0:02:24 > 0:02:31-- this is how the evening pans out.

0:03:39 > 0:03:48We welcome this Saturday teatime, Katarina Johnson-Thompson. Fantastic

0:03:48 > 0:03:53to have you here.I think I was still doing the long jump yesterday.

0:03:53 > 0:03:58Very fresh information to me when people call me the world champion.

0:03:58 > 0:04:03Did you get any sleep? I saw you posting at an un-Godly hour you

0:04:03 > 0:04:10should get some sleep.Yes, I left my alarm on from the day before and

0:04:10 > 0:04:17it was a 7am wake up call and the memories started flooding in. I

0:04:17 > 0:04:25slept from 3 to 7.I'm sure a lot was going on h your mind. You had

0:04:25 > 0:04:30family here. They must have been Thripped to see you achieve that --

0:04:30 > 0:04:36thrilled to see you achieve that? Yes it was amazing, they came to the

0:04:36 > 0:04:41hotel and spoke about the whole day and it was a thing I will cherish

0:04:41 > 0:04:46forever.Can we have a look at your medal.I have just picked it up.

0:04:46 > 0:04:59It's got...It is lovely.

0:04:59 > 0:05:01It's got...It is lovely.Spaghetti junction there.We have the library

0:05:01 > 0:05:08there.We want to talk about your day and what going through your

0:05:08 > 0:05:18head. Let's look back at how you won that gold.Is this an opportunity

0:05:18 > 0:05:24for Katarina Johnson-Thompson? Not the best of starts. Williams may win

0:05:24 > 0:05:36this. 8.07. It is the time that is important.

0:05:36 > 0:05:39important.Johnson-Thompson jumped 1.97 in Rio. That is more like it.

0:05:39 > 0:05:47She is in the lead over all. Shot put next. Moves to the back of the

0:05:47 > 0:05:54circle. Legs involved. That is a good effort. That is huge. That will

0:05:54 > 0:05:59make such a difference to her. Johnson-Thompson very capable of

0:05:59 > 0:06:05putting it out of reach here. Last jump. That looks much better. She

0:06:05 > 0:06:11should know if she runs to her potential this will be not a lap,

0:06:11 > 0:06:20but four laps of honour. In the gold medal position. She says this is my

0:06:20 > 0:06:25race, this is my time, this is my title. She has the gold medal. She

0:06:25 > 0:06:32is the world indoor champion. You said your alarm went off at 7. What

0:06:32 > 0:06:36is going through your mind on the morning with five events ahead of

0:06:36 > 0:06:42you and you know you have a real opportunity to get on top?It is

0:06:42 > 0:06:46something I have been overwhelmed with in the past. Five events in one

0:06:46 > 0:06:52day is a lot. But I was chilled and I thought, I have just got hurdles

0:06:52 > 0:06:57and high jump and I have some time to do the shot put and I'm in the

0:06:57 > 0:07:02mind set of taking things in sections. I wasn't too worried. I

0:07:02 > 0:07:08was just focussedWas ate conscious thing that in the past you were

0:07:08 > 0:07:13looking ahead too much?Yes, especially even in the lead up, in

0:07:13 > 0:07:17the the build up, I used to get overwhelmed trying to think about

0:07:17 > 0:07:22every technical event. I wouldn't able to sleep maybe two nights

0:07:22 > 0:07:27before. The Thursday night I slept like a baby and woke up fully rested

0:07:27 > 0:07:37and ready to go.Is it too pre presumptuous to say you looked like

0:07:37 > 0:07:42you were enjoying yourself in the shot put?No, I had a very bad warm

0:07:42 > 0:07:56up. People would have seen I wasn't throwing very far. Two of aaunties

0:07:56 > 0:08:02came on dance cam and one gave it a go and it relaxed me. I I was like,

0:08:02 > 0:08:07they're here and enjoying themselves. I took my advice. Jonny

0:08:07 > 0:08:14was there, my coach, to hell me do the shot put. It built and built up

0:08:14 > 0:08:21and my first throw was decent. What has been the difference out side of

0:08:21 > 0:08:24aunties, you can't take them to every competition. What has been the

0:08:24 > 0:08:28difference in the competition and previous ones, where you said this

0:08:28 > 0:08:34one you didn't get so nervous and were able to be more relaxed?

0:08:34 > 0:08:39Exactly that, in the shot put especially when I used to not do a

0:08:39 > 0:08:44good warm up or a good first throw, I would fall apart and think, I'm

0:08:44 > 0:08:48never going to throw it. I feel like I was able to understand where I was

0:08:48 > 0:08:53on each of the event and be like, OK I need to do this and build it and

0:08:53 > 0:08:58just take it in my stride and not panic. Because I know I'm capable of

0:08:58 > 0:09:03doing it.The high jump, you were short of your best, still the best

0:09:03 > 0:09:08in the field. Were you able to say, I have lot a few points, and I'm

0:09:08 > 0:09:13going to have to now pull something out of bag in the shot put?Yes, it

0:09:13 > 0:09:20always feels like the case in the shot put, my shot put cancels out my

0:09:20 > 0:09:29high jump and I'm lucky because nothing cancels out the long jump. I

0:09:29 > 0:09:32found the high jump competition difficult. My adrenaline went after

0:09:32 > 0:09:40I knew I was the last one in. I'm just happy I was able to, yeah... I

0:09:40 > 0:09:47think that was the jump. I was aiming for 1.94. So I didn't want to

0:09:47 > 0:09:52celebrate. But it didn't come off. I was happy with the way I bounced

0:09:52 > 0:10:01back from the high jump.We have spoken about the ability of

0:10:01 > 0:10:06heptathletes to leave baggage behind, you seemed to manage it and

0:10:06 > 0:10:10just park whatever happened in the event before and move forward?Yes

0:10:10 > 0:10:16you have to, good or bad f you have an amazing vent, you can't, I have

0:10:16 > 0:10:20done that in the past, had an amazing high jump and think

0:10:20 > 0:10:25everything is going great. So I tried take each event as they come

0:10:25 > 0:10:30good or bad.You have had some difficult times in big global events

0:10:30 > 0:10:35and big events for you haven't come off, whether Beijing or in London

0:10:35 > 0:10:41and it felt like yesterday was a real redemption, you were righting

0:10:41 > 0:10:44wrongs and proving to yourself you can get to the top. Did you feel

0:10:44 > 0:10:49yesterday was a break through moment?Yes, I felt break through,

0:10:49 > 0:10:53the start of something hopefully. I know I can compete at this level and

0:10:53 > 0:10:59I have a gold medal. To me it is a huge confidence boost to know I have

0:10:59 > 0:11:02a global title and I'm working towards something special in the

0:11:02 > 0:11:10next couple of years and trying to build.I know she won't say, that,

0:11:10 > 0:11:14making that transition and moving to France, a lot of people, athletes

0:11:14 > 0:11:18move, they do, but they tend to go to countries, where they speak

0:11:18 > 0:11:25English. That whole independence... If they speak English.Or this

0:11:25 > 0:11:32moving to France, big adjustment, upheaval and having to settle

0:11:32 > 0:11:38yourself into a new regime shouldn't be underestimated. I think you're

0:11:38 > 0:11:41bearing the fruits of second winter being in a positive environment with

0:11:41 > 0:11:46a good training group. I think that showed. For sure, last year I think

0:11:46 > 0:11:53it was too soon. I remember people saying, don't be scared but I was

0:11:53 > 0:11:59so, I wanted London 2017 so much. This year's the first year I have

0:11:59 > 0:12:03had the full winter training and learned techniques and the direction

0:12:03 > 0:12:07I want to go in and I think it is coming together and I was happy I

0:12:07 > 0:12:13was able to rectify it at home.I'm proud of you, the critics that

0:12:13 > 0:12:18didn't believe you had the ability to move forward. I think you have

0:12:18 > 0:12:25demonstrated that you're ready.I'm stubborn. People wanted me to go to

0:12:25 > 0:12:30single events, but I'm stubborn and I believe in myself and I believe

0:12:30 > 0:12:36I'm a heptathlete and I want to show I can do this.You talked of

0:12:36 > 0:12:42sacrifice in your interview yesterday, you take yourself to a

0:12:42 > 0:12:45different country, settle in somewhere away from the home

0:12:45 > 0:12:48comforts and there must have been times where you questioned whether

0:12:48 > 0:12:54that was the right move or not.Yes for sure. It is inevitable that I

0:12:54 > 0:12:57questioned it, especially after last year where it didn't come together

0:12:57 > 0:13:02in London. Now I know I'm on the right path and it will be worth it.

0:13:02 > 0:13:09What are you excited about for the future? You have got Commonwealth

0:13:09 > 0:13:16Games coming up and now you I think you probably feel got that off your

0:13:16 > 0:13:20back, what excites you about the future?I just want to do more of

0:13:20 > 0:13:25what I did yesterday. I want to be comfortable in my surroundings and I

0:13:25 > 0:13:32want my body, I want to be confident with my body, no injuries, training

0:13:32 > 0:13:36and be here winning medals. I know in the past I have concentrated so

0:13:36 > 0:13:42much on points or scores or heights and I just want to get into that

0:13:42 > 0:13:48mentality where I want to win and come here and be competitive. Like

0:13:48 > 0:13:53you used when you were a kid.Your dogs and your mum are getting a bit

0:13:53 > 0:13:59chubby?I spoke to my mum yesterday and, my Nan was with the nothings

0:13:59 > 0:14:06watching that interview, she said, they're my dogs. You have lost your

0:14:06 > 0:14:10dogs! The Commonwealth Games is a few weeks away, you must take so

0:14:10 > 0:14:15much confidence from that performance into the heptathlon

0:14:15 > 0:14:19there. Do you feel you have this new mind set and putting it over two

0:14:19 > 0:14:24days will be the next challenge. You have got to bed and get up the next

0:14:24 > 0:14:30day with the same mind set.Yes it will be interesting, it is only a

0:14:30 > 0:14:34month and instead of breaking down the training after the indoor

0:14:34 > 0:14:39season, I'm trying to build on the pentathlon and I am going to have a

0:14:39 > 0:14:46week off and go back into training and build it up. And then I have got

0:14:46 > 0:14:5516 weeks until the Europeans and this song will be on my play list!

0:14:55 > 0:15:01This puts you in your happy place. Three times yesterday.Athletes

0:15:01 > 0:15:06talked of plan about attempting this year and we have three major

0:15:06 > 0:15:14Championships, you want to go for all three?

0:15:23 > 0:15:26I'm just focusing on trying to build my craft and working on building it

0:15:26 > 0:15:29altogether.We have discussed various events over the last few

0:15:29 > 0:15:34years the best way forward, I have asked Denise is it to strengthen the

0:15:34 > 0:15:38events you are weaker on, to go for the events you are great at and not

0:15:38 > 0:15:46worry about that. Have you had a rethink at all?I always try and

0:15:46 > 0:15:49work on my throwing, it is an ongoing process and I don't think I

0:15:49 > 0:15:52will ever be finished, but for me my strengths are so strong, I need to

0:15:52 > 0:15:59make sure that those events, my high jump and long jump that I didn't do

0:15:59 > 0:16:04yesterday where they need to be. I try not to get too down with myself,

0:16:04 > 0:16:08and I know I'm competing with my training partner, she did an amazing

0:16:08 > 0:16:14throw yesterday, she got 15.50, and it just shows that certain people

0:16:14 > 0:16:18have certain strengths, and certain people have certain weaknesses, and

0:16:18 > 0:16:23she can throw that in training and I can't even do that. She's just got

0:16:23 > 0:16:26it, and she would ask me the same for the high jump, so it is trying

0:16:26 > 0:16:31to get to a place where I am happy with.And while there isn't another

0:16:31 > 0:16:34global event this year, in the European Championships hopefully you

0:16:34 > 0:16:40will come up against W Thiem, which is a wonderful opportunity, and if

0:16:40 > 0:16:42things go right next month, more good training under your belt, that

0:16:42 > 0:16:49is a great opportunity for you. Definitely, that is what I'm working

0:16:49 > 0:16:52towards, and it will be a great opportunity, especially with

0:16:52 > 0:16:56Karolina Schaeffer from Germany as well, so I definitely am going to do

0:16:56 > 0:17:00the Commonwealth Games and have a long time to build on both of those

0:17:00 > 0:17:05competitions.It is about taking one step at a time, and she is right,

0:17:05 > 0:17:09you have to get to that happy place where there is an acceptance, at

0:17:09 > 0:17:14this point she is not going to throw 15 metres in the shot, but she will

0:17:14 > 0:17:17improve and be solid. But what has let her down has been her strengths,

0:17:17 > 0:17:24so that cannot happen. Every heptathlete is walking that fine

0:17:24 > 0:17:27line between giving, taking and keeping the balance. You can hear

0:17:27 > 0:17:32the music behind us, which means there is a medal ceremony about a

0:17:32 > 0:17:37happen. It was the men's competition this morning, won by Tomas Walsh of

0:17:37 > 0:17:46New Zealand, so Steve Backley will talk us through this.

0:17:46 > 0:17:57COMMENTATOR: It was a very entertaining competition, this. So,

0:17:57 > 0:18:02in reverse order, Tomas Stanek, one of the most consistent performers

0:18:02 > 0:18:09before the championships, 21 metres and 44 centimetres, made to look

0:18:09 > 0:18:16rather ordinary by the standards set by Tom Walsh. But a good performance

0:18:16 > 0:18:27for Stanek. And David Storl, another medal for his enormous collection,

0:18:27 > 0:18:31twice world champion, three times European champion, same distance,

0:18:31 > 0:18:36silver and bronze, but went to a carrot back to the next best throw,

0:18:36 > 0:18:40and even that was just a few centimetres. But the main man, Tom

0:18:40 > 0:18:46Walsh. CHEERING

0:18:46 > 0:18:49A superb performance, Championship record, the fourth best ever,

0:18:49 > 0:18:56dominated all three throwers would have taken the gold medal. He was a

0:18:56 > 0:18:59talented rugby player growing up, his mum wanted him to play for the

0:18:59 > 0:19:05all Blacks. He says now he has made the right decision, and you can't

0:19:05 > 0:19:13argue with that. Jebet chip record, 22.31. And we will enjoy the New

0:19:13 > 0:19:19Zealand national anthem. All smiles from Tom Walsh.

0:20:13 > 0:20:19APPLAUSE

0:20:19 > 0:20:27Brilliant stuff for Tom Walsh, another global title. Boy is he

0:20:27 > 0:20:31going to be a handful in the Commonwealth Games next month in

0:20:31 > 0:20:34Australia.

0:20:37 > 0:20:45STUDIO: Congratulations to Tomas Walsh, and we will be having another

0:20:45 > 0:20:50medal ceremony in a couple of minutes, we have another couple of

0:20:50 > 0:20:58minutes here with Kat. Has it been a crazy

0:20:59 > 0:21:04crazy 24-hour is?Not really.She is laid-back.She is, she is just happy

0:21:04 > 0:21:09in her own space, right? It is just the way she is.Lets give a robbery

0:21:09 > 0:21:13at home another look at that gold, as you don't know, it could be the

0:21:13 > 0:21:17only one Great Britain have, we hope that there are more to come, but

0:21:17 > 0:21:22look, the wonderful design of all the famous buildings of Birmingham

0:21:22 > 0:21:26there, and of course you got one Commonwealth Games to go down to the

0:21:26 > 0:21:31goalposts for, and in four years' time you will be back in Birmingham

0:21:31 > 0:21:35hopefully for the Commonwealth Games again.Yes, it will be my second

0:21:35 > 0:21:38Commonwealth Games, this was my first. Are you going to do some more

0:21:38 > 0:21:46in doors? No, that is me done now. But generally?Yes, it definitely,

0:21:46 > 0:21:49it is my second pentathlon of my senior career, so this is my

0:21:49 > 0:21:57favourite sort of arena to do it. Clearly she likes in doors at!

0:22:00 > 0:22:04Glasgow next year.Thank you for coming to chat to us, and best of

0:22:04 > 0:22:08luck. It seems to be going the right way, so best of luck, keep doing

0:22:08 > 0:22:14what you are doing. Of course, it is as I say the 60 metres medal

0:22:14 > 0:22:23ceremony. For that fantastic final last night. It was a one-two for the

0:22:23 > 0:22:30Ivory Coast, and they are top of the medal table after that magnificent

0:22:30 > 0:22:39final. It all came right last night after a tough few years the Murielle

0:22:39 > 0:22:45Ahoure, she has won medals on the first stage, the world stage, and

0:22:45 > 0:22:47Steve Cram will talk us through the medal ceremony.

0:22:51 > 0:22:55If you look in the middle tables and performances, she had the total

0:22:55 > 0:23:04number of medals won back by her country. And then they win another

0:23:04 > 0:23:09two.

0:23:10 > 0:23:16two. And joining them, Mujinga Kambundji. Switzerland have never

0:23:16 > 0:23:21won a medal in this event before. When was Switzerland's last medal at

0:23:21 > 0:23:33these Championship is? It was 2001. Swiss 800 metres runner.

0:23:34 > 0:23:40Swiss 800 metres runner.Bucher. Well done. And if Switzerland have

0:23:40 > 0:23:46had to wait a long time for a medal at these championships, then

0:23:46 > 0:23:55suddenly for Ivory Coast, two come along at once. And it is a new

0:23:55 > 0:24:02personal best, Murielle Ahoure was just a fraction away from her world

0:24:02 > 0:24:08record. But the champion, winning her country's first ever global gold

0:24:08 > 0:24:17medal, from the Ivory Coast, Murielle Ahoure, with a superb

0:24:17 > 0:24:19performance, 6.97. You have to go all the way back to the olden days

0:24:19 > 0:24:25of the 1990s for a time given that, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce won four

0:24:25 > 0:24:31years ago 64.90 eight. So if that is any measure, then Murielle Ahoure is

0:24:31 > 0:24:36right up there with a top-class performance.

0:25:52 > 0:25:56What a moment for her, and what a moment for the Ivory Coast, gold and

0:25:56 > 0:26:02silver in the women's 60 metres. Murielle Ahoure and Marie-Josee Ta

0:26:02 > 0:26:05Lou, her team-mate, and Mujinga Kambundji for Switzerland taking the

0:26:05 > 0:26:11bronze.

0:26:23 > 0:26:27STUDIO: So far for Great Britain it has all been about the women, hasn't

0:26:27 > 0:26:34it? It has very much been ladies night. We've just had a chat with

0:26:34 > 0:26:46Katarina Johnson-Thompson, and we saw Laura Muriel take a medal

0:26:46 > 0:26:52earlier on, can she add to her growing

0:26:53 > 0:26:58growing collection of world and European medals?

0:26:58 > 0:27:02COMMENTATOR: Laura Muir stretches away and comes to win the gold

0:27:02 > 0:27:02COMMENTATOR: Laura Muir stretches away and comes to win the gold medal

0:27:02 > 0:27:08for Britain. Look how fast she is going. She has now got two gold

0:27:08 > 0:27:17medals. She is the champion again. Laura Muir! Laura Muir has one last

0:27:17 > 0:27:23effort. She has definitely got a medal, but what colour will it be?

0:27:23 > 0:27:29Indoors is something she excels at.

0:27:29 > 0:27:32Steve Cram and Paula Radcliffe are up in the commentary box. Good

0:27:32 > 0:27:37evening.Good evening.Good to see you both up there and enjoying the

0:27:37 > 0:27:41light show going on behind you. This is obviously a great opportunity for

0:27:41 > 0:27:45Laura, because the tactics as you pointed out, Steve, with the men and

0:27:45 > 0:27:49the heats of the women the other day, they are so important indoors,

0:27:49 > 0:27:51and Laura navigated her semifinal very well the other day. It was

0:27:51 > 0:27:56always going to be tough, so how do you see at playing out for her

0:27:56 > 0:27:59tonight? How do you see her approaching this one?I think she is

0:27:59 > 0:28:03probably going to have to be a little bit patient again almost like

0:28:03 > 0:28:07she was in the 3000. I don't think she will want to make the first

0:28:07 > 0:28:23move. She has got Dibaba again, and she

0:28:23 > 0:28:27she has got Chepkoech as well. I think Laura just needs to be as

0:28:27 > 0:28:32close as she can when the real move comes on and see what she has got

0:28:32 > 0:28:37left in her legs. She will fight for a medal like she did in the 3000.

0:28:37 > 0:28:40Have you spoken to her or her coach, Paula? Do you know how she's

0:28:40 > 0:28:45feeling, has she got it left in her legs after the tough 3000 and in the

0:28:45 > 0:28:491500 coming less than 24 hours later?I haven't spoken to her, I

0:28:49 > 0:28:52spoke to her after the race and she was happy then, but I think they

0:28:52 > 0:28:56feel it is a little bit less pressure heading into the 1500

0:28:56 > 0:29:00metres, just go in and enjoy themselves. I did speak to Hassane

0:29:00 > 0:29:06earlier, and she said she felt better in the heats of the 1500 and

0:29:06 > 0:29:11she had in the 3000, so I think it will come down to who is the less

0:29:11 > 0:29:13fatigued, and Chepkoech is obviously the

0:29:13 > 0:29:16fatigued, and Chepkoech is obviously the one coming in with fresh legs.

0:29:16 > 0:29:21The way that the three of them ran that final half of the 3000 is will

0:29:21 > 0:29:25undoubtedly have taken something out of them, and if I'm honest, I think

0:29:25 > 0:29:31the person who is more likely to show the cracks is actually Dibaba.

0:29:31 > 0:29:37I think Sam and Laura will be tired, but they will fight through it.

0:29:37 > 0:29:40Dibaba if she feels tired tends to have that tendency to give up a

0:29:40 > 0:29:45little bit or make the wrong tactical decision. That is where we

0:29:45 > 0:29:50disagree, I think Dibaba will still be strong. When it is not going

0:29:50 > 0:29:53well, Dibaba just cracks, I do agree with that, but I think she is the

0:29:53 > 0:29:58one who will force this. Chepkoech is capable, but if she will just

0:29:58 > 0:30:03take this on, they will make it a race that the 3000 women will feel

0:30:03 > 0:30:07the 3000 in ie make it a 1500 metres that is hard rather than to burn up

0:30:07 > 0:30:14over the last few laps. If it is not moving after five or 600 metres, I

0:30:14 > 0:30:17think Dibaba will want to get through. It is an intriguing race,

0:30:17 > 0:30:20three or four great athletes in there, so let's hope Laura can do

0:30:20 > 0:30:24it.A busy evening tonight, nine finals, I have no doubt we will

0:30:24 > 0:30:29speak to as the evening progresses.

0:30:29 > 0:30:35The light show was for the pole vaulters who are coming in and being

0:30:35 > 0:30:42introduced. Stefanidi just has one piece missing and it is this. You

0:30:42 > 0:30:49would put money on her.If you're a gambling person for sure. She has

0:30:49 > 0:30:54been fantastic last season. And that hunger, that desire to add to her

0:30:54 > 0:30:58collection is so important. She is consistent. They're just warming up

0:30:58 > 0:31:05for that and we can just go back and relive a bit of 60-metre... Let's

0:31:05 > 0:31:16look at those... Heats. Which happened this morning of course.

0:31:16 > 0:31:20Christian Coleman had a stumble. Yes, but he looked so in control,

0:31:20 > 0:31:26even with the stumble. It gives an indication of the calibre he has,

0:31:26 > 0:31:30just the class of the field, the world record holder. He will want to

0:31:30 > 0:31:36get that right. The world champion calibre athlete after making a

0:31:36 > 0:31:40mistake. They want to show themselves and prove to themselves

0:31:40 > 0:31:43that I know what I'm doing here and I won't make a mistake like that

0:31:43 > 0:31:52again. It will be interesting, he may lay down something to send a

0:31:52 > 0:31:57message to anyone who may have thought after this morning that he

0:31:57 > 0:32:03is vulnerable.The Chinese athlete has this incredible start.He has a

0:32:03 > 0:32:11great start. If Coleman was to faulter, he would be the one to get

0:32:11 > 0:32:16in there. He has a good chance for a medal, because of the way he starts

0:32:16 > 0:32:22and his ability to drive out of the blocks aggressively. I expect he and

0:32:22 > 0:32:28Coleman will be just about even for the first 20 metres are so. He is so

0:32:28 > 0:32:36efficient and he has power. Pretty quick. Good leg speed. Also just the

0:32:36 > 0:32:41ability to create angles out of blocks to give him that force to go

0:32:41 > 0:32:45forward. That is good core strength that allows him to do that. They're

0:32:45 > 0:32:51going off at 10 past 7 the semi-finals. In Su's semi is Ujah,

0:32:51 > 0:32:55what did you make of his performance? He looked good. He gets

0:32:55 > 0:33:03faster. You will notice, unlike the others, he gets faster as the race

0:33:03 > 0:33:08gets going. He starts to pull away later. What is impressive and it

0:33:08 > 0:33:13wasn't what I saw in that race, but speaking with him before I came here

0:33:13 > 0:33:18in the lobby, he just seemed like he is in a mind set that he knows this

0:33:18 > 0:33:23is an opportunity for him. He said he felt good this morning and felt

0:33:23 > 0:33:27good about this afternoon. But he knows he has work to do. And his

0:33:27 > 0:33:31mind set seems like he understands what is ahead of him and he feels

0:33:31 > 0:33:36confident of what he needs to do and that he can do it. But he knows it

0:33:36 > 0:33:41is tough. It is a great place to be. Glasgow last week, he wasn't at his

0:33:41 > 0:33:45best and I was concerned, because he started to talk about winning. I

0:33:45 > 0:33:50want to see the old CJ where he is focussed on being himself and just

0:33:50 > 0:33:58running his own race. That is to come. Now the turn of the hurdlers.

