:00:39. > :00:44.Hello and welcome to Hamburg, home of the 2017 boxing World
:00:45. > :00:48.Championships. 12 British boxers have qualified to be here and will
:00:49. > :00:52.battle it out to be crowned the best in the world. But that will not be
:00:53. > :00:58.easy. Britain has not had a mental is that world champion for ten
:00:59. > :01:02.years. With Olympic medal heroes including Nicola Adams turning
:01:03. > :01:08.professional after Rio, it is almost an entirely new squad aiming for
:01:09. > :01:12.Tokyo 2020. GB's next-generation has started their journey with a
:01:13. > :01:23.record-breaking bang. The European champion!
:01:24. > :01:29.England boxing have won more medals than any other nation. They showed
:01:30. > :01:35.their potential at the European Championships, doing so well. When
:01:36. > :01:46.you look at it, we have got a boxer with a decent level of experience at
:01:47. > :01:52.each weight. My strengths in the ring while desiring to be the best.
:01:53. > :02:00.I think my main attribute is my ability to hit in the ring. People
:02:01. > :02:06.think my power is my best attribute but it is my feet. My boxing style
:02:07. > :02:12.is about movement. I am tall, rangy, orthodox. Not many people can keep
:02:13. > :02:19.up, to be fair. When I am in the ring, they cannot touch me. I have
:02:20. > :02:26.the fastest feet. I am a good counterpuncher. If I hit you, you
:02:27. > :02:32.are going down. We took 12 boxes to Rio, we have two remaining. It is
:02:33. > :02:40.almost started in scenario. There is decent experience already in the
:02:41. > :02:44.team and real inexperience as well. I put my body through hell the past
:02:45. > :02:49.six weeks. Sometimes, you have got to be willing to go through hell to
:02:50. > :02:55.dance in heaven. Just looking to become a superstar. You have to
:02:56. > :03:05.worry about yourself, make sure you are in the best shape you can be. I
:03:06. > :03:12.will be reaching for the bar. We all want to be the same thing, world
:03:13. > :03:17.champion. I was a bit of a boy at Rio and now I am turning into a man.
:03:18. > :03:22.We are not there to make the numbers, we are going there to be
:03:23. > :03:31.business. They showed in the Europeans they can step up, but the
:03:32. > :03:36.worlds is as tough as it gets. On the day, they are capable of winning
:03:37. > :03:40.medals and doing well. This is that sports hall in Hamburg where the
:03:41. > :03:45.boxing will be taking place. To discuss the action, two Olympic
:03:46. > :03:50.bronze medallists. Ritchie, you are one of the GB boxing coaches, you
:03:51. > :03:55.know the scene well. Relatively youthful, inexperienced, what can we
:03:56. > :04:01.expect from them? You are right, it is an inexperienced team, but there
:04:02. > :04:05.is talent right through it. A former Olympian. A little bit of
:04:06. > :04:08.experience. We're hoping for big things. I liked the look of Pat
:04:09. > :04:13.McCormick as well, another Olympian. The rest of the lads, very
:04:14. > :04:16.inexperienced, but they did really well at the European Championships
:04:17. > :04:21.and let us hope they can go one step further and do well in this
:04:22. > :04:24.tournament. You know all about this competition, you competed at the
:04:25. > :04:29.World Championships. What is it like in the build up to the event and how
:04:30. > :04:32.difficult is it to compete? Really tough competition. The World
:04:33. > :04:41.Championships, very tough. You have guys from all over the world. I have
:04:42. > :04:46.been in the system, trained alongside Richie and the guys, a
:04:47. > :04:50.great coaching network, and the guys have trained hard and they will be
:04:51. > :04:54.ready. For me, I am excited to see who will nudge ahead, who will put
:04:55. > :05:00.themselves on the world stage and say, I am going to win a medal in
:05:01. > :05:06.Tokyo 2020. It will be a great event. Only two of the current squad
:05:07. > :05:10.out of ten competed in Rio. GB boxing has essentially had to start
:05:11. > :05:14.from scratch every four years. How difficult is that? You have hit it
:05:15. > :05:18.on the head. It has been decimated, the squad. They have dreams of being
:05:19. > :05:22.professional world champions. We are trying to get the lads to the
:05:23. > :05:26.Olympic Games to win Olympic gold medals. We are trying to make them
:05:27. > :05:30.see they have so much potential in the amateur game. It is very
:05:31. > :05:35.difficult when the promoter comes along and you see the Anthony
:05:36. > :05:38.Joshuas who have turned pro, lots of money, they want to be world
:05:39. > :05:42.champions, but we want to get them to the Olympics to get the gold
:05:43. > :05:46.medal and everyone in the team here, England and Scotland, I think they
:05:47. > :05:52.are good enough to go on and win medals at the Olympic Games. You
:05:53. > :05:55.know about that, when a promoter comes knocking at your door after
:05:56. > :05:58.your Olympic bronze medal in London 2012, you turn professional. How
:05:59. > :06:03.strong is the draw of the glamour and money? Ritchie can testify this
:06:04. > :06:08.again, when you have boxed at the Olympic Games, it is hard to go back
:06:09. > :06:12.around the world and go to Luxembourg, Lithuania, get yourself
:06:13. > :06:16.up for it. Hence the reason I turned pro, it was not for the money, it
:06:17. > :06:22.was for the big nights, like the Olympic Games. We are here, the
:06:23. > :06:25.Olympics are three years away, everyone is here to set out their
:06:26. > :06:31.stall and to try to win a medal and this is a great opportunity. This is
:06:32. > :06:35.a hard competition, Cubans, Americans, how difficult is it for a
:06:36. > :06:41.British boxer to come here and stand on the podium? Very difficult. I
:06:42. > :06:44.remember it in 1989, first round against the Cuban number one,
:06:45. > :06:50.favourite for the gold medal. You can draw a Cuban in the first round,
:06:51. > :06:54.Russian, Kazakhstan, highly ranked. You have to listen to your ability
:06:55. > :06:57.and listen to the coaches and the tactics. All of the lads are
:06:58. > :07:02.talented but you need a bit of luck in the draw. Thank you for your
:07:03. > :07:08.thoughts. The best of the highlights through the afternoon. First in
:07:09. > :07:15.Hamburg, the new European champion. My name is Peter McGrail, 56 kilos,
:07:16. > :07:23.bantamweight category. My boxing style is all about movement and fast
:07:24. > :07:29.hands. People on social media have been calling me the Scouse... A good
:07:30. > :07:38.person to be compared to! He has just joined Olympic boxing legends!
:07:39. > :07:42.Peter McGrail is the European champion! I was always in the middle
:07:43. > :07:49.stages, giving me confidence, going into the worlds. Pointless
:07:50. > :07:54.feeling... You need to just worrying about yourself. To be the number one
:07:55. > :08:04.in Europe, now to be champion of the world, just got to be champion of
:08:05. > :08:09.the other half now! Seeded fourth, McGrail was given a bye in the first
:08:10. > :08:20.preliminary round, before winning in the second. Then a matchup. He knew
:08:21. > :08:25.a win would get him a bronze medal in his first World Championships. We
:08:26. > :08:31.joined about in the third round. Your commentators Ronnie Michael
:08:32. > :08:39.Tonge and Richie Woodall. -- Ronnie McIntosh. Some adjustment required
:08:40. > :08:46.to the beltline. Not just a fashion statement. Good right hand from
:08:47. > :08:56.McGrail. It must be visible at all times. McGrail gets a good jab to
:08:57. > :09:00.the body. Hence the common expression below the belt. Anything
:09:01. > :09:04.below the white line is an illegal punch. A better start of the round
:09:05. > :09:13.from McGrail here. He seems to be on the front foot. His footwork has
:09:14. > :09:19.been a little bit better. Does not want to be slowing it down.
:09:20. > :09:23.Dangerous, De Los Santos, when he conceived the attacks coming, he is
:09:24. > :09:27.effective with his right hand. So important McGrail keeps the movement
:09:28. > :09:32.going side to side, in and out. The tactic for the man in blue. The man
:09:33. > :09:37.in red, when he slows it down, he is still very dangerous indeed. I spoke
:09:38. > :09:45.with McGrail in between sessions at the championships. Global medallist
:09:46. > :09:49.already at the youth Olympic bronze in 2014 and World Championship
:09:50. > :09:58.bronze at the youth level that same year. Here he is one win away from
:09:59. > :10:02.repeating that. Confident mood when we spoke in Hamburg. Family support
:10:03. > :10:07.as well. His mother and father are here along with other family members
:10:08. > :10:15.who have come over from Liverpool. Lovely left hand from the man in
:10:16. > :10:24.blue. De Los Santos responds with a right hand to the body. Not as much
:10:25. > :10:28.activity coming from the man in red. The action and stews once again. I
:10:29. > :10:35.am puzzled with the tactics from De Los Santos. Boxing as if he is well
:10:36. > :10:39.ahead and I disagree. McGrail is probably no winning it. McGrail
:10:40. > :10:43.seems to think he is winning, boxing at a place where he is trying to get
:10:44. > :10:47.through it and for me that is not enough. Better work again from the
:10:48. > :10:54.left hand with McGrail. On the ropes. McGrail could not capitalise.
:10:55. > :11:00.They fell into one another. Final 30 seconds here. From my vantage point,
:11:01. > :11:03.in the commentary position in Hamburg, McGrail has done better
:11:04. > :11:10.work in the final round of a contest that appeared to be in the balance.
:11:11. > :11:15.Good one - two combination. McGrail puts his man in a headlock. In no
:11:16. > :11:21.hurry to let him go. All of these things, body language of a man who
:11:22. > :11:26.thinks he has got the contest in the bag. Has it been a dangerous tactic
:11:27. > :11:32.from the Manning read? Right at the end of the bell. I think this man's
:11:33. > :11:37.celebrations are premature -- the man in red. He did brilliantly in
:11:38. > :11:44.the second round after a good first round from McGrail. The third round
:11:45. > :11:48.has surely been won by this man. They are seated all around the
:11:49. > :11:53.boxing ring. They will have different advantage points. But
:11:54. > :11:56.McGrail with a really strong conclusion to the contest. De Los
:11:57. > :12:00.Santos, does he know something we do not? The body language at the end,
:12:01. > :12:05.he thought he had clearly won and I totally disagree with him and I
:12:06. > :12:12.agree with you. McGrail had a better last round from our viewpoint, I
:12:13. > :12:19.think he is the winner. In the blue corner... McGrail, the reigning
:12:20. > :12:24.European champion has defeated the reigning America's continental
:12:25. > :12:30.champion on a split decision verdict 4-1. The man from Merseyside is
:12:31. > :12:34.through to the podium after a terrific display. I am made up. Over
:12:35. > :12:42.the moon. I could not celebrate because I could not get better than
:12:43. > :12:45.a bronze... Made up. All of the family are here, proud, everyone
:12:46. > :12:49.back home in Liverpool and my girlfriend, everyone, everyone is
:12:50. > :12:54.buzzing. A clearly delighted McGrail into the semifinals where he would
:12:55. > :13:03.face the Kazakhstan boxer who had already beaten a top seed early on.
