:00:21. > :00:26.Welcome to Cookstown for the start of the big summer of bikes here on
:00:27. > :00:36.the BBC. COMMENTATOR: Here goes Johnston. He
:00:37. > :00:59.is there! The countdown is on to the first
:01:00. > :01:06.International race of the season, the Northwest and it is a last
:01:07. > :01:10.chance for riders to fine tune their preparations. The Cookstown 100 is
:01:11. > :01:13.the oldest and longest running road race in Northern Ireland, and it has
:01:14. > :01:18.a track of top-class field. Heading the cast list is William Dunlop,
:01:19. > :01:30.vastly experienced, he flies the flag for Chris Dowd racing.
:01:31. > :01:34.Everything about the bike Bala chassis is fast, it is brilliant, so
:01:35. > :01:43.that is just my problem and it is up for me to get it right. I have been
:01:44. > :01:48.struggling a bit, so it is more mean rather than the bike. I love the
:01:49. > :01:53.national thing, because whether you come home with a win or not, it is
:01:54. > :02:12.about fun, so that is why I enjoy it, and then coming to the
:02:13. > :02:20.north-west TT, I just love it. Dan Kneen from the Isle of Man. You need
:02:21. > :02:25.to get to know them and they need to get to know you, and it is a
:02:26. > :02:28.partnership, so, so far, so good. I feel like they know what I am
:02:29. > :02:34.talking about all the time and what changes I need to make, so it is
:02:35. > :02:43.coming together. The on assuming Derek Sheils, multiple Irish
:02:44. > :02:50.champion and hotly fancied. I am looking for a win on the Superbike,
:02:51. > :02:55.maybe on the Supertwins. His team-mate in the John Burroughs
:02:56. > :02:59.racing outfit is Malachi Mitchell-Thomas. It is his debut
:03:00. > :03:03.season, but the former Manx Grand Prix winner has already made a big
:03:04. > :03:13.impression. I like to work with a cracking team here, I have got a
:03:14. > :03:18.good suspension guy, and we can talk and develop, and we are making the
:03:19. > :03:21.bikes better now that John knows I could write, because he had never
:03:22. > :03:28.seen me ride a bike before I started riding for him, literally never seen
:03:29. > :03:32.me, so now he knows that we can get some good races, we are hoping to
:03:33. > :03:39.get the new Suzuki at the end of the year and develop that going into
:03:40. > :03:43.next year. And James Caton, and in judgment with previous success on
:03:44. > :03:47.the national scene. It is a matter of getting your head into gear, and
:03:48. > :03:53.Gelling with the team again, so it is a matter of getting your head
:03:54. > :03:59.down and keeping a good line, and it is going all right, to be honest.
:04:00. > :04:04.Look out, too, for the talented Irishman Derek McGee, a former
:04:05. > :04:08.winner of the Ulster Grand Prix. But perhaps the man to keep an eye on
:04:09. > :04:14.today is Paul Jordan from Magherafelt. He is a former Irish
:04:15. > :04:20.champion and is in pole position for the first way is, the Supersport
:04:21. > :04:23.Invitational. It has been raining, but the roads are drying, albeit is
:04:24. > :04:33.a little chilly. COMMENTATOR: A mixture of colours
:04:34. > :04:40.overhead, blue skies and grey clouds, and a mixture of youth and
:04:41. > :04:51.promise and experience on the court. The two mile in length or at a
:04:52. > :04:56.circuit. -- Orritor Circuit. It is IS left to watch the lights, the
:04:57. > :05:01.clutch is about to be released, but not too quickly, Dan Kneen pops a
:05:02. > :05:11.wheel, and Paul Jordan pops in front as they scream away. A change at the
:05:12. > :05:14.front already is Derek McGee powers past Paul Jordan, who breaks very
:05:15. > :05:20.early indeed and is losing a handful of places. Jordan goes from France
:05:21. > :05:26.to fifth in an instant, perhaps it was put off by the wet patches on
:05:27. > :05:30.the side of the road. There are some who think this could be a good year
:05:31. > :05:37.for Derek McGee, his best yet perhaps, and he is off to a demon
:05:38. > :05:49.starting Cookstown. This is where the circuit narrows at McAdoo Bends.
:05:50. > :05:54.He took his power at McAdoo, but Dunlop takes the position back.
