:00:50. > :01:00.This has probably been the best week of my life. The biggest title you
:01:01. > :01:06.can win in bowls. Over a five-game World Championship, you have two dig
:01:07. > :01:10.deep somewhere along the line. You have got to back yourself 110% to
:01:11. > :01:18.draw the shot and keep yourself in the championship. I have not been to
:01:19. > :01:24.the world singles final. A new thing for me, all the razzmatazz that goes
:01:25. > :01:33.with it. I am looking forward to it. Nicky Brett. To walk away undefeated
:01:34. > :01:38.and win the world singles is the biggest honour in the game. The man
:01:39. > :01:45.who dethroned Alex Marshall in yesterday's semifinal, Robert
:01:46. > :01:51.Paxton. Robert Paxton is a world-class performer. He has proved
:01:52. > :01:56.he can beat the best. Some achievement to get top of the pile.
:01:57. > :02:00.He has become so consistent now. Is what dreams are made of, to get your
:02:01. > :02:07.hands on the World Championship trophy. One -- You want to be there
:02:08. > :02:13.so much. One of us is going to be lucky. I hope it is me. I just have
:02:14. > :02:19.to knuckle down and win a game of bowls.
:02:20. > :02:24.APPLAUSE. Hello everyone and welcome to the
:02:25. > :02:28.final of the world indoor bowls singles championship. This is the
:02:29. > :02:33.blue ribbon event, not just of the week, but in the sport of indoor
:02:34. > :02:37.bowls. David Corkill is here. We have been waiting for this all week
:02:38. > :02:43.and we do have a wonderful final in prospect? We do. These two guys have
:02:44. > :02:48.been under pressure. They have proved their worth. They have faced
:02:49. > :02:52.defeat and come through it. Yesterday could conceivably both
:02:53. > :02:58.could have been knocked out? Yes. It was marvellous stuff. Nicky's bowl
:02:59. > :03:05.Justin on a measure. It does not get closer. Both in the final for the
:03:06. > :03:10.first time. What will they be feeling? They will be fairly
:03:11. > :03:18.relaxed. It is difficult when you are coming on with a few minutes.
:03:19. > :03:22.But when you have got that atmosphere, the adrenaline gets
:03:23. > :03:27.going. They will be used to playing major finals. What is the most
:03:28. > :03:35.important characteristic? Handling the pressure. I think it will also
:03:36. > :03:42.come down to one or two big bowls. It is how the bowls break. The
:03:43. > :03:48.semifinals from yesterday have been -- were two examples of what has
:03:49. > :03:51.been a wonderful week. Here at Potters they know a thing or
:03:52. > :03:55.two about putting on a show. And while it has been cold outside this
:03:56. > :04:04.week, inside the action has been bubbling up quite nicely. It is a
:04:05. > :04:10.week that has featured everything you might expect, -- from the great
:04:11. > :04:20.British seaside holiday. A trip or two to the beach. A heavy dose of
:04:21. > :04:25.amusement. Alex was going to lift the wrong bowl there. That is how
:04:26. > :04:34.much he is thinking of it. And budding relationships. Burnett and
:04:35. > :04:46.Anderson were equally irresistible in the world pairs, securing their
:04:47. > :04:50.first title together. And big Darren Burnett was at it again 24 hours
:04:51. > :05:01.later. He and Katherine Rednall went toe to toe with Julie Forrest and
:05:02. > :05:07.Alex Marshall. The best pair won on the day. You cannot win them all.
:05:08. > :05:11.Although for a while we wondered if Burnett might. Nobody had ever
:05:12. > :05:14.bagged a hat-trick of titles at Potters before. Darren was in with a
:05:15. > :05:18.shout. The tournament was serving up more than its share of drama and
:05:19. > :05:25.tight finishes. Becky Field and Ellen Falkner enjoyed a three end
:05:26. > :05:30.tie-breakers to book their places in the women's final. Alan triumphed
:05:31. > :05:39.and became only the second woman to win three world indoor titles. No
:05:40. > :05:44.man, of course, has won the title here as often as Alex Marshall. This
:05:45. > :05:51.complex, this venue, there is nobody better. The best thrive under
:05:52. > :05:55.pressure and so it was in the second round where Marshall saw his
:05:56. > :06:06.tournament life flash before his eyes. I must beat Alex!
:06:07. > :06:15.He is there. What pressure. Alex was through. But
:06:16. > :06:20.what of burn-out in his pursuit of the hat-trick? The dream crushed by
:06:21. > :06:27.local hero Greg Harlow in the second round. The history books remain on
:06:28. > :06:31.written. As for Harlow, the favoured at the Potters, he only made it as
:06:32. > :06:38.far as the quarterfinals. But the show must go on. And we were
:06:39. > :06:45.building to a thrilling final act. Semifinals Saturday served up two
:06:46. > :06:49.stunners. The perseverance of Paxton meant Marshall will have to wait one
:06:50. > :06:57.more year at least before a sending the stairway to seven. The 2016
:06:58. > :07:02.world indoor balls Championships concludes today. A new champion
:07:03. > :07:08.waits in the wings. And then there were two. Two
:07:09. > :07:09.Englishman, Robert Paxton and Nicky Brett. Robert Paxton from Taunton
:07:10. > :07:44.seeded number four. And so we are ready to roll.
:07:45. > :07:58.Time to introduce RMC. The atmosphere is absolutely
:07:59. > :08:03.electric here at Potters. An all England final. Only the third in the
:08:04. > :08:05.38 year history of this tournament. Let's meet the players and
:08:06. > :08:11.introduced them on this famous blue carpet. Ladies and gentlemen, Robert
:08:12. > :08:20.Paxton and Nicky Brett! CHEERING.
:08:21. > :08:43.Genuinely a wonderful atmosphere inside this famous arena. At the end
:08:44. > :08:47.of today either Nicky Brett or Robert Paxton will have their name
:08:48. > :08:52.on the coveted singles trophy for the first time. Who will it be? You
:08:53. > :08:56.can tweet us who you think will win. Corky has eased himself into the
:08:57. > :09:02.commentary box along with Andy Thomson.
:09:03. > :09:08.It is an all England final. There has not been one of those for a long
:09:09. > :09:12.time. Who is going to win? Very hard to call. Nicky Brett is slight
:09:13. > :09:18.favourite. It could go either way. It will be a very tight game. I
:09:19. > :09:32.think it will come down to a couple of bowls. Yes, and luck will play a
:09:33. > :09:39.part. Perfect start for a Nicky. That is what you dream about. The
:09:40. > :09:40.bowl right on top of the jack. You cannot ask for anything better than
:09:41. > :10:00.that. It is so rare enough to have a Scot
:10:01. > :10:08.in the final. -- not to have. Yes, I would agree. You would expect to see
:10:09. > :10:12.Darren, Alex or Paul compete in the final. Nice to see two ping players
:10:13. > :10:41.competing. -- two English players. Very good recovery from the second
:10:42. > :10:47.shot. That settles the nerves. They may be a little bit nervous. I
:10:48. > :10:52.actually think these two guys are pretty relaxed characters. They have
:10:53. > :10:57.been two major finals before, albeit not the world. They will know
:10:58. > :10:59.exactly what they are doing. I do not think it will be as much
:11:00. > :11:05.exactly what they are doing. I do pressure event for them in terms of
:11:06. > :11:11.that. They have played in big events. This is the biggest event in
:11:12. > :11:32.their careers really. To become the world champion, the pinnacle.
:11:33. > :11:42.The messages are coming in from various people. Huntington bowling
:11:43. > :11:47.club have their fingers crossed for a Nicky Brett. I am sure they are
:11:48. > :11:50.watching. I am sure they are. I think Nicky was scrambling about
:11:51. > :12:05.four tickets for his many friends and managed to get a few in.
:12:06. > :12:15.I do not think Robert will be attacking this too early. Just a
:12:16. > :12:27.draw on that. Opening end, one down, a reasonable result.
:12:28. > :12:39.That is a very narrow gap to come in through. What a bowl. That is a
:12:40. > :12:56.great effort. One to me. Good effort but no cigar
:12:57. > :13:03.on this occasion. That is very good for Robert Paxton. He will feel very
:13:04. > :13:07.comfortable about getting those two bowls really close. I think you
:13:08. > :13:15.will. Both players will be happy with the start they have made. As
:13:16. > :13:22.expected, a large crowd for the final. A large crowd for every match
:13:23. > :13:27.really. Yes, this is the culmination of a couple of weeks of play. Every
:13:28. > :13:47.day, almost capacity. Absolutely fantastic venue.
:13:48. > :13:56.Nicky's wife, Sam, on the left. The family all over the arena. The two
:13:57. > :14:05.girls are here as well, sorry and Lauren. -- Chloe. Mum is in the
:14:06. > :14:13.stands. Trying to control her nerves. She was a little bit
:14:14. > :14:16.nervous, as you can imagine. It is the amazing -- it is amazing the
:14:17. > :14:23.information you clean through Twitter. Debbie Clapham has just
:14:24. > :14:55.tweeted that Robert Paxton used to be her postman many years ago.
:14:56. > :15:08.Settling in now. That is Louise, Robert's wife, who came up from
:15:09. > :15:12.Devon last night. Not the easiest journey when her car decided to run
:15:13. > :15:25.out of oil but it got here eventually. Very good. She got it
:15:26. > :15:34.sorted. I hope we do not get any Tweets, but I think Robert is from
:15:35. > :15:37.Taunton, which is Somerset. He was from Devon! All of these people from
:15:38. > :15:41.Somerset will be tweeting you shortly. Do not bother. Andy is
:15:42. > :16:02.here. It will be fine. It might be two to red. I would like
:16:03. > :16:06.to know what the position is. It is difficult to tell. Very close on the
:16:07. > :16:15.second one. Definitely one red. On the draw. A chance to rest off his
:16:16. > :16:20.own bowl. Just needs to reach up to the jack and he has got a chance.
:16:21. > :16:26.That lacked a little bit. Good effort. A very good effort. Another
:16:27. > :16:32.foot away and it would have carried him past that. A good standard of
:16:33. > :16:44.bowling. Every bowl within 15 inches. A chance here for Robert. He
:16:45. > :16:52.is on the forehand. I just wonder if he is going for this back bowl? That
:16:53. > :17:00.is the plan. He could push the outside green bowl. Very confident
:17:01. > :17:06.shot to take on. I thought he would have dropped on the backhand. That
:17:07. > :17:11.would have secured another. Yes, there was room in the backhand. He
:17:12. > :17:17.has taken the one way I thought he would play for. The referee asking
:17:18. > :17:33.for both of them to be measured. Alan Thornhill will sort this out.
:17:34. > :17:42.The two semifinals were absolutely remarkable in this event. Fantastic
:17:43. > :17:48.bowling from all four players. I agree, David. It was an unbelievable
:17:49. > :17:51.standard for a semifinals. Ulf David Gourlay and Alex Marshall will be
:17:52. > :18:19.disappointed. They put on wonderful displays.
:18:20. > :18:32.Referee macro 28.5 metres. Jack links. --
:18:33. > :18:40.potentially 25 ands in this match. Going by the two semifinals I would
:18:41. > :18:48.not be surprised if we need them all. Not a lot between the players
:18:49. > :19:18.here. Certainly a good standard. I agree.
:19:19. > :19:27.It is very easy to get caught dropping short and that forehand
:19:28. > :19:33.away from the commentary position. It has been quite a common bowl all
:19:34. > :19:36.week, finishing the yard down in the centre. Nicky changing to the
:19:37. > :20:12.backhand. That is well played. Nicky is somebody who is local,
:20:13. > :20:16.lives in Peterborough. Not too far from Nicky. That is why he has got
:20:17. > :20:26.good support in the crowd. That lacks a little bit of pace.
