:00:00. > :00:11.damage to this lead. Flora Duffy still pushing hard. We are

:00:12. > :00:13.approaching a one-hour mark. Much expected of the English triathletes

:00:14. > :00:15.with Vicky Holland, Lucy Hall and the best of them on paper, Jodie

:00:16. > :00:23.Stimpson. She is a favourite for many people, but some from

:00:24. > :00:25.Australia, New Zealand, Northern Ireland and Canada opposition in

:00:26. > :00:31.this group, she will be taking nothing for granted. Plenty of work

:00:32. > :00:41.for Jodie Stimpson to do if she is to win the first gold medal of The

:00:42. > :00:46.Games. She did so well in the early part of the season, as you said

:00:47. > :00:51.earlier, winning in Cape town and Auckland, so we know what she is

:00:52. > :00:54.capable of. Once she gets the bit between her teeth, it is hard to bet

:00:55. > :00:59.against her. But the likes of Kirsten Sweetland and Emma Jackson

:01:00. > :01:12.will give her a good run for her money.

:01:13. > :01:20.There was no Commonwealth Games triathlon in India because they'll

:01:21. > :01:27.act of safe open water swimming. Emma Jackson is the front. --

:01:28. > :01:37.because of a lack of safe open war persuading. -- open water swimming.

:01:38. > :01:40.If she wants to have a serious chance of a medal here today, she

:01:41. > :01:40.will have to move to the front and take

:01:41. > :01:49.chance of a medal here today, she will have to it on on the climb. So

:01:50. > :01:52.often we are commentating on Emma Jackson, and she is at the back of

:01:53. > :01:59.the pack, so it is surprise into see her at the front! I was speaking to

:02:00. > :02:01.a very good New Zealand athlete, and he said this course is made for her,

:02:02. > :02:16.she is so strong on the hills. Now, it looks like Duffy again from

:02:17. > :02:21.Bermuda, working really hard, which is good to see. Pushing the pace

:02:22. > :02:27.early on. There is Holland at the back, acid, who put in so much work

:02:28. > :02:39.early on, I think she has decided to back off. If she is not going to

:02:40. > :02:49.make a break and go for it, she has got to save her legs, Hall.

:02:50. > :02:55.Adjacent to the motorway now, on the noisy side of the Strathclyde

:02:56. > :03:01.Country Park, and then the climb will follow. For the England team,

:03:02. > :03:07.there will be pressure on them to day. As yet, they have not won a

:03:08. > :03:17.medal in the triathlon in the Commonwealth Games. Sixth place

:03:18. > :03:24.finish in 2006, Liz Blatchford, that has been England's best so far. My

:03:25. > :03:27.money is on someone beating that today. The next Commonwealth Games

:03:28. > :03:31.will be on the Gold Coast, and they have got a tough act to follow with

:03:32. > :03:38.weather conditions like this in Glasgow today. Absolutely fantastic,

:03:39. > :03:42.what a start to the Games. It is absolutely fantastic, when you think

:03:43. > :03:46.of the effort and time which goes into it, if it had been a rainy day

:03:47. > :03:50.today, it would have been a different story. And you're right,

:03:51. > :03:54.the Gold Coast will have a hard act to follow. I would say the

:03:55. > :04:01.organisers here have put on a phenomenal race. Holland from

:04:02. > :04:08.England, at the front. Of course she is always fit, but just coming into

:04:09. > :04:13.this race, looking very sharp. For the Home Nations, for most of the

:04:14. > :04:22.Commonwealth triathletes, this is the focus of the season. 20 of them

:04:23. > :04:25.have been willing to perhaps not give the World Triathlon Series

:04:26. > :04:29.their full attention. I think Alistair and Jonny Brownlee would be

:04:30. > :04:33.the first to admit that the Commonwealth Games is way more

:04:34. > :04:34.important than winning the World Triathlon Series title, which they

:04:35. > :04:41.have both done in the past Triathlon Series title, which they

:04:42. > :04:46.of course is the Olympic gold medallist. And his brother is the

:04:47. > :04:47.bronze medallist. So I guess the next thing would be the Commonwealth

:04:48. > :05:07.Games. We are really not seeing a lot of

:05:08. > :05:11.action in this front pack. I am on the edge of my seat, hoping we are

:05:12. > :05:17.going to see something happen. An attack would certainly make the race

:05:18. > :05:24.more interesting. And with two laps to go, you have got a bit of time on

:05:25. > :05:27.your side before transition, so you have to think about making that

:05:28. > :05:31.break very soon. MATT CHILTON: Climbing now, and Emma

:05:32. > :05:49.Jackson is in the middle of the pack. Sweetland, from Victoria,

:05:50. > :05:59.another previous host city of the Commonwealth Games.

:06:00. > :06:12.The hamburg event, won by Gwen Jorgensen, with Emma Jackson in

:06:13. > :06:15.second. Jodie Stimpson was fifth on that day. She is in this race. But

:06:16. > :06:24.that was the shorter distance, so we will not judge too much from that.

