0:00:14 > 0:00:18Colin Jackson has won his first gold medal. He is the champion of the

0:00:18 > 0:00:26world.Looking on not just an aberration but in all. --

0:00:26 > 0:00:42admiration. He is the world champion.

0:01:03 > 0:01:08One, two, three.

0:01:13 > 0:01:19Four, five, six.

0:01:24 > 0:01:31And it's over. It is the fast show today in Birmingham. Christian

0:01:31 > 0:01:36Coleman the new world record holder competing in the men's 60 metres.

0:01:36 > 0:01:40And the big British headline last night Katarina Johnson-Thompson, she

0:01:40 > 0:01:45took gold in the pentathlon. But fantastic sport everywhere we

0:01:45 > 0:01:55looked. Actually thrilling long jump taken by Echevarria of Cuba. While

0:01:55 > 0:02:00Murielle Ahoure took the 60 metres and the first ever gold for the

0:02:00 > 0:02:05Ivory Coast in a major championships. A wonderful evening.

0:02:05 > 0:02:09But we are back for more. Good morning to you on this lovely

0:02:09 > 0:02:13Saturday. I do not know what it's like where you are but we made it

0:02:13 > 0:02:19into date without too much trouble. Hopefully we will have a sell-out

0:02:19 > 0:02:23crowd as we expect today further second full day, the third day of

0:02:23 > 0:02:27the world indoor athletics Championships. I'm joined by Denise

0:02:27 > 0:02:31Lewis and Michael Johnson who have coordinated beautifully on the

0:02:31 > 0:02:36wardrobe front! Never failed to impress. A wonderful evening last

0:02:36 > 0:02:44night. And we often, actually I think we are honest in athletics

0:02:44 > 0:02:49when a competition does not meet the standards we expect. And the tenth

0:02:49 > 0:02:55of, a great British moment for Katarina Johnson-Thompson. -- the

0:02:55 > 0:02:59pentathlon. And specifically for her because of what she has been through

0:02:59 > 0:03:03in major championships to date. Great to see her finally just

0:03:03 > 0:03:07getting it all together. For me not so much about the medals but the

0:03:07 > 0:03:13conduct and the manner in which she performed consistently well. There

0:03:13 > 0:03:19was no real highlight as such. Maybe the shot put for me but generally no

0:03:19 > 0:03:22highlight but just steady performances and taking the

0:03:22 > 0:03:26opportunity to win when actually she should. I thought it was a great

0:03:26 > 0:03:31performance and I hope that she just kicks on from here mentally that she

0:03:31 > 0:03:35can put it together. You can only be two is in front of you, the field

0:03:35 > 0:03:38that there, and she took that opportunity and that is what I

0:03:38 > 0:03:44imagine she will take away from that.I do not think matters about

0:03:44 > 0:03:51the field, I do not think that this was less of a field. Without Usain

0:03:51 > 0:03:55Bolt. This was about her coming into the competition is favoured. And

0:03:55 > 0:04:01being able to live up to the expectations she had for herself and

0:04:01 > 0:04:06the fans have for her and being able to put in a solid performance

0:04:06 > 0:04:10without any disruption or let downs without any mistakes. And also I do

0:04:10 > 0:04:18not think it was about that score either even though she was just shy

0:04:18 > 0:04:23of the world record. It was not about the record or about the points

0:04:23 > 0:04:29but just proving to herself she could get through the competition.

0:04:29 > 0:04:34Unlike Laura Muir say who needed to get on the podium and may be to

0:04:34 > 0:04:39herself she could compete with the rest, this was about proving to

0:04:39 > 0:04:44herself that she could get through a competition mistakes free.Without

0:04:44 > 0:04:49letting myself down in any event. In her interview afterwards she said

0:04:49 > 0:04:52said something interesting, you know that she is a very reflective

0:04:52 > 0:04:56athlete, she has been through a lot in terms of where do I go, just

0:04:56 > 0:05:02focus on the jumps, keep focusing. Of course those go through your head

0:05:02 > 0:05:06but she said she was pleased to be able to rectify the home crowd

0:05:06 > 0:05:12situation. Because in her eyes she failed in London in front of the

0:05:12 > 0:05:16home crowd. And for her it was important to write those wrongs.

0:05:16 > 0:05:20There is an assumption I think when you have a home games no matter

0:05:20 > 0:05:25where you rise to the occasion and it does not always happen for

0:05:25 > 0:05:33athletes. It is an advantage but not always and sometimes you can feel

0:05:33 > 0:05:38overwhelmed and maybe Katarina has sometimes underperformed or made

0:05:38 > 0:05:43mistakes. But this was the chance to deliver and there was a maturity

0:05:43 > 0:05:48about her performance that I liked. We saw some of that in the World

0:05:48 > 0:05:53Championships even though she finished fifth. She just came in

0:05:53 > 0:05:58thinking stay in the moment. That was key for her, to stay in the

0:05:58 > 0:06:01moment. Because personally I think that she thinks too much about the

0:06:01 > 0:06:08outcome instead of staying with the events.Maybe she needs all of her

0:06:08 > 0:06:12events on one day!I think it is well known amongst athletes and

0:06:12 > 0:06:16coaches around the world that when you have that great opportunity to

0:06:16 > 0:06:21participate in a home Championships that it adds a tremendous amount of

0:06:21 > 0:06:26pressure and stress. And it takes you out of your typical competition

0:06:26 > 0:06:31preparation mode where you go to a foreign country, going to the

0:06:31 > 0:06:34situation will you do not know, it keeps you on your guard and keeps

0:06:34 > 0:06:39all your defences up. You know you have to plan specifically for that

0:06:39 > 0:06:41but at home you tend to let the guard down and most athletes know

0:06:41 > 0:06:47that and much coaches know it. Here in Great Britain since London, with

0:06:47 > 0:06:54Mo Farah, all those successes, there was so much focus on that. Jessica

0:06:54 > 0:06:59Ennis. They all said yes I was buoyed up by the crowd and it can be

0:06:59 > 0:07:03that way for certain athletes. I had that in Atlanta. But for most

0:07:03 > 0:07:09athletes it is not the case. It is a pressure packed situation and the

0:07:09 > 0:07:13expectation is high. Then you start to question whether you can rise to

0:07:13 > 0:07:17the occasion and if you fail the failure is bigger.Well Chris

0:07:17 > 0:07:24O'Hare, we will hear from him later on about the pressure he felt in

0:07:24 > 0:07:27London and it was discombobulatedly to walk out of the hotel and for

0:07:27 > 0:07:31people to know who he was and asked for his autograph. All those things

0:07:31 > 0:07:38that suddenly you have to deal with that you do not in Istanbul or Doha.

0:07:38 > 0:07:43And Katarina in one month will not be in front of a home crowd so maybe

0:07:43 > 0:07:48this was a great win for her but at home also and now maybe she can

0:07:48 > 0:07:52relax a little bit. Take some confidence and take a little bit of

0:07:52 > 0:07:57pressure off in a few different ways.Sometimes an athlete needs to

0:07:57 > 0:08:00be able to draw on the experiences and she has had a few fantastic

0:08:00 > 0:08:07highlights here. That 198 in the World Championships last year that

0:08:07 > 0:08:12she jumped, fantastic. But to be able to draw on those experiences of

0:08:12 > 0:08:17composure and conduct and mental strength, you need that and I'm glad

0:08:17 > 0:08:23she managed to deliver it here.I think that is a plus. Can we talk a

0:08:23 > 0:08:33bit about Echevarria put up -- Echevarria. That was a wonderful

0:08:33 > 0:08:39competition.Fantastic competition and we've seen this in the long

0:08:39 > 0:08:45jump, it has become one of the premier events in athletics. This

0:08:45 > 0:08:4919-year-old, that huge jump and he knows it. He is a very confident

0:08:49 > 0:08:57competitor, you onto the scene. Not at all intimidated by the veterans.

0:08:57 > 0:09:05He came out ready to compete. Great coming off the board, fantastic

0:09:05 > 0:09:11technique, and education for us last night. Not many people can execute

0:09:11 > 0:09:17that and he did it perfectly. It was a great competition, I think the

0:09:17 > 0:09:24long jump does not get the attention it deserves. And the competition is

0:09:24 > 0:09:27what makes the event so great to watch. And that is what is great

0:09:27 > 0:09:32about the sport. And I'm really tired of people talking about

0:09:32 > 0:09:39personalities. We had Usain Bolt, we will not get his like again but that

0:09:39 > 0:09:43is not what the sport was about. Fantastic we had him for ten years

0:09:43 > 0:09:47but you will not get another. But you have amazing competition between

0:09:47 > 0:09:52athletes. And I think this sport does not highlight that enough. It

0:09:52 > 0:09:56is not about a group of individuals trying to jump against themselves.

0:09:56 > 0:10:00They were competing against each other. Two centimetre increments.

0:10:00 > 0:10:06And the crowd really enjoying it. Responding to one another, yes.I

0:10:06 > 0:10:11will jump further than you. It is having that strength and depth in an

0:10:11 > 0:10:15event particularly like the long jump. It is actually getting better

0:10:15 > 0:10:23and better. I like the spread of the countries vying for the medals. I

0:10:23 > 0:10:30would like to see that a bit more. We will see the triple jump later

0:10:30 > 0:10:37on, not such strength and depth as we had in the past.Well certain

0:10:37 > 0:10:41events are getting very competitive. And we will highlight those

0:10:41 > 0:10:45competitions and look at the medal table. Great Britain are up there in

0:10:45 > 0:10:51joint second with Cuba and those two medals of course Cuba getting their

0:10:51 > 0:10:58medal as well as Echevarria from the pentathlon. And the Ivory Coast are

0:10:58 > 0:11:01topping the table, the first time they've taken gold at the world

0:11:01 > 0:11:06indoors thanks to Murielle Ahoure in the 60 metres and the silver of

0:11:06 > 0:11:13course. So night for them. Let's take a look at where the medals

0:11:13 > 0:11:18might come today, which events up for grabs. Well past morning in the

0:11:18 > 0:11:22triple jump final but dominated this morning by the heats of the men's

0:11:22 > 0:11:2860s. The fast guys on show at 1015 and many men want to become fastest

0:11:28 > 0:11:35in the world. Then at five past 11 the heptathlon continues with the

0:11:35 > 0:11:40pole vault, which I love. Almost touching the roof. Ten past 11 the

0:11:40 > 0:11:441500 metres heats. Chris O'Hare and Jake Wightman looking to progress

0:11:44 > 0:11:54from those.

0:11:57 > 0:12:04Then Oskan-Clarke hoping to progress in the 800 metres. Let's talk a bit

0:12:04 > 0:12:13about the fast guys. You have an

0:12:23 > 0:12:27interest in Su Bingtian. We take data on all kinds of athletes in all

0:12:27 > 0:12:34sports and he is just rating off the charts in his ability to produce in

0:12:34 > 0:12:39the horizontal direction which is what you want coming off the blocks.

0:12:39 > 0:12:45He is able to keep very close to the ground and just put forced back the

0:12:45 > 0:12:52way no one else can. He has run under ten seconds for the 100

0:12:52 > 0:13:00metres, the Chinese record-holder. But his issue, he's not able to

0:13:00 > 0:13:03produce the same forced into the ground which then translates into

0:13:03 > 0:13:09speed. But that suits him well for the 60 metres. So I expect he could

0:13:09 > 0:13:13really figure in the medal positions and challenge for top but of course

0:13:13 > 0:13:17Christian Coleman and Ronnie Baker from the US have been amazing this

0:13:17 > 0:13:23year. Christian Coleman breaking the indoor 60 world record and silver

0:13:23 > 0:13:30last year.Could be a force for the future. Well let's have a look at Su

0:13:30 > 0:13:38Bingtian. Illustrating what you just said that great run in Glasgow. He

0:13:38 > 0:13:41is lower than anyone else if you look at his chest and torso and how

0:13:41 > 0:13:45much lower he is to the ground. Not just because of height but because

0:13:45 > 0:13:50he is able to keep that angle and they had no much longer than most

0:13:50 > 0:13:55other athletes. That is because of his core strength and just that

0:13:55 > 0:14:00freakish ability to do some that many other athletes cannot do. That

0:14:00 > 0:14:06is just a natural ability. But he is strong and powerful. And very

0:14:06 > 0:14:10confident in the start. He knows he has a great start and if he gets out

0:14:10 > 0:14:14quickly and gets great reaction that he will have a naturally great

0:14:14 > 0:14:21drive. The only issue for him is how long he can hold the lead on folks

0:14:21 > 0:14:24like Christian Coleman. We have spoken about mental ability and he

0:14:24 > 0:14:28is not that person that will be phased by someone like Chris

0:14:28 > 0:14:31Coleman. More about him later but the

0:14:31 > 0:14:38heptathlete are out. Steve Cram is the first of the 60-metre hurdles.

0:14:40 > 0:14:44Let's look at how they stand coming into this, Kevin Mayer and Damian

0:14:44 > 0:14:49Warner will go in the next heat, but Maicel Uibo and Kai Kazmirek against

0:14:49 > 0:14:54each other here, Kazmirek is the better hurdler, he has a chance of

0:14:54 > 0:14:57moving up into third position even after this first event. Linden

0:14:57 > 0:15:05Victor not taking part, he was in 11th position overnight. He decided

0:15:05 > 0:15:15not to bother today. So Uibo, Gado of France, Kazmirek in-form, and

0:15:15 > 0:15:22Ziemek of the USA, in sixth position overnight. The 60 hurdles is graded

0:15:22 > 0:15:28on their season's and personal bests. Uibo gets away well, Carnegie

0:15:28 > 0:15:36close to Kazmirek? Kazmirek showing his class, 7.95, a personal best,

0:15:36 > 0:15:46get in! Well done! He knows that he has got the chance to win a medal at

0:15:46 > 0:15:50these World Indoor Championships, and he needed a good start today to

0:15:50 > 0:15:54keep the pressure on Uibo, don't think he has got a chance of keeping

0:15:54 > 0:15:59the bronze. So Kazmirek with a personal best, 7.95. The

0:15:59 > 0:16:05multi-eventers doing well, Colin, the same yesterday. Not so much in

0:16:05 > 0:16:11the sprints, although

0:16:15 > 0:16:18the sprints, although Ahoure was brilliant last night.Brilliant

0:16:18 > 0:16:23start by the German athletes, drove hard, made very few mistakes, and

0:16:23 > 0:16:27when you are a little bit fatigued, a little bit tired, they can creep

0:16:27 > 0:16:34in, especially when it is not really your event. So today came a massive

0:16:34 > 0:16:43chunk of macro his season's best, is previous season's best was 8.09, so

0:16:43 > 0:16:46a brand-new personal best, you can understand why his reaction was so

0:16:46 > 0:16:56positive. Good job, happy for him. Well, a personal best, 7.95, but

0:16:56 > 0:17:02Uibo has also been given a personal best, 8.19, so advantage to

0:17:02 > 0:17:05Kazmirek, not much between them before the race, just 14 points, but

0:17:05 > 0:17:13he goes into third place overall. STUDIO: Let's have a little luck at

0:17:13 > 0:17:17the standings for the men's heptathlon, Kevin Mayer, who is in

0:17:17 > 0:17:22the same training group as KJT in France, the new king of the

0:17:22 > 0:17:28decathlon after last season in London with Ashton Eaton retiring,

0:17:28 > 0:17:31coming here, obviously intent on taking another global Crown. Before

0:17:31 > 0:17:38that, he was 45 points in the lead from his nearest rival, a healthy

0:17:38 > 0:17:43rivalry with Damian Warner of Canada.Yes, but a fantastic

0:17:43 > 0:17:47heptathlon in prospect over this next day or so. I just think Kevin

0:17:47 > 0:17:51is one of those athletes that, again, has not really been getting

0:17:51 > 0:17:55the attention that he thoroughly deserves. The set the European

0:17:55 > 0:18:00record a couple of years ago, stunning in Belgrade at the European

0:18:00 > 0:18:05indoor championships last year, setting five personal bests, and

0:18:05 > 0:18:09again yesterday, really dominant from the get go, and other PB in the

0:18:09 > 0:18:1660m. He still has his best events to come, which is pole-vault, just a

0:18:16 > 0:18:22stunning athlete, super focused, and he is looking good. And he is at

0:18:22 > 0:18:28there at the moment, ready for his second day. He is looking in great

0:18:28 > 0:18:33shape, a real kind of confidence competitor, isn't he? Not afraid to

0:18:33 > 0:18:38show that he is enjoying himself, having a good time. Yesterday we saw

0:18:38 > 0:18:48a lot of glare from him.Yeah, he... This is the personal best run of the

0:18:48 > 0:18:5260m I was talking about, really relaxed, doesn't seem to be best out

0:18:52 > 0:18:58of the blocks, but once he gets into his stride, just really lovely to

0:18:58 > 0:19:03watch. Remember, these athletes are always having to compromise how much

0:19:03 > 0:19:09they attributed to each event, but that 60m was really good. This is

0:19:09 > 0:19:13probably his weakest event, the long jump, he always struggles there for

0:19:13 > 0:19:17some reason, but got it right yesterday, and watch the reaction

0:19:17 > 0:19:24when he gets the result. His sprinting looks good, good

0:19:24 > 0:19:27technique, but is long jump, maybe he could get a little bit more.

0:19:27 > 0:19:33Where he is lacking is that he doesn't have a lot of speed, he is

0:19:33 > 0:19:39technically very good and efficient, and that is why runs a good 60, but

0:19:39 > 0:19:44there is no speed on the runway. For his height, he is not the biggest

0:19:44 > 0:19:50decathlete at there of recent times, but that shot put was just

0:19:50 > 0:19:57phenomenal for what he can produce, 15.67.And of course in the high

0:19:57 > 0:20:02jump yesterday as well, like you say, reminds me a bit of Jess, not

0:20:02 > 0:20:07the tallest, but gets over some pretty good heights and clearances.

0:20:07 > 0:20:11It is just, again, the consistency of performance, being able to trust

0:20:11 > 0:20:16in your technique, just delivering when it counts. Solid high jump, he

0:20:16 > 0:20:20will be disappointed, because he is capable of jumping close to 2.1

0:20:20 > 0:20:27zero.But in good form today, and Warner is the man pushing him, the

0:20:27 > 0:20:29Canadian who may well have fancied himself as being the air apparent to

0:20:29 > 0:20:36Ashton Eaton.I think he did, and I don't think he expected that Kevin

0:20:36 > 0:20:40Mayer would come along the way he did, and it should create a very

0:20:40 > 0:20:43good opportunity between those two over the next three years, but at

0:20:43 > 0:20:49this point it seems that Warner is in a class by himself. Dunnock Kevin

0:20:49 > 0:20:59Mayer? Sorry, yes.Has made some changes to his training structure,

0:20:59 > 0:21:03moved back to the gentleman I knew as the technical and head coach of

0:21:03 > 0:21:08the Canadian team and that has given in...I can hear everybody at home

0:21:08 > 0:21:12saying, why aren't there any British men in this? I am going to come back

0:21:12 > 0:21:16to that which you two, have a think about that, as to why that is. We

0:21:16 > 0:21:23can answer the question from yesterday, decathlete or have moved

0:21:23 > 0:21:25into individual events, Michael came up with a brilliant one. Andrew

0:21:25 > 0:21:30Cotter might be scratching his head about that.

0:21:30 > 0:21:33Constantly scratching my head! The second heat in the 60 hurdles, Kevin

0:21:33 > 0:21:38Mayer goes here, Damian Warner as well, so we have the first and

0:21:38 > 0:21:42second at the moment in the overall standings, just waiting for the big

0:21:42 > 0:21:47introductions of the athletes to the arena. An arena which is slowly and

0:21:47 > 0:21:53steadily filling up, difficult to get here as much as anything. Jan

0:21:53 > 0:21:58Dolezal, seventh overall, the Czech athlete. These are the quicker

0:21:58 > 0:22:03hurdlers. Damian Warner, in-form events yesterday, three personal

0:22:03 > 0:22:11bests, and you can ask for no more than that. -- in four events.

0:22:13 > 0:22:15than that. -- in four events. The event leader, from France, Kevin

0:22:15 > 0:22:29Mayer!01 second, Mayer in front. -- Warner second. Dominik Distelberger,

0:22:29 > 0:22:35the Austrian, down the rankings in ninth place, a very good hurdler.

0:22:35 > 0:22:40Twice silver-medallist at these championships, but fifth at the

0:22:40 > 0:22:48moment.And finally, for the Netherlands, Eelco Sintnicolaas!A

0:22:48 > 0:22:52regular in multi eventing for many years now, able to somehow get close

0:22:52 > 0:22:55to as personal best in the second day, he could make a big move up

0:22:55 > 0:23:01from tenth place close to the top five, but he has been a little bit

0:23:01 > 0:23:12away from his very finest form. Just, again, to look at the overall

0:23:12 > 0:23:18standings and where Mayer is, certainly the favourite for gold,

0:23:18 > 0:23:22but lots of variables in the pole vault. The chances of getting close

0:23:22 > 0:23:25to Ashton Eaton's world record slipped with a moderate high jump

0:23:25 > 0:23:32that Denise was talking about, he has done 2.10. Damian Warner had an

0:23:32 > 0:23:37outstanding first day, Mayer is 35 points behind the schedule of his

0:23:37 > 0:23:43European record, 45 points

0:23:44 > 0:23:46European record, 45 points ahead of Warner, but Mayer is very strong on

0:23:46 > 0:23:58the second day. So Mayer goes in lane four here, a season's best of

0:23:58 > 0:24:057.79, also a personal best. Damian Warner is the fastest hurdler here,

0:24:05 > 0:24:097.63 is his personal best, outstanding time. Mayer will just

0:24:09 > 0:24:17try to keep pace with Warner. Still fast enough, 7.67, not the cleanest

0:24:17 > 0:24:22race from Warner, but he knows how good that is, because he has the

0:24:22 > 0:24:27pace between the barriers. Mayer run pretty well, but he was left by

0:24:27 > 0:24:31Damian Warner.Good strong run from the Canadian, got out the blocks

0:24:31 > 0:24:35really well, clad at the first and second hurdles, but did pull it

0:24:35 > 0:24:39back. If he didn't make those crucial mistakes, I think he would

0:24:39 > 0:24:44have been very close to his personal best. Not far off, we are looking at

0:24:44 > 0:24:49Mayer, a little bit frustrated with his run, but Warner not far off

0:24:49 > 0:24:53being a quality hurdler on his own, he could compete in this event.A

0:24:53 > 0:24:59time of 7.67, you will see where that would feature among the best

0:24:59 > 0:25:02hurdlers in the world, very competent as a hurdler, technically,

0:25:02 > 0:25:05and when you grace that with his speed, you get a decent performance

0:25:05 > 0:25:12indoors. S look at this head on, Andrew, look at one, seven strides,

0:25:12 > 0:25:16smashing into the first hurdle, which is crucial, the acceleration

0:25:16 > 0:25:20part of the race, and you don't want to make any mistakes, but he is good

0:25:20 > 0:25:30enough to still pull himself through.He is a 10.15 man over

0:25:30 > 0:25:34100m, fastest ever decathlete, so he has got that pace, and that was a

0:25:34 > 0:25:38little bit untidy. You don't want to make those mistakes, they can be

0:25:38 > 0:25:42crucial, especially when we are talking about vital points. Each

0:25:42 > 0:25:45inch that he pulls away from Mayer makes it more difficult for the

0:25:45 > 0:25:50young Frenchman to hang onto his title. The other story in that race

0:25:50 > 0:25:54was Oleksiy Kasyanov, fifth place coming into this, almost had a

0:25:54 > 0:26:01refusal at a couple of barriers, 17.75 is just a shade outside his

0:26:01 > 0:26:07personal best(!) He will score very little indeed, Kasyanov will not

0:26:07 > 0:26:13feature in the overall standings. But a great run from Damian Warner

0:26:13 > 0:26:16again, 7.83 for Kevin Mayer, just outside his personal best, not a bad

0:26:16 > 0:26:17run.

