:00:30. > :00:38.Hello and a very warm welcome to our coverage of the Co-operative

:00:39. > :00:43.Funeralcare Scottish International Open. Yesterday, it was carnage,

:00:44. > :00:50.with former champions, top seeds and world champions crashing from the

:00:51. > :00:56.competition. One shock exit followed another, as we said goodbye to the

:00:57. > :01:02.four previous year 's winners. But have no fear, there was still plenty

:01:03. > :01:07.of pedigree left. Our first match pitted the Commonwealth Games gold

:01:08. > :01:12.medallist against Paul Foster's conqueror, Mark Royal. I feel

:01:13. > :01:21.confident following victory over Paul, so I feel I can go on and win

:01:22. > :01:24.the tournament. Our second game featured the 2015 world indoor

:01:25. > :01:31.runner-up, Andy Thomson, against Stewart Anderson. He will be a tough

:01:32. > :01:35.opponent. I played him last year and managed to win, but I am aware of

:01:36. > :01:42.how well he played against Nick Brett, so will be a hard game. Last

:01:43. > :01:45.but by no means least, 2008 champion Greg Harlow squared off against

:01:46. > :01:50.Jonathan Ross in the last of our quarterfinals. I have played

:01:51. > :01:56.Jonathan quite a bit in the past but not in recent times. He is going

:01:57. > :02:00.pretty good this week. This is how the draw looked at the start of the

:02:01. > :02:10.day. Jason Greenslade was up against Les Gillett.

:02:11. > :02:19.Let's focus on the match we were looking forward to, Mark Royal

:02:20. > :02:23.against Darren Burnett. Not many bowlers can be described as masters

:02:24. > :02:29.of the game, both inside and out, but Darren Burnett can. Multiple

:02:30. > :02:37.winner of British titles, plus a world Champion of champions. He is

:02:38. > :02:42.the complete bowler. Mark Royal may not be able to compete in terms of

:02:43. > :02:47.titles, but he is a great player with a game that can do real damage.

:02:48. > :02:51.Quiet off the green, but ruthless on it, he took the International open

:02:52. > :02:58.title in Wales a few years back and this week he has looked on top form.

:02:59. > :03:03.But Darren Burnett took the first set 8-5. We join it in the fourth

:03:04. > :03:17.game of the 2nd set with Mark Royal 2-1 in front.

:03:18. > :03:24.The heat in here, in terms of the bowling area, generally, is very

:03:25. > :03:46.hot. Obviously the heat exchangers are working well.

:03:47. > :04:46.APPLAUSE A good follow up.

:04:47. > :04:50.There is the connection for Mark Royal, if he wants to go just

:04:51. > :05:11.slightly narrower. Just dipped inside for the gap. That

:05:12. > :05:17.was a hard shot to play. It looked like it was perfect. And then, as if

:05:18. > :05:23.to say, now that you have gone past, watch the red bowl. It falls.

:05:24. > :05:43.If it had fallen already, he would have knocked against it.

:05:44. > :05:53.That does not really change anything. That green bowl was always

:05:54. > :05:57.in a good position. It is all down to whether Mark wants to play more

:05:58. > :05:59.weight at this, or play the same bowl again, and hope the gap has

:06:00. > :06:15.been closed down. Trying for the same shot again. It

:06:16. > :06:23.is difficult. It really years, but he is giving it a good go. He is

:06:24. > :06:27.close. Surely this time. Got it this time and made two. Beautifully done

:06:28. > :06:39.by Mark Royal, lovely shot. He kept the faith. He got his reward. That

:06:40. > :06:49.is tough, that really is a tough, tough shot to play. Ask any of the

:06:50. > :06:53.top players. They will tell you it is a low percentage shot. Darren his

:06:54. > :07:11.attacking. Well, if you had a shot of the day

:07:12. > :07:19.for the worst result, that has to be it. There are few more frustrating

:07:20. > :07:25.things in bowls than handing your opponent shots. But to do it when

:07:26. > :07:36.you had three bowls so close. He took all three out. It just seemed

:07:37. > :07:40.impossible. A magical mystery. Well, Darren got two back in the

:07:41. > :07:48.next end, thankfully for him. We rejoin it for the sixth end.

