:10:26. > :10:28.Here he is, Great Britain's Adam Peaty, the world-record holder, the

:12:09. > :12:12.has just made history as the Olympic champion.
:12:13. > :12:23.But she dragged out -- but she drowned out the noise. You out there

:13:17. > :13:22.And do it like no one before. Olympic gold medallists
:13:23. > :14:02.Adam Peaty and Nicola Adams. Let's start with you, Adam Henry you

:14:06. > :14:10.favourite, you would have thought pressure and nurse Angie smashed the

:14:25. > :14:27.before I went out to Rio, it was keeping cool and getting Team GB off
:14:28. > :14:31.to a good start. Massively proud to be British and no better way than to
:14:32. > :14:36.get the first Gold medal of the Games.
:14:37. > :14:40.APPLAUSE. That was great, it started the ball rolling. How different is
:14:41. > :14:44.it at an Olympics rather than any other competition? I don't know, the
:14:45. > :14:49.Olympics is something that has been with me since 2012, you talk about
:14:50. > :14:53.legacy and I took away that legacy of swimming, not swimming, but
:14:54. > :14:58.seeing people winning those Gold medals. Matt Jamison got the silver
:14:59. > :15:02.medal and Becky in 2008. There was something that I saw the opening
:15:03. > :15:08.ceremony and I wanted to be there one day and I took that to every
:15:09. > :15:12.race and here I'm talking in front of you and getting world records. It
:15:13. > :15:16.is all about giving back now and hopefully getting the other titles
:15:17. > :15:19.under my belt. What a massive privilege to stand here in front of
:15:20. > :15:25.you and thank you for the support you have given these last year's.
:15:26. > :15:34.You have a huge amount of support, including from your Nan. She
:15:35. > :15:42.supported you every step of the way, and your parents, for flying out,
:15:43. > :15:49.good luck to you. Nicola, you did it again. What was it like? Was it
:15:50. > :15:55.harder, defending the title? Yes, it was a lot harder. Everybody is
:15:56. > :15:58.coming for you, I was ranked number one going into the Olympics this
:15:59. > :16:06.time, everybody wants to be an Olympic champion. It was tough, but
:16:07. > :16:08.I got the job done. Now you are a double Olympic champion, 92 years
:16:09. > :16:16.since a boxer from Britain defended their title at the Olympics, was at
:16:17. > :16:20.one of your motivations? Yes. I wanted to create history again by
:16:21. > :16:24.becoming a double Olympic champion. Every time I step in the ring I want
:16:25. > :16:31.to be able to inspire the next generation. I have been able to do
:16:32. > :16:38.that every time. I would like to say thank you to everybody that has come
:16:39. > :16:40.out tonight, Birmingham! Started training for four years' time yet? I
:16:41. > :16:45.don't know yet! Who knows. Maybe. Adam, Nicola, stay here -
:16:46. > :16:47.because in a moment, another Olympic gold medallist
:16:48. > :16:49.will be joining us - Gabby. Yes, next up is an athlete
:16:50. > :16:52.who took less than two hours to achieve twice what no British
:16:53. > :16:55.gymnast had managed in 120 years. So let's relive the precision, poise
:16:56. > :17:16.and power of the man I just try to be normal, a normal
:17:17. > :17:20.day. I had a good sleep, breakfast, stretch, do what I practised. I try
:17:21. > :17:25.to keep it as normal as possible. It did not feel like a special day.
:17:26. > :17:31.Max Whitlock, the first of two macro finals.
:17:32. > :17:36.I use floor to warmly up to be ready for the pommel horse. I was hopeful
:17:37. > :17:40.of getting a medal, but what happened next was unreal.
:17:41. > :17:46.He knows he just needs to land this. What a performance. Great Britain's
:17:47. > :17:51.Max Whitlock is the floor Olympic champion.
:17:52. > :17:55.I don't feel emotional a lot, but that hit me, it was such a big
:17:56. > :17:59.surprise. Our first Olympic champion in
:18:00. > :18:04.gymnastics. In 40 minutes, he will be back to try and get his hands on
:18:05. > :18:07.another gold medal. I went backstage and sat with my
:18:08. > :18:12.medal for a couple of minutes, trying to make it sink in and
:18:13. > :18:15.realise what I had done. There was not much time to enjoy it, I knew I
:18:16. > :18:25.had not finished. A chance now on, Wee Course. In an
:18:26. > :18:31.hour, Max Whitlock, double Olympic champion.
:18:32. > :18:34.You train that long for the many years, you never think it will
:18:35. > :18:36.happen. You always believe it is possible.
:18:37. > :18:56.Ladies and gentlemen - give a big hand for Max Whitlock!
:18:57. > :19:09.You would if you could! You are joining esteemed company, the trio
:19:10. > :19:13.of firsts, 120 years, rate Britain waited for its first Olympic
:19:14. > :19:18.gymnastics gold medal, and you got to into hours, phenomenal
:19:19. > :19:22.achievement. When you were a little lad and you first went into the gym
:19:23. > :19:28.in Hemel Hempstead, did you dare to dream that big? I did not. My
:19:29. > :19:33.Olympic dream came when I was 17, when I stepped up to the senior
:19:34. > :19:38.level, I thought, what is possible? Up until that age, I started at
:19:39. > :19:42.seven, for ten years I was living a dream, love and the sport and doing
:19:43. > :19:52.my best. You have shown a generation of kids what is possible now, and
:19:53. > :19:57.there are so many budding Max Whitlock fans out there. It is
:19:58. > :20:02.exciting, it has been incredible, it has been an amazing journey. We
:20:03. > :20:09.could never have thought we would be here ten years ago. Hopefully the
:20:10. > :20:12.future can be bright. I always say that success breeds success, so
:20:13. > :20:18.hopefully what we are doing well inspire the next generation. You
:20:19. > :20:22.love a bit of planting, but how else has life changed? You are so
:20:23. > :20:28.recognisable, going out for food is problematic? It is good fun. The
:20:29. > :20:34.recognition has gone up hugely. Don't be modest! I walked out of a
:20:35. > :20:39.restaurant in London and got a standing ovation. As a gymnast, it
:20:40. > :20:43.is so unheard-of, and for us it is such an honour to be here and to
:20:44. > :20:45.have achieved what we have. It is the whole team, it is amazing. An
:20:46. > :20:50.extraordinary achievement. Adam Peaty, Nicola
:20:51. > :21:13.Adams and Max Whitlock. It is always summer somewhere.
:21:14. > :21:17.England's picketers chased the sun. In South Africa they glowed
:21:18. > :21:25.gloriously. Series secured. Venture further, like Joanna concert in
:21:26. > :21:30.Melbourne, into the Australian open semifinals, beaten by Angellica
:21:31. > :21:37.Bell. For the men, a familiar final, a familiar order, for now. For Jamie
:21:38. > :21:42.Murray and Bruno Suarez, a perfect start. A first grand slam singles
:21:43. > :21:46.title for Gordon Reid. North, follow the arrows, the World Championships
:21:47. > :21:51.for Gary Anderson, Scott Thwaites and Trina Gulliver. Ronnie
:21:52. > :21:57.O'Sullivan relaunched, the masters' master. The Super Bowl turned 50,
:21:58. > :22:02.the Broncos had a farewell party for Peyton Manning. Carl Frampton
:22:03. > :22:09.against Scott Quigg. Another night of the jackal. Sport -- spot kicks
:22:10. > :22:15.and acrobatics, League Cup victories.
:22:16. > :22:19.The weather tides of March. In the shadows of Ballsbridge, Cambridge
:22:20. > :22:23.are sinking. Oxford's women and Cambridge's men
:22:24. > :22:30.chose the right time. Near the source, a chop spring. Five golden
:22:31. > :22:36.riders in London. Labs of honour in the World Championships. A more
:22:37. > :22:38.trivial pursuit still helped raise more than ?72 million for sport
:22:39. > :22:48.relief. Hello!
:22:49. > :22:56.He like this! He has got a hole in one! There is tension here as Great
:22:57. > :23:04.Britain and Sweden fight it out for the Olympic medal. It looks very
:23:05. > :23:10.good. It will check up next to the pin. All of Great Britain is holding
:23:11. > :23:13.the putter. Justin Rose takes Olympic gold.
:23:14. > :23:17.Earlier in the golfing year, a Yorkshireman travelled to Augusta
:23:18. > :23:21.more in hope than expectation of being fitted with a green jacket.
:23:22. > :23:24.However, Sheffield's Danny Willett belied his
:23:25. > :23:34.underdog odds and wrote his own masterful story.
:23:35. > :23:43.Let me tell you a story about Danny, the champion of the world. Made of
:23:44. > :23:48.Sheffield steel and forged through hours of hard work on a Yorkshire
:23:49. > :23:58.hillside. He would chip and putt from dawn till dusk, daring to
:23:59. > :24:04.dream. Many years later, on an April afternoon, Danny sensed this might
:24:05. > :24:09.be his day. He has got that look in his eye.
:24:10. > :24:13.He looked at Jordan, who stood in his way. But at amen Corner the
:24:14. > :24:18.golfing gods frowned. That is water.
:24:19. > :24:29.Danny faced a test of nerve like no other.
:24:30. > :24:31.Take a deep breath. Follow the sun, Danny Willett! In control of his own
:24:32. > :24:37.fate. His head and his hands were steady.
:24:38. > :24:41.The biggest pot of his life, in it goes. Is the green jacket to be his?
