:00:54. > :01:01.The spectacular Causeway Coast is home to one of Northern Ireland's
:01:02. > :01:06.biggest, fastest and most exciting sporting events, the International
:01:07. > :01:11.North West 200. Welcome to our third highlights programme from this year
:01:12. > :01:15.'s motor cycling festival. There's been some fantastic racing so far.
:01:16. > :01:26.Here's a reminder of what's happened. Would you look at that?
:01:27. > :01:35.There it is, Jessop gets his first north-west wind. -- win. Oh no!
:01:36. > :01:48.Alastair Seeley, there's the chequered flag.
:01:49. > :02:00.He's in the dirt. Martin Jessopp, his second Northwest 200 win.
:02:01. > :02:08.Oh no! Does it again, he's untouchable.
:02:09. > :02:23.First Superbike race of the weekend. Unbelievable. Alastair Seeley. And
:02:24. > :02:27.lots more high-speed drama coming up.
:02:28. > :02:32.We've got three more races around this unique street circuit. The
:02:33. > :02:43.SuperStock. A thrilling Superbike showdown. And a memorable battle for
:02:44. > :02:48.the smaller machines. Next up is the superb twins race and I'm joined by
:02:49. > :02:53.British Superbike rider Michael Lafferty. The first race was very,
:02:54. > :02:59.very competitive, how do you see the second race panning out? Mike Jessop
:03:00. > :03:03.looked really strong, Daniel Cooper looked strong, Lintin hasn't shown
:03:04. > :03:07.the pacey showed last year yet. It could be a mixed bag. Weather
:03:08. > :03:15.conditions will be critical because of the tyre choices. Lee Johnston
:03:16. > :03:20.said he wanted full wets and the other wanted drive. It will be a
:03:21. > :03:27.mixed bag. Time to join our commentary team. Richard Nichols and
:03:28. > :03:30.Steve Parish. The grid forming up for the second
:03:31. > :03:59.super twin race of the week. The track is drying out. Wet tyre on
:04:00. > :04:05.number 20. Michael Rutter... Lee Johnston had a bit of a moment as
:04:06. > :04:13.well off the line. There are wet patches. Looking back for Martin
:04:14. > :04:19.Jessopp. No wonder is close to Rutter, not even Martin Jessopp.
:04:20. > :04:27.Rutter knows the conditions a fair bit as he gets away. He has 13 winds
:04:28. > :04:30.around the North West 200. We are with Paul Jordan. The track is
:04:31. > :04:37.drying out all the time, getting better and better. Number 100 in the
:04:38. > :04:43.mix. Barry Ferber got away best. No wonder is getting way in this.
:04:44. > :04:46.Certainly not. We are with James Calton. Lee Johnston on the Quay are
:04:47. > :05:03.machines, another 13. Very busy at the end of that run.
:05:04. > :05:08.Michael Rutter has made the break. I wonder if he can make this stick? It
:05:09. > :05:14.would be good if he could. 13 victories around here but the last
:05:15. > :05:18.one was five years ago. He is ready for one. Daniel Cooper has the wet
:05:19. > :05:21.tyre on the front, should be good at the beginning but I'm not jock at
:05:22. > :05:26.the end because the track is drying out. Everybody trying to look at
:05:27. > :05:37.each other's tyres. Everybody hates those conditions. Everybody more
:05:38. > :05:44.less on the setting apart from... Losing a load of time. Closing down
:05:45. > :05:48.Michael Rutter. Slipstreaming past that machine of Michael Rutter.
:05:49. > :05:54.Cooper thinks he's got to make his move now while the track is as wet
:05:55. > :06:01.at -- as it is while the wet tyre gives him an advantage. Rutter is a
:06:02. > :06:07.maestro in the rain. He is, and he has the right tyres. Intermediate
:06:08. > :06:12.tyres. A few tread grooves in them. Lee Johnston still hanging in at the
:06:13. > :06:19.back, he broke down in the first race. Jessopp, the winner from
:06:20. > :06:26.Thursday night. Was that Cowton behind him or Johnston? We with
:06:27. > :06:32.Cooper. Last year he was involved in the Ryan Farquhar crashed and didn't
:06:33. > :06:41.write here. I think Lee Johnston is closing down the gap touch. Cooper
:06:42. > :06:47.gives us the ride. Rutter is in the lead. Jessopp is in touch. There's
:06:48. > :06:52.nobody behind in fourth place, or there is, but there's a huge gap.
:06:53. > :07:00.Rutter using all the road. Up to fourth gear as they go down through
:07:01. > :07:10.here. They dropped down to York Corner. James Cowton is fourth. You
:07:11. > :07:14.can't quite see him at the top of the picture, just a glimpse of him
:07:15. > :07:22.out of the chicane and he's a long way back of these three. Having a
:07:23. > :07:32.look down the inside. You can't get too tight. Jessopp has the faster
:07:33. > :07:38.bike. There he goes. Martin Jessopp on cue. Look at the way he goes past
:07:39. > :07:42.those guys. They'll be having a conversation, what on earth has he
:07:43. > :07:53.got that engine? It's all about aerodynamics. They play such an
:07:54. > :07:58.important part. People try different things to see if it will give them
:07:59. > :08:03.an advantage. It seems to be working for Martin Jessopp. It does.
:08:04. > :08:10.Aerodynamics are no -- more important than engine power,
:08:11. > :08:15.realistically. Anything past 150 mph, it takes huge power to push it
:08:16. > :08:22.through the air. Drag increases with the square of speed or something
:08:23. > :08:29.like that. Computational fluid dynamics sits will know that kind of
:08:30. > :08:34.stuff! A clean bike is a quick bite. Rutter had made a break but he was
:08:35. > :08:41.reeled in quickly by the slipstream. Jessopp disappearing. Rutter is good
:08:42. > :08:47.on the Coast Road, on these parts, and he'll be building up his
:08:48. > :08:53.confidence. Ivan Lintin is out. He's had enough. Did he run deep? Maybe
:08:54. > :09:03.ran deep. Rutter goes down the inside. He squeezes himself down the
:09:04. > :09:06.inside. It would be lovely for Ryan Farquhar, the nightmares he's gone
:09:07. > :09:11.through with his accident, if he still puts a good team together.
