:00:25. > :00:27.

:00:38. > :00:48.thrilled to be coming to you live this morning from Dumbarton!

:00:48. > :00:59.

:00:59. > :01:05.Hello, hello, hello. We are in week three of power Blue Peter's Big

:01:05. > :01:11.Olympic Tour. We started in South Wales and then went to Belfast and

:01:11. > :01:16.today we are in a very sunny Dumbarton. Now the talk is going to

:01:16. > :01:22.beat year in about 30 minutes. It's travelling from Glasgow all the way

:01:22. > :01:26.to Inverness. We can see where it is right now. Now, it is somewhere

:01:26. > :01:31.round about Clydebank. It has been passed over to the next person, so

:01:31. > :01:37.some body is about to set off for their part of the journey. What a

:01:37. > :01:40.moment. He looks really excited. If you recognise him, get out there

:01:40. > :01:44.and have a look at the Olympic torch it because you might not have

:01:44. > :01:51.a chance again. That's true and we will be catching up with it later

:01:51. > :01:58.on. Let's speak to these children. They are excited about the Olympics.

:01:58. > :02:04.What are you excited about? Football. I'm excited about the

:02:04. > :02:09.world distance running. Do you do any of that yourself? Yes. Depends

:02:09. > :02:14.on who is chasing you, I'd imagine. If we listen carefully, we can

:02:14. > :02:24.possibly hear it? Maybe as it gets closer. Let's have a look at what

:02:24. > :02:27.is to come on today's show. It's Round 3 of the Blue Peter Olympic

:02:27. > :02:30.Challenge where the two of us and our celebrity friends try our luck

:02:30. > :02:34.at the Triple Jump. We also have the next installment of our

:02:34. > :02:42.Horrible Histories sketches. we're joined by our good friend and

:02:42. > :02:47.Olympics fanatic, Newsround's Ore Oduba. He looks so good in a

:02:47. > :02:49.sparkly jacket, doesn't he? doesn't? Now, each week we've been

:02:49. > :02:53.sending a crack team of local children out and about following

:02:53. > :02:57.the Olympic Torch Relay. So it is time to go over to Louise from BBC

:02:57. > :03:06.News School Report to tell us what has been going on during the last

:03:06. > :03:10.seven days. Hello. Welcome to Dumbarton it. Over the last week

:03:10. > :03:13.the torch has travelled from Liverpool to the Isle of Man around

:03:13. > :03:17.Northern Ireland and Dublin and ended up in Glasgow. Last Saturday

:03:18. > :03:23.it came to the Isle of Man and was carried on the back of a motorbike.

:03:23. > :03:26.In the next couple of days, it travelled to the top landmarks of

:03:27. > :03:31.Northern Ireland including the Giants Causeway. On Wednesday, the

:03:31. > :03:41.Olympic flame across the Irish border and made a historic trip to

:03:41. > :03:45.

:03:45. > :03:50.Dublin where it was carried by Jedward. A on Thursday it ended up

:03:50. > :04:00.in Glasgow to jubilant crowds. We are going to show you some of our

:04:00. > :04:00.

:04:00. > :04:06.top spots. I'm here at a Dublin every nut there is a fantastic view.

:04:06. > :04:16.-- Dublin arena. There is a fantastic view. I like to hang out

:04:16. > :04:21.here, it's a cool thing to do, biking. And skating. Here Robert

:04:21. > :04:31.the Bruce and William Wallace hid here in the Scottish war of

:04:31. > :04:31.

:04:31. > :04:37.independence. Freedom! If you like what you see, come and visit.

:04:37. > :04:42.hear it for Louise, everybody. CHEERING Thank you very much for

:04:42. > :04:52.that. I love the freedom! Thank you very

:04:52. > :04:52.