:20:27. > :20:29.good support in the crowd. That has to be careful here. He obviously
:20:30. > :20:32.won't want to touch the red ball down. Even if he does, there is a
:20:33. > :20:50.good chance the red will move. That is a handy bowl. He might need
:20:51. > :21:01.that after the next one. Green bowl out is a perfect result. Red bowl
:21:02. > :21:07.onto jack is a good result. REFEREE: Robert, your bowl has just fallen.
:21:08. > :21:11.That is not really going to help him. It makes it a bit harder. It
:21:12. > :21:29.makes it now a draw. He got very close to it. Except that
:21:30. > :21:38.bowl had not fallen, you would have made that. A clear run.
:21:39. > :21:48.Unfortunately, gets a nick. From a tactical point of view, he
:21:49. > :22:27.has gone is likely shorter From a tactical point of view, he
:22:28. > :22:35.length. -- he has gone slightly shorter. Most players have played it
:22:36. > :22:36.on the tee. This is 26.5. Yes, guaranteeing the length by bringing
:22:37. > :22:40.the mat or per. It means he is guaranteeing the length by bringing
:22:41. > :22:51.long for the jack. He is still OK. I think the length has been chosen
:22:52. > :22:56.more to do with trying to get the bowls back to centre rink than
:22:57. > :23:23.anything. Yes, I think so. Robert is the one who has founded.
:23:24. > :24:17.Nicky needs another bowl in here. It dropped away. He will try to think
:24:18. > :24:25.of anything he might change. A double shot available. Good forehand
:24:26. > :24:33.shot. Good attacking ball from Robert. Good position if he moves
:24:34. > :24:44.the jack. Will you get back. Struggling. Good weight. It was a
:24:45. > :24:49.good weight, particularly from picking up the jack, but hard to
:24:50. > :24:57.narrow that line. If he does, it will come across very quickly. Nicky
:24:58. > :25:01.again needs to get another one in. I think Robert might be more positive
:25:02. > :25:12.with the final delivery. I don't think he is here.
:25:13. > :25:22.I think you should be going for this. Just playing the inside line
:25:23. > :25:32.you should have a little bit of extra weight. Close. Just not
:25:33. > :25:41.enough. A thicker edge and he was onto the jack. He was. I think that
:25:42. > :25:50.was the first big opportunity for any player to score a count but
:25:51. > :25:55.Robert just failed. Nicky will be thinking he got away with that
:25:56. > :26:11.little bit. I think you will. -- I think he will. Early days in this 11
:26:12. > :26:56.and set. -- end. REFEREE: travelling 26 metres.
:26:57. > :27:09.Once again that forehand. I don't know why it is. I think maybe there
:27:10. > :27:14.is a different line on it sometimes. It should not be the case but I
:27:15. > :27:18.cannot think of any other reason. It does appear that once you get into
:27:19. > :27:28.the centre, the bowl seems to slow down. For some reason again, I don't
:27:29. > :27:38.know why. It should not be the case. Through the gap for a second.
:27:39. > :27:57.Nicky quickly on the mark. He does not hesitate. Just didn't catch it.
:27:58. > :27:58.The red bowl was his target. Same sort of shot for Robert as his last.
:27:59. > :28:15.A slight correction. Not there. That is going to be a
:28:16. > :28:25.very good protector for the green ball. -- bowl. It certainly is. The
:28:26. > :28:45.same with his previous delivery, I think it will be a backhand draw.
:28:46. > :29:00.That struggled as well. Nothing really close. I do not think it is a
:29:01. > :29:05.draw. Two seconds. The problem for Robert is getting around his own
:29:06. > :29:14.short bowl with sufficient weight to turn the green eyed. He can afford
:29:15. > :29:18.to be reasonably positive. Yes, just a draw, quite right, Robert. Don't
:29:19. > :29:27.be too adventurous at the moment. Only one down. He has got it.
:29:28. > :29:47.APPLAUSE So good on that last bowl.
:29:48. > :29:52.I think we will see a different jack Link from Robert, I will expect to
:29:53. > :30:39.see it on the tee. Once again, Robert getting caught by
:30:40. > :30:42.that short bowl. First delivery. It gives you
:30:43. > :31:07.problems later on. You are always looking for the
:31:08. > :31:11.correction, Andy, if you don't make the correction, you end up in a heap
:31:12. > :31:19.of trouble which is what is going to happen now. Correction not made.
:31:20. > :31:25.Two down. You can't keep leaving it to the last bowl. If Nicky gets a
:31:26. > :31:27.good shot, there could be a bit of trouble.
:31:28. > :31:37.This one is counting, how close is it?
:31:38. > :31:51.It is still a draw. Just that extra push that is needed,
:31:52. > :31:56.without over correcting. This looks better.
:31:57. > :32:00.It is still burning. That is the danger, the over
:32:01. > :32:06.correcting. You are frightened of dropping short again, so you push
:32:07. > :32:10.that little bit more. I would expect Nicky to add number
:32:11. > :32:16.three here. These ends are dangerous because the
:32:17. > :32:25.target... He doesn't really want the jack here.
:32:26. > :32:32.Nicky's last delivery, touches the jack, doesn't move it.
:32:33. > :32:37.A very narrow target. Not very appetising for him.
:32:38. > :32:43.Sticking to the door. Try to get at least a second bowl.
:32:44. > :32:46.Can't blame him to stay in the draw but he had to negotiate his own
:32:47. > :32:55.front ones first. No. If it had dropped the other way.
:32:56. > :32:59.A very good end for Nick. My 12 turn onto the forehand and
:33:00. > :33:03.leave that bread bowl. I would agree, David, he doesn't
:33:04. > :33:13.want to push Robert's bowl. Forehand drawl.
:33:14. > :33:24.-- draw. Robert had a good weight with his
:33:25. > :33:27.last bowl. This one looks a little bit heavy.
:33:28. > :33:32.He has missed the spare shot bit heavy.
:33:33. > :33:40.He would be happy with that. However, he will be happy to score
:33:41. > :33:45.three. Robert was dipping into that, so
:33:46. > :33:50.effective. On this occasion, he came up drive.
:33:51. > :34:06.You can't rely on the last bowl all the time.
:34:07. > :34:54.He is bowl going.
:34:55. > :35:15.That will start to play on his mind. Nick is getting good bowls in.
:35:16. > :35:21.Coming up really close. Robert will hope to correct with
:35:22. > :35:26.this one. You would expect Robert Paxton to be drawing the shot here.
:35:27. > :35:31.It looks wide, wide and heavy, I think.
:35:32. > :35:35.It looks wide, wide and heavy, I The line was ending up pretty good.
:35:36. > :35:39.It looks wide, wide and heavy, I Into the centre drink, just a bit
:35:40. > :35:43.pushy. To make sure he didn't drop short. That is more the worry for
:35:44. > :35:48.Robert, just hasn't got the feel of the rink in the last couple of ends
:35:49. > :35:54.in particular. His first bowl has been a problem. Just pushing the
:35:55. > :36:09.bowl... A bit of a shoulder. REFEREE: Three inches short of jack
:36:10. > :36:17.high. Just get the arm a bit looser. Tried
:36:18. > :36:24.to put the jack in the ditch, take the green bowls out.
:36:25. > :36:32.That is better. Good stuff, bang on target.
:36:33. > :36:37.You can see the white dot to the right-hand side. Robert will be very
:36:38. > :36:43.happy with pushing things out, getting a bit of space around the
:36:44. > :36:50.jack. We see it replaced. The red light short. At least four
:36:51. > :37:03.off I feat. Nicky Brett will draw, how close will it be? -- four or
:37:04. > :37:11.five feet. The question is... The jack in the
:37:12. > :37:21.ditch is worth two. He is going again, the jack in the
:37:22. > :37:28.ditch is worth two. He needs to hold on, slightly on the
:37:29. > :37:35.inside. Well done, Robert. That is a very good bowl. Absolutely solid.
:37:36. > :37:40.The jack was worth a double. Find delivery from Robert. He takes
:37:41. > :37:49.the green bowl out, probably has one shot.
:37:50. > :37:57.It is a long way away. It is always very difficult.
:37:58. > :38:05.When bowls are six feet away, it is difficult to judge. That one is not
:38:06. > :38:08.in the measure, obviously. The running bowl just ran on through.
:38:09. > :38:28.Two here would be a massive result. These are long sets, 11 ends. The
:38:29. > :38:32.shot is being taken away. Although with a mission that this,
:38:33. > :38:39.it might seem a little bit antiquated, we have tried lasers and
:38:40. > :38:47.sonic measures, various other devices. To be truthful with you,
:38:48. > :38:51.they just don't work. I think the players do prefer this
:38:52. > :38:54.method. It looks like it could be two.
:38:55. > :39:08.There is a situation of human error. The bowls officials are very highly
:39:09. > :39:19.respected, by the players. They are happy to see them do their jobs. A
:39:20. > :39:24.good score for Robert. The sonic measure was an interesting piece of
:39:25. > :39:30.equipment but just wasn't reliable. No. It had to be basically level
:39:31. > :39:37.with the bowl. It wasn't always consistent. We are better back with
:39:38. > :39:41.the strings. Try using a sonic measure when the
:39:42. > :39:46.jack is in the ditch, completely obsolete then.
:39:47. > :39:51.Robert, you have to get this first bowl up.
:39:52. > :39:55.It has been the failing really, he is hanging on in this set.
:39:56. > :40:01.He may be thinking of changing hands.
:40:02. > :40:04.Constantly dropping two feet short in this direction.
:40:05. > :40:14.At the moment, the first bowl is hampered linking -- him.
:40:15. > :40:25.Might have affected the speed of the carpet.
:40:26. > :40:57.Nick, giving this a chance, even of his own bowl, doesn't want the gap.
:40:58. > :41:03.Clean through. Still, a good one. Good position bowl. It is fair to
:41:04. > :41:09.say, Andy, the rink is playing a bit slower this year. It appears, for
:41:10. > :41:15.some reason, to have actually produced great actors.
:41:16. > :41:21.You are right. A lot of the games I have really enjoyed. I think players
:41:22. > :41:32.will adapt to a slower green. The lines become tricky.
:41:33. > :41:41.Similar bowl to the last. Certainly, the, he will have to use the bowl
:41:42. > :41:49.this time. Not sure if that has affected things. Still one red.
:41:50. > :42:01.Robert still has too played the back and even if he gets into that gap.
:42:02. > :42:33.REFEREE: Time out called. Robert has five Time outs remaining.
:42:34. > :42:40.He has gone across into a decent position, properly another shot, but
:42:41. > :42:43.not what he was looking for, he was looking for the split.
:42:44. > :42:51.He has given Nicky a chance here. Final delivery scores. It gives
:42:52. > :42:55.Nicky a chance to be positive. A chance of moving the jack back.
:42:56. > :42:58.Backhand with a little bit of weight to see if he can get into the split
:42:59. > :43:09.of the bowls. Looks to be under. Oh, to see if he can get into the split
:43:10. > :43:11.well, one in, one out, baby. I think that is what has happened.
:43:12. > :43:26.Two. -- one out, maybe.
:43:27. > :43:36.REFEREE: Dawlat shots, Robert Paxton.
:43:37. > :44:04.Slight movement in the crowd, both players are aware of it. Just
:44:05. > :44:47.getting on with it. Again, that forehand of Robert.