:09:12. > :09:16.This bike has been put together a specially for Michael Rutter. It was
:09:17. > :09:26.originally going to be ridden by Hudson Kenner, but Rutter has it.
:09:27. > :09:29.The Coast Road, the experience of Michael Rutter. Jessopp and Rutter
:09:30. > :09:36.are old rivals, they know each other's style very well. Rutter has
:09:37. > :09:42.just under nine miles to go. I think there would be more passing going
:09:43. > :09:48.on. Jessopp will be able to get past Rutter down the straight. Of the
:09:49. > :09:53.Coast Road counts on the last lap. Jessopp already building. Will he
:09:54. > :10:03.drag banged Cooper with him? -- Daniel Cooper. There's that
:10:04. > :10:09.invisible pocket of air you can get into. Cooper getting 80 as well.
:10:10. > :10:16.Rutter getting a better one from Jessop. Rutter pulls out of the
:10:17. > :10:23.slipstream and tea will break last and latest and longest.
:10:24. > :10:30.Cooper saw that and nipped through. Rutter back in front. Cooper in
:10:31. > :10:42.second and Jessopp a little way back. Then the Coast Road again.
:10:43. > :10:52.There's this one, in fact four, because they go up towards the
:10:53. > :10:57.chicane now. They do slipstream on the Coast Road. That's how powerful
:10:58. > :11:04.these bikes have become. They have so much power. When you were racing
:11:05. > :11:12.here you didn't have this kind of power at your disposal. We didn't.
:11:13. > :11:18.And we didn't have as many chicanes. We called it the nine mile triangle.
:11:19. > :11:24.We went even further to the hairpin and then back. There's arguably just
:11:25. > :11:29.one place for the Jessopp to use the speed of the bike. I'm not sure if
:11:30. > :11:34.he is close enough. It's all about this section. Michael Rutter looks
:11:35. > :11:40.like he's got it. Looks like he will take his 14th win. He doesn't
:11:41. > :11:45.normally make any mistakes. Is he going to get that victory after five
:11:46. > :11:51.years drought? Everybody thinks the own, they are cheering him on. This
:11:52. > :11:55.would be a popular win. Over the line ahead of Daniel Cooper. Martin
:11:56. > :12:06.Jessopp third. There's the confirmation.
:12:07. > :12:16.Absolutely amazing, proper ride. I tried so hard. I didn't want to lose
:12:17. > :12:20.that one. Martin's bike is so fast. I had to hold him up a bit and
:12:21. > :12:27.getting his slipstream at the right time and somehow it paid off. After
:12:28. > :12:32.what you went through last year, to come back and put this team together
:12:33. > :12:36.and get this victory must be very, very special. So emotional, I'm
:12:37. > :12:44.trying not to cry. I've been to hell and back. Only Karen knows what I've
:12:45. > :12:49.been through. Every month I'm getting stronger. Karen has helped
:12:50. > :12:54.me. All my mates. Everybody has chipped in to make this possible.
:12:55. > :13:02.I'm so pleased, it means the world to me. Michael Rutter proving that
:13:03. > :13:08.experience counts around the north-west. Next up, the SuperStock
:13:09. > :13:14.stop Alastair Seeley no doubt will favourite again. Indeed. He'll be
:13:15. > :13:20.looking to get off the treble Marco. He's only ever won three in a day of
:13:21. > :13:24.this is his opportunity to make it four. I can see Ian Hutchinson being
:13:25. > :13:32.a big challenge. He's had a quiet day. These machines go almost as
:13:33. > :13:42.quick as the Superbikes. Sometimes over 200 mph. Unbelievably so. The
:13:43. > :13:49.lap time Alistair did in the first race was only .7 of a second off the
:13:50. > :13:54.best at this circuit. I can see this being a fight at the front. Very
:13:55. > :13:59.interesting race. Over to Richard and Steve. Now it's
:14:00. > :14:04.fine and day and day for the SuperStock race. Still a bit damp
:14:05. > :14:06.and there's rain in the air. This is the second superstock race. He the
:14:07. > :14:29.grid. -- here is the grid. Rutter in the middle, Sealey on the
:14:30. > :14:41.outside. Who gets the start? Johnston. We ride with William
:14:42. > :14:48.Dunlop. It is Harrison with Johnston right behind him and Seeley is in
:14:49. > :14:55.third place. You can see the dark clouds above. That was a flying
:14:56. > :15:02.start from Dean Harrison. Hatch has gone deep and wide. He couldn't get
:15:03. > :15:06.it stopped. It is a bit scrabbling around there in the first corner of
:15:07. > :15:16.the race. Harrison back out in front with a good lead over Lee Johnston,
:15:17. > :15:23.who did get away well but Hutch will be kicking himself. 47 in there,
:15:24. > :15:40.Allister Coetzee. 45 going through. There's nothing like this in the
:15:41. > :15:44.Czech Republic. James Hillier, looking back. There is Michael
:15:45. > :15:53.Dunlop, the number three Suzuki. Look at this lot swarming down.
:15:54. > :16:06.Extraordinary stuff. Saiger on the number 22 bike about to be passed.
:16:07. > :16:12.So much of that going on. They punch bigger holes in the air. Number 34,
:16:13. > :16:18.Alastair Seeley, gets to the front straightaway. You can see the dark
:16:19. > :16:25.clouds. We are riding with Dean Harrison. He's had a very good North
:16:26. > :16:30.West 200, but so has Michael Rutter. A fairly widespread of performance.
:16:31. > :16:37.Hutchinson has been a demon on the brakes all week. The key is having a
:16:38. > :16:46.bike that tracks well over the bumps, stocks well and is fast. And
:16:47. > :16:49.a rider who does all that. Nothing wrong with that Silicon engineering
:16:50. > :16:58.on the cow was IT. They are just touching each other. -- Calor Zaki.
:16:59. > :17:09.Dean Harrison, make sure you stop. Disappointing for Dean Harrison. He
:17:10. > :17:20.got wrapped up in the moment. He got a bit excited. Hutch and Seeley,
:17:21. > :17:25.touchy-feely. Here they go. He was on the paint, didn't want to pull
:17:26. > :17:32.the brakes too hard in the middle-of-the-road. Imagine taking
:17:33. > :17:41.out Alastair Seeley. Is that Dan Kneen? It's not. Didn't see a
:17:42. > :17:53.number. Rutter is fast through there. Round the outside, Seeley,
:17:54. > :17:59.does he have the speed? Once again, Hutch is late on the brakes.
