:00:36. > :00:41.Good afternoon, what a week it has been for British tennis, one good

:00:42. > :00:47.news story after another. While we have come to expect to see Andy

:00:48. > :00:51.Murray in the latter stages of events, all of the headlines in

:00:52. > :00:58.Melbourne have been about a 24-year-old from Eastbourne.

:00:59. > :01:02.Britain's number one Johanna Konta outclassed Venus Williams. Johanna

:01:03. > :01:07.Konta continued her great form with a straight set victory. She is the

:01:08. > :01:13.first British woman to reach the fourth round ends 1987. Johanna

:01:14. > :01:17.Konta beating Ekaterina Makarova, a British man and a British woman in

:01:18. > :01:23.the quarterfinals of the grand slam for the first time since 1977.

:01:24. > :01:30.Another memorable day for British tennis, 6-4, 6-1. Next up she will

:01:31. > :01:35.face the seventh seed from Germany, Angelique Kerber. This is massive

:01:36. > :01:42.for Johanna and a big step for British tennis. Jo Konta has been

:01:43. > :01:45.hoisted into the spotlight and deservedly so after superb wins

:01:46. > :01:52.after beating Serena Williams and an even more impressive victory over

:01:53. > :01:57.Ekaterina Makarova. She is on a Grand Slam semifinal, the first

:01:58. > :02:01.British woman for 32 years, big-time tennis, facing the world number six,

:02:02. > :02:06.Angelique Kerber. We have highlights of that match coming up and also the

:02:07. > :02:09.first of the men's semifinals between world number one over

:02:10. > :02:14.Djokovic and the great Roger Federer, meeting for the 45th time.

:02:15. > :02:18.Those matches coming up in the next hour. More good news for British

:02:19. > :02:21.tennis, Jamie Murray is through to his third straight grand slam

:02:22. > :02:26.doubles final but with a new partner, Bruno Soares. After

:02:27. > :02:31.defeating the top seed yesterday, Gordon Reid is through to his first

:02:32. > :02:36.Grand Slam final after beating Fernandez of Argentina 9-7 in the

:02:37. > :02:41.third in a match lasting three and a quarter hours. The first lady

:02:42. > :02:46.semifinal did not last long, Serena Williams looks to be in a different

:02:47. > :02:50.class to the others right now, beating Agnieszka Radwanska and

:02:51. > :02:54.taking the first set in 20 minutes. Williams never looked in trouble and

:02:55. > :02:58.has her sights set on the 22nd grand slam title. It has not been a

:02:59. > :03:03.typical Aussie summer down under, plenty of rain this week and that

:03:04. > :03:08.was the case again today, closed for the Serena Williams semifinal but

:03:09. > :03:15.open for Konta against Kerber. She looked on food and stepping on the

:03:16. > :03:16.court but the nerves seemed to affect, Kerber taking advantage of

:03:17. > :03:37.the early nervousness. COMMENTATOR: A penetrating return

:03:38. > :03:41.from Johanna Konta, she will not back off, she has demonstrated that

:03:42. > :03:50.already in the Australian Open but this is a nervous start and

:03:51. > :03:54.experience has told so far. Semifinal feels different from a

:03:55. > :03:58.quarterfinal and different from the fourth round, the pressure builds.

:03:59. > :04:00.It can weigh heavily on the shoulders. Just desperate to get

:04:01. > :04:29.that first game under her belt here. Probably the weaker side of the

:04:30. > :04:45.left-handed German, her forehand. She can certainly take a short bull

:04:46. > :04:51.on common errors will come on the forehand side more than the steady

:04:52. > :04:56.double handed backhand. Konta will have done her homework. The back and

:04:57. > :04:59.just sat up, not much on that shot at all, another nervous looking shot

:05:00. > :05:48.from Konta. Coming into this match, she was

:05:49. > :05:54.happy to say that she was anxious to leave everything out on the court,

:05:55. > :06:06.her best effort, a it is way to approach it, positive.

