fabrice Lapierre normally so
:08:30. > :08:39.consistent, saves his best for last, he goes into third place.
:08:40. > :08:43.We are still in the bowels of the stadium and it is about three
:08:44. > :08:49.flights down to get here and behind me, you can see the athletes warming
:08:50. > :08:55.up, the fast guys out for the men's 60 metres heats shortly. And you may
:08:56. > :08:57.have seen Nigel Levine and James Ellington, British printers, warm
:08:58. > :09:02.weather training in Tenerife, and they suffered a bad motorcycle
:09:03. > :09:06.accident that left them both with many serious injuries to their legs,
:09:07. > :09:10.and their pelvis and their heads and they have both undergone numerous
:09:11. > :09:15.procedures to get back into health, both pulling through well and on
:09:16. > :09:16.their way to rehab. James let's behind-the-scenes to let's know how
:09:17. > :09:26.his progress is going. James Ellison and Nigel Levine are
:09:27. > :09:28.conscious after a motorbike accident.
:09:29. > :09:35.I thought, is this a dream? Please wake up. Then I realised it was not.
:09:36. > :09:40.I looked down to check my legs and my right, my left leg was fractured
:09:41. > :09:44.and my right leg was fractured and I saw bones coming out and crazy
:09:45. > :09:49.stuff. I shouted for Nigel to see where he was and I could not turn my
:09:50. > :09:50.head because I was messed up on the floor. Me and him were speaking for
:09:51. > :10:10.a while. Checking he was alive. I really messed myself up body wise.
:10:11. > :10:14.Underneath is the wound where my compound fracture happened so to be
:10:15. > :10:19.and Libya, full compound fracture which came through the leg and broke
:10:20. > :10:23.through the skin. Imagine your pelvis has an opening that much, it
:10:24. > :10:28.opened that much. I have got damage to the back. I had a helmet on,
:10:29. > :10:33.believe it or not, but the impact was so hard, as put my head to the
:10:34. > :10:37.skull and that had eight stitches. For the average patient who is not
:10:38. > :10:42.an Olympic athlete, these are big injuries and it is not just one
:10:43. > :10:43.injury. I think all of this is going to potentially seriously threaten
:10:44. > :10:56.his career. I just happens to have a good
:10:57. > :11:02.support network around me, good friends and family. Just
:11:03. > :11:06.appreciating what you have, so many people out there look to what they
:11:07. > :11:10.don't have and that is when people become unhappy. I think if you can
:11:11. > :11:13.appreciate what you do have, you can look at other people's circumstances
:11:14. > :11:18.and it makes the journey a lot easier.
:11:19. > :11:22.It is just incredible what they have been through and their bodies to get
:11:23. > :11:27.to the stage they are in now and you see the severity of those injuries.
:11:28. > :11:33.First thoughts always, can I survive this, am I going to live the walk
:11:34. > :11:37.another day, let alone to run? As an athlete, they will both think, can I
:11:38. > :11:41.compete again, is my body ever going to be capable of athletics again?
:11:42. > :11:45.That is the first thing they would have thought. They were in such
:11:46. > :11:48.great shape the previous season going into the indoor season with a
:11:49. > :11:52.very positive demeanour about things. Their training was
:11:53. > :11:55.exceptional, and was hearing reports of what was happening in Tenerife so
:11:56. > :12:01.you imagine how frustrated both athletes will be with I would say a
:12:02. > :12:05.simple accident, but it was timing. Ten minutes later or before, the
:12:06. > :12:10.boys would be here performing. It tells you how fragile life can be. I
:12:11. > :12:14.am so impressed with their attitude. They said, we will accept what we
:12:15. > :12:19.are doing and we will just get back to the top of our game. Phenomenal
:12:20. > :12:23.mental attitude, I am really proud of what they are doing. It certainly
:12:24. > :12:27.would put things into focus and perspective about what they want to
:12:28. > :12:31.do and whether they want to get back in shape, it will take a lot of
:12:32. > :12:36.effort to get back to it. Athletes know about how rehab is hard and how
:12:37. > :12:39.hard it is to reach peak performance. You took the words out
:12:40. > :12:43.of my mouth, that will help them get through this, the setbacks they have
:12:44. > :12:48.encountered and experienced as athletes. James in particular has
:12:49. > :12:52.been questioning whether he should continue in the sport. This is about
:12:53. > :12:56.life, this could have been life or death for these young men and as
:12:57. > :12:59.Colin said, our hearts go out to them but they were horrific injuries
:13:00. > :13:05.and they will recover and hopefully they can get back on track. It was
:13:06. > :13:09.be great to see them back in the 60-metre again. Next, the women's
:13:10. > :13:20.800m, here is Steve Cram. The pacemaker is Kendra Chambers and
:13:21. > :13:26.militia bishop, silver-medallist -- Melissa Bishop. She she has 12 races
:13:27. > :13:33.already covered this is the one to watch for her. Joanna Jozwik in soup
:13:34. > :13:43.perch for, a new Polish record. In front of her home crowd about ten
:13:44. > :13:47.days ago. And what a great couple of years for Shelayna Oskan-Clarke.
:13:48. > :13:51.Struggling to produce a time, she does have a qualifying time for
:13:52. > :13:58.outdoors last year and she can go to Belgrade whatever happens today.
:13:59. > :14:04.Lovisa Lindh, of Sweden, in four. And in lane three, Chrishuna
:14:05. > :14:08.Williams, great season moving from the 400 to the 800 for the American
:14:09. > :14:13.last year, first time we will see her running the full distance
:14:14. > :14:17.indoors. Adele Tracey needs to run under 2.3, she does have a
:14:18. > :14:22.qualifying time from last summer in a mixed race so I think she needs to
:14:23. > :14:30.get under 2.3, she was second at the UK trials last week. So the two
:14:31. > :14:36.British athletes against each other here is not as against the field,
:14:37. > :14:38.Jozwik and Bishop is the favourite in lane six and seven, the women's
:14:39. > :14:54.800 meals -- 800m. Expect them to go through in about
:14:55. > :14:58.28 for the first 200 metres. Little nudge there and Chambers just coming
:14:59. > :15:06.across Bishop, letting her go. This is maybe a little wick from
:15:07. > :15:12.Chambers. Wise level heads from the athletes behind just letting her go.
:15:13. > :15:16.Just needs to settle down here. 28 point 16.
:15:17. > :15:22.I just think that the two ladies sitting in second and third, fourth
:15:23. > :15:25.and fifth positions in the Rio Olympic Games last year, they know
:15:26. > :15:31.that they are really racing each other today and they are watching
:15:32. > :15:35.each other there. Melissa Bishop raced last week and won convincingly
:15:36. > :15:43.but didn't look as good as she did this time last year. Joanna Jozwik
:15:44. > :15:47.has run quicker this year. So, Bishop will be left out in front
:15:48. > :15:57.here. Joanna Jozwik was down in South Africa. We are watching the
:15:58. > :16:04.polls go really well. They're now being closed down by the rest of the
:16:05. > :16:14.field. Shelayna Oskan-Clarke in fifth place. She is moving up. Adele
:16:15. > :16:24.Tracy moving through as well. Look at this, a real bit of pressure
:16:25. > :16:32.being tried by Jozwik. A few little elbows there. Jozwik. Determined to
:16:33. > :16:39.get to the front. It's going to be the poll, Jozwik, coming away from
:16:40. > :16:47.the rest. -- the the Pole. At the front, Jozwik coming away with the
:16:48. > :16:55.win. Shelayna Oskan-Clarke second and that will confirm her selection.
:16:56. > :17:02.Jozwik, that was a real scrap down the back straight, wasn't it? The
:17:03. > :17:07.effort to hold Jozwik off meant that she came under pressure from
:17:08. > :17:12.Shelayna Oskan-Clarke in the end. Shelayna perhaps a little frustrated
:17:13. > :17:16.but that was better from her. Much better from Shelayna Oskan-Clarke.
:17:17. > :17:20.She has trained well over the winter, possibly a bit better than
:17:21. > :17:26.Melissa Bishop has. She seemed to be better than the form she was in last
:17:27. > :17:33.year. Joanna Jozwik just had so much in the tank. When she went
:17:34. > :17:39.convincingly past Melissa Bishop. She wasn't able to maintain it over
:17:40. > :17:44.the final 100 metres. Shelayna Oskan-Clarke sitting in third place
:17:45. > :17:48.there. She was gaining almost every stride on Melissa Bishop and that
:17:49. > :17:52.gives her confidence too. She had the change of gear that she didn't
:17:53. > :17:57.really have last week and the confidence to move through strongly
:17:58. > :18:02.and hold onto that second place. That will do her confidence a lot of
:18:03. > :18:07.good, I think, and hopefully seal her selection for those indoor
:18:08. > :18:13.Championships. We will tidy it all up. It looks like Shelayna has been
:18:14. > :18:17.rewarded with a personal best. She might have taken second place on the
:18:18. > :18:24.line, there. They're trying to sort it out with a photograph. Certainly
:18:25. > :18:29.Jozwik was a winner. Shelayna Oskan-Clarke will be going to
:18:30. > :18:36.Belgrade but I'm not sure we can say the same for Adelle Tracey, who was
:18:37. > :18:39.outside the time. A personal best but a tinge of this point because
:18:40. > :18:44.you know there is more to come from you, don't you? Yet, there is more
:18:45. > :18:50.to come. I'm really happy actually with the way I acquitted myself in
:18:51. > :18:54.that race, tactically. I made better decisions. So I'm happy with that
:18:55. > :19:00.but I'm not so happy with the time. What it is a PB indoors and it's
:19:01. > :19:04.better than last week. So I'm happy. Does it give you an indicator as
:19:05. > :19:08.well as to how well you have trained in the winter? Yeah, I know that my
:19:09. > :19:13.training has gone really well in the winter and I'm definitely in much
:19:14. > :19:17.better shape. Last week, my last few races weren't that good, so I was a
:19:18. > :19:23.bit worried, but it's definitely coming now. I just have to trust the
:19:24. > :19:26.process. We will see you in the European Indoors, we wish you well
:19:27. > :19:32.and lots of luck for that. Thank you.
:19:33. > :19:47.Well, back to this pole vault, just a few athletes remain. The Swiss
:19:48. > :19:53.athlete, Nicole Buchler of Switzerland. This is her first
:19:54. > :20:04.attempt. Really good -- gave it a really good bash on the way up. At
:20:05. > :20:15.33 years of age she is showing some experience there. A good competitor
:20:16. > :20:27.when she is at her best. She moves into first place. Let's go back and
:20:28. > :20:35.just remind you of the result in the men's 400 metres. That victory means
:20:36. > :20:47.that he overtook, they were both on 17 points coming into this one. He
:20:48. > :20:50.takes the victory and $20,000. Just tidying up these results and
:20:51. > :20:54.noticing Jarryd Dunn missing the qualifying time again.
:20:55. > :21:02.A new personal best, good to confirm that. Adelle Tracey, who has been
:21:03. > :21:07.suffering from a bit of a cold this week sadly for her, that time will
:21:08. > :21:12.not be good enough for her to achieve selection. But Jozwik
:21:13. > :21:17.continues on her winning ways. COMMENTATOR: Next up, the first of
:21:18. > :21:22.the heats in the men's 60 metres. Going in this will be James Dasaolu
:21:23. > :21:26.and Harry Aikines-Aryeetey for Great Britain. Ronnie Baker, the American,
:21:27. > :21:33.is going well. Beejay Lee inside Harry Aikines-Aryeetey. James
:21:34. > :21:38.Dasaolu goes in lane six. Jeff Henderson, the long jump Olympic
:21:39. > :21:46.champion, in lane seven, and Julian Forte of Jamaica in lane eight.
:21:47. > :21:50.There is Beejay Lee. He looks like an indoor specialist, not a tall man
:21:51. > :21:55.at all, powerful. Doesn't have particular quick times indoors this
:21:56. > :22:04.year. Has gone below ten seconds over 100 metres, Beejay Lee. Harry
:22:05. > :22:12.Aikines-Aryeetey, 6.66 his quickest time this season. The two spots for
:22:13. > :22:20.Britain in the team is occupied by Andy Robinson and Theo Etienne.
:22:21. > :22:25.Ramon Gittens, bronze at the world indoors last year. That gives you an
:22:26. > :22:33.idea of the time is required at the very highest level. He has run at
:22:34. > :22:39.6.40 six. Exceptionally quick this season. Everton Clarke, the
:22:40. > :22:45.Jamaican, six times he has run 6.57 this season. James Dasaolu, along
:22:46. > :22:55.with CJ Ujah, they are going to go to Belgrade, by advising other
:22:56. > :22:58.championships this season. So it is not about qualification for the
:22:59. > :23:05.European Indoors for James Dasaolu, just about seeing what he has got
:23:06. > :23:11.early on. Seeing how his pace is, Jeff Henderson. He has struggled a
:23:12. > :23:21.bit in this company. Julian Forte of Jamaica on the outside. 6.55 at the
:23:22. > :23:27.Kingston outdoor meeting. Three will automatically go through to the
:23:28. > :23:30.final, which is at four o'clock. Britain will have high hopes in
:23:31. > :23:36.Belgrade, given the current rankings. It was Andrew Robertson,
:23:37. > :23:43.not running here, who did take the UK title last week. Harry
:23:44. > :23:51.Aikines-Aryeetey will be looking to impress, looking to better his 6.66.