0:26:20 > 0:26:25So we are getting ready now for the 60m heats, and going in the first of

0:26:25 > 0:26:32those is the current world record holder, recent new world record for

0:26:32 > 0:26:34Christian Coleman, the man who was part of one of the big dramas in

0:26:34 > 0:26:39London, one of the huge stories, the dethroning of Usain Bolt by Justin

0:26:39 > 0:26:43Gatlin, and this was the man wedged in the middle of the controversial

0:26:43 > 0:26:47sandwich, almost like his story was lost a little bit in that whole

0:26:47 > 0:26:53thing, that pantomime.It was - and it shouldn't have been, because he

0:26:53 > 0:26:57is just a fantastic athlete, and he could have a very impressive future

0:26:57 > 0:27:00ahead of him. Silver-medallist last year, and you watching get some

0:27:00 > 0:27:06amazing stats, this is probably what we will see today in the 60, but not

0:27:06 > 0:27:10able to hold it, this is what he will have been working on in the off

0:27:10 > 0:27:17season, the whole field coming back on him between 70 and 100m. But he

0:27:17 > 0:27:21still held on to the 100m silver medal last year in London. A great

0:27:21 > 0:27:29athlete, short in stature, only five so you don't see a lot of 100m

0:27:29 > 0:27:38runners that

0:27:38 > 0:27:40runners that are 5'8", that is tough, he loses the force and the

0:27:40 > 0:27:45power at the end of the race because he's just not that big. But he has

0:27:45 > 0:27:50got a great start, as we saw there, and I think most people are coming

0:27:50 > 0:27:56into this indoor season, the 60m world record will be in his sights,

0:27:56 > 0:28:02if we can see the 60 from the 100 in London at the World Championships.

0:28:02 > 0:28:09Could he go lower here? The code, his world record is at altitude, but

0:28:09 > 0:28:15he ran under the world record early in the season but it didn't count,

0:28:15 > 0:28:21because it was not at a major meet. That did not count, but that was at

0:28:21 > 0:28:28sea level. I think he can go faster, that wasn't his best race. But his

0:28:28 > 0:28:32height may preclude him lowering Usain Bolt's record, well, not just

0:28:32 > 0:28:36the height, the fact it is such an amazing record.Look, that world

0:28:36 > 0:28:40record of Usain Bolt, you never say that records will not be broken in

0:28:40 > 0:28:47your lifetime, but that may not be broken in our lifetime! Look, 9.58,

0:28:47 > 0:28:51that is 0.2 almost better than anybody else has run in history, you

0:28:51 > 0:28:56don't just come out because you are now the next person out to run a

0:28:56 > 0:29:02world record, it doesn't work like that. So we should not be talking

0:29:02 > 0:29:07about world records any time soon with Christian Coleman. But he is

0:29:07 > 0:29:10dominant in this field, and his journey begins right now with Steve

0:29:10 > 0:29:14Cram for the first of the men's 60m heats.

0:29:14 > 0:29:19Kemar Hyman in

0:29:21 > 0:29:23Kemar Hyman in lane two, then Stromsik, then Kim Collins, still

0:29:23 > 0:29:28going well at the age of 41, the only athlete who was here at the

0:29:28 > 0:29:38last Birmingham World Indoor Championships.

0:29:38 > 0:29:43Championships. El Aida, the youngest competitor. Christian Coleman, he

0:29:43 > 0:29:49was seen running at his primary schools, the Our Lady Of Lizzie

0:29:49 > 0:29:53school, I do not think he will show much Mersey to the other athletes

0:29:53 > 0:30:04here! Harris from Nauru on the outside. So the first chance for

0:30:04 > 0:30:08this Birmingham crowd to get to see Christian Coleman, so much hype

0:30:08 > 0:30:15around his achievements so far this winter and indeed last year.

0:30:18 > 0:30:22Interesting pimping of small stature, at one stage he wanted a

0:30:22 > 0:30:26football career but did not get any offers from the major schools just

0:30:26 > 0:30:31because he is too small, that is what he was told. And that is to the

0:30:31 > 0:30:39benefit of athletics.

0:30:39 > 0:30:44benefit of athletics. We think this track is pretty quick in Birmingham.

0:30:44 > 0:30:52The three fastest losers also going into the semifinals tonight.

0:30:55 > 0:30:57into the semifinals tonight. That was Kemar Hyman. He has made some

0:30:57 > 0:31:03false starts in the past. So what we were discussing before we came on

0:31:03 > 0:31:12air about the 60 metres, exactly this. So many disqualifications. A

0:31:12 > 0:31:16lot of inexperienced people. We have 116-year-old.But Kemar Hyman is

0:31:16 > 0:31:25experienced enough. I wondered how long, they have been buried in the

0:31:25 > 0:31:31set position to the gun. So they get a little bit twitchy especially

0:31:31 > 0:31:34early on in the morning but they are experienced and they should know you

0:31:34 > 0:31:37need to hold that position. When they say set you have got to stay

0:31:37 > 0:31:46there. And please do not mention how fast the track can be!The other

0:31:46 > 0:31:52reaction time is irrelevant because once someone jumps out of the

0:31:52 > 0:32:02blocks, once you have gone, you have gone.

0:32:02 > 0:32:10gone. Christian Coleman then. Just trying to stay nice and calm and

0:32:10 > 0:32:15relaxed.

0:32:25 > 0:32:31A good crowd in this morning.

0:32:37 > 0:32:47He stumbled a little bit, Christian Coleman got out well and then just a

0:32:47 > 0:32:54little bit, I bet that his heart was in his mouth. He explodes out of the

0:32:54 > 0:33:00blocks but then just stumbles, recovered himself. I wonder if he

0:33:00 > 0:33:03could have fallen and still got up to qualify! Just a little scared for

0:33:03 > 0:33:12him.It might have been the blocks that slipped or just him and

0:33:12 > 0:33:23stumbled. It is just him. Missed his step. But he is so good. He can

0:33:23 > 0:33:28easily recover even when he stumbled he was still moving away from the

0:33:28 > 0:33:35field, that is how talented he is. Really cruising. He loses his

0:33:35 > 0:33:40footing just there but even though he is still coming out of the

0:33:40 > 0:33:45driving says he is moving away, that is how talented he is. Literally

0:33:45 > 0:33:51just walking down there, looks so relaxed. Very easy. Imagine that for

0:33:51 > 0:33:5716-year-old this item, must be so frustrated. To see that in front of

0:33:57 > 0:34:03you, a man just cruising away.Well you cannot hang a gold medal round

0:34:03 > 0:34:07anyone's neck and there is enough good competition that if he gets

0:34:07 > 0:34:12anything slightly wrong, you are talking hundreds of the second

0:34:12 > 0:34:17between him and maybe

0:34:18 > 0:34:19between him and maybe Ronnie Baker, Su Bingtian, that will keep him on

0:34:19 > 0:34:26his toes.So of course the top three go through. A comfortable race for

0:34:26 > 0:34:32you?Pretty decent. I just want to make the next round. The start was

0:34:32 > 0:34:40pretty decent. Trip to little bit, made it through. It was a quick

0:34:40 > 0:34:45start and then that stumble but before that a false start. Was it

0:34:45 > 0:34:50difficult to compose yourself.I have been in races where we have a

0:34:50 > 0:34:57false start and you just need to stay composed and refocus.I'm

0:34:57 > 0:35:00excited for later. You have come into this having just claimed the

0:35:00 > 0:35:04world record this year. There is a target really on your back.I think

0:35:04 > 0:35:13so. But I do not focus on that. I just do what I've got to do and try

0:35:13 > 0:35:18to win.Thank you for speaking to us.

0:35:18 > 0:35:28He will cheer up! A new national record for Jonah Harris, the

0:35:28 > 0:35:39youngster running seven 03. What about that stumble? Well the

0:35:39 > 0:35:43time to do that is in the preliminary and he does have the

0:35:43 > 0:35:46ability to recover from that. Coming out of the blocks with that quick

0:35:46 > 0:35:52speed and power, you have to overcome gravity, at diagonal, you

0:35:52 > 0:35:56need to over exaggerate the motion of the arms. This is just a

0:35:56 > 0:36:00coordination thing. It is early in the morning and if you're not right

0:36:00 > 0:36:06on it that can happen and often at a crucial moment. But not a big deal

0:36:06 > 0:36:11for him in this rhyme. But there are some guys if that sort of thing

0:36:11 > 0:36:14happened to them in the final, they would be right there. I'm sure that

0:36:14 > 0:36:19will wake him up and he looked fantastic. Just so much better than

0:36:19 > 0:36:25everyone else.Every time I hear him being interviewed he's just so

0:36:25 > 0:36:36compose.Well it is the second heat, let's get out there.Su Bingtian you

0:36:36 > 0:36:40would feel on a collision course with Christian Coleman. Rodriguez as

0:36:40 > 0:36:59well. And running for Germany for a couple of years now Peter Emelieze.

0:36:59 > 0:37:06Roche you may remember in the Commonwealth Games, he saw Jamaica

0:37:06 > 0:37:12through and Usain Bolt and company took that goal. So unbeaten this

0:37:12 > 0:37:19year, Su Bingtian.

0:37:19 > 0:37:25year, Su Bingtian. And Christian Coleman.

0:37:25 > 0:37:34Coleman. Su Bingtian near enough the ideal indoor sprint at 60 metres. He

0:37:34 > 0:37:42gets out so quickly. Still good over 100 but the 60 is his forte. Three

0:37:42 > 0:37:52to go through automatically.A clean start and look at Su Bingtian go.

0:37:52 > 0:37:58Jogging over the line. Another thing about him, he is so consistent, he

0:37:58 > 0:38:03does not make many mistakes. He will hammer out those times in the 60

0:38:03 > 0:38:09metres. Fairly

0:38:10 > 0:38:12metres. Fairly comfortable there, 658. An easy enough qualification

0:38:12 > 0:38:18for Su Bingtian. This is what we normally see from him in the

0:38:18 > 0:38:22qualifications, he does not put his foot down hard until it really

0:38:22 > 0:38:28matters. Qualified well, defeating the field comfortably. But there is

0:38:28 > 0:38:41a lot left in the tank for this man. Those are the three to go through. A

0:38:41 > 0:38:47technique to study, Su Bingtian. He does everything perfectly out of the

0:38:47 > 0:38:53blocks, not wasting any energy. He gets out of the blocks well, goes

0:38:53 > 0:38:56through the phases, then into that upright running and cruising all the

0:38:56 > 0:39:02way through. He will step up another gear as we go through the day.Now

0:39:02 > 0:39:05the semifinals tonight just after seven o'clock and Su Bingtian

0:39:05 > 0:39:13rounded up to 6.5 nine.

0:39:13 > 0:39:19rounded up to 6.5 nine. Those are the three to go through. Ryan Fraser

0:39:19 > 0:39:26and Su Bingtian. Roche as well. So the men's heptathlon standings after

0:39:26 > 0:39:31the hurdles. David Warner just closing in on Kevin Maher. To within

0:39:31 > 0:39:36four points. Kevin Maher with a strong event to come. Especially in

0:39:36 > 0:39:39the pole-vault. He is still favourite for the gold ahead of

0:39:39 > 0:39:48Damian Warner and Kazmirek. Anything wrong with that execution from Su

0:39:48 > 0:39:53Bingtian?Nothing wrong with that at all. His unique ability is that he

0:39:53 > 0:39:59has incredible power and he has the ability to create those angles. He

0:39:59 > 0:40:05is quite stocky and when you have that kind of wit and girth a lot of

0:40:05 > 0:40:09times you get a lot of side to side lateral motion. You do not see that

0:40:09 > 0:40:15with him, he's very efficient and symmetrical. So he just came out of

0:40:15 > 0:40:20that start position at a drive and that is his advantage. We talked

0:40:20 > 0:40:29about that yesterday. But you know, just a fantastic athlete with that

0:40:29 > 0:40:36power and combination of efficiency. He is very efficient, not a lot of

0:40:36 > 0:40:41wasted motion. Comes out right in front and that gives him much more

0:40:41 > 0:40:45distance out of each of those steps coming out of the blocks. Most

0:40:45 > 0:40:50athletes cannot do that. Just perfect execution. He is very

0:40:50 > 0:40:56consistent. Both feet coming pretty much underneath his hips. He does

0:40:56 > 0:41:04not get a lot of bad side to side as you see with Christian Coleman. So

0:41:04 > 0:41:10he is quick and also more powerful. Just to ASCII briefly, he is working

0:41:10 > 0:41:14with your performance unit in China, will there be a wave of Chinese

0:41:14 > 0:41:17sprinters coming because they have not been dominant in the spring.

0:41:17 > 0:41:23They have not been dominant but they are using the same kind of model now

0:41:23 > 0:41:28is the US, they have invested in the sport, they have some fantastic long

0:41:28 > 0:41:33jumpers as we saw last year in London. They brought in a lot of

0:41:33 > 0:41:35coaches from around the world and I think we will continue to see them

0:41:35 > 0:41:42climb up the medals table. And across various different events.

0:41:42 > 0:41:53Steve Cram, the third heat.

0:41:53 > 0:42:03Hassan Taftian of Iran. Competing well on the circuit this year.

0:42:08 > 0:42:09well on the circuit this year. Often Hamilton of Sweden, the Swedish

0:42:09 > 0:42:16indoor champion.

0:42:16 > 0:42:25indoor champion. And some quick times from the athlete from Zambia.

0:42:27 > 0:42:38From the Czech Republic, Jan Volko. So interest here with the Iranian

0:42:38 > 0:42:47record-holder in lane three. We will see how quickly he can go here,

0:42:47 > 0:42:53Hassan Taftian.

0:43:07 > 0:43:22A little twitch and stumble from Hamilton and he has gone.

0:43:22 > 0:43:25Hamilton and he has gone. Jan Volko takes it but it was a messy race.

0:43:25 > 0:43:33Where was Hassan Taftian? Callender did not set off. Mechanism. I do not

0:43:33 > 0:43:36know if that affected Hassan Taftian. It may have affected

0:43:36 > 0:43:42Hamilton because he almost fell over coming out of the blocks.A little

0:43:42 > 0:43:50bit of twitching going on. I just think Hamilton again struggled out

0:43:50 > 0:43:53of the blocks. He pushed hard, really went for it and when you lose

0:43:53 > 0:43:59your footing in the middle of the field you are out of it. It is 60

0:43:59 > 0:44:03metres and everything needs to be virtually perfect. That is where he

0:44:03 > 0:44:09fell down. But the winner, Jan Volko, a great run. Only 21,

0:44:09 > 0:44:14remember. You see that twitch left of the screen, that could have

0:44:14 > 0:44:19caused some problems for some people but the winner comes out from the

0:44:19 > 0:44:27far right of the screen. That makes it illegal bit difficult.-- a

0:44:27 > 0:44:35little bit difficult. Coming up in the next heat, our first look at a

0:44:35 > 0:44:42British athlete, Andrew Robinson. We saw him last year in Belgrade and he

0:44:42 > 0:44:46was disqualified in the finals of the European indoor Championships.

0:44:46 > 0:44:51But very much up for these championships. It has always been a

0:44:51 > 0:44:57speciality for me, the 60 metres. I also like the 100 and 200. But with

0:44:57 > 0:45:03the Commonwealth Games coming up, plans changed and for me it was a

0:45:03 > 0:45:09chance to step up in the 60 metres. I always wanted to compete in a home

0:45:09 > 0:45:15nation World Championship. I did the Commonwealth Games in 2014. I got

0:45:15 > 0:45:22quite a good ovation and that was inspirational. Watching the World

0:45:22 > 0:45:26Championships last year was motivational, I was not there but as

0:45:26 > 0:45:31an athlete you feel you should be there. You know you can perform at

0:45:31 > 0:45:35that level. So world indoors in Birmingham, home nations, I thought

0:45:35 > 0:45:41I would work towards that. I was over the moon to be selected. And

0:45:41 > 0:45:49that motivated me to go even better. What is realistic for you what would

0:45:49 > 0:45:55you be satisfied with? The final and then push on from there. In the

0:45:55 > 0:46:00championship anything can happen. If IPV and do not make the final it is

0:46:00 > 0:46:03what it is. If I make the final and perform, see what happens from

0:46:03 > 0:46:08there. It can change quickly. As long as I come back thinking I've

0:46:08 > 0:46:15done the best I can, that is all that matters.

0:46:15 > 0:46:19We have talked a lot about Attlee to do not always translate to indoors,

0:46:19 > 0:46:23but because of his build, he is suited to indoors, and people may

0:46:23 > 0:46:27not know that. He juggles his athletics with teaching autistic

0:46:27 > 0:46:33children, so not a full-time athlete, is the final a big ask?

0:46:33 > 0:46:38Look, you have got to go for it, I like his attitude, I am sure in that

0:46:38 > 0:46:42interview, you know, it is about, ideally I get to the final, but

0:46:42 > 0:46:46right now he is focused on finishing as high as he possibly can in this

0:46:46 > 0:46:53round to advance to the next.Yes, navigate this eat first, Andrew

0:46:53 > 0:46:57Cotter? Yes, he is of the previous first.

0:46:57 > 0:47:02Yes, as an Tian

0:47:02 > 0:47:11Yes, as an Tian -- Hassan Taftian is through, those are your qualifiers.

0:47:11 > 0:47:22So there is genuine is

0:47:22 > 0:47:26So there is genuine is -- Xie, part of a very impressive squad.

0:47:26 > 0:47:32Francesco Molinari, familiar name! From San Marino. Former Jamaican,

0:47:32 > 0:47:38Winston Barnes, as one, representing Turkey for 18 months or so now.

0:47:38 > 0:47:42Lester Ryan from Montserrat fills lane five, and there will be a

0:47:42 > 0:47:49decent bit of noise for Andrew Robertson. Such disappointment, as

0:47:49 > 0:47:53we talked about, in Belgrade at the European indoors, a great starter,

0:47:53 > 0:48:04can you possibly make the final?

0:48:05 > 0:48:12Michael Pohl, second at the German championships, we just missed out

0:48:12 > 0:48:19Christophe Boulos of Lebanon in lane one. I think he is running in

0:48:19 > 0:48:30tracksuit trousers! No, leggings, fine, all good! Robertson goes in

0:48:30 > 0:48:38six. Paul Ma'unikeni in seven, Michael Pohl of Germany in lane

0:48:38 > 0:48:42eight, three go through automatically.

0:48:50 > 0:48:57Oh, Andrew Robertson, well, just looking at Francesco Molinari as

0:48:57 > 0:49:03well. But those two

0:49:06 > 0:49:09well. But those two left out. Remember, Andrew, they can

0:49:09 > 0:49:14disqualify more than one person. We will look closely.Looking at the

0:49:14 > 0:49:26reaction times, Andrew Robertson is given 0.2

0:49:26 > 0:49:35given 0.2, there are the reaction times.He was quite considerably

0:49:35 > 0:49:44ahead, unfortunately. This might be the end for Andrew Robertson.

0:49:44 > 0:49:47the end for Andrew Robertson. Well, it was a false art in the final of

0:49:47 > 0:49:52the European indoors, and it might be at the very first stage the end

0:49:52 > 0:49:58of his World Indoors. They all just gathering by the machine, just to

0:49:58 > 0:50:03the right of the athletes, they are looking very closely at the

0:50:03 > 0:50:07printout. They will make a decision soon enough, but nobody is heading

0:50:07 > 0:50:18over yet. We will find out shortly. Well, a yellow card.Thank goodness

0:50:18 > 0:50:25for that! A lot of people will be breathing.Well... We need to have

0:50:25 > 0:50:29another look at that replay, because on the reaction times, you would say

0:50:29 > 0:50:37Andrew Robertson would have been disqualified. Just a warning.I was

0:50:37 > 0:50:41wondering whether he was not steady, if you look right in the middle.

0:50:41 > 0:50:49Barnes in lane four.Look how he moves, his shoulders, he moves off

0:50:49 > 0:50:54and then sits back. Of course, that seems to have said off all the other

0:50:54 > 0:51:00runners, so I think the starters have used their discretion well this

0:51:00 > 0:51:04time.Andrew Robertson gets to go again, but is that a huge slice of

0:51:04 > 0:51:13fortune? Barnes certainly twitched, but you have seen athletes

0:51:13 > 0:51:16disqualified, irrespective of whether somebody gives a twitch, but

0:51:16 > 0:51:22Robertson gets to go again.

0:51:31 > 0:51:38Clearly outweigh this time, Robertson into it very swiftly, and

0:51:38 > 0:51:41he has to none, Michael Pohl challenging for the third automatic

0:51:41 > 0:51:45qualifying place, and he was under real pressure. Barnes, an impressive

0:51:45 > 0:51:52run for the Turkish athlete. A nervous wait now for Andrew

0:51:52 > 0:51:57Robertson,

0:51:57 > 0:52:00Robertson, three going through, I am not sure he will go through as a

0:52:00 > 0:52:07fastest loser, Michael Pohl has got third, so Robertson misses out. That

0:52:07 > 0:52:15third best time, Andrew, is 6.73, so Robertson ran 6.7 four, behind, so

0:52:15 > 0:52:23we will keep a close eye on fastest losers.Goes into the fastest losers

0:52:23 > 0:52:29the moment, Pohl just getting it on the dip from Robertson. He is one of

0:52:29 > 0:52:33the three fastest losers, but three heats still to come. Not his finest

0:52:33 > 0:52:39start, left a little bit by Barnes, but in a decent position here.

0:52:39 > 0:52:46Barnes got out very well for Turkey, rewarded with a very swift time of

0:52:46 > 0:52:506.58, but Andrew, you can imagine he might be frustrated, perhaps nerves

0:52:50 > 0:52:55got the better of him, knows that he has an opportunity to get through by

0:52:55 > 0:53:00right, not as fastest loser, and he is more than capable of running

0:53:00 > 0:53:04around 6.65, which would have seen him through very comfortably indeed.

0:53:04 > 0:53:08Hopefully, he will be able to have a couple of words with us. He just

0:53:08 > 0:53:17gets pipped at the end. So he has to wait.

0:53:17 > 0:53:22Andrew, a dramatic start to your championship.Yeah, a little bit,

0:53:22 > 0:53:27disappointed, to be fair. I had a really shaky indoor season, I don't

0:53:27 > 0:53:30know what has been going on this year, really, really disappointed,

0:53:30 > 0:53:35to be honest. As you stood waiting for what was a yellow card for your

0:53:35 > 0:53:40fellow athlete, were the euro is coming back to you, what were you

0:53:40 > 0:53:46thinking?Not really, I tried my best to shut it out, I could hear

0:53:46 > 0:53:50movement in the blocks, we were held for a long time, so I knew something

0:53:50 > 0:53:55wasn't right, to be fair. It didn't faze me, to be fair, I am very

0:53:55 > 0:53:58experienced in this, just concentrate on myself. You are

0:53:58 > 0:54:05through as a fastest loser at the moment. Obviously, a long wait now.

0:54:05 > 0:54:09You had a good run there, almost threw in third, did you know the

0:54:09 > 0:54:14German was sneaking up on the right? I could see him coming up, but I

0:54:14 > 0:54:20lost focus at the end, no excuse, I used to run 6.5s last year, I don't

0:54:20 > 0:54:24and astound why I have gone backwards. It is something I have to

0:54:24 > 0:54:31dress with my coach and my team. The long wait begins, I hope it comes

0:54:31 > 0:54:39cure way.Vellios, as he admitted, just not good enough. -- fairly

0:54:39 > 0:54:50honest. As we speak, he is in the fastest loser positions.

0:54:50 > 0:54:58So CJ Ujah will be hoping for a less dramatic he'd here. I have a feeling

0:54:58 > 0:55:01that Andy Robertson, looking at the three remaining heats, including

0:55:01 > 0:55:06this one, and I think there is not too many capable of running that

0:55:06 > 0:55:15quick, they will not finish in the top three. Anyway, we shall see.