:13:04. > :13:09.Right away, 56 kilograms bantamweight action. This is the
:13:10. > :13:18.semifinal stage, both of these men guaranteed at least Championship
:13:19. > :13:24.bronze. Ranked number 18 in the world, Kairat Yeraliyev, reigning
:13:25. > :13:30.two time national Championship gold medallist. His opponent is a four
:13:31. > :13:37.time national champion of England and Great Britain, ranked number 13
:13:38. > :13:43.in the world, Peter McGrail. Movement, one of the hallmarks of
:13:44. > :13:47.McGrail's boxing. Terrific in the pocket when seemingly in punching
:13:48. > :13:57.range. Move so effectively around the clock face, hitting and moving,
:13:58. > :13:59.presenting a different angle. The problem Kairat Yeraliyev will have
:14:00. > :14:04.here is the movement from McGrail and the man in blue is accomplished
:14:05. > :14:13.with his movement, side to side, that is what he has got to do
:14:14. > :14:18.against the man in red, Yeraliyev. A fairly powerful man. The problem
:14:19. > :14:22.will be controlling McGrail's movement. McGrail has got to hit and
:14:23. > :14:29.move and Yeraliyev has got to try to slow down his feet. Yeraliyev
:14:30. > :14:35.putting all of his weight on the back foot, and effective shot from
:14:36. > :14:44.McGrail. Yeraliyev being spoken to about his arm. Thrusting his for
:14:45. > :14:51.harm -- forearm beneath the neck of McGrail, testing his strength. Both
:14:52. > :14:57.men moving counterclockwise. I know these two have sparred each other
:14:58. > :15:01.because Kazakhstan have been over the GB and shared some multination
:15:02. > :15:06.training camps and sparring sessions. These two have sparred.
:15:07. > :15:11.They know all about each other. A bit of success with the 1-2
:15:12. > :15:14.combination. Left hand behind the right jab has got through on a
:15:15. > :15:20.couple of occasions in the last 30 seconds. Can the left-hand from
:15:21. > :15:26.McGrail after Yeraliyev was wide of the mark. McGrail coming forward.
:15:27. > :15:32.The referee is allowing them to work away. Neither boxer really doing so.
:15:33. > :15:37.McGrail slightly quicker, slightly faster hands. Looking at Yeraliyev,
:15:38. > :15:43.the punches coming more and wide with his work, that is why McGrail
:15:44. > :15:46.is catching him with the sharp left hands. Left-hand success for the man
:15:47. > :15:53.in red who is adopting a hand down faster. Shots on the inside to the
:15:54. > :15:58.body of Yeraliyev. Ten second clapper, the concluding stages of
:15:59. > :16:06.the opening round. McGrail, wide-eyed in concentration. McGrail
:16:07. > :16:15.backs up. Touch of blood between the two men -- sporting touch of love.
:16:16. > :16:20.Movement good from McGrail. Just catches McGrail with the straight
:16:21. > :16:31.1-2. Dangerous, the man in red. McGrail beaten him to the shops. --
:16:32. > :16:35.shots. The second round. The outstanding performance by Peter
:16:36. > :16:40.McGrail at the quarterfinals to eliminate the tournament number five
:16:41. > :16:44.seed from the Dominican Republic. But that display from Yeraliyev
:16:45. > :16:53.against a man who beat him two times out of two in the second preliminary
:16:54. > :16:57.round, he beat the reigning Olympic bronze medallist, sensational, the
:16:58. > :17:04.emotion expressed by McGrail when his hand was raised, good right jab,
:17:05. > :17:07.he has built upon that -- the emotion expressed by Yeraliyev. He
:17:08. > :17:17.has carried that confidence throughout the competition.
:17:18. > :17:22.Yeraliyev quickening the tempo. Fairly wide stance. He uses the
:17:23. > :17:27.laid-back. Very important for both boxes to hold the centre of the
:17:28. > :17:32.ring. McGrail slowed down his feet. He has to keep hitting and moving
:17:33. > :17:36.and going to the side. Better movement from McGrail. He has to
:17:37. > :17:41.capitalise on it and make his opponent miss and then he has to
:17:42. > :17:48.score, the man in blue. Good left-hand there, McGrail. Yeraliyev
:17:49. > :17:52.retweeting voluntarily from the ropes, trying to lay a trap,
:17:53. > :18:00.catching McGrail in the square on stance. Good defence with the right
:18:01. > :18:07.hand blocking the shot from Yeraliyev. When your opponent's feet
:18:08. > :18:11.are slow, you have to do the opposite. He wants you to stand and
:18:12. > :18:16.trade, trying to slow you down. If his feet are very slow. You have to
:18:17. > :18:24.quicken up, in and out, side to side, that is what McGrail has to
:18:25. > :18:30.do. Yeraliyev is occasionally making McGrail stand and trade. McGrail has
:18:31. > :18:37.to move. Yeraliyev needs him to stay in one place. Making the man in red
:18:38. > :18:38.miss. No counter from McGrail. Did not get through with anything
:18:39. > :18:54.effective. Spoken to about holding his
:18:55. > :19:00.opponent, McGrail. Pulling down on the back of his head. Yosbany Veitia
:19:01. > :19:04.with his wide legged stance, straight punches there, another
:19:05. > :19:11.right hand from Yeraliyev. Catching McGrail coming in. Terrific from
:19:12. > :19:19.Yeraliyev. Beautiful shot. Good work from McGrail in and out as well. The
:19:20. > :19:27.man in blue is moving better. When he makes his opponent miss, he has
:19:28. > :19:31.to come back and the -- and score. Both men are smiling in the
:19:32. > :19:40.direction of one another. They exchange another sporting touch of
:19:41. > :19:45.glove. They will be fairly pleased in the blue corner. Good work from
:19:46. > :19:49.McGrail. Caught with their left hand from Yeraliyev who was always
:19:50. > :19:53.dangerous. Good movement from Peter McGrail. After the side. Done his
:19:54. > :20:02.work, back out to safety. Good boxing. The third and final round.
:20:03. > :20:09.Ofwat has been a contest of contrasting styles. Peter McGrail
:20:10. > :20:15.exhibiting wonderful manoeuvres, dipping at the knees, nice head
:20:16. > :20:21.movement. Yeraliyev more flat-footed, good shocked the body
:20:22. > :20:27.and counter left-hand over the from McGrail. McGrail letting his hands
:20:28. > :20:33.go. Good from the man in red. Starting to pick it up a bit,
:20:34. > :20:38.Yeraliyev. The first 25 seconds of the round, he felt asleep, I
:20:39. > :20:41.thought. McGrail did a lot better, started the round much quicker.
:20:42. > :20:51.Yeraliyev, got to do more work, the man in red.
:20:52. > :21:00.A bit of forearm from Yeraliyev. McGrail not complaining, the action
:21:01. > :21:03.continues. Again, McGrail making the man miss repeatedly. Any veteran
:21:04. > :21:07.will tell you it is a very frustrating exercise indeed, to be
:21:08. > :21:15.hitting nothing but fresh air. To shot salvo to the body. Counter
:21:16. > :21:20.left-hand upstairs. Good boxing. McGrail switched the attack and
:21:21. > :21:24.stairs, afforded a couple of shots. McGrail, when moving, gets into a
:21:25. > :21:28.rhythm, difficult to box against. Movement excellent again from the
:21:29. > :21:34.man in blue. Hot shotting effectively with the two men
:21:35. > :21:39.engaging in a stand-off. Staring at each other. Counter right hand from
:21:40. > :21:48.McGrail with perhaps the best jab from that exchange. Working his own
:21:49. > :21:52.left-hand now is Yeraliyev. The minute to go in the third and final
:21:53. > :22:00.round. Yeraliyev trying to slow down the pace, draw his man, draw a lead
:22:01. > :22:04.from his man that he can counter. McGrail remaining concentrated,
:22:05. > :22:08.switching between high and low as well. It is Yeraliyev feeling the
:22:09. > :22:18.pace, furtive glance to the red corner. Perhaps enquiring as to how
:22:19. > :22:23.long is left. Is McGrail trying to look busy doing nothing to buy
:22:24. > :22:28.himself sometime? I think he is struggling a little bit, Yeraliyev,
:22:29. > :22:33.in terms of the pace. Probably a bit tired. Trying to stay on the outside
:22:34. > :22:39.and wait for McGrail to come in. It is up to McGrail to push it home,
:22:40. > :22:45.the faster work he has got. Surely McGrail has to test is conditioning
:22:46. > :22:52.in the closing sessions, see how the man responds. Ten second clapper.
:22:53. > :22:57.Yeraliyev, standing, looking threatening, but not doing very much
:22:58. > :23:02.at all. How will the judges score it? Yeraliyev thinks he has got it
:23:03. > :23:06.but McGrail immediately raises his right hand to his supporters in
:23:07. > :23:11.Hamburg. It will be interesting to see. I think McGrail did the better
:23:12. > :23:19.work in the last round. Dangerous, the left-hand, let us see who has
:23:20. > :23:30.got it. Ladies and gentlemen, the winner... In the red corner... It is
:23:31. > :23:37.McGrail, the 18th in the world, goes through to the gold bout with a
:23:38. > :23:41.unanimous decision over Peter McGrail. Bronze for the man from
:23:42. > :23:48.Merseyside. It means the world to me. To win another medal. My second
:23:49. > :23:54.major tournament as a senior. Made up, all of the family are proud.