:23:52. > :23:55.So, Beejay Lee on the inside. Ronnie Baker, the American, goes in four.
:23:56. > :24:02.Everton Clarke in five, James Dasaolu and six, Jeff Henderson in
:24:03. > :24:17.seven and Julian Forte in lane eight. By way cleanly and Ronnie
:24:18. > :24:23.Baker is running well. Ronnie Baker comes through to take it quite
:24:24. > :24:32.comfortably. Three go through automatically. James Dasaolu with
:24:33. > :24:36.hands on hips. We mention just how well Ronnie Baker has been running
:24:37. > :24:44.this season. James Dasaolu doing his level best. Ronnie Baker very
:24:45. > :24:51.impressive again. You've got to love and admire a performance like that.
:24:52. > :24:56.He's very dominant. He is proving that his last one wasn't a flash in
:24:57. > :25:00.the pan. He has got good frequency, a lot of good leg speed in the early
:25:01. > :25:06.part which polls in front of the field. Because he's got so much
:25:07. > :25:11.power, every time he hits the floor, it allows him to just ease away from
:25:12. > :25:15.the field. Great performance. Julian Forte on the outside came through to
:25:16. > :25:21.take third place. James Dasaolu left a little bit by Ronnie Baker. James
:25:22. > :25:27.Dasaolu just couldn't quite get up to his maximum speed quickly enough.
:25:28. > :25:30.In is funny that way because dirt and people are performing and
:25:31. > :25:34.preparing slightly differently. Those are the things that indoors
:25:35. > :25:38.doesn't really prepare you for, mentally, if you know what I mean.
:25:39. > :25:42.It's really interesting what is going on. Watching James, driving
:25:43. > :25:48.hard, working hard to get into that upright position. He looks a bit
:25:49. > :25:51.flat in comparison. We've seen him a lot more buoyant than that. But it
:25:52. > :26:00.is indoors and even though we've seen him so much better, that has an
:26:01. > :26:03.effect on the performance. James Dasaolu straightening and trying to
:26:04. > :26:07.get to the line. He will have to wait and see, he's not one of the
:26:08. > :26:15.automatic qualifiers. Just one more hit to go but James Dasaolu run out
:26:16. > :26:22.of the automatic qualifiers. Well, just three athletes remain in this
:26:23. > :26:30.women's pole vault. This is Mary Saxer, 4.53. She has jumped 4.55
:26:31. > :26:41.this year, so will proudly expect to get this. Second attempt. Better!
:26:42. > :26:52.Good effort. That is better. As I say, three athletes remain. She
:26:53. > :27:03.carries a foul also at this height, Katerina Stefanidi.
:27:04. > :27:10.Well, here is Katerina Stefanidi, carrying a foul. At this height, are
:27:11. > :27:16.opening height. And that is a lot better. The first attempt it was
:27:17. > :27:20.weird, she came onto the runway and she ran in and dropped the pole and
:27:21. > :27:24.took some tape on it, she clearly wasn't quite right. She's been
:27:25. > :27:27.waiting a long time since the start of this competition, but that is
:27:28. > :27:33.what she can do when she gets it right. No surprise, she goes well
:27:34. > :27:36.clear at this height of 4.53 but goes into second place behind Nicole
:27:37. > :27:55.Buchler as well. So there we are, the first heat of
:27:56. > :28:03.the men's 60 metres. Ronnie Baker and Everton Clarke the qualifiers.
:28:04. > :28:10.Julian Forte and James Dasaolu will wait to see if they go through.
:28:11. > :28:18.Well, it's all go as usual indoors. Action coming thick and fast. Plenty
:28:19. > :28:28.of British interest in the men's. A new name, Kyle De Escofet. Let's go
:28:29. > :28:32.through them one by one. Real interest here. Don't forget we're
:28:33. > :28:37.talking about these European Championships coming up in Belgrade.
:28:38. > :28:41.Danny Talbot not really going to figure. Wasn't at the trials last
:28:42. > :28:50.week but having a bit of a run out here, over 60 metres. Birchfield
:28:51. > :29:00.Harrier. Talking about local and Wolverhampton, Kyle De Escofet, was
:29:01. > :29:03.fourth at the trials. Really disappointed with his run at the
:29:04. > :29:10.trials but has a chance to get selected because Richard Kilty did a
:29:11. > :29:13.false start at the trials. We have a ready got two with automatic
:29:14. > :29:18.selection. Richard Kilty was disqualified. It's really between
:29:19. > :29:23.those two in first spot for Great Britain. Andrew Fisher from Bahrain
:29:24. > :29:28.former Jamaican but running for Bahrain now, setting loads of
:29:29. > :29:39.national records, funnily enough... Kim Collins from St Kitts and Nevis.
:29:40. > :29:48.Setting loads of personal records -- records for his age group. CJ Ujah
:29:49. > :29:51.has been running pretty quickly, 6.56, but has not put himself
:29:52. > :29:55.thought for selection for Belgrade. In fact at the trials last week he
:29:56. > :30:10.went off to Poland and competed there instead. John Orta Gardi --
:30:11. > :30:16.John Otugade made the final last week. The first thing here is, the
:30:17. > :30:21.top three will go through, but in doing so, Mark Kilty needs to be
:30:22. > :30:27.careful he doesn't false start again. Training indoor European
:30:28. > :30:36.champion and he finds himself fighting for selection in lane
:30:37. > :30:41.three. Next to him, Kyle De Escofet. His qualifying time wasn't in the
:30:42. > :30:45.top two last week, so he didn't get automatic selection, but were he to
:30:46. > :30:52.beat Richard Kilty here Kameni would put himself forward. Collins in
:30:53. > :31:05.five, Fisher in four. CJ Ujah in six. Only three will make the final.
:31:06. > :31:09.So it may well be for Richard Kilty and Kyle De Escofet, they have too
:31:10. > :31:16.treated as a race between the two of them.
:31:17. > :31:25.No eight, Sheldon Mitchell, a slight long cold and hesitation and he
:31:26. > :31:31.almost fell out of his block rather than if. . Yes, I have been
:31:32. > :31:35.downstairs and the gun is always quite quick in sprinting and in
:31:36. > :31:39.Birmingham, there is usually a long cold and he literally just falls. He
:31:40. > :31:54.lives his hands and he is thinking, oh, man! A face plant. It is a long
:31:55. > :32:03.way to come. He has not come all the way from Jamaica, he has been in
:32:04. > :32:10.other races. So we are down to seven. This is really interesting to
:32:11. > :32:14.watch Kilty, he did this last week, I was at those trials and he could
:32:15. > :32:21.not believe what he had done, everybody was looking to him to
:32:22. > :32:34.perhaps win that race. And there is De Escofet next to him.
:32:35. > :32:45.Fisher in four and Collins in five, CJ Ujah in six.
:32:46. > :32:49.It is another one! That is another one from Fisher. There was a little
:32:50. > :32:53.twitch next to him as well from Kilty, I will just look at this, we
:32:54. > :33:01.get the chance to see the reaction times. Yes, he is saying, what is
:33:02. > :33:06.going on here? Colin, was that a longer hold that time, you said it
:33:07. > :33:10.was normally? I think slightly but the gun is not over the top, it is
:33:11. > :33:15.quite a reasonable time to hold these guys in set position. We are
:33:16. > :33:20.looking for twitching around, I am not so sure, I think Fisher just
:33:21. > :33:23.drove out before it was necessary. And that far in front, you clearly
:33:24. > :33:30.have reacted before the official time would allow you. Yes, he has
:33:31. > :33:34.gone. Well, he can shrug his shoulders, but that was it pretty
:33:35. > :33:41.clear., it wasn't set off by anybody else. I don't know what he is going
:33:42. > :33:49.to argue about committee can be annoyed and frustrated at himself.
:33:50. > :33:57.It is pretty clear. He is angling for a get out here. Steve, have you
:33:58. > :34:03.ever been involved in a false start? Yes. Was it your fault? No. In
:34:04. > :34:12.1500m, they bring you back and everybody does it again. Yes, it is
:34:13. > :34:16.a really height and tense moment because you know how important those
:34:17. > :34:22.ten metres are and you are understanding about why they are
:34:23. > :34:29.frustrated. Third time lucky, Steve. It makes everybody a little bit
:34:30. > :34:33.nervous, understandably. He just needs to move away, he is a bit too
:34:34. > :34:41.close to these guys who are trying to concentrate. Ten metres off the
:34:42. > :34:50.left as they looked down the track. Tolbert in one, De Escofet in two,
:34:51. > :34:55.CJ Ujah in three. And we have Collins. Clearly way, Kilty gets a
:34:56. > :35:05.good start. CJ Ujah, Collins is going to win it, it is CJ Ujah and
:35:06. > :35:11.Kilty who will go through. It is close for second, I think CJ went
:35:12. > :35:17.ahead of Kilty and that could be good enough for Kilty to cement his
:35:18. > :35:21.place ahead of De Escofet, who is walking away, in terms of Belgrade
:35:22. > :35:25.and he is the defending champion and that would probably be the right
:35:26. > :35:30.decision. He has beaten his rival and CJ is not eligible and does not
:35:31. > :35:34.want to be selected either. It was messy, Colin, but we got there in
:35:35. > :35:38.the end! We got there eventually, thank goodness for that! Irritating
:35:39. > :35:42.for the athletes because walking back, you think, the race could be
:35:43. > :35:49.over, and what they have produced is good. Kim Collins with that time,
:35:50. > :35:52.you expect those performances now. Both CJ and Kilty, a strong
:35:53. > :35:56.performance and a good performance from both of them under these
:35:57. > :35:59.circumstances. They will be rubbing their hands together for the final
:36:00. > :36:03.because they can be really competitive. All the times, they
:36:04. > :36:07.were there or thereabouts and it is a blanket finish. You understand how
:36:08. > :36:15.crucial that first ten metres is going to be to set up your race
:36:16. > :36:20.perfectly well to do well. Look at Kim Collins, still working
:36:21. > :36:25.hard, I can't believe that man is 40 and producing such great sprint
:36:26. > :36:31.times, it is great to see that, making it these youngsters see they
:36:32. > :36:42.have longevity. Right, back to the Pole Vault. Katerina Stefanidi, of
:36:43. > :36:47.Greece, two fouls, the Olympic champion finding herself under some
:36:48. > :36:52.pressure and she has to go clear to remain in the competition, in second
:36:53. > :36:58.place at the moment. And she does. I'm sure there is a sigh of relief,
:36:59. > :37:03.the Olympic champion comes with a bit of extra pressure and we saw
:37:04. > :37:12.what that did to the sprinters a moment ago. Stefanidi is angling it
:37:13. > :37:17.well. And clear at 4.63 and she goes ahead at the third time of asking,
:37:18. > :37:30.ahead of Nicole Buchler, who is out injured. Stefanidi continues.
:37:31. > :37:44.Steve, just tidying up that 60 metres, and they have given it to
:37:45. > :37:47.Alina Talay, it looked like CJ Ujah. We have come up and we are here in
:37:48. > :37:56.front of the start of the 60 metres. Elaine Thompson is over there and
:37:57. > :38:01.she has been doing warm up sprinting, the double Olympic sprint
:38:02. > :38:06.champion and the first time we had that at an Olympic Games since 1998
:38:07. > :38:14.and Flo Jo, and she is a great treat for the crowd and she is more than
:38:15. > :38:19.happy to be in Birmingham. It is my first time in Birmingham. I have
:38:20. > :38:22.come here to compete and it is indoors so that is good. What do you
:38:23. > :38:30.think you will be able to deliver for the crowd just self? Even though
:38:31. > :38:34.it is not the final of the season, I am looking forward to going again
:38:35. > :38:41.and just performing the best I can and it is part of the training as
:38:42. > :38:45.well. I must take it step-by-step to see where I am at this time of the
:38:46. > :38:49.season. It is fair to say life has changed quite a lot for uses the
:38:50. > :38:58.Olympics, what has it been like for you? It is kind of fun, sometimes it
:38:59. > :39:02.is hard. Life has been changed, yes. Because I have a lot of
:39:03. > :39:06.responsibility now. I do a lot of interviews and photo shoots and all
:39:07. > :39:12.of that so it has been changed. Everybody says now I am a superstar.
:39:13. > :39:16.Me going out there and capturing that stubble is something special
:39:17. > :39:21.for me. Looking back to last year, I had an amazing season and in terms
:39:22. > :39:26.of preparation, I have had an amazing season. It starts now
:39:27. > :39:31.because I will be competing. The preparation is going good, training
:39:32. > :39:33.going good so far and I just want to stay humble and focused and just do
:39:34. > :39:41.my thing. At the heart of things is Elaine
:39:42. > :39:47.Thompson, the double Olympic champion, in lane five. A little bit
:39:48. > :39:54.to spare after her heat, just easing across the line, not the quickest.
:39:55. > :40:00.Again, with a little bit to spare. And she will have to use that
:40:01. > :40:02.because there will be strong competition from Barbara Pierre,
:40:03. > :40:16.Asha Philip goes for Great Britain in lane seven. So the Norwegian has
:40:17. > :40:29.pulled out, so Jessica Young-Warren is in lane two. 29 now but running
:40:30. > :40:33.well this season. Barbara Pierre, I felt she got it wrong in the heat,
:40:34. > :40:41.the world indoor champion last year, a real threat to Elaine Thompson.
