:00:47. > :00:55.Welcome to Glasgow, the 20 17th Badminton championships. This then
:00:56. > :01:01.you behind me posted badminton for the Commonwealth Games. Will it be a
:01:02. > :01:13.happy hunting ground again. We will find out if Britain can end a barren
:01:14. > :01:25.run. Kirsty Gilmore won Commonwealth silver here in 2014 and has pushed
:01:26. > :01:35.for podium places. We will follow markers Ellis and Chris Langridge.
:01:36. > :01:40.Chris Adcock and Gabby Adcock have regularly mixed with the best in the
:01:41. > :01:50.world and bounce back with European gold and silver. All that to come.
:01:51. > :01:54.He won a silver medal with the next event at the Commonwealth Games. But
:01:55. > :02:02.this was about chasing individual success.
:02:03. > :02:10.He made a strong start. In round two, Samir Verma was his opponent
:02:11. > :02:16.but Rajiy Ouseph progressed with relative ease. That put him into
:02:17. > :02:21.round three but it was a rather dubious reward for his success
:02:22. > :02:31.because he was drawn against the Chinese legend Lin Dan. I'm joined
:02:32. > :02:36.by Gail Emms. Lin Dan is pretty amazing, isn't he? Just a little
:02:37. > :02:42.bit. The greatest of all time. Two Olympic titles, five World
:02:43. > :02:50.Championship titles. He's the man to beat but he's 34 years old. Now is
:02:51. > :02:54.the time to beat him. He has European gold, Rajiy Ouseph. He has
:02:55. > :02:59.a chance. He has a chance. When he brings out his best game it is
:03:00. > :03:07.beautiful to watch and many players struggle with that. Fingers crossed.
:03:08. > :03:11.He also got married this year so will the -- will there be another
:03:12. > :03:32.reason to celebrate? I would not have said that ten years
:03:33. > :03:33.ago. At the age of 23, he is probably much quicker than at the
:03:34. > :04:18.age of 33. Got to see a Ouseph and get off to a
:04:19. > :04:23.good start and get some confidence. It is quite interesting that the
:04:24. > :04:27.last time they met was five years ago and I think Ouseph has improved
:04:28. > :04:34.considerably since then. Not only that, he's in the form of his life.
:04:35. > :04:41.Winning that gold-medal at the European Championships, the first
:04:42. > :04:50.engagement to do so, for 27 years. Since Darren Hall? Stephen Bagley.
:04:51. > :04:59.In Moscow in 1990. He beat Darren Hall in the final. In my opinion, it
:05:00. > :05:04.defines his career. If he doesn't win another match he still became
:05:05. > :05:15.the European champion. This is the bonus, so to speak. Can go for the
:05:16. > :05:31.big wins. Very good win yesterday. It was not an easy matter.
:05:32. > :05:47.Men's singles is the only discipline in which they've not medals. They
:05:48. > :05:57.wondered if he was able to please the British fans in Scotland. There
:05:58. > :06:19.are a lot of fans that would love to see Lin Dan achieve even more. From
:06:20. > :06:33.a Danish perspective, a lot of people cheering for Lin Dan. We saw
:06:34. > :06:35.him stand on this side of the court. Proving he was controlling the
:06:36. > :07:02.drift. I still need to take that as a wrong
:07:03. > :07:27.call because I was thinking it would be much more in.
:07:28. > :07:42.I suspect it is a little bit dangerous to lift to the forehand
:07:43. > :07:49.side. It is his strongest point of attack, Lin Dan, it is also really
:07:50. > :08:07.difficult to see what he's selecting when he's not attacking.
:08:08. > :08:20.You can play it but you need to put pressure on Lin Dan. Like that, when
:08:21. > :08:31.he's not able to leap in the air. I still think that one is dangerous.
:08:32. > :08:41.One of the things I look for is the opponents's feet reacting. If they
:08:42. > :08:55.are compensating then his deception has been effective.