:23:55. > :24:00.Gutted it is not gold. It was at the Europeans. A few more years
:24:01. > :24:04.experience at the top level and a few more fights and I am pretty sure
:24:05. > :24:09.I will be bringing a world gold-medal home. Not the result he
:24:10. > :24:13.came for. Where did it go wrong? Firstly, I thought he boxed really
:24:14. > :24:17.well. What a year, European champion, bronze medal at the World
:24:18. > :24:22.Championships, cracking year, brilliant. He will be disappointed,
:24:23. > :24:30.but he needs to remember three years before London Olympic Games, 2009, I
:24:31. > :24:37.was not even in the GB squad. Three of us worked hard and got medals. He
:24:38. > :24:41.has got a world at his feet. He should be really proud. We saw some
:24:42. > :24:46.of the fancy footwork from McGrail that he has become famous for. From
:24:47. > :24:50.what you have seen of him do you think you can go on the big things
:24:51. > :24:56.and challenge for a medal at Tokyo 2020? 100%. Very young team here. We
:24:57. > :25:00.have done well. Peter McGrail has boxed really well. The reason why he
:25:01. > :25:03.did not win that fight is because the Catholic who is very expensed
:25:04. > :25:13.and composed, what I would love to see McGrail do is work on the
:25:14. > :25:17.outside a little bit -- the cows. At stages, it was like watching a
:25:18. > :25:21.mirror, both guys very similar. If you can add the composure to his
:25:22. > :25:25.game, he will be their or thereabouts next year, let alone in
:25:26. > :25:30.three years' time. When someone wins a world medal, how much does that do
:25:31. > :25:34.for team spirit? It will set the team alive. One of the best in the
:25:35. > :25:39.world. That is fact. His confidence will go through the roof. Next time
:25:40. > :25:44.he fights the Kazakhstan E fighter again, he will have an aura. The
:25:45. > :25:48.guys will see him, his funding will go up, they will want a bit, they
:25:49. > :25:51.will trade harder to get some of the action as well. What do you think
:25:52. > :25:58.about his performance customer not as composed, but do you think he can
:25:59. > :26:02.go on the big things? -- what do you think about his performance? He has
:26:03. > :26:09.all of the tricks, the speed. What he does really well, he changes the
:26:10. > :26:13.distance, he throws long hooks, Short hoax, straight, changes the
:26:14. > :26:19.distance, terrific fighter, bags of talent, he will go all the way, I
:26:20. > :26:23.really do think that. Not to be for McGrail or GB's Lee McGregor who was
:26:24. > :26:33.beaten by a US fighter and it was Reagan who went onto the
:26:34. > :26:37.bantamweight final. We are going to the third and final round between
:26:38. > :26:47.two men contesting their fifth bout at Hamburg 2017. Both have got
:26:48. > :26:54.through to the point. Good right hand from Ragan. Ragan looking to
:26:55. > :26:58.rough up the man from the inside. Second preliminary round, Yeraliyev
:26:59. > :27:04.terrific display. Hustling away at close quarters, trying to target the
:27:05. > :27:08.body, increasingly physical. This is where Ragan wants it, but can he
:27:09. > :27:13.exploited? He does want it on the inside. Ragan has done the better
:27:14. > :27:18.work at mid and long range. But on the other hand, Yeraliyev, good work
:27:19. > :27:23.from him on the inside. Scrappy and messy, getting through with some
:27:24. > :27:26.shots. Stalemate. More success probably on the inside than he is at
:27:27. > :27:33.long range. Not accurate enough at mid and long range. Instructed it is
:27:34. > :27:35.Ragan who seems to be keen to initiate the clincher after an
:27:36. > :27:41.initial burst of punches. On the inside. This is his fifth contest,
:27:42. > :27:45.is he feeling the pace at the midpoint, approaching the midpoint,
:27:46. > :27:50.of the third and final round? Loading up on the right hand,
:27:51. > :27:57.missing by some distance, Ragan. Again, another physical tussle
:27:58. > :28:02.causing Ragan to go down to the canvas. Spoken to about the
:28:03. > :28:06.infraction, Yeraliyev, muscling down his man like that. Immediately take
:28:07. > :28:12.up similar postures again. Difficult to judge. From the judges'
:28:13. > :28:20.perspective on the inside. It is scrappy, messy, you cannot go either
:28:21. > :28:25.way there. The referee having her hands full keeping them apart is
:28:26. > :28:29.once again they fall into the chests of one another. Ragan working away
:28:30. > :28:35.with his free right hand. Yeraliyev trying to tie him up. Is he saving
:28:36. > :28:40.himself for a grandstand finish? Less than a minute to go. Again,
:28:41. > :28:45.this is how he boxed against Peter McGrail. The furtive glance to the
:28:46. > :28:52.red corner. He has got away with it so many times, the 1-2 and launches
:28:53. > :28:58.forward with his left hand, leaning over. Ragan got to show composure
:28:59. > :29:03.here. Again, he misses wildly, Yeraliyev. I think you are right, he
:29:04. > :29:10.is showing signs of fatigue. The man in red. He keeps turning sideways as
:29:11. > :29:18.well again. The referee is on him. He has been spoken to repeatedly
:29:19. > :29:21.about various transgressions. Closing seconds, and lucky to pick
:29:22. > :29:31.up an official warning here. Ten second clapper sanded. More
:29:32. > :29:38.clinching than wrestling from mid and long range. The American
:29:39. > :29:45.confident he has done enough to be the World Championship. Messy in the
:29:46. > :29:52.bantamweight division of 56 K G. Terrible last round, quality was not
:29:53. > :29:57.very good at all. Yeraliyev, he prefers this type of contest but
:29:58. > :30:04.there is nothing cleaner that is landing for both boxes. The winner
:30:05. > :30:13.by split decision... In the red corner... It is Yeraliyev! Kairat
:30:14. > :30:16.Yeraliyev has claimed World Championship gold here by the
:30:17. > :30:23.narrowest of margins. 3-2 on the scorecard over Duke Ragan from the
:30:24. > :30:27.USA, the 19-year-old from Cincinnati, Ohio, in his first world
:30:28. > :30:31.boxing Championships, he comes away with the fantastic silver medal, no
:30:32. > :30:33.doubt disappointed at this stage, but that is plenty to build upon for
:30:34. > :30:46.the American programme. They say the Worlds is the hardest
:30:47. > :30:53.competition to win and that has proved that case here in Hamburg.
:30:54. > :31:00.The Brett location rack went out in the second round to the Colombian,
:31:01. > :31:06.and there was a similar fate for Niall Farrell who also fell in the
:31:07. > :31:10.second round to another Colombian. Moving up a weight, and there must
:31:11. > :31:13.be something in the water in the north-east. Burnley amateur boxing
:31:14. > :31:19.club has become the first boxing club to have three Great Britain
:31:20. > :31:29.fighters at a World Championships... 69 kilos, welterweight. Callum
:31:30. > :31:38.French, 60 kilos, lightweight. That McCormack. We have been going
:31:39. > :31:43.together since we were 12 years old... We have been best friends as
:31:44. > :31:51.youngsters. Everyone thinks we are living the dream. Absolutely
:31:52. > :32:01.fantastic performance by the young England boxing team. We hope we can
:32:02. > :32:03.to the same at the Worlds. A great feeling, going away with a few met.
:32:04. > :32:08.You want to win even more. A great feeling, going
:32:09. > :32:16.away with a few mates. Looking forward to it, working and
:32:17. > :32:27.living together. Firing at the moment. It is a different level
:32:28. > :32:31.isn't it, the Worlds? It is our dream. Like anything in real life,
:32:32. > :32:35.we will just go out there and do what we have to do. Boxing on the
:32:36. > :32:44.big stage, with the best in the world.
:32:45. > :32:51.So much confidence and water feet by the Birtley club to get the men to
:32:52. > :32:58.this championship, but it wasn't to be for Calum French, to get the
:32:59. > :33:03.Mexican in his first round, but then he was on the wrong end of a hotly
:33:04. > :33:06.debated split decision against his Ukrainian born into. Frenchman Sofia
:33:07. > :33:23.Young Bill -- Sofiane Feghouli -- Oumiha got through. The light
:33:24. > :33:34.welterweight division was eventually won by the brilliant Cuban athlete
:33:35. > :33:39.Andy Cruz, leaving it down to Pat MacCormack, and the Rio Olympian had
:33:40. > :33:42.two class A preliminaries which led to a quarterfinal against the
:33:43. > :33:53.reigning Olympic silver medallist and the top
:33:54. > :34:02.seed Shakhram Giyasov, of Uzbekistan.
:34:03. > :34:06.COMMENTATOR: Top action between boxes of use Pakistan and England.
:34:07. > :34:11.Shakhram Giyasov, the reigning silver medallist from Rio last
:34:12. > :34:18.summer. His opponent, wearing blue, just got through with a good jab,
:34:19. > :34:23.England's Pat McCormick, ranked number 15 in the world, he comes to
:34:24. > :34:31.the ring as the reigning two-time European Championship silver
:34:32. > :34:36.medallist. A fascinating contest in store because both of these men are
:34:37. > :34:43.highly skilled. Giyasov is a very explosive puncher. McCormack also
:34:44. > :34:46.possesses sensational skills. He has already experienced top position on
:34:47. > :34:50.a medal podium at the World Championships, a world junior gold
:34:51. > :34:55.back in 2011. Got through with a hard right cross there. Giyasov is
:34:56. > :34:58.going a little wider with that letter to the body and I think
:34:59. > :35:03.McCormack needs to get his timing right with his left hand. As Giyasov
:35:04. > :35:06.is trying to land that shot he should just beat him to the punch
:35:07. > :35:10.with that straight right hand of his, but we are at this stage in the
:35:11. > :35:14.tournament where you can't really afford to make any mistakes and that
:35:15. > :35:22.was a lovely left-hand from McCormack. You will get punished so
:35:23. > :35:25.you have to limit those but you all to -- was off to try to push your
:35:26. > :35:31.body back, very important at this level. You must push them back and
:35:32. > :35:35.keep the judges happy. We think at GB with that style of judging they
:35:36. > :35:44.prefer boxers on the front foot in these tournaments now. Given his
:35:45. > :35:49.credentials there, and in the professional ranks, part of the
:35:50. > :35:52.coaching staff, Richie, so that is the type of knowledge he is able to
:35:53. > :36:03.share with the current generation of English and GB boxers. It is all
:36:04. > :36:08.about their programme. Indeed, many of them share coaching techniques in
:36:09. > :36:11.the camps, and that is the type of analysis he can bring to his
:36:12. > :36:18.position here. Terrific crowd boxing so far. Giyasov has had success on
:36:19. > :36:29.the back foot. -- terrific round of boxing so far. Giyasov being made to
:36:30. > :36:33.miss. Yes, he has drawn a lot, Giyasov, but not really hitting the
:36:34. > :36:38.target. Probably need to sleep in close quarters to get up to
:36:39. > :36:44.McCormack. He has boxed clever contest up until now on the back
:36:45. > :36:48.foot, Giyasov having success but McCormack has boxed well, in making
:36:49. > :36:52.his opponent echec-mac. This is where you get the sense that Giyasov
:36:53. > :37:02.is at his most comfortable, when he goes out for his man, hands down by
:37:03. > :37:06.a side. Punishing every shot. A lot of threatening in this round,
:37:07. > :37:09.Giyasov, but a lot of misses as well, so he probably through more
:37:10. > :37:13.punches than McCormack but I don't think he hit the target as much as
:37:14. > :37:18.McCormack dead. McCormack punched well on the back foot, two or three
:37:19. > :37:24.shots going well. Giyasov on his gloves together then, trying to urge
:37:25. > :37:31.his opponent on. I think he got cold there. We are into the second round.