:40:42. > :40:49.She is at her best. You would fancy her perhaps to be the favourite. But
:40:50. > :40:53.got it wrong in the heats. 27-year-old Gayon Evans, flourishing
:40:54. > :40:59.later in her career. And that is Elaine Thompson. She has run 7.02
:41:00. > :41:03.this season, outdoors over 60 metres in Kingston, but there was a
:41:04. > :41:08.following wind just inside the legal limit, enough to give her a bit of a
:41:09. > :41:14.hand. Finalist in Rio, Christania Williams, disappointed in that
:41:15. > :41:17.final, suffered cramp. Got to the final, though. Asha Philip,
:41:18. > :41:26.successfully defended her UK indoors title last week. And she carries
:41:27. > :41:32.British hopes here, but it is a tall order given the competition
:41:33. > :41:36.alongside her. And Santos Brazil, took that nasty tumble as she hit
:41:37. > :41:40.the upslope of the track. After crossing the line in the heat, but
:41:41. > :41:49.she is all right and ready to go in the final. Barbara Pierre in three,
:41:50. > :41:55.Gayon Evans in four. Alongside another Jamaican Thompson and
:41:56. > :42:02.another Jamaican in six, Christania Williams. Asha Philip in seven and
:42:03. > :42:07.Santos in eight. In the pink headband, Elaine Thompson is the
:42:08. > :42:11.woman to beat here. Silence inside the arena for the final of the
:42:12. > :42:24.women's 60 metres. Thompson looks for a good start and
:42:25. > :42:32.she is running and powering away from the rest and Elaine Thompson
:42:33. > :42:36.with 6.98, Elaine Thompson. I said she might have a bit to spare, a bit
:42:37. > :42:42.left from the heat, she was saving something, what a run! We have not
:42:43. > :42:50.seen QuickTime is today until now. Elaine Thompson, blistering, what a
:42:51. > :42:55.win! That was a chunk off heat performance, great to see the
:42:56. > :42:59.Olympic champion in such great form. She is here specifically just to
:43:00. > :43:04.work on those first 30 metres, to set herself up for a more impressive
:43:05. > :43:08.100m and to perform one of the fastest times of all time here in
:43:09. > :43:11.Birmingham and that is truly impressive. You can see from her
:43:12. > :43:15.reaction she knew she had something extra to give in the final, I don't
:43:16. > :43:20.think she thought she could go on to seven. I wonder what she's thinking,
:43:21. > :43:24.out of the box, she put her authority on the field and this is
:43:25. > :43:31.when she comes into the strong part of the race from 40, to 60. Already
:43:32. > :43:36.moving away, not spending time chasing. So she must be thinking, I
:43:37. > :43:42.have got good time in here, I am hitting the floor well, everything
:43:43. > :43:47.is really positive. She is on the left of our screen, just focusing
:43:48. > :43:52.and looks very majestic and relaxed. Easily just bouncing down the track.
:43:53. > :43:56.Still very good focus. All the way to the line, that little dip and not
:43:57. > :44:00.even thinking about what she has run, just thinking, that was a
:44:01. > :44:04.competent piece of running. Only eight other women in history
:44:05. > :44:10.have gone below seven seconds in this event and Elaine Thompson does
:44:11. > :44:14.it along Shelly-Ann Fraser Price in the all-time indoor list, Elaine
:44:15. > :44:19.Thompson a long way clear of the rest, it was a Jamaican one, two and
:44:20. > :44:31.three ahead of Evans and Williams. Such a rare achievement for anybody
:44:32. > :44:34.to go under seven, you join an elite list and it is the fastest we have
:44:35. > :44:38.seen in Britain, what was it like to run?
:44:39. > :44:46.Thank you, I went out with rhythm, I came to the final. Each time, I get
:44:47. > :44:51.more confident. Each time I run, I get to love it and try to execute it
:44:52. > :44:55.the best I can. You wanted to work on your start, the first 30 metres,
:44:56. > :45:00.how much more is there to come as you project forward for the outdoor
:45:01. > :45:04.season now? I am focused to getting my first 30, it is my weak area and
:45:05. > :45:08.looking back at that video today, I can work more on it. You just take
:45:09. > :45:13.it step-by-step and each time I race, I get confident and focus, go
:45:14. > :45:20.back to the drawing board and work on it. We have it Indoor
:45:21. > :45:25.Championships for our athletes, but no indoors for Jamaican champions,
:45:26. > :45:28.what you do next? I go home, I do more training. I just will go out
:45:29. > :45:31.there and perform. We will see you back in London later in the year,
:45:32. > :45:37.well done today. Hopefully, thank you very much. Yes,
:45:38. > :45:46.look out, London, in August, Elaine Thompson in fine shape. Gayon Evans
:45:47. > :45:48.and Christania Williams making up the Jamaican one, two and three and
:45:49. > :46:01.Asha Philip standing there. Delighted to say that Lorraine
:46:02. > :46:03.Coogan has joined as a head of the women's long jump, vision.
:46:04. > :46:10.Congratulations on your victory last week. Thank you. Obviously the
:46:11. > :46:12.winter has gone well, what are your hopes and of Belgrade? Definitely
:46:13. > :46:17.hoping to go to Belgrade and get on the podium. I have ambitions of
:46:18. > :46:21.going there to grab the gold. But I definitely want to get a medal. It
:46:22. > :46:27.would be fantastic to follow up my medal from the World Indoors with
:46:28. > :46:33.one at Belgrade as well. You know your way to the rostrum and things
:46:34. > :46:37.have started well. What is it that suits you so well? I think the
:46:38. > :46:41.indoor atmosphere is a lot more close cosy, there are less elements
:46:42. > :46:47.like the wind so it really gives you the opportunity to shine. Less
:46:48. > :46:52.things to deal with like the weather. It seems like we're heading
:46:53. > :46:56.into a rich period of women's long jumping in this country. KJ T,
:46:57. > :47:00.Katarina Johnson-Thompson, has pulled out this week though. How
:47:01. > :47:04.good is it to be in that competition and leading the way knowing that
:47:05. > :47:10.they are there? It's fantastic. I love the fact that we have four
:47:11. > :47:14.world-class women's long jump athletes. Representing Great
:47:15. > :47:22.Britain. It's wonderful to have such depth in the long jump and it's nice
:47:23. > :47:26.to represent Britain at our sport's showcase. Fantastic support here for
:47:27. > :47:30.you, Lorraine. I mentioned Jazmin Sawyers as well, who did very well
:47:31. > :47:33.in the British Championships last week but also we have seen her on
:47:34. > :47:40.television over the last few weeks for another skill of hers. She has
:47:41. > :47:46.very much been on song. Music is a really new thing for me. I've been
:47:47. > :47:54.doing sport my whole life and music in just the last few years. At the
:47:55. > :47:57.moment to juggle everything, I'm not fitting training around every thing
:47:58. > :48:03.else, I'm fitting everything else around training. Music is a passion
:48:04. > :48:09.but sport has always been the dream. I want to do X Y and Z, I want to be
:48:10. > :48:14.on The Voice and be on shows but work that in around it. I think if
:48:15. > :48:18.you choose one thing as a priority, you can fit other things around it,
:48:19. > :48:22.it's not as difficult as it sounds. In Dorset is a key part of the year,
:48:23. > :48:26.it gives you a good chance to see where you are at an break the cycle
:48:27. > :48:29.of just training. You get to a point in the winter where all you have
:48:30. > :48:33.done is train and you think, what's this for again? Indoors is perfect
:48:34. > :48:37.for that. It will give me a chance to see what I need to work on. I
:48:38. > :48:42.live and train in Birmingham now so competing here is going to be great,
:48:43. > :48:45.I'm at home, effectively. I'm actually due a good result here. The
:48:46. > :48:49.last few times I have competed I have been ill or injured and just
:48:50. > :48:55.not performed to my best. So I think third time is a charm and I think I
:48:56. > :49:01.can do that here. Olympic finalist, find a list on The Voice or at least
:49:02. > :49:04.through to the next round, Jazmin Sawyers, for most people in a
:49:05. > :49:07.lifetime one of those things would be enough and you are there just
:49:08. > :49:11.smiling your way through these incredible experiences and
:49:12. > :49:14.expressing them brilliantly but actually, you have got the time and
:49:15. > :49:19.it is something you want to pursue and you are managing it all? That
:49:20. > :49:23.way I see it. I like to say yes to things, grab every opportunity that
:49:24. > :49:26.I'm given. They won't be around forever. I'm young and I don't have
:49:27. > :49:30.any responsible at ease and my degree is done, I'm going to say yes
:49:31. > :49:36.to as much as I can. I love doing these things, and when I'm happier I
:49:37. > :49:45.perform better. You are so unusual on Echo V Voice for being that
:49:46. > :49:50.person who is managing a really high profile career, what does your
:49:51. > :49:56.mentor, will.i.am,, say about that? I think his words were," that's
:49:57. > :50:00.dope". I feel like I have a lot to learn and I have the right attitude
:50:01. > :50:06.and I'm open to learning and I've been coached my whole life. So if
:50:07. > :50:11.anybody... You can take the criticism? Exactly. Listen, I hope
:50:12. > :50:16.you don't get too much criticism today, I hope it goes well for you
:50:17. > :50:19.in your day job. You might sing for us a bit later on, who knows! Lets
:50:20. > :50:23.get back to the action coming here is Steve Cram.
:50:24. > :50:34.COMMENTATOR: I don't know if he can sing, Andreas IG, but good to see
:50:35. > :50:38.him back! He followed up a fifth at the world temperatures in 2015, he
:50:39. > :50:45.has been beset by injuries since then. -- Andrew Osagie. Kyle
:50:46. > :50:52.Langford is the youngsters still building his career. We have got the
:50:53. > :51:02.World Championship bronze medallist, Amel Tuka. Also two very good
:51:03. > :51:06.Americans. And watch out for Casimir Loxsom as well, who has slipped into
:51:07. > :51:10.second place behind the pacemaker. He has been the big hope for the USA
:51:11. > :51:17.for a long time but never quite delivered for them. Casemiro
:51:18. > :51:31.-- Casimir Loxsom Agro -- ran a really fast 300 recently.
:51:32. > :51:43.Really needs to take that step up and run quicker here and established
:51:44. > :51:49.himself within the 800 races. A very quick first 400 four Loxsom and he
:51:50. > :51:55.will have a seven or hate metre lead because Kyle Langford is coming
:51:56. > :52:00.under pressure now from Amel Tuka. Andrew Osagie is still in contact
:52:01. > :52:03.there. Loxsom is going to have to last this out at the front because
:52:04. > :52:14.the pace is quick. Through 600 metres. Langford just gives Amel
:52:15. > :52:19.Tuka a bit of a push. Guy Learmonth is moving up on his compatriot. The
:52:20. > :52:23.stride length is shortening and they are starting to chase him down now.
:52:24. > :52:31.We've got Amel Tuka, Langford, Guy Learmonth. Andrew Osagie! Loxsom
:52:32. > :52:37.might just last this out! Loxsom takes it. Amel Tuka and then I think
:52:38. > :52:42.Kyle Langford finishing the best of the Brits. Well, that was painful. A
:52:43. > :52:46.quick time really but the way they ran it and Loxsom and the others as
:52:47. > :52:55.well, I thought they were running down. I think it totally turned into
:52:56. > :53:00.a race of attrition there. I remember -- over that last two or
:53:01. > :53:08.300 metres. You expected the others to run down Cass Loxsom. Amel Tuka
:53:09. > :53:16.used his energy to soon and wasn't able to hold on. Andrew Osagie had
:53:17. > :53:20.sat off the pace at the back for most of the race. He was the one who
:53:21. > :53:28.had the most left in his legs in that last lap. Good to see him doing
:53:29. > :53:30.well, they both wanted to be the best British athlete and run
:53:31. > :53:38.personal best today and by racing each other they chased down Amel
:53:39. > :53:42.Tuka. It looks like Cass Loxsom is taking half a strike compared to
:53:43. > :53:45.what he was doing early in the race, everyone's legs had gone and it was
:53:46. > :53:57.just about who could held on best. The Times were 24.08, 28.6. That
:53:58. > :54:00.hurt but he has been rewarded with the quickest time in the world this
:54:01. > :54:04.year and a personal best. He's a real talent. Amel Tuka with a
:54:05. > :54:08.national record in second place, Kyle Langford with a qualifying time
:54:09. > :54:12.for the European Championships, in third place. So a lot of good times
:54:13. > :54:16.but as Paula said, a really good positive with Andrew Osagie on the
:54:17. > :54:18.comeback trail and looking strong as well.
:54:19. > :54:26.Well, this guy, Loxsom, he was second at the world Junior
:54:27. > :54:31.Championships all the way back in 2010. He is 25 now and has really
:54:32. > :54:34.struggled to show that talent. This could be his year. Is he going to
:54:35. > :54:39.get on the American team and come to London in the summer? We will tidy
:54:40. > :54:43.up that result in a second but I can tell you that Andrew Osagie has also
:54:44. > :54:47.run a qualifying time. Guy Learmonth also selected, all will be. You
:54:48. > :54:53.never know, we could have three in Belgrade which would be wonderful to
:54:54. > :55:02.see. The next event will be the women's 400 metres. That is Lina
:55:03. > :55:05.Nielsen, the two Nielsen twins. Just perhaps a little bit behind in
:55:06. > :55:20.development behind her sister who goes in Lane four, Laviai Nielsen.
