:00:00. > :00:00.on this overall complex plan we wait to see, but it could not have got

:00:00. > :00:10.off to a worse start in some ways. Now live to Birmingham where Nick

:00:11. > :00:13.Owen and Denise Lewis are looking at all the preparations and arrivals

:00:14. > :00:21.for this year's Sports Personality of the Year show. And who wins is

:00:22. > :00:29.down to you. You can cast your vote online. Numbers are shown on your TV

:00:30. > :00:32.screen. You can register to vote on the BBC Sports Personality of the

:00:33. > :00:36.Year website. It really is that simple. We are expecting over 1000

:00:37. > :00:45.people to walk down this red carpet, but let's seafood neck was speaking

:00:46. > :00:50.to. -- see who make a speaking tour. I have been joined by someone who

:00:51. > :00:57.has won 26 Olympic golds, the swimmer Michael Phelps and his wife,

:00:58. > :01:01.Nicole. Lovely to see you both. For me, my whole career started with a

:01:02. > :01:06.golden dream of being an Olympian and having the chance to win one.

:01:07. > :01:11.When I think back to the last five Olympics, and the thought of 28

:01:12. > :01:19.Olympic medals, 23 of them go, it is hard to wrap my head around. For me

:01:20. > :01:22.I have caught up to 2008, and that is where I am in my career about

:01:23. > :01:25.understanding of the thing that has happened and finally getting the

:01:26. > :01:29.chance to sit down and go back to the members I have before. The next

:01:30. > :01:32.one around will be the 2012 games that were here in London, so I'm

:01:33. > :01:36.looking forward to those and having the chance to be back here is

:01:37. > :01:39.definitely exciting. Ahead I presume you are aware it is one of the big

:01:40. > :01:46.nights in the British sporting calendar. Yes, I have some good

:01:47. > :01:49.friends who I competed against here, and I'm looking forward to seeing

:01:50. > :01:54.all the other athletes. It is always fun when you get athlete to get to

:01:55. > :01:57.dress up. Normally we are in our aspect of attire, whether it is a

:01:58. > :02:00.swimsuit for a track and field uniform, whatever it might be. It is

:02:01. > :02:05.always nice being able to get dressed up and come together to

:02:06. > :02:08.celebrate the year in sports. Inevitably people will say when will

:02:09. > :02:15.you give up and give other people a chance? No more. I said that four

:02:16. > :02:19.years ago but for me now just being where I am in my life and where we

:02:20. > :02:23.are in our lives, I don't have anything someone to do. I was able

:02:24. > :02:28.to finish a great summer by winning five more gold medals and one more

:02:29. > :02:32.silver. To be able to come up with other thing I had gone through,

:02:33. > :02:36.there is no better way to finish. Lovely to meet you both. Have a

:02:37. > :02:41.great evening. Really enjoy yourself, congratulations, thanks to

:02:42. > :02:46.you and to Nick Browne. Thank you, happy holidays and stop I am with

:02:47. > :02:50.triple gold medallist Sophie Christiansen. It is so fabulous to

:02:51. > :02:55.see you and many congratulations for what has been a fantastic year

:02:56. > :03:02.again. How does it feel to be here tonight? Just amazing. It hasn't

:03:03. > :03:08.really sunk in to be up here with so many amazing athletes. And still so

:03:09. > :03:18.many hundreds more that could have been nominated. So it is a massive

:03:19. > :03:23.privilege for me and to be able to showcase a minority sport, it is

:03:24. > :03:28.great. I know you are very passionate about that and Para-sport

:03:29. > :03:36.in general, but you are such a trailblazer, the most unbeaten since

:03:37. > :03:41.2012. It has really been incredible. Yes, it is hard to stay at the top

:03:42. > :03:49.but it is about thinking about those little things to always improve, and

:03:50. > :03:53.not get impatient. You are one of the very few athletes still working

:03:54. > :04:03.and competing at the highest level. How do you do it? It is my fault

:04:04. > :04:16.that I have done a really expensive sport, so I have to work. But for me

:04:17. > :04:20.it is about keeping my brain so active, so when I go to work I

:04:21. > :04:25.completely forget that I have two win a gold medal this year, and I am

:04:26. > :04:31.just normal Sophie is in the pet department. So it really helps me go

:04:32. > :04:40.back to my training. It has been fabulous to see you tonight, you are

:04:41. > :04:42.looking splendid, enjoyable evening. Thank you.

:04:43. > :04:47.Viewers from the BBC News Channel have just joined us, hello. We are

:04:48. > :04:50.in the red carpet near Birmingham ahead of the BBC Sports Personality

:04:51. > :04:53.of the Year awards, and I just want you, there may well be lots of

:04:54. > :04:59.flashing images because there was a lot going on with the paparazzi and

:05:00. > :05:04.seven. A fantastic feeling, Kadeena Cox. You won medals in two sports.

