:00:54. > :00:58.Le crowd far left feet. What a Hello, a warm welcome from the art-
:00:59. > :01:08.deco splendour that is the Troxy here at East London, which started
:01:09. > :01:10.
:01:10. > :01:14.out as a cinema hall previously, but now it is set for the amateur
:01:14. > :01:21.boxing world championships. They are hoping to make their mark in a
:01:21. > :01:27.sport where Britain is getting better and better.
:01:27. > :01:33.We will meet the seven members of our GB Olympic boxing team. It is a
:01:33. > :01:38.dream come true, the hard work has paid off. It is going to be massive,
:01:38. > :01:43.I can't wait. I am going to put everything I have got into it.
:01:43. > :01:50.long as I am winning, that is what matters because everybody loves a
:01:50. > :01:59.winner. They will make history and feature in the women's boxing
:01:59. > :02:07.tournament, we will bring you coverage from China. And of course
:02:07. > :02:12.we will have action from the British championships, live.
:02:12. > :02:21.Joining me, as you can see, the irrepressible Steve Bunce through
:02:21. > :02:25.the earth -- afternoon. hopefully we will be seeing Allott
:02:25. > :02:29.2016 Olympians. Before that, let's have a look at how things have
:02:30. > :02:39.changed. Having a British boxer at the Olympics used to be a rare
:02:40. > :02:40.
:02:40. > :02:44.feature, casting your mind back to 2004 when Amir Khan fort. Now every
:02:44. > :02:54.one of our boxers has a decent shout at the medal. Let's
:02:54. > :02:57.
:02:57. > :03:01.officially introduce you to the official G B boxing team. I went to
:03:01. > :03:05.the world championships in November just gone, came away with a silver
:03:05. > :03:11.medal. I was standing there with a silver medal, just really
:03:11. > :03:16.frustrated. I wasn't happy, number two in the world. I am going to
:03:16. > :03:21.these Olympics and I will put everything I have got into it.
:03:21. > :03:29.like to think I am a nice boxer but when the going gets tough, I grit
:03:29. > :03:36.my teeth, and go to town. I think I can do everything relatively well.
:03:36. > :03:42.At the Olympic Games I really believe and I hope I can win a
:03:42. > :03:48.medal. I know it will be an amazing atmosphere, the crowd. Maybe when
:03:48. > :03:52.they seek 6 ft 220 stone fighters coming in, the crowd will get
:03:52. > :03:58.excited but I have got to stick to my game plan because as long as I
:03:58. > :04:03.am winning, that is what matters. Everyone loves a winner. I am 5 ft
:04:03. > :04:09.11 so I am quite tall for a lightweight. I have a good defence
:04:09. > :04:19.and fast hands. Obviously in the opening ceremony, the crowd
:04:19. > :04:23.screaming, the whole thing will be massive. I can't wait. I had six
:04:23. > :04:31.fights in the championships, I lost in the final, and I had to fight
:04:31. > :04:36.just to get there. I pick punches. I am number two in the world and if
:04:36. > :04:39.I trained really hard I reckon I will be the best out there.
:04:39. > :04:48.Qualifying at the World Championships has given me a good
:04:48. > :04:51.base to go on. The trainers are telling me what I can do, I just
:04:51. > :04:58.need to get my head down and hopefully I can come away with a
:04:58. > :05:02.medal. In 2004 I was watching Amir Khan in the Olympics and my whole
:05:02. > :05:07.family was cheering for him. To think I am going to the 2012
:05:07. > :05:16.Olympics, it is a dream come true. It just shows if you dedicate your
:05:16. > :05:22.life to something you can get the rewards. That is happening to me
:05:22. > :05:31.now and the training has paid off. We have a professional set-up in
:05:31. > :05:37.Sheffield and we are all dedicated. That is the magnificent seven. How
:05:37. > :05:41.good is this squad? Five of the seven are ranked inside the world
:05:41. > :05:47.governing body's top four so five of them, according to their
:05:47. > :05:52.rankings, should get the silver or gold medal position. Of the other
:05:52. > :05:56.two, they probably will gatecrash the top five or six. We have never
:05:57. > :06:04.had this. Even if we had bigger squads for the Olympics, we have
:06:04. > :06:09.never have that many boxers inside the top five, never. That is the
:06:09. > :06:14.seven men in 18 GB but what about the women? History will be made at
:06:14. > :06:17.London 2012 with the first-ever women's boxing tournament. We went
:06:17. > :06:24.to China for the world championships, not fighting just
:06:24. > :06:28.for a medal but for their places at London 2012. We were watching
:06:28. > :06:38.Natasha Jonas and Nicola Adams to find out what they could do in the
:06:38. > :06:39.
:06:39. > :06:44.biggest week of their sporting lives.
:06:44. > :06:48.No matter where you are from in the world, to be a winner you need to
:06:48. > :06:52.be able to deal with pressure, and here at the Women's World Boxing
:06:52. > :06:58.Championships in China, Great Britain's boxers have certainly had
:06:58. > :07:07.their fair share. To qualify for London 2012, the very first
:07:07. > :07:16.Olympics to include women's boxing, Natasha Jonas, Nicholas -- Nicola
:07:16. > :07:21.Adams needed to appear in the top three and failure to do so would
:07:21. > :07:28.end their dream. As four Europeans could make the semi-finals in the
:07:28. > :07:33.light weight class, Natasha Jonas needed France to lose and to win.
:07:33. > :07:43.That combination would get her to London 2012. I remember standing in
:07:43. > :07:43.
:07:43. > :07:49.the tunnel, and I got no doubt to the about so I never knew the final
:07:49. > :07:55.result. All I knew was things were going my way. The first round went
:07:55. > :08:01.well, I was up by a couple of points. Going into the third round,
:08:01. > :08:05.I was 11 points up, I was just telling myself to stay focused.
:08:05. > :08:12.Even though I knew I was 11 points going into the round, you never
:08:12. > :08:20.know until someone turns around and says you are a winner. I watched
:08:20. > :08:27.the panel, and as they lifted it up, I thought yes! My dad didn't know
:08:27. > :08:31.anything about it. Obviously he went back to the coaches and they
:08:31. > :08:38.searched France had got beaten and he Newall said you what it means.
:08:38. > :08:42.The Nicola Adams was next up in the flyweight division, she knew a win
:08:43. > :08:49.would see Natasha Jonas going to the Olympic Games. Standing in her
:08:50. > :08:54.way was a legend of women's boxing. I have the pressure on in the first
:08:54. > :09:00.round. I wanted to make sure I was dominant in the first round. Trying
:09:00. > :09:05.to get the point and get the lead, just to let her know I have come to
:09:05. > :09:12.fight today. I haven't come to let you walk all over me just because
:09:12. > :09:19.of who you are. I came to qualify. I think she started to come apart a
:09:19. > :09:25.little bit. I have qualified now, I have done the business. I just need
:09:25. > :09:29.to go and get a nice colour medal and then go for the Olympics.
