0:10:06 > 0:10:08First out of the block tonight is athletics.

0:10:08 > 0:10:10Five years after the 2012 Olympics and London had the fever

0:10:10 > 0:10:12again.

0:10:12 > 0:10:13Two World Championships which both broke records

0:10:13 > 0:10:15for ticket sales.

0:10:15 > 0:10:16First up was the World Para-Athletics

0:10:16 > 0:10:20Championships.

0:10:25 > 0:10:30Over the next nine days, so many Paralympic heroes are going for gold

0:10:30 > 0:10:35right here. # I won't let you down

0:10:35 > 0:10:39# So please don't give me up...

0:10:45 > 0:10:53Breaks her own world record.Claims the world record.Georgina

0:10:53 > 0:10:59Hermitage, top of the world.Oh, look at that! She's done it... Oh,

0:10:59 > 0:11:06yes!

0:11:07 > 0:11:21It is a second gold for Kinghorn. The third gold medal...

0:11:27 > 0:11:29So many superb performances there at those

0:11:29 > 0:11:30World Para-Athletics Championships where Great Britain won

0:11:30 > 0:11:3439 medals including 18 golds.

0:11:34 > 0:11:35And one of those big gees went

0:11:35 > 0:11:37to our first contender.

0:11:37 > 0:11:43He's the fastest single amputee in

0:11:43 > 0:11:45history, and he looks good on the dancefloor too.

0:11:45 > 0:11:46It's

0:11:46 > 0:11:52sprint king Jonnie Peacock.

0:11:52 > 0:11:59When I was five I lost my leg to meningitis. Kids like to get on with

0:11:59 > 0:12:03it, I guess that was probably my mentality.

0:12:03 > 0:12:08There's a moment just when you get into the blocks where everything

0:12:08 > 0:12:13just goes silent. Everything that you've worked for

0:12:13 > 0:12:19pretty much your whole life is going to unfold in ten seconds. One final

0:12:19 > 0:12:31deep breath and then, bang! I don't noted what -- know what it

0:12:31 > 0:12:36is, but it is that moment you accelerate! 2012 was incredible for

0:12:36 > 0:12:40me. I never thought I would make it there.

0:12:40 > 0:12:47I think that really shocked Paralympics into the limelight.

0:12:47 > 0:12:52Going to Rio was even tougher than London.

0:12:52 > 0:12:54THE COMMENTATOR: Peacock's gold again!

0:12:54 > 0:13:01And to step back on that track, 2012 and re-do it, it was incredible. He

0:13:01 > 0:13:05is an inspiration. The poster boy. He's raised the produce file of the

0:13:05 > 0:13:09sport and shows the world what can be done.He works incredibly hard.

0:13:09 > 0:13:14He has a brilliant sense of humour. He doesn't take himself seriously.

0:13:14 > 0:13:18That's what makes him such a superstar.I just like to have fun.

0:13:18 > 0:13:22I feel like everyone goes through battles in their life and it makes

0:13:22 > 0:13:31you who you are today. I wouldn't change any of it.

0:13:34 > 0:13:39Please give a huge welcome to Jonnie Peacock.

0:13:40 > 0:13:46APPLAUSE

0:13:54 > 0:13:58Your achievements speak for themselves. Multiple world champion.

0:13:58 > 0:14:06Still only 24. What do you put it down to?I think just luck. I think

0:14:06 > 0:14:09we've been blessed with British Athletics. You can see behind you

0:14:09 > 0:14:13the amount of successful athletes we produce. Coaches, you know. I have

0:14:13 > 0:14:17been really lucky to have been handed to amazing coaches who have

0:14:17 > 0:14:23made sure I am in the peak at the right time.Hard work grit and

0:14:23 > 0:14:27determination as well. 12 million people enjoyed watching you on

0:14:27 > 0:14:32Strictly Come Dancing. You were phenomenal. We loved it! And you...

0:14:32 > 0:14:35APPLAUSE You seemed to love it, too. What do

0:14:35 > 0:14:40you think you got from that? Is there anything you take from it as

0:14:40 > 0:14:46an athlete? Was it hard? The training hours were tough. It was

0:14:46 > 0:14:49more mentally exhausting than physical. Everyone was having ice

0:14:49 > 0:14:54baths. My body was fine. I put on weight, I put on quite a bit of

0:14:54 > 0:14:59weight, so that was tricky. That shows another way that Paralympic

0:14:59 > 0:15:04sport has come into the limelight. 2012 and 2017, the biggest and best

0:15:04 > 0:15:08World Championships and been in London, in the UK, and you can see

0:15:08 > 0:15:11athletes behind who have had success. When we saw your film

0:15:11 > 0:15:16there, we saw the little boy who was coming to terms with being an

0:15:16 > 0:15:20amputee in the classroom. Now you show lots of little boys and girls

0:15:20 > 0:15:24what is possible. What does that mean to you?

0:15:29 > 0:15:32They are able to have people to look up to and know that things get

0:15:32 > 0:15:38better. Going through tough times is standard. Able, disabled, everyone

0:15:38 > 0:15:42can take something away from it. We all just have fun and alt-right and

0:15:42 > 0:15:49when fast, throw far, you know.Best of luck tonight. Ladies and

0:15:49 > 0:15:54gentlemen, Jonnie Peacock!APPLAUSE

0:16:05 > 0:16:10Down under, men at work. Well, supermen. Roger overcame Rafa in a

0:16:10 > 0:16:14breathtaking battle of the incredible is. Another title to

0:16:14 > 0:16:18Serena, but now with a baby on board, eight weeks pregnant when she

0:16:18 > 0:16:24beat her soon aunt, Venus. Michael van Gerwen, a popular PDC champion.

0:16:24 > 0:16:29BDO prices to Glen Durrant and Lisa Ashton. At the Ally Pally rocket

0:16:29 > 0:16:34Ronnie is still the master. Also winning indoors, two European golds

0:16:34 > 0:16:40for Laura Muir, one for Andrew Buzza, Richard Kilty and Asha

0:16:40 > 0:16:48Philip. A World Cup slalom silver, gold at Paris to Millie Knight and

0:16:48 > 0:16:54Brett Wild, her guide. After time away, a world skeleton buns of steel

0:16:54 > 0:16:56for Lizzy Yarnold. Sizing John finished strong in the Gold cup with

0:16:56 > 0:17:02full power laptop. The Super Bowl was the Patriots game. A crazy

0:17:02 > 0:17:06comeback led by Brady at quarterback. In the women's six

0:17:06 > 0:17:10Nations it was England's slam and Wigan Warriors became club rugby

0:17:10 > 0:17:14league champions of the world. Hobbling hay was beaten by brittle

0:17:14 > 0:17:20Bellew. Trash talk turned to tenderness. And an unexpected

0:17:20 > 0:17:24knockout in the FA Cup. Normally blink and against Premier League

0:17:24 > 0:17:30Burnley. In the EFL Cup, Manchester United got the nod over Southampton.

0:17:30 > 0:17:35Zlatan, who else?

0:17:37 > 0:17:40He is a decent centre forward, that Zlatan bloke. So is our next

0:17:40 > 0:17:45contender. He's helped his club beat the best in Europe and led from the

0:17:45 > 0:17:48front as his team cruised to World Cup qualification. Harry Kane has a

0:17:48 > 0:17:57golden boot of the highest quality. Don't just take my word for it...

0:17:57 > 0:18:02What you need as a centre forward he has.Just doesn't miss.He's made

0:18:02 > 0:18:06himself one of the best around now. He can't do that golden boot

0:18:06 > 0:18:13glittering.There is no doubt Harry Kane if England's brightest hope.My

0:18:13 > 0:18:17passion for gold has been there since I was a kid. Ran over the park

0:18:17 > 0:18:21with my dad and brother. I suppose it's something I was born with, a

0:18:21 > 0:18:25hunger inside, the feeling of scoring goals never gets old, it's

0:18:25 > 0:18:29one of the best feelings ever. Except for the birth of my baby

0:18:29 > 0:18:34daughter there's not much else that comes close of it to be honest.

0:18:34 > 0:18:39Growing up I always looked at Alan Shearer as a role model.Chirac!

0:18:39 > 0:18:42Yes! -- Shearer.

0:18:44 > 0:18:49I was similar to Harry, you have a love of scoring goals. He hasn't had

0:18:49 > 0:18:53anything on a plate, whatever he has got now he has earned.I've never

0:18:53 > 0:18:59let any excuse my way. There is not a better feeling than when you see

0:18:59 > 0:19:03that ball hit the back of the net. It's what I think about pretty much

0:19:03 > 0:19:08every day of my life.It's an obsession.As a kid growing up you

0:19:08 > 0:19:12dream of playing for England. You never think it's going to come true.

0:19:12 > 0:19:15It's the biggest thing that will ever happen to you in your

0:19:15 > 0:19:20footballing life.Harry Kane is there and England score.To score

0:19:20 > 0:19:24the last minute winner to send us to the World Cup, incredible.Harry

0:19:24 > 0:19:28Kane has capped Alan Shearer's record.He asked me the same

0:19:28 > 0:19:33question in the six or seven years, am I getting nervous, and he has

0:19:33 > 0:19:37carried it on I'll be getting nervous. But for now, OK.Hopefully

0:19:37 > 0:19:41he's feeling pressure now.He knows what he's talking about, that Alan

0:19:41 > 0:19:44Shearer. Harry will be an stage shortly.

0:19:44 > 0:19:47The Ice Queen will be on stage shortly after we dive into

0:19:47 > 0:19:48the pool.

0:19:48 > 0:19:50At the World Aquatics Championships, Tom Daley

0:19:50 > 0:19:52bounced back from the disappointment of Rio to twist,

0:19:52 > 0:19:54tumble and turn his way to a gold medal.

0:19:54 > 0:19:56Ben Proud flew to the 50m butterfly title and

0:19:56 > 0:19:59in a great year for British relay teams, the 4 x 200m

0:19:59 > 0:20:00freestyle team took gold.

0:20:00 > 0:20:03But when it comes to owning the pool, one man dominates his

0:20:03 > 0:20:06discipline.

0:20:06 > 0:20:09With the help of Charles Dance, it's time to

0:20:09 > 0:20:11lionise Adam Peaty.

0:20:17 > 0:20:22A great hunter waits calmly for his time to strike. But the silence

0:20:22 > 0:20:34belies the internal war which drives him. -- 2-1. The badge of the Apex

0:20:34 > 0:20:41Hunter, stained in ink, moulded in gold. The alpha male who can look

0:20:41 > 0:20:46back at beating rivals and think only about how to beat them again.

0:20:46 > 0:21:00And again. But beat them better, beat them faster. Beat time itself.

0:21:00 > 0:21:08A new world record for Adam Peaty, quite an extraordinary swim.Strain

0:21:08 > 0:21:13for hours, weeks, months, years, to gain fractions of seconds.I never

0:21:13 > 0:21:19thought I would live to see the day. The great Hunter strikes suddenly,

0:21:19 > 0:21:24stunningly.He's certainly prowling around at the start.Just when you

0:21:24 > 0:21:29thought it was safe to go back in the water...A clean start in the

0:21:29 > 0:21:33final of the men's hundred metres breaststroke. Adam Peaty has

0:21:33 > 0:21:36destroyed the best in the world, brilliant breaststroke swimming,

0:21:36 > 0:21:40making the rest of the world we set their dreams because their dreams

0:21:40 > 0:21:44are no longer quick enough. Gold on the Hundred, now on 50. He's an

0:21:44 > 0:21:54absolute beast. The Lion King only rests briefly. The hunt is still on.