:05:55. > :05:58.There are damp patches here where it is sheltered from the sun, and this
:05:59. > :06:07.could prove to be citing lack for the riders, they may start to really
:06:08. > :06:12.mix it up lap two. It is Cowton, Kneen, Dunlop, Jordan.
:06:13. > :06:24.Still damp patches as they come into Craigmount, and the road drops down
:06:25. > :06:29.towards the right. Here is the Orritor Crossroads, and Dunlop slips
:06:30. > :06:32.inside and is up to fourth. So, it is game on as they crossed the line
:06:33. > :06:35.with Derek McGee leading the way to start lap two. McGee
:06:36. > :06:39.with Derek McGee leading the way to tenths of a second from Mitchell
:06:40. > :06:47.Thomas, who has a further second over Cowton in third. I fancy that
:06:48. > :06:52.he will take Cowton, and he does indeed go third. Don't look over
:06:53. > :06:57.your shoulder, Malachi Mitchell-Thomas, because here comes
:06:58. > :07:03.Dunlop, and meanwhile, Dan Kneen has pulled up closer.
:07:04. > :07:14.Riding with James Cowton, and that is Dan Kneen, on the Yamaha, going
:07:15. > :07:21.into fourth, and Cowton, who was third, is now fifth. And there goes
:07:22. > :07:30.Dunlop, head down, no-nonsense as he goes into second. They recorded
:07:31. > :07:38.1.29.5, he is the man to watch now, especially as he has Derek McGee
:07:39. > :07:41.fixed firmly in his sights. He needs to up his game, and he seems to be
:07:42. > :07:52.doing just that as he leaves Mac one behind. Dunlop handing me the as
:07:53. > :07:56.they crack into McAdoo. Back with James Cowton, trying to stay in
:07:57. > :07:59.touch with Dan Kneen. And Paul Jordan goes through on the sharp run
:08:00. > :08:20.to Mackney. The run-up to blacks jump at the top
:08:21. > :08:28.of the track. He will take it with James Cowton, keeps the bike over to
:08:29. > :08:32.the right, and over the crest they go, a very popular spot for
:08:33. > :08:36.spectators. Is William Dunlop close enough to take the move? Not this
:08:37. > :08:40.time. But he may have a pop as they start the next lap.
:08:41. > :08:45.time. But he may have a pop as they come, and Dunlop Osman the language
:08:46. > :08:47.indicates he is going for it, but Derek McGee with good drive, keeping
:08:48. > :08:53.indicates he is going for it, but the power up, but it is now all
:08:54. > :08:59.about the brakes going into Gortin, you can overshoot or go to soon.
:09:00. > :09:05.Derek McGee takes the lead, and now he is out in front, can anyone take
:09:06. > :09:08.him back? Let's have a look at this again. It is a masterclass from
:09:09. > :09:12.William Dunlop on the brakes. This is the run down into Mackney,
:09:13. > :09:25.Mitchell-Thomas may This is the run down into Mackney,
:09:26. > :09:31.complete nonsense of that theory with a move but Mackney, and he has!
:09:32. > :09:40.I don't think I have ever seen move on that bend. So the young hotshot
:09:41. > :09:45.is leading his mark. Three bikes are dropping further away as he looks
:09:46. > :09:46.back. Looking back from Dan Kneen as well, that is Paul Jordan in fifth
:09:47. > :09:51.place. William Dunlop on well, that is Paul Jordan in fifth
:09:52. > :09:57.top the leaderboard at the end of lap five, with Malachi
:09:58. > :10:09.Mitchell-Thomas second. Was that a mistake by McGee? He drops right
:10:10. > :10:12.back to Paul Jordan. The tricky surface, the lap record is held by
:10:13. > :10:16.Michael Dunlop, three and a half seconds quicker than anyone has
:10:17. > :10:24.managed so far today, with Kneen looking keen into Gortin. This is
:10:25. > :10:29.Matthew Rees, the Welshman. Not a classic passing place. This has been
:10:30. > :10:31.impressive classic passing place. This has been
:10:32. > :10:40.Mitchell-Thomas who is on his way to a first-ever podium in Cookstown.
:10:41. > :10:46.And down goes Mitchell Thomas! Dan Kneen goes straight on, as he
:10:47. > :10:50.reacted to the stricken rider. William Dunlop looks around and
:10:51. > :10:55.wonders where everyone has gone. McGee is now second, Jordan third.