:09:29. > :09:33.incredibly, despite securing a bronze medal by reaching the last
:09:33. > :09:38.four of the middleweight division, to qualify for London 20 twirled
:09:38. > :09:42.Savannah Marshall needed to win against her Russian opponent. Just
:09:42. > :09:47.as she did, when faced with tough opposition in the previous rounds,
:09:47. > :09:53.she left the ring with the victory. How did you keep that believe going
:09:53. > :09:58.because you had such difficulty about every round? I have seen the
:09:58. > :10:04.psychologist a few times, and it paid off. I just want to go to the
:10:04. > :10:08.Olympics and I are not even 21 yet. Savannah Marshall is through, and
:10:09. > :10:13.all three women through to the Olympics but what about Savannah
:10:13. > :10:19.Marshall - could she become the first British woman to win a world
:10:19. > :10:29.title? She was taking on an opponent from Azerbaijan. We joined
:10:29. > :11:00.
:11:00. > :11:06.it with Savannah leading by two The coaches in the blue corner
:11:06. > :11:16.giving savanna Marshall clear instruction on how to approach this
:11:16. > :11:27.
:11:27. > :11:37.Good work from the Azerbaijan boxer. A very good triple punch
:11:37. > :11:47.combination. Really good shots from her. Marshal needs to get back into
:11:47. > :12:14.
:12:15. > :12:24.Are good right hand again, a good point scoring right hand from
:12:25. > :12:32.
:12:32. > :12:41.Savannah Marshall. Just watch the shoulder. Was it that shoulder that
:12:41. > :12:47.caused this bloody nose? I think the result of that three punch
:12:47. > :12:52.combination from the Azerbaijan boxer. 30 seconds in the third
:12:52. > :13:02.round, Marshall with that two point advantage, determined to keep the
:13:02. > :13:14.
:13:14. > :13:22.momentum going here. Using the long Keep that head up. Marshall has got
:13:22. > :13:32.to keep using the ring, stay light on her feet. Again, the shoulder.
:13:32. > :13:33.
:13:33. > :13:38.That is the second time. There goes the bell. 6-6. A good ground for
:13:38. > :13:42.both boxers, a good scoring round for them, but Savannah Marshall
:13:42. > :13:52.still holds on to the advantage going into the fourth and final
:13:52. > :13:53.
:13:53. > :14:03.round 13-11. A lovely hook with the left hand. Equally as effective
:14:03. > :14:06.
:14:06. > :14:16.combinations. Left-to-right straight punch with a right hook
:14:16. > :14:16.
:14:16. > :14:58.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 41 seconds
:14:58. > :15:08.Good work again from the boxer in red.
:15:08. > :15:28.
:15:28. > :15:31.The opening minute, not the best That's a good one-two combination,
:15:32. > :15:37.one over the top from Savannah Marshall. She puts some good scores
:15:37. > :15:46.and points on the board here. Needs to follow it up again. 35 seconds
:15:46. > :15:56.on the clock. Vystropova answers back. A good combination punch from
:15:56. > :15:56.
:15:56. > :16:01.the Azerbaijani boxer. Marshall needs one more combination.
:16:01. > :16:11.Again, the doctor is asked to look at the blooded nose of the English
:16:11. > :16:21.
:16:21. > :16:25.Puts that jab out again, Marshall. Needs to do that now n the last 15
:16:25. > :16:35.seconds of this final round. Stay strong is the call from the
:16:35. > :16:41.
:16:41. > :16:51.Another one-two, right before the bell. That could be the point score
:16:51. > :16:51.
:16:51. > :17:01.that gives it to Savannah Marshall. What a brilliant middleweight final.
:17:01. > :17:06.
:17:06. > :17:11.Incredibly tense, very close. Is this the perfect birthday
:17:11. > :17:16.present for the English boxer. She's done it. Savannah Marshall
:17:16. > :17:22.takes the gold. A brilliant performance. Great news from China.
:17:22. > :17:30.Who better be joined by, than somebody involved in the initial
:17:30. > :17:33.tussle to join Team GB. What an amazing achievement from Savannah
:17:33. > :17:38.Marshall. She boxed brilliantly. She had one of the hardest routes
:17:38. > :17:42.to the final and won it in style. How big a boost is it to go there
:17:43. > :17:46.with three representatives and come back with three qualifyers?
:17:46. > :17:49.could not ask for anything better. There are three countries which
:17:49. > :17:55.have fulfilled all three places. That is ourselves and Russia.
:17:55. > :17:59.are not overstating this, are we - all three had a good shout at a
:17:59. > :18:04.medal at London 2012? It is not an overstatement. You have a good
:18:04. > :18:08.chance of making those medals shiny medals. Your reaction to what has
:18:08. > :18:15.happened in China? It has inevitable the way it has been
:18:15. > :18:21.building. We have looked at these three women. Once we worked out -
:18:21. > :18:26.we pushed them, training camps, European Championships, World
:18:26. > :18:31.Championships. In Barbados two years ago Savannah Marshall got the
:18:31. > :18:35.silver medal N the summer it will not go back to silver, it will stay
:18:36. > :18:39.at gold. A word for Savannah Marshall, because she is
:18:39. > :18:44.frightfully shy away from the ring. I think her boxing speaks for
:18:44. > :18:50.herself. She does not need to say much outside of the ring. She is a
:18:50. > :18:58.great boxer. A great technician. She is very calm in the ring for
:18:58. > :19:03.somebody who is so young. Let's find out about Nicola add damns.
:19:03. > :19:13.She was up against the home town favourite. Nicola had it all to do,
:19:13. > :19:16.
:19:16. > :19:22.Of course the winner of this will surely set themselves up as
:19:22. > :19:32.favourite for the gold in London. 69 days to go until the opening
:19:32. > :19:32.
:19:32. > :21:00.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 41 seconds
:21:00. > :21:04.There's the good right-hand shot A good combination of punches from
:21:04. > :21:12.Ren. They could secure the world title for her. 20 seconds on the
:21:12. > :21:16.clock. Again, a nice grab from ren. A good one-two from Adams. Good,
:21:16. > :21:21.straight punching from the world number two.
:21:21. > :21:26.A Chinese cry of counting the clock down here. What a match! What a
:21:26. > :21:34.performance from both boxers. World-class.
:21:34. > :21:44.Was that enough? Was that enough from Nicola Adams
:21:44. > :21:45.
:21:45. > :21:49.to take the gold away? Has Cancan Ren, of China, added her Third
:21:49. > :21:54.World title and she's done it. Once again Nicola Adams, of England,
:21:54. > :21:58.has to settle for the silver. A brave performance from the world
:21:58. > :22:03.number two. So, disappointment for Nicola. She
:22:03. > :22:13.is still one of the favourites for the Olympics, isn't she? She is
:22:13. > :22:13.
:22:13. > :22:18.without a doubt. She has beaten the Chinese world champion. She has
:22:18. > :22:23.lost to Cancan Ren. She knows she can do it. Can she do it in her
:22:23. > :22:27.home town? She has a very good chance. How will it go down with
:22:27. > :22:32.the general public? They will love it. We will give it plenty of
:22:32. > :22:36.publicity. What we all want is more women's weights. They have got ten
:22:36. > :22:41.weights: We are only seeing three at the Olympics. Hopefully next
:22:41. > :22:46.Olympics we can have five. We could have had five or six women here. We
:22:46. > :22:49.are not only a good nation, we may be the top nation. Time now to
:22:49. > :22:53.concentrate on the amateur boxing here at The Troxy.
