:00:20. > :00:30.Here comes Kelly Holmes. The crowd are on their feet. What a start.

:00:30. > :00:42.

:00:42. > :00:52.Great Britain get the gold medals. Kelly homes for Great Britain.

:00:52. > :01:07.

:01:07. > :01:12.a performance. Absolutely brilliant. Welcome to a special British

:01:12. > :01:20.Olympic Dreams. We are in Innsbruck, Austria for the very first Winter

:01:20. > :01:25.Youth Olympics Games. More than 1,000 teenagers from all over the

:01:25. > :01:35.world are here for ten days, of adren fin fuelled action packed

:01:35. > :01:43.

:01:43. > :01:47.competition. -- adrenaline. And Team GB are raring to go. As well

:01:47. > :01:51.as watching the 24 members of Team GB showing off their skills, we

:01:51. > :01:56.have been getting to know them off- piste. Everything from what drives

:01:56. > :02:02.them, to their quirks. We have it all. Sibling rivalry, snowball

:02:02. > :02:07.fights, and of course a little bit of making dreams come true.

:02:07. > :02:10.Hurtling down an's track at speeds of up po 90mph in a metal container

:02:10. > :02:14.requires aggression, and the ability to remain calm under

:02:14. > :02:24.pressure. The six members of the British bobsleigh teem team have

:02:24. > :02:25.

:02:25. > :02:35.had a total of 12 weeks to try to master those extremes. I am James

:02:35. > :02:36.

:02:36. > :02:45.Lelliot. I am the brake man. team nick name would be Stump. And

:02:45. > :02:52.stick because I am skinny. I am Jazmin Sawyers, I am the brake man

:02:52. > :02:59.in the bobsleigh. I am Neil and I am the bobsleigh pile. We are team

:02:59. > :03:06.zebra. Well. I oem black and jazz is white, so it, is yeah. My name

:03:06. > :03:16.is Kirsten Emery. I am the driver. It would probably have to be dumb

:03:16. > :03:18.

:03:18. > :03:24.and dumber. Which one is dumb and which one is dumber? I'm dumb.

:03:24. > :03:28.like to get up late. They like to spend all day in bed. We refer to

:03:28. > :03:33.him as our second dad, because he is always taking care of us. They

:03:33. > :03:38.are lazy. He lays the rules down. You follow the rules. That is how

:03:38. > :03:45.it goes, with Lee, but he is great fun. I hope I am not generalising,

:03:45. > :03:53.yeah, I am. The six guys that are here, they are very hard-working.

:03:53. > :03:57.You do allow them to muck about and joke round as well. Erm, yes.

:03:57. > :04:04.the males of the group we will smash the females in this snowball

:04:04. > :04:09.fight. I am not a big fan of snowball fights. We are not the

:04:09. > :04:19.tallest. With the amount of snow we can probably hide in it. Throw from

:04:19. > :04:21.

:04:21. > :04:31.the ground. Should be all right. my God! That was such a big hit.

:04:31. > :04:37.

:04:37. > :04:41.Such a big hit. I think once I walk down the stairs from the changing

:04:41. > :04:46.rooms, everything's kind of different. It is hard because you

:04:46. > :04:50.have to get the balance right from the start being pumped up and ready

:04:50. > :04:55.to go and in the sled being relaxed. You can still be enjoying yourself

:04:55. > :05:04.when the warm up is going on, as soon as you get on the track, you

:05:04. > :05:09.have to be concentrated. Me and Mica will be focused. We warm up

:05:09. > :05:18.together. We have to have our call in sync. We practise theical a lot

:05:18. > :05:23.so it is not training, it is mental rehearsal. You look at the rest of

:05:23. > :05:27.the sports in the Youth Olympic Games. They have been able to do it

:05:27. > :05:31.from a young age. You are not allowed to get into a sled for 16.

:05:31. > :05:36.They have been on the ice for 12 weeks prior to this. Most people in

:05:37. > :05:40.the world of bobsleighing don't win until they are 34, 35. We now have

:05:40. > :05:50.five driver, who hopefully will be the future of Great Britain

:05:50. > :06:12.