:44:48. > :44:48.Change to the facts and this time to see what happens. Doing well to
:44:49. > :44:57.fight back into this set. This will be the only problem for
:44:58. > :45:22.players never letting bowls go. It is in the brain, saying, I am
:45:23. > :45:24.good. Then a dropped shot. That is better from Nicky. A problem for
:45:25. > :45:50.Robert. That is an interesting choice, to
:45:51. > :45:51.come around on the forehand. Probably the only had he could draw
:45:52. > :46:00.the shot on. He is close with this. Probably the only had he could draw
:46:01. > :46:03.Good enough? Just not enough. But a very good effort, a very good second
:46:04. > :46:19.shot. He will be happy with that. Both these players are quick
:46:20. > :46:28.players. Just getting on with the game. This looks a nice line. That
:46:29. > :46:31.is a good home. I don't think Robert can do much here other than repeat
:46:32. > :46:58.his last bowl. Another six inches of weight.
:46:59. > :47:10.Again, he is very close. Do you have the weight this time, Robert? Oh,
:47:11. > :47:12.dear me. Take the one, and run. I think he is going to come down and
:47:13. > :47:20.play it, difficult to add another. think he is going to come down and
:47:21. > :47:25.time, having used time think he is going to come down and
:47:26. > :47:35.I think this will be a practice shots. Happy with the one. Keep the
:47:36. > :47:44.set tight. Two ends to play. On the wide side, safe side. That was
:47:45. > :47:49.definitely a practice shot. He wasn't putting his full 100% into
:47:50. > :47:54.that one, very wise. We knew it was going to be tight, not a classic in
:47:55. > :48:01.terms of some of the burning, but it has been intense. Certainly tense.
:48:02. > :48:06.So surprised. -- in terms of the bowling.
:48:07. > :48:10.I think the opening bowls have meant it has not been a classic. Both
:48:11. > :48:19.players have struggled to get close for the opening bowl, that normally
:48:20. > :48:28.creates the heads, the heavy bowl. Not unusual we have to say for a
:48:29. > :48:32.world final as well, never easy, both players must be at the top of
:48:33. > :48:35.their form. He turned his back on that one, it is not that bad.
:48:36. > :49:01.Definitely not that bad. Robert Hickey sure he's through with
:49:02. > :49:06.the first. Just a bit further than he would want. We are getting some
:49:07. > :49:13.information on the tweets, Craig Burgess saying, when he played
:49:14. > :49:18.against you some 20 years ago. Craig is doing a lot on the short game,
:49:19. > :49:35.another of bowls which very popular. Derek is asking, Dave Cutler is was
:49:36. > :49:38.here with a group from the Met. David Cutler from the days of
:49:39. > :49:49.Commonwealth Games and international is. Yes, I know David, speaking to
:49:50. > :49:54.him at lunch time. Reminiscing the world gold pairs level we won almost
:49:55. > :49:58.20 years ago I think. It was if you years ago, Andy, 20 years ago, my
:49:59. > :49:59.goodness me. Very good bowl, very good
:50:00. > :50:15.correction. Not a particularly easy
:50:16. > :50:24.championships. Down in Adelaide. Along with Tony Allcock. Fast
:50:25. > :50:28.greens. A chance with this. Just need to get the connection right,
:50:29. > :50:35.oh, he has got the edge. A solid bowl and missed it. It would have
:50:36. > :50:37.been perfect. What does Robert do here, Andy?
:50:38. > :50:46.He doesn't have a lock to do, probably just a forehand draw. But
:50:47. > :50:51.Nick has all the play here. There is an advantage with the forehand, if
:50:52. > :50:57.it drops short, it will give him a protecting bowl. We have talked
:50:58. > :51:04.about Nicky's running bowl, we might see one shortly. He is trying very
:51:05. > :51:09.hard this, gentle on the jack, doesn't want to move it too far. Oh,
:51:10. > :51:15.dear. It is not too bad actually. But I think it will create an
:51:16. > :51:18.opportunity for Nick to play the two bowls.
:51:19. > :51:25.I don't know. I think now it is just a backhand draw for Nick. We can see
:51:26. > :51:32.the plant pushes the red bowl. I know he is two damn but I still
:51:33. > :51:37.think this will be a backhand draw. Forehand one would be the best he
:51:38. > :51:45.can hope for. We spotted jack. And a lot of room in it. This end, 7-7,
:51:46. > :51:56.you don't want to lose a double. He is two down, so, backhand draw.
:51:57. > :52:00.Touching the jack is a bonus. He is certainly on a good height for it,
:52:01. > :52:06.has he got the pace to make it run? I think he has. I thought he was
:52:07. > :52:13.trying to get a thin edge. Didn't make it. Robert having a good look.
:52:14. > :52:16.He knows he is lying two. It is not easy but it is at least not too
:52:17. > :52:22.dangerous. I think he will throw the bowl out.
:52:23. > :52:24.I don't think he will be concerned. He will be in the high side here on
:52:25. > :52:40.the backhand. This will be out on a wider line
:52:41. > :52:48.than normal. Just trying to keep good weight and drop in. Just not
:52:49. > :52:49.getting back. It got back beautifully, it was just over the
:52:50. > :53:12.weight. Not a guarantee, if you have made a
:53:13. > :53:15.third, it would have been. I think so. Two gives him a good
:53:16. > :53:28.cushion, he can afford to lose one. Nick, just off for a moment there,
:53:29. > :53:35.of water. As we see Sandra McLeish here for the last time at world --
:53:36. > :53:42.at a world Bowls tour event. We will miss you, Sandra.
:53:43. > :53:54.Robert, this is the hand dropping short a lot with the first bowl.
:53:55. > :54:03.Not bad, Andy. It is OK. Reasonable opener.
:54:04. > :54:12.Sandra McLeish, an international in her own right in Scotland, they call
:54:13. > :54:18.them internationalist Lovell. -- inernationalists.
:54:19. > :54:38.APPLAUSE REFEREE: Three inches. Roberts will
:54:39. > :54:42.try to keep bowls in the head, if he has to lose any, just the opening
:54:43. > :54:52.bowl. Something wrong with this one.
:54:53. > :54:55.Now he is in trouble. Yes, he is. Possibly two downplaying his third
:54:56. > :55:01.delivery. I am surprised.
:55:02. > :55:06.He could have made the gap. Nicky made the gap.
:55:07. > :55:24.Just a matter of getting back. Again, it is not bad. Robert Paxton,
:55:25. > :55:28.having to go for that big bowl. They look sufficiently far enough where
:55:29. > :55:33.you would stick to the draw. I think so. That second bowl is so
:55:34. > :55:41.far away. Backhand draw. He knows if he gets
:55:42. > :55:47.one really good bowl in here, he will have to chase this a bit.
:55:48. > :55:51.Well, it is all down to whether he gets back from there. He is on a
:55:52. > :55:57.wide line. Trying to encourage it but it won't make it. Nick, what do
:55:58. > :56:04.you do, clutter the heads up? I think so, I will be tried to add
:56:05. > :56:09.another, put the pressure on. -- trying.
:56:10. > :56:14.I think he had to take a chance, if he can get in behind the jack, that
:56:15. > :56:22.would be the perfect results. It means if Robert played in runner
:56:23. > :56:26.would be the perfect results. It Either side of the Red Bull.
:56:27. > :56:30.would be the perfect results. It to clutter up the backhand too much.
:56:31. > :56:42.would be the perfect results. It -- the red bowl.
:56:43. > :56:51.would be the perfect results. It danger is if Robert puts the running
:56:52. > :56:54.bowl. Bowl on the jack, the bowl will be
:56:55. > :57:01.pushed into the ditch. Probably one down. Even the follow-through, he
:57:02. > :57:09.might get the shot. Plenty of time. There is also a case
:57:10. > :57:14.for a draw here. The way he has played this end, he is struggling
:57:15. > :57:22.for draw weight. He has to push into it, surely?
:57:23. > :57:34.He is under. He wanted it on the jack. A chance of getting two bowls.
:57:35. > :57:39.He is still asking Nicky to draw within a foot and those two red
:57:40. > :57:42.bowls will be in the way. The best percentage shot. Always
:57:43. > :58:01.going to take one away. It chance for Nicky to tie the set. --
:58:02. > :58:05.Switching back onto the other side of the rink, trying to slip this
:58:06. > :58:09.bowl in He doesn't want to get caught.
:58:10. > :58:25.It is very good. Well played. Well played, to score a double.
:58:26. > :58:32.Under a lot of pressure with that final delivery.
:58:33. > :58:41.REFEREE: First set, tie. I don't think any player has been
:58:42. > :58:46.dominant so that is a fair call. Using the corner of the bowl, adds
:58:47. > :58:51.another. He was delighted. Yes. He knew that as soon as it
:58:52. > :58:53.started to bend and into the inside half. He had enough weight to slide
:58:54. > :59:02.through. Two players, just chatting half. He had enough weight to slide
:59:03. > :59:06.away to each other. Two international colleagues. They knew
:59:07. > :59:11.each other well when it comes to playing the game. And Louise, does
:59:12. > :59:12.she look tense or what? I don't think she is enjoying this.
:59:13. > :59:25.Understandable. A1 Schechter shoot out possibly for
:59:26. > :59:43.the title? -- one set shoot out. In WBT matches they are very
:59:44. > :00:01.similar. Nicky Brett has played 70 on the
:00:02. > :00:08.tour and won 48. Three titles for Nicky, just the one for Robert.
:00:09. > :00:11.Nicky has been the player of the year. The man to beat in all events
:00:12. > :00:21.over the last couple of years, really. Robert has won the press. --
:00:22. > :00:43.the pairs. Again he tried to play big bowls
:00:44. > :01:04.with third and fourth. I don't think this is running. If
:01:05. > :01:12.there has been any fault with Robert, it has been those short
:01:13. > :01:16.bowls. When he analyses this performance, he will know that he
:01:17. > :01:25.had far too many. A big chance for a Nicky. Robert is in trouble here.
:01:26. > :01:36.That was a good plan. It was a good plan. Robert will have a look at it.
:01:37. > :01:41.Robert will be looking at that. He is a little bit on the wide side. He
:01:42. > :01:49.could always get the bowl to go solid. That one is not guaranteeing
:01:50. > :01:54.anything. The advantage of getting the front one is it will go through
:01:55. > :01:59.with the jack in this position. He could play the draw but the best he
:02:00. > :02:06.could hope for is second, maybe third shot. No guarantees on the
:02:07. > :02:16.running bowl extra either -- running bowl either. That was high. The body
:02:17. > :02:26.language said everything. A great start for Nick Brett. That final
:02:27. > :02:31.delivery from Nick in the first set has given him some confidence, I
:02:32. > :02:46.think. A good chance to score an opening four. It is almost as if it
:02:47. > :03:01.was a body blow for Robert. Number four coming in. Absolutely no
:03:02. > :03:07.problem for Nick Brett. Four very good bowls. The problem for Robert
:03:08. > :03:15.was created by his first deliveries, which were short. To be fair, in the
:03:16. > :03:17.first set, Robert had a few loose opening bowls. He has two pick his
:03:18. > :04:27.game up, Robert. It is amazing, all the girls love to
:04:28. > :04:33.have a little wave. Chloe and Lauren are there, two of Nicky's daughters.
:04:34. > :04:44.The boys just sit and try to look cool. They will be looking forward
:04:45. > :04:54.to seeing that when they get back and having a look at the game.
:04:55. > :05:08.It is available, on BBC iPlayer, of course.
:05:09. > :05:12.Well done. He is having to make that pressure all the time. You really
:05:13. > :05:14.want to be adding a double rather than trying to get that single in.
:05:15. > :05:35.Exactly. That was a great try. I heard a
:05:36. > :05:46.squeal from one of the girls there! Excited about their dad. Nicky Brett
:05:47. > :05:56.loves his bowls, all competitions. He has got a good daughter as well,
:05:57. > :06:06.Chloe, a fairly good player. That is brilliant. That is the sort of form
:06:07. > :06:13.shot Robert was playing in the semifinal. He knows he needs to up
:06:14. > :06:18.his play. It does not leave much for neck. It certainly doesn't. I cannot
:06:19. > :06:26.believe we have not seen a running bowl from Nicky. I do not think it
:06:27. > :06:39.is on, to be honest. I cannot believe we have actually gone ten
:06:40. > :06:42.ends without seeing a running ball. Still a draw shot available. He is
:06:43. > :06:50.looking to see if he can drop on his own bowl and if that will make an
:06:51. > :07:20.extra foot. He will try to rest on to his own red.