:06:25. > :06:32.On the red button now, the first qualifying heats are taking place at

:06:33. > :06:36.the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, and shortly, we expect to see Sir

:06:37. > :06:41.Bradley Wiggins, who will be taking part in his one event of the games,

:06:42. > :06:47.the team pursuit, and if you want to watch that, press the red button

:06:48. > :06:51.now. . ANNIE EMMERSON: It will be

:06:52. > :06:59.interesting to see what he has got on the track, having not taken part

:07:00. > :07:03.in the Tour de France. Nicky Samuels, down the hill, perhaps the

:07:04. > :07:07.most dangerous part on the course, sweeping sharp left. Jodie

:07:08. > :07:11.most dangerous part on the course, from England leading the way, with

:07:12. > :07:16.Lucy Hall behind. Lucy Hall, technically, very, very strong, as

:07:17. > :07:20.is Kirsty Sweetman from Canada. The main thing is that you want to get

:07:21. > :07:27.through it and get to the run in one piece, in the front pack. A bit of

:07:28. > :07:29.pace here, somebody is having a go. Nicky Samuels is responding, and

:07:30. > :07:36.look how Nicky Samuels is responding, and

:07:37. > :07:39.spread. Five seconds perhaps between the first rider, which is Lucy

:07:40. > :07:47.Hall, and the 10th rider, which the first rider, which is Lucy

:07:48. > :07:49.think is Nicky Samuels. So, not the best runner, so perhaps she believes

:07:50. > :07:52.that her best chance best runner, so perhaps she believes

:07:53. > :07:54.amongst the medals today is to best runner, so perhaps she believes

:07:55. > :07:57.some damage out on two wheels. best runner, so perhaps she believes

:07:58. > :08:01.a good effort from Lucy Hall, fastest swimmer in the field.

:08:02. > :08:07.a good effort from Lucy Hall, showing her prowess on two wheels.

:08:08. > :08:13.Yes, so much power, so much strength on the bike. If she is to have any

:08:14. > :08:18.chance of getting in the medals, she has got to ride out hard. So often

:08:19. > :08:22.we see somebody making a break, and then backing off. If

:08:23. > :08:23.we see somebody making a break, and go, you have got to go, you have got

:08:24. > :08:25.to give it at go, you have got to go, you have got

:08:26. > :08:34.your shoulder. There is a go, you have got to go, you have got

:08:35. > :08:38.now. So, Lucy Hall doing some damage. She made the break, she did

:08:39. > :08:48.not back off. Good speed from Lucy Hall, and no one in the same camera

:08:49. > :08:51.shot. The other group of nine, slightly taken aback by that

:08:52. > :08:58.audacious move from Lucy Hall, number 15, from England. Leading the

:08:59. > :09:03.Commonwealth Games triathlon, as Nicky Samuels takes a drink, and

:09:04. > :09:07.Emma Jackson just cruises alongside her. A little bit surprised that

:09:08. > :09:13.perhaps Jodie Stimpson or Vicky Holland, also from England, did not

:09:14. > :09:21.decide to go with her. I do not know whether it was planned or not. Maybe

:09:22. > :09:26.she just decided, I am going. But the others know that they are better

:09:27. > :09:34.runners than Lucy, so they might be a bit relaxed about things, but

:09:35. > :09:39.nonetheless that is a huge gap now. She has really got her head down,

:09:40. > :09:44.attempting to give herself the best possible chance of a Commonwealth

:09:45. > :09:52.Games medal. Yes, really good to see that gap, more than 100m. And I do

:09:53. > :09:54.not see a lot of urgency in this pack, I do not think they are

:09:55. > :10:10.planning on going after her. Well, Lucy Hall is an excellent

:10:11. > :10:15.swimmer, we know all about that. She has not managed to back it up with

:10:16. > :10:20.any good riding or running in this season so far, in the World

:10:21. > :10:23.Triathlon Series. She has obviously been playing her cards close to her

:10:24. > :10:29.chest and has been focusing on this. She was the domestique in the London

:10:30. > :10:32.triathlon, sent in as the strong swimmer to lead Helen Jenkins on a

:10:33. > :10:37.potential gold medal charge. swimmer to lead Helen Jenkins on a

:10:38. > :10:43.not happen for Jenkins. She has now had enough of playing second fiddle,

:10:44. > :10:53.and Lucy Hall has taken it on here. The remaining nine still not

:10:54. > :11:02.responding in any positive way. They appear to be pretty relaxed about

:11:03. > :11:11.the break that passage has put in. This is great for the England fans

:11:12. > :11:16.here today. They like to see people making a bit of an effort, and Lucy

:11:17. > :11:20.Hall has certainly done that. These fans from England have come all the

:11:21. > :11:24.way up to Scotland to see her. When they see her coming into

:11:25. > :11:25.transition... We will be able to tell you what the time difference is

:11:26. > :11:31.transition... We will be able to very shortly. Here we come, with

:11:32. > :11:37.just one lap to go. Lucy Hall it's the blue carpet of transition, at

:11:38. > :11:42.the end of lap four. We can make a check on the time difference... As

:11:43. > :11:46.she comes out of transition, a check on the time difference... As

:11:47. > :11:55.to one of her coaches on the way through. 15 seconds and counting. As

:11:56. > :11:58.Lucy Hall changes the shape potentially of this Commonwealth

:11:59. > :12:06.Games triathlon. Born in Leicester, living in Leeds, leading here in

:12:07. > :12:14.Glasgow. And it is 31, 32 seconds! 33 seconds is the lead of Lucy Hall

:12:15. > :12:20.at the end of lap four. Wheel that be decisive at the end of the race?