:06:07. > :06:11.Beautiful backhands there, she really leans into that shot. Stays

:06:12. > :06:52.nice and low. Insulated to a degree from the hype

:06:53. > :06:53.over here in Australia. Certainly wearing the pressure at the moment,

:06:54. > :07:48.this is an important game. That is the way, she is off and

:07:49. > :07:54.running. And it was the backhand that set up the attack again, it

:07:55. > :07:59.looks good. It is a beautiful shot, she can do some real damage a

:08:00. > :08:04.penetrating with that shot, very aggressive and wanting to get off

:08:05. > :08:10.the mark here and get her first game in a Grand Slam semifinal, did well

:08:11. > :08:13.to hold her nerve. Now, to hold serve. She has not managed that so

:08:14. > :08:43.far, 1-3. Kerber is going to have to start

:08:44. > :08:49.getting a bit more depth on some of these forehands because Konta again

:08:50. > :08:54.edging into the court, aggressive, you can see how well she extends on

:08:55. > :09:01.this shot. A lot of body weight going into that backhand. You do not

:09:02. > :09:39.see too many of those. That was a wrong decision from

:09:40. > :09:44.Kerber coming on that forehand. A bit of a nervous shot from Kerber I

:09:45. > :09:48.thought, rushing, way back to come back from the baseline there, you

:09:49. > :09:52.open up the court, no chance of covering the net and getting close

:09:53. > :10:22.enough, a good forehand passing shot.

:10:23. > :10:31.A third Grand Slam semifinal for Angelique Kerber. The seventh seed

:10:32. > :10:36.here, 28 years of age and has been there before, did not win either of

:10:37. > :10:40.the two previous semifinals but she has felt this pressure. That may

:10:41. > :10:53.serve to extend this game. Yes, just by one point, Johanna

:10:54. > :10:57.Konta has commenced this semifinal in the Women's Singles at the

:10:58. > :11:36.Australian Open, two games in a row, something to build from.

:11:37. > :11:44.What a tremendous effort has been from Jo Konta, not only the

:11:45. > :11:50.semifinal of the Australian Open but the fourth round of the US Open last

:11:51. > :11:54.year as well. This time last two, 144 in the world and now into the

:11:55. > :12:00.top 30, now a star player and into the big money. Yes, a beautiful

:12:01. > :12:11.service motion, look at the body weight going through.

:12:12. > :12:19.Things looking a whole lot better for Britain's Johanna Konta than

:12:20. > :12:25.they were eight or nine minutes ago. She was 3-0 down, losing her first

:12:26. > :12:28.two service games but look back, at least one of those breaks and then a

:12:29. > :12:44.comfortable hold, it is now 3-2, Kerber.

:12:45. > :12:54.A big game for Kerber, she has to re-establish herself, she has been

:12:55. > :13:00.in semifinals before but never opportunities like that, that brings

:13:01. > :13:03.a lot of pressure. You like to play someone ranked this low in a Grand

:13:04. > :13:08.Slam semifinal but the expectations you put on yourself can sometimes

:13:09. > :13:23.get you fit the tight, this is a big game for Kerber.

:13:24. > :13:31.This is the confrontation of this match so far on court. The Kerber

:13:32. > :13:36.forehand, that is the wing that breaks down under pressure. She has

:13:37. > :13:41.a Radwanska type backhand that rarely misses, it feels comfortable.

:13:42. > :13:50.Konta happy to go to it all day long.

:13:51. > :13:57.There is another mistake, that is the side that gets tight. If there

:13:58. > :14:00.is one thing Konta does, it is her homework, her coach and her

:14:01. > :14:04.psychologist, they have done a fantastic job in preparing her. For

:14:05. > :14:20.the run that she is on now. The other area that Konta can go at

:14:21. > :14:26.is the Kerber second serve which also gets wobbly at times, tends to

:14:27. > :14:28.sit little bit. If she misses a few first serves, it is an area she can

:14:29. > :14:42.attack a bit. It is the backhand that breaks this

:14:43. > :15:17.time, this is nervous. It has caught the top of the net,

:15:18. > :15:26.over the high part, Konta, three games in a row, 3-3. STUDIO: The

:15:27. > :15:30.British number one back in the semifinal, nothing between them in

:15:31. > :15:40.the next few games, we rejoin them at 5-5, Konta serving. COMMENTATOR:

:15:41. > :16:07.The 5-5 game, her individual service preparation.