0:21:59 > 0:22:04Welcome Lion King Adam Peaty and three Lions star striker, Harry

0:22:04 > 0:22:08Kane!

0:22:25 > 0:22:30You haven't brought that lion with you, have you? What a year, 50 goals

0:22:30 > 0:22:33in 50 games in this calendar year. In the territory of Messi and

0:22:33 > 0:22:37Ronaldo. It must make you feel really good. It's something I'm very

0:22:37 > 0:22:43proud of, you know. Messi and Ronaldo have dominated so long, to

0:22:43 > 0:22:46get up there with them has been great. Hopefully something I can

0:22:46 > 0:22:49continue for the years to come as well.Five years ago you were

0:22:49 > 0:22:53sitting on the bench in the championship. What has driven you on

0:22:53 > 0:22:57and made you be as good as you are now?Self belief, hard work, I

0:22:57 > 0:23:05always say that to a young boy or girl growing up, always believe in

0:23:05 > 0:23:07yourself work harder than everyone else, hopefully one day you will

0:23:07 > 0:23:12make it.Two perennially golden boots, World Cup Golden Boot next

0:23:12 > 0:23:17summit in the World Cup. How can England do?Who knows? We have to go

0:23:17 > 0:23:21there with a clear mind, be free, play our football, we have an

0:23:21 > 0:23:26amazing team, racing manager. Easier today. We've just got to go there

0:23:26 > 0:23:30and do our best, it's all we want, the nation behind us. The best thing

0:23:30 > 0:23:34ever would be to win it and bring it home. We'll see what happens. That

0:23:34 > 0:23:37would be great, but even better would be to beat Alan Shearer's

0:23:37 > 0:23:39record because he's insufferable.

0:23:41 > 0:23:45I know when you enter you are scared of water, I didn't know you were so

0:23:45 > 0:23:53brave with Lions. It wasn't, it was CGI...Shush. You are in the pool at

0:23:53 > 0:24:02Copenhagen last night winning another gold medal.ER.Actually,

0:24:02 > 0:24:05not only are you brilliant, you also very generous, because you gave that

0:24:05 > 0:24:13away.These top 12 guys and girls, we can all go out there, inspire

0:24:13 > 0:24:22millions on TV, do what we do.Her face, look at her little face!I

0:24:22 > 0:24:27mean, you know, I think, that performance is in history. For us,

0:24:27 > 0:24:31hopefully, you're very successful in your career, you've got loads of

0:24:31 > 0:24:34golds, for me to give it to her, she'll remember for the rest of her

0:24:34 > 0:24:37life and if she wants to be the best swimmer, best doctor, anything she

0:24:37 > 0:24:41wants to be, she's been inspired and that is what sport is about for me,

0:24:41 > 0:24:46I said that since day one.You also make sure you take your training to

0:24:46 > 0:24:50new levels. You will make an awful lot of even athletes in here feel

0:24:50 > 0:24:54inadequate with the lengths you go to. The strength you have.I think

0:24:54 > 0:25:01so but I think AJ was showing me up, don't know why. Swimming is seen as

0:25:01 > 0:25:05you swim, swim 7000 metres, swim another 7000 in the afternoon, but

0:25:05 > 0:25:09it is a lot of strength work, 35 hours a week of hammering the pool,

0:25:09 > 0:25:15in the gym, it's relentless. If you slip up one day you have given 1% of

0:25:15 > 0:25:18the opposition. We work in very small percentages, you can change

0:25:18 > 0:25:24your career by that amount of time. If you're going to slip up one day,

0:25:24 > 0:25:28it could change your life.Setting an incredible example and he

0:25:28 > 0:25:32continues to set new records. Good luck to both of you tonight. To

0:25:32 > 0:25:42Harry Kane and Adam Peaty! APPLAUSE

0:25:42 > 0:25:45A reminder, please don't try to vote yet, voting only opens later in the

0:25:45 > 0:25:49show once we'd seen all 12 nominees. Many of you voted in your hundreds

0:25:49 > 0:25:53of thousands in 1984 when Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean took

0:25:53 > 0:25:57the main award after their perfect bolero won the Winter Olympics gold.

0:25:57 > 0:26:02It is lovely to have you here tonight. You are very welcome. In

0:26:02 > 0:26:06two months Britain will hope to strike gold again on the eyes, this

0:26:06 > 0:26:09time with a skater who is fast, fearless and fuelled with

0:26:09 > 0:26:13frustration of unfinished business. She is short track speed skating

0:26:13 > 0:26:15sensation Elise Christie.

0:26:18 > 0:26:26When I'm on the ice I'm free. Speed, movement, power. On the edge, never

0:26:26 > 0:26:33fully in control. No one ever can be.Turmoil will stop being

0:26:33 > 0:26:41disqualified in rusher hurt, not as much as the death threats that came

0:26:41 > 0:26:48with it.I've had a lot of abuse over the Internet and stuff. I

0:26:48 > 0:26:53thought about never skating again. It took me two years to get over

0:26:53 > 0:27:06that. It made me tougher than I ever thought I could be. I've thought, I

0:27:06 > 0:27:19can do this. I will do this. I'm not scared.Christy aiming to become the

0:27:19 > 0:27:23first British woman to win a short track world title.I'm ready for the

0:27:23 > 0:27:31spotlight. It's going to be tight. She's done it, she is the world

0:27:31 > 0:27:38champion, Elise Christie! Here comes Christe on the inside, another goal.

0:27:38 > 0:27:46Proving something to the world. One gold, two golds, three. The overall

0:27:46 > 0:27:50title goes to Elise Christie. When something breaks your heart is takes

0:27:50 > 0:27:55a while to love it again but I'm smiling now.

0:27:56 > 0:28:00What a story. She's here tonight, please welcome Elise Christie!

0:28:00 > 0:28:09APPLAUSE

0:28:15 > 0:28:19You are such a lesson in resilience, disqualify from all three races in

0:28:19 > 0:28:23Sochi, bounced back, three golds at the World Championship, how do you

0:28:23 > 0:28:27do it?Yeah it was a really tough few years for me, I think I was

0:28:27 > 0:28:33really scared of just going on the ice. I'd done what I loved doing and

0:28:33 > 0:28:38tries to inspire people and I'd been disqualified three times, suffered

0:28:38 > 0:28:43death threats. It was the scariest time of my life. It was really just,

0:28:43 > 0:28:47you know, I was bullied through school. I remember back then wanting

0:28:47 > 0:28:50to fight against the bullies and show them I was tougher than them

0:28:50 > 0:28:55and show everyone I could do it. And I think, you know, I took three

0:28:55 > 0:29:02years, but I turned it around and feel I showed them all. Coming back

0:29:02 > 0:29:09as triple world champion was crazy. That is indeed how to show them.

0:29:09 > 0:29:13When you look at your sport, it looks so dangerous, so difficult. Do

0:29:13 > 0:29:16you always have to be on the edge, taking the ultimate risk?Yeah, I

0:29:16 > 0:29:23think even in that video I have a little slip. It's a crazy sport.

0:29:23 > 0:29:29Skating rout on that millimetre thick blade at over 35 mph and

0:29:29 > 0:29:33everyday I feel like I'm going to fall, it's so scary and so exciting.

0:29:33 > 0:29:37When you win you have the tactics right, you've got the speed right,

0:29:37 > 0:29:42everything right, you're just in shock, as you seem. It's the best

0:29:42 > 0:29:46feeling in the world, yes.In 53 days you will be out there on the

0:29:46 > 0:29:49eyes in the heartland of short track speed skating in South Korea. We

0:29:49 > 0:29:55wish you the best in the Winter Olympics. I screen Elise Christie.

0:29:55 > 0:29:58-- ice Queen.

0:30:01 > 0:30:05From high speed on the ice to live in the fast lane and superbikes.

0:30:05 > 0:30:09These racing machines are like the ones you see on the road but

0:30:09 > 0:30:12modified to raise about 200 mph fast. The most rapid ride around is

0:30:12 > 0:30:17our next contender. He's from Northern Ireland and this year he

0:30:17 > 0:30:20won a third successive world title. Time to take a ride with Jonathan

0:30:20 > 0:30:24Rea.

0:30:24 > 0:30:32Ever since I first wrote my first bike, riding is my happy place. --

0:30:32 > 0:30:36rode Road. Every win has a special feeling. There is a moment of

0:30:36 > 0:30:42complete euphoria where it is like the world stops for you.He ticks

0:30:42 > 0:30:50every box for me. Consistency, aggression.I've grown up with

0:30:50 > 0:30:55bikes, of course the danger is always there. Going to the gravel is

0:30:55 > 0:31:00like being in a washing machine at 150 mph but I wanted to go out and

0:31:00 > 0:31:08win the next day.No stopping the man from Northern Ireland. One of my

0:31:08 > 0:31:14biggest motivations is winning not just for myself but my two kids.

0:31:14 > 0:31:17Taking the family on the road is great, you can never script what's

0:31:17 > 0:31:22going to happen next.He embraced things. Father and racer. It kicked

0:31:22 > 0:31:28for him and it worked.I feel I'm really living the dream and doing it

0:31:28 > 0:31:34with my family by my side.Jonny Rea takes an historic third title! To

0:31:34 > 0:31:38win one is amazing really. So to win three is incredible, it really is.

0:31:38 > 0:31:41My boys will have these memories for the rest of their life and we'll all

0:31:41 > 0:31:45look back and think what an incredible journey it has been.I

0:31:45 > 0:31:49was a kid with a dream, to race bikes is my job. To sit here and

0:31:49 > 0:31:55tell you about winning three World Championships is... I have no words.

0:32:02 > 0:32:15Watch out in the aisles, but here's Jonnie!

0:32:40 > 0:32:46What an entrance! Come over here, that is an entrance-and-a-half. You

0:32:46 > 0:32:51have not even got a hair out of place.

0:32:54 > 0:33:00You managed to avoid the manager there.I thought they might have

0:33:00 > 0:33:05team managers in insurance companies scratching their heads. This is like

0:33:05 > 0:33:08a trial section. It is very difficult.Parking is expensive

0:33:08 > 0:33:14around here. We will not keep you long! You are an unprecedented

0:33:14 > 0:33:19three-time world champion. What is it that makes you faster than all of

0:33:19 > 0:33:29the rest?It is such a difficult question to hans. -- to answer. My

0:33:29 > 0:33:35team, they give me an incredible bike. All my team sponsors allow me

0:33:35 > 0:33:38to live this incredible dream. My wife and everyone who supports me,

0:33:38 > 0:33:42it is a total package. I go out there and finish the job off. I

0:33:42 > 0:33:46couldn't do it without all that support. We see all your family

0:33:46 > 0:33:50here. You are in a fortunate position to take them with you. When

0:33:50 > 0:33:54you are out there and you take real risks every day, does that cross

0:33:54 > 0:33:57your mind with these beautiful boys back in the hotel or the trailer,

0:33:57 > 0:34:02wherever you are staying?Any sportsman or woman who has kids

0:34:02 > 0:34:06knows how difficult it is to ride at the top level and have a family at

0:34:06 > 0:34:11the same time. I am proud to bring them on this journey. These are the

0:34:11 > 0:34:18best days of my life. To share that with them is nice. Seeing your

0:34:18 > 0:34:22little boys shouting at you afterwards, it creates that,

0:34:22 > 0:34:26heightens that experience. Incredibly lucky.I know that

0:34:26 > 0:34:29everyone in Northern Ireland is watching and supporting you. The

0:34:29 > 0:34:33sport is huge there. We are delighted that you are on the short

0:34:33 > 0:34:46list this year. Ladies and gentlemen, Jonathan Rea.