:08:56. > :09:12.There's another challenge here. So he doesn't have any challengers
:09:13. > :09:19.left. Do you remember the Olympic bronze medal match? He was also out
:09:20. > :09:20.of challengers there. A couple of occasions, he wanted a second
:09:21. > :09:50.opinion. Good shot. Been covering the court well until
:09:51. > :10:17.now, Ouseph. That was going out! Both players,
:10:18. > :10:23.the indecision on the net short, but the anticipation, as soon as Lin Dan
:10:24. > :10:29.turned, Ouseph was waiting for the drop shot. Look at his movement. A
:10:30. > :10:34.solid start from Ouseph put him six points ahead and form would
:10:35. > :11:11.continue. We pick up the action at game point.
:11:12. > :11:23.Lin Dan found his form in the second and even though Ouseph was moving
:11:24. > :11:37.well, the Olympic champion levelled the match. The momentum had firmly
:11:38. > :11:42.shifted by the decider. Although Ouseph gave it his all, it was Lin
:11:43. > :11:58.Dan who progressed and remained on course for a sixth world title.
:11:59. > :12:06.It was 2003 the last time he lost prior to a quarterfinal stage. What
:12:07. > :12:13.a brave fight by the European champion. I think I played the best
:12:14. > :12:20.I've played for a long time but I could not sustain it so when you let
:12:21. > :12:23.those guys have a sniff they take advantage of it. He got hold of the
:12:24. > :12:31.game in the second set and imposed his game on the match. It was a
:12:32. > :12:35.little bit too much. I mounted a comeback but I probably relax a
:12:36. > :12:45.little bit. Quite difficult but there are still positives. Still
:12:46. > :12:50.positives to gain from that. It was so close. That first set was
:12:51. > :12:54.brilliant but he could not keep the momentum going. Lin Dan stepped it
:12:55. > :12:59.up and he is a true champion. He's not going to want to finish, and
:13:00. > :13:08.with the Commonwealth, is that a chance? He is going to give it a
:13:09. > :13:13.great shot but it will be about the Commonwealth Games Gold Coast.
:13:14. > :13:21.Winning through to the final, he secured his first medal since 2013.
:13:22. > :13:29.He was up against Denmark's Viktor Axelsen, a man in career-best form.
:13:30. > :13:35.Lin Dan had the experience but Viktor Axelsen had youth on his
:13:36. > :13:46.site. He secured his first world title of his career by taking the
:13:47. > :13:53.second set 21-16. I'm Marcus Ellis. And Chris Langridge. It is one of
:13:54. > :13:59.the fastest sports in the world. Reaction speed is one of the biggest
:14:00. > :14:08.assets. Officially it is faster than a Formula 1 car. Check shots are
:14:09. > :14:11.part of any player's repertoire. Some players use them more than
:14:12. > :14:21.others. Others do not use them at all. It is something I love to do to
:14:22. > :14:22.get myself out of trouble. Last-ditch defence. It doesn't
:14:23. > :14:35.always pay off. It is similar to tennis, when you
:14:36. > :14:39.see them hitting the ball between their legs, you create check shots
:14:40. > :14:46.yourself just to get back in the rally. We don't give names to them
:14:47. > :15:01.but some people create special shots of their own. Chris Langridge and
:15:02. > :15:07.Marcus Ellis. We will have more from them. Next it is the women's
:15:08. > :15:24.singles. Kirsty Gilmour has many skills herself. She eased past Das.
:15:25. > :15:27.It put her up against her Chinese opponent. Somebody who has made
:15:28. > :15:40.massive improvements but it is not easy. You're always greater harm --
:15:41. > :15:46.going to come up against a higher ranked opponent. It is really hard
:15:47. > :15:56.to break into the world rankings. Impressive work. Bingjao in the next
:15:57. > :16:05.round. She just needs to be consistent. She's just got to go for
:16:06. > :16:15.it. Gilmour may have been the underdog but she would control the
:16:16. > :16:22.opening game against Bingjao. It was a complete reversal in the second.