:05:05. > :05:14.Vila to something I have worked towards. It has been amazing. More

:05:15. > :05:16.mentally than anything it was tough. To stay grounded and perform a

:05:17. > :05:21.second time and then do the same thing a couple of days later. Just

:05:22. > :05:25.being able to focus was hard but it was the most enjoyable experience I

:05:26. > :05:29.ever had. When it came to an end, did you collapse in a heap? You get

:05:30. > :05:35.to the end of it and then you realise it is over. Your body does

:05:36. > :05:39.kind of go flat and you get really ill. I got quite ball after the

:05:40. > :05:45.games but it has been really exciting and busy since then so I

:05:46. > :05:47.have just been enjoying myself. You were diagnosed with multiple

:05:48. > :05:54.sclerosis just two years ago, it must've been a massive rethink from?

:05:55. > :05:58.Yes. It has changed my life than I have disabilities every day now.

:05:59. > :06:02.Being a disabled person has its challenges but at the same time it

:06:03. > :06:08.gave me amazing opportunities within Para-sport and in general. I guess I

:06:09. > :06:14.can't complain really. How I'm feeling with this atmosphere? I am

:06:15. > :06:18.early really nervous. It has been fun. We wish you well, thanks for

:06:19. > :06:25.talking to us, good luck and have a great evening. Kadeena Cox, thank

:06:26. > :06:31.you. I am with another of the 16 contenders. Adam Peaty, no less.

:06:32. > :06:38.This is great to see you, no stranger to the red carpet. Each

:06:39. > :06:42.year I keep coming back, hoping to win. It is great to be here and to

:06:43. > :06:47.show it with the rest of the country and hopefully give back as much as

:06:48. > :06:51.possible. Such a fabulous night, exciting, new in particular have to

:06:52. > :06:57.feel you are a strong, strong candidate. You kick started the gold

:06:58. > :07:01.rush for Team GB. Yes, but at the same time I am very young, so you're

:07:02. > :07:07.up against people who are 30, 40, 50, 60, I think some of them. I have

:07:08. > :07:11.plenty of years to come back and hopefully build a profile again.

:07:12. > :07:13.Tonight is all about giving back to the family and the British swimming

:07:14. > :07:19.and to those people who have given so much to me. It is not really for

:07:20. > :07:23.me tonight, hopefully to give back to those kids who watched me at the

:07:24. > :07:27.Olympics and to the side of me. I am not very comfortable in a suit, more

:07:28. > :07:31.comfortable in my swimming stuff. That is what it is about. Hopefully

:07:32. > :07:37.I can come back tonight with lots of people inspired to get back in the

:07:38. > :07:41.water. Fine limit and Camilla lovely girlfriend. Does he take it well in

:07:42. > :07:46.his stride always? Yes, he loves it. He is Willy good at being humble,

:07:47. > :07:51.and just taking it in his stride, really, he loves it. Sensible shoes

:07:52. > :07:55.this time, not the dramatic level issues you were last year. Yes, a

:07:56. > :08:04.bit more sensible. You have got to grow up now, haven't you? Always

:08:05. > :08:04.great to talk to you, you have had a fabulous season, many

:08:05. > :08:15.congratulations. Allan thank you. I have been joined by Kate

:08:16. > :08:22.Richardson-Walsh, who captained the GB female hockey team the globe. How

:08:23. > :08:26.does it feel to be part of this? It feels a bit surreal. To be back

:08:27. > :08:29.together again. This is the first time we have been back together

:08:30. > :08:35.since Rio. I am about to get mobbed now by them. It is a really special

:08:36. > :08:41.evening. They are very badly behaved. Exceptionally, but nothing

:08:42. > :08:45.to do with me any more, I am tired I am not in charge. A summary had

:08:46. > :08:50.offered you this at the beginning of the year, would you have taken it?

:08:51. > :08:54.Absolutely. Gold Medal, and to have a hockey person nominated in the

:08:55. > :08:58.short list I think is a really special moment for our sport. That

:08:59. > :09:02.final was agony to watch, what was it like to be part of it? Would like

:09:03. > :09:08.to keep fans on the edge of their seats. It was the best spectacle for

:09:09. > :09:12.sports. To win on penalty, to have a British team win on penalties was

:09:13. > :09:15.really great. Actually we were quite calm. We are in control, it is

:09:16. > :09:24.harder probably to watch than it is to play. And 10 billion people in --

:09:25. > :09:29.10 million people in GB watching you. We were in our own little

:09:30. > :09:32.bubble. So we could just focus on the job in hand. To find out that

:09:33. > :09:38.many people watched was a real treat. Very briefly, what has this

:09:39. > :09:43.done for women's Rocky? It has put it on the map and where it should

:09:44. > :09:48.be. Do you think you have a chance of winning the night? A lot of

:09:49. > :09:52.people will be rooting for you. The hockey family is vast. I am just

:09:53. > :10:00.proud to be one of the nominees. Thank you for talking to us.