:06:12. > :06:16.Unbelievable. There are no words. It is the best feeling I have

:06:16. > :06:21.experienced. We thought we got a bronze, then the last leg and it

:06:21. > :06:26.turns out we come second. Silver Medal. It was ten seconds when it

:06:26. > :06:31.flashed up. I don't know what to say. The second team girls came

:06:31. > :06:41.second. A very strong men's race. I think that puts me the lead nation

:06:41. > :06:42.

:06:42. > :06:47.When Jack came up with the idea of the Youth Olympics he wanted the

:06:47. > :06:51.games to be more about winning medals. Is rare to see the

:06:51. > :06:58.President of the IOC in an informle mood but the mountain air seems to

:06:58. > :07:02.have done the trick. Let's start off with the Youth Olympic Games.

:07:03. > :07:10.They are your baby, why was it so important for you to launch them?

:07:10. > :07:14.believe it is a golden opportunity to give really a good culture, and

:07:14. > :07:19.develop an education to young kids. There is a trend to have inactivity

:07:19. > :07:23.and obesity in the youth. We have to combat that. The legacy of the

:07:23. > :07:27.games, is for all the athletes, sport is about more than

:07:27. > :07:33.performance it is about more than winning, it is about forming

:07:33. > :07:37.yourself, it is about education and development. We are here at the ski

:07:37. > :07:42.jump venue, and it's a big moment, because in in competition for the

:07:42. > :07:50.first time women can come meet the ski jumping at an IOC event. Do you

:07:50. > :07:53.think women can be equal in sport? Yes, you can be equal in sport,

:07:53. > :07:58.taking in consideration the difference in fisology between men

:07:58. > :08:06.and women. That will not change. But there are many sports where

:08:06. > :08:11.women equal or are better than men. Think equestrians you have women

:08:11. > :08:16.being World Champion. Here the gap between the men and women is a wide

:08:16. > :08:19.one, but it will narrow very much. I know it is hard to play favourite,

:08:19. > :08:24.do you have Olympians you keep a particular eye on, that are closer

:08:24. > :08:29.to your heart when you are at the games? For Londonly have a a close

:08:29. > :08:37.look at Ben Ainslie, she on the verge, of, you know, equaling the

:08:37. > :08:42.record of and winning four consecutive goal golds. There are

:08:42. > :08:47.not many athletes who can win more than one medal. Is there one stand

:08:47. > :08:52.out Olympic moment you will never forget? My first Olympic game, you

:08:52. > :08:57.know, I come from a sport where there are no spectators. In sailing

:08:57. > :09:01.you have hardly any media people coming to interview. There I was,

:09:01. > :09:06.marching with the Belgian team to enter the Olympic staed yum in

:09:06. > :09:10.Mexico, I came out of the dark tunnel, and in the glorious

:09:10. > :09:15.sunshine, with 80,000 excited Mexicans shouting and chanting.

:09:15. > :09:20.This is something I will never forget. What about more recent --

:09:20. > :09:27.recently, is there manager as President you will think, I never

:09:27. > :09:31.forget that moment. Usain Bolt. And Michael Phelps. These were magic

:09:32. > :09:36.moments for the games. You are the most powerful man in world sport,

:09:36. > :09:42.do you enjoy that job? No, I am a humble modest man. I am trying to

:09:42. > :09:47.do my best. I love what I do. It is a great privilege to be preside

:09:47. > :09:52.over the IOC. It gives you the opportunity to implement in sport

:09:52. > :09:57.your dreams and desire, but I don't feel powerful. I have an influence

:09:57. > :10:04.but no power. London 2012 will be your last games, what do you want

:10:04. > :10:09.the legacy to be in I am not a legacy man. You know, people speak

:10:10. > :10:13.about legacy when you are dead. I am not in a hurry! One of Jacques

:10:13. > :10:18.Rogge's ideas for the games is to get athletes from different nations

:10:18. > :10:27.to team up. So, after finishing their individual short track

:10:27. > :10:37.programme, speed skaters Jack Burrows and Aydin Djemal found them

:10:37. > :10:38.