0:34:50 > 0:34:56On the 90th anniversary of the coverage we had mixed success in the

0:34:56 > 0:35:02doubles, thanks to Murray and Martina Hingis. A new champion in

0:35:02 > 0:35:09Muguruza. Roger Federer won an eighth final. In the closing stages

0:35:09 > 0:35:16of the singles the focus of British fans was on the calm, confident and

0:35:16 > 0:35:18capable Johanna Konta.

0:35:20 > 0:35:24As a little girl I always dreamt of being the best tennis player in the

0:35:24 > 0:35:29world. I would imagine myself at the slams.

0:35:29 > 0:35:34There's a thrill walking through the gates at Wimbledon. It is like a

0:35:34 > 0:35:40magic kingdom. THE COMMENTATOR: Three down, four to

0:35:40 > 0:35:54go.40 years is an awfully long time since I have won.

0:35:54 > 0:35:58THE COMMENTATOR: Johanna Konta... When I went out on court I felt

0:35:58 > 0:36:04nerves and excitement. I felt prepared to battle.

0:36:04 > 0:36:11THE COMMENTATOR: Konta has to come from behind... Somehow Jo Konta has

0:36:11 > 0:36:15forced a final set. Both of us were playing well and we were battling

0:36:15 > 0:36:19really well. THE COMMENTATOR: Konta serving for

0:36:19 > 0:36:23the match. APPLAUSE

0:36:23 > 0:36:27THE COMMENTATOR: British tennis history has been made. 39 years

0:36:27 > 0:36:35since a British woman can say, I'm a Wimbledon semi-finalist.As a young

0:36:35 > 0:36:38girl you dream about these matches. It is hard to dream about what it

0:36:38 > 0:36:45does for you.Konta and Williams on Centre Court.It didn't take me by

0:36:45 > 0:36:49surprise the level she played. I wish she didn't play as well on the

0:36:49 > 0:36:52day! THE COMMENTATOR: What a run Konta

0:36:52 > 0:36:59has had.A proud moment for me. APPLAUSE

0:36:59 > 0:37:05She's not very far from Wimbledon tonight. On the phone Johanna Konta.

0:37:05 > 0:37:11Hi, Jo.Hi.My word! That looks magnificent. Looks like you are

0:37:11 > 0:37:16about to take to the piano and play for us.I know. I was so excited to

0:37:16 > 0:37:19wear this dress tonight.I am so sorry you couldn't in the end make

0:37:19 > 0:37:26it up here. I want to reflect on the year you had. Two WTA tour titles,

0:37:26 > 0:37:30the semi-finals at Wimbledon. What do you think made the big difference

0:37:30 > 0:37:36this year?I mean, I think, as my years have been going and this was

0:37:36 > 0:37:40my second full year on the WTA tour, so I am accumulating all these

0:37:40 > 0:37:45experiences, but I think as time goes, I am dealing the situations a

0:37:45 > 0:37:48little better. Again, I am just gaining that experience as time

0:37:48 > 0:37:52gives you. I have been very fortunate that I have had these

0:37:52 > 0:37:58moments this season where I have been really able to use that and

0:37:58 > 0:38:02have some pretty incredible memories. And the crowds certainly

0:38:02 > 0:38:10embraced you, the TV viewers as well. Your final against Halep, the

0:38:10 > 0:38:13most watched match ever and at Wimbledon this year. Can you feed

0:38:13 > 0:38:20that?100%. During the championships this year I did distance myself a

0:38:20 > 0:38:24certain extent from newspapers and from TV and social media. When I

0:38:24 > 0:38:31stepped out on to court one, on to Centre Court, I felt the emotions

0:38:31 > 0:38:34from the crowd and felt their passion and their want for me to do

0:38:34 > 0:38:38well. As a competitor in any arena you definitely feed off those

0:38:38 > 0:38:41emotions from the people around you. And the season will start again

0:38:41 > 0:38:46shortly. You will head out to Australia. What are your hopes for

0:38:46 > 0:38:512018? . I am leaving tomorrow. I am really looking forward to getting

0:38:51 > 0:38:57started again. I finished my season last year earlier than I wanted. I

0:38:57 > 0:39:02have been afrom the game for which what to me seems like an eternity. I

0:39:02 > 0:39:07am looking forward to being on the big stages and earn my way through

0:39:07 > 0:39:10tournaments to play in those big matches. You are winning more and

0:39:10 > 0:39:17more fans every day. Thank you for talking to us. Ladies and gentlemen,

0:39:17 > 0:39:19Jo Konta.

0:39:20 > 0:39:30APPLAUSE

0:39:36 > 0:39:39Ultimately...

0:39:42 > 0:39:47England in the semifinal. The final whistle has blown on

0:39:47 > 0:39:54England's journey. The hosts are through to the final.

0:39:54 > 0:40:02That's it... Champions of Europe! Well, the future was certainly

0:40:02 > 0:40:06bright for the Netherlands with their first European title.

0:40:06 > 0:40:17Congratulations to them. Our first reward, it is in honour of Helen

0:40:17 > 0:40:23Rollason, who died of cancer in 1999. Her name lives on in her

0:40:23 > 0:40:27charity. Those of courage, achievement and

0:40:27 > 0:40:31the ability to inspire in adversity. This year's recipient showed all

0:40:31 > 0:40:36those qualities and more in a life that shone too briefly. He was a

0:40:36 > 0:40:39beautiful little boy, who like many loved football. He was a beautiful

0:40:39 > 0:40:44little boy, who unlike many had a brutal, cruel illness to live with.

0:40:44 > 0:40:47During his suffering he moved millions and raised millions, thanks

0:40:47 > 0:40:51to his energy, determination and spirit. It is a rare thing to bring

0:40:51 > 0:40:55football fans together, but this little boy from County Durham did

0:40:55 > 0:41:01just that. And he did so with the biggest and brightest of smiles.

0:41:03 > 0:41:09Applause for the boy who has chaptered the entire nation. The

0:41:09 > 0:41:18bravest smile you will ever see. There is only one Bradley Lowery.

0:41:18 > 0:41:23Bradley was diagnosed with stage four neuroblastoma at the age of 18

0:41:23 > 0:41:27months and this is a childhood cancer. For two years he went

0:41:27 > 0:41:31through very cruel and awful chemotherapy, which is obviously

0:41:31 > 0:41:45hard. I

0:41:50 > 0:41:53think people were captored by his story.

0:41:57 > 0:42:02Bradley was born into a family that loves England. I have a photo of

0:42:02 > 0:42:07every year in the Sunderland strip. He loved them and he loved Jermaine.

0:42:07 > 0:42:11Where's Jermaine.I remember sitting in the changing room and hearing

0:42:11 > 0:42:15this little kid calling my name. Then he saw me and he just ran over.

0:42:15 > 0:42:19It was probably that instant connection really.

0:42:19 > 0:42:23That connection was wow! I have never seen a connection like that

0:42:23 > 0:42:28before.It was genuine. The love was genuine. I saw the way he looked at

0:42:28 > 0:42:34me. I knew in his eyes, he was happy.

0:42:34 > 0:42:42To hear your child's name get sung. As a parent, that is the most

0:42:42 > 0:42:46amazing, overwhelming thing that I have ever and will ever experience.

0:42:46 > 0:42:51Guess who is going to the England match next week?Who?Jermaine.I

0:42:51 > 0:42:56wanted to be there for him and see him as much as possible. He came to

0:42:56 > 0:43:01the hospital, came to the house. Did everything in his power to make

0:43:01 > 0:43:05Bradley feel better. He was so loving. Even little things

0:43:05 > 0:43:10he would do. I remember giving him cuddles and stuff like that. When he

0:43:10 > 0:43:14was cuddling me he would pat my back. All these memories,ly never,

0:43:14 > 0:43:24ever forget them.Brad was always brave. He was always full of life.

0:43:24 > 0:43:29And until the last moment. He raised so much awareness for childhood

0:43:29 > 0:43:33cancer.When you talk about a best friend, someone you love and trust,

0:43:33 > 0:43:40yes, it was a real friendship.I was just proud of him as a person and

0:43:40 > 0:43:44how he put others first before himself.

0:43:44 > 0:43:49I was just proud of my baby.

0:43:51 > 0:43:54APPLAUSE

0:43:58 > 0:44:03What a very, very special little boy. England manager Gareth

0:44:03 > 0:44:08Southgate and England striker Harry Kane are here to present the award.

0:44:08 > 0:44:16The Helen Rollason award recipient for 2017 are the Lowery family.

0:44:16 > 0:44:24Please welcome Bradley's dad Carl and mum, Gemma.

0:44:34 > 0:44:40APPLAUSE

0:44:56 > 0:45:01Everyone here in this room, you can hear and see the admiration and

0:45:01 > 0:45:04respect that they have for your family and we are so pleased to

0:45:04 > 0:45:08welcome you here tonight. I know Jermain Defoe would dearly love to

0:45:08 > 0:45:11have been here but he was playing this evening and only left the pitch

0:45:11 > 0:45:15and hour ago, he sent his best wishes. I know, you would like to

0:45:15 > 0:45:20say a few words.I'm slightly overwhelmed but I'm absolutely

0:45:20 > 0:45:24honoured to receive this on behalf of Bradley. Bradley was only here

0:45:24 > 0:45:31for six short years but the nation took him into their heart and he

0:45:31 > 0:45:35raise so much awareness for childhood cancer it was

0:45:35 > 0:45:40unbelievable. I'm so proud of him. To continue that, we've set up the

0:45:43 > 0:45:48done. Not only are we going to be supporting people with fundraising,

0:45:48 > 0:45:52we'll be giving out grants and we have got the for Bradley campaign

0:45:52 > 0:45:55going because we want to build an amazing house for sick children to

0:45:55 > 0:46:01go and be able to enjoy, have some normality, and have some special

0:46:01 > 0:46:03memories, because we've got left now is those special memories. We

0:46:03 > 0:46:07treasure them every single day. We want to be able to get back to the

0:46:07 > 0:46:14people of the nation. -- give back. Thank you so, so much for your

0:46:14 > 0:46:20continued support. Everyone has been fantastic and we couldn't do it

0:46:20 > 0:46:23without you. So please continue to support and together we can make a

0:46:23 > 0:46:32difference.APPLAUSE

0:46:41 > 0:46:44Lovely words, Gemma, thank you so much. Ladies and gentlemen, on

0:46:44 > 0:46:50behalf of Bradley, the 2017 Helen Rollason Award recipient, the Lowery

0:46:50 > 0:46:54family.

0:46:59 > 0:47:04, we celebrate Celtic's unbeaten record run. It's the right note with

0:47:04 > 0:47:08England's young heroes. And look back on a wonderful women's Rugby

0:47:08 > 0:47:10World Cup.

0:47:18 > 0:47:23Tales from the river bank, but conflicting ones. The women's boat

0:47:23 > 0:47:28race colour to Cambridge blue, Oxford shaded to the men's contest.