:16:23. > :16:34.The world junior champion battled back and levelled the match. Decider
:16:35. > :16:38.would be needed. There was little to separate the pair. Neither made a
:16:39. > :17:01.convincing case for victory. It was definitely not the most
:17:02. > :17:08.difficult shot she has played in that rally but sometimes when you
:17:09. > :17:09.start to get tired, you forget focus on the simpler shots and you make a
:17:10. > :17:33.mistake. Great finish from Kirsty Gilmour.
:17:34. > :17:38.She seemed to slice across it, almost. I've noticed in past matches
:17:39. > :17:46.she hit this and that was exactly what the coaches were asking her to
:17:47. > :17:57.do, a variety of shots. She's followed that plan very well. I like
:17:58. > :18:01.how she looks confident hitting crosscourt. It opens up. She works
:18:02. > :18:26.so hard out of that. She was unrelenting from then on and
:18:27. > :18:38.showed no signs of discomfort. We rejoin the action with the Scot in a
:18:39. > :18:50.commanding position. Now six points behind and facing match point.
:18:51. > :19:08.Incredible result, this should be from Kirsty Gilmour. The home crowds
:19:09. > :19:50.clapping in anticipation of what might be.
:19:51. > :20:05.Four match to save... It is not to be. Look at what it means for Kirsty
:20:06. > :20:19.Gilmour. Tears from the Scottish number one. What a performance.
:20:20. > :20:23.Tears of joy, of course. Incredible for Kirsty Gilmour. She takes a spot
:20:24. > :20:37.in the quarterfinals at the World Championships. Speechless, doesn't
:20:38. > :20:49.happen very often. This is so positive for me, I stuck to the
:20:50. > :21:00.plan, I'm so happy. A tough draw meant it would be Nehwal. Does it
:21:01. > :21:04.surprise you, because she has had her injury problems? That was the
:21:05. > :21:09.best I've ever seen her play. I was gobsmacked. It was really deserved.
:21:10. > :21:15.I was really proud of her. Fingers crossed that she can maintain it. It
:21:16. > :21:21.doesn't get any easier, this is a tough draw. It is. She is up against
:21:22. > :21:26.Nehwal, India's superstar. She must be so confident. To have that result
:21:27. > :21:32.behind her, to go into this match, she's got nothing to lose. She will
:21:33. > :21:47.have a home support. Let's see how she gets on. Good variation. She has
:21:48. > :22:07.game point. Former world number one. She's come
:22:08. > :22:11.through the opening game. Gilmour produced some of the best player of
:22:12. > :22:32.the tournament in the second. We rejoin with the Scot 14-11 up.
:22:33. > :23:11.Perfect from Gilmour. Really opening up the court.
:23:12. > :23:28.Great shot again. Kirsty Gilmour knows it as she opens up the court.
:23:29. > :23:42.That did the damage. She is playing relaxed and using softer shots in
:23:43. > :23:55.addition to that, she's making use of it.
:23:56. > :24:04.She's a powerful player, Kirsty Gilmour, and covers the court so
:24:05. > :24:12.well. No reason why she cannot get the attack straight from the
:24:13. > :24:20.beginning. She's found her range. She's not using full power. She
:24:21. > :24:30.plays it may be 80% or something like that.
:24:31. > :24:51.It is tough for Nehwal, needing six of the next eight points to stay
:24:52. > :25:27.with Gilmour. Really making Nehwal move in all
:25:28. > :25:33.four corners of the court. It has gone wrong. She lost that point but
:25:34. > :26:01.a very well constructive rally from Gilmour.
:26:02. > :26:10.Good drop shot from town-3-mac. Gilmour on her knees but recovers
:26:11. > :26:37.quickly. Great rally from Nehwal. Gives her the confidence to maintain
:26:38. > :27:08.the pressure on Nehwal. Taking Nehwal by surprise. It is
:27:09. > :27:19.game point for Gilmour. That might have been going wide. Nehwal taking
:27:20. > :27:50.no chances. Great net shot. Good technique.