0:55:15 > 0:55:24Safo-Antwi of Ghana, formerly of Great Britain

0:55:28 > 0:55:33Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Maibuca, Riffayn, Rodriguez. And

0:55:33 > 0:55:40then CJ Ujah, who will get a huge cheer from the crowd, I am sure.

0:55:40 > 0:55:46CHEERING AND APPLAUSE Well, he knows that if you can find

0:55:46 > 0:55:51his best form here, gets to the final first of all, you never know,

0:55:51 > 0:55:55anything can happen, there are quicker men, we have seen a couple

0:55:55 > 0:56:00of them already, but he is a good competitor at his best, CJ, fairly

0:56:00 > 0:56:06comfortable he'd here, we saw Joseph from St Lucia, another 19-year-old.

0:56:06 > 0:56:17Arthur Cisse from Ivory Coast. Cisse has run 6.57 in Paris, a good win

0:56:17 > 0:56:22from him at one of the meets this year. A quick glance of the fastest

0:56:22 > 0:56:32losers, Robertson will be keeping an eye on these last three heats. So

0:56:32 > 0:56:35Safo-Antwi in lane one, Cisse in lane eight, CJ Ujah in the middle,

0:56:35 > 0:56:47in lane five. Rodriguez next to him.

0:56:55 > 0:57:00Safo-Antwi got a great start over in lane one, CJ did pretty well, it

0:57:00 > 0:57:09will be CJ, 6.59, nice run, quickest starter was Safo-Antwi, Cisse is the

0:57:09 > 0:57:14other qualifier along with CJ, they know each other pretty well, so we

0:57:14 > 0:57:18have got one safely through, Andy Robertson will be looking at the

0:57:18 > 0:57:23result, but given that the three of them were reasonably well clear,

0:57:23 > 0:57:28Rodriguez not far behind, we will wait for the result with Colin.Job

0:57:28 > 0:57:33well done, perfect words, CJ did nothing wrong whatsoever, steady in

0:57:33 > 0:57:37the blocks, a bit of movement going on around him, but he kept his

0:57:37 > 0:57:40focus, which was the most important thing. Stamped out of the blocks

0:57:40 > 0:57:46well, worked hard for the first 30-40 metres, allowing him to be

0:57:46 > 0:57:50able to switch off, he took control of the race really well, which is

0:57:50 > 0:57:55what he wants to see. Now he has established himself, Steven, as one

0:57:55 > 0:57:59of the best sprinters in the world, people are really showing him

0:57:59 > 0:58:04respect. What he did in the Diamond League last year really elevated

0:58:04 > 0:58:10him, so, CJ, you are here for sure. That is a good point, the fact that

0:58:10 > 0:58:13he is getting a lot more competition against the top guys, just missed

0:58:13 > 0:58:17out in the Olympics and again last year, but that experience on the

0:58:17 > 0:58:22circuit is standing him in great stead. Anyway, through nicely, let's

0:58:22 > 0:58:27see what he thinks about that.CJ, through in first, a statement of

0:58:27 > 0:58:30intent for what is going to come? Not really! You have got to go

0:58:30 > 0:58:36through the rounds, I just wanted to come out and run a bit faster than

0:58:36 > 0:58:39in trials, I know I have got to get the legs moving quickly, now I am

0:58:39 > 0:58:44going to recover and get ready for the next round.Busy couple of

0:58:44 > 0:58:48weeks, British champ income Glasgow last weekend, how fresh are you

0:58:48 > 0:58:52feeling?All part of the training, it has come to the moment, now is

0:58:52 > 0:58:57the time to be ready. What is the process now? Are you already

0:58:57 > 0:59:01focusing on the next round, or will you come down for a minute? The

0:59:01 > 0:59:06processes to go back and relax and we go from there, comeback this

0:59:06 > 0:59:12evening, tackle the next round. Thanks for talking to us.No

0:59:12 > 0:59:17worries.Good that he won his heat, looked cool, calm and comfortable,

0:59:17 > 0:59:21and we will be seeing him just after seven o'clock in the semifinal. One

0:59:21 > 0:59:26thing to note, Rodriguez is now the quickest of the fastest losers, so

0:59:26 > 0:59:31Andy Robertson is now second on that list, only three fastest losers will

0:59:31 > 0:59:38join the first three in each heat. Yes, it is going to be very close

0:59:38 > 0:59:41for Andrew Robertson, as we look at the line-up for the next heat, the

0:59:41 > 0:59:53sixth of seven, names to look out for here, Ben Youssef Meite of the

0:59:53 > 1:00:03Ivory Coast goes in lane seven. Three to go through automatically,

1:00:03 > 1:00:06and the fastest losers, three overall, Robertson is still second

1:00:06 > 1:00:12of the fastest losers at the moment. Four here could certainly better his

1:00:12 > 1:00:16time.

1:00:16 > 1:00:31In lane one we have Hameed of Pakistan. Marai.

1:00:34 > 1:00:46Evra Tim Clark going well this season. -- Everton clerk.

1:00:50 > 1:00:52season. -- Everton clerk. From the Seychelles, the youngest man in the

1:00:52 > 1:01:04line-up, Sicobo. And the Polish champion there.

1:01:04 > 1:01:09champion there. Meite made the final in the Rio Olympics in the 100

1:01:09 > 1:01:18mitres. -- 100 metres.

1:01:47 > 1:01:55Three go through automatically. The penultimate round in the men's 60

1:01:55 > 1:02:06metres heats. Clearly the way, good start from Tosin Ogunode. Meite

1:02:06 > 1:02:16coming through, it was close. That is going to be tight for Robertson.

1:02:16 > 1:02:19Not quite for a breast but very close. Meite coming through

1:02:19 > 1:02:26eventually. Difficult in the 60 when you hit that ramp and clatter into

1:02:26 > 1:02:30the padding, sometimes that is where the injuries can occur. Hopefully

1:02:30 > 1:02:37not too serious. Just a bit of a knock. But he got into his running

1:02:37 > 1:02:43eventually, Meite. They think at the end his foot got wedged down by the

1:02:43 > 1:02:51photographers are. But we expected Clarke to do much better, he

1:02:51 > 1:02:56stumbled and missed his stride. Not going to the accelerating phase as

1:02:56 > 1:03:07well as he might do so it was comfortable for Meite.

1:03:07 > 1:03:09comfortable for Meite. Tosin Ogunode sinking a little bit, not able to

1:03:09 > 1:03:16get into that vital phase.

1:03:16 > 1:03:18get into that vital phase. So expected to be one of the people to

1:03:18 > 1:03:22look out for in the semifinals but he has made it through. He will have

1:03:22 > 1:03:28to improve things to challenge Christian Coleman of course but

1:03:28 > 1:03:37safely through and that time six .724 Tosin Ogunode. So Robertson in

1:03:37 > 1:03:43the last of the fastest losers places with one heat to go. Andrew

1:03:43 > 1:03:46Robertson waiting nervously to find out if he has made it through later

1:03:46 > 1:03:54today. And in this event Great Britain has a very impressive list

1:03:54 > 1:03:59of winners.

1:04:02 > 1:04:08of winners.Gardner away! A very good victory. Dwain Chambers,

1:04:08 > 1:04:12they're down in the blocks, he has got the advantage, all the way to

1:04:12 > 1:04:18the line! It is gold for Dwain Chambers of Great Britain!

1:04:18 > 1:04:28Chambers alongside. Three gold medals in the 60 metres

1:04:28 > 1:04:31for Great Britain over the years. Not sure at this year if we will be

1:04:31 > 1:04:36able to say that by this evening because we have some very fast men

1:04:36 > 1:04:40and very good athletes out there but CJ Ujah has put himself in with a

1:04:40 > 1:04:45chance. What would now be like for Andrew Robertson, almost willing the

1:04:45 > 1:04:50next race is not to go well for some people. It is agonising but it is

1:04:50 > 1:04:53out of his hands, he cannot do anything, it cannot respond so it is

1:04:53 > 1:04:59just the waiting game but mentally be prepared for both scenarios. If

1:04:59 > 1:05:03he is back on then give it his all because he did not execute that race

1:05:03 > 1:05:10as well as he should have.It was quite a messy start. You never had

1:05:10 > 1:05:18to wait! I was always waiting! But going back to CJ Ujah, those three

1:05:18 > 1:05:25gold medals from yesteryear, the Brits were always the underdogs and

1:05:25 > 1:05:29managed to keep composed and come through and surprise people.CJ Ujah

1:05:29 > 1:05:33has a chance. You heard it here! Let's head outside for the final

1:05:33 > 1:05:44heat.A couple of points today, quickly. Andrey Robertson, his case

1:05:44 > 1:05:48helped by the two nonstarters in the race. He will definitely I think be

1:05:48 > 1:05:58OK. He was looking a bit perilous and then Ronnie Baker. Let's just

1:05:58 > 1:06:12have a look at the starting this. Mohammed from Saudi Arabia.

1:06:12 > 1:06:17Mohammed from Saudi Arabia. Cray of the Philippines.

1:06:17 > 1:06:23the Philippines. World number one last year, Ronnie Baker. In any

1:06:23 > 1:06:27other year he would be the gold medal favourite but he has his

1:06:27 > 1:06:32team-mate Christian Coleman to think about. There is the confirmation of

1:06:32 > 1:06:43Robertson, his place. Puddy much OK. -- pretty much. Mohammed has run

1:06:43 > 1:06:496.60 this year.

1:06:49 > 1:06:536.60 this year. But this should be Ronnie Baker all the way. Mohammed

1:06:53 > 1:07:02gets a decent start alongside him. Baker just cantering through. I

1:07:02 > 1:07:08think third spot was De Grace of Mauritius. Mohammed ran very well

1:07:08 > 1:07:13against Baker. Got out well. Baker may be thought he would just have to

1:07:13 > 1:07:18use his way through and after about 30, 40 metres, had to start running.

1:07:18 > 1:07:25Mohammed running well. Exactly my same thoughts. He must've looked at

1:07:25 > 1:07:31it and thought, a little bit of a cruise. Then realised Hang on, I've

1:07:31 > 1:07:38got company, I need to step up a bit more. So he pushes on and then

1:07:38 > 1:07:43switches down again. So really showed his class. 6.50 seven. Still

1:07:43 > 1:07:47I would think a very comfortable qualifying for this man. I think we

1:07:47 > 1:07:51will see so much more in the semifinals. Everyone will be

1:07:51 > 1:07:56stepping up another gear for the even Mohammed glancing at the clock,

1:07:56 > 1:08:01seeing how well he is doing. A good performance by him. Let's take a

1:08:01 > 1:08:08look, he comes very upright quickly through the blocks. Not the same

1:08:08 > 1:08:13drive bays as Su Bingtian. Now thinking, I have got company, I need

1:08:13 > 1:08:17to step up a bit. Then he loses sight of his peripheral and switches

1:08:17 > 1:08:26down. 6.50 seven.Comfortable. I think CJ can be happy with his

1:08:26 > 1:08:31position in the first round in terms of who look good. Baker looked good

1:08:31 > 1:08:36of course, Christian Coleman, Su Bingtian. Let's take a look at all

1:08:36 > 1:08:42the qualifiers and confirm Andy Robertson has made it through. Baker

1:08:42 > 1:08:50ending up with the quickest time. No great surprises. Then all went down

1:08:50 > 1:08:56to fastest losers. All through to the semifinals at ten past seven

1:08:56 > 1:09:04tonight. Safely done, almost. Andrew

1:09:04 > 1:09:07Robertson is through. Obviously some nervous moments for him but he is in

1:09:07 > 1:09:11the mix for the semifinals later today and then who knows what could

1:09:11 > 1:09:14happen. As we've seen even the world record holder can have a little

1:09:14 > 1:09:21stumble in the early stages. Let's take a look at Robertson, at his

1:09:21 > 1:09:26race again. Of course it came after that falls start. It did come after

1:09:26 > 1:09:32the false start. Caused by the athlete in the name number four. He

1:09:32 > 1:09:35was actually allowed back into the race, able to pull it back and get

1:09:35 > 1:09:41back in. So Andrew gets out pretty well but then once he transitions

1:09:41 > 1:09:48into ultimate speed and just maximum velocity, that is where it starts to

1:09:48 > 1:09:52fall apart. He said he was not happy with the way he executed the race

1:09:52 > 1:09:58and that is because he lost form. Look at him, nice and compact,

1:09:58 > 1:10:02everything pretty symmetrical and then the arms coming way out of the

1:10:02 > 1:10:06side of his body. You can do that and get away with it, it will give

1:10:06 > 1:10:11you some power in the drive phase. But into your full speed running you

1:10:11 > 1:10:15need to pull in your arms and be much more efficient and symmetrical.

1:10:15 > 1:10:23As we talked about earlier with soothing Can.And the contrast in

1:10:23 > 1:10:29styles, just at the end he seemed to be rotating a little bit.Really got

1:10:29 > 1:10:35tight in the legs. Exactly right. If your arms start to come out of the

1:10:35 > 1:10:39side, you're not getting that compact power that is producing

1:10:39 > 1:10:45force into the ground. You're reaching a little bit. The wider

1:10:45 > 1:10:48your arms, beside your body the longer the strike. And that will

1:10:48 > 1:10:52increase the next right as well. Things that he could tweak this

1:10:52 > 1:10:58evening. He quit because he is aware of that, he talked about it in the

1:10:58 > 1:11:02interview and that is what bodes well for him. It is still going to

1:11:02 > 1:11:10be tough because it comes down to him running his 6.5 in the end. He

1:11:10 > 1:11:15needs to run that. In order to have a chance to get into the final.

1:11:15 > 1:11:18Amazing when you analyse the 100 metres I always find it incredible

1:11:18 > 1:11:22how many things to break down but even with the 60 metres with things

1:11:22 > 1:11:26falling apart at the end. So much has the capacity to go wrong in

1:11:26 > 1:11:33those short moment. CJ, not a lot going wrong for him, a very good

1:11:33 > 1:11:38start and a good run, fluid. He was fluid and efficient coming out of

1:11:38 > 1:11:42the blocks. Unlike some of the other athletes quick out of the blocks, he

1:11:42 > 1:11:47seems to get faster during the race. That could be a problem for him, if

1:11:47 > 1:11:51they are all ahead of him, he is right there with the field coming

1:11:51 > 1:11:55out of the blocks. Now starts to pull away at 30 metres, from the

1:11:55 > 1:12:01rest of the field. So that means if you compare and contrast that to the

1:12:01 > 1:12:10other athletes, Ronnie Baker, Su Bingtian, Christian Coleman, he will

1:12:10 > 1:12:14have to go and get them because they are already out there. I do not see

1:12:14 > 1:12:19how he can get a faster start because already he is very efficient

1:12:19 > 1:12:23out of the blocks and doing pretty much anything that he can in the

1:12:23 > 1:12:28start. This is the first round, maybe he is a bit rusty and can get

1:12:28 > 1:12:31quicker. But there's nothing wrong, I cannot tell you anything that is

1:12:31 > 1:12:36wrong with this, it looks very good, very powerful. Nice and relaxed.

1:12:36 > 1:12:42Doing everything he needs to do.

1:12:48 > 1:12:52But it just has to be quicker. What we cannot tell is how much effort he

1:12:52 > 1:12:55is putting in. He has done the work of the first ten metres but does he

1:12:55 > 1:12:58know he has got another gear? Then if he does we will see that in the

1:12:58 > 1:13:01semis. I do not think he would come out in the first round of the World

1:13:01 > 1:13:04Championships and hold back but the speed could come from the fact that

1:13:04 > 1:13:06you have got another round in today and you get quicker throughout the

1:13:06 > 1:13:09day. We saw that yesterday with the women. That is what could work in

1:13:09 > 1:13:13his favour. Betty will do the same thing but get more speed because the

1:13:13 > 1:13:18body is now used to it and ready to fire on all cylinders. And as we saw

1:13:18 > 1:13:21last night with the women you can get quicker as the day goes on.

1:13:21 > 1:13:27Let's head over to the commentary box. Colin Jackson had his eyes all

1:13:27 > 1:13:33over those seven heats.Overall thoughts? I stink -- I still think

1:13:33 > 1:13:36Christian Coleman is looking strong. That mistake he made was crucial but

1:13:36 > 1:13:40he was still comfortable to use away from the field. So we know he has

1:13:40 > 1:13:47that magical 6.30 in his legs but competition is not going to be easy.

1:13:47 > 1:13:52You only need to make a tiny mistake in the 60 metres and that will put

1:13:52 > 1:13:57you under pressure and set you back early in them race. It is a quality

1:13:57 > 1:14:01field and when the semifinals start this evening we will see who can

1:14:01 > 1:14:06step up to the mark.Let's take another look at Christian Coleman,

1:14:06 > 1:14:09the world record holder and that little stumble at the beginning of

1:14:09 > 1:14:15the race.It is just a matter of you need to exaggerate the arms coming

1:14:15 > 1:14:21out at that angle. He just missed placed the foot, it is coordination.

1:14:21 > 1:14:25And it is early in the morning, first round, he is able to overcome

1:14:25 > 1:14:31it, not a big deal for him. When you heard him in the interview he is

1:14:31 > 1:14:36always that way, very focused. Just watched the left foot, started

1:14:36 > 1:14:42actually with the right leg, just went a bit outside of his body, just

1:14:42 > 1:14:46a misplacement that caused counter reaction on the left of his body.

1:14:46 > 1:14:50But he is able to overcome that. It shows the class of the athlete. How

1:14:50 > 1:14:57good he really is. As you said he's always focused, very sound mind, he

1:14:57 > 1:15:03does not let things rattle him at all. Obviously coming into this with

1:15:03 > 1:15:06extreme confidence being the world record-holder at 60 metres and able

1:15:06 > 1:15:11to overcome and still win that race easily. I do not think that is any

1:15:11 > 1:15:17big deal that we should make too much.

1:15:19 > 1:15:24Thank you very much, moving to a slightly longer raise now, the 1500m

1:15:24 > 1:15:28semifinals, the men's competition, and the noise you are hearing just

1:15:28 > 1:15:32there was to introduce the women's triple jump, who are now warming up,

1:15:32 > 1:15:37we will catch up to them shortly. But let's focus on Chris O'Hare for

1:15:37 > 1:15:41a moment, great season last year heading into those home World

1:15:41 > 1:15:45Championships in London, a lot of expected of him, you may be final

1:15:45 > 1:15:48but was quite disappointed to be finishing down the field in 11th

1:15:48 > 1:15:54place. JJ Chalmers caught up with him ahead of today. At the start of

1:15:54 > 1:15:57the season, we said there was no point doing the indoors unless we

1:15:57 > 1:16:03were in with a shout of a medal, and then, again, before the trials, we

1:16:03 > 1:16:07have to make a decision on whether we don't run the trials and

1:16:07 > 1:16:10potentially risk not being picked for the team. It has all been

1:16:10 > 1:16:18structured around, am I or am I not going to be able to medal? And we

1:16:18 > 1:16:22believe I can.How much have you wanted this opportunity,

1:16:22 > 1:16:27particularly the home crowd? How long has this World Championship

1:16:27 > 1:16:33idea been in your mind?Anybody who knows me, from a young age, I am

1:16:33 > 1:16:44easy to anger, and it has been kind of a challenge for me to manage that

1:16:44 > 1:16:50anger in day to day life. But then always being able to use it as fuel

1:16:50 > 1:16:59when it came to racing. I never had any issue with, basically, making up

1:16:59 > 1:17:03stories in my head about people I'm competing against, about how they

1:17:03 > 1:17:10are holding me back, how they are making it harder for me to survive,

1:17:10 > 1:17:15harder for me to provide for my family, and that gets me angry! And

1:17:15 > 1:17:22that is good for me. But I have had to manage it as well, so in London,

1:17:22 > 1:17:28it was just an internal dialogue with myself about these guys on the

1:17:28 > 1:17:35track, holding me back from getting my medal, in my country, and I was

1:17:35 > 1:17:40just getting way too fired up. Paula Radcliffe is in the commentary

1:17:40 > 1:17:46box for us, very intense in that interview there, is that normal? Is

1:17:46 > 1:17:50that is normal demeanour, as far as you are aware? No, that is not

1:17:50 > 1:17:57really the Chris that I know from the training track, but certainly he

1:17:57 > 1:18:01was very frustrated, disappointed is putting it very mildly at the London

1:18:01 > 1:18:06last year, and I know that it took him a while to pick up the pieces,

1:18:06 > 1:18:09get back racing, and he came into this season really fired up, racing

1:18:09 > 1:18:15very well in the beginning, then he has had a bit of a foot niggly, I am

1:18:15 > 1:18:19hoping that has settled down and he is ready to race at his best. And

1:18:19 > 1:18:24Jake Wightman coming up as well, he made rate strides last year, had a

1:18:24 > 1:18:29very good season, how as his winter gone?It has gone well, he is the

1:18:29 > 1:18:35first to say he is learning about racing indoors, he said that he

1:18:35 > 1:18:38cannot make the right decisions fast enough indoors and he is still

1:18:38 > 1:18:45learning with that. Having said that, big questions over whether

1:18:45 > 1:18:50Sulieman will even line-up in his heat.It is O'Hare first, he is

1:18:50 > 1:18:53clearly looking for a medal from these championships, it seems like

1:18:53 > 1:18:57it would write some wrong is for him, he is more than capable if his

1:18:57 > 1:19:02tactics go well.Usually makes very good tactical decisions, he races

1:19:02 > 1:19:07very well indoors. Part of that maybe comes from the amount of time

1:19:07 > 1:19:11he spent racing on the circuits in America, but he tends to make

1:19:11 > 1:19:16decisions quickly and put himself in the right place. That is coming up

1:19:16 > 1:19:20shortly on the track, but let's see how the triple jump has got itself

1:19:20 > 1:19:25under way, or has it, Steve Backley? Yeah, just getting under way now,

1:19:25 > 1:19:34your athletes, all 17 of them in total. Yulimar Rojas is the

1:19:34 > 1:19:38defending champion, decided to defend here, despite having not

1:19:38 > 1:19:43competed yet this year. No British interests, Asha Hansen, 15 years

1:19:43 > 1:19:49since she won here at the World Indoors in Birmingham. No Brits

1:19:49 > 1:19:55involved. And here is the Venezuelan first up in this triple jump final,

1:19:55 > 1:20:05she is tall, six foot three. Won with 14.51, shortest ever distance,

1:20:05 > 1:20:09she will want to do something about that distance. Over 14 metres in

1:20:09 > 1:20:20this first round. And Rojas, gold last summer, silver-medallist from

1:20:20 > 1:20:26Rio. The first Venezuelan to ever make a final, which is a big deal

1:20:26 > 1:20:32back home in Venezuela. Comes here trying to defend our title, really

1:20:32 > 1:20:38good on the board.

1:20:38 > 1:20:43good on the board. 14.24, her first jump this year is a season's best.

1:20:43 > 1:20:47Right, someone who can challenge, second on the world list,

1:20:47 > 1:20:53Papachristou of Greece, second jumper. Strikes the ground much more

1:20:53 > 1:20:58aggressive through the phases from Papachristou.Really extending

1:20:58 > 1:21:02through the step, speed on the floor, really pulling the active

1:21:02 > 1:21:08board. The stages here, 17 athletes in this competition, they are going

1:21:08 > 1:21:12to have to stand around, it is quite crowded down there, they will

1:21:12 > 1:21:17probably have to wait 12 or 15 minutes between jumps. So again,

1:21:17 > 1:21:21early stages, trying to put a market in early, because you will spend a

1:21:21 > 1:21:27lot of time waiting, I think. She goes into second place. Tori

1:21:27 > 1:21:37Franklin of the USA is next up. Twice US indoor champion, a best

1:21:37 > 1:21:45this year of 14.15, so she will need all of that.A little bit rocky on

1:21:45 > 1:21:50the runway, you could see her shoulders oscillating, then hits the

1:21:50 > 1:21:53floor really hard, doesn't skip across the floor, keep the speed

1:21:53 > 1:21:59going, slams the brakes on and then in. If she were more active over the

1:21:59 > 1:22:06top of her foot, she could go much further. So Tori Franklin, 14.03,

1:22:06 > 1:22:12goes into third place.