:10:56. > :11:00.Here is a replay, I expect the front just touched. The road kinks to the
:11:01. > :11:06.left, down he goes, and not too clear as to what caused that.
:11:07. > :11:13.Mitchell Thomas looks OK as he is attended to by the doctor. Red flags
:11:14. > :11:18.are out, so the races been halted on final lap. It won't stop Dunlop
:11:19. > :11:22.being awarded the win, with the results at the end of lap five, but
:11:23. > :11:28.Mitchell Thomas perhaps excluded for causing the race to be red flagged.
:11:29. > :11:32.That is in fact what has happened, Kneen get second place, with McGee
:11:33. > :11:33.in third, while William becomes the most accessible Dunlop in terms of
:11:34. > :11:42.victories at Cookstown. Congratulations, a great start to
:11:43. > :11:47.the day. I didn't expect anything, to be honest with you, I struggled
:11:48. > :11:52.really bad yesterday, and I wasn't interested, but I went out today and
:11:53. > :11:59.I felt comfortable. One interested spectator here today is Lee Johnson.
:12:00. > :12:05.You had a crash recently. How are you, first of all? Getting better
:12:06. > :12:08.every day, the first week is probably the hardest, trying to
:12:09. > :12:13.rest, just sitting in the house when you are used to being so active, it
:12:14. > :12:17.is hard. So just bad time of year, working hard to get fit, and
:12:18. > :12:23.battling back a bit, but it is awesome to be here and watch, so I'm
:12:24. > :12:30.enjoying it. Ready for the Northwest 200? I am looking forward to being
:12:31. > :12:34.there, but how fit I'm going to be, I won't know until the day. Getting
:12:35. > :12:39.a buzz today? I'm excited to watch. You are used to riding, you are
:12:40. > :12:42.normally not bothered watching, but to see them pushing like mad trying
:12:43. > :12:47.to win, I'd probably get more nervous than ever be else! Having a
:12:48. > :12:55.really good day. Enjoy. The next race, the big bikes are on the grid.
:12:56. > :13:06.Dan Kneen on row three could be the man to watch. The big bikes about to
:13:07. > :13:11.be unleashed. Way they go. Per start for William Dunlop. That is not what
:13:12. > :13:16.he wanted. We ride with Mitchell Thomas, no fax from the earlier
:13:17. > :13:27.crash and looking for a third, but it is Dan Kneen. Derek Shiels into
:13:28. > :13:36.Gortin first. Dan Kneen in third and Sweeney from the front row back to
:13:37. > :13:38.fifth. McAdoo for the first time. The Sun helping to dry out the
:13:39. > :13:52.track. It looks as though William Dunlop
:13:53. > :13:58.has recovered at least one position. He has been left a bit of work to
:13:59. > :14:03.do. On-board with Mitchell Thomas as the bikes begin to open up again and
:14:04. > :14:12.about to get airborne, motocross style as they power the rise. On
:14:13. > :14:16.board with Dan Kneen at the start as Dunlop gets left behind. Mitchell
:14:17. > :14:23.Thomas taking it right to the kerb and Dan Kneen is already up to
:14:24. > :14:27.fourth. Then third. Slows for the turn. Just what Dan Kneen must've
:14:28. > :14:31.been hoping for from Row three. Perhaps even better than he had
:14:32. > :14:39.hoped for. Third place on the opening lap of six. Derek Shiels
:14:40. > :14:44.Stillman then in the gap over McGhee. Mitchell Thomas still
:14:45. > :14:50.breathing down his neck. That is Dan Kneen who drops the back wheel
:14:51. > :14:54.breathing down his neck. That is Dan past. A change for third pace.
:14:55. > :14:58.Mitchell Thomas is third and Dan anime is back to fourth.
:14:59. > :15:02.You can see this again. This is from Dan Kneen.
:15:03. > :15:06.He clips it and takes it too wide and loses momentum.
:15:07. > :15:20.This is from Mitchell Thomas, just watch Dan Kneen there.
:15:21. > :15:22.He gets it wrong. Derek Shiels really looks
:15:23. > :15:31.the business and he will take some catching.
:15:32. > :15:35.I think Derek Magee knows there is nothing he can do
:15:36. > :15:38.about Shiels but he has to rely on a mistake from
:15:39. > :15:41.the race leader now. Shiels continues to pull further
:15:42. > :15:43.away at the front but it should be closer for third
:15:44. > :15:47.between Mitchell Thomas and Dan Kneen and indeed it is.