:37:32. > :37:37.The boxer wearing blue has just taken a hard left hand to the body,
:37:38. > :37:42.but the referee, from Canada, warning and reminding Giyasov to
:37:43. > :37:50.punch correctly, before he left the blue corner the English court said
:37:51. > :37:59.to his man Pat McCormack, and that was a good move there. No problem
:38:00. > :38:02.boxing on the back foot, but just go back at your opponent occasionally
:38:03. > :38:05.to try to push them back. He then made think twice about coming
:38:06. > :38:11.forward and trying to dictate on the front foot. I think at the moment
:38:12. > :38:14.McCormack is boxing really well. Giyasov has to improve. He looks
:38:15. > :38:22.threatening, looks like he has a good left hook to the body. He is
:38:23. > :38:27.starting his attacks too far out, but this is better boxing from
:38:28. > :38:32.McCormack. A terrific left right combination. Look at the red corner
:38:33. > :38:35.at the top of your screen. Imploring their man to go forward and try to
:38:36. > :38:40.get some effect of aggression going. I think McCormack is setting traps,
:38:41. > :38:45.looking for the advancing Giyasov. Because he got caught, they are,
:38:46. > :38:49.that made him think twice about going forward, Giyasov, because
:38:50. > :38:55.McCormack got in with a good right and left combination. So this is not
:38:56. > :38:58.easy for Giyasov although he is the favourite in this contest, but not
:38:59. > :39:03.an easy night at the moment for. Ranked number three in the world in
:39:04. > :39:10.the tournament, Giyasov, the number one seed. McCormack is seeded number
:39:11. > :39:15.eight and ranked 15 in the world. He is able to relax now. Hard left hand
:39:16. > :39:20.to the body from Giyasov but the shot upstairs was partially blocked
:39:21. > :39:23.by McCormack. I think one of the tactics from the English has been to
:39:24. > :39:28.frustrate that opponent and I think that is what they are doing here.
:39:29. > :39:33.Giyasov coming forward, making mistakes. But I think McCormack is
:39:34. > :39:39.boxing clever contest. Frustration is creeping into Giyasov and that
:39:40. > :39:42.may just create more opportunities for McCormack. More pungent with a
:39:43. > :39:48.straight variety from McCormack and he got through with a lovely left
:39:49. > :39:55.jab, after a cluster. Some of the flashy shots attempted by Giyasov,
:39:56. > :39:58.and that missed by some distance. Away on the inside, Giyasov, again
:39:59. > :40:04.imploring his man to come forward, threatening. It is crucial for
:40:05. > :40:07.McCormack to remain concentrated on the task at hand and stick to what
:40:08. > :40:18.is proving to be a pretty effective game plan so far. The closing
:40:19. > :40:23.seconds of the second round. Again plenty of animated instruction from
:40:24. > :40:28.Giyasov's corner, landing with a good left jab and then a over the
:40:29. > :40:40.top. He is swaggering his way across the ring. A good conclusion to the
:40:41. > :40:44.round from this man. A fairly calm corner, isn't it, the English
:40:45. > :40:48.corner? And rightly so. I think their man is boxing very well at the
:40:49. > :40:52.moment. I think in the last minute of the round Giyasov came back into
:40:53. > :40:55.it and started to get to McCormack a little more, but overall in the
:40:56. > :40:59.round again I thought it was a good display of boxing from McCormack,
:41:00. > :41:06.positive with his counters. Until now it has been a good performance.
:41:07. > :41:10.We are into the third and final round of what has been an absorbing
:41:11. > :41:15.welterweight tussles over. The boxer wearing blue, England's Pat
:41:16. > :41:20.McCormack, starting with a terrific left jab once again. The reigning
:41:21. > :41:23.silver medallist Giyasov is in pursuit of him but has been in
:41:24. > :41:25.pursuit for the majority of the contest. He got closer in the
:41:26. > :41:30.concluding stages of the second round but for the majority of the
:41:31. > :41:34.round, he has been adopting that posture and is being made to
:41:35. > :41:39.echec-mac, and on occasion McCormack has made him pay. I think one of the
:41:40. > :41:43.fault and mistakes Giyasov has got here, cot with a good shot there,
:41:44. > :41:47.seems to put his hands down, he is actually showing you that he has
:41:48. > :41:52.been hit, and that is a bad sign indeed. He keeps coming forward and
:41:53. > :41:56.we spoke about the pressure of boxers having success in this, but
:41:57. > :42:01.he is missing time and again here, and let's get it right. McCormack is
:42:02. > :42:10.winning this contest and boxing better on the back foot. Excessive
:42:11. > :42:14.pressure being applied from Giyasov. McCormack. With the right hand,
:42:15. > :42:22.changing direction wonderfully, McCormack. Right-hand success from
:42:23. > :42:30.Giyasov and left-hand success from McCormack. The difference, Ronald,
:42:31. > :42:33.McCormack's timing is a little better than Giyasov, catching him
:42:34. > :42:36.with the eye-catching punches, and he seems to be reacting a little
:42:37. > :42:40.better, and I think the timing has been a little better from him.
:42:41. > :42:47.Again, good shots going in. The third and final round, Giyasov's
:42:48. > :42:51.face slightly reddened by the poking shots he has been walking on two.
:42:52. > :42:56.McCormack, getting back behind the jab. Giyasov, rising his right glove
:42:57. > :43:09.to say he feels that is a good shot that he landed. The final minute
:43:10. > :43:10.now, of this third and final round. McCormack remaining concentrated,
:43:11. > :43:25.wonderful left right combination again. Left hook blocked from
:43:26. > :43:30.Giyasov. And again, McCormack has the Uzbekistan boxer, imploring him
:43:31. > :43:34.to get forward and get busy, McCormack dictating the temple, lost
:43:35. > :43:43.his footing there. And it is a hard contest, this one. The concentration
:43:44. > :43:47.has been absolute from McCormack. Untidy tangle at close range in the
:43:48. > :43:52.closing seconds, shoeshine shot to the body from Giyasov. Left right
:43:53. > :43:59.combination from the man in red, and another one. McCormack has to finish
:44:00. > :44:02.strong. The left-hand lands from him and is countered immediately from
:44:03. > :44:12.Giyasov. The closing stages, and he walks onto a left right combination.
:44:13. > :44:16.There is Pat McCormack's twin brother Luke, and the English
:44:17. > :44:20.supporters. A terrific performance from the man in blue and we are
:44:21. > :44:24.going to the scorecard. Without a doubt, Ronald, I think there is only
:44:25. > :44:29.one winner for me. From McCormack I think it was a very measured
:44:30. > :44:37.display, and Giyasov him into it in the last round, undoubtedly, but for
:44:38. > :44:42.me, McCormack has won this contest. Lee Grant Edelmann, the winner by
:44:43. > :44:48.unanimous decision, and the red corner, representing it Uzbekistan,
:44:49. > :44:53.Shakhram Giyasov. Shakhram Giyasov declared a unanimous points decision
:44:54. > :44:59.when, one point for the judges, three points for two judges, and
:45:00. > :45:02.England's Pat McCormack, his superb display of backlit boxing, has not
:45:03. > :45:07.been rewarded by the judges here. He is crestfallen over in the blue
:45:08. > :45:12.corner, and it is Giyasov, the Olympic silver medallist, who goes
:45:13. > :45:17.through to the medal podium. The reigning silver medal is left to
:45:18. > :45:21.contemplate a decision that has not gone in his favour. Absolutely
:45:22. > :45:26.gutted. But I won the fight quite easily to be honest. But it outboxed
:45:27. > :45:34.him on the back foot, but the judges didn't give it to me, so gutted.
:45:35. > :45:41.Do you -- would you go after a decision like that, does get you
:45:42. > :45:48.don't? Geller can you I him so I know I am the best in the world. --
:45:49. > :45:52.well, I know that I beat him. Was he robbed there? Anyone in this arena,
:45:53. > :45:55.they looked at those two guys, thought, one is number one in the
:45:56. > :45:59.world, one number 15, and everyone would back the one who is number one
:46:00. > :46:04.in the world. He is every bit as good as the welterweight in the
:46:05. > :46:15.world. He is as good as the Cubans, probably my favourite amateur boxer,
:46:16. > :46:18.in the GB team, but probably around the world as well. He is so fast,
:46:19. > :46:20.shark. The way he judges the distance so well. When the guy steps
:46:21. > :46:23.on, he dips his shoulder, walks in. He has got it all. I feel really
:46:24. > :46:28.sorry for him, because you would think, a couple of years ago, he was
:46:29. > :46:33.hard done by, again, I mean, let's see it as it is. He got robbed
:46:34. > :46:37.tonight. Hopefully he sticks at it and one day you will get his just
:46:38. > :46:40.deserts. Does come to a point, whereas as an amateur boxer you
:46:41. > :46:43.think, if I am going to have all these decisions go against me, I
:46:44. > :46:46.might just join the pro ranks and try my luck there? That must be
:46:47. > :46:53.going through their heads, because it is hard, in the GB team you train
:46:54. > :46:56.every week, you give it your all, you are representing yourself, your
:46:57. > :47:00.family, your club, your country, in these tournaments, and Udal -- when
:47:01. > :47:06.you don't get what you deserve it is horrible. But these guys have big
:47:07. > :47:08.futures in the vests representing their countries. Hopefully they
:47:09. > :47:13.stick at it and their time will come. I will be there cheering for
:47:14. > :47:27.them when it does. It has been pretty tough going for the Birtley
:47:28. > :47:32.boys, Pat McCormack and French. Yes, when you represent your country it

:12:30. > :12:33.posture adopted by La Cruz. Ward fainting with the feet, the left
:12:34. > :12:41.hand that was preceding the right was not too far away. The positive
:12:42. > :12:47.start from Ward but La Cruz settled into his rhythm. Positive start from
:12:48. > :12:51.Ward. Great start from the man in blue. La Cruz got back into it as
:12:52. > :12:57.the round went on, starting to take things better. Into the second round
:12:58. > :13:06.of the 81 kilograms light heavyweight final at Hamburg 2017. A
:13:07. > :13:11.rematch of the final from two years ago and Doha. Joe Ward got silver on
:13:12. > :13:14.that occasion. Third meeting between these two, all on the World
:13:15. > :13:19.Championship stage, good right hand from Ward. Looking for his first
:13:20. > :13:25.victory. Good left jab before the fighters fell into a clinch. The
:13:26. > :13:31.difficult job for Joe Ward. He has to try and find the space on the
:13:32. > :13:36.inside. Very difficult indeed. La Cruz knows his strength is at mid
:13:37. > :13:39.and long range. When they come in at close quarters, he will hold and
:13:40. > :13:43.bring his opponent into his body weight and wait for the referee to
:13:44. > :13:48.separate, and goes back on his bike again. Targeting the right hand
:13:49. > :13:54.effectively in the second round. Ward Square on the ropes, trying to
:13:55. > :13:58.goad Ward to tempt him into coming forward. Enjoying his work now, the
:13:59. > :14:07.reigning champion. Looking for his fourth consecutive title. Good from
:14:08. > :14:13.Ward. He scores with a snaking right hand between the defences of the man
:14:14. > :14:18.from Ireland. Full of confidence, La Cruz. But Ward is having a good go
:14:19. > :14:23.and he caught Ward with a good shot. Has to watch what he is doing, the
:14:24. > :14:27.Cuban. We know Ward is a quality performer himself and has to
:14:28. > :14:32.concentrate and tried to put the punches together and try to catch La
:14:33. > :14:38.Cruz maybe when he is moving away. Then his hands are so low. Look how
:14:39. > :14:43.low his hands. He hits and moves backwards, hands very low, difficult
:14:44. > :14:49.to catch. Joshua came away with Olympic bronze in Rio last summer,
:14:50. > :14:56.he fought La Cruz in the first preliminary round. Another good
:14:57. > :15:02.right hand landed. But he fought and to put him on the canvas, remember.