0:33:58 > 0:34:05First the women's semi-finals. Andrew Cotter.

0:34:13 > 0:34:23COMMENTATOR: The great hope rests with Pearson.

0:34:23 > 0:34:37with Pearson. Plotitsyna there. Charlton has had a good season.

0:34:37 > 0:34:45Amusan can threaten the medals. If she makes the final. Manning one of

0:34:45 > 0:34:49three very strong Americans. Fifth in London at the World

0:34:49 > 0:34:57Championships. Won the Tour title after her victory in Glasgow. Herman

0:34:57 > 0:35:05of Belarus, a world junior champion a couple of years ago and Kozak of

0:35:05 > 0:35:10Hungary.

0:35:15 > 0:35:29Hungary. On the inside we saw Loncarek of Croatia.

0:35:33 > 0:35:41Christina Manning goes in lane 6. Look out for Amusan and Charlton

0:35:41 > 0:35:50alongside her.

0:35:51 > 0:35:57And well only two go through. It is tight for second. But Christina

0:35:57 > 0:36:02Manning ran a good race and a determined race to take her through.

0:36:02 > 0:36:09Amusan with a smile as well. Manning, we talk about the

0:36:09 > 0:36:13imponderables, the things that can go wrong in hurdles and negotiating

0:36:13 > 0:36:21the barriers and the pit falls, Christina Manning and Charlton has

0:36:21 > 0:36:25second place with a national indoor record. We have got to look at that

0:36:25 > 0:36:33third place time as well. Very swift running by the Nigerian. Wasn't

0:36:33 > 0:36:41Manning great? Very good out of the blocks. She is aggressive, the gun

0:36:41 > 0:36:47goes, crack, head down, she focuses on the hurdle. She runs off hard,

0:36:47 > 0:36:52powerfully and strong. Keeping it nice and calm. Not rushing anything.

0:36:52 > 0:36:56Just relying on the times and times she has done hurdle clearances. She

0:36:56 > 0:37:02has done this well. Comes off the final barrier and cruises into a

0:37:02 > 0:37:09lovely 7.83.And 7.91 for Amusan the Nigerian. You would suspect that

0:37:09 > 0:37:15might be good enough with the two fastest losers going through. A good

0:37:15 > 0:37:22run by Charlton. She goes through with Christina Manning.

0:37:22 > 0:37:29STUDIO: We are lucky we have seen one gold medal in the studio, I'm

0:37:29 > 0:37:36delighted the women's 60-metre cold medal winner is with us, Murielle

0:37:36 > 0:37:43Ahoure. We loved your victory last night.Thank you.You ran so well.

0:37:43 > 0:37:47Your progress through the whole day was fantastic. You must have felt

0:37:47 > 0:37:52like you had so much energy, because you hit the board at the end and ran

0:37:52 > 0:37:57straight back again. I think you ran 200 metres.I was so excited, I

0:37:57 > 0:38:01couldn't believe it. I have trained so hard for this from the beginning

0:38:01 > 0:38:07of the season. My coach Alan Powell, I train in Texas, he told me I could

0:38:07 > 0:38:11do this and we tried two times already and I came out with two

0:38:11 > 0:38:19silvers. We were just excited. Our goal was to definitely to get gold

0:38:19 > 0:38:29this year. So third time, I'm so happy. It proves that patience is a

0:38:29 > 0:38:33virtue. When you talk about age, but you have been in the game a while.

0:38:33 > 0:38:39Those celebrations. The cameraman almost pulled his hamstring, trying

0:38:39 > 0:38:46to catch you!Oh, my goodness. That patience to keep coming back was so

0:38:46 > 0:38:50fantastic.Thank you so much. It has been amazing. It has been a tough

0:38:50 > 0:38:55last couple of years for me from injury and last year my father

0:38:55 > 0:39:01passed away from cancer after battling for two years. So I went

0:39:01 > 0:39:05through depression and different things. But God put people in my

0:39:05 > 0:39:13life. My mentor. She also died from breast cancer. It was good to have

0:39:13 > 0:39:21uplifting people with her and my coach.

0:39:22 > 0:39:28coach.When your dad died you sad you could hardly get out of bed.I

0:39:28 > 0:39:32know I don't know how I got the first place in the world charp ships

0:39:32 > 0:39:37last year. I was not there at all. Just a total fog. So the leader was

0:39:37 > 0:39:42there with me and talked me through and she gave me her energy and you

0:39:42 > 0:39:47know my coach again, we talked through face time, 24/7. Probably

0:39:47 > 0:39:57too much. But it is good.Stay with -- stay us with. Now back to the

0:39:57 > 0:40:0760-metre hurdle and Steve Cram. And we have two potential medal winners.

0:40:09 > 0:40:14STEVE CRAM:You have the reigning European champion and Sally Pearson

0:40:14 > 0:40:22and Harrison, the world record holder. Harrison looked superb in

0:40:22 > 0:40:27qualifying yesterday. Didn't even win the US champs. This is the

0:40:27 > 0:40:31question against Harrison, it is when the chips are down, can she

0:40:31 > 0:40:46perform? This is how they line up. Lindley

0:40:46 > 0:40:53Lindley of Nigeria ya, Kerekes, Talay. Lindley of Nigeria, a new

0:40:53 > 0:41:07personal best this year. She won in Ireland. Kerekes of Hungary. The

0:41:07 > 0:41:16Hungarian indoor champion. Talay, not almost back to her best. She won

0:41:16 > 0:41:22a bronze medal indoors in 2012 and outdoors in 2015. So Harrison, is

0:41:22 > 0:41:30this her chance to win the global title? Looks a little nervous. Sally

0:41:30 > 0:41:39Pearson looks like she means business as ever. Mixing an outdoor

0:41:39 > 0:41:44and indoor season. Heading back to the Commonwealth Games in our home

0:41:44 > 0:41:49patch.

0:41:52 > 0:41:57patch. Roleder of jarmy. And Boons of the Netherlands. She was second

0:41:57 > 0:42:08in Ireland to Lindley. And Neziri of Finland. Just the top two. So the

0:42:08 > 0:42:15fastest loser time for Amusan was 7.91. So if either of these, well

0:42:15 > 0:42:22there is three, Roleder, Pearson and Harrison, who ever finishes third

0:42:22 > 0:42:27needs to be quick.

0:42:37 > 0:42:44A Championship record, Jones, goes back to Doha in 2010. That could be

0:42:44 > 0:42:47under threat today.

0:42:53 > 0:43:04It is going to be Harrison. Roleder comes through. 7.77. The third will

0:43:04 > 0:43:10probably be quick enough. One more semi-final to come of course.

0:43:10 > 0:43:16Harrison was not as quick as Pearson out of the blocks. By the time she

0:43:16 > 0:43:23got the first hurdle she was on her way. That is taken up to 7.79.

0:43:23 > 0:43:34Pearson at the moment is a hundredth slower.That 7.92 could be vital.

0:43:34 > 0:43:43She is hanging on. Kendra Harrison is a brilliant all-round athlete.

0:43:43 > 0:43:48She handled Pearson well. Sally's always great, drives hard. Nearly

0:43:48 > 0:43:55perfect over this barrier. But Kendra has that leg speed. Look how

0:43:55 > 0:44:01aggressive she is. When her trail leg hits the floor, she pushes on.

0:44:01 > 0:44:05That shows she is confident in her technique and can marry the leg

0:44:05 > 0:44:09speed with good solid technique and that gets her to the line most of

0:44:09 > 0:44:18the time first. How do you compare to that the run in the heats? That

0:44:18 > 0:44:27looked more of an effort. Let's do the result first.

0:44:34 > 0:44:40And what an exciting final that will be at 8:55pm. There is a story doing

0:44:40 > 0:44:43the rounds that last night when you win to get your flag to do the lap

0:44:43 > 0:44:47of honour, there was no Ivory Coast Flag around, so you took an Irish

0:44:47 > 0:44:52flag?Yes, and I just flipped it upside down, so it is just the

0:44:52 > 0:45:01opposite.We can work with this! I love the idea, you can't tell the

0:45:01 > 0:45:08difference.We have to do is a thing about that, there should be some

0:45:08 > 0:45:14Ivory Coast flags out here, because you are on the rise. The Irish are

0:45:14 > 0:45:21very happy!

0:45:21 > 0:45:27very happy! There is a resurgence of sprinters that you guys have, with

0:45:27 > 0:45:33Murray and Ta Lou.We have three, but one couldn't make it here.

0:45:33 > 0:45:40Before when I started in the Olympic is, I was totally alone and scared

0:45:40 > 0:45:45out of my mind, but every year, people keep coming, so we are so

0:45:45 > 0:45:54excited, the team is growing, we have heard Liz and shot put is. --

0:45:54 > 0:46:03hurdlers and shot puts. And you top the medal table at the moment, and

0:46:03 > 0:46:07you are the first African sprinter, male or female, to win the 60 metres

0:46:07 > 0:46:13title, so a real pioneer.It is crazy. In 2013, I was the first

0:46:13 > 0:46:19African woman to medal, so to be able to do this boar years later

0:46:19 > 0:46:26after every I have been through is unbelievable.So what is next?My

0:46:26 > 0:46:31coach wants me to focus on the 200 metres this year. I don't like it

0:46:31 > 0:46:35too much, but it makes my 100 metres better, so I will go back and do

0:46:35 > 0:46:39some heavy training.I'm sure you will carry forward wonderful

0:46:39 > 0:46:45experiences here.Thank you so much for having me, I appreciate it.St

0:46:45 > 0:46:52Patrick's Day is coming up soon, so if you fancy it a visit to Dublin!

0:46:52 > 0:46:59Thank you. Let's get back out there for the third and final semifinal of

0:46:59 > 0:47:04these women's 60 metres hurdles. COMMENTATOR: United States have two

0:47:04 > 0:47:09from two so far, Christina Manning and Kendra Harrison winning so far

0:47:09 > 0:47:18can Shinnie canal -- Sherrock

0:47:19 > 0:47:22can Shinnie canal -- Sherrock Nelvis do it as well? Overall this is a

0:47:22 > 0:47:25very strong event, the 60 hurdles, and there is the line-up for this

0:47:25 > 0:47:28one.

0:47:31 > 0:47:39Sharika Nelvis certainly the athlete to watch in lane three, two go

0:47:39 > 0:47:42through automatically, and I would stick minor character and say that

0:47:42 > 0:47:58the fastest losers might be OK with 7.91 and 7.92. Eline Berings, still

0:47:58 > 0:48:01running close to eight seconds. I think you will have to go below

0:48:01 > 0:48:09eight seconds. Mrs Rita Hurske of Finland. And the fastest in the

0:48:09 > 0:48:21world this year, 7.70 she has run, two hundreds outside the world

0:48:21 > 0:48:27record. Isabelle Pedersen equalled her personal best in the first

0:48:27 > 0:48:34round. Stephanie Bendrat at, the Austrian champion, usually a quick

0:48:34 > 0:48:46starter. And Nadine Visser, won the European under 21 title last year.

0:48:46 > 0:48:56Another one who is a good multi-event, Karolina Koleczek of

0:48:56 > 0:49:07Poland, silver in the European under 23s.

0:49:07 > 0:49:1323s. And Andrea Ivancevic in the outside lane. So, two to go through,

0:49:13 > 0:49:19and we have had two very clean races so far. The fastest losers at the

0:49:19 > 0:49:28moment, and only two will go through, they are Amusan of Nigeria.

0:49:34 > 0:49:36Sharika Nelvis has watched her team-mates Manning and Harrison go

0:49:36 > 0:49:43through. She will try and take her place in the final. That is just

0:49:43 > 0:49:51before nine o'clock this evening.

0:49:51 > 0:49:59The last semifinal in the women's 60 metres hurdles.

0:50:02 > 0:50:10A good start by Isabelle Pedersen, and also by that rat. And under

0:50:10 > 0:50:15pressure here, that was close, and Sharika Nelvis almost eased back on

0:50:15 > 0:50:20the line. 7.83 for the winner, so all three will go through, but what

0:50:20 > 0:50:28a run for Nadine Visser. She has been running well, but 7.83, that is

0:50:28 > 0:50:33a big personal best for the Dutch athlete. And Stephanie Bendrat and

0:50:33 > 0:50:42Sharika Nelvis as well. I think Nelvis knew that she was going to go

0:50:42 > 0:50:45through, but down into second place there. What a run from Nadine

0:50:45 > 0:50:51Visser, Nelvis has more to spare, but that was a good race.It was,

0:50:51 > 0:50:58can you imagine when read the others into that? Nelvis look like she

0:50:58 > 0:51:04clattered that first hurdle. No, she clears that one well. It was in lane

0:51:04 > 0:51:08two, that caused that upset for her. She never got into the groove, I

0:51:08 > 0:51:13thought she had made a mistake early on. To accelerate through, chilled

0:51:13 > 0:51:17at the end that is a risk to take when people are right your.Pedersen

0:51:17 > 0:51:26and Visser have run good personal races. They really pushed Nelvis all

0:51:26 > 0:51:31the way. This is what we like to see, people arriving at these

0:51:31 > 0:51:34championships coming into great form, making competitive races right

0:51:34 > 0:51:39the way through. This is going to be a red-hot final. And that run by

0:51:39 > 0:51:43Isabelle Pedersen in third place is going to knock out Sally Pearson,

0:51:43 > 0:51:47because she will go through, Isabelle Pedersen, with Amusan as

0:51:47 > 0:51:54the fastest loser.

0:51:54 > 0:51:57the fastest loser. It was a good run by Visser to make sure things, and

0:51:57 > 0:52:03she goes through with Sharika Nelvis.

0:52:03 > 0:52:09Let's have a look at Nelvis from here. She is the fastest woman in

0:52:09 > 0:52:12the world, remember. Works fast into that first hurdle. Takes it well,

0:52:12 > 0:52:18and I think she didn't look as aggressive as the other two Arican

0:52:18 > 0:52:23-- Americans coming off the barriers. I think she has a lot more

0:52:23 > 0:52:29in the tank, if I'm honest, and I think this is just a little sign

0:52:29 > 0:52:32that she is going to say, I can still run 7.8 and I will cruise

0:52:32 > 0:52:36through.And I'm glad I stuck my neck out and said I thought that

0:52:36 > 0:52:41Sally Pearson would be fine, she is not, she is gone, because Isabelle

0:52:41 > 0:52:50Pedersen ran a great personal best to go through. This, Nelvis and

0:52:50 > 0:52:52Pedersen are all qualified, but Sally Pearson is not true. She is

0:52:52 > 0:52:57focused on the Commonwealth Games, but she would have loved to have

0:52:57 > 0:53:01been in the final here. Not quite an form to challenge here, but once you

0:53:01 > 0:53:06are into the finals, you never know, and those are the women who will

0:53:06 > 0:53:11contest the final later on this evening.

0:53:11 > 0:53:16Thank you, Andrew. Let's pick the bones out of that lot, and we talk

0:53:16 > 0:53:23about the differences with 60 metres, 100 metres, but would you

0:53:23 > 0:53:27say the 60 metres indoors is a more true reflection of the long event in

0:53:27 > 0:53:32terms of their is not as much advantage?I think the 60 metres

0:53:32 > 0:53:34hurdles on the 100 metres hurdles are very similar, I do think there

0:53:34 > 0:53:39is much of a difference at all.Do we see more of the usual names?

0:53:39 > 0:53:45Exactly. I don't think that a better start in the hurdles will have an

0:53:45 > 0:53:50advantage over someone who is not as good a start in the hurdles. I think

0:53:50 > 0:53:53the hurdlers who are more mistake prone will have an advantage at 60

0:53:53 > 0:54:01because it is fewer hurdles, you don't have as much opportunity...

0:54:01 > 0:54:03And I think taking into account the speed and endurance

0:54:03 > 0:54:07And I think taking into account the speed and endurance element at the

0:54:07 > 0:54:13end of hurdles eight, nine and ten. I am thinking of Tiffany Porter at

0:54:13 > 0:54:17this moment in time, fantastic indoors, clean and strong up to the

0:54:17 > 0:54:21eighth hurdle, but sometimes you see her tiring, I think fatigue kicks

0:54:21 > 0:54:25in. But you have got to start indoors, you have got to be strong

0:54:25 > 0:54:30and get that first hurdle cleanly. Let's go through the heats in order,

0:54:30 > 0:54:33then. Christina Manning in the first heat, Michael.

0:54:33 > 0:54:36then. Christina Manning in the first heat, Michael.Think she feels there

0:54:36 > 0:54:42is something to prove that this championships.

0:54:42 > 0:54:45championships. She was able to get in here by her performance on the

0:54:45 > 0:54:51circuit. And she ran very, very clean here, she did well through the

0:54:51 > 0:54:54rounds and is really determined, very clean through this race and

0:54:54 > 0:54:57seem to control it from the very beginning all the way through to the

0:54:57 > 0:55:04end. So she certainly will figure into the medals. Third fastest time

0:55:04 > 0:55:09this year of all the 60 metres hurdles women, and it's not about

0:55:09 > 0:55:14times, though. It is about place. And I think she feels that she has a

0:55:14 > 0:55:17real opportunity. With her time she will be in the middle of the track,

0:55:17 > 0:55:20and the other Americans will be there along with a Visser in the

0:55:20 > 0:55:25middle.She is making up for lost time, she had a couple of years of

0:55:25 > 0:55:31injury, but since last

0:55:37 > 0:55:39year, and definitely indoors, she has look formidable. And how great

0:55:39 > 0:55:43to have her here because she did so well in the circuit, she got a bonus

0:55:43 > 0:55:45play, see you don't want any of the American athletes to miss out on

0:55:45 > 0:55:49this stage. The second heat, and the greatest of all in terms of world

0:55:49 > 0:55:51records, that is Kenny Harrison.A little jump in the blocks, but she's

0:55:51 > 0:55:53always smooth, came under a little bit of pressure on that first hurdle

0:55:53 > 0:55:58from Sally Pearson, but acquitted herself well. She is so quick

0:55:58 > 0:56:00between the hurdles, just unbelievable, she was able to

0:56:00 > 0:56:07overcome that slight deficit to the first hurdle, just a little bit

0:56:07 > 0:56:10quicker, but then Kenny Harrison just able to make up ground in

0:56:10 > 0:56:16between the hurdles, because she is just so quick and so fast. But she

0:56:16 > 0:56:20has had problems in the past, not able to make the Olympic team in

0:56:20 > 0:56:232016 when she was overwhelming favourite last year out of the

0:56:23 > 0:56:28medals at the World Championships, coming into that championship. So I

0:56:28 > 0:56:36think similar to a KJT situation, you want that global medal, and this

0:56:36 > 0:56:39is an opportunity for her.Coming through the rounds.To acquit

0:56:39 > 0:56:47herself of some of those demons. And backing up that time, superfast.

0:56:47 > 0:56:50Sally Pearson and Kenny, you see they are both two technically

0:56:50 > 0:56:56proficient hurdlers, and Sally was able to raise her game, so it was a

0:56:56 > 0:57:01little bit much like a revenge race for those two, and Kenny came out on

0:57:01 > 0:57:05top. She is looking dangerous for me.She is looking great, and I

0:57:05 > 0:57:08think this may be a good situation for her, because she doesn't come

0:57:08 > 0:57:12into this with the fastest time, so maybe Sharika Nelvis who we saw in

0:57:12 > 0:57:18the next heat came in with a fastest time, 7.70 four the year, that might

0:57:18 > 0:57:23have taken the pressure off Kenny.I think so, because it is that final

0:57:23 > 0:57:27when there's fast girls are lined up, can she keep her composure.

0:57:27 > 0:57:33Let's have a look and complete the triptych. Nadine Visser looks like

0:57:33 > 0:57:37the one perhaps who could be breaking up the American dominance.

0:57:37 > 0:57:49I think not only this but also leader from Germany. If you

0:57:52 > 0:57:53leader from Germany. If you look at this, she looks like she is running

0:57:53 > 0:57:57with the handbrake, and I know Colin Jackson suggested she was holding

0:57:57 > 0:58:02something back, but she doesn't look as confident as she has so far this

0:58:02 > 0:58:05season, so I am just wondering how she is going to get her mind in the

0:58:05 > 0:58:08right place to deliver yet another devastating performance.I will ask

0:58:08 > 0:58:16you to pick your one, two, three for me later on. The final is five to

0:58:16 > 0:58:21nine, but we are now entering into the men's heats, and plenty of

0:58:21 > 0:58:28Easter come. -- plenty of these to come. The first has a Brit involved,

0:58:28 > 0:58:36Jonathan King.

0:58:37 > 0:58:43I think Dave King will think he has a good chance of going through here,

0:58:43 > 0:58:51we have one nonstarter, the athlete from Iraq not in this. King is in

0:58:51 > 0:58:56four.

0:58:57 > 0:59:05four. This is Milan Trajkovic from Cyprus, won earlier this year, has

0:59:05 > 0:59:10been very good on the circuit. Nicholas Hough just missed out on a

0:59:10 > 0:59:15medal in Glasgow.

0:59:16 > 0:59:22medal in Glasgow. Zebroski from Poland, and then David King. UK

0:59:22 > 0:59:29outdoor champion last year, second in the indoor Championships.

0:59:34 > 0:59:43And then Vladimir Vukicevic from nor me, and Aurel Manga, had a chance in

0:59:43 > 0:59:49what could be an open event. Smit from the Netherlands, the Dutch

0:59:49 > 0:59:54champion. So, top four to go through here. If you look on times, they are

0:59:54 > 0:59:59certainly in the mix, but it is going to be close. It depends on who

0:59:59 > 1:00:08delivers the performance here. Hough has not run indoors, the Australian.

1:00:39 > 1:00:44King may well qualify. 7.57. He continues what has been a good

1:00:44 > 1:00:49season. He got a reasonable start. King got a good start in the middle.

1:00:49 > 1:00:54There was one or two hitting hurdles. Hough didn't perform well.

1:00:54 > 1:01:00Well done David King, into the semi-final. The winning time 7.56.

1:01:00 > 1:01:07He will be pleased, he was on the edge on paper for qualification.Yes

1:01:07 > 1:01:12I was talking to a journalist about his potential and I said he has been

1:01:12 > 1:01:17good. And being in that outside lane, you can concentrate and get

1:01:17 > 1:01:25away from the mess happening. There is a lot of hurdles being clattered

1:01:25 > 1:01:29and David King managed to do that. But it was a fast race. For me, I

1:01:29 > 1:01:34think David maybe a bit disappointed he didn't get closer to the top end,

1:01:34 > 1:01:39get closer to that 7.60 mark. But I think that may be enough. I'm going

1:01:39 > 1:01:44to keep scanning down and see exactly where he is for

1:01:44 > 1:01:56qualification.He makes it through in the top four, Collin,. He is not

1:01:56 > 1:02:08quite at the top. Was he hampered. Zebrowski was clattering hurdles.

1:02:08 > 1:02:12When people clatter hurdles, they come into you and you naturally

1:02:12 > 1:02:17extend your stride and then you literally have to jump to it clear

1:02:17 > 1:02:23it. David could have suffered from that. But he is through. 7.69 his

1:02:23 > 1:02:30time. He is with JJ.You're through, how do you feel?It was good.

1:02:30 > 1:02:35Executed pretty well. I just needed more urgency over the first. But I

1:02:35 > 1:02:40did what I needed to do. So I'm happy.Coming into this you said

1:02:40 > 1:02:45consistency was key, did you feel consistent?Yes definitely.

1:02:45 > 1:02:50Something I struggled with last year. I dropped a time last year.

1:02:50 > 1:02:55But this year I'm consistently in the 7.6s and looking for that drop

1:02:55 > 1:03:03now and if I time it right hopefully it will come.It your first World

1:03:03 > 1:03:08Championships, how is it living up to your expectations? It's great. I

1:03:08 > 1:03:12have always loved coming to Birmingham. Now with a big home

1:03:12 > 1:03:15crowd it is incredible.Thank you for talking to us. Best of luck

1:03:15 > 1:03:23tomorrow.One or two won't be happy. Hough did get a personal best and

1:03:23 > 1:03:28I'm told he is in the Australian team for the Commonwealth Games in

1:03:28 > 1:03:35April.

1:03:44 > 1:03:53Some pole vault action getting under way and Sandi Morris about to jump.

1:03:53 > 1:03:57We have Stefanidi, the Greek athlete. We enjoyed watching her

1:03:57 > 1:04:07jump in Glasgow. And Nageotte is there. These events have been

1:04:07 > 1:04:11competitive and this looks as though it is going to go that way. Sandi

1:04:11 > 1:04:19Morris. 4.50.

1:04:19 > 1:04:23Morris. 4.50. That is a brilliant clearance. A succession of silver

1:04:23 > 1:04:34medals for Morris at world and Olympic level. A good start for her.

1:04:35 > 1:04:41Eliza McCartney has had Achilles problems. But that is a good start.

1:04:41 > 1:04:48Also the Olympic bronze medal fris Rio. Big -- bronze-medallist from

1:04:48 > 1:04:59Rio. Here is a previous world champion. Silva, world champion in

1:04:59 > 1:05:052015. So these early heights just to sort out your run up, get rid of the

1:05:05 > 1:05:09nerves maybe. But Silva under pressure. Has that stayed on? It

1:05:09 > 1:05:18does. It is a successful clearance. But needs a bit of a tidy up.

1:05:18 > 1:05:24They're the main protagonists. We haven't seen Stefanidi yesterday.

1:05:24 > 1:05:32The Greek athlete is the favourite. Now to the men's 60 metres hurdles.

1:05:32 > 1:05:38Here is how they line up.

1:05:50 > 1:05:54Baji ran a clean race to win bronze at the World Championships last

1:05:54 > 1:06:02year. Thomas of Trinidad & Tobago. He has been around a long time. 30

1:06:02 > 1:06:10now. But a new personal best this season.