:04:52. > :05:02.Up now it's time for today's guest. He is the host of Match Of The Day

:05:02. > :05:09.and CBeebies the's ultimate sports stars, it is Ore! Hello, Dumbarton,

:05:09. > :05:14.how are you doing? They like you. You watch all kinds of sports. Talk

:05:14. > :05:19.us through the Olympics. What are you looking forward to? I can't

:05:19. > :05:23.wait. Look at my face. It's an excited face. It's going to be

:05:23. > :05:28.incredible. We have seen the torch go through all the cities and towns,

:05:28. > :05:32.but when the Olympics actually starts, it's going to be off the

:05:32. > :05:38.chart. I'm looking forward to all the sports, but obviously everybody

:05:38. > :05:42.is looking forward to the athletics, seeing it Usain Bolt striking again

:05:42. > :05:47.in London. Personally, I'm looking forward to the hockey because I

:05:47. > :05:55.used to be quite good. We know this because we have a sneaky picture of

:05:55. > :06:01.you in your hockey outfit. There he is. Where is he? Is that really

:06:01. > :06:08.you? The question you want to ask, why did they want to hide my face?

:06:08. > :06:13.What was so horrible about it? you still play hockey? No, I'm a

:06:13. > :06:20.really bad now. I used to play with a lot of the team to the players

:06:20. > :06:22.now. But I'm not any good. That Team GB players or the a lot of

:06:22. > :06:27.people will be excited mother track and field because there are some

:06:27. > :06:34.big stars out there. One that person is Phillips Idowu, triple

:06:34. > :06:42.jumping legend and here is the man himself with the Event Guide.

:06:42. > :06:45.I am a Phillips Idowu. You have made my day. There's only one more

:06:45. > :06:51.thing I want to be awarded this year and I guess you can figure it

:06:51. > :06:54.out. He is Great Britain's best triple jumper and his equally

:06:54. > :06:59.famous for the colour of his hair as his fantastic sporting

:07:00. > :07:05.achievements. I can't wait to compete up. Here is your Blue Peter

:07:05. > :07:12.guide to Olympic triple jumping. It's an amazing sight. It looks

:07:12. > :07:16.like you are flying. I like to think so. In Olympic competition,

:07:16. > :07:21.all athletes who can jump a pre-set distance in the qualifying round go

:07:21. > :07:25.through to the final. The two finalists then get three jumps. The

:07:25. > :07:35.top eight get through more attempts with the longest single jump taking

:07:35. > :07:35.

:07:35. > :07:38.the gold medal. The perfect a triple jump is very important. You

:07:38. > :07:43.are degenerate speed as you approach the board. The next thing

:07:43. > :07:49.is to be accurate on the board of. You want to make sure you step on

:07:49. > :07:54.it without stepping over. You want to maintain as much speed as

:07:54. > :07:59.possible. Then we have the step. You have the land as comfortably as

:07:59. > :08:09.possible with as much control as possible so you can give it

:08:09. > :08:10.

:08:10. > :08:14.When you land in that sandpit, you know whether it is a good jump or

:08:14. > :08:20.not. You want the noise in the stadium. You want the crowd behind

:08:20. > :08:30.you. I want them to be watching me when I am going, basically! Keep

:08:30. > :08:31.

:08:31. > :08:37.them focused on you. It is big! Oh, yes! Triple jump is quite a tough

:08:37. > :08:42.event on the body. You stretch your body quite a lot. One of my

:08:42. > :08:46.conditioning exercises will be using a sledgehammer. And I beat up

:08:46. > :08:56.a stack of tyres. That is a good exercise because it helps my back

:08:56. > :08:56.

:08:56. > :09:02.strength. The key secret to my success, my coach. Secondly, the

:09:02. > :09:05.hard work that I put in. And thirdly, I think nutrition. That is

:09:05. > :09:15.where focus and dedication come in. As soon as I have finished

:09:15. > :09:20.competing I will be eating burgers and drinking milkshakes! I think

:09:20. > :09:30.people are expecting me to go with the Union Jack, but we will have to

:09:30. > :09:34.

:09:34. > :09:39.I think he might go blonde. He has got to go for gold, hasn't he?