:22:53. > :22:58.A competitive afternoon of boxing ahead. The finalists have had to
:22:58. > :23:08.come through bouts culminating in last night's semi-finals. We start
:23:08. > :23:12.
:23:12. > :23:19.our round-up with another boxing This year alone, I boxed the first
:23:19. > :23:27.tournament. I won gold there. That was a great achievement. In
:23:27. > :23:34.the GB this year, I have Commonwealth medalist. I have a
:23:34. > :23:43.good kid a lot of experience. There's me, who is Commonwealth
:23:43. > :23:48.youth medallist. A great category. I mainly switch it - that's the
:23:48. > :23:54.main way I box. When I need to, I come forward and put the pressure
:23:54. > :24:04.on the front foot. So long as I perform as well I know I can.
:24:04. > :24:04.
:24:04. > :24:09.now for some live boxing. Our commentators are here.
:24:10. > :24:16.Thank you. You get that tingle. Two months until we kick off at the
:24:16. > :24:21.Olympic Games in London. The shouts will be for Britain. There is a new
:24:21. > :24:27.generation coming on. We are looking at talent which will come
:24:27. > :24:33.on at 2016, Brazil Games. Four years, Beijing, it has flown. It
:24:33. > :24:38.will fly to Brazil. We are looking out for talent coming through.
:24:38. > :24:43.Boxers from Wales, boxers from Scotland - that is only
:24:43. > :24:48.strengthening Great Britain's hand, isn't it? The development squad is
:24:48. > :24:52.developing to the podium. They are talented young lads. They will look
:24:52. > :25:00.for those result games. I am looking forward to this afternoon.
:25:00. > :25:10.Two of the boxers on the Development Squad will be next in
:25:10. > :25:22.
:25:22. > :25:27.A bantamweight final at 56 kilos. It is a contest of three rounds
:25:27. > :25:35.between, and introducing you to you in the red corner, representing GB,
:25:35. > :25:45.Qais Ashfaq. And in the blue corner,
:25:45. > :25:56.
:25:57. > :26:01.Well, this is a very good division in Britain. Not too far away the 56
:26:01. > :26:08.kilogram division. Both these boxes, there's Qais Ashfaq, representing
:26:08. > :26:14.Great Britain and the man representing Wales, Sean
:26:14. > :26:21.McGoldrick,. At the top of the tree is Luke Campbell, a serious
:26:21. > :26:25.contender in the Games this year. These two have probably boxed
:26:25. > :26:31.dozens, if not hundreds of rounds. They know each other well. From
:26:31. > :26:37.McGoldrick's tactics, he knows he has to close Ashfaq down. Ashfaq
:26:37. > :26:41.likes room. He is a counter puncher. He likes room to manoeuvre. That is
:26:41. > :26:47.why McGoldrick is on the front-foot straight away. He has to close that
:26:47. > :26:57.gap and get to his man. represented Wales in the
:26:57. > :27:02.
:27:02. > :27:05.Commonwealth Games in Delhi. He got Sean McGoldrick, and we felt at
:27:05. > :27:09.ringside, had done enough to get the decision there and then.
:27:09. > :27:14.thought he was robed in the final, to be quite honest. He did enough
:27:14. > :27:21.to win it. It was overturned. It would have been nice on the day he
:27:21. > :27:26.got that gold medal. Ashfaq came against the English representative
:27:26. > :27:33.by 13-9. McGoldrick against another GB Development Squad member, Joe
:27:33. > :27:38.Ham, an old friend and old opponent, 17-14. Nothing much has changed in
:27:38. > :27:48.terms of how punching and scoring is judged. There are five judges at
:27:48. > :27:49.
:27:49. > :27:56.ringside. Each have a pad in front of them. They press either button,
:27:56. > :28:00.if they feel it has gone to the head. That does not happen and you
:28:00. > :28:04.only see the total now. This will happen in the Olympics coming up
:28:05. > :28:09.here. You will 078 see the totals at the end of the -- only see the
:28:09. > :28:12.totals at the end of the round. The scores of the judges seem to be
:28:12. > :28:16.discarded and the middle three scores are averaged out. I know it
:28:16. > :28:22.sound very complicated. You don't have to take your shoes and socks
:28:22. > :28:28.off to do the sums. It is done by computer for you. We bring you the
:28:28. > :28:32.scores. It will give us a wee bit more to talk about. Gold gld gold
:28:32. > :28:39.started the round very well -- gold gld gold started the round very
:28:39. > :28:44.well. -- Sean McGoldrick started the round very well.
:28:44. > :28:52.McGoldrick has to quicken up a bit. He has the room and space and is
:28:52. > :28:56.boxing much quicker. That style of his is proving more awkward for the
:28:56. > :29:01.experienced Welshman. He's tall, Ashfaq and he's very clever A very
:29:01. > :29:05.good opening round indeed. A very competitive weight division.
:29:05. > :29:09.A close round. It will be interesting to see how it pans out
:29:09. > :29:14.with the scoring. There was good work from this man later on in the
:29:14. > :29:17.round. Working well with the grab. A great one-two there. He is back
:29:17. > :29:27.to the safety distance. McGoldrick trying to get to his man. He gets
:29:27. > :29:31.
:29:31. > :29:36.caught there with the left hand. What is it like when Dahlia is to
:29:37. > :29:40.have had to Spar with the same partners? Of course, you are
:29:40. > :29:45.friends within the squad, working with each other every day, but the
:29:45. > :29:52.fact they have sparred hundreds of rounds together, they know each
:29:52. > :29:56.other inside out so you have got to get the edge of your opponent.
:29:57. > :30:04.have said down the years we have been at many a ringside together,

:36:05. > :36:11.little bit. His boxing is superbly on the back foot. Switching styles,

:37:02. > :37:08.Ashfaq has got this one. We have needed to see a few more
:37:08. > :37:14.combinations from McGoldrick. Too many single shots. The GB boxer has

:39:52. > :39:58.And it will be, he has only just turned 19 and he doesn't have his
:39:58. > :40:03.man strength yet. He may be cocky, arrogant, he has good hands but he
:40:03. > :40:07.is lacking a bit of power. When he finds that power, he will not be
:40:07. > :40:13.against the ropes so often. Let's not forget, McGoldrick is a veteran
:40:13. > :40:19.of the world, the Commonwealth gold champion, and Qais Ashfaq is just a
:40:19. > :40:24.kid from Leeds. McGoldrick left it too late, maybe? Yes, but most of
:40:24. > :40:31.that is because Qais Ashfaq was not giving him any space. Once you cut
:40:31. > :40:37.down the ground get the end, it made it much harder for him. I like
:40:37. > :40:42.this kid, write his name down on the back of a fag packet because in
:40:42. > :40:47.2016 you will be putting money on him. If I smoke, I would do. Next
:40:47. > :40:55.up, the big guys at super- heavyweight, a grudge match between
:40:55. > :41:00.Frazer Clarke and Joseph Joyce. We caught up with a pretty determined
:41:00. > :41:04.Fraser ahead of the final. I have been training for two-and-a-half
:41:04. > :41:14.years now, and I have been surrounded by the Olympians now the
:41:14. > :41:18.