:12:21. > :12:23.That is incredible, because that 30 seconds has been gained in the last

:12:24. > :12:29.couple of kilometres. Just how much can she do now? As she came past the

:12:30. > :12:33.commentary box, she was looking very relaxed on the bike and pushing with

:12:34. > :12:40.a lot of power. Just such a strong athlete. So now, word will have

:12:41. > :12:46.reached the chasing nine that there is work to be done. They will know

:12:47. > :12:51.that she has a lead of 33 seconds, she has taken the Bell, she is

:12:52. > :13:04.riding her final lap, and gritting her teeth. I am loving this, loving

:13:05. > :13:09.watch her give it a real go. Kirsty Sweetman perhaps sensing some

:13:10. > :13:14.danger, from Canada. But realistically she will need probably

:13:15. > :13:18.about three minutes over 10k if she is going to stay away from a lot of

:13:19. > :13:23.these strong runners. And of course, Andrea Hewitt as well. This

:13:24. > :13:28.is such a strong pack of runners there is no one in this front pack

:13:29. > :13:33.who has any weakness. Aileen Reid from Ireland as well, a Grade 1.

:13:34. > :13:35.who has any weakness. Aileen Reid Emma Moffatt takes it up, followed

:13:36. > :13:55.by Duffy of Bermuda. They have got a gap of more than 30

:13:56. > :14:07.seconds to try and recover. Serious work going on within the chase

:14:08. > :14:13.group. Looking down the road, a lot of empty space. She might be even 40

:14:14. > :14:17.seconds ahead now. Flora Duffy perhaps sensing that she needs to

:14:18. > :14:26.work hard. She is perhaps one of the weaker runners in this pack.

:14:27. > :14:32.So, just under an hour and a quarter of the Commonwealth Games women's

:14:33. > :14:40.triathlon behind us, and the gap between the chasers and the solitary

:14:41. > :14:47.leader is significant. Lucy Hall of England has just a motorcycle

:14:48. > :14:54.cameraman for company. The cadence is good, the power is good. She

:14:55. > :15:02.continues to break away from the front pack. Very relaxed, I am

:15:03. > :15:13.surprised, knowing how she rides, that she goes off the front. The

:15:14. > :15:14.addition to the front handle bars might have helped her out,

:15:15. > :15:34.aerodynamically. Coming through the shadows of the

:15:35. > :15:43.trees. Emma Moffatt of Australia in the chasing group of nine. On the

:15:44. > :15:48.left, Andrea Hewitt of New Zealand. Jodie Stimpson, Vicky

:15:49. > :15:51.left, Andrea Hewitt of New Zealand. this group as well. Very soon, the

:15:52. > :15:58.second pack, there will be an opportunity to see where Lucy Hall

:15:59. > :16:05.is. Flora Duffy pushing the pace. As I said, she is sensing Lucy Hall is

:16:06. > :16:12.getting too much time ahead. She really does not want that. If Lucy

:16:13. > :16:16.Hall was with a group of riders that arrived in transition to gather, it

:16:17. > :16:21.would not be long before she was going backwards, being lost by the

:16:22. > :16:28.group. She has given herself a fighting chance by opening up this

:16:29. > :16:33.33 second lead. I don't know if it is big enough to give her a shot at

:16:34. > :16:39.a medal? Lucy will probably need a couple of minutes. I don't want to

:16:40. > :16:46.talk to badly about Lucy Hall's running, because it is not that bad

:16:47. > :16:50.and has worked on it really hard. Has suffered a few injuries. I did

:16:51. > :16:55.see her at the London triathlon last year. Had a great run. I think we

:16:56. > :16:59.will be seeing a lot more of Lucy year. Had a great run. I think we

:17:00. > :17:10.Hall and I think we will see her running well in the next months and

:17:11. > :17:18.years to come. Lucy Hall, out on her own. Heading down towards the

:17:19. > :17:22.playpark. She will make that turned on this course for the very last

:17:23. > :17:28.time, before she heads back. One more hill climb and then it is back

:17:29. > :17:41.to transition and out onto the ten kilometre run. They will be running

:17:42. > :17:45.around a tough course like this. Overall in this race, some of the

:17:46. > :17:53.athletes were talking it is not going to be a fast race. They do

:17:54. > :17:58.usually go under two hours, but I don't Inc we will see that today.

:17:59. > :18:09.Flora Duffy of Bermuda is sensing a need to do some work. Samuels

:18:10. > :18:14.responding. In France, the camera is not giving you an accurate idea of

:18:15. > :18:24.the gap. The Camara distances always make them seem closer than they are.

:18:25. > :18:28.Have this group of nine managed to close the gap? I think they have

:18:29. > :18:41.made inroads. I think we can put that down to Flora Duffy from

:18:42. > :18:47.Bermuda. Aileen Reid out of the saddle. Trying to close the gap. She

:18:48. > :18:52.has two saddle. Trying to close the gap. She

:18:53. > :18:58.from the group and close the gap to Lucy Hall. Lucy Hall is getting

:18:59. > :19:02.tired. Aileen Reid of Northern Ireland about to close the gap for

:19:03. > :19:07.Lucy Hall. You have to say Lucy Hall's chance of a medal is gone.

:19:08. > :19:07.She did look committed to the breakaway, but

:19:08. > :19:15.perhaps the heat getting to her now. committed to the breakaway, but

:19:16. > :19:19.She must have written really hard and that will have done some damage

:19:20. > :19:26.to her legs going out in the run. Aileen Reid just getting in front.