:16:08. > :16:17.Oh, what a point that was as well. Beautiful play from both women. The

:16:18. > :16:22.best rally of the match and that was the big opportunity, set herself up

:16:23. > :16:54.so well, just snatched at the drive forehand volley.

:16:55. > :17:00.She has come through every test at the Australian Open against

:17:01. > :17:04.Ekaterina Makarova and Venus Williams in round one, you see that

:17:05. > :17:11.in the first round but she came through that. The quarterfinal, a

:17:12. > :17:16.match she was expecting to win and now this, a new test.

:17:17. > :17:29.Wow. She has that look about her now, Johanna Konta, where she feels

:17:30. > :17:34.she belongs in this company, this is not a fluke. Look at how she set

:17:35. > :17:39.herself up and how pleased she is on court, a tremendous effort from

:17:40. > :18:06.where she has come from in the last 18 months.

:18:07. > :18:17.Could not have been a long way out, she looks up at the camera but

:18:18. > :18:21.declines to use the computerised line checking system. Not checking

:18:22. > :19:01.Hawk-Eye here. Two break points. When that passing shot hit the top

:19:02. > :19:10.of the net, it was not another one skipping over the racket, was it?

:19:11. > :19:20.That one. This time she was ready, stopped the bull 's progress, this

:19:21. > :19:21.was no easy shot. And back on the attack again, still a break point to

:19:22. > :19:47.save. The Kerber stood up to the pressure

:19:48. > :19:54.there are her forehand, it is a break of serve and she will serve

:19:55. > :19:59.for the first set at 6-5. STUDIO: A crucial stage of the match, they did

:20:00. > :20:02.not need a disruption to play but that is what happened, a few drops

:20:03. > :20:07.of rain stopped play and they needed to drive the court and the lines

:20:08. > :20:11.that can get very slippery. There was a delay of ten minutes and that

:20:12. > :20:15.would certainly test the nerves. We will pick it up again when play

:20:16. > :20:20.resumes with Kerber serving for the set. COMMENTATOR: Crucial moments in

:20:21. > :20:52.this second semifinal. Have to get one of the first couple

:20:53. > :21:23.of points in the big game like this. That is a pity. The break for the

:21:24. > :21:27.tension, to start a game like this with two of those 20 unforced

:21:28. > :21:40.errors, it is a shame but she is not out of the game yet. The wheels have

:21:41. > :21:42.come off in this game. Comfortable for Kerber, the luxury of three set

:21:43. > :22:25.points. The drop shot paid off, and

:22:26. > :22:30.injection of touch and just under 50 minutes played and the first set to

:22:31. > :22:39.Angelique Kerber, 7-5 against Jo Konta. Set number two.

:22:40. > :22:51.Has not settled at all after the break for rain. Even just a few

:22:52. > :22:57.minutes. She had lost her serve to go 5-6 down but that was a bull game

:22:58. > :22:59.to end the first set, she needs to settle quickly here in the second or

:23:00. > :24:08.it could run away. At this level, you cannot afford to

:24:09. > :24:13.throw these errors in bunches. The best players, play one bad point and

:24:14. > :24:15.get back into it and play more solid but at the moment, she is letting

:24:16. > :24:49.things get away from her. A piercing backhand, first the

:24:50. > :24:52.forehand and then down the line to the Kerber, considered a strength

:24:53. > :24:58.but Konta going with real heat down the line, that will please mum and

:24:59. > :25:02.dad on the south coast of England. Down in Eastbourne, they have been

:25:03. > :25:04.watching this on TV, choosing not to fly out and change anything, they

:25:05. > :25:40.must be so proud. It was an excellent change of

:25:41. > :25:45.direction fourth and side from Kerber, she is just turning the

:25:46. > :25:55.screw in this match. She has the break of serve as well as the first

:25:56. > :26:00.set. STUDIO: Kerber in control, Konta trying to get past defences

:26:01. > :26:09.but continued to make errors, as we rejoin it, Kerber is 5-2 up and

:26:10. > :26:12.serving for a place in the final. COMMENTATOR: What a moment in the

:26:13. > :26:18.career of the seventh seed, Angelique Kerber, veteran of the

:26:19. > :27:02.tour, 28 years of age, serving for a place in the final.