1:22:15 > 1:22:23goes into third place. Prokopenko, authorised neutral

1:22:23 > 1:22:34authorised neutral athlete, season's 14.44, but down below 30 metres.

1:22:34 > 1:22:38Collapsed on the step phase, didn't get out into the jump as she would

1:22:38 > 1:22:49have liked. A little collapse, doesn't come off, into the sandpit.

1:22:49 > 1:22:53This is a international debut, so maybe a little bit of nerves is

1:22:53 > 1:22:59understandable, Prokopenko in fourth place.

1:23:01 > 1:23:06place. So Chris O'Hare is ready to go in this 1500m heat, a bit of a

1:23:06 > 1:23:09stinker, to be honest, he would have looked at the draw and thought,

1:23:09 > 1:23:16really?! He has got Iguider, the former world champion in 2012,

1:23:16 > 1:23:20Olympic medallist from 2012, very good indoor runner, Wote, former

1:23:20 > 1:23:24medallist at the World Indoors of Ethiopia, Ben Blankenship, who he

1:23:24 > 1:23:30knows well, Blankenship finished behind Chris O'Hare recently in the

1:23:30 > 1:23:35States. He has also got Lewandowski, very dangerous 800m specialist, who

1:23:35 > 1:23:41is really dangerous at 1500 indoors, from Poland. Only two guaranteed to

1:23:41 > 1:23:46go through, so look

1:23:47 > 1:23:49go through, so look at that, you know, Chris is going to really have

1:23:49 > 1:23:54to be at his best. And also, be smart, which he often is in terms of

1:23:54 > 1:24:01his tactics here, cos with two more heats to come, you wouldn't want to

1:24:01 > 1:24:04be in a fastest loser spot, it gives the advantage to the others, they

1:24:04 > 1:24:08can see what happens in this one. And there are not any natural

1:24:08 > 1:24:15frontrunners here either, you know, Iguider likes to kick, as does

1:24:15 > 1:24:19Lewandowski and Chris himself, so I am not sure we will see anyone take

1:24:19 > 1:24:23it out, possibly Blankenship might decide to get things moving. Tough

1:24:23 > 1:24:27one, Paula.Very much a tough one, very and balanced for these

1:24:27 > 1:24:32athletes, and for the women's 800 later on, the seeding has not been

1:24:32 > 1:24:36great throughout the championships, and he will have to race this as a

1:24:36 > 1:24:40final.I think Mohamed was saying that, look at this heat, it is

1:24:40 > 1:24:51tough! Lewandowski, then forget the times, the personal-best, the same

1:24:51 > 1:24:56as Lewandowski, because indoor 1500m running is an art, the 800m pace

1:24:56 > 1:25:00helps a lot, possibly where Chris is a little bit lacking with some of

1:25:00 > 1:25:05the other guys. But he can finish very quickly, Blankenship will maybe

1:25:05 > 1:25:09suffer with the pace a little bit here, but Chris has got enough on

1:25:09 > 1:25:14the last 400m to contend with these guys, and the thinking, I guess, is

1:25:14 > 1:25:21that Iguider is, I would say, past his best, but he is still, you can

1:25:21 > 1:25:26see, this season's best, still very capable. And a wily competitor, Dey

1:25:26 > 1:25:39from Saddam. -- Sudan. So just the top two, Jake Wightman is in heat

1:25:39 > 1:25:49three.On your marks. So let's see how this pans out, Iguider getting

1:25:49 > 1:25:52himself out of trouble, Wote following him, then Blankenship,

1:25:52 > 1:25:57Chris O'Hare moving up nicely into two, getting a clip from behind

1:25:57 > 1:26:01already, Dey pushing through on the inside. Settle down, lads, settle

1:26:01 > 1:26:06down! Some pushing and shoving at the back, Lewandowski involved, he

1:26:06 > 1:26:10gets himself on the inside now. I would like to see Chris doing

1:26:10 > 1:26:14exactly what he's doing, Paula, just keeping that inside lane, just

1:26:14 > 1:26:21keeping an eye on what is but this is a job.It is, and there is no

1:26:21 > 1:26:29natural frontrunner, as you said. A lot of the trouble on the first lap

1:26:29 > 1:26:33was Dey, I do not know if he has raced indoors before, he is much

1:26:33 > 1:26:37taller than the other guys, and he is having trouble finding space to

1:26:37 > 1:26:43run. If the pace were quicker, that would be better, but they are all

1:26:43 > 1:26:46look around, waiting for some blue's nerve to snap, to take up a quicker

1:26:46 > 1:26:53pace.Yeah, sometimes when it goes to slow, you don't feel comfortable,

1:26:53 > 1:26:58so although Wote has picked it up, they ran a 33 for the second 200, so

1:26:58 > 1:27:03he has got things moving a bit more without putting his foot down. It

1:27:03 > 1:27:07shows his lack of confidence in his kicking, probably looking at Trump

1:27:07 > 1:27:17and Iguider and Lewandowski and thought, I need to get this moving.

1:27:18 > 1:27:23-- O'Hare. Just about 30 seconds there, a comfortable pace for these

1:27:23 > 1:27:28guys.He is picked it up in contrast, but still not fast at all,

1:27:28 > 1:27:32and you can see that everybody is still there, given the quality of

1:27:32 > 1:27:36others in this race, you would have expected some of them to drop off

1:27:36 > 1:27:40already. That is not happening, but a gap is starting to open now, and

1:27:40 > 1:27:45Chris is in a really good position to react.I think this will help

1:27:45 > 1:27:53them, it's just spreads everybody out, 28, just what Wote is doing,

1:27:53 > 1:27:58winding it up. Slow first 800m, the first lap was slow, the top guys are

1:27:58 > 1:28:04pulled away from everybody else, Wote, Blankenship, Lewandowski,

1:28:04 > 1:28:11O'Hare, but Lewandowski will be wishing it had gone slower! Pushing

1:28:11 > 1:28:18into the 3:35 territory, he is going to be uncomfortable with that. Wote

1:28:18 > 1:28:23doing a good job at the front. Years, and look at Chris O'Hare, he

1:28:23 > 1:28:28has just placed himself differently, so far any race he was positioned

1:28:28 > 1:28:33perfectly, wide enough to step out if something should happen on the

1:28:33 > 1:28:37heels of Iguider, but not getting Blankenship on his shoulder, in

1:28:37 > 1:28:42danger of boxing him in, but here comes Lewandowski.Lewandowski

1:28:42 > 1:28:49making an early move, 300m left for these guys, they will take the bell,

1:28:49 > 1:28:52Wote still leading, Iguider looks comfortable, Chris gritting his

1:28:52 > 1:28:56teeth, Lewandowski shut him out. Good move by the Pole, Chris O'Hare

1:28:56 > 1:29:02with some work to do, he will have to find something on this last lap,

1:29:02 > 1:29:05still five men in contention with just two spots. Chris is struggling.

1:29:05 > 1:29:11Blankenship down the outside, Chris O'Hare will not get into the top

1:29:11 > 1:29:17two. Lewandowski on the inside, that is dangerous, he will try to find a

1:29:17 > 1:29:21way through but he has run out of gas. Iguider looking very

1:29:21 > 1:29:26comfortable, Blankenship, oh! I think Wote was rewarded for his

1:29:26 > 1:29:33frontrunning with second spot, very tight on the line. Iguider looked

1:29:33 > 1:29:36completely in control whole way. Chris had nothing, I am not sure if

1:29:36 > 1:29:40he has missed is training with that injury that he has had, and

1:29:40 > 1:29:46therefore when the pace went harder, he was always going to be able to

1:29:46 > 1:29:50kick, but he has lacked a bit of training to stay with a good pace.

1:29:50 > 1:29:53Sadly for Chris, very much a confidence runner, and he has not

1:29:53 > 1:29:57been able to get that from his training coming into this, to really

1:29:57 > 1:30:00believe he could commit. Much as he tries to talk himself into it, when

1:30:00 > 1:30:04the chips are down and he has got to react, he was really tightening up,

1:30:04 > 1:30:09he didn't have it in his legs, he didn't look as though he was pushing

1:30:09 > 1:30:12fully, and he is quick to take his shoe off, I am hoping that the

1:30:12 > 1:30:18injury is not too serious.

1:30:18 > 1:30:23But really Iguider run it perfectly and in fact it was Lewandowski who

1:30:23 > 1:30:30make mistakes. When he made his move Chris O'Hare tried to react but just

1:30:30 > 1:30:35did not have it in his legs to be able to follow Lewandowski.

1:30:35 > 1:30:40Lewandowski may be showing his inexperience a little bit over 1500

1:30:40 > 1:30:45metres, just pushing on too soon and it was Blankenship was slightly

1:30:45 > 1:30:49misjudged, not getting into the top two position but judged his race

1:30:49 > 1:30:53well to give himself every chance of the home straight of overhauling

1:30:53 > 1:31:01Wote. But the youth with which Iguider just floated past Wote. --

1:31:01 > 1:31:07the ease.

1:31:07 > 1:31:12the ease.I'm trying to work this out. I think Chris must be suffering

1:31:12 > 1:31:22injury wise because 56, 42, 43, that is easy within their normal grasp.

1:31:22 > 1:31:26So Wote rewarded with the front running, Chris looks to be in a bit

1:31:26 > 1:31:32of pain, pretty sure his foot has caused problems. That is the only

1:31:32 > 1:31:35explanation for the obviously he missed a fair bit of training so a

1:31:35 > 1:31:40sad sight to see Chris there. He sounded confident in the interview

1:31:40 > 1:31:44beforehand but obviously that foot causing problems. So just to confirm

1:31:44 > 1:31:50the results,

1:31:50 > 1:31:57the results, Souleiman -- Iguider and Wote in the lead. Let's just

1:31:57 > 1:32:02find out what went wrong. We saw those pictures there Chris, the

1:32:02 > 1:32:09heartbreak and also the pain. How are you feeling? Not great. Seven,

1:32:09 > 1:32:15800 metres to go, just took a couple of steps right on the outside of my

1:32:15 > 1:32:24foot. And just started grabbing. Tried to get it out of my mind but

1:32:24 > 1:32:29when I tried to force through that stride I could feel it just a bit.

1:32:29 > 1:32:37Kind of week. Unfortunately you need to be on your a game and it is just

1:32:37 > 1:32:44unfortunate. That season that started so well has finished like

1:32:44 > 1:32:54this. Huge thanks to everyone that has come out to support me.Thank

1:32:54 > 1:33:04you very much for talking to us. Painful for Chris O'Hare, mentally

1:33:04 > 1:33:10and physically, that injury causing ongoing problems. And this is the

1:33:10 > 1:33:21line-up for the second of the heats. Chris O'Hare is hanging on with the

1:33:21 > 1:33:31three fastest losers.

1:33:33 > 1:33:37There are high calibre athletes in here as well and there will also

1:33:37 > 1:33:44know about the pace from the first tee. Berglund came onto the scene as

1:33:44 > 1:33:50a youngster, the Swedish champion.

1:33:58 > 1:34:09Vincent Kibet in there as well.

1:34:11 > 1:34:16This is a quick heat as well and are loaded heat, a lot of guys in here

1:34:16 > 1:34:25will fancy their chances in a fast finish. Looking at the likes of

1:34:25 > 1:34:33maybe Berglund to take it on. It is silly when they have a very strong

1:34:33 > 1:34:38heat not to take up the chances offered to them by knowing the times

1:34:38 > 1:34:42of the past -- of the fastest losers in the previous heat. Just looking

1:34:42 > 1:34:52at the back there Vincent Kibet, running pretty well. And there is

1:34:52 > 1:34:59the Olympic finalist in the Rio Games, Ryan Kay Wrexham there. --

1:34:59 > 1:35:10Ryan Gregson.

1:35:15 > 1:35:28And there we have the

1:35:35 > 1:35:4318-year-old Tefera. Ryan Gregson not racing as well as he has done in

1:35:43 > 1:35:54previous years. The young Ethiopian came a bit too close there, Tefera.

1:35:54 > 1:36:00But he has hit the front. You see that so often, with a teenage

1:36:00 > 1:36:04Ethiopian you may not know too much about, he has huge talent. Again

1:36:04 > 1:36:09combining that talent with racing knowledge as well, that is what he

1:36:09 > 1:36:13has to do.When you have as much talent as him if you had the front

1:36:13 > 1:36:17and just run hard you're not going to go too far wrong especially in

1:36:17 > 1:36:23qualifying. He looks very relaxed and easy. Just decided to get out of

1:36:23 > 1:36:32trouble and run a bit quicker. Starting to feel the pace soon, a

1:36:32 > 1:36:37smile on his face, Tefera. And Vincent Kibet also beginning to

1:36:37 > 1:36:49stretch out. So the pace lifts and they hit the bell. It looks like the

1:36:49 > 1:36:54two upfront are in control.

1:36:56 > 1:37:00two upfront are in control. Ryan Gregson has not finished yet. Tefera

1:37:00 > 1:37:06out in front. The 18-year-old with a bit of a gap, Vincent Kibet trying

1:37:06 > 1:37:13to get there. Plenty of pace for Vincent Kibet and he goes through

1:37:13 > 1:37:23with Tefera. Slower than the first heat, Ryan Gregson. That was a

1:37:23 > 1:37:31change of pace from Tefera and Vincent Kibet, they go through

1:37:31 > 1:37:36automatically. So I think Ryan Gregson run out of it.A shame for

1:37:36 > 1:37:40him, just not did not commit enough to get moving in the race. Aware of

1:37:40 > 1:37:44the times, he felt he had the pace to be able to get past Vincent

1:37:44 > 1:37:49Kibet. Vincent Kibet, his head was back and he seemed to be struggling

1:37:49 > 1:37:53but he had more left in the tank but just looking around him and easing

1:37:53 > 1:38:00through. Neither looking as easy as Tefera did in front.Tefera winning

1:38:00 > 1:38:03that and looking impressive as well. And Vincent Kibet going through

1:38:03 > 1:38:11automatically. Chris O'Hare still in the fastest losers places at the

1:38:11 > 1:38:18moment. Although still struggling with his injury.

1:38:19 > 1:38:29So the world leader in this triple jump competition, Orji.

1:38:33 > 1:38:34jump competition, Orji. Rojas of Venezuela. A similar kind of

1:38:34 > 1:38:41distance.Accelerates into the board and maintains the speed. Just goes a

1:38:41 > 1:38:52little bit high. Good solid jumping. The American has made a good

1:38:52 > 1:38:57improvement this year.

1:38:59 > 1:39:03improvement this year. 14 .13 here today, in second place. Kimberly

1:39:03 > 1:39:10Williams, seven times the Jamaican champion. Sixth and seventh at the

1:39:10 > 1:39:15Olympic Games.

1:39:17 > 1:39:29Olympic Games. Over 14 metres. The very first jump off the competition,

1:39:29 > 1:39:36the Venezuelan out in front. What goes up must come down. Handling

1:39:36 > 1:39:45those forces really nicely with room to spare.Really worked that step

1:39:45 > 1:39:53phase very well. She has laid down a serious marker in the first round.

1:39:54 > 1:39:59Well use in the 1500 metres, Jake Wightman went in the first heat and

1:39:59 > 1:40:05Suleiman is not here, he would have been a major danger. We heard he had

1:40:05 > 1:40:13these problems. Not lining up here. So that means I think Chris O'Hare

1:40:13 > 1:40:18will almost definitely now be in the final.Helped out by that second

1:40:18 > 1:40:27heat, Ryan Gregson not quick enough to challenge the fastest losers.

1:40:27 > 1:40:32to challenge the fastest losers. The only thing that could stop Chris

1:40:32 > 1:40:41O'Hare is perhaps Engels. The Suleiman the others would have to

1:40:41 > 1:40:51put in a big personal best. Soloshenko has never broken the

1:40:51 > 1:40:56record.

1:40:58 > 1:41:04record. Enzema is not going to do it either.

1:41:10 > 1:41:16Engels there, nice moustache, liking that!

1:41:27 > 1:41:31Jake Wightman has been impressive and I think he has a great chance

1:41:31 > 1:41:35here. He will be over the moon with the way things have turned out for

1:41:35 > 1:41:41this heat. So Chris O'Hare, only three men in this race as I say.

1:41:41 > 1:41:54Only two of them can go through. So will Engels for instance think OK,

1:41:56 > 1:42:01maybe I should just try to make a decent pace. Does not look like it

1:42:01 > 1:42:09so far. It is Enzema who takes it out. Once they let it take away it

1:42:09 > 1:42:15is essentially gone. You get a first impression of what is happening in

1:42:15 > 1:42:19the first few strides and Engels just looking around him, not

1:42:19 > 1:42:22interested in going to the front and taking it up at all. Quite happy to

1:42:22 > 1:42:28settle in. Gaps already opening up. Even though it is a very pedestrian

1:42:28 > 1:42:36pace. Jake almost could not believe that seeding with rumours that

1:42:36 > 1:42:40Suleiman might not be here. It is crazy he had not withdrawn the heats

1:42:40 > 1:42:50this morning.

1:42:55 > 1:43:03Another lap so at this and then it will be between three. Engels needs

1:43:03 > 1:43:10to trust his kick,

1:43:15 > 1:43:18to trust his kick, Kaazouzi certainly will. There is no one

1:43:18 > 1:43:21around you, fairly easy at this point. So he just needs to

1:43:21 > 1:43:24concentrate and be there when the pace picks up and make sure he does

1:43:24 > 1:43:31not give everyone a head start. Not to tempt fate but not the kind of

1:43:31 > 1:43:35phrase were you expect anyone to get tripped or be in any kind of danger.

1:43:35 > 1:43:41So Jake has a clean run at this. His main dangers in the race in front of

1:43:41 > 1:43:47him so he just needs to wait and bide his time and save as much

1:43:47 > 1:43:51energy as account for the final one. While not getting too complacent.

1:43:51 > 1:43:55Sometimes the body just does not wake up, the adrenaline is not

1:43:55 > 1:44:01flowing as much as it would be in a tougher heat.Chris O'Hare I can

1:44:01 > 1:44:06tell you now is going to be through. No way they can drag this back to

1:44:06 > 1:44:143.40 two. So Engels, Kaazouzi and Jake Wightman will have two fight it

1:44:14 > 1:44:20out. I cannot believe Engels has not started to wind them up a little

1:44:20 > 1:44:27bit. Jake might just want to think about now moving into the last 500

1:44:27 > 1:44:31metres about at what point he wants to make sure he's in the position he

1:44:31 > 1:44:36wants to be in. Does he want to go from the front, is he happy to give

1:44:36 > 1:44:41these to three metres, with two laps to go. Jake Wightman just following

1:44:41 > 1:44:49Kaazouzi. And now Engels moving to the front. And Jake reacts quickly.

1:44:49 > 1:44:54He has been racing well over 800 metres. He might go sooner rather

1:44:54 > 1:44:58than later because he wants to make sure he has got this wrapped up and

1:44:58 > 1:45:04he goes convincingly into the final. He has got himself at the front, he

1:45:04 > 1:45:10likes to be at the front. He has not made his big kick yet. Engels still

1:45:10 > 1:45:16there, Kaazouzi still there. Jake needs to just keep the pressure on.

1:45:16 > 1:45:23Stretching down the back straight. Engels starting to struggle.

1:45:23 > 1:45:26Excellent from Jake Wightman. Completely controlling this, looking

1:45:26 > 1:45:31good. Just keep moving away. Excellent stuff from Jake Wightman.

1:45:31 > 1:45:37Kaazouzi wins the battle for second. And that is smart running from Jake

1:45:37 > 1:45:41Wightman, he knows he does not have the acceleration that some people

1:45:41 > 1:45:47have so he just winds up a bit. Got himself in front, controlling it

1:45:47 > 1:45:52from here. Then he just winds up. Does not let anyone use the

1:45:52 > 1:45:56acceleration and he gets himself clear. Great stuff, excellent 1500

1:45:56 > 1:46:03metre running. Into the final and Chris O'Hare will join him.Really

1:46:03 > 1:46:08great run from Jake Wightman and that has got to give him a big

1:46:08 > 1:46:14confidence boost. Moving through into the final. When he went, he was

1:46:14 > 1:46:20controlled, he did not go suddenly. While did a very gradually. Moved

1:46:20 > 1:46:28fast to demonstrate. -- wound it up very gradually. Cut straight round

1:46:28 > 1:46:33and moved in front Kaazouzi and controlled the race from there.

1:46:33 > 1:46:39Checking the screen, working hard. He will be where that Engels was

1:46:39 > 1:46:45waiting, he knew Kaazouzi was on the inside. A little bit wide down the

1:46:45 > 1:46:55back straight. And he checks up, still has more left, working hard

1:46:55 > 1:46:58but definitely has more left in the tank to react if needed. Contrast

1:46:58 > 1:47:04that to Engels going all out to try to reel in Kaazouzi. And Kaazouzi

1:47:04 > 1:47:10will not go through, it was just too slow.

1:47:13 > 1:47:19Great performance, the crowd certainly loved it!At the home

1:47:19 > 1:47:23championships, when you hit the front, the raw is something else.

1:47:23 > 1:47:27The top three go through in that event, but three was not enough for

1:47:27 > 1:47:35you, you wanted to win that heat.We knew the first heat was pretty

1:47:35 > 1:47:39quick, and the second, so I realise we were not on pace, so I had to

1:47:39 > 1:47:43come out and try to win the heat, felt pretty good. How much has it

1:47:43 > 1:47:50taken out of you?The good thing is that the next race is an evening, so

1:47:50 > 1:47:55I will have a nap, ready to come back tomorrow.Great, thank you very

1:47:55 > 1:48:00much for speaking to us. Very tidily done from Jake Wightman,

1:48:00 > 1:48:11and when I see later, I will tell him 38.01 in the last segment,

1:48:11 > 1:48:14excellent performance. Let's have another word with Paula

1:48:14 > 1:48:19Radcliffe about those 1500m semifinals, from a British

1:48:19 > 1:48:23perspective, really couldn't be more contrasting, the way that the races

1:48:23 > 1:48:28and out. We will focus on Chris O'Hare first, he has got himself

1:48:28 > 1:48:30into the final by virtue of being the fastest loser, but he was

1:48:30 > 1:48:34complaining about his foot when he was being interviewed, is he likely

1:48:34 > 1:48:40to risk that.

1:48:40 > 1:48:43to risk that.If it is just an injury that is pain and he is not

1:48:43 > 1:48:48able to get the push off, which is kind of what he was saying in the

1:48:48 > 1:48:52race, he might just come out and give it a go, but if it is anything

1:48:52 > 1:48:56that will endanger the rest of his season or his long-term career, he

1:48:56 > 1:49:02will not make that decision to step out. It was hard seeing him run like

1:49:02 > 1:49:06that, he wasn't himself, even in the prerace interview. But certainly in

1:49:06 > 1:49:11the race and afterwards, he was immediately taking his shoe, didn't

1:49:11 > 1:49:14look happy.Steve said head of the first of the semifinals, they

1:49:14 > 1:49:20fraught with danger, the tactics, as they are outside, but those extra

1:49:20 > 1:49:25laps indoors. Jake Wightman navigated that beautifully. He did,

1:49:25 > 1:49:28he benefited from another danger indoors, in that they had not raised

1:49:28 > 1:49:35very much in dollars, so the races were not balanced very well at all.