:07:21. > :07:33.I think it was difficult to add another, really. That was shot to
:07:34. > :07:44.nothing. Still, after losing four, getting the two back was excellent.
:07:45. > :07:55.A bit more relaxed now that her man is back in the game. I am not really
:07:56. > :08:01.sure if the willies ever relaxes when Robert is playing. Yes, a good
:08:02. > :08:03.supporter. Always about when Robert is in major finals. And add the
:08:04. > :08:12.international series. Change of length here from Robert.
:08:13. > :08:50.Three quarters. That is a good one. It has been one
:08:51. > :08:55.of his best though. Yes, he has not had a front touch too often.
:08:56. > :09:03.of his best though. Yes, he has not certainly won the battle with the
:09:04. > :09:17.front bowls. That was a good effort. A good bowl. Lots of the regulars
:09:18. > :09:30.are watching. Andy Newell loves watching the bowls. Loves playing as
:09:31. > :09:37.well. A good bowl course --. Well done. We are still waiting for our
:09:38. > :09:45.first bowls event in Jamaica, but if anybody can do it, and the can. You
:09:46. > :09:55.will no doubt be commentating there. If I get asked! Still good headers
:09:56. > :10:00.for Nicky Brett. Robert has only got one bowl on the rink.
:10:01. > :10:02.for Nicky Brett. Robert has only got draw for Nicky. Trying to give
:10:03. > :10:26.Robert more problems. He just does not want to frame the
:10:27. > :10:33.black. -- jack. That is very good. Nicky has got the last bowl as well.
:10:34. > :10:34.Forcing Robert onto the draw. After the running ball, that is never
:10:35. > :10:48.easy. Slightly wide. Who would like to
:10:49. > :10:50.have arrived with that weight. Another chance for Nicky to pick up
:10:51. > :10:57.a big count. The first Another chance for Nicky to pick up
:10:58. > :11:12.in the game really to stretch a would be a good lead.
:11:13. > :11:33.Well played, Nicky. 100%. Robert just not finding his true form in
:11:34. > :11:35.this match. 7-2. Not all over yet. But Nicky has a good lead in this
:11:36. > :12:07.game. REFEREE: jack length, 28.5 metres.
:12:08. > :12:12.Very heavy scoring in the world final in getting a four and a three.
:12:13. > :12:17.And as you say, Nicky has not been forced into the running bowls, which
:12:18. > :12:21.is remarkable, really,, because we thought there would be a lot of
:12:22. > :12:27.those in this match. I think that is probably an indication that Robert
:12:28. > :13:22.is not getting close enough for him to play those kind of bowls.
:13:23. > :13:37.That is good. Yes, it gives him a chance. Six inches weight, barely
:13:38. > :13:53.got a murmur. It is a tough crowd out there, Andy. This is perfect. He
:13:54. > :13:58.is just moving up a gear in the second set. Unfortunately Robert is
:13:59. > :14:04.being forced into playing some very difficult shots. This is not going
:14:05. > :14:14.to be easy. Two bowls could go out if he strikes this. Oh, dear! That
:14:15. > :14:20.is a horrible result. When you get something like that at this stage
:14:21. > :14:25.and your five down, the first thing that comes into your mind is, it is
:14:26. > :14:32.maybe not my day. Yes, possibly. It was a good strike. There wasn't a
:14:33. > :14:39.lot going for him. Danger signs for Robert Paxton. Three down. He is
:14:40. > :14:54.glad to have two draw with the next one. -- to draw.
:14:55. > :15:00.REFEREE: Time-Out called. Nick Brett is looking very good
:15:01. > :15:10.here. The family will go absolutely mad if he picks up a three or a four
:15:11. > :15:14.on this end. A four would almost secure the game. I know it is only
:15:15. > :15:24.the fourth end but it would be a healthy lead. A second shot would be
:15:25. > :15:31.good. Very good. There are too many holes in there. You could flick off
:15:32. > :15:34.one bowl and leave three. Normally Robert Wood walked down and just
:15:35. > :15:42.draw this shot and would not even give it a second thought. -- will
:15:43. > :15:47.walk down. This is awkward. Four damn, what looks a forehand runner.
:15:48. > :15:58.As you say, the corner of any green ball runs away and drops three. He
:15:59. > :16:02.would be four down on the re-spot. It is a brave shot if he goes for
:16:03. > :16:14.it. And if he is on the forehand, he is. This is crucial.
:16:15. > :16:26.He has taken two away. A reasonable result, shall we say. Yes. I can
:16:27. > :16:34.understand why he went red. It was a very brave shot but very difficult
:16:35. > :16:43.one. 9-2 is a good lead for Nicky Brett. You just cannot imagine what
:16:44. > :16:58.his family is going the moment. Seven up with seven ands to go. --
:16:59. > :17:00.ends. REFEREE: jack is 28.5 metres. All is going well in the Brett
:17:01. > :17:54.family. They are happy. It is now a matter of just trying to
:17:55. > :18:01.scratch away through, scoring singles to get back within four or
:18:02. > :18:05.five shots with three ends to go. 9-2 is not a winning lead but it is
:18:06. > :18:10.a good lead. Nicky Brett has definitely picked his play up. He
:18:11. > :18:16.has moved up a gear in the second set. A lot of support I'd there. A
:18:17. > :18:21.lot of noise for him. I do not think that will bother Robert. He knows
:18:22. > :18:28.that most of the audience want Nicky to win. But they are fair. They have
:18:29. > :18:37.been very fair. Bowls audiences are generally. That needed to hold.
:18:38. > :18:57.Still one to green. He does not want to leave that green
:18:58. > :19:05.one sitting where it is. I think he has given the shot away but it is
:19:06. > :19:07.probably a safer position. He has got a good head. Needs to play a
:19:08. > :19:28.good bowl to score a double. This will just be a draw for Nicky.
:19:29. > :19:37.Nothing spectacular needed. Backhand draw. You get the impression that
:19:38. > :19:45.Robert really needed another one there. Just the way Nicky is
:19:46. > :19:48.playing, you expecting to be very close to this.
:19:49. > :20:17.-- expect him. I think he likes it. Very close. If
:20:18. > :20:25.you had picked up that jack are around the corner I think it
:20:26. > :20:26.would've been end of the game. You really feel Robert has to make this
:20:27. > :21:02.one. Well played, Robert. Excellent
:21:03. > :21:04.stuff. Got the spare shot. Now, will we see a change of length and a
:21:05. > :21:28.change of patronage -- patter and? He has only got the match
:21:29. > :21:33.couple of metres. -- mat. Not quite minimum but 24, 25, I would think.
:21:34. > :22:23.REFEREE: jack length, 23 metres. On a new length like this it takes
:22:24. > :22:29.both players nearly a bowl or two to come to terms.
:22:30. > :23:04.REFEREE: the gap is nearly nine inches.
:23:05. > :23:12.He may give another away here. Not sufficiently far
:23:13. > :23:17.He may give another away here. Not might see Robert just change now.
:23:18. > :23:30.Nicky could play an attacking bowl if he wants to. That was unlucky.
:23:31. > :23:36.That really is unlucky. He has framed the jack. He knows it. I do
:23:37. > :23:40.not think Nicky is going framed the jack. He knows it. I do
:23:41. > :23:53.disappoint bit this time. I think we might see the runner.
:23:54. > :24:00.He has taken away all the danger. That was because of Robert's contact
:24:01. > :24:07.with the front bowl. It was unlucky the way it broke for him. Framed the
:24:08. > :24:09.head and made it easy for Nicky. Just the one bowl Shoot Out now,
:24:10. > :24:28.really. You could hear the cheers for
:24:29. > :24:36.Robert's bowl. He has got plenty of support here as well. They are also
:24:37. > :24:38.hoping for a good game. I fancy a tie-break. They would like to see a
:24:39. > :24:57.tie-break. Just over the weight. The line was
:24:58. > :25:01.good. Second bowl. As I was saying earlier, Robert needs to put their
:25:02. > :25:08.head down, scratch a few shots out and see if he can get close to Nick
:25:09. > :25:10.in the last three ands. -- ends.
:25:11. > :25:24.Absolutely, David. We always have good crowds at this
:25:25. > :25:26.venue. It is one of the venues where you're always guaranteed to get good
:25:27. > :25:45.support. Another short jack length. Robert
:25:46. > :25:46.knew he had to change the length. Changed the length and changed his
:25:47. > :26:39.hand. I think it is still green. Yes, just
:26:40. > :26:55.got a thin edge. He needed more of it than that. Nicky is so quick,
:26:56. > :27:02.really. The shot clock was stopped. They must've been something in way.
:27:03. > :27:06.The officials are very good at that. If it is an external attraction they
:27:07. > :27:10.will stop the clock running down from 30 seconds to zero. That was
:27:11. > :27:37.OK. That was useful enough. He got a result there off the green.
:27:38. > :27:49.It looked like he was not going to make it. Maybe two. Close with two,
:27:50. > :27:58.says Sandra. That is a bonus. Still a draw. Nicky Brett, world number
:27:59. > :28:13.one, certainly justifying that position. He does not want to make
:28:14. > :28:22.the gap. Looks good. On green, confirmed by Sandra McLeish. Robert
:28:23. > :28:29.knows exactly what he has to do. He really needs to score at this end.
:28:30. > :28:36.He needs to keep scoring at every end, Robert. He has a reasonable
:28:37. > :28:44.head at this end, Robert. Don't think you can get back from there.
:28:45. > :28:49.That was outside the line out of the hand. Something was not right
:28:50. > :28:56.because the wait was too heavy as well. If Nicky is able to make this
:28:57. > :29:04.a double, I don't really fancy Robert's chances of getting back
:29:05. > :29:10.into it. Robert Mueller was a slight chance to score a single. -- knew
:29:11. > :29:21.that was a slight chance. If Nicky scores a double here he is in the
:29:22. > :29:25.favourite seat. He played that well. Let it drift in so he did not get
:29:26. > :29:33.near the red ball. Family support for Nicky Brett.
:29:34. > :29:44.Still got four ends to go. Alan Thornhill is our umpire,
:29:45. > :29:52.keeping everyone absolutely aware of the correct score, no mistakes.
:29:53. > :29:55.5-11. Because the player in bread is always first.
:29:56. > :30:53.REFEREE: Jack length 28.5 metres. Always feel Robert is one bowl away
:30:54. > :30:59.from playing well. He did well to draw the first set.
:31:00. > :31:03.He did. Nicky's final delivery to tie the first set. Since then,
:31:04. > :31:11.Nicky's performance has been better than Robert.
:31:12. > :31:15.He is going defensive now, a very good single shot, he is more than
:31:16. > :31:21.happy to play the ends down, saying to Robert, you have to draw within
:31:22. > :31:32.two inches to get the shot. More than capable of doing that. But
:31:33. > :31:37.yesterday, he would almost say he would put two inside it.
:31:38. > :31:45.Not so much today. No, he has not hit top form today, Robert. But that
:31:46. > :31:52.happens. Sometimes more in finals, for the player to catch the form
:31:53. > :32:21.they had been born -- they have been in, all week.