:09:39. > :09:44.had a go at the triple-jump. It's a lot more difficult than Phillips

:09:44. > :09:48.Idowu makes it look. If you let anywhere near Levengrove Park in a

:09:49. > :09:54.Dumbarton, come and see us. We will be here all day. There's loads of

:09:54. > :09:59.events you can have a go at. You could be a reporter like Ore. All

:09:59. > :10:03.the details are on the Blue Peter website. Barney is out and about

:10:03. > :10:07.finding out about the things you can have a go at. Yes, I am and, as

:10:07. > :10:12.always, it involves gadgets. You will see the Blue Peter studio

:10:12. > :10:17.stage at the back of the park. The top left-hand side, you will find

:10:17. > :10:21.this tent, the Sports Report area, where you can be a sports presenter.

:10:21. > :10:26.And you get used all the technology they use in the studio. This is

:10:26. > :10:29.known as a green screen. It's a bit of technical wizardry and I have a

:10:29. > :10:34.brilliant technician working with me today, David. The great thing

:10:34. > :10:37.about this, you can operate all of this. Usually reporters get to go

:10:37. > :10:43.to the actual event and report on it from there but we can't do that

:10:43. > :10:48.because we are not there. So we have to use this so, David, put us

:10:48. > :10:53.into the Olympic Stadium, please. There we go. As easy as that for

:10:53. > :11:00.that we have to interview the legend which is Sir Chris Hoy. What

:11:00. > :11:07.a man. Let's see what the fuss is COMMENTATOR: The world champion.

:11:07. > :11:11.Great Britain takes gold. Japan takes bronze. What a moment in

:11:11. > :11:16.history that was. David, we need to get to the Velodrome as quickly as

:11:16. > :11:24.possible, please. Please welcome Sir Chris Hoy.

:11:24. > :11:30.It is such a pleasure to have you here in the Velodrome. How much did

:11:30. > :11:36.that race feel great? I started off a bit slow and then I picked up the

:11:36. > :11:39.pace. And I just tried my best and I won. How does it feel to have the

:11:39. > :11:44.gold medal? It's been amazing because I had been working on it

:11:44. > :11:49.for years. It really is an amazing job you have. Can we talk about

:11:49. > :11:56.your hair? You have gone with a Union Jack. Will that help you to

:11:56. > :12:00.win the next race? I hope so. you want to come down to Levengrove

:12:00. > :12:10.Park, you could be your very own sports reporter. The thank you very

:12:10. > :12:12.much, Chris Hoy and Barney. Still to come on today's show.

:12:12. > :12:16.Horrible Histories team have a chariot race. Can Ore match Sir

:12:16. > :12:19.Steve Redgrave and Nicky Byrne by hitting the bell in our Test of

:12:19. > :12:24.Strength? And we'll be trying to emulate Phillips Idowu in Round 3

:12:24. > :12:27.of Blue Peter's Big Olympic Challenge. Now it's time for our

:12:27. > :12:31.weekly look at historic moments that have really shaped the Olympic

:12:31. > :12:35.Games. Usain Bolt might be dominating the 100m right now. But

:12:35. > :12:45.this week we are going all the way back to 1936 when one athlete

:12:45. > :12:47.

:12:47. > :12:51.ruined the hopes of one of the The 1936 Olympic Games were held in

:12:51. > :12:54.Berlin. At that times, three years before the Second World War, the

:12:54. > :13:04.country was under the control of one of the most notorious people in

:13:04. > :13:06.history. Adolf Hitler. He was the leader of the Nazi party and was

:13:06. > :13:10.clear he wanted white athletes to do better in the Games but there

:13:10. > :13:17.was one man who stood up to this. And shattered all of his Olympic

:13:17. > :13:21.dreams, the American, Jesse Owens. He competed in four different

:13:21. > :13:31.events that year and scooped the top prize for the 100 metres and

:13:31. > :13:38.

:13:38. > :13:44.I am very glad to have one at the Olympic Games here in Berlin. A

:13:44. > :13:49.beautiful place and a beautiful setting. I'm glad to come out on

:13:49. > :13:54.top. Thank you. Up next was the long jump where he was up against a

:13:54. > :14:03.German competitor, one of Hitler's favourite athletes but, but the

:14:03. > :14:08.American won it, picking up yet another gold medal. He went home

:14:08. > :14:12.with four gold medals from Berlin and in the process had a strong

:14:12. > :14:21.friendship with his German rival and proudly stood with him on the

:14:21. > :14:24.podium in front of Adolf Hitler. many stories, fantastic moment and

:14:24. > :14:28.Colin he is trying to track down every British gold medallist and

:14:28. > :14:33.you can hear his programme at 11am on Sunday morning for that tomorrow

:14:33. > :14:38.he will be talking to Daley Thompson and the fabulous Rebekah

:14:38. > :14:42.Addington. A little bit later on, we will be having a go at the

:14:42. > :14:47.triple jump. Phillips Idowu made it look easy earlier in the show.