:41:18. > :41:24.most of that time. They are great, there is no big-headed nurse, it is
:41:24. > :41:29.great. I just want to keep improving. I'd be cut so much from
:41:29. > :41:34.these guys, watching them training and how they conduct themselves. If
:41:34. > :41:39.we want to the Olympians, we have got to carry ourselves the same way
:41:39. > :41:43.and train the same way. I had a disappointment a few weeks ago
:41:43. > :41:50.against Joseph Joyce. I have trained hard since then so I will
:41:50. > :41:56.be trying to put a few wrongs right. The view put one of these chaps on
:41:56. > :42:02.the other shoulder, they would be about the size of a London bus that
:42:02. > :42:08.has been used to advertise London 2012 in the capital. Look at the
:42:08. > :42:12.size of these two, they are two of the biggest and tallest amateur
:42:12. > :42:17.super-heavyweight I have seen. are big men, and this is a grudge
:42:17. > :42:22.match. Joseph Joyce has two victories over Frazer Clarke so he
:42:22. > :42:27.has got to pull it out this time. They're having a little word with
:42:27. > :42:34.their respective boxers. Frazer Clarke is only 20 years of age,
:42:34. > :42:44.runner-up to Joseph Joyce in the GB championships and the more recent
:42:44. > :42:51.
:42:51. > :43:01.ABH championships. -- ABA. At the moment it is 2-0 to the man in red.
:43:01. > :43:02.
:43:02. > :43:12.He won a tournament in Estonia just In the blue corner, representing GB,
:43:12. > :43:12.
:43:12. > :43:18.Frazer Clarke. Again, two boxers in the biggest of all divisions. They
:43:18. > :43:28.know each other pretty well. There is a little bit of a needle here
:43:28. > :43:33.because Frazer Clarke feels he has to put this record straight. There
:43:33. > :43:37.is not a lot of spare on them, they are in very good condition. The
:43:37. > :43:42.main man from a British point of view is Anthony Joshua who, if you
:43:42. > :43:48.have a little bit of money, and Steve Bunce should know better than
:43:48. > :43:52.to smoke and to be putting things on flak jackets, but he will be
:43:52. > :43:56.putting some money on Anthony Joshua in this particular division.
:43:56. > :44:01.Joyce has a good straight right hand, and he will be looking to
:44:01. > :44:07.land that over Frazer Clarke's left. Now and again, he drops his left
:44:07. > :44:11.hand, a fault he has got. He is open to a straight right, and that
:44:11. > :44:21.is the favourite punch of Joyce so Frazer Clarke has got to watch what
:44:21. > :44:25.
:44:25. > :44:30.A pretty decent right hand from Frazer Clarke. The younger of the
:44:30. > :44:38.two by some five or six years. Well, that was a good solid shot. He'll
:44:38. > :44:47.be pleased with that one. A good stiff hand to follow. He fot his
:44:47. > :44:56.right got his right hand up to his face to avoid the left hook from
:44:56. > :45:06.He left himself open and Clarke came back with that. The ref saying
:45:06. > :45:08.
:45:08. > :45:12.you have to hit with the knuckle They have started at a fair old
:45:12. > :45:15.pace. They are quite light on their feet for two enormous men. There is
:45:15. > :45:19.about 40 stone between them, I reckon.
:45:19. > :45:29.Joyce is starting to get into his rhythm. He is confident coming
:45:29. > :45:36.
:45:36. > :45:41.forward, he's looking to land that A very good left-hand. It was the
:45:41. > :45:44.right hand of Joyce that started to disappear a little bit. He let it
:45:44. > :45:49.down down by a precious two or three inches. There's not much
:45:49. > :45:53.between them. For his money, I think Frazer Clarke has shaded this
:45:53. > :46:01.opening round. He's landing better shots. That was a straight left
:46:01. > :46:06.hand. That's a rare occasion there from a jab from Clarke, a super
:46:06. > :46:10.punch. He's probably going to get an extra point for that.
:46:10. > :46:14.Psychologically it is very, very important. Joyce is responding and
:46:14. > :46:19.coming straight back. This could go either way. You get the feeling
:46:19. > :46:23.that if somebody is silly enough to let their chin out to dry, it will
:46:23. > :46:28.get clipped and Joyce is responding. He knows he is conceding this
:46:29. > :46:34.opening round, particularly because of that. He's working hard to get
:46:34. > :46:39.back into it. That was a good round. Joyce is concentrating too much on
:46:39. > :46:47.that right hand there. Frazer Clarke boxed very well in that
:46:47. > :46:57.round. He does look pretty fresh, Frazer
:46:57. > :47:03.
:47:03. > :47:05.A couple of good right hands from right hand coming up here from
:47:05. > :47:11.Joyce. Then he walks on to that left hook from Clarke. There's that
:47:12. > :47:17.straight left. That was a super punch from Frazer Clarke. A simple
:47:17. > :47:27.jab. So it was quite close this first round. I thought Frazer
:47:27. > :47:44.
:47:44. > :47:51.Joseph Joyce straight into the centre of the ring. He did get
:47:51. > :48:01.caught with the right hand on the chin. You have to be patience - you
:48:01. > :48:05.have to have a plan. He's too confident at this stage, Joyce. It
:48:05. > :48:13.a terrific shot. Very, very powerful. He's being too erratic
:48:13. > :48:23.with it. That's better with the jab. Lurk Clarke working well with that
:48:23. > :48:41.
:48:41. > :48:49.stiff -- Fraser Clarke working well Another good solid shot from Frazer
:48:49. > :48:54.Clarke. He just swerved out of the way of Joyce's attack there. A
:48:54. > :48:58.lovely counter punch there from Clarke. It is the straight punch
:48:58. > :49:08.where he's measuring the distance behind that punch. You can see
:49:08. > :49:23.
:49:23. > :49:28.Joyce coming - always a danger with He's on the back foot now. He needs
:49:28. > :49:33.to steady himself and keep his composure. A little changing tactic
:49:33. > :49:39.from Joyce. What he's decided to do is get on the front foot, close the
:49:39. > :49:45.gap down and go for his man. He's risking a lot by doing it.
:49:45. > :49:55.A good right hand there from Joyce. And the super heavys, there's
:49:55. > :50:05.
:50:05. > :50:09.always the chance, always the Joyce needs to keep his chin down
:50:09. > :50:19.more. Frazer Clarke is gaining confidence now.
:50:19. > :50:30.
:50:30. > :50:34.Clarke may have done enough to keep himself aahead.
:50:34. > :50:39.-- ahead. I don't know if there's enough weight on it to score, but
:50:39. > :50:49.that was a good left from Joyce. Joyce has landed some good single-
:50:49. > :50:52.
:50:52. > :50:57.-- I think Clarke may be ahead again there, Jim.
:50:57. > :51:03.Joyce came back into that in the last 30-40 seconds.