:24:42. > :24:59.Indeed. The boy was ready. Just like that, he had realised his
:25:00. > :25:02.dream. As a master in green. That is the story of Danny, the champion of
:25:03. > :25:05.the world. A green day indeed as told
:25:06. > :25:07.by Mr Golf, Peter Allis. But before our Masters
:25:08. > :25:09.champion joins us, we turn to another
:25:10. > :25:11.Yorkshireman who's had an interesting relationship with his
:25:12. > :25:14.brother this year. In August, our next
:25:15. > :25:17.contender Alistair Brownlee defended his
:25:18. > :25:19.Olympic Triathlon title. But after
:25:20. > :25:21.beating Jonny to that gold, it was the helping hand he gave
:25:22. > :25:24.him in Mexico which has become the most wonderful moment
:25:25. > :25:43.from this wonder year. I don't there are any siblings that
:25:44. > :25:50.know each other sometimes. But on the whole, we get on pretty well. We
:25:51. > :25:58.started competing as five, six-year-old. Doing cross-country,
:25:59. > :26:02.running around the playing field. Somewhere along that path, you are
:26:03. > :26:09.competing against each other at the Olympic Games. To stand on the
:26:10. > :26:14.Olympic start line and have a joke with each other, wish each other
:26:15. > :26:17.best. That is a special thing, you should never take it for granted.
:26:18. > :26:29.They hit the waves. He is the finest we have ever seen.
:26:30. > :26:35.It will be a glorious golden 44 Alistair Brownlee. The Olympic
:26:36. > :26:44.triathlon champion for the second time.
:26:45. > :26:51.Dramatic scenes as the Olympic champion carries his younger brother
:26:52. > :26:56.towards the podium. The Brownlee brothers arm and arm. He is dragging
:26:57. > :27:04.him across the line, pushing him home.
:27:05. > :27:07.please welcome our likely lads from Yorkshire,
:27:08. > :27:43.The Masters champion, 20 years after the last British golfer one that
:27:44. > :27:47.prestigious green jacket. Jordan Spieth was well ahead going into the
:27:48. > :27:54.final round, when Billy you aware that he collapsed, and did you could
:27:55. > :28:00.win? Because a birdie on 13, and I knew we had trouble at ten and 11.
:28:01. > :28:05.15 was a moment. He chipped in for an eagle. I looked at the
:28:06. > :28:10.leaderboard, he had dropped from five to two. That is the moment you
:28:11. > :28:15.realise you are leading the Masters. You have got to step up and keep
:28:16. > :28:18.playing well. It is extraordinary, your preparation was far from ideal,
:28:19. > :28:22.you were the last player to register because your wife was just giving
:28:23. > :28:27.birth to Zachariah. It was doubtful that he would play in it. It is the
:28:28. > :28:32.year of the underdog. He was due on the Sunday. We always said that if
:28:33. > :28:40.he had not come along, I would stay at home. He came early and let me
:28:41. > :28:47.get out there. I registered last. Fate, you never know. I suppose you
:28:48. > :28:52.pop the green jacket out of the wardrobe now and again? It is just
:28:53. > :28:57.hanging up. I had a few quid on you, so thank you! Well played!
:28:58. > :29:03.He never shares his tips! Huge congratulations. Look at the support
:29:04. > :29:08.here on retaining your Olympic gold medal! We will discuss that first. A
:29:09. > :29:14.lot of people want to hear about your brother. You said that the gold
:29:15. > :29:22.medal was even sweeter than London. A key reasons. We all knew early on
:29:23. > :29:28.that heat was going to be a big issue, it is always going to be
:29:29. > :29:31.difficult for a pasty Yorkshire man. The second time around, a bit older,
:29:32. > :29:36.having a younger brother getting a bit closer, and just getting older,
:29:37. > :29:41.it is hard to retain. Crossing the finish line to feeling like I had
:29:42. > :29:46.dealt with it over the last year, ankle reconstruction, everyday
:29:47. > :29:49.getting up tired and feeling like I could not go training again, and
:29:50. > :29:54.crossing the finish line, as a personal thing it felt most
:29:55. > :29:58.litigant. You felt him snapping at your heels. You referred to the
:29:59. > :30:04.pasty Yorkshire man, you might be referring to heat exhaustion. We saw
:30:05. > :30:08.that in Mexico, the final race of the series, he is ahead of you,
:30:09. > :30:10.Jonny, you are coming around the corner and you see him staggering
:30:11. > :30:20.and stumbling. This is before the watershed but you
:30:21. > :30:24.can probably lip-read! I will not repeat it right now. First thing is
:30:25. > :30:31.a caring older brother along the lines of, you, profanity, idiots! At
:30:32. > :30:37.which point, it's a split-second decision and there is no time and
:30:38. > :30:43.I'd pick him up. Get him towards the finish line. As I go further down
:30:44. > :30:47.the straight, I work out the points situation and to win, Jonny still
:30:48. > :30:51.has to get a good amount of points to get first or second. I looked
:30:52. > :30:55.behind to see the other guys to see if they will catch us up and
:30:56. > :30:59.swearing more to get him at the finish line. We get to the finish
:31:00. > :31:05.line and I pushed across the finish line so he is in front of me, not
:31:06. > :31:10.just faced first! You never thought, I might sprint past? It was all
:31:11. > :31:11.about incredible brotherly love, well done, Alistair and good luck
:31:12. > :31:12.tonight. Good luck tonight - Danny Willett
:31:13. > :31:32.and Alistair Brownlee. Across the line and the Gold medal
:31:33. > :31:37.goes to Great Britain, Olympic champions again. Callum Skinner
:31:38. > :31:45.brings it home for Britain. Is it Britain or Australia? It is
:31:46. > :31:52.Britain in a world time! Towards the line! Silver, Rebecca
:31:53. > :31:57.James. Gold for Great Britain. They've smashed the world record.
:31:58. > :32:02.Spectacular silver from Callum Skinner. Mark Cavendish has a silver
:32:03. > :32:08.medal and it's a richly deserved one. As she got the legs to hold her
:32:09. > :32:13.up off? Can she get it on the line? She claims the Bronze medal in the
:32:14. > :32:15.women's sprint. Has Becky James got the speed? So close! Becky James
:32:16. > :32:18.wins her second silver medal in Rio. Team GB's Olympic track cycling
:32:19. > :32:21.machine is an awesome sight. In Rio, they won 11 medals,
:32:22. > :32:24.made up of six gold, four silver and two bronze and our next two
:32:25. > :32:27.contenders are very much the king and queen of that
:32:28. > :32:48.all-conquering team. Has this been the craziest year of
:32:49. > :32:59.your life, Laura? Pretty crazy, yes, but good crazy. A bit of Olympics
:33:00. > :33:08.and a bit of a wedding. Laura Trott! It must have been exhausting, Jason.
:33:09. > :33:11.Oh, yes. Kenny! Laura, you are now the most
:33:12. > :33:16.successful British female Olympian of all time, what an achievement!
:33:17. > :33:21.Yes, that is more than I could ever have dreamt of.
:33:22. > :33:25.Laura Trott, the first British woman ever to win three Olympic Gold
:33:26. > :33:32.medals! The end of the women's omnium, and
:33:33. > :33:35.less than half of the way to the Olympic Gold.
:33:36. > :33:38.The most successful female Olympian of all time, Laura Trott!
:33:39. > :33:46.I bet there were wild celebrations when you got back?
:33:47. > :33:56.Yes, something like that. Jason Cummings you had a remarkable summer
:33:57. > :34:01.in Rio, how'd you sum it up? It was not bad, I suppose. Jason
:34:02. > :34:05.Kenny, Great Britain are in the lead and the Gold medal goes to Great
:34:06. > :34:12.Britain! The sprint is on, Kenny at the front, Gold medal number five.
:34:13. > :34:18.On assuming, yet unstoppable! That Kieran was dramatic.
:34:19. > :34:24.Well, it was for me. Jason Kenny, can he claim a sixth Gold medal?
:34:25. > :34:29.Here we go! Faces being disqualified. We have to hope that
:34:30. > :34:35.was not Jason Kenny. The riders can stay in the race, it
:34:36. > :34:39.is what they've announced. What a relief! Under way and Jason Kenny
:34:40. > :34:45.has work to do. He has to go round the outside. Jason Kenny has got
:34:46. > :34:50.its! It's a golden hat-trick in Rio! A British record equalling six Gold
:34:51. > :34:57.medals! Shall we take the dogs for it work?
:34:58. > :35:02.Yes, can do. I will get the code. Jason, six Olympic golds now and a
:35:03. > :35:05.silver, that puts you on top of the pile British Olympians!
:35:06. > :35:18.I think you will find that is joint top!