:15:48. > :15:50.It looks as though he will give his boss two bikes on the podium
:15:51. > :15:55.at the end of this if he can keep this up.
:15:56. > :16:03.The leading riders in the second wave John Walshe
:16:04. > :16:13.ahead of James Cowton. Last lap then.
:16:14. > :16:18.Dan Kneen looks to be closing on Mitchell Thomas.
:16:19. > :16:21.He certainly looks the part, into Gortin, but is he close
:16:22. > :16:22.enough to fashion a move? No is the short answer
:16:23. > :16:29.but he could gain ground. He gets points for style but that
:16:30. > :16:32.does not count for much apart from giving the spectators plenty
:16:33. > :16:36.of enjoyment as per usual. If he is going to steal third place
:16:37. > :16:40.from Mitchell Thomas he is running out of options.
:16:41. > :16:53.Perhaps on a 600, but I cannot see it on a superbike.
:16:54. > :17:01.Not close enough to do it. His last throw of the dice
:17:02. > :17:04.is in place as we switch to Derek Shiels who is counting down
:17:05. > :17:10.the corners on his way to the chequered flag.
:17:11. > :17:13.It has been a early perfect performance from Derek Shiels
:17:14. > :17:16.after having missed out on victory last year,
:17:17. > :17:17.will he repeat his performance of two years ago by winning
:17:18. > :17:23.the open race at Cookstown? of two years ago by winning
:17:24. > :17:27.That has broken Derek McGhee who has eased off to ensure he takes second.
:17:28. > :17:27.Here he is, celebrates with
:17:28. > :17:34.Here he is, celebrates like Mitchell Thomas will hold off
:17:35. > :17:44.Dan Kneen for third. Derek Shiels soaks in the applause
:17:45. > :17:53.Dan Kneen fourth, Derek McGhee second and Derek Shiels on top.
:17:54. > :17:58.Great ride. I enjoyed that.
:17:59. > :18:04.Derek Shiels steps onto the top Just poked away and did the job.
:18:05. > :18:11.Derek Shiels steps onto the top of the podium and deservedly so.
:18:12. > :18:17.The Moto3 race was won by Paul Jordan.
:18:18. > :18:21.All eyes were on a new member of the Dunlop racing dynasty,
:18:22. > :18:25.Gary Dunlop, son of five-time world champion the late Joey Dunlop,
:18:26. > :18:28.has this season joined the road racing ranks.
:18:29. > :18:35.He followed William and Michael Dunlop, sons of Robert
:18:36. > :18:38.onto the grid on the national scene. This is just his third road race
:18:39. > :18:41.and he is enjoying every moment between the hedges.
:18:42. > :18:43.Road racing, has that put a smile on your face.
:18:44. > :18:55.I didn't enjoy it. I had a bad day yesterday.
:18:56. > :18:57.I could not get into it, I was not feeling it.
:18:58. > :19:00.Everything sort of clicked. It was perfect.
:19:01. > :19:02.Everything sort of clicked. leaders at one stage.
:19:03. > :19:04.I came from about seven behind, up to second or third.
:19:05. > :19:07.My visor steamed up and I over shot it.
:19:08. > :19:10.The fact that I was up there, I felt that was pretty good.
:19:11. > :19:12.You did a bit of short racing this year for the first time,
:19:13. > :19:16.why do you decide to take things more seriously?
:19:17. > :19:20.I am still not taking it as serious. It is a bit of fun, but you get
:19:21. > :19:22.a bit competitive out there. It is something I always wanted
:19:23. > :19:28.to do but the time was not right before.
:19:29. > :19:32.A couple of people talked to me, someone said that I was a bit scared
:19:33. > :19:34.of doing it and I wanted to prove them wrong.
:19:35. > :19:41.Gary Dunlop continuing a famous family tradition

:19:51. > :19:51.They are back on the grid, make it two out of two.
:19:52. > :19:54.Conditions continue to improve at Cookstown and therefore we should
:19:55. > :19:57.see lap speeds increase on what we saw in the
:19:58. > :20:00.earlier invitation race. James Cowton makes his way
:20:01. > :20:05.to his position, which is alongside William Dunlop on the road.