:10:01. > :10:07.Onto our next contender for BBC Sports Personality of the Year

:10:08. > :10:10.Vostok let's take you back to the summer, Euro 2016, when Wales

:10:11. > :10:17.qualified for their first major tournament since 1958. Football is a

:10:18. > :10:26.team game, that when one man scores three goals, it could only be about

:10:27. > :10:30.him, Gareth Bale. Who started off at Southampton. Hard-working,

:10:31. > :10:35.level-headed, composed. Just a fantastic brand -- all-round

:10:36. > :10:41.footballer. The biggest attribute I could pay him is that he is a

:10:42. > :10:44.matchwinner. He is playing with the best and he doesn't look out of

:10:45. > :10:51.place, in fact he looks comfortable come he looks as if he is enjoying

:10:52. > :10:57.his life and his football. Real Madrid see Gareth Bale as part of

:10:58. > :11:02.their long-term plan, some accolade. Certain types of characters come

:11:03. > :11:07.into work and it is harder for other types. With him, years very calm, a

:11:08. > :11:13.family man, he is not interested in the razzmatazz that comes with being

:11:14. > :11:18.a Galactico. He just wants to get better as a player. He was a callous

:11:19. > :11:25.man for Wales in the qualifiers and in the Euros. He scored for Wales

:11:26. > :11:29.against England. That was the moment, I think that Wales thought

:11:30. > :11:36.Communion, we belong in this level, we can go on and be successful. Bail

:11:37. > :11:40.with another wicked delivery! Wales lead! As much as he is our best

:11:41. > :11:49.player, he is a world star, he is more than happy to give credit to

:11:50. > :11:52.his team mates. Very special, it is what it means to the whole country.

:11:53. > :11:56.Mice to us to say a little thank you as well for supporting us. Being

:11:57. > :12:05.there with the journey, amazing scenes. One we will never forget.

:12:06. > :12:10.The Wales boss Chris Como and joins me now on the carpet. Kris Commons

:12:11. > :12:15.have just seen that wonderful package about Gareth Bale. I guess

:12:16. > :12:23.the question most people want to ask is what is he like to manage? Very

:12:24. > :12:28.easy. He is a consummate professional. Highly motivated and

:12:29. > :12:36.very passionate. So for me as an international manager, he is perfect

:12:37. > :12:42.package. How much can you improve on perfection, that is left to achieve?

:12:43. > :12:46.You can always improve. Always room for improvement but he has that

:12:47. > :12:50.mentality that he wants to improve, keep on winning, keep being

:12:51. > :12:56.successful for club and country. I think all the best sportsmen have

:12:57. > :13:02.that same mentality. Just taking you back to those Euros. Have your feet

:13:03. > :13:07.touched the ground? Wales were so impressive, everyone got behind

:13:08. > :13:10.them. Yes, it was just one of those experiences that you never ever

:13:11. > :13:14.forget. Something that we have groomed about for a long time, every

:13:15. > :13:18.Welshman and women for decades, with we would never get to a tournament.

:13:19. > :13:23.We finally did, and then when we got there, I think the team did the

:13:24. > :13:30.country proud and we are very proud of the players. At the moment it is

:13:31. > :13:34.great to be a Welshman. Charlotte, it has been lovely to see you as

:13:35. > :13:39.well. Huw I am really proud of Wales and the whole Welsh team. Anything

:13:40. > :13:44.they did there was a bonus. They got to the semifinal so got to be plays

:13:45. > :13:53.with that, Gareth Bale, three goals in the qualifiers, so very pleased.

:13:54. > :13:58.Have a great evening, both of you. I have been joined by Dame Sevastova

:13:59. > :14:02.about cycling, actually Britain's most decorated Paralympian. That is

:14:03. > :14:08.some achievement, well your Gold Medals, congratulations. How does it

:14:09. > :14:12.feel? It is a huge honour. Still a couple of the medals away from the

:14:13. > :14:16.record of 16. But it is fantastic to be here and to have had such a

:14:17. > :14:24.successful year. You must be very proud of what you have achieved?

:14:25. > :14:31.Yes. My parents, taking me to those early morning training sessions when

:14:32. > :14:36.I was a swimmer. Now my husband. It is a huge team effort. You are a man

:14:37. > :14:39.now come in three years ago you became a mum, put on a lot of

:14:40. > :14:47.weight, it must have been very difficult to have the discipline to

:14:48. > :14:50.get back? I had four stone on me and wondered if it would never come off

:14:51. > :14:53.but at that point I did not feel any pressure to come back. If it came

:14:54. > :14:56.off and did come back, it would be brilliant. But I achieved other

:14:57. > :15:00.thing I ever wanted, and anything since then is a huge bonus will stop

:15:01. > :15:03.I am more driven than ever because having lose out there in Rio was the

:15:04. > :15:07.icing on the cake. Being able to celebrate with her was better than