:55:21. > :55:26.The hurdlers will be the ones to beat, I think, in this flat race
:55:27. > :55:33.which gets under way in a few minutes' time. What an exciting
:55:34. > :55:50.prospect the Nielsen twins are. 21 years old, Denise Lewis. Lina a bit
:55:51. > :55:54.behind Laviai in her development, just developed a little bit later.
:55:55. > :55:58.It was an accomplished race and a very competitive race. The girls
:55:59. > :56:01.feeding off each other there. Eilidh Doyle was in front and looking in
:56:02. > :56:05.control but what is exciting about these two youngsters is that they
:56:06. > :56:10.keep pushing each other on to great results. There is a real buzz in the
:56:11. > :56:14.air about them because not only are they twins but that aspirations are
:56:15. > :56:18.really high. They are confident and they are developing nicely just at
:56:19. > :56:24.the right time. Just on the line there. Laviai just beating her
:56:25. > :56:32.sister by tenths of a second there. But really both of them set personal
:56:33. > :56:34.bests. Lina yet to qualify for the European Championships, the teams
:56:35. > :56:38.will be announced on Tuesday, so she has a lot to run for here, to
:56:39. > :56:41.impress those selectors for that meeting to make the announcement on
:56:42. > :56:45.Tuesday. It is a good transition period as well because the women did
:56:46. > :56:48.so well at the Olympic Games, the 4x400 metres with the likes of
:56:49. > :56:52.Christine and if you are the other athletes just getting to the stage
:56:53. > :56:55.where they will be moving on in the sport, not necessarily approaching
:56:56. > :57:00.their best but just going slightly over their peak, and to see these
:57:01. > :57:04.two coming through is exciting. It is very exciting. You have got Davis
:57:05. > :57:11.as well and Kerstin Maslin also in the mix. That four by 400 metres
:57:12. > :57:15.team is looking great. We see Eilidh Doyle over the herbals ordinarily
:57:16. > :57:18.and she is the British champion. He has qualified for Belgrade so she
:57:19. > :57:24.will be looking to stamp another really quick time here. And make
:57:25. > :57:27.progress with her outdoor season over the 400 metre hurdles. Andrew
:57:28. > :57:32.Cotter, take it away. COMMENTATOR: Yes, Eilidh Doyle will
:57:33. > :57:40.be the leading Briton in that race in Sheffield, she just beat the
:57:41. > :57:45.Nielsen twins. Very stiff competition in this race. Verone
:57:46. > :57:58.Chambers of Jamaica goes in lane one, then Lina Nielsen. Shamier
:57:59. > :58:02.Little in three, Laviai Nielsen in Lane four, Eilidh Doyle in five. We
:58:03. > :58:07.talk about the hurdlers here, three women who have made their name over
:58:08. > :58:11.the barriers. One of those is twice world champion over the 400 hurdles,
:58:12. > :58:16.fourth in Rio after coming back from injury, had struggled a bit, but
:58:17. > :58:21.such a talented athlete, Zuzana Hejnova. Eilidh Doyle in lane five,
:58:22. > :58:27.won that European title last week. Three wins this season although this
:58:28. > :58:34.is a higher calibre field than those she has faced so far. Laviai
:58:35. > :58:40.Nielsen, if you want to tell them apart, Laviai has slightly darker
:58:41. > :58:47.hair. Her name is Danish, the Nielsen twins have a Danish father
:58:48. > :58:49.and an Egyptian mother. Shamier Little, trademark glasses, doesn't
:58:50. > :58:55.like contact lenses. World Championship silver over 400 hurdles
:58:56. > :59:04.a couple of years ago in Beijing. There is Lina Nielsen. Just a little
:59:05. > :59:06.bit but hind Laviai in terms of development but slightly later into
:59:07. > :59:18.the sport. And then Verone Chambers of Jamaica goes on the inside.
:59:19. > :59:31.Well, it is a strong line-up. Eilidh Doyle leading the home challenge,
:59:32. > :59:35.but Lina Nielsen inside her. Shamier Little in three. There is Lina
:59:36. > :59:40.Nielsen, but Zuzana Hejnova insight Eilidh Doyle. She won the 400 in
:59:41. > :59:48.Ostrava in the Czech Republic recently. Eilidh Doyle is able to
:59:49. > :00:00.work off Zuzana Hejnova. The final of the women's 400 metres. Cleanly
:00:01. > :00:05.away. Around the camber of the Ben Gummer Eilidh Doyle keeping the pace
:00:06. > :00:12.at the moment. A good start by Laviai Nielsen, eating up a bit of a
:00:13. > :00:20.gap between her and Eilidh Doyle. Shamier Little going strongly as
:00:21. > :00:24.well in lane three. They hit the bell and Eilidh Doyle in fourth
:00:25. > :00:28.place at the moment. It is Laviai Nielsen at the moment from Zuzana
:00:29. > :00:33.Hejnova. Eilidh Doyle hoping for something left. Beginning to make
:00:34. > :00:38.her move. Sneaking up on Zuzana Hejnova but those two still out in
:00:39. > :00:46.front, Laviai Nielsen trying to hold on. The crowd roaring her on and she
:00:47. > :00:59.will just take it, Zuzana Hejnova ahead of Laviai Nielsen.
:01:00. > :01:08.A very strong run from Nielsen but to taking the victory. And she
:01:09. > :01:14.should congratulate Nielsen for that run, a brave run to take it out
:01:15. > :01:24.ahead of Hejnova. Ably Doyle was not back, but Hejnova takes the victory,
:01:25. > :01:28.had of Laviai Nielsen. That was brave, she went out to not
:01:29. > :01:32.frightened about reputation, she is on the top ten all-time indoor list
:01:33. > :01:39.for Great Britain, and 52 seconds. And her sister, both great talents.
:01:40. > :01:45.You never see one without the other, great they are both running so well
:01:46. > :01:50.and they will form part of a great 4x4 squad in Belgrade with Doyle.
:01:51. > :01:55.Hejnova had to work so hard, you have to attack the 400m. I love the
:01:56. > :01:58.fact she went for it through the first 200m and down the back
:01:59. > :02:04.straight, still going strong, she can hang on, Hejnova thinking, I'm
:02:05. > :02:10.not really is in. She waits until the bend and she looks for a bit of
:02:11. > :02:16.weakness and this is it. Her knees dropped a bit and she has not got
:02:17. > :02:19.enough drive to hold off Hejnova, but what a great performance,
:02:20. > :02:26.Hejnova getting the win, a good run from her, but a great runner from
:02:27. > :02:32.Nielsen. Little and Doyle, both hurdlers. We have real new talent in
:02:33. > :02:37.the 400m, well done, Laviai Nielsen and also Lina in sixth place,
:02:38. > :02:43.outside her personal best. That is a good deal quicker than her outdoor
:02:44. > :02:47.personal best, Laviai Nielsen, 52.25, it is quite rare and it shows
:02:48. > :02:52.great promise for this season and beyond that, very impressive run
:02:53. > :02:57.from Laviai Nielsen, just behind Zuzana Hejnova. One of the first to
:02:58. > :02:58.congratulate Laviai Nielsen was Lina and they alongside Eilidh Doyle are
:02:59. > :03:07.talking to Phil Jones. We could see the delight on the
:03:08. > :03:12.faces of the two sisters celebrating your personal best, a fantastic
:03:13. > :03:17.performance, Laviai. I have wanted that. Long and every time I thought,
:03:18. > :03:21.today is the day, so made up by that time, it means so much to me. We
:03:22. > :03:25.were talking about how it was important at this age for you to
:03:26. > :03:29.feel you belong on this big senior stage, you look at home. Yes, still
:03:30. > :03:34.getting used to competing against such amazing athletes like Eilidh
:03:35. > :03:38.Doyle and Hejnova and it is daunting on the start line but I believe in
:03:39. > :03:44.myself that I can compete against them and so happy to pull it out.
:03:45. > :03:47.What is it like as one of the more senior athletes in the team, you
:03:48. > :03:54.have brought medals home time after time, to see where -- fresh bread --
:03:55. > :03:58.fresh but coming through? It is great for me, the more 400m running
:03:59. > :04:04.well, it bodes well for the outdoor season. You had but your place in
:04:05. > :04:08.Belgrade, pleased to be heading there? Yes, really dilated, we're
:04:09. > :04:12.building for the outdoor season and everything has gone well so
:04:13. > :04:17.hopefully just keep plugging away at -- really dilated. Lina, just
:04:18. > :04:22.outside your personal best, have you done enough to secure your third
:04:23. > :04:25.place? I hope so, to go as an individual and get the experience
:04:26. > :04:30.against these athletes would be amazing for me so fingers crossed!
:04:31. > :04:31.You have given the selectors a nudge with that performance,
:04:32. > :04:44.congratulations, everybody. Thank you.
:04:45. > :04:50.So taking the victory, Zuzana Hejnova, but very impressive from
:04:51. > :04:59.Laviai Nielsen. And Verone Chambers in sixth place.
:05:00. > :05:06.So we rattle on to the man's 60 metres hurdles and this is a man,
:05:07. > :05:11.Colin Jackson, who has been so impressive this season and again, we
:05:12. > :05:17.are just seeing him bearing the fruit of being injury free for a
:05:18. > :05:22.long time, we will talk more about Andrew Pozzi in a moment, but first,
:05:23. > :05:29.the results of the man's 800m. Good news for British fans. Kyle
:05:30. > :05:36.Langford, personal best. Casimir Loxsom, the quick this year. Guy
:05:37. > :05:40.Learmonth with his personal best. And we could have all three British
:05:41. > :05:46.athletes representing us force election on Monday in the
:05:47. > :05:50.Championships. Great achievements by British athletes this season
:05:51. > :05:54.including Laura Muir and Callum Hawkins, but Pozzi has been flying
:05:55. > :06:00.indoors over the barriers and he is Elaine four. In lane three, Aries
:06:01. > :06:14.Merritt. The Northern Irish record-holder Ben
:06:15. > :06:22.Reynolds runs for islands now. He won in Dublin recently. 7.77 this
:06:23. > :06:33.season. Outside him, the man who made his Olympic final last summer,
:06:34. > :06:37.of Cyprus, Milan Trajkovic. And what a career Aries Merritt has had, and
:06:38. > :06:44.he will be warmly received. What a time he had with injury and illness.
:06:45. > :06:53.Had a kidney transplant just after the World Championships in 2015, the
:06:54. > :06:57.Olympic champion. ANDREW CASTLE: One, deserves to be running the
:06:58. > :07:00.times he is running after his problems with injuries, five
:07:01. > :07:06.surgeries over five years. David King outside him, the Plymouth
:07:07. > :07:17.athlete. Second behind Pozzi in the UK Championships last week. Six
:07:18. > :07:22.times Dutch champion Koen Smet. He took that title again recently. Jake
:07:23. > :07:29.Porter, Birchfield Harrier, again, a local man and he won the British
:07:30. > :07:33.universities indoor title yesterday in Sheffield, a new personal best
:07:34. > :07:40.this season. And Edirin Okoro, another Birchfield Harrier, false
:07:41. > :07:45.start in the finals last weekend and looking to make amends today.
:07:46. > :07:56.ANDREW CASTLE: One this season has had six races and six wins. --
:07:57. > :08:03.Andrew Pozzi this season has had. He lines up alongside Aries Merritt.
:08:04. > :08:13.Trajkovic, Merritt, David King. Koen Smet, Porter and Edirin Okoro. See
:08:14. > :08:23.what time Pozzi can achieve. He has been running very quick times
:08:24. > :08:34.indeed. The man's 60 metres hurdles final.
:08:35. > :08:43.A little twitch from David King outside Pozzi and that set others
:08:44. > :08:47.off. We have had a number of those false start is today and King did
:08:48. > :08:55.look to have a bit of movement, Colin. A little bit twitchy. He
:08:56. > :09:02.knows himself he is in very good shape. We saw him in Tenerife and he
:09:03. > :09:07.looked good and strong. You can see he definitely moved off those box,
:09:08. > :09:23.we will see what the decision is. I think he knows. He will know
:09:24. > :09:31.himself. He felt that little stutter, it is when the pressure
:09:32. > :09:52.releases on the blocks. And his reaction time will come up.
:09:53. > :10:02.A conduct warning, lane five. A nod of the head and relief from David
:10:03. > :10:11.King. It is a yellow card. We will talk about that after the race may
:10:12. > :10:17.be. Or maybe not. Ben Reynolds, Trajkovic, Merritt, Pozzi, David
:10:18. > :10:30.King still in five, Koen Smet, Porter and Edirin Okoro in lane
:10:31. > :10:35.eight. It just adds to the tension. Merritt and Pozzi and King at the
:10:36. > :10:43.heart of things. Once more to the start the 60-metre hurdles.
:10:44. > :10:58.Cleanly away this time, good start by Pozzi, King and Merritt and Pozzi
:10:59. > :11:02.is flying once again. 7.4 four. It matches his personal best, he has
:11:03. > :11:08.done it again and he is running so consistently well, so consistently
:11:09. > :11:13.quickly, time and time again. And he destroyed the field, Pozzi. He wins
:11:14. > :11:19.here and I'm sure he is not finished winning a game this season,
:11:20. > :11:22.wonderful to see from Pozzi. Injury free and running just beautifully.