:14:47. > :14:51.However it's not so easy. We are going back in time it to try out

:14:51. > :15:01.another jumping event. It is the standing long jump and it happened

:15:01. > :15:04.

:15:04. > :15:09.in the Olympics between 1919 12. If we talk about the record for

:15:09. > :15:14.this before we go any further, it was set in the 1960s by a Norwegian

:15:14. > :15:18.guy. He managed to jump three metres and 71 centimetres, which is

:15:19. > :15:22.the distance from the start of the mat to the flag. There is no run-up,

:15:23. > :15:29.it is a standing jump. We know that you are one big hunk of muscle, but

:15:29. > :15:36.do we think that Ore can do this? What do you think? Bad. Is that bad

:15:36. > :15:40.but you mean good? No. It means bad! Good. We have one bad and one

:15:40. > :15:44.good, which is the perfect mixture for television. Please take your

:15:44. > :15:54.position. Do it from line one because you are not going to get

:15:54. > :16:02.

:16:02. > :16:12.that far. Come on, guys! Ore, Ore, Ore! Three, two, one. He is an

:16:12. > :16:19.animal. You have jumped one metre and 90 centimetres. A round of

:16:19. > :16:25.applause for Ore. We always said that he had great thigh muscles.

:16:25. > :16:28.Who needs Chris Hoy!! Let's go back to Horrible Histories. They are

:16:28. > :16:34.going back to Roman times with the closest thing they had to Formula

:16:34. > :16:44.One. Enjoy the thrills and spills, but

:16:44. > :16:54.

:16:54. > :17:04.chiefly the spills, of chariot This is the most brutal and deadly

:17:04. > :17:07.

:17:07. > :17:17.race of all time. Please select your charioteer. You have made your

:17:17. > :17:17.

:17:17. > :17:22.selection. The Jews it in colour. - - choose your colour. Red is good

:17:22. > :17:29.but it does not show up your opponent's blood! Let the raised

:17:29. > :17:35.commence! Do you have what it takes to survive seven laps? He doesn't!

:17:35. > :17:40.Watch out for the falling charioteer. Watch out for the

:17:40. > :17:45.flying horse dung. Avoid the broken chariots known as shipwrecks. And

:17:45. > :17:52.if you crash, let go of the reins, but they are wrapped around your

:17:52. > :17:57.waist so you cannot! You win! live to raise another day, unlike

:17:57. > :18:05.my horse, who will be sacrificed to the gods. I shall miss you. I am

:18:05. > :18:13.not crying. It is fast, it is furious, it is chariot racing.

:18:13. > :18:18.away. I am not crying. I am not! do love Horrible Histories! We have

:18:18. > :18:27.seen how far he can jump. Now it is time to test his strength. We are

:18:27. > :18:32.training you to be an Olympic athlete. Can I be like Steve

:18:32. > :18:36.Redgrave? Hopefully! Steve Redgrave and Nicky Byrne have both hit the

:18:36. > :18:42.bell, so there is some pressure, but we think you can do it having

:18:42. > :18:52.seen you jump. Now everybody is my friend! It is hammered time. Let's

:18:52. > :18:54.

:18:54. > :19:02.count him down. Three, two, one! That was rubbish. You need to swing

:19:02. > :19:05.it more. That was 60. That was my first effort, right? You are wrong

:19:05. > :19:10.60 and we are all a little bit disappointed! What a shocker. But

:19:10. > :19:17.we still like you. Let's move on. Earlier we spoke to you about the

:19:17. > :19:27.torch being in Clydebank and it is now on its to wait to

:19:27. > :19:27.