:15:08. > :15:11.it had ever been without her. If fantastic opportunity when you have

:15:12. > :15:17.got kids to take them with you to the games. And of course you are a

:15:18. > :15:21.game, how does that make you feel? Still very surreal. It was four

:15:22. > :15:26.years ago in the news Honours list, these are the things you never aim

:15:27. > :15:30.for, you never expect. I hope I am able to represent my sport in a good

:15:31. > :15:35.way and use the title to help people not as fortunate as me. A lot of

:15:36. > :15:42.luck tonight, I hope you have a great evening and congratulations

:15:43. > :15:46.again. Sarah, thank you. Thank you. This young lady needs no

:15:47. > :15:52.introduction. I am joined by the most decorated female track cyclist

:15:53. > :15:57.in history. Laura, can adversely say you look stunning! Vila thank you.

:15:58. > :16:01.We can get dressed up every now and again, can't we? How long did it

:16:02. > :16:07.take you to put on that ensemble? About three hours! I have good

:16:08. > :16:11.friends, they came here to help me, bless them. Since we welcome your

:16:12. > :16:16.feet must not have touched the ground? It has been incredible. At

:16:17. > :16:19.the end of 2015, if you said to me what will your year be like I could

:16:20. > :16:23.not have imagined it would be like this. It has been way more than I

:16:24. > :16:30.ever could have imagined. It has gone to form, everything you have

:16:31. > :16:34.done has just been sublime. Thanks! : the ball started rolling back in

:16:35. > :16:37.the World Championships, I needed to get that under my doubt, be well

:16:38. > :16:42.champion in the Omni and again given then that gave me the whole year.

:16:43. > :16:46.Then in the deal honestly, I could not have dreamt of coming away with

:16:47. > :16:51.my two gold medals. Looking at your stats, four Olympic gold medals,

:16:52. > :16:56.seven world Gold Medals and ten European Gold Medals and you're

:16:57. > :16:59.still only 24. Yeah, I don't know how it's happened! Only a short

:17:00. > :17:05.career but a packed one, I would say, so far! I just love it, every

:17:06. > :17:11.minute of it, and that is why. With that comes success. Like you say, I

:17:12. > :17:15.just can't be more proud I guess of my own achievement only but the

:17:16. > :17:19.whole of Team GB. It has just been an incredible year. As I said, you

:17:20. > :17:22.are looking amazing, you have had a fantastic year, congratulations on

:17:23. > :17:30.the wedding, please enjoy your night. Thank you, cheers! From Laura

:17:31. > :17:33.Kenny to Jason Kenny, the other half. I'm not going to say which is

:17:34. > :17:37.the other hot because it is not for me to say. Congratulations on a

:17:38. > :17:44.wonderful year. Thank you very much, it has not been a bad one. Have

:17:45. > :17:51.equalled Sir Chris Hoy's Olympic record. Unbelievable. Yes. It was an

:17:52. > :17:55.amazing experience. Try and enjoy it. Do you ever pinch yourself in

:17:56. > :18:00.thing that you have achieved? I don't really think about it until

:18:01. > :18:08.people tell me, like just now. You are married now, congratulations, is

:18:09. > :18:13.there a friendly rivalry, going on? It is not something we think about.

:18:14. > :18:16.It is really funny commuter Olympic medals and they are amazing and

:18:17. > :18:20.special and the memories are incredible, that then you can put

:18:21. > :18:30.them in this October. It is a funny one. Not really in your sock draw?

:18:31. > :18:34.We should get a display. Seems a shame to hide them away. How do you

:18:35. > :18:40.have your cycling relationship, what is it like for you watching Laura in

:18:41. > :18:42.action? It is harder watching, I have a new appreciation for what my

:18:43. > :18:46.mum goes through, watching someone you care about going around the

:18:47. > :18:49.track you don't want them to the fan hurt themselves but you know how

:18:50. > :18:54.much it means. It is much harder watching someone compete than

:18:55. > :19:00.competing yourself. Do you urge each other on? Absolutely. And now helps

:19:01. > :19:05.motivation when you are having those bad days and you see your partner

:19:06. > :19:12.going forward. We help each other. And here she is. Hello!

:19:13. > :19:18.Congratulations on your marriage, but what a spectacular year this has

:19:19. > :19:21.been to you as a couple. It has been incredible. Looking back at 2015, it

:19:22. > :19:27.has been way more than I could have imagined, looking forward to another

:19:28. > :19:34.end of year. But as athlete and as a couple I guess. Do you have any time

:19:35. > :19:40.off for Christmas? Yes, but we have the family around. I would not call

:19:41. > :19:55.it time off, really! We need a harder -- a holiday after Christmas.