:51:03. > :51:07.Clarke is looking a bit on the tired side. Here is how he came
:51:07. > :51:13.back into the contest. To be fair to Clarke, he did block a few of
:51:13. > :51:18.those shots. That was a good combination from the man in blue.
:51:18. > :51:26.Good boxing from both lads there. Oh, look, they are catching each
:51:26. > :51:30.other, straight hands from Joyce. Joyce had some success there by
:51:30. > :51:34.pinning Frazer Clarke on the ropes. What a round for Joyce. Having got
:51:34. > :51:38.into the start of the round, at three points a drift, he's now one
:51:39. > :51:45.point ahead with three more minutes to go. Is he going to make it three
:51:45. > :51:51.out of three against this opponent? What a very good second round that
:51:51. > :51:58.was by big Joseph Joyce. I was intrigued, I always have been
:51:58. > :52:04.intrigued, that anybody that big can step over the top rope. Most
:52:04. > :52:10.duck underneath it. This fella did that. I have not seen anybody done
:52:10. > :52:20.that since the big heavyweight who used to put the fear of God into
:52:20. > :52:53.
:52:53. > :52:58.opponents because he would step Joyce skill has that confidence
:52:58. > :53:02.coming forward. He needs to measure it with his
:53:02. > :53:08.left first, maybe his jab. Clarke trying to keep boxing together. He
:53:08. > :53:15.needs to move his head more. Needs to move that head a little
:53:15. > :53:20.bit more. There's Joyce again. It's Joyce sticking to the olded aage,
:53:20. > :53:30."be first. Whatever you do, be first." Good defence by Joyce.
:53:30. > :53:43.
:53:43. > :53:50.Saw that right hand come from his Seems to be more urgency from
:53:50. > :53:55.Clarke now. Maybe he is sensing he's behind with that jab. That's
:53:55. > :54:03.what he needs to do. Another good solid looking jab.
:54:03. > :54:07.Joyce was wobbling a little bit. He's got caught again. Body-shot by
:54:07. > :54:13.Clarke. Clarke needs to keep that up. A good scoring shot.
:54:13. > :54:23.Another terrific contest, as you would expect in the GB finals. This
:54:23. > :54:29.
:54:29. > :54:39.is as good a heavy welterweight It has been fantastic from both
:54:39. > :54:54.
:54:54. > :54:59.boxes A super right hand from Joyce A lot of blood come from his mouth
:54:59. > :55:05.now. He's in difficulty now. Joyce knows that he's probably got this
:55:05. > :55:10.one in the bag. A terrific round round, all the way through.
:55:10. > :55:20.Confidence from Joyce. He keeps coming forward, trying to land that
:55:20. > :55:24.right hand. What a great end to a good contest. Well... You can see
:55:24. > :55:29.the respect and admiration they have for each other. It is always
:55:29. > :55:33.difficult to box against somebody who you spire with. You have to
:55:33. > :55:38.give it 100%. You have to put friendship and everything else
:55:38. > :55:43.behind you. What a great round of boxing it was. There it was, that
:55:43. > :55:48.brought about that standing count. Super punch from Joyce. He needed
:55:48. > :55:53.it because Clarke was boxing well until that stage. Great work from
:55:53. > :55:57.both boxers. A terrific finish. Coming forward, they were prepared
:55:57. > :56:03.to take punches, to land punches. A great contest. Well, there was a
:56:03. > :56:08.lot of work to be done in that last round. It was the man in red,
:56:09. > :56:14.Joseph Joyce, who did most of the work. I am pretty sure he's got the
:56:14. > :56:16.decision. Ladies and gentleman show your
:56:17. > :56:26.appreciation for both boxers. They both deserve it.
:56:27. > :56:27.
:56:27. > :56:34.APPLAUSE And the winner of the super
:56:34. > :56:41.heavyweight 91-plus kilo final and GB champion for 2012, by a score of
:56:41. > :56:47.37-36, in the red corner, Joseph Joyce.
:56:47. > :56:53.Just one between them. I thought perhaps Joyce had maybe earned his
:56:53. > :56:59.victory by more than that. It could not have been closer, 37-36. What a
:56:59. > :57:03.super scoring contest from the super heavyweights. He will be
:57:03. > :57:13.disappointed from having lost against the man across the ring
:57:13. > :57:15.
:57:15. > :57:21.from him. At only 20, his day will Congratulations! That lived up to
:57:21. > :57:26.expectation? I enjoyed the bout. It went well. It was good to box him
:57:26. > :57:30.again. Were you aware you were behind on points in the second
:57:30. > :57:38.round? You pulled it out in that secretary orpbd round? He must have
:57:38. > :57:45.been -- second round? He must have been studying, working in the first
:57:45. > :57:55.round. I wanted to win. I did what I had to. And moving forward, you
:57:55. > :57:55.
:57:55. > :58:02.are getting to spire with Joshua in the games, what is that doing to
:58:02. > :58:11.you and your confidence? It is very good at GB, plus the training and
:58:11. > :58:17.stuff. Well done - congratulations! OK. Quality boxing between Frazer
:58:17. > :58:21.Clarke and Joe Joyce. They are big boys and because they lack that
:58:21. > :58:24.international finesse, they lack defence, which is great for the
:58:25. > :58:29.spectators. Horrible if you train one of them and you are watching
:58:29. > :58:34.through your fingers. They went for it, like they have now, the third
:58:34. > :58:40.time in seven months. 73 points, split between two heavyweights, OK.
:58:40. > :58:47.That's, I am an oldish man - I have been around a long time - that is
:58:47. > :58:51.the highest quality I have ever seen a heavyweight fight reach.
:58:51. > :58:56.you think there has been a complacency?
:58:56. > :59:00.He had a good finish a few weeks ago. He beat phrase phrase last
:59:00. > :59:06.year in the GB championships. He was trying too hard with his right
:59:06. > :59:12.hand. Because he was waiting for the right hand... He's only a 20-
:59:12. > :59:19.year-old baby - he was pushing on. Joe threw it away by going right-
:59:19. > :59:22.hand happy. The quality of the boxing has been sensational, hasn't
:59:22. > :59:28.it? We had the final and it was the best finalsvy seen, going back
:59:28. > :59:35.about 30 years. H's more, there were 12 -- what's more, there were
:59:36. > :59:39.12 boxers there of 20 and under. We have such depth, such quality
:59:39. > :59:47.coming through, we are the envy of the world. That includes the
:59:47. > :59:57.Russians and the Cubans. We have seen a fight going back in history
:59:57. > :00:01.
:00:01. > :00:09.would be the best fight in 50 years. Charlie flew in from Scotland, I
:00:09. > :00:14.like his style. Zack Davies has got something to prove, and 60 can
:00:14. > :00:19.grunt be his call for grabs. This is the type of fight that will not
:00:19. > :00:24.be international quality, but it will be entertainment quality. We
:00:24. > :00:34.are in the entertainment business, and we? My let's go ringside and
:00:34. > :00:37.