1:49:35 > 1:49:39But he judged is perfectly, took the cards that he was given, handled

1:49:39 > 1:49:43them with perfection. The others in that final will be looking at him,

1:49:43 > 1:49:47if they weren't already, as a big danger. He is in very good shape, he

1:49:47 > 1:49:52will have got a big confidence boost from that. He will feel a little bit

1:49:52 > 1:49:54for Chris O'Hare, I do not know whether that would have been going

1:49:54 > 1:50:00through his mind in the race, very smart, he knew he was racing for the

1:50:00 > 1:50:04first two, and he ran the best race for him to be able to control that,

1:50:04 > 1:50:08win it and go through without danger. In terms of the strength of

1:50:08 > 1:50:13the field, as you look at the line up for the final, where do the main

1:50:13 > 1:50:18threats come from? Can Jake Wightman run himself into the medals? He has

1:50:18 > 1:50:24definitely got a chance, everyone in the final has, Enzema always has to

1:50:24 > 1:50:31be watched, even though he didn't look too good going into the closing

1:50:31 > 1:50:35straight there, he has made a decision to commit to 1500m, he

1:50:35 > 1:50:42could have come for the 800m, but he has decided his future lies in the

1:50:42 > 1:50:461500. If it goes slow, he is a danger, but Jake is looking good.

1:50:46 > 1:50:51And the Commonwealth Games is just weeks away, Chris O'Hare would have

1:50:51 > 1:50:55been a big hope for Scotland.Yes, his long-term view has to be what is

1:50:55 > 1:50:59going to be the best? Can I race in the Commonwealth Games? Do I maybe

1:50:59 > 1:51:04need to not take my place here? Or is it something that I can race

1:51:04 > 1:51:09through and it will continue to get better?Thank you very much, Paula,

1:51:09 > 1:51:18the women's 800m coming up soon, we will chat

1:51:18 > 1:51:20will chat about Shelayna Oskan-Clarke, but in the meantime

1:51:20 > 1:51:27the triple jump is hotting up. It is a steady start for most of the

1:51:27 > 1:51:31athletes, the indoor and outdoor world champion, Rojas, finds herself

1:51:31 > 1:51:35in second place, Kimberly Williams has taken the lead. So a second

1:51:35 > 1:51:43jump, a chance to respond for Rojas. Again, around 14 metres, and...

1:51:43 > 1:51:49Didn't make enough of the hop phase, really short, made it difficult,

1:51:49 > 1:51:54didn't come off the board. Just dropped it in early, got a bit of a

1:51:54 > 1:51:57stretch. Let's have a look at the distance, whether she will challenge

1:51:57 > 1:52:08for the lead.Below what we would have expected, 14.37, the shortest

1:52:08 > 1:52:16distance to have won this is a previous of 14.41, two years ago. We

1:52:16 > 1:52:20turn our attention to an event that was concluded yesterday evening, the

1:52:20 > 1:52:27women's shot put. And it was a battle for the bronze medal between

1:52:27 > 1:52:40the two Chinese athletes, Gong and Gao, and experience told. A national

1:52:40 > 1:52:53indoor record for Danielle Thomas-Dodd, good 19.2 to there. It

1:52:53 > 1:53:03was gold for Anita Marton. Well, she led pretty much from the start, she

1:53:03 > 1:53:13extended that lead in the third round, 19.48, and then confirmed her

1:53:13 > 1:53:18authority over the competition, 19.62, a new world lead in the final

1:53:18 > 1:53:24round. Silver last time, two years ago, so for the first time ever we

1:53:24 > 1:53:33will hear the Hungarian national anthem, first gold for Marton.

1:53:35 > 1:53:41HUNGARIAN NATIONAL ANTHEM PLAYS

1:54:31 > 1:54:36APPLAUSE

1:54:36 > 1:54:39A POPULAR VICTORY, THAT, ANITA MARTON, NOT THE MOST POWERFUL, THE

1:54:39 > 1:54:47TALLEST OF THE STRONGEST, BUT ONE OF THE MOST ATHLETIC, FASTEST, A WORLD

1:54:47 > 1:54:51LEADING MARK, 19.62, silver two years ago, promoted to gold here in

1:54:51 > 1:54:59Birmingham.

1:55:05 > 1:55:10Just a reminder of the men's 1500m and how it went, these are the

1:55:10 > 1:55:13qualifiers, and you see the names of Chris O'Hare and Jake Wightman,

1:55:13 > 1:55:20qualifying in very different factions. Chris O'Hare went through

1:55:20 > 1:55:23in real discomfort, I think he will struggle in the final, should he

1:55:23 > 1:55:27run. Jake Wightman looked very impressive, slower heat, but

1:55:27 > 1:55:36controlled it to win. The talented young Ethiopian in there, Tefera.

1:55:36 > 1:55:43Good line up for the final, and the final is tomorrow evening, as Jake

1:55:43 > 1:55:53Wightman said, time to recover. Well, Kimberly Williams is in the

1:55:53 > 1:56:01lead, that first league of 14.37 enough in a surprisingly lacklustre

1:56:01 > 1:56:06competition so far, but looking to extend that lead here, then. It is

1:56:06 > 1:56:14another jump over 14 metres. I mention -- Hansen, who took the

1:56:14 > 1:56:19title all our time ago, 15.01, and now the athletes are struggling

1:56:19 > 1:56:24around the 14 metres mark. Must have caught her mouth there, I think.

1:56:24 > 1:56:34That is a great jump. Really working the floor. At that moment, I think,

1:56:34 > 1:56:39oh, there you go, she has not hurt mouth, she's just happy, 14.41, that

1:56:39 > 1:56:49cements her first place. And she is emotional because it is a PB!Well,

1:56:49 > 1:56:53after five events in the heptathlon which has been going on over the

1:56:53 > 1:56:58last two days, as expected, Kevin Mayer of France is out in front,

1:56:58 > 1:57:02four points ahead of Damian Warner, who has made massive ground, big

1:57:02 > 1:57:05improvements for the Canadian, we look forward to seeing him at the

1:57:05 > 1:57:10Commonwealth Games. Kai Kazmirek blistering over the sprint hurdles,

1:57:10 > 1:57:18pole-vault is next, only the 1000m to go later this evening. So, then,

1:57:18 > 1:57:25here is Damian Warner, in that silver medal spot, he has had two

1:57:26 > 1:57:32fouls, this would be a lifetime best indoors for Warner, and he has got

1:57:32 > 1:57:45it, brilliant competitive jump, needed it.Kevin Mayer is

1:57:45 > 1:57:47needed it.Kevin Mayer is 5.14 pole-vault, his coach there, who he

1:57:47 > 1:57:51has just moved to last year, who has made some real differences. If he

1:57:51 > 1:57:57can stay close to Kevin Mayer, it is going to be an absolute foot race,

1:57:57 > 1:58:02the 1000m, for gold. With height to spare for Warner, Mayer has not come

1:58:02 > 1:58:12in yet. He is that competent a pole-vault.

1:58:12 > 1:58:15I'm delighted to say that Colin Jackson is here to show off his

1:58:15 > 1:58:19winter knitwear collection! We were just having a conversation about the

1:58:19 > 1:58:23multi-event is, and I left you hanging a bit earlier, because we

1:58:23 > 1:58:29were talking about how so many women, and more than ever here it

1:58:29 > 1:58:31seems to be specialising in individual events coming from the

1:58:31 > 1:58:34multi-events background, but somebody posed the question on

1:58:34 > 1:58:38Twitter, why are not many men doing that? About eight o'clock last

1:58:38 > 1:58:45night, suddenly, the penny dropped, and you went, I know, the Norwegian

1:58:45 > 1:58:54who want in London over the hurdles, who started as a multi-event. Of the

1:58:54 > 1:58:59theory is that men go into their speciality earlier.I think that is

1:58:59 > 1:59:06right, when you look at athletes who started as juniors as decathlete or

1:59:06 > 1:59:11heptathletes, I think that is what happens. We were discussing the lack

1:59:11 > 1:59:16of British decathletes, especially when we had such an incredible

1:59:16 > 1:59:19ambassador for the sport in Daley Thompson.Is spot-on, I looked at

1:59:19 > 1:59:24the knees, and we were talking about the legacy of sport, and how great

1:59:24 > 1:59:31champions, and Daley Thompson is a clear winner for us. So where does

1:59:31 > 1:59:36Mayer get his influence from? So she was listing the great male

1:59:36 > 1:59:43decathlete from France to completely went out of our mind.Prost, and the

1:59:43 > 1:59:49French record-holder before Kevin Mayer, so just tradition and depth,

1:59:49 > 1:59:53but I also think there is a real passion for combined events in

1:59:53 > 1:59:57Europe, and we lost that a lot in Britain. I think some of it does

1:59:57 > 2:00:03come down to the coaching, and the standard of the coaching, bringing

2:00:03 > 2:00:10it all together, having someone to overview all of the disciplines.

2:00:10 > 2:00:16He used to the reason, it is hard to a living but actually with lottery

2:00:16 > 2:00:23funding perhaps it makes it more accessible.I would think so but

2:00:23 > 2:00:29also you know, you need a real commitment to the event. At the end

2:00:29 > 2:00:35of the day as athletes you're motivated by wanting to be the best

2:00:35 > 2:00:41you can be, by recognition, and money. And with the multi-events it

2:00:41 > 2:00:44is difficult, you need to be the best of the best to get that kind

2:00:44 > 2:00:50of, to hit that. You need to be the best of the best. Whereas if you're

2:00:50 > 2:00:56not the best of the best in a single event, you can do OK.I think it

2:00:56 > 2:01:00starts from the grassroots and school level, having that broader

2:01:00 > 2:01:06base. Sometimes in the UK youngsters are not exposed to enough diverse

2:01:06 > 2:01:10multi-events and that has an impact the further up you go in the chain.

2:01:10 > 2:01:15You need to start early. Well the Frenchman Kevin Maher, of course in

2:01:15 > 2:01:22the lead, moving between him and Damian Warner, just entering the

2:01:22 > 2:01:27pole-vault. He is a very good pole-vault.Looking confident today?

2:01:27 > 2:01:35He has warmed up well and had a long wait since then. You might remember

2:01:35 > 2:01:40last year he waited to 5.20 and went out at the third time of asking. So

2:01:40 > 2:01:45maybe making sure that he can take the gold this afternoon. Five

2:01:45 > 2:01:51metres, first attempt. And absolutely aces it. That took the

2:01:51 > 2:01:59pressure off.He had a 45 minute wait since his warm up. A little bit

2:01:59 > 2:02:04casual on the planet. Did not have an active bottom hand really, the

2:02:04 > 2:02:15left hand. But an easy start. So now we turn our attention to the

2:02:15 > 2:02:23800 metres. Oskan-Clarke of Great Britain did very well last year in

2:02:23 > 2:02:26the European indoors with silver medal. She pushed yourself onto the

2:02:26 > 2:02:33global stage in terms of recognition with the final in ageing in 2015. We

2:02:33 > 2:02:38caught up with earlier. I would be lying to say I'd do not want to get

2:02:38 > 2:02:43a medal, I would. But for me it is about that first step. I try not to

2:02:43 > 2:02:48think too far ahead. It is the first step of making the final. So I will

2:02:48 > 2:02:53be delighted to make the final and then go from there. I do not put

2:02:53 > 2:02:59limits on myself. If I was to do that then anything could happen. So

2:02:59 > 2:03:06my first goal is to make the final. Your PB just a shade of two minutes,

2:03:06 > 2:03:12are you going to break the two minutes?I hope so, I think you need

2:03:12 > 2:03:16that in you to make the time, to be able to run under two minutes. Some

2:03:16 > 2:03:21of the girls have already done that. So they can do it. I think I want to

2:03:21 > 2:03:29do that to make the final. And I do think I can do it.

2:03:29 > 2:03:35Well her heat is up second but first the runners and riders with Andrew

2:03:35 > 2:03:42Carter.Well one of the favourites, Wilson of the United States. So

2:03:42 > 2:03:49impressive this year. And she has been threatening, sort of the big

2:03:49 > 2:04:00three with Caster Semenya.

2:04:03 > 2:04:14And Niyonsaba. It is tight, the 800 metres. Just the winner to go

2:04:14 > 2:04:18through automatically and then the three fastest losers over the three

2:04:18 > 2:04:23effective semifinals.

2:04:29 > 2:04:44Velvere there. The Ethiopian on the outside, the record-holder outdoors.

2:04:44 > 2:05:00Gives you an idea of quality. The European champion

2:05:00 > 2:05:08European champion over five, Chicoka. Wilson, silver at the last

2:05:08 > 2:05:13world indoors.

2:05:16 > 2:05:25world indoors. Then the Spanish champion. Just want to go through

2:05:25 > 2:05:30automatically. So no chances can be taken here. The three fastest losers

2:05:30 > 2:05:36over the three heat.

2:05:40 > 2:05:43over the three heat. Wilson can try to control this. The way that she is

2:05:43 > 2:05:47running this season is so impressive. I'm sure she would look

2:05:47 > 2:05:52to hit the front and stay there for the remainder. She is very

2:05:52 > 2:05:57experienced on the global stage and indoors. Will very much look to

2:05:57 > 2:06:01control the race. She knows the main danger will come from probably

2:06:01 > 2:06:08Chicoka although she has struggled a little bit, did not look quite as

2:06:08 > 2:06:17comfortable as over 800 metres. And the tape at the back of her leg as

2:06:17 > 2:06:22well. When Wilson hits the front, the danger is then just the others

2:06:22 > 2:06:25know Wilson will have the strength to outkicked them at the end. But

2:06:25 > 2:06:30they want a quick race because it is the three fastest losers and the

2:06:30 > 2:06:35first of the three heats. So Wilson at the front with Chichoka behind

2:06:35 > 2:06:43will be wanting to keep it as a fairly fast level. They will want to

2:06:43 > 2:06:48keep moving and keep the exit routes open. Wilson just drifting a bid to

2:06:48 > 2:06:55the outside, leaving a bit of space if Chichoka had it in her to be able

2:06:55 > 2:07:01to sneak through. Blocked a little bit on the outside. Cannot go wrong.

2:07:01 > 2:07:05Not particularly quick through the first 400. Wilson still in front and

2:07:05 > 2:07:11still seemingly in

2:07:13 > 2:07:15still seemingly in control with Alemu. So the bell sounds and Wilson

2:07:15 > 2:07:24still in front. Alemu now moving around Chichoka. Just the winner to

2:07:24 > 2:07:29go through automatically. Wilson unmoved at the moment. Immovable.

2:07:29 > 2:07:36Carrying on and lifting the pace. And I think Chichoka hit the inside

2:07:36 > 2:07:44rail but Alemu try to catch Wilson but Wilson just moved away. A pretty

2:07:44 > 2:07:57even pace. Plenty left to spare.A demonstration from the American. She

2:07:57 > 2:08:00was a class apart from the others in that race and just ran how she

2:08:00 > 2:08:07wanted to do it, out of trouble, at the front. Enough to make the others

2:08:07 > 2:08:11settle in behind her and then staying in control of it. Only

2:08:11 > 2:08:18picking up as much as you need to hold off the rest convincingly. Very

2:08:18 > 2:08:22easily through to the final. Alemu behind, had herself in the right

2:08:22 > 2:08:28position to be able to react. And Chichoka not able to get out and she

2:08:28 > 2:08:34had that stumble which knocked her off. So she just could not real in

2:08:34 > 2:08:38Alemu and will have to wait to see if that is quick enough to get one

2:08:38 > 2:08:43of the fastest losers spots. Interesting with the pace because

2:08:43 > 2:08:49through the 61 seconds in the first 400 then the others unable to

2:08:49 > 2:08:53maintain that. So Wilson goes through as automatic qualifier. The

2:08:53 > 2:09:05others need to wait and see. Damian Warner of Canada having a

2:09:05 > 2:09:14really good afternoon. A good couple of days, in fact. This is his third

2:09:14 > 2:09:17try, five metres. To give Kevin Maher is something to think about.

2:09:17 > 2:09:26But too much today. Warner, five metres, already a lifetime best at

2:09:26 > 2:09:34four metres 90. Third time of asking, PB. In second place but a

2:09:34 > 2:09:39bit of David and Goliath because the Frenchman is a superb pole vault and

2:09:39 > 2:09:43he can need now is sit and watch with only 1000 readers remaining. He

2:09:43 > 2:09:49can just hope

2:09:49 > 2:09:56can just hope that Mayer does not progress out of his reach.

2:09:57 > 2:10:03progress out of his reach.A great vault, 30 centimetres better than

2:10:03 > 2:10:08his PB. Over to the women's triple jump now.Looking across to the

2:10:08 > 2:10:15opposite side of the Arena in Birmingham, Rojas in second place

2:10:15 > 2:10:22behind Williams of Jamaica.

2:10:22 > 2:10:23behind Williams of Jamaica. Looking almost laboured through those

2:10:23 > 2:10:35phases, Rojas. 14 metres 24. Not quite as crisp as we have seen her

2:10:35 > 2:10:38in the past. That could be down to the waiting around, if you have 15

2:10:38 > 2:10:43minutes to wait you just go off the boil a bit. We are starting to see

2:10:43 > 2:10:50the competition hots up when they cut the field down from 17 to eight.

2:10:50 > 2:10:56Another valid jump, 14 .27, an improvement, but still in second

2:10:56 > 2:11:03place. Here is a man in a fight for a bronze medal, jumped superbly in

2:11:03 > 2:11:16the high jump, Uibo of Estonia. Look at that.Up towards his best. The

2:11:16 > 2:11:20gap between his left arm out straight. He puts all the energy

2:11:20 > 2:11:28into that. 5.10 is great and plenty more to come.Loads to spare and

2:11:28 > 2:11:33that bodes well as we increase in ten centimetre increments. In the

2:11:33 > 2:11:38bronze medal fight and Kazmirek of Germany is in the bronze medal place

2:11:38 > 2:11:46at the moment. Looking to match 5.10 and he does. Another huge clearance

2:11:46 > 2:11:55as well. The multi-inventors looking like they are in shape in the

2:11:55 > 2:11:59pole-vault.Five metres used to be an unusual thing. Now it is

2:11:59 > 2:12:09commonplace. That is how good these the vaulters are.We now move across

2:12:09 > 2:12:18to the next heat, the brutal heat really in this round of the women's

2:12:18 > 2:12:23800 metres, in contrast to the man of course. Oskan-Clarke hoping to

2:12:23 > 2:12:26make it through. You could make a case for every single one of them to

2:12:26 > 2:12:35win this with possibly the

2:12:35 > 2:12:39win this with possibly the exception of Chebet on the inside. The

2:12:39 > 2:12:46European indoor champion in this heat and then a very good new

2:12:46 > 2:12:52American on the outside, very dangerous.

2:12:54 > 2:13:00dangerous. So Oskan-Clarke to win this and you need to win to

2:13:00 > 2:13:04guarantee a place in the final, that is going to be tough. Needs to be at

2:13:04 > 2:13:09her best but she has shown that already this year and let's hope she

2:13:09 > 2:13:14can produce that. Rogers I think will be a danger. And you can never

2:13:14 > 2:13:18write off Buchel. Although not running as well as she has done in

2:13:18 > 2:13:27the past. But a redoubtable competitor much like Oskan-Clarke.

2:13:31 > 2:13:36A couple of races to get warmed up and then a great performance in the

2:13:36 > 2:13:43trials.Here is Kimberly Williams, the event leader, looking to extend

2:13:43 > 2:13:51the lead in the triple jump. She knows Rojas is capable, having

2:13:51 > 2:14:04already jumped a lifetime best. Getting towards the halfway stage.

2:14:05 > 2:14:10Williams: to the jumper of the third round. We have then the top eight

2:14:10 > 2:14:13and then just the top four in the final round as in the rest of the

2:14:13 > 2:14:20events. She extended her lead.

2:14:25 > 2:14:29Well, she is a really smart racer, Oskan-Clarke, I just wonder whether

2:14:29 > 2:14:34Rogers, lacking a bit of experience at this level, from Texas, she has

2:14:34 > 2:14:37been at the University of Oregon, has just finished her collegiate

2:14:37 > 2:14:45career. Oskan-Clarke gets a huge reception, of course the joint team

2:14:45 > 2:14:54skip at the champs, Selina Buchel, very good 800m runner in doors. The

2:14:54 > 2:15:00two of them know each other very well. Jenna Westaway, she has run

2:15:00 > 2:15:04quicker in doors this year than she has managed outdoors so far in his

2:15:04 > 2:15:08career. And Winny Chebet, qualified for the 1500 final, don't know how

2:15:08 > 2:15:12much she will contest this, she might want to save herself for the

2:15:12 > 2:15:161500 final. She has to run this, because she was declared for it, if

2:15:16 > 2:15:20she wants to compete tonight. So the winner only and then the next three

2:15:20 > 2:15:29fastest losers, the fastest loser spot in the first heat was 2.2.