:19:27. > :19:28.Perhaps if Lucy Reid had looked around earlier, her and Aileen Reid

:19:29. > :19:34.could have made a breakaway together. The group is complete

:19:35. > :19:39.again. We are back to a full complement of ten. Rave effort from

:19:40. > :19:43.Lucy Hall. I think that would have taken too much out of her to enable

:19:44. > :19:51.her to do any significant damage on the run. It might just play into the

:19:52. > :19:57.hands of those who have kept it sensible. Emma Jackson, Jodie

:19:58. > :20:00.Stimpson, Vicky Holland is not the best runner but maybe she is saving

:20:01. > :20:06.her best performance for the biggest race of her year, here in the

:20:07. > :20:12.Commonwealth games. Realistically it is Hewitt 's, Stimpson and Jackson.

:20:13. > :20:24.I have two beg to differ with Vicky Holland's running. I might be eating

:20:25. > :20:29.my words, but she is a good runner. She comes from a swimming and

:20:30. > :20:37.running aground. By all accounts, a lot of people saying she is in form.

:20:38. > :20:41.She ran well in hamburg, not too far off the pace. I think we will find

:20:42. > :20:47.she is coming into form at the right time. She has played this bike very

:20:48. > :21:01.sensibly. We have seen Lucy Hall, Jodie Stimpson and Flora Duffy, but

:21:02. > :21:05.not a lot from Emma Jackson. Time for a drink for Kirsten Sweetland of

:21:06. > :21:10.Canada. She has kept it sensible as well. Aileen Reid, the first to

:21:11. > :21:19.reach Lucy Hall on. In second position. Wearing number one on her

:21:20. > :21:35.shoulder, England's Jodie Stimpson. Number nine New Zealand, Andrea

:21:36. > :21:39.Hewitt. Going past Flora Duffy and towards Samuels. They will be

:21:40. > :21:48.thinking about the conclusion of lap towards Samuels. They will be

:21:49. > :21:55.five. The arrival in transition and the departure for the ten K run.

:21:56. > :22:01.Thoughts turned to the transition. The 10,000 metre run is fast

:22:02. > :22:06.approaching. Any chance of a break has well and truly gone. Emma

:22:07. > :22:12.Jackson in the green and gold colours of Australia. This is the

:22:13. > :22:16.fourth discipline in transition. Aileen Reid already getting her

:22:17. > :22:21.shoes off. It is important to be placed well. I don't know if that is

:22:22. > :22:37.a label or an energy gel sticking out the back of Flora Duffy.

:22:38. > :22:43.The athletes now in a very short time it will be making their way

:22:44. > :22:50.back to transition. Jodie Stimpson at the front. Ranked number one

:22:51. > :22:53.because she is the highest ranked athlete in the world. Just getting

:22:54. > :23:04.herself nicely positioned the transition. A lot of athletes lose

:23:05. > :23:11.time in transition and ten, 15 seconds can make a big difference to

:23:12. > :23:24.your race. Lucy Hall, only significant breakaway rider. " three

:23:25. > :23:25.second gap. " at the start of the last lap. I think

:23:26. > :23:32.second gap. " at the start of the do some damage today. She has kept

:23:33. > :23:38.out of trouble on the bike, as usual. This could play into her

:23:39. > :23:44.hands. Perhaps an Australian might claim the first gold medal of the

:23:45. > :23:48.2014 Commonwealth games in Glasgow. If you have just come from a

:23:49. > :23:52.different planet and somebody said to you these were the Commonwealth

:23:53. > :23:59.Games in Glasgow, you would not believe them. But it is a

:24:00. > :24:10.magnificent setting in the Strathclyde country Park. The first

:24:11. > :24:13.gold medal of The Games will be decided after they finish this final

:24:14. > :24:14.lap, park their bikes and embarked on a 10,000 metre run in the

:24:15. > :24:18.women's triathlon. The men's race to come at 3pm today. Plenty more going

:24:19. > :24:20.on across the BBC platform with exclusive coverage of the

:24:21. > :24:25.Commonwealth games. The back five about to be complete. They will

:24:26. > :24:31.start to move their feet out of the shoes. Straps are starting to be

:24:32. > :24:36.undone and feet rested on to the empty shoes, which remain attached

:24:37. > :24:43.to the bike. They need to get everything right, park the bikes

:24:44. > :24:48.correctly in the appropriate stands, get their racing helmets into the

:24:49. > :24:59.box and then get her running shoes on. It has to be done cleanly. It is

:25:00. > :25:06.practised time and time again, but it has to be done precisely now. 12

:25:07. > :25:13.of the riders, Kirsten Sweetland, taking a chance with the dismount

:25:14. > :25:21.line. Stimpson in behind, Hewitt and Holland with the same time. All

:25:22. > :25:25.within a second of each other. Jodie Stimpson gets her shoes on and makes

:25:26. > :25:31.her way out of transition, closely followed by the rest of the group.

:25:32. > :25:38.Vicky Holland, the first to move. Jodie Stimpson of England alongside

:25:39. > :25:43.Hewitt. Kirsten Sweetland of Canada. Jackson and Moffat of Australia. I

:25:44. > :25:48.would not we surprised that Lucy Hall is paying the price for the

:25:49. > :25:52.early breakaway on the bike. Can she maintain her pace with the leaders?