:00:37. > :00:41.Joshua Taylor from Scotland will be Britain's representative in this
:00:41. > :00:49.division in 2012, and just in a couple of months' time. There has
:00:50. > :00:59.not been a Scotsman since Barcelona, when Brian Carr was there. You had
:01:00. > :01:00.
:01:00. > :01:06.three of them in your squad in Seoul. Yes, Dave Anderson, he was a
:01:06. > :01:11.great boxer. Late these and gentlemen, about No. 6 is a light
:01:12. > :01:21.weight final at 60 kilos. A contest of three three-minute rounds
:01:22. > :01:24.
:01:24. > :01:34.between and introducing, coming from the red corner Zack Davies. In
:01:34. > :01:36.
:01:36. > :01:46.the blue corner, representing Scotland, Charles Flynn. Zack
:01:46. > :01:48.
:01:48. > :01:53.Even though it is just after 3 o'clock on a Sunday afternoon,
:01:53. > :01:57.Charlie Flynn, the youngster in blue from Motherwell in Lanarkshire
:01:57. > :02:05.in Scotland looks like he should be tucked up in bed with his teddy
:02:05. > :02:12.bear. He looks like he is 12 years of age. He has quite a prospect, he
:02:12. > :02:18.has won Youth Championships on no fewer than five occasions. His
:02:18. > :02:25.opponent is that it much more experienced from Wales, Zak Davies.
:02:25. > :02:34.He has been on the GB Development squad for the last few years. He
:02:34. > :02:41.won a gold in Estonia just a month ago, a couple of very good wins. He
:02:41. > :02:50.beat the Norwegian 14-4. Scotland in blue, Wales in red. Charlie
:02:50. > :02:54.Flynn looks a nice little prospect. He does, Davies is keeping a nice
:02:54. > :03:04.tight guard so whenever Charlie Flint is throwing it seems to be
:03:04. > :03:09.
:03:09. > :03:13.blocked and parried. Davies is the more experienced one here. Zack
:03:13. > :03:23.Davies has been on the development squad for three years so this is a
:03:23. > :03:25.
:03:25. > :03:30.good opening. Nothing much between them in this opening round. A very
:03:30. > :03:36.cagey start, and they have similar styles - high and watertight
:03:36. > :03:40.defences. The neither of them want to make mistakes here but Zack
:03:40. > :03:49.Davies is blocking a lot of the body, trying to get as close to
:03:49. > :03:54.Flint as possible. -- to Charlie Flynn. A wide stance, and he hit
:03:55. > :04:00.his opponent with a very solid right town just underneath the left
:04:00. > :04:05.elbow of the Welshman. There is that shot round the corner again,
:04:05. > :04:11.and Charlie Flynn is going for a lot of body shots so he has been
:04:11. > :04:20.well schooled on are. He is concentrating on planting his feet,
:04:20. > :04:25.catching Charles Flynn with the odd jab. A bit wild by young Master
:04:25. > :04:35.Charlie Flynn but he is coming forward all the time. He pops his
:04:35. > :04:36.
:04:36. > :04:40.shot out, then gets his hands straight up again. Zack Davies
:04:41. > :04:45.turned 20 in February, still a lot to go. This is a real test for
:04:45. > :04:49.young Charlie Flynn because he is boxing well but he has got to go
:04:49. > :04:59.through this watertight guard so that is the challenge for him. A
:04:59. > :05:00.
:05:00. > :05:04.good round. Who has got the first round? I think Davies is just ahead.
:05:04. > :05:09.A little bit of action from the first round, good footwork by
:05:09. > :05:14.Charles Flynn. Avoided the right, then got caught by the left. Some
:05:14. > :05:24.good solid work into the body, good footwork, had to duck down a little
:05:24. > :05:34.
:05:34. > :05:44.This is that -- Charles Flynn has got it. Rightly so, he scored well
:05:44. > :05:47.
:05:47. > :05:57.to the body. you always felt when the computer scoring system came in
:05:57. > :05:58.
:05:58. > :06:02.that the body shots would not count, but that has not happened. Charlie
:06:02. > :06:10.flew in coming forward, he got the silver in the recent Commonwealth
:06:10. > :06:15.Games youth tournament held on the Isle of Man. His won by one single
:06:15. > :06:20.point. It was a great experience for him, and Davies will know he is
:06:20. > :06:25.probably behind. Charles Flynn will be trying to pick him off, and I do
:06:25. > :06:29.like his defence. That was a good shot from Charlie Flynn. Davies
:06:29. > :06:34.just made a mistake, as he was coming forward dropped his hands a
:06:34. > :06:42.little bit and Charlie Flynn took advantage. I think you are right,
:06:42. > :06:51.Jim, Davies feels like his behind. He is walking up to too many.
:06:51. > :06:59.pace has picked up. What a good shot. Timed it perfectly, round the
:06:59. > :07:03.corner of the opponent's left. That was a typical counter-attack from
:07:03. > :07:08.Charles Flynn. He waited and waited. Davies was just about to launch his
:07:08. > :07:18.own attack, and he stepped in to land the right hand counter-attack.
:07:18. > :07:47.
:07:47. > :07:57.Sue -- superb. We have two outstanding medal prospects - Selby
:07:57. > :08:07.in the bantamweight division. There is plenty to celebrate over. This
:08:07. > :08:11.is any one's it is a cracker. has impressed me is the way Charlie
:08:11. > :08:21.playing his commanding the ring, cutting off the escape route the
:08:21. > :08:21.
:08:21. > :08:24.Welsh man is looking for. Good defence work. There is another left
:08:24. > :08:30.hook from Charlie for lend so he has landed some quality shots in
:08:30. > :08:35.this round. Keeping those hands up very nicely indeed with 20 seconds
:08:35. > :08:40.to go. Charles Flynn coming forward, he may have edged this round as
:08:40. > :08:48.well, so he will have increased his lead going into the third and final
:08:48. > :08:53.round. This would be a considerable scalp. A bit of a slap, which won't
:08:53. > :08:59.count. You have got a land with the knuckle part of that love on the
:08:59. > :09:06.target area with sufficient force. That has been another very good and
:09:06. > :09:11.very busy round. It was a good round. I think Charlie Flynn
:09:11. > :09:17.thought very well. The last 20 seconds, Davies started to catch
:09:17. > :09:24.him, but for the Scotsman earlier in the round have this right hand.
:09:24. > :09:28.Coming forward. There is again. He made Davies go back, and he was
:09:28. > :09:38.looking for the right hand constantly during that round. He
:09:38. > :09:39.
:09:39. > :09:47.caught Davies with some excellent punches. One round - keep focused,
:09:47. > :09:53.shots mid-range, work very hard. We have got to do it. He has been told
:09:53. > :09:56.to get up close to his man. The air was only one point between them so
:09:56. > :10:06.that little flurry at the end may have picked up some points for
:10:06. > :10:11.Davies. This is there for the taking. Will it be the teenager in
:10:11. > :10:16.bloom from Scotland, or the Welshman Zack Davies who only
:10:16. > :10:21.turned 20 himself in February? can't afford to get to confident on
:10:21. > :10:28.the front foot. You go forward, you catch your opponent with punches.