:18:00. > :18:03.Absolutely flying. Seeley has been the master of this course and these
:18:04. > :18:13.conditions. Break adjustment from Ian Hutchinson, in the chicane. I
:18:14. > :18:21.wonder if that was to do with him going straight on earlier.
:18:22. > :18:32.Hutch in front, Seeley third -- Seeley second. Is this the breakaway
:18:33. > :18:43.group? It looks like it. Have a look at this. The Red Arrows have nothing
:18:44. > :18:53.on these boys. Outstanding. Alastair Seeley using the slipstream,
:18:54. > :18:57.Hutchinson using the slipstream. Three abreast. Rutter trying to get
:18:58. > :19:12.through. Over the link road, up towards the
:19:13. > :19:18.roundabout. Where is Seeley? Has he got away? No. We are on board with
:19:19. > :19:27.William Dunlop. Was that Martin Jessopp rolling off? Possibly. We
:19:28. > :19:33.are now with William Dunlop. Here it is the battle for the lead, and it
:19:34. > :19:40.is a battle. Someone else down the slip road. I think that was Dan
:19:41. > :19:47.Kneen. Alastair Seeley making no mistakes. He's leading at the
:19:48. > :19:52.moment. This is a long race and he might not be informed all the time.
:19:53. > :19:58.He knows you need to be leading as you go over the line. Hutchy doesn't
:19:59. > :20:03.want that, doesn't really care about that, they will battle this out
:20:04. > :20:08.between them. Trust me, if you're on it, you would want to be, simple as
:20:09. > :20:13.that. If you see it on screen, you can really feel it on the bike.
:20:14. > :20:18.Trying to get the throttle wide open is the important part. Michael has a
:20:19. > :20:23.look over his shoulder, basically saying you can go past. Michael
:20:24. > :20:30.Dunlop gave his brother that place quite easily. But he didn't know who
:20:31. > :20:36.it was. He just has a problem. A problem with Hutchy! There's a lot
:20:37. > :20:38.of this going on this weekend and we are finding places to overtake that
:20:39. > :20:57.never used to exist before. Hutchy switches back to the inside.
:20:58. > :21:03.Seeley had a lovely sweep into the chicane. No point arguing about it
:21:04. > :21:09.on this lap, but on the last lap that might be worth fighting over. I
:21:10. > :21:15.think so. Johnston clinging onto the back of them. Rutter is still there,
:21:16. > :21:19.can't shake him off. Somebody has put something in his porridge this
:21:20. > :21:29.weekend, Michael Rutter. He's rejuvenated. Front wheel... He would
:21:30. > :21:34.have lost some time with that. It must have been Hutchy who stopped
:21:35. > :21:43.because Hillier is still going. -- it must have been Jessopp who
:21:44. > :21:50.stopped. It's all very well behaved this time. Saving themselves. Is it
:21:51. > :22:03.raining? That was an unusual slip. Horst Saiger having a wonderful day
:22:04. > :22:12.today, he loves this circuit. He charges up the inside. Michael
:22:13. > :22:17.Dunlop is not having a lovely day. But he's getting on with things. And
:22:18. > :22:22.William Dunlop has started to show us what we remember of his form. He
:22:23. > :22:28.hasn't had a lot of opportunity lately. Put that front wheel back on
:22:29. > :22:38.the ground! You have to jam on the rear brake when that happens.
:22:39. > :22:42.Rutter... Rutter is still in there. Rutter was looking for a place to
:22:43. > :22:47.get through but he couldn't find one because there are so many motorbikes
:22:48. > :22:55.in front of him. Lee Johnston goes through on the big BMW. Lee Johnston
:22:56. > :23:00.in second place at the moment, splitting Seeley and Hutchy. Hutchy
:23:01. > :23:07.now back in front with Seeley behind him and Johnston in third. Rutter in
:23:08. > :23:12.fourth. This is a great race. The bikes are so equal, they are just
:23:13. > :23:25.about all BMWs. In fact, the top five are BMW sumac. These are fairly
:23:26. > :23:36.heavily modified. They have different ignition is. Not a cheap
:23:37. > :23:48.bike. Ostensibly, standard. They go on to the coast road.
:23:49. > :23:59.This is some talent. A lot of North West 200 winners we are looking at
:24:00. > :24:09.the moment. Alastair Seeley now has 20 victories to his name, this would
:24:10. > :24:15.make it 21. They are all in this. Look how close they are. Anything
:24:16. > :24:26.could happen, anybody could win this. Across the start finish line,
:24:27. > :24:35.chicane... It will go quickly because there's no space between the
:24:36. > :24:39.five, really. It only needs a slight mistake from anyone for Hickman to
:24:40. > :24:44.be up there. The wind is still blowing as they head up towards the
:24:45. > :24:50.university. This is the left turn where they'll start heading up
:24:51. > :24:51.towards university. This is where you need all the traction control
:24:52. > :25:12.you can get. Round the roundabout. Out onto the
:25:13. > :25:16.fast part of the course. This is the speed section, through station
:25:17. > :25:19.corner. So important to get this right. It's dry enough for the guys
:25:20. > :25:29.to keep the throttle open through there.
:25:30. > :25:40.Rutter just coming through on the inside. Sneaky old boy. No room to
:25:41. > :25:50.get through! Who's that? Engine blow up. A big cloud of smoke. No oil on
:25:51. > :25:58.the track as a result. Oil and water are a bad combination. It was Andrew
:25:59. > :26:05.Duggan. Back to the front. Back on board with James Hillier looking at
:26:06. > :26:13.Harrison Brewer hide him. -- behind him.
:26:14. > :26:22.Seeley, has he made the split? I doubt it. Hutchy has got himself in
:26:23. > :26:30.the slipstream. He's good on the brakes. Ian Hutchinson having a
:26:31. > :26:39.great ride. Rain! That's not what we want. I didn't see where that
:26:40. > :26:47.umbrella was up. Lee Johnston up the inside. Banking over to the
:26:48. > :26:52.right-hand side. Looks dry. It's probably further around the course.