:35:19. > :35:23.So this year, three World Championships Gold medals between
:35:24. > :35:25.you, five Olympic golds. You are pretty extraordinary! Pretty
:35:26. > :35:32.ordinary, actually! Please welcome cycling's supersonic
:35:33. > :36:00.couple, Jason and Laura Kenny. That was a very funny film! And so
:36:01. > :36:03.you! Jason, how much does it mean to you to equal the record of the man
:36:04. > :36:14.who lives in your downstairs cupboard? Yes, I know, it is like
:36:15. > :36:21.being haunted! Yes, it is amazing. I went basically 99% of what I know
:36:22. > :36:24.about elite performance and what to do at the Olympic Games from the
:36:25. > :36:29.gentleman over there! And he has moved into our closet recently! Yes,
:36:30. > :36:34.it is nicer kind of be able to carry that on. I would like to think I'm
:36:35. > :36:39.flying the flag for Chris as well. Yes, it is nice to be the next one
:36:40. > :36:43.and I feel I'm passing that to the next guys, we have a good team
:36:44. > :36:48.coming up and it is pretty special. I think you might have a greater
:36:49. > :36:53.sense of drama than him. That Kirin, it had everybody biting our nails,
:36:54. > :36:59.Chris included. Yes, it was a bit nervous. I mean, I didn't know what
:37:00. > :37:03.was going on, like everything with the Olympics. You are in your little
:37:04. > :37:08.world. You have no idea anybody is watching, let alone everyone! Yes,
:37:09. > :37:12.that was quite strange to find out everyone was watching that and
:37:13. > :37:15.everybody is now an expert in it which has never happened before!
:37:16. > :37:20.Random people quote rules to me now and everybody has an opinion. So
:37:21. > :37:24.that is really strange. It is good to see that people are interested.
:37:25. > :37:30.They are fascinated and they love what you both have achieved. Laura,
:37:31. > :37:35.four Olympic events entered and four Gold medals won and your mother
:37:36. > :37:40.spoke to me about how particular as a baby, it is extraordinary you are
:37:41. > :37:47.this good. Thanks! I just read around in circles! And I love what I
:37:48. > :37:51.do. Becoming the most successful female Olympian was an achievement
:37:52. > :37:56.in itself. But the biggest achievement for me was becoming one
:37:57. > :37:59.of what now is such a huge group of incredible female role models. For
:38:00. > :38:08.me, that is genuinely really important.
:38:09. > :38:13.You are right, it is so important. And around you is an ever-growing
:38:14. > :38:18.team of female cyclists getting better and stronger. Would the two
:38:19. > :38:23.of you ever double up? In the tanned maybe, you might have the work on
:38:24. > :38:30.your aerodynamics. That is just generally what happens at home. I
:38:31. > :38:34.just relax. Jason does all the work! That would have been a very
:38:35. > :38:42.different film! Congratulations on your wedding, by the way. And you
:38:43. > :38:43.are the first ever married couple on the Sports Personality of the Year
:38:44. > :38:58.short list, Jason and Laura Kenny! He is the World Number 1.
:38:59. > :39:02.He is the Jester from Leicester. Mark Selby, for the second time, he
:39:03. > :39:07.lives the world title and he becomes World Champion.
:39:08. > :39:17.This is why this man is World Number 1.
:39:18. > :39:20.Absolutely superb! Michael Sell be! -- Mark Selby!
:39:21. > :39:23.A great year for Mark Selby - the Jester from Leicester - but
:39:24. > :39:26.it's no joke when it comes to the serious business of
:39:27. > :39:29.For years, it's been dominated by the big boys.
:39:30. > :39:30.However, the 2015-16 season was different.
:39:31. > :39:35.And so, thanks to a group of passionate players,
:39:36. > :39:38.a coach with a point to prove and a phalanx of loyal fans
:39:39. > :39:40.who dared to dream, a 5000-1 impossibility -
:39:41. > :40:08.Sport's Unsung Hero the Premier league champions!
:40:09. > :40:18.Leicester City the Premier league champions! Anything is possible!
:40:19. > :40:24.I have lived here all my life and been a Leicester all my life, you
:40:25. > :40:29.never thought it would happen. I would have been happy with top 15. I
:40:30. > :40:31.reckon he will get us to the top ten.
:40:32. > :40:36.Jamie Vardy celebrates the first goal at the KP Stadium this season!
:40:37. > :40:40.The goal is to just stay in the Premier league, not the Champions
:40:41. > :40:44.League or the Europa League! No one knew about him, he came from
:40:45. > :40:49.the lower ranks. Nobody can stop Jamie Vardy right
:40:50. > :40:53.now! He is just so fast. Jamie Vardy has scored for the eighth
:40:54. > :40:59.consecutive Premier league game! What he has done and achieved, I it
:41:00. > :41:07.should be a movie. The record! He has still scored.
:41:08. > :41:12.Jamie Vardy! Jamie Vardy, away from his man, and he has scored, the
:41:13. > :41:17.Premier league record equalling goal. Is that records, banking in
:41:18. > :41:22.goals. He has done it! He has scored in 11 consecutive Games!
:41:23. > :41:24.The man of the moment, the man of the season.
:41:25. > :41:30.Christmas time, is started to believe a little.
:41:31. > :41:35.The story goes on and on. And then we started to win matches and you
:41:36. > :41:39.think... I don't think anybody thought it would last. Gary Lineker
:41:40. > :41:42.included. You will be sitting in that chair in your pants doing much
:41:43. > :41:46.of the Day next season. Thanks very much.
:41:47. > :41:50.It clicks. What a screamer!
:41:51. > :41:56.Nobody will ever forget that. What a goal that is! No one thought
:41:57. > :42:01.we could do it and the bookies have learned a lesson!
:42:02. > :42:04.They are closing in on the most unlikely Premier league title when
:42:05. > :42:15.of all time. Chelsea and Tottenham. Everyone was
:42:16. > :42:22.watching. Eden Hazzard! Leicester City are the champions of
:42:23. > :42:25.England. Now everyone knows Leicester City, it is the David and
:42:26. > :42:32.Goliath story. People will talk about it in years to come. Something
:42:33. > :42:37.truly unbelievable. Anything is possible. So pleased tab in able to
:42:38. > :42:40.see it. -- to have been able to see it. It
:42:41. > :42:42.still gets me! Ladies and gentlemen -
:42:43. > :42:44.please welcome the Leicester City squad, including their coach
:42:45. > :43:24.Claudio Ranieri and striker What a great turnout, thank you for
:43:25. > :43:31.coming! We've got 132 Leicester City bands representing 132 years
:43:32. > :43:36.Leicester's history and the last one was the only time they've ever won
:43:37. > :43:41.the league. Magnificent season, you were a non-league player a few years
:43:42. > :43:44.ago, what a story! Yes, it has been remarkable. The main thing is I
:43:45. > :43:48.would not have been able to do it without the boys behind me. So a
:43:49. > :43:56.great season overall. It certainly was on that record along the way is
:43:57. > :44:00.a little bonus. Yes, I keep getting Christians saying the 11th was his!
:44:01. > :44:07.That is just him for you! -- Christian. And the Vardy party was
:44:08. > :44:12.something special, it went viral. Every Leicester ban was doing the
:44:13. > :44:18.same thing, it was magical. Yes, it was a bit emotional. Tottenham 2-0
:44:19. > :44:22.up, it was quiet around the house and the first goal went in and
:44:23. > :44:26.everybody got excited and the second, everybody has seen the
:44:27. > :44:29.aftermath! Indeed! You have taken it easy in the league this season and
:44:30. > :44:34.you are looking for a Christmas break yourself! Some Games off. It
:44:35. > :44:42.is going on to win the Champions League now, isn't it? Who knows?
:44:43. > :44:48.Stranger things have happened! Won the league last year so why not? You
:44:49. > :44:58.never know. Claudio Ranieri, lovely to have you here this evening.
:44:59. > :45:06.You have managed 15 teams in five different countries over a spell of
:45:07. > :45:08.about 30 years, Claudia. It is your first major league title, it must
:45:09. > :45:19.have been so special? Thank you to my labs, the stuff, all
:45:20. > :45:27.of the fans, it was an amazing story. It was incredible, but it is
:45:28. > :45:40.true. At what stage did you think it was possible? I and a pragmatic man,
:45:41. > :45:48.I believed it when Eden Hazard scored a goal. Eight minutes to go!
:45:49. > :45:53.When we won at Manchester City, and when we lost against Arsenal, and I
:45:54. > :45:58.said, if Arsenal need 95 minutes to beat us, we can do something good
:45:59. > :46:04.this year. It is a very special achievement. Quite possibly the most
:46:05. > :46:09.unlikely success in the history of football. I am delighted to say the
:46:10. > :46:12.sports personality of The Year judging panel has voted you as the
:46:13. > :46:29.2016 Coach of the Year. To present the award are two
:46:30. > :46:31.top footballing men. One is a former Leicester boss who's
:46:32. > :46:33.now in charge of the Republic of Ireland - the
:46:34. > :46:36.other is the current Northern Ireland manager and the
:46:37. > :46:39.2015 Coach of the Year. Please welcome Martin O'Neill
:46:40. > :47:17.and Michael O'Neill. Many congratulations, if you would
:47:18. > :47:24.like to say a few words? I did not expect, I am honest. It is fantastic
:47:25. > :47:28.to take this award here in England. I can say only thank you again to my
:47:29. > :47:38.players, to the chairman, to all of my stuff, but of course, without our
:47:39. > :47:41.fans it was impossible to win this title. Thank you to everybody.