0:47:28 > 0:47:34The streets of London David Weir's record seventh marathon win, number

0:47:34 > 0:47:3834 Mary, a first for Daniel. From road to track, Elinor Barker won two

0:47:38 > 0:47:43world silvers and a gold. Gold for Katie Archibald. Flipping history

0:47:43 > 0:47:49for Ellie Downey, all around European champion. Another good job

0:47:49 > 0:47:53at the National, one for Arthur, one for Derek Fox, too. Richard Johnson

0:47:53 > 0:48:01still king of the jumps while the Derby was won by wings of Eagles.

0:48:01 > 0:48:05Snicko's thoroughbred world champion Mark Selby back-to-back on the bays.

0:48:05 > 0:48:13-- snooker. Exeter Chiefs became kings of England. Saracens rain goes

0:48:13 > 0:48:19on in union. Ronaldo and company, Real Madrid champions of Europe.

0:48:19 > 0:48:23Champions of the Europa League Mourinho's Manchester United.

0:48:23 > 0:48:29Chelsea guided to the Premier League title. The only bump came at Wembley

0:48:29 > 0:48:34when Arsenal took the cup for an unprecedented 13th time. The women's

0:48:34 > 0:48:38cup was Manchester city's. At Augusta Sergio Garcia ended a career

0:48:38 > 0:48:43of near misses with a magical masters. George Groves is another

0:48:43 > 0:48:48who has had to wait for his crown. A belt for Ryan Burnett, too. At the

0:48:48 > 0:48:51French Open and unlikely women's winner. More predictable where the

0:48:51 > 0:48:57men. Roland Garros is Rafa's manner.

0:48:58 > 0:49:02From the king of clay to royalty on the road, a man who clocks up the

0:49:02 > 0:49:06miles like a machine. This year winning the Tour de France for a

0:49:06 > 0:49:10fourth time and became the first ride in recent history to win the

0:49:10 > 0:49:14brutal Spanish Vuelta in the same season. From the palette onto the

0:49:14 > 0:49:18podium, Chris Froome.

0:49:18 > 0:49:25This is a life on two wheels. Man versus mind versus mountain.

0:49:29 > 0:49:45No ego here. No celebrity. Only body, bike and 5-star brutality. For

0:49:45 > 0:49:50three weeks Matt Paine punctuated by pain, punctuated by punishment,

0:49:50 > 0:49:58stomach churning, Podolski turning. This tour is tough. This guy is

0:49:58 > 0:50:13tougher. King of the counter attack. Master of the mountains.

0:50:13 > 0:50:18Unflappable, untouchable, unbeatable. Taming the pain all the

0:50:18 > 0:50:20way to Paris.

0:50:24 > 0:50:3412, three tours, four. You want more, how about history? How about

0:50:34 > 0:50:40back-to-back grand tour victories? He's the greatest of his generation.

0:50:40 > 0:50:48And the greatest Briton to ever ride a road bike. Because his is the life

0:50:48 > 0:50:56on two wheels. No ego here, no celebrity. History man, family man.

0:50:59 > 0:51:00The voice of Stephen Graham describing those stellar

0:51:00 > 0:51:04achievements. We'll hear from Chris in a moment after we moved to the

0:51:04 > 0:51:08fast and furious Formula 1. The next contender became the most decorated

0:51:08 > 0:51:14British driver in history. In his latest record-breaking season Lewis

0:51:14 > 0:51:17Hamilton was crowned world champion for a fourth time and in doing so

0:51:17 > 0:51:22cemented his place among motor racing's legends. The young boy from

0:51:22 > 0:51:24Stevenage hasn't half done good.

0:51:28 > 0:51:34Recognise me now? And Lewis Hamilton. They say boy racers grow

0:51:34 > 0:51:41out of it. Grow up. A wise up. Slow down. Settle. My ambition is to get

0:51:41 > 0:51:49to Formula 1.Victory in China for Lewis Hamilton.Get in there, Lewis.

0:51:49 > 0:51:55Take your time, know your place. Sebastian Vettel wins the Bahrain

0:51:55 > 0:52:01Grand Prix.Knowing Ferrari are at their best, Sebastian is at their

0:52:01 > 0:52:09best, I'm at my best.What's going on?If he wants to prove he is a

0:52:09 > 0:52:14man, he should do it out of the car face-to-face. Today is a bad day.

0:52:14 > 0:52:22The day they will understand... Let them hear the roar. They don't feel

0:52:22 > 0:52:26the curves of the corners, Dempsey the world as it disappears in your

0:52:26 > 0:52:37mirrors. A life lived in superfast speed, control, in chaos.The

0:52:37 > 0:52:40Ferrari 's collide, Vettel is off, it has paved the way for Lewis

0:52:40 > 0:52:45Hamilton to win the Singapore Grand Prix. Not everybody loses the thrill

0:52:45 > 0:52:57of the chase. Lewis Hamilton is four time Formula 1 world champion. This

0:52:57 > 0:53:01is the boy racer who never slowed down. The most successful British

0:53:01 > 0:53:02Formula 1 driver of all time.

0:53:04 > 0:53:11The voice of Ashley Walters describing who is's rise and

0:53:11 > 0:53:15dominance in F1. Lewis and Chris can't be with us tonight but by the

0:53:15 > 0:53:18magical modern technology we will speak to them live. We'll hear from

0:53:18 > 0:53:23you is in Los Angeles, but first, Chris joins us from Majorca. Thank

0:53:23 > 0:53:28you so much and congratulations on another stunning year. Out of was it

0:53:28 > 0:53:36to Windows two big tours so close together?-- when those. Hi

0:53:36 > 0:53:43everyone. This season has been absolutely brutal of racing. The

0:53:43 > 0:53:49Tour de France is the pinnacle of the cycling calendar and this year's

0:53:49 > 0:53:53event was such a close race between me and my rivals. The closest it has

0:53:53 > 0:53:57ever been for me. I think the hardest fought battle of my career

0:53:57 > 0:54:03to date. Obviously standing on that podium on the Champs Elysees in

0:54:03 > 0:54:09Paris for a fourth time, that is a feeling that just never gets old.

0:54:09 > 0:54:16It's such a special feeling. To go on to the Vuelta, the Tour of Spain,

0:54:16 > 0:54:21just a few weeks later, to win there as well, that was a massive

0:54:21 > 0:54:26challenge for me.We heard news this week about an adverse finding from

0:54:26 > 0:54:30of your you're in samples from the Tour of Spain, over the threshold

0:54:30 > 0:54:33for the asthma medication, what is your take on that and the concern it

0:54:33 > 0:54:40has caused?Listen, I mean, I do completely get it. I understand the

0:54:40 > 0:54:49concerns. I've been a bike rider now for ten years and I know how some

0:54:49 > 0:54:55people might look at our sport. And that's a responsibility that I take

0:54:55 > 0:55:02really seriously. I am an asthmatic, I have been since I was a child. I

0:55:02 > 0:55:06use a buffer to help me manage my asthma. I've never taken more puffs

0:55:06 > 0:55:14than I am allowed. This really is a horrible situation, if I'm honest.

0:55:14 > 0:55:18We're working as hard as we can to try and get down to the of this.

0:55:18 > 0:55:25What happens next for you, Chris? So, we are currently on a training

0:55:25 > 0:55:29camp in Spain at the moment. Looking forward to getting home and being

0:55:29 > 0:55:37with the family next week for Christmas. Before getting stuck into

0:55:37 > 0:55:40training for next year's Giro d'Italia, that'll be my first goal,

0:55:40 > 0:55:46the tour of Italy in May, before focusing on being ready again for

0:55:46 > 0:55:50the biggest challenge of next year, which will be trying to win the Tour

0:55:50 > 0:55:53de France for a fifth time. That would be an absolute dream come true

0:55:53 > 0:55:57for me.Not planning to take it easy any time soon. Thank you for talking

0:55:57 > 0:56:04to us, Chris.Thanks a lot.

0:56:07 > 0:56:11Now we will attempt to move to Los Angeles, eight hour time difference

0:56:11 > 0:56:14of course, so it's fairly early in the morning there. There is Lewis

0:56:14 > 0:56:20Hamilton. Thanks for joining us, Lewis. We saw you as a young go-kart

0:56:20 > 0:56:25driver in our film. Could you possibly envisage at that stage in

0:56:25 > 0:56:31your life what he would later achieve?Definitely not. Good

0:56:31 > 0:56:36evening everyone. No, definitely not. It's been a lifelong dream,

0:56:36 > 0:56:42I've been racing for 25 years. I think it is. This has been something

0:56:42 > 0:56:48that my family and I have dreamt of for many, many years, so it's very,

0:56:48 > 0:56:52very surreal still to think I've been in the sport for ten years,

0:56:52 > 0:56:59nearly 11, and we've now had the fourth title. So just want to keep

0:56:59 > 0:57:03going.Wonderful achievement, four world titles. This one in particular

0:57:03 > 0:57:08was a real battle with Sebastian Vettel in Ferrari. How intense is

0:57:08 > 0:57:15the rivalry? It got bumpy along the way at times. It did, but it's

0:57:15 > 0:57:21definitely been one of the most exciting seasons of my career. I

0:57:21 > 0:57:25think particularly... Over 1500 people in my team. To build those

0:57:25 > 0:57:30two cars and fight against Ferrari, which is obviously an historic,

0:57:30 > 0:57:34successful team... For every single individual in the team to have to

0:57:34 > 0:57:39step up their game to be able to compete with them, including myself

0:57:39 > 0:57:45even, was an incredible challenge for us all. One that we all enjoyed.

0:57:45 > 0:57:48There is still that fire for next year. You are the most successful

0:57:48 > 0:57:54British driver ever of course, with four titles, level with Vettel. How

0:57:54 > 0:58:04many more have you got a new? -- got in it you?I'm turning 33 in a few

0:58:04 > 0:58:07weeks but I differently feel like I have a lot more left in me. I've got

0:58:07 > 0:58:11some incredible support, particularly in the UK and around

0:58:11 > 0:58:18the world. The drive, the excitement and enjoyment I have in the car

0:58:18 > 0:58:22currently is just as much as I had when I was eight years old and when

0:58:22 > 0:58:27I first got to Formula 1. I think I'll keep going for a while and are

0:58:27 > 0:58:31naturally, want to now put my focus in preparing for next year and

0:58:31 > 0:58:34making sure I come back stronger, making sure we're quick out of the

0:58:34 > 0:58:40box from the beginning of the season, unlike this year. Number

0:58:40 > 0:58:44five is now the goal, and the target. We certainly wish you all

0:58:44 > 0:58:48the best, Lewis, please say hello to each and every one of your 1500

0:58:48 > 0:58:52team-mates. A hell of a team you've got there. Lewis Hamilton thank you

0:58:52 > 0:58:56very much indeed, thanks to both of you on another record-breaking year,

0:58:56 > 0:58:59Chris Froome and Lewis Hamilton!

0:59:01 > 0:59:06This is the World Cup final, this is England against New Zealand.

0:59:11 > 0:59:16# The calm before the storm #. One of sport's greatest rivalries.

0:59:22 > 0:59:30England are beginning to express themselves. This final is going back

0:59:30 > 0:59:39and forth the whole time.New Zealand win the World Cup!Total

0:59:39 > 0:59:41devastation for England.

0:59:45 > 0:59:49What a final it was, it lit up Saturday night prime-time TV. 2017

0:59:49 > 0:59:53is a year I think we'll go down in history as the year women's sport

0:59:53 > 0:59:57finally broke through in terms of recognition and reward. Record

0:59:57 > 1:00:01audiences, record attendances and record-breaking performances. The

1:00:01 > 1:00:03wave is building. With girls up and down the country wanting to join in,

1:00:03 > 1:00:07even better things will come and you will find a jumper.