:32:22. > :32:30.This had to be good, even to give him a shoulder to work off. Can't
:32:31. > :32:32.afford to be short. Adding a bit of pressure onto this shot. It is a
:32:33. > :32:40.good bowl, it gives him a chance. Roberts will be looking down the
:32:41. > :32:50.backhand for the next bowl. It is good. Forehand draw is still
:32:51. > :33:15.delivery, just It is good. Forehand draw is still
:33:16. > :33:19.there for Robert, if he wants it, but another
:33:20. > :33:24.there for Robert, if he wants it, that, try and move
:33:25. > :33:31.there for Robert, if he wants it, possible to come
:33:32. > :33:38.excellent. He has to start to take chances.
:33:39. > :33:44.excellent. Once again, it is hard shots, or
:33:45. > :33:48.draw again on the forehand. Obviously, the angles are not good,
:33:49. > :33:53.playing this on the forehand. Probably still the same sort of
:33:54. > :33:59.shot, looking for the front bowl. What a shot that was. How on earth
:34:00. > :34:03.did he see that? Absolute perfection. That didn't
:34:04. > :34:11.look like an option from the commentary position, really didn't.
:34:12. > :34:15.Final delivery, clips the bowl, perfect bowl.
:34:16. > :34:18.That was absolutely brilliant. I'm still trying to work out how he
:34:19. > :34:30.generated the weight. Louise, a little bit happier with
:34:31. > :34:39.that one. 11-7.
:34:40. > :34:42.That was virtually a championship life.
:34:43. > :34:49.I would agree. Dropped a shot there, would have been over. He is back in
:34:50. > :35:02.the game. He has two score in the last three ends, though. -- to
:35:03. > :35:10.score. A marvellous delivery, ageing the
:35:11. > :35:14.bowl. We couldn't see that shot. The angles on the screen didn't allow
:35:15. > :35:17.for that. Didn't think he could possibly get a short one with enough
:35:18. > :35:24.weight. He played it to perfection.
:35:25. > :35:29.Unfortunately, first bowl next end is short. And Nick Brett is all over
:35:30. > :35:35.it yet again. He has put so much pressure on.
:35:36. > :35:42.Robert is an honest player and he should have come off after the game,
:35:43. > :35:45.and said, the opening bowl wasn't good enough to put Nicky under
:35:46. > :35:52.pressure. Taking it deep.
:35:53. > :35:56.Again, planning the odd bowl on the edge of the jack. When you are
:35:57. > :36:06.playing well and things are going while you wait, pick that up. He is
:36:07. > :36:14.mercurial when it comes to scratching out a win. As is this
:36:15. > :36:19.man. Both dug deep in their semifinals
:36:20. > :36:27.against Alex Marshall and David Gourlay, to secure wins.
:36:28. > :36:48.Always placed inside outline. This has to be good. He is on a better
:36:49. > :36:58.chat, I think, it is all about weight. -- plays.
:36:59. > :37:21.Good correction. Bit of tension out there. Both
:37:22. > :37:25.players know that the World Championship title is just about
:37:26. > :37:36.within their grasp. Nicky, are you running? I think he has it close to
:37:37. > :37:46.the weight. Has that dropped into shot, I think it might have. It is
:37:47. > :37:54.close. We need Sandra to tell us. I think it might be one green.
:37:55. > :38:01.Robert Lee should use a time out, it is too important. I don't think he
:38:02. > :38:09.has many time outs left, Robert. Two seconds left.
:38:10. > :38:14.It is all automated. Very nearly lost it.
:38:15. > :38:20.He is looking at this. Need to get the right side of the green bowl. It
:38:21. > :38:24.will be one to green now. When you touch a bowl like that, you will
:38:25. > :38:29.move it half an inch on the carpet. Definitely one green.
:38:30. > :38:39.If it is, Nicky Brett will not be playing his final delivery.
:38:40. > :38:50.No need to. He knows he has won. It got a nice little touch to fall off.
:38:51. > :39:01.12-7, five up, a good position to be in for Nicky Brett. A three, and a
:39:02. > :39:07.two, is what Paxton is looking for. Nicky is saying to himself, just one
:39:08. > :39:11.shot here. He has one hand on the trophy, just waiting to put the
:39:12. > :39:14.other one there. Even if he loses one shot, still in a very strong
:39:15. > :39:21.position. Certainly is.
:39:22. > :40:10.Jack length -- REFEREE: Jack length 27 metres.
:40:11. > :40:13.He will be confused as to where the form has gone this afternoon,
:40:14. > :40:29.really. Is he short? It is as though he hasn't been play
:40:30. > :40:36.in top form. Showing how good he is, applying himself, getting on with
:40:37. > :40:44.the job. A determined character is Robert. Never beat him easy. This
:40:45. > :40:46.one looks under. He has dropped it. That was a chance, a big chance to
:40:47. > :41:04.add the pressure. Wouldn't be surprised if Nicky draws
:41:05. > :41:12.a shot with this. Pressure on. If he draws shot here, it almost wins the
:41:13. > :41:20.game. This was a walking 70. All the pressure from Nicky, you can see the
:41:21. > :41:24.reaction from the family. They are screaming for their dad. REFEREE:
:41:25. > :41:29.Nine inches. They note at the moment he is lying
:41:30. > :41:34.championship game. Roberts is in a bit of trouble here.
:41:35. > :41:43.-- they know. Nothing easy about this one. Moving onto the backhand.
:41:44. > :41:50.He will have one bowl to stay in this championship. I wonder what
:41:51. > :41:57.Nick will do here. Because he knows Robert can pay through, he has got
:41:58. > :42:04.the back position. -- play. Robert could have nowhere to go. The
:42:05. > :42:09.alternative is, Andy, you know what it is like, stay away from it.
:42:10. > :42:15.Yes. There is a case that and I think he is actually staying away.
:42:16. > :42:19.Keeping it high. He is on the right side of it but he was to be passed
:42:20. > :42:25.jack high, he is, that is a good bowl. Robert has got absolutely
:42:26. > :42:29.nothing behind the jack coming he has to try and turn his own bowl
:42:30. > :42:38.over with a shot. Possibly score two or three.
:42:39. > :42:42.This man is the world champion. He is not showing it. A little puff
:42:43. > :42:49.there. It is what he has been working for all these years. He is
:42:50. > :42:55.in the area. Let us see how it pans out. He has got it, got the single
:42:56. > :42:59.he needs to go to the next end, Nick Brett will have to wait.
:43:00. > :43:06.APPLAUSE Good bowl, always in the area.
:43:07. > :43:26.Keeps the game going. Robert has scored five ends out of
:43:27. > :43:31.the pen, same as Nick, and he is four behind. Big four scores cost
:43:32. > :43:35.him. Louise is almost resigned to this
:43:36. > :43:41.now. A four in the final end is there.
:43:42. > :43:46.You don't tend to get them. Don't get them when you need them.
:43:47. > :43:53.Exactly. Plenty of time. No need for the...
:43:54. > :44:14.No need for the shot clock in the first bowl, so plenty of time.
:44:15. > :44:19.If it had been behind the jack, Andy, it would have been a
:44:20. > :44:26.possibility. I would expect Nicky to beat that.
:44:27. > :44:29.That would be the game. Expecting to beat it with the first
:44:30. > :44:37.one. Which he has. That is excellent. All
:44:38. > :44:43.he is doing is trying to pack the head with bowls.
:44:44. > :44:56.I think Robert, unless something dramatic happens, we'll just keep
:44:57. > :44:58.drawing to this. -- well. Yes, close with this one, that is where he
:44:59. > :45:11.wanted the first one. What a lovely position to be in,
:45:12. > :45:14.Andy. I would think Nicky is enjoying
:45:15. > :45:19.this. He can chill a little bit on this
:45:20. > :45:23.end. He knows if he puts another one close, it will build up against
:45:24. > :45:33.Robert. Because that front Red Bull... That is all he needs to do.
:45:34. > :45:38.That front Red Bull will not count. This is an impossible situation for
:45:39. > :45:41.Robert. I think he might improve the
:45:42. > :45:48.scoreline for the finish, that is all. Nick, very determined. We
:45:49. > :45:52.always knew, but it is only in the last three years he has come
:45:53. > :45:56.through, adapted his game for the Portable Rink. Robert knows this had
:45:57. > :46:02.to make contact, looking for the front bowl onto this. It could be
:46:03. > :46:04.all over. It has gone. Shake the hand. Robert is already coming.
:46:05. > :46:24.World number one. Nick Brett played really well.
:46:25. > :46:30.Robert Paxton not at his very best. But's wife, Louise, has been
:46:31. > :46:34.accepting it for the last few ends. I think Robert will be the first to
:46:35. > :46:38.accept his performance was not as good as in previous games. Well
:46:39. > :46:42.done, Nick Brett, so pleased for you.
:46:43. > :46:44.His wife can't believe it. It will be a big night tonight, the tears
:46:45. > :46:49.are flowing. No one deserves it more be a big night tonight, the tears
:46:50. > :46:58.than Nick Brett. Fought be a big night tonight, the tears
:46:59. > :47:00.qualifying if you years ago. The crowd are on their feet to the
:47:01. > :47:07.new world champion, Nicky Brett. A good effort by Robert Paxton but
:47:08. > :47:25.just not enough. for a decade. Robert Paxton, last
:47:26. > :47:32.bowl, proving he was in good form for this match.
:47:33. > :47:34.Nicky Brett get the double he needs to go 9-9. Look at the reaction, to
:47:35. > :47:40.level the first set. to go 9-9. Look at the reaction, to
:47:41. > :47:48.The first end, Nicky Drew another one in 44 but Robert not letting go.
:47:49. > :47:54.Proving that the hands... Just moving through, a big bowl to go 7-2
:47:55. > :48:00.in front on the fourth end. Moving on to the last bowl for Robert, for
:48:01. > :48:06.two. Again that edge, how on earth he got that bowl out, I don't know.
:48:07. > :48:14.A brilliant bowl. Nick Brett celebrates. Good friends,
:48:15. > :48:14.Robert Paxton and Robert saying congratulations, always just
:48:15. > :48:25.second-best on the day. Not much between this as you can
:48:26. > :48:28.tell. Really down to the big scores of
:48:29. > :48:39.Nick Brett. Nick Brett, the world number one and
:48:40. > :48:47.now the world champion, it doesn't get any better.
:48:48. > :48:50.I am with the runner up and world champion, first of all, Robert, it
:48:51. > :48:55.day at the office, one or two things didn't go your way, how do some it
:48:56. > :48:58.up? Disappointed, obviously, world
:48:59. > :49:05.final, not coming out on top. One end cost me the first set, down the
:49:06. > :49:09.bottom which Nicky capitalised on. Then give him a seven shot lead, you
:49:10. > :49:14.are chasing. People hate making its gizzards, you
:49:15. > :49:19.did have a tough match which was epic, was it difficult to lift
:49:20. > :49:22.yourself again today? Yes, and no. You are in the world final, if you
:49:23. > :49:27.can't lift us up, you shouldn't be here. Credit to Nicky, he has played
:49:28. > :49:31.fantastic in the last few years on the tour.
:49:32. > :49:37.Your performers getting to your first final here? Aneke? Before we
:49:38. > :49:41.get to the nitty-gritty of the match, how does being the world
:49:42. > :49:50.champion sound to you? Pretty bloody good, I'd say!
:49:51. > :49:53.APPLAUSE I think we'll allow that. There were one or two pivotal
:49:54. > :49:58.moments in the match as there always will be in a final. At the end of
:49:59. > :50:03.the first set, the double turned things around.
:50:04. > :50:08.I can't remember any of the game. We are looking at it now. The moment
:50:09. > :50:15.that drag you back. I was quite pleased with this one!
:50:16. > :50:20.Obviously, miss this one, you are a set down.
:50:21. > :50:24.Massive bowl for me, managed to get it.
:50:25. > :50:28.And celebrated. Yesterday, we noticed when you had a good permit
:50:29. > :50:32.against David Gourlay, the body language was positive. After that
:50:33. > :50:38.moment, you picked herself up, start of the second set, credible.