:47:42. > :47:45.Ladies and gentlemen, the Leicester City squad, Jamie Vardy, and the
:47:46. > :48:13.Coach of the Year, cloudy RNA eyrie. Jessica Ennis-Hill has recently
:48:14. > :48:16.retired, but since Rio de Janeiro, a 2011 world silver has turned into
:48:17. > :48:21.gold following the disqualification of a Russian athlete. It is
:48:22. > :48:29.fantastic to see you here. And Olympic and now three-time world
:48:30. > :48:33.champion. From a true great of the sport, we turn to the greatest track
:48:34. > :48:37.and field athlete Britain has ever produced, Mo Farah. He was the man
:48:38. > :48:49.with the unbeatable plan. Here we go, can Mo Farah win his
:48:50. > :48:55.third Olympic gold-medal? No British athlete has ever been able to do
:48:56. > :48:58.that. Try and work my way through the field and get close to the
:48:59. > :49:03.front. Somebody catches my leg, straight to ground. At that point
:49:04. > :49:09.there is nothing you can do. I was panicking, in the back of my mind I
:49:10. > :49:14.was like, it can't happen, you have worked too hard. You have to make
:49:15. > :49:22.sacrifices. Who wants to be away from their friends and family? I
:49:23. > :49:25.have to get up. He is quickly up, just got a little
:49:26. > :49:29.clip. I promised my daughter I would get a
:49:30. > :49:36.gold medal, I can't let her down. Here comes Mo Farah! They come to
:49:37. > :49:41.the inevitable, they bow to his superiority! Mo Farah wins the gold
:49:42. > :49:47.medal! I work hard and I spent a lot of
:49:48. > :49:50.time away from my family. I just had to believe, get through it, I wanted
:49:51. > :49:56.to do it for my kids. I was tired, my body was beaten up,
:49:57. > :50:00.you have to get over it. They will attack again, but Mo Farah
:50:01. > :50:05.has more to give. Mo Farah is going to get old for Great Britain again,
:50:06. > :50:08.the double-double. I felt like I did my kids proud and
:50:09. > :50:11.my nation proud. Mo sadly cant be with us
:50:12. > :50:14.here tonight but I'm delighted to How do you do it?
:50:15. > :50:47.a World and Olympic 5K/10k double - I am sorry I can't be there tonight.
:50:48. > :50:51.We do take it for granted. I dream of being Olympic champion once, then
:50:52. > :50:56.you do it twice in your hometown, and you think, how will it get
:50:57. > :51:00.better? You do it for years later and do what I have done, it has been
:51:01. > :51:08.incredible. I don't know how I do it sometimes. To stay fit is the number
:51:09. > :51:12.one aim, and to peak and perform as you do consistently on the biggest
:51:13. > :51:17.stage comes with sacrifices, and we know how much you adore your family
:51:18. > :51:25.and children, you spend so much time away, how do you cope? I love what I
:51:26. > :51:29.do. I do enjoy it. It is hard work, it is not easy being away from my
:51:30. > :51:34.family and my kids asking where I am, when they are ill you are not
:51:35. > :51:39.there, but it is worth it, it is worth everything. Making my nation
:51:40. > :51:44.proud, my country proud, being on the podium, hearing the national
:51:45. > :51:53.anthem, you cannot get any better than that. You have to make the most
:51:54. > :51:59.of it. I am repeating myself, but work hard for what you do. I try to
:52:00. > :52:06.do my best and work hard. Sometimes it comes with results. Every child
:52:07. > :52:10.now has an Olympic gold-medal! You said you will retire after the World
:52:11. > :52:17.Championships in London next year, so what will it be then, an assault
:52:18. > :52:21.on the marathon? My kids are happy, my oldest daughter was asking
:52:22. > :52:29.questions, and kept asking, and they got something. If I retire, they
:52:30. > :52:33.will have something forever, and that is the proudest thing, I could
:52:34. > :52:40.do something for my kids. In terms of going back to your question, it
:52:41. > :52:45.is hard to say. I would like to be able to do a better job than I did
:52:46. > :52:51.at the London Marathon. I did not get the best out of myself. It is
:52:52. > :52:54.about learning about the event, and hopefully getting the 2017 World
:52:55. > :52:58.Championships out of the way, and then I would like to be able to go
:52:59. > :53:03.to the marathon and learn about it and see what I can do. You are
:53:04. > :53:06.amazing. All of your kids have got a gold medal, and we have got magical
:53:07. > :53:08.memories from your incredible antics.
:53:09. > :53:10.Good luck tonight - Britain's most successful track and field athlete
:53:11. > :53:33.A decent start. Shoulder to shoulder at this point. But Jonnie Peacock
:53:34. > :53:58.pulls away. Jonnie Peacock's gold-medal again.
:53:59. > :54:08.A gold medal, unbelievable. A gold again for ParalympicsGB. Robinson
:54:09. > :54:13.wins gold! Hannah Cockroft takes the gold! She is the Paralympic champion
:54:14. > :54:34.again! Action there from athletics,
:54:35. > :54:43.cycling and swimming, where at the Rio Paralympics Britain won 147
:54:44. > :54:46.medals, including 64 golds, to finish
:54:47. > :54:49.second in the table. 16 of those golds came
:54:50. > :54:52.in the pool, with Bethany Firth here leading the way with three
:54:53. > :54:55.golds and a silver, and also Ellie Robinson - who,
:54:56. > :54:57.aged just 15, won Paralympic gold in a Games record time
:54:58. > :54:59.in the 50m Butterfly. And because of that, Ellie -
:55:00. > :55:03.as you may have seen on The One Show this week -
:55:04. > :55:06.was named as the Young Sports A huge response from everybody, what
:55:07. > :55:26.would you like to say? It is surprising to win this award,
:55:27. > :55:30.thank you to everybody that has played a part and helped me to win.
:55:31. > :55:37.It is great that you are here tonight as well, thank you.
:55:38. > :55:45.Continuing our tradition of gold-medal winning ten three macro.
:55:46. > :55:50.-- Eliies. Away from the pool, 15 golds
:55:51. > :55:52.were won in athletics and 12 came in cycling,
:55:53. > :55:55.two sports which our next two Kadeena Cox triumphed in
:55:56. > :55:58.the velodrome and on the athletics track while former champion swimmer
:55:59. > :56:00.Dame Sarah Storey won another three big Gs
:56:01. > :56:03.on her bike, a Rio Grande achievement indeed by
:56:04. > :56:14.two remarkable women. The journey has been challenging but
:56:15. > :56:20.rewarding. I love doing stalked -- sport, working hard is what I love
:56:21. > :56:23.doing. What it takes to be a champion has changed. Now that I am
:56:24. > :56:29.a mum, it is a different way of life. In 2014I got a diagnosis of
:56:30. > :56:35.multiple sclerosis. It was soul destroying. My sport saved me, it is
:56:36. > :56:40.what I needed to pick me up from the bottom of a pit, it gave me a goal,
:56:41. > :56:44.to go to the Paralympics. Discipline gets you there, it is not really the
:56:45. > :57:04.athlete that is the fastest, it is the one that slows down the least.
:57:05. > :57:11.When I found out I was pregnant after London, I was delighted. There
:57:12. > :57:16.was no Peugeot to come back. When Louisa arrived, I was at home, I
:57:17. > :57:20.gained four stone, and I wondered if I would ever be back to my athletics
:57:21. > :57:25.off, but the body is incredible, and when I got to Brazil, I was in
:57:26. > :57:30.better shape than in London. Sarah Storey are about to make
:57:31. > :57:34.history! She has won the gold-medal again. It is gold-medal number 14 in
:57:35. > :57:38.the career of Sarah Storey. It is great, having Sarah on the
:57:39. > :57:42.team, she has been doing it since the year after I was born, so she
:57:43. > :57:46.knows how to deal with it. It is good to have that around you, it
:57:47. > :57:51.gives you a boost, follow her and you will be fine.
:57:52. > :57:59.An incredible ride from Kadeena Cox, a huge gold-medal, with a brand-new
:58:00. > :58:04.world record! A gold-medal for Kadeena Cox, a new world record!
:58:05. > :58:09.She is a phenomenal athlete, I was watching with my mouth open, I could
:58:10. > :58:13.not believe it. I did not realise how quick she was going to go, it
:58:14. > :58:17.was immense. Anybody that watched me on the podium saw me smiling and
:58:18. > :58:24.dancing and crying. It was emotional. But it is a feeling you
:58:25. > :58:29.can't describe. The gold-medal not just on the bike
:58:30. > :58:35.but on the track as well. The most successful British female
:58:36. > :58:37.Paralympian of all time. The title was previously held by Tanni
:58:38. > :58:44.Grey-Thompson, who is a huge hero of mine. You are trying to make sure
:58:45. > :58:47.you inspire others to participate. Cycling is fantastic, so many women
:58:48. > :58:51.will be delighted to hear you just get better with age. You dream about
:58:52. > :58:58.doing it, but actually achieving something is different. I have
:58:59. > :59:01.managed to empower so many people. It makes me super emotional, but I
:59:02. > :59:08.love I have done something special. Have members of ParalympicsGB on the
:59:09. > :59:11.stage. Please welcome Paralympic stars
:59:12. > :59:41.Kadeena Cox and Dame Sarah Storey. Incredible work. Huge
:59:42. > :59:48.congratulations. Let's go back to a promising athlete who loved her
:59:49. > :59:53.sport and then the strokes and diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, how
:59:54. > :59:58.important was sport to you? I say it all the time, it saved my life. I
:59:59. > :00:02.would never have got to where I am mentally had I not got back into
:00:03. > :00:09.sport. It took me a couple of days, I was trying to get back. It kept me
:00:10. > :00:13.driven, you set a goal and you want to achieve it. Every athlete will
:00:14. > :00:16.know that when you have a goal, you will do anything to achieve what you
:00:17. > :00:20.want to which Eve. I just worked really hard and it helped me forget
:00:21. > :00:25.about the horrible situation, the nights when I was up all night
:00:26. > :00:26.because I was spasming. It made me realise there was something bigger I
:00:27. > :00:35.could do. The challenges physically, they are
:00:36. > :00:41.enormous, you tackle one sport and you decide to get on a bike to see
:00:42. > :00:45.if you are good at that, why? I feel like Laura stole my line, because I
:00:46. > :00:50.like running and cycling in circles! It was just something that came up
:00:51. > :00:56.and I was good and it helped. I was all right! And you are this
:00:57. > :01:02.important and powerful role model. Many reasons, have you realised that
:01:03. > :01:05.since you have returned from Rio? Yes, it is really weird, but I enjoy
:01:06. > :01:09.it, I wanted to do something different and push the boundaries
:01:10. > :01:13.and show with setbacks and even as a female athlete, you can achieve what
:01:14. > :01:18.you want to achieve. I wanted to do that so people could think, maybe I
:01:19. > :01:24.could do that as well. And you do it with a glorious smile on your face,
:01:25. > :01:28.with such joy. Good luck tonight, Kadeena. And of course, Kadeena is
:01:29. > :01:33.the new kid on the Paralympic block. She would look to somebody like Dame
:01:34. > :01:38.Sarah Storey for inspiration and in terms of longevity, your career is
:01:39. > :01:45.epic! Yes, as MS reminded me, she was born the year before I started!