:26:53. > :26:57.The marshals will put out a red and yellow flag if it is raining to
:26:58. > :27:02.indicate diminished grip levels. White lines are not the place to be
:27:03. > :27:06.with diminished grip levels. Trying to keep the bikes as straight as
:27:07. > :27:15.they can. He just doesn't know when to stop, Michael Rutter. Is there
:27:16. > :27:25.rain here? The wheels of the bikes... Looking dry as they come up
:27:26. > :27:34.Juniper. Seeley leads again for the time being. Can he keep the lead?
:27:35. > :27:40.Will they let him keep the lead? Hutchy with a bit of a spill up
:27:41. > :27:47.there. Hickman is right on their tail. Definitely in it. I don't
:27:48. > :27:51.think saving countered any rain yet. I haven't seen any indication. One
:27:52. > :27:59.assumes it's not this part of the course. It must have been around
:28:00. > :28:06.station. The last place you want to see the flag out indicating rain.
:28:07. > :28:19.Seeley tucked down behind the bubble. Tom -- Hutchy, Rutter... The
:28:20. > :28:28.road looks fine. There are some spots. I don't know if that's rain
:28:29. > :28:43.on his camera. Horst Saiger still in there. It looks dry. Here comes
:28:44. > :28:57.Hutchy on the slipstream. Rutter can see the race track in front of him!
:28:58. > :29:02.Over they come. Hands are art. Hutchy wants it stopping. It's
:29:03. > :29:04.raining a lot. They are going very gingerly. That's it. It will go back
:29:05. > :29:17.a lap. That spoilt a really cracking race.
:29:18. > :29:23.You're seemingly unbeatable around here at the minute. I just like the
:29:24. > :29:30.place, I've fallen in love with it and it loves me too. Don't get
:29:31. > :29:37.jealous! Seeley's scintillating run continues. Road racing is part of
:29:38. > :29:42.Northern Ireland's sporting DNA. Tens of thousands of people flock
:29:43. > :29:47.here every year to watch their heroes compete. Why is this form of
:29:48. > :29:48.motorcycling so popular here? I caught up with two former racers to
:29:49. > :30:02.find out. It's in our heritage. Road racing is
:30:03. > :30:09.Northern Ireland. We just love racing. You can say what you like, I
:30:10. > :30:13.could ride around Silverstone all week long, it would never give you
:30:14. > :30:20.the same satisfaction as the North West 200. The speeds, the hedges
:30:21. > :30:27.flashing by. The craziness, I guess. The madness. These roads are closed,
:30:28. > :30:39.they all go one way and you are racing on them.
:30:40. > :30:47.Joey Dunlop, multi-F1 world champion. You never forget him, a
:30:48. > :30:53.fag in his mouth, greasy hands, working on his bike, engine in the
:30:54. > :30:59.van. I'd be thinking, he won't be a threat. He would put it together and
:31:00. > :31:05.we never saw which way he went. The Dunlop name is known worldwide. I'd
:31:06. > :31:14.be world down the street in Japan with Joey Dunlop and hundreds of
:31:15. > :31:24.people would appear. He was rather special and such is smooth and
:31:25. > :31:30.stylish rider. I've raced against some of the best road races in the
:31:31. > :31:37.world. And Carl Fogarty, King of the jungle. The hairs on the back of my
:31:38. > :31:48.neck stand up when I see the pack head.
:31:49. > :32:01.They are doing 208 mph. It's hard to blame to anyone. Look at the fans
:32:02. > :32:08.that come here. 100,000 people. The North West 200 is where I've made my
:32:09. > :32:14.name. I came here in 1992, wanting to win races. I did something no one
:32:15. > :32:21.else ever did, I won five international road races in one day.
:32:22. > :32:27.Alastair Seeley sensational once again and he now chases another
:32:28. > :32:31.record. He will try an equal Bismah Maroof Philip McCallum's record of
:32:32. > :32:36.winning five North West 200 in a single event. Do you think he can
:32:37. > :32:42.equal your record? I think he can. He's riding superb. He's master
:32:43. > :32:48.today this. Andy Goodwin five in an event. But Steven, I won fired in a
:32:49. > :32:53.day. You will still have the bragging rights? I will. It is four
:32:54. > :32:57.today, hopefully he will be aiming for that and one on Thursday. There
:32:58. > :33:01.is one man who will cause him big trouble today and that is Glenn
:33:02. > :33:08.Irwin. I really think Alistair's biggest rival in this race will be
:33:09. > :33:13.Glenn Irving. -- Glenn Irwin. This is their biggest race of the week,
:33:14. > :33:16.North West 200. Sit back and enjoy. COMMENTATOR: The final race of the
:33:17. > :33:24.day. We've been waiting a long time for this. Glenn Irwin on the front
:33:25. > :33:31.row with Alastair Seeley. Slick tyres. Dunlop, Dunlop and
:33:32. > :33:35.Hutchinson. William Dunlop has come on strong this afternoon. And James
:33:36. > :33:40.Hillier. Lee Johnston on the Honda, and of course the rest of the guys
:33:41. > :33:44.getting ready for the lights to go out. Who will get the best start as
:33:45. > :33:49.the Turner gets underway question what this is the feature race, the
:33:50. > :33:56.big one. It is a cracking start from Glenn Irwin. We ride with Dan
:33:57. > :34:01.Shields. Number two, Glenn Irwin on the Ducati gets out on front. Only
:34:02. > :34:05.11 laps to practice, this will be like a big practice session. Michael
:34:06. > :34:10.Rutter showing he is still up for this. In second place now. Glenn
:34:11. > :34:15.Irwin almost pulling away from him as they go round your corner. Tyres
:34:16. > :34:18.coming up to temperature as we ride with Martin Jessopp. Climbing up the
:34:19. > :34:24.hill towards the Mill Road roundabout. It is that man Glenn
:34:25. > :34:28.Irwin. He has had a second year in Supersport, first time on a
:34:29. > :34:41.Superbike here. This is a proper tool, this machine. Look behind, 182
:34:42. > :34:46.of the line is Denis. Back on board with Martin Jessopp. There is Ian
:34:47. > :34:55.Hutchinson charging past on the Tyco BMW. Trying to get in the slipstream
:34:56. > :35:02.of Michael Rutter. And it does. Both BMWs there. It is still Glenn Irwin.