:15:03. > :15:09.As Ward lands with another right hand. He said that he moved just
:15:10. > :15:14.enough at the last moment, so you think you have got him and then you
:15:15. > :15:20.are just hitting fresh air. That is why he is Olympic champion and third
:15:21. > :15:29.time world champion, Ward. His judgment of distance is exceptional.
:15:30. > :15:34.He has got deceptively long arms. Throwing the shots from his waist
:15:35. > :15:38.and from his knees. Very hard to detect. He sets the traps of having
:15:39. > :15:43.low hands and you think you can catch him as you move towards him,
:15:44. > :15:48.like that, you get caught. Clever boxer. Very frustrating to box
:15:49. > :15:55.against. Remaining committed to his task, Joe Ward, back on the front
:15:56. > :16:03.foot, he too with his hands down. Baring his gumshield, another very
:16:04. > :16:08.good round of boxing for him. 1996 Olympic champion on the left there.
:16:09. > :16:15.Wladimir Klitschko. The shot we spoke about earlier that Ward
:16:16. > :16:25.landed, good punch. Trying the lay back himself. But Ward, long arms.
:16:26. > :16:29.-- but La Cruz, long arms. The third and final round of the gold-medal
:16:30. > :16:34.bout between boxers who know one another very well indeed, a rematch
:16:35. > :16:37.of the 2015 World Championship final from Doha. The man in red packing
:16:38. > :16:46.and poking with the right hand and making his man this by millimetres,
:16:47. > :16:53.the reigning three-time World champion, Julio La Cruz. Ward
:16:54. > :16:59.bamboozle. La Cruz came back with a wonderful left jab, the king of
:17:00. > :17:02.every domain open to him, Olympic champion, world champion, America's
:17:03. > :17:11.champion, Joe Ward, just 23, claimed his third European title this
:17:12. > :17:19.summer. Trying to go one better than the World Championship silver he
:17:20. > :17:25.came away with two years ago. And in 2013, Ward beat two. That is the
:17:26. > :17:30.idea of Ward's ability, ranked number three in the world,
:17:31. > :17:34.tournament number three seed, it is this man who consistently gets the
:17:35. > :17:39.better of him, but La Cruz generally gets the better of everyone he faces
:17:40. > :17:45.in the light heavyweight ranks. Boxing well here. Ward continuing to
:17:46. > :17:50.pursue his man, looking for openings on the inside, neither man working
:17:51. > :17:56.away, the referee allowing them to do so. We pass the midpoint of the
:17:57. > :18:01.third and final stanza. Occasionally Ward throws the 1-2 and he brings
:18:02. > :18:08.his left leg around because La Cruz is so far but with the laid-back, he
:18:09. > :18:14.literally changes stance. The right tactic. He has to try to close down
:18:15. > :18:20.the gap, used his jabs more, Ward. He is upping the tempo, the right
:18:21. > :18:23.thing to do. He has to do it more behind double jabs, double attacks,
:18:24. > :18:31.sustain the pressure. Easier said than done. Ward, versatile boxer, he
:18:32. > :18:36.can box going backwards, perhaps his favoured default position. He lands
:18:37. > :18:42.a good right hand. Causes Ward to become disorganised. He is spoken to
:18:43. > :18:49.by the referee about turning his back on his opponent. -- causes La
:18:50. > :18:54.Cruz to become disorganised. Trying the same shot again, did not land,
:18:55. > :18:59.but he made Ward miss before coming back with a wonderful shot. Ward
:19:00. > :19:04.trying to walk down his man but he cannot get him to stay still long
:19:05. > :19:08.enough to land any leather. He has been made to miss repeatedly.
:19:09. > :19:16.Another masterful display by Julio La Cruz, no doubt on the cusp of
:19:17. > :19:23.emulating Hernandez, his compatriot, four World Championship golds in the
:19:24. > :19:28.well the late -- the welterweight decision. Sporting touch. He is
:19:29. > :19:32.confident he has claimed his fourth successive World Championship golds,
:19:33. > :19:37.La Cruz. Applause from the capacity crowd in attendance in Hamburg. They
:19:38. > :19:44.have just witnessed another masterful display from the world
:19:45. > :19:46.undisputed number one in the 81 kilograms light heavyweight
:19:47. > :19:50.division, Julio La Cruz. Joe Ward gave it everything he had. Once
:19:51. > :20:00.again, he found it difficult to pin down this man. In the red corner...
:20:01. > :20:06.Representing Cuba, Julio La Cruz. Julio La Cruz performs his familiar
:20:07. > :20:12.celebratory salute, his fourth successive World Championship gold
:20:13. > :20:19.medal. This the canvas in celebration. His fourth successive
:20:20. > :20:29.World Championship title. -- kiss of the canvas. Really exceptional
:20:30. > :20:32.Cuban. I gave it my all. I had my moments in the fight. Overall, he
:20:33. > :20:37.deserved to win. Three Will Chudley jibs under your belt now, how far
:20:38. > :20:42.away are you from challenging for gold and beating the world's best?
:20:43. > :20:49.-- three World Championships. Not too far. Not a lot in it. I am
:20:50. > :20:54.always improving. He is getting older, I am fit and young. Who
:20:55. > :21:01.knows, maybe if the Olympics comes around, different story. Once again,
:21:02. > :21:06.Ward loses the La Cruz in a final of the World Championships, as in 2015.
:21:07. > :21:11.What did you make of Ward's performance? Ward is horrible to
:21:12. > :21:20.watch, very awkward, was the box against. On the back foot, he wants
:21:21. > :21:24.you to come in. Give him space, he will pick you. One of those ones,
:21:25. > :21:29.very hard to fight. Joe tried to rough him up a little bit. La Cruz,
:21:30. > :21:33.he does tire. Semi final fight, on the floor a couple of times in the
:21:34. > :21:41.last round, through sheer tiredness. Today he boxed well. Long tournament
:21:42. > :21:46.for him as well. La Cruz best light heavyweight in the world. Joe Ward
:21:47. > :21:50.has been to three World Championships, how long until he
:21:51. > :21:57.becomes the world champion? I think his one problem will be La Cruz. La
:21:58. > :22:02.Cruz is 29, he relies on reflexes. You cannot do that forever.
:22:03. > :22:07.Eventually, he will slow down, lose our yard of pace, so to speak. Joe
:22:08. > :22:12.Ward, the wild swings, he might be able to catch and potentially beat
:22:13. > :22:18.him. If La Cruz is around doing his thing, will struggle. Now time for
:22:19. > :22:20.the heavyweights and going for GB, a man who is happy-go-lucky and lucky
:22:21. > :22:38.to be alive. I was living in Jamaica at the time.
:22:39. > :22:42.I thought I would be real smart about it and go to an unfinished
:22:43. > :22:48.building site and I fell, landed on the steel rod, it went straight into
:22:49. > :22:55.my stomach. The doctor said to my mum, I am very lucky, a very lucky
:22:56. > :23:00.young man. During the operation, I flat lined on the table. Ten years
:23:01. > :23:07.later, when I was 18, I was working. For two weeks, I had this pain.
:23:08. > :23:11.Excruciating. I've still got this pain, walking up the steps, stepped
:23:12. > :23:15.on the last step and fell down the steps. The doctor looked at me and
:23:16. > :23:19.said, your appendix exploded inside you. We had to do all we could to
:23:20. > :23:32.save you. I was really grateful for that. Here I am. Sometimes I look
:23:33. > :23:37.back and I think, wow, I have come a long way. I met Prince Charles. I
:23:38. > :23:42.said, I would give you the 1-2. You don't want any more! He tried to
:23:43. > :23:49.punch me! That was a good moment. The novice, he fought his way
:23:50. > :23:56.through five fights to win a brilliant European Championships
:23:57. > :24:02.silver medal. It is all about the level up. Taking it one moment at a
:24:03. > :24:06.time. I am full of confidence and they are full of confidence in my
:24:07. > :24:11.abilities. Fantastic performance from Clarke. I am not saying my goal
:24:12. > :24:16.was always to go to the Olympics. I started boxing when I was 18.
:24:17. > :24:22.Especially in the last couple of years, yeah, I want to go there, I
:24:23. > :24:33.want to win gold. Make everybody is proud. And again inspire people.
:24:34. > :24:37.Yeah, gold medal, Olympics. Bizarrely, Clarke made it through to
:24:38. > :24:41.the quarterfinals without fighting after a bye in the first round and a
:24:42. > :24:45.walkover in the second when his Angolan opponent did not make it to
:24:46. > :24:52.the way in. He would have to face the Cuban legend, the second seed,
:24:53. > :25:00.in his quarterfinal, Erislandy Savon. Could he cause massive upset?