:01:46. > :01:51.Did she say that to you? That is Kadeena reminded me. I started as a
:01:52. > :01:54.14-year-old and I came home to do my GCSE courses and I went on Blue
:01:55. > :01:59.Peter and I got my A-level results all sides in Atlanta in April box
:02:00. > :02:04.because mobile phones were not invented! They might have been, but
:02:05. > :02:09.only for businessmen. I came home and I went on no's house party back
:02:10. > :02:15.in the day! I did not get in the gunge tank. The swimming pool in the
:02:16. > :02:18.cycling through ear infections. But it is the lessons in swimming and
:02:19. > :02:25.that dedication you need to get up early that has allowed me to be good
:02:26. > :02:29.on the bike and cycling is my first love and I love being out in the
:02:30. > :02:33.countryside and training my heart out. Mainly on the road. And I do
:02:34. > :02:39.the whizzing round bet on the track and back out on the road, so
:02:40. > :02:43.incredible it has been so long. Seven Paralympic Games and 14 Gold
:02:44. > :02:48.medals, Rio the most challenging as you had a fairly big change in life
:02:49. > :02:52.between London and Rio. It was at this .4 years ago I announced I was
:02:53. > :02:59.pregnant. Don't worry, I am not doing that tonight! Louise arrived
:03:00. > :03:05.in the summer of 2013 and I decided it was time to get back on the bike.
:03:06. > :03:10.Nine months later, I40 macro two world titles and realised Rio was
:03:11. > :03:14.definitely on and to have her in Rio was the icing on the cake. You'd
:03:15. > :03:19.think it is amazing to win your home Games and it is and to have your
:03:20. > :03:26.little girl in the crowd and jumping over the fence, it is just amazing
:03:27. > :03:29.to have her out there with the family, amazing support. Another
:03:30. > :03:44.wonderful performance from both of you. Many thanks and good luck, Dame
:03:45. > :03:51.Sarah Storey and Kadeena Cox. The world to 20 final. England, West
:03:52. > :03:59.Indies, breathtaking Brathwaite. Four balls, four sixes,
:04:00. > :04:05.Unforgettable, another big hitter, Anthony Joshua, blasted his way to a
:04:06. > :04:10.world title. Across London, a trip, but still a triumph. Personal
:04:11. > :04:15.victories on the streets behind and the skies above. From out of this
:04:16. > :04:21.world to ruling the world in the Grand National. The champion jump
:04:22. > :04:25.jockey was Richard Johnson. In Wembley, the Wembley sway, but
:04:26. > :04:30.Manchester United had the FA Cup's killer move. A familiar winning
:04:31. > :04:37.routine for Arsenal's ladies are the Champions League, who else? Ronaldo.
:04:38. > :04:43.Gareth Bale and Real Madrid. Liverpool in the rugby league. Title
:04:44. > :04:50.number 47 for Celtic, Hibernian had, that for a while.
:04:51. > :04:56.114 years of pain! One team in club rugby union, a season of Saracens
:04:57. > :05:02.Silver. The Pro12 went to convert. A world title to the toughest of
:05:03. > :05:06.toffees. Trueblue Tony Bellew. Glorious birds like Ricky in
:05:07. > :05:13.Glasgow. Alistair Cook's 10,000th run helped England Sea of Sri Lanka.
:05:14. > :05:17.A landmark Brown also in the Derby. A modern milestone for a British UFC
:05:18. > :05:26.champion. In Paris, a glimpse of the future. But Andy Murray was still
:05:27. > :05:31.waiting to get past Novak. And he did not have to wait long!
:05:32. > :05:35.More of that later. And you are keen to vote, but do not do so yet
:05:36. > :05:40.because you cannot vote until you see the 16 contenders.
:05:41. > :05:42.some of the British team from the Invictus Games
:05:43. > :05:46.Now in its second year, the event for wounded,
:05:47. > :05:54.injured and sick servicemen and women is a global event
:05:55. > :05:57.It truly demonstrates the healing power of sport.
:05:58. > :06:00.And so from the wonderful Invictus athletes,
:06:01. > :06:03.it's time now to give out the Get Inspired Unsung Hero -
:06:04. > :06:04.which recognises those wonderful people from our communities
:06:05. > :06:07.who do so much work at grass roots level.
:06:08. > :06:09.To present it, please welcome a Sport Relief fundraising
:06:10. > :06:11.marathon man and a lady whose dignified and courageous
:06:12. > :06:13.campaigning for 27 years helped the 96 Hillsborough victims and
:06:14. > :06:15.their families finally get the truth and justice
:06:16. > :06:20.It's a pleasure to welcome Eddie Izzard and Margaret Aspinall.
:06:21. > :06:48.Margaret, it's wonderful you are here to represent all the
:06:49. > :06:50.families following the verdict in April, you are an inspiration
:06:51. > :07:00.Thank you. Absolutely.
:07:01. > :07:03.And, Eddie, as our Get Inspired Ambassador it's lovely
:07:04. > :07:07.to have you back with us and it would be fitting if you
:07:08. > :07:11.Tonight is our opportunity to celebrate
:07:12. > :07:14.volunteers all over the UK who give up their precious time
:07:15. > :07:20.Without you, we simply wouldn't have nights like this and we
:07:21. > :07:26.wouldn't have the amazing sportsmen and women we do.
:07:27. > :07:30.So, please, let's all come together and by using the
:07:31. > :07:32.#BigThankYou, let's tell the volunteers everywhere what they
:07:33. > :07:46.So the details for all of you at home are on the screen.
:07:47. > :07:59.You know a volunteer or if it is all volunteers working for free.
:08:00. > :08:01.Tonight, here at this magnificent event, we are lucky
:08:02. > :08:03.to be joined by 15 Unsung Heroes from all the
:08:04. > :08:14.I would love a big round of applause for them.
:08:15. > :08:17.You are all incredible but, tonight, only one of you can be
:08:18. > :08:35.I was brought up in an area of deprivation. I got myself into gangs
:08:36. > :08:41.and I got a criminal record and I was going down the wrong pathway. I
:08:42. > :08:46.in a dark place and I was suicidal and boxing was something that helped
:08:47. > :08:51.me. So I thought, set up a boxing club. And through the boxing club, I
:08:52. > :08:56.was getting people like myself who I could relate to because I had been
:08:57. > :09:01.there and done it myself. Marcellus Baz is an icon, you does not just
:09:02. > :09:06.provide the gym but a refuge. He is very dedicated. He does not give up
:09:07. > :09:12.on you. He is like the older brother I have not got. He is a special man.
:09:13. > :09:16.He makes me feel happy, like where I need to be.
:09:17. > :09:20.It means the world to me to give people focus and direction and
:09:21. > :09:24.support and that gives me so much satisfaction and it gives me so much
:09:25. > :09:25.drive to continue doing what I am doing.
:09:26. > :09:30.Please welcome the Get Inspired Unsung Hero for 2016.
:09:31. > :10:16.Congratulations, Marcellus, would you like to
:10:17. > :10:16.Congratulations, Marcellus, would honoured to be here today.
:10:17. > :10:23.Speechless, Marcellus Baz!
:10:24. > :11:08.my family who has had to support Huge noise was the comments! It is
:11:09. > :11:32.number four, Mark Cavendish! Another Tour de Force
:11:33. > :12:08.by Chris Froome. And so is our next
:12:09. > :12:16.contender Andy Murray, who sizzled in the summer and starred
:12:17. > :12:21.throughout the whole of the tennis year to end up
:12:22. > :12:31.as the Christmas number one. A young boy from Dunblane who dared
:12:32. > :12:36.to dream. Hopefully I will play at Wimbledon in about four years.
:12:37. > :12:41.First, Wimbledon, then the world. Lofty ambitions for a kid from
:12:42. > :12:50.Scotland. In 2016, his dreams came true.
:12:51. > :12:58.The year started with his old nemesis on top. Time to put the
:12:59. > :13:03.tennis on hold. I will be on the next flight home. The boy was now a
:13:04. > :13:08.father, added responsibility, a different outlook on life, would he
:13:09. > :13:14.take his eye off the ball? Not a chance. A first final in Paris.