:27:51. > :28:02.Gilmour really needs to stay composed and finish this game off. I
:28:03. > :28:18.fear for her if she allows Nehwal to get back. Her experience might shine
:28:19. > :28:37.through. She has done it. Sadly, fatigue began to have an impact.
:28:38. > :28:49.Six points away from a medal. The margins are so fine. If I had just
:28:50. > :28:54.found the extroverts. Overall, disappointment tinged with some
:28:55. > :29:00.happiness, I guess. You must take so much from pushing a quality player
:29:01. > :29:05.like that. Did the crowd lift you as well? 100%. When you've had a
:29:06. > :29:13.mammoth rally, and they are like, you can do it, a little bit of
:29:14. > :29:21.reinforcement that I saw seldom get. To hear these voices in the crowd,
:29:22. > :29:29.so on your side, it is the best feeling. Understandably, mixed
:29:30. > :29:36.feelings. And truly gutted. Especially after her last 16 win,
:29:37. > :29:43.which was amazing. She was so confident going into this match but
:29:44. > :29:50.it wasn't happening. She's made massive progress. It is important
:29:51. > :29:55.for Scotland to have a player like her to get behind. Kirsty is
:29:56. > :29:59.Scotland's Golden player at the moment. She really is. She's
:30:00. > :30:06.embracing everything, learning all the time, improving all the time.
:30:07. > :30:16.She can keep going. She's on the track. The singles final would be
:30:17. > :30:24.historic, Pusarla was chasing her first ever gold. Okuhara was looking
:30:25. > :30:28.to enter Japan's 40-year run without a world title in the sport. It
:30:29. > :30:33.turned into an epic encounter with both players left exhausted as the
:30:34. > :30:36.match went into a third game. Okuhara had the greater stamina,
:30:37. > :30:45.urging her arrival -- getting her rival. The doubles event featured
:30:46. > :30:46.Walker and Smith. They made it through the first round but lost in
:30:47. > :31:01.the second. The final was contested between
:31:02. > :31:06.china's world junior champions, and the surprise package Fukushima and
:31:07. > :31:14.Hirota of Japan. It went to three, but it was China who took the title.
:31:15. > :31:22.History was made at Rio 2016 as Langridge and relish delivered the
:31:23. > :31:31.first UK badminton medal in a number of years. But then came the Deva
:31:32. > :31:38.tasting news -- devastating news that funding was going to be cut.
:31:39. > :31:43.After Rio there was a big hype for a while. I didn't know how the dust
:31:44. > :31:48.was going to settle. I wasn't expecting to be driving around in
:31:49. > :31:52.Ferraris and my life to change significantly. We got to Christmas
:31:53. > :31:57.and it was a kick in the teeth. We felt we were not going to get an
:31:58. > :32:01.increase in funding or anything, but it feels like everyone else has
:32:02. > :32:06.suffered as well. It has been hard to take, so it's taken us and some
:32:07. > :32:09.of the other players a while to adjust. It's disappointing but we
:32:10. > :32:14.are just about at the point now where we are adjusting to the way
:32:15. > :32:24.things are now running, and the new setup we have. If I am brutally
:32:25. > :32:28.honest, I think even if we won four golds, UK sport would say,
:32:29. > :32:33.congratulations but we are not interested. That's because their
:32:34. > :32:37.mindset, I feel, is that they look at certain sports that are pen and
:32:38. > :32:43.paper with regards how quick you can do this. That are quick to analyse.