1:06:10 > 1:06:19season. Czykier. And there is Ben Reynolds from Ireland. He goes in

1:06:19 > 1:06:28lane 5 alongside, well, I was going to say the fastest in the world.

1:06:28 > 1:06:37Jarrett Eaton starts favourite. Parokhonka of Belarus and Iribarne

1:06:37 > 1:06:45of Cuba has been running well this season. I said Jarrett Eaton is the

1:06:45 > 1:06:51favourite, but he was going so well and then hit a barrier and didn't

1:06:51 > 1:06:56finish in Glasgow last weekend. Shortly after taking the US title.

1:06:56 > 1:07:01He will want a clean run to feel his way back in. You see some great

1:07:01 > 1:07:07names down there.

1:07:07 > 1:07:11names down there. Robles and Holloway, who can forget them?

1:07:11 > 1:07:20LAUGHTER.Four to go through automatically.

1:07:27 > 1:07:36Cleanly away and Eaton out strongly. Thomas is all over the shop. Coming

1:07:36 > 1:07:44through is Iribarne. Eaton takes from it Iribarne. That is what Eaton

1:07:44 > 1:07:50wanted after that run in Glasgow, because he had been going so well,

1:07:50 > 1:07:53took the US title and hit that barrier and it can play with your

1:07:53 > 1:08:00mind a bit. To have a decent run, all that he was wanting. He probably

1:08:00 > 1:08:03had a good warm up preparing for this after the mishap of Glasgow. I

1:08:03 > 1:08:08will say. When he smashed the hurdle and hit the deck. You need that bit

1:08:08 > 1:08:12of a confidence-run. Even when you have been running well all year. You

1:08:12 > 1:08:15need to remind yourself about the barriers and sometimes how they can

1:08:15 > 1:08:23give you a bit of a bite if you don't do them well.Watch Thomas

1:08:23 > 1:08:28second from the right, he tries to bound to the first barrier and boom,

1:08:28 > 1:08:33your race is gone.Of all the hurdlers he is the shortest I know,

1:08:33 > 1:08:38but he is powerful. When you get it wrong, you end up in problems like

1:08:38 > 1:08:49that.We saw the name of Robles and Iribarne maybe another great Cuban

1:08:49 > 1:08:55talent coming through. Reynolds couldn't get quite there. We have

1:08:55 > 1:09:00been looking at the strength of women's hurdling from the United

1:09:00 > 1:09:10States and Eaton laying down a marker here. So the

1:09:26 > 1:09:34This athlete has made a big break through. Katie Nageotte. Carries a

1:09:34 > 1:09:40foul here though. Tidies that up nicely at 4.50. A bit of a wobbly

1:09:40 > 1:09:51start. Under a bit of pressure. Big smiles from her. World leader.

1:09:51 > 1:09:54smiles from her. World leader. The youngest competitor in the field,

1:09:54 > 1:09:57Nina Kennedy, just 20 years of age. Getting close to her lifetime best

1:09:57 > 1:10:07now. 4.60. Oh, yes. A shriek from her! She is pleased with that. The

1:10:07 > 1:10:13Australian goes into the lead with that.

1:10:13 > 1:10:18that. Some athletes with bigger potential to come. Nina Kennedy,

1:10:18 > 1:10:24great vaulting there. Clean plant. Rocked back. Good drive upwards. All

1:10:24 > 1:10:33in line. Good balance.

1:10:33 > 1:10:38in line. Good balance. Eliza McCartney. No-heighted at her last

1:10:38 > 1:10:43competition. Bronze-medallist in Rio. Surprise bronze-medallist. A

1:10:43 > 1:10:48big break through that was for her.

1:10:48 > 1:10:52What a good clearance that was. Came down on it and gave it a wobble. But

1:10:52 > 1:10:57only because the bar was not quite in the right place. Seemed to have

1:10:57 > 1:11:03plenty of height.

1:11:04 > 1:11:06plenty of height. McCartney joins Kennedy, the Kiwi and the Australian

1:11:06 > 1:11:13both going very nicely indeed. But we still wait for Stefanidi. The

1:11:13 > 1:11:21Olympic and world champion. To join the competition.

1:11:21 > 1:11:25the competition. McCartney only came in on Monday. Shook off a bit of jet

1:11:25 > 1:11:35lag. So as we turn our attention to a previous world champion. Silva,

1:11:35 > 1:11:38now 30 years of age.

1:11:42 > 1:11:48This is her first competition this winter. A clean plant and oh, yes.

1:11:48 > 1:11:54Kind of stretching everything out of that. She is gripping down on the

1:11:54 > 1:11:58top of the pole. What I mean is her top hand, there is a lot of pole

1:11:58 > 1:12:02behind it. In doing that, gripping lower on that pole, it makes it

1:12:02 > 1:12:09stiffer. So again checking where her left foot it. Previously they were

1:12:09 > 1:12:17concerned where her takeoff position was.

1:12:17 > 1:12:26Now the next heat of 60-metre hurdles.

1:12:28 > 1:12:32hurdles. Ronald Levy ran 7. 49 winning in Glasgow. That put him in

1:12:32 > 1:12:38contention. As a possible medallist, if not the gold-medallist. Who

1:12:38 > 1:12:47knows? A long way to do for all of that. First four will do through.

1:12:47 > 1:12:55Contreras of Spain.

1:13:00 > 1:13:03Contreras moved from Cuba to represent Spain a couple of years

1:13:03 > 1:13:08ago.

1:13:08 > 1:13:19ago. The Spanish champion. Dahl Molin. Close to going sub 13 seconds

1:13:19 > 1:13:28last year outdoors. Maholtra of Indonesia.

1:13:32 > 1:13:41Indonesia. Contan stantino of Brazil. Javier McFarlane hopes

1:13:45 > 1:13:52He hopes to usurp his brother in this event. Thingalaya has a good

1:13:52 > 1:14:00chance here. A couple of performances in the United States.

1:14:00 > 1:14:05Given himself a season's best of 7.83. Its more experience as well

1:14:05 > 1:14:11which counts for a lot. This man, although he has only had one indoor

1:14:11 > 1:14:18race this year, it was good enough to impress a lot of people.

1:14:18 > 1:14:24Constantino of Brazil and McFarlane of Peru, the South American

1:14:24 > 1:14:33representatives will have something to say about qualification here.

1:14:48 > 1:14:59They get away safely, it is a good start.

1:15:00 > 1:15:117.62, Al-Molad wins it. And Leavy, sometimes I think when it looks so

1:15:11 > 1:15:14easy to qualify, you should be winning your heat. If he wants to be

1:15:14 > 1:15:23a medal contender, he should, even though Al-Molad ran well, you should

1:15:23 > 1:15:27be winning your heat, getting into the winning habit. You do want to

1:15:27 > 1:15:31win your heat, because it makes things a little more complicated

1:15:31 > 1:15:36later on, when they do the new draw, you could end up in a loaded

1:15:36 > 1:15:41semifinal. But Levy did make a mistake going into that barrier, and

1:15:41 > 1:15:45that could have cost of a little. When you get dragged back for

1:15:45 > 1:15:47hurdle, it is really off-putting because it takes you out of your

1:15:47 > 1:15:52rhythm. He is going well, but he catches that barrier with the top of

1:15:52 > 1:15:56his hamstring and his trail leg, and it just pulls him back and causes

1:15:56 > 1:16:03him a little bit of grief. He is tall and rangy, seven strides going

1:16:03 > 1:16:08into this barrier, takes it well, he is lovely and fluid when he gets it

1:16:08 > 1:16:12right, and I know there has been a real buzz about him in training, but

1:16:12 > 1:16:16you see how he caught that with the back of his hamstring, it causes his

1:16:16 > 1:16:22hips to drop. You lose so much speed when you do that. A little rusty,

1:16:22 > 1:16:28but he will get that out of the way. I have a question for you. Let's

1:16:28 > 1:16:34concentrate on the guy who wins this, Al-Molad. He is hurdling so

1:16:34 > 1:16:40close to the others, is he hurdling the wrong hurdler? He is swinging

1:16:40 > 1:16:44his lead leg a little bit around his barrier, but where he will come into

1:16:44 > 1:16:47trouble later on when are people next to him running at the same

1:16:47 > 1:16:53pace. He is quite slight and may get beat up.We will watch for that. He

1:16:53 > 1:17:05is through, there are the top men, Levy and Contreras join him.

1:17:05 > 1:17:12So, Sandi Morris, perfect job so far, just that one attempt at 24.50,

1:17:12 > 1:17:19just one attempt needed. Super job, possibly the best we have seen so

1:17:19 > 1:17:24far, good clearance from Sandi Morris, still kind of jockeying for

1:17:24 > 1:17:32position. We expect the medals to go for 80 plus. Sandi Morris is

1:17:32 > 1:17:35certainly a contender. Certainly by the margin of this clearance, it

1:17:35 > 1:17:43would suggest that. She is way over that. So, Sandi Morris going strong.

1:17:47 > 1:17:51Sadly, Great Britain's Holly Bradshaw who we would have loved to

1:17:51 > 1:17:54see competing here, injured at the moment. We hope she will be back for

1:17:54 > 1:18:04the Commonwealth Games. Next up, a man who has had his fair share of

1:18:04 > 1:18:08injuries, didn't quite carry his early speed through when he won his

1:18:08 > 1:18:14European title, but this is another big opportunity for him. He is drawn

1:18:14 > 1:18:19in lane eight, and I wonder if in the hurdles that is a good thing to

1:18:19 > 1:18:22be away from any potential trouble in the middle?I like to think he is

1:18:22 > 1:18:27focusing on his lane and getting out. As long as he runs a smooth

1:18:27 > 1:18:31race, whatever lane you are in shouldn't really make a difference.

1:18:31 > 1:18:36It is nice to be in the middle, but this allows him to focus on his

1:18:36 > 1:18:41lane, he has got what should be a comfortable qualification. And merit

1:18:41 > 1:18:45is there, the world record-holder outdoors.Hopefully his mental state

1:18:45 > 1:18:49is in a good place. When he got back to the hotel after the morning

1:18:49 > 1:18:54session, he went out for a relaxing walk, he looked very relaxed. This

1:18:54 > 1:18:59is a very open event right now, so I think his opportunity is right there

1:18:59 > 1:19:04in front of him for him to grab, and he will have Merritt in his heat,

1:19:04 > 1:19:07but I don't think there is anyone else who will give him a real

1:19:07 > 1:19:11problem. He just has to get clean through this round and get to the

1:19:11 > 1:19:14next one, and that is where it will crank up a little bit and you will

1:19:14 > 1:19:17have to be more competitive.Andrew Cotter has this one.

1:19:17 > 1:19:25ANDREW COTTER: Thank you. Andy Pozzi, a lot of spectators have come

1:19:25 > 1:19:31to see how he fares this evening, a big talent, and also a very popular

1:19:31 > 1:19:42man is a Aries Merritt, very popular American in lane four.

1:19:47 > 1:20:05Here is chill one -- Cheung from China, Aries Merritt, what a

1:20:05 > 1:20:13wonderful hurdler he is, few have had as good a season as he has,

1:20:13 > 1:20:20world record outdoors. Getting back to that sort of form as well. Al

1:20:20 > 1:20:26Mandeel alongside him has

1:20:26 > 1:20:31Mandeel alongside him has just won the Asian championship.

1:20:33 > 1:20:38the Asian championship. Xie took over the mantle of Chinese champion.

1:20:38 > 1:20:44And Pozzi takes the roar of the crowd. He has been close to medals

1:20:44 > 1:20:48in 2012 and 2014, a lot of injury problems since then. Last year,

1:20:48 > 1:20:52European indoor champion, but didn't quite get it right at the World

1:20:52 > 1:21:01Championships in London. So, highs and lows last year, looking to start

1:21:01 > 1:21:07his season well. Great performance at the world indoors. But Aries

1:21:07 > 1:21:13Merritt after his great year in 2012, ran 7.43 indoors then, 7.46

1:21:13 > 1:21:21this season, so not too far away after all his health issues.

1:21:21 > 1:21:32So, Cheung on the inside, then Douvalidis. Pozzi is in lane eight,

1:21:32 > 1:21:34four to go through automatically, one more seat after this.

1:21:41 > 1:21:45Cleanly away again, and Aries Merritt very strong, Pozzi going

1:21:45 > 1:21:52well, they are clean at the moment. Douvalidis going well, and it is

1:21:52 > 1:21:587.54, a very smooth run from Andrew Pozzi, no troubles at all and he

1:21:58 > 1:22:02looks sharp. He ran a cleanly, and a smile from Aries Merritt, who will

1:22:02 > 1:22:07also go through. He will have more to spare, didn't quite get it right

1:22:07 > 1:22:15on that occasion. Balnuweit was going well as well. He has seasons

1:22:15 > 1:22:22best time indoors, Pozzi, and that is the way to do it, Colin.Yes, no

1:22:22 > 1:22:27messing about from Andrew Pozzi. He is out on his own, lane eight, can

1:22:27 > 1:22:30just concentrate on the barrier in front of him. He knows he is in

1:22:30 > 1:22:36great shape. He has really not done as much racing as he would like to

1:22:36 > 1:22:40have done, but it really doesn't show here. He has come with a

1:22:40 > 1:22:44season's best, exactly what you want from your British athletes. There he

1:22:44 > 1:22:49is on the left of the screen, drives hard, seven strides to that first

1:22:49 > 1:22:55hurdle. A little bit of rock and roll as he comes off hurdle four,

1:22:55 > 1:22:58but no worries, he is safely through.

1:22:58 > 1:23:07Let's have another look at it out of the blocks, and

1:23:07 > 1:23:10the blocks, and again, Xie on his left, but he has freed around him.

1:23:10 > 1:23:14That is a luxury on these first rounds where you can concentrate on

1:23:14 > 1:23:18your own race. He has done a good warm up and this is a one-off race,

1:23:18 > 1:23:21but he clattered that barrier just with his ankle, and that tugs you

1:23:21 > 1:23:30back a little bit. So on reflection, season's best, 7.53, with those

1:23:30 > 1:23:36little mistakes, that is a very good run.

1:23:37 > 1:23:40Andrew, not mucking about? No, I have said it every time we have

1:23:40 > 1:23:43spoken, I am in good nick and I'm coming into these championships in

1:23:43 > 1:23:48good shape, and I just had a great time out there, really enjoyable.

1:23:48 > 1:23:53What about your drawer, lane eight, didn't affect you?No, it's fine, it

1:23:53 > 1:23:56is just such an amazing atmosphere in this The Hive Stadium. I have

1:23:56 > 1:24:02raced out of lane nine before. Actually with this arena, no, it is

1:24:02 > 1:24:08no problem. You have raced in every lane here, because you have grown up

1:24:08 > 1:24:13here.At least a decade, and a lot of big milestones in my career have

1:24:13 > 1:24:18been here, so I'm just delighted to be here, and that was a good first

1:24:18 > 1:24:23run. I maybe got too close to four, and just tipped it, but it was nice

1:24:23 > 1:24:28to be relaxed.Quick word about your team, you had your best man's speech

1:24:28 > 1:24:34at the beginning of this, how do you feel it is going?I am loving it. I

1:24:34 > 1:24:38have been watching mainly from the hotel, but they are just incredible.

1:24:38 > 1:24:44So many performances, and everyone in that team has conducted

1:24:44 > 1:24:48themselves amazingly, so it has really been good to watch.Thank you

1:24:48 > 1:24:51for speaking to me, best of luck tomorrow.

1:24:51 > 1:24:57That is a good run for Pozzi, he goes through with Aries Merritt and

1:24:57 > 1:25:08Douvalidis and Balmy

1:25:08 > 1:25:11-- Balnuweit. He led like a captain, and that was

1:25:11 > 1:25:16a very good heat indeed. Denise, that is what you want at a major

1:25:16 > 1:25:19championship, a seasons best, to raise your game, he can rest up

1:25:19 > 1:25:24tonight, semis and finals tomorrow, you were impressed?I was, he looked

1:25:24 > 1:25:29good. Rattled a few hurdles, but confidence, exude in confidence and

1:25:29 > 1:25:34really drawing from the crowd. He talks about important this stadium

1:25:34 > 1:25:40is in his life and his career. It was a good start and he was very

1:25:40 > 1:25:45clear and handled this the way we expected. He wasn't going to get a

1:25:45 > 1:25:51lot of pressure from anyone, you can see Xie hit that hurdle, but he was

1:25:51 > 1:25:54still able to get himself through to the next round. Andrew really

1:25:54 > 1:25:58getting through this with no mistakes, taking his time, being

1:25:58 > 1:26:03patient, doing what he needs to do. I'm sure he understands and knows

1:26:03 > 1:26:05that that next round will crank up and he will need to be ready, but

1:26:05 > 1:26:10that should give him some confidence, finishing ahead of Aries

1:26:10 > 1:26:14Merritt and running a really clean race through this first round. And

1:26:14 > 1:26:22let's go to the next heat, shall we? Steve Cram, and Pascal

1:26:22 > 1:26:29Martinot-Lagarde in this one, the Frenchman is still only 26, and I

1:26:29 > 1:26:35feel like he has been here for a long time.

1:26:35 > 1:26:41Yes, he is walking around like he was 86, at first I thought he was

1:26:41 > 1:26:42hurt, gingerly walking around, busy just getting himself prepared

1:26:42 > 1:26:49mentally. He is a big unit, and he is very good at this event indoors

1:26:49 > 1:26:56as well as outdoors, of course. Fourth at the Olympic Games and in

1:26:56 > 1:27:00the World Championships back in 2015. He has these injury problems,

1:27:00 > 1:27:04probably hasn't been able to fulfil all of his potential, but he is

1:27:04 > 1:27:07lining up here against a think maybe one of the toughest of the heats,

1:27:07 > 1:27:18and he should be a cake, but you have Masuno, love it, Joseph,

1:27:18 > 1:27:25Svoboda.

1:27:25 > 1:27:27Svoboda. Masuno hasn't run indoors yet this year, semifinalist

1:27:27 > 1:27:35outdoors. This man, as I said, had a silver medal at these world indoor

1:27:35 > 1:27:39Championships on the last two occasions, would love to go one

1:27:39 > 1:27:46better here. Eddie Lovett from the US Virgin Islands. And the man from

1:27:46 > 1:27:48Switzerland, Jason Joseph, European junior champion last year, he is

1:27:48 > 1:27:54only 19. Svoboda, the European indoor champion a few years back,

1:27:54 > 1:28:00came back and picked up a bronze medal, a surprise bronze medal, with

1:28:00 > 1:28:11good performances. Fofana of Italy, and then Jonathan Cabral, knew from

1:28:11 > 1:28:20the USA, hurdling for Canada. Tough to make the US team.

1:28:21 > 1:28:23to make the US team. Tevenino in lane eight. So, just to remind you,

1:28:23 > 1:28:29top four to go

1:28:29 > 1:28:36top four to go through, 7.77, that is the so far fastest losers.

1:28:36 > 1:28:44So, Martinot-Lagarde will spring into action here. 7.54 is his

1:28:44 > 1:28:50season's best. He hasn't run under 7.50 in his career, but he is

1:28:50 > 1:28:52perfectly capable of getting in amongst things.

1:29:10 > 1:29:15Martinot-Lagarde gets a cracking start, Svoboda going well in the

1:29:15 > 1:29:19middle. Cabral of Canada coming through, but it is Martinot-Lagarde

1:29:19 > 1:29:27of Canada who will win it from tech Maxwell and Svoboda -- from Cabral

1:29:27 > 1:29:32and Svoboda. When he is going well, Martinot-Lagarde, he is going to be

1:29:32 > 1:29:39a handful. I'm not sure there are any outright favourites in this, but

1:29:39 > 1:29:43we saw Andrew run very well in the previous heat. A lot of familiar

1:29:43 > 1:29:47names, Colin. The most important thing here is to be able to handle

1:29:47 > 1:29:51the pressure. If you can do that and run a clean, smooth race, sometimes

1:29:51 > 1:29:55it may be the sensible thing just come off the pedal a little bit to

1:29:55 > 1:29:59make sure you have a clean run, because when it comes down to it,

1:29:59 > 1:30:02right at the end, it will be the person who is the smoothest,

1:30:02 > 1:30:09cleanest run who will take this title. Let's have a look at Pascal.

1:30:09 > 1:30:14He is one of the few Europeans who has gone under 13 seconds outdoors.

1:30:14 > 1:30:20No real pressure on this, he is not coming in as French champion, he was

1:30:20 > 1:30:23runner-up in their trials, so the him to come here now, he can ease

1:30:23 > 1:30:26his way through it uses reputation and the fact that he is good, he has

1:30:26 > 1:30:32a bit of class about him, to see him through these early rounds.

1:30:32 > 1:30:38Does his height hinder him. He is very hunched when he runs. He can't

1:30:38 > 1:30:45use his full height.Every hurdler has his own style and you take the

1:30:45 > 1:30:50barriers the way you can do it. The way your body is designed. His

1:30:50 > 1:30:56technique is not trained. That is the way he does it.OK, we'll take

1:30:56 > 1:31:02that! He is not trained! Let's just, we are waiting for the result and

1:31:02 > 1:31:12now to the pole vault. This is Sidorova, the Russian cleared to

1:31:12 > 1:31:17compete as a neutral athlete. It is her opening height.

1:31:18 > 1:31:26That is good. Very good indeed.

1:31:26 > 1:31:33She has jumped 4.87 this year. In really good shape. Throws her hat in

1:31:33 > 1:31:37the ring as another contender. It will go down to a real battle

1:31:37 > 1:31:45between four or five athletes. Including Katie Nageotte. She has

1:31:45 > 1:31:52shown she can compete.

1:31:55 > 1:32:07Very nicely indeed. First time clearance that. Looking comfortable.

1:32:08 > 1:32:09The next height 4.70.

1:32:12 > 1:32:20The result of that fifth heat we saw 7.6 #2shgs Martinot-Lagarde's

1:32:20 > 1:32:27winning time.

1:32:30 > 1:32:39Fairly straight forward in term of qualification, nice to see Pozzi is

1:32:39 > 1:32:50heading up the qualifying. He is heading the qualifiers.

1:32:50 > 1:32:53heading the qualifiers. So many familiar names. David King making

1:32:53 > 1:32:59it. He was in the first heat. He is through to the semi-finals. That is

1:32:59 > 1:33:05when it will get tough. STUDIO: The semis and the final are

1:33:05 > 1:33:10in the final session which is tomorrow, we are on air from 2.45.

1:33:10 > 1:33:14Colin Jackson will be in the commentary box. He can have a quick

1:33:14 > 1:33:20word with us now about the heats and it is lovely to see Andy Pozzi

1:33:20 > 1:33:26running so well. Who do you think is going to be challenging him? This

1:33:26 > 1:33:33will be a close race. We saw what Jarrett did. He had a clumsy run in

1:33:33 > 1:33:39Glasgow but he has returned well. Never write off merit. Levy will be

1:33:39 > 1:33:44strong in the semi-final tomorrow. So you know at the moment for me it

1:33:44 > 1:33:52will be the person with the cleanest race, keeps their head.Assess Pozzi

1:33:52 > 1:33:56run, it looked like he got everything right?Yeah, I don't

1:33:56 > 1:34:02think Andrew needs to step up much more. The little mistakes he made,

1:34:02 > 1:34:08he got close to a couple of barriers, he can resolve that by

1:34:08 > 1:34:12doing a slightly drill session in his warm up. Although he made the

1:34:12 > 1:34:15mistakes they will cost him perhaps five or six hundredth and when it

1:34:15 > 1:34:19comes down to the final, those five or six hundredths could be crucial.

1:34:19 > 1:34:22Thank you Colin. We are going to head back to the pole vault

1:34:22 > 1:34:33competition. Because Steve Backley, the New Zealander, Eliza McCartney

1:34:33 > 1:34:40is going very well? COMMENTATOR: Yes a good day for New Zealand. But she

1:34:40 > 1:34:45has her work cut out at 4.70 now.

1:34:47 > 1:34:55There was a big bend on that and she has come down on the bar. Too much

1:34:55 > 1:35:03of this new height. I think we will see some casualties at this height.

1:35:03 > 1:35:09McCartney, mum was a gymnast. Her dad was a high jumper. That is the

1:35:09 > 1:35:18first big recipe to make a pole vaulter.

1:35:18 > 1:35:26She drifted off side ways. Needs to tidy that up a bit. First time fail

1:35:26 > 1:35:37as with all of the vertical jumps it is three consecutive fouls and

1:35:37 > 1:35:42you're out.

1:35:44 > 1:35:47you're out. Sfud STUDIO: On the track Ujah is getting

1:35:47 > 1:35:54ready for his semi-final.

1:35:54 > 1:35:58ready for his semi-final. He will want to get in the top two.He would

1:35:58 > 1:36:03want to be in the top two. If he is not, that will actually dent his

1:36:03 > 1:36:06confidence going into the final. Because that would be below par for

1:36:06 > 1:36:14him. He should be top two.