:27:03. > :27:38.Lovely injection of pace therefrom Kerber.

:27:39. > :27:51.That is telling, Konta has perhaps been over pressing on the backhand.

:27:52. > :28:03.Take that. That was a nervous little drop shot. Please be good. She did

:28:04. > :28:11.not want to hit the best shot, a bit tight, a clean winner. She had about

:28:12. > :28:13.half an hour to get to that one. Still had to hit the shot which she

:28:14. > :28:31.did. And now, a match point. Don't start

:28:32. > :28:32.thinking now. A chance to make a Grand Slam final and play Serena

:28:33. > :28:51.Williams, match point. Well, it is a shame it had to end

:28:52. > :28:56.that way. It is Angelique Kerber who advances to her first Grand Slam

:28:57. > :29:02.final at the Australian Open. She will play Serena Williams. But my

:29:03. > :29:05.goodness, we have seen so much to be proud from Johanna Konta, a

:29:06. > :29:10.tremendous run comes to an end but we salute Kerber who will take on

:29:11. > :29:16.Serena Williams, who she has beaten before but that is a daunting task

:29:17. > :29:23.indeed. This is really her victory for Kerber rather than a loss for

:29:24. > :29:30.Konta. Sydney born Johanna Konta, British from Hungarian parents,

:29:31. > :29:37.calls herself try national but a brilliant run. Many congratulations,

:29:38. > :29:46.28 years of age and your first Grand Slam final. A special moment for

:29:47. > :29:50.you? Yes. Thank you. It is a special moment, reaching the final for the

:29:51. > :29:57.first time. I will try to give everything today on court and Jo had

:29:58. > :30:04.a great two weeks and I am sure she will have a great future. She was a

:30:05. > :30:07.tough opponent. She will win many tournaments in the future, that is

:30:08. > :30:14.for sure. I just want to say thank you again, it is an unbelievable

:30:15. > :30:24.feeling to play on the Centre Court, thank you guys, I hope you will be

:30:25. > :30:29.supporting on Saturday. And we hope you will be supporting us on

:30:30. > :30:31.Saturday as well when we are on BBC One with Angelique Kerber taking on

:30:32. > :30:38.the great Serena Williams, the world number one. Kerber has a victory

:30:39. > :30:41.over her in the head to head. Highlight of the ladies final but

:30:42. > :30:49.also the Men's Doubles final with Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares.

:30:50. > :30:54.Disappointment for Joanna Konta, but let's hear what she have to say to

:30:55. > :31:00.Russell Fuller, he asked her if she became disappointed from coming so

:31:01. > :31:03.close to a grand slam final. I don't feel I missed an opportunity, I feel

:31:04. > :31:08.I've played a good match against one of the best players in the world,

:31:09. > :31:11.who basically won the match to go into the final. So the reason she's

:31:12. > :31:16.there is because she won the match and that's how I'm going to take it.

:31:17. > :31:21.You know, I'm looking forward to just continuing to work and

:31:22. > :31:25.continuing to create opportunities for myself to be in similar

:31:26. > :31:29.situations in the future. We all hope that and John Lloyd is with me,

:31:30. > :31:32.very impressive. Disappointing today, a few too many errors but

:31:33. > :31:36.over the fortnight she should be very happy with it overall.