:13:15. > :13:19.Reunited with his old coach. A record fifth title at Queen's and
:13:20. > :13:24.then, Wimbledon. He is there! It is Murray's time in
:13:25. > :13:28.the sunshine of Centre Court once again. It was turning into the
:13:29. > :13:34.perfect summer. Andy Murray has won a Gold medal
:13:35. > :13:38.again! For all the success, there was still
:13:39. > :13:45.one thing missing. He is the World Number 1!
:13:46. > :13:53.The 2016. The boy from Dunblane dreamt big. In 2016, Andy Murray's
:13:54. > :13:58.dreams came true. Yes, he is something else! And they
:13:59. > :14:11.can join us live from his training base in Miami. You look pretty
:14:12. > :14:15.comfortable, not a bad spot. Your second Wimbledon title and second
:14:16. > :14:20.Olympic title, number one in the world, that must be a pretty good
:14:21. > :14:25.year? Yes, it has been the best year in my
:14:26. > :14:29.career. Winning Wimbledon the second time after losing a lot of big
:14:30. > :14:33.finals the last couple of years was really important for my confidence.
:14:34. > :14:38.The Olympics again was amazing and the finish the year number one was
:14:39. > :14:42.something I had never done before and I never expected to do. The last
:14:43. > :14:47.six months were the best of my career on the court. It has been a
:14:48. > :14:51.great year for tennis in the UK. We had Johanna Konta in the top ten in
:14:52. > :14:54.the singles for the women and my brother got to number one in
:14:55. > :15:00.doubles. Gordon Reid in the Wheelchair Singles and in the quad
:15:01. > :15:04.singles finishing number one, so a great year for tennis and proud to
:15:05. > :15:12.be a part of that. It is also the year that you became
:15:13. > :15:15.a father. Now, most fathers find it quite difficult to adapt to work
:15:16. > :15:20.after that, but it seems to have been an inspiration for you.
:15:21. > :15:30.I have loved it. It was a challenge, obviously, at the start there are a
:15:31. > :15:34.lot of things to learn, it is a big adjustment in your life, but it made
:15:35. > :15:39.me realise that tennis is not the most important thing any more, there
:15:40. > :15:45.is more to life than my sport. Away from the court I am a lot happier, I
:15:46. > :15:52.am not thinking about tennis all of the time. It has helped my
:15:53. > :15:56.performances on the court. You are now number one in the world, going
:15:57. > :16:04.into next year, is it your time to dominate tennis? Is that the
:16:05. > :16:10.ambition? I don't know. I will try my best. That is why I am here,
:16:11. > :16:18.training in Miami. Away from my family. Trying to keep getting
:16:19. > :16:21.better. Now that I have got to normal one, it has taken a lot of
:16:22. > :16:27.hard work to get there, I want to try my best to stay there. It will
:16:28. > :16:31.be tough, I am getting older, and a lot of the new guys are really big
:16:32. > :16:35.talents. I will give it my best shot, but it will be hard. We wish
:16:36. > :16:39.you well, thank you for joining us again. One of our Chief contenders,
:16:40. > :17:01.Andy Murray, the world number one. David Florence, Richard Hounslow,
:17:02. > :17:05.silver medal. Liam Heath, the most successful British Olympic paddle of
:17:06. > :17:13.all time. It is sharper than sharp. Joe Clarke is the Olympic champion.
:17:14. > :17:19.Giles Scott, the gold-medal winner in the men's heavyweight. Hannah
:17:20. > :17:22.Mills and Saskia Clark take the gold medal in the women's to Person
:17:23. > :17:31.dinghy. Nick Dempsey, another silver. Forgive orderly and
:17:32. > :17:38.Katherine Grainger, the most decorated female Olympian of all
:17:39. > :17:43.time. Helen Glover and Heather Stanning. Five in a row, they have
:17:44. > :17:45.done it in style again. The first time Great Britain have won an
:17:46. > :17:49.Olympic medal in the women's's eight. Great Britain in the men's
:17:50. > :18:00.eight of the Olympic champions. One of the most successful
:18:01. > :18:02.partnerships has come to an end, but we are delighted to see Heather
:18:03. > :18:07.Stanning and Helen Glover here tonight. Thank you for coming.
:18:08. > :18:12.Talking of partnerships ending, Charlotte Dujardin and her wonder
:18:13. > :18:18.horse bowed out after defending their individual title in the
:18:19. > :18:24.summer. But putting his feet up is not an option for our next
:18:25. > :18:25.contender. At 58, he became an Olympic individual show-jumping
:18:26. > :18:37.champion. It is Nick Skelton. The best sports people in the world
:18:38. > :18:45.are gifted. This is a natural talent. He just gets on, he rides.
:18:46. > :18:52.You are lucky that you have a long career. This one has been very long.
:18:53. > :18:58.A star is born. Nick Skelton. At the time he seemed indestructible, to me
:18:59. > :19:03.anyway. I broke my neck in 2000, they said I should not ride again,
:19:04. > :19:07.that was a bad time. I landed vertically, on the top of my head.
:19:08. > :19:13.The vast majority of people who have that guy. If you want it, you have
:19:14. > :19:21.to work hard. I did not think for a minute he would not ride again. We
:19:22. > :19:28.are all horsemen, it is all we do. If ever a horse was going to do it,
:19:29. > :19:30.he was, brave, intelligent. When Big Star came along, we knew the dream
:19:31. > :19:33.was on. This is the one he wants more than
:19:34. > :19:39.any. It was his last chance.
:19:40. > :19:45.What a composition. This is it, do or die. Nick Skelton
:19:46. > :19:54.and extort take the gold medal for Great Britain.
:19:55. > :19:56.After trying, crashing out. To finally achieve the dream, that is
:19:57. > :20:06.special. The most emotional moment of the
:20:07. > :20:08.Olympic Games for me and many people. We will talk to him in a
:20:09. > :20:12.moment. One of the star Paralympians
:20:13. > :20:14.on horseback in Rio was, once again, Sophie Christiansen,
:20:15. > :20:16.who plays the most impressive numbers game
:20:17. > :20:29.in all walks of life. Two months premature, one heart
:20:30. > :20:36.attack, one collapsed lung, as well as Syria ball pulls the. -- three
:20:37. > :20:42.ball pulls the. Sophie Christiansen has spent her life ignoring this
:20:43. > :20:47.chaos theory. It is not this order, but the purest form of order, that
:20:48. > :20:50.can make half a tonne of horse moved to such a precise rhythm that it
:20:51. > :21:01.brings gold medal at the gold-medal after gold-medal. A first Masters in
:21:02. > :21:06.mathematics, two days a week working in the Square mile. Giving the mind
:21:07. > :21:10.a different focus. Lessening the intensity of competing at the
:21:11. > :21:16.highest level. Other numbers are earned in an equation that takes
:21:17. > :21:19.four long years to solve. Training hours times dedication times sweat
:21:20. > :21:27.times pain times effort times she unbeatable will. It equals
:21:28. > :21:32.incredulous, incredible results, four Paralympic appearances, ten
:21:33. > :21:37.medals, eight of them gold, three gold medals in Rio de Janeiro, a
:21:38. > :21:40.proven equation cannot rely. Sophie's formula is the winning
:21:41. > :21:47.formula. But there is one last number. One beaming, life affirming,
:21:48. > :21:52.determined, successful against all the odds, bright and enormous smile.
:21:53. > :22:19.Please welcome Sophie Christiansen and Nick Skelton.
:22:20. > :22:26.Sophie, I know how busy you are, how hard you work in the city. What does
:22:27. > :22:35.Riding bring to your life, why is it so important for you to be
:22:36. > :22:45.competing? I started riding at six. To help my disability.
:22:46. > :22:55.I have been really competitive all my life. When I found a sport I
:22:56. > :22:57.could excel at, I just wanted to be the best I could be. You most
:22:58. > :23:11.certainly are. Usually, in any equestrian sport,
:23:12. > :23:21.you build up a partnership with your horse, but you did not have that
:23:22. > :23:26.luxury in herself. When you have is -- been in the sport for so long,
:23:27. > :23:30.you need to keep it fresh, and I do that by using different horses. In
:23:31. > :23:38.all of the four Paralympic Games I have competed on different horses,
:23:39. > :23:44.to make sure I peek at the right time. Just to give yourself an extra
:23:45. > :23:52.challenge! Eight Paralympic gold medal so far. And counting, you can
:23:53. > :24:03.be sure of that. Nick proving that the best things to those who wait.
:24:04. > :24:12.Yes, I waited a long time. I was getting near the end, I was running
:24:13. > :24:20.out of time. Luckily it all went right. It sure did. You were first
:24:21. > :24:24.to go in the jump off, you are half show-jumper, half jockey, you have a
:24:25. > :24:31.racing brain, you went for it. When you have a horse like that, it makes
:24:32. > :24:39.the job easier. All over my career I feel very honoured to have served my
:24:40. > :24:44.country for 40 years at what I do, and to win the gold medal on the
:24:45. > :24:56.last chance, I had a team in London which was great, but I think Rio was
:24:57. > :24:59.more special. It is great. I feel very privileged to be standing here
:25:00. > :25:05.tonight with all of these great sportsmen and sportswomen. To stand
:25:06. > :25:08.here is terrific. It is probably going to be the last time I am
:25:09. > :25:13.standing here. I am running out of time. I would like to thank
:25:14. > :25:17.everybody that has helped me along the way stop a lot of people,
:25:18. > :25:23.especially those who have bought lottery tickets, to help Team GB
:25:24. > :25:26.with the UK lottery. Without them, our medal tally not have been as
:25:27. > :25:31.good, so I want to thank those people. You paid -- played your
:25:32. > :25:33.part. Good luck tonight, Nick Skelton
:25:34. > :25:51.and Sophie Christiansen. Wimbledon, Britain in Bloom. Week
:25:52. > :26:00.one belonged to a late flower, Marcus Willis. This is unbelievable.