:10:38. > :10:43.taking part in a mixed relay -- nation relay race. Guy, show me

:10:43. > :10:48.your medals. Congratulations. The big gold for Jack. And a sparkly

:10:48. > :10:55.silver for aideen. How does it feel to win your very first Olympic

:10:55. > :10:59.medals? It is, I feel amazing rg right now. It is the first winter

:10:59. > :11:04.youth Olympics and we have a gold and silver. Can't get much better.

:11:04. > :11:11.And the first medals for Team GB. am shocked. I didn't think I would

:11:11. > :11:14.get a medal, but I have and I am just ecstatic. I can't believe it.

:11:14. > :11:19.This mixed country competition is unique to these games. How much

:11:19. > :11:26.time did you have with your teams to train to, get to know them?

:11:26. > :11:32.had 50 minutes to learn how each other skate and how time ing was.

:11:32. > :11:38.There had to be some language barriers. I had to bring my laptop

:11:38. > :11:42.down and Google translate. Did that work? It worked really well. We had

:11:42. > :11:46.full on conversations. Of course it worked, you won medals. I bet you

:11:46. > :11:51.can't wait to go home and sho them. It is go home, show the rest of the

:11:51. > :12:00.team this is how it's done and it is a great motivation. I will keep

:12:00. > :12:08.looking at the medal and keep going. Jack and aideen's metals may have

:12:08. > :12:14.come as a surprise but we expected one at the curling hall. Angharad

:12:14. > :12:19.is the first non-scopt Scot to represent Britain in the sport. The

:12:19. > :12:26.four some had a strong finish, but shaky early results meant they

:12:26. > :12:31.didn't make it out of the group stage. On the snow, Britain's

:12:31. > :12:36.number one junior Rachelle Rogers and Paul Henderson represented

:12:36. > :12:41.Britain on the slopes, competing in all four events. I am here to enjoy

:12:41. > :12:48.myself and compete and learn from other athletes. A real good

:12:48. > :12:53.experience. And Lewis courtier Jones took part in the halfpipe and

:12:53. > :12:58.snow slope event, reaching the final. British ice dancers have

:12:58. > :13:02.been under extra scrutiny since that Olympic gold medal was won by

:13:02. > :13:07.Torville and Dean. Milly Patterson and Edward car stairs are the

:13:07. > :13:17.latest duo to soak up the attention with help from Olympic champion Una

:13:17. > :13:23.

:13:23. > :13:28.Kim. I am Edward Carstairs. I am Milly patter on the Everyone calls

:13:28. > :13:33.me woody. Intelligent. Loud. He had a knack of being right. We both

:13:33. > :13:43.like to think we are the boss, but really I am the boss. I am glad I

:13:43. > :13:45.

:13:45. > :13:50.have him instead of someone else. I am nervous about meeting Una. I

:13:50. > :13:59.have never met an Olympic champion. It will be a great champion so

:13:59. > :14:05.opportunity so we can see how she dealt with things at the Olympics.

:14:05. > :14:09.How did you deal with becoming an Olympic champion? I was very happy

:14:09. > :14:15.I finished my free programme. It is hard to believe it. Still, when I

:14:15. > :14:20.think of it, it still, it is like a dream. I thought she would be more

:14:20. > :14:26.of a diva. She was reserved. She was just really nice to talk to,

:14:26. > :14:33.and casual. Have you got any tips for me, like I want to be like an

:14:33. > :14:43.Olympic medallist as well. Try not to think of Olympics. Just, just

:14:43. > :14:43.

:14:43. > :14:49.skate. I found it nerve-wracking but she was nice. I didn't really

:14:49. > :14:56.foe what to ask her, but it was all right. You were saying when you do

:14:56. > :15:03.the Usain Bolt pose on the rink it bugs Milly. I find it annoying.

:15:03. > :15:07.turns round like she doesn't know me. Why not incorporate it into an

:15:07. > :15:14.ice dance. We might get marks deducted. We have finished our

:15:14. > :15:16.short dance and we got 30 points which is our personal best. It is

:15:16. > :15:26.good to achieve out here in international competition. Having

:15:26. > :15:36.

:15:36. > :15:44.the top skaters round helps us to APPLAUSE

:15:45. > :15:49.We got 71. Which is really good. I'm pleased with that.