:07:49. > :07:50.The last time these gentlemen met on the world Bowls tour was the

:07:51. > :07:58.semifinal of the Welsh. The first set was tied 8-8, the 2nd set was

:07:59. > :08:03.won by Mark Royal, 7-4, and Mark Royal went on to take that title.

:08:04. > :08:09.The dates of those clashes are critical in many ways. Mark was

:08:10. > :08:14.flying high, especially in Wales. He has always played good bowls down

:08:15. > :08:19.there. A bit of a bogey tournament for some players, and others happen

:08:20. > :08:22.to enjoy it immensely. Simon Skelton was another one who did well down in

:08:23. > :08:41.South Wales. It is circumstances beyond the

:08:42. > :08:47.control of bowls organisations that there is no welcome now -- no Welsh

:08:48. > :09:14.open now. We all hope it returns. It was a good event.

:09:15. > :09:46.That was a nice line. Really nice line. You could see the bowl dipping

:09:47. > :09:56.in at the end of its travel, gently falling back.

:09:57. > :10:05.You would think he was happy with that. He is playing so well, he

:10:06. > :10:09.really is. So is Mark, to be fair. They are playing quality bowls in

:10:10. > :10:18.this match. Just to prove a point, here he comes. Look at this! It is

:10:19. > :10:27.brilliant. Absolutely brilliant stuff from both players. Two men on

:10:28. > :10:46.the top of their game. Mark Royal, using the

:10:47. > :10:54.I am almost scared to say that the shot looks like it is coming through

:10:55. > :10:59.there, but I am trying to see if there is any danger for him to take

:11:00. > :11:07.all his own bowls out again. But it surely has to. The re-spot position

:11:08. > :11:13.is over here. So any bounce of the jack to bring it into that position

:11:14. > :11:17.would be really good. At least he would be reducing the count down to

:11:18. > :12:48.a single. But Mark still has another would be reducing the count down to

:12:49. > :12:54.Brilliant, brilliant bowling. What an end of bowls that was. On target,

:12:55. > :13:01.running bowls. Great maximum 100% results. Without that, he was still

:13:02. > :13:06.two down, but it was just enough. That was him, trying to get the jack

:13:07. > :13:10.with the edge. Quite ably in end of bowls. Mark

:13:11. > :13:36.Royal took that set, which meant a tie-break.

:13:37. > :13:40.Three end tie-break, a single shot per end, and that is the way to

:13:41. > :13:58.start. A good reply. Gives him something to

:13:59. > :14:08.work off. He will have to start to attack this at some stage.

:14:09. > :14:19.Two of their last three meetings have gone to tie-breaks. Mark Royal

:14:20. > :14:24.has won both 2-0. Cover bowls going in already. I am surprised it is as

:14:25. > :14:27.deep as that. He will be looking for the re-spot, rather than the

:14:28. > :14:43.full-back position. That might have been a bit of a flyer.

:14:44. > :14:50.Trying to drive this off, get a connection on the jack. He needs to

:14:51. > :14:58.move it somehow. And somehow it just goes down the side.

:14:59. > :15:02.It was a pretty horrible gap to make. The edge of the red bowl would

:15:03. > :15:03.have taken the green one out. He would have been happy enough with

:15:04. > :15:31.that. The re-spot is covered. Darren is

:15:32. > :15:36.still looking for the edge of the green bowl. If he misses it, I would

:15:37. > :15:39.say a blocker is required because Darren is more than capable of

:15:40. > :15:56.edging this bowl off. It didn't go to the re-spot. It has

:15:57. > :16:06.gone in all the way. Very, very good strike. He is a touch, and he will

:16:07. > :16:10.stay there. Maximum results to follow that through. It could easily

:16:11. > :16:19.have bounced off the green one at the back. Bang on target, absolutely

:16:20. > :16:24.middled the jack. No guarantees that things go through when you hit one

:16:25. > :16:31.like that. But then he was desperately unlucky with the

:16:32. > :16:35.previous one, so... Time-out called. Mark Royal, with his first bowl one

:16:36. > :16:42.inch behind the jack, exactly where you want to be. This is a disaster

:16:43. > :16:47.in terms of trying to get to it. Nothing on the narrow side, no

:16:48. > :16:51.chance of playing the narrow side. He has to go opposite side and hope

:16:52. > :16:56.to sneak past his own bowl, probably two and a half feet. The left hand,