:50:39. > :50:44.You try to look for momentum in the final. It may not have been an epic,
:50:45. > :50:49.a cop ever too much. Rob played some good bowls early doors, I did. We
:50:50. > :50:55.scrapped a bit. A couple of take out shots. All in all, just managed to
:50:56. > :50:59.do enough when it counted. The one thing you most certainly had
:51:00. > :51:04.in your corner today was a lot of support from your family.
:51:05. > :51:10.Yes, I blew them up before they came here.
:51:11. > :51:14.How special is it to have done what he did today in front of your family
:51:15. > :51:16.and friends? First class, I can't thank them
:51:17. > :51:27.enough along. APPLAUSE
:51:28. > :51:33.The crowd were great to me yesterday, I was struggling and they
:51:34. > :51:45.pulled me through against David. My friends and family for coming.
:51:46. > :51:47.Ladies and gentlemen, your 2016 singles champion, Nicky Brett!
:51:48. > :52:10.APPLAUSE This will put a smile on his face
:52:11. > :52:15.because it is now wages time. The men with the money, the managing
:52:16. > :52:19.director for Potters Holidays, Mr John Potter, the group marketing and
:52:20. > :52:30.distribution director the Just Retirement, Mr David Cooper.
:52:31. > :52:37.And, to receive his runners up checks, ladies and gentlemen, Mr
:52:38. > :52:56.Robert Paxton! APPLAUSE
:52:57. > :53:05.But now, it is indeed to the winner, receiving a Langholm glass Chevy, a
:53:06. > :53:11.cheque for ?55,000. And the title of the 20 16th Just Retirement world
:53:12. > :53:11.indoor singles champion, it is Nicky Brett!
:53:12. > :53:38.APPLAUSE ladies and gentlemen, for the first
:53:39. > :53:41.time in his career, the 20 16th Just Retirement world indoor singles
:53:42. > :54:15.champion, Nicky Brett! And a standing ovation for Nicky
:54:16. > :54:20.Brett and Robert Paxton, but for Nicky Brett, the world number one,
:54:21. > :54:24.the moment he has worked his whole bowls life for, David Corkill? Nicky
:54:25. > :54:28.has been around the International Arena for a long time. Like
:54:29. > :54:32.everything else, do you only have one target, the world singles. He
:54:33. > :54:37.was fantastic today. Big moment at the start of the
:54:38. > :54:43.second set, a four. He came into that beautifully,
:54:44. > :54:47.coming off the back during -- of going the second shot. Robert had a
:54:48. > :54:53.bad end. Unfortunately, Nicky took full advantage. It looked easy but
:54:54. > :54:57.it is not. Looking for that full house. Because of the psychological
:54:58. > :55:01.effect on your opponent. You were talking in commentary, when
:55:02. > :55:07.things aren't going for you, they don't. Robert Paxton, fourth end of
:55:08. > :55:11.the second set, misfortune. I was saying earlier, it all depends
:55:12. > :55:18.on whether you get the breaks. When you hit things. That was unlucky. He
:55:19. > :55:22.hit the target perfect, took two of his own bowls and leaves Nicky line
:55:23. > :55:26.three. When that happens, you start to question if it is more day.
:55:27. > :55:30.Your thoughts on Nicky becoming world number one and following up
:55:31. > :55:34.with this world title. Does that make him undisputedly the best
:55:35. > :55:41.player in the world at the moment? No, but what it does make him is
:55:42. > :55:45.world champion, and be confirmed where he is at this moment in time,
:55:46. > :55:49.world number one and world champion. But he needs if you will years to

:58:58. > :59:03.key to it. Follow the line with the hand. Excellent. Excellent action
:59:04. > :59:09.from Rebecca Field. Nice follow-through from Ellen as
:59:10. > :59:33.well. That one dropping a bit short. The
:59:34. > :59:35.chance to make the correction with the last bowl. By then it should be
:59:36. > :00:15.three against her. That may come in useful. I think it
:00:16. > :00:23.is just a draw. No drive shot available really. I don't know if
:00:24. > :00:30.she likes the backhand in this direction. She has not played many
:00:31. > :00:35.good drawing bowls with it. I don't think she has picked a line. Her
:00:36. > :00:44.previous ball was good. Just had to follow that one. Just missed the
:00:45. > :00:47.line. Uncompromising in that situation, that backhand. If you
:00:48. > :01:02.miss the line you will go over very quickly. A good start for Rebecca.
:01:03. > :01:12.3-0 up. I have been asked a question on Twitter about how the umpires
:01:13. > :01:16.George the distance. As they walk up the side of the rink they can
:01:17. > :01:25.calculate exactly where that is in relation to the mat. It makes for a
:01:26. > :01:38.quicker game, so you can set the jack in line.
:01:39. > :01:52.A good start by Rebecca. She has composed herself and is drawing well
:01:53. > :02:08.after the final ends of the first set.
:02:09. > :02:13.14 inches. She still feels confident of toying around with the opening
:02:14. > :02:30.bowl from Eleanor. Inside the bowl. That is OK. That is
:02:31. > :02:42.fine. We do everything in metres now. But bowlers are used to working
:02:43. > :02:45.in inches and feet and yards. Yes, it is all in feet and inches. That
:02:46. > :03:00.is how we have been brought up, really. Of course for schoolchildren
:03:01. > :03:08.now it is all in metric -- metric. On the other countries in the world
:03:09. > :03:14.it is metric. -- in so many others. I think if we were telling our
:03:15. > :03:21.players you a ten centimetres short, they would go, what on earth is
:03:22. > :03:31.that? If you say four inches, they would know exactly where you are. It
:03:32. > :03:36.will be interesting to see what Alan decides here. It will be difficult
:03:37. > :03:41.to draw the shot. I think she will be positive on the backhand. It is a
:03:42. > :03:53.good backhand shot. Yes, just inside the line. Wants to move the bowl,
:03:54. > :04:01.not the jack. She was prepared to take that risk.
:04:02. > :04:11.Here we see Eleanor's bowl, right on the target. If she had hit it full,
:04:12. > :04:23.there might have been a slight touch on the jack. Good running bowl. Yes,
:04:24. > :04:25.she played it well. Rebecca just needs to close her shot, promote her
:04:26. > :04:47.own bowl. Is it one red here? Well, it is
:04:48. > :04:52.showing one red. I think it is. Just. Just hearing a few
:04:53. > :05:18.confirmations that it is red. This needs to stop cancer Eleanor.
:05:19. > :05:32.-- to count for Eleanor. That has gone through. Yes, one to red.
:05:33. > :05:37.Eleanor needed that. -- Ellen. She did not want Rebecca to get any
:05:38. > :05:42.further ahead. Although it is a long set, you do not want your opponent
:05:43. > :05:52.to get four, five, six in front. Keep in touch. Ellen is resisting
:05:53. > :05:58.any temptation to change this length. I just feel as if she is
:05:59. > :06:11.getting a little bit out drawn in this direction.
:06:12. > :06:18.Both players could go short with the jack. It is who is prepared to take
:06:19. > :06:24.the risk first. Rebecca is getting enforced in this direction. I would
:06:25. > :06:42.expect Rebecca to beat that. I chance for Alan. -- a chance for
:06:43. > :07:33.Alan. If Ellen pops another one in, she is
:07:34. > :07:53.in a strong position. That will offer Rebecca and
:07:54. > :07:58.opportunity. She has got the back position. She certainly can afford

:08:14. > :08:20.It teases us into playing the shot but it is still difficult to
:08:21. > :08:30.manufacture. You have to use the mat a lot. Go from the outside in. Yes,
:08:31. > :08:46.get a flat line. Still a chance for Ellen to draw another. This looks
:08:47. > :08:52.better. Not bad. Not bad. It is in. But the two bowls will disappear. I
:08:53. > :08:56.would be inclined to play But the two bowls will disappear. I
:08:57. > :09:03.a bit of weight because there are two chances. Be more positive inside
:09:04. > :09:17.the line. She has thrown it high again. This
:09:18. > :09:23.has to have perfect weight. Sheena will never get that. -- she was
:09:24. > :09:28.never going to get that. She needed to be stronger.
:09:29. > :09:37.never going to get that. She needed from Rebecca. Brilliant effort
:09:38. > :09:47.though. Ellen gets back to tying the set.
:09:48. > :10:03.Magnificent arena. The jack looks fairly safe. Once again, coming up
:10:04. > :10:13.towards the tee. 28.5 metres. Just one short of a full length. A lot of
:10:14. > :10:20.players will use their own bowls. There are pool bowls available which
:10:21. > :10:25.have the correct colour, different manufacturers, weights and grips

:11:48. > :11:55.Forcing Ellen to play the forehand side. She has played a few good
:11:56. > :12:01.bowls down the side, Ellen. She will have to start thinking about leaving
:12:02. > :12:06.off it. Good effort, second bowl. She is happy with that. She has not
:12:07. > :12:09.been getting to the jack Whither backhands in quite some time. --
:12:10. > :13:12.with her backhands. Not really a shot here for Rebecca.
:13:13. > :13:16.Just a draw. A safe one, Andy. Yes, it is a safe one. Hopefully she can
:13:17. > :13:52.pick a two up. Yes, I think that counts. That is
:13:53. > :14:15.close. That is a tight one. Very, very tight indeed.
:14:16. > :14:26.Mike Davies will sort this out. Very simple instrument but incredibly
:14:27. > :14:46.accurate. I love tools, generally, Andy. I am
:14:47. > :14:57.a great one for trying different things out. A good steady hand
:14:58. > :15:06.required when you are holding them, David. Hull yes.
:15:07. > :15:12.My tool shed at home is full of all sorts of weird and wonderful things.
:15:13. > :15:31.Things I have bought over the years or inherited from my father.
:15:32. > :15:40.That is the trouble when you see a book case or something, Andy, and
:15:41. > :15:46.the wife says, you could make that! Not for me. I am not a great DIY
:15:47. > :15:56.man. That looks like a terrible bowl. But I will be truthful, she
:15:57. > :16:02.probably missed the line by about four or five inches. You just get
:16:03. > :16:09.absolutely hammered on that forehand. You absolutely do. The
:16:10. > :16:15.margins of error when you are looking down a tight line are very
:16:16. > :16:23.small. You have to have faith in a big swinging bowl. The chance of a
:16:24. > :16:28.correction here for Rebecca. That is the sign of a good player, ignore
:16:29. > :16:39.the bad bowls, get back and start all over again. That is what she has
:16:40. > :16:41.done. Well played. She is thinking to yourself, if I had pushed that
:16:42. > :16:56.little bit wider...! Lovely correction. This may force
:16:57. > :17:27.onto the back end just a draw. Just needs to keep the weight to
:17:28. > :17:31.hold this up. Very close to it. A lovely view from our commentary
:17:32. > :17:40.position. You could see that ball go down a perfect line. Third delivery,
:17:41. > :17:51.pushes the ball out. Corrected very quickly.
:17:52. > :17:59.Elin playing the background draw. I do not think she has drawn many good
:18:00. > :18:07.shots on the backhand. No. But she is putting it into good position.
:18:08. > :18:14.Rebecca must think about this. A back bowl would be very useful. I
:18:15. > :18:30.think the spot is probably a good spot here, the re-spot.
:18:31. > :18:43.She is certainly not on the re-spot line. No. But she has pushed it out.
:18:44. > :18:47.She will be happy enough with that. If Ellen kills this head, she will
:18:48. > :18:55.score. I think Ellen will be positive here. Good shot. Down on
:18:56. > :18:58.the backhand. You could almost play this on any hand. She would play
:18:59. > :19:27.this heavy on the forehand. She was on target. But just got the
:19:28. > :19:33.perfect edge. She was in the area. However, she just gets a very
:19:34. > :19:41.fortunate edge on the jack. If it had gone through it would've been
:19:42. > :19:47.one to Rebecca. It is fractions, isn't it? It certainly is. Ellen
:19:48. > :19:51.Falkner has been playing the big bowls. That was another one. She is
:19:52. > :20:16.hanging in with the big bowls. The first real change. 26.5 metres.