:32:44. > :32:49.You cannot analyse badminton. You just can't. I have stopped thinking
:32:50. > :32:54.about UK Sport. I don't think they will help us at all. I want to enjoy
:32:55. > :33:01.playing and give my best and perform. If I perform well, I know
:33:02. > :33:05.success will follow. I want to play and enjoy it, and obviously I want
:33:06. > :33:11.to win. If we are playing well, literally anything is possible. This
:33:12. > :33:15.must have been so tough to take, because it was your success with
:33:16. > :33:22.Nick Robertson in 2004 that brought in a lot of UK Sport in the first
:33:23. > :33:26.place. It does hurt, especially as an ex-player. Something you love and
:33:27. > :33:32.you put so much time and energy into, your heart and soul. It is
:33:33. > :33:37.like a punch in the stomach when the powers above don't believe in the
:33:38. > :33:42.same things you did. We are going to keep fighting and hopefully bring in
:33:43. > :33:48.some more results and convince UK Sport otherwise. What more can they
:33:49. > :33:53.do? The players felt they had done everything possible. We have to keep
:33:54. > :33:58.putting our case in and hope that a few more results here or dare, a
:33:59. > :34:04.successful World Championships, might put the case a bit higher for
:34:05. > :34:10.them. A medal from Langridge and Ellis would certainly help. Let's
:34:11. > :34:18.see how they got on. They had a bye in an opening round and an energetic
:34:19. > :34:22.performance in the second. They overcame the Danish duo. That put
:34:23. > :34:27.them into the third round, and a tie with the unseeded South Korean pair.
:34:28. > :34:32.Langridge and Ellis made a sluggish start to this one, and found
:34:33. > :34:37.themselves a game down, with the Koreans taking the opening. They
:34:38. > :34:45.were much better in the second, though. We join them with Langridge
:34:46. > :34:49.and Ellis serving. COMMENTATOR: England get away with
:34:50. > :34:54.the miscommunication. A little help from the net cord. They have been
:34:55. > :35:03.making their own luck by trying to take them at the net more in this
:35:04. > :35:04.second game. They have earned themselves a game point. Marcus
:35:05. > :35:31.Ellis still with the serve. What a shame for Langridge. They are
:35:32. > :35:36.looking more confident. It was a perfect change of pace, the soft
:35:37. > :35:40.shot here. Almost a winner, very, very good. I think maybe he loses
:35:41. > :35:47.focus because he thinks it's a winner and forgets to keep on
:35:48. > :35:52.playing. Well retrieved. Chris Langridge can't forget round 16 of
:35:53. > :35:53.the World Championships. It's not over until that shuttle hits the
:35:54. > :36:15.floor. Confident defending from Marcus
:36:16. > :36:20.Ellis. The Koreans still on the attack. Another miss from Chris
:36:21. > :36:34.Langridge at the net. Much better movement and aggression
:36:35. > :36:39.from the Koreans now that they are facing a game point and there's
:36:40. > :36:43.nothing to be worried about any more, not because I think they are
:36:44. > :36:47.running around being worried, but they seem to release some energy
:36:48. > :36:56.when you know you have almost lost the game. A terrific forehand drive
:36:57. > :37:19.from Chung a sock. Two game saved. Ellis and Langridge need to try to
:37:20. > :37:28.stay calm. Keep playing the way they've been playing.
:37:29. > :37:41.Little to choose between them in the early stages of the decider, we join
:37:42. > :37:56.at 4-4, with Ellis serving. COMMENTATOR: A diving defence from
:37:57. > :38:03.Chris Langridge. Disappointing, but surely you can't complain. Ellis
:38:04. > :38:04.almost caught with the slower drop. Out of position, and that almost
:38:05. > :38:21.came over. This time, Chris Langridge stranded
:38:22. > :38:29.at net. Taking one of the tapes. Choosing not to get involved and
:38:30. > :38:35.hope his partner Marcus Ellis was able to get back into a neutral
:38:36. > :38:37.position. Not to be. Some very fine attacking once more from this Korean
:38:38. > :39:19.pair. This time, the forecourt play from
:39:20. > :39:21.Marcus Ellis is effective. Good in stick to block to the net off the
:39:22. > :39:40.body from Marcus Ellis. England under some pressure at the
:39:41. > :39:46.moment. The momentum with the Koreans. Getting quite a lot of
:39:47. > :40:21.winners over the last five points. Chung and Kim maintained their
:40:22. > :40:24.dominance in the decider from that point. We rejoin at match point,
:40:25. > :40:45.with Langridge and Ellis 20-15 down. Look what it means to the pair from
:40:46. > :40:52.career! They really did play with nothing to lose. What a performance
:40:53. > :40:57.from them. We made too many mistakes, unforced errors, forced
:40:58. > :41:03.it. The return of serve quite poor. You can't sum it up, to be honest.