:20:06. > :20:11.William Dunlop 's machine getting a lot of attention.
:20:12. > :20:14.But they are clearing the grid now. Bumper crowd as always for this
:20:15. > :20:17.meeting and they are about to be entertained again by the 600s,
:20:18. > :20:21.Jordan with McGhee alongside him. Away they go.
:20:22. > :20:27.Everyone away cleanly, but some barging.
:20:28. > :20:30.Paul Jordan concedes first to Derek McGhee.
:20:31. > :20:36.This long blast out to Gortin. Jordan hits the anchors early.
:20:37. > :20:41.They are all bunched up. This is tight.
:20:42. > :20:44.But clean. That could be some move by Dan Kneen
:20:45. > :20:48.as McGhee leaves Jordan and just about keeps his front wheel down.
:20:49. > :20:52.It is firmly planted on the ground as they fly towards McAdoo.
:20:53. > :20:55.McGhee from Jordan, from Dunlop with Dan Kneen fourth.
:20:56. > :21:03.Earlier we saw William Dunlop recover from not the best of starts,
:21:04. > :21:06.to eventual victory. It is a better start
:21:07. > :21:13.from him this time. Here they come, breaking away
:21:14. > :21:16.into a group of five at the front. At the back of that is James Cowton,
:21:17. > :21:22.that is who we are looking at, pursuing Dan Kneen
:21:23. > :21:25.who is providing the pictures. Still no change in the order
:21:26. > :21:27.but Jordan right on the shoulder of McGhee on the way to Black's
:21:28. > :21:32.Jump. James Cowton is getting airtime.
:21:33. > :21:35.There he goes. Back with Jordan and the on-board
:21:36. > :21:38.camera shows how inch perfect these riders are as they take their bikes
:21:39. > :21:41.from one side of the road to the other and that

:21:46. > :21:47.Or does he? As McGhee heads back,
:21:48. > :21:54.Jordan slowed down. McGhee leaves again.
:21:55. > :21:57.Jordan just could not get the bike turned in time to protect his lead,
:21:58. > :22:00.short-lived as it was, once again Jordan hits the brakes
:22:01. > :22:07.early and that allows Dunlop up into second.
:22:08. > :22:10.It is fair to say that this is the one part of the track that
:22:11. > :22:16.Paul Jordan has not got quite right yet.
:22:17. > :22:20.Here we go, we are on board with Paul Jordan, just
:22:21. > :22:27.in behind William Dunlop. Into McAdoo.
:22:28. > :22:30.Derek McGhee still ahead. This is Jordan, up alongside Dunlop.
:22:31. > :22:36.He is getting onto the front wheel, he is getting on the power as well.
:22:37. > :22:42.Dunlop... Jordan concedes, I should say.
:22:43. > :22:44.James Cowton and Dan Kneen, perhaps he is pleased with how
:22:45. > :22:55.he got off the grid. They are right on the back wheels
:22:56. > :22:58.of the leaders going into Gortin. There is Dunlop, good recovery
:22:59. > :23:01.from Dan Kneen having been passed by James Cowton,
:23:02. > :23:04.he retook the position. Craigmount and Jordan out
:23:05. > :23:07.of his seat and that lets Dan Kneen through.
:23:08. > :23:10.Yes it does. Moment for Paul Jordan,
:23:11. > :23:14.that has shaken him up. His rhythm has gone.
:23:15. > :23:19.James Cowton goes ahead into fourth. Twitch from Dunlop.
:23:20. > :23:22.Less than a second and a half covering the top five,
:23:23. > :23:23.but keep an eye on William Dunlop as he goes to the outside
:23:24. > :23:27.of Derek McGhee. as he goes to the outside
:23:28. > :23:32.He opts for the long way around at Gortin, but it
:23:33. > :23:39.He opts for the long way around McGhee is just too good.
:23:40. > :23:43.This is Paul Jordan 's moment again. Bike goes out of shape and he loses
:23:44. > :23:46.momentum and Dan Kneen profits. Going much better this time.
:23:47. > :23:56.Dunlop just tucked in behind McGhee and again.