2:15:29 > 2:15:33Oskan-Clarke started out on a 400 career, Rogers can run quick relay

2:15:33 > 2:15:37legs, she has gone quicker on the outside, she will be a danger if it

2:15:37 > 2:15:42is slow, and they move across, Rogers deciding not to go to the

2:15:42 > 2:15:47front, you can see she was happy to let Oskan-Clarke take the lead, and

2:15:47 > 2:15:55she won't necessarily want to leave this. Jenna Westaway has decided,

2:15:55 > 2:16:02you know what, let's make it a proper 800m race!And why not, she

2:16:02 > 2:16:07knows her best chances to run as fast as possible, she will have seen

2:16:07 > 2:16:11the times from the first heat, and she probably would not think that

2:16:11 > 2:16:15she could win this heat outright, so give yourself the best possible

2:16:15 > 2:16:20chance, and she is doing exactly that, and is she doing Jelena

2:16:20 > 2:16:26artisan Clark a big favour, as well as Rogers.Shelayna is leading the

2:16:26 > 2:16:33second past, Westaway is going too fast, the others will catch up,

2:16:33 > 2:16:37Shelayna is leading out the others, trying to close that up a little

2:16:37 > 2:16:41bit, Buchel suffering with her fitness, Rogers will come strong at

2:16:41 > 2:16:46the end, but she doesn't like the fast pace early on. So a lot of

2:16:46 > 2:16:52danger for Jelena Oskan-Clarke, even though Westaway is a good eight

2:16:52 > 2:16:59metres in the lead. You can see Rogers moving around the outside to

2:16:59 > 2:17:03get into closer contention at the bell, and now she's in a good

2:17:03 > 2:17:08position to attack from here.Rogers strong, a very quick 400m runner,

2:17:08 > 2:17:12only the winner will go through, Shelayna will have to hope that

2:17:12 > 2:17:18Rogers has misjudged this. Buchel is still a danger. Oskan-Clarke in a

2:17:18 > 2:17:22good spot, I do not know if she will get it, though, only the winner to

2:17:22 > 2:17:28go through, a scrap to the line, Oskan-Clarke is getting there,

2:17:28 > 2:17:33Buchel got itself boxed terribly, well done, Shelayna. That was a

2:17:33 > 2:17:36tough race, and I think the others have got a good chance of going

2:17:36 > 2:17:41through as fastest losers, Buchel got into a bad position, which was

2:17:41 > 2:17:45good for Shelayna. I was just worried she was leading them as they

2:17:45 > 2:17:50were closing, Rogers did Shelayna a massive favour by going first, and

2:17:50 > 2:17:55then Shelayna was able to latch onto that and come again, didn't panic,

2:17:55 > 2:17:58use all of her experience, digging deep competitively, so she goes

2:17:58 > 2:18:07through, phew!So impressive even in a bad position, she doesn't panic

2:18:07 > 2:18:13and managers to work into a better position. She never panics. She was

2:18:13 > 2:18:22in the wrong place a view times, she went around Rogers, who immediately

2:18:22 > 2:18:27stepped around her and launched the long run for the finish, and in

2:18:27 > 2:18:34doing so she brought the pair of them easily passed Westaway. She put

2:18:34 > 2:18:37Shelayna Oskan-Clarke into that attacking position, and she was able

2:18:37 > 2:18:43to keep her place, keep Michelle out side of her and put herself onto the

2:18:43 > 2:18:47shoulder of Rogers and be able to control that race. She didn't go too

2:18:47 > 2:18:52soon, she could have pushed hard, but she didn't, she waited, and she

2:18:52 > 2:18:56kept something in reserve, and what she also did, I don't know if she

2:18:56 > 2:19:07did it knowingly, she closed Rogers back in to cut her out. So she is

2:19:07 > 2:19:12working

2:19:12 > 2:19:16working hard but not as hard as that desperate search for the line from

2:19:16 > 2:19:26Selina Buchel.Shelayna, you had yourself a race there!Yeah! I

2:19:26 > 2:19:31didn't expect the girl from Canada to go out so fast, change of plan,

2:19:31 > 2:19:37that always happens in the 800, just try to keep as close order as I can

2:19:37 > 2:19:41so that it wouldn't be too hard in the later stages. Have to be quite

2:19:41 > 2:19:47patient going around the bend, I had enough to kick off, yeah! Are

2:19:47 > 2:19:52pleased to be in the final. As you say, a change of plans, what were

2:19:52 > 2:19:58you thinking when she tendered into a race?It was really fast, wasn't

2:19:58 > 2:20:05expecting it, but just to stay cool, calm, just be confident in my

2:20:05 > 2:20:11strength. Yeah, that is what I did. All right, used only to catch your

2:20:11 > 2:20:16breath, one last one about your team performance, you are the captain

2:20:16 > 2:20:21here, has your speech inspired the two medals so far?Welcome to be

2:20:21 > 2:20:25fair, Laura missed the speech, she was struggling to get in in time! I

2:20:25 > 2:20:30hope I inspired them, they have all worked extremely hard to get here,

2:20:30 > 2:20:35they wanted to be here to perform, and really what I wanted to do was

2:20:35 > 2:20:39for them to perform to the best of their ability, leave with no

2:20:39 > 2:20:43regrets, and I hope I have done that.Apologies, I know you have not

2:20:43 > 2:20:47caught your breath, but that performance will have inspired a few

2:20:47 > 2:20:52of your team! Yes, just one other thing to note,

2:20:52 > 2:20:54apart from the other good performance from Oskan-Clarke, Winny

2:20:54 > 2:20:58Chebet had a token effort, you are meant to give a bona fide

2:20:58 > 2:21:01performance, so this will be interesting to see if they look at

2:21:01 > 2:21:12that. She is due to line up in the 1500m final tonight, but she ran

2:21:16 > 2:21:202.18, we will see whether that was a reasonable performance. Lie got the

2:21:20 > 2:21:26shot put is taking way, the sector has been laid out, 20 helpers it

2:21:26 > 2:21:30took to a wrecked the cage around the circle here as the world

2:21:30 > 2:21:37champion, one of the most popular victories in the outdoor

2:21:37 > 2:21:44championships, opens his account in doors. The Kiwi, look at that, that

2:21:44 > 2:21:51is a massive opening throw for Tom Walsh! I thought he might settle

2:21:51 > 2:21:56into the competition, but look at this, quick on the floor, brilliant

2:21:56 > 2:22:00example of how to work the legs. Look at that, that is way beyond 21

2:22:00 > 2:22:07metres! The world leader this year is Tomas Stanek of the Czech

2:22:07 > 2:22:11Republic, 22.17, that might be under threat, but that is an indoor record

2:22:11 > 2:22:21for Tom Walsh.Ready for the last of the heats in the women's 800m,

2:22:21 > 2:22:25Margaret Wambui, a very familiar figure, bronze at the last World

2:22:25 > 2:22:32Indoors, and then Niyonsaba from the Olympics, orderly and over from

2:22:32 > 2:22:40Ukraine, silver last year. -- Lyakhova. Hendry, second at the UK

2:22:40 > 2:22:50in doors, she needs to go close to her personal best here. And the

2:22:50 > 2:22:54stadium announcer doing my work, Niyonsaba, no performance so far

2:22:54 > 2:23:01this season, to measure her, but that was the case in 2016, when she

2:23:01 > 2:23:05went on to win the World Indoors, Niyonsaba will be strong, will be

2:23:05 > 2:23:11quick. Just the winner going through automatically, Mhairi Hendry needs a

2:23:11 > 2:23:18quick run. And the times you are looking core, the fastest losers at

2:23:18 > 2:23:24the moment, the Ethiopian from the first heat and Buchel and Raevyn

2:23:24 > 2:23:29Rogers. You need something inside 2.02, and the others will be

2:23:29 > 2:23:33grateful that Goule was taking it out at a decent lick, Hendry sitting

2:23:33 > 2:23:39beside Wambui at the moment.Goule will have decided she needs to take

2:23:39 > 2:23:44a little bit of a lead from Westaway, take this out quick. She

2:23:44 > 2:23:47hasn't gone quite as fast as Westaway, which is probably better

2:23:47 > 2:23:51for the other girls, but it shows you the strength of the women's 800,

2:23:51 > 2:23:57first and third from the last indoors in the same heat.It is like

2:23:57 > 2:24:01reaching the semifinal stage at some of the outdoor championships,

2:24:01 > 2:24:12everybody here is now high quality. Goule nose, and Niyonsaba, we know

2:24:12 > 2:24:19what kind of form she is, she looks very comfortable typing in behind,

2:24:19 > 2:24:23and Hendry is at the back at the moment, Margaret Wambui should

2:24:23 > 2:24:28finish strongly, she has shown close to two minutes, but still Goule out

2:24:28 > 2:24:33in front.Wambui has been racing, she got a cell selected for the

2:24:33 > 2:24:38Commonwealth Games team, first time that Niyonsaba has raised this

2:24:38 > 2:24:41winter, but as she usually does, she comes out for the indoors

2:24:41 > 2:24:48championships. She is dominating this now.So easy for Francine

2:24:48 > 2:24:54Niyonsaba, a different league to the rest now, as Goule tries to keep

2:24:54 > 2:25:00pace, Mhairi Hendry trying to dig in. Niyonsaba and the Goule,

2:25:00 > 2:25:05pressure from Wambui. Niyonsaba and Wambui, as we might have expected,

2:25:05 > 2:25:08Mhairi Hendry trying to dig in and hold on. Member, three fastest

2:25:08 > 2:25:17losers over three heats, Niyonsaba as no such concerns. Just inside

2:25:17 > 2:25:232.01, and Mhairi Hendry could not get to Goule, Wambui will go through

2:25:23 > 2:25:28with a time from second place, not sure it is quick enough or Goule or

2:25:28 > 2:25:32Hendry, but we will keep an eye on that. Selina Buchel was the quickest

2:25:32 > 2:25:39of the fastest losers coming into this at 2.01, but Niyonsaba, don't

2:25:39 > 2:25:42worry that he has not raised so far this season or we have not seen a

2:25:42 > 2:25:48thing, we knew she would be quick, and I think she moves ahead of Aji

2:25:48 > 2:25:52Wilson as favourite.I think she does, she ran so strongly there,

2:25:52 > 2:26:01running a similar fashion to Wilson, she let Goule run it out early on,

2:26:01 > 2:26:05but then she went out very convincingly. Margaret Wambui was

2:26:05 > 2:26:09not able at any point to get on level terms with Niyonsaba. Mhairi

2:26:09 > 2:26:17Hendry didn't do anything wrong, but she couldn't catch Goule to put a

2:26:17 > 2:26:22socket with a chance of the fastest losers.Decent run from Hendry, we

2:26:22 > 2:26:30can confirm times now. Niyonsaba go through, Wambui will go through, but

2:26:30 > 2:26:41not quick enough for the others. Well, the pole bolsters have been

2:26:41 > 2:26:46progressing, and it has been a really good afternoon for Maicel

2:26:46 > 2:26:51Uibo, the new height of 5.2 zero. A few moments ago this was, the

2:26:51 > 2:27:01Estonian making light work of that. He is a 5.30 jumper at his very best

2:27:01 > 2:27:08outdoors, but that is a very competent effort. Kai Kazmirek

2:27:08 > 2:27:17looking to protect that bronze medal. Matched it. Also clear at

2:27:17 > 2:27:205.20, also at the first time of asking, which does not matter so

2:27:20 > 2:27:29much, it is about the points. A lifetime best by ten centimetres.

2:27:29 > 2:27:33Right then, Kevin Mayer, on two fouls at the same height, he needs

2:27:33 > 2:27:37this if he wants some breathing space in pursuit of a gold medal at

2:27:37 > 2:27:45the Canadian, Warner. Last chance at 5.20, and it is a foul for the

2:27:45 > 2:27:51Frenchman. He knows the importance of that, that makes it a full race

2:27:51 > 2:27:56over the 1000m, the last event of the heptathlon. The critical thing

2:27:56 > 2:28:00here is that it is ten points per second in the 1000m, and the gap

2:28:00 > 2:28:07between the two is now 34 points, so that is three seconds. The

2:28:07 > 2:28:12difference between what they can run is around about three seconds. So

2:28:12 > 2:28:16Warner can win this world title and take it away from Kevin Mayer in the

2:28:16 > 2:28:251000m.5.60 at his best, Mayer, and that is a mistake from him, that was

2:28:25 > 2:28:30a chance to really move away from the rest of the field. And he has

2:28:30 > 2:28:34just let them right back into it, and of course Uibo and Kazmirek can

2:28:34 > 2:28:40go higher. Are in They the fight for bronze. Still lots can happen from

2:28:40 > 2:28:44here.

2:28:50 > 2:28:53Slight disappointment for Mayer, but he is out in front.Slight

2:28:53 > 2:28:58disappointment for him, but more for Margaret Wambui, guess what, another

2:28:58 > 2:29:03disqualification, lane infringement. Along with Niyonsaba and Wilson, she

2:29:03 > 2:29:07would have been contending for a medal, budgies disqualified. Not

2:29:07 > 2:29:12good enough for Mhairi Hendry to go through, I think it was in the

2:29:12 > 2:29:20break. Well, there we are, as Michael said, outside foot on the

2:29:20 > 2:29:24inside line, so no excuse at all for Margaret Wambui, clear

2:29:24 > 2:29:28disqualification, so out she goes. Which means, I think, that Raevyn

2:29:28 > 2:29:34Rogers moves up in terms of fastest losers, so that is the line up for

2:29:34 > 2:29:41the final, Alemu sneaks in. Wilson will be very strong, but the two

2:29:41 > 2:29:50Americans as well, Habitam Alemu, no Margaret Wambui in tomorrow's final.

2:29:51 > 2:29:59The triple jump moves into the fourth round. World junior champion

2:29:59 > 2:30:09in 2012, from Spain and a big effort and she knows that is a good effort,

2:30:09 > 2:30:14as valid jump.

2:30:15 > 2:30:21as valid jump. Kimberly Williams still in the lead.

2:30:25 > 2:30:27still in the lead. Service from Peleteiro challenge. Good on the

2:30:27 > 2:30:36board. Waiting for her distance to come up, she knows that this could

2:30:36 > 2:30:43be in with a shout and it is. A lifetime best, 14 metres 40, goes

2:30:43 > 2:30:50into second place with two jumps remaining, Peleteiro.

2:30:52 > 2:30:54remaining, Peleteiro. So the Venezuelan has shipped -- has

2:30:54 > 2:30:59slipped.

2:31:01 > 2:31:08slipped. And 14 metres 20, 27, the best so far from Rojas. It sounded

2:31:08 > 2:31:15good. It is further into the pit. She is waking up. I think so, the

2:31:15 > 2:31:19field was so big and the first three rounds were difficult for the

2:31:19 > 2:31:23athletes waiting now we are in the business end of the competition. A

2:31:23 > 2:31:31much better jump there on the third. Good solid board. Normally she is so

2:31:31 > 2:31:38animated and has been quiet so far, Rojas. Season best in third place is

2:31:38 > 2:31:43not enough yet to challenge for the lead with two jumps remaining. So to

2:31:43 > 2:31:52conclude the fourth round here is the event leader, Kimberly Williams.

2:31:52 > 2:32:03I'm sure she can barely believe it. She is out in front.

2:32:03 > 2:32:12She is out in front. Not very skip the, but still a great effort.

2:32:13 > 2:32:15the, but still a great effort. Just overextended, the Sinn went out a

2:32:15 > 2:32:20bit far and difficult to get the hip over the top of the foot and

2:32:20 > 2:32:23maintain the speed input. But still great jump. She has put together a

2:32:23 > 2:32:30great series.Still out in front for Kimberly Williams.Turning out to be

2:32:30 > 2:32:35quite a good competition, the triple jump. Three out of the top four with

2:32:35 > 2:32:40a PB. Raising their game. And Peleteiro of Spain, that

2:32:40 > 2:32:45celebration, that would be my cardio work-out! Those two footed jumps,

2:32:45 > 2:32:50try that at home. That was impressive. It was, very happy about

2:32:50 > 2:32:56her performance. Took awhile to get into it but now starting to it. Good

2:32:56 > 2:33:01to see that celebration. It is amazing what the runway is

2:33:01 > 2:33:10delivering, a great young jump yesterday in the men's event.I

2:33:10 > 2:33:16think we have got it, actually. You tried doing both to let it jumps up

2:33:16 > 2:33:23to your chest! That is quite something.

2:33:25 > 2:33:29something. Quite a work-out right there. Something in the breakfast at

2:33:29 > 2:33:37the hotel. Let's speak quickly about Kevin Mayer, having a great day

2:33:37 > 2:33:41yesterday but now he is in a race with Warner. And that three seconds

2:33:41 > 2:33:47pretty much the difference between them. The difference between their

2:33:47 > 2:33:54PB and it is a shock. He was the out and out favourite but Damian Warner

2:33:54 > 2:33:59has raised his game, fair play to him. It just proves things happen. I

2:33:59 > 2:34:07cannot begin to tell you the quality of this pole-vault thing. 5.60 best

2:34:07 > 2:34:10and very recently as well. Coming out of five metres, it just shows

2:34:10 > 2:34:18you.He has done 5.20 in the past. But it is an event that he is

2:34:18 > 2:34:23relying on for the big points. Has he just been backing off and working

2:34:23 > 2:34:28on other events? No, this failure is a big shock and you see his

2:34:28 > 2:34:33reaction, just disbelief. I can tell you now his coach will be

2:34:33 > 2:34:39dumbfounded as to what happened. But I know he has been working on the

2:34:39 > 2:34:461500 metres and obviously indoor as it is 1000.

2:34:48 > 2:34:51it is 1000. Because he has not really been tested over that

2:34:51 > 2:34:56distance. And I think he knows he has to produce something better than

2:34:56 > 2:35:05he has done before to claim the gold medal. It is what we want in the

2:35:05 > 2:35:08final of a multi-event, the two athletes at the top racing each

2:35:08 > 2:35:16other.Damian Warner has just stuck in their even though he has seen

2:35:16 > 2:35:21Mayer just moving away and now he has the opportunity. I'm a bit

2:35:21 > 2:35:26surprised with Mayer, he has been so consistent and just a real warrior

2:35:26 > 2:35:32through the competition.A little bit sloppy, maybe it is that

2:35:32 > 2:35:35overconfidence that you can get and you want to have a bit of it going

2:35:35 > 2:35:41into the event that has mostly nailed on.But it happens. But it is

2:35:41 > 2:35:45that balance, confidence but also continuing to stay motivated and not

2:35:45 > 2:35:49celebrating too soon and get overconfident and get ahead of

2:35:49 > 2:35:53yourself.You have to stay in the moment. Let's have a chat with Paula

2:35:53 > 2:36:00Radcliffe. About the 800 metres. And Oskan-Clarke, looking at that

2:36:00 > 2:36:04line-up now you feel she has a good chance of pushing through to the

2:36:04 > 2:36:16medals. She has a good chance. Her main threat I think coming from

2:36:16 > 2:36:21Wilson. She races so well in qualification and that sets her up

2:36:21 > 2:36:25to get the best out of herself. So hopefully she can do that. Certainly

2:36:25 > 2:36:33looking strong. At 300 she looks a little bit

2:36:33 > 2:36:37pained, the expression on her face. Not looking as comfortable as she

2:36:37 > 2:36:40ended up running about in the interview afterwards she explained a

2:36:40 > 2:36:47bit of that, you do not expect to be anything but comfortable in the

2:36:47 > 2:36:53heats but in the end it served well and she never panicked. She just

2:36:53 > 2:36:57waited around the bend, I do not know if it was intentional in the

2:36:57 > 2:37:04home straight but it was a clever move to close off Buchel in the way

2:37:04 > 2:37:08she did. She just grows with each race and that is what you need going

2:37:08 > 2:37:14into the final.Of course that final is tomorrow and just one session

2:37:14 > 2:37:19tomorrow, the final session of the World Championships on-air at 2:45pm

2:37:19 > 2:37:25on BBC Two. We also have Mo Farah, the half marathon, coverage of that

2:37:25 > 2:37:36race as well. Let's get back out to the triple jump.

2:37:36 > 2:37:40the triple jump. It is Rojas of Venezuela who seems to be slowly

2:37:40 > 2:37:44waking up.

2:37:49 > 2:37:56waking up. Trailing Williams and Peleteiro Spain. That is better.

2:37:57 > 2:38:06Knowing that that is a big effort. Much better, short, hot phase from

2:38:06 > 2:38:13Rojas. Really reaching out and sets her up. All that extra distance came

2:38:13 > 2:38:18out of the hot phase.

2:38:19 > 2:38:22out of the hot phase. It is good on the board and this is going to be

2:38:22 > 2:38:27close with one jump remaining. It takes the lead, a world leading

2:38:27 > 2:38:38jump. 14.6 three. On the other side of the track, Uibo.

2:38:38 > 2:38:41of the track, Uibo. In the pole-vault. He has already got an

2:38:41 > 2:38:47indoor PB. This two matches outdoor lifetime best. Five metres 30. Could

2:38:47 > 2:38:53give him a better chance of a bronze medal overall. He has got it!

2:38:53 > 2:39:03Brilliant job. And he loves it.That is how much it means to him. He has

2:39:03 > 2:39:08wintered well.

2:39:09 > 2:39:14wintered well. Get it out, that looks good. Great clearance. There

2:39:14 > 2:39:20could be room for a little bit more. Now he can change to a stiffer poll

2:39:20 > 2:39:24which could take higher as long as he can put the energy into it.That

2:39:24 > 2:39:31is really confident. And Kazmirek in the bronze medal position, can he

2:39:31 > 2:39:43match that? No.The significance of that, now 13 points separating Uibo

2:39:43 > 2:39:52and Kazmirek. And ten points a second. Both these gentlemen round

2:39:52 > 2:39:58about two minutes 44 the thousand metres. So we have a total race for

2:39:58 > 2:40:01the bronze position. It will be first man across the line I think,

2:40:01 > 2:40:09quite frankly. A bit of a gap, Kazmirek, if he can hold off Uibo by

2:40:09 > 2:40:17a second.Looks like a battle for bronze and gold between one and

2:40:17 > 2:40:28Mayer as we predicted earlier. So the field reduced to four athletes.

2:40:29 > 2:40:40Best in the previous round

2:40:42 > 2:40:50so far, Panturoui. Not able to get in the medal positions.

2:40:50 > 2:40:53in the medal positions.I think but all of the eight should go through.

2:40:53 > 2:40:57The other thing is especially something like triple jump, you do

2:40:57 > 2:41:07not get the rest time. And it is tough. Looking at

2:41:07 > 2:41:11tough. Looking at the card, this athlete, Peleteiro, she has improved

2:41:11 > 2:41:20one litre 20 through the competition. -- one metre. That is

2:41:20 > 2:41:26the widest I've ever seen in terms of improvement. So she has a medal,

2:41:26 > 2:41:30she is safe in bronze position but can she get silver?Fair to say she

2:41:30 > 2:41:40is up for this, Peleteiro of Spain. Guaranteed a bronze. Can she extend

2:41:40 > 2:41:46that to silver and possibly even the goal. No, pushed too hard. She knew

2:41:46 > 2:41:52as soon as she put down her foot. And you saw that emotion. I have

2:41:52 > 2:41:58missed my opportunity. 14.40, bronze medal for her, fantastic

2:41:58 > 2:42:06competition.22 years of age and a bronze medal and is a global

2:42:06 > 2:42:11championships. World junior champion in 2012, Peleteiro. Really good

2:42:11 > 2:42:20performance. Great stuff. I lifetime best. And there is the event leader,

2:42:20 > 2:42:29Rojas. Just to remaining. They know their medals cannot be challenged

2:42:29 > 2:42:36other than with each other. They can swap places. It is Rojas out in

2:42:36 > 2:42:41front in the gold medal position at the moment. She will go first. Then

2:42:41 > 2:42:46Kimberly Williams in silver medal position. They do not change the

2:42:46 > 2:42:51order in this last round. The penultimate jumper is the leader of

2:42:51 > 2:42:57the competition. But whatever she does here, Williams of Jamaica will

2:42:57 > 2:43:05have a chance to respond. So Rojas looking to put this out of reach of

2:43:05 > 2:43:11the Jamaican. Fast on the approach. Laboured through those phases.I

2:43:11 > 2:43:17think she was over the board, red flag. That gives the last through of

2:43:17 > 2:43:27the dice to Kimberly Williams. A great position to be in. Throw of

2:43:27 > 2:43:33the days may be. No luck involved in this. -- throw of the dice. Kimberly

2:43:33 > 2:43:38Williams, how much do you want it? At the moment it would be a

2:43:38 > 2:43:45successful defence of her indoor title. For Rojas. Unless Kimberly

2:43:45 > 2:43:55Williams who has already taken to the runway and leaked out beyond the

2:43:55 > 2:44:0014 metres achieved in the previous round. This is the last jump of the

2:44:00 > 2:44:05competition. She knows that she's silver.

2:44:06 > 2:44:11silver. -- she is guaranteed silver. I last tried to convert it to gold.

2:44:11 > 2:44:17Stride out, running hard and fast. Good on the board. Is it long

2:44:17 > 2:44:30enough? I do not think so.I think she knows it.The white flag. Good

2:44:30 > 2:44:37effort, but not challenging that lead, 14.6 three. Looks to be a fair

2:44:37 > 2:44:47bit down. 14.3 two. Has to settle for silver. Rojas the first to

2:44:47 > 2:44:52congratulate her and celebrate another victory. So successful

2:44:52 > 2:44:59defence there by Rojas of Venezuela ahead of Kimberly Williams. A very

2:44:59 > 2:45:05entertaining triple jump final. PB for silver and bronze and Panturoui

2:45:05 > 2:45:15in third place.The start of the men's 4x400. Ukraine meant to go

2:45:15 > 2:45:20here.

2:45:33 > 2:45:37This is the worlds leading through are coming into the competition. He

2:45:37 > 2:45:41is fancied to take the gold medal but Tom Walsh and least a monster in

2:45:41 > 2:45:47the first round. It is over 21 metres. It will not threaten that

2:45:47 > 2:45:59massive puts of the New Zealand athlete. The Czech Republic athlete

2:45:59 > 2:46:03opened with 20.88 metres. He just stopped on that. He did not transfer

2:46:03 > 2:46:09the momentum as efficiently as we have seen in the past. -- 20 .28

2:46:09 > 2:46:15metres. One metre down on what he's capable of.

2:46:15 > 2:46:19Renny Quow leads what looks like a very strong Trinidad and Tobago

2:46:19 > 2:46:26Quartet. These were world champions last year. Renny Quow did not run in

2:46:26 > 2:46:35the final. Let's look at Belgium. Jonathan Borlee and his selection in

2:46:35 > 2:46:41Ghent last month with a personal best. Belgium are very experienced.

2:46:41 > 2:46:50This is a quartet to look out -- to look out for.