:41:04. > :41:09.No disrespect to them. They are a good pair, but we shouldn't lose,
:41:10. > :41:16.really. We know how to play, and at times, we were playing the right
:41:17. > :41:23.way. At times, we got drawn in. They are solid, but you put all that work
:41:24. > :41:28.in, you give it all you can and you don't perform on the day... It's
:41:29. > :41:35.tough to take. Credit to them, maybe, as well. Far, far from the
:41:36. > :41:39.result that Langridge and Ellis were hoping for in that. What went wrong?
:41:40. > :41:44.Is they're just too much pressure and too much going on in their
:41:45. > :41:50.minds? There was a lot of pressure on Chris Langridge. He is a new dad
:41:51. > :41:56.as well, of twins, so not getting much sleep. But they want it so
:41:57. > :42:00.well. Their bronze medal in Rio was not a fluke. They haven't had a good
:42:01. > :42:05.year so confidence levels are bit low, but a win here would have
:42:06. > :42:10.elevated them. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be. How important are the
:42:11. > :42:16.Commonwealth Games going to be next year for their partnership? They
:42:17. > :42:20.want to get more medals and go to Tokyo as well. They need a really
:42:21. > :42:24.good six months in the lead up to the Commonwealth Games, and if they
:42:25. > :42:29.can get that title, that will set them up. Realistically, the way
:42:30. > :42:34.things are looking, can they get that funding back? It's not looking
:42:35. > :42:39.great, to be sure. It's one of those situations where all the players can
:42:40. > :42:43.do is go out there and try their best. When the medals come in, they
:42:44. > :42:54.can put their case. What else can they do? The men's doubles final saw
:42:55. > :43:01.the Chinese pairing take on the Indonesians. The Chinese were
:43:02. > :43:08.unrelenting. Their attacking play saw them take the first and the
:43:09. > :43:16.second game. Gold for the Chinese duo. One more medals chance for
:43:17. > :43:22.England in this championship, and it comes in the form of Chris and Gabby
:43:23. > :43:40.Adcock. Super excited to get back to
:43:41. > :43:45.Glasgow. We went to the Commonwealth Games in 2014 and we have a good
:43:46. > :43:50.record there. We've been training really, really hard and we feel in
:43:51. > :43:54.good shape. Hopefully, that can transform on the court. It's really
:43:55. > :44:01.exciting. We are currently fifth in the world and we have been in the
:44:02. > :44:05.semis of most competitions this year. Hopefully we can get into the
:44:06. > :44:10.medal places in Glasgow. UK Sport are not funding us any more. We
:44:11. > :44:15.still want world and Olympic medals and we believe we can achieve them.