:16:57. > :17:09.his forehand. The way this pair have played, you

:17:10. > :17:11.would not bet against him. He has to give it a chance. There is no point

:17:12. > :17:27.in being short. This looks heavy. His opponent was looking at it,

:17:28. > :17:35.expecting it to drop in the ditch. It did not come back nearly as much

:17:36. > :17:40.as he thought it would. After the perfect opening bowl in the

:17:41. > :17:44.tie-break, Mark Royal was undone by the perfect driving bowl from Darren

:17:45. > :17:49.Burnett. It is an advantage to the Scot. He lost the last two

:17:50. > :18:14.tie-breaks against Mark Royal. A few years ago, the statistic was

:18:15. > :18:18.3-0. It would have been more like 2-1 for me, looking at it. Since

:18:19. > :18:21.then, Darren Burnett has been playing super stuff and it has

:18:22. > :18:30.reflected in his World Championship success. The Commonwealth Games. He

:18:31. > :18:40.has always been picking up titles. Four times world under 25s champion.

:18:41. > :18:50.His roll call of honours is impressive. Mark Royal last one a

:18:51. > :18:56.world ranking event in 2011 and has not been beyond the quarterfinals in

:18:57. > :19:13.his last 12 events. He has it all to do now.

:19:14. > :19:23.It is a good line. Just dropping inside. A good starter from both

:19:24. > :20:18.players. On the line again. Again, he looks

:20:19. > :20:33.like he is dipping inside nicely. He has. It is a narrow target. But the

:20:34. > :20:39.advantage for Darren is that obviously he is carrying that one

:20:40. > :20:44.end and can afford to take a risk. The re-spot is covered on one side.

:20:45. > :20:46.It has to be worth looking for the two bowls, with his ability to drive

:20:47. > :21:06.hard and accurately. He wanted to leave the jack. That is

:21:07. > :21:11.OK. That was the other option, bouncing it out into the re-spot. A

:21:12. > :21:16.bit of a distance, and Mark Royal does have two bites at it. Mark

:21:17. > :21:19.Royal would have been relieved when he saw the jack connecting that it

:21:20. > :21:31.was not chased into the ditch like last time. Now he has probably three

:21:32. > :21:50.and a half feet around the jack. The line looks OK. Does it have the

:21:51. > :22:08.power? Yes, it does. That is close enough. And Darren Burnett, going to

:22:09. > :22:18.see how far that bowl is. It is beatable. He will probably try and

:22:19. > :22:34.draw this. A big shot for Darren Burnett. He lost it. He had to go

:22:35. > :22:38.very wide. He does use a strong bias bowl. It is rare that it happens but

:22:39. > :22:48.he had no choice if he was going to play that side. He had to be very

:22:49. > :23:02.close to the side ditch. You could see he was trying to skirt the very

:23:03. > :23:07.edge. He did not miss it by much. It is annoying. From his reaction, he

:23:08. > :23:13.probably thought he was close. You always like to see what happens. But

:23:14. > :23:21.that is one of the problems with any single rink match. Winner takes all.

:23:22. > :23:37.A place in the semifinal awaits. You would always take last bowl over

:23:38. > :23:42.setting the jack length here. They are not doing that. The rules change

:23:43. > :23:46.again. This is the only time you can destroy the end and replay it, but

:23:47. > :23:54.you have to nominate it. You can only do it once but you can nominate

:23:55. > :24:06.as often as you wish. So this could go on for potentially three ends.

:24:07. > :24:17.This is a great opening bowl from Darren Burnett. Round it goes, falls

:24:18. > :24:21.down. You could hear the crowd. They are obviously a home crowd for

:24:22. > :24:25.Darren but there is a lot of respect out there as well for Mark Royal.

:24:26. > :24:30.This has been a fantastic game of holes, it really has. Full of good

:24:31. > :24:42.drawers, good weight shots, unfortunate results, the odd

:24:43. > :24:47.fortunate result as well. He would like that one back. The last place

:24:48. > :24:53.you want to be as right in front of the jack, just in case you want to

:24:54. > :24:56.drive your way out of trouble. That was perfect protection for Darren.

:24:57. > :25:07.He will not want to leave anything so he will come round.