:19:27. > :19:32.Dunbartonshire. Look how fast it is going! -- on its way to Dumbarton.

:19:32. > :19:37.That is Ore running! You want to sue the torch, so what are you

:19:37. > :19:47.going to do? We are going to go quickly, so we are running! What

:19:47. > :19:52.are you excited about at the Olympics? I am excited by the

:19:52. > :19:59.gymnastics. Let's see who is on our leaderboard as we hand over to Dan

:19:59. > :20:04.Walker. Welcome to the Blue Peter bigger Olympic Challenge. It is

:20:04. > :20:11.where we invite our friends to take part in nine Olympic events. At the

:20:11. > :20:16.end of it, one of them will stand on the podium with a Blue Peter

:20:16. > :20:21.gold medal. Laura Wright, not just a big singer. Brendan Cole, taking

:20:21. > :20:29.this as seriously as Strictly Come Dancing. Last week's winner, Adele.

:20:29. > :20:35.Mr consistent, it Romeo. And not forgetting these two, Helen and

:20:35. > :20:39.Barney. Wellcome, athletes. This is an event that requires pace,

:20:39. > :20:43.precision and explosive power. It is the triple jump and it is our

:20:43. > :20:49.third event. We need somebody that knows what they are talking about.

:20:49. > :20:54.It is one of our top jumping coaches! Can you tell them one

:20:54. > :20:59.thing to give them this extra centimetres? A good step. Most

:20:59. > :21:05.people do a very good hop and a little step. If you can just get

:21:05. > :21:10.that leg out, you have got it. are all yours! It sounds so simple,

:21:10. > :21:16.hop, step and jump, but not everybody finds it that easy.

:21:16. > :21:19.ridiculous what is going on behind him. It is so hard. I have just

:21:19. > :21:27.seen Helen Skelton doing little jumps. She has got a dock complex

:21:27. > :21:31.which I think the coach is worried about. -- duck complex. Her legs of

:21:31. > :21:39.flapping. There will be separate men and women's events. The rivalry

:21:39. > :21:45.seems to be hotting up. I am not very good at this. Laura has got a

:21:45. > :21:49.funny jump. Her hands are dead cute. I am really excited about triple

:21:49. > :21:53.jump. I think it will be good. The other girls are doing really well

:21:53. > :22:00.in training. The boys are finding out how much stress the body is put

:22:00. > :22:05.under, none more so than Barney, who looks to have tweaked something.

:22:05. > :22:09.That is so painful. This situation is fascinating. I find it quite

:22:09. > :22:13.hard to run. Don't move my leg. This is the moment when Olympic

:22:13. > :22:18.dreams can become a Olympic nightmares. I don't think he can do

:22:19. > :22:26.too well in this. I know how much that hurts. That is the face of

:22:26. > :22:33.pain. Is the baby coming out?! the out of the Olympics? He can do

:22:33. > :22:38.some stretching. This is where our athletes will start the triple jump

:22:38. > :22:42.journey. Then it is fast as they can down the runway. Down goes the

:22:42. > :22:46.lead but, making sure they do not go over the line, otherwise they

:22:46. > :22:50.get the red flag of doom. They want the white flag. Then you have to

:22:50. > :22:58.hop, taking off and landing on the same thought. The second one is the

:22:58. > :23:02.step, and the third one into the pit is the jump. The crowd goes

:23:02. > :23:06.wild, a new world record. Just like in Olympic competition, everybody

:23:06. > :23:16.is given three jobs, with their long as League One counting towards

:23:16. > :23:20.

:23:20. > :23:25.the final result. -- longest legal one. Helen struggled. She managed

:23:25. > :23:30.to do two with her feet over the line. This put pressure on her.

:23:30. > :23:36.is looking tense. She would be. It is a strong run up and she is using

:23:36. > :23:42.her arms, pumping away. It looks good, but is it? It is a white flag

:23:42. > :23:48.and it counts at last! Adele was next up and she really struggled

:23:48. > :23:53.with the technique. Three failures for her. And as for Laura, she was

:23:53. > :23:58.proving very consistent. Two really good jumps to start with and this

:23:58. > :24:03.is number three. She is in a really strong position. That looks like a