:35:03. > :35:07.Jessop goes through there. Alastair Seeley, he has a sniff on these
:35:08. > :35:10.guys, has the magnets on. Alastair Seeley isn't worried about being
:35:11. > :35:14.this far back this early in the race but doesn't like to fall a long way
:35:15. > :35:19.back. They run down towards the braking zone. Is he going to do
:35:20. > :35:24.another one on brakes? Not really close enough. Not really. This is a
:35:25. > :35:29.seven lap race, nearly 70 miles of racing on these roads around here.
:35:30. > :35:33.The crowds are loving this one. They've all dried out nicely and are
:35:34. > :35:37.ready for this big race. It's been awhile since we had a form race like
:35:38. > :35:44.this with this kind of talent in it. Great Ducati's here. The rain has
:35:45. > :35:49.come and gone during the day, it has left the circuit patchy but it is OK
:35:50. > :35:54.for racing on. We have got a full race in front of you. We are just
:35:55. > :35:58.coming to the race of the first of those seven laps and Glenn Irwin,
:35:59. > :36:02.surprising a lot of people... Is this Bruce Anstey going slowly or
:36:03. > :36:07.still on the pace? He is still on the pace. He has had a torrid time
:36:08. > :36:12.of things so far. The Honda has not been working for him but it is
:36:13. > :36:18.working for this man. Hutchinson, sliding into the corners using the
:36:19. > :36:22.rear brakes. Sealey neat and tidy. Michael Dunlop on the big Suzuki,
:36:23. > :36:29.number three, first time out for that bike. 1000 R, very powerful.
:36:30. > :36:39.Michael Dunlop a formidable competitor. Hutchinson is the man
:36:40. > :36:42.behind them. Glenn Irwin, should he be doing this? Alastair Seeley does
:36:43. > :36:47.on this to happen, does he? He has his sights on this bid of equalling
:36:48. > :36:53.the record of winds that are North West 200, even if he can't do it in
:36:54. > :36:56.a single day. At the time he is tracking James Hillier with Michael
:36:57. > :37:02.Rutter breathing down his neck. Irwin is the way up the road. Very
:37:03. > :37:07.much so. Sealey far through station corner. He will be tracking Jessop,
:37:08. > :37:11.as you can see. Closing. I think he is going to pass him. He does. Look
:37:12. > :37:16.at the way he is fighting that bike. Only a little guide that he is
:37:17. > :37:21.tenacious. It's got himself through station corner, going absolutely
:37:22. > :37:25.full on, about 185 miles an hour. There is Jessop in the slipstream.
:37:26. > :37:27.The front wheel comes up in the air. The wind starts getting under it, he
:37:28. > :37:41.climbs up to the bikes, pushing himself up
:37:42. > :37:43.off the foot rest, trying to get his weight there. Jessop looking for the
:37:44. > :37:46.inside line as they come to the braking zone. Rutter has two bikes
:37:47. > :37:50.in front of him but he goes round them. Is a demon on the brakes.
:37:51. > :37:53.On-board Jessop. It is Rutter. Get past those guys into third but Glenn
:37:54. > :38:01.Irwin was still leading. Ian Hutchinson, right on his back wheel.
:38:02. > :38:06.This is super bikes for the price of a 600, they are scrapping like
:38:07. > :38:10.circuit races. Hutchinson, late on the brakes. Is he going to get it
:38:11. > :38:18.stopped? He slams it down in front of Glenn Irwin. Almost sideswiped in
:38:19. > :38:24.going through. A very committed pass. A committed overtake from
:38:25. > :38:28.Glenn Irwin. Here is the replay. Slithering and sliding. This is
:38:29. > :38:33.short circuit racing. You can see the little clip off. Here he goes in
:38:34. > :38:38.the slipstream. Glenn Irwin late on the brakes. Very, very late on the
:38:39. > :38:42.brakes. This time Hutchinson didn't have a chance as they go to the
:38:43. > :38:45.chicane. Glenn Irwin through the chicanes have so much confidence
:38:46. > :38:52.that Ducati. Look how much he stretches himself on the exit. Get
:38:53. > :38:58.on the power and use that rear tyre. Manage the chicane very cleanly MED.
:38:59. > :39:01.Back on board with Martin Jessopp. Here is Glenn Irwin with Hutchinson
:39:02. > :39:06.behind him, Hutchinson is going to follow him around. Both of those
:39:07. > :39:16.right on the last inch of braking zone. They couldn't have left that
:39:17. > :39:19.any later. They couldn't. As I said, that Suzuki is brand-new. Hutchinson
:39:20. > :39:24.doing everything he can to cling on the back of the Ducati right now.
:39:25. > :39:32.And again, every time of the corners use the Glenn Irwin in that Ducati,
:39:33. > :39:37.a twin cylinder, lots of torque and grip. Using every bit of his skill
:39:38. > :39:41.he's got coming off bursts corners. Let's see what Michael Dunlop has...
:39:42. > :39:47.Going down the inside, is he going to squeeze through? Not this time.
:39:48. > :39:52.Sealey now in third place. Alastair Seeley has really got to get a move
:39:53. > :40:02.on. The other two are scooting off up the road. Glenn Irwin, his deadly
:40:03. > :40:06.rival... What a shame. Bruce is out. Terrible day for Bruce Anstey.