1:00:10 > 1:00:15I hope not. A top women's team is where we turn to next as our ninth

1:00:15 > 1:00:19contender took six wickets in the comeback of all comebacks as

1:00:19 > 1:00:22England's cricketers won an incredible World Cup final. Mission

1:00:22 > 1:00:28impossible until Anya Shrubsole put Lord's under her spell.

1:00:28 > 1:00:34To have that final in front of a packed house at Lord's was a

1:00:34 > 1:00:36brilliant showcase to the tournament. The best part of playing

1:00:36 > 1:00:42is standing there with my team-mates singing the anthem as loud as I can.

1:00:42 > 1:00:47Playing India in the final, they were the team we started and lost

1:00:47 > 1:00:52to.It was great we had a chance to put that first loss right. It was a

1:00:52 > 1:00:57great game for women's cricket.Won the toss and decided to have a bat,

1:00:57 > 1:01:04try and get some runs on the board. It's not constant noise, when

1:01:04 > 1:01:07someone hits, it is like the whole place erupts. We were pleased with

1:01:07 > 1:01:13the total we got. Gave us a good target to bowl at.

1:01:13 > 1:01:17Without a doubt, India were on top for the majority of the innings.I

1:01:17 > 1:01:21thought at times the glam was slipping away from us.

1:01:21 > 1:01:30-- the game was slipping away from us.On track for the target.Felt

1:01:30 > 1:01:35there was a twist to the game. She had her tail up and she had that

1:01:35 > 1:01:40glint in her eye.We got four wickets in three overs.

1:01:40 > 1:01:46THE COMMENTATOR: Listen to the crowd!Come on, one more wicket!You

1:01:46 > 1:01:50almost feel unstoppable at that time.I got goose bumps and said,

1:01:50 > 1:01:56we'll do it here. One more wicket to win the World Cup and that catch

1:01:56 > 1:01:59went up. THE COMMENTATOR: The simplest of

1:01:59 > 1:02:05catches.Anna's reaction was best. She wanted the ball back. She was

1:02:05 > 1:02:10like, right, I'll do it myself. THE COMMENTATOR: England's hero.

1:02:10 > 1:02:16England win the World Cup.Realises we had won the World Cup, that was

1:02:16 > 1:02:20special.That moment it comes through and happens is crazy.

1:02:20 > 1:02:27I was looking around for people to hug. As many people as I could.I

1:02:27 > 1:02:31turned around and Catherine squatted down. She had a tear in her eye.

1:02:31 > 1:02:37Special memories. A special day. I definitely think Anna's spell

1:02:37 > 1:02:42changed that game for us.We will be handing her the ball in all

1:02:42 > 1:02:46situations when we need a wicket. Proud she's on my team.

1:02:46 > 1:02:54What a match! What a win! Please welcome Anya Shrubsole.

1:02:56 > 1:03:01APPLAUSE

1:03:09 > 1:03:14Anya, you don't have to calypso just yet. That will be for later on. What

1:03:14 > 1:03:17everybody wants to know after seeing that and that magnificent match and

1:03:17 > 1:03:21win, when your team needs you, the match is in the balance, they are

1:03:21 > 1:03:25desperate for a wicket, what is going on inside you?You just want

1:03:25 > 1:03:29to be the one to make a difference. I came on for that spell. First

1:03:29 > 1:03:34balls went for four. It is up for everyone really. You want to be the

1:03:34 > 1:03:38one to make a wicket and hope you can start the ball rolling.

1:03:38 > 1:03:42Thankfully that happened.You were calming them down. There was a

1:03:42 > 1:03:46quietness inside you.Needed one more wicket. I was pretty confident

1:03:46 > 1:03:50we would be able to get that. It is obviously a tense moment. You have

1:03:50 > 1:03:54to keep as calm as you can and trust that all the practise you have done

1:03:54 > 1:04:00will come good.As Clare mentioned there it has been a year for women's

1:04:00 > 1:04:04sport. 180 million watched that. Three times as many as the last

1:04:04 > 1:04:08World Cup. We saw that beautiful picture your dad posted of you,

1:04:08 > 1:04:11looking over the boundaries, a little girl at Lord's. What do you

1:04:11 > 1:04:15think she would have thought that day?Hopefully she would have

1:04:15 > 1:04:23thought it was pretty cool. It's a really nice story. He's here on the

1:04:23 > 1:04:28front row tonight. He's pretty happy with that tweet. It is symbolic of

1:04:28 > 1:04:32what we want to create. Hopefully there were young girls or boys

1:04:32 > 1:04:35watching that final at Lord's and they thought, I want to play out

1:04:35 > 1:04:39here. Some people watching that game will play for England in the future.

1:04:39 > 1:04:45You have the best bowling stats of any bowler in a world final omen or

1:04:45 > 1:04:49women, which is just phenomenal. APPLAUSE

1:04:49 > 1:04:53And your team-mates spoke so highly of you, emotionally of you. What did

1:04:53 > 1:04:58it feel like when you were watching that?It always gives you goose

1:04:58 > 1:05:01bumps every time you wacht. I am sure that is the same for all the

1:05:01 > 1:05:06other girls. It was an amazing day to be part of history, to be world

1:05:06 > 1:05:13champions. Doesn't get better than that.It duntz. Best of luck. Ladies

1:05:13 > 1:05:20and gentlemen, Anya Shrubsole. APPLAUSE

1:05:22 > 1:05:30It stood for 100 years. Celtic's 62 games unbeaten.

1:05:30 > 1:05:35The 100 milestones, the 100th major trophy and then that 100-year-old

1:05:35 > 1:05:45record broken. This unbeaten run of today may pale alongside the wonder

1:05:45 > 1:05:50of 67 - the Lions of 50 years ago, still the brightest beacon.The

1:05:50 > 1:05:56invincibles! But to go so long undefeated is

1:05:56 > 1:06:02still to make history. The elongated and the on-going

1:06:02 > 1:06:10process of placing Celtic ahead of and above all others in Scotland.

1:06:10 > 1:06:21Can you believe it - their 69-unbeaten run ended today.

1:06:21 > 1:06:25Trophies galore and thanks to James for the story. Staying the beautiful

1:06:25 > 1:06:28game, England's youngsters showed its international future could be a

1:06:28 > 1:06:34bright one. At under-17, under 19 and under 20 level. They took on the

1:06:34 > 1:06:38best in Europe, the world and won. Three teams, three cups, three

1:06:38 > 1:06:42Lions. The future's invisible, but

1:06:42 > 1:06:46sometimes we get a glimpse of what might be. Reflections in the eyes of

1:06:46 > 1:06:54Lions.But young Lions, born after football came home in 1966. Time for

1:06:54 > 1:06:59one of hope. England's winning over here. What

1:06:59 > 1:07:06you doing over there. It is one of those once in a

1:07:06 > 1:07:13lifetime opportunities for these teenagers...

1:07:19 > 1:07:30# Looking like zebras, looking like an the antelopee for the young

1:07:30 > 1:07:31Lions.

1:07:32 > 1:07:36# From the south side. They don't want to get angry

1:07:36 > 1:07:42# They mustn't beat my team. # Shout the under 19s

1:07:42 > 1:07:47# The European Championship. # Beat the German

1:07:47 > 1:07:52# Holland took shots # World Cup got it locked

1:07:52 > 1:07:57# Overdue # Brewster with the shots

1:07:57 > 1:08:01# Into the madness # Never lost no matches

1:08:01 > 1:08:07# Other teams need practise # Mexico should have mentioned that

1:08:07 > 1:08:12# Couldn't get past our centrebacks # Yeah, so crazy.

1:08:12 > 1:08:21England have won the World Cup! Whoa!

1:08:21 > 1:08:27# Ain't nobody get spared... # The Year of the Youth will soon be

1:08:27 > 1:08:32a memory as golden boys grow to men # Can they conquer the world all

1:08:32 > 1:08:38over again. Thank you. That is my Christmas number one Krept and

1:08:38 > 1:08:52Konan. So, Liverpool big it up for the winning wonder kids.

1:08:53 > 1:09:03APPLAUSE

1:09:13 > 1:09:17Many congratulations to you all. Astonishing efforts from all of you.

1:09:17 > 1:09:23The future is indeed bright. We've got obviously lots of them here. We

1:09:23 > 1:09:31will speak to Rhian Brewster, top scorer, he plays for Liverpool.

1:09:31 > 1:09:36Thought that would get a round of applause. It must be great to be

1:09:36 > 1:09:43part of this golden bun. Do we have a new generation to look forward to?

1:09:43 > 1:09:48Showing that winning under 17s, under 19 and under 20 Cups was good.

1:09:48 > 1:09:54It shows the people coming through, like the teams, we have a golden

1:09:54 > 1:10:00generation coming through and hopefully win many cups to come.

1:10:00 > 1:10:04Premier League managers give these kids a game. That's what we want.

1:10:04 > 1:10:10APPLAUSE Quite right! Describe the emotions

1:10:10 > 1:10:14of actually binning it?After the game, when the final whistle went, I

1:10:14 > 1:10:18didn't know what to do. Looked at the bench, everyone started running

1:10:18 > 1:10:24at us and it was an amazing feeling to win a World Cup. Obviously

1:10:24 > 1:10:29devastating losing in the under 17 European Cup to Spain. So to get

1:10:29 > 1:10:35back and win 5-2 against them, it was an amazing feeling to win 5-2

1:10:35 > 1:10:38and the lads kept their head and we scored five goals in the final. Who

1:10:38 > 1:10:42does that?Wonderful achievement! Who says you cannot win anything

1:10:42 > 1:10:45with kids?

1:10:46 > 1:10:51Nobody would say that. With the boys on stage, let's focus on the Young

1:10:51 > 1:11:02Sports Personality of the Year. The judges were spoilt for choice this

1:11:02 > 1:11:12year. Ellie Downie won many. Of course Rhian Brewster, who we have

1:11:12 > 1:11:17had a chat to there had a World Cup to remember. In the end, after much

1:11:17 > 1:11:21deliberation, the panel made their difficult choice. They did and they

1:11:21 > 1:11:26choose a young footballer, who was voted player of the under-17 World

1:11:26 > 1:11:31Cup, after he scored two goals in that thrilling final. It gives me

1:11:31 > 1:11:40pleasure to announce the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year

1:11:40 > 1:11:44personality is Phil Foden. That is for you.

1:11:44 > 1:11:49APPLAUSE

1:11:51 > 1:11:54Phil, you were voted player of the tournament. Tell us what it meant to

1:11:54 > 1:11:58you?It meant everything to me. I would like to thank my team-mates

1:11:58 > 1:12:02because without them it couldn't have been possible, really.And

1:12:02 > 1:12:06also, since then, you have made your Champions League debut for

1:12:06 > 1:12:12Manchester City. Yesterday a Premier League debut, coming on as a

1:12:12 > 1:12:16substitute - it must be fun?I feel very lucky to be part of a great

1:12:16 > 1:12:21team. I would like to thank all the players, all the staff and my mum

1:12:21 > 1:12:27and dad for making this possible. Well done Phil. Please show your

1:12:27 > 1:12:34appreciation for England's future football stars and young personal

1:12:34 > 1:12:41sport Sports Personality of the Year, Phil Foden.