:23:57. > :24:07.Little puff of blue smoke, nothing to worry about. William Dunlop is
:24:08. > :24:13.looking to sneak up the inside at McAdoo and he has gone for it and
:24:14. > :24:25.got him, are overtake manoeuvre at McAdoo, well done, Dunlop. Has gone
:24:26. > :24:29.on at Orritor. William Dunlop looks behind him and will be pleased. Paul
:24:30. > :24:37.Jordan still in fifth, but he looks to have settled for that now. The
:24:38. > :24:46.black and yellow last lap flag is waiting for William Dunlop. Dan
:24:47. > :24:50.Kneen on McGhee. Yes it is. He keeps his line and holes on, Dan Kneen is
:24:51. > :24:59.up to second as they begin the last lap. McGhee wants that place back
:25:00. > :25:06.and he might just get it. Here he goes, up the inside off Dan Kneen.
:25:07. > :25:11.They are side-by-side into Gortin. That was almost a case of after you,
:25:12. > :25:21.no, after you from McGhee and Dan Kneen. Cookstown victory number 13
:25:22. > :25:27.awaits William Dunlop, two more than Joey or Robert and for more than
:25:28. > :25:31.brother Michael. Dan Kneen can come and do my lawn if he wants, he is
:25:32. > :25:40.getting quite good at that. Dunlop getting cheered on by the fans. This
:25:41. > :25:44.will be there are 115th Irish road race victory in the career of Dunlop
:25:45. > :25:51.over a period of 11 years. Derek McGhee and Dan Kneen given a plenty.
:25:52. > :25:55.First goes to Dunlop. It is McGhee second but only just from Dan Kneen.
:25:56. > :26:02.Another win for William Dunlop from the second row of the grid, only
:26:03. > :26:06.Robert and Julie and Ryan Farquhar have won warm races on the Irish
:26:07. > :26:16.roads than this man. Another remarkable feat for this popular
:26:17. > :26:21.rider. -- Joey. Less than four seconds covering the top for riders
:26:22. > :26:30.with James Calton trailing, McGhee is second and Dunlop is first.
:26:31. > :26:37.Congratulations, another very patient ride and an excellent
:26:38. > :26:41.victory. Yes, we got to go once again. It is thanks to the team, a
:26:42. > :26:47.brilliant job, and the engine is just, it is just a fun nominal bike.
:26:48. > :26:55.It is a double day of victory from William Dunlop. Next up is the
:26:56. > :26:58.Supertwins, a class which always produces plenty of close racing, and
:26:59. > :27:03.perhaps the rider to look out for on the front row is Malachi
:27:04. > :27:08.Mitchell-Thomas. In his debut here, but he is making quite an impact.
:27:09. > :27:21.COMMENTATOR: Paul Jordan is alongside, Malachi Mitchell-Thomas
:27:22. > :27:26.in the fourth race, and Derek Shiels gets a cracking start. Shiels is
:27:27. > :27:32.going to take the lead from road to. They go down towards Gortin, and
:27:33. > :27:37.they must be three abreast as they come down. The second wave gets
:27:38. > :27:40.away, Steve McKnight hasn't got the best of starts, and meanwhile it is
:27:41. > :27:48.getting very fraught and hectic Dan Gortin. They squeeze their way
:27:49. > :27:51.through these tight, twisty Cookstown roads. Shiels leads, Opel
:27:52. > :28:06.in second. On board with Malachi
:28:07. > :28:11.Mitchell-Thomas on the Cookstown Burrows engineering Kawasaki.
:28:12. > :28:18.Malachi Mitchell-Thomas was looking as if he was going to make a move.
:28:19. > :28:25.So, Mitchell Thomas is in third position ahead of Paul Jordan, James
:28:26. > :28:30.Cowton just behind, and 55, popping his wheel, is Scott Campbell.
:28:31. > :28:41.Derek Sheils takes a good look behind him. Michael Guigou ball, the
:28:42. > :28:46.Czech rider, in second, Malachi Thomas in third. That is how it will
:28:47. > :28:55.look at the top of the leaderboard in the opening lap. Derek Shiels
:28:56. > :28:58.keeps it over to the right hand side, anticipating any attack should
:28:59. > :29:01.it come, but Malachi Mitchell-Thomas is looking to take
:29:02. > :29:07.it come, but Malachi Mitchell-Thomas go. He left it too late on the
:29:08. > :29:08.brakes, but thought that pitch just as he got overturned.
:29:09. > :29:12.brakes, but thought that pitch just better of it now. For a moment I
:29:13. > :29:17.thought he better of it now. For a moment I
:29:18. > :29:27.first place. Still five riders in this, Derek Sheils not getting away.