:40:07. > :40:12.Martin Jessopp still in the middle of this but what we want is the is
:40:13. > :40:17.if Seeley... Dunlop goes passed easily in the slipstream. Closing
:40:18. > :40:21.and closing any has that speed through their very much so. He will
:40:22. > :40:24.be going past in a minute. Dunlop, I'm sure, Michael Dunlop will be
:40:25. > :40:28.pleased with this Suzuki's performance. They are trying to get
:40:29. > :40:32.this bike sorted out. Most importantly, this is the battle for
:40:33. > :40:36.the lead. Look at them, fighting the bikes. When they get in the dirty
:40:37. > :40:40.air, it start upsetting the bike and they start wriggling around. Glenn
:40:41. > :40:44.Irwin's bike seems to wriggle around on its own. Not the best handling
:40:45. > :40:48.bike out there but he is youthful enough to fight it. They have all
:40:49. > :40:53.done a bit of wriggling in the course of these last few laps. On
:40:54. > :40:56.board with Martin Jessopp, looking back at Peter Hickman. I think
:40:57. > :41:02.Dunlop is away and up the road. So is Glenn Irwin. Alastair Seeley is
:41:03. > :41:07.coming. You work together, probably won't want to work together. Seeley
:41:08. > :41:11.using the slipstream, charging down there. Same deal, coming up towards
:41:12. > :41:14.the coast road. Who will be the fastest? I think Glenn Irwin is
:41:15. > :41:20.learning every single lap what this bike is doing. He only had 11 laps
:41:21. > :41:26.practice prior to this race. Every single lap years working out where
:41:27. > :41:34.the line and grip is. Irwin, Seeley, Hutchinson. These three are close
:41:35. > :41:37.enough together. Any of them could win it. They could cross the line
:41:38. > :41:42.almost side by side the way they are going at the moment. Irwin, a bit of
:41:43. > :41:47.a shock to everyone, I think. Especially Alastair Seeley. Nobody
:41:48. > :41:55.expected someone... Hutchinson! Slides it in a really -- and really
:41:56. > :42:01.aggressive on the rear brake. Hutchinson broke that left leg badly
:42:02. > :42:07.and has shifted to a right shift. Mr get coming out of the chicane. If
:42:08. > :42:11.Rutter can capitalise remains to be seen. Irwin hasn't seen as much of
:42:12. > :42:18.this racetrack as of them. Alastair Seeley has won 18 times and an 18
:42:19. > :42:22.laps, and now he is out in front. There is the replay of Hutchinson
:42:23. > :42:29.slithering in their nicely. And again, wriggling around. Very, very
:42:30. > :42:33.fast. Rather nervous. It comes Hutchinson on Seeley, this will help
:42:34. > :42:39.them both pull up towards. You can see them closing on Glenn Irwin. One
:42:40. > :42:43.either side. Surely. He is holding onto it. He is. I think it is
:42:44. > :42:49.arguably the most powerful bike here today. I think it is probably the
:42:50. > :42:55.slip wrist. Look at that, like red arrows formation. He is up to his
:42:56. > :43:01.elbows in it, Glenn Irwin. Hutchinson and Seeley side-by-side
:43:02. > :43:06.that he is so cool. Michael Rutter is not done with yet. Number 11 on
:43:07. > :43:10.the back of this four. Just behind them is Michael Dunlop. We have a
:43:11. > :43:14.long, long way to go for this race yet. Wouldn't want to put any money
:43:15. > :43:19.on anyone at this moment in time. Seeley looking for another win. That
:43:20. > :43:25.would give him his maximum amount of wins here on any occasion. But a lot
:43:26. > :43:32.of work to do. It would upset Philip McCallum if he did it. A long way to
:43:33. > :43:37.go yet. Glenn Erwin. If you can sit moving from here, trust me, if you
:43:38. > :43:42.were on it would horrendous. It starts barking around. It look so
:43:43. > :43:48.balanced by comparison... Desperately late on the brakes. When
:43:49. > :43:51.that we'll came down it was locked up and went sideways. Look, again
:43:52. > :44:01.trying to get on the power, trying to put that 200 and odd horsepower
:44:02. > :44:04.on the break. And now again, you can see him fighting, the big exhaust
:44:05. > :44:08.pipe sticking out the back and rattling around everywhere. On board
:44:09. > :44:14.with Martin Jessopp, very calm and collected. These boys all ought to
:44:15. > :44:20.be behaving like grown-ups. . Not at all. There goes Dean Harrison down
:44:21. > :44:23.the inside on the Kawasaki. Look at this, Hutchinson, back wheel up in
:44:24. > :44:27.the air and when it comes down, sideways. Glenn Irwin thinking he
:44:28. > :44:32.will never make it. How close was that?! Alastair Seeley on the
:44:33. > :44:36.outside not close enough. Hutcheon on the inside not close enough.
:44:37. > :44:40.Glenn Irwin, he hasn't got the experience of the others. He might
:44:41. > :44:44.not have that bike set up as neatly as they have for the high-speed
:44:45. > :44:48.straights. If he comes back next year, will know an awful lot more
:44:49. > :44:53.than he does now. He certainly will. They have found another formidable
:44:54. > :44:57.competitor here. Paul Byrd will be loving this one, I'm sure. I think
:44:58. > :45:02.Glenn Irwin is enjoying himself as well. Michael Dunlop likes winning
:45:03. > :45:06.races, but with a brand-new motorcycle, he is setting up for the
:45:07. > :45:09.season. He is probably thinking, this is coming together nicely. I
:45:10. > :45:14.would say he's very happy with his performance and where he is at the
:45:15. > :45:23.moment. With the other bikes that are sorted and fixed up. Glenn Irwin
:45:24. > :45:26.looking best of all. Seeley and Hutchinson side-by-side out of the
:45:27. > :45:32.chicane. I think Michael Dunlop is waiting for these boys to bump into
:45:33. > :45:35.each other. Or at least go up the slip road something! Glenn Irwin
:45:36. > :45:38.said he is to come here and write his BMX bike on the golf course, I
:45:39. > :45:41.know you shouldn't have done that, and dreams are coming to race here.
:45:42. > :45:50.I imagine he dreams of winning here as well. Still a long way to go. So,
:45:51. > :45:55.so fast. Look at that! He has pulled out a lead again, six or seven bike
:45:56. > :45:59.lengths in front. Seeley and Hutchinson are tripping over one
:46:00. > :46:07.another a little bit. The Ducati off the corner seems to have that
:46:08. > :46:12.advantage, that lovely growl. They Paul Lim in under braking. That is
:46:13. > :46:17.often a fast way of doing it, slow in and fast out. The important thing
:46:18. > :46:20.around the north-west is being fast on the exits. Every five miles an
:46:21. > :46:25.hour you carry from the corner you are carrying down the straight. No
:46:26. > :46:29.point trying to get into a corner too fast and then screwing it all up
:46:30. > :46:35.and not getting a good exit. Are they close enough? Yes, they are.
:46:36. > :46:39.The helicopter doing its best up there. It can't keep up, absolutely
:46:40. > :46:46.flat out. We are seeing exhaust pipes here. The big double pipes out
:46:47. > :46:52.the back of the bike. Not able to get past. It is like a formation.