:44:16. > :44:19.If we can do that without the backing of UK Sport, fantastic. We
:44:20. > :44:25.want recognition for the sport, and we are on the way to doing that. It
:44:26. > :44:32.was a massive kick in the teeth, but as athlete and support staff, we
:44:33. > :44:35.will bounce back. We keep in touch with a lot of them still, which is
:44:36. > :44:40.nice. We still want to perform. We still want medals, and that is not
:44:41. > :44:47.going to change. We believe we can achieve that with or without the
:44:48. > :44:50.help of UK Sport. The sport of badminton is growing hugely
:44:51. > :44:56.worldwide. The prize money is going up, so it is really positive in
:44:57. > :45:00.terms of world badminton. If you are performing to a good level at
:45:01. > :45:05.tournaments, you will achieve decent prize money. We are not in it for
:45:06. > :45:11.the prize money. If we were, we would have tried tennis along time
:45:12. > :45:17.ago! The fifth seed had a buyer for the first round, and began their
:45:18. > :45:22.campaign with a strong showing, beating the French pair. Although
:45:23. > :45:28.not at their best in round three, they still had enough to ease past
:45:29. > :45:32.the Japanese pair of Kazuno and Kurihara. They're in press of form
:45:33. > :45:42.continued in the all-important quarterfinals. They secured at least
:45:43. > :45:47.world bronze. The Adcocks didn't want to finish there. Standing in
:45:48. > :45:57.their way of a place in the mixed double finals was the pairing of
:45:58. > :46:01.Zeng and Chen of China. So a bronze medal at least secured. How
:46:02. > :46:07.impressed were you with the way they performed? I was impressed with the
:46:08. > :46:12.way they came back. The Hong Kong pair played really well in the first
:46:13. > :46:18.set. To come back and refocus and think, we are better than this, that
:46:19. > :46:21.is what I am impressed with. With the way the rankings were, we
:46:22. > :46:27.expected them to come through this, but that first set did not throw
:46:28. > :46:30.them. Every match is different, and sometimes sport doesn't go as
:46:31. > :46:36.expected. If something doesn't go your way, it can really throw you,
:46:37. > :46:40.nerds and pressure. But their experience is showing in every
:46:41. > :46:45.single match. You have been in the situation where you have secured a
:46:46. > :46:50.medal but you want to push it on further. How do you do that in the
:46:51. > :46:57.semis? You know you can relax because you have a medal, but myself
:46:58. > :47:04.and Nick Robinson, we always wanted more. We did our homework, went over
:47:05. > :47:10.our tactics. They will be ready. As expected, the Chinese were strong
:47:11. > :47:17.from the off, and the Adcocks had few answers as Zheng and Chen are
:47:18. > :47:20.dominated. The English pair returned the fight in the second, though.
:47:21. > :47:39.That's where we pick up the action. Chris' net shot allowed Chen
:47:40. > :47:41.Qingchen to get her racket to the shot. Unable to control it over the
:47:42. > :48:07.net. A great punch clear from Gabby
:48:08. > :48:42.Adcock. Well played. That was out all day long.
:48:43. > :48:48.The Adcocks with absolutely nothing to lose. They can afford to give
:48:49. > :48:57.this everything. Don't hold anything back. It's great to see them playing
:48:58. > :49:16.with confidence. They are still down in the second.
:49:17. > :49:22.Gabby with the mess on the backhand. Chris Boufal with the easy push
:49:23. > :49:43.mid-court. A big space. Zheng Siwei spotted it
:49:44. > :49:47.and filled the gap quickly. Big smashes from Tianjin Chen as well.
:49:48. > :49:54.-- Chen Qingchen. Very well played, Gabby. Much better
:49:55. > :51:00.rally from the English. Adcock again taking on Chen at the
:51:01. > :51:01.net. Chen Qingchen working so hard. Variation from Chris. He's looking
:51:02. > :51:10.confident once more. The two very good short variations
:51:11. > :51:20.from Chris Adcock. Great cross smash, Zheng Siwei
:51:21. > :51:29.across the body. Great return from Gabby Adcock.
:51:30. > :51:38.Found the backhand corner. Big, high lift again from Gabby
:51:39. > :52:02.Adcock. A confident leave. Watched it all
:52:03. > :52:07.the way. The Adcocks have got a chance in this match if they can
:52:08. > :52:16.take them to three. I know that sounds obvious. Chris Adcock serving
:52:17. > :52:29.18-19. He's gone wide! Chris, what are you doing?
:52:30. > :52:40.Oh, my God. The umpire has called it in. That serve was wide, wasn't it?