:11:23. > :11:28.Really nice to see and he would be frustrated to see 7.44 but glancing
:11:29. > :11:34.down, it has been rounded down to a new personal best of 7.43, great
:11:35. > :11:40.performance, personal best and just 100th of a second shy of Tony
:11:41. > :11:45.Jarrett's English record, so still things to focus on to grab that
:11:46. > :11:49.record. Look up positive he was out of the box, he is world number one,
:11:50. > :11:53.the world leader, he knows everybody is watching him now and look at that
:11:54. > :12:00.strong performance from David King to beat the former Olympic champion
:12:01. > :12:04.and take second place to beat Aries Merritt. Great performances from the
:12:05. > :12:10.British herbalist and onwards to Belgrade. The French Herbers,
:12:11. > :12:17.usually very competitive, so Belgrade will be interesting. Andrew
:12:18. > :12:23.Pozzi will have his work cut out but he is the man to beat at the moment.
:12:24. > :12:26.Spot on, a seven strider approach into the first hurdle, really strong
:12:27. > :12:30.this year because he has trained more. He has suffered so many
:12:31. > :12:33.injuries in the past so nice to see him coming back injury free and
:12:34. > :12:38.showing what he is really capable of. This is not the end for this
:12:39. > :12:43.young man, he will probably be the next British athlete to go under the
:12:44. > :12:47.7.14 mark and how close to the British record indoors and out? He
:12:48. > :12:51.is very capable of it. He looked to the clock and it wasn't rounded
:12:52. > :12:55.down, a little bit frustrated, but it has been rounded down, a big win
:12:56. > :13:00.for Andrew Pozzi and he is talking to fill.
:13:01. > :13:06.Great to hear the birthday boy Colin Jackson talking about what is to
:13:07. > :13:09.come for you, definitely challenging the British record indoors and
:13:10. > :13:14.outdoors and it must be great to hear that from somebody like Colin.
:13:15. > :13:17.Definitely, as long as he does not forget the British record is his
:13:18. > :13:22.world record so it will take a lot of beating but I feel ready to go. I
:13:23. > :13:26.thought I was maybe a bit quicker today but really pleased, bringing
:13:27. > :13:29.it down every race and feeling more comfortable and looking forward to
:13:30. > :13:32.the European Indoors. What is it like when you get into the groove
:13:33. > :13:38.you are showing time after time on the start line, is that another one
:13:39. > :13:42.ready to come out? Yes, the great thing is I have won 7.4 week in and
:13:43. > :13:45.week out and it is a really competitive time on the global stage
:13:46. > :13:49.going into a major championships knowing I can churn them out, it
:13:50. > :13:53.feels great. The next tick of the box is a medal and getting on the
:13:54. > :13:57.podium in the Europeans. Yes, I have been around for what feels like a
:13:58. > :14:01.lifetime now and because of injury and other problems, I have not been
:14:02. > :14:05.able to win many medals so to do that in the Europeans and the world
:14:06. > :14:07.stage is the next set. We wish you well for Belgrade and
:14:08. > :14:14.congratulations today. They give very much.
:14:15. > :14:18.Bear it is, Andrew Pozzi, rounded down, just 100 of a second outside
:14:19. > :14:26.the Tony Jarrett's in this record, still some way behind Colin's 7.30.
:14:27. > :14:32.David King with a personal best ahead of Aries Merritt in third.
:14:33. > :14:38.Andrew Pozzi might have his eye on this man's British record, Colin
:14:39. > :14:44.Jackson who earlier was presenting a special award to Malcolm Arnold who
:14:45. > :14:49.has retired from coaching after an illustrious career, coaching Colin
:14:50. > :14:54.himself the world record in the hurdles, a hurdles specialist and he
:14:55. > :14:57.gave so much to the sport, as did our Colin and today, as Phil
:14:58. > :15:01.mentioned, is a very special day because believe it or not and you
:15:02. > :15:07.will check your Cyclopedia to verify this, can you believe Colin Jackson
:15:08. > :15:11.is 50 years old? And Colin has had an incredible life and career so we
:15:12. > :15:16.thought he might like to have a look at this.
:15:17. > :15:24.Colin Jackson! It is Jackson in the first hurdle.
:15:25. > :15:40.Jackson takes it! A new world record! Watching the false start
:15:41. > :15:46.take place. I guess Usain is doing something!
:15:47. > :15:52.Does that make up for not getting you a card at breakfast this
:15:53. > :16:00.morning? Yeah, absolutely! I do really enjoyed watching that. I had
:16:01. > :16:04.the nod over him in the end! It was a highlight of what was an
:16:05. > :16:08.incredible career and you have given people so much joy as well as a
:16:09. > :16:12.broadcaster. What people will be asking is what the heck do you use
:16:13. > :16:24.on your skin? You look about 28 if that! You know how to flatter me,
:16:25. > :16:32.you'd do well, Gabbs! Steve Cram, let's get back on with the action.
:16:33. > :16:39.COMMENTATOR: Amy Yang stir, 50, I remember, it wasn't that long ago!
:16:40. > :16:46.Actually it was! Happy birthday, Col. Isn't that a great site, the
:16:47. > :16:50.full stadium? We will be back here for the world indoor Championships
:16:51. > :16:53.next year. There will be some women in this race here expecting to be in
:16:54. > :17:04.that final because it is a very high quality. The record-holder there.
:17:05. > :17:12.Megan Simons made it to the final here. Very quick starter, the
:17:13. > :17:17.Jamaican. Former Olympic, world and indeed indoor champion, Sally
:17:18. > :17:26.Pearson, still trying to rediscover some of that form. 0.125 Her
:17:27. > :17:30.reaction time, something to work on. Christine Manning, number two in the
:17:31. > :17:37.world indoors, only Harrison, the world record-holder, has gone
:17:38. > :17:44.quicker. The earrings and the classic ponytail, as I now know it's
:17:45. > :17:48.cool. Sharika Nelvis, the American, just stumbled a bit but looked very
:17:49. > :17:58.good once she got going, she could give them something to think about
:17:59. > :18:06.here. Talay, one of Europe's best. As site her -- beside her, Jasmine
:18:07. > :18:13.Stowers. You thought that she might be the one to grab it by the scruff
:18:14. > :18:18.of the neck. In 2015 she was leading the world rankings but did not make
:18:19. > :18:22.the American team then either. Full of talent. Then there is Jackie
:18:23. > :18:28.Coward on the outside in lane eight. With the exception of Simmonds, who
:18:29. > :18:35.is new to all of this, they have all run under eight seconds this year.
:18:36. > :18:45.Manning the quickest at 7.80 two. -- at 7.82.
:18:46. > :18:57.7.74 back in 1990 is the biggest time ever run in Great Britain.
:18:58. > :19:04.We've just seen them go so quick in the men's hurdles. This is a quick
:19:05. > :19:11.enough track. So, Manning in four. Sally Pearson next to her in three'.
:19:12. > :19:16.Sharika Nelvis next to her in five. All three of them wearing blue.
:19:17. > :19:25.Manning gets out quickly. Manning is going to win this one! Manning wins
:19:26. > :19:31.it, 7.84. A great race from her again and yet another personal best.
:19:32. > :19:35.It may well get taken down a hundredth, we will see. It didn't
:19:36. > :19:39.seem as smooth to me, actually, but she got out well. She was put under
:19:40. > :19:43.a little bit of pressure towards the end, Sally Pearson getting better
:19:44. > :19:48.all the time and we will wait to see The Times come up. Colin, Manning
:19:49. > :19:52.has had a good start to her career in 2011-12 and then really lost her
:19:53. > :19:56.way in the next few years. But this is a good sign for her that there
:19:57. > :20:03.could be something this summer. It's truly nice to see this, Steve. It's
:20:04. > :20:07.something we come back to, you come to this arena and become a winner.
:20:08. > :20:10.This is the most important thing for all these athletes, to get into the
:20:11. > :20:13.groove of victories because that always sets you up with confidence
:20:14. > :20:20.going into the end of the season. That is going to be paramount. Look
:20:21. > :20:23.how dominant Manning was here. She was the clear victor. That says a
:20:24. > :20:26.lot to everyone else that they have to make sure they stay nice and
:20:27. > :20:34.focused. She is steady at the halfway mark. Put pressure on where
:20:35. > :20:37.she can perhaps crumble a little bit technically. That's what you want to
:20:38. > :20:43.do, get on her shoulder as quickly as you can and then apply pressure.
:20:44. > :20:46.I'm just noticing there the change of hairstyle. We've gone from the
:20:47. > :20:51.plaited ponytail which surely was getting in the way a bit, I'm told
:20:52. > :21:00.that is a plaited topknot. I will have no idea! But it has done the
:21:01. > :21:11.trick. Sharika Nelvis just holding off Talay in second place. Here is a
:21:12. > :21:15.chance to see the uber talented Jazmin Sawyers. Two fouls in the
:21:16. > :21:21.first two rounds. The third round of this long jump edition. Fast and
:21:22. > :21:28.compact as ever. That's better. She likes it. -- long jump competition.
:21:29. > :21:34.Making the headlines for her exploits on The Voice. A different
:21:35. > :21:39.kind of performing here but she is a smile on her face, she is a great
:21:40. > :21:45.competitor. A series of silver medals across the last few years.
:21:46. > :21:51.Commonwealth silver, European silver, and Sawyer is chasing a lead
:21:52. > :21:59.of 6.39, has gone into a lead with a season's best of 6.46. Kelly's other
:22:00. > :22:05.than looking on. So then, Lorraine Ugen talks about gold in Belgrade in
:22:06. > :22:10.the European indoor Championships. What can she do to respond to the
:22:11. > :22:17.jump of her team-mate? Well, that is better! Lorraine 6.46. A much taller
:22:18. > :22:22.and rangy figure, also struggled on the board in the first round, 6.45
:22:23. > :22:28.in the second but looks like she has got it right in the third round
:22:29. > :22:32.here. All athletes get six jumps -- six jumps and with some space to
:22:33. > :22:44.spare it is better from Ugen. She is growing in confidence. A nod of the
:22:45. > :22:49.head. It is 6.76 and she goes into the lead. A season's best. Rulli and
:22:50. > :22:57.stuff from Ugen and at the moment it is a Britain 1-2. Well, the bad news
:22:58. > :23:08.for Christina Manning is that it didn't get rounded down from 7.81,
:23:09. > :23:15.it went the other way. 7.83 It is a hundredth slower than she ran in
:23:16. > :23:16.Ireland last week. Well, a fascinating 1500 metres. Very high
:23:17. > :23:29.quality line-up. The man in great form is the
:23:30. > :23:38.Australian, Ryan Gregson. Garrett Heath, the American as well. And
:23:39. > :23:45.Nathan Brannen, the Canadian, experienced the final 1500 in Rio.
:23:46. > :23:51.Reuben Bett is the pacemaker in this one, looking to go through 457
:23:52. > :23:58.seconds. There is Nathan Brannen, 34 now and still going well, and then
:23:59. > :24:12.be easily identifiable figure of Ben Blankenship. There is Cecil and
:24:13. > :24:20.alongside Bethwel Birgen. Garrett Heath, who has beaten Mo Farah
:24:21. > :24:30.before in cross country. Lancashire, from Sheffield. Ryan Gregson, the
:24:31. > :24:36.Australian record-holder. Vincent Kibet, a winner here a couple of
:24:37. > :24:39.years ago. We talked about men going for the qualifying standard. James
:24:40. > :24:44.West also looking for the qualifying standard. The Swedish champion,
:24:45. > :25:00.calibre gland. Disqualified a feud heats of the 1500, a few
:25:01. > :25:06.elbows thrown there. The qualifying standard for British athletics is
:25:07. > :25:10.3.40 two. So far only Tom Lancashire has reached it, but we tend to see
:25:11. > :25:13.some personal bests here and if the pace is good and they are running
:25:14. > :25:18.well, and the pacemaker should do well and we should get a good time.
:25:19. > :25:23.We should be in for a good race. We really need Reuben Bett to get out
:25:24. > :25:27.and set the pace he has been asked for, 57 seconds. Already some
:25:28. > :25:43.pushing and shoving on the start line. The interesting one, Tom
:25:44. > :25:51.Lancashire has the qualifying time but the other athletes are certainly
:25:52. > :25:56.looking at that mark. The field is stretched out behind the pacemaker,
:25:57. > :26:07.not too crowded. The pacemaker is Reuben Bett and you have Bethwel
:26:08. > :26:12.Birgen and Ben Blankenship. Just behind Ben Blankenship there is
:26:13. > :26:22.Garrett Heath, so the two Americans are in there. Near the back is James
:26:23. > :26:29.West. Tom Lancashire in the middle of things. Just behind the two
:26:30. > :26:42.Americans. The pace just slowed down a little bit. You can see by the
:26:43. > :26:50.pace he is moving, the field is really well strung out. Lancashire
:26:51. > :26:55.really running well so far. Lancashire there in the green vest
:26:56. > :27:01.just a couple of paces ahead. A couple of Americans and Tom
:27:02. > :27:05.Lancashire. Look out as well for Ryan Gregson in the heart of things
:27:06. > :27:11.there, just behind Tom Lancashire. He is in great form at the moment.
:27:12. > :27:18.Bethwel Birgen is stretching them out. Ryan Gregson looking to make a
:27:19. > :27:24.bit of a gap. Just losing contact with the main group at the moment.