:25:08. > :25:16.Oh, well, it falls the other side. That is a very good single shot at

:25:17. > :25:19.this stage in the match. It is beatable but it takes a special bowl

:25:20. > :25:40.to beat it. I thought it was always on the short

:25:41. > :25:45.side. Some effort, mind you. There is not going to be a destroyed end

:25:46. > :25:50.here. There is no way to drive the jack, the way the balls are sitting.

:25:51. > :25:54.Mark Royal will be forced into trying to draw this. Darren Burnett

:25:55. > :25:59.would be tempted to drop one short and force Mark Royal onto the other

:26:00. > :26:13.hand. The trouble is, he can play it both ways. That is the problem.

:26:14. > :26:29.Oh, dear. Well... I don't think Mark Royal will try to chip the bowl out.

:26:30. > :26:36.And that bowl might just be enough behind jack Hyde to stop the

:26:37. > :26:38.shoulder working perfectly. Even if it rested against it and fell, might

:26:39. > :27:06.not be enough. I don't think he has made it. Not

:27:07. > :27:11.enough. I have a feeling it is one to read. He hit it just a little bit

:27:12. > :27:17.thick. I think he hit it just a little bit thick. He needed to hit

:27:18. > :27:22.it just a little bit Finau. Yes, I little bit thinner and he was

:27:23. > :27:34.definitely coming in off the back bowl. This is interesting, because

:27:35. > :27:39.it is not up to Mark. It is now. He knew it was not enough. Good

:27:40. > :27:45.sportsmanship, I can tell you. You don't often see that at any level

:27:46. > :27:50.except the very top professionals. What a match. Top-class bowling, top

:27:51. > :27:55.result for Darren Burnett, the highest seed left in the tournament.

:27:56. > :28:04.He is in the semifinal. Hard work today. Absolutely. He has been

:28:05. > :28:08.playing great bowls and he is back to top form. He is really hard to

:28:09. > :28:14.beat, very consistent. I had to dig in. You were super consistent. You

:28:15. > :28:19.must have been happy with the way you were playing. Yes. Early in the

:28:20. > :28:24.match I probably ran too much, not really my style. Then I decided to

:28:25. > :28:29.try and improve my drawer and I'm certainly happy with the way I

:28:30. > :28:34.played. Congratulations to Darren Burnett, through to the semifinal.

:28:35. > :28:37.He took Commonwealth gold in Glasgow last year, coached by David Gourlay,

:28:38. > :28:44.who has now left and has been replaced by an experienced Welshman.

:28:45. > :28:48.I think a few people will look at it and say, why have we not got a

:28:49. > :28:54.Scottish head coach, but I don't think that necessarily has to be the

:28:55. > :29:00.case. The guys know John, he is high profile. And they respect him and

:29:01. > :29:05.that is the most important thing. I certainly feel I am privileged to be

:29:06. > :29:10.in that position. Scottish bowls is tremendous. They are up with the top

:29:11. > :29:16.nations in the world. Bowls in Scotland, they have a passion for it

:29:17. > :29:20.than any other country. Brazil and football would be similar. It is a

:29:21. > :29:25.privilege to do the job and a great responsibility. His credentials go

:29:26. > :29:31.without saying. He has played at the top level, Commonwealth Games, he

:29:32. > :29:35.understands what players go through. And Rona has been there at the

:29:36. > :29:39.highest level in the Olympics, winning a gold medal. She has been

:29:40. > :29:43.under pressure, as has John, but she has achieved a lot through curling

:29:44. > :29:47.and the changes that have come through curling as well. There are

:29:48. > :29:52.things that curling did 15 years ago that we can learn from. They bring

:29:53. > :29:59.slightly different aspects to the job, but combined they are a solid

:30:00. > :30:03.team. We work well together. He leaves the bits and bobs to me that

:30:04. > :30:09.he does not like to do. He has the knowledge and I need to implement

:30:10. > :30:13.it. I think her appointment is great for bowls. She is very high

:30:14. > :30:20.profile, comes from an Olympic programme, so she will bring a

:30:21. > :30:24.different skill set. I think she will take bowls a couple of rungs up

:30:25. > :30:30.the high performance ladder. She is well-suited to take us further up.