:19:56. > :20:00.Enjoy it. I am joined by Alistair Bone latecomer changed the title

:20:01. > :20:03.again. You have done it again. Triathlon is one of those boards

:20:04. > :20:08.were the Olympics are bigger than anything else. The goal was to try

:20:09. > :20:13.and win the race in Rio and thankfully I did it. We can relax a

:20:14. > :20:18.bit. You are a Yorkshireman, very well but presented at the sports

:20:19. > :20:23.personality this year. The region itself is so rich with talent.

:20:24. > :20:30.Absolutely. We have seen a massive increase in sports talent around the

:20:31. > :20:34.country. 60 medals in total is incredible. Yorkshire especially. I

:20:35. > :20:37.am very proud to be from Yorkshire and I would really like to stay here

:20:38. > :20:40.and say I could count on the Yorkshire boat tonight but I can't

:20:41. > :20:47.because there are some inevitable from Yorkshire which is brilliant

:20:48. > :20:54.but maybe a bit unfortunate as well. Happy before. The atmosphere is

:20:55. > :20:59.incredible. Yes, anyone who was involved in sport, it is one of

:21:00. > :21:02.those things. I'm about trying to stay up to watch it when I was ten

:21:03. > :21:05.years old and it had been too late for me to see the final result. To

:21:06. > :21:08.be here tonight and to have a chance to stand on that stage is so

:21:09. > :21:17.special. Something I will others remember. Now Johnny tonight? Yes,

:21:18. > :21:22.he was here somewhere. We are not joined at the hip! It has been

:21:23. > :21:26.fantastic watching you, a great ambassador for triathlon and you

:21:27. > :21:32.must be very proud how the sport has taken. Yes, I am. I started doing

:21:33. > :21:36.triathlon when I was six or seven or eight years old, no one knew what

:21:37. > :21:41.was. I have been really fortunate to be part of it and riding that wave

:21:42. > :21:44.on triathlon, coming from an obscure sport to something everyone almost

:21:45. > :21:48.knows about it. It has been incredible and one of the fantastic

:21:49. > :21:51.things about me being here tonight is hopefully some young people out

:21:52. > :21:53.there can have a go at triathlon, a sport that has given me so much.

:21:54. > :22:02.Enjoy your evening, thank you. He was the first Briton to win the

:22:03. > :22:07.US Masters in 20 years, Danny Willett. Good evening to you, Danny,

:22:08. > :22:12.what a year. It has been fantastic, not a bad way to tap it. It is great

:22:13. > :22:15.to be here tonight, it has been a busy year so to finally stop playing

:22:16. > :22:18.a couple of weeks ago and Masna to actually enjoy some of the

:22:19. > :22:26.highlights of what a fantastic year we have had. Are you saying me you

:22:27. > :22:30.have not gone out and done a bit of putting practice? They have been

:22:31. > :22:33.away for a couple of weeks, the clubs. Travelling thousands of miles

:22:34. > :22:40.across different countries, it is nice to get back home, lock the

:22:41. > :22:49.door, just enjoy normal family life. You talk about Nick and so on. At

:22:50. > :22:54.eight the module studios it was for the family. Perspective of the

:22:55. > :23:01.Masters. Just reminders, when the baby came, compared with the

:23:02. > :23:05.Masters? He was going to come on the Sunday but he came ten days early,

:23:06. > :23:11.on the Tuesday. Early enough to give me time to it at there to America

:23:12. > :23:16.and do my job. And you still were able to concentrate? Yes, just a

:23:17. > :23:22.whirlwind 12 days that started fantastically and fantastically.

:23:23. > :23:24.Just a crazy moment in my life. And it was traumatic, the way Jordan

:23:25. > :23:30.Spieth sort of collapsed dramatically in the last round. Yes.

:23:31. > :23:36.It is a tough golf course around that place, the pressure we are

:23:37. > :23:40.under, that is what it is about. We just tried to keep putting pressure

:23:41. > :23:43.on and fortunately enough we put enough on as to where there was a

:23:44. > :23:48.little crack in the arm and will able to come through. Just briefly,

:23:49. > :23:53.what next? Christmas and then we will be out in Abu Dhabi in late

:23:54. > :23:56.January. We wish you well, Danny Willett, good luck tonight. I have

:23:57. > :24:01.been joined by one of my oldest athletic pals, Darren Campbell. It

:24:02. > :24:09.is great to see you here the night. It is good to be here. I am here

:24:10. > :24:12.with Get Inspired, it is called the hashtag big thank you. We are

:24:13. > :24:18.getting big sports stars to make those calls to the volunteers and

:24:19. > :24:24.say thank you. So important to give back, and on Skype, we have Gillian,

:24:25. > :24:31.who is a volunteer at a boxing gym in Redditch that has been set up by

:24:32. > :24:46.Sarah. Hello to both of you. Hello. Hello. Tell us how you got involved.