2:46:52 > 2:47:00look out for. Krzewina ran well in the individual 400 metres. The Czech

2:47:00 > 2:47:07Republic, and then Trinidad and Tobago. Jereem Richards comes in. A

2:47:07 > 2:47:12bronze-medallist in London last year.

2:47:15 > 2:47:19year. Deon Lendore is rested for tonight. If Trinidad and Tobago are

2:47:19 > 2:47:24near the potential, they will be strong enough to go through. Two go

2:47:24 > 2:47:32through automatically. Without Ukraine going, it makes it a little

2:47:32 > 2:47:38bit easier. We are keeping an eye out for lane infringements. The

2:47:38 > 2:47:44other athletes are waiting. Trinidad and Tobago with Renny Quow, the

2:47:44 > 2:47:50former Olympic and world final over 400 metres.

2:48:02 > 2:48:07Renny Quow explodes out of the blocks, as smaller figure than the

2:48:07 > 2:48:15Czech Republic athlete outside them. Also going strongly for

2:48:18 > 2:48:20Also going strongly for Poland is Karol Zalewski. Interesting to see

2:48:20 > 2:48:23how Belgium will go with all that experience. Dylan Borlee has done a

2:48:23 > 2:48:28bit of racing so far this season. Trinidad and Tobago are back in

2:48:28 > 2:48:37fourth place at the moment.Yes, he has got it really hard, Zalewski.

2:48:37 > 2:48:42They have not even put in one of their better runners, Omelko, they

2:48:42 > 2:48:47are saving him assuming they get through. I think Patryk Adamczyk

2:48:47 > 2:48:57would make way in the final if they qualify. Jonathan Borlee has the

2:48:57 > 2:48:59baton for Belgium. Trinidad have some work to do to get back into

2:48:59 > 2:49:06this.Richards for Trinidad and Tobago now making a move. He is only

2:49:06 > 2:49:14here to raise the relay. He eases his way past the Belgium athlete.

2:49:14 > 2:49:19Richards, can he hang on over the last 200 metres? Years beginning to

2:49:19 > 2:49:25fade. Borlee looking strong for Belgium. Poland and a good position.

2:49:25 > 2:49:28Richards tries to hang in. These three beginning to separate

2:49:28 > 2:49:35themselves but the Czech Republic coming back. Poland bring a trained

2:49:35 > 2:49:42in the lead with Trinidad and Tobago needing to do some work.A bit of a

2:49:42 > 2:49:47gap appealing. You would think that Trinidad would pull the spiked with

2:49:47 > 2:49:53Cedenio at his best. There are just hoping that on the second lap he can

2:49:53 > 2:49:59close the gap. Cedenio is not really doing anything. Knowledge and

2:49:59 > 2:50:06Belgium are in the lead. -- Poland and Belgium. Kevin Borlee will take

2:50:06 > 2:50:18the bat in for Belgium. -- the baton for Belgium. Poland are going to

2:50:18 > 2:50:26hand over the Krzewina.Poland and Belgium, side by side. Krzewina will

2:50:26 > 2:50:34bring them home in a comfortable position. It is two to go through.

2:50:34 > 2:50:39See how far are clearly out of garden. This much vaunted Trinidad

2:50:39 > 2:50:44and Tobago Quartet are out of form and out of favour. Gordon has a long

2:50:44 > 2:50:51way to go. Can he bring them back from the depths? Holland and Belgium

2:50:51 > 2:50:56a long way clear. Trinidad in the Czech are closing. All the work to

2:50:56 > 2:51:01do for Gordon to get into the top two qualifiers. Gordon is closing.

2:51:01 > 2:51:08The track will run out. Krzewina is strong in the closing stages. Kevin

2:51:08 > 2:51:15Borlee brings Belgium home. Krzewina gets the second automatic qualifying

2:51:15 > 2:51:19place for Poland. So, Trinidad, the world champions, do not go through

2:51:19 > 2:51:25to the final of the World Indoors. They are not in that sort of form.

2:51:25 > 2:51:28Poland and Belgium bring us home. Poland in second place, they will go

2:51:28 > 2:51:34through to the final tomorrow. Belgium in pretty good shape.

2:51:34 > 2:51:37Trinidad and Tobago, I think they will have known they were not in

2:51:37 > 2:51:42that end of shape. Gordon, despite his best efforts, could not get back

2:51:42 > 2:51:48into it.I do think Poland can get stronger. I think Omelko will make

2:51:48 > 2:51:52them 0.5 seconds quicker. When you add up the four best times it does

2:51:52 > 2:52:00not always give you the best team. These two a well drilled. The

2:52:00 > 2:52:03Borlees, they will not make any changes in the final. They have put

2:52:03 > 2:52:07out their number one team. Krzewina was dangerous by the lead man might

2:52:07 > 2:52:12get in front on the last leg. It will be tough for the Great Britain

2:52:12 > 2:52:17Quartet coming up next.Worth mentioning that the Czech Republic,

2:52:17 > 2:52:22without Pavel Maslak, who was rested for the final, they were not evil --

2:52:22 > 2:52:28they were not even to feature in that.

2:52:29 > 2:52:34that. Trinidad and Tobago waiting to see with one more heat to come.

2:52:34 > 2:52:39Poland and Belgium safely through. This is a twice European, twice

2:52:39 > 2:52:45world champion. His crown has slipped slightly over the last few

2:52:45 > 2:52:51years. He has been swallowed up by a very strong world standard. That is

2:52:51 > 2:52:59over 21 metres, though. He opened up with 21.14 metres. The Germanys 27

2:52:59 > 2:53:06years of age now. He had it all his own way for a few years, but he is

2:53:06 > 2:53:19in the chasing pack nowadays. 21.15, in third place.

2:53:19 > 2:53:30Back to the heptathlon. This man has been the best of the vaulters in the

2:53:30 > 2:53:36penultimate event. 5.40 metres. His last try. He ran out of steam a

2:53:36 > 2:53:44little bit, but the brilliant demonstration. 5.30 metres clearance

2:53:44 > 2:53:50at the previous night. He has given himself a chance of a short head the

2:53:50 > 2:53:58bronze medal. Really competent pole vaulting from the Estonian. There is

2:53:58 > 2:54:07no javelin today. It would be in the decathlon, the javelin and the 1,500

2:54:07 > 2:54:11metres. Indoor, it is the heptathlon. Just the 1000 metres

2:54:11 > 2:54:17left. Take a look at the numbers across those names.

2:54:23 > 2:54:27We just saw the Estonian athlete in the fight for the bronze medal. Just

2:54:27 > 2:54:37the 1000 metres remaining.Next up on the track, it is the second of

2:54:37 > 2:54:43the 4 x 400 metres. It features Great Britain. Not all those guys

2:54:43 > 2:54:46are familiar to the athletics watching public. They are not the

2:54:46 > 2:54:52galleys we would've seen at the World Championships.It might be a

2:54:52 > 2:54:59bit of an asked to qualify. They are not familiar to me, honestly. It

2:54:59 > 2:55:03could be tough. It should be easy qualification for them. The United

2:55:03 > 2:55:09States is in there. Of course, this does not look like a very

2:55:09 > 2:55:14experienced group. Experience counts for a lot indoors. That will be

2:55:14 > 2:55:18concerning. I am not sure how the assembled a team who they are

2:55:18 > 2:55:25planning to bring in in the finals. It might be a little risky. We saw

2:55:25 > 2:55:29Lee Thompson qualify yesterday for the final of the 400 metres. We sign

2:55:29 > 2:55:33last night at the hotel. I was thinking, I wonder if he will be

2:55:33 > 2:55:38part of that tomorrow. Obviously not, maybe if they get to the final.

2:55:38 > 2:55:42He obviously has the experience, he has the experience on this very

2:55:42 > 2:55:48track yesterday. That is a little risky. Dominican Republic could be

2:55:48 > 2:55:57topped. They have a tradition of 400 metres. The Santos brothers, one is

2:55:57 > 2:56:01in the race tonight, probably resting for the final. This could be

2:56:01 > 2:56:06an interesting race.It could be tricky. It is important we give some

2:56:06 > 2:56:09of youngsters the opportunity to raise their game and step up and

2:56:09 > 2:56:14work out what the global stage like. It presents an opportunity for them.

2:56:14 > 2:56:17The experience might not be there but this is what the pathway is all

2:56:17 > 2:56:22about, learning.

2:56:27 > 2:56:29about, learning. Rodger is an accomplished 400-metre hurdler. He

2:56:29 > 2:56:34will have given the pep talk.We have seen lots of disqualifications

2:56:34 > 2:56:40in the 400 metres. Let's hope this is quite straight forward is for the

2:56:40 > 2:56:47British Cram.I think if the British team are to qualify it will be a

2:56:47 > 2:56:50case of some gadget will be a case of the some of the parts being

2:56:50 > 2:56:57greater than the hall. The Spanish team are much quicker on paper. The

2:56:57 > 2:57:02American team are quicker. We are fortunate that Jamaica have not

2:57:02 > 2:57:10decided to contest a team. The Dominican Republic, Luguelin Santos,

2:57:10 > 2:57:15he is not there, but the younger brother, Juander Santos is there.

2:57:15 > 2:57:20We're told that Lee Thompson is OK but UK athletics wanted to arrest

2:57:20 > 2:57:25him. He had two tough races yesterday. I imagine he would come

2:57:25 > 2:57:31in if they make the final. They're a fastest loser spots if we are not in

2:57:31 > 2:57:38top two. We can see Owen Smith receiving the plaudits of the crowd.

2:57:38 > 2:57:44We're looking at the time of Trinidad and Tobago. 3.56, something

2:57:44 > 2:57:50like that. This will be tough for this young team. Sebastian Rodger is

2:57:50 > 2:57:57experience, but we have Owen Smith. Rodger will go in the second leg.

2:57:57 > 2:58:09After that, Smith and Plenderleith. I think the Spanish team will be a

2:58:09 > 2:58:14danger. Lucas Bua made the semifinal. You have Guijarro and

2:58:14 > 2:58:20Samuel Garcia as well. They have three men who have run under 47

2:58:20 > 2:58:23seconds this year. None of our men have. Just to give you an indication

2:58:23 > 2:58:28of what is up again -- what is against them. Maybe the crowd can

2:58:28 > 2:58:30help and see they can raise their game.

2:58:39 > 2:58:43Spain have Husillos running in the final two so he is not in this team

2:58:43 > 2:58:49either. They can get stronger. It is the USA, with Fred Kerley, who made

2:58:49 > 2:58:54a mess of the US trials for the individual event. The USA are

2:58:54 > 2:58:59leading through the stagger. Owen Smith will try and slot in behind.

2:58:59 > 2:59:05He is coached by a great runner in the relays. Smith gave a little

2:59:05 > 2:59:11elbow to Santos. We've seen lots of disqualifications. You have to be

2:59:11 > 2:59:17careful.Sorry, the USA are leading. Yes, company on my cable to look

2:59:17 > 2:59:28around. Much more powerful athlete those behind. Smith hands on.

2:59:29 > 2:59:34those behind. Smith hands on. --, yes, Norwood is able to look around.

2:59:34 > 2:59:40It is a fierce battle developing. But I'm Great Britain and Northern

2:59:40 > 2:59:48Ireland, Sebastian Rodger is holding often had. Washington keeps the USA

2:59:48 > 2:59:56clear. The gap is closing. The great news is that Lucas Bua of Spain had

2:59:56 > 3:00:01a terrible first leg. They looked to be out of it. Great Britain may be

3:00:01 > 3:00:05able to cruise through. For some reason the Dominican Republic

3:00:05 > 3:00:07galleys treading water. Spain have been let down by their most

3:00:07 > 3:00:14experienced runner. He had a shocker. He ran two rounds of the

3:00:14 > 3:00:24400 metres. Maybe he was too tired. Hopefully Rhoden-Stevens will bring

3:00:24 > 3:00:28us home in seconds bait -- second place. That was an extraordinary

3:00:28 > 3:00:34first leg by Lucas Bua, not by the rate -- not for the right reasons.

3:00:34 > 3:00:41You can see the big gap back to the Spanish athlete. It is Porras. He is

3:00:41 > 3:00:51fading. Rhoden-Stevens is some way clear of Spain.

3:00:52 > 3:00:59Just straightforward business here, just no mistakes. The same club as

3:00:59 > 3:01:08Lee Thompson. No problem for him. Plenderleith. Just needing to cruise

3:01:08 > 3:01:13around. Spain will be thinking what on earth went wrong on the first

3:01:13 > 3:01:18leg. If you do not get into the race in the first leg it is pretty much

3:01:18 > 3:01:24gone up so the USA cruising here. Norwood. Interesting to see what

3:01:24 > 3:01:29kind of time we run compared to the first heat. We will have Louis

3:01:29 > 3:01:34Thompson you would imagine to bring in for the final. Norwood just

3:01:34 > 3:01:37cruising through. Great Britain are going to be second. A bit of a

3:01:37 > 3:01:47canter in the end. So pretty good, solid performance from them.

3:01:47 > 3:01:53Obviously they have others to bring in by the final. Do not think

3:01:53 > 3:01:59Belgium would get much better but certainly Poland could.USA and

3:01:59 > 3:02:02Belgium, Poland and maybe Trinidad and Tobago if they could find some

3:02:02 > 3:02:07form, they will go through as one of the fastest losers. But it will be

3:02:07 > 3:02:13an outside chance for Great Britain and Northern Ireland. But a good run

3:02:13 > 3:02:18from this quartet. This inexperienced quartet at this level

3:02:18 > 3:02:21but they did a good job going through to the final and lots of

3:02:21 > 3:02:25things can happen so they do have a chance.Well they raised their game

3:02:25 > 3:02:31in terms of what they do individually this year. Owen Smith,

3:02:31 > 3:02:38an excellent lead. Said Roger, we know his capability in the relay.

3:02:38 > 3:02:45This was Owen Smith, just use his elbows against some tough. Dominican

3:02:45 > 3:02:51Republic did not have enough strength and depth anyway but it was

3:02:51 > 3:02:57really Bua who just did not get going.Keeping an eye on Bua here

3:02:57 > 3:03:01and looking for any particular incident but I think it is just

3:03:01 > 3:03:06fatigue. Already after 200 metres quite a long way back. Continue to

3:03:06 > 3:03:10fade from there. His team perhaps knew he was not going to be at his

3:03:10 > 3:03:17best. But impossible from then on for Spain. And the United States

3:03:17 > 3:03:20taking a big lead which they never relinquished. But sometimes it

3:03:20 > 3:03:27happens in the relay. Individually perhaps not at this level. Rogers

3:03:27 > 3:03:30experience but collectively they stepped up as a team and ran very

3:03:30 > 3:03:42well indeed.Owen Smith coming out of the blocks, very good pace.

3:03:43 > 3:03:50Rhoden-Stevens, 46.3. Excellent stuff and we are through.

3:03:50 > 3:03:58Wonderful performance, boys. Owen at the breakdown you made sure you got

3:03:58 > 3:04:03yourself into that in prime position.Yes I tried to set the

3:04:03 > 3:04:07boys up as best as possible. I did not want to have to fight but to

3:04:07 > 3:04:12have my own space. I think I set the boys up well and they finished off

3:04:12 > 3:04:17the job.You started to get the tussle against the Dominican. That

3:04:17 > 3:04:26made a big difference to win that battle.I hope so, yes.

3:04:26 > 3:04:28battle.I hope so, yes. Oh and put us in a great position and I just

3:04:28 > 3:04:38had to do my job, very happy.Jamal, what does it mean knowing Britain

3:04:38 > 3:04:44can perform at that level and how much confidence does it give you?

3:04:44 > 3:04:50Looking back in the 1990s we were competitive in the four by four.

3:04:50 > 3:04:53Remember Chris Akabusi and those guys, so we always had that

3:04:53 > 3:04:57tradition. But now the new people are coming through, less familiar

3:04:57 > 3:05:04faces but it does matter. We are competitive in the world stage and

3:05:04 > 3:05:09any team we can put up, we could do well.Grant, you came in with a

3:05:09 > 3:05:13pretty firm lead on the qualifying position but anything can happen in

3:05:13 > 3:05:18the relay and especially indoors. The boys set it up well. The hard

3:05:18 > 3:05:24work is always done in the first three. Someone else was running by

3:05:24 > 3:05:31me so I had to keep the momentum going. I kept the pace slowing and

3:05:31 > 3:05:36look forward to the finals tomorrow. Well thank you very much for talking

3:05:36 > 3:05:44to me and best of luck tomorrow. I have to say hats off, guys. An

3:05:44 > 3:05:48absolutely stunning performance from four men who are not that well known

3:05:48 > 3:05:53to most.

3:05:54 > 3:05:56to most. That time is the fourth fastest ever by a British quartet

3:05:56 > 3:06:02indoors. There you go. That will give them some confidence for the

3:06:02 > 3:06:06final. And that is how they line up. Poland I think have others to bring

3:06:06 > 3:06:16in. Trinidad and Tobago made it through. United States could even

3:06:16 > 3:06:22strengthen as well so it is all to play for.

3:06:22 > 3:06:32Here is a man who produced an absolute monster in the first round.

3:06:32 > 3:06:37Set the record for the eighth longest throw ever. Another big

3:06:37 > 3:06:47effort and another huge distance. Tom Walsh has come here and he means

3:06:47 > 3:06:53business.He is happy with that. Really get behind it. Really drives

3:06:53 > 3:07:04it out. And that celebration. That stretch reflex, the rubber band, if

3:07:04 > 3:07:13you like and then he can fire it out with his arm. 22 .13, exactly the

3:07:13 > 3:07:23same distance. Not a lot the rest of the world can do about this. Romani

3:07:23 > 3:07:27in the chasing pack, leaving it at the moment. Currently in second

3:07:27 > 3:07:33place, the Brazilian. You see the difference between them. Not as

3:07:33 > 3:07:39smooth across the circle, not as much speed as Walsh. That is the

3:07:39 > 3:07:43difference, the amount of speed that you can generate. No improvement for

3:07:43 > 3:07:54Romani. Well the studio getting over the

3:07:54 > 3:07:58shock of Rhoden-Stevens going back to the good old days of the 1990s,

3:07:58 > 3:08:01when this lot were in their heyday! He made it sound like

3:08:01 > 3:08:08black-and-white TV!Old athletics, that quote!We need to have a word

3:08:08 > 3:08:16with him!I kind of like it. It puts us in our place! That quartet though

3:08:16 > 3:08:22should be very proud of themselves. They were kind of untested in this

3:08:22 > 3:08:28arena, most of them. But they did a very good job. They did. It will get

3:08:28 > 3:08:32a bit tougher in the final but they did a good job to get through to the

3:08:32 > 3:08:38final. They should enjoy it. Just enjoy it and have a good time with

3:08:38 > 3:08:43it. That gives them the opportunity for some young up-and-coming

3:08:43 > 3:08:47athletes on the global stage to do something and be competitive. So

3:08:47 > 3:08:53great job.Looking ahead to the women, that is coming up in about 25

3:08:53 > 3:08:58minutes. Great Britain have a few more familiar names in their

3:08:58 > 3:09:05quartet. But the American quartet currently has Rogers in there, who

3:09:05 > 3:09:12ran in the 800 metres less than an hour ago.And made the final. I will

3:09:12 > 3:09:15be interested, when I saw her name I thought I would be interested to see

3:09:15 > 3:09:19if she shows up in the final of that. They already put her in there,

3:09:19 > 3:09:28they cannot change now. I'm not sure about that. I would think that

3:09:30 > 3:09:38probably is a typo order. I do not think you could run that and be

3:09:38 > 3:09:44ready for the final tomorrow.Well before we look ahead to this lets go

3:09:44 > 3:09:50back down memory lane. Not quite too old athletics but 2012 in Istanbul.

3:09:50 > 3:09:57Great Britain came out on top against the USA.Down the far side,

3:09:57 > 3:10:07moving into second place. And Britain handed over in the gold

3:10:07 > 3:10:10medal position. What a performance from the Olympic champion Christine

3:10:10 > 3:10:18Ohuruogu. Hanging the final leg.

3:10:19 > 3:10:21Ohuruogu. Hanging the final leg.A stunning run from Christine

3:10:21 > 3:10:28Ohuruogu. She dug deep and found an awful lot in the latter stages. Now

3:10:28 > 3:10:35battling out in front. The reigning world indoor champion from America

3:10:35 > 3:10:43just biding her time.Still looking strong in the lead. Improving her

3:10:43 > 3:10:50advantage by two metres. Ukraine in second place. Richards Ross in

3:10:50 > 3:10:58second place. It is between Britain and the USA. She looks up the

3:10:58 > 3:11:11stream, punching for the line. Holding on for Britain, it is gold

3:11:11 > 3:11:17for Britain in the women's 4x400 metres relay.

3:11:17 > 3:11:23Is this a quartet that could challenge the USA?Who can tell. The

3:11:23 > 3:11:26thing is you need to be in the right place at the right time and be able

3:11:26 > 3:11:32to strike and get the bat on and read the race. That quartet that we

3:11:32 > 3:11:38relived so beautifully, took I think the advantage of Richard Ross

3:11:38 > 3:11:42running from the USA on the last leg, of not being in the right place

3:11:42 > 3:11:46at the right time and leaving herself too much to do in the final

3:11:46 > 3:11:50stages. So it is an experienced team. Compared to the one we have

3:11:50 > 3:11:55now but the US team tend to be strong. They tend to be able to use

3:11:55 > 3:11:58to deliver when it counts.I think it will depend on who comes out

3:11:58 > 3:12:10here. This team in the USA is very strong. If they have Rogers on the

3:12:10 > 3:12:14end as listed here she will be very vulnerable. They should make it

3:12:14 > 3:12:25through to the finals. But as we saw, Richard Ross, that was the

3:12:25 > 3:12:29Olympic champion on the anchor. And if you make mistakes indoors it is

3:12:29 > 3:12:34very costly. You nervous about this US team? Not about getting through

3:12:34 > 3:12:40to the final, no.

3:12:41 > 3:12:45to the final, no.Steve Backley, the shot put please. We are in the

3:12:45 > 3:12:57fourth round, and it is the big German, Storl. 21.1 five. That is

3:12:57 > 3:13:05better. Only the top four athletes get to throw in the sixth round.

3:13:05 > 3:13:11Traditional collide. Did well to save that. Cannot encroach beyond

3:13:11 > 3:13:16the board at the front of the circle. He likes it. 21.15 his best

3:13:16 > 3:13:25so far. What a time to produce his season 's best.Goes into second

3:13:25 > 3:13:29place behind walls. Coming up perceiving the women's semifinals of

3:13:29 > 3:13:34the hurdles and the men's heats, featuring Andy Pozzi, the European

3:13:34 > 3:13:42indoor champion last year.We caught up with him earlier. Big news this

3:13:42 > 3:13:46week is your co-captain position. How does it feel? It is a great

3:13:46 > 3:13:50honour especially because it was selected by the other athletes. I'm

3:13:50 > 3:13:56hugely honoured to do it. It seems very fitting and great for me being

3:13:56 > 3:14:01in Birmingham. I have raced at the stadium for the past well over a

3:14:01 > 3:14:07decade now. So nice to be returning here. And it will be great but the

3:14:07 > 3:14:13team feel I can offer something as co-captain.You are a local lad, you

3:14:13 > 3:14:19grew up watching athletics in this arena? Will it be a pleasure to come

3:14:19 > 3:14:23back and live out a childhood dream? I can think of anywhere I would

3:14:23 > 3:14:29rather race than in Birmingham indoors. I got into athletics I

3:14:29 > 3:14:34think the first meeting I ever went to go and watch was at this arena.

3:14:34 > 3:14:42The trials for the 2002 world indoor champions here. So strange that it

3:14:42 > 3:14:46has come full circle and I am here competing and hopefully pushing for

3:14:46 > 3:14:51a medal. It means a lot more knowing I have sat on the other side of the

3:14:51 > 3:14:55fence here and watched as a spectator. It kind of changed my

3:14:55 > 3:15:03life in many ways. Leading me to the path I'm on now to become an

3:15:03 > 3:15:07athlete.It felt like last year was the year Andy posse finally got

3:15:07 > 3:15:11things together in terms of having a good run competitions. He has been

3:15:11 > 3:15:17troubled with injury the past through the seasons. What you feel

3:15:17 > 3:15:23he got out of the season as a whole?