:30:31. > :30:40.The high-performance manager role for Bowls Scotland is to bring

:30:41. > :30:46.high-performance into the equation, whether it is psychology, training,

:30:47. > :30:51.whatever we can do to give them services to help them. Whatever we

:30:52. > :30:58.can do to win medals, we have to do it. Australia, they are bringing

:30:59. > :31:04.these high-performance programmes in. We have got to keep moving

:31:05. > :31:09.forward to stay on top where we are. We have also got a target ourselves

:31:10. > :31:15.in the World Championships. Obviously, the first important issue

:31:16. > :31:20.is to qualify for those championships. That is the first

:31:21. > :31:26.challenge ahead. John will be well respected by the squad. He has got

:31:27. > :31:31.great experience. Very level-headed, very approachable and

:31:32. > :31:35.he knows the game inside out. I think John will do really well in

:31:36. > :31:47.the job and bring the team altogether. We wish John Price and

:31:48. > :31:54.Rhona Howie all the best in their roles at Scottish bowls. Let's move

:31:55. > :32:02.onto the next quarterfinal. Greg Harlow signalled his intent with a 3

:32:03. > :32:07.in the second end. Ross had never been this far in the Scottish open

:32:08. > :32:15.and his prospects of progressing looked bleak as he lost the first

:32:16. > :32:17.set 10-1 after just seven ends. An uncharacteristically loose shot from

:32:18. > :32:22.Greg Harlow gave the Scott some encouragement and if we shot lead.

:32:23. > :32:34.He was finding his range in the fourth end. -- three shot lead. By

:32:35. > :32:37.the seventh end he was on his way to building and unassailable lead and

:32:38. > :32:45.forcing a tie-break, winning the second set, 8-3. The 2010 world

:32:46. > :32:55.champion took the initiative with a great drive to win the first end of

:32:56. > :33:03.the tie-break. And he found a good position early in the second end.

:33:04. > :33:09.And try as he might, Johnny Ross was unable to beat that with his

:33:10. > :33:17.remaining bowls so Greg Harlow was through to the semifinal against

:33:18. > :33:21.Darren Burnett, winning-1, 3-9, 2-0. The first semifinal will be Darren

:33:22. > :33:27.Burnett against Greg Harlow. Should be a cracker. Let's turn our

:33:28. > :33:29.attention to the other half of the draw, Andy Thomson against Stuart

:33:30. > :33:36.Anderson. The match of the tournament so far was the one in

:33:37. > :33:42.which Anderson played Nick Brett. The Scotsman conjured up a magical

:33:43. > :33:48.performance. He looks to have recaptured the form that saw him win

:33:49. > :33:52.the world title back in 2013. This fellow has uncanny ability to get

:33:53. > :33:55.the end of tournaments. He has won the bold title on three separate

:33:56. > :34:00.occasions and could have made it four if he had not met Alex Marshall

:34:01. > :34:06.in scintillating form earlier this year. Both were in good form in the

:34:07. > :34:16.first set. We join this in the eighth end, Anderson with his nose

:34:17. > :35:07.just in front. APPLAUSE

:35:08. > :36:01.Here's urging it forward. That which just it is going short. A slap of

:36:02. > :36:05.the hands together. The last thing he wanted to be. If anything he

:36:06. > :36:13.wanted to get to the second red bowl. Two shorts down in the last

:36:14. > :37:54.end is not a disaster. Three shots, and it is going to be tough.

:37:55. > :38:05.This is a loose end from Stewart Anderson. And we are talking in

:38:06. > :38:18.relative terms, a loose end. 14, 15 inches. Andy knows he can do better

:38:19. > :38:24.than that. It will have moved with this bowl, still a danger if the red

:38:25. > :38:27.bowl is still sitting in front at that angle with this forehand

:38:28. > :38:36.dipping around the short bowls, and here it comes. That was about

:38:37. > :38:46.getting to the jack before Stewart and forcing him into the weight

:38:47. > :38:57.shot. He has the best two back bowls, the two green. A little mixed

:38:58. > :39:04.up. He is allowed. Stuart, deep in concentration. There he goes. He has

:39:05. > :39:09.the position. Looking for the slip and the run-through. On their

:39:10. > :39:14.re-spot that is going to be really tight. I don't expect him to score

:39:15. > :39:21.all three but he will certainly rely on a nice situation. Two against him

:39:22. > :39:37.for definite, potentially three. He has turned it over. If you just

:39:38. > :39:44.loses one. Good hit. You would expect Andy to draw the shot. This

:39:45. > :39:52.is something they practice what on the re-spots. It is struggling. That

:39:53. > :40:04.looked lazy. That is a gift. Something went wrong there.