:24:47. > :24:51.Yes, basically I was brought in from James Winston, who did a bit of

:24:52. > :24:56.boxing with me at first, and then he asked me if I wanted to do

:24:57. > :25:05.volunteering, and then he sent me over to Sarah to talk to. That is

:25:06. > :25:14.how I came to be here. And Sarah, for you, how fantastic is it to have

:25:15. > :25:17.Gillian at your gym? She is a godsend. Without her we could not do

:25:18. > :25:24.half the things that we do. We have a lot of classes, and she has always

:25:25. > :25:28.got a smile on her face. She welcomes everyone in. She helps with

:25:29. > :25:36.the inclusive work as well. Just a real credit to the club and to

:25:37. > :25:41.herself. Fantastic. Brilliant to speak to both of you, keep up the

:25:42. > :25:48.great work that you do. Thank you very much. Thank you. Thank you. The

:25:49. > :25:50.work that people like Gillian do, if it has inspired you, take a look at

:25:51. > :26:35.this. It has been another incredible year

:26:36. > :26:41.for Mo Farah, one of the 16 contenders tonight. He was one of

:26:42. > :26:47.the stars of London 2012, and this year in Rio, he completed that

:26:48. > :26:55.double double, making him one of only the second people to do that

:26:56. > :26:58.over the five and 10,000 metres. 2016 was pretty incredible. I was

:26:59. > :27:07.mainly thinking about seeing if I could win two more gold medals and

:27:08. > :27:12.retain my title. Here we go. He had a mesmerising effect on me when he

:27:13. > :27:18.fell over and bounced off the track. I just went down into the ground. He

:27:19. > :27:22.has fallen, just got a little clip! At that point I was panicking, my

:27:23. > :27:26.race is over, I'm done. Everything is over, everything I have worked

:27:27. > :27:33.for. And then in the back of my mind it was like no, it can't happen. I

:27:34. > :27:36.have worked too hard for this. I promise my daughter over to get a

:27:37. > :27:43.gold medal so I thought I could not let her down. Has Mo got the power,

:27:44. > :27:52.the strength, the speed to defend this title? Mo Farah wins the gold!

:27:53. > :27:58.Who wants to be away from where they grew up, where they have friends and

:27:59. > :28:09.families? No one. If you want to become a champion, it comes with it.

:28:10. > :28:14.Mo, going for the double double. For me it was, I need to go for this and

:28:15. > :28:18.see if I can win one more goal for my son. Mo Farah is going to get

:28:19. > :28:29.gold for Great Britain again. Four Olympic titles, four Olympic gold

:28:30. > :28:34.medals. I wanted to achieve what I could and then won the time was

:28:35. > :28:38.right stop and say, I did myself proud, I did my country proud, I did

:28:39. > :28:45.what I could do. I am joined by somebody who is described as one of

:28:46. > :28:49.the oldest gold medallists of all time - Nick Skelton. Do you get fed

:28:50. > :28:55.up with the age thing? Everybody looks as me that Wheeler -- looks at

:28:56. > :29:00.me as an old man. I don't think about it. It was great at the age of

:29:01. > :29:04.58 to win a gold medal in your seventh Olympics. A I am lucky I

:29:05. > :29:09.could go on that long, and I am really proud to be able to represent

:29:10. > :29:18.my country for so many years, really. To win gold in Rio was an

:29:19. > :29:27.honour for me, especially with the help of all the people who got us

:29:28. > :29:32.there. Without people spending monetary on -- money on lottery

:29:33. > :29:38.tickets, Team GB and so on. And you did it after breaking your neck. I

:29:39. > :29:43.did, but I had a couple of years. It was great to come back, and I would

:29:44. > :29:47.always say that I can't do anything else, really, so I had to go back

:29:48. > :29:55.nominated to be the BBC Sports nominated to be the BBC Sports

:29:56. > :29:58.Personality Of The Year? It is great to be nominated, and I am privileged

:29:59. > :30:05.to be standing here tonight with some great sports people. It is

:30:06. > :30:09.probably one of the only chance I will get to stand on that stage.

:30:10. > :30:17.Time is running out for me, really. What next? Do you see Tokyo in your

:30:18. > :30:23.sites? I said it before and I will say it again, I don't think I will

:30:24. > :30:27.go to Tokyo, because I really enjoy riding Big Star now, and he probably

:30:28. > :30:31.has a couple of years left, and when he retires, I will. We wish you all

:30:32. > :30:39.the best, and very good luck tonight. Thanks. Last year's sports

:30:40. > :30:45.personality was Andy Murray - can he do it again this year? We saw him

:30:46. > :30:47.retain his Wimbledon title, become Olympic champion again, and take

:30:48. > :30:59.that all-important world number one slot. Oh, and he became a dad as

:31:00. > :31:03.well. After matches, I feel a little bit more level-headed. I'm not

:31:04. > :31:09.stressed about the outcome of matches or tournaments now, which

:31:10. > :31:12.has allowed me to deal with things probably a little bit better, seeing

:31:13. > :31:21.things from a slightly different perspective. He's there. Straight