:20:17. > :20:25.It was going to happen sometime. I think it is a good idea. Ellen has
:20:26. > :20:26.been losing the battle coming in this direction. She has dropped this
:20:27. > :21:28.one short. That is a good tactic. We have people viewing this final
:21:29. > :21:37.all around the world. Stewart in Norway ginning in. -- Chevening in.
:21:38. > :21:48.I know you like to speak many languages, I just wondered if you
:21:49. > :21:55.could reply to him in Norwegian? No. Stuart Gray will be back for the
:21:56. > :22:04.bowling season at Taunton bowling club. I hope it is a summer to
:22:05. > :22:12.enjoy. Chose the perfect bowl. Once again from the forehand side. Yes,
:22:13. > :22:14.losing the battle quite often in the first two. But the recovery bowls
:22:15. > :22:38.have been excellent. Lots of Time-Outs are available but
:22:39. > :22:45.for some reason Ellen is not bothering much. She has got plenty
:22:46. > :22:56.of time here. She has got ten seconds.
:22:57. > :23:13.The target bowl is the green one just beyond the jack.
:23:14. > :23:35.This is just a backhand draw for Rebecca.
:23:36. > :24:05.Rebecca's final delivery. She needed the jack. Bump fist for that one. A
:24:06. > :25:33.big shot for Rebecca. That was not a good one. That is
:25:34. > :25:42.exactly where Ellen will be trying to bring the jack. Ellen asking what
:25:43. > :26:08.is the nearest green bowl. Just a draw. Or, yes! -- hole! There
:26:09. > :26:17.was a bit of a delayed response from the crowd. There we see Ellen's
:26:18. > :26:22.second delivery. Catches the jack. The crowd are anticipating following
:26:23. > :26:36.on the jack. It did not move. Good head of bowls. The inside line was
:26:37. > :26:41.not a particular problem. Elin wants to be a little bit careful here. If
:26:42. > :26:46.that bowl drops, the jack will go to green. I just wonder if she will
:26:47. > :26:51.play the backhand and play safe or be very brave on the forehand.
:26:52. > :26:59.Difficult. I think she will be brave on the forehand. I agree with you.
:27:00. > :27:18.Moves are own red bowl. Yes, she is staying away from it.
:27:19. > :27:35.That was a good bowl. Very handy there. Five bowls all within a foot.
:27:36. > :27:56.Three of them are within six inches. That is good stuff. Good standard.
:27:57. > :28:09.I think I would be taking one here. She is tempted because the movement
:28:10. > :28:13.of the jack is the problem. That is where the danger is. Any touch on
:28:14. > :28:25.that, that jack is going to move and probably end up over there. That was
:28:26. > :28:30.very sensible. I thought she might. It is a match where single shots are
:28:31. > :28:36.so important. Yes, she did not want to go three shots down. She has
:28:37. > :28:46.reduced the deficit to one. Keeps in the game. Ellen Falkner can afford
:28:47. > :29:38.to draw the set. Rebecca has to win it by at least one clear shot.
:29:39. > :29:49.A bit late in the game to start changing. A few ends ago, maybe
:29:50. > :29:56.think about using the forehand. She has been forced onto the
:29:57. > :30:01.forehand. The pattern repeats, often Rebecca in the first, then Ellen
:30:02. > :30:06.retrieves. It is about who scores the shot at the end of the day. Once
:30:07. > :30:11.again, change of hand for Ellen, then a good bowl.
:30:12. > :30:16.That is what she would have been looking for with her first one.
:30:17. > :30:22.As you say, David, sometimes awkward to change near the end of the game.
:30:23. > :30:35.You feel as if it is a bit of a gamble.
:30:36. > :30:43.The player behind really want to score on this end. Force your
:30:44. > :30:50.opponent to chase the match. That is what Rebecca will have to do if she
:30:51. > :30:55.loses the shot here. It is going very quick, needs the jack, got it.
:30:56. > :31:00.She has got it. She is still down.
:31:01. > :31:05.Not enough. Once again, playing this forehand
:31:06. > :31:19.well. Ellen Falkner. But Rebecca coming to have a look at this. I
:31:20. > :31:23.don't think she liked what she sees. The difficulty for Rebecca if she
:31:24. > :31:26.tries to play the forehand, to be careful of the jack.
:31:27. > :31:33.But if she plays a backhand and gets into this area, it has got to be
:31:34. > :31:41.useful if she gets in there. That is where I would be, she has to
:31:42. > :31:42.be behind the head. She will be expecting Ellen to
:31:43. > :32:04.attack this head. Maybe a little bit further than she
:32:05. > :32:11.wanted. Right sort of shot, I think she was trying to get the other side
:32:12. > :32:18.of the Red Bull. -- read bowl.
:32:19. > :32:23.A percentage shot. All sorts of things to come off there. Depends
:32:24. > :32:31.how much weight she uses. Quite a bit. Going strong, will it
:32:32. > :32:36.hold? She is calling it to hold. It almost looks like it was going to
:32:37. > :32:37.hit that one, she was just on the wrong side.
:32:38. > :32:56.Not far away. A great effort. When a stunt like that, all the
:32:57. > :33:00.momentum goes on to the other bowl. Offering Rebecca a safer opportunity
:33:01. > :33:11.for the second shot. She could be braver with this one.
:33:12. > :33:16.No danger in giving it away. Just lacking the pace. Can't blame
:33:17. > :33:24.her. A real chase for home now. Alan
:33:25. > :33:51.really needs to win this next end. -- Ellen.
:33:52. > :34:16.A very tight set here, nine ends, 12 shots scored. Not a lot of big
:34:17. > :34:55.scores flying about. Very few Shot bowl going in. Correction made.
:34:56. > :35:03.Is it dropping away? That Shot bowl going in. Correction made.
:35:04. > :35:34.dropped away from the shot. Showing the bowl has touched the
:35:35. > :35:42.jack. Ellen's second delivery, perfect
:35:43. > :35:49.bowl. This looks went under. That is a forehand inside the line.
:35:50. > :35:54.I don't think Ellen was to try this now.
:35:55. > :35:57.It is quite important that she does add another. Puts her in a good
:35:58. > :36:00.It is quite important that she does position going into the final end.
:36:01. > :36:04.She didn't want to play the forehand and leave a shoulder. She is playing
:36:05. > :36:14.a backhand, trying to come in and around the back of the jack. Gives
:36:15. > :36:21.her a bit of position. This is good. A very handy bowl. It won't be in.
:36:22. > :36:32.But it will be a situation where, if Rebecca misses this, she might well
:36:33. > :36:36.just decide to aim for the four. At this moment, Andy, I would
:36:37. > :36:41.suggest she would be very happy with two.
:36:42. > :36:45.Rebecca am probably one or two down, doesn't make much difference going
:36:46. > :37:00.into the final end. She would not want to drop 83. -- a three.
:37:01. > :37:04.The forehand, if you touch the outside of the red bowl, the chapel
:37:05. > :37:08.go closer to the green. The backhand, she was close to adding
:37:09. > :37:15.another. One more gives her a little bit of space in the last end, she
:37:16. > :37:19.can afford to lose a single. Setting up on the safe side. The
:37:20. > :37:25.danger for Ellen is I don't think she has played many good ones on
:37:26. > :37:28.this site. I don't think she has added with this.
:37:29. > :37:38.Too heavy. The line is perfect. Yes.
:37:39. > :37:45.It is a one and ship out for the second set to win the trophy and the
:37:46. > :38:18.title. All to force a tie-break -- one end shoot out.
:38:19. > :38:27.REFEREE: Jack length 26.5 metres. This has been a wonderful game
:38:28. > :38:33.between Ellen Falkner and Rebecca Field, Ellen took the first set
:38:34. > :38:41.10-9. Second set, perfectly poised, going into the last end at 7-7. And
:38:42. > :38:49.this end is going to be interesting in terms of its tactics. Certainly
:38:50. > :38:53.not worrying about scoring a two or three, they just want to win. If
:38:54. > :39:01.Ellen wins, she takes the title and the trippy. If Rebecca wins, we are
:39:02. > :39:05.into a three end tie-break. Two good bowls, doesn't really want the jack
:39:06. > :39:15.first. She ran with it. A little touch of the bowl.
:39:16. > :39:18.She held onto it. This is almost like a tie-break end, it doesn't
:39:19. > :39:21.matter who scores. I think she will run at this.
:39:22. > :39:36.This cannot be drawn. Very controlled to try and rest into
:39:37. > :39:43.her own bowl. There is a back bowl in, always handy. She will attack.
:39:44. > :39:49.She has come down to have a look, she will be positive now, Ellen.
:39:50. > :40:00.Rebecca can't go near this. Cover shot.
:40:01. > :40:10.Quite rightly, keeping it wide. Anticipating a drive from Ellen. A
:40:11. > :40:25.good bowl. I'd expect a forehand runner here.
:40:26. > :40:35.It is the backhand, maybe because the bowl will come across the centre
:40:36. > :40:42.line better. Close to something. Good effort. Always high. I can
:40:43. > :40:47.understand why she played it. The only thing I don't like about the
:40:48. > :40:51.backhand is the green bowl will go onto the jack in the ditch.
:40:52. > :40:59.Forehand, better chance of taking the bowl out clean.
:41:00. > :41:03.I think she plays the forehand rather well, Ellen. Slightly
:41:04. > :41:10.surprised there. Again, Rebecca will be staying away from this. Can't do
:41:11. > :41:20.anything about the head. Going deep again. Just saying to
:41:21. > :41:25.Ellen, if you get this, good on you. We still think the forehand was off
:41:26. > :41:29.centre, Andy, I think it will be a better percentage shot to get to
:41:30. > :41:33.there. The one thing I really think is an issue for Ellen played the
:41:34. > :41:37.backhand, if she gets the bowl, the jack will move into this direction
:41:38. > :41:44.and there are green bowls waiting. Which loses the shot. She is
:41:45. > :41:48.stronger on the forehand. It is off centre. This is where the bowl holds
:41:49. > :42:00.out on the forehand. A better shot because of that.
:42:01. > :42:04.Plenty of time outs available. If she gets this absolutely right, it
:42:05. > :42:09.will be hard to beat. If she catches the red bowl solid,
:42:10. > :42:15.the green will go out. It will be a difficult shot for Rebecca.
:42:16. > :42:20.Pick your hand, Ellen, if you fancy the backhand, play it. To me, it is
:42:21. > :42:25.forehand. Looking at the forehand now. She
:42:26. > :42:40.didn't hit us, that is not possible! It really is a forehand shots.
:42:41. > :42:51.Very close, got it. Played it to perfection. Didn't get the high side
:42:52. > :43:04.of the bowl, got the solid contact. She has got the shot back and holds
:43:05. > :43:10.a championship life. -- lie. This is interesting, is Ellen lying
:43:11. > :43:14.one or two. We haven't heard anything, it is
:43:15. > :43:19.close for the second. I would say if Rebecca is lying
:43:20. > :43:22.second shot, she will drive this. I think she will drive it anyway,
:43:23. > :43:27.regardless. A hard one to draw. This is a runner
:43:28. > :43:34.as well. It depends on how much weight. A big
:43:35. > :43:39.target in many ways. The second shot is critical here.
:43:40. > :43:45.It is a forehand runner as well, same bowl as Ellen.
:43:46. > :43:56.Going for the heavy shot. What is her line like? It looks as if she is
:43:57. > :44:01.under, she is making the gap. REFEREE: Second shot and the match,
:44:02. > :44:07.Ellen Falkner. Ellen Falkner, 2-0. The big bowls,
:44:08. > :44:10.she really played the important ones.