:46:53. > :46:55.Erwin, foot comes down. He is punching the hole in the air and
:46:56. > :46:59.bringing them forward, they don't seem to have anything left to go
:47:00. > :47:03.past. It's like in order to go past him they need another gear they
:47:04. > :47:08.never even thought of fitting to the bikes. That they never even dreamt
:47:09. > :47:14.would be needed. The trouble is, for those guys, he is so good on the
:47:15. > :47:18.brakes, Glenn Irwin. Ray Sharp, been on the podium twice in Superbike
:47:19. > :47:23.races this year. He's on top form. I think our breaking him is going to
:47:24. > :47:27.take another of those wild dives from Hutchinson. Maybe it will be
:47:28. > :47:31.Seeley for us. Alastair Seeley has the run on in this time, on the
:47:32. > :47:37.inside for the corner. Look at it now, wriggling around. Unreal!
:47:38. > :47:42.Hutchinson again, again! CHUCKLES That was very forceful from Ian
:47:43. > :47:46.Hutchinson. There is no other way to get through and get past that
:47:47. > :47:50.machine but he definitely stuck it to Glenn Irwin. Glenn Irwin coming
:47:51. > :47:54.back at him out of the slipstream, using the power of the Ducati,
:47:55. > :47:58.alongside Ian Hutchinson. There is Hutchinson. This temple might go
:47:59. > :48:04.straight in front of him and closes the door. Inches away at 185 miles
:48:05. > :48:16.an hour. On the brakes again, Irwin jammed against the fuel tank. 1.5
:48:17. > :48:22.Gs. Michael Dunlop at about it is looking very strong. An excellent
:48:23. > :48:25.weekend at the North West 200. He has.
:48:26. > :48:36.This man we are looking at has 21 wins, Seeley. Irwin on the inside.
:48:37. > :48:40.Slithering into the corner. Is this it, is this the moment Seeley has
:48:41. > :48:43.been waiting for? Is this the moment where he goes, I'm free and clear
:48:44. > :48:47.and going to break away? That's how he likes to write his races. He will
:48:48. > :48:50.have to be very good on the coast Road to do it. I don't think there's
:48:51. > :48:56.any way he can pull away on the straights. On the corner, Glenn
:48:57. > :49:01.Irwin jams it down the inside. That might be Seeley's chicane but Glenn
:49:02. > :49:06.Irwin has taken charge of it, he has adopted it! That was stern stuff
:49:07. > :49:09.from Glenn Irwin. He is so determined, isn't he? We are looking
:49:10. > :49:13.at Derek Sheils, as you can see. Getting a good idea of how much work
:49:14. > :49:17.is going into this if you are actually in the sea doing that. Look
:49:18. > :49:22.at Glenn Irwin. I think Glenn Irwin has worked it out. If there is any
:49:23. > :49:25.chance of rain and a red flag, if it goes back a lap it will be his, I
:49:26. > :49:30.think that's what he's working out. You never know. Look at the people
:49:31. > :49:36.stood there, clapping and cheering. Trying to get some clear vision.
:49:37. > :49:41.Michael Rutter... Having a battle of their own at the back. This is just
:49:42. > :49:47.an extraordinary performance from Glenn Irwin. A Superbike rookie
:49:48. > :49:52.around here effectively. So few laps on that machine, and yet look at the
:49:53. > :49:59.way he is riding. Making Seeley right out of his skin, isn't he? --
:50:00. > :50:04.ride out of his skin? Brakes, going down through the gears going through
:50:05. > :50:09.the chicane. Seeley lady running into the back of him that time.
:50:10. > :50:14.Glenn Irwin punching off the corner, using drive and grit. It is all very
:50:15. > :50:18.well having power but you have to have good throttle feel. Seeley is
:50:19. > :50:22.gaining. Is he going to try and passing before they get to station
:50:23. > :50:27.corner? They won't get through two abreast. Seeley drops back. The
:50:28. > :50:33.crowd loving this and so I! Hutchinson Aubert up the back of
:50:34. > :50:36.Michael Dunlop. Michael Dunlop moving forward and Seeley still
:50:37. > :50:41.stuck behind Glenn Irwin. I'm surprised all those people weren't
:50:42. > :50:45.running away! What I can tell you, the performance of these bikes, it's
:50:46. > :50:48.going to happen on the Coast Road, as it often does that the North West
:50:49. > :50:54.200. I don't see Seeley getting away. Each time he tries it, Glenn
:50:55. > :50:58.Irwin comes back at him. As they do it again and again. Just look at
:50:59. > :51:02.theirs. They keep saying, if I was in the draft I'd be all right.
:51:03. > :51:05.You're not planning anything here. They are just racing and scratching
:51:06. > :51:09.and taking what they can when they can. It's just going to go on like
:51:10. > :51:13.that until they run out of laps and whoever is in front will be the
:51:14. > :51:16.winner. Absolutely right. I think the plans have all gone out the
:51:17. > :51:29.window. Michael Dunlop looking good. He has adapted to that bikes.
:51:30. > :51:33.Ridden so many different bikes run here. Last year he started with a
:51:34. > :51:35.Yamaha and then switched back to the BMW after a few races. He has ridden
:51:36. > :51:38.BMWs around this course. OK, helicopter view. This time around
:51:39. > :51:41.Glenn Irwin gets through the chicane first. Gets through without being
:51:42. > :51:45.attacked by a sliding Hutchinson. There's no question that tyres will
:51:46. > :51:49.be past their optimum. I know it's not a hugely long race. Here he
:51:50. > :51:54.comes. Seeley jamming it down the inside. Neck and neck on the braking
:51:55. > :51:59.zone. Who dares wins. Who will break the latest? Who has the wheels on
:52:00. > :52:04.the ground? Round the outside... Surely not! He does it. Did not want
:52:05. > :52:08.to be beaten into the chicane, Glenn Irwin. Generally you would say
:52:09. > :52:13.whoever has the inside line, has the corner. He had track position but
:52:14. > :52:19.Irwin had his eyes shut, I think. Or didn't know the rules! Now a
:52:20. > :52:23.splinter group, just about got away from Hutchinson, I think. What an
:52:24. > :52:28.extraordinary races has turned out to be. A long wait for the final
:52:29. > :52:33.race of the day at the North West 200 but was it worth waiting for?