:31:22. > :31:25.sets by again. A supreme performance, a first-class

:31:26. > :31:31.tournament. To get over the line at Wimbledon was big for me. I

:31:32. > :31:37.definitely enjoyed that one more than any of the other major

:31:38. > :31:43.tournaments I have one. -- I have won. Andy Murray leads out Great

:31:44. > :31:46.Britain and Northern Ireland. A great experience carrying the flag

:31:47. > :31:56.as well, and I never expected to do that. Andy Murray is a double

:31:57. > :32:01.Olympic gold medallist. It was one of the toughest finals I have come

:32:02. > :32:08.through. Emotionally, I found it pretty draining. Amazing, obviously,

:32:09. > :32:14.to win another Olympic gold. Andy is definitely number one in the world.

:32:15. > :32:17.He is the best player. He has been extremely patient, he has

:32:18. > :32:21.persevered, and he has gotten better, which is hard to do when you

:32:22. > :32:32.have been dealt a bunch of blows against guys, some of the greatest

:32:33. > :32:39.players ever to live, and to come out of that as number one is

:32:40. > :32:44.amazing. Am joined back -- I am joined by Jamie Vardy. I saw you

:32:45. > :32:54.last game in non-league football - Fleetwood against someone. I

:32:55. > :32:57.remember that. Can you believe the things that have happened to you

:32:58. > :33:03.since then? Not at all. I still pinch myself most days, but it is a

:33:04. > :33:07.come from and the hard work that has come from and the hard work that has

:33:08. > :33:11.had to go into it. It makes you wonder how much other talent is out

:33:12. > :33:17.there that doesn't get the chance to break through. I think there's

:33:18. > :33:20.loads. I have set up the academy looking at non-league players trying

:33:21. > :33:23.to get them into the professional game. The scouting system we have, I

:33:24. > :33:29.think there is loads, so hopefully that will produce more. You went to

:33:30. > :33:32.a championship club, you get promotion, you go to the Premier

:33:33. > :33:37.League, you win the Premier League, top scorer, Player of the Year,

:33:38. > :33:42.playing for England - it is phenomenal. It is unbelievable, a

:33:43. > :33:46.very strange feeling, but if you asked any English football of what

:33:47. > :33:51.the pinnacle of the Korea is, it would be representing your country.

:33:52. > :33:54.Long may it continue. Tonight, you are one of the candidates to be the

:33:55. > :34:01.Sports Personality Of The Year - how does that feel? It is amazing, but

:34:02. > :34:05.there is tough competition. Everyone has had a remarkable year in their

:34:06. > :34:11.sport, so we will see. And they are filing past you right now. They sure

:34:12. > :34:17.are. With this season we had last year, hopefully we can pick up the

:34:18. > :34:22.award for team of the year as well. The team did very well in the end

:34:23. > :34:27.yesterday. It showed what we are about - fighting spirit. That is one

:34:28. > :34:30.of them things that happens in football. With the boys making the

:34:31. > :34:38.comeback like they did, it shows what they are about. What is your

:34:39. > :34:41.ambition now? Who knows? Football- wise, we need to make sure we pick

:34:42. > :34:47.more points up, and then come February, we will go back to the

:34:48. > :34:53.Champions League. Best of luck tonight. Have a good one.

:34:54. > :34:58.Nicola Adams has been one of the most decorated female boxers in

:34:59. > :35:03.history. It has been amazing to watch her do what she does

:35:04. > :35:14.emphatically. It is so busy here. Let's have a look at how she has

:35:15. > :35:19.gone on. The best memory of 2016 has to be being on the podium and

:35:20. > :35:23.receiving my gold medal. I like the pressure, I thrive on it and use it

:35:24. > :35:27.to my advantage. It makes me perform better. I like that everything is on

:35:28. > :35:31.the line and everybody is coming after me. That's what makes me get

:35:32. > :35:35.out of bed in the morning, the thought of someone wanting to take

:35:36. > :35:43.my title. It's just me when I step in the ring, but I think about the

:35:44. > :35:49.sacrifices my family made to get me there. Nicola Adams looking to join

:35:50. > :35:58.a short list of boxing legends. I said to myself, this is it. She is

:35:59. > :36:03.like, I will do it for you, Mum. She didn't look nervous or anything. I

:36:04. > :36:08.was on the edge of my seat, and I thought, is she? Is and she? Your

:36:09. > :36:11.heart is pounding and your stomach is turning. You're just waiting to

:36:12. > :36:19.hear the name before you start celebrating. COMMENTATOR: Nicola

:36:20. > :36:24.Adams! She lets out a triumphant roar, having been crowned as Olympic

:36:25. > :36:29.champion for the second successive time. Overcome with emotion after

:36:30. > :36:48.hearing the anthem and seeing the union Jack raised.