:29:28. > :29:45.Mackney. So he goes into second, and Michael Dukopil goes back to third.
:29:46. > :29:52.96 is Andy Farrell. So, here they come to cross the line.
:29:53. > :29:59.That is Malachi Mitchell-Thomas, goes through an Derek Shiels, who
:30:00. > :30:02.has the inside line, but I don't think he has the place back, has
:30:03. > :30:09.set? Oh, he has. He takes the think he has the place back, has
:30:10. > :30:12.Mitchell-Thomas, and we have a cracker here, folks. Mitchell Thomas
:30:13. > :30:20.hits back cracker here, folks. Mitchell Thomas
:30:21. > :30:26.McAdoo. Mitchell Hodges back in -- Mitchell Thomas is back in, he is
:30:27. > :30:32.hot, but he turns in time. Around the Orritor Crossroads they go,
:30:33. > :30:35.trying to get speed on the exodus they can out of the slipstream of
:30:36. > :30:41.Mitchell Thomas. Try to carry it passed down towards Gortin, and it
:30:42. > :30:45.looks like they could be side-by-side, although they are all
:30:46. > :30:49.going back into single file again, are they? Mitchell Thomas holds that
:30:50. > :30:52.line on the inside, defends that position, as long as he turns in
:30:53. > :30:57.time, and he turns in time, Andy Dales. Oh, and a mistake therefore
:30:58. > :31:02.Derek Shiels, that has dropped back to fifth place. He
:31:03. > :31:06.Derek Shiels, that has dropped back power again now. He threw the dice,
:31:07. > :31:14.and it didn't come off. Mitchell Thomas stayed brave, Derek Shiels
:31:15. > :31:19.still in the race, and this is that moment again. The road belongs to
:31:20. > :31:23.Mitchell Thomas, Shiels commits almost and just runs out of road,
:31:24. > :31:29.tucks it in if anything just a little too tightly.
:31:30. > :31:37.Derek Shiels just losing the total top four. Now, Dukopil could be
:31:38. > :31:43.about to lose third place. top four. Now, Dukopil could be
:31:44. > :31:51.looking at Malachi Mitchell-Thomas as they go around Orritor. He takes
:31:52. > :31:58.the chequered flag, it is victory for Malachi Mitchell-Thomas, what a
:31:59. > :32:01.fairy story. James Cowton second, Dukopil in third. Confirmation of
:32:02. > :32:13.those results: Malachi, congratulations, how do you
:32:14. > :32:20.feel about that confidence boosting win? It was good, I didn't get a
:32:21. > :32:24.cracking start, I was down to fifth, so I had to battle all the boys to
:32:25. > :32:30.get it. Podium time, Malachi Mitchell-Thomas on the top step.
:32:31. > :32:32.The final race on the day as the Cookstown 100. Through the years,
:32:33. > :32:39.the winners' roll of honour is like a Who's Who of racing. So who will
:32:40. > :32:41.be crowned the Cookstown 100 champion this year?
:32:42. > :32:49.COMMENTATOR: There is only one rider on the grid who has won this race
:32:50. > :32:57.before, William Dunlop, on route to fit this one. -- on the second row
:32:58. > :33:03.for this one. There is a gap on the front row where Michael Sweeney's
:33:04. > :33:09.bike should be, and Malachi Mitchell-Thomas will be hoping to
:33:10. > :33:12.take that place. He is pushing into fourth place by the looks of things,
:33:13. > :33:16.and the second wave should be about to get away, here they go. Paul
:33:17. > :33:19.Jordan on 22, and that is who we to get away, here they go. Paul
:33:20. > :33:24.hitch a ride with now on the run down to Gortin Corner. Sorting
:33:25. > :33:30.themselves out, but it is definitely Shiels who leaves, McGee, and
:33:31. > :33:35.Malachi Mitchell-Thomas in third, unable to take advantage. That is
:33:36. > :33:43.the case. As usual, it is all very frantic on this opening lap of
:33:44. > :33:49.eight. The second we visited Gortin, and down goes Paul Jordan. He is
:33:50. > :33:54.quickly on his feet again. Derek Shiels is employing that X, and that
:33:55. > :33:57.is, get away from the rest of the field as quickly as possible. McGee
:33:58. > :34:03.second, Mitchell Thomas third, Dunlop fourth. He brakes hard in
:34:04. > :34:07.anticipation, Paul Jordan, thinking you might run into the back of the
:34:08. > :34:11.bike in front of him, and that unfortunately is the end of his
:34:12. > :34:15.race. Derek Sheils is had some impressive results of Cookstown over
:34:16. > :34:22.the years. He has had a few podiums, he won this race two years ago. He
:34:23. > :34:27.lost out to Guy Martin last year. But it looks like it is going to be
:34:28. > :34:31.a second victory out of three in the Cookstown 100 championship race the
:34:32. > :34:37.Derek Shiels. This is a really impressive performance. We are
:34:38. > :34:46.riding with Dan Kneen, who is handing William Dunlop.