:44:11. > :44:18.That was the difference. It is fair to say Rebecca played with a
:44:19. > :44:22.slightly on the draw shot but Ellen played the better shots.
:44:23. > :44:27.She came back well, had a gap of a few years, came back very strong in
:44:28. > :44:33.this event. Some very tight matches. 10-9, 8-7, wonderful final.
:44:34. > :44:41.A wonderful final, the gap was ten years since Ellen Falkner had her
:44:42. > :44:47.hands on that trophy. 2005, 2006, she had to wait a while, but she has
:44:48. > :44:52.won the title again. I am delighted to take the ladies singles champion
:44:53. > :44:56.is with me. One, they say absence makes the heart grow fonder, how did
:44:57. > :45:00.you feel? I was absolutely delighted. As I
:45:01. > :45:10.said in the interview after the match, sometimes, the time that
:45:11. > :45:10.lapses in between, it makes it even more special.
:45:11. > :45:15.You go through the years and lows, it is great to come back
:45:16. > :45:15.on top. What has the reaction being, has it sunk

:45:34. > :45:37.won on Thursday? Friday afternoon, back to work, all
:45:38. > :45:42.good. The thought that some people have

:46:25. > :46:28.enough! We have one if you nationals
:46:29. > :46:34.together, a couple of mixed pairs. I am over the moon to him today.
:46:35. > :46:36.together, a couple of mixed pairs. I has worked its jimmy hard, it took

:48:00. > :48:02.Wonderful to have you here, thank you for coming in. I hope you have

:48:51. > :48:55.It comes. Will he be tempted at this?
:48:56. > :49:01.Tactics change, just a matter of winning the end, it doesn't matter
:49:02. > :49:07.about scoring a two or three, one is good enough. Two handy bowls to
:49:08. > :49:36.start with. Ross is waving this one back again.
:49:37. > :49:51.Just slipped round, very good. That is a handy place.
:49:52. > :50:08.Ross will probably be thinking that it is just not close enough, that
:50:09. > :50:11.single shot. Needs one a little bit closer. That is what he is trifle,
:50:12. > :50:27.trying to encourage it forward. -- what he is trying.
:50:28. > :50:35.He looks like he's on a slightly inside line, a with this. The front

:50:42. > :50:49.the back red one. Hard for us to be sure.
:50:50. > :50:59.REFEREE: It is very close. Front red, goodness me, we thought
:51:00. > :51:05.the red level with the jack was closer. Probably 18 inches for Ross
:51:06. > :51:19.here. That is close. When you put the
:51:20. > :51:23.rings on, you realise how things are lying. The jack high bowl ducks the
:51:24. > :51:30.shot but it is not when you put the rings on. It is not easy, this. The
:51:31. > :51:36.front bowl to negotiate. It does hold at the end. I think he
:51:37. > :51:48.has played a very good bowl here. That is really tidy. A really good
:51:49. > :51:56.bowl. Takes a bit of the Angola way. -- angle away.
:51:57. > :52:02.The question it is he prepared to have another go, or try to draw it.
:52:03. > :52:12.That is his only option. Doesn't look to be much of a runner for him.
:52:13. > :52:19.REFEREE: Time out called. He is keeping that concentration going. He
:52:20. > :52:26.is going for the strike, bowl on to bowl.
:52:27. > :52:34.Now,... Has he got the re-spot. I can't
:52:35. > :52:39.tell. It certainly looks to me. The jack is in the ditch and it stays
:52:40. > :52:42.live if it is within the confines of the rink, the yellow marker on the
:52:43. > :52:52.bottom of your picture. This is going to be tricky.
:52:53. > :52:56.It really is. It is a measure with the bowl in the ditch. Then they
:52:57. > :53:12.will have two come over the ditch for the next bowl.
:53:13. > :53:24.That is well in. Yes. 12 red. A successful drive there. If it had
:53:25. > :53:36.been on the re-spot, it probably would have made it as well.
:53:37. > :53:41.A good bowl. Ross wondering... Ross did everything he could. He
:53:42. > :53:45.didn't play a bad end at all. Joseph came up with an answer, just
:53:46. > :53:54.got the edge of the jack into the ditch.
:53:55. > :53:55.Joseph's Mum and girlfriend sitting quietly, properly as nervous as
:53:56. > :54:13.kittens. -- probably. REFEREE: Jack length 28 metres.
:54:14. > :54:29.Hannah on the left and mum Angela, Ross Owens.
:54:30. > :54:49.Can be a danger sometimes, Ross has been dominating the short jacks. He
:54:50. > :54:53.has giving it away, and Joseph has got it in.
:54:54. > :55:01.The one thing he doesn't want to be here is short.
:55:02. > :55:04.A great effort. The line in front is not good for him.
:55:05. > :55:08.That is the place he did not want to be. He will struggle to get past
:55:09. > :55:33.that. Very tempting to run at this to get
:55:34. > :55:39.it out of the way. A good decision. Just moved the bowl out of the way.
:55:40. > :55:46.Fortunately, had to -- unfortunately, had to waste one.
:55:47. > :55:54.I would go on the re-spot here, stay away from that. Just leave it up to
:55:55. > :56:03.Ross to make the disturbance. It is not easy.
:56:04. > :56:13.Good thinking. Very good understanding of the game, both
:56:14. > :56:18.these players, they no had to play these sets.
:56:19. > :56:34.Same bowl as last time. Takes the two bowls away, the jack into the
:56:35. > :56:47.ditch. He is down the line.
:56:48. > :56:52.Great shot. Well done. He got a touch on the jacks so it will be
:56:53. > :56:57.marked as a touch, stay on a rink. He had opened the door, a good
:56:58. > :57:19.strike. Joseph has no choice but to try and draw close.
:57:20. > :57:48.Interesting. He is playing across the line here, I'm not sure I would
:57:49. > :57:52.have played that. Here it comes. It needs to run a bit. No, it is not
:57:53. > :58:04.bad. A bit of a challenge to try and get to that. It is a match lie.
:58:05. > :58:10.He has played that backhand well, to be fair. Suddenly put the pressure
:58:11. > :58:13.on bass. More importantly comic he hasn't
:58:14. > :58:17.gone close to the jack which means boss will probably try to ditch it.
:58:18. > :58:23.He is forced into the jaw. boss will probably try to ditch it.
:58:24. > :58:30.He has one hand on the trophy, at 18, that is a very big achievement.
:58:31. > :58:39.16 inches to draw this, boss. After two banners. The forehand. He
:58:40. > :58:41.is on a good line, it is all about weight. Has he got enough? He has.
:58:42. > :59:39.That is a great pressure bowl. The two boys able to relax out of

:59:51. > :00:04.bowl again. That is very good under Joseph Mower has given himself last
:00:05. > :00:11.pressure. The rules change on the third tie-break. You can and it is
:00:12. > :00:13.to kill the end. Every player can do that four times. It can be replayed
:00:14. > :00:53.once. A little tide on the ball. I don't
:00:54. > :00:58.think it is made any difference. But it has brought him closer. Still
:00:59. > :01:06.trying to get inside the red bowl and use it.
:01:07. > :01:20.Good weight. Still a handy bowl in the head.
:01:21. > :01:28.He starts to be a little bit careful.
:01:29. > :01:46.Trying to close the head down a little bit.
:01:47. > :01:54.It looks like a good rest on the backhand for Joseph Mower. He has
:01:55. > :01:56.got the shoulder to work off. His runners have been good. You might be
:01:57. > :02:18.tempted down the back. Tough shot. That was a good effort. Just
:02:19. > :02:23.dropping inside. He has the re-spot covered on one side. Think Ross will
:02:24. > :02:41.be doing well just to cover the back position. Yes, split the two red.
:02:42. > :02:54.This is a tough one for him. Joseph Mower as Godfrey ball out again. --
:02:55. > :03:04.has got the bowl out again. He covers the re-spot. Does not
:03:05. > :03:21.cover the back bowl. That is the angle he wants to come
:03:22. > :03:29.off. Full jack, it could go anywhere. Either way he is going to
:03:30. > :03:38.be off to it. Drive off the backhand. Ride up the middle. It
:03:39. > :03:44.will be one to red. I acknowledge and from Ross Owen. That is the
:03:45. > :03:51.shot. Joseph Mower has won the singles. A very good final. It
:03:52. > :03:56.really has been. An excellent example of how the youth aeroplane
:03:57. > :04:03.the game at the moment. Lots of good draws, lots of good hits. Good
:04:04. > :04:08.appreciation for each other. Good sportsmanship. Excellent game.
:04:09. > :04:13.Joseph Mower won the first set, lost the second. He wins the tie-break

:04:18. > :04:22.Joseph Mower says it all, a great moment for him in his career which
:04:23. > :04:25.came before family and friends, hopefully, can it provide a
:04:26. > :04:31.springboard for him to go on to better things?
:04:32. > :04:39.David Corkill here. Corgi, exciting young talent? Absolutely. We have
:04:40. > :04:44.seen Ross before. I knew what he can do. Seeing Josef come through has
:04:45. > :04:52.been fantastic. We have got a lot of good young players in the UK. It is
:04:53. > :04:59.just about developing them. Darren Burnett won the mixed pairs title
:05:00. > :05:05.this week and doubled up with his success in the pairs. There was a
:05:06. > :05:10.moment we thought he might win all three? Yes, absolutely. He was
:05:11. > :05:16.certainly playing well enough. It was a bit of deja vu. We were in the
:05:17. > :05:20.situation with Robert Paxton. He was brilliant. Cell of the last hurdle.
:05:21. > :05:26.Darren did the same thing but he played extremely well in this event.
:05:27. > :05:32.You cannot win all three? Remains that situation at the moment. Can it
:05:33. > :05:38.be done? I think it can. You have to be informed for two weeks and that
:05:39. > :05:42.is not easy. All week we have been asking Corky to pick out his shock
:05:43. > :05:56.of the day. Here are the candidates for the shot of the week.
:05:57. > :06:19.What are bowl! That was perfect. He got the edge of it.
:06:20. > :07:08.Yes! That is it! He has got it! He had both of them covered.
:07:09. > :07:46.It is no exaggeration to say there were so many candidates from so many
:07:47. > :07:52.great games. What did you decide was the shot of the week? I was tempted
:07:53. > :07:56.with a couple from Alex Marshall but the Robert Paxton one, the second in
:07:57. > :08:02.the tie-break, it was amazing. It is such a hard shot. We were thinking
:08:03. > :08:05.he would drive this. To turn the jack around the corner took an
:08:06. > :08:10.amazing amount of courage to even attempt to play that shot. That was
:08:11. > :08:16.brilliant. That was quite superb from Robert Paxton. And he has won
:08:17. > :08:23.the shot of the week. But the man of the week has joined us. Mickey
:08:24. > :08:29.Brett. Is it quite heavy? Just about heavy enough! We wanted to ask you
:08:30. > :08:37.about your magnificent celebrations after you won that trophy as he came
:08:38. > :08:44.back on to receive it. The cartwheel is becoming a bit of a thing. One of
:08:45. > :08:51.my daughters is a gymnast. I cannot do anything else. I thought I better
:08:52. > :08:59.continue with the cartwheel if I win anything. What did she give you out
:09:00. > :09:04.of ten? The legs need to be straighter! Probably about a seven.
:09:05. > :09:10.When a sports man plays in any event, the support of family and
:09:11. > :09:15.friends is paramount? Absolutely. My wife has spent many an night on our
:09:16. > :09:20.own at home, ferrying the kids about. It is more for them than me,
:09:21. > :09:24.really. I do a lot of the bowling but they spend a lot of time on