:10:28. > :10:35.If you get sloppy, you can walk on to counters and that is what
:10:35. > :10:42.happened to Zack Davies in the last A good right hand, a straight right
:10:42. > :10:51.hand right down the middle by Charlie Flynn. Davies just slowing
:10:51. > :10:55.a little bit now. Again, Charles Flynn gets regard all. One little
:10:55. > :11:00.flurry could swing this contest, and there was not a battle from the
:11:00. > :11:04.Welsh month. He is brimming with confidence now. Charles Flynn is
:11:04. > :11:09.still just a baby coming forward, just got caught by a good right
:11:09. > :11:15.hand from Davies. Davies may have turned the corner now. He is
:11:15. > :11:18.starting to battle back, bringing Charlie playing on to the punchers.
:11:18. > :11:28.After Charles Flynn has landed the shots, he has got to get his guard
:11:28. > :11:29.
:11:29. > :11:36.If Charles Flynn keeps progressing at this rate, what a prospect he
:11:36. > :11:44.will be for the Commonwealth Games. He is a baby, and he will develop.
:11:44. > :11:49.But this is not over yet. Charles Flynn needs a big finish now, and
:11:49. > :11:59.for my money Davies has just eased ahead. Charles Flynn has got a lot
:11:59. > :12:00.
:12:01. > :12:07.to do. Davies response, the hands dropping a have a -- dropping a
:12:07. > :12:13.little bit. His coach was saying made to short range so when he is
:12:13. > :12:19.in the distance he has got to throw some shots. A bit of a slapping
:12:19. > :12:29.right hand, but it landed. I would not like to bet anyone's mortgage
:12:29. > :12:39.on this one, let alone yours. is a close one. There is a bit of a
:12:39. > :12:44.
:12:44. > :12:49.problem - has Charlie Fleming got a cut? -- Flynn. I think Davies has
:12:49. > :12:59.pulled it round to be honest, but Charlie Flint is starting to come
:12:59. > :13:04.
:13:04. > :13:10.I think Charles Flynn is running out of time. A great shot, great
:13:10. > :13:17.little left hand from the Scot. Is it going to be enough in another
:13:17. > :13:22.cracking contest? And again. Slipped to his left, pulled that
:13:22. > :13:26.left shot round again. He just showed his experience there,
:13:27. > :13:31.turning to southpaw. This is a great contest either way.
:13:32. > :13:35.Championship boxing in a championship final from two
:13:35. > :13:41.champions of their country. What more could you ask for? They have
:13:41. > :13:45.given it just about everything. Charles Flynn ahead at the end of
:13:45. > :13:51.the first and second, but will he be ahead at the end of the third
:13:51. > :13:59.when it matters? A good sequence from Davies, and he put a few of
:13:59. > :14:05.those together in the last round. Super skills, a very talented
:14:05. > :14:12.Scotsman. The shots from Charles Flynn were maybe the crisper and
:14:12. > :14:22.the cleaner in that round. It is all down to the judges. What have
:14:22. > :14:24.
:14:24. > :14:34.they decided? Ladies and gentlemen, good are askew to show your
:14:34. > :14:49.
:14:49. > :14:59.And the winner of the light weigh, 60 kilo champion. A score at 24-all.
:14:59. > :15:07.
:15:07. > :15:11.After countback, the score was 109- 111. The winner in the blue corner
:15:11. > :15:16.Charles Flynn. Representing Scotland. It went to countback. I
:15:16. > :15:23.don't think we will see anything as close T number of shots landed in
:15:23. > :15:27.total was 111, to 109 in favour of Charles Flynn.
:15:27. > :15:32.The new teenage Scottish sensation has taken a well-earned rest, but
:15:32. > :15:36.he's about to talk to Andy. Congratulations! How does it feel?
:15:36. > :15:42.You have just beaten a seasoned international? At love work. The
:15:42. > :15:50.coach has put a lot of work into me. Constantly every day of the week,
:15:50. > :15:54.training, sprints, great thanks to my trainer and physios. It was a
:15:54. > :16:00.hard fight. I just pulled it off. This is important going forward
:16:00. > :16:04.because the GB coachs will look at you now? Good to be in the GB camp
:16:04. > :16:08.and get the experience. Different tactics, different movements. It's
:16:08. > :16:16.a really good opportunity. You will be the next generation which will
:16:16. > :16:20.head to the next Olympic Games. The Commonwealth games will be - so
:16:20. > :16:29.great for your confidence? Different countries, different
:16:29. > :16:33.boxers, different styles. Constantly building. Charles Flynn
:16:33. > :16:37.- the first time you have seen him in action. First time I have seen
:16:37. > :16:46.in the flesh. I got reports yesterday. They said, he looks like
:16:46. > :16:52.a little pro. When I was watching him, it looked like a 16-year-old
:16:52. > :16:55.Ricky Hatton. He has the same hair. It was like watching him. Same skin
:16:55. > :16:59.colour, same shot. I thought the decision was right, don't get me
:16:59. > :17:04.wrong - I know it went to the countback, which is a complicated
:17:04. > :17:10.thing to explain, but I think overall the right boy and he is a
:17:10. > :17:20.boy, 18, the right boy won. If he goes on to achieve half of his idle,
:17:20. > :17:30.
:17:30. > :17:36.he will be doing some. The -- McTaggarth got hit. He has -- could
:17:36. > :17:45.not have a style further away from the real maestro, arguably the
:17:45. > :17:49.greatest amateur boxer of all time, Dick McTaggarth. If he takes his
:17:49. > :17:52.natural aggression at 18, more than that, after that he's got a great
:17:52. > :17:57.career. The timing could be good as well.
:17:57. > :18:02.They happen to be in Glasgow. The Scottish fans will get behind him.
:18:02. > :18:08.He can talk. He is 18 years of age. He was a great talker. What happens
:18:08. > :18:12.in two years' time, when he has had media exposure? I can guarantee you
:18:12. > :18:18.that my phone, before the end of the night, I would have had a
:18:18. > :18:25.couple of calls from pro managers talking about not anybody else
:18:25. > :18:31.we've seen, but that kid. I bet you 5! It was a terrific
:18:31. > :18:41.contest here at The Troxy earlier today. It was with the smallest
:18:41. > :18:47.
:18:47. > :18:57.Jack Bateson in the blue. A serious target there for Ashley Williams to
:18:57. > :19:02.
:19:02. > :19:08.stride for. He has to close that Williams gets the hands up. He's a
:19:08. > :19:14.good guard has Williams. He comes forward in the Welsh corner.
:19:14. > :19:22.Bateson has got to box on the back foot. Does not need to stand there,
:19:22. > :19:28.but then gets caught. Williams really is having a go.
:19:28. > :19:34.Again Bateson's defence is pretty solid.
:19:34. > :19:40.The GB boxer is on the back foot at range. He is superb. He really is.
:19:40. > :19:48.He allows Williams to close the gap. The little Welsh man keeps come
:19:48. > :19:52.KFOR ward, determined. The 49 kilogram division. Two good solid
:19:52. > :19:56.scoring shots there from the man in blue.
:19:56. > :20:02.That extra quality from Bateson. That was superb with the left hook.