:25:53. > :25:58.Jodie Stimpson of England strikes for the front. If the bike was a bit

:25:59. > :26:04.of a procession towards the end, this run will not be. This will be

:26:05. > :26:09.tough, it will be absolutely fall on all the way. They will have two

:26:10. > :26:15.hertz. If they want to win medals, you have some of the best runners

:26:16. > :26:21.here, this will be tough. These girls are used to running over flat

:26:22. > :26:26.courses. What is different about Strathclyde is the bike is tough and

:26:27. > :26:34.running is tough. Three of them appear to be struggling. One is Lucy

:26:35. > :26:41.Hall and a New Zealand athlete is struggling as well. Kirsten

:26:42. > :26:46.Sweetland is going stride but stride as they run Waterside in front of

:26:47. > :26:55.this enormous crowd in the Strathclyde Country Park. Jodie

:26:56. > :27:04.Stimpson leads for England. Kirsten Sweetland is second in the Canada.

:27:05. > :27:10.Hewitt struggling to go with them at this stage. It is Flora Duffy.

:27:11. > :27:17.Hewitt is in the front pack. She is in fifth. Jodie Stimpson burst.

:27:18. > :27:28.Andrea Hewitt is the lightest athlete in the field, weighs just 50

:27:29. > :27:35.kilos. Group of six lead by the best triathlete, Jodie Stimpson. Lucy

:27:36. > :27:38.Hall, had ago during the bike and paid the price. Now hast to stare

:27:39. > :27:47.down the line of runners in front of her. It is quite a long way to the

:27:48. > :27:51.leader, Jodie Stimpson, of England. Vicky Holland, just about staying

:27:52. > :27:59.with them at this stage. The first lap of three. Three laps of 3.3

:28:00. > :28:06.kilometres each. Look at the crowds, enjoying every minute of this. No

:28:07. > :28:11.heroics, not like the Brownlee Brothers, who we are used to seeing

:28:12. > :28:16.flying out of transition. Ashleigh Gentle from Australia and Kate

:28:17. > :28:23.Mcilroy making their way into transition. All they can hope for

:28:24. > :28:32.now is to run a decent race. Ashleigh Gentle came into this with

:28:33. > :28:43.high hopes. Shame to see her well down. Aileen Reid, four of them now.

:28:44. > :29:00.Hewitt has dropped off. Michael Roy and Ashleigh Gentle leave transition

:29:01. > :29:03.for the final time. -- Kate Mcilroy. Hewitt and Holland are the ones

:29:04. > :29:07.having to work hard to close the gap at this stage. Jodie Stimpson has to

:29:08. > :29:07.be sensible, at this stage. Jodie Stimpson has to

:29:08. > :29:12.run away. She has at this stage. Jodie Stimpson has to

:29:13. > :29:20.desire to win. You can see it at this stage. Jodie Stimpson has to

:29:21. > :29:26.face. Running strongly, but she has got to be sensible. Lucy Hall just

:29:27. > :29:27.off the pace, I think her day is over but a great effort from her.

:29:28. > :29:32.off the pace, I think her day is am sure we will

:29:33. > :29:38.off the pace, I think her day is the Commonwealth Games in the

:29:39. > :29:46.future. Into the woods on a bit of a climb. Stimpson gets her head down,

:29:47. > :29:49.along with Kirsten Sweetland, Jackson, Aileen Reid of

:29:50. > :29:57.along with Kirsten Sweetland, Ireland. Vicky Holland and Andrea

:29:58. > :30:01.Hewitt. Vicky Holland staying with them, then a bit of a gap to Andrea

:30:02. > :30:08.Hewitt, struggling with a climb. Legs with Bill difference off the

:30:09. > :30:13.bike, and perhaps a bike ride which is flatter. They were definitely

:30:14. > :30:20.riding around 85, 90 and their legs will be sore. Then on top of that

:30:21. > :30:40.you throw in the hills and it makes it tougher.

:30:41. > :30:44.come down the slope. Vicky Holland is out there for England, along with

:30:45. > :30:50.Aileen Reid of Northern Ireland. Lap one of three.

:30:51. > :31:22.No problems for Emma Jackson, we know she is on good form, and she is

:31:23. > :31:25.bouncing along, through the forest, alongside the artificial loch.

:31:26. > :31:34.Shoulder to shoulder with Jodie Stimpson. I have been very impressed

:31:35. > :31:43.with her running, in the team relays as well. She has got some speed in

:31:44. > :31:45.her legs. A mouthful of water for Stimpson. Various feeding stations

:31:46. > :31:51.along the way. Vicky Holland is travelling nicely. The New Zealander

:31:52. > :32:01.has dropped off a little bit, but she is very experienced. Do not

:32:02. > :32:06.count her out just yet. She won bronze in the World Championships in

:32:07. > :32:13.2012, silver in 2011 and bronze in 2009, so a lot of pedigree. But 30

:32:14. > :32:17.metres, that is quite a bit off. But perhaps her experience tells her

:32:18. > :32:26.that she needs to do this kind of negative split. It is something Gwen

:32:27. > :32:35.Jorgensen does, picking up later and running faster on the second half.

:32:36. > :32:43.Nicky Samuels from New Zealand, could not keep with the group during

:32:44. > :32:46.the first lap of the run. Yes, it is a shame, but she does not quite have

:32:47. > :32:51.the running pedigree which the other girls have got. Her swimming and

:32:52. > :33:00.riding is so good that she has not managed to get her running up to

:33:01. > :33:06.that next level. Jodie Stimpson looking nice and relaxed, not

:33:07. > :33:13.breathing too hard at the moment. So, it could be that during lap two,

:33:14. > :33:22.somebody attempts to kick away from the group. A bit of a stumble

:33:23. > :33:26.therefore Eleanor Jackson. -- their for Emma Jackson. Amy Regan at the

:33:27. > :33:35.back of the five, desperately trying for Emma Jackson. Amy Regan at the

:33:36. > :33:41.to grab a bottle of water. -- Aileen Reid. But thankfully she got hold of

:33:42. > :33:47.a bottle, and has managed to get a drink. You can see the head

:33:48. > :33:55.movement, she does not always look so relaxed. We have seen her run

:33:56. > :34:03.very strongly in the past, so she is still in contention at this point of

:34:04. > :34:11.the race. And Andrea Hewitt, hanging on. Is she getting a second wind?