:25:01. > :25:08.COMMENTATOR: We are under way. This contest, quarterfinal stage of the
:25:09. > :25:12.91 kilogram heavyweight division. The man in red, bustling forwards,
:25:13. > :25:20.England's Clarke, heavy-handed hitter from Gravesham. Competing in
:25:21. > :25:23.his first world boxing Championships, the reigning 2017
:25:24. > :25:29.two-time national champion of England, also taken national titles
:25:30. > :25:32.in Jamaica, the nation he represented at the 2014 Commonwealth
:25:33. > :25:37.Games in light heavyweight. His opponent in blue, Erislandy Savon,
:25:38. > :25:41.reigning silver medallist from two years ago at the World Championship
:25:42. > :25:46.'s, took his third America's continental title earlier this
:25:47. > :25:53.summer in Honduras. Clarke came away with a brilliant European silver
:25:54. > :25:59.with his heavy-handed hitting in evidence. Does not get much tougher
:26:00. > :26:02.for Clarke. Does not do him any favours in this tournament, his
:26:03. > :26:09.buys. Have to get up and running. Employing the right tactics, knows
:26:10. > :26:13.he has to get inside the long arms of his Cuban opponent, Clarke. Very
:26:14. > :26:18.skilful, tall, rangy, brilliant from the centre of the ring, Savon. A
:26:19. > :26:23.little vulnerable from the ropes. That is what Clarke has to target.
:26:24. > :26:29.Fast attacks and sustain the pressure and push the Cuban back to
:26:30. > :26:32.the ropes, where he is a little bit vulnerable, Savon, and were Clarke
:26:33. > :26:44.has to find a space to whip shots over the top. He knows all about the
:26:45. > :26:49.English and Great British opposition, Anthony Joshua in the
:26:50. > :26:54.Olympic Games in 2012, his first opponent. He made life difficult for
:26:55. > :27:04.the man who went on to take Olympic gold. And Lawrence in Rio last
:27:05. > :27:11.summer. Good right hand from Clarke, left jab in response from Clarke. --
:27:12. > :27:17.good right hand from Savon. Needs to apply pressure here. Very skilful
:27:18. > :27:25.experienced operator. A real art to the inside boxing and that is what
:27:26. > :27:28.Clarke has to do here. Closing the gap down and getting on the inside
:27:29. > :27:32.without getting hit, choosing the right punches on the inside,
:27:33. > :27:37.creating space, another problem you have to get around, and getting back
:27:38. > :27:41.to the thinking distance, out punching range, to plan the next
:27:42. > :27:48.attack. The three areas you have to master as a good inside fighter.
:27:49. > :27:52.Successful the left hook. Period of the opening round 30 seconds ago
:27:53. > :27:57.when Savon stepped up the pressure on the front foot himself and
:27:58. > :28:03.looking to get the uppercut always an effective antidote if you can get
:28:04. > :28:06.it way. Good opening round of boxing. Spurts of pressure from
:28:07. > :28:14.Clarke when he had success trying to whip the shot over the top, caught
:28:15. > :28:18.coming forward. Just misses with his left hook. Savon a better fighter,
:28:19. > :28:34.but Clarke nearly caught him with the right hand up close. Into the
:28:35. > :28:40.second round. Just instructing Clarke wants it at his own pace, but
:28:41. > :28:44.he has started quickly in the second round, the snaking left hand he
:28:45. > :28:53.possesses, looking to establish it. When he gets it working, very
:28:54. > :28:57.difficult proposition indeed. Wonderful move around the ring, like
:28:58. > :29:08.so many of his compatriots, good footwork, Clarke targeting the body.
:29:09. > :29:14.A man with a good right hook. I am not sure this type of tempo is going
:29:15. > :29:17.to make life uncomfortable for Savon, but is being applied by
:29:18. > :29:24.Clarke at the moment. Maybe he is trying to lure in the man. But this
:29:25. > :29:32.tempo will suit Savon counter the ground. It will do, but this is now
:29:33. > :29:35.the effect of having buys. If he had a contest, he would have got into
:29:36. > :29:40.the tournament. You shake off cobwebs in the first one anyway. Up
:29:41. > :29:46.against Savon, one of the best heavyweight in the world, a tough
:29:47. > :29:52.ask for Clarke. The buys, he had a bye and then an opponent has pulled
:29:53. > :29:58.out, two walkovers, basically, has not done him any favours, coming
:29:59. > :30:02.into a contest against such a high calibre opponent. By virtue of the
:30:03. > :30:06.number one seeding, a bye in the first round, right uppercut, came
:30:07. > :30:17.through with a cheeky little left against Savon. In the second round,
:30:18. > :30:23.unanimous winner against Ukraine fighter. As you pointed out, Clarke
:30:24. > :30:27.has had to wait on the sidelines. A bye in the opening round and a
:30:28. > :30:34.walkover victory in the second preliminary round against a man from
:30:35. > :30:41.Angola. It is the manner in which Clarke came onto the ring,
:30:42. > :30:46.confident, effusive character. Walked into another left jab. Needs
:30:47. > :30:51.to improve his head movement, Clarke, being picked off by the
:30:52. > :30:56.punches of Savon. Terrific uppercut. That is not the belt and the round.
:30:57. > :31:04.The referee has intervened. Clarke going back to the corner. He
:31:05. > :31:10.intervened... The intermission came at the tutors moment for Clarke
:31:11. > :31:15.because he was under some pressure. -- a full tutors moment. Starting to
:31:16. > :31:18.control the distance very well, Savon, with the jab, creating room
:31:19. > :31:24.and space to bring Clarke onto the shots. Taken the wind out of the
:31:25. > :31:32.sails of Clarke and Savon starting to get into a rhythm.
:31:33. > :31:37.Clarke on the inside, but then he gets caught with a super right
:31:38. > :31:41.uppercut from Savon, a cracking shot, it really was. Clarke trying
:31:42. > :31:45.to come forward and he just gets caught again, and it is the Cuban,
:31:46. > :31:54.Savon, who has maintained that gap in distance between himself and
:31:55. > :32:00.Clarke. We are into the third and final round, Cheavon Clarke, and he
:32:01. > :32:04.has taken national titles in both England and Jamaica, the man who
:32:05. > :32:14.competed for Jamaica at the Commonwealth Games in 2014, his
:32:15. > :32:26.first contest with AIBA, Hamburg 2017. Finding it very difficult
:32:27. > :32:32.against Savon of Cuba. A punch they are from the man in red. Good
:32:33. > :32:42.generalship Savon is demonstrating here, keeping him on the margins of
:32:43. > :32:48.the contest. With his feet, like I said, it is because of the first
:32:49. > :32:51.contest of the tournament, but his feet are too slow and that is
:32:52. > :32:56.allowing Savon to just adjust his feet and maintain that gap. Look,
:32:57. > :33:03.all the time, the pace is sitting the Cuban. Boxing well behind his
:33:04. > :33:10.jab. -- the pace is suiting the Cuban. That is because Clarke's feet
:33:11. > :33:15.are a little too slow. This was a tough ask of him, Clarke, but he has
:33:16. > :33:20.to try to get close. Caught with the shot there. A standing count after
:33:21. > :33:23.being caught by Savon. SUE BARKER: Does not necessarily
:33:24. > :33:27.agree. Midpoint of the third and final round. He is demonstrating to
:33:28. > :33:38.the referee he is OK, but Savon, sensing he has got his man -- Clarke
:33:39. > :33:43.does not thoroughly agree. And it is a second count has been issued.
:33:44. > :33:47.Clarke is trying to fight his way out of a crisis but instead he is
:33:48. > :33:53.only catching more punches. Just walked onto a right hook. From
:33:54. > :33:56.Savon. He actually landed a good right hand over the top himself but
:33:57. > :34:01.it didn't really have the effect. Struggling a little bit and there is
:34:02. > :34:05.that right-hand again, and again. By coming forward, looking that
:34:06. > :34:10.right-hand over them, and Savon keeps responding with the right
:34:11. > :34:15.uppercut. Savon, incredible poise in the face of the fire he is facing
:34:16. > :34:20.from Clarke. He has put some eye-catching combinations together
:34:21. > :34:24.in this third and final round. It doesn't get much tougher, does an?
:34:25. > :34:33.In your first contest, up against one of the gold-medal favourites.
:34:34. > :34:40.The way the tournament has transpired. Clarke one win away from
:34:41. > :34:43.a medal. Head Bedene by straight shots repeatedly and the contest
:34:44. > :34:46.will be stopped, Cheavon Clarke will not make it through to the final
:34:47. > :34:56.bell. If he keeps getting picked off like that, safety is paramount, so
:34:57. > :34:58.Clarke is absolutely frustrated and disappointed, but he has been
:34:59. > :35:04.subjected to the standing counts in the third and final round from the
:35:05. > :35:11.accurate punch packing of Erislandy Savon, and his World Championships
:35:12. > :35:18.are over. Savon brings Clarke onto a couple of shots, one around the side
:35:19. > :35:21.of the head, then another. But to be fair to Clarke, comes forward,
:35:22. > :35:25.looking for that big right hand, but it was a good performance from Savon
:35:26. > :35:36.in this round. But Clarke will learn from it.
:35:37. > :35:42.Savon has been around for a long time and I think I gave him a good
:35:43. > :35:45.run, the second round was close, and in the third I thought I was doing a
:35:46. > :35:50.good job, so it is all valued experience. For my first year, I
:35:51. > :35:55.can't be too sad. Obviously I am disappointed, but I can't be too
:35:56. > :35:59.sad. Tough bout for Clarke. They don't come much harder for an
:36:00. > :36:09.opening bout than against the Cuban legend like Savon. How hard is to go
:36:10. > :36:12.into a fight like that with no minutes under your belt? No, when
:36:13. > :36:15.you come to a competition as big as this you want a nice early want to
:36:16. > :36:18.shake off the cobwebs and nerves, and against probably the best guy in
:36:19. > :36:21.amateur boxing at the minute, it is going to be hard for him. But he is
:36:22. > :36:24.upset and will be disappointed with himself, but don't forget, Savon,
:36:25. > :36:27.the Olympic Games with Anthony Joshua five years ago, he has been
:36:28. > :36:35.around the block and is experienced. You know, was he ever going to win?