:40:05. > :40:07.Something wasn't right. It is just not like Andy to make that sort of

:40:08. > :40:17.mistake. Things continue to go wrong for Andy

:40:18. > :40:29.Thomson who lost five games. We rejoin it in the fourth.

:40:30. > :40:39.Good stuff. He is not playing badly. He has to find a way to get

:40:40. > :41:14.back into this second set. Andy might be tempted to come

:41:15. > :41:20.through this and try to take the two bowls away. Here he goes. He cannot

:41:21. > :41:31.afford to be wide. Is he going to get back in time? He just didn't get

:41:32. > :41:37.the angle. Still, one away. Jason was just that bit better. Since the

:41:38. > :41:44.second round I don't think anyone has played poorly, really. Just,

:41:45. > :41:54.some of the guys have been right on it, this week.

:41:55. > :42:16.Stewart Anderson had a great game against Nick Brett. Your bowl is 12

:42:17. > :42:22.inches. This is reminiscent of Stewart from two, three years ago.

:42:23. > :42:29.And Andy forced to go again. He went with a pile of weight that time. Not

:42:30. > :42:40.far away. You can see the set slipping away. Gets the outside Red

:42:41. > :42:46.Bull. Two of them will disappear. Now what do you do, put something on

:42:47. > :43:07.the re-spot and let Andy have another go, or block it? He is

:43:08. > :43:21.looking to drop in on its centre rink and block it, that is where the

:43:22. > :43:27.danger was. That is a shocking decision for Andy Thomson. If he

:43:28. > :43:35.goes again he has to do get close to this green bowl to push it in. He

:43:36. > :43:43.takes it out he loses another shot. There is no real draw on. He's going

:43:44. > :43:52.to take this on. He has. That was the danger of pushing something in,

:43:53. > :43:58.losing another shot. I cannot blame him playing it, though. He had to go

:43:59. > :44:08.for it. I don't think there was any choice in the matter. It is a

:44:09. > :44:12.horrible outcome. It was a clever bowl by Stewart to drop its slightly

:44:13. > :44:19.on the wind signed of the centre line. It left Andy with nothing.

:44:20. > :44:28.There was no draw shot and he decided to take a risk -- on the

:44:29. > :44:34.wide side. Stewart will close this down, be quite happy to lose the odd

:44:35. > :45:05.single over the next two or three ends. He can defend.

:45:06. > :45:25.Andy will be trying to chip away at this and try to score one, two shots

:45:26. > :45:30.over the next couple of end is, see if you can give himself a good run

:45:31. > :45:38.at Stewart. He has dropped short with this one again so there is an

:45:39. > :45:43.opportunity. Remember last season Andy Johnson came out on top on the

:45:44. > :45:53.tie-break. He won the first set, occasion, lost the second. Took the

:45:54. > :45:59.tie-break. And to score this end. He has since a chance, and he is coming

:46:00. > :46:10.round. -- needs to score. That is good stuff. Hasn't played a bad

:46:11. > :46:14.game. Andy retire from the outdoor side for the Commonwealth Games and

:46:15. > :46:17.World Championship and number of years ago. Still good enough to

:46:18. > :46:21.compete at that level, how doors, if he felt like it. A lot of people

:46:22. > :46:31.feel that they could still do with him. But other things are more

:46:32. > :46:39.important to him at the moment. Use into the coaching side as well, now.

:46:40. > :46:48.-- he is into. Has had a little stint with jersey. Can he come round

:46:49. > :46:55.here and draw a third? Does not want to leave it short. Where he has left

:46:56. > :47:01.it might just forced Stewart Anderson into the forehand. We

:47:02. > :47:08.thought he would go into the management side. Hasn't happened

:47:09. > :47:16.yet. I would imagine that with probably on the cards in the not too

:47:17. > :47:18.distant future. He's a good man to get in. He holds the respect of the

:47:19. > :47:29.players. He has forced Stewart on the

:47:30. > :47:37.beforehand and he might have played one. Will it get back in time? Not

:47:38. > :47:41.quite. It is his closest so far but Andy still looks like he is holding

:47:42. > :47:51.a couple. Two shots, needs to pick up this shop here. This is

:47:52. > :47:58.important, make the three. Get back what you lost in the last end. Just