:52:34. > :52:36.Hutchinson, Dunlop hunting him down. Seeley likes the Coast Road and
:52:37. > :52:40.overtaking on these sweeping corners. Glenn Irwin doesn't like
:52:41. > :52:46.being overtaken and is resisting fat. They turn left into the Juniper
:52:47. > :52:52.chicane. Seeley on the gas as fast as he can but Irwin is faster.
:52:53. > :52:56.Hutchinson and Dunlop closing in. The gap is closing down. It might
:52:57. > :53:03.well be. This looks like a two horse race at the moment. Both riders from
:53:04. > :53:08.Carrickfergus. Surely Seeley isn't going down the inside here? There is
:53:09. > :53:14.a wet patch there, watch it. If they were better friends you would call
:53:15. > :53:17.them the Carrick Crusaders. Not that I know of. But I'm going to say they
:53:18. > :53:22.will have a lot of respect for one another at the end of this race. It
:53:23. > :53:28.has been a proper duel in the sunset here tonight at the North West 200.
:53:29. > :53:33.Still more laps to go. Who is getting tired? Alastair Seeley on
:53:34. > :53:36.his fitness, is done about five races so far today. That's a point.
:53:37. > :53:41.Glenn Irwin is fresh out of the box. We are on the final lap. That thing
:53:42. > :53:44.is all over the place going up to the roundabout. Seeley Solder and
:53:45. > :53:50.tries to come round the outside. Glenn Irwin having none of it. Stops
:53:51. > :53:53.in the middle of the corner, pretty smart. Really backed it down the
:53:54. > :53:58.corner, in the middle of the roundabout, so he could fire it off
:53:59. > :54:02.the corner. They might do now. Seeley has got the run out of the
:54:03. > :54:11.chicane and wriggling all over the place. Oh my goodness me. It's like
:54:12. > :54:15.a broken toilet seat. That BMW is normally so tidy and shipshape with
:54:16. > :54:21.him on board. Slipstream city here we go. Seeley in the slipstream,
:54:22. > :54:26.going to go left or right. Oh, he's on the grass! My goodness me.
:54:27. > :54:31.Seeley, the camera, the road dragged him into Annie had to shut the
:54:32. > :54:35.throttle. In the dirt at 175 miles an hour. Hutchinson took advantage.
:54:36. > :54:42.Probably got sprayed in water and stones. I cannot believe what I have
:54:43. > :54:46.seen. Alastair Seeley back on the throttle. Glenn Irwin breaking into
:54:47. > :54:50.the corner but Seeley right behind Hutchinson. He should have been
:54:51. > :54:54.passed by Michael Dunlop and Michael Rutter in theory. Look at that. The
:54:55. > :54:59.wheels are in the dirt on in the gutter at that point. He just had to
:55:00. > :55:05.roll out of it. That was so close to the edge. That would have confuse
:55:06. > :55:10.the traction control. I would have been off to the toilet myself!
:55:11. > :55:14.Alastair Seeley has just got back into gear. He's coming again. It's
:55:15. > :55:20.not over yet. We have half a lap to go. Irwin won't know what happened
:55:21. > :55:22.behind him, he won't know that Seeley shouldn't be doing this at
:55:23. > :55:27.this particular time. He's going to treat him like he has throughout the
:55:28. > :55:31.race. Closing on traffic. This is a black marker was going through the
:55:32. > :55:36.bottom of the screen. Here's another 24, that could be awkward. Andrew
:55:37. > :55:39.Sellars. He will get a lesson in a minute because these two are
:55:40. > :55:44.charging through. This had to shut the throttle a little bit. Seeley
:55:45. > :55:52.has gone down the inside into Church. I think we still have
:55:53. > :55:56.another run down to the Juniper hill chicane. Over the top of Blackhill
:55:57. > :56:00.in a minute. That was close. No question Glenn Irwin had to just
:56:01. > :56:05.compromise his line, shut the throttle of it. Seeley didn't need a
:56:06. > :56:09.second invitation. Irwin is slipstreaming him up the hill.
:56:10. > :56:15.Coming out of the draft and going over the top. This is close. Seeley
:56:16. > :56:20.is wriggling around! Now Irwin has the inside line. That was a
:56:21. > :56:23.magnificent charge from Glenn Irwin. Alastair Seeley almost out of
:56:24. > :56:27.control trying to stay out in front and couldn't do it. Irwin just went
:56:28. > :56:36.sizing past him so neatly. Look at them, power sliding through June
:56:37. > :56:41.poll that my Juniper. Seeley hasn't got a chance of going past as they
:56:42. > :56:45.go towards the line. It is Irwin and Seeley and Hutchinson. What a
:56:46. > :56:50.breathtaking, what a fantastic race that was. That was an astonishing
:56:51. > :56:59.performance from those two. Absolutely stunning. 0.1 72. Irwin
:57:00. > :57:06.with his first-ever win here. Great drive, 20 wins run here, can't
:57:07. > :57:10.disrespect him. We've had our differences in the past for him and
:57:11. > :57:14.Ian to race that close, I didn't look behind, I don't know who else
:57:15. > :57:21.was there. It's insane, it's awesome, the best sport in the
:57:22. > :57:25.world. The way the confidence carried from my wins it would be an
:57:26. > :57:35.epic battle. It was just made for good entertainment. What an
:57:36. > :57:38.incredible finish to this year's North West 200. Unbelievable. It has
:57:39. > :57:43.been an awesome week. Thursday's races were great but Saturday blew
:57:44. > :57:49.my head. That finale, the Superbike race was unreal. Glenn Irwin rode
:57:50. > :57:53.well beyond his years. In some ways a little disappointed for Alistair
:57:54. > :57:57.because he was the man. He won four times. His best ever North West 200
:57:58. > :57:59.and will go home to a bit disappointed not to win the big one,
:58:00. > :58:05.the one they were all after. Thank you very much for your company this
:58:06. > :58:11.week. We have more North West 200 highlights for you next Sunday
:58:12. > :58:15.afternoon on BBC Two. All television programmes available on BBC iPlayer
:58:16. > :58:17.as well. But for now, from all of us here on the north coast, until this
:58:18. > :59:02.time next year, it's bye-bye. First up, Monaghan take on
:59:03. > :59:09.Fermanagh,