1:12:41 > 1:12:43APPLAUSE

1:12:45 > 1:12:49Look beyond Andy Murray at Wimbledon and you could find defending

1:12:49 > 1:12:58champions. Two here, hue wit and Reid. And here's another.

1:12:58 > 1:13:04Hewetson and Reid repeated -- Hewitt and Reid repeated it.

1:13:04 > 1:13:09There was a third for Ra if, a. And an American surprise in Sloan

1:13:09 > 1:13:19Stephens. No secret about Speith. The women's Open went to Kim and the

1:13:19 > 1:13:26US PGA to Justin Thomas. Staying in the States, a statement, in the NFL

1:13:26 > 1:13:30some took a knee, America took a view. In the County Championship,

1:13:30 > 1:13:37the only way was Essex. The Less fizz in the water, still

1:13:37 > 1:13:43there was one British pararowing gold. Smaller boats, bigger success.

1:13:43 > 1:13:48A titdle to Liam Heath. In the women's there was a Grand

1:13:48 > 1:13:55Slam. And Franklin was the most rapid through the rapids. British

1:13:55 > 1:13:58gold at the European eventing championships. Six more in the

1:13:58 > 1:14:05dressage. A first for Dave Ellis and Andy Lewis held on to his world

1:14:05 > 1:14:18title. A success defence for Hull FC in the challenge Cup. Their fifth.

1:14:18 > 1:14:24Next year the Power finally goes off.What a player he's been.

1:14:24 > 1:14:30The Power was turned back on again at the London Stadium for world

1:14:30 > 1:14:36champs number two. Here we go then... London's calling.

1:14:40 > 1:14:46Silver medal for Great Britain! He has stood like a colossus over this

1:14:46 > 1:14:55sport for so long.The men's four by 100 m relay.Great start, Great

1:14:55 > 1:15:00Britain leading. Adam Gemili... Silver for Great Britain and

1:15:00 > 1:15:05Northern Ireland.It

1:15:14 > 1:15:20Britain in front. He'll be chased by the great man.Mitchell break is

1:15:20 > 1:15:29going to get it. Way he goes. -- Blake.Mitchell Blake... It's going

1:15:29 > 1:15:46to be gold! That was phenomenal. Usain Bolt, sadly, ends for him in

1:15:46 > 1:15:54his team. Great Britain have won the gold medal. Those dramatic world

1:15:54 > 1:15:59athletic Championships. They were spectacular. Usain Bolt and the

1:15:59 > 1:16:05broken unbeaten while the British boys bolted up. Not only was that

1:16:05 > 1:16:08the last time we would see the fastest man of all-time race, it

1:16:08 > 1:16:11would be the last time we saw the greatest British athlete of all time

1:16:11 > 1:16:15went on the track in a major championships. How we will miss the

1:16:15 > 1:16:27magnificent Mo Farah.Mo Farah fights for the silver.The greatest

1:16:27 > 1:16:39champions, one day it comes to an end.Go on, good lad. What is your

1:16:39 > 1:16:48name?Mohammed Cobra. -- Mohammed Farah.

1:17:26 > 1:17:30I've had a marvellous career, having a dream and following that dream

1:17:30 > 1:17:33hasn't been easy but it has been worth it and I've enjoyed every

1:17:33 > 1:17:41minute of it.In front of his home crowd in the city you know so well,

1:17:41 > 1:17:44the city that he loves.

1:17:48 > 1:17:53The British best with the heart pounding beneath it. A one-man world

1:17:53 > 1:18:02superpower.APPLAUSE What an athlete, what memories we

1:18:02 > 1:18:06have. Mo can't be here but he can join us from St Mary's University in

1:18:06 > 1:18:10London where a track has been named in his honour. Good evening to you

1:18:10 > 1:18:16two and Hussein and Rhiannon. You are now because of your incredible

1:18:16 > 1:18:21achievements... Here we go... Because of your incredible

1:18:21 > 1:18:24achievements up there in those echelons with the likes of Carl

1:18:24 > 1:18:29Lewis, Usain Bolt, Michael Johnson, in terms of the golds you have won

1:18:29 > 1:18:33on the global stage, you've left no stone unturned and obviously can

1:18:33 > 1:18:39have no regrets with that career. LAUGHTER

1:18:39 > 1:18:48Did you get any of that?Know I didn't, sorry.Daddy!You've been

1:18:48 > 1:18:50blinking marvellous, we absolutely love you and salute everything

1:18:50 > 1:18:54you've done in your career. It's clear to see the legacy of what you

1:18:54 > 1:18:58have in your life, your wonderful family. You are at the Sir Mo Farah

1:18:58 > 1:19:01track, to have the track you started off with named after you is a

1:19:01 > 1:19:07wonderful thing.It's amazing, everything I ever dream Delph. I was

1:19:07 > 1:19:13one of the few at the St Mary's college here, I never imagined it

1:19:13 > 1:19:17would be named after me, let alone, you know, what happened to me over

1:19:17 > 1:19:21the years, it's been an incredible career.I think a sale is getting

1:19:21 > 1:19:25more airtime than you at the moment, he is near your Mike, if Rhianna can

1:19:25 > 1:19:30hold him I will ask you one quick question. Thank you very much.

1:19:30 > 1:19:35Baby-sitting money coming to you later on. A lot of people would

1:19:35 > 1:19:42think, you are heading for a easier life. Bye bye! LAUGHTER

1:19:42 > 1:19:47APPLAUSE I love Rhianna by the way, I've

1:19:47 > 1:19:51always loved Rhianna, thank you for that. I love Hussein as well,

1:19:51 > 1:19:54obviously. We want to talk to you about your achievements. Turning

1:19:54 > 1:19:58your attention to the road, the marathon, some people might think it

1:19:58 > 1:20:01is heading into retirement. You will run more miles than you ever have,

1:20:01 > 1:20:10this is not an easy ask, is it?Not easy at all, you know. At the track,

1:20:10 > 1:20:14going to the marathon, it's going to be quite easy, get into it. But

1:20:14 > 1:20:19since finishing track, it's been sort of trying to get my body used

1:20:19 > 1:20:23to doing longer distance, cover more distance, training longer effort.

1:20:23 > 1:20:29It's all right, going all right. I'm enjoying it but, you know, it's no

1:20:29 > 1:20:33walk in the park which I thought originally... I am just a track

1:20:33 > 1:20:38runner, I get on the road...Bethink your microphone might have dropped

1:20:38 > 1:20:49down, there it is... This interview has everything! Mo all I want to say

1:20:49 > 1:20:52to you is best of luck tonight, with your career on the road, and thank

1:20:52 > 1:20:58you so much for the incredible moments you have given all of us.

1:20:58 > 1:21:02Thank you everyone am sorry I can't be there tonight, I want to wish all

1:21:02 > 1:21:06the nominees best of luck and, you know, what an amazing year we had,

1:21:06 > 1:21:12particularly the world under 19. Everyone has been amazing.Mo thank

1:21:12 > 1:21:15you so much, ladies and gentlemen, Sir Mo Farah, a legend, Golden boy

1:21:15 > 1:21:18of British athletics.

1:21:21 > 1:21:26The best interview ever! Let's meet our next short listed athlete, from

1:21:26 > 1:21:31Liverpool, who is taking tae kwon do to new levels. In 2017 she was

1:21:31 > 1:21:34crowned world champion for a second time and became the first athlete to

1:21:34 > 1:21:38win all four Grand Prix titles in a calendar year. They call her Queen B

1:21:38 > 1:21:45but in these parts Bianca Walkden is known as our Bianca.

1:21:47 > 1:21:54What you need to know about Our Bianca Bianca. She is a fighter.

1:21:54 > 1:22:00Plagued by injury and with two knees patched up with eight pins, she

1:22:00 > 1:22:07battled for bronze in Rio last year. Look at that, cracking shot.Bianca

1:22:07 > 1:22:12Walkden, Olympic Games bronze medallist.Made of tough stuff, as

1:22:12 > 1:22:19Scousers. But strength of body is not enough. You need strength of

1:22:19 > 1:22:27mind to be a fighter. Two years ago her grandad passed away on the day

1:22:27 > 1:22:32of the World Championship final. When the world kicked her, she

1:22:32 > 1:22:35kicked back. Harder.

1:22:45 > 1:22:50This summer, Our Bianca set out to defend her title.Six minutes to

1:22:50 > 1:22:56decide who will be world champion. Poised, composed in control.

1:22:56 > 1:23:02Untouchable all day, unstoppable. World-class!Sometimes we win for

1:23:02 > 1:23:06ourselves. Sometimes we win for others. There is something greater

1:23:06 > 1:23:14than gold that drives us. Yet again, Queen B would not be defeated. I

1:23:14 > 1:23:19guess you can never keep a good Scouser down. Two time world

1:23:19 > 1:23:23champion, British tae kwon do history. That's all you need to know

1:23:23 > 1:23:32when it comes to Our Bianca. APPLAUSE

1:23:32 > 1:23:35We'll meet Bianca shortly after we've turned our attention to

1:23:35 > 1:23:39boxing. In August 11 time world champion Floyd made whether the

1:23:39 > 1:23:45ultimate fighter, McGregor in a fight that packed punch but had a

1:23:45 > 1:23:51fistful of dollars. -- Floyd Mayweather. In front of 90,000

1:23:51 > 1:23:56people at Wembley a modest young man faced a wily old warrior for the

1:23:56 > 1:23:59heavyweight championship of the world. And when the bell went it

1:23:59 > 1:24:03would prove to be a knockout night for our final contender. Anthony

1:24:03 > 1:24:04Joshua.

1:24:07 > 1:24:11Anthony Joshua on the floor for the first time in his career. Wladimir

1:24:11 > 1:24:15Klitschko moving in for the finish. For a split-second you don't know

1:24:15 > 1:24:18what's happened. A lot of things running through your head. I thought

1:24:18 > 1:24:22myself, I've done well to get here but this isn't where it ends. I

1:24:22 > 1:24:28never came in this gym to be a boxer, I was still bricklaying,

1:24:28 > 1:24:32still working. Still had to find ways to make ends meet. Seeing the

1:24:32 > 1:24:38different sides of the table. Both I can look at in a positive light.I'd

1:24:38 > 1:24:41like to officially announce Anthony Joshua against Wladimir Klitschko.

1:24:41 > 1:24:45It starts in a little gym around Finchley. And we've taken it to the

1:24:45 > 1:24:52world. It was a barnstormer for sure.

1:24:55 > 1:25:03Rising to his feet like a terminator!Anthony Joshua down!

1:25:03 > 1:25:08Seven, aged... I realise this is a fight I was never willing to lose.

1:25:08 > 1:25:13As he threw the right hand that was coming to my head, I went under,

1:25:13 > 1:25:17left hook, followed with the uppercut. What an uppercut from

1:25:17 > 1:25:21Anthony Joshua, my goodness, rudd Amir Klitschko shaken. That was the

1:25:21 > 1:25:29beginning of the end for Wladimir Klitschko.Timber! When this shows

1:25:29 > 1:25:34up, there is a beast in me. I'm never going to give up. On this

1:25:34 > 1:25:40show, wherever I get to now... Is much better than where I started in

1:25:40 > 1:25:49the first place.Champion of the world!Ladies and gentlemen, let's

1:25:49 > 1:25:54get ready to rumble... With heavyweights Bianca Walkden and

1:25:54 > 1:25:56Anthony Joshua!