:47:59. > :48:11.crossing the map a little bit to give himself some extra room and get

:48:12. > :48:17.around this short bowl. He has given this chance. It needs to hurry. It

:48:18. > :48:23.needs to run. The line is good. Looks like he is there. That

:48:24. > :48:28.confirms it. If he has made it, it is a good treble. Stewart has got a

:48:29. > :48:39.good eye on his head. That is a really good treble. Needs another

:48:40. > :48:47.score this end and the next one, to put a little bit of doubt into

:48:48. > :48:59.Stewart Anderson's head. Stewart Anderson over the two set 's has

:49:00. > :49:16.taken six straight ends. Stewart Anderson's loosest N so far, and

:49:17. > :49:33.Andy Thomson was able to punish him. A shorter length.

:49:34. > :49:49.Just so gently out of the hand. Stewart Anderson, 24 metres. This

:49:50. > :50:02.carpet is running a little bit slower and usual, perhaps. Just fed

:50:03. > :50:06.it out of the hand. -- feather it. It is running similar to my own

:50:07. > :50:22.green back home. This will not be totally dissimilar. It is also a

:50:23. > :50:35.blue carpet on both of our greens. We have had them for a while now,

:50:36. > :50:44.and very attractive they are, too. There will be many club players

:50:45. > :50:47.watching this and seen that with Stewart Anderson the jack Cullen has

:50:48. > :50:54.changed. All of a sudden you are through with one shot and your

:50:55. > :51:02.opponent is getting closer. -- the jack length.

:51:03. > :51:15.Has he got the right weight? The line is good. Got to be close with

:51:16. > :51:18.this one. Beautiful backhand, plucked out the perfect line and

:51:19. > :51:25.wait and that is not going to be easy to move, for Andy. I think he

:51:26. > :51:35.will wait to see if he can make it through the gap into the front green

:51:36. > :51:39.and cut the edge of the red, changing his angle slightly on the

:51:40. > :51:46.mat and there he goes. This is a hard shot to play. In he comes. He

:51:47. > :51:52.wanted to bowl out absolutely clean. As it is, everything is moving. The

:51:53. > :51:57.jack will go on the re-spot and Stewart Anderson will I ever least

:51:58. > :52:03.one, maybe even two. There is a red bowl right at the very back that has

:52:04. > :52:09.stayed on the rink. That was a shocker of a result for Andy. He has

:52:10. > :52:17.had a couple of horrible results of late. I know a few people that could

:52:18. > :52:22.draw this one and they are not even bowlers. Horrible results for Andy

:52:23. > :52:41.Thomson. You see, there it comes. Three shots, Stewart Anderson. This

:52:42. > :52:45.is the difference. If he gets the edge he is lying two or three shots

:52:46. > :52:50.and Stewart is in trouble, he gets the jack and he loses the three. And

:52:51. > :52:56.that finishes off this match. Indeed it did. Anderson took the seventh

:52:57. > :52:59.end, confirming his place in the semifinal.

:53:00. > :53:08.I almost feel like I want to give you a hug after that second set.

:53:09. > :53:12.That was hard work. I played a bad end as I'm sure you will get on to

:53:13. > :53:18.it shortly. I needed a good start in the second set, but after that, he

:53:19. > :53:21.just steam-rollered me. It was amazing, Stewart, because against

:53:22. > :53:25.Nick Brett you played a fantastic game but your line and length seems

:53:26. > :53:31.pretty good this week, you seem very confident. Is that fair comment?

:53:32. > :53:34.Yes, I think it is. I came into the rink quite confident I try to get

:53:35. > :53:42.the first couple of ends under my belt. Let's have a look at set one,

:53:43. > :53:46.this was hugely important to put the pressure on Andy and it meant the

:53:47. > :53:54.first set was pretty much yours. I played two good first bowls and the

:53:55. > :53:59.third one just kind of summed it up. That would mean four up and it made

:54:00. > :54:03.a massive difference. It would seem that any time you got close, Andy,

:54:04. > :54:08.he was able to get inside you. It is fair to say that I dipped in my

:54:09. > :54:13.performance today. I had come into this game quite confident. As

:54:14. > :54:18.Stewart says, it is little percentages. I was down on my game

:54:19. > :54:23.today. Stewart played very well, so I have no complaints. One of the