1:36:18 > 1:36:22him. He should be top two.Su will be out on him quickly. You don't

1:36:22 > 1:36:30worry about lanes at this point. It is getting through the rounds,

1:36:30 > 1:36:36running your best race. He will want to send a message that I'm here for

1:36:36 > 1:36:43medals.In terms of Su's season, because he is such a good indoor

1:36:43 > 1:36:47athlete, he will be wanting to get to the top of the rostrum. This will

1:36:47 > 1:36:50be the biggest thing he could achieve this year.I think he feels

1:36:50 > 1:36:57this is a real opportunity to win a gold medal at a Championship, at a

1:36:57 > 1:37:02World Championship. He is so consistent and goes into this and if

1:37:02 > 1:37:06he gets to the final with a lot of confidence. Because he can rely on

1:37:06 > 1:37:11his consistency. He knows that he is in that position where he just has

1:37:11 > 1:37:15to execute his best race and let the chips fall where they may. He

1:37:15 > 1:37:20doesn't make mistakes. He wouldn't have to be concerned about

1:37:20 > 1:37:24overcoming any confidence issues or thinking I have to improve. He just

1:37:24 > 1:37:33has to run his best race. Here is his heat. Focus on his start. You

1:37:33 > 1:37:38will notice diagonal angle is much better than anyone else. He is very

1:37:38 > 1:37:43focussed and efficient and very clean with his technique. Upper body

1:37:43 > 1:37:47and lower body. No wasted motion. You don't see any rocking from side

1:37:47 > 1:37:51to side. You see just power and efficiency. That is a great

1:37:51 > 1:37:59combination for him and it works really well.

1:38:01 > 1:38:08really well. From 60 to 100 outdoors he can't dupe duplicate the same

1:38:08 > 1:38:17power. Ujah, he is an outdoor athlete. He won the Diamond League

1:38:17 > 1:38:24and that was a big step up to get known among the top athletes. It was

1:38:24 > 1:38:29so consistent last season, that he got better and better. That is

1:38:29 > 1:38:34confidence that he would have gained from being the Diamond League winner

1:38:34 > 1:38:41set him in good stead. Now he wants to take that step forward. He had

1:38:41 > 1:38:47that fantastic relay run as well. But he will be looking to be

1:38:47 > 1:38:54success.They said that moment in London where they won the gold in

1:38:54 > 1:39:00the 4x100 has given them a taste of it.That is refreshing to hear.

1:39:00 > 1:39:04Unlike in America, you could live off a relay medal in this country

1:39:04 > 1:39:09and these athletes I have heard them I want more than that. This is not,

1:39:09 > 1:39:13they don't get in the sport to win the relay. It is an individual

1:39:13 > 1:39:19sport. It is refreshing to hear them say, yeah, I want more. That gave me

1:39:19 > 1:39:24confidence. Now it also made me more hungry. There is more on the table

1:39:24 > 1:39:28for them here and Steve Cram will see if Ujah can get through to the

1:39:28 > 1:39:34final. COMMENTATOR: Thankfully it is a straight line in terms of

1:39:34 > 1:39:38navigating. He just has to do it as fast as he can. Given the

1:39:38 > 1:39:42performance in qualifying, he has every chance. He looked good and

1:39:42 > 1:39:49strong. So did Su, they are the two we expect to come through. Others

1:39:49 > 1:40:00will hope they will go through. De Grace is the record holder. This is

1:40:00 > 1:40:06Rodriguez, a very experienced Spaniard. His best is a few years

1:40:06 > 1:40:18back. Cisse looks sharp. He won't be too far away. Ujah, a nice clean

1:40:18 > 1:40:24start and perform the way he did earlier would be fine. Good

1:40:24 > 1:40:34reception for him. Olszewski from Poland.

1:40:34 > 1:40:41Poland. Su, this pocket rocket, just explodes out of the blocks. Nobody

1:40:41 > 1:40:47really gets through that first 20 metres than him. Clarke of Jamaica

1:40:47 > 1:40:55will be a danger. Didn't look so good, it took him a while to get

1:40:55 > 1:41:04going in the heats this morning. Safo-Antwi, a former British

1:41:04 > 1:41:09competitor. He is in lane 8.

1:41:17 > 1:41:23Only the first two will definitely make it through to the final. Our

1:41:23 > 1:41:29last event tonight is at 10 past 9. CJ will so be hoping he will be

1:41:29 > 1:41:46there. Expecting to be there. Su in 6. Watch ought for Cisse. Oh, no.

1:41:46 > 1:41:54Well, that is about as clean a false start you're ever going to see. Can

1:41:54 > 1:42:02you believe that, Colin?I'm so disappointed for that young man. He

1:42:02 > 1:42:09has worked hard to be here. But look at that.I mean, you know, CJ's got

1:42:09 > 1:42:17plenty of experience. I know he is neven nervous. He only had to have a

1:42:17 > 1:42:23decent start.Please disqualify lane 4.How can he think that is a

1:42:23 > 1:42:28surprise? Sorry CJ. But unless you think something set you off, that

1:42:28 > 1:42:33was as clear a false start as you can see.Very disappointed for him.

1:42:33 > 1:42:37But part of 60-metre race and all sprinting is the discipline of the

1:42:37 > 1:42:43start. You have got to be prepared to sit in your blocks and just wait

1:42:43 > 1:42:52for the starter's gun.Yet another global final goes begging for CJ

1:42:52 > 1:43:00Ujah. This time a false start. And really. I bet he is thinking can I

1:43:00 > 1:43:07please rewind the clock? So now somebody else will step into these

1:43:07 > 1:43:11shoes. Because that was a spot in the final just waiting for him

1:43:11 > 1:43:23really. Just quickly look at this. He is away. There was a little move

1:43:23 > 1:43:30from Olszewski next to him. But you're just got to wait. Su not one

1:43:30 > 1:43:39of his best starts. Su

1:43:39 > 1:43:45of his best starts. Su makes it through and Safo-Antwi has taken

1:43:45 > 1:43:51advantage of CJ's major mistake.

1:43:57 > 1:44:05So Su.Su, yes, I always watch him in the early rounds and he doesn't

1:44:05 > 1:44:10do anything sensational. He prepares himself for the big final race. He

1:44:10 > 1:44:17tends to run around 6.5 mark and then he drops into the 40s. You

1:44:17 > 1:44:20would expect him when you can see the pace he can run that he could

1:44:20 > 1:44:27step on it. Look how he moves away and keeps that frequency going from

1:44:27 > 1:44:3540 to 50 and 60 and pulls away. Great run by Safo-Antwi to take

1:44:35 > 1:44:40second spot. Su out of blocks, we know he is a good starter. That is

1:44:40 > 1:44:44very, very clear. He works hard. Because at this stage he is not

1:44:44 > 1:44:50quite heading the field. He will be thinking, I need to step up a bit.

1:44:50 > 1:44:57When he does, he just accelerates effortlessly. He just gets leg speed

1:44:57 > 1:45:04from nowhere. He looked really relaxed. He puts it all together

1:45:04 > 1:45:08like you said and we could be in for something fast. We have the other

1:45:08 > 1:45:20big names yet to come. The two men through Su and Safo-Antwi.

1:45:23 > 1:45:27You can't believe it, the first of those semifinals and we looked to

1:45:27 > 1:45:34the start, we thought that this would be quite straightforward, they

1:45:34 > 1:45:40could easily qualify from this, that you also said earlier on today?

1:45:40 > 1:45:44Earlier today I said, he is in the right mindset, and I said to him

1:45:44 > 1:45:48when I saw him in the lobby, somebody always does something

1:45:48 > 1:45:53stupid, make sure it's not you. And I just can't believe this, because

1:45:53 > 1:45:58it seemed like he was in a good space, and I'm not sure what he was

1:45:58 > 1:46:04thinking. Just for people at home, this is not difficult. I know you

1:46:04 > 1:46:11see a lot of false start is, but it is not difficult. I never fault

1:46:11 > 1:46:17started in a race. We saw Usain Bolt do it once, and he is the best there

1:46:17 > 1:46:20has ever been, but this is not hard to do, and especially when you get

1:46:20 > 1:46:24that feed in the semifinal, this is a semifinal when he wouldn't even

1:46:24 > 1:46:30have had to have run his best. You didn't have to get a blazing start

1:46:30 > 1:46:35here in order to get through. So you just don't take the chance,

1:46:35 > 1:46:39especially knowing the rules, you are out if there is a false start.

1:46:39 > 1:46:44You sit there, reacts to the gun, don't try to anticipate it, be in as

1:46:44 > 1:46:49higher state of focus as you possibly can, and when the gun goes

1:46:49 > 1:46:52off, you run.It is discipline, but it happens to the best of us,

1:46:52 > 1:47:01Linford Christie did it. But I just feel for him right now. No

1:47:01 > 1:47:02justification. And Christian Coleman, the world record-holder,

1:47:02 > 1:47:08going in this. And he is alongside an empty lane,

1:47:08 > 1:47:12because Collins doesn't run. Christian Coleman, the world

1:47:12 > 1:47:16record-holder, looking to tidy up his start from the first round.

1:47:16 > 1:47:19Silver medallist at the world outdoors last year behind Justin

1:47:19 > 1:47:27Gatlin in London. Emre Zafer Barnes, former Jamaican schools champion, he

1:47:27 > 1:47:35looked good in qualifying as well. China might have two in the final,

1:47:35 > 1:47:40because Xie, the 200 metres record holder in China is running well over

1:47:40 > 1:47:42the shorter distances. And what about the Ivory Coast, because they

1:47:42 > 1:47:48have the gold and silver from the women's 60 metres, and Meite going

1:47:48 > 1:47:56here, Arthur Cisse is leading in the heats. Good times for the Ivory

1:47:56 > 1:48:08Coast. Kimmari Roach from Jamaica goes in seven, and rows of Sweden.

1:48:08 > 1:48:20-- Rose of Sweden on the outside. So, Coleman gathers himself.

1:48:22 > 1:48:32And we have seen

1:48:32 > 1:48:35intense Su so far looking pretty impressive, but he just needs to

1:48:35 > 1:48:45nail that start this time. Two to go through automatically to the final.

1:48:49 > 1:48:52And it is a good start from Christian Coleman, he dipped a

1:48:52 > 1:48:58little but is straight into his running, Christian Coleman, 6.40

1:48:58 > 1:49:04five. Barnes was there, that is fast to say the least. I think he knows

1:49:04 > 1:49:10that there are things he can pick up on, 6.45, though, and if he gets it

1:49:10 > 1:49:14right in the final, no one can really catchy and matches raw pace.

1:49:14 > 1:49:20But that was impressive once again from Christian Coleman.Very

1:49:20 > 1:49:25impressive. Still wasn't the best out of the blocks, and someone like

1:49:25 > 1:49:29Su will look at that and say, if I can maximise my start, put him under

1:49:29 > 1:49:33pressure early so he is not running so smoothly, he feels like he has to

1:49:33 > 1:49:38chase me and we can have a race. And that it is the question, because he

1:49:38 > 1:49:41is running free and on his own, nobody challenging him, but if

1:49:41 > 1:49:51someone were able to get a Su Bingtian style start alongside him,

1:49:51 > 1:49:58put him under pressure...He has done 6.30 already this year, so it

1:49:58 > 1:50:02may be hard for somebody to get onto his shoulder. Let's watch the start

1:50:02 > 1:50:07again, this is still a little messy for him. He gets down again, doesn't

1:50:07 > 1:50:12really get his feet under him, but when he is upright, he is already

1:50:12 > 1:50:15switched off and he is just thinking to himself, where is the finishing

1:50:15 > 1:50:20line? He doesn't even realise how fast he is going. Crosses the line,

1:50:20 > 1:50:30probably thinks that is a nice 6.6 mark, and it is the 6.45 mark.6.45,

1:50:30 > 1:50:33extraordinary. The championship record is 6.42, Maurice Greene back

1:50:33 > 1:50:39in 1999. That will be more than under threat in the final, I think

1:50:39 > 1:50:44it will go. China will have two athlete in the final, Barnes at the

1:50:44 > 1:50:54moment is one of the fastest losers, Meite misses out to Cisse, his

1:50:54 > 1:50:58fellow countrymen, who is still in one of the fastest loser positions.

1:50:58 > 1:51:02Christian Coleman looking untouchable, and that word also

1:51:02 > 1:51:13describes this athlete, etc Nice Defra

1:51:17 > 1:51:20Defra needy -- Ekaterini Stefanidi. Almost, little shaky on the bottom

1:51:20 > 1:51:23hand, but she had to wait 90 minutes, because they took them off

1:51:23 > 1:51:30the track and had to reintroduce them. She has waited for an hour and

1:51:30 > 1:51:35a half to do her first vault. She didn't quite get that hand ahead of

1:51:35 > 1:51:42her in front, so there is a little slack. What a professional. What a

1:51:42 > 1:51:48champion. She can deal with it at these early heights. She is the

1:51:48 > 1:51:53Olympic champion. Here is another athlete who can give her something

1:51:53 > 1:51:58to think about.

1:52:01 > 1:52:02to think about. This is Anzhelika Sidorova, a neutral athlete, also

1:52:02 > 1:52:10with a clean card. Looking to match the height of Stefanidi. That is a

1:52:10 > 1:52:14great clearance, just two athlete we have seen go clear at this new

1:52:14 > 1:52:20height of 4.70 metres. Everyone else has had a foul, including Sandi

1:52:20 > 1:52:30Morris. The two Americans have fouled at this fight,

1:52:30 > 1:52:33fouled at this fight, so Sidorova and Stefanidi are the only two

1:52:33 > 1:52:39athlete is to go clear. She is wearing that pink tape, so maybe a

1:52:39 > 1:52:41little niggle in the knee just needing additional support.

1:52:41 > 1:52:47And before the final 60 metres semifinal heat, let's have a quick

1:52:47 > 1:52:50word on Coleman. That strange replication of the start. What is

1:52:50 > 1:52:55going on?I had a chance to really look at it. Look at the right foot

1:52:55 > 1:52:59when it comes out of the block. When the right foot comes off the block,

1:52:59 > 1:53:04he tries to shorten that step, and when he tries to shorten that step,

1:53:04 > 1:53:08it throws him off, I'm not sure why he is trying to do that. What you

1:53:08 > 1:53:11can sometimes do when you get that shorter step is get more power from

1:53:11 > 1:53:15it and it propels you forward, but what it is doing for him is it is

1:53:15 > 1:53:19throwing his balance off because it is not a normal thing, not a normal

1:53:19 > 1:53:26stride. And so we saw this morning there was an over exaggeration on

1:53:26 > 1:53:30the left side that caused him to collapse that. This time there was a

1:53:30 > 1:53:35little bit of a hitch again, didn't work for him but he was able to

1:53:35 > 1:53:40recover. It wasn't as dramatic this time. Obviously he is the class, and

1:53:40 > 1:53:44he looked amazing recovering from that, but we see now that he doesn't

1:53:44 > 1:53:48do that. He gets that part of it right, that could be another world

1:53:48 > 1:53:51record, because he looks incredible once he does get out.

1:53:51 > 1:53:59Let's hope he gets it right on the night later on. Andrew Robertson,

1:53:59 > 1:54:00the only Briton left in the 60 metres.

1:54:00 > 1:54:09STEVE CRAM: Andrew wearing arm warmers, he wasn't this morning,

1:54:09 > 1:54:13probably fairly fortunate not to have been. That himself this

1:54:13 > 1:54:20morning, so we will see how he goes. There we saw Dominik Zalesky of the

1:54:20 > 1:54:25Czech Republic, and this is Ronnie Baker, who was chased Christian

1:54:25 > 1:54:28Coleman home this year. He was number one in doors last year in the

1:54:28 > 1:54:37world. Warren Fraser from the Bahamas. I'm not sure we will see

1:54:37 > 1:54:41him contending for the second spot here, it is really Baker compared to

1:54:41 > 1:54:53the rest. Mohammed from Saudi Arabia, the 21-year-old. Michael

1:54:53 > 1:54:57Pohl from Germany, and then somebody I was quite impressed with today,

1:54:57 > 1:55:06the freshfaced Iranians Hassan Taftian, 6.51 this year. He looked

1:55:06 > 1:55:12good this morning, has he got some more in the tank? So there is a good

1:55:12 > 1:55:23line-up. . Two, don't forget, so we expect Baker to go through, but who

1:55:23 > 1:55:28will join him, and will we have any more. ? I wonder if those act like

1:55:28 > 1:55:34blinkers, like you get a horse focused ahead. Because it is not

1:55:34 > 1:55:37cold in here.

1:55:52 > 1:55:57Robertson does get a very good start this time. They are forging away.

1:55:57 > 1:56:02Hassan Taftian on this side going well, it is going to be those two,

1:56:02 > 1:56:07Hassan Taftian joining Baker, 6.53. It is kind of business taking care

1:56:07 > 1:56:12of the Baker, no more than that. Didn't need to be quick, as we just

1:56:12 > 1:56:15saw with Coleman, he knew he had a comfortable semi from his point of

1:56:15 > 1:56:19view. The question was always going to be who is going to join him, and

1:56:19 > 1:56:22it was indeed the Iranians who is very happy, look at him. He is

1:56:22 > 1:56:31through to the final.Taftian was very good. Behind Baker it was a

1:56:31 > 1:56:37very competitive race, so for him to come through that, I think with a

1:56:37 > 1:56:41best performance from him as well. He is in lane eight, closest to us

1:56:41 > 1:56:47there, and he had to work his way, passing of a body inside of him, and

1:56:47 > 1:56:50Baker was chilling all the way through. I think you said it right,

1:56:50 > 1:56:55he knew he had this race under this belt, he worked hard for the first

1:56:55 > 1:56:5715-20 metres, and once you could settle down, that's exactly what he

1:56:57 > 1:57:04did.Just a quick word on Andy Robertson, he is just walking off.

1:57:04 > 1:57:11He finished in fifth place.Let's have a look again. The winner right

1:57:11 > 1:57:17in the centre of the picture for us, Baker of the United States. Good,

1:57:17 > 1:57:21competent 60 metres runner. No stress or strain. Andy was running

1:57:21 > 1:57:28hard on the inside, trying his best, but it wasn't his today. Out of the

1:57:28 > 1:57:31blocks, he works hard, doesn't he? I think he would love to be back in

1:57:31 > 1:57:37that same type of form that we saw him in when he was running those

1:57:37 > 1:57:426.54s in Belgrade, he was capable of winning medals were. He might be

1:57:42 > 1:57:46disappointed, but he got as far as he could do, semifinal was a good,

1:57:46 > 1:57:54solid performance from him.

1:57:54 > 1:58:05OK, so the result is 6.52 and 6.57 for the two qualifiers, and Jan

1:58:05 > 1:58:11Volko with that 6.58 will go through. Just querying that, because

1:58:11 > 1:58:16I wasn't sure that was quick enough, but it is Barnes and Volko who go

1:58:16 > 1:58:29through as the fastest losers. The others must be kicking themselves.

1:58:29 > 1:58:33Only two athletes have gone clear so far at this new height of 4.70

1:58:33 > 1:58:38metres,

1:58:39 > 1:58:49metres, Stefanidi of Greece, and Sidorova, the neutral athlete. And

1:58:49 > 1:58:59that is a really nice jump from the American, Sandi Morris. Ignore that

1:58:59 > 1:59:03for now, more jobs to come, it has been going up in ten centimetres

1:59:03 > 1:59:08increments, but the next fight is 4.75, it slows down a bit. Morris

1:59:08 > 1:59:14has bought herself some more jumps.

1:59:14 > 1:59:20Now to her team-mate, who beat Morris in the US trials, and is the

1:59:20 > 1:59:29world leader. But also carrying a foul at this height of 4.70,

1:59:29 > 1:59:33Nageotte. Second time of asking, she goes clear. So the Americans maybe

1:59:33 > 1:59:37not quite what they would have wanted, but they are in the mix. We

1:59:37 > 1:59:44have only got four clear now, it is a 4.70, and Nageotte in fourth

1:59:44 > 1:59:53place. The Americans going strong still.Just pushing the polar way,

1:59:53 > 1:59:58has height and keeps going. A little different from Sandi Morris, she

1:59:58 > 2:00:02tends to pull down on her top hand and create more of the Bend instead

2:00:02 > 2:00:06of pushing the poll to create the bend, she pulls down. That makes the

2:00:06 > 2:00:12poll soft, so my money is on Nageotte, I think, going higher.

2:00:12 > 2:00:17STUDIO: The next final on the track is the men's 800 metres featuring

2:00:17 > 2:00:21Elliot Giles of Great Britain who looked very good indeed in the

2:00:21 > 2:00:25semifinals, and Paula Radcliffe is in the common shoe box for us. You

2:00:25 > 2:00:31can see it is at 7.30 5pm on the track, and the heptathlon 1000m will

2:00:31 > 2:00:35be an exciting race, because Damian Warner is hot on the heels of May,

2:00:35 > 2:00:39very similar times in their personal bests, and as the evening goes on,

2:00:39 > 2:00:47that final that you should mark your card for, the 1500m at 8.35, Laura

2:00:47 > 2:00:54Muir looking for that, but it will be down to the tactics. Then the

2:00:54 > 2:00:58fastest men in the world indoors this year lining up just after nine

2:00:58 > 2:01:05o'clock. Paula, Elliot Giles looked so good in his heat, and if you look

2:01:05 > 2:01:09down the list, very evenly paced the time, this field. There is not a lot

2:01:09 > 2:01:17between them obviously. We know that Kszczot has got the speed, but

2:01:17 > 2:01:24Elliot Giles could get himself on the rostrum.

2:01:24 > 2:01:27He has, he's got the best opportunity of getting a global

2:01:27 > 2:01:31medal on the main stage. He is aware of that, he's running very well. He

2:01:31 > 2:01:36showed that in his semis, in his seats, he needs to go out there,

2:01:36 > 2:01:41keep his head and race it really well. Similar to the way he did in

2:01:41 > 2:01:41keep his head and race it really well. Similar to the way he did in

2:01:41 > 2:01:44qualifying, where he judged his run to perfection, didn't let himself

2:01:44 > 2:01:47get carried away by what others were doing but concentrated on running

2:01:47 > 2:01:58his own race. Behind Adam Kszczot, who really has his best shot of a

2:01:58 > 2:02:09global first medal, a gold medal, it's wide open. De Arriba is a big

2:02:09 > 2:02:12risk, especially if it's not quick enough but Elliot Giles is in the

2:02:12 > 2:02:15best shape he's been. He is building up well from here to the

2:02:15 > 2:02:20Commonwealth Games and who needs to seize this opportunity. It was his

2:02:20 > 2:02:26attitude, what he said, you felt it was a man who is focused and has got

2:02:26 > 2:02:30himself a PB, he wants to go better than he wants to go faster, he's not

2:02:30 > 2:02:34settling until he leaves here with some metal in his pocket.Oh, that's

2:02:34 > 2:02:39a really good sign, he knows what he needs to do, he knows what he's

2:02:39 > 2:02:43capable of doing, he's trained well and now needs to put the finishing

2:02:43 > 2:02:47touches to it all.Thank you very much, we'll be heading down to Steve

2:02:47 > 2:02:55Cram for commentary on that shortly but Steve Backley, the pole vault.

2:02:55 > 2:03:07Four athletes clear of 470 so far. This will be a new lifetime best if

2:03:07 > 2:03:13she can go clear and join the athletes already gone over. And she

2:03:13 > 2:03:18has! Great jump from the Canadian, a lifetime best, in the World Indoor

2:03:18 > 2:03:21Championship.I'm so impressed by that. What you won't have seen

2:03:21 > 2:03:25earlier is her second attempt. She was stood on the runway ready to go,

2:03:25 > 2:03:31then they made her sit down and when she did finally get on the runway

2:03:31 > 2:03:35she went and ran under the bar, so to come again, build the adrenaline

2:03:35 > 2:03:40in there and focus again and get over a personal best at the World

2:03:40 > 2:03:44Indoor Championship is, that's quality. A quality performance to

2:03:44 > 2:03:54recompose herself.So the pyrotechnics start and we're going

2:03:54 > 2:04:04to see some fireworks, I'm sure, in this 800-metre final. Adam Kszczot,

2:04:04 > 2:04:13saw Walden as Spain, two Spaniards in this final. -- Saul Ordonez. No

2:04:13 > 2:04:17Donovan Brazier of the USA, but they do have Drew Windle, who could be a

2:04:17 > 2:04:21threat if it's a little bit slow. Smaili must be delighted he's in

2:04:21 > 2:04:24here, although he didn't win a bronze at the world Junior

2:04:24 > 2:04:29Championships two years ago. A threat in the closing stages if he's

2:04:29 > 2:04:36closing of, De Arriba as run closely this year, a bronze-medallist at the

2:04:36 > 2:04:43European indoors last year. Elliot Giles gets a huge roar from this

2:04:43 > 2:04:47crowd. His family are in here watching him tonight and as Paula

2:04:47 > 2:04:52was saying, what an opportunity here. He's a great athlete, a great

2:04:52 > 2:04:57talent, and he knows that with how these rounds have gone, we've had

2:04:57 > 2:05:02some disqualifications, had one or two others who didn't perform, but

2:05:02 > 2:05:05he did. Although there were only ten men contested the heats, which I

2:05:05 > 2:05:09don't think I've ever seen to World Championship, World Indoor

2:05:09 > 2:05:13Championship, he did what he had to do and got into the final here. Ten

2:05:13 > 2:05:18became six and this is now the and events which Tom McKean won a good

2:05:18 > 2:05:24few years back. Andrew Osagie, our most recent medallist, bronzes from

2:05:24 > 2:05:31him, can Elliot Giles join them?