:36:36. > :36:39.Possibly not, but those fight our way you learn, you know. Hopefully
:36:40. > :36:44.in three-years' time, you know, it is the young team, a real young team
:36:45. > :36:47.in Britain at the moment. About the years' time in Tokyo, and that
:36:48. > :36:51.experience today should hold him in real good stead. Fingers crossed
:36:52. > :36:56.that he learned from it. And might be able to nick a medal in Tokyo. He
:36:57. > :37:00.is convinced he can compete for medals at Tokyo 2020 and win. This
:37:01. > :37:05.is his first summer competing for Great Britain, and he already won at
:37:06. > :37:08.medal back in June. What do you think? European Championships are
:37:09. > :37:11.hard competitions to win. You don't win them unless you are something
:37:12. > :37:17.special or have something special about you. In that fight today, I
:37:18. > :37:20.think his feet were a little slow. He is a brave boy, got hurt a lot of
:37:21. > :37:25.times in that fight and he kept coming, kept swinging back, so that
:37:26. > :37:30.greatness will take a long way. If you can find that skill set, which I
:37:31. > :37:36.am sure he will, with the coaches we have in GB, he will get, you know,
:37:37. > :37:39.if he is going to get good those guys will make good. He has that

:37:44. > :37:47.Yet another Cuban threw to the business end of a major tournament.
:37:48. > :37:52.We are so used to seeing them winning medals. A good idea? Such
:37:53. > :37:56.amazing strength and depth. Yes, I have been to Cuba, trained at the

:38:13. > :38:15.Their grandad diplomat or Olympic champions, you know. They are
:38:16. > :38:18.tremendous fighters, but they wanted. They have the ability and
:38:19. > :38:33.the hunger. They are always the ones to beat. In the heavyweight final it
:38:34. > :38:38.would be the reigning world and Olympic champion Evgeny Tishchenko
:38:39. > :38:41.against Erislandy Savon. We join them in the third and final round.
:38:42. > :38:46.COMMENTATOR: Into the third and final round of the gold-medal

:38:50. > :38:54.rivalry between these two boxers, a rivalry currently tied at one win
:38:55. > :39:03.apiece. Hand landed by the reigning champion, but back comes Savon, the
:39:04. > :39:10.Cuban boxer in blue, with four shot attack. From Tishchenko's work now
:39:11. > :39:15.comedies coming forward. I watched his corner in that round and they
:39:16. > :39:19.were barking instructions at -- from Tishchenko's work now, coming
:39:20. > :39:25.forward. That may present more opportunities for Savon. No head
:39:26. > :39:33.movement from Tishchenko, remember, so the Russian will have to watch
:39:34. > :39:36.what he's doing. Savon has been wonderfully precise with his punch
:39:37. > :39:39.picking through the first two rounds, heading straight shots to
:39:40. > :39:45.Tishchenko has high held hands have not been able to repel them, like
:39:46. > :39:48.that straight right, and look at the footwork, to appear on the other

:39:57. > :40:01.hook followed by a right hand, approaching the midpoint of the
:40:02. > :40:04.third and final round, and the punch accuracy of Everest Landy Savon
:40:05. > :40:26.continues to be eye-catching. I think he probably
:40:27. > :40:36.surprised, he just can't find his rhythm but the accurate work is
:40:37. > :40:38.coming from the man in blue. -- probably surprised, expecting
:40:39. > :40:44.Tishchenko to come forward more. He just can't pull the trigger. He is
:40:45. > :40:49.attempting to build that forward momentum and he is being disrupted
:40:50. > :40:52.by pecking booking punches from Savon, the corner imploring their
:40:53. > :40:59.man to come forward and let his hands go. He has less than a minute
:41:00. > :41:01.to find shot, because surely he is being bit in hearing comprehensive
:41:02. > :41:09.fashion by the boxing produced by Erislandy Savon. You has to throw
:41:10. > :41:16.more jabs, getting into range to close. Savon picking him off. A
:41:17. > :41:22.great display from him, with his feet, in terms of the speed of
:41:23. > :41:29.movement. Again, Tishchenko is just struggling a little for me here.
:41:30. > :41:33.Continuously falling short. He can't find the range, can't pen the man
:41:34. > :41:37.down, Tishchenko, and Erislandy Savon is surely about to be crowned
:41:38. > :41:45.as the world champion gold medallist. High-5s over in the Cuban
:41:46. > :41:51.corner, and a huge embrace from the coaching staff in the direction of
:41:52. > :41:56.Erislandy Savon. You thought he was the victor. But here surely no
:41:57. > :41:59.mistake, against the man who is the champion from two years ago. Of
:42:00. > :42:12.course it will go to the judges. A split decision. In the blue corner,
:42:13. > :42:15.of Dubai, Erislandy Savon! At his fifth Championships, Erislandy Savon
:42:16. > :42:22.claims his first championship gold medal! The gold -- judges have it on
:42:23. > :42:26.a split decision but that is academic. The right man has won and
:42:27. > :42:33.he joins his uncle as heavyweight champion. Once again, the name...
:42:34. > :42:41.Will be inscribed into the record is a class -- the name Savon will be
:42:42. > :42:50.inscribed. The heavyweight finale, a category in which Team GB has some
:42:51. > :42:57.serious Olympic pedigree. COMMENTATOR: The gold medal is
:42:58. > :43:08.Audley's Harrison's... -- Audley Harrison's. Price has got the gold
:43:09. > :43:13.medal at Beijing 2008. Anthony Joshua is the Olympic
:43:14. > :43:22.superheavyweight champion! A wonderful achievement. Joe Joyce
:43:23. > :43:27.continuing to beat his outstanding record. So GB just seem to keep
:43:28. > :43:36.churning out these successful superheavyweights and to speak about
:43:37. > :43:38.that with us we are joined by David Haye, and the former heavyweight
:43:39. > :43:46.champion of the world now. David, what it is about Team GB that keeps
:43:47. > :43:50.producing these great men? I don't know. Something in the water back in
:43:51. > :43:56.the UK. We have had this unprecedented success. Audley
:43:57. > :43:59.Harrison at the Sydney Olympics, Anthony Joshua, 2012, getting the
:44:00. > :44:05.gold. We also had David Price who had good success, and all the big

:44:28. > :44:31.making his pro debut in October and I am expecting him to be really fast
:44:32. > :44:35.tracked through the heavyweight ranks. He does not want to waste
:44:36. > :44:40.time but wants to go straight in for ten rounders, doesn't want them six
:44:41. > :44:44.and four rounders. What's to challenge and test himself. Inspired
:44:45. > :44:48.by Anthony Joshua, Fury, all the big heavyweight stars, and he has really
:44:49. > :44:51.handled himself well. Looking at him in the gym, I believe he will be
:44:52. > :44:56.world heavyweight champion in a couple of years. Exciting to look
:44:57. > :45:04.forward to. Anthony, no GB representation in heavyweight in
:45:05. > :45:06.Hamburg at these World Championships because Frazer is injured, but he
:45:07. > :45:11.will be disappointed because he would have a chance at winning a
:45:12. > :45:15.medal? Yes, I think Frazer Clarke will be disappointed. One of the
:45:16. > :45:19.most experienced guys at the minute. He was in the squad back in 2010
:45:20. > :45:22.when I was there. Had a great ten, Joe Joyce, Anthony Joshua, probably
:45:23. > :45:26.the best in the world. If he was here, you would have got at least a
:45:27. > :45:29.silver medal. How hard would it be, and I don't want to drag up the
:45:30. > :45:35.negative part of your journey and your career, but something you know
:45:36. > :45:37.Oliver, dealing with injuries and coming back from them. How difficult
:45:38. > :45:41.will Frazer Clarke find it coming back from this hamstring injury?
:45:42. > :45:44.Yes, I have spoken to guys, had a lot of injuries myself, the worst
:45:45. > :45:51.part of being an athlete. But it is the worst and best of, got to come
:45:52. > :45:54.out stronger, positive. You really, you know, it builds character.
:45:55. > :45:58.Hopefully with his mindset, he will come back bigger, better and
:45:59. > :46:01.stronger, and in 2020, you know, you will be more experienced. He will
:46:02. > :46:06.have been in the programme for about ten years by then and will be one to
:46:07. > :46:12.watch in 100%. Anthony, David, thank you for your thoughts. A pleasure to
:46:13. > :46:15.have you with us. Let's get to that superheavyweight final, one of the
:46:16. > :46:24.most anticipated events at these championships. Should be a bruising
:46:25. > :46:29.encounter between and Azerbaijan. -- between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.
:46:30. > :46:34.COMMENTATOR: Into the third and final round of the gold-medal bout
:46:35. > :46:38.at Hamburg 2017, and in the third meeting between these two familiar
:46:39. > :46:41.rivals it is the man in blue, who has won their two previous
:46:42. > :46:44.encounters, who appears to have the upper hand in the contest so far. He
:46:45. > :46:51.has come forward and gone on to the front foot and here's what down the
:46:52. > :46:57.Southall wearing red, Mahammadrasul Majidov. In the second round there
:46:58. > :47:04.was violent clash of heads which opened up an injury above the left
:47:05. > :47:07.eye of Kunkabayev, and then on the resumption after the doctor
:47:08. > :47:14.inspected that injury which was in a very bad place, Majidov cranked up
:47:15. > :47:20.the pressure and Kunkabayev has not been able to go with them. Not a bad
:47:21. > :47:24.start to the round by Kunkabayev, and I think his corner told him to
:47:25. > :47:27.try to stay in the centre of the ring, but as I say that he gets
:47:28. > :47:31.pushed back to the ropes. He started this round really well, the first
:47:32. > :47:35.minute, he was holding the centre, moving around his opponent and not
:47:36. > :47:38.conceding the ground, but again it is hard to keep this man at bay,
:47:39. > :47:50.isn't it? He just keeps coming, Majidov. Majidov between his high
:47:51. > :47:54.held gloves, slowly walking in, looking to get into his own project
:47:55. > :48:01.rage when he can unload the heavy artillery, and once again, another
:48:02. > :48:06.injury or the same injury? Just trying to get a clear look from our
:48:07. > :48:11.vantage point ringside at the Hamburg Sporthalle, but this man's
:48:12. > :48:17.problems are mounting. Dealing with the adversity of a cut, faced with
:48:18. > :48:29.an opponent who has beaten him twice before. The doctor is happy for the
:48:30. > :48:38.contest to continue. And the action resumes. Trying to stand his ground
:48:39. > :48:44.and poke out the southpaw 1-2, and this is Kunkabayev, but he simply
:48:45. > :48:51.cannot keep the man away. Looking to his corner. Looking for instruction
:48:52. > :48:54.and inspiration from his corner. His punches are becoming really
:48:55. > :48:58.ponderous now, Kunkabayev, slowing down and looping in the manner in
:48:59. > :49:03.which they are delivered and not coming back to the right position.