1:26:13 > 1:26:18What a welcome for both of you. Bianca, your home crowd, walking out

1:26:18 > 1:26:22with AJ, Sue Johnstone having done the voice-over for your film, pretty

1:26:22 > 1:26:27good isn't it?I can't ask for much more could I, really?You had a

1:26:27 > 1:26:30phenomenal year, four Grand Prix titles and nobody has done that and

1:26:30 > 1:26:34win the World Championship, what makes you unbeatable?I think it's

1:26:34 > 1:26:39just that I never give up and I've got like a motto. I always want to

1:26:39 > 1:26:42go out there and I always say to myself, no matter what happens, I'll

1:26:42 > 1:26:48die trying. My dad always texts me before I go in the ring saying, no

1:26:48 > 1:26:54mercy. I've literally got to give them get as much as I can I have no

1:26:54 > 1:26:57choice to go out there and try to kick someone in the face and knock

1:26:57 > 1:27:02them out.She puts it so well. You had terrible, terrible trouble with

1:27:02 > 1:27:09injuries. You missed London 2012, does it mean even more to you now

1:27:09 > 1:27:13because of what you've been through? I think if I didn't go through all

1:27:13 > 1:27:18of that, like, it wouldn't make me who I am today. I wouldn't go out

1:27:18 > 1:27:22there die trying because everything I've been through has been so hard.

1:27:22 > 1:27:25I just want to, like, remember what I've been through, to remember to go

1:27:25 > 1:27:29into the ring, so when I do go out there I give absolutely everything

1:27:29 > 1:27:33I've got my blood, sweat and tears. I think that is what has made me who

1:27:33 > 1:27:38I am. Because I am a Scouser, it is deep down inside me, so I've got to

1:27:38 > 1:27:42fight for the win.You are doing that tonight. We wouldn't encourage

1:27:42 > 1:27:46people to go out and kick each other in the head. You do it so well.

1:27:46 > 1:27:49Please vote for me, yeah?

1:27:51 > 1:27:55Anthony, what year it has been for you, that fight with Klitschko was

1:27:55 > 1:28:00so special, a rocky fight.It was tough, tougher than I expected. All

1:28:00 > 1:28:04credit to him. Without him we wouldn't be able to put on a good

1:28:04 > 1:28:07fight. Credit to the promoters and manager and so forth, because the

1:28:07 > 1:28:12stage was set and it's just, are we going to deliver in terms of the

1:28:12 > 1:28:17silo fight? We both came together and it gelled well.Boxing is

1:28:17 > 1:28:21notorious for trash talking. But that isn't really your style. You've

1:28:21 > 1:28:26shown you don't have to do that to win a scrap.Life is about how you

1:28:26 > 1:28:33interpret things, so when I first started boxing my interpretation was

1:28:33 > 1:28:38about Mike Tyson, the gutter side, then I realised the discipline, the

1:28:38 > 1:28:41regiment, the likes of Wladimir Klitschko and how they conduct

1:28:41 > 1:28:46themselves. I tried to change the angle. It's good for the sport,

1:28:46 > 1:28:49isn't it?There are kids watching and so on so I get that side of

1:28:49 > 1:28:54things. It's like what you were saying, you need that gut which you

1:28:54 > 1:28:57show in the fight. Outside of that I have calmness and respect. It's

1:28:57 > 1:29:03tough when somebody keeps poking you, how do you keep a live on that?

1:29:03 > 1:29:11-- lid on that.Everybody wants to know who is next. Tony Bellew? He's

1:29:11 > 1:29:17shaking his head, Tony Bellew, don't fancy that one?Tony's my guy, I

1:29:17 > 1:29:22support him through whatever, thick and thin.Who's going to be?Me, I

1:29:22 > 1:29:26think definitely we have to get our hands on another championship belt,

1:29:26 > 1:29:30so there are five championship belts, we've got three of them. Next

1:29:30 > 1:29:33year... It's crazy because so soon we have the possibility of capturing

1:29:33 > 1:29:37the other two. First and foremost, that is the long-term plan. Let's

1:29:37 > 1:29:41look at the short term. Jessica Parker has been very realistic in

1:29:41 > 1:29:46terms of when he's going to fight an internal negotiations. A fight that

1:29:46 > 1:29:49can potentially happen in March or April.Hopefully that will take

1:29:49 > 1:29:56place. Good luck with that and good luck tonight. Good luck to Bianca

1:29:56 > 1:30:00Walkden. Anthony Joshua ladies and gentlemen! APPLAUSE

1:31:56 > 1:32:00So, don't delay.

1:32:03 > 1:32:13To come, we review an action--packed year in rugby union. Head downunder

1:32:13 > 1:32:24for the World Cup and the cricketing year with a dear old friend. The

1:32:24 > 1:32:28road to Russia was an easy journey. At this stage it is helpful if it is

1:32:28 > 1:32:34uneventful. What ifs and what nows for Scotland and Wales - World Cups

1:32:34 > 1:32:38over before they began. Play-off plain for the republic and Northern

1:32:38 > 1:32:41Ireland, condemned by a handball that wasn't. It hurts more when it's

1:32:41 > 1:32:46not fair. Netherlands and Italy also missed out. Frustration for England

1:32:46 > 1:32:50in the women's Ashes, too. A decent draw, not enough to return the urn.

1:32:50 > 1:32:59The grand final jungle is still the perfect happen at the for Rhinos.

1:32:59 > 1:33:07Sousa was champion jockey. More horsepower from superbikes - two in

1:33:07 > 1:33:17a row. Tommy Fleetwood the best on Europe's urp tour.

1:33:17 > 1:33:27Dimitrov delivered on his promise. O'Sullivan's sixth title.

1:33:27 > 1:33:42Artistic gym tick mag nick. -- artistic gymnastics. From boxing,

1:33:42 > 1:33:47Katie Taylor fought to the top of the world. A perfect three for the

1:33:47 > 1:33:52Irish. Wales saw off South Africa by two points. Scotland smashed

1:33:52 > 1:33:55Australia by 29. Something is stirring in the north.

1:33:58 > 1:34:01Thanks to Patrick Geary for all those rave reviews this evening.

1:34:01 > 1:34:06Scotland ended the year impressively and it is lovely to have one of

1:34:06 > 1:34:15their greats and a Lions legend with us tonight, Doddie Weir is battling

1:34:15 > 1:34:19motor neurone disease. It is fantastic how you are raising

1:34:19 > 1:34:24awareness of this illness. You are an example. Thank you for coming.

1:34:24 > 1:34:312017 has been a busy one for the 15-aside code. In the company of

1:34:31 > 1:34:38Eddie Butler, let's review the two biggies, the Six Nations and that

1:34:38 > 1:34:42memorable Lions' tour of New Zealand.The Six Nations of 2017 -

1:34:42 > 1:34:49the team to beat, England. Too strong for everyone again.

1:34:49 > 1:34:53Unbeaten under coach Ed di Jones, straining to reach new heights.

1:34:53 > 1:34:57Questions about Italy's place in all of this.

1:34:57 > 1:35:03Elsewhere, to play well enough to become a Lion. The tour to New

1:35:03 > 1:35:06Zealand. Scotland beat Ireland to put

1:35:06 > 1:35:10themselves in the frame. Only to come unstuck against

1:35:10 > 1:35:15England. Wales beat Ireland, having come

1:35:15 > 1:35:20unstuck against England. England had the title won, with a

1:35:20 > 1:35:24round to go. But they then came unstuck against

1:35:24 > 1:35:33Ireland. No Grand Slam - a first defeet under Eddie Jones.

1:35:33 > 1:35:38Those that had feuded in the Six Nations now become blood brothers as

1:35:38 > 1:35:43Lions in New Zealand - the toughest tour of them all, only once had the

1:35:43 > 1:35:48Lions ever won here.

1:35:50 > 1:36:04The Kiwi media turned

1:36:06 > 1:36:12If it wasn't tough enough already, it was a whole lot tougher now.

1:36:12 > 1:36:18The second test in Wellington - who was feeling the strain now? Williams

1:36:18 > 1:36:27sent off. Patience required. Patience rewarded. All square.

1:36:27 > 1:36:40Back to Auckland for the decider. A strain of nerve.

1:36:40 > 1:36:47A drawn decider. A drawn series, but not an anti- climax. More a dead

1:36:47 > 1:36:53heat. Two mighty teams, inseparable on the

1:36:53 > 1:36:55finish line.

1:36:56 > 1:37:01APPLAUSE Certainly a memorable tour. Before

1:38:12 > 1:38:18July, athletes from 97 countries gathered in Turkey for the summer

1:38:25 > 1:38:29national games, that was an event to remember. In September, the third

1:38:29 > 1:38:37Invictus Games were held in Toronto, as Prince Harry pointed out they

1:38:37 > 1:38:40encapsulate sport to provide pride and can change the lives not only of

1:45:23 > 1:45:28When people achieve things that they didn't think was possible, it makes

1:47:43 > 1:47:55Inspired Unsung Hero, Dennis Larrad. -- Denise Larrad.

1:48:31 > 1:48:35Bitter Rugby league. The 15th World Cup was held across Australia, New

1:48:35 > 1:48:40Zealand and Papua New Guinea this autumn. 14 nations took part over

1:48:40 > 1:48:44five weeks and in the end it came down to the finest margins and a

1:48:44 > 1:48:48deja vu moment in a final between those best of enemies, Australia and

1:48:48 > 1:48:51England.

1:48:52 > 1:48:55Tonight we start with a rugby league try that will surely go down amongst

1:48:55 > 1:49:00the greatest of the decade.Is anybody going to catch? I don't

1:49:00 > 1:49:05think anybody is going to catch him. Everybody saying go, go, go. He for

1:49:05 > 1:49:11the try.Life is a game of moments, and so is rugby league. This was a

1:49:11 > 1:49:18World Cup of sparkle and squander. An Irish good bye bye fingertip. The

1:49:18 > 1:49:26Pacific powerhouses declared a New World order. Happy for this moment.

1:49:26 > 1:49:35This is extraordinary.This moment meant the world.Fiji are into the

1:49:35 > 1:49:42semifinals.England battled, strange, until in the Tongan

1:49:42 > 1:49:48cauldron, they met fire with ice. Their onslaught in the final

1:49:48 > 1:49:53moments, what might have been if not for a fingertip. He's lost it!

1:49:53 > 1:50:01England have won.England hope for glory, Australia expect.To win a

1:50:01 > 1:50:06World Cup you must make moments happen, you must take your chance,

1:50:06 > 1:50:15and when a ghost from the past revisits the... A fingertip.

1:50:15 > 1:50:19Australia's protector by a fingernail.Those England players

1:50:19 > 1:50:24sick to their knees in utter desperation.Agony again for

1:50:24 > 1:50:31England. Sony but so far away, thanks to Jodie Whittaker, the new

1:50:31 > 1:50:37Doctor Who for that review. And well done to the guys out there. It was

1:50:37 > 1:50:42the Australian women, the Jillaroos, who triumphed. This is your last

1:50:42 > 1:50:46chance to vote, if you haven't done it, do it now, don't be the person

1:50:46 > 1:50:52who says, my favourite didn't win because I forgot to vote. The list

1:50:52 > 1:50:57of winners, as you would expect, for lifetime achievement, are megastars

1:50:57 > 1:51:01and this year's recipient is no exception. As the legend himself,

1:51:01 > 1:51:09Michael Johnson, tells us.