2:05:32 > 2:05:34him, can Elliot Giles join them? So Elliott is just going to have to see

2:05:34 > 2:05:38how this race unfurls. I don't think the problem is here there are no

2:05:38 > 2:05:43front runners, there are no natural front runners. Windle likes to come

2:05:43 > 2:05:48from the back, you can see the Spanish athlete De Arriba already at

2:05:48 > 2:05:51the back, so probably there's a reluctant leader here, Smaili is

2:05:51 > 2:05:57going through a fairly pedestrian first 200. They settled down. I

2:05:57 > 2:06:04reckon they'll run I don't know, 54-55 seconds for the first 400,

2:06:04 > 2:06:09which will make it a kickers' race. That will play into the hands of

2:06:09 > 2:06:14Adam Kszczot and De La Riva as well, probably Elliot Giles, who needs to

2:06:14 > 2:06:19get itself in the right position but it reduces it from an 800-metre race

2:06:19 > 2:06:23to a 400-metre race and it becomes key that you are in the right spot

2:06:23 > 2:06:30to be able to respond to it.55.77 and Elliot Giles getting caught in

2:06:30 > 2:06:36the pushing and shoving, Windle grabbing took on to the shorts of

2:06:36 > 2:06:40Windle. It's become a sprinters' race. Ordonez is trying to make him

2:06:40 > 2:06:44run wide. Elliot Giles should try to shut off and he does, good, well

2:06:44 > 2:06:49done, gives yourself a chance. He's given De Arriba the job to go wide.

2:06:49 > 2:06:53Elliott has given himself a huge opportunity here. He's put self in

2:06:53 > 2:06:57there with a really good chance, look at the composure of Adam

2:06:57 > 2:07:01Kszczot, he doesn't do anything before he needs to.Stretching it

2:07:01 > 2:07:07out from the front, Adam Kszczot has never won a gold medal at a major

2:07:07 > 2:07:14event apart from the Europeans, he's looking for a world title. Elliot

2:07:14 > 2:07:17Giles is third, can he hang onto it? Kszczot is coming away for the gold,

2:07:17 > 2:07:23Windle will get the silver, Ordonez gets bronze, Elliot Giles run out of

2:07:23 > 2:07:28it. Well done Adam Kszczot, an awful lot of people in athletics will be

2:07:28 > 2:07:31absolutely delighted for him, he's a really nice guy, a popular guy, and

2:07:31 > 2:07:37he's tried to win this medal on so many occasions, it seems. It's been

2:07:37 > 2:07:42silver in the past, outdoors and indoors, and now he's the world

2:07:42 > 2:07:47champion. Perfectly judged performance from him. He's a

2:07:47 > 2:07:51classical tactical 800-metre runner. I think Elliot got himself caught up

2:07:51 > 2:07:55in some of the pushing and shoving, didn't have as clean arrays, he made

2:07:55 > 2:08:00a good move when he held De Arriba off but got himself into a push and

2:08:00 > 2:08:05shove with Drew Windle, who we knew would finish quickly. I think

2:08:05 > 2:08:13Elliott must be thinking, goodness me, that was a huge chance, a great

2:08:13 > 2:08:17opportunity, didn't quite happen.He will definitely learn, I don't think

2:08:17 > 2:08:21he did a lot wrong, he got caught up in the tactical battle in the push

2:08:21 > 2:08:28is shows which zap a bit of your energy, I've just been told by Mark

2:08:28 > 2:08:32Butler he ran 25.07 for his last 200 metres and that was when he'd

2:08:32 > 2:08:35already conferred a little bit before them, you can see what that

2:08:35 > 2:08:39means to him, how many times has been second or third, so to finally

2:08:39 > 2:08:43get that global medal is so deserved. He's so impressive, the

2:08:43 > 2:08:48way he moved to the front and urged the pace on. He wasn't willing to go

2:08:48 > 2:08:52and commit to it and when he does commit, that's when just thrown down

2:08:52 > 2:08:56and they have a split second to react. At this point Drew Windle had

2:08:56 > 2:09:00not reacted well, he was right up the inside but he managed to pick up

2:09:00 > 2:09:03and he was running into the back of the runners in front of him. All he

2:09:03 > 2:09:07did was raise his hand there to steady himself against Elliot Giles,

2:09:07 > 2:09:13but he had more in his legs and Elliot used that burst of energy too

2:09:13 > 2:09:20soon and was not able to find any more in the straight.Yeah, it was

2:09:20 > 2:09:24at this point here I think Giles was thinking I've got the bronze medal

2:09:24 > 2:09:29here and Ordonez surprised all of us. We thought De Arriba, but when

2:09:29 > 2:09:37Windle comes past Elliot has nothing left. Had he been able, he'd will

2:09:37 > 2:09:41say better than us, but when the pace really came on he didn't seem

2:09:41 > 2:09:46to have enough endurance almost to keep going at that fast-paced. He

2:09:46 > 2:09:50ran out of legs a little bit, or he thought the medal was his. You see

2:09:50 > 2:09:55him holding his head in his hands, the worst place to come is fourth,

2:09:55 > 2:09:59he's come very close to winning a medal. That was a huge opportunity.

2:09:59 > 2:10:03If you said to him, by the way, you just have to beat Ordonez and Drew

2:10:03 > 2:10:10Windle to win a medal he'd have said, yes, I'll take that, thank you

2:10:10 > 2:10:14very much. Didn't quite happen. The times are irrelevant in a tactical

2:10:14 > 2:10:21race like that, at a popular gold medal for Adam Kszczot of Poland,

2:10:21 > 2:10:28Drew Windle, as advised silver medal for the USA, and indeed also for

2:10:28 > 2:10:33Ordonez, winning a medal for Spain, who gets it ahead of Elliot Giles.

2:10:33 > 2:10:34Your face as you came

2:10:34 > 2:10:34who gets it ahead of Elliot Giles. Your face as you came across

2:10:34 > 2:10:35who gets it ahead of Elliot Giles. Your face as you came across the

2:10:35 > 2:10:43line really said it all. It's heartbreak.

2:10:43 > 2:10:45heartbreak.Yeah, you have to deal with the set of cards you've been

2:10:45 > 2:10:50dealt with and I got caught out a few times. No excuses, the other

2:10:50 > 2:10:54guys put themselves in better positions today. I'm gutted, because

2:10:54 > 2:10:57I believe I could have medalled but it's pointless me saying that

2:10:57 > 2:11:03because I didn't. It's tough.How do you feel about your performance? You

2:11:03 > 2:11:08were having to really fight for your position within that race.Yeah, it

2:11:08 > 2:11:13was messy. The Spanish guy was headless, I could tell he would be

2:11:13 > 2:11:19scrappy because of how ready he was to surge. I thought I'd sit there

2:11:19 > 2:11:23rather than try to go round him. I don't know what happened but I think

2:11:23 > 2:11:27how was in third going off the last bend and I don't know, I stood up as

2:11:27 > 2:11:32opposed to leaning forward and saw someone come straight past me and it

2:11:32 > 2:11:36was just then, it is gut-wrenching but it's part of the process and if

2:11:36 > 2:11:39you didn't lose some you wouldn't get to the top one day. Hopefully

2:11:39 > 2:11:43this is part of what is meant to be. A fantastic attitude. Obviously want

2:11:43 > 2:11:48to come away with a medal but you are local boy. What has it been like

2:11:48 > 2:11:51being able to come out to a place you know so well, with these

2:11:51 > 2:11:56incredible crowds, who have probably gone as well for you than anybody

2:11:56 > 2:12:04this weekend?I mean, being in front of a crowd, to be honest, even if I

2:12:04 > 2:12:07did get that bronze medal I'd feel sad because you are still not

2:12:07 > 2:12:11winning, are you, but it would have been nice to have won just for my

2:12:11 > 2:12:15home crowd. I'll have to wait until the Commonwealth is now to get my

2:12:15 > 2:12:21next shot and that's 2022, I think, so I've got a long wait before I get

2:12:21 > 2:12:27to see the crowd, so hopefully round two and go again.Commiserations,

2:12:27 > 2:12:30thank you for speaking to me and what a wonderful attitude you have.

2:12:30 > 2:12:34Pleasure.

2:12:34 > 2:12:35what a wonderful attitude you have. Pleasure.

2:12:35 > 2:12:37COMMENTATOR: Back to the pole vault, Eliza

2:12:37 > 2:12:43McCartney of New Zealand, already has that national record, the bar

2:12:43 > 2:12:49has been raised to 4.75 metres. This will be a new lifetime best if she

2:12:49 > 2:12:55can get it. She does. That's a magical jump, considering her

2:12:55 > 2:13:01preparation has been, well, less than perfect. First-time clearance

2:13:01 > 2:13:08and the first athlete to go clear and McCartney goes into the lead as

2:13:08 > 2:13:13we get to the sort of heights where medals are going to be contested.

2:13:13 > 2:13:17Six athletes still remain, Newman of Canada, McCartney we've seen go

2:13:17 > 2:13:26clear, Morris, a Katerina Stefanidi, Anzhelika Sidorova and the pole

2:13:26 > 2:13:33vault is hotting up.

2:13:33 > 2:13:35vault is hotting up. We see Sandi Morris, who has been good apart from

2:13:35 > 2:13:41one glitch at the previous height. Her first try, it's superb. She'd be

2:13:41 > 2:13:45looking so impressive will stop in all of the Heights, just that tiny

2:13:45 > 2:13:50glitch that may count of course, when it comes to sorting out the

2:13:50 > 2:13:56medals. But that now goes into the lead. Determination etched on her

2:13:56 > 2:14:01face there, drives up hard and high. A really good clearance, 4.75

2:14:01 > 2:14:06metres, and the 20 centimetres over that, takes you into, well, world

2:14:06 > 2:14:11beating territory.

2:14:12 > 2:14:16beating territory. So a Katerina Stefanidi after that long wait

2:14:16 > 2:14:24cleared at 4.70, the previous height, but has made a mess of that.

2:14:24 > 2:14:32That's unusual for her. She's usually so consistent. That's a

2:14:32 > 2:14:38secret weapon. She's only ranked fourth in the world but a foul at

2:14:38 > 2:14:444.75, questions being asked of the Olympic and world champion.

2:14:44 > 2:14:47GABBY LOGAN: Coming up to 1000 metres, the final

2:14:47 > 2:14:53event of the men's heptathlon and Kevin Mayer in the lead from Damian

2:14:53 > 2:14:57Warner and there's just three seconds in terms of points between

2:14:57 > 2:15:02them in the 1000 metres. They have almost identical PBs as well and the

2:15:02 > 2:15:07reason it's so tight is because, well, Damian Warner had an

2:15:07 > 2:15:12absolutely fantastic pole vault, for him, and here he is, Denise, about

2:15:12 > 2:15:18to clear 4.90. This is above perhaps what he would have expected. It was

2:15:18 > 2:15:21way more than he would have expected we would have expected. We don't

2:15:21 > 2:15:24know how well his training has been going, but what a clearance. This

2:15:24 > 2:15:31was possibly one of his weaker events in this two Day competition

2:15:31 > 2:15:35and...Couple that with a man who is a fantastic pole vault, Kevin Mayer,

2:15:35 > 2:15:42having a bit of a shocker.Absolute shocker. He passed the next heights,

2:15:42 > 2:15:49so this clearance, or failure was a shock, a real shock. You know, he's

2:15:49 > 2:15:55such a competent and confident pole vault. You can see how much that

2:15:55 > 2:15:58means to him.But it is that a fantastic finale because it's the

2:15:58 > 2:16:03two of them going for it in terms of a race with each other, because it's

2:16:03 > 2:16:07almost the winner takes the spoil. Gilbert men absolutely, we said it

2:16:07 > 2:16:11will be a thrilling heptathlon and it has played out that way. Let's go

2:16:11 > 2:16:16back out to the women's pole vault because a Katerina Stefanidi, the

2:16:16 > 2:16:20world, Olympic, European indoor champion just had a failure at 4.75.

2:16:20 > 2:16:27She will go again, Steve Backley.

2:16:27 > 2:16:33She is unbeaten for a year and has been dominant in this event. The

2:16:33 > 2:16:40secret is consistency and timing of her jumps. Needs this and a second

2:16:40 > 2:16:47chance at 4.70 five. Better.That is better. Sidorova gets into a rhythm

2:16:47 > 2:16:52baguettes the

2:16:52 > 2:16:56baguettes the poll out early and over. She won't get a chance again

2:16:56 > 2:17:03until the bar goes up to four metres 80. That is the next height.

2:17:03 > 2:17:11Stefanidi, a Chellini clearance at the second time of asking. -- a

2:17:11 > 2:17:16clean clearance. So, Stefanidi, as we stand, in the bronze medal. The

2:17:16 > 2:17:25next height is 4.80.We will keep abreast of everything that is

2:17:25 > 2:17:30happening in the pole vault. Now for the final event in the heptathlon.

2:17:30 > 2:17:361000 metres ahead of the and that is all up full grabs for the bronze

2:17:36 > 2:17:48medal. Only 1.5 seconds separating two competitors. The gap of 30 four

2:17:48 > 2:17:57points between Damian Warner and Kevin Mayer.

2:17:57 > 2:18:02Kevin Mayer. 2.37 or thereabouts. We only have nine left standing.

2:18:02 > 2:18:16Dolezal is in ninth place. Ruben Gado.

2:18:16 > 2:18:21Gado. Dominik Distelberger will be the next one out. I think the key is

2:18:21 > 2:18:28going to be, I am always interested in the decathlon when pacing

2:18:28 > 2:18:33yourself in a way that is against the clock a little bit because that

2:18:33 > 2:18:37is based on the sort of times that you know you normally run also being

2:18:37 > 2:18:42aware of what your competitors are trying to do. Kevin Mayer needs to

2:18:42 > 2:18:46keep Damian Warner in his sights, I guess. Three seconds doesn't sound a

2:18:46 > 2:18:53lot but it is quite a lot over a thousand metres. Uibo has had a

2:18:53 > 2:19:02brilliant competition.

2:19:02 > 2:19:04brilliant competition. Kazmirek was ten centimetres less and closed the

2:19:04 > 2:19:12gap to 13 points. Here we go. Damian Warner, Commonwealth champion back

2:19:12 > 2:19:19in 2014, of course. Let's not forget that in this commonwealth year. The

2:19:19 > 2:19:21world champion, Olympic silver-medallist, giving himself a

2:19:21 > 2:19:29bit of a concern after that were pole vault. Indoors, it is five laps

2:19:29 > 2:19:40of the track. I am looking Steve and Tony in theirs. If you have to make

2:19:40 > 2:19:46up three seconds in a thousand metres, and you are not used to

2:19:46 > 2:19:49doing this all that often, if you know what I mean, what to think

2:19:49 > 2:20:00Warner will try to do, if anything? I think it will be a steady pace.I

2:20:00 > 2:20:05was speaking to Michael Smith, the current coach for the Canadian

2:20:05 > 2:20:12Bridge David only needs to run 2.42 to break. They've worked this way to

2:20:12 > 2:20:17get close to Kevin Mayer. The last time he ran was around 2.40 one.

2:20:17 > 2:20:22We're not sure how good he is, even though they have equal PB is. It was

2:20:22 > 2:20:30a couple of years ago that Kevin ran his PB. He will slowly turn the

2:20:30 > 2:20:36screw lap by lap. Here we go in the final event, the thousand metres, in

2:20:36 > 2:20:41the pentathlon. David Warner needs to somehow find a way to put

2:20:41 > 2:20:46pressure on the Frenchman, who has slotted into second place behind

2:20:46 > 2:20:54Sintnicolaas. Kazmirek, the other two we are watching. The difference

2:20:54 > 2:20:58is not much full that they are quite well matched if you look at personal

2:20:58 > 2:21:07bests. It is about how you feel on the day. Warner will be thinking he

2:21:07 > 2:21:13has too forced the issue a little bit.The race is on. Fascinating

2:21:13 > 2:21:19watching. Warner knows he have to stretch out there. He has something

2:21:19 > 2:21:27to work off but does he had the ability? Warner is a better runner

2:21:27 > 2:21:33than me. Look at the gap opening up! Three seconds has to be the

2:21:33 > 2:21:39difference for the Canadian to overhaul the French athlete. May I

2:21:39 > 2:21:44cannot let him get much further ahead. Warner is picking up the pace

2:21:44 > 2:21:53was that it is really stretching out a couple of seconds. -- up the pace

2:21:53 > 2:21:58Dash it is really stretching out a couple of seconds. The pace would

2:21:58 > 2:22:02get him into the 2.37 Web 2.0 38. You're probably think that is what

2:22:02 > 2:22:11he needs to do and hope that cannot run 2.40, 2.40 one. My worry is that

2:22:11 > 2:22:18he is going quick in the middle. He really has to build the pace. He is

2:22:18 > 2:22:26not going to break me. He is doing a good job and Uibo is helping him.

2:22:26 > 2:22:34Getting close now on Damian Warner, who may have gone too quick, too

2:22:34 > 2:22:39early.It is so difficult to be the man out in front. Very good to see

2:22:39 > 2:22:45where Warner can find the extra second and a half from that final

2:22:45 > 2:22:51lap. Looks like he will do enough here in the final hundred metres.

2:22:51 > 2:22:55Warner has just found a little bit extra and starts to kick away as

2:22:55 > 2:23:02Meier starts to tire. They are all starting to kick hard. It will be a

2:23:02 > 2:23:06couple of seconds. Will it be three? Damian Warner has found something

2:23:06 > 2:23:17extra. Watch the clock! That is one, two, three. It will be very tight.

2:23:17 > 2:23:23Kazmirek has lost the bronze medal. We don't will get that. Who has won

2:23:23 > 2:23:30the gold medal? What a performance from Warner?! He slowed and then

2:23:30 > 2:23:35picked up again when he realised he had a little bit left. You have to

2:23:35 > 2:23:40be careful about how they do the rankings. That time for Warner has

2:23:40 > 2:23:45just gone up. It is gold medal to Kevin Mayer by five points. Meier

2:23:45 > 2:23:54has won it. The thousand 348 points. That is the equivalent of a couple

2:23:54 > 2:24:08of intents a second. -- tenths of a second. He threw himself at the line

2:24:08 > 2:24:14and had nothing left to give. There is the bronze-medallist. You have to

2:24:14 > 2:24:21hand it to the silver-medallist, Damian Warner, for having a crack at

2:24:21 > 2:24:25it.If the women's pentathlon was clear-cut in the order did not

2:24:25 > 2:24:31change in the final event, that is an extraordinary race. Talking of

2:24:31 > 2:24:34the lactic build-up for these athletes who have been competing so

2:24:34 > 2:24:42hard... Coming here Warner found a bit more running in his legs towards

2:24:42 > 2:24:48the end. To lose by five points is cruel. Have a look at me as he comes

2:24:48 > 2:24:54down the final 30 metres or so. This lactic build-up he has, he was

2:24:54 > 2:24:59fading, wading through a snow drift towards the end. Warner is still

2:24:59 > 2:25:07full of running belatedly speaking. Watch me in fourth place. --

2:25:07 > 2:25:12relatively speaking. It comes down to five points overall. Warner has

2:25:12 > 2:25:17nothing more to give but look at Kevin Mayer and the effort required,

2:25:17 > 2:25:22because of the pole vault, to help himself at the line will stop

2:25:22 > 2:25:33ultimately, to take gold. -- at the line and ultimately to take gold. We

2:25:33 > 2:25:38will know shortly that he has the gold medal and how close it was.

2:25:38 > 2:25:43Warner thought he might have done enough. It has been a great

2:25:43 > 2:25:50championship for Warner. He really has delivered. Meier was at bit

2:25:50 > 2:26:00below his best. He did enough, just enough will stopIn the end, the gap

2:26:00 > 2:26:07between the two of them was two and a half seconds. There is the result

2:26:07 > 2:26:16of the 1000 metres. Kevin Mayer in fourth place doing enough to hang

2:26:16 > 2:26:26on. We vote taking the bronze with a superb run. -- Uibo taking the

2:26:26 > 2:26:28bronze.

2:26:30 > 2:26:40Damian Warner was so close with a new record for him.

2:26:40 > 2:26:49new record for him. Uibo, a record for him as well with 6205.Back to

2:26:49 > 2:26:55the women's pole vault. Sidorova chose to pass at the previous

2:26:55 > 2:27:08height. 480 and the first attempt. Gets it. That is a brilliant

2:27:08 > 2:27:14clearance for Sidorova, the neutral athlete. The first athlete we have

2:27:14 > 2:27:20seen broke clear at this height. She seems pretty relaxed about it. Maybe

2:27:20 > 2:27:31more to come. Stefanidi and Morris were good at the previous height.

2:27:31 > 2:27:35The jumps are starting to count as we turn our attention to the triple

2:27:35 > 2:27:44jump. DOS Santos is the leader. He only started competing at the end of

2:27:44 > 2:27:48last year and has improved ever since. He used to have high jump.

2:27:48 > 2:27:58First round of the triple jump. He is still learning the event. So many

2:27:58 > 2:28:02people are talking about his potential. It is enormous and he

2:28:02 > 2:28:12improves every time he jumps. He has long levers, it used to good effect.

2:28:12 > 2:28:25Chasing the lead. 17.22 takes the lead.

2:28:25 > 2:28:31lead.Well we are going to show you a new result for the 800 metres for

2:28:31 > 2:28:38men with Elliott Giles in the bronze medal position. The reason for that

2:28:38 > 2:28:47is the American has been disqualified. Drew Windle was on the

2:28:47 > 2:28:54inside. I think it might have been on the last bend. I am not sure it

2:28:54 > 2:29:03is here. Elliott Giles is as much to blame for that. I mentioned that in

2:29:03 > 2:29:08commentary at the time that he was hanging onto the pants of an athlete

2:29:08 > 2:29:16but you have to obstruct an athlete. There was a time when... I know he

2:29:16 > 2:29:25pulls that shirt. That is not an obstruction. He is pulling his

2:29:25 > 2:29:33shirt. He has been disqualified for jostling and obstruction. I think

2:29:33 > 2:29:39that is a bit harsh on Drew Windle. I know it gives the bronze medal to

2:29:39 > 2:29:45Elliott Giles. This is more relevant to me. No, the guy on Ian Sadler is

2:29:45 > 2:29:49trying to force him into a position that was not there. -- on the

2:29:49 > 2:29:55inside. Smiley was trying to come through on the inside when there was

2:29:55 > 2:30:01not room to do that. There was also another incident on the last bend.

2:30:01 > 2:30:05We will try to work out what that was for and whether or not that will

2:30:05 > 2:30:11stand. At the moment, Elliott Giles has the bronze medal.

2:30:11 > 2:30:16GABBY LOGAN: Extraordinary scenes, as you know,

2:30:16 > 2:30:21our studio is whether podiums are. We heard this news a few minutes

2:30:21 > 2:30:24ago, that Windle would be disqualified and then we saw Windle

2:30:24 > 2:30:29walk up with the other two athletes, no Elliot Giles, so we figured

2:30:29 > 2:30:32perhaps this wasn't happening at the knees and Michael, then

2:30:32 > 2:30:35extraordinary beyond belief, Elliot Giles walks up behind him so we

2:30:35 > 2:30:39currently have four athletes to our right-hand side is waiting for a

2:30:39 > 2:30:43medal ceremony. We haven't seen Drew Windle leave, we have seized the --

2:30:43 > 2:30:47we have seen the evidence, if you like, that Steve Cram was talking

2:30:47 > 2:30:49about there. What do you make of it?

2:30:49 > 2:30:51like, that Steve Cram was talking about there. What do you make of it?

2:30:51 > 2:30:56The behaviour is very odd, I would imagine the US team is trying to

2:30:56 > 2:31:00make the case for why Drew Windle pulled the other athlete's jersey,

2:31:00 > 2:31:04maybe he had a legitimate reason for it, maybe they are trying to make up

2:31:04 > 2:31:08and manufacture a legitimate reason for it but on the surface it seems

2:31:08 > 2:31:13not very sportsmanlike and it could affect that runner's progress and

2:31:13 > 2:31:17stride, so that would be impeding that athletes, and he would deserve

2:31:17 > 2:31:22to be disqualified based on what it looks like. One of our crew here has

2:31:22 > 2:31:26just been unspoken and Elliot Giles and he said, right now, he has no

2:31:26 > 2:31:29idea what's going on. He doesn't know what's happening, he is as

2:31:29 > 2:31:34confused as the rest of us.Would will he have seen that piece of

2:31:34 > 2:31:39footage? He probably hasn't. I think Michael is right, there is some sort

2:31:39 > 2:31:43of counterprotest going in.He hasn't been told that he's going to

2:31:43 > 2:31:47be gifting a medal, so obviously I think we can surmise the American

2:31:47 > 2:31:51team are putting in a counter complaint.Right, he's probably been

2:31:51 > 2:31:58told there's a protest otherwise, he's being, someone is under

2:31:58 > 2:32:01investigation and they are sorting out now and they hope to have it

2:32:01 > 2:32:04sorted before the actual ceremony and that's probably what is

2:32:04 > 2:32:09happening.OK, we will bring you news when we have news. The pole

2:32:09 > 2:32:10vault hopefully

2:32:10 > 2:32:11news when we have news. The pole vault hopefully is a bit more

2:32:11 > 2:32:14straightforward, Steve?I wouldn't count on it, it gets complicated

2:32:14 > 2:32:18with these fouls and clearances but we know one thing, Anzhelika

2:32:18 > 2:32:23Sidorova, the neutral athlete, is that Nick lead. She's the only

2:32:23 > 2:32:28athlete to have gone clear at 4.80 metres. Stefanidi of Greece is

2:32:28 > 2:32:33capable of joining her, a second chance to get this height. 4.80,

2:32:33 > 2:32:40it's too much. As we said earlier she's never, well, she hasn't lost

2:32:40 > 2:32:46in over a year now, Stefanidi, the Olympic champion from Rio, the world

2:32:46 > 2:32:52champion from London last summer, outdoors.