:49:04. > :49:07.He could be open to account. Very tired now, Kunkabayev. But
:49:08. > :49:10.tactically he is doing well in this round by again holding the centre of
:49:11. > :49:14.the ring, don't let Majidov push them back to the ropes. If he pushes
:49:15. > :49:22.back to the ropes, then Majidov wildernesses better work. -- Majidov
:49:23. > :49:29.would do his better work. The strength, waiting for the shot to
:49:30. > :49:33.come from Majidov. Majidov quickening up his feet, backing him
:49:34. > :49:38.into a corner, and recognising the danger is Kunkabayev intelligibly
:49:39. > :49:41.get himself out of that can find position and latches onto Majidov,
:49:42. > :49:45.but Majidov quickening up the feet, applying increased pressure trying
:49:46. > :49:50.to get his man. Looking for another inside the distance victory. It
:49:51. > :49:55.looks as though Kunkabayev will make it through to the final belt, for
:49:56. > :49:59.the third time -- the first time in this, the third encounter against
:50:00. > :50:06.Majidov, but surely there can be little doubt that the match was all
:50:07. > :50:10.-- that Majidov is about the ground as world champion for the third
:50:11. > :50:14.time. I think Kunkabayev did well to get through that Brown, really well
:50:15. > :50:20.tactically. Holding the centre of the ring, and Majidov is as strong
:50:21. > :50:29.as an ox, keeps coming forward. In the blue corner! Mahammadrasul
:50:30. > :50:34.Majidov is absolutely ecstatic, it being declared the winner, 84-1
:50:35. > :50:46.split decision winner. It was a dominant display, make no doubt
:50:47. > :50:52.about it. -- a 4-1 split decision. He has won three titles in the
:50:53. > :50:55.boxing. Time to reflect an estimate on the tournament with Rob
:50:56. > :50:58.McCracken. After that record-breaking medal haul at the
:50:59. > :51:06.European champion ships, just the one here at the Worlds, how please
:51:07. > :51:09.argue with that? -- championships. We are disappointed. But Pat
:51:10. > :51:13.McCormack boxed fantastically well and deserved a medal. On the wrong
:51:14. > :51:15.end of the decision, but he performed tremendously well. Some
:51:16. > :51:23.good showings from the boxers out here. For the young team, early in
:51:24. > :51:30.the side, year after Rio, but other than Pat and one other boxer, it is
:51:31. > :51:35.a new team. You mentioned Pat McCormack, but also French had a
:51:36. > :51:39.decision that could have gone the other way, on the end of a bad
:51:40. > :51:45.decision, have you been frustrated with the judges' scoring in this
:51:46. > :51:55.competition? No, overall it has been fine, but obviously we thought Calum
:51:56. > :51:58.had done enough and we thought that Pat had done more than enough to
:51:59. > :52:01.collect a medal at the World Championships. A little bit early
:52:02. > :52:06.for some, they will have learned a lot, and we will push on, in two
:52:07. > :52:08.yours' ten when we go to Russia for the World Championships, will have a
:52:09. > :52:18.more experienced team and will certainly be ready -- in two years'
:52:19. > :52:22.time. What about Peter? Yes, Pete has been fantastic and boxed well, I
:52:23. > :52:27.beg for the future and certainly for the championships in two years and
:52:28. > :52:32.after that in Tokyo. -- he is a big one for the future. To get four into
:52:33. > :52:37.the quarterfinals has been tremendous and, you know, some
:52:38. > :52:41.really good performances. Other than that, did well at you and it bodes
:52:42. > :52:46.well for the future. How confident are you that they can pick up medals
:52:47. > :52:49.at the 2020 Olympics? It is all was very difficult. The whole world is
:52:50. > :52:53.good at boxing, everybody is good at it, but we know what we are doing,
:52:54. > :52:58.we will develop the boxers, taken to the right prepare them and take the
:52:59. > :53:00.training camps with the right federations all over the world,
:53:01. > :53:04.develop them, get them to the highest of levels before we get them
:53:05. > :53:10.to the Olympics in Tokyo. Qualify as many as we can and win as many
:53:11. > :53:14.medals as they can, that is the aim always from us but we have some real
:53:15. > :53:18.potential in the squad. It's early, but lots of potential. And there is
:53:19. > :53:22.plenty more sport to look forward to across the BBC this week. A couple
:53:23. > :53:29.of live World Cup qualifiers for you, commentary on BBC five live and
:53:30. > :53:34.the website. England and Slovakia tomorrow and Moldova against Wales
:53:35. > :53:37.on Tuesday. That is before the Premier League show resumes on
:53:38. > :53:40.Thursday at ten o'clock on BBC Two. If you fancy having a go at boxing
:53:41. > :53:45.or any of the sport you have been watching recently, you can visit the
:53:46. > :53:49.Get Inspired website to find out about activities near you. The
:53:50. > :53:53.Sporthalle is beginning to entertain now as we come to the end of the
:53:54. > :53:58.competition. Discussing Team GB's performance, just the one medal for
:53:59. > :54:03.the British team, but what a summer Peter McGrail is having. He has done
:54:04. > :54:06.fantastically well, to be honest. European champion and adding a
:54:07. > :54:09.bronze medal to his collection. He did well but he will be disappointed
:54:10. > :54:12.because it was probably unwinnable fight for him but take nothing away.
:54:13. > :54:16.He has had a great World Championships and a great year. And
:54:17. > :54:18.then, we have to speak about contentious decisions within these
:54:19. > :54:23.championships. The British guys have had a couple go against them, Calum
:54:24. > :54:30.French and in particular Pat McCormack who essentially could have
:54:31. > :54:33.gone home as a world medallist. Indeed, but that is amateur boxing
:54:34. > :54:35.for you. You get it at every stage. Little kids, 12 years old, you get
:54:36. > :54:38.it in World Championships, Olympic Games. What we have to remember from
:54:39. > :54:42.this tournament, we're three years away from the next Olympic Games.
:54:43. > :54:46.The whole squad has been decimated, loads of guys turning pro, and we
:54:47. > :54:49.have got a medal. It is not too bad. Three years before the Olympic Games
:54:50. > :54:53.I got the bronze medal in, I was working in a bar, nowhere near the
:54:54. > :55:03.Olympic scene or international boxing team. Anthony Joshua was not
:55:04. > :55:05.in the squad, these guys, we work hard, listened to the coaches and
:55:06. > :55:08.ended up getting medals at Olympic Games. These guys coming today for
:55:09. > :55:10.the Turner, they are doing well. We have got medals, they are going to
:55:11. > :55:13.put themselves right in position to get a gold medal in Tokyo. So well
:55:14. > :55:16.done to them. They have all done really well. We mentioned Peter
:55:17. > :55:21.McGrail, Richie. You have been commentating on the fight. Who else
:55:22. > :55:27.impressed for you from GB? I think Ben Whittaker has had a really good
:55:28. > :55:31.championship to be honest. Before in the European Championship, he fought
:55:32. > :55:35.the Ukrainian lad, and he beat him convincingly, but here it was a 4-1
:55:36. > :55:40.split so he learned from the performance last time and improved.
:55:41. > :55:43.If he meets him in the years' time in Tokyo, I think you will have
:55:44. > :55:46.matured a little more. So I thought Ben Whittaker did really well for
:55:47. > :55:52.the team. I also thought that Clarke was really unlucky. An opponent in
:55:53. > :55:55.the first round who pulled out so he had a walkover and it didn't do him
:55:56. > :55:59.any favours at all, then up against one of the best in the world in
:56:00. > :56:04.Savon, so that was a tough one, it really was, but he gave it his all,
:56:05. > :56:06.and throughout I thought Pat McCormack boxed absolutely superb.
:56:07. > :56:10.He really put in a performance I thought of his career. I thought he
:56:11. > :56:13.was... He should have won the contest, but there you go. And I
:56:14. > :56:17.thought Calum French as well was desperately unlucky not to be a
:56:18. > :56:21.winner. A lot of positives from the team. A lot of positives, Anthony,
:56:22. > :56:26.but will people be disappointed that the British team have only got the
:56:27. > :56:31.one medal? Does still count as a success for GB boxing? I think
:56:32. > :56:34.beyond the surface level it is a success, because of what I said a
:56:35. > :56:39.minute ago. James DeGale, when he won his gold medal in Beijing, he
:56:40. > :56:43.lost to his opponent four, five claims the year or two four, had
:56:44. > :56:46.never beaten four, drew with him in the Olympic Games then beat him and
:56:47. > :56:49.won his gold medal, so that is improvement and that is what Ben
:56:50. > :56:52.Whittaker has to do, what the others have to do, they have to improve
:56:53. > :56:57.from their losses. Hopefully the guys improve go on to Tokyo and do
:56:58. > :57:00.really well. Some amazing competitors here, Richie, with the
:57:01. > :57:04.Cubans doing exceptionally well as we have become used to seeing, and
:57:05. > :57:08.Americans having a real resurgence. Who has impressed you on the world
:57:09. > :57:12.stage? On the world stage America in general has impressed me because
:57:13. > :57:16.they have had caught in an old friend of mine from Ireland, doing a
:57:17. > :57:19.really good job, so they are coming back into it. Uzbekistan and
:57:20. > :57:24.Kazakhstan will always be strong, along with the Russians. I do like
:57:25. > :57:28.the Russians, and also Colombia, Little Martinez who took the bronze,
:57:29. > :57:31.it was a repeat of the Olympic final against his opponent from his back
:57:32. > :57:35.is them, but Martinez is a terrific fighter from Colombia, so the
:57:36. > :57:40.world's best is here and we are up there with them. Not far away at it.
:57:41. > :57:45.Anthony, finally, such a stage for the British boxers to really, and a
:57:46. > :57:48.presence within world boxing. Who do you think will now go on and develop
:57:49. > :57:55.their potential and become a world beater? You have to look at Peter
:57:56. > :57:59.McGrail, like you said, but European champion, medallist, terrific from a
:58:00. > :58:02.young inexperienced kid, and also I like McCormack, a terrific fighter.
:58:03. > :58:06.I have said that. A very good fighter. If he can learn a bit of
:58:07. > :58:16.composure he will go all the way, I don't doubt that for a second. Thank
:58:17. > :58:20.you for your time, guys. Richie Woodhall and Anthony Ogogo. Let's
:58:21. > :58:29.look at the table now. Cuba running away with the title. An impressive
:58:30. > :58:33.bronze for Peter McGrail. For GB in Hamburg it has very much been a case
:58:34. > :58:37.of work in progress, but for the Cubans, as you might expect, they
:58:38. > :58:41.were simply sublime. Thanks for joining us. From all of here,