:34:12. > :34:18.She just sat back during the latter stages of lap one. But she may still

:34:19. > :34:26.be able to content. Some athletes would get nervous if they drop off,

:34:27. > :34:32.but I have seen Andrea do it before. That looked like Kirsten Sweetland.

:34:33. > :34:37.She will not be making any friends if she trips someone up! Emma

:34:38. > :34:43.Jackson, no damage done, stays on her feet. And Hewitt is joining the

:34:44. > :34:50.fun at the front. So, a little breather at the start of lap one for

:34:51. > :34:57.Andrea Hewitt of New Zealand, and the front group has grown by one,

:34:58. > :35:00.from five to six. Emma Jackson taking it up, alongside Kirsten

:35:01. > :35:11.Sweetland. Jodie Stimpson in third, taking it up, alongside Kirsten

:35:12. > :35:16.followed by Vicky Holland. They are being followed by Aileen Reid of

:35:17. > :35:20.Northern Ireland. Plenty of eyes on the swimming today, and the Scottish

:35:21. > :35:23.hero Michael Jamieson will be going shortly in the event at which he

:35:24. > :35:26.took a silver in the London Olympics, the 200m breaststroke.

:35:27. > :35:45.That is on BBC Three right now. ANNIE EMMERSON: But right now, we

:35:46. > :35:48.are back with the triathletes, heading towards the second lap of

:35:49. > :35:57.three. Emma Jackson pushing the pace. Andrea Hewitt dropped off, but

:35:58. > :36:01.as I predict it, she is back on. Kirsten Sweetland, from Canada, also

:36:02. > :36:07.there. And Jodie Stimpson, who has got to keep her wits about her, but

:36:08. > :36:11.her emotions in check, not get too carried away, as they come across

:36:12. > :36:14.the blue carpet. This is where they will get the support from their

:36:15. > :36:20.fans. MATT CHILTON: Emma Jackson, at the

:36:21. > :36:26.front, looks like she might be the one to beat today, as the spectators

:36:27. > :36:33.get to their feet. Applause ringing out for the group of six, who are

:36:34. > :36:39.arriving with two laps to go. Emma Jackson, cruising through. Jodie

:36:40. > :36:44.Stimpson alongside. Past the bikes which they hung up a little while

:36:45. > :36:54.ago. Vicky Holland, keeping out of trouble, in fourth. No trouble at

:36:55. > :37:04.all. Hewitt has closed the gap, having been dropped. The leading

:37:05. > :37:08.six, on their way to start lap to. They are looking very composed, but

:37:09. > :37:16.inside, their legs will be burning, the heartbreaks will be high, the

:37:17. > :37:44.lungs will be pumping. -- the heart rates.

:37:45. > :37:50.Emma Jackson looks full of running. I wonder if she feels it is time to

:37:51. > :38:07.move it up a gear? As they enter the climb on lap two.

:38:08. > :38:13.Lucy Hall, she move on the bike, but it came to

:38:14. > :38:17.nothing. She has got many years ahead of her. She has just got to

:38:18. > :38:26.improve on the running little bit. Going back to the front, it is

:38:27. > :38:45.looking very exciting. This was the transition area, watching Jodie

:38:46. > :38:52.Stimpson. That was a little while ago, at transition. Now, rejoin the

:38:53. > :38:59.leading six in the middle of the 10,000m run. This is lap two of

:39:00. > :39:02.three. Aileen Reid of Northern Ireland staying with them at the

:39:03. > :39:08.moment. Vicky Holland is staying with the group. Emma Jackson, always

:39:09. > :39:17.at the back on the bike, front running now over the 10k. With Jodie

:39:18. > :39:22.Stimpson on her shoulder. Kirsten Sweetland of Canada, with good

:39:23. > :39:26.recent form, is a threat. Yes, Emma Jackson is the biggest threat,

:39:27. > :39:29.though. We saw her in that sprint finish in Hamburg just a couple of

:39:30. > :39:34.weeks ago, and Emma Jackson got the finish in Hamburg just a couple of

:39:35. > :39:37.better of Sweetland. It finish in Hamburg just a couple of

:39:38. > :39:43.your physical strength, but it is your mental strength as well. For

:39:44. > :39:52.the English girls, the pressure is huge. You have to stay mentally

:39:53. > :39:58.strong in this part of the race. Lots of support for all of the

:39:59. > :40:02.athletes. Sadly, no Scottish competitors in the women's triathlon

:40:03. > :40:06.today, but they will be presented in the men's, coming up at three

:40:07. > :40:13.o'clock. Brownlee brothers, the hot favourite for gold and silver. Six

:40:14. > :40:16.athletes at the front, I could not call the medals now, Matt, what

:40:17. > :40:23.athletes at the front, I could not about you? I had a feeling about

:40:24. > :40:31.Emma Jackson during the ride. She maintained her reserves of

:40:32. > :40:32.stammered. We know her progress over five kilometres, but she looks full

:40:33. > :40:35.of running here. She five kilometres, but she looks full

:40:36. > :40:41.pile the pressure on her five kilometres, but she looks full

:40:42. > :40:52.on the way up the hill. This is where the years of training payoff.