1:51:17 > 1:51:21When you start off in sport, you never know where it could take you.

1:51:21 > 1:51:27For many, it doesn't take them far. For a few, it takes them to the very

1:51:27 > 1:51:34top. The zenith. I was lucky, I had God-given talent and I applied

1:51:34 > 1:51:40myself and reached that peak. In 1996, at my home Olympics, I became

1:51:40 > 1:51:47the focus from the one expected to win. The one who had to win. So I

1:51:47 > 1:51:56ran fast and I won. Pressure, it's only a word. But you have to deal

1:51:56 > 1:52:03with it. At the 2012 London Olympics the same pressure I experienced in

1:52:03 > 1:52:091996 was put on one particular athlete, and so she ran, she jumped

1:52:09 > 1:52:19and she threw. And she won. And her smile, her golden smile, lit up the

1:52:19 > 1:52:25whole world. As I say, when you start off in sport you just never

1:52:25 > 1:52:33know where it can take you. Around 20 years ago the city built on seven

1:52:33 > 1:52:37hills, one girl tentatively started her climb. If some youngster from

1:52:37 > 1:52:43Sheffield can achieve what she is achieved, I think anybody can.She

1:52:43 > 1:52:49was only about nine, ten, something came up Don Valley for kids to get

1:52:49 > 1:52:53involved in sport. She won. I think it was a pair of trainers she won,

1:52:53 > 1:52:56you could see she got a taste for it.When we first started going out

1:52:56 > 1:53:00I used to get text messages from my mum going Jess is on the back of the

1:53:00 > 1:53:03Sheffield Star, she's won something, I was like, didn't know she was

1:53:03 > 1:53:09competing.Quietly, confidently, a steely start was being forged.

1:53:09 > 1:53:13Bronze for young Jessica Ennis-Hill is the we couldn't imagine her

1:53:13 > 1:53:19winning anything bigger than that at that point.Roll on 2012.Still she

1:53:19 > 1:53:24continued upwards. Before long she was champion of the world. A winning

1:53:24 > 1:53:29smile, no heirs, no graces, one of us.Your typical girl next door. She

1:53:29 > 1:53:34didn't change in any way.Cheated out of a second title, her climb

1:53:34 > 1:53:39continued. Jess's focus soon turn to the London Olympics, could she

1:53:39 > 1:53:43handle the pressure? She was the only person on the British team

1:53:43 > 1:53:46where a silver medal would have been a loss. You are the face of the

1:53:46 > 1:53:51games, you have to deliver. The biggest year of all will be reserved

1:53:51 > 1:53:56for this lady... -- biggest cheer. Everybody shouting your daughter's

1:53:56 > 1:54:00main permits and goose bumps all the way down me.The girl next door on

1:54:00 > 1:54:05the verge of an Olympic gold. We all know where we were on super Saturday

1:54:05 > 1:54:10everybody on their feet. The pride of Great Britain... Jessica

1:54:10 > 1:54:16Ennis-Hill is the Olympic champion. Everyone who supported me... I want

1:54:16 > 1:54:23to thank everyone here, my family and... I can't believe this.If you

1:54:23 > 1:54:27watch it as a film, the credits, you would leave the cinema, that's it,

1:54:27 > 1:54:32but for her life goes on.She wanted to do what nobody had ever done

1:54:32 > 1:54:37before, return to the heptathlon after giving birth. And win gold.

1:54:37 > 1:54:41The hardest part was making her athletics workaround Reggie, she's

1:54:41 > 1:54:47like, why don't I retire? If she was going to go for Reggie, she wanted

1:54:47 > 1:54:52to win.Jessica Ennis-Hill back on top of the world.An Olympic silver

1:54:52 > 1:54:55medal followed. With past injustices finally put right and a baby

1:54:55 > 1:55:01daughter welcomed to the world, her climb was finally complete. She is

1:55:01 > 1:55:04the best British female track and field athlete Britain has ever

1:55:04 > 1:55:08produced.I'm proud to know young girls look up to her. If she can do

1:55:08 > 1:55:12it, other people can have those aspirations.I'm so incredibly proud

1:55:12 > 1:55:25of Jess. You know...When she won, we won with her. She is our Dame

1:55:25 > 1:55:35Jessica Ennis-Hill. APPLAUSE Dame Julie Walters describing the

1:55:35 > 1:55:40wonderful story of our 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award winner, Dame

1:55:40 > 1:55:43Jessica Ennis-Hill...

1:55:51 > 1:55:58# They didn't even put up a fight # Didn't even put up a shout

1:55:58 > 1:56:17# Don't know how to let you in # Got my angel now

1:57:51 > 1:57:55I'm sure you'd like to say a few words, if you want to pop that over

1:57:55 > 1:58:02there, Jess, thank you so much, Dame Mary.Oh my gosh I'm completely

1:58:02 > 1:58:05overwhelmed, to be steadier firstly with these amazing women if inspired

1:58:05 > 1:58:10me through my career. And just in this room full of so many legends,

1:58:10 > 1:58:16it's unbelievable. When I first stepped onto the track, it was by

1:58:16 > 1:58:20chance, really, my parents took me down to just burn off some energy

1:58:20 > 1:58:25and my mum joked about it being cheap childcare. And from that point

1:58:25 > 1:58:31on I just fell in love with the sport. I could never imagine I would

1:58:31 > 1:58:35have the years I've had, the career I'd had. More than anything, I just

1:58:35 > 1:58:39feel incredibly proud of the career I've had and really fortunate to

1:58:39 > 1:58:45have had an amazing team around me. I coach, Toni Minichiello, and the

1:58:45 > 1:58:50team who have worked so many hours, making sure I was in the best shape

1:58:50 > 1:58:53I could possibly be at those key moments, like Michael said, the home

1:58:53 > 1:58:59Olympics. They come individually, as technicians, are incredible, but as

1:58:59 > 1:59:02a collective team they have been the best team I could ever have imagined

1:59:02 > 1:59:08having. This is to them as well, I need to thank them.My family have

1:59:08 > 1:59:12been there with me every step of the way. They supported me, taking me

1:59:12 > 1:59:17down to training sessions. Competitions. Not very glamorous

1:59:17 > 1:59:21locations. They watched me one, throw, jump, not very far in the

1:59:21 > 1:59:29early days. Then a massive thank you to my husband, Andy. We've been

1:59:29 > 1:59:32together 14 years now, married for four. He's been incredible,

1:59:32 > 1:59:36supported me the whole way. I've just had a baby, that's why I'm

1:59:36 > 1:59:43emotional. He'd supported me. We've been on this journey together. It's

1:59:43 > 1:59:47amazing now to be stood up here, you know, as both looking back from the

1:59:47 > 1:59:52other side at the journey we've had together. Now we've had two

1:59:52 > 1:59:57children, Reggie and Olivia. I couldn't be happier, I'm so proud.

1:59:57 > 2:00:01Thank you to the BBC for this incredible award. And thank you to

2:00:01 > 2:00:04everyone who has supported me for all those years. I'm just eternally

2:00:39 > 2:00:43Cricket has been a busy year for England. They are in the middle of

2:00:43 > 2:00:47an Ashes Series. It ain't going well. But 2017 hasn't all been a

2:00:47 > 2:00:50struggle. There's been record-breaking performances and big

2:00:50 > 2:00:55series wins. So to give us his spin on the last 12 months, it is a

2:00:55 > 2:01:07pleasure to hear from the melliflouousB Henry Blofeld.

2:01:07 > 2:01:12There was so much more to this cricketing year. First the

2:01:12 > 2:01:15champion's trophy on home soil, where Pakistan would foil the hosts

2:01:15 > 2:01:23and then their great rivals, India. That's it for Pakistan! It is.

2:01:23 > 2:01:29Pakistan have proved everybody wrong. In the test, the reign of

2:01:29 > 2:01:36Root started in some style. There he goes, 150 for Joe Root. The new

2:01:36 > 2:01:41captain upstaged only by the magnificent Mooen, the hat-trick

2:01:41 > 2:01:46hero. He's taken a hat-trick!The series

2:01:46 > 2:01:51was won 3-1. The West Indies visited next and

2:01:51 > 2:01:56showed spirit to force a decider. But an England victory at Lord's

2:01:56 > 2:02:02came with a milestone for their greatest ever bowler.Anderson...

2:02:02 > 2:02:10That's number 5 00!A fitting moment for me to hang up the mic. I must

2:02:10 > 2:02:20try and not fall over when I hand over to the next commentator who

2:02:20 > 2:02:28will be Ed Smith. How lovely. What of the Ashes? Australia struck first

2:02:28 > 2:02:32at Brisbane, thanks to their captain.His 100.And an England

2:02:32 > 2:02:36collapse.Everything going Australia's way. England are

2:02:36 > 2:02:42collapsing.In Adelaide, the same sinking feeling. Under the lights

2:02:42 > 2:02:53they showed some fight. . They headed to Perth, down by two.

2:02:53 > 2:03:07Good luck England, my dear old things. Thanks to Blowers.

2:22:25 > 2:22:32present. Please don't tell me... Is gone to bed?

2:22:34 > 2:22:43Oh no!I think that just about sums up Mo's evening, doesn't it, really?

2:22:43 > 2:22:47I'm sure that is Hussein pulling the plug out somewhere. It was the most

2:22:47 > 2:22:51brilliant non-interview that has ever happened.Everybody has voted

2:22:57 > 2:23:02His reaction was brilliant, that was for sure. There he is, Sir Mo Farah.

2:23:02 > 2:23:06Let's have a quick word with Michael Johnson because Michael, you have

2:23:06 > 2:23:10been there almost every step of the way, every major championship we

2:23:10 > 2:23:14have been to, to watch Mo Farah, to talk about his achievements. Put it

2:23:14 > 2:23:18into context what he's done on the global stage.I was hoping I

2:23:18 > 2:23:22wouldn't have to step in! I mean Mo has been amazing over the years.

2:23:22 > 2:23:28This year in particular, it was the year he came into a home

2:23:28 > 2:23:31Championships, his last race on the track, everyone knew this would be

2:23:31 > 2:23:37his last. And still delivered. Think about over the years, as he has

2:23:37 > 2:23:41dominated, the canyons, Ethiopians, have teamed up against him. He's out

2:23:41 > 2:23:46there by himself, he's always got tactics right. I looked at distance

2:23:46 > 2:23:50running and think, you go out there and run. But the tactics are

2:23:50 > 2:23:54amazing. He's always got it right. We've seen him almost fall down a

2:23:54 > 2:24:00couple of times. Is there still fighting. It's been an amazing

2:24:00 > 2:24:05season for him and an amazing career. Well deserved. He was

2:24:05 > 2:24:09clearly surprised tonight. He's there at the Sir Mo Farah track in

2:24:09 > 2:24:12west London and when he heard Kenny Dalglish announce his name, genuine

2:24:12 > 2:24:16shock on his face. Look at the reaction. He couldn't believe he had

2:24:16 > 2:24:22done it.It is a wonderful, wonderful result, many

2:24:22 > 2:24:24congratulations to Mo Farah, we'll have to catch up with him, you'll

2:24:24 > 2:24:28hear from him on BBC News on the BBC website as well, many apologise for

2:24:28 > 2:24:33the loss of link at the crucial time. As Gaby said, that is the way

2:24:33 > 2:24:39it happened. We can't even blame Majorca or Los Angeles, its London!

2:24:39 > 2:24:44That is the way live television goes, isn't it? Ladies and