:34:47. > :34:56.So, here they go, then, into Gortin, Mitchell Thomas on the back wheel,
:34:57. > :34:59.just sliding it in. Dan Kneen still behind William Dunlop, still no
:35:00. > :35:04.position changes in the top five just yet. Dan Kneen does look very
:35:05. > :35:10.threatening, though. William Dunlop just squeezes ahead of him.
:35:11. > :35:20.Dan Kneen taking it to the edgy game to get out of McAdoo. Not far to go
:35:21. > :35:24.for Derek Shiels, but this battle to second place still goes on, Derek
:35:25. > :35:31.McGee looks like he has got it. Dan Kneen has made a background again,
:35:32. > :35:37.having lost out to William Dunlop. S so, Derek Shiels, around, he will
:35:38. > :35:41.see the black and yellow flag, Mitchell Thomas goes through an
:35:42. > :35:43.Derek McGee, who Mitchell Thomas goes through an
:35:44. > :35:49.makes a mistake, picks it back up. Dan Kneen might get back past, he
:35:50. > :36:01.reacted to Derek McGee. It is all change. So, here we go on the last
:36:02. > :36:07.lap, Derek Shiels into Gortin, and you cannot take your eyes off this
:36:08. > :36:12.one. So, then, Mitchell Thomas from Dan Kneen, McGee from Dunlop, Dunlop
:36:13. > :36:16.looking very close to Derek McGee. What a mistake from Derek McGee, he
:36:17. > :36:22.had a podium in his hand, and he may have threaded away. -- thrown it
:36:23. > :36:33.away. Dunlop now trying to get past. Round McAdoo. Shiels is through, and
:36:34. > :36:36.I think we are looking at second and third there, Malachi Mitchell-Thomas
:36:37. > :36:37.and Dan Kneen unless Dan Kneen has something very special up his
:36:38. > :36:46.sleeve. Now, then, Dan Kneen, there is still
:36:47. > :36:50.an opportunity for him out of Craigmount. That is where we come up
:36:51. > :36:56.to now, the rear wheel goes right therefore Malachi Mitchell-Thomas.
:36:57. > :37:04.Derek Shiels crosses the line, he wins the Cookstown 100, the feature
:37:05. > :37:11.race here, he is victorious. Second place, Malachi Mitchell-Thomas, and
:37:12. > :37:20.Dan Michael Dukopil in third. -- Dan Kneen in third.
:37:21. > :37:25.Derek, congratulations, that was a Cookstown masterclass. Yes, it was a
:37:26. > :37:28.good race, I got into first Cookstown masterclass. Yes, it was a
:37:29. > :37:33.and just had a controlled race from there, just kept my head down kept
:37:34. > :37:41.steady and smooth. A bit of drizzle on the visor, that was a bit
:37:42. > :37:42.unnerving at times. Well-deserved applause for Derek Shiels, winner of
:37:43. > :37:52.the Cookstown 100. applause for Derek Shiels, winner of
:37:53. > :38:03.A 1- to -- a one-two, you must be delighted. Yes, we didn't quite get
:38:04. > :38:14.the win at the last meet, but this more than makes up for it. A
:38:15. > :38:18.memorable day for the Cookstown, and the John Burrows racing team at
:38:19. > :38:23.their home event. Next up it is the Northwest 200, and every practice
:38:24. > :38:25.will be live on the website and an BBC Radio 1 lost. We also have three
:38:26. > :38:34.television specials for you: You won't miss a single thing on the
:38:35. > :38:37.BBC. I look forward to seeing you on the grid, until then, from
:38:38. > :38:39.Cookstown, it is goodbye.