:40:53. > :41:00.You have got to be able to recover afterwards, because they will still

:41:01. > :41:04.have another lap to go. We need to look at Andrea Hewitt as well, a

:41:05. > :41:06.medallist in the Commonwealth Games, bronze medallist, in

:41:07. > :41:12.Melbourne in 26. And she was right Games, bronze medallist, in

:41:13. > :41:18.up near the leaders in the Olympic -- in 2006. She is a big event race.

:41:19. > :41:38.-- race. She is light on her feet and still

:41:39. > :41:41.in contention here, unlike her temperature at -- unlike her

:41:42. > :41:46.compatriot, Nicky Samuels, with Emma Moffatt, battling away up the hill.

:41:47. > :41:53.Emma Moffatt has had a bit of a difficult time, changing coaches a

:41:54. > :41:59.couple of times in recent times. I am just wondering perhaps if it is

:42:00. > :42:03.time for her to look at the long distances. But she loves the Olympic

:42:04. > :42:08.distance. Over the years we have seen her perform so well. Moffitt

:42:09. > :42:16.and Samuels, keeping it going. No chance of medals now. This picture

:42:17. > :42:26.shows how tough it is mother hill, it is about 150 metres. And it looks

:42:27. > :42:37.like Aileen Reid might be unable to stay with the pace at the front. Or

:42:38. > :42:41.Aileen Reid has a bit of daylight to Aileen Reid has a bit of daylight to

:42:42. > :42:55.stare at, as she looks at the front five. Andrea Hewitt of New Zealand

:42:56. > :43:02.looks relaxed still. Vicky Holland heads for the shade on the

:43:03. > :43:06.right-hand side of the tarmac. Still Jodie Stimpson controlling the pace

:43:07. > :43:12.of this race. We have seen Kirsten Sweetland, as we have mentioned

:43:13. > :43:15.several times, racing very well over five kilometres. It will be

:43:16. > :43:21.interesting to see what she can do over 10k. A drink and a shower

:43:22. > :43:22.interesting to see what she can do some of the racers, although Emma

:43:23. > :43:32.Jackson opted out of refreshment at that feeding station. It is about

:43:33. > :43:45.23-24?, that is kind of call for her compared to back home.

:43:46. > :44:05.Perhaps we are just starting to notice the pain on their faces now.

:44:06. > :44:14.Aileen Reid perhaps the athlete among this group who seems to be the

:44:15. > :44:16.most tired. Reid, the oldest in this group, the same age in fact

:44:17. > :44:23.most tired. Reid, the oldest in this Andrea Hewitt, 32 years of age. As

:44:24. > :44:30.Sweetland takes her turn to push the pace along. Reid is not beating yet,

:44:31. > :44:38.she is fighting her way back. And she has not lost contact. It is so

:44:39. > :44:42.important to be in a pack, you need that pack. It is just like cycling,

:44:43. > :44:50.you can get pulled along a little bit. It just gives you some

:44:51. > :45:03.protection from the wind. As they are going downhill now. The athletes

:45:04. > :45:07.are feeding off the encouragement that they are getting from the

:45:08. > :45:17.crowd. A drink and a shower for all but Jackson and Reid. Jackson is

:45:18. > :45:39.clearly fresh, clearly fancying her chances here this afternoon.

:45:40. > :45:55.lot of sports, the brain does not function like it should. About to

:45:56. > :46:02.finish the second lap. Kirsten Sweetland. We see Roberts running,

:46:03. > :46:08.which is encouraging because we saw her on her back after a nasty crash

:46:09. > :46:17.after she was forced off the road by one of the Canadians. Hewitt appears

:46:18. > :46:23.to be struggling again. Kirsten Sweetland takes it on at the front.

:46:24. > :46:28.Jodie Stimpson going with her. Jackson staying with the front. At

:46:29. > :46:32.the back, Samuels and Moffat are officially the chase group at this

:46:33. > :46:52.stage. Just getting times in from the bike course. This course is not

:46:53. > :46:56.a bad time. Dipping under an hour, but this course is a lot more

:46:57. > :47:03.challenging than some of the others they race over. Kirsten Sweetland

:47:04. > :47:11.stretching out. Sensing perhaps this is the time to go. Single file at

:47:12. > :47:16.this stage. They were a group for a while. Kirsten Sweetland, who has

:47:17. > :47:29.Stimpson the company starts to move the pace up another notch. Kirsten

:47:30. > :47:33.Sweetland of Canada. Stimpson of England, Jackson of Australia.

:47:34. > :47:39.Hewitt of New Zealand. Aileen Reid of Northern Ireland. Daylight again

:47:40. > :47:44.between Hewitt in fifth and Aileen Reid of Northern Ireland in sixth.

:47:45. > :47:51.Interesting position for Holland to be in. I thought her run had

:47:52. > :47:57.improved. She would normally have dropped off by now. Still in

:47:58. > :48:07.contention. The end of the second lap. Group of five in contention for

:48:08. > :48:12.the Commonwealth medals. The first medals to be won at the 20th

:48:13. > :48:18.Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. As they stride across the blue carpet

:48:19. > :48:23.into transition, Jodie Stimpson of England is with Kirsten Sweetland of

:48:24. > :48:28.Canada. In third, Vicky Holland of England and then Emma Jackson of

:48:29. > :48:32.Australia. Andrea Hewitt, New Zealand and Aileen Reid of Northern

:48:33. > :48:39.Ireland. A little removed from the leaders now. They have taken the

:48:40. > :48:48.bell. Just under 3.5 kilometres to run. Stimpson moves it up, takes it

:48:49. > :48:56.on. Takes first position. Starts to ask questions. Emma Jackson is

:48:57. > :49:02.sobering. It is the first time we have seen it. She has looked so

:49:03. > :49:06.strong. She raced very strong over five kilometres but we do see her

:49:07. > :49:13.suffer in the latter part of the race. Jodie Stimpson glances behind.