:54:24. > :54:27.shots we are going to have to pick up on is the second end of the

:54:28. > :54:32.second set. The jack is the re-spot and you got a draw for one, and

:54:33. > :54:38.Stewart was lying at this point. And it was just a little bit under. Can

:54:39. > :54:42.you tell me what the commentator said about this one? It was probably

:54:43. > :54:51.the worst bowl I have played in the last ten years. It was a bad bowl. I

:54:52. > :54:55.bet that he will have a field day with that one. Stewart, you might

:54:56. > :54:59.have thought you were dropping a shot there but you made two or

:55:00. > :55:05.three. Onwards and upwards in the second set from your point of view.

:55:06. > :55:09.I gave and the 100 bowls and he would draw at 100 times and it just

:55:10. > :55:15.happens occasionally, very few times it happens, really, but I am just

:55:16. > :55:19.glad to get the three, 5-0 up and just make sure that I scored in the

:55:20. > :55:27.next couple of ends. Congratulations to Stewart Anderson. He's playing

:55:28. > :55:29.well. Who would he be playing next's Jason Greenslade me the next

:55:30. > :55:45.best -- made a good start. The Welshman made the early running

:55:46. > :55:48.in the second set. Les Gillett' to rediscover the form of round two.

:55:49. > :55:53.The pressure from Greenslade was relentless. The 2004 champion

:55:54. > :56:00.peppering the jack as he scored in each of the first four ends of the

:56:01. > :56:08.second set. There was a glimmer of hope for Les Gillett in the fifth

:56:09. > :56:13.end but he took a two. And when Greenslade missed when playing with

:56:14. > :56:21.weight, the match was tied up at 4-4. At end seven, Les Gillett

:56:22. > :56:34.played a fine fourth shot but left the jack exposed. And Greenslade

:56:35. > :56:43.then picked up a single to nudge in front again. The man from the Bill

:56:44. > :56:54.of Glamorgan pressed home his advantage in the eighth end. -- the

:56:55. > :56:59.Vale of Glamorgan. And, when Les Gillick's final drive missed,

:57:00. > :57:10.Greenslade was into the semifinals with one end to spare. Now, we have

:57:11. > :57:13.the semifinal draw for the Scottish International Open. Stewart Anderson

:57:14. > :57:18.playing very well against the Welsh wizard, Jason Greenslade. Greg

:57:19. > :57:21.Harlow, who won here in 2008 against the 2014 world champion Darren

:57:22. > :57:30.Burnett. Some wonderful matches today. Tomorrow should be absolutely

:57:31. > :57:36.brilliant. What was the best shot? Corky will tell us. My shot of the

:57:37. > :57:43.day was taken from the match with Darren Burnett and Mark well. Mark

:57:44. > :57:49.Royal lost the first set, Darren Burnett was in supreme form but he

:57:50. > :57:52.was 2-1 down. Mark Royal missed the third shot but placed the fourth

:57:53. > :57:57.shot to perfection. Everything had to be right about this, line and

:57:58. > :58:03.wait and catching the jack at the right angle. Just watch this bowl.

:58:04. > :58:10.Beautiful, smooth delivery. Just misses the front bowl. Takes the

:58:11. > :58:16.jack to his back one, and it is completely hidden. It does not get

:58:17. > :58:19.any better than that as a trail shot on the portable rink. More

:58:20. > :58:25.importantly for me, what happened after that, it forced Darren Burnett

:58:26. > :58:29.into playing a weight shot, he was very unlucky but he lost four which

:58:30. > :58:34.gave Mark Royal the impetus to go on and win the set comfortably. That is

:58:35. > :58:40.why it is my shot of the day. That was an absolute peach by Mark Royal.

:58:41. > :58:45.Not good enough to get into the semifinals. We will be back at 10am

:58:46. > :58:47.tomorrow for live coverage of Jason Greenslade against Stewart Anderson

:58:48. > :58:50.and again at 1:45pm for Darren Greenslade against Stewart Anderson

:58:51. > :58:55.and again at 1:45pm for Darren Burnett against Greg Harlow. Today

:58:56. > :59:00.has been wonderful, tomorrow, I'm sure, will be fantastic. In the

:59:01. > :59:04.meantime, sleep well. We will.