:20:02. > :20:07.Content to stay on the back foot, got to move up those ropes though.
:20:07. > :20:12.What an engine Williams has got - what an engine - he hasn't stopped.
:20:12. > :20:19.He ploughs forward. He needs to move his head more. He needs to try
:20:19. > :20:25.and avoid shots on the way in. He is working well downstairs. Well,
:20:25. > :20:30.the last round to go. Williams is turning it on. He has great stamina.
:20:30. > :20:36.What a cracking contest in the lightest division of all. Straight
:20:36. > :20:42.punches from Bateson on the back foot. What is Bateson doing there?
:20:42. > :20:46.Holding his feet. He's making life easy for the Welshman there.
:20:46. > :20:49.He's under pressure a little bit, Bateson. He had a three-point
:20:49. > :20:57.cushion going into this last round. Williams has closed the gap a
:20:57. > :21:07.little bit. There will not be much in it.
:21:07. > :21:25.
:21:25. > :21:28.Just that extra quality is come At last, there are signs that
:21:28. > :21:34.Ashley Williams might be tiring. Very determined. Hard to score
:21:34. > :21:40.those shots on the inside from Williams. Not really clean punches.
:21:40. > :21:45.It's all on the back foot. A wide swing by Williams. That's
:21:45. > :21:53.going to be it. I will be surprised if Bateson has not got this. My
:21:53. > :21:58.word, he has worked hard for it. What a cracking contest.
:21:58. > :22:02.Super contest. Great performance from both. Very, very determined.
:22:02. > :22:06.Bateson had that quality. A lovely variation. I think he just squeezed
:22:06. > :22:11.down, but there, finishing on the left hook there and came back with
:22:11. > :22:15.the right hand. Holds his feet. Williams comes downstairs with a
:22:15. > :22:19.good right hook there. Bateson - that quality. There was that left
:22:19. > :22:23.hook and right hand again - that combination. That was excellent.
:22:23. > :22:29.Just able to get the shots around the corner, using that superior
:22:29. > :22:36.reach of his. Sweeping around the outside, first the right and then
:22:36. > :22:42.the left of the Welshman, who never took his foot off the ped of what
:22:43. > :22:47.has been a great -- pedal of what has been a great contest.
:22:47. > :22:54.Ladies and gentlemen, can I ask you to show your appreciation to both
:22:54. > :23:02.boxers please. An excellent contest. APPLAUSE.
:23:02. > :23:09.And the winner of the light flyweight 49 kilos final and GB
:23:09. > :23:14.champion for 2012 by a score of 21- 17, in the blue corner, Jack
:23:14. > :23:19.Bateson. Only four between them. Three
:23:19. > :23:23.between them going into the last round and a busy last round for
:23:23. > :23:29.both boxers. That little bit of extra skill just won it for Jack
:23:29. > :23:37.Bateson. His aim and all the other boxers here today is to feature in
:23:37. > :23:44.the Olympics in London 2012. You are both in there for Team GB.
:23:44. > :23:50.You are a proud Londoner. How does it feel to be there? Being in my
:23:50. > :23:55.back garden hopefully I have the whole of London representing me.
:23:55. > :23:59.Everybody is tipping you for gold and you following Amir Khan. Is
:23:59. > :24:03.that the kind of pressure you welcome? Yes, most definitely. We
:24:03. > :24:08.all have pressure and expectations, within ourselves. I'm going to feel
:24:08. > :24:13.the pressure, but I am going to deal with it and turn it into good
:24:13. > :24:17.energy. Four years in boxing - your progress has been staggering?
:24:17. > :24:22.Behind closed doors we work hard, learn and listen. We go out and get
:24:22. > :24:28.the job done. It has worked quickly. I have to keep on moving forward.
:24:28. > :24:35.Anthony, you are one of the last to qualify for the Olympics. Has it
:24:35. > :24:40.sunk in? The Games are 68 days away. It is starting to sin income.
:24:40. > :24:45.have had quite a -- is starting to sink in. You had quite a journey.
:24:45. > :24:49.You were in the last-chance saloon at one point? My performance had
:24:49. > :24:54.not been as good as I would have liked. I have qualified for the
:24:54. > :24:59.Olympic Games. It is all I wanted to do. To have finally done it and
:24:59. > :25:04.I can enjoy the excitement around the Olympic Games and enjoy
:25:04. > :25:10.becoming an Olympian. We have the performance director of Team GB.
:25:10. > :25:15.You have come back from China. What a terrific performance from the
:25:15. > :25:22.girls? All three qualified. We got a gold, silver and bronze. Little
:25:22. > :25:26.Lisa, the feather weight won a bronze out there. It shows you the
:25:26. > :25:31.strength coming out of the women. These guys have qualified, as have
:25:31. > :25:36.the women in China. This is just the start. We're on the running now
:25:36. > :25:41.we are ten weeks out from the Olympic Games. We have a good squad
:25:41. > :25:45.assembled. We have ten qualifiers. One boxer who was unlucky not to
:25:45. > :25:51.qualify. We have ten, seven men and three women. They all have great
:25:51. > :25:58.chances of winning medals. We have talked about how when Amir Khan was
:25:58. > :26:03.the only GB boxer, in 2008 in the Olympics - what can you put this
:26:03. > :26:08.down to? We have a great structure. We have tremen tous boxers coming
:26:08. > :26:12.through all the nations. It is our job to identify the boxers, the
:26:12. > :26:17.ones with best international potential and coach them for
:26:17. > :26:22.internation at events and win medals. Back in January last year,
:26:22. > :26:27.I think there were 37 boxers in the different development squads. It
:26:27. > :26:30.has not been an overnight success. We have not suddenly got seven
:26:30. > :26:34.boxers and three women going there, we have been working since the
:26:34. > :26:38.plane landed from Beijing, putting in place the success we are
:26:38. > :26:42.enjoying now. Would you agree with that? I have come in late, but the
:26:42. > :26:45.guys who have been there for four years and even before Beijing, they
:26:45. > :26:50.have been putting in hard work. They are lucky enough to go to the
:26:50. > :26:58.Games in London. I am proud of them as well. It is about coping nerves,
:26:58. > :27:02.having the Olympics back in your back yard? We have one of the best
:27:02. > :27:07.coaches in the world, and the other coaches we have. We owe a lot oh
:27:07. > :27:11.them. They are there getting the most out of us. Thanks to them as
:27:11. > :27:14.well. It is true, you are almost building a legacy at the moment?
:27:15. > :27:19.is nice to think that. The most important thing is to give boxers
:27:19. > :27:28.the best chance to have a great career, fulfil their potential and
:27:28. > :27:34.win medals and go on to bigger things. Boxing opens doors for you.
:27:34. > :27:38.I am sure they cannot all be Olympians and win medals, when they
:27:38. > :27:42.leave they know more about life and what avenues they will go. For sure,

:28:01. > :28:09.this pressure. The big fella, he will only go out if there are
:28:09. > :28:15.15,000 people watching! Thank you. We have been treated to a great
:28:16. > :28:24.afternoon of boxing here at The Troxy. We have been given a glimpse
:28:24. > :28:33.into amateur boxing. Goodbye.