:27:25. > :27:30.The chasing time is going to be a tall order. I think it will. James
:27:31. > :27:38.West has not quite latched on but he is running well so far. Vincent
:27:39. > :27:43.Kibet one here a couple of years ago. Now here comes Lancashire,
:27:44. > :27:53.Lancashire in a good position at the moment is in fourth place. Bethwel
:27:54. > :28:03.Birgen in second place. Ben Blankenship... Look at the
:28:04. > :28:07.acceleration of Bethwel Birgen. Five or six metres ahead of Ben
:28:08. > :28:11.Blankenship, and Tom Lancashire is trying to keep pace as well.
:28:12. > :28:21.BELL Flying as well is Ryan Gregson.
:28:22. > :28:31.Bethwel Birgen looks around to see the Australian. Then Lancashire and
:28:32. > :28:40.Bethwel Birgen racing for the victory. Lancashire takes the
:28:41. > :28:46.victory, ahead of -- Ben Blankenship takes the victory. The British
:28:47. > :28:54.athletes led by then Lancashire just faded a little bit. Ryan Gregson was
:28:55. > :28:59.with them as well. It was a change of gear and then another change of
:29:00. > :29:03.gear after -- after that to bring a response. I like watching Ben
:29:04. > :29:07.Blankenship race because he makes it interesting, he mixes it up and he
:29:08. > :29:16.likes to try out different things. He definitely did not want to lose
:29:17. > :29:26.out to Ryan Gregson. He just wanted it a little bit more down that home
:29:27. > :29:31.straight. Ryan Gregson, his time is a national record. Ryan Gregson with
:29:32. > :29:40.the Australian Jamba chips coming out in March. Ben Blankenship in
:29:41. > :29:45.3:36.4 two. A very oppressive win for the American.
:29:46. > :29:54.The men's high jump, it is Robbie Grabarz. His coach last night
:29:55. > :30:04.described him as a ninja. A bit more animated than that, paraphrasing
:30:05. > :30:13.slightly. Add 2.20 eight. -- set at 2.28. A clean sheet so far. Clear at
:30:14. > :30:21.24. Can he clear 2.28? Yes he can! A big cheer from the home crowd.
:30:22. > :30:27.Robbie Grabarz, tough as leather. Look at this, he is hard as nails
:30:28. > :30:34.when it comes to competition. Fourth in Rio. Bronze four years ago, five
:30:35. > :30:36.years ago now, in London 2012. Robbie Grabarz, a clean sheet, in
:30:37. > :30:48.the lead. Season's best indeed. The man who finished one place ahead
:30:49. > :30:54.of him in London 2012, Erik Kynard. He has fouled once at this height,
:30:55. > :31:00.hence Grabarz sneaking ahead. In terms of overall position, Kynard
:31:01. > :31:06.goes clear to match that clearance of Grabarz on the second attempt and
:31:07. > :31:12.the American will have to settle for second place as it stands. A long
:31:13. > :31:17.way from that bar, it really travelled, Andy good clearance from
:31:18. > :31:27.Kynard. So it looks like a battle between those two a bit of a tussle,
:31:28. > :31:33.is using's best for Kynard. -- a season's best.
:31:34. > :31:38.Coming up soon, an assault on the British 1,000-metre record, it is a
:31:39. > :31:44.woman who every time she steps on the track seems to do something very
:31:45. > :31:45.special, Scotland's Laura Muir, and this is why we are so excited about
:31:46. > :31:55.her. It could be a golden year for Laura
:31:56. > :32:02.Muir. In 2016, she wondered 1500m British record twice. My word, she
:32:03. > :32:06.has smashed the British record. Did you see it? Olympic
:32:07. > :32:10.disappointment in Rio, a seventh place finish there, but it fuelled
:32:11. > :32:15.her fire to win. Twice on the track in 2017 and twice a record breaker.
:32:16. > :32:20.First, the 5000m British indoor record. Then you're a's vastus
:32:21. > :32:29.female ever over 3,000 metres indoors. Today, she could break Dame
:32:30. > :32:34.Kelly Holmes's British record and perhaps challenge the world record.
:32:35. > :32:41.Right now, it is tough to bet against her.
:32:42. > :32:48.Those other women lining up, Laura at the back for the women's 1,000
:32:49. > :32:51.metres on the track and she has taken the British record 5000m,
:32:52. > :32:56.European 3000m on the indoor circuit and last year, she broke the record
:32:57. > :33:03.of Dame Kelly Holmes, outdoor 1500m and was heading to is rushed Rio in
:33:04. > :33:08.great form but do not get the medals. You get the feeling, Paula
:33:09. > :33:14.Radcliffe, Laura Muir is taking it one step further with her training,
:33:15. > :33:18.looking even fitter than she was at the end of 2016. Definitely, she is
:33:19. > :33:22.building race after race on the momentum she built up last year. She
:33:23. > :33:27.did not let the disappointment in Rio knock her back and she came back
:33:28. > :33:31.stronger and during the winter, her training has gone so well and she is
:33:32. > :33:35.confident and really strong and just really brave the way she attacks the
:33:36. > :33:40.race. She will have the attack today to get close to that British record
:33:41. > :33:45.and the world-record, but she is absolutely capable of it if she runs
:33:46. > :33:52.at the right way today. This is her in the 3000m European record. What
:33:53. > :33:57.do you see here? Well, the strength she used in this race, she used to
:33:58. > :34:03.this point. She wound it up from about 500m out, and with her last
:34:04. > :34:09.attempt, Hellen Obiri, she thought she could fly past Laura Muir and
:34:10. > :34:13.Hellen Obiri throwing in the towel, jogging and over the last 70 metres,
:34:14. > :34:19.still running a national record for her. Laura Muir powered away and one
:34:20. > :34:23.she knew she had broken Obiri, she got more confidence from that and
:34:24. > :34:27.she crossed the line to know she had a British and a European record. To
:34:28. > :34:32.know that strength is there, she has seen her speed in training and she
:34:33. > :34:33.is building towards Belgrade and the European Indoors and she wants to
:34:34. > :34:42.run a record here today. This is the start list, this is a
:34:43. > :34:47.record attempt, this race has been set up for more, but watch for Kate
:34:48. > :34:55.Grace, the American in good form. Sarah McDonald, Birchfield Harrier.
:34:56. > :34:58.Now qualified for the 1,500 at the European Championships,
:34:59. > :35:03.congratulations to her. From the Netherlands, Sanne Verstegen, is
:35:04. > :35:06.after the Dutch 1,000 metres record which is held by somebody in the
:35:07. > :35:13.stadium here. Jenny Meadows the quickest ever over 800m by a British
:35:14. > :35:17.athlete indoors and she has been working well with Laura, she paced
:35:18. > :35:28.that race for her and she has the job of pacing it, 600 metres. Andy
:35:29. > :35:31.Young, Laura's coach, he has given Jenny very specific instructions and
:35:32. > :35:38.hopefully she will be able to follow those. Kate Grace, Olympic finalist
:35:39. > :35:49.at the 800m, she will be strong. Sarah McDonald, Verstegen. The
:35:50. > :35:53.Australian Zoe Buckman. And Revee Walcott-Nolan who attempted to make
:35:54. > :35:57.the 1500m team, a good 800m run, she finished third at the British
:35:58. > :36:04.trials. This is what we are looking for, the British record held by
:36:05. > :36:14.Kelly Holmes, to 32 point 53 and we will mention the record which is
:36:15. > :36:20.2:30.3 four. What a performance it would be, Laura Muir with Kate
:36:21. > :36:26.Grace, slotting in behind. Jenny has to judge this rate, not too fast and
:36:27. > :36:30.not too slow, perfect pacemaking, about 29 seconds. More would like to
:36:31. > :36:36.be running about 30 seconds per lap and finished a strong as she can.
:36:37. > :36:42.Laura Muir has the speed from her strength so she needs to have that
:36:43. > :36:47.pace and Jenny has to perfectly experience her pacemaker and she has
:36:48. > :36:50.sorted and happily behind her, sitting a little back, maybe she
:36:51. > :36:57.thinks the pace is too quick and the only danger is Kate Grace following
:36:58. > :37:05.every move that lady is making. Jenny speeded up a bit too much for
:37:06. > :37:15.Laura, Laura very good at 800m. She is aiming at two minutes, about
:37:16. > :37:21.that, so spot on at the moment, with Kate Grace hanging on, trying to
:37:22. > :37:26.hang onto Laura. A great difference -- a great distance for 1500m
:37:27. > :37:31.runners. She will attack this now and Jenny will not last much longer,
:37:32. > :37:35.she moves up to the side. Laura is where she likes to be at the font,
:37:36. > :37:42.racing against the top, and she does this so well, more daylight opening
:37:43. > :37:46.up the Kate Grace who I don't think can get back on terms with Laura
:37:47. > :37:53.Muir, so it is her against the clock and getting every ounce of energy
:37:54. > :37:58.out of her legs. The British record, she was up on that record pace at
:37:59. > :38:05.600 metres, Kellie went through in the 800m, she is going to be inside
:38:06. > :38:11.that. Can she match that? She is close to world-record pace, has she
:38:12. > :38:14.got anything left in those legs, the British record in sight, and Laura
:38:15. > :38:21.Muir digging deep down the back straight. The crowds doing their
:38:22. > :38:26.best to lift her, this is hard she looks tired now, but still driving
:38:27. > :38:35.hard, Laura Muir coming round the top bands, chasing this British
:38:36. > :38:40.record, she will not be far from the world-record, she has done it! She
:38:41. > :38:49.has taken almost a second off the British record held by Kelly Holmes,
:38:50. > :38:53.back in 2004. That great Olympic year and who knows what Laura Muir
:38:54. > :38:58.has now ahead of her over the next three or four years, World
:38:59. > :39:03.Championships in London. And one think you know with Laura, she will
:39:04. > :39:07.run and run and run into the ground. She will run herself until there is
:39:08. > :39:13.nothing left to give. Well done, Jenny Meadows, for setting the pace.
:39:14. > :39:18.So a new British record. For a moment, Paula, I thought the
:39:19. > :39:22.world-record was on, just a little tired, understandably, on the last
:39:23. > :39:28.lap, and this is proper world class. Not only world-class, but in
:39:29. > :39:32.all-time, 1,000 metre running. The second-fastest ever at that
:39:33. > :39:38.distance. It is phenomenal, and she is also in the middle of winter
:39:39. > :39:43.training and building towards a 1500m 3000m double in the indoors.
:39:44. > :39:48.This is really the speed and the spectrum and she really worked for
:39:49. > :39:54.that. I whether she had her eye on an eight-metre personal best. She
:39:55. > :39:59.was very close to that and certainly the slowest 200 of that race was the
:40:00. > :40:03.last lap and she was really, really tired and you could see by the way
:40:04. > :40:07.she fell over as she crossed the line and collapse, really exhausted,
:40:08. > :40:11.but that is lately dashes that is what Laura Muir does bass, chasing
:40:12. > :40:17.and not letting up until she is over the line. On that point, she just
:40:18. > :40:27.missed the Scottish indoor record for 800m held by Lynsey Sharp, she
:40:28. > :40:33.ran 2:05. And look how tired she is. You made a good point, this is the
:40:34. > :40:36.winter. I saw her in South Africa training, she is in phenomenal
:40:37. > :40:40.shape. She has got to hold this together to the summer come she is
:40:41. > :40:49.going to the European Championships, two vents. What a year in prospect!
:40:50. > :40:50.She is a great endurance athlete and she has recovered, of course, and
:40:51. > :40:58.she is with Phil. Tired, but delighted with another
:40:59. > :41:02.record and Steve said that was a world-class time not just this year,
:41:03. > :41:07.but any year, you are in true world-class form, tell me about the
:41:08. > :41:12.race. Yes, delighted, and wanted to win, that was really important, on
:41:13. > :41:16.home soil, to break Kellie's record, I am so chuffed and not far away
:41:17. > :41:20.from the world-record so really pleased. How much did this crowd
:41:21. > :41:24.inspire you over the last lap? They were huge, I can't hear myself
:41:25. > :41:28.breathing, they so loud, it's great have support and in the World
:41:29. > :41:34.Championships, it will be a great race. How exciting is it to be in
:41:35. > :41:38.this the form of your life? It's great, it is every athlete's dream
:41:39. > :41:42.to be athlete -- to be injury free and running this well, so I hope I
:41:43. > :41:47.can keep the shape going for the summer. Did use that that record in
:41:48. > :41:50.the look is bikes you have been wearing for all your records? I run
:41:51. > :41:57.every national record in these bikes so I want to keep them! Will have to
:41:58. > :42:02.protect them, insure them. Yes, with a bit now! The next thing is a medal
:42:03. > :42:06.and you have a great medal in Belgrade. Yes, that is my first
:42:07. > :42:11.international medal so hopefully in the two vents and if I get a gold
:42:12. > :42:15.medal, I would see -- I will be delighted with my first. We wish you
:42:16. > :42:23.luck and congratulations again. Thank you, Cheers.
:42:24. > :42:31.A new national record, a new British record, for Laura Muir, becoming a
:42:32. > :42:35.familiar sentence. 2:31:93, only a second off the world-record, and
:42:36. > :42:41.look at those personal best times and national records. Kate Grace.