2:32:53 > 2:32:58outdoors. Right then, we are into the third attempt now of this height

2:32:58 > 2:33:04of 4.80, Eliza McCartney of New Zealand. To stay involved. She came

2:33:04 > 2:33:09down on that, had the height, didn't have the penetration through, and

2:33:09 > 2:33:15McCartney, well, currently in the bronze medal position because of her

2:33:15 > 2:33:21first time clearance of 4.75, the previous height, and national

2:33:21 > 2:33:28record, continental record. McCartney, bronze in Rio, may have

2:33:28 > 2:33:34another global bronze here. But there's a couple of athletes who can

2:33:34 > 2:33:39deprive her of that medal. There's nothing else she can do, she is out,

2:33:39 > 2:33:46three fouls, her work is done. A great performance. A from the coach

2:33:46 > 2:33:52but Sandi Morris has an attempt, the two Americans both have one more

2:33:52 > 2:33:55chance, and of course Stefanidi as well. Stefanidi the background,

2:33:55 > 2:34:00there's Sandi Morris in the foreground, will be the next

2:34:00 > 2:34:04athlete. It's been a really tough competition for the pole vault is.

2:34:04 > 2:34:12Real stop start, the cone comes out, the bar is re-raised, with all the

2:34:12 > 2:34:16sprinting going on it's been very disruptive. The athletes have been

2:34:16 > 2:34:20ready to go, then they've been asked to pause and weight, so a lot of

2:34:20 > 2:34:25patience and composure needed. Once again, Sandi Morris, they are used

2:34:25 > 2:34:27to that, by the way. That is part and parcel of world-class pole

2:34:27 > 2:34:37vaulting. Sandi Morris, two fouls at 4.80, height she has cleared

2:34:37 > 2:34:46comfortably this year. 4.90 is her season's vest, 4.95 her lifetime

2:34:46 > 2:34:55best, so she knows she is capable. She has to commit to this 100%.

2:34:55 > 2:35:04Morris, for a medal, she's in second anyway. And gets it! Sandi Morris

2:35:04 > 2:35:08has produced a beautiful job. She may have hurt her right elbow, I

2:35:08 > 2:35:13think will stop she's been the best so far and has produced something

2:35:13 > 2:35:19really special there.I think so, a super job, composed herself really

2:35:19 > 2:35:26well in her mind. A little kick from the poll, I think. As the poll

2:35:26 > 2:35:30unwinds, it kicks back and hits you in the forearm. She will be used to

2:35:30 > 2:35:37those kind of stingers.

2:35:37 > 2:35:45Oh, yeah, just ouch, ouch, I think we will favour. Theyeah, caught her

2:35:45 > 2:35:52elbow on the top of the pole on the way down. I hope she's OK to

2:35:52 > 2:35:57continue, because she's clear. She's in second place, third time

2:35:57 > 2:36:04clearance for Morris, first time for sift -- -- for Sidorova. Stefanidi,

2:36:04 > 2:36:12last chance, she gets it as well! The Katerina Stefanidi, such a

2:36:12 > 2:36:17brilliant jumper and proves her brilliance once again!I think she

2:36:17 > 2:36:21was a little lucky, I'm not sure she planted well, it was kind of a

2:36:21 > 2:36:26double hit. The pole went in and moved across. There was a little

2:36:26 > 2:36:29judder but she managed to ride through it and get up and over the

2:36:29 > 2:36:34bar. I think she realises she might have been a bit fortunate there. She

2:36:34 > 2:36:39has looked tense throughout this competition. A question of how she

2:36:39 > 2:36:42is handling the pressure, the fielding pressure, the expectation,

2:36:42 > 2:36:48we know she is used to that and it builds on that unbeaten record of 18

2:36:48 > 2:36:52or 19 competition is now under year's worth of them is building and

2:36:52 > 2:36:58she is the target. It is well and truly placed on her back. Sidorova,

2:36:58 > 2:37:01the neutral athlete, the only athlete with a clean card, is in

2:37:01 > 2:37:06front and Morris and Stefanidi, the American and Greek jumpers, share

2:37:06 > 2:37:09second place and that knocks McCartney eyed amazingly out of the

2:37:09 > 2:37:16medals.Is no bronze medal, there's two Silvers but the bar will go up,

2:37:16 > 2:37:234.85. Time to reset and go again. It is a height these ladies are capable

2:37:23 > 2:37:33of.It isn't over yet. 4.85, the next height. There it is, being

2:37:33 > 2:37:37raised. On the opposite side, parallel to that pole vault runway

2:37:37 > 2:37:50as the triple jump, Nelson Evora. 17.14 metres in the first round. Dos

2:37:50 > 2:37:55Santos of Brazil leading. This is big, that was a lovely jump, held

2:37:55 > 2:37:58his speed through the phases beautifully. Ten years since he took

2:37:58 > 2:38:09gold in the Olympics. Let's have a look at this.Look at how active he

2:38:09 > 2:38:13is on the floor, reaches, poles, as a sideways glance at the scoreboard

2:38:13 > 2:38:21and decides where he wants to land. Brilliant.17.2 to the lead, its

2:38:21 > 2:38:3117.40, he goes into the lead. STEVE CRAM:

2:38:31 > 2:38:34Zoey Clark are introduced to the cloud ahead of the women's 400

2:38:34 > 2:38:39metres final.

2:38:39 > 2:38:46metres final. Into the arena, Eilidh Doyle. A chance of a medal here, I

2:38:46 > 2:38:50think the Americans that are about to be introduced might control this

2:38:50 > 2:38:58final. Shakima Wimbley, gold in the four by four in London last year,

2:38:58 > 2:39:04had a great battle with this woman, Courtney Okolo in the United States

2:39:04 > 2:39:11championships. It was decided by 100th of a second and Okolo took it,

2:39:11 > 2:39:15Wimbley second and those two may the women to beat here. I'm sure if they

2:39:15 > 2:39:19have their own private show they will be close behind them. You look

2:39:19 > 2:39:25at Eilidh Doyle and Justyna Swiety-Ersetic. Jenkins of Jamaica

2:39:25 > 2:39:30on the inside.

2:39:31 > 2:39:35on the inside. Again, in the women's 400, not quite as bad as it was on

2:39:35 > 2:39:42the mend's 400, but to an extent dominated by disqualifications.

2:39:42 > 2:39:46MacPherson in the semifinal went out, which lets Zoey Clark in and

2:39:46 > 2:39:54Lee Springer -- Lea Sprunger, who was going so well, was disqualified.

2:39:54 > 2:40:01An opportunity now for Clark, who thought it was about the

2:40:01 > 2:40:04Commonwealth Games this year and here she is in the world indoor

2:40:04 > 2:40:08final and for Doyle to take her first individual medal on the world

2:40:08 > 2:40:15stage. But Courtney Okolo and Shakima Wimbley are the two to beat,

2:40:15 > 2:40:29the Americans, in the outside lanes. The final of the women's 400 metres.

2:40:32 > 2:40:37Eilidh Doyle able to target and try and work off the Americans outside.

2:40:37 > 2:40:44Shakima Wimbley and Courtney Act Coro are so strong. -- Courtney

2:40:44 > 2:40:48Okolo. Wimbley looking for the lead at the break, Doyle has gone out

2:40:48 > 2:40:53strongly, so too has Zoey Clark. Justyna Swiety-Ersetic, the Polish

2:40:53 > 2:41:00athlete, is waiting. Doyle is jostling with Wimbley at the moment.

2:41:00 > 2:41:06Doyle in between the two Americans, Wimbley, in the pink hairband will

2:41:06 > 2:41:11come again. Clark in fourth place. There is the roar from the cloud.

2:41:11 > 2:41:17Trying to hold on, Wimbley, has she got anything left? Doyle is in the

2:41:17 > 2:41:22silver medal position, Wimbley on her shoulder. Wembley comes through

2:41:22 > 2:41:26for silver, bronze to Eilidh Doyle just ahead of Justyna

2:41:26 > 2:41:29Swiety-Ersetic, so there's a medal for Eilidh Doyle but Courtney Okolo,

2:41:29 > 2:41:34we thought it might be a close battle but not so, Courtney Okolo a

2:41:34 > 2:41:39long way clear. She has the gold medal. Eilidh Doyle has bronze in

2:41:39 > 2:41:48the world indoors, behind Shakima Wimbley. American one - two, close

2:41:48 > 2:41:51to silver for Eilidh Doyle but bronze will eventually be

2:41:51 > 2:41:54celebrated, celebrated by Doyle, because that is some achievement. It

2:41:54 > 2:41:58was always going to be about the two Americans but in the end about one,

2:41:58 > 2:42:04Courtney Okolo.

2:42:04 > 2:42:07Courtney Okolo. Eilidh Doyle won that medal by being aggressive after

2:42:07 > 2:42:11the first 200 metres, getting a place on the inside, holding off

2:42:11 > 2:42:17Wimbley and being strong, so strong, and she so deserved that. Again,

2:42:17 > 2:42:19there are medals that are given a championships and then there are

2:42:19 > 2:42:23ones that are received not only by the athlete but received really well

2:42:23 > 2:42:28everybody else as well but not in Eilidh Doyle to win an individual

2:42:28 > 2:42:33medal at these championships is superb. There it is, right now, had

2:42:33 > 2:42:37she lost out she would have had to check out, come background but she

2:42:37 > 2:42:40holds it there. She will come under pressure later run and she knows

2:42:40 > 2:42:44that but she stays strong. She pushes on once more, makes Wimbley

2:42:44 > 2:42:49have to wait and be patient. Wimbley has nothing else and has to come

2:42:49 > 2:42:54again. Now Eilidh Doyle had to hang in, hang in, hang in, hold on for

2:42:54 > 2:42:59the medal. It's there, a brilliant performance from Eilidh

2:42:59 > 2:43:01the medal. It's there, a brilliant performance from Eilidh. I'm so

2:43:01 > 2:43:06pleased for her. Some athletes don't seize an opportunity, it was an

2:43:06 > 2:43:08opportunity admittedly given to her by others not performing and making

2:43:08 > 2:43:12it to the final but once she was in, boy, she grabbed the opportunity.

2:43:12 > 2:43:19She grabbed the opportunity. We believe is a great talent, 22 years

2:43:19 > 2:43:23old and was always going to threaten to come past and take the silver, as

2:43:23 > 2:43:27she did but Doyle, at the break, at the bell, at the 200-metre mark, you

2:43:27 > 2:43:32saw her keeping her line, holding off Wimbley and making Wimbley

2:43:32 > 2:43:36worked very hard for the silver medal. Courtney Okolo, a personal

2:43:36 > 2:43:42best, just behind the quickest time of another American who is not here

2:43:42 > 2:43:49but Okolo and Wimbley, and for alien model -- for Eilidh Doyle, a bronze

2:43:49 > 2:43:59medal.Back to this triple jump final, a great atmosphere here in

2:43:59 > 2:44:05Birmingham. A bit of a lacklustre first half of the competition, his

2:44:05 > 2:44:13best so far in sixth place, silver-medallist at the Olympics,

2:44:13 > 2:44:17Will Claye. He knows it, that's much better. Let's have a look at this,

2:44:17 > 2:44:28Will Claye. Because the lead is 7.40, Nelson Evora, we saw that a

2:44:28 > 2:44:32few moments ago. A really slow start. A lot of the athletes taking

2:44:32 > 2:44:36their time to feel their way into the competition. That was great

2:44:36 > 2:44:40speed into the board and he carried it, stood the board, was leaning

2:44:40 > 2:44:44back. Right on top of his foot, drove himself flat down the triple

2:44:44 > 2:44:52jump runway and into the pit.Its 17.43, Will Claye takes the lead.

2:44:52 > 2:44:56Where did that come from? All from the running, all from the speed he

2:44:56 > 2:45:00generated on the runway, loads of speed which you can convert into a

2:45:00 > 2:45:05great hop, a great active is that I kept it going into the sandpit.Back

2:45:05 > 2:45:14to the pole vault. Anzhelika Sidorova, 4.85, gets it! Oh my

2:45:14 > 2:45:18goodness, that has got to be a gold medal winning jump! It's not

2:45:18 > 2:45:24confirmed, but we've seen Sandi Morris and Katerina Stefanidi foul.

2:45:24 > 2:45:32The first chance, first-time clearances, right across the board.

2:45:32 > 2:45:37Perfect jumping.

2:45:39 > 2:45:49She looks to be on form. That could easily go to 4.90. She is looking

2:45:49 > 2:45:54unbeatable at the moment. Morris has been jumping really nicely, capable

2:45:54 > 2:46:00certainly going clear. But the first clearance is very significant

2:46:00 > 2:46:07because the other athletes will have to jump higher to go ahead of

2:46:07 > 2:46:14Sidorova, twice European champion indoors and out. So, athletes can

2:46:14 > 2:46:18choose to pass. I think Morris is doing a bit of a strategic

2:46:18 > 2:46:27assessment.That is interesting, shaking the hand of your opposition.

2:46:27 > 2:46:32She might have been passing that she gave her opposition well done and

2:46:32 > 2:46:38prepared herself. That is the spray they put on top of the pole to give

2:46:38 > 2:46:46them some extra tacky so they can hold on to the pole.Morris in your

2:46:46 > 2:46:52shot is in second place, joint with Stefanidi, who has fouled. We know

2:46:52 > 2:46:56the three medals but we do not know where they are going. Morris has

2:46:56 > 2:47:05chosen to pass, as we expected. A real cat and mouse now.You have got

2:47:05 > 2:47:10silver, pretty much guaranteed. Stefanidi files in this height...

2:47:10 > 2:47:16That is the tactic. Can you outjump Sidorova and go to 90 which Sidorova

2:47:16 > 2:47:24has not done this year but Morris has? It is cat and mouse. Gets to be

2:47:24 > 2:47:32a bit of a chess game in the end.A new

2:47:32 > 2:47:35new height of 4.90. Looks like Morris will be the first athlete to

2:47:35 > 2:47:43attempt the height. If you get it, you have a really good chance of

2:47:43 > 2:47:53getting gold.Sidorova will get three chances but the other two

2:47:53 > 2:48:06girls will only get two. Back carried, that bowel.

2:48:06 > 2:48:09carried, that bowel. Three consecutive fouls. -- that carried,

2:48:09 > 2:48:23that foul. Three silvers in global competition, including this one, and

2:48:23 > 2:48:29the Olympics, and the outdoor World Championships. Often referred to as

2:48:29 > 2:48:33the bridesmaid. A bit unfair because she has produced brilliant jumps

2:48:33 > 2:48:39when it matters time and again but never quite got on the top spot. And

2:48:39 > 2:48:44she do it this time around? Morris of the United States. The first

2:48:44 > 2:48:53athlete to attempt this new height. She has come down on that. That was

2:48:53 > 2:48:57absolutely great. She pulled down on the pole for me a little bit and

2:48:57 > 2:49:04that forced her to go straight up and not penetrate in. You can move

2:49:04 > 2:49:09the upright. That top and pulling like a lever, you get a bit more

2:49:09 > 2:49:14bend and it takes longer to uncoil but its sacrifices the momentum

2:49:14 > 2:49:18forwards into the bed and that puts the bar in the wrong place.I liked

2:49:18 > 2:49:24the look on her face. It is not look of disappointment but of optimism.

2:49:24 > 2:49:32She knows she is capable of getting that.A nod from her coach. She has

2:49:32 > 2:49:42done this before. She has a personal best of 4.95 and she has cleared

2:49:42 > 2:49:494.90 this year. She must be confident and go for it.Stefanidi

2:49:49 > 2:49:52in exactly the same position as Morris, carrying that foul from the

2:49:52 > 2:50:02previous height. This is the only title she has never won. This, to

2:50:02 > 2:50:10complete the set. And, I said earlier that she tends to produce it

2:50:10 > 2:50:17when it matters. What an understatement but that time is now.

2:50:17 > 2:50:20Stefanidi with a really good chance of taking gold issue goes clear at

2:50:20 > 2:50:30this attempt. 4.90, first time of asking. No comments did not like it.

2:50:30 > 2:50:39She has not looked her consistent self. She had a cold last weekend

2:50:39 > 2:50:42and looked a little out of sorts and was under pressure but responded

2:50:42 > 2:50:48well. She does not look on top of her game this evening. Not really. I

2:50:48 > 2:50:55would have to agree with that. And it is not going well, she has the

2:50:55 > 2:51:00stand set at 18, which means the bar is as far back as it would go at 80

2:51:00 > 2:51:10centimetres. Again, that means the polls she is using is a bit soft.

2:51:10 > 2:51:16polls she is using is a bit soft. -- pole.

2:51:16 > 2:51:20pole. Next the 400 metres final for men. The United States with a couple

2:51:20 > 2:51:27of athletes but I am not sure they will be heading for a one, two in

2:51:27 > 2:51:36this one.

2:51:36 > 2:51:46this one.The Trinidad and Tobago athlete, Deon Lendore. Aldrich

2:51:46 > 2:51:50Bailey Junior took second in the US Championships, running in that the

2:51:50 > 2:51:57race. The Americans had many, many high-quality athletes in this event.

2:51:57 > 2:52:03Michael Cherry, the US champion. He and Bailey Junior are somewhat damn

2:52:03 > 2:52:12the rankings in terms of time this year. -- down the rankings. Mass

2:52:12 > 2:52:16lack is only half a second off the time that brought him the world

2:52:16 > 2:52:21record.

2:52:22 > 2:52:27record. -- Maslak. Santos got the silver medal at London. He might be

2:52:27 > 2:52:38the man to beat, Oscar Husillos.

2:52:38 > 2:52:43the man to beat, Oscar Husillos. A good evening for Spain so far. They

2:52:43 > 2:52:51took silver in the 800 metres. The ever-changing 800 metres. Much

2:52:51 > 2:52:55attention focused on Maslak as he goes for a hat-trick of world indoor

2:52:55 > 2:53:00title. Can he find that form? He improved from the first round where

2:53:00 > 2:53:05he got it slightly wrong. He was better in the semifinal and went out

2:53:05 > 2:53:11harder but Husillos in lane six has been running so, so strongly. He cut

2:53:11 > 2:53:19his Spanish indoor record yesterday. What can Michael Cherry do in lane

2:53:19 > 2:53:23three, the US champion? Bailey inside him, the two Americans going

2:53:23 > 2:53:37in two and three outside. Lendl and Maslak goes in four.

2:53:37 > 2:53:45Maslak goes in four. The men's hundred metres. Look at Maslak in

2:53:45 > 2:53:52lane four! Already alongside Santos. I am sure that Michael Cherry has

2:53:52 > 2:53:55hit the line. Is he racing for nothing at all us something better

2:53:55 > 2:54:06than that? Now staring down at the cones as they break. Husillos from

2:54:06 > 2:54:12Santos and then Maslak and Ben Cherry. Santos trying to chase him

2:54:12 > 2:54:17down. Michael Cherry alongside. A long way clear and looking for

2:54:17 > 2:54:24Spanish gold in the 400 metres. Santos is not going to get there, or

2:54:24 > 2:54:33is he? Husillos holds on with Santos in second and Maslak inferred.

2:54:33 > 2:54:3844.93, a championship record. He gets quicker and quicker. From first

2:54:38 > 2:54:42round to semifinal and final now. What a way to win gold and red gold

2:54:42 > 2:54:47at the world indoors for Spain and Oscar Husillos, he was the man to

2:54:47 > 2:54:55beat. The Spanish fans celebrate for the gold for Oscar Husillos. In fact

2:54:55 > 2:55:01it is a European record as well. It was long held by the great German

2:55:01 > 2:55:07athlete going back to 1988 and Husillos has taken that as well.

2:55:07 > 2:55:10Championship record, European record, gold medal in the Spanish

2:55:10 > 2:55:16flags can at last.

2:55:16 > 2:55:21flags can at last. Maslak and Santos were in the bronze medal position.

2:55:21 > 2:55:28Cherry from the United States might be disqualified in any case. You

2:55:28 > 2:55:32were watching in an earlier round and you said this man looks good and

2:55:32 > 2:55:41didn't heed tonight?!We were chatting thing who we thought would

2:55:41 > 2:55:47win and I thought Husillos would be the boy. He had the pace to attack

2:55:47 > 2:55:52the first 200 without overextending. Now he has done it in new territory,

2:55:52 > 2:55:57to be honest. This is a superb display of how to run indoor 400

2:55:57 > 2:56:03metre running. He stayed strong on the last lap. Only in the last ten

2:56:03 > 2:56:10did his legs start to buckle. What a return to form by Santos. They have

2:56:10 > 2:56:16to hand it to Husillos. That is a world shattering performance to run

2:56:16 > 2:56:23sub 45 seconds. Absolutely superb. Gold for Spain.

2:56:25 > 2:56:29Gold for Spain.Morris, a second chance to go clear at this new

2:56:29 > 2:56:33height. No one yet has got it. Morrison silver medal position. She

2:56:33 > 2:56:42has been I her elbow. --

2:56:42 > 2:56:50has been I her elbow. -- icing her elbow. Morris of the United

2:56:50 > 2:56:54elbow. Morris of the United States, 4.90. She gets it. Possibly a gold

2:56:54 > 2:57:03winning medal jump. A beautiful jump. Morris... Two athletes remain.

2:57:03 > 2:57:14For now though, cheered out in front. -- she is out in front.

2:57:14 > 2:57:25Choosing to pass at 4.85, 4.90 is equal to the championship record and

2:57:25 > 2:57:40puts her in the gold medal spot. For now. We still have Sidorova.

2:57:40 > 2:57:47Stefanidi also still to take her last attempt. Remember she carried

2:57:47 > 2:57:51that foul, so that was the last chance. Stefanidi, to match that

2:57:51 > 2:58:01jump.That was close, so close. Stefanidi bowels out with a bronze

2:58:01 > 2:58:08medal. --

2:58:08 > 2:58:17medal. -- bows out. She has to settle for bronze. At the moment, it

2:58:17 > 2:58:24is Morris who has gone into the gold medal position and Sidorova, who has

2:58:24 > 2:58:32looked very cool, calm and collected at all of the heights so far. Just

2:58:32 > 2:58:41that one foul, or failure, at this height. If she clears 4.90, she goes

2:58:41 > 2:58:46back into first place because she is on one foul against her name

2:58:46 > 2:58:53compared with Morris, who has six fouls, I think.Total fouls at the

2:58:53 > 2:59:01current height. The present height is 4.90.Five fouls in fact.

2:59:01 > 2:59:10Apologies. So, Sidorova to go back into the lead. Silence around the

2:59:10 > 2:59:18stadium. That was a good effort. It is the second failure. She is not

2:59:18 > 2:59:23out yet because, as Tony pointed out little while ago, she did have a

2:59:23 > 2:59:29clearance at the previous height. So, that is two fouls. She may pass

2:59:29 > 2:59:34because she needs more to go back ahead of Morris.I think if she

2:59:34 > 2:59:41clears 4.90, she goes back into the lead. So, she has one more.Bextor

2:59:41 > 2:59:46show you the result from the men's 400 metres, unofficial at the

2:59:46 > 2:59:56moment. It might not matter to Michael Cheryl.

3:00:01 > 3:00:04Michael Cheryl. Oscar Husillos, championship record and European

3:00:04 > 3:00:12record. An extraordinary run for the gold medal.

3:00:12 > 3:00:18Next up on the track, the women's 1500 metres final, featuring a

3:00:18 > 3:00:25Scottish runner. COMMENTATOR:

3:00:25 > 3:00:28Laura Muir stretches away and comes to win the gold medal for Great

3:00:28 > 3:00:37Britain. Look how fast she is going. She's now got two gold medals. She's

3:00:37 > 3:00:45a champion again!Laura Muir.Laura Muir, one last effort! She's

3:00:45 > 3:00:51definitely got a medal. What colour will it be?Indoors is something she

3:00:51 > 3:00:57excels at. GABBY LOGAN:

3:00:57 > 3:01:04A bronze on might one, 1500 metres tonight. She will be inspired by her

3:01:04 > 3:01:05Scottish team-mate Eilidh Doyle taking

3:01:05 > 3:01:07Scottish team-mate Eilidh Doyle taking the bronze tonight in that

3:01:07 > 3:01:11400 metres and she's more than capable of mixing it herself onto

3:01:11 > 3:01:15the podium tonight, Laura?She is, you've called it, it's all about

3:01:15 > 3:01:18tactics, it's about being in the right place at the right time to

3:01:18 > 3:01:23strike. If anyone can do it, Laura can. But it's about staying focused.

3:01:23 > 3:01:36She's in good shape, she's in good enough shape to challenge here for a

3:01:37 > 3:01:40medal but going to be really tough out there. This is her last major

3:01:40 > 3:01:42championships for a while, she's not running in the Commonwealth

3:01:42 > 3:01:44Championships. We haven't updated you on the mend's 800-metre medal

3:01:44 > 3:01:46ceremony that isn't happening at the moment because of a disqualification

3:01:46 > 3:01:49that is still standing, but Sidorova is about to go. Here's Steve

3:01:49 > 3:01:49Backley.

3:01:49 > 3:01:50is about to go. Here's Steve Backley.

3:01:50 > 3:01:54COMMENTATOR: She looks like she will have her

3:01:54 > 3:01:59third attempt at 4.90, she's just watched Sandi Morris go clear. There

3:01:59 > 3:02:10she is on the right, with Katie Nageotte.

3:02:10 > 3:02:17Nageotte. Sidorova, I to nothing, third attempt at 4.90, she does.

3:02:17 > 3:02:22It's a brilliant job.That's pressure, isn't it? That's pressure.

3:02:22 > 3:02:26Clapping her hands, there is a mixture of emotions there, well done

3:02:26 > 3:02:32for clearing 4.90, but I'm a bit upset you cleared 4.90! Competition

3:02:32 > 3:02:36continues.She equals the Championship record. Sidorova

3:02:36 > 3:02:43showing some character. But still in second place, so I say jump to

3:02:43 > 3:02:47nothing, it did of course keep her in the competition and now she gets

3:02:47 > 3:02:53three chances at the next height, which will be 4.95. Sandi Morris

3:02:53 > 3:02:58will get to go first. Morris is still in the lead, because she

3:02:58 > 3:03:01cleared at the second time of asking, Sidorova at the third time

3:03:01 > 3:03:11of asking. Relief for Sidorova and, well, it's going to take a new

3:03:11 > 3:03:20Championship record to decide between the two possibly.