:15:49. > :15:54.You didn't seem phased by the music cutting off? Yeah. Yeah. It was

:15:54. > :15:59.just that these things happen at competitions. You just have to

:15:59. > :16:04.carry on with it. You train without the music on, so, you know how it

:16:04. > :16:12.is. It puts you off a little bit, but you have to try to put it out

:16:12. > :16:17.of your mind. Thanks! The GB curling team here in

:16:17. > :16:25.Innsbruk has attracted a lot of attention. Not just because of

:16:25. > :16:34.Britain's success in the sport, but because one of the team has the

:16:34. > :16:38.surname Muirhead. And this is Tomorrow. -- Tom.

:16:38. > :16:44.Tom, you have very successful curlers in your family. Was it nice

:16:44. > :16:48.to have the spotlight on you for a change? Yeah, it was good to get

:16:49. > :16:52.the light for once. I've been watching them on TV since I was

:16:52. > :16:58.young. So it's been good to steal the spotlight and take over for a

:16:59. > :17:05.week or two. Eve are you very proud of your

:17:05. > :17:10.brother? Yes, very proud. It is a great honour to represent Great

:17:10. > :17:13.Britain. Especially as the youth Games are so important. For these

:17:13. > :17:16.to gain the experience, to hopefully go one day to the

:17:16. > :17:21.Olympics. You want to drive the stones

:17:21. > :17:26.forward, then your foot. What is it like having two World

:17:26. > :17:32.Championships, a silver medallist, a father and sister, a brother who

:17:32. > :17:35.curls as well? It is good. I have a lot to live up to. They give me

:17:35. > :17:44.tips. You never take our tips, though.

:17:44. > :17:47.Well, I listen to you. Does he ever ask for tips? He thinks he is good

:17:47. > :17:53.enough without it. Sometimes I take it when I think

:17:53. > :17:56.that I need their opinion. I see what you mean about having no

:17:56. > :18:01.weight on the stone. You must have the strongest thighs in the world.

:18:01. > :18:06.Which one of you will win the Olympics first, any colour? I think

:18:06. > :18:12.it is both our goals to go the Olympics, to win a medal.

:18:12. > :18:19.One of you has to win first? does have the upper hand, but if I

:18:19. > :18:28.can see the next four years out and hopefully challenge her for a medal.

:18:28. > :18:34.How much does this weigh? 20 kilos. Oh, yeah, 20 kilos! What do you do

:18:34. > :18:38.on downtime? Thomas likes to go to the farm. He likes the animals. To

:18:39. > :18:46.play with the sheep. I have a flock of my own sheep. In

:18:46. > :18:53.my spare time I like to spend time doing well at shows and what not.

:18:53. > :18:58.Farmer Joe here! Drive! Let go. Perfect.

:18:58. > :19:02.This is going to be quite good. Do you know you are going to get it

:19:02. > :19:07.closer than his one. That was brilliant, but how do you

:19:07. > :19:12.think that I did? To be honest, you are probably one of the best

:19:12. > :19:18.players to gone on the ice and not throw until you throw the stone.

:19:18. > :19:28.Are you kidding me? No. Perfectly honest.

:19:28. > :19:29.

:19:29. > :19:33.There was a further family affair up at Seafelled. Scot Dixon son of

:19:33. > :19:38.six-time Olympian Mike, were on the ski slopes.

:19:38. > :19:46.The snow is quick, I am fairly happy with the performance.

:19:46. > :19:51.Dad Mike was on hand during the biathalon.

:19:51. > :19:56.A lot of the guys were fast. I was happy with that.

:19:56. > :20:02.Lewis Hook took part in the boy's ice hockey skills challenge. We

:20:02. > :20:12.will hear more from his team-mate Katherine Gale later nonthe show. A

:20:12. > :20:15.

:20:15. > :20:18.new event for the Sochi event is the half pipe. We have two Team GB

:20:18. > :20:28.members here, but can they cope when things on the mountain get

:20:28. > :20:37.

:20:37. > :20:44.that little more extreme? Tell us about your relationship with tiler?