:36:49. > :36:53.The BBC get inspired unsung hero award is a celebration of the

:36:54. > :37:00.development and running of grassroots sport. With me here are

:37:01. > :37:04.15 people from across the UK, and one of them will be the national

:37:05. > :37:07.unsung hero. We will have a chat with one or two might. Rachel, you

:37:08. > :37:16.are from Glasgow. Explain what you do. I like helping people learn to

:37:17. > :37:19.ride bikes. I go out with a women's cycling group, which is to provide

:37:20. > :37:27.women with the opportunity to ride bikes in a comfortable and safe

:37:28. > :37:32.environment. I coach with Glasgow Riders, and I also work with

:37:33. > :37:37.freewheel north, and accessible charity to help anybody have a shot

:37:38. > :37:45.at our bike, regardless. Good to see you here. Andy, you're from

:37:46. > :37:50.Coleraine. What do you do? We facilitate football on a weekly

:37:51. > :37:57.basis for upwards of 5000 children throughout the whole of the north

:37:58. > :38:05.coast of Northern Ireland. It is special to us, and a key element is

:38:06. > :38:09.that it is just fun. It is about participating and the benefits that

:38:10. > :38:18.everybody gets out of that. Vicky from Cwmbran, tell us what you do.

:38:19. > :38:21.We have a women's football club, and be like getting children involved in

:38:22. > :38:30.playing sports. Verve, from Brighton, explain what you do. I

:38:31. > :38:34.work with Brighton's LGBT sports charity. We try to get people from

:38:35. > :38:39.the community involved in sports. Lovely to speak to you. I would love

:38:40. > :38:47.to speak to all of you. There can only be one winner, but will you

:38:48. > :38:53.enjoy whatever? Yes! Best of luck. I'm joined by Max Whitlock, double

:38:54. > :39:01.gold medallist from gymnastics. Great to see you. You too. Have your

:39:02. > :39:04.feet touch the ground? It has been an incredible 2016, and to be

:39:05. > :39:07.nominated again for Sports Personality Of The Year is such an

:39:08. > :39:14.achievement. It is such an honour to be here. It has been crazy, for the

:39:15. > :39:21.whole of Team GB. Personally, it feels unreal. You introducing me

:39:22. > :39:27.then with double gold Olympic champion, it doesn't feel real. I am

:39:28. > :39:32.looking forward to tonight, I have been since I was selected. What has

:39:33. > :39:35.it meant for gymnastics? I know that your performances will have inspired

:39:36. > :39:41.so many young people to want to get involved. That is the mission. Since

:39:42. > :39:48.London 2012, it is just getting people involved in gymnastics. It's

:39:49. > :39:52.amazing to say that, because what we do, we love it. I want as many kids

:39:53. > :39:59.to try it as possible, because I know how great it is. Try

:40:00. > :40:06.gymnastics, that is all I encourage. What is next to you? It all kicks

:40:07. > :40:09.off in March. The European Championships are coming around

:40:10. > :40:12.quickly, then the World Championships, so it doesn't stop. I

:40:13. > :40:19.will be back in the gym, training hard. Will you let your hair down

:40:20. > :40:24.tonight? I know it is now fracking. Of course. I will make use of this

:40:25. > :40:26.time. I have had a small break. And I have been looking forward to

:40:27. > :40:31.tonight since I was selected. It will be great to catch up with

:40:32. > :40:36.everyone, all the contestants. Fabulous to see you again. Many

:40:37. > :40:44.congratulations. Thank you very much. I'm delighted to say that Ryan

:40:45. > :40:49.Giggs, absolute legend of Manchester City, is here. You know what it is

:40:50. > :40:52.like to win this. Yes, I was fortunate enough to win it was an

:40:53. > :40:56.unbelievable feeling. As I said on the night, I grew up watching the

:40:57. > :41:01.programme, and I think it is part of everyone's life growing up. What is

:41:02. > :41:09.happening with you now? You have left Manchester United. Are you

:41:10. > :41:13.freelance? Straight from school, I joined United. I went from playing

:41:14. > :41:18.to coaching. I am enjoying the free time, getting to watch some

:41:19. > :41:23.football. What about the way that Wales played this summer? It was

:41:24. > :41:27.inspirational for the nation, really. What the lads did and what

:41:28. > :41:32.Chris did was unbelievable. I don't think anyone thought they would do

:41:33. > :41:36.so well. Chris said it, to be fair, we're not here to make the numbers

:41:37. > :41:42.up and we want to do the best we can. And they did. What do you want

:41:43. > :41:47.to do in the next few years? I always said I wanted to go into

:41:48. > :41:51.coaching. I am taking a bit of time, visiting different clubs, watching

:41:52. > :41:58.some football, but I will go back to coaching. Ryan Giggs, thanks for

:41:59. > :42:02.joining us. Have a lovely night. That's it, we have counted them all

:42:03. > :42:09.in. But who will be BBC Sports Personality Of The Year? From us

:42:10. > :42:16.here in Birmingham, have a very good night. Goodbye.