:31:37. > :31:41.Absolutely, how far as she come in such a short distance of time. It's

:31:42. > :31:45.remarkable. Today she started off slow but understandably the Melissa

:31:46. > :31:51.Mead finals, going down 3-0 and when she got that back she looked like

:31:52. > :31:55.she belonged out there. -- the semifinals. She needs a bit more

:31:56. > :31:58.variety in places but I think she is a threat now. A lot of coaches now

:31:59. > :32:02.from the top women will be checking her out and coming up with different

:32:03. > :32:06.strategies to play her. I think she can move up the rankings a lot more,

:32:07. > :32:11.I see no reason why not. There is a big gap, if you take Serena Williams

:32:12. > :32:14.out of it, because she is a class among herself, for the rest there is

:32:15. > :32:18.an opening for someone like Joanna Konta and the way she has played in

:32:19. > :32:22.this tournament, why not, she can go a long way. Mentally she has

:32:23. > :32:25.improved on the big points but she also has weapons which is important.

:32:26. > :32:29.If you are going to win matches you need to put pressure on players. I

:32:30. > :32:33.love the way she hugs the baseline, takes the ball early, takes the ball

:32:34. > :32:38.on the rise, looking to go forward always, her serve is a big weapon,

:32:39. > :32:42.bit more variety on the return, hits a few too many down the middle on

:32:43. > :32:46.the second serve. She should have attacked the second serve more

:32:47. > :32:50.today? She should, she had the appointment Delhi opportunity to get

:32:51. > :32:54.the opponent off balance. She hits it too hard but she will learn that

:32:55. > :32:57.through experience and when she made errors she grouped them together,

:32:58. > :33:01.whereas the top players play one bad shot and get back down to it and

:33:02. > :33:05.play solidly for a couple of points. That is another thing that will come

:33:06. > :33:08.from experience but she has a great future. Nominee points to defend,

:33:09. > :33:15.she has only broken into the top 30, up to 28, -- already broken into.

:33:16. > :33:17.She will be in the Premier tournaments, getting big points add

:33:18. > :33:22.more experience and it's an exciting time. Very exciting and this will

:33:23. > :33:25.give her the chance to be seated at the Grand Slam is, that will protect

:33:26. > :33:30.her a bit more. I look at her and think there is no reason why not.

:33:31. > :33:36.How far? She can be top ten, no doubt, but the next level after

:33:37. > :33:40.that, again, Serena is the problem because at the moment she is a class

:33:41. > :33:43.of her own, how long she can go on for, who knows? But take the rest of

:33:44. > :33:46.the field and Konta has a good chance to do well against any of

:33:47. > :33:50.them if she keeps on improving and she will keep getting better. I

:33:51. > :33:54.worry for Kerber's second serve against Serena on Saturday, it will

:33:55. > :33:57.get a bit of a thumping but congratulations to Angelique Kerber

:33:58. > :34:04.who played a fantastic match today, through to her first grand slam

:34:05. > :34:06.final. The ladies final is on Saturday but the first of the men's

:34:07. > :34:08.semifinals took place earlier today and what a semifinal, two of the

:34:09. > :34:14.all-time greats, world number one Novak Djokovic begins the Roger

:34:15. > :34:17.Federer. They have met 44 times, 22-22 in their head-to-head and as

:34:18. > :34:21.you can see Djokovic has really dominated in their recent Grand Slam

:34:22. > :34:25.meetings. Could he go ahead for the first time against his great rival?

:34:26. > :34:29.There wasn't a spare seat in the Rod Laver Arena to see these two great

:34:30. > :34:33.champions doing battle once again. What an era we are enjoying at the

:34:34. > :34:37.moment. Djokovic knows he must be at his best against Roger and he

:34:38. > :34:43.started that way, taking the first set 6-1. We join it at the second,

:34:44. > :35:01.1-1, Federer to serve and John is with Andrew again.

:35:02. > :35:07.COMMENTATOR: He feels with this much break between the semifinal and a

:35:08. > :35:11.final you can really throw everything at the semifinal and not

:35:12. > :35:14.hold anything back. He said, not that you voluntarily do that, but if

:35:15. > :35:24.you have the final the next day or that they after you might pull back

:35:25. > :35:28.mentally at had Belly -- a tad. Once again you can see Federer is being

:35:29. > :35:33.made to play such awkward shots by Djokovic, coming at him so deep, not

:35:34. > :35:37.giving him enough time to react, and he's trying to power through with

:35:38. > :35:47.the forehand, Federer, but at the moment the timing is not there.