3:15:23 > 3:15:28The most important thing was to take that European indoor title. He has

3:15:28 > 3:15:33been favoured on numerous occasions and has missed out. That filled him

3:15:33 > 3:15:36with confidence. When he went on to the circuit, people started to

3:15:36 > 3:15:41recognise who he was and what his name meant. He was a champion. It

3:15:41 > 3:15:46gave him confidence. Outdoors, at the back end of the race, he was

3:15:46 > 3:15:51always challenged because I felt he was excited that he was up with the

3:15:51 > 3:15:55big guys. You need to have that excitement, but also that sense of

3:15:55 > 3:15:59control. Now he has registered in his brain, I am one of the big

3:15:59 > 3:16:03players, so I need to perform and keep Cam all the way through the

3:16:03 > 3:16:08race. That is most important. Today, we will have to see how he goes in

3:16:08 > 3:16:13the first round, but he has to realise he is also one of the best

3:16:13 > 3:16:1860-metre hurdler is in the world. It is fair to say he was disappointed

3:16:18 > 3:16:21by his performance in the World Championships. He did not

3:16:21 > 3:16:25transferred those skills, that speed, into the outdoor season. I

3:16:25 > 3:16:30think he needs to up. Step He knows that. He feels that pressure for

3:16:30 > 3:16:36himself. Now he is injury free, he has said he needs to utilise this

3:16:36 > 3:16:43rich vein of form he is in.It needs to happen today. He is a talent. He

3:16:43 > 3:16:48is, and he is in an event that is pretty open at this point, even

3:16:48 > 3:16:53outdoors, no one is dominating that event. Aries Merritt, all over the

3:16:53 > 3:16:57years, with health issues, he has been in and out, and he is always a

3:16:57 > 3:17:02force, Omar McLeod as well, he came on last year, but there is no one

3:17:02 > 3:17:08who is really dominating that event. It is always open and he has the

3:17:08 > 3:17:13ability to be an outdoor World Championships -- he has the ability

3:17:13 > 3:17:16at an outdoor World Championships and Olympic Games to get into the

3:17:16 > 3:17:24final. He has an opportunity to get on the podium, here, and give

3:17:24 > 3:17:29himself more confidence.When you're in the final, anything can happen.

3:17:29 > 3:17:34It is so unpredictable. I always say that. The jeopardy is the barriers.

3:17:34 > 3:17:37Even if you are the best in the world, you can make fractional

3:17:37 > 3:17:43mistakes which can cost you. It is such Genevan field, both in the

3:17:43 > 3:17:48women's and men's hurdles. You need to be an song every single times.

3:17:48 > 3:17:52Lots of Herdling coming up in the evening session. We are starting at

3:17:52 > 3:17:58half past five on BBC Two. We will have a new world champion in the

3:17:58 > 3:18:00pentathlon, Katarina Johnson-Thompson, joining as for the

3:18:00 > 3:18:06first half hour of that before her medal ceremony. Let's see the shot

3:18:06 > 3:18:14put competition. It is reaching the end.Thank you.

3:18:15 > 3:18:19end.Thank you. It is a Brazilian, before the final cut off. He is in

3:18:19 > 3:18:21fourth place. He is guaranteed

3:18:21 > 3:18:21before the final cut off. He is in fourth place. He is guaranteed on

3:18:21 > 3:18:30war effort. Only the top four get that. His best so far, 21.23 metres.

3:18:30 > 3:18:34What is that? Ban on the 21-metre line, so it looks like there is no

3:18:34 > 3:18:39improvement for him. He dropped his right foot, rotates well, strikes

3:18:39 > 3:18:46hard. It is pretty solid. He does not have the same floor as Tom

3:18:46 > 3:18:53Walsh, the event leader. 21.37 metres. It did not look like that. I

3:18:53 > 3:19:03knew continental record. So, the final round. Four athletes. The

3:19:03 > 3:19:13fifth round. There is one more athlete to conclude that. Tom Walsh.

3:19:15 > 3:19:19That was to conclude the fifth round, my apologies. Then he is out

3:19:19 > 3:19:27in front. He is the leader, he could not save that. He did not need to.

3:19:27 > 3:19:35Two throws on 22.13 metres. Then lots of fouls. It has been unwell

3:19:35 > 3:19:39since we have had an athlete over 22 metres in the world, but this year,

3:19:39 > 3:19:47are three. Two of them are in the top four. Tom Walsh of New Zealand

3:19:47 > 3:19:53is one of them. The athlete from the Czech Republic is the other. Tom

3:19:53 > 3:20:02Walsh, bumping chests. I think that was accidental. After five rounds,

3:20:02 > 3:20:09one put remaining. Only the top four get to go in the next round. A

3:20:09 > 3:20:13massive continental record, the eighth best ever. Identical

3:20:13 > 3:20:20distances for silver and the bronze medal.

3:20:20 > 3:20:33medal. With one put remaining, Stan Eck will go first. -- Stanek. The

3:20:33 > 3:20:42athlete from the Czech Republic. It drops shy of 21 metres. Not enough.

3:20:42 > 3:20:47He remains in the bronze medal position. 21.44 metres being his

3:20:47 > 3:21:00best though. His back-up throw of 21.12 metres puts him in third.

3:21:00 > 3:21:03David Storl has a better second throw and that is why he gets the

3:21:03 > 3:21:10silver medal. You can see the shot spinning. There is an athlete of the

3:21:10 > 3:21:19future. What do you reckon?I can see that.I can see that. David

3:21:19 > 3:21:24Storl, in silver.

3:21:25 > 3:21:28Storl, in silver. Can he overhaul the leader? It is long, but not long

3:21:28 > 3:21:34enough. It is a good effort. Do you know what, Tom Walsh, the event

3:21:34 > 3:21:42leader, has thrown so far. 22.13 metres. You would be optimistic of

3:21:42 > 3:21:47attacking that kind of distance. It is an enormous effort. David Storl

3:21:47 > 3:21:54having to settle for silver. Only one man stands between Tom Walsh

3:21:54 > 3:22:06defending his World Indoor title. The Brazilian.Did we see a 21.37

3:22:06 > 3:22:13metres from Hamer in the previous rounds that has now been corrected

3:22:13 > 3:22:18to a shorter distance. Maybe that was not measured properly and it has

3:22:18 > 3:22:22been corrected. Can he produce in the final round? It is possibly his

3:22:22 > 3:22:27best.

3:22:28 > 3:22:36best. His best is 21.23 metres. He is in fourth place. This has to go

3:22:36 > 3:22:42beyond 21.44 metres to get in the medals. It is not, it is a

3:22:42 > 3:22:46continental record, seven centimetres short of the medal. He

3:22:46 > 3:22:51did not throw 21.37 metres in the fifth round, but he definitely did

3:22:51 > 3:22:56in the sixth round.Another South American record for him. That means

3:22:56 > 3:23:05it is the gold medal for Tom Walsh. He gets to have one last try to see

3:23:05 > 3:23:13if he can extend this continental record. This event is stronger than

3:23:13 > 3:23:17it has ever been, and no Americans to speak of either, after years of

3:23:17 > 3:23:27dominance. Tom Walsh, in the sixth round, 22.13 metres is best so far.

3:23:27 > 3:23:35That is enormous. Off he goes to do a lap of honour. How far is this?

3:23:35 > 3:23:40That is brilliant. He wants to see the distance. He knows that is big.

3:23:40 > 3:23:48It shows how agile and quick years. A championship record. 22.31 metres.

3:23:48 > 3:23:54That is the fourth longest of all time. Adam Neilson, the world

3:23:54 > 3:23:59outdoor champion, the gold medal for New Zealand, he has done it in

3:23:59 > 3:24:05style. What a wonderful demonstration of the event. Three

3:24:05 > 3:24:09throws over 22 metres and a new championship record.Phenomenal,

3:24:09 > 3:24:19absolutely phenomenal. A superb display of rotational short potting.

3:24:19 > 3:24:26A glide shot put. What a fantastic competition. This, like the triple

3:24:26 > 3:24:30jump, took a while to get going. Really exciting in the last few

3:24:30 > 3:24:35rounds. There is the bronze medal winner. He came into the competition

3:24:35 > 3:24:42as the world leader. He lost that and had to settle for a minor medal.

3:24:42 > 3:24:49He knows he was in the company of greatness today. Tom Walsh becoming

3:24:49 > 3:24:54a real champion of this event. Popular on the circuit.A really

3:24:54 > 3:25:00nice guy. He used to be a builder. He puts his strength gains down to

3:25:00 > 3:25:07doing 30 hours a week on the building site. Mark Butler, her

3:25:07 > 3:25:21statistician, tells me that breaks the longest stadium championship

3:25:23 > 3:25:30record, 1987, 22.24 metres. There is the confirmation. Tom Walsh

3:25:30 > 3:25:36dominated from the start. He's saved his best till last. The gold medal

3:25:36 > 3:25:42for Tom Walsh and New Zealand.

3:25:42 > 3:25:48for Tom Walsh and New Zealand. A big field of 16. A straight final. It

3:25:48 > 3:25:54took a while to sort out. It seemed to accelerate halfway through, after

3:25:54 > 3:25:59the cut, the athlete seem to wake up. It is an event that is massively

3:25:59 > 3:26:09strong at the moment. 22 throwers over 22 metres last year. That is a

3:26:09 > 3:26:15record. It is normally between ten and 20. The New Zealand team in the

3:26:15 > 3:26:19event are going from strength to strength, will Adams dominating on

3:26:19 > 3:26:24the women's side.We were told the of these championships that there

3:26:24 > 3:26:30was a sell-out on the Saturday. I think there is but there are few

3:26:30 > 3:26:33people who have decided to mark the occasion with some interesting fancy

3:26:33 > 3:26:39dress. I am not sure of the theme. Can you guess? Not at all. I am

3:26:39 > 3:26:43struggling. It is Saturday and the kids are out enjoying this. Great to

3:26:43 > 3:26:47see so many people have made it through the snow to these

3:26:47 > 3:26:51championships because they are seeing some high-class performances.

3:26:51 > 3:26:57Tom Walsh demonstrating that New Zealander are doing well in the shot

3:26:57 > 3:27:00put.It is alive and kicking.

3:27:00 > 3:27:01Zealander are doing well in the shot put.It is alive and kicking. The

3:27:01 > 3:27:05new world order. The Americans out of form these days. I am not sure

3:27:05 > 3:27:09why. They are of excellent coaching and they understand the event. Great

3:27:09 > 3:27:12for New Zealand and it bodes well as we look forward to the Commonwealth

3:27:12 > 3:27:17Games.Before we head out to the triple

3:27:17 > 3:27:18Games.Before we head out to the triple jump gold medal ceremony, any

3:27:18 > 3:27:26reasons why? There is depth there as well. I think it is a matter of the

3:27:26 > 3:27:33consistency. Also, the top athletes have not shown up. They always show

3:27:33 > 3:27:42up outdoors. I am not sure why they are not here. It was a season's

3:27:42 > 3:27:48best, for two athletes, so they rose to the occasion. I guess the

3:27:48 > 3:27:52standard rose above them. They deserve favourite cardio celebration

3:27:52 > 3:27:57triple jumper. We enjoyed that competition today, it really came to

3:27:57 > 3:28:04life in the end.It came to life in the closing stages. It was a really

3:28:04 > 3:28:11solid performance by the Spanish triple jumper.

3:28:14 > 3:28:16triple jumper. Kimberly Williams, who led her lots of the competition,

3:28:16 > 3:28:24had to settle for the silver medal in the end. It was a really good

3:28:24 > 3:28:30performance from the 29-year-old. A silver medal on the global stage.

3:28:30 > 3:28:38Six and seven Zat two Olympic Games. The visual gold-medallist.

3:28:38 > 3:28:40The visual gold-medallist. You just somehow knew that she was going to

3:28:40 > 3:28:49come good. Tired legs, maybe. No, they are not. She's kidding. She

3:28:49 > 3:28:52brings a certain panache, style and confidence to the event. She will be

3:28:52 > 3:28:57tough to beat as she goes from strength to strength. Another global

3:28:57 > 3:29:06title. Two years ago, the gold medal last summer, and once again, she is

3:29:06 > 3:29:13champion of the world. The anthem of Venezuela.

3:29:19 > 3:29:28MUSIC: NATIONAL ANTHEM OF VENEZUELA.

3:30:23 > 3:30:23APPLAUSE

3:30:23 > 3:30:30APPLAUSE. She enjoyed her moment in the spotlight and so she should,

3:30:30 > 3:30:36well deserved. It took until the fifth round for her to come to life.

3:30:36 > 3:30:43She was yawning during the warm up. A world lead and gold medal for

3:30:43 > 3:30:48Venezuela.

3:30:57 > 3:31:01The medals designed by a local art student and they contain images of

3:31:01 > 3:31:11the bullring and and other iconic buildings of Birmingham. Triple

3:31:11 > 3:31:21jumpers just walking behind. And really enjoying that anthem, Rojas.

3:31:21 > 3:31:29Almost as much as Daley Thompson! Let's take a look ahead to tonight

3:31:29 > 3:31:34and the 60 metres semifinals. We know the main draw now, a bit more

3:31:34 > 3:31:52spread out than the women yesterday. The Chinese sprinter Su Bingtian.

3:31:52 > 3:31:57The Chinese sprinter Su Bingtian. CJ is in a good heat, soothing Jan will

3:31:57 > 3:32:02get out there quickly so he will get a taste of what it is like to be in

3:32:02 > 3:32:06that kind of final. But I do not think he will have too much trouble

3:32:06 > 3:32:11with any of the other athletes but he needs to put together a good

3:32:11 > 3:32:16race. Christian Coleman should have no trouble at all but he will be

3:32:16 > 3:32:20focused, he has the ability and he can look forward to the future, to

3:32:20 > 3:32:24the next round, to the final. And just work on things and make sure he

3:32:24 > 3:32:29overcomes things like that stumble he had in the first round. Ronnie

3:32:29 > 3:32:32Baker, the third heat, he looked pretty good and his preliminary

3:32:32 > 3:32:37round, the other American. Should not have any problems and then

3:32:37 > 3:32:41Andrew Robertson. Into the semifinal. He said he wanted to be

3:32:41 > 3:32:46in the final and he has a chance because everyone else in that heat

3:32:46 > 3:32:53really right close to where he is. He needs to produce that 6.5 that he

3:32:53 > 3:33:01produced earlier in the season. You talked about having to step up

3:33:01 > 3:33:07foot speed through the rounds. But Christian Coleman without having

3:33:07 > 3:33:12anyone in his semi to really challenge as opposed to CJ who needs

3:33:12 > 3:33:16to put himself against, will that make a difference?I do not think it

3:33:16 > 3:33:22matters for Christian Coleman because for the first five metres or

3:33:22 > 3:33:26so the competitors do not really matter for him.He will be out there

3:33:26 > 3:33:33already. Time for the women's 4x400 metres. Steve Cram is taking this

3:33:33 > 3:33:41relay for us. It looks like Rogers is going to be on that anchor leg

3:33:41 > 3:33:48from the United States. She has had a work-out today. It is strange. But

3:33:48 > 3:33:51once you have declared there is no option, you cannot change it. So

3:33:51 > 3:33:57once you're on the list of declared athletes you cannot change it. She

3:33:57 > 3:34:02made it through in the 800 metres albeit as fastest loser, they must

3:34:02 > 3:34:09think that she can perform. She's certainly performed well year. We

3:34:09 > 3:34:17will see how she goes but she is bound to be very tired. I am hoping

3:34:17 > 3:34:21this will be a good, straightforward qualifications for Great Britain.

3:34:21 > 3:34:28Definitely the easier of the two races without the Nigerian team. And

3:34:28 > 3:34:34we do not have Zoey Clark but it will not matter, a good strong team

3:34:34 > 3:34:39with a blend of experience and youth in there. Amy Allcock leading us

3:34:39 > 3:34:47off. Kazakhstan the only other team in this.

3:34:48 > 3:34:55in this. Young Hannah Williams, going on the third leg. Great

3:34:55 > 3:35:00experience for her. And Meghan Beesley getting back to her best

3:35:00 > 3:35:09going on the final leg. So good experience in this British quartet.

3:35:09 > 3:35:12Young Hannah Williams looking a bit nervous as she is bound to be. She

3:35:12 > 3:35:18is on the third leg.

3:35:26 > 3:35:35United States, Hayes leading. Just watch those lines.

3:35:35 > 3:35:40watch those lines. Hayes, just as I said that, what on earth is she

3:35:40 > 3:35:49doing. We will need to take another look at that.

3:35:49 > 3:35:52look at that. Hayes had a look above the screen. Kazakhstan out in the

3:35:52 > 3:36:02lead. Any Allcock just moving into nice second place.

3:36:02 > 3:36:05nice second place.Hayes now in the lead. The United States running

3:36:05 > 3:36:09under a bit of a cloud. We will take a look at that, the judges will have

3:36:09 > 3:36:15had a look. Hayes out in front of the moment. A pretty strong quartet

3:36:15 > 3:36:29as well. United States taking over as the Italians are chasing down.

3:36:29 > 3:36:42Kazakhstan just making a move now. This might be subject to a bit of

3:36:42 > 3:36:52infection.-- inspection. Just getting up in a bit of a tangle with

3:36:52 > 3:37:00Kazakhstan. The Italians running well.

3:37:00 > 3:37:09well. Italy pulling away. Great Britain all of the sudden young

3:37:09 > 3:37:14Hannah Williams has got a real task on your hands. And there is Hannah

3:37:14 > 3:37:20Williams. The much younger sister of Jodie Williams but have a huge

3:37:20 > 3:37:31amount of work to do. The gap narrowing a bit with Italy. Again a

3:37:31 > 3:37:36close inspection of the first leg. Perhaps Hayes stepping on the line

3:37:36 > 3:37:41as well. The gap narrowing between Great Britain and Northern Ireland,

3:37:41 > 3:37:46Williams chasing down Italy at the moment. Hannah Williams has been

3:37:46 > 3:37:53patient. She just needs to try to finish this off and make sure Meghan

3:37:53 > 3:37:58Beesley is in contact with Italy. You do not want to give her too much

3:37:58 > 3:38:05to do. Hannah Williams has done so well. Meghan Beesley will have a

3:38:05 > 3:38:08struggle for second place but certainly capable of bringing the

3:38:08 > 3:38:14phone for Great Britain. Meghan Beesley has been running pretty well

3:38:14 > 3:38:21indoors. She takes second place at the moment. The United States still

3:38:21 > 3:38:30a long way clear.Meghan Beesley ran a personal best indoors and that has

3:38:30 > 3:38:34put in good stead but she has not broken the Italian. Controlling from

3:38:34 > 3:38:38the front but the Italian very experienced in spite of that heavy

3:38:38 > 3:38:44strapping. Right on the tail of Meghan Beesley. The two of them

3:38:44 > 3:38:49running down the USA. Rogers is fired but they will not catch her.

3:38:49 > 3:38:53Meghan Beesley coming under some stress in the home straight. Having

3:38:53 > 3:39:01to fight hard, it is going to be right to the line, and she gets it.

3:39:01 > 3:39:06Rogers did well for the USA and Meghan Beesley getting in front on

3:39:06 > 3:39:13the first lap, then she had to dig really deep. And good 4x400 metre

3:39:13 > 3:39:18running. The Italians really raise their game. A bit of a mess earlier

3:39:18 > 3:39:27on. The first couple of legs, I will be interested to see again.

3:39:29 > 3:39:32be interested to see again. They got through but a little bit closer than

3:39:32 > 3:39:38they would have liked.Any

3:39:40 > 3:39:43they would have liked.Any Allcock leading, Williams and then Meghan

3:39:43 > 3:39:52Beesley. And as we said having a look at that first leg with Hayes.

3:39:52 > 3:39:56Take a look at this again. We've seen so much of this in these

3:39:56 > 3:40:02championships.I spoke to Meghan Beesley this morning and she said

3:40:02 > 3:40:07they have that drilled into them. She is on the line, that previous

3:40:07 > 3:40:12Ford. And again and not the best angle to look at it but it was

3:40:12 > 3:40:21before that.

3:40:21 > 3:40:27before that. She was so close. And Leah Sprenger literally was on the

3:40:27 > 3:40:32line by a few millimetres. And she was disqualified. I do not know.

3:40:32 > 3:40:37That was very close indeed. You would think she would be unlikely to

3:40:37 > 3:40:41be disqualified but you just need a fraction of the foot on the line to

3:40:41 > 3:40:47be disqualified. Others have been disqualified for that. It would be a

3:40:47 > 3:40:51shame. We've seen so many great athletes missing from finals. United

3:40:51 > 3:40:54States deserved to be in there because they are far and away the

3:40:54 > 3:41:01strongest quartet so that would be harsh.Well the USA are OK, that is

3:41:01 > 3:41:07now official. They obviously have taken a look and decided it was all

3:41:07 > 3:41:13right. A great scrap, Meghan Beesley hanging on. A much stronger second

3:41:13 > 3:41:21heat. A best for Great Britain. United States qualify easily. Let's

3:41:21 > 3:41:26speak to the four of them.Aimee, you started things off and had to

3:41:26 > 3:41:30run in your lane. There have been disqualifications this week, did

3:41:30 > 3:41:36that play on your mind?It was not that bad Premy, to be honest. I've

3:41:36 > 3:41:42run already on the track three times so I was pretty sure I would not run

3:41:42 > 3:41:46out of my name. Obviously there's the awareness that they have been

3:41:46 > 3:41:51disqualifications but for me I was not so worried. And you had a battle

3:41:51 > 3:41:56at some point trying to assert yourself.I really was, my intention

3:41:56 > 3:42:02was to knock the girls out. We just wanted to come here and get the

3:42:02 > 3:42:05first qualification out of the way and now it is job done and we look

3:42:05 > 3:42:11forward to the final tomorrow. And Hannah, quite composed leg from you.

3:42:11 > 3:42:17It was all right, I tried to capture. But happy with my leg.And

3:42:17 > 3:42:24you should be but Meghan Beesley, you had a real battle to the line.I

3:42:24 > 3:42:30just thought we came here to get top two and I just thought that is what

3:42:30 > 3:42:35we are getting. She was quite close on the back straight and I just

3:42:35 > 3:42:40thought keep pushing.Well held off and congratulations. We will see you

3:42:40 > 3:42:46tomorrow. Job well done and a sigh of relief

3:42:46 > 3:42:55for the USA.Yes, Hayes knew she was close to the line and did some

3:42:55 > 3:42:58acrobatics to get off it and keep yourself in good shape. Still

3:42:58 > 3:43:06surprised at that line, running in the 800 metres. But you cannot

3:43:06 > 3:43:10change. And she's in the final. I wonder if they thought she was not

3:43:10 > 3:43:13going to make the final which would be strange because she is very good

3:43:13 > 3:43:19and should be in the final. So very odd but the US looked good and Great

3:43:19 > 3:43:25Britain looked fantastic just in terms of being competitive.Thank

3:43:25 > 3:43:30you so much for your company. Just to say the second of those heats for

3:43:30 > 3:43:36the relays of the four by fours will be on the BBC website and BBC app

3:43:36 > 3:43:41for you right now. We're just about to go off air but that is on 5:30pm

3:43:41 > 3:43:48on BBC Two tonight, a whole lot of finals. The 60 metres hurdles for

3:43:48 > 3:43:53the women, 1500 metres for the women and we finish with the fastest men

3:43:53 > 3:43:56in the world, all here tonight in Birmingham. See you at 5:30pm.

3:43:56 > 3:44:02Goodbye.