3:03:24 > 3:03:27STEVE CRAM: Extraordinary news from the 400

3:03:27 > 3:03:33metres, Oscar Soliz is, the long-awaited Spanish gold and

3:03:33 > 3:03:45amazing run, has been disqualified -- Oscar Husillos. Santos thought he

3:03:45 > 3:03:49had the silver, he's been disqualified. As it stands, Pavel

3:03:49 > 3:03:54Maslak has the gold medal, has a third gold medal. An entirely

3:03:54 > 3:03:59bizarre circumstances, Maslak will get the gold, Michael Cherry the

3:03:59 > 3:04:03silver, Deon Lendore the bronze and disqualifications just come thick

3:04:03 > 3:04:06and fast at these championships. Spain will counter protest, I'm sure

3:04:06 > 3:04:10they will, but its official now. Oscar Husillos has nothing, he's

3:04:10 > 3:04:15been disqualified after thinking he had everything, the gold medal, the

3:04:15 > 3:04:18European record, the championship record, extraordinary.

3:04:18 > 3:04:21GABBY LOGAN: During the race I thought I saw Bush

3:04:21 > 3:04:22During the race I thought I saw Bush budget

3:04:22 > 3:04:22GABBY LOGAN: During the race I thought I saw Bush

3:04:22 > 3:04:27budget was a lane infringement, the same that -- the same rule that has

3:04:27 > 3:04:30netted 16 disqualifications, that would make it 18. Have you ever

3:04:30 > 3:04:35known anything like this?Know, and we should have known when an entire

3:04:35 > 3:04:39heat was disqualified yesterday in the 400 metres that this was going

3:04:39 > 3:04:43to get crazy, and it has got crazy. Ultimately as a championships you

3:04:43 > 3:04:47want the rules to stand and athletes need to abide by the rules, but this

3:04:47 > 3:04:51needs to be looked at, because now you've got so many, you know, people

3:04:51 > 3:04:54just saw arrays but it didn't finish the way they saw it. The results

3:04:54 > 3:04:59don't reflect what they saw and that's a problem. I don't know what

3:04:59 > 3:05:06the lane infringement is... You know, should you allow...Is a lane

3:05:06 > 3:05:11infringement doesn't affect somebody else's race?You can gain an

3:05:11 > 3:05:14advantage by being too far on the inside of the lane, that is why the

3:05:14 > 3:05:19line is there but maybe you might need to look at this and maybe it's

3:05:19 > 3:05:22two feet on the line, two steps on the line or something, because

3:05:22 > 3:05:26ultimately you can't continue to go this way, where you have all of

3:05:26 > 3:05:29these disqualifications.It's too late though, you can't have these

3:05:29 > 3:05:34flexible rules come you can't change it.Not going back and changing

3:05:34 > 3:05:36these results, but I'm saying going forward you don't want the next

3:05:36 > 3:05:44indoor Championships you don't want this...Nobody...People won't come!

3:05:44 > 3:05:50Yerbury is not just in the 400s, three in the 3000, one in the 800

3:05:50 > 3:05:50metres.

3:05:50 > 3:05:54three in the 3000, one in the 800 metres. Here it is, you've got

3:05:54 > 3:05:59Aldrich Bailey on the inside, Michael Cherry on the inside, so the

3:05:59 > 3:06:03winner was Husillos on the outside. So far he's getting close to the

3:06:03 > 3:06:12line, then off the line... I didn't see anything there.I think the

3:06:12 > 3:06:16incident happened earlier on, on the first bend, actually, Michael. You

3:06:16 > 3:06:20could see him all to his running style as he came out of the blocks

3:06:20 > 3:06:24and ran the first turn, because this is at the break. I think the

3:06:24 > 3:06:28incident happened before that. You saw him physically alter, like, oh

3:06:28 > 3:06:33my goodness, I'm close to the line. Must have happened at the first

3:06:33 > 3:06:36curve.Maslak has been promoted to gold, which makes him the three-time

3:06:36 > 3:06:41winner

3:06:42 > 3:06:45winner of the indoor 400 metres, but not in the way he expected maybe.

3:06:45 > 3:06:47It's time now for the 1500 metres. Stay in your lanes, ladies! Of

3:06:47 > 3:06:51course Laura Muir of Great Britain, bronze-medallist at the 3000 metres,

3:06:51 > 3:06:55going in this. Steve Cram, what an extraordinary night.

3:06:55 > 3:06:57STEVE CRAM: I agree with Michael, it's become a

3:06:57 > 3:07:02bit of a farce and we can't see any judges out there, this is all being

3:07:02 > 3:07:07done from television, as far as we are aware, from video. It's not

3:07:07 > 3:07:09helpful, to be perfectly honest. I don't think any athletes are

3:07:09 > 3:07:20deliberately cheating. If they are, yes, you

3:07:20 > 3:07:22yes, you disqualify them, if thou getting an advantage, disqualify

3:07:22 > 3:07:24them, but it spoiled it for the public and everybody watching as

3:07:24 > 3:07:27well. The rules are rules, I guess, that is what they will say to us.

3:07:27 > 3:07:30Let's hope they all stay on their feet, they don't push and shove and

3:07:30 > 3:07:34they managed to not step on the line, on the inside, as we see

3:07:34 > 3:07:40Beatrice Chepkoech who may have an opportunity to upset the apple cart

3:07:40 > 3:07:47here. Asia brought, recently married to the American 1500 metre runner,

3:07:47 > 3:07:52hopefully he's given some helpful thoughts here. Jens B Dibaba, the

3:07:52 > 3:07:59gold-medallist in the 3000 metres. -- Ginza be Dibaba. Winny Chebet had

3:07:59 > 3:08:02to run the 800 metres this morning, she was registered for that as well,

3:08:02 > 3:08:10so she ran 2.18, had a trot around. Shelby Houlihan was in the 3000

3:08:10 > 3:08:14metres final, finished fifth, but a dangerous athletes and can finish

3:08:14 > 3:08:19quickly. Colleen Quigley, her team-mate, has been a little bit

3:08:19 > 3:08:25critical of some of the facilities here.

3:08:26 > 3:08:31here. Sifan Hassan, the silver medal in the 3000 for her, and she of

3:08:31 > 3:08:33course the defending champion in this particular event, the 1500

3:08:33 > 3:08:37metres. CHEERING

3:08:37 > 3:08:43I great reception for Laura Muir, has medal now in her bag to take

3:08:43 > 3:08:50home. Can she make it two? Arafi from Morocco, very experienced,

3:08:50 > 3:08:55could be a danger if any of the big names. Then we've got an extra one,

3:08:55 > 3:09:00Meraf Bahta, well, she wasn't disqualified. She was advanced into

3:09:00 > 3:09:05the final because somebody pushed her. She wasn't pushed, to be fair,

3:09:05 > 3:09:08Colleen Quigley accidentally caught her legs and she fell, so she has

3:09:08 > 3:09:19been advanced to this final. Well, Laura Muir knows Hassan and Dibaba

3:09:19 > 3:09:26really well and we know that on more than one occasion she has beaten

3:09:26 > 3:09:31them. But they've beaten her as well. Dibaba has it within herself,

3:09:31 > 3:09:38the world record holder in this event indoors and Laura Muir knows

3:09:38 > 3:09:45this is going to be tough. We are just getting and note that the jury

3:09:45 > 3:09:50of appeal are going to meet to discuss that 800 metres scenario

3:09:50 > 3:09:54with Drew Windle, who at the moment still remains disqualified. We have

3:09:54 > 3:09:58and have the medal ceremony for that event. We'll keep you up-to-date

3:09:58 > 3:10:04with what they decide. So Laura, she's in great shape. That's 3000

3:10:04 > 3:10:10metres was a tough race.

3:10:11 > 3:10:14metres was a tough race. She will still have that in her legs a bit,

3:10:14 > 3:10:19but all of them train for this. The other endurance athletes come back

3:10:19 > 3:10:23after the heats and will have had another 24 hours to refresh. Kenyan

3:10:23 > 3:10:33champion will be a threat. The women's 1500 metres final. So I'm

3:10:33 > 3:10:38not sure how quick they are going to go here, Paula, but given that they

3:10:38 > 3:10:45ran 4.4 for the last 1500 in the 3000 metres and 2.37 for the last,

3:10:45 > 3:10:53we may see a similar race, worries about the last 800 metres. The first

3:10:53 > 3:10:57lap looks slow because they are bunched up. It looked like Chepkoech

3:10:57 > 3:11:02may go to the front to take the race by the scruff of the neck but this

3:11:02 > 3:11:05is the kind of face we see in a 10,000 metre race, so it's playing

3:11:05 > 3:11:09into the hands of the sprinters. You never want this slow. They were

3:11:09 > 3:11:14almost walking, almost tripping over each other. 40 seconds for the first

3:11:14 > 3:11:18200, and this is where your nerve has to hold. You don't train to run

3:11:18 > 3:11:2840 seconds for the first lap, but bear in mind Laura Muir has run

3:11:29 > 3:11:31bear in mind Laura Muir has run a sub... Laura Muir plays into her

3:11:31 > 3:11:36hands a little bit but there are big fast kickers here and Dibaba won't

3:11:36 > 3:11:39let this hang around too long at this sort of pace. Your Babineaux,

3:11:39 > 3:11:45she won't let this hang around too long and Laura Muir has run that but

3:11:45 > 3:11:50Hassan and Dibaba in Beijing, 1.57 in the middle of a 1500 metres, so

3:11:50 > 3:11:53they are capable of kicking away from this and the other girls in

3:11:53 > 3:11:57this field have to be aware of that. If you're in there and you don't

3:11:57 > 3:12:01think you can run a sub 200 minutes 8-ender as you should be trying to

3:12:01 > 3:12:05do something and make it into a 1500 metre race. Am not sure Chepkoech

3:12:05 > 3:12:10has that sort of pace, here we go, Dibaba has said enough is enough, we

3:12:10 > 3:12:14are off and she backs herself to run from the flood. She backs herself to

3:12:14 > 3:12:19be stronger, she backs herself to be able to run the finish out of

3:12:19 > 3:12:21everybody else. She has gone really hard, she is beginning to wind this

3:12:21 > 3:12:27up. That was a 33. The next 200 will be quicker. Hassan just a little

3:12:27 > 3:12:32nudge from Arafi to Chepkoech, Laura Muir in a good place. She will be

3:12:32 > 3:12:37patient here, doesn't want to get too involved when the big surges

3:12:37 > 3:12:41come, try and stay in contact and see what she can pick off in the

3:12:41 > 3:12:44latter stages. Dibaba leads, Chepkoech, then Hassan. Laura Muir

3:12:44 > 3:12:49running sensibly at this point. She has slotted herself back in, she's

3:12:49 > 3:12:53given a nudge to say you are not cutting in front of me and she had

3:12:53 > 3:12:57to go around her but she has allowed her past in front and she looks as

3:12:57 > 3:13:00though is she struggling to hang onto this group of five now? By

3:13:00 > 3:13:06bombing Laura Muir has to stay in contact here, no worries yet, she is

3:13:06 > 3:13:14realising the pace is on -- Laura Muir has to stay in contact here.

3:13:14 > 3:13:19The four athletes we thought would contest the medals are in the first

3:13:19 > 3:13:25four positions. Dibaba, Hassan, the defending champion, Laura Muir

3:13:25 > 3:13:28moving into third ahead of Chepkoech and Bay Street could pull clear

3:13:28 > 3:13:34because I don't know if Chepkoech has the pace to go with them. Now

3:13:34 > 3:13:37they are moving faster Laura Muir looks so much better. She needs to

3:13:37 > 3:13:45wait and be patient. These two are going...They are going flat out,

3:13:45 > 3:13:47Dibaba is stretching them, Laura Muir has to stay strong and find

3:13:47 > 3:13:52something in the last 50 metres. She's never been this close to these

3:13:52 > 3:13:57two at these stage so Dibaba and Hassan and Laura Muir, has to keep

3:13:57 > 3:14:01working hard here. Has got to keep pushing. Look how fast they are

3:14:01 > 3:14:07going here. It's remarkable. Flat out, a lap to go. Dibaba goes again.

3:14:07 > 3:14:12This is what she did in the 3000 metres. Laura Muir still hanging on.

3:14:12 > 3:14:17Hassan is letting a gap to go there. Laura can go past Hassan. Dibaba is

3:14:17 > 3:14:26going away. She can still get their! She has to try to get close! Half a

3:14:26 > 3:14:32metre closer, Dibaba goes again. The Ethiopian has got too much. Dibaba

3:14:32 > 3:14:36makes it a double gold medal performance. Laura Muir wins her

3:14:36 > 3:14:41second medal, it's a silver for Great Britain. A superb run from

3:14:41 > 3:14:47Laura Muir. Sifan Hassan the bronze, just for a moment I thought that

3:14:47 > 3:14:53maybe Dibaba was going to come under real pressure from Laura Muir. Let's

3:14:53 > 3:14:57hand it to Dibaba, two brilliant races and she ran the legs out of

3:14:57 > 3:15:01everybody else. She made in the way we thought she would, just wind it

3:15:01 > 3:15:05up, wind it up. Laura was great. Didn't overcommit too early, waited

3:15:05 > 3:15:11for a chance to get past Hassan, did her utmost best, as she always does,

3:15:11 > 3:15:16to try to chase down Dibaba. Dibaba was just too good but goodness me, a

3:15:16 > 3:15:21bronze and now a silver medal, great racing from three women, three top,

3:15:21 > 3:15:27top endurance women who have given us a great show in both events.

3:15:27 > 3:15:30Yeah, a really great race. I do know is Laura Muir might have run a

3:15:30 > 3:15:32personal best for the last 800 metres of that race because

3:15:32 > 3:15:37certainly she was moving very, very quickly. She just managed to reverse

3:15:37 > 3:15:42the medal position with Hassan from the 3000 metres and did it by

3:15:42 > 3:15:45judging the race to perfection. Dibaba had taken it by the scruff of

3:15:45 > 3:15:49the neck, she was winding it up, winding it up, more and more each

3:15:49 > 3:15:58lap and that's a very hard way to run. You can see the damage it was

3:15:58 > 3:16:00doing to the field. Chepkoech looked so easy running 4.02 last week,

3:16:00 > 3:16:05couldn't keep with that. Laura Muir waited and waited, Hassan tried to

3:16:05 > 3:16:10move it to close to Dibaba at that point. It could have been forgiven

3:16:10 > 3:16:14for thinking it was finishing a lap earlier here, all three of them were

3:16:14 > 3:16:19sprinting flat out. It was just hanging on. Laura doesn't even check

3:16:19 > 3:16:22up at the screen down the home straight, her eyes are focused in

3:16:22 > 3:16:25front. She's not worried about danger from behind. She's trying

3:16:25 > 3:16:35muster everything she can to give one last attack on the final lap.

3:16:37 > 3:16:41Even at this point he would think that Hassan made out kick Laura

3:16:41 > 3:16:51Muir. Having got the medal in the 3000 metres as well. Maybe she is

3:16:51 > 3:16:57determined to dig a little deeper. She is focusing on Dibaba. She has

3:16:57 > 3:17:01never at any point settled on the silver medal. She was not quite good

3:17:01 > 3:17:09enough tonight to get back at Dibaba. Two brilliant races from

3:17:09 > 3:17:14three wonderful women. What about Laura Muir law! She is full of

3:17:14 > 3:17:20determination and talents and now she is getting the timing right. Her

3:17:20 > 3:17:26race brain is working superbly well. Here, she is getting closer and

3:17:26 > 3:17:31closer, has Dibaba got anything left? Yes, she has. She has left

3:17:31 > 3:17:34something. She is the redoubtable competitor herself, particularly

3:17:34 > 3:17:40running from the front when it is going well. A stunning piece of

3:17:40 > 3:17:44running by all three women, particularly Laura Muir, a great

3:17:44 > 3:17:54reward. A bronze and silver. I have to say, I am sure Laura, and her

3:17:54 > 3:17:59coach, Andy Young, this is the medal that will mean a little bit more. A

3:17:59 > 3:18:031500 metres runner. She can do the long distance and the short distance

3:18:03 > 3:18:07but this is where her heart is. Winning a silver medal, superbly

3:18:07 > 3:18:18done. Dibaba up with two gold medals for her and Ethiopian. What an

3:18:18 > 3:18:22incredible couple of days for Laura Muir. On Thursday morning she was in

3:18:22 > 3:18:29a lecture. She had to get in a car, which was difficult with the snow

3:18:29 > 3:18:33full stop she got here late and competed in the 3000 metres on

3:18:33 > 3:18:41Friday. Here we are on Saturday with the silver medal. Paul alluded to

3:18:41 > 3:18:46it, that confidence and taking on the big names, the names that will

3:18:46 > 3:18:51be outdoors. These are the name she will beat in the big championships,

3:18:51 > 3:18:54if to get herself on to the rostrum in the future. She has had an

3:18:54 > 3:19:01amazing few days. She has had an amazing couple of days. Listening to

3:19:01 > 3:19:05Paul comic you do not know what she is capable of because she is so

3:19:05 > 3:19:10talented and she can push on from here. For all intents and purposes

3:19:10 > 3:19:17she is not in tiptop shape, she is in good shape. Juggling studying and

3:19:17 > 3:19:23training has been difficult.By her own admission she said she has not

3:19:23 > 3:19:27done the volume of training she did for Belgrade. It'll be interesting

3:19:27 > 3:19:32to see what she can do when she can devote more time to the sport. This

3:19:32 > 3:19:37will give her a big boost of confidence. She has come here and

3:19:37 > 3:19:43won a couple of medals and got ready for the outdoors. Next you'll be a

3:19:43 > 3:19:49real opportunity for her. She a potential medallist. Going into next

3:19:49 > 3:19:57year and the next two years. Now for a very exciting pole vault. Steve

3:19:57 > 3:20:05Backley. Morris is in the lead. Two fouls at this height. Both her and

3:20:05 > 3:20:11Sidorova have equalled the championship record of 4.19 metres.

3:20:11 > 3:20:18They have both fouled twice. -- 4.90 metres. It probably means a

3:20:18 > 3:20:25clearance here or either of them to take the gold, if both of them have

3:20:25 > 3:20:30fouled, then Morris will be handed the gold. Morris to go first for the

3:20:30 > 3:20:39USA. This looks really committed. Has it stayed up? It has. Morris

3:20:39 > 3:20:44with a beautiful jump. A smile on the face of Sidorova will stop she

3:20:44 > 3:20:54can respond but Morris, beautiful! Has she sucked the wind out of the

3:20:54 > 3:21:00sails of Sidorova? The bar is still wobbling and the judge waited until

3:21:00 > 3:21:04he was satisfied. They will study the bar I make sure it is on

3:21:04 > 3:21:10properly for the attempt of Sidorova. -- and make sure.Surely

3:21:10 > 3:21:17that is enough now. She has been a standout jumper, even from the other

3:21:17 > 3:21:23side were looking with the naked eye across the arena at Birmingham. She

3:21:23 > 3:21:28looks a class apart from the rest of the boulders. Sidorova has already

3:21:28 > 3:21:33taken to the runway. Even if Sidorova goes clear and matches this

3:21:33 > 3:21:42currency is still in second place. Just looking at her wryly smile, she

3:21:42 > 3:21:48still has to go.

3:21:49 > 3:21:52still has to go. -- matches this, she is still in second place. Will

3:21:52 > 3:21:59they make Sidorova wait while they present their hurdles athletes? That

3:21:59 > 3:22:05will be cruel.

3:22:07 > 3:22:13will be cruel. Their positions have been reversed. Sidorova, as we saw,

3:22:13 > 3:22:17a little while ago, if she goes clear, it will be a new lifetime

3:22:17 > 3:22:22best she has already done that this evening that she will stay in second

3:22:22 > 3:22:29place. Silence again. 4.95 will stop that was really close. It was really

3:22:29 > 3:22:37close will stop gold for Morris.

3:22:37 > 3:22:41close will stop gold for Morris. -- it was really close and gold for

3:22:41 > 3:22:48Morris. A succession of silver medals and finally she takes the

3:22:48 > 3:22:54gold. Sidorova as to settle for second but with the new lifetime

3:22:54 > 3:23:00best. Very entertaining. Gold for Morris and the USA. Congratulations

3:23:00 > 3:23:07all round.I feel sorry for Sidorova, having a clean record all

3:23:07 > 3:23:12the way up to 4.85 and then producing a personal best. You

3:23:12 > 3:23:17cannot ask for more than that in a major championships. An absolute

3:23:17 > 3:23:23best at the championships. That is a nice scene. They have been

3:23:23 > 3:23:27congratulating each other all through this competition. That

3:23:27 > 3:23:31camaraderie is brilliant to see. These are the gold and

3:23:31 > 3:23:36silver-medallists. Is up for a brilliant competition. Hugely

3:23:36 > 3:23:44entertaining. -- bands up. Morris, the best in the world, indoor

3:23:44 > 3:23:53champion.We have just seen the vault again. We're just seeing on

3:23:53 > 3:24:01the scorecard, the bar is being raised to 5.04 metres.

3:24:04 > 3:24:07raised to 5.04 metres. The lights dim around the arena and ready for

3:24:07 > 3:24:14the introduction of the finalists in the women's 60 metres hurdles. Three

3:24:14 > 3:24:22Americans go here. Can anyone challenge them? They are about to be

3:24:22 > 3:24:31introduced to the Birmingham crowd. Charlton, how well she has run so

3:24:31 > 3:24:42far. The new record so far in the semifinal, 7.80 nine.

3:24:47 > 3:24:53semifinal, 7.80 nine. -- 7.89. The youngest in the final, Amusan, the

3:24:53 > 3:25:01Nigerian.

3:25:01 > 3:25:08Nigerian. Cindy Roleder, the reigning European champion, won the

3:25:08 > 3:25:15indoor title in outdoors a couple of years ago. Nadine Visser is

3:25:15 > 3:25:23separating the Americans in the line-up. An astonishing run from

3:25:23 > 3:25:30this. Christina Manning seems to be on a mission here. Third at the US

3:25:30 > 3:25:37championships. Here because she won the overall indoor tour title.

3:25:37 > 3:25:46Nelvis, the fastest in the world this year. Kenny Harrison, we know

3:25:46 > 3:25:51she is fast. Can she deliver in a championship final? That is the one

3:25:51 > 3:26:00query about her. Harrison holds the world record outdoors over 100. We

3:26:00 > 3:26:12are looking at the possible world record going here.

3:26:13 > 3:26:217.86, and Jones has the championship record. The chance for the first

3:26:21 > 3:26:25ever medal sweep at the World Championship. It has never been done

3:26:25 > 3:26:32before. The wild card system allowed Manning in. So, Harrison, Nelvis and

3:26:32 > 3:26:37Manning. This set in the middle, flying in the semifinals. Pedersen

3:26:37 > 3:26:43of Norway, alongside Nelvis. One of the highest quality fine as we have

3:26:43 > 3:26:51had at the world indoor Championships.

3:26:51 > 3:27:03This, the final of the women's 60 metres hurdles.Stand up, please.

3:27:03 > 3:27:08Showing a green card, please. This is the first time we have really had

3:27:08 > 3:27:14the athletes being told to stand up and reset themselves. Colin Jackson

3:27:14 > 3:27:19alongside. Talking about Harrison, the beautiful hurdler. So fast. It

3:27:19 > 3:27:30is about doing it in the finals though. She is a dynamic hurdler.

3:27:30 > 3:27:34She has good technique. You hope she is not vulnerable when it comes to

3:27:34 > 3:27:40the highly pressured situations. She deserves a title. Will this be the

3:27:40 > 3:27:47one.

3:27:47 > 3:27:58one.They settle once more. Ready for the final.

3:28:05 > 3:28:13Harrison has taken it on the line. 7.70 and a championship record.

3:28:13 > 3:28:20Beats the time of Jones. We should never have doubted her ability to

3:28:20 > 3:28:23deliver on this stage. How fast she can run as Commissioner now she has

3:28:23 > 3:28:32the gold medal. -- how fast she has run! Manning celebrates her silver.

3:28:32 > 3:28:44A great run from Harrison. Just looking, will it be a one, two,

3:28:44 > 3:28:49three? No, what around from the Dutch athlete, Nadine Visser.

3:28:49 > 3:28:55Finally she has the title she has craved for so long.A very

3:28:55 > 3:29:01competitive run. Exactly what we would expect. The challenge

3:29:01 > 3:29:07initially by Manning. She could not hold on to the leg speed

3:29:07 > 3:29:13demonstrated by Harris. Let's have a look again. They both get out

3:29:13 > 3:29:17tremendously strong with a good technique. They are trying to hold

3:29:17 > 3:29:24their form and keep strong under the pressure. It pulls Harris ahead of

3:29:24 > 3:29:32the rest of the field. The Americans had been hoping for a one, two,

3:29:32 > 3:29:36three but Nelvis losing her balance at the end of the race and this was

3:29:36 > 3:29:42able to come through. She clattered that barrier which meant she could

3:29:42 > 3:29:45not going into a proper sprinting action off the final hurdle. She was

3:29:45 > 3:29:50not really getting into that race. Being away from the field would have

3:29:50 > 3:29:57had a bit of an effect. These two, the gold and silver-medallists.