:35:48. > :35:54.Again, he's hoping for success, Federer, on that approach shot. It's

:35:55. > :35:57.not a real, genuine... He comes in and that's not going to get the job

:35:58. > :36:01.done, he can't get to the net quick enough from there, he has way too

:36:02. > :36:07.much time to hit the pass. Two shots too early in a rally. Exactly, he's

:36:08. > :36:10.rushing. It's unusual to say Roger Federer is panicking, not a word you

:36:11. > :36:12.associate with Federer, but at the moment it looks a little bit like he

:36:13. > :36:33.is. This is an absolute masterclass from

:36:34. > :36:37.Djokovic. Roger Federer is having a quick challenge, he's about to lose

:36:38. > :36:44.his serve again. The forehand looked like it landed long to the naked

:36:45. > :36:49.eye. And two Hawk-Eye as well. Djokovic is in complete control of

:36:50. > :36:52.this semifinal. Federer on the back foot, Djokovic

:36:53. > :37:47.held in the next game so here is Federer serving again at 1-3.

:37:48. > :37:56.Oh! How good is that? That was extraordinary, and it could have

:37:57. > :38:00.passed you by quite easily there. That's one of the greatest bits of

:38:01. > :38:04.defence I've ever seen. And it wasn't at this point in the rally,

:38:05. > :38:09.it was earlier. Federer hit a forehand as hard as he could hit it,

:38:10. > :38:13.deep into the corner, it may have been just inside. Who is this bloke?

:38:14. > :38:41.The lob was amazing. Oh dear. I'll tell you something,

:38:42. > :38:46.you might as well not worry too much about Federer. And just revel in

:38:47. > :38:54.Djokovic, because this is extraordinary. And, yes, Federer has

:38:55. > :38:58.made a lot of errors, John. He's in the zone, isn't he? At the moment

:38:59. > :39:03.there is nothing he can't hit, everything he hits is going where he

:39:04. > :39:08.wants it. And getting a nice net cord as well. This might be one of

:39:09. > :39:15.those high moments in an individual's performance. There is a

:39:16. > :39:18.Ivan Ljubicic, working with Roger Federer replacing Stefan Edberg

:39:19. > :39:23.after a couple of years, the Swedish player with Roger Federer. And his

:39:24. > :39:42.wife Mirka looking on as well. This is amazing. Truly amazing. The

:39:43. > :39:49.net cord return on the previous point and that return on the

:39:50. > :39:51.baseline. It is amazing. It is 6-1, 4-1.

:39:52. > :39:56.STUDIO: And proving unstoppable because Djokovic never let up, he

:39:57. > :39:59.took the set 6-2, the crowd in shock, who would have thought

:40:00. > :40:04.Federer would win three games in two sets but he found some form in the

:40:05. > :40:07.third set, we rejoin with Federer leading 3-2 and Djokovic to serve.

:40:08. > :40:31.COMMENTATOR: 2-3. That's the shop that has been

:40:32. > :40:35.causing him the most problems, his forehand. Always very reliable --

:40:36. > :40:37.shot. He got himself back into the rally so well and missed the easy

:40:38. > :41:52.one. That was the best backhand Federer

:41:53. > :41:59.has hit today. It got Djokovic out-of-court. That's the one that

:42:00. > :42:34.set him up. A slight opening here for Federer.

:42:35. > :43:09.0- 30 opportunity as rare as hen's teeth for Roger Federer today.

:43:10. > :43:52.The first break point saved and accurate serve but that one was on

:43:53. > :43:55.Federer's racket. Good signs for him, though. He needs something for

:43:56. > :44:37.him to get his teeth into. That is of poor passing shot from

:44:38. > :44:41.Djokovic there. -- a poor passing shot. Ivan Ljubicic, former world

:44:42. > :44:48.number three, working with Roger Federer.