:42:42. > :42:46.With the Dutch record, Sanne Verstegen. But a fair way behind
:42:47. > :42:50.Laura Muir and I can't wait to see home running in the European Indoor
:42:51. > :43:00.Championships. The final round of the women's Long
:43:01. > :43:07.Jump, Jazmin Sawyers in second place with her season's best in round
:43:08. > :43:12.three, chasing her team-mate Lorraine Ugen, she is 20 centimetres
:43:13. > :43:18.shy of the lead. And that is better. That looks considerably further than
:43:19. > :43:23.the 6.56, giving nothing away with her reaction. Looking across to the
:43:24. > :43:30.distance markers on the far side, look at this. A good extension. Good
:43:31. > :43:35.like shoot, and she cuts the sand clean, it is good on the board, it
:43:36. > :43:42.is going to get a white flag. It will be measured. Just waiting for
:43:43. > :43:46.the distance. 6.71, a big smile from Jazmin Sawyers, a personal best, not
:43:47. > :43:57.quite enough for the lead. But a really good competitive effort. Next
:43:58. > :44:02.on track, the start of the member's 60 metres final, four British
:44:03. > :44:09.athletes going, two not considered for the European Indoors in CJ
:44:10. > :44:17.Goodger. Unofficial six at -- selection race between the two
:44:18. > :44:24.others. Including Richard Kilty, for the third-place behind Robertson who
:44:25. > :44:31.won the UK title last week. This is the line-up. Richard Kilty goes in
:44:32. > :44:39.three, Ronnie Baker is the man to beat, running some exceptionally
:44:40. > :44:48.quick times this season. Collins, Everton Clarke and CJ Ujah on the
:44:49. > :44:54.inside. So in lane one, European champion three years ago James
:44:55. > :44:59.Dasaolu in the 100m, but not going to be in Belgrade. Targeting other
:45:00. > :45:04.Championships, looking to peak for the World Championships in August.
:45:05. > :45:08.That is De Escofet Birchfield Harriers, he is just 20 and he has
:45:09. > :45:15.leapt onto the scene internationally this season. Richard Kilty, we
:45:16. > :45:20.mentioned, and he will need no reminding of his disqualification
:45:21. > :45:23.for a false start in the UK Championships in Sheffield last
:45:24. > :45:33.week. The quickest British athlete so far today, but some distance
:45:34. > :45:37.behind Ronnie Baker, like a distant relative of Tyson Gay. 6.46 he has
:45:38. > :45:44.run this season, so impressive in the heats. Kim Collins, he listens
:45:45. > :45:50.to the stadium announcers and commentators saying how old he is.
:45:51. > :45:57.Still incredibly quick. 6.52 this season and won 82 macro this season.
:45:58. > :46:10.Everton Clarke, of Jamaica. In lane six. And another Jamaican, Julian
:46:11. > :46:14.Forte, goes outside him, a new personal best this season indoors,
:46:15. > :46:23.but not a man who runs a lot indoors, and that is CJ Ujah.
:46:24. > :46:37.Two thousandths of a second. There is Ronnie Baker. I was about to say
:46:38. > :46:44.Ronnie Barker, that would be odd! Ronnie Baker in a four, Kim Collins
:46:45. > :46:48.outside him in lane five. Everton Clarke in six. Julian Forte goes in
:46:49. > :46:50.seven and CJ Ujah in eight. Perhaps a subplot, the battle between
:46:51. > :47:09.Richard Kilty and... The battle for third place in the
:47:10. > :47:17.European Championships is intriguing. The final of the men's
:47:18. > :47:26.60 metres. Cleanly away and Richard Kilty... It is very tight and just
:47:27. > :47:32.gets there! Ronnie Baker had to work so hard there. It was a wonder. I
:47:33. > :47:38.Richard Kilty. Baker was left for a moment. He got that wrong over the
:47:39. > :47:41.first half of the race but got it all right in the second half of the
:47:42. > :47:47.race to save things. That was hard work he says. But it ends in victory
:47:48. > :47:55.and Ronnie Baker did it all in the second 30 metres and impressive in
:47:56. > :47:59.the end. What a race it was. Very explosive really from the off,
:48:00. > :48:04.wasn't it? Let's have a look at this race again now. Richard Kilty gets
:48:05. > :48:08.out of the blocks really well, as expected. We always say he is a
:48:09. > :48:11.specialist over 60 metres because he is very compact and really good at
:48:12. > :48:16.that first phase, puts everybody under pressure straightaway. Baker
:48:17. > :48:20.himself struggled to get onto the shoulder of Richard Kilty early on
:48:21. > :48:27.but then he is running out of time and he just tightens up on him. It
:48:28. > :48:30.is so important to get out early in front. The reaction time was
:48:31. > :48:37.probably the slowest he's had and that is why he was chasing from the
:48:38. > :48:40.very beginning. In that race, that other race for selection for Great
:48:41. > :48:45.Britain, Richard Kilty, what a start. You can see Ian Sloan motion
:48:46. > :48:49.just how far clear he was of Ronnie Baker. That's exactly what you want
:48:50. > :48:53.to do, put people under pressure as fast as you possibly can. Those
:48:54. > :48:58.metres you're covering, you're putting somebody under pressure as
:48:59. > :49:04.they are running out of time. It's not like a 100 metre race. But Baker
:49:05. > :49:06.himself will be happy and relieved to get that victory, even though it
:49:07. > :49:11.wasn't his best run. I think that run by Richard Kilty will guarantee
:49:12. > :49:15.can I don't want to read the minds of the selectors, but guarantee his
:49:16. > :49:21.place in Belgrade. Richard Kilty third-place behind Baker and Kim
:49:22. > :49:27.Collins. Richard Kilty is talking now to Phil. A sense of relief, job
:49:28. > :49:31.done today? You needed to make a point and you've done it. Yes, the
:49:32. > :49:39.last couple of weeks has not gone too well for me. I started off
:49:40. > :49:41.really well with a 6.57 and then my blocks slipped underneath me and
:49:42. > :49:45.France and I nearly fell on my face. Last week there were a couple of
:49:46. > :49:48.issues going online the scenes and my mind just fast forwarded a bit.
:49:49. > :49:52.This week I was under pressure to run a fast time to go to the
:49:53. > :49:58.Europeans and defend my title. Another thing this week, as you can
:49:59. > :50:01.tell by my voice, I got the flu, my little baby Richard Junior picks up
:50:02. > :50:06.all sort of things and he has busted onto me and I plastered onto him and
:50:07. > :50:11.vice versa. My fiance and my little baby will be watching on TV, so I
:50:12. > :50:17.hope they are proud. It puts me in a good position to defend my title.
:50:18. > :50:21.Hopefully I will get a couple of faster times! We're sorry you've not
:50:22. > :50:25.been well but we will see you in Belgrade, we hope. Thank you.
:50:26. > :50:30.STUDIO Well done Richard Kilty. Hopefully
:50:31. > :50:34.he will be on that plane to Belgrade. Next up on the track, we
:50:35. > :50:38.shall see Mo Farah. The last time we saw him, he was struggling at the
:50:39. > :50:41.Edinburgh cross-country, he said he was behind in his training. He's of
:50:42. > :50:45.course been off to Ethiopian for his altitude training and he will be
:50:46. > :50:46.hoping for a strong run today as he hopes to add more major titles this
:50:47. > :50:56.year to incredible CV. Reluctantly crouched at the starting
:50:57. > :50:59.line # The green light flashes
:51:00. > :51:06.# The flags go up # Turning and learning
:51:07. > :51:13.# They go up # Cars he's going the distance.
:51:14. > :51:18.COMMENTATOR: Mo Farah wins the gold! Bow to his superiority! Mo Farah is
:51:19. > :51:23.the world champion again! He's a double Olympic champion! Have you
:51:24. > :51:25.ever seen anything like that? He's going to get gold for Great Britain
:51:26. > :51:38.again, the double double! Well, there he is, Mo Farah. What do
:51:39. > :51:43.you give a man who has won it all? A running track. Mo Farah took some
:51:44. > :51:46.time out of his training this week to head to the track at Saint Mary
:51:47. > :51:51.'s University which was being renamed in his honour. He trained
:51:52. > :51:56.there from 2001-2011 before he moved to the USA and he was clearly happy
:51:57. > :52:00.to be back on familiar territory. He looked slightly amazed that the
:52:01. > :52:03.whole thing, didn't he? I think it is quite overwhelming! Going back to
:52:04. > :52:09.where it all started for him, I think it's a lovely touch. He has
:52:10. > :52:13.moved and will go on to inspire many people who go on to use that
:52:14. > :52:17.facility. He is a name that is just synonymous with success. I don't
:52:18. > :52:19.think there will be a man woman or child in the country who doesn't
:52:20. > :52:24.know Mo Farah and what he achieved over the past five or six years, his
:52:25. > :52:29.five world golds he has got to add to his double double Olympic golds.
:52:30. > :52:32.This is a year of saying goodbye on various fronts, the last indoor
:52:33. > :52:36.meeting he will ever race. His last indoor meet. Didn't you just get the
:52:37. > :52:42.oppression that he was in a good place mentally? He seemed very
:52:43. > :52:45.happy, very content with himself. The Birmingham crowd have been so
:52:46. > :52:50.supportive of him over so many years, it's nice that he's here
:52:51. > :52:54.today. As he takes his time to come out there for his last ever indoor
:52:55. > :53:00.race, let's not forget the hall that he has had over the past few years
:53:01. > :53:03.outdoors, he hasn't always been prolific in doors, focusing on the
:53:04. > :53:07.road as well. Listen to the reaction of the crowd. They appreciate him
:53:08. > :53:11.being here today. I wonder what we will see here, from him, Steve Cram.
:53:12. > :53:15.In Edinburgh he was wrote much off the pace and said he was behind in
:53:16. > :53:19.his training. Apart from the win, what will he be looking for today to
:53:20. > :53:22.know that he is back on track? That's a good question and I don't
:53:23. > :53:27.relieve the answer. I had a chat to him yesterday and he was at the
:53:28. > :53:31.track adults an Aries on Thursday. He said he had to go to Ethiopian
:53:32. > :53:35.and get his head down and that's exactly what he's done, but what he
:53:36. > :53:38.hasn't been able to do is test himself since then. The field here
:53:39. > :53:43.isn't a great field but they have been asked for a decent pace. But
:53:44. > :53:51.it's not going to get that fast, so it's a question of whether Mo really
:53:52. > :53:55.wants to push themselves. It would be good to get back to winning ways.
:53:56. > :53:59.But I think he will want a better indicator of where he was at than he
:54:00. > :54:03.got in Edinburgh. Edinburgh gave a medical bit of a kick of a back --
:54:04. > :54:07.kick up the backside, as he said. This gives them a chance to say OK,
:54:08. > :54:12.I've moved on from that, I'm in a bit better shape now. I don't think
:54:13. > :54:16.you need to put a time on it, I will come to the times in a minute, but a
:54:17. > :54:20.good solid run, feel-good, dominate the race, give the crowd something
:54:21. > :54:27.to cheer and get a decent time and then we all go away happy, including
:54:28. > :54:33.Mo. Either way, he did say it's "Probably" his last indoor race! He
:54:34. > :54:40.keeps putting that little word in now. Anyway, so if it is the last
:54:41. > :54:43.time we are to see him, let's hope it's a winning performance and a
:54:44. > :54:46.good one. There is the field against him.
:54:47. > :54:55.Adam Clarke is going to be doing the pacemaking. He is a regular training
:54:56. > :54:59.partner for Mo Farah now. So he knows what he's doing but he went to
:55:00. > :55:09.get that far, he's not going to be doing 3000 metres or 4000 metres. So
:55:10. > :55:14.he's given the chance to go out. Andrew Butchart was originally in
:55:15. > :55:20.the field to race. He has been in good form this year. Apart from
:55:21. > :55:23.anything else, Mo needs to show that he is still Briton's number one
:55:24. > :55:34.distance Runner, which of course he is. Crippa, cross-country fans will
:55:35. > :55:45.know him. Nick Goolab getting a chance to run here. Soufiane
:55:46. > :55:52.Elbakkali a new name for the steeplechasers. -- for the Moroccans
:55:53. > :56:01.in steeplechase. If Mo goes Reeva, some of these guys could get lapped!
:56:02. > :56:06.So, the official British record is 13.21.27. I expect Mo to be much
:56:07. > :56:15.quicker than that. Different time, different place. Mo has run quicker
:56:16. > :56:18.in doors. For record purposes, Nick Rose's time is the official British
:56:19. > :56:26.record and the official European record, which might be another
:56:27. > :56:36.target, is 13.11.13, going back to 2010. Mo is orchestrating the crowd,
:56:37. > :56:41.wants a little bit of atmosphere. I think that is what will get them
:56:42. > :56:45.moving here, Paula. Mo fancies it and I said at the beginning in
:56:46. > :56:48.answer to Gabby's question, I'm sure he wants to test himself a little
:56:49. > :56:55.bit and pushed himself at some point in the race. I was talking to him at
:56:56. > :57:00.breakfast this morning and he didn't actually know at that point that his
:57:01. > :57:06.13.10 had never been ratified as a record. That was news to him. Now I
:57:07. > :57:11.think he definitely wants to walk away from this track today as the
:57:12. > :57:15.official British record-holder. He has definitely started as if he
:57:16. > :57:19.means business, he is not hanging around at the back as we often see
:57:20. > :57:27.when he is not really committed to running a quick time. He relies on
:57:28. > :57:30.the pacemaker to just get the pace moving and then hopefully just
:57:31. > :57:35.maintain that momentum and feel good out there over the first couple of
:57:36. > :57:41.laps. Well, anyone who can go back to 1982 when Nick Rose set that
:57:42. > :57:47.record will remember a certain run of 13 minutes outdoors, which
:57:48. > :57:53.averages at 62.4 or something like that, which is about what Clarkey
:57:54. > :58:00.went through the first 100 in here. We talk about tempo and things and
:58:01. > :58:04.this is almost time trialling. He's going to be in front stretching it
:58:05. > :58:17.out. It's really how hard he wants to go, as a Clarkey just start to
:58:18. > :58:21.go. The pace is good. It's just big question of how many laps Adam
:58:22. > :58:31.Clarke can keep this sort of pace up. Fast in the early stages and
:58:32. > :58:32.that is why they are all spread out. Mo Farah sitting there in second
:58:33. > :58:39.place. Below 13 minute pace, as they go
:58:40. > :58:59.through the first 1000 metres. Eric Kynnard in the high jump. Only
:59:00. > :59:05.him and Robbie Grabarz left in. Second attempt... Gets it! So,
:59:06. > :59:12.Kynnard gets his nose in front, because Robbie Grabarz is also
:59:13. > :59:19.carrying a failure at that site. -- at that height. We saw them going
:59:20. > :59:23.toe to do in high jump terms because it is over to Robbie Grabarz to see
:59:24. > :59:27.if he can match what the American has just achieved, two metres 31.