:26:01. > :26:04.Centre of attention again, Serena Williams, grand Slam 22. The
:26:05. > :26:14.wheelchair singles to Gordon Reid, and the doubles. At the open, golf
:26:15. > :26:22.from another dimensional. What a round of golf. A first victory for
:26:23. > :26:26.Henrik Stenson. The women's open went to this player. The British
:26:27. > :26:28.Grand Prix was the home leg of a Hamilton rally, and another title at
:26:29. > :26:33.another wait for that man Carl Frampton. Energetic Pakistan gave
:26:34. > :26:43.England a most thorough work-out. Joe Root to tip, series drawn.
:26:44. > :26:50.Northants sees the #BigThankYou crown. British history in MotoGP,
:26:51. > :26:54.two race victories for Cal Crutchlow. The Great North Run, a
:26:55. > :27:01.day of reddish icons. All dog spirit for Kell Brook, even in defeat. No
:27:02. > :27:05.disgrace either in the Davis Cup. But Great Britain made way for
:27:06. > :27:09.Argentina. It went downhill gloriously for Great Britain in
:27:10. > :27:13.mountain biking. The county summer came down to a session, Middlesex's
:27:14. > :27:16.moment. Warwickshire's day in the cup. Manchester City's Super League
:27:17. > :27:22.season, unbeaten. Well done, Birmingham,
:27:23. > :28:25.for that Viking Thunderclap. But there's no need to give
:28:26. > :28:28.yourself a round of That famous chant will
:28:29. > :28:31.live long in the memory following this summer's
:28:32. > :28:32.European Championships, where headlining for the home
:28:33. > :28:34.nations were Wales. Led by our next contender,
:28:35. > :28:37.the brilliant Gareth Bale. The Dragons had the time
:28:38. > :28:46.of their lives, so let's relive those five weeks
:28:47. > :28:48.of fantasy football en France, in the company of
:28:49. > :28:58.The Voice, Sir Tom Jones. We are a small nation, a small,
:28:59. > :29:01.proud nation. We thought we knew who we were, but this summer changed
:29:02. > :29:09.things. We thought our sporting passion lay mostly with the oval
:29:10. > :29:13.ball. We were wrong. We wanted to enjoy the Euros, but did not expect
:29:14. > :29:21.to be in France for long. Wrong again. We really believed we were
:29:22. > :29:29.together, stronger, but we had no idea how strong. Euro 2016 saw
:29:30. > :29:32.strength in many different guises. Like strength in rising to the
:29:33. > :29:41.expectation of being home favourites. A strength also in
:29:42. > :29:45.overcoming the odds, stubbornly ignoring predictions of failure.
:29:46. > :29:50.Gareth McAuley for Northern Ireland! The grandiose reputations of
:29:51. > :29:57.opponents matching them blow for blow. And in these moments of
:29:58. > :30:04.strength, we also see weaknesses. When the pressure becomes too much.
:30:05. > :30:08.The bravado will and the soul is stripped bare.
:30:09. > :30:09.Iceland has turned it around! England's embarrassment is Iceland's
:30:10. > :30:20.ecstasy. And all that is left is a broken
:30:21. > :30:24.dream. For Wales, the dream was very much alive. Of course, it helps to
:30:25. > :30:31.have one of the best players in the world. Off the pitch, Gareth was
:30:32. > :30:36.like one of the boys. But on it, he was every inch the superstar we know
:30:37. > :30:40.he is. He got us to France and he was going to do everything he could
:30:41. > :30:45.to keep as there! It is that manner, Gareth Bale, what
:30:46. > :30:49.a ball, what a goal! Even in the quarterfinals, we were
:30:50. > :30:54.living the dream. I was small, proud nation.
:30:55. > :31:00.Wales are heading into the semifinals!
:31:01. > :31:10.Wake your kids up, something special is happening here tonight!
:31:11. > :31:14.In the semifinals, we faced Portugal. A team with a similar
:31:15. > :31:18.mindset and make-up. They also had one of the greatest players in the
:31:19. > :31:23.world. Across, Ronaldo! Against Wales,
:31:24. > :31:27.Cristiano Ronaldo made the difference.
:31:28. > :31:31.It will be Portugal in Paris on Sunday.
:31:32. > :31:34.In Paris, Portugal's collective strength was more evident his
:31:35. > :31:40.absence. And a shot!
:31:41. > :31:46.A super strike! Football is a sport with incredible individuals. But
:31:47. > :31:51.Euro 2016 reminded us we had nothing without the team. Portugal, France
:31:52. > :31:53.and Wales, we were all together. Stronger.
:31:54. > :31:57.Sadly, Gareth's unable to join us - he's
:31:58. > :32:24.But his gaffer's here, Wales boss Chris Coleman.
:32:25. > :32:31.Thank you for the pleasure you gave us during the summer, the nominal
:32:32. > :32:34.performance from the Welsh team and your management was obviously a
:32:35. > :32:41.vital part of that. How important to you was Gareth Bale, the contender
:32:42. > :32:46.tonight? Yes, I think when you have a player with that talent, it is one
:32:47. > :32:53.thing having him, you need him to perform. And thankfully, he did that
:32:54. > :32:58.99% of the time. And when you have got that someone to follow, you have
:32:59. > :33:03.got a standard set and we try to follow that standard. He has been
:33:04. > :33:08.absolutely magnificent. And also, a Champions League winner for Real
:33:09. > :33:12.Madrid this year. How good is he? How does he compare with the great
:33:13. > :33:19.players we have on the planet at the moment? I think you have to say he
:33:20. > :33:26.is up there. The wind two Champions League tournaments in three years --
:33:27. > :33:29.to win. For a player from our country, Wales, England, Scotland,
:33:30. > :33:34.Ireland, Republic of Ireland, to go abroad and the plague, he is one of
:33:35. > :33:38.the more successful players to win two Champions League is in three
:33:39. > :33:43.years. He will get better, he has a fantastic mentality and he has a
:33:44. > :33:47.natural talent so for me, you have to put him up there with some of the
:33:48. > :33:51.best players in the world. As for Wales and yourself coming you have
:33:52. > :33:56.set yourself high standards, semifinal of the Euros, Russia 2018
:33:57. > :34:01.final? That is the only way forward! We are in good company at the
:34:02. > :34:06.minute. We have got Martin O'Neill and Michael O'Neill who have done
:34:07. > :34:09.fantastic jobs with their respective countries. Gareth Southgate is here
:34:10. > :34:23.and I want to wish him the best with England. I think the home-grown
:34:24. > :34:24.countries looking quite good at the moment.
:34:25. > :34:29.They certainly are, lovely to see you here, thank you much.
:34:30. > :34:31.And, Gareth, if you are watching at home,
:34:32. > :34:34.Ladies and gentlemen, Chris Coleman and
:34:35. > :34:54.Olympic Games Rod Lawler -- Bronze Medallist.
:34:55. > :34:59.This one is really hotting up. One second away. And that is the head
:35:00. > :35:01.shot in the last second, what a turnaround, Mohamed could not hang
:35:02. > :35:05.on. I was so close to being Olympic
:35:06. > :35:08.champion! Jade Jones, the fighter from Flint.
:35:09. > :35:16.This promises to be an absolute classic! Olympic Taekwondo at its
:35:17. > :35:22.very best. The Welsh wonder strikes Gold again! Double Olympic champion.
:35:23. > :35:24.The complete gold, silver and bronze Taekwondo set -
:35:25. > :35:29.and it's lovely to see Wales' double Olympic champion Jade Jones here.
:35:30. > :35:33.And so from a wonder woman, we move on now to a group of wonder women
:35:34. > :35:39.captained by our final contender, Kate Richardson-Walsh.
:35:40. > :35:41.The British hockey team made a massive impact in Rio, as millions
:35:42. > :35:44.followed their progress to the final, which was to have the most
:35:45. > :35:58.There was an unbelievable sense of belief that the team could do
:35:59. > :36:05.something really special in Rio. An absolute beauty! We had worked
:36:06. > :36:09.hard as a squad to create our identity.
:36:10. > :36:16.Create history and inspire the future. Kate is a captain and a
:36:17. > :36:19.player is so inspirational to all of us!
:36:20. > :36:21.There is no other word for that girl, absolute legend, we all just
:36:22. > :36:26.want to be her! That is basically it's! We had our
:36:27. > :36:31.backs against the world at times in that tournament. But never brought
:36:32. > :36:36.any sense of fear or doubt. She has got it! Britain in the Olympic
:36:37. > :36:40.final! After about 30 seconds, every player
:36:41. > :36:44.looked at each other and it was one more game, we have got one more game
:36:45. > :36:49.to play! Here we go, Gold medal on the line.
:36:50. > :36:54.The Dutch were out to win their third consecutive Olympic Gold
:36:55. > :36:56.medal. Skilful, fast and is determined. A
:36:57. > :37:01.Gold for the Netherlands, 2-1 in front.
:37:02. > :37:06.The game kept swinging. Krista Curran brings Great Britain
:37:07. > :37:10.level! 3-2. Yes, they are there, embrace them.