:44:49. > :45:28.He just missed. At least he was inside the court that time and he

:45:29. > :45:32.earned the opportunity to pull the trigger. Two of those chances on the

:45:33. > :45:36.forehand in this game and he missed them both. Those are the sort of

:45:37. > :45:42.shots that normally you just expect Federer, because he's that good, to

:45:43. > :45:50.make that shot. He didn't have to make it that good. Fine defence

:45:51. > :45:51.before that from Djokovic, standing firm, three break points saved in

:45:52. > :46:21.this game. That's just too good. There was no

:46:22. > :46:26.chance Djokovic was going to miss a ground stroke there. Federer

:46:27. > :46:29.defended well in that rally. He was on the back foot. That's the

:46:30. > :46:34.familiar shot, the squash forehand, just missed that one but normally so

:46:35. > :46:35.good with that. But he never really got a chance to get ahead in that

:46:36. > :47:02.rally. That's cheeky. Beautifully played.

:47:03. > :47:11.This is a very fine phase of play for Federer. Djokovic doing nothing

:47:12. > :47:18.different, maintaining an amazing standard. This is the best part of

:47:19. > :47:53.the match standard-wise. You wouldn't necessarily expect

:47:54. > :48:05.Djokovic to out -base Federer over the course of the match -- out- ace.

:48:06. > :49:25.What a this is. -- a game this is. The previous time on this side he

:49:26. > :49:30.had run around and hit a forehand too hot to handle for Djokovic. This

:49:31. > :49:36.time standing his ground and getting over the top of that. It's a thing

:49:37. > :49:46.of beauty. What a game, ten minutes worth, deuce.

:49:47. > :50:07.CHEERING Djokovic would like this volley back

:50:08. > :50:19.here, Federer is onto it, and then the control, magnificent dig. The

:50:20. > :50:29.fourth break point. UMPIRE: Mr Djokovic is challenging

:50:30. > :50:34.the call on the left service line, the ball was called out. Pascal

:50:35. > :50:43.Maria in the chair, what big-time this is, challenging the serve,

:50:44. > :50:52.disrupting your own rhythm. Oh yes, there is reward. First serve.

:50:53. > :51:26.CHEERING First break of serve for Roger

:51:27. > :51:31.Federer in this semifinal. Some of the crowd rise. He's made it a

:51:32. > :51:39.match. This is going to hurt the years of Djokovic -- the ears.

:51:40. > :51:42.STUDIO: It certainly hurt his momentum as well, the crowd got

:51:43. > :51:47.behind Federer and he went on to take the set 6-3, match on also we

:51:48. > :52:07.go into the fourth set Djokovic leading 4-3, Federer to serve.

:52:08. > :52:14.COMMENTATOR: The 15 point in the previous game Djokovic held with a

:52:15. > :52:20.winning volley and then a nice clean ending to the game, now Djokovic at

:52:21. > :52:49.0- 15 in this game, danger for Federer here.

:52:50. > :52:58.Federer could have done more, couldn't he? Djokovic was onto that

:52:59. > :53:04.so close, he read that volley, he had too much time. That was a big

:53:05. > :53:08.point for Federer to lose. You could see him react, he gets up to it, the

:53:09. > :53:14.racket went back early, could have gone either way, 20 of time, and

:53:15. > :53:27.danger time now for Federer. -- plenty of time.

:53:28. > :53:36.That's surprising, really surprising. It was a good second

:53:37. > :53:48.serve, but not that good for Djokovic to make an error. It was a

:53:49. > :53:57.big opportunity vertigo 0- 40. -- there to go 0- 40.

:53:58. > :54:18.Oh! Ho-ho! That was unbelievable. Djokovic way too cautious. Great

:54:19. > :54:23.lob, this. Both players, what a recovery. That was the shot, didn't

:54:24. > :54:30.do enough with it, and there, the same thing, didn't snap the volley

:54:31. > :54:46.away, too Conservative, but what a backhand.

:54:47. > :54:53.That is good fortune right over the top of Federer's racket, off the top

:54:54. > :54:59.of the net, it was a piercing passing shot. He was unlucky,

:55:00. > :55:29.though. He was on that. That's a bit of a bluff, I'm afraid.