3:29:57 > 3:30:02This, the bronze-medallist to the right of the screen. You can see how

3:30:02 > 3:30:08she pushes away. That is what drags into the next barrier. Nice and

3:30:08 > 3:30:13aggressive. It is controlled. Allows her to really get to the strong,

3:30:13 > 3:30:19sprinting speed that is necessary. Christina Manning just smiles and

3:30:19 > 3:30:25thinks, well done mate you have got me today! The smile of a champion

3:30:25 > 3:30:30and two stars and stripes fly alongside the Dutch flag. A great

3:30:30 > 3:30:35run by this to take the bronze medal. Nothing for Nelvis of the

3:30:35 > 3:30:39United States were no clean sweep. Not too bad to have gold and silver

3:30:39 > 3:30:45and gold for Harrison.

3:30:45 > 3:30:52So just to tidy it all up for you, Harrison with a championship record,

3:30:52 > 3:30:57eclipsing the mark Gough Lolo Jones. The Stena Manning with the silver,

3:30:57 > 3:31:01Nadine Visser with the bronze, Sharika Nelvis just out of things in

3:31:01 > 3:31:08fourth place. Ewan-macro Sandi Morris has won the competition and

3:31:08 > 3:31:14now she gets a chance to have a crack at a new, well, it would be a

3:31:14 > 3:31:20world record. Have a chat with Tony Minichiello as to what the world

3:31:20 > 3:31:26record is because there is confusion. 5.02, or 5.0 three.

3:31:26 > 3:31:33Officially 5.02 because the world-record holder jumps both those

3:31:33 > 3:31:37heights, I'll explain more in a second. A new world record, when

3:31:37 > 3:31:47sideways on that. -- she went sideways on that. So Sandi Morris,

3:31:47 > 3:31:55two more chances. A nod from her coach. Here's a little look back at

3:31:55 > 3:32:02the triple jump. We saw this earlier. This was Will Claye's

3:32:02 > 3:32:09fourth round jump. The double Olympic champion if it wasn't for

3:32:09 > 3:32:19his team-mate. He knew that was brilliant. We knew he'd done really,

3:32:19 > 3:32:23really, well, taken it beyond the reach of the best of the rest.

3:32:23 > 3:32:28Slightly below what we've seen in the past. Will Claye, well, I think

3:32:28 > 3:32:35he's fairly pleased with that. World leading jump, 17.43, ahead of Dos

3:32:35 > 3:32:46Santos, a new lifetime best for him.

3:32:54 > 3:33:04MUSIC

3:33:21 > 3:33:22Gabby Adcock -- GABBY LOGAN:

3:33:22 > 3:33:30He's the man to beat in the 60-metre final coming up shortly. Christian

3:33:30 > 3:33:33Coleman, silver-medallist in London, is now Steve Cram can take you

3:33:33 > 3:33:37through the medal ceremony for the heptathlon. What a thrilling end to

3:33:37 > 3:33:44this it was, Steve.Yeah, it was a superb last event, the 1000 metres,

3:33:44 > 3:33:48Kevin Ryan on doing so well in the pole vault and also a bronze medal

3:33:48 > 3:33:50going to Maicel Uibo, who had a great competition all the way

3:33:50 > 3:33:56through. Damian Garner, Warner, excuse me, almost did enough, almost

3:33:56 > 3:33:59took the silver but there is the champion adding to the world title

3:33:59 > 3:34:03he took last year and Steve, he wasn't at his best. He was to begin

3:34:03 > 3:34:07with and then normally have a cracking second day but not today.

3:34:07 > 3:34:13Well, do you know what, it was similar to Kat Johnson-Thompson's

3:34:13 > 3:34:16performance in many ways, he got the job done. He trains with Kat in the

3:34:16 > 3:34:22South of France. A solid performance.Ladies and gentlemen,

3:34:22 > 3:34:32the national land of France. -- National anthem of France.

3:34:40 > 3:34:50FRENCH NATIONAL ANTHEM PLAYS

3:35:20 > 3:35:25CHEERING AND APPLAUSE A very emotional Kevin Mayer of

3:35:25 > 3:35:34France, Liam Finn ringing around the arena here in Birmingham -- the

3:35:34 > 3:35:38anthem ringing around the arena here in Birmingham. He is the double

3:35:38 > 3:35:41world champion, outdoors and indoors, in the heptathlon and

3:35:41 > 3:35:44deserving winner by one of the smallest margins, five points ahead

3:35:44 > 3:35:50of Damian Warner, Maicel Uibo taking the bronze forest Dhoni. A bit of

3:35:50 > 3:35:55news for you, in the 800 metres we are hearing that the American Drew

3:35:55 > 3:36:00Windle has been reinstated. They are going to have that medal ceremony

3:36:00 > 3:36:04very shortly indeed. Elliot Giles will not be receiving the bronze

3:36:04 > 3:36:07medal, sadly. It's not good news from a British perspective, but

3:36:07 > 3:36:14probably a fair result in the end. GABBY LOGAN:

3:36:14 > 3:36:19Thank you very much, Steve, one medal that is secure is a silver for

3:36:19 > 3:36:23Laura Muir in the 1500 metres. We spoke to her.

3:36:23 > 3:36:28I spoke to you after 3000 metres, bronze, you said you would use that

3:36:28 > 3:36:32medal to inspire and improve your performances. That worked quickly,

3:36:32 > 3:36:37didn't it?Yeah, that bronze gave me confidence. I can battle it out with

3:36:37 > 3:36:41these girls and control the race and I felt so strong in a last lap I

3:36:41 > 3:36:44just went for it.There was a crucial moment when it broke down to

3:36:44 > 3:36:51the three of you.

3:36:53 > 3:36:56the three of you. Did you know it was just the three of you at that

3:36:56 > 3:37:00point?No, I didn't dare look back. I ran as far as I can, it doesn't

3:37:00 > 3:37:03make a difference if we've broken away or not. I tried as hard as I

3:37:03 > 3:37:06could.That was it, it was such a massive final lap. How incredible

3:37:06 > 3:37:09did it feel as you passed into the silver position and knew you would

3:37:09 > 3:37:14continue this through.I didn't know until the finish line, Hassan is a

3:37:14 > 3:37:16top-quality athlete, a multiple medallist, so I didn't take anything

3:37:16 > 3:37:22for granted once I passed. I knew she would be fighting behind me.

3:37:22 > 3:37:25When you started this week, you were at university, did you honestly

3:37:25 > 3:37:31believe you would be finishing the week is a double world medallist?

3:37:31 > 3:37:35Honestly, no. The competition was so tough I thought if I could medal in

3:37:35 > 3:37:38one it would be in a great achievement and to medal in two and

3:37:38 > 3:37:44get a silver is, I'm so pleased. Why the athletes UberEats there, they

3:37:44 > 3:37:51will be on the outdoor season as well. I asked you before the 3000,

3:37:51 > 3:37:55these two medals, what will it mean to you to know you can come here and

3:37:55 > 3:37:58you can challenge the best in the world? It's such a confidence

3:37:58 > 3:38:03booster. I've been there or thereabouts, fourth, fifth, sixth,

3:38:03 > 3:38:05seventh in global championships prior to this and it's about time I

3:38:05 > 3:38:09got on the podium and I've done the double here. You are finishing up

3:38:09 > 3:38:14your studies, he will be moving into full-time athlete. Your performances

3:38:14 > 3:38:19will only improve as a result, surely?I hope so. It certainly

3:38:19 > 3:38:23means more recovery. I hope to continue the veterinary alongside it

3:38:23 > 3:38:27may be in all true role. It will give me an opportunity to recover

3:38:27 > 3:38:30better between sessions and get away or training trips which will be

3:38:30 > 3:38:36really useful.Thank you, Laura. You can go and enjoy this one finally.

3:38:36 > 3:38:40Thank you, cheers. GABBY LOGAN:

3:38:40 > 3:38:40Confirmation

3:38:40 > 3:38:43GABBY LOGAN: Confirmation that Drew Windle was

3:38:43 > 3:38:47reinstated, it was almost quite farcical going on, Drew and Elliot

3:38:47 > 3:38:53Giles waiting imposition at the medal ceremony to wait for the news,

3:38:53 > 3:38:59they were waiting for 45 minutes but sadly Elliot, it was probably the

3:38:59 > 3:39:04right result in the end as Steve said. Earlier on this evening we saw

3:39:04 > 3:39:10Eilidh Doyle, captain of the British team so many times and a real post a

3:39:10 > 3:39:12goal for Scotland in the Commonwealth Games, she's done so

3:39:12 > 3:39:17well with the 4x400 but tonight was her night as an individual. She's a

3:39:17 > 3:39:21hurdler but over the flat she took bronze medal and we

3:39:21 > 3:39:23hurdler but over the flat she took bronze medal and we spoke to her

3:39:23 > 3:39:25afterwards. Eilidh Doyle, the last time I spoke

3:39:25 > 3:39:29to you in this mix zone I was commiserations and you were out of

3:39:29 > 3:39:35your door on the way to the pub. 24 hours later, bronze medal. Wow, what

3:39:35 > 3:39:45a twist of emotions.

3:39:46 > 3:39:50I I mean, last night I didn't quite believe it until anything had been

3:39:50 > 3:39:51sorted because the disqualifications came through, there were appeals. I

3:39:51 > 3:39:54was apprehensive about whether I would be in the final or not. Then

3:39:54 > 3:39:56it was confirmed, to have another opportunity, a great opportunity and

3:39:56 > 3:40:01if I could dig deep and try to win a medal I had a chance to do that.A

3:40:01 > 3:40:04week ago we saw you in Glasgow, you were really aggressive and that's

3:40:04 > 3:40:07what you were today. It was being aggressive that put you in

3:40:07 > 3:40:13contention and got you that bronze. Your bobbin yeah, I tried to work it

3:40:13 > 3:40:17on the bend and I knew if I got ahead I could carry on my running

3:40:17 > 3:40:21nice and smoothly and not have to chop too much. I tried to hang on

3:40:21 > 3:40:25and get the silver. The calibre of athletes in that race, in particular

3:40:25 > 3:40:34two Americans, to be so close to them, I'm really happy with that.

3:40:36 > 3:40:38STEVE CRAM: Now we move straight from a

3:40:38 > 3:40:41delighted Eilidh Doyle to the anticipation of one of the biggest

3:40:41 > 3:40:43events of the weekend, the

3:40:43 > 3:40:43anticipation of one of the biggest events of the weekend, the men's

3:40:43 > 3:40:43anticipation of one of the biggest events of the weekend, the men's 60

3:40:43 > 3:40:49metres. Misses Emre Zafer Barnes competing for Turkey, then we're

3:40:49 > 3:40:57going to get to some of the big names here. Zhenye Xie, they are not

3:40:57 > 3:41:03coming out in lane order. We'll get the big names in a second, he needs

3:41:03 > 3:41:08to be pointed where the star is. It's up that way. What a great

3:41:08 > 3:41:12performance from this man to make it into the final, Hassan Taftian and

3:41:12 > 3:41:18if you weren't with us earlier, CJ Ujah. To the semifinals. In 2017 he

3:41:18 > 3:41:23was top man in 60 metres. Ronnie Baker, not this year, he's quick,

3:41:23 > 3:41:28he's quick, he's very quick. He will want to medal here. What about this

3:41:28 > 3:41:34man here? Bingtian Su, a superb 60-metre runner from China. Can he

3:41:34 > 3:41:38upset the apple cart and upset the man who is the fastest ever in the

3:41:38 > 3:41:47world at 60 metres, Christian Coleman of the USA?

3:41:47 > 3:41:50Coleman of the USA? Well, the last time the world record was broken in

3:41:50 > 3:41:55this championship was all the way back in 1988, 1987 actually, a

3:41:55 > 3:42:00certain Ben Johnson, and he was disqualified, the world record was

3:42:00 > 3:42:05given to Lee McRae, who finished second. That was 6.50, a

3:42:05 > 3:42:10championship best performance for Rhys Green 6.4 two. Can Christian

3:42:10 > 3:42:13Coleman go quicker than that here? First of all he needs to beat those

3:42:13 > 3:42:19meant to win the gold medal. -- beat those men. When you are as good and

3:42:19 > 3:42:23quick as he is there's always the chance of something extra. It's a

3:42:23 > 3:42:26fast track. There's a great atmosphere tonight. We've had all

3:42:26 > 3:42:32sorts going on. Are we in for something special in this 60-metre

3:42:32 > 3:42:43final? Jan Volko in lane one, Barnes lane two, Zhenye Xie in five, Ronnie

3:42:43 > 3:42:48Baker of United States in six, Hassan Taftian in Iran in seven and

3:42:48 > 3:42:54Sean Safo-Antwi in lane eight.

3:42:57 > 3:43:07Sean Safo-Antwi in lane eight. The men's 60-metre final.

3:43:09 > 3:43:20Coleman wins it, a championship record, 6.37. It was a great race.

3:43:20 > 3:43:24They were closer than you might have expected. Coleman is the world

3:43:24 > 3:43:29champion. Adds it to his silver medal V won outdoors last year. It

3:43:29 > 3:43:35was quick, it was very, very quick. But the other guys put in a superb

3:43:35 > 3:43:38performance to make sure that he couldn't relax at all. Ronnie Baker

3:43:38 > 3:43:44and Bingtian Su, close. It's Bingtian Su who gets the silver

3:43:44 > 3:43:48medal. But Christian Coleman thou got a good start. Never ever was

3:43:48 > 3:43:54able to relax -- he was never able to relax, he had to keep his foot

3:43:54 > 3:43:57down all the way through. They kept him honest. They ran really, really

3:43:57 > 3:44:06well. Bingtian Su rewarded with a silver medal. Baker got the bronze.

3:44:06 > 3:44:146.37, a championship record, 6.37 is the official time. Well, something

3:44:14 > 3:44:18special will stopif anybody was there in doubt about what this young

3:44:18 > 3:44:23man is capable of I think they've all be Lynn eliminated. He handled

3:44:23 > 3:44:27the pressure well. He came into this as a favourite. He didn't only run a

3:44:27 > 3:44:32very quick time, he won this gold medal with the pressure on him.

3:44:32 > 3:44:36That's what is the most impressive thing about this performance for me.

3:44:36 > 3:44:42Repeat, repeat, repeat, that's what's necessary. Bang, out of the

3:44:42 > 3:44:46blocks, hard, well, no real mistakes this time. It could still be a bit

3:44:46 > 3:44:49better, he could get his feet under him much quicker than that which

3:44:49 > 3:44:53will assist his performance, but look at everybody charging with him.

3:44:53 > 3:44:57There was no let up, there was no way that he could truly relax in

3:44:57 > 3:45:04this field. For me, that's a good sign, showing wraps when it comes

3:45:04 > 3:45:07down doors, when the pressure is on, this time around he may be able to

3:45:07 > 3:45:10hold it together. He is working much harder than we saw him in the early

3:45:10 > 3:45:13rounds, that's pretty clear, but it's a final and he's running one of

3:45:13 > 3:45:20the fastest times we've ever seen on this planet.

3:45:24 > 3:45:29If you look at Christian Coleman here, he is doing everything he

3:45:29 > 3:45:33needed to do and exactly what we expected of him will stop the

3:45:33 > 3:45:38situation here for him was not to make any mistakes. He knew he had

3:45:38 > 3:45:43the ability to win this race and to break the world record again if the

3:45:43 > 3:45:49opportunity was there. This was all about winning medals. He was

3:45:49 > 3:45:54consistent. Repeat, repeat, repeat. A couple of little stumbles, trying

3:45:54 > 3:46:01to do the short step out of the blocks. No real issues here. Both

3:46:01 > 3:46:13these athletes, both Berry efficient.

3:46:13 > 3:46:17efficient. Su is very powerful but for Christian, it is all about that

3:46:17 > 3:46:23speed. The ability to pick up his feet and put them down quickly.

3:46:23 > 3:46:28Close at the line for second and third. Ronnie Baker from the US in

3:46:28 > 3:46:37third spot. The Chinese art on the rise. Xie was force in that race

3:46:37 > 3:46:47with a new record.Morris for an undisputed world record. That was

3:46:47 > 3:46:55possibly her best. She'll ready had the gold medal wrapped up. A great

3:46:55 > 3:47:00performance earlier this evening. Possibly went off the boil a little

3:47:00 > 3:47:05bit but a great evening's work, all the same. A gold medal for Morris

3:47:05 > 3:47:12and a championship record, equalling her lifetime best indoors. No world

3:47:12 > 3:47:17record. Maybe that is something she can build on. Three hours and 15

3:47:17 > 3:47:20minutes since the start of that competition and for Morris, the gold

3:47:20 > 3:47:28medal.It was quick for Chris Coleman in the 60 metres. His

3:47:28 > 3:47:34parents said, when he was little, when he was two, he used to be

3:47:34 > 3:47:40frightened of the Hoover. Whether this is something special for him

3:47:40 > 3:47:44going forward when he will be cleaning up the gold medals

3:47:44 > 3:47:54hopefully in the future. Excellent from Su and Ronnie Baker in third

3:47:54 > 3:48:00with .40 four.Begins sprinter who truly came to our attention in the

3:48:00 > 3:48:08middle of that genetic evening when Usain Bolt was different -- de

3:48:08 > 3:48:17droned by Warren Gatland, he did not get the plaudits he deserved. He was

3:48:17 > 3:48:2122 on Tuesday could be talked about what potential he could have over

3:48:21 > 3:48:27100 metres.

3:48:27 > 3:48:31100 metres. -- and we talked. He wanted to be an American footballer.

3:48:31 > 3:48:38I don't think he will regret his change of career now.He made it

3:48:38 > 3:48:42through the American system as a collegiate athlete. He came onto the

3:48:42 > 3:48:47scene of the 100-metre runner and had a very impressive race. We

3:48:47 > 3:48:54showed how far out he was at 50 metres in that race against Usain

3:48:54 > 3:49:02Bolt and Justin Gatlin 's. He had real potential.

3:49:02 > 3:49:11real potential. Now Championship ownership will be an interesting

3:49:11 > 3:49:16Championships. Just the ability to run against the best but this is

3:49:16 > 3:49:19great execution. He was very consistent. Time and again we see

3:49:19 > 3:49:23him do the same things. That is the mark of a world-class athlete who

3:49:23 > 3:49:27has the opportunity to win medals time and again over his career

3:49:27 > 3:49:33because he is very consistent and has the right attitude. Very

3:49:33 > 3:49:37level-headed in terms of his emotions. That is the sort of

3:49:37 > 3:49:40mindset that most champions are made up, especially early in their

3:49:40 > 3:49:45careers, like he is forced we may see some personality coming out of

3:49:45 > 3:49:49him later, that would be fantastic will stop once he gets into his

3:49:49 > 3:49:55career amateur oils... He is doing the right thing right now. -- and

3:49:55 > 3:50:03Michels. He doesn't want to put additional pressure on himself.The

3:50:03 > 3:50:08best thing to do is to keep winning. He is learning to do that. I have

3:50:08 > 3:50:16seen him interviewed. He is dusty to learn. He is not intimidated. He

3:50:16 > 3:50:23loves being here, to be at his best. We would talk about Su and the

3:50:23 > 3:50:28Chinese sprinting dynasty that is coming. Two and four they finished.

3:50:28 > 3:50:38Right now the women's 400 metres medal ceremony, featuring Eilidh

3:50:38 > 3:50:42Doyle for Britain and Scotland.A great run for a litre oil. Better

3:50:42 > 3:50:46known as a hurdler. She has medals that that discipline that she will

3:50:46 > 3:50:53have one on the flat here. She very nearly got in between the two

3:50:53 > 3:50:58Americans for a silver. It will be bronze for a litre oil in an event

3:50:58 > 3:51:06where America is strong favourite. -- it will be bronze for Eilidh

3:51:06 > 3:51:14Doyle. Silver in the Commonwealth Games. Over 400 metres flat, she has

3:51:14 > 3:51:23a bronze at the world indoors now. Used her expedience and very nearly,

3:51:23 > 3:51:31not split the Americans, 22 and another great talent but so many

3:51:31 > 3:51:35have come through the American system with the numbers they have.

3:51:35 > 3:51:54Wimbley was second in the US Championships behind the

3:51:55 > 3:52:00Carlow -- Okolo. She takes the title. There might have been

3:52:00 > 3:52:07stronger competition had to people not been disqualified. She won by

3:52:07 > 3:52:15owners to second from Wimbley. Gold for Okolo and gold for the United

3:52:15 > 3:52:26States.The national anthem for the United States of America.

3:52:38 > 3:52:46NATIONAL ANTHEM OF USA PLAYS

3:53:18 > 3:53:26NATIONAL ANTHEM OF USA PLAYS

3:53:32 > 3:53:36And a word for Zoey Clark who made the final as well in the women's 400

3:53:36 > 3:53:44metres. She and Eilidh Doyle will go into the relay squad and strengthen

3:53:44 > 3:53:50that. Phyllis Francis as well perhaps flooding into the American

3:53:50 > 3:53:56quartet. The world record might be under threat tomorrow. Bronze medal

3:53:56 > 3:54:02in the individual for Eilidh Doyle, silver medal to Wimbley and Okolo

3:54:02 > 3:54:09with the gold.

3:54:09 > 3:54:11with the gold.Congratulations to a litre oil. We will see another

3:54:11 > 3:54:17Scottish athletes step up onto the podium shortly. -- to Eilidh Doyle.

3:54:17 > 3:54:21We have time to hear from the new champion of the world over 60

3:54:21 > 3:54:24metres. Christian Coleman is with JJ charmers.

3:54:28 > 3:54:33You have been so dominant in this championship. You are an undisputed

3:54:33 > 3:54:37world champion. It feels pretty good, especially when you say it

3:54:37 > 3:54:43like that. I have been working so hard and it is paying off.You have

3:54:43 > 3:54:46come through there he is very comfortably. There were stumbles

3:54:46 > 3:54:53along the way. How does it feel to run such a clean race for the final?

3:54:53 > 3:54:57That is what the rounds off for. You have to work through the kinks. I

3:54:57 > 3:55:08felt pretty good. I took the race and I am pretty happy. In the final

3:55:08 > 3:55:11it was the most challenging have been today. Did you know you had it

3:55:11 > 3:55:16all the way?I felt pretty good out of the blocks and I had some

3:55:16 > 3:55:25clearance. I could get in. I feel like I executed it pretty good.

3:55:25 > 3:55:30You've got the silver before and there was some talk about that and

3:55:30 > 3:55:33the retirement of Usain Bolt that you got lost in that noise. How does

3:55:33 > 3:55:41it feel to be here and know that you will be the future of the sport?

3:55:41 > 3:55:48Nobody really remembers second. I used that as fuel coming into this

3:55:48 > 3:55:55season, working really hard. I wanted to come out with a few golds.

3:55:55 > 3:56:02Thank you for talking to me.I appreciate it. The very relaxed

3:56:02 > 3:56:07Christian Coleman, who made light work of winning his first gold on

3:56:07 > 3:56:13the major stage, making it look easy. That is usually the mark of

3:56:13 > 3:56:21brilliance. It was a fantastic run by him, as it was by Laura Mule,

3:56:21 > 3:56:33winning her second medal in two days. -- Muir.Hassan wins another

3:56:33 > 3:56:36medal at the global level. It is not the defence of her titles she would

3:56:36 > 3:56:45have wanted. She would have loved to have won the gold medal again. She

3:56:45 > 3:56:51will be pretty happy with that. Coached by Alberto Salazar these

3:56:51 > 3:56:59days and based in the US. She knew she was in another tough race. In

3:56:59 > 3:57:022003, the only other medallist in the women's 1500 metres was Kelly

3:57:02 > 3:57:11Holmes, who then went on to win the Olympic title. Who knows? Laura

3:57:11 > 3:57:17Muir, world indoor silver-medallist. A superb performance by her. Two

3:57:17 > 3:57:32medals from two great races.World indoor champion...

3:57:32 > 3:57:40indoor champion... Dibaba can be added to the very short

3:57:41 > 3:57:44added to the very short list of multiple winners. She did it in the

3:57:44 > 3:57:48style she has become known for, run away from Avebury made it so hard in

3:57:48 > 3:57:55the last few laps. She got quicker and quicker. -- ran away from

3:57:55 > 3:58:07everybody and made it so hard in the last few laps.

3:58:25 > 3:58:33ETHIOPIAN NATIONAL ANTHEM PLAYS

3:58:55 > 3:59:02APPLAUSE

3:59:02 > 3:59:07Three wonderful women who gave us two brilliant races. I am sure this

3:59:07 > 3:59:14is not the last time we will see these three on a global rostrum.

3:59:15 > 3:59:25Dibaba the gold, Laura Muir the silver. We have had some

3:59:25 > 3:59:29extraordinary sessions of athletics over the years but tonight will take

3:59:29 > 3:59:35some beating. That was an incredible few hours. The crowd was treated to

3:59:35 > 3:59:39some top-class athletics.I don't know where to start for that this is

3:59:39 > 3:59:48why I love athletics. It is thrilling.Do you think she looks a

3:59:48 > 3:59:55bit peeved? How will she be Dibaba? She tries. It is difficult outdoors

3:59:55 > 4:00:01and difficult indoors as well.Laura Muir will find herself also asking

4:00:01 > 4:00:10that question. How do you find a way past Dibaba? She is either freezing

4:00:10 > 4:00:16cold or fed up with Dibaba was getting in her way.Highlights for

4:00:16 > 4:00:19you? Interestingly, the highlight were the field events and it has

4:00:19 > 4:00:25been throughout the championship. The triple jump with the

4:00:25 > 4:00:29championship record and the pole vault going back and forth. In one

4:00:29 > 4:00:36word?Eilidh Doyle. The women are doing fantastically well. Join us

4:00:36 > 4:00:42tomorrow night. The final session starts at 2:45pm on BBC Two. It will

4:00:42 > 4:00:48be fantastic.