:20:44. > :20:49.Yeah, well, tile ser like my best friend and brother. I have known

:20:49. > :20:52.him for a while now. She is like my sister. I have known

:20:52. > :20:58.her eight years. So nearly ten years.

:20:58. > :21:02.You have properly grown up together? Yeah, everywhere there is

:21:02. > :21:09.a camp and a competition, I am there and she is there. We are

:21:10. > :21:14.always together. That training was good. To go

:21:14. > :21:19.through it with tiler as well, I will take away things I have

:21:19. > :21:29.learned during the session. Yeah, I got buried. I was in the fall being

:21:29. > :21:29.

:21:29. > :21:35.prodded out with a stick! I've always done half pipe but never

:21:35. > :21:39.like as often. When I'm away atrain slope style. I have always been

:21:39. > :21:42.more confident, so it's been good learning how to do this. I was

:21:42. > :21:47.focused on going to the Olympics in the half pipe. When it was

:21:47. > :21:53.announced it was here, that was my goal as well. I definitely want to

:21:53. > :21:57.go to Sochi to do the slope style, maybe even the half pipe. Most the

:21:57. > :22:01.time I am hyper and the life of the party.

:22:01. > :22:08.Does it make you more of a risk- taker when doing the tricks? Does

:22:08. > :22:11.it help you? It is stereo typical of freestylers. We are always happy.

:22:11. > :22:15.It is always good as when you get to the competition, you are ready

:22:15. > :22:20.for it. Tell bus your time here at the

:22:20. > :22:25.Winter Youth Olympic Games? You got into the final? I was really happy.

:22:25. > :22:30.I was top five. I can't be complaining. In the final everybody

:22:30. > :22:35.steps up, doing it to a superhigh standards. I fell on a run.

:22:35. > :22:40.I finished tenth so a bit gutted but I'm ready to come back.

:22:40. > :22:45.Hopefully to train for Sochi 2014. It was nice to be out here

:22:45. > :22:49.competing with everyone in my age category. To see a lot of people, I

:22:49. > :22:56.knew a lot of people, so to see them again. It was a great

:22:56. > :23:01.competition to be a part of. Now your first Olympic Games are

:23:01. > :23:06.nerve-wracking enough, but coming here without the team-mates make it

:23:06. > :23:12.is tougher. Ice hockey player, Katherine Gale had to go it alone.

:23:12. > :23:17.She was seeded first coming into the Games, but finished fifth. To

:23:17. > :23:24.give her the edge the next time we hooked her up with two of the

:23:24. > :23:34.sport's superstars. Hi, Jennifer.

:23:34. > :23:36.

:23:36. > :23:40.Really good to meat you. Hi, I'm Angela.

:23:40. > :23:46.We played at Harvard together. So we are very good friends. The year

:23:46. > :23:54.before we played against each other in the' 98 Olympics.

:23:54. > :24:01.Are you friends on the ice? No, not as much! Off the ice, yes. We were

:24:01. > :24:07.young in the' 98 Olympics. You were 17, 18? Yes.

:24:07. > :24:13.So, did you like it on the ice? It was amazing. Being in front of that

:24:13. > :24:18.many people as well. It was amazing. Did you get nervous? I was really

:24:18. > :24:22.nervous. Then when I got out there it was all good. Just enjoy it. It

:24:22. > :24:25.is natural in that environment. You just have to learn to use that

:24:25. > :24:29.energy. Every Olympian is probably nervous,

:24:29. > :24:36.but what you have to realise is that like you did, you settle in,

:24:36. > :24:45.you practise for lounge to be out there and trust yourself once you

:24:45. > :24:51.get on the ice. Eyes up! Eyes up! Come on, give me

:24:51. > :24:55.a celebration! Just being on the ice with two amazing Olympic

:24:55. > :25:02.champions it was an absolutely once in a lifetime experience. I can't

:25:02. > :25:06.believe I've just been on there. They gave me so much advice. So

:25:06. > :25:11.helpful. They were so supportive, amazing. What is your biggest

:25:11. > :25:15.challenge in life? There have been disappointments for all of us.

:25:16. > :25:21.Before I made the team, I was basically told I had no chance.