:55:30. > :55:34.STUDIO: Djokovic very much in charge once again and a few points later,

:55:35. > :55:39.here he is at match point. COMMENTATOR: Djokovic will go

:55:40. > :55:45.through to have a crack at his sixth Australian Open title on Sunday.

:55:46. > :55:49.Federer defeated in four sets, it's been too long since Federer was able

:55:50. > :55:56.to best the world number one at Grand Slam level. But it's hats off

:55:57. > :56:03.to Djokovic, superb. The first two sets unbelievable. And in the fourth

:56:04. > :56:07.set gutsy and determined. STUDIO: Truly proving what a great champion

:56:08. > :56:10.he is, he's coached by a great champion and applauded by another,

:56:11. > :56:14.Rod Laver, everyone appreciating the dominance of the world number one.

:56:15. > :56:20.And the feeling for this man Roger Federer, it wasn't his day, he

:56:21. > :56:23.fought hard in the first set but he found no answers for Djokovic was so

:56:24. > :56:27.good once again on the Rod Laver Arena, a court he has grown to love.

:56:28. > :56:33.John Lloyd was watching it with me. Sad for Roger Federer but the best

:56:34. > :56:36.man won on the day. Federer did not start well but lots

:56:37. > :56:39.of that comes down to Djokovic, he was brilliant and forced Federer to

:56:40. > :56:43.keep going for so much because he's right in his face, deep, and Federer

:56:44. > :56:47.starts going for too much and serve and volley too much and becomes too

:56:48. > :56:50.predictable and in the end Djokovic was a different class. Djokovic

:56:51. > :56:54.knows if he can get the first and second against Roger it's unlikely

:56:55. > :56:57.Roger is going to come back and win it in five, it's too much of an

:56:58. > :57:02.ASCII for him so he was in the driving seat once awake. Great

:57:03. > :57:06.effort to come back and win the third from Roger because it looked

:57:07. > :57:10.like it might be a whitewash at one stage. He has the answers again and

:57:11. > :57:15.Federer has to force the issue all the time and if his forehand is not

:57:16. > :57:20.at 100% Federer has no chance and Djokovic returns to well, his

:57:21. > :57:25.defence is amazing. Federer can't find a way through him. It seems

:57:26. > :57:29.inevitable in a best-of-5 set match that Djokovic will come out on top

:57:30. > :57:34.now. We talked about Serena being dominant, you feel not quite as

:57:35. > :57:38.much, but Djokovic is taking a lead over the others in the men's game as

:57:39. > :57:43.well. He seems so hard to beat in the Grand Slam is. Over five sets he

:57:44. > :57:46.is a frightening prospect, what can you do against him? He does

:57:47. > :57:51.everything better than everyone else, the pressure he puts on you,

:57:52. > :57:54.his defensive skills, his service has improved, he comes in, Boris

:57:55. > :57:58.Becker helped him with his volley and he's confident with that. How do

:57:59. > :58:03.you put him down over five sets, I don't know the answer and nobody

:58:04. > :58:07.else does. He moves so well, his movement on the court is so good. He

:58:08. > :58:11.is through to the final of the Australian Open once again. But the

:58:12. > :58:14.second men's semifinal will take place tomorrow, Andy Murray,

:58:15. > :58:25.Britain's number one, up against Milos Raonic, that's tomorrow.

:58:26. > :58:29.COMMENTATOR: That will do it, Andy Murray for the sick time through to

:58:30. > :58:35.the semifinals of the Australian Open.

:58:36. > :58:41.STUDIO: Willock forward to that tomorrow, Andy Murray against Milos

:58:42. > :58:46.Raonic, at 2pm on BBC Two. Today, though, the world number one in the

:58:47. > :58:49.men's, Novak Djokovic, marches on at the Australian Open and Johanna

:58:50. > :58:54.Konta's dream run ran out, I'm afraid. Bye bye

:58:55. > :58:58.COMMENTATOR: Johanna Konta, hurt Mendis run comes to an end but we

:58:59. > :59:01.salute Kerber. Djokovic will go through to have a

:59:02. > :59:03.crack at his sixth Australian Open title.