:52:41. > :52:47.Are clearly wide! UMPIRE: They called in. You didn't
:52:48. > :52:55.challenge. Sorry, he confirmed that he calls out. He didn't say it,
:52:56. > :52:56.but... Good umpiring in the end. In the meantime, it's match point
:52:57. > :53:07.China. Chris might have just saved their
:53:08. > :53:27.chances of making this third game. Well, Gabby Adcock with the flick
:53:28. > :53:44.serve hide to Chen. Into the body. Chris Adcock has done it!
:53:45. > :53:56.For the first time since very early in this third game, the Adcocks of
:53:57. > :54:06.England have drawn level. Zheng Siwei doesn't look calm at all. Good
:54:07. > :54:08.return of serve, Zheng Siwei. His partner Chen is followed up well,
:54:09. > :54:16.straight down at Gabby Adcock. Huge amount of tension, and that's
:54:17. > :54:40.just in the commentary box! Good technique, Zheng Siwei. The
:54:41. > :54:55.backhand drives. Defence standing up so far. And he's done it again,
:54:56. > :55:03.Chris Adcock! Amazing speed in this rally. Great entertainment. Well,
:55:04. > :55:09.the English coaching staff needs to calm down. The Adcocks need to calm
:55:10. > :55:21.down. I need to calm down! Gold and silver medal opportunity at stake.
:55:22. > :55:33.Adcock's serve is punished by Chen Qingchen.
:55:34. > :55:53.It's called out. Heartbreak for the English pair. It was the game we
:55:54. > :55:57.were a bit disappointed by. We didn't go at them the way we should
:55:58. > :56:03.have done. They were putting the pressure on. When we did, it was
:56:04. > :56:10.successful. They really put the pressure on. Even though we were
:56:11. > :56:14.coming off a loss... Its defeat today, but it's a World Championship
:56:15. > :56:19.bronze medal, which is an incredible achievement. Definitely. We are
:56:20. > :56:25.super proud of the medal. It's tough to talk because we believe we can do
:56:26. > :56:32.more and we will come back next year trying to do more. The mixed doubles
:56:33. > :56:37.final would be a true heavyweight battle, with the Adcocks' conquerors
:56:38. > :56:46.against Lilliyana Natsir and Muhammad Ahmad from Indonesia. The
:56:47. > :56:50.Indonesians forced a decider, and they swept to victory and their
:56:51. > :56:56.first world gold together since 2013. There are a couple of other
:56:57. > :56:58.BBC Sport programmes to let you know about this week. Full all focus
:56:59. > :57:12.deadline day special is on Thursday. Confirmation it is a brilliant
:57:13. > :57:16.bronze medal at the World Championships for the Adcocks. That
:57:17. > :57:22.match was always going to be tough against the number one seeds. It was
:57:23. > :57:27.always going to be tough, but that Chinese pair were world-class. I
:57:28. > :57:32.always knew it was going to be very, very hard for the Adcocks to get
:57:33. > :57:38.into that game. The Chinese pair dominated, and though it was a very
:57:39. > :57:44.good second set, it wasn't enough. Is there anything more they could
:57:45. > :57:48.have done? It's always easy to say after, and they could have attacked
:57:49. > :57:53.better, but the Chinese pair didn't allow the Adcocks to attack. If you
:57:54. > :57:59.can't do that, you will never get into the game. Bronze is still a
:58:00. > :58:04.brilliant results, and the first medal at the championship since
:58:05. > :58:12.2011. Is it going to give them a chance in terms of funding reprieve
:58:13. > :58:17.and UK Sport? The reason badminton didn't get a title tarmac -- get
:58:18. > :58:26.funding was because it was deemed that a lack of hope of a medal. We
:58:27. > :58:28.have just got a medal. We will be keeping fingers and everything
:58:29. > :58:33.crossed over the next few months. The next big event will be the
:58:34. > :58:37.Commonwealth Games next year in the Gold Coast, Australia. But from us
:58:38. > :58:54.in Glasgow, it's goodbye. The only one who could mess it up
:58:55. > :59:05.was her. Success doesn't change you -
:59:06. > :59:14.fame does. Her favourite saying was -
:59:15. > :59:18.can I be me?