:37:11. > :37:14.It is gold. I remember watching the clock and I
:37:15. > :37:19.looked at them and they did not want to be in a penalty shoot out.
:37:20. > :37:26.Hannah Richardson-Walsh scores! You think are pressured moments and Kate
:37:27. > :37:30.has that leadership ability to calm a situation down. We have done this
:37:31. > :37:37.before. She has hit the post! She has missed!
:37:38. > :37:41.This is the golden opportunity. It was just, believe it. Holly Webb on
:37:42. > :37:45.her way. We were clinging on to each other. You could feel people going
:37:46. > :37:56.like this! She turns and she scores! That is
:37:57. > :38:04.the golden goal! It was almost like there was nobody else there! It was
:38:05. > :38:10.just us! It happens, it can happen and it was just amazing.
:38:11. > :38:14.I still get goose bumps just thinking back to that moment, it was
:38:15. > :38:18.so incredible. Kate can hang up a hockey stick and
:38:19. > :38:26.be superb proud of her career, we all going miss her.
:38:27. > :38:29.What a moment, when women's team sport became the ten o'clock News.
:38:30. > :38:31.golden girls and Kate Richardson-Walsh.
:38:32. > :38:57.You have to take centre stage, I know it is all about the team, huge
:38:58. > :39:06.congratulations. You are the first-ever hockey player to make it
:39:07. > :39:10.onto the short list. It is just a tremendous honour. We
:39:11. > :39:14.are so blessed in this country with so many fantastic athletes and we
:39:15. > :39:20.are so good at so many sports. But to be here with these amazing women
:39:21. > :39:24.and from such a big squad of 31 to represent a hockey family and the
:39:25. > :39:30.beyond this stage is a very proud moment. 30 years as captain, 375
:39:31. > :39:37.caps, what will it be like leaving them behind? Easy! No, joking! This
:39:38. > :39:46.squad mean everything to me. I told you not to make me cry! They are
:39:47. > :39:50.just... They are everything, they are my inspiration, my rock. They
:39:51. > :39:54.see me at my best and my worst and they have got me through both. It
:39:55. > :39:59.really is all about the squad for that reason.
:40:00. > :40:02.And of course, at the end of what was an incredible Olympic Games for
:40:03. > :40:09.Team GB, those golden performances, your team-mates from Team GB chose
:40:10. > :40:13.you above everyone else to carry the flag at the closing ceremony. What
:40:14. > :40:25.an accolade! Where does that ranking your achievements?
:40:26. > :40:35.As I said, to see the athletes appear and to be in the building in
:40:36. > :40:38.Team GB and to see the athletes returning with their medals and to
:40:39. > :40:42.watch the Paralympics and to be part of that Olympic movement is very
:40:43. > :40:46.special. To contribute to that with a medal is extra special and to walk
:40:47. > :40:50.out with the flag at the closing ceremony really was the icing on the
:40:51. > :40:57.cake. You are incredible. You are all amazing. Our hockey
:40:58. > :41:00.champions and our 16th and final contender, Kate Richardson-Walsh!
:41:01. > :41:14.What a noise in this arena and what a view from up here. You want to be
:41:15. > :41:18.You've seen and heard from all 16 contenders bidding

:43:12. > :43:14.Tremendous! Yes, so good! Yes!, and! It is gold, Jack Laugher
:43:15. > :43:17.and Chris Mears have done it! What a moment, a first

:43:21. > :43:24.pleasure to introduce a young man who's inspired so many of
:43:25. > :43:27.us to jump into the pool. And a super-woman who's
:43:28. > :43:31.encouraged us to put our Three times winner of the Young
:43:32. > :43:45.Sports Personality of the Year... Please welcome Tom
:43:46. > :43:47.Daley and the 2002 Sports Personality of
:43:48. > :43:49.the Year, Paula Radcliffe. Tom and Paula are here
:43:50. > :44:02.to present our next award, which is named in honour
:44:03. > :44:04.of Helen Rollason, our much-loved BBC colleague
:44:05. > :44:08.who died of cancer in 1999. Helen's name lives on in her
:44:09. > :44:11.charity, with the award reflecting the virtues she showed
:44:12. > :44:16.throughout her life Courage, achievement and the ability
:44:17. > :44:20.to inspire in adversity. This year's recipient
:44:21. > :44:23.personifies all those qualities and is a shining example to us all,
:44:24. > :44:40.with his marathon challenge I had such fun as a child, I was
:44:41. > :44:45.really happy, really confident. That changed when I went away to school.
:44:46. > :44:50.The fact that I did not have the same clothes or the right haircut, I
:44:51. > :44:53.would be called names. That mental side of bullying turned into
:44:54. > :44:59.something physical and I was beaten up sometimes on a daily basis. I did
:45:00. > :45:05.not really start figuring out my sexuality until I was probably about
:45:06. > :45:10.13. I knew I was gay but I was not ready to accept it. After five more
:45:11. > :45:13.years of the bullying, more directed towards the sexuality side of
:45:14. > :45:15.things, that is when it took its toll on me and I tried to take my
:45:16. > :45:24.own life. I had slipped into depression, I did
:45:25. > :45:28.not even know who I was, and that is what made me sit up and think, I
:45:29. > :45:36.can't do this any more, my life needs to change. It was a friend of
:45:37. > :45:42.mine at work who said, come down to my local running club. I run two or
:45:43. > :45:50.three miles. In a way it was like I had won the Olympics. I did not wake
:45:51. > :45:54.up one morning thinking I would run all of those marathons. We wanted to
:45:55. > :45:59.raise a quarter of ?1 million for Anti-Bullying Week show it is. We
:46:00. > :46:07.needed to do something big. We cover 10,506.2 miles. We are on the beach!
:46:08. > :46:20.Amazing! Revisited 101 different schools. Say hello, everyone! We
:46:21. > :46:27.have had 250,000 miles! Bullying is incredibly destructive M people's
:46:28. > :46:32.lives. The e-mail that we get from parents and kids, it seems to be
:46:33. > :46:35.heading home that there is an issue. So many people have been touched by
:46:36. > :46:38.this. That makes us incredibly proud.
:46:39. > :46:42.This year's Helen Rollason Award goes to...
:46:43. > :46:50.A man who responded to bullying by taking on a staggering challenge, he
:46:51. > :46:54.ran more than 10,500 miles in 401 days. Show your appreciation for Ben
:46:55. > :47:30.Smith. What an incredible achievement,
:47:31. > :47:33.thank you to the kings he follows of Birmingham, some of the many people
:47:34. > :47:40.who have been with you along the way, I am sure you would like to say
:47:41. > :47:47.a few words. First of all, thank you... Sorry. I want to say thank
:47:48. > :47:52.you to the tens of thousands of people that came out and supported
:47:53. > :47:57.this. My life was very different four years ago, as you have seen
:47:58. > :48:04.from the tape. But I found running as my sanctuary. I found it is my
:48:05. > :48:09.way of being able to express myself and to be who I was and not have to
:48:10. > :48:14.lie anymore. I did not have any confidence or self-esteem and I was
:48:15. > :48:19.scared about who I was. I got to meet some amazing people, some of
:48:20. > :48:28.which you see here. Some members of my running club are also in the
:48:29. > :48:34.audience as well. Sorry, I lied! Running gave me back my confidence
:48:35. > :48:41.and self-esteem. But most importantly, I am not afraid
:48:42. > :48:44.anymore. Thank you. What an incredible role model and an
:48:45. > :48:59.incredible recipient of the Helen Rollason Award for 2016, Ben Smith.
:49:00. > :49:12.The Ryder Cup, golf is a team sport. Webb puts provoke passion. And the
:49:13. > :49:17.rule escapes from Rory. This is the greatest match I have ever seen. It
:49:18. > :49:21.is surrounded by noise, but comes down to nerve. This time, the cup
:49:22. > :49:26.would not leave American soil. On the tarmac, Jonathan Rea was
:49:27. > :49:32.victorious again. From superbikes to Super League, a warrior prize of
:49:33. > :49:39.four Wigan, Salford saved by a a million. Priceless for Bangladesh, a
:49:40. > :49:45.first Test match victory over England. The Cubs came out of
:49:46. > :49:50.hibernation, it had been 108 years. The Chicago party was crushed by the
:49:51. > :49:53.Irish, the jury at last over the all Blacks. Across the pond, across the
:49:54. > :49:59.codes, Australia the best of four nations. , McGregor powered to a
:50:00. > :50:05.second UFC title of the year. In Abu Dhabi, Hamilton won the battle but
:50:06. > :50:10.Nico Rosberg won the war. We did it! The Formula 1 title and a final
:50:11. > :50:16.spin, he then retired. So much still fed of Charley Hull, when of the

:02:18. > :02:23.Phelps is the greatest. A story of enduring brilliance. But there is
:02:24. > :02:29.brilliance which came at a price. Every time Michael would compete,
:02:30. > :02:32.everyone expected him to go faster. The water began to define him and
:02:33. > :02:36.confine him. All he talked about was not swimming

:03:46. > :03:49.through, to win five more Gold medals, for me, there is no better
:03:50. > :03:55.way to go out. And when he was done, he sheds
:03:56. > :04:03.tears. For a gift retrieved. A love rekindled. A life reborn.
:04:04. > :04:08.I think this entire experience has allowed him to become an absolutely

:07:32. > :07:35.fell in love with the sport and I had the privilege to compete against