:59:28. > :59:39.So then. That was the lead for Kynnard. Robbie Grabarz is capable
:59:40. > :59:43.of clearing this height... Little skip into that, just a minor error.
:59:44. > :59:50.That was in fact his third attempt. So game over, he is out, but a good
:59:51. > :00:01.performance for Robbie Grabarz. 2.28, a season's best. We wish him
:00:02. > :00:08.all the best going into the European Indoor Championships. 2.28 today, a
:00:09. > :00:15.season's best, very creditable indeed. They are still well strung
:00:16. > :00:18.out and the pace has come off a bit. It was interesting earlier, Colin
:00:19. > :00:26.and I were just chatting about it, how Adam Clarke was going to stop
:00:27. > :00:30.and Mo said keep going, keep going. By the way, there's going to be some
:00:31. > :00:35.pain out there because there are people in that lead pack who are
:00:36. > :00:37.running at a pace which, if you can keep it going, brilliant, but you
:00:38. > :00:45.suspect there's going to be some real pain for one or two in the last
:00:46. > :00:49.1000 metres or so. Anyway, Adam Clarke has done as many laps as he
:00:50. > :00:52.can. The Olympic finalist is the only one at the minute close to Mo
:00:53. > :00:56.Farah and the others are just starting to stretch out or the
:00:57. > :00:59.strung out a bit. Andrew Heyes is doing a great job there in the
:01:00. > :01:14.yellow vest. In third place. You have to bear in mind there is
:01:15. > :01:20.only six men who have ever run under 13 minutes, dropping off at that
:01:21. > :01:27.pace now and if Mo is looking for under 13.10, even that is a good
:01:28. > :01:32.pace, and that is a slower race. Just slowing down a bit, Paula. The
:01:33. > :01:38.pack is behind Mo Farah, definitely the likes of Andrew Heyes will be
:01:39. > :01:42.glad of that pace because now in territory that gives them more of a
:01:43. > :01:46.chance of shooting for personal best and certainly a lot of these guys
:01:47. > :01:55.have not even run 5000m indoors before. Running really well. And
:01:56. > :02:03.behind Ryan Gregson -- Andy Hayes, is Rop. So running well indoors.
:02:04. > :02:11.Nobody a real danger to Mo in this race, but they can stay behind him,
:02:12. > :02:17.Mo just happy to control this race and basically check the screen every
:02:18. > :02:21.time and weight and keep the momentum moving to see who is able
:02:22. > :02:27.to stay with it and who is looking dangerous behind him. Yes, it has
:02:28. > :02:31.dropped to a steadier pace and that is why the pack is still with him as
:02:32. > :02:35.I would expect the pack to drop off had he kept the pace. Not running
:02:36. > :02:44.slow, he is keeping it going steady rather than really fast. I think if
:02:45. > :02:49.he gets the 3000m, that is when he will push on. He will want to get
:02:50. > :02:54.3,000 out of the way, around eight minutes to come back on the last
:02:55. > :03:02.two. He has that ability that nobody else has on the last reef -- 300, in
:03:03. > :03:06.the back of his pocket if he is not feeling great. He has, and he knows
:03:07. > :03:13.he has this victory whatever he does today and whatever anybody else
:03:14. > :03:18.does. It is a shame his opponent is not here because his form this year,
:03:19. > :03:26.it would have been nice to see him and it would change the way Mo is
:03:27. > :03:30.racing. And he would go on I hope the race well in the summer. Andrew
:03:31. > :03:38.Heyes not letting him have it all his own way, moving up, letting him
:03:39. > :03:47.know he is here with Nick Goolab, to get the race moving. Two British
:03:48. > :03:54.runners going past Mo Farah, Mo just going to win this today. Nick Goolab
:03:55. > :03:58.chasing a 3000m time. Coming up the 3000m and Nick Goolab trying to run
:03:59. > :04:05.his best 3000m time and just crossing the line, and I will have
:04:06. > :04:12.to check because I think that is just outside the qualifying mark
:04:13. > :04:16.required. People wandering why Andrew Heyes has stepped off and Mo
:04:17. > :04:25.must be wondering, what on Earth is going on? Mo managing to keep it
:04:26. > :04:28.under eight minutes, 7.56, a good time here. This is the part of the
:04:29. > :04:36.race he can't slip and leave too much to do in the last 1,000 metres.
:04:37. > :04:41.Now he can rest a little bit behind Albert Rop. Just to clear up what I
:04:42. > :04:47.think was happening, those two gave the chance to qualify in the
:04:48. > :04:53.European Indoors in belt grade and they were just outside it in the
:04:54. > :04:57.end, but fairly close -- in Belgrade. Moving past Mo and I hope
:04:58. > :05:04.the guys were warned in the race it was a race within a race going on. I
:05:05. > :05:10.think they missed it by a couple of tenths, 7.53 flat. If you want to
:05:11. > :05:14.chat about everything including the new British record by Laura Muir
:05:15. > :05:20.after the live action on the red button, on the BBC sport website as
:05:21. > :05:25.well, don't forget, hang in there and once we finish with the action,
:05:26. > :05:29.we will give you some analysis and chat about everything. Including,
:05:30. > :05:38.what is Mo Farah going to do here? The crowd sensing a bit of pressure
:05:39. > :05:43.being applied by Albert Rop. Morhad Amdouni having a very good race, and
:05:44. > :05:48.that is something we have seen from Mo many times, picking this up. I
:05:49. > :05:54.thought today he would have wanted to make a bit of a statement. But so
:05:55. > :06:00.far, up to this point, it looks like he will just settle for the win. The
:06:01. > :06:05.only question now, at what point does he let rip? Right at the end or
:06:06. > :06:10.does he make a wrong run? Maybe he is leaving it for the last 200m
:06:11. > :06:16.until the bell to take a fast approach. His confidence did take a
:06:17. > :06:21.knock and the new into Edinburgh he was not in top shape, I don't think
:06:22. > :06:25.he expected to get beaten quite so convincingly and he certainly went
:06:26. > :06:30.away to Ethiopia and he trained really hard and the thought of
:06:31. > :06:33.testing himself out here, he is testing himself but not a time trial
:06:34. > :06:38.over the long distance. Definitely racing today and check trying
:06:39. > :06:42.different things and is taking the chance to enjoy the race and the
:06:43. > :06:52.atmosphere and the energy from the crowd. 4,000 metres in template 36.
:06:53. > :06:56.A big last 1,000 metres here from Mo Farah, he is well within sight of
:06:57. > :07:04.the British record that stands, the official British record of Nick
:07:05. > :07:08.Rose, 13.20 one. The thought of that have gone at this point, Mo just
:07:09. > :07:14.thinking, put pressure on, I don't mind the pressure from Albert Rop, I
:07:15. > :07:18.will come up with the answers and I will wait and do what I normally do.
:07:19. > :07:23.The crowd just getting a little bit nervous but they should not worry. I
:07:24. > :07:27.think Mo likes to get the crowd wound up and on the edge of their
:07:28. > :07:32.seats a little bit and to mix things up. Not having it all his own way,
:07:33. > :07:38.Albert Rop doing a great job stringing this out and keeping the
:07:39. > :07:49.pace moving and putting pressure on Soufiane El Bakkali. Mo comfortable
:07:50. > :07:56.and composed, biding his time. Morhad Amdouni working hard in third
:07:57. > :08:00.place, I don't think he has the kick to challenge Mo Farah. Rop knows he
:08:01. > :08:03.does not and that is why he is stretching it out, his last race was
:08:04. > :08:10.a cross-country race and he is taking on Mo Farah now in a sprint
:08:11. > :08:21.finish, we know how that will work out. And behind them, the Moroccan
:08:22. > :08:24.Soufiane El Bakkali. Mo has gone to the front, not kicking yet, just
:08:25. > :08:32.wants to control this, it does not want anybody sticking up -- sneaking
:08:33. > :08:40.up on him, he wants a clear sight. 300m to go. The crowd is rising to
:08:41. > :08:48.Mo Farah. The noise is getting louder and louder. Rop coming back,
:08:49. > :08:56.200 to go, Mo Farah holds him up, checking the danger. Another back
:08:57. > :09:02.marker to be negotiated. Rop still here and Mo Farah has not got this
:09:03. > :09:07.yet. The familiar high knees and the familiar arms, trying to drive
:09:08. > :09:12.himself forward. Another look behind and Rop is still there and Mo Farah
:09:13. > :09:17.has to give the something at the end, he is being pushed to the line,
:09:18. > :09:22.but Mo Farah gets it and that is a finish that is so familiar. It has
:09:23. > :09:28.taken him to a new European record, as well as a British record, a new
:09:29. > :09:34.personal best, at for Mo Farah, driven on by good competition by
:09:35. > :09:40.Rop. He obviously decided a couple of laps out, this is about winning
:09:41. > :09:48.today, and he still had to dig deep. Mo Farah picking it up at the end, a
:09:49. > :09:54.good blast 400m but Rop gave him something to worry about. The result
:09:55. > :10:00.we thought and we wanted. But not a massive but, he was pushed. And yet
:10:01. > :10:05.again, Mo probably says that is a good thing. I think he will think it
:10:06. > :10:09.was a good thing when he goes away training in Ethiopia. I just think
:10:10. > :10:14.he was carrying a bit in his legs into this race and he did not feel
:10:15. > :10:22.that good and certainly the race was taken to him. The deciding factor
:10:23. > :10:27.could be the invincibility of Mo and I don't think Rop elite he could
:10:28. > :10:34.beat him over the last lap and close him down. Mo normally moves away so
:10:35. > :10:39.convincingly and is not doing that today, maybe he had something left
:10:40. > :10:44.in the tank in case Rop came alongside and challenged him. I do
:10:45. > :10:49.think he has that 13.10 in his eyes down the home straight, but working
:10:50. > :10:56.hard. I don't think you would expect Rop to challenge him so closely. Is
:10:57. > :11:00.that a new thing? What was that? Maybe he is a bit tired! I don't
:11:01. > :11:04.know what it was! I am glad I did not have to think about things like
:11:05. > :11:10.that, running hard down the straight and looking for the finish line and
:11:11. > :11:14.you have to think about your victory salute, well done, Mo, a new
:11:15. > :11:18.European record taking the British record and a new personal best and a
:11:19. > :11:23.number of personal bests and national records behind him, a very
:11:24. > :11:29.fast finish to a race that started quickly and it dropped away a bit
:11:30. > :11:45.and it came back again on the 13.10. Well done, Mo. Back to winning ways.
:11:46. > :11:55.Confirmation of the time. And that is just over a second quicker than
:11:56. > :11:59.he has run before. The time before we mentioned was not ratified,
:12:00. > :12:03.sometimes there are reasons records do and do not get ratified but this
:12:04. > :12:11.time, Mo Farah can call himself the indoor record-holder for the 5000m.
:12:12. > :12:16.That is a good throw! Did anybody catch it? In the upper tier!
:12:17. > :12:22.Somebody is going to savour that. Well done, mate. He was the only one
:12:23. > :12:29.who could go and look for it, well done. Just another of those. Mo
:12:30. > :12:32.Farah, the shoeless wonder! Anyway... Just to confirm that
:12:33. > :12:47.European and British record. We going on to the red button next
:12:48. > :12:51.for a forum and you will hear from Mo Farah and from other athletes
:12:52. > :12:56.today, the European Indoor Championships coming up as well in
:12:57. > :13:03.March. Final School next, the match today with highlights of those fifth
:13:04. > :13:07.round Games. And the European Championships as well. Denise, your
:13:08. > :13:12.performers of the really competitive but it has to be Mo Farah, he was
:13:13. > :13:16.just majestic and it is his last time racing. Record for him and
:13:17. > :13:20.Laura Muir and you can hear from her on the Red Button. If you can't join
:13:21. > :13:26.us next, we will see you in Belgrade, what a great afternoon it
:13:27. > :13:30.has been! It is going to be gold for Britain!
:13:31. > :13:34.What a performance from Johnson-Thompson.
:13:35. > :13:42.One of the greatest races in history!
:13:43. > :13:55.Kim Collins is going to get there! The Manchester run is under way.
:13:56. > :14:25.Robert Burns. Bagpipes. Stovies. Billy Connolly, yeah.