:49:14. > :49:21.She sees Kirsten Sweetland in red and also Vicky Holland in red, a

:49:22. > :49:29.little further back. Stimpson trying to suss out who is on her shoulder.

:49:30. > :49:37.Kirsten Sweetland takes a drink. Stimpson keeps her focus in front.

:49:38. > :49:43.Jodie Stimpson looking so strong. Head coach is in the best shape we

:49:44. > :49:48.have ever seen her the moment. Relaxed and her shoulders are down.

:49:49. > :49:56.Emma Moffatt has moved ahead of Samuels.

:49:57. > :50:03.Emma Moffatt has moved ahead of going on some way in front. Vicky

:50:04. > :50:11.Holland just moved into second position. England in first and

:50:12. > :50:17.second. Jodie Stimpson leading the way. She looks around and sees her

:50:18. > :50:23.team-mate Vicky Holland holding silver medal position at this stage.

:50:24. > :50:25.Stimpson in the gold medal position. This is the way they cross the line

:50:26. > :50:40.at the end of the second lap. I wonder what is going through their

:50:41. > :50:48.minds now? I wonder what is going through their

:50:49. > :50:53.at the front. Emma Jackson, slightly off the pace. Still close enough to

:50:54. > :51:00.get back on. off the pace. Still close enough to

:51:01. > :51:08.gritting her teeth and working hard. Trying to take it on and move the

:51:09. > :51:08.gritting her teeth and working hard. pace up another marker. Vicky

:51:09. > :51:15.Holland the first to respond. Kirsten Sweetland, able to match.

:51:16. > :51:20.Andrea Hewitt is struggling slightly with this fresh pays.

:51:21. > :51:32.Andrea Hewitt is struggling slightly is in fifth. --

:51:33. > :51:37.Andrea Hewitt is struggling slightly point in the race we're not just

:51:38. > :51:42.talking physical reparations, but mental also. It is very tough. Jodie

:51:43. > :51:47.Stimpson looking like she is struggling in her face, but the body

:51:48. > :51:53.is still moving well. Vicky Holland is still there. Kirsten Sweetland.

:51:54. > :51:55.is still moving well. Vicky Holland Hewitt is definitely trying to hang

:51:56. > :51:58.on with an outside Hewitt is definitely trying to hang

:51:59. > :52:10.medal. Fighting for every stripe now. They come down the small hill.

:52:11. > :52:17.-- stride. Holland settled in her training camp, up in Leeds with the

:52:18. > :52:22.Brownlee Brothers and I think that has been a positive move. Up until

:52:23. > :52:31.now she hasn't perhaps found the right technique, but I think she has

:52:32. > :52:34.now, as they head up this last hill. I think this is worth something

:52:35. > :52:41.important is about to happen. It looks like the medals will be split

:52:42. > :52:46.between Stimpson and Holland of England and Kirsten Sweetland of

:52:47. > :52:53.Canada. Holland cruises alongside Jodie Stimpson. The English are

:52:54. > :52:57.looking for first and second. There are no team orders here, they will

:52:58. > :53:07.both want the gold. They climb for the final time. Don't discount

:53:08. > :53:12.Hewitt yet. She is still there. But certainly now, I would suggest

:53:13. > :53:14.either distance and the gap that has grown, this is where the medals will

:53:15. > :53:24.come from. Hewitt and Jackson, New grown, this is where the medals will

:53:25. > :53:29.Zealand and Australia looked to be in contention. Just shy of a bit of

:53:30. > :53:36.pace when it came to the final stages. Stimpson took the risk arm

:53:37. > :53:44.the right-hander coming down the hill. Kept her footing. She is now

:53:45. > :53:53.back into her stride. Jodie Stimpson leads, Vicky Holland second, both

:53:54. > :53:58.for England. The moment is Kirsten Sweetland of Canada. The final

:53:59. > :54:05.stages of the Commonwealth games triathlon. You might think coming

:54:06. > :54:19.into downhill, they can take a breather, but they can't. Sometimes

:54:20. > :54:31.it can take as much effort to run down a hill fast than it is to run

:54:32. > :54:32.up. Kirsten Sweetland perhaps saving a bit of breath for the final few

:54:33. > :54:34.hundred metres. Glance sideways from Vicky Holland. She shows Jodie

:54:35. > :54:35.Stimpson she still has plenty in the tank. Stimpson responds. Kirsten

:54:36. > :54:41.Sweetland able to stay with the English runners at the front. It is

:54:42. > :54:47.coming down to a final climax here. The first medals of the Commonwealth

:54:48. > :54:54.games to be decided. Vicky Holland reaches out for water. Little shower

:54:55. > :55:02.and a drink. Welcome shade from the Drake -- trees in the Strathclyde

:55:03. > :55:10.Country Park. What a race. England looking so strong. And barring

:55:11. > :55:10.disaster they have two medals. England looking incredibly strong.

:55:11. > :55:16.Jodie England looking incredibly strong.
